um you need to remember that our preschool kids that are on our books that we get ADM for and our kindergartens kids only are a half ADM so that's that it counts from that difference there um when you compare it against last year we are up um looks like about 47 students right now so that's about we've been steady about 50 over last year which is um a great place to be I'll take that all day long uh we'll go in the right direction are they just close to our 100 day numbers these are projected 108. okay so we don't hit our 100 day until like where it says on there we're at day 60.

motion thank you Ashton Gary so if you vote Yes you're voting to abate the bonds which means give them five hundred thousand dollars if you don't know you're saying that the district keeps it just so everyone's clear yeah voting yes is to abate so to forgive the five hundred you want to start from real cool again yes that's it most passes uh anybody have any questions on the dismissal of a educational support Personnel Employee for the reasons other than reduction in force can you please have a motion to approve uh the dismissal uh Monica brookart Monica can I please have the approval the motion to dismissal of Monica Brew cart for reasons other than reduction in force Second Joe and Ash yes yes all right the next item has if you looked at your packet you saw a substitute teacher rates um I just wanted I put this in here I don't like to make changes mid-year we're just having some challenges uh a little bit uh with local local districts have gone up pretty high you look at wakanda and Round Lake just jump their numbers up daily rates at 175 and 180 and we are we started the year competitive I still think we're competitive at 125 per day for sub rates um what I'm proposing that we do and it's not I left it off the table here I so I left it off the T no I'm sorry the table shows current rates I'm proposing that we increase our rate to 150 in our our daily rates 150 in our long term to 235 and then we add a permanent Sub in each building at a rate of 190 per day so that way we have at least three Subs available every day without having to try to find people we have some people who've been dedicated and have been very consistent for us and I'm just afraid of losing them to Local districts so I feel like we make this adjustment it will help me out to fill these positions and I also have on here and if you're not comfortable this please say so in your motion but that that you would give me some flexibility to make adjustments if if the market shows it in the area that we need to make an adjustment I can't imagine any more adjustments for this year but I could see it coming and I don't I don't always want me bringing this to you so that's part of The Proposal did you run into issues with full-time Subs why are we talking about that we did yeah I am able to do it uh I've talked to um uh you know our our attorney and other districts now that are doing it and I'm able to do it in this way now so I because I thought yeah yeah um I think by not putting them in the same class all day or every day then I then it's different but uh um yeah other districts are doing it so I'm yeah I'm wanting to do it I don't have the uh you notice that rates not this it's a little lower than the permanent the long long term subbing rate because a long-term sub in a class has taken maternity leave they're doing lesson planning and Grading and all of that these daily positions are just bouncing every day to a class just to fill in so they don't have the extra work outside and we're guaranteeing them employment so but I don't think there's any days this year where we wouldn't use those those positions so if if the permanent sub is here in that let's say for a classroom that they use for a pair of Aid or some other if they're here and they're not used if they're not they probably would yeah I don't I don't know if we've had a day where we haven't used some yeah yeah but yeah we would we would use them in uh we would put them in a classroom yep cost wise I want to tell you too we ended up at the middle school and I put in here that uh I think on the first page I put in here a number of hours of internal subbing we've done those hours when we pay staff to cover their from the if I've got a prep period And I have to go do a class that period we pay them 33 an hour to do that so over the course of the day we're paying well over what we'd pay a sub just to cover the class by internal subbing so financially it's not going to be as big a hit as it might look I guess that's it I'm all for it yeah I mean it's still only twenty dollars an hour they'll work at Buena for 18.

if you didn't live in the area or part of the school or the area at that time Dunham road was graveling Bottom road zigzagged all the way to 75th where the mall is where the White Castle on the other stores and restaurants are the mall used to be an Old Farm which for years and years was vacant before they eventually demolished it there were no homes to the south of Downer South we didn't have a pool I think we were the last year before the pool was built the big news was we got the new gym okay I've been study halls and free periods from my first year or two in trailers okay outside the school cafeteria I think we might have been the first or second year of open campus that was a thrill so that's the connection to the community I have a younger brother he went to South my mom God bless her was an artist she was a legal secretary in the city for many years a stay-at-home mom for a while decided to pursue Library science got an LTA from the College of DuPage who was one of the first Librarians at Morton Arboretum and because of her love for children I ended up becoming a children's librarian at the first Woodridge Library which was in a house moved to the second one down the block and did that for many years all the while I had this interest in art I brought a little biography that we framed and put in the house which I'll set out so people who might be interested to learn a little bit more about her but she did everything started out with charcoals watercolors acrylics oils she got into all kinds of different looks and so forth until she really got into collages which is pretty emotional stuff I wish you'd take pictures Dice stampings and all kinds of things so she passed unfortunately in 2019 of dementia my father lived to 98 he was still driving passed earlier this year in January so when he passed being the eldest of two sons the executive of the estate I got everything so I've been going through for the last 11 months 70 odd years worth of stuff my dad had taxes going back to 1947.

2018 they were state champions 2019 State runner-up 2020 State runner-up and that again in class this year in 2022 were again considered the class state champions they changed it up a little bit we are a large school and they divided into classes and we were the large school state champion and so I will let Mrs Summers go from there thank you Mr Perry okay so we're so happy to be in person can we say that so happy to be in person we had over 20 people come out for this billboard team this year just huge so I decided for the first time ever at Central to have two full spellball teams so we had two teams of ten a blue team and an orange team so in-person competition was at Brown County junior high and both teams if we were allowed to take two teams to State we place first overall of all schools of all sizes in the state and our other team placed sixth in the state so top ten for both of them but blue team actually took home the state championship for that performance which was awesome and I do want to recognize at the regional competition at Brown County we had seven students with perfect or near perfect scores so as I say your names just take one step forward so we can recognize you for that okay Isla ronit sanjit Ali rajvi shreyan and Crystal so congratulations for that that's a big deal awesome awesome um I first told my teammates that I was having way too much fun with this group and I wasn't sure how competitive we would be but it was going to be one of my most fun years and then we went and took the championship so next we were invited to go to Purdue to compete with the top 30 teams in the whole state despite the size of school there we had a solid top five finish we ate good sushi drank boba tea um made some good memories right and we did have six students who had perfect or near perfect at Purdue so those students are Ron it sanjit Ali Ava rajvi and Crystal congratulations for that [Applause] all right and anyone who had a perfect score at either regionals or at Purdue was invited to an individual competition for state so we had students enter that we had six students actually and Ava ronit and Crystal so if you want to step forward Ava and Rana are here they earned silver medals in the state missing only one word of 50 words in the state so it was awesome and SRI and who's not with us tonight he won the bronze medal missing only two words in the state so Champions then champions again and champions again so these are some awesome kids congratulations thank you congratulations [Laughter] foreign thank you so very much I almost asked what the hardest word is but I won't do that I will I will offer though if you and your families would love to go home we'll give you a moment to do that that we can continue the meeting or you're welcome to stay many takers congratulations again thank you oh sorry all right we'll go ahead with our presentation for this evening at each of our meetings we strive to identify to learn more about best practices and our presentation this evening is from Columbus East High School Mr Newell and Ms shambly all right thank you very much Dr Roberts and the board those of you know me though I'm pretty quiet and don't talk a whole lot but tonight talking about Columbus East High School I'm very excited about that I'm a cease is very near and dear to my heart so Lori and I are going to talk about the culture of East and um we think that's a really strong suit of what East has to offer when I look at tonight we have Charles Edwards who was a leader East is now here we have Kristen Beck who is leader East now here we have Bill Jensen who is leader East and brought me into the East culture we have Bridget Van Horn was in the counseling department East is now over here and all those individuals that have the DNA of East culture running through them and the beautiful thing is that every school in bcsd has his own culture and all that is flowing through us and we're all together as one bcsd culture okay and it's all different makes it beautiful makes it strong and that makes us able to serve this community stronger through our diversity we've got in our different cultures um so we're going to focus on the East culture tonight and so the first thing I've got again celebrating 50 years in 1972 and how you Define culture and so it's hard to put a word to it or a phrase to it and we believe in student voice and so Brianna Ballard was the yearbook editor in 2009 I apologize for the length of the quote but I think she really nailed the East culture with this um Leo episcopia once said 11 relationship is one in which the loved one is free to be himself to laugh with me but never at me to cry with me but never because of me to love life to love himself to love being loved this quote symbolizes not only a wonderful relationship between two people but a motto followed by the students and faculty at East at East there were people from all different types of backgrounds none of that mattered when you stepped in the doors at East everyone was treated equally and clicks ceased to exist as an e-student you share a special bond with your classmates that no one else can understand whether it was going off campus for lunch together or spending resource library with your friends we always had a good time at East this is powerful you were not judged because the activities you participate in or the clothes you chose to put on that morning at East you could choose your own destiny you were free to be yourself free to be whatever you wanted again this is student voice very powerful notice I bowled it at east you could choose your own destiny we'll come back to that here in a little bit so where does culture start so officially September 11 1972 was the first day of school we just had sophomores and juniors when we started the East so 1974 was the first graduating class you can see the teachers support staff administrators many teachers at North were part of this and spent the previous year planning for the new school the first day student meeting was held at the football field due to the fact that where's Dr Bozeman there was no gymnasium no Auditorium no planetarium no science lab no Greenhouse no swimming pool and the music ring wing was not ready for students so basically had just a shell for the students to roll into that first day it was a week late too on top of that so they started a week late all the students are on the third floor those are only rooms that could hold students and Mr Jensen can tell you that that time the third floor was small group rooms with no doors on them so they had homeroom for three days on the third floor the large group downstairs was the only classroom available it had two hanging lights from it and folding chairs throughout for that classroom PE was used in the Commons since there's no gym choir was used in the stairwells in a small room off the cafeteria no digital cameras back then so you need a dark room there's no dark room so they use a men's bathroom on the second floor for a dark room um just as you can imagine total tools construction workers were all replaced clutter everywhere and I bet money Dr Bozeman there was no fire watch going on at that time either like we have had in the past on that part if you look at the picture on the left that is going to be from the commons looking towards the cafeteria we now have a library and part of the commons so that was wide open to the cafeteria there was no Library there at the time on the right is the resource floor you can see the tables for individual study this is hard to see but these were carols that teachers had individual carols that teachers were there and then this was like office space on that but there are several of those on the resource floor and this is from the from the first year book these adverse conditions created Unity among students and staff enthusiasm ran high makeshift facilities were set up and school began the new modular system coupled with the spirit of cooperation precipitated by the attempts to overcome the problems of new school helped to create a school a different type the closest of the student body and its extreme enthusiasm helped the people of East to overcome seemingly instrumental odds and Achieve many things during the maiden year so that was a facility situation we had the flood in 08 we had construction 0-9 16-19 but nothing nothing like this okay so that's what they started with so the second part of the facilities is the program design and they actually started that in 1966.

