and out of bounds off of a belter town head and a goal kick for East Longmeadow Jack marrigan to take it American fires one past Midfield mark exits the playing field off of a belcher Town head and a throw in now freestyle metal on the far sideline just around midfield for Andrew Oliveri as he looks to find Shane Smith some quick ball movement at Midfield Zach Richard fighting for it now Smith gets beat and comes back to assist ball spits out and now Richard looking for press all and that ball is that pass is broken up by McDonald Richard again finds president finally president with a quick one touch pass to Smith and Smith can't make a play on it as Belchertown going the other way quickly Lockwood looking for Borelli broken up by Andrew Oliveri now Midfield Richard towards presnell prezzle find Smith Smith's got a little bit of Running Room to Richard Richard A One Touch out wide to Marion marrigan looking for Monroe inside Biggins heads it towards Marion and that ball exits the playing field four Subs coming in for Belford town score is still 2-1 in favor of the Orioles he's somehow looking to tie this one up hopefully come out with a win goldstown is still currently undefeated with their 8-0 and 3 record Marquez now torna ball spits all the way out and AJ Morgado has to come up with a save as Holt applied some aggressive pressure from the cross from Hill foreign Sky High punt lands just short of Midfield yeah not sure why no one's on that now he saw metal with possession Shane Smith out wide to Jack marrigan Marion with a good move to beat torna great by Jack looking for wretchen I really want to start to see East slow metal using the sides more and setting balls towards the flag they've done a lot of forcing it inside looking for Monroe and Fresno in the middle but they've really got to start to utilize the outside I mean that's the first time I've seen wretchen touch the ball in quite quite some time and he's been wide open so Biggins has to give a hefty clear as whole applied some aggressive pressure now Biggins on torna and Marquez comes in to assist yeah Biggins doing a great job defensively for East Longmeadow now McCarthy just gonna find Richard and he can't do much with that diascoli chest it down looks to make a play towards Monroe and now Shane Smith can't do much with it fall exits the playing field throw in and a quick one for Tyler wretchen Jack Marion gets bodied off the ball by Lockwood and a little Two Out Of Reach for torna and a throw in now for East Longmeadow [Music] Jack Marion with a throw in Just Around Midfield off the head of Monroe as Oldenburg went over his back and Joe Prezzo looked to chase it down as cleared out by Howells under 20 minutes remaining in the second half Belzer Town's still up 2-1 and a throw in for Belchertown on the far sideline howls lets it rip and off the heel of Shane Smith just around Midfield Joe press on a one-on-one battle with Borelli and he loses it as Hill clears Hill again we'll switch Fields this time for torna seems like there's gaps in the field for Spartans yeah a little bit messy I I can't seem it does seem like they're starting to run three forwards up top though they've moved fresnel up try and create a little bit more offense and a switch field for McCarthy goes off the back of the head of Richard Lucas trying to hold her laughs enough here I don't know why that's not very not very nice and oh the little Chip Shot yeah yeah that is and he'll bury it the back of the nut once again just a defensive breakdown and definitely miscommunication I mean goals like that that just it's really unfortunate those are the ones that just bring down your morale because it's just a little dribbler and a wide open net and those those sting a lot and that's gonna do a hat trick for Hulk we've gone from 12 to 15 goals for Jack Holt this evening as he puts Belchertown up 3-1 it's gonna be hard to come back Miss with 17 left islamo really wants to show what kind of team they are they'll do it within the next 17 minutes number seven yeah Shane Smith one on one with Weiss and a free kick for East Longmeadow not sure what was called there but a little bit of body contact I didn't see anything wrong with it Jack Marion with the free kick he's had some good ones so far this evening looking to capitalize on one of them as he sends it towards a far post would have liked to see maybe a little bit more of an angle towards the net yeah at this point play aggressively down two goals and devato has to chase down his own uh ball as the ball boys are playing patty cake right in front of us not really sure what's going on there could not tell you yeah devato gets ready to kick as Zach Richard exits the playing field he'll be replaced by Sam Hanley foreign off the head of presnell ends up on the foot of Oliveira Hanley Oliveira some good ball movement from East Long Mountain Midfield Joe preszell looks to switch Fields broken up McCarthy back to Smith the Biggins now out wide towards Marion marrigan a touch to some open space looks to make a move to find Monroe and Monroe's taken down on the play now Holt Holt doing a great job of using his body and he'll send a through ball totally offsides definitely looked off sides to me in a big body by Tyler wretchen on torna and he's gonna take a quick nap I hope he's not hurt not sure but it's soccer Bridges let's let's get used to it at this point I mean we've known this for years and the ball boy finally activated torno will be taking a free kick excuse me I think Marquez Marquez will be taking the free kick and he'll sign a far post looking for the head of Borelli and we are now joined by Kaylee lukasik I'm back again yep Thank You Bridget for joining us for 25 minutes of the second half and we'll be with Kaylee for the last 14.

legally we have to report out on the the most recent which is the voter approved 2019 or the repurposed 2019 authorization it was not a new authorization it was just repurposing existing bond funds that could not be spent in the categories that were originally assigned so um I can say with we are being cognizant of this in R22 proposal and being um flexible with um how we're putting our bullet points while we have a plan um we're not limiting ourselves on the voter pamphlet so the 2019 categories were are included right there I'm not going to go into each one of those but um I do want to cover how the full 2013 voter approved Bond was originally earmarked so that original Bond authorization was 70.5 Million um this is how it was originally earmarked in the pamphlet majority of the funds going to the 2016 school build of bridges um and then the district again repurposed it in 2019.

I point that out because our facilities are not k568 however that is a requirement but a sfb and that is how we have prepared the calculation so if the numbers don't look like our enrollment that's why based on the projections elementary and middle will not need a new facility in the next 10 years however the high school is projected to meet capacity in FY 32.

and the belchertown's still up 3-1 I mean Kaylee you've been kind of quiet over there but I've seen some of your you know my emotions yeah your emotions running through um you know what are you thinking so far the second half um I think their job offensively getting the ball combining a lot more which is good um it looks as if we're playing a lot to a lot of east to west rather than north to south um which isn't always the best but it's working for the most part um we've had a lot of set Pieces by marrigan a lot of great balls in um I don't know just a lot of miscommunication which is not helped us on our end so yeah that was definitely a problem early in the year I remember a game where they had some problems between uh the defensive line and morgato with some communication problems but um so yeah I'm not really sure what happened there in the last tough tough to see now this late in the season but a one-on-one battle now for Holton Biggins Holt chasing it down morgado's got to come all the way out of his net in a smart play by AJ Morgado to clear the ball and a throw in for Belchertown as some subs come in number six and number 20 for Belchertown Ian McDonald and CJ Rivers will check into the game and replace Borelli and torna have not seen too much of Ryan Richards or Josh Riley this evening I think they played a good amount of time we were in earlier in the game yeah but not much in the second half and a shot Dives to his right able to capture that one Belchertown hasn't really had a lot of shots on the net in the second half so yeah Nora's East Longmeadow but it's been a lot of play in the midfield for sure a lot of balls in the air it's like a ping pong match for the most part um some Metal's definitely done a little bit of a better job with ball control and stanky pose using their D um but still you know gotta start making things happen at this point with just under 12 minutes remaining you just gotta start being aggressive you gotta fire you gotta put your fastest players up top and you just got to start sending through ball after through ball after through ball and hopefully one will squeak through and uh you'll get a nice little open shot absolutely but other than that you can't be playing defensively right now down two goals and Mike Monroe chasing down howls and howls does a great job defensively and clears it to the foot of Oliveira Ben Biggins finds the foot of Hanley and Hanley I'm able to connect with presnell presnell now finds McCarthy McCarthy bit of a late pass to wretchen McCarthy picks it up again keeps it in bounds finds president at Midfield and now East longmeadows got to send some attackers once again right there I mean Eastland metal they had there's there's ten black shirts back there and there's three pink I mean like let's get going here I think we did a better than that than we did in the first half but we're just forcing a lot of things some good ball movement but you know we just gotta at that point just like you said there's a lot of East-West going on right now I would like to see some more north south yeah definitely Mr Freeman's gonna kick out of me over here I'm not really sure what I'm saying he's just saying the words I said earlier Joe praslow oh take over that did not look good oh maybe he's just being did you have flashbacks Kaylee yeah PTSD again spot one year ago today oh one year ago today oh okay so that was that's a touchy stop so maybe he blew outside Lockwood goes down on the play and able to get up on his own power and howls great service American has been having a really good game so far it's created a lot of movement up top which is really good he's made those runs down the line combining a lot which is always good and now wretched will send a through ball the preso and devato not really sure where that was going but good idea I like the north-south fly are you just gonna say hi from now on Valley you've said I like how you use the directional you know kind of to describe the way of the game I like that a lot so it's gonna be part of my vocabulary now thank you for that of course now at Zema loses the ball and wretchen we're just ripping a lot of balls on Monroe right now Shane Smith plays to presnell and now Smith finds the foot of Monroe and Monroe drops it back and Smith oh and a little bit of extracurriculars from Matt's email oh hey Chad uh I know you're behind me I'm sorry I kind of stepped on you there thank you for the popcorn by the way it was delightful it was also free all right here at elcat we get free popcorn I guess [Applause] no golf shop but it works in our favor so I was focused on the popcorn very good very good I think it was American got a little bit of a foot on it yeah pops it right home I mean they're high-fiving him so I think it or maybe his kick yeah but yeah Jack marrigan buries one in now East longmeadows only down one goal as the score is three to two in favor of Belchertown with eight minutes remaining I think in regulation it's okay yeah Jack Marion Barry's one and they're in a credit the assist to Zach Richard no oh who's number five I don't know I think they're moving American up top more he's created a lot of space and behind for us and a lot of movement so let's see if that gives us another goal to tie it up Andrew Oliveira Andrew Oliveri actually accredited with the Samaritan so we were both wrong sorry so I feel better about I mean yeah Andrew Oliveira with the assist American oh very good my number is some new to this that's why we're in honors calculus yeah not AP [Applause] lead cut down three to two American great Movement by marrigan and I like the play of moving Marion up top me as well and now ball spits all the way back to Patsy diascoli I think for Marion I think Patsy too has been having a really good game he's been a really key a key player to our defensive line I would say Biggins is right in there as well he's he's been locked down both of them in the middle for sure so far and there are some new faces in for East London I believe will Doyle in the game along with Samir so good to see them Biggins with the head ball Alex Richards at the sixth roll and now holding mid spot I think he would be a I don't know maybe that's just me but it makes a good Center back ance plays north towards Mike Monroe and ends up in the hands of devato great vocab 6 22 remaining in regulation El down 3-2 looking to tie this one up Doyle diascoli and Smith chasing down Borelli marrigan plays it back to Samir and belgertown quickly making their way Marquez to Holt towards the top of the box and a great step by Sam Hanley he's giving corn on his face looks the switch Fields towards the flag looking for Borelli and now another shot from Oldenburg that's good another three points this were football Belgium town would be up six nothing oh my gosh and ball boys now we got the parents involved with the ball boy problem Patsy diascoli set to take the kick sends it towards the foot of Shane Smith Marquez Doyle just gonna fire that one into the air and torna and marrigan in a one-on-one battle marry again foreign maybe it's not and if doesn't look to be our size and a whole that's pretty embarrassing that celebration buries his fourth of the evening I looked a bit offsides but I don't think the ref maybe it's just me I mean they're not calling him so and our student section clear is starting to clear out after that that one as we have reached the Hot Table final five quick quick promos no kind of kind of bad timing but uh we have reached the Hot Table final five so clearing out speaking of Hot Table what's your favorite Panini my favorite Panini you're just there we actually had a fundraiser chicken pot chicken parm no onions no Peppers okay so that's a bot sandwich um I if you ever want to try this people just listen to this real quick all right I think it's pretty good Chipotle mail uh-huh then you go I heard you guys got a secret but anyway cheese pepper jack cheese um then you go chicken spinach tomatoes pickles um mushrooms roasted mushrooms roasted onions and um yeah that's pretty much it I'm not very big on tomatoes or well tomatoes are um pickles pickles in a battle with Marquez and clear to torna Mike Monroe a one on five as he's chased down in a bit of a clothesline and he will get the call owls I respect that helping East long metal out there Hal's guy with a lot of class did he score all four yeah half all four goals this evening make 16 for this year we've gone from 12 to 16.

explains the super seven in the one game oh yeah Hanley goes down inside the Box Khan loses his footing and Holt doing a great job using his body and now torna firing up the sideline as McCarthy able to Shield off torn on Biggins clears to Monroe Marion to Stone and he'll switch fields for Sam Hanley but a little too much mustard on it promoting Hot Table hot mustard is not hot table I don't know what you're talking about he's just used to making paninis mustard mustard is is a is a saucy this is actually correction Italian sausage I mean what is the difference between the Hot Table I was saying that mustard is like a part of it I mean you could try these okay that's enough of the hot table top what is what's your favorite sandwich my favorite I already went over there Panini Panini I mean on the menu you can't go wrong with the southwest chicken you just can't you can't go wrong with the southwest chicken so that's true oh it's like anything chicken really true like you said I mean yours is the farm so yeah looks like they're just trying to keep it in the corner over there I always don't like when that happens towards the end of the game it's happened a couple times this year tour to us so yeah remaining in regulation Belcher Town up 4-2 looking to acquire their ninth win of the season and stay undefeated fruity who do you think your top three players of the games have been so far I mean free slime Mike Monroe has just been I mean he's got one of the goals tied it up 1-1 early in the second half and he's been he's just kept the intensity up all game long so definitely he's my number one Jack Marion is going to be my number two he's he's done a great job he's created some opportunities tonight and that's why he's been moved up top and American bit of a wrestling move RKO or yeah and uh but American will be mine and as well as probably I'm gonna have to credit three and four I'm gonna have to include a fourth because Biggins and diascoli yeah they're kind of equal tonight right there with you but I mean for Belchertown you can't Holt has just been unbelievable all four goals it's good again definitely a Powerhouse for Belchertown minute 15 remaining oh call him for the ball boys I mean these ball boys man that kid looks really young over there I mean yeah I last night we didn't have anyone that was not that was fun I should just skipped hockey practice just become a ball boy full-time ball boy if anyone wants to be our ball boy or ball girl tomorrow and he's Belchertown looking to kill a clock as islamo makes a last minute rush definitely man Stone looking for American and will go off the leg of the Belchertown player marrigan has to chase it down oh boy is not responding to that I'm not even gonna speak to the ball boys again bro goes out of bounds and devato won't even attempt to go get it finally the ball boy activated once again you should just put like a shock collar on him or something you know like shock them every time he's gotta go grab it that's enough foreign tough loss same result as last game another 4-2 loss for East Longmeadow and their record will become now four seven and two or three I think yeah so just some miscommunication caused us this game but hopefully they'll use that as a way to respond in the next game I believe their next match up is against minichog and that will be at minnichog so their next home game will be against West Springfield um that will be on the 18th of October here at seven o'clock so we saw metal suffers a defeat Against The Undefeated belter Town Belchertown be improves the record to 9-0 and 3.

2023 Capital plan as presented I will second all in favor I I motion carries three to zero eight point ten discussion consideration of approval of the 2122 Joe Combs Unified School District um annual financial reporting you are so lucky I know he's waiting for this all year long you've been waiting I know okay so action item 8.10 is the Arizona revised or Arizona financial reporting and our school level reporting it also provides you covid reporting as well as to think of the fourth one totally drawer blank oh Food Service AFR Okay so let's see if this works does not maybe if I turn it on there we go Arizona revised Statute 15904 does require that the governing board review and approve the annual financial statements we have to load these to the Arizona Department of Education by the 15th so thank you for all for being here tonight all right let's do a really quick recap of the maintenance and operation this is the funding we received from the state and the county our budget was 29 million 263 dollars and we spent 28 million 437 323 dollars so the nice thing is we are going to be able to carry forward the one million two hundred eighty thousand and yes I wish Bob were here when we break down how we spend that money I think it's a really great thing that we can actually show that salaries and benefits equate to 83 percent of all the money that we receive we make sure that this is getting into the hands of our staff that's 23 almost 24 million dollars out of our budget of 28 million dollars you can see Professional Services I will make a note that some of those services are for OTS pts or resource teachers that we've had to pull in because we didn't have them on our staff our regular education received about 68 almost 69 percent of the budget this is in line with what we've had before maybe a little bit lower our special education is a little lower in our transportation is a little higher but if you take into consideration the fuel prices during the last school year that accounts for some of it our classroom site funds show that we spent two million eight for our teachers and certified staff unrestricted Capital we spent a million five federal and state projects we had five million three and other funds would be six million five now other funds could be our Esser dollars that's where we're seeing a lot of that money being categorized those are really in line with what we have spent previously in those categories our bond expenditures I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on this one because I do have a presentation in the discussion on our bonds that you have to see but basically we have spent all of our first and second uh series of bonds the 2019 we have about a million seven left our school level reporting takes all of our AFR data and basically breaks it down into school levels those are attached to the agenda item it takes and allocates out based on student counts square footage meals served the number of ftes and then the ridership so that we can actually see what the expenditures are by sight we try to make sure that all of our accounting when we're doing procurement distinguishes a specific site and not a district level account so that we can make sure these are reports are as accurate as possible our food service AFR we started with a million basically a million dollars we had revenues of 3 million our expenditures were roughly 2 million with an ending balance of two million dollars with this grab my number you can see we served 166 000 breakfasts lunches were 510 000 then they're all a carton and the snacks we served about 23 000 each so the Food Service people were very very busy this year they like to snack this is from the covid report it's just one section of the quite lengthy report that we had to fill out this year but it does a really good job of summarizing what we received in sr1 sr2 sr3 Greer we did not participate in our enrollment stabilization and then other funds some of those other funds are benefiting our community ed our preschool programs but as you can see we have received approximately 12 million dollars just under in 2021 we spent four million of that in 22 we've spent almost 3 million so we have about five million dollars left it is basically sitting in ss3 I got to the questions section and uh you know I was looking at some of these numbers this is my first year to complete the full year with Combs and so I looked at some of these numbers and I was actually really surprised when I looked at it and said we spent 52 million dollars last year that's a lot of money 5.8 of that dealt with our bonds principal interest things debt services that we have to pay so that breaks it down to 46 million dollars that's a lot of money so I started looking at it because the question is always are we getting this into the hands of our kids and if you look at just the instruction goes directly to the classroom fund one thousand you look at our transportation to get our kids to and from the school and our food services which make sure that all of our kids get fed 61 percent of the budget was spent on those three items alone if you add in our support services our OTS our pts the any student services nursing health aides our curriculum staff eighty percent of our budget is spent that's directly impacting our kids the other highest percentage after that is ten percent for operating the plant well when you look at utilities or over a million dollars and we have to have safety we have to have the security we have to maintain all of our vehicles we have to do all these things I think it shows that that comes is doing a really good job of allocating and getting the money into the hands of the students or where it's going to best impact the students so that's my little personal opinion based on my first year are there any questions about any of the financials I was wondering um I don't want to throw you off and you don't have to tell me right now if you don't have the numbers but how are we doing on when we um brought in and we redid All the like um our state our our energy costs Energy savings yeah um I don't have that analysis but I can prepare that for you and get that to you well we've had a couple meetings with uh uh it's now Verity it was Mid-State when they first came on board and we're meeting uh all the projections that they're coming you know that they had planned ahead of time um and so again 700 000 a year in Energy savings uh that's offset by the debt services to pay for the least of the of the equipment but at this point in time we are supposed to have and actually it's gotten away from me because I think we've met in August we will try to get a report in November but there was no red flags or anything like that they were very comfortable with because remember there's a guaranteed savings there if they don't meet the savings and they're gonna they're gonna have to cut us a check yeah and so in that initial conversation that we had in August uh there was no concerns about them meeting or you know not meeting uh the targets they set so overall I'd say it's it's doing very well that's all yeah it's do you have any questions all right Mr Ray no questions okay I'll take a motion hey I'm motion to approve the 2021 2022 annual financial report School level reporting Food Service AFR and covid Reporting as presented I'll second that all in favor imotion carries three to zero all right um 8 11 discussion and consideration of approval of the jail Combs Unified School District hearing officer list of 2020 22 23.

