um but the other those other core classes um we we try to keep those very even in order to know um in the high school um I mean you know like certain classes like every student needs to have equal shell for a year so of course um I would have to say around I would say around 2021 okay so we're similar to what we are at the high end in the elementary school probably including different type of writing than it is yeah and then you know you know some classes like foreign [Music] eighth and 9th enrollment numbers dropped significantly concerns um year over year though we're losing between 50 and 20 kids consistently more on the upper towards the 20. last year we lost 20 kids um so I'm just wondering if there's anything we can be doing as a district to help sort of um understand why these kids are leaving other than you know I mean my son's interview tonight most of his friends had left um and I get they go to St John's reports too but I'm wondering if there was something we could do in the exit interviews with these families to better understand you know what what can we help what can we do to help hold our students here um you know we have this sixth grade hearing camp but like why not have more informative Obsession to go from hm yeah offer you know because I think sometimes when you know we'll meet with the students you know so I think that's something we can work on yeah I think that's great it's a great solution it could be two exit interviews with families then we could maybe hear from these families where you know where we're missing if there's something we can provide Sally I love the idea of doing the parent campaign tonight because I've said to so many people you know Middle School is kind of like the Snowman plan the fun of elementary school and the seriousness of high school and then you know these kids are just kind of morphing they're just and everything's awkward um and so you know it's hard to have a good Middle School experience because it's just hard to be a middle schooler um but the Middle School classes are so different than a high school classes and the the rigor and the just the opportunities that are at the high school I think that's a really I love that idea of doing a parent Camp eight to nine so they can see what's offered here right um and the kids can too and they can get excited about it and I think just because we're in the same school there's okay you know so actually it's great I appreciate that and I know the parents will really appreciate it too and I think like you know it's I really thought right now but you know eventually to do it even earlier than that matches before they start that Pokemon thank you I appreciate it thank you anyone else questions yes [Music] I'm just talking to chair with the Facebook post that he shared with me when you saw it but um yeah tonight Tuesday 6 30 again so um it'll probably be worth us looking for some things from that and seeing what was being discussed in terms of your enrollment deductions too there's things [Music] into those classrooms there I'm like actually knowing that he wasn't gonna be able to make it I actually wrote a long piece about what's going on in the schools and and talked about the tour that we had and then he actually videoed himself reading it and he sent it to the two formats and said hey which is that you pick which medium which I thought was really horrible just the school kind of weighs in a little bit so it's a good idea for us to do the double checking field in South Africa cmrtc oh Central Mass Regional planning positions and that was um all right John Maria first principles are more welcome thank you thank you um so we are just down one students since our September report so we're at 308 we do have two students coming um the week after next the first a kindergartner and the fifth grader um so we'll bump up a little bit there in terms of the trend of you know we obviously see a lot of building happening in town and the numbers have been increasing over time and so I personally would like to keep an eye on that in terms of class sizes and distribution of classrooms but we're cruising along it's exciting over there and we're happy to be all together we still have some we have some new staff we hired in the past month um and we just have a couple more subscribe it's a feeling like home yes yeah everybody is so welcoming in the community fantastic and um even though I was a lady with this crazy idea of you know drop off whatever everybody sort of put up with me for a minute and uh yeah things are going really well and then these students are engaged and having me back into the routine they have some structure that we didn't necessarily have before and you know structured with a little bit of love so that's it 42 degrees yep so um I see you have a full Festival which is great yeah yeah if you don't mess around we have a full Festival um the enrollment Trend at Bes is a concerned and I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon and we talked about this Megan and Julian and uh in our budget supplement meeting of last week um in particular as it applies to the district Improvement plan and the addition of additional Staffing in graduation I'm not sure whether Carol was there with usually reconnect with you on it but one of the points I made was through looking at these classes for grade memory you know we're at a point where we need to just commit to having maybe two teachers and then it becomes when that leads to smaller class sizes in terms and that leads to larger class sizes but I'm interested in exploring into Computing Improvement entomology thoughts on an additional support staff across the building based upon the size of those classes and what makes sense we'll need to advance based on where the larger classes are I think kindergarten is one that we've certainly in this group talked about several times in needing a need I talked to a friend of mine teachers in the Southwest District which is a kindergarten teacher so their school Community requires no more than the 10 to 1 ratio that you get a different classroom so there's no 16 person class in general future those who require a recession at that point and so that's intriguing to me as we think about moving forward and policies when it comes to things like class tests that have just come into the past when we started in the district keeping those class sizes below 20 was an important thing you heard from the community that continues to be the case so I think this is as I think about the district and the issues that they said over the next coming years this to me is how they think what do you what you get when you have classroom um sizes is today small but also you have consistency across grade levels in terms of three classrooms is you get the consistency of Educators coming together learning a curriculum and being able to push forward and get through the challenges that it brings and then work together as a team so when you move people around back and forth what you lose is that stamina in that grade level and their ability to deliver more intense more rigorous instruction because they have to step back relearn a curriculum and then push forward again so even those teachers who I know have gone from second to third grade and sort of just walked back and forth now they they're learning a whole new literacy curriculum and now that's going to be impactful if we move them again and so I do think that it's really important for classroom teachers to have stability as well as kids you know the other thing you have to realize is that 22 kids 22 kids those are two very much yeah definitely I agree with you don't worry I think the moving I taught three different grades and it was like after a while you're not you're learning along with them you know new things that you haven't learned in a long time um so I think the continuity would be good I think my mom comes second grade for 30 years all right thank you yeah I will let three go home with your families enjoy the night thank you for coming and thank you for presenting thank you um [Music] thank you um Item B I mean item six we're going to be um thank you so in the past a couple of years we've made sure that the school Community has had a chance to see the grants um so at least recently this is this is the F grants every student succeeds act unfair and these are the title grants they have one QA number four we get these annually I wanted to make sure that we had those approved tonight and also just to let you know I need to see the amount that we're getting here is millions of dollars or at least hundreds of thousands of dollars we try to stretch this money as much as possible I put down a new purpose and use basically what we're using that funding for um but it's it's not a lot of money we try to think about what we need from year ahead and adjust accordingly so those are the figures for those of those three grants also just wanted to give you an update on the parent teacher says so by the end of this week we should have all the element country students scheduled for the parents schedule for the elementary conferences on October 17th will open up a link to to honto parents for a new system platform we're trying this year called sign me up and it is a link that the secretary at the hospital will send out to parents and they will be able to select teachers that they want to see we have a team of this is the Middle School teachers but only in pairs so you will have like a bla social studies and a math science that will give us more slots opening up but we'll also have common theme cheetah teachers together and we'll also keep that team the Middle School teachers wanted to make sure they preserved so we're trying it um I would I would hope that parents bear with us this first year that we're doing this and we're hoping that it's effectively we've certainly sent out a survey after the conferences um to see how this function if people were able to see parents were able to get to the teachers and then we need to get to it keep in mind there's always the option to schedule a confidence to keep to teach individuals apart from this particular night I did want to point out too it is the same unique name and Dairy [Music] I know it's an early release day and we thought to do this because it would keep preventing us from getting more half days off soon so we're going to see if it works and if not we may have to have to look for next year that I'm optimistic that this will work well the times again um I I had an error on the first one they're actually 12 30 to 6 30 for the elementary schools but there's a half hour break that the teacher's discretion for that they can pay for me already hot dog has a 5 30 to 8 o'clock I'm sorry on the 12th to three for their terms so those are conferences um that information will come again to Toronto parents October of 2017 October 24th and then finally MCAS uh we will be doing the presentations for me and past results um there are some gifts but we're concerned about the school committee about what we're seeing and I just spoke to John before the meeting he's met with Peter Doherty available from your dad I went with Peter to the high school level and we're I think we all want to just share our perspective on what we're seeing and really to be honest about I also think that what I've heard from these folks is they would love to be able to educate the school committee on changes in every asset to really understand it better because I think in past years we've had a PowerPoint presentation and principles go through it and then it's over and it's short that there's really not an in-depth understanding and I think of what they need and how to read them and what it means for our district so we would like to be able to offer that up and before we do a presentation so we'll have to figure out how to do that perhaps with the school committee um so that was the MCAS um also I I added this last piece I was reading this on Friday a note from Amanda jobry who teaches banking class I took until and I thought this note just spoke to the fact that it had a lot of many need to send members particularly this individual Savings Bank was a community partner as well the parents came out that night we were very interested in this type of program that we're offering in Toronto and that I was talking to a parent through email thinking about extending this kind of financial literacy program into the elementary school and middle school in some fashion we have had it in the past it was very extensive in the elementary school um through a parent what happened at the time to work for a bank and brought it in terms we tried it it was a lot of time out of the classroom learning time I think we can tell her that I wanted to see if Queen Savings Bank with the Cleveland Department of us even at the elementary level they gave a few sections on 90 and built from there and other things in the Middle School so I am interested in doing that and I just was really excited that Amanda having to reach out to other languages too and thank the parents for coming to open house I have one question Carol but my husband's great by the way yeah it was so great it was so busy I've never seen so many characters teachers kept the numbers and from what I looked at I haven't had a chance to talk directly to them certainly much more than Middle School than the high school community but I thought the turnout was was really strong for Middle School to make parents were buzzing and visiting and chatting with teachers and a lot of movement and a lot of excitement yeah um so the question I have is when the school plans big events like this when you want the whole parent Community to come is there ever a conversation with the athletic department about Jesus's house this night looks for the athletes in school this will affect the parents meaning like you know the field talking team is away here and soccer teams away and Bloomberg and the community plan a different nights where they're available like those where there's home games or there's maybe you know maybe just the middle school games they tend to play earlier yeah yeah oh I know what it was this year the October 16 was the one that they originally had scheduled for the early release date when they did the what they had done before this house night or day and night so I think that was why we just stuck with that she couldn't do it for this year but it doesn't have to be on that date for the future so I'll mention that to someone yeah maybe just to have a conversation with um Kelly and the association yeah with the Athletics suggested she was out of six awaitings that's going to be pretty impactful [Music] before they closing time knowing that you're gonna have to come back to home for another vote once the Athletics become Competition schedule yeah I mean you could just take a long time [Music] no that's a good point let's try to connect with that in the spring when we're looking at right now do it on Friday because they have less pain I don't know what the schedule is there's still games yeah Carol I have a couple questions um she pointed out there's two numbers here I'm missing a couple zeros compared to other districts is that a function of the number of students in our directory or is it a function of affluence what is it that determines how much we get for these ranks yeah it depends if there's a formula that's used by the same federal government and I'm part of the technology disadvantage students in the district okay and actually it's titled program so it's very different purpose for those which inclusion members sort of the expectation of the government that is the expectation that in a less economic disadvantage District that we will have additional funding available to pay for it for these things not that the things aren't needed right I think it's more that they've been getting more funding to greater needs sure it depends switching things into that I don't think they do that just expecting it should give more money but we really want to be able to support those communities can you speak to what that is yeah that's that's what we should provide superintendent's advisory Council because the one that we were using had so many um parents and everybody actually felt that this was able to be alone but we are finding that we also have a capability through PowerSchool and exploring an option in the future it's awesome I I know that particular item because I'm interested in seeing us put in place a more robust School climate type of survey on an annual basis I'm thinking that probably going to cost more than what we're using now but I understand because there are a number of providers up there that conduct these School climate surveys and public school districts and provide that information up to us from teachers staff parents as to what their opinion is of for district of what's going on in it right now I think that's probably from my standpoint there's one of the most difficult things in the role in the school Community is not having that kind of 360 feedback from parents and teachers as to what's happening district-wide and so I think as we move forward finding funding and the tools a little more robust and also I don't think we need to make up our own questions and there are people who have created questions that they know to be scientific and tested and written until we do here and that's what we did for the parents the equity survey last year when we used Panorama questions and that was a good um [Music] we didn't want to run a student survey on that this year and actually Jeff and I were just talking about that this morning um about getting the group together again and putting that survey together for students would be helpful queries I'd like to see teachers but the teachers thank you I'm just going to make a note um I don't know if people knew this I didn't know this until my daughter took the class but so you take that class for Clinton savings thing you become a certified teller all right so she can work I think oh wow yeah and I mean I mean just think about the financial they don't understand how to write checks or anything like that maybe they won't ever have to who knows but they learn so many valuable real life skills to read that class we had this I walked into branch and must bless him and I lift it up and you know you see somebody you know but you're not in the same place too he said yeah yeah he was doing his internship it's party time getting paid there and Amanda was telling me that evening house that he went on to college while he's going through college said we want to hire the students we want them working for us absolutely especially in the Summers when everybody wants to go on vacation so what grade is the class High School anyone in 1912 yeah make sure you have a minute you'll probably have to be like right it's probably age one the branch mistake any other questions thank you Carolyn we already did this condo Middle School a Director of Finance Miss Kitty um [Music] all right so I will start with the budget timeline yep so the timeline has been reviewed at our budgets of company meetings twice actually so I'll briefly go over the timeline currently our administrators and principals are working on their preliminary budgets any above level service request is going to be reviewed by Administration and then it will be reviewed by the subcommittee on October 20th hopefully we'll have it ready by then the budget request will continue to be reviewed internally with Administration and the entire budget will then be reviewed by the subcommittee on December 8th and presented the school committee on December 13th in January with a date that is yet to be determined the budget will be presented to the respective couns of Florida select men and finance committees updates to the budget will continue up until the public hearing on February 28th and the final step will be a vote at the Town meetings for a date that is yet to be determined most likely it will be in May I kind of went with the same timeline that you guys have always used [Music] thank you then the up-to-date budget report high school year 23.
