tonight would you meet us in the uh Pledge of Allegiance please foreign reorganized our agendas so that there's a few reports that we'll go through and then we'll get to public forum for anyone who wants to speak in public environment so having said that you're back to back tonight so you're on for the student report please okay so tomorrow October 26th there will be a Canton Middle School DC current meeting Friday October 28th or a week of CIS qpo where there will be the caspco Fright Night Wednesday November 2nd will be the CHS National Honor Society induction Tuesday November 8th Cherry Brook signers will be closed due to election day and then same with in high school middle school and CIS because of professional development um ongoing we have Alice in Wonderland which is approaching on Thursday November 10th at 7 pm Friday November 11th at 7 pm it's Saturday November 12th at 12pm and it's 12 10 for adults and eight dollars for students great are you performing at all or no I'm um director's assistant okay is that a paying job no um I I wanted to ask you first of all any other members have a question for Simone no but we spoke earlier about informing um the high school about like who she like more about the representatives of older students and freshmen and sophomore have said stuff to me like oh what if I have a concern and this and that and I said are you aware of and I mentioned their positions and they were not aware so she might bring that back to kind of get the word out that you know this is who we are and this is our role and this is what we do what if we did a couple posters you know um you have a question for the Board of Ed see Simone see Bella see Khalil what if we just put a couple of those up in the high school so kids knew um I could put them on like the TVs too yeah have a question for the Board of Ed see your board of ed wrap yeah you know that kind of thing because I think people just don't like they're not aware of our role so we'll get a giant picture of you oh yeah waving like this and the kids are you after my job because you can have it no hey so I was at a I had a nice opportunity to speak at a Girl Scout meeting and I met this um very talented Girl Scout who was in the eighth grade and we were talking about the warrior and what we might be able to do when it comes to that so all of a sudden she gets up on the Whiteboard and she says Mr Daniels what do you think of this and she draws this beautiful kind of Spartan helmet with a c on the helmet and and it just you know it just depicted and I I said to myself I said that's what I'm looking for it's ideas like that and she did a free hand and I thought it was pretty cool because the C was there but you know it's not a warrior it wasn't a you know this bulky gorilla you know something like that but it was a helmet a kind of a Spartan you know Roman kind of helmet with the c on it and I think it depicted what a warrior helmet would look like so I thought hey maybe we're on to something here so you know I know that um Mrs Hayes is going to talk to you about um maybe seeing that kind of getting that kind of input uh from both people of middle school and the high school on what what the warrior is going to be what what are what is our mascot going to be I think that's like a really cool idea having people submit like ideas like visual I guess maybe not like a concept because you don't know we'll find the perfect thing but it's good to like see like we can put them up here and we can all talk about like which ideas are liking and what parts yeah and maybe we could have you know very something simple but maybe a one two and three you know you get a thermos you get a sweatshirt or something like that and we can we can provide to the top three and then maybe the school can vote on it at that point between the middle and high school something like that yeah exactly and it was in our gym and juniors and seniors got to come and like we had our own like periods to go with and it was really informative and there's like so many different schools majority of them were in New England um so I I wish there maybe were more schools that were not on just the East Coast but it was really good I heard there was a big line in Providence College table kind of out the door actually I I wrote um I understand from um superintendent case that it was extremely well done so I wrote thank you notes on behalf of the board for the folks that put it together I loved it good good you get a cure Us in on what you're thinking about or what did you I don't know I looked at a few different schools like there was so many it was really overwhelming but it was it wasn't good overall good yeah pounds okay thank you for that support anything else for Simone all right okay let's go to the superintendent report Mr Case thank you very much uh chair Daniels good evening everybody it's great to see all of you tonight I have a very brief report tonight because of our uh presentations that we're looking forward to uh the first one I was going to mention was the first one was the college fair um so Felicia thank you for asking about that a big shout out goes out to our school counseling staff Deb schweiger our our counseling supervisor Jennifer theorados and also Michael Fury and Ian Beeman Mrs Beaman the administrative assistant for the counseling department did a fabulous job um I saw Mr depipo out in the parking lot directing traffic to make sure all of our College Representatives got where they needed to go so it was a team effort uh really well done another highlight last week was our high school symphonic band of Performing the concerts uh the Disney concert that happened Saturday morning which allowed many of our families with young children to enjoy the concert children came dressed in their favorite Disney outfit and uh it was so well attended and I hope that a good bit of money was raised for the students Walt Disney trip coming up in April and Simone I know you played a part in that too as to Bella thank you for that it was really entertaining it was really fun thank you so much I'm going to ask Mr Bishop to talk about health metrics so over the past two years during the coven pandemic we would report out to you monthly what our numbers were looking like um so I asked Mr Bishop to uh to take a look at our numbers our absenteeism rates and especially as we're hearing more about the respiratory virus that is out there along with the flu we will start giving you regular updates on the health metrics so I'm just going to turn over to Mr Bishop now to talk about what we see as our latest tracks thank you very much and always glad to be able to talk about students in school um a couple things that we that we're seeing so far uh just over a two week period so from the 10th which really the 11th uh up until the 24th um we've got a total number of 29 Kobe cases that we've seen across all of our schools which is in comparison to what we've heard in the past it's pretty pretty good for us um seven and trade the primary four at the Intermediate School three at the middle of 15 at the high school and that that is inclusive of of Staff Associated staff and students as well um so our numbers there are okay um when we look at average daily attendance across that two-week period we're doing pretty well the school is typically looking to have um you know five to eight percent um that might be out on it on a given day and and we're right within that Norm for us um even in a time when other things are starting to kick up right now so 92 percent that we see uh on average for Cherry Brook 95 for the Intermediate School 95 for the middle 93 for the high school although I will say on the on um there was one day we had a couple a couple other students uh who may have been out um at the high school and I think it was because they were already they'd already determined their college um but overall we're very good in across all schools we're at 94 I did talk with uh nurse Adara uh just to get a perspective on what are some of the things that may be occurring in the district right now and she said honestly it feels like we're back to normal in a lot of respects we've got headaches we've got colds we've got um upper respiratory issues with coughing and things like that um maybe a couple cases of influenza um but we're seeing a lot of the normal things that we have seen so far so all things willing will continue on in a really good Direction with that I will keep you all updated as far as uh the number of students and our staff as well there's holding steady really well for us not the same situation that we had left here at all so do you want to comment um the thought about the holidays and what that brings yes I was thank you for that lead info um so when talking with the Farmington Valley Health District they are not seeing any unusual trends at this point uh we're not seeing High rates of covid or the flu or the respiratory virus as of yet so we're in a holding pattern so you'll recall that chair Daniels at our last meeting um suggested we look into possibly extending our Thanksgiving break by two days depending on the health situation so I think if we wait over the next two weeks and see what the situation is we can revisit it when we meet again on November 7th if that makes sense thank you thank you John yeah absolutely um the other item I had for tonight is um as is just to alert you that um as you know one of our goals this year is to create a building project feasibility committee now that we have our enrollment study in and our projections um in the report that NASDAQ did for us last spring we know we're going to need to make some modifications to our buildings to support our growing enrollment over the next several years so one of our goals this year is to establish a committee to look at that Lou and I have approached um our CEO Bob Skinner and uh first selectman vessel and we'll be asking the board of Selectmen to appoint a temporary study committee to look at this and uh Lou and I would like to know which members of the Board of Ed may be interested in participating on this committee and even more importantly of community members that he was Board of Ed members may know they might be interested in serving on this committee please let us know and for those who are listening in to the public if you're interested in serving please let chair Daniels or I know as we'll be looking to form this committee very shortly please so I believe uh I think the way we left it is this is aboard a selected appointment foreign so we can only we will um we will make recommendations or suggestions on Busan and my hope is there will be a selection for the finance member for Board of Education member or two and then we'll go to the public at large yeah what what we don't have is and I'd like you guys uh to consider it um we need a chair and it may not come from the board but we meet somebody with some building understanding uh it's it's having served on or been on two building committees I know what it's like and the chair is really a critical component to that that helps uh Drive the committee uh on the information they need to hear so um as Kevin mentioned if you know somebody or if you wouldn't like to step up let's let's talk about that but we we will need a chair we'll make those recommendations to the board of selecting but it is a board of selection committee to report back to the board of Select but not necessarily to the board of education so how are we going to report to the public that they have the option to maybe you know being on the city so I think we'll get a communication out we'll put it on our website we'll begin to advertise for it um why don't we why don't we plan to say that we'd like to form this committee by December and we'll give them a start starting to end up date on what we think is reasonable to come back to the selectment and to the Board of Education it might even be a joint meeting at that point we'll be getting the information together any questions on that sorry thanks for playing thank you that's all I had for him tonight okay any questions for Mr Case anything it may not on the agenda now's your time to okay thank you all right so on the chairs report the one thing I do want to comment on is the uh um the search for the superintendent so we did put out a community survey um we publicized it both on the town site School site PTO sites Claudia's uh personal site we I mean Claudia put it out everywhere she could so I thank you we actually put hard copy out I saw that out in several locations so as we got towards the end date of this which was last Friday um I think on Tuesday I asked for a for an accounting for Marcus our consultant from Cape uh Mary Broderick and we were below we were somewhere around 22 47 somewhere around there so we put out a reminder Claudia was nice enough to put out a reminder the talent was a reminder so we got just shy of 400 somewhere around 387.