uh yeah this is just a list of individuals that we could call upon to in the case of a hearing we have not had any hearings in my time in this District that's not on uh totally unique to this District several districts I've been in have had that we put the list just in case something comes up uh you'll see Mr hufford's name on there he is actually a practicing attorney we put him on there just in case there's a a more complicated situation that may be involved Dr duplicitous myself are trained we would not necessarily be used it could be a conflict interest I just put those on the name to give us flexible as much flexibility as possible given that you don't know what different situations could arise and so I would just recommend approval as presented and then that just gives us flexibility if we ever get in those situations to call on people to run the hearings and then it becomes more of an independent uh situation all right any questions go ahead I'll take a motion a motion to approve the list of hearing officers or student disciplinary hearing for 2021 22 as presented I will second and um all in favor aye I know he's he just texted me and said aye so we're good it's the five for the next two all right um a12 a motion carries three to zero um 812 discussion and consideration approval of the aggregate expenditure limit AEL resolution yeah this is a resolution coming from asba the gist of what's happening right now just the same as last year on the aggregate expenditure limit uh school districts in the state of Arizona will exceed the aggregate expenditure limit this year again it's the aggregate expenditure limit because unlike cities and towns or community colleges where individual cities or individual community colleges can go ahead and go to the voters to ask to exceed their expenditure limit school districts in the state of Arizona are aggregated together aggregate expenditure limit and if they exceed the only way we can get the go past the expenditure limit is uh to have the legislature uh vote by two-thirds majority to go ahead and let us succeed this is money that was allocated to school districts as part of the budget last spring and now they have to take the next steps dude if they do not go in and do this then they have until March 1st uh we would end up having to make the cut of approximately 70 percent of our budget uh up by April 1st there's some requirements for for public meetings uh it'll be a tremendous uh it'll be devastating for any school district I have to have it the resolution is asking the governor to go ahead and call a special session before the end of this current year uh the issue that comes up is since we had a legislature that passed this budget the belief is they should be the ones that would vote to give us the all school districts the ability to exceed expenditure limit and so that's why it's a special session before the end of the year because we'll see a new governor and a new legislature in January we believe that there's a very strong chance that that's what will happen but the continued pressure placed on by different boards and different individuals to try to get them to call that special session is critic Circle I can't express enough this is money that is already allocated to school districts it's just a matter of we can spend it if they do not approve it it does not go back in the general fund it can't be spent 1.3 billion dollars will just sit there it's not increasing taxes it's just a situation of because of a 1979 1980 uh the funding formula that was developed back then they put this cap on school districts as well as cities and towns and community colleges were just a little bit different than them and so now we have to do this exercise Mr Delaney had asked that that this resolution be put on and so I would go ahead and sub to the board but I would recommend approval of the resolution as presented yeah only thing I'm asking is that the letter B signed as the governing board as opposed to just the board president yeah I'll go ahead and make that change all right so if we don't have any questions you can make a motion a motion to approve the a resolution asking the governor to call a special session to address the aggregate expenditure limit AEL before the end of the year um all in favor I'm I'll second that all in favor hi hi and he has eye on this one he said Lex too so uh motion carries three to zero all right next items are information only um just discussion items so 9.1 information and discussion of the capital Bond expense report good evening once again so um ARS 15 481 and 15 491 requires us to bring you the capital Bond plan and this is just a review of our bond funds what I did is I prepared the bond series The 2017-18 and 19 sales and I summarized them in support of how the pamphlet went out to the voters so it talks about the renovations and improvements technology furniture and Equipment Transportation new construction at the high school new construction of the auditorium which is our CPAC and then the maintenance and transportation facilities as well as the new District facilities you can see that we've had a total budget of 36 million eight hundred thousand we have spent 35 million of that so far in each of the different categories you can see the balances remain in basically our Renovations improvements technology furniture and equipment I have a question isn't the technology doesn't the technology part have to be paid within a certain amount of time the furniture fixture and Equipment yeah we have to have done by the end of this year by December okay so the 156 000 has to be spent by December I thought it had to be paid back before like before the rest of it or it has to be spent by then we have the five years to be able to take care of FF e okay gotcha it's more it's more the spending than the payback the payback is part of Debt Service okay so it's a 30-year pay all right I knew there was a five year or something yeah any of the series there was three series that she spoke of before each of them once you sell that series of bonds you have a specific number of years to spend it uh uh within and that's the time frame of the five years okay okay so and just FY 22 every site received some benefit from the bond thank you to all the voters who passed this before I got here um but comes traditional received several things for their food service area their cafeteria new ovens new register stands fire head for the safety in the kitchen we did topography studies over at Simington and that also occurred at Harmon for the uh drainage issues that we are dealing with right now it comes Middle School we developed some or we worked on their cafeteria and gym floors Carmen we also had some concrete improvements Ellsworth we put in some air handlers the high school we added fencing we were repaired some bleachers and we also repaired it and upgraded some restrooms in the football and baseball area calm Center for success with the building of this building we were able to dedicate that specific site to them so we needed to make sure that they had furniture for their students and their staff we also need to make sure we renovated the water fountain over there one of the bigger things is the double-sided Marquees that the board approved that are at every single site and the electrical service as well as the fast Bridge software those are just expenditures from last year alone some of the other benefits from the bond I wanted to make sure that we highlighted we did get a new and larger facility for our transportation Fleet but we were also able to improve 20 new vehicles for the safety Safe Transportation of our students we received six 84 buses all the way down to two seven passenger Transit vehicles um I will note in there that two of them are also our special needs buses and buses are not inexpensive so I was really glad to see this number for the Combs Performing Arts you know we want to make sure that the bond not only benefits us but it's also a chance for us to give back to the community and the comes Performing Arts Center has had 123 days of internal performances alone that's our band dance drama Opera and it has presented presentations by not only the elementary schools but the middle school and high school as well we've had our online come Center for Success graduation there CTE nights there our Battle of the books njhs and Dr Wyman holds our convocation there as well in FY 22 we had 39 different rentals that totaled 92 days from outside organizations this allowed us to bring to the community and our own individuals ballet dance music and drama presentations district-wide the bond is also of course presented us with this facility our transportation facility but has also benefited many of the buildings in our own District the projections for this year with the remaining 1 million seven right now stand to be applied to our Bell systems to ensure that all locations are compliant and running and smoothly our camera systems which I know that there was a question in regards to safety previously we're going to make sure that that's taken care of with a good portion of the funds the drainage resolutions at Simington and Harman we've also added some weight room equipment and seating over at the middle school we've got some floor work over at the high school and then ctea has some Fiber work that's going to be done that leaves about a hundred and some odd thousand dollars I will tell you I've already received requests for those so we will be finishing the bond in this school year are there any questions about the bond okay thank you okay so we'll go to the next uh discussion let's see here discussion information on student achievement the October report all right good evening Madam president members of the board Dr Wyman and Mr Costa we have a couple updates from the curriculum instruction and assessment team for you tonight uh the good news is that they are relatively short and the better news is you don't have to listen to me so um I'm going to turn it over to Dorsey to share a little bit about our October professional learning opportunity and then uh Miss Dunwoody also has a little bit of our student achievement data to share tonight good evening my name is Dorsey Meadow I'm the professional development coordinator for the district and we're just going to go over a little bit of what um we do in professional learning and then hit a spotlight on the latest PD day which was actually Monday so if we can just advance that where's the so great turning it on there we go okay the professional development department actually serves the CIA and the school district and we help support many areas in curriculum instruction obviously professional learning we lend a hand in assessment as well and um we try to fit the need of everybody across the district the best that we can so in our department we seek to the needs of most of our certified staff and our team actually develops and facilitates most of the learning that we have there although every now and then we do bring in an outside facilitator we provide multi levels of support and we start with the beginning of the year with onboarding and welcoming new people and then we continue the 10 the trends throughout we try to make sure that any of the learning that we offer in our PD sessions are connected from one event to another streaming that golden thread all the way through for our Learners our adult learners so this is just a broad view of a small snippet of what we have with professional learning with the district-wide professional learning days we have six a year where the certified staff come together and they learn together in professional learning days and those professional learning days might have a little bit of professional development inserted in them and what does that mean professional learning is when professionals come and they learn together with each other in professional development might be a little bit of information around a product or a process in for instance how how to use fast Bridge versus what to do with the data in fast bridge then we also come down to a smaller learning piece with our site PL our site PL might um it's one it should be about one day a month it could be driven by our professional learning or our coaches as well as our principals and what their goals are there and it's typically related to The District goals and then our coaching is a smaller more concise view it's targeted it's daily our instructional coaches on our sites help with that as well as our content coaches and as you can see there it's around classroom management PLC teaching and coaching with best practices of instruction and planning today we're going to focus a little bit more directly on our district-wide professional development day that we had on the 12th so just to kind of give you an understanding of the structure of this slide and how we've been running our professional development days for the past couple of actually for the last two years is we launch with our teams together and then they go into breakout sessions kind of like in conference style and then they come back together and we make connections with what we've done from the beginning of the day to the end so I that graph there is actually current so a big portion of the day 60 of the day is actually spent with our teachers being able to go to classes that are related to the district goals but they actually have a choice of the classes that they're going to attend so this gives a little bit bigger of a breakdown of what we have with the choices that we had we tried to break it up with a little bit of a balance of what we're offering our teachers because our teachers kind of have to be um masters of everything right so how do we use some of those programs and tools and then how do we help them get even sharper with their with their craft their of being a practitioner of practice and then what do they do with those so our program and tools session those are the classes that we offered in that area around ST Math which is a program that we use in the district with our k through eight students and then also using data in illuminate which is essentially finding that data in illuminate and then looking at that data closely and then looking at what we're going to do with that with students our backstage craft piece is actually geared to developing what our teachers are doing giving them skills and knowledge around unpacking standards identifying success criteria and um foreign goals and then also introduction to rigor and relevance which is going to be a series that we move forward with which was really a focus on what the cognition or the development is around blooms and then what that relevancy looks like for kids and that was actually the first of a three-part series and then we also had sessions around rceu planning which is around um which is classes that we offered for our speech and language Pathologists and helping them sharpen their skills around their areas so that that backstage craft piece is really essential for our forward goals which you can see the classes that we had um offered in those areas and those forward goes are directly related to um what we're doing with modern teacher and elevating the opportunity for our students to own their learning so this piece offers the transparency of learning for our teachers that are new to the district or any staff member that's new to the district and understanding those eight essential elements of creating a culture where students own what they're doing and takes them from compliance all the way to empowering what they're doing in the classroom packing standards with students is sharing that learning so they understand what they're going to do and then that building learning plans and advanced learning pieces offers an opportunity for students to enter the world of Blended learning where they can have choice and voice around how they take content practice that content and show what they know and then that final piece there is another area of an um instruction that we offer for our teachers where that is essentially around the learning environment and creating a optimal learning environment where we're using that time and space well whether it's effective pedagogy high level practices or structuring that learning block or trauma-informed practices we offer we try to offer a lot of variety for our people so kind of breaking down with the key data did you have a question real quick when you when you're asking when you break out do you already did they sign up for these classes like you know how many people are coming to those classes or do you do it the day of we actually um have them register for the classes and if they don't register we send a reminder and then if somebody doesn't get the chance we try to register for them okay okay that's a great question so here's our data um so these are all the classes and the populations that they took so if you guys will see in this chart the first number is the number of people who took a class and then the class title so we had 285 participants 17 classes over 34 sessions for the day foreign most of our sessions were 180 or were 180 minutes so that's a really long time no more like 80 minutes and then we had two classes that were a little bit longer and they were a deeper study for 160 minutes and then our participants came together at the end of the day where they had the connections piece and this connections piece was geared towards taking the first item that we had for the day which was a guest speaker for trauma-informed practices and taking that SEL piece and then connecting it with the learning that the teachers had in the middle of the day and then looking at what is their role in being a champion for kids and so now we're looking at our participant feedback and we're and we're seeing what we can do to offer support on our campuses in in a smaller setting whether it's with plc's in small groups or teachers as individuals and helping them Implement that stage of I just learned something new how did I I Implement that in my classroom and feel successful about it so those are our next steps might you have any questions for me no okay there's more information in your in the slideshow if you want to look at some of the classes and descriptions that we offered thank you good evening today I'm just going to be briefly discussing some information we have on our gifted testing so what I was able to do a few weeks ago is I was able to get recommendations from our sites and in some cases from parents who are interested in having their children gifted tested so here in Arizona we are required to identify students who have giftedness and apply appropriate educational opportunities to those students so we tested about 56 students this go around we'll do it two more times in addition to a screener for all second graders so that is separate from our two additional times that we'll be providing this and of those students we were able to get about 12 percent of those 56 students were identified as gifted so they will go into the gifted cluster and they will receive those gifted educational opportunities at their sites with other students who are gifted in those classrooms they'll have some chances to do some extension work some rigor in what they're working on in their classes so as we move forward we will again offer these more opportunities hopefully we'll get a little bit more involvement now that we've done it once and people know what it is we go out to the sites and do the testing and then in spring when we do our screener for second graders then that will move into a full testing for those students who pass the screener so any questions about gifted testing all right I will wrap us up here for the CIA updates um just really want to complement all of our coaching staff and the work that was done for that PL day I think you get the gist of how complex it is to put together a day like that and how long it takes um and then in terms of the gifted testing I do want to share that that's an area that we're focusing on right now um the acceptable Norm usually for for giftedness is around eight percent um we're not at eight percent as a district so we're really trying to seek out ways to identify our gifted students to make sure that they're getting the services they need so it's a piece they're looking at a couple of upcoming topics for next month we'll have some updates with major Clarity and some data that's coming out of that next time high school Benchmark testing results will come in the next meeting I will do our high school and actually probably our Middle School course guide presented to you next meeting as well to get that approved for registration and then we'll be launching our curriculum adoption for math we'll have some updates for that next time there's anything we've missed that you want to hear about please let us know so we can put together for you but any other questions for teaching and learning good luck okay so um last 9.3 discussion information of changes on changes to policy recommendations asab asba policy advisory 737 first reading so the first reading I guess I'm going to ask you what we think what you think highlight right this this one this one I I could have squeezed it into the second reading but it would have been really complicated what you're going to find with this one basically they placed out some changes within one of the one of the policies um uh in the in the ones that you approved tonight uh it was brought to their attention that there were some concerns about the way it was being presented uh it's really the the policy jail CB which is is based on required immunization so they basically did an overhaul so you approve something tonight to turn around and make a second read to change exactly what you did tonight now the changes in the formatting perspective and and for some clarification um so it's not like there's substantially anything wrong with that policy but they've decided that they felt that it it aligned more and some of the detail was moved to the regulation which you do not approve again from a Stucker who's new the board is responsible for policy uh changes and approved policy changes Administration is responsible for regulation and Exhibits we have to share them with you matter of fact you uh all the leadership team as well as the board will get a memo from me tomorrow morning with all the regulations and Exhibits that were changed as a result of your recommendations this morning or this evening so I just tell you that because just note that you may look at it and say well wait a minute I thought we did something in the last one and now we're making a change and it's really just a moving of things around uh substantially the same but more in the regulation and and pulling the policy down but I kept it out just because that would have confused everything so we'll do first read and then second reading in November perfect any questions okay does anybody have anything that they want to request for future agenda items no I have nothing at this point so um I am going to make a motion to adjourn the meeting a second all in favor I mean leave okay he texts me I we're done motion carries three to zero at uh 7 41.

[Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] everybody's here I called to order the workshop for Bullhead City Elementary School Board on Thursday October 13th at 5 30 PM roll call Cory Burgess here Amanda Amon here Charlene Diaz here Anna Boyd here Melinda here all present thank you um item 1.3 uh canine search demo presented by Sergeant Kelly McCool uh with Mohave County Sheriff's Department sergeant yeah what a good looking boy first of all what's the dog's name and everybody's like look at the dog can you sit sit cheers thank you so I'm Sergeant Kelly McCallum County Sheriff's Office I work at a kingdom primarily there's another deputy there named Kevin ganoe he has a canine as well we have a canine down in this area he's in the Havasu Mojave Valley area Fort Mohave we're hoping to add another canine beer soon we think we may have a candidate hopefully and then we have one more canine India's up on the Arizona Utah strip so he's not really accessible for you guys uh this is Chase he is a Dutch Shepherd he's six and a half years old and I've had him for five years uh Chase is what we call a dual certified dog so he's certified not only in Handler protection or apprehension tracking things of that nature Patrol functions he's also certified in a detection of Narcotics he's currently nationally certified in the protection of marijuana methamphetamine cocaine and heroin every year they do a national certification in fact this is coming up in November and he'll get recertified in that which comes in handy whenever we have to testify and forth and whatnot um iPad Chase from right at five years when I got him again had a lot of skills he was real good at eating food dispensing that food and making Messes in the house he's come a long way I have two it's my first dog I've never had a police canine before in my career so it's been a big challenge to learn as much as I can about him and through that time I got to pick up a lot of the cues that he has and whatnot each dog has different behaviors as far as their indications alerts things like that so one of the things I'm going to do for you tonight or probably the only thing I'll do for you tonight is in the room I've been some narcotics I understand that's becoming a big problem in the school I think it was a big problem I think it's become magnified I know our districts have seen that in in Kingman and I think a big part that's probably the legalization of marijuana just made it that much more accessible so what we've done in Kingman we've done it here we've done it at the high school here in Bullhead uh Mojave accelerated learning we've done some some Snips there and whatnot the river there's a River Valley High School down in Mojave Valley we've done some sniffs there and whatnot and what we've done is we'll bring the dogs into the school we make sure we don't buy light any fourth Fourth Amendment search and seizures there's a really good case law it's called Portland versus uh Goose Creek if you want to look that up and what that is is in the 70s there was a very big drug problem in Texas and they brought in dogs and let dogs go through the classrooms and and that that case law was Horton versus Goose Creek and let the dogs go through the classes while the students were in the class some students sued the uh police department and the school saying hey you violated our fourth amendment that's unreasonable and one of the instances one of the girl talked about she had a very big fear of large dogs she's taken a French test and the dog is sniffing coming around the class and sniffing in her feet and things like that so to avoid any of those complications what we do or what we have done in the passes we'll go to a school and they'll have all the kids leave a classroom and leave their items and we'll run the dog through the classroom that way it's not a sniff of the person it's a sniff of the area we run around cars like at River Valley High School we've just run them through the parking lot so they can sniff the cars the amazing thing about the dogs is that because of their ability to smell it's sometimes up to ten thousand times stronger than ours they're able to locate and search a big area quite a bit faster than we could if we would open personal food we use them a lot for building searches if we're going to clear a building because they can smell a person so much better and their ears work so much better and whatnot so they're a huge asset to us hopefully we'll add a couple more of the the Big Challenge right now is to try to find handlers that are that are dedicated and uh can handle the responsibility we we always ask our guys for at least a three-year commitment but once you get a knucklehead like this you don't really want to leave him after three years yeah so these guys go to right around nine to ten years of age it just kind of depends on the amount of service that they see in the amount of wear and tear that they see so far all of our dogs have been really healthy uh what's the worst thing you've had buddy don't be shy man of many words right there um when I first got him he had a cut on his paw he actually had ringworm which was really where really rare and uh he actually had like a tick disease you're like a train wreck I didn't even know it let's take it back to the car dealer you're a lemon you think about that he's been good he's been extremely healthy he's done really well for me uh We've we've worked with our drug interdiction forces and and quite a quite a few other agencies and whatnot because he is certified in marijuana you see in a little bit less use some agencies don't want to use them because of marijuana being legal you don't want to infringe on somebody's rights to have something legal so there's a very big process to go through to be able to use them but what I'm gonna do with him tonight is uh Chase does everything for a toy or for play that's all he cares about is playing so you may see it you may not I have a toy on my person it's under my armpit he knows that it sits next to my driver's seat he can see me through his back cage and when I take that toy out his attention immediately knows what we're doing it's kind of a cue to him that hey we're going to go search for drugs he couldn't care about drugs all he knows is that if he smells it and he does an indication to let me know that he smells it in a specific place his toy just magically drops out of the sky it's like the greatest thing it's like a Christmas morning in presence Paul so um I I was down here they'd have they each have some individual behaviors that they uh that they pick up and whatnot have you guys ever heard of Pavlov havelock's dog he has developed a very specific reaction like that sometimes these guys will get frustrated we got really watch their behaviors their change of behaviors and sometimes if he's searching and searching and searching and searching he's not finding he might go forget it I know if I scratch dad drops a toy and he'll just start scratching something well like Pavlov's dog when he gets into odor he starts to salivate real heavy and voluntarily because his mind is holding this is when the when the toy comes so he's learned to associate that it's really a neat response all of our dogs minus the dog that's in the Mojave Valley Lake Havasu area or what's called an aggressive alert aggressive indication and what that means is they're trained to scratch when we get our dogs when we teach them to indicate for us we kind of go with our natural inclination some dogs want to put their nose on it and just sit real still and our trainers have trained them to just sit at that point to let us know to indicate it was one of the ones that as he smelled it he's trying to claw it and get at it so we just let him go with that natural information so he's what we call an aggressive indication so in this room I hid something if I'm going to do a search with him I'll let him see his toy he knows what we're doing I put it under my arm thoughts make sure he's laying down start showing him areas that I want him to search and whatnot his mic on it might come right by you don't pet him don't worry he's not going to grab you hopefully I'm just giving you something we've only lost five arms that way but you know we're not going to go with six anymore but I'm gonna show him what I wanted to search I'm going to take his leash off if you can see him a little bit he starts to shake a little bit because he's excited I've known that right now as soon as he gets to that area now he's stopped and now he's taking closed mouth breaths I know that that's part of his alert is that that change of behavior alerts me to the owner now he's putting his nose in the general area they don't always pinpoint but as he gets his nose in that area and he starts finding it he should start scratching at some point okay [Music] that's all we care about getting the toy come here pause see it oh watch so we'll see if he's right he usually is so I get methamphetamine and marijuana he's usually right and now his toy which he loves he gives it back to me I don't let him have the toy continuously because if he has a toy all the time just like kids that have cell phones or any other toy it becomes old cat instead he gets in a very short amount of time he has to give it back and that's why he is so excited about it whatever it is and again he sees the toy that's all I want opposed pose Plus you can keep it away from me I mean that you know we gotta we gotta make sure you don't lose that leg I got you oh hey you got the dog slime my wife washes my clothes at the end of the day I train and she's like what is that yeah I promise and he's happy again all right guys so that is Chase our Wonder mud do you guys have any questions for me or anything oh you dropped it that's your problem so he's a he's a drug dog he is a drug dog and also a patrol dog yes ma'am can he be used to find vaping in the classroom as long as it is uh a lot of The Vape stuff is uh um narcotics based because it's based off marijuana so yes same thing as long as it's made of one of those elements you know it has marijuana cocaine that amphetamine or heroin in it which vaping is a directive depending on debate cannot now we do have some dogs in Arizona our next dogs will probably not be uh certified on marijuana but we hope they will be certified on fentanyl because that's our huge problem right now it's becoming a worse and worse problem they just saw Navajo County is it last night a deputy shot the car got the two people out of the car and uh went to search it dude and the drums back in the driver's seat takes off leaves the female lets his passenger they became her chased the car for three miles guy bails they finally find him and they get one and a half million dollars of technicals in the park it's just coming up it's coming up from across the border and it's just coming up in huge huge amounts yes our kids right now but we do know we have a vape marijuana issue so they've been marijuana that's why we wanted a demo because our our middle school and our uh junior high would would like some assistance sure so if you guys need us to come or want us to come you can either email me or you can contact me through my office the Sheriff's Office number is very easy it's 928-753-0753 and they can put you through to my extension and leave me a voicemail for your wife too or you can email me my email is Nick cook kind of my last name Nicole but McCook mojave.com you know um uh Black Mountain is a school that I've been to a lot in uh in Golden Valley because they're having a huge problem as well the kids are smart on this too just so you know the kids have now figured out I don't know they figured out that we can't sniff the kids actually but they don't lose stuff in their backpacks anymore so it becomes a bigger chore as we sniff the lockers we can sniff the plastic as of yet we have yet to find something which is good but we know the problem is there so we just figured they'd just count smarter than the gap yep any other questions or anything from you no okay well we appreciate it thank you very much oh my God thank you thank you guys oh there you go chase is on the case my nephews are big Paw Patrol so when it's chased by Mike cell phone people if only high school kids were that easy like their cell phones [Laughter] maybe but that was quite enlightening that was incredible yeah all right okay moving on it's gonna be a tough act to follow up yeah that's why we put it first yes we did we did we didn't put it at the end to be your toy right yes yes that sounds good all right moving on item 1.4 regulation ebcra emergencies new and EBC RB emergencies renamed abcrc emergencies new Dr Stewart Mr President and board members so I'm not sure you're recalled but we talked about policy EBC last month or the month before one or the other and realized that we only had one regulation it had to do with first aid and there are a lot of other emergencies going on so I had Cass search uh policy bridge for other districts to find out what else might be there that we might need so these two I thought were really important just the one that verifies that we set up our emergency plans which all of our sites do and then the other one that um CE BRB is ours just renamed and then cast what is the RC I don't remember oh and just the general guidelines so uh we just thought these were a couple of good additional regulations for us to formalize things that we really already do and since these are all three regulations um unless you have changes that you want to make they are on the agenda tonight they don't require more than one reading for approval so this gives you an opportunity to tell us if you want anything changed any questions on item 1.4 5 policy jlcb immunization of students and glcbr immunization of students Dr Stewart well things happen and last month one of the things that came from the policy advisory were changes in the immunizations and then in so it would have been on them on the board agenda tonight as a second reading but they made some additional changes this month so this is now I will be on it is on the agenda as a first reading tonight and then the regulation will be on next month when when we have the second reading there's no point in approving or regulation when you don't have the policy approved yet so it is annotated for the changes that they are recommending any questions on 1.5 1.6 regulation kdbr Public's right to know and Freedom of Information and uh Mr President board members this is similar uh this is this came out in the past month with some additional changes so this is just regulations so it will be for Action as well any questions no and it's more of a you know it's the procedure in and how people how parents and families can recommend our request uh the information okay item 1.7 policy JD jldab referrals and other to other agencies regulations jldbr referrals to other agencies exhibit jld Abe referrals to other agencies uh Mr President and board members vote most folks refer to this as Jake's law and so this gives us some additional authorization and procedures for recommending students getting some assistance for emotional and those kinds of issues we all know that our kids have some baggage and certainly more baggage now since the pandemic than they had before so it's very nice to make it a little easier for us as schools and particularly for teachers and counselors to be able to recommend to families some additional assistance and make it easier for kids to get that assistance any questions okay moving on to item 1.8 governing board cell survey Stuart well this one's really up to you there's a summary here for you of uh or you received I'm sorry a summary of your self-avail and it's an opportunity if you all want to talk about yourselves as a board [Laughter] anything that stood out as peculiar or uh he'd mentioned is this available for the public it was not but um we thought you all ought to see it first but if you want to make it available to the public we certainly can do that I think we should um so we can know how we feel about ourselves right um I think I think one of the things you could I think one of the things you can do is direct Cass uh when she writes the minutes to attach it to attach it as a public document in minutes and that way it's available for the public to see anyone have any issues with that no I think that'd be great okay that's good all right let's do that so directive even though this isn't really an action thing but uh but still I think you can you know you can just say hey let's make this available okay all right uh 1.9 um it occurred to me that y'all might want to see kind of where we were with all of our projects uh Cass if you'll put that PDF up please Yep this one so uh we have lots of things in the works now I will tell you that many of these things are Esser related you know related to that whole project and we have a whole lot of other things that were not projects that have already been accomplished with Esser funding so uh you know things like uh Promethean boards and um tablets for some of our sped teachers and some equipment for our health offices and those kinds of things so those were more purchased items than they were projects so these are our current projects and it includes both Esser projects and regular budget our capital budget projects so the first one you remember are huge uh our huge sewer project next door that is complete and so I thought this was a good way for us to kind of keep track of when things start and how they're proceeding the Diamondback entrance project a good bit of that work is done all they're doing is waiting Redmond's is waiting for the metal frame the new metal framing and it's extruded metal so they're waiting for that to be manufactured as soon as it arrives they take out the old frame put in the new frame put in the glass Us in the doors that's like a Friday Saturday project so it's it's about half complete and it's just kind of on hold waiting for the materials the Ada access at Fox Creek no one bit no one bit on that and we've learned that none of the elevator companies want to do those elevators because of course they are for folks with handicapped conditions and they've been sued a lot so we're going to be revisiting that plan and try to come up with a new way for that to work um Transportation the the cover for the fuel um excuse me for the um fuel tanks and whatever we have we have all of the stuff here we're waiting on City Engineers to approve installation um the restroom remodel in the big building is complete awesome the other is on hold rather simply for me to find more information for you all and get some quotes and some prices for you the den project you can see that's our longest longest one planning out you have some action on tonight's board meeting to move that forward since we've decided to do it as a a development kind of project as opposed to pieces and uh so the RFQ the request for qualifications document which is about 30 pages long is with the attorney right now he has said he will have it to me next week you know to for us to put out pending your approval of those other documents tonight and uh HVAC project 61 units I think they have about 10 or 11 in the week of Thanksgiving they plan to come those first three days and put in a lot of them we don't know the number exactly but I'm guessing more than half so that'll be moving along very quickly the week of Thanksgiving carpet replacement we haven't moved a whole lot with that but because we were doing the samples in the room the music room at Bullhead middle school and some classrooms up at Fox Creek but that those seem to be working well so we'll be moving on that um fire panel replacement it was a good thing that we had this in our plans although we far underestimated because it isn't really the pain just the panels being replaced as it turns out we will be replacing fire systems at all Sites except sunrise so uh we're paying some out of the grants and Jenny Beck has done a great job of submitting them to our to the sfb although that's not what it's called anymore but they've approved the others so uh this will these will be moving forward the hold up is going to be that we want them all to have Digital Phone connections to fire department and 9-1-1 and whatever that module is not available right now anywhere in the U.S so they all get all the wiring in they'll get everything all set up and and we'll do everything we can to have them going except for that little piece so there'll be a hold up on this and we're working closely with the fire department because it means that at our sites where the fire alarm systems are not working when people are on campus we have someone dedicated to be walking campus the entire time to make sure we don't have any fires so a kind of a complicated system security cameras are here and they're being installed we hope that that will be completed by winter break and then we have determined that our weakest point on all of our campuses we've determined where that is I'm not going to say it because we don't really need that out there out there for folks but fencing is a big issue so we're going to be focusing a lot of our Capital fund processes and projects on fencing where we need that done for security of our campuses um and then the weakest entry in our district is the entry at the middle school you all have been there you know you can walk in that front door and you could walk anywhere on campus without anybody knowing you're there and so we already have uh bids for putting a a second wall a wall inside and directing traffic into the office we would still have a fire exit and and all of that kind of thing but that would increase the security of that campus significantly so that will be that will be a project that I'll present this the details to you next month so and that's kind of where we are awesome I do like this spreadsheet it makes it easy to see where we're sitting the things I thought you might I'd been thinking about it for a month or so and and I thought man it's so much easier for me if I have a visual um and also to keep in mind what all of our projects are you know because we've got a lot of them and and it's easy to start focusing on one and then kind of forget about the others and not keep track of those so uh yeah so I found this actually this was a template in Excel and I thought oh I'm going to steal that and I didn't steal it but I mean you know use it because it really is a visual and I like visuals a lot so I thought you might appreciate that too and then I can you can see that column five is the one highlighted because that's this month I put the the months down at the bottom and so each time we can you know we can focus on where are we this month in each of these projects so I thank you for the good feedback on that I appreciate it maybe we can get something like this with all those repairs that were behind on oh my goodness I will tell you we'd have to have right now we'd have to have 1400 lines but we'd at least know the board would know where we're at we would know where we are at my site maybe we could maybe do that yeah this is how we're coming up yeah so we do see that progress Absolutely I'll work on something like that and work with Mark on it I will tell you that we hired a plumber today and uh yeah and uh he's going to be really busy and of course our HVAC person is really busy already but um uh I the other thing I will tell you is on Monday when they all started and the the two new Vans and the other van that we're converting to be used I went over to see uh I actually went over to see how they were set up in the office over there and you know how Market got in the office set up and and that kind of thing and I pulled up I was going somewhere else so I was driving I pulled up and I got out of the car I I will tell you that I was blinded by the smiles on the faces of the maintenance people and Mark they were so excited about the the new tasks you know not so much new tests but the new assignments and those kinds of things and that was real fun to see they've been and they've been busy this week let me tell you they've been busy so they're liking it so we've got some updates on how we're coming on all this absolutely we will have updates we're only we're only three days in four days in so I don't have a lot of updates for you today but um but yeah next month we'll have a we'll have a real good handle on where we are any other questions all right we need item 1.10 motion to adjourn the workshop I'll move that we adjourn the workshop Amanda Eamon I'll second that Charlene Diaz all in favor aye Corey Burgess aye Amanda amen aye Charlene Diaz aye Anna Boyd I'm Melinda sabrowski Summit we are adjourned all right it is already six o'clock so don't get too comfortable we are going to uh get right into our regular meeting good James all right sorry okay I call to order the regular meeting of the Bullhead City Elementary School Board on Thursday October 13th at 6 p.m uh roll call Corey Burgess here Amanda amen here Charlene Diaz here anna Boyd here Melinda sabrowski here all present if you please join me for the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty citizens president if you please sign in in the back uh call to the public this is the time the public may speak to the governing board regarding issues within the jurisdiction of the governing board and subject to reasonable time space and manner restrictions as the governing board May establish comments will be limited to three minutes per individual unless specifically waived by the governing board at the conclusion of the College of public individual members of the governing board May respond to criticism made by those who address the board may ask the staff to remove review a matter or may ask that a matter be placed on a future agenda however the governing board cannot take action on matters that have not been noticed in advance as part of the agenda we have just the one called the public today Jason Valdez yes how you guys doing this evening pretty good um so we had an issue when my son Angel Valdez that the fentanyl problem that's going on in the school and what is being done to resolve that issue because now I know it's coming like in candy forms and uh you know my son he's like well you know Dad I really don't know what to do you know kids I'm scared they're gonna like put stuff in my bag of lunch like the other day he was at school and they went in his bag and they threw everything out of his bag and he's always Dad I don't even know who touched my lunch like somebody was just in my lunch and touched it it was gone and I was like what he's like yeah that was just like two days ago then um I know today there was an issue with the gun like a girl came to school she was threatening to shoot the school that was my issue I heard that's what my son said I want to say thank you guys for having that stopped you know um that was that was a good thing but uh also the issue with the fentanyl is there like anything else we can do to like maybe put a dog on campus I think we had talked about that talked about you know with the principal and I guess that kind of like violates people's rights or territory or there's some type of law that protects that so I don't know what do you guys haven't planned to kind of like keep the drugs out of this school any issues that you guys know the result the only problem is it's not an agendized item so we can't it is so we can actually just later okay um but we did have a workshop earlier where we had the Miami County here with their dog uh some of these questions did come up yes um but we will be discussing this one I think eight one it's coming up yeah yeah we can actually discuss it then we can't discuss it now though oh okay not a problem okay all right we appreciate it okay no definitely thank you guys so please thank you stick around for eight one yeah it might be a little bit but thank you for that yeah all right uh item 2.6 adoption of the agenda do we have a motion to adopt the agenda I'll make a motion to adopt the agenda and avoid second Melinda sabrowski all in favor aye Corey Burgess I'm in Eamon aye Charlene Diaz aye Anna Boyd nice I'm Melinda sabrowski so I moved item 2.7 donations uh we'd like to thank all those who have stepped up and donated for our schools again once again as they always do uh Safeway donated gift cards value to forty dollars Sunrise received a donor's Choice donated two classroom projects valued at 391.38 cents an anonymous donor donated 500 Nikki School parent communication folders by 725 dollars uh Switzer engineering Laboratories um Kara Vincent V donated a hundred dollars our community is fantastic about stepping up and helping us in all these ways and it is greatly appreciated uh thank you so much okay item 2.8 superintendent reports Dr Stewart uh Mr President and board members you have the written reports uh financial report uh three of them actually and uh facilities report I've kind of changed the name of that I have gotten a little tired of saying maintenance custodial and Landscaping and I thought there has to be one word that kind of kind of covers all of that so I've started using the term facilities and that report will look different in the future but I wanted to kind of let you know where we were right now um I don't