so you might be looking at the compared to the 20 i'm at this are you looking at the slides the way the slides no she's looking at pages she's looking at the narrative yeah okay so i'll have to look at that later then after i go through this it's the total at the bottom it's the total it's general purpose revenue federal revenue i see it okay there we go i got it okay so we had an increase of 2.8 million dollars on the unrestricted side which is what we primarily look at of that non-spendable was 44 000 and so that includes our revolving account of 10 000 in what's in the warehouse the committed amount was 7.2 million dollars and you committed that through resolution to maintenance supplemental concentration funds site carryover and then for economic uncertainties that's our three percent reserve 1.9 million dollars so our unassigned balance is 5.4 million dollars that's one-time funds that are available for other uses i want to mention that we are looking at the one-time funds and how to spend them and i know we're going to purchase three buses we talked about it cabinet that we need for field trips because our current buses don't have ac and so when it's hot our poor bus drivers and and people riding the bus suffer so that will be about seven hundred thousand dollars there this we will be or we offered a compensation package to our employees and so that off salary schedule will eat up some of that one-time money as well and then finally we did not have enough coven money to finish out the three-year commitment we made to the employees who are holding those positions related to the pandemic and learning loss and so we'll use the one time money to finish out their um their agreement when we look at the past in 1920 we had a increase of 230 000 just looking at the trends 2021 an increase of about five million dollars and then last year our revenue over expenditures on the unrestricted side was 2.7 million dollars again i mentioned that we had excess revenue over expenditures and that was used for a special ed contributions we also required by law to contribute three percent of our total expenditures to the maintenance account and so last year that totaled 1.875 million dollars it is higher than the previous year because we took in covid funds and so we spent more there that means we have to contribute more next year it'll probably go down so the unrestricted indian fund balance again this is just another graph to look at it and 21 22 that there's the 5.4 million dollars so we had a a huge ending fund balance in 2021 because we received all of the pandemic related funds and now we're spending them down [Music] this is a happy slide because our enrollment is ticking up for the first time in a long time going back to 13 14.

so this shows 4 235 students it has come down since i took this measure on august 30th i checked as of september 20th it's 4213 students so it has come down 22 however it still increased 111 students from 2021 census day so that's fantastic didn't we hit 5 000 at one point before my time maybe 6 300 was our our peak back 2000.

can we throw a little perspective in what that 111 students means for everybody so it's about 10 000 per student do you mean financially yep okay about 10 000 per student so a lot of money per i shouldn't say per student per ada so they actually have to attend school too our funded average daily attendance i just included what it was in 2122 we know that that will be much higher this it should be higher this upcoming year because of the adjustments that the state made allowing us to grab more attendance and then our other funds we still have fund 17 our special reserve with 2.46 million dollars 2 million of that is committed to maintenance projects we have fund 20 our other post-employment benefits fund with that should be a coma 450 thousand dollars and in the trust right now we have 1.4 million dollars some of the one-time money will also go into the trust but the stock market's kind of wonky and so i'm waiting trying to time it just perfectly for us and then fund 25 is our developer fee funds and we have 5.6 million dollars in there as of june 30th i was curious to know how developer fees are coming in because of the economy and housing slowing down and so i was a little bit concerned but then felt better in may we took in nine hundred thousand a little over nine hundred thousand in june about nine hundred fifty thousand july six hundred thousand august three hundred thousand in september so far two hundred thousand so that was really declining and was concerning but then i looked at last year in july also we took in six hundred thousand in august we also took in three hundred thousand so perhaps it's just this time of year where they don't pull permits however they're they do that their developments in september did that increase due to our our um increase of our developer fees has that come into effect yet the board of the board approved that last month i think it takes 60 days that's right yeah it could be i think the explanation is what you just said is probably the pulling permits supposedly after the wet season and then they're pulling more and then work on those throughout the summer i mean that is something that we'll be watching closely this this shows what was in the unrestricted side of the budget but that went unspent people like to call it what fell out of the budget and so that is a common question so i thought i would include that this year department budgets so these are um personnel budgets business maintenance that aren't carried over 285 000 was not spent out of their budgets we did not buy the electric buses uh that's a different story 823 000 was in the budget and we're going to try to go with a different company and buy them this year i thought we had a grant for those we do have a grant for those but this is just showing the unspent side so we'll get the money back eventually but i do have to apply for those etc so we we front it and then we get reimbursed on the back end yeah and it's seven seven buses remaining correct well we received one but i think we're sending it back so yeah at some point it's a different question about bringing that three percent savings back that we had always done to save us in case of a issue or a reserve site carryover 550 i mean 543 000 and the sites do get that money it's rolled over and they can accumulate it for big projects on their sites special education what fell out was 1.23 million dollars so what we need to do is look at open pos that aren't expended more closely at the end of the year and then um unencumber some of the funds that aren't needed from those open pos because when they closed at the end of the year all of the open pos weren't used and that's what it totaled so that was a big bomb or spend it well yes if we need to we spend enough in special ed that's for sure and then staffing we budget for employees when they are posted um but then they aren't filled and so the money's set aside for them but when we don't hire them then that money falls out and then just other miscellaneous uh funds were 276 thousand dollars and then there are two corrections i want to comment on so that it's official um on the last page of the narrative under fund summaries it shows that the net activity was under what page before you move on lisa that's an awful big number for special education why has that not been used to some extent again i have to work with the special ed department to see why they're opening pos and then they're not being used so we we open pos and say for x amount of dollars and if it doesn't cost that much then this would fall out so it's not that it's not spent or wouldn't be spent but let's say it costs uh three million dollars we think to put kids in uh like a non-public school or a service and it ends up only costing us 1.8 million 1.2 falls out doesn't mean we aren't spending it on the students it just means so what what miss coronado is working with mr jordan on is how do we keep it more specific back in the day well back in the day we used to be like hey is coronado can you add 50 more thousand and so we tried to go the other way to say here it is so we don't keep asking and then we don't spend it but it just gotcha thank you so on the last page of the narrative it says the net activity for the bond interest and redemption fund is seven hundred sixty one thousand five hundred forty five dollars and it should be six hundred forty five dollars and on the second page of the the fund one sex forms of the whole packet the second page i should have included the adopted budget amount for the revolving fund which was ten thousand dollars and the stores which was thirty two thousand eight hundred thirteen dollars and ninety five cents those were left blank wow you made mistakes i know i just can't believe that i found them but just after the packet was turned in are we ready for questions so i'm ready for question okay so actually are there any public comments on this topic okay moving on sorry actually my first question is not for you um my first question is regarding the money that was not spent on hvac and i'm just um trying to make it part of public knowledge as to why that wasn't spent on hvac is he's not here today but as we stated in the past the the hvac units were actually delayed so we've not received them so we can't spend it until we can get them right so that's exactly why that number is different yep and i knew that i just wanted to make sure that was mentioned why we didn't spend it okay then we have oh wait a minute let me go back i think i had another question on that page nope okay on page one of the unrestricted uh expense uh something object by object [Music] in the first section a other state revenues i noticed that it dropped significantly for the restricted so 6.9 million last year was what we actually used well an audited and 3.1 is what we budgeted is that because we're no longer getting new unrestricted funds for covid or correct yes okay that's correct and then on books and supplies unrestricted last year we spent 2.4 million and we've budgeted 1.1 million for this year so significantly less is that because we've replaced so many of our um books or so when the the pandemic related funds come out of the budget then the what we spent um with that comes out of the budget as well and so generally it comes out of the books and supplies budget okay so for instance the every department uh and school site received a lot fifty thousand dollars each seventy five thousand dollars for their needs and in the supply put it in the supply budget and that will come out okay and then also title one we have carryover and i just automatically put all the carryover in the supply budget and then what that is taken out when they spend it or they move it somewhere else okay um and then on capital outlay um it went from for restricted it went from 000 in expenditures and we're budgeting 2.0 is that construction that no no that's your 2 million dollars that you committed as a board to maintenance projects to maintenance projects okay great thank you sorry capital outlay is me i need that okay all right um on page five of the same document unrestricted expenses by object under lcff sources the second item educational protection account state aid current year so last year unrestricted we spent 13 million 13.6 million and this year we're budgeting 8.1 million so i'm just curious where what what the logic on that was i don't know so yeah that's fine so first of all it will be higher because this was the adopted budget not the 45 day update that's part of it but in the position control system the teachers are assigned a budget code for their salaries and for because the education protection account can only be spent on certificated salaries teacher salaries not even an admin and so it's pulling from the position control screen and that's how much is being assigned for their salaries but the end of the and it adjusts throughout the year and so rather than me changing a teacher's budget code and then having to notify hr notify payroll and do all the paperwork of that at the end of the year i can just take if there's five million left i can just uh transfer it to certificate salaries at the end of the year that makes sense so it's pulling it from based on probably not fully staffed right and so once we're fully fully staffed then those numbers are going to adjust and also probably less because we've had some retirements which are a little bit higher cost and things like that okay great um same page several items down to the educational revenue augmentation fund e-r-a-f um and i honestly don't know what that is and it went from 2.4 million down to 367 thousand so that's a pretty significant and i have to be honest too these are just taxes that come from the county and i just put in the numbers that they told me but not going to tax us as much this year nice okay then the very next item community redevelopment funds uh last year we didn't spend any and this year we're budgeting 2.5 million same thing that scoe provides the budgeted numbers and i just input those i have one more page two more questions sorry um on page one of the unrestricted expenses by function oh it's the same thing so it's just by function instead of by object so we can skip the last two questions thank you okay and as usual johnny on the spot with all the answers thank you so much sure any other questions i think she's got them all for us thank you thanks for looking at it so closely somebody reads it we read it well and i do think we need to give miss uh coronado kudos for this i mean she boiled it down 100 and something page document to 10 slides so i think we need to thank her that she makes it look easy so thank you lisa for making it lazy it is not easy thank you for not letting us look at a hundred slides yeah i appreciate that i i i appreciate how simplified this view is yeah thanks i try i know i don't want to bore everybody with this even though i find it interesting oh i did have one more question i'm sorry regarding the buses and the reason we haven't gotten the buses is that because there's a backlog a supply chain issue there's there's a couple reasons there's a i don't have a supply chain but we the company we went with is not producing them and then just real quickly the one we did get from that same company there's issues when the temperature outside gets a certain degrees the bus automatically goes 15 miles an hour so that that one might be going back because that would be that might cause a problem so yeah so when it's 100 degrees outside your football game about the third quarter well when's that ever gonna happen and the buses that she's referring to are for longer trips because we knew we wouldn't run electric buses to colfax or whatever so we need longer buses anyway or longer running buses than what what the electric would have i'm glad i asked thank you wow okay so these will be audited and then the auditors will give an opinion on them all right any further discussion on this issue okay motion to accept it i will talk to accept it sorry okay second okay hi okay trusty poe aye trustee anderson aye trustee kelly aye and chair votes eye thank you very much oh you got another one here yeah i turned to him and he yeah he uh he's very efficient okay so uh business item d resolution number four 20 22 23 gan limit resolution do i have a motion to bring this to the floor so moved move to a proof okay and do i have a second i'll second okay this is a formality the gan was passed in 1979 and its intention was to constrain government spending and school districts are considered governments and wanted to constrain our spending and so they have to do a calculation there's been adjustments to it and different bills passed and so our revenue that we get is pretty much exactly our limit and so it all works out and then if we go over our limit then we just take from the state's limit and that's just an automatic thing that happens so we would never as a district go over the limit so we but we still have to do this as a formality okay so if you could just vote on it that'd be great so what you're saying is it's time to revoke the gan limit okay do i have any comments from the public on this item okay any further discussion all right so let's since there was a motion to approve this time instead of just bringing to the floor uh mr mason aye ms pope