you have to close that building all right if you're close that then you could do would have the option to do whatever you wanted to them what do you do you close the whole building for our way of closing that Attendance Center and that's important now where the resolution was to close the 712 building which has its own separate number all right to do something with the whole building because you'd have to eliminate given just the 7 through 12 buildings yes and you would have to Yes it do 720 you would have to uh if they do this you have somebody come in and actually like a legal description just like you would any property you'd have to have something which actually I think attorney could probably do this possibly come up with that people's description but you'd have to have a legal description sell it give it away eliminated now that being said I will tell you the element you would like to use a gym or physical education and price and recess time with bad weather that's okay and I've picked this around and I I thought about moving the elementary to that end but that is really not equipped for coventory kids I mean the other end's actually put better for elementary kids so you can do it but it's going to be healed kind of inconvenient for both sides of that I mean you put doors up you also have to figure out how to handle utilities because I doubt they're metered separately you'd have to separate the meters out somehow I don't know I could not take right off hand what that would how that would work you have to figure out how to beat yourself Gas and Electric but it would be one way to get get rid of the building and get something out of it whether the negotiations were whatever that whatever that led to and you're still going to have maintenance on the building that expenses Etc instead of said it might be a possible way to negotiate common space whatever certifications are so happy added survey or however that would work yeah just kind of a legal descriptions yeah they've told because I asked about that I think kind of like illegal description just like you would a piece of ground go out and split a piece of ground up you have a legal description on it so you'd have a big description on what property well yeah you'll be like closing costs you know you'd have initial expense get that far and then before the negotiations you shared those expenses however to be negotiated let's come over that way if you have one less bill it's going to cause this to sit there anyway or if it's used from another entity and really in the end it wouldn't change much of what we're negotiating I would appreciate it because it would not have to be one way or the other either they're using our building or we're using the portion of their buildings the negotiations would be the same so how I'm taking it from this letter to Cal F ties would have a difficult time to organize a 7 or 12 schools this year I mean so uh it would I mean obviously it would come at this challenges as ideal but we uh even if you guys into your extension extension we still would want to do negotiations do illegal I agree yeah yeah what I'm saying is the way I'm taking it the reason why they want that extension because it's very difficult to go from now to the beginning of August and have a school set and ready to go if it has a chance but I think what they're saying he put out the year there was no year extension there just don't want to at least believe make an attempt yeah that's what I understand okay yes what I mean and that's kind of what Mr Andrews told me if you know so here's the deal with private doesn't quite have a same criteria number of hours right nothing says they have to start August whatever the TV start as a public school you can start out playing today I just wonder if there's any interest in the Diocese of owning a building the seven through twelve follows if we sell to you per dollar yeah like the 7 through 12 portion of it uh I don't think so yeah I mean that's especially if it would simplify things in terms of negotiations and sharing utilities and stuff yeah coming up with a plan to release the building so well the next year every visit for sale a year from now to see if it turned out to be a Bible School you know for you know that way it looks like a school that's going to be there have a year or two do the survey do the negotiations I would think it'd be a problem to have a basic treatment in three days so yeah I mean I guess I don't but it's at least a great but they're selling to me as the negotiations if that's the way we moved no matter which way or whatever you need to be done you could probably give it that in 30 days because I think that's critical do anything it's critical to have that benefit case that's like if you're looking at least for next year or myself was I think it well I think it would be more difficult I don't think the 30 days could be enough would be enough to but I don't mean I know that but the separation of the two entities they cut the meters it's going to take some time to do right yeah yeah we can't get that done we cannot separate all that and you're talking you know you brought a football field in the gym things like that's going to take to go to diocese School District they won't even know that probably they've said on Sports is if they had enough right and I know they're doing a survey now you know the results of that I don't think the surveys the times you know you've got more time to complete that so and you're going to lose I mean they're going to lose kids they're neighboring districts or it's going to make yourself come here hello my other thought on doing the lease this coming year and then talking about it later too is also figure out what the elementary looks like and that made me part of that too gives us a year to kind of see how that plays out I've been asked about the elementary and I continue to say until August oh no I just like it you're going to go just like you had planned because of the office you really had to have a choice of what one thing that may change before August is Staffing I'm currently three Elementary teachers teacher short of ties for about two months have no application that could be my biggest challenge but obviously well then what do we do if we decide the lease and they don't either have enough kids to have a school there I mean that lease is going to still have to be the same right they're at the lease is the least and that's the sign that I say it knocked I mean I say this flooded Isaac but I actually think it's part of local yeah yeah it's primarily on the parish yes well I agree in that part uh but whatever assignment agreement is in agreement yeah that's kind of like anything you 've decided here at least decided to move back you're still going to pay right exactly has a couple Catholic schools is anybody sharing a building like in this same situation they share some attempting yeah the elementary is a charter school but yeah but the Charter's still public yeah even though I mean the charter is still funded through the District of Bank the schools still funded through the district they specialize in what their focus is what their goal is but the other day is still a public school funded through the state but they do share with a chart or something out there and they've had I think they've had to work out yeah research and then see there's you have to work out some details just with anything you do there maybe things come up they didn't anticipate too when he had to work out I struggled to find that significant downside for the district I mean I obviously that's a little bit of admin work to figure out how it's going to work and do all of that but in the long run I don't know especially if we do the lease if it doesn't work out which I'd probably say I hope it does the Wilson's sake of the church is it but I if it doesn't we're not really out anything it's a district and so I just foreign but I mean I think that I'm sorry and our other circumstance of a teacher sharing Like Larry said you would have to be on the categorithms at their school apart that would be under the least problem an agreement and it might be that maybe the airbags have to get their own yeah the Lush may be the one thing I had to figure out how to determine whether or not they can participate with the nutrition program like we do we sell adult prices because they won't allow you to sell our prices to people who are important I don't know the exact words like that at this point but if we're done here does them at all because all of them but we've got all that confidence not beginner but if we don't share it we got our own music teacher our own I mean as of right now we gotta have our own and we're struggling with five teachers as it is uh and like he said to find a teacher that that would be possibly being paid less or in the situation I he didn't talk about counseling and admin also two areas that you talk about sharing it was Advent counseling also as you know got some contracts later on that we're looking at present positions I guess I mean in the end we're not agreeing no matter what the negotiation is that we're going to do in the end if it's an awful offer then we don't have to take it's not why not that if you don't like it or not other options on the table other than it it does just take away from planning I mean I feel like it's even with this line of Diaries I feel like it's hard and it's just prolonging everybody being able to prepare for next year it's it's moving stuff and and students and parents and everybody just kind of up in the air still and making it harder to prepare and praying and know exactly for sure what what the preferable what you plan for I know I was asked this question Wilson Wilson uh the student wanted to know they started school leaving semester or nine weeks would they still be eligible that answers no no all seven through 12 students this year have a free us be eligible wherever they go but once you walk into a school building to attend it's School you're locked in for a year you can go someplace and play Junior Forest you need something like that but your eligibility is limited unless you move do so that was because you know I think that's what they were fishing is okay so let's say we try we don't like it can we still go someplace else to be helpful to play we can't play JV well they do it's not hardships appeal yeah I know I'm not even going to go there because I so I guess I don't quite understand the camera but like how it would be well I mean just like they said it's like Allison said you know the quality of education for us to extend in another year I mean I think that's what we're talking just the neck of the church I mean it's evident that the consensus for me but even the same thing I feel like been trying to have to slide the dice this week today I mean the bishop and the Supercuts are very supportive and very unborn with this a lot of members of the community as well if you've not say anything that you have the core classes you thought I'd cover well I actually I have for most of the core classes I have people that potentially not like definitely not absolutely but there are we at least possible yeah I it was Hammer's saying that is a good point we're in this and then we say no and they're important there to go to this Catholics when we don't do it then I get their parents that would suck gotta scramble to go somewhere well they're already scrambling anyway this would just be another option for it could be an option for the district to recoup expenses as bad as this sounds that responsibility is not on the district it's only Catholic School it gets I mean they they are asking us and are saying that they're willing to to attempt to get it done for this year but either way if they can or can't if we make the agreement it doesn't necessarily affect the district directly and obviously we're responsible to educate our students but the building is literally closed the authority kids so it's not when would you have your surveys back on well I think we have most of that now already but most of what we're going to get um the are you wondering about numbers are you okay um so the what we have right now is I think I should have brought along with me but we were killing this afternoon um I think about uh 50 of the 60 or so students have been accounted for in the survey um there of that 30 would plan on attending I think maybe 10 or so or uncertain are considering attending and 12 I said no they would not attend um now the caveat with that is this is kind of an error in the survey of it is possible that some parents like both parents filled it out and so we have more kids accounted for that have actually you know had their parents fill out the survey um but give it I mean just in terms of percentage-wise if the majority would be coming yeah it's a decent amount to be considering as well but that's also with tuition and yes they're kind of like us until August to wherever we have involve it if you're not going to happen exact numbers give any idea of what might be coming here I know you know but ten three that six did you send that survey out to the other towns we have yeah we've tried to get it out to Ellsworth and Russell because there are um you know there are some people who likely or you know to be interested in Catholic Education as I said um we've heard one family from Russell or from Ellsworth that's very interested in sending other than that I think they're relatively fresh to those communities since we haven't got a lot of responses back yeah what other option that I have discussed that has been brought up the last week is I have a few students that would like to take on my live classes to finish their requirements graduation because we could have done that even within the whole District of 2012 to use Lakeside learning some classes so there are some students have already started that discussion they don't need a lot of credits to graduate and Lakeside if you graduate every month like we do graduation Alliance so there is there is that discussion out there also I will tell you that Lakeside is funded on September 20th by the kids that are enrolled in Soviet virtual funding Lakeside so what do we need for physical word they're either move forward or not so there's about two things to consider here I think come to the conclusion first of all that's an extension I mean I have you have to pass that by action if you want to consider leasing it like it says you can say we could consider hey they have a lease agreement to be proposed you have to at that at some point you're going to have to approve that lease agreement whatever that is looks like at the very end if we go through it is made reasonable it has you know really it's going to have to be reasonable or for their side than our side you're going to have a chance doing it and now I will tell you that I've had a couple of points that I don't think they want to share I hope share with the Catholic school or share with Central points foreign people who were ever actually interested in it um so I guess that from my perspective though well there's a chance in May when they come back yes well I don't know still that chance but I yeah yeah I mean I guess just with the yeah as kind of if we can get a lease uh right now that's reasonable that splits free yeah it splits things evenly like like for us to know how many the board members are interested in going through with that so it would be that would consider a spellings yeah we can make that emotion right I will make sure yeah it's up to the board but that they have a bunch great job at least right that's what happens I can't remember the name of the time to see it yeah so basically go out and create the agreement s basically charging myself and Mr Andrews to come up basically I like that word between USD 112 and the Catholic Diocese okay for that Roger okay uh the lease agreement between USD 112 and the Catholic Diocese of Salina for 712 thank you to negotiate a lease agreement between USD 112 and the Salina diocese for the use of the Wilson 712 building the school year of 2043-24 but work to review at the May immediately uh do we want to leave that off just in case we need a special needs what's that do we want to leave that off just in case we need a special meeting to do it before yeah I mean I guess that special meeting there is a chance we have personal ity okay he actually used the word to create at least every you said to negotiate and what word should I use it's going to be negotiated to negotiate a lease agreement if that word is better and there could be I think both sides can be used both sides are obviously want that information okay okay the motion is to negotiate a lease agreement between usd-112 and the Catholic Diocese of Salina for the use of the 7th through 12 building at Wilson for the 22 for the 23-24 school year with the board to review foreign Roger okay is there any further discussion questions comments now this I'm going to ask questions this is not gonna supersede the hearing and everything that we closed okay so you know I'm getting asked that like a few people so where are we at so the resolution is in effect right we're operating the most last month of extension until that's that can be changed so that's where we're at right now resolution flows has been passed here's the bush of March not to extend tell people that's what I'm operating on because that's what work has improved in this report so this is just a negotiation yeah that's just on that okay portion because it'll be closed it's allowable okay Roger yes phone yes Josh yes I'm a no Allison yes Chad yes emotion passes sixth one okay and then item 14.

