first grade which you'll see in the next slide there's an overall score we call the composite score so we'll talk about that just so you can see that a couple key indicators last year uh Dr merka our pupil Personnel Service director said there was two Tech that best pretended Student Success and that was in kindergarten letter fluency where we had 84 percent of kids full and third grade World readings accuracy so how many words do you read in that length of time and how many little words of accurate 95 percent of our student variable well those are two scientific measures that she held in Greater regard and research and support uh indicates the best potential for reading success we also know that if the child is close it used to be third grade by third grade that was when you felt it got more challenging to catch up if you were behind The Benchmark the researchers back that up to the first grade if you're not close enough to the emergency standard in first grade it is harder to catch up I'm looking ahead to next year I know we're kind of back and forth in our years we're adding a subtest called The Maze which is a reading comprehension for those old enough to be alive to have taken cmts do you remember the old DRP where you kind of fill in the blank in the 2.5 we're choosing one of the three words of 10 bounces but this gives a little reading comprehension and that now allows us two composite score for all the grades what does that mean we'll talk about that later on but the next slide you can see what first grade looked like in certain levels I'm sorry about fading out like not the fading optional part but again the notion is to get more green right so that emerald green that's beginning your first grade so that number up top when bidding for the kids who bet the end of year Benchmark at the beginning of the year and if you notice by the end of the year all of our yellow pretty much moved into the green area so anyone who's close at the beginning of the year with direct explicit instruction we're able to meet the goal and we reduce the numbers of students who needed a significant intervention so that's an example last year's first grade but this is the kind of work we're doing this year more in depth that's why I've not LED that into it next slide here sorry um so here's another graph of a trend line This is the average score in the first grade Dibbles based on composite score there's also a coefficient factor in terms of the proficiency I need to learn more about that before I share those publicly but we went from like 0.9 to 2.0 which seems great but I'm not really sure I got to get more information on that so that's why I went with publicizing the average score which you know as you can see from the trend line going up most of our kids were in the VM score when we looked up and we went from 355 Andrew to 509 writing we always can we go back to this one what does that mean so on the test in the fall Devil's first grade is the out of 540 points overall if you look at the overall score our average score was 355.

so so we're looking at the entire nation responding to this critical moment of history when schools have not experienced closure and and other and other factors at this point so this is clearly a national issue that that every school district is struggling as well as Danbury so these key findings that we take away from the summative data are really giving us our actions back of how we need to respond to it and what to do next and that star alongside the superintendent as well as assistant superintendents in the chief of schools but really specific plans with the principles of how to respond to the to history of need so we'll get to that a bit at the end but um to give you a brief idea of where we sit within those National numbers the Connecticut this is just kind of a background so you guys have it for what Connecticut SATs sat school day is um that is a requirement by the state of Connecticut that are left all 11th graders participate in this this was the first year that it was administered digitally so that was quite a transition and a big fee for the high school to participate in and and really conduct those assessments digitally all at once um so it took a lot of planning and it was definitely a good change from how the students had a few the students who've taken their PSAT in the past how they see the assessment so it will be digital again moving forward um go to the next slide this is just our Trend data as it looks for ELA and math for the Connecticut school day so certainly other students take this assessment at different points of the year and for those of you who have had children in in high school you'll know they might sign up for a Saturday assessment this is the snapshot of how our students do all the same in debt so you're supposed to have a 95 participation rate to ensure that you're not excluding students based on maybe regular level is and so the state requires that everyone participates so in general our Ela whole group for 2022 was at 38 and our math was at 15 respectively Ela went down two percent from last year and 50 and I'm down four percent and okay there were there were other overall the state average from the free pandemic to now it's on six percent um so they've seen a decline as well um in in that six percentage points um so I you know there there's a couple different things to be looking at here we break down to uh black African American where students identify we saw an increase in in those in the student Stores um who identify in that racial subgroup of 14 percentage Point increase actually and then um in ela and in math um respectively seven so um we're continuing to see um you know some bright spots of where students are increasing um but at the same time clearly other places that it needs to be addressed at the bottom you'll see the high needs and non-high needs students so that you're in one or the other you're either identified as an economically disadvantaged student a multilingual learner or a student with disability or you're not so those are those two okay so your mom pocket area so our high need students performed at 22 and our non-high needs at 61 in The Benchmark and then for our honey students seven percent for a half and 22 for our non-high needs those benchmarks are determined by the State Department of Education Next Generation science standards are where you know students take an assessment in 5th 8th and 11th grade so it's not taken by every grade level um great and um so in fifth grade from last year at the 2021 to this year we went up by percentage points declined in eighth grade from um six percent and then 8 and 11.

we have identified that as a building goal for for this year and going forward by pinpointing specific standards that are low on the nginsta does provide very detailed breakdowns which we are looking into much more detainedly this year again the IXL diagnostic is being used at the high school extensively in addition to engine SLA which applies to Elementary we also have NJ GPA practice there's a PSAT practice there's SAT practice all that functionality has recently been added which is it's great it's a it's a One-Stop shop for a lot of things professional development and Concord math a lot of teachers at the high school have have been going particularly for algebra one we also have we're trying to create a culture of collaboration among subject Area Teachers because these tests are really affecting every subject we're trying to increase our focus in demonstrating standards for example how to properly understand the type of questions that they're asking based on the subclaims yeah I don't know if you know how the test works but mathematics questions are organizing to subclaim A and B which is Major in supporting content reasoning there's an entire section on reasoning which is the type of question that says uh oh Susie did this is she correct and you have to justify what you've said and then there's questions that are real world questions for Dr pantoliano owns the store she sells knitting needles and she does this they're generally multiple choice and multiple parts so understanding how to answer these questions properly is very important um we are trying to increase our academic language and subject-based vocabulary and providing additional accommodations for L's including ell Specialists that have identified Ells as a focus for this year any questions on High School we're almost there almost the science uh the 2022 Angeles La Science assessment scores were much lower than we anticipated it was actually the one assessment where none of our grade levels have performed the state of New Jersey with 8th grade coming the closest that just two percentage points below however this is not really a Triumph because proficiency for science in the city of New Jersey is terrible it's across the state 80 percent of students 80 percent are below proficient concerns um I just might be because we focus on Ela and math so much maybe so but we have made a concerted effort to improve our Science Education the elementary and middle schools have adopted a research-based science curriculum developed by Berkeley University called Foss I'm sure you're familiar with it full option science system it's designed to teach students using research methods in addition to direct instruction and at the high school intercurricular activities between science and other disciplines have been a focus of our teachers the STEM Academy is a is an important and growing aspect as well of our Science Education through this program we are introducing more students to careers in science and technology any questions on science okay and this is the the narrative explaining Wida which I won't touch on too much this explains how Wida Works how the how these charts operate how the English proficiency test results are presented what I did want to talk about was that the ell population was the most effective by interrupted learning across all tested rates and every subject the subgroup performed the lowest of all it's a sad fact that our L population was disproportionately infected with issues ranging from adequate access to technology despite the fact that we had a one-to-one Chromebook program a lot of these kids don't have internet access at home it's like a it's like giving a it's like giving a Ferrari to uh to a person with no arms and legs it's very sad um [Music] I would say I mean we can't necessarily firm or deny that they do but we have to take their word for it if they don't have Wi-Fi again so this has caused a very large gap to build and regression with ell students was immense so if you look at the discrepancies between the the last few years you'll notice that the the numbers and levels one and three have actually increased however they the results are a little bit skewed because the population numbers for elves are low per grade level so the banded results show a larger downturn than if we just did it by grade level because then the results wouldn't be reported that's why we've been so um that skews a little bit also we are not allowed to account former L's in our numbers and kids that exit the program are a success we have a lot of kids that have been former elves that are gift talented that are that are that get perfect scores in the NJ SLA uh but we can't count those towards our L population um in addition to that it's uh they uh they're expected to take the examination in the first year in math and science so despite the fact that these kids have very low language ability they're still required to take their math and sciences because they're excused from Ela but they're not excused so if you see the charts you'll notice that in ela they are not there but in math and science so there's also been a large influx of students over the last two years at the lowest and highest levels in high school at K through one um so the program does work well as indicated by past successes but much like everywhere else the coming back from the pandemic area regression is going to be a long road that is all I have any questions any questions from the board I'd like to make some comments sure [Music] congratulate this [Music] dissertation a couple of years ago I was less than optimistic with the test scores and so forth and seeing that even though there was a pandemic between the last time they gave all these tests and now how much the students have excelled and exceeded the state averages I mean that really is due to the hard work of the students and the staff and when we're up here on the board and we are approving agenda items they just seem like isolated agenda items like when we're approving uh tutoring for the morning after school programs conquer math seeing people going out we're approving all of them in isolation on different agendas but I have to commend you on this presentation because the presentation did a phenomenal job in taking all of the things that we see in isolation and putting it together as a strategy but what I really I have to congratulate Mr Roman Gino because he came to us last year and he asked us to take a leap of faith and do a little restructuring with the Middle School making a dedicated Middle School having Middle School principal and I think that one of the greatest things that he's done he's done many wonderful things is to Institute a director of curriculum and instruction because I've always believed that when you have somebody who pays attention to only this great things happen and I think that this is evident that great things are happening so congratulations and very optimistic and I'm proud of everyone I don't know if any of our principals or Mrs Calabrese anybody wants to comment I know administratively we talked a lot about this and Mr Alban great job in putting everything together so this will be posted to our website uh probably tomorrow or Friday so if you want to look at some of the scores specifically for your school or for your uh Charles school you'll have the opportunity to do that um before I move on to the next part of the program um any questions from the public about uh any items no your name is um right now we brought all the 25 kids it's actually it's a funny story because yesterday I was talking to um calories of the refrigerator New Jersey representative he's told me that every 25 kids to meeting today that he would come by about pushing his name would come today but I started I made it work and obviously when you made the announcement that we've been going after school lunch and we saw me and the student body want to thank you for passing that because I'm I'm glad you did come to the meeting and I like to see students participate in things that directly affect them so feel free to come to any of our meetings I know your first line would be to go to Mr Pinto or your Vice principals and if they can't answer your questions you can come to us I know at the end of last year we had a meeting actually at the beginning of this year about you know the cafeteria and maybe better food choices and things like this so I really think it's important for students to have a voice in their education doesn't mean you're always going to get what you want but to have a voice at least lets us know what's important to you and then we as the Board of Education the superintendent we have to do what we think is best so just to take a step back Mr Pinto is going to explain to you the guidelines of the program it may not be everything that you want initially but it's a start I think the last time students in Cliffside Park were allowed to go out for lunch Maybe 1975.

