but happy to share tonight a little more detail in our third goal we had previously mentioned that we had met this goal but just some additional details here are minority vendor spend the goal as a refresher was three percent we actually added 43 percent more vendors from calendar year 21 to 22 and that's not a typo you don't normally see a percentage like that but it was a 1.8 million dollar additional spend uh year over year with our minority-owned vendors thank you and last but not least Safety and Security Mr Roger Smith we continue on with Safety and Security plans are in place and we'll follow those plans to the end of the school year and carry those on into the summer pre-impose security checklists changes as the weather and activities change and then to review and update the board policies and we're gearing up for this summer at the end of the legislation probably to do some more updates on board policy expand and updating internal School plan equipment of course we're just moving right into the middle school so we'll start those safety processes as renovation takes place at the middle schools it's even happy applications just just a statement you know as somebody who works in sales um an 8 000 increase in your quota is is quite impressive so it's very exciting to see the amount of minority vendors we're bringing into this District to to start to start working on our buildings and and helping us move this District forward I don't have a I have a comment um that's TIG ahead of those good old narratives you know um one of the things that I wanted to emphasize I know that when we had talked about or brought up equity and the intentional use of anti-racism I just wanted to read really quickly and these also too I thank you guys for bearing with us because we get questions we get emails and so some of the questions that are framed are addressing those in a form to where there's not to where to where it's just clear um and so one of the things that I wanted to um Give a definition for was the difference between equity and E and equality as to why we chose equity and not equality equality versus Equity equality simply means everyone has treated the exact same way regardless of need or any other individual difference equity on the other hand means everyone is provided with what they need to succeed the example of that would be um during cobit hot spots we could have given everybody a hot spot but that would have been a waste of resources and other things that could have been delegated properly the hot spots went to those students that needed them that is an example of equity and so as we move forward and we keep looking at policies I thank you that we are leaning into this because I also see it as um like a risk management as we stay ahead of this as we said in one of our courses and learned about how there's different Bills moving forward different laws moving forward as far as was it the disability um yeah Title One there are so many things that are moving forward that when you view equity through the lens that we're viewing it through it's also a way to lessen risk um mitigation so I just wanted to just put that out there that we're just not doing this because it sounds fun but it's actually purposeful and our students have benefited from it and that is the reason why we chose the word equity and not equality there's a very vast difference so hope that allow Clarity that's it great point this bucket yeah thank you for clarifying that that's a question I get often too to our equity and anti-racism policy I would also like to say that um every time I choose that button on our home page there's an update and I really appreciate how tightly we're sticking to our plan how tightly we're working that plan it might be something perhaps if the board wants to that we want to review at a at a coming meeting because I'm so proud of the work you all have done I'm proud of the work we did to create that to create that initiative and I'm so proud of of how tightly you manage the information and how that's coming it must and I was just also going to Express gratitude to each of the cabinet members for these updates um you guys are doing tremendous work the work of the equity just everything that you pour into this district is much appreciated and we appreciate the updates thank you very much absolutely so that brings us if there's no more questions or comments that brings us to our protected tax waiver Mr miles thank you madam president Dr Smith members of the board in front of you you have a memo for us to apply for a protected tax waiver from the state of Indiana this is something that we do procedurally each year and it helps to protect our operations budget our operations fund rather than take all of the hit of our property tax caps in the operations fund this allows us to spread that over all taxing funds and so we bring it to you tonight initially here as an information item and it is time sensitive so we'll see it again a little later for and as we come back and ask for approval to take action on it questions board if there are no questions we'll move on to the proposed a memorandum of understanding between the district and the Lea Madam president Dr Smith and members of the board I bring to you our memorandum of understanding between the district and the Lea that's being presented to you an mou that is designed after the collective bargaining agreement is that we were unaware of these funds this was an unanticipated act in that Lawrence Township was able to apply for a grant for the doe and we received word over spring break that we've been approved for that Grant and so now to seek your permission for the funding as we look at it to support Brook Park Elementary for student achievement when we look at the area of student achievement one of the areas that Brook Park has not been able to have a full staff keep it fully staffed and so we would like to look at the funds for using a sign-on bonus of twenty five hundred dollars for all teachers that were able to hire as well as providing a three thousand dollar retention for teachers that will remain with Brook Park for three years so we are going to look at a reimbursement agreement but that is why we are bringing this to you it is a very short cycle in which we applied the funds have to be expended by mid-september so we are anxious as our principal is looking for candidates to be able to utilize that so we will be bringing this for approval later on in the action item this evening questions I had a comment um I wanted to say I appreciate bullet point three about addressing the uh the climate and culture of the building because um bonuses are are so valuable but if you have a great school culture environment you want to work there absolutely and we even heard that at our conference so I really appreciate that thank you absolutely I really appreciate the use of Sig funds in this in this manner I and I also think this is going to definitely help principal Posey for sure so great way to use those dollars the one clarifying question I did have is how are you going to ensure that folks actually stay for that three-year period of time well we're planning to go out and meet with the Brook Park staff once this is approved and to share that and to be able to have stable leadership at that building will be key I think when we look at all the different things that are being provided for that staff the renovation the curriculum the updates why would they not want to be here plus they've got a little extra Change Is there going to be if they do leave before those three years is there any sort of contract that they are signing that they would return Yes we share with them yeah because we already have that in place so please share with the board members yeah they're a reimbursement agreement okay we've got a great teacher leaves they're going to sign that at our go out and share that share that perfect thank you so much and board member Don we do that also with professional development in many categories when we spend a certain amount we ask that staff sign off on that okay if there are no more comments that brings us to our action items um approval of our construction bids for the lecc renovation Mr Smith Madam president members of the board Dr Smith I'd first like to recognize Fannie and Howie Dennis Bain who is here with us again tonight and also with powers and Son Dustin Thurman who helped bring this recommendation to the board tonight and we recommend the board approve the bids and GMP contract for the lecc building as presented not all in favor please say aye aye any opposed the eyes have it we move on to the approval of the resolution for the 2023 protected tax waiver Mr miles thank you madam president Dr Smith members of the board as we discussed a moment ago tonight in front of you you have our recommendation for approval for a protected tax waiver and at this time we ask for you to approve the recommendation so moved second properly moved and seconded any further discussion or comments if not all those in favor aye aye any opposed the eyes have it now we'll move um Miss Johnson to our approval of the mo proposed mou Madam president Dr Smith and members of the board as was presented the information memorandum of understanding we seek approval to proceed some who did that excuse me all right second properly moved and seconded if there's no discussion move on to the vote all in favor aye any opposed the eyes have it the memory has been approved approved and we have the approval of the Personnel report Wisconsin Madam president Dr Smith and members of the board we seek approval of the Personnel report that has been submitted so moved second properly moved and seconded all those in favor please any opposed yeah I used to have it we've approved our Personnel report thank you well it's that time that lovely time for board comments and um administrator comments so I'm going to go ahead and start on this side tonight miss Dunn thank you so much president Mustin I just want to express uh extreme gratitude to the wonderful secretary to the board Sheila Blankenship as well as superintendent Smith as um as our secretary and vice president shared we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel as a board to the National School Board Administration conference and as somebody who's newly elected of the board that's still learning the ropes it was a wonderful way to learn alongside of my fellow board members and also to have fellowship and so just really want to express the Gratitude to the district for investing not in not only in our people in our schools and our students but also investing in us it's very much appreciated and um Sheila you always go above and beyond and you my friend are dearly dearly dearly loved and respected by these people that are all seen around this so thank you very much well said well said well thank you thank you madam president to that end Sheila helped me move my flight around I had a family emergency she's just the bee's knees thank you so much Sheila for all of the work you do and I just to Echo what um what Ms Dunn was saying you know I think um I think it's very easy to take for granted having a collegial board a board that that likes cares for and respects one another we had exposure to boards that do not have that at all and you know I I think what that says is not that we aren't here to question or to push back or to have a voice in the ongoing work of the district but it but we do so with a matter of respect and an ability to um always assume the best intent of one another and I just you know I think moments like being able to go to Orlando and um you know have the most delicious Cuban bread ever together um is you know is just one example of how we actually do want to work together for the betterment of this district and I'm so grateful that I sit up here every week well every other week with you all um and um we even just as a little behind the scenes you know share family photos together with one another and so I just I want to point out that that is that is an asset that this community has that many other communities don't have and it is very important particularly in trying times that we work together to continue that sort of effort thank you thank you very much Miss Lawrence Miss Norman yes thank you for saying that Miss Lawrence um one thing that became apparent to me is As on the board the superintendent we set the tone for the district in some ways so if we can show respect and dignity and professionalism um because we do care we all care we all have passion I think that's what we all um collectively agreed on um and work together well so that's kind of an area I felt called is um to be to be good public servants and to lead by example as best we can to go along with Miss Puckett's point of equity I hadn't planned on speaking on this but it just kind of naturally materialized tonight when I think of equity I have a personal story I get to share with people of it in action my youngest daughter Ellie is sitting in the back right now stretching um oh yeah yes yeah Ellie um our district this was equity in action um she couldn't walk when she started preschool at age three at the ELC the care team put together an amazing plan and had her I mean I think Mr Smith even remember seeing her walking down the hall in her gait trainer um but um so it's kind of come full circle it's a big reason why I serve for all the kids but um all those extra supports that were put in place that she needed to be a successful learner were put in place and to me that's Equity she's able to be in a general education classroom with her peers so I think the whole district for this this is and to go along with that my second point that I was going to make it ties into it is I want to thank our state legislators for meeting with us during this busy time being able to share our stories of how the tax dollars impact real kids real teachers real people is powerful and I don't take that privilege for granted and I just um I thank the rest of the board and Dr Smith and all of our legislators who had time to discuss the topics that are important in public education as they work through the budget it well said well said Miss Puckett I'm behind that I mean um just now I'm gonna have my tennis shoes on tomorrow I'll be standing in solidarity as we go down to the state house tomorrow pack the house event at 10 A.M at our state state house it's the only place where you can bombard your leaders and it not be creepy like literally last Tuesday we were running to catch up with them to talk to them and stop and I have the 30 second Pitch down to a science so if you guys need to any speaking points I've got you but that's 10 a.m tomorrow at the state house I'll be there standing yeah thank you for that further service I appreciate it I appreciate it so much and you know I got a little smoke in my eyes up here with all these comments today I I appreciate working with each and every one of you and um I want to say that on Friday um Dr Alter Meyer organized a meeting with our PFO leaders there were a lot of PFO leaders in this room we have representation in our schools and um the the discussion was all about the kids and a little bit about a solar eclipse to come so so and a little bit about our calendar and that solar eclipse so stay tuned um thank you all for all the hard work you've done I know our teachers have left but my goodness there there's no District without our teachers and for those of you in the back that are helping make our buildings um the vision of our buildings come to fruition thank you so much too okay and Ellie we see you okay yeah you're Smith thank you madam president and members of the board I want to remind you our next meeting is April 24th I do advise you to bring your firm handshakes as Mr kuznick and Dr Brown have informed me they've invited the entire Township to be honored we will have 300 plus honorees we have had a good year for Lawrence Township when it comes to achievements in our school corporation so we'll have a robust recognition at our April 24th board meeting we're starting Madam president at 6 30 because we have so many honorees that we do plan to take through we also have a few individual honorees that we will have so we won't be in this room because Roger Smith just a reminder this room will take over as a early voting Center so we'll be in the PD room for the next meeting so that's all I have today Madam president board members thank you well thank very much so we are we are oh

strong all right okay next item of business is the invitation to public comments and I believe we have none so the next item is the administrative resignation of pre-K principal answerables says discussion okay next item is the approval of Title One tutoring artemio meningo Mr Hopkins Mr meningo was previously approved for State tutoring program for the city tweeting program has switched students and now needs to be approved for Title 1 tutoring which has a different set of requirements and needs to be reapproved payment will be prorated to the February meeting and extend until the opportunities attached is a user argument approved by ausd's legal counsel there is no board action needed at this time this is an informational discussion item only thank you sir no discussion on that and next item is a report on the parent Guardian uniform survey results Mr Hopkins I have some information to share uh with the board we have a summary right there and I have some additional that I may share just based on my initial review the territory was sent on Tuesday March 20th 23 to 212 parents Guardians representing 402 students and close on Monday for 323 giving carrots seven days to complete the survey 46 percent of parents responded 97 out of 212 55.7 of those that responded bill ausd should have a uniform 14 uniform policy 14.4 percent are undecided and 29.9 bill ausc should not have a uniform or uniforms in schools in our schools um 75 staff members estimate 26 respondents 34.6 response rate 73.1 percent feel that uniform would be beneficial seven point seven percent already cited 19.2 percent of the uniform would not be beneficial student survey results 198 responses 401 students total um 37 of the student body took the survey the 27 of the students want uniforms 63 did not want uniforms in 23 11 percent are undecided I just wanted to share uh some additional information from uh you all I believe received a Red Raider uniform survey compare and contrast Mr Simon put this together it's pretty much summarizing what you what we just reviewed right now uh parents overall 55 yes that overall 72 yes students overall 63 know um self-expression exclusive uniform to limit the students ability for self-expression um 41 of the parents feel uniformed limits student self-expression staff 69 of the staff feel student self-expression would not be hindered students 51 of students go uniforms would inhibit self-expression so parents and staff were not in agreement improve academics parents 42 percent of the uniforms would improve academic performance staff 46 of the Staffing academics would improve so parents and staff guests are in agreement that uniforms would improve academics reduce bullying and peer pressure parents 56 percent feel bullying would be reduced staff 61 percent of the Staffing think uniforms promote equality so yes uh parents and staff are in agreement that uniforms would reduce bullying and students of 46 of the uniforms would not Foster equality or address this topic increase school safety uh parents 51 percent feel uniforms will improve security and safety uh we didn't have that question for staff and 66 of the students to the uniforms will not make the school safer so we have some uh some of the data disaggregated there reduced bullying improve academics parents and staff are in agreement self-expression parents and staff not in agreement Zone that's for your information and any other question you want to have on on this agenda okay thank you I feel like the children can do self-expression in other ways other than their clothing though that's just my yeah they can in one point one person pointed out to me that if we if we did go with uniforms we would probably then have the self-expression and some of the inequality expressed through how they accessorize the uniforms so I was like okay well we're not going to get into saying okay you can't wear jewelry longer than this or anything like that um but you're right and I remember reading in one survey where there was a student who said they feared it would but then once they started wearing a uniform and everybody else was they said oh it didn't really seem like it did um but I I wish we had a stronger more respondents to it um and one question that I think um would have been good to have in the survey is uh who does who do the parents think should be paying for the uniforms because when I've had some some parents say oh yeah it's a good idea the district's buying them right and I was like I don't think that District would be buying them and then somebody else pointed out that we probably would have if we went with uniforms we probably would have to buy them for some of our students based on economic need um but I just don't know like I said I don't know I've had a few people say oh yeah if the district's buying them and I was like I don't think the district would be buying them that's that's a lot of money they do something where at the end of the year they turn it into the school and then the school can distribute it to all the kids that need extra uniforms yeah and I know somebody else I spoke with somebody today the woman I work with out in um DeVoe is because I wanted to make sure that there wasn't any cultural significance to wearing specific colors among the to people I know many of the folks I know where a lot of black and I know from Back East that with an encounter with a friend of mine who was from another uh they were Seneca Indians and we had a group and they had a uniform and the uniform was purple shirts and the whole family was like no we won't we won't wear that you know that is a color of mourning and death in our culture and I was like okay so I reached out to this person to say is is there a culturally significant reason for wearing black and she said no no it seems to be more just a fashion thing that she mentioned that when she went to school they had uniforms and that I think she said every Friday was the uniform code was relaxed yeah they didn't have to wear uniforms but they still had to follow the rest of what the dress code is I think um and of course we're not voting on it or anything we're just discussing it one thing I'd like to see before it came to a vote on it is are we taking steps to make sure the dress code we have in place right now is being enforced and being the first fairly uniformly because I think that's where the whole discussion started out of then I know I've heard that from other folks but they went to go you know take their child new clothes and realize it was like somebody else right outside the principal's office who was also in violation that didn't seem to be in trouble for it also comes out too and I think yeah you mean staff following the dress code well certainly certainly yeah the other day but we I witnessed one staff member who had a crop top on okay he's gonna climb so in it like in our dress code it says no crop tops yeah yeah that makes sense if we have to model the behavior we want to see yes by chance has have you talked to any other Personnel at other sites who have uniforms um you know I can I'm just going off of uh going off of memory of where I came from in Nogales Unified School District all the elementary and middle schools had uniforms