we're gonna head to a break we're gonna swap field possessions here and we will be back with the kickoff in the last of the third quarter right after this welcome back to kchs here from East Alton where the Eagles have finally landed in the end zone and Trail it 14-7 with 34 seconds remaining just vaguely teased it up sends it deep on a low kick it's gonna be picked up at the 10. ton of eagles down there on the making the recovery and it's going to be brought down by number two Carter Hicks at the 30 and if Carter doesn't make that tackle he's got some rumors we got an issue clock never started though you're right on that I remember you saying 34.6 so they're still 34.6 good play there by Carter so the Eagles defense has made the right adjustments let's hope they can make it one more time well at least one more time probably gonna need it again later gonna be split out single receivers tight end right up back right running back left he runs it to their right number 22.

he's been physical all night he keeps his feet moving brought down by number two Hicks gain of two maybe three and that is probably gonna do it that's going to do it they're not gonna get to play in 20 seconds they haven't done it all night that's going to do it for the third quarter so the Eagles finally get into the end zone and Trail this one 14-7 in the koki conference matchup that has a lot riding on it like Jared said earlier tonight if you get a win either team right now they're both sitting at four and one a win tonight makes you eligible for the playoffs with those five wins need six to get in for sure five will get you at least eligible so we're gonna be back to East Alton here in a minute Oilers are going to go from there 34 they're going to swap field go over to the other 34.

they're going to be going light left to right when we come back right after this welcome back for the fourth quarter 12 minutes remaining as we start Eagles are going to have three down linemen five linebackers all up on the line of scrimmage likes gonna Blitz he forces it back inside there's Eagles there a good stiff arm Buy number 22 gets what's a lot of the way he hangs on just enough and Nick Janet comes up I'm sorry not Nick janick Logan Hicks makes the tackle in the end but it was gain of nine and a first down Eagles must stop right now and if you resolve One River you're most likely gonna waste a lot of clock here and try to get one more touchdown and make it a lot harder for the Eagles to score two touchdowns whenever they have the ball for almost seven minutes a quarter tight end left up back left they're on to the left that's the wide side of the field and they're gonna gain another six and this is seven and this is what we saw a lot in the first half so East Alton has made an adjustment here after those first two drives where the Eagles didn't even give up a first down I want to know the time of possession of this game so far luckily I think Howie would have that for us here at the end of the game and yet you're still only down to score and you've probably played your worst game all year you don't like saying that in week six yeah you don't like saying this is our worst game second down in three 10 45 remaining in the ball game hard to believe it's week six already running it to the right side right I had a good job there Maddox Stefan oh they gave them a good spot his knee was down way back here Maddox had no option other than the hang on right there makes a tackle but it's a gain of three and a first down for the Oilers now have the ball in Eagle territory at the eagle 46.

[Music] yeah this is a I must stop here because if they I mean if they score here they're gonna waste probably four to five minutes of clock then you're gonna be down two scores with about five six minutes left so they're going to the wide side of the field you got two guys pulling this time number 22 running hard got hit about two yards up field and ends up getting 15. water run there by number 22 and number 30 that Wing back pulling for him ball now in the 32 good for 15-yard gain 10 minutes remaining in the ball game [Applause] come on Coach G Ben don't break they've ran three plays in two minutes two full minutes three down lineman five linebackers you got man-to-man on the outside they're gonna run the same play this time to the right side and set to the left Seth number 22 makes a man miss gets another 11 yards and good for another first down yeah they're kind of riding on him right now first down Seth sladen the senior He's listed on here as a quarterback and a safety but he's a pretty good running back and I think it was 24 that we saw most a lot of in the uh in the first half so kind of switching rules here 9 15 now under 10 seconds on the play clock doubles the left side two running backs are going to hand it off to number 35 he's running downhill hard he's gonna get six maybe seven gets it down to the 15 yard line and it's good for a second down and five based on that Pat that they tried kicking earlier they're not going to have much of a field goal kicker I think the ball might have got off the ground about a maybe a foot already 8 30 left here Schnabel Kish and Hicks your downlinemen five linebackers still doing man on the top side of the field in the doubles formation they're going up the middle though this time with number 35.

I couldn't tell if he was playing safety or if he was playing up as kind of a linebacker any kind of I mean Brennan Brandon White had him beat at about the five yard line if that ball was in the air to him but vaguely tried throwing at the Janet then complete third and ten 453 left here in this fourth quarter same formation again for the Eagles Hard count hard count third and five now for the Eagles if I'm watching film and I'm watching Colombia my whole next week I'm gonna have a segment that I just work on hard counts coach Warner calls him he loves calling him I mean I didn't why wouldn't you it's a 35 yards yeah I think we've been successful on almost every time we've done it this year this time trips to the right side running back left gonna be a pass play to the right side he's got Wetzel on the snag routes wetzel's going to get a first down run to the right side if he's going to get out of bounds that would be awesome and he's not he is gonna be good for a first down gain of 10 inside the 20-yard line 444 on the clock Eagles Trail this one 22-7 are you going for two now are you gonna get a touchdown get one touchdown first and then kick the field goal now and then try to get that on side kick because if you go for two now and you don't get that you gotta pretty much shot yourself in the foot there so so doubles now running back to the right side clock ticking away 4 30.

he did not get out of bounds clock started pass play once again to the right side Vegas gonna have to scramble looks to the corner of the end zone for Janik and it goes incomplete vaguely gets knocked over late at the end all the Columbia people over there have their hands up in the air no penalty flag throne second and 10 4 20. looks like we're gonna go trip to the left side ball on the right hash Hudson Bryant is the running back with vaguely pass play here for the Eagles once again gonna have to scramble looks to the corner of the end zone for Bryant and a tough ball there I think Bryant was looking to stop and Scramble with dom he had wike again on that post route running down the middle of the field nobody really picked him up until that safety came off of I think it was wetzel's man what do you think they go hard count oh man you're two for two I mean well he can hear him while I watch the ball trip to the left side running back to the right looking to the left side is vaguely he's got what do you know Zach Wetzel has a snag route again he's inside the five good for Columbia Eagles first down 406 remaining Bryant comes off Carter Hicks goes on Wetzel goes to the right side of the field ball in the middle of the field 404 in the game Eagles are turning around looking at coach Horner got to get a play call in here we're gonna go double stack double stack to the outside this might be dumb coming this way slot receiver gonna be a run for Dom he gets absolutely blown up Carter Hicks didn't get a block down where he was supposed to might be a loss time out on the play for the Eagles 337 that's a good timeout by coach Warner there I mean you had double stacked to the right plus another guy so it's basically trips and you had hoppermill over here by himself um and you only had one guy over the top of him and the next guy on that defensive line that was close was the free safety point in the middle of the field so I would have liked to see if Dom could come to the left side where there's less Defenders at but he wanted to go to the strong side see if we can make a block but not able to get in the end zone there as we're on the looks like two or three yard line down there so Eagles come out to the field I'm trying to get in the end zone on this play right here all right second and three or second goal from the three Albert pools home runs 701.