have a good night have a good night everyone because option items motion that the Board of Education approved the Danbury public schools strategic plan in 2022 through 2027 in accordance with 22-119 navigation [Music] by Kate any discussion yes I have yes we have the problem with one of the action steps [Music] the on the teaching and learning I feel it's too broad and it can accomplish a lot of things and I I just don't like it uh develop a process to ensure both curriculum and resources to support implementation are inclusive and culturally relevant uh inclusive and culturally relevant I I don't like those words I think it's too broad and a lot of things you fall under there and I don't think lend itself to academic exercise um I got a compliment Dr Reed on her community report she mentioned three words that she uses in there that I love about um improved academic Excellence I don't see anything in here about improving academic excellence and so I have a problem with number three foreign as part of some of the discussion that we've had previously around those words being used and academic Excellence the Strategic plan is part of um additional accountability that the Denver public school is is subscribed to follow we have an accountability of X with academic achievement indicators that are set in growth targets that we follow in a regularly exists with the state of Connecticut it'll help producer at Sanders with the work that we're doing our ability to articulate improve efforts and then most importantly the state of how we're using their money to fund achievement when it comes to the culture and relevant piece we have a very diverse School District the culturally relevant ensures that we are meeting the needs of all of our students in a way that is Meaningful to them and is relevant it doesn't um in any way reduce expectation in terms of achievement it's meant to enhance and to provide access to rigorous curriculum that we're saying is is meant for all kids culturally relevant again Danbury is home to over 42 different languages spoken from many different countries and so we meet the needs of the students that we serve and that's for all students and it has really about in parcel to how we go about academic achievement and what that means for all of our students I have to say gabrie has always spent the town of Columbia's diverse communities my father was my father was an immigration he was the oldest of tankers and he made sure he graduated as well as his siblings so the point thing is that education ship is for everybody and to say culturally I'm worried about the different silos but we have like you said the diverse population are we going to have separate silos for each culture that's what you can't please one culture and not the other culture that's what I'm getting at we are a Melting Pot we are diverse but America is a Melting Pot and I don't like things based on culturally relevant for academics I think across the board it should be one for all let me give you an example so in our English language arts program I've been here for 25 years and I could pretty fairly say that for a large portion of that time the books and the text that we've read were meaning from white male authors over time and we have worked hard to create an array of literature from all different authors for women authors on the span of offered authors from black and an American Native American Indian authors so that all students not everyone can connect to literature but benefit from the diversity of exploring those different genres and different literature Innovative authors so those are important things for kids and it's pretty standard across many school districts now in terms of approach on engaging those students when I asked for a list of books I was told everything was online so I was not shared that information and I find that interesting that now that I bring it up that you mentioned that there is a University in the book reading I would like a list of all the books that the students are reading in our school like kindly requested we can we can generate a list of the cortex in the district attorney is going along with our Equity policy and District but also our acceptance for all students in the district so it's really important that we make sure that a sense of community and belonging here at Danbury is understanding not only yourself but others around you um and so really it builds on that culture community and making all students feel like they belong here and they're part of something special here in Danbury so it is everything again is kind of putting people inside of those it's we're one big Community composed of a multitude of different races ethnicities socioeconomic status you know diverse parent populations and making sure that students are aware that not everyone is like themselves and that that's okay that we value everyone in this community we appreciate everyone we respect everyone so when we hear that culturally relevant it's really making sure that students understand that not everyone's family or household looks like theirs and that that's okay and their household may not look like the kids next to them and that's okay too um so it really brings a part of that sense of community belonging so that all students feel supported nurtured and are able to grow here at this time I'd like to open the floor and somebody else who's in case anyone else would like to jump in any other questions or comments questions I'm trying to listen and try to understand and I know that we all when we talk about different words have a different analogy as to how that word sound and how we put it in a particular place for a group of people you know someone can look at me and say that you know I'm African-American and could call that something else but I think and I guess what I'm trying to say as as four members we can say that he disapproved but can we really go in and change this and how we go about changing this to fit someone else because what might fit Teresa might not fit my household so and I and I think that's what Dr Kevin Harrell was trying to say I mean I know what fits someone else also is not going to fit Mass so and we have to look at Danville and how words are used and uh you know they might use it one way a restaurant it might not be the right way to use here any more at meetings and anything that we've done so you know that's just my comment anybody else have a question so I understand the concept of cultural relevancy from my own position but I think we care if you could maybe with that come along and we're over to see because I understand that to be within the Frameworks that the state has already created so we're not going we're not going outside those families we're working within them as a creative cultural purpose that's because we've been taking anything from the current time that means adding chatting to it right yeah I want to make changes yeah and and and thank you for oh it's locked okay um you know as I mentioned briefly this is these are not just these are it's a nationwide um attempt uh and even the local attacks in Connecticut to make sure that we're just in the needs um eduard thank you for for reminding me of that that is a um you know that has been an Initiative for quite some time in Connecticut um to the point where the board has also adopted policy as Kelly mentioned around those areas um but again it's we have a Common Core State Standards we have ngss standards we have all kinds of standards isti standards um and being culturally relevant is a way to access and tap into those standards for all kids and so it's really not and I know I think the word maybe was used before that the concern around watering down the curriculum um and if anything it's really meant to to enrich um the curriculum and growing more substance to it I got the same page with the actual stuff that that is is causing a little concern here and I I know the left-hand side there is this strengthening and curriculum accessible for all and include enrichment and interventions to improve academic outcomes so um I guess I look at that and take away from it that exactly what you just said for us Dr casimiro which is that by improving the quality of the curriculum and making it more inclusive we're actually enriching and creating opportunities for students to improve their academic outcomes which I think we all probably agree is what we're here to do so thank you foreign so just for clarification so we're not watering down the rigor of the curriculum we are just making it more accessible from different students that are that are here at them right okay I just want to say I don't see how culture has to do anything with math anything else from any other phone number there's there's three I'm starting to stay home tonight we're glad you did there's three little stars there that's telling me that this district is is doing whatever it can and those those three stars are the bullet points that we really should be looking for and dealing with our students so um you know I can look at that and and say okay we can move on but you know I just want to say God you know we can't satisfy everyone but we can listen to what another person's opinion is but I'm looking at the three bullet points that here and I think they're well uh um implemented here and put here in this teaching and learning document and I hope that we continue to move forward on those three bookings another way of example perhaps when we differentiate for children we've been doing this at the end of time here at Danbury we've been doing my content process for the products that we created for kids and those can change um and we can engage students also by their interest so if having a hard time engaging a student in textural Reading as a teacher I need to be empowered to choose a test that may I may not the curriculum I have not provided in this sense that this is a similar story but with content that this child can relate to so they can engage in the text and that we can help build or conquer comprehension so it's similar to if I hold a story about the Yankees right now I have a 13 year old boy who doesn't want to read and is not into not into reading but if I pull a story text about Aaron judge hitting his home run I can bet you I can get him at a table and make this relevant to that child into that student and that's no different than any child that we that we work with is that we're saying that you have to take into consideration the background that students come from the interest that they have and we know we have a variety of backgrounds and as teachers we have to take that information to account so we can engage our students because so that we can tap into those standards and if anybody has taught a middle school child and I did that for several years you have to get really good at pulling the tricks out and finding engaging tax evidence that needs of a kids and their interests so it's either Beyond culture and it's just making it relevant for kids and tapping into the background knowledge that they have that our students come from a variety of backgrounds I mean cultural enrollment it's my understanding that we have classes that are Multicultural are we segregating cultures to teach different cultures a relevant plan or will the curriculum be relevant for a song but not all for others for their Multicultural classroom we don't we don't segregate our kids our kids are all heterogeneously grouped in classes um except you're very highly specialized if you're in a bilingual class that we first come or during newcomers class then you're a group of students who are at their language above the language acquisition and skill but when we're reading stories we're just making sure that we're attending to a variety of stories from a variety of authors from a variety of backgrounds and interests so it's really not about saying we're going to take all of our students who come from Guatemala and read them this story and we're going to take all of our students who come from Peru and read them this story and we're going to take our students who come from Puerto Rico and read them that another story that's not what it means at all it means that we're tapping into the interests of the students that we have we're providing them a rich variety of texts across multiple genres from different authors that celebrate women as scientists who aren't necessarily celebrated Hispanic women as scientists not just a certain group so we did it and we don't um we don't limit students by by what we've got in front of them and we put a variety of information about others so they can have great exposure to the role unfortunately okay any other anything else I just have a quick comment um the district as large as ours 12 000 plus students and we have to understand not all of these students learn the same and so if we get to achieve these three stars here we need to allow those action steps um in order to get to these goals and so I I think that you know reading can't read too much into them we have to rely on our teachers to to do the work that they need to do and all of these steps that they have are just very important for them to achieve these three stars so for me the important thing is to get to these three goals in teaching and learning and the professionals and the teachers and classrooms with those 30 plus students with 30 students that may all learn differently or we need different techniques in order to attain the same lesson you know we have to allow these action steps to get there foreign [Music] we're looking at really breaking it down to the individual student and what that individual might mean not so much an overall curriculum shifting it is but it is you know what I mean yeah and it's it's both really right and so it's so in in overall you would want your child to be exposed to most people move to Danbury for the exposure to the the background of wealth of knowledge and experiences that are here that make the city as rich and as it is and so having um you know our kids I believe our students are better off from having attended here and growing up around such a rich environment and of learning learning about all different cultures um and and it it really makes them better individuals and well-rounded um when they leave here um and they come back and talk to us about students that they've gone off to college with and rigid thinking and um and they appreciate the education that they get here um so we continue to do our best to continue to nurture all the kids and make sure that they have that we're not limiting them to um a specific um you know group of text or literature we try to cover the bases and try to make sure that we're providing a world-class education here and environment through that exposure I mean I agree with Teresa it would be great to see the material we talk about so much about curriculum and how they're changing and what we're doing but it's hard when we don't know where we are in our curriculum and how much maybe we have to incorporate or you know connect it's a process yeah so it's a process over time and so you don't flip a curriculum overnight and identify you know it is as I'm planning and as I meet the standard I'm keeping in mind that I need to as I'm selecting taxes and I'm looking for passages for students to read practice that I'm not just picking the same type of literature and text over and over again that I am providing a variety of texts and experiences from different authors from on different topics uh with different with different men so I guess it's just helpful if we were actually be able to see what we are talking about and then we would actually know that growth within like years of limitation or something right I mean just to get a better understanding for sure would be actually I'm gonna hold off because it's going to come out the wrong way I'll rethink it see how I'm learning Mr we're about to say it again when you're talking about a general and the curriculum it's music and art as well it's of course all of it yeah all of the curriculum yes it's not just English language history correct favorite science or science science scientists you're allowing teachers and Educators to bring culture and over the pieces here and bringing those we've said it we're bringing those things in Sparks interested in the children creates excitement and then also it leads that for the teacher so this is just a good way it's a good teaching it's a good way to get there thank you for the questions and the discussion promotion that's been moved and seconded it's literally discussed all those in favor hi any opposed [Music] one of those and the abstentions stay one extension motion carries oh did you wanna I'm gonna understand yeah she still carries [Music] action B ESO would you like to do motion that the Board of Education except for July through September 2022 Financial reports with 22-120 b-22.

