is myself Eddie John Michelle Terry and Kate all right I don't see anything on my end Eddie all right hi Michelle how you doing Mr Austin hi Kate hi Michelle happy Wednesday all right on the agenda we'd like to reconcile the finances for 20 January 2023 John it's all yours sir if you like take it away or heaven with as you like to make an opening statement I'll do the same thing you just did Mr Russo and say John take it away yeah well and it'll give you the uh the details from the line items and things like that um I I would say um it's uh the same pretty much the same story as uh a month ago things have been pretty steady as we've gone through the winter so Ed why don't you take us through the line items we lose Ed there you are you can you hear me Ed it or Ed can you hear us okay all right sounds like you're muted we can't hear you yeah you're on twice you're not coming through ready Julie hello everybody and you're shown up twice oh me oh me can you see me now that's good this is good now you can hear me okay um do you see my shared screen I share the agenda with all the backup information you guys see that yes you can see that okay thank you uh good afternoon everyone sorry technology right I have two screens open looks like um so we're uh we're speaking about January 31st our financials for January um as you can see uh with the school year halfway 89 of our budget has been um spent or unencumbered in this point or encumbered in our line items um we continue to see unfilled vacancy positions um which as we get through the reports you'll see there's um a possible um Surplus in there because of these on unfilled vacancy positions um we are continue recruiting as we're hearing Across the Nation um it's it's it continues to be tough um we're praying for the best as the year comes to an end uh the next line is um we brought up last month about requesting to the board about a board a budget transfer of two million dollars of unspend funds to cover uh student computers and uh replacing some of the printing copiers equipment here in the District so that's something that we plan on bringing to the board this coming um probably for next month um and then we're keeping a close eye on our energy expenses um as we all know it's you know I think on Sunday we had 60 something degrees and then you know the day after it was like in the 20s so uh we're seeing some Savings in there possibly um hopefully that continues so I'll jump into the backup of all the information in regards to the line items first page is really you know we're working with a budget currently of 141 million as mentioned before what's uh expended what's encumbered and then that 14 million dollars is really what's unencumbered um a lot of it is health insurance and also as I mentioned earlier unfilled vacancy positions foreign just like any other month here's our uh our summary report of our general funds from our salaries to benefits to Professional Service down to our supplies in our total amount what's remaining uh and the same thing for the grants and as I mentioned before the 14 million is really what's unencumbered at this point a lot of it is as I mentioned just a few minutes ago is a health insurance and really um the unfilled vacancies and as we go through um just like any other month it's just our reports you'll see some in the positives some in the negatives that's normal just very similar to a year ago this point um as long as the bottom line comes to a positive number or in the Plus um so as I scroll through and then there are grants same thing you'll see some areas where there may not be a budget amount that's because uh some of these grants we receive funding after whether it's from the state or local funding from for example Educational Services that budget goes in throughout the year or Medicaid or the funding refunds come in reimbursement coming after there's your total in regards to what grants are that total amount is includes s or that's the majority of it is our s or funds for sr3 which um we still have a year and a half left of it uh and sr2 which expires as of this uh June 30th of this year are there any questions Teresa the RL I think you're on mute um the the two million I thought was going to go to the new reading program reading program the the reading program um that was part of uh the Esser funding from sr2 that's something that um we have submitted to the state correct me if I'm wrong John we had to um submit to the state a new app a revised application explaining this is what we wanted to do and that has been done calculated gotten everything ready I want casimiro to look at it one more time before it goes up to the state so it goes up to the state okay in a matter of days in a matter of days and it's correct it would be that yes or two funding source so I thought everything was going to be everything was rolled into into that Esser function foreign [Music] the two million um that we are anticipating we will have fully before this year ends is because of the unfilled positions and as part of our strategy for the 23-24 school year we're looking to buy down on some of those items that we need for next year so that that's the two million dollar strategy the reading program that um you're referring to is the SO2 monies um that we also have extra from because we don't have a many of the things that we committed to whether that's Staffing or whether those are strategies like um strategies like the Brookfield site we want to use that money to buy down on the reading program so we're as part of our adjustment with the state we've looking to include that in the adjustment and assuming that is approved we will have a way to pay for the reading programs without using our general fund Monies so um the the replacement will be of the computers and copiers uh phase one so to speak yes for the uh computers yes just for this year um to get us through um John can speak you know a little bit more in detail just in terms of The copier lease package um and then also the computers but for year one um I think we estimated a million dollar cost for next year all right John uh you're on mute um so so we'd like to put both of these things on five year five to seven year replacement Cycles um one of the advantages and disadvantages of the pandemic is we're now uh what we'll call a one-to-one district or one uh Chromebook for every student but they don't last uh forever they're great it's not the kind of thing you want to go backwards on but you know you need to replace so many each year or so that will be a continuing plan and same with the copiers which are really our printers is what we use we print from our computers and uh we haven't replaced any in a long time we think it's uh uh bigger need in we're looking at than if we had done some a few every year we'd have so we want to avoid uh spikes in any one year we have to replace a lot of them and I agree with a smoother bases yeah I agree with you 100 I just want to know where we are on your schedule yeah so this would be the beginning this would be the first year for both thank you um John the the uncomfortable amount of 14 million seven eighty two is my understanding it's a lot of it is unfilled uh employment vacancies and benefits I sum that money and benefits money actually at risk to be spent during the rest of the school year is or are those benefit monies uh noted in the 14 million 782 uh in anticipation if you fill all the vacancies so are these are they that money's totally unencumbered if we don't fill the vacancies um no because uh what what we do is you know we're self-insured uh meaning whatever and we do it through Cigna cigna's you know if you went to the doctor you'd fill out a Signa form and they'd be the one writing the check but when you're self-insured instead of just paying a a premium per month to in this case Cigna we pay the actual claims that come in that are incurred and we'll get a a bill from them each week and so I think Eddie last time last week was over five hundred thousand dollars five hundred thousand dollars um and then so if there are I don't know uh 18 weeks left that 500 000 there could be you know 9 million in expenses that would come out of that line okay remember all of that is at yeah my point yeah so it is at risk if insurance claims additional insurance claims come through between not the end of the year which yeah and we expect we meet with um our consultant Gallagher um every month and they give us a and actuarials I'm saying that writes um opinion of how claims are going and where we think they're going to end up so we're we're getting advised in a in a real-time basis so if something were to changed dramatically for the worse uh we certainly would have that information to to bring back to you and tell you what's going on and why oh thank you further Mr Russo could I ask a question please hey I'm sorry I can't see you that's okay I'm not on screen today I'm not on screen today so I just used my raised hand here um I I just and I know you guys are not the the HR team here so um forgive me if I'm asking a question that really isn't doesn't fall under your purview but when we talk about these positions that are going unfilled um can you give us any kind of breakdown as to what we're looking at because I'm looking at obviously this the salaries line and that's sort of how I'm you know trying to get a sense of of what's outstanding um you know in these details below like you could see that we're running um you know a credit on uh an unencumbered balance of 173 000 for assistant superintendents um but we're also running like for regular teachers uh 1.8 million so right and the other one is the the guidance the counselors which is up above that um so it's it's likely that you know much of those monies will remain at the end of the year uh we you know we do have higher substitute costs because those positions are unfilled and of course we need to teach the classes um I think we talked to you during the budget process about what we call overloads where a teacher who might have a a six period day uh will enlist them for a seven period day and they'll they'll take on a higher load but you have to pay something for that so there's a cost that goes with having those two lines unused but you're right those are the lines to look at that's where the money's going to come from and and I guess what I'm trying to figure out is like in in assessing those numbers and thank you for pointing out the counseling line because that is obviously very substantial as well um and we've had a lot of conversations about the mental health piece and whether or not we're providing enough services to our students what I'm trying to get a sense of is like how many positions are we talking about for example for that counseling line well um I don't think we're we're down as many countries that if you could mute for a minute um one of the things we did during the budget cut last June was move some positions over uh into Esser and some of those were support positions uh like the counselors so Kevin could talk to this but I I think most of our counselor positions are filled it might be a leave or something going on but we'd like more and I think we've asked for some more next year but um most of most of the vacancies are in other areas thanks John and Kate the the vast majority of our vacancies are in the paraprofessional group where I think we have upward of 35 to 40 plus um parents who sitting in you know we have vacant in those positions uh remain vacant um I can only think of one guidance Council position that we're down right now um offhand I can't speak to the other people Personnel staff members the positions that were down I I do know that were vacant special ed teachers I don't have an exact number for this conversation um but we can get a little bit more clarity around the positions that are open okay thanks Mr Wilson and I guess a quick follow-up to that if I may uh Mr Russo sir I'm ma'am yes please um my my I guess my follow-up question to that is um you know we have talked about the increased needs for um Mental Health Care um and for paraprofessionals uh given that we haven't we're seeing an increased need from our student population um so is this a case where you know we're building we've built our budget around the dollars that have been allotted and so we only a lot certain positions based on that those dollars that we know we're going to be operating with versus being able to at some point decide okay well we know we have this additional need um you know and I understand like I I'm looking at it from a perspective it's probably pretty hard to Pivot mid-year and say okay we have this money that we we didn't expect to have um and try to find somebody Midway through the year but I just want to make sure I understand correctly certain mechanics here that we we set the budget at the beginning of the year um based on what we have uh received from the city and from the state and then the number of positions that we allow is based on you know those dollars so we kind of move forward from there and base our open positions you know around what that is versus say the specific need that we have in the population wow right so Kate if I

Garcia Medina uh director of Educational Services uh who's going to give us um a high-level presentation on where we are mid-year in the out cap this is something that Azusa Unified School District uh does as a service uh to our community to our staff so that we can hold ourselves accountable about reporting now where we are kind of in the mid-year of our outcap um and so with that I'd like to sort of over to miss Garcia Medina all right uh good evening uh Dr Beau a board of education members uh Abnet and attendees I am excited to be here uh this afternoon late afternoon to share with you our uh January update our progress that we've made as a district towards our out in order for us to spend our supplemental and concentration funds uh we need to provide a three-year lcap plan and with that plan is included our district goals what we use to measure our progress towards those goals what funding we uh will we what funding will be spent as we work to meet those goals and additionally the actions and services that are applied to each of those goals um this is the second year of our lcap um next year will be our third year and today we're going to be sharing with you an overview of each of the goals actions and services and progress that we've made our first goal a 6-2 provide our students with outstanding learning environments and this means that we have to look at how we provide instruction for students and how we support our teachers and administrators to provide these outstanding learning environments we want to make sure through this goal that we're providing safe and positive places for our students while at the same time growing academically and supporting their social emotional needs vertical one some of the metrics that we use to measure progress include some basic services here you see that we are measuring instructional materials as well as facilities we're working to meet standards in both of these areas you'll see that four standards align instructional materials we're at 100 percent and for sale or facilities inspection results we're at 79 at the at the end of three years our goal is to be at 96 or higher or facilities ratings we do work with an outside agency to conduct facility inspections at each of our elementary and secondaries and Middle School sites and again we're partnering with our maintenance and operation team to ensure that we continuously improve our facilities so we can continue to see that number increase another metrics that we use is data from our annual YouTube survey this slide shows you some examples of survey questions that we present to our students and our parents uh the first is parents a sense of safety on campus as well as student sense of safety on campus we also ask if students are feeling challenged by the coursework that we are presenting and you can see that this reflects uh data from the 2021 and 2022 school year we just finished administration of this survey the window just closed at the end of February I'm sorry at the end of January and will we expect to receive results on this survey in March and we'll be able to share that with the board and the public another measure that we introduced last year was a professional learning communities and this is where teachers meet to analyze data and to determine what needs students have and to for inform instruction this is the second year that we've been implementing this process to collect data and so far you can see that 87 percent of the time that we're meeting of its monthly plc's and when we are meeting we're using data 89 of the time to inform uh instructional shifts so 91 of those plcs are leading to introductional decisions so that means that we're planning next steps for our students some of the actions and services that are tied to goal one include a professional learning opportunities for our teachers and administrators our professional learning that we've provided is centered around our three academic success drivers which are collaborative practices a cognitive rigor and academic discourse our teachers on special assignment have done a fabulous job of partnering with our staff to ensure that we are providing support and a job embedded coaching to make instructional shifts in the classroom we've also uh had our teachers on special assignment provide demonstration lessons and protocols where they're analyzing data with administrators and with teachers as well some of the course offerings that are tied to go one include offering Spanish and art at the middle school and also offering latinx studies at all of our high school some of the purchases that uh some of the purchases that we've aligned um are supplemental materials and supplies and focused on literacy and also on science this next slide shows you expenditures that are typable one as of January 2023 um and you can see that we are within budget for a cold one our second goal for uh alcat is to increase and improve the district's partnership with our parents and our students we value um partnership with our community and we want to ensure that we're working collaboratively to create these opportunities and that we're increasing opportunities for our families and our students to be leaders in our districts and at our site some of the metrics that are tied to go one include student engagement here you see our attendance rate that is a current rate as of December 2022 this is an ongoing measure that continuously change changes as attendance changes you also see that we are monitoring chronic absenteeism suspension rate expulsion rate high school and middle school dropout rate and these are also as of December 2020.

