what a night so far from Zach Wetzel getting involved earlier here great that's a guy that is as quiet as can be you can not get him to say 30 words but just always in the right place at the right time I can remember when I was uh still around this neck of the woods Zach Wetzel has always been one of the hardest most quiet and humble workers that we had in our program and definitely paying off here in a big week 10 game it's good to see him have a lot of success out there look at some other 4A scores up at Chicago prep Bronzeville Co-op they're leading Chicago Sullivan 14-nothing Rochelle is leading Dixon 14-6 and nobody else has put up any scores nine games going tonight seven going on Saturday in the 4A bracket I know I'm gonna be standing by the end of this one Alex I was just about to say Jared loves these close Fun get after it playoff games I'll tell you what I came into this uh trying to find a chair to sit down but I'm not sure I'm gonna be finding one anymore I think I'll be standing for the rest of the game too so vaguely he's going to do the kicking duties as well oh we're kicking from the hash now look at that yeah we do a pooch every time we go from the hashes didn't work for us last time as Murfreesboro was able to get a pretty good return out of it so hopefully this time a little bit different as vaguely low kick that's gonna Skip and it bounces to the 10 where it's going to be picked up by number 24.
he's got a wall of blockers in front of him makes one man miss vagley's got to make the tackle at the 48. and that's not what you want for that Eagles defense there we see again Murfreesboro starting out with a great field position uh our cover coverage team needs to do a little bit better job of breaking down and making a tackle there and give them the ball back towards more like the 20 or 25 yard line they have all three timeouts correct Murphy's bro yeah I think so and I think well on kickoff this year I bet Dom has half the tackles on kickoff yeah because he just made that tackle there saving a touchdown so um anytime your kickers making tackles uh it's not very good but great field position here for Murfreesboro gonna try to punch one in with two minutes left eagles need to stop really bad right now yes Red Devils will get the football out of half and not what you want if you are the Red Devils they have to burn a time out little aggravation there you see out of the coach this is one of the programs that I look at and I would expect to have a lot of coaches because you know every other team we face has 10 15 coaches we have six these guys doing it all out here with six guys as well yeah and I'm I'm just in in all by I mean I know it's a playoff game week 10 but these these fans are fired up um I know all year I know it's regular season that for home at Columbia but um I know next year going into next year our fans need to be a lot better at home hopefully week 11.

side ball in the right hash running back left they're gonna fake it they're going to throw it to the left with Abernathy catching it he's to the five and brought down by Mason vagley and Peyton Andrews and time out on the field Red Devils you're going to be sending some blitzers here if you're Coach G Jared yeah I mean second and one you know they're probably gonna run the ball here uh they got one time out so if they don't get a touchdown uh that clock's gonna tick and offense is gonna have to get a play um on the field so I think you get if you get a stop here on second down uh they'll probably burn their last time out um but a minute left here there's still a lot of time in the second half our first half yeah I would not be surprised to see them maybe go back to that rollout package that they've been running tonight um if even if they get stopped here on second down on a third and short where you know maybe the defense is looking to stuff the middle and not not let that run get that extra yard they might come out and and sling it like they've been trying so we'll see defense has got to come up big so would you bring your animals on a blitz to keep them contained or no uh I think it depends if they send some sort of motion I think we got to keep an eye on that and just make sure that they don't get outside of our guys or we can force it back in and rally and make four yards yeah and you can get on the ball in order to get in a pass play off and then they're loading the left side and they're gonna run it with a wildcat and it's going to be stopped by the Eagles come on pushed back by the Eagles defensive line on a huge stop yep under 30 seconds a lot of movement here for the Murfreesboro offense they're trying to get set I'm under 20 seconds now in the game Run the same formation to the right side they're gonna do that pitch up the middle and it's going to be a good hard run and a touchdown for the Red Devils [Music] they just did the shuffle pass right and the Eagles will be receiving the kick before halftime and they will be kicking off to start the third quarter that's a heartbreaker there yeah if you can go in tied 14-14 or like you said even 17-14 yeah and you're only down one you're you can still move the ball we've shown that tonight so and we've I mean we've kind of stopped we they haven't had too many big plays it's just giving them field position great field position and then them just getting to third down and then picking up first down so um in the second half I think you just need to really get them into some some tough situations not very good uh field position and you got to