responding to any criticism or scheduling a matter for future consideration and see they have three people to make public comments and the first one would be Mr Duck Song he's right here is good that works uh tonight and I teach a variety of classes AP composition English one two three four Communications and Fitness I'm also the Jalen coordinator softball coach and always basketball coach this year and that engineer I will be signing a full-time contract for this upcoming year he just wanted to make that announcement to all you guys at the same time we're open to 0.5 type of contracts for a variety we each have our own reasons on why we do not want to work full time but we also want to keep the door open uh if if other positions or part-time positions uh would become available we've enjoyed our our year here I'm also open we're not leaving we bought at home and we're here this we we're here in Iowa we will join our time here and we really evaluate with the kids this year um so again just kind of to reiterate that and I'm certainly open to continue potential coaching and a potential coordinator positions or whatever a potential benefits um we wish you all nothing about the best and we wish this community nothing but the best and again we're not going anywhere we're here and so it kind of put the ball on your guys's court if you know the 45 is something that is of Interest yes okay thank you guys very much thank you okay next I have Julianne my name is Julianne and I'm the parent of a Pre-K student I'm here to address a need I see in school and propose a solution we know our school has given limited funds each year because there are small size of student population refunds however our school has an amazing to keep the extracurricular activities going even with limited resources we know the amenities here though are getting old it takes a lot of fun and we'd like to create an athletic booster club to support the athletic program with the school so we'll be creating a separate organization from the school and hopefully have its own 501 I've researched and spoken with many booster club presidents and other schools both big and small they're kind of take time to walk me through how they were structured what they've done with their donations some of the things these clubs have done with their funds to support their schools are purchased to uniforms purchase training for players and coaches create a whole experience during games to make a fun environment for the community funds to feed the teams on away games purchase Sports equipments as of now our school or coaches have had to pay for all of these and they're taken from other things the school could have used such as increased teacher pay I was wanting to serve a school booster club last year but was discouraged by the lack of school support we would get if we were our own organization however when talking to these other school booster clubs we found some common denominators for a successful booster club number one they were their own organization apart from school number two they worked well with the athletic director three they have healthy relationships with School administration four the school allows them to use their property to fundraise hi the school allows them to use their School logo six even the school advertises on their own website about the booster club to promote involvement animation when I asked Auto school if we could fundraiser in a game I was immediately Shuffle logo for different things I was denied saying it was not allowed I'd like the school board to consider where these rules are and if we can consider voting a change to now allow accepted boosters to fundraise on school grounds and use the logo just because we've been doing something a certain way for a long time doesn't make it I'd appreciated the board would grant for permission for us to work together the whole purpose of this rooster Club to help our students in school if we're not making a profit office if anything my guess is that I will personally lose money doing this but I really really believe if we can collaborate with each other we can create great experiences for our players teams and community Through Sports we can have an organization to help apply apply seed donations they accept school property purchase sports equipment and as a community better support our equipment yeah coach buddy Cruz yeah thank you uh coach buddy Hoosier uh coach football team and have a daughter in school here as well um I wanted to come and formally apologize for any miscommunication uh into the community of the field situation I wanted to just give a really simple timeline of what I was told and what happened so there's a little bit of clarity to the situation because the last thing I want is for there to be any um ill feelings or feelings of Deceit or um kind of yeah causing contention in the community because that's the last thing so on the April 22nd I was invited to attend a coach's clinic for the CAA and in that clinic they taught one of the topics of discussion was the poor field conditions for several schools the director of the CAA pulled me aside during lunch and said uh-oh is one of the schools that will not be able to have a home game unless you fix your field and so obviously I was a little bit panicked because our season is in three months so as soon as I got out I called all of our volunteer coaches that are going to be working with us this year and playing the situation I never said that the season would be canceled just said hey we have to fix the field or they're not going to let um nine days later uh Dr soltero is good enough to meet with all of us coaches and with joseon and um Jose was actually able to get clarification that they would let us play at home but we still there was fixes on the field to make but we would be able to have our own games thankfully this season um so a couple days later May 4th uh well so we put out the call I put up the call to our coaches hey here's the situation they then went to the community because resources locally and said hey here's the situation we need help and so the Chamber of Commerce ended up holding a special meeting and then they uh scheduled the time to go and look at the school in the field on May 4th and I I had nothing to do with that I was invited a couple hours before and said hey the chamber's going to be here if you want to be here swing on by so I I would stop by and I didn't tell Dr sotel honestly I never never even came to my mind that he would um wanted to be there so anyways they went they looked at the field they took pictures and they were blown away at the conditions of the field that it was let go to that extent um they were just shocked and so obviously most of you saw the Facebook post that night of what's happening to our field there can't save our season and there was definitely some untrue things that were said in that post uh I saw the next day and actually actually jumped in and tried to clarify just said hey we do get a play here here is our season um you know it's not getting canceled but I just wanted to say that the the yeah so that I apologize if I that was never my intent um if I could just have one last thing I want to say the response to the community um I do feel it was helpful to clarify that the season was still happening um I I got backlash or concerned members of the community that were there in solid field I said why is the school saying it's safe because it's not it basically discredited what they just saw in the first person and I have to say that we had boys get hurt last year on that field like it's not a safe field it's not uh we have to adjust our practice the way that we practice because it's not a safe field and we want to help the community wants to help we have access to a lot of funds a lot of interested alumni that want to support and so in no way is this US versus them we want to be on the same team we want to help however we can and I think the booster is going to be a great way that we can help contribute to Community into the the school program in general thank you I apologize I went over thank you very much that's supposed to comment very very good it's very proactive so I'm sure you that knowing him like I know him that you're going to be happy it's been nothing but great experiences we've had a great experience I just want to make that show support for our superintendent right that's what I wanted to do I believe that but we're also not allowed to comment on things that aren't on the agenda sorry Nana thank you okay next item of business Personnel is the certified employment of teacher Luella salivante okay Mr President members of the board um uh explanation members of the board and um members in the audience uh Mr Wheeler salivante has been interviewed for the position of classroom teacher for the 2023-24 Academic Year board action needed at this time this is an informational item only is this the does he get any pay compensation with this yes he will okay okay and part of the reason why we wanted to uh this was an internal post to give members on our team on our ausd team a chance to see that there is the possibility for growth in advancement within the district to employees first and this is a very good process right Dr Oaks he and I and Mysterion were on the committee three of our internal members applied it was great to see them step up and it was a very competitive process so uh good to see you excellent so again what I'm saying about our superintendent is that he identifies problems and he fixes them right he fixes them and this was his step to fixing the problems that we have with our Sports Fields right it was it was a bit it was a big uh just seeing how other districts uh in Southern Arizona have specifically this kind of team set up for the sole purpose of focusing on the sports facilities the fields and the gym your route it seems to me it'll make it more efficient to take care of the grounds all over the school including yes cut the grass side locks but now we have a focus and a game plan for year-round all the films because I know I've heard the teacher singing Daniel's Praises so I'm sure he's up for the task yes sir okay next item Personnel is the approval of at um here and if her one-on-one isn't here and he's not new to the substitute then she'll just go back and forth so sometimes in her staying here okay I'm just a typo they're home spring break intercession should be summer yeah yeah we do have one more name to add that will be on the Wednesday agenda but I only got the name this morning it was emailed to me Friday afternoon and I didn't care on the agenda um um but I couldn't add it to this one because we were already passed it 24 hours so I'm tomorrow's agenda uh clean De La Roma is going to be added but I couldn't add it to this one because we had already passed for 24 hours if you are you've already added it to tomorrows tomorrow also but she's not on this July don't start because we can't change okay any other description football coach and Malin Lewis Volunteer football baseball coach there was no board action needed at this time this is an informational item s so I have a question okay with me on the scoreboard yes even though you're related but you live in separate households then you're you're definitely okay same way Eric and and Rose Cameron could be on the board they lived in separate houses yeah I think it has to do with whether his getting paid would have a financial impact to you which would happen if you live in the same house but since you're not it I just want to make that yes sir appreciate that I do have a question about Mayland though is is just a clarify this is he only volunteering for football or is he volunteering for both okay I should put it and well let's eat it or okay beautiful okay if there's no other discussion on the next one which is business the 2023 District annual expenditure budget revision Mr President members of the board um in accordance with Arizona revised statutes 15 905 and 15-910 by May 15th the board May revise the school district annual expenditure budget after notice has been given and a public meeting has been held attached is the district annual budget information uh you're welcome to bring your laptop with you also that has the attachment and he's going to go through in detail um the presentation all right good morning Little Jeremy how are you doing the board here so I don't know if you can see them all but if you have a Rodriguez and we have Mr Hopkins right up here in the front our fourth president right behind uh Rodriguez we have Miss Olson one of our board members next to her to her left it's right here Mr Hopkins Mr Guthrie Mr Lonnie Guthrie we have Dr Manchester Boltz to his next and we have also um who's our principal and we have two uh well-respected members in our community I don't know if you can see them we have coach koozer and his wife Mrs Juliet and you're in this right here so Jeremy uh take it away tomorrow so hopefully to see the I'm sharing my screen so you can you can also follow along so looking at the agenda uh this school year 23 ending balances uh and then some adjustments go over some of the expected legislation of uh more recent information they just dropped it by today foreign [Music] a little bit but you can put the form ER it's over 3.7 million for all and in that difference column that kind of gives you a gauge as to how fast you're spending the money versus how fast as you can see that right now there's been coming on them but what's going out for expenses but until 3.7 mil so I look at how we're going to Tweet things for the main revision there's going to be a shift of 100 districts assistance expenditures over in the school plan and partners estimating the AFR will probably [Music] again across the things so to show you how that change is the total still remain the same the the now Eminem [Music] with school plan significantly and absorb Ed in the previous slide yeah is for a school plan can be used for any Capital purpose um some of the capital expenses which allows us to ship ment for next year put your money all right so overall uh 3.6 million of that over that 3.7 million dollar balance at that one-time funding that's available but 150 6 is going out but still shifting to make sure that we get the money all right this is a look and I'll tell you what the updates are but let's look at ending legislation the latest updated just had a budget bills dropped approved by Wednesday um it includes the replacement there's a ship that put those things funding over to the base originally now you get 100 we assessed it 0.9 so that number will go um about three thousand a 200 lower than the secrets a two percent of the base has now changed to a one-time increase of 300 million right now we we have dollar Statewide number they want to do the same methodology for next year so we can take multiply that by four negative it's actually coming in better than that days because four times so instead of the 63 it's on there on distributional assistance the original thought was two percent that says they're going to be 20 million and 20 million also comes out of 20 million is going to give you the 24 000 uh right now the bills that have just dropped this week it would ship these numbers higher than what's what's foreign [Music] things of that nature so it doesn't matter what point is outside the increase in the retention compensation by 600 has a foreign bringing up with the district and in the ground Commander report for social conversations Plus so total news is onboards and from 720 .