kid's an athlete he saw metal with the set play it's Luke cassic sending it towards the middle nobody's able to get a foot or a head on it now a shot on net and it just goes off the crossbar DeBarge with a great save wow he saw metal with their first big opportunity of the night almost able to bury it it's lucasic now on the outside she'll send it towards the middle looking towards Tallis and that'll just be tapped Out of Bounds he saw metal now with another opportunity for a corner kick it'll be lucasic setting up I like those I like those outside to inside plays you know the ball is getting the balls get in there it's all about finishing at this point yeah I mean uh you saw Meadows had a little bit of trouble inside shooting this year but I mean I'm sure they'll get their opportunities and eventually be able to bury one to this game she'll send it towards the middle nobody's home and I'm unsure who that was that tapped that out of bounds the barge [Music] no Belcher down holding it'll be sent up towards Midfield he saw him like a head on it going back and forth touchdown setting up outside oh good D now let's Metro with it looks like Lionel Messi out there yeah or like even Cristiano Ronaldo I'm not sure yeah who to compare him or or even Ibrahimovic yeah yeah I'll play FIFA I rip a lot of FIFA you know yeah that's all I know about soccer more of a 2K guy but let me tell you you don't want a 1v1 me and FIFA yeah it'll get ugly hey I'll play it FIFA dude there I ripped y'all mostly into Florio is able to scoop that up definitely play chill mostly but uh yeah I see I respect that like at least it's not Madden because you know Madden's all about running the tight end Corner that's all they do the whole game run the same play Madden's brutal I hate Madden Belchertown setting up to the outside sending it past Midfield to get deep in Nissan Meadow Zone it's Mourinho defending now Metro tries to step up that ball kicks out now it's lucasic lucasic carrying it up towards Midfield with speed she'll send it up towards tallest can't quite get it to her but a vound effort Belchertown controlling they'll look towards their Striker can't make it to him with classic now with it she makes two nice moves to get past her Defenders and now she'll look outside towards tallest tallest able to control and keep it in bounds Hollis makes a great move now she'll have a chance on the outside to cross to the middle spamming that Juke button if you know what I mean yeah yeah now it's sent to the middle and nobody is home so Belchertown is able to set back up and look for a breakout lucasic able to step up making a nice place she'll send it to the outside you saw him out of control now it's Mecha Mecha looking deep and can't quite get it there now it's Mourinho looking to defend on the other end Merino bodies are guy off ball and now it's Mecha weight room yeah just a lot of back and forth play some others had their opportunities though now tall is setting up above the Box almost able to get a shot off not quite though as you're saying just a lot of back and forth I mean a couple opportunities for you saw Meadow but I mean yeah I'm not seeing much obviously both teams are getting inside but can't can't seem to connect yeah no uh no clear contact on any shots besides that one hit the ringer yeah oh yeah we're showing far down but it is what it is all right now ski it's you know what it is what it is yeah you work with what you got it right here yeah One's Gonna Roll Out of Bounds it's sent the tallest tallest Taps it to the outside and that ball will roll all the way to the end line and Belchertown will be able to set up for a goal kick substitutions being made those will be the first of the game for Belchertown the barge will step aside living our Center back take the goal kick now it's lucasic stepping into the middle she takes a deep shot and it'll go wide right yeah let's be on the 18 shots are they're not easy to connect with you know obviously when I'm playing some uh some FIFA you know mess he's gonna connect uh T90 but you know at this level obviously those shots can't go in but it's not nearly as easy as using one of the best players in the world yeah um I believe it was Roman earlier in the season that caught about a 30 or 40 yard shot oh yeah that was crazy but uh yeah it's not so easy when uh when you don't have them Baba in FIFA oh yeah you see that's true obviously Tim Howard type goalies are in that in in FIFA but you know these guys are pretty good too obviously one committing to a college I'm gonna have to check up on which college that is later that's a pretty good one that ball is sent to the inside and now Easton metal with an opportunity to shoot it's meta now tapping it back out to lukasik lukasik setting up for a deep shot and it'll once again go wide right they just got to keep firing those shots deep or not yeah go big or go home we're just under 15 minutes remaining we still sit out of zero to zero game or uh no no as Mr Freeman likes to say and he gets mad at us for saying zero zero in soccer so scoreless I beg to disagree what do you mean by that you know I prefer uh nothing to nothing zero to zero zip to zip but you know not a big Mill guy no no that's that's not my that's not my flaw no I respect that yeah no I yeah definitely some disagreement here in the uh box Stevens now at the at Center back she looks up the field now it's Mecha going for it can't quite get a foot on it no Belchertown looking to make a play leukastic recovering touchdown on the outside a lead pass Metra gets ahead on it back to Metra heading back and forth it's like whack-a-mole but it's not hey foreign I like that Sim one real good yeah no I know you should be a writer yeah I am we sit at 12 40 here in the first half that Esau Meadow Stadium still sitting at a zero zero game so far just back and forth play a few opportunities nobody's able to capitalize but I mean we've noticed some Stars here I mean lucasic definitely able to move it through Midfield pretty quickly oh oh yeah it's quick um she's looking to hit a few bangers tonight she's taking a couple deep shots both went a little right but uh I'm sure one of them will connect eventually yeah absolutely a matter of time in a matter of consistency you missed 100 of this percent of the shots that you don't take uh you come up with that one no LeBron James did I don't know if it was LeBron James it was Wayne Gretzky wait a minute Michael Jordan I think it might have been my yeah Michael Scott maybe I don't know Leo Messi [Applause] looking at some serious control uh by this Belchertown offense had a good 30 second stretch there of pure control yeah absolutely now deflorio is setting up for the punt the Florida makes it towards Midfield gosh that just looked like a D1 level punt yeah I mean she could be a punter on an NFL team I bet oh oh yeah yeah I mean some of those definitely got a lot of good punters you know CJ closure coming out of here now uh Taylor to Florio except she's punting in soccer so yeah it's quite different actually Brady gotta on the Eastern metal football team a pretty good kicker can put it through the end zone pretty good hopefully CM go for sure we got a substitution coming in more no we'll step in for lukasik she'll catch a break for a few minutes on I don't know how to get it quick penalty there Belchertown looking to capitalize a boat through the middle and that is defended almost looks like a handball but it isn't good defense there by number 22 we're looking to get the rosters updated right now I believe we got it now so that ball is going to trickle out of bounds McGee unfortunately not on the scene for that one back to matcha tries to go to the open field to Tallis Tallis goes up field again on the outside we'll take it up the sideline and that will be out of bounds Belchertown throwing foreign good defense there by Belchertown um looking to create some offense here off those defensive plays and this ball goes to 14 on the outside a pass up nobody home keeper ball likely to see a boot here gosh these people these people could punt man they can punt some real good punters on these teams yeah now it's Roman with a swinging a mess yeah it's like baseball just like it strike one oh that ball cuts through into Florida barely able to get a hand on it a great save I'm not sure if that would have gone right or not but nevertheless look to me like it was going right but that's a that's a heck of a in the punt again just some great punts tonight 50 yards it's Metra stepping up and that ball will go all the way back so far it's just what oh guess what another pun let's see it oh I'm guessing 50 yard line oh man that's it close to about 40.
you could dress like your favorite duo or wear green tomorrow Wednesday October 12th it's celebrate your culture day sponsored by the class of 2025. you can celebrate your culture or wear pink or white to support breast cancer awareness for Thursday we have dressed like your favorite celebrity day sponsored by the class of 2024 you can dress like your favorite celebrity or wear a yellow or gold on Friday we have color for causes sponsored by the class of 2023 you can wear the color of your favorite ribbon cause or wear all black also on Friday we have an all School pep rally during sixth period and that concludes my student representative presentation thank you all for your time and attention I don't know if you'd have the answer to it but maybe we could find out I see the vaccine clinic which has been very successful before for both parents and kids so two things one does that this also include our students parents and would they be giving out flu shots also in addition to a vaccine so I wouldn't expect you to have the answer but um maybe somebody else does know intended I don't have the answer but I think uh Brenda might have the answer she oversees the nurses oh it's um it's okay um I do actually have some more information pulled up on that um so a covid and flu vaccine clinic will be held um and it's for interested staff members students and families um it's voluntary and free of charge and a detailed email will be sent out just the answer I was hoping for thank you I know my question is going to be directed to the superintendent regarding um the schools um you know involvement with uh projects that we that that we have um pending in addition to like the fundraisers that Marine just mentioned I'm noticing our social media is not really showcasing and highlighting the amazing work that we do and what the students are doing in our school um and I'm gonna you know I'm a little surprised that I'll say this but um you know Stephanie on her worst day was pretty much doing a better job marketing and showcasing what the school was doing um and keeping us informed than what's currently happening so are we able to kind of do a better job um to kind of make sure that we're promoting yeah I'm sure we can I'm going to put on a different part of the agenda though this is the student report at the moment it's a valid point you're making but uh okay because like for example the the fundraiser that class of 2023 had I didn't even have an idea I'm not saying you're mistaken oh no I'm just saying let's just we're gonna we'll put it on a different part of the agenda or a different agenda but right now we're going to do uh to fluid Marines report Maureen do you have any questions for us okay so we'll put that in the future items we'll discuss that and get an answer to it okay all right thank you very much oh yes I'm sorry uh Mr swell sir oh sorry what are the traditional um Hispanic games that you're going to have for um October 13th for Thursday I do have them I'm just trying to look for where they are description um I'm not too sure exactly what they are but I know that we did get um an email sent out um I think that it was sent out to families as well with more specific details anything else thank you very much thank you Maureen okay donations see none no articles no public participation and I can see uh administrative policy update we're going to have to vote on this according to my agenda but I believe we're going to have a presentation first from uh from Brenda if I'm not mistaken hi welcome am I starting up yes all right thank you um so everybody should have in your packet a copy of the admissions policy where you can see the um the strikethroughs things that we're removing from the policy and then immediately after that what's been added and I included a summary page I think that was one or maybe two pages just because there were a number of changes both to some of the language but also the admissions criteria so what I wanted to do is to start out by just reviewing those all of the changes that were made and then I can try to answer any questions that you have and I also just wanted to thank everyone for your patience and waiting for these updated changes it was really important for us to gather all of the information that we had especially through the Equitable access grant that we started to take part in last year that was a deci funded Grant to really look at Equitable access to CTE and we're continuing that work this year through a continuation grant called the fund 112.