oh no currently we have 461 students 381 are receiving Direct Services 51 are in the first year monitoring and 29 are in the second so the state of Indiana still has us monitor them for two years and then they're still considered in our program in case they need some assistance okay here's our results from last year so um these are this the different ones the kids in red are first time test takers so we have nothing to compare it to the kids in blue are our alternate students and then pink sometimes there's a glitch and some kids don't test um this is the Middle School population and then the high school so overall we had 397 students test 72 or new eight were alternate so our percent of improvement was 72 percent last year we were at 65 so I think covid made a big difference like with them being in person so our diversity we have um 32 languages 29 countries Spanish is our number one language and Gujarati made it so we do the top five and so they are four percent of our population each night we hold a parent night for the parents to come in we have done it both virtually and in person this year we did in person this is just a view of where our students come from um a lot of them come from the United States are born and raised here but have a dominant language at home that is not English so Essa is just accountability for our students but No Child Left Behind they had to come up with a way of how to measure our students so what they do is they take their Wida scores and they compare them to the previous year and that helps go into their Improvement what they would like to see is that students they start and they test out within six years that doesn't really happen but that's the goal that they'd like to see and that's it any questions Liz I have one uh for general information it's my fault I didn't see it quick enough oh I'm sorry do you want me to go back here no no the one screen showed of the languages that we deal with the last one begin with the G the Gujarati that's from India India thank you I wasn't familiar with it yeah that one that um like I said it's new on our chart for one of the top five for Lake Central very good thank you all right thanks oh yes I would so we have 461 yeah rounded to 500 with preschool kids we've got 10 000 well you know ten thousand five hundred so five percent yeah I was gonna say five but I didn't want to say five any other questions they were they were 65 last year and then this year 72.

aye opposed 5-0 and for assistant Clerk of the board I'll nominate Kathy Smith okay we have a motion in a second for Mrs Smith assistant clerk all in favor say aye aye opposed okay five zero Miss Smith okay next we'll go to uh appointments for the Board of Trustees which is Five Section Five and now we have 5.1 secretary it is recommended that the Board of Trustees appoint the superintendent as Secretary of the Board of Trustees do you have a motion second we have a motion in a second any discussion all in favor say aye aye opposed now I hope he does a good job pleasure well we'll hold him to that standard yes uh 5.2 assistant secretary it is recommended the board trustees appoint the assistant superintendent of business as the assistant Secretary of the board so moved okay I'll second we have a motion in a second any questions all in favor say aye aye aye opposed 5-0 Miss Neon thank you for accepting the position uh parliamentarian it is recommended the Board of Trustees appoint the district council as the parliamentarian of the board Motion in a second any discussion all in favor say aye aye aye opposed 5-0 Mr parliamentarian Council and we have Chief negotiator it is recommended the Board of Trustees appoint the assistant superintendent of Human Resources as the chief negotiator of the board hello second second we have a motion a second any discussion all in favor say aye aye opposed we have 5-0 congratulations everybody's in place I'm sorry we don't have a position for you Dr freed or just it is is it good all right all right number six established day and hour for regular school board meetings action item the board is uh I've trustees requested to determine the calendar for the 2023 regular school board and that's in exhibit a have any um concerns any comments about the plan calendar meeting dates no do we have a motion to accept this time so it moved second second question a second all in favor say aye aye aye opposed 5-0 moving to that was that one moving to number now I do have a question okay it says meetings date and time an hour so nothing was specified I'm assuming we will then maintain the same because it's not really mentioned it's it's titled established day and hour but um and the meetings begin at six okay so okay so it's all the same then okay okay um Board of Trustees appointments to committees and that is in exhibit B b as in boy okay okay oh we exhibit B exhibit B starting with starting with North Orange County Regional I would like to nominate Brian O'Neill a second I gotta get my glasses okay all right so that's for the ROP right all right um next is the a greater Anaheim uh let's can we vote all together all together at the end yeah I think we did last year okay uh unless we have some issues that pop up but uh greater Anaheim the casalpa is uh Miss Trejo and Mr Jabar was the alternate uh Mr Andrew you want to continue on yes okay uh we don't have to have a an alternate do we if no one's interested but it would be nice it's always nice in case they can't make it and then does anybody want to be the alternate I'll be happy to be an alternate okay very good appointments to committees uh auhsd Foundation uh Mr Randall Trejo continue um does anybody else want to serve on this well you have two positions because Mr Jabar is it's so we would have two empty spots that need to be filled I'd be interested in two people Jessica okay okay um because there are two yeah two positions it's not an altar okay so we have Jessica's one we have another person that would want to sit in on the foundation and Marie I'll I'll stay yeah okay just want to make sure all right next one is the Anaheim sister city Commission and so let me just explain that one yeah this is up in the air um as of last the last meeting I attended which was just a couple weeks ago um the sister city commission was basically disbanded and these Anaheim sister yeah I'm sister the Anaheim council is bringing forth their own recommendations for people to fill the positions um but also people have to apply for the positions so if Mrs um whoever Smith or or whoever wanted to go onto it or Miss Percy wanted to go back onto it you have to apply or reapply so to speak right so it was not specified that that the board or that the district has two positions available I I don't like to assume but I am assuming that there are two positions available as before because they just said you can you can reapply do you have to live in Anaheim well no we didn't no because if we don't no um but because well again I'm not sure whether they're going to make that stipulation but I do know they want you to apply and um I don't know when the applications are being taken but I know that I'm ready to step down and I talked to Jennifer Society because she was interested before and had applied and I told her apply again because I do believe they kind of were leaving two positions open for educators okay okay and so that means any of the school districts in other words in the area so an elementary teacher might you know who who was chaperone one time might want to apply okay so um I you know it's it's totally different now and so whoever I did encourage her to apply and and if anybody else in the education is interested they again will put in an application but the two Reserve positions for our board is no longer there yeah okay yeah does anybody on the board feel like they would want to apply to the to the commission doesn't mean you would get on it but do you want to reply and we'll just make a note of it so when are they taking their apple truth sometimes all right it's opened up already yeah oh okay it's opened up yeah I'll have to let Jennifer know because I wasn't sure when they were opening they meet downtown at the community center at the community center or City Hall one of the two right now we've been meeting at the community center at four o'clock yeah four o'clock on the fourth Monday Monday of the month okay can we come back to this I think Pony we'll just leave that we I think we can leave that title ahsc foundation on the list but just leave a blank until we decide if there's going to be anybody that is accepted if they wanted to apply and then we'll just have a note of it because you're Yeah well yeah right I didn't know if you were going to apply too or not okay okay uh next two years is enough yeah yeah um uh csba delegate assembly we have one person and that's Randall travel no action required and but you want to stay on it okay um new trustee selected will have to go through delicacy okay that's if we have someone new uh political action representative for Orange County School Board Association that's ocsba Miss Randall Trejo sure okay trustee O'Neill yeah um I believe we have two slots for csba delegate assembly is that correct before we had trusty Randall Trejo and Jabar nobody wants to Austin we could just leave Emery there I would be interested am I allowed to serve on csba sure I think you have to serve two years two years you have to serve to you or have served two years I think you thank you yeah okay so you need two years of experience before you can yeah okay okay all right then we'll move on to a Nomine committee for Orange County committee on School District organization Miss Piercy I'll keep that okay maybe you can explain to the new board member what that means oh which is this is this is the uh committee on School District organization oh okay yeah have you ever had to do anything on that one not really no because uh that's why you wanted to stay on it it's only once a year that you'd have to do paperwork yeah in other words is what it is okay and uh so it School District organization it depends upon what happens so it's not just our district it's any of the Orange County Schools okay and it has to go through a total process so as long as no schools are trying to reorganize there's nothing happening yeah I got it thank you if if one of them does then yeah thank you Mr C uh city of Anaheim park and rec Mrs Smith I'd like to stay on that okay uh representative to Insurance committee uh I wanted to stay on this Smith Piercy and rentals alternate okay I'm gonna be alternate Jessica an alternate I can mean alternate yeah again on Wednesdays to be honest yes that can be an alternate okay and that's only if one of us and then they let you know okay yeah okay representative the budget committee um it is one spot is empty because Mr Jabar left and I will stay on that I would be interested in sitting on the budget good good it's a good question about what's going on excellent yeah foreign next we have a representative to the wellness committee be happy to do that I was not on that was I it says your name did you know that I was supposed to attend meetings last year I'm sorry about that three times a year you missed them yeah uh yeah um I I guess what I have no knowledge what do we do Kathy we used led by Orlando when he brings in oh that okay I'm sorry I didn't connect Food Services with that yes I have been to those meetings I retract my statement I'm not as bad as I sound all right Kathy you want to stay on that yes please okay I'll stay on it too yeah uh ripped into the student discipline task force Miss Percy Miss Miss yes like this day on okay I'd like to be alternate okay all right going to appointments to Liaison committee city of Anaheim we have Miss Reynold Trejo and Mr Jabar is out I could be the liaison friend okay uh Emery do you want to stay sure okay uh city of Buena Park Miss Piercy and Miss Smith I want to remain I will okay we don't need an alternate but uh do you want to stay on the alternate sure okay all right city of Cyprus Piercy and O'Neill uh of course [Laughter] I'll stay on it City of La Palma O'Neil and Smith fine okay both of us all right uh Cydia Stanton Piercy and uh Blank Spot I want to stay we haven't done much lately but I you know they used to be really active anybody want to fill Al's position I'll do it okay all right going to legislative contacts and districts uh state senator Josh Newman the 29th District we have Miss Smith I'll stay with that okay and and Maria's uh alternate yes okay Senators state senator Tom umberg 34th District Smith okay I'll be the alternate okay got it uh Senator Janet and Nguyen 36th I'll take that one okay all right and anybody I'll do alternate you want to do an alternate okay okay Senator Alex Padilla Mr jabar's position is open Smith okay you can alternate development yeah and Marie no problem yeah okay yeah there is a problem Henry no go ahead okay yeah U.S senator uh Dianne Feinstein excuse me Mr Randall Trejo sure okay and there was an alternate Mr Jabar anybody want to take the alternate position do you want to okay and then State Assembly uh Sharon Quirk Silva I like to stay there I'll I'll continue as the alternate okay getting close here that's it nope I had a question on page number 10. oh I'm three three question on page three I had a question on page three so I think um the State Assembly sixth day and 69 I think it's just the 68th now with Evelina Valencia so Tom Daley is no longer yeah so we're saying we remove what uh we would remove State Assembly Tom Daly so it's just the 68th District if you're saying there's no 69th no with the redistricting oh redistrict redistricting okay are the others still correct though those are correct except uh U.S congressman I think it's Robert Garcia now for the 47th yes okay thank you for 47 47.