Columbia 13 nine point game 321 remaining now you need to have two why you don't kick the pat there I really don't I know that was the same play so just flipped I don't know I feel like you take the point there and you're still down in one possession with 320 left a lot of time even if you don't get the onside kick you can still go to stop time left and you still have two timeouts I don't know I think you take the pat there and still go down one position Roxanna leads it 26-6 over Freeburg that would improve Roxanna to two and one in the conference and drop freeberg to Owen three so the Eagles are going to have to attempt the onside kick here haven't seen this this year yet so we'll see what happens if vaguely gets a big bounce and it's going to be caught by the Oilers and they're going to have the ball at the Eagles 46 CR line 45 yard line rather with 319 and gotta figure eagles are in a bad spot right here they need to hope for a fumble and a scoop and score with another onside kick yeah oh man three down alignment for the Eagles gonna be Joe kiss Schnabel and Hicks five linebackers again nothing's changed they're gonna run it to the right side Force back to the inside gonna get a gain of one penalty flag they're gonna call a face mask all right you watch they didn't see anything yeah they're gonna get Wetzel on a face mask you can see how Wetzel doesn't like that call and I do not like it at all that is awful I did not see any face mask whatsoever on there he didn't he didn't even really make the tackle he was just coming in to try to finish the tackle there are already two guys bringing him down and I do not like that call at all and that was literally right in front of us yeah there couldn't have been any more right in front of us so it's a five-yard penalty Corner wants to burn a timeout so especially in that call right there so you call the penalty it had no effect on the play yeah none and by and wetzel's not a guy that shows emotion a lot on the field he's quiet he does his job does what he's told and he was jumping around right there not liking that call it on you don't you don't see that much from him so no that's a probably a missed call there that they did call not a fan so now Colombia with one timeout remaining with 312 left in the ball game ball at their own 43-yard line looks like coach Warner over there watching the replay looks it looks like it or is that I think that's him all the way on the right side I think it might have been coach Kendall showing Coach G yeah that was not a face mask no so same formation for the Oilers same play for the Oilers they get first down strip the ball Russell trying to go for the strip but it's good for a first down and you gotta think that really puts us about Out Of Reach here for the Eagles yeah and they'd move the chains another first down and if anything you were hoping for a stop on that for the first person ten and then burn your two timeouts if you have a good second and eight then like a third and six but now you're only down to one timeout and that clock's Just Gonna Keep On ticking I'm really impressed with the way they are able to control the game though like it's it's really impressive and I don't think their o-line gets enough credit but I mean that 22 and 24 tonight they've been running really hard and hitting their holes they're gonna run it to the left side this time the wide side of the field brought down by Dom vagley burn another one and the Eagles are going to burn their final time out with 224 remaining [Music] tough game here for the eagles they came in after a big week five win over Freeburg 24 nothing come out tonight flat I guess you would call it and the ball goes in between uh wetzel's hands gets intercepted we had a next Drive I think we stopped him on that drive yeah because they scored the came out and scored well then the next drive you got the fumble we had a good run get stripped from behind so uh just another turnover there I think we had another one more turnover that led to points now and that was whenever we had the ball in a two-yard line and cam Janet was looking like he was gonna score but fumble in the end zone for a Touchback and Eagles have tried to fight their way back in this that last Drive they had Don vegely with a touch three yard touchdown run but they elected to go for two and not get it so we are down nine quarterback keeps it goes up the middle he gets three maybe four brings up a third down and six 2 15 on the game clock the 31-yard line now for the Oilers so again penalties or not penalties or other turnovers a couple penalties did hurt us here too as well but more so the turnovers coming out flat not a good game for the Eagles under two minutes now and like you said Jared this East Alton team they did everything right tonight and they did everything they needed to do yeah um the quarterbacks only passed the ball twice so one for a touchdown yeah it's been a rough night for the Eagles no it looks like East Alton Wood River and wants to call a timeout and talk things over third and seventh with 135 left here in the ball game Eagles down 22-13 next week we'll be homecoming once again that parade on Wednesday the game on Friday 5 30 at the perch look for the Columbia quarterback Club tent you're not going to miss it that is going to be where the quarterback Club will have hors d'oeuvres and soft drinks for everyone that comes down once again past the past the word along we need many people out as we can t-shirts will be available while supplies last and we will honor that 1972 team in between the third and fourth quarter we tried to get it in between the first and second but with student stuff going on for homecoming they are going to be between the first and second I believe it is a magical homecoming or something like that I think it had something to do with Disney happiest Homecoming on Earth something like that I don't even to and I don't like to use that term meet parents where they are but meet where we all are so that may mean going out to where parents are removing all those barriers that create issues for parents coming to our schools and you know we know during covid we had to have some of that just to keep everyone safe and social distancing but now that we're back regularly we are a regular form I guess I want to say we are opening our doors to all of the families that come to Danbury and the other thing that we heard from families is that they wanted to become better educated with what their children are doing and how they can be part of their their child's education even more and so we use What's called the Connecticut framework for full and equal Partnerships it is a framework that was developed by Karen Mapp or not care map I'm sorry Ann Henderson under some of the work that Karen Mapp had done and Danbury was one of the highlighted districts in this new framework when we put together what is a full and equal partnership so Ann Henderson ran several groups here in Danbury with parents with teachers to find out exactly what was that definition of full and equal Partnerships and from that we've really built out this whole framework so Mike if you want to go to the next piece so my original position when I came into this position or came into the district in 2008 was really to oversee our before and after school program which will see in the upper top left and our School Readiness program oh no not scoring the Family Resource Center it then morphed into overseeing the School Readiness program and at that point we had two sites we had one at Mill Ridge school with two classrooms and one at Morris Street and then um as things morphed and we received funding we were able to move in for the first renovation that we did in 2009 2010 at the 49 Osborne Street Building and then from there it was it just kept building um then Kevin came in as our superintendent and said so who are your family Liaisons and I said we don't have Liaisons and he said well let's see how we can make that happen and so we then added family Liaisons to the work that we're doing we then formalized or back in 2000 and 10 when we moved into the building at 49 Osborne Street we really focused on making that a One-Stop shop for families and so you'll see that's where the family and Community engagement Center came in we received that nice Federal grant um from the the fed the federal government some set aside money from the state department or the Secretary of Education and we were able to redo part of the building and start a family Literacy Center and so we had families coming in and out of the building receiving um you know food receiving books for their families and then about at the same time somebody over in central office said to me um you know we need to bring in more grants for this District how do we bring in more grants and I said well you need a 501c3 and the district didn't have one and so in 2013 we incorporated a board of directors and it started off as the Danbury family Literacy Center was incorporated in 2013 and in 2015 it received its 501 C3 status which allows us to take in Grants from uh companies from private foundations and really be able to bring in extra money not extra money but money for programs family you know we'll pay for our upcoming Family University in November it pays for a lot of the things that we do for families in the district along with that we were all also able to bring in Partnership schools which is part of the joy Epstein model through a Federal grant through crack out of Hartford and so those schools have specific learning initiatives that they're working with in their students learning goals Behavior goals and family engagement goals so let's go into the next um piece and at the end we'll talk about special initiatives so the the whole purpose of the family and Community engagement Center and I certainly um hope that we can do something about meet the board at our Center is it's really a One-Stop shop for our Danbury families it's welcoming to the to the to the um families as they come in we speak multiple languages there so no one should feel that they are coming in and not going to hear someone or be able to speak to someone that speaks their language um I'll I'll skip over new promise program just for a second the major reason that families come to there is to register their children and so when they register their children they go through the online process of doing the registration first then they bring in proofs of their documents and then they can come back for play groups that we run they add upon registration receive a really nice welcome packet that tells them all about Community Resources it has where they can go for heating assistance snap we make sure our families are are signed up with Husky we make sure that they know what's going on in the community different types of programs that they can register in at that same time if they need the before and after school program we can register them in that and if they have younger children that are threes and fours we can register them into one of our two School Readiness programs we also are a resource and referral So a family might come in and say that they need um you know more food um so we refer them out to the different food banks that we run and we really make sure that families have what they need particularly during the pandemic we heard from a lot of parents that um didn't know how to use the technology they question how do they get on versatran and out of that work came this new promise program the new promise program is module one which we have fully developed at this point and have been running courses on it so it's module 1A through 1p or one yeah 1p or Q maybe now and so parents can take that in two or three nights and they learn everything about what is Google Classroom how to sign into PowerSchool how to use schoolology is one of our newest things how to find where the menu is how to um use parent Square which is our new communication platform that we use and just a lot of other questions we designed this with Karen Mapp who is the guru of family engagement with her students at Harvard and so they were able to gain the Harvard students were able to gain credit for helping us design this program but it's specific to Danbury and it has the Harvard stamp on it so we're very proud of it and Lindy funded all of the program for us so that's really what happens at the face Center families can come there if they just need to talk if they need to really work through something um they'll come in um you know every day is a little bit different of why parents come to us next slide so the learning the before learning the Extended Learning programs is really our before and after school it's our summer Sensational program it's our 21st Century Learning Program it's a whole bunch of different programs that's a main focus is to extend the day help with homework to make sure that children that don't have help at home can get the help they need by certified teachers and by our Associates it's small group tutoring and then of course we focus in on wellness and Recreation team building the students in the afternoon by might be building something with Legos homework completion and then some field trips that we do as well we're very fortunate to be a long-standing district with the state department of Ed for having 21st Century Learning programs and so you may hear well my school charges 18 an afternoon and my school charges five dollars an afternoon for the same program well the 21st century program funds this at a high enough rate that we're able to offer that discount to parents and so every time that Grant comes out we apply for more schools right now we have four schools so we Broadview Rogers Park shelter in haystown school we will reapply most likely uh for Park Avenue and Ellsworth School in the next go around for Grants um underneath me I have two wonderful program managers that actually run the programs they split up the elementary and middle schools to oversee them and then at the schools we have site facilitators um that are the the the folks that are on the ground who really focus in on uh what happens um with the students and then the associates maintain that one to ten ratio along with that