Board of Education meeting for May 8 2023 can I have a roll call please Mr Cerrone here Miss Doyle here Mr Gatewood president Miss Johnson present Mr ploger Miss simelton present Miss Swanson please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance flag of the United States of America and let's do the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all now we'll move to 4.1 superintendent candidate profile by school exec connect Dr O'Mara and DR Horton will be presenting not the emergency management system provider foreign no I'm just trying to figure out okay okay hold the phone all right um we're thrilled to be back here tonight we've had lots of great discussions and received lots of good input from the survey data focus groups open forums and and such great conversations very open uh Community with their opinions so we have uh good we've prepared a report that that Dr Horton Hill will describe for you and at the end of tonight's session we will release the profile for the board and for you to post on your website so that the public has a clear transparent sense of what this community needs in their next superintendent so I'm going to talk uh turn it over to DR Horton who can walk you through the PowerPoint of course any questions along the way please uh please Shout good evening I will try to take my time as we comb through this it's a lot of information you had to really engaged community members uh kudos to this District in this community for their student the student conversations I mean I was really impressed with hearing and listening to the students uh and definitely the passion coming from our parents um your staff and the community members as a whole so it's uh kudos to this just overall setup so I'll walk you through everyone in this room can read really well but I will make sure I try to hit the high levels and uh looking forward to the questioning uh once we're done all right so of course we conduct focus groups with a wide variety of stakeholders there was a total to be honest of nine different focus groups and we also had two Community sessions and you'll see this in here again there was also an online survey a questionnaire and which we had over 1100 response response to that which is pretty impressive uh and then we created a new superintendent profile based on the information collected from the focus groups as well as the questionnaires all right how would a profile report be used which is really critical the board and Consultants will use this new superintendent profile as we screen and conduct our interviews for Kansas there's been a lot of interest uh in in the superintendent vacancy and this is without the profiling being posted yet which says a lot it's a compliment to what has been able to be accomplished over the last few years the profile report will be used to develop the interview questions right which the the board and the firm will use at our different stages and then the candidate community may use this profile to find out about the strengths and being honest about the challenges of the community again as mentioned um what 90 90 attendees 1100 respondents and we this was the survey was open for roughly two weeks about 10 days which is really great and of course this for the record it is a sampling uh you know the reporting is not scientific study but it's you know provides only the perceptions of those who responded focus group questionnaire I I will I will go over the questions when I turn through the page but as you can see there are five prequestions that were asked in the focus group um and here's some of the responses that we talked about first it was about District strengths here it speaks about in general Oswego District appears to be prioritized inclusivity diversity and a well-rounded education for students it talks about the highly engaged Community strong connections between home and school continue to hear that throughout the entire piece the dedication and this is kudos to teachers and administrators dedication of administration and staff and teachers to their students was evident through their passionate work in regular communication with families communication continued to resurface as a shrimp the focus on meeting the needs of all students including special education was also highlighted pretty well pretty significant challenges this is always the tough part right Oswego District faces a range of complex and interconnected challenges including those related to community engagement fiscal stability diversity and inclusion professional supports Mental Health Resources research and curriculum development and mentorship programs and also strategies around communication which is a little different from communication as a whole it talked about there's a there's one way that it needs to be more diverse in how the communications are being delivered additionally there are the issues surrounding Staffing student behavior and burnout prevention for the staff addressing these challenges will be important for the development and success of the next leader of Oswego 308 Community District Focus areas for the first year there are a lot and I would not take I would not advise anyone to take all this on but to be honest I'll just highlight assignment and there there's no ranking for this so this is on here for the list is first that doesn't mean that's the first priority it's just that it is it happens to be captured this way so prioritize the financial stability and creating a plan to address finances building a culture of empathy and inclusion including addressing issues related to implicit bias discipline and the equity divide that came up consistently enhancing diversity efforts and making parents and students of color feel more welcome and engaged improving communication and engagement strategies to build trust with stakeholders and the last one I'll highlight is prioritizing the well-being and mental health support of students these are areas that in the first year that they would love for the superintendent to tackle and you can see there are others as well how did you prioritize this list is that are they there's no ranking no ranking for this these are these are pretty much from the focus groups when we met uh we were able to consistently hear these things and they made the list because it came up multiple times thank you yeah good question next one desired skills and characteristics so I think this is important we just talk about all of these right someone's a servant leader good listener adaptable goal oriented hey was this my did my wife do this what I don't blame me oh wait okay I thought a good listener all right prioritize your monetary aspects of each School unify the district strong Communicator both ways both ways right and I think that has a lot to do with listening as well as pushing information through and with communicating with the with staff with community members parents students and the board collectively having a diverse experience right leading leading schools or school districts a great Problem Solver commitment to the community is a huge one it came up in every single focus group possess strong leadership skills approachable thick skin authentic accountable and able to stand up um for all is crucial other priorities that that we thought were critical to highlight I'll just name a few of these it's essential that the superintendent leads with an open heart and possesses the diverse and compassionate leadership experience they must also have experience working with a symbol district and actively get into schools with boots on the ground that continue to be stated and I'll jump down as far as the process it was it spoke about focus on a leadership framework driven decision making so leading through to framework research base transparency and stakeholder inclusion during the hiring process should be the norm and I think this is really critical what you all have been doing with uh with the focus groups and the surveys that's been really uh including a really inclusive of everyone the committee needs to be diverse to represent the school Community without any self-serving interest and educated on how to lead Oswego 308 is essential when actually elaborate on that in a few centuries a few of the sessions it we I don't I'm not you all understand how Dynamic this community can be there are multiple municipalities that you have to serve and how do you serve the needs of all collectively and that continue to come up here's the questionnaire 1129 total responses um 284 with staff 707 active parents 74 business owners and 185 students responded I'll just I'll talk about this next this next segment educational strengths as you can see the top one became strong communication with parents and community and right underneath that was opportunities for students outside of the classroom classroom parents as well as students talked about the diverse opportunities of different uh engagement opportunities that they can take part in consistently and they were excited about that safe students and staff learning environments they feel like this is really critical for school systems in this day and age that a high percentage of the respondents felt that this has saved students and staff learning environments that is really critical so hats off to creating that culture and then use of technology for learning educational challenges environment that attracts and retains highly effective Personnel that continue to come up some of the things that we heard were salary and really making sure that we can keep the staff that's that's homegrown in the in the district in the community adequate resources to fund programs and Personnel to meet students needs and challenging the state the state-of-the-art curriculum like really uplifting the curriculum that we currently happen Ela Math Science and all of those areas and there was a there was things that continue to be uh highlighted around student Readiness for the next level of learning organizational and managerial strengths the schools are clean and well well maintained school grounds that's important again school safety resurfaced again as a strength relationships with other units of government so that means that the current leadership and board works well with the multiple municipalities that you do business with every single day and the schools are modern modern school facilities and of course up-to-date technology here are the challenges for organizational and managerial challenges stewardship of financial resources in this in this stage you're going to hear that a lot in many districts considering the the Whirlwind of dollars that came in but we have to be prepared because it's going away class size was a concern long-range strategic planning and implementation so they separated that continue to plan but also make sure that it's being implemented with fidelity open two-way communication between school and District that came back and some kind of way school safety made it on here again on the other end right yeah so you have a little split on that one priorities for the new superintendent no surprise you hear fiscal responsibilities student well-being 21st century skills I thought that was really critical and we talk about the things that really make us successful it's not just numerous and literacy skills it's how do we communicate how do we collaborate our creativity Innovation and all those things is something that they want the new superintendents to take on as a priority improve academic achievement for all students and strong relationships with staff and community members characteristics and skills needed for the new superintendent also someone who makes decisions based on what's best for students possess a deep knowledge of in curriculum and instruction and manage the budget effectively it continues to recycle and practice its transparency and decision making now we get into the tenants of the new superintendent profile I'll read a few of these uh because it's it's it's a few slides and it's a lot of information but I will make sure that we highlight again this is not a rank these are things that that we were able to pull from when you align the survey with the focus groups possess a deep knowledge of innovative teaching and learning with experience and trauma-informed practices be familiar with the Oswego 308 Envision 308 strategic plan and the four priorities student learning support for student learning finance and facilities and Community Partners focus on student-centered decision making and planning while concurrently being creative confident and responsive is a Visionary leader who is Future focused a strategic thinker and a relationship Builder with staff community and the board and highly skilled at building trust mutual respect and consistency both systematically and while strengthening a unified district-wide positive culture and climate these are more profile components but should be a person who passionately Embraces the current traditions and values of the district yet is open-minded resourceful and responsive to the diverse and changing needs of the students and families of honoring the current 308 what what it has been while also helping to move it on to the next phase of his existence as a school system exhibit again excellent communication and public relations skills to engage all stakeholders communicates a Clear Vision for the future of the district and also motivates and inspires others to act according prioritize the recruitment training and retention of Highly Effective teachers and leaders this is important too Guided by clear human resource practices focused on hiring staff who are diverse in race gender and background that came up a lot because that successful experience as a teacher building and District level leader and understands teaching learning and behavior needs while promoting instructional and managerial methods that are engaging in support of our academic abilities want a person who's successful experienced as a teacher and building District level leader understands teaching learning and behavior needs while promoting instructional and management methods that are engaging in support of high academic and social emotional growth values the unique needs of every student and allocates resources for programs in and out of the classroom that support students academic creativity displays skills and fiscal responsibility financial management and future focused facilities planning it will continue to be highlighted that this community is growing and we have to have a leader who can prepare and and use what's available to think about the expansion of of this District a visible Hands-On leader who becomes immersed in the life of the district schools and a community have a strong presence in the classroom and activities in the community events as well what are the next steps I forgot to mention one of the things that is in the report but you'll see they also want a superintendent who have who has experienced some failures right because we grow from that and that's really important here's what's next for us for the board Consultants to conduct interviews and reference checks using the new superintendent profile we will then recommend candidates to the board and the board will conduct first interviews choose finalists and the board holds second interviews and candidates presentations and board make selection of finalists conduct reference checks negotiate contract with the goal of being having a new superintendent to begin on July 1st 2023.