so this this was done this morning it's projected based on enrollments everything else what our 100th day would be it's probably not going to change much are what tends to happen between now and February is our elementary numbers go up and our high school numbers go down I don't know why that is uh but that's just how it works typically um so it should remain that ADM through the 100th day yep the aggregate expenditure limits um for those that don't know what the AEL is um it is a constitutional provision that says that I don't even say public education because it's not it doesn't include charter schools that district schools can only be a certain percentage of the state budget even though the legislature allocated money to district schools including Chino Valley Unified School District um we may not have the authority the money is going to be in our banking account have the availability to us we may not be legally able to spend it and so what happens is there was a calculation that said we need to cut we if the aggregate expenditure limit is not waived by the legislature that we would have to cut 17 of our budget with 20 of the school year left um the only there's there's not a whole with most of our budget being in people there's not a whole lot of ways to accomplish that so um what does that mean well um we're not going to talk about what we're not to the point where we need to talk about what would happen um we need to talk about how to get the waiver they did a waiver last year um the waiver has to be done by March 1st if it's not by done by March 1st the cuts have to start taking place April 1st and so um there has to be a two-thirds majority in each house of the legislature the governor does not need to sign it um in order to waive this provision um um I was down at the state legislature um two Thursdays ago to with a um a press conference to urge the governor to do a special session um the I also signed on to a letter with the Arizona School administrators with 200 other superintendents requesting a special session um based on what's going on the legislature can call a special session we don't necessarily want the legislature to do it because that opens up to any topic that any of the 90 legislators want to talk about with the governor he can say let's all we're going to do is talk about the AEO so that's why we're asking the governor to do that um also it's the current legislature is the one that allocated the funds that we're asking them to waive so that's why we also I would like to get this done it is not good for kids and not good for employees staff when staff are worried about whether they're going to have a job when this comes down to February this last year's waiver took place the week before the last week in February the latest it basically Could Happen um anyway uh if it does not if a special session is not called I'll work with um lobbyists and other superintendents to try to get um this waiver you know taken care of any questions from you guys from y'all counting down to the end of the month Yeah well yeah he has to tell what January 6th or 7th or something like that where he the legislature the the new governor takes over and is sworn in so that's when it has to happen um the later we get into December the less likely it's going to happen because of the holiday um it's already um the there's some legislators that say they have the votes the governor says they don't um you know I don't know I don't I think both are are being sincere and so um it's really up to the governors it's in the governor's court right now uh the other thing is the governor has talked about trying to add some additional items into a special session if they do call it so that it wouldn't just be the aggregate expenditure limit it's politics and he can do that if he wants correct he can he can make a special session based on anything or just one thing where if it's a done by the legislature it has it can be it has to be opened up to any topic so all right um projects update some lots lots of neat things going on in the district right now um our tea tree RFP um for a teacher housing our request for proposal is due a week from today on the 19th we'll be coming to you in January asking for approval of that project whatever it happens to be last time when we met I talked about us meeting with the town the meeting with the town was fantastic they were very very accommodating and we appreciate the the work that they did and it was just us talking to the town rather than developers that really needed to happen and so that took place in the the town was extremely helpful and accommodating and we got that information off to the potential bidders and hopefully that will help them refine their bids as well and so we hope to have like I said we will have something for you not hope by um the the meeting in January the update on the grant came out today and that was accepted by the Coconino County Board of Supervisors and they are currently working on a plan to on how to distribute that money and that could be you know our project we anticipate between a million and a million and a half dollars this uh Grant could be for up to five hundred thousand dollars of that so um we are perfect timing for right now we're in good shape and so uh we're just moving forward uh with the with everything and so we're excited about that of the tech playground this morning we had a cool ribbon cutting I actually have a giant pair of scissors in my truck that I need to get back to Karen um we had a bunch of um of the the outstanding territorial students that cut the ribbon on the brand new playground if you drive past Tech you'll see it the the blue and orange playground that was paid for using Esser funds and um it was fantastic so it they were it was a horrible day to to have it's just because of the weather they really wanted to get on it I think they were they able to get out at all no it just it was too wet we they talked about it trying to get on it the the afternoon recess but it just didn't work out the tech Paw Patrol and so they're they're they're chomping at the bit to get on these brand this brand new playground equipment um I want to thank our guys our specifically staff did some of the prep work on it so I want to thank them and then we had the Play it Again Play it play it safe that came in and that's we bought it from and they installed the equipment so um that was um there they we really really want to get them going and but uh the weather just kind of prevented a little bit but we have pictures that'll go out with the ribbon cutting and everything so that didn't include the wall That's separate that's actually a different project on here we'll talk about that um we have an Autism playground uh that should be going in in January that is going in um over by the weight room over here for our autism program that's using um I believe special ed covid funds is that correct um and then we have uh I was super excited they were working on the foundation for the football field bathrooms today yes so they have started construction on the football field bathrooms super excited about that so I I stopped by and and uh wished him luck on that uh the tech wall is something that we'll be doing um coming that will be one or two projects away from the bathrooms and that's to move the playground wall to the east to drive some of that that road water if everyone's seen it where it's rained really hard we get Lake territorial in the playground so we want to remove some of that road water off to the north a little bit by building a wall and and making the the field a little bit less wet in the when it rains um we have an extension of the bus lane that our guys will do um probably in the summer the DRS parking lot is scheduled for spring break that's where they had some engineering issues that they are have rectified um bleachers at Heritage in Chino Valley High School we got bids and we're just waiting on kind of the bleaches to come in I believe and that's maybe in the summer I think is what our schedule is for that but that's being paid for by the school facilities board are those replacement features or replacement bleachers so instead of having the wood leeches that we have now we'll have brand new plastic ones that are Adas they're Ada accessible along with just we can actually get them in and out which we can't do with our current bleachers a lot of times so and then when they're closed one side at the high school will say cdhs yeah it says Cougars have they decided what to do at the highest at the middle school for the bleachers are they going to say anything I met with them this morning okay and um he's gonna drop some specs for us and then we'll look at it right so there'll be a graphic on them well when they are closed they'll say something on the uh yep exactly exactly that's super um the West gym rehab is this part here this um the wrestling room we're going to rehab the floor and the stage that's done with this facilities board East gym weatherization that's getting rid of the windows that leaked like a sieve and that's done through the school facilities board we have some Del Rio AC projects the district AC project overall that's in scheduling right now uh likely to start in summer being paid for by other people which is exciting um and so um it's it's looking pretty good I want to thank uh John Livingston for his his tenacity with the scosilius board um I want to thank the school facilities board they have their attitude has changed significantly and I want to thank thank them and Andy Tobin who's the director who actually lives in our district and and so I want to thank him for for the work that he's done and Jack Smith also he's a Prescott Valley resident he's a number two at the sfmb so they've they've taken care of us I mean I want to acknowledge that so questions about projects I am so impressed I guess it's my night for reminiscing when I was on the first school bun committee some of these were on there that we were not able to get the bond passed and I mean to fruition I this is awesome well the other thing that we're our yellow limos were the other thing that were on there and um we have two on order I believe if not more we have also some white some other white activity buses on order um we basically have to order those a year out but we we have them going and and we're getting new ones and so that's um we're replacing our Fleet I think we have a couple and you'll on the consent agenda there's a an item to donate some of our yellow buses to kafma for training and so those may be the last of our 80s buses ain't one bite you could be 1990 one 1980 so that might be the end of them so we should have a ribbon cutting them so yeah no you're absolutely right a lot of what we talked about is is was we're able to now do because of cooperation with sfob along with the restoration of our Capital which still is not where we'd like it to be we you know they they don't it's the same that we've always had um since the last 20 years as far as the first per pupil amount which means with inflation it's it's less than the spending power is less but still it's better than we have been in the past speaking about you did send us a note that the court decided not to allow postponement of the capital lawsuit correct is there any update on what's going on there just January that's all we know okay so that's all I've heard okay yes um we have a Thanksgiving lunches we served over 1100 adults in addition to the students at all schools which was a significant increase I want to thank everyone that participated in that it's uh one of my favorite things that we do all year is bring the families on to onto our campus and serve them Thanksgiving meal and the kids are so excited um that and I think Sodexo for the quality of the food they do a good job with that as well um asba young annual conference starts on Wednesday we have Cindy Annie Marcia and Mike going and so I just want to remind you about that I do want to say Cindy Daniels is doing a presentation on Friday morning at 8 30.

