um currently there is a official shortage is what they go with so nine games will be played tonight on Friday night and seven games on Saturday and you get this feel right here yes it is a playoff game but it kind of feels like a regular season game too with it being played at night yeah I mean I I think whenever I played at Herscher Sam right we it was uh that was a Friday night um I think the last Saturday game we had was when when you guys played um but I mean yeah you kind of get the same atmosphere as a regular season game but coming in you have to know that uh this could be the last game of your career for those seniors uh so you got to let it all out there on the field and um just do all you can for your team look at this game when you look at the season for the Eagles in their schedule the five teams that made it in 3A Roxanna will be hosting Hillsboro that is a 8-9 seed and then the 4A um a little bit of thought was going to be that we were going to be hosting Coal City if we would have won the game last week unfortunately we did not so East Alton Wood River will be going to Coal City Mountain Zion will be going to number five seeded Breeze Central the 10-seated Bulldogs will go to only tomorrow a 10-7 matchup and then you go up to the 5A bracket where Marion will be going to the seven seeded Mascoutah and Jared we were looking at the 4A bracket what do you know about the top or is there anybody that you do know anything about on who would make their way to Champaign um well not I don't know too much about a lot of those Chicago schools I do know Juliet is usually loaded with a lot of talent and you were talking about that whoever wins between them and I think you said Richmond um and uh what would that be the semis we'll probably go to State and win it all so um we'll see uh we'll see what that top half looks like then you go down to the bottom half Carterville and Geneseo Geneseo plays a bigger conference uh talking to a couple of the people here in Murfreesboro they play Carterville said Carterville is a pretty good team but Geneseo they're playing in a five six eight conference so Ian aren't they all the way like way way up yeah they got a five hour trip tomorrow to Carterville two Carterville they play at one o'clock tomorrow then you look uh at Coal City Wood River they play tomorrow at two Rochester the four seeds so if you look at you know you break down the bracket here Rochester um they got a way to get to the semi-finals at least we'll say Breeze in Mount Zion that could be an interesting game Breeze very good team but Mount Zion they can sling it yeah and Breeze will have that home game being the five seed so we'll see how that one plays out but I'm I'm betting coach short he's gonna be ready for that one at home then you got Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin which will get the winner of only and Waterloo Waterloo still looking for their first Victory um in the postseason I don't know if they have one at all and then the winner of this game will play the winner of Macomb Quincy Notre Dame and again talking to some people around here they said you know whoever gets through this game has a shot at getting past either yeah yeah so we are going to go to the national anthem and when we return we will talk about the Eagles and the Red Devils and the postseason right after this [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] so Jared we look at the Eagles making it to the postseason for the 25th time in the 50 years of CHS football Colombia comes in with a 21-24 record second place in 2007 we lost to Plano already talked about that game and we made it to the semifinals two times where we got beat I believe in that 2018 was against ducoin and in 1992 was my week was Central a m and we got beat in the quarterfinals one time to Deer Creek McNamara um coming in this year 628 students so we're right in the middle of everyone in the 4A bracket and then you look at coach Warner and Coach G 18 times they've been in the postseason now out of their 22 Seasons but let's just call it 21 because that 2020 season there was no postseason we were still 5-1 and this is the 12th time in a row that the Eagles have made the 4A playoffs dating back to 2011.

wow that's that that's a real record right there 12 in a row wow the only one I know decline when we played them I think it was 26 times whenever they were doing it so uh you can definitely get in there a bunch into coin they still have a good program whenever you talk about them Colombia three teams did not make the playoffs this year Marquette obviously had a down year as Salem did not make it Freeburg starts the year 3-0 and then go oh and six unfortunate for them uh just to start on start out strong and can't make it and then Jerseyville obviously so I guess four teams didn't make it um Jerseyville four and five but they played a tough schedule and played at the end of the year played pretty well looks like uh we got what five and a half they just add a little bit more time here five and a half minutes now uh both teams are about to about to run out right now onto the field before Murfreesboro takes the field they're coming into week 10 their program dates back to 1914.