senior Cafe is part of that West Side building project so is it adjacent to the rest of the the cafeteria yeah it's a connected just west of the current okay and then with the Ln fencing I want to make sure that our condo Community there next door is Happy we've had conversations and we're happy we're getting there yes okay okay going up faster searching for happiness okay okay but we're in but we're in conversation okay um the Ln gym I I'm not sure what we're all doing but I'm sure it'll be delightful when I see it the LC floor I noticed that you're refinishing I think that was in your notes correct and we're refinishing the LC floor I thought we already refinished it so what happened we rejected the overall finish of the first time around so the contractor is having to redo the floor okay okay it was just a just a hot mess it looked like I did it or something and not a good job okay okay okay all right wasn't wasn't perfect all right um and so the contractor takes care of that expense correct okay great great thank you for that okay um uh board we are on to board goals and the proposed new board goals so um that would be you but the assistant soups will be helping you okay all right so I'll ask for you due to lead us here good evening Madam president Dr Smith members of the board tonight we presented to you with a skeleton of the 2023-2024 board goals as we go through this evening allowing for discussion as we go through first equity and anti-racism turn it over to Mr noder good evening Madam president members of the board Dr Smith we're leading off with our focus on equity and anti-racism as is appropriate given our Equitable student outcomes action plan so the recommendation is to stay the course with our Equitable student at outcomes action plan that was approved last year at this time as will be our first year into implementation this year we need to continue that in for year two and hopefully you've all had an opportunity to look at our dashboard which is updated on a regular basis so that we hold ourselves internally accountable but we also are communicating to our stakeholders the progress that we're making and I'll continue with student achievement so you'll see many of these goals are similar to the goals that we've had for for this year to stay the course with those particular goals and the first one is the graduation rate and this is perhaps our most important indicator for student achievement and it's also our leading indicator for our Equitable student outcomes action plan over time the strength of diploma is the most important part of this goal that we are moving our students from General diplomas to core 40 from core 40 to academic honors and Technical Honors and that we're measuring our our success by the growth in every racial subgroup so that's the graduation right by now I think you all are familiar with our rigor diagnostic process I mean this really is about instruction so this is about the the level of instruction that our schools and our classrooms are providing and we've increased this goal over the years that we've been involved with this because our schools continue to improve so for next year my recommendation is that we achieve or exceed an end-of-year rigor diagnosis diagnostic score of 9.0 I'm pleased to report we've got three schools already that have exceeded that this year so we would be looking for growth from them as well if schools are below a 9.0 we're expecting a two-point growth from the beginning of the year to the end of the year and again this is about instruction the the level of instruction we're providing in our classrooms as we move to the the next slide these are various achievement data points some internal and some at the state level the first one is our own internal formative assessment system that we have where we're periodically throughout the year measuring students growth on our district benchmark assessments and for next year it'll be I ready so I read I ready as a state approved vendor for formative assessment and we measure our students at the beginning of the year middle of the year end of the year with progress monitoring in between and so for now I'm recommending a growth of 10 percent but I would like to to reserve the opportunity to come back to you after we get our year-end results I'm thinking we might be able to go higher than a 10 percent growth but I want to analyze our end of this school Year's results before making that final recommendation but at least 10 percent growth from the beginning of the year to the middle of the year to the end of the year on our internal assessments and this is really what we hold ourselves accountable to we have the data immediately it drives instruction and so this is a really really important board goal the next bullet is one I'm recommending that we add for this school year this coming school year I'm in the past our board goals have been really aligned to the school accountability formula and I read three has not been part of school accountability and I'm predicting that it's going to become part of school accountability in the coming years and so I think it's important that we measure that as a board goal and so I'm recommending that by June of 2024 so that would be a year from now that 80 percent of our third grade students who've been enrolled in LT for at least three years so not students who've just moved to us but they've been with us for at least three years first grade second grade and third grade will be proficient on the irie3 assessment with accelerated growth in our black Hispanic El sped and free and reduced subgroups this will lay that foundation for our students as they then matriculate throughout our school district and then the last one for student achievement is tied to iLearn as of now iLearn is still the primary data source for school accountability for elementary schools and middle schools in the state of Indiana so it's important that we have a goal around that this goal is about growth on iLearn and that students are moving proficiency categories from the does not meet expectations or below proficiency to approaching or at or above proficiency so that we're moving students each year with iLearn and you can see the Baseline we did meet that goal for some subgroups last year but not the subgroups that really will move our district and so there's more work to be done there so I'm recommending that that goal continue for 23.24.

lower it goes far down and in Bridget Jordan takes it tries to get it out good stop there by Megan mordo tried to keep it from going out of the offensive zone Agawam picks it up and they're starting to move she picked up quickly by Talia Weiss who's flying down in coverage along with the boys number something 15 I believe hard to tell from here but we're gonna get a quick look number 15 Isabel the Lancet just a really nice shot right there good pass quick look in the top right corner really not a chance for only to save it one one 22 minutes and 57 seconds remaining in the first half draw control there it's being chased down still being chased ball still on the ground chasing it Bridget Jordan chasing it Bridget Jordan recognizing the rule there that she could actually come back over the line almost intercepted Addie Jordan almost picks it up it's slapped down again by Anna macarini she picks it right up I'll turn over claws turn over there hard to tell whether that cause turnover was due to mcarini or Jordan or a combination of both but East Longmeadow has the ball at the top Bridget Jordan that was like that one was kind of interesting tried to get it in there to her sister they just missed it went actually over her stick and onto the goalie stick and here comes here they come on a turnover it's going to be swooped up by Meghan Warner with a one-handed stupid turn not sure how that played but she got it dodging [Music] oh this is going to be a beautiful pass I mean you can see that one coming right there was getting the attention of the defense and Ali Thompson was just wide open it was like a Look Away pass Hobson went in with the left hand for a goal Eastwood Meadow up 2-1 Thompson number six Megan Bruno on the assist good little kind of set up there a little bit of a fast break off enzyme that turnover Morneau took it up drew the attention of the team Ali Thompson with some great off-ball movement about wide open for her patented Lefty shot put it past the senior Agawam one of the fastest players on the team speeds her way up the left-hand side keeps on trucking against it macaroni to add Jordan behind coming in from the left-hand side coming back to the right hand side and she hits the post again I think actually though that that one might have hit the goalie stick and then into the cage big rebound these small metal gets to the sidelines first Kenna Marino got it into Jordan over to Thompson Thompson to morno tomorrow not sure there it looks like violation pictures only the last two weeks in the last two weeks good look there as Royal was cutting across Thompson running in down [Applause] [Music] number six Megan mornell with the gold a good start here for East Longmeadow we're a little bit over four minutes Longmeadow I'm just gonna switch it up a little bit here on this raw control Megan morno going to take the middle circle looks like come into the circle think of Moreno and Ally Thompson stays in there and the ball is on that ground and it's moving it's all over the place and look at that Addie Jordan picks it up and she's going down here a little Breakaway she looks to Borno mornos open [Music] really good look what Daddy Jordan coming down coming down the left hand side peace [Music] one quick Dodge move and then fired into the back of the goal it was 4-1 East Longmeadow Patty Jordan to Megan I'm gonna take a little break here as Agawam calls a timeout to try to settle themselves down here a little bit I said was really four and a half minutes foreign lift lift lift here we go more don't fix it up running down the field looking for Bridget Jordan she sees her and that is a slam-up Bama cold one right handed pass between wide wide open Bridges Jordan in the middle of the circle and just slammable number seven Bridgette Jordan number six Megan morno on the assist together and then to have that happen is really just don't know 5-1 East Longmeadow [Music] we play they're another draw control by East Longmeadow morno getting chased from behind [Music] follow their aggressive defense actually looks like not sure not a yellow card it didn't look like it would be a yellow card but lorno's gonna get an eight meter as a result we'll see what she does here run it in it's a really difficult angle you really have to be first in if you're going to try to go to goal here and she does go to goal and she speaks this is really a great start here for East Longmeadow s on defense and I think for them it really starts with the draw control they haven't won really any draw controls yet maybe one of the eight draw controls a couple of them have been 50 50 balls and Jordan macaroni and Mourinho and morno have scooped up those 50 50 balls so he needs to start somewhere restart again unless you blinked up again daddy Jordan fighting for that ball and oh it looked good to me it looked like she was really fighting for that and took it out of her stick with the rest called the other way [Music] playing a very aggressive defense here I mean they are really forcing here double teaming forcing Agawam out challenging every pass port and scooped up into the net by Jenna Hall sophomore looks like Talia White's driving down the right hand side actually can't tell if that's Talia Weiss or if it's actually it was a device Defender making oh look at that pass right there wide open look great catch by senior Bridget Jordan drives into the back of the net for the second goal of the game I looked like an assistant little November 7 Bridget Jordan number three Carolina just has not found the answer for the potent East Longmeadow offense right now [Music] I picked up by Megan morno heading down passes it up great catch there by Addie Jordan running down the middle does a quick little Dodge left a little Dodge right she's double team she's triple team she fires it high with a lot of a lot of power backed up by two East Longmeadow players Bridget Jordan has it passes it out to Kenna Marino top of the key top of the circle whatever you want to call it the Megan morno passes it over to Luke casing moving in Speedy Dodge goes right left my cow tally Thompson he saw metal taking its time here moving around Bridget Jordan has it goes over to Hattie Jordan really opens up the offense morno comes through you can see Jordan coming around she's gonna fire that right-handed shot again third post of the game for Addie Jordan potentially setting the East Long medal of record for six minutes of hitting the post not one of them for some reason has gone far down they've either gone far out or Far Over taking it again brings over to Mourinho Reno really needs to look a little bit more for the Dodge I think this really looks for that pass right away every once in a while up six one tried a little btb there a pass from catamarino to Megan Borneo because this did a little wide but for the low right corner Thompson setting up the offense [Music] moving it around Addie Jordan steps back out she's going to set up a Dodge here she does a couple Shuffle steps she moves right fires angle one was just a hair too late getting over there it gets a shooting space fall but what Addie Jordan gonna take one from the top I expect her to run it in about four or five steps and then fire one low to the left-hand side let's see what happens here [Applause] one sparring goal is scored by number five Addie Jordan Gabriella illingsworth I think has just made her way into the game as anime and a macaroni takes a little bit of a rest on the sidelines get some water it's a warm night out there I think we're gonna see some players get wrote another good one there draw control Addie Jordan [Music] oh here we go backed up by Bridget Jordan good teamwork right there [Music] looking Forno's got it she's looking flips it flips it looking for a pass looking for a cutter now moving bumped passes it over to Bridget Jordan getting a pick set by Addie Jordan comes back around daddy Jordan could hit smack you oh good try there what a great play good pass right on macaroni 's left hand I'm sorry Ally Thompson's left hand where she likes it just shot that one wide good coverage another pick set wide open there that's going in the net no questions asked there good play good pick set good goal and good fire number five Addie Jordan you can have Patty Jordan take the crawl control This Time Warner is going to remain on the circle Ally Thompson that was really dominated the draw control all night long we're only 10 minutes into this game and we have 10 scores already goes for the self-draw just a little bit outside of her stick but it's Thompson Thompson to Jordan Jordan circles it back gets it over the line passes it into lucasic who wants to get a shot off and rightfully so fires it a little bit High picked up by I believe Angelina trulio Julio tomorrow I left favorite shot she really loves to take it any assistance knew you were gonna say that Spartan goals remember number one Kenna Marino number six Mega morning on the assist thank you this is Eastland Meadows best offensive game they've scored on basically possession that they've had their efficiency rating would be off the charts right now Addie Jordan to take the draw again they're not sure just a little bit hard on the Stick Swing Down pause gets that he saw that I'm still in a very aggressive defense here by Mourinho right on top of number it passes it around 28 test it all finally getting some action there it's like it's all your [Applause] [Music] wife's gonna get an opportunity to give Agawam her second Soul you know what since sides of 14 they're going to really try to run and get in front of her so that she has to turn out the Weiss who's got it very speedy taking your time steps it up right there great play here we go it's gonna be kept in Agawam though picks it up running down the sideline number three lucasic chasing her down number four trulio having them trapped [Music] a little bit of a low pass right there not saying that it shouldn't have been caught for 14.