okay he was a world Truth at the Battle of the Bulge played at Patton's funeral he had a very he's amazing man he's buried in the military cemetery down in Joliet but when he passed he said what are you gonna do with all the mom stuff or before he did I I said well I thought I'd donate it I got some ideas in mind so I shared the idea of doing that and he was thrilled so it's with the love of my parents their love of art because my dad was a photographer and we've accumulated all of these things I mean frames glass matting beveled mats must be close to a couple hundred mats all hand tools small power tools and so forth that the students I'm sure will just love and use for their their creativity so what better place than to give it back even my mom's and dad's love for children and my time at the community I thought we we do this when I went into the school and talked to Omar about it he said oh yeah we'll take it so in the last couple months we've been working through the details and I didn't know he was going to go through all of this but you know my folks my brother and I and the family the entire family my aunt my mom's younger sister is just thrilled that we're doing this so enjoy students enjoy thank you for the opportunity for us to give back we really appreciate it thank you thank you and thank you [Applause] I did I did want to also just um acknowledge that uh Beth I'm gonna mispronounce this Rankin runchkin also made a lovely donation for athlete recovery to the girls varsity soccer team hmm so with that we need a motion for the Board of Education to approve the consent agenda as presented which includes the Personnel report appointment Administration transfer position classified leave of absence classified appointment classified the Personnel report retirement certified retirement is classified the financial Pages the student tour the acceptance of the donation in honor of Carol Berg from the Burke family and the acceptance of donation from Beth friendship so moved second Mike and Mike and Joanna Mike Davenport aye cons moving on to the recommendations and reports of the superintendent I'll turn it over to Gina for our annual curriculum proposals for knows we come to you every December with title changes for courses as well as new course proposals I'm very excited as Arwin said we have many Department chairs with us tonight thank you for being here and they have worked tirelessly on four new course proposals and three title changes so we'll begin with each set of Department chairs coming up talking about their title change or their new course when they finish with their explanation the board can then ask questions and we'll let that set of Department chairs leave and the next set will come up and we'll continue till we've gone through all seven okay all right so we are going to begin with um our CTE Department chairs Patrick farty who is our CT department chair at South High School and Brian Vite who is our new well newer he's been here since August first time before first time in front of the board and he is obviously from Downers North so I will turn it over to them all right good evening everyone we'll start again just uh have a chance to let my counterpart here introduce himself in front of everyone uh my name is Patrick farty I'm the CTE chair over at Downer South oh thank you uh my name is Brian fight and I am the CTE department chair at Downers north thank you so I thought to myself first like do I just let the new guy throw him under the bus did you tell him did you tell them did you tell them about the initiation that we did there's none of that okay so um we have had a we have a course name change from we're hoping for this next coming year um for the last I don't know how many years at this point it's been um our keyboarding classes we knew it was called keyboarding lunch because of just some things ever changes in the district and it ran during specifically just during the Lunch Period and it was would take up the students resource period so they'd go to their launch for half the period and then they'd spend the other half the period instead of going to Resource they would take keyboarding and it would be a year-long commitment for the student and they would get their credit for keyboarding um but things have changed recently uh students now are able to have full period lunches which is great um but so what that's one of the reasons that we decided to go back to the idea of making it a standalone class um but the other reason why the course name change is that we are fortunate enough moving forward from this year is that keyboarding is a dual credit option for students and which I always think is interesting I tell everyone that they always look at me and they say keyboarding you're getting dual credit for keyboarding says sure are um and so our students now have the option to get that dual credit through Cod um through keyboarding which then they can hopefully use as often those colleges that will accept it for your University as a general elective credit there and uh they the class at COD is called keyboard technology so we wanted to honor the fact that students would know what course that they were earning credit from from Cod and since we didn't weren't going to call it keyboarding lunch anymore we figured it would make sense that we would call it keyboarding technology pretty straightforward very good all right thank you thank you thank you both you're welcome we have two course title changes coming out of Fine Arts specifically in music and we have our South department chair Jerry Lowry here to speak to us about them hi everyone Jerry Lowry uh finance department chair at South before I actually get started on that I'm really glad that Mr Berg is here um the information that was sent to Omar was then forwarded to me and I think he's understating how incredibly generous this donation is I looked and I like scrolled and then like there's another page and then I scroll it was like you know like hundreds and hundreds of items and I sent a copy of the list to my art staff to just say like hey you know these things are possibly being donated and like the excitement and you know the just pure joy that our staff was feeling because of what they'd be offered to their offered their students as a result of your generation generosity can't be understated so I just wanted to personally thank you and I'm glad that you're here tonight so um but we do have two uh name changes uh requests and um these are all in reflection of a couple of just philosophical things we're trying to do district-wide in the Fine Arts and one of those things is making sure that our students find tangible career Pathways within the Fine Arts and the other thing is to work on what we perceive as an exclusivity that happens in the Fine Arts where like well if you didn't do band in fourth grade like if you didn't do Orchestra in fifth grade it's really hard to find your voice in the Fine Arts when you want to because of just the systems that have been in place for many many years so these two core course name changes are a result of that the first one is digital music we decided that you know digital music not only is it not like a really common course offering at the Collegiate level it's also not a career pathway that many people can identify with like I'm a digital musician like what is that so the idea was like what they're actually doing in the classroom is producing music and one of the career Pathways Pathways that the students can really relate to is music production and uh from a long-term standpoint like music production one I already know of many dual credit opportunities within like all of it Nazarene where like you can okay you can get credit for music production on that level so it really does open a ton of doors for our students to be able to explore a tangible career pathway in the Fine Arts through music production um none of the like the the actual like resources in the classroom change they'll still get their workstation with the full desktop the keyboard the headphones and the microphone but everything else just the actual approach of the class is about finding the career pathway in music production so that's that one any questions about the music production no makes a lot of sense very cool that's great awesome awesome the second one is uh there was a class that was out maybe I guess it hadn't run since like 2011 it was called the singer's lab and I think it was sort of um I actually I can't even speak on it because it's kind of third person knowledge so just know there was a class that hadn't run since 2011.

um they had a school board presentation with the new to work with Ohio State as a consultant so they made a presentation there I pulled this from a promotional again this was a vision that they had at that time in 1968 all schools had a potential to prepare students academically they also have facilities to encourage the spirit of individuality responsibility and remove restraints to learning which could slow or stop educational growth the development self-direction initiative and deciding one's own destiny cannot be met by curriculum alone the building program and faculty meet this important goal of Education that was 36 years between when that was written and when Brianna Ballard wrote that in the yearbook I thought that was really powerful that they had that vision and that's coming to fruition 36 years later um so this program when you stop to think about it especially if you're trying to schedule this they had 15-minute modules that they that they assigned you had 29 mods for the day some mods were some classes were two mods long so you had 30 minutes for class I talked to Danny Dixon about this he said 30 minutes but they took five minutes out for Passive here so you had 25 minutes for class on that part um but they have flexibility with that so some classes were five some classes were 250 on that that led to a six day and then a three day cycle three-day cycle happened quite a bit day one a day two and a day three science like that a lot because you have a day one in the classroom day two you could be in the larger black shirt day three you'd be in the lab and just a very like college-like feel to that piece so this this picture on the far left is a large groups large group room here's what was on the third floor those were the small group rooms that the students were in for three days for home room so you can imagine what that looked like so here is what Dr Conroe Ohio State called the air program action learning independent study interaction small group reaction larger group those three things kind of early precursor to udl in multiple means of Engagement you could look at it that way the big emphasis from teacher directed to students taking responsibility students owning their own learning students being architects of their own learning was a big key to this resource and laboratory became very important because that's where a lot of this independent study was taking place each department had its own resource on the second floor if we take a look at the far left that is wooden deck they are on top of the roof of East High School and they're with Mr Danny Dixon he was a student teacher at that time doing their math on the on the sun deck together um I know we couldn't get away with that these days but they did have a sun deck on the second floor and the third floor had a sun deck as well in the middle picture this young man was interested in math and science math and computers and so he is designed a computer game on it's a telephone with a modem hooked up and he's doing this during resource time it's on that part our science department chair Aaron Lanai is considering the same concept because there are so many certificates that students can get online now through computer science and worry about that resource time if we could have students working on certificates for different Computer Sciences during their resource so very soon what they're doing back in 72.

it happens every four years yes all right ladies if you'd raise your right hand and repeat after me I and state your name you solemnly swear you solemnly swear I will support the Constitution I will support the Constitution of the United States of America of the United States of America and the Constitution and laws the State of Arizona the State of Arizona very true faith and allegiance to the same they're in true faith and allegiance to the same defending them against all enemies defending them against all enemies foreign and domestic foreign Valley Unified School District for the Chino Valley Unified School District for the best of my ability to the best of my ability so help me God so help me God congratulations ladies foreign thank you Mr Carter thank you and thank you ladies and gentlemen for being here tonight okay I'd um story parts for activity for November 30th 2022 for staff and administration ladies and gentlemen for the month end of November 30th 2022 we're in the middle of the 22-23 year a big part of what we watch in the finance office is the percentage in the number of days that have gone by as of the end of November that's 42 of the days have gone by in the year so if we've already spent 50 or 60 or 70 percent of our operating budget at that point we we wouldn't like that our operating fund is 36 spent as a vending our Capital fund 22 spent so we've got reserves we've got encumbrances and all these things move along the expense chain if you will as the year goes by but we're in good shape that way the overall picture of our funds I'd like to just ask if there's any any questions then from the board on the first couple summary sheets to show cash expenses and those funds it looks really good I'd like to take just a second and draw your attention to this one page sheet to follow their cash funds it's in bold and it's vertical it's a portrait sheet and it starts with the cash fund balances starts with fund zero one zero and ends in fund 959 uh first one I like to draw your attention to is fun 500 School Plant and we've got the fortunate I guess you could say reality of having some cell phone towers that produce Revenue in the district and we use those revenues that they generate for a number of items so we went through this fund with our Auditors and we moved some funds in from 515 Civic Center so at 5 5 15 Civic Center has some expense there that expense and the revenue that we might have booked this year will all go to 500 School plan School plan is a fund that you would if you had old buildings your old equipment and you sold them those proceeds would go into school fund for 500 funded the way the Auditors are seeing it now and the auditor general is if we have these long-term leases they're actually leasing plant and equipment so the revenue should go on the 500 School platform so it's just a collapsing of 515 Civic as if we rented to uh PTA or a PTO or a booster club one night for a meeting those fees could go into 5 15 or 520 communities so we're just collapsing those into 500 that's the first fund the other one I'd like to take a little note at here is fun 665 Energy savings uh I think it was eight years ago we borrowed 775 000 and did two energy projects Honeywell and climatech and things like motion sensor lighting and automated services and the the idea was to get a rebate then from the federal government to put in one of these energy the last payment of those two there were two revenue and debt streams uh One is paid off in the 21 year one will be paid off in the 23 year and that those will go to zero we transfer money from our operating fund that's in our budget in there The Debt Service issue will be around ninety three thousand so you see that encumbered we will move those funds in and make that payment and 665 fund will not have no more activity until we do something else like that 691 fund and superintendent show mentioned some of the projects uh if the only the only column I think that's really relevant at this point is the fourth column over the encumbrance column 27.1 million and that's the poor HVAC projects the four Roofing rehab projects that are completely approved and on top of that we've got another five and a half million if you meet your projects and you look at the 400 000 now it's going to be approved hopefully this week for the rehabilitation of the whole gym and another hundred thousand rehabilitate the what I call the aplex the classrooms over here that had the fire and the flood so those projects are now not just 27 million 160 they're 27 million 261.