take advantage of that um and try to get some stops on third and fourth down so Murphy will be kicking deep 13 seconds to go they're kicking from the left hash a little bit of a pooch kick and gonna be caught I think that's rainwater he makes the catch gets to the right side gets to the 26 yard line where he is slung out of bounds with seven seconds are you gonna try to do Virginia or are you just gonna need it I think you gotta need out here especially with the athletes that they have I know we saw earlier in that first possession uh their number four almost take that that interception back so I don't I think I would imagine coach Horner and Coach Jermaine want to avoid all uh returns here they might just take a knee and go into half and only being down to score I mean walking in you're probably already down to score with this fan section uh makes it a lot harder to hear the play calls and um vaguely is going to run it himself to the left side he's got a bunch of blockers in front of him he's got a first down he's got one second on the play clock and that's where it's gonna run out so it's a gain of 14.
but the clock expires and we go into the Century 21 halftime show with the Eagles trailing this one 21-14 we are going to run to a break and when we come back to the Century 21 halftime show we'll momentum but I think coach Jermaine's gonna really uh talk to that defense here at halftime and make some adjustments to get a stop and the offensive side of the football I thought we did pretty well we were moving the ball we took a couple chances which we haven't done too much this year um so just got to keep going with those chances as well yeah I think we do I think it's got to keep getting Dom uh looks on the outside I think we succeed when when he's running the outside uses his vision um I also think that up front we're doing a pretty good job um we could be doing better I think but I think we're we're doing a pretty good job of making some blocks so I think if we can just get a little bit better in that department we'll uh we'll see some success here in the second half well you look at our score 21-14 at halftime some other 4A scores Chicago Urban Brownsville prep Co-op 14 nothing over Chicago Sullivan and Rochelle and Dixon are now in the halftime 22-20 in the 4A bracket we'll see if we can find some more 5A I think we got a couple of schools from around us um it helps if you hit the right button though if you're wanting to look up scores Highland on top at halftime 43-0 over Dunlap that's a 5A score and we'll go down to 3A Byron 42-nothing over Lyle some blowouts 42-nothing Elmhurst IC Catholic 42-nothing over Chicago King and that is with 11 minutes to go in the second quarter so uh goodness at least we're in a good game here yeah Eagles now we have our uh first couple guys the kickers and the long Snappers coming out on the field led by coach amsden making his way out first um walk down by the locker room doesn't really seem like there was too much going on in there I could hear coach owner making a couple adjustments and uh one adjustment I think I would like to see is the attacking of the bubbles and those little Slants in what we would call a snag route I don't know what they're called anymore when in our terms it was a snag seems to be a little bit of an opening there with those outside backers and our receivers yeah and the only time the quarterbacks ever really threw the ball down field is when he's rolling out I think on two or three of those times these rolled out he's found his receivers deep um everything else when he stays in the pocket he's just getting that thing away quick and just throwing those simple bubble routes and um those screen routes um but I mean tonight you've seen our corners and safeties come up and make make some tackles uh which is huge you saw wet saw well you didn't see what you heard us talking about it um but you had a Wetzel uh with a big big hit and then Peyton Andrews had a big hit as well so uh like Sam said earlier Coach G had this defense ready for tonight uh but down seven but can't give up now biggest Drive of the game I think I mean we we said it was going to be a really big drive going into halftime we know he needed that stop nearly got it um I like what we're doing now your new biggest Drive is going to be this first two drives it's gonna be you have to get a stop and you have to put a drive together I'm not saying you got to get in the end zone but you at least got to get yourself a little bit of confidence a three and out say we would get to stop here and then go three and out that's not doing too good for the confidence nope I think we definitely got to come out here and set the tone into the second half and uh get some energy going on that sideline so our guys can feed off of it and make some plays I know a couple times in the first half when we we scored it really sucked the life out of this crowd here at Murfreesboro so I think if we can execute some plays and get in the end zone one more time we might see some momentum shift back to us again just under two minutes now in the Century 21 halftime show before they add three more minutes on for the warm-up I don't understand why they just don't say 18 right I know I don't understand it either yeah hi HSA they have their their way of doing things looks to be like the rest of the Eagles are making their way out onto the field and Jared if you've got one player that you want to see something happen who do you think you're going to be looking at in the second half um can