108 years old 20 times they've been in the playoffs their playoff record 17-20 they have won second place finish back in 2019 and they had three of their opponents make it into the postseason play they had Benton who is in 3A and I believe it was who else do we have here Carterville is 9-0 they are the number one seed in for a Benton 8-1 the number two and three a and then Harrisburg was five and four in there the 13 seed in 3A Carterville hosts Geneseo which is like we said five hour ride Benton hosts Stanford Olympia should be a win and Harrisburg goes up to Tolono unity in Tolono Unity is a team that's been playing in the state championship for years on yeah and as I'm looking uh at Murfreesboro schedule I had this year I remember a couple of those teams that we played back in the day um in the playoffs I see uh West Frankfort uh ducoin like you said earlier I think we played Heron and Carterville that was the most hostile environment that we've ever had to play in so uh We've we've met up with a lot of the same teams um so tonight we're going to face them and see what we can do against Murfreesboro well the Eagles just took the field the fans came across made a tunnel for the players pretty good showing for the Columbia fans here the parents brought a bus down here to Murphy and now as you can hear the Red Devils are about to take the field like we said already once before pretty good atmosphere down here yeah we said we wanted we said we wanted to hear a little bit of the game I think we're hearing a lot of it now yeah you look at Murfreesboro will be coming in tonight seven and two four and one in conference play 588 students so they are smaller nuts second place in the southern Illinois River to River conference and put some points up on the scoreboard 41-17 is their average score let's talk a little bit about the players that we're going to mention 2 000 rushing yards form a thousand yards passing they got some playmakers all over the field yeah I think uh Sam was talking to me a little bit too um was that number two number four number four the wide receiver who's gonna be catching a lot of passes um got a lot of speed so we're probably gonna have to do a lot with him tonight yeah I just was watching watching him a bunch pre-game um and they got a lot of athletes out on the field a lot of speed so our defense has got to do a pretty good job tonight setting the edge and forcing them back inside so our defense can make a tackle yeah and I mean looking at looking at this whole atmosphere right now I don't think Columbia's played in a game like this all year so they're gonna they're gonna have to come out ready because I mean Murfreesboro looks like they're ready so right off the get-go we get the ball we're gonna have to have a good drive to start off the game and try to get some early points yes sir we need to set the tone soon um Columbia definitely has hasn't had this much of a hostile environment so far this year so it's definitely going to be a test of their character tonight but I think we got some guys who who really are going to dig deep and put a good effort in to give themselves the best chance at winning this game for the eagles they will be receiving the opening kick and I think that's what we're going to need to do we're gonna have to control the clock a little bit here tonight something that you always hear coach Horner talking about and this is a game you're going to have to and Jared what time do you got oh let's equal football time Alex it is Eagle football time Eagles coming out all white uniforms white on white blue letters white top Jerseyville or Jerseyville Murfreesboro coming out in their jerseys that are red on red yellow helmets yellow numbers and they will be kicking off number 12 we'll be doing the kicking for them and we got so many papers up here Jared I lost my uh roster for them I think his last name is bozie yep AJ Bosey he is going to be doing the kick they kick from the hash they're gonna be kicking from left to right Murfreesboro fans still up in the air it's Eagle football time it is week 10 football as they send it deep a little bit of a collision almost for the Eagles but it's going to be Mason vaguely with the reception and he's going to be hit almost immediately at the 20-yard line where the Eagles offense will start like Sam said you got to come out control the line of scrimmage uh just try to get a couple first downs you don't even really score you just need to put a little pressure on that defense um to let them know that you've come ready to play and drove two hours ready for this one the good thing about the sport of football is there is four quarters so if we can set the tone early and um let's put this game in our hands where we're marching the ball down the field and running some clock out I think we'll put ourselves in a good opportunity gonna go tight with the formation pistol back you're gonna hand the ball off to Janet to the up the middle he's going to bend to the right side the defensive player gets off his black but Janet keeps his feet moving maybe gets a yard and I don't know who that right tackle was right there but I think they just kind of gave up on the Block and it ended up nothing happening there for the Eagles you know I think cam was trying to read that right tackle and he didn't really know if he wanted to cut it up early or keep keep flowing towards the sideline a little bit I'm only gained maybe a half a yard so we'll see if uh coach Warner can do something here on second and nine Janik comes off and Nick Janet comes on looks like rain water came off at the last second I didn't see who the other Eagle was we're gonna go doubles to the left side tight end sniffer back right running back to the left of vaguely and the emotion man likes the motion man Eagles are looking deep down the middle of the field and they're going to stop short it's going to be wike on the catch and it's going to be a first down for the Eagles good job protecting there by the Eagles offensive line they need it all the time in the world for vaguely and he gets it and if you look at that play right there that safety was cheating all the way over towards this side if vaguely could put his feet down and maybe uh slinging across the field it's a dangerous throw but it might have been there yeah and coming in I mean if you watch a little film all you got to really do is know uh you got to stop number 12 as much as you can uh we're not really going to give him a chance here early but uh good first down there to start off gonna be the same play from the first play of the game and it's going to be Janik once again this time good movement there by the offensive line good for seven yards brings up second and three and after he handed that off Dom with a great fake running towards the sideline uh you probably had one or two guys move their head over and look and see if he had the ball it's a great sellout there by Don Begley you're going to see rain water in well I guess you're really not going to see it because we're Audio Only but if you could see it rain water going to be a wide receiver tonight a lot and look at coach Warner here now he's talking on the headset taking his time and like we mentioned in that Aces wild pregame show clock management is going to be our friend Begley's going to have Yannick to his left side three down lineman for the Red Devils they're gonna fake it to Yannick vaguely keeps it gets a yard brings up a third and two what do you got going on in your mind right now Sam I think if we uh can establish a block up front here and give Dom a little bit of time to make a decision I think he'll be in good shape um you know having a guy like 12 back there who's so good at throwing the ball and passing the ball it really opens your playbook up um on these third and short opportunities so Eagles are the line of scrimmage in a hurry hard count don't get anything three down linemen two linebackers we're gonna send wike over to the right side as a sniffer back Cameron janick moves to the right side of vaguely at the running back position to split out wide receivers they're going to send a man on the blitz we're gonna throw it vaguely looking down the middle of the field he's got Wetzel and it's going to be intercepted intercepted by number four we're gonna talk about him he's got a good wall of blockers he's going to try to make a play cuts across the field gets into Eagle territory at the 50 now to the 40.