all right so we break those down they're ongoing Revenue available [Music] here [Music] foreign yeah I would say about five years ago [Music] about it's almost here so assuming no other new Revenue it's overall we have some healthy balances available right now uh exchanges playing after next year we'll start to draw those [Music] and they're giving you could be doing a lot more yeah [Music] you're writing about delivering them out there because put that in context if if every homeowner who has an assessed value of a hundred thousand dollars was really really ten dollars unfortunately I have a school facility some districts are yeah um aside from that though I've been thinking any budget questions thank you Jeremy thank you for the presentation um the increasing pay and hours up to 30 hours that's pretty much sustainable yes thank you sure thank you cheers so I want to say real quick I'll just jump in here real quick um for our board and uh all right um we have I just wanted to show everyone that Jeremy's really going above and beyond doing great work he's up in Tennessee and High School District kind of running things up there but uh we met we finally connected yesterday we met four or five times and we went over this yesterday about 11 to 12 30 on Sunday he was very dedicated very detailed transparent so as you can see uh what we have and where it is and what I really like is the sustainability part especially to run out every employee here on Yahoo Unified School District's campus have a chance to have health insurance so that's that's very important so um thank you Jeremy and um we'll keep in touch absolutely [Music] um foreign that's our ping pong table s okay so next item of business is the approval of the disposal of library books yes sir Mr President members of the board um Dr Donnell Conley has leaded the school library and is seeking board permission to discard approximately 385 library books these books are recommended for disposal based upon lack of circulation and condition my recommendation there is a little board action necessary this is an informational item only how will these books be disposed I will turn to our historian uh Miss Angelina what did she share with you historically two ways two weeks going to try try to run a summer program and usually with like a summer program they uh they come like they do summer school and they read and do activities and she bundles them up and like hands them out okay and gets out to uh to kids that come from the summer program um she also it's like it's just totally blown and none of the kids want to read it or it's so old that you know it's falling apart then those usually we have to dispose of we have to take them to adopt um but if it's a good like book and it just hasn't been in circulation um sometimes she'll get like a book that's a um and then switch it out with like a one of the new uh comic books so then they're still reading but it's pictures of kids talking with you know Bubbles and stuff like that it looks like a comic book but it's donkey Hopey or or whatever a copy of a classic and they're more interested in reading it that way than there are the actual table fashioned way yeah so then show she'll dispose of that book and then get it or show buy an e-book with the 15 000 okay out and the ebook will be they'll be even better than they will old-fashioned okay so she's got a handful of ways that she can and we can't donate any of these to the public library okay we try we actually tried that one year and we donated we got special Commission because it was public library so it's one uh organization to another organization and then three years went by and then they donated the same books back to us and we were like yeah that doesn't work that doesn't work yeah okay so um but like we said if we you know give them away or we actually take them physically to the dump and then we leave them there and that's what we have to do for this taxpayers so were all these books purchased pulse fired um no well some of them on the list were from 93 94 and 95.

questions uh for us here's our contact information for the board and for the community if you have any questions about the profile and things of that nature you can reach out to myself for Dr Kevin O'Mara and or myself uh if you have questions you back up one slide go back one yeah sure I thought one of the selling points was that you guys conduct reference checks too we do at the very top okay because then it says board a more in-depth reference more in depth yeah so there's we do reference checks at the very beginning we do yes ma'am and then once you get to that final SEO or two you can we'll go deeper and we talked about some other ways on May 22nd we'll talk underneath profile that we developed with the board about next steps and camp figure out who's doing well with the board's commission I would like to have the full report which is these slides of the highlights of this report with Ursula so you each have a copy of that to take home and with the board's commission I will send this uh profile to Ursula tomorrow morning so it could be posted on your website we want to make sure we maintain the high transparency and good communication with your you know how many uh applicants have you have you had I know that we had an update a bit ago but just interested 26 and our most I expected this morning that we might have more than I don't know and uh how many of those were out of state uh and uh still feeling good about the timeline talked about a tentative timeline um I shared that last time we met but we're going to redo it again this evening if it's okay with you okay yeah in the full report DR Horton Dr Amira is there um a place that um shares out any input that was given that was outside of the questions survey then yeah typically do not include that in our reports and I'll be honest with you the reason why is because much of that is full of hate speech inappropriate language um things that probably should not be revealed to the public at lunch um we did take into consideration some of those responses when we developed our profile so they have been accounted for but I certainly don't want to put on towards language in the public domain I appreciate that does that make sense yes I very much appreciate that do we have access as a board to that information if we wanted it uh we can talk about it okay next time we meet we'll be in closed session I think that's it becomes better served in closed session thank you does that make sense yes it does make sense I did just get some feedback from some community members that they felt that the questions that were asked didn't were all geared positively and didn't allow for there to be um I think an opposite dialogue so I heard that a lot of people used the open question to input stuff but if you've put it in here and made sure that we have that information as well minus the the hate speech that is I did get one email from one Community member who portrayed those concerns with me as well about the nature of the survey change the survey too much it destroys the psychometrics that have been the right to align the results that were presenting tonight so there's a reason why the survey is a foreign the bottom line is we wanted to develop an accurate candidate profile that the Oswego Community could stand by I think this reflects that I appreciate that I just feel that it is my duty to represent my constituents I understand um who's up right now our next step would be by May 22nd in closed session to deliver a slate of five to seven semi-finalists to the Board of Education when I say deliver I mean all their paperwork with our reference checking and our recommendations to move these candidates forward that are best fits based on this profile that we've just revealed to the to the Board of Education community after that we would suggest the board sooner rather than later during the week of May 29th determine a schedule to interview those five to seven candidates over a two to three day period and then perhaps the week of June 5th interview the three finalists that you'd like to interview for the final position we would recommend that that happen over a three-day period so that you have a single day with each of the three five and can you tell us how our community will be involved in that process more details about uh community and staff and teacher and admin involvement will be our top one of our top discussion topics on May 22nd that's why you need three days though because there is community and staff and admin and teacher involvement that we would recommend to the Board of Education knowing that these are board decisions to make and these are only our recommendations but we found that model to work very very well yes thank you thank you what I'd like to do though is um man president is to get an idea of what you're looking for for dates during that week of May 29th and June 5th so that we when we interview candidates which is coming up we're going to be tied up this weekend very long that we can share some of the information with our candidates so they can black off their times especially if they're coming from out of state so do we want to send out a questionnaire on the dates and then um like you guys we need your responses back right away well Monday is a holiday so if you need three days it's pretty much Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Wednesday the 30th 31st and the first Okay so Tuesday Wednesday Thursday of the of the week of what what are those dates the 29th the week the 30th the 31st and the first the Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Memorial Day week okay all right and then the week of June 5th we need three days we already have a board meeting on the fifth okay we do have a meeting on the fifth yeah so then the sixth seventh and eighth yes unless one of them could be combined with a board meeting if we could start earlier about how how long how big a time slot I'm sorry I I just sent you the profile I was doing two things at once the time slot for June 5th how long will it take to have these meetings are they an hour long the first run the first round of interviews I think you probably won a black a two and a half hour window for each of those three days it gives your community and your and teachers have an advent Gene committees time to interview those candidates before the board does also gives about 10 or 15 minutes and we'll talk about this in Greater detail on the 22nd but it also gives the board a chance to hear uh and see a presentation by the candidates on the last day the third day whatever that third day is you may want to tack on an hour or so for deliberations [Music] and we've got tools for you to use during deliberations too that work pretty well they're pretty cool all right so right now first looking you send out something for Tuesday May 30th 31st and June 1st yes um what time do you want to do this the the time that I would like to work you know was yeah generally in the late afternoon early evening for our part that's whether for the three finalists for the first round for any time okay yeah I have that you've got a real job okay yeah I could probably sneak out for an hour if necessary depending on everybody first round interviews that the interviews it will um you won't be here for more than an hour and in every case I'd like to commit to less an hour for each of the five to seven all right so let's just say four o'clock Tuesday the 30th and the 31st and then June 1st I'm sorry yeah June 1st and then June 6th 7th and 8th it's six months well the fifth is our board meeting do you want to do something on the 5th yeah let's let's do something on the fifth it's two and a half hours oh that one yeah we can't no that's why okay let me let me say this yeah the board meeting no well let's let's let's we'll talk about this on a 20 second in great detail but I would say that if you have the Committees here let's say at two o'clock and at three o'clock then the board can meet at four o'clock and that before if you want to do three four and five that's fine too the board doesn't need to be here for the entire three hours right yeah does that make sense yes and is that for both weeks I can't that's for the free finalists that's three finalists okay at least that's your recommendation that's my recommendation exactly right so we can do the fifth thing that's up to you but that's that's the board members don't need to be here for that three hour block only for one hour which need to be here for each of the three days so do you guys want to do something on the fifth at like four o'clock yes yeah yes I'm already booked yes yeah and seven yeah right before the board meeting yeah so five instead of four yeah so six five six six six six seven starting at three o'clock is that a true statement for the candidates 3 P.M 4 P.M 5 p.m but I think she's saying do it on the fifth do it at five instead of four is what you're saying right actually because of our board meeting so well that's our time though that's our time our time will be five someone Administration or someone else can be three and someone can be four okay schedule similar for the sixth okay I know this really doesn't matter but if you're gonna deliberate with the people who are also meeting with him you might want to go at four that's why because you're going to want to talk to in our model there is no deliberation but you're having them meet with other people you're going to want to know what those other people thought we have we have a tool and a methodology that will take care of that I promise you you did say something about and have time for deliberation is at the very last day I would say that would take place on the Sabbath the very last day candidates okay celebration I wouldn't deliberate before you've seen all three candidates I agree okay so let's cut Ursula can you recap the June 5th 6th 7th times three four and five three four and five at five PM but I would just like to send some uh we should check with the new board members as well to make sure they can be there that early right can you repeat that or so I'm sorry