and um I have been trying to find a way what we had been trying to find ways to allow students to sing who made that may not enjoy the choir setting or may not enjoy performing publicly all like five times a year or ten times a year so or may not want the full setting they just want to individually sing or sing in small group or learn how to sing over you know produced music so the singer studio is now that um it is really literally I know I just walked through the Halls we all do when we hear kids that sing and it's like I love singing but I don't want to be choir so like what about singing and learning how to sing individually in different styles of music um you know rhythm and blues and pop and rock and things that they relate to and hear on the radio more day to day and the goal is that again we're just bringing as many kids to the Fine Arts whenever they're ready whenever they find a moment they need it okay this class is right now this is what I want to do um and then we may see increases in the choir program just through singers that have now found a little just yeah just a back road into it so um we're really excited about both of those course name changes and that's where they come from so um questions about any of those so this is multiple students though in the class not one student correct correct multiple students singing in multiple settings um and then you know sort of a big picture thing for me is music production and singer Studio collaborating on you know curricularly where the music producers are writing music and the singers and the singer Studio are performing them and then we are now we're talking music business there's so many different great things that can come of all that so but it starts with the name change it's really messaging right it's I mean it it says something about what you're wanting to accomplish in the class and if you don't have the right name you're not going to get students signing up yeah yeah that's really cool yeah yeah singers lab just always sounded kind of quirky to me so the singer studio is pretty cool so that was more today Thomas got to say I attended the concert sir it's Thursday and it was fabulous and I think there was a exhibit of the digital music right there was a component of the digital music what was really cool but I always love seeing that come together because it's all the things that I can't do second that yeah absolutely beautiful let's go into something like that yeah thank you very much thanks Jerry thank you okay all right thank you thank you thank you so those were the three name changes we'll now move to New course proposals the first one that's going to present is coming from our social studies department and we have our South department chair Chris Esposito and our North Department Junior Micro Center I knew there was no way tall guys with the mic stand no chance uh I'm Chris Esposito social studies chair at South um I'll start off by talking a little briefly about this new course that we're putting forward this is a course for our El Learners um the reason why we are putting this course forward is because we currently have Global Connections and U.S history for our El students however we don't have any place for our students those students to go junior senior year to fulfill the third year social studies requirement that we have to fulfill the new Civics requirement that the state put forth back in 2019 and to fulfill the consumer ad requirement so this is a course where we have an opportunity for kids now to be able to have the El supports that they need but also for you know their their entire requirements to be fulfilled in social studies with those supports so that's the idea behind it it's it's really straightforward in that way and Mike's going to talk a bit more about what this course is going to look like as he worked very closely with the team to develop the curriculum for it so again my name is Mike wilther I'm the social studies chair at North uh so the the course itself is is going to be set up so that the first semester is a sociology Focus uh the second semester would be a personal economics focus and then the Civics and current events will be embedded within both of the semesters um and so kind of how we will do that and one of the things one of the the Civics requirements is to have a service learning project so we'll put that with the sociology one where they're going to identify like a sociological issue and then do a service learning project to help mitigate that issue so they're kind of meeting together the sociology and the Civics another Civics requirement is to do research and so we're going to have students as they learn about different economic systems Democratic socialism mixed capitalism a more pure capitalism research countries that are choosing to then figure out what kind of economic system it is that they have um some other ways on the course itself I know the course description is pretty lengthy so just to kind of highlight some things in there so with personal economics the units we sort of hit on um will be how prices are determined so kind of melding that supply and demand part of Economics but then again mixing in the Civics so where the government gets involved in that so things like rent controls and minimum wages and the government what should their role be with that we'll do some budgeting we'll do some investing and we'll do a final unit in economics on really analyzing the role of the government and the economy and what should their role be in it with sociology we'll obviously talk a lot about socialization and then again we'll interweave the Civics since people are socialized by interest groups by political parties by the media and so we'll use those examples to kind of teach socialization um we talk about one of the one of the state standards in socialization is marginalization of groups and how does that happen and again we'll talk about how political structures can do that through with things like gerrymandering and the history of of those things so we'll really be an interweaving of those um those topics right so questions for us about the course are there several texts that you use um are there really no options for textbook um that we have for it because largely um it's going to be very current events based very current topic based and so we don't have an official textbook that we're going to really need for that and then really we've been stepping away from those anyways in our personal economics courses and sociology courses that we teach outside of the El world we really are have don't use the textbook much on those anyways we have enough resources developed to really kind of help the kids with um access the material without a textbook okay sounds very practical yes absolutely okay surprise this isn't a dual credit course not yet thank you thank you both thank you so the next new course is speech communication and we have our South English department chair Tracy Sebastian who will walk us through this course hi good evening um I'll speak for both schools there my kind of heart couldn't be here tonight um we want to offer a dual credit class most colleges require that a student take a composition 101 and a speech 101 for the most part um it's very rare that a college does not require that in some way and we had our speech coach at nor at South um Justin makovich was very interested in wanting to pursue a master's degree in speech so he worked actually through our ppls that we have for PD he actually worked with Cod to make sure that he was doing the exact things that they needed for him to do in order to get this certification so that we could offer this class to our students so we're very excited about that that he put in all that work and effort and he started this whole thing and we've been trying to figure out what what could we make as a dual Credit in English and we knew it was going to be one or the other and writing is a little more difficult and this is what he wanted to pursue so now that we have someone that we can actually teach the course we're now proposing the course so we did have two speech classes um originally in our curriculum so we had forensics and oral interpretation um neither one of them ran very consistently at either school they were sort of sporadic here and there so there was like a there'd be like eight or nine kids that signed up for it one time or it'd be like eight or nine kids forensics and eight or nine kids for oral interpretation we would always have to meld them so we are going to eliminate those two courses that we're not competing with each other on all these different same courses so if we're going to offer a dual credit speech by itself then we will eliminate the two courses that we have for forensic and oral interpretation now so that there's just the speech communication class the students interested in taking a speech class and we'll take the Dual credit option speech we do still have we have a course called I was just talking to counselors about this today we do have a course called writing for public speaking but that is a writing course so it counts as our writing class for seniors so speeches outside of the English Department credit so they'll still take four years of English full credit and then the speech class if they opt to take it would be an elective credit it's on top of taking the speech class so it could potentially take writing for public speaking and the speech class as well and get the dual credit plus their writing class as well and do similar things in the classes and the same teacher teaches it in the class there are three main summative speeches that the students will do so that everything in the class is geared towards making these three speeches so they do go through the entire oral communication process and from start to finish they actually talk a lot in the class too about not just giving a speech in front of people but like really taking into consideration who your audience is so they do talk about different cultures and the different ways that oral interpretations of speaking is like what what do you do when you're in this type of crowd or this type of culture and how do they interpret the way in which you speak so there's that is also incorporated into the class but for the three main speeches it's informative persuasive and then the third one they kind of allow for a lot of different things so students will actually get a big choice in what in all of their units and what they're going to do but in that third one they really it's just an occasion speech so it could be that you're standing in front of a board meeting and you have to give a speech it could be that you want to give a TED Talks there are a ton of different types of speeches they can give in that third one the first two are a little more traditional but there's always a component of research and talking about how do you choose the kind content how do you organize the content all of those will go into planning as well for those three main speeches but that's the main Hub of the class those three speeches that students will give in order to get their speech requirement out of the way for college so mostly Juniors or seniors Juniors or seniors yes yeah who else has time electives available yes yeah so fantastic yeah I think that the name is much better yes um you know really I mean I don't think anybody knew what forensic that forensics was a science class yeah so that was one of the problems that is the speech award that is given it is called the national speech award as a forensics I understand but once again and and your your messaging to the students and make it as clear as possible what they're getting into I think increases the chances that they'll get into it so and we are promoting it very much as though like they pretty much every College wants you to take this yeah for sure is it generally because I don't even remember in college but is it for speech is it two years just one I don't even remember you usually have to take one semester of a speech and one semester of a composition class is usually required almost every major okay so this would get that one semester out of the way for the three credit hours all right thank you thank you of course is one Wellness we have our PE health and driver education chairs with us tonight to share information about the course Courtney White who is our daughter department chair and Scott Lange from South hello we're really excited to be able to get to the point where we can present this we've actually been talking about this class for about five years a couple years before the pandemic and the pandemic put us on the back burner but also gave us an opportunity to kind of realize that technology has now caught up to us to allow us to be able to do this type of class so the class we've come up with is called Blended Wellness I mean it's a traditional PE class it's a semester-based course all of our customers and it's geared towards our Juniors and seniors and they need to finish their pe-1 pe2 sequence first before they before they have an opportunity to be able to enroll in this class the purpose or the role if you go back one more question oh sorry the role of this class is to kind of push on the focus that Fitness is and wellness is something that's personal and the supplements you get done when you can get it done and so we know our kids have heavily structured schedules and so hopefully this class will give an opportunity some of the students an opportunity to be able to focus on Wellness but also be able to have some time during their day too all right now you can go [Laughter] um that's a long drawn out description but basically the bulk of this class is going to be uh activity just like most of our physical education courses there will be a 150 minute um requirement of exercise that they have to get in each week and we are going to work on ways they will have to have a fitness tracker Fitness technology in order to take this class and that will be moderate to vigorous activities we're going to make sure that they have to not just go for a walk they have to actually do activity aside from the activity piece there is going to be a curriculum