where he goes out of bounds Abernathy there on the interception and we're going to talk about him a lot tonight on both sides of the board [Music] so Murphy's going to take over with 8 57 in the first quarter from the Eagles 39-yard line defense has got to do a good job here on first down and getting a stop and like we said pregame forcing them into that second and third and long to where we can give our defenses opportunities to make stops so I wouldn't be surprised here to see uh some sort of um outside motion gonna be a Pitch to the right side Eagles are going to have to chase from behind and they do great job by Wetzel getting off his block and making the tackle going to be good for five light flag in a late late flag after the play officials getting together talking about it now and it's like do you like him throwing that ball there third and two um I don't know if I really like the match up there yeah I think Abernathy's got some size on Wetzel see if I can figure out which piece of paper to look at for that uh what do you got for Abernathy's size it says six foot 160.
wow he looked bigger than that to Wetzel penalty is going to be a personal foul on the Red Devils so it's gonna be a 15 yard penalty pushes them back to the 50. there's just some extra blocking after the play out of bounds yeah looking back to that uh interception I think uh Dom had wike out there in the flats that he could have dumped off and and maybe helped work the clock up a little bit but I'm not against taking a shot um in the first quarter I know we talked about keeping the clock rolling um but sometimes against teams like this you got to have a big play that could get some momentum going so three down linemen for the Eagles motion manual left side it's going to be a jet out to the left side gonna be caught by number 22 and what do you know there you go Hicks on the tackle seven yard gain but good job by Logan chasing from behind and that's all you want to see as many white hats to the football as possible uh coach Germaine talks about that every practice especially during the playoff playoff football so um because I mean every week every week in the playoffs you're playing the team that's that's better every week so um definitely coming into this game uh Jerseyville handed it to us last week but Murfreesboro is going to have athletes all over the field and we're just gonna have to be there third and 14 now for the Red Devils ball in the left hash at the 43 motion man number 11.
they're gonna hand it to him run right up the Middle with them there's nothing going Joe Kish clogs up the middle and he's gonna give a stop maybe a gain of one fourth and long and I saw number four over here got a little mad I think he he had a solo one-on-one matchup with Zach Wetzel um which is a matchup that we're gonna have to watch all night um so we're gonna have to definitely watch out for number four yeah great defensive stand here from the Eagles on the first drive did exactly what we've been talking forcing them into those uh third and long and we were able to come up big there for a stop so Eagles forced to punt fourth and 13 from their own 42. vaguely standing in about the 10. gonna be a running kick nearly runs into an eagle and Hal wetzel's got to get out of the way as the ball was just low Line Drive Wetzel nearly got taken out but the Eagles offense will come back out at the 18-yard line we're gonna stick right here saying we come usually to Jared and we say his three keys of the game what do you we'll go to from you and we'll have one of Jared's Keys man I VY for us is defensively just being able to force their athletes back inside to where we have numbers to make tackles um I don't think it's any secret that Murfreesboro is a very very fast team definitely faster than what we have vaguely is going to take the run to the outside he's going to get caught from behind get a couple sorry to cut you off but Begley was just in an empty backfield ran off to the right so go on with what you're saying yeah I just think that if we can uh Force those guys back inside and not get let them get outside and outrun us we'll do pretty good defensively I also think uh offensively if we can establish up front running the ball I think that will give us a huge advantage to milking that clock tonight and and moving the ball up the field seven minutes to go in the first quarter tied in right sniffer back right we're gonna hand the ball off to the left and it's going to be nothing going for the Eagles that time as Janet got back to the line of scrimmage and you look right there I don't know if Nick Janik or uh yeah Janik no who was it Cameron yeah I don't think if he got it right away I don't know if he was expecting in it as quick as it got there or what but just an odd play yeah you really had no cutback Lane either there was a guy in his face right whenever uh he pretty much got the ball so um third down here big play under 6 30 now crowd gets into it we're gonna go trips left Bunch three down lineman two linebackers running back to the left side of vaguely he's Gonna Roll he's gonna step up into the pocket now he's gonna have to scramble make something happen he's got a lot of room on that right side he's got a first down he's got the 40.
