so what they're asking is if there's interests if you have an agreement that we continue to fund and leave 712 at Wilson in place for the 2324 knowing that's probably 425 doesn't feel like so that was a quest I'm not sure I think whether we have consensus or there's a motion I think their pride needs to be discussion because really we can't do a lot of action until District says yeah we were interested in wanting to do this sit down and come to an agreement and if both boards agree there's a sign agreement they would go to the State Board of Education for approval to get it on the April board meeting this would have to be done in about the next two weeks so the April State yes April State Board of Education week the reason I state that is to get into pay now you're getting into the intimate to your contract period and continue the contracts so there's a couple people here that they're those two on that committee for questions discussion I think once the group had discussed decide of where we want we want to go on this situation the only thing I ask is champ for a long surpassing capacity because that's really the appropriate that's not fair students parents staff once you get into that later deal so so the question is if there's an interest we had an agreement we had a State Board of Education the board would consider continuing seven through twelve at Wilson for the next school year knowing that the land transfer 24-25 school year did you had conversations with anybody at the state that they might be willing since it's after the date they would consider helper to be into the first this year for next year and yeah the reason for that is number one we gave a gift of the April before I begin probably after the board and usually they have to get information to the counties so that we can figure out assessments would get rid of your budgets again assessments valuation on Twitter they want to give the County's a chance to get back so the discussion then tonight has been to delay the closing of 7 12 for a year to get the Wilson Community opportunities to find a district that you might be willing to do a land Trend right right kind of looking at that and you know again we talked talked with the ones that are presenting tonight you know help them think we'll have conversations tomorrow so I've expressed to you trying to learn about this and put it do it take action as quickly as possible so just for the record some thoughts that have expressed um you know we're not we're not trying to see it in the way as a school board would definitely not for anything in the way of um what the communities would like to do can't you say that again we're not trying to stand in the way of what I was trying to do because we do understand some of this difficulties and challenges that this large District in the large land mass es and we don't deny that I don't deny that um so as far as that goes I'm interested to hear what other school board and other school board is interested you know we're open to those discussions but thank Mr Robert and stated we definitely don't want to for a long distress and anxiety in in order to play in and prepare for next year when the teachers and the students and staff and parents and everybody involved I think their world definitely need to be a deadline and we can have conversation tonight and discussion and if you have specific questions for Jacob or any of the meeting members that are discussing with those other districts but I do think you know if we hear from the other districts tomorrow or anything that you might be something that we also a lot on any particular motion and may need to discuss further in this special meeting I mean as a district but I mean I think what the only thing would really by postponing and waiting to see what these other districts interest is the only thing that we're really risking there is you know a month of the administration getting ready for the food I don't think it's it's I don't think that month is going to be so drastic that we can completely interested do you have any specifics or anything you can talk uh I know that we've got representation at Ellsworth tonight Natoma numbers are supposed to be taken to someone and one proposal districts as well as another option that came up but potential there was some interest from the potentially from the Diocese of Salina possibly looking to a Christian School so uh really going to come to brings up one question answer to that if the insurance group if the diocese is the area to go with that potentially delay that everything is a potentially the same type of transfer inside of both districts another state of your District so but I don't know if anyone has that answer John does transfer land to the past as well I don't know not so much for tax purposes but as far as like the facilities and anything that would go physically building the school president property and all that so you can you can abandon the facilities District oh by the Kansas Department of Education to the city and then the city would transfer to the Texas you can you can close facilities and certainly selling just like the information oh that's just an entity that I choices so I think if they're getting out to quite a few people tonight because they're eating some stuff probably before tell them I don't know he disappears that way uh like that at this time we don't really have enough information to say sorry but if we get the information back see the need for a special meeting yeah that's good my community at this time it only consensus that we can do at this point is to say that we're not going to see it in a way that we need to entertain any communication within the district people for work to get this process coming up with an agreement so that kind of a special meeting said it you know to teach Court because that's the first process each board's gonna have to agree on the same agreement a good deal I have an experienced person that has been experience and so it kind of helps through that job with this area so this is expertise so I guess there's kind of the point of this agenda item would be twofold is one to collect the administration now like you know we need to slow down and see how this goes to to kind of consensus of this board of would we entertain the land transfer you know the answer is no if we as important entertainment management delaying anything so I mean that's kind of twofold not necessarily uh hey we can do it but at least an entertaining of that's that's the question right there to give another District if there is another District heads up say chances are consensus that you would do a land transfer because the consensus is not to do about transfers and we're wasting more time I don't think we've ever said that but I'm not saying anything I'm just saying that's what we're talking about tonight I don't think you have as well to have Patriots I'm not sure I'm not sure the question well this is stating without land transfer keeping the K through twiddled for this elbow I mean you have a k through six and still totally interested if you still have an interest in the district and proceed on correct which is smokers our students are still like this first right your students are coming through a bailsworth or here they haven't told them or the president or home school ing just not and that and that's that's the concern and then foreign I'm not sure what you're talking about but we're trying to keep the community together the students together so if nothing happens and in 712 closes or it's closed and those students will splinter and then if maybe you can tell me if I'm wrong if you're suggesting that maybe a year from now a land transfer it becomes possible our 712 students have already gone off to wherever they're gone to get them back but yes tiger you know but even if we agree upon hey let's go ahead and proceed with land transfer it's not a guarantee that the land transfer is going to go through and then 23-24 at the end of 24 school year we're back to stage one well I doubt that yeah it could happen but I it has to go through the whole agreement between districts and then back into the states and the state house is still okay just so that this is I don't think our students education could afford just like decision six months and we need to know what the interest is and if there is the state has thoughts decided States of talk to people uh ksde and so forth even the statute kind of indicates that vote for to agree and there's no compliance issues there's a very good chance of state board today I guess that's where I'm hanging out you know at some point there's an interest to speak to our advantage to produce up to expedite as quickly as possible so something to go through because startup next school year they've been transfer yeah we cannot transfer until the 24-25 because the deadline for 23 24 school it's already passed but you could go ahead and apply early again that's the reason the deadline actually they're like and we can talk about that being here really understands that she's the benefit of everybody and if there was interesting who makes the decisions on it so everything am I correct whatever the committee is that kind of um is that correct for real for expecting yeah and basically we're just asking for you to fund the school the 7 through 12 for one letter that I mean if like you said if the students um if we don't have the school and we still can transfer but it's going to be harder for the students to transition I think into a new basically American District without having the school um I think if you gave them you know that one year where they still have that school it's going to be easier for them to turn position and turn into a new District whether they came through travel stays open after that when we go to City District and that's all up to you know agreements and negotiations that haven't been but um all our dating is one more year to get this finalized what year did after that we know we know if it doesn't happen then happy in the next year stay closest whether we have transferred or not we know this we just we have these opportunities we need to at least try it and that's where we're at and we did talk to our representative Mr Dennis um today I hope you have talked with him and we will be CNN tomorrow we're speaking public information and his request from him today was he prefers a land transfer so he's on board I'm trying to say they've worked out he encouraged us to talk to him tomorrow I said that'd be the quickest and easiest way to get things done they represented for the states yes so we are going to try to bring in some information tomorrow if it's possible he knows that we were meeting tonight with the different boards he knows that you know you guys had it on the agenda for tonight he wanted us to update him tomorrow on what we told him that it might be nothing it might just be informational he knows that he's okay and we're not asking for you to make the decision tonight and we understand that you know a lot there's a lot of package up to play we're just hoping to get yourself ordered the information the better it actually in my feel to be a special board you can focus on one topic to cover all of everything in each coverable prices one beneficial and that information down and we're taught if you like it would be worthwhile to go ahead and sit the special for me or we should be wait and see if there's any interest I think I'll get information back tomorrow so my understanding of my healing from the board is the consensus is that we're for willing to wear us to talk to any interested school districts that might be one of our pets so now we're in this morning to see what we find out the other districts that you've presented I don't think it's necessary to have a boat I just think a consensus of course that's not very binding but obviously other districts have heard that there's a consensus so you've at least entertained your words all right like you said we don't have a whole lot of information tomorrow yeah Bill may know tonight too yeah so for the minutes of the client and since was the board agreed to discuss land transfer with any other school district and their interest to do so as well and they're interested you guys are interested did you use consensus I did by consensus a good understanding that with the understanding that the proceeding could be expedited oh sure enough foreign [Music] to the Kansas open meeting act to discuss non-elected Personnel approach the topic of classified and certified staff to protect the privacy basketball selection is March the first Junior High lacrosse Music Festival is on the third High School CPO music is at Florida county August 7th I think in the nine weeks is March the 10th months questions all right thank you the superintendent report I continue to work on answer three you know we had about 350 000 denied our equipment security and stuff so I'm working I'm looking at HVAC systems which qualify and I hope to have a proposal next month so I have about 350 000 dollars and I had to to look at to see what he could do as far as HVAC also continue to work with the central place Child Care Network tax credits reported as we've received 175 000 tax credit we currently have 65 100 left so we have uh been approved 109 900 of those tax credits have went out and that much money has raised 157 000 we currently have I believe I need to get it right around the 200 000 to be so that we can really be committed in that project that only started too quick it didn't probably hit the 200 000.
I think it was before I was in the business office so this is my 13th year out so I've checked back five years and that's what I've seen yeah further but so we could raise that to two to three hundred thousand because estimates we're going to get some bids estimates to completely redo the parking areas in front of Heritage and the real probably 600 000 to take out 18 inches of fill and replace that and then pave on top of that will I qualified it has to be the fire lane area normally our parking lots don't qualify because it's out of the right-of-way so but the fire Lanes do call so and even like some of these parking lots do not the parking spots basically if an ambulance has to come in and make a turnaround in our parking lot the area that's the turnaround but the actual parking spot areas don't and there's some other things like fencing that we experience that but then any kind of fencing associated with that would not and and so forth so what we rely on is the contractor to come up with a number because they're familiar with adjacent ways they deal with the contract will contractor will come up with a number that is adjacent ways eligible we get that approved by the sfob or they don't call it an approval I can't remember what's what the term is yeah there's a there's a document that the contractor in this case Sunland Asphalt in front of the Del Rio building would prepare and it's a industry standard for places like this and then once the school facilities board approves that uh right now we think that might be up to 130 000 and the bid was awarded at 212 000 and now we think the total price once this has engineer gets his final results back the final price may go up a little bit based on what the city is requiring but we can throw our adjacent ways money into the larger package though yeah great sounds good and there's there's not been an expenditure there I don't think for at least three years in that fund 20 19 20.