thank you guys um next we have schools so um I I don't want to run through the whole list you guys want to um keep anything I know I like to offer a director Molina an opportunity to um I would like to yes got it I am I was just wondering and I know [Music] um I was just wondering and I have been thinking about um just the way we run as a board and seeing that when board members in Commerce City run they run at large and so I know that there are specific people for specific schools but my question and and could be something that we um you know we can table or um or not but I was thinking more along the lines of um not being necessarily attached to a certain school um so that if we did want to see a different school or I know that you know we can if we you know go through the the proper protocol but I'm just wondering um if an option would be for us not to be attached to a school specifically or what the reasoning behind that is I think the reasoning behind it is so if they do need to reach out to someone they have a face that they they know that they can reach out to you so it's not like a general email to all of us if they're they have a point of contact um if there is an emergency or something that they need to bring up I think and I think it'd be it's helpful because if we just pick certain schools sometimes certain schools will get more visits than others Maybe and it just kind of helps us be able to make sure all schools are involved so we're not missing schools out there I think that would that would be my reasoning behind it I mean I I don't mind the fact like if we don't have them and we can go to the schools that we're at um you know just to make sure that we're not missing every school or we're not missing certain schools I think I I think for me as we move um further down the line of becoming a policy governing board um for me it gives us an opportunity to have two dedicated board members without violating the Sunshine Law or anything like that but to be able to build those relationships with the students and and the administrators of the school and the teachers um because then my hope is as we adopt policy governance and and better policies as to how we report back to the group then it allows those two board members to inform the rest of the board about things that are happening on a closer level but I think we do need to set those parameters the expectations so maybe we could talk about that during their retreatism and it can possibly be you know every one or two years we rotate schools or something like that because I know that I've been attached to my schools you know since I got appointed and I mean I've been there but I would also like to see other schools and well and it never preclude you from doing that as board members you always have the opportunity to to go with any schools um I think it also allows those board members that are assigned to those schools to be able to know like I appreciate like when you copy me and say hey I'm gonna you know visit these schools on these days um because then it allows us to be in the know and have those conversations when we go into the schools as well yeah so do we want to talk about this then at our retreat um yeah I think the responsibilities but I think we should um since we're already a couple of months into a new school year I would like to have um the two board assignments we have five schools do you want to be the alternate on all five I'm just kidding well you know like I think we need to I would even be open to like switching schools right so that yeah she has an opportunity to be the primary board member to certain schools that so I'm wondering like do we do that now or should we just do that during the retreat I I think during the retreat if that's okay uh and there's legal counsel um are we okay tabling the assignments because we can even put a deadline let's do that foreign and just know that all of our schools are always welcome to reach out to the to our board members and like you said that would be something for us coming up next week if we just want to visit you know if there's certain ones that you want to visit let's just let us know you have a list of who's there and if there's someone not there if I mean think what we did last year I went to two elementary schools in the two middle schools the opposite nights so we were able to get all the schools to at least have one night of someone being there on the board so it's at least if parents are there and they can see us in the public either so and I think I went to like eight open houses at the beginning of the year this year already so yeah I think it's just it's helpful to um be available I know the feedback I got from parents was and students um they like questions about what's going on yeah yeah okay Ramona will work with us to get that covered for next week thank you and a president do you want to move to table with them yeah um for the school assignments anyway great um do we need a motion to do so yes okay may I have a motion to table um until our next board meeting so moved thank you second thank you uh Ramona roll call please Mr Amador aye Ms Estrada aye Ms Lovato aye Ms Molina hi thank you with no further business we've had a long night oh I'm sorry just the school board assignments to vote on what we proposed for the other assignments on the uh the Committees so the question is is with director Zubia gone do you want to take that boat right now very true maybe I think we can we have a motion to table the entire um agenda item that's a great point okay thank you for that question may I have a motion to table um 8.2 board member communication or 8.3 uh board member assignments for the 2022-23 school year all motions thank you um second second thank you Ramona roll call please Mr Amador aye Ms Estrada aye Ms Lovato aye Ms Molina hi all right um last item his adjournments may have a motion to adjourn a motion to adjourn second phone call please aye Ms Estrada hi Ms Lovato aye Ms Molina hi thank you thank you all for hanging in here tonight and we'll see you um in a couple of weeks have a great evening

we were not receiving any local Revenue because every breakfast and lunch served was free this slide shows the revenue from the previous slide and expenditure so with more meals served the expenditures go up again the revenue is is pretty remarkable and the fact that we were able to serve so many meals which is a perfect segue to the next slide which shows our number of meals served so you can see the breakfast and lunch in 22 that total is 5.3 million meals served last year which is pretty remarkable any questions on the Food Service AFR say again the number of meals that we served 5.3 million wow wow and this year I know we're not talking about 23 but just for a second have we seen more like 2019 again since the universal is no longer in place it's a little bit early to tell usually the participation is pretty low at the beginning of the school year we'll know more probably in about another month but right now we are trending a little bit lower than 2019 activity okay but still within um within a stone's throw I guess yeah it's pretty comparable so next up we'll have a we'll talk about school level reporting this was new in FY 2020.
so pretty pretty close to even for um the net amount for uh prior year an increase of 831 000 there's a lot of reasons for the differences I have to say fiscal 21 is probably not not normal for for most districts just um under the circumstances um in terms of the specifics if you want to drill down the next is the statement of revenues and it actually provides just a little bit more detail line by line item uh for those sources of revenue so if you really wanted to drill down and see you know what what were the local sources of them um in General Revenue was uh fairly stable there was a significant change in your federal revenues and a lot of that had to do with these grants that you've been getting over the last couple of years and the timing of that income really coincides with when the district spends the money so some of these grants were probably awarded in previous fiscal year or maybe even two years ago the fact that it is that the district is starting to spend those monies therefore those Grant reimbursements come in come in so there was at least a two million dollar swing in total federal revenues in the past year um and then as far as expenditures it for the most part in most funds the expenditures increased slightly in the Ed fund there was definitely a an increase from 21 in instruction and support services but again I think that's probably a function of resuming normal services and things like that and probably if we went back a couple years we at that and see oh yeah this is more like fiscal 20 or 19 or something like that so so um that was the starting on page 12 all the way to 22 I'm not really going to go through detail but I just want to explain what what you'll see on those pages are the budget to actual schedules and this is where you'd get drill down information for your expenditures and it's line item by line item um and and you're going to see the comparison between budget and actual so if you again want to kind of dig down and look a little bit for a little bit more of an explanation you can look at those pages following those budget to actual pages are the notes to the financial statements and so this is more of a narrative that would give you some information and it kind of explains some of the dollar amounts that you're reading in the financial state again a really useful source of information to just supplement what you're seeing in terms of the numbers most of this from year to year and usually what when I you know go to a board meeting I will talk about what what was different from a report that you've seen in the past there really wasn't a ton of change this year there was one new Gatsby uh standard this is a governmental accounting standard um and it was related to the district's operating leases and so this one's kind of been in place or or in the works I should say for a couple of years and what that really did was change the way that governments are reporting operating leases so these are rental agreements for things like copiers and buses this isn't financing for something that the district is buying it's really just about these rental agreements and essentially what the get the standard does is to say that if the district is enjoying the right to use that property then there they should be reporting that as a financial resource and Reporting the liability associated with those leases um doesn't make a huge amount of difference for a regulatory basis District but we did need to analyze those leases if the total aggregated amount was material then it's really it's required to be reported so there will be just there's a new footnote related to that and then you'll see in a capital asset schedule you know gasby 87 leased property and Gatsby 87 lease debt would show up on this the statement of liabilities on the schedule of liabilities in the footnote so just if you're if you're curious about this um I like these details I know for most of you this is not your thing but um just in case you know there's something different there uh there's it as far as new standards that are coming out there is another one and it's related to subscription-based technology resources that the district might um have and again we are going to do the same thing at that point just analyze whether their material or significant enough to include in financial statements and I'm not sure if that's going to be for fiscal 23 or fiscal 24 but it's in the near future I would say all right um the back part of the audit report is actually related to the federal audit so this we refer to it as a single audit of all of your federal programs um and there and again was you know a clean audit there uh it's tough for a lot of districts with these new grants coming out sometimes the rules are not clear in the beginning um so it's not uncommon to have some issues make making sure you're in compliance with regulations in the grant one don't know what the rules are right right from the start but we did not have any issues there we did not discover any compliance problems uh with those grants so pleased to report a clean opinion on that and then finally um you know two more things one more thing I want you want to support which is a standard multi-tab spreadsheet is what it starts out to be required by a state board of education and I all of the district's financial information was kind of condensed into this one worksheet that gets submitted to the state and part of the calculations part of the part of the report it actually includes a measure called it's a financial profile score for the district and so it's ranking um it there's a couple different measures of financial strength there so looking at fund balances revenues and expenses of the amount of debt the amount of cash on hand and there's a it's it's based on a scale of you know one to four uh and the district score for this year and last year I know by this year I mean 22 because I'm always a year behind 22-21 the district score was 3.9 out of four and that's the highest recognition that's the highest uh score highest category of score in this recognition so always happy to see that so so um yeah yeah I think that was it then any questions all right too much information one one thing that as I went through it I want to clarify too is I you'll see somewhere I'm looking on Facebook capital projects funds yeah the budget was 267 the actual was 9.52 I just want to point out that's because we purchased uh we received a large Grant to purchase Chromebooks and we ran that through gamble projects so the expense was pretty high but we got revenue to replace reporting on the cash basis you know what your projects are going to be and then the timing of these invoices for for contractors or whatever it happens to be kind of messes with that budget sometimes at the end of the year if the work gets done and they get a bill in and it gets paid it hits the the financials and there goes the budget so that's not not on um that Grant and that that fund and that it was used so that is exactly why that how about on uh page 12 intergolastic programs that's like a 30 difference there what happened there too uh decrease underestimate right in the middle of the page there 241 versus 160.
