what what do they need to do here in the next minute 52 well you can't be too upset they've had a couple of defensive possessions where felt like they've done everything right and it just didn't got a bad bounce yeah um also too I think they've that they've they've wasted a couple possessions on the offensive end with either sloppy passes or just not having the patience like it's okay to run 45 seconds of offense it's going to settle into that type of game notice the scoring has declined now in the second quarter well I mean we're getting out scored 15-5 this quarter didn't as a coach do you feel that like do you feel that momentum shift like what what do we do what do you do to I think counter it it starts by taking good shots and hopefully you make your opponent take it out than that that's where it starts there's the pick and roll Dave tabby and oh June come on she had it and that's a another turnover and North Decatur up 31-25 looking to extend the lead and that is very good defense good rebound by Addison that is fantastic defense by Jeter Edwards I'll just get a reach there [Music] [Applause] and Granger oh I don't even know who tipped that in I'm gonna give it to Granger oh all right he said Maxwell yeah we're gonna give that to Granger we'll take it at this point we needed to if that's what Mike Meyer said gosh darn it that's what we're going with take it to the bank and it's amazing how oh it's amazing how fickle momentum is because we just got a bucket we got a hold on an in and out here and now we're looking to score and trim this to two yeah which it really is amazing how how important each possession is that you don't waste it it is pretty smart here by coach Meyer like you were talking about The Possession not getting wasted let's get a shot in with the time that we wanted to have you know and I think some fans don't always understand that but by us doing this we're not giving the ball to North Decatur for another opportunity to score if we can convert it here that's a big momentum shift going into halftime run a dribble handoff guy in the corner for three that's a big bucket that's huge that is a big bucket that's here is a big bucket so going into halftime North Decatur 31 Greensburg 30 but like you just said huge bucket right there and I cannot remember nor would I tell the name of that set but that is a set that we see uh the Pirates run often where they they run the handoff and then Kai gets his head under the basket and then runs off the double there and have a couple variations of it we're able to convert it or execute it get it get a three-point basket into the half so that is half time uh we will be back at about nine minutes or so so stay with us good afternoon it's Billy Cowan with Cowan's Exotics we are located at 125 West Main Street Greensburg Indiana right off of downtown Square while I keep it here is what I actually enjoy keeping a few boas currently chameleons a lot of ball pythons bearded dragons tegus geckos we do carry all all your reptile needs as far as caging supplies bedding bulbs feeders insects and rodents both if you buy an animal here there'll be everything you need for it in the store what got us into the shop my stepdad growing up had a shop similar to this and he passed away a cancer in 2008 and I told my mom they'll come a day when I'll do their shop again and it just it fell in place two years ago and I ran with it and that's how it's been ever since all right welcome back getting ready to start the third quarter here Greensburg trailing the North Decatur Chargers by 130 to 31 just some leading scorers here real quick for North Decatur Kate mucker hide with nine Blake uh Spears with six Chase Youngman with three Lance knobby with 13.
so I'm just curious here look looking at this it says that uh for 2022 seniors completing 30-year plus units can you remind us all what is the upper and upper end amount of units that that a student would have been able to units that a student would have been able to receive if they'd been in the uh this this program throughout their time so that the 30 plus is um based on them starting at 11th grade so next year we're launching students being able to begin that in ninth grade so they'll be able to earn up to 60. up to 60. okay so starting next year up to 60 will be the upper end limit correct for ninth graders so that program will launch for that the ninth grade cohort so the students who are reflected here um entered at 11th grade and so that means that for for those students who entered at 11th grade what is the upper end limit that would have been available for them I believe it's 30 but all there okay okay and then just for clarification uh so next year there will be two entry points correct so there'll be a ninth grade entry point um and I believe um Mr Fernandez has already said that those applications and those interest forms are super high but then because that's starting at ninth grade we will still have the 11th grade entry point as well so as not to miss uh students along the way and that will continue or that's just for this upcoming year there will be two entry points moving forward that I I'm not sure I we haven't thought it through probably it has to be at least for two more years at least um so that again we're not missing students who might have missed uh an entry point yes on on page 17 I I had asked for a total amount of students in the program and how many completed it right for for all three um I would like to also you know having a conversation of um having uh past data to be able to compare right um moving forward since we're going to be moving into one high school I think it would be would be um great if we could have it like a you know start like a three-year study to assess the strengths and the weaknesses of each of the programs at the high school level since we are going to have IB we're going to have dual immersion dual enrollment excuse me eventually right right um right and since we are starting this is like historic here we we're starting our our dual enrollment at ninth grade and so with this new program coming through I I would like to see a three-year study moving forward to be able to see the strengths the weaknesses of each program and how we can improve um and tailor it to the needs of our our children but remember audience we have been uh pretty um transparent about the fact that uh we're merging the two schools and right now uh we are looking to have all of the programs that exist at Gladstone High School come over to Azusa High School but to your point uh we do agree um that after they have after the programs have existed at the one high school and giving them an opportunity to take root and to grow and we're not talking just about these here we're talking about Pathways as well right those kinds of things um then we we have to make decisions um if the data is pointing one way or the other uh but that for initially we would give all the programs an opportunity to to grow thriving and take root absolutely I think that that was my point for us to start this news as we're transitioning into one high school is transitioning to a new you know new middle school as we are downsizing um and what does that look like for our students so that way we can strengthen um see the weaknesses see the strengths see where the Gap where we need to merge most the gap we're going to go into a new era people here like I'm so excited to you know to to be able to do this um one more thing we we um I know that we uh spoke about this before I don't know what um and what uh meeting but um what what are we what are we doing to to excite our our neighbors about our new Middle School um you know our this this ribbon cutting are we inviting our you know our other elected officials and Covina Glendora you know even the elected officials even if it's not you know the parents right now this is just tomorrow right you know we should be able to invite other school board members um other superintendents teachers and so forth right um and other parents from other districts because I'm getting all of the mailers from other districts and seeing how exciting and programs that they have going on and I I would like to you know as we're moving into this era um let's talk about let's have a conversation about that you know um how big do we want our mailer do we want to be published in the LA Times in San Gabriel Valley um but anyhow um moving forward um I would like to go ahead and start to see this data uh compiling and present you guys can come and present in a couple years and see what happens thank you so I'm almost almost done here um if we look at page 22 the 20 second slide it's just the same question but different different categories but but the exact same question looking at at this um and so yes 41 of all 49 of all students third grade students are meeting this it means 51 are not um and similar to on page 28 the diversity and the idea about uh speaking out against excuse me speaking out Against Racism I I'd say the same thing this kind of reminds me to students who feel connected or feel that their voice is being heard this is just another one of those um not not necessarily academically connected areas but but how do we what what what are we doing and also how does this compare to as we look at previous years and and then the overarching thing that I I just say um and I feel like I've said a little bit of this along the way which is yeah how do we interpret this like when we when we look at this look at this data um there are certainly some things here that are that are are not you know that are concerning um and and as we look at the things that are here that are concerning what what are the ways so for us as a as a board who we don't we're not neces it's not our job to get into the to the weeds of how all this is implemented but it but it is for us to look at these uh at this data and see how things are progressing and so for us to be able to receive this data in such a way that that we can look and I when I see this and I see it's 49 but if but if this was 12 again if it's 12 or four and now we're up to 49 this is huge we should we need it we should let's celebrate this um but without being able to really compare it to previous Years or or being able to see the larger picture um it just appears concerning and so I'm wanting to keep that I'm wanting to keep it in in context um and and just ask yeah what do we do and that's a that's a broad question that I'm asking and so I'm not I'm not necessarily asking specifics for each one of these things that we do but I guess I am saying from year to year when we get this data how does this impact what initiatives we put in place for the following year so as to actually make improvements because if we don't then we shouldn't be surprised if we don't see certain increases and improvements uh from year to year that's a that's a great question and that's exactly the point of when we examine this data is it does inform what are what are our next steps as we move forward so some of the work that we're looking at in terms of our Dei committee is you know when we look at um I don't remember what side it was but you know students Comfort level speaking about diverse groups um we are looking at some potential trainers to come to support um groups and and how do how do we have these kinds of conversations so exactly to your point when we look at this data it you know gives us an indicator but also what are some areas that we need to move on and what are some things that you know when we have our supplemental concentration dollars what do they need to be focused on so that we ensure that we are closing those gaps for those specific students um so that we don't you know continue to see um some of the things that we don't want to see and those are all my questions uh president I have a question go ahead yeah I'm looking at this um July 30.
if you would have told me I'd be standing here less than a year later being recognized for an award like this I would not have believed you um I am so thankful to make Batavia history as the 2023 North Suburban Regional teacher of the year I'm honored to be able to represent Batavia as one of the 13 finalists for Illinois teacher of the year uh what I learned from the Illinois superintendent that I won this award I was told that I was receiving it because of my Relentless pursuit of equity for our students all of our students deserve to feel like they belong and it is my goal to continue striving for this they deserve an environment a hundred percent committed to ensuring they feel like they belong and we owe it to them to provide this and do it sooner rather than later I'm so grateful for this recognition and I want to take some time to express my appreciation to those who have helped me get here I want to express my gratitude for the support and encouragement I have received from my fellow staff members students and parents and community members the fact that you all believe in me and trust my leadership means everything to me you've been there during the times I wanted to give up but you encouraged me to take the time I needed while you carried on in my place that's a true Ally you refuse to sit on the sidelines I could not have done this without your help recently I've had people ask how they can become more involved with our Grassroots campaign as we work to prioritize our work on ensuring all students belong to do this speak up when you see Injustice and inequities within our district and Community use the chain of command by reaching out to principals our Administration um in the board let them know how you feel about the district's current Equity efforts and any suggestions that you may have let fam let family and friends know that it is not okay when they are showing bigoted Behavior though these are difficult conversations this is how we change the system that has caused our students so much trauma it is okay if we mess up and say the wrong thing we need to own it learn from it and do better next time we owe this to our students we just do this with we need to do this with Fidelity so we can be active in helping us knock down these systemic barriers for our students doing the right thing is difficult but it's worth it in honor of Black History Month I want to close with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr that I just recently discovered um I felt a connection to it with us being the same age um and its quote is you may be 38 years old as I happen to be and one day some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle some great issue some great cause and you refuse to do it because you're afraid you refuse to do it because you want to live longer you're afraid to lose that job or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity so you refuse to take the stand well you may go on and live until you're 90 but you're just as dead at 38 as you would be at 90.