trustee trustee kelly aye and cher bosai thank you very much we appreciate it okay now we have a student board representative report mr mason um i'd also like to be joined by our special guest he'll be coming right now special okay do we have a special guest in the audience to join mr mason thank you please experiencing technical oh my gosh this is exciting [Applause] so joe cougar is a gift from the class of um with their extras funds that they hear uh it's a gift from the class of 2022 that they had uh with their extra funds after the end of last year um he's made appearances on almost every single event he doesn't do rain though so woohoo [Laughter] in other news uh area decorations um for homecoming all classes have begun um either last week or this week and then for homecoming tickets went on sale this week 10 with asb 12 without an asb sticker guest passes are only for juniors and seniors and are due october 13th um sophomores went on a sac state ropes course field trip this past last week and then fbla went on two field trips one last week won this week volleyball played bear river on the 19th girls golf yesterday yesterday had a wood creek tournament i don't know the outcome of that i should we had freshman's adopt freshman adoptions last week and that was a very very popular event i don't think many freshmen that didn't want to get adopted didn't get adopted football plays wheatland at home this friday and link crew is hosting a freshman tailgate as a way to connect the seniors and upperclassmen to the freshmen um we are having a financial aid night october we're having two actually october 18th and the 20th and then homecoming week is coming up after our october break so we'll have homecoming week with all the spirit days the game and the dance obviously uh the game being the friday and the dance being that saturday um and then during the game we will have um well in between games we'll have class skits in between jv and varsity and then half time at the varsity game we will have senior royal court for homecoming our theme was movie genres the freshmen chose comedy sophomore chose romance junior's sci-fi and seniors did horror and then the dance starts at seven and gates close at eight and then the dance ends at 10 and over october break do we call it october break the week-long break we have coming up in two weeks no class will be doing anything on campus we'll all be taking a break enjoying the break that's it any questions oh great report when is homecoming week again uh the week after uh the break okay okay thank you very much very nice okay board and superintendent reports uh um [Music] yes come on oh okay getting back to the board reports that's a good picture especially view so uh trustee pope board report yes um so first of all i was not here last month so i apologize but i'd love to see the seniors here and make it a full house that just bringing back to normal is really nice also looking in the audience i see some faces that are not new to the district but that are new to the boardroom miss parveen i i see you from oakhill mrs kent i see you from riles miss olmstead i see you from spinelli miss oliver i see you from oak hill and then mr holmsley i see you from dudley so welcome i know you're not new to the district but you are new to this room um so congratulations and welcome everybody um mr lair and i had the privilege of touring ryle's middle school with mrs kent um along with visiting classrooms we did stop in the media community communication studio and the first thing i noticed when i walked in is this big green wall and of course it's a green screen and then she's explaining well if you look in the camera you'll see what the actual i'm going to call it a stage or the setup was and it was really kind of cool how they how they incorporated that um and i asked you miss kent and i don't remember the answer was this something mr bishop created i know it was yeah is that right mr brassie yeah it it was a very cool setup and i hadn't seen it before so if you have a chance to walk it through riles i would highly recommend looking at the studio we also stopped in miss perrault's um library she's the new librarian this year at riles and also if you have a chance to stop in at the library she's made a few changes and it's just amazing what a few changes can do to a room she now has a quiet area for staff and students she's rearranged the i don't know rearrange the books but relabeled the books for sure so it's easier to access um based on the genre you want to read she's got new chairs it's really comfortable and it's highly recommended by the students so that's one thing if you have a chance to go to the library i would definitely do that we had a chance to stop at dudley elementary as well and we visited with mr holmsley miss mason and mrs warner mr holmsley was so gracious to tour the campus with us and we stopped in several classrooms and we also stopped in amy lamont limoges is that how you pronounce her limoge she is the intervention teacher and she showed us this interesting spreadsheet she created for the students based on their assessment scores and it's color coded based on the multi-tier systems of support which i don't know if the students know what that is so i'm not going to explain it but mr lair maybe you want to after i'm done um so anyway she so what this spreadsheet does as i spoke to the specialists are the instructional specialists is that they can she said they said it was a great tool because they can pinpoint the needs of the students based on the spreadsheet and so they can capture per tier so that was a great tool and i thought i found that very fascinating so thank you mr homsley for taking us into the classroom it was a great trip um other than that uh let's see oh i was not here at the board meeting um as i said but i do want to thank mr chris barassi for his information last month on the district safety plan um it's intense they put a lot of time in and planning into it and as mr ballard mr howard ballard brought up um he's a community member within antelope he came up to the podium a few times and talking about safety and as i was pondering on his comments i'm wondering if it's time that the district gets a second safety officer maybe one split their time between mcclellan high school and center high school and then the other between riles and the four elementary soon to be five that was a thought i had it's better be proactive and safety so i don't know mr lehrer maybe if you could have a conversation with the administrators to see if that's something that they think would be necessary maybe come back to the board next month maybe not identi agendize it but bring it up in your board report maybe next month or the month after whenever you have time um but mr ballard ballad did i say your name ballad um thank you um and i thought that was something that we could probably have a communication on other than that um oh one other thing mr barassi did share with the board and i think it was district-wide is something oakhill elementary did in regards to their safety plan and i want to congratulate parveen and melissa in regards to collecting the data and how they they presented it and they sent it to mr barassi and i thank mr barassi for sharing that with the board because i found that very interesting congratulations on your grows and glows is glows and grows so very nice other than that have a great october break i actually spent an evening over at oak hill for their harvest festival and it was wonderful they did a great job and the kids had a wonderful time um very well run i can't say enough good things about it was that a pta sponsored event they did fantastic they always do yes they do and i guess they're having trunk or treat coming up here pretty quickly what day is that they want you to talk in the mic oh trunker treated oak hill what day [Laughter] i don't know if you heard me or not i said that they did a wonderful job at oak hill for the harvest festival it was beautiful it was a beautiful evening the kids had a wonderful time the kids running it did a great job it was just an all out great family event so thank you for that and superintendent learn i had just spoke not too long ago about the school safety officer and talked about what the functions were and stuff so that's good timing that you bring that up i personally like the idea of the school safety officer i like somebody who can get in there and talk to the kids and know them personally and what's going on in the community i think it builds a relationship with them that we normally don't have that that would be something i'd be very much interested in checking into oh we do have one but i was not like what we had before when nate was here or the one before him who actually was out there walking amongst the kids and talking to him and working through the system at the high school that's what i think makes a difference and other than that we have the elections that are coming up and i don't know if um vanessa are you guys going to endorse candidates this year should we be writing letters no right okay thank you and other than that i don't have anything else i'll pass it on you know i don't really have a whole lot to say i think i spoke a lot with the equity thing looking forward to the next meeting on october 12th and uh hope you all enjoy your october break and that's it okay um first of all i wanna good luck to the to the candidates sorry good luck to the candidates who will be running in november so i want to second what trustee pope was saying i i'm loving seeing this room packed like this this is great um so thank you all for showing up and as i said uh last month the fact that you guys are taking you know are attending this early when my kids were doing this it was the tail end of oh we need to go to this board meeting because it's the last one i can attend before it's due so it's uh it's great to see you guys on top of things and i really am enjoying this political hours if any of you need political hours we'll put you to work i also um i was able to attend a a dinner honoring teachers of the year throughout sacramento county with trustee anderson and superintendent lair and a few others congratulations to katie edwards our teacher of the year and it was a very inspiring event um hearing all these teachers speaking and their passion for what they do and one thing that i noticed was almost all of them mentioned teachers that had made an impact on their lives also and it really kind of drives home how much of an impact teachers can have on students i i can think of several teachers that i had that made a significant impact on my life and i think most of us feel the same way so i just want to take a moment to acknowledge the impact that teachers and other staff members are having on students lives and you know i really appreciate all the work you guys are putting in along those same lines i saw in the consent agenda that we have a teacher leaving the district jennifer law who teaches at uh riles um and she is an example of a teacher that had a substantial impact on multiple kids mind and i'm sad that we're losing her but i'm hopeful this this is a good opportunity for her so i want to put that out there other than that not a whole lot you know in my day job i work for another school district and we're still very much ramping up the start of the school year so this is a really busy time of year for me but um you know really helps me appreciate all this stuff that everyone's doing behind the scenes so thank you everybody could i make another comment please uh mrs kent if you did not see there is a lot of shock faces one more one more quick question uh will we be running the uh snack bar at homecoming this year i haven't heard yet well i'm volunteering love to sell them m ms and gatorades at home i think if any of you guys wanted any night you guys can come out and run it yeah he's saying we'd be welcome any night we want to work so i think maybe i'm gonna start okay so uh superintendent yes uh just wanted to acknowledge and uh reiterate how excited we are about the equity equity work um and then also just to thank mr uh barassi for his work uh with our pbis you one of the torches that he was passed from mr jackson was being more unified within the district with this so we've added all schools on that see that fold into our mtss blueprint uh is is remarkable and then also you'll be seeing he's also working on some attendance engagement piece that also falls into our tiered system which will be coming which will also help our students be incentivized to be at school during that time which is which is great because we know the more students are in school the more they actually learn sometimes we get painted with the brush in school that we only want you there because we want the money but no we actually want you there because we want you to learn the other thing is just a a compliment or an acknowledgement to our the partnerships and relationships with our associations salary benefits times like that sometimes can be very difficult and i appreciate the work that we all have together in this district it's a very give and take i don't think anyone gets anything or gives anything it's kind of a nice compromise so both teams meeting with naisha who i knew uh could not be here tonight for csa it's the same reciprocal relationship and we work hard at it so i appreciate that uh also as ms pope pointed out i had the opportunity to tour many sites this time since last meeting it's great to see the work that everyone is doing seeing students learn and the happy faces on each of them two more things one is uh this week participated in a school climate workshop that was also happened to be put on by west ed that ryan miranda put on out of our our family resource center formerly known as friendly resource center i won't try to say the name again because i always butcher it but but anyway great work where we looked at surveys had parents and students present and each of the schools were able to construct in that goals related to their sipsas which then will tie into our lcap so seeing all this come together is is remarkable and then the last one just is the expanded learning opportunity plans uh met with another group today uh the board hopefully we'll have two contracts coming forward that will allow us to offer that nine hours of uh programming and not in addition but added on after their school day so before school and after school programming for our families we're going to start small but we're gonna work so i think mr barassi for for leading that charge as well um so we're looking at programs uh and we're actually meeting one more group uh i think next week or tomorrow but coming up soon so anyway with that it's looking forward to october break as well i think some of the students are too so anyway that's it thank you all right thank you very much moving on to advanced planning future meeting dates we have another meeting wednesday october 19th at 6 pm here any suggested agenda items yes please i would like to add to the october meeting um the naming of the property rest west of riles to go gould ranch element and gould ranch elementary as an action item okay yay um not for that particular meeting but just mentioning that we should probably schedule a board workshop at some time in the moderately distant future maybe two or three months out for equity to review the equity policy and equity statement right okay so we would i think uh trustee kelly you and i spoke about we'd do it probably after we finished so it would the soonest it'd be would be november correct yeah okay and we don't have anything to continue in closed session so do i have a motion regarding adjournment move to adjourn and do i have a second second okay i i chair votes eye meeting is adjourned at 7 32 pm not bad you

Ann Arbor had signed a consent agreement about some nutrient pollution which is mostly phosphorus into the Huron River from the wastewater treatment plant as as contributing to harmful algal blooms that were occurring regularly every summer in Ford Lake especially and also in Belleville like Downstream of Ann Arbor um so uh so um it was timely to do another review of this topic um if you remember the city has to come up with an action plan within a year and uh the full compliance doesn't have isn't mandated by the consent to free until 2048.