plus if you have schools that are partner that way you can be challenging for them so do the schools give I guess I don't know this or something if they're really being teachers or not necessarily I mean it's regulated okay [Music] well I'm just thinking for example you got a math teacher that you're going to be looking for how can you attract the someone that's going to be here for me you know yeah an interviews yeah and in our contract you can see that there are some things that we can do to help with that actually there's a supplemental service on page five um there is another thing that the superintendent can do some different things with that and so that wasn't in there you know many many years ago but now we have some language in there that we can actually do some things with that so and I'm happy with this because I know eight years ago when I started on this board it was really tough to get teachers to stay motivated because their morale was so low because of the insurance problem that we had with the self-insurance fund and and how much we had to jump up in premiums because you know that was about when I first started it was about the height of Obamacare and we weren't keeping up with premium payments the way we thought we thought we were able to hold them steady and we shouldn't have been and with the compression I just had a lot of discussion and I Happy Teachers eight years ago about it we got to do something and I think now that we've got our insurance self-insurance fund paid off and we've got people righted on where they probably ought to be on the insurance and certainly a depression taken care of that's not a discussion anybody on this board's going to have to probably have over the future I'm glad that you know because they want a puzzle so I just let you know they're they're on number four here as a discretion to place a new teacher one to five rows higher based on the needs of the corporation and any exceptions to the salary schedule we discussed with msdwcba the Education Association representative representation and so we've got to be careful with that though too you want to be competitive but yet you don't want to raise to the level where it's going to cause a problem for somebody that's been loyal kind of like the whole compression issue but if it becomes that's the only option that we have then that's what we can use so I know that's what I know my wife works parking here and that's what they deal with is they got starting level starts here well that means I gotta bump everybody else up because just to get them to start there so that's why I'm just curious on how how competitive we are at that base level to get someone to start so we're hearing good things about What legislation might happen this year as far as how much education I mean how many the funding will change again for the biennial um but that's we don't know that for sure but yet there's they talk about that they have education committees they have the ways and means that they talk about all the the financials too and obviously Indiana the state of Indiana is doing very very well also and that helps with some of those conversations it just depends all right no because they're going to give it all the public education actually what they're going to do though seriously they will it will go it probably will do a public education but also they're going to do more vouchers too for charter schools and things like that but at least they're putting it into education and not giving us all those checks anyway again I recommend that we approve the 2021-2023 uh teacher contract I'll make the motion to approve the contract as it's written second motion and second to approve the contract all the papers say hi all right any unfinished business no on board policy any nothing there public comments on anything any IMC board members I apologize I must be wrong at 6 20.
again I kept the format the same as my predecessors since you're familiar with it could be the best way to start off here so the first page shows the year-to-date budget for the entire District so you have District wide and then it goes down for each school so your Berlin Memorial boysman Elementary in Toronto the second page I added a brief description of each of the categories so you know what is included in each and as you can see at the beginning of the school year we have a lot of budget transfers that take place Personnel miscellaneous expenses and grants are all encumbered so there's a lot of funds that are transferred and moved around to make everything work but the budget isn't the adjusted budget is the same thing you approved there still are a lot of expenses that are encumbered um some of them are you know we work through them through the year some common ones are special education expenses that were hard to always uncomfort utilities maintenance and operations um so just I just want everyone to keep in mind when you look at the budget balance that that isn't an accurate reflection of where we're going to be at the end of the year because there's a lot of expenses that will take place throughout the year um and um if I'm trying to understand where we are and how we're trending towards the bottom line budget what should I look at to say okay so if you look at the district wide yeah yeah there's nothing that's over a budget okay we're we're in one right now we are currently in line with olive oil pressure Administration will say the 1.048 original budget you've got transfers adjusted by your previously transfers transactions that have occurred plus didn't come and visit between the 69 000 at the end yes but there's expenses that are going to hit that 69 000 different people took a year to The Republic balance there are 69.
let's go a heck of a punt it's you saw metal control and now Metro with it at Midfield she'll look to make the play unable to control and now Belchertown will send that to the outside a nice little lead pass there it's more no able to intercept now she's looking up the field that's an aggressive play thankfully nobody injured Diane still a little stiff on the sideline she's looking to get a new section obviously we're not hoping for injuries but yes I saw her ready I like it one of the best at her job quite frankly I don't know if I've ever gone to a school with ar a better what is your job title uh athletic trainer trainer better trainer I don't know I trust her with my injuries she's the only one I know though so I oh I've known up to five never never seen a better trainer in my life up to five or actually no I I did dislocate my shoulder once at a child game and they sent me back into the game so yep she beats that one Diane's relocating that on the spot giving you some uh a little bit of medicine you know oh yeah yeah maybe some Tylenol I don't know I don't know if that would definitely it would definitely be cured on the spot though I don't know oh yeah no doubt a lot of room there yeah Belchertown able to carry it the other way Stevens is able to step up and put a little buffer on that attack Belchertown now controlled to the outside it's now Roman who's able to end up with it and she'll let that ball roll right out of bounds for an Esau Meadow goal kick substitution being made approaching the five minute Mark here I'm seeing a lot of uh a lot of action going on around Midfield not not too much on uh either end of the ball but you know a lot of good punts tonight yeah those those points a lot of Midfield action took a touch [Music] Thompson to the middle can't quite get a foot on it yeah I can't can I call us it's now Metro with it she's able to Meg her Defender it's like no more no on the other side what's that so just said that's what Lionel Messi does yeah she looks like messy pretty good Hollis now able to cut to the inside looking to make a few fancy moves a little bit too much some good aggressiveness there yeah you like to see that she's just really looking for like throw a ball no offside skull and good defense there yeah I'm not sure what happened oh yeah there had to be an offside too yeah yeah I definitely I definitely called that it's that's my FIFA instincts kicking in yeah good call good call thanks Steven's stepping up you know the last time I saw this much action uh it's probably a couple years ago I was ripping a FIFA Ultimate Team oh yeah well I I see my go-to is definitely FIFA 12.
so it was part of that work we actually created three different teams consisting of academic and CTE teachers administrators counselors and some community members as well so we focused on three different areas one was the admissions policy another area was the exploratory process and evaluation as part of the exploratory and then finally Co-op participation so all of those three different areas I'll directly relate to Equitable access and CTE um I just want to also thank Joshua Josh who is currently an instructional Specialist or instructional coach this year played a really big part in all of that work and continues to do so this year so he sort of oversaw the three different committees and helped us to pull out all of that together at the end of the year so a special thank you to Josh for that so the the changes some of the changes were just basically with the language so on page three section three McKinney vento and students in foster care so last year we underwent a a program review from the office of educational stability so that's part of Desi and they focus on students who are homeless or in foster care we did really well with that review but they just had a couple of recommendations and radius has partially implemented just in terms of some some of the language and the admissions policy so I just adapted from their recommendation and updated that language in section three in terms of homeschool students just made another language change because it was sort of broad so just to make sure that we have a sufficient sample of student work that's provided as part of a portfolio so somebody who's homeschooled they do not have the traditional academic records attendance and discipline and what I found this year with a couple of applicants that we had who were homeschooled there was really a lot of variability and how much was actually submitted as part of their application so this was just updated to reflect that change see Leo um what is the change I see those stuffed bread on the top which shows me what where you're changing when it comes to home so it's yeah it looks like there's a strike through where maybe that should have been a highlight instead so um instead of just a representative sample we added the level of work must be appropriate for the grade level being sought and a letter from the local superintendent attesting to this grade level may be requested so if we receive an application from somebody who's homeschooled and it looks like um the the work that's submitted is not even on grade level um or if there's not a sufficient amount to really be able to compare it to their their peers in Middle School um we may reach out to the superintendent just to to ask them to attest to the fact that what's being submitted is actually considered grade level for that student then on page six just a clarification for applications to grade 10 or 11 for fall admission we just added language just to clarify that um applications for grades 10 and 11 is really dependent upon openings and specific CTE programs as well as overall School enrollment so we're looking at individual openings and programs that Stu students are interested in but also the number for that particular graduating class so that was just a minor clarification there on page seven pages seven through nine this is where we did make some changes to the selection process and criteria section B for attendance so you can see the old attendance brackets for the the number of points per unexcused absence we don't include excused absences or tardies just unexcused absences that section was updated so instead of Five Points between each different bracket we broke that up a little bit more um and what ended up happening is we actually gave a higher number of points for any student basically who had under 20 unexcused absences and then 20 and above it remained the same so by doing this we actually gave more students additional points um with their unexcused absences but we also created additional brackets so that there would hopefully be fewer ties between students receiving the same score foreign I'm happy to provide clarification after if that's confusing the next section section c for conduct and discipline we actually change the number of points allocated for that criteria so previously that was 10 points for discipline um so for zero suspensions a student received 10 points for one it was five two or more they received one point what we found was that due to the new admissions regulations where only very severe um major offenses could be counted towards discipline for for CTE applications out of 1500 applications only two students actually received or actually lost any points for discipline so essentially that 10 points was pretty much being given to every student so to taking that into consideration we added that onto the guidance counselor's recommendation so the guidance council's recommendation that's on I believe it's page eight letter d so we increase the counselor's recommendation from 10 to 15 points so that's where the extra five points from the discipline was reallocated to and then we change the the school recommendation in addition to adding the Five Points we created a rubric that was aligned with our school's core values so the the four core values and each student would receive a rating for for each one of those either exceeding meeting partially meeting or not meeting that core value and there's a detailed description of each one so our four core values as well as a fifth category demonstrated interest in Career Technical education so in doing this we're also able to allow more input from the the sending schools we've you know heard um from from many sending school counselors and other staff over the the years that they would really like to have a little bit more input into these decisions and I think particularly now where we know that we have such a high number of applicants and a limited number of seats they really know their students they know you know what the students interests are you know what types of Learners they are so this really allows them to have that opportunity um the other thing with the the rubric being included in this as well this is accessible for any student so it's not based on their academic achievement or ability um you know is it's not based on the attendance even particularly but it's really like that individual student and what they put forth in their um their school work and how they apply themselves what type of a Community member they are so this is really something that is equally accessible for all students to be able to earn those extra points and then on pages 10 and 11 this is another significant change to the policy and this is actually our our exploratory program which changed this year so this came about partially through the equity work that we had done but also we changed our master schedule this year and we changed the what the exploratory process looks like so this year I'm sure you remember hearing this previously in the spring through the presentation about the schedule students are actually going through a one-day pre-ex exploratory for each one of the 19 areas at the end of the pre-exploratory they will choose 12 that they'd like to explore more in depth for for five days each and they will be placed in nine of those exploratories so in addition to changing what the exploratory process looks like so that actually went from because of the change in that process it goes from a half year exploratory to three quarters of the year so that's one of the changes that's reflected here but additionally we replaced the grading criteria for each student so the pre-exploratory is not graded but once they go through their nine exploratories that is graded and we change the grading criteria for that and the Really the rationale is to replace just sort of a compliance and having to do what they're asked to do just to follow through to get that grade but really like student engagement um you know they're how they're engaged with the work how they're engaged with their peers and then also evidence of their understanding of the career area and how it fits into their own personal interests and future career plans so that's the change in the grading rubric for for each individual exploratory the actual placement criteria however that has not changed so that's the same system it was in the past that students will be graded in each one and then a percentage of the overall score for ranking comes from the overall exploratory average as well as their grades and their first second and third choice so that piece does not change yes I had a question on the pages 10 and 11.