we would need we I would like to check with our new incoming board members just to make sure that they can be attend that early as well what was a decision made uh on your first round of interviews the week of May 29th if if you've made that decision in discussion tonight I missed it it's the 30th the 31st and the first right 31 and one yes what what time for those we said four o'clock for us for us four o'clock well it would only be the board okay only the board is involved in the semifinals okay got it so you're gonna do a 4 pm of 5 PM at a 6 p.m on the 30th I thought they we saw just people could meet earlier no he was talking it's only us so are you doing all three in one day all three in one day you'll do oh three each day we don't know if it's five or six or seven I don't I don't care as long as we don't start till four yeah I'm I Echo that okay four o'clock four o'clock start on each of those days let's keep the first as a tentative if we don't get seven we could probably do um all the semi-finalists on the 30th and 31st okay perfect does that make sense yes is it appropriate to ask the new board members that are in the audience right now okay perfect but not the first okay so now we're going back to the fifth sixth and seventh Fifth Sixth and seven so if if we do it on the fifth sixth and seventh is that a little better that would be where we start at five yes the fifth sixth and seventh the board starts at five years right correct that's what I'm hearing and that would just be one interview each day for those days okay here's here all this is gonna be in much more detail in 20 seconds I wasn't really prepared so I'm sorry that I didn't bring anything for the for the interviews to take place in the fifth the sixth and the seventh I would recommend you identify a committee of community members and parents not to exceed 12 people it can be overwhelming for a candidate to walk in on a crowd of people to interview plus you won't have time to act more than plus you'd last a question and I would also identify Committee of staff teachers and admin they'd spend one hour with your parent community committee one hour with your staff teacher and admin committee and we have feedback sheets prepared for those committees to give feedback to the board not ranking candidates that's the board's decision legally and rightfully but they would be giving feedback and each of the committee uh from each of the Committees on each of the on each of the people that uh are being interviewed from the finals so did you say the staff teacher admin it's 12 people total or 12 each 12 Max okay 12 Max for each of the two committees one parent community parents Community Committee and one staff teacher admin committee Maxwell for each of those two committees that make sense yes and I'll bring all those documents and the metrics and the tools to the to the meeting on the 22nd you'll have a whole package to review it'll be thick okay hey other questions for us first I already sent you the profile well uh develops the questions we'll talk about it in a few workshops too okay but really those are your decisions when we have the interview workshop with you on the 22nd we will leave you with about 200 sample questions okay they're all categorized in different areas fiscal curriculum instruction Communications leadership and so forth we've done a good job of kind of parsing those out but ultimately you as board members need to to develop those and based upon the profile that has been developed there are some questions that are more relevant than others I would imagine okay and you'll identify that absolutely yeah we will walk through your interpassal interview questions on the 22nd have until the 30th to get those finalized and again Madam president I would suggest you be the person to collect those from your board members will do are we allowed to give them for the board interview only um I I don't know what if I want to say pre-work but some areas that we will be discussing so that we can encourage them to bring actual metrics or examples versus generic so come in with perhaps a 90-day plan yes that there's nothing wrong with that okay I wouldn't spend too much time in the interview process itself going over that and reviewing that part of your deliberations right conversation and if you're kind of reading through a 90-day plan that kind of precludes a good a good conversation the reason I say that is if I were a potential candidate and I saw all of that information it would be very hard to focus on what I really want to bring to the table and I am not as an HR practitioner a shock and awe type of interviewer I think candidates should be prepared but that is like literally that's like the ocean right there so I would like the ocean but you want that person to walk across that ocean it can be overwhelming Divine and I have done this many times and we will walk these candidates through the profile when we interview them wonderful thank you that's a very valid point and I agree can I make one more suggestion at some point include the students like you said parents teachers like even if it's just our student board members yes oh yeah like you've got one from each school right here if they're not away at College already yeah I know but it just wasn't on his list and I wanted it on there if that's what the board wants to do we can accommodate that but again you don't want my recommendation is that you don't want more than three groups meeting with these finalists right or they could be a part of the 12.

and the purpose of the public hearing is to hear about the project and to have a second preliminary determination hearing so right now we're going to conduct the hearing Mr Phillips thank you Mr stinner this is a continuation of the process started during the previous board meeting and this is the very beginning of the legal process to allow us to issue bonds to renovate complete the renovation of Schmidt elementary school tonight is actually two different hearings we have confirmation we can conduct those at the same time it is the second preliminary determination hearing the first preliminary determination hearing held at the April 24th meeting and also tonight is the project hearing um we will the bond issue is for a maximum of 15.3 million dollars and will be neutral on the tax rate as we have other debt rolling off and refinanced the 2013 projects earlier this year at a lower rate the tonight's forward action there's four resolutions that are required tonight at the later on during the approvals portion of the meeting the next step in the process for the board won't take place until the July 17th meeting when there'll be the final approval of the projects and the bond issue at the July 17th meeting so at this time Mr stinner we're happy to take any comments or questions from the public thank you Mr Phillips is anyone from the public here tonight interested in speaking to the project at Schmidt or to the bond issue so just a reminder in terms of the process these hearings are all legal matters for us to make sure that the public is aware of the amount of money that we are looking to bond in this particular case for renovations to Smith Elementary School again a maximum of 15.3 million dollars as we Embark upon that renovation many of you are familiar with a similar renovation in terms of cost happening at Parkside Elementary School right now so that's that's what this particular these particular dollars would be used on again thank you Dr Roberts last chance we are closing the public hearing on the bond issue and the project thank you Mr Phillips we'll jump back to our regular agenda now I will for the record note that we did have a quorum for the bond hearing and we do have a quorum for our board meeting so I will call the meeting to order we have on the screens in front of you displayed the bcsc vision mission and core beliefs I'll let you read those for yourselves we try to keep those in front of us as we're making decisions to remind ourselves of what's important to us a great way to begin our meetings is with recognitions Dr Roberts I know we have a number of recognitions to go through tonight and I love the name math stangs it's the first time I've seen that maybe um so uh thank you Mr stinner well we do have a great group of uh individuals to recognized here uh this evening the reason we are at Columbus North High School versus the terrorist room at the administration building uh is is we're here in order to accommodate this this great group of people we're going to start off with Southside Elementary math staying so Mr bachmeier if you could come forward [Applause] good evening Dr Roberts and the school board appreciate you having us and giving us an opportunity to share their hard work I would like to thank Mrs Keel our math bowl coach and all of the boys and girls and their parents for the opportunity to represent South Side it takes a lot of participation and a lot of hard work and a lot of rides to school early in the morning so we appreciate all of that so I'm going to introduce Mrs Keel our math well coach and let her tell you about her season thank you Mr brockmeyer and thank you to the board for inviting us to be here this evening I also want to thank the other folks at Southside who helped us host the competition back in April now and so thanks to our custodial staff thank you to the children for helping set up in the gym that afternoon and thank you to the other teachers and staff who helped in a variety of ways so that we could hold that competition that evening this year's math bowl Focus was Data analysis and probability and as the scores reflected Statewide it was definitely a challenging competition year during our practices we explored familiar Concepts like mean median and mode while also examining box and whisker plots and their upper and lower quartiles odds versus probability combinations and permutations paying attention of course to when the order is important and when it doesn't matter and solve those multi-step problems in only 30 45 or 60 seconds in an incredibly intense environment which is certainly a daunting task and so Statewide the highest score was a 29 out of 32 questions answered correctly so certainly spoke to the level of difficulty these children scored a 28 and earned a third place Statewide finish after considering the tiebreaker scores as well and upon further research I also discovered that we were the only true k-6 Elementary represented in the top ten so those other nine schools were intermediate schools of either fourth through sixth fifth through sixth graders or sixth grade only academies so during the the competition of course and the uh practices and everything more importantly in my eyes it was their ability to remain positive to support one another and to have this overall eagerness and excitement to learn and so I'm so proud of our math things and would like to introduce them to you this evening so we have Sohan bogurapu next to him is ISA pan Alicia yang Catherine Yang hamsika vinaman Nini vaishnavi Pena shrika redam advanu Luke woo of nital rohi panchwag ishantarik Connor Buchanan Marco Miller gracening advice and missing this evening said batula and surabi Ramesh so thank you very much very good thank you [Applause] congratulations [Applause] congratulations [Applause] [Music] congratulations thanks for coming tonight [Music] thank you [Applause] okay board members the next group we have to recognize this evening is the Smith Elementary Sonic cyborgs they qualify for the international competitions in Dallas Texas and went last week they were giving a demonstration between 6 and 6 30 today hopefully everybody had a chance to to check that out that was the competition that they did while in at the state finals as well as in Dallas I think they had a minute to try to score as many points as possible so thank you that demonstration Mrs Vols if you could take it from here thank you so much for having us here today we certainly appreciate it I want to first off tell you our official results so we be we came in third place in our division and 80th Place in the entire United States which is awesome I cannot be more proud of this team I want to take time to thank Dr hack Dr Roberts our school board and our community this community showed up for its kids in so many ways so many of the board members came and showed up for kids we let kids know that you support them yet again like we always do our team felt the collective support when we were in Dallas we had multiple text messages multiple Facebook messages in supporting us so we're so excited that you were able to live that story with us and now Smith's teacher of the year stem teacher and Vex coach Mrs Haynes had to add that in there we'll introduce our team well one thing about Vex is it's a student-run organization so for me to introduce the students would actually go against all the tenets of Vex but none of this would have been possible without amazing coaches that jumped in to help us and spent hours upon hours coach Kyle Weidner without him we would not be where we are today coach quirshi without her I don't know that all the kids would be here with us today because we probably would have lost him in Dallas and Coach Jennifer Roberts who's not here today is unable to be with us without her there we just had wonderful support and wonderful wrap around from everybody so I'm going to hand this now to Hannah [Music] hello I'm Hannah I'm in sixth grade I'm a driver and I'm co-captain of this team next up is Michael hi my name is Michael Isaac and I'm a drive full and a [Applause] [Laughter] just a quick description of our metal so our metals are for placing in our division and placing in world so we had not given the medals yet we wanted to save this for this extraordinary experience here today so thank you for letting us do that all right [Applause] well staying on the academic Trail in terms of success at all levels of competition Central Middle School was an academic Super Bowl State finalist so Mr Payne or let's see coming forward this is the first time they've ever been this shy all right guys line