um believe that when families engage with meaningful communities with connections they feel a sense of belonging in addition of building a community connections for families create strong support and networks promotes respect and bringing children and their families together our PTO at Monte Vista we focus in trying our trying to make our events affordable and the way that our families will be able to attend all our community engagements and events for example we had a trunk or treat that was free we also had a movie night that was free the only thing that was charged was the popcorn and some of the drinks we were also so happy to have our family sweetheart dance this year which we only charged a dollar for the families to be able to event and also a low-cost food truck that was there available towards the end of the year is to have a family picnic and we can invite all parents for free to spend the day with their children and spend um reading our PTO members are also volunteers on our campus for the last past year so they're very involved I would like to present to you our Monte Vista Treasure um Olivia Herman hola my name is [Music] pitio ontarios and Escuela Los Angeles thank you so much I'm going to try to be quick no she translated first and then she said in Spanish word okay perfect you want to make sure um so I know we've had a creative definition of 12 minutes so I'm going to try to go very quickly um through the behavior landscape but please feel free to ask any questions um feel Rush that's what we're here okay so I mean if if we get to 11 p.m like yeah if we get to 11 pm I'll order us all Pizza um so ultimately we wanted to give you a very like thoughtful and honest um glance glance wow it's Glimpse at the behavior landscape that we have at Monte Vista we have been focusing a lot on our tier one interventions for our students um so we're going to spend a little bit of time talking about tier one interventions but then we will spend some time talking about tier three students and the challenges we've had in addressing those needs and what our plan is moving forward um a big part of our tier one instruction uh revamp was through PBIS refresh so we have spent time spending with our committee creating school-wide Behavior expectations if you look on the screen it's the nine locations so now we have a unified message of expectations in those nine areas additionally we worked on making sure that everybody's on the same page through the use of universal hand signals attention getters and also volume levels so anyone can walk into a room and address behaviors in a way that the students are aware of and understand we've also spent a lot of time working on our discipline flow map which ultimately is deciding what are the tier one teacher managed behaviors versus the tier two office managed behaviors I'm using Tier 1 and tier two in two different ways in that case that's just the classification of behaviors when we talk about tier one and tier three we're primarily talking about the students and their level of intervention needs so we do have Miss Goga here she's our child Justice Advocate para she's going to share a little bit about what it's like doing this work um with our students hi my name is Alexis Goga and I am honored and I am blessed to be one of the child Justice Advocate parents at Montevista my job has a lot of moving Parts um but one of the most important parts are the restorative conversations that I have with students that means I use these conversations to have each student have an opportunity to let each other student use their voice but also as an opportunity to actively listen to one another so with that being said when needed I will jump in and you know give guidance where needed or if students need clarification on what the other student is saying that's when I'll kind of jump in and be like oh this this is what's going on at the end of each conversation it is up to the students on the type of relationship that they want to have with one another that being a co-worker a an acquaintance or a friendship with that being said I always do let them know that that is something that can change over time but I do let them know that no matter what they do need to Advocate and set boundaries for themselves thank you I have a question I think I might prefer Eric um do all the schools have parents for their CJs or only Monte Vista question Madam president members of the board yes all of the schools have these paraprofessional positions they actually staffed them first these tied directly back to our pandemic Relief Fund priorities so that we could provide some immediately immediate intervention and relief while we added the instructional components through the certified teaching Advocates thanks um so just some outcomes of that we have found that the students who are tier one who basically are responding well to teacher manage interventions has been improved and also the students that we are seeing they're not as many repeat offenders in our tier one and tier two so we did see a decrease from last year what we did want to be like very honest and open about is we are seeing that we have an area of focus and growth for our increase of tier three students um the reality is we've had a high increase of those the number of students and the severity of behaviors we're seeing are atypical to what we've seen pre-covered and then lastly some of these issues are very uncommon and they're also just outside of the normal teacher experience um I don't think that's fair to say not normal but our common experience that we've had so it's just struggling through grappling with how to address those behaviors is something that our team is continuing to work on with the teachers one of the things that we have been focusing on is strengthening our cell Partnerships through care Solace that has been a great addition to our programming they are doing a wonderful job getting to our families very quickly the reality is when we are dealing with trauma sometimes it's difficult for the follow-through so we are working with our families to make sure there's follow-through in that and additionally in our South Southwest Behavioral Health Program huge shout out to Miss Janelle Staub she is an amazing counselor and we are very lucky she is working diligently to get through the needs on our campus that being said we do have a we have data that shows that we have double the need that we had in the previous year and she was already working on a full caseload And We additionally have up to 10 students right now who are on the wait list so the need is proving greater than the interventions currently in place but we're just continuing to work and try to figure out how to address that another way that the Southwest Behavioral Health has really helped us is when I speak about the uncommon issues or outside of typical tiered behaviors the reality is is that there are severe mental health issues that typically Educators did not have to respond to in the way that we're requiring a response because kids have needs and we got to meet them so our cell partnership with Southwest Behavioral they have helped us begin to develop up some additional trainings for our teachers in terms of the mental health first aid the program that they have done with us previously but then also trying to find a way to identify if there's a particular mental health issue that we're seeing with this particular student can you provide training and just kind of information to help root our team on like what our supports are and what's really within our capacity because the last thing we want to do is assume and expect that all teachers can be counselors but we do want to provide them with the knowledge because the knowledge will be powered in order to meet those needs so we have one more person Dr G is here with us today and he's just going to talk a little bit about how tier three is impacting our school um it's nice to be here uh to speak with you um I'm the school psychologist at Monte Vista um and uh as you I'm sure you are well aware um a lot of my time you know is spent working with our excellent Special Education team as we work to identify and meet um many of our students unique and educational characteristics and needs through special education um you know a lot of the things that were you know tier three yes um impacting you know we find that it's still within that five you know that five percent marker you know so you have your tier one at 80 your tier two at 15 of kids that you know the pyramid right um our tier three is still within that five percent uh marker but it has increased since last year and how it impacts is um just all these wonderful people that have spoken to you muskoga Miss Apodaca myself when I'm able to um a lot of emergencies a lot of fires um we're sitting in you know I think it's very important to continue to lay down um the systems that we've really in the last couple years have put in place so revisiting PBIS you know uh as it's kind of nestled within the house system you know eventually we're working also to bring you know collaborative and proactive Solutions model um to Behavioral Management which we've already touched on uh last year when um the entire staff we had a training on how to interact with our children in a trauma-informed way because you know we do have a high rate of trauma as well and we certainly see how that plays out you know in our hallways and our front office um but um could you maybe give some examples of the tier three behaviors you're seeing that are uncommon sure um well complete School refusal and not just the beginning of the year right so out of the blue suddenly later in the year so refusal to go in the classroom um classroom allotment um you know um a lot many a lot of what was it a lot of disrespect what were the three main things so the tier three um there's kind of two ways that we look at it one is like the number of office referrals that a student gets the more office referrals or recidivism that we see the more interventions that are put into place um so there's a group of kids who typical behaviors but there's just a lot of them um with the uncommon issues a lot of anxiety right now a lot of students that are um vocalizing or either presenting evidence of self-harm or suicidal ideation um anxiety is very big right now and then um and there's quite a few but I'll stop there um and then in terms of the like big behaviors that we're seeing from our tier three students it is I'll make sure to check my notes um we do have disorderly conduct gross disrespect and deaf science that's what we're seeing in our tier three students and what do you do in the case of school refusal what are the options for the the kid in the family a lot of patience so um working with the child uh working with the parents trying you know the Guardians trying to find um a way to get them more regulated and comfortable continuing to just try to you know we can't pick them up and take them to the classroom right so um I know we um there's a lot of also just creating plans with the teachers and the families so um with our youngers it's inviting parents to come and help them through the difficult times an adjustment of their schedule for some students we have them in the beginning half of the class but then we pull them to work with Miss Goga or to work in the office so that they're getting that quiet space really depends on the student we have some students who have like sensory needs and so really all they're needing is a quiet space where we have some students who their refusal can become like an explosion of emotions and so in that case it's more um just like immediate interventions and triage or Guardian caring adults and of course working to um you know get Miss Janelle stop our counselor through Southwest um referrals hopefully you know she doesn't have that big of a waiting list although these days she has um utilizing carousels which has been wonderful um they're very um attentive you know uh to get families help when they need it I'd be remiss to say especially for our sped Department another big part of it is as the office referrals were to increase or as those behaviors were to increase students are naturally put into their mtss process in which the teacher and their their team are working to determine whether or not other interventions should be put in place in the classroom and ultimately that would move towards for a small group of students um sped testing and possible resource and or could I find definitions of these I guess offenses are they in your handbook are they the one are they specifically from a discipline policies from the district um so it's kind of a twofold if you go I have to ask Dr Dube and help me with this but Arizona has definitions of those things um and I don't quite remember where you would get them but I'm sure we could get you a link um our PBIS committee though does spend time defining those things for ourselves um so that there's a more working definition if you look at the Arizona definitions they can be by off-putting and so we spend some time determining for ourselves with those eye um 15 they have definitions that are separate from the criminal definitions or where do they come from there are definitions for schools and then they tie back to their in our student information and management system and so when behaviors are entered into the system they're they're assigned a category okay so I'd be happy to pull a list to provide that in a coming update okay cool thank you I just I just want to appreciate um the the transparency and like having this conversation in depth because it's not a Monte Vista challenge it's not a Creighton challenge it's something I'm hearing from teachers and administrators at every District throughout the state throughout the country um and so it's just something for like I know we have a lot of conversations about it but we also like as a board and as a District staff we need to really be realizing I think there was a lot of Hope of like we go back to normal and we're just continuing to see these things unfold and and see traumas like you guys have said in in ways that we just didn't before um and in a delayed manner that we I don't think any of us expected um so we just need to be mindful that because also a lot of these supports that we have in place come from Esser um so we need to think about the reality that you know we said we're going to throw all this money at it and it's going to help you know these these first year two years back but we're going to need these supports for quite a long time if I can add to that comment um just like we as staff members are struggling to meet those needs families are also struggling and so the work that all of the CEOs Community the Family Resource Center is doing is to also provide those trainings and those skills and strategies and techniques to all of the families so they can address them because once they trusted their kiddos during the school time when they go back on the weekends at night during breaks the parents are asking what can I do what else can I go what partnership do you have for me and so during my other job that's what we do for parents just also want to add that it's an impact on our teachers and our staff the the constant struggle to know that you have a challenge in your classroom and that that challenge is going to meet you at the door every day at 7 30 they'll be there for breakfast and you don't know what your day is going to be until uh the the chips fall where they are right and so it's not just uh impact on the classroom teachers but also the support services the reading interventionists the resource teachers Administration our staff at the lunch uh playground Duty everyone is dealing with these situations with Grace and love in the best interest of the students at heart and it can be a challenge it can feel overwhelming but I think that you know I for one am proud of how Monte Vista has risen to that challenge and we're not perfect we're not there yet 100 we've got a lot of growing to do but I appreciate that that's where we are at this time so um so this time we would take any questions that you might have it's we did break the hour barrier so any questions or comments yeah I'm just going to say all my um carnival at once I didn't do it separately so um first