Kai Dyer with 13 cheater Edwards with three Atkins with four Jack McKenzie with six Granger Maxwell with two and eight Tebby with two into the half with a big momentum shift with Kai with that three in the corner yeah what needs to happen right here in these next two three minutes for the Pirates you know I'm gonna sound like a broken record but I'm just gonna focus on one possession at a time trying to do the fundamental easy play like if if offensively if it's not there and you gotta run 45 seconds a minute of offense do it if if it's not there Don't Force It make sure your guys are taking their individual good shot and that means something different from Jeter than it does for Addison Barnes Pettit than it does for Kai Dyer but make sure you take your good shot and they come out with the set and Jeter drives in and has enough scrap to handle it and get a layup so good start and now let's see if we can defend and equally on the defensive end have a little Grit and keep them in front of you being help side and do what you need to do just like Kai Dyer did right there and he just disrupted enough and Addison Barnes Pettit nice drives out of pressure and good choice by Jeter and here we are running offense here's here's where the Pirates get tested can we dig in and run some offense here and I okay that works good ball reversal good coming off the pick my Kai top of the key three-pointer and you know what I'll give Jeter Edwards a lot of credit there he looked like he was going to force it he decided he didn't have it pulled it out we had a reversal then got the down screen for the shooter and mucker Hyde misses and Addison Barnes Pettit making a hustle play got knocked on knocked on the ground got up was able to secure the rebound see if they can repeat rinse and repeat here another good possession on offense got a swing pass to Jeter how important it is in our offense to get that reversal so important because teams are going to Sag help side [Music] [Applause] and what an ideal start for the Pirates here score seven straight points here to start the half deep three and fling Spears that's his third three that's pretty pure yeah Lefty there good stroke Chris Mullen style it actually is it does it does resemble Chris he owns a lot of generationally our listeners know who that is but kids are probably in the stand so yeah most people do know who Chris Mullins and if they're listening ended his career with the Pacers I believe I believe so [Applause] with his first Kai being a little Relentless there and Drew the foul and mucker Hyde Pirates take it out in a box set a little misdirection Jack gathers himself gathers the rebound and hard nose play ers reaching over the top so another set inbounds to Addison Barnes Pettit Jeter feeling it no good from the corner 37-34 Pirates have the advantage North Decatur's coach Metz calls out a set looking to get something going here fronting knobby he's underneath the bucket Atkins scrapping oh great Hustle by Justin what a great play oh a little Scoopy doopy there that's the kind of stretch that's going to win the ball game a good hard Scrappy play by Atkins and and Then followed up with Kai Dyer oh the two-hand jam [Applause] [Music] so North Decatur chooses to call timeout and they are down 41-34 after a fantastic start to the quarter but as I was as I was saying it's no secret that a good hard gritty play by Justin Atkins leads to good things on the offensive end they usually compliment one another and it was right here in front of us based off where our broadcast Booth is and Atkins just got in there and got his nose dirty and come up with a loose ball I also think it's like like Justin understands his role yeah defense rebound on the on the ground get after the ball and little things like that can jump start an offense real quick so Justin has always understood his role because he's out and selfish of a player and he's getting better throughout the course of year being able to do it legally without being called for fouls yeah we remain on the floor yeah earlier he was on the bench a lot so there North Decatur comes out with a great set and Chase is off the curl and is able to get an easy look for knobby which they needed and now the Pirates try to respond balls in the corner of Addison Barnes Pettit gets it to Kai Dyer Pirates reversa all the way down to the corner Ball's deflected skip pass McKenzie for three we need it we need it good shot Jack's McKenzie and when in order for us to be at our best at sectional time we need Jack McKenzie to have some confidence and particular against Justin here for a hold on his third he didn't mean it he didn't mean he was just trying to hustle and he was not he was you know he wasn't thrilled with the guy who called it not on the Christmas card list good defenser by Abe and good rebound by really was good sound defense Abe's got those like Kevin McHale long long arms Kevin McHale [Music] probably a little bit of a force there by Kai North Decatur down eight with the ball I like the attitude or the approach that we have coming out defending being gritty yeah and there we see an example of it again we're able to get the Stacy understands how important his possession is oh good block there ah I thought Jack did everything right there getting him off their feet good choice good choice staying patient absolutely nice pass oh I don't think Abe quite knew where he was on the under under the hoop did he get pinned by the phone there I don't know it looked we didn't have a real good angle it looked weird can we check the replay guys on the the broadcast team Blake uh Blake Collins isn't on that level yet of the uh replay don't pick on Blake no he's a good boy once again Pirates tried to settle in it's about the third pass that Addison has thrown and it's been tipped [Applause] Pirates settle in once again 44-38 is the score two minutes to go Jack McKenzie shoots the three it's no good Messer oh I thought he's out of control there but I think I can get McKenzie for his second line for North Dakota Master at the line to shoot two has he been to the line yet today he has not [Applause] and he's short on the first one North Dakota bringing some subs in breed's still looking for his first points tonight second free throw is up and good Pirates up five looking to get a bucket here Kai isolated oh that would have went in that was good that is a great play by Jeter it's good Strong Finish [Music] and I think Jeter's length gives some people some problems on both sides yeah when he's locked in defensively and then rebounding the ball and there's the Freshman Chase Youngman with the three that's his second three-pointer of the evening kid can shoot a little bit either greensburg's doing a really good job or North Decatur's kind of gotten away from going to Nabi a little bit he's uh he's been a little quiet here in the second half no problem no problem didn't handle it well so we bring it out run some offense and one so I referenced Jack McKenzie's confidence like that is a good strong confident move that's the that's the kind of office we need from him yeah as we move forward in the tournament right got Bradley Lutz checking in for Addison you know every every year we've been calling these games for a long time every year every team has a little bit different feel but like I will say this particular Squad there are particular roles with all these guys that we need yes like we need Jeter to do these things we need Jack to do these things we need Bradley lust to fill these minutes and even going down to Granger Maxwell we need it yeah and we get all those things together I like our Squad and the nice thing is you don't need them to do more than that just stick to your role but the downside of that as well-rounded as a team we are when we really depend upon one of those roles and they don't deliver it it's it's really noticed yes it gets noticed quickly the land snobby 16th point tonight he's missed one free throw he has missed one free throw I just throw that in there see what happens and he bangs that one in he's still in this one we'll bring it up again later see if it works 32 seconds to go pirates are up by five Jim ponzler I think is wanting to get on the air he's looking over here like he wants a special interview Jimmy Jim is our SRO here at the high school we appreciate his service he might respectfully decline and that's okay it is okay it is okay we're down to 10 seconds Jeter has it up top but look like we got a ball screen going he's Shifty he gets by oh step back from the [Applause] setback from the something so five point Advantage with one quarter to go I like our spot I like our spot better than where we were at halftime obviously absolutely had a great third quarter um talked about our approach our attitude we decided to come out and defend and be physical um and match the physicality of North Decatur and it put us in a good spot so leading scorers right now for the Pirates we've got Kai Dyer with 18 Jack McKenzie with 16 Jeter Edwards with seven Atkins with four um and Granger and Abe got both coming in at two [Music] Lance snobby leading the Chargers with 17.
I see here it says that Steph's Comfort level for speaking about diversity that diversity equity and inclusion I guess for me I'm just curious to see what I study or survey was given I don't know if we can be transparent about that um and then also how do we measure um the children feeling comfortable about that I'm trying to understand that so please come topics or specific questions that are in the youth proof uh survey uh there's a section on diversity equity and inclusion and there are questions that are specific to for example you mentioned diversity there's a question specifically uh like the diversity and we take the percentage from there is there a way to get a copy of that or yeah we can provide you a copy of the report and then again when we receive our new results in a mark we'll be sharing that with the board as well so um these uh responses were in 2022 so last spring but we're we should be receiving in March the survey that just closed so we'll have something to to look at to compare and and the survey that's given to the students or the questions is that also available yeah the questions are listed um so you can look at the survey by topic or you can look by specific questions and then we can desegregate the data and look at uh specific subgroups by questions so there's a lot that we can do with it is there a way I can get a copy of that absolutely and I realize I I want to make sure that I also say thank you very much like one of the this is it takes it takes work to to synthesize this data and to provide this data to to provide us with the information to know what steps to take and and where we need to focus and and you know where our strengths are and where our areas of growth are but I want to make sure that I'm saying thank you for for the work that that's here um and yeah I'm excited to see us continue to utilize this data and roll up our continue to roll up our sleeves um to uh you know provide the the best opportunities and and and you know potential for for growth for our students that we possibly can so thank you for the presentation any further comments by the board I just want to also extend my gratitude um during working in marketing I I know data collection and being able to to do all this is a lot of work and I know that we're asking for more work but thank you for being so flexible and um accommodating to our to you know to our questions and and we appreciate you we're in this together right absolutely yes I just want to Echo um board member Greer and um Adriana's comments with respect to just saying we appreciate you for your work and the staff as well board member you did a great job cabinet and I know everyone worked together very well to make this happen but yeah thank you moving on to item 3.2 budget proposal update Mr Jamal will this be your item yes ma'am thank you [Music] so good evening Dr Bill Board of Education and members of cabinet um tonight I will be presenting um a budget update based off the January's Governor's um budget um presentation that we attended in January so here we're outlining the governor's proposed budget one of his main goals is that the governor is focused on maintaining the programs where it's possible and trimming down some I'm so far based on the governor's current projections the only reduction we will see is in one of our categorical grants so here we have the prop 98 resources and um and also outlining the key goals that we're finding in the governor's budget um he will maintain the purchasing power of our lcff which is our local control funding um he will continue to um fund transitional um kindergarten that is one of his goals and initiative um also um the budget um further furthers um Equity uh Equity shortfalls I'm going to use that word um or closing the learning Gap this is a new funding line that the governor is proposing this year for lcff um and also Governor Newson will be making a reduction of about 35 percent and one of our um our Arts and Music Grant what does that look like for our district for the reduction in Arts and Music so um so um was risky so first of all if we lose it that's approximately I'm gonna say our allocation is almost 2 million and then so it'll be 35 of that whereas risky is that all districts were awarded their allocation last fiscal year and it will be next fiscal year where they'll make the decision if we have to send back funds um the one good thing about our district is that we had a spending plan and we did not spend everything at once so we wouldn't be having to cut some programs but we are also hopeful that this is not materialized but as of right now it will be a 35 reduction and the Arts and Music Grant and do we do we um we get grants um or Arts and Music have we gotten any Grant we do we currently have a grant and an art visual art specific Grant um through a collaborative and I believe there's one other that could be wrong I'll double check on that you're welcome so oh hold on Latasha okay here we go I apologize so um this is the lcff overview so we have three um funding changes are um that we're excited about one um from first interim to now we have an increased Cola first interim our projected Cola for next year was 5.36 um this year right now is projected to be a 8.13 cola um the governor is also adding that Equity multiplier which is based off each specific school um one at a secondary I mean elementary level and two at a secondary level for our secondary schools if our free percentage of our student population is 85 percent we will receive additional funding and our elementary schools if our free population is over 95 we would receive additional funding at this time we would not receive those fundings because we have a high population of reduce um families and not free families so we're open that if there's a trend that this does not materialize meaning a lot of leas could receive the funds the governor will change his position but right now is based off each individual school to receive this additional fund we also have our categorical funds um this year um the governor is going to actually apply the cola to some of our categoricals typically in the past the cola is typically only applied to lcf funding so we're excited about that and I will show which of our categorical funds will receive this so this side is just out I'm outlining the equity multiplier um again the goal of the multiplier is to close the achievement gaps also to allow us to do additional um um funding resources um fulfill prior commitments it's not as restrictive to spend the funds but it is very um challenging to receive the funds to qualify for the fund so here are the categorical funds that we will receive that we actually have that we will receive the cola 8.3 percent that is our nutrition services our mandated block grant our special special education fund from the state only and state preschool and here is just outlining um the funding that we receive so our cost of living Cola will be tied it will also forward onto our grade spent adjustment we receive grade spin adjustment for grades TK to three as well as 9-12 it'll also increase our supplemental concentration which will also increase our unduplicated and the reason why it's showing a pillar is because our base Grant actually feeds into the other category of funding so now I'm going to outline what this all means specifically for our addition so at first interim this is showing the change in Cola so we're excited the cola for this year signed it won't be changing but the Colo 4 the projected Cola for 23.24 is projected to increase to 8.3 but you'll also see a projected decrease in Cola in the out years from four percent at first um interim to 3.54 and going to 26 27.
and the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit thank you again and I cannot wait to represent our amazing Community as a finalist for the Illinois teacher of the year [Applause] my goodness an impromptu for the speech teacher um I'm still getting kind of used to this because I was very floored when I was told about the nomination I really think that the four of us are representative of the Educators that we have in this District it's not just the four of us it's every teacher every custodian every paraprofessional every single person who's in that building every admin who are working to help our students and it's the kids who are in our classroom which I have had many many of your children in my classroom that I think bring us there every day just to I think help them find their voice and help them find what their purpose is and know that they will make a difference in this world and that's what we do every day so thank you foreign we have great reason to celebrate in our district so congratulations once again to all of our honorees and uh thank you all thanks Dad [Applause] I'd like to invite up a representative from the Batavia special education Partners Network bsp oh yeah I don't know it's best Partners yeah thank you well this isn't a tough act to follow oh my goodness oh wow yes we will do our best well good evening my name is Danielle Mahoney and I am the parent chair for the Batavia special education parent Network or bspn for short we work in collaboration with BPS namely with this amazing woman here Leanne Rodriguez speech therapist in early childhood at AGS as well as with Carrie Roo the director of special education um I am we're all here to help share who we are because a lot of people think we're just a newly formed group and we're not actually this organization started about 13 years ago and so we just want to share that we're here bspn includes parents Guardians special education teachers School therapists and administrators within the BPS 101.