uh we dumped that right back into our operating fund and then we can transfer it to Capital I'm just oh you're doing your job I can't comment on what their willingness is to do that even if because they're kind of like us like they kind of live year by year Well if we have a surplus we'll pass it on because there's no use just building up the rainy day fund because they know it helps the state when they invest in education I just can't I just kind of deal with concrete things it's like yeah right I'm trying to fill that out there to see you know um so I mean here's a real simple example our Capital fund right now we spent 1 million 639 going through all the calculations I've calculated all the encumbrances and they're Necessary Things Larry's going to know what I'm talking about uh uh Randy's gonna know what I'm talking about fourteen thousand dollars just got on a purchase order last week to Arizona Furnishings for all your furniture at the school Larry knows about logicalis for eight thousand Sunland asphalt 210 000 if they come and fix up uh Del Rio's entrance weight that may be spent by June 30th 305 000 added to the 169 000 1 million 950 spent this year we know next year's budget is going to have about 600 000 carry forward we know it's going to get about 1.2 million new money next year if that's the way the formulas run so 1.8 million if we have to tighten our belts 1.2 and transfer it back to mno we could do it but then that means we have 600 000 to spend and this year we spent you know 0.9 so it's just as long as we as long as we know what's coming if we're going to get in the ring with the champ we want to have a way to win a win as long as you trust just to just stay within super tight parameters at least until December uh to make the work good question well I'm a Pollyanna I believe we're going to get grant money and I believe we're going to stay at 8 increase it was it was 34 44 40 to 4470.

I need to give you a little history before I get started on this one because as you know it was approved 350 000 of this budget was approved for a project that was denied we did a spin 300 Pittsburgh the work that was completed was about half we'd have to spend that much out of capital as well like 50 years in that area so we have 350 in our plan for Capital project and it does have to be spent by September 24. we had the four years ago you approved we'll see 280 000.

and you know I'm I'm saying that we're going to do this with the same amount that we have based on the kind of the conversation that we had so maybe it'll be somewhere in between and I've never met a finance Financial here at I saw the price of gas went up again now I mean that are going up you know so you know I'm with Sydney I want to give our teachers everything that we have I don't know let me be honest I don't know can I just stop them another sport Maybe I'm optimistic I like the climate and I think it's positive and only with what we're doing here and the way micro our micromanaging the funds we have I think the broader uh climate is is uh favorable too I'm I'm comfortable with the administration's recommendation myself right any other comments questions concerns like I told Debbie Downer right now you're fine because I'm I'm sitting on the fence too you know I mean I just know how much everything is going up you know every day I mean I have the I have the confidence in you guys don't get me wrong it doesn't even have to do with that you know now if we don't you know think I'm gonna I'm gonna twist though okay please think about this okay those are expenses that our teachers are going to have to incur at increased rates so they're they're effective purchasing power is going down because we are otherwise if we don't do this we're giving fairly minimum wage we're given pretty much the minimum wage that we minimum increase that we could give and so um that's you know that's about I think I can't remember the was it like is what we're given for a raise right now and we know cost of living for Social Security is pegged at almost nine eight point seven we know that so their their effective purchasing power for what they're getting in their contracts we'll be going down this just helps alleviate that somewhat okay well there you go requested me you twisted my RMI and I'm not I just want to throw it out there you know you have I want you to have the whole picture you know when you put it into perspective so but I can tell you that the town's cost of living in Merit is well above three percent this next year if we're going to be comparable with other organizations let's move forward I'm going to make a motion to approve a one-time stupid thousand to be paid quarterly this replaces the prep coverage plan that was previously approved second as fast as I can oh my goodness all in favor I I do appreciate the discussion because it's all out there it's all out on the table everyone had their opportunity so I do appreciate that scenario again maybe during this strategic planning process okay if I'm going to take someone to back to battle I mean you were going to battle I don't know where we're going together well we're just having so much fun let's move along to item uh 8D our Personnel report do we have a supplement so make sure you pull out the supplements as well um 16 was this did we know that this resignation was coming or yeah we anticipated that okay okay yeah uh we have eight new certified one new classified ten resignations three retiring 12 certified changes eight classified changes and 182 timesheets uh this is a busy time of year for personnel so a lot going on but we have you know we have 10 resignations but eight new certified so we're down a couple but that's we're working at I know that um I was talking to Mrs Cox this afternoon and and she's looking at applications I was um I know that the high school had some some interviews set up for this week um so I know that that they're working diligently to get these positions filled um we are you know struggling a little bit but it's not unique to Chino Valley it's education in general I have a question about number eight um and their resumes from termination reason I think I think something we're going to experience more of that type of business that person never came to us okay so we offered a contract in hopes that they could get their J-1 Visa but they were never in actually the United States got it okay so um right it was one of our current ones no no no this person we wanted to hire but it just it never panned out and so um again you offered the contract that was a stipulation of the J-1 um actually she would initially couldn't qualify for a J1 she tried to do an H-1B visa and it didn't work out so um 14 retiring yes being done that for a long time um we have a pretty cool SRO that's likely going to take his place we're done 26 that's also 27.