so we have a district-wide report and it's important to keep in mind that there are a lot of expenses that aren't allocated or defined at the school level that includes Utilities District office Personnel supplies our warehouse supplies operations expenses Food Service Transportation Etc so it's important to know that that that's at the district-wide level so the percent of reported district-wide expenses is 27 percent of the total spend in other words 73 percent is spent at the district schools even considering everything in the first bullet also of the total district-wide spend of that 27 41 is associated with transportation and operations and we know that they are very um closely tied to the activities at the schools and the individual school reports there is a separate one-page report for each school on the agenda item uh and you again utility spend is not reported at the individual School level and once approved the school level report will be posted for review under our finance page I also wanted to add to it when this was new in 2020 we we shared a comparison a side-by-side comparison of two schools of similar size um but very very different in program so the intent of this report we believe is so that the public can see a per pupil spend um school by school it's not really comparing Apples to Apples because of the program differences um we can do that again and share that with you at a future meeting and and pick some schools that are comparable in size to show to show the difference how much the difference of programming can cost in the per pupil spend I I would appreciate if you guys would do that again it's been a couple years and I think that would help us again as I looked through those numbers just to help see put some actual like daily things daily things that are happening in our schools to those numbers that we can see on that report sure be happy to okay thanks the other thing I wanted to add so at the district level or the district-wide report that's at the front of the the grouping of reports um just because we're not accounting for the spend at the schools doesn't mean it's not occurring at the schools so I just wanted to make sure that was clear we do account for all of our utilities at the district level but we all know that there's electricity being put provided at um at Neely at some times yes and all of our elementary schools Etc so I just wanted to make sure that that that we're even with this within that with not allocating out it we're still showing that 27 is at the district level and 73 percent is at the school so remember all of our itinerant teachers that are not doing business at the at the district office at all are actually accounted for in that district-wide spend so just wanted to make sure that was clear any additional questions we do have appendix after this we are not going to go through those slides those were posted to help folks navigate through the annual financial report if you had any other questions I'm happy to have an answer board members do you have any questions I just want to comment that I know this is a lot of work and I really appreciate our effort to be transparent and to show our community where the taxpayer funds are going and that I wish that every education entity that's receiving taxpayer funds had was required to have the same transparency so thank you very much for the next steps is we will be this is on our agenda for tonight okay wonderful if there's no further questions thank you very much we really appreciate it thank you all right that will now take us to 2.02 FY 2022 Bond and override report Dr McCord thank you madam president governing board members again I'll turn that over to miss betz and her team they will talk to you about our override and bond spend report good evening again so not to to mean to be overwhelming but yes there are a lot of slides here most of it is just contextual that you've seen the last four years in PR in making this presentation to you so I will go through quite a few of them very quickly there's just a few notable things I'd like to share in addition it's not just me Mr Castellano will be presenting information about the security and Technology spend Mr Trace Toby will be presenting information about the transportation's spend and then Albert will be providing the details regarding the operational spend so again we're here this this report to you is required by Statute however we're very happy to show the results of our spend this year it's been a very positive year and we feel that the work that has been done out in our schools has made a huge impact on the student learning so uh going back to the override commitments for fiscal year 2021 recall that when you we have an override we because things change so quickly in school Finance it we're only obligated to make sure that we are following those commitments for that first year afterwards however we've made a commitment that we're going to continue to follow those commitments throughout the life of the override so looking at the override Revenue comparisons to Prior year looking at the 2022 override spend then presenting some Bond project Financial summaries the GPS tax rate history and then detailed Bond spend that includes the photos at the end of the presentation so the override so a 15 override was approved in November of 19.
okay that would be awesome I have to do a little research on that one actually because I I don't know if it just popped up I would have over budgeted there the budget yeah that yeah I like to figure out why I over budgeted there because we did have all of our programs back last year so already could have been some it could have been some of that that could have been yes those after that you're right thanks Michelle that uh those after school programs that we're running we did we used to pay for them out of here oh yeah okay now we're painful okay okay yep that's probably what it was all right anybody have any other questions thank you thank you appreciate it appreciate you coming tonight yeah can I please have a motion to prove the 2020-2021 audit report motion second yeah yes anybody any questions on the September employment report can I please have a motion to prove the September employment report motion second Vivian yes yeah yes um any questions on this I met with the building grounds committee we decided to focus that money this year on new flooring for the uh K1 classrooms that have carpet original it's original carpet and uh so this will be we'll use the matching fifty thousand dollar Grant the total project will be just over a hundred thousand so I thought this would be a good way to use it how many classrooms after these do you still have the original carpet Middle School we have a lot but Primary Elementary because of the mold issue we had a few years ago it's all we we might try to tag those the remaining rooms over there into this project so there's probably Vinnie would you say four or five rooms at private elementary or Elementary and then Middle School a lot of classrooms but we have replaced some in the Middle School are we still doing carpet um at the middle school We have replaced it with carpet over there we're not no we're going to put hard surface floor the new pod yes we did put carpet in the new pod last two years ago but yeah we're gonna start replacing those with them we just haven't changed it yeah we've only I think we've replaced carpet in a couple classrooms still original yeah okay yeah oh no no it's you know it does we have some classrooms that need replacement in here um over primary they want the hard surface because the kids spill a lot of stuff clean yeah it's clean so we're not replaced true yeah I should have clarified that we're replacing carpet with uh DCT tile yeah and then eventually that'll happen everywhere yeah yeah I think so huh true anybody have any questions on the school maintenance project Grant care please have a motion to report the submission of the 2023 School maintenance project Grant motion second Lauren and Doug yes uh anybody or we accepted a resignation from Maybelline Davis food service worker effective September 21st 2022.
yeah so each I would have related to accurately booked that I'd have to dig into it it's hard for me at this point in time because I didn't create so it you know I have to go back and really dig into it and look at it most of the you know normally I probably don't have my this is going to take me a little bit to catch up so just looking at this I think that there was probably a lot of movement with principal movement me coming in so that I believe that's a safe but it's not going to get back to and like in another example as you can see like with instructional support I did a budget transfer of almost a hundred and twelve thousand yeah a lot of that um was movement within the ground added um some error professionals into the two border branch and then we were able to have savings throughout the budget because of that is we realized because of some senior teachers salary ladder is that part of that too would we see that reflection yeah that's under the instructional support yeah yeah if you've ever wanted to a deeper dive or this presented a different way just let me know because I mean I haven't broken out from a lot of different ways yeah I love spreadsheets um so my question is if we're under budget by 1.6 million a year end which is what I'm gathering from this right there's going to be one point maybe no so sort of not everything's encumbered utilities aren't encumbered um there could be you know special education is always an unknown gotcha not everything is uncomfortable in the budget so that's what I'm trying to say that I get it you're not there it looks like we're in a good position right now we're in a good position yep so if there's extra money left over let's say like I don't know let's say like April rolls around and we're like oh yeah we've got like this extra 500 000 or 400 000 can we like just take that money to do a project I'm talking about like let's say we want to put air conditioning in at bes we do that 400 000 didn't can't get another government um you don't think that we'll have that I mean I don't think we're going to have that amount of money we spent almost right there yeah that's what we have that's when we have something yeah past five years I know it's a nice thing to think about well I'm just looking at the spreadsheet so I'd love to see the other encumbrances are maybe it would help you if I gave you a list of what's not encumbered and then yeah see why I'm not you're not going to have one oh wait this is all spent right and the reason a lot of times that we're in good shape is like at the end of the year we do have stuff we prepay a lot of things right wishes and things because that helps us otherwise we have to pay for all those during the year which we almost could never do correctly we'd be digging into the school choice all the time or we just wouldn't be able to what we have said which we frequent things that that are allowable to prepare so if there's a savings you'd prepay that's typically what we do and building is as someone who had to defend our budget to two different towns I had calls from from different people they come and selected um I think if we had an extra 500 000 it would not we would not fare well since we went and bought for that kind of money anyway oh right exactly so we pay for things that we would have had to pay for anyways like like I said tuitions yeah so we can get prepaid when we do because we'd have to do it anyway it'd have to come from the top so because lawyer just said to have 500 000 over and then oh you know we're going to put air conditioning and put something up right no it's not the best option so it takes to say okay you did this so you can prepare for something yeah it would be like we took this money this money I think they would want us to pay for next year's budget you know what I mean I get it so it doesn't sound like we're going to have that much leftover well we'll see if it usually it's usually that's why I kind of was thinking about leaving that balance column office kind of see there because it's not an actual elections that's what I'm like [Music] um [Music] and if you look at it you'll you'll see that where it lands yeah no I get it I get it yeah like when I started I will say with the prepays like um there were I think two other districts prepaid and I want to say transportation and that was a huge help in starting off this year without making everything balanced like that makes a very big difference to be able to do that to do something that's huge yeah how much flexibility does the administration have to do these transfers as you've done throughout the year is that so we can transfer within a song called yeah all these are transferred within microbes okay yeah so I normally always brought budget transfers on a quarterly basis for approval um you have one more so the last item is the deposit for the ocap trust for requesting approval for a deposit into the old head trust for 51 700 this is the amount that was approved by the school committee and the fiscal year 23 budget and it accounts for funds from the Berlin Memorial North and Elementary in Utah thank you but [Music] thank you appreciate it you're welcome um so Miss Fitzpatrick and Mr Mara of the night off so we'll move down to the school committee's chair of support and mine's more of just a communication really um I did reach out to Lindsay Kaepernick who is the chair of the Shrewsbury school committee and I did it because um I haven't actually found a document for their superintendent's evaluation and it was really streamlined a lot easier so I reached out to our Master if we could have a chat you know or she could just explain to me how you know how they do this and she said let's have a call we were on the call for probably a good half an hour she was so um great to work with um and she gave me a lot of information that I will pass along to the superintendent evaluation that group um learning is very helpful and what are some of the things we need to look at too are how the the superintendent does the report to they use a different structure so it might be easier using the different structures so those are things that everybody can talk about another thing that we were able to talk about it just happened to have she happened right up that day was um you know Boylston is not part of the aspect collaborative Berlin is and you know there's a lot of upset parents and I don't think they necessarily understand that it wasn't our decision it was Asif as decision um and in Shrewsbury the parents were very upset because she said they had about a hundred kids that wanted to go so she said with that many kids you know it's worth our looking into how we can join the collaborative how much it would cost what we would have to do if it's even a possibility so Shrewsbury is investigating that right now and I did ask her if she could keep me in the loop I said I don't have to remember to reach out to me I'll reach out to you every now and then just to check in to see how it's going so we're lucky to have a district so close um she thought that in the end it may be quite expensive um and that the town you know ultimately it would be the town's decision to move forward with it but she was doing a leg work for it which is great it's nice to have someone so close by that um to be a resource and at some point we need another Vocational High School in this area to be able to cover the demand or versus offerings and he was good that the internships would start at the the idea of having you know parents come in and it's advisory well we have talked about this Improvement so this goes back to the question view us how do we separate ourselves from other schools why are we losing kids and I think it was the first school committee I believe that asked me that question you know this is one of the things we wanted to try to figure this out but why do we lose kids and why do we know how to keep them and so the you know the reality is we know we'll lose