so with one quarter to play you got the uh Pirates up by five 49-44 we have not had any uh Taco Bell jump balls or or uh or anything like that it's been a really I mean pretty low-key for my official standpoint it's been the low-key guys absolutely I think I think the officials have called it a consist a consistent game and let the players play I'm still waiting for that corporate sponsor to approach GTV and say hey let's get in a partnership here I think I think it's in the works when we get the classroom built and we get a little more yeah um situated we'll get you know maybe at Wings and Rings and a Taco Bell you know you have the you have the term low hanging fruit yes I I I think I think that sponsorship deal I would compare to that yeah just get in there and pick it yeah I have oranges apples whatever all right let me get back to basketball here we go North Decatur down five trying to have a good possession here and they're throwing the lob to knobby and nice pass that is and when the ball's on the top and you throw a lob like that there's no help side and it's got to have ball pressure that's why I can't make it easy for the passer to throw that type of pass Pirates have it there's Bradley lust number 10 taking it in gets a shot blocked eight grabs it Jeter's got it and he gets in and great finish by Jeter a contested finish even as he gathered himself 51-46 mucker Heights danced around the screen and he gets snakes in isn't able to finish Greensburg pushes nothing there swings it to the right side Kai ball fake pull up jumper good and Stacy's going to take the time out just like he normally does in this situation 53-46 after after having a field goal here so you said he normally does why why would he because when you talk about possessions and you combine a score with a hold and then you followed up with another score that's a four point swing we're in the fourth quarter he just had a hold actually coincidentally on this end he got a score he's gonna get a timeout if he can combine it with another hold and a score you're going to say it's 55-46 all of a sudden it's a nine point game with about five minutes and 40 seconds to go and that's provided all things go right right you're just providing your team a chance to set up and and maximize The Possession and also you get a quick shot of saying or a quick opportunity to tell your team hey guys here's our priorities we've got the score here's what we're focusing on be physical coach him up and let's see what they can do here and there's Chris Mullins oh and so finally got one there we go so there we go we got the hold and we've got hold on two possessions now let's see if Greensburg can stretch it to nine maybe stretch it to ten uh nothing doing and nothing there don't hate the shot though don't hate it no it's good coming off the screen good ball reversal coming through through the flow of the offense and there's the Lefty again he's not afraid fellas and now coach Metz takes the time out of his own after trimming the lead to four so see see that balance there like we had a chance to take it the lead to nine and now they come down and make a three and now it's the four yeah and each team is strategizing taking the time out trying to take advantage of what they got here and spring some possessions on both sides of the floor together so 552 to go I would say neither team do you have you have foul counts or anybody in trouble uh for North Farmer's got two linkmyers got two for Greensburg Atkins has got three okay so Justin would be the only one that would be so foul trouble-ish as we referenced before you know official officials done a great job very balanced um no I know the Atkins has Atkins has three but it's letting the players play Lutz is able to secure that he steps over dumps it down to tubby tubby good Gathering finish [Applause] good sequence right there I wonder if it was talked about in the time oh my goodness [Applause] so remember we talked about valuing the ball here this wouldn't be anything wrong with running a bunch of offense here I thought I heard coach Marielle to a layup 41 delay yeah so he's probably thinking the same thing you are we don't need an ill-advised outside shot right now we need something at the basket [Applause] that's got to be something doesn't it yeah just a hard hustle Play Nothing that would be Blake Spears's second wow did he tricky there he was gonna pull he thought about it good defense by Lance Navi it was and here's mucker Hyde and he slices can't finish and Coach Metzel is probably not real thrilled with that uh with that layup choice right there and now look we're gonna go spread we're getting a tabby out of the post and looks like it's more of a five out and he tries oh look at that guy hey Debbie feeling it that's a great time I'm gonna applaud here absolutely great take by eight Tebby and that was created by going five out and kind of caught him asleep there tie Dyer's got a we got a foul off the ball here it looks like fouls on Brad Lutz [Music] it's good to see Colin rickney tonight he's good boy yeah and I'll be with another two that's 21 for Lance kid can score it a little bit he can [Music] Bradley Lutz off the curl kicks Dave Tebby Jeter flashes Pirates running some offense Kai creates some space draws the foul that'll be number three on Parmer being his third side out of bounds here for the Pirates they're able to get it in with a little pressure Mackenzie looking to handle the pressure drives to the rim kicks to Tebby up top Bradley Lutz good Strong Finish [Applause] 59-51 here Pirates are up with three minutes to go knobby spins and misses the North Decatur is able to get the offensive rebound [Applause] Bradley and Stace is going to take another timeout here so [Applause] 62-53 nine point lead for the Pirates 2 43 to go but I'm gonna I'm gonna flip the script on okay what do you think Stacy's what do you think Stacy's talking about in this timeout well if it were me and mind you here we go hey mind you Michael so now I'm talking about possessions I'm talking about defensive pressure and not giving up any second second chance points so don't let them offensive rebound don't create turnovers when we don't need to create turnovers and let's get to the hoop because we're almost into bonus and if we're gonna win the game let's win it on the free throw line and just be done with it I agree with all those things oh look I got a little camera on us here well that's fun that's exciting for the crew Eli Moore I give you a shout out thank you Eli I got this blue cable right in front of my face though yeah it's good oh so I would also anticipate that Stacy's telling them to predict pressure so they may come out and trap it yeah of course they might come out something in full court but they're going to try to cause a disruption we gotta be strong with it you gotta make good good decisions with the basketball and sometimes that means taking the layup and look we come out in the 3-2 here no we're still in the man I thought it looked I thought it was zone two hang on we'll we'll check that for you the way Bradley was playing it kind of looked like we were in that zone which we'll check that again now it looks like we're matched up Jack's up now getting some getting some Snapchats here yeah got uh some oil fans out there yeah appreciate the the two fans out there that are super loyal to us yeah I'd give you two guesses who they are yeah well it's not my wife she's asleep so well then there's one yeah there's one thanks for the one loyal listener out there we appreciate you plus Sandy's watching then then there'd be too God bless her oh cut him off knobby for three nothing Bradley good to hard rebound and an aggressive bounce pass yeah put a lot of effort into that it's firm Kai has it crosses up oh he's got him isolated hands are quick that's pretty good defense by Abe looks like Bob King is upset but he did not like it Bob Bob thought that was not a foul he got to his feet quickly he's gonna ask Colin but Colin was picking his fingernails so he wasn't real paying attention hey you leave Colin alone leave that poor boy though mucker hide at the line to shoot two North Decatur's down by nine with exactly two minutes to go mucker Hyde misses the first one let's see if mucker height can convert to second good and here's that pressure that we talked about it's a Zone trap looking to trap in the corner and good ball faked by Jeter now you should break some pressure good choice by Jack McKenzie look Stacy tells him to hold it up they're going to go spread I would get it out of that corner and we'll take it yep we'll take it Blake Spears is third we'll take it send Jack to the line shooting the two I'm going to ask you another strategy question here do we do we like the do we like the lineup that's in the game like knowing that Jack makes the first one he's gonna make the second one for the Good Vibes we like the guys on the floor for defense here yeah I think he I mean the way the energy is going the way things are going it yeah okay it's we're leaving here to stick with and we are this is the zone is that a 3-2 or it is it is a 3-2 we've done this a time or two throughout the season know where your Shooters are that's that's the guy and there it is Blake Spears with his one two three four fifth three-pointer that's 15 points for him so with that happening right there is is the Zone gone or do you coach up the zone and try to come back to the break it's a great question uh [Music] I'm gonna say I'm gonna say yes if if there were three minutes to go in the game I'd probably give it one more possession but at this point I would say yes this this last minute and a half is probably going to be pretty frantic so it's not going to matter all that much um but [Music] there's no doubt that North Decatur they're going to come out in some pressure they showed Zone yeah a Zone full court pressure where they tried to trap in the corner I don't know if they have a Man Press where they try to you know play center field and deny the inbound man-to-man as fast as mucker high did you could probably just put him on the ball and just let him create some Havoc [Music] this is the part where scouting comes into play like you've seen North Decatur in these situations they're going to a man Man Press now they are and they actually have a band kind of loosely on the ball here so we're flashing there here comes the Trap good find kick it out good good smart play eat the clock nice nice Brad oh I really wish you would use the glass you almost got a little ahead of yourself yeah yeah goodness goodness Mercy on Peter I know the I know the textbook says do not foul there but like I don't know what you what you want our guys to do with that yeah plucker height is so Shifty yeah he he attacked the gap between two guys and I don't really think our guys reached her yeah or hacked it's easy to criticize after the fact we're not guarding him no I can't guard him to be honest um but not even in my Prime tough play my state in front of him yeah yep and let me tell you about the Prime oh tell us all will ya it was oh my goodness glorious so it's turn over there 66-59 Bradley cause a deflection good thing because Spears was going to pull that one right there and there's Palmer okay good rebound okay 66-59 we got a seven point lead with 44 seconds to go someone needs to close the door yeah is there it's getting drafted so here's Jack McKenzie for for one-on-one here North Decatur just got their 17th foul and first one's up and rattles in good big free throw there [Applause] at what point as a coach do you feel like it's safe not not at what point as a fan do you feel like it's safe oh they're all fans are hitting the door now so as a coach I don't think it's safe there's Jeter and he gets fouled he's gonna go shoot a one-on-one [Applause] you know I guess you can start feeling like it's a little safe now but I I would not would not let up I would not make any subs I would not relax I would not just finish this out if it holds true this is going to move North Decatur to 18 and five with uh they play Rushville in two Nays at home I assume that'd probably be their senior night and then they have South Ripley in the sectional on March 3rd Jeter Edwards with the second free throw to make it 11 point game and that free throw is Bingo up and good pushes knobby for three nothing doing Bradley good rebound and farmer gets the foul s [Music] lunch goes online for the 101.
we were projecting a 3.58 Cola and right now it's projected to be at 3.23 Pull-Ups for the first time in a long time both Department of Finance and school Services is actually aligned but they are telling us that that is because um both have the potential of us seeing it may revise a reduction if the recession were to hit but right now everyone is feeling hopeful that we will get through um May re revision and we'll um 8.3 will materialize but it's the out years that we're done um here is just showing our enrollment and Ada projections there's no change but just so going forward all of our funding that we receive on lcff is based on the predicated either on our enrollment or our average daily of attendance so this is just for um context just to see where we were at first interim and these are the factors that we'll be utilizing for the rest of this presentation so we're going to start breaking down and dissecting our local control funding formula yes ma'am and then Roman Ada the blues the enrollment can we go back to the experiment okay and the Ada is orange for our viewers at home can you explain that a little more yes so the blue identifies the students that are actually enrolled in our district um the Ada is the average daily attendance so we're funded on every day we receive funding based on every day a student is actually in class we do not receive funding just because they enrolled in our district so the more the students are absence the less are funding we projected all of our Ada typically we're about a 95 percentile and right now we're realizing our Ada is dropped down to about 90 to 91 percent do we have any um I know I've said this before but I haven't seen it um campaigns for our attendance since it is dropping do we have like campaigns to um get parents you know riled up like a long time and you know it's cool I don't know English sure yes ma'am so so we're we are um as Adriana had shared a little earlier when we were talking about chronic absenteeism we have been paying a lot of attention to the data where you know there are some specific needs and targeting those specific groups of parents um also through our elect meetings you know that's one of the required topics that we cover is the importance of attendance the rules around attendance um and all of those kinds of things um but we are definitely looking at that as a big push to increase that that attendance rate and we also brought um the stuff we have where we have our budget Review Committee and we brought down our decline in Ada with our Union partners and seeing how we could partner with them to stress the importance of attendance and we do have until April to get our attendance rate up by P2 um so we're um Confident by sharing this data with our um principals and our administrators that we can try to figure out what the target um figure out our Target population we're trying we are seeing the trend is in our um TK Kinder classes so how we can educate our families to help to understand the importance of being in class so in another District El Monte Union High I think it's called um or El Monte study I know that they have um child welfare and attendance uh directors great bad half campaigns so for example they have um a a hot dog in hamburger or you know what not a celebration to the kids that have not been absent um you know incentives like that so the Child Welfare attendance director will launch the campaign the parents he will have a meeting with the parents and you know and the target goal and I can't remember there's a slogan that they use um so what happens is every child wants to come to this party it's it's a party and they're going to eat and you know have games and I think it was about a month ago they had a foam attitude to their their little party and so oh the kids were just you know we're telling the teachers I'm not gonna I I I'm not sick but but I'm a little coughing a little bit but but I want I want to get 100 you know and so just the incentive just something small and I know that we used to do this before back in the day at odd when my 20 year old was there as a kindergartner um where PTA or the you know that principal that was there would launch and just just that Community I would not see it in other schools so maybe food for thought that um food does bring people together um a little hot dog or whatnot for a child is too big to eat with their you know their other friends and have a um a bubble party or a phone party you know is big for them and it's an incentive even for them and they will drag their parents you know like I want to hit that 100 Mark to go to that part so I don't know food for thought something that we can look forward to yes ma'am all right so we're going to go to our lcff so this is our base Grant um this is the first of um several pillars that make up our total lcf funding um so this is outlying the amount that we received per Ada um so every student came to school every day um taking a consideration of the cola and TK we will receive 9911 for each student um that would also be true if we go down to our 9th and 12th graders if they were at school every day we would receive 12 um for that student um but again every time a student is absent this is decreased um on an average basis for our students so taking this in consideration based on our current projected funded Ada are projected lcff base Grant allocation for next fiscal year is approximately 73.6 million dollars now we're going to go to our great span adjustment which is our next pillar for our lcff so we received a grade span for Grace TK through three as well as grades 9 through 12.