as it goes off the head of Penna and Torres chasing it down but it's cleared by McCarthy and Tyler wretchen also there to assist and ballo's out of bounds goal kick for Jack marrigan throwing from West Side giving me a Dante baits flashbacks oh yeah valuable weapon that he saw metal lost last year as he was a senior but I mean Dante could just absolutely launch the ball I mean I mean he could find the far post from this near sideline oh yeah nine times out of ten I mean it was unbelievable to watch and I honestly I think it's it really helps you slum I don't make it as far as they did in the in both tournaments State and western Mass absolutely every player on the team just knew their role and uh it definitely worked out for the guys all playing since a young age so obviously we got a different group this year but we sit at a three-nothing game here in western Mass playoffs and uh they seem to really or they've started to really mold as a team here so and some nice sportsmanship there as Hanley took down Thibodeau but they shake hands and make up for things Mike Monroe is pushed off the ball by Hall a full arm extension and Monroe trying to keep it in and unable to do so throwing for the Terriers and that will be Barker taking it as he looks for Torres and up comes Shane Smith as Armstrong looks towards the far sideline to switch fields to piacentini Tyler Richard a one-on-one with piercentini again looks to clear in whiffs Tyler wretchen substitution coming in here for Nissan Meadow it is Zach Richard checking into the game here for Shane Smith coming out Shane Smith getting a nice Applause to see jogs to the sideline Jack marrigan throwing it in a one hop goes to the head of Monroe Torres looking to clear and unable to do saws it was touched back to the foot of psentini and he finishes the job and should be a throw in four East Longmeadow Jack mirrigan on that far sideline off the head of wretchen and Ahmad [Music] Jack marrigan pursuing well into the offensive zone as wretchen has to step back to cover him and McCarthy and Torres going up for it Jack Marion finally gets back and able to break up the pass Zach Richard a little bit of shake and bake action and Tyler wretchen looking to the middle of the field to presnell as he one touches it to DIA Scully and diascali doing the same to Oliveira Oliveri settles and looks for Hanley on the sideline some nice passing here from East Longmeadow Penna pursuing presnell but he's able to get away a cut inside a bit of a screen from prezel allows Hanley to move towards Midfield Zach Richard finds marrigan Marion pulling up and now Zach Richard switching Fields once again to Oliveri Sam Hanley with the ball in the near sideline cuts to the middle again where he looks to find Monroe Monroe back to Hanley some great composure from East Longmeadow and ball finally kicked out of bounds by Barker just some real impressive ball movement there from Nissan Meadow just reminds me of some professional soccer honestly yeah that was really cool to watch honestly I mean absolutely a lot they were using they're setting up in triangles and moving the ball really well splitting Defenders and that was good to watch you love to see things starting to click especially in the late postseason yeah you saw metal really starting to Peak as a team here and that's where you look to get as a uh as a team moving on in the playoffs so and I threw a ball from wretchen looking for presnell and it's broken up by Parker Zach Richard Sam Hanley with his big left foot as he makes a cut move towards the inside the 18 a one-on-one with Barker finds a cross looks for the head of Monroe and it goes High over the crossbar Hanley just really making plays here for the team tonight as he's able to get his hips around that ball and send it to the middle towards Monroe just took if he was just able to get a little bit more over that ball we have probably buried it so we are under the two minute Mark as the remainder of the time for the first half will be kept on the field Barker looking to clear up and Pena just standing there watch watching Motionless Chris Torres to Jacob Thibodeau Thibodeau up the line of Penn on Penna looking for a one touch back to Thibodeau and Shay McCarthy breaks up that pass Sam Hanley a cutback scissor move Joe preszell makes another move pursuing on the sideline excuse me the goal line and his pass goes off of West Springfield terrier and into the hands of healing his punt off the head of McCarthy and now Mike Monroe shielded off by Armstrong and healing we'll have another punch and this one bit of a moth off the back of the head of presnell and goes to Biggins Ben Biggins playing towards Hanley and now Jacob Thibodeau playing up the sideline chase down by Pena and kept in his cross looking for Ahmad and Pena finding a mod in West Springfield has their first of the evening 3-1 now and you could just kind of tell Easton metal was not aggressive at all kind of let Penna take his time on the sideline keep the ball in they didn't really apply any pressure they're kind of looking towards the halftime but that's where they're gonna get you that's where they're gonna bite you and the Terriers able to get one before the half yeah you saw metal definitely let up a little bit on their intensity and uh now West Springfield is able to narrow the gap as uh they call the half almost directly after that goal is scored so obviously not much time was remaining and uh yeah I would definitely like to know what the referees had on their timers because that definitely seemed like a exaggerated two minutes um I don't know if they're in the playoffs I'm not sure if they if they called exactly or if they call it yeah they're definitely gonna let the team with the with possession especially if you're going out there's an opportunity I believe that they let them play I think I think when they uh they call referee time I believe they let them play until the opportunity is uh has finished and so at the half score is 3-1 in favor of the Spartans Sam Hanley with two and Zach Richard had the first of the night as we go into halftime I mean so far East Longmeadow definitely dominated that first half the first 10 minutes they came out a little bit slow but they're able to get things going and certainly as it shows put up three goals and West Springfield responds with like 10 seconds remaining and um it's gonna be definitely feels good for them to cut the lead down to two as a three goal lead is definitely tough but two goal leads are some of the toughest lead to hold in any kind of sport and I believe we're gonna get a first hand uh Fan Experience here from Connor robot yeah you saw Meadow uh great wide receiver for uh football so let's hear it Connor robotu fresh out of the student section thank you for having me on it so uh we're over to I mean how's the how's the energy tonight so far you know we uh as soon as I can start off a little slow uh you know we uh obviously had the girls game before this guy uh some guys come for practice but uh once we got everybody in there we were pretty electric you know I saw some great plays out there on the field uh we're all just excited for the second half and yeah definitely a lot of aggressive play out of Eastlawn middle I mean Sam Hanley not giving up on the ball and able to make things happen drawing a penalty inside the 18 gets his second of the night off the PK and I mean I I don't know if you noticed but like right right around the five minute Mark he saw metal looks like a professional soccer team I mean they're moving the ball so well at Midfield switching it up and it was just a lot of fun to watch yeah we uh we pointed out to open the students actually that the uh just passing and everything looks a lot crisper tonight you know a lot of guys look locked in um especially big first half for Sam you know like for a guy who had two goals I hear the net net two in this first half if you've ever seen a big Throne lead yeah you can see it as we can see so thank you so much for joining us here Connor who's eight minutes remaining in the in the halftime we'll see you then thank you foreign thank you foreign yes welcome back to East Longmeadow High School for the quarter final playoff matchup between the West Springfield carriers and the East Longmeadow Spartans East Longmeadow currently leading 3-1 after a very strong first half and they look to extend their lead and shut this one out and advance to the semi-final game but West Springfield able to cash in on a late first half goal probably with under five seconds remaining honestly the referees were probably just letting them play it out the last few seconds because they had a rush and I threw ball from Ryan Richards looking for Monroe and it spits out to Joe preszel as he looks to make things happen Ryan Richards with a great look towards the middle of the field in Monroe almost gets a foot on it a little bit jammed up and healing catching a break from his defensive line he saw metal just really coming out high in the first 30 seconds of the second half they're up 3-1 but uh after that goal it definitely uh woke them up a little bit and um realized that they hadn't had this game in the bag already so Brian Richards trying to pursue and now Jack marrigan and ball comes all the way back in Ahmad switching fields as he looks to find Torres and Torres dances with it a little bit Thibodeau applying some pressure along with Barker and now Mike Monroe chasing it down as Helen has to come all the way out and his career goes off the head of presnell and now Penna towards Ahmad ahmad's got some space as marrigan was applying pressure Ahmad looks to get a shot and it's deflected out of bounds off of Dia Scully West Springfield will have their first corner kick of the half no Mr Smith with some words of encouragement and the cross from a mod towards the short post and goes out of bounds I believe that was off a Richard's Ryan Richards holding down the front posts as a mod gets set and a lot of traffic in front of that post and referee sorting a few things out I'm odd set to cross this time looking far post and it goes off the head of Barker and out of bounds on the goal line will be a goal kick for Jack marrigan if you're just joining us in the second half it's just kicked off in Eastlawn metal leads 3-1 goal scorers Sammy Hanley has two on the night and Zach Richard adds one himself gonna throw in now for Josh Riley on that far sideline and it comes all the way to Jacob Melvin and he can't find any feet and Riley will have a throw in student section definitely filled up for the Spartans getting a little bit more support as people start to finish up their athletic events girls previously today at four o'clock beat Westfield one nothing to advance to this to the semi-final game in their tournament I believe uh you saw a little bit of volleyball also caught a win here tonight not sure who is against but also a western Mass Tournament game and over the head is Dia Scully he chases it down looking to clear and Torres applying pressure forcing the ball out of bounds Jack marrigan with the goal kick for East Longmeadow foreign things starting off a little bit slow here in the second half for both teams both looking to certainly get things going there's a little bit of a spike of energy right in the beginning Jack Marion steps up on a mod and gets a lot of ball but definitely shook up a mod there I mean we know American's Got a Bigfoot and a mod very slow to get up but he seems to be all right Ahmad is the goal scorer for West Springfield tonight from the cross from Penna and Armstrong will have the free kick Armstrong sends this one to the left side of the 18 box Ahmad Nissan Meadow definitely catching a break there as uh marigan makes a quick quick switch right before the free kick was taken to cover Ahmad and he was able to bite him off ball it's a nice defensive play as that Ball results out of bounds here for a goal kick for marrigan Jack marrigan winds up and sends that one past the Midfield bark headed down by Pia centini and look to clear by Biggins is blocked down by a mod and now it's sub coming in for islametto Shea McCarthy we'll be replacing Brendan Stone and now the throw in for marrigan off the neck of Monroe and volleyed back in by Jacob Melvin Melvin putting it back into pressure merrigan's clear right off the face of Melvin and now Zach Richard looking to make things happen free slow metal Joe presnell going with the safe route and playing back to Josh Riley as he looks for the overlap and Olive very unable to find Riley and a slide tackle made by diascoli forces that ball out of bounds and West Springfield will have a throw and on that far sideline still a three to one game here as we are at the 33 minute Mark here in the second half you saw Meadow with the lead off of two goals from Sam Hanley and a goal to start the game from from I believe and there is a West Springfield player down at the six I believe that's Penna and he definitely is a little bit shaken up he's holding on to his left thigh and we'll limp out of the 18.