kids to the Math Science Academy those kids the Saint John who's because the locations so when all that said and done leads us to compete with the other academic schools and we're small so we don't we don't necessarily we're not able to offer sometimes for the academic program when they offer so when we talked about the finding improvements and there's now on three and Cal says a great job with them with Sally and Karen and the guidance Department of getting us out the way is to introduce the internship and Shadow of the program almost like if you think about terms of like a Northeastern University where they have I think you can go out and work um so you get some work experience so we started it last year they were going to offer like career pianos I think you call them for all sophomores and then I think they they included the June but also in the junior offering shadowing experiences where Juniors can go out into the community we have a lot of Biotech we have a lot of universities hospitals kids can do shadowing experience and then um in in the city and they have a internship available so that'd be something that there's a lot of most schools don't most academics don't have that so that's in that is in there and one of the things that we have in the budget last year we've had someone to work on database so even though we didn't have the program we want we thought we needed the database so she spent the majority of her time just we had an old database from the Central Mass stem pipeline but you know so she worked off that but also did a lot of call home we spent a whole year with just just building up the database so now when we restruct it we structured the guidance Department but a lot of one of those um one of the those faculty members to not oversee that program so I know Kelly you do a lot of work with them is there anything you want to add on this so I know the program's governance in the two-year District Improvement plan [Music] um and again the pandemic you know this was all this would have been we got the schedule to actually be up and running but it's still there we we did take the time to build those databases that they can use and we do want to know the program says of course as well so students would have some background and education around how to conduct themselves in the public setting you know what what is that said to have when they go into into their Workforce so yeah so she's worked with Islands do you need more parents do you need to go to call out to parents at all to say would you be interested about you know a career that you'd be willing to have a child you know student Shadow you will absolutely okay and then the other thing is things like you know I'm going to talk about this this year no instructions so that not only gives us more opportunities for those students but I think it gives us more opportunities to just expansion of a after-school program so those are the little things that other schools because of that big they they don't it's not that they don't offer but but they're big schools so they don't have they think it gets composite who are small enough so that we could offer Philadelphia school activities Hollywood areas you know music classes all right all those kind of things so those are the little things because basically we're in Academic School and so was everybody else yeah a lot of resources so you think how are we gonna we're but we're small we could be quite simple and never so we get to take advantage and solve these things that the internship Shadow and the after school care is putting in the late buses and I think you know we talked about that in another one so I mean that's something you have to work on but but I can't tell you how many how many calls I took from parents especially when I first got here um at the high school at least so I didn't think it at the other end right non-specification well I mean again I took a lot of calls from parents who want to do more advanced academic classes this is why that sixth period appeared in the first place is to try to expand programming you know that's not the way to deal with a very structured way so so that you don't miss you know you expand program at the expense of management and operations at the school class so we talked about that so um part of it is the operations the management products that too um yes yes asking for information on how other school communities and districts share reading materials I know people have questions us on that and I think they're right and we need to be able to provide transparent access to the materials that are related to the meeting we're having so that people don't know what they all look during the afternoon can you share the story what you heard that from other districts who cares as to how they understand what experience how they kind of proceeded to make sure this information yes I can um I know several of them reviews one one District takes um they take they basically have a full PDF it starts the first page is the um the agenda and then all underneath it are linked or not linked because it's a big PDF form of every item that's going to be discussed when they are um oh they're in their meetings I did ask them and curiously enough they give their they release theirs the next day it's just always been the next day um and that was something that was interesting as well was trying to figure out when you release it when legally can you release it there was um there was a there are several different kinds of methods that they use they use programs um let's see there's a woman from Brighton Regional uh the chair she wrote in and said that um the you know like they use board docs which is a program and any document can be prepared in an advanced exceptions a few and both with the agenda at the time of posting so they once they post their agenda all of their documents posted to so there's a few different things that they didn't Adam did you say UE or something I use something called Portables in my clients workouts yeah type of product but I think from my perspective the year into this now I think we need to do a better job of getting Community materials available 72 hours is what I'd expect to be able to have everything in hand for upcoming meeting so I want to ask us to try to be better at that and get these things in there and if if we can't get information in there in time we can push the item to the next meeting but speaking personally the settlements for this being human director as well and that's difficult to catch up on and do the formula I know a mohawk Trail let's show this last one they post their packet on the Friday prior to their Tuesday meeting so you can look at it you know over the weekend digest it which is great for two committee members but it's also great for the public in case there's something that they want to say they don't have to kind of generated on the fly so we have lots of different options there's another nice skill to check out as well but we did discuss it in our policy meeting a little bit and I don't know if that would be something policy would continue to deal with or present to students so we did have a discussion about it well our next meeting isn't until November 15th so we've got some time here yes get that figures I'd love to see us as situations it's extension season October 15th so um yeah it's just hard I you know there was some stuff in there but the stuff that was not you don't have a chance to look at it and then the meeting becomes less productive so yeah well my friend as the week begins the time disappears oh yeah at the end of the week so yeah so yeah 72 hours I think is good and if we can get it to the public too right so public can look at it and decide if they want to come and sit and listen or you know if I talk it's being discussed in the material being discussed it's something they're not interested in they don't you know I want to add them today on our school committee Facebook page he posted I saw that I was great thank you so great place to go check it out um subcommittee updates budget facilities and safety subcommittee yeah so we got a meeting um last Thursday um part about two hours uh Megan um Julian myself along with Nancy Carroll and Paul section for one unfortunately what we talked about cell phone service in around this building entails um I think overall a really effective meeting we were able to look back at some of the benchmarking we had requested for non-union Personnel understand where we are compared to other districts specifically for principles and paraprofessionals and have some unusual conversation there about in terms of enhancing some of those budgets to make sure we can attract entertaining great support staff and principals in all of our buildings um we also looked at the district Improvement plan specifically the Personnel section which was closest to completion and looked at some of the timing on hiring in particular looking at those AIDS in the kindergarten classrooms as well as to teachers at Bes that would then give us three teachers for everything grade level of EDS and so the message we sent back to the administration was that move forward with doing these things now and put them in the budget for next year rather than trying to space them over to the period I think we all feel it doesn't need to make a pretty major investment in our schools this upcoming year through this budget process and let's put it on we also spoke about the facilities assessment we have motivated for Bes okay still waiting for some people there if you know any good facilities assistant contractors tell them this is an RFP out there uh 19 October 19th to us death so that's an important thing I think for us too because we know the root for the HVAC system in particularly experience enhancement they are not replacement um later on today and be able to understand what that looks like over the next 10 years and trying to make sure we have the right level of savings account so that we can cover our retired Healthcare and expenses going forward um the cell phone I think that's an important thing yeah I know parents have been asked I've had a few parents ask about that so do you want to go vaccinating yeah so what Paul shares is that back in 2007 where they talked about potentially locating the tower here on the property they listen back and forth at that time between the two towns and the school district and the revenue from them think the outcome of our conversation is that we need to talk to the town of worlds in person and see if there's opportunity for them to pursue versus for us there's some challenges with it we wanted to put like a repeater device here in this building to improve it we run into some legal liability issues with that but I think the first step is for us to talk to the other election official groups and about a potential way to improve the lack of sufferings I think I like that you guys are asking to see like all needs on the table because I think sometimes when you look at the budget like well that's not that bad or to know when for the community the parents to know what the needs are I think is really important because then when you know when if we have to go and ask for money they say oh well I get it now I heard all these things so I like the transparency and I like that it's early on yes and they understand what it is we're trying to do and why and then it's great all right Student Success in technology so everything is that life design it is much does anybody want to speak to it um the policy and school committee Effectiveness I'm Neil Norman president because myself Mr Tottenham Mr Holmes and Mr zany um and the wbac um what we did is we went over the updates from the masc policies they sent out additional language and what I've done in they're going to be first reads for the next time what I've done is I've made a document for three of them I used the rest of them but you see what the old policy question you see in red what they want to add in and it's just protected classes it's no major change other than the fact that they want to make sure these classes so you'll see those in the next meeting talked a little bit about goals and we were going to work Mike was going to actually write them off right the superintendent evaluation subcommittee that's a different name is like the contract so we haven't met because because yes and even though I'm not on I'm not a part of that group I'm trying to figure out what I can intend to give you guys the information to go through and I'd be happy to explain the old process if you need me there I know a few forms we have to kind of figure out how we would do that but or to even just you know send it along with a letter because try and make heads or tails of stuff it can be really you know what we could do Laurie maybe you and I could just talk since I'm a chair on that committee that would be great yep yeah and I'd share that to the committee so we can at least kind because I know Bob had mentioned maybe kind of make things a little easier for us yes to kind of do pieces of you know the evaluation or as much as we can yes on an orderly basis so yeah maybe we should try to yeah perfect starting school committee and Miracle Connell attorneys at law the negotiation and preparation of contracts between the vbrsd school committee and Carol Costello for the position of superintendent of schools beginning July 1st 2023 in the amount of 235 dollars an hour so and it's really a discussion I'll just say that the budget subcommittee has looked good in the process of on this topic it looked at several uh attorneys that were evaluating for the future again they're going to plan to address an amount of General General recommendations on permanent Council but in the meantime as supporting given this for this upcoming better trial them and all right any other discussion on paper hi and I as well emotion to hire Miracle final to do negotiations with the drsd school committee and current passed out um could I have a motion to approve an open deposit in the amount of 51 737 dollars absolutely certainly discussion all in favor um can I have a motion to approve the acceptance of Grant as presented by Ms Costello okay discussion all in favor um now items D through G we have um they're all bursaries for the public and now it's approved the creation of the chess club at to Hondo Regional approved the creation of a game group at the condo approved the creation of an automo and add an additional stipend to the National Junior Honor Society um so those are all first reads and we will vote on those next time and at this time we do not need to enter executive sessions so our our upcoming meeting date are October 25th as native November 15 and December 13th all in favor aye I mean I thought this concludes on me