and our primary goal is to create a support network for parents a special education students as a parent myself to be a parent is hard but to be a parent of a child with special needs is really hard and to have a network any kind of network or support is is just all you need because not a lot of parents have that and so we're here whether your child has an individualized education plan a 504 plan just receives extra supports or therapies we're here for you we offer a number of events throughout the school year such as various presentations showcasing our amazing talented staff that we have here at BPS and their Specialists we offer coffee chats whether they're with in Rotolo High School any of the administration but we also just do parent chats so we can have a non-judgmental way of just sitting and whether it's to laugh cry celebrate looking for who do you use for a dentist we're here um and we also like to have some fun too we just were at the brewery at sturdy shelter the other day so it's just not all about you know coffee um but our largest event is our parent resource fair and this year is actually our 10th year it's this Thursday February 23rd it's at the Batavia High School in the cafeteria uh it is an opportunity to learn about Community Resources for students from early childhood all the way through age 22 plus it includes Recreation opportunities therapy providers transition planning advocacy and support you name it they're there we actually have almost 50 organizations and agencies attending this year last year I think we had 16.
well now I feel like it's uh yeah okay yeah I think the uh the proverbial ladies warming up her vocal cords so oh Bradley Lutz Off the Mark there North Decatur one last hurray here mucker Hide nope over to the left wing shots up and three is good Jack McKenzie trying to be strong with it oh my God and a tabby one last foul here that'll be number five on Parma well certainly want to wish both teams good luck uh here in next week in the in the sectional Greensburg will play on Wednesday against South Dearborn in the second game um and then like I already said on March 3rd North Dakota will play South Ripley at South Ripley Greensburg hosting the sectional this year so there'll be plenty of parking as opposed to the other place that we play where the parking is not so good I'm gonna just let that hang all right say anything I [Music] there's mucker Hyde getting a junk bucket late Greensburg 70 North Decatur 64.
um both were increased by the cola so we're going to receive additional 77 for grades TK through third an additional 23 dollars for Grace 9 through 12. that's going to make um the grade span adjustment for TK the third a thousand dollars 1030 and for a 9-12 we receive additional three hundred and twelve dollars and again this is also on base on Ada So based on our funded projected funded Ada for the next fiscal year our total grade span adjustment that we will receive is approximately 2.8 million now we're going to look at our total lcfs base Grant allocation when we include the grade spin adjustment plus the base funding we are looking at approximately 76.5 million dollars in our base allocation um this is important because one is based off Ada but two are lcff dollars make up almost 85 percent of our funding allocation that um how we pay for all of our resources for our district here is our supplemental concentration um where this one is important our supplemental concentration is a direct reflection of our current year Ada everything else is based off prior year funding um prior year Ada calculation that's given to us by the state but our supplemental concentration is based on our actual Ada um so if we receive if we realize the decline in Ada are supplemental concentration will actually be impacted for the current fiscal year um right now we're showing that we're projecting to receive 13.5 million dollars in supplemental adaptation for the concentration allocation is 12.8 and for the concentration add-on is 3.8 all of our supplemental concentration funds are directly tied to our lcap plan that was presented on earlier today so now we're going to look at our total projected Revenue um right now based off the lcff face supplemental concentration add-on as well as our um um our targeted of inclusion on block grant our transportation block grant and our new transitional kindergarten Grant we are projected to receive 108 million dollars from lcff from state revenue additional projected state revenue that we're slated to receive we have our Lottery dollars as you can see here there is no increase in projected Lottery um we receive 170 per Ada for unrestricted um resources um that we could utilize for instructional materials um but then we also received 67 um in Lottery funds for restricted that is only allowable to be used for like textbook adoptions yes sir just for clarity once um on slide 18.
so um we have a broad audience that we're here to support so we have a lot of amazing folks including our fire department our Police Department our library just as an example that their our community itself is here admission is free it's not just for Batavia Community though we welcome any families within our neighboring communities and towns to please come out and you don't even need to have a child that's receiving any special education services you may even have someone who's just looking for some extra therapy supports um they'll be there we put some flyers out by the front desk here so if you don't remember our webpage if you want to know exactly who all is coming or to learn more about our group sign up for our email list to receive updates as to what all the happenings are and to see all the other upcoming events we have for the year you can visit bspn batavia.org do you have anything you want to add this lovely lady has been amazing and has taken the reins and has done a ton of work um to gather so many resources for our family so we are really looking forward to Thursday night's event and we just really would love a large crowd so if we can help spread the word and get as many families within our district outside of the district to come and and just visit with our vendors I know they we always get such positive feedback from families that do attend and we just really you know thankful for the administration's support and for all the families that come and help support us and we just want to be a network and work together for all of our families so yeah yeah thank you that's the time oh good question oh I'm sorry yes uh six to seven thirty six to seven thirty so you can pop in for however long you're able to and if you need to bring your children that's okay too I know a lot of the agencies and organizations will love to meet them I know they want to meet mine but yeah foreign [Applause] next item on our agenda is our committee updates from board members Erin we'll start with you Aaron kelberg all right I've got some notes um so I'm on the insurance committee they met on February 9th and we had a what I would call a robust discussion centered on the recent switch of the district's medical insurance to healthgram and as a reminder this change was recommended by the insurance committee to deliver with the goal of delivering better benefits to her to help our employees access higher health care and you know the discussion focused on like any significant change that's to be expected there'll be some challenges in the transition like that but uh you should know that there are steady progress being made and I do want to sing out one person its benefits coordinator Kathy Inger for her hard work and time on this I mean anytime you switch Insurance there are going to be some hiccups and she's been tireless in working with employees in the district to make sure that them and their families are receiving the health care they deserve so um we have our meeting next month I'll provide another update next month thank you um Grant I cannot announce anything right now because we will vote on it Thursday but I think some teachers and individuals will be very pleased um we had some very interesting grants this year was okay thanks um also um Fifi has what's called alumni Nations if you've not heard of it Google it sign up even if you are not a graduate you're a friend of Batavia High School you go to Batavia High School you live in Batavia you might want to be I'm a member of alumni Nations and it um kind of keeps up with what's going on in the schools you know and it's a way to keep track if you've graduated mostly but they have done something unique for February and it's called Bulldog sweethearts so if you met here in Batavia at the schools they've asked you to submit your stories and they have some very interesting stories and I know Lisa's pulled up a couple and do you have like a name like can we throw out a name of a couple um obviously it's okay to say their name they're on the website there right well Matt and Laurie home of course our mayor and his wife yeah so I don't know if they would I don't know if they wrote up a story so but interesting stories of people that have met like junior high high school and have gone on to become married and still live in Batavia or you know gone off but still are you know associated with them so get a chance to look that up and scholarships if you are a graduating senior graduates can apply for scholarships through beefy talk to your counselors they have all the information and also I'm sad to say the music teachers left but there is a scholarship out there it's the second year it's available if you are in fifth grade through about say sophomore year there is a scholarship out there for a guitar and guitar lessons if you have any interest in that go to bataviafoundation.org look under scholarships and you could get the free guitar lessons interesting um I will not do an update on CAC because they are part of one of our reports later and we'll get an in-depth update of what they're doing Craig I'm gonna have some exciting stuff to talk about next month we have a meeting tomorrow okay uh sure the stipend committee met and um nothing really to announce there's a lot of things that might be happening there's a lot of activity requests we just passed the deadline uh for the high school at least for for new activities um and uh groups but we did discuss that there's been a lot a lot of requests for for groups and clubs over the past year and we're looking to kind of reorganize a little bit get a little bit more structured towards those requests so that ones that may have been denied in the past could resurface if you know if they come back up because if if we have funding available we don't want to just go with whoever is like right who just requested the club last week if someone had requested something a year ago and it might be a student who is still in school that wants to do it so we're trying to get on top of that a little bit more to make it a little bit more I don't know if there's the right way to say it but you know first and first also to speak so that the clubs are getting recognized in the order of which they're requested uh so we're gonna I don't know was it a four hour meeting we said we might have for that two hours well we have a board meeting that night oh good I'm happy that maybe we'll have two two-hour meetings inside um but yeah there's so I'm I'm happy that the stipend committee is looking good they're they're definitely really really being thoughtful and considerate about where the funds are going to go so okay thanks RJ Aaron Equity team met this month and the team members shared their professional learning over the prior month related to standards of students pertaining to equity staff instruction and parents and community and the team broke into small groups to begin their planning around staff students and the families and community that they serve and they began to set goals and indicators that they'll be watching out for that's all for me so they'd be providing an update to us next month I they did their update in this December they might um I thought I saw something yeah yeah they if they have their plan ready they're going to present it in March if not that was like a a stretch goal for them okay if they're ready to present sorry okay yeah they did it was in there that's their spectacle awesome all right that's it for committee updates the next item on our agenda is our consent agenda which allows us to approve a number of routine business items all of which are uh detailed in the board book and we're going to ask Mr Pierce to take us through that consent agenda that's right here we go uh 4.1 and 4.2 are the approval of the January 24th 2023 meeting and closed session minutes 4.3 is our monthly Personnel report 4.4 is our monthly payroll bills uh 4.5 is the destruction of our closed session recordings from August 24th 2021 4.6 is the review of our closed session minutes 4.7 is the approval to renew student photography contract 4.8 is the disposal of some Surplus property and finally 4.9 is the approval of the consent agenda all right are there any items to be removed or for clarification tonight all right then I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented second uh move by mightsler second by Meadows all in favor aye any opposed all right consent agenda is passed is approved as presented next item on our agenda is reports I'll hand that over to Dr Hitchens great we have five reports tonight none of them require action the first two are for information they're there every month do you have any questions about those two reports that you see every month no and then the next one is collaborative groups um I'm probably just going to turn over to Brad if that's okay with you Kathy yes this is a part of an ongoing effort to make sure that the community is aware of our collaborative groups that function behind the scenes to really support almost every aspect of the district in this month we're highlighting two of our groups one is our curriculum and assessment advisory Council and they really oversee a lot of the work around curriculum in the update their focus for this year is around Salt teams which are subject area leadership teams and specifically we have teams working in English math and social studies and those teams are going through a process of really doing a program review so that when we do have both of our curriculum work in the summer in June 5th 6th and 7th we do both of our curriculum work so that we have time to process that over the summer and then have it ready for teachers they will know exactly like what work needs to be done to support our teachers and our staff to get the best outcomes for our students so that is really the bulk of the work for cat this year is to make sure that those teams are functional and that they are working towards really directing the work of those three subject areas during the pandemic a lot of our collaborative groups were not working and I can say that this one really hurt us to not have this ongoing during that time there was probably no way to do that but really the The Break um hurt us with the act so Jen Hicks leads that team and she's really tried to to work with that team to be collaborative to model collaboration but also to get more people involved in that process so they revamped our our subject area leadership team kind of structure brought in more people and they've had several meetings they've presented to CAC and then they'll have a couple more meetings to finish up their program reviews and direct some of the work for the summer and the next one is rack and I won't speak to that because the guy who runs the team is right next to me so Tony what do you want to say about rack oh geez well um rack stands for the resource responsibility advisory Council and uh it looks at resources how we use them and keeps an eye on our budget and how things fit together to so that we can do our very best to support our students and staff uh every year the board sees work for that comes from Iraq in the form of the enrollment report in the form of the five-year Financial forecast and then some behind the scenes aspects itself and that has been the case for probably maybe six years or so but when the council was actually formed uh part of it was to look at the purpose was to look at how we can get better at the things that we do and one of the it's called academic return on investment and so that is a a new goal that we have as a group that we're going to look at these academic Returns on investment and try to figure out what works well particularly if it works well for a certain subset of students and then make sure that we can expand that and have the resources to do that actually would you if you wouldn't mind Holly would you click on the rack plan there it does a much better job of explaining it than I just did be great I was following along I'm pretty was you I'm well thanks I appreciate the encouragement RJ um if you scroll down a little bit Holly there's a graph that kind of illustrates what we're talking about keep going all the way almost to the bottom of the page maybe it's the second page there it is that's what I'm thinking we have a lot of things that go on in the district and one of the things that we'd like to do to undertake this initiative is actually an inventory of initiatives to figure out how all the pieces fit together in our programs just to have a high level understanding and of course the purpose isn't to go and audit all these because that would be well you would need to have an army of people to do that it would be a massive undertaking what we'd like to do is pick one pick one single initiative and do a deep dive on it and see one how much it costs both its direct and indirect costs and see how it affects students and whether or not it's doing what that the purpose of what that initiative or program purports it attempts to do and when we learn about that if you scroll down a little bit more Holly you know in the old days we would just cut a program that we thought didn't work but that's not what we want to do is generally cutting programs doesn't work very well so it's either the keep or eliminate mindset and using strategies from the district Management Group there's a whole list of things that we could consider we could expand the program we could keep it we could segment it fix it replace it or eliminate it odds are we're probably not going to do much of eliminating programs because there's a reason why these programs are here but if you do a deep dive and you really think about what this these initiatives and programs attempt to undertake oftentimes you know one size does not fit all as we know very well and yet we have a lot of programs that try to do that and so we're trying to look at in particular at how these segments might fix fit