I also have data folks in an assistant program manager that help run those programs okay so you'll see some fun things we do you know family uh components cooking Zumba homework and social skills family literacy family activities and coming up on Saturday November 5th we have our first family University so next slide the School Readiness is a program through the department of the Department of Ed as well as the Connecticut office of Early Childhood we have had 56 slots for some time now one and so those programs started off at Mill Ridge and Moore Street and then when the schools needed space we moved to Cottage Street this past year one of our Danbury programs closed and so we received more slots so we now have 85 slots for children and so in the new Annex Building we have three School Readiness rooms with 60 students there and then at Sacred Heart we have the rest of the students there we are doing enrollment we're also still looking for staff and that program functions with one full-time director a full-time parent educator and 11 teachers and like I said we're always looking for more staff so if you know someone that has an Associates in early childhood is workers working on their bachelor's degree please send them our way we also have full tuition reimbursement for staff through our Connecticut charts of course registry for staff that comes to work for us we are licensed through the office early childhood and accredited by neyc and so what supports that is our slot money per child from the office of Early Childhood our care for kids subsidy which is a state subsidy and our parent fees and please stop me if you have any questions at all so our Moore Street Family Resource Center is also under the state department of Ed and I've given you the actual link there so you can read about it and so the FRC has six components it is a resource and referral for parents that come to Moore Street School they also have a parent as teachers home visiting program so under that Grant we have a full-time director a full-time parent educator a youth director and then we have certified teachers that run some of our science and gardening clubs at Morris Street school as well um part of the parents is Teachers home visiting program is for families that may have children birth to age five who may be at risk it might be a single family it might be a family that doesn't have enough to eat there may be some social emotional issues and so we have a caseload we normally carry in a year of 12 to 18 families that receive these home visits by our parent educator and then there's all kinds of resources that they're given they're giving strategies on behavior management things to do and activities for their children as well as we run a play group once a week at Moore Street school as well also one of the components is making sure that we have a good after school program and that you know that's where part of the funding goes to the FRC to help recruit children for that program and then the ELP program of my um of my team actually does that work we do Youth Development and then School School Readiness I apologize for the the double typo in that one so okay next slide okay there we are liaison so this is our newest project that we've had this year and I'm really excited to say that as a September or every school in Danbury has a family liaison so its goal is to really build a strong bridge between families and schools resulting that schools or that families feel welcome to attend school events and that they feel like they are equal partners with our schools that they're part of the decision-making process that they're able to give feedback to their principal and one of the best things that we did was our welcoming School walkthrough that we did in the spring and I think a couple board members attended at different schools in that parents from that did attend said they really felt like their input was valued and that's what we wanted you know when you're in a trusting relationship and you feel valued then you feel good about it and you want to continue that relationship so those are the things that we're really um building when a new liaison comes on we do a six hour initial training with them and then we have weekly PD or check-in sessions we are instituting the home visiting model that will be running on October 25th with their liaison so that they're trained for that home visiting model and understand you know the different ramifications of how to do a really effective home visiting and then we have full PD days we are happy to say that uh Dave Beckel from cross country Consulting is the one that um actually evaluates the program and so at the end of last year we asked principals what they thought about the Liaisons and how we could strengthen the program we also asked Liaisons at least once a month what can we do to strengthen the program so we hear from them on what type of PD and activities that they want and so the feedback from principals has really been um encouraging they feel that the Liaisons have added a lot to their school all of the Liaisons are bilingual if not trilingual so when families come to schools immediately there is someone that speaks their language and they don't have to go to find our third party on phone calls to get translation these folks and can actually call home and speak in their native language so we're building that that bridge many of them come to PTO meetings or go to PTO meetings making that call to parents to say you know we have a PTO meeting or I'd like to do a home visit with you or you know can you come in and talk talk um to your child's teacher problem solving with their child's teacher and things like that so um the Liaisons are are really an integral part of building that bridge between our schools at home and our next slide so as I said and I'll go over this really quickly the uh it was incorporated the Danbury family Learning Center which we changed our name when we became Incorporated operates under an eight-member board and um we just were at our president's uh wake and funeral tomorrow so um we will be reconvening our group uh the week after next to to invite more members and to vote on a new president the FLC as we call supports the face Center supports parent and family training like I said that November 5th date and we can also be the Fiscal Agent for Grants and other Financial initiatives um that we're able to bring into the district our next slide partnership schools this is from the Federal Grant and so we have Ellsworth Park The Early Childhood Center South Street and Mill Ridge that are part of this and so they fill out an extra set of documents that are in with their school Improvement plans and we've worked with them very closely with their liaison to be able to do those goals of two academics one behavior and one Family Partnership goal okay next slide I know I'm pushing through these so the other part of what Falls underneath me is a really special um initiatives in here in the district a lot of it is grant writing I am happy to say we just received a nice Grant a notification of a grant from Nelly May um this past Friday I work very closely with the Department of Ed and the Connecticut trust fund to bring funds into Danbury for our parent c groups and people empowering people we also run uh with the ritual VNA health clinics twice a month uh just Friday night we had 27 children finish off their health physicals and their vaccines so they could start this school this week and next we also Foster and support the um Mr Walston superintendent newsletter and uh last week we rolled out our first issue or edition of the newsletter that comes out of my office so hopefully you all receive that and so all the really exciting things going on we have supported and this is where my assistant director Grace Molina comes in she has done a fantastic job at supporting the implementation of parent Square to our district helping secretaries understand how it works helping all of us on the leadership team to understand how it works so that we have a really solid platform so our parents can talk to us and we can talk to them and keep them um up to date on everything we spend a lot of time with Community forums and Outreach one of the superintendent's goals and everything that I do links back to those goals but one of them is really to hear from our parents hear from the community and this will be very important as we further develop the pathways Academy and work on our budgets over the next couple of years and then we have ongoing family education besides all the different workshops that you saw that came out in that newsletter parent supporting educational Excellence we had a great group I think of 20 people people that graduated in May same with people empowering people we run Zumba healthy meals lay Sarah which is another program just in Spanish read and you will be positive discipline supporting school Success and of course the new promise program in the next two weeks we'll roll out the new District website and so that will be another way to really help parents be able to find information easy which hasn't always been easy on our website and then lastly the strategic planning that we've been doing um you know originally started with a lot of our Equity work that we started with in 2018 and so we look at things through an equity lens as we plan the Strategic plan to make sure that we have the goals and the action plans that are really going to be best for all of our families in the district and that will support academic growth for our students and that is it yep Madam chair Mr Russo I have a question sure I'm concern and hopefully you've voiced the solution and just went over my head I've uh we've had an inordinate amount of student disciplines and it's my undated quantitative debt and opinion that there are way too many of them and we need heavy parental engagement with their students how does your plan address that and glass if I missed something please feel free to chime in so so I'll start with this and then I'll turn it over to Kevin to to talk a little bit more about other things happening in the district we know if parents have the tools that they need to understand how we work in our schools then they're going to be able to provide better guidance for their students and so and all the work that we do especially the new promise program we have a whole part in there on discipline and where to find the discipline policy and how it is followed how we expect families to reinforce that with their students so I would say the the first line of defense is really having parents educated on what it is and then giving them the tools that can really help support their students stay out of trouble stay online stay engaged we know that families that are really engaged with our schools have less behavioral problems especially as their students grow older so you know we're seeing now more and more parents coming to events at the middle school that wasn't the case five or six years ago so we're hoping that this new trend of getting families engaged from the time that they're children are babies and then when they enroll in our School Readiness programs or one of the other Community School Readiness programs that they'll take advantage of all of these different programs to learn how to be you know I I don't I and I don't want it to seem like I'm saying parents don't come with skills we know parents come with skills we just have to help educate them a little bit more about our our expectation in our schools yeah absolutely that you can expect this discipline Trend to continue until the the younger kids are the parents that have joined our district to progress through the classes until the upper school or is there some immediate way we can been way too way too many like I said discipline hearings yeah yeah when I came in uh Mr Russo a lot of it that parents would come to things you know preschool kindergarten one two three where we really did this focus on helping those parents to continue to stay and the importance of being engaged you have a daughter our daughters grew up together remember those Middle School years they were brutal and so we're telling parents right off that we can you know help give you some of the tools that will make those years easier for you and we are seeing more parents stay engaged through the Middle School um level and so I think some of our initiatives you know working with the PTO working directly with the high school will be able to get that education uh to the parents and hopefully stop some of these issues yeah go ahead uh just a quick question and to follow up with Al you know I think it's very important well I know it's important to reach students why they're young yes but as we talk about the discipline policy we I see now that we have to start teaching them and explain it to appearance at a much younger age and maybe a demonstration as to what happened a mock demonstration as to what happened uh when it comes to expulsion our board members are selected and deal with the expulsion hearing because if you can't if kids and parents are going Mrs Cooper we lost you Gladys I don't know if you can hear me but we lost your audio they're not going to take it they'd rather play a game than to go on and read about the policy disciplinary policy so I I guess what I'm trying to say how can something formally be set up that we can really start engaging parents and students now before they even get to the middle school because now we know things are happening before they get to the middle school so that's sort of my thought okay okay so I I'll say from my side we will give that a lot of thought I'll work with the leadership team I'll work with this committee and with superintendent Walston and my Dr Celia and we'll come up with um you know really making some Focus um action steps for that okay yeah thank you and any any sort of timeline you could project on the action steps I can't let me meet with my team and let me bring in Kelly trucius as well our assistant superintendent of um special services this would be a group effort on how we roll This Out thank you yeah you're welcome I can meet I have a quick question I just first want to express my