have any miscellaneous updates that I can think of right now and but we'll answer any questions you might have no the only thing um with the ids60 ones with the discipline reports that we're seeing and seeing that we're having a large uh increase or large issues that we've been having at the middle and Fox Creek is there any way to like maybe have a comparison here we go with the charts again right uh but September but put the August one next to it so we can see are they going up are they coming down are they staying steady is any intervention that we're going to do are doing is showing any results I think that's a great idea um and and I'm I would suspect that since we are implementing some stronger it's not necessarily stronger consequences but we're you're going to see a spike and that's okay and that is okay that's okay but yeah I think I think that's an excellent idea for us to see from month to month yeah I mean if if we're seeing a spike because we're doing things such as you know cracking down and holding you know students more accountable than I I mean I'm okay with that Spike because we know why it's just if they lull and nothing changes that we're having the same issues then right yeah excellent idea we'll we'll Implement that any other questions I was up at Diamondback I took donuts up there to their PD and I was very impressed with with the people they they actually said I said you know I'll I'll come in and read a book I'll do a science experiment with you I'll do whatever it takes and um actually they came up and said what is your November calendar look like so you know like it's a it's very positive you know when I went and did that Sunrise is next we'll see what happens Chris is making a list [Laughter] any other uh board member updates Carolyn and Carolyn and I went to the rural yes rural schools and uh I learned a lot about rural schools they uh we have all the same problems and they are completely different than the Metropolitan schools I think I met some people that were very interesting to talk to and caroling made some good contacts plus that I won a Visa card for a hundred bucks that was a hundred bucks card so more Donuts more Donuts yeah you got it um I was very happy to go and I will go again I went to the county asba meeting um and I was very disappointed uh there were like four schools five schools represented and the rest of us stayed home if we're going to act as a team if we're going to act as a community we need to have some Community involvement I would suggest that next time they have have a conference like that that we actually send more than just Melinda to this conference I know Carolyn you were doing a CA Awards I was judging that night and and so you know every year they rotate where it's the county meeting so Melinda's comment that five out of the 14 districts you know I I can understand why that would be a little disappointing um you know so if there were a couple of people from each district it would first of all it would help as be a state people because it's an opportunity to talk directly with them about what our issues are yeah and we didn't get to do much of that because there were just not enough people there to talk about this and we do have some issues being rural mm-hmm okay thank you any other board member updates okay moving on uh item three the consent agenda any uh issues or things need to be pulled from the consent agenda if not we need a motion to approve the consent agenda is submitted wait wait wait wait wait um I would like us to discuss uh there was a teacher who who bailed on their contract it's been moved to the new it's been moved to new business okay then I guess we're okay with that then can we get a motion to approve the consent agenda a move that we approve the consent agenda as percentage Charlene Diaz I'll second that motion and a Boyd all in favor aye Corey Burgess aye Amanda Ayman aye Charlene Diaz I Anna Boyd I'm Melinda sabreski so moved um item 3.14 conveyed to a second session considering uh student discipline pursuant to ARS 38 4 3103 A2 and ars-1580-840a 15841 BD and 15843 a and F through H do we ship of these lands go ahead and proceed to the Pledge of Allegiance please [Music] all right moving on to item 1.02 is there any discussion and or modification of the agenda the airport colleagues interested in I'll go ahead and note that item 8.04 is being pulled by staff so that item is no longer the agenda or will not be heard is there any other items that you wish to move if we're comfortable with the way it is do I have a motion to adopt the agenda with that as uh second I have a motion by board by further five seconds um is there any public comment related to this particular item on the agenda uh in particular hello Mr World president uh we do have uh one attendee uh two now waiting to make public comment the first one uh excuse me if I mispronounce your name A-frame [Music] uh you have two minutes please submit yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin hello members of the board uh I'm I was just following the directions on the email that was sent to me I thought I was supposed to just log in and raise my hand I was just kind of waiting for the um open Forum so I don't have anything to add to this issue I'm sorry for raising my hand uh we'll uh thank you for for your question we'll get to uh public comment at item 2.01 awesome thank you sir Mr board president at this time we have no more requests for public comment okay all right uh we'll go ahead and uh proceed with the vote um I'll go ahead and call you as I see you um board vice president aye report aye uh board member aye and with the board uh member Chavez has not been here motion passes four one uh four um uh four four in favor and uh one absent okay all right um we went out to item 1.03's welcome explanation to the audience you all can read uh the language here um we have an explanation from uh Spanish language interpreter um was there an explanation in English or it was not dessert no okay so we need the explanation okay uh yes uh it's Carlos are you able to help us with the explanation for translation services thank you all right thank you for that explanation program we went on to item 2.01 at this point we'll go ahead and accept members of the public who wish to address the boards on matters not on the agenda but that are uh the purview or germane to the work that's being done here at Alum Rock School District so at this point I'll go ahead and accept all the comment uh public speakers are limited to two minutes to maximum two minutes per speaker it's Mr bro prisoner we have two speakers uh Mr Ephraim you have two minutes please submit yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin uh good evening members of the board thank you for the time I am asking to I'm asking the district to consider dropping the mask mandate due to the new Public Health orders and the ineffectiveness I I believe the health order is always related to higher risk settings which relate to Skilled nursing facilities Healthcare delivery facilities jails and other congregate shelters but not schools I reached out to Dr Barr who was kind enough to provide clarification and some reasons why they continue to go with the ordinance but the graph that she provided clearly states that the data does not necessarily mean that one area is less or more safe than the other and also it says that there's other instances that a high number of tests could also affect the numbers the fact that it's located next to long term Hair Care long-term care facilities also negate the count too so I'm just I'm just I I was kind of asking you guys to drop this because you guys really don't have enough facts to back it she also said that you guys are experiencing a 10 rate of absenteeism a higher rate than normal pandemics uh than the pandemic but I would like to point out that you guys are experiencing a high rate of cases while wearing the map so I think it's it's one could argue that the masks aren't doing anything and that's case in point because the CDC recommends the KN 95 mask and not the clock mask um unfortunately the Santa Clara County Office of Education called me right when this meeting started so I didn't get a chance to speak to him and get their follow-up but I'm just asking you guys to drop the orders because the county orders don't Supply it uh support it the state orders don't Supply it the numbers that you are providing as justification clearly state that these data do not necessarily mean that one ZIP code or neighborhood is more or less safer than the other so I I recommend that this school drop it because it is inhibiting the children's ability to learn we are in an area where their English is a sacred language or in my case when my daughter's trying to learn Spanish and you guys are and you're making it hard with the communication barrier thank you for your comments our next speaker is Richard Tran Mr Tran you have two minutes please send me yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin good evening Dr Bauer members of the board and members of the community uh my name is Richard Tran I am the general manager for working together's bare air region uh proudly supporting Alum Rock students and families um we've seen the power of after school really change kids lives not only by providing them a safe safe place to go after school but supporting them in their Journey towards College and Career this October we will once again shine a light on after school programs with our lights on after school celebration uh this upcoming Thursday October 20th will be inviting families and districts and school leaders to join us in one of two ways at McCollum Elementary we're hosting a Baptist showcase we're from four to six where the students will be putting on a performance that they've been practicing with and showcasing some of the fun arts and crafts that they've been working on this year option two is by tuning in to our virtual celebration we'll where uh we'll be joined by Miguel Cardona our U.S Secretary of Education um and that again will be this Thursday the 20th as well from three to 4 P.M um and and this year we're really focusing on highlighting our incredible staff who are working with our students every day helping them with homework guiding them through our enrichment and being there for them as mentors most of these staff members are from San Jose they've attended Alum Rock schools themselves and are here back giving back to their Community um so especially in today's work environment where so many people get to work just in front of a screen at home um you know our staff are out there showing up every day for our students and the Alamo community so um I will be sending an email with um details to Sandra Garcia director of federal programs to so graciously supports our partnership and programs and we hope to see you there thank you everyone thank you for your comments our next speaker is Janet Mista and that you have two minutes please send me yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin aren't uh calling on you once twice speaker is Janet correct what's that correct yes that's correct president all right at this point then we'll go ahead and move forward our next speaker is Adrian Bain Miss Bain you have two minutes please send me yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin all right hello can you hear me thank you um hello my name is Adrian vane and I am a teacher at Joseph George middle school and I would actually like you to keep the mask policy um I have Crohn's disease which is I'm immunocompromised and I have been completely vaccinated yet I've gotten covid twice and I am scared that if we take off the mass I'm going to be sick again and continue to get sick and I am losing time with my kids I was out for two weeks both times and I'm hoping that you will also maybe create a policy where I can get my sick leave back because I'm trying to be here at school I'm trying to be here for my kids but if I get sick I can't be here for my kids and me not being there for my students hinders learning more than wearing masks and I feel a lot safer the kids they don't have that much of a problem with it it's not that big of a deal it makes us feel safer we all feel safer please please keep the mouse policy because I don't want to keep on have to keep on taking two weeks off when I get coveted I think it's a lot less of a chance for me to get covered when students are married wearing masks than without and the reason I've got coded the last time was my AC went off and so the kids couldn't wear their masks that's how I got covered last time thank you Miss vane our next speaker is Janet Mista Janet you have two minutes please submit yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin hi good evening sorry I was having microphone issues um I actually wanted to talk about the mask issue as well as an equity issue and I urge you guys to revisit this policy there are other school districts nearby even in 95127 Mount Pleasant elementary school district that are not requiring masks that students can still choose to wear them or they cannot some students you know health issues breathing issues or if they're learning languages masks are a deterrent and there's also um so I think it's an equity issue if you have nearby school districts that aren't masking and you're forcing this school district to mask when they're nearby based on the numbers from Santa Clara County covid case rate the whole county is under 200 and the CDC has even identified Santa Clara County as a low-risk community I understand that people you know get sick and that's not you know my my thought as a parent I'm looking out for my child who does complain about having to wear a mask indoors six hours a day that she gets a brief moment outside when they have recess or lunch but for her trying to be in class having people hear her the mask inhibits that she yawns the teachers are getting upset with them because they're they're constantly tugging out their masks and to me that's not really effective that a true um masking mitigation effort would be an n95 and that's not what kids are wearing half the time when I go to the school the kids aren't wearing their masks correctly and I just urge you guys to look at this as an equity issue that students at this school district same 95127 as Mount Pleasant have stricter rules and there's no real clear um kind of metrics to look at when the masking mandates were you know when you guys would remove the mask requirements so I'm that's what I wanted to input thank you for your comments our next speaker is Ms Delaware missed otherwise you have two minutes please send me yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin hello um yes I would like to ask if we could consider keeping the mass policy because we no longer have testing at school and we are not able to notify families as we were doing before about the potential risks for students so I feel like masks are are one and only safety measure that we have left right now um and even though cases are currently down we all know that during winter months the potential for covid Rises and also the flu is also something that is at as a big risk during the winter time so considering to keep mass is not just about covid but also about flu and making sure that our students um are safe and our staff are safe and with all of our vacations coming up and people traveling I think attendance has become an issue for both staff and students this year and with lack of Subs the risk of anyone getting sick students or staff it becomes more um for us to kind of think about the availability of subs and for our students to not fall more behind on work so if you could please consider keeping the mask policy I think that would benefit both students and staff thank you for listening thank you for your comments our next speaker is Veronica tallative Miss Sultan you have two minutes please send me yourself when you begin speaking the timer will begin good evening Board of Trustees superintendent Bauer Alum Rock community members and staff I'm Veronica Talton I'm speaking tonight as an individual and I'm a proud member of the Alum Rock Union School District at Lindell Elementary and Joseph George Middle School I would like to reiterate um the importance of masking as my colleagues have mentioned this evening I also would like to address what a parent mentioned about Equity as a leader who has worked in equity both in my Teachers Association as well as in my community Equity is everyone getting what they need to succeed what they need to survive and I'm very thankful that Dr Hilaria Bauer has taken into consideration what the pre-k through eight students need in Alum Rock yes we have surrounding districts that may have different policies but Alum Rock Union School District is doing what it needs for our students to survive for our staff to survive students are able to wear the facial mask they're able to wear n95s but we also want to make sure our students have the funding for things as well and I do want to take this opportunity in my final seconds to urge everyone to please support the Arts Alum Rock Union schools has Arts but we want all of them Mariachi fire piano ukulele to get the sufficient funding that it needs and prop 28 supports funding for all arts school in schools in California without raising taxes kids in the Arts are five times less likely to drop out of school four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 30 percent more inclined to perform to pursue a professional career the Arts matter and we are thankful for our superintendent who allows masks in our schools thank you very much thank you for your comments Miss Talton Mr board president at this time uh we have no more news speakers all right uh moving on to item 3.01 the Alum Rock administrative Association do we have somebody here to speak on behalf of Ara um all right foreign okay thank you all right if uh if they do show up shortly then we'll go ahead and call them out of order uh next do we have anybody from Teamsters I'm 302 I think since we're not going to be able to make it okay all right um CSH uh Sharon are you here and Sharon have a little procedure so she excuse herself she sends her greetings to the board all right I see Jocelyn's here so area uh Europe 3.04 thank you good evening Board of Trustees and superintendent Bauer I finally started my in-person visits to each of the sites this week I've only had the chance to visit one so far but um hopefully I'll get to all the rest of them within the next few weeks it's the first time in three years that I've been able to do this in person and I'm so grateful that we have the mask mandate for indoors and that it's still in place because it's really good to be back in the school environment and without the masks I did not feel safe if Alum Rock wasn't requiring masks indoors my visits would still be limited to zoom there's just some things that you cannot see or feel when meeting through Zoom it's a different experience out of curiosity this week the area organizing team sent out a survey to our members asking how they felt about the mask mandate indoors at school it was not surprising to see that a great majority of the teachers are very supportive of the Mask mandate in Alum Rock and would like it to continue particularly since we are going into the cooler months ahead when we are spending more time inside and obviously there's more more viruses going around in the winter months another thing that was brought to my attention as I drove over to Shepherd on Tuesday aside from The Dumping Ground across the street from the school where I saw a refrigerator laying on its side and other major appliances laying around I noticed that there is absolutely no fence around the school site to keep trespassers off there is a fence around the outdoor field but not around the classrooms and the buildings on the site it was actually surprising since Shepherd campus Shepard shares a campus with painter and last week when I tried to get onto painter's campus I had to take a route through the shepherd cafeteria and then be guided on painters site by another teacher because of the fencing and the locked Gates all around it in fact I couldn't even figure out how to get to the painter office but that you know that was my problem that I eventually managed but my point being is that it definitely feels like a safety issue at Shepherd Middle School particularly in light of the terrifying events that are taking place around the country there um I understand that there is an expense involved however our student safety is worth well more than the cost of offense so if that's something that can be dealt with soon I think that um it would be well worth any money that it costs I would also like to address another issue of liability that has been brought to my attention it's not a new problem but in my opinion it's a critical one that wasn't on my radar until recently as we are all aware Alum Rock has an award-winning phenomenal and highly sought after music program that has maintained its respected reputation throughout the years it draws attendance to our school district and deservedly so obviously it doesn't happen without the dedicated students parents and teachers putting in the hours of rehearsals both during and outside of school hours however what I recently found out is disturbing on several levels our students practice at one School site several times a week after school which requires many of them to find transportation from their homeschool site to where their rehearsal is about half of our students do not have a parent that can transport them so it has been left up to the teachers to give them rides in their own personal cars to rehearsal and then back home several days per week because the district does not provide transportation for them this was literally shocking to me not only that it is allowed by the district but that it is even expected this issue is not just limited to rehearsals but includes performances where the district is asking for their participation that's just wrong it's wrong to expect teachers to assume the safety liability that comes with transporting students in their own cars not only is this a safety issue but it also opens the door to false allegations against our our accusations against our area members again we live in different times and it's more important now than ever that we do not place our members in precarious situations if the district is going to boast about its incredible music department it needs to provide adequate ongoing support beginning with providing basic transportation of course there's a price to it but that cost should be borne by the district and not by the individual teachers if it is a program sustained by the district obviously there is a cost associated with doing so please deal with this Transportation problem as soon as possible because I know that there are dates coming up where the district wants the music department Department to perform do not count on or expect area members to provide that transportation lastly the School Board elections are less than a month away area has exercised its process to vet and endorse candidates who we feel would be the most effective in making decisions on behalf of this District to meet the needs of all students of all of everyone of all students parents District staff and teachers both on our local school board and at the Santa Clara County Office of Education Board District Six the voters in this community should have already received at least one mailer listing the candidates that the teachers in Alum Rock are endorsing it is gener a generally accepted notion that the community trusts teachers teachers want what is best for educating our students and that includes wanting the best school board members to make decisions affecting our students so please follow the lead of the teachers of Alum Rock and vote for the candidates that we have endorsed and most importantly just remember to vote thank you all right um we're downtown 3.05 uh superintendent do you have any comments yes uh for members and Community I'm very happy to remind everybody that we have parent University coming up on October 29th it's we're looking forward to that um we haven't had the fall parent University for three years so this is going to be coming back um and knowledge I would like to thank AAUW for helping hundreds of young girls like me invest in blossoming stem Futures and I would like to thank the La Palma Cerritos AAUW Branch for sponsoring me at the Whittier College stem Tech Trek camp to get started my time at Tech Trek is truly something that I will always remember and hold dear to my heart during my time at Tech Trek I've I had many Hands-On experiences and participated in various experiments that helped me learn about stem the day after all the girls arrived and got checked in we had our core classes in two Workshops the core class I took was in biology we made an ecosphere with a decomposer a producer and a consumer in class we learned about the six kingdoms of life and how certain bugs reactions to changes in their environment my workshops were designed for learning about pH levels and fossils what the pH levels workshops we tested out a variety of liquids like vinegar bleach and detergent with a substance that changed color when the liquids were acidic or alkaline for learning about fossils we got two learn about certain locations where they might be found at and we got to dig up our own small fossils and keep them the next workshops displayed fascinating facts and information about Plastics and lotion we got to make our own lotion and add sense to it with the help of Professionals for learning about Plastics we carefully stuck skewers into a balloon to observe how the rubber would react then we saw how much we could fit into it before it popped for the last few days we worked on projects that we plan to present to our parents on the last day and took two field trips one field trip was to the Downey Memorial Space Center and the second field trip was to a cadaver lab in Whittier through the whole experience I would proudly say that my favorite part was the cadaver lab although some girls in the camp seemed uncomfortable or uneasy I felt so happy and grateful for being able to have the opportunity to learn about human bodies organs and their functions one day that was really significant for me was the night we met with six women with Professional Steam careers since I met all the wonderful and incredible women at Tech Trek Camp I've been thinking about having a career in psychology Tetra Camp affected and impacted me deeply and I left the camp with more knowledge and coffee and confidence in how I wanted to build my path in life thus I have a lot of things to be expressed to the sponsors of the Tetra Camp auw California because of all the lessons I learned and the fun experiences that they provided [Applause] foreign [Applause] all right so we got Jillian in the house so it's 6.1 now we'll go back to 6.1 for recognition so we are here to uh I just got to tell you Jillian we're all very proud of you so I I know everybody's going to hear what she's accomplished so Jillian albayadi is a former student at Anaheim high school and the first female to ever pitch in a CIF Southern section Championship baseball game let's give a big round of applause of that [Applause] Jillian was also named Orange County's girls athlete of the Year by the Orange County register and Miss albayadi participated in the USA baseball Women's National Team she was received she has received an excellence in sports performance yearly award better known as SP for women in sports and as a result of her accomplishments Jillian al-bayadi was offered and accepted a scholarship to play softball for California State University San Marcos let's give it a big round of applause I know this introduction doesn't do justice so I'm going to invite Robert Saldivar to give your stats so that we know what you accomplished thank you board president Al Jabar and just to mention there's a lot of stats that we can mention and we're only going to share a few of them just because of time right but I just want to let you guys know um first and foremost I want to acknowledge the fact that um you know her parents are both uh Anaheim high school graduates as well her head coach coach Brewer is a high school and I'm High School alum as well and there's a few of us in here so a lot of including myself and even Mr Hernandez and and there's a lot of Pride not only for our district but for for our school um and I'm high school and Jillian as I mentioned before you just made us so proud over the four years of tour there not only with your accomplishments but just your leadership um as a student athlete um and just the things the way you you know you were on uh your team with your teammates in call and uh classmates in on on campus just a all-around awesome person so again made us very proud so just listen to some of these stats Dylan was a four-year Varsity starter okay so she arrived her freshman year made not only made the program but made the the varsity team um her senior year she was 12-0 as a senior with a 1.51 era and a 333 batting average that that's 333 batting average is better than Mr Hernandez and mine combined when we played at