so what that means is students scan their ID 12 000 plus times to come enter the space the PWC on the second and third floor the fitness loss cardio mezzanine uh uniquely there were close to 2 000 student attendees so over 43 percent of the student body has entered the space and I can say anecdotally I've seen a lot of new faces since winter sports kind of are now transitioning into spring Sports and Athletics and then clubs are just getting kind of some changeover and engagement and I've seen a whole bunch of new faces in the in the space now and so I'm sure now it's closer to 50 percent or more of the entire student body has come to use the PWC facilities at some point or another uh and then what's that that's only two months so that's right it's ignoring the kids the kids yeah yeah could we maybe get a uh year long absolutely it's amazing that would be fantastic yeah kids have to scan in so we have it because point the sports seasons of what kids are doing at different times is going to play into that so as a total throughout the year we can break it up very different faces in September October than we're seeing in there right now and then over the years too to draw attention to that point is this data the colors are representing Academic Year so red is freshmen first year students so what we're going to see this is the first year this place is open they're going to evolve through space and eventually there's going to be new first-year students and I imagine this becoming more of a quadrant where you're seeing the current freshmen who didn't get their lifetime membership or whatever it might be who aren't driving who are staying here after school and they'll continue to do that through their four years so um this data will evolve certainly as the year progresses and then as the years progress as well uh and then looking at unique attendance by gender again I've seen a shift here where this is mostly less skewed toward male participation and the reason for that being is when we took this data we noticed the skew toward male participation and started creating offerings that would entice females to come and learn more about how to move their body in a comfortable way and so we've integrated this data already and we're seeing how that data is Shifting and is something that will again pull in another month and then again at the end of the year to see how that has affected attendance at the PWC and to give you some historical perspective on that as well of course we want to increase that female attendance percentage rate however when we didn't have the space and we had open weight room every day after school in the west Fitness Center I can tell you you could go in there maybe three out of five days where you didn't see a single female in there working out it was all males on there so to see that number is actually fantastic what channels are you using to communicate with to the students yeah great question I have some more on this but we can address it now it's through we have Wellness Wednesday which is a regular Wednesday feature in the daily digest my face has been shamelessly featured on a lot of video content that is amateurishly assembled but effective in communicating what we're offering in the PWC as well as through the different departments through the physical welfare department through Student Activities departments and then also through even engaging through ssts in the student services department informing kids about what it is that we offer and how it might facilitate a heightened sense of well-being for them and just an interesting note on that is that this is a preventative or intervention method for a lot of students who can learn that just a little bit of movement daily is actually what they needed to feel de-stressed and I know it's kind of getting away from the how are students finding out about it but when it is through a counselor that they find out that we have this movement program offered that they want to engage in and they come and engage in it it's they're really kind of blowing off steam and it's helping them return to school the next day energized what do you also say probably the best advertisement for kids to use the facility after school is the use of the facility during the school day PE right like so our numbers mirror a lot so the female participation in our strength classes have traditionally been very low and now they're higher than they've ever been and so we piggyback off each other a lot on ways that and we need we need to honestly continue to grow in our partnership and that in advertising in our classes what is offered after school and I think you guys a really nice job after school of advertising what's available during the day so just as a reminder maybe this goes without saying but a lot of this data that he's sharing is all the after-school programming from four to eight ish right so this doesn't even count all the usage that it's getting literally all day long in our PE classes and I'd want to thank Jamie too because her team has played a huge role in helping us construct our communication strategy right her team's area of expertise and that has been just absolutely tremendous and I've created some great relationships with people on our team that have really just helped us in communicating myself so these are some of the programs that we offer by name you will recognize yoga and Zumba these are popular group fitness classes that also have a de-stressing component to it if you will through music and dance through the restorative practice of yoga and then also Patriot Performance training where we've seen a lot of female participation and that is a lot of athletes coming in off season to train together from different teams which has been really exciting and cool to see I like coaching that myself because it's something fun for me to do and I think the students like it too and one-on-one Fitness training that we are offering with our Wellness coaches a few of whom we've hired through rebound Fitness and they're there every day we have at least two of them there every day essentially floor coaching seeing that students are using equipment safely and moving their bodies effectively and providing on the spot spontaneous coaching for how to move better and then also directing them towards something just a little more structured we've found that students love coming in and having open gym and having free time but there is that subset that desire a deeper knowledge or a deeper Fitness literacy and they want to work with someone to kind of gain that knowledge and have the accountability to just Foster better movement habits and this is that piece about how our Communications across departments through the school are really creating this culture of wellness and it is very collaborative with all the different departments and focusing on really what those pillars of Wellness are and what they actually mean and creating really clear and consistent messaging that ultimately will enable all the adults in this building and the students to feel more competent and confident in their in their Wellness practices and so there are many events and things happening taking place outside of the Patriot Wellness Center and we're not going to really spend too much time on that today but just to mention that this is how we are communicating about it and working toward a culture of Wellness go ahead and bring that one up just a second yeah so two of the greatest things that have occurred that were not even on our radar when we were planning to open this space that have helped contribute to a culture of Wellness the first day it was open we had over 400 kids show up and we were like how are we going to staff this facility Well what we've done we have about 15 students that work in the space now and they've become like this cohesive team and they love it some of them work on the communications piece with Jamie and her team some of them we have one guy Nick who has become like the manager so to speak so it's really created this tight-knit group of kids that enjoy working in the space and they take ownership of the space the other thing that happened that we really didn't expect was what's happened in the turf area the best analogy I can give you is if you went on a college campus and walked through a quad in the middle of a school day that's what it looks like on the turf right after school the kids come pouring in you'll have a group of kids that's just playing Pepper with a volleyball eight or ten kids in a circle you'll have some kids playing spike ball we actually had an unofficial world championship spikeball tournament that was like a three-week event that ended on Friday um kids just passing a football around are you know things like that in the space that we didn't think that was going to happen and that's one of their favorite things to do in there and it's creating this culture in that space that you don't just have to come in here to lift weights there's so much more going on in the space than just that so it's really been great so that's where we're at where are we hoping to go so you can see some things on there that we're hoping to move toward in the future and some of these things are already in the works and taking place the the closest thing is our freshman Experience day which is going to happen in April we're going to be tying in the concepts of portrait of a graduate and the pillars of Wellness into the Freshman Experience day we're working with a team of directors teachers to create various lessons that the students are going to take part in on that day that tie directly into the four pillars of Wellness so that's something that we're working on as we speak next school year we're hoping to introduce this concept of a portrait of a community it's not just a portrait of a graduate it's a portrait of what we want the student and staff and the community of the Stevenson Community to look like and work in Partnership together so we have this common messaging that we're giving to the students at school that the staff is giving to the students in the classroom and then that messaging is going on when they get home too so everyone is contributing to this community of Wellness some things we're looking at long term there are some curricular things that um Lori find Zimmer and movies Haney are working on as we speak to introduce some things potentially in the future um we've even explored an idea of something like a wellness Odyssey to promote Wellness within the school for our students and then what we really want to help expand this to in the future is we don't want this just to be a Stevenson High School thing we want to extend end this message and this concept of Wellness down to our feeder districts and have those things start taking place when these kids are in first second grade and then it just carries all the way through to their High School experience at Stevenson so we have a lot of ideas in our heads um your one it was build it and they will come and we've definitely got them coming so now it's just expanding on that in the future so thank you for the opportunity to be in that space that's amazing thank you thank you thank you very much here and I was at an event at Illinois State School Board event Grace was with me and um just talking to the School Board president from District 96.
I need three more and then like 12 59 one came in at 112 one came in and then about three o'clock that number 400 came in so I was like all right so we if it was 401 or 402 I would have been happy to but I was glad we got into that 400 range so um I know you've seen it but for the for the benefit of the people here um there were 181 people who participated who identified as either a parent or guardian of a Dartmouth public school student there were 157 people identified as employees of the Dartmouth Public Schools uh 26 people identified as a resident of the community without children enrolled in the Dartmouth Public Schools 12 were students of the Dartmouth Public Schools six were either Dartmouth local official or town employees and then 17 identified as other um and just to give you an idea grandparent of an enrolled no we have a grandparent of a Dartmouth public school student former School employer employee and currently have grandchildren attending former employee to school secretary in Dartmouth and also a parent of three children who went through the department system retired employee of the Dartmouth Public Schools connected to community Through extended family grandparent employee and Resident so I guess there was two categories a grandparent with an enrolled grandchild parent of a child who will be in DPS in a former teacher in town parent of Dartmouth students and also employee of Dartmouth retired employee of the school I am both a parent and Dartmouth School parent of a Dartmouth School child and an employee parent and employee employee and Resident without children employee and parent employee and Resident without children and Resident with child that vocational school who went to Dartmouth middle in Demello School so that made up the 17 and that's almost always what happens is that people have two roles so instead of picking one they just click other and put in both titles but they are their results were calculated in the total as well so the the very first question again asked to identify themselves but question two was um do I ask the participants to identify the five most significant current and future issues that the new superintendent will need to address and I listed the top sub the reason I listed Seven rather than five is because after 131 there was a big drop to the next category so and the difference between five and and seven was only seven votes so I feel just list seven but they were number one social emotional well-being of students and staff and there was 197 people identified that as one of the five most significant issues curriculum development instruction was second with 187 responses District school culture was third with 162 collective bargaining was fourth with 161 Communications with parent and Community was fifth with 138 financial management building a budget development was 136 and strategic and long-range planning was seventh with 131 and then I said the next number eight was like 118 it was a pretty significant drop what's really kind of interesting with this is um there are a couple of like questions that are very similar but they give you different it's a different context and a different response but um one of the questions later in the survey uh asked uh listed a series of specific experiences and skill areas that were important when evaluating superintendent candidates and then it says how much weight should the school Community give each one of these skill sets and the rating scale was from critically important above average importance of average importance below import below average pardons are relatively unemployment important so I I'm bringing this up now because social emotional well-being students and staff was the number one current of future issues identified when you think about the skill sets necessary for a superintendent to maybe address those issues um supportive work environment was the number three item listed under question six social emotional well-being of students and staff was 12 out of 15.