Zach Richard looks to wind up and it's blocked down by the Terriers you're just joining us here tonight we are just past the 26 minute marker here at USA Meadow stadium and we still sit at a zero zero game after East Longmeadow had a goal called back um Patsy diascoli I believe off a free kick from Joe presnell was called offsides and a little bit of a wrestling match with Monroe and Armstrong and Armstrong gets is the beneficiary and we'll have a free kick as Wes Springfield makes their way up field So Far East Longmeadow doing a better job in the last 10 minutes moving the ball Midfield and using switching fields opening it up a little bit and it's created some more opportunities for themselves Monroe's gotten a little bit more involved tonight along with Richard they're a little quiet in the beginning finally get them a few touches and things starting to pick up here for the Spartans yeah you saw Meadow definitely starting to turn the tide here as uh Josh trolley sets up for this throne the captain looking for presnell and presnell gets a little bit Tangled Up Thibodeau looking to keep it in with a slide tackle and Riley once again for the throwing off the head of Monroe and Owen Hall right there back door to make sure that that results in another you saw metal throwing Riley again he launches this one up the sideline over the head Olive area to Christian Barker and now healing Scoops it up no issues at all and he'll punt this one way short of the Midfield Mark a one hop off the soul of Brandon Barker Mike Monroe able to block it and chasing it down and healing no problem once again back to back punts for healing very similar in location as it goes off the head of Barker and now a full race with Riley and Thibodaux Josh Riley getting goalside position on Thibodeaux and able to defend Thibodeaux gets a shot on that Dudley another diving save Jack marrigan finishes off the job as he clears it out of bounds West Springfield Terriers with a corner kick Tyler Dudley's just been outstanding tonight three huge saves for East Longmeadow and he's just really coming up big so far Shelby is locked in and definitely ready was ready for this game as he comes up with a huge save keeping it zero zero the cross from Torres all the way far posting cleared out by marrigan and now a full race Mike Monroe using his speed and touched out of bounds Christian Barker I'm throwing Destroyers Zach Richard to Mike Monroe Monroe looking to cut towards the middle and it's blocked nicely by a terrier Defender Zach Richard spinning around 360 and looks towards the sideline to Sam Hanley his first appearance of the Night Show pretzel looking across Georgia five posts and he scores Zach Richard Barry's one for East Longmeadow with 22 minutes remaining in the first half Richard puts the Spartans up one nothing just a huge defensive break down there for the Terriers islametto had several opportunities to put that ball in they finally got it in and just a good finish by Richards so you like to see that moving forward hopefully some metal can start to bury a few more after that first goal getting called back they follow through here and uh we sit at the 2205 mark here in this first half it is a one-nothing game here you saw Meadow Spartans leading they're gonna credit the assistant Joe presnell goal scored by Zach Richard we have a one-nothing soccer game and just some great ball movement not that was a very unselfish Play Between the Spartans offense I mean a quick two quick touch passes and it opened up the space and left a wide open shot for Richard and he Snipes one just a little bit of a touch but able to find the right spot and uh nobody home and and Monroe was right there to make sure that that thing went in but Richard's Richard credited with the goal yeah you really like to see it uh just unselfish ball movement and uh they're looking for the guaranteed goal there so uh there wasn't one guy looking to take the low percentage shot for the highlight tape it was just a bunch of guys working together there on that offensive end and you really like to see that in the coming into the playoffs and now he saw metal an offside call by Monroe Owen Hall and Monroe exchanging a few words and we'll be a free kick for the Terriers Armstrong we'll take it for West Springfield and he sends it into a lot of traffic where it finds the head of diascoli and Gretchen Joe presnell chase down by Barker played out wide to wretchen and piacentini a one-on-one battle with wretchen and he's able to Win It and a call on wretchen West Springfield with a free kick once again for Patrick Armstrong students section A little bit light here tonight I'm expecting more people especially since the girls game was at four o'clock today [Music] and volleyball also was at six so a lot of people should be done with their events and coming to support the boys but it's starting to fill in gradually see some more people a substitution being made Gus Mazza stepping in here for Captain Michael Monroe and Michael has had a solid start here to this game let's see what customers can do yeah Mazza his first appearance of the night and an unsub as well for West Springfield Jake Thibodeau checks back in replacing Ayanna mod and off the head of Armstrong American oh clears that volley and to Mitchell excuse me Des rossiers and Jack Morgan to the middle to Richard he mishandles it a little bit but is able to gain control again and find wretchen to Mazza Mazza looking back over towards the sideline to wretch in and his pass comes all the way back to W as he quickly rolls it towards the foot of Oliveira and Oliveira's got some space as he was pursued by Destroyers Joe presnell outside to Tyler wretchen and defended nicely as well Springfield making their way back up field Dom Penna taken down you saw Meadow in a dangerous situation right here I've seen West Side as a threat here tonight from those deep free kicks and uh they've been able to put it to the far post pretty effectively so we'll see what they do here I believe Hannah will be taking it for West Springfield [Music] as they line up outside the 18.

if that number may have grown because that was as of Friday afternoon so she may have taken a few more so let's say 400. um on the survey which we're going to share those results in the next meeting in November uh on the 8th but so I I asked Mary I said should we extend this uh for another week I was disappointed with the turnout considering we have 220 staff we have students we have parents you know 1400 parents um and she said no she said listen she said you did probably as well if not better than any other District where we run the surveys so she said it's just one of those things so she said I think you take the data that you have and um she'll do the analysis on that for us and she'll be back to us on the 8th so we'll publicize that on the 8th to let the public know that we'll share those results of what the survey said characteristics of what we're looking for in a superintendent and then the board will then meet after that to try to um gauge what our next steps are from that point some some feasible reasonable everybody agree with that okay that's that's actually the only thing I wanted to mention tonight in in the report that we will on November 8th Mary will be seven I'm sorry it's actually the night tonight sorry I got a place in a lot of special meeting Wednesday November 9th just for the purpose that's right it's discussing the superintendent search so just to just to clarify I'll say it please absolutely we have our regular meeting on Monday November 7th which is unusual because Tuesday's election day so there's a meeting Monday night a regular meeting and then Wednesday night will be the special meeting to talk about the superintendent search and I did that specifically because I didn't want to bog down the regular meeting so we can stay stay you know to a reasonable schedule but my feeling is after we share with the public uh what the results were from the survey and we have a you know a very um open vetting of that then we'll go into executive session and decide next steps and that could take a a little while so that's the reason for the um executive for the special meeting on the 9th at seven o'clock is that here funny is that going to be in this room seven you said seven o'clock I think it is 6 30.

we're also approving a half day November 23rd as we do each year that's the day before the Thanksgiving recess we're also approving tonight uh recommended by the superintendent of schools to accept the following scores for the 21-22 school year this is what part of our presentation will be tonight we discuss Dynamic learning maps and New Jersey student learning assessments we're officially approving that we're also approving on page eight on the policies uh resolution recommended by the superintendent to approve an open lunch for the qualifying High School seniors part of the attached authorization waiver effective November 21st 2022 and I'm sorry for the beginning November 21st 2022 so we are going to engage or try a trial program for the second walking period for high school seniors who qualify and some of those details are outlined and I know Mr Pinto will be talking more about that to his students at the high school or I already have no I have not okay for the board to make a public okay so we just did um I Mr Pinto Mr Pinto will point out the specifics of that beginning program in terms of uh who qualifies and what you need to qualify so um again it's a trial program it's something that the board and I have talked about with Mr pinto and the vice principals at the high school for a while of course safety is our main concern above everything um so we think we've built that into the guidelines uh and we also um there are some uh qualifications or procedures that students have to follow and Mr Pinto will we view that with everyone at a given time uh other policies of procedures are just formalities fire drills and so on and so forth uh we're also revising the Moa agreement that we do each year between uh the Board of Ed and the local Cliffside Park and Fairview police departments a copy of that is on file in my office buildings and grounds and Mr Pinto anything on finance yes I'm sorry a couple of quick items uh We've pretty much gone through our 2120 audit has some very minor findings [Music] understood our Surplus which piggybacks on me we just had with our Ford finance committee and our facilities Committee in regard to the potential capital projects we may be engaging in spring and summer of 2023 the high school office Reno at six in the high school basically project at the high school I've got free attraction over the last few weeks the metal will probably be the 31st High School we started to engage the 23-24 budget it starts July 1st 2023 looks like that you can remember to give them an [Music] finance committee and we are also engaging the early process of our 22-23 on it things set enrollment program Dr TRS which is a transportation program nrpll and ESL that's pretty much okay before I ask for a motion to accept the agenda any questions from the board on the consent agenda any questions from the public on the consent agenda motion to accept yeah yes I'm a consent agenda and no to the open lunch with no any open lunch before the path right after that I'm Mrs Fredo yes on the consent agenda and go to the open lunch ISM to confirm Mr Fredo yes on the agenda no to the open line thank you for that uh Mr nadrup t uh yes Dr pantaliano yes Mr Shelley yes yes how many do we have do we have five on the open lunch we do okay okay at this time what I'd like to do is uh introduce Mr Albin as I mentioned Mr Albin is our gifted and talented coordinator for the district uh also works with data Mr Albin is here tonight also our principals are with us tonight and Mrs Calabrese director of curriculum so Mr Alban I'll be brief is it okay if I sit yeah sorry Luke could you maybe maybe one set of Lights you can close it might be easier to say which one I don't know you got to just play around with it okay that's probably good the first one the first one that's good yeah so the steam board members I uh my name is Angelo Albin I am a title one and give to The Talented teacher in Cliffside Park I also dabble in numbers here and there um in the interest of brevity this presentation has about 70 slides most of them are actually the the breakdown of the numbers of our njsla Administration results each one of those slides is my children so skipping through them is painful to me but again in the interest of gravity I want to keep everyone here all night the the presentation is broken down into three sections there's a district analysis which is an overall analysis of numbers uh there is a school analysis which will have a breakdown of each school's by grade level and subject and the last one is the narrative session which I'm going to go ahead and Skip ahead to I do have to mention the participation numbers uh the state of New Jersey requires us to have better than 90 participation rates in all state assessments which we actually very easily hit participation in English language arts was about 94.5 of course the it's a little it's like 4.5 but um and these are this is the breakdown compared to the state by grade level I will talk about the actual results uh briefly in at the end the mathematics participation rates overall was 94 which once again it's very very good please notice that some of the numbers are very small here in Geometry we only had six students take the geometry examination because it was only ninth graders that were taking it really six night graders so those numbers will not be reported I have them if you'd like to see them but I cannot put them on the presentation because of FERPA concerns yes and finally the these are the breakdowns for mathematics percentages in total and science science participation is also very very high uh 11th grades are a little below 90 but overall for this District we have almost 93 percent okay and uh these are the science course which we will talk about uh there's probably our overall our worst sadly or Worse performance but it was Statewide it's not just us now you will see you have seen these before if you've been on the board for quite some time these are the color breakdowns of each one the first section is all uh it's by grade level so you're going to see mathematics English mathematics English mathematics and for fifth grade you're going to see English mathematics and science as well uh sixth grade the Science assessment was only given to the fifth grade the eighth grade and the 11th okay so again in the interest of brevity I'm going to skip to most of these and go into the school analysis section uh it's similar charts you're going to see scores uh by school so this is school three their third and fourth grade are the only grades that took the assessment at that school English language arts percentages [Music] um and and just again to remind you that level one is not meeting expectations level two is a is a getting close partially meeting the yellow is almost it's approaching they're very very close green is meeting expectations and the light blue is the is exceeding those are the those are the kits where you the Perfect Score kids they they reside in that light blue section so we'll skip through these again these are broken down by the state requires a demographic analysis I will just briefly talk through these numbers I didn't put the charts I just put the I just excuse me I didn't put the numbers down and just put charts it's a little easier to to understand this way economically disadvantaged students in the ELA performed very close to the general population which was actually is actually very nice and actually in the sixth grade our economically disadvantaged subgroup performed better than than the general pop which was quite admirable obviously the percentages of general population includes you can have this Advantage so they're the non-econ are a little higher than what appears here that's Ela mathematics again not too far off from the general populace in in Algebra 2 there was there's no score reported because the end the end score the N value is less than 10 we cannot report scores for less than 10.