together and make sure that we're meeting needs of all students as best we can with the resources that we have and so it's a new look it's quite an undertaking it's something that we're really excited about we think it will be very valuable for the organization and will hopefully build better capacity for us to make decisions about how we allocate resource and what works and what works for this particular group of kids and what works better for this one and those kind of lines of thinking and we think it'll be helpful so that's what we're working on next and an interior how will you decide which initiative to do the Deep dive on that part we're not really quite sure we're going to do this inventory of initiatives and we're hoping that um based on the number of students that it serves and the amount of money that something will percolate up to the top we don't want something that's so difficult to tackle that it will be impossible to analyze but we also don't want to make it too trivial so that does is not meaningful and so we're trying to strike that balance and so once we have that inventory and we have the kind of the parameters with which it touches the organization we'll make that decision but we're just going to pick one and what time frame are you thinking so we're going to pick one ideally Josh geez that's a good question I don't remember the answer to it offer in the whole organization and pick one so like not only look at but also build that process and then Theory once we've completed that process we would have insights for the following budget year so fiscal 25 is what getting interesting absolutely so it's definitely a longer Arc than what we're used to two can you give me an example of a program that you're talking about and I know this are we talking about a particular curriculum are we talking about how we buy our paper I mean I don't know I just need something to wrap my head around like what are we looking at we're looking at things that would have an academic impact not necessarily how things operate because it could be a lot of things it could be so that's what I'm just trying to think yep and so um let's see I know you're reluctant to say something because I think that let's put it out there but I I just so we were looking for things that are on the academic side and so this is about the ACT you know if we can tie what investments and programs um I can tell just about anything to that it's not just anything so we want to be specific about the academic return on investment so to get an academic return on investment we have to be able to see how kids are learning better as a result of this initiative and what we're investing in it and so it could be things like our intervention programs that's actually what I was just especially that's where you know I mean but those are also very tricky to measure too and to see you know was this implemented with Fidelity and so we can it's the easy task is coming up with a list of all the interventions that we undertake the hard part is how how it fits in with a broader organization and how you would actually measure it that's this part that gets really tricky and it can get really subjective we want to keep this as so I don't have a good answer for you but that's an example of the hierarchy I can start thinking I have some interesting ideas I like that idea though because I mean just the interaction interventions because we were talking about over identifying and I mean it fits in already to goals that we have to use that one but it's there's a lot and there's a lot to choose from yeah other questions or comments other than Craig's comment that you finally made rack interesting after I shook me to somewhere else hey that was yeah I thought it was always interesting because I'm just kidding uh next item on our agenda is a referendum update if you just keep this in in part of the public conversation and Beach parent and be good communicators with the public so uh we have the the challenges we have so much information that people we're saying we couldn't find it on your website so we're always looking at a way that makes it manageable for the user and we do know as you as we reported in the past very few people actually visit our website but we want to make sure when we they do visit it it is easy for them to find the information that they need and so um it's we always are updating our website and our referendum materials based on what people are requesting so um the every school has an information group that they're trying to make sure their own staff members within their own School understand the referendum and so they'll ask us for specific things can you give us can you help us explain people are still talking about Turf can you help us explain how turf was paid for because there is some information out there that may or may not be correct so we are creating um information sheets or I don't want to call them FAQs because they're more than that they go a little bit deeper they're topics that we do deep Dives on so there is on this newly updated website at the very top you would see um why it matters and that is the tagline on many of the posters that you're going to see as we set up our we try to inform the public and we set up information booths anywhere and you'll see under why it matters we're not just here to say vote yes we're here to say here's reasons that you might want to vote Yes but here's also reasons legitimate reasons to vote no and so um we want to be transparent about those types of things so what happens if it doesn't pass but no you'll see that we're going to that impacts if it's unsuccessful is right on that page because I know some of you have said people have asked you that question what happens if it doesn't pass so it should be easy to find it's in the why it matters section and then every school has what it means for them so you could just click on your school to figure out what your school's condition is when it was built all that fun information concerns with the current facilities and then anticipated projects depending on we've talked about before the different constraints that we have with the um the interest rates and the construction costs so we can't promise exactly all of those needs would be met but we that's our starting point anyway and as a reminder the referendum we have about we've identified at one point we identified over 300 million dollars worth of projects and this referendum cannot address every need that we have but it would clear the deck of a hundred and about 150 million dollars worth of those projects and then we do have a very highly functional capital projects group that reviews our needs annually and they have a budget so we can just keep tackling those routine maintenance and other improvements as they come along because this isn't one and done we'll continue every year to improve our facilities and then at the bottom are those different topics that people have been asking about so if you have somebody who said we already voted no to the turf but you built it anyway there's our historical information about how the high school Turf came to be and how we um split the funding with our boosters and ironically I've been reading a lot of board books since like the 50s trying to put together some information about for example the historical referendum that's like bottom left there and we just have a history of boosters donating and other groups donating like the lights and the stadium that just got replaced were used and donated back in the day and so you can find that by looking at the old minutes but this is um somebody had asked us to talk about all the different referenda throughout the years um specifically this doesn't include operating rate referendum um questions because that is that we're not asking for the at this referendum for a change to our operating rate where if to pay our bills but we are asking these are all referenda specifically to improve or build new and so you can see all the history of the voters um in 1975 there was a referendum that failed and back in 1975 you were able to put it back on um they put it right back on the ballot again in 1975 they added 1.1 million dollars to it because they decided to build the new Louise White um and then it passed um and you can see all the different editions and new schools and the history of voting in Batavia um are there Tony you uh came across some FAQs I don't know um there was a list so for example people are asking there seems to be some misinformation about if this fails then we're going to decommission two of our schools is that true or false Tony it's false okay we will if the referendum passes we would actually decommission two schools but we would rebuild them first before we decommissioned them and that is a question we get a lot is well you're going to tear down these schools and then rebuild them what are you going to do with the students well that's part of the plan is that we would build the new schools first and then move them over to the new schooling decommission the old we also have questions about what happens if it doesn't pass and that is actually answered in on this website so if you go up to the top Holly and you click on why it matters it talks about reasons to vote for reasons to vote against and what happens if it's unsuccessful we have a a lot of things that we need to do to properly take care of our schools and our Master facilities plan this referendum would fund a significant portion of that um and um and if and if it doesn't pass then we're going to have to completely rethink what we want to do with our schools we'll have to go back to kind of the drawing board when it comes to our Master facilities plan because the money just won't be there to do hardly any of what what we've identified as being needing to need what needs to be done we also had some questions about how we can trust whether or not you know we're going to stay up with the maintenance of the schools that's a concern we hear a lot well and it's kind of along the lines that you know um why did you let it get this bad uh and as you see in that referenda sheet that Holly was displaying earlier and that Lisa was talking about this is the longest period since 1954 that Batavia Community has gone without passing a referendum that's how we take care of our schools and the bigger projects our our school budget is not built or equipped to deal with the vat the magnitude regular basis that's the purpose of the referendum we have to ask the community whether or not they want to pay for it basically what they expect and what they're willing to pay for so this is the process it isn't that we didn't properly maintain our schools we've had some challenges in maintaining our schools certainly because of the Great Recession primarily and some of the other fiscal challenges that we've faced in the intervening years but like I said investing heavily into our schools and the longest period we've gone without asking since 1954.
to wrap this one up tonight Pirates Victorious good hard fought County win [Music] this is our last GTV production correct Yep this is this is it for the year when we come back next time we'll hopefully have a new facility looking same poor commentating but same facility yep so yeah absolutely thanks for uh tuning in and uh we'll see you next time
yes sir going to be tremendously clear here as the years move on we are we are seeing the total base grow and that's due to I mean just the number of these increases and so that means that as we are projecting decline enrollment we are still seeing our Revenue go up not go down correct because uh for two factors one the cola so that will continue to grow and right now this is based off of first in our projections we were projecting Ada to maintain 95 so a second interim when we're one product Nicola will still have the increase but we will show not a constant increase because we're projecting our Ada it'll be 90 flat until we have a change in our attendance Natasha I have a question yes ma'am what happens or at what point do you adjust these numbers let's say we don't you know what I'm saying so at what point does those numbers get adjusted yes that's a great question um we uh just our numbers at both of our um interim reports so our first interim um if we receive any changes from the state um we um reflect it there um and then after the January update we present to the Board of Education in March the second interim and that's when we utilize these factors to show what our new net effect will be you you're so welcome Mr Jamal I have a question while we're still on slide 18.
we also have questions about um more details in terms of photos and you know they want to know what the conditions are in the school and so we are working with our individual committees in the schools to give access we're also I know Holly and Brad have been working on producing videos and pictures and whatnot of what the conditions are and you'll see those soon on this website that we've just unveiled and we've also had some other random questions that I won't go into but you know what we do want to make sure of is that anybody who has a question has an opportunity to ask it and get the answer not some mythical answer that might be circulating in the community uh that you know people speculate upon but we want to have them make an informed decision and I and that I believe I won't speak for the board but I believe that's why the board placed this question back on the ballot because there was considerable evidence to demonstrate that there was fundamental misunderstanding and misconceptions about what we were asking for what we're going to do in the reason form decision based on facts and not on facts anything else questions thoughts I'll uh just thank you for that website looks amazing I um there's been quite a few things that I there are times that I've been able to point people to the website for information already since you just put up the impact by school so um it seems pretty it seems to definitely be addressing the most common questions that I've heard so thank you very much for doing this that's right yeah I'm gonna back that up the the old way it was kind of organized you would quickly fall into a rabbit hole of more information than you need yeah and you wouldn't be able to find what you wanted this is a pretty good just high level get an understanding of what's going on get an understanding of the intents at every school without getting every report that had ever been written on the process so and reading everyone before you got your answer again right right so I think this is a good kind of balance between the two right now and I appreciate hearing that there's more to come on it and I appreciate the efforts to be able to continually kind of improve the level of Performing that's going on okay thanks Tony um I'm gonna pass it over to Steve for a licensed staff recruiting update yeah uh let me start with um we have had the opportunity uh to meet with our high school administration our Middle School administration and we met with our first Elementary principal this morning we'll be meeting with the rest of them this week to talk about a staffing plan thoughts and considerations and numbers for next school so it's kind of it's that time of the year the reality is um is that we're not going to have it's highly likely at this point we're not going to have a ton of openings probably the most openings we'll have will be at our high school level and then spread across our district special ed teachers student service teachers and probably El supports so those and that's probably what most high school or excuse me what most school districts in the state of Illinois would say um the reality also is is that in the last um three or four months we've had uh three we've had to make three mid-year hires for our licensed staff and I'm really pleased to announce that we had a decent candidate pool and I believe we found three fantastic people um one or two of them were right before winter break and one was right after one fantastic people that will serve our our schools well for this year and and hopefully Beyond and in doing so um we actually uh with two of the three staff members we found great candidates but we also Diversified our Workforce which I know is a priority um so you can read on this report it's a very brief report I'll fill in some of the blanks but the goal I just want to note that that goal was written without the assistance of chat GPT um I'm not sure it's the greatest sentence I've ever seen in my life but it did not get any artificial intelligence so you can read the five strategy points that I wrote down I kind of want to fill in the blanks um a little bit um you know first of all in the past we've generally posted I I would still contend we would we posted our positions about as early as anybody and we're all we've always tried to be ahead um of uh surrounding districts in terms of our posting um but we've typically waited except for maybe a few known um difficult positions to hire we've pretty much waited until after our March board meeting to post most of our positions we're not going to do that this year we're going to post anticipated positions as you can see by this Friday at some point because on Monday a couple of us will be heading out to Northern Illinois for our first job fair um you'll note the second point in the strategy is that we're bringing a team to the job fairs I will be attending which typically when I've done job fairs It's Been Me by myself um I'm bringing uh Ming Shelby with me and then Brad vertine will be supporting us in a few of those because he is Works in our special ed department and you know I can talk General about special ed where he can talk a lot deeper about that um in the past you go to a job fair you I enjoy them because uh I'm a people person and you connect with people and it's exciting and fun and you kind of get to hear their hopes and dreams but then really what happens is it really becomes up to the candidate to go and apply and so we're kind of flipping that with the help of Holly and my awesome HR team Michelle Fraga and Becca Horan they've kind of devised a little a little marketing boards that have QR codes on them and so um when I when we finish conversations with people we're going to direct them right to a QR code that they can pop on their phone and a very very simple data collection of your name your email your phone number and what positions you're interested in that will get shot to a spreadsheet Michelle and Becca will be ready to go and literally within an hour or two of them getting that information they will send an email out to any potential candidates telling them about our school district and giving them links and information about how to apply for the