that the students will have to take care of that we will go through different concepts and things like that throughout the semester that they'll be quizzed on things like that and then uh we will also put in this Blended the teachers will also be meeting with these students throughout the semester individually um it's not just go off and do your workouts and we'll see you in five months that's not the way this class is going to work we're gonna we're gonna set up meeting with them on a regular basis probably every other week talk to the students make sure that they're getting their work done make sure that they're like any other class you know if we start seeing them fall behind we step in we can start working with them and figure out ways to get them caught up get them working through some problems so there will be that piece where we're still going to be meeting with the kids one-on-one so we're focusing on what type of kid would be beneficial in this class we have a lot of students that are I can imagine heavily structured in their schedule so we want to focus on those kids first a lot of those kids are also in our early bird class they're seven or eight classes they have a lot of AP classes and they're trying to squeeze certain things in those AP classes are typical Singletons so they're really kind of stuck in the periods they have the reluctance or the PE class hopefully this will give them opportunity to open up the schedule a little bit maybe take a launch which we highly recommend maybe take a study hall or possibly take another another class maybe one of the classes or colleagues are are presenting but this is the the type of student we're really focusing on uh talking to our colleagues in the area that have also started this class there are certain students that really struggle in this type of class we want to try and stay away or keep those students away from this those are the ones that generally have the low executive functioning skills that don't have a lot of time management skills they tend to not do very well in this class according to our colleagues in the area so you really want to try and stay away from them but keep those kids that really have a really good executive executive functioning skills to be able to get in this class you can probably just start off and go on their own with a little bit of guidance from us as Scott said and still be successful and do some of the work that we're doing online um right now we're going to meet with the kids in person the first week of semester in the last week of the semester we're going to set the class up we're going to do the course expectations we're going to give out the equipment we're going to let them know here's how it works and then we're going to be checking in every other week as Scott said and at the end of the semester we're going to come back in and check in but that's gonna be there during zero hour because the expectation is that they don't have a class during the day so the only time we're really going to be able to meet all of them together uh so that that would be our goal uh if they have an alternative situation we're working with our counselors to figure out if this class will be beneficial for a student for instance if there's a student has an SEL situation or they have a lot of specialty classes that they can't get into they can't get into a p-class we'll have that conversation with the counselors about whether or not this cost is beneficial for that type of student questions this is very cool because adults don't do team sports I mean this is great how about you work with students who have chronic illnesses like diabetes we're still working on the curriculum however I have Vision that can be one of our our discussions one of the best things for diabetics is actually exercise and now we have to learn how to modify exercise support with diabetic that's something we can research and study without calling a student out clearly the condition but we're still creating the other curriculum that's one thing that we can talk about and look at at modifications because they can still have a doctor's note saying that I need these modifications and that's not a problem for us at all because the technology will allow us to do that so this will satisfy a PE credit do you see this as a good option for some of our athletes it could be uh but that wasn't the student that we were we were targeting uh we have we have classes out there for our athletes that are that are um geared towards our athletes we're really looking for those high flyer kids that really need to break in their day and talking to a lot of the varsity coaches and stuff there's several of them that really like the kids to be taking the weight training classes right things like that now is the the certain group out there absolutely sure we're not going to say no to them absolutely yeah um how are you going to Target certain students how do you know that certain students in their executive functioning won't you know how do you know the student well enough it seems like there's going to have to be a lot of communication with the counseling staff right there um like I said in talking with the districts that are running this right now we will have to work hand in hand with our counseling staff they know the students the best on their course loads and uh and they'll be able to tell us with kids we think will be able to successfully manage through this class and we both just finished having our meetings with our counselors for the pre-registration process and we've it was a good hour for for my meeting at the private property Central Scott and we said these are the type of students that are going to be successful and these are the ones that won't be successful please work with us and try and find which one of those students should and should not be recommended for this course you have something we're very they were like oh yeah I know exactly which kids in my case will be able to handle this and this would be perfect for them so could there be something built into the curriculum where you're early on identifying if somebody gets in there who shouldn't be in there that there's a way to make a change um before that there's there's a lot of problems yes I mean those those weekly meetings we're gonna be meeting with kids every every week we'll find out the same kid every other week most likely there's gonna be about 40 kids there so as we're the Technic the technology that we have is it allows us to see everything they've done on a weekly basis and so I can reach out to whatever student and say hey you're you're falling behind we need to meet either before school get on the zoom call after school whatever the areas are that we can meet uh to try and get them caught up you said you're still working on the curriculum so yes so I mean how far along are you in here proposing a lot of ideas um from the Glen bars are running a class like this the naperville's are running a class like this Addison Trail Willowbrook is running a class like this so we've got a lot of ideas it's not going to be hard for us to put together the curriculum and the concepts that we're going to be going over in the class the bulk of it's going to be around the fitness piece but we're going to put in Concepts about Fitness Nutrition sleep deprivation things like that that we're going to talk about in the class I think it's fitting a need my question is okay if you can service and see Nancy mentioned diabetes will it give you guys the autonomy to have different paths for this meeting I won't call it custom but yeah absolutely yeah it's everybody's going to have different paths and different ways they want to work out things like that and that's going to be our job is to work with those students and and learn them and and be able to help them through this yeah one of the things we really push is Fitness is personal and granted I'm not the type of person to work out in the morning so I can understand my students don't want to come at eight o'clock and start moving around I get it but I'm also not at eight o'clock at night time of course neither but somebody might be I've had students in class that I spoke with and I've written loads of recommendations for Chris um that really gotten into it and it's a very hurtful thing we want to try and push that I think it's really a it's it's something that is definitely going to carry forward because a lot of employers now are are bringing this into focus and focus you know helping employees with you know whether it's a calm app or any you know we're doing any type of fitness and making sure that it's part of your day like you said whether it's whether you're morning lunchtime evening you know just recognizing the overall Wellness benefit the wellness is the bigger part of them yeah yeah okay thank you thank you both thank you ah and then our final proposal is for Earth and space science we have our department chairs here to walk us through it Karen Etter from Downer South and Mike Hines from Downers North and certainly this has been something that I know they've been working on for several years so very exciting to be at this this phase 12.

the last picture I disliked because she's very comfortable doing her independent study on the resource floor so what's the impact what has this done for us again coming through those circumstances um a sense of unity a can-do attitude that's what our staff is today they work very hard they work support all the students we have a very great culture you've got to be very flexible to teach at East if you look at how this whole started the whole thing started you have to be very flexible be teaching East with situations that they had developing there we look lots of creative ways to support all of our students Chuck Rhymes an educator writer had a lot of respect for was working as a casa volunteer with one of our families and he noted all the things that our staff were doing to support students and he made the comments something along the lines if you can't graduate East you're not going to graduate from anywhere due to the efforts they saw on our staff now are we perfect there's no way I can give you names of students right now who we can't engage and they're not going to get a diploma okay but we're working hard to get all those kids here at East High School and it came from that first group of Educators at East High School another way that our East staff has stepped out of the comfort zone Mr Jensen gave under his leadership we're looking for a different way for students to show what they can know and learn and demonstrate an authentic Manner and so they went out the East Coast into the west coast and came back with a senior project model we're now our 24th year of the senior projects that's impacted hundreds of kids on their own career along within the community lots of impact senior projects here our own community demographics obviously have changed with the community and over the years Hispanic Latino group is growing the fastest for us that's a challenge for us our level ones have gone from 15 to over 32 now and so how do we meet the challenge of supporting a student who has minimal English again our staff is reaching enough for that challenge stepping up that challenge to support all the students that walk through our door so again relationships were big back then relationships are big today for East High School another part of the impact with that flexible modular program design they gave lots of autonomy to students we do the same thing today to the Eddies we treat them as young adults give them much more trust and freedom than most schools do um students have a choice which resource to attend to get help and that's one way we do it what's come out of this uh culture our academic team has been the most successful okay over the since 2014 state championships Mr Greg Lewis is our lead academic coach and he was also academic coach of the year for the state of Indiana you've got students earn lots of college credits and lots of scholarship money every year we've got students who are on track to graduate who are heading to track graduate and so they'll work their schedule so they've got afternoons off and then go work in the community so again all this started back with those group of teachers and when I talked to Mr Dixon he said we were very young we were very young and stepped into that and so we owe our current culture with young Educators who are willing to step out of their comfort zones into the unknown of a new unfinished building coupled with a radical modular learning program that focused on the students as architects of their own learning and so we're really grateful for the culture that they established 50 years ago and Lori has worked on a lot of then and now which I thought is very interesting so I'm going to turn over to her at this point I started working at East last school year and when I was out on the roof inspecting a few things somebody told me that there was a sun deck where they held class and I thought it was a joke working on this project and saw the photos I was like Wow East has been a very welcoming campus and I knew that from day one when I stepped foot on there and just getting to know the faculty and the students has been just a pure joy and going back through the albums and hearing testimonies from former students as well as former employees at East High School just talking about the culture it is truly a heartbeat that has continued over these last 50 years so when the building was first opened as you heard from Mr Newell a lot of the facilities were not complete and so the students and faculty had to make do and be proactive and think outside of the box for example the PE and physical education classes they didn't have a gym so they use the Campus Commons as a place to have their class and they had dance lessons ping pong tables set up and even a trampoline in the Commons where they would have their physical activity classes now the Campus Commons is still a place where we express creativity unifying our student body for example our English classes hold Shakespeare performances our care our choir do care Christmas caroling we have the