of all I just want to appreciate you showing us the way to use data to drive instruction um because we all know that that's the best way that um we can help our students grow I absolutely love that sense of community with the houses I've been over at your school before and I think it's amazing and I hope that when I become a principal one day that I can do that system I just think it's totally amazing how your kids are working together especially in a Kate School how everybody works together to appreciate each other um I love the story on inclusion um I think it's amazing I've always done it at my school with one of my teachers and it brings out the best in all students I think um and I just love that you have so many support staff that address the student social emotional learning because we know that it's an issue and that has become more of an issue and it seems like you have a really good support system to help your teachers and that your teachers are supportive as well in that community so I just appreciate all of that thank you for that appreciate it anybody else thank you so much for all the work that you guys do we really appreciate it thank you um that brings us over to 10A um I hope everybody had a opportunity to look at these dates but I moved the governing board approved the attached schedule of governing board meetings for the 2023-2024 school year I I have a couple questions yeah I want to discuss some of them yep um I don't understand why we have only one meeting in November in January that it seemed like that started for a specific reason and then we've just stuck with it we we talked about the number the one meeting in November didn't we yeah that's why election day that's what happened last board meeting in November a lot of uh that's thank you for reminding me that I think that's very important and we haven't taken an election day as a school holiday or anything so that's why we did one date in November I revised some of these in January I don't know I think January has always been just kind of odd because for three months we go with only one meeting a month it hasn't been like that the whole time I mean I mean I guess that would make sense for January if that if the only meeting was at the end of January but it's on January 9th so then I think you have to have it by a certain date because you have to yeah so then I guess I'm saying like what's stopping us from also meeting on January 23rd nothing we've just never done it that way so we can add another meeting but it's just never been I mean I don't want to have another 11 o'clock P.M for a long time and I think that would help prevent you know those very long meetings um the money Vista presentation was great but they these school presentations are getting really long um that's that seems to be a common thing and that's going to make our meetings really long going forward that this is the only thing really we had on the agenda for tonight so um so that's just my thought um that's fine so what we can do is um so instead of can I take my motion back and just take a motion to table this that way we can discuss this further and discussion just kind of discuss it right now so you guys okay you guys want to add a January date that it's up to you guys I will let Lindsay share her piece maybe I also I mean kind of in that I was also looking at the dates because I have to go to my school district's meetings and they do it on the second Tuesday of the month and so it usually works that we do ours on the first and third and there's four months next school year that we do it on the second Tuesday um and some of them it makes sense because of holidays so I know that's unavoidable um which ones are they specifically so September 12th and November 14th December 12th and January 9th are all second Tuesdays of the month um and I know in one person so I don't want to be like we have to move them all I just want to try and avoid as much conflict as I can because this year I've had to do a huge Balancing Act and I want to make sure I'm here for as many meetings as I but if I have to present to my district I have to um that being said like the and I think too like if we had two January meetings that would help alleviate because then I wouldn't feel like I'm missing a huge thing if I have to um September 12th is there a reason why we only have one or why we have why the September one is on the second Tuesday like the November one I understood because of election and Thanksgiving Labor Day so it's really hard for the teachers right after Labor Day to come to prepare after a three three day weekend for a board meeting coming up that Tuesday because Monday is off so we moved it to that second I'm sorry I'm just asking yeah okay yeah I think I think as close as we can stay to our plan schedule as possible is probably best and yeah we can do September 1st and if or sorry help the studies sends wild just proposed we also were mindful that after a full day Saturday typically you wouldn't necessarily want to come back on four days later or a meeting so I know that was a factor but I don't want to step on anybody's toes well we threw that in that's still yeah that's still a full there's a three-day weekend in between yeah because there's the proposed study session is 22 August 26th so that's two weeks so it's three in August and when one in September just to kind of show the balance yeah overall distribution is there a reason why we have the study session in August and not the general it was in July originally yeah to get the year started and to review strategic planning annual goals uh so just to kind of have a year thrust of where are we in getting our year off the ground uh so okay well whoever wants to make the motion I won't be at the February 20th meeting I can tell you that right now so then sorry I'm going to the dates here and then for okay all right so remember we have elections I would I would move to um amend this schedule to um change the September 12th meeting to September 5th and I would also move to amend the schedule to add in a meeting on January 23rd hi second all those in favor can I just forget it really so I'm just looking at my calendar it is also okay to vote later to pull a meeting if the board chooses right you can call an emergency vote uh and you can also move a proposed study session if it feels too crowded for you all right because it says proposed okay are you okay yeah sorry it's okay all those in favor it's okay all those in favor aye aye aye so now we need to go and approve the actual whole new schedule because I was just a motion that we that is no schedule oh I just made a motion to amend I didn't say that we were approving the whole schedule but it's fine in my motion I didn't say we were approved in the whole schedule just in case you go back and check yeah I see what you're saying because that would have been a discussion just on my motion to amend and then we would go forth and then approve the new schedule with the amended just putting it out there but yeah yeah I can do it I move sorry I moved the governing board approved the amended um schedule of governing board meetings for the 20 2023 oops I said too many 20s 2023 2024 school year all those in favor aye perfect and then um all right that brings us to 10B legislative political report does anybody have anything I have some stuff but okay so a lot of uh yeah a couple things after you're done because I know you have educational committee ones I have some weird stuff um so the first thing that we want to talk about is basically um our new superintendent of Public Instruction he came out and said that we have a grant that we're able to choose either counselors or sros he has gone and set out that if for every school who wants to reapply that doesn't already have an SRO set that he will not disperse any counselor grants so that plays a big part in how the Dynamics of our school district are so that money is kind of up in the air we may not get the grant again so that's one of the issues that we have going on um some two good new things that came out yes go ahead so there's a statute that actually governs the school safety program specifically with the procedures that they're supposed to follow the way it works is that the schools apply and the Department of Education education like that's all of the applications and then the Department of Education decides who they're going to submit to the state board for approval for these grants now so they're saying that they're going to use their discretion and not approving people to submit to the state board however I think we should be interesting to talk to our attorney and have them look at our stat at the statute the way I'm reading it and again I'm not a title 15 expert but the way I'm reading the statute it seems like the way the legislature the legislative intent behind it it seems to me that that wasn't their intent was to for them to be able to have such a broad discretion in deciding how they submit these applications to the state board or to create barriers or gatekeeping in this way so I would love for us to talk to our attorney about it I will add that from the Ade art Harding showed up at a guppy Mac meeting and seemed to speak verbally um that everyone agreed that counselors and uh social workers were going to be supported in some Manner and that the there is recognition that there is a lack of sros that they can't force that as the expenditure but while they had that in as a priority he felt that many things would be approved we are investigating this um these bills and these interpretations and Pam burkhart's a master at working with the Ade so everything you just said is aligned with what we talked about in cabinet today so we will I know we're going a little too far Hilda on our legislative report but it is it is an important um it's due soon right the grants due soon and with child Justice Advocates we may be able to Parlay that okay okay um there's a lot of stuff coming out in education that I'm really not going to touch on because of the governor that we have something passes she has the power to veto it and 99.9 that most of the stuff that's going to come to her desk just like the budget that she vetoed recently will happen again so I'm not too worried about some of these um education bills that are coming out um two good things though SB 1675 which is a period product um uh it would require every school district to have period products in the bathrooms I know that we have a partnership right now but it's not like uh you have to have this so with this bill every school district 6 through 12th grade would have to have it there so that's good and Amy a nice one for you sb1546 has to do with Gardens and it would become out of the appropriation fund so I can't forget how much money it is but it would give a certain amount of money for that would get dispersed evenly through districts to focus on the gardening initiatives that they have at their schools that passed the house so it's gonna probably go to the Senate and hopefully it gets sent out those are the only ones that I have I just wanted to put everyone on alert same thing as far as what goes on in the Judiciary I go to a lot of Judiciary Committee meetings just because I also go there for another organization I'm in but I noticed an uptick in educational related bills in the Judiciary committees which is a little concerning because a lot of push to criminalize teachers for certain things luckily a lot of those things will get vetoed even though they got out of committee but it's just something to pay attention to that if we didn't have this Governor there'd be quite a few new laws that would likely be passed that would be criminalizing teachers for all kinds of interesting conduct that is unnecessary so luckily it will get vetoed yeah and and yep okay um perfect anybody else no okay um all right now do we have any future agenda items session um of special education on it and also Personnel issues I feel like when you know the last meeting um attorney was Aaron was just kind of shut down the conversation so I think that conversation perhaps needs to happen in executive session what was the first thing you said I'm sorry I didn't hear audit okay special education and personnel and Personnel issues anybody else have another future agenda item all right I move the governing board adjourn second all those in favor I thank you guys have a great night

during any time during this meeting written comments may be submitted to our reporting secretary Sidney Rodriguez um speakers should conduct themselves with Civility and respect towards everyone in this room our first speaker is Walter lubis all right uh hello my name is Walter lubis I'm a teacher and a coach in St Charles district 303 but more importantly I've been a citizen of Batavia for over six years I mentioned my work in St Charles because I'm here regarding an incident between Batavia and Saint Charles East High School Girls JV basketball teams that took place on February 4th of this year during this game a player from Batavia High School through an unprovoked loaded up forearm to the back of one of my players heads not once but twice and then after these two hits were not reacted to the the player came around the front and elbowed her directly in the nose knocking her back so hard that she hit her head on the floor she has had concussion symptoms for now three weeks that she's still feeling so immediately after this incident a parent of mine sent a clip of what happened to athletic director Dave Andrews in the principal of Batavia High School the response from Mr Andrews uh that is that they Pride themselves on hard-nosed Athletics and they'll make sure that the player would be held accountable and all players will learn from this a three-game suspension was handed down and an apology was to be passed on from him in a phone call to my athletic director to anyone who would listen to an apology over the phone and to be perfectly honest the response from the Batavia school district has loved me feeling that there was a real lack of recognition of the severity of the incident and almost no ownership took place if you saw the video of the incident I think you would agree I could go on and on about my frustrations as a coach and how the situation was handled but I'm here tonight to speak as a citizen of Batavia not as a St Charles basketball coach as a citizen of Batavia who has two small children about to enter the school system I want to know that my children will be brought up in a district that prioritizes sportsmanship and teaches important life lessons um about how to be a respectful member of society if my sons choose to become athletes and participate in high school sports I will have some major major reservations about what they are going to be learning um as on and off the field under this Administration I want them to be part of programs where sportsmanship and learning and decency are more than or more important than winning the game in the wake of this incident I have major concerns about what the precedent will be for sportsmanship respectable behavior and accountability for your actions in 10 years time when my children are at the high school while I may not be aware of every single detail regarding this incident I feel that there was a real lack of accountability by the Batavia district for what took place and if this is how this one hard-nosed Athletics incident was handled it makes me wonder how many others have been handled similar I don't believe that a similar attack would have been handled the same if it was caught in video in the hallways of Batavia High School so what makes something like this different is it because athletes were involved on a court I asked what you guys would be feeling if it was your daughter being elbowed in the head three times in a row I urge you to consider the policies set forward by the metavius student code of conduct and include strict and specific disciplinary action for extreme aggression and physical attacks such as this because it's not there right now I've I've looked and unless I'm missing something I haven't seen it um and I hope you guys can reflect on the values of Batavia Sports isn't stealing in our youth sorry to be negative congratulations teachers hello everybody I'm Eli bordner I graduated Batavia High School in 2018.