it's gonna be Lizzy Roman again [Applause] Roman sends the ball in it and that was a great ball by Lizzy Roman the goalkeeper Sophie's vintage and how to make a jumping save on that ball Lucy Roman we know she can kick if she's able to get it just a little bit to the left there to meet her offense thank you hello send the ball in as well Liz Roman is there to stop that though and now Julian Steven sends the ball up it needs number 10 for Westfield but you know what I was there once again to stop and now I just want to be a free kick for Westfield in that play there was about three times that a player in Westfield ended up on the ground and it was at the third time that the ref decided to make that Westfield didn't get their kick along the 35 yard line in their offensive zone now good effort there though by the Esau middle midfielders to use their physicality to try and get that ball out Westfield sends it in and that ball is going to get by everyone and it looks like it's going to be an Eastlawn middle goal kick I'm coming in now for Esau Meadow via metcia coming in for Bella White sometimes freestylement of their physicality is going to be used against them and in that instance um the rest was going to make that call on the third time so looking to make sure that doesn't happen again for install metal consecutively deployers kick the sentin off of the Westfield midfielder and Cameron Moreno is going to get the throw in for you saw Meadow Merino into the cassock Mourinho now sends the ball out why it's going to be Westfield Road in their offensive zone so I'm going to look into mark their man on this play here are they red and it's gonna be number five Christina Harris still battling and it's going to be you saw a metal throw and as a result bit of an awkward play there Kenna Marino in and now we have Canada now more know than throw in to Mia met you off the Defenders face no harm no foul we are just under eight minutes here to go in the second half and it is in the midfields balls up for grabs tell us to lookastic going up the line sends the ball in looking for my technique but it's going to reach number 10 Ryan fertoski I'm butchering that the Classic's still battling lucasic is going to give Westfield a free kick in their defense itself he's a little upset with that call there number 19 now for westfields Riley Pryor is able to win the gas battling hard now in the final few minutes of this game hoping it contained their one-nothing lead scored by herself number five Harris throws it in for Westfield is Romans there for the summit of defense and now it's out to the Midfield I'm a Sosa I follow up to Addie Jordan Addie Jordan sends the ball into mckekny or mechia both were there but the Westfield Defender number eight was able to get to it first now Meg mornell battling Jillian Stevens is going to get to it Jillian Steve's at the sideline just kicks it out safe play free small meta they're gonna regroup on this throw in right here mark their man as I've said many times before but best defensive strategy that has been working for them all season and now Westfield's gonna throw it in to Hannah collini Meg Morneau is able to kick it off of a Westfield Defender and now it's going to be in East Longmeadow Wolcott six minutes now left to go this game Bridge Jordan is coming in for Emma Sosa the Florida communicating with her team on this goal kick Florio send it in but she heads in back to Mourinho communication there with Jordan Moreno contains the ball you saw that I was doing those safe passes now they're trying to contain their lead here putting pressure on the ball tell us against Pedro tossing pigeons battling Paige was able to send it in Mourinho is there though for Esau Meadow sends the ball back out and that is going to earn Esau Meadow Road rough is signaling [Music] rough is signaling it was Westfield is going to be right I don't know what's going on he's home I was trying to um take as much time as they can for these little plays metcia with the ball thrown into her by morno you saw him I was gonna get another throw in here Meg Warner was taking her time to gather this ball up or no keckney running in but she's unable to get to that ball Smith is going to let it run out for the goal kick for Westfield Smith is gonna give it a header right header and now Emma Pedro keeps the ball in for westfields here comes Santa nello but Tallis is able to kick it to the Midfield or lucasic the classic trapping the ball just kicking it outside very small Meadow and that's staying in so far and now it's eventually gonna go out good play good smart plays now bought you some metal We're not gonna see as much of an effort to um we're just gonna see them try and keep the ball outside of their defensive Zone in any way they can whether that means kicking it wear it down just as Lizzy Roman did on that play in Westfield with some urgency here in the final three and a half minutes of this game tomorrow we're gonna go Harris said to take a throw in but it's far too up the line fantastic jumping to mark on her man throwing in it needs Tia tolos in the Midfield who is booted out mechia with another header and she unhauls his headers I've been crucial for you saw Meadow in the midfield for winning those ball battles off of the goal kicks Meg Morneau battling with centinelo mornell is able to win this fall and she's going to safely kick this out of bounds Nissan Meadow ready to regroup here thrown by Westfield and mechio is able to send the ball up to Addie Jordan Jordan was in teams of action in a few minutes with the ball going up the line Addie Jordan wins her Ball battle and he didn't get that speed up the line [Applause] on the right side and is not able to get past number 10 for Westfield lion I should be able to cancel number 10.

so you take all the students average their out that's what and what goes into a dibble's test um depends what grade level but it's pretty much early early literacy skills so it would be letter fluency how quickly can you identify the letter to say those values phoneme segmentation fluency how do you break those words down um nonsense words so you get a word like I never think about this word nip thank you for marketing our music so you can see the word myth if you want some eventually just look and say myth but first we'll go next stage then that's blending then he said when you look at it so the idea is have you broken that code do you recognize that letter sound correspondent and are able to make that into work so there's lots of different self-testines that goes to that can I jump in just real quick one of the important things about Dittos is that's one of the recognized um screeners from the state of Connecticut for um for reading disabilities like dyslexia right so this is a really important one for us to be able to have to be able to use the data to inform instruction and be able to support what our what our program is like is it a time test there are areas of it that are type of of course others are not and do they take it over several days or they take it on one day uh they take it all one day it takes about seven or eight minutes yeah they're probably taking two days could be split up but they are a little um each subtestation about an end or two and there's usually about the range is on a grade level between six and eight and some tests thanks all right writing um this is a different type of goal setup the way the rubrics work you are assessing towards end of the year standard so yeah it clearly at the end of the year most of our kids aren't at the end of the year writing standards uh or by the end of the year they are so if you notice they're you know the numbers speak to themselves a good road that we've had the kids next to that all right now so math you know where it works when we've been using our bridges program the assessments that come with a kind of we're trying to analyze what gives us the best information on our student performance um what we're finding is the kindergarten and first grade do something called the north number corner so three or four times a year they take an assessment that goes over most of the standards that are being fought that kind of gives it a better overall picture second and third grade but we get a better picture from the end of the Union Sesame so the units on multiplication division we get a better read coming back those numbers so that's why that's broken up typically um again looking at our standards our kids are actually doing very well coming in at the end of the year but we are continuing to show growth kindergarten first grade above 90 according to that assessment so wasn't masked one of our reading points last year in what way in scoring weren't we down a little bit was it under smarter balance is that something yes yeah I can't remember the uh the past so is this an improvement year to year pretty much if you're looking at the cohort we we've taken a step back just like the nation over the last few years um I don't know if you've read the latest information about the native test yes where we dropped 10 as a nation right and math um and usually you know they'd say three percent is a warning and we're down 10 so are our numbers John historically from where we are yeah what do we attribute that to well we've had a different model for our student beers couldn't work in Partners until the end of the year last year if it could work with Partners at all the year before we don't know what our kindergarten's first graders and second graders experience was before when things got checked out so yeah our score is down overall over time yes we attribute that to the factors that changed our instructions a lot now that we're back we're seeing more growth so so this is an uptick it's uh so in in our score in our percentage of of growth or towards gold are we are we making progress I guess is what I'm asking from where we were yes if you look not from where we were if we look at our historical average we were probably closer to 94 for kindergarten and closer to 97 for grade one and then for grades two and three we're probably about four to five percentage points higher however when you take away a key component of the program which is playing math games and Partnerships when kids can't share things together we're not dealing with the whole curriculum that we used to have now we have that back so repairing the same so when you're back here in May that's where we'll get a real indication of things are starting to work absolutely yeah and if I could just jump in you also allocated additional Personnel some instructional coaches that are helping out this year and um so I just couldn't help but jump in and say thank you for that because we're already seeing growth in the math area because of the additional Personnel we have in both CIS and Cherrybrook and that will come in the 2223 gold previews and what's wonderful about having a new set of eyes the building full-time instead of two and a half days a week is this teacher kicked off today is able to work directly with the teachers more often twice as often so she's been working really hard with new teachers and getting feedback from everyone what's working what's not working why have we done this before this way what about the other way hey have we ever tried this part of the program for these things why did we drop that off she knows how this builds so we're able to start with a new perspective with more time it allows us to read things not rethink re-examine what's taking place there's literacy Tutors or other math tutors yeah who do the small groups yeah we'll talk about that when we get to what we're doing this year and just one other additional point with this that um students are only tested for the smarter balance test in third grade so that's really their first experience with that so we're using curriculum-based measures to be able to support this right now which is what Mr Robin is sharing with us um and we're we're piloting the star assessment for grades two and three to add an additional layer of information report us as well and that'll help to be help us to be able to see Trends was that star assessment being piloted in the middle school was that correct so now it's it's important yeah and you'll hear more about that from Mrs Corto a little bit later as well I think a point that John also brings up is the need for multiple assessments right um you know I would hate to think that we're giving six-year-olds finals in that book we want to see multiple assessments trying to delete the data and figure out from there what patterns are we seeing and that's the whole notion of having multiple exceptions um if you're all right we'll move to the this year because I want to be considering people's time so this year um I mean this right there is a huge change we have picture day where we got to take everyone's picture together last year was a composite picture where they put individuals together the year before I'm not even sure if we did picture that I can't even remember that so that's a change then we got Sparky the dog from our Canton Fire Department who came in for the first time in two years to do a fire assembly during fire safety that the only grade level that's experienced that was third grade when they were in kindergarten these are the kind of changes that are now able to take place so when things come up of what's different man everything's different you know and yeah we may have done it in 2020 we may have done 20 uh 2008 come together but that's what's different because we're and it's better because we know so much more we could not have taken that picture I was in the victory we could have taken that picture uh last year at this time because they weren't there so I just want to point that out and the Sunshine remember last week when the sun was up all right so our academic goal we got our theories of actions which I know Mr Bishop explained earlier um I'm not going to read them to you but our goals are we want to improve performance I know Mr Daniel's talking back you know we do have specific data goals which are laid out in the comprehensive report that we've developed for y'all I'm not going to go over each of those unless you have specific questions but what we've done is looked at um current trends Baseline data and kind of extrapolating where do we think kids should be one of the things I'm proud of Jerry book and looking at the numbers over the years is we used to see tremendous growth in our Dres 40 50 growth looked good on paper but the reality is that meant that we weren't alive because a kid leaving second grade at coach pretty much started theoretical at third grade we were seeing a job I'm attributing that to um I'm attribute now to the new version of Dre I think it's just a better analysis and then also the training that our team has wanted to administer it from Kathy Watson and Mary Tyler last year and their ownership of the teachers ownership to make sure that they're calibrated um so we got the tra Dibbles we're gonna we got a slide about that writing and then our math assessments but we have to specific goals so how are we going to make these improvements uh before when I explained about anemic awareness and phonics which is measured to the devil's assessment something else kids need to understand that letters relate to sounds kids need to understand that qualities or sounds are things you hear and can manipulate in order to make it works that so we really and I know the the buzzword is the science of reading that's coming those are skills that kids need to have in order to be successful we have a few programs that we're using for that foundation for Borderlands kind enough to search that for third grade which we're implementing this year um we use a similar program Teachers College which we'll talk about a little bit for k32 but we're also using something called hegarty which is a phonemic awareness of program in kindergarten first grade we used it halfway through kindergarten year last year um started in came one from the beginning that's that manipulation of sound so if I say the word bat what's the first sound you hear thank you oh no no that's the letter you hear what's it said if I change the color what word do I have thank you um that's firing off synapses and making connections and spring that's rewiring them for that about 10 minutes a day it's been great so that helps deepen our understanding of these of the new substances that we're giving we're spending a lot of time to see that next slide and I know Mr Bishop probably talked about star which would be second third grade um and with that is that use of forefoot the slide to have before there so here's what it looks like right now for our Devils for our fall data um you know pretty consistent across the grade levels I think that second grade at 75 is a wonderful jump uh compared to past years but we've never really had this composite score analysis so what do you attribute that to me the instruction that our teachers were able to give in such a great last year the fact that we were able to adjust to the times when you can't do as many small groups there's more individual groups and more whole group so we had a deeper Reliance on some of the some of the measures that were individual based why would they carry forward then to all grades why so that's what I was going to go to so kindergarten's Baseline they haven't been schooled second grade that great group um third grade if you remember that's the one the board was wonderful amount to an ad in other section based on the needs of the kids inside the classes so I see a significant group there um in terms of why does it look bigger in second third grade the more kids hitting the Dibbles Benchmark because we have more sensitive tracks the code of breathing at that point so I'm excited about the green but I'm really excited about that red if you notice those signs are going down why is that last year we were able to uh with caffeine Watson and Mary Pat legere and then Mr continuing with Chris Woods we've been able to reconfigure our tutoring program more in line with what would be called the science of reading we're teaching kids discreet skills no not the screen explicit skills as to how to have better word attack strategies in the past look at the picture make a guess look at the first letter make a guess nope now you need to know what each of those sounds makes you can figure out what that word is and that's why we're seeing that growth and then in our red area um so we're very excited about that and continue that we've also figured out you know we have teachers that are out for a variety of legitimate reasons and we do not have a large syllable um so often we have to pull our amazing tutor out of their jobs to substitute in classrooms we've put in a redundancy system so that way it Rebecca and I have a group and I need to go teach a class Rebecca takes the group so the kids get their tutoring more often so we're proud of that idea from outside of Boston that's our first grade Benchmark and then if you look at the cohort comparison um standards go up as the year goes on right so at the end the kindergarten we had my eyes aren't working and that was before I couldn't you can see that the green shrinks why is the green shrinking well that's because the expectations increase for the kids again that emerald green Art Kids already met the end of the year Benchmark and then if you think about our past Trend in this logically saw that yellow group is going to slide into that hole but that's how we came up with our our um numbers I would say prop at least it is of those 25 students who are below basic I would likely yes about 20 of them are in some type of uh support program to get those skills and then those other five are being watched carefully that's one of the measures we used in Germany because again we want to use multiple measures changing my picture so that's the academic portion if you remember going back to John John's initial presence part of the presentation two buckets we got right uh academic achievement and I know I'm paraphrasing climate and culture so we have two goals related but we have a goals related to each we want schools and families actively engaged the more people are involved in school research supports more parents are involved the better the kids too the more people are involved in school the more comfortable they are the more they understand the routines of the room the more they understand the routines of the school so how are we going to know this we're looking at our attendance data um much more significantly and much more often than we have in the past our survey results and the only participation in school events now that we are able to open our doors we want the parents to come in and you know well that's actually in there or later on so some of the systematic methods we have we have Lunch Bunch we have lunch in the cafeteria let's start with that our third graders were the only grade level that ate lunch in the cafeteria so we had to re-teach K one and now we have 18 K102 number 80 with 95 of their best friends um and we have parents that come in for recess in London help out it's wonderful we have mystery readers again remember that where they put little Clues up when I get asked twice a week you know are you the mother of two kids no I'm not loving two okay you're not a mystery reason um have you climbed this mountain that's hard enough to climb stairs these days um you know that that's one of the things another neat thing that we've done we started last year remotely and how to continue this and this is through our dedication as a district last year for diversity equity and includes in the work we did there is we've learned a lot about how do we make sure that the students in front of us are represented in the curriculum another way that our kids feel safe and involved with school best way to do that we found is invite family then because you know I'll talk about my culture I and I had to the other I offered information while when the teachers were asking questions about Rosh Hashanah and yelling before what are these holidays is about what do they mean you know we have a kid who's talked about going to Temple can you explain that how it is such a more authentic experience when you have someone who is living through that experience that the kids know and understand and appreciate to share their experiences so that's what we're basing a lot of our things on um the Wally was Monday yesterday yeah you know we had a number of kids out of school which was pretty um we had some students who came in and clothes that they were there for their celebration we invite parents in to talk about it we invite families in that's one of the things we want to do if we can make that deeper connection as to who each of us are and it makes a stronger connection for each other and a deeper understanding of what we're all about here yeah having parents back in for um class parties on field trip uh you know writing celebrations and those things yep we were able to do some of those last year with the field trips and the celebration of the end of the year a lot was Outdoors which some will probably keep but yeah our parents going in for central time in kindergarten not yet which kind of leads to the first one of how do you promote a positive learning environment you know we spent a lot of time at Community are talking revisiting our district team of re-centered we're talking about reloading that charitable just kind of let's we have a lot of new staff a lot of news now since 2020.