art Bowl and we also conduct the traditional paper toss with our seniors every year at East high schools supporting creativity individuality and artistic expression are essential components of the East High School's culture then when the school first opened students were introduced to a variety of visual art programs such as Pottery weaving and print making the choir while they held classes in the stairways to rehearse they consisted of 15 girls in their swing choir they had their performance in February through March and May and because choir Halls were incomplete they rehearsed in the stairways the band had a nickname called mob marching Olympian band now we are providing I have a very large visual arts program that includes 2D 3D art and photography many of our students are recognized annually in the Scholastic Visual Arts competition as well as showing in local art exhibits including in Nashville our East choir program has grown into three competitive choirs they're award-winning and we have over 110 students performing in our choir program and the band as another example is a combined band now of north and east and they have a Competitive Edge this year they moved up to the Grand Nationals bands of America competition which is a real big competition throughout the nation another way that our East culture continues to shine and grow and in keeping our students engaged our our student clubs and organizations then they had a Spanish club a chess club student assembly office Education Association Humane Society Deca and a sunshine Society now this is just a sample of all the clubs and organizations that we have we provide a wide variety of organizations meeting all different student needs and special interests as well as demographics we have a growing Multicultural Club our HOSA health science programs continue to flourish we have a key club that does a lot of community service where our weight lifting Club is continuing to grow and talking about health and fitness and just today somebody presented to Mr Noel about having a happiness club and so that kind of connects with like the sunshine society that used to be there um so this is just a sample of ways that our our culture continues to shine and grow and how we continue to engage students in our campus questions from the board at this time I thought it was interesting Mr Noodle to see Danny Dixon and student teaching I then taught student taught under Mr Dixon yeah in math some years after that a pair of shoes like that I did not have a pair of shoes I'm curious if you could talk a little bit about how over the years I know sometimes we move best practices from one place of the corporation to the other as things have moved back and forth ideas and Concepts and techniques from east to North or even to uh new tech do any stick out for you as something that you're really proud of that started at East that's now implemented somewhere else or vice versa something I think senior projects will come to mind immediately is that he's part of the senior projects and then that has flowed out to the other schools in senior projects it sounded like go all the way back to the beginning of the building no that was in 20 it's been 24 years ago is when we started senior projects thank you I'd say it's nice to see the evolution you know over time and it was a Showcase of what I would say creativity and inclusion and there are lots of examples of that then and now a culture can be fragile though sometimes and so what what do you feel like has been the key of keeping some of those old core beliefs and things in place so many years later through pandemics and technology and all of the things that can kind of draw us away from some of those important aspects I think it's the students I really do I think the students some I just keeps like transferring from student to students the years through I mean when I first went in the east as math department first I went to East I was at Northeast math and I went over there for textbook adoption I was like this is really different I was up on the resource floor on that and then I was fortunate to be a math department chair and just how the students created you and talk to you it's just a very very mature feel to the building and I think the students have helped carry that along with the leadership of the adults in the building foreign but I have a comment thanks for taking us back I'm a graduate of Columbus East High School I remember the six the the mods I remember going out and working in the afternoon I was part of the office Education Association so it wasn't back in 1972 but a little later than that but um I I've always been um I've always had a special place for Columbus East High School since I am a graduate there so I think that I think I love that you showed that then and now pictures that was great but um I really do think from like I guess I'm going to kind of build on a little bit maybe what uh maybe Dr Stenner and or Mr stunner and Miss wielton ask is are I know they don't have the Six Day schedule anymore but what are some things that you that you feel like you've improved or changed over the years since the early days so when I look at that and when I talk to some other folks that early model was really good for the students who were really motivated but the students who needed more support it wasn't as good a system on that and so that's why you seem more structured when you come into places support all the students and the piece I think that's probably the evolution that we've seen through the years is how do we get support for those students who aren't being successful in this model and at the same time don't take away the students are doing fine with that that freedom and responsibility don't take that away from them but how do you bring in the more support for the kids who aren't being successful in that model and I think that's what we've been working towards thanks I was going to ask I'm curious what you look for or what your special question is when you're hiring a new teacher for East I forgot to say in my in my Spiel there but one of the questions we ask is how good are you living in the world of Gray you know can you can we explain to what this is what this is what it means there's no Black and Whites here are you good with gray and having some some mixed things there and it's not cut out and dried and then um another question always like does fair mean equal and just add them straight up do the how burst are they in equity and that we always have that classic example of their standing in the Outfield and they need to look over the fence you've got some kid staying on a ladder a box another person's telling a steer the fence you know does fair mean equal no fair does not mean equal fair means every student get what they need to be successful so those are two questions that we always look for okay thank you there are other questions yeah yes yeah I don't have a question I've just got a couple comments and just wanted to thank you too for sharing about the rather unique culture that exists at Easton and sharing the history lesson of East 50 year history it's it's kind of cool to look back at some of the old pictures and see how things work but I also wanted to just say that I I you know really appreciate the forward thinking that goes on at the East and at least in my opinion while the Forward Thinking goes on you're still able to manage to hold on to some of that old-school approach with a particular emphasis on I think relationships and and responsibility and I particularly like what you said there Mr Newell at the end about uh you know asking prospective teachers about how well you know they might exist in a world of gray and I I think that's very important so thank you but both very much ahead thank you it was lovely foreign agenda are opportunities for board commendations so I'll turn to colleagues I know Mr Grimes will have some you need to speak all right well I'll go I'll try to get through these quick I'll start with a couple that I sat on from our last meeting um for the sake of time but uh so I'll start with some comments from Mrs sprawl the principal at Mount Healthy who we heard a presentation from at our last board meeting about their intentional efforts this year to include uh parents and families at their school and Mrs sprong just wanted me to pass on publicly accommodations to the office staff the classified staff and the teachers at Mount Healthy all for their uh dedication and going overboard making field you know students parents feel welcome and you know showing students sincerely how much they they care about kids on a daily basis and also Mr sprung wanted me to share specifically Mount healthy's day shift custodian Ryan Carter who she had Oodles of compliments for said he goes out of his way to Mentor students in their school job each day never complains responds quickly to the various demands of his job on a daily basis so thank you to all those the staff and uh students of Mount Healthy next Mr Gable the CVP director Columbus virtual pathway wanted me to share a couple things accommodations to Mrs Caruso and Mrs Terry who took a small group of students from CVP to the Indiana Historical Society where they were able to visit the exhibit on documents that shaped American history also accommodations to miss Rydell who has worked hard to have various in-person experiences for elementary age kids at CVP this year so even though it's Columbus virtual pathway the importance of occasionally meeting in person with peers and and getting out out of the you know the four walls of I guess this case their bedroom living room wherever they're learning and experience in the world is very important um also Mr Newell um we just heard from from East wanted me to share a couple of accommodations the two Bartholomew County winners of the Lilly scholarship this year are both from Columbus East seniors Ariana Simpson and Hallie Randall congratulations to them and Mr Newell said it was great to surprise him with a room full of family friends in the Lily committee it was very heartwarming to see the opportunities opened up for them through this scholarship and then also for Mr Newell e senior Sage Saul who's headed to Indiana State on a basketball scholarship next year just recently named district District 3 girls basketball player of the week by the Indiana high school basketball coaches association and what Mr Newell had to say about Sage is that she's a quality person both on and off the court and when he sent me the email he had just come from the math resource where Sage was tutoring appear in math during their advisory time again one of those uh unique things about East the next two accommodations I want to share I think are exceptional and I think they're ones that can real easily fly under the radar at times they're sports related but yet they're much larger than that the first goes to the Columbus North boys basketball team and uh and their coach Paul Ferguson on receiving an exemplary behavior report following a recent victory at Seymour and part of the official Tim Cody's report to the ihsa read and I want to read it it says I wanted to acknowledge the coach staff and players for their outstanding sportsmanship I've had coach Ferguson a couple times in part in the past and he always asked questions in a professional respectful Manner and focuses his attention on coaching his players the players exhibited polite respectful conversation and handed the ball to the officials every time I admire the way coach Ferguson his players and staff conduct themselves and then nextly along the same lines if I can find it sorry goes to Columbus East girls basketball team and their Coach Danny Brown who also received an exemplary behavior report following their game against Brownstown November 22nd and Joshua's fear is the one of the games officials he wrote the entire Columbus East girls basketball team exhibited the epitome of sportsmanship the players always offered a hand to help out a fallen opposing player always thank the officials every time they were handed the ball and treated every participant with the utmost respect if all teams behaved in this manner there would not be a lack of officials Columbus East girls basketball program represents everything that should be represented in Scholastic Athletics and they bring great credit to their school and community so thank you very much to those those teams um next the Columbus North Beta Club which I was unfamiliar with the assistant principal at North Jennifer Hester uh shared with me that the Beta Club is focused on academic achievement and character building and students meet regularly as a club to prepare for competition in their areas of passion and so congratulations to seven students who were recently first place in their state competition one second place one third place sponsored by Robin crew and it's just a plethora of academic subjects that they compete in everything from science to speech to painting to drawing to biomedical Health Sciences and everything in between um uh three more quickies my family and I had the opportunity to go see elf yesterday at North so just commendations to all that the cast and crew and everybody else who was involved on putting putting on such a good show and then um accommodations to Mary Hamlin uh Mrs day off Dwyer mentioned her earlier the bcsc transaction transition coordinator who recently received the Arc of Indiana's Champion award the award recognizes an individual organization or business who makes a positive impact in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities Mary was chosen for her many years of hard work and dedication to Bartholomew County Special Education efforts as well as their work in spearheading the start of the Empower program and then lastly accommodations to Dr Roberts who at the recent Indiana Association of public school superintendent's annual meeting was given the uh was awarded with the Indiana edtech Trailblazer award and the award honors the Indiana and Indiana superintendent or assistant superintendent has promoted who has promoted and supported Innovative uses of technology in their district and Dr Roberts