in terms of the superintendent evaluation I have shared with you and what you currently are using and um so um [Music] your new wish that [Music] our documents that we were going to be looking at so yeah okay great great so the emergency PowerPoint since we're starting the Powerpoints so I don't know um so I'm just going to get started um because this was um evaluation time and you know the first person being evaluated is nervous so um this is this little cartoon I found um you're out here because you're supposed to received performance with you and I've had mirrors myself because I'm supposed to give one and when he started to put this new evaluations we discover um absolutely they are you know this is like a big deal I mean I didn't realize as well so um and in creation of the tools this is this is kind of a a Guiding Light our North Star we were related to the school together um you know no matter the specific position evaluating leads provide base and based on performance so um this was just something that really helps us frame why we were doing the the superintendent evaluations religion tool and and some of the things that we wanted it to choose achieved which is the group performance allow for the recognition of other various Improvement and ultimately as ensure the success of every student and I like that eventually yeah it gets your brain there right yeah um and if you have any questions tell me if you have questions just jump jump in okay um so the other thing about evaluation is it is no one else can do the evaluations um and it is something that has to be conducted annually by statutes so it's not um this is superintendent made that um so um that's one of the things and what we found over the past few years is all sorts of different evaluations tools foreign so but it also has to be a good tool for the different candidate is to know where the boards so um hopefully this will this tool will help to achieve that um it should be manageable for both the superintendent and the board now people who have gone from a little you know a very dating tool or no tool to do this tool so sometimes get a little bit of a problem because it is a lot of information but um we believe of everybody so um identification goals and then to talk about the progress of those delivery and the evaluations this is talking at least twice a year and it should actively and accurately and objectively because that's possible often get a part of it is being done and I do this example when I talk to you guys I I when I asked my president to do laundry I give him some high and level things like don't wash the whites but but it's between the laundry room and the clean drawers in my bedroom I really can't can't so um the ability to do it I like the way he's doing it but if I want an underwear I want him to do the one so this is kind of that way you know you don't have to always above the personalities [Music] not us and tax performance so um and sometimes that's challenging because we are all cases right we have our thoughts um so a couple of things to recognize the vast majority of board members have no experience um so we come on to we're elected onto a board or expected to do this work um system whose perspective to five different people have the evaluation but we only have one voice so that makes this process even more challenging so that's something that we also hope that this evaluation tool will help me more accomplish the senses more easily um so blueberry story um a few years ago in the 90s he and a bunch of business Executives from scientists at school should be practices the formula is there there's no problem just take the first principles of business applying to schools so he tells the story of the school district doing his presentation with no policies and nutrition and one of the teachers that so I knew you've made that ice cream oh we make the best ice cream really well she's sitting you know using my next ingredients all the ingredients and so okay blueberry ice cream is one Awards so when what do you do to get a chicken of blueberries that are two to your standards I sent it back and he tells a story and he says as soon as I said I send them back I realized she has totally trapped hey guys I'm in a track now but I'm not gonna get out without getting a little time and she said we don't send anybody back yeah the input is vastly different and that's what makes an evaluation my wife is so challenging [Music] think about the students that are coming in situations in which and they are existing and situations in which they come to you from about whether it will cover whether it be homelessness there's all sorts of things foreign we are to see connection so um it's it's a little bit different when you're doing evaluation and that is so um evaluation process performance focus on the rules or careers really important and I have some data allow for cancer parent measures of performance so when we talk about the tool we can talk about what does this look like and how the the board into get together it goes through the tools regulations to say what um create reasonable targets around movement identify areas in a relationship um I don't know if you can see this on this triangle here right is together and when we were putting this together I was trying to figure out how to put local logos in the way they looked good and my husband my son who is an engineer when he was a kid about the strongest shape of nature this is he's like 12.

before her budget hearing before our board meeting so welcome everyone um I'll call the meeting order here 7 pm and Kimberly if you do a roll call please here Andrea Corey here Greg Meyer here Scott Middleton here here hi thank you have a quorum we'd all rise and say pledge allegiance pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America as justice for all thank you all right welcome visitors both of you are all three of you I'm sorry I'll press sometimes on the visitor so didn't mean to leave you out there so be welcome all right so we'll start off with our public hearing yeah the uh budget's been on display for the last 30 days per Illinois code there are three funds in the red meaning that the expenditures are more than the revenues which does not mean that we're going to be it's dipping into the savings we do have fun balances there that are doing for that uh fund 60 which is capital projects we levied for seven hundred thousand dollars um but we're going to spend 1.2 million on the new Middle School roof we're redoing the roof at the middle school for 1.2 million and so that's where we're going to get a deficit in that I will say that we did the Eagle View roof two years ago last year we did the high school roof two years ago I believe but with roofs and Tuck pointings those are big things for all of our buildings there's no capital projects other than what we're looking at for the high school but we'll have to Bound for that anyway um and so that being in a deficit is just we're going to pay down some of that that money imrf is only 37 000 in the deficit um as we said is the Auditors we were extremely strong in that fund uh having a death deficit of 37 000 the Auditors will say we're really strong in that fund still next year um so that's not an issue and in the education fund we're 474 000 in the red however I want to remind everyone that last year we were projecting seven hundred thousand dollars in the red and the year before that I think it was 800 000 and we've been in the black both of those years so this is a worst case scenario um it's kind of hard to judge with the covid monies coming in and out and things of that nature but I believe that this is will most likely be in the black in the education fund um but if we do with this worst case scenario of the 25 million dollar 284 800 projected Revenue we're going to be just about 1.2 million which is 4 percent which is not much and again that's the worst case scenario I believe that will not be under we will be in the red in our capital projects but that's because we know that we're doing that Middle School roof and um it's more money well spent so questions concerns comments on any of the budgets anyone okay now it's time for public comments and questions anyone have anything from the public hearing none will move along and that will conclude our budget hearing for this year I entertain the emotion to adjourn make that motion thanks Scott I have a motion for the birthday boy do I hear a second oh I'm sorry I didn't even say it out loud thank you Adam oh roll call please yes correct Meyer yes Scott Middle Camp all right Lisa Schumacher yes question search fairly painless so we went and we'll Now call the regular meeting to order they can do another roll call please make sure nobody snuck out Adam Hampton Tammy Hein here Andrea Corey you're here Greg Meyer here he's got little Camp here Lisa Schumacher yeah Tyson search here oh good so that's a quorum welcome again visitors it's been a long time hope you guys been doing well I'm hearing public comments before do I have any now well you guys are lively bunch all right we'll go right into our consent agenda it's great if you walk us through that and so you've got your minutes and your finances um all of those are as per usual we have the resignations on on the list that I emailed out last week we need to add Kristen Schaefer our district payroll bookkeeper is going back to the city so I just want that duly noted and for employment of educational support Personnel we're also adding Dave Jackson onto the list he was a late addition um but he's on the agenda as well so our vacancies are still Cooks at Eagle View paraprofessionals at CMS although I think Dave filled that one didn't he yeah so the paraprofessor at CMS is gone um and then we do still have a bookkeeper position for payroll um that said the administration recommends the board approve the consent agenda as presented that change done on the expenditures that I talked about yesterday yeah no yeah I'm sorry that's actually in this pile Lisa Schumacher pointed out to me that we had the roof project in the fund 20 and in fund 60 and it's going to be coming out of fund 60 which is where it's budgeted so um the purchase order for fun20 isn't has been removed thank you for that with that with that change Administration recommends the board approved the consent agenda okay perfect any questions comments concerns I'll make a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented animated second thank you Rocco please yes go on to item six is our communication report and presentations and enrollment report is in your packet I'll go to the administrative reports I think we have a building reports start with hello welcome um I met you all a long time ago when you hired me but I married the principal at Eagle View um with me tonight is Mrs Amy Freeze and we are going to just share just how the years gotten started so as a reminder Eagle View Is pre-k through first grade so we're the ones that lay the foundation get everybody ready to learn and that's what we've been focusing on for this last month it's been a wonderful start to the year we have already completed our fall benchmarking we've already implemented lots of student Support Services as you know we've expanded to where we can have a full-time school counselor and that's been fantastic um he's we call him Mr Josh is Joshua kerth um he's right along playing with the kids at recess having lunch with everybody and it's just been really great we've been implementing the PBIS as you know as a district initiative and so with the little ones we started off with more of a community like whole class initiative with that and now we're starting to grow into learning about like individual behaviors and how we impacted each other on the community so we'll have some pictures that we can share with you Amy's going to talk a little bit more about some specific pieces and I'll chime in here and there awesome again my name is Amy Fraser think I've met pretty much everybody have you last a couple times and I teach Early Childhood the first set of pictures a lot of it is with the Pre-K classes and including my class as well we discussed apples you know as a fall theme we've cut we cut apples sold in the Stars seeds we learned parts we made applesauce apple pies my class didn't really care for a lot of the apple pie stuff but I thought they look beautiful they were great they were out of biscuits so they weren't even five material but anyway we learned a lot and the kids loved it you know you can see all the Hands-On stuff one student in the front right there is looking at the Apple with the magnifying glass which is awesome discovering the parts that way so you know we're learning the rules you know beginning of the year is about all about learning rules following directions playing well with others and now we're on to doing some fun learning with that um kindergarten day or with the kindergarten on the next slide sorry one um can you go back to slide one just real quick the top left corner sorry I organized slides they're kind of like thematically so we have our experiential learning here and that continues into our music curriculum they've been exploring World music through like Latin America and Caribbean country so they were doing some hand drumming in other pieces like that okay now we'll jump into connection and when you were talking about music Mrs Hughes also told me that she's teaching The Kindergartners the four voices which is like Whispering talking singing and calling um