condolences for the the loss of the president on your board but it did ask uh bring forward a a question about how how are the board members selected for that so when we originally um started the board I went out and and reached out to like-minded folks we've always had a link to the larger Board of Ed um and then it was Eileen Alberts that when she was done with the Board of Ed in 2016 joined our board um and so we look for other members to suggest people that align with our mission of helping families uh you know get the skills that they need and so um we're we're open to anyone that that is aligned to our mission okay an organization thank you very much thank you thank you uh any other questions before we move forward um right here quick question on the um home visit protocol can you go over that a little bit more is it you know voluntary um is there two people that go to the home like you were mentioning training so I'm just wondering about that a little bit more yes yeah thank you Michelle so for the um family visits that we do through the Family Resource Center they are trained um with a program that's called Pat parents uh teaching program this is something that all of the frcs are mandated to use throughout the um um State parents as teachers training and so they take initial training and initial initial a training uh initial training there we go um that lasts for two or three days and then both the FRC director and the parent educator are re-certified every year through that that in order to stay funded we have to be re-certified through that there is a whole uh protocol that you go through to determine who your families are and when the when the visits first take place the first two to three visits it's both the director and the parent educator goes out the visits are um voluntary if a family is not comfortable doing it in their home we might do it at a park they might come into the school to do the visit they might choose to do it at the library or wherever they're where wherever they're comfortable um in doing it but we are very careful that our staff for going into safe homes to be able to have these home visits and I would say probably 95 percent of our families attend play group two so it's not just the getting the home visits but they're coming to play groups they're going to other things that we offer they attend the uh Charles Charles activities on Thursday night once a month where that's all done in Spanish to talk to other Spanish families on topics that they want to talk about so we are careful with our staff that we have those protocols in place and that they follow the pap model in order for us to keep our funding as well and there's a whole reporting piece that goes back to the state on every visit as well so how do these families get selected so the families come to play groups and then they're asked if they want to be a pat family parent as teacher family um it could be that the social worker in the school is working with a Moore Street student and the social worker might have some concerns or in talking to the parent the parent says you know I I just don't know about what to do with my younger children and so the social worker or school psychologist principal or the teacher can refer them to our director or to our parent educator for those visits as well so it can be through a referral or parents just are very interested in what this is to get more information when they do the initial sign up for they do a risk assessment sheet and that determines whether they should under the pat model receive a weekly visit every other week once a month or something like that a different schedule and you were saying that all the notes go to back to the state so it's been confidential whatever it is it is confidential it is confidential it goes into what's called a can system and that's a system that the state department of Ed uses both for the reporting for the frcs and for all our 21st century programs so it's not tagging a child to a particular issue um it it's more here's we served you know 18 families this month and you know here's how we dealt with those risk factors with the family we provided more food we help Mom to reach out to the Women's Center okay their new name things like that okay yeah it is confidential yeah great thank you um in the interest of time and I see your hand up Mr Russo but um it's 5 40 and we have some other things on the agenda that we need to get to so I'm going to ask if folks have other questions that they please reach out to Dr Mead after this meeting okay thank you so much I can't think of anything more important than um students getting squared away and parents being engaged with them strengthening the code of conduct the communication of the code of conduct to the parents in our District's expectations absolutely that's why we that's why we brought Dr beat in all right Dr Seeley yeah uh thank you so much and you know I I just anecdotally I read a uh an article not too long ago it said something like you know you only really get 10 of a child's uh youth years in school when you add up the summer times and the vacations and the time out of school um so if you know the partner If the parents aren't acting as real Partners in that process there's a real speed limit to um to what we're gonna be able to accomplish um just in the hours a day that we have them so I think this stuff is just so incredibly valuable and I'm grateful Anne is is just uh incredible at putting these things together and finding the funding I mean so many of these things are just grant funded they don't they don't impact our operating budget so um it's really really tremendous work um okay so the last two things that we want to talk here um so overview of the of the family engagement office uh we just talked about that um the two big events that we wanted to figure out and and I know we have um Citywide PTO going on at six so that leaves us um there's two events uh Kate wanted to talk about introducing Brent Dean to the community to make sure that he had all the access to healings but also that they know who he is and sort of has the the you know rubber stamp of the Board of Ed and then also just a more General meet the board uh event which I think would coordinate with some of the budget issues so people could speak to to some of the the challenges that that we're sort of anticipating um I don't know if you just want to talk about those together or one at a time I don't Kate did you you want to lead off I think we should start I think we should start with the uh the meet the meeting with uh the family sorry the community meeting with uh uh Mr Dean I think that's sort of from my perspective we need to get that one going soon to welcome him into our district in a more formal fashion we did have an introduction at City Hall with the Chamber of Commerce and there were quite a few folks there that was nice to see people you know reaching out and uh sort of making themselves accessible for for Mr Dean he's got a lot of work to do in our community to kind of get to know how we operate to know what resources are available here and I think we also have um you know a responsibility on our end uh to bring him forward as a new member of our school administration and uh to introduce him to our families so that they can get to know him and get to understand the work that he's also undertaking um so I guess with that in mind I I'm I'm looking for some feedback as far as uh when folks might be available to participate in this and to get some feedback from our Administration as far as what we might be able to have in terms of Refreshments a place to host such an event and what if any restrictions there are yeah we talked a little bit about like a wine and cheese idea maybe it's we can't do wine I don't know um I know Kevin and Anne if you have any thoughts on stuff we've done in the past um just ways to sort of bring Bren into the fold a little bit more right so I guess the first wondering is the format in which we would like to introduce Brent to the community so I'm just curious Kate and other board members like in so I ended I mean certainly we can get friends there we can get food there but what kind of format would we have for that type of meeting what were we thinking I'm just curious because I think that will play a role in how we're going to have food what that's layouts can look like where we're going to meet you know Etc do any board members have feedback before I offer some is this something that would be on school grounds or in a different you know outside venue how does how would that typically be done I think we probably get better attendance if we were able to do a restaurant or something well could I could I just move forward with the cold weather coming yeah outside would be nice and I'm also thinking as I looked at this and and thought about this earlier can number one be tied in with number four and do it in a way that you know we're meeting them green board members and then we're also introducing these new parents or parents that don't know who's a new director of of the Career Academy is and I think you know since we're we're going into the winter months and how the place and how we're going to go about doing this is going to be very important and anyone that we bring forth we want to have a good turnout we don't want 10 or 15 people coming out so to incorporate the parents and some students and maybe we might have to offer babysitting for someone okay to get the parents here because a lot of the parents don't have anyone to watch their children in the afternoon and still we can meet and greet the board members and we can also at the same time introduce uh Mr Dean to the community as a director of the Career Academy and what he has done uh since he's been here so you know he's from my understanding he's met and with quite a few people so we know with the group people that he's meeting with about business people so forth if we put on something that's going to say okay we can you know you can go up and shake his hand while you didn't get an opportunity before they will come out so it will to me it's the place and time and how you're going to go about doing it so glad as you're saying maybe just just merge the two events have them meet the board at the same time as meet Brent just everybody get together and and we do it all at the same time and what was the event you had um I think it was towards the end of last year where it was a parent event but then you were able to take the kids and they went and did an activity service yeah so we have a couple opportunities that was at our family University that the kids break off but I'm thinking you know we have and I'm tuning my own horn because I love the new building and I want to show it off and we still have some work that we're doing with it to make it super super family friendly I would love to be able to show off that building and have a formal open house for our parents I think it's an opportune time to be able to um have that as meet the board we're very well connected by an inside hallway to Ellsworth School we could utilize the cafeteria with those easels set up with pictures of the academy so we're you know come to our open house visit the new building meet and board members meet Brett Dean and find out more about what this Academy is and what it looks like there's I think an appetite right now in the community to find out what this is um I know that I've been receiving different emails from families saying how do I get involved in the formation of this so I'm really excited about that and so I've been sending them to Dean as well as corporations and then of course right there while we're there we do have the gym and we have the outdoor play area um for the students so the parents could come we could do light Refreshments um upstairs two of the building or even have Brent upstairs in our in the waiting room with those boards that show pictures of what the um what the academy is going to look like those are the initial boards that some of you may have seen when we were at um City Hall I have to say that I do like the idea of doing this on a school property I I understand what you're saying about um you know being in a space that's a little bit more social but I think the benefit of doing it on a school property is that folks are somewhat familiar with that families are somewhat familiar with that space already and they might feel less intimidated about coming sure yeah and I know too there's um you know there's still a lot of outstanding needs you know on the on the sort of curriculum and instruction side of the academy so you know might be an opportunity to talk about you know internships externships if there's folks in the community that could you know could offer some of that stuff um you know industry certifications you know guests you know guest speakers all that kind of stuff equipment donations I know Cara has a long list of stuff she still needs right now to to get the curriculum side of the shop up and running so can can we look at um a timeline for this I to Mrs Cooper's Point um the longer that we go the colder it will get um you know and I think some folks are going to be more comfortable meeting in a more open-air environment still um so I you know from my perspective the sooner we can do this the better but that of course depends on the schedules of the folks who are putting these pieces together so I mean my other thought is you make November 5th date for the family University so we're hoping to do a light breakfast in the morning followed by math reading or Ela language um and science workshops and some social emotional workshops for parents so they'll be able to receive at least two workshops we um had not planned on a keynote but we certainly could introduce him have a keynote and have a team talk more about uh what the pathways Academy is because we're going to have a captivated audience how many will you have there and um normally we run anywhere between three to four hundred people yeah it's a pretty big event what time is it at um normally it starts about 8 or 8 30 with a light breakfast then we go into a keynote session and then back to back workshops for families and we're done at 12 30.