but I will say that the the 2021 are less reliable we did not have his house there were there wasn't a requirement during that year of participation rate so not every student took the assessment that would typically take it so if we talked about that a little bit last year but these are are the results again it's important to remember these are non-coverted students so meaning they're not the same kids just the same group level so the smarter balance is what we're used to doing is our Smarter Balance assessments and people call it s back it's required kind of all sorts of acronyms of course for Education um it's a required by the state of Connecticut for us to administer and raise free for week is a computer adaptive test and there's also a performance task in that we look at both achievement and growth in espa so um that we get credit for actually vote for proficiency levels or performance index as well as how well students grow from one grade level to the next um during the 1920s school year was not administered so you'll not see those obviously reflected here and during 2020 2021 it was it was administered both remote and in person so those when you're looking for a public data is not reported with the rest of the on data sets because I did include it here so you would have it but they they consider it a very different assessment from what the other student's going to take you um because the original modalities for it um it was administered all in person during the 21 and 22 school year and if you receive a level three or four you're considered at proficiency or above proficiency so you'll see here we both have similarly to the ngss how students did in third and fourth and fifth grade both the last three recorded years and so if we took those students so you'll see right away from our third grade we we increased 10 percentage points in Proficiency in fourth grade we increased four and in fifth grade being 36 but if we if we look at a rough cohort so again those are all different students if we look at a graphical report we would have to look at third graders how they did last year so the middle bar graph to the last bar graph in the fourth grade right so that means students actually the rough cohorts with the same students increase actually nine percentage books which is which is a positive it's Fourth to fifth grade they went up 12 percentage points and fifth to six they decreased by means overall the state of Connecticut from um the pandemic is seven to eight percent declined so similar to what people are seeing Nationwide so the next one is the Middle School um thank you the Middle School um espa Ela and what we're looking at in sixth grade was a decrease from one percent about what percentage Point seventh grade sixth and eighth grade eight but if we move that to a rough cohort of students we would have six to seven is actually they've remained at 29 so their proficiencies stayed the same so in sixth grade in 2021 they scored 29 of students proficient and in seventh grade 29 29 of those students were proficient so that would be you know no net change um seven to eight they did go down actually three percent surprises seventh grade in 2021 and then eighth grade at 32.

so um so it's it's a start and uh I hope that everybody takes the program seriously and abides by the guidelines so that people that follow you will benefit from it and maybe someday we'll be able to expand the program okay so thank you I just have one thing just stand up next time bringing 50 and I have those people here every time you come you gotta double the number fair enough oh yeah we could have had the party here could you started a party here then left um I was actually like going around asking people like crazy to come in the world they were actually willing to leave okay thank you so much for everything okay if I could put my two cents in you are the leaders as Mr ermangino said this hasn't been done since the 70s so you know implementing this for the first time there are some guidelines that Mr Pinto will absolutely explain to you but you are representing our community and we have put our faith in you and actually all the students that come after you have put their faith in you so you know let's do a wonderful job with it make us want to expand the program in particular as far as Clinton's concerned I apologize if you guys have a certain agreement beforehand but I want you to know behind the scenes he has actually put some pressure to try and get this done today so uh he is absolutely been fighting for us sure thank you okay anyone else okay so I just want to move on to the next part of our program which is stop smiling jacket which is a presentation I'd like to make on behalf of the Board of Education and I did notice that episode 4 was named the Blue Ribbon School Mrs russos has been wearing blue and when she calls me she used to say hi Mike how you doing this is Jackie and now she says Mike this is the principal of the blue open school she she's never going to let us forget it so I just want to say that if I can get this open I just want to just go back a little bit I think maybe Mrs Roost has called me in June uh am I right in January okay January and just said that she was notified by the federal government that uh the Blue Ribbon School commission that they identified school for the possible school that they would have liked they would like to apply for this great recognition and she asked me what do I think and I said great go for it and I know she worked very hard with her staff to put really a very uh comprehensive application together which included data about school for test scores uh demographic makeup information about staff students a number of things and uh you know of of all the schools in New Jersey only nine schools this school year are were picked as Blue Ribbon Schools how many in the nation 297 schools so it really is a great honor and when I talk about it when I first mentioned it to the Board of Education I said you know it's a great honor for the district because it is a great honor for school four but I know um Mrs russos would be the first to say that she couldn't have done it without the entire staff and what I mean by that is teachers supervises sodiums secretaries I don't know who else I left out but everybody that's in the school really is the school community and makes a school what it is give the kids the school the character that it is and you notice that you go around the different schools different schools have different characters which is made up by the staff and the principals so everybody really should take a bow for this all of the school for you and the board just wants to Simply uh present to us plaque that says the Cliffside Park Board of Education congratulates princess principal ruseus and the entire school for staff and faculty on being recognized as a 2022 Blue Ribbon school so it's it's a great honor foreign November second third research will be going to Washington I didn't want to go with it but Jackie will be down there uh with Mrs Calabrese uh this is Scotia as well yes and uh they'll be presenting they'll be um representing Cliffside Park and they will be presented with uh plaque and uh recognition for all your Great accomplishments so again we have uh a cake coffee and tea uh so just spend some time uh talking tonight and again congratulations for your support and on the board of education my mentors Donna Danna throughout the year since I'm a teacher at school five my administrative colleagues for their support phone calls for the many phone calls most of all the faculty and staff at school four you believed in me we were a team and I appreciate that so much and my family for your support I'm sorry I really appreciate you I couldn't have done it without all of them so thank you sorry so again uh thank you everyone for coming to our meeting tonight Mr alfano uh motion to close sure sure I'm sorry my graduate mother and the reason why there was school for graduate I love that school from the moment I set my foot into the door and I have to thank Mrs Fontaine who's in the audience for this she got me through kindergarten I was a hard person against the kindergarten but she got me through and I have to say from the reading program to the math program to every loving caring person in the school whether we were doing making gingerbread houses in kindergarten or painting the hallways when they were in sixth grade it was just such a wonderful loving nurturing place to be and I've said this many times about the the teaching staff and the whole staff there but it was just such a wonderful experience and I will always be grateful for having been a part of it and having had my daughter been a part of it and I want to really thank you because it's such a well-deserved honor and it's so wonderful that you actually got recognized for it because you created such a nurturing loving environment and such an academic if you had some very high achieving students come out of that school so thank you thank you very much [Applause] motion to adjourn motion to adjourn okay Mr Shelley may you have a second if I may please this is a brew there you go we're good coffee cake have coffee cake students

and he will be replaced by number two Billy statuettes and now finally the punt from Dudley has a little bit stalled from Penn's injury Mike Monroe working the other way pretzel applying pressure and it's cleared out by Mitchell oh and goes out of bounds off of an Eastlawn metal player a throw in now for West Springfield definitely has been letting off the gas a little bit they can't get too lazy about this lead as we saw they're caught off guard towards the end of the first half by a terrier goal and a throw in for Josh Riley on the far sideline just around the Midfield mark and it goes off of McCarthy and we'll go the other way quick pump fake from Armstrong and he goes up the sideline looking for I believe that's Mitchell I could be wrong it's a bit dark over there on that far sideline corner and a throw in four West Springfield Defender and Ahmad has some space looks to get a chip shot on net taken down inside the 18 by Biggins but the shot goes sailing over the top of the net and Ben Biggins with the goal kick for East Longmeadow and Penna checks back into the game for statuettes you saw Meadows uh left Dudley in the game here in the second half um which isn't typical usually they split games um or usually Morgado starts so uh that's just coaching staff looking and seeing that uh W has really proved himself tonight with some big saves there in the first half and uh the only goalie let up wasn't really much he could have done about is just to cross right to the middle and uh quick shot on that so arms Shawn clears out of bounds and a throw in for Jack marrigan and now Jacob Melvin looking towards the middle and picked off by Joe preszel Tyler wretchen switches fields for Oliveri and it's headed out by number 33 I think it might be 23.