I say two of them you can say as many as you want um I think on the defensive side of the ball uh we need to see Logan Hicks make a couple more big plays and I know he's a sophomore playing in a really big game um and he's leading the team in tackles this year so um we need him to come up and light somebody up maybe forced to fumble and on the offensive side of the ball I want to see cam janick or or Bryant whatever running backs back there um the old lines just got got to give him some some more room to work give him some more Lanes so I want to see both of those running backs try to run really hard and free up some space for Dom too so Sam after the Century 21 halftime show who are you going to be looking for I'm going to kind of go similar route here with Jared except I'm gonna go with the other Hicks brother Carter I think uh if Carter can establish his ground on the line there and I mean he's a big kid very strong I think that if you he can set the tone up front and make some tackles in the backfield and help this defense shift the momentum that the Eagles will be sitting in a pretty good spot and I'm going to look at the defense Jared has said it a couple times this year he's asked for a scooping score of pick six man I'll just take a pick I mean just a fumble recovery something to get a little momentum on your side um and if you can get a pick six take it to the house I mean I'm not gonna I'm not gonna fault you for doing that so just like to see something happen to uh get get some excitement like I said Columbia traveled very well tonight on that sideline over there we got a good amount of people in the bleachers and like Columbia fashion we got everybody along the fence as well but uh you look at this Murfreesboro sideline obviously it's a home game they've got this place packed up too so coming into this one um at halftime being 21 14 pretty good half for the Eagles and for some coaches around here that have games tomorrow I bet there's a couple I mean because it's only a two-hour radius of uh almost the St Louis area so I bet there's a lot of teams a lot of coaches here to tonight watching this one knowing that it's one of the only games in the area being played tonight so um eagles need to come out here um and try to get a stop on this uh second half to start the second half off and see what we can do from there we're looking at the map right now of the travel and really nobody's got that far of a drive on uh that we can see right now other than yeah Co in Carterville that's a big drive there but you look at you know Waterloo going to only that's going across the state do you think they have anything kind of I mean no school it's a Saturday it's a playoff game but um do you think that is going to be a factor in anything well I think a long bus ride um always has a little bit of an impact I mean I remember my sophomore year we traveled all the way up to hersher which was like about a four hour drive I mean it didn't help it was like again five degrees but um and even last year when we went or not last year my senior year when we went to up to Fairbury um in that two and a half hour bus ride I know those bus rides can kind of just suck some energy out of you so it's important to to make sure that you're coming coming out with that momentum and that drive to you know keep the energy flowing 151 in the Century 21 halftime show and you look we didn't have school today we've talked about that before if we have a half day if we don't have any school that has affected us and tonight I don't think it's affected us as much as it lasts now like Sam just said uh I mean coming out like with those with those bus rides it can be hard to get things going and I mean in that first quarter I think we looked we looked pretty darn good so um we know that Murfreesboro in the second half they're going to be loud again their fans are going to get into it um because I mean they got a couple seniors on their roster as well that could be playing their last game as well so um you want to look to the seniors and on that Columbia side and hopefully a couple more of them can step up and we can escape out of here with a W talk to Howie napped the statistician for the Eagles for many many years asking him I said has coach Warner ever had an upset in the first round he goes I don't think he's ever had an upset he's been upset but never had one himself and tonight could be an upset 11 seeded Eagles succeeded Murfreesboro so that's something to look forward to yeah definitely different uh outlook for these coaches being on that flip side as the underdog I know they've had a lot of success here at Columbia hosting a lot of this is the 25th time that the Eagles have made the playoffs 12th in a row Murfreesboro also has a losing record in the playoffs they're trying to get better at that gonna be a reverse again this time to the right side Eagles sniff it out and it's going to be brought back great job by the Eagles defense picking the runner up gonna be a gain of three brings up a third and two maybe one and they gave him some forward progress there he got tackled about two yards short of where they marked it but um he got to the line another test here for the Eagles defense a third and short uh let's see if we can get a stop and get the ball back and ship some some momentum here this would be a punting situation if it is fourth down you would have to watch football they could go for it you never know but the eagles need to get a stop on Third and one four down lineman motion man's number 11.