and the kick from Pena a low laser a one hop and jelly gets a hand on it and will result in a terrier corner kick another opportunity here those Skippers can definitely get dangerous on what Turf take some unexpected bounces so uh it's a good thing that went just wide for Esau Meadow and it is nice the fog has finally cleared up here at the turf so visibility is much easier at least for us identifying the players in the sub now coming in for East London Shane Smith will be replacing Shea McCarthy in another sub for West Springfield that's Destroyers will be replaced by number eight that's Mitchell Michael Dunn and the clear from West Springfield Penna Mitchell and now done Sam Hanley trying to pull back move as Dunn goes for the slide tackle Joe presnell settles it down and makes a smart play towards Richard as he heads it and a change of fields Christian Barker looking at the top of the 18 for his teammate and now done Joe presnell a roll back move and able to create some space for himself as he cuts towards the middle and a flop a flop by Jacob Melvin I mean presnell had the ball I'm not really sure how he could have I think he was definitely just trying to lay some contact there so I guess uh president was just a little got a little bit of Marshawn Lynch in him tonight and a sky high free kick and all in all gets one on net and Dudley has to come up with a save 1550 remaining in the first half Eastlawn metal up one nothing thanks to the Zach Richard goal and wretchen looking for a teammate Dudley has to come all the way out and we'll scoop this one up and allow his team to reset Dudley's punt past the Midfield Mark and over the head of Mazza as he walks to chase it down and healing is just gonna clear it out of bounds in a sub coming in now for islametto Mike Monroe coming back into the game replacing Gus Mazza and for the Terriers Mitchell will be replaced by Chris Torres [Music] Mike Monroe one on two battle and Armstrong clears up top for Penna as he chases it down and Ben Biggins defends nicely Jack marrigan looking for a through ball and a little too much mustard on it and it's gonna hop right into the hands of healing and he lands punt [Music] off the head of Zach Richard Joe presnell able to to have body position and now some nice ball movement from East Longmeadow and they're gonna call Monroe offsides in West Springfield will have a free kick once again still sitting in a one-nothing game here as we approach the 14 minute Mark here in this first half Easton Meadow definitely starting to show some dominance on the offensive side of things but uh west side is definitely still been able to control the ball pretty effectively and uh they'll look to get things going as well as Tyler Dudley's come up with three huge saves tonight and marrigan getting tangled up with Thibodeau spits out to Torres Torres gets a shot and chubby diving to his left once again able to control the rebound after bounce off his chest as destroy Sears was right there to bang at home excuse me Don was there make that four big saves tonight yeah there's been a stud in that yeah I mean you know maybe people didn't think that W would be the one starting free slammello tonight but I mean he has showed that he is earning this role coming up big in this first half keeping Eastlawn metal in the lead absolutely yeah um the last few games I believe they split so uh uh AJ Morgado that is in the Tyler Dudley so uh we'll see what the coaching staff does here tonight Ben piggins his shin guard falls out and Dudley comes all the way out to retrieve it on the right side of the 18 box and Dudley will have a free punt that one goes high in the air takes a one hop bounce and then off the head of piacentini and oh my goodness that is a ridiculous foul cannot do that definitely cannot do that Shane Smith goes down hard and those are always scary to watch when the player just kind of loses control their body in the air and comes down hard yeah but he seems to be all right in a free kick for marrigan and he'll send one towards the top of the PK Mark looking for the head of Monroe Monroe gets ahead on it and it does go on net and healing has to come up with a save zipball slowly floated towards the goal line healing his punt goes right to the foot of Smith Mike Monroe switching Fields looking for overlapping Sam Hanley and now Zach Richard he'll split the Defenders as it's chased down by wretchen piercentini aggressively pursuing and should be in Eastlawn metal throw in substitutions being made here I believe Shea McCarthy coming in here for Shane Smith and then uh number seven Iona mod checks in here for uh number eight done in a throw in Monroe fighting for it and will be another East long metal throwing Jack marrigan sets take it for the Spartans and he'll throw it off the head of Monroe as it comes all the way towards the and Sam Hanley buries it [Music] Hanley in the perfect position after it goes off of the head of Monroe Sam Hanley that one's gotta feel good just a great finish by Hanley there volleys it out of the air and uh berries at first third goal of the Season here he sits at Four Points this season and uh he's been due for one he's just been having some great games recently and uh you'd like to see that there on that left wing number 21 for East Longmeadow Samuel Hanley in the right place at the right time and he comes in clutch and puts these slaw metal up two nothing but 10 32 remaining in the first half I believe it was assisted by Mike Monroe picking up his sixth assistant assist of the season and McCarthy goes up and over the back of Barker [Music] and Armstrong will have a free kick for West Springfield Armstrong Sky High top of the 18.

LS centinelo Chelsea Bouchard Steven's working her feet up the line to get possession uh it's gonna be Emma Sosa sends the ball up looking for Bella white there is unable to get past the defender Here Comes Bellwood again in first Emma Sosa Apple we are down to two minutes here in the first half hopefully Elon metal can continue their offensive domination so far in this game Here Comes Kaley lucasic up the line unable to retrieve is going to be the song I'm going to throw in for Canada Moreno nearing to 35 25 to Killian Kassick keep that in and she earned herself down to a minute and a half here hopefully someone can get a great opportunity with this foreign Stevens up there in the Box and Bella White sends the ball in yeah great opportunity got the opportunity they wanted just for a little bit short um from that neck Smithson Just Let It Go wide now the goal kick to Emma Stevens but she's taken down and there is going to be a call in the play if someone is going to get another free kick here just about 35.

you there's a motion on the floor is there a second stated by Gladys any discussion and all those in favor all right any opposed any extensions motion carries unanimously superintendent's reports are awesome good evening everyone thank you so super technicals update College and Career Readiness summative assessment data presentation Carol wines has joins us two times a year at least for some of the data overviews the board Might Recall last year the last time she joined us we were in the last of the Black Box um a lot of the data that Cara was referring to was Data quite frankly that the state was saying that was inadequate and and not necessarily valid information because of exams and assessments being taken during copen being one year now removed from that we had a 21 22 days we can report out on and I believe at least one of the carers up there anyway are going to also speak to the research results why not just to give you a better picture of how things are going naturally and I'm going to move in this position so I can also possible good evening thanks for having me here tonight um board members and instead of cabinet superintendent Boston I'm really thrilled to be here to be able to talk about exactly what we're talking about before academic achievement power thoughtfully planning for students and and to meet their the student outcomes that we're setting and those goals this is a result of the 21-22 school year so this is the summative data that we're part of last year's standardized stuff so everything kind of comes in during the summer and um we're we're even early fall at a time um but these components that you'll see tonight are also a part of our accountability index which I will come back and speak about once that's released by the state the last time that was released was 2018-19 school year but we anticipated probably in December or January so these will all be a part of it next slide so just a reminder that you're looking at the data from last year which aligns to Mr walston's strategic plan as well as as his personal goals so they remember those to be goal one increased staff capacity and support we've Improvement of tier one curriculum and meeting the needs and Learners in the form of academic acceleration deepening the understanding of grade level standards and social emotional and personalized engagement within a curriculum and many of those things we're still working on to maybe word is a little bit different and as you saw its name in the up in our latest feature plan and then go along B is to increase equity and access to rigorous curriculum Again part of our discussion tonight lends itself into that as well increase that programming opportunity and while reducing the academics you can get the literacy and math and our hiding students so before I get started I just want to refer to two terms I'll use probably throughout the presentation one being I mean students and for those of you who listen to my presentation in the past you'll know that that's representative of three subgroups in our student population so it's students who are economically disadvantaged or qualified for a pre-introduced lunch students with disabilities who receive special education services and or students who are English Learners um and so you can either be in all three categories and be consider High needs or you could just be in one and be considered hey so I might be a special education student who's also an English language learner and or I could just be a special education student and be counted in that subgroup the other term that the state of Connecticut and nationally that folks are starting to use you know referral you'll hear a lot right now in districts is about hello and so you'll see it kind of used throughout their presentation so we'll say English Language learner or English learner ell or El but now a term that you'll see most across the state of Connecticut is multilingual learner that students are continuing to learn in their own primary language but also learning another language as well so that's what the multilingual represents so oh go ahead sorry I keep thinking I have it I'm moving all right all right so in looking at District enrollment um this October one collection and as many of it you know we do use that in all of our grant reporting right and and how the state looks at our demographics as well so if you were to go on to a public site and look at the enrollment numbers this is what it will represent for this October collection that's about 267 more students than we saw last year 217 of those are at the high school and our current total number is 12 110 for the October collection it's 48 free and reduced lunch 34 MLL and 14 of those students are with disabilities so just to give you a picture as of today we're already at 12 147 we're increasing our enrollment as we move throughout the year and we typically see another uptick in the moment in January so [Music] a little bit from for our next slide just to see at different levels what our demographics look like specifically and this is our Pre-K enrollment and it's important to know most of our students and Kelly can speak to this as well um that our students in preschool and in some in many classrooms are students with disabilities so we have students with disabilities and typical peers and then we also have school Veterans programs which have role as well our previous collection Pre-K is at 40 so slightly lower than the district but we do not identify students as English Learners until kindergarten so it's not that those students are not currently in those classrooms it's just that according to the state we identify those students for them to receive ESL Services only once they reach kindergarten science performance for economic disadvantaged subgroup in 11th grade was slightly better than the district actually in fifth and eighth grade unfortunately it was not the racial subgroups our African-American subgroup is not reported at all because in each grade level we had less than 10. so they don't appear here if you'd like to see those numbers we do have them uh same thing with the Asian population and fifth sixth eighth and ninth grades we didn't have enough Asian students to warrant a report but you can see that uh how the white Asian Hispanic and District overall and compared to the state or foreign that's the ELA mathematics and science which is the same thing the racial subgroup excuse me like what the wrong way uh you're going to see the same thing here at the black subwoofers that appear Ela IEP subgroups our IEP students were a little harder hit than other subgroups it's actually the second most affected subgroup so you're going to see that their Ela Math and Science performance lags considerably behind general population and our hardest hit group is actually our ell subgroups for reasons that I will discuss briefly third grade in fifth grade there were there weren't this is not that it didn't appear it's literally zero there was no well there's a zero there was enough to report that it just none of them achieved proficiency sadly same thing with science now these are this is the narrative where I'll spend a brief amount of time I just wanted to let you know that last year's njsla administrations were the first in our in this post-pandemic world it has been reported in many national Publications by the way these are all clickable articles if you'd like to read them in detail on the PDF that will be up on the website you can uh learning loss has been immense unprecedented we've never gone through a situation like this Nationwide mathematics and reading scores have progressed drastically erasing nearly two decades of growth in some cases the devastating aftermath several years of interrupted learning we as educators are facing a sisyphean task in having to bring our students back to previous levels of knowledge all the while teaching New Concepts and ideas but I feel like the staff at Cliffside Park is up to the task and these scores are really just the first step in finding out how much intervention and how much effort we're going to have to put in to bring all our students up to acceptable levels The Narrative for testing or notable achievements really most of our Elementary grades actually beat New Jersey state proficiency quite handily we can only compare ourselves to the state this year because there were no administrations for the last for 20 uh 2020 and 21.