and he's out of bounds first down for the Eagles and that's just number 12 being an athlete there uh he's supposed to roll out to his left there but uh that whoever our left left tackle was there kind of got pushed back where he's right where he's supposed to roll to um and he did a great job of stepping up and seeing on the back side of the field a lot of uh white jerseys and no red jerseys so uh great great first down there eagles now have the ball at their own 40-yard line 608 on the game clock tight end sniffer back right running back right vaguely takes a handoff fakes it he's going to throw it to the right rainwater with the reception he gets three and nothing after that as he's caught right away but that's still three yards Anna we've seen this year with that with that screen pass you're supposed to go diagonal after you catch it and a lot of them whenever they catch it um they want to run straight down the middle of the field or just straight straight down the hash mark um so they got they gotta look to try to get diagonal across across the middle of the field same formation 5 40 on the clock now three down lineman once again for the Red Devils sending two guys looking like a blitz that's going to be kept by vaguely goes to the right side he's trying to dodge his way around gets two third and five from the 45.
third and five here Sam what you got I don't know I wouldn't be I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of play action here maybe um I don't know it's hard to say they gotta I know coach Warner's got a pretty good playbook um back there so I'm sure he'll whip something up here So based on his hand motions right there we're gonna have a bubble in here somewhere and I almost like yeah I almost like him escaping the pocket again um and using his feet if he sees something downfield uh just use his feet to pick up the first down trips to the left side number three is coming from the left side we got the cross middle and it's Wetzel he's got the 40 turn on the jet sweat so he's 30. 20 getting chased from behind he's gonna go down to the seven yard line first didn't go for the Eagles first look I thought that ball was going to Yannick and that it's because this thing in the middle of me I didn't even see Wetzel on this side uh he was he was wide open there on that slant route great ball great job by uh don Begley I think that was his first read and wow what an explosive play for the Eagles and that's what you need that'll pick up some momentum for our offense for sure uh it boosts a lot of confidence to these guys and I think that'll uh help us out here for the rest of this game empty backfield now doubles to the right side rainwater to the left by himself tight end right sniffer back right vaguely keeps himself he lowers the shoulder he gets to the two keeps his feet moving no call down at the one hey I think I do the same thing I think you do too that's a lot they're going Tempo he's gonna get the snap he looks like a blitz linebacker makes him miss a bunch of Red Devils there pulling back for a loss of one there a lot of white linemen turning around looking backwards looks like two are coming out two are going off for the Eagles so it looks like we might go a little uh shotgun bringing in a running back now I would assume yeah we cannot you cannot turn the ball over here that is huge 340 in the first quarter now we got everybody in the backfield with vaguely no wide receivers everyone's right up tight Begley takes a snap he hands the ball off to cam janick he gets behind those big blockers gets into the red double End Zone touchdown Eagles let's go talk about silent in the crowd great job great drive there for the Eagles getting on the scoreboard 328 in the first quarter very impressive drive there by by The Eagles uh coach Horner with some with a great play call there on third down to give his guys an opportunity Zach Wessel setting him up with the cam janick there with a a two yard run so Eagles great job on this possession establishing some momentum and Shifting the momentum of this crowd good snap good hold kick is up pushed a little bit to the right side but it is good so with all of that being said it takes that Mandy McGuire group scoreboard Colombia seven Murfreesboro zero with 328 in the first quarter we're gonna head to a break and we will be back with the kickoff and the Eagles on defense right after this welcome back ladies and gentlemen once again thank you to our sponsors you see them up on the screen right now without you we couldn't do anything so we ask our listeners go support our sponsors they support us we need to support them Eagles lead that Amanda McGuire group scoreboard 7-0 is vaguely Pooch kicks it to the right side from the 25 is where it's going to be caught by number two he's got himself a little bit of a run up the middle and he's going to be brought down by number 12 vaguely at the 44 yard line number two there I'll have to find his name a lot of speed Zach Nas I believe he was one of the captains tonight yeah he was defense has got to do a good job here of uh not getting comfortable and getting caught on their heels especially after a big drive like that I think we got to keep the momentum going here especially up front so we'll see what the Eagles defense has got in store Eagles are gonna have four down linemen tight end to the right said motion to the right side they're gonna hand it off and go right get behind the blockers Brennan wike's gonna be the first one there to make contact and it's going to be a gain of seven as a ball carrier fell forward and we've been right so far uh we came in we needed a a good stop on defense um and try to put a little pressure on them uh they got the home home game uh they got the higher seed or the better seed um so you're coming in kind of the underdog now so going up seven nothing early uh that gets that gets that sideline feeling pretty good about yourselves and put a little pressure on Murfreesboro 250 now in the first quarter motion man to the left side is Abernathy it's going to be a Pitch to him to the left side going wide Mason bagley's out there fights off a block and a big it is that hey Andrew he still gains four hearts in a first down but Peyton Andrews lowers the Boom I don't think four saw him coming at all that'll wake you up right there [Music] Murphy going in a huddle this time for the play caller have they been doing that the whole time and I just haven't paid attention split out man way out here to the right side balls on the left hash he's standing on the numbers to the right he's basically out of the play they're gonna run number four motion man again but they're gonna go up the middle this time Joe Kish and Schnabel are the two that I see on the pile but about three or four other eagles in on the tackle good gang tackle in there yeah and if you look down here on Murfreesboro sideline they got a couple of the I would guess that's the defense watching some film they got a TV pulled up um and they got the benches lined up so the the players can watch that last Drive of getting scored on under 140 now second and five from the 37.