in a proper healthy way as well as feeling and finding the study beat that's what she's doing with kindergarten and so along with that with the music for first grade she's exploring steady beat no study beat rhythms and loud and soft um and reviewing experiencing the basics of music so did you know yesterday was Talk Like a Pirate Day did you all observe oh yeah we did an Eagle View actually might have been day four now um so yeah if you had driven by Eagle View at any point you saw some pirate treasure hunting going on um it had to do with literacy so it was really great the integration of that right so yes and the first great or kindergarten I'll go to kindergarten I don't know if that's on this line kindergarten's on the left but we have some others coming up okay so um kindergarten had Grandparents Day um recently I think that's on the next slide maybe um that was a huge success and that was awesome to get parents back in the building you know obviously since covid there's been minimal amounts so grandparents I think they loved it and they enjoyed it um they did things like having Donuts they read stories with them they danced to music they did arts and crafts and I also think a couple of kindergarten classrooms said parent night yep Mrs Royce and Mrs uh Turner they both hosted a family night and I was able to stay for that too that was really fun so the hallway was just lined with various um you know their games their chess Checkers some steam or stem kind of activities to do some literacy centers and so it was just a great time for people to come with their families and learn together in the classroom awesome and then first grade I know they did some quill riding which I think was was back on one of these slides which you know they in the top right they were using the doing the quill riding and then what else do they do with it so it came out of they were um the story that they were reading was Curious George at school and so Mrs Worsham this is from her class she started talking about what school was like during different time periods and obviously they've been working really hard on nice handwriting with their pencils and she's like well check this out so they did some quill riding and it was a hit I think they have a newfound appreciation for pencils and then first grade coming up for first grade um the teachers are organizing a community helpers day um that's actually coming up this Monday where um like the EMS police and fire come to um Eagleview and they station outside and there's groups and you rotate from one to the next I know last year the big hit was the Drone from I guess the fire I think it was the fire station they had this drone that went off that was the big hit and of course the um the police chief stop or not the police chief but police Hopkins is a dog but so anyway those were the big hits from last year and it's nice too because field trips I mean everybody can have one field trip a year and this is nice because we can bring community members in they can learn about them and it's kind of like a fun field trip day so that's coming up um I have two more to get me no uh we can go to the next slide real quick I mentioned PBIS earlier so this is a nice view of our Eagle block at um Eagleview so you'll see different Eagle bucks in different places our children don't really have the concept of money just yet but we're really working on 10 frames and so one of our teachers um Kelly search customized this and so these will be the eagle bucks that they will use and um like I said earlier we've been doing classified incentives and so Mr kirth Mr Josh is up in the top right and officer roach was around too so we went around once they had all met their class goal and we had they had a choice of extra recess and popsicles and you can see what they chose some of them kind of they were very intelligent they're like can we have our popsicles outside we're like that's great Synergy I love it so um it's been a wonderful treat and it was a really good bonding time also especially for our new SRO officer roach to come in and to get to know the kids in that kind of capacity all right can we go one more yep and I think is that the last one for us yeah okay so do you have your last piece yes um and in PE the kids are working on following directions and their motor skills um catching and throwing and I didn't want to leave anybody out so speech and that's a big component of like my classroom as well the speech ladies in our building are fabulous I have a lot of children with um that are non-verbal and so we have talking devices and they the speech therapists are awesome showing us how to use the communication devices in the classrooms and throughout the day and they're also working great with the parents and showing them how to use those um that's great and then speech is also doing um Mrs miesner is also doing a group thing with Mrs Dill in her room so they do like if we're talking about apples the speech will have a center and some of the kids come to her for some apple speech and then they go to the physical therapist in the room and the occupational therapist in the room so they're doing group group themed work to incorporate their physical therapy and occupational therapy because sometimes that isn't as much fun sometimes so if you're doing it in a theme basis it makes it more enjoyable for the kids to wrap it up I think I mean obviously I'm biased but Eagleview is the best place for a kid to start their learning Journeys um I have never worked in a building that's more collaborative and has everybody on board with supporting their kids in whatever way possible we always talk in the district it's not your kids or my kids it's our kids and that's something that we very much live and breathe every day so it's been a fabulous start and I look forward to talking to you at the end of the year to talk about how much they've grown this year thank you thank you to our assistant superintendo um so what currently what we're kind of working on and focusing on is next Friday September 30th is our first half day so remember last year we had the earliest out on Wednesdays for plcs we decided to restructure that time an hour of time is really hard to get any quality professional development or professional learning done during that time so we restructured those so this coming Friday is our first one and so the teachers will have time for meetings with their teams and then in the afternoon they will also then work on some more PBIS training by building wise and so like Eric was saying their Eagle bucks are a little different the way things are rolled out are a little bit different in every building so it's just some additional time for the administrators and the teachers to work together the PBIS team to kind of lead them through that so we're excited about our first half day we have a book study currently going on so we're doing um Gary Brooks who I don't know if you've seen or not he's a principal in Kentucky um but he's also a social media YouTube comedian star kind of thing he was in Edwardsville this summer and several of the teachers went to see him um put on kind of a motivational but really kind of getting to the heart of some bigger educational topics um and so we're doing a book study on his book right now and I'm excited we have 41 people participating in that book study currently we're on week two right now so it's been great it's a lot of interacting commenting but just getting to see what you what each other thinks and all that um I want to give a shout out to all of our k-4 teachers and the Middle School Math teachers we've started implementing our new math curriculum we've had some hurdles with shipping as like we got semester two books in and not semester one and so um I cannot be more thankful to those teachers for being flexible for um you know we've gotten like the digital resources and they're doing what they need to do um but also change is hard right and any time anything is new but a new curriculum especially when it's math is incredibly difficult and I cannot say enough about how positive the teachers are with working through this they hit us uh roadblock they'll email me or they'll talk with each other on their teams they're reaching out in other ways it's just been fantastic and then a couple of other I have a couple pictures for you to shout out a couple other things so the top left corner is our dramatic playroom at Eagleview you which is so awesome this is a vital component our kindergarten teachers are required to do the kids assessment which is an Illinois required kindergarten State assessment and a lot of that data has to come from watching kids play and interact and how they are building those foundational social skills um so Sarah chudd one of our kindergarten teachers helped kind of set up but she also went through and made like videos of here's what you could do with these different stations and there's a restaurant and a doctor's office and there's all kinds of things um but it's awesome all of the classrooms are utilized in this room our first grade I was over there the other day and this is actually one of our first grade classrooms utilizing it um and the teacher was making notes of social emotional growth and watching the students interact um because right we're responsible for educating that whole child not just with math and reading and all of that kind of stuff um the bottom right corner is a picture of we have an ell student this year in at Parkview and she speaks very little English she can speak in her native language and listen to it but she cannot read her native language so it's presented some challenges um and so I cannot say enough about Megan Boyles as her teacher Michelle Gillum who is our school psychologist has been helping us out in Kim Lintz and Mr Dugan we've met together as a team we've been trying things out um Megan and I touch base all the time and I'm like okay let's try this and we'll try it and she'll email me and she'll either be like yeah that was great or she's like didn't work I'm like okay back to the drawing board and we just she just keeps trying and going um but I walked into the room the other day to watch this little girl and help her out with morning work time and she was actually helping the little girl next to her because one of her strengths is math and she knows her math facts and they were doing a multiplication worksheet um and so one of the other little girls in the class was struggling with her math fact worksheet and our ell student who again has very little English communication but they were partnering and working together and she was showing her and drawing pictures for her it was just it melted my heart as a an educator to walk in and see that happening um the top picture is Tracy Hayes and Sarah Stumpf from our two secretaries from the Middle School um so all of our secretaries are amazing and do so much um these two have willingly taken on my crazy ideas I'll come up with trying to problem solve something whether it's with our ASAP system or things going on in Skyward and I'll think I'll have it figured out and I'll run over to them and I'm like okay from a secretary standpoint does this work what do you think and they'll try it and same thing they'll give me feedback we'll go back or they'll email me with suggestions um so I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate those two helping me with my craziness and the bottom picture is a picture from the high school um and so our PBIS team at the high school has really taken to getting the kids involved in different activities but so on Fridays they have a rotation and depends on the grade level but they are either doing Foursquare a rock paper scissor competition trivia or what am I missing a jumping thing um but so they have these competitions on Friday they're great the classrooms are earning points the home rooms are earning points um in competitions but they also on Mondays do PBIS and they um are working on doing a positive act so like I don't know if you've heard the talk about filling people's buckets right and like doing a positive act and so the homerooms on Monday were deciding what positive act they were going to do um and getting the kids involved but so all month they earn reward or earn points so they get them for these games they get them for positive referrals there's a name tag activity that they created and then at the end of the month there will be winners but there will be an assembly where there will be the four square champions from each grade level will take on each other so bringing in that competition that High School enjoys and thrives on but totally weaving through the concepts of PBIS and that's all we have 12 members on that High School PBIS team that have come up with all this they're organizing it it's just been amazing I've been over there I was like oh I don't know if these high school kids are gonna jump these cones and play a rock paper scissor and like I was downstairs in the hallway and the hallway upstairs I thought was gonna come through the floor like they were just all in um and so I think that goes to those teachers and all of The Home Room teachers though really getting their kids excited and hyped up and and all that so a ton of fantastic things going on in our district right now and I know I talked a lot so I'm going to turn it up all right just it's wonderful to hear everything that's going on in the buildings to be honest I've not been in the buildings as much as I've wanted to be um Staffing at the