before the whatever that was for the bush that that was moved to Hollywood improvements both HVAC and lighting oh last year we put four new compressors at Wilson Bridge back so I looked at a project that we could do for this cost at that cost the district and so right now I have HVAC for the high school gym waitro SE Services How could a prior approval request which is required for professor which requires an air quality study an environmental impact letter and then historical we can make sure it doesn't affect the historical status of a building you get to do those three things before you get prior approval so at this point in the process of they'll have to take vids but we do have to do those three things I'm going to do that historical piece I have a firm innovative solutions which have just completed similar projects and I got references which I feel will do a really good job as far as doing the study and the only all I'm asking for tonight is to the study and do the Environmental water which is also reimbursable through SO3 I have that if I found I got to have that vehicle back to me to make sure that that's could be reimbursed so that's a rat this project is Bid approved Pride we've done a year for this summer uh it's a project that will help the district it's a project that will stay under the be budgeted it will cost the district funds and probably help the district out in all of us as far as maintaining abilities so I have that before you so I think that I'd like to recommend that we do the air quality study the environmental letter a bit of any solutions questions we have all that information when would that study take place that's why you'd ask if you'd like to do it a week prior to the week after the state power lifting so that it's running during that your end so we can study the hair probably within there and we'll put it in two different places okay so this process is take probably six months just to complete this process to get better drink so then uh plan is if approved we would bid these equipment and then come back and bid the contractors because contractors have been this because of the supply chain being inadequate they actually Pat it pretty high so I think it will save us funds to do it equipment and then contractor and they have proved several HVAC projects with this or plants talk to I checked with them to see if those kind of funds could do that they're looking at their projects they think you know we can do this I can tell what I've been told by both of these companies the one that we've used before and just with it you can do it for those kind of if within that budget so basically right now you're asking for this last paragraph okay foreign Josh any further questions hearing none all those in favor say aye foreign motion passes item 15 request for the bus uh city of Wilson has requested use of the school bus the transport Area Youth or swimming lessons in Ellsworth for two weeks of the 2023 summer City will contract with the USD 112 bus driver and pay for fuel as well we've got the pass so the letter is there and also a second motion by Brad second by Chad any further discussion yeah do we know that yeah no no no no she just sent me the date so here I think it was mentioned in the summer school plans for two weeks yeah philosophical June 1st of July study the letter but yeah okay June 26th to the 30th of July 3rd to 7th she has said that too any further discussion okay all those in favor say aye aye oppose same side motion passes 7-0 and School District that's so much need to be replaced because they reside because the board representative to the right Commission to this refresh your memories on that for the new board members we have two uh Representatives that represent usd-112 on the cloud recognition the clap on recognition has two and then as a whole they vote for the fifth person so we're just replacing Melissa Hubbard because she's moving out of the area and so Kirsten Price has taken her position and our other rep this for your information is Drew kermer budget of course there are but we propose we Levy the tax the tax comes us we give the school he says represented you're celebrating foreign discussion I just asked to be that position the recognition I appointed her well that's who they would have found to replace her the board so has now the board could not and this is a kind of an in-between terms I don't know how it's going to perhaps usually with the terms of you look for individuals because at some point they can't continue it's usually it's like two or three turns on the suit unless they want to do it again usually we have about three terms or four terms depends on what they said in the rules for recognition then you have to go find somebody else to sit on it a lot of times you have from one term you can bring it back past recognition assessment policy these don't want to observe they solicit finding a call and trying to find it probably went out trying to find out replacements and Kirsten was willing to do it yes as far as I remember it's always right any further discussion okay hearing none all those in favor say aye give me above same time motion passes seven Euro item number 17 donation request to Central Plains PTO would like to donate a mascot uniform to the school there's a picture of it attached they're hoping to have it ready for next year it has to be paid so it's a kind of a custom Behavior that they're willing to donate to the school the money transactions like they'll have it made and they're just gonna it's like anybody so we're accepting like any donation they want to get it made and donated to the school really felt like they wanted to do this of a relationship board to accept that donation uh because then it comes to schools enough to assign people that want to ask us get it clean it has been get it cleaned and stuff yeah um central place BTS seems like head second by Josh any further discussions all those in favor say aye oppose the same sign motion passes seven zero Mr President I moved the divorce given at six session discuss not like the first nail with the topic investigations supplemental positions certified staff classified staff and such to protect the privacy of the individuals to be discussed with Mr Larry and return to open session in this room you don't you think it only fit 15 minutes 7 55. return back in the room at 7 45.

ah sorry any other questions or comments on tonight's Personnel report nope but I would make the motion for the approval of the personal report a second all right um and the supplements um item nine a is strategic planning just a fashion item spoke to a couple of you independently but just wanted to see if there's any questions and I received names for the court team from three of the four of the five of you um so I think the two that kind of uh gave up who they were so um so I want to kind of get your names and I'll start reaching out and talk to uh Julie bacon as well she's did she send you all the kind of the wrap up that she's okay I want to make sure you got that kind of the summary of our last meeting and then we need to get this core team started and um set up a meeting for that I like the entire process I really enjoyed her interactive activities that made us kind of think outside the box a little bit and help us um identify the needs that we are looking at my two cents I I don't like it because I feel like it cost us a lot of money that's why I don't like it and it's going to cost us a lot of time too which I know here here's my opinion I mean since she gave her two cents I'm gonna give my five cents I think that when what we're doing we're we're changing things that another's group has already started so or not started but like planned out so the things that we're now going to change whether it's you know our our mission and all that kind of stuff another group has already created what our mission is and so to me now we're going to pay money for to recreate our mission where I feel like our mission um statement is going to be the same but maybe change like a few little words but yet it's costing us money to change those words so that's that's my opinion let me play Devil's Advocate real quick and ask you a question do you know anything any of the key items that's on the current strategic plan that we're supposed to be following no great question yeah and that that's one of the main reasons why I feel we need to do it I couldn't tell you any of them even though I sat in on the last strategic plan that was absolutely insane with the amount of things that we were doing and just didn't make any sense whatsoever ever I may be wrong but I know well I'm not wrong on this I know municipalities have to do their strategic plan every five years okay and when was the last time we did one it was like 14. Mr Mr noggle I think was uh 9 10.

I think Mr Howard we I sat in on one with Mr okay and I want to say that was 2014. okay that makes a little more sense and I I want to you know just mention you you had focused on the street on the mission statement and the kind of tagline um I think that's just a small part of it yeah um but that's just again that's my opinion but and there's nothing that says we have to do that no I think the main focus is that we understand the direction of where the district is going and that's the the meat and potatoes okay um and that's the sort of the more specific um uh uh the the specifics about the direction we want to make sure we're headed and then it's up to us to make sure that we're meeting those okay and that's where I think we're not sure whether we the district is doing it or not and that's our job that's why that's that's what's most critical I think the other part of that is is ensuring that we know what the community wants the district to be doing so that when the new superintendent comes in we can say and this is who we are and what we were supposed to be doing instead of that person having to redefine and um reinvent themselves and the district all at one time okay so question could do the strategic planning with out hiring somebody can we do it within ourselves um I'm gonna say no I think it's good to have that outside party they have a it doesn't it doesn't have to be the asba I I do want to say that doesn't have to be there are other people that we could utilize but I think it's good to have a kind of a a non-partisan or non um a stakeholder yeah really driving that process because I think that that person could kind of steer things a certain way and where a um somebody that's not involved has doesn't have that stake in the in the game and it won't won't you buy us that way I'm someone that has experience with other school districts so again kind of like the 576 thousand dollars how much does the is it six six thousand six or seven years about a thousand to visit for six visits so in the grand scheme of things [Music] because we have to do this for this year and then I have to open another PL first we don't use yeah no I I'm glad you said that yeah it was just my just it was my thought just like the last time that we were in the meeting and I just was thinking I honestly going into that I didn't know it was gonna cost us money until I asked about it because I I didn't feel like maybe I wouldn't pay attention though which that could I don't think we learned how to shared it with you I know I talked to Cindy about it I don't know if I shared it with the whole board that was going to cost me yeah yeah charging something though so and I have a feeling and again don't know this that we're getting a pretty darn good right through asba instead of going to an outside consultant I don't know the answer about that yeah I just I can't answer that you're just presuming that going to a private contractor for patina Solutions 46 000 to 18 months with the bond for 40 million they needed passed so it was 46 000.

o'clock and Sunday here in the gym High School junior high awards ceremony promotion uh will be May the 17th at 2 o'clock in the afternoon in the auditorium May the 19th is the last half days any questions okay cool go through a little bit of the Wilson report all accounts are balanced and accurate if you have an opportunity to review all the crisis drills the lockout Lockheed lockdown reviews and before it was still a car here they were going to clock out for about 15 minutes because they didn't know what Microsoft at the chase or whatever so they were to block out for about 15 minutes um been a busy time with events finding substitutes of course has been challenging this time of year continue to work on committees curriculum technology crisis Committee in Kisa for my report the first was graduation Alliance you've got this uh downloaded here pack it there I've got some hard copies circulating if you'd like I guess the thing that I see the first visual that I see is the one here and there's active students in the state and if you look at the graduates of the state it's all over the state of Kansas including our area of course the urban areas are by far more represented uh we've had over 600 graduates the state of Kansas which to me that means economic growth the state have 600 people that now have their High School diplomas I think it's beneficial we have over 300 active students each month taking courses to graduate October seems to be the highest graduation month uh August January the highest enrollment months also in here there's marketing they do entrance interviews and exit interviews it's very interesting to listen to people that get their diploma and circumstances the way they had to get their diploma and what it means to them at this time I know and we take pictures you know capping a gown up there we take pictures with them and one lady come up and she brought her kids and her grandkids to be involved with her getting her picture of the promise of their a lot of great success stories and that if you'd like to read those uh we will change July 1. to the central plains diploma so that'll be a change a little bit as we go through that process we uh current on our Child Care Network we currently have raised 157 thousand dollars we still have sixty five thousand one hundred dollars in tax credits yet that we could that people can purchase as a donate toward this fund so that's available I've been thinking that if we hit 200 000 we might be able to process of what what we do for daycare uh here I'm looking at other grants I've talked to Patterson Family Foundation they currently did not have any open Grant periods but they're going to have some coming up they're interested in helping out there is a child care capacity accelerating Grant but we've made partner with uh Bartlett County Economic Development as they're going to write accelerated grant program for ABB with abcc which is advancing the Barton County Child Care and that will actually talk you to her next week to see what's available to help us accomplish our goals as a Child Care Network I would like to ask each board member to recommend one person to be on an Advisory board for our Child Care Network I feel like need to get something in place to help us develop this as we go through there so Beach Board member could recommend a person that has interests or wants to be involved with child care our district so they can feel that board and help advise and go through and make decisions as we developer in our district and we hopefully we can extend it to all of our sinners including Holly all of our tennis centers we have it even pushed it or wherever companion daycare we're going to talk about that have that advisory could help us as we go through that uh as you know last year we were paid for a line enrollment and we will be doing online enrollment this year it'll be a change but after a year I think it'll be appreciated and so forth and also we're going to be lucky that online payments probably bringing a proposal to the board on online payments that also will be proudly popular with parents uh because of the convenience it also it gives them using their students PowerSchool information in case of uncheck attendance and grades where they're there uh and so forth so that'll be available hopefully we'll get that in place and be ready to go uh probably toward the end of July like in a period of time and we will provide computers and support for people to learn also uh our technology met and that was one of the things we talked about is automatic enrollment and online payments um we have so many student devices setting right now that we do not have to purchase student devices for next year okay because we've purchased quite a few here that being said we're looking to put teachers devices on a rotation I will tell you I got all the years we have a lot of teachers that are still using devices that purchased in 2013 2013 must have been a popular year I don't know what it was but I went through a lot and they're all apples so we're talking about letting teachers choose between Apples or PC but the apples will probably have a longer period because cost is a little bit more but they last a little bit longer so their rotation will be available I just want to get into a rotation so you don't get hit with an excessive amount of money to replace it a bunch of laptops we also have a grant that we usually use for student devices this year we want to I'm going to look at teaching devices for teachers I know not everybody has Smart Boards some of those smart boards are not working they're having difficulties we're looking at maybe upgrade some of the teaching devices that we have with our grant this year our technology very happy with our security software big thing is schools are getting hit to go cyber attacks trying to get and they went pay Ransom to get to release you so worth it so really taking a lot of precautions with our security and doing a good job with that uh Camp intervention is a project that started in Ellsworth last year that we're currently planning on having a session in Wilson and one in a central plains Edition held in Hollywood this is a kind of a self-containing turnkey it's stem education for kids it's stem stands for science technology English advantal put together they won this is sponsored by the national inventors Hall of Fame uh we are looking for Gunners to provide scholarships to kids it's 260 dollars per student there are several funds that they've already collected and we have some donors that were looking at we're still trying to work out the details I talked to the Kerry Morton she is the one that is the director uh the curriculum and Wilson will be different than the one in central plains so there'll be two opportunities to do two different things and the times will be not the same uh I can see oh she had a really good turnout and those were the Ellsworth students may want to take advantage of the timelines let's say can the district will probably help with Transportation within our district for those camps but it's a week-long camp kids thinks of problem solving and so as creating problem solvers so I think it's a really good program for kids so we're just working on that trying to get more details because we'll work on that we're having questions from people thank you president I knew that the board it was executive session discuss teacher negotiations for the purpose of new noticing items for negotiations another exception of the employer employee negotiations under the komma and they we return Open Session and in the room 10 minutes good enough at 8 26.