up here that's true all right thank you for the opportunity to come and recognize these students uh we competed a couple weeks ago in the Indiana academic Super Bowl we hosted it for the first time so I want to thank Nick Williams and the tech crew for helping us put this all together and for our custodial staff and the volunteers that helped put this together so it was a great opportunity to actually host we had a seventh grade team and an eighth grade team so we had two teams in the five categories they compete in math science English social studies and interdisciplinary and they asked they answer 25 questions over the course of the time and they have a certain amount of time to answer each question and so we had our interdisciplinary team our seventh grade team finished as runner-up in the state and we had two state champions my coaches are Mindy Summers does the English Beth flamion does math Maddie klopenstein does science and Carly udy does social studies and I will let them tell you a little bit more uh yes I'm was the coach of the social studies team we actually came in first won the state competition it's the first time in Central's history that we have actually won the competition we've come in the top ten before but never won it very proud of our seventh graders for winning and obviously we have a great chance for next year so I was the I was the science Bowl coach and um like Jay was saying we had a seventh grade team we had an eighth grade team our seventh grade team ended up finishing first in the state with a score of 22 out of 25 correct questions which was pretty awesome um I'm a fairly new teacher so this was our first major victory which is very very exciting um but we'll go ahead and let the kids introduce themselves just say your name wrong ah um uh I was on amadithia I was on uh the interdisciplinary Bowl team the math bowl team and the English world team I'm suji pingali um I was on social studies and math I'm darnish um sadarshan and I was on um so study science and interdisciplinary absentee Vikram and I was on method science and I was on interdisciplinary science and social studies I'm Zoe pan I was a math English and interdisciplinary all right and again they're seventh graders so we're hoping that maybe we'll be back here next year with a couple more state titles so uh if you guys want to go ahead and walk around and shake their hands [Applause] nature South Side might be outside for a photo before before we leave this part of the meeting would it be possible could I ask the parents of all the students who are just recognized I realized that South Side folks might have left but would the parents please stand and be recognized we want to thank you for your students and the support that you give your students parents of the [Applause] okay Mr stinner we've taken some time to recognize students and the coaches and staff that work with them we're now going to take a moment to recognize our 2023 bcsc retirees so Dr pleek see at the beginning of this school year every year we always start with our first recognition as our teacher of the year for bcsc and as you've seen the last several meetings we've had opportunities to celebrate a lot of great employees we say this one as our last recognition one for the year our employees I will let you know that we have 36 employees at this time that have submitted their retirement and of those 24 are classified and 12 are certified and Mr Burnett has a video that we are going to watch foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign 36 employees that have re submitted their retirement intent based on from the last time we had our last retirement celebration last May so not all of them were in attendance but I think it's still worth to call their name and say how many bcsc years of experience that they have so at this time when I call your name please come up and we'll line up and then we'll be recognized by the board collectively at the end we'll start with our classified staff members Kathy Club bus driver 35 years Mark Mark Coomer bus driver 22 years Donnell Cantrell 36 years custodial skills trade Shirley [Applause] presentation time [Music] [Applause] we're sharing we're sharing that Todd already went for it yeah Preamble or just wait a couple minutes [Music] supposed to see [Applause] thanks thanks to everyone for their participation in the recognition part of the meeting at each of our meetings we also like to have a presentation that focuses on a best practice at one of our schools Dr Roberts could you introduce the best practice tonight please okay Mr stinner so tonight's best practice is Northside Middle School and we have principal Evan Burton and assistant principal Monica notestine here to present information for us thank you good evening school board and cabinet members and any audience members still left this evening as already introduced my name is Evan Burton I'm the principal at Northside Middle School this is my first year as principal at Northside after spending seven years as the assistant principal I am also a former Spartan so it brings me a joy to talk to you this evening about some of the things going on at Northside a little bit of a history lesson before we get started with best practice this evening Northside was um arranged by architect Harry whis in 1961 the original three-story brick rectangle is on the right hand side of the photo up there as you can see it does house an outdoor indoor area as I call it with the courtyard there in the middle that's a nice classroom space for our teachers and students on weather days like today it was renovated and added onto in 1992 by Andrea liers and Jane weinstaffle with the Limestone secondary rectangle there to the left of the photo has a variety of roof lines that replicate the feeder elementary schools that newer building if the 90s is still considered new was again has a large Commons area in the middle it has a double barrel cafeteria ceiling and six large science labs in our science Wing we received HVAC upgrades in 2004 a new roof in 2013 and most excitedly as far as construction and additions go a 343 kilowatt solar panel system that you can see that covers almost the entirety of the original brick rectangle and a large portion over on the left side of the Limestone building and those were installed in 2020. so if anybody would like a tour of the roof it's one of my favorite field trips I'd be happy to take you up there those are something to see as also on the previous slide Northside is the home of the Spartans current enrollment is just over 850 students and just 7th and eighth grade as the rest of bcsc we are growing and flourishing with our diversity celebrating our 15th year of Global Studies pathway at Northside and part of that pathway is the ability for seventh graders when they enter Northside to start to earn high school credits right away so this is an area of Pride for north side at the completion of the 22-23 school year Northside students will have earned 1 204 high school credits so as we get into a little bit more of the presentation this evening at Northside for the last two years we've used the Mantra all in for um and so what does it mean to be all in at North Side as stated previously it can be a challenge to feel connected in just seventh and eighth grade and so we like to say that you're either headed in or you're headed out with just those two grade levels so something that I think all Educators can agree on is that kids do better when they have a sense of community and purpose and when school gets difficult it's those activities that help sustain students through those School through those School times so it is best practice at Northside during those two years to offer all kinds of different opportunities through different media and modes so that Northside students can be all in as we consider the opportunities that we offer at Northside we look at three main barriers and trying to remove or minimize those barriers and first we look at time so we do offer a variety of activities before school and after school and then as you'll hear a little bit later we have an Ever growing list of activities that take place during the school day we also look at money so great care is taken to reduce or eliminate cost if possible no matter what the activity many of our clubs and our Athletics don't have any cost to them and when it comes to Athletics our athletic department uses funds to offset or defray as much of that cost as possible to families and then finally we look at grades coming in as 7th and 8th graders that's really the first time that students might start to take grades seriously and as we know academics matter when it comes to school however we don't want students to feel excluded from that if that's a barrier for them so the past two years we've been able to create an after-school tutoring program that is free to all Northside students it's offered Mondays Tuesdays and Thursdays after school for about an hour it's staffed from Northside certified staff members the ratio in there is is about three students to one staff member so it's pretty good one-on-one attention if you're if you're seeking that extra help and again those are our barriers that we look at to ensure that all students have the opportunity to be involved weather North Side good evening and I'm Monica newstein I'm northside's assistant principal and I am a former Northside student myself and product of bcsc so I cannot tell you how excited I am to be up here tonight and talking about our wonderful staff and students one of our academic team opportunities is our math counts program led by one of our department chairs Brad Branham math counts is a middle school math competition aimed at building math and problem solving skills we had a little over 30 members this year and they achieved first place at state in addition to math counts we also have other Academic Teams such as science social studies and other interdisciplinarian teams which all place in the top 10 during their challenge this past winter each season we offer a variety of athletic opportunities as the changes as the seasons change and so for this school year alone we had 376 Spartans participate in a Northside sport from our media center Mrs Sarah niece is in her first year leading this space we have had many Hands-On learning opportunities for students to engage with during the school hours which we take pride on because many of our opportunities are are being provided to students during the school day so they do not have to necessarily come back after hours and some of these activities consist of bookmark creation maker space and book character decorating challenge with which the kids thoroughly enjoy as you can see here we have a bulletin board that hangs just right outside of our cafeteria and you will notice 25 clubs sponsored by Northside teachers based on student interest so between Athletics and clubs we had a total of 682 students participate which is approximately 80 percent of our student population so we are very proud of our students and staff at this time Mr Burton is going to introduce one of our club activities which is the urban Greenhouse Club so we we thought we would Spotlight one of our newer clubs for you all this evening so this club started two years ago it's sponsored by our family consumer science teacher Ann Freeman and it was started with Mrs Freeman and her daughter Annabelle Freeman who is now at Purdue as a part of Annabelle's senior project and so this club uh so I'm going to talk a little bit about it but then I'll be quiet and let the students and Mrs Freeman talk about it with a video but this club does lots of things for Northside they take care of and cultivate our Courtyard they also have sectioned off a part of our Courtyard that Mrs Freeman uses to grow products for her family consumer science class as a little bit of a farm to table when when we are operating in that class so again as this video plays please understand that as I said this is a greenhouse Club so we are in the elements when we have recorded this video so there may be some wind and some other things as we try to highlight the things that go on in the greenhouse and then in this Courtyard foreign [Laughter] [Music] by accident coming in hot honestly it was established in 2020 by Annabelle Frank which is our fast teacher I'm the sponsor of the greenhouse I'm going to let our wonderful students tell you what happens in this amazing Club it's about Urban Greenhouse it was established in 2020 by Annabelle Frank which is our fast teachers daughter and um all these plants that we grow here we grow plants from produce all the way to herbs all go to our facts our facts class we use them and they're all fresh and all watered very nicely and all of them all the soil is very uh all the soil is very uh or organic and very clean so all the plants are really healthy another project we've been working on is our native plants band in partnership with this in quarterly trust so for the past two years we've been taking patients species out of the courtyard that includes like burning Woods or Mulberry wheat and those all restrict the growing plants but we've been taking all of those out and replacing the locative plants and that's all been with sick so they can grow better and we sell those through winter and all this wouldn't have been possible without our Turtle donors um that is the Sycamore land trust and uh um Jane Goodall Foundation we have been busy developing a second part of our garden our raised beds and our chocolates to grow more vegetables for the facts classroom Isaac Urban group busy group leader I have been very busy with building these pet boxes nms Greenhouse is a wonderful nurturing environment that I'm very proud to be part of the kids learn a lot of real life world skills and I'd like to thank all our donors that have made this project possible so don't say that you are warned about being out in the elements I'm sorry for for the wind there but again thank you for the opportunity to speak to you this evening and and highlight some of the good things that Northside has going