the high school did not okay so that's just going by what I went through I mean at our school on my former Middle School it was white white shirt with the khaki pants or a blue shirt with khaki pants but the elementary and the middle schools all had uniforms but high school did okay so and it was it was the family members who paid for the uniforms to the best of my memory yes yes I I could be wrong but from what I can remember of the school and the district to what extent health I would have to check but going off of what I can remember the parents we get the uniforms for the students okay so I'm just wondering okay you know if we did have families who need the assistance would the district have the resources to provide uniforms to the families or if there's um maybe some way of pre-ordering and maybe kind of getting them in bulk I don't know if that can help reduce costs um I mean if if we end up going that route you should just find out thank you I was thinking of families like I know there's many families with multiple kids but I just keep thinking of my friends Aaron and Morgana with four kids well I'm thinking okay that's you know to keep them clean and all that's at least three uniforms per kid so that's 12 uniforms to start off the year for a family before and then depending on the ages they're growing pretty rapidly so there's probably going to be needs for extra uniforms for at least two or three of them throughout but yeah but on the same note the the Catch-22 is a uniform shirt costs six dollars or a normal shirt from Walmart Target is ten dollars so that's uniforms all the right way around are going to be cheaper so well unless we factor in the fact that they're still buying non-uniform clothes for after school we're still going to I went to high school all my uniforms so yeah yeah like I said I really I do wish we'd had more than a bigger percentage of respondents to a [Music] um that I think two would like to have input from the two that aren't here as well on the discussion is I've kind of I've been doing a lot of research on the impacts of it and it for the most part seems to be a wash with the one thing that seems positive in all of the research I said was an increase at least slightly in school safety because it was easy from a distance to identify who's a student belongs here and who's not a student and doesn't and it seemed like marginal increase in attendance kind of a marginal decrease in bullying and stuff because that and the the differences and disparities that kind of lead to bullying still become apparent because um oh one friend of mine mentioned when they went they got transferred to a school of uniforms and she said my parents could only afford two uniforms so every other day I was going to school in the clothes I'd worn yesterday and getting picked on by other kids and I thought well the human race has a keen ability to find things to pick on each other about and even if we all look the same we'd find a bunch of other things to do it with but I do worry about the economic impact on so many of our families that already qualified for the free lunch program and stuff so we know that Finance is retired um but I hadn't seen research on what uniforms cost and I'm assuming the six dollars should be if it was purchased in bulk and then redistributed okay Walmart Target Children's Place Amazon was hit and miss they I mean they were they were hit and miss but Walmart Target in Children's Place were the absolute cheapest at six and seven dollars a shirt and it's just plain white T-shirt oh I did all colors why [Music] oh so the uniform was not open before I just want a polo shirt is that what the uniform was that's what I'm curious about it when I was like my okay they have blue white red and I think maroon okay and green I think that's what I was wondering when you started naming all the other uniforms and then your uniforms were you know all these different colors do you know if the six dollar shirt is a t-shirt or is it a polo it's a polo and what size I mean these are the primary kids because I can't imagine like an adult size shirt like that being oh you know I honestly I think I had to do Amazon for well Walmart and Target carry adult polos but they want Children's Place will not but they did it and if I remember right it was nine dollars for the adult ones right I don't know I'll look into it I'll be looking to it any other discussion on it okay [Music] there it is and next item is the discussion of the electronic payroll system okay um just to follow up um you have you have a you have some information there uh I went ahead and concised it some more um you have a hard copy in front of you um that highlights Time Clock Plus uh all certified and classified staff are monitored with the ability to do separate jobs substitute teacher reteaching enrich teachers during their Prime period after school tutoring uh Time Clock Plus quotes there is an estimated implementation of a one-time fee to get started annual costs um initial cost to get started so this is this is an example of what we can do by having staff um with time clock plus there's also a front line uh one thing that will share with me with with mascara writing is that the customer service is a challenge with Frontline it shows their time and attendance costs absence management costs 5500 annually and implementation costs are not including these annual costs just some of the notes that I included on on what I gave you um some additional information uh with the initial cost of of doing uh what I have there for you on the art on the hard copy to get started would be eighty two hundred and twelve dollars um I had by staying below the ten thousand I just want to highlight we would not need three quotes would be less than ten thousand dollars okay what other districts have done uh they have employees log in on computers that that works that's that's proven to be efficient this is what Bowie Unified School District does there are small rural districts smaller than us but at the same time this is what um Sahuarita Unified School District does they have any schools so so it does work by having employees have the ability to log in to computers designated computers on campus um what else do we have um structure and oversight is also key uh there's a dashboard feature edit site administrator missed time punches a sick leave up to seven days to enter Imports hours from Visions to payroll so that's very critical About Time Clock Plus is that uh time Cloud plus interfaces with interfaces with our infinite Visions accounting software for payroll so that's a critical component that each of the districts that have time to Cloud Plus have shared with me and that that has to be it has to be aligned with your payroll software and type clock plus is Imports hours from visions to check and edit for Auditors so it's also beneficial for our auditors monitors employees overtime missed punch reports even hours in time clock to read just to reiterate what was shared before of the user friendly efficient accountability brought in terms and this is from Director of Business services from Southwest Unified School District and also from the superintendent for blue Unified School District positive is Plus and uh it's it's it would be covered from unrestricted Capital uh covers the unrestricted Capital line item in our budget report would cover this so it's a good step in the right direction we're doing time sheets right now um every District that I spoke with does not do time sheets and so this is a good step just towards a level of professionalism accountability it would help the time spent doing the time sheets one at a time into payroll to the Pima County superintendent's office this would help be more efficient and not have to not have to take not have to do that on a regular basis this is just for your information as well okay and when you say our designated computer would we have to get like a computer in into in the office one computer like we have to buy an additional computer for it I believe of what what for example sawingita has is they have they have their computers in locations on the campus to where there's oversight as well so so that is something that I also know that unified does that where they have staff members also there with oversight okay okay and and at the same time Administration is more involved Administration of whether it's myself and the psych principal the special ed director but especially both administrators overlooking the missed punch reports running reports at any given moment throughout the day to see who who is punching in on time who's not it's very efficient in that way so the oversight goes to where more people are involved with the oversight just to help for it to be more efficient but the feature that I really think is beneficial is uh the accountability the edit report that can be produced for Auditors um there's um edit report for auditors so it helps it helps all the way around out of these two does there seem to be one that is more that people are more pleased with in the districts that you've spoken with Time Clock Plus okay do you know how long they've used it for anywhere from one two two or three years to four five six seven eight okay I just noticed there is a four-year commitment to it if we go with it so initially it would be yes but then the annual costs go down to just 3600 okay yeah most likely I want to say it's going to be another four-year contract but I'm just going by base initially to get started these four years the first year is more but after that every year and that's something that Dr Dumont talked about to share with there's an additional implementation from 8200 to 3 600.

Grant update Amber Calkins will be presenting to us this evening yeah I'd like to recognize Amber but also Dave clever is the representative of the Education Foundation he's also one of our mic tech board members so thank you for being here hi um I really want to thank the Yavapai County Education Foundation for awarding me this grant I teach 7th and 8th grade science at Heritage Middle School and this grant allowed me to purchase cow eyes yes I was going to bring some in but I decided not to um for our seventh graders it's kind of their culminating lab project they're doing in our life science unit and they are super excited to do it they bug me every day what are we gonna do the cow eyes so they're very excited about it it's going to be a really awesome opportunity for them something that I don't think that they have we've done and I don't know how long but the kids are really excited about it all of our seventh grade class will be able to participate the grant also allowed me to purchase some lab equipment to go along with it so the cow eyes you know they're only a one and done kind of thing but um the lab equipment that goes along with it will be that we can use year after year so really really appreciative of it and the kids are super excited about it with the title size yes well it's a complicated thing but the first thing is simple they're going to do is they're going to cut it open peel it back and they'll be able to look into it cow eyes are actually very kind of similar in how they work to humanize so it gives them an opportunity to kind of look at the Kawaii and then compare and think about how that connects too that's wonderful thank you and congratulations on the awards item 6B our golden plate award uh I don't see her name Mr Schultz there she is what I'd like to do is call up Bernie Boris our um culinary arts teacher along with her students um I always tell people when I talk about our our kitchen at Chino Valley High School I believe it's the best commercial kitchen in Chino Valley and this is just one additional item that shows that that it's at least the cleanest uh one of the cleanest uh this is the golden plate award um my understanding and you can correct me if I'm wrong the zero violations is that correct three times in a year so they had three different um inspections by the um the county health department and all three inspections they had zero violations so we're keeping a we're teaching our students to to maintain a clean and sanitary uh kitchen and I'm excited to present this to you all we can come over here if you want to there's no more we're all scoot over you guys can I'll scoot over it guys the tall guy on the end all right thank you so much appreciate what you do thank you good job one of these days when we award or when we present those I feel we need to have the statistics on how many operations actually actually received them in the year because it's not a lot they're actually opening are they on paper when all they usually it's in um February okay they'll post it and so you get to see all the different restaurants that theater Golden State Warriors that's wonderful and you know which one thank you clarify the Cowboys right two separate topics item 6C is our territorial territorial early childhood education preschool update Miss Debbie guys very out of my wheelhouse here but I appreciate you having me to talk about our preschool program I'm very very lucky to be a part of this program we have grown to right now we have about 130 kids um we have 11 paraprofessionals two certified teachers and three therapists that work with our kids and they are all top-notch we're doing such good things Florence is ready do I press it I get to have the power now guys so I'm going to durabilize you a little bit with some pictures of some of the things that we are doing here at preschool Welcome to our preschool there are two of our students there looking at a book we are a fully inclusive program so we don't have a special education classroom the kids are all integrated together for their day if they need time away if they need time to calm down then they're pulled out briefly to be able to regulate and then they come back into the classroom we fully believe in this at territorial because the kids are seeing that everybody has their differences and that it's okay that rules don't have to be exactly the same for everybody that we can show each other Grace and I really appreciate that that's part of our program we run a classrooms four in the morning and four in the afternoon the morning is our three-year-olds three as of September 1st of the school year and the afternoon is four-year-olds if I'm talking about Slow Me Down sorry guys um that's our pre-k program so they're learning a lot more of those pre-academic skills that they're going to need for kindergarten whereas our three-year-olds are really working on getting away from their parents learning how to socialize with other kids take direction from other adults and so on and so forth um like I said earlier we have approximately 130 students that's growing all the time and I'll tell you a little bit more about that on my next slide um our Early Intervention Program is something that we're really proud of right now we have about 40 special needs population in our program um speech occupational and physical therapies are provided in the classroom so those kids are not even pulled out unless they're needed to pull them out for Focus or to hear an articulation um issue that they're working on but the kids are all in the classroom They're all playing together while they're receiving these therapies and we also run a child find program every month which is more often than we need to but the population that we're serving we're seeing a lot of needs coming up that we can address and hopefully help to the point that those children don't need Services later on when it's a little harder to address get funding from tuition our peer students are tuition based they pay 195 dollars a month to come to our program um our kids that are on special needs plans do not pay to come to our program we also get scholarships from first things first we're part of the quality first program they award US 20 scholarships right now they say 10 but since we're half day program we're allowed to offer that to 20 students in our district to attend our program without tuition and then we also receive a number of Grants Mrs Cox is amazing at finding and writing these grants for us to get different materials and different things for these kids recently we got a grant from Lakeshore for nineteen thousand dollars that we get to spend by may just because we are going through the steps to make sure that we are a high quality program questions so far are we good I'm excited because I use preschool for three years and uh um I had to put this in there my favorite play is often talked about as if it were a relief on serious learning but for children play is serious learning play is really the work of childhood when you're a preschool teacher the first thing everybody says is oh how fun it's like babysitting and it is so much fun but it's a very well thought out very well planned fun it's fun with a purpose it's fun to enhance as much as far as these kids can grow so that they can have the background that they might not be getting elsewhere here's a day in the life of a tech preschooler they come in they can ride the bus if they wish otherwise their parents drop them off sign in at the gate they go out to recess for some gross motor play and fun with their friends as everybody is filtering into our program we have free breakfast in the morning and free lunch in the afternoon provided by our cafeteria balanced meals are offered to all students they always include a protein a vegetable a fruit a whole grain and a dairy and those options are available even to the kids that bring their lunchroom home so if a kid comes in with a lunch that is more snack based they are offered a vegetable they are offered a dairy option they don't have to take it we don't make them take it but they always know that those options are available at school Pledge of Allegiance I have a video here Lawrence I have to click it again or did it oh yeah okay there it is we do this every day with our three-year-olds and our four-year-olds this is Miss Gina's class that's okay I think the video didn't make it into the presentation oh man yeah because it's just a Google Drive Link well if you'd like to see the video I have it and I'd be happy to share it with you it is very cute Miss Gina goes through a right hand left hand lesson before the kids state pledge of allegiance and you can see that they're all really into it and they all know how to be respectful to the flag when we're saying the Pledge on Circle time this is our this is my favorite time of the day this is our direct instruction time our big time direct instruction time where we get the whole class together like they would be doing in kindergarten where there's always a story to be read we do thematic units every two weeks we change themes those are based on the students interests so our themes change from year to year based on hey they're talking about dinosaurs right now maybe in a month we want to have a dinosaur unit um there's always a learning game that can address our early learning standards in science math reading or social studies especially for Circle time um lots of songs lots of action lots of up and down to keep them happy and excited about learning thank you then we head into centers this isn't considered a direct instruction time but this is considered a direct instruction time for myself and for my paraprofessionals because now we can break them into smaller groups and we can see exactly what they know exactly what they can do and how far we can grow them in their learning so we do a lot of sensory play we do a lot of math and language arts of course the kids on the bottom right side are on a scavenger hunt for farm animals during our farm unit Geo boards magnifying glasses we bring in everything that we possibly can to give them every experience that we can possibly give them recess one of our favorites we got a brand new playground not too long ago with the foam ground which is amazing because we don't have to deal with wood chips anymore um we love our playground we're adding to it all the time um with the Lakeshore Grant we're hoping to get some more things on our playground but our playground is able to accommodate all of our students at once and that's really nice to be able to see how they're going to do because when they go to kindergarten they will be with all of The Kindergartners at one we also have free play Time free play time is a time where my paraprofessionals and myself are pulling kids one-on-one to work on certain things or engaging in play to build language and different social skills with them you can see just a couple of options of things that we do at free play we've got dress-up got Dr Beau there um spelling our name shaving cream writing lots of dress up sorting activities Play-Doh reading in the Cozy Corners those are all things that the students are choosing to do at that time [Music] reviewing goodbye and I have the cutest video that I wish I could share let's see this one's gonna work it's gonna work right come on Laurens you got this guys ah they did the cutest goodbye poem for you if you'd like to hear it I can put it on my phone I don't know if you want to hear it thank you somebody all right I'm not gonna I'm not gonna lie I love it uh let's see is that your granddaughter so this little girl right here is actually special I just want everyone she's super duper she is she's my granddaughter we've got the best students I'm not gonna [Music] let you do it Randy Randy yes as long as it opens because you want to hear this one and Cindy I'll let you see it that's pretty important you know what I'll just get it right from my photo gallery because I took the video on my phone it'll be right in here [Music] I take a lot of pictures guys ready here we go [Applause] that is so cute thank you foreign so just because I had more pictures any questions guys it is as a parent that has had our kids go through this program it's such a great program and I just feel like it helps them be successful even in kindergarten thank you yeah I appreciate it I know you said that you were lucky to be a part of this but I think we are lucky to have you guys very much thank you so much everybody raised value and I think I have a little boy that cried when he said goodbye to you thank you guys I really I really we have three children that have gone through um inclusive classrooms my oldest is 32 and it was just at the beginning and I couldn't be more proud that all three of them were able to experience two of them as special needs and one of them is not and it's wonderful and now two grandchildren so great great great pleasure doing a fantastic job for as many special needs children you're servicing we are very lucky to have all of them we have the best students the best parents the best campus thank you thank you guys thank you yeah thank you guys all right item 60 superintendent report Mr Scholl all right um our enrollment's holding steady we are passed well past our 100th day and so should not see significant changes from here on out so we're holding at about 34 ADM over last year and included in your packet is a little chart that kind of compares the last prior three years and this year and just remember ADM is not students because for example preschool kids kiddos and kindergartners only get half an ADM so I did put in there so you have an idea of the number of kids that we have on campus the ADM ad territorial is 454 but there are 644 Kids on Campus second largest campus that we have because of the preschool so um just wanted to point that out um teacher update I was very excited two things happened um one a while back that you know about we received the 500 000 matching teachers grant that is an Ade Grant that's a pass-through