um and then I'll just wrap up and say that you know I went to Balmoral Elementary as a child and then part Junior High and then transferred to a private school after that and there was a difference from when acknowledging God versus not that I saw okay and thank you very much board and appreciate the time thank you okay next up administrator or uh board updates anybody have a board update the only one I had which I talked to Ken a little bit about is we replace the water pipes in several of the schools and on some of them like here we have caps on the water fountains so are we removing those or what's a so the the new coming out of covid there were some new parameters from CDC and also like Public Health who recommended covering those that those drinking out of those is a way of passing disease from child to child staff members or staff members so when we replace the fountains most of them I think we replaced not only with the actual drinking spout but also bottle fillers and so it is the recommendation from CDC and ipdh to or idph to use bottle fillers instead of drinking out of those fountains and that when we went and created the new Wing over a Crete we actually The Fountains that we put in there do not have drinking faucets on them strictly our bottle fillers so I think one of the things that we have talked about was the ability or of the district purchasing water bottles for the children so that if they wanted to they could use that some of the principles like that idea right now we are supplying cups that people can get you know water out of those fountains but we're thinking a better solution would be to provide water bottles for them and then they would be standardized throughout the district okay okay again that brings up one question I do have that I didn't remember the other night there was an update on the aqua water situation with University Park still having a portion of it living on bottled water okay are our schools affected at all or are we our schools are not I mean uh you know again with our replacement of our water pipe so you know all of that lead solder has been taken out that may or may not have been there I don't know if it was in our pipes to be honest with you I know we had some high levels of reading in a couple fountains but a lot of that has to do with stagnant water that just lays there so again going back to something that Mr schwoz had talked about with these fountains I know some of the fountains we have put in an automatic kind of circulating device so it will automatically continue to on a timer basis circulate the water so that there is no segment water but but it does not affect us we're we're in really good shape with our pipes in that thank you any other board updates I'm in on that we may be okay just use this building here we get supply water via a well it comes through Crete right so the pipe that feeds us the creek The Village portions do we have any type of insurance that or or we provided a report saying that the water is okay all the reports that we have and again that's the weakest link yeah whenever whenever the pipes are replaced like they were placed in the building the testing is done there's a chlorinated test that has to be done not only with the water in the building but as it comes into the building because we've we've done some construction on you know the connections and all of that stuff sure all of that is done and we are I'm just going to say clean with everything it's the same way over at up the issue at up is really it is I would say this it is the water coming in but it's because they've adjusted the chemicals in the water that ate away a lot of that buildup in the interior of your house on those pipes that protect you from those lead solder joints that's what happened there so the water coming in we're okay with and all the testing that we've done and then again with our pipes being all replaced in our buildings we're clean because of all the chlorinated tests that we've done okay thank you yep any others okay next up administrative updates superintendent yeah I wanted to make sure that we had this on Just for discussion uh about clear backpacks for next year and preparing for next year and making sure that we're having giving enough notice for our families I wanted to make sure that I was clear from the board on the direction that we were going to be moving this year we did uh 312 for backpacks I heard from our last meeting we're looking at going to ELC 212 so the whole District that's pretty much what I heard right okay so I guess the question I think that we wanted to find out um with um we provide the district provided the backpacks for our families last year because a lot of them had already gone out and purchased them by the time that we had made some of these decisions so the district you know obviously provided those but we would like to put that on as a school supply list but we want to make sure we gave them enough notice so I wanted to make sure that there was consensus from the board that we went ahead and do that but that's fine except make sure that we're perfectly clear what we mean by clear backpack because some people thought that meant the mesh and things like that because you can see through it so I think that we need to be specific maybe if we're expecting them to buy them and what we expect that backpack to look like yeah I was going to say the same thing if we provide them we're setting the tone for no gray area so like at the very beginning of the year the first day we went to I was at the middle school and Mr Schneider but it was very clear what the expectation was so I think if we provide them then this is what it is you know the people if they buy their own she's right I mean what if they buy something and well I can see through it or whatever but if we're providing it then it's clear what the what the Mandate is you know what we're requiring is this is what it is we're hoping we set the tone by showing everybody with a clear backpack looked like that's always yeah that's always up for someone interpreting that a different way the year we we wanted those clear backpacks to be used it was mandatory right correct okay and it sounds like things when went on implemented without a not a hitch I guess for the most part I haven't heard much about it in the most in any negative way so so if a kid every student was was given a backpack right so going into the next year are we saying they cannot use the existing one or they could still use it they could still use it so and we are out out of it as far as purchasing and paying for it right correct correct and we were also providing replacement backpacks for students that lost them more if they had ripped and so we were trying to get out of the uh supply business do anyone recall how much we expended on that 76 thousand dollars about 80 grand 80 grand did that come out of Essa money it did which will be drying up shortly yeah that'll dry out next year it was the last year for it any hardship cases are we looking just everyone are we looking to provide it for some uh to like I said we had some discussion typically if it's on the school supply list you know parents have typically have gotten those before but I think there's been places that you know when we've given out you know um free supplies at the beginning of the school year I think we've done that before is the is the supply list considered a fee no no that's not okay the issue is do we know the availability because that was also a problem last year yeah I don't know right and one of the issues we ran into last year I will share this is is that there were two different brands I'm going to just say Brands we we ordered the um middle school and the high school from one vendor and we did the Elementary's from the from another vendor and the elementary was ones were just ripping apart they were a cheaper bag um so if if we were to supply these again we would go with all the same ones that we ordered for the high school and the middle school excuse me it'll be a little bit more costly um so I would venture say we're going to spend probably 80 to 90 000 to do that do they have I think they have a little bit smaller size I'm not sure I'd have to check on that right you know and all that too so is it is it possible to stock some and make one of the options on the school supply list that they can purchase it from the district um it is or or with a if you buy one and it's not compliant you'll have to buy one from us yeah I I mean we could do that that's a tough one though I you know I think I think that puts too much stress on someone in the building to worry about that and if we're going to provide meals okay it's the same thing with a backpack because there are going to be families that aren't going to be able to find it or pay for it like some of the school supplies so I just don't know that you're gonna if we're gonna make it some people come with them some won't and I just think it puts a lot more stress on the staff at the beginning of the year spending time wasting time were pretty much if we Supply them it ends that discussion yeah I I see all back to your question and that I you know it's going to be difficult selling them I mean then we're in the business of trying to collect the money and and you know do we take credit cards do we take cash do we take blah blah blah you know and all that so you know that's a difficult one uh doable but again it does put a lot of pressure on the staff to collect that money and everything I think it lends itself a little bit more for a more stringent conversation because the big thing with the clear backpack for the most part probably 100 is security right so you look we had clear standard expectations we had a wine safe at all for the most part when we paid 80 grand so there was no room for argument here so now we're talking about we may set some standards some dimensions and all of that but I can see some problems here and some of the parents students bring in different type oh this is a clear bag and that's not what we want the beginning of school so however we do it you know it's eighty thousand dollars worth us having clear expectations we know the security component now we we solve that or that's what I would like not saying that we pay but we need a clear expectations that everyone is going to have some type of standard when it comes to this and it's going to be clear sure not two months into the school district or the calendar year yeah not three months in your first day of school and you don't want confusion on opening day right the first we don't want that because there was a little bit I mean listen they handle it great but it there was a line coming off the bus here on this side and then you can enter the building on this side I would imagine it didn't hear a couple days and it was subsided and like you said we haven't heard complaints but it was regulated that was it it was clear-cut and we don't want anybody to waste any more time on that because then now that 80 000 starts chewing up pretty fast and there's arguments and right and you're right then you got to collect the money and that's just a whole nother if we have I I'm sure we have a security or safety budget somewhere whatever in that department we could have to come out of there somewhere because that's basically the premise for it sure it's not really for anything else other than being safe and helping the staff recognize as they walk through the door any other thoughts or is this a consensus I'm just thinking I mean I I when I'm at the high school I always look to see if they're doing the clear Bay Packs and it seems to me that they're holding up pretty good so yeah the ones over there are holding up yeah would we be saying that we're student again because really I like that they're holding up they look great um for the most part and they're all using them and you see them so again would we have to buy for every student again or would we make sure that you know we've added well I would make sure that we have enough in stock for every student that's just the way I you know I think and then you know if we don't use it we'll just storm and you know kind of stop we should probably have a couple of thousand extra at that point you know I mean I I don't know I I you know I think you know a lot of students will probably want a new one you know I mean I I don't know I'd rather you know a new one you know I argued for years that to my kids that they could use the same backpack I lost that argument every year yeah so yeah and I I guess you know from a funding standpoint yes I think another year we have another year investor that I could take the money out of that and get reimbursed for it you know in the future you know I I would hope that there would be some safety funds also there that you know you may be able to tap in to get some reimbursement in the future too and you know again if if it's the board's pleasure to do that you know my role is to find the money to do it I don't think personally I don't think it's my pleasure to do that where the district absorb it but it is my pleasure that we have a tight program sure to make sure it achieve our goal of having clear backpacks of a standard so if you guys can come up with something where the parents could absorb it that's fine but it's a standard it's clear it's concise and it's going to happen on the first day of school and throughout the school year yeah I think the only way that the parents would be able to absorb it if you came out and gave them a specific model number type and all of that so that there's no discussion about that but then you still run the risk quite honestly of you know students at first aid not being able to show up and like you've said you know there may be some that they can't they can't get them we're out because more and more districts are going to these now and so you know I we I bought Lamont and I Mr Holyfield and I have worked that we've got the we got the vendor on hold right now so I've got them and so that's why Dr Kara has brought this up so that I can order them and have them for next year if that's what we're going to do and I'm okay with that you know and that so so again yeah I've got both the large ones and the smaller ones on hold yes right now Okay so we've got enough I guess I guess the consensus is find room in the budget okay great we appreciate that we just wanted to either order them or start sending the messaging out okay all right thank you families that it's expected that on their first day whenever they're passing them out on the supply list you can put you you don't have to buy a backpack because a clear one will be provided and must be used but again real quick can I do like your idea when you said if you again take another responsibility of the district financially but if there was some way that the parents would bring the model give the model a backpack to their kids for the kids to come to school as a district we say this model and this model and we go to the manufacturer vendors say hey we talk to them have a conversation sure say hey and have some Maybe as an emergency stock or something like that that's one way yeah you know there's no different