thank you continuing um teachers who complete their master's degree will have an increase in accordance to the I herb guidelines a documented Master shall receive an increase of 50 of their base salary increase for their Master's increase and we're really excited about our new hires and we think about Equity within this collective bargaining agreement that they'll have the choice of 27 or 28 pays and sick days payout from a 50 a day which is currently to a hundred dollars a day upon retirement this will be transferred from the education fund to a sick day fund and the cost is as listed some of our language that has been agreed upon our ancillary duties from 2122 will continue through this school year which includes the fifty dollars for teachers for jump start 50 for tutoring and then our class coverage compensation for teachers that began last year is continuing some new language that we've put in is for our rehires if we have a teacher who is resigning on the last and they've worked through the last day of the school year and they return for this school year we wanted to have some language about just Clarity on what does that mean for their sick days if they've not signed a contract with any other District they can recover their accumulated sick days as follows they will get their normal amount for a new school year they'll receive up to six days accumulated and if they remain with us through the school year and through the following first check in in the following year if they'll receive the remainder the balance of their accumulated sick days and then the last area our ancillary Special Ed Case coverage all special ed ancillary pay will be approved by the director of exceptional learners are there any questions you go back two slides please okay um I just want want to clarify that um the new hires the choice of 27 or 28 pays means their pay schedule can start uh a month earlier or two weeks earlier two weeks earlier um so that those who come to join our team don't have to wait until they're already into the school year to get their first check correct um and um can you just go over what what if a teacher's salary increases um 500 dollars this year um what does that mean for their and they get their masters so their salary this year the increase to their base let's say is 500 then they would get an additional 250 dollars added onto their base for the rest of their time with us yes checking with my CFO math correct there I just wanted to clarify those things because it it can it can be a little confusing why are we doing that what what are the reasons thanks thank you thank you foreign just like to thank everyone for their hard work and effort and their tireless hours in making this um tentative agreement happen in record time so um just thank everyone and that's all I have to say that we've come to a tentative Collective bargain agreement I'd like to thank the Lea leadership and let's start teaching kids and start supporting families and let's get started here so thank everybody for this again Justin what record it's record time speaks volume of our dedication to our family so thank you so much yeah may I say that um I do recall um coming to meetings with negotiations um over a dozen years ago and those negotiations took a year or longer to to come to agreement and the agreement was this thick literally was this literally was this thick so I again Justin you and your team Carla you and your team Michael shreve's superintendent thank you for your hard work your understanding of our finances and willingness to do this I appreciate it so much no Mr President I just say thank you to the Lea as we're Partners in education uh this is part of the law and our Lea works very hard we know that and they understand the importance of having a sound collective bargaining agreement and so thank you Justin thank you this will close our public hearing oh this will call our meeting to order please stand with me for our Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you first order of business Mr Smith our Blue Ribbon update Mr President members aboard Dr Smith as we continue on site work on the west side of LC continues along with the phase 1C on the west side you'll see there a new entry and also the senior Cafe and the Westfall wall continue goes up uh phase again the West Wall um phase three site improvements has actually started on the ground just North they are stump grinding and silt fence going in and excavation which should start soon LC pool Foundation is going to be underway this month so you're going to see some digging and footings going in in October Ln uh the majority of that walk is asphalt right now so it continues on and again a safe place for students to walk uh to and from Elena McKenzie three-story continues on third floor working their way down Ln phase 1C that again the art and family consumer science area continues on and the new pool of course the inside is really going well painting and utilities still going in plumbing fixtures uh in the locker room and the ready room there uh as well as the digging of the pool so it has started this week new roof continues we're almost wrapping that up and that facility be fully enclosed per the roof Belzer and Fall Creek continue with HVAC controls and working around our students well questions or comments regarding our Blue Ribbon update uh just a quick question with the HVAC going on at the middle schools how are we handling the fact that there will be Renovations how will how how do they plan the HVAC for the future Renovations yeah we've been talking about that there'll be some modifications in some areas where we're going to move some walls and ceilings but the current system will accommodate those areas great the new uh area at Belzer Middle School of course we'll have its own separate unit as well Roger Michael just so the board as we get close on the finances for the middle school we should soon see some renderings and some possible design work for the middle school is that correct correct all right any other questions or comments regarding the Blue Ribbon update I have one um just for just to put on the record so that parents know um picking up Robert from Lawrence Central through door one how the um can you explain how like if a parent is picking up a child um what that process is for pickup because I had to pick up pick them up and it was a little different than what I was used to so I think maybe people hearing yes it is different we're still coming in on the rich art area you can park in that Southeast uh parking lot there is a little bit of a walk difference there due to the fact we have to have a 50-foot ball Zone from the new building going up which keeps us from driving all the way up so there is a little bit of a walk for uh any visitors that come in and out of door one so Roger wants to pull us down yeah that whole parking lot will change uh and also it'll increase in size and then also the round kind of the Circle Drive you'd be able to drive all the way up to Door one and drop off and pick up I will add to Security in the front was very helpful and letting me know how things move move forward so thank you for them for filling them in and them being knowledgeable as well too it was thank you any other questions or comments thank you Mr Smith our Management Service update Mr Smith Mr President members of War Dr Smith as we continue with our manage services as you well know um rjb has started with Ln Belzer middle school and Amy beverlyn and in those buildings all uh positions have been filled as we have resignations in our retirements we have holes in other schools we would like to help or use rjb to help fill those positions and as a custodial head position becomes open we would like to turn that building over to rjb as a whole and as if there's any MSD LT employees still in the building at that time they would be offered the same benefits that we offered all of our employees from Ln Belzer and Amy Beverly this opportunity is available to us at Crestview and Forest Glenn as both of those heads have retired and we do have some additional uh people who either resigned or retired from those two buildings and also to potential at LACC McKinsey as of October these buildings will move over to rjb per the board approval per the retirement or resignations of those heads the heads in these uh buildings have already retired I I just covered that all of our maintenance staff district-wide is with rjb they are still in the process of reconfiguring and hiring maintenance staff we just hired one electrician last week so again we would like to see that progress moving forward and they are also working together with us working very hard for this transition to be successful and raise the support level in our district questions or comments regarding our main Management Services I had a question Mr Smith the people who are resigning and retiring are you seeing that some of them are then coming back on board through rjb right now most of them are resigning and leaving or retiring for the most part especially with these four buildings we have some people that are simply saying I've put in my 40 years and I would like to retire so we have that we kind of expected that as we talked about the experience of our heads in our buildings so we thought maybe that would happen thank you what feedback have we had from the administrators at our trial schools and from the custodial staff at those trial schools from the buildings we've been hearing some positives uh we also had some concerns so as we have those concerns we're working with RJ vid real closely to make sure we work together as we move forward and also includes a conversation with the building so but overall it is going well are the concerns similar to the concerns they would have had before our Jeep rjb took over a lot of it is just management who does what and who do we communicate with so the work we've got a new work order system in place so we're working with all buildings because the maintenance part of that affects all buildings and then working real close with those who have rjb because so audio to make sure that they understand a business as usual how do we do that how do we work together moving forward any other questions or comments so to be clear once a head resigns or retired that building automatically is considered to be a rjb building we would like to move once the head okay I have a question well I don't know if it's kind of like a spin-off of yours if there is a concern or a compliment on the schools that are being handed over to rjb fully if there is a complaint or a compliment would that go directly to rjb with Lawrence Howard's the we still have Dr Nesbitt in the loop with our operations as well as myself so we're working real close any concerns bi-directional we're trying to be in the loop uh in both cases okay thank you so just one other point of clarification then for me is I understand what happens if the head custodian resigns or retires and then that building will become fully rjb but is it is it true also these buildings that aren't fully rjb if there's just a custodian but not the head custodian that resigns or retires then we're going to look to rjb to fill that position yes and then okay that's what I understood so then how will RJ be and then the head custodian in the building all work together what's the flow of command on that the beauty of that is the the manager of rjb custodio was one of our heads prior to so that person knowing the process that we had prior to is able to work rjb staff and msdlc staff together and they will help with that head working with rjb any other questions regarding our Management Services thank you Mr Smith application for our common school on Mrs Freeze Mr President Dr Smith members of the board this is a request we bring to you twice a year and usually this when the state puts out their application for the common school loan it doesn't hit with our board meeting days to be able to do it in a timely fashion so we get permission ahead of time to do to apply for it it's worth about one just under 1.6 million dollars and what we plan to use this one for is like last year we used it to purchase half of our one-to-one devices on the refresh for the students we do it in the fall so we know we have those devices in plenty of time for next school year rather than waiting for the May common School alone then the other half would be to refresh some of the interactive panels in the in the rooms the teachers rooms they are the ones we currently have are reaching their end of life and some are past end of life so this would help us do that do that process as well questions or comments on our application for a common school loan thank you Mr Freeze additional Appropriations update Street yes unfortunately we need to come to get some additional appropriation in our debt service fund the reason for this is last year when we did the budget and dlgf finalized the budget our common school loan for last year wasn't closed at that time but it closed before the end of December so we have payments due this year that we have to have the permission to pay for it won't raise taxes it won't raise any additional funds we have coming in it just gives us the permission to pay for those and that's in the amount of 128 593 you'll give me permission later tonight to advertise for a hearing which we'll have at the end of November at which time you'll have a hearing and then subsequent vote that evening so then we can get that sent off to dlgf the Department of local government Finance for approval for this year's expenditures so on this item accessories kind of talk to me like a non-finance kind of guy d-l-g-d-i-i you got to help me understand what I'm trying to do here all right sorry Department of local government Finance or the is the government entity that controls and approves our budget so when the like later on we're going to adopt the budget it will get for next year it'll get sent to them they'll do all their behind the scenes work and come to us in December or January and say Here's your budget for next year the appropriation they give us is their permission to spend that much money if we need to spend more than what they give us permission to then we have to do the additional appropriation to get the additional