Grant through the Coconino and Yavapai County Education service agencies um so it is uh again matching Grant it should pay for a third of the project um the other exciting news that I we had is today we had a a progress meeting with our contractor and so I have a picture of what the this home supposed to look like there's also plans in here I'll pass this around and if you want to take a look at it more in depth afterwards I can get you get you that but um and there's actually two things that's part of it and there's also kind of an idea of where how they're going to lay out on the the property but um they're going to go with stick built site Built Homes still about 19 by 19 in size um a studio basically it's a studio home it'll have a full bathroom a full kitchen uh a sleeping area and a living areas that are the Living Kitchen and bedroom area kind of open and then the bathroom is has its own room and then um again 10 of them they are anticipating getting soil survey results back today they anticipate starting grading next week I'll see it I'll believe it when I see it they say they still can get it done by the end of July I think that that's um a little bit you know if if everything goes right and it doesn't rain in June and July maybe but um I'm excited to to see this go forward and I think this is a huge step they're planning on on submitting something to the town of Chino Valley the building department next week and they've already have a similar project going on in Prescott Valley those same plans are where houses are in the Prescott Valley building department permanent Department right now so and they we feel it's still going to be come in within budget that's what the that's the expectation they believe that this actually um Mr Livingston would like to see some what was it still in veneer [Laughter] they said they will look at the budget and see and give us the best thing that we can it will be the same or better than what they had initially proposed um which were modular homes these uh we anticipate are going to actually get a better value for for us um also um Mr Sheriff our facilities director was in on the meeting and it um he's I think I'll speak for a little bit more comfortable with this construction process on the maintenance side so um that's um you know so I think there's there's lots of positives in this um in this project and again I'm excited to hear from the contractor that we're moving forward that there they've got plans in place in the schedule and place and um so there was an article in The Courier about our teacher's grant that got picked up by the Republic and I've been working with the Arizona Republic reporter for a couple weeks that came out last week I was on channel channel 10 came up and interviewed me in my office Channel 5 did over um Zoom I did a radio interview I have another radio interview next week and um I spoke to CNN reported today who may be coming out and talking to us in a couple other districts about um the you know teacher shortages in general um and then specifically how maybe part of that solution it's not a cure-all solution I'm making that clear this is just only one small part of it but it's um you know how teachers can maybe be a um you know a key a part of that overall solution I think it's it's I mean I don't know maybe you guys can't make it I'm sure no matter what we do we'll get Negative there's gonna be haters out there but um in general it's been more positive much more positive than negatives well I had some people message me and even call me that thought on the news I'm like great job Gino what a great idea you know and I thought that was really awesome yeah yeah I think it's I think it's um overall a very positive process and it's just surprising um a pretty slow news day I guess but I think that it's better to be on the news yeah no it's it's a good thing and I'm excited about the project and you know if we can get this in by the end of July I think it it's got it could be a huge impact on on 10 of our staff members really so so after all the right so um Mr Sheriff's team put in the water to the property line array so that's done they once they understand what the soil survey says today then they can bring in the um the Grading Company to basically grade it I think they may have to do some Compact and move dirt and reapply it and compact it so that it's the right so that we don't have buildings that are sinking or off Hilter or whatever um so the the grading contractor will come in they'll bring in another their own I think own team to bring in utilities the electrical water septic and then they will bring in the last team to kind of work on the foundations and start going vertical they also will have a Paving contract to do the fire lane and parking spots and um we are going to do I think a couple things we want to put up a privacy fence we'll be coming back to you in the next month or two we have to make some decisions or the Board needs to make some decisions about kind of policies and procedures in relation to who has you know what kind of priorities are there to put people in there how much are they going to pay and some of the the things about there's things that people do in their homes that are completely legal that may or may not that aren't necessarily legal but you may have to make some changes and and um I'm thinking like um smoking and drinking and things like that things are that you could normally do in your house and um so you know the board's gonna have to make some decisions based on recommendations on how to do that for those for those residents we don't it's not you know we want them to enjoy living in these in these homes and um but at the same time it's on school property so um facilities update um when I was putting together the grant um for the teachers Grant Mr Livingston provided me with a list and this is the list and I wanted to show you all the sfb projects that we have received and I think the earliest one is is September 21 but that was really the hva related to the HVAC project these are things that we are having paid for by the state of Arizona not just the roofing projects not just the big HVAC projects we're getting new bleachers in both gyms we're getting new floras and not Florida finishing and both and actually the Middle School gym and also this is getting a new floor in the gym right next to us here so there's some some neat things going on and I wanted to really throw out some kudos to Mr Livingston these things would not have been impossible without him doing the work to get this done and it's a lot of work so I appreciate and then this is just the award there's all the tracking and the drawing down the cash and paying the vendors and so I wanted to throw that outfit that he's doing a great job and this is evidence it surprised me it really surprised me how many projects that we've actually done in that time so how much yeah absolutely but even like the um you know to replace the this floor in here to replace it 107 thousand dollars two bleach two sets of bleachers at the high school two hundred and forty thousand dollars and these are this is money that we do not have to spend that that the state facilities board sfob is now paying for us so I want to just throw that out there yes ma'am I know some of these are greatly needed mostly the res weather is when we're back except in the roofs would we have been redoing flooring and bleachers have we not had this money probably not in the like in the gym here probably not um the bleachers you know it's a matter of the the money that we have setting priorities um probably not the bleachers although you know we can all of this needed to be done and I don't know if that without the sfov if we would have been able to do it I was just wondering if um any of this freed up additional funds that I would say yes because some of these air conditioning units we would have to change just to kind of survive in in the uh in the buildings so absolutely but also it's it's improving the the quality of um our buildings in a better place for our students to come and learn thank you and then lastly the last thing I wanted to do is kind of give a minute or two to to Cindy to talk about you guys um approved some curriculum lately and if you've been in our hallway you've seen some of it but I just want to kind of let her have a minute or two to talk about an update on where we're at with that so we're science and social studies were the primary things that we've been receiving that that was new and then we're also receiving like our annual orders for our consumables our English language arts materials our math materials so we are sitting at about 85 received what we've received so far in pallets is the size of three school buses so think about a lot of ballots of books and so um Cheyenne Carolyn everybody's been like an all hands on deck people have been everywhere facilities has been great about moving in because stuff comes boxed and it's all mixed up you would think like all the fifth grade would be together oh no no that's not how so they've been going through it all they went back over as we've sorted it out to the schools the company thought that they had sent us a great level of incorrect materials that it wasn't the Arizona Edition because you'll remember that Arizona moved Arizona history from fourth grade to third grade and everywhere else in the country State history is still on in fourth grade so it's changed it up for Arizona so they were back over in the shipping container we purchased shipping containers to store stuff in at the campuses because a lot of the books are consumable so we're at about the 80 85 percent receive phase they know everything that's missing like some science kits and things like that and those are all in the process if you here as well as all our shipments for next year our regular orders are starting to arrive to so it's coming along and the schools have set up training for their teachers with new materials Eric Rudnick who is our education technology specialist he's the I.T part-time Territorial and then oversees all the subscriptions and all the digital interfaces for all our materials in the district that's a huge part of his job he's been on top of that working with the vendors working so because part of the process is all the teachers need to be set up while the student accounts need to be set up because every textbook has digital access and assignments and stuff as well so Eric's been in the process of integrating all that working in the training with the teachers it's been super exciting and it's it's done a few other things like we've got a couple schools uncover some really really really old material as they've been looking for okay how do we store this how do we organize this how do we get it deployed to teachers so they don't want to send it out to classrooms in case we move some people around and things like that so we found some like 30 year old reading books that were like okay we're gonna have to auction those with numbers so just a few of those things too but it's been super fun and it's exciting and it's been neat because some of the materials we've already started using and helps us too so kids are excited you know it's that thing where you feel proud of where you are when you have nice things to use and up-to-date things to use not broken things and hope falling apart books so it's super exciting and the district office yeah has been pretty crazy but so is the best part that's where it's all been that's kind of the update and we're in the process of training fantastic thank you you're welcome that's the end of my report unless there's any questions we got a hundred thousand dollars worth of new cafeteria equipment that's another grant that we got yes and that's LP Grant um just as a reminder rest of our calendar 30th and Mark for things that you're able to join us in and please let Cheyenne know if you are attending the million word challenge Awards dinner at Del Rio so we have account orgs at XO June 7th is our board meeting on a Wednesday yes yes that is correct okay I just want to double eyes yeah it's I'm Gone the next two weeks and so um my daughter's wedding so the board accommodated that I appreciate you Mr Livingston is going to have to work his magic to see if he can get his uh his proposed budget done by then or we may have another meeting towards the end of the month May 10th we'll be ready that's your adopt that's your revised budget we're talking to uh proposed budgets right very pleasant so we're backing it up in June June 7th okay yep and again if we need to we can we can do another one later in the month all right item number 6e1 is our financial activity oh thank you I've got a few few pieces of information this is a transition month for us uh you can say well why is it a transition month uh and I've got some data here we might to I've just got some sheets here I'm just going to read off some numbers but the transition month is for me every month is a transition month this year I guess you could use the phrase we're in a a cost Cyclone I hate the word cyclone but it's very descriptive of rising hot air going up based on uh conditions and we've been in one for about a year and a half so I'm going to kind of end with that but but that's kind of the gist of my report tonight uh if you look at our year-to-date expenses and the operating fund at the end of March 75 percent this is for the March March 31st 2023 financial report uh 12.5 million spent in our operating fund 69 percent of the Year excuse me 69 of the budget gone 75 percent of the Year gone we like that little seven or eight percent uh cushion so that we're not spending 90 of the budget 175 years so 69 of the budget spent uh 75 percent of the Year gone so that's a good that's a good Trend uh our Capital fund is it's hard to it's hard to even have a reference unless you look at it historically 2019 we at this point for the whole year it spent 435 000 in capital uh 2020 600 and 869 000 2021 870 000 so right on 800 000 last year 9.5 or 955 000 this year it's on your report at one million six thirty nine and that's with throwing back four buses we're encumbered we just kicked them off the cumberance had to call in Council 000 for four buses that we just said we we put in a PO but once we got looking at Miles and I guess conditions of our current Fleet we just said we can't we can't pay 200 000 for it well 220 000 for the most expensive so without the 700 745 we've still already spent 1 million 639 when we did it in 2019 it might have might have been a little bit of exaggeration but I think they were about two-thirds maybe 400 000 different kinds of books science materials yeah so things are just going up up up up up so we're trying to find ways to find heavy if you've ever been again a job at the heaviest lid keeps the stuff for women four years ago three years ago was 140.

and uh we're gonna leave you with a couple things here and then there's a uh We've started a new tradition last few years and we put a tree out in our back uh in the back behind the Middle School The Outdoor Learning Center and there'll be a tree with your plaque here for serving Big Hollow for 15 years [Applause] I want some of the board members to know and think of it like this you're not losing a great teacher you're losing a great Packer fan [Laughter] is there such a thing that's a really hit it going on it's been oh I thought I would Tom will tell you it's been I could probably reach back there um yeah 15 years is I can't believe it's gone by this fast even with Emma and Elena I mean four years ago I was saying I'll see you in four years and it's already here um good years and good moments uh you know tons of memories that I I'm really gonna miss it and and I know it's going to take some adjusting but um I really do appreciate all of the things that everybody has done for me so thank you all right here you've always been such a team player doctor Dr B is going to come up and say a couple things so Maria um I promise not to do any roast or anything like that we'll save that until the end of the year when that comes okay so I have thoroughly enjoyed um my time in getting to know Maria and working with Maria over the past four years she is definitely passionate about education she continues to come up with creative ideas to inspire she does it like this she comes to Towing into my office Dr Bianca I just have this idea you know if you have any time and so that's Maria and that has happened tons of times since I I have met her she comes up with creative ideas to inspire and support children she's been a great mentor to many of our new teachers she has eagerly participated and contributed to a number of committees even our most recent talent show committee I mean seriously what teacher in their retirement year joins the talent show committee like the last Committee of the year and she's there in the morning what can we do and she's always looking for ways to enhance what we can offer students um here at Big Hollow Elementary one of the many Vivid memories I have of Maria is when she approached me to let me know that some of her students had some great ideas for me to consider for the school one of those times she tiptoed into my office one of those ideas was a way to provide an opportunity for student voice within the school some students had written persuasive essays to make their points about why we needed a student council they were merciless in getting this opportunity to the front burner for themselves and for their peers for years to come and it is currently in place Maria was such an advocate for them but in true Maria style she let them advocate for themselves with guidance and support from her as their teacher another idea she had come and maybe my first or second year was the idea of the inspiration station our school board knows we brought it here and shared it when we were highlighting activities at Big Hollow Elementary and this inspiration State station was it provided a real a really a positive impact for our students if they just felt like they needed to pick up a little bit of cheer written on a little card and put it in their pocket Maria had instituted that for the entire school and we're always running empty and those bins near the near the restrooms and drinking fountains right so the inspiration stations continue today there are many other times that I could share with you that Maria did this within our school and we are way better for it Maria you'll be greatly missed at Big Hollow Elementary good luck congratulations and I hope you come back and visit often you know we don't we don't have many Subs as we just Julian I'm just saying so congratulations thank you so much [Applause] yes so we're going to continue with the business meeting you're not going to offend us if you leave it's okay the uh Mr McCauley is going to do an update on the three-year Tech plan next for the board it's exhibit nine in your packet foreign very funny [Laughter] is this good enough yeah okay um so over the past couple years with um we've been fortunate enough with the funds that we've been able to get that we've been able to Expedia expedite some projects so um we now have outdoor access points both in the Outdoor Classroom space in the middle school behind the school off to the side in the new uh playground equipment we also have it in the front building for where the buses line up so that our staff has access to the Wi-Fi in case of emergency during Transportation pickup and drop off also to utilize at the primary Elementary are Transportation app um we have uh completed all of our Chromebook pass out for kids K-8 we now in the elementary we have one and a half devices per student that way we have in case somebody forgets the device the device is goes out for repair they have a backup and here at the middle school we have plenty of backups now as well we did start a program this year with a company called it savvy so now every parent at registers and completes the payment for registration also has an insurance plan so they're not worried about you know the kid if their child breaks the Chromebook you know where that funds are going to come so um it's been a good partnership I know that we have spoken to them recently about the delay there has been some long delays just because of we're still in that area where shipping delays and shipping problems are out there so some of them have been coming back three to four weeks instead of the two weeks that we were promised on a turnaround but we're working with them on that but it is nice that the students aren't um having to pay out pocket for any of the repairs going forward tonight one of the the things that you're going to look at is a possibility of an employment of a network administrator that's going to help us tremendously in the district to have somebody that's going to be here five days a week full-time to help us with security we are bringing on some new security projects whether he was coming on or not so we were bringing on security projects to help us with the network help us with monitoring help us with our insurance plans as well as the security of our network with any possibility of ransomware attacks and that sort of thing so we we have some new equipment coming on site some other projects that we're looking at uh we're looking at cleaning out our closets and our Network infrastructure it's kind of like the final step with our Network infrastructure until our next update which I don't see really happening in the next couple years other than our our Wi-Fi we may have to look our Wi-Fi is coming end of year in the next three years but our switches everything's healthy everything's good our bandwidth's been supportive this year with testing that's usually our biggest test as far as how the network is handling we've had no connectivity issues at all whatsoever through the first week and a half of State Testing so that's been been good so we're in a very good place Network wise you know now our next steps are starting to look at reevaluating uh the academic side the devices that we're using we're looking at doing kind of a full look at the primary level of is the Chromebook the best device for the student at that level and then kind of working your way up through there on that if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them each year at this time we give you the a rough three-year plan and and so what Matt just shared is a summary of some things we've done and we've really progressed faster than we thought we were going to so our three year plan looks a little light because we've gotten some stuff done in the last year or two that we weren't planning so quickly so but there is a lot of Securities and I didn't mention the the hard-line building security stuff that is going to fall under us as well as we're looking in and there's still some uncertainty because we were waiting on a grant the cops grant that we're looking at for buffing our infrastructure security outside of the network any questions all right thank you Matt thanks man thank you thanks Matt um I my next item is uh just an update we we started a Big Hollow Safety Committee and we met last week and you see the agenda link there uh primarily just kind of gave the committee an update we have parents uh and staff and administrators uh all on the committee um in the link I believe on the agenda you can you know there's a link to the uh committee list if you want to see who's on the committee Lauren does represent the board of the committee um we uh I think we had a good first meeting I gave him an update on a grant we're trying to write at this time uh it's a it's about a 650 000 Grant of 500 000 would be covered we would match 150.

