Clemens on the year comes into tonight's game 1391 rushing yards in his career 3260 rushing yards he's had 55 rushing touchdowns in his career and this year had 24 so worth the price of admission yeah averaging almost seven and a half yards in his career so I mean anytime you can get seven and a half yards per carry uh yeah you're gonna be getting the ball a lot more and then you look at the receivers in their career um one of them 21 yards per catch the other one 15 yards per catch so every catch they're making is giving you a first down basically so anytime you have a three-headed monster like that on your offense it's gonna be pretty hard to stop um in that first half I think we we covered pretty well but um that running backs got us on our heels now so Columbia need a miracle now in Murfreesboro to advance in the ihsa playoffs they're going to kick it deep gonna be caught by number three I believe is Wetzel he's gonna get to the 25 and nothing going after that he keeps his feet moving gets to the 31.

but it's been a pretty slow kick return for the Eagles all night not much going for him and some you don't want to see here is uh well something you want to see here is your seniors giving it everything everything they can you don't want to see them walking around and being lousy this could be your last game ever so for some of these guys been playing for 12 13 years um goes pretty fast and it all comes down to this game um and you don't realize it until I mean look at look at yeah me and me Sam and Alex yeah we've all been through it so running back to the left egley's Gonna Roll out now he's going to set up throws it to Wetzel who's got that snag he's got a first down and he's going to be brought down at the 48 got to get up to the line of scrimmage if you're the Eagles and you look at the offense they're all walking they're walking yeah yeah and you that's something I didn't want to see um no one I mean you're only down you're down three scores um all it takes is a quick score onside kick score I mean you never know though I mean a lot of turnovers but gonna be the same play again Wetzel is got the middle of the field vaguely finds him he's at the 30.

he's gonna turn on the Jets get brought down at the 22 get up to the line of scrimmage that's all it takes couple big plays and couple turnovers great job he ran the same play but as vaguely rolled to the right ran with him went with him yeah great place yeah what you're taught to do um as a receiver if you see your quarterback leaving that pocket um you don't want to run away from him you want to run to him make it easier for your quarterback and that's what Wetzel did there a great connection there from vaguely to Wetzel 650 now on the play clock doubles to the left side and doubles all the way around running back to the left side of vaguely gonna be a pass he's looking to the end zone it's kind of out of bounds intended for a wike was that that caught that I think my Matt caught that ball on the sideline I don't think he had an option it was here catch it or be caught that was a rocket though good thing he's paying attention I think he just put his hands up to protect him snag that thing so it stops the clock gives the Eagles a chance to regroup a little bit get the play call in that they want and not be so hurried doubles once again ball on the right hash vaguely directing traffic with the linemen moving Cameron Yannick is running back to the left side they're going to look to the end zone he's got rain water in the end zone and it's incomplete looks like he had Wetzel in the end zone two from the left side yeah both of them ball a little a little bit behind rainwater there made it kind of tough on them to reach reach back and make a good catch but um third and ten now uh definitely in four down territory again um and this is coming to be your last shot of the game if you don't get in the end zone here that game's over so um you got you gotta at least get some points out of this winner of this game will host either Macomb or Quincy Notre Dame trips to the left side running back left vagley's looking deep he's got Wetzel across the middle inside the 10-yard line first down Columbia have a night kid he might have this might be his his best game if he's played in his career on offense and defensive side first and goal from the Eagles eight yard line now rain water comes off Nick Janet comes off yeah Carter Hicks Brennan Jackson come on you know we need that big body to get in the end zone here that'd be that'd be nice we got a power set to the right side four vaguely the quarterback gonna send a motion man and it's gonna be fumbled and I believe it's going to be recovered by the Red Devils and it is [Applause] I don't know if he snapped it the motion might have thrown that all off and it's fumbled on the handoff 607 on the clock recovery first down red door that might have been the icing right there for the Red Devils you know Dom's probably kicking himself there for that one he's been so good all year um but can't fault him always so it's just you know coming down to the the offense just just working trying to get in the end zone there we'll see what the defense can do maybe get a turnover and get that first pick six we've been talking about maybe give us the last sliver of Hope here before this game's over you look at coach Warner instantly goes down to coach James and does he gets the iPad and see what happened and it looked like coach Amazon was motioning like on the handoff it was fumbled number three he's gonna run the jet motion to the outside to the left side and he's going to be brought down no nearly brought down by Mason vaguely gonna be brought down by about four Eagles and I look like Dom Eagles Trail it 41-21 in the first round of the ihsa playoffs 5 50.

if the Eagles are able to get a victory somehow here they will be hosting next week I believe Murphy would be hosting no matter what as well [Music] Murphy would have to go on the road if McComb wins 5 25 on the game clock single running back is Clemens they hand it off to him he gets to the outside runs out of a block but brought down by three other eagles led by Schnabel and Mason vaguely Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin and the ihsa score zone shg 55-6 Victory Evergreen Park 48-nothing Rochelle and Dixon are tied 36-36 jca 29-6 over Chicago Phillips at half and Chicago Co-op Urban prep 26 to 6 over Chicago Sullivan no scores for Richmond Burton new Linux Providence Catholic or Morango doubles to the right side third and three motion man number three they fake it to him they go with Clemens he's going to get near the 20 and it's going to be a stop on the play great job by the Eagles defense and the Eagles are going to call a timeout and try to make something happen here as they force a punt yeah if you're Murphy's bro you have to punt right yeah you almost have to you don't want to give them the ball inside the 20 yard line there fourth and two from the 20.

good job by the defense getting a stop there and forcing a three and out should just spend that all night that fuel positioning is literally what's been killing us all night them getting the ball at the 40-yard line and us having to travel the whole length of the field to score so um I mean that's that's really been the story of tonight's game [Music] Coach G You're Gonna Go Blue Block here yeah Sam says you have to Jared yeah I mean what else do you have to lose uh they're not gonna they're not really gonna do anything else um but punt it so um I wouldn't send anybody back I try to block the pun here um scoop and score even then you got the ball inside the 20-yard line get a quick score and a couple on side kicks um um I mean you never know you never know goodness that can happen gonna send vaguely back to receive the punt obviously already returned one of them he returned that Roxanna punt that helped us get the victory now they're moving I I had a feeling fourth down and two from the 20.

they're actually gonna go for it here motion man Abernathy what do you mean a whoa set up doubles to the left side five seconds motion man again nothing going yeah nothing I'm going time out time out Murfreesboro yeah they were just trying to make us jump off sides there and try to pick up an easy first down but all year I mean on that uh we haven't I don't think we've jumped off sides one time all year uh they got us for one tonight barely yeah barely yeah and I think whenever we do it I think almost every game we had people jumping off sides picking up first down so um great job doing that all year [Music] so now do you still go for it if you're in Murfreesboro maybe you're working on something for next week you know you're you're on a fourth and two you need it I think I think you put it away here there's I mean A lot's got to happen for the Eagles to even go down by two or down by one score so um yeah three touchdown game right now so um you really need a a big play here upon return um or score on that first play on the offensive side or even a black punt here so looks like they are going to punt it motion man comes to the right side rugby style kick to the right gonna be bounced at the 42 and vaguely lets it fall and it goes back to the Eagles 35-yard line so the offense takes over four minutes 10 seconds to go in the fourth quarter Eagles Trail at 41-21 foreign World Series tied five five we got close games all over the place tonight Cameron Janet comes on trips to the right side for the Eagles janik's gonna be the running back to the right side of vaguely number three on trips has been a Blitzer all night he's showing Blitz right now he sits back in coverage though Begley's got to tuck it he steps up in the pocket short arms it out of bounds and nearly caught by Nick janick would have been out of bounds but a good effort thank you I think the Red Devils have noticed now though that every time that they send a blitzing guy and number three it leaves that flat open so that time he sat in the flat and anytime it gets to this point you start thinking about all your seniors and with only four minutes left here some of those guys have been playing for 12 13 years like I said earlier in some of them only playing for one year trips to the right side running back right gonna fake the bubble and it's gonna be caught by Wetzel again he's got the 50-yard line gotta get up to the line of scrimmage First and Ten as Eagles get into Red Devil territory and as you look at all those linemen again they're just walk no sense of urgency walk into the line of scrimmage [Music] yeah what what's all tonight might have I'd say the most catches he's had in the game I bet he's up to the seven or eight mark for definitely over 100 yards looks like we're gonna come out an empty set trips to the left doubles to the right 337 on the game clock everyone to the line of scrimmage for Murfreesboro High snap brought down by vaguely he's gonna check it down to the hitch and it's gonna be a gain of five good catch there by Dalton rainwater and he's really stepping up tonight too he's made a couple good plays on the defensive side of the ball and stepping up a wide receiver I know uh vaguely wetzel's definitely been his favorite Target along with wike but adding rainwater tonight and he's had a couple good catches um and he's a good possession guy anytime you throw it to him he can he's going to give you his best effort to try to make a play but he's most likely going to catch the ball trips to the left side this time running back to the right trips left bunch gonna be just a quick plant and off the hands of Wetzel he had nobody in front of him penalty flag on the play that was that was pretty routes there that was almost perfect timing um by Mason vaguely uh Zach Wetzel and Brandon white in that trip set they all almost broke at the same spot but they all went different ways it looks like one of our players officials talking it over white hat coming towards us to make the call personal foul helmet to helmet on the defense far outside still down over on the side over there not sure what the number is Bryant comes on as a running back for the Eagles so Eagles are going to have doubles this time ball in the right hash 247 on the game clock Eagles trailer 41-21 vaguely he's looking to the left side right away he's going to have to scramble now to the right he just throws it away and it's going to go incomplete stops the clock but he is out of the pocket so no intentional grounding looks like that's Cam janick over there on the ground if I'm not mistaken for the Eagles good game by the Eagles so far tonight still not giving up foreign ball at the Murfreesboro with 30 yard line trips to the left side wike Nick janick and Wetzel motion man is Brian they look deep rain water they sling it out to him and it's incomplete yeah it was roughing the passer that never happened and then in past interference down at the end that we'll take and obviously fans aren't going to be too happy about that call if you're Murfreesboro but I mean with 230 left here in this one so that's going to be an automatic first down for the eagles they will have the ball at the 15-yard line see the white hat talking to Dom vaguely now I guess explaining why it wasn't a roughing the passer ball at the 15.