Eagles four down lineman three linebackers are sending Man in Motion and they're gonna throw a penalty flag I hope that's an offsides ah it is an offsides I was hoping it wasn't offsides he was yeah he was showing a blitz he must have stepped across the line of scrimmage there that was close but might be another first down those are the type of plays that uh the Eagles really got to avoid tonight um shooting himself in the foot it's not really going to help him with the amount of athletes that Murfreesboro have out here so as long as they can stay disciplined I think we'll be in good shape so with the offsides it will be a First and Ten for the Red Devils they moved down vaguely up to a linebacker position Dalton rainwater and Mason vaguely will be doing the safety duties once again Eagles bringing Blitz to the left side and it's going to be caught and brought down immediately by Zach Wetzel and the ball goes incomplete good call there by this side judge over here and Zach Wetzel saw that right away and he's guarding flat there uh I think rainwater was behind him on this side who has deep quarter um and Zach Wessel just came up and laid the boom on that receiver I don't think he was ready for that hit coach Jermaine must have gotten the defenses here before this game about setting the tone and sending a message because that's two big hits that we have seen here early um that definitely have been shifting some momentum to our defense and we haven't really seen big hits like that all year and two corners yeah looks like we're gonna have man-to-man over here closest to us motion man number 17 they're gonna hand it off to him to the right side he's getting chased down by Dom vaguely who slips but still makes the tackle gain of maybe one yeah he did slip there and he was lucky enough to just grab him by the grab him by the shoelace and pull him down and then you got third and nine this is what you asked for their second and third and Longs we've been saying that all year um but anytime you can get in those second and third Longs uh makes a lot harder for that offense third and nine under 50 seconds in the first quarter just watch number four here in the slot yep four down lineman three linebackers number four is a motion man hard count nothing going you're gonna single them up over there now they got man-to-man Peyton Andrews versus Abernathy number four we've talked about him a lot averaging 15 yards of catch it's going to be a run good job forcing it back in however it's going to be a hard run and it's going to be close to a first down and it is going to be a first down for the Red Devils hard run there by the running back I think the offense caught the defense off guard there I know I wasn't expecting a run on Third and nine I definitely thought that ball was gonna find number four in some way so uh props to Murphy's bro they're on a good play call First and Ten and that could likely take us to the end of the quarter as we're under 15 seconds Murphy might try to run one more I don't know they're taking their time in the Huddle I don't think they're going to do anything as the Eagles are going to have four down linemen they're going to have tight end left and that's going to do it for the quarter as it strikes zero so quick good first half there for the eagles they did what they needed to do quarter yeah sorry quarter quick good job there by them they are going to go into the break leading the Red Devils 7-0 in this first round of the 4A playoffs in Murfreesboro we will be back right after this welcome back for the second quarter from Murfreesboro as the Eagles lead it seven to nothing First and Ten after the hard run first down motion man number four Abernathy they're gonna fake it to him they're gonna go up the middle on a quick pass there and it's going to be a good job by the Eagles staying home not much going on yeah me and Sam were just flipping through the uh Murfreesboro offensive stats number Four's only got nine catches on the season but they use him in that in jet motion almost almost every time um and they try to get him he he does that orbit motion where he goes behind the quarterback um so and they like to use that that little toss sweep to him so he doesn't catch the ball very much second and six gonna be a play action pass roll out to the left side they're looking in the corner of the end zone wide open is number 22 for a touchdown Murfreesboro [Music] that's just your typical lolia to sleep run run and over the top I think Mason vaguely was supposed to be to the defender and I didn't see if he got caught up or with what happened yeah I just think there's a little bit of a miscommunication between our safety and corner there on who was covering that guy deep but I think Coach G is going to get in their ear here on the defense to get that figured out for the next Drive good snap good holes and the kick is missed push to the right side Jared should we talk about Pats how important they are all year what was that last year or two years ago whenever I think we missed one like every game oh I don't remember that I think I think that was like a year or two ago whenever we literally we would we would score 40 something points but we'd miss an extra point well I'm hoping it wasn't about more than two years ago because that means it would have been me so or yeah the two of you went back to back on kicking Duty so that Mandy McGuire group scoreboard now reads Columbia seven Murfreesboro six with 11 20 on the game clock before the Century 21 halftime show and I mentioned we would be getting listened to from Florida and we just got the comment coming to you from Fort Myers Florida go Eagles Mrs Harris so I know she's listening every week I always get texts from her every time I pop back out to the games and if I get caught on the camera or on the broadcast a little bit I know she always sends me a text so we know you're watching out there so so we'll see what Harrisburg we got what Murphy's bro I don't know where I got Harrisburg from Murfreesboro so Jersey and it does the kickoff goes out of Bounds at the 23-yard line so the Eagles I believe will take over at the 35.