2023-04-11 DuPage County, IL YouTube / csd99media transcript source: youtube 2023-04-10 CSD99 School Board Meeting - LIVE EVENT · passage 1
here shirelle Fuller here Jenny hagstrom here Terry pavasich here Joanna Vasquez Draxler here Nancy cupka here Luca palauskas here and Caitlin Vincent here thank you we have a courthouse stand for the pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God an indivisible with liberty and justice for all okay we're gonna start with student perspectives all right we'll invite uh both principles forward because we have representatives from both schools this evening all right well good evening everyone um this is really fun because we both get to do student perspectives tonight which is really cool so um this we are presenting tonight our snowball teams and um they're going to talk a lot about what they do but it is like one of the coolest events ever um it's really fun to watch and the planning and preparation that goes into this and in collaboration with both schools is just really unique and they have this ability to bring all of our students together um in one forum and to talk about things that are really important to teenagers and so it's really cool that they get to present tonight so yeah I just wanted to add to that the work that they do really touches the at like the fabric of our entire District so when I've been able to be a part of the actual event and you watch the true joy and Magic that's happening and I always use the word classical Joy because there's no phones um there's usually music that's been you know from like 19 60s to present so like just kind of like Timeless connection and then that connection building our students then bring back and are able to spread in every different aspect of their life so we're both just so proud to be principals in the district that supports this program that has the program so vibrant and such great adult leaders and student leaders so we are happy to hand it over to our leaders and we'll have them introduce themselves I think they have plans to do that until what school they're from and they'll talk to you all about someone is um hello my name is Luca palaskas and I'm a senior at Downers Grove North we know you she's familiar uh my name my name is Mia cassen I'm from South and I'm a senior Madeline I'm from Downers Grove North and I'm also a senior my name is Johnny Clarin and I'm a sophomore at Downers Grove South okay so we're here today just to tell you all a little bit about operation snowball and kind of how it operates at North and South um so yeah okay so if you look up there those are three pictures from our three events just from this school year so um there's three events throughout the year so in the fall there's one at North one at South and then in the winter we combined for a Crosstown event um so snowball is a Statewide event it's known as operation snowball but in our district we really just kind of refer to it as snowball it began in Rockford in 1977 when high school students attended the Illinois teen Institute and decided that they wanted to replicate it in their own school it started in 1999 in District 99 and is one of the 75 chapters across Illinois and Beyond um you may or may not know but snowball is almost like completely student-led so it's pretty much made up of Junior and senior leaders and then there are senior directors that kind of like plan the whole event alongside all of the adults which are Super supportive throughout the whole process as a director we kind of always came up with the idea is what we wanted the event to look like and the adults were kind of there to help our ideas come to life so this year um our Retreat went back to an overnight event um due to covid it was kind of like different types of models throughout the years we had a couple virtual ones a couple one day ones up at Camp Duncan but we were finally able to go back to an overnight which was so so awesome because that's just the best way to do it and like I said there's three annual Retreats and any student is able to go okay so the snowball Retreats focus on fostering students personal growth while creating a community in friendships with one another someone like the main focuses of snowball is social social and emotional learning addressing topics like substance use prevention and education wellness and mental health maintaining healthy relationships building confidence setting goals reducing isolation and creating a positive impact in life in at school so the name Snowball is we try to keep the snowball rolling by bringing the positivity positivity back to school even after snowball's over um and snowball creates experiences for students to feel more connected to school and their peers and help prepare them for Life After High School yeah um so most of or a large part of uh snowball is the large group activities um we have pretty much every activity student-led besides motivational speakers and that's just like uh speakers coming in and telling their stories and we kind of like learn different perspectives of things and like different outlooks that we should carry on ourselves um one of my favorite things is the workshops that the directors lead themselves it has like wide ranges of different things that we do it's like just like different things to be mindful about and like like I guess just being I don't know what I'm trying to say I'm trying to say like it's just a good opportunity to like be open-minded and like relief some stress and like stuff like that so yeah we also have skits that are director-led as well but and then leaders hop in and help out with that and it's like wide range of different things uh that can be talked about in those skates like different issues that are going on so that and then uh we also have the dance which I had my first time I got to do it uh this year in the fall it was a lot of fun we had coach of Josh it was just a lot of fun uh yeah really good guy oh yeah we also the other few things are across the line which is something that really can take a mental toll on people but it's something that like is so special to people because they really like see a perspective of seeing that you're not alone in different things in your life and I think that's really strong um and then the last thing is closing activities but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to share what that is it's kind of a secret but it's supposed to be uh very like performing and like closing to snowball itself so each student is put into a small group and these small groups are randomized and we really like doing this so you go in we missed the slide okay oh so continuing on a big part of snowball are the large group speakers and the workshop facilitators that students and staff are able to participate in and learn from with the expectation of our fall speakers rise together all of our adult speakers and presenters this year had a connection with north or south and that's to make sure that the staff and students who are part of snowball are able to connect with them and learn from them outside of the classroom environment and really like like I said connect with them on a deeper level instead of sitting in a classroom and just seeing them more so one-on-one being able to talk to them outside and also at our last snowball Crosstown a social studies teacher named Mr Lazaretto inspired us to create our own super suits which basically means you're creating this like I said suit that is consistent of different struggles you might have had but you're more so creating it to show off your interests and the support that you have from others and also the strengths that others might not see so that it Gets You Through tough times as he described to US during that large group speaking workshop and then overall you can see there's a list of different individuals who have helped us keep snowball going and have taught us different lessons throughout one being Mrs Klein who helps us with self-defense learning how to defend ourselves and it's a lot of fun everyone's able to get outside of their comfort zone and then also one of our snowball sponsors Mr Leslie who is in the crowd right now I'm not sure it's retiring after 22 years and being a part of 41 different snowball retreats sorry Luca but so like I was saying before I cut her off um each student is put into a small group and it's random and we do this so you don't this is it you're not necessarily with your best friend so this so you can create relationships with people you wouldn't necessarily mean if it wasn't for snowball um and then in these small groups you process the larger group activities um and then you Bond over like your team color there's always a cheer that each group makes up and there's also some team building components to that and then um oftentimes small groups stay in contact after snowball's over so like via text or social media um especially for like Crosstown schools because you won't necessarily see them at school um and then in small groups student participants observe what's involved with being a student leader which inspires many to stay involved with Stovall and apply to be a leader um or ejector I think we all we've all been affected by this and then student leaders plan and facilitate their small group activities with the support of adult volunteers which includes staff members and then also adult age d99 snowball alumni have come back to be snowball adults um okay so I'm just gonna talk a little bit about um the impact that snowball has had on me personally um so I was a director um at this past winter which means I was I worked alongside with seven other um seniors and it was just such an amazing experience because I got to see the whole idea come together um with the help of the adults but back during my freshman year I remember going to my first snowball and coming home and literally like crying to my parents because of like how amazing I felt about it and I just knew that this would be like my second home all throughout my four years of high school and it really has been it's always been my happy place it's the place that I can go and I know the people around me aren't going to judge me and it really makes me feel like I'm not alone everything I'm going through I can see that other people are also going through it and it just gives me a place to really like be myself um it's also helped me develop the best friendships in my life like all of my best friends have come out of snowball and it's also given me like such amazing leadership opportunities like even my freshman self like looking on me like speaking in front of all of you right now would have been like um but snowball truly helped me like come out of my shell and find my true self and just make me a very confident person um so I'm very grateful to snowball for giving me that opportunity and I can't wait to see it develop over the years with like incoming students okay so um coming oh speak are we staying there yeah um so I was a freshman and the whole idea of becoming a freshman is fitting in with everybody because you might not know um as many people as you did in your middle school and as someone who came from a middle school who the majority of students do not go to Downers Grove North it was very difficult to make friends and wanting to fit in so doing everything you can to be different and be like everybody else um I would say might sound bad but I was kind of dragged to go to snowball but I'm so grateful because I truly learned who I am and I know like what my interests are now and I'm able to speak up for myself and I'm able to tell others oh like this is who I am and snowball has definitely made an impact on me in that type of way especially also because I was always so like closed off and shy and going to snowball you're kind of forced to speak to other people you normally wouldn't talk to and like Mia I've definitely made so many new friendships that I definitely would not see myself having as a freshman girl coming into Downers Grove North and I definitely think snowball has that type of toll on so many different individuals and it just helps us all connect as a community so I was also kind of forced into going my freshman year by a junior at the time on the girls golf team who was a leader um and I agreed to go but I was very hesitant but I immediately fell in love with it once I got to Camp I loved how the leaders and directors were so passionate about the program and I just loved how warm and welcoming the environment was so I decided to come back and then I wanted to be a leader and then a director um snowball has given me such a great opportunity to work with people that I would never have been able to meet if it wasn't for snowball it also has like taught me how to be vulnerable in a safe environment in front of other people and be myself um yeah I've definitely grown since freshman year um I would not have thought I'd be speaking but um just the effect that snowball has on my life will last long after high school's over oh I just wanted to say so uh when I went into snowball for the first time like I was kind of like I knew I wanted to go I was a little hesitant because none of my friends were going at all but then I realized maybe that's a good uh opportunity to grow and so I got to go and like they're all saying I got to experience the amazing environment that it is and how welcoming everyone truly is it's just truly a special experience to have and I was given the opportunity to lead uh this year in Fall as a sophomore and because we didn't have enough leaders for uh Juniors and seniors but it was definitely an amazing experience I loved getting to uh spread my energy on other people and positive energy and like just like get to be myself I feel like that's the number one thing with snowball for me is I can be myself for a little while and just like have fun with everyone and it's just an amazing time every like no matter it's always an amazing time snowball is all is it gives both North and South students the chance to learn and grow together regardless of what school you go to and the snowball students and adult sponsors are so grateful for your support so we have wristbands for you and stickers and then we're gonna hand out some warm fuzzies which is what we wear at snowball awesome I wondered what those were because usually usually we see tutus in boas I was gonna ask what I was gonna ask to explain though yeah somebody want to explain to warm fuzzy yeah okay so basically when you go to snowball and you're put into small groups you get these little yarn necklaces that are like coordinated with your color like your color group so like I was a rainbow director so mine's rainbow um so basically um so the little like Pom-Pom at the end you can take these little yarn pieces out of them and you go up to someone and you tie it on their necklace and you give them a compliment nice um so it's kind of just like a way to like go up to someone and say like hey you were really nice to me at the dance I really enjoyed getting to know you and it's just like kind of a way to like spread compliments and make them feel warm and fuzzy so that's why they're called warm fuzzies I love it sending out warm fuzzies well I want to say for those of you who thought you could never do public speaking you need to let that roll off your shoulders you guys nailed it that should not be a question in your mind ever again what can I do to keep up the momentum of snowball I mean I think um just getting it like people like involved and just like spreading that it's out there um I feel like a lot of people are very closed off to it because they think it's like a cry Fest or it's like whatever but usually when people say that and they go they're like that was not what I expected it to be because like although it is like helps be very like reflective on your feelings it's a very like positive reflection um but I just think like trying to spread like what it truly is instead of what people think it is and maybe like promoting it as more of like a positive experience unless of like a cry Fest um did you find that um were there more participants this year especially coming off of an mab for staff coming off the pandemic because there was a lot that went on in the last three years were there more participants and then the next question is how do you Market it because I would think you know you mentioned a crack Fest if people sounds like it's awesome experience so unfortunately we haven't had as much participants over the past few years um but a way we try to Market it is post it through social media we have it in our daily announcements we post it on the TVs around the school um and a lot of like the leaders and directors will like promote it through social media so just like trying to reach people um through social media but um yes we kind of have had a decrease in our participants okay do you um reach out to like at the incoming students open house and things like that yeah are there meetings during the school days or are there is it kind of limited to these events it's mostly mostly for these mostly the events themselves other than the fact that the student leaders are meeting regularly to get things prepared so it's a little bit different in that sense from a traditional Club so the underclassmen participate get a chance in during the Retreats but not as much as sort of the ongoing work that we do um I think it's Johnny did you find that um your your friends once you came back and and told them how wonderful it is and how you learn so much did they participate this sophomore year so they're still a little shaky on it honestly if they don't come it's just more fun for me I can just like make more new friends it's all right they can I'll forget about them it's fine it's a little tough to get my friends out because I'm not like I'm kind of a minority of people that go I'm a football player I throw shot put and stuff like most people don't want to do that like that are on the football team but I think overall it's still a really great experience like that like everyone should have just because of like the positivity that's spread throughout it and I'm still working on trying to get those friends out for sure all right you'll get them going yeah outside the actual event itself how much time did you guys spend in planning I mean it's no small oh my God just a guesstimate okay so as a director at least like Madeline and I and the rest of the directors we were meeting like at least like two to three times a week so we would meet month once in the morning with the adults and like planning stuff and coming up with ideas and then we'd probably meet one to two times a week just the eight of us to like like kind of like build on those ideas and figure out what we wanted the event to actually look like and that includes like coming up with workshops picking a speaker coming up with a small group themes like things like that so I mean a lot of time and like really as a leader I don't we didn't meet as much as the directors do because we didn't have to coordinate the um all the events and everything like that but I would say at least with my partner we did meet a lot only because we got really close in the beginning and we started to like hanging out with each other and we became really close friends so it was more so trying to like build a connection and getting to know each other more and more after time Sundays we had skip practice which took around two hours and Mia was my director and then overall during the week maybe twice a week I'd say maybe for an hour and a half or two hours just to get done with shopping for our certain activities and then creating these these problems with the longest I will be completely this probably took a solid four days two hours each but um yeah it's a solid amount of time just to make sure everything's going smoothly any questions thank you thank you thank you yeah I think you should I think she was like a board to snowball I don't want to go great job okay student board members are they taking a picture oh Luke I think you need a picture we'll get your picture we'll start with Caitlyn okay so at South we're obviously in the last part of the school year so just trying to make it the last month or so as a senior it's definitely getting hard at this point but we still have lots to look forward to um this weekend I believe we have our Mustang Trot which is our 5K that raises money and it's just like a good way to be active and get students involved at South so we have that going on we also have our Musical coming up which is Mamma Mia this year which I'm super excited about they always do such a good job with all the musicals so I'm definitely excited to go see that uh we also have prom at the end of this month which as a senior I'm very excited for prom just to be with all my classmates and have a good time uh this week being a senior again is definitely a good week we have two days off Wednesday and Thursday for testing so two days that I will not have to go to school which is fun and gives a chance for juniors and juniors and underclassmen to start preparing for college and take those tests that they need um and then at the end of spring break coming back to school we started the new ID needing the stickers to leave during black periods just so people who are supposed to be in the building stay in the building and an idea that I brought to miss lip that we talked about was many students are relying on their digital ID more than the actual card that they have so having to use your physical ID for stickers sometimes create a more work having to go to the bookstore to get it printed so I believe that they're working on more of a digital ID system for next year just so it's a lot more convenient for students to just pull it up on their phone always have it on them at all times rather than maybe losing the physical card or not having it on you at the time so that's an idea for next year and I've also gotten a lot of questions about potential people wanting to be interested in the board position so this position will definitely be filled by someone great from South and there's a lot of interest at South so that's super exciting and our spring sports are in full swing our baseball on softball teams and all the other sports have had a lot of games I went to a softball game and it's just nice to see like students supporting not just the main sports of football and basketball but also being there and supporting our Mustangs for our spring Sports and we're just trying to make it through the last few months of school but we have a lot to support to ourselves um so sadly I did not get to hear what Caitlyn was saying but I'll try not to repeat anything that's similar um for this week it's definitely a stressful time for juniors and sophomores who are going through scts and PSATs overall many of the students I've heard are trying to push through to the end and putting all their focus onto these exams trying to give it all they can even with the emotions that are rushing the junior is going to become seniors the sophomore is going to become Juniors everyone's still trying their best to get through everything especially I know that personally the senior class although we might want to maybe give up towards the end everyone's still trying to get through so that we can keep on pushing till the end because I know there's going to be upcoming AP exams which is also just as big as SATs and PSATs but this week for Wednesday and Thursday it's going to be nice to have once again a little break in the middle of the week but um also this Wednesday no this Friday we're hosting our Ritter invite for track and field which is well known by the state of Illinois and there's 16 teams from around Illinois that come and it's this big event that happens we always host and everyone gets to help out in some type of way and be a part of this huge Community with some friendly competition it's it's so joyful it's nice to see everyone coming together once again creating that community of sports and also this Wednesday is our NHS award night which is once again one of those bigger things where we're able to create that community of individuals who have put in all this effort to keep their grades up and also help the community at the same time by serving their hours either tutoring some kind of student helping out in sports or maybe helping the people around here I know many people helped the association called Feed My Starving Children which is always so nice to help out as much as possible and the NHS award night just gives the opportunity people to be recognized in our school community and I know personally one of this is going to be the most exciting part of the school year because there are so many senior activities going on there's prom and then also the Big Six Flags night that everyone is talking about and also different assemblies that are going to be going on and I just personally think that North is coming closer towards the end and this last these last few weeks where everyone is just pushing through happy the weather is nice outside and it's definitely nice to see everyone so joyful thank you both thank you all right do we have any study for reception visitors not there yet I have a quick recognition before we get there um there are two one is Courtney's here with us uh received the Herman Graves award from the Illinois principles Association foreign Rousseau who's our director of Technology who's also retiring this year has received all kinds of recognitions this year but two big ones this is the biggest Tech director organization well one of the biggest uh Rod received two of their biggest Awards the first one is a brand new award uh kosin has been around for 30 years they recognized leaders in the field that made impact for the next for the last 30 and they expect will make make an impact for the next 30.