uh Fork it outside the inside X is the cross button uh uh Neymar Jr he's pretty good yeah I'd absolutely abuse him yeah I don't know he was just a cheat code it's like Mike thick Mike Vick and Madden Madden 07 yeah 99 speed oh yeah can't beat that no way foreign that ball pops all the way back out to the Florio and we sit at just over three minutes remaining in this first half year this is gonna get a little action it's Mecha absolutely I don't know I like that yeah it gets a little intense and she goes for another one can't play it and Thompson gets getting a little chippy here you know I don't I don't mind the aggressiveness yeah a little a little aggressive behavior never hurts you know love to see the competitiveness it's not Steven's getting bought it out of bounds that'll be a he saw metal throwing and Metro will be subbed out as well as Tallis I believe it's lucasic and Jordan who check into the game throwing lukasik is able to intercept that ball ends up all the way back with Roman field yeah just over a minute left we're still sitting at a zero zero game if you're just joining us Furious are you playing this passive are you gonna trust your offense and uh maybe trying to get another opportunity on net you know I mean I just play aggressively they still have zero goals so they gotta they gotta get a goal they need to win this game they're going towards playoffs and they're still sitting at a 500 record so uh so I believe only three games left another waiter just unreal um oh 38 seconds check into uh just over the last 30 seconds of this first half they're lucky I don't got messy on the sticks oh and the Florida was able to scoop that up as they look to go for one final Rush as uh Bobby and Presto uh head up to the box for the halftime report Mourinho sending it to the middle now it's lucasic lukasik looking towards Davis bonds up back in Belcher five seconds left looks like this ball is going to be killed off and that will bring us to the half all right now we got uh Joe Prez and uh Bobby cash joining us in the booth for a special halftime report we'll give them the mics and uh let's see what they saw how's it going there cash oh it's going good Joe going good uh what do you see here uh what I see I see a lot of good defense a lot of back and forth you know I think the goal is you're making fantastic Shades fantastic uh obviously super seven uh tailored to Florio she's she's diving at everybody she just had a big save right but belchertown's goal is she got up there she didn't get up there bro they're making a big sale today she got up there she had a one-hand she looked like Michael Jordan oh my God yeah Taylor she's a she's a stud super seven uh probably one of the best goalie in uh western Mass right now oh best goalie and yell no doubt uh but you know we got a lot of potential out there uh Kaylee she's also a big player um out there you know like we got to use the outsides a little more but we're looking good we're looking good we are looking good we're very confident going into this half you know this is a big game for y'all uh versus uh Belchertown you know we just got to bring it home we just got to bring it home you got you got a real good start of a coach there Scary Terry uh oh Terence you know he's a big stud there he's one of the better coaches around tell me about it what else you see out there oh what do I see ah you know I I thought they pushed the ball very well there they had it in front of the net a couple times you know but they just got they couldn't finish on top of the goalie I mean I mean we had a couple big chances out there hit crossbar one time but yeah just it was a weaker shot oh well Taylor She's pumping the ball I always Hatfield every time that's big puns sometimes our goalies can't even accomplish that but yeah that's uh that's tough to hear I know I can be frustrated for you but uh all right glad that the girls are getting it going they're absolutely buzzing tonight because they're a rolling dude they are Roll Tide baby Royal all right yeah thank you Chad thank you Kevin will it's been real out doing eight minutes thank you foreign thank you foreign review halftime report I'm here with will I'm uh I'm here with Chad you know we're a great team obviously we have The Snack Shack certified nachos uh go get them from uh your us Snapchat shall we give them a go only three dollars three dollars we'll give them a go I don't know all right all right a little sketchy but I got it you gotta get a good amount of cheese on there looks good to me man yeah I mean I'll give it a try wow yeah one bite everybody knows the rules on WOW wow man got a little bit of spice to it it's got the it's got the it's got the flavor the texture though that's that's what's throwing me off here obviously obviously the tortilla chip classic it's been in the game for years um fair enough nacho cheese another classic right yeah I mean yeah it's it's been a it's been in the game for a while now so uh this chips might be a bit stale just a little bit oh yeah I I I I I see where you're coming from uh what what would you what's your official rating ah six seven I ate one boy everybody I gotta go to another girl hold on yeah I give it a six of them yeah I was gonna go five eight but after that second ship my my taste buds were really activated and I think I'm gonna go I think I'm gonna go six two six three somewhere in the middle all right so uh you know we'll solve it you don't get go get your nachos uh your local Snack Shack yeah absolutely I'd say it's worth the the three bucks great price Great Value great chips great cheese supporting the summer oh yeah always good what one more yeah we'll get back to the uh the soccer game now oh yeah that was a good natural of you though that ball kick out to the barge the barge will send it towards Midfield Belchertown controls and a whistle will be blown yep Belchertown free kick they'll make a quick play lucasic able to get ahead on it now Belchertown has an opportunity in the middle but nobody's able to actually get a foot on it oh that's a pedal that's got to be a penalt yep thank you that's free yeah you know they obviously they can't they can't all think they're Alex Morgan or Tim Howard or mbappe so you got you gotta work with what you got you gotta work with your teammates yeah I'm definitely knowing Bob is on this team but uh we got Kayla Castle gotta then come got the Florida so you got Tia yeah yeah we got a lot of players on Steam got some serious Talent we don't have him bop it but they'll be nice obviously yeah it would be nice if we had uh I mean even if they have like a like a Rob Cunningham out there someone with speed agility even Mr McGee like put him out there he's I think he's dropping five five six goals okay maybe even seven man yeah I'd have to agree with you on that one you could show some real Force I mean like for sure absolutely weight room yeah I say put him at striker you know oh yeah that could be a danger I don't know how these refs would comply with them I hope he probably hired them so I think he did just be like not gonna pay you unless I don't know how uh am I would like that but just be like yeah I'm not gonna pay you for this Let it Fly just for him bar goes inside and a shot wow just goes left just barely Lorio catches a break wow that's those are the type of shots that uh teams like Belchertown hope hope can put past some serious talent in net over there absolutely and interestingly they won't give a deflorio the goal kick she'll catch a break for a minute and now lucasa controlling at Midfield back in my day I used to be a Fair goalie myself well it's actually pretty good very I was the best goalie like in terms of where everything I was just an all-around on the team or like a Nissan Meadow or no I was I'm talking like I'm talking like world they call me Tim Howard at one point why'd you quit injury because I well I wasn't bald so I wasn't Tim Howard you know this they said I could have made it to the league I used to play in kindergarten but uh yeah I see I don't doubt that you you got the height you got the speed yeah tore the ACL so oh yeah that's yeah it's definitely a killer career Ender yeah ball goes outside um back in kindergarten so okay this is going to be a corner kick for Belchertown hoping to put one through the net here to our uh 200 viewers thank you for watching yep yep there's 200.
yes I like the idea of the exploratory um that one day where they get exposed from the Explorer teacher or whatever and then the fact that we have increased it to five days of actual exploratory my concern is that the students now have picked their top 12 that they're interested in um uh they ranked so do I don't mean the students ranked have they ranked what they want so if you're only letting them explore nine of the 12 they've picked and maybe the 11th one on the list is there one they're most interested in so how do you I guess my question is do the students get to rank their highest interest and are they guaranteed going the five days in those highest interest yeah so we'll ask them to submit their preferences for the 12 in their order of Interest exactly the way that you're describing it and each student will be guaranteed to get into their top I believe it might be their top five will ensure that every student gets into those and try to place them in as many of the other choices as possible in order of their preference thank you quick question um I'm looking here where it says each student is evaluated based on scoring rubric which includes the following categories workmanship in production um collaboration and employability are you explaining it to me the collaboration employability sure um so that's basically how they're working with other uh there's their peers working along with the teacher in that program and the employability skills are things like you know coming prepared wearing your safety equipment having your you know your boots if you need boots your goggles um you know being present being on task I believe there's also I don't have that with me but there's also there is a rubric that goes along with um with this new grading process that all of the exploratory teachers will be asked to use so that they are consistent get a chance Brian can I back you up just two questions you had mentioned homeschool students do we have a problem with the students that come to us as far as their content of the criteria they followed and second question is you had mentioned severe um conduct misconduct who decides what severe is [Music] can I just ask for clarification on the first question are there concerns about the the content knowledge of our homeschool students or all school all students from home school students so uh we have just a very small number um actually this year it was just one home school student and I think that student you know when they came in they were accepted they did the star assessment and they were really very much on par with their peers which is a good thing but just in looking at the application that we were evaluating and then looking at our policy it became clear that it could become a problem in the future because it was a little bit vague and um you know different school systems have different criteria for for what they submit as a portfolio so I don't want to talk about a particular student's application but my concern is that in the future if somebody were to give us you know say a a worksheet for each subject or something like that and ask you know present that as a portfolio that's not really a good representation of their work so we just wanted to clarify that just so that if there are issues in the future that we would be able to address that so yeah so that was actually determined through the the change in the deci regulations so it only includes conduct I'm not an attorney only includes conduct that um falls under chapter 37h 37h and a half 37h and three quarters so 37h is um your suspensions for things like assaulting a staff member weapons and Drugs in a school 37h and a half is a student who's been charged with a felony outside of school and 37h and three quarters is anything that falls under your basically violating your code of conduct your regular student handbook and discipline but it has to add up to at least 10 days of suspension so if it doesn't fall into one of those categories you cannot deduct points quick question on the um home school students do we give them like a template to follow what um they're supposed to be submitting for the portfolio no we don't we we go by what what they provide as their portfolio okay I have questions regarding um the additional considerations that were added um it's on the second page from the beginning of the admission policy summary of changes so it says additional considerations that were discussed by the equity team and admissions uh committee including the following so the first one was addressing the priority deadline um so I understand based on the committee's decision to not make any changes regarding that that deadline but just to clarify then there are no changes in in terms of those that do apply after the deadline that um the way the total point system is that those that apply after the deadline could potentially move up in the list from those that did apply on time yeah because I don't see I'm so sorry because I'm seeing that that wasn't addressed in the consideration I feel like it was like a two-part question uh regarding um that item it was the deadline it it's like the deadline itself was uh a question and then it's also those that applied after the deadline um from my understanding and from what I remember it was discussed if those that applied after the fact that they should be on the bottom of the list um so again that wasn't I don't see that it was a dress so yeah I mean I think we we discussed it and really addressed it as one issue so that February 1st was was I well I can't say always but at least in the time that I've been here it is considered a priority deadline and otherwise that in other words there wasn't a hard deadline so um basically if you applied by February 1st you were sort of guaranteed to be considered in that initial pool of applicants um and yes so what we had talked about in regards to that um was keeping it as is because the the intent of the the admissions regulations and looking at these policies and having the committee approve the policy every year is to ensure that we are providing Equitable access to all students regards regardless of you know race um you know country of origin you know any any of those factors and looking at this um it could potentially have an adverse impact on students who are applying say for example if somebody you know moves to Lawrence or one of our any one of our communities after this deadline and they've missed that deadline now we're potentially having a negative impact on our English Learners um so that was why we were looking at this as a potential equity and access issue if we did start with you know having that firm deadline it would basically close the door to a certain group of students who might otherwise have been able to apply so it was viewed as again a potentially potential equity and access issue okay I do have a follow-up question kind of look for where I put the star my my apologies okay under page 9 of 11 regarding review and appeals it was also discussed on whether the reason for a student being denied or wait listed if that's gonna going to be added or addressed in the letter itself in order for parents to properly know how um not properly know how to appeal but what they're appealing and what documents they should be providing when they do appeal yes and I actually I did um consider that and I spoke with Mr Lavoy in the admissions committee and I actually did prepare some additional notes on that topic um I really because of some of the issues that come up some of the concerns particularly on behalf of the the sending schools I thought it might be best to have a conversation and executive session with the superintendent so I did prepare um I don't know how many you know different points in regards to that because I do know that that's been something that's been brought up so there are potential concerns that come up um when we're providing that information we can certainly you know anybody who called to um you know if they were placed on the waiting list and they wanted to have that information we can certainly share it but there are potential challenges to sort of just sending that out um to to every family um when they're initially wait listed depends on um not that I'm important but it's on the agenda for executive session yeah yeah absolutely in terms of not having a hard deadline of February 2nd part as uh Brenda said a couple of concern with Equity so if you think about a lot of our students coming from the inner city they don't always have the kind of support all kids don't have strong support sometimes from home and they make last minute decisions and they realize oh I missed the deadline or I really do want to go to Great Lawrence Tech so they struggle number one with the decision but then all of a sudden they get some support or help from somebody at the school so it's really really is has to do with making sure that all kids have equal opportunity to apply to the school and that's you know and I think that's so critical for when we're talking