Torres in a battle looking to get a shot and it's blocked by McCarthy again Torres pushing McCarthy and he saw metal will get the call Torres looks to be in a bit of a limp as Jack Marion gets set to take the free kick for East Longmeadow and he'll send a bullet looking to break the defensive line Sam Hanley chasing it down on his dominant side and it goes to the foot of Monroe Monroe and a one-on-three battle Hanley stepping up to help out and will result in a West Springfield goal kick it's a nice ball movement between Monroe and Hanley also just a great boot by American to get that ball up there kids really got a leg definitely using him as a valuable weapon especially on the free kicks in the offensive zone I mean that was that last goal was set up by marrigan didn't catch who uh went in from but I believe Joe presnell was just subbed out and now Mike Monroe bodied off by Armstrong and Monroe another whistle on the play I'm not quite sure that was all the way out but obviously the referee has a better view than us from down there so oh actually I believe it'll be a free kick that's why so the referee is not really letting Nissan metal play it out I mean that was yeah just a little physicality you know and making the call so awesome tonight so as long as it's for both sides it's all right gonna throw in now from Barker oh and another fruit I believe another free kick for West Springfield Armstrong if you're just joining us here we sit at the eight minute Mark you sum it up two to nothing here after the recent goal by Sam Hanley assisted by Mike Monroe Patrick Armstrong Sky High once again a big boot looking for the far post as it trickles into the hands of Dudley no contact made by any of the teams and Dudley right there to ensure no damage happens and his punt over the head of Zach Richard Armstrong heads it back to the foot of Richard as he switched his Fields chased Down by Sam Hanley on the near sideline Hanley with a crossover scissors move able to beat Barker and taken down inside the 18.

it's going to be Lizzy Roman to take this [Applause] you know she's got that kick is someone who's sitting up Roman with the kick and just again same far pose just to the right of savant didn't have to make a play on that one so Westfield's gonna get another goal kick okay Julian food turns the ball up wide [Laughter] we love Diane glad she got scared so much 10 minutes before half time so it looks like Esau Meadow is dominating there in that first half I didn't see the first 15 minutes or so but as for what I could tell they're offensive domination is keeping them in this game and Taylor Florio didn't have any action as Emma Sosa again I'm a Sosa and Meg mornella have been the players that I've seen the most of so far um they are offensive domination in the Midfield and a pop has been what's kept them in this offensive zone for the majority of the half I'd say um and the Defenders have been stolen good job yeah it's keep going foreign their offensive opportunities we just saw that um a few free kicks you know over the last five minutes um Corners are always on point and right in the back so hopefully if they can continue getting those Corner opportunities they can continue putting pressure on the ball and looks like the Westfield Defenders have been um pretty intimidated by some better's offense and they have a reason to Mellow white too um unbelievable with their connections and that's what we're looking to see hopefully somebody can continue with their opportunities so that's where we will leave off we have another eight minutes until the second round foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you [Music] we are just about to begin the second half of East Palm Meadows versus Westfield [Music] nothing currently and looking to extend their lead for Westfield tied it up first goal of the game was scored by Kaylee lukasik I um assisted by number two Eddie Jordan um off of like rebound by the goalkeeper Sophie's vandison Westfield said to take a kick off number seven Milana kamalari camilleri and then we're 11 of Pedro for Westfield and Pedro with the ball [Music] lucasic with the ball now to Tallis Paul is still in the defensive Zone sends the ball to Abby Davis David's looking setting up the line and she sends off the Westfield Defender that's going to earn her throwing though Westfield outside mid Direction LS santanello Falls thrown in that's to Meg more no back to Camarino up the outside sends it all up no one there that's gonna end up being you saw him in a throw in Marino with the throw-in foreign back to Mourinho and now we have number 10 Ryan Bartowski up to Westfield 13 El centinelo Centinela sends it up the line no one's going to be there except for our wonderful goalkeeper Taylor deforeal Florio senior first action of the second half here with the punt going over the halfway line into the Defenders but it's going to end up being you saw them at a throw in for Abby Davis temecia Mia working up the line with Addie Jordan there to support her it's going to be a song metal throwing again for Davis up the line tries to find Jordan it's gonna end up being another throw-in Davis you with the ball but you send it to a Westfield Defender and back up the line Davis backs up for the throwing just at the halfway mark of the field up to Addie Jordan who did a great job of shielding the defender's body but Westfield keeps it in not chia and Westfield throwing we're looking to see some good things here from neonecia um didn't see her in my time um in the first half but we know that she has great body control in the Midfield and is able to win a lot of ball battles so look I see some good things from her in the second half bukastic chasing the ball and it goes off of her body to the Westfield Defense number 20 Judith Savoy boy up to Emma Pedro but it reaches and I'm not sure what the call is side looks like an offside and it's going to be a kick for Westfield foreign but she won't get to it Westfield sends it up the line and it's going to be a Westfield throw and just in their offensive zone you saw him looking to contain here with the left back Abby Davis doing a great job so far in the second half and it looks like it's going to met you sends it back to Davis sends it up the line and that will reach Addie Jordan but the defender gets to it first met you send it big just in between lucasic and more no but Collins retrieves it tell us going into the offensive zones in the bones if you kiss it kill him but she is taken down by Westfield no call on the play King arena with the ball now sends it in to looking for Addie Jordan but it's going to be going to Hannah kalini the outside back for Westfield sends it up it's going to be isong metal throw in for Abby Davis at just about the 25 and two tallest wide open tallest with the ball in the Midfield switches the fields or attempts to help and it's going to be retrieved by the Westfield midfielder and the Pedro sends it up to Ella sends it up to Kelsey Bouchard excuse me and now it is going to be an ESL medal goal kick the one difference between Sun Meadow and Westfield offenses as far as I can tell is the balls and their containment in trapping the balls so ESL Meadows balls are always on point um with the players running up the fields in the offensive zone and it's always either going to defolio or earning Esau metal goal kick megmorno battling Mr Bridget Jordan up to Mia yeah still battling Mia still battling sends it up to the castle goes up still battling but it's gonna go to Westfield I'm a Pedro Jordan on the ball too tall is coming in to help Westfield ball up the line but Julian Stevens is there gonna earn Westfield a throw in East Longmeadow trying to get their first big opportunity of the half here by sending these balls into Kayla lucasic he mispronouncing her name Kelly fantastic we know she has speed and if she gets the right ball past the Westfield Defenders she is surely to um get a breakaway here and score second of the knights now Westfield come out the line Westfield's going to have a throw in looking for Eastlawn Meadow to keep up the communication here amongst the defense make sure that no one gets past them marking their man Chester doing a good job of that pressuring the ball me too against Mio Two Against One and now the ball's in the Midfield so tall Jason after it number 19 Riley Pryor with the ball or Westfield just at the 20 yard line bends the ball in number 10 Ryan potoski shot on goal but it's deflorio there it's the one hopper let me deal for Florida employers punt to Meg more now tell us who the ball now still in the defensive Zone Roman kicks it up nowhere to go there right to the Westfield Defender the tallest is there with the header Meg Morneau chasing the ball in the Midfield Richard Jordan there too two versus one making no wins a ball battle s does or no up to lookastic they lookastic drops the ball easily lookastic two against one that is driving up the right side of the outside and pass it goes inside the ball in and she does but barely as she falls down but that was a great effort there by the plastic as I was talking about earlier his speed there up the line is surely to get by The Defenders and she did the ball not for East Longmeadow Westfield making their way up into their offensive zone in now But Ken Moreno is going to be challenged by number one Kelsey Bouchard and it's going to be he's home at a throw-in can Merino immediately to Meg more now with body control and into Bridget Jordan like more now Optimus Defender coming on her back but she's able to get it to Addie Jordan with the ball now just over into the offensive zone Defender is still the ball is gonna eventually go back to Sophie's banterson good effort there again by lukasik and good effort by Addie Jordan never sent that ball in Meg mono of course as well she is going to earn Westfield a throw-in this is their offensive zone we are finally seeing more opportunities for you song that over here with these Balls to the Catholic as we talked about at the halftime lucastic we know can do um she her footwork is there for whatever she needs to do to be able to get by these Westfield Defenders so hoping to see her get more opportunities here and it's going to be you saw metal fruit kick this is about at the 35-yard line in the defensive Zone Lizzy Roman with the kick Roman sends it in offensive zone reaches Kaylee lucasic easily Taylor stays with the ball miscommunication there with Addie Jordan but Mia is running after it battling with number 13 El centinelo Jordan comes into play isn't able to trap it Roman now with the ball into their offensive zone Meg morno battling number 19 Riley Pryor the casket chasing after it now up to Westfield number eight and now Meg Morneau wins that battle defense is going up against number one kills Kelsey Bouchard we Shard with the ball still sends the blend but is going to go wide what to the right Oreo so we saw on that play there that uh Lizzie Roman stepped up and unfortunately uh Kenna Marino wasn't able to um draw back in time to get her um get her man Kelsey Bouchard but luckily Jillian Stevens was there to contain and um of course Taylor deflorio didn't really have to make a play on the ball so good job Defenders to get back and cover on that play now Westfield with the ball again sends it up the line number 13 Ellis Antonello sends the ball in but Roman is there easily to kick it right out of bounds on about excuse me to Tia Tallis right to number three Hannah collini Colleen's still battling against mechia sends it in but magnuno is there once again battling Westfield wins it Westfield I'm looking for that Midfield there to have a better rather than the fact that the Defenders have a step up there hopefully they can figure out their communication with the Defenders the midfielders for Nissan Meadow in their offensive zone edwinel battling but Westfield's able to win it is you're only with the ball now one one by Anna Pedro okay fourio coming out now from the ball by Westfield number eight we don't have on this list Fallen by the Florio to tell us able to trap it down Jordan now sends the ball up to her sister Addie Addie Jordan [Applause] arms associated good connection thereby Addie Jordan and Kayla Kasich and from Bridget Jordan and her sister Addie Jordan to make that ball I was a great ball by Bridgette on that play and now bridge is battling again in the Midfield able to push it to Camarino to make more know now up the line here comes Meg still battling like more now and now Westfield sent it in to east longmeadow's 18-yard line here's Julian Stevens sends it up and the page you are able to contain but not for long since it back to the defense there's field number 10 findski here's catamarino Richard Jordan battling as well mechia and tall is getting in the play that's your headset tallest headset a little bit okay so I'm gonna look and settle this ball here I said Abby Davis pressuring number three kind of collini for Westfield Tony sends the ball in but it is not going to be accurate with who she was looking for in Westfield and he thought I was going to get a throw in I Believe by Abby Davis definitely looking for more communication there with Esau Meadow as we've been saying um defense and the midfielders they definitely need to talk especially the ball has been more and you saw me as a defensive Zone