2023-04-11 Wabash County, IN YouTube / MSD Wabash transcript source: youtube April 10, 2023 // MSD of Wabash County Work Session · passage 1
to realize good evening and welcome to this evening's work session I appreciate everybody making the effort to get here wow it's going to be informal as you know in a work session and there are no wrong answers so to share what's ever on your mind yep we'll go ahead and start here you have in front of you just a short little agenda as far as looking at some different things so I'll have Dr go ahead and start with the future bonding after 2023 to kind of look at that and then of course the next item is talking about Sharp Creek so so um obviously work in the process of taking out a bond for 2023 Jim Elizondo came and talked that I think our last board meeting and on the back side that kind of outlays what that bond process debt rate is going to look and you can see where the first year it's capped out at 38 cents for Debt Service off of our existing debt rate which brings us to a total tax rate of that 1.10 and then it drops off which then gives us some flexibility and opportunity to build on to that over a period of time and we would continue to do some of these types of bonding issues that would lower after the first or second year to create some gaps to fill in for any future projects that we may need so basically what this is establishing here is a a ceiling that we can then build off of over a period of time to do some future projects and obviously our biggest project to take a look at would be I like Mr kiefaber said so we'll start looking at Sharp Creek and we do know that the last last estimate that we had we did have Martin covilma do some of those pulmonary estimates as far as all of the work to Sharp creases which that includes the Royal the HVAC system one Windows um basically gives you everything to Sharp screws because we know that that hasn't been um there hasn't been a lot of updates to Sharp Creek and that's actually our our newer building 1980 and so we looked at some of those costs and said okay what are some other options to that and so of course one option is to renovate all of Sharp Creek a little more information but going beyond that then one thing that we have to consider too when we look at um that possibility of just renovating we also have to look at with so many things that would happen and where do we put the students during that time so that's a that's just something to consider so there are other um considerations too add on to existing buildings in other words be more like the South schools of course we have one Elementary there pre-k through five and then of course um they have grade 6 through 12 at Southwest Junior Senior High School and so other possibilities are what would it look like to add on to other schools the other only other schools that we have north of course will be Northfield or Metro North to be able to to have those students go into those buildings the other thing to consider we have had I believe you know we're going to do a little bit more work and more discussion but with the sixth grade going to south of high school it seems like that's been a good transition I think there might be a few changes for next year but overall that's been a good transition some good things that can happen uh with some various things and so some considerations to look at in the future too as far as moving sixth grade to Northfield that's something that would be not next year but it would be down down the line but those are some things to consider too when we talk about whether we add on to an existing building or if we we renovate so really our next steps are number four looking at you know what the board would desire as far as looking at those options what the scope of work would be would it be a simple schematic design also looking at cost estimates to do some of that we have been in some discussion with the white hand uh ybn can help with that along with Barton Coville typically when we get with Architects they give us a rough estimate and you know that's pretty rough sometimes although the last testimon we got with the Southwood gym floor was really really close but sometimes you know things change so much now with the environment of construction and so it's it would be our recommendation that we would have someone else give a little better of a better estimate so you would know exactly what that is so when we're looking at body in the future for 2024 and really we're looking at backwards you know we're looking at we would like to get this started because a lot of situations we know that Mr Hall is here today and he's done a great job keeping things going at uh at Shark Creek but there are some things that need to be done and so we have to make that decision so the ultimate goal would be that we would start whatever project it that is that you decide on and we would recommend that we would start really you know the summer of 2024 which is complete 25 then Am I Wrong the 20 the 25-26 school year yeah yes I would almost consider I mean I to be on the safe side I would say probably 18 months so that would be close but that's not enough start to finish yeah I don't know that answer that'd be something we have to get more into once we get the idea of what the scope of work is so the bonding to go on 2024 tax would have to be when would that have to go into effect so this current bonding 2023 is what will go on the 2024.

free Ally Thompson over to Kenna Marino swings it underhand Jordan picks it up starts bringing it in swings over to the wing does a quick Dodge in and we're going to get a shooting space violation there the backer just didn't come over and double team quick enough Ali Jordan sets herself up with a shooting space violation second eight meter opportunity first one of the day for Ally Jordan Addie Jordan goes low to the right hand side puts it in the goal one nothing East Longmeadow good shot there quick First Step quick little shot little bouncer in the bottom left-hand Corner one nothing Spartan goal by number five Eddie Jordan possessions turn it over quickly both times East Longmeadow taking advantage Westfield really yet to have an offensive opportunity 21 minutes and 30 seconds left in the game first half clock is now stop a little quick whistle there by the referee to make sure we stop the clock thank you Allie Thompson on the draw for East Longmeadow Megan morno on the circle quick flick and it's going to be picked up by Megan morno in transition great draw there by Ali Thompson swings it over again Jordan oh another good shot right there what a playoff that was a morno to macarini to Jordan three two really quick passes Jordan on the doorstep knocks it home number five Eddie Jordan macaroni on the assist Macarena over to Jordan before anybody else could Defender right on the doorstep no chance for the goalie two nothing he's long better Sally Thompson on the draw again for East Longmeadow so far east longmeadows won the draws no one goes up slapped around what a great draw there by Ali Thompson draws it to herself gets it to Mourinho takes it up the wing back to Megan morno at the top of the Circle East Longmeadow setting up its offense swings it up top to Jordan Jordan over to lucasic a little cutter back Thompson swing oh tough pass there by Thompson tried to hit morno really wasn't open a little tough pass another one there by Westfield they were really in transition and they're just not getting that ball they're not getting themselves in the offensive zones three turnovers by Westfield in transition really putting some pressure on on the ride bounce back to Hannah Taft moves it on up over to Thompson back to the middle to morno morno waiting setting up the offense swings it over on the right hand side to lukasik Kasich brings it over to Thompson Thompson's setting up with that left hand of hers who Kasich a quick Dodge there moving two people defending her she decides to pull it out passes it over to mourno at the back swings it to the left-hand side to Mourinho this is really where they like to set things up right there tough angle shot there by adding Jordan tough angle goalie really had it cut off there was probably a little bit of space but not the best angle to shoot at but great backup over on the other side time to shoot when you know you have a backup Richard Shore to the top over to Thompson Thompson swings it behind the lucasic and Kasich swings it over to Macaroni macarini to bridge of Jordan she is triple teamed picked up ball drop picked up ground ball by morno morno swinging in quick Dodge moving to the left moving to the left waiting back to Jordan East Longmeadow another really tough angle shot there by Bridget Jordan kind of far out East Longmeadow generally very patient but she gets followed and gets herself an eight meter on the right hand side of the eight meter Circle let's see if she tries to run it in and she does she gets a really good first step goalie right in her face great save by senior goalie ball comes down good play here they catch it they are about to get there for into the first time in the offensive zone Talia Weiss one of the best defenders free slime Meadow applying a lot of pressure Megan morno really out on attack yeah forces the turnover Bridget Jordan picks it up and they are backed into the offensive Circle Jordan flying through the middle passes it up at some point passes it to morno morno passes it again oh macarini on the doorstep there needed a quick little fake and it would have been a goal throws it into the goalie stick another great save by the goalie Westfield in transition back into the offensive zone Westfield finally going to get a chance to maybe set up its offense here an interesting shot there a low kind of leaning rolling ball from Fairly far out not a shot I think the coach is going to be happy with there from Westfield back out Jenna Hawley swings it over to a floater to Jordan she almost one hands it but nobody else there for Westfield she picks it up down the left-hand side passes it into more no more no dodging this is looks like it's going to be a shot oh she Dodges through and misses the goal she was right there on a spin Dodge not sure what that was but she was able to keep it in her stick and had a really good opportunity just shot it high [Music] he slow metal slowing it down now waiting again Thompson to morno setting up the offense looks like they're going to go to their left hand side here little penalty there not sure if that's going to be an eight meter or a 12 looks like morno is going to get herself on an eight meter the third eight meter opportunity for East Longmeadow kind of a tough angle here let's see if she can get a really good jump and get in there there you go what does she gets fouled again she put a fake on the nice save there by the goalie did a little head fake did a little stick fake didn't get the goalie to Flinch and move a little penalty from behind morno's gonna get another eight meter opportunity this time from straight on from this position most of the season mourno has been taking a taking a two-step shop on the eight meter but I have a sneaky suspicion she's going to run this one in and she does she tries the bouncer another good save again East Longmeadow ball good backup there bounce shot just bounced it a little bit too close to the Circle bounced it over the goal Isla metal did a good job backing it up all behind the goal Bridget Jordan Addie Jordan's setting a quick pick ball comes in that is a also a really nice pass right there from Jordan to Kasich had another opportunity but somebody from Westfield just got their stick in there in time shot goes over the goal again backed up by Islam Meadow Bridget Jordan again basically saying play Mourinho oh what a play hits the cutter from the wing great pass by Jordan to Marino Mourinho does a couple of stick moves and Chucks it into the top right side of the net for a goal three nothing East Longmeadow 15 minutes and 30 seconds remain in the first half Spartan goal by number one Kenna Marino number seven Bridget Jordan on the assist back to the draw Ali Thompson again for the draw fourth draw East Longmeadow has seemed to control the draw Circle so far Westfield kind of got the first one but probably shouldn't have this time again another great pickup there good draw by Ali Thompson morno kind of taking it down slowly not a great pass but Jordan picks it up Bridget Jordan picks it up heads to the top of the circle looking left for Mourinho back down low to Addie Jordan East Longmeadow setting up its offense from the X behind the goal there's a nice cutter there Bridget Jordan tough angle shot it was open but a very tough angle backed up again by East Longmeadow Kenna Marino has it brings it in flicks it back to morno on the wing morno holding it doing some dodging and weaving looking for a cutter back to Kenna Marino Mourinho checking her stick making sure she has it gonna swing it back to morno looks like they're setting up a little bit of a two-man game but now they're switching sides she Dodges she weaves she fires and fires High and not wide a little high strong shot went from the top Corner didn't make it backed up again by East Longmeadow number two Anna macarini Bridget Jordan swinging around swinging around putting some pressure on back to morno morno moving she's going to hit a cutter here it looks like back to [Applause] swinging it around to the top goes over to lucasic lucasic does a nice Dodge Gets behind the goal I will say it looks like Westfield's really settling into its offense the backer Zone appears to be working better now they're moving a little bit faster making it more difficult for those one-on-ones free slime Meadow morno has it swings It To the Left To Mourinho back to Bridget Jordan at the top of the circle try to pass to a cutting morno got intercepted Jordan picks it up swings it to lukasik Thompson moving in on the left [Applause] a good shot but right off the goalie ground ball morno good look there by Thompson morno was open had some room another great save by the goalie I think so far that's been the the player of the game has been the Westfield goalie save two or three eight meters already and probably two or three shots on the doorstep probably five or six saves Westfield bombers probably just flying through the middle really setting this up in transition here we go and we've got a shooting space violation as Westfield finally got on the move there looks like they got their legs beneath them test and all little left back there by herself with a two on one gets into the shooting space Westfield with their first real opportunity here 12 minutes and 35 seconds left Spartans up three nothing sprints oh yeah Jenna with a very quick stick the bombers went to the you know off stick Side High Holly moved the stick quickly probably made that shot go wide backed up nicely by the bombers coached from Westfield calling out a play swinging it around holding possession and attacked number 13 defending almost picked off great play there by Grace Howard there you go what really got in there saw pass coming and stuck her stick in there and really caused the Westfield bomber to miss the catch they are moving now in transition we've got three on three they're moving number four Angelina trulio up the right hand side loses it with a little penalty gonna have somebody go behind East Longmeadow going to set up the offense trulio has the ball passes it over to macarini macarini back to Jordan swings it to the top to Mourinho Mourinho over to morno morno over to Thompson as the Spartans work it down the right hand side it tries to sneak it in and she does sneaks a great pass in there to Jordan Addie Jordan Cutting Crew with her patented right hand shot and another goalie save I think that's got to be five or six just spectacular saves so far by the Westfield goalie she's making a highlight reel for herself as we speak the bombers again lose the ball in transition you can see a little bit of frustration with the coach right now from Westfield they're just not possessing the ball and transitioning getting set up in the offensive zone [Music] East Longmeadow takes it in number 28 test and all brings it in passes it to Holly Holly over to Talia Weiss's Speedy Defender running it up gets the ball up to number three Caroline lukasik on the right hand side playing the wing another one there got it over to Jordan coming around the goal will they they are gonna they're gonna get in the shooting space there she really caught that ball caught the Westfield bombers trying to chase her behind the goal but her speed prevailed as she came around corner got a shooting space another opportunity for Jordan on an eight meter she runs it in and shoots her patented eight meter down low right-hand side in the goal goal East Longmeadow four zero nine minutes and 58 seconds left in the first half well the Spartan goals scored by number five Addie Jordan Ali Thompson on the draw again Megan morno on the circle Kenna Marino on the Circle East Longmeadow has been dominating the draws so far in the first half of the first half of this game and it looks like they're gonna pick up yet another draw control win morno brings it up into the offensive zone flying through the middle looks like she's setting it up again waiting for Thompson to join the offense Thompson on the left-hand side swings it down to Bridget Jordan the senior on the team senior captain has been leading the East Longmeadow Spartans this year having a great season so far off to the an unprecedented 4-0 start yeah right there it looked like Mourinho was gonna have a good move and a good cut and she backed out I think if she had just gone through right there Thompson was gonna hit her and she would have had probably an open look at the goal if she had gone to it but she backs it out no harm no foul Esau metal maintains possession morno walking it around trying to set something up here goes into the Syracuse move flips it over to Thompson cutting through they're taking their time they're waiting morno has it they were there there were two sticks in the way Moana was looking for Jordan who was in front a couple of sticks in the way she's moving left more no moving left Cuts in slips cutting back looking for somebody cuts it back out passes it back to Jordan Jordan over to Mourinho Mourinho over to Luke Casey Kasich down to Thompson you're looking looking for the left-handed move oh she's got it oh [Applause] yeah it's a little penalty there Bridget Jordan had her stick dropped it they were fighting for the ball a little bit looks like an accidental stick got up too high took off the glasses of Jordan that's an obvious and automatic penalty when you lose your glasses gonna sit in the box there for two minutes in the precedented yellow chairs sitting in there Bridget Jordan rightfully so after get fouled takes it in and tries to score Jordan they're actually a spark play when her glasses went off she did not continue play which easily could have been a penalty on Jordan there's a good play right there trulio being aggressive with the woman down knowing that they can't get into their backer Zone it then becomes a one-on-one trulio takes it from the right-hand side Dodges and weaves her way through gets a penalty meter another eight meter opportunity here for East Longmeadow to go ahead 5-0 swings in goes low another goal East Longmeadow Angelina trulio five nothing East long that old 739 left in the first half East Longmeadow goal scored by number four Angelina trulio thank you you can see Bridget Jordan there coming over to the sidelines getting checked out by our great trainer here at East Longmeadow Diane savvical trainer for all teams doesn't matter men's women's spring summer winter fall she is the trainer that everybody at East Longmeadow goes to when they want to get back in the game she's over there working on Jordan now making sure that our top players and our only starting senior gets back into the game Westfield's look at mourinho's intense defense out there you go away offsides there because they didn't realize they were down a woman down and they just had too many people there it goes again Weiss up to Miana Calabrese getting her first bit of action right here she's got it she's going in folks she's gonna go for the goal she goes for a great shot picks it up but I think we're gonna get a call here gets in the game and I think she's being called for a dangerous shot or play of some sort she's gonna spend some time in the yellow chair after just getting into the game can't blame her really good aggressive play dodged her way through she had a good opportunity but she's going to spend a little bit of time on the sidelines as uh we're now both teams playing short-handed East Longmeadow really putting some pressure on Westfield here in the ride I mean they are just chasing them back flips it over [Music] Addie Jordan sitting over here almost oh she uses her hand yeah that's gonna get called for a penalty can't do that you've got to use the stick can't use your hand here we go and We're Off to the Races it's picked up by balls on the ground penalty bombers take it over again they're going to try to get themselves into the offensive zone but East Longmeadow has been great stopping them from getting into their play here we go East Longmeadow setting up its defense Westfield setting up its offense both teams down a woman now Westfield coming in at full strength they drop it look back to the goalie great play right there on defense by test and all causes the turnover now picks it up swings it up to twice Weiss flying through the middle uncontested passes it over to the left-hand side to Thompson Thompson bringing it up into the offensive zone brings it over to Jordan on the left-hand side coach is asking East Longmeadow to keep it hot and move and move ass and it doesn't look like they're paying too good of attention to coach here looks like they're slowing things down a little bit here we go to get a penalty there sure if that's an eight meter penalty or not it looked to me like it was on the outside of the eight meter but morno gets an eight meter another opportunity for Eastlawn metal four minutes and 28 seconds to go she swings it to the left tries of btb bouncer into the goal misses it but a good chance there [Music] coach again asking for them to keep it hot and move it around keep that ball moving Thompson has it swinging it around more back to over to mourno at the top of the key morno moving it to the right hand side looking for a cutter looking for a cutter really looks like Westfield to be honest has picked up its defense got themselves in position more and I'll swing it around it looks like there's going to be a cutter here coming through I'm looking for Thompson Maybe still holding it flips it to lukasik lukasik flips it to Jordan Jordan swings it shot High up again by East Longmeadow another really good opportunity [Music] tough play there Miana Calabrese needed to bring that one in bounds first before she passed it she must have had one little foot outside ball gets really flung this is anybody's ball when the goalie kind of Chucks it up there that far that's going to be Westfield bar eastfall Meadow applying the pressure again right here they're at the 50.