yard line sending Hudson Bryant off number 15 Hayden hoppermill coming on trips to the left side empty backfield doubles to the right ball at the right hash under five seconds on the play clock vaguely gets it off he's looking to the left he's looking to the end zone he tucks it down now he's got to scramble throws it to the corner and it's incomplete out of the reach of Nick Janik so brings up a second and ten now 21-41 226 on the clock Eagles trying to get into the end zone and the Eagles overall they've played a decent game tonight I mean we've responded most of the time that they've scored um but I mean like we've been saying all game um it's just been deal position I mean we're giving them the ball at Midfield I mean it's been pretty we've made it pretty easy for them to just March down the field and score when they only have to go half half the length of the field doubles running back to the right side is Cameron Jan extending pressure Begley steps back he slings it across the middle and it goes incomplete that safety there read that one like a book yeah should have been intercepted should have been intercepted so third and ten now from the 15.

now that I think about it I know we were talking about it a couple weeks ago but do you think Dom threw for over 200 tonight because uh you need it for that thousand thousand I bet he I bet he's close he's gotta be and last week getting he got 50. so yeah he's yeah he's he's got it very close man doubles same formation once again they're gonna look to the end zone fires it to the end zone and it's a touchdown Brandon wike beautiful ball by Dominic vaguely beautiful catch this is this is the best I've seen him throw the ball in his career I'm I don't think I've ever seen him throw um with this type of accuracy with that type of power yeah and credit to the wide receivers too making some heck of a catches tonight you know Zach Wetzel having probably the night of his his career uh tonight and Brandon wike with another touchdown yeah another touchdown catch here and even after that one he had earlier in the game where he went up in High Point of that football so that's some good good production out of our receivers tonight and that ball there by vaguely is a perfect ball the only spot he can throw that as he goes on for the p-a-t now good snap good hold kick is up and it is good but so that takes the meaning McGuire group scoreboard Columbia 28 Murfreesboro you never know 41.

2 15 on the clock but that ball right there vaguely the only place he could throw it that his receiver had a chance was blowing away and that is where it was and wike went down like you said Sam made a perfect perfect grab yeah he's point he's a spot in the corner of that Strike Zone just like he does in in baseball so you see those skills transfer over from a guy like Dom it's pretty impressive so the Eagles now I would imagine are going to go for the uh onside kick nearly had one to start the second half and I guess if you look at that like we said earlier if it works it's a great call if it doesn't work it's a questionable call but that's a call that you had to do I think yep I I agree I think we had to try to get the ball back in our hands um you know to pick up some momentum we'll see what we can do here though I know every Thursday coach Kendall is working with their kickers which would be dime here to work on those onside kicks and and everything so we'll see what what he's able to pull out here that last onset kick that he attempted did not bounce high it stayed low to the ground and luckily they had that I'm gonna call him an offensive lineman or look like an offensive lineman did you guys just see that they tried there's a hurt Red Devil down right now and they tried getting them up and they just fell straight back on his back looks like they're going for cramps yeah and most likely uh Murfreesboro definitely have the reds or their hands team out on this one unlike they did uh to come out for the second half because they had a bunch of linemen on that front line so now they're gonna have a bunch of wide receivers and skills kits um to receive this ball and try to put this one away once again we would like to thank Murfreesboro for the great Hospitality they had food up here we got a little bit of a fridge in front of us here great facility great complex up here and we talked to their athletic director and he said there's more plans in the future to continue making the uh complex out here even better so be exciting to come back here in the future yeah for sure especially for the Murfreesboro Community you know this stuff brings out everyone you know for a Friday night game especially in week 10 for the playoffs so you know if they can get some of those amenities up and going in the next couple years I think that'll really you know continue the culture that they got here in Murfreesboro so Murfreesboro is coming off the 2019 State runner-up I believe they got beat by Richmond Burton as good as mine I think that's what it was so got a little bit of tradition going on here in Columbia we go by courage tradition and Champion so yep gonna try to make something happen here Eagles are going to have to do an onside kick vaguely steps up now gonna kick it to his right side he gets a big hop and it hops right into the Murfreesboro arms where it is going to be Murfreesboro football at their 46-yard line with 214 remaining in the game we do have all timeouts need a fumbled snap or hand off or something [Music] quarterback number seven Drew Caldwell coming in tonight 60 completion ratio for 1300 yards had a pretty good night in the air obviously [Music] Devon Clemens has had the great night the running back number 24 coming in with almost 1400 yards rushing Tim I'd be surprised to see the ball to go to go to anyone but him right here yep and go up the middle I would imagine doubles to the left side sniffer back right hand off to Clemens up the Middle East feels great patience and now that explosive speed spins around and he gains 13.

great run by Clemons yeah Columbia defense kind of just looking like they're in on their heels here with uh as we're approaching two minutes in the fourth quarter um just just kind of catching guys as they're getting to him but Clements 158 rushes two fumbles on here love that too yeah we need that Brandon white goes off the senior as Cameron Janet comes on so now you might see a couple seniors making their way off as there's a minute 45 Eagles trailing this one 41-28 going up to the line of scrimmage now is the Red Devils one second on the play clock they get it off they're running to the right side with Clemens he's got to stay in bounds and he does he gets the first down keeps the chains moving and keeps that clock moving as well another first down for the Red Devils minute 20 and they might be able to just knee this one out man [Music] they're gonna take their time and I would imagine that's all they're gonna do so with that being said Ben Scott Carter Hicks Zach Wetzel Nick Janik Dominic vagley Hayden hoppermill Brennan wike Aiden Gaither Cody Tudor Mason Schnabel and Tom kenningstein the seniors this year as they're gonna run good job Mason vaguely making the tackle on the play for zero yards good contact there by Mason so we named those 10 seniors who are going to play their last game here at Columbia they came in with a tradition that they had to uphold and I think they did a good job getting to the playoffs once again they're going to finish this year at six and four and for those seniors you know you play your whole life some of those guys for 12 years only one team gets to celebrate in week 14 and that's not going to be us this year yeah unfortunately not but uh these seniors have had a lot of heart this year uh you know coming out like you said six and three I'm not sure a lot of people expected that kind of record from the Eagles this year but I think it kind of just defines what kind of team these guys are and what kind of guys they are um you know never forget never you know count themselves out of games and and just fight until the end give themselves a shot so the Red Devils take a delay game on the play and there's five seconds on the game clock now as the teams are making their way to the 50-yard line so when you look at the senior group like I said they continue the tradition they played a heck of a game here tonight um just field position is what got us tonight I mean we've said that multiple times already and whenever it boils down to it name of the game so Credit Credit Murphysboro they played themselves a heck of a game as you see Zach Wetzel come off the field and we have said his name a ton as he gets a hug from Coach G over there well much deserved too what a night from him so that'll do it for this week 10 matchup in the first round of the ihsa class 4A playoffs Murfreesboro leads and wins it 41-28 Columbia played themselves a heck of a game we will run to a break and we will come back wrap up tonight's game wrap up the season and we will do all of that when we come back to Murfreesboro right after this welcome back to Murfreesboro where the Eagles lose this one and end their season six and four they lose this one 41-28 on a great game Jared your thoughts on the game I think overall uh that first quarter we couldn't have come out and played any better anytime they scored we had an answer um and we it was it was Loki a dog fight in that in that first half um it was coming down to whoever has the ball ass is probably going to win this game um but what it really came down to was like you said um just giving them great field position on almost every time they had the ball um early whenever Dom had that punt maybe went out at Midfield um almost we had a kickoff that went out of bounds um and they had a lot of run backs with Don vaguely being your tackler on the kickoff team um you can't really have that but I think overall uh it was it was just it was a fun game to watch kept us on our toes a lot but sad to lose sadaluzzo seniors but um like you said there's only one winner at the end of all this yeah and it's just a great fight by The Eagles I was talking to coach uh Horner and Coach Jermaine before the game and one comment that they made was you know if we can keep them to 28 points I think we can give ourselves a shot and that's right around what we scored so you know I think I think coming in we had the right mindset but sometimes you just gotta tip your cap to the other team when when they got athletes and and they just make plays and their coaches make good calls so um you know I can't really fault the Eagles much here for this loss um they played really hard and fought until the end but you know sometimes you just got to give credit when credit's due and that's the the main way to break it down I mean that's all you can do at this point of the game so uh Eagles end their season six and four another good year 12 times to the playoffs in a row for the CHS Eagles um a thank you to to everybody I'm gonna name a few I'm sure I'm gonna leave some people out though um but thank you to the guys on the Chain Gang you guys have been doing it they said I think 20 or 25 years something like that um and that's somebody when you talk to coach Warner um hey who's on your chain gang he knows who's on the Chain Gang and he knows he doesn't have to worry about it so Alfie longer off Mike's duckmaster Brett Stefano or Kenny Matthews and mixtech master credit to y'all you guys great job Horner even says he goes there might be times I look over and I don't know I don't recognize one of the guys on the sideline but I know it's taken care of uh the herdika family with Summit signs they were able to get some new signs out that looked awesome and had those out every week so thank you for the donations and helping with that grounded greetings for our homecoming and senior night signs as well team meals were provided or donated by Corey Pharmacy sons of the American Legion Joe bacardi's tinies Tequilas Chick-fil-A washi's Pub and Emos I tried to keep up on all of that so if I forgot somebody like I said sorry Press Box screw Taylor Nickerson he helps us get all of this stuff going he's he's taught us along the way on how to do this stuff so when we're at home games he is a Madman back there changing camera angles around talking to the students that are with him helping and keeping us going as well so stay behind the screen yeah you never you never see him I got a couple pictures of them that are pretty cool with his big setup Patrick Oglesby Mike colenberger thank you for doing the PA this year for the first time Matt vaguely Mark Jackson and Kyle rainbow are their spotters and our filmers who are up for the team Mark Becker and TJ wike they go up no questions asked the two of them have been around for 10 weeks this year TJ did it years past thank you for all you guys do getting those angles and being somebody that coach Warner can lean on to to get that film yep you really can't say thank you enough you know because it's it's really about creating this experience for these kids and you know everybody's putting their part in to help uplift that experience for these kids uh you know that they'll never forget so thank you to everyone who you know helps out and had a contribution so and thank you guys for letting me join you tonight I appreciate it thanks for joining us hopefully yes in the future yeah I might be back up here with y'all so you're just gonna have to make some weekend trips home from the zoo and you're gonna have to come in and do some games with us here and there short two-hour drive we'll be good yeah you'll be all right it's not a boring ride at all