Anaheim okay just wanted to let you know okay she in her four years as a starter on on the mound on the bump as we say she finished 20-0 okay that's awesome she was also I know president uh both president jabard mentioned that she there was first of many right first to pitch in a CIF championship game right um uh first there's first amending so I'm gonna just a couple more that I wanted to make sure we we all were aware first to pitch in the state California State Playoff game and also the first female to play in the north south Orange County All-Star game so again just super proud of not only your complimental accomplishments deal but just you as a person and you know your legacy at Anaheim high school and we're always going to remember you and um you know all the little girls around that that saw got to see her looking up and and want to be just like you so great job very proud of you foreign [Music] [Applause] is experience [Music] foreign all right we're gonna jump ahead a little bit on our presentations and we're going to do the Disney Resort aim and Workforce Development presentation that's number eight in the agenda right so the Disneyland Resort is both a funding sponsor and a and a participating business in anaheim's Innovative mentoring experience also called aim which provides students with work-based learning experiences ranging from one day visits to businesses to professional internships to prepare students for college career and life success over the last four Summers Disneyland Resort has hosted students in work based mentoring as part of the aim summer internship program so I'd like to invite Kim chips manager or corporate citizenship for Disneyland Resort who will share the sure with the board the trustees presentation on work based mentoring program oh I'll have Jaren introduce you no worries so I'm going to actually introduce MJ cook who is our is our outstanding aim program administrator and just thank her for her leadership and then she will introduce our amazing partners with Disney and then of course our wonderful students who got to participate this summer with our friends at Disney so mg I'll go and turn over to you thank you very much Mr Ward president of Board of Trustees superintendent and cabinet it is such an honor to be here tonight and introduce the Disneyland Resort team and at this time I'd like to call it Larry labrato to initiate tonight's presentation thank you MJ uh good evening president Jamar members of the Board of Trustees superintendent Matt suda and to the entire Anaheim Union High School District team um my name is Larry librado I'm with the Disneyland Resort and here with me tonight you can hear from my colleague Kim chips as well as two of your aim students and then a surprise at the end um but first thank you for allowing us to join you here this evening to share some of our experiences with the aim program and it to say it's been outstanding is an understatement um the Disneyland Resort has proudly hosted aim students for the past few years um both in person and virtually but it's an important program it it's especially at this moment in time where it aligns perfectly with our goal of helping students prepare for that next step in life be it going off to college or entering the workforce and we we really applaud a pro applaud your leadership and vision for establishing this program that really gives students a chance to explore the real world and here to tell you a little bit more about our experience with the program and its impact is Kim chips senior manager for corporate social responsibility at Disneyland thank you thank you Larry and thank you all very much for allowing us to come here tonight and and tell you a little bit about our program with your amazing aim students so we as Larry mentioned we've hosted aim students three years first in 2019 we hosted three students in person you can see them up on the top left on the slide there and we really didn't know what to expect you know we knew where they were high school students they were high achieving they were motivated but they blew us away we took a slightly different approach with our program than maybe some of the other organizations we really wanted to expose these students to as many different leaders and career opportunities at the Disneyland Resort as we could and so these high school students met with 40 different leaders from different departments across the resort we gave them some simulated projects to work on and we were so impressed by them we came back to the district and offered 350 000 to continue the aim program and offer this opportunity to even more students fast forward to 2020 we had a little bit of an unexpected hiccup so unfortunately we were not able to participate that year but in 2021 we were so impressed that the district so quickly was able to Pivot to a virtual format that gave us the opportunity to once again host students and we decided to double our number of students we went from three to six in 2021 hosted them virtually we had no idea how that was going to go in a virtual format but they showed us they were just as motivated and driven in that virtual format we gave them all the same opportunities as the students had in person and once again we were extremely impressed fast forward to this past summer 2022 we decided to take on 10 students this year we were still in a virtual format but we introduced kind of a hybrid setting we did bring them in for a day and I don't want to say too much about that 2022 experience because I want you to hear from our students so first I want to introduce you to Jimmy Chi he's going to come up and tell you a little bit about his experience at the Disneyland Resort Jimmy let's go this way good evening everyone a few months ago I never would have guessed I'll be in this position to that I am grateful for the opportunities that were given to me the people that I've gone to learn about and the chance to meet you all for me working with a Disneyland Resort was an unforgettable experience and I will refer to it as DLR for the rest of my speech as a student who grew up aimless pressured by parents to pursue careers I had no interest in at all I signed up for aim thinking it was my way out a way to find a definitive answer on everything regarding my inevitable future ironically it only made things ever so more complicated through aim I was able to work with dlrs workforce management department I had the chance to partner with a professional in the field our land of Van Horn who gave me valuable information not only about her job but her wild Journey that assured me that everyone finds their place in the world at some point I had the chance to demonstrate my learning in a cohort project that proudly displayed all our team's efforts in an amazing presentation more importantly I got a chance to find out what it took to operate in a professional environment especially in communication and collaboration building relationships and a social network was a large part of the aim program and some of the people I met I still keep in touch with every peer and student had their own interests and stories with distinct backgrounds unbeknownst to me the program brought in my views from Beyond my own high school and showed me that it's not such a small world after all specifically with DLR we provided guest speakers daily who went out of the way to educate and provide us future and provide us advice about our futures in the end everyone I met with I achieved some sort of emotional connection with because of aim my long-term anxiety about my future has also been relieved instead of dreading the choices ahead of me I now await them in the steps Beyond the workforce management my interest in Business Administration has also grown but that isn't to say my future is set in stone I still have questions to answer and holes to fill but aim was a step in the right direction to cap this off I request that the aim program continue as a once aimless kid this opportunity needs to stand in order to support students like me students who need answers guidance and experience for the tales of later life I once again thank everyone for this opportunity and expect it to to extend to the next generation of students aim and Disney was a gift to me and I hope it keeps on giving foreign so impressive right so I also want you to hear from one other student Heen Trin um good evening everyone first of all I want to express my gratitude to everyone here today the people who have called me during my time at aim and the Disneyland Resort who came to the United States in 2007 I could have never imagined myself in a position to work with a globally recognized company such as Disneyland for that I'll be eternally grateful towards the aim Organization for helping kids like me get a little bit closer to our dream well that's for the people who have their eyes set on a dream of course me being somebody who's been torn between family influences and my personal interests this is an opportunity for me to see the big wide world and see what my personal interests actually lie now allow me to give you further insights of what we had accomplished at the Disneyland Resort our primary task was to organize and create a hypothetical event that will that would take place on the park being distributed into different departments that would all come together to formulate a developed plan I thought we got experience just a bit of what people in the real world get to do in their day-to-day life with an interest in the business field I came into the program assigned to the Department of Revenue management analytics which I will now refer to as rmna just for time's sake from this department I met a wonderful Mentor Ms Julia Campos who guided through me through all my anxiety and stress given me all the information I could have desired into her career as somebody who was conflicted just by Family influence like how Ireland and her current experiences in day-to-day life her teachings allowed me to effectively and efficiently manage my department for learning how to attend meetings expressing myself or to Leading the groups to get our tests done I wasn't necessarily like to be a group leader but I learned that information was necessary to complete certain tasks and that I could do it through without getting any animosity throughout the cohort this experience showed me that that people are interested in business requirements Charisma and a work ethic well I do possess some type of work I don't think communicating with so many different people and trying to get information from them into day-to-day life is something I have shown interest in I'm eternally grateful however because there's a potential major that I was going to pursue in college and aims saved me much time this doesn't mean that this is a career path that I did not wish to follow it's just for the meantime I would like to explore different things Amazon wonders for me in terms of building skill confidence and motivation working alongside fantastic people and expanding my social network and Horizons thank you once again for listening Jimmy Heen thank you so much for being part of our program I mean you are shining examples of the types of students that this district is producing and we know you're going to have very Bright Futures and please keep us in mind in the future they presented their final presentation was to about 50 different senior leaders at Disneyland and they were on Zoom but those students were so poised they were so well prepared they covered every detail of this hypothetical after dark style event that they put together that our leaders they were blown away they thought oh my goodness we need to hire these students right now they need to be our next event managers um so well done I now want to introduce a very special guest we brought with us tonight who has a few additional words so I'd like to welcome Ken pot Rock president of the Disneyland Resort to the podium [Applause] I'm not quite sure where to start I'm a little intimidated there are so many smart and talented young people in this room tonight and it's it's truly a pleasure to be part of it and and to just feel that Vibe so thank you thank you very much for having us um first of all gentlemen congratulations uh fantastic job the team briefed me on all the different work that they were doing and how terrific they were and I don't think Kim's fooling around I think we really do like need to start recruiting very very quickly so I think it's it's really exciting to be part of that and it's exciting to see these Bright Futures right here in front of us um you know I think back to my high school days and I think about all the challenges that I was faced with as a as a young person mostly not knowing what was out there and not knowing how to be prepared for all the inevitable opportunities that might you know propose themselves to me I wish that there was a program like this when I was in high school it would have uh been unbelievably helpful it would have been incredibly uh uh supportive of how I would have navigated my life and and again I'm so thrilled that we're able to do this I'm a little jealous so I'm intimidated and I'm jealous that's two so far as you know uh we've had a long-standing relationship with the Anaheim Union High School District and one that we're very proud of and one that we're very committed to continuing let's put that one on the table we're so impressed with this program and the results that we're seeing here tonight that because Jimmy asked for us to continue this program I guess we have to respond so we are responding to your request uh with a check a big check both size and and substance of 300 thousand dollars to help you continue to build this wonderful program we're so honored to be part of this program we're so honored to be able to uh contribute to the Anaheim community and we're really grateful that as a partnership our two organizations and are really one community and as a 70-year partner within the Anaheim area we couldn't be prouder thank you very much foreign [Applause] suitable for framing yeah right great job well I'll I'll just start off with thanking uh Larry Kim and then of course Ken for coming down and um supporting this program I think it's it's great that we're continuing the partnership I'm glad that our students actually asked you to invest in us so I'm glad that you're writing this big check so again on behalf of Anaheim Union High School District all our aim program participants and also our residents thank you for doing this for us and we hope to continue this partnership in the future thank you thank you [Applause] hey yes all right so we're going to be okay are we okay with uh moving up 10.1 as well oh did you want to move up again do we have to make a motion no no it's okay all right so I'll go ahead and uh introduce 10.1 and who is doing the introduction is it going to be you Jared sure so the staff to present is Chuck Hernandez would you want to come up and present the I could go ahead and read it I'll give you the background information so board policy 5201 name of uh yeah that's what I'm going to say yeah um naming of the facilities to honor individuals in the district as per the Board of Trustees request so an ad hoc committee was formed to review the proposals and to make the policy recommendations to the superintendent for board consideration so Chuck let me go ahead and bring you into make the presentation and this is to name the facility coach Tim Mac minimum minimum um as a facility go ahead actually if it's okay we're president um because Chuck is new to can tell I actually worked at catella and was a student there so I can speak probably more to the more to coach Mack and works for me I would appreciate that Dr Freedom well that was your whole life yeah absolutely thank you Dr Fried the whole idea was to sweat Chuck a little bit so it worked it worked all right so the request came in recently uh to name the varsity baseball field after Tim coach Mack mcminimum and uh just you know when I first got into education as a teacher I taught in the room right next to him and he and I were both mild mod uh moderate teachers in the special education program and just a tremendous uh upstanding individual a great teacher great coach and I got to see the relationship he built not only with our students but with the the baseball players and our staff he actually was my freshman football coach at Katella so just a tremendous gentleman we brought a committee together to review the applications that contella has submitted along with the letters of recommendations we receive not only from the Katella Community but from the community across our district and the ad hoc committee was overwhelmingly supportive of making this recommendation to you you saw on an update the different accomplishments that he had over the years in terms of some of his baseball attributes so it's definitely a recognition that we're proud to support they have us oh they have it they have it here so for the rest of the audience I can read uh let's see under his leadership the Katella High School baseball team won five League championships qualify for the CIF playoffs for 11 seasons and reached the quarterfinals of CIF three times as a coach he was named Orange County coach of the year in 1996 and was selected as the Empire league coach of the year five times and was selected to coach the Orange County All-Star game I know he's also had a couple of players who've made to the professional level Jared Wright I think Chris Reed made it to the miners I don't know that he ever made it to the majors and of course Brandon Barnes played with him recently most recently probably and then he uh played for the Rockies I think at some point I know he's moved around so again just a tribute to coach Mack and the great work that he did so and I know he has a number of Representatives tonight here from Katella high school and our family and I'm just honored to have you take this under consideration all right it's an action item so I'll entertain a motion exactly I have a motion a second all in favor aye aye any opposed motion passes your unanimously and congratulations I believe we have some of the family members present here today is that accurate or I don't see any one okay okay all right perfect does any one of you do any one of you want to step up and say a few words be happy again I'm making you guys sweat [Laughter] all right well no that's okay thank you very much I appreciate you coming here in support of uh the naming us thank you all right thank you down Chuck yeah Chuck you can sit all right so we go back to the agenda let's start off with seven which is reports and we're going to start off with a student representative report and omkar okay I'm Carr That's your short chance it's your first no it's your second one I guess it's your second one good evening everyone um I think the board all got the uh sooner part as well oh wow Morales so much you are fancy I know all right so each each school's Ambassador wrote up their own report and we compiled them okay so this is just their work all put together this is super wow thank you it's also off with Anaheim so Anaheim let's go through some of their uh accomplishments over this past few months over this past month so Adam High School celebrated their Hispanic heritage week where teachers played Spanish music and ASB Health activities like Loteria on the pep stage and one of the students said that they hope this becomes a tradition next year because uh they're mostly Hispanic there and it's important you know so that was a quote from Andrea Monroy who is the Anaheim AAC secretary so moving on to Cambridge so Cambridge Virtual Academy have students volunteers at the Anaheim mayoral campaign where students got to have a first-hand experience in Civic engagement and local government so they're really grateful for that Cypress High School recently had a choir show and they threw a choir show um from September 29th to 30th and the show was titled on Broadway and they had a range of songs from Hamilton to everybody Rejoice so they invite you to the next one whenever they have one um Gilbert High School recently held a bud drive for the City of Hope and superintendent Mr matsudo was spotted there so they want to give a huge thank you to you Mr matsuda there's even a picture on the report moving on to Katella High School uh Katella High School had a really unique opportunity where students took a bus to Temescal Park in Santa Monica and spoke to Dr Jane Goodall on her world famous research so very grateful there um Kennedy's FNL club or Friday Night Live held an after-school event where students collaborated with the National Alliance on Mental Health to design posters for suicide prevention month luaris theater put on a show from September 28th to 30th called Putman County Spelling Bee they would also love to see you at their next show in late November which is the Christmas carol so they'd love to see you there uh Magnolia hosted a football game with the school from Hawaii so Radford High School actually had students fly out and they're welcome by Magnolia's ASB with a dinner hosted in their honor so they danced with their traditional dances and we hosted dinner for them so yeah and then we had that football game Oxford Academy had their band invited to the Angel Stadium on September 13th to play the ceremonial national anthem before the game Savannah's Red Cross Club volunteered an animal shelter called hemopet where they got to meet rescued Greyhound dogs they took care of them and are planning to go back as soon as they can finally Western had the Orange County Register come to one of their football games to evaluate the famed student section the PO pit also football players gathered at Rock and Brews in Irvine to get interviewed for channel La 36 news so hsd I gotta tell you I'm car you took your you know every year we ask our student ambassadors to take that bar higher and you put another bar high for everybody else so great work great thank you really really good excellent idea all right thank you thank you thank you omkar all right um next we usually entertain our student speakers if there are any in the audience and I was uh submitted one request to speak from a Sycamore Junior High student and that's Kayla Martinez so she's going to be speaking about her great principal good evening school board members my name is Kayla Martinez I stand in front of you to talk to you about my amazing principal as you know this week we are celebrating um our school administrators I just want you to know that Miss um Nancy Cortez is a person who I look up to she's a person who I can talk to whenever I need she's a person who went to my school and understands my students I mean our students for that I am thankful her leadership is what brings us together thank you Miss Nancy Cortez and to all of our principals at our school Mr Alvarez and Miss Sonia Cortez thank you for listening all right thank you [Applause] all right thank you now we will go to 7.3 reports of associations and I will go ahead and call on I think we have years for schools and public education in decades the relationships that we are building will serve us moving forward as we look for continued progress the memberships of our bargaining units are focused on current contract negotiations Asta has put forth its current proposal after a few exchanges we have arrived at a fair and Equitable offer that is both affordable to the district and recognizes our Educators and support staff for what they do on a daily basis auhsd rightly asks a lot of its Educators and support staff no matter the position any of our District employees holds we strive to know student needs and those of their parents and our community as board members you are acutely aware of all the district has to offer and what makes everyone so proud to be part of what goes on here just last week a team made up of every employee group put together the best College and Career Fair around for students and their families in auhsd teachers rewrote lesson plans for an entire week to accommodate shorter class periods so they could deliver College and Career Readiness lessons for an hour each day there are dozens of events and programs similar to this that bring the same dedication and service to our students we have become a model District that offers others support and that is frequently highlighted by the County Board and State offices of Education because of our people the continued success of our students at universities is because of our people the incredible achievements of our students through the aim program mentioned earlier tonight is because of thankful for the time we were given to grow and the Insight we were able to bring back to our students insights and now to continue with some bright spots with some of our schools Katella High School with their teachers and admin and through their teamwork they support their students South Junior High for this College and Career Fair week the South counseling team played pledge trivia with parents School community and those joining us in person and online so we have quickly ended the first semester and are in full swing of things at all School sites we are delighted to report the incredible success of the College and Career Fair and all of the site's implementation of a week-long focus on college career and self-exploration sites are now continuing their support for the college application process FAFSA completion as well as raising awareness of their resources and supports for student health and well-being additionally we are continuing coffee with the principles and are beginning to conduct parent learning walks at the sites we are proud of all of the clubs and organizations for all of their efforts in our back to school events for all of the community and culture building events held during their first quarter we particularly want to highlight the RSVP Summits which are being held at all the high school sites to gather student feedback and input in keeping with the topic of student feedback this past Monday during the non-student day all Sites conducted professional development at their sites and focused on bolstering student voice schools have done a tremendous work towards our student Capstone and Junior High showcases and we are excited to see what students create through their learning experiences and this process and lastly since this is school administrators week we want to give all of our administrators a shout out for their hard work their focus on staff students and student learning and their dedication to their sites in school communities we are grateful for all that they do but most importantly that they are amazing people and servant leaders thank you all right thank you Amanda just in time we're going to invite you Jesse Alvarez our PTA president hi good evening um board president Jabar the rest of the members of the board superintendent matsuda and cabinet my name is Jesse Alvarez I'm this year's Council PTA president some of you may have seen me in other capacities but I first got my start volunteering in school in PTA I've been involved on the PTA board since my son was in first grade so for nine years I've been on the school unit boards at both the elementary and now at Anaheim High School I also have served on both the elementary Council board this is my third year on the secondary Council board and I also serve on the fourth district board as well so I have a lot of PTA uh in my life um so but I'm really thankful to be back in person presenting to you guys um so that's just a little bit of my PTA history um so for what we're doing um we if you're not aware even during the pandemic we were still working hard and we actually started a PTA at Cambridge Virtual Academy so we now have 18 ptas throughout the district and we still have two schools that we're working on to kind of bring them into PTA if that's possible but right now we have the 18 schools that we're really proud of um across the ptas our membership is about 3 3 300 plus members across all of our that's parents community members students we have a lot of student members um and we've been doing like alumni push um so we're really proud we're thankful to Brian O'Neill who joined all of our ptas at our principal president breakfast I know al-jabbar is a member at some of our I'm sure more of our board members are members as well so thank you for your support to PTA um uh let's see we um we've been working on I'm just getting our our pte members back on site um volunteer in our class and our and our school campuses running programs um you'll see our ptas helping with lunch supervision um after school sales we saw a lot of them at back to school nights um so we're really out there trying to get back involved visible at our units um and uh some things that we have already done on September 23rd I just want to give a little quick shout out we had the Anaheim collaborative current Summit AT Fullerton College and I attended one of the parent student panels and two of our parent leaders were like how did you first get involved and they both were like PTA so I was like you know PTA has always helped support bridge that Student Success bringing the parents in getting them involved in campus so a lot of our parents that have like myself and many other