work girls I work as a teacher of Wilson um and after representing kind of the effort to get the Catholic junior high high school a little bit um and so I know that you guys have all been since the uh the winner of the draft sent um and so a couple of thoughts for a couple requests I guess um first shot something I just put forward that would be kind of an ideal would be if we could have a year extension on the wife of the public Junior Senior High School to help get things in place for the Catholic School um but so that is one thing for you guys to consider but also regardless of whether or not you want to do that um we would like to lease the building and to share with you guys to use the Junior High High School side and so kind of our ideal would be to um as a part of the least to split the costs on utilities on basic repairs on you know the the staff that we come into the buildings like janitors cooks and so that's kind of our proposal or idea for you guys and so I hope that you can um consider that tonight and yep and I'm also here if you have any questions and I'll I'll do my best thank you and then moving on to the one day senior trips so you have both Central Plains High School and Wilson High School senior trip agendas present uh Wilson was going to come down tonight but they were unable to do to track practice so there won't be a presentation it'll just be the two uh agendas itineraries that they attached for their one day senior trips um boat trips [Music] a second from Chad are there any further portions any discussion during this or I guess I have a question do both of the classes do they pay for I think last year the classes paid for the bus drivers I just let him know how much the salary oh I don't know I'm not part of the senior classic yeah they're only in the senior class for Transit but we bought this motion was provides all those in favor say all right and you opposed same sign motion passes 7-0 ksb policy updates the Bissell service the second read action taken by the board divided into two groups one group of revisions and then the last one is the galatian call it let the board uh determine whether or what to delete that so I'm going to start with the representative provisions the first one I recommend is Gab compliance of discrimination uh this policy was revised and updated to clarify the process to utilized by staff's complaints of certain types of discrimination not based on sex or student nutrition programs again that is recommended and already complete wording for this tracking I also recommend gcrf non-school employment this policy is revised to add Clarity to with classified employees maybe Granite leave or non-school employment the next revision I'm recommending is idab support programs this is provisions of this policy regarding Dropout prevention and homebound instruction there were revised from clarification and ease of use uh the new policy IFA classroom displays I recommend that we adopt the new policy as policies recommended to provide Clarity and guidance to staff regarding appropriate classroom displays recommend JBE truancy uh this probation this policy recording application of currency law for exceptional children when modified to reflect the statutory interpretation that exceptional children can still be reported as true even though they are excluded for compulsory attendance law requirements applicable to the general education students also recommend jce complaints of discrimination for students same as the previous one for adults again this policy was revised by complaint procedures to be utilized by students with a complaint of certain types of discrimination not including sex-based discrimination or discrimination that District nutrition programs also recommending jbd suspension expulsive procedures the provision of this policy regarding appeal hearings was revised reflect the statutory language more clearly specifically than a student discipline appeal hearing must be held within 20 days of the receipt of a notice of an appeal another revision recommend is K-9 plates basically this policy was provided to clearly outlined the proper complaint procedures for General complaints excluded at the prior two ones on planes those are the revisions recommended for changes of policy any questions on any of those then the last one that led family night will be left after the board if there's probably a separate motion if you want to delete it for no action if you don't want to delete it if that is the policy that if you deleted removes uh activities right now activities on Wednesday night Sunday or under work policy different criteria if that's removed that kind of opens more flexibility per ksab okay so basically we need one notion for all of the ones that were updated with another emotion whether you decide to keep this possibly important well that's right you have don't have to have action but if you believe it it's going to have to have a separate motion thank you and I'm showing that it was approved in 2015.

okay 3 600. is very affordable yeah again it seems to be the idea of having multiple designated computers around campus prevents like having a bottleneck in Angela's office while everybody's waiting to sign in at the same computer because I know she doesn't want to uh like that and in other words over there so we could open up a couple laptops and have that there's a computer in the future song the cafeteria has two is it a program that like we download onto the computer or is it just like a web well it's it's a it's a time and I'm just going to share with you what's your reviews it's a automated time and attendance system so it's it's we have to get it set up I believe it's around 27 hours to get it started getting set up so it's ready for July 1st so um it's it's it's it's a software okay software that we're gonna have to get set up Mr Simon can help us uh um Sunny Side sharing the same time and attendance it really works wonders it's just more efficient I just didn't know if the teachers could sign in on their computers classrooms there might there might be an option uh but I think for starters for accountability it needs to probably be probably good to have it be to where uh you know we're going from we don't we don't want to go from one extreme to another but yeah you need to want to have like a middle starting point of having some kind of accountability yeah so right now we have is it three different locations where stuff signed in main office the district office and he said cafeteria as well no they have security staff sign in in my office okay so there's two locations right now where all staff signs yeah but I think what would be something to look into just for efficiency and more accountability and this is just you know us getting started is for sure the district in the school office but also the special way and there you can have the special project secretary with a special ed director yeah already the site administrator in the school office he goes back to you so this initial setup where it says time and materials it's not the 4500 so I'm assuming that's assuming that's the time for the I guess the representatives to come in set up computers yeah get a skills training right training for a number of people that have the training administrators both Administration of teams uh district and school office staff the more people that are familiar with the oversight in I really believe would be the best possible option okay so but that does include the training for this stuff okay having multiple computers with it too also gives us the safety of redundancy if you have a computer that goes down we still have ones that are already set up and ready to go being able to log in from your cell phone yeah yeah the district's challenges event if they have the app that's fine but employees can log in on their phone through their app and they'll be on campus so that's why I believe you know we have time sheets we don't want to go from time sheets to one extreme yeah that's that's before we get there that's that's that's all now with Denmark let's have it here let's have multiple sites locations workstations oversight Administration for any missed punch any revisions any uh up to seven days to report the absences but but we have we have a plan to go to the next step before going to the next step let's first just get used to we have a Time clock time in attendance flight staff certified absence management system let's get used to that first and then we can always Advance even more yeah we get used to doing what we haven't done before yeah and I'm glad it's a computer program rather than a website given how spotty our internet can be at times we're right it's so they can see that happening at a critical moment and causing major problems so it's a good step in the right direction okay so any any further discussion on that okay then next item is the discussion of the third board goal um one area of improvement from the self-assessment data that will be a goal the board will work on so you have and the attachment um you have and also give you hard copy so you can see both either one I wanted to put down just the first goal that we had as a review of governing board where we will receive beginning middle and end of the year student data with a focus on reading score demonstrating growth on the dimples rating benchmarks and measures of academic progress math benchmarks instructional strategies resources and professional developments such as Beyond textbooks professional learning communities formative assessments reteaching data analysis and end-class training will be implemented to support reading goals so that was goal one and and we attached activities to show you how that was a living it was it was part of a living document that goal there was activities that let go to the last month's meeting highlighted how we were following that goal so goal two from the discussion last month communication will be strategic and collaborative with all stakeholders this communication will establish trust and build relationships with students staff families and the awful Unified School District so wanted to put there for your information as well activities that have been supporting this goal from the last meeting in March to right now you have there the March 15th accordingly school safety meeting that provided updates on the emergency response procedures and the electrical power outage on February 28th it wasn't intended to Pima County Sheriff's Office also give us a volunteer fire department on copper news isda and ausd staff March 21st to support that goal the activity was the Ajo Community response committee to conduct emergency planning the ausd facilities team Pima County Sheriff's Office U.S border Patrol Pima County Emergency Management Services and offer improved and collaborated and connected to generated in USD Tunisia the committee also conducted future planning for emergency response drills I could figure a lockdown and the third activity to support that goal uh I went ahead and put down the March 28th April 10 parent Guardian staff and student uniform survey conducting to obtain stakeholder feedback from that was the second goal based on the board discussion that's constipating and um these are the activities to support this model as we go through each goal share with the board that that goal is guiding Us in the next month and then in the month to month so we can see how hey this goal is is serving as a focus for what he and I do with our leadership team with the staffs alone and now uh um I believe that is that is a high uh update for a second ago I know what it says uh this is up to the board discussion so any discussion do you guys I feel like I've been kind of very vocalist S A lot of these goals so I kind of want to give you guys the opportunity no but I enjoy I I agree with your your goals that's it so I did I think you also you have a unique perspective on the board having worked here as a teacher and now being on the board and kind of understanding from that perspective what things could be improved and I'm going off on this bacon had given us right so she gave us a breakdown of four themes or common themes um that were popping up on our um survey so communication was one and I think we've covered that second one was data review and I feel that's covered in goal one which is great and then the last two that she pointed out was governance and then strategic Direction so I think if we can come up with something that will address those areas that she saw that were you know areas of improvement or how did you word that um areas of opportunity so you know we can take a look at that um let me see one of the ones that kind of stuck out for me was pillar three which was kind of structure and I think it kind of plays along with I guess our vision Vision as a board and I think Vision as a district question asked have policies that report have policies that require rigorous and regular evaluation of curricula curriculum and supplemental materials ensure they align with State and District standards so do we have policies that do that um and I don't know if this is too closely related related to goal one but um I mean we're reviewing student data in goal one but I want to make sure that the resources that we have are aligned with our district standards and state standards more importantly because our kids aren't going to really have much improvement unless we have the curriculum supplemental resources teacher resources to teach these standards so if we have a review of that I mean I know we have Beyond textbooks just coming in so if we can get kind of a review or an update on that is that working is it still aligned to all of our state standards um I mean we know Dibbles and m-class are aligned to State Standards but can we get a review on you know on those or any other supplemental or curriculum resources that we have I just I mean I know a lot of a lot of our textbooks are outdated um when I did teach a year of Middle School the science curriculum was very outdated so it did take a lot of me having to go out and be very creative in how I was going to deliver those standards and if we have a review of that and we have those resources readily available to our teachers I think that'll help out with our student achievement home say it again our other uh you said pillar 3 vision question 42 42.

so uh it's to harden the schools primarily and uh we're working on that right now and uh we'll submit it in the next month or so and then probably won't find out until early September if we get the grant or not but that's that's uh I updated that committee on that and I'll just keep uh dishing them information as we get it so that's it for my reports all right anybody this is our annual updated inter IGA with Gavin school district for shared food service coordinator anybody have any questions Bob how do you think it's working it's going great yeah great for us and Gavin has uh said that they would like continue so they pay half of the cost all right can I please have a motion to approve the updated IGA with Gavin for sharing the services of the food service coordinator motion for a second Warren and Doug yes yes anybody have any question with our child police agreement yeah there's no changes to this it's our current agreement uh they're just getting the program started back in January so they're just kind of getting off the ground again since the pandemic so um no changes to the agreement though any questions okay please have a motion to prove the license agreement with Premier Illinois bull LLC previously a child's place for reuse of facilities for providing before and after school programming for Big Hollow students motion second yeah yes yes and the next item I have Dr hechovitz here for the next two items if you have any questions on the memos that she's presented for the curriculum adoption so Kevin go ahead and take it the only one I have is does this change Eureka at all or is this a supplement smiles at our Middle School this will be replacing um Eureka they've been using Eureka as a supplements but it not very heavily um what we found in Sylvia garcons this year too from our math department what we've found is the Eureka resource really was lacking in so many areas that teachers were for a better word I can't think of a better word just to say struggling they were struggling to even lesson plan using Eureka for especially our courses like algebra and geometry um so basically when I kind of came on board as the Director of curriculum one of our very first um PLC meetings we had teachers in tears um and so I'm like I thought you guys had a resource for geometry in algebra but unfortunately we never purchased the um modules from Eureka for those courses so that's kind of what got this ball rolling and now over time fifth through eighth have all found that big Ideas is a little bit more usable um very a lot easier to plan with Mrs garcars did you wanna speak up I asked Sylvia to come because there are so many other pieces to this especially when you get up into the algebra geometry courses that Sylvia would be a better representative to explain kind of where we were and how Eureka is going to be used moving forward sure um sorry um so with planning-wise that Big Ideas Math offers significantly more resources than Eureka did um in terms of servicing all of our students so that's our lower level students our higher level students everyone in between including our El students because it also comes in Spanish as well and it's got lots of el resources inside of it alongside of just being in Spanish um Eureka we're still using because actually a lot of our assessment questions we've tailored from Eureka we've taken some from Big Ideas Math we've taken some from elsewhere so it's still you it's still usable within the classroom but in terms of usability of the student the actual materials of Eureka was a little bit too much for them especially with the amount of reading that was involved when it came to those materials so Big Ideas Math kind of bridges that gap for us going forward into the idea of the guided math in the classroom the math Workshop it has tons of resources that teachers can use across the board for all of their classes and we've been piloting this for the last two years since 2019.