what are we all about so we spent a lot of time being here talking about responsive classrooms in the first six weeks of schools and the notion of creating a trusting caring environment way to do that is we need to establish routines for everyone and make sure that we're teaching everything and learning more about it that's morning meeting that's logical consequences uh now those are class news and how to go slow of quote Mr Bishop have it go slow to move fast because together we go far and I do that right with the Bishops this is close all right um and if it's very helpful the transition to school as we talked about before is difficult for some children um for some adults and we're doing our best to make sure that we've always come back to the positive learning environment um what else we do in this year whole school assemblies we've already had two great and we're very excited for Veterans Day it's the nine most nerve wrapping day of the year so I'm already getting the worries about that my I'm sweat just thinking about it and I think the Board of Education I think it was nice first year was the second year we had school at that meeting and for those of you who've been at church report it is just an incredible experience to watch 465 kids celebrate Veterans um we've served for over 60 70 years and watch those veterans proud for what they've done and feel honored and learned from our kids as we learn from them so I get excited about that one of our goals this year is communication you know we've learned over the last couple years we've emailed it was our job to put them out parents job to read them nope nine more our jobs to reach every parent in the passion that works for them so whether it's uh the real mind doubt that texts things whether it's sending photos whether it's sending out videos we are trying multiple ways to reach families what our success rate is usually pretty good it's families that we're not getting in contact to where we're really working harder um it's our job to reach out to them to let them know what's going on whether it's a phone call whether it's a visit whether it's a text I know I've been texting a lot more than parents than I ever have because that's how you young kids I still have a periods at the end I'm trying not to do that um I think we've talked about them and yeah and then a little bit we're continuing with our evaluation growth plan about incorporating student support social and developmental um diversity every teacher has told about that which I'm proud of all right here our priorities so this is you know our goal is like what other things Mr Case eloquently talked about the state study that existed um you all know from the study done left here that charity Brooke it works very hard at making the most of the space that we have um I know I believe it was last board meeting Mr Bishop gave you an update on the state of Connecticut's k-3 core comprehensive reading curriculum programs the state recommended six items um and I know there's waivers and I know there's things that have been changed but if the state of Connecticut is going to say hey these are six programs that we recommend we need to do our due diligence and make sure that our children are getting the best possible program so we need to examine those six programs to make sure that our kids are getting what they need uh important part of that comprehensive so remember before we talked about the awareness and phonics and reading comprehension vocabulary oral speaking writing encoding decoding that's what all these programs are about so we have a mix of a couple of things for those things can I ask you on space is the library in full use now again is the gym in full use you know every space well every classroom space is being used as it was designed originally we do have some uh offices that are being used in a manner that they're not designed for so our extra third grade worked out the way that we reconfigured the way the superintendently configured or do you work work waiting to reconfigure yes yeah so I was there today every space is beautiful it was just great to be in the uh the library to see it's being fully utilized it's uh it's a it's an attractive space a colorful space two classrooms were in there at one time today it was just going to bring to observe so thanks Andy for getting all of that to happen the cafeteria is all clear then Yes except for the eating tables yes and we that's where we do our two again you know the quote the capture is only used for eating between 11 15 and 1 30.

so the next slide is talking about how our sub roosted overall there are five million ways we break out and look at this data but I tried to just give you a glimpse and a snapshot of what that looks like for our students who are considered high needs and we had our hiding students again so that then counted once in those subgroups and they go up one percentage Point our students with disabilities went at four as well as our multilingual learners foreign there so we saw a 12 percentage Point increase in third nine and fourth and seven and fifth if you're just looking at the grade levels if we're looking at a rough cohort of students we went up seven percent moving third to a fourth grade fourth to fifth we went up five percentage points as well as 56 we decreased by three go to the next slide if we continue that rough hope we're six to seven we increased by three percentage points and seven to eight we decrease by five if you were just looking at grade level obviously six did the same seven went up one percentage and eight went down through and then the step group again broken out um I beat students went out by three students with disabilities went up two and our ml students went out by four so the next piece a large amount of our uh um a large portion of our accountability index is really looking at growth so if you know and then have been a present to America in a while you've known we've had many schools of Distinction and that honor and chipotle is how we grow students and it's particularly in fourth and fifth grade so smarter balanced the state looks at how students scores in one year and then what gains they made in the next year so each moment in time how we points they increase their skills for on a test whether it's Ela or math okay so just real quickly this is what we talked about it's called the average percent Target achieved or percentage of Target achieved and I'm just gonna talk briefly about it but usually I present multiple ways of growth but I thought it would be great just to dive into this one um to for you to see kind of a bigger pressure for the district so so we're talking about average percent Target achieved we're talking about how far A student got to their growth Target so if you move to the next slide it can help us so when we talked about student staff levels three and four are considered proficient so level three if you look at the top row there it has all the levels of the best value level three is that you met it level four you exceeded okay level one is not met and level two is approaching So within those levels they all they also break out the scales for okay so if you were looking to go that all the way to the left underneath third grade 2189 is the lowest range to 2380 is the highest scale score of a level one we break that out into a low level and high level one as state gives you a Target and says say you take this in third grade or and you are in sport and uh 2388 we expect you to grow 59 points we have a quick clarifying yeah I apologize many rules and achievements so if you're if you're setting a goal at let's just use now is number four and a child who's at number one if they grow one or two you consider that growth so that's what you base the percentage on of growth correct okay so yes we always want to look at that guy this state gives us these actual targets and say if you're a low level if you're a low level two and and you supported 2338 when you were in third grade we expect your sales score to at least grow by 59 next year okay so what constant progress in progress and really specific to what your score is right so because then this is research based based on how students in Connecticut performed at a smarter balanced over time and so they think they think this is the what we should expect for a Year's worth of breath if we want to move a student a level we'll need maybe more aggressive bro right but there's at least be promise so if I get to 59 if I and that student in the third grade and I get 59 I hit 100 my target right if I'm a student and my skills for if I'm a level too high which is the next one and I'm expected to grow we are expected to grow 60 and you only got 30 points you're at 50 to your target right so you're 50 of the way there if you and I are only in a class together what the average percent Target achieved is that we'll average our scores together so now our class is at 75 so 100 50 average data the average class together was 75 average already achieved we use percentages of increase it's not necessarily the Target right it's it's the increase yeah yeah I think that's good to verify where you know we're not hitting right but we're kind of around there and it depends on where you are on scale that you're expecting to growth so everybody so you know I always think about this too like am I an American runner am I a half marathon runner I buy 5K a lucky day I could do a 5k like I have to really try so like so you know depending on where you are is the expectation of how far they'll run if you complete what you what the expected run was you're 100 right there's no cross that Finish Line maybe you've got a three quarters of the way there and so you're 75 right okay we're gonna give it a try here we go next slide please so this is how we did overall for our escrow growth okay and I did include both 1819 which is the last time we could have growth okay so we didn't take it in 2021 so last year we report any growth scores because they didn't take it the year before okay so 1819 was the last reportable year we could have growth and now we can report it this year because they also took it in um 2021 so they've been 21-22 and so when we look at these results you know this did give us the target it's like you at least want to be a 75 there's some great levels that are 100 that are hitting that 100 average percentage Target achieved so but if we if we average all of our fourth graders this year we were at 71 the state overall for grade 4 was at 68 so we're out performing the state in our growth in fourth grade in fifth grade in in ela sorry I should clarify this was an English language arts we were at 74 so that means averaging all our fifth graders together they got on average 75 back to their growth Target okay sixth grade was at 54 7th grade fifty and eighth grade was at 48 and those are the lowest the state averages if we look at our students who are eligible for fair reduce lunch that was 57 which was like right in line with where we were in 1819 our scores are almost exactly the same for our subgroups 60 for our MLL students and 48 average percent Target achieved for students with disabilities thank you so if we move to math State exact concept pure fourth grade really outperforms the state as well as the rest of the district honestly for math 86 average percent Target change 80 percent in fifth grade and in sixth grade um 43 7th grade 56 and 8th grade 42 6th and seventh grade was that higher rates of growth and pre-pandemic with our eligible for free or news lunch that was the greatest term for your pandemic from 55 to 60 average Target achieved and then including Emma low three percent increase with our students with disabilities to remain the same method if you want for that so that's comparing our pre-pandemic numbers 19.