permission to spend those dollars thank you for being our CFO myself but we already own those yes we already have those dollars correct right because we knew this was coming right yeah so we already have those dollars to spend well actually they're out of the cash balance in our debt service fund which is another reason why you want some cash balance in your funds so that when things like this happen you can spend the dollars that are already there thank you Mr shree's in layman's term these are the bosses here and statutorily they have the power to do it but there's a check in order to make that happen and that's what they're doing today you have the power to do it board but you do the dogf is just that check agency to make sure that we're doing it the correct way in layman's term thank you any other questions or comments Layman's turn questions any other questions or comments this is good for us thank you Mr shreves application and enrollment windows for 2022 2023 2023 2024 school years assistant superintendents good evening Mr President Dr Smith members of the board each year we bring to you the application and enrollment window about this time last year we brought to you the window for our current school year which continues to be you'll get to know some of the foundation board members and some of the your fellow community members and um you'll be a little tired at the end of the day and you'll be very happy you did something for our community and the I I will also say the um some of the members of our foundation board may or may not make another appearance at our celebrity reader event and um if we do I think it's worth seeing just saying what would you say yes anything else Wendy thank you Lawrence Parks and Recreation fall leagues are continuing on at the parks the main two events coming up are the dia de la Lawrence this Saturday from 11 to 3 at the Fort Bend cultural campus our district is very involved with that and also the renovations have been completed at the community park building for the E let's see the kitchen and the big area it's available now to the public for rental it's beautiful that's one of our main sporting Parks so those are the main updates that I have in the Parks oh and pickleball's going strong good dear thank you Miss Norman policy so Dr harshbarger apparently thinking on a Monday morning I was going to be kind of depressed and down wondering what in the world am I that we're going to get right to work on them so thank you because I wasn't sure how I was gonna fill my plate so we'll be back to the entire board with uh some more policy updates for you later this all right Mr miles on continuing that and it's I know it's a collective team effort so enjoy your retirement and don't be a stranger but um I also wanted to say it was also very good timing that I was volunteering with first through third graders last week before we voted on raises it really yes it really yes yes it is a gift to work with the children and everybody too because it was gardening club and they dumped dirt everywhere and our custodians were on it but yes so thank you again to all of our staff on that and then finally community so we I was at the North Shadeland Alliance Fall Festival on Saturday and our district was so well represented we had the McKinsey kids there with their robots we had several athletes there volunteering with the kids Lawrence The Swim Team it was just it was such a great representation so just makes me proud of how interconnected we are with the community awesome I will just take Liberty if I might because thanking Mr shreves for his service which I certainly share in but I want you to know Michael that um your ears should have been burning Saturday night because um my wife and I were out to dinner with the helmuses and former former board member Carol helmus and I were reminiscing of that your service over the years and she sends her regards and uh how highly she uh appreciated your service also so thank you Ms Norman to Mr shreves I Echo what has already been said this evening you will be greatly missed but I would also like to congratulate Dr Smith and the leadership of this organization for always having a plan in motion when we know people are going to be leaving or retiring and for having someone as wonderful as Matt to to fill in and the feeling of comp the level of comfort we have in that is is great so thank you Dr Smith to you and your staff for always having Plan B ready for us I agree you're here yeah I second everything everyone has said and Mr shreves thank you so much your knowledge is immense you are so knowledgeable but the one thing that stands out the most about you to me is your love for your family you have a love that stands out and actually showed me a greater amount of balance that you can do well in your field but you can also love well like you like going home I've spoken to people that don't always like going home so not in here not in here you guys but I just want to just say thank you for just just thank you for loving well and thank you for your knowledge so well said Thank you for eign thank you for those comments Wendy in terms of Dr Smith and the team having a backup plan well said what about let's see eight years ago you know eight years ago I had the opportunity to attend a board meeting as a candidate for the school board learned a lot glad somebody invited me to do that in fact we encourage that so you can just have some idea what it means to serve in this capacity so tonight we are honored to have a candidate Miss Patty brennaman uh just as a reminder we don't campaign on school grounds we don't talk about anything on school ground but we do recognize and thank you for being here with us tonight so thank you for that this past week we had the first robot just want to give a shout out to Mackenzie Ln NLC we had the first robotics team out at our Rolls Royce stem day and those students were absolutely remarkable in their enthusiasm inspiration and just working with the fourth graders from Wayne Township but they was working with fourth graders and we just thanked them I just want to go on record that I thank them for being more than just a robotic scene but being ambassadors for education and stem education so I thank them for that great Friday night Dr Nashville for Lawrence Township uh wonderful just a shout out to recognizing some outstanding alumni of Lawrence Township uh both from Ln and LC I don't think I don't think we should take that for granted because it because it is the product that we produce it state thank you for your leadership in that as well we do recognize that effort so thank you Dr Smith Mr President I'm going to keep it short just to remind the board that you'll be called to duty next week as uh the collective bargaining agreement requires a 72-hour period until we approve it so we're going to be back here for a special board meeting on Monday October the 10th at 5 30. so just is there anything preventing us from doing two two of these like I mean the keynote would that fit in with that dovetail with with what you're doing and then because we plan a separate event yeah we can do both yeah I also like the idea that you suggested of Hosting something at um Osborne Street you know to to sort of show folks this new facility and invite the community in yeah absolutely do other board members have thoughts on that yeah okay I like the idea of I'm not in it all depends on you know what the group decide I'm not in favor of a keynote speaker okay I think you're going to bring Mr Dean there to introduce him to the community uh we're going to have board members there to say you know you know my name is Mary Jo and you know I'm I'm I live in this war I've been on the board introduced you know you have your superintendent to say a few words I don't want to get into this long you know my my attention span is about an hour hour and 15 minutes absolutely and then when you bring in a speaker you know you most of the time you can't tell them how long to speak right but you know when I have them at my church I tell them how long to speak you know I'm not you know when I'm working on a program that's sort of way I operate that's how the group is if that's the group the way the groups want to go it's okay I just see it being a little bit too much if you you're going to have a meet and greet with the board you have your superintendent who is our leader to say a few words greeting people and then you introduce uh Mr Dean uh to the community as as the new director of the Career Academy or maybe Carousel Fair words whichever way you want to break it down yeah when I said keynote I you know I kind of think of like that space less than an hour where we could do those activities that you're talking about not have somebody rattle on okay thank you yeah no it was really more of an informational how do we you know inform the community about exactly what this Pathways Academy is well you were you were envisioning Dean as the keynote yeah yeah yeah talking about the background if the committee is interested in the fifth I just want everyone to be aware I will be coming back from DC that morning um and and unlikely that I will be back in time for the meeting on the National Blue Ribbon ceremonies are Thursday and Friday and I'll be checking out um on Saturday morning so I just just want to give the maybe a heads up on that just just that one word um I was thinking this was going to be an evening event because that's like a big block in the middle of the day for parents right that are working like I just when you were speaking of it I kept thinking it was going to be it in the evening I think this is a Saturday Michelle right so the fifth is a Saturday Family University is a Saturday yeah oh okay sorry I didn't have the calendar in front of me okay but I don't want to lose some women I don't want to lose the momentum of a possible second um you know introduction effort uh you know to to dovetail with the you know opening up that space um at Osborne Street I think there's a there's a benefit to you as many exposures as we can give uh Brent in our community I think that that's going to help him help inform the way that he approaches the work he's doing here and also give folks a lot of opportunity to understand what we're trying to do because this is a big project that we're trying to push forward and I think it's really important that the community be engaged in it right so if we were to do that I I do like that idea uh Dr Mead I don't wanna diminish that in any way I think it's a great idea um which one the evening or the Saturday both of them this Saturday I like the idea of the the Saturday uh parent University um so I I if if that's okay I I would love to see him you know be a part of that in whatever small way you feel is appropriate um and then you know in terms of another event I agree with Michelle um doing this during the day is going to be very tough for parents to get there but you know to Mrs Cooper's point I think we also have to consider whether or not we could provide some sort of um a child supervision students supervision during that yeah after say 5 30 we can bring in to be able to provide Supervision in the gym or in the playground if the weather's still nice um so the families can really kind of key in in having that conversation and building that relationship with Brent and with our board okay Mr Russo did you have something oh no I'm good sorry um I guess with that in mind is there a date in October that we could look at or do you guys want to take a look at your calendars and then come back to us with with some possibilities I'm going to look at my calendar yeah because we're looking at you said October and November 5th was November 5th on our calendar is that just being brought up today that's it's been honest because we've started to to do some of the planning um for it it's going to be small this year compared to other years because of the time um but more details will be coming out uh later next week on that when you're saying our our calendar you mean all of our calendar the board or you know yeah um no we know the date I'm working with our alumni from parent C and from our pep that's part of the work that an alumni group does it's a group of parents to actually help form this and put the um event together and so we're meeting this week to do some final planning and then um we'll have more details about it we're meeting Wednesday night okay so then we'll have more confirmation as to whether you're looking at that date or another no that date we're good with that date yeah okay yeah all right I think very close to six o'clock in an interest of uh being able to let some folks who need to get over to the Citywide PTO meeting uh have the time to do that um I guess I just want to thank you all for for coming this evening and I think we're going to continue this conversation perhaps via email um to figure out what is going to work best and hopefully we can find a mutually agreeable date and I hope we can count on board members certainly on this committee to participate in that event um with and we'll certainly reach out to the the larger board and invite them as well any closing thoughts before we go all right um I will look for a motion to adjourn please thank you Mr Russo can I get a second please second thank you Michelle Mrs Cooper did you get all that yeah all right