which that is is that roof system that's past its warranty period what is it is last year was uh it passed its warranty period yeah and then General condition I mean what are we looking at yeah I mean uh the condition is is not bad right now we've done some we've done a significant amount of receaming yeah uh but we're starting to see a lot of uh a couple areas of disc bonding we had a pretty significant area of about 500 square feet of uh uh rubber membrane that this bonded that we had to we had to secure uh before the winter so I mean it's a it's a 12 it's actually I believe uh a 20-year we purchased a 20-year warranty on it and uh it's uh it's there it's uh it's at its end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced all right I mean it's good to have the work done so that the project is is ready to go yeah you have a bid package in hand so you're you're ready to go when the time comes okay we're good on that one everyone the the next one is is a hundred seventy five thousand which was was slated for this year in in last year's capital budget it's to replace the walk-in freezer refrigerator but since we moved the loading this is at Cheshire High School since we moved the loading dock to next year I'm going to move this to next year as well yup that makes sense this is part of that overall setup plot reconfiguration um this next one this one's kind of interesting but the proposal that we had put into the capital budget last year was to make entrance modifications you know specifically to improve the traffic flow out of Highland by adding a right turn lane but this one is going to be moved to the town side Dan thanks Dan that is correct we did move it um you know uh weeks road is a is a town owned Road and having it uh on the Public Works side uh coming through the engineering department uh seemed like the appropriate place to put that all right very good Sam all right uh next one is to continue some of the flooring replacement now we've just completed all the high priority these are now um rated medium priority so for the floor replacements we'd be looking at High School dot Doolittle um you know mostly the main corridors classrooms stairwells where it's needed and we would do vinyl tile sheet vinyl and and some carpeting minimal carpeting I gather rich yes minimal so and again we're trying to continue this this work you know year over year to continue to keep the buildings in good repair yeah VCT VCT and the common areas I mean the high school we've we've done quite a bit over the last few years uh but you know we probably just touched about 30 percent of uh of the common area square footage so we want to continue going going on that and also incorporated into flooring is uh uh reworking all the stairwells with uh you know the ADA Compliant uh rubber Treads and things of that nature so um at the high school as well we have at least six of those stairwells that need to be uh completely replaced so um those monies go towards those types of activities okay and then the next one is along the same lines it's just interior door replacement on a worst first basis you know including fire doors classroom doors lock sets um for the classroom doors so it's a hundred thousand and four hundred thousand over five years all right I'll keep moving next next one The Outdoor Classroom at Highland um is definitely in need of some TLC including the the floating dock um and I are we good when we actually remove that or replace it rich what are you thinking I would love Yeah it needs to be removed half of it's sunken I believe yeah uh so I'm gonna try to get that removed this summer um ultimately I think it needs to be determined as to uh you know if if that's a value-added uh activity uh to build a new floating dock and I would hate to even see what would be required from you know the storm Water Commission and dep and so on so forth so I'm not sure that that's a good use of of Monies I mean there's an educational value here that um it's not being used for the intended purposes or as it was in the past so that that is a question that we have to get answered by the Educators and I see there are some questions around this already ma'am that's exactly what I was going to ask you and I mean it's been I assume it's been sitting pretty dormant then for even pre-covered times because the of the platforms that are I don't know what was the usage prior to covid yeah I mean it was used kind of as a as a nature center type classroom right but you know I I would have to get my arms wrapped around the educational piece by talking to Scott Jeffrey and Marlene about what they want to do with this I mean part of the part of what rich is suggesting is it's in disrepair so we we really have to deal with that the longer term value as an outdoor classroom which my bet is that they want they would use it and want to continue to use it but I won't know that until I I hunt this one down a little bit I mean so can we move this out there until we do some facts yeah I I mean I think that is the thing to do okay I mean so what's Owen was that like was that sponsored by a business here in town at one point you know I don't know Rich to you no I don't know either Olin I know all alone skis it was a manufacturer at one point yeah I think so yeah I'm not maybe they're not sure it might have been a donation or what have you but I don't I don't know for sure yeah we should do a little research on that maybe somebody's willing to uh give us another request okay I will chase that one down the next medium one is at Cheshire High School and that is oh the steam the seating improvements Rich can you talk about that for a minute yeah that's just uh that's the entire McCleary McCleary Athletic Complex Improvement so that would include stadium seating uh updating the Press Box um you know replacing the exterior fence around the track uh you know and then you know try to do a design plan that would modernize the baseball field potentially add LED lighting to the practice field and baseball fields so I mean the sky's the limit ultimately it's uh at least trying to get designed monies in play so we can uh get an architect on board to try to uh craft uh um an ultimate and design for all of that so what's the one is the 150 for construction or is that 150 just for design I think it's just seed money we just we just thought we could get in there and and do but we do need design money uh first and my you know my opinion so you know 100 Grand could move to the right because I don't think we're going to be able to get anything accomplished this year anyway all right so the intent is to go out for a design thanks Sam okay uh next item is another district-wide project this is to take care of sidewalks curves stairs area ways just worst first basis but this is planning funds is that right Ben no this is actual work funds all right right yes yeah yep smaller scaled uh contract you know smaller scale projects where we can get local contractors to to to bid on this and get them done over the summer yeah I'm sorry Andrew you're right it's planning funds but we would find a home for the funding it's not um not design funding that's what I I was confused oh maybe planning as I'm like this this board okay yeah you may want to just say dedicated funds yeah there you go okay um the next one is to continue the Cheshire High School window replacement project you know we did we did go out to bid for this summer we have a a contractor Jay Rosa is doing window replacements at at the high school you want to give us a quick snapshot of what what's happening this summer rich uh yeah we're going to be replacing Windows uh in the entire administrative area at the South entrance of the school so that'll help uh that'll help in that area where they have currently have drafty windows so that'll help on the heating and cooling side we're also replacing Courtyard side windows uh it's Library Courtyards I believe don't quote me I believe it's rooms uh 76 78 80.
I just felt like we I mean we have to put that in there that this can't be happening you know because we can't be claiming more meals than we actually serve or vice versa we're under claiming or not collecting all the money that from the meals we serve so that's all that information is basically pertaining to is that issue with that and like I said on page 54 um it just talks about it from the prior year Christie I believe was going to start kind of looking that over more closely and we're going to have two or three people I'm not sure the exact process that you've implemented but we're going to have two or three people kind of reviewing that meal count to the individual account sheets just to make sure that they're jiving back and forth because it's a simple issue just you know one person maybe is trying to fill it out maybe they're even in a rush because we're behind and so we're just going as quick as possible maybe having another set of eyes on that I'll catch those little mistakes and make sure that we're accurately reporting our meals and then back there on pages 55 and 56 now this is a corrective action plan if there's finding we're required to put that in here kind of the district's response to the findings kind of sums up everything that we've been talking about as far as what's been implemented and what our processes are going to be going forward but this is just the district's response per se to those findings now we'll go back to the letters they're on the front of your packet that's just one pack of stapled letters these first two pages are what they call a presentation letter if we were to ever have any issues with Craig or Christy giving us the information we needed in the past we could just come to the board orally and kind of report those say hey this is going on I want you to be aware of that we didn't have any issues to disclose or just simply required to now put that writing in this letter and that's what I'm saying is you know we didn't have any issues no problems as far as the auto went to the great staff as far as you know helping us out making sure that we're getting what we needed as well as I would say a commitment to try to be better you know Christians really worked hard with Skyward in the last couple months to really nail down that process of Bank Rex as well as just in general you know training yourself more in depth so I will commit to that on that third page of our audit adjustments I have nothing to really majored in there to point out um some of these are just kind of some generic and record interesting cattle on some of our investments um our CDs and then just some various adjustments with accounts payable and some transfers so really nothing I feel like needs to be pointed out that really sticks out is you know out of the ordinary major and then on the fourth page we get to our management representation letter this is in that staple pack it's got the date at the top but no letterhead this is what we like to refer to as a reminder letter we really encourage the board as well as management to reread this letter each year each one of these points we should have talked about at some point during the audit with management so it's really good to reread that kind of see those things that we might approach you about and see those kind of questions we asked during the year kind of just stick it in the back of your mind like oh hey this happened during the year and you know make sure that we tell our auditor about it and year so with that being said if you have any questions or comments Kyle and his crew do a very very thorough job so again you want to commend them to their work and Christy and our central office staff Cindy Nicole and Missy and the building staff that present the information as far as all the all the accounting too an awesome job as far as getting everything together and as you can see we've got some corrective action as far as we're dealing with the issues and making sure that they are taken care of it we're as Kyle mentioned we have a commitment to get better with those two areas for sure so and Christine and the central office staff has spent a lot of time with Skyward to that's been very beneficial especially with that split check scenario that's been going off for years and years and years and it needed to be taken care of and it has so yeah sometimes I always feel like it's best to play me out or changes are happy to take it does anybody have any questions at any percent a lot of information but I think in years past we've uh maybe last year was not as in-depth I think every other year we kind of elected in depth go through like it was not and I think that's the address though yeah right so that's really good I appreciate that and it doesn't do have questions Christy Craig they can always get a homeless throughout the year we're happy to help so yeah thanks thanks here's one motion to approve the audience I'll move to approve the 2021-2022 audit as presented a second Monique are you on a computer able to vote yes okay yeah motion passes six zero now we can see if we're happy with what we're present with and move forward with the same armor next year for a contract approvals and appointments this is kind of the same I'm the same numbers I think as last time right slightly more or about 600 so maybe 400 news right seems like a very professional presentation every time we've had them come in here I think we switched three years ago Vice Hauser yes no place got out of school auditing right okay baby yeah no I like how you present it and it seems like is are they good to work with yeah and we can get in touch with them at any time they are just immediate okay if they're not there to take our calls they call back very very quickly and and just have a really good working relationship with them and they help us and yeah a lot yeah we recently have a three-day like work session with Skyward that they came in on site which excellent awesome and they were able to work together or we were able to work together with both Skyward and Kyle to work through some some things that had been hanging out there for a few years so um still um the engagement letter with Jared Gilmore and Phillips PA for the 2022-2023 financial audit and the amount not to exceed nine thousand dollars in a second mode capacity move on to the personal section of the agenda motion recessive detective session for 10 minutes from hours which would be being privileged in the attorney-client relationship under coma to include Craig Marshall and kasb attorney by phone second foreign Jimmy Island I'm going to accept their entire request and payroll back as high school facts teacher with regret at the end of the 2022-2023 school year second foreign ers on mine money I said it goes we got it motion passes six zero move on to the next one and I'll move to accept the retirement request of Tim Johnson as high school science teacher with regret at the end of the 2022-2023 school year second motion passes six zero and again Pam taught for 31 years four of those with us and Tim 32 years 21 with us and they will be missed move on to the results monitoring report science and social studies perfect good time yes okay got it foreign minister we just don't we don't have anything give us more lovely twos yeah so it's not there there isn't anything formal for the state at all we still haven't gotten anything back from them we'll be tested during our Juniors this year and then next year at 16 years and then from that year on out we're gonna do all seniors trying to get a plan in place for our building we do fourth grade ours is only seven so we kind of shared their wealth in each building um took a to the grade level there and that creates pain for the science assessments at Bes we only have that also in fourth grade and we take the math assessments and then we'll click on a select person and we um these these scores are really consistent year to year for the fourth grade students they perform very well on the science assessments with a large percentage of the class to the average to high average and high range so this year I can see it's the 70 of the kids are in those three strong and our results are pretty strong too with the exception of what is the slippery which is your experience traditionally can't perform than what most classes do at me a mess that's also the blast that we've had 75 kids last year in three sections it was it was very large but they typically performed lower or making gains in the right way as well they just they're just lower performance when you look at eighth grade again they were above the state average and science as well as on map they were above the national average there as well the next time yeah so 51 scored in the high average to high category which is pretty exceptional again overall they're above the national rappers there and then this is the the type of piece [Music] again I mean if you look at the upper two categories eighth grade they're they're both know about the state average and then again fifth grade that would be this year's sixth grade has has performed below the state average or just about everything but when you look at some of the map scores at the end of last year they were actually only like uh typical points below the national average on the map so there's a little bit of that summer aggression with ours with our science degree questions but with ours and then with the ACT um kind of taking a look at that we've taken a little dip um with our I think as we cover some of that through the last a little bit but our science we are getting the numbers up in those other level classes again so from pre-enrollment so that's a good thing doing some engineering inside of the classrooms and adding engineering Pathways as we looked at our scores it's what we can do to kind of get those those in there and then with the what's the last one is that the collagen career ready one yeah that's the color yeah it's a college [Music] um and so really what we were looking for here is making sure that our kids are at that point at that point so I mean anytime you look at the data that's triangulated um act and it since all of our kids take the ACT it we tend to take a little dip in that because and what we've done is rerouted some of those science classes so that there's not um there's not an easy easy app they're still getting those standards built in there so we take a look at that there thank you [Music] there are any specific questions in the board that we have one results I think a good comment that Jody made as far as we want to encourage students to take those challenging classes if they can take those challenging classes you know they may not get an A and they may get a B but that's not a bad thing it's it's okay to you know struggle a little bit have some challenges before they may end up going off to college and that does challenging classes again will help them in the future another piece to this is that the state universities and yeah speak to this Jody and Taylor if you want to on this State University's ACT scores are not required as much now because they want more kids to enroll they've had a number of kids that are going into technical colleges more so and so the ACT isn't quite as important as it was before it's still important for scholarship money and so on and so forth but it's it's not it's not quite as emphasized as much you know to get in for just College admission so anyway a little different and basically you got the money can go but if you have the match of your GPA and your act you're going to get a lot more money now because I let a lot more people on the door but I can't see the value in it it's not that I just don't think our kids together and it's just that when they see that the rigors in the other classes as well it just looks differently they all motion do accepted results monitoring report concerning science and social studies as a reasonable interpretation of the board of education's results policy so again motion passes six zero move on to board policy the first item on there is the calendar for 2023 2024.