so with that would be an example of maximizing some space our kids need to be tutored someplace the hallway was not the best place for me to be tutored so we're in the cafeterias tutoring about 9 to 11 and then Mr McBain our custodian it's all tailed down and then from 1 30 to 2 Mr McBain and Mr batan worked very hard at cleaning the tables cleaning the floors so we can have kids in there to apply for tutoring so we put the tutoring stuff there's no more tutoring in that hallway we try not to yes how is the transition been I mean obviously it's very exciting to have all those rooms open music and cafeteria return and Library how is the transition to like staff very excited happy because like they were having you know art in their classrooms they the students ate in their class everything to have that opportunity to have their classroom children it's hugely and the students transitioning beautifully or learning their routines how to get to the library and that's what we talked about with um establishing those routines students needed to be taught this is what we do in the music group is what we do in the gym I go to each room at the game here and talk about is it okay to run School absolutely not instructable what are you supposed to do in the gym oh that's right so recognizing that different places have different expectations per day ages so that's taken a little bit of time for the transitions good news is though we had to do grade levels so it became part of our first six weeks of instructions all right we talked a little bit about the school live celebrations um I know this car is excited to have some usable performances you've done she's been here for two three years she's done one musical informance last year in May which was a family called Japan I don't know if you came Ryan but that was the third graders learning reporter again or no are they doing something to supplement that Drummond Roman and singing is that because change and personal opinion Co and this card how it was better uh I'm out of my own there I have something with so far it's an element foreign last priority we want to examine our current child's diagnosis intervention process I know that's something we're looking at the district as well how do we invest in your kids needs because their needs are very very different and they are changing dramatically over time and in very well the student to students from day to day so what can we do to best get them the support they need similar to what you asked about what you led in with Mr piano how are we doing our best to make sure that everyone is making the adequate growth academically social emotionally behaviorally in any areas they need to learn so so how's the year gone so far it's been wonderful uh we've got a great start welcome everyone back with our increased Staffing academic specialist we talked about this there's so much more partnering and we're seeing such a payoff um with teachers I neglected to mention that we have new reading units with Teachers College they put out some summaries that we're able to use right now and our teachers are very much enjoying the ability to sit down and co-plan in a clear manner it's been really helpful for our five new Platinum teachers we're also very happy and proud of our success of more boxing Community awareness buried that one already um and then the quick identification provision for resources for engineers and health we have we have some students who need very varying needs in varying different ways and we've been able to quickly identify those and Provide support for these students you know every timeline's different but we're very excited at the work we've done so far knowing oh well that we have another 150 days to build things together for our youngsters well there's some cute pictures I think there we go plus Safety Week by Mr O'Mara and there's another fire safety winner one of the things our special teams goals was they really want to communicate better they want to they felt they don't share enough with the community about what they're doing so that's why you're seeing lots of figures uh Mr O'Meara that said take a picture of this and send it out to people so a lot of the Twitter things have had things about wellness and if you're Bible school they have that spooky Halloween scavenger obstacle divorce these questions are you fully staffed Andy no where are you missing um yeah I just sent them update like 11 open positions uh eight are non-certified if I remember right seven eight or nine certified a couple maternity leaves that are coming up but now we are not fully's down we don't have any building substitutes we're missing five or six special edit arrows we have all of our tutors I know you're you're actively but so we're advertising in our community colleges we put a posting out at Central Connecticut States we're hoping that students who are in the educational profession uh as they graduate mid-year this is a way to get their foot in the door and say we are we are looking at every Avenue to try try to hire highly qualified staff the community to be going back inside the community to see what we can get and every applicant that gets interviewed probably within 24 hours it's usually raised across yeah it's cool you never know who's quicker um but yeah that's been a challenge so that has to have an effect right I mean not anybody not being bullied up yet I mean we have a staff of 70-ish we have seven days ten percent short and that's before you know life things uh so until it's out sick so-and-so has Cove and so and so you know because we can't fill the positions any other questions oh sorry I was just going to ask about this one page that was in this packet but not in this packet that we didn't I have why that was never really this is about the school climate um survey yeah the percent favorable so that's on page 14 of Andy's report that's in your packet page 14.

[Music] are the seventh graders in 21-22. correct so I'm sorry for fourth graders in 1818 um yes I guess it's yeah it's a big job I I know what happened in between for sure I've had one of those fourth graders sure but um sure and I think you know there and what we're gonna get into Nas is the district response um around the pieces yes they're the same kids but if you look at the way our seventh graders were growing through the pandemic they actually outperformed the growth that the students had recent time so it's it's an interesting um context for understanding what maybe their middle school is experiencing experiences with the added pandemic knowing that they are out for all the students we had Supreme pandemic and at that grade level not saying it doesn't need a response but just also thinking of it in that way um and we are going to get into some of the responses that it to this data that we immediately put into place seeing this data and knowing at the middle school we need to really understand deeply where students are in their progression towards standard and Mastery standard so Kara is going to speak to that but I absolutely hear what you're saying bro I just had a quick question and we're talking about pre-pandemic yeah if I recall on my time on the board previously when we used to do numbers as an overall District yeah and compare schools which we're not going to mention names my recollection is most of the schools were never over 50 with the exception of a few so the trend so the pandemic actually helps us out because the big drop egg pandemic man they dropped but the trend if you go back that was 2013 2014 to 2018.

Zach Richard some bit of a congestion outside the 18 and he's somehow unable to get any scoring opportunity Mike Monroe chasing it down and Armstrong quickly clears ball chase down by Melvin Melvin flying around excuse me Thibodaux flying around and now Ahmad chasing it down with Biggins a one-on-one battle on Biggins comes up with it and a foul on a mod as Biggins goes down and will be an East long metal free kick can't really be upset by that call they've been calling it all night so uh any any bit of contact on those high-speed plays The Ref has been blowing the whistle so antenna shares a few words with the referee of his disapproval Jack Marion fires this one down the center of the field and it goes off the head of Owen Hall and now Helen has to come all the way out of his net and grab the ball and allows his team to reset 23 30 remaining in regulation islametto currently holds the lead with a score of three to one Ben Biggins looks to clear and launches this one way out of bounds and now West Springfield looking to adjust Chris Torres exits the game for West Springfield and Josh Riley also exiting the game for East Longmeadow we sit at the 23 minute Mark here you saw Meadow still sitting at three to one after goal by the Terriers at the end of the first half say hello and his pass is broken up by Biggins as he sends a laser off the toe of Monroe Mike Monroe one-on-one battle and now Armstrong Monroe applying pressure and it goes off of a wolf Monroe and should be a throwing for peace and teeny of West Springfield goes right to the foot of marrigan and now Mitchell and a shot about 25 yards out misses the net I believe that was might have been Owen Hall on the shot and I have absolutely no idea what is going on right now free kick for West Springfield Armstrong set to take it West Springfield spreads themselves out on top of the 18 box Armstrong a Chip Shot looking towards the six and it kicks out all the way to Barker as he looks to volley it on net and it's blocked Armstrong fighting through traffic and he's now forced towards the sideline and his cross Patsy diascoli clearing and Owen Hall playing nicely to Barker Barker with some space makes a cup move towards the middle looking for a mod and Dudley chasing it down and it will result in a corner kick four West Springfield West Springfield definitely has some momentum here you Sawmills gotta clear I believe Dudley thought that was off of West Springfield and he let it go Ayanna mod adjusting his shoes and getting set to take the corner kick for West Springfield Ahmad looks far post looking for Thibodeau and ball spits all the way back out to Armstrong where his clear is blocked down by Monroe he stumbles two on two going the other way Monroe switches field to presnell as he looks to settle a head ball to Monroe and he takes down Armstrong and Owen Hall Ayanna mod working with the ball on the sideline Pena looks to play towards Ahmad and now Zach Richard switching Fields nicely and here comes Sam Hanley as he drops the ball back to Richard excuse me presnell and Owen Hall steals the ball and makes his way up field Thibodeau to Penna and now Mitchell as he looks for Ahmad and it's broken up by Dia Scully Zach Richard with a lot of real estate around Midfield he looks towards the far post excuse me the far Corner flag as Hanley chases it down a little too much gas behind that cross and we'll have a throw in for the Terriers and a clear to the foot of Richard batted down by McCarthy and Dia Scully and Biggins holding their line Joe presnell plays out wide to Hanley Sam Hanley with that strong left foot plays towards the middle to Zach Richard Ben Biggins relays it over to Jack mirror again and pass broken up by Ayanna mod as he makes his way back off field Jack marrigan applying some pressure forcing Ahmad out wide and his cross not a lot on it and Marion is going to go the safe route and punch that one out of bounds and will force the Terriers to have a throw in some nice defensive teamwork there by uh Biggins and marrigan American able to recover and then uh Biggins there to back him up and they uh make the play on a speedy uh kid like a mod so it's definitely good to see that angle and I'm off there Mitchell excuse me not Mitchell Flaherty throws that one in and piercing teeny Jacob Thibodeau looking for the volley kick on net and sails it wide and right some substitutions coming in free some metal as well as West Springfield number 21 Chris Torres stepping in for uh number 20 Mitchell and um Shane Smith stepping in for Joe fresnell for Easton Meadow and Zach Richard in a bit of a battle of Flaherty unable to Win It Biggins looking for someone at the Midfield mark Chris Torres Tyler wretchen and Shay McCarthy and Shane Smith jogging with the ball and he finds Hanley on the sideline as he looks up the line looking for Richard and deflected out of bounds off of a terrier and will be a throw in now for Andrew oliveiri on that far sideline Shane Smith has to come back to help out Patsy diascoli looking to clear and now Penna and that clear is blocked down by Biggins and now diascoli with some real estate as he plays to wretchen Gretchen up the line to Monroe Mike Monroe's got some space get some gold side positioning gets a shot and healing with an unbelievable save on Monroe prevents the goal and the lead from increasing to three healing just really coming up big for West Springfield this next goal is just going to be probably very indicative of how this game is going to go as Joe presnell steps in there for Shea McCarthy and Zach Richard Shane Smith Ben Biggins receives the clear from the Terriers and tries to switch Fields over to Hanley and places that ball out of the playing field Terriers with a quick throw on Penna looking to go the other way with Thibodeau and now a throw in for Flaherty and uh Wesley Field we'll call timeout hear him out we stood at just over 15 and a half minutes here three to one game Michael Monroe with the opportunity just a moment ago what do you think so far Brady I mean he's still on metal like like just kind of similar to the first half they started out very slow and there's definitely been some times here where West Springfield has had a lot more possession in their offensive zone but I so far I think this this half has been 50 50.

it's not in this one but it's in this one and just just had some concerns about some of the percentages present favorable for the social emotional security and physical safety yeah I can talk to those okay so the last time the survey was done was before code oh okay so this is a total group our school connectedness should have been down way more than three percent because parents weren't allowed in school as opposed to exposed to your experiences there oh okay so how is this from this is from 2019. yeah yeah okay um respect for diversity I was extremely proud of it's something that worked very hard so to see such gains to me is beneficial um Social Security was down and again you can't be near that person when you hear that for a while that kind of registers with a kid then the physical safety I kind of broke down um and I'm excited to possibly read those questions those double negative questions a seven-year-old doesn't understand what's being talked about oh okay okay I just want to make sure we I didn't I I didn't realize that this wasn't like we're recent where are the recent ones so .