superintendent Bill Murray attended motion by Josh in a second by Allison never say aye product Open Session there's no Act actually so do we have any board member reports they'll clarify like that house bill with uh going through the state about wherever I want lunch so that might be open Agenda items two as far as closing the building yeah it was printed with two other bills you have to get the number now 38 yeah three things with it besides that and uh it took a lot of stuff out of those three bills uh I believe it has to pass I think it did pass both houses wait for the Governor's security is it so it's an advisory opinion on building closure that's what that is thinking like really close your decision State Board of Education reduce it gives it advisory the final decision at us I what they've advised me it does not yes I read it but I need to get it back after January and last Saturday another question I had I got a picture today about a petition If This Were disorganized usd112 yes that petition has been circulated to install the district and if the devil legal voters registered voters signed that it'll go to a general election I have not two things I'm not sure about that bill has never is it just the next general election which as soon it was because it was in a special election somebody would have to be paid and they're not going to go spatial without somebody paid I think the way it reads is I think the way that it reads is that it has to be to be on a ballot where there's a School Board for lunch so it'd be the next general election because school boards now it's every two years so that's what it would be put to a boat if they had the signatures uh this is kind of a known territory to be honest with you it's also been circulated at the district also the same attorney so it may have been a general election because that far big enough signatures nobody knows because it hasn't been I don't even know if they even got that far in 1960 when it was last utilized what the result was uh state board will have to determine how to dissolve it if it's if it passes the technology which is a simple majority of assume what's the reasons somebody barely wants I mean I think that there's a couple different reasons why people are for it the not the NYE system most reasonable reason that I've heard is not we don't have students attending the district that will some patrons don't want to pay local taxes they want the tax dollars to follow their students but you ain't gonna have 100 because we don't have any questions else or Republicans apart it's not going to be 100 no matter what it's new yeah actually our our tax dollars don't cover what we give the state be honest with you anyway you know some school districts like the very wealthy school districts I think it so much more money than what they get from state aid that their their backpacks is actually going to distribute across the state to equalize that any other open agendas and for next month if you would answer three personnel and also uh negotiate police agreement I would entertain a motion to return so moved approached by Allison and second by Josh okay um

foreign red light is on welcome everyone um thank you for coming to our board meeting on April 11 2023 uh may we begin with interpretation instructions for Spanish-speaking audience thank you so much thank you interpretations thank you so thank you so much first on the agenda um is called to order I'd like to call the regular meeting of the Adams 14 Board of Education on Tuesday April 11 2023 to order 2020-23 I hope you all had a great spring break we're almost to the end here um of another school year so hang in there please join me as we stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence unfortunately our country has once again experienced gun violence in our schools here in Colorado and also in Tennessee I ask that we keep the victims students and staff at Denver East High School in the Covenant School in your thoughts this evening I pledge allegiance of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God and with liberty and justice foreign first on the agendas roll call Ramona can you please call roll Mr Amador here Ms Estrada here is Lovato Here Is Molina here miss Zubia here thank you um next on the agenda is approval of the minutes for the March 14th 2023 regular meeting may I have a motion so moved second Ramona real quick please I thank you and then last is approval the agenda may I have a motion to approve the agenda as presented motion to approve the agenda as presented I'll second who moved to oh hi Ms Estrada aye Ms Lovato aye Ms Molina aye Ms Zubia aye thank you next on the agenda is 3.1 April 2023 classified staff recognition one of my favorite parts of the evening uh Dr lodia would you please introduce the April uh winners that we're recognizing this evening absolutely Madam president members of the board community members um this is also one of my favorite parts of the board meetings where we are recognizing the efforts of Staff members that go above and beyond in that show day after day a great commitment to our students and they do it with a phenomenal sense of humor and attitude so today we're going to be recognizing three members they do get a uh 300 check in partnership with our one of our Founders and I just um Suncor thank you and we have Tony clocker is the first one who is the accounting clerk up to in the finance office is Tony here I thought I saw her before and also secretary from the Stars Early Learning Center not here and Mr clocker in unreal we do have some certificates here for them so we're going to make sure that they get them but Tony what they have to say actually and these are peers and people who work with them who nominate them Tony always goes above and beyond making sure our program has what it needs while staying within the District board policies Mrs clucker always responds promptly to emails or calls with such patience and grades for our district she's patient kind and her patience and kindness has always been present since my time here in Adams 14 and this is the person who is actually nominating her she takes the time to understand the swap contract to help support purchases and correct line item allocation never once in the seven years of partnering with Mrs clocker um she has ever seemed annoyed or angry at my questions or concerns Miss clucker is the biggest fan of our swap in transition students always the first to support our Enterprises she always knows the students by name and often remarks how amazing the students are doing at the coffee cart in this coffee cart our substudents they have a coffee shop a coffee card out here in the lobby so um quite often they come in here and that we are able to buy you know for a dollar coffee or tea or they sell snacks so it's quite fun Ms clocker knows I like to turn my P card in early so she grabs my UMB statement and emails me when when it arrives any request we have from the swap Department within reason and board policy responded and fixed immediately Mrs clocker is always aware of the changes in board policies forms and procedures and she not only protects our program but the district's Integrity as well for over the 20 years she's been on board so obviously uh very easy to deduct that it is the swap team nominating her for her for um her support to the team so we're going to make sure Ms clocker hears about this and also Anabel nades um is able to relay information and communication with staff students and families she has crucial she has been crucial during the universal preschool application process in answering questions from the families and guiding them through initial process the initial process Annabelle works with a team to plan or find solutions to challenges by sharing ideas or building upon others ideas she is one of the first to make viable suggestions that are efficient and ensure we have input from a variety of voices on the team she keeps a positive attitude and it's still able to bring moments of laughter throughout the busy day of the sea or season has the ability to make multitasking efforts appear seamless and is able to appropriately prioritize tasks she sees something that needs to be done in just does it without needing to be asked which is very much appreciated she wears many hats in our building and helps support the overall preschool program her experience in her role allows her to see the big picture of what we're working towards as well as thing as well as think through the details as well as see through the details that also need to be considered she has the trust of another of other team members to make sounds decisions for our students so once again going above and beyond committed and always with a smile because it gets busy and those miles sometimes just saves our little moments so thank you madam president for allowing me to bring this to classified employees forward for recognition thank you for bringing them forward and and telling us what their peers had to say about them that's I always learned so much about them about our amazing staff members um and since they're not here we don't get to take pictures but I get big pictures but we're going to tell them to come next time [Music] I would go and pick them up I'm gonna compare it honor to get what I needed and regardless she was always available and she has the nice effect taking her too so they I agree with everything that was said Thank You Annabelle and hopefully we'll see you again thank you is your mic your mic's not on directors and thank you to um all the other um classified staff that were nominated as well and thank you to miss clocker as well for all her work so thank you all right well thank you and um please extend our congratulations to them I will we have some um certificate yes uh next on the agenda we have uh item 3.2 we're recognizing The Substitute of the month um again would you please introduce our April 7th of the month um we don't know that he's able to be here either but um um so we started recognizing also substitutes actually there's a lot of um individuals and groups that we want to recognize Michael Sawyer I don't know if he is here um but uh one of the um groups that we want to acknowledge also for their hard work is the group of substitutes teachers uh this is this is hard work you just go in you never know what it's going to be there for you and they come in with a smile and then their faces uh willing to support our students Michael has been a substitute with us since August of 2021 so he started right after covid when we are quite frankly eating them the most he has primarily worked at Kearney Middle School in since 2022 and always great staff and with excitement and positive attitude about throughout the day as a long time substitute of atoms for teen school district we greatly appreciate his continued effort and dedication to the community it is clarified that he was not able to be in here but um actually you walk into Kearney middle school and you will see him pushing a little cart with tweets and uh going around actually we met him with his card of treats going around with this for the students and staff saying how handsome they look how beautiful they look just just being positive and giving kudos to people for just wearing a hair bow or something and that was the day that we were also cabinet members we're going to all the schools this time was Kearney we're bringing cookies for for the teachers for the staff for everybody really classified and certified just giving them um you know cabinet we all went as a group just telling them thank you for the hard work they do and so we were joking with him you know he beat us because in his card he had like apples and all kinds of things and we're here we come with just cookies right but um just speaks about how in our district we are looking forward to always recognizing the good things that are happening so we'll make sure that he gets also a certificate in in his little bonus awesome it made me think of a previous stint too I don't know if we're communicating to our substitutes there is still a 300 new substitute stipend that UNC and the Colorado Department of Education offer and it's basically you serve a day being a substitutes teacher so in addition to their efforts to go above and beyond I hope we're sharing that information I just had to check to make sure it's still available are still going yeah and just to add to that for every substitute out there listening or if you know of any substitute who is interested in becoming a teacher we are putting together programs for them through different universities and most recently one through reach University um that is we're able to a very low cost that we could even as a district pay in exchange of a commitment to stay with us two years after graduation for substitute teachers to become teachers so we our HR department is really working hard on building our own so part of you know besides bonuses you know we can also pay for your tuition so Mary's listening out there you may want to come come back and teach yes that's wonderful well we don't get to take any pictures ladies and gentlemen sorry yeah um yes again please pass on our congratulations to them and um it does take a special person to substitute not knowing what you're gonna run into or or the lives you're going to impact every day uh next on the agenda is 3.1 the autism acceptance of the month Proclamation oh I'm sorry 3.3 um secretary Zubia would you please read the proclamation yes Middle School instructional technology team welcome good evening Adams 14 Board of Education members we are the instructional technology committee at Adams City Middle School and we have a few specific requests from the Adams 14 Board of Education regarding student technology use first we would like to detail the issues that we have encountered related to students technology use currently there is no board policy around holding students or families accountable for technology misuse because of this lack of policy there is no way for the school to hold students and families accountable the cost of replacing broken equipment has fallen onto the school while many students are respectful with our technology and use it properly it's not always the case as such acms has now lost a high number of Chromebooks due to intentional damage this