you know when I was in college they said you only use this type of calculator yeah this model here and some of the other supplies that's on the list I'm sure the teachers say only this type of Crayola or pencil and number two or number one so sure that's just another way but okay I'm okay with the district observative too long as we can be consistent in standard do we have any leftovers Ken I think I have a few of the I don't want to say the cheaper ones but the ones that don't hold up I have a few of those left over I think that the high school has a few left over not a lot but a few left over because we only had a couple of hundred extra to begin with right okay thank you okay next up is consent agenda approval uh is there any item on the consent agenda abort member would like to have taken off to vote on separately okay hearing none Dr Carrick could you please read the items and the way we go all right under superintendents item one approved regular meeting minutes of January 17 uh 2023 item two approved regular meeting close session minutes of January 17 2023 item three approved committee the whole meeting minutes of January 10 can I ask a question regarding the Tennessee so I think 30 is very high in absenteeism do we have anything that um incentives or do the schools and I know the elementary I see it a lot but I think it's very important that we continue um middle school and also the high school you know incentives and and do things that that can bring them to school is there um are we still using the pandemic rationale behind it or are we well we were definitely affected by the pandemic um it's a shift and it's a concern that's across the state in terms of chronic absenteeism we're at par with the state and with surrounding districts we do look at Chronic absenteeism as an area of need um our its services team is looking at it through different lenses so we have for example our student Support Services director is working with his staff to re-establish the attendance and our acts art and SARP process at the school site we're also looking at it the lens of our multilingual and categorical director who's working for Community Liaisons to really work on Outreach and to share communication with families and to provide anything that might be a barrier to have our students come to school our school administrators are working with their staff have to not only identify these students but also to provide opportunity for mentorship or in in the case you mentioned to provide incentives for attendance but it is something that we really continue to focus on uh because the more students are here the more they're gonna learn but it's a definitely a team approach as we look at Chronic absenteeism as an area of foreign so do we have a percent of um do we have many truancies or they're just absent ill absent or you know what is the reason why they're not do we have a chart or something that says that the reasons can vary but the way a student qualifies uh to be chronically absent is that they're absent 10 of the end of the days that they're enrolled so that's what when they hit that threshold of 10 and they're considered so so you are still doing the the start and the sarbs then oh that's uh continuing we are um and it's about um sharing that information with our communities um because we during the pandemic we weren't um using that so it's going to be a process but we are looking uh to make sure that all the sites are following the protocols um that are associated with another question regarding um so is the after since the students that have been absent I mean they made me from high school middle school elementary and um if your tennis technicians are they trained you know to look for and you know I'm very concerned about chemistry absolutely that's a huge concern and um we were just looking at this data point recently with our administrators and we did notice that um the highest rates are with our little sprite with our TK and Kinder students um so you know with sharing that the importance of being here and learning and setting that foundation in in the primary grades especially as they're learning to read right and um so it's bearing that information and and making parents aware um I know through elac and through School site Council principals are sharing uh this data point to make or that everyone's aware of the importance of and and I recall that we had a um was it like a campaign for attendance we had that right before I think we need to bring that back yes that would be great yes yes great point it was September yes all right under your call thank you your questions okay another um next slide please another metric that is aligned to go to is parent engagement um here you'll see uh results from our annual YouTube survey in 2022 we had 1 631 parents um uh respond to this survey um and like I mentioned earlier we just closed the survey window so we'll be able to share updated results soon um but based on this we see that the majority of parents feel that they have input in decision making and that 69 of parents would recommend um Azusa Unified School District Schools I think it's great that we I'll do the unifies gives the opportunity for parents to either participate in person or um virtual or even Google I mean they notice them off with the principles are either in person or they're virtual um but they have that pain even looking at the meeting if they don't see it today they can see it tomorrow or whenever and I think they're doing a great job with that absolutely um this next slide shows uh the degree that students feel connected this is really important if we want to increase our chronic absenteeism we want our students to feel like they belong to our school community and that they are connected to an adult or to um classmates so when students have been asked if their voice is heard we hear that 49 do feel that their voice is heard um and you see the highest percentage or connectedness for our elementary students but all three levels are above 40 percent some of the actions and services that are aligned to this poll include professional learning um in the fall we publicize Ed 100 which is a parent engagement program that is in collaboration with um Abe and we um we plan to also offer a second round of project to inspire which is uh something that shows our parents how to become engaged how to be involved how to ask the right questions and so we we hope to offer that in the spring to our school communities that was great I graduated from there uhurio and I think it was great information for the parents absolutely yeah so some of the pyramids that we've offered are additional materials and supplies transportation and resources specifically for our hospitals um in terms of program implementation we've shared information through our Pac plus uh committee through our d-lat as a matter of fact I'm presenting could be like next week regarding lcap and as well as with the support of our community Liaisons to share information with uh parents at each of our sites this next slide shows you the expenditures for supplemental and concentration funds for uh goal 2.

before they leave the floor real quickly we were going to make an attempt if anyone wants to come take a quick picture okay foreign all right good evenings ladies and gentlemen this is Scott Moore here with Grant Peters bringing you tonight's contest of of the Greensburg Pirates versus the North Decatur Chargers give a little about North Decatur they're sitting at 18 and 4 and have won their last three six nine games last loss they've had was to Lawrenceburg in January 14th so uh 18 and four sits PJ Metz in the North Decatur Chargers with three games to go including tonight Greensburg Rushville and then at South Ripley before their South Ripley is their uh sectional game so two games to go and then South Ripley Grant a little bit about Greensburg so Greensburg comes in at 16-5 on the season they have losses against Triton Central Jennings County Seton Catholic and an Invitational and Connersville they have North Decatur obviously tonight and close the season at East Central uh the the Pirates have drawn South Dearborn in the first game of sectional game three yeah which would be the Wednesday night second game is that correct correct and then they would play the winner of Lawrenceburg and Connersville this Friday night game if they would happen to advance in that first game certainly I think a very tough road for the Pirates in that section that's um you know the the top of the bracket is a little bit easier of a road to it but the Greensburg will have to win three to win it all yeah and this contest is always highly anticipated highly contested it's a little different than it's played in February because normally we play this right out the gate yeah and both teams come in with a lot of experience a lot of wins you know one being 16-5 and the other being eight to the four um going to be a great matchup tonight I think of two evening match teams matter of fact I think this game has been moved twice correct uh it was supposed to be game one and it got delayed because of the football North Decatur's football Regional and then we were supposed to play it in December and it got moved because of weather so now we're finally playing this thing in February yeah I think we actually had to move the snow itself was um wasn't that snowy right no no I don't know I think it was one of those uh yeah it's one of those yeah if you get there and we'll get stuck you know type things North Decatur will be playing their uh sectionals March 3rd against South Ripley and their sectional is at South Ripley um they also have Switzerland County Milan and Hauser in their sectional I don't know Decatur but I've seen these kids um for a lot of years a lot of them have played travel baseball and and played against us in sports growing up so very talented athlete a group of kids they have at North Decatur yeah they they're they're a pretty cohesive unit as well I think they're I think they got a couple of a couple of guys are gonna be a handful for us to guard in another complimentary pieces with the with the team um that make them an all-around tough matchup for us so yeah I believe Lance knobby uh number 23 for the Chargers he just hit his uh thousandth Career Point uh maybe a weekend ago or good I actually got it up at the uh at the what they call that the Hoosier Gym or the yeah the knights Town yeah Knightstown where uh the movie movie uh Hoosiers was filmed yeah so congratulations to Lance uh his dad was honored tonight with the uh honoring of the 200 yep so a lot going on here tonight we had the 200 we have a pirateer stuff and uh eventually we got to play a basketball game yeah you know also talk about our roster a little bit Kai Dyer is put some good games together he can obviously score the basketball and we got some other pieces around Jack McKenzie Addison Barnes petted Jeter Edwards and Justin Atkins usually round off our starting lineup and we got a couple other guys Granger Maxwell uh Bryce Stringer Bradley Lutz a Tebby that that come in and get some solid minutes for us so all right I really like our team when we are playing at our best I I think I think if we can use these last couple games for some momentum as we go in the tournament I think we can beat anybody yeah I really do I but I think there's some there's some critical fundamentals that if we if we can't do those things um we become a little bit more challenged in some areas but uh yeah and I think pal trouble is one of those things that if we get into some foul trouble [Music] um that that tends to be a an Achilles heel for us a little bit so um you know this game here I imagine it'll be up and down and quick and um you know from what everything I've heard from coach Meyer he talks about North Decatur being pretty physical so uh be interested to see how we start off this game yeah I I think as as we we're going to talk about keys of the game I think that I think that Greensburg has to Value the basketball and not have a ton of turnovers and then rebound well yep Stacy will try to do his part to control the tempo I think that we um we just got to take care of the ball and rebound yep we're going to step away and listen to Mr Mike Myers on the PA for the anthem the players play the coaches coach the officials officiate and The Spectators be positive and now if you will all please rise and remove your hats as we honor America and the brave men and women who serve this nation as seniors Kylie Simpson and Macy Smith sing our national anthem oh say can you see by the dawn's early light what's so proud ly we have here at the twilight's last gleaming who's brought stripes and bright stars [Music] fight or the red Hearts we watched were so gallantly streaming that our flag was still there oh say does that Star-Spangled [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] okay we are back after that rendition of our national anthem gonna listen to our starters here I believe for North Decatur we're going to have Carson Carmer Caden muckerheide Blake Spears Connor linkmeyer and like I talked already the leading scorer in Lance Navi very fine Tim Jr number five you know what for the sake of time we'll go ahead and do starters for Greensburg looks like it's going to be Kai Dyer Justin Atkins Addison Barnes Pettit and Jack McKenzie rounding out the starting five and I don't know just talking to a couple of the kids today they said very similar to Us North North plays about six to seven guys um you know a couple guys come off the bench that uh you know maybe you're some minute fillers or whatnot but uh not too deep crazy too deep teams well I think their their teams are gonna look to push but they're gonna push with discipline they're gonna be more deliberate um if they need to be maybe short in the game a bit in certain situations and either way I think uh a lot of anticipation of this game I think that I think North and Greensburg has been looking forward to this game for for quite a while our Nations to see you hey let's face that these kids know each other they're growing up around each other yeah there's a lot of a lot of rivalry a lot of healthy competitions let's throw it up and see what happens yeah [Applause] because really I think outside of Jeter who came here in eighth grade everybody else has all been in Greensburg or Decatur County the entire time so uh good good healthy High School rivalry Sean sellers Justin Drees and Dave Lawrence Mike Myers on the call there he's getting us all excited here in the gym he's a good one oh yeah he does a real good job on the mic looks like we have Lance knobby for the Chargers and Addison Barnes credit for the Pirates gonna do the uh the tip off here and here we go all right Greensburg has the tip Jeter Edwards walks it up as the Pirates get in their initial set ball screen on the top as Jeter dribbles right feeds the post Ty Dyer with the 12-footer up and no good North Decatur grabs a rebound as mucker Hyde brings it up the floor they too settle into their first set coach Meyer paid Caden mucker had a really nice compliment today saying he's probably the fastest kid they will see all year long and