leaders that you know across the district that are involved in many other committees now because of our first start in PTA that's how we learned about all of the other committees and District work across all of our campuses um on September 27th like I said we had the principal president breakfast um Mr Jabar and um Brian O'Neill both um attended that so thank you and matsuda and all of our cabinet were there as well um so we were really I was really glad that was this is my third year on Council but that was the first time I've been able to attend that event because we haven't been able to do it so it was really great to get all of our principals and our presidents in the same room and I know it's hard for to pull our admin away from their site so we're really grateful that they were able to join us and we'll provide breakfast for them and just kind of get to sit with them and learn how we can work together as a team at our sites um right now one of the programs we're running at our schools is the reflections art program um if you know me from the elementary I'm really passionate about the reflections art program so we're really hoping to increase that in the coming years we have such strong vapa programs across our district but we haven't always gotten that same participation in the reflections program so we're really hoping to kind of broaden that and reach out reach more students participating in that program but we will be having our Reflections gallery on November 17th so you'll be looking for communication on that because you guys are all welcome to attend and just see all the artwork and different um Visual and Performing Arts from across our district another upcoming event we have in December December 7th it will be our holiday potluck and silent auction so again another event that I have never been able to attend until now so I'm looking forward to enjoying that with you guys um so you guys will also be invited to that as well um so this is me Jesse Alvarez PTA so I hope to come and like present more throughout the year um and hope to see many more members throughout from our cabinet and our boards at our units um membership is an ongoing campaign so you can join at any time um so we value your support of all of our parent volunteers out across our district and you can always reach out if you guys have anything that you want to um communicate with all of our our parents parent leaders at our sites thank you foreign [Applause] all right we're now going to our oh we did the Disney presentation public comments we're going to go to public comments I'm going to go ahead and read a disclaimer here opportunities for public comments occur at the beginning of each agenda item and at this time for items not on the agenda persons wishing to address the Border trustee should complete a speaker request form available on the information table on the back of the room and submit it to the executive assistant prior to the meeting each speaker is limited to a maximum of five minutes each topic or item is limited to a total of 20 minutes board members cannot immediately respond to public comments as stated on the speaker request form we have one speaker today and that's Linda Martinez thank you so much for the opportunity um first of all I want to start off by thanking each one of you for all the things that you do for our children whether you are you know at the school district running the show or if you are one of our board members representing each area of our five cities my name is Linda Martinez and formerly known as Linda Lovato's for some reason lobatus never goes away so I'm standing here before you and um one of the things I wanted to bring up is um that there are some things that we need to fix within the district you know I have always been a very passionate parent I've always come before you guys I recently have established a report with Mr Jabar and I text him and I tell them hey man we you know we need this done we need that done and for that I thank you now for responding but I think that there's also there needs to be collaboration from the district itself you know we still see a lot of situations happening at Anaheim High School I've talked to Mr Mike matsuda about this um you know some of our children are using marijuana and they happen to go get high where I live like by the Starbucks I live right behind Anaheim high school so that's very concerning most of the times I've been told to call the Anaheim PD but that's not my heart we need to find Alternatives you know and my heart goes for the at promise kids because you know what those are the ones that need us most the ones that are going to college they're already you know on that Journey we already know they have those expectations so for that I need for you guys to start something to focus on those children to open more ilc programs you know within the district I know that we have some but we haven't done much since you know 10 years from now we really need those so that children can identify themselves at each School site and they don't lose their identity because it is when we're dealing with mental health you know when you pull a child let's say I'm a former colonist and if somebody were to tell me you're not a colonist anymore and you're something else it's like I lose my identity I take pride every time that I walk by Anaheim high school or I drive by my old high school because that's my home you know that was my home away from home so for that I would like for that and then another thing is the dates that our superintendent parent advisory committee you know we have four dates that's not enough you know Mr Michael we really need to speak to you on issues like this we really need you know it's a collaboration team effort here you know parents I noticed that they had so many questions and there wasn't much much time in those advisory meetings you know and so you know with four meetings we have one on September the 22nd uh December 6 February 7th May 18th that's not enough you know I know that you guys are working for our community you're working for the best interest of our children and please keep that in mind you know parents are your partners in education and we need to have that you know communication going back and forth and with that being said you know I want to give kudos to my kid because I didn't think that she would speak but I told her this is where you speak you know you get to meet all of these great people that you know make things happen in your school district and for that you know I'm I'm so blessed that my kids are here today um you know and I'm so glad that you know you guys are doing that amazing things for our children I want to give kudos to every administrator that has touched the lives of my children as you know I have three adult children you know and I have two that are coming up to Anaheim Union and Kayla who's right now at Sycamore so I want to give a shout out to Anna Corral John bricklett Mr Santiago Manuel colon Nancy Cortez Sonia Cortez Enrique Romero Juan Alvarez Dr Monica Valencia which is at the other District Mr echeverria at the other district and Miss shumate thank you so much and then let's not forget one thing we need counselors I know my counselor for my child is that she's going to lose it this year please think about Alternatives we really need our guidance counselors I know that they're they're only supposed to have 250 students you know and our counselors at Sycamore have more than 400 so I know about those numbers please let's work together let's get things done thank you so much for your time all right thank you Miss Martinez and I will go to our Educational Services agenda items 10.2 School sponsored student organizations OMG you get to vote on this we have a motion and a second all in favor aye aye aye including your home car all right oh we have that passed and now we go to resolutions 10.3 resolution number 2022-23-b-04 no report no report no report no report you hesitated Brad no reports no report no report all right we'll start with Miss Piercy okay I didn't do that much this uh period between board meetings I took a couple of vacations and I missed some things that I didn't want to miss unfortunately um I uh but I did make the Mac Farm dinner and that was phenomenal Magnolia did a dinner utilizing the vegetables grown there plus some chicken of course they weren't the chickens that Magnolia has now that was a surprise when I went for the dinner they had chickens and a rooster and you know chickens okay so but no it was really something and what was really good is to see all the students that were there volunteering their time to work in the garden and to do the work it was great I mean I'm watching these kids prepare the foods they're chopping the the vegetables they're working with the meat and getting the chickens and skewered and and then they served everything and it was just really really something you know great to see and I think the farm is already a success and it's just going to get better and better and you know and so um I really enjoyed that and they're planning on having I think what five more dinners so they want to let a lot more people see this and and you know realize how successful we are doing um I did also go to I tried to make the Magnolia back to school I was home from vacation but being Grace that afternoon I tripped on the hose and sprained my ankle and I just could not imagine walking around at back to school so I didn't make it but I felt kind of bad about that um and that's that's about all that I did I did go to a meeting I think I went to the insurance meeting we've which why did we have we canceled both October and November because the committee already met and the decision already was recommended that decisions are ready okay the prior one so everybody got together they were able to do that the last meeting okay you guys were efficient you got it you're very efficient yes all right I mean but it's just like wow two months okay and then I think I had a discipline meeting I'm not sure I made that one either but I did take two vacations and so it was kind of in between times so I thought you're always on vacation I'm not always okay time okay I have a job hey I get up every morning at the same time and walk my and I take care of my granddaughter I feed her breakfast Comer hair and walk her to school that's my morning what a fantastic way to start the day believe me I am blessed I love it all right and thank you Miss Piercy our our 15 year old uh that you know our athlete here Dad was one of my students hey Mrs piercing you are my art teacher I [Laughter] don't and it's always so neat that's that's just having been a teacher in the community I just I I love it when they let me know they had been in my class and I am just also very flattered that they still recognize me because that was a long time ago earned your vacations okay right I'm retired sorta all right thank you Mr Randall Taylor okay okay uh I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Dr Doe's grand opening for his Dental business and Dr doe is a wonderful contributor to our students in the VSA clubs and so one we wanted to go and represent the district and pay him Hardy congratulations on his business and he promised to continue donating but our students our gift to him that evening was to provide our students entertainment and so our VSA traditional dance club danced and our drummers played and our lion dancers students performed and they had to add lib a little bit because the emcee I forget his name but he's very well known in community and he made the the lion dancers like do an extra you know vamp a little bit while he was talking and our drummers uh do drum roll and and he invited the lion dancers to kind of uh invite the crowd to go in and follow behind them so the kids were kind of put to task you know it's all show business they have to be on and ready to go but they they did a great job and so it was an honor for for me to be there to uh to to congratulate him on his uh Beautiful dental lab it's it's huge um all the all the lion dancers fit in there and the crowd followed behind them so yeah it's a really huge huge business but he promises to continue to um to help our students out uh attended our ROP meeting last night and of course ROP are fantastic Partners were very very impressed with the crowds at our at our College and Career Fair and I was really impressed seeing all of their representation and they said that everyone who who was there teachers and students just had a really really great time and and congratulations to the team I mean I have we got our final numbers yet Carlos yeah over 10 000.

favor Melinda sabrowski hi is that Alex I Amanda Eamon I Anna Boyd hi Charlene Diaz aye Corey Burgess okay okay is this really what our lives are coming through you know you guys sat me down here on the end so you know what's going to happen right nobody put baby in the corner yeah you put me in the corner I come out fighting all right 8.1 okay never let it be said that this board takes itself too seriously sometimes item 8.1 uh student conduct issues and concerns Mr Burgess I had actually had this put on the agenda so may I speak first please okay um Carolyn gave us an article from The Washington Post and I think that her intent this is my my thinking so I'm not sure but I think her intent was to show that we who are having um employment problems we're employing but I was devastated and I was not devastated necessarily because we didn't have the teachers involved I was devastated because it was not complementary in any shape or form it called us uh it pointed out teacher sorted it talked about student Behavior and it talked about having being considered a failing school district or suitable system so what I'm going to propose is that we come up with a program that would perhaps help us with some discipline and some of it is going backward a little bit I believe that my first prong of this thing is to put together an alternative school a separate school from us and I believe that Charlene you were here when we had an alternative school School well no this is a different alternative school and I'd like and I I asked Cindy Cochran to be here tonight because she ran it is a whole different School than what we have right now so I'd like you to and Carolyn I'm not sure were you here when we had the alternative school I was and I will tell you that that what I I know what we are and I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything but I understand what you think our alternative school is like because of what it's been the last few years what I will say to you is that what it is now is not what it has been the last few years and uh and it is much closer to what and Cynthia's shaking her head nodding her head as well um uh we're well on the way to having a an alternative setting that helps students change behaviors and make better choices and and that kind of thing and and um uh so I understand what your perception is from the last few years what I'm suggesting is that that's not what we have these days and uh and it is a it is a much you know a much more structured environment and much more much more focused on helping student truly helping students change their behaviors do we have any data coming out of that well we've only had kids in there for about three weeks okay okay and uh um and I appreciate what you're saying about uh about us beefing things up and that's our intent Mr Osuna and Mr Eastman and Miss Cochran and and Miss Patterson particularly because that's where we've been having the issues and and really and what I mean by beefing it up is in spite of the fact that we really would like to have restorative kinds of things and have kids involved in in US establishing uh the kind of culture we want at the school but right now what we need is to send very loud messages to kids and parents that we're not going to tolerate the levels of disruption and the levels of disrespect and and the levels of of substance abuse which is which is a form of disrespect and uh whatever and then any aggressive behaviors we're having on the campus obviously send those messages without blowing a whistle in class absolutely you know absolutely I mean we we talk about the the major consequences but also what are we doing to deter those because one of the things that was brought up was Fentanyl and that that's something we're addressing at the high school level too that I mean the high school school board was just talking about it again also and that being such a big thing and and the scare right now is everybody has to have conversations with their their children Halloween's coming up and you have to worry about them looking like Smarties and being handed out for candy and so I mean can we get someone in to talk can we get someone into these programs and and I'm not saying K4 but like five six seven like can we get them in sooner than later and start talking to them about these things and and you know and they're and they're working on both sites have have started uh the process Cynthia had a family uh uh parent meeting this week and had outstanding attendance um and you and I you all are Educators so you know how difficult it is sometimes to get parents to come starting at about fifth grade and certainly uh more difficult on up I know that Fox Creek is a really pushing for apparent uh apparent night to talk about these issues um and Melinda you know I I didn't contact Washington Post they contacted me and and whatever and uh and Eli will be back the reporter will be back um yeah I was a little stunned about the way it came out on the other hand I taught Nicole I taught in those classrooms that that teacher came to teach in and those those kids had had different teachers every day since the beginning of school they don't represent the whole student body and yet you're right it the brutal truth that came in the article made it sound like they did but I went up there and I taught in a different classroom as a volunteer and I had the same problems not just one classroom no no it isn't it is you know when you when you start looking at these papers right you know 105 discipline referrals in less than 30 days you know I mean and you're going to see more five I mean you're going to see more one of the things that we've been and and I hesitate to say soft because I I don't want to throw Mr Osuna under the bus because he doesn't deserve that but I know that effective what last week Mr Osuna that he and Mr Eastman decided that if a student is actually sent out of a class for being disruptive they're going home it's not in school suspension it's not talk to them and go back to class it is their going home because that generates a conversation with the family parents need to be parents need to be working with us they need to be part of the solution with their kids and uh and and the other thing I really want to say we have seen no sign of fentanyl in our schools so I want you to know that I asked the officer that simply because they've been the both sites have been trying to get arranged for the dogs to come and do sweeps on campus part of it is raise the raise the level of awareness and anxiety of the students a little bit and I'm sorry to say it that way but that's kind of what you have to do but I also wanted to know if fentanyl were showing up is the dog capable of identifying that and if we've had the issues we have the issues with marijuana and we have the issues with vaping and it's not always marijuana vaping but even vaping in anything is dangerous for kids nobody knows what's in those vape pens or the wax pens and and it's and I sent you photos of all of the different ways that they hide uh those drugs you know even things that look like a wristwatch and they charge like USB ports and they put them in the computers and they charge them just like they're anything else yeah and so uh you know so this has been a wake-up call for us to make some changes I just want to say something is that I know you said K4 probably shouldn't but I will tell you that I personally have had conversations with my third grade grandson sixth grade granddaughter and um High School granddaughter and you know specifically talked about fentanyl specifically talked about don't take things from people don't you know don't drink anything you know you have to as parents grandparents you have to have those conversations with them yes you can't just assume they're gonna know so what I would say is I'm not opposed to that but maybe that's an end of the fourth grade going into fifth grade or that's some some literature and some things that we can send home with parents we can post on our social media we can send you newsletters out you know we can get what it looks like what it happens what the effects are you know what do you do if your friend all of a sudden is laying on the ground unresponsive you don't just stand there and go oh I don't want to get in trouble like those types of conversations those are tough conversations to have with little kids like I've had them with my kids since they were little like being in education I tell my kids all the time do not leave your backpacks unattended do not leave your car unlocked do not do these things because people are mean they're gonna get into your stuff they're gonna they could put stuff in your items and in your belongings you know or transfer something out you know um do we have ones in our in our four eight do we utilize those often yes okay and then my other question is since we're we're starting to do like sending them home and stuff do we use Behavior contracts at all yes okay and how stringent are our Behavior contracts like does that include like discipline whether it's minor all the way up okay does that include grades and attendance and tardies we use it for attendance as well because okay just something I've just to add into what what's going on my concern and I understand where Mr Rossi is coming from this um few years ago we had at Fox Creek you weren't Administration there but we had 2500 write-ups in one year it was it was Mayhem it was Mayhem we now have those students at the high school when they don't know that there's uh repercussions for their actions we had students that were getting 40 and 50 write-ups and my question then was why are we not seeing this at the board how is it possible that somebody can get 40 write-ups and we don't know about it um I just just listening to the alternative school I remember the pathways program and I think that's what we called it when it was here we did um and personally I loved it I loved it because um in in the classroom setting your entire Dynamics change removing that one student it changes now we we do have to think about you know what we're doing with all these kids and and how we're educating all those kids I get that but I just can say that me as a board member would absolutely support sending them down the road if they don't want to be an active participant of what's going on in our classrooms I would sit here tell whatever hours it took in hearings if need be and send that message that this is not going to be tolerated I am fully behind that um I wouldn't be but I wouldn't we've got the location I wouldn't you know I I like that I like the pathways program that we had back then I did the problem being in a Cynthia probably will tell you is that personnel and and trying to staff that with and they have to be very specific type of personnel to deal with behavior issues and those types of things you know we're having hard enough time getting teachers into a regular classroom so you know I I'm not opposed to that but we need to consider the fact that okay we still have to staff it I wouldn't I would invite you to come see how it is run now and I will tell you we have excellent personnel and and having been a principal and occasionally getting students back from Pathways unfortunately most of the time they came back the same way they left so but what I want to see is that they go and there has to be the consequence but then there also has to be something to help them change their behaviors change their uh their reactions to things and and that's the balance we're trying trying to find so Carolyn yeah because we do have a a shortage of counselors why can't we why can't we partner with Mojave mental health absolutely behavioral why can't we actually bring them into the school and we've been having that they did that last year we had I mean on a regular basis not just monthly but I mean on a regular basis once or twice a week have a group of kids if we're talking about kids who have lost a year because of covid a year of social emotional development then we need to be providing that yes and the third thing I think we need to make parents uh accountable yes absolutely and then make them accountable and I like the idea of sending them home um I um the the new New Leaf we've turned in our in our community with the truancy is Heaven Sent um and and I can tell you that it's it's an eye-opener for kids when they get to go to court now and it's discussed and you will be at school here are your consequences now is successful with every kid absolutely not there is no perfect program but we can't ignore the problem because other things haven't worked we have to keep trying to come up with a new one and maybe and I like this if you're if yours if we got this problem but this three strike thing you said that's big to me I mean if you're if you're a repetitive problem this we got to figure something else so that would kind of be my follow-up is how many strikes do they get going up to the three strike rule then well that's and that's the thing that if we're giving them 15 strikes and then they get three more okay well I got 17 before I had anything happen to me so and that's the thing that they would be if the breaks there that's the thing they've beefed up is that um uh and if you noticed if you noticed in the handbooks this year we took out that that table that said you know here's what happens first here's what happens second and not that they don't use that there are times when it's appropriate and you need to use Progressive discipline but there are times when it's appropriate that you cut to the Chase and and Melinda I really appreciate what you're saying about the counseling thing um and and this new this policy uh is is one that legally lets us it kind of gives us as a school district a little bit of teeth to help parents move in that direction and I I think the more times we get the parents involved early the more times that kids are going to be more successful number one the individual kids involved but it's going to make a much better environment for all of the rest of the kids who are coming to school and who are behaving well and if I could just you know on a positive note here a lot of the kids that are at Fox Creek went through Diamondback while I was still there and there's some really great kids they're the the article that was written was awful and it was not only embarrassing to Fox Creek and this District but to the kids who go to that school and are well behaved right and and but I want people to know that there really are some great kids at Fox Creek and and the high school will be getting some great eighth graders and that's and that's one of the reasons it's the bad ones that's one of the reasons that the reporter is coming back he knew that because he told me afterwards he said you know I know I saw a microcosm I know I saw just this one set of kids you know for this one teacher I know that the school is full of other kids and it's one of the reasons that he is coming back he wants to follow up he wants to show successful kids he wants to show successful teachers and uh um so and he's not just coming back once he's coming back multiple times to show that progress um and so you know um we're hopeful that that happens and on that note I I clarify what I was saying we have some amazing amazing students in in this District in our high school district I wouldn't keep doing this profession if we didn't because that's why I do it uh the kids we have phenomenal phenomenal kids um that every day put a smile on my face you know no matter how bad my day is going no matter what's going on we got amazing youth in this community but we need to provide the best we can for those youth and if we have some that don't want to be part of the program I'm glad we're putting this in place and and we're going to knuckle down on it if you don't want to be part of this program hey you don't have to be part of this program but let's not take away from those kids that do we have to focus on that that is our goal is because when they see what they're missing out on we will bring some of them back um that's that's my feeling on that okay so okay yeah no I'm like sitting here like okay all right so there's a couple things that I wanted to say uh first though I did want to point out um one of the things that when they came and they talked about fentanyl at Mojave High School and drugs there was a lot of students at the high school level that were not aware of the law that protects them I don't remember what it's called you'd have to find them they weren't actually huh when did they talk to the kids I think it was the last year was it when they did it when the fentanyl people came