damage includes ripping off the keys scratching the screens breaking the computer in half throwing the computers in the toilet and other issues it's unsustainable to continue providing Chromebooks to students without an accountability system in place one of the Adam's 14 initiatives is to be fiscally responsible a lack of board policy holding students and families accountable for intentional technology damage goes against this initiative a possible solution to this problem would be to write board policy around student technology use most of the surrounding districts have policies in place that charge a fee when a student damages or loses a district-issued device other districts also offer Insurance programs to families to help cover the cost if a device is damaged or lost even the threat of having to pay or to replace a device is better than our current status quo this does not necessarily have to be a large sum of money but rather simply enough to demonstrate to students and families that it is unacceptable to purposely break technology that belongs to schools if writing board policy around holding students and families accountable to damage devices is out of the question our next request would be that the cost of replacing said devices should not fall to individual schools if it is the board of education's decision to not charge fees for damaged devices then the board and central office ESS should take the on that cost it is not fair to individual schools to tie their hands by not allowing us to charge fees while on the same stroke telling us that we have to pay to replace devices as of now students at acms do not have equal access to technology because all the costs have fallen onto acms we now have teachers signing out Chromebook carts when they need to use them however the system does not provide students with Equitable access to technology throughout their day in addition because of the Staffing crisis that has has adversely impacted acms half of our current stock of Chromebooks is reserved for the Elevate K-12 classes with testing season imminent computer access will be even more limited for in-person core content classes more importantly if we were trying to provide our students with the proper tools they need for the 21st century then each student should have access to Chromebooks throughout their entire day it is not Equitable when we consider keeping up with most other districts in the state it's also not Equitable among students within our district as the Chromebook systems and procedures differ from school to school we could very well have an elementary school student who struggled with handwriting but has adjusted to using technology to complete the written assignments move to their middle school and suddenly lose their I lose access to their one-to-one technology it creates inconsistency and if there is one thing we know in a district it's that our students Thrive with consistency each year please consider these requests as acms continues to provide our students with high quality education we want all our students to be College and Career ready by having equal access to technology respectively the acms instructional technology committee thank you so much uh next I would like to invite Aaliyah Acevedo up to the podium hi evening esteemed board members of atoms 14.

acknowledge that our city stands like almost all property in the United States on lands obtained generally in unconscionable ways from indigenous peoples The Taking of this land was formalized by the Treaty of Detroit in 1807 knowing where we live work study and recreate does not change the past but a thorough understanding of the ongoing consequences of this past can Empower us in our work to host is allowing you to speak when please or when speaking please move to a quiet area and mute any background noise so that we may hear you clearly and finally please state your name and address and at the beginning of your comments I don't have any hands raised but just going to give it a few seconds here okay um caller ending in one three four thank you Mr Lang and chair mursky this is Ken Garber 28 Haverhill Court calling about the gas ban ordinance resolution the Planning Commission which was taking the lead has given up on the ordinance at least for now it was last discussed there in December the commission chair has cited lawsuit threats as a reason to step back but there's only been one threat I've seen from lawyers for the Home Builders Association of Michigan or hbam hbm also threatened the state of Michigan over its state energy code revision this is a very backwards looking organization which has sued the state before and lost and which our local Builders split off from several years ago hbm's lawyers shouldn't be dictating City policy I mean did we really think that we could meaningfully reduce the city's missions without antagonizing companies invested in the status quo change doesn't work that way the a20 plan three years in is failing in plain view because it's coming up against forces that are determined to resist real change that includes the construction industry and most developers and DTE Energy but the answer is not to back down over 90 cities and Counties have now restricted gas and new construction there have been a few lawsuits but those cities are holding firm 830 did have a strategy the state would pass the 2021 iecc zero codependence that didn't happen predictably I would say and we wasted three years while approving 22 separate gas burning developments then we got the gas ban ordinance and presumably there was some legal basis for putting that forward but we quickly caved to hvam and DTE on that there is no plan C that I can see the heat franchise discussion has nothing to do with this I don't see ending new gas connections on the list of ideas for tonight and even if it were it would happen too late every two to four weeks we're faced with another gas burning project tomorrow the design review board will consider the course basis project on William 16 stories 230 000 square feet gas heat apparently this building alone will put 1 580 metric tons CO2 equivalent emissions each year into the atmosphere from burning gas in two weeks or a month it'll be something else this is madness we can't be locking in new fossil fuel infrastructure for decades to come 30 seconds yeah so please approve the resolution tonight we need to send the most forceful message possible as fast as possible even consider removing the second resolve clause it's carefully worded but no matter how it's worded I fear it will be an excuse to ignore the first resolve cause the ordinance itself I think this is already happening thank you for your comments thank you um we have one more caller ending in two to eight hello can you hear me yep yes awesome thank you my name is Greg Woodring I'm president of Ann Arbor for Public Power ing in for one to also uh and full heartedly endorse passing the recommendation on the gas ban ordinance uh as uh the previous speaker fantastically put it it's absolutely impairment that we move on Banning these gas connections well uh renegotiating the gas franchise agreement with DTE is prudent and uh just good governance absolutely should be done and we should get every concession we can uh we can't continue to continue to allow these gas burning buildings if we ever want to reach our climate goals it's simply locking in costs that we're going to have to pay and pay off later um but I also wanted to call in to just raise attention to the fact that we are moving into budgetary uh season uh the feasibility study on municipalization that this commission uh recommended back in December of 21 and was approved in January of 22 by city council uh will be finishing here in June uh however we are looking to approve a budget in May for the city uh just a reminder on the timeline for uh moving forward with municipalization should the city choose to do so the next step after this feasibility study would be to get a heart valuation of phase two feasibility study uh which would tell us more directly what the actual cost of BT's assets would be and would help the city in legal processes during the acquisition while we may do not know currently if the city wants to move forward with municipalization and certainly the results of the feasibility study will inform that it seems prudent to at least entertain the idea that the results may be positive enough for the city to want to move forward with municipalization and given that uh issues uh P2 is recommending that the city put a budgetary placeholder in for the study of half a million dollars to uh be prepared in an event that the city wants to move forward with that that way we don't need to worry about moving around funding or figuring out where it's going to be cut from if we decide to fund such a study uh throughout the rest of the year um so just wanted to put that on everyone's radar if you are interested in more 30 seconds so process looks like and what next steps would be I encourage you to reach out to Ann Arbor publicpower gmail.com we'd be happy to set up time to talk you through it also the um July 2021 energy commission meeting Chris bizdoc was in attendance it's still on YouTube and he's a energy lawyer from Traverse City that laid it out very well is very informative I would recommend that you all give it a look so thank you very much for your time looking forward to a great meeting thank you thank you yes uh no more callers okay good I think we'll go ahead and move on then uh we're now in the body of the meeting um and the first point on the agenda is a presentation about um an Ann Arbor heating franchise discussion or our gas franchise and we are honored to have Missy Stoltz present to us tonight everybody forgive me hi it's good to see you all thank you for the opportunity to be here uh I don't feel fabulous and my voice is probably gonna go so I'm sorry but I'm gonna I'm gonna do my best uh I'm really excited to be here today you are the first in our public engagement process I'm gonna share my screen here in just a second and so as you know city council authorized the administrator to begin exploring a new uh heating franchise and you are the first stakeholder group that we want to talk to and got just a few slides and I want to walk through for today just want to share a little bit about what a franchise is as well as what a franchise is not a little bit of background about what we've been doing and then I want to kick it over just to a listening session so we want to hear from you your ideas and I have some initial kind of thoughts just they're really nothing more than just kind of conversation starters to get your head thinking about the kinds of variables you may uh want to give feedback on and then I'm going to end with next steps and of course there's lots of ways to engage in this process so don't worry if you didn't get a chance to look at the agenda until right now and weren't prepared for this conversation that's okay uh we we will have lots of opportunity for your feedback so let me start by sharing what a franchise is some of you may know this but a franchise is a contract between a local unit of government Marcus the city and a utility and that franchise really covers governs two things it governs the use of the public rights of way right our streets think where um someone like Comcast or dtecas might lay pipes or their infrastructure it governs how what they do what kind of quality they have to return infrastructure to the kinds of communications that may take place between the city and that utility kind of all elements about the use of that public rights of way and the second thing in Michigan that a franchise does is it sets the conditions under which that company doesn't have to be utility but that company May for a set period of time provide that specific service right so one governs use of Rights of ways the other governments kind of if you will the way they operate in the community and we've also seen in recent years franchises have included some additional terms including in places like Chicago Salt Lake City and San Diego where they've successfully Advanced affordability equity and clean energy goals via their franchises or via Associated agreements afternoon excuse me often known as City utility Partnerships which come out of franchise negotiations thanks y'all and you can find more about this on our website but I do want to take a moment and I'm not going to go through this image many of you know this but for those who don't and for our viewers the guest system is actually quite complicated it's not as simple as we get gas out of the system we move it through pipes and instantly it's in your home there's actually a lot that goes in to natural gas use in a home or in a business all the way from kind of the production side of things where we're drilling we have to do separation within that system we have to refine the materials that are coming out and that can take lots of different forms depending on the specific gas and where we get it from there's of course the transmission system and then there's our distribution system let alone uh the point of use in our homes or businesses and what this means is one is complicated but two there's actually a lot of energy that goes into this process to extract energy and there's a lot of opportunity for the system to be inefficient and we've learned more and more over the last several years about methane leakages as an example and of course I should I should not take this for granted natural gas is primarily methane right so there's an incredibly potent greenhouse gas up to 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide as it's released into the atmosphere and so any leakage of methane through this system is really significant in terms of our clinicals and objectives so I just want to share that this is important for us as we're looking at how we get our homes in a safe healthy and affordable way and of course we've got our climate goals and so we want to understand how we can minimize both the impacts in terms of climate from the way that we heat our homes and the impacts on you know family issues like pocketbook uh issues that people are facing as our energy process arising so just a little history here about Ann Arbor seating franchise our last eating franchise was adopted in 1997.