uh do that again I've got two articles on the website any contribution receives a 70 percent automatic state of Kansas tax credit the other 30 percent could be conducted on the federal side again this was raising money for the Child Care Network I also plan to try to do some graph running or just that we're trying to continue through our daycares in our district our outside visitation of course was as I said it might be but the members of our district leadership team and I appreciate everything that they did Jane ozier Kim Bingham Kayla Robinson Toby Holmes Lisa Christ Agent mcquire Kid windholes Ted long Justine delabo and Sabrina they did a great job I appreciate all the work they did to organize and help the presentation and to work as they meet throughout the year uh I visited with our summer lunch program out of Wilson feeding children that will leave set the title of the program beating children I'm not sure so he's a PD children Feed the Children be the children Feed the Children and they provide summer lunches and we're going to continue doing exactly what we've done in the past provide uh between them and us will provide a driver and they prepare the meals she served over 9 000 meals at gsd12 last year just and also they serve at Ellsworth and at Silver Grove they did get a little Grant to do some cooking we're probably trying to get a couple high school kids to apply for to help in those positions okay uh some of their food so that's where that's a great deal Jane mentioned the area in service Monday at lions are with 13 schools there we'll have a speaker they will break out into content or grade level meetings so that they could collaborate within their grade level or content our Board of Education meeting in March is the Monday of spring break FYI March 13th it might be a spring break any questions thank you okay are there any board member reports items for next month's I think I have S or three on there I have ksb policy uh recommendations and also the calendar for the 23-24 school year week next month yeah probably our personality um make a motion okay [Music] thank you everybody
yeah and then that was for some parking areas Del Rio I guess it was a fire lane behind Del Rio and Heritage so that fund is completely bustling continuing to grow right any questions on just the budget summaries those are the two budgets there uh three funds I'd like to highlight just briefly if you go to the vertical page there where these are cash funds and the county treats them as a cash fund and if there's not cash in the funds they're real hesitant about discussion halfway down 526 tax credit fees you see we started the year with 270 1000 we brought in revenues of 66 000 who spent 52 000. we've got 30 000 encumbered so we're still in that fund got 255 000.
he said well your Wellness Center it's all I hear about everybody wants to so it's already out there in the feeders about you know the teachers are jealous and they're they're getting some so that that may come those numbers will increase yeah the fresh I mean to whoever made the point about 30 something percent of our freshmen that if it's 30 every year now all of a sudden we've got the Weisberg problem was was that 30 of the Freshman or 30 percent of the people attended thirty percent of the people who are attending yeah but of you know how many kids those are hundreds and hundreds of kids right there is yeah that number's just gonna grow exponentially um so one one comments I want to make like for the female participation I can see that really happening in my family because I got a daughter she's a sophomore so at the beginning of the year when PDX just opened and she passed because you're telling me Mom there are no more female girls in the world cup like this oh oh man stop right and now I said why don't you try and right now she's going to pee that's almost every single day and with her female friends they really enjoying the working on the machines so I was so proud of her you know thank you for promoting this video you know yeah I love to hear that yeah have you all identified it was interesting to hear also just the shift from the old weight room to the PWC and what that looked like demographically have you identified any other real or perceived barriers to access within the student Community are there other things that you're seeing that are keeping people out or pieces of our community of segments of our community that you'd like to see come in more yeah great question we've worked with the foundation a bit to especially for students who do qualify for additional benefits to have them be equipped to actually come to the PWC with what they're wearing through the Jalen Brunson foundation and what they've done to make donations to provide some of that gear uh and then we're all we have also met with specific intervention as well as other areas that there might be an additional barrier for feeling comfortable in the space to address their specific needs it gets really complex especially when you start talking about like body image and potential for identifying disordered eating patterns comfortability with movement that we're creating a essentially weight a streamlined way to identify when a student might have that challenge and then right now what's in place is that myself or a wellness coach would meet with them actually in a one-on-one setting or context if that's what they're comfortable with to kind of talk through some of those like main challenges and barriers that you see commonly in I guess Wellness spaces in general and so yeah both from an organizational perspective we're doing what we can and definitely can improve on how we're addressing that and then trying to also do that on a one-on-one level foreign a little shout out to our Alum Jalen Brunson who made a significant donation to our foundation with the specific uh and will be for the next few years but with the specific focus on supporting our traditionally unrepresented students in that space with financial support so it's it's been great so everything from clothing to other sports for kids has been instrumental in helping us to get more students into that space after we done our reaching out to our handicapped students great question there are a number who I haven't seen that I think were either have a history of being physically handicapped in the space that's actually a great point that something that we can take back and consider more strongly something I can mention too actually they just um are represented from the ELC just reached out to Eric and I last week asking if there would be a possibility of them getting some space in there to do some things with some of their you know they've actually been coming this year so I've been working with the ELC they come during the day um there's certain times of the day that it's uh there's more freedom there's fewer students in certain spaces that we worked out facilitated with the teachers that to please that space and we provide them access when pretty much whenever they whenever they want or need it we've been able to work around them um so that they feel comfortable and they can they can be in that space and and experience it like every other student so how will you assess over time the success of Wellness either through the castle competencies or how will you devise your metrics besides the number of kids that are using it yeah it's a great question so Wellness habits in and of themselves are trackable through adherence and so when we are creating either curricular intervention or providing assessment to assess their literacy about the wellness habits and behaviors themselves an example of that would be can I tell the difference between a more highly processed food versus a relatively less processed food can I actually identify that on a spectrum defining desired behavior that they wish to adhere to over time to build a new health habit and then having the cueing of and this is something that we're doing in physical welfare that's why I'm looking to Eric here also to build upon like they're adherence tracking so I'll let you check yeah I was going to say um so we have a assessment processed there are slos I'm sure you've heard of this this term before um so this year the choice team as redesigning their SLS for quite a long time and we're tearing that apart we're rebuilding around the wellness Builders and a lot of that's content not but quite frankly I think a lot of the barriers to being well um the choice is networking how they're capable so we're going to start with the bottom right the foundational components of understanding what and why you're consuming what you're consuming and the choices that we make and how they impact you and then we're gonna we're gonna assess them on that their knowledge of that and then we're going to build upon that to have them reflect in their own way this is the key component to this whole thing is Alex and I talked extensively about this how a person comes into this conversation is very different and even though we might look the same and sound the same we are coming at um all of the pillars in our own way and it changes day to day oftentimes so it's so important that kids have an opportunity to understand what they're reflecting upon and then the opportunity to actually reflect upon on what and why they're choosing what to choose I think there's other ways too that you know we would have to I'm not sure you would ever be able to determine causality but you know the Illinois youth survey you know presented really you know interesting data about our kids you know mental health you know that would be data that geez four or five years from now you'd love to see kind of some of those indicators reflect you know kids more positive feelings about themselves and kind of where they're at um student voice survey data you know during the subject just went up this year considerably we're actually outperforming the school and the value you know Centric which is the first time that's ever happened well so yeah so you know and I think the fitness testing that's required by the stage I mean like you know there's a lot of different ways that we could assess it you know but again it how do you determine causality you know what I mean like I think generally speaking our hope is that on a number of different indicators you would see Improvement um and I think you know in some cases we already are you know and that's really that's really great I think what what is so exciting about this and this is part of the reason why Troy and I've been so passionate about this for so long is that everything that this team is doing just Works hand in hand with what Lori and members of our student services team are doing with our SEL initiative and so to to us this was always like the you know the yin yang you know you can't have one without the other and so you know very often when we see Alex you know here in the district office which is always great to see you he's often meeting with Laurie you know and members of student services team so having those you know two parts now working together I think is really powerful so I I actually think that eventually we would like to see you know some of the data reflecting how our kids are doing with their own mental health you know be improved as well that that's my hope yeah but it'll it'll take a little bit of time can I have you guys go back to just slide nine as a patriot Wellness Center experience Wellness of course excellent I was going to ask you about this but uh everyone involve them in this because we are hearing a bit that maybe that wall is not doing so well so in the background there there it was doing great that day apparently your presentation's over so now a new topic uh I figured it was just an easy Segway so no they did an amazing you guys thank you very much and Sean you want to point out very quickly yeah very quickly I just want to point out the follow-up of the living wall in the PWC has been a little bit of a sore spot for me uh as well I'm sure for you guys as well because um not fully developed I'm happy to say that the plantings will be occurring uh very shortly we have been involved with um this one back and forth with the manufacturer and designer of the wall and um we're hoping to avoid a legal confrontation but most importantly do they have the root cause do they determine the cause we have discernment okay and it was not us great can we just while we're talking about it remind everybody the purpose of the I mean we're talking about Wellness we're talking about mental health we're talking you know building in general kind of go over that briefly I don't know sure like the just the larger scale like a larger scale I mean the the carbon Net Zero yeah just all of the impacts that are students yeah just so in addition to um you know in addition to all the benefits that were talked about today um you know the the living wall does reduce our um energy needed to think of it as a giant furnace filter that recycles or that takes carbon dioxide and particulates out of the ear and allows us to recirculate air or oxygen um that is cleaner um at a but it's already at room temperature or the temperature that we wanted so we don't have to spend energy heating or cooling it we do have a full megawatt solar panel array on top of our roof that provides enough electricity to supply the field house for an entire year so our field house is in fact Net Zero and then of course there's just that you know that idea of biophilic design where you can bring the outdoors in to kind of bring that I don't want to say calm but for lack of a better word that calm that Ambiance there are many students that will just say you know I've heard them say in this in the in the hall when we did the first one they're like boy I just thought it was kind of cool and I like hearing the water drip down right like it's just relaxing so um those are just a couple of them you know obviously the natural daylight helps as well because we you know the more we can get away from the artificial light even if it is led the better off our students will be so how many living wall we're having right now so uh we have two in the uh East Building Edition that was first opened in 19 uh or excuse me in 2019.
and promoting our response promoting Dei was 14th so when you think about what the social emotional well-being of children and then the school culture climate the skill sets were down here yet the priority was here so there was a little bit of Disconnect between those two questions and I bring it up because quite often we see when that's a high priority those are highly ranked skill sets to do that here it was a little off um and then um under question seven um personal characteristics um a a a strong Communicator was ranked third in like communication with parents and Community was right fifth in the other one so there was a connection to to some uh similar characteristics um there's breakdowns for each of the categories I provided for you I don't know if you want me to get into all of that I will but you have it and you were able to review it uh question three was an open-ended question and um what do you believe is will be the most important issue facing the next superintendent and which is a little bit different than the second question because it's open-ended and people could free-form with that one but um of the 338 responses to these questions the word students staff and teachers appeared in over 54 of the response responses in a positive way um student comments included concerns over learning loss lower expectations in school climate those were some of the negative things that came from the Student Response side staff and teachers appear to be in the same category as that response but many are focused on retaining qualified staff and collective bargaining challenges and then I provided you a full list of all the open under responses and four identified 10 positions that a candidate for superintendent position may have held in the past and participants were asked to identify their top three choices of experience listed that would be most valuable to the next superintendent of schools in Dartmouth overall and I'm going to do this one through ten teacher was the number one response with 229 responses or 57.25 percent superintendent in another School District 202 assisted superintendent 189 building principal 164.