on thank you Mr Burton in this next time I wonder if we might have some questions from board members Mr Allen oh you made eye contact so I'm calling on you well so I'm impressed with was what was it 25 different clubs do the students have a way if they want to start a new club that they they can do that absolutely so that board changes every year and throughout the year this year we've added film club last year we added a skateboard club and so students will come to whether it's one of us or a faculty member if they have an idea the faculty member will come to us and we'll work through how to set that up and communicate with families and the net board changes throughout the year when we have new clubs come in yes I think I noticed in the presentation about half the student body is able to participate in sports when you add in the club activities how close do you get to 100 participation in something so we had roughly 80 percent of our student population so 376 participated in a sport and then between sports and clubs it was 682 students participating which gave us the 80 percent so that is always an ongoing goal for us thank you for focusing on reducing those barriers any other questions thank you for the presentation we appreciate it Mr Allen has a question not a question but I wanted to just add that I want to thank both of you for coming back to bcsc thank you we've reached the point in the agenda where we're ready for board commendations do we have any board commendations tonight [Music] are we starting with later okay um I actually was going to mention one of these last time I didn't but in the past month um both East and North put on outstanding theater Productions East theater Department put on the play Beyond Juliet and the north drama club Put on the play Tinkerbell and there was tremendous amount of Talent on the stage at both schools and a lot of appreciation in the audiences um also Columbus North had two academic teams qualify for the state finals they competed in the state finals this past Saturday at Purdue University the north science team and I apologize for mispronouncing names before I start the north science team of Prisa murugudi Grace Huang Adrian Perez Michael Crossman and HP Dava Gupta finished fifth in the state and their coaches John Murphy and the math team led from start to finish and defended their State title so it's their second year in a row that they won the state the members of the math team are Michael Crossman harshal Gandhi Grace Huang ishan jasuja and Jay ning Wong and their coaches Mike Spock I have two also one I wanted to thank the bcsc C4 culinary team I believe they're pictured in the top left here but placing 14th in the National ProStar Invitational in Washington D.C based on my information this is the highest finish for India in the Indiana team so they not only represented bcsc well but also all the Hoosiers across our state the second was Operation Safe prom and the coordinators they're in I did a little bit of research just to understand this but according to the National Highway Traffic Association approximately 1100 students pass away due to prom related deaths every year nearly a third of all these teen deaths happen during prom season as a parent I can only imagine the pain that this would cause just after celebrating such a joyous occasion I start this off because on May 4th I had the privilege of attending Operation Safe problem right here at my alma mater Columbus North High School this program has been going on for 33 years and depicts a live-action drama of the tragedies that ensue after an intoxicated student crashes into a tree with its date sustaining fatal injuries and the tree is still there it's been going on for 33 years and taken the hit and in that to this day I still remember attending that exact same drama in 2007 and I know a lot of my classmates felt this the same and I firmly believe that this is how bcsc has been able to Buck the trend if we were to hold with the rate of national deaths we would have seven students have passed away over these 33 years I think it's great the efforts that these folks put in my predecessor in this seat Kathy day Hof Dwyer and also all of Bartholomew County Emergency Services the sheriff department CPD City Works Columbus Regional Hospital the coroner and 9-1-1 dispatch are all intricate in making that a successful attract or a successful drama to prevent such a tragedy thanks Mr Grant um I just have one here this evening and this is kind of a general accommodation to all the teachers in bcsc May is kind of loosely designated as national teacher month and and some districts across the U.S several braided teacher appreciation week last week some this week some a little bit of both but you know certainly I would argue that that good teachers are the backbone of any good school corporation and and for lack of a better term they're the ones in the trenches working with kids and making the real good stuff happen in the corporation and after 31 years in education myself I would also argue being a teacher for a number of reasons has not become any easier over the course of those years and you know for one reason a big reason Dr Roberts shared an article with this that I recently read about kids declining mental health as arguably the biggest Public Health crisis of our time and so that along with so many other reasons you know much appreciation and accommodations to to the teachers out there thank you Mr major do you have anything I do not okay so uh to stick with the trend that I've been doing I reached out to two different uh principles I was able to get one response from CSA new tech and this is from Mr Reed I'm happy to share with you some cool things happening in CSA new tech project-based learning is a primary instructional practice at CSA last year biology students Bill beehives for four Community Partners and helped install their own colonies they also installed a hive at CSA new tech and continue to care for that Colony today last Friday their cherry tree was blessed with a wild swarm of bees several of the students suited up and transferred the swarm with the queen included to a new Hive adjacent to their current Colony the entire school was able to witness this and they celebrated the event it was uh pretty cool because he also sent along some pictures obviously I don't I don't have those to share but you did see in the windows kids faces plastered against the glass just trying to see from a safe distance because obviously no one wants to get stung so but it is pretty cool that the kids are doing this and also that they're doing this in the community so thank you thank you Dr Roberts you got a number of photos on the slide up there did we miss anything I don't think so those that is teacher appreciation week last week was a a I think it's Monday was uh principal's day I think this week Wednesday is National nurse school Nurses Day there's a variety of days recognizing Educators in the last from last week to this week but this is the week that we are specifically focusing on trying to celebrate All Educators and we do mention that Mr stinner I'm glad you've you've asked about that is that yeah says National teachers or or principals or whatever the case might be we have 2000 staff members and we we consider each of them as Educators because of the impact they have on our students each day so from the bus drivers custodians Food Service workers teachers in the classroom whoever that might be a lot of impact happening each day with those Educators thank you very good we also have time this evening for school board member reports any school board members I'll go ahead and start that was just kind of typewriter this back to Dale so um the Health Trust did meet on the 26th uh we talked a lot about enrollment and costs that were really steady over the last year we celebrated Mr Green's retirement with some brownies and uh appreciated his 21 years on the trust we talked about reviewing bylaws in the future and backfill processes for committee leadership we also talked about investigating possibly even expanding the committee so that we have a lot more people to have more experience over time with this trust we felt that that would help with building learning retaining members we talked about future benefits that we're considering we talked about changes in the clinic when it moves to Nexus Park in the future and how we hope to be able to provide more openings if we can so good things coming from the Health Trust it was really positive for me to to hear especially that enrollment and costs were steady knowing that costs are kind of increasing in several areas through so uh that and thank you to Mr Green I don't think he's here now but thank you for the 21 years is a long time so thank you Mr major uh Mr Grimes uh yeah the school foundation will meet um tomorrow but some other news from the school Foundation last Saturday I guess April 29th uh we held a 5k at Southside and we're able to present Mr Darren Johnson 35-year teacher current C4 architecture teacher with the Grimes Wallace out of the box teaching award and that was our third annual and we hope to have many more of those legislative report All 48 bills that the School Board Association tracked over the course of the last one and a half weeks of this long session became became law and 12 of them were still on the docket on the final day the house wrapped up I believe about 2 A.M on Saturday morning and the Senate wrapped up a little after 3 A.M that morning and so lots of last second modifications to the state budget as well all kinds of legislation of note some to do with textbook fees FAFSA financial responsibility class to be added to the high school curriculum to high school Career Development the list kind of goes on and on and so I believe myself and maybe three other board members and Dr Roberts will attend the region 10 School Board Association meeting Wednesday evening in Seymour and I'm sure we will learn a lot more details about the budget the bills and an update on some of the court cases that will affect some of our decisions moving forward and then lastly the meeting agenda subcommittee we plan to the next meeting have our recommendations before the board as uh I guess you could say a first reading to be acted upon in in July and so we we certainly have agreed to and have come up with some meeting idea suggestions to consider moving forward thank you thank you Mr grams Mr Schulz um nothing covered at cicc meets tomorrow or Wednesday in the morning and uh like Mr Grimes attending the isba functions great thank you Mr Nowlin um yes the council for Youth Development and the Indiana youth Institute held it joint session out at the Columbus Learning Center on May 4th last week bcsc was well represented Dr hack was there several counselors were there other bcsc people were there it was two hours of really good data that looked at how Bartholomew County was doing compared to how the state was doing some things we were doing pretty well other things we have things we need to work on I rather than tell you all that I got enough extra copies of the youth development index so that is from the council for Youth Development and then up in the corner I wrote the Indiana youth Institute it's pretty easy web address iyi.org but when you don't have 62 pages of policies to look at it's a great website to go through and there's there's a general data section and then there's also a a page for each County that you can really dig in and look at data of for Bartholomew County and how we compare the state and they also I I should mention um the Indiana youth Institute um was very appreciative that that our County shares data with them so they can do their work thank you Mr nellon um Mr Grimes shared update from his subcommittee the subcommittee on public engagement we'll meet again a week from tonight Monday the 15th uh 6 p.m at the admin building we are not as far along as Mr Grimes and and his subcommittee but we're making good progress and we will help bcsc do a better job of public engagement in the future I'm sure um cabinet reports is next on the agenda Dr Roberts the first one we have is a food service update with Dr Boseman and Mrs millswell good evening thank you for allowing us a little bit of time I'll introduce Nancy milspa to lead through the presentation Nancy will explain to you how we run the the largest restaurant in the County serving thousands of students and adults every day and she does so in a fine way with uh Happy Happy customers and employees in a few openings something else I'll share with you today is um the menu options that she'll provide that she provides our students are not you know I don't know where you grew up or where I grew up Friday was my favorite day because we have pizza squares and they were pretty good and that was probably the only thing that was good from the school cafeteria and that's not the case uh here at bcsd so we're proud of that as well and I'll let Nancy explain more thanks Dr Bozeman thank you Dr Roberts and cabinet members for allowing me to talk about our program this evening um bcsc we run actually four different Child Nutrition programs through our district we do the national school lunch program School breakfast program the after-school SNAP program for schools that qualify in the summer feeding program um Food Service funding I always like to kind of remind people of this it's a little bit different we don't actually operate out of the operations funds for our budget it's actually self-supporting and that is through student meals we get Federal reimbursement for those meals as long as we're serving ones that qualify and then we also get our funds from non-federal funds from adult meals or a la carte sales and and some catering throughout the district on the reimbursable meals that we do provide they have to meet certain nutrition requirements uh set forth by USDA they have to have certain nutrition standards and sodium calories fat certain subgroups whole grains proteins and fruits and milk and some changes with USDA they're proposing some changes for school year 25 26.