so Rod's got work to do and he was also recognized as the volunteer of the Year for all the work he's been doing in leading schools and cyber security initiatives across the well around the world actually so he is a great leader for us and a great leader for the professional community so congratulations to rod [Applause] reception of visitors we have no slips okay and then we'll move on to the board Workshop student assistance program coordinators all right you guys get to tell me when to click to perfect [Laughter] I'm the Student Assistance coordinator at Downers Grove South and I'm Keith Bullock the coordinator at North the title doesn't really give away what we do Student Assistance Program so for those that are maybe unfamiliar we just wanted to share a general overview as to what kind of work Keith and I do in the district in our respective schools first and foremost we're both social workers but we work with a very specialized population and that population is students that are engaging in substance use or that are impacted by substance use in some way so we we work with the counseling and student Support Services team as well we work very collaboratively collaboratively within the counseling office with the other school psychologists School social workers as well as counselors to provide intervention in our specific areas of expertise with these students typically the way that our caseload grows is if there's a substance use infraction in the school building or if there's a concerned person for a student and they refer them to us so that we can offer them support most of our intervention is individual working with students however we also do support the the counseling team as well with support groups and group counseling we're going to talk a lot about this tonight but our main responsibilities within the district are substance use intervention prevention and leadership as you just heard our amazing students talk about that's a big part of our program as well and we have the unique ability to collaborate with everyone in our position so we get to collaborate with individual students we get to collaborate with the entire student body staff members families and the community at Large next slide please thank you so now a little bit about prevention and education operation snowball you just heard a lot about so that's that's one of our main prevention student leadership activities here and we also have blue crew at Downers Grove South and North Stars at Downers Grove North and these programs are freshman transition programs and they are completely led by upperclassmen and adult supported similar to operation snowball studies show that students who are engaged with their school and connected and Leadership positions are less likely to engage in Risky behaviors so that's why these major leadership programs really fall under our umbrella of Student Assistance and we wanted to share a bit about our prevention Communications so as you see these three logos on the screen the south north and District wide one 99 reasons what's your reason this is the substance use prevention campaign that we launched in the beginning of last year and we really were intentional about trying to make this a substance use campaign for everyone so it might be easier for a student who does not engage in substance use to come up with a reason to not use there may be more than 99 reasons to not use and they can come up with them easily but we also recognize that the populations that we work with almost entirely is using substances even those students have reasons to avoid use whether it be avoiding a certain substance whether it be avoiding a certain time period of using or for specific reasons everyone has a reason to avoid using so we're hoping that this campaign would reach a broader audience this year we had three Foci with our prevention Communications marijuana nicotine and Fentanyl in our school buildings we typically see marijuana nicotine which is why we felt it would be appropriate to tailor prevention Communications for marijuana and nicotine and that's also backed up by iOS data that Keith will be sharing shortly and the fentanyl communication is more of an awareness campaign fentanyl is not something thus far that we have seen in our school buildings but we are aware of the fact that there has been increased traces of fentanyl in the community which is why we wanted to share this information with students staff and families that goes for all of our prevention Communications so we we have a comprehensive prevention plan in which we share the information with students families and staff because whether you are inside or outside of the building we think it's important for all the adults in these students lives to be aware of the different substance concerns thank you so here are just a few examples of the communication so on the bottom left there is nicotine bottom right is fentanyl and above that is marijuana which will be launching later this month so typically we have about six to eight posters for each campaign each substance campaign that we launch with different information and this again goes out to students staff and families and that QR code is something that students can scan and we put that on the posters so that they can have quitting information as well as the the resources information which we pull to to put on the posters um so this is Red Ribbon Week which is arguably one of the most important weeks in Keith mine Keith's lives here at the district uh Red Ribbon Week is the nation's largest drug prevention campaign and dare I say this year it was fun so you can put fun and substance use prevention in the same sentence we got a ton of student engagement so that's what made it so successful that's what made it fun you know if if your audience is engaging with your message then that's how you know it's effective so you can see in that photo there that's in the South Commons and north and south did the same thing that's a line of students coming up to engage with our campaign and it was during resource periods this year and we we just had students constantly so we focused this year on combining the 99 reasons campaign with nicotine awareness so we had students fill out a paper so just old school pen and paper come up to the table fill out a quiz on nicotine facts and iOS data as well as writing in what's your reason so students filled that out they put in a box and they came up to spend a prize wheel and whatever prize that was had the 99 reasons logo on it because we know that getting that logo out there more normalizes substance use prevention messaging so that's something that Keith and I have been working on since our substance use campaign is so new we really want it to be viewed more so that's something that we're intentional about as well now that we have access we had the opportunity to create an access lesson that every student in the building saw about nicotine so that was something that we were able to launch that week as well and we created a student communication which you can see down there and that had uh various different models and we sent that out to staff and parents as well all right I'm going to talk a little bit about the Illinois youth survey so the survey we utilized the survey in a number of different ways including informing our communication as well as evaluating our programming in addition to giving us a broad spectrum of data on you know student behaviors interests concerns those types of things the Illinois youth survey is a state survey that's modeled on a national survey that's given biannually every other year and for the most part since uh we have 2008 and then we kind of jumped to 2014 and other than the 2020 year of covid we've been consistently participating as an entire School some schools do a sample population or they do just the 10th and the 12th grade and one of the things that the University of Illinois though funds is to survey every student and we really feel good about that process and practice because it it increases our sample sizes is enormous and then we're able to share with students that every single student who's there on school at school that day has the opportunity to take the survey and where we value the information the anonymous information that we get back from them and that's returned to us in the aggregate data from U of I who does all the processing for us um addresses topics of substance use is kind of where it's at at its start kind of at its heart but it's grown over the years to include a lot of different additional topic areas social emotional concerns issues related to bullying emotional health school connectedness questions evaluating their learning and their interest in learning which kind of predates the um five essential survey so we've kind of been getting some of that information for a little bit of time even before that and then some of the other things that are listed there as well related to beliefs and attitudes about substance use risk and protective factors for them particularly as well um and one of the things yeah one of the things I want to talk a little bit about too is how we use this for evaluation so we we create it it creates an opportunity to kind of evaluate how we're doing as a district and in our Student Assistance Program in terms of substance use prevention and reducing use overall delaying use is another important goal of the program as well so the the longer we can get students to hold out in their initial use of substance or any particular substance or any really adult behavior of that type um you know the health benefits just increase as well but we we evaluate we find opportunities in like with red ribbon week or through the iOS or through sometimes we do activities during drug and alcohol facts week in the spring to get feedback from the students about how they're feeling about the campaign so like the 99 reasons campaign really came out of student discussions during covid they were held virtually but about how we should make our program more inclusive and our approach more inclusive onto students it's so we'd like to take there's so much data from the the iys and it is all public and so you know board members staff members families parents community members can access this information for the state the county as well as for our district um we are sharing tonight District information um but what we found in general is that for really almost all of the domains that are data between the two buildings is very similar I think sometimes people feel like you know this building or that building and what we found is that the students report their experience in these areas to be extremely similar very much the same in terms of the data that we get back but we do get data back by building as well as by districts so we're able to compare that as needed but these first two points we wanted to share with you tonight um related to primarily related to social emotional uh aspects or domains for our students so one of the questions that's been a long standing question on the Illinois youth survey ask students about experiencing symptoms of depression so that's in that sort of gold color there during the past 12 months did you ever feel so sad or hopeless almost every day for two weeks or more in a row that you stop doing some usual activities and you'll see the increase there sort of in between covets so the 2020 year is where we did not or we're not able to survey students we were actually the week after we went into remote learning was when we were scheduled to take the survey which is why we did not for that year in particular and you'll see the increase and so this reflects you know National research um and even State research and data that we have that adolescents are struggling and they're struggling more than they have been after covet in a variety of ways and so as a person and as as people from our department in C Triple S it is concerning to see that that number of students find that throughout the year that they're experiencing these symptoms of depression one of the the um what are the perhaps positives when I looked back at the data from 2008 14 16 18 is that the uh the number of students that are experiencing depression to the degree of of having suicidal thoughts or ideations is kind of held steady um and so while we see students struggling at least based on the self-report from the AI where finding the students are kind of holding steady with in terms of the seriousness by which they're struggling with depression the the bottom left pie chart we ask students what they felt was their biggest contributor to stress which kind of interesting results the orange slice of the pie there at almost 30 percent is the the pressure that they put on themselves what they identified um which is you know is something that I think over the last several years each building has really worked to encourage our students to take perspective and find ways to relax and find ways to step away from the stress of activities in class and horse work but it's a struggle and then the the pink kind of follows next with pressures from teachers and then the the slices of the pie at 15 are pressure and expectations from family or challenges to their emotional health some other smaller identified stressors in the remaining section one of the things we wanted to share tonight is some Trend data related to substance use and so this feel free to ask any questions you have as we go but what you're looking at for these next three um bar graphs is an average of all four grade levels in both buildings so when we're talking about the percentage of students who report using in a 30-day period That's this average so again asking a freshman in a certain group of kids might have a very different answer than asking a senior who runs in a different group of students as well right in terms of their experiences so we're really trying to capture everything by including the averages here one of the things you'll notice is that alcohol use is going down and it's been going down for decades nationally it's kind of an interesting phenomenon to people who are studying in people like myself to find that that's happening and that starts back with the national age of 21 and kind of just continues forward where kids are still utilizing alcohol as the most popular substance used for their age group but at much lower rates than you know 23 years ago and that's what's reflected in here as well one of the interesting things during covet is we were wondering what how that impacted substance use for students and a lot of the reporting for adults is that substance use activity went up during copen and the research is showing that it actually went down for adolescence during covid and so you'll notice that I think in in some of these bar graphs as well and so what we might find in 2024 we might find an increase to some extent in all three of these areas that we're talking about tonight one of the one of the nice things I suppose though that when I think about this is that oftentimes when I'm talking to students they'll ask or say well then students must be using marijuana just proportionally to the decrease in alcohol and that's not what we're seeing so we're seeing a decrease overall in substance use and some slight increases in marijuana use definitely which we would expect to see with legalization but not in a correlation of decrease and increase um this this chart tells a very different story related to nicotine use um the 2008-2014 shows a decrease again a trend of conventional students using fewer fewer students using conventional cigarettes or tobacco products as a decrease and then kind of the explosion of e-cigarettes and Vapes on 2016 hopefully peaking in what we see at 2018 and then you'll see that drop again there with covid um I would anticipate that that nicotine used just based on um you know returning to school and more normal activities is that that will increase but hopefully we've seen sort of the peak of trendiness related to nicotine Vapes at least within this age group come and go THC and marijuana use sometimes referred to as cannabis so many different names but you'll notice how steady this is held for the last several cycles of survey and the reduction I think even the 2016-2018 in my mind kind of holding steady and you'll see that drop there again after copid and we expect that that will bump up a bit as you know students return to some of their normal activities but again anything we can do to keep that number as low as possible is a benefit to our student body and their learning uh we try to utilize the data in in um organize it in ways that kids can readily pick up the information even just passing by in the hallway so we've tried to create um some communication that demonstrates sort of the data points in a way that is both interesting and quick to to understand so we just wanted to share a couple examples of that there and then talking a little bit um at any I mentioned this as well but are the intervention aspect of our job so in addition to the educational roles and the prevention work that we do we're also doing Social Work support with students uh related to substance use violations or possession at school including students if there's a violation related to the athletic and activity code and then we're also coordinating with the path coordinators students that might be suspended in school providing additional education and opportunities for reflection opportunities to motivate change or to have change conversations with them I'm encouraging that they may you know reconsider or have an opportunity to reflect on their use patterns we provide individual counseling we work in co-facilitating group counseling situations outside of substance areas as well with C Triple S members we work with the alpha teams who are meeting every week to support students and then we're often in touch with families make taking referrals providing support helping problem solve in student situations and then occasionally we're supporting students when there's a substance use concern related to parents students often if there's a situation like that they might let their counselor know and their counselor might create an opportunity for them to speak with us as well and create a relationship in addition to the relationship they have with their counselor we're very grateful we continue to be very grateful for the support Kristen Borman is here as well Kevin was here um we have a a history of support by the district by the board by the community for this position and we're very grateful we've had very few people in the positions over time and I think it's really led to an investment and and outcomes positive outcomes in the program so we're grateful we appreciate that questions I don't have any questions but I gotta see I'm really proud of you Keith what you've done since I've come here really impressed really impressed first of all great presentation I'm sorry that I'm glad we have you I'm sorry we need you but I'm glad we did um what percentage of students like what's your case look like I think it varies I think it varies between school it varies between year okay it just depends but but you know we we have the opportunity now with the path program which is something that is newer newer developed this year that we get to intervene um with students immediately so we get to go up there and meet with students who have had those substance use infractions it just varies it's hard to hard to put a number to it um but but we appreciate that we also have staff members reaching us out to us concerned parents reaching out to us so that it's not just through violations and getting in trouble in a sense that we meet with these students it's also from It's Always from a place of concern but we appreciate when it's it comes initially from a place of concern as well if we had students self-identify there have been a few yeah sometimes a friend will um sometimes uh you know some of the anonymous reporting opportunities that we have some of the kids will self-refer oftentimes a parent if it's not related to a violation a parent will contact the counselor looking for support ideas answers referrals and then they'll often refer that over to us I think in terms of caseload I wanted to say our departments are very relationship driven it sounds maybe almost a little bit cheesy but it's true that we really value the relationships that students have with the adults in our department so oftentimes if that student has a primary relationship say with their counselor or another social worker we would go in and provide support have conversation referrals without necessarily not necessarily A handoff you know um so I really love that because what it does is it kind of wraps around the kid situation so that's why I think it's sometimes hard to say this is our caseload because it's I don't feel like the counselors are sort of handing those students off to us and they become ours it's it's sort of communally hours thank you it's amazing that we have this it's really a good thing for our students and our parents well and this is an area where districts have looked to cut costs in the future and District 99 has maintained this programming over the years and this is a great service that Keith and Antonio offer our students and of course our entire system here so it has been you know the the board year after year supporting this program that allows it to stay strong and allows it to continue to grow and you can see like with the changes in the schedule and those kinds of things different opportunities that are presented for this work so um and of course path providing additional opportunities moving forward so I thank you both thank you very much thank you wonderful presentation thank you all right uh staff receiving tenure uh is a reminder to the board we don't offer 10 years of District the state does and there's a variety of ways that our staff acquire tenure every year at this time of the year we like to just make the the board and the community aware of our staff that have made it through one of those Pathways to achieve tenure and be awarded that by the state so sharing that with you tonight and then by doing so we share that with the public as well so congratulations to all of our teachers that have reached that milestone so this is the second reception of visitors anyone none okay so now we're going to move on to the public hearing the purpose of said hearing will be to receive public comment on a proposed application to waive a portion of section 27-6 of the school code to allow driver education to substitute for one semester of fiscal education public comment will be taken during the public hearing do we have the borrowing for this yes so if we borrow in 2024 that would not take effect until 20 and if you see on that tax rate that's where we have that drop off they are starting in 2025 where we can build back up on that better so what date would that have to be we'd have to take money out before we play far forward to get it on 2025 anytime tomorrow yes but if we want to start in the summer we're going to have the money by then so you're looking spring of 2024 to actually do the borrowing late spring and really part of the reason to have the meeting now on April 10th is to hopefully make that decision of which direction that we're going as soon as possible so we can start all this process because it's going to be a bigger process than what we're doing right now obviously with the scope of work we're doing in the buildings now that will be a bigger show whether that's adding on to other existing buildings for for those third through fifth grade students or there are three sixth grade students or to renovate um strong likelihood in sixth graders going Northfield yeah right um and yeah I don't think yeah that would be something we wouldn't do until the 20th school year and we would do the same thing as what we did with Southwood I mean we'd bring parents in I'll let them know get what to get with the um the teachers and staff and let them know about the situation um and then have those discussions it would be I believe a lot more efficient now because we've already done it so we know what it looks like and we know it's worked and maybe things that we would uh would change a little bit and so that makes it I think quite a bit better have talked about room right now you know we can make it work in the rooms so if you have to be some changes obviously but you know they can make that work too so I've already talked to principal Snyder about that a little bit but here again that's going to be down the road a little bit more but the decision of course that decision plays in the same decision of what we do uh whether we renovate or whether we add on to other buildings because of the number of classrooms that we need because if sixth grade goes on to to Northfield then of course we won't have to worry about those classrooms so that's definitely something that we would want to and really I guess I would go ahead and you can't vote on that now obviously but strongly recommend that that's what we would do for better or right part of it is because this is April and um to go through the whole process we started that back in October November of the Year prior so we need a lot more time for the discussion and just to make sure that we would make sure everything works because there are a few typical differences with the schools and so not a lot but they're obviously they're building that's not a difference but the difference is with with who teaches how that works and specials and all those different things because there's a lot to consider with that because we involved everybody last time because we knew it would be something different and really we didn't have a lot of people with a lot of questions I think part of it too is because we try to have a lot of those questions answered before they came to us to make sure that that also we don't always know all those answers until we have more people ask different questions that we didn't think about so so yes we would not be able to do it next year so then we can we can see possibilities in the sixth grade in Northfield what's the possibility of increasing little nights a little Norse and even more it are the numbers there in the matter um like the space of Metro North then I think are you up against it I'm not sure Mark we're not up against it um at South that I would say to expand they are um right now our registration for next year is adding the three section at South but then maintaining our five sections of Metro North but would you have room to add more sections correctly no do you see any need for that or a possibility we are holding settings about the same numbers as last actually more than last year than this current year for next year but you don't have any waiting list we are just right now Starving in our waiting list so and sometimes there's changes in the summer but probably not that many so good question though good question because you know if you're doing something differently would you add on and if you add it on for example to Metro north for the three through fifth grade would you add any more classrooms for preschool is what you're really thinking a sixth grade there so you can have the possibility to do extra although the Fashions will look quite a bit different we're doing preschool I mean the classrooms and they would be more expensive obviously for preschool when you have bathroom restrooms yeah that would be nice unless we'd ever want to go to do you know three-year-olds so Child Care is you laughing about that yeah um okay all right we'll go a little bit six weeks all right foreign as far as a cost estimate to be able to put this together so you can see it and we want to do that as soon as possible I mean that's our recommendation to go ahead and move forward at least finding out you know some of those because you know we have some cost of some of this but you know it is a couple years ago and probably everything's outdated if you want for six months ago too so most years two years wouldn't have been that much difference you'll probably be able to just do a little bit of inflation and figure it out but what is inflation now I know what inflation is but I mean you know what is it because it changes it seems like all the time so and and you know another thing that we can think about too is I know um when we visited with shark Creek you know obviously there are some you know people would look at concerns about different of these different options and I think we just need to look at all the options you guys have you had discussion with them um well we've talked about it but we just haven't I mean they knew about the work session that's why they're here but um well I'll put it out there educationally then what's your opinion about having proximity at the Northfield High School versus having a Metro North as far as is a benefit of having Littles all the way through fifth grade all the Metro North versus doing something where shark for your kids now and having still to split is there good bad and that's a part of this part of this would need to be look at some of those things because you got to factor in gym space for your PE activities and you're forwarding your cafeteria I think more just purely their age and the educational three-year-olds to 11.