district office and everything that goes with that change has kind of pulled my focus I appreciate everyone that stepped up the flexibility and the understandings that's been given during this time Kim and Kristen have been excellent the time that they've been here sadly Kristen is going back to the city I will miss her as she transitions back to the city I do want you to know that Julie's agreed to continue the contractual services that we need from her as while we find Kristen's replacement change is never easy but it's it happens that we're going to make it through so um that said uh we did have an item that's been tabled the topographical survey that's off the agenda it's not coming back until it might need to come back we kind of have done as much as we can without a topographical survey and what we're doing is now we're looking at the building because before you really need to know what topographically needs to happen with the parking lots and everything you need to know how much you need to expand and so an inside look to see what we moved to might call for a topographical survey later but we're not going to do it at this time and we'll talk more about the programmatic piece when we're at that action step we will have closed session today uh to discuss legal issues and student discipline however there's no action afterwards so that's pretty much my report short and sweet I've been really just focused on the district office sure all right items seven is items per action we'll start off with the approval of the 2022-2023 school budget yeah I think I went over everything at the hearing Administration recommends the board approved the budget for the 22-23 school year as presented any questions all right I thought I'd entertain a motion to approve the budget as presented I'll make the motion Thank you Lisa try your second I'll second how many seconds a roll call please Andrea Corey yes Greg Meyer yes it's got little pants is a Schumacher yes Tyson search Adam hunt Adam yes Tammy yes perfect motion carries unanimously all right Item B is approval of the administrator and teacher salary and benefit reports this is one of those yearly reports that we will post on the website once you have approved it um it's been put together it is accurate Administration recommends the board approves the administrator and teacher salary and benefits report nope any questions or comments we had a chance to look that over so I would entertain a motion to approve I'll make the motion Tammy makes a motion or a second oh second Adam seconds uh roll call please Craig Meyer yes hi this is Schumacher yes Tyson search Adam hemken yes Tammy Himes yes Henry Corey yes all right item C is always a fun one this time of year as we appoint our ISB iasb delegate yeah um at the Joint conference that they have in November one of you uh typically the secretary uh goes and represents the board at the next month we will be discussing various um resolutions that the Illinois Association School Board is considering you guys will come to a consensus and then you need a representative to make that vote at the Joint conference Administration believes that it's always worked out with the secretary doing well and since Tammy Hines is going to the conference she is the secretary Administration recommends the board approved Tammy Hines the board secretary as the board representative we're gonna be like to volunteer Tammy for her I assume you're okay with that I'm fine before somebody points finger you right all right we have a motion do I hear a second I'll second you Lisa all in favor all right any opposed perfectly all right and D is approval of the project authorization with FGM Architects for the expansion of the Columbia High School yeah and you guys had that in your packet um Adam did have two things that needed to be uh looked into so 3.22 where it's fees and expenses of Consultants not included in this proposal uh we asked who that would be and they said really just brick partnership which is our mechanical engineering Consultants that we may need we also asked if um we would be involved in the conversations before we agreed to service them and they said yeah we would be involved in the conversations before that and then the second one was 3.5 um we're you know this proposal is based on uh 60 days and six months and so the timeline was kind of a question and they said they'll have the deliverables by the end of the school year so we should know what we need by the January board meeting I would think with those two clarifications um and the end of the calendar year yes okay that's cool here yeah right you said school year yeah yeah okay that's why January would be presentation perfect thank you for picking up no I just I mean yeah six months so we didn't know if it's new math or not that's awesome there is no curriculum exactly yeah okay anyway [Music] Administration recommends that we approve the project authorization with FGM architects and the changes Adam came up with very been Incorporated they were they were yeah and so they're they were fine you were fine they did not revise the language in their proposal but they just clarified but we do have been writing the clarifications and writings all right I mean discussion comments concerns well they may like to make it I think before we go so just for everyone's awareness so that I don't know if we're going to talk more about that so it's basically just that first step of them helping us put the put the concepts and the drawings and and you know having an architect an engineer and some other trained professionals give us an idea of what's feasible what's not feasible and I call it a concept a phase or a concept drawing um that'll help us Benchmark where we want to go from there so that's that's really the reason for this portion it's not a commitment to do any construction or anything like that it's it's really just expansion of the discovery phase so and this goes hand in hand with our ongoing discussion of our preparing for the future and what are our best options so with them said this is just an more exploratory thing taking the next step but and it says rendering so do they draw what it's going to look like yeah so they'll have they'll have I guess images of you know what the all what options they think are feasible based on what we tell them is our is our you know the general desires or the the requirement and this will have space allocations and then things like what will work with existing space and how you know what what how many people would different rooms accommodate you know that type of detailed information that we'll need to really be able to say does this does US meet our you know our needs if we grow this much versus you know two times that much and what kind of timelines and how it would fit within the space of our property okay well they also put the floor plan together as we can get in there yeah that shouldn't that should all be part of it from uh from a high level yeah the preliminary plans we have was that distributed to the board or just us just a committee okay all right so yeah yeah well that's a good idea um they did have some preliminary plans where they're suggested where we could expand build move parking lots that sort of thing so Adam's actually done a great job and him and Chris actually walked the property and looked at a lot of the elevations and said Yep this will work this won't work go back and they have uh has some really creative ideas as well to save us some money and improve the space and and uh again we had a committee myself Adam and Chris were have been working quite a bit on this and uh I want to thank Adam it's going to do that later but go ahead and do that now but he's really done a great job in in revising all this and even the preliminary plans kind of rearranging and say this will work this won't work and making some good really really good suggestions that uh it's very rewarding to to see progress and not just rubber stamp but we're actually a working group that I don't think it's making a difference so thank you you're welcome yeah and that's part of the reason we're at this phase now like Chris said we went away from the topographical you know uh project and this isn't going to be that far different as far as the cost of what the what those Maps were going to cost versus this so this gives us a better idea do we need to put top of the entire thing or only a portion of the property you know what all do we need so this will this definitely helps us better Define exactly what we need to ask for so we're not not buying something we don't need and not missing something we do need so do we know any more about the right turn yeah it's just not going to happen it's not okay okay and I don't know if it um we're looking at other solutions for that um but that's all going to come out and I think I mean that's as we're doing all of this we're looking at the the footprint of this but then how did we are there ways that we can structure the the traffic and whatnot to make that better so so I wouldn't anticipate a traffic study after this phase yeah yeah just to kind of nail down exactly you know instead of kind of speculating and testing it does it work by trial and error if we're going to plan for growth with in an area that's already congested during our high traffic times beginning and end of the day I think I think we will end up there with getting a traffic study to see if some areas being One Direction if we need to widen some things you know different Alternatives I I would anticipate that after the space Miss Smith and I um had had a meeting with Douglas param and Chris from the uh the city and looked over those plans a little bit we discussed the traffic and so the school's working with the city as well to try and make sure that what gets done is best for everyone thank you good conversation anyone else I'd be like to make a motion to approve the project authorization with FGM architects I'll go ahead and make the motion thank you Adam second place in seconds a rocker please search yes Adam pumpkin yes Tammy Hines Andrew and Corey yes yes most cares you man absolutely item e is our approval or the resolution resolution excuse me for Signature powers for the safety deposit box access yeah and so we have an activity fund account and so we need to change out our building principles in um two of the buildings to make sure that Ms Benny and uh Miss Miller are on the activity funds accounts um we also while we were doing that we're going to add um Miss Smith to the what I call the big account and also for the safety deposit of the box um and then uh there's some other accounts that we need to get me added to uh that are really just uh electronic accounts where rev track when you when you make a deposit for to get your kids lunch money it goes into this account and then it gets transferred over so we have a couple of accounts there that I need to be added to and so this resolution would allow those things to happen and I can go to Commerce Bank make sure that all those people are on the signatory sheets so the recommendation Administration recommends the board approve the resolution for signatory Powers at safe deposit access as presented I'll make the motion a couple seconds well moving right along all right roll call please Adam pumpkin yes Tammy Hines yes Andrea Corey yes Craig Meyer yes Scott Middleton hi Lisa Schumacher yes Tyson search yes okay letter F is the adoption of the teacher's retirement system or the state of Illinois supplemental Savings Plan yeah last year the state of Illinois started a supplemental Savings Plan it's another it's a for for Education we do 403 B's instead of 401ks and so the teacher retirement system has a 403 b that teachers can put into they're looking at mainly the tier two employees and letting them put other money aside for themselves this is a state mandated thing I believe this is also Ms Schumacher's second question I thought that uh the name Kristen Schaefer was on the teacher retire when you said the teacher report I was I was the car and I wasn't looking at the agenda and so I thought she was up but she was clearly talking about this one and uh what we're going to do is the resolution will give me the the authorized officer and on the sheet of paper that you have in your board packet it does have Kristen Schaefer as one of the people that they would cut the TRS would work with that name will change when we have an employee that we hire for that but what you're really approving is that um I am the authorized agent and that I would authorize my district office staff to be able to do that so if that makes sense what I'm saying is Administration recommends the board approved the teacher retirement system of the state of Illinois supplemental savings plan with the superintendent Chris Grody as the authorized officer which goes along with the resolution that you have and then thank Andrea do I have a second I'll second I broke up please yes Andrea Corey yes Greg Myers yes Scott Middle Camp aye Mr Schumacher yes Tyson search yes I do want to jump in real quick and say that uh Miss Smith did get TRS to come down and talk to our employees when is that going to be December 16th and I can't imagine them not mentioning the supplemental Savings Plan and they when they meet with the employee employees but I think that uh that's going to be a really nice event for get an update of what's going on so thank you for that Perfect all right item G is the approval of our school Improvement plans for 2022-2023.