shows it right there with that off the ball dribble or on the ball dribble yeah Greensburg now with it Addison Barnes pet it in the corner kicks it to Kai he drives in the paint good drop off and Justin Atkins will go to line to shoot two I believe the foul here is on Carson Palmer I believe let's check the call [Music] no it's on Connor linkmeyer checked that Justin Atkins to the line to shoot to for the Pirates first one was good second free throw for Justin Atkins in and out linkmeyer with the rebound and mucker Hyde once again has it [Applause] gonna help there by Jack yep great help side there by the Pirates even though the ball was on the top and North Decatur will have it out of bounds underneath their own bucket going in a four flat set North Decatur up top reversing it thought about the three nothing there post speed rolls it in Greensburg there to help can't grab for the rebound scrum for the ball and Justin Atkins brings it up chins it gets it out as the Barnes bet it and we get into our offense probably a wise decision by Justin Addison Barnes better hits Kai Dyer off the curl he lays it up and misses [Applause] contested layup there down in the corner farmer Carson Farmer for three nothing doing and Atkins has a good block out there as he draws the foul and the Pirates will take it out of bounds 2-1 early here 6 27 to go in the first quarter so both teams have decided to match up here early on not surprised by that and we have found number three that's three quick team fouls and they took Parma out and then comes Reed Messer reading physical basketball player very talented football player gonna go to Taylor University to play football next year good for him oh snuck one in there on the out of bounds play underneath good pass by Jeter there and Kai Dyer lays it in North Decatur tries to respond and they entered on the left side of the force down in the corner a little off the ball screening it's reversed up top makurai tries to turn the corner kicks it to Blake Spears for three and Kai Dyer secures the rebound that's one thing coach Meyer mentioned to me today is they didn't want Spears to get uh get going he's a very streaky shooter and uh and they were he was a little nervous if he got mine early that he would be tough to handle Jack McKenzie with a short pull up off the glass and no good North Decatur had four guys there to rebound the ball and they secure it and we have a blocked foul I believe it's going to stay here let's see what the call is [Music] it's Lance snobby at the line shooting too that foul is on Kai Dyer that's his first team's first and Lance knobby is able to make the first free throw [Applause] two for two Greensburg pushes up sideline too late Addison running the floor kite just didn't see him in time let's see what out of bounds play they're cooking here in a box set Jeter taking it out once again another double here for the shooter and we get it in and we look to find some good offense here [Music] McKenzie reverses to Dyer up top for three long but we get the offensive rebound good Hustle by Addison settle in good Flash cheaters looking nothing dribbles up top hands off to Kai Dyer Kai Dyer a little crossover move and nice little mid-range jumper is good no smooth there North Decatur back and they're set mucker Heights thinking about it and decides to show us a little mismatch here show some patience and he crosses Up Kicks to Shooter yeah Spears for three there's Spears in the corner mucker Hyde caused the Pirates to help leave the shooter in the corner well good pass and one by Justin Atkins nice little pick and roll play and slip the passing between the Defenders and we have an and one Justin Atkins goes to the line to attempt the three-point play that last foul was on Reed Messer that's his first [Music] [Applause] free throws up and good 8-7 here with 4 20.

our next goal is goal three and this goal focuses on preparing our students for college and careers After High School we want to make sure that we're offering a wide range of programs to our students but we especially want to make sure that all student groups have an opportunity to participate in these programs at the same rate one of the metrics that's tied to goal three is perform student performance on the smarter balanced assessment Consortium which is also referred to as the s-back test in English language arts and math um here you'll see that for 11th grade students 47 percent of the students were meeting or exceeding standards in English language arts and 19 in math um we also take a look at local assessments which are our district assessments and for our 11th graders we have 33 percent meeting or exceeding standard in English language arts and 28 meeting or exceeding in math uh here you'll see um another metric that's tied to go three that is graduation outcomes you'll see both the Seal of by literacy and the completion of Career Technical education or what we call the CTE Pathways that students are working towards uh during the time that they were in high school this shows you that um we have a graduation rate as well as one of our metrics you'll see that for our district we're at 87 graduation rate and then each of the high schools are noted as well this next metric is also focused on college preparatory programs that we offer in our district um both the IB and AP classes take an exam each year and last May 39 of our AP test takers passed with the three or higher which is considered passing and 64 of our IB students passed with the four which is considered passing and then you'll see that in 2022 early college program seniors uh completed 30 or more units and that was at a rate of seven percent okay Miss Garcia Medina have a question okay yes Dr ball um what are our uh I see these are our metrics what are the goals for these um Pass rates and and uh a through dream requirements so if you uh refer to uh the written lpap report each of these metrics will have a three-year um at the end of the three year our Target um and so based on whatever metric we're looking at we'll be able to uh see what the actual um Target is for each of the goals and you would be referring to um 3.1 uh page 28 uh so if you look at percent of graduates earning the Seal of by literacy our Target is 20 for that after at the end of three years uh four percent of graduates completing a CTE pathway are uh metric Target is 25 for that and then for graduation rate our metric Target is 95 so we want 95 percent of our students uh to have uh graduated from high school thank you absolutely and I believe um Mr ayanes had a question yes um what is the the total number of students in the international program at this moment right now from this metric that you do I don't have the actual number but I can definitely um consult with our College and Career Readiness director and get that information can you also do all three we'll all free program right so the total amount of students in each one of them well thank you so our next this slide looks at um actions and services that are tied uh took College and Career um our College and Career goal uh some of the professional learning uh course is training in the different programs we offer like Avid I AP um also uh counselors receiving professional learning some of the course offerings that we provide are district white summer school are medical and Engineering Pathways our ibna forces our early college program courses and then we provide material supports programs as well this next slide shows you the expenditures of supplemental and concentration funds that are tied to uh both three as of January 2023 and again we are in budget with this goal uh for the fourth goal we're looking to increase student achievement for all students and to narrow any achievement gaps that may exist between subgroups um as well as a focus on uh increasing language acquisition and academic progress for our emerging multilingual students like some of our other goals we are using um aspect data results to measure progress this bar graph shows the 2022 performance of our students in a third through eighth grade and 11th grade um this is Baseline data this year as we're not comparing to 2019 and this is going to help us identify what learning gaps exist and how we need to support some of our subgroups if you'd like to see a detailed breakdown by school and by student subgroup that can be found in the January written report another measure that we use to measure progress towards this goal is third grade reading efficiency uh based on a local assessment that we give to our third grade students and here you see the percentages of students meeting or exceeding standards for all students and for some of the different subgroups that were I have a question so um when we assess the academic achievement in Reading in third grade do we follow these students as a cohort the city and assess their progress we are able to do that we're able to follow the students um it might not be through the same assessment um but we are able to use our illuminate student information system or assessment system to pull data for various groups of students by different ears uh would you say that third you know after third grade right I mean the the education to prison pipeline we we understand it starts in third grade when we start seeing right the the readings low the interventions are not put in place or or basically sometimes a family doesn't take the interventions um what does it look like if if we were to start um what would it look like if we were to start having a cohort and following that core have we ever typically we follow the cohort over time as well so if you look at this particular graph this is based on the data that we gathered in December 2022 so they take this proficient reading proficiency assessment three times in each grade level so what happens is is that cohort of third graders and that data that we're looking at they will continue to take the same assessment adjusted to their grade level but we use that data formatively so the teacher uses the data one to determine their proficiency and to Define where there's gaps so is the student lacking in fluency it's the student lacking and vocabulary comprehension so we look at all of those aspects of what entails reading proficiency to be able to determine where the student needs are but we do start administering this assessment as early as kindergarten because we want to close those gaps early because as you explained it becomes more challenging to close those gaps as the students move on but we do continue to monitor that reading proficiency through High School I would I would like to take the opportunity and sit down um who used to do it before right the um what is correct name it's for emerging multilingual it's Krista and then Adriana kind of handles yeah it's a collaboration and kind of explore this a little more absolutely we do have um Regular PLC opportunities where we look at this data with our site administrators and we look at the different subgroups and we look at the difference between fall and winter and spring so I'd be more than happy to sit down and explore with wins a good month where you think you would have a majority of the any month or we'll make it work love it thank you thank you for the questions appreciate it um this next slide shows you another metric that's tied to before um and it's specifically the percent of students receiving a b and c grades earned by our ninth graders uh and as you probably are aware you know evidence shows that if they are earning a B's and C grade uh they're more likely to graduate and be prepared for college and to meet those College and Career readiness also measure reclassification rate of our emerging multilingual students and that is when a student demonstrates that they are fluent in English um and here you see the reclassific and reclassification rate as of December which was at nine percent uh this is an ongoing metric because we continue to reclassify our students throughout the actions and services that are applied to the school again include professional learning opportunities for our staff specifically to support our multilingual Learners through the early sobrato early academic language seal a program as well as job embedded coaching for our staff member some of the course offerings that are tied to this goal include intervention and academic acceleration when appropriate offering music at all levels to increase that engagement as well as the Spanish dual language immersion program at our various sites this slide shows you expenditures for supplemental concentration funds that are tied to a goal score our final uh goal is goal five and this is uh tied to our District's implementation uh and focus on diversity equity and inclusion uh we want to make sure that we're addressing the needs of our community and our students uh and that we're building our ability to support our our community and that we're diminishing uh systemic racism this next slide shows you results from our district annual youth Booth survey and it asks questions about um our students uh about their experiences in our district um and we here are looking at the perception of how our districts and schools value diversity as well as how districts and schools encourage um our parents our staff and our students to speak out Against Racism this next slide helps us measure students Comfort level speaking about diverse groups and you have their uh the different diverse groups that we refer to um and we hope that as we continue to um share actions and services and and programs with our students that these efforts will lead to increased percentages um in in these areas this next slide shows you um the staff's perspective in terms of their comfort level speaking out about diversity um here you see um on a scale of five the different um levels for elementary middle and high school and they're about a mid-range to the higher range of out of five as well as staff's opportunity to learn about culturally relevant teaching strategies so in order to feel comfortable to speak on these topics they need to be able to feel comfortable when they're teaching these topics some of the actions and services that are tied to both five include some workshop and training opportunities that were provided by the Western Justice Center which are focused on restorative practices which include peer mediation restorative circles and student leadership increasing those opportunities the school sites we've offered the ethnic studies and the latinx studies at our high schools we've purchased a classroom libraries and School libraries to support these topics with diverse authors and shared stories with our our students that reflect some of us learn the next slide shows you the expenditures that are tied to this goal as of January 2023 and again we're within budget the next slide shows you what our next steps are as we continue to engage our community with the lcap process this will be happening in the next few months this update is shared with the board tonight and then we also share this with our site administrators and features at different meetings we ask our principals to share this update with their parents as well as with their staff we also share this at our pacplus meeting our student advisory Council and d-lac committee meeting we also post this report on our district website for parents and the Community Access as well as making it available via links to our social media I appreciate your time in listening to the progress that we've made uh towards the lcap we have the remainder of this year and one more year to go before we start to inform our next um lcap plan um and just want to open it up to any additional questions I have I have several questions but I wonder if others have any questions that they want to ask first that way anyone else okay uh president you have any questions no this time go ahead okay so so first I have some questions about just some of the details and some of the results because I appreciate the sharing out of the information um but but we have not yet really talked about like interpreting the data as as far as what what do we think about this or what does this mean or or how to uh so for example if we go to page three of the presentation we see that it says 79 of our facilities and Spectrum results are 79 percent so if that that means 21 or or somehow or you know we're at 79 and so there's 21 missing what does that account for what what does that mean that we're not doing if we're at 79 as opposed to she said the target is 90.