perfect thank you okay fantastic so um I'm just gonna welcome everybody today thank you for joining us and I'm going to turn it right over to Dr selig because we've got quite a few things on the agenda tonight so I want to make sure we have time for questions and um you know to really spend some time on what we have going on tonight so I turn the meeting over to you thank you Miss Louisa so we have five items on the agenda tonight uh I will share it really quick so you can all see actually everyone probably has the agenda right do you need me to share it yeah let's talk through yeah okay I think we all have it so okay so we're just going to start with a little over a year of the year ahead and uh some of the things that we're hoping to touch upon with this committee um and then I'm going to hand off to my colleague Rich jobbert who's going to talk about some of the things that were completed uh in the last uh six months really sort of since the summer um not even six months last few months um and then some of the fall projects that we have planned um over well up until the holidays we have some things planned during the shutdown um and thereafter uh then we'll be doing some uh quick updates on the Danbury Career Academy I'll be talking about those uh there's some updates I'll provide about an HVAC grant that is coming up through the state of Connecticut that we are very hopeful um and Rich will help me talk through some of the ideas that we have for that one um and then uh lastly uh we'll be talking about some of the ongoing issues um that we have at the high school but also uh you know ongoing repairs um John we'll be talking a little bit about that Daniel uh jump into um so the year ahead we wanted to sort of take the opportunity to to uh you know not just use the um the subcommittee just as a sort of uh you know opportunity to just kind of talk about things that are broken but really talk about opportunities ahead and that's why we want to really think about things like the grants that are coming in and you know use this group to think creatively about ways to spend that money um but also with the Career Academy now entering phase one of construction we also wanted to think about things like future proofing um you know there were a few things that came up with respect to technology where you know it's just very easy to say okay we'll just use the regular basic you know um internet cabling and then you know we sort of had a second thought about well maybe you know we should be thinking a bit broader if it's a Career Academy maybe the next phases are going to be things like big data and I.T and maybe we should think about future proofing it so we want to use this group to talk about those things and and you know get a better sense of you know what we want to plan for a school it's you know it's not a school for five years it's hopefully a plus school for 75 years or 100 years and and we want to make sure we're cognizant of that that when we're making these initial decisions because the building will will uh I I expect outlive all of us so um that's kind of the way we're thinking about this for the year ahead and uh we're excited that everybody will be here to help talk about those things so um all right let's jump into the summer projects uh Mr jalbert are you there see you I'll share my screen welcome welcome um I'll share my screen and you can just give me the signal when you want me to click through share screen here we go oh great good good evening everyone um if we could go to the next slide uh uh it's a busy summer uh starting off with uh moving out of the Danbury Primary Center in brookfields uh we relocated all the furniture to the uh the home schools of Ellsworth South Street and stadley rough um we had done some initial sidewalk at hazetown last year and we ended up doing most of the sidewalks there'll be a picture on another slide to show you a before and after uh uh we replace flooring and there's there's a before and after of the haystown sidewalks they really needed it uh it looks sharp yeah we were able to uh use money from the Alliance Construction Grant to to do that work nice job thank you um we replace flooring in 10 classrooms at Pembroke school with uh with new vinyl tile uh the 10 classrooms we picked were all had all old carpeting in there and um really makes a huge difference it's a no it's a no wax finish so uh we don't have to worry about stripping and waxing the floor just maintaining it and cleaning it uh a lot less accidents with uh with custodian dripping and waxing them not having to strip and wax the floor and will give us more time to do other detail cleaning and painting we replaced flooring in four classrooms at South Street school with the same new vinyl tile uh if the flooring we put in at Pembroke we had a nice neutral gray look the South Street School it actually even though it's vinyl tile it looked like uh like a wood floor finish really sharp um we created the enclosed special ed classroom at King Street primary um and we reorganized and painted office space at 63 uh Beaver Brook Road we needed to make space for some additional staff members so we created more Office Space the next slide please where's those again another thing that we were we needed to do was convert the auto shop to the uh at DHS to a band room we had some help from public works on that because we had the auto list that needed to be removed those I believe were repurposed to the public works uh area and uh and it still a little bit of work to do uh on it you know the flooring isn't ideal we could use some sound absorption on there but uh we were able to get it done this summer uh we relocated registration and early learning into the Ellsworth Annex um they had been temporarily moved to 17 Cottage Street while the Ellsworth Annex project was underway we also relocated human resources and I.T from 63 Beaver Brook Road to 43 Beaver Brook Road um we've sort of run it run into a issue in the basement of uh 63 Beaver Brook Road that we're currently dealing with with uh water issues um we've been coordinating the replacement of the DHS gym floor uh which is an insurance claim due to a sprinkler pipe break back in Martin Luther King day uh there's a picture on the next page I believe it's going to look really nice um and uh definitely we'll we'll make a big Improvement um also we've replaced 11 Stadium lights at Danbury High School stadium um we're looking into into more long-term uh solutions for the stadium ice because it seems like we're replacing 11 to 20 lights every year um we're gonna bring out a manufacturer to look at the pricing of uh LED lights and uh and see what that would cost to do next slide please there's a few pictures of the uh Danbury High Gym uh without the Finish we went with the water-based finish it it gives like a nice lighter colored finish than the oil base will really brighten up the place and it gave enough gave us an opportunity to we're putting some new uh logos down on the floor you know the Danbury Hatters so that's that should be ready uh probably around mid-october if not October 15th a few days after that yeah Rich I actually talked to chip today he said he was talking to the guys and uh and they said the week of the seventh so we're we're hopeful they might even come in a couple days early so um maybe you heard something different but chip chip seemed optimistic so oh that's great we'll hope for that yeah uh next slide please uh this this was some of the uh in addition to the projects that we did some of the other stuff that we do on a annual basis deep cleaning of classrooms uh refurbishing refinishing of gym gymnasium floors um a few years back I've had a company come out and do a training session with all the custodians that that have wood floors which are Park Avenue School Haze town Broadview middle school and Danbury High School so we're able to do that in-house as opposed to there's a lot of other school districts that contract that work out and we save money doing that in addition I I feel it gives our custodians a sense of Pride because they can look at a nice clean gym floor and say that they did it um Android systems maintenance Mechanicals indoor air quality uh we relocated our share of teachers to to different schools throughout the uh throughout the district um assisting onboarding of new administrators phones Furniture Etc um we've done our share of I'll say Logistics this year and it started with the pandemic of shipping test kits uh n95 masks um you know so we've done our share of moving stuff out and about and with all the moving we've done over the summer we've we've tried to do our best at uh reusing good Furniture uh so it's not just sitting in the warehouse but we're putting it to good use um transporting centrally received deliveries to schools um the CRC building gets a lot of curriculum related material and they don't have a good enough size Warehouse to to store all the stuff that they bring so we've worked hand in hand with CRC uh to accept their deliveries they come sorted out and then either they'll deliver it or we'll deliver it for them and uh another forward school year planning activities as directed by building principles uh we work hand in hand with principals just thinking down the road um as far as their needs um there's there's a few things on the list that we have that we didn't weren't able to budget for this summer so I'm hoping to budget it for next summer uh Morris Street is looking to to put up some walls in their Media Center uh South Street had asked to open up a room and and put some new walls in so we're we're looking at that um and putting it you know towards our our budget items for next year I'll say um next slide please yeah before we go on I I just want to say you know there was there was a point this summer when there was so much happening in facilities between trying to get the downstairs of the Beaver Brook Center uh sorted out and just having the repairs done but while also you know having two major offices you know our I.T office um and then payroll um and then you know we had some of the the data folks down there you know we had a lot of people that were really critical to getting you know the school started and and making sure everything was was up and running um and and Rich's guys were just incredible at just helping them get settled you know we were using the the boardroom there for a little while as sort of a huddle space kind of a flex workspace and um you know richest guys are running around just moving desks and file cabinets and helping people get situated and making sure the printers were in the right place even temporarily and then of course when they moved down the street to 43 um he was it was just incredible how how much they were able to do um in the in the limited amount of time they had while also doing all this other summer stuff getting the floors waxed you know um you know replacing those floors at Brooklyn hey haste town getting the phones up and running for the new hires um you know it was it was incredibly busy summer so so Ridge my hats off to you and your guys you were you were absolutely fantastic so big big summer big summer load workload thank you Mike okay the year ahead what's coming up yep we have uh we're actually meeting uh a Restoration company this Friday uh to do the remediation of uh the basement is 63 Beaver Brook Road um and prior to this we we've also done some work uh we brought in Connecticut Basement Systems we put in a patented flooring system that they have that's a non-organic um it cannot grow mold on it uh we we also installed a sub pump and did some water diversion because uh what was happening was uh every time we would get a heavy rain which seems more and more nowadays uh the water would flow into the basement uh so we've we've had a few opportunities to test it and it's and it's working great keeping the floors dry so now we can work on the uh the remediation part of it um we're scheduled over the holiday shutdown to install uh double doors at King Street primary Media Center to create a safe Zone just to add to our security plan um we were doing the repair of the DHS weight room ceiling over the next month or two that also received some water damage from the sprinkler pipe break a special ed classroom overhaul at DHS right now this actually is special ed offices and it's it's one big open area which isn't conducive to private conversations so we're gonna enclose uh some areas to make a few private offices out of that we're also looking at uh we're currently working with a company to uh to get a design and a price for investigators at Great playing School in haystown school uh to chip away at those schools that don't have uh don't have divided uh vestibules um also Morris Street Media Center partition wall I I spoke about earlier we're looking to see if we can get that done in this year's budget as well is that it that's it I think that's it Thank you Rich um again tremendous tremendous stuff over the summer and again a busy fall we have all lined up here with some of these projects and um and John also on the call here he helped us get very creative with some of our budgeting so that we were able to to squeeze more projects out of out of a limited number of dollars so um you know between John and Rich we were we were able to make some real strides so um thank you thank you to both both of you all right so that's uh the year in review um like we just wanted to stop and just see if anybody on the um on the committee had any questions for what we've talked about so far just a quick question the the vinyl Goods that you're putting down is it sheet or is it tile um it's actually called luxury vinyl tile uh so it's it's yeah it's it's not a rollout product it's it's uh sort of a plank size uh um you can also they sell it at Home Depot and uh Lowe's as well um and it it's I will say it's one step above a typical VCT product yeah yeah that's great and the poly the water is great that's a better product wonderful and I don't know how many people are on your team but I know that what you've just outlined takes uh a lot of individuals to coordinate so I'm not sure how many are on your team but it's very impressive do with the supply chain issues and the expenses you know 30 increases everywhere so I just want to say thank you great job thank you Michelle and uh Julie you have a question foreign thank you hey nobody has any other questions or comments before we move on oh good Rachel these maintenance items come out of what budget is this the building rental no no this is all out of uh my facilities budget um okay we have taken money actually the the light replacement for the stadium lights we are taking out of the rental fund um but most of it was out of my budget and some out of the Alliance Construction Grant as well right yes yes all right I think all of these projects that Richard might just walk this through uh with the projects that we had talked through last year because I kind of remember a lot of these projects um that rich was just speaking to uh projects that we were focused on for this school year and some of them a lot of them of course we had to work on over the summer um our our issue worry concern is