correct so it's different in like every every League no we'll see whenever the ball's placed I just take it at the 35. so Colombia we gave them a B plus on that first quarter is that what we decided on so the Eagles did what they wanted they kept the control of the clock got under the end zone had a good first drive there even though it was intercepted but like uh Sam said you know you like those chances on Third and two so we'll see what the Eagles offense does this time tight end right sniffer back right running back to the left side looks to be Janik they send him in motion they're gonna fake it to him vaguely he's gonna keep it himself go up the middle he's got a lead Blocker in Carter Hicks and he's got nine yards and that brings up a second and one good to see Carter lead blocking there and we need a lot we need a lot of that out of him uh filling those gold filling those holes and getting to those linebackers uh being that lead block for your running back uh that that's a big frame that's that you gotta step in front of I know uh he might not be the quickest one out there but um he takes up a lot of space doubles to the right side now for the Eagles split out by himself to the top is Wetzel empty backfield for vaguely it's going to be the same plague pretty much up the middle it's got a first cut it into Red Devil territory to the 41-yard line first down Eagles and Coach Warner sees something he likes over there on that left side running the same the same play um Dom not even faking the throw really uh but finding a lane out there on the outside picking up another Eagles first down we're gonna send rain water and Wetzel off [Music] I did not see who came on we've got wike and Cameron Yannick as running backs and there's another running back up there I can't see his number full backfield though for the Eagles I got a lot of guys out on the line of scrimmage yeah this is a new formation play clock under 10 seconds three down lineman three linebackers for the Red Devils that's gonna be a handoff to cam janick he gets in to that line of scrimmage and he's gonna gain three maybe four in a hard run there for Cameron you think that's just a trap play Sam I'm not really sure what it was I wasn't I wasn't paying too much attention to it but I'm sure they're just trying to get as much bodies to the point of attack as they can to give Dom in the running back an opportunity to make a play that extra running back back there was number 42 Brennan Jackson I mean typically a lineman for us earlier this year he's got the the ability to lower the stick and uh the truck stick the hit stick hit stick the Madden reference there sniffer back right is wike 9 30 on the game clock it's going to be pulled by vaguely he's going to bounce off two guys shifts his way around gets back to the line of scrimmage might have been once it might have been one you give it I don't know if he he read that at the end wrong but um looking over looking over on that left side he only had if he hands that off to Yannick he's only got one guy he really has to beat um Dom faked that there and had about two guys that he made Miss I think he got back to line of scrimmage now he got a good third and seven here um don't want to turn the ball over here you know Dom's got a good good leg I mean if you get five five six yards here and get the fourth and one you can you can try to kick a field goal I saw him pregame hit from 50 so I know that's pregame but maybe we'll give him a little more yards than that pass play looking deep he's got a post and it's gonna be off the hands of Abernathy very easily could have been intercepted intended for Wetzel number four I think I'm gonna punt yeah it would have been nice to pick up like like I said pick up six seven yards there to get it to a manageable fourth down if you want to go for it there on fourth and one or you could kick it but not getting any yards there almost intercepted would almost be like a punt looks like offense is staying out there we know Dom is our punter but looks like he's only gonna be five yards off the ball so it looks like eagles might try to go for it here trips to the left side 10 seconds on the play clock trip to the left side running back left I would assume there's going to be pressure and there is roll out to the left side vaguely's got to throw it he slings it good move by him as it goes incomplete but that's better than the sack at the 50.