about eighth grade students who are not always your best students but sometimes a light switches late in the school year in the eighth grade and they realize oh geez I would really like to try to go to Gray Line detect so we just want to close the door to any students that that might make a last minute decision to apply when we want all kids to have that opportunity yeah well I'm I'm all for supporting every student um in applying um the reason why I brought that up is because I'm also concerned for the equity of those that did apply on time and how is that fair for those um that are English Learners and applied on time and someone who you know made a last minute decision well after the fact um how is it fair for those that applied on time but again they're worse there are some circumstances that um justifiably and valid in which I would understand which is why I didn't even I didn't pursue this conversation any further but I just wanted to make sure that I made a point in explaining how I feel for those students that are being responsible and parents that are being responsible that know off the bat that they wanted to uh enroll their their child in the school are providing the documents and I don't see how it's fair and Equitable for them well the truth of the matter is all right we have what we call Open Enrollment we don't have a hardcore deadline we've you know in the last few years we haven't had hardcore we went to open enrollment because we found that it was difficult for many students who wanted to apply when we did have hardcore you know February 2nd or or a date that was Hardcore that it left the door close to a lot of other students so a few years back we said we decided that we should have open enrollment because there are so many kids that would continue to try to make decisions what happens too is kids apply to other schools don't get in and then they have second thoughts about coming to Great Alliance Tech but um and so that's one of the reasons that we always had open enrollment so that I mean a lot of uh a lot of schools have open room colleges and other institutions have an open open enrollment just for the fact that they want to leave it leave the door open for all kids to have that opportunity and a lot of times we must have had quite a few uh applications after February 2nd this year I think over two or three hundred applications came in after that and we probably took in quite a few of those kids did get on either the wait list or um and I think that you're always um there's always those students that um would benefit from coming to Great Lawrence Tech that don't even realize it sometimes and they make that last minute decision so we try to I think it's just fair to everybody that lives in the community have that opportunity so that's why we went to open enrollment so no one's really late if they apply in May they're not really late they just didn't apply by the preferred time that we would suggest they should apply for the best opportunity to get in quick question when does um somebody kids in the Africa Windows should they start looking to apply for um to come in so right now our online application is not open uh we anticipate opening um that back up at the end of October it actually gets really confusing when um one rule one year is sort of rolling into the next and it doesn't stop so you're not sure sometimes if something someone is applying as a ninth grade transfer student which we're not taking or if they're actually submitting an application for a grade 10 transfer we also have to um upload our new admissions policy and and adjust that criteria so I do anticipate uh probably by the end of October we'll probably put some something out on social media we'll notify all of the the sending schools as well and it will definitely be um you know up and running prior to our open house on November 6th we also have a breakfast for the sending school guidance counselors where we give them a lot of information that we want them to share and articulate with the students before they apply because it sometimes can have an impact on the application itself what they put in the application foreign it just occurred to me um did the committee also have uh had any discussions regarding for us to potentially incorporate um us being a little bit more tech savvy um when it comes to the appeal process so I had asked go to CTE if they have that built into their their system for any of the schools that they serve and they said that they did not um and again it's you know it's I think it's really important to to think about the appeals process and what it's meant to be and what the spirit of it is and it should not be sort of just the next step in the admissions process when somebody's not accepted if somebody gets wait listed because we know that you know for the most part somebody's not going to get accepted because of the number of applications that we have and it's it's really just not like that next step to you know what do I do now um you know it shouldn't it should really be a very very limited number of of students and families that appeal um you know in in that process really you go through in conjunction with the middle school counselor or administrator somebody at the middle school who can verify that that there's a true extenuating circumstance it really shouldn't be so broad that it's sort of just a button that you you know click and go to CTE and then it goes on to the next step in the process um right after this this one sure cash balance report as of October 3rd 2022 the account balance on September 20th 2022 was 1031 000 270 67 we had deposits from September 21st to October 3rd of 2 million eight twenty nine four sixty five twenty four less payroll on September 29th of 979 362 26 and wallet number nine on September 27th of 850 149 spot 78 leaves us with the book balance on October 3rd 2022 of 2 million Thirty one thousand two twenty three spot 87 the corresponding bank balance on the same day of 3 million 646 881 10.
I'm originally from the East Coast New Jersey uh I first came to Ann Arbor as a student in late 90s I was at the time it was a snre now sees I also had after that I got a law degree at Lewis and Clark in Portland Oregon and I've been back living in Ann Arbor for the past like 15 years or so and over the years I've done work um with regulating uh utilities and other stationary sources uh related to air emissions [Music] currently live on the west side of Ann Arbor with my two kids who go to A2 Steam and welcome to all the new members so I can Echo other people's comments that is indeed honor and a pleasure working with all of you I'm really glad to tell you some of the new faces um bring some fresh new ideas and some diversity to the commission and it it's always almost astounding to me when I meet people in Ann Arbor how accomplished they are how interesting they are and I'm looking forward to working with all of the new members of the commission um and I think we have a great team so thanks for all that uh the next is the approval of the agenda can I get a motion and a second to approve the agenda moved by commissioner Colin Garcia and seconded by council member radina any comments or changes okay all those in favor of proving the agenda please raise your hand and say aye I anyone opposed it passes unanimously thank you next is uh approval of the minutes now the minutes are posted on registrar can I get a motion to approve the minutes also from commissioner Colleen Garcia and a second from councilman verdina any comments or changes proposed for the minutes hearing none uh all those in favor of approving the minutes please raise your hand and say I I want to post minutes are thus approved now we come to public input this is an opportunity for members of the public to speak for up to three minutes if you're watching on CTN please call 888-788-0099 or 877-853-5247 and enter the meeting ID 956-8718-7876 this information is also displayed as I said on the any background noises so that we may hear you clearly please state state your name and your address at the beginning of your comments don't don't currently have any hands raised okay now I do all right um caller ending in one three four thank you Mr Lang and chair mursky this is Ken Garber I live at 28 Haverhill Court um somewhat predictably I'm calling again about the proposed Village Housing Development these are the 484 units off duvern road with another 100 plus units to come later uh you'll remember that at your July meeting you passed a resolution urging the Planning Commission in city council to encourage all buildings at the Village to be fully electric no natural gas thank you for taking that action it had some effect the developer Robertson Brothers later agreed to Electrify the 164 single-family homes but the 320 Apartments will still use gas the Planning Commission approved the project last month and it next goes to city council uh the developer to its great credit agreed to meet with citizens about electrification of the rental units that meeting took place two weeks ago attending for the citizenry were Matt grokoff Doug Selby Jan Culbertson and Sarah Hammerschmidt all of whom have professional experience designing or building low and zero emission buildings Robertson Brothers entire senior management team showed up including the CEO there was an amazingly Frank discussion of the barriers to building electrification that this developer faces they had no concerns about the technology hire renter utility bills are not a major issue right now because current gas prices put electric heat pumps at near parity there was some worry about upfront costs and supply chain reliability but the biggest issue for them by far was our local electric utility DTE Energy in Robertson Brothers experience simply hooking new projects up to the grid can take a long time in one instance they built 10 homes and then waited a year for DTE to give them Electric just getting dte's attention can be hard and if more transmission capacity is needed there is no predicting when DTE will get around to making the necessary upgrades it's probably not surprising for a monopoly utility not to care but it means that electrification poses a major business risk for the village project it's not just the delays DTE charges large fees for electric upgrades in contrast DTE Gas hookups are fast and cheap 30 seconds by the way by the way I've heard that the Ann Arbor School District has also had to delay heat pump hookups until DTE gets around to making circuit upgrades from a climate point of view it's still insane for the village to go with gas full electrification should be mandatory for all new construction and this should be written into our city code but dte's dilatory behavior is a real problem I don't have an obvious solution except for City staff to bring up electric capacity at the very start of the review process so developers can bring DTE in right away Muni would solve the problem but we're still a long way from that color we're at time thank you seeing no other hands okay good um normally I don't comment but uh I'm going to comment in this case uh there is a Planning Commission meeting tonight and Mr Garber I would encourage you to call in to the Planning Commission and share the same observations with the commanding Planning Commission I'll remarket this time and also at the end of the meeting that we are hoping still to have a joint planning and energy commission meeting to talk about all of these issues related to electrification related to energy efficient construction and all the various aspects related to that uh and the opportunities that the city of Ann Arbor has from a policy perspective um and carrots and sticks to be able to promote sustainable construction so this is really a major concern and for those of you who remember commissioner how come I corresponded with commissioner who come on this very matter yes this this afternoon and he confirmed that this is a major issue that we have facing Us in Ann Arbor and it will be a major obstacle potentially to meeting our carbon neutrality targets so um we are now on to the main topics of our meeting and the first is a presentation of the greenhouse gas inventory for calendar year 2021 by Thea Thea I'll let you take things from here uh great uh can you all view my screen okay yes awesome um well thank you uh I am just going to introduce myself again for anyone jumping ahead and recording perhaps um my name is Thea Diego Leonard I'm an energy analyst with the city of Edwards office of sustainability um and I prepared Ann Arbor's Community toide greenhouse gas inventory for several years now and I'm here to present an update on climate pollution or greenhouse gas emissions associated with Ann Arbor for calendar year 2021.
so this override is in effect through fiscal 2027 but recall that pursuant to statute if we are if we do not renew that override it will decrease by one-third starting in fiscal 2025. so in 2021 again going back two years the override generated 32.3 million dollars and then in addition recall that the amino override is calculated based upon the prior year spend so in fiscal 2021 if you recall in 2020 we had a nice increase in student counts and that was reflected in that that 32.3 million dollars in budget capacity going into 21. it was in 21 that our student enrollment went down significantly and so when we reporting on 2022 you will see that loss that Ms matinin shared of that 1.3 million because we were calculating the override in 2022 based upon the 2021 student counts okay just to make sure that's clear I have a comment to make and a question um I think that probably so much of this is so very important to let the public know what we're doing um the first one that you did and then I know this is by law however if it with the 15 of the immuno override generating 32.3 million dollars in budget capacity if we did not have that we would have to cut our budget by 32.3 million dollars is that correct that is correct and I think that's really important for the public to know that um we have if we didn't have it then we would be looking at cutting a whole lot of of programs and things that we don't want to have to cut so it's really important that we you know and I I think the hardest part of that is having people understand why and it's you know School Finance is so complicated but I think if the more that we can talk about it and get it out there as to the reasons why I think it not just keeping existing programs and people I think it also Keeps Us competitive with surrounding districts most of the surrounding districts have a 15 percent override and this was our first attempt at it and we're very thankful that the public voted that for us and so in order to keep the standards high in Gilbert Public Schools we need to continue on with that from this graph that we did actually have that circumstance that you alluded to Mrs eugetti where we lost the the full amount of the 10 override at that time in 2016.
any question on the questions on the 40 request uh any questions on the monthly building administrator reports nope any questions on the meeting agendas no no before we go I just wanted to go over the our table here is a little smaller than it usually is has been like that for a few months so I asked Melissa today to come up with our attendance and I just want to let everybody knows we're all on the same page since May of 2021 we have had 18 board meetings and three special board meetings so out of those 21 meetings um the board I'll just list the board members and Alaska has attended 15 to 21. Patterson's attended 20 of 21. lions attended 19 of 21. keter is a perfect attendance 21-21 uh Bennett first attendance 21 of 21. Ballinger 13 of 21 and Pusha almost perfect so um where's our certificate Bob free McDonald's you can do that all right with that being said um I'll email this out to all the boys today the next regularly scheduled board meeting will take place on Monday November 14 2022 with full session beginning at 6 pm uh can I please have a motion to adjourn motion baby dog all in favor