Vega Eagles taking their time getting to play call in trips to the right side now ball at their own 48-yard line ball on the left hash trips right running back right is Bryant they send a Blitzer again gonna be a high throw this time wike unable to catch it I think that was one of the adjustments coach Kendall was saying they were going to make tonight at halftime whenever they have trips they send a Blitzer pretty much every time so look out for that bubble that's two plays in a row we threw the bubble and Dom's pretty good at Wrecking recognizing whenever uh Blitz is coming um he's been starting to see as a sophomore so he's been able to pick that up over his career um and use his feet if he feels any pressure and he has a great arm and he can throw him all the way down field to bail him out sometimes too tight end now for the Eagles sniffer back to the right side it's a play action bootleg he's got like he throws it to him he's got himself five yards stiff arms one man gets another couple and it's gonna be a third and three good job after the catch four wike and that's all you want there on second down you don't you don't have to pick up the first down there you just want to get it to a manageable third down um you have a lot more plays on Third and three than you do uh third and ten so um this this is a big play here for Colombia I'd venture to say that we're kind of just turned back around towards Dom maybe Dom saw something on third down there oh they're going to give us the first down clock kept moving and now it's there was a tough one there like they never stopped the clock so I think the officials I don't think really knew what was going on so Eagles now get the first down a couple questionable calls tonight but gotta be looking towards the end little bit more confidence you still might think what are you doing but you have a little bit more confidence in it and rolling out to his left there he's got to turn his shoulders all the way back around force that ball down field um to Wetzel there so great great pick up there for another first down tight end left sniffer back right faking the handoff gonna be vaguely keeping it himself botched play though I think and it goes out of bounds I'm not really sure what happened on that and it's gonna go incomplete I don't know what happened there it almost on that wide receiver over there yeah because Dom looked like he wanted the pass there but there was no receivers that really went out for a pass nope so 10 11 now in the fourth quarter Eagles Trail it 35-21 come on empty backfield this time vaguely is just going to run to the right side by himself he gets a great block he's got a first down and he's inside the 20-yard line good job Brennan wike move those chains again he gets slung to the ground but he gave vaguely just enough of a hole to get a first down keep those chains moving for the Eagles oh offensive line playing a lot better on this drive giving him just enough time to get to that hole or make make those throws yeah I think the Eagles offense didn't just keep up this Tempo a little bit they got murphysboro's defense scrambling and talking and kind of confused on who's Garden who and what their assignments are same formation no blocking by the offensive line vaguely just has to fall down when he gets a snap loss of four there was Zero blocking out of the front five there and I think they were running the same play there oh no on offense I think Dom was just gonna go to the right side again so now you're stuck with a second and almost 15 now uh not a lot of plays that you have on that but uh now you have to get it to a manageable third down again get it to a good third and seven third and eight um just enough that you're in uh four down territory where you can go for it on board trips left Bunch running back goes out for a pass it's Bryant he catches it only gains three third down and 12.