still a tough play for the Eagles offense yeah he had Wetzel there for a second but just a lot of pressure in his face hard to make a throw um I'm surprised uh coach Horner decided to to go ahead and go for that on fourth down I know we've been talking a lot about uh working the clock and I think with that comes field position and I think it would have been very valuable to pin them deep and make them run out some more clock but I guess that's why he's getting paid and I'm up here in the booth so even if you punt it and it goes into the end zone you're still gonna gain 18 yards on it as the Red Devils start at their own 38 they're gonna hand it off right up the middle and it's gonna be Brendan Jackson there hanging on he got carried for about eight more yards it's a gain of eight but good job there by Brandon getting there in a hurry be nice to force force a turn over here waste some more clock um and I mean this year I don't think we've had a pick six or a scooping score all year and I want to know when the last time um that Columbia hasn't had at least one of those in a season um I bet it's I bet it's been a long time so gonna be second and two for the Red Devils under eight minutes now in the second quarter gonna be a play action roll out to the right side they're looking deep they got a man deep rain Waters there with Abernathy who's gonna make the catch and get brought down at the five yard line again of 40 yards rainwater was right there but just about a yard or two behind them and it's a big gain for Abernathy that was a good Ball by the Murfreesboro quarterback there giving his receiver a beautiful ball to catch and and now they got good possession sitting here on the five Annie went up in High Point in it so rainwater really had no chance um because he I don't even know if he knew the ball was coming to him so um now they got first and goal here Ben don't break gonna be a handoff to the running back he's gonna go to the left side keeps his feet moving and gets into the end zone Corey Red Devil touchdown [Applause] [Music] foreign so they're gonna go for two now with the missed Pat earlier Murfreesboro takes the lead on the big reception from Abernathy that gets him down to the five and a quick run gonna be a wildcat formation go to the outside force back in now they gotta chase from behind number 24 is trying to make something happen and he he gets in so the two-point conversion is good it's something I don't like you got two or three guys walking over there towards the sideline for the Eagles um I don't like that at all momentum is shifted now after that first drive where the Eagles got into the end zone but now two unanswered scores for the Rev Devils they take the Mandy McGuire group scoreboard 14-709 remaining in the first half and like I said momentum now back on this sideline in a full sideline as well yeah that's how it was uh right right whenever kickoff happened um you just gotta have a good drive here you got seven minutes left um and you you're on defense first um coming out of the half so this this could potentially be one of the biggest drives that we see tonight I mean you gotta at least get some points out of it um but we this is a huge drive for the Columbia offense we've got four guys back deep at the 25 last kick win out of bounds this one's going to be caught by Wetzel at the 14.
he's going to take his time try to watch an opening happen he does get that opening he gets to the 35 and a bunch of white jerseys pushing them up to the 38 which is where the offense will take over I like Colombia's taking some chances tonight we just need to connect on one and I think you might see coach Warner come out here and try to keep running the ball a little bit you've had some success in this first half with Yannick and of course number 12 back there but you never know first and 10 Eagles tight end left sniffer back right is wike Carter Hicks is your tight end to the left side pistol back his Yannick take the snap gonna take the hand off and he gets blown up right away loss of five and Logan Hicks there was in the backfield with the guy that he was supposed to be blocking who makes the tackle yeah first quarter up front looked a lot better than the second quarter does uh we probably have two or three guys on the offensive line every play that are getting pushed a yard or two backwards and you never want that as a as an offense um your run game cannot get going like that so uh front offensive line is gonna have to step it up a little bit here trips to the left side running back left I would imagine we're going to see a rollout to the left with vaguely he's gonna stay in the pocket he throws it right away too wike but it goes incomplete not a good ball there by Dom third and about 14 here the unfortunate thing not much time taking off the clock because there's now 6 18.
so we just said that we wanted to control the clock and not doing too well on that right now third down in long you think they're going to be bringing pressure here in the third and long we'll see if coach Warner wants to take a shot here or if he just wants to play it safe for field position field possession but we'll see uh what Don Vega can do same formation once again vaguely sticks in the pocket he has to step up getting chased from behind and he's gonna lose another four as he gets sacked [Music] Rings up a fourth down and 18. yeah just not much time there for uh Dom to do much with the ball Murfreesboro defensive line getting in the backfield pretty quick there I'm sure coach amson's it will be working with that offensive line to figure something out here for this next Drive coming up meanwhile Eagles defense needs to come up big here at the end of the second quarter and get another stop and go into half uh either 14-7 or maybe a little bit more than that if we can get fortunate enough to get some more points back on the board High snap brought down by vaguely and a sideways kick as it goes out of bounds we'll see where they Spot It at the Eagles 45.
that's a couple times tonight that we've seen Murfreesboro start out with some pretty good field position um and that definitely AIDS in there in their offensive drives so I think that's something else we gotta keep in mind I'm moving into this second half like you said earlier tonight cm2 you can't have those plays that are uh negative plays or penalties or anything like that and Eagles right now on their heels four down lineman three linebackers man-to-man with the defensive back Eagles are going to send motion to The Outsider pressure from the outside and it's going to be brought down by number 18. Mason vaguely and Logan Hicks on the tackle after a gain of four as you can hear the PA announcer give the tackle the number 10. tough jerseys to see numbers on it was a great job there though by uh Brandon wike to just force it back in um that's what you're taught to do as those outside linebackers Force everything back inside um so you have more white hats flowing to the ball under five minutes now in the second quarter Eagles Trail the first round matchup with the Red Devils 14-7 double so left side send in motion again it's just going to be a quick screen to number four down break down there by Mason vaguely and brought down by number 13.