I know that they did it was two years ago was it two years ago but I remember and I I mentioned it every single year and there's still kids who are not aware of that law so just to make sure that they understand that if someone because that's the main reason they don't report is because they're afraid that they're going to get in trouble so they need to unders remind them like on a reg because like I said I kind of bring this up I think someone mentioned something in a class at least once a month and this law this gets up and there's one kid who was not paying attention the last time that's like oh that's a thing yeah for the 10th time that's the thing um anyway so just to make sure that that's out there and um but I will say okay so in regards to the article because I wanted to point this out because I'm hearing what everybody's saying and stuff like that so when I read the article um I actually personally and I spoke to a lot of people who did read the article they actually felt more sympathetic towards what was going on um and in fact they were actually quite proud of of the fact that what you guys have been handling and what you've been going through and the stuff going on not necessarily the behavior of the kids because they understand but they're like gosh you know I wasn't aware that they were going through that kind of stress that kind of environment where you know you just you don't have the teachers and you're trying to get these teachers and you have teachers that I mean we've been there at Mojave where it's like everybody's prepping everybody's watching a class during prep when things were bad during the covet time and so um you know I didn't really get the impression that he was trying I don't feel like okay and I'm not a fan of the Washington Post so I'll throw it out there but I didn't get the impression that he was trying to be uncomplementary to our school or to Fox Creek I think it was more like he was trying to be more uncomplementary to the American education system in general um you know um be uncomplementary yeah yeah I think what he was observing and what he saw it came out it was just so bad well I mean I don't know it's like a lot of us that read it when we read it we felt more like it was like pointing out the fact that America completely forgot that there was a covid year they completely forgot a lot of this the lack of uh in classroom time that these kids had especially if you think about the junior high age and the that younger fourth fifth grade and then they get into that Junior High this is when they're learning how to socialize really and and that the hormonal changes that are going on and then to not have that to not have those experiences at such a young age I mean we're seeing it at the high school though we're seeing it's almost like kids you know you feel like for years as a high school teacher I felt like as kids go through Junior High that's when they they you know experience the meanness and the the grumpiness and all of those things that happened during Junior High where we're pretty sure they've learned nothing but how to survive and then they come into high school and those survival skills kick again do you know what I mean and they they start learning how to be adults and now we've got freshmen and even sophomores that are like Junior High kids right now at Mojave so it's like they didn't get to experience the I don't know the trauma that happens in junior high or whatever that we would think of that happens and so I I don't think so I just wanted to point out because I felt like a lot of it was like like you know almost like that I know I don't know like but but like dissing on Fox Creek in a way but I didn't get that impression and most of the people I know that's that read it that uh actually felt more compassionate towards Fox Creek passion about what's happening and I agree with a lot of the different suggestions on how to handle the behavior it definitely needs to be because we've gotten to the point where we've gotten a little I think a lot of it people have gotten we have gotten a little soft and because you know of the stuff that's happened so they have to understand that their behavior needs to be in check so all of those things but my biggest concern was I just wanted Fox Creek to know and you guys to know that there's a lot of people who actually felt very compassionate about what was happening they didn't feel it was like completely uncomplementary towards Fox Creek just in general education and and the amount of efforts like you going to Las Vegas to pick up this teacher and the hours that you guys are working to get all this stuff done I felt I actually didn't feel like it was uncomplimentary I felt like it was yeah you guys are kind of screwed and you're dealing with it the best you can Amanda before you speak let me could I please put something in and thank you thank you thank you Anna thank you Anna because I will tell you that I I experience what you all have experienced a little bit of embarrassment and that kind of thing and I spent quite a bit of time with the reporter um uh and I and and I'm not trying to defend him necessarily but he internalized a whole lot of what you just said I will tell you that every email that I've received or phone call that I've received about the article has been positive has been the kind of thing that that Anna is saying that um wow look at what look at the wonderful things your teachers were doing to to you know to take care of these issues look at what they're doing to support our Filipino teachers who are you know coming to coming to 7 000 miles from you know from home and and whatever and and a number of other things and that's not just the emails I two people approached me yesterday at a couple of different meetings so um I think our responses are are legitimate but it's also nice to hear the other side you know other folks what for them is legitimate and and kind of reinforces some of the good things we're doing so thanks for giving me that yes I do thank you right ahead I've got something to say to you um so I actually thought I was going to be kind of and not maybe unpopular you know opinion but um you know I did see a lot of good in that article and I had some people mixed emotions with the way the article went however the only thing I have to say that the super positive for me is we're having this conversation now yes so that's that it's it's it's kind of almost I'll just say I'm happy I won't say it's kind of sad I'm happy that now it's brought a conversation to the table for different reasons like and yes uh we've gone through a lot we know we've we've been through with you know Filipino teachers picking them up I mean shoot we uh we even help you know get items formed so they can move in ready and those types of things and help them out however the issues in the classrooms and the things the disruptive and the disrespect and the aggressive behaviors and to hear that we've now put some some things in place to deter those at a quicker rate is what I'm looking at the positive right now because that's the thing that we're having the issue with you know but you know going back to it too is we set up here we're five Educators former Educators still Educators what not I mean but have we talked with any of our staff members on ideas they might have to help you know to to get feedback from you know that the middle school and the junior high you know or talk to the students I mean we've like we said we've we've set up here we've got some great students you know but a lot can be learned from also the students that are getting in trouble like you know the whys and the behavior and how can we deter that behavior how can we help stop someone from doing this in the future um I know that's a lot and that takes time and what you guys don't have is a lot of time in your day with as much as you have to deal with two of you with with all of it but um I mean I think that we could all benefit from receiving some of that information from outside sources instead of you know the well five six of us sitting up here even Mr Valdez speaking earlier about the issues that are happening like those are important to hear and maybe we can create an outlet that people can submit information and ideas to us or thoughts or practices that they've seen work we've got people moving to our community left and right and they might bring an idea from outside the community that works really well like is there something we can do to set up and facilitate that information that's why they're trying to have parent meetings and get parents there Cynthia do you have any idea how many parents were you meeting last night Oh I thought you had a lot a lot a lot ah okay okay but even getting that many I mean those of us at this at this Podium who've been administrators know you were happy to get five but a lot of people have access to things absolutely we had a uh come talk to a survey an opinion something I mean and I'd like to throw a real positive thing in this because I've heard this from not just Jesus and uh unless but I've heard it from Cynthia and Tammy and I've actually heard it from our elementary principals as well some of them were here and left um this year we've had more instances of students coming forward to talk to their teachers and to their administrators and say I'm not real happy because so-and-so is doing such and such we've had more instances of parents calling and saying my child has reported blah blah blah whereas in the past we were seeing that on Facebook or on social media and and Lance was telling us about it because he monitors that for us then then we were getting it directly so I want you to know that there is there's this it's not a balance yet we're not there but it certainly has been improved this year year in terms of getting of folks saying wait a minute we want the culture of our schools to be better than they've been and and so you know we need to weigh that in as well probably not a a um popular statement but two things I have the same I understand we spent two years with the whole covid thing but when did being disrespectful to an adult being rude or disruptive in a classroom how did that I understand academics are behind but that never has ever been something that was appropriate no no I put that on student accountability and parent accountability because without those two things we're not going to get very far students need to be accountable and parents need to be accountable for their children's Behavior yeah it's never been okay to be rude or disrespectful to an adult and that just just you know that wasn't what I I was actually just saying about the article being complimentary I wasn't addressing the discipline you had talked about coveting yeah and I've heard you know okay yes yeah I know academics are behind because of the two years lack in in education but discipline didn't go away that didn't stop no so and so I I'm just it's mind-boggling to me how students feel it's okay to talk to an adult in that manner Okay so we've done lots and lots of discussions so solution times yeah we've talked about alternative um School alternative you know the pathways um Mrs Swarovski brought up um is there any way that you know starting with disseminating information get it in the hands of the parents tell them what we're doing maybe that information maybe we can utilize Lance Ross and you know hey we have public information officer right maybe we can work with Lance and Lance can start putting together like Hot Topic issues or hot button items that we have such as the way Fox Creek has altered their discipline parents beware this is going to happen because I will tell you that not that I wouldn't hold my kid accountable but when changes happen at a school and I'm not communicated I can't support you so if I'm told and I know then I can support you I can follow that new rule that new procedure we won't call it a policy because you know those come from us but that new procedure that new rule that's implemented so if we want parents to buy in and be accountable that we need to start making sure that they're communicated with so if we can talk about that new change if we can talk about you know putting things out there um you know if we talk about drugs alcohol the fact that we have ones the fact that we will probably have drug dogs come on campus um you know that type of stuff what other Solutions do we have to help Bridge some of this and and you know or even just thoughts like to help yeah I would be interested if there are any because this is definitely this is definitely systemic in regards to the United like the United States and Arizona and things like that you know if there's any other like any researcher it's probably early to say research if you will but any other schools or anything that are dealing with this and the solutions that they have had like anything that they've had that's working if there's any of our partner schools or any of the ones that we've talked to or whatever like that to see if maybe they are dealing with the same thing and how have they handled it well that's one of the reasons that we instituted this year a whole training for our administrators for a restorative justice to start moving in that direction and um uh and that's a that's a three to that's a three to four year old three to four year process so this year it was you know this year has been working on on training us and getting us all on board with that and start moving in that direction I'm changing our mindset and in changing some mindset because as part of that process is that you get to the place where students are really part of I hesitate to say discipline but part of the process of resolving issues and helping with that whole process rather than rather than just adults expecting students to behave and they're being only negative consequences so uh you know so we we're we already have that in action and that is that is 20 25 years worth of research backing that up and so we don't want to abandon that but it but at the same time you've got to get yourself we have to get ourselves to some somewhat of a Level Playing Field as Corey says you know if you and I'll use another I'll use another metaphor if you want to be on our bus then you have to play by our rules you know there's a seat for everybody on our bus um if you choose to be on our bus but if you're choosing not to be on our bus then you know then if you're not choosing to follow what is acceptable what is an acceptable set of behaviors on our bus then maybe you need to get off our bus um and and that you know that that borders on us saying that whole well you know if you don't like it here go somewhere else well none of us like that none of us like that statement necessarily but sometimes that's where you have to go so yes we're that is all based on research and we want to move in that direction but right now we need to right now we need to grab things by the bootstraps and and Melinda thankfully asked to have this on the agenda and I'm really glad it's I'm really glad it's here and partly because my thought is the community needs to hear that you all are on this same page that you all are uh that you all are supporting the idea of what our folks are trying to do what our leaders and the and Fox Creek in in the middle school and the elementaries for that matter have in fact been discussing this with their faculties and getting their input into it so uh uh you all have heard this from folks before and you know the the whole well I you know and principals hear it all the time uh well I don't like I don't like what you're telling me I'm going to go to the board this is getting in front of that this is if you all are making the statements you are making where you're really saying to the public um you're not going to get a real good ear from us you know if you if you think you're going to come to us as a board uh and and that we're going to overrule some you know some strength at our sights then you're coming to the wrong place Carolyn can I make a suggestion absolutely that we that we actually put together some kind of a meeting a town hall type thing we did a nice job with the with the school thing um where we actually sit and discuss with people in the audience um some different ideas I actually put it out there and let them come in and talk to us that's that's up to you all well and I'd actually just uh I just asked Mr Burgess if we mind if you guys don't mind opening up now if anybody has anybody that stayed around for as long as they've been here if they have anything that they'd like to to add or or thoughts or anything I mean come on up all right one of those kids you guys are talking about I was one I was in trouble making I was troubled I got locked up I was incarcerated um so let me let me let me straighten this up I was a kid that was raised by my grandparents and uh I went to uh three schools got kicked out all three of them fighting and the next thing was was a probation school I was facing about 15 years and uh so what I did was I said the best thing would be for me when I got out of jail I'm gonna go directly I need to stay into a probation School they always gonna get released and I said I don't want to be released because I'm going to be a troublemaker keep me here they kept me there and I finished so today my son Angel Valdez is a great kid because I'm a parent and I was one of those kids that had the mindset of a troublemaker and to be you have to know how you have to it's like a criminal right if you think like a criminal and Catch a Criminal right so you can't discipline a criminal if you're not a criminal right so you have to have the mindset and the thing is everybody has this well we do this we do that but the thing is is you got to come together an alternative like you said is the way to do it that's a great way because the problem is is you're a kid in a class I'm like what are you gonna do send me home vacation cool let's go let's roll let's roll up let's go I got a few days off so obviously the parents don't care that's why they're in trouble so what's the point give me a notification I'll take five of them what are you into expel me what are you going to send me to where's your plan Jill let's go right there's no plan I don't know what Joe's like let's go so the plan's got to be as an alternative alternative is when I was there they had psychology there was a psychology on on-site probation officer police officers love to come in and out of the doors got to know all of them so and then they and we had great psychologists where they'd come in they would break you down talk to you why are you here how come your family is the way you are blah blah blah blah blah and you start crying and breaking down in tears and obviously you know they get to the root they find the root of the person and some of these kids are crying for help find the way it's that it's not it's not because the kid wants to be back it's what he sees at home they don't take and give the quality stuff at home and if you love your children you have to you have to step like a parent not just as a school district you have to be a parent like you have to like okay we want to be the big brother here and the only way you're going to be a big brother is you have to take that action you need to send them to psychology you have to do this stuff the parent don't want to do for them you can't just throw them so an alternative way is doing it if you don't want to listen this is the way we go and I think you're right I loved it probation school was a great thing for me I would have never finished school they straightened me up I know every probation officer there I love them what was your click what am I getting like no no no no like what clicked in your head what what made you oh say this is what I need to do in order to change when I was there uh because my grandparents were successful but my parents are drug addicts and I was Raising myself in the streets and I thought gangs was the way to ride because I was that you know the closest thing to love right every day homeboys are sitting there for me so they're always there right so that was the way I wrote and then I started getting myself in trouble with the police and I said well you know what obviously the cops are not gonna you know when you're sitting there and you're like well you know you're facing the 10th of manslaughter at like 14 15 16 years old facing almost 15 years in prison you're really starting doing my by yourself you know now you're really thinking like I'm In These Bars by myself sitting here nobody cares nobody there for you nobody there you gotta sell blocks and all you can do is defend yourself all the time so then I started thinking you know what this is not for me I gotta make it I gotta make a change so it had to go to that level and then when I got out I was already I was already involved in the probation school and then they sent me and they said I was on summary probation and then I went from summary and escalated the informal and I said you know what I want to stay on probation because with my attitude I'm gonna be gone forever keep me here so I actually became best friends with the teachers the police officers they were letting me go to school get out early they said do what you want to do and I loved it I think it was the best thing I ever did okay they gave me letters to go to the court they sponged my record and you know what I'm a good father to this day I have a business here in town and I think the best thing is for is an alternative way you have to reach these kids you got to pull the kids that need the help I was one of them I was looking for attention didn't know where it was at I find it in the streets I'm a kid I'm a child I don't know better and you know what there's there's people in these programs that say I love these kids they need help they need a counselor and they need to be talked to that's what they need it's not because they want to just be a troublemaker they don't know the difference they don't have a good father you know I take a lot of my my son's friends and it's so sad I've seen so many friends I've had of his and we take them we give them shoes we give them clothes and it's not the parents don't even care I've been literally taking buying stuff and they don't care and so I said Angel you know you got to kind of pick and choose your friends and and since I came from that life I know how to raise my kids I know I know the way to get around the routes to show him the right way and I tell him I look this is what Dad been through I don't hide it from him let you know this is the life you want to live like this this is what's going to happen believe me I didn't care I would stand up I would love I would fight anybody adult I was in back of police cars with heaters on you name it I wasn't they put me in I was in jail inside of a jail they locked me up in the shoe program they couldn't even control me I had crickets jumping on me in underwear so the thing is is you have to really reach these kids so what you're saying is find the why find the why find the why and you got to be hard you have to be hard if you're too easy believe me we look for ways to get away right well let's just do what we want do this and it's not the right way well thank you for sharing we appreciate that yeah so you know that's I'm sorry this come up here that's okay everybody but do what you guys think is best but you have a unique perspective you have a unique perspective and that's good to hear so so thank you who's the best person yeah see thank you thank you and these life experiences are what we need to tap into yeah I'm a good man you know that's why I'm standing here in front of you guys so take it how you want thank you thank you guys thank you very much thank you we should tap into some folks who have those kinds of experiences to talk with our kids no and and um and and that's a you know that's a good thing so uh we're we're going to be in touch so maybe Pathways is something we need to look at well or see if that's if we're closer to that with what we're doing and if we're not make some adjustments yep hi barbs there's Vicky retired Junior High teacher uh 25 years or 25 years in the area here um I when I was teaching at Junior High we had Pathways I found it to be very successful with the alternative school for those kids because the thing is is like Mr Valdez said you know a lot of the kids oh we get out of school suspension vacation time and we're out on the streets and stuff we're in Pathways they were working with the kids teaching them their behaviors and Stuff Plus keeping their educational things up and what good does it do for us to expel the kids and put them out on the street and not have any alternative education for them to be getting because then we're going to have them in the jail or we're going to have them you know not one of our better citizens and stuff but I always found that probably 95 percent of the kids that came back into my classroom after being in pathways they they were they their class their education was still up to par and their behavior definitely made a big change in stuff and so you know for all the years I was there I always found the pathway to be to be a good good alternative because who's ever running it that's the one thing you have to make sure is whoever runs it has to be a very strict disciplinarian you can't get somebody in there that the kids can wish wash and you know they want to be the kids friends you're going to have to have a strong disciplinary like we could you know you have to have like the Marines the next marine and they're running it or something but you know and and the thing I'd like to see is if you know if we put them in a pathway situation and if there's some way with the pathways instead of have if we could get some type of association with an online schooling like K-12 or something so that if these kids don't succeed in Pathways and they end up being expelled at least you've got them started on an outside type of education that they could continue on when they if they're expelled so that there is something out there for them to go rather than just going out and having no future education at all but let them be because they'll be already enrolled in those online classes and but you know the main thing like Mr Valdez said too parent involvement you've got to have the parent involvement in there and I think Pathways the alternative schools are the way to go on that thank you thank you this stuff that's good I do like the idea of a town hall so let's uh see if we can put that together okay um and um any objections to that none all right awesome okay thank you again community members for sharing with us we appreciate it yeah I mean I'm not sure exactly what Pathways was because I I wasn't here I didn't see them I was in your class but I didn't see or notice so I do know we had it at the high school when I was there and they called it a Bridgeway or whatever it was or it was something Bridge it was in the bus barn way back when and it was the alternative school um and it separated the students and they earned their way back um if they wanted to be socialized with their students normalized in that um but I like the idea of having someone there that's structured I mean maybe it's not necessary necessarily like a PO but somebody who has a background do that strength and you know you could have it like a crushed Academy or a Life Academy type um online program with the mental health available and also with you know maybe a direct line with someone with probation and working with them and explaining where they could end up Kate has that arranged already there there are big changes already can we get Kate to do a little presentation for us maybe there we go good job yeah instead of us speculating about 500 things because it says that you know what I mean let's let's know what she's actually absolutely Kate could do that because there have been because people come with all this and she's usually here so I mean she would have been like hey I got this but she does yeah and and for example and this will this will give you an example just one example of how it's different so when the students come to to Life Academy this year backpacks phones everything gets checked in in the office they go to class with a pen or pencil and a notebook and uh that's it and uh and then um they also know that it's kind of their last shot at some things so there was an incident this week with a with a student who got very violent and that student was sent home and and the family was told you know this was kind of your last shot already anyway and uh so you know if the student is coming back here are the changes that have to happen so much different structure than we had the last few years let's do it yeah all right thank you we'll get Kent yeah we can get uh Kate to present all right 8.2 annual Financial reports Mr President and board members excuse me we have to file the annual financial report so this is work that Jenny Beck's been working on and we've had a lot of assistance this year from our uh our Consultants at heinfeld meech because this is a very complicated and precise process so you have I have documents for you to sign this is just kind of our internal audit of how we spent funds this past year in fiscal year 22.