we'll start now we'll begin with the Pledge of Allegiance and I forgot to ask anybody so I'm going to lead the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all all right Dr Ray we have some recognition Awards and some um some just overall recognition for some different groups in the school and turn the time over to you for that absolutely thank you we'll start we want to recognize our Fine Arts programs and we have a couple of performances um Dr D if you could introduce your group and if Ms only is here can introduce hers and then we'll turn the time over to you thank you thank you Dr Wright um I'm informed for our school board and parents that are in attendance it means a lot so this year our students went beyond shining at our local large group Festival all our high school groups we call it as clean sweep because we all got superiors so that would include the band under direction of Miss Olney the mixed choir to the direction of Mr bloomstrand he's back there he's our sound guy and then harmonies and sprezas and the orchestra the chain Orchestra everybody took the superior I do want to give special acknowledgment to my sprezas they were the first group to perform at Festival and absolutely blew the judges away Harmony stick too but in our groups but they are the first group I think that anybody is aware of that got a hundred percent and especially at first group in the morning it was an incredible so we're all still like this about it so um our Junior High groups did fabulously we only missed superiors by one or two points and that would be the choir and my Orchestra because you yeah anyways um so we're just really proud of everybody I do want to throw a quick out hoodoo out there we've got a concert coming a couple concerts coming up our Junior High Elementary concert is on the 3rd of May and then our high school concert is on May 8th which is a Monday and we're really looking forward to those because the kids her it's the Fun concert where they can have fun with the music and it's more upbeat things so what we'd like to do we have two groups to perform for you today first we're going to have the band they're going to be performing a highlight of Phantom of the Opera which they'll be playing at our showcase concert so I'll turn it over to John okay as Dr D said we will be performing just a little snippet of Phantom of the Opera we wanted to play all of it but we're missing a lot of kids due to softball right now so we're making it work with what we've got um we hope you enjoy [Music] hahaha [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] thank you to our band and to miss only so you're going to go from here to looking over there so if I can have the cast this is a cast from Footloose our production starts the last weekend of February Thursday Friday Saturday so I believe it's a 27th 28th and 29th and then the following weekend May 4th 5th and 6th all shows are at 7 pm except the very last show that Saturday will be a matinee at 2PM so we just thought we'd give you a little tip to get you going so we can get you there so I hope the board can see them over there and everybody can foreign and that's all you get so if you want to see the rest come and see the show it's five dollars a ticket no matter who you are cheaper than a movie and then you can go eat dinner after so once again thank you so much for having us thank you Dr Wright for inviting us and see you at the show [Applause] before you all leave I I got to say I can speak for the board and saying we're extremely proud of the fine arts program that we have here at Blue Ridge town I think I think there was a time when we couldn't say that we were a little embarrassed but not anymore we're extremely proud of what's going on here and thank you so much for the time and the effort and all the diligence you put into that thank you so much another round of applause it's all of them [Music] there she is you know I I heard there's a rumor floating around that Kevin Bacon is actually going to come and watch this I'll do that next we're going to go ahead and recognize our foreign exchange students Marnie Harris has a presentation thank you can you hear me okay all right if my kids would come up here please that makes brings me tears for 19 years I've had the privilege of being the international coordinator for aspect Foundation I did that when I was the counseling department chair and I've done it for nine years since I retired every year I'm so blessed right they're gonna be emotional this might be the last year that I'm doing this as the international coordinator I may be looking for someone to take my place but in the interim I'm so proud of these girls and boys that have come here and they've been so blessed with the families that have decided to host them so we're introducing I'll have them introduce themselves but we've got um we've got frederique from Norway and we've got Theo I mean Frederick from the Netherlands Thea from Norway and um Vittorio from you know from Italy and it's Mrs Brimhall has decided he's the Italian Stallion she nicknamed him that within about three days of meeting them so I'd like him to step forward I'm going to have Frederick come first she'll explain you know talk about where she's from introduce her host family and then she'll talk a little bit about classes that she's taken and what has been most meaningful to her having the privilege and opportunity to be here at Blue Ridge then we'll have Thea speak and then we'll have fito speak so come on for okay guess I have the honor of going first okay it feels a bit weird sending this way but okay so I've had the honor to live with the Atkinsons and I'll introduce oh I'm free to read by the way okay so that's my host Family come on over people okay we have the beautiful Hattie she's my little host sister and then we have Anna Joe who's my other host sister also beautiful and then we have my host mom Ashen Atkinson and then Rowdy that's my host father I guess and he couldn't be here because he's a pharmacist but he would have loved to be here too and then I have two older host Brothers but there they don't live with us but still really cool okay I guess you can sit down but I'm really grateful for you give me a hand [Music] okay I love them okay so a little bit about me I am Friedrich I love to talk so if I go on my own I'll stop okay so I came here nine months ago I think which means that I'm Gonna Leave in one month which is really sad because I've had a great time here and I'm so grateful that I got to come here because it is awesome here I love the nature here I love the people everyone's so nice and I don't know I'm sure there's some people out there who don't like it here but I love a hair and people are just so amazing and I think that's the thing that I love the most the people but I've had the opportunity of following some great classes here at Blue Ridge like let's see apu's history and AP English and sprezas and theater thingy where I was just in and I've done soccer here I've been in display where we've been working on for months which is gonna be awesome and to wrap it up it's a great time here and I'm so grateful that you guys let me come here thank you [Applause] okay I'm Thea I'm from Norway on the west coast and that's my host family if you want to come up I'm staying with the flakes so this is Casey flake my host mom and Derek flake this is Canon cubby Coleman and then we have Cooper but he said baseball in that's my whole family [Applause] and my classes I've done a lot of stuff I've done Sports Med and AP English biology right now I'm taking both Financial algebra and contemporary math and it's really fun I really like the classes here and sports I'm doing track and field right now and I'm in the sports med club and I did off-season and preseason track so oh yeah in track I do Javelin and discus so that's very exciting I did that in Norway too so it's really fun to get the opportunity to do that here too because the school spirit and the mascot and all the track is very different so I'm very grateful for getting that experience so that's been very fun yeah I'm coming in from which was really fun because we don't have those so I'm really really excited or it was really exciting and really really fun and a really great for that and thank you very much for letting me come here I've been a really really fun experience and I do not want to leave it's very scary that it's only one month left but thank you very much hello I'm Vito uh my name is Vittorio but I go from veto here because it's too complicated um my I'm staying with the Brimhall so the brimos are my host family I have four siblings and unfortunately three of those are in college said they don't get to be here today and my host parents are Ian Brimhall and Jennifer Brimhall that lovely lady over there um yeah I love being here and this is my first time in the United States so I was not sure what to what to expect but I'm loving it uh there's there's all differences in school and in sports uh but I'm I'm enjoying it I did soccer then I tried basketball for my first time in my life uh I was sitting in bench but it was still fun um and then I'm doing track as you guys can see right now um I'm a long jumper so every time I have to practice I'm covering in sand um but but yeah I'm loving here I had a lot of like new experience and stuff that I would not experience for not coming here so I thank you very much for letting me come um I had I had prom and I had a homecoming and I was so lucky that my host family brought me so on so many trips we went to Las Vegas that was pretty fun um but yeah oh yeah we have been to California I've been in Disneyland that was really fun uh I'm usually kind of scared about rides but it was still fun um oh yeah um I'm sorry but I don't like the pizza here uh yeah they they fed me a lot of pizzas different pizzas and but yeah I'm kind of picky on that I'm sorry but yeah oh yeah I forgot about that I I when I came here I was gonna be I was kind of scared to come all the way on the other side of the world so I decided to stay for the semester so I was I was living in December right before Christmas but then I just I just loved it so much I loved my host family and I loved the place and the people that are so nice and kind and so I decided to say this whole year and I kind of grateful for Mrs Harris for doing all the paperwork and my host family too but I was able to extend my my period here and I stay the whole entire year so that was that was cool I didn't ask I don't have a question just to comment we're lucky to have you thank you thank you for bringing your culture here and and integrating into our culture I think it's awesome we didn't know you were exchange students because you just fit right in think that when the students apply for asper foundation to be an exchange student they fill out about a 35 page application that I receive once they're vetted and so it's not it's quite a process for for a student to be selected and so I think you know they are excellent ambassadors for themselves for their own families for their country and I think they've done a great job of appreciating what we've been able to offer them so I thank you all of you for allowing this program to be in place it's been wonderful for us Marty were any of them shy at the beginning at all because they're certainly not now very outgoing outgoing great Italian guy nobody remembers this name they just go a good time yeah thank you we'll now have our BR star for our students of the month or be our students of the month rather and we'll start with the elementary school with Mr Grace then we'll go to Ms Hoffmeyer and then Mr Webb in that order will proceed as such thank you Mr Grace thank you um it is an honor to be able to present our student of the month to Kendall and Cox and we have her teacher Miss catalesi up to say a few words about her [Applause] kennelyn has never said a word to me so if she says something it will be amazing I assure you congratulations I'm thrilled to be here to honor Miss Kendall and she is she checks all the marks for a good human and a good student and she's just a great kid she's outgoing to me not to many other people but I get to see all the good stuff that she offers her classmates in our school She's trustworthy and just works her little tail off and I'm super proud of her so congratulations sweetheart [Applause] if I could have Paige Wieland come