Peyton Andrews but it's going to be another first down for the Red Devils yeah 436 here um if I'm if I'm Mercy Murfreesboro I'm trying to run as much clock as I can here and punching another one in before uh before halftime so you got to get it Columbia defense definitely has to step up here um and get a stop doubles to the right side tight end sniffer back on the left ball in the left hash they're gonna go to number four again and he's gonna drop it thankfully yeah that was forward the unfortunate thing there you watch that play rain water is guarding number four Abernathy he's starting at eight yards deep and then he's backpedaling right away on the snap so I mean he's got a 10 yard Advantage 10 yard cushion there yeah so that clock's stopped now at 409 second and ten ball at the Eagle 34-yard line trailing the Mandy McGuire group scoreboard 14-7 and that's a big play here on second and ten to get them in a third and long they're going to run it to the left side forced in Again by The Eagles Hicks makes it forced in Peyton Andrews and Mason vagley in on the tackle gain of five third and five yeah knowing that they missed that p-a-t earlier uh I mean I don't know if they'll kick it so like Sam said it's four down territory here if they don't get this he would you would imagine you can hear the Eagles sideline getting into it you hear the cowbells Eagles traveled pretty well tonight had the uh fan bus and they got some fans along the fence line we need them to get loud now gonna be a roll out to the right side with the quarterback he's got number four but he's looking deep into the end zone Wetzel in on the defense but it's gonna go incomplete off the hands of number 22 Grayson guthman and thankfully it goes off his hands because that would have been a touchdown for the Red Devils and that quarterback's doing some I mean some pretty balls I mean the only the only guy that could catch that there was that wide receiver he gave Zach Wetzel no chance great ball there yeah that looks like the second time tonight that they've they've ran that real rollout pass working a guy in the flats and then the deeper third part of the field I think as we go into halftime that might be something we see coach Jermaine trying to make an adjustment on on how his defense covers four watch the football gonna be doubles to the right side ball on the left hash four down lineman three linebackers Gonna Go reverse up the middle and it's gonna be good for sure I don't think they're gonna get it they're gonna Mark him short barrier it's Eagles football sure let's go D that's huge right there that is huge that yeah that's the biggest that could be the biggest play of the game so far the only unfortunate thing the three of us just got as excited as the 30 guys on the sideline that drives me absolutely no I know I think we've talked about it before Jared until the Eagles offense though we're done dwelling on that play it's a great play Murfreesboro needed six they got five turnover on Downs Eagles offense comes out all three timeouts 3 15.
ball at Their Own 25-yard Line would not be surprised to see coach Warner dig into this his back pocket here to to pull out a trick play maybe get some momentum gonna be a play action and tripped up for a loss of three once again vaguely was trying to get up the middle and he just got tripped up loss of three second 13 now under three minutes on the clock and Coach Warner hasn't really done that a lot this year he hasn't pulled a lot of trick plays out that uh he's kind of known for um yeah especially in week 10 whenever he hasn't showed it and no other coach has really uh heard of it or seen it so um he's definitely got something up his sleeve um and we'll we might we might see it here on second or third down looks like he might be calling a timeout here as he's right next to the official under five seconds on the play clock you got to get something going here on this drive and he does call a timeout with one second so 227 on the game clock Eagles Trail this one 14-7 we're gonna head to a break and we'll give you the rest of the first half before that Century 21 halftime show welcome back to Murfreesboro in the week 10 matchup Where The Red Devils and the Eagles are playing in the first round of the ihsa class 4A playoffs Columbia second and 13.
Eagles won the talk this one over over vaguely in the backfield by himself he's going to step up follow his lead block stretch it to the outside he's got the left side he's got a first down and he goes out of bounds smart play first down and stop in the clock you read my mind I was literally just about to say stop in the clock the biggest thing and I haven't used one of your timeouts or being kind of a hurry mode great awareness by number 12 there stop the clock First and Ten from their own 38 220 on the game clock Eagles getting the play call same formation once again tight end right sniffer back right motion man is Yannick fakes it to him they're gonna look they got the Deep ball and he's got Wetzel wide open wake a catch Wetzel now you gotta run he's at the 30.
he's getting chased down ten five end zone touchdown Eagles too long what a play call there wide open with Zach Wetzel great ball by vaguely almost went through the hands of Wetzel thank goodness and he gets in and just like that Eagles are back in Striking Distance I saw you could see Wetzel waving his hand in the air he kind of let Dom see him I think you're waving your hands great ball by Domino to set his feet on the run there and fly the ball down the field there was no Red Devil there probably 15 yards from him um basically walked into the end zone Eagles are about to tie this one up hopefully it all starts on the snap Wetzel for the hold vaguely for the kick low snap gets picked up and off great job for the Eagles low snap that skipped back there wetzel's able to handle it and vaguely is able to send it through the uprights that takes that Manny McGuire group scoreboard in the second quarter with 208 remaining Columbia 14 Murfreesboro 14.