23 to go in the first quarter that's uh be fast it's pretty Shifty yeah he's a Junior couldn't finish Pirates convert step back jumper by Kai Dyer yeah I don't care who you are that's pretty good yeah that's tough yeah and that's that's that's pretty good and pretty hard to guard North Decatur once again running their half court offense mucker right has a hesitates kicks it to Messer to Messer and Atkins with the deflection Justin's playing a heck of a game right now we need him and now we have I think I call that on Farmer that's gonna be his second he's already going to the bench he knows walk of shame Chase Youngman freshman coming in on the bench to get some varsity minutes here oh don't leave the wide open Dyer left ashore Jack McKenzie on the offensive rebound putback 13-7 early advantage of the Pirates [Applause] we gotta tie up for the loose ball jump ball alternative possession stays with the Chargers I think you just saw that physicality there by number 11 Messer going to the hoop he just I don't think he's scared no he'd get after it oh Messer draws the foul so it can be Atkins and then lob knobby to the line to shoot two and you said that Mr knobby there is a 1000 Point score yeah yes he is he's um and he's grown probably about five inches since the last time I've seen him yeah he's he's skilled he's got some length and he's got some things you can't teach so nice nice player for North Decatur second free throw good for Navi is upping good he is four for four from the line Greensburg settles in gets balanced they're gonna run a little dribble weave here it looks like uh that's that's not good and it gets deflected [Applause] knobby's in there fighting hard to post McKenzie a little wrestle match in there [Music] In fairness like on that play like MacKenzie Jack is just as entitled to that spot as Navi yeah I don't know how he's supposed to defend that nope that's supposed to back down from him [Music] I agree it's it always tends to go against the defense yep Kai kicks it to McKenzie he drives in out to Atkins nothing there Mackenzie takes a nice there you go nice and rolls it up with a little touch off the glass it's his fourth Point nice nice take there by Jack 2 15 to go in the first 15 to 11 pirates are up knobby with the contested short one there cannot convert and transition Kai Dyer with the three [Applause] so it's going to be a full-time out Chargers we will step away while they're into full-time out we have something for everyone we carry sizes small through 3x but we have tons of gifts shoes accessories anything you could want for anyone on your list we try to have in stock you don't have to wait we have some handmade jewelry from local and then nearby people we also carry an awesome line called grain of rice project and it is from an area in Kenya all the money goes back to the actual creators and it's awesome and they have the most unique pieces we also have a website and an app so you can download the app for free or visit our website and Shop us anytime as well we are here Monday through Friday 10 to 6 and Saturdays 10 to all right we are back we are here visited by Mrs June rigney June always a supporter of the Pirates she's ignoring us yeah she doesn't want any part of it that's fine it's got more class clearly she's a good human being clearly all right here we go North Decatur has it they have a couple strong ball reversals got mucker hide isolated good defense by Jeter to keep him contained who thought about it still thought about it and decide to run some more offense ball swings to the right side the floor knobby has it at the three-point line penetrates in and pretty good finish again move [Music] Pirates convert push it up the left side and reverse it to the right side of the floor off the ball cutting flash by Mackenzie up and strong and great finish by Jack there it's Jack's sixth point good Strong finish and nice Cut to set it up we're down the final minute of the first quarter oh North Decatur with the three by Chase Young And The Freshman to come in Off the Bench for Farmer 20-16 as we wind down the first quarter and imagine coach Myers probably gonna hold for one he is what it looks like so what you want to talk about for about 20 seconds well what a nice crowd yeah beautiful crowd here people yep got a nice little gym here tonight yep um we're down to 20 seconds as we're holding for the last shot here for Greensburg and I anticipate here in just a few seconds they're going to try oh they're gonna double him or they're gonna go to a Zone nope he's gonna stick with it he's gonna go one for low no short [Applause] s [Music] you know what good adjustment by North Decatur they've obviously scouted and watched that and I anticipate Stacy's going to make an adjustment yeah so leading scorers right now you got Kai Dyer with 10 Atkins with four Jack McKenzie with six Math was never your strongest well there's a lot of I don't know there was a decimal there that would help me uh North Decatur Kate mucker hard with two Blake Spears with three Chase Youngman with three and Lance Navi with 10.

90 so I could take that one so um when the Outside Agency come in they look at everything even to the DM so if there's a chip paint or if they wouldn't buy a desk and there was a chipping there it was markers down on because they're considering that meaning we need to monitor that make an adjustment if it or pick that do we have any kind of data that says of the of the areas where we were where we were docked where we're seeing that the percentage of those kind of areas that were docked is here in this in these categories are those categories um yes so the full report um the they gave us a detailed report for each School site um and based on the report that we um that we received last year that is part of our goal of increasing our night custodians that can assist us in reimagining of how we care because some of it is just cleaning this as well it's not even that something is broken and fixed it's just is this clean do we have gum on a floor vice versa so we and we do have a plan our goal is by we're increasing our staff at our school size that will also help us if our actual um another question I have on page nine either high school high school dropout rate is is listed at nine percent what what do we do what what what do we do if if we see that there's a if there's a student that is that has dropped out what is our what is our follow-up to that so depending on the particular situation um sometimes the course of action is um aligning the student to some of the resources that are available through adult education either additional courses that they may be missing or um taking the hiset or you know what other options are available to to that student depending on what their situation is so it's really you know bridging that collaboration piece between what resources we have available at the school site there's also depending on the particular student um an option for a fifth year depending on what amount of credits they're short um and often um the dropouts that we see tend to be our students who are are migrant or not our migrant are immigrant uh students um so really it's bringing them um some support for developing English uh language and we really try to tie them to some of the resources at the adult education center because there is an opportunity for them to take the hiset in Spanish and then also take their ESL courses to develop their English fluency as well so um before they they go to stera we'll say syrup that may need credit recovery so what do we do to help them so they won't become Dropbox you know they they'll end up at their high and they'll end up graduating you know who monitors them and who uh gives them that direction that they have that opportunity to to do just that so there's a there's a couple of entry points into that so one of the data points that we look at is that dnf rate right so we monitor the students who are getting D's and F's and we start looking at that at the middle school and counselors start to meet with students meet with families um to get the students on track before they get into high school and then um we are part of um on track um it's a collaboration with California Ed Partners where we look specifically um at ninth grade students um who are in that transition from middle school to high school and at that entry point to high school and look at their dnf rates and to begin to look at where we need to close some gaps for them so that they don't become credit deficient and fall into That Base where they are then feeling like that also has to have with the attendance you know on big big time on undergrades but um and I think it's important that we do educate parents when they're in eighth graders that when you go to high school it's not just you can just miss and this is credit your uh you know you miss or you get a certain grade you don't get too many credits I think they I'm not sure um our educating our parents so and the student to know that once you're in high school it's not like you're an elementary or in kindergarten where you come or you go or you you know it's it's their career it's their future and I think it's important that we need to um set the tone for them every I see the uh president thank you uh this is a piggyback question to Mr Greer's question around the facilities uh report uh Mr Moe how how do our facilities inspection reports um the metrics we have here how are those tied into the Williams reporting and or our sarc reports great great question so um we have one agency that we have that come that completes the entire fit which is the wave suspection for all of our sites um and that's us going over and Beyond um and then we utilize we pass that information onto our site so they can incorporate those metrics into the sart additionally Lego also um completes some William inspections as well only for our schools has been um flagged by them so with our current facilities rating um uh is is laco satisfied that we remedied um the deficiencies so it's not a I'm so sorry it's not a report that um we report out to Lego to copy rivety that's for us internally so we are currently utilizing the detail report that we have to um create goals and objectives for us to attend to so some well like I said before was Chip paint so we already have uh on our facilities plan of how we're when we're painting out our sites not everything can be achieved at this uh specific moment because of other things that have to have prerequisites but that's how we're setting up um our when we outline the facilities plan when we said okay based off of safety these are some things that had to be attained to um someone is our classroom Furniture um based on if the end of life the size of our for insurance and that will be achieved once we um purchase our district-wide classroom furniture that the board approved um last year so I'm not sure if that answers the question Dr Bill thank you so much you're welcome we'll have a few more questions uh and and still on goal two I also see that on pages on page 11 of the presentation it talks about the degree to which students feel connected and that their voice is being heard uh looking at I mean High School in particular and and and even with the student voice like I think I miss you said it appears that all of them are above 40 percent of 40 percent that would that would seem very low to me that uh and so I would see it as you know 60 of our high school students don't feel that they're connected or that they belong and that's that's a significant that's a significant amount of our high schoolers that don't feel connected or or that they belong um and uh same for a student voices being heard 51 over half of our students are saying that they don't feel like their voices are are being heard um I know that we I know that there's there are there are uh initiatives that we put in place to for students to be able to share their voices are we comparing this to previous years and to be able to say that even from an iterative growth standpoint that you know we were at 46 and now we're at 49 so we are growing and students voices are they are feeling their voices are being more and more heard or is it it's it have we put initiatives in place and we're kind of stagnant these again are just some some uh data points that I think are are concerning and and warrants just the question what do we do about this and how do we assess if there are things that we've already been doing how do we assess if those things are working and or if we need to do other things but there was a small increase from um for that particular those particular data points that you identified from our 2020 youth truth survey to 2021 um and then we'll be interested to see what this year's data looked like uh but one of the the pieces that we put in place this year is in a partnership through the on track work is our high school principals and um High School teachers identified Target students to really look at and focus and build some relationship and you know they identified check-in times like a monthly check-in time to help the students feel more connected we know that distance learning did create more of a barrier for students and you know we we are still you know we don't want to keep saying the pandemic but we have to be you know recognized that there were some barriers for students that occurred um through distance learning so we are still in that recovery mode and we are very attuned to looking at how are we one creating a space where students feel that their voices are being heard and how are we carving out opportunities for them um to voice um their opinions and also again you know how are we finding opportunities to connect with them build up build relationships thank you again and moving on to goal three this would this information is on the page 15.