foreign like my mom she'd say that hey I'm Cheerio Kelly I'm the principal at Pleasant Grove Elementary School I've been here at Center Grove for 21 years in some capacity I have a fortunate I'm fortunate enough to introduce you to one of pleasant Grove's finest and uh you know I I was thinking the last couple days what I was going to say and it was a bumper sticker that really solidified everything for me so when you see the the bumper sticker that says humankind be both it made me think of Ruby Bean so I've nominated Ruby Bean to do the to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance and I could give you a little bit more information Ruby is beyond just kind um that I could give her the best compliment that I can possibly give and that is I hope she becomes a teacher in my building since she she came to my building as a first grader you could tell from the get-go that she had just genuine joy in life and spread that to other people and she still does that even as a fifth grader where sometimes I'm wondering okay where are we going with these fifth graders she is absolutely amazing every teacher every year has told me thank you for putting Ruby in my class she's here with her mom Amanda her father Stefan her brothers Oliver and Max and her mom her grandmother Ruby if you'd like to come up hi my name is Ruby Bean will you please stand and join me in saying the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all picture that's okay it looked good on Amazon okay before we go on to adopt the agenda there's something I'd like to take this opportunity to clarify some information that was questioned at the last board meeting the claim was made during public comments that some of our high school classes were not displaying the United States flag as required by the state law at the conclusion of the board medium last month Dr Long took the time out of his evening to walk every Hall and check every classroom in high school every classroom he checked 97 a total did have United States flag as we have shared I'm a veteran Dr richardkanov is a veteran and Dr Bill long is a veteran and we take this flag right here pretty serious so we feel it's important to clarify that information with you guys this evening next on the agenda is adopt agenda Mr President Moses didn't made a second to adopt the agenda all in favor say aye anyone opposed motion passes thank you next on the agenda is public comments regarding agenda items we have one person Bill Collins for Improvement plans and policy revisions uh Bill I'd like for you just uh just state your name if you're affiliated with the group keep your comments to three minutes stay on topic and direct your comments is to me only and don't mention anybody else's name my name is Bill Collins no I'm not affiliated with any groups do I need to get my address and all that other stuff right there 3865 new battle Lane Bargersville Indiana 46106 so first the uh the policy revisions at the last meeting there were 75 Pages worth of policy revisions that you guys called it a first reading you guys didn't read a single policy so this time you guys are going to call it a second reading you guys probably aren't going to read any of these you'll just vote on them um it's kind of disingenuous and then you guys are going to have another first reading hopefully you'll read some of those I doubt it though 75 pages that that's kind of obscene not to read any of them and then the school Improvement plan I uh I asked for a copy of it because it wasn't readily available and I received an email basically telling me no but one of the things that was interesting and kind of ironic down at the bottom of the the email that told me no there was a little quote says uh never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world indeed it's the only thing that ever has and that was a quote from Margaret Mead I think that that's awfully ironic that when uh small groups of thoughtful committed citizens ask for information from the school corporation we're told no I don't see personally any reason to hide information or delay the release of information this is a public school funded by taxpayers of this public so members of this public asking for information you guys really have no right to hide or delay any of that information being released if you guys are working in the best interests of our students and of this community why hide or delay anything that there's really no purpose to it and on the topic of the Improvement plan I did with the help of Dr arkanov and I'm sorry I forget the name of the person he referred uh the email to they were able to get me to last year's Improvement plan and the benchmarks for that um according to the Indianapolis Star we failed to meet those benchmarks what happens if we fail to meet this Improvement plan is there going to be some kind of remediation for the staff for the administration is there some kind of consequences or just every year we're going to keep making benchmarks that we fail to meet for the last decade the school has been failing it's convenient to blame it on covid but for the last decade we've been failing and nothing's been done about it except more Improvement plans thank you Mr Collins next on the agenda consented consent items agenda items as presented any questions Mr President I move we accept the percentage of that as presented sorry that's your weight now sir that's why I was looking at you foreign excuse me to approve the consent agenda items that's presented all in favor say aye aye is anyone opposed motion passes thank you next on the agenda is our action items for this evening 6.1 Dr arkanov thank you Mr Hubbard okay this evening I'm recommending that the board accept bids for Middle School Central so with that I'll have Dr Long provide you with some additional information thank you um just to recognize uh Jim Gully from a come hunt is here tonight Jim's been with us for quite a while working on our projects on September 1st 2022 we we received bids for the Center Grove Middle School Central Edition and renovation project we received bids for bid packet number three General trades bid packet number six Mechanical plumbing and fire support bid packet number seven electrical and Technology bid packet number eight General lighting and bid packet number nine classroom tunable lighting and vid packet number 10 Food Services equipment due to the lead time of some of our other trades we previously awarded bid packets one site work bid packet two foundations bid packet four structural steel and bid packet five Roofing at the July 28 2022 meeting so if you were wondering why we didn't go one through uh 10 that that's the reason why we had approved those other ones all together we received a total of 18 bids for the six bid packets and we were about 347 thousand dollars under our estimates tonight we're recommending the board except the bids for the falling bid packages bid packet number three to Young Klaus Campbell in the amount of five million nine hundred and seventy nine thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars bid packet number six to grinder Brothers Incorporated in the amount of two million one hundred and seventy six thousand dollars bid packet number seven to pay an electric in the amount of one million one hundred and forty one thousand 936 dollars bid packet number eight energy harness Corporation in the amount of thirty six thousand four hundred dollars bid packet number nine to energy harness Corporation the amount of 197 300 and finally bid pack at 10 to CNT design in the amount of one million forty thousand three hundred and eighty one dollars um we as I mentioned previously we've started a few of those other projects our goal is to be finished by May of 2024.

three of those budgets have been posted on the state site and on our website for the live the live show anybody's had a chance to see it I've not received any questions we're currently looking at a rainy day we advertised five hundred thousand dollars Debt Service 3.6 million uh operations 15 million in education fund 35 million is what is advertised for the budget the capital project budget is advertised for direct purchases of 332 thousand dollars over the next three years and then the capital projects in 2023 is 1.9 million 2024 is 2 million and 2025 is 7.9 and lastly the bus replacement plan is a five-year plan and there range from 231 000 in 2023 up to 248 000 in 2027 and that's just keeping our buses that's getting uh see I guess in the process of that five years we'll be buying another [Music] if things go like their but anything can happen to sort of modify the schedule but that's where our plan our plan did right this meeting is actually for input so does anybody have any comments on um the budget proposal and the plans the capital project Finance plan and the bus replacement plan hearing none that will adjourn this meeting for those who have joined us live on the stream the regular scheduled school board meeting will be stream on a different link so please join us over on that and give foreign

man's got the weather good afternoon and welcome to East Meadow high school for this afternoon's matchup between the Minnesota Falcons and your East long metal Spartans I'm Brady doback joined alongside with Teddy hewn tonight and uh we're ready to get some action going yeah so it's a beautiful 61 degrees out here today it's was pouring all morning and uh so The Field's gonna be a little bit slick the ball's gonna be skipping a little bit so the goaltenders got to watch out for that but beautiful day for a soccer game absolutely perfect fall weather and we're ready to kick this one off miniature starting off with some quick possession Riley steps up finds Oliveira in Olive area with some Running Room looks to Monroe in the middle Monroe switches Fields over to Richards oh Richard's a touch move inside tries to get a shot on it good save in a save by Ben Wilson he slim out with a quick shot right off the bat Wilson punts it just short of Midfield where it's picked up by cam ice and sent back to Barlow Barlow will go to Wilson Wilson ships it out wide presnell trying to play defense Richards assists trying to use his body but can't quite beat him Stone a one touch over to presnell in the middle of the field Fresno plays out wide over to Oliveri oliveri's got plenty of real estate to work with crosses it into the middle and it stopped nicely by the minute chug defenseman Ben Biggins passes it out wide to marrigan with some pressure from Matt O'Keefe up top O'Keefe will chase chase down marigan on the outside merrigan back into the middle finds Monroe Monroe One Touch back to Richard Richard finds Oliveira on the near sideline Oliveira quick cut move tries to cross it in this inside and it's deflected out of bounds off of Nicholas soupsick this is our if you're joining us live we're very happy you're here with us today once again Brady doback alongside Teddy Kuhn and we've just started this game 37.50 remaining in the first half 0-0 East Longmeadow applying a lot of offensive pressure early making minnichog's defense show them what they got Teddy so far how you liking it oh it's all right you know getting good shots off I think it's gonna be important to really test Ben Wilson today especially these shots Ted I know you and I we both played on the same team for quite some time we've we played here at the turf when it's a little rainy out yeah and uh you know those balls they skid a little bit yeah you know so you get those shots on the ground those one Hoppers you got to be careful especially with morgato and Wilson they've got to be aware of those Hops and make sure that they can trap the ball the ball can also slip through their gloves absolutely got to adjust to the conditions and discolio put it to the sideline marrigan chips it back towards the middle Richard trying to find it can't and it's cleared back to supsec Super SEC plays middle towards ice and isil one touch it towards the sideline and across over to Atkin Atkin crosses inside and it's well defended by diascoli coming off of a recent loss to Pope Francis 2-1 East Longmeadow coming off of a two-nothing win against East Hampton last night AJ Morgado with his first shot out of the year and there's a head ball on that and it goes off the crossbar there's going to be a whistle I'm going to assume that was an offsides or not it's a field goal yeah I believe it did yes hit the field goal post and so minichogs gets a freebie here as weslowski will be taking the corner for minnichog yesterday certainly the posts were morgado's friends and that couple went off the iron there weslowski throws it on the ground all the way and easily scooped up by Morgado foreign over the back Barlow goes to Monroe Monroe chasing him down and puts Barlow on the ground and Dia Scully playing defense on Atkin and touches it out of bounds ball boy gets him a fresh one I'm not really sure what's going on we got a couple guys tying their shoes here and it's gonna be throw in for Nicholas soupsack definitely butchering a lot of these names steady it's definitely not how you pronounce it at all how would you say that name that which one right here I'm not even going to attempt it metatronics also got a lot of Junior and seniors yeah they do they definitely an older team um they don't have one sophomore so they I only see I got a couple songs rice Barlow as well as Ryan purchase so and Brady sumala salmala so they've got three underclassmen the rest are upperclassmen so very old team an experienced team here for minute jog a corner goes to the far post Morgado tries to punch it out what a save and he'll do a great job of controlling the situation and Scoops that one up no damage down there again another player trying to go over Monroe's back there Biggins steps up makes a play on ice cam ice moves the ball out wide looking for Atkin and Riley shuts that one down should be a corner kick for a minute jog number 14 of Cam ice we'll be taking the kick ice sends it towards the PK mark and it goes off ahead and scooped up by Morgado Morgado punts it just short of Midfield and we've got a miniature player down on the ground around Midfield holding on to his right leg try to go up for the head ball over Monroe already got cleated yeah perhaps Monroe coming down I'm not definitely looks to be the right leg I believe lower part of the leg Yeah Shin ankle Diane coming out in the cart yep Diane definitely looks to be in pain [Music] it's never fun when you get a couple spikes to the like that you know was not fun we're gonna take a quick break injury timeout clean up uh if I don't have hockey if I don't have hockey I can't know yeah all right yeah sure if I'm available absolutely so so when I give if there's a ball out of bounds or something your job is essentially to like an analyze it a little bit yeah it's our conversation like if there's some dead air I'm play-by-play you're the guy who's supposed to be like when we have dead time bring up a topic or something he says you're gonna you're the like the analyst like person what's that no my brother that's my brother's thing yeah he's very good yeah he does hockey he's really yeah he's like UMass hockey yeah 12 that's 12.