this half so hopefully these um Defenders and midfielders can up their communication [Music] um we have a sub now coming into attack me and Bella white and from Mia and Bridget Jordan the two underclassmen subbing in for these seniors and it's going to be an issama to throw in once again for Abby Davis another sub for you saw medical and for Meg morno morno definitely deserves a break she's been all over the Midfield so far in the second half and in this game pause for a minute David sends the ball in Davis back to her fall at the line to Savannah mckeckney into Bella white light with the ball it's also looking to contain battling here's Kayla tastic traps the ball intercepts from Westfield's pass the Classic's still going up causes on the ball to Emma Sosa but it's intercepted by number four Shane Smith here's camerino showing her effort and physicality there and that play able to sacrifice her body to get the ball out of bounds there's killer cassette coming up the line she's being trapped by a few bustful Defenders but able to get it back to Camarino sends it up to Bella White looking make a play there but number three for Westfield Hannah Colleen is able to uh kick it out wide for Westfield it's gonna be isong metal throw in once again uh Abby Davis just at the 20-yard line in their offensive zone here's Bella white battling now Tia Tallis against Emma Pedro she's able to Win It but it goes out of bounds um instead of Bella White Westfield quickly tosses it in Addie Jordan pressuring Jordan sends the ball in looking for Emma Sosa but it's going to reach Kayla lucasic lookastic battling three Defenders it's also chasing after the ball now the casket doesn't look like she enjoyed getting that ball to the gut on that play there can Marino win to anasosa Sosa turns out wide turns in the middle good move by Sosa there sends the ball in and here's Bella white it's the crossbar Emma so she's there for the rebound but she's against three Westfield Defenders and they were able to kick it out to number eight for Westfield Lizzy Roman sends it in to Addie Jordan looking for her Bella white with the ball now white tries to kick it back to the East Side motor Defender but it goes back to Westfield kind of kalini well within these last two minutes hopefully they can as they're still in the offensive zone Addie Jordan attempts you saw him I was gonna get another another throw in Abby Davis looking for Bella White she's able to find her sends it in herself Abby Davis to kill the Catholic the casket still going after it but it's going to be the goaltender Sophie zanderson who's able to collect the ball before the casket gets to it great kick in by Abby Davis there showing her um left foot she's 11.

for public forum just raise your hand okay I think we'll close public forum thank you which leads us on tonight's presentations you want to make any introductions on that please thank you Lou um so I'll begin and then turn it over to Mr Bishop and then our outstanding administrators so uh it's always at this time of the year that our principles come before you to talk to you about what the goals are for each of their schools for this upcoming school year you will notice that with school goals are aligned with the Board of Education goals good night Simone the Board of Ed goals all right Mr Mrs Mason serve as the umbrella and the um school goals are aligned with those District roles so you'll hear that tonight you'll also hear some baseline data as we conduct early in the year assessments of our students you'll be hearing about that Baseline data and we'll be happy to report to you later on this year on the growth our students had make have made compared to the data we hear about tonight so oh it's great to have Mr Andy Robin here tonight principal of cherryburg primary school and Mrs Rebecca Corto will follow giving her presentation from Canton Intermediate School both did a great job with a comprehensive report that you received with the agenda on Friday and they've both done an executive summary for you uh listing out their goals so each School each administrator could talk to you for a couple of hours about all of the data points and what they've really tried hard to do is to give you a thirty thousand foot summary of what's Happening but as always we can provide you with additional information if we don't have that information for you tonight so Andy will uh we'll present on what's happening at Cherry Brook um Mr Bishop will do the introduction facility in this case um and and this really is the the story of our our great administrators and the work that they're doing tonight but just to to share with you all um kind of the the introduction the Preamble as it were to our um continuous Improvement plans uh we've got um some boiler like some work that we are all carrying forward because it matters as a district to be able to to carry that forward for uh support in the work that we're doing care if you wouldn't mind going to the next slide all right so we lead off obviously with our vision and mission statement the things that we really describe ourselves to go ahead and go to them um and our values which we know next it's important to be able to always come back to our vision of The Graduate there's a lot of great work that's going on with continuing to shift the elements of what we're doing behaviorally academically into uh the coordination with our vision of The Graduate that's an important piece for us to continue to uh to work with and then wanted to be able to connect back with our areas of focus for our learning this last year and you approved some professional days for us to be able to do work in two uh particular buckets and it's that the area of learner growth and success of school climate and culture um and you'll you'll hear that through the the goals that our administrators have and then throughout the year we we're continuing to work on teaching and reaching each and every learner using data to support teaching and learning uh promoting helping School climate and culture and then effective curriculum development the next so then from these two areas we derive two theories of action and theories of action are if then statements that should really move toward what uh student achievement comes to because that's what we're all here for that's what we're about so in the first theory of action if we identify support development Elevate our student-centered learning practices then student achievement and ownership relative to canton's vision of The Graduate will improve so if we focus on effective learning uh teaching and learning strategies we will see growth in our students in the next uh students are at the core of our instruction by elevating our practices focusing on the major proponents of student-centered learning children will be more readily engaged instruction will be tailored to their learning styles which will yield deeper learning this is all about what we're trying to be able to continue to to Rally around as a district next slide please and then our second theory of action another uh if then statement if we create a school community that is inclusive and Equitable for all of our students and families then we will have a safe and engaging learning environment that needs the unique needs of each Community member thereby increasing student achievement go ahead and then for each person to thrive in our school Community uh our school environment it needs to be a safe place in which each person's needs are met and differences are respected regardless of backgrounds uh we want for people to be able to feel connected to our schools uh and we we see it overall that continues to provide positive results in performance for our students so with these two theories these two major bets uh that are that are overarching for us this is the work then that our administrator is going to based on the performance that we see from last year and the performance that with the Baseline data that we have this year to be able to guide the efforts moving forward thank you and I'll turn it over to Mr Robin so I'm going to make a point comment sure if you don't mind me before you start so I I just want to say that um from the board standpoint um one of the key factors for us going forward and I'm going to emphasize this is the safety of our children and their ability to feel good and feel safe in the classroom and you know one of the things that I appreciate the things that should be put up on the board but for the most part um one of the things that the board I've emphasized through the board is that we don't run the schools you folks do but we got to make sure the schools will run well and when we are getting um notes and letters from parents that don't feel that their children are safe in our schools that's a problem so I'm going to lay that out right now to both our administrators that that has to be something that's addressed and it has to be addressed quickly and I think both of you have the expertise that our administrators have to fall back on when they're in a jam with a particular incident or problem at their schools whether it be Cherry Brooks CIS middle school or high school that's that's what you folks are for and they need to lean on you and because you have the expertise so I'm just gonna I'm just gonna make that statement because I'm concerned because we get calls like that periodically so I make the statement and I'll make the statement when the other administrators are in the room also I'm not singling anyone out but I just want you to know the board thinks that both of you have to make sure that the administrators are leaning on you and there's quick action there can't be you know parents that this is lingering for weeks there has to be quick action for our children so I'll just leave that to you both so and I think that goes directly to our our culture and climate our school climate work to make sure that people are continuing to feel connected we we appreciate the weight of that and the responsibility for that okay with that said Mr Robin good evening so I'm happy to talk to you about what our goals are for this year at Cherrybrook school I think it's important to kind of look back and get that running start because part of a continuous Improvement plan is just that it's continuing to improve so you need to it's now looking at just what's happened this year what happened before what do we see happening this year and what do we see moving on because he cares uniquely different um and we're fortunate at Cherry Brook to welcome 100 kids every year some of which never stepped but in the school or have any type of formal education so it's our job as was pointed out is to create a culture that is safe that allows them to learn that allow them to have fun that allows them to grow and then it's important for us to remember that every child has their own growth pattern and that we want to make sure that we're doing everything we can for every child to be successful so looking back in the 2000 um yeah 2012. last year last school year um I was I think I did my report in April so I wasn't able to have the end of your data that just kind of is a quick review we show a great Road in our students at when we look at cohorts by covert this was you know we always want to do better but seeing what we've come up the last couple of years where kids couldn't work any groups together kids couldn't sit within six feet of each other it's going to be in school you know this is what's impacting our children um so we had great growth if we go to that next slide you can see a graphic that kind of shows where our growth came from in terms of each grade level uh this is coming from a program called parkfront it's basically a data warehouse that's then you know we can analyze information we'll lead into this later on but if you notice um kindergarten's data is a little tricky because there is no ball Benchmark or yeah ball Benchmark but the notion there is that um emerald green is those who are above the Benchmark the olive green is Benchmark the yellow is approaching orange is what we call Basic and red is below basic the idea is to get more green less yellow less orange less good um you will notice the red creeps up with the longer grates because as students advance and they're learning you get a wider gap between perfect proteins but if you notice you know lots of green Improvement there for K and one and if we go to this next slide we can look at two and three again we're looking for increased students at full something to keep in mind last year was our first year doing the latest version of the dra so that was it's an interesting process to see what impact did that have one year's worth of Health isn't enough um we're curious to see how this year is the next year it's after three years we should have a better idea of how it compares to our passive data all right so that's bra um we also have standardized assessment called Dibble it is a research-based early literacy it's accept model and looking for students who need more support this is where the first year we've been Dibble the Beats that's the latest version um in here in the document has all the subtests I can explain what those mean if you want but I figured I think it was 30 000 things that are here fifty thousand thirty thousand um they went up and all areas can tend to 64.