positions that are posted again typically it wouldn't work that way I would meet them I might jot a few notes down um informally and then you kind of cross your fingers and hope that they end up applying and when you're you know dependent on some of these job fairs the I asked a virtual job fair for instance I'm literally I literally last year and probably about two or three hours time I probably interacted with 90 people um because I was literally going back and forth on chat screens I'm just chatting chatting chatting and um so overall we're excited because uh it's going to be a lot more purposeful we will have their information and we will have positions posted and we will have our our principals ready to hire as soon as we are able so we're excited about this approach you can see what we have coming up uh Northern Illinois State I asked by North Central um I've spoken to my colleagues in King County um who have had to go out and recruit a lot more than we've had to in Batavia just because of um I think our tradition and the view of our school systems and these were some of the top ones that they all recommended I attend I've been to a few of those in the past um so we're excited and to see how this will play out um a couple of things I want to finish up with is that you know Finding support staff is still probably our number one challenge this is really about licensed staff members um that will remain a challenge it's a challenge not only Statewide but Nationwide we've had probably between 15 to maybe 17 pair of Pros that have not been filled this entire school year which is absolutely unheard of for our school system when you do comparative data with our surrounding colleagues they're usually at the same level of missing pairs as we are or even worse um so we're gonna we have some ideas and some approaches we're going to try and be trying um over the course of the next few months that will really set us up hopefully for next year and so it'll intensify later in the summer as people get a little bit more serious about those positions I'm very appreciative to uh like I said earlier Becca Moran Michelle Fraga and Kathy anger because they're putting together some things that will be on our website that will be very very detailed information about our benefits um because that does matter to people um one small anecdote I had the opportunity to speak with a candidate a potential candidate for a support staff position as well as that potential candidate's spouse for an extended period of time this all happened literally in the last few days this person was offered a position in a surrounding District that paid them 11 dollars per hour more and they accepted the position in our school system because of the community because of the school they're going to because of the hours and because of our benefits and so our insurance committee um I I know that they've made some adjustments that have not been easy trust me my wife has had some challenges with some of the things I mean Kathy has handled that very very well along with Luke moo but the benefits in the HSA and some of those things that we have for people for some people that's a huge driver uh sometimes even more important than the all my Almighty dollar for them so um that's one anecdote I know for other people um the dollars maybe more and I understand that but um so we're going to continue to try to um with our uh support staff to try to really um capitalize on some of the great things that we offer to hopefully attract more of them so that's my report um I like the fact Steve that used that hair last year and said these are the proactive things we're going to do and um that's all in your plan so that's awesome thank you yeah I'd like to say that was a big plan discussion for one meeting we had and I like that now our sounds like we're being much more aggressive like you see someone that looks like a promising candidate we're not just reacting like let's go out there and let them know that Batavia is a good place to be so we want them to apply and learn more all right next um section of our agenda is our action items the first one is our firewall refresh so we're going to invite Dave Thirlby to talk to us about that good evening I'm trying to get all my notes ready here sorry guys all right so I am on a five-year plan with this current firewall system we use uh so I am due to replace it this year um due to all our lovely supplies shortages and whatnot I'm kind of coming a little early for this it's actually up in May but we need to get it started now to actually receive in end of May to take care of things it is a pretty large number this is actually broken out over five years so on ballpark we're like 85 86k a year on this project as a firewall this is the top device on any network so this is the brain that protects everyone behind it meaning your laptops Chromebooks phones everything like that that's what we're using to protect you guys um it's a not a small number due to the dynamic updates and trying to keep up with AI we're mentioning some stuff earlier other things that are attacking on a minute by minute basis that system handles all those types of attacks again it's a five-year process here so this is covering for the next five years at the next end of life so it's kind of a cycle at that point so you guys have any questions or I guess I have a question Dave so I appreciate you I know I always ask you a lot of questions because I'm not very tech savvy sure but I mean could you just kind of explain what a firewall is and how it protects the district's information but also for our children is protecting them from things parents don't want them okay I'm going to be try to be very broad here I've ran one for close to 20 years myself at the technical level so if I get crazy tell me um I I just made some quick notes so a firewall as a general consensus here it's a tool that my team uses it's a device it's a piece of gear that we run similar to what you guys have at home like a home router it's what transitions us from our internal stuff to the Internet it's kind of a gatekeeper for the entire District letting good things in or out and blocking the bad completely out it's essentially what protects everyone it also is based on base like kind of a set of rules that we configure on our end that is helping adjust things like when we get a request to unblock a website or hey I want to use this thing can I use it type of thing we go through a vetting process as well with a committee here that we vet something and if we can allow it we do and then we plug it into that and it can get in I take privacy very seriously so we're trying to make sure nothing gets out as well so Social Security numbers things like that it's also protecting for things like that um you see a lot of stuff from the news for data leaks and things like that those are the devices that help prevent it's never 100 but we do our best in this case The Five-Year purchase of that it's also dynamically updating things for that so when you find a random file that's out there and it's got a certain name it will know that name and say hey that's bad in 30 other companies block it so it's a very Dynamic approach compared to you know a guy in a chair or sitting there coding stuff all day blocking so as far as the students we have a lot of features I guess you could call it on this device one of them I'll mention is content filtering blocking inappropriate websites bad things that kids could get to we also can tie that into an application layer which means like chat game Facebook Messenger other inappropriate things this device handles all of that so it can allow or deny based on certain grade levels if we wanted to or whatever else time of day things so if you need to allow something for like a guest that comes in like we have the robot crew over at the middle school here week or two ago we had to allow some stuff for them to get to their robots so we did that on a time-based schedule so I can allow something for a specific couple hours things like that and then all of this comes down to monitoring and Reporting so we can help these kids if they get caught into something or if there's some other issues there that we need to kind of steer them away from we use a lot of different systems to do this the firewall is one piece of the full Suite that we use there's a lot of different tools we use to help the kids this is just kind of a small piece of it so is that a good enough that is yeah you couldn't explain it to me you can't explain to anybody probably so that's good so and then my only other question I was seeing any kind of expense especially this large is this was anticipated and this is a thin budget yep we try to do everything I've been trying to move everything to a cycle and honestly with this project it was insane with the market right now we went from right now I was saying like 85 86k a year with a five year if I went one year it was 145 000 so that's why we're doing a five year that's Tech that's the world right now I'm trying to do as best I can with it but that was the only way we could save and get everything we need thank you very much sure again sorry if this is a little behind the times but with The Five-Year Plan and understanding what an important piece of equipment this is and how quickly our world is changing do we think that this piece of equipment is going to last five years is going to be good enough during that period of time for to meet our needs yep the way this system works uh they over build it on purpose because it's dynamically changing every day practically every 30 seconds roughly it's built and another thing I forgot to mention too is there are actually two of these for the district so as important as the internet is if one of these breaks we flip it to the other one so part of this is handling the demand of all of our devices we have you know five thousand plus kids all the staff all the guests that come in parents you name it on an average we probably see close to 12 to 15 000 people on our Network every day and this this handles all that and then some on purpose so but the biggest thing is the dynamic updating that's the way you stay ahead a lot of this stuff the world's definitely different than it was five years ago too any other questions no right then I would entertain a motion to approve the purchase of two firewalls from Continental resources in the total amount of 429 111 dollars moved by Meadows second by lock all in favor aye aye any opposed all right thanks guys thanks Dave thank you dude uh next item on our agenda is uh the approval of the contract Amendment with Quest and I'm going to hand that over to Josh bulac all right so what we have here is a request from Quest Food Service um to increase our meal rates on lunch and also breakfast on all our schools in the National lunch program so that's our elementary schools and our middle school so we'd be looking at a 12.8 percent increase there on lunch and an 8.5 I think that says five six the eyes ain't so good um on breakfast this doesn't impact students at all I want to make that very clear so what this is dealing with is our reimbursement rate so basically what we pay the company to provide the food and then we get a reimbursement from the state on that and you can see here um you know CPI on all things is different but on school lunch programs in particular there's been a 301 percent increase year to year January in January just like we experienced with eggs at the grocery store so our partner is asking for this increase to ensure that they can continue to provide the high quality food for our students just as a matter of perspective I think in the Wall Street Journal analysis the cost of elementary school lunches is the leading increase in terms of inflation out of every other thing that they measure so that is what increased the most over the last year if if my recollection serves other questions I might need this be simplified for me I'm not following we need to we need to raise our return rate it's a application with the what's the stage so the state gives us a meal immersement rate okay and then we contracted with Quest a different rate so the state gives us this much uh we pay Quest this much so they're looking for us to do this so apologize if this is redundant no it's okay how how what happens next year and the year after yeah so this year we're done with our contract with Quest okay um Rack in November authorized us to go to a non-competitive one-year agreement with Quest so we would renegotiate rates with them for one more year at that point we'd have to either go to a bid process or a request for a proposal where we would reach out to other providers so but for the the fall our rates would be the same we have to renegotiate okay so this is just an emergency from now until the end of the year so it's probably safe to say that what's the estimated cost for next year no no just for the rest of this year yeah I'm just wondering like does this mean it's gonna um give me one second oh like total impact right because if we're going to be yeah it's not going to affect students I know that right what do we out of pocket nothing our budget that's actually where I would like to get i'll let Josh answer his question then I'll ask sure questions essentially we're getting the discounted price from Quest but the discount that Quest is giving us is going to lower yeah so if we extrapolate this over the rest of the year it's a sixteen thousand dollar shift but so to your question uh rjs it is a budgetary item but we're getting reimbursement so it's not really like from the state correct on this program stayed in the feds yeah correct so it's not is kind of complicated so we budgeted based on this amount that we're getting paid we're paying them this much let me get reimbursed this so actually my understandings before we had a little bit of a surplus as we do and the Surplus is designed to um administrative coverage administrative costs and taking care of the cafeteria and the equipment that's in it and so we'll have less to take care of the other aspects of operating Food Service you know what we pay Quest is simply for actually providing the food but we have to provide the kitchens and the tables and the trays and you know all those sort of dishwashers everything so that's where it impacts our budget yeah mm-hmm right but if we don't do this would we be at Jeopardy of them saying we can't do business with Batavia anymore um right now we're in a they would have to they're obligated by to us under contract through the end of this year but next year they could say no thank you because that we're doing in one year extension because this in the state is allowing that right now because of the impacts of the pandemic and I'm sorry that I'm doing it no that's okay I talked through in your report you can talk during mine that's fine and just some historical perspective this is the second time of this ask in in four years right at the beginning of the pandemic the same thing happened them coming to us asking for an increase so the children need to have lunch children learn best when they're fed and not hungry this is not a nice to have this is a need to have but I also want to articulate that this is the second thing that we've been asked although this is unprecedented times in both cases sure I think it's also important to look at like districts in the surrounding area so Tony and I went and asked 10 different school districts the local area what's your meal reimbursement rate and even with this increase we are still the lowest in the area so you know a lot of time was put into making sure that one more being good partners but also that we're being responsible for our students and how long have we been um I'm gonna have to defer to Tony on now so this is we're finishing our second five-year con it's got to be and they've been a very good to us excellent to work with they're one of my favorite companies to work with this is not an issue that's limited just to this I mean right I think the the statistic I think that you see here the 301 percent that being I am seeing things where we've got things that are under contract specific costs that are set in a in contractors or others are going I'm walking if you don't pay me yeah we just can't afford you can rebid it but you're gonna pay it anyway okay so you might as well stay with a partner you have it's it's a terrible position to be in but I appreciate the fact that through foresight or happenstance buffer is kind of there but I do appreciate understanding that it does eat away at saved money to do the bigger costs later like fantastic a new kitchen or new equipment or whatever else any other questions right then I would entertain a motion that we approve an emergency contract Amendment for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year in regard to the meal reimbursement rates delineated below so I moved moved my mitesler second by kilburg all in favor any opposed all right next item is a um a dual Josh and David uh topic so I'm going to throw it to whoever's going to talk I'm up here so I'll just I'll just keep the mic if you don't mind all right so um that's like Dave was talking about with the firewall there's certain expenses that occur on a recurring basis so this is one of those so our copy printers um usually are replaced every five years we got six years out of the ones that we currently have but it is time to get new models um so the ask is that the board authorized the approval to purchase these new copy scanners um and again the goal is to keep them for five years but we'll own them so then we can make that decision based on usage if we can make them last longer we monitor them through a service called Papercut so we can see how they're being used and then make that determination in the future and since I'm already talking to your board reports yeah just just go first let's throw one more thing in there the tricky thing about of copy machines is that when they break down they can be very problematic in a school and as they age these are mechanical devices that push paper through them very fast and as they age they kind of wear out and they start to break down more and two things happen one the maintenance contract that we pay on those machines gets much more expensive and so because the maintenance guy is coming out more often and two The copier is down more often and teachers started pulling their hair out so it's not a good idea to make copiers last longer than they ought to when it comes to these sorts doesn't lead to good things we may have tried that and it does that yeah you know sometimes it makes sense and sometimes it doesn't that's right so how many printers do we currently have so we're just replacing every single printer well we actually have 48.