we've always maintained that 50 or lower for fishing in both so yeah to my to my question that was going to come out wrong I'm still going to come out here before is I'm glad that we're changing up some of the things to do because for the six five or six years before the pandemic yes we were flat so that's interesting so that's yeah so thank you pandemic yeah I think that you know it's interesting to look at and there are schools that are about 50 now and so that is important to know correct um and thank you for about to remind you yeah yeah so depending on the grade law so um and and one thing that we know and and that they're you know the national research around where students are at this moment in time is that what the pandemic did was exacerbate some of the gaps that we already saw so what was their existing it really just exacerbated them right and so pretty so it is more like and now how do we respond um because it's this very um it's this moment in history where we need to be Innovative about how we respond to these numbers um and what we are hearing nationally is that people are doing a lot of the right things but just not at the right level or highest level of dosage that needs to be done and that becomes challenging around um Staffing this is a national issue I'm talking about that Dairy but they you know talk about Staffing shortages absenteeism that's happening nationally and employment and security for folks right yeah so my concern is coming out of the panel yeah when you have kids that are one or two great levels Beyond yes uh I'm assuming we're coming up to the district's react and and tell us that it's going to be all good well we're going to explain what we're doing as a response right right like decision making but you can talk around best practice a million different times but what we really need to be doing is responding to the students sitting in front of us right now that we need so I'm gonna let your app go to the athletes and then so you know I think it's important to point out something you know there are a couple of highlights of the data comparatively to certainly we we always aim to do better um every time we look at data we look at it relative to what we know is happening in our efforts um but also um you know we we definitely want to get back to pre-pandemic levels and even uh before but one of the things that the important to point out is that we had some red spots kind of at the elementary level and I think it's a testament to where we put some resources we added student support Specialists over the last couple of years we've added a phonics program that was structured and more rigorous than what we've had in place and the target of that intervention we're targeting fourth and fifth grade actually were the primary targets as students needing some additional support um and also provided some additional programs that we didn't have access to before in terms of the number of resources that we need to implement and so um it is it has been a tremendous amount of effort around creating a convention systems and we have invested in those areas and so I'd like to think that really made some invest in the staff I think we're seeing that we are seeing service results in those areas but certainly we have a place to grow to grow we need to make improvements so is this person well you know year by year we want to see growth year over year for sure um and so um you know the last couple of years obviously have been very hard to predict and I think one of the biggest responses that we did as a gesture was we spent a lot of time looking at data a variety of data sets and what we know that we need is here more than anything else was to get really clear diagnostic data there's almost the level that we can prescribe what students need down to that level so we invested and then you'll see it listed here a few times in a couple of different categories we invested happening in an i-Ready assessment system which is both norm and criteria reference so Norm is getting information around how students of similar here in peer group and age at a time any point in time are testing how they're performing and then this the the criteria piece is like here's the standard for what we want to see right so now you get really good information about where students fall relevant to their peers typical peers but then where they are with the standard and that as speaks to this need of you know growth and proficiency and everything in between about where students need to perform and then having the diagnostic tools deal to pinpoint group students live students together to create strategy groups into a project on specific standards where there needs some foundational information and I just wanted to mention to your point around students who might be significantly below grade level right this is the assessment that will allow teachers to see okay I'm teaching a seventh grade class but this student is actually missing foundational skills from fifth grade and to standards there so now these are the things they need to be explicitly taught to move them to the next regression okay so it's like when in responses data is like we needed to know more and put it in teacher's hands because they're the folks who do will move the students the most we can admire the problem all day but our teachers are the ones who have to plan for it right and nothing that answers on the next slide yeah um um so I see you do kind of sort of already answered my questions so the data that we're seeing here is grouped by grade level but we're using this also to identify the individual students that may be at me and is and and being able to better identify these students are numbers for additional services and special needs numbers going up because of this ability to better identify them it's not that they necessarily go up but it's specific and clear okay right so you can look at an assessment from um the spring of last year but now you really want to know how they're doing this year and progressing throughout the year so now we are able to get this assessment three times you know three different benchmarks and it gives targets and goals that that student is supposed to reach as well as stretch goals the other thing if I could just add the hope is is that we can find out where students are struggling earlier on and provide more targeted and prescribed interventions that will be able to get kids on or back on track sooner and good interventions actually should in theory reduce the referrals to special education and the need for long-term Services there's a ton of research particularly around reading that if you can catch kids and get them back track at the elementary grade levels particularly before third grade that the need for Special Education Service services and other services are nursing so not to say that we sometimes aren't surprised by things it's like we may need to consider a referral because we certainly do that but really the hope is in the interaction services so those student support Specialists that Kara referenced earlier are really critical to make sure that we can provide quick and targeted interactions at the individuals to level so that we prevent long-term problems for our kids so I'm sorry so these assessments are given three times during the course of the school year so we have a lot of different assessments depending on the grade level of the students so the i-Ready assessment which care is referencing as a part of Stan cage flow that's actually paintings so we haven't had a back assessment that's been vertically aligned um in place really ever I mean we had to starve at students with at the youngest levels it wasn't really appropriate and wasn't capturing independent Garden so now we have the KA that's three times a year in ela we have I ready also with the ELA side of it 60 but then K5 they take the Dibbles assessment and and so we're limited somewhat in which assessment we can give by the state um it needs to be also a dyslexia screener and and different things but so it's a different assessment but we do that three times a year so thing you know a lot of this is like alphabet soup to me um is it possible to do uh like a chart for each grade what tests you do oh for sure yeah yeah just to get it straight in my mind yeah it's publishing the teaching and learning guide and thank you for your question okay so it's what happens to me yeah um so so what you see here on the K-12 side are just different performance or something new for example so these are some of the efforts that are happening in the same area um and again I already own it has been has been a huge piece to implementing this year and learning um and getting our our not just our teachers and our administrators how to speak on how to use this powerful system and how to artists monitor in their building so there's been a lot of work that I was supposed to place each narrowly towards here if you have any questions I'm certainly happy to answer those we've done a lot of work this year on understanding standards more deeply and hearing that with professional development and placing in the right tools and enhance the teachers so that they can understand where to support students and how to bring in foundational knowledge to remediate areas but then also to accelerate when students are ready for work so then we continue to work on that this is not a this is not a short-term plan this is a continual plan over time that we're going to be working on for some time you've done a lot of work in all of the content areas in rolling out new programs that have high quality resources that are aligned to the state standards and so one of the I'll say Silver Linings of the of the pandemic or the ability to be able to acquire resources that would happen after some time and so we've been purchasing and purchasing and purchasing and we feel that we've outfitted the teachers classrooms with quite a bit in grade level and intervention it's that that span arranged now that is more appropriate to understand it in classrooms then also already on time that occur in Mission the biggest professional development that you'll see kind of happening in all these areas is really around the idea of Standards the master fatigue and curriculum how to follow piecing in a way that doesn't meet the needs of the learner to really dig into dig into those standards um Carowinds are mentioned a little bit about some of the I don't think you mentioned my Factor my path and some of the areas that we have as an Adaptive learning piece that can prescribe practice for students in a targeted area so if you remember like an ISL and some other programs that we have the map my path it responds to the assessment piece of my ready so it's another very powerful tool we'd love to understand that at some point but we'll see how we'll see who we are maybe this time next year um and again focusing on sense making mathematical computational skills and then making sure that we have high quality curriculum resources of our teachers as I mentioned before you can post it yeah that was good thank you as I mentioned before we invested a lot around getting to get our literacy program off the ground we invested into being a weaver program which is a structured Finance program we rolled that out in the middle of the pandemic and I think we're seeing some good results of that in the number of students that are reducing that being tested Intervention which is great going into the middle school we are looking forward to a need to implement our program in 2023 at literacy program so we're still in the research process the list has produced the state has has produced a list for us to begin making decisions around and you talk more about that in our curriculum group in November I'm happy to update on that as well and again there are a couple different assessments we'll share that out with Awards and understand what kind of different types of Assessments will be and then again Target an Intervention Program K5 and then Universal screening with the Dibbles as parallels prevention and then all of our professional development against centered around are seeing the standards five please so similarly in Humanities at the 612 level again I ready is the Divinity part of the work and understanding of teachers and the leadership of the department Peterson are there in helping our teachers sense maybe from the data that we're seeing they've dedicated a lot of time to creating the space India teams part of that and it's not been listed here on this slide but has been an investment in something called PLC plus which is really how to how to take your team and your group and engage in a system of continuous learning and to self-orient yourself for Success so we were happy to be able to introduce that to some of our staff as well we've invested in language Learners so we provided some additional sheltered classes so we've pushed our side of coaching to some of our courses to support some of our second language Learners and that's been very successful the goal of that is to help those background knowledge that kids again can access the curriculum I'll move down to 912.