just a straight level nothing going on yeah thank you to the rest of our sponsors you see them up on the screen they support us we ask that you support them uh the aces wild pregame show they are doing their queen of hearts that all right we're going to call the meeting to order we're going to start with our Creighton School District the land acknowledgment Creighton School District understands that our community of schools is located on the ancestral land of the hotelumjoid and akimo odam people who descended from the hohokum and have inhabited these lands since time immemorial the Odom whose names translate literally to people are a vibrant culture and Community spanning countless of generations into past continuing to thrive in the present and carrying a powerful Legacy for Generations into the future with this acknowledgment the Creighton School District formally recognizes that the traditional care and keeping of these lands by indigenous people as an Inspire aspirational model of community stewardship that we are committed to honor with practices policy and human relations and that leads us to our Pledge of Allegiance Mr Dubin can you please lead us in that foreign call we have Miss Ayers to myself and Miss Michaela present we're down two people today we want to welcome everyone to tonight's meeting and remind the audience of the request to address board cards that must be completed and submitted to the board secretary if they wish to speak to an agenda item board policy provides for two cards why cards to be submitted in order to speak to an agenda item and a blue card to be submitted in order to speak during public comments due to the open meeting law board members are not allowed to address items that are not on the agenda and that's per policy b-e-d-h I move the governing board approved agenda as presented second all those in favor Miss Ayers myself I miss McCaleb hi thank you um that puts us at public comments Hilda do we have any today okay thank you and that brings us to our superintendent our superintendent report Dr Lewis is not here but we will be hearing from Dr dupin on her behalf thank you madam president uh good evening members of the board executive team and our community both here in person and online it's an honor to sit in for Dr Lewis this evening I'm proud to do so she is attending a special event with the school superintendents Association in Washington D.C uh Gathering the super around the country to honor State superintendents of the year for the last two years it was an event that was postponed due to the pandemic and she also continues her work for public and policy advocacy in support of America's school so we wish her a great time and a safe return to us here in Creighton sad news recently the Creighton Community the Creighton family lost a very important member Lisa Jacob Eisen had been a member of the family here for 21 years as a mostly teacher at Larry C Kennedy School also as effective schools coach Mentor friend and the epitome of kind-hearted leadership all of us who knew Ms Lisa Jacob bison more in her passing and I invite everyone to join me in a brief moment of silence in her honor thank you November is going to be a busy month here in the Creighton School District there's lots of happy news and lots of things to celebrate as well as our Reflections on those that we've lost tonight is Dia de los Muertos today tomorrow Dia de los Muertos is a very important day in Mexican holidays Mexican culture as we honor our ancestors and we recognize our community who are taking part in those celebrations November is also a month to honor our Native American community cultures their traditions and the rich history and the bright future that they represent so in the Creighton School District we have a very robust Native American Family program there are some extra copies in the back we've distributed this electronically and for you we have these cool book bundles that are available for checkout for teachers who wish to bring some cultural enrichment into their classes so encourage everyone to check those out and utilize those to provide culturally enriching instruction in our classrooms this month as we honor our indigenous children we're also continuing our work on deep Equity this Thursday our Equity working group and leadership team will be gathering for another training with Wade and Benji from Corwin as we continue to deepen our work and next week the youth Equity leadership youth Equity stewardship series continues with Kennedy at Loma Linda school and November is going to be uh almost continuous series of Youth Equity stewardship workshops across the schools in our district and we're very excited about that and finally in conclusion to my report this evening from time to time the Arizona school boards Association recognizes its members for their continued engagement and hard work and it is my privilege to present this certificate from the Arizona School boards Association to our very own governing board president Ms Sophia doll this concludes my report Madam president thank you Miss Ayers don't have too much I just want to um Oh Kennedy of Loma Linda how very sorry um I am for your loss I did not know Lisa but um speaking um to other people they loved her and um I did have the pleasure to talk to Jay and her partner tonight um I sent her a card because three months ago I lost my wife so I wanted to connect with her and so we talked for about an hour today and she loves your school as well and feels such a part of your family and I look forward to becoming her friend we're going to meet up and kind of give each other comfort I'm very sorry for your loss thank you Miss McCaleb your Kleenex um I wanted to say some words about Lisa as well um I wasn't able to be at the services on Saturday but I heard they were amazing I want to give a special shout out to Patty Lockwood and Justine Hogue who I know coordinated as well as dozens of other people who helped make it off make it happen recently this District lost one of the most amazing humans I've had the privilege of working with Lisa Jacob Eisen was passionate and dedicated to her craft as an educator with all of her students she was firm but they knew she cared deeply about their well-being and success many of my old co-workers can speak to how much of an inspiration and role model she was to us as a teacher and I felt that as well when she moved into the effective schools coach role of that same passion culture of high expectations and caring support came through to all of the teachers she coached she dedicated extra time well beyond the work day to support school events teachers students and Families but beyond how phenomenal Lisa was as a professional it's who she was as a human that makes us the hardest to process yes she was kind caring and generous with her time her device randomly buying someone lunch an ear to listen Etc but it was how she intuitively knew when people needed that generosity the most it was how you could be walking down a hallway putting on a happy face as we all do as Educators because The Show Must Go On and she would stop you to check in to really check in because she just knew something was off that you needed to be heard that you needed support or maybe you just needed a five minute break whatever was going on and whatever you needed she was there whether you asked or not my words won't bring her back and there's nothing I can say to ease the Heartbreak that the staff students and families who knew who are feeling but I needed to recognize her tonight so you'll be missed more than you could possibly know and if she were here she'd say we're all exaggerating because with all of her amazing personality traits she was also one of the most humble people I've known so loved Lisa and Jane and to all the lck at Loma Linda family and everyone else throughout the district who knew her and worked with her and loved her so much thank you Miss McCaleb I did not have the opportunity to meet Lisa so that just shows me how much more work I have to do in the district I've heard wonderful things about her and my heart really hurts for the teachers the students and the family just know that whatever that we can do whatever support services that we can give even at a district level that we're here for you guys and I'm really sorry that I got to miss out on such a great human being um um I also um this weekend I know it's a weird shift but um on Friday we had an amazing carnival at my daughter's school I'm really appreciated that we had a great family night fun night it was a great turnout the president um PTO that we have at that school has been doing amazing work with the PTO we the kids had a lot of fun getting candy getting food and dunking Mrs Cartier and other teachers so I appreciate for the teachers um and all the fun and exciting things that they got to do with the kids so thank you for that um also very important today's the last day to turn in your ballot so if you have not turned in your ballad and you are rushing after this meeting I would go turn it in it's your last day there's some very important things on the ballot like some funding for certain school districts and also passing a proposition that would allow any immigrant student to have the same access to in-state tuition like any other Arizona resident so those are very important and lastly I did wanted to apologize for what happened the last meeting I know that we have some families and there was a lot of miscommunication going back and forth just know that that kind of situations will not happen anymore and I'm deeply sorry that families had to leave so I just felt like that needed to be said and I do have um one last thing from Miss Jeffrey she's actually out of the country in Europe um with her daughter so I'm gonna read her quick um board report and then we can proceed to the next um it says I know that Mr Comforts considers himself a man of integrity and always wants to do the right thing Mr Campos has stated to me that he and his family are renting a home in San Tan Valley but he is claiming residency at The Residence at the church where he works you cannot claim to be a resident at a secondary location of your choosing when you have a primary residence elsewhere I don't know how long this has been going on but it seems to be common knowledge among staff not being a resident is inconsistent with the statutory requirements for being a board member Mr Campos stated to me that he was going to resign on Monday October 24th due to a variety variety of reasons that would prevent him from attending any more board meetings anyway he has asked for help from the district to do so on October 20th after the last meeting for which he we did not have Quorum he said he would resign on Monday October 23rd with the district's help Mr Campos did not resign on Monday October 23rd but instead has decided to resign effective November 30th why is this happening I believe that any votes made tonight or possibly votes in next meetings or previous meetings should be invalid due to the fact that Mr Campos is no longer a resident and has not been for some time I've asked Dr Lewis to get our attorney's opinion on October 25th and still am awaiting to hear back I respectively respectfully request that Mr compost not attend meetings as a board member going further or that we table any votes this evening until we can receive advice from an attorney that represents the board all right and that brings us to our a through F School letter grades resolution review um I am so sorry I missed that my bad thank you for catching that um I moved the governing board approved consent agenda items a through F in accordance with policy bedb Dash e second um of those in favor Miss Ayers myself I miss Michaela aye okay now that brings us to our a through F School letter grades resolution review not a president for the first time in Alaska has issued a through F letter grades for Arizona schools as a team of leaders we've been looking at these as they've begun to come in and really experiencing a lot of professional tension around what they mean and what they don't to some degree there's a level of excitement and celebration around growth and there's also concern over not wanting to create a culture of complacency or you know get too comfortable with this new floor of academic growth that is reflected based on the way the letter grades were issued in the model that's been developed so with that I'll introduce Dr Berg who will share more for our discussion good evening Madam president members of the board um as Dr dupin stated tonight we're here to discuss the a through F state issued letter grades um tonight Mr Tyson Myers our coordinator of data and assessment is here to discuss the state statute that guides the letter grading process also he will discuss the most recent history about these grades in our state and finally he will be able to share with you the letter grades issued to our schools which were made public I believe last night so uh they are fresh off the presses so with that Mr Myers go ahead uh good evening Madam board Madam president members of the board executive team um thank you for getting the opportunity to talk about letter grades we haven't done this for a couple years so um we're just going to show you a little bit about some of the brief legislation and then some timeline history um Arizona advised statute 15241 requires a state board to issue letter grades to Public Schools before uh November 1st of each year um Dr Burton mentioned we've got those information uh late last night so just a brief timeline of letter grades uh we are using the current model now since 1617.