yes ma'am for transportation um can you describe a little bit about what this um Revenue stream supports specifically yes um so the um last three pillars are just um add-ons that the governor gives us when they took away all of the categorical funds before lcff was enacted and basically what they did is whatever your District was receiving back in 2013 they just give you that amount flat we currently currently use the 795 thousand dollars um to cover all of our school to school transportation um we cover it for our fuel for our buses as well as our bus drivers and with that are we um exploring the possibility of electrifying our Fleet yeah so we um we've applied for a couple of Grants um right now is based on if you have diesel um buses and right now we only had one in our Fleet so we're waiting to see if we can at least get approved for that one and then we're going to continue to work with our grant writer to continue to apply for more Fleet and so I heard you say that one of our buses is diesel or the rest uh CNG or a different fuel just a different fuel thank you yes ma'am what along those lines um looking at the new buses that are um what is it a electric yes um the district was speaking with um actually with eyd on that where is that conversation there be byd that the company selects as as um Natasha has referred to we have been pretty aggressive in learning and looking uh for Grants um most of the grants are looking at districts that are um for lack of a better word worth in a worse state that we are because their their Fleet is closer to being all Diesel and so they're starting they're starting with those seem to be the districts that get funded first um and so but we are continuously keeping our eye out we have our grant Rider continues to be keeping her eye out as well uh to make sure that we don't pass up on an opportunity uh for those particular grants isn't the deadline 2030 but I also want to add um one thing where by working with the grant writer we've we have um allowed ourselves not to be like some of our other districts who receive either the grant just for the infrastructure and put up the um the charging station only to find out that the buses that they were going to purchase would not work on those so we're trying to be strategic and being Mindful and prudent on the um how we go about just what what I haven't heard of byd it's a is that that's a company that we work with or what is it that that is a company that actually has the fleet of electric buses um and they came to our district a few years ago um and made a presentation and presented to to the school I'm sorry the superintendent and um the assistant superintendent I think it's before um amen I think they met with um Brian yes yes they met with Brian all right and so this was our Lottery funds there's no projected increase on but this is based off annual Ada mandated block grant um is one of the resources that is going to receive the cola so we will see a increase from going from 34.94 for grades um k through eight right now TK is not included um with the projection increase from 67.31 to 77 for our grades 9 through 12.
um we're keeping two the one at the maintenance shop is not used at all it's made approximately 11 000 copies in six years that's nothing so we own it so we have the opportunity to keep it and we're keeping the same company so they're keeping the same and then there is one other one at Rotolo which is for the Project Lead the Way classroom I don't remember the exact number on that one because I was giving Mark a hard time about the 11 000 copies but that one also is so lightly used that we're keeping that one you all considered a rotation program or keeping the ones that we have or do we get money back for turning in these 46.
a mandated block grant is um the state's way of giving us some funding allocation for all the mandates that they put on um but this amount that we receive doesn't even touch the surface of all the mandates they put on our requirements but this is their way um they're still I mean they actually have a budget line of trying to actually true up and fund all the mandates but as of right now we have not seen that Latasha I have a question on the lottery ticket Lottery lottery um allocation what can you give me an idea just a general idea of what I don't know what percentage do we spend on like unrestricted and unrestricted what kind of maybe a little Insight on what the unrestricted most of that money goes spent on instruction all of the lottery funds have to be tied to some sort of instructional whether it's instructional supplies or material the restricted has to be on Structural Materials such as textbooks thank you you're welcome so here we have our calstrs and Calpers Cal stirs is not projected to have an increase so we will not realize uh material change we will still have to contribute 19.10 for all of our employees whereas Calpers we will continue to see an increase in this slide is to show what that projected increase um we currently pay 25.3 um seven percent for um all of our Calpers members and that's based off their annual salary um so we will we're projecting an increase of 74 72 000 and the next year um and going down by 48 but as of our population our employee population increases this will also be a decrease that we will materialize so here we're going to go to our multi-year projection um we're going to start with the um School Services slide typically we do not see what we're seeing in our current year where we're currently seeing that the amount that we're receiving in the cola is able to hand um handle all of our statutories um so you'll see in the current year as well as in the next um 22-24 23 24 fiscal year um with our projected 8.13 Cola we are projected to be able to handle the statutory increases which will be the person's thirds increases but that will slowly change when you go based on the projections for 24.25 with a smaller amount of cola our statutories will continue to go up our special ed costs will go up so it will now go to have the reverse effect of yes we'll receive Nikola but our statutories are going to exceed the amount that we're receiving in the colon and here are as our nyp and we're showing the current year plus four out years and we continue to maintain that we're meeting our reserve requirement um we do show that we are currently deficit spending um but as I shared our deficit spending is a structural deficit um in order to not deficit spend that means the revenue that you received this year is the only Revenue that you're going to spend um we have a lot of our carryover funds particularly our one-time covet funds that we've received two years ago and we had a two to three year spending plan so every time we spend those actual funds it's going to show that we have a deficit because we're spending funds that we received in the previous year and with that I'll open up for any questions other questions by the board I have a question on the I think he talked about in the previous slide on 24.
we do yeah we just approved yeah Me on he used to have like a rotator thing like we used to do just a lease and the company yeah yeah maybe I'm dreaming I thought it was like we've tried different models over there in the tooth if they're fine like these ones that only have so many numbers on them that we could keep using you couldn't do that you'd be buying another 5 000 copier at that point but we do rotate them when they make sense I know we do you know some machines that are not being used as often will put into a place that is in yeah so that we can get more life out of that yeah any other questions I I have my question they always ask so this was an anticipated expense and this is within budget yes that is correct the broken record down here is this the same company that you've used this is the same company so you that's a mate so after six different proposals still this one was the best significantly yeah okay that's rare in this market right now thank you anything else all right then I'm going to entertain a motion to approve the purchase of 46 not 48.46 Kanika Minolta multi-function print devices for the total amount of 527 from Konica Minolta move by Meister second by lock Alan baber any opposed right now I'm assuming the service agreement that you're asking us about is connected to this question yes yes it's unfortunately like when you buy a big purchase like a car you buy the car and then you go into the room and you discuss the the warranty that's what we have here so this is the service agreement uh it's a five-year service agreement and what's great about this is it locks in the service rate for those five years there's no planned escalation in that service agreement it just is sat and they actually match the service agreement that they gave us in the last time frame the reason why there's not a dollar amount on here yeah because it's by uh page per like the copy per page okay so it varies depending on usage so if we use it a lot we pay more for the service that you don't use it we don't pay for the service this covers those two extra ones you were yeah they go to yes because they're pretty oh 48 all five pages all five pages they match their prices okay yeah okay yes all right then I'm gonna entertain a motion to approve a five-year service agreement with Konica Minolta to support our multi-function print devices move by might start a second by Meadows all in favor any opposed all right last item on the agenda is not a Josh and Dave hahaha this is a Rob purchase of office furniture my Topic's a little more fun than copiers I'm here to ask you uh to approve the purchase of office furniture for the new main offices at JB Nelson and Alice Gustafson Elementary School and the reorganization of the ECC office as we split those two apart the total is 69 thousand dollars that basically 14 spaces in the two buildings including the new respite room which we do not have in the existing buildings right now those will be an ad I know I've been asked about reusing and refurbishing existing furniture that we already have that furniture will already be accounted for in especially Alice Gustafson all the main office furniture is staying in the ECC office so everything will need to be new in the new main office and as far as JB Nelson goes we will be repurposing all the furniture there except for the reception desk which will be demolished to make room for the new use of that open Office Space can you explain a little bit about Source well and Cooperative purchasing Source wall is it's already it's a state-run pre-bid service we use this typically with mechanical equipment as well so when we're going and getting prices those have already been bit out and approved through the state so we don't have to worry about individually going out to bid um with different companies we can go through one company who we work with who provides who will provide the furniture and who will install it and that's hard the prices have already been vetted out right and I would entertain a motion to award Lowry McDonald company a contract to provide office furniture at JB Nelson Elementary School and School in the sum of sixty nine thousand dollars okay move by math day second by might slur all in favor any opposed all right thank you those were all of our um action items tonight we do have a closed session on the agenda but there will be no action afterwards so I'm going to turn it over to Administration comments before we move too close to section um 99 of my comments have already been covered through our discussions and our celebrations today but I would like to add one more celebration Cindy and Holly and the rest of the people who helped put together kindergarten meet and greet it was last Thursday night here and 213 families showed up there were 251 that signed up but the weather took a turn last Thursday so I think it kept a couple people out so that's a really large number it's not our entire Kindergarten class it's just those that got our messages and signed up to come and meet their principals and turn in all their registration documents so they registered uh collected Cindy and her team collected 230 13 registration packets from families so amazing they process processed it all that night nice job and Holly did all the communicating and collecting of the names so lots of assistance from others in the district as well so that's it for me all right thanks Erin we'll start with you Aaron meitzer um everyone just stay safe with the upcoming weather come in and um make it to school on time and safe tomorrow I know uh we had some twisting of the arm but it looks like we'll be there so [Laughter] RJ um I'm really proud and excited about all the different awards for the teachers and faculty that was really exciting Lisa is the first person that I've been able to or that I've had my children work with so my oldest daughter is doing violin and she signed up for violin for uh sixth grade so she's loving it so congrats again to all the teachers and then Lisa I'm looking forward to my children uh you know working with all the other instructors or other other faculty so that'll be exciting I didn't throw this out there during the cycling committee but I why the comment that I was shocked I got the number here there's 130 kids that are on the cross country team for sixth grade which is just amazing to me I guess it's like 12 it's 12 percent of the school I know I brought before at the end of the meeting Steve I was like why do kids love to run so much but apparently the the the coaches and all the yeah the assistants just do a great job with it and I know every time I drive around here you see somebody running so yeah well we'll see if my kids get involved in it but it's nice I you know it's a new little thing to be a little bit proud of here so um that was an interesting tidbit a nugget of knowledge for you um but besides that I've got nothing else to say thank you I'm just gonna say again congratulations relations to all the teachers I'm gonna extend them she's not here maybe she'll hear about it but personal appreciation for Lisa Hatfield again because I I see with both my kids and every other kid that I'm involved with the music they've all just basically started there kind of Grew From that and so it really goes to show what like kind of good foundation does to help build confidence and kind of that reinforcement structures they move along to kind of cap that off um Holly and others put out a kind of note about the Batavia wind Symphony uh performing at what's called iMac which is Illinois music educators Council or something along that lines it's basically an audition thing and we got an opportunity to hear a preview with the five schools three of the five schools that get invited every year to go perform there and Batavia has done it a couple times but it's it's kind of like the Super Bowl for like the win Symphony level that you have to be kind of I would stop laughing at me yeah laughing but um no I mean I just wanted to press put that out there because all the years I know all the years I've seen it and I've heard my oldest one I have no idea that it was such a kind of an honor for them to be able to get selected to go perform solely for a bunch of music educators you know and and be kind of um take advantage of that so I'm going to end with that one but thank you and be safe tomorrow apparently apparently yes um interesting comment for RJ because all three of my children ran cross country and at least one had all four of the Educators that were here tonight probably I think multiple of them so um yeah we offer amazing opportunities in this District that's why I've always loved it I have no other comments usually I wait till last but I wanted to throw my two cents in um I agree that what everybody else has said um although my kids had Miss offelman I believe before she got married so that's how long my kids said music teacher I think um and please take advantage of the updated website and educate yourself on the referendum can I add something to that sure sure real quick I'm sorry I just remembered that we're going to have four members representing it two different functions last night last night tomorrow night um BS or Thursday night I know I'll be at ESPN with me with you surprising me now thanks so uh and then I think we'll also be at Thursdays and boosters as well so if anyone come up and ask us questions come up and talk what I want about it feel free please be there good reminder thanks RJ uh my turn I'll finish it off so yes I want to congratulate all the teachers if we get started every board meeting with a celebration like that it would be great um I also want to say thank you to everybody in the community that emails us it reaches out thank you for everybody who stayed for the bulk of the meeting or to the end I appreciate that so thank you for that um I do want to thank Cindy and Holly and uh Amy Nelson for the kindergarten on the 213 for the meet and greet I was happy to I used to take a lot of home videos I was watching my daughter who's a junior now her first day of kindergarten and you know lots of anxiety lots of tears and that's how we see the parents and so that's really crucial I think that first interaction so thank you for that and then I'll end with something I I just want to thank all of our business partners that support uh BPS 101 I attended a fundraiser from my youngest as a grade school at Pal Joey's and John Hamill's about his big up partner as you could have for BPS 101 um she was here earlier with Karen Cheeseman but she put it together it was a first time event and the response was crazy and basically within like two days they had it over I think 100 or 200 responses John was going to reserve a room and he just said I'll just close the whole restaurant for three hours so you guys can have your event I don't know how many Proprietors would do something like that so um I don't mean to give a plug just for Pal Joey's but all of our partners but those are the types of Partnerships that build community and make Batavia the place it is so I just want to say thank you to those people for that reminder Aaron as I said we do have closed session but no action after so I would entertain a motion to adjourn to closed session for the reason of collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees still moved second moved my mind for a second by lock all in favor bye all right during Too Close session can you unplug me okay please please