when uh some of us may not be here anymore so um so it's a long Horizon but uh one thing I want to emphasize from the front from up right up front is that there has been a lot of research over the last 25 years there's finally been a lot of money spent on time now and uh [Music] I'm trying to figure out what the contributors are to harmful algorithms and there are uh however there has the remediation newer remediation Technologies and methods have not kept up so I think there is a good reason to wait until this is to consider some newer Technologies before making a commitment making a financial commitment to doing something that may be out of date by the time by the time it's implemented foreign so um so here's a picture of what harmful algal bloom is like but nobody's seen them before here on the left we see that uh we have we have a typical appearance of an algal bloom you have these um you have these algal mats that develop on the surface of the water uh the water column gets anoxic meaning that the all the oxygen is depleted in the bottom of the lake and um it's causing a lot of organisms to die including fish uh they fall to the bottom of the lake and create more enoxate and multiply the enoxic conditions so you'll see here in the middle there's a picture of the kind of slime that you'll pick up from these blue-green algae they're called algae algal blooms but these are technically speaking of bacteria a blue-green algae these are the organisms that first they created all the oxygen we breathe on the planet now because originally there was no oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere and um over uh eventually life figured out how to deal with oxygen and actually uh and so it detoxify it so um so organisms the blue green algae that are still with us multiplied and over a billion years or so I've created the oxygen and all of the oxygen in our atmosphere um and then I'll go right here you'll see um a picture of a satellite picture of Lake Erie so most of the most of the algal blooms in Lake Erie are caused from agricultural runoff so we don't have so much of a issue here in on the Huron River with agricultural runoff there is agricultural lands but uh not as much as you find in Lenawee County um you know Monroe County south of us and most of the pollution actually comes from um by Ohio Western Ohio so the problem here is that uh phosphorus is is commonly the limiting nutrient for photosynthesis in most water bodies on nitrogen you know you have uh if you buy a bag of fertilizer you'll see near these numbers for n p and K N is nitrogen uh that can be limiting um for for growth of organisms P is for phosphorus um that can be limiting um both on land and in water and K is potassium but that's rarely limiting nutrient um in in water bodies um most of the problems with these algal wounds come from excess phosphorus excess nitrogen can also play a role but more so in oceans and in Oceanic algal blooms not so much in fresh water and so our local soils contain relatively high levels of phosphorus generally they're sufficient to support plant growth so there's very little reason to be adding phosphorus to agricultural land here or to uh or to you know your Lawns and Gardens and any additional phosphorus that comes from surface waters for ground Waters that are above these Baseline levels will contribute to harmful algal worms that are toxic because these blue-green algae when they die they secrete various toxins that are liver toxins and neurotoxins they're called Microsystems are the ones that are best characterized but there is a whole Suite of toxins that are not so well characterized but microsystem is the one that is fairly prominent in most harmful algal wounds and they uh um and and they do cause um uh sickness in people and pets um one thing that needs to be remembered is past contaminations are banked on the settlements that means that the Huron River already has lots of phosphorus in the bottom in the bottom settlements and so this is what creates a major problem is because um without removing those sediments they can be remobilized by organisms in the river so um so it's certainly important to cut whatever um punch whatever excess phosphorus is being released to the river this practice needs to stop um if we're going to get the river back to a healthy state um but uh but the other thing to think about is that there are these past contaminations that are still there and it's really economically infeasible in order to be dredging uh the river to get these sediments out and back on the land uh Kathy you have a question um yes I raised my hand before you said that but I was just wondering when dredging is done and I know they did it uh down at Gallup Park once does that actually disturb the phosphorus and even though some of the sediments are taken out their they're releasing more into the water I believe in most cases it will but um you know as a scientist I cannot say because nobody measured that um and I'm not aware of any observations like excessive algal wounds that were seen afterwards um that's something that has to be studied on independently oh okay and I was just thinking that sometimes neighborhoods get together that that live on small lakes that that then flow into our Watershed and and you know just do the dredging themselves so okay okay so [Music] um so I'll go through this fairly quickly so uh this is just a slide that shows you where you can find information and Report some EPA is a very extensive website up here um eglov has um has a website that you can find at this uh URL more specifically there's a report that was issued in November of 2019 specifically about Ford and Belleville lights so anybody can go with this um URL and read this report and the city of Ann Arbor website has a good website where they point to these information resources and also talk about actions that the city has done historically um to reduce phosphorus pollutions in the river um now um and uh recently the government accountability office the federal office issued a report to Congress the agencies and communities um basically the interagency working group that was formed in 1998 to study harmful algal blooms um Congress designated both NOAA and EPA as co-chairs it's been a failure so far and that neither Milestones nor performance measures neither the original Milestones nor the uh nor performance measures were really um were really instituted and part of the problem is that this interagency working group was not a funding body so I never was able to provide any funding by itself what it was we're more like voluntary contributions from from EPA and the NOAA and other government agencies um so um another another there's been initiatives of a great number of um of governmental bodies on harmful algal rooms and blooms in the Great Lake Great Lakes um the Great Lakes Commission hav collaborative is one of the major ones but you'll see the several others um from almost any environmental or governmental organization that deals with water quality and the Great Lakes has has a has a has a body as a committee that does work on harmful algorithms now what's happened since 1998 well there's been a fair amount of money invested in uh in setting up data collection and um the informational resources and that's about it um there's the the data collection website part of EPA is the cyanobacteria assessment Network and it's about the only deliverable that's happened so far from from this initiative that's been going for uh 25 years now almost 25 years so the the only question I want to bring up here is that are the plastic remedies adequate so there are chemical remedies and biological remedies that were proposed for many for many decades um but um but a lot of but there's many uncertainties in a lot of these calculations and results uh for example the total maximum daily load that's what tmdl that's part of the Clean Water Act as um we have to estimate what the total maximum tolerable daily load is for phosphus simulator so there was a re-evaluation that was completed in the Siegler report in 2019 but it's really Rife with crew destinations and you know suffers from propagation of errors um well the recommendation is that it should be based on a watershed management plan any action that's taken to reduce phosphorus loading and to meet those tmdls requirements um is really inadequate to the total goal here and I don't mean to be dismissive about this what I mean is that it's a valuable watershed management plan that was developed through the Carolina River Watership Council in 2020 there's a lot of valuable work done there but the the question in my mind is that the linkage between whatever actions we make and whatever improvements might happen uh in in the downstream lakes board lakes and Belleville lights um is not really clear cesaria clear it's a good goal to reduce our phosphorus emissions but the only question is is will that be enough to really prevent harmful alcoholic influence from getting worse because especially when you couple this with climate change because historically for example um you know Northern Lights have not been so vulnerable to harmful algal blooms but in the last couple of years there have even been harmful algal wounds in Lake Superior well Lake Superior and so um the current plan um you know uh is taken from that November and this November 2020 Eagle document which is right here there's an appendix and Professor Lehman at the University of Michigan has critiqued it uh publicly um but I think this but I think what really we need to do is invite Professor Lehman and some other people later on to come and do the do a presentation we'll have a broader discussion of this at some future environmental commission meeting uh my only goal today is just to inform everybody of these of these information resources and the conclusions I've come to some extent yeah please ask any questions as we go along um and uh and I'm not gonna because of time limitations I'm not going to collaborate on any of these but uh there are some 36 member remedies for harmful levels for reducing phosphorus that have been suggested uh there's this there's a website on the state of Connecticut has put up a website you know which is the easiest to navigate on that on that topic so what about our wastewater treatment plant settlement agreement um it's in three phases tier one is um is from last October to next October so in other words October of 2023 we have um whatever we do is based on the EEG status quo anti which is basically uh 0.8 milligrams of phosphorus per liter of water coming out of the wastewater treatment plant um and tier two I'm starting in um in October of 2023 to October of 2048.

but uh you know you're all familiar with in loco parentis um and there's a reason why children can't get their driver's license till 17.