I'll call for the vote all those in favor of us adjourning to the executive session pursuant to ARS 38-431.03 A1 for discussion or consideration as superintendent performance standards please vote by saying aye aye any opposite name thank you we will adjourn and be back afterward test test foreign thank you test test all right thank you we are returning now from our executive session and we will begin our work study of calling this work study to order and we will begin with uh 3.01 traditional math curriculum adoption Dr McCord thank you madam president governing board members tonight we're going to give you well a couple other people are going to give you a presentation about the process to come up with a traditional math curriculum adoption I won't take any more of their Thunderbird we have Dr Newman and we have Crystal Udall from our teaching and learning and CIA Department good evening how are you don't forget to turn your microphones on you ready all right good evening Madam president governing board members and Dr McCord as Dr McCord mentioned we are here to discuss the GPS traditional curriculum adoption that we're doing for math we were notified recently last year that Saxon Math which we have always used in our traditional program since 1999 Inception of Neely Traditional Academy we've learned that that no longer will be available to districts to purchase so that's why we're here to kind of explain to you where we're at in that process and what we're doing I want to begin by introducing Crystal Udall crystal is our elementary math coordinator she actually is a form a parent of former Neely traditional students as well so she brings a lot of wonderful perspective as both a parent and a math expert and she also her coordination and facilitation of all of this work has been amazing and greatly appreciated so thank you for being here Crystal as I mentioned we knew that there was a need for a traditional math adoption and we wanted to make sure that we were looking through the lens of what is important within the GPS traditional program specifically for math we want to make sure that the Inc there's incremental learning that's going on and also that there's daily practice and that quick trajectory towards independent Mastery math is also taught one grade level ahead and what we noticed also is that this is not something that Gilbert Public Schools is doing just on the side because we're not happy with what has been going on at Neely traditional this is not unique to Gilbert public schools at all other districts are in the same place that we are some have already adopted curriculum others are waiting to see what other districts are doing and others are just like us they're in this process as well I wanted to bring attention to our adoption committee wow what an amazing group of committee members um very very impressed with them as you can see they represent all different areas and stakeholders and perspectives and the picture that you see right here are actually it was actually a three and a half meeting finally at 7 30 we're like we you have to go home but they were so vested in this work and they really wanted to have the presentation so this was actually a vendor presentation that they were watching the vendors and two very two different vendors and listening to what they had to say in addition to that they have met for meetings just to understand the process they've met to provide feedback to us they've met to review data and they on their own have individually reviewed products as well and all of that on their own time so this is something that's very important to all of them we had representatives from all three of our traditional campuses in this as well as some District Representatives the unique thing about this group also is many of those that are teachers or administrators we have a paraprofessional on the team they many of them function in two different roles they are either parents of traditional students or parents of former traditional students so we're able to have the perspective of both as well for that we follow the same process for every curriculum adoption so this probably isn't new to you but we are now sitting in November here on this slide we're here to provide some information to you about what the committee has is recommending for a product that we would like to provide some public review and initiate a pilot for that I I just have one question on the timeline when we will have a pilot and then we have the 60-day review and we make the final adoption in February will we begin using the curriculum right then in February or will we be waiting for the new school year so what we'll do is we um those teachers that are piloting if they want to continue they uh yes absolutely they could continue using it but we would use the rest of spring for training and then we would initiate for all in the fall all right thank you I hate going back and forth but there I go um in September the curriculum review process began and it was initiated it's an important process because we know that it's regardless of what the products are it's super important that they are representative of what we believe is important and it fulfills the Criterion that is necessary for us to ensure that we have a math product or any kind of curriculum project that specifically addresses the depth and rigor of our academic standards this is a unique situation because we also want to make sure that it represents what we believe is part of what the traditional program is and how it works and how it functions so we really did this in a two-step process the expectation initially was of a subcommittee which was a curriculum work group and they were looking through the lens truly of does this curriculum align to the standards and does it have the resources that we need for that Crystal do you want to talk a little bit about through the pieces um the second piece with the alignment to the rigger that we're speaking more of the balance of rigor leading to skills and application for standards and also looking at how the students are able to utilize that rigor and have a straight trajectory on the quit practice to Mastery of Standards sorry Crystal can you put the mic a little closer because I don't think it's picking up your voice there you go all right and then also in the area of the assessments assessments are measuring progress of students and having ways to collect ongoing data for teachers to measure students mastery so those are the specifics that we were looking for in those as well so initially we do a call for resources there were 11 submissions from vendors that we received of those 11 eight were formally reviewed by the curriculum committee the reason why we only reviewed eight out of the 11 was because it was important for us to have a K-8 product so while Neely and the traditional programs at both spectrum and Canyon Rim are Elementary we have fifth and sixth graders that are using seventh and 8th grade math it was important for us to have a K-8 product rather than having two and so they reviewed eight the expectation was again they worked several days they had very very long working days they had working lunches they came early and they stayed late this is super important for them to make sure that they took it very seriously I guess I should say and we knew that we were only going to move forward of those eight with products that we believed met all of the Criterion that's listed here can I ask a question um and I when you when you go out for an adoption like this how do you structure the language in terms of the difference between traditional and just our regular classroom so permit a math for a program of any kind what we did initially is they knew that within our call for resources we specifically talk about that it is for our traditional math program however we it does we there's not really a product out there specific other than what we've been currently using so we had to make broaden it a little bit to make sure that we had a quality math product to see what would best align to that traditional approach so these were our two finalists Math in Focus and I ready these two resources that came forward through this review met the criteria so of those eight if you would rank them these two met that was in the ninety percent or higher um both are evidence-based products that means that they have gone through research and studies and there's evidence according to what Essa or every student succeeds at demonstrates or or expects of products so as I mentioned when we first look at it we're looking really at a math product that we would say is a quality math product that meets all the Criterion that we would want and expect from from our curriculum resource so it's no surprise that when we did our vendor presentations the vendor presentations came pretty close to each other one was 8 19 out of 20 that would be our math and focus and the other is iready 18 out of 20.

and in terms of our time our energy finances recognizing that these were two uh really important components of us moving Danbury to the next level in terms of one being able to assess our students and two providing a robust Learning Management to kind of move us into 21st Century Learning and to be able to track our students progress over time in multiple years the first item agenda it will be a presentation on our I ready assessment system and the second one will be our schoology learning management system and I'll introduce folks as we do the presentation so I first want to welcome Melissa Nadu who is our stem curriculum administrator and also Patricia devino Hall who is our humanities curriculum administrator for K-12 and they were instrumental in helping to launch the I ready assessment system recognizing coming out of the pandemic really the need to be able to pinpoint very strategically where students are especially in a in a time and place when our students come to us in grade levels that and that they're looking very differently so how is it that we can pinpoint and really strategize on targeting instruction um at very um key in very key places using standards and using this robust assessment system uh to help support the teachers work and to help parents also to understand where their students are so I'm going to turn this over to Melissa and Trish who will talk a little bit about the assessment system and what it is what it can do while they're getting set up I'll continue to talk for a sec Melissa feel free to steal the screen anytime Cara wands are presented a lot of data in the last meeting and we did have conversations around making sure that we're targeting targeting our our students and understanding and digging deeper into more sensitive assessments that give us better information than some of our broader uh Big Ticket items like espa and GSS and sat so this really helps the teacher at the teacher level and I will let Melissa and Trish who have been instrumental in leading these efforts um talk to you a little bit about just sort of high level overview about the assessment system so that the committee and the board understands um what it is what it's capable of and why we use it Melissa Trish hi good evening everybody I'm Trish Hall and I'm here to talk to you a little bit about the iready assessment and uh so when we look at iready and why we why we chose I ready was because our former assessment uh was star and it never gave us the uh drilled down data to actually make teacher moves and so with with this new i-Ready diagnostic we're able to get both Criterion and Norm reference data and it gives us a high predictability around how well we can perform on our s-back assessments and so what we've done is um we we adopted the I ready as a diagnostic assessment and it was built from College and Career Readiness standards for both reading and for mathematics it's an integrated system that reflects teaching and learning that's happening right in the right in the teacher's classroom I ready assessments provide comprehensive insight into our our student learning across the K-12 skills that pinpoint student strengths and their next steps for instruction so where are the students now and where do they need to go so then it also shows us an aspirational attainable goal for each individual student so it sets up Target uh targets for both stretch targets and an attainable typical growth targets for for our students so that the teachers know where to the students and how to push them to obtain those goals excuse me um in the iready Learning System it engages students through motivating personalized reading instruction and math instruction based on each individual student's skill level that the diagnostic assesses and so it will provide the teachers with these resources for both whole class and small group instruction that Foster student growth and aligns to grade level learning that's the critical piece all of these digital resources are put into place for um for the teachers on this iready platform and it also allows uh teachers to save some time in their planning so that they they can really spend the time drilling down to each student's need and hold those students at that high expectation level we go into the diagnostic assessment I don't know if you're runs uh slide three thank you you may be wondering how an uh that this diagnostic assessment works it's actually a just based on each student response to a question each of the students as they answer a question correctly they see more difficult items and questions and as they answer um items incorrectly it drops down to an easier question it adapts to find the precise proficiency level of each student at their level [Music] so the i-Ready diagnostic actually starts at one grade level below the student's chronological grade so if they're in fifth grade it starts them off