so there's roughly three science labs where we're basically replacing that whole window wall if you will that looks out into the courtyard so that'll be and uh we'll be installing Windows similar to what we installed a few years ago with uh um insulated glazing and operable awning windows on the bottom that seems to be working out pretty well yeah I have to say I was in the uh principal's conference room and the Senior Walk area looks great with all those yeah I mean it makes such a difference the whole interior Corner lives I don't want to say new but the building looks about 50 years newer than it did yeah yeah Windows uh windows in my opinion are the uh the biggest Capital dollar bang for the for the money and so when you say the South elevation so that's when I'm the the old I guess it's the assistant principles yes now or the guidance office there so does that include those the exterior doors uh right now it does not but we're looking at uh we're looking at options of uh getting those done as well but that this particular project did not include those exterior doors because we were limited by how much Capital funding we had available that's just those doors are major happier maybe we'll surprise you Andrew well I mean they're they're in awful condition I mean I think those are already they are I agree with the doors I used um yeah we we do have a plan on that all right um I look forward to seeing it rich and I talked about um okay I have to find batteries for my magic wand I'll give me a little bit of time I'll find something maybe it's in the boiler room right there you go all right now we're moving into the we got a couple of low priority ones here the high school Greenhouse demolition with possible future replacement uh we want to emphasize possible future replacement because I'm not sure that we would want to if we replace anything I I don't think we'd want to do it there no um and kind of subsequent to to looking at at this request Rich you you did Shore up the some of the greenhouse walls that were failing so yeah we had we had a small roof section that failed uh which caused water to migrate down uh masonry uh it was a CMU wallet actually was Hollow CMU and uh uh pushed out all the mortar so we did expense some monies to see to stabilize that so that'll be uh right now that's weatherproof again and uh should remain so for at least the the near future so uh the greenhouse can uh the greenhouse has a stay of execution at this point in time all right so I'm going to move that 50 000 out yeah and then the next one is the you know this is a request from the principal at Cheshire High School to um reconfigure the you know the existing main office and the old main office so that the administrators can all work in one Collective area um so the year one is is twenty five thousand dollars that's just for design fee and then the 120 000 as a placeholder which is probably kind of a low number but um you know we assigned this a low priority just because of in the scheme of things you know it's not something that uh we would make a high priority the two offices that even though they're separated they're functional but this is something that the principal would like to see happen so I I certainly endorse leaving the design money for this year so that we can come up with a plan and get an estimate of probable cost man what's the Thought moving the all that all the options into the one area yeah Mary would like to have all four you know herself and the assistant principals together so there'd be the four of them and now you have some in the old main office yeah yeah you have one upstairs two actually you have um two in the old main office a third one in the special ed office across from that and then Mary gads office is in the front of the you know at the main office area so I'm I'm not sure there is a solution to accomplish what you know Dr Gad would like to have done but that is the request Sam what's the rationale just to have Administration in one location I I actually kind of like the makeup that it is currently so that the kids have access to Administration in various parts of the building and not just one part but I'd love to hear what you know what her rationalists okay I can I can get some some more details but yeah that is I hear what you're saying and I you know I think there is a logic to do it both ways but um yeah it to me this is a toss-up yeah I mean there's a sense of comfort for me knowing that the administrators are spread out in the building given you know security reasons especially since that is you know an entrance that is used by um some of the students you know basically the seniors do use that entrance you know visitors all come through the main doors you know along the Route 10 side I mean in the morning that's where all the kids go into school on that side of the building yeah I mean the parent drop-off kids anyway which is more and more yeah we could move this one to the right if you're so inclined as well yeah I don't think it's a high priority for me even on the list of your priorities because again I think you know I like knowing that administrators are spread throughout the building versus in one location okay yeah I can go with Sam on that sure yeah me too definitely okay next item is the reason we've highlighted to indicate that well let me let me try and make this a little simpler so Dodd we have heating system improvements we need some design money um and a about a four hundred fifty thousand dollar cost um the next item is unit vent Replacements and then there's HVAC improvements on the stage so these three items you know one of the questions we have about dot is if we incorporate a major upgrade to the HVAC which of these items do we have to do which items can we put off if we're doing a you know a significant upgrade to HVAC at Dot um and I'm just looking so the we have two large numbers in here I just moved down the spreadsheet because I want to touch on this so we had a feasibility study done by Ces for Dodd and the estimated cost to fully renovate and upgrade the air conditioning or install air conditioning where it doesn't exist in most of Dodd that's 5.8 million dollars and that includes the electrical upgrades that need to be done and then along the same lines we had a feasibility study done at Doolittle and that came in at 6.9 million including the electrical upgrades so just keep that thought in your head right now we're focusing on dots so I'm going to move back up you know to these items and Rich I just need you to kind of walk through these one at a time the heating system so that line item can actually go away because that's gonna be made up with the 600 000 that we're asking as an emergency capitalization to replace the boilers so that's where that money that money was headed so yep okay and the next one is HVAC improve unit vent replace yeah and that falls back on you know we would need some design money to to you know look at centralized uh you know innate centralized HVAC system you know whether that's a combination of unit ventilators and centralized units uh I'm unsure because it's a two-story building so that's a that would fall under the design category and actually that's encompassed in that um it's all encompassed or inclusive in that that report from CES stage cafetorium same deal you know that would be part of all of that HVAC upgrade but the intent was there's two huge ancient Air Handlers on the either side of the stage um that apparently was used for ventilation and heating one of them has been decommissioned and I can only guess for how many years uh the other one uh does operate uh and provides heat only um so that that's that story and again unit ventilator replacement just a continuation of the line previous all right so let's should we move all those to the right if they tally to the bottom line I mean I mean that's a that's up to the the planning committee here well I guess what I'm asking are are any of these items that we have to do right now like the stage cafetorium can we continue to run as is or you know we looked yeah yeah we have been okay well I'm certainly getting that one out of year one then these can't be Again part of any of our hvc efforts tagged on to that sure maybe yeah okay but we don't need them in year one and then going back to the so do we need design money Richard and I know there's we're kind of duplicating yeah in the capital budget saying hey we may need 5.8 million but if we don't do that we do these well yeah realistically how many years will transpire before we we get to 5.8 million you know so it might be it might be beneficial to keep a couple of these maybe not this year but at least into next year and try to get um I don't know put uh you know 30 000 in a couple of line items for design and replace what we can um on the Fly before we get into a larger expenditure I mean could use higher than one can you just have one of my item to have a whole HVAC study you can yeah combine them and just pay yeah and just have everything looked at General HVAC improvements just retitle it I [Music] a million dollars of just kind of routine maintenance and some upgrades with HVAC and Dot like do we want to spend this money on that because then you know it's just I hate money after that it's just it's it's counterproductive um yeah I mean I'm sure Rich this is just kind of like I know you're careful where the town spends money right so you're looking at this I mean this is just your list of Dodd things that are obviously on your mind as being problems in the next five years and you come up with 12.5 million dollars worth right yep yeah I mean and you know Finn and I go through these try to prioritize them you know what what's uh you know what's uh top prayer you know we try to prioritize them you know going forward and and you know what can we do without this year it's it's basically we are in the mode is is what we I guess our our uh our mode of operandi is what can we do what can't we do without you know that's how we ultimately end up making our our Baseline decisions so it's kind of tough to forecast uh you know what our expenditures are going to be out so this is a list of uh you know trying to mitigate some of you know um what we won't get I guess is for the lack of a proper description right and if for those of everybody without their listening you know and this doesn't include any sort of student academic enhancements right a band room or improved theater facilities or athletic fields or anything it's just I mean for a hundred thousand dollars I can replace a moderately sized you know rooftop unit or add one to an area you know for that amount of money versus a larger scope project that's a million dollars you know 100 000 is a little bit more palatable uh for everyone yeah person uh Tim glad thanks Andrew so the total on these eight these projects are your estimate is 12 or 13 million dollars right now well for Doolittle and and okay so I'm just curious I'm not sure if it's a percent of the way a design you would put that out there um would it be a fifty thousand dollar design project or would it be ten percent and then it'd be over a million dollars and the real question here is I'm just wondering if we're looking at a whole town wide thing which I understand where Andrew's coming from it makes sense to me but do we end up crossing a referendum threshold I mean does it end up being 500 000 for a design for that no well or maybe I don't think so because typically the funds that we use for design um are coming out of you know our own cash as CNR oh okay great okay so yeah I don't think we'll get we would get there on that because of that that fact okay all right so that makes sense all right thank you yeah so I mean again this is if if we knew what we were doing with Dodd definitively be a lot easier right but absent that we do have to you know plan for you know some of these Replacements you know again I know we've talked about this already a couple of times tonight so no it's the timing the timings yeah I mean it is it is a timing issue and it's just a real conversation that has to be had you know it's like well well I mean certainly one thing we could do is you know we could hire somebody to kind of do this overview of all these HVAC projects that we we've listed out here the we do have the two feasibility studies for Dodd and Doolittle but we could put some thought into that I mean I would certainly try and budget the capital dollars but how we actually deploy that doesn't have to be on uh you know each of these projects gets you know reviewed and designed separately we we could combine this and say look we want these are the projects that we think we want to do let's get some help in looking at them globally and again if there's HVAC grants that that do get approved then that gives us a you know another layer under which to consider this all right and then I think there's one more item um where we've requested funding for this year which is acoustical ceiling tile replacement and again that's to try and continue that work you know we've we've done quite a bit of this right rich we have we have done quite a bit so you know we're placing the ceiling tiles that are worn or you know and we try not to let the water damaged ones stay around for long but you know some of these ceiling tile replacement projects you know make the rooms or the areas look really crisp you know aesthetically very pleasing no I think that's that's smart okay so that concludes the year one request and I'm just gonna scroll down all right can you how many are over referendum limit um well let's see starting back at the top we have Doolittle boiler replacement that's six hundred thousand okay um and um as we go through this I'm just trying to think of which projects might have had funding from previous years that you have to combine it so Dodd's boiler replacement is one High School window replacement even though it's 500 000 well that in and of itself would get us to referendum but that would definitely be a second referendum item and in talking about Bond Council if you did 400 000 because the project it doesn't matter by elevation it doesn't matter by building type it's windows at the high school yeah this one's specific to the high school and I mean we we the bottom Council looks at that as a project as it's aggregated from prior years okay okay two two better than eight there was like eight when we started yeah well we we moved quite a few to the right um there is actually let's just take a step back there is one more project 250 roof replacement um Rich this was one that was in the capital budget we just increased the dollar amount the main office EPDM yep and that one's [Music] um that one's leaking it is all right so we need that 250 and then there was another 50 000 that we included for this 23 24 to start looking at Dodd's window replacement project um and I you know I know what the reaction is going to be this is 3.8 million to invest in in dot Windows is a big number if we knew that Dodd was staying or leaving it'd be really easy to make the decision but Dodd is still running on single pane windows you know and so The Replacements you know woods they have an energy savings component you know not to mention a um comfort component right because double pane windows keep it warmer in the winter and keep it cooler you know in the summer even if we don't have air conditioning in the building yeah could we um this is just I want to hear what my my uh other folks have to say about this but can we put that off the 50 000 off a year for God I mean I think that we need to have a conversation as a town and find out what we're doing with that before we spend fifty thousand dollars to design something that could be a 3.8 million dollar project the town might very well everyone's Town might want to keep dying we might be replacing the windows in the next coming years but why spend fifty thousand dollars it does not gonna be there in the next seven years or so yeah I like the optimism yes we could move it all right before you do that I'm just curious you don't I mean if this money gets approved you don't have to spend it right but we're still going with a total number Tim sorry what I'm trying to you know I'm just saying it 50 000 is in there then we're flexible and then say in 11 months if you wanted to move forward with the design they could that's my that's my simple