forward please I actually had to condense things that her teachers said about her so that it wouldn't take too much time to read because they said so many wonderful things about her um so I'm going to give you that let me read a few things that that Pages teachers said about her Paige is a wonderful student in PE class she's always willing to help if needed her positive outlook always makes me smile Paige is willing to volunteer to take charge and is a good leader and that I will say is in every Arena of the junior high she leads everywhere Paige is open to suggestions on how to better herself in whatever we are engaged in doing I'm so happy that Paige not only desires to do right in her own personal growth in academics but also in growth in her well-being and fitness page epitomizes the spirit of a br student she is not afraid of showing her BR Style on spirit days I really need to bring a picture that I should show a picture she is she is BR all the way for that I oh sorry she is and is only one of the only ones brave enough to do Friday announcements and is always positive and uplifting to everyone Paige is the most spirited of all pert from purple and gold tutus to dressing like Princess Fiona during our Shrek week that was amazing page can be counted on to participate and motivate her peers and finally Paige works hard to be a model student and classmate she's reliable and her joyful attitude toward learning is contagious um she is an an exemplary student an exemplary leader we are super lucky to have her on our campus congratulations all right if I could have Stephen Haws come on up Steven Halls is being recognized as student of the month for the high school so as he's uh walking up here I'll uh hand him his award congratulations Stephen let me uh read what was written about you for nominating you for the student of the month so Stephen Haws is being recognized for student of the month at the high school for his dedication grit and tenacity and is overwhelmingly positive attitude on how he approaches everything whether it's a buzzer beater in a basketball game or a nail biting finish at the end of an amazing race or as consistent work on his college and honors level classes that he takes you know you will be getting the very best that Stephen has to offer and you will always see him with his huge smile on his face he has also been recognized as a finalist in the AIA scholar athlete in all of the State of Arizona at the upcoming Gala of Champions so we're happy to send him down to the valley for that we're super proud of Stephen and all of his accomplishments and hard work so well deserved he's a great student and I've known Stephen for years and he's an exemplary model of what we want here at Blue Ridge High School and throughout the district so congratulations [Applause] thank you I think Stephen made a three-quarter shot court shot on his birthday right help us beat sholo that team down the road not a boy good job Steve I would just like to say these children are reflections of their parents I know their parents and their parents have done an excellent job raising these kids and I think when a kid earns a ward like this when a child earns an award like this I think it's a direct reflection on the parent and we're grateful to have that kind of people in our community thank you so much Dr Wright thank you we'll now go on to our our be our Star Award Denise Hall will uh make a presentation I don't know if Richard is able to be here tonight but she'll still make a few remarks about our BR star recipient our bus driver from transportation department Richard Young with the girls softball so please excuse him Rick is absolutely a valued employee that we have at the transportation it comes to us from Show Low as our trip bus driver and sub driver honors but sped buses Rick is always willing to do anything I ask him to do he'll always be the first one to volunteer and everyone that he drives four Falls absolutely head over heels for him he's very kind and he watches over his group that he drives for he drives long hours and still sits and supports the team that he takes I haven't heard one complaint out of him and Rick truly is one of our many assets and our student Transporters thank you thank you I saw Richard in the stands yesterday cheering on the girls at the home game against White River he's he's an impressive person our April be our teacher of the month Ms Hoffmeyer would you make a presentation to our Mr Green Wade our recipient this month yes Mr Green Wade just returned a couple weeks ago from a Washington DC trip in which he and Miss Williford took about 30 kids um on a tour of Washington DC they left at 1 30 in the morning met at one o'clock in the morning drove to Phoenix hopped on a plane spent three days in Washington D.C and then came back and returned at 2 30 in the morning I think on Thursday four o'clock so whirlwind trip but he gets so excited about these trips and we're excited to be working with um I think in 2025 start offering them year yearly to our eighth grade students so it's such a great opportunity for all of our kids but not only that Mr Mr Greenway teaches math and does a fantastic job with his math program but also teaches Robotics and the kids love that program we have he offers up robotics during lunchtime recesses any day he's not on duty so that the kids can come in and just play and explore in that class one of my favorite things about Mr Green Wade is I always know when he has a great idea for something he wants to try because his beaming smile when he's coming up with a with a great idea and wants to share it it is it's a contagious Smile everybody gets excited about the things that he is doing so we love having him on campus he's such a team team player a great teacher and a supporter of Blue Ridge so thank you chaperoning 30 Junior High kids to Washington D.C you deserve a medal Mr Green wait that's amazing that's a lot of hours bless you want to have a presentation of our college and and University going recently over the last couple years Mr Webb will give that to us to thank Mrs Penrod and our counseling department for putting together this presentation it's when we in the year we ask the students what their plans are After High School and a lot of times they'll be able to carry through with those plans sometimes those plans change it even as we are in our adult years plans change all the time so some of the things that we have are listed from when we gathered information at the end of the year when they graduated some of it is updated so but it's just a general idea of where we are with our students and and their paths After High School so first one that we want to note there is we in from 2020 and 2021 we had two students that were placed at West Point on the Air Force Academy huge huge accomplishment for such a small district and and have that back-to-back years was was really great and it's something that those students worked hard for all throughout their their high school years and they had a lot of guidance along way and the class of 2022 you can see listed there some of the higher what more well-known universities we had somebody at Brown University Stanford University Baylor we actually had a couple kids go down to University of Hawaii um we and then you see some of the Yen State University kids University of Arizona NAU ASU the another one the Colorado School of Minds on was interesting and I think he's doing great there some of the other out-of-state universities that our students have gone to BYU and you can see them listed there going back to the it's interesting how many students end up at Northern Arizona University trying to understand the the Dynamics of it I think a lot of the kids maybe feel the connection with the environment that we have here and what's up at NAU and a lot of it also is with the Lumberjack scholarship a lot of our students qualify for that Lumberjack Squad scholarship where they're able to have their tuition paid for so I know a lot of our students that end up going to NAU qualify for that scholarship so that's a great incentive for those students um quite a few students are and we're seeing this trend pick up where students are going seeing GCU as an opportunity for theirs their After High School path and when that whenever we do a trip down to GC the kids really enjoy seeing their campus and and any of the the ones that we've done they really enjoy that experience some of the junior colleges we have obviously MPC is going to be a um one of the bigger ones that we go we have our students go to and I think that number is actually higher than what's reflected that was what was listed on the the chart but we have some students who weren't able to make connection with and I know that more students actually end up going to MPC instead of their that maybe they weren't able to to see their University plans take shape and so we're we're seeing some of those students take that path at MPC to start their college and university experience hopefully with some of the things that NPC is offering with being able to bring in four-year degree programs we're going to be able to see some more of our students to be able to stay here at a cheaper maybe live at home and be able to get their college degrees with those programs and then some of the other community colleges that our students have gone on to um here in last year we had five which is a pretty high number that joined the Marine Corps one that ended up going the Army and then another one into Air Force so as of this point it's still early in the game these are some of the ones that we know of already where students have been accepted and and are committing to go to these universities it's so incredible here we have you know a school of 680 650 kids wherever we fluctuate and we and we're sending kids out to these well-known universities and these programs that it's so competitive to get into I mean where you have a three percent acceptance rate to get into those colleges and and universities and we have our students that are doing so well there so Berkeley California Berkeley is one an example the Cornell to have two students there one of the students was receiving a full ride scholarship for the four years of being able to go to Cornell um university of Chapel Hill North Carolina same thing having a full ride for actually beyond the four years the students actually having a gap year but is able to have that Gap year paid and she's going to go to South Korea do some experience there and then start up at UNC um super excited about that and we see and these students that that are are going to these these top division Schools they're so involved within the school and they're being recognized with rotary club and and all these other different scholarships that are helping them in their path along the way and then we see some other choices that like the University of Kentucky we have somebody that's going to be going there that's probably going to be a merit scholar as a very good chance that we'll be a merit scholar winner she's already a finalist so we're waiting to see what's going to happen there so our students are taking advantage of what's out there and are are being successful at it so far this is the junior college status that we know where kids are going to be going we'll see that number for NPC increase we Al also what's helping with that number that we have quite a few kids that are involved in the Nava program and they only have a couple more classes that they need to take to whether they're going to get their Nursing degree or then they'll they'll finish that outside of high school and then continue and then be able to to move on into a higher degree so we're super grateful for that path that we've established with NPC and they're working with us on that one of our soccer players is going to be playing soccer at MCC so she's she's going to represent her as well there here's so far what we know of we have two that have committed to going to the Army one into the Air Force and I think these are going to change as we get closer to the end of the year and then some of the other technical institutes we have one student we and I think there's probably could be at least four or five that could qualify from Mr fenstermaker's auto program that could go into the UTI it's a great program one of the kids that got a scholarship uh to go into their their Institute and so he