at fourth grade questions and standards and then it will go from there for to either as I said earlier if the questions if the student is getting the questions correct it gets the questions get harder if they start getting questions incorrect they get a little bit easier questions so that it levels off um to get a proficiency and range of skills for the students they're expected to get about 50 percent of the items correct and 50 of the items incorrect so that that proficiency or range of skills is identified much more accurately foreign then generates an overall proficiency level for each individual student in both reading and math and it also identifies each student level by domain the information on the diagnostic gathers the process gathers information from I already diagnostic identifies the student strengths as a foundation to support uh to targeted instruction for the teacher so the teacher gets true accurate data about where that student is it also can inform the next steps for for student growth which is captured in these i-Ready reports which Melissa will talk about in a few minutes um but what I thought it would be fun for us to do is to um practice a little bit on our own and I'm going to give you a chat and if you can click on this link in the chat I thought it would be fun for you guys if you're interested in playing around with this diagnostic simulator so I put in the chat the simulator and if you click on the third grade or the seventh grade the orange ones either of the orange you could choose which one you want you could play around and see and experience what a student actually does experience when they're taking this assessment of course I encourage you to get some answers wrong so that you can um see how how the questions get a little easier we're going to give you a couple minutes to just play around with that and I wanted I wanted you to think about this as you're going what do you notice about the diagnostic and how powerful it can be to benefit students and teachers as you're going through this experience I'll give you like maybe two minutes if you're interested foreign what's your last name for the minutes Hall h-a-l-l thank you because I see Divine on the on the screen so people hyphenate my name my last name um and they put Divino hyphen Hall um but my actual last name is just Hall okay thank you you're welcome and so Trish if they um aren't ready to maybe play around with it now they can just certainly copy paste the link and that would be active later on as well correct yes perfect that's what I was just gonna so if we could come back I'll let you play with that after but I just wanted to tell you so once once the diagnostic assessment is completed it then it then turns into a real individualized personalized program for each student it it will absolutely use his Insight from that Diagnostic and creates a personalized path of engaging online lessons for each individual student in this way students are receiving instruction and practice in areas where they need the most support they feel motivated in the lessons because they're active they're supportive and relevant to the student the teachers are enjoying the program because they can add lessons adjust lessons in sequencing for their students and how that and know that their students are receiving explicit systematic instruction the i-Ready diagnostic is an Adaptive assessment that places students into lessons at their zone of proximal development which is based on the assessment teachers are able to see the students can do's and their next steps they can see groups of students with similar needs they can access teacher-led tools for instruction to provide small group instruction this data from the personalized instruction can provide guidance for how to group students by common areas of strength opportunities for growth and how to provide strategic instruction that addresses specific skills and that's the teacher portion where the teacher can actually assign specific standards or a specific assignment directed towards that personal need for the student it also then generates another um automatically automatic personalized instruction just specifically for this the student themselves that aligns that the students can just practice on their own as well and it includes uh reading instruction and practice on phonological awareness phonics high frequency words vocabulary and comprehension these are lessons are focused on each of the domains that are assessed in this assessment and are are designed to reflect the research and opinions uh summarized to ensure students learn to read with fluency and understanding for reading in math IT addresses all the critical domains specified by the National Council of teachers for mathematics and the Common Core such as numbers and operations algebra and algebraic thinking measurement and data and geometry so it really does Target specific student need you'll notice now that um I'm going to turn it over to Melissa who is going to talk to you about the types of data teachers can actually use in order to form inform their instruction and and place those students in those teacher assigned or my path lessons good evening everybody so I'm going to start with a little overview of the different types of data that I know Cara wanzer has probably exhausted you all with these terms but I'm going to take another stab at it because it's very useful to keep in mind as we go through the rest of this presentation um we started with how we used to use an assessment system called star we are required by the state of Connecticut to report data that requirement insists that we use Norm referenced data Norm reference data compares the performance of students to other students performance right so when you have a norm reference data you're basically saying this student is falling into a certain percentile maybe 65 percent towards these learning Norms where another student might be at the 85th percentile that's Norm reference when you're comparing them a Criterion referenced is what students know and can do in relation to grade level standards and that's the journey I'm about to take you guys on why these two things are different and why the i-Ready assessment system and platform provides us with information called Criterion reference data as well as Norm reference data in order to make strategic decisions in the classroom to Target and accelerate students learning um let's start with Norm reference you know I made I made the comment that's a norm reference data will give you a comparison of students performance so when you look at Norm reference data you're going to have um a student labeled at the 75th percentile and the 95th percentile so student a here what it's telling us is that student performs better than 75 of the students who are in that age group of fifth graders student B we would get information from a norm reference test that that student um is performing better than 95 percent of other fifth graders so I want you to put a teacher cap on and think about what that data tells you as a teacher what that data would tell me as a teacher as a former math teacher would be okay I have one student who has more skills than maybe this other student I don't know what those skills are I don't know much about why this kid is BET at 95 percent um proficiency compared to other fifth graders I don't have any detailed information on that and that's where Criterion reference data is different so consider these two students student a a Criterion referenced assessment can give me information that tells me um what this student knows and what it can do against grade level standards and so if I look at student a and I know that that student a is three grade levels below um on a strand called numbers and operations and two grade levels below on a strand for geometry I'm probably as a teacher going to provide very different supports for student a because of where they are standing in Criterion reference data as opposed to student B who is above grade level for numbers and operations and on grade level for geometry right so these two different students require different things in my classroom so this Criterion reference data provides me with enough information as a classroom teacher that I can start begin to Target the needs of student a who needs some support to accelerate their learning towards grade level standards but also Target student B because we have both of these students in Danbury public schools so I need to also know how to treat student B's classroom experience to keep them accelerating their learning and and continue their their growth as well so let's talk about what this data looks like for teachers on a Class View so this is a screenshot um of a grade five what you would see in a grade five classroom I'm a grade five teacher this is the iready data that I look at when I look at it at first glance it's giving me Criterion reference data on these students I have the four strands of mathematics below it's telling me that three of my students are mid or above grade level it's also telling me I have to move some stuff around on my screen it's also telling me that I have three students three or more grade levels below so if I'm a teacher and I'm planning for my instruction I need to ensure that I'm reaching those top students and I'm also providing the supports necessary for the students who may not yet have reached grade level standard wow so this is another score report that teachers would see um this shows uh grade five class and I'm going to take you through some steps of Criterion reference data the first information I get is a scaled score I ready when the students take the test will calculate a scaled score and this is what bases the norm reference data that we'll talk about in a little in a few minutes the scale score will inform the overall placement okay so if I'm a fifth grade teacher and I see well three of my students are at early grade five but three of them are at grade four I'm gonna have to understand what to do for those grade four students to allow them access to my grade five standards if we look at this section it's called placement by domain so in mathematics we have four domains numbers and operations algebraic thinking measurements and data and geometry so all of these four strands are really important in mathematics especially depending on what you're about to teach so if I look at this and I look at that last student I'm noticing something about their geometry scores their geometry scores are still on a grade three level so if I'm a fifth grade teacher and I'm getting ready to teach concepts of volume I need to understand how that is going to affect that student's ability to ascertain the information I am sharing with them and then this is a very important measurement I ready which we've never actually had a measure like this before the i-Ready system will calculate a growth goal two growth goals in fact four students the first growth goal is called the typical growth goal that's typically the growth we'd expect a student to see so in January our students are going to take a second Diagnostic and we're going to get a read on their typical growth goal a typical growth goal is going to begin growing those students towards one grade level of growth so if students are meeting that typical growth goal in January we know as teachers we are right you know we're getting to where we need to be if they are not it can give us information on how we we need to better Target and provide supports for those students the stretch goal is obviously larger stretch right it's a higher growth goal not typical we don't expect to see a stretch growth but that stretch goals if if we reach it we are really bringing students along further than a Year's worth of growth in a year so keep these in mind these are all Criterion it's giving me information as a teacher about what my students know and what they can do now like I said earlier we are required by the state of Connecticut to report Norm reference data Norm reference data may not necessarily help a classroom teacher but what's unique about the i-Ready system is it gives us both which our old assessment system did not it only gave us Norm reference data which was not tangible for a teacher to go and make changes in their instruction so a norm reference data would give us this information about the students which I referred to before right it's not necessarily something that a teacher can act to change in their classroom but this data is absolutely important for our reporting back to the state of Connecticut so I'm gonna now go into so that's classroom view for a teacher right I I have a whole view of my class in this all of the students sitting in front of me now I want to talk about a student view okay and there's also data and reports on individual students right so if I have I'm sorry I'm trying to play DJ and talk and click buttons here this is an example of a score report for Anna Jones Anna Jones is a fictitious um character she does not exist um in hopefully in our district but this is a fake report and this report gives me a classroom teacher some really interesting information um let's start with this line right here that line that green line that says mid on grade level is where a student would be in grade five if they were on grade level as you can see based on her Diagnostic and Anna Jones is scoring at a grade four okay so she has not yet made that mid on grade level line for grade five but that whole green box where you see that typical growth goal of 488 that's where we want to get Anna Jones in this score report it gives that differentiated growth measure for this student in particular so if Anna makes her typical growth goal this year she will be have she will have made on grade level status and that is our goal for all of