just a note that Dr Roberts was was rather quick to deflect credit to Nick Williams and his uh technology team and all their hard hard work in in regards to technology throughout the district so that I believe concludes it thank you thank you Mr Grimes are there others I I would like to commend the team who put together the formal at East this weekend I had a participant she had an amazing time and I can't imagine the amount of work that goes in to putting something like that together for all those high schoolers did a really great job all right thank you so much others I'll just yeah add on to what Mr Grimes was saying about technology is apparent I've seen technology improve with the way that things come home and the newest version parent square is pretty amazing so congratulations to the people that picked that out implemented it and keep it up and running thank you awesome all right we'll move on we don't have anyone that is signed up for public comments so now's an opportunity for colleagues to share reports our committees our work that they've been doing in the name of our Corporation thank you okay go for it thank you doctor so I've got three uh Street thanks here um one is a high ability stakeholder team uh just met on November 21st where we reviewed and discussed um the current counseling guidance plan for the high ability program and and you know changes considerations to make moving forward and just uh I wanted to make special mention um of a senior at Columbus North Isha Eris who has been with us at each of our monthly meetings evening meetings and has provided uh endless valuable input from her perspective as a student regarding the program and then we will meet again the high ability team we'll meet again this Thursday night when our topic of discussion will be professional development moving forward secondly the school Foundation Saturday put on cookies with Santa event um I had the opportunity to take three of our grandsons and I know they had fun getting pictures with Santa and coloring pictures and decorating cookies but there was a rush at eight o'clock as the doors opened and it was a pretty steady steam of bcsc families uh throughout the morning until 11 o'clock when the festivities concluded it's a little ways off but it'll be here before we know it the Harlem Wizards game which is the foundation's biggest fundraiser of the year has been set for Sunday March 5 at 2 o'clock I still need a lot of volunteers for that event and anybody who's interested in considering that can email the foundation directly executive director of the foundation Nicole Cunningham would like me to also report that the foundation is still very gladly accepting any end of the year donations that may come forward that will be used primarily to fund lightning grants and last one I was able to to attend a webinar on December 8th that was jointly put on by Indiana Association of public school superintendents and the Indiana Urban School Association of which bcsc is part of the 35 largest school districts in Indiana it was a essentially a brief presentation on the legislative priorities as we head into this upcoming session of the general assembly that's set to convene on January 9th and conclude by April 29 I'm sure there will be oodles and bills that will be released by the last of this month the first of next month December 15th Thursday fingers crossed we get to hear a revenue forecast for the next biennium and again fingers crossed that that is deliver some good news and just a few other items highlights that are priorities for both is PA and iusa heading into this next general assembly session currently most school districts across the state are spending four more far more dollars on edge special education than they're receiving and so isba will be certainly advocating for increased special education money in order for those programs to be fully funded they'll continue a push to increase the tuition support at a percentage that at least matches the rate of inflation isba is going to push to bring back a mentor program that existed a ways back that would help approximately 3 000 new teachers in Indiana each year by providing them a mentor and hopefully giving them the support that they may need in order to help the retention rate and encourage newbies if you will to stay in the profession you know that would be a thousand dollar stipend for mentors for a total of three million a year and then uh lastly the Family Social Services Administration their data set as compared to the Indiana Department of Education data set there's going to be increased efforts to make sure those Jive if you will and they share common unique identifiers to facilitate the matching of students as identified in the current complexity index because as things currently stand tens of thousands of students across Indiana are not being correctly identified consequently School corporations are not getting the funding that they otherwise would get at nearly four thousand dollars per student each year and that's probably again primarily affects the 35 largest school corporations in Indiana bcsc being one of those and then last thing the isba does plan to acknowledge the general assembly's efforts in the last two biennia in in terms of their help to help boost the state tuition support thank you thank you very much others the education Hall of Fame committee met at the end of November and we have um reviewed all the nominations and this year we'll be presenting to education Hall of Famers and that will happen in early 2024.

and if you hold it next to the draft timeline that I have provided you you notice that the key difference is the two-month uh starting component starting two months later by some by compressing some things in the schedule however we end up about three weeks off meaning the uh the date to appoint a superintendent instead of being March 30th would be April 24th um but within that time frame we would be able to accomplish everything within the uh the scope that the RFP included um so today would start us off December 12th with a with an overview of the process now some things that have changed dramatically since 2014 are the in-person focus groups mostly because of the pandemic and the consequences of of that however we still do offer them and would be willing to to uh to do those as well but we have our experience has found that we get way more participation in the online survey component um and I'll get to the survey in a little bit as well um on average focus groups generate about 45 to 50 people in attendance and that's including uh normal like when I came in 2014 I went to every single building met with staff when we had an opportunity to meet with staff I had one for parents I went to town hall and they went to Bush Street the street Bush Lane the street and you know the average in attendance was probably eight or nine people in each of those groups and I think the parent one there was two I'd have to go back to be more definitive but it was about 55 60 people total however there were 200 people that participated on the online survey 296 I believe um the last superintendent search I did which was in Sandwich there were 700 people that participated in the online survey and they didn't even do in they didn't want in-person focus groups because it was still too close it was 2021 it was still too close to the 2020 pandemic so that was a that was a factor I'm not ruling them out um uh I'll never say no if if you want me to do them it's just simply a matter of scheduling them um considering the difference in start time being October rather than December and then according to the RFP the ability to have someone here for July 1 and you wanting to make that appointment 60 to 90 days before before that start date and I understand the reason for that is because people have to if if it's a sitting administrator they have to give notice to the district that they're leaving and their contract would specify a specific time frame that averages between 60 and 90 days some are 120 days but you won't know the specifics of that until you actually offer the job to someone and find out what their individual contract so we just try to budget it budget that time the best we can so this this outline takes us every through everything from putting the initial uh brochure together the announcement of the vacancy which is all predominantly done online and in in-kind contributions um masc belongs to three online networks of which we host or allow them to post vacancies on our website and they allow us to put vacancies on their website many of the two of those are national uh Publications but predominantly when people are looking for superintendencies here in Massachusetts they look at our website and they look at the superintendent's website you wanted to do paid advertising the only one I would recommend weeks to be able to only be the online the Boston Globe online never had a candidate in 20 almost 27 years of doing superintendent searches I've never had a candle they tell me the only place it's not a knock against the globe it's just going to be saturate the market in addition there's about 3 300 letters and emails that go up to all the city superintendents in Massachusetts in New England assistant superintendents as well as the placement offices of the universities programs in educational Administration so between the direct mail the online advertising and posting we pretty much cover the blanket all of the areas where technical difficulties being in the old days would show up on the screen um so that would cover the the advertising component of that at this moment no cost to the district for that um the brochure layout again we do that in-house so again it would only be if we had to you know the ones we have to print to include in the direct mailing but if you look at our website they're all in online formats the application forms are online formats where people can fill them out online they're like smart forms online so it really kind of cuts down postage expense for you and everything else but we do do some so I'm just making you aware of that and that cost was inside the uh the quote the cost proposal um I've noted the two school vacation weeks in my calendar simply because they're there and we have to acknowledge them and we really can't schedule things during those those two weeks [Music] hear me you can't really oh that one's on now hello okay um so um in in addition to uh that component of it I've set up the time frames where there are certain things that you as a committee have to have to do the major one being putting together if you if I'm assuming you're using one because it was in the RFP search committee screening committee whatever label you want to put on it the search committee Mr Keely was on it last time um but it was it had some you know it had a mix of people had parents had teachers administrators central office staff um it was about 11 13 11 13.

so so pushing 28 million for the for the year they won't all be done this year by June 30th some of them the HVAC installation I imagine will go into the 23-24 year and 959 fund we've got a we've got a transition program there a high school we've had some turnover at DES but those numbers will come right we haven't been able to put many expenses in there we've reimbursed from the Department of Economic Security so there's not much going on there we're waiting for several payments so you will see 959 show more expense when we've had expense in there and more revenue and you'll see more any questions on the cash flow balances these we watch really closely because if we try to do an expense here we don't have to cash the county says no so there's not a budget like our operating fund has a budget a capital fund has a budget once they approve the budget you can overstep the cash but not in these funds you have to be very sensitive to the cash to keep us from from harm or danger of overexpense and that's all I have for the month it's good my questions are coming up okay okay Student Activity fund Freeport then Mr Livingston yes Student Activity we see the student council in encumbered 3 300 I've talked to their advisor several times they've got spring dances they've got fundraisers going on left and right any questions on that I can I can get back to you but they're the busiest one by far on the Student Activity accounts okay now there's my question John all of a sudden I notice we have several lines here with no entries in them uh cash balance Revenue expenses and so forth what's happened since last time these were not empty last time so so I think what we're seeing then is the encumbrances would go down and the expenses would go up and then that's what you're seeing I can get back to this program I think that's not what you know look at the National Honor Society for example because I question that uh a little about a while back and it simply shows no cash balance form in addition to no expenses and so forth what happened to that money in a second so we're talking about 10 from the bottom cvhs NHS yeah yeah the uh the one right before that yeah cbhs National Honor Society I believe those are inactive clubs right now so when you look at um the national Arts Honor Society is this kicking back up with the new instructor it's gonna they're moving forward but it hasn't been active in the past um the Honors Academy Club the FCA which is um Christian athletes yeah Fellowship of Christian athletes these are Club these are activities that aren't active even though they may have an account they are either inactive or are becoming active and just um don't have any activity in the Kirkland was surprised like the yearbook Club but I'm not sure what a yearbook Club is other than the group that produces yearbook uh real the first one there yeah I think what we're also seeing there is a typical program let's take uh one of them on here like high school football they've already got a donations fund they've already got a tax credit fund they've already got an auxiliary fund and then we look at what they have here they've got forty five hundred dollars to start and there's no activity they started the year 2500 right now they have 4 500.