this is somebody who maybe not be College University bound but has a path to further his education and do something that he loves and he loves that auto program so we're going to see great things from him at this point it's in so in 2022 this the amount that we and this is like a ballpark that's not exact although you get down to 28 cents it seems like it's exact so this was the number that we have where students had reported to us of scholarships that they have applied for they may have had different offers from different universities but then they chose to go to one University where maybe that scholarship wouldn't apply to them but we wanted to include that full number because it gives a big picture of what those students have worked for and and the Merit of what they've earned and has achieved so it's a pretty pretty big amount of money that our our students are are being able to help them in the next phase of their life so up to this point just knowing the ones of the colleges that we have were already up to 2 million in those offers and I'm sure that number yeah I'm pause that number will grow so hopefully by the end of this this school year we'll have an updated presentation to give you and we can give you some more numbers but we are very excited for our kids and what they do after high school and even what they're doing in high school already on their college path and and I thank the board for the support in allowing us to have the dual enrollment the CTE classes the work the partnership with Talon and NPC to allow these kids to have trade to follow a trade follow their their four-year degrees whatever they want to do they get that broad experience here so thank you any questions up there so I know it's going to be adding up fast well I know but this is another girl that got up um that I know that got a full ride academic full-right academic and full ride track double at Abilene Christian so that added on to that is something to change too yeah four years it's a lot of money all right thank you Dr Wright thank you everyone that participated up to this point the next item on the agenda is a presentation of the audit report and at the at the end of this presentation we have to vote but it's a roll call vote so I'll call your name and you can say yay or nay and when we do that so snugged out good evening governor for president governor we're members so I'm here to present the FY 22 audit so this is last year not the Year we're in but the year before so we're going back in time of year before I was here um those books were audited so uh it's part of state law that we um present the audit to you for your acceptance um heinfeld nietzsch does the audit you accept it um hopefully um and uh they do three audits for us they do a financial audit they do a single audit and that single audit is on our federal programs and you only need to get that audit if you get over 750 000 in federal program money which we get a lot more than that so we do get a single audit and then um they do a usfr audit compliance questionnaire and that's just a list of questions and they either answer yes or no on those questions so great news we received an unmodified opinion which is the opinion that you want to get from your Auditors so it's not a statement of perfection like it says but it's just a statement of we did a great job they're happy with us and uh we get to keep them rolling so they um audited our two Federal programs there's a mistake up there that should say impact Aid so they auditor impact a program and our education stabilization fund you will never see that education stabilization fund again that was a program that was um through Governor ducey's office during covid and it was just one-time money that he had given out during his tenure as Governor during covid we did have a finding um for our reconciliation that was Prior that didn't happen prior to when I got here we have rectified that it's totally fixed and the Auditors are happy with our resolution um the there was some um findings were noted in the usfr this is common the usfr is a long checklist of items that they go through um from transportation to student um accounts to technology to the finances it's a whole big long list of questions and they're either yes or no and just to give you a picture of how this works they pull a sample let's say 20 items let's say they pull 20 journal entries right they look at only those 20 journal entries and you either have them perfect or you don't so it's either a yes or a no on that usfr finding and that's in your backup information and we did fine it there was no nothing um that I felt like was um egregious or anything like that our biggest findings were in student attendance on the usfr which is normal there's a lot of working parts when it comes to student attendance it's very intricate so that's not surprising that we would have the most findings in that that's normal are there any questions we like it when you're happy I'm very happy um so it is a roll call vote and you're just um voting on accepting accepting how to find the audit okay poor acceptance would be yay for non-acceptance would be an A okay so a yay for me David Merrill Margaret Gabby yay Jennifer bimhall Diana Butler Chuck Waldo yay yay it's all done thank you Kimberly okay the next item on the agenda is the uh consent agenda items 2.1 through 2.8 in reviewing your agenda board members are there any items that you would like to bring out and recognize independently go not independently or just keep it together personally I would like to go over 2.5 just to list the names of those that are retiring and perhaps returning to teach this next year uh 2.5 oh tonight yep 2.7 is what we want to no 2.6 you would like 2.7 I'm sorry I'm getting confused so you like 2.7 I'd like 2.5 so I don't know yeah are the out-of-state people here so 2.8 which would be recommendation to prove out of state travel request for Denise Hall and Justin Bernardo so I would like to make a motion to accept item 2.5 and 2.7 have a second from Diana all in favor right for a separate vote I'm sorry okay that looked unanimous thank you okay so the items on the consent agenda with the exception of 2.5 and 2.7 and I have a motion to accept those items I'm a segment from Chuck all in favor okay okay item 2.5 recommendation to approve the retirement of the following employees Dr Wright I'd just like to list and recognize them for the years that they've done and perhaps if they're coming back sure we you bet the two that we have that are coming back that are listed are Mr Peterson and Mr rice and they'll be returning after they retire from Mr rice in 2024 and also Mr Peterson of for those 24 25 school year and the others we have a couple here the shimmels are retiring and really retiring they're here they've been with us a long time Greg is not here he's also retiring and then Jackie Densmore has been with us for about seven years Michelle Gannon who's been with us about 10 or 11 years and Doris Murphy has been a custodian here for quite a while as well and they're all retiring sad to see you go jimbles they're my neighbors so I can say that no that's a mean it doesn't mean I'm sad to see you staying at home more you know because you're great neighbors but uh you've been a big influence in this school district so thank you for what you've done all of these have been big interests I mean these are these are common names when you think Blue Ridge uses the names you think of so thank you for your service so can we have a recommendation to approve the retirement of the following employees chuck and a second from Diana all in favor all right thank you item 2.7 recommendation to approve teacher retention bonuses salary increases for two thousand twenty three two thousand twenty four school year Dr right you want to just explain that sure each year by Statute we're supposed to receive about two percent to our base level support from the state we anticipate that happening but it's never guaranteed especially in Arizona with Arizona school funding it's right down to the wire we are fairly confident that they're going to make good on that and the two percent increase for our teachers is about the exact amount of money we get from the state they're anticipating the two per the two thousand dollars that we're getting a retention bonus will come from our remaining Esser funds that must be spent out by September of 24.

Unit School District Board of Education meeting for April 11 2023 can I have a roll call please Mr Cerrone hi Mr Gatewood president Miss Johnson president Mr ploker present present Miss Swanson also here 3.2 Pledge of Allegiance it will all stand please I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God nope okay so we're passing 4.1 public comment there are no public comments okay item 5.1 is the annual Human Resources reported as part of our strategic plan envision 308. tonight we have Mr Miller here to present to the board so Ken when you're ready the floor is yours foreign good evening and thank you it's great to be able to talk with you this evening about the HR department's accomplishments in the division 308 plan this year while there's no uh quadrant in The Envision three-way plan that's specifically oh thank you thank you all right is this better yes okay perfect thank you perfect so it's great to be able to talk with you this evening about the HR department's accomplishments in The Envision 308 plan this year while there's no quadrant that's specific to human resources in The Envision 308 plan tonight we'll be discussing our accomplishments and recruiting and retaining a high quality and diverse staff and also exploring ways to increase private and grant funding so with respect to recruiting and retaining a high quality and diverse staff the human resources department has two goals in Envision 308 the first being to reduce discretionary turnover by 10 compared to 2020 2021 in all categories and number two to ensure that the demographics of our newly hired teachers and administrators reflect the demographic makeup of those awarded Bachelors or master's degrees in educations from in-state institutions of higher ed as documented by the Illinois Board of higher education with respect to exploring ways to increase private and grant funding we have one goal and that's to increase revenue from private and Grant funds to complement and add to the district's financial position so tonight what I'd like to present to the board as far as questions go is how are we doing with respect to meeting these goals what did we accomplish as compared to what we said we'd accomplish when we talked this time last year what are we going to be doing to further our efforts for next year and how does this work tie into other components of the Envision 308 plan so to answer the question of how we're doing with respect to meeting our goals for discretionary turnover I'm pleased to inform both the board and the community that year to date discretionary turnover meaning July 1st through March 21st is down between 30 and 39 percent for oea oespa ocma and OTA covered employees compared to the same time period during the 2122 school year now while our turnover is slightly elevated compared to the same time period in 2021 I do believe that some of our more recent accomplishments that we'll get to in a bit will help address the discretionary turnover that occurs during the summer and help keep those numbers down when we look at the year in totality now with respect to how we're doing with ensuring that the demographics of our newly hired teachers and administrators reflect those that have earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education the answer remains to be seen I'd like to inform the board that prior to the deadline for this report I did reach out to the Illinois Board of higher education to find out when the 2122 degree data would be issued and was told that it would likely be finalized in a couple of weeks I'm hopeful that this data will be ready to go very soon and I'm looking forward to providing that information to Dr sparlin so he can update the board as soon as possible what I can answer with respect to that though is that the diversity of our teaching staff has increased year over year with that said our efforts were not as successful though with respect to administrators and our hires for administrators for 2223 were slightly less diverse than they were in 2021.