our students in this report it also provides us the information on the student for their placement by domain okay so this is mathematics I can see that Anna Jones has some strengths she's a fifth grade student and she's scoring in mid-fifth grade level for algebraic thinking that's phenomenal for me as a teacher because now I can pull on that asset I can use that strength of hers to hit some of those other domains where she has not yet made grade level status thank you the other information that these reports give us um are super important in my opinion and the first one is something that we need to do more and celebrate more of what our students are right you guys received statistics last week that are troubling but guess what our students can do a lot of things and why this is important for a classroom teacher is that I know Anna has skills in mathematics and this shows me what those skills are these are the things she can do and if I can pull on those assets I can give Anna success in accessing the material that she has not yet had the opportunity to learn and that's extremely important for a classroom teacher the other thing these reports do for the teacher not only just the classroom teacher but any support staff who may work with these students is give them next steps and resources aligned to the skills that will get Anna to reach that typical growth goal so if you look here the next step for Anna is to go into subtracting multi-digit numbers as a teacher when you have a classroom with varying needs having this one access to click and get the resources to me Anna's needs whether it be in the small group in the classroom or whether Anna's going to a school support specialist for for extra help is extremely important it doesn't it get it frees up the time a teacher needs um by providing everything right there instead of them having to search for this for the for the resources that will help animate her needs um and there's also things called tools for instruction as a teacher this provides mini lesson plans with that are very short and targeted to get Anna to a point to understand what those topics are in her next step resource area foreign is um instructional support okay so we talked about the reports that give you a snapshot of your whole class we talked about the report that gives you in-depth information on a student now how is a classroom teacher when I have 26 kids sitting in front of me do I meet all of those varying needs and sometimes just an hour of mathematics a day okay that's what these reports are going to give give us insight into um this first report shows you how it I want to call it a groupinator and I don't know if that's a term that makes sense but it groups students based on their assets and based on what their next steps can be so if I'm a teacher I know and I when I look at this report that the students listed in group a eight students they are ready to tackle this next topic that I'm about to show the students on grade level students in group b there's three of them they need some additional support they do not have all of the prerequisite skills that they need to access that grade level as you go down you will see there gets um there there's more need there there's more there's there's the teacher needs to provide more access to previous grade level standards so that they can then access the on grade level standards what makes this wonderful for a classroom teacher is that there are recommendations built in to the system so that when you do have a class of 26 students in front of you you can provide four different access opportunities for students to reach that grade level standard and that's what the arrow is pointing at there it shows you recommendations for instructional moves that you can take with your classroom to get them to access the material this report exists for math as well as for reading thank you there's an additional report for reading which I think is kind of neat and cool and what it does is it takes students and groups them based on their Lexile levels so you'll see on the top if I'm a teacher 60 of my students in my class can be grouped in a well-matched environment so that if they are working on an assignment together they can both access that reading passage together and support each other's learning however in my same group of students there's 60 I have 19 students who I really need to provide some some targeted support and in this case it's it talks about decoding so these 19 students as a teacher I might be able to start getting most of my class on the reading passage by working together but of this group I need to take some of those 19 students and I need to spend some one-on-one time through shared reading or a teacher of read aloud to have students decode the text that they're going to need access to so the iready reports take the guesswork um it allows teachers to make instructional moves immediately sometimes it takes three months to get to know your students I know this as a classroom teacher this gives teachers some immediate insight to begin um reaching their needs but it doesn't stop there I feel like I'm a Salesman tonight it doesn't stop there there's also family reports this year families will get a new report going home for the iready report these reports are very similar to the ones you saw teachers looking at okay it provides that same graph of um not graph chart on identifying skill levels in each of the domains and it gives parents information parents and family information on what areas their child may need of improvement on and where they are at a grade level where they are approaching grade level I am currently working with elementary schools around the district to um embed in literacy nights if this is what your score score report looks like and it says that this student needs Improvement here here's some of the things you can do at home um to have your student grow in that area the other the other thing it does is it gives the visual representation of where their student is and where they need to go to hit the grade level standards there's a second sheet to this um grade level report which provides a narrative okay so if we had on the previous one the domains that give you information about needing Improvement or at grade level and approaching grade level The Narrative provides a little bit of a detailed report on what that means so you're going to you're going to see additional information about what types of topics students will need to master so that's it from me um you know I cannot I'll stop sharing because nobody wants to see thank you written a thousand times um you know I will I will share that if I were a classroom teacher and I had access to the power of this program they would have I'd like to think I was a great teacher but it would have revolutionized my teaching practice and from the conversations I've had with classroom teachers who are implementing and using iready right now it is it is changing how they see the use of time in their classrooms and when I hear teachers telling me that that means more to me than anything I may think or feel about the assessment system so thank you for your time tonight I'll pass it back to Cara thanks Melissa thank you Trish um great job on that um I just wanted to just add to that that the you know the a really key part of um the assessment system that we put into place here is allowing teachers the time to actually use it um and to understand it and we've dedicated um a good deal of professional development time this year uh especially at the beginning of the year and we'll be spiraling that through the course of the year so that teachers can use this tool and and plan accordingly so um it has been well received the training has been well received and certainly the leadership behind the training has been well received as well and they've been nothing but absolute Pros in this so it is a comprehensive Tool uh that we use to really illuminate student performance and it's something coming out of the pandemic that we felt we needed a really robust and sophisticated program to help us with that um as Melissa mentioned we've only had to report normed data to the state which has been helpful for the state but not necessarily helpful for the for the instructor uh Teresa you have a question you're saying standards do you input the standards into the system or is it already built into the system um how does that work so no the standards are in the system so those are your mathematical standards your literacy standards and so they're based on so that's really student performance against those standards so the standards are fairly common common to all I was just wondering is it state standards yes thank you but Luisa um I don't know if I missed this at the beginning but what grade levels is this being implemented and where are we are we using it cross-district already or so we have a K8 um and we you know we can it's it is available through 10th grade um but we started with K8 um we originally were only going to start with K5 and then at the last minute we added six eight once we started to really get to understand the tool and what it could do we'd love to expand on it a bit um it is you know it's one of the it's you know it's a tool that costs money and uh we're hoping to be able to expand a little bit uh either next year or the year after so if I'm understanding with this with this uh program I mean you can specifically get to individual children and identify exactly you know pinpoint exactly where they're lacking and how and additionally are getting the tools built in on how to help them in that area yes it's a tremendous tool for a teacher it is it's a it's a gift yeah it sounds fabulous I wish it was there when my my kids were in school because it sounds just that it makes the whole process and I don't want to say easier but just able to kind of you're able to get through to that answer to that question on what each child needs much quicker absolutely it creates a really efficient process for the teacher to be able to quickly organize for to to do their planning um teachers are you know respond to to what happens on a daily basis so um to be able to quickly plan a new lesson for the next day based on what they're seeing in class or in between assessments um is really really important additionally some of the um we have the Middle School level we do have some some places where we have an Adaptive piece where in addition students can have adaptive practice that's designed and personalized just for them um that is it's an extra feature in the program and we we are using it uh in some limited places right now to see to see uh you know what what we can do with that thank you yeah anything else Michelle do you have a oh okay sorry um so I think sometime back we had talked about the ability for any student let's say they weren't uh they were just getting by in algebra and they decided to take an honors course right you said anybody is available to take any course would this system really identify the fact that they shouldn't be in that honors class and kind of you know what I'm saying like if we can really Target in and say all right these are your strengths and your three grades behind and then they go to apply because I don't know certain things happen their teammates are on that in that class you know wouldn't that really kind of almost put the teacher in a disadvantage knowing that they aren't even prepared to be in that class according to this iready program just wondering how you know looking down further as the assessment really takes hold and the practice that we have where we would allow you know or entertain that almost making it more difficult for the teacher sure so you know as students move the grades most of our students have grasped some level of the content along the way whether or not they were several years behind or they're a year behind um and what the what the assessment does is does illuminate the the the places to Target and so where Michelle I may have been a little more concerned about that in the past this assessment will allow teachers to close that gap down pretty quickly um you know the goal that we've been focusing on over the last couple of years has been to really flood our elementary level with a lot of support so that we have less and less kids coming out of K5 six eight um needing such drastic remediation if you will and so um this assessment will again help to accelerate that process I do want to ask Melissa they do um this is so this has been a topic of conversation that we've tossed around for for quite a bit we do have an open enrollment system um part of part of our open enrollment system you know there's a counseling piece that occurs as well about where students typically are to terms of their skills and students get some guidance on where where where they may find some success but also still be challenged enough for that for that stretch learning so um Melissa do you want to talk a little bit about um because this is not actually this is probably more of a common problem than than you think with uh with in our students being uh where they are especially with the data that was presented last week we have students who are not on grade level in some areas yeah so are you asking me to speak specifically to enrollment in like AP courses or honors like is that what you're asking me to speak with okay so I mean go ahead I'm sorry I didn't mean to cut you off I guess right where you start to be able to select those courses you know so those are higher grades than eighth grade right we're moving into high school where we're just talking about possibly 10th grade extending it to that level so I mean I I I hope that we can extend this assessment system it is phenomenal right so um to I guess I'll start with this what I hope this assessment