not that we just have one or two and so for Morris Street Elementary School as an example we learned that not that this was actually new information but the principal was trying to continue as she's trying to like most of our schools across the district she's fighting for space in her respective building and so in her Library she's created a Zone separate from the library media space trying to create instructional spaces and so when Rich is talking about putting up walls those are some projects that we did not have budgeted and they're trying to find out if we can squeeze those projects in this year so we're gonna have to wait an entire year but if those of you if you visited Morris elementary school you go to the library it is an ESL class classroom of and you know kind of temporary walls up there and it's really not an ideal space for instruction or a library media space so those are some of the things that we're dealing with and working with now yeah we got a lot of those blue kind of folding partitions um I think she's got two different spaces she's using them so when I saw that and it was loud I mean there were kids in the library and she was trying to do the class it was I mean it would have been hard for for anyone to concentrate in there so um we're gonna really try to prioritize that as one of our our projects if we can find the cash in the work that Beaver Brook is not um Kevin redoing his office it's it's the the issues with the water in the basement yeah and so there's a rumor out there believe it or not and um and where um in the line uh is South Street school for a vestibule that's been a hot kind of discussion for a long time yeah Rich that was so we originally started talking about three schools right it was haystown South Street and Great Plain and I think South Street has some unique challenges that we're making it a much more expensive project if I if I recall um the space just isn't quite there I don't know can you speak to that a little bit rich sure actually we looked at South Street about five years ago with a contractor and and the thought was to change the main entrance so it comes in through the main office uh because right now the the entrance when somebody comes in they can dash off to the cafeteria or they could go down the hallway so we were looking at trying to avoid that with the vegetable and um it was going to be fairly expensive I want to say 75 to 100 000 there was some site work outside we're going to take a second look at that and see if there's any other options that make more sense no thank you anybody else yes quick question um I know that you mentioned that um you have been relocated in individuals and pointing to uh this will be permanently location are you done with little kid and all this with uh human resources and uh I.T I I believe the long-range plan is to uh they're going to have office space at their Career Academy or or I should say the um the district office which would be uh on the same property as a Career Academy so we we've signed the the relocation Julie we've signed a one-year contract but quite frankly not optimistic that we're going to be able to get hrit back in 63 Beaver Brook um this possibility but we don't know that's why we signed a one-year contract so what rich is alluding to is our offices are supposed to be in the new building when it opens um and you know worst case scenario HR and it would remain in that building until the new space opens up but right now on the lower level of district office we need that space remediated because it was really deemed unsafe to be populated by our staff and so the water the water concerns we're creating mold issues on the lower level of the building um and so it just was not safe for those spaces to be occupied and so which Jabra was talking about was you know we had kind of multi as as a multi-layered approach we had the basement the basement folks come in and address one issue and so any water that was coming into the building on that side of the building it was rerouted to be pushed toward the creek right so that was one way of addressing it but there were still some other issues that have yet to be resolved um the rich probably speaks a little bit more detail and so and until we have all of those things remediated and you know we're working with the city to kind of get these things done um we had to find another space for our folks to work um all of those people who were downstairs I.T our data folks were critical to open up schools and we really couldn't wait any longer okay perfect thank you thank you okay um so just moving on uh the next two will be really quick um because we just don't have a whole lot of information uh Danbury Career Academy as you guys all know in our board meeting two and a half weeks ago um we gave Antonio the go-ahead to um on the signed off on phase one of the construction which was largely demolition I've received no further updates on that project at this time I don't know if you guys have heard anything through the grapevine but as far as I know we are still waiting on um final word from the city to to press go on the project but it's it's ready to go and as soon as Antonio gets the keys he's he's gonna start so um again I don't know if everybody has anything else they can they can share on that front uh moving on um number four uh the Connecticut HVAC Grant uh this just came out uh we learned about it about two weeks ago um we we what we know so far is there's really just been a couple webinars about it um there's gonna be money available for us to do some HVAC improvements uh we don't know exactly how much we're going to get but we know that our reimbursement is going to be roughly the same um as are other grants which is about 75 so we'll have to front about 25 percent of the project but um the rest will be getting in reimbursement um we have a few different ideas about what we want to do with that um rich and I talked a little bit about um adding air conditioning and some of the buildings um and uh some of the other things were about air purification systems uh but we're really just in the early phases sort of ideation uh phases of this project so far we're setting up a meeting with Antonio and his guys to talk through what they think is basically doable how much it's going to cost and then getting some folks in to give us estimates so we can go ahead with the applications applications are due up to the state December 1st so we've got about seven eight weeks here to to put it all together so we'll hopefully have some more updates um in a full board um sometime in early November foreign on that Grant no uh one question how many schools does that cover is it are we focusing on certain ones what's the reimbursement you know obviously it's going to be a big overhaul on on existing construction so how does that kind of way out yeah I don't know how much we're eligible for yet we haven't gotten that specific level and we only know that the reimbursement is 75 because they said it's going to be consistent with the other state grants we've gotten and that's generally what our reimbursement rate is um yeah Rich I don't know if you've heard anything else about about our total amount but you know we were sort of ballparking you know one Elementary School air conditioning systems about a million bucks so you know we'll do our best so we would focus on one I'm sorry uh yeah I just don't know how much we're going to be eligible for so I mean if we can get five million bucks we'll we'll go you know we'll go like gangbusters I just we don't know what the number's gonna be so okay thank you this initial uh round of Grants uh due December 1st uh they've allocated 150 million dollars total but that's for the whole state of Connecticut um which I don't think is going to go that far that's why I think we're looking at maybe doing a few of the smaller schools um but but I think we want to you know uh be prepared for for another round of Grants if we don't get anything this round um so we can take advantage of this yeah it is competitive too so they might not even pick us so all right um number five so ongoing um issues updates John did you want to jump in and talk a little bit about the gas line issue at uh DHS and um Dan is here too so there are two things um that we're uh gonna give close attention to there are no no plans yet to do anything but they're they're on our radar so we wanted to talk to you about them and the first one goes back if you remember to the beginning of school uh and uh at at the high school you know we had a couple occasions where we smelled gas uh we had to shut things down we had an early dismissal one day we had a couple days where we had to serve um cold uh breakfasts and lunches because we didn't have the gas and so on when the city put us back together they didn't put everything back together they had to shut off the gas uh to the chemistry Labs among other places um and that left us in a little bit of a jam Dan explained it in an email he could go into it more but um it forced us in order to uh continue to deliver the curriculum to uh purchasing uh some portable lab burners and some replacement canisters uh but at a pretty good price um after the the city said to us um well we understand the problem but we're not going to do anything about it until next summer uh when we're upgrading science labs anyway we'll get around to it then and that's just um we're not finding that acceptable um this isn't like saying uh we'll we'll wait to do your sidewalks or something like that this is involves teaching chemistry at the high school and it's it's not something we really want to go a whole year in a a less than an optimal state so um we talked and we realized that when the city does the work they'll they'll certainly contract out to do it it involves either using the gas company or or a licensed plumber to do it but some type of contract work and so we thought we'd take a look ourselves at what that might entail with a contractor get some estimates and then um if it looks um like the right thing to do and and we have the timing go back to the city and ask them to finance it with an additional appropriation into our budget because they're not saying they're not going to do it they're just really saying they don't have time now and we think they should they should so that's going on again no decisions of the reach but we're gonna we're gonna look at it carefully because we're just not satisfied with the answer we got and then the second thing maybe we'll take in questions after uh that one is um has to do with bus parking at the high school particularly in the afternoon um you know as we've added uh students there we've also added buses but we haven't added more more real estate and um it's it's if some of you have been there in the afternoon or even the mornings you see it um it's we're really cramped in there uh we have uh some concerns about safety we have some concerns about efficiency and what we've done is we've had a consultant come in a company that is expert in what's called pedestrian safety engineering they were out I think it was last week both in the morning in the afternoon we haven't heard uh anything back from them we had some good discussions along with Dan and his staff there are no easy answers at all there's a lot of factors that go into opening and and closing and uh what we did find though was the Consultants were very interested in the lower parking lot by the gym uh that's uh that's a much bigger area when you look at it with no cars in it during the school day and they kicked around a lot of ideas there so it wouldn't surprise me if we get some suggestions back uh that maybe some redesign there would give some relief to the front of the school that would sounds like something we'd have to budget for for next year but we want you to know that that's something we're giving attention to Dan I don't know if you want to add anything into that to what I said that I I miss anything especially on the science curriculum on um well it's in speaking to the city it was a kind of a tough situation because the way projects are funded and done around here um you're looking at a five to six month project before they they get the monies they get it fixed so if you're talking say three months before it's fixed we're talking in January how much money do you want to spend coming out of and disruption do you want to the school because for them to fix this pipe they have to go through the cement wall so you know if you're talking this isn't done till February you might as well wait the other three four months and just do it when the science labs are being done because the science labs are being done this summer foreign so I don't know what it entails but when they were talking Sean Hanley and Antonio were talking to me about it they were talking about how they have to go through the um the chase which it's called it's like an inside chimney where all the pipes run they got to go in there take out that whole entire pipe reconnect all of the science ones to replace that I don't think it's an easy project and I think it's going to be rather expensive I know having no gas in there is not the best answer for this at all but I mean I don't know what the cost of that is do you have an idea of how much that would be uh not not yet uh but we also don't want to take a chance of a broken promise from the city uh and it not being done I I don't think the funding is in place even for the science lab upgrades um so it maybe this will be just uh covering our giving ourselves some insurance in case it it doesn't happen um I know we discussed these science labs in the spring because they are a part of the um the accreditation for the high school I believe that that was a part of that to upgrade the science labs if I'm not mistaken and I was under the impression that these were supposed to be done this year so um now it's being pushed off to next year and I'm and I'm wondering why um and now we have additional problems in those labs and so I I just I'm I'm concerned at where that leaves us another year out and or is that going to push off another year after that because I I know that we had discussed it with the city and I think Antonio was one on one of our meetings and he said that it was scheduled for this this year 2022.