point I it doesn't get spent because we put it in the budget it doesn't get spent just remember how much we usually get for Capital Money Every what I requested yeah yeah like Tim I I've been on average you go you usually get what I know you I've seen that you've done it before you showed yeah the average has been increasing but 2.8 million I think is the number we've averaged over the last decade but we uh we talked about this during the operating budget discussions we do need to ramp that up you know now that we know that certain buildings are staying online we've been putting stuff off that we need to do so I mean I'm looking at the request now if you could see it on the screen where it 3.4 million you know for next year which um I mean I think that's I think that's very reasonable if not um maybe a little low but you know based on the discussion that's I I think we can make that work I won't want to see that cut much though I mean I'm just going to say I and I might get thrown out of here but um I'd really like to see air conditioning for do a little school put in Year One and I know that that's like but if there is a chance to get 50 reimbursement I mean that's our only elementary school that will have no air conditioning after modernization phase one I think that those voters overwhelmingly supported modernization and I think that it's so there's an equity issue it's not really fair I mean then you're looking at affecting property values and part of town because it's the one school that's not modern it's the one School of Design Air Conditioning but it's a huge number well realistically though Andrew yep we couldn't putting it in year one means that you're going to do it this summer move it to year two put the design money in this year and you could move the you know six million plus into year two or year three I'm okay with that I mean Sam Tim no I'm I'm totally fine with design money the only thing I would say is to to Vin is if we as a planning committee are asking questions about it like right now just circle back with us before we end up moving forward and touch base with the town too because you're going to be getting feedback from Sean Kimball and the council to about how things will be progressing in terms of school modernization and then based on what you're hearing from that then we decide if we're going to move forward spending any design money on Doolittle air conditioning or anything the any other items that we've been sort of questioning right Now Rich I know we had the feasibility study done for Doolittle but that's all it was is a feasibility study what would it cost to design a system that meets what was recommended in the feasibility study I'm looking for what number should I put in the capital budget for that you think I don't really know Dan you want to take a shot at that foreign I mean you could start at 50 I mean ultimately are you gonna get a full you know if you're anticipating to get like a full bid set you know an absolute uh design you know schematic design that's you know I I don't think you can get there from here I think you have to take another phase and uh at least go and do an initial study to see what makes sense and then everybody agreeing to it um the feasibility study gave us a few options and they gave us price points on those options but you still have to make the decision which way you want to go how close did they look at the space What type yeah yeah it was just feasibility right I think you got to take it to the next level and just you know try to you're gonna be over a hundred in design I would expect I I was gonna say I mean it's not 50.
okay I've shared with you some information in the past again uh draft One calendar draft one was presented to uh our staff in all the buildings uh in December uh they gave feedback before Christmas break and then that created some time for us to look over some possible adjustments again overall I might say uh draft one was a pretty solid draft but it did cause it did create an opportunity for us to create a second draft which again some side adjustments administrators were involved in in discussing this as well as far as The Slight adjustments from the the comments and and the information we received from draft one so with that being said there's just a few adjustments um that we ended up making from draft I must say from draft one to draft two we just switched the September in service Day from the 11th to the 18th just wanted to not go back to Matt Mundy's there with uh kids being off into four day weeks there that was one adjustment um let's see draft two also allowed us because buildings especially middle and high school struggled to get conference time in so with that being said we ended up doing we ended up doing conferences at both first uh the first semester and second semester conferences to give a day and a half of time so we're not jammed with just really tight windows and it seems like parents just get a chance to sit down and then they got it that it's done it's they just have more time at the middle school and the high school level so with that being said um we did we did it allow again the adjustment of the calendar allowed us to add some additional time for parent-teacher conferences um we left the in-service day in January as uh that's uh Martin Luther King day as is we adjusted the February in-service date of February 9th it's not President's Day I remember right President's Day is that uh in February um yeah we adjusted that because we were having some difficulty within service presenters they were typically take off those holidays Martin Luther King and President's Day so if we have some presenters coming we at least wanted to have an opportunity um yeah oh I'm sorry yeah we and we moved out of that February where we don't have any service uh where we move that to April instead so if you look at again parent-teacher conferences the first semester and second semester you can see that their uniform I forget I should have mentioned this before I mean backtrack here they're actually uniform in all three buildings they're going to be held at the same time something a little different we haven't done in the past and that would be in September on the 28th and 29th so that actually on September on the 27th and 29th so it's a Wednesday and a Friday all day long I'm sorry I got ahead of myself on that and then in the second semester they're going to be in February on the 8th in the evening and the ninth all day long so that will also give us an opportunity for maybe some people that need conferences during the day we haven't done that we've said two evenings in the past okay almost thought their questions anybody so far anything uh on draft number two February in the text in the middle says the 26th is an in-service oh we need to take that off thank you yeah we'll make that adjustment so that comes off that's not just a wrong coach work correct yeah that that comes off we just didn't get that thank you for catching that I have a lot of people coming to take Mondays after Super Bowl off but there's a lot of kids if if people can guarantee that the Chiefs are going to be in the Super Bowl every year but see if we do that then we're jinx them seeing so anyway and if you're a Broncos fan you may want us anyways I know something is a Bronco fan so anyway no I did hear talk favorites talking about Columbus Day getting rid of Columbus day's official holiday and then making Super Bowl Monday you know like yeah uh March um it's it's a strange Foundation yeah yeah it's it's way spring break pops up and and just in service time the teachers like that half day in service half day they'll be able to work and wrap up grades for the end of the nine weeks so that's on this calendar the first and then we've had a number of comments about having the Friday before we start officially that spring break so you can you can do something the weekend before actually spring break starts with the or the weekend after so that's yeah marks there's only one Friday in March there okay and yeah and because we've got the um Good Friday and Easter Sunday yeah so it's September 29th and are no school days so teachers are not working they will be they will be in in parent-teacher conferences all day okay so they will be working all day with conferences they don't work in some of the no school days they do yeah because they're like a differently we could fuchsia a different color we delineate that differently or something because it appears like we've added 2X you know what I mean it looks like we got it that's a good point that is a really that is a good point we haven't done like I said we haven't done the conference scenario where we've been on a date so that is a really good it's only been evenings well and that's I don't know if you could you could do it blue at the teacher work day because really that's basically what it is right well no we actually believe it or not we for conferences we get full credit we get full credit for a day we do need a whole new color yeah we do need a whole day yes so in service days we get half credit for the number of hours on our hours our 1116 hours for in-service days for parent-teacher conference it's considered full credit so we get okay just maybe yes any of that separately so it doesn't appear that it's another so that February in service day that we've had President's Day is shifted to April uh that 19th and we just uh moved it there that was a comment uh that was made and then the rest of it's that's pretty much the same so it wraps up the school year on the 5th or the 14th with kids 15 for a flex work day any questions on either draft one draft two or anybody no I think it's worth a shot I've heard you know I've heard from teachers and staff but they'd like to maybe try those days of conferences during the day and you know it's awesome pressed into the nights so I think it's worth a shot to give it a try to see how it works for a year and and we do uh the motion in the past as far as the ratification piece with Buda remember we do we do that at that statement just because we don't make we don't necessarily know what they may bring to the table as far as for negotiations and remember a couple three years ago when we made the adjustment on the the length of the day if they bring that item that's why we would mention you know that it could be subject to ratification just because it might be an item they bring to the table is one of their items for negotiations so um anyway any other questions I'd like to thank the staff and administrators and everybody for giving input on to this and I think we've got a pretty good calendar and we'll see how the parent-teacher conference piece works 23-24 calendar draft number two subject to final ratification of the employment contract review no sorry motion passes six zero move on to the KSP policy updates okay I'm going to try to go through these uh fairly quickly uh again please stop me though if I'm going too fast um the first one the gaab complaints of discrimination there's uh again those notes that you guys see on that it's just a revision and updating clarifying the process again if you have a staff that have complaints um and and again that they've just made some adjustments there there's a spot where it says my position address email so on and so forth we put the generic title Superintendent at 301 Neo show there's a couple of those pages a couple of those slots on that first page there on gaab complaints of discrimination um let me see uh again they just they've just adjusted with a lot of work at credit I say adjust the wording to make it again simpler easier to work with if that's I don't know if that's possible or not you know but again we don't commit the board policies to memory but we know we've got a place to go and following a process or a procedure if we do have to deal with certain things that come up um that's gaab there's not anything I don't know if anybody noticed anything okay the g c r f which is a couple here it is GCR is again just non-school employment it deals with the able to classify employees again they uh they have a job to do they should be doing their job they should not be asking off from their their job at the school to go to a second job if you go or another job so that just deals with that they have a DVD to perform and so on and so forth so that's gcrf um ibad we will put in their uncertain spots like student mental health the superintendent and administration May develop and Implement a student mental health awareness policy because that would be not necessarily me I wouldn't be telling the elementary middle and high school exactly what to do we'd be working together to determine if student mental health what what that what that would be what that would mean what we would need to do Dropout prevention the superintendent and administration May develop and Implement programs so if there's a Dropout situation in the High School Mr Wilson Mrs Grover they meet with those those students so again it's a it's not just superintendent it's superintendent Administration the at-risk students again or at-risk students again superintendent and administration shall be responsible for developing a program so those those are just rewarding changes there um on idab um IFA again just talks about classroom displays pretty self-explanatory there and that's a new one right that would be adopted a new policy it does and JBE the truancy piece uh that one second the one spot there at the top the building principle just cross out or it would be the building principal shall report students who are inexcusably absent from school to the appropriate Authority that's a building administration's job the next one is jce complaints this kind of ties in you'll see some very similar wording to gaab in the jce complaints of discrimination and I don't think there's anything other than just some strikeout language that they have there and uh so on and so forth jce so yeah jdd number of countries off on two-sided they are us and you really major there until you get to the last part of that uh the board or hearing officer appointed by the board it's out here the appeal within 20 calendar days after the notice of appeal is filed it's just a standard operating procedure there within 20 calendar days and KN complaints you'll notice that probably looks a little similar to the jce at times as well as the gaab and at times they refer back to uh board policy um during this uh during this policy as well okay and then there's an additional piece there about complaining about security rules and the student may file a complaint with the principal concerning a school rule or regulation as it applies to the student the complaint shall be in writing filed within 20 days following the application of the rule or regulation and must specify the big principle then shall investigate the complaint inform the student of the resolution within 10 days after the transfer it's just uh again that standard operating procedure of what needs to occur and then it looks like the last item they have just deleted family night LED family night policy LED is out even though we do have some things in place for Wednesdays and Sundays if we were ever to have those things I have to notify you as the board let you know let you know the time and the reasoning why we also notify the minister of Alliance as well we have our own protocol in place for that okay that's a lot of questions um that's not really a feel for the rest of the board on the classroom display stuff that everyone read what that policy will say that's kind of a new one and it's kind of saying that if material is replaced around classroom it's implied but that's kind of what the school board's saying and there's lots of people placing things in their classrooms that may not be agreed upon by the school with it but whatever so what it's saying is that that is our free speech to say the teachers can put them there but that would be classroom appropriate very appropriate learning about curriculum based not other things so I feel that that is something that should be added the other one I actually like the LED being in there right I like to maintain every year when we talk to the ministry of Alliance they talk about maintaining the Wednesdays and Sundays travel I don't and the reason that kusb has that in there to review it and delete it is to give School more flexibility