talked about not being able to meet our statutory or something like that yes as we progressed right later in later years are they doing anything to address that or no um what they do is what they tell us you know that's why we have a spending plan I mean we're supposed to always work to align our budget based on our actual enrollment in Ada so that way even though with article or with the cola we can still meet our financial obligation thank you you're welcome any further questions or comments by the board no okay thank you Mr mall for this detailed presentation now moving to item 3.3 uh review of potential Azusa High School mascots and logos um Mr orteg I know we had I had a preliminary conversation um if you could share out um the uh the mock-ups on screen um so that we can have a public look altogether and I think for the benefit of those joining us if you could give just a short recap about um The process by which um the new mascot uh was identified and how we got here where we have um three presentations thank you uh yes so uh for the direction of the Board of Education a committee was formed we actually shout out to miss class and Mr lemunion who were on the committee uh in the audience with us today uh that committee uh had a bunch of stakeholders from staff parents members of the indigenous Community students uh alumni um and that was facilitated uh by Dr Wong from APU um and the board gave direction that that committee would make a decision on what the new mascot for Azusa High School would be uh that committee uh decided that the new mascot would be a jaguar they also provided uh some guidelines on what the Jaguar should not represent or should not have um and then we launched a thought exchange to staff students in the community to ask the opposite question what should the new um mascot represent all of that data was provided to NTS Communications which which is the design company um and they provided a draft these are drafts only uh three different drafts uh we call them A B and C of what the low of what the mascot and logos might look like and uh tonight we're looking for direction from the Board of Education uh in terms of uh where do we go from here to actually making a decision uh on these uh mascots and logos thank you Mr Ortega um you know I'm looking at this on the shared screen is there a way to um flip through um the Thriller logo a b and c uh yes uh so what you're seeing on the screen right now is a and a um has three different components and that's true for B and C as well so you'll have the first thing you'll see is a School logo followed by a spirit logo and Then followed by a spirit icon and so every I'm sorry can you repeat that again 100 okay so a is so a is comprised and this is true for B and C as well it's comprised of three different um sets the first one is called the school logo so for example this is something that would be on um maybe some um stationary um maybe on folders maybe on a wall right so that's a School logo each set also has a spirit logo so a spirit logo baby on a banner maybe on a shirt um so that's that's the spirit better and then you have a spirit icon the spirit icon think about maybe a hat um you know maybe a patch those kinds of things uh so each one has these three so what we just saw is a and then we're going to show you B so here's B same thing School logo followed by Spirit logo followed by Spirit icon and then we have C School logo Spirit logo and spirit icon again just want to reiterate that these are just drafts uh first drafts of potentials and so Mr taga I will um I'll just share with with my colleagues my my thought process before before we saw these presentations um knowing that um the original mascot for Azusa High School was voted on by students um and knowing that our school mascot committee was comprised of students parents staff members and alumni um kind of taking all that history and moving forward I feel pretty strongly that the next logo that we adopt as a as a school district should be um you know decided upon by students and when I think of students I think of our current high school students as well as our current eighth graders those that will be joining Azusa High School next year um I'd like to remain fairly agnostic um in in terms of you know design I I think that these first drafts um all you know they each have their different flavor and Flair um you know something that jumps out to me is the incorporation of the blue and the red um which I'm sure is intentional um and part of this process um and I think in short my my strongest opinion in in this process is for um our students our current high school students and our our eighth grade students to um exercise their voice and selecting the final mascot and Logo set and um with that I'd love to open up for discussion with uh my colleagues Mr would you like to go first sure well just a question I have so I'll say um I I appreciate that and that that makes a lot of sense to me uh board president what you what you shared there um I I also notice the um the red here along with the the blue and and probably doesn't take too too much thinking to to imagine where some of the integration comes from can we speak to where in the process that came along and and what what some of the conversation was about including red with uh the typical Aztec blue yes uh in the thought exchange uh this is one of the more resounding uh feedbacks uh that came out of the exchange uh is that um there was a desire to pay some kind of homage if you will uh to Glass on high school and mo I would say the overwhelming majority of that came via adding some red uh to uh to the design difficult because I can't see you um Mr Ortega uh can you confirm that the blue and the red presented here are the current blue and red from the two high schools I can definitely confirm that the blue is uh I'm not 100 sure about the red but I will double check but I can definitely confirm that the blue is the correct blue thank you go ahead Mr Graham sorry to interrupt yeah so the the only thing I think I I would want to communicate is that that it does it does seem um the the way that the two contrast um I I understand the the intention behind it but the way that the two contrast does seem to present somewhat of some clashing um and so I'll just kind of I I wonder as as peop as that thought came out was there an opportunity some sometimes their ideas or their thoughts and then we kind of see it and then after we see it we may we may think differently about it so in the midst of a of a thought exchange were there were there any kind of uh mock-ups that were shared within the thought exchange um to see the two colors together so that uh folks could speak into that uh there there were not um but what I could tell you is that uh in our uh contract with NTS um it is very clear that this is draft one and so I I couldn't imagine that if we wanted to we could get further feedback on what we have right now in terms of feedback likes dislikes you know those kinds of things um and then based on that you know there could be a second round of of drafts based on that feedback that we receive uh and again we would be looking for the direction from the board is that feedback that the board is giving and then we bring a second set and then it goes out to students is that feedback that the students and Community like you know uh either way but 100 we can get feedback on now that we actually have a product yeah and that's maybe the only the only thing that I I would would talk about it again if if um I I so appreciate what board president shared and so if if we share this out and our and and our students in particular are excited about this and have ownership then I want to get behind and I want to you know then then let's go um I wanna I guess be able to call out um and invite um students in particular to look at are there ways where something sound like a good idea in principle but then when it's actually played out um is should there be adjustments or tweaking of certain colors so as to to allow for them to um you know work and and um coordinate with each other or do we want to take or or is this uh you know an intentional thing that we are wanting to do so again I want to be careful I'm probably already saying more than I should here um but but that that's the only thought that I have is um wanting to honor the thinking behind this but leave room for some some back and forth and and exploration board member Ariana's is that we'll come back to you board member writing his Pena yes um so you're saying that we should give the opportunity to the 8th graders is that the great are we going to pick a specific grade or are we I I was suggesting our current 9 10 11 12th graders and our current eighth graders because they will be the first new class coming in as ninth graders to have this new mascot and logo yeah I I think that's a great idea but I I also I do like actually um my opinion how they have the red and the blue mixed together because I feel I know we spoke a lot a lot about fairness on on both schools respecting both schools and maybe that's the idea they had they were trying to do just that other than when what remember girl mentioned I mean we did say we were going to use azusa's colors we didn't say that um but if you mixed it the red and the blue then you get purple or something like that I think it's called um you know then you you're you're mixing both colors um but I still I do like the idea if that is not possible because I know that we did mention we're going to keep the blue in the in the in the black um and that we have the red red behind it um also I I was wondering that when we wrote it the board of education is what I mean on November the 1st and we we spoke about um what was on the mascot and I was just questioning where it says on the third one um home with the Aztecs when the teacher came and read to us what um it was going to look like and I thought I was voting for Q you know she mentioned Azusa High well the committee is proud to announce this is a high school to be home of the Jaguars so myself is voting I'm voting just saying okay yeah well I vote on that you know I'm voting what she's reading this is what she read to us and then she read you know the the characteristics in the rationale she did mention you know we we hope to bring the Jaguar will bring Unity and pride um and I see unity and pride is looking at the both colors together but I go back to the same thing when I voted I'm assuming that okay yeah the home of the the home of the Jaguars and then it's changed so I don't know I don't know where that thinking was or that's just a question I do have a board member uh Rodriguez vice president uh Rodriguez Pena is absolutely correct uh the board did vote um on four different distinct items for Azusa High School and one of them was that they were going to remain the ice Aztecs and one of them was out they were going to change uh their logo uh and their mascot uh this is something that came up during the committee work and something that came up when we were talking to the designers on how to square away the fact that we're the Aztecs but we have the jaguar and ultimately if we were to say Azusa Jaguars or home of the Jaguars then where does the Aztec fit in um so then are we changing the name of the high school like Azusa Aztec High School home of the Jaguars and so that that was a piece of conversation um and because the the board had decided that they would remain the Aztecs uh taking everything into consideration that the logo and the mascot was about um about being culturally appropriate and not not being offensive um this seemed like we thought we were embodying what what the board was intending to do but we could be wrong but yes also how it says um Azusa ask text and then you have a Jaguar I mean is the jaguar the animal of the aspect do we I mean you know it is okay so maybe that's what was behind you I'm just asking the question not thank you board member Benavides I think I would appreciate um I don't know when you recommended the or suggest the idea of going to the students or showing the mark of the committee right I'm thinking that um and then it kind of you know it kind of brought me back to the l cap and where students are you know they're saying their voices aren't being heard and I think that this because it's so you know it it was such a you know I don't know when I wasn't here as a board member then but I I heard of it and I had been watching the the committee um you know it's very they're very passionate about um the logo and so I think it would create an opportunity so that students could be heard and that their voice would be heard and I think there's value in that so I think that um that would be something we should look really better board member Ariana's are you ready for yourself I don't know thanks thank you um I I actually really like the colors the the red and and you know white it's red white and blue that come together that that's what I see I see Unity I see like I said red white and blue represents both schools um I do see the the blue that we are showing our that we're showing um on our screen is a little different than what we're seeing in our computers right now so I would agree that checking back on the original of what you know what a Souza High has right now and the color that Gladstone High that it matches um that as well um I since we are not voting on it I can't say which one I like but I I would agree yes that our students I I eighth grade and let's hear what you say eighth grade and middle school right Middle School eighth graders you said and the high schoolers um I think we should also include the seniors in it you know they were part of this transition as well and leaving some type of Legacy as well so I would include this you know all of high school and um actually I wouldn't I would include all middle schoolers because they're the ones that are going to grab they're the ones right um that have been with on this journey with those who are closing their schools you know the middle schools we're combining it to one school one Middle School one high school I I would like to include all Middle School not just eighth grade um for them to have their voice so when they do graduate from this new high school that they have pride in being part of this new high school as well and um and have that connection um other than that I again I I want to say which one I like but I can't but I I would like to stick with the red and the blue and uh home of the Aztecs is spine um a Jaguar looks great the one that I like but no yes so um yeah I would like to see the students all high school all middle schoolers um and how what is it what does the time frame look like for for this survey to to go out and for us to be able to um get the results um how are they going to uh you know how are they going to uh vote thank you um because I would not like there you know if we're going to have students let's record their student ID they all have an ID number right I mean let's record it with that so that we don't have parents or other community members or other people voting for this that it's truly coming from the students if that's what the board is saying right and that's what I'm hearing with the board is saying tonight is that we want the students is that correct so so can we can we have some tracking on each student so that way only with the student ID they're able to go ahead and vote one time so is that something we can accomplish using email through Google forms the student email addresses yeah I'm envisioning I'm envisioning if I'm if I am uh hearing the board correct uh that phase one would be to actually enlist a student voice for feedback on the current drafts and that we would take that feedback from the students and then we would uh provide that to the designer and say okay these were the first drafts uh here's some feedback on the drafts they would work in that feedback rework the uh the logo sets and then they would vote on a b or c um but I'll I I believe that for the vote uh we can definitely uh probably use uh their email accounts because that is um that's another way to to identify can they use that that youth group survey is that is that possible uh not the youth truth survey but I am thinking for the feedback session we would launch another thought exchange and then would they do that like in in their classroom like they do when they do the other surveys that's a potential yes okay and I only think of that so I I remember audience I heard you sure about expanding it out to Junior High I I actually personally would be comfortable um keeping it at what was originally suggested which is high school and I think that extending it out to eighth grade uh in my opinion uh would be a sufficient expansion into middle school and I personally wouldn't expand it all the way down uh to seventh and sixth grade but I want to share my my thought on that I have a I I have a almost middle schooler that would and friends that are in middle school that have shared that they would like to be part of this and this is why I'm putting out the table because they're feeling they're also feeling you know a loss in in their schools um such as the middle schools middle schools closing the least that we could do is gift them this you know vote so that is why I'm asking the board tonight to extend it to all middle schoolers right and I'm saying I I hear that and I I'm saying I would I would be comfortable going down to eighth grade but not down to not down to sixth grade personally and we have some further discussion uh board member already his Pena your thoughts on the the grade span um the student participants or voters well I think like when we first started when we mentioned the um the 8th graders 9 10 11 because those students um well the 11th graders will be graduating next year from their correct and then the um the 8th graders will be going into the high school so you know I think that they're the ones that should be able to to decide Thank you And to clarify my my proposal was grades 8 9 10 11 and 12.