know it's it's not an easy thing with the resources that we have and the kind of hybrid situation that we have also to set this up in such a way that um you know it provides for a fairly smooth process so I think our team has done everything they can my personal opinion I think it's a diminished experience for the public visually but that's just the limitations of what we have right now um but the audio works well and I think in terms of communicating the content of Any Given agenda that um it works well so I just again really want to thank our team for for taking the time taking the effort to put this all together and and have it run smoothly to the best of their ability so so thank you staff for all your hard work here here thank you to our Tech folks and our put in the work to wow fantastic it was just absolutely amazing and everything that I have always envisioned you know that that to be it was bustling um I I used to get on um kind of our administrators because it was kind of like a fun meeting place for them at times and then um and it kind of became like that for them but I saw all of our administrators working really hard and I loved as we as we walked in seeing all of our schools that was just perfect and the collaboration and the engagement with our parents and our students I love that they checked in and so it gave him really an opportunity to go up and talk to the counselors that were there and then behind that were oh my gosh a bajillion colleges that showed up it was just an amazing amazing event and then behind that was the ROP and Military and I mean just bustling I didn't get to see it all it was huge I didn't get to see it all and there were so many people I'm engaging and um gosh congratulations you hit it out of the park and I um I couldn't have been pleased it was just an amazing thing and really I think our ROP Partners were just so proud to be a part of it so they were really congratulating us and the team so I'm bringing you their thanks and their congratulations for a wonderful event I had the opportunity to attend the LVN graduation the ROP graduation that they have for their adult LVN programs and this one was a special one because during Cove vid the students were not able to do their hours that they that they have to complete to get that certificate and so it took them like 18 months to to finish the courses and so um it was it was really special and we hosted it at uh Kennedy High School and our op was very grateful they loved the facility and our colleagues said that their that our facility was really beautiful so it was really nice to kind of shine in that way too um and then of course um I am so Overjoyed that we've got to celebrate our auhsd summer grads and it was just a perfect event um to culminate um their their success um and um Joe uh congratulations it was really tough um he was telling us it's hard to kind of gather folks after they've left us and and get them back but they put on a wonderful event several students came and their families to celebrate um you know an event that is so special so special for our our graduates and um and they didn't get to to miss out and the student speaker reminded us just how precious this event was for him and just reminding us that it's not always the students that we think are the ones that are in need of this special event there are several reasons why our students need this event and I really hope we continue we continue this event I just wanted to show off um that I went to went through and was able to go to the Gilbert Booth ROP and they they have started an entrepreneurship um pathway and there is a student there and I'll tell about the other student his remarkable highlights but this this group were several uh young ladies and they had started several businesses I noticed a lot of them were selling like the long eyelashes and I kidded with them is that if I if I bought those then they'd have to give me a tutorial you know how to put them on because I haven't haven't done that in a in a long while but they were so happy and they were so enthusiastic I think this is the they had the most fun out of everybody that night but I was able to get a picture with them and they're going to come to our next ROP meeting and give a presentation of um of what they're and that's it's a I'll hold my report for what they're going to announce and what they're going to do with the proceeds that they what are you gonna do with the free sample he has another highlight so so our students are just remarkable they really are uh I think I mentioned already attended my gestapa meeting and um you know I really want to give um you know we say happy administrator week or a month or whatever we say but I'm really mean it from um within the depths of my soul I really appreciate all of our administrators in this room in this building on our campuses we couldn't have gotten through the last couple of years with your dedication your leadership um your extra hours away from your families and um you know we know um when you you do that I mean that's precious time taken away from the moments that you hold dear so so we know your time is is very valuable and so when you attend the PTA meetings dlac meetings lcat meetings parent advisory meetings you know that's that's in the evening and and it's extra um and we we really appreciate we know how dedicated you are and we thank you for that dedication um we we say we're family and you really demonstrate that each and every day so happy administrators week thank you well I don't have a lot to report I just would like to thank Dr nian for the work you do with the insurance committee it's a task that the general people in our community wouldn't even be able to understand what it takes to work through that and keep it stable which is huge and I attended the discipline committee and I always learn a lot about student Behavior and appreciate that very much and um this whole situation that occurred with Ian down in Florida and I think of so many times we tend to think inwardly of what we're dealing with in our community but when you think at large of what people in Florida have had to live through having lost their homes and everything that they owned and then we go over to Ukraine and it gives me a point of reference how fortunate we all are to live the way we do trying to strive to keep things as good as we can and and provide a good education and a safe community and and Mrs Martinez I really appreciated your daughter speaking up I didn't know your name was Martinez now I was born and raised in Martinez California so I has a special feeling for me and it was just a delight to hear her she's beautiful and I just wanted to say that the national recognition of indigenous day was so um I thought well thought out that over the years of growing up in California and traveling and seen how many of these people have been so poorly treated and just to recognize them and to give them some sort of platform to know for us to know what they have come through over many generations and I just want to say I'm grateful for the people that I work with everybody the general public has not a concept of the jobs multiple jobs that different individuals sitting up here and working in our schools a chief so I just want to say thank you we're very fortunate thank you Ms Smith Mr O'Neil sure I attended the Magnolia back to school night and uh certainly the stage is very well used the one that was designed and put out in the in the quad area which uh there was one thing I I talked to the principal about I challenged him really I said you need to think about next year of how you're going to get all those people that are in the back around the food area get them over to where they can see the performances by the students like it was mentioned about line dancers they were there that evening did a great job so uh Aaron I I've bugged his ear put a bug in his ear and so he's he's thinking about how I said move the tables over you know closer to the to the theater something wrap it around so he's thinking I'm sure it'll be a little different next year but they did a great job um and it's a good turnout too uh the Anaheim collaborative at Fullerton College I attended the the opening of that that was that was um I had not attended before uh I thought there would be more people there but I know that it's a good beginning and I know that next year um from you know a future years that um there'll be probably more people there as the word gets out about really how important it is and and it's a very positive I think event for the for the parents uh summer school graduation as was mentioned I thought that was a great event uh for the um for the kids that that didn't graduate in June or excuse me in May but did finish up their their credits and and they earned the right to graduate so maybe next year we're able to get the word out I don't know when we got the word out to them about uh the actual having a ceremony specifically for them that but maybe we can get it out earlier so that as they're moving through the process of getting their credits and the parents know that that they could that there will be something for them at the end of their I guess uh certification process I attended the uh the principal breakfast put on by the PTA and I'm secondary Council as Jesse said always a very nice event and uh um after that I attended the principals meeting for a while and uh it's it's always a a pleasure to be able to sit there and listen and um you sort of uh it's amazing to see and hear what is being presented to the principals and was it expected of our administrators and it's always an education I'm glad they're the administrators and not me College and Career Fair as Mr Ronald Trail said was just phenomenal I especially liked when you walked in the door she said and you were faced with all the schools there and you could feel not just see what you could feel the enthusiasm as you walk through and it wasn't from the students who were there but it was from the staff the principals uh all the all the presenters that were there behind the tables so it was really an amazing experience and and it was I was parking in parking lot four I almost didn't get a parking spot and then I heard that there were three two of the parking spots or parking lots available but I'm sure they were probably just as full as that one so you we probably need a fourth parking lot for next year um I attended the La Palma state of the city event uh Tuesday night and happy to say that financially they are in excellent shape when I was on Council we had like a 28 percent uh Reserve they have 123 percent Reserve that's probably the best in Orange County and they're very proud of it that they can I don't know what was Cyprus do you know but yeah I know but we thought it was pretty good when we were when we were about 28 when I was there in fact people are saying why are you holding your money you're right um I had the pleasure of uh jury duty and uh I got there and I I had someone had told me he said you know uh when you get older you don't have to go so I went there and I was listening somebody asked is there an age limit and they said nope you could be 100 years old and you're still going to be called jury duty I said oh well I'm not there yet but it was interesting I did I came that close to being uh impaneled I was on the the alternate and they had to pick two out of the six and after the judge and the the two attorneys collaborated they came back and I was one of the ones that got dismissed so I I was only there for two days but it's always a it's not just a pleasure I feel it's a responsibility to a duty to to do that and then I attended an Air Force officer's retirement and I hadn't been to an officer before I had been to a an Alyssa man my son my son my cousin was a chief senior chief petty officer in the Navy and I got to participate in that a few years ago but my next-door neighbor retired as a major in the Air Force so it was a very nice event and his uh I guess he'd be well it's just Superior I don't know if it was his his CEO he started from when he was in high school went up to present day without a single note I mean it was just like how did he do he like he grew up with the guy and he's only known him for four years so I asked him after I said how did you do that he says a lot of memory work but he did a fantastic job and this guy my neighbor cyber security and so I've talked to him over the years without over the he's been there for three years without really knowing exactly what he's doing and of course I still don't know exactly what he was doing but what was told what he was doing he was saving the world literally on a daily basis monitoring a little tremble in the in the earth and they would know what it was where it came from and what what took place to cause that I mean it was amazing satellites just you name it and we felt really good that we were in good hands when we heard what was going on and of course a person that took over from him I hope he's as good as he is so he was very happy full uniform jumped in his pool he came out when he had changed he came out with another uniform but he was very excited um uh uh Miss Randall Trail mentioned about administrators and I have to uh put a tag onto that fantastic what what the administrators do in this district and in all districts really but we know that that ours are are Cut Above what we have seen and and read about so kudos to all of you and thank you so much and then I have something I want to ask about it's not on the calendar yet or should it on the agenda but it is a calendar for next month or next year and I've already asked somebody in this room and I came back with an answer but I'm going to throw something out just to think about uh in July we have a July 13th and July 20th and I understand why the July 20th is there it's it's the leadership advance but I am looking at coming back from vacation the night of July 12th so I mean it's it's humanly possible to come to the meeting the next day but it sure be nice to have a few days in between if it could be the next Monday or Tuesday or even if it was a even that Friday anyhow just think about it something if it can't be done it can't be done so I just want to throw that out because in December we'll be making some decisions but so I'm giving a couple months to for the for the district to think about it it would help me out a little bit so I think that brings me to an end thank you so much all right thank you Mr O'Neill all right so uh I'll start off with uh ROP I know we had our ROP meeting yesterday but um those of you who didn't know and who served on our uh the ROP board uh Dr Jones uh he he was a former superintendent uh passed away and uh they just they closed the board meeting in his memory so we wanted to make sure that everybody who sat on the board I think we had a picture with Kathy Smith and Mr Jones yeah served on that board for 14 years and I don't remember a Dr Jones that is Dr Jones yeah and we actually have a picture with him and you so I know it is him and you know I'm sure he was good yeah well he was apparently a good um I mean a character right so I'm hoping that everybody remembered and they all talked about him fondly um so this uh football game season so I had attended a couple of football games for Anaheim high school and of course our um homecoming game was uh against lowera so it was a savannah so it was nice to uh actually go watch the game with their um I also attended the PTA principal meeting and then stopped by a little bit for the principal meeting probably about five minutes and then I have to leave um graduation our summer graduates it was a great and I I know that we're going to continue it but I Echo what Miss O'Neill said I think we need to make sure that we communicate to the students earlier on so that they will make an effort to come there uh graduation speech itself was awesome to see because it was a cancer surviving student who actually made us all remember what life is all about so that was awesome and to your comment on the graduation because I was thinking about this you know let them know in in May if they're going to be working on that so my idea is maybe they might want to buy their graduation outfit along with the rest of them for for when that you know summer graduation because I understand it was kind of a problem this year so maybe because they weren't they were already gone so right they were gone so that's what I'm saying so if if they're aware of it maybe at the beginning they could then have their colors and whatever so absolutely and then well I had the pleasure of um going with Carlos Hernandez and Mike matsuda and the team to actually present about our community schools program the Anaheim City council meeting I had people who actually talking about it so congratulations to us for actually presenting that to the entire city council because I know I guess it was going obviously in the loop on cable and people were watching it and I was having interactions regarding that throughout that week so great presentation and again congratulations to our team um Anaheim collaborative yeah the parent I think there was more parents after we left because I saw a picture uh which was with all the parents taken and it was a huge huge number you didn't seemed quite yeah and the theater was not probably because it was in the morning but towards the end you probably had more parents come by right in the morning yeah it could be yeah yeah I think we might want to take a look at that and make sure that we adjust those times because obviously we were throwing it for our parents so we wanted to make sure but it was nice to see the picture afterwards to say like all those parents in there so that was awesome um excuse me the food was great I didn't get to eat it I'm sorry it's terrible Gilbert High School um yeah you know I think I mentioned this probably last meeting if I didn't um went for the open house and I actually met this young gentleman who was part of the entrepreneur pathway and this gentleman had already saw a hundred thousand worth of merchandise creating his own sweatshirt so that was a awesome awesome story to actually relate to the rest of the community as well because this is Gilbert High School and we're giving opportunities for these students the interesting part was I think all of you remember we met the other gentleman who made a presentation when they made the Gilbert High School pathway there was a student who came in presented about his uh business about creating bookmarks so this gentleman had actually worked on his bookmark project as a marketer or was marketing on it and then now it's his turn so he created his own t-shirts and he's now thinking about I met him at the College and Career Fair and now he's thinking about making a line of products like hats and um different items and he's already thinking about putting it on Amazon and you know selling it through he sold most of his products in Mexico and now he's learning that you know he's making business decisions of how to make more profit so he wants to move the manufacturing toward to United States and do it over here but he wants to create a different line of products so that's the story that we really got to message to our parents and say and the community as well to talk about what we are doing in Anaheim Union High School District I was super proud and I know I even posted it on my social media and a lot of folks commented on it as well and again I was proud to attend the vocational RN graduation at Kennedy ROP board members are very happy and they were uh jealous that we had such a nice facility but it was a nice compliment no I think it's uh elvians they have it at the the the the new um it's the the uh tried in there are like yeah they closed that a long time ago I know that closed down that's why I was wondering where it was yeah so they have their new um Portables okay is it not is it new Portables or is it all portable as I come yeah oh renovated it so renovated Portables yes and then um College and Career Day Carlos and your team congratulations I think it was all uh again going to kind of I'm going to Loop that in with the administrators uh week I think we should celebrate you guys every single day this was awesome I could attest to the fact that I sent text messages at 11 o'clock at night which so I didn't expect you to return back that text at that time but you know I was just sending it out I know I've made phone calls late at night um I know everybody talks about how great of Administrators they have in their school district but I could tell you that you guys are the best that we have and we are proud to have you here at auhsd and our parents are proud to have you um because you take a lot of uh you take the brunt of the uh run of everything that comes at you so thank you for leadership appreciate it from all the way from the district to the school site so thank you guys we appreciate you all right that's my report can I add something you know I'm first to go and then I start remembering I know uh the one thing I did do because I missed and I really was kind of bummed because when I had to be out and the two times I left there were a lot of things going on I would have attended but I did go to the tour of the OC Vibe and oh that's right yes yeah and uh yeah half the you know thedias was there but that was very interesting and I read in the next couple of days that the city council passed their plan so that was a really neat in you know tour and uh it was a visual tour they gave us but how they are going to be uh re doing that entire area from the Honda Center and north and where the old Phoenix Club was all the way down to the Arctic and that whole area and what they're going to do is supposed to be phenomenal phenomenal um so I I just wanted to mention that because I thought that was really neat it passed because it's a great idea and the City Council in Anaheim evidently agreed and so they have to go ahead and they'll start working so I just wanted to mention that thank you yeah I'd like to add on to that thank you for bringing that up too because that's going to open up a expanded partnership with the samwelly family and it's going to give our aim program and all of our Pathways huge opportunities out there so we're really really excited phase one opens in 2024.

the actual Auditors are coming next month but we have to file this so this is the flip side of filing a budget uh you know of approving a budget this is the approving what we did last year okay and and so um you have summary sheets and needless to say it all it ended up balancing what we did we did have a recognize nice today Jenny's been working on the next things that are required for some reporting that has to do with the grants and a number of things and so we have one change so the page you're looking at right here page five of nine um has one of the things that she had to separate out for this other document that she's working on are any expenses that had to do with covid funding and so in the process of working on that today realize that some of the numbers on this page were not accurate so she spoke with Chris voterbeck who is the contact that we talk with all the time well not all the time but frequently when we need advice from the auditor General's office so these are the folks who create these documents and expect us to do them correctly under ordinary circumstances because it was an agendized item you would have to approve the AFR the way it's presented to you and then we would have to file a revision and bring that to you next month just like we bring budget revisions and then would have to refile that with the state the problem is the document she's working on today has to be filed tomorrow and it needs to be accurate so the auditor General's office Chris voterbeck in that office told us that if we showed you and people could see in the audience the changes in this one page that you could approve the AFR as amended tonight so the the differences are on the line uh in here line 19.