that's kind of what it says I don't know if we necessarily have other evenings we want to delegate as you don't want to do things this time but well then we kind of have an unspoken or Unwritten sorry Unwritten like you said he calls us or whatever but like we're not always all going to be here so it's kind of nice to have that policy in there because I think that's something that we want to stick to as a district to hold that so I think it it holds up our agreement with our communities right but those are my comments I don't know if anybody else had any other comments about that currently changes currently just so you know on the read LED as it reads right now we can leave it in there too no school activity is to take place on Wednesday night or on Sunday without permission of the superintendent these times are set aside for family activities if the superintendent permits any exceptions to this policy notice shall be given to the board so that we do have that actually we can leave it as is I think we go above and beyond that I mean you always reach out to everybody if we have to do something on this but I don't want to give you the impression that we're right trying to get rid of those so he practices that was about no sense and I'm truly fine with leaving it in there I mean I think we should leave it in because that's what we're committed and want to stay with yeah and so it doesn't see any point now I don't want to if in six years and when some of us aren't here and this policy is not there and they don't even know why it disappeared well the reason is very valid some school districts may not want Wednesdays and Sundays but yeah I want if that's going to be a direction that gets changed later that they at least have to address that we've said it right so do we you can because we're not we're not approving them as presented the exception available or as amended and and Christy and I will go back through those well the LED as well as filling in those spots there that we've just talked about as amended with the exceptionability family night okay I think that would be fun for is there any other discussion or comments I'll go ahead and I don't know if Chris is move to approved ksb policy updates as presented with the exception of the LED policy as amended with the exception of Emily Polson no second sorry okay you're back well I was looking at the documents have a hard time we gotcha motion passes 6-0 move on to negotiations it's a quick 10 minutes from this just to get some feedback please motion recess and executive session for 10 minutes to discuss certified contracts percentage to the exemption for employee and employer negotiations on our equivalent return to open session in this room at the end of time including Craig Marshall and Lindsey Graff second question thank you guys interested [Music] on the show foreign
we really appreciate the community support of that tax credit program and those flyers are actually sitting in the hallway to go out for our tax credit solicitation this month and there's 12 000 of them something like that yeah signed off on that so that's what we hope 691 fund that's the fund that uh superintendent mentioned we've got all these school facilities board projects and this is also a cash flow so as soon as we get cash pushed in today we send out well we got approval for 101 000 they wire it to the county they'll let checks to our architect for the HVAC systems Wednesday morning and then the cash will go back to zero so as soon as we get it we spend it on those exact invoices so we've only accumulate cash there expenses year to date uh you add the 101 000 now about almost 384 000 that we spent there and received from that fund and the last one we got behind a little bit 959 we have a youth transition project at the high school and for about a year almost a year my office was in close contact with these folks but they have too many turnaround uh so much turnaround that staff that presented check yesterday for 33 600 and you'll see that fund become a little more healthy where you have revenue and cash and then we can move expense into there and this is one of the funds that our operating fund puts on it it's back and just carries through salary and there's three folks that are paid from that fund so once we get the cash we push it back we can move the expense any questions on our cash fund balances just a couple more things then if we look at the two-page report and it ends at January and it's the one that ends with the the 7.7 million starting February it's called our fiscal year cash flow there's a little line I put there right at the halfway down Point 16.4 million of Revenue here to date and 14.4 million expense here today so that's a good sign uh two million dollars ahead on Revenue but we know a lot of that is some of these Federal programs that uh of really the benefit of the district and they bring cash and expense in but again some of that's maybe a little bit unrealistic with just regular operation because all all revenues are coming there and then the last was is our regular cash balance fund and this is just cash all funds and you see at this point 7.7 million for the year some options and that's that's all I have for this financial report fantastic would you like to go ahead and go into the Student Activity fund yes as well um and our employees our play that does this has had some health issues so we apologize for the January one being uh the December one being late and we've just included that here as well if you look at the bottom of the December Student Activity fund you see an extensive 32.90 that's for a wrestling tournament that we sponsor at Mile High at Brad that's at Bradshaw Mountain High School it's at actually Findlay Toyota Center Toyota Center and that's done so then that encumbrance for December was spent so at the end of January there's not nothing in coverage to them that simple we've got several you see the 3840 still at the high school student council there's a number of activities that they're always working on at the high school end of the year too yep and that's our summary that's accurate up to date these are running totals that are live and the balances uh or again at the bottom 135 000 end of January Student Activities no thank you thank you okay item number seven a through G consent agenda you could have a motion to go through tonight's consent ago make a motion to approve tonight agenda all in favor second president all in favor aye aye item eight a Personnel report so prior to the supplement which is which is on your desk which is strictly all coaches so we have our Supreme Court coaches that we're beginning to hire um we had one new classified I'm sorry certified three new classified one new classified sub six resignations one retiring and uh I'm sorry three retiring one certified change four classified changes one one coach plus the supplements and then 49 timesheets it's actually gone down I think a little bit from where we have been on that so um it's beginning that time of year where we'll start getting resignations and retirements as people decide to to move on at the same time we're hoping to bring people on board um to fill those spots so what was the contract deadline for Simon what will happen is at the March board meeting on the 8th you will issue contracts so April 8th they are dealing oh okay yeah they have I want that so we'll we'll know by April 8th how good or bad we are as far as retention staff correct and and we are really the principals are doing a really good job about letting the staff know hey if you know let us know so that we can get these openings out there and start hiring people because the earlier the better um and then people are people are looking they really are they're out there seeing what's what's available and uh so we we need to find that out and so people are being um uh respectful to the district by allowing us by letting us know so we appreciate that the second second all in favor all right item eight B grow your own employee incentive program so this was a a program that you all approved earlier this year this fiscal year this is where we have our classified staff who have not yet earned their bachelor's degree we assist them in getting their Bachelors agreed and they owe us a certain number of years based on the years in the program and so we've identified a couple applicants that have that we feel um show a high probability of a success and we're excited about these and so we want to really promote their their um continuing their or starting their education and any way we can so this will just be approving these two employees for the employees incentive program that's awesome any questions or comments regarding this all right it is it is an action item I will make the motion for the approval of applications for the employee incentive program for Cheryl spark and David Heyman a second we have a motion and a second all in favor aye item 9A revoke the results-based funding plan Dr Moody and the president members of the board um as a supplement shows we were blessed and we never know when this is going to come I guess but we were blessed by the state to receive some results-based funding money that is based on um achievement of students that is to say how they perform in state Assessments in conjunction with free and reduced lunch and some demographic issues and this year we were given 809.23 take out my mortgage payment um and I am seeking approval uh board approval for um the spending of that money now it is by Statute only to be spent for um enhancement expansion or replication of the school site actions that are already taking place to enhance student performance um and and we can do that either by expanding our site or improving what we're doing at our site and the majority of those bunnies um supposed to be used for teachers teacher salaries hiring new teachers professional development um and and those things that help close the achievement Gap um for students we have a variety of things that we at Del Rio want to do to promote continued achievement and and better what we're doing on campus and I just have a few of these and I put descriptions there for you but just a brief overview uh we'd like to offer a performance-based stipend this is based on student performance and individual grade levels and in individual departments across campus and that would be twenty two hundred dollars at the end of this year twenty two hundred dollars uh per teacher and eleven hundred dollars prepare a professional based on student performance and paraprofessional attendance um we also um as you know um you guys approve social studies and science curriculum which we now have and that is fantastic and we're looking forward to getting pallets of that at some point here in the near future on Thursday they were all counted by 6 30 on Thursday outstanding put them in the back of my truck let's go through the record 30 pallets of curriculum materialism and the order is not complete it all hasn't come yet is the size of a big yellow school bus that's how that's how big 30 pallets are yeah so I got a big trucks never mind I'll take it back um but um we're going to use some of this money um as we're incorporating and and I'm doing a lot more across curricular education in our classrooms between the science and social studies and reading writing and subsequently math we'd like to spend some of this in that professional development realm for teachers to plan out and map the curriculum and how they're going to integrate it across today um we also as you're you're well aware um we have Friday school which is offered to those students who were trying to push um to the next level and to better their performance um right now this last Friday school we had 83 kids there and it was a madhouse Bedlam and awesome every single moment of it and that's from 8 to 12 and we'd obviously like to be able to reward our staff for being there because that is a volunteer Duty and we also on our campus have two teachers who are paid for by this fund and obviously we want to keep them on campus um we'd also just a few additional things here um we'd like to use this for some subscriptions especially in the title classes that we have um computer uh based curricular enhancement that some kids are using especially those kids who are at different levels some high achieving students in the title that we're trying to move back into the regulatory classroom generally and some of those lower students that we want to get back up to grade level and then that you need a computer to be able to do that and while the district does a very good job of providing us with computers we'd like to be able to increase our our capacity to do that um on our campus so with all that said obviously a few things are still outstanding what computers are costing and and what's available what we need and what's aging out and we're doing an inventory of that right now um things like Friday school that's going to be based on how many kids we feel need that um you know and if 12 kids are showing up I I don't need 12 teachers and so that would be great but um and then subsequently curriculum mapping that's going to be dependent on um you know how quickly those sorts of things get done and then obviously stipend anytime we get an opportunity to give our teachers a little bit extra um I think we should so um I'm asking obviously that you approve these items in conjunction with my mortgage payment again just kidding just kidding we'll hire a bigger truck or buy a bigger truck right that's what I need a forklift and a semi any questions congratulations thank you it's totally all my staff your territorial was in the running we'd be they can't be so congratulations to you it's not me at all it's totally my teachers awesome stuff that is for sure every comments questions over here I am curious how many years in a row have we received money like this three or four this is the fourth I think this is the fourth yeah and has it been varying an amount or pretty close to the same yeah it varies because it's based on the number of students that's that's right the demographic apps nope I will go ahead and make the motion to prove the Del Rio school results-based funding plan fantastic motion name is second all in favor um thank you item 9B approval of cbhs 20 23 2024 course description good evening Madam president and government board members um so this is our 20 um 23 24 course description um overall anything in yellow has been added or changed and red will be deleted I'm just going to take you to some of the more important items um so on page um four we've gone ahead and been given more detail into the CVH Honors Academy program and then we went ahead and changed our um college classes are concurrent enrollment to include a sophomores it was previously students had to be Juniors but we've went ahead and reduced it to sophomores because we do have some students with approval of the counseling department and a minimum GPA of 3.0 some of our students want to start early to pursue their ajet classes so we are supportive of that foreign we went ahead and our our um the change of our YC English class um instead of having the sports and literature we're going to have major issues in world literature and that's also on page 28 because we also have our items in English and also on our dual enrollment courses so they're in two sections also on page 13 we went ahead and changed our AG year one um it was so that automatically be enrolled in year two we don't do that anymore because we find it very um unsuccessful for the student if they're not having that buy-in um and that's also that same change will be under C under the CTE section but under AG year 2 at that one we automatically enroll them in the third year because they made that two-year commitment yeah on page 17 um because we have a new art teacher that she went ahead and gave more detail into the art classes art one art two and then on page 18. um our portfolio ceramics this is a quick quick note you just approved you hopefully you recognize that you approved an increase in the art um fee so as part of the consent agenda there was a increase in RP that's why there's two numbers there yeah we'll go ahead and change it to 25 so thank you we still are very um reasonable on the I checked on the two neighboring districts they start at 30 and they go all the way up to 80.