does for us is gives students the opportunity to get on grade level before this question you know is even an issue I hope that we can use this um as an advantage to do that um because all students deserve opportunity to learn at high levels the second way I will answer this is you know I'll just start with with you know our current classes and and how they are enrolled I don't think we have an overabundance of students enrolling in AP classes that don't belong there um our classes are actually relatively small at the AP level um in most cases I will not pretend that many kids struggle in our AP classes because AP classes are hard they are college level courses um so many times we are developing ways to improve skill work over the summer prior to them coming into our courses we have various conversations um across Math and Science in particular right because they're interconnected you cannot take a science AP without having math skills um and you cannot do well in math without have critical thinking skills that are really developed in science and so we spend we spend time in our professional development sessions crosswalking skills um that are really necessary to be successful in in an AP but also an honors course and I won't I won't pick on the two ladies who you're going to hear from next but I think very highly of them um Amanda Peterson um has been at the high school for many years she's is now at our Middle School level but she has been part an integral part of that work right so like when we look at how do you support a system how do you support a system how do you support a student through a systemic Vision to be successful in those classes it's a it's a conversation that we try to have between departments to look at those skills along the way I think where we have struggled in Danbury is once they get you know we have to get them to the high school to even be able to have the opportunity to choose any class where what we need to work on is that path that learning progression that occurs between the k through eight Realm especially when you have 13 elementary schools filing into you know three schools soon to be four and then those four schools filing into one large Comprehensive High School how do we really design a system that's based on a learning progression that will have all students Master these skills prior to that choice happening I think it will be another data point that we can use to successfully counsel kids into the right decision for their learning progression thank you Cara I hit it but not hard enough anything else before we move on to Schoology one more question you mentioned that it's an expensive program I did speak with um Kevin Wilson last night and I had asked what are what what is the cost of this program um I could I can get that to you uh it's the the cost of the hosting at per school is different than the cost of the PD so this year um in the first year of any implementation you pay more uh for the professional development package that comes with it and the training that comes in so I can get the I can get the exact numbers for you but um these these programs our last program was upwards of a hundred thousand dollars for the entire District this one is is hovering I think just slightly over that okay yeah if you could that'd be great thank you okay so I would thank you so much Trish and Melissa um I would like to introduce you now to Rachel and Amanda and uh before I let them take these take the screen uh just a little shout out because you know we do not have a large um Ed Tech uh staff here in our district um if you were to look down the road in Naugatuck you'd see seven or eight um digital technology coaches you'd see digital directors you'd see digital Innovation directors you'd see a multitude of Staff dedicated to digital learning um when we rolled out schoology it was myself Gina Jasmine our director of Technology was also in charge of all the infrastructure as well uh and then Rachel and Amanda who volunteered as step up to help us out and have been just doing incredible work to really dig into um this this learning management system and to help not just teachers to navigate the shift which has been um uh definitely challenging coming off of our pandemic and our use of another tool and getting used to something different um but also uh their their patients and developing tools and resources for this program so I just want to thank the both of them because uh they've been amazing Rachel is our stem supervisor for six eight and Amanda is our is our stem coach at the middle school level well they have been fantastic so um they have been really in the driver's seat of a lot of the teacher learning on the teacher side of this and been super super helpful and resourceful so um with that I will let Rachel and Amanda talk to you a little bit about our learning management system and some of the whys of switching and sort of the urgency behind why we needed to do that thanks care all right all right Amanda's sharing and so Cara introduced us but uh just a little bit of background in uh last fall all of the um secondary principles the department heads and coaches got training on schoology I was in a unique position because I taught a class so I kind of um asked and volunteered if I could jump right in and and start using it with my class in December uh which I think then ended up being the reason why I became like the liaison for schoology and the rest of the training and Amanda um jumped on board so uh we got a lot of experience with this and we're going to kind of talk you through about uh five different things uh tonight like The Power of schoology why we're using it how it works and looks portfolios and how it connects to portrait of a graduate and the work we're doing there um a comparison with what we had before with Google classroom and just kind of a slight training rule out overview uh first is just kind of the power of it um we really um you know it's a learning management system uh you might see it uh shortened to LMS a lot of times and um with the with learning management systems like this this is what students are going to find when they go to college um all the colleges and universities are using things like canvas and Blackboard um and and so schoology will really provide them that kind of stepping stone in order to get to um to that preparedness for what college life is going to be like uh it provides them with really this like platform for Interactive Learning through the um through the computer that's not just like a zoom call right now um or just a place where they can gather files uh what we can do on schoology kind of like the big what we can do is uh we can create we can create courses right into schoology uh we can use materials we can share out materials we can also um create uh lessons and activities where we can actually assign standards to the uh lessons themselves uh zoology has the capability to connect our great like the grading can be done right in the schoology platform and it syncs with our PowerSchool Gradebook systems um so that's really nice and um like I was saying before it is it is a system um Google Classroom while it sounded great and it met our needs for the um for the pandemic it is it is really just a file sharing platform there's not a lot of interaction that can be done through Google Classroom that you can get through um an actual learning management system so how it works and looks is extremely important and what you're going to see when you go into Schoology uh so the first thing you see is when the kids sign in they see recent activities so here's kind of that other connection to Google Classroom where they just get a feed of everything their teachers have posted for all of their classes I would like to pinpoint here that we also have what's upcoming their reminders overdue so they're constantly getting these reminders you see that same thing again when they go to their course dashboard so now the students can go in between their different classes but they're still getting all of these reminders and when they go to a specific course they're getting that specific course reminders and things that are upcoming there is also a calendar feature for our students so they can actually use the calendar up here Blue on Blue is a very bad color Choice sorry um I did Circle it but it's all organized in one place for them you'll also notice I should point out we have folders so the organization part of schoology as a teacher I can say here's everything that goes into unit one and I can put it in there I think that's actually my next slide nope it's not you'll see you later it's later in our presentation um but it folds out so I can see specifically what I'm doing and it just allows more freedom for the teacher um so I have also been involved in a lot of the different subcommunities sub Committees of uh some of the portrait of a graduate work that's happening here and um something that was very powerful and a very strong push for us to move to the schoology platform is that there is a built-in portfolio section that students can utilize through um through uh schoology um and and this portfolio feature is is really kind of special because while um with Google classrooms you could create like different files and um a class where you could house a portfolio these portfolios and schoology will actually follow the student so they're not attached to any specific course they go with the student so right now 6 12 students could start things in grade six and and collect and organize and and start building towards the attributes of portrait of a graduate from the time they're in sixth grade all the way until the time they graduate so it will all be housed and it will all be connected to them it is their personal portfolio um shared with any of the teachers they currently will have but um and if we expand this to kindergarten this can even start as as early as kindergarten and then it really comes down to what is this comparison um and the comparison between schoology versus Google Classroom so this is the same teacher different years and so this is the teachers um honors Algebra 2 class right now where here's unit one and everything the kids need for week four is listed here and then if you look at what happened with Google Classroom it really just was a stream of information and there was no um nice way capability uh to organize it so we wanted to make sure we showed you the side by side comparison and then we were going to make a Venn diagram but a list kind of worked better here um so parents can access the entire course for schoology we're in Google classroom they couldn't they just got an automated email every week with updates schoology has some really good accessibility features where they have text to speech and so the students can actually now click a button and whatever that announcement was the teacher just made will talk to them there was none of that built into Google classroom before both of them do have mobile applications um both of them work with Google applications so students can still hand in Google Docs and teachers can still assign a Google Presentation that the kids fill out still capable within the schoology um schoology does sync with PowerSchool Google Classroom does not and it really does prepare students for Learning Management Systems in post-secondary schools because as Rachel said earlier there's three there's Blackboard there's canvas and there's schoology and those are the three that are used I should also add as Rachel was talking sorry I remembered another thing as well um schoology does have a feature where the kids can create inside of schoology so if you create an assignment there is just a text feature where they could type or they could insert a video and they can make that video on the platform itself they don't need any special tools or extensions uh and so I think kind of the final thing we wanted to share out really is is how our training rollout has happened um as I mentioned earlier in the fall of last year 2021 we the administration the department has been coaches we were all kind of given this initial training um we then moved into super user training where we had about 40 to 50 um 6 12 teachers volunteer to get extra training and start piloting this this work on in the spring we kind of trained everyone on little uh like two to three hour like um virtual trainings so that they got kind of an overview uh over the summer Amanda and I did a lot of work on making little mini like tutorials and videos and little just how-to documents so that teachers had a nice like go-to place for little references um at back to school the first the first week of school anyone who was not got who was not trained in the spring got trained and as well as be offered to some teachers who just needed a refresher there has been some additional pde um were about right smack in the middle of it that the department heads are getting right now and coaches uh where we're learning just to go deeper and get some more information and use like some more of like the robust tools that are provided with schoology um you know we we often with any new platform there's growing tools there's growing pains and um so we have when some teachers have expressed a little bit of frustration we have said look yeah we can do all these cool things and we will but remember we're kind of like in the The Crawling stages of right now so if you're learning to walk we're crawling and we're using it at the basic level and um we are we are going to grow with this and be able to really use the whole like robust offerings that it provides question any questions on Schoology I think sorry I'm trying to find my there we go Louisa sorry I couldn't I couldn't see uh who was raising their hand so this is rolled out District wide 6 12 6 12.