oh yeah sorry yeah I just wanted to highlight for you for the preschool that is a population that is growing very very rapidly um and I think it's just important to know we had opened Grandville uh just a little bit over a year ago um and we are at full capacity there um we are also we've added one preschool special education classroom every year for the last four years um and the the students that we are receiving into the preschool program continue um to have high level of needs so we've added things like speech and language occupational therapy and so forth to meet the needs of those Young Learners and I think the reason why it's important is that those students are also going to integrate into our K-12 population um and continue to have some of those same needs which we will need to support in an ongoing fashion but as we look um you know demographic enrollment growth and so the boy the preschool is certainly one of the factors that is not always captured well in our demographic studies and back some of them just on attend to preschool and that that's understandable as it represents um primarily a student with disability competition that's very hard to predict um but it also is something that for spacing Staffing size capacity that that just needs to be on our radar as it as it continues to grow and those students at the preschool level integrate come into the preschool program upon their third birthday so they don't enter like any Partners if you join three in October you start school in October um if you turn three in February you start small in February so it's a continuous flow throughout the entire school year which is unique as most of our students do and as kindergarteners first graders or so forth parents of course always have an option to delay the start if they so choose how many we sometimes see that if there's only a couple week couple days left of the school year they'll say we'll start you know next year or student that turns three right before the Christmas holiday break for example they made memory so what we are obligated legally to provide programming to them so we have uh in addition to the special education preschool programs we also have um and meets preschool programs that are located at our new uh Annex worth and we're still maintaining three special education programs at Sacred Heart as well as three School Readiness classrooms there so we'll run that space for our podcast thank you though that's important to know for sure so our 35 population where we meet those students transition to we're looking at 12 percent of students with disabilities 45 who are considered MLL and 46 for your risk lunch it's important to note that some schools at elementary level are at 62 to 66 percent multi-language Learners so we're really at this it's a very diverse depending on the school it can be a lot higher that number overall um and I would I have to know that grade one is our highest enrolled grade right now in in case five we have about a thousand students and that's fluctuating back and forth over I'm saying yeah should we go to do questions now or like just this question you said some could be in all categories that's right they each counted and I say people would be counted in Central right yes that's important thank you for bringing that up so I could I could be an economically disadvantaged group but then still also cancel the multilingual learner yes when we look at the high needs it's totally counted once so you'll see that in a little bit just think used to put them with disabilities I know there's a process to the system goes to to identify these foods have our notes always been this High because you know I can't remember being sure yeah so from last year they preached about a percentage but they've been sadly increasing over time we we've increased about 500 students in about six or seven years so we we are steadily increasing our percentage of students with special needs has always hovered between that 13 and 14 but as our district enrollment grows our students with special needs enrollment growth we are already 40 students above what you see on that slide here today so we're continuing to grow an ad um we've seen a lot of influx into the district we're also seeing a lot of identification um we're seeing an increase in referrals meaning those students in which we suspect may have disabilities and some of that we suspect is is pandemic related as well so we're going to see a little uptick and I expect it to kind of dissipate but we're getting a lot of students from other districts that are moving in already identify the students that are eligible and we're legally mandated to implement those services transaction mortgage at any point a student that is identified as disability becomes a student wish that does not help yes yeah so um legally the process is is every three years we have to redetermine eligibility for a student of services so if a student qualifies in kindergarten again three years later we come back and do updated evaluations to see if that students don't need to surface um so once identify the special ed student does not mean you'll always need services in fact that frequently will change sometimes we'll have students exit as they've closed that Gap and they've obtain the skills that they need to and other times we will have students that will continue to qualify from preschool all the way through High School the PPG team which is the team that makes those decisions always inclusive of a school-based team and the parents and as the student gets older they're part of that team as well they have the right to request evaluations happen more frequently if they so desire so if it's only two years after the student was identified we're seeing remarkable improvements in the area of reading and we suspect that that student no longer needs an intense level of services we can do it sooner but no less than every three years my last question this number 1668 does that include Kelly uh Elementary all elementary students all of the students yeah that number is representative of all of our special education students and I can tell you on my counter where we're approaching 1700 already you're welcome okay so I'm going to keep going and then if we want to wait until the end we can ask follow-up questions that probably will be because they might there might be further questions that are answered during the presentation so um yeah 1668 is students with all the disabilities and I think there are all students with disabilities I think it is important to note though that although the percentage but Kelly said stays the same or hovers around the same number we are getting more students overall so more students we have to serve yeah okay great so if we go to the um the 612 that would be a great financial thank you so 6408 students as 12 in our district 51 creators College 27 MLL and 13 student with disabilities um as students um every year take a last-minute test to track their language proficiency and how they're requiring English and as students are older typically they've been in Services longer so we see students exit the ESL status for receiving ESL Services um due to their acquiring thing the levels of proficiency for some exiting okay so that number is placed in over there so I just um the next slide I just sent um the count just so sometimes to the point of the percentage um looking about this thing just so you see what this looks like at certain schools and how many students that is the reason why the number is slightly different in the bottom right for the grand total that is due to the fact that we have out of Mistresses so this is just our students placed in our current School great so the next um excuse we're going to start to talk about is this objective assessments and and I just want to know and um superintendent Walston brought it up a little bit earlier if you have been listening to the news or or or watching it recently you'll know that um Nate just came out with their result findings which is the National Association of Education progress and so our that's a randomly selected group of fourth and eighth graders across the country our schools participating in that as well every year and every time they they administer the test um and so they'll randomly select the fourth grade or eighth grade in our school system to participate so these were National scores that were are being talked about um and and they're they're for the first time talking about really the um the results and and what we're seeing as outcomes as a result of the pandemic for students the weather upon is a massive decline in particularly eighth grade math at eight percentage points and about five in in fourth grade so that's from the the start of the pandemic also a slide in reading for both respectively fourth and 8th grade around three percent but some of the scores that they're seeing are similar to when the tests first started being administered in 1992.

therefore we have no comparative scores I can't form any any Trends there's there's really nothing to show in that respect so we can only compare to the state our Ela numbers in particular are very very high especially in Sixth and eighth grades the sixth graders beat the state by nearly 18 percentage points when which is immense even for a regular year and the 8th graders also performed admirably with an investing of the uh of the state math wasn't too far behind either third grade outperformed the state by seven percent seventh grade by fifth percent and eighth grade by 11 so our Middle School that really made really well um fifth grade is a point of concern it was the only Elementary grade that did not outperform the state now we in discussions have attributed this to the fact that fifth grade was the grade level that was hit the hardest they didn't have the advantage of taking the test in the third grade they didn't take it in the fourth and the difficulty ramps up by grade level so they've never been exposed to to this sort of test this grade level has also affected the most we feel because of the the interruptions in third and fourth grade which are pivotal years especially in math multiplication division those are those are integral basic basic skills that the kids need to have and be missed out on a lot of that unfortunately the results in science across all grade levels have actually been the most eye-opening and we will discuss that in a separate slide any questions on this okay um I just wanted to put a bring bring you guys up a little bit I just wanted to show you that we are district is putting in a lot of effort particularly to stem the stem Fields you're what you see here you can read in detail if you'd like there's a photo of a maker space that took place at schools grades five and six and we have them at all the schools to make her space day Rutgers science bus came in and had a there was a field trip for seventh grade students where they did they learned about stem professions Mr Oren at school six in the middle school he's he's starting guitar classes for students which Falls within the steam the steam realm we had a Steven technology come in and have a day of stem also with our with our students in the middle school girls code is a really popular program this one in particular is from school three which missed Yvette Institute and it's these have all been success stories it's it's not all doom and gloom I just want you to to realize that it's we're we're getting um the plan that we have in place for elementary administrators have placed a lot of emphasis on data analysis this year that's me um we are trying to to utilize it to intervene sooner if needed or to when possible push a little bit harder if we see the kids are are reaching the levels that we want them to we hope that this approach will help us to accelerate learning particularly in ela Math and Science we're also in the process of developing in-house data tracking systems that will allow teachers administrators to to see all the information in one location so that we can better find patterns and and ways to help our students also I excel as you know has been implemented district-wide as a as a practice and diagnostic tool it has it has replaced benchmark assessments it provides quarterly benchmarks every six weeks we do benchmark assessments and I excel and it also allows us constant progress monitoring instead of just taking up a qba every marking period we're doing every six weeks we're able to see exactly where the kids are and also specific standards that require more help or or less school-wide for ELA has been adopted now from K to 8th grade schoolwide is a digital curriculum that contains more than 100 units of multiple subjects where students can utilize a workshop model rather than rather than single texts we are encouraging Educators to participate in plcs and professional development opportunities we have also employed the services of Dr Tracy severins as I'm sure you know to assist in this request strategic planning the lli program fantas and panel on the Live program has been implemented in K in grades k-6 to help accelerate Ela it's a very intensive Ela program that is designed to bring kids to level in approximately 18 weeks and it has shown last year was the first year it has shown phenomenal phenomenal results conquer math continues to be a major part of teacher professional development we have teachers from every grade level attending conferences year one year two and financial literacy as well we also have adopted a coaching model where Ela and math coaches will go to the classroom when needed for modeling lessons and whatnot there's also a plan in the works to create a teacher and student panel the idea is to get a better feel of student attitudes towards testing one of the things that I noticed in looking and breaking down scores in detail was the fact that there were some very very capable students straight A students that performed terribly on the test literally didn't answer questions zeros across the board and and so it just tells us that student apathy has something to do with lower scores and it's something that we'd love to to dig into that's one of the things that Doctrine Severance is going to help us with is trying to dig into why why the attitude towards testing from some of our students hopefully I think it might be partially because of the fact that they know that the test doesn't necessarily affect them but it it doesn't give us valuable data if they would think it's interesting so uh middle school school-wide has also been implemented at the middle school like I said for sixth seventh and eighth we are hoping that this curriculum facilities cross-curricular work a little a little more um Foster a lot of independent reading in our students which which is something that uh that will help them throughout their lives um Erica Denman who's an Ela specialist and focuses on Middle School literacy has been contracted to assist our teachers I know that she's also helping the elementary but helping our teachers supervisors create an effective plan of action for students one of the aims of the ELA department is to find better ways to prepare students for the resource simulation tasks within the njsla assessment those are the ones that have to do with modeling a scientific task every student every student that takes the engine is like has to do that task some kids do narrative some kids do literary but everybody does the research simulation so it's important to get them all used to that type of questions they're going to see and we're also using worldly wise to address vocabulary concerns for students in mathematics Mac committee has reviewed curriculum and we have already infused the computer and Sciences sign thinking standards into the Mathematics Curriculum so this will be a state requirement starting next year for all school districts in New Jersey but these standards hopefully will help us better integrate math into science and engineering careers Middle School teachers continue with professional development conquer math the Savas 2.0 curriculum continues to be used in the middle school as well and this year it has actually been updated they have added some new digital tools and some new assessment assessment tools for practice I excel has also become an integral part of practice Middle School there is a they also are adding constant new functionality including a test prep section that is focused just on the standards that are required for njsla which is phenomenal that's literally in the last couple of weeks is something that they just added and also extra help is being offered daily and students are highly encouraged to attention any questions on middle schools okay a little bit on high school interventions um we are trying to strengthen writing instruction and student capacity for analysis in informational texts in particular which at the high school level is probably most of the reading material they have Ela departments have identified specific standards such as citing evidence and multiple meaning of words to focus on in writing quizzes and tests the IXL diagnostic once again is being used to identify Target and re-teach areas of needs of improvement also IXL is now available in the district for science and social studies so it's it's covering almost every curriculum that we have we have um silent sorry greater emphasis has been by the supervisor to ensure PDP goals such as student engagement and many lessons are a part of daily instructions so that these practices are actually being followed silent reading with intention to address theme characterization point of view authors craft and build breaker we want to increase writing in journals and free writing to promote creativity confidence and organization constant dialogue and implementation of high quality literature that engages students something that we want to also focus on and Mr Pinto spoke at length about diversity and the diversity inventory at the high school we want the students to feel like the reading material that they have and the things that they're engaged in are things that matter to them things that they understand things that speak to them and they're they're very very different Lifestyles and racist right um in mathematics we're hoping to increase proficiency rates specifically in algebra 1.