um and uh those were two-story walls and then this one in essence is a three-story uh living wall that's that's quite big and what's unique about this one is that it actually the water is coming from a rain harvesting system cistern that we have so we're collecting the rain water and we're using um the rain water that's collected from our campus I think it's important to note too we're talking about the wellness center and the swipes are just to get into the fitness part so our stairs and the Gathering Place and all of that if you walk through there it's it's packed it is absolutely packed in overnight this has become the primary place on campus that students just want to be and want to hang out it's exactly what we wanted yeah Friday night about three weeks ago and it was it was amazing we had there was probably 150 kids on the first floor in the common area you went into the field house on court one we had kids warming up for the pack swimming we had going on on court two was a warm-up court for the conference Dance Competition that was going on with JV and varsity and then courts three four five and six were Junior Patriot basketball games it was it was amazing yeah and then I'm curious about a bubble tea selling how about that bubble tea bubble tea and the acai bowls yeah acai bowls are yeah still flying off the shelf s yeah tell us about that okay moving along yeah thank you thank you thank you so much uh just a couple more items uh before we let you go uh just find a note um that March 3rd is our consortium-wide professional development day so uh you know that our three largest feeder districts District 96 102 and 103 and us here at Stevenson we all block usually that first Friday in March as our consortium-wide Institute day and every other year we do um under the leadership of Casa and our own Mark honest check we do a consortium-wide professional development day so you can see um the work that Mark and his team have put together to offer learning opportunities for each of our divisions on that day so thank you Mark for all that hard work we appreciate you um also you can see uh a current enrollment report uh you'll see that currently we have four thousand well I don't want to say currently I'll say on February 8th because this number moves this moves so often uh on February 8th we had 4 542 students uh here on here uh enrolled at Stevenson the enrollment projections were for 4 563.
and as you can see we go from 164 the next one 74. so there's there's a significant drop between four and five but from there it goes special education director 74 Finance business manager 60 that's probably because you have a good one and it's not an issue uh curriculum specialist 51 leadership position outside the district 45 prior experience doesn't matter right fit was 44 and Human Resources Director was 24 or 6 percent but you can see that the top four responses which is what drove the language and the brochure about you know superintendent experience preferred and administrative experience preferred in classroom teaching experience required those that's what drove that information the brochure as far as the minimum qualifications foreign the next question talked about 11 areas of expertise that a superintendent Canada might possess in this question the participants were asked to rank each one again as critically important above average of average below average importance of relatively unemployment and the top vote yet is here were goal setting strategic planning and implementation with 309 and what the 140 and 169 numbers represent is the first number represents someone identified it is critically important and the second number is that above average importance so those are the two numbers that drove the higher ranking budget development management was 3 308 with a 140 168.
no I think you're probably 120 550 would be on the low end that's the design documents Dan to well I mean I think that would be 150 and and you know engineering it yeah for I don't know if that would even get you to design documents I mean we'd have to look at a couple uh a couple examples I mean we can pull some recent projects that have been done around um four upgrades but I mean the size of the building the footprint the layout I mean you can look at another building in the same square footage but if it has a completely different layout it's really yeah yeah there's there's no simple answer to it I mean it's not just the layout 1650 in there to see if it's stuck yeah you can at least get off the ground with it yeah I mean it's the it's all the due engineering due diligence the load calcs all of that that you know that that's a lot of that's a lot of hours so all right 150 how does that sound as a as a ballpark I mean nobody's going to hold you to this they're going to hold me to the number um yeah so my one caution on it is or request I guess is so we put something in here do you think you could put out some feelers and try to get a better idea of a number not for tomorrow but for you know a few months from now when the council is actually moving forward on it and then they could say yay or nay but we could give them a better number unless you think 150 is reasonable and a minute ago Dan you didn't think well you weren't sure what this would be so I definitely can tell you with certainty and at 50 is isn't going to get you past you know getting yeah getting something not to get to yeah not to get to this guy I mean the best that you could do rich I mean you've you had CES involved is you can have them give you something of an opinion a probable cost for for design yeah and they they did that huh yeah I don't know if they included that I'll have to double check and they might already have the number and and you'd want to add something into that for contingency because again that's just the opinion upon probable cost so I I would be totally comfortable like voting in support of this sending this over to the town manager and the town manager has I believe until March 10th to give it to uh to give the capital budget to the council so you have another month there to even give it to the town manager as his own recommendation and he I mean the town manager and the superintendent can have conversations and change these budget numbers and I don't think any of us are going to be I'm I'm not concerned about it I don't know if anybody else would be if you get a better number and that gets put into this right for the March 10th delivery to the council but even after that Tim once you know I mean the planning committee and then the board approves that we put together the numbers we send it over to the town manager when we begin deliberations with the council we always adjust numbers and we can continue to do that so yeah we do have that time even if my point is even if it goes to the town manager as a set number it'll be adjusted by the time we complete the capital budget approval process okay okay all right thank you so then what are we looking at 3.4 is that what he said you're looking at right now you're at 3 million five hundred fifty five thousand in Year One uh because we made some we eliminated some line items a total five-year proposal is 52 million one hundred thirty five thousand I'm gonna just blow up the screen here a little bit more so if you could see that this is where we are year by year yeah but the three million 555 000 that's what we would be you know requesting funding for the rest of the years two through five those are those are placeholder dollars they're not um there would be no funds committed to that okay so we're looking at Todd boiler High School windows Yep I can just run through that quickly also okay the items that we've included year one are Dodd boiler replacement six hundred thousand right element classroom expansion for Highland and Doolittle three hundred thousand Highland you know masonry and a brick facade work 150 000.
wow so we are we are making ensure that our kids can um can pursue their um interest in art and um so we're excited about that and then on page 20 we're going to be removing interest Scholastic Sports next year we're finding that our coaches for the most part are after school and it's hard with the students when the season ends then they want to leave we changing schedules is a nightmare trying to keep everything balanced um so that is a change and then on page um that's also been touched on page 24 we we're still holding out that maybe we can add another ZTE program but for right now we're going to take out drafting design and because a lot of our students didn't understand what's um and that's on page 24 and 25 I'm sorry cyber security we just called it computer network technology cyber security to be more clear to our students possible and then on page 26 um our business classes again it's all going to be up to whether we can find teachers to go ahead and teach those subjects on page um 32 we just gave more detail to our office our office counselor library of cafeteria Aid or um or student AIDS so that we know that they can be in one of four areas it just used to say student AIDS and then work study we went ahead and we're going to have this them sign a contract um because we're finding that students aren't getting their hours and then as far as showing proof of employment before they even start in work study and then turning in their timesheets to us and that is it great um one quick question and it's a disappointment look on my face I'm presumably because the deletion of all the references to drafting that you've not been able to find a permanent drafting instructor how sad it is it makes me sad but we're still looking Mr Prater and I feel um you mean that but we um that were it's just difficult to find somebody that wants to come in that has that background [Music] all right any other comments or questions from this wolf this also is an action item I will make the motion for the purple the 20 23 2024 cvhs course description Motion in a second all in favor all right thank you very much thank you all right item 9C safe dates curriculum Miss Daniels for the Valentine Day dance for the next two hours as we drive away we'll be thinking of you for watching videos so as you know um way back several months ago we approved the safe dates curriculum the health department provides the instructors and the content there were two little pieces that they forgot to include when you guys reviewed it so we opened it back up again it's been sitting out on the counter for 60 days here's a big staff Miss Bryce it's all yours and this time no one came to look at it at all so um just wanted to let you know that's our 60 days are more than up and we're asking for approval of the two little supplemental pieces that deal with safe dates that are focused on communication and respectful relationships oh fantastic okay uh any questions on this I think we've already talked about it before I'll go ahead and make the motion to approve the safe date supplement curricular materials second yes everybody all right all in favor all right um item 10A is information only first reading of there's actually going to be two policies and a regulation we're going to start with Larry who will bring discuss gcca and then I'll talk about ebb and ebb.com it's just so you know I was not a half sex thank you madam president members of the board so before you hopefully you see a proposed revision to policy gcca which is in reference to our differentiated leave this was an item that came out of seac I know it was mentioned earlier before was voted on uh basically in a nutshell it's just uh reducing the maximum number of leave hours Bill to from 960 to 480.
so pretty darn close um they continue to do um thank you Alex they continue to do a really great job our projected uh enrollment for our freshman class is 1125 but those are puts in seats so to speak correct that does not include the on average of anywhere from 50 to 75 sometimes 100 students that would be on the high end with interest rates the way they are it may be on the lower end of 50 kids moving into the district but I wouldn't be surprised if that number was 1200 freshmen for next year so we just wanted to share that with you that we continue to have a growing enrollment and that decision Insight continues to be fairly accurate and we have another report coming in about a month right so wanted to share that with you tomorrow and then uh also just wanted to make note although we won't ask you to approve uh the calendar for board meetings for next year until we are allowed to do so in May uh we will be recommending that the June board meeting be moved to Tuesday June 12th um due to the Juneteenth holiday so we just want to make you aware of that it's tentative right now but that is a required um non-school day for schools in the state of Illinois so um sorry yeah June 12th that would be a Monday though any people no no 12th which is going to be a Monday so we will finalize that but Monday June 12th is what even though we're not in school anyway we're in summer school okay we're ready someone thank you second thanks for checking all in favor
curriculum development and evaluation 301 with a 159 142 special education was 296 with 123 141 and collected bargaining was 282 with 141 141. and you can see with the breakdowns uh the the difference between the parents and the employees numbers broke down as well as the town employees um in fact when you look at the Town employees there was the number one response was goal setting strategic planning and implementation and then there were five others one tied with five votes and those were budget development curriculum development facilities public relations and collective bargaining those are the five we talked a little bit about question six already but again experiences and skill areas it would be important when evaluating superintendent candidates again critically important above average so forth and the number one item was ability to develop and direct an effective administrative team with 366 votes or 259 and 107 259 people thought that that was critically important for the next superintendent of the schools uh to have that experience or skill set understanding recognizes good teaching was second with 362.