High School student Althea Ito and we have Mr Sam Perdomo online with the opening remarks and we do have Althea here in person Mr Perdomo hello good evening this is Mr predomo I am the proud very proud principal at Gladstone High School I am here to introduce one of gh's most aspiring students altheaito who so eloquently discussed at the grant makers for Education conference in Austin Texas this past October her involvement in diversity our narrative student initiative which included working collaborative ausd teachers to co-construct a high school English language arts curriculum that included more diverse literature as well as the Don students advocacy for the implementation of ethnic studies courses and the ausd diversity equity and inclusion committee without further Ado I present Althea Ito foreign chapter of diversify our narrative otherwise known as Dawn um first I would like to express my gratitude towards our very own superintendent Mr Ortega for extending such an opportunity I'm forever more grateful for your thought and consideration it truly means a lot to me and of course this goes without saying um my Everlasting Love and appreciation for Dr Dana Lynn Mitchell who quite frankly has served as my Polaris as I navigate my journey into adulthood this past question we call life though you know how much so yeah um to the teachers and Alum who have stood by our campaign on yieldingly thank you for giving us the strength support and conviction to carry onward and to my Dawn family all our organizers let us see this as a testament to Our Success struggling with you all has been nothing short if not an honor student voice and agency is a quintessential element when we think of the future of our pedagogy that being said I would like to remind the board today that as we move forward with our plans towards transition we must highlight the importance of history and contrary to popular belief history Remains Not in the past but in the present we carry our history with us we are nothing if not a grand Mosaic a grand amalgamation of history stories and people and as a student I know firsthand the fact that our students our children our future grow into the titles that they are given and that our first exposure to systemic change happens right here in this very room and incepting change may be daunting but it also means that there public comment is limited to three minutes per individual um hope do we have any members in person with a blue card and Ms Gloria Sanchez Romero good evening um I'm here because I was the told that uh you guys had made up your mind and decided um on the mascot for the high school and um I'm fine with that but um what I was upset about is the person that was taking us down was on the committee and him and his son were on the committee and I didn't think that was very right because um he no longer lives in the city of Azusa so I didn't think that he should have been even on the committee and I think only the residences that have been there on the committee to decide uh the future of this is the high school because it does have um what 66 years when the school opened up in 1956 going on their seventh year so I didn't think that um committee should have had somebody that was taking us down for our mascot and being on the committee should have been on the committee no longer lived and that's what I feel and I'm just wanted to express my feelings because I just didn't right at all and whatever your decisions is um I know with kind of late but um that's all I have to say but I do want to say congratulations to Gladstone's varsity football team because my grandson is on that team and I hope we make thank you Mr Romero are there any other members of the public wishing to make comment tonight online we have no hands raised online thank you Lika moving to item 8.0 comments reports and requests by the Board of Education board member Rodriguez Pena would you like to start us off course sure so um first of all I want to wish everyone the police Dia de los Madres sorry and this is the way we respect and honor our loved ones that have passed away and we usually have an altar in memory of that person our family members and um first I wanted to speak about I went to Azusa High School to the manufacturing week at Azusa High we had speed mentoring for 11th grade students participated in speed mentoring with mentors from Citrus College city of Azusa Parks and Recreation uh Toyota with Covina myself and uh as the Aus well I I actually was there in honor of the rotarians and students sat and spoke to us regarding um what their future careers are going to be and we let them know what our careers and how we got where we're at and um then we asked questions what is our skulls good to hear students to touch a young age knowing that they have dreams in there what they want to do in the future um I went to Paramount Elementary School think together lights on after school these students were so excited to write about their after school program students walking through showcasing of events that take place after school sports curriculum homework and things that they do a thing together I was very impressed with the little girl she was only a third grader and she was really excited and showing us everything and she memorized everything and I was very impressed with this young lady um Blackstone high school I went to the last homecoming game it was so great to be there there were so many Alum alums from there from Texas New York Wisconsin Alabama Peru Florida Chicago Colorado Kentucky Seattle Washington Kansas City and Puerto Rico and also the queen came um the first thing that was crowned in 1967 and may I say that's Mr Trio and that's Gabriela Ariana's mother-in-law she came and she crowned the last queen which is really beautiful it was a really beautiful scene I'm again I'm getting Goosebumps with that but it was very um memorable that day for everyone and um it was great um on Friday's game between this is a high in Glaston High School yes I want to graduate congratulate the students from Gladstone High School for for winning this game they worked very hard I want to congratulate both of the teams they both did a great job but as you know in everything we do there has to be a winner and a loser and that's just the way it is and and I want to congratulate the boys who working together and and having a great game and and I heard it was it was really good well attended and the voice did a great job but I want to wish him both good luck for the first round at the CIF playoffs I went to Lee school to judge the pumpkin contest and they called me to ask if I want a VTA mom asked if I wanted to go to judge some pumpkins I'm like sure I'll go judge some pumpkins I go on this room there's 70 pumpkins in there I'm like oh my gosh and we have to pick the scariest the funniest the creative the creative one and I'm gonna congratulate all the students that got involved from kindergarten all the way up to um sixth grade I went to Slauson Middle School to judge the say no to drug doors and me also for the Halloween door contest Murray Elementary School I went to the Halloween Chris um uh costume parade with music dancing the principal Mr Adrian Acosta he was a big crayon box and all his staff members each of them had different crayon outfits on in different colors it was really cute but it's really nice to be out again at all the school sites and see everyone and everyone having a great time thank you thank you board member Rodriguez Pena board member Ariana good evening everyone here in attendance thank you for showing up today I like to see people out in the audience and for you guys um at home I would like to also congratulate um first uh Azusa for winning the first game and the second game that we had to we had um I want to congratulate Gladstone High School I was at the game and it was just you know half time it was 6-0 then towards the end it was like six six and they went into overtime people were going crazy it was like is this happening is this not it was just a really exciting game and the boys played hard on both teams I um for the first uh for the first game I sat on Gladstone's side and I remained there for this time I sat on a Souza side and remained there for for the rest of the game and so um for those of you guys that didn't see me I just you know had two games just instead of going back and forth but congratulations guys can't wait for Friday for you guys to go into CIF and just the excitement and for um Mark um I want to mention his last name pujian who John thank you so much for those pictures that you took of our boys they they were amazing um they are amazing and so thank you with that homecoming um last week for Gladstone High School it was a uh I I I'm not gonna I cried um when uh we had Mr Albert Sanchez organize a lot of the alumni to come and like uh my colleague board member Rodriguez Pena said that many came from many states out of the country just to come to this homecoming and it was uh you know it was organized there was a um we we uh alumni cheerleaders and football players uh we all went in one line to for the boys during half time to go to the locker room since this was going to be the last time the boys went into the locker room at Citrus College and so it was very very emotional for me um it was emotional throughout the whole homecoming uh got to see a lot of uh alumni a lot of friends uh Saturday there was the alumni picnic it was well attended about 50 people showed up and it was it was nice it was nice to you know to to see um see other people meet people um from there I got to share a few words um there at the picnic it was organized uh well and thank you to Asus that connects for for them being able to get involved in and help um with that organ to have that going on and organize that that day um this last Friday going back to this last game um everything was emotional for me as well um like the last time our Souza boys were going to go into that locker room right the last time it's like it was just I literally was sobbing and people were probably looking at me like why is this woman crying well you don't understand like this is the last time it at both of our schools you know are going to play against each other and and as soon as a resident and been here you know my my family that went to a Souza high they were in tears I went to Gladstone we were in tears just being able to be unified and moving together in collaborative approach of how we're going to move this forward and just being united is what I felt from Asus aside I do have to say that um and how well and cheerful they are oh my gosh I loved it loved the whole drum and stuff and so anyhow um thank you guys for for making it um a successful event it was very safe I do have to say that um and thank you to the administration and cabinet for making sure that our students and our parents and whoever attended the this last game was was safe um other than that I want to welcome our student board member Carolina Dominguez yes this is our first day here welcome and please feel free to let us know and give your opinion or you have questions that's what we're here for so welcome to our board thank you board member Cruz Gonzalez thank you um it's a couple things so I actually missed the last meeting and it happened to be because I was at a conference for work and it happened to be the grant makers for Education conference I was presenting there as well so as I got there just imagine my surprise when I started looking at the agenda and I saw Dana and althea's name on the agenda I was like what um so I was able actually able to go to the session and watch them present um and I mean I think I think others have have just talked about I mean the way they've talked about how Althea spoke I think I think about the way I was a senior in high school and I was like Wow right because um because just the way um I'll tell you you're able to express um and communicate with people I think um it's just it's very amazing so I was really blessed to be there um but I will also say we were we were well represented because I know you referenced vaguely California Ed Partners um and so I went to their session as well because I know we do a lot of part work with them especially with our looking at the dnf rates and then our early childhood stuff and so they actually they went through an exercise where they had some example some um example districts that were Anonymous but one was a Suburban district with around 7 500 students in L.A County doctors I wasn't up to and I was like is this and he's like he's like I don't know so um the thing about this conference is this is like philanthropy and education go and take pretty much like the programs they're most proud about and come to present didn't know that we were we were in two different sessions there I think is really amazing and a testament to the work that is happening in the in this District so I just want to express that that appreciation um and then um really excited about the dielos de los Muertos activities in Halloween to have a Halloween parade again at schools is really great to see that come back um and at a hodge dual immersion many of the kids may have made ofrendas so alters for the other smartos and so I think on Thursday they're going to have the gym the cafeteria is going to be open from one to two so people can come actually come and see all of your friends that the kids have done um so really excited about seeing the integration of culture in in what our students do so um just with those two things I think I will leave it at that I think and and then I'm going to be leaving a little early today because um it's the last day for my my son Soccer League I haven't been to a single Tuesday game because they're always on Tuesday nights so tonight's last night so I'm going to be taking off a little early but I did want to make sure I was here especially for the important what we have coming up on the appointment thank you board member Cruz Gonzalez um I just wanted to encourage everyone here if you're here you're a parent you're a Community member you're a teacher you're a staff happy and I just want to wish everyone a safe fall as we move into daylight savings time also we're in the middle of cold and flu season so taking care of each other and taking care of ourselves and preparing for finals this week and are getting to start the second trimester on November 7th thank you thank you so much hi Mr rokio good evening Board of Education staff and Community I'll be brief with my comments this year I began by sharing with site administrators that it was my personal goal to be at school sites on a regular basis to visit classrooms where the magic happens watching our students and staff interact and also respond to site needs while I was there thus far I've been able to visit nine School sites and I'll be visiting another School site later this week among the many highlights that I've had thus far this school year this by far ranks as one of the highest thank you good evening all um the business services division continues with our listening meetings last week we walked Foothill Middle School with principal Ferrer where we were able to listen to the needs I'm addressing concerns and we also walked matp and we're able to see their setup the students were actually carving pumpkins that they bought at the pumpkin patch the day before I'm also want to thank nutrition services for their amazing spooky breakfast and lunch we continue to keep getting pictures of the kids enjoying it um noja they loved it that's what I'm going to say it looked spooky but they loved it both the breakfast and lunch um also want to announce that we completed the installation of our surveillance cameras at Lee Elementary and we're moving on to Dalton as well as Hodge and we've also completed another one of our asphalt projects and I was at Gladstone High School so I want to thank you can I just say one thing about what I've noticed at the school sites the um those speakers the new speakers that have a the have you seen it they have the speakers and the um the clock is so clear everything's really so do they answer the phone through there or does it just announcements or what so that is from our main amazing manual or a new intercom system that is being installed um so that was that's a PA system that will um we could use for alerts as well as to make announcement on our campuses oh thank you very nice I had the opportunity last week to attend Mr Coburn's uh Studio 26 suspense project screenings the students did an amazing job with some short suspense films that they developed in teams um so we got to watch their short films and um the students came up and shared how they developed their projects the process that they went through and the development and they also took questions from the audience so that was a wonderful event hosted by Mr Coburn's last I also had the chance to again be at Boston middle school with a board member Rodriguez Pena and we judged the Red Ribbon Week door competition and it was very difficult to select um a winner but they all did a wonderful job in translating the theme through their artwork so it was great opportunity to engage with this good evening uh last week I had the opportunity to go to Royal Oak Middle School in the Charter Oak Unified School District where the Salpa was hosting an art fair for all the students and all the district Partners so it was extremely extremely awesome to see our students and our staff interacting with other students and staffs from other districts being involved with art activities and projects uh it was just a really really awesome uh day there at the South art fair I too had the opportunity to go to the football game on Friday it was a nail biter it was exciting it went this way then that way uh it was like an NFL game right before right before our eyes I do want to thank all of the Azusa High School and Gladstone High School staff that was there helping and assisting I also want to thank uh the Azusa Police Department for their partnership uh and um and their uh collaboration on this night uh it was a a very celebratory night and a very safe night uh so I just want to say to say thank you thank you so much Mr Ortega we now