should be a PK I believe it will be that's got it yep the ref is pointing to the line and it will be a penalty shot for Sam Hanley they will look to pick up his second of the night here with some great hustle there off the win Hanley doesn't give up on the ball and as he looks to put East long metal Up 3 3 thing with this penalty kick just a great move to the inside he beat his Defender and uh out of desperation and the guy made a slide tackle hoping he was outside of the box still and he wasn't so hanley's stepping up here for you saw Meadow healing looking to keep this a two-nothing game family staring on to Healing approaches shoots and buries in bottom Corner Sam Hanley puts his song metal up three nothing with 6 26 remaining in the first half his second of the night just like that Sam Hanley jumps from two goals on the season to four he is having a game tonight and a time-out call by Wes Springfield definitely needs some time to regroup amazing but still a lot of game left to be played and anything can happen this game is certainly not over I mean West Springfield is definitely a talented team so we'll see if they can make a run but Islam Ellis has got to keep continued to play the way they have been in the last 25 minutes because they've definitely been dominating this they came out a little bit slow it was a little bit you know rough to watch uh not too much offense it was a lot of keeping the ball in their own defensive Zone just trying to clear but they finally found the Rhythm and the composure is there and they've able to bury three in the first half yeah you saw Meadows sitting with a lot of momentum here just can't let the lead get to their heads keep playing the same way they have been and uh they'll look to continue to dominate against the West Springfield Terriers here with the three nothing lead just the intensity for me saw metal has been great and a lot of people as we've seen recently Hanley not giving up on the ball and it's gonna cash in for Eastlawn metal and the terrier is certainly taking their needed time to discuss things over in the Huddle I'm shocked that the refs have not blown the whistle yet finally they do as they look to break up this party going on on the sideline and finally changes things up six and a half minutes remaining here in this first half if you're just joining us Sam Hanley just cashed in on a second of the night and Esau Meadow sits here with a three-nothing lead it's too straight from Hanley off of the PK for that last one Monroe flying flying some quick pressure Thibodeau chased down by Smith and now up the line Thibodeau Oliveira able to kick it out of bounds and Thibodeaux will have a quick throw in for the Terriers as he loads up to launch this one Jake Thibodeau fires this one well inside the 18.

that was a great ball into the 18. he told us with the ball now sends it in to be mckefty battling with number seven Molina camilleri well as one was he roaming up the up the line to killu Kasich sends the ball in to Westfield Defender number four Shane Smith now to 19 rally prior up the line to Molly Daniels but Lizzie Roman is able to keep her outside and give Westfield this throw in so they can regroup he saw metal Market on their men can a Mourinho battling now sent in manipul by Westfield but Bella white is there for Islam Meadow still battling with number 13. follows up the field now Emma Sosa chasing after it now it's even my technique going after him Addie Jordan gets by her Defender Eddie Jordan and that is a great save by Sophie and collect it into her arms before it reached the back of the net great opportunity though by Addie Jordan showing off her speed we've talked about lucasic but Addie Jordan has so much speed as well and able to get by her Defender there and casting out the line now the classic showing at first speed healing castle look inside the ball in she does but it is right to Sophie's bedside but we are looking for plays like that we also saw another play by the classic um earlier in this half where she sent the ball in and writes the goaltender but that is how she earned her first goal and there's a bit of a missed call there um with a hit on Bella white but Westfield's gonna send the ball up to Jillian Stevens who heads it out but as I was saying they're the first goal that you saw Meadow was scored by lucasic off of these Shots by Addie Jordan so we're looking to keep shooting for Esau Meadow um their motto is to just put balls on net no matter what it looks like because there's always going to be people pressuring the goaltender and hopefully a rebound sneaks out so we saw metal can jump on the opportunity here's Abby Davis up the line the Westfield Defender takes a shot another one hopperia the Gloria still hasn't been challenged so far in the second half just had a few one Hoppers tour you'll punts up the line the technique is there but two Westfield Defenders are there also and they win the ball here's 11 and the Pedro against Hollis and now Bella white with the ball lucasics still battling socastic is done an unbelievable job this past with their opportunities but also battling against her defenders in the midfields getting back and now it looks like it's going to be a goal kick where you saw Meadow two players who have been unbelievable with their efforts tonight Kayla classic deserves this rest but Meg more now is coming in hoping to use her physicality and her energy to boost this piece on metal offense here while looking for mckechny but doesn't get there the tallest tala sends it up to Emma Sosa going through it to number four Shane Smith yeah yeah against Smith and it's going to be West little throne Smith and Sosa with the physicality on that play we're already seeing the impact by Meg Morneau her speed showing up the line there she's definitely going to look to get some balls yeah another class man with speed says well into Addie Jordan who is wide open in the box but wasn't able to contain just a bit off side um off range for Jordan and now the ball sent in we have the white like a shot into anastosa so so every small metal still tickets are opportunity but it goes over football field goal great opportunity though he's someone has been found wide open lately in the Box Westfield needs to do a better job covering um their offensive players for Esau Meadow because otherwise those opportunities are still gonna be there pretty small metal on the board foreign Westfield's going to retrieve again [Music] Addie Jordan pressure in Westfield's gonna kick it out that was quite an interesting play there by Westfield a bit of a strange call there to the dislike of head coach for isometer Terence Leahy White NOW sends it in to see a tallest who is able to collect because Roman sends the ball back up is he a Tallis he was able to collect his Roman sends the ball back up number 13 Alice Santa nello is still with the ball looking for her man on the outside Ken Reno getting back to defend the Westfield defensive player number eight and Mourinho is able to Shield her body the goal kick the sub coming in for Westfield as they try to regroup from that opportunity Christina Harris coming in to Florida with the goal kick now to Meg more now be able to trap it right spin move like it's overpowered by uh Harris now it looks like it's going to be Westfield throwing tallest battling with Emma Pedro Pedro doing it Pedro gets shot off but it is going to go over the football field goal that was a great shot though by number 11 Emma Pedro no Taylor deflorio was able to follow that shot long and full time and now again looking for that communication with the defense um those holes in the defense with um coming back obviously the defense for Esau Meadow is more offensive but they need to make sure they are able to get back on defense um when the opportunity is there for Westfield and now East London is going to get a free kick here Abby Davis for taking it looks like or it's going to be Jillian Stevens Steven sends the ball in Paula sent it into more no more now with the spin move but it's trapped by Harris Meg continues and Meg is able to get a free kick out of that they'll set the 30-yard line for Esau Meadow in their offensive zone and it looks like it's going to be there's a Roman to take it fancier Nissan will get a little Rowdy as other coaches with these calls wraps are making in the second half here not a lot of them are agreeing who's Roman is set to take this free kick here just over the 30-yard line and Esau Meadows offense is getting connected sends the ball in but it is going to be next but the goaltender Sophie's fantasan uh closest to that was added Jordan good pressure on the ability there but unfortunately the goalie was able to collect it for George now have westfields coming up the line um sentinelo my bad and now we have Westfield come up line again number seven Larry her shot is that was so far um Westfield's best opportunity of the half but the Florida was right there following along with shots again with the SE Seminole defense um winner off of um being in the offensive zone sometimes trying to um get back on defense but you saw him I was able to stay up by one door Lizzy Roman now it's your tallest tall is still battling now Meg Against Humanity Riley Pryor Harris wins a great Ball battle make more notice Sabina mckecky sends it up to Bella white still battling with number three Hannah canaler I mean Davis now battling hello Santa nello and Davis is able to earn herself a throw in but not before he saw another Subs cribe comes in and it looks like Davis is going to be coming out and mourno is going to be replacing Davis's spot um left back on defense [Applause] to Northern Vermont University Johnson [Laughter] with the ball still just at the corner it will keep it in but the Westfield Defender is able to send it back now Ken Marina with the ball and there's gonna be a whistle [Music] it looks like number four was taken down with Emma Pedro the keckney's still there in the Midfield Paige was able to send it up Meg Morneau looking to cover the outside to um or no contains question uh possession of the ball and mornell is able to stick it out wide corner kick for Westfield right after there um in this transition from Meg Morneau going from Midfield to left back she's easily transitioned into that and is able to of course win those ball battles in order to keep it as far away from the East Longmeadow 18 as possible and now thrown for Westfield throws it in it's like Emma Pedro with the ball able to get past tallest Pages sends it in and number seven camilleri is chasing after that with King lucasic so getting my keckney's there [Laughter] Smith is able to win the battle by getting pushed in the back by Smith and now there's going to be a free kick once again for Esau Meadow at about 25.