we'll certainly living up to his thousand points scoring going into a 10. I I would think that 20 to 16 is a high first quarter score um I I would anticipate that this would slow down a little bit at some point um and I I guess my question is is which team can keep that pace can they both you know I mean obviously we've seen Greensburg play more than North but is that is that something that we can keep up keep going because North looked like they had no quit and shoot it from the outside and get Nabi the ball on the inside [Music] composed up there rocking uh crazy train a little Aussie up there yeah sounding good tonight as always so second quarter here we go Greensburg has the alternate possession Jeter enters the offense dribbles to the left side and has a nice backdoor cut for Kai Dyer and he cannot convert North Decatur pushes trying to load up Lance knobby on the inside they reverse it all the way down to the Deep right corner now they're back to the left side of the floor mucker Hyde Shifty another ball reversal refuses the ball screen penetrates kicks out the shooter and Blake Spears for a second three-pointer Greensburg showing some patience here back cut by Kai Dyer nothing there Jeter spins in the lane up and no good from about 11 feet and North Decatur is able to rebound down by one 20-19 with about 6 45 here to go lob pass and Jack is there to help nice play cannot complete the steal be out of bounds to North Dakota Ball's inbound Lance knobby spins and gets I would say hammered Yeah by Bradley Lutz there heck now he's in the statbook anyway Bradley comes in makes his presence felt I I think he'll impact the game in other ways before so that'll be still perfect from the line I think we may want to avoid yeah I was gonna say it comes down to maybe don't foul him yeah let's not foul the shooter when it's 23 Maybe nope well we did our part we did our part Jeter Edwards with the rebound brings it up the floor Greensburg with reversal there it is good off the ball movement cheetah refuses the screen basket Cuts there's a curl by Jack McKenzie up top Kai Dyer looks over to Jack on the wing Bradley up top thought about the shot nothing there McKenzie drives in the paint Jeter gets a firm handle on it settles in Kai Dyer with the three nothing doing and mucker Hyde is speeding up the floor and does a little Euro Step [Applause] and puts the Chargers up by two [Music] Jeter for three good shot big shot it's his first points of the night and and notice there the I didn't catch who it was that did the cut but they were actually the screen cut to the basket and then Jeter was able to pop and get a wide open three there good offense [Music] Navi fed in the post drives hard and 15 up no good battle for the ball and it is off the Pirates it's going to stay with North Decatur good hands by Bradley Chargers are looking to slow it down just a bit and there's good defense and we can not secure the loose ball did everything right oh [Applause] that's gonna be a blocking foul found linkmeyer I believe that should be his second [Music] next one puts us into bonus good pass oh strong but Here Comes mucker hide pulls it out [Music] North Decatur gonna run some offense looks to run away run into each other something about another play where we did everything right yeah but just get the ball two guys in help side ran into each other on the live play [Applause] Bradley Lutz has it dribbles up Top Kicks it down to Kai good pass nice nice bug hey Tabby's able to make the grab on a great pass and lay it in Pirates down one 25-26 3 30 to go in the second quarter here that's deep mucker hard [Applause] that was in the uh state champion script yeah that was that was deep just a lesson though you got to keep your hands up Greensburg looking to feed the post and out of bounds off hey Debbie's hand we got subs subs coming in okay Granger Maxwell to Addison Barnes Pettit and Justin Atkins coming into the game be our first look at old Granger Maxwell tonight he's a good boy yeah gator so ball screen here looks like they're gonna switch it they did mucker hide heat Checker right there good rebound by Jeter he's got in the open floor he's looking oh pulls up Mickey good Hustle by Granger [Applause] yep two guys competing nothing wrong with it loose ball I think Grange or a Jeter got in the air and realized he didn't know what he wanted to do with the ball yep tried to throw that little dump pass and hung in the air too long North Decatur has the ball here 29-25 knobby dribbling picks up his dribble there's Justin Atkins with the reach I think they call that getting caught with your hand in the cookies that's his second babe and there is North Decatur with an easy layup as they go up 31-25 is that with mucker hard did he get that he did okay mucker High deep three nope [Applause] he turned into Lane looked at coach Matt said my bad he knew sometimes those heat checks uh he just wanted to make sure yeah just wanted to make sure so 30 second timeout we're gonna stay right here with you um so when it talks about just meeting standards it's both local and also spec standards same same question in essence just around okay how do we see the ways that this compares to the previous years and and is the even if it's ever so slightly is the new is the needle moving forward and how do we reflect that how can we when we report these things out report it out in such a way that it gives us if if we have this is the second year of our of our lcap show this is where we started and and this is what the trend is showing I think would be would be a helpful uh thing um I'd like to say something um board member Greer was we were going through the presentation I also felt the same way as how do you compare this even pre-pandemic years right as the newer board member I mean those are things that I would like to see so that we can ensure that we are making progress for our students I mean that's something that you know just looking at it in retrospect that that's what something got the opener so um as uh Adriana Garcia Medina has already noted that those data points are in the big report uh they go back to 1819 uh but as Adriana Garcia Medina will tell you I think she's heard it 7489 times when she's in webinars and reading that right now there is a lot of caution uh given out to uh districts uh particularly in this data point that we're speaking about uh to fight the urge uh to compare uh to the Past uh because of that large gap of that suspension uh that happened uh but nonetheless uh in the big report we do put from 1819 uh forward uh for all of our metrics if I'm not mistaken uh whatever metric that we're discussing some are newer so like Latasha was saying uh with the fit um and I think that's great right why only the schools that are Williams why are they only getting fit inspected like we should all be fit inspected uh you truth is a relatively newer uh instrument as well but that'll be noted in the in the report and ask a question so um going to the um the metric tools regarding the um youth survey uh students have not been heard are we talking about males females um students like are that participate in ASB or in programs or your middle child and and um unlikely um Norma mentioned that you know teachers are identifying them I think they need to identify them more not only teachers I mean even you know cafeteria workers you see someone sitting alone you know and and I'm curious to see again if it's your um the girls is it the boys is it who are we talking about here we just see a number but who exactly who are we talking about the number that you see here that's being reported is all students um but we do have the ability to segregate the data by subgroup male female um so each of the school sites can look at their school specific data but this is putting it all together I think that would be interesting for to us to have that data and a different second question so when they take this survey they take it during English class or in when do they take the state take it during the school day at the elementary level you know it's a self-contained classroom so it's with their teacher at the secondary level they pick a course and that's the course that administers the survey and we track you know uh progress uh in terms of when they're completing this and then you mentioned um obviously not all students are taking it the the number you gave us that's not as amount of students that we haven't at our school it's third and up but what I'm just saying so the but the numbers that you what you mentioned one thousand six hundred that was uh specifically to parents who completed the survey last um here yeah I think it'd be nice to have the data on thank you president thank you I have a follow-up question um for slide 10 regarding parent satisfaction in terms of recommending Azusa Unified Schools um do we have the the um qualitative data if regard you know parents submitted comments regarding what they were or were not happy with regarding the district and how have we taken a look at that data we we do have a comment section uh but it's it's General it's not tied to each of the specific subtopics but um that is available in the youth tooth reports that's available by site and also at the district level so we have we analyzed the comments for uh for findings or themes we we do um when we receive the results uh from youth truth in March uh they come and they do a presentation and they work uh with our School site administrators to interpret the data uh to uh plan next steps in terms of sharing the data with the community uh with their staff and their parents um what we're doing additionally this year which is I think going to be a uh something great is that each principle is going to be meeting with a one-on-one in-person uh online session actually with youth truth to go over their specific uh School data so that that'll give us more Tools in terms of how we're sharing out information and what our next steps are to bridge some of those gaps thank you and as a follow-up question um I I can't remember exactly what um what topic uh the district had asked of parents but what was our last uh application of the the thought exchange platform the last application was around uh the topic that we have tonight uh which is the Azusa High School mascot okay um I I would like to see if there's a way that we could use the thought exchange platform um to get deeper into this specific question about um parents recommending or not recommending is use a school we can definitely um definitely do that thank you so I do do you have a few more questions still and so please uh my colleagues interject if if there's any questions in between um and would it be possible actually to jump to the slides as we're we're talking so that those at home can follow along so I'm on we were on page 15 if we could jump down to page 17.