I mean both teams have had good scoring opportunities and both goalies coming up with good saves um I mean so far pretty even but you saw miles definitely got to keep their foot on the gas here you know they can't get let the two goal lead get into their head too much because there's still a lot of time remaining on that clock 15 and a half minutes is a lot of time and anything can really happen I mean this is just bringing me back to last year uh I believe in either I might have been the semi-finals but um I mean East Longmeadow was down three goals going into the second half and came back in 1A and shootouts I mean anything can happen in soccer and uh a two goal lead one of the toughest leads to hold in any sport so they've got to just continue to keep the intensity up keep their composure and finish this one off yeah definitely there's uh here in the second half there's definitely been um some lapses and he's talking about his intensity and we're not seeing quite as much dominance as we saw towards the end of second half there free some Meadow but uh obviously someone was looking to keep this lead to two and uh hopefully advance to the semi-finals here in this western Mass tournament I believe we will have I think a corner yeah uh I think a throw in Clarity eyes all the way over in that far sideline oh I didn't see all right and he'll launch this one inside the 18 off the head diascoli looking to clear and Torres and Shane Smith coming back to help Sam Hanley finds the foot of Zach Richard as he has the overlapping wretch in and unable to find him but finds the other side with Hanley as Hanley looks now for wretchen and oh the hall able to clear and now I'll pass Tyler wretchen defended nicely by Owen Hall and wretchen trying to keep that ball in and it should have gone off of a terrier [Music] I think it did go off a terrier but the referee will signal a goal kick and he will call Shane Smith over with some words for him sit under just under 15 minutes here goal kick for the Terriers Armstrong just short of the Midfield mark off the head of Joe presnell Ben Biggins stepping up on Penna and he kicks all the way back to Flaherty as he launches one up to Ahmad Tyler Dudley has to come out of his neck and able to get a leg on it prevent Ahmad from having a breakaway Zach Richard to Joe Prezzo One Touch back to the foot of McCarthy and now out wides Oliveri Sam Hanley a one-on-one with Flaherty on the far sideline Joe presnell chipping it up looking for teammate and nobody home but it does go out of bounds off of Flaherty and a throw in now for Andrew Oliveri looking back at that big step up for uh Dudley kid has just been outstanding tonight and uh made the right decision um Ahmad has been able to use his speed to get past that back line here tonight and uh playing to Tyler wretchen and he's defended by piercentini but a heel pass would have had Richard wide open but it's broken up by Torres and he's able to clear all the way back to Dudley sorry for cutting you off there Chad it's okay it's got a little bit excited Tyler Dudley set to punt this one and it was off the leg of Barker bit of a flying heel from Oliveira see kicks it towards the Midfield bark Pia centini comes out of nowhere and it's defended nicely by Biggins Tyler wretchen clears up the sideline right to the foot of Owen Hall [Music] as he takes his sweet old time and looks towards Thibodeau now Thibodeau racing up the far sideline and unable to cross it exits the playing field off of a Spartan and will result in a West Springfield Terrier should be a corner kick and it will be there's a big one here for Us Springfield Under 12 and a half minutes here they need to get one soon if they want to have any chance at advancing here in this playoff Torres with the cross far post and it goes out of bounds I believe okay off of any slow metal player so another opportunity for the Terriers Ayana mod this time from the opposite corner flag his cross to the near post off the knee of presnell excuse me Richard and now another pass in from Ahmad and Dudley comes all the way out to punch it and now he saw metal making their way up field taken down on the play as Shane Smith Jake fibito just an aggressive play but Smith's going to get the call in his favor Andrew Oliveri will have the free kick for the Spartans just over 11 minutes left the second half of this quarterfinal Sam Hanley a little bit mossed by Flaherty Biggins Ahmad taken down by marrigan no call West Springfield sideline very upset about that one Zach Richard to Tyler wretchen and he chips it looking for Mike Monroe or Zach Richard and goes out of bounds off of Armstrong Spartan throwing on this near sideline for Jack marrigan Americans quick throw into wretchen and his cross to Monroe and Monroe a little too far out and that will exit the playing field a goal kick now for Armstrong perhaps a little bit beneficial that you saw Meadows time starts to really tick down here for West Springfield and a clear from Flaherty Jack marrigan steps up in front of a mod but not before Thibodeau was able to clear it right back towards the defensive line Andrew Oliveri chased down by Thibodeau and Mike Monroe has to play it out as Armstrong was pursuing and that's Torres his cross looking for piacentini Ahmad trying to get goalside positioning and the volley from psantini off the head again and finally cleared out by Shane Smith Joe preszell chasing it down and finally able to regroup East Longmeadow has some numbers going the other way Joe preszell trying to settle it down able to have some space touches it shoots and it goes over the crossbar some excellent control there by Fresno as there is some confusion about where the ball will be coming from for the goal kick again president able to use his body to box this guy out and then open himself up for a lefty shot inside of the box so 840 remaining in regulation El up 3-1 Barker trying to find a mod and the clear over to the sideline Sam Hanley unable to keep it in throwing for the Terriers Flaherty right off the face of Oliveri and now Flaherty once again this time off of Penna and Barker working with Melvin Jack marrigan Pierre centini a one-on-one battle with Tyler wretchen and wretchen using his body bodies piacentini off the ball and Sam or excuse me Jack marrigan will have the throw in American's throwing off the back of Richard and Melvin switches Fields quickly to Thibodeau Thibodeau with a great self pass over the head of Oliveri and he looks to shoot and gets one on net but Dudley's there to come up with another big save Dudley has definitely kept the Eastlawn medal in this game tonight some unreal saves from him absolutely he's been a big player here because we approach the seven minute Mark here at Spartan Stadium leads three to one if you're just joining us here on lcat Armstrong set to take the free kick at the Midfield marker Armstrong sends it towards the top of the 18 as it trickles inside the six looking for a foot of a terrier unable to connect and will result in an East Longmeadow goal kick for Jack Marion as a sub comes in Brendan Stone will replace Zach Richard [Music] foreign 's clear looking for presnell and stolen by Armstrong and now Mike Monroe with a bit of a push from the back from Torres he's bodied off the ball and exchanges a couple with Torres and now Flaherty sends a through ball Ahmad has some space Dudley has to come all the way out [Applause] and some contacts with Dudley results in a free kick for East Longmeadow they'll be able to use his body as well as some coordination to grab control that ball and box out any attackers just a great play there he's been good all night American sends this one Sky High directly to the head of Owen Hall and Ahmad looks to get a head ball on it and Monroe able to find it first and Biggins some contact on Penna Pia centini looking to make his way towards the middle of the field and now Joe presnell chasing down Armstrong and we have finally reached the five minute Mark brought to you by Hot Table panini and now Shane Smith making his way up field Melvin stops IT and the remaining time of Regulation will be kept by the referees on fields and a throw in now for Oliveri samanlius self pass over the head of Flaherty and this ball exits the playing field just around four minutes remaining in regulation he's somehow looking to close this one out sub coming in now for the Spartans Zach Richard I believe they uh stop time in between throw-ins and now Oliveri sends this one and great to the foot of Flaherty as Ahmad chases it down and a mod trying to keep it in bounds and it exits the playing field will be an East long metal throwing Charlie wretchen Marion excuse me Jack marrigan taking the throw in you saw Meadow looking to finish this game off here with the 3-1 lead Shane Smith Joe pressell has some space Armstrong was taken down on the play and Owen Hall with some extracurriculars from Joe presnell and West Springfield Terriers will have a free kick late in this second half Armstrong sends a chip towards the right side of the six and it goes cleanly out of bounds on the goal line and will result in an East long metal goal kick for Jack marrigan with just around three and a half ish minutes remaining Jack Marion set to take this goal kick and launches this one just around the half field mark presnell Armstrong goes over his back and able to Win It [Music] and a nice defensive breakup by diascoli Barker playing to Thibodeaux Penna back to Thibodeaux Seminole looking for the cross towards the PK mark it spits out some space available and juggling Dives on it thank you just about two and a half to go Dudley taking his time Joe presnell with Owen Hall Pierre centini and Torres spit of a push on Monroe and Flaherty with Sam Hanley chase down his Clear goes off the head of Monroe Zach Richard looking to get involved now Chris Torres Monroe clears towards the far sideline Sam Hanley is there to keep the ball in bounds and under two minutes remaining in regulation Zach Richard applying pressure on Owen Hall as Hall makes a nice Cut move and a bit of a communication between him and arms John Armstrong's able to grab the ball and clear it up the sideline and we'll be a throw in now for East Longmeadow Andrew oliveiri throws it in just around a minute and a half remaining and now Thibodeau trying to make things happen late in the game and a throw in now for the Terriers Torres goes back to Flaherty and now Flaherty unable to clear inside Armstrong sends a seed right to the foot of Torres Mark Monroe looking to clear Armstrong comes all the way back and keeps it in the offensive zone off the head of Penna and now Shane Smith Chris Torres and it's all over chance starting to resonate from the East Long Middle student section under a minute remaining in regulation Armstrong trying to get the ball and that'll do it East Longmeadow advances to the semi-final game winning 3-1 goal scorers Zach Richard with the first of the night follow up by two with Sam Hanley the third goal being scored on a penalty kick all in the first half I mean some dominant performances shown by some Eastlawn metal players and overall the team just looks very connected tonight and I'm definitely excited going in to the next game you saw Meadow through the season has improved to an eight and seven and two record here finally breaking that 500 and that's a big win for you some metal to get they're really starting to develop as a team coming into uh or moving on into the semi-final game I don't know if we have a date for that quite yet it might be tomorrow but I could be mistaken I think that the girls play tomorrow yeah I am not sure when their next game will be but hopefully you'll be able to join us that evening if I don't have hockey and I pray that I don't uh that would be a real shame because Chad you never know this could have been my last time commentating here on lcat as the season is starting to wind down for both boys and girls soccer and if hockey interferes then this could be my last time signing off here on lcat so I thank you for all who have been watching me and you can chat you know well I will be in the student section on Friday because that is my last game so fair enough um this could be my last time hour last time signing off um so we thank all of you who have been joining us the past two years we hope that we've made your experience good and we won't say goodbye yet but thank you for right so on page 14 of Andrew's report you'll see the percent favorable this was from last spring so that is 20. so I'll answer a bit of that 2020 was in the midst of the pandemic we didn't have our survey was more about do you have what you need uh do you have do you have access to technology it was it was those types of questions then even in 2021 then the question was was more around what are the needs that you have um it didn't get into the same level of granularity that we were able to come back now to in 2019 because the models of models of learning were different so is this change reflective of 2019 to 2021 yes essentially yeah 222 . that's what we were trying to do yeah and then when is that how often is that done it's done every spring yeah the state requires um every two years but we we administer it every year each district does it a little bit differently we've actually been um working with Amanda Pickett from the state to be able to calibrate a little bit more about how we how we are what are the questions of asking how are we asking to be able to get you know increased opportunities to be able to find actionable battles but we we like what we've been able to use over time who administers it uh Panorama is the survey company so they they do it digitally for most folks but for our Littles at Cherry Brook they're able to do a pen and paper and teachers will read the questions and be able to mark that up they do them all digitally last year remember oh that's right forgive me for not knowing this but how do we uh survey the parents same way an email goes out to all the parents through Panorama I send out an email saying please be on the lookout for the information of the Panorama it goes directly to their email based on the rostering that we have of all the information in our PowerSchool and the participation in that survey is I'd have to go back and look it's it's okay and the previous year was not very good we were we did it later this past year was better but it's still we're 30 40 a little over a third I think which is good I mean it's good I mean we want we want 100 participation but when you look at as you were talking about earlier right Mr Daniels you know we want 30 to 40 as it could results and it's it's designed to have teased out areas of focus with individual questions within it to be able to give a sense of this is what this area means this is what this or an indication of you know School connect school connectedness um uh respect for diversity leadership there are several items that are laid out for each of those to be able to measure that and then several open response uh elements as well that allow parents to be able to learn anyone need to be able to put in whatever whatever this chart on page 14 here is that student responses parent responses are both both that's an aggregate of both okay I'm sorry this is stupid student school class so is there a separate chart for that the reason I asked that you know where Eric was coming from as well the members of the top are great and it's just if you have all those other things Leadership School connectedness respective diversity why wouldn't you feel safe at school so that's actually very funny um the first one is a lot of our kindergartners and first graders don't feel safe because of the playground that slide's really tall so I gotta remember five six three I'm afraid to go on one few months so there's some really you know what I mean like what kind of questions do they ask a kindergartener those are the same question I know John sent you a list of questions same questions and and I can I can share I can share those out with that I'm happy to give this out to the board for the the school um the student uh School climate surveys so those are different for Cherry Brook for CIS the Middle School in the high school as they should be based on the ages and stages the staff survey is the same for everyone and the family and Community survey is the same for everyone but then we're able to disaggregate it based on the school that they're responding it was actually surveying kindergarten students yes how are we doing that with it with the teacher and to answer the kids so that's a newer thing that started this last year so just to answer your question so 92 percent of Market is still safe in school when you look at that one question when you look at the four or five other questions that go with it those were very low because specifically I have seen students being hurt at school more than once 28 disagreed with them which means that so that's where the confusion comes anytime they are supposed to disagree instead of agree our numbers go way down so that's why that's why we're going to look at changing those bacterial effect because I'm very confused yeah and if you had the parents survey and the teacher survey well you get the same percentages for roughly the same percentages for all those categories would they be addressed the parent survey is much higher or lower our parent surveys are like in our lowest areas the rest are in the midnight we have those surveys and I think that would be meaningful at that point Rebecca her presentation didn't break it out so you'll see him Rebecca I think you broke it out students and parents students and parents I believe I just have a quick question too um Matt on age 17 of our of our you know under math and has um having a very first grade manager by the end of year but on second and third it has end of year or end of unit assessments is that a typo or is that end of a certain unit and so why kindergarten first grade um when we went over the last year's data kindergarten first grade those number Corner assessments are kind of ongoing throughout the year testing all the standards throughout and we found that to be a better reliability than the end of unit assessments because you know the kids because these units build upon each other for second and third grade the number corner and the end of the units don't quite match up the way they should or the way we would like them to be so we're looking at the end of the unit so that way we know on multiplication division this is how this group did so that's that's why it's broken out so is that why it's at like 75 because at the end of the unit after the end of the year for whether two degrees or more toward 90.