I'm like who knows that I don't yeah yeah um but it's true and that's why we put this is strong and it's a good working relationships it's important writing Clarity to the process um it also allows for the employee superintendent to ask questions and understand the perception of performance and provide additional information and consideration um it also requires justification and evidence for employment decisions if we were working in any way um and then um you know do you do somebody read into detailed writing evaluation so there's lots of different things to think about communities which is totally different to a teacher evaluation or any other employee evaluation so um so you want to talk about if you want to talk about some superintendent's performance there's a kind of a facets I'm happy with them maintain that um how much information is necessary to address the public interest and concerns versus the will versus will the information so those are just some transparency things to considered um so you know one of the questions we ask right away is how to do the word superintendent prepare for the evaluation cycle um the most progress you can so this is a sample evaluation cycle that we just just create it yours doesn't have to look like this side what it looks like um so we just start with it with the superintendent Compares for an evaluation cycle um the disciple and goals are set for the upcoming year if if four conversation and then that's a good time but that's not that's not what we want it's about um that is why we recommend at least a touch of point in the middle of the cycle um and then um order and refresh the video and then at the end of the cycle um we do the evaluation you you generally you have an executive session and that is decide on having to participate um so it's something that reminds District does around the board member is we talk about superintendencies here that's we just want that to be transparent please these are the things I was working on and here's the products and we've just done our timeline of course it's always based on the uvira and we just put into dates yes and then you know the thing about policy you gotta follow it in the policy um so any questions okay you know because we they wanted to adopt and approve an evaluation instrument prior to and then you are saying this is your combining a status update this is something new it's like the massage transparent and accountable I think you'll be fine um but I would suggest um so evaluation tool again but um you know it's it's pretty solid I mean you can still do some tweets to it and then we'll talk about that but um yeah yeah I think and I think you could approve something like this when we start when we talked about it originally the whole thing is going through every single indicator and talking about what does that look like it's very hard to get by members of the board to agree with what was this before you did after documentary and it would take hours right so here's the thing indicator yeah so um I want to go through the tool Page by page I do want to do that because what the intention of some of those things are because there's one piece of document one piece of documentation or data could apply to maybe 10 minutes you know you're going to be reusing some of these things because there's it is purpose of all that we are thinking throughout at every single part of the evaluation that's not an accident that would be thought about that because when you're talking about is this full accountability I have to talk about this more accountability in operations if you have to talk about an infrastructure relationship you kind of have to talk about it so there's lots of different places and we're working data points every single one of them so but we can go through that um and then sometimes yeah I mean it's a blueberry right yeah there you go um there are some things so so there are some areas that are going to be technology but remember also that there's five of you and you you can average out a conversation whether you assign a score to these yes um okay so this is just the the new evaluation tool this is the setup of the tool so there are six domains in the evaluation tool under each domain there's a number of standards and then under each standard there's a number of performance indicators so it's um it's pretty straightforward uh we think that is this this is set up it also kind of mirrors some of the teacher evaluation tools that amazing state so we thought that was important as well because teachers are being evaluated all the time and if they find their superiors to have accountability themselves um so here are the the domains the leadership and history and culture and then the poets under each of the standards so each domain has a number of standards that you see I'm not going to read them to you before reading um but so those are the first two leadership and physical culture instructional leadership number one um organizational management so this is like the Budget Finance operations and Human Resources components so it doesn't mean superintendent Institute every single one of these videos we will look at that you might have someone doing it for you and you get the benefit I mean they are hard work and that that is reflected in both obviously so I I don't want to say it's the superintendent is every single one of these performance is of course herself is exactly the inaccurate that's the reasons to structure um and civilization you know some some way to be able to lay out of organizations so that since two superintendents not doing everything although I would guess in the rural school districts yes [Music] so the Equity diversity and inclusion because this is really about just making sure that your students that's really what that's about um Communications and community relations so how do you make it internally and externally what was its family engagement support look like and then communicated so if you have both of the positive having a small community to serve which you can sometimes be negative because everybody knows everybody again yeah on campus I totally get that you can't do anything about it because that was my life growing up um so you know there's positive and negatives about that so we do you'll see in the tool that we really encourage um what are you prioritizing what are you the most focused on healthier um so they are specific and measurable to keep the goal from relevant yeah so the general um all students in Arizona will support profession on English language art stay safe testing not specifically when by when and every single student do that in one single year probably later so you have to really think about the way you write your goals um and everybody knows this but it's hard sometimes so it's just a courage to do that so we do have smart goals for uh our district goals that we're going to be for helping him comparable for as a school events such as a set of Continental students for your third meetings I think that's a great circle specifications and then there's a slow trickle out the door and then we get to the really important part it's just some employees community members that we've had we do Isis superintendents report persons it's a little report because it isn't about yeah as a student involvement is just doing data so we do those two reports in order to do visit student recognitions because this ending meeting yeah yeah and we have a lot of them and and a couple people can probably say the same thing yeah yeah um so this is you know does your board share the types of evidence and dating you'd like to see as a part of your life because this is where again you've got to have some conversations and I meanings of the majority rules and sometimes it may be that your project you were with what you think is most important is not what you're doing and um and and sometimes we have to swallow that as a relationships this time you know I'm Gonna Keep application um all five board members you have to say exactly what they want because that's not how this just works asension so especially if you and then you're working remember more brand new um so sometimes we go through actually you see that most of them are driven or performed by the superintendent in terms of the um yeah because you don't want to send the superintendent among the like because it's so um you know there's a couple of things but in general by data um something in the evaluation I think it's I think you superintendent should provide that because again oh [Music] um okay so uh the tool that we're going to talk about also um indicators it looks the performance indicators are allows for domains so there's six domains um we're going to be able to customize the evaluations of the district in the different kind of values so a couple of things that um told me that use the pilot one was they really wanted to focus on communication they're external and Indian terms so so they weighted back down higher than that otherwise in my school district could be used is this particular as a pilot and a brand new superintendent so he waited um because we really wanted to do superintendent and focus on that for superintendent relationship with more governments the policy piece so um so so that domain is is that's totally adaptable okay I probably wouldn't change or every couple um you can add performance indicators to this if you want to if you think we've missed something if you're important to bring it because or standards but we would argue about that the performance indicators that are into there are actually what questions foreign [Music] which again you wanted um and then the superintendent said to accurately captured their key competencies and it provided more clarity around the government and that is the one that I'm most proud of because I think if you have a clear idea of America you're supposed to go um and so that and I had a superintendent say to me I'm almost embarrassed to tell you this but is this really helped me articulate what my job is I I knew I did all this but I didn't understand that I could absolutely it's the same way the positions help me understand you know what I do how I do it um so I think you know that we're excited about that now you know a lot there were some people that were definitely board members oh my gosh you know but I have some superintendent yeah I know yeah all right at the same time what I've found out especially this is superintendents who have used it is this is way better than the nebulousness conversation that I used to have even though it's longer even though it's a little bit more cumbersome um but it's also the first time anyone ever uses it so imagine that as you know somebody are there any um music I just was on the um there's a lot of good Buzz about it and people are really excited so um and we're not really tracking it because we're not targeting this is going to be a totally a benefit um so the tool itself like the handbook that's just a distance that's yours for free and we want you to use these people so um and I just I I've spoken with I would guess me I probably spoke in the past months so okay yeah we'll be right back [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign amazing so I I need to talk to you in Phoenix that back in the day our first couple of evaluations were out of here [Music] um was not to leave it up and have a lot of changes yeah I mean I know before I was on my support [Music] so this is going pretty well but what I I truly do hate very year-round was the superintendent's job is yeah because you know when you look at the single meanings they're never really been confident in everything and I think that a lot of organisms thank you foreign okay right now for the week he's still exist good job okay yes yeah because in between your calendar you're doing all the ongoing stuff yeah um possibly do today I know that day you did these three things we have some specific criteria there and there have been more members who foreign come on and in fact it is that's what you should be getting that is that's what your child is superintendents this year um evaluation because he's new okay and then he brings himself something and then it affected you know and then there are few questions that was good because I got stuck last year we ranked it one through five or something like that and I was trying to do the ACC and maybe we all were definitely not on the same page and that's to right [Music] stage you can see at the top um and every single one of the domain says of is that that happens to me that every single one of those has to happen it is a pretty difficult to measure with data how a superintendo university a little bit more yes um but you have to look at a good objectively as well so um so not we put that code in not because and one thing I don't you know one of the things is there to be so much data that is that it's just I I can't even begin so um it really helps you modify what that looks like and now industry used which is fine um [Music] is is visible and accessible in the school district this is a perfect place for before because that you can you could provide I go to Every quantity uh the knees or something that has an idea about that they'd like to see and that's a great conversation to have because there's a whole board says the agenda so I'm glad you mentioned this because this is one of the ones that we first looked at this because we say well you've got energy means in here and 10.

yeah I'm going to turn this one over to Miss Smith to talk more about than me so in your packet you'll see the first one is the list of our district-wide goals and they really um revolve around five big themes so culture and climate of our district PBIS the new math curriculum professional development and student growth so as we set up the professional development and make decisions this year in the district these are our guiding principles that we're using so these were then provided to the building administrators and each building then had 18 and they were asked to as a team review these goals and then set a few that they wanted to focus on in their building and so then what you have in your packet are the building goals for each building but you'll see that they all connect back to one of these five district overarching roles questions I have one yes so and this is just I guess the every word has a meaning um so two of the different goals it actually starts with to create a climate and I guess that leads me to think that that climate doesn't currently exist or are we building or expanding or advancing the world so it kind of depends some of it in there are components that I would say don't necessarily exist and then there are parts that we need to revamp and change um especially like that very first one with the culture and climate um kovid was hard on everyone um there's been a lot going on right in the district that's been hard on students on staff on administrators um and so we're kind of wanting to almost like scratch and start new so that's kind of where part of that create came from so not to say that there's never been empathy or inclusion in the district um but some of those areas we kind of want to start fresh and start over again kind of with a clean slate okay so that that one I actually sure could make that assumption but the third one is kind of the same on the third bullet where it says monthly activities will help create a culture of inclusion empathy and professionalism um are you on a specific building on Parkview sorry okay the third bullet so that one definitely implies that we don't have a culture of inclusion empathy and professionalism sure um and I don't know if that was like I said that was written by that committee um so I don't know if they're thinking like clean slate we're going to start fresh with with what that is um but yeah I'm sure they were just taking the wording from the first one on the district plan and going with it from there it's not not an objection just yeah sure well I love this I think this is great and I love the specifics especially on Eagle View so way to go on that I would love to see at the end of the year where each School feels like they ended up and I know we started this several years ago and we never really ended up coming together because of covid um but I think this is way more specific than what we had before and so it's exciting to see hey these these are I like the ones that are more detailed of course rather than the more general ones but the very they're it's exciting I think it's even exciting for the the liens and for the teachers to have these goals that they can now see in in writing and go for I think that's really awesome so it just really helps because I mean there's so much you could do and you can't like do everything right so it really helps narrow our focus and make sure not only that we're honoring our District's growth and development but also keeping our eyes on the prize in the building as well not that those are the only things we focus on but those are kind of our guiding our guideposts along the way helps me tremendously as a new principal I love it any other discussion anybody like to make a motion to approve the school Improvement plan as presented congratulations for a second thank you Tammy all in favor any opposed potentials aren't perfect She carries right that concludes our action items now we're on to discussion items revert back to the facility study we kind of touched base I just really quickly uh double board that I will email uh the plans out to you all and if you've got questions concerns comments call me or um Mr Myers or Mr hempkin good enough individual board member comments if we have anything we'd like to share this evening um I do um I just wanted to let everybody know here and and whoever's watching that um at the end of my term in April I'm going to retire from the board so it seems like a long way off and it really isn't because when it comes to as as folks here now when it comes to getting signatures and getting on the ballot and doing those kinds of things that's that's right around the corner so um but I just want to get that out there and let everybody know that uh I'll be hanging it up I said retiring at home and they said from work I'm like no not yet yeah okay you'll be 15.

if you're fine with that we'll table those three and recommend approval of the remaining list and then I would ask that the board take our advisement first reading which is item number six on your agenda but there's together to hit better advisement for first reading tonight okay so if we could let's take this in a couple of different sections first if I could have a motion to table those three policies 42 16 32 16 and 12 16.