I just want to piggyback on what coach Lassie said but coming from the aspect of a club advisor they also haven't gotten stipend increases in over a decade when you look at the people that are doing this these are our class advisors the after prom advisors National Honor Society the musical the band the yearbook tedx TV video a lot of different areas Dartmouth is really known and a lot of students choose to come here from out of District because of all these extras that that we offer I would ask that you would consider the same thing that they would get a raise and it really should be more than just when I added up all these it averages out to be about Seventeen hundred dollars some much higher so much lower but if you only throw a percent of two at it people are going to see like 30 dollars more in their paycheck after 10 years thirty dollars really doesn't cut it so we would just ask that you consider all those different areas that we bring to the students of Dartmouth and consider those advisors as well thank you hi my name is Tiffany Fredette and I'm a mom to both a fifth grader and a first grader at Quinn Elementary School I've come here today as a concerned parent regarding what's entering some of our schools in terms of the level of communication between schools and families the choices for summer reading assignments have just been sent out to families and a book that raised some major concerns in our family last year as my oldest was entering fifth grade entitled steam Chasers we made that by Theresa Jennings is once again on the list my innocent and well-meaning Son chose this book because we because of his interest in all things steam related commend him for that option I knew right away why he chose it this is definitely his interest level unfortunately what we thought the book was about was far from the story that was actually discussed in the book instead the story focused on painting the black characters in the book as victims and the white police officers in the book as the heroes as the as the sorry the villains in our family we have many discussions about race religion and how we shouldn't ever judge anyone by what they look like or what they believe in one of my son's favorite books is the neighbor two doors down a story about Jackie Robinson which led to great discussion in our house about hunt how unfairly he was treated and how unfairly his family was treated and also how we actually should be treating people not based on anything their religion their race their color but treating them fairly and equally across the board that's what Dei should be about um looking back at some previous meetings Dr Jenkins stated during a June 6 school committee you have to be committed to making sure all of our kids feel welcome and all of our kids are treated fairly and justly no we can't undo years of systemic racism no you can't do that should you treat everyone and have everyone be represented yes absolutely but by painting any one side as the victim and any one side as the villain you'll never treat everyone fairly across the board in a June 27th meeting Dr Gifford talked in her presentation about overarching priorities directly quoting one of her bullets we need to foster a sense of belonging and partnership Partnerships among students and families this one needs a significant amount of work by truly informing parents and not just with surface level information Kathleen Amaral hided in her remarks in that same meeting about parents needing to be involved in a more meaningful way that quote we do a lot of telling parents what we do but there aren't enough opportunities for parents to be more part of the team and I couldn't agree more I will close by saying this certain topics of conversation should be started in the home as it isn't always the school's place to First teach about such sensitive topics as such as racism even as far as sex or sexual orientation gender or things of that nature this year thankfully the summer reading assignment options were sent home for families to discuss the options well in advance of children making their choices which is an absolute awesome step in the right direction but ideally should there should be more of that so that it opens up another layer of communication with families and parents with schools parents should be informed in order to discuss those sensitive topics first thank you for your time foreign [Applause] hi Renee Vieira co-president Dartmouth Educators Association and Jody Parisi go right on um we just want to congratulate Kathleen Amaral and being reelected to the school committee thank you very much and we want to extend a warm welcome to Elizabeth Coughlin welcome we look forward to getting to know you that's all we have have a great evening thank you [Applause] anybody else okay thank you okay next item on the agent next item on the agenda is the approval of the regular session minutes of March 27 2023.

swings it through looking for the cutter really Speedy player there for Westfield one of the faster girls that I've seen this year running through the middle of the field the pass was just a little bit too hard there it is asking to stay back Jenna Hawley with a little bit of a long throw can they keep it in no tough pass there little more patience by the goalie Westfield was doing a good job though of covering each player here we go oh what a good play right there Anna was that Anna macarini good play cutting off the pass just missed having it in her stick here we go Westfield in transition get it into the middle of the field Westfield finally into the offensive zone gonna set up their offense eastbound Meadows gonna look to set up their defense Hannah Taft out covering on defense really good play there Mourinho shifting over and picking up great footwork on defense more now picking up here East Longmeadow shifting we're gonna get a shooting space violation by Allie Thompson I believe right there another opportunity looks like we're gonna get a shot from eight beaters looks like we're going to get a wind-up instead we get a run in kind of a weak shot right there easy save another turnover by the goalie that one looks like that was enough the right pass it just slipped out of her stick went a little bit far to the right bombers get another opportunity intense defense by Hannah Taft really outside challenging the ball Borno set up she's down low challenging here moving left moving left great pick up there great defense good shifting defense oh she almost had her way there good play on defense another good opportunity there testing alt aggressive on the defense Kenna Marino getting around picking up on defense gets to the middle shoots low a really good shot right there low shot goalie didn't see it coming looked like it went to the five hole first goal for Westfield 28 seconds left on the clock Gabriella Ritter really that was the first time you all game that you saw Westfield setting up its offense and really getting an opportunity to do anything oh [Music] picks it up she flung it up to Jordan Jordan and Lucas at three seconds two seconds five seconds four three two one half time 5-1 East Longmeadow at halftime foreign thank you defense [Music] athletic director Kevin Levine [Music] I made some adjustments second half about to start Ali Thompson again on the draw flips it up flips it up flips it up again picked up by Mourinho moves it in the offensive zone Christmas Palmetto sets up its offense and looks to take the first goal of the second half swinging around earlier swings it on over here at Thompson Thompson flips it over past Jordan tomorrow morning on the left-hand side looks like East longmeadows really just setting up its offense Jordan going down below the goal sets a little pick turns two people slide and cover Addy Jordan she flips it to Bridget Jordan lorno down low two people there heads back out Jordan looking to cut to the middle morno sends it back down to Bridget Jordan Jordan flips it to the top to Hannah Marino Reno de morno Ali Thompson was almost open Laurel firing through four players on one side she gets herself to the eight meter 23 minutes and 53 seconds he doesn't listen lessons still remaining on the clock running it in fires it down low scores bottom right hand corner two quick steps one big shot Eastlawn metal gets the first ball of the second half scored by number six Megan Morneau 23 minutes and 45 seconds remain in the second half East Longmeadow not letting Westfield get back into this game by scoring the first goal of the second half they come out charging ahead and within one minute and 15 seconds they get a goal they take the lead six to one draw set up again Westfield trying to figure something out but I think it's going to have to start for them by winning some of these draw controls because they just haven't had one yet and they don't get one again Mourinho picks it up Ali Thompson doing a spectacular job on the draw tonight for East Longmeadow really getting that ball into her stick or getting it over to one of the other players on her team really knows what she's doing there flips around the balls in there and Jordan picks it up tries to scoop it in with the left hand back on the ground looks like we're gonna have a penalty here foul rather than a penalty Eddie Jordan gonna go out to the 12 meter the ball was on the ground not sure what the penalty or foul was but you're gonna reset it back up so it flips into the right to her sister Bridget Jordan number seven who flings it into number five Adam Jordan almost goes in the goal another great play there Brady Jordan picks it up keeps it in the offensive zone Marino really chased that down got a great interception over to morno morno swings it down ball gets lost there lost it a little bit in transition goes to the goalie goalie's got it flips it over to the left-hand side really like the aggressive defense there by Anna mcarini she lost the ball before but she is really aggressive about getting back here on the ride and trying to get that ball back for his home not out morno steals the pass not sure what happened there [Music] oh not sure oh this one is a wild toss but a great catch Ali Thompson getting in the ride Mourinho she's splitting everybody here down the down the left-hand side covered over there by Grace Howard doing a great job picking it up got an early penalty there gonna get a chance at an eight meter the eight meters have really been the only opportunity that Westfield has we're gonna know this was flying in misses the goal and it's going to be backed up there by Hannah's half great play to get in front of the Westfield bomber and pick up the possession for East Longmeadow Jenna Hawley has it goalie swings it over here to Hannah Taft and attacks swings it up the line to Ali Thompson Ally Thompson running a good pass there morno picks it up does a dodging me gonna come in and set up the offense passes it down low to macarini macaroni looking over to Ally Thompson swings it into morno morno again macarini does a shot not a lot on it there a good opportunity a little more power on that one maybe down low it would have gone but that type of goal we have in the night that she's having a great save again for Westfield goalie has it swings it over to the right-hand side Bridget Jordan joined the ride East Longmeadow attacking but a great pass and catch here they come they are in transition good play right there Hannah Taft not sure how that gets to the eight meter where it was but I'm not the referee seemed like that may have been a little more on the outside but Hannah Taft had to stop that play she charges insane trajectory on that pass right up to Jordan she's sprinting down the right hand side really trying to set this up she does a little bit of a dive she comes right in a tough angle but she goes through the legs Jordan puts him up seven to one for five Addie Jordan run there up the right right at Jordan and then snuck it in not a lot of space there but she found the whole 7-1 East Longmeadow 20 minutes and two seconds remaining in the second half okay Ally Thompson again with the great draw the ball is flying through motion over the line we're gonna get an offsides here it's picked up by adding Jordan she swings it in she's coming down she's gonna do a oh she passes it to her sister tough pass to catch right there puts it on the wrong side bad pass by Westfield picked off superbly by Ali Thompson who I know has her mother the sheriff of booster club watching from all the way down in Florida likely with her parents enjoying the night daughter having a spectacular game on offense on defense on the draw great game here for East Longmeadow Borno swings it down to Jordan flips it in what another opportunity was swung hard tough catch there in the middle by Addie Jordan just shot it up high another shooting space violation it does to me like Westfield's defense is just getting tired they have been on defense almost the entire game they don't have quite the same energy that they did in the second half of the first half good save there on the eight meter worn out chasing it down great play they're up in transition to really good passes here Westfield in the position they like they like this trans fast transition game East Longmeadow does a good job on defense sneaking in here we go again and what a surprise Allie Thompson picks up another ground ball causes another turnover gives East Longmeadow another possession a little bit of a high tough catch almost gets it trulio chasing it down chasing it down aggressively here we've got Jordan and trulio chasing this ball really riding here we go Thompson back on it and here we go Westfield a little bit of a penalty there he slows Westfield down and flip it over Mourinho almost kicks off the pass there runs it into the middle right into Jordan right into Trulia Westfield back into the offensive zone oh yeah well done Ally Thompson with yet another ground ball she could be setting the East Longmeadow ground ball record for today's game passes it over passes it to Mourinho Mourinho to tell who that is there we go Carolina has the ball she's gonna set up a Dodge face Dodge there fake move Bridget Jordan coming around swinging it out to morno on the wing setting it up gets a pick sliding in gonna get a shooting space violation here are we going to get a moving pick I think we've got a moving pick I think that's the right call I have to be honest it looked like the pick came in from behind the player didn't see it that's not something you can do in girls lacrosse there goes the ball that looked like a soccer punt from the goalie it comes out it's picked up number 22 Grace Howard from the defensive end picks it up number nine Miana Calabrese in the game picks it up Bridget Jordan has the ball swings it over to Kenna Marino on the right hand side three people over there covering flips it around to lucasic the Kasich moving flips it to Jordan Jordan to mourinhoop Lost Cause there Mourinho good hustle to pick it up moving it through gets it to Thompson and Kasich was open there momentarily in the middle here we go oh it's a good idea just got in the way great play by number nine Leona Calabrese caught it quick was moving towards the goal gets herself an eight meter opportunity sliding in she's sliding in stick goes High then they have a penalty here she's gonna probably be able to go right to the top of the circuit the fender there just got her stick a little close to the Head do that you're going to spend a little bit of time on the sidelines in the yellow chair for two minutes grabs the water bottle coach again calling for the ball to be moved quick there it is absolutely she deserves it she's had such a game puts one in the back of the net with that left-handed shot goal great cut from download picks it up in the middle slams it down goal eight to one assist Ed by everyone number 23 Ellie Thompson there's an assist there not sure who it was from got a lot of people up here in the booth but we just don't have the eyes to catch that one is a really nice pass whoever's past it sorry you're not getting credit here on lcat morno grabs it and Powers through running dodging weaving I have a feeling she just is looking for a shot she hasn't had one in a little while she sees a cutter oh yeah a little bit too quick but it did look like she was going to want to take a shot well she had the ball in her hand 14 minutes remaining in the game 8-1 East Longmeadow Bridget Jordan really putting on a good pressure here on the ride fast down the middle East Longmeadow setting up its defense Westfield setting up its offense they swing it to the top the number four the left-hand side to number nine they're gonna give everybody a touch here see if they can maintain possession for a little bit longer a period of time than they have for most of the game and a task out there defending stick up challenging the ball two Defenders on this side right now good defense being played all around Kenna Marino aggressively out there more no aggressively out there holding that stick great play there by Mourinho saw that pass move to the middle oh my gosh she had a great hustle got to give a lot of credit for the hustle From Grace Howard there to go pick up that ball she's just missed it let's see there you go there it is and she makes the difference with all that defensive pressure that she put on caused the Westfield bomber to step out of bounds causes the turnover East Longmeadow possession again here comes Howard upper right hand side flying through passes it up to Weiss Weiss moving through passes it over to Thompson Thompson's got it she swings it on up to Jordan Jordan mornell morno moving through left-hand side and that is another really good save off of a solid shot Richard Jordan with the ball [Music] Flip Flip Flip trulio's got it they're chasing it down there ground ball who's gonna get it Mourinho picks it up she's moving if there's a cutter cutting through come brings it to the top coach calls out a play they reset up here oh there it was picks it up foreign with the ball on the wing swings it down to Thompson Thompson to Mourinho [Music] Mourinho the calibrates out of bounds Westfield bombers [Music] 11 minutes 35 seconds remaining in the game bombers have the ball and they swing it on down dropped by Westfield picked up by East Longmeadow Jordan gonna pick it up off the ground moving in from the left hand side swings it over to Calabrese over to Mourinho and we know down to Thompson East Longmeadow looking for a cutter good move there ball in the middle picked up by the Westfield goalie Jordan trying to sneak around there and knock it out of the goalie's hands back to the goalie goalie moves it out good catch there we got ourselves a lefty here running all the way across the field to bring the ball down the left-hand side [Music] having the game of her life on ground balls in defense has a goal or two already as well up there by the case down to calibers back to Molina wins it over to Thompson Jordan's swinging in foreign picks up another ground ball and the goal he makes another series the goal is gonna have to put this one and get this uh put this video downloaded I mean it's just the number of saves have been awesome not just the number of saves but the quality of the stage by this muscular goalie has been great if it not sure about that shot seems like a little low roller although we saw Bridget Jordan score on a very similar goal on a shot like that in the last game it was spectacular this one here goes a little bit wide backed up by East Longmeadow Bridget Jordan picks it up again moving left to right looking for a cutter there was open momentarily Ally Thompson who barely puts the ball in her stick it was a quick shot goalie had absolutely no chance it was in the back of the net before the goalies [Applause] on the assist 9-1 East Longmeadow 8 and 36 6.

that's right yes okay yeah we included that one that we have currently in our handbook okay yeah this is exactly how this is going to happen right now so did we not have it at all before that or just different wording it might have been nope this never was updated no I think that's that's probably the first one they put in there yeah oh I'll make a motion to approve the policy revisions second by Josh any further discussion regarding the policies as presented okay all those in favor say aye any of her the same sign and then is there any further discussion about the family night personal opinion is that I think it needs to stay it doesn't completely restricted it just gives the superintendent the ability to say at least we can help and get a report you should get a report of said Wednesday or Sunday activities for policy I agree with Brad I think I think it's good to have a little bit of restriction so we could just put five consensus the board agreed to keep policy LED yeah okay item number 10 summer school um do you have I attend this for summer school both at Wilson Elementary and Central Plains Elementary still some of the planning still in the process of Wilson but uh teachers salary and pair of salary and do the same throughout and it'll be with this or funds loss of learning a master 3 plan so one of those Summer Schools will be through lesser three thank you there's everything pretty much like we've had in the past yeah about two weeks is the answer for the reason why they're gonna run out sometimes they're going to be an extra four or no doubt class or three and that's that is done we had until September of 2024 to have everything spent we don't want that we rely on these monies now and when they're gone then we'll have to pick up someplace else and it's true yeah but you have the pass and probably should have risk all those ones are right now through the generally supplemental so it all flows through General supplemental to us bitten average dollars and I would assume that summer school is always going to be funded throughout Crystal dollars Jayden how many kids did we have last year and it varies there's conflicts in the summertime and we utilize our this summer lunch program you know you know if they leave they don't take much with them yeah it's only a half a day on my coach of the personal summer school at Central Farms Elementary and Wilson Elementary closure for 2023 okay there's a motion by Chad and a second by Josh any further discussions all those observers say aye aye same sign I'm hearing none motion passes 7-0 and the bus bids um so last moment we had that and I reported back with the uh the bus just the bus report which also tonight in your package if you have the monthly spreadsheet that's in there to review also uh I think things to look at is the manufacture date is the end of the year at the end of life on it not the year you'll notice almost all of them manufacturer date is older than the year on the title by one or two years like the one we're looking at my title is 1999 manufactured in 1998 into life is December of 23 which is next year we can well they'll put it out on router let me use it at all question was asked the need I would recommend that we have two buses keep two buses at Wilson both field trips or any other Elementary needs along with any if we continue to run the route we have a route that we've read or we read the route to clap with for 712 and also you know also need to spare just in case when you have one bus also the two buses will provide evacuation for students in an emergency and Central Plains we keep spares at both locations for that purpose also during that that location we can gravity people must have trouble during routes and so forth you have a bus that after further review I don't know but it's costing us so much to keep to be honest with you because of that motor that's in it but might consider eliminating that bus you do have two buses it came by way of had a tornado destroying four buses you picked up two buses that's what you have there on bus at 19 and 18.