recommendation is regarding the Strategic plan if the Strategic plan is approved by you tonight we we do propose that for this goal and we would include the beginning implementation of the plan monitoring and progress reporting on the plan and make that progress report available to all of our stakeholders in a similar format to the equity dashboard with regular updates so it would be updated as often as we update our method yes yes and next we'll ask Miss Johnson the chief of HR to review people goals good evening Madam president Dr Smith and members of the board as we look at our board goals for human resources our first goal is that all employees will participate in common District develop PD for all job classifications as we look at our Equity work on onboarding and just ongoing Equity PD in all divisions in our schools cultural competence and the racial bias safe schools module looking at our second goal looking at how we intentionally focus on our International and bilingual hiring with our Baseline being this particular year 22-23 looking forward to tabulating that at the end of this year um increasing our racial and ethnic staff diversity by three percent through Recruitment and Retention and really as we are looking at ways in which we are retaining our staff our certified staff and our classified staff and going deeper with that this year as it dovetails with our strategic plan recruiting and retaining 90 percent of District effective and highly effective teachers our principals and leaders are all working on end of the year evaluations and so that data will be forthcoming as this school year concludes next we'll look at our goals regarding operations and financial ask Mr miles to review these thank you Dr Hoss Brown Madam president Dr Smith members of the board as we look at operations and finance these goals will look familiar to you from what we've seen in the past with a notable exception first goal there in the bullet points we see that the cash balance goal that we've we've had this a similar goal to this for a while now but we suggest that it's increased from a 13 million dollar cash balance in our education fund at the end of the year I'm sorry for from a 12 to a 13 at this time which would be in effect end of this end of December this year um that's that's an important goal for us again uh bullet point number two all taxing funds maintaining a positive balance again at the end of the fiscal year again being uh 12 31 and once again our increase our minority vendor spend by three percent that was a goal that we had set a couple years ago and we've been able to achieve that so we'd like to continue that and just increase continue increasing in that area and finally in the area of Safety and Security we'll ask Mr Roger Smith to review these Madam president members of board Dr Smith again Safety and Security is a high priority of msdlt and we will continue with the requirements per the Indiana code which also directs Us in an emergency preparedness plans and also drills both monthly and per semester reimbursed a security checklist for each of the buildings reviewed in update board policies and guidelines and I'm sure we're going to have a few starting in July this year expand and updating our internal School plan this is both through renovation as well as our staffing and including new equipment okay um I have several questions but I'm going to ask our board first or Miss Dunn do you have a moment yes uh Miss Lawrence I have a few um on student achievement uh why are we limiting I think I have an understanding of of this but why are we looking at three years as being The Benchmark for students in achievement at 80 percent this would be for our I read goal and so for students who have been with us we need to hold ourselves accountable to the high percentage of proficiency for students who move in in January and then test in March we really can't expect to be holding ourselves accountable for those two months of instruction but they those students still show up on our proficiency results and so it's important that we disaggregate that again students who've been with us for three years there should be no reason that we don't hit 80 percent students who move in are more transient there's some other issues that are going on with that okay I see you looking at me do you have a follow-up question to that okay I appreciate that um and when we talk about accelerated growth within the um the different communities what does that mean so and this one in particular is about the same I read three goal the 80 and so one of the the analysis points that I do is look at each subgroup and how close are they to that goal already so for example for that particular one our white students are performing at a 77 percent proficiency rate where our other subgroups are much lower than that and so in order to reach 80 percent as a district we have to move our Black and Hispanic subgroups much higher than what we are now in order to reach 80 percent Mr noder is that also tied to our Equitable student outcome our Equity work this is the definition of Equitable student outcomes so I do have a question if you don't mind that Remax on that and I think it's what we talked about when we were doing the superintendents evaluation that in the um rubric on 2.2 it talks about the average of the student population improves as does the achievement of each group of students as previously be been identified as needing and needing Improvement and so I'm just wondering if there could be alignment with the rubric and how we're phrasing our board goals are you talking about um growth of 10 the number of students meeting grade level proficiency I just think the accelerated growth because I think this gets to the average of the student population improves which is what we wanted to see the first bullet point on that page that we're talking about I think just in general like when we think about accelerated growth I think the same thing could be said is that there's average growth improves which we want to see for everybody but that specifically the achievement of each group has improved because I do want to name I think it's important to name that even 80 percent for our Caucasian students I think we could have a higher bar for them and so that's why I'm just wondering if we look at the average growth follow-up question to that is there a reason why we didn't attribute numbers to those populations in terms of percent increase we're not finished with our Baseline for this year so June 2024 is after the second administration of I read we still have our second Administration for 2023 to go so then we'll have Baseline data at that point thank you so I I'm not sure let me see if I let me see if I understand what you're saying I missed on so I I think what we talked about before and the board has talked about this and we mentioned it to Dr Smith what um when we say um I'm I'm on this page so it's student achievement page two it looks like um growth of 10 the number of students meeting grade level proficiency on District Benchmark Etc um I'm curious why we don't phrase it the same way we do for I read three with accelerated growth in specific subgroups that need accelerated growth because and what I will name is that um if we continue if if we have groups that are achieving in these at this level okay and they all grow ten percent we've institutionalized uh and and achievement achievement Gap and right we so so I guess if we could phrase that growth is there a reason we can't phrase that growth similarly to the way we phrase the third grade students so accelerated growth is there is there any reason not to do that um for that particular goal it was because our white students are so close to that 80 but if we go back to the graduation goal for example and we look at the percentage of our students who are achieving academic honors or Technical Honors diplomas we have got significant growth needed in every subgroup so yes we do need accelerated growth out of our largest subgroups but we need our white students to grow they're only at a 52 percent sure for academic and Technical Honors so we need growth out of every single subgroup and so it's important for our community to understand that every single student matters and that yes where the data tells us we certainly will state in unequivocally that we need accelerated growth where all students have room to grow grow we've got to stay focused on all of our subgroups to make sure that all of our students grow because there's two ways to decrease the achievement Gap one way is for a rising tide lifts all boats another way is for our highest achieving subgroup to not achieve anymore while we're getting accelerated growth out of our other subgroups and you close the gap that way as well and so at previous boards have asked that we maintain that high expectation for our highest achieving subgroups as well but we certainly could look at the wording of that if you'd like I agree that I believe that can't leave any single student we're focused on individual students in Lawrence Township we can't leave any single student out however what I was thinking of is sort of the way we phrase our rigor growth so rigor is you know two percent growth until you get to this place absolutely um so maybe looking at some way to say that and you know you know 10 growth until you get to what's the last grouping you know college ready or something absolutely you know maybe 10 growth till you get to that final place and so we wouldn't not that we would um we're done so much work on high ability we're not going to stop um we're not going to stop um making sure our high ability students have everything they need for personal and academic growth and we certainly could add that language into each goal the way the goals are written there's only one goal where we don't need Improvement out of I mean drastic improvement out of every single subgroup and that's the I read three goal and that's why it's worded the way it is but we certainly could add in that threshold that you're talking about what do you think Ford what are your feelings on this yes Troy how can we put this question and simple as it possible she has a really fundamental question and I'm not sure I really under I don't know what rubric you're talking about so we are tasked to evaluate the superintendent and part of the superintendent superintendent's rubric when we look at domain 2.0 is instructional leadership and so the superintendent demonstrates evidence of student Improvement through student achievement results and the way that it's worded is something that I think all of us were aligned on I don't want to speak for the all members of the board but it felt like there was consensus that the average of the student population improves so again to your point that we don't want to leave any student behind but we are as does the achievement of each group of students that has previously been identified as needed Improvement and so I think that that to me gets to the point that you are making is that everybody's improving and so I think part of this too is not knowing the I read three assessment data the preliminary data that was released earlier this spring and knowing what is the percentage of our current students that pass so is 80 percent even because I understand it's probably not public knowledge it's embargo right is 80 even a realistic goal for our Caucasian students and so that's where I I feel like we need a little bit more data to know where our current students are at to be able to make really informed goals that are really designed to meet the needs of every single student in this District sure so Ms Donna I would agree um and this is my own ignorance as the first time we're talking about in in going through these goals um will we can we expect to have a number attributed before these are finally approved by the board well that that's your timeline and so you guys would would decide that I will say that I wouldn't bring you a percentage number that wasn't already well vetted and well researched and so I do have the data I can't share it in a public meeting at this point we do have the second round of I read three data that will be coming between May and June and so we'll have all that data ready but it wouldn't be until July that I would be free to be able to share that in the public meeting but I wouldn't bring you a number that I didn't think was attainable one of the conversations with last year's board is we set some very ambitious goals around student achievement and we've achieved some of those very ambitious goals if you don't set them ambitiously you won't achieve them that's the bottom line and so some of them are ambitious and we've had schools rise to to that occasion and so um I would error on the side of ambitious goals and maybe we do have some some subgroups that don't meet them but when you set them ambitiously then we work hard to make sure that we're doing the very best we can to achieve them so I wouldn't bring you a number that I hadn't already vetted and hadn't already researched and felt confident that we can get there it's going to be hard work it's going to be take Focus but that's been true with every student achievement point that data point that we've achieved over the last several years so our schools know how to mobilize around board goals and they take them very seriously but if they're not said ambitiously then we won't see that accelerated growth that we need to see questions to my right Miss Norman oh miss Dunn already commented on the rubric the 2.2 the wording so I think we're on the same page for that okay I do I I do have a question about the equity work yes and so I um obviously am is super appreciative of the work that everyone in cabinet along with all of our teachers our assistants everybody in this district is working hard one of the things that I'm noticing though when I look at the dashboard is some of when we get into the nuts and bolts that some of our metrics we said we were going to be working on in Spring and springs coming to a close and it was updated in for example March and so I'm wondering if we can expect the dashboard to be updated with the most recent data from the spring work process last week it's on the superintendent's desk today let's give it to him today so then once he approves it it'll be flip the switch and okay absolutely thank you that's good um attention somebody's reading the dashboard if there are no more comments I just want to say that um back in the day school board made up our board goals and about maybe eight years ago I don't know Mr gaglin you may remember maybe about eight years ago we said you know really we need the cabinet's help to set these board goals um you you're the owners of the data and you know our our buildings our culture our um and I just appreciate so much the hard work you do to bring us these preliminary goals and um board if you don't have any more questions tonight but some bubble up please email them to the to the board and to Dr Smith and we will continue to have a discussion about them by email um Madam president bring up your questions that can be answered Madam president can I add I thank the board with two years of covet we were working in board goals well into the fall yeah so board you are well ahead of the game so thank you for your allowing us to be on the agenda today because it would be nice to have these board goals before the start of the new school year so thank you very much that was my whole platform on time so superintendent I do have a question about in president Mustin when will we how long do we have to really think about the goals put our own thoughts given the fact that there was some Synergy around 2.2 um is that something that we'll work on during our executive session I guess I'm just trying to figure out a timeline for the public I mean ideally um if if if we're happy with the board goals as they look we can move forward with them at the end of the month at our at our regular meeting or we can move forward with them at our June meeting um but I would like to have them know later than our June meeting because on July 1st we start a new year and I would really be appreciative if we could have that done before July 1st so that when our administrators walk into their offices July 1st they know what's expected that's good thank you and and I just you know what I had just a couple more questions here that I didn't um that I didn't ask and this would be for Miss Johnson um I noticed um that first of all it took me a couple weeks I am very sorry to say it took me a couple weeks to really absorb the culture report we got a few weeks ago and what was super exciting to me one of the things that was super exciting was that the PD participation um was rated very high our teachers really appreciate what what they're getting out of their professional development and that made me gloriously happy that you know it was sometimes I'm under the impression that they're all dragging into PD not so they're very appreciative and it and they said it helps with retention that's really great that's really great um so here's the other question we're asking that we have a very high retention rate is that does that leave us enough room to increase our staff diversity by three percent as well because I notice this year our retention rate is even a little higher so um that still leaves us enough wiggle room to increase the diversity by three percent I believe so okay okay so um you know that the district rate you're looking at goal number three is it was that 51 at the end of 21 22 so we'll be bringing you where we are for this year it's a snapshot on any given day because of the ins and the outs sure thank you very much um and Mr Smith the emergency and preparedness drills I think when my kids were here you know when I was a kid we had um we got under our desks in case there was a nuclear explosion overhead I'm not sure yeah that's old school so I know we're not doing that but you know when my kids were here I think we had um tornado drills fire drills so so you know they were taught to go in the in the hallway whatever times have changed what are emergency and preparedness drills like these days we still continue with the fire on a monthly basis in each building and then each semester we'll start the first 60 days we'll do a a an active shooter drill and also buildings have uh during fire drills they'll also Implement active shooter drills at the same time to again uh if you will train our students and staff have the proper way to handle in case of emergency and then also once uh semester will also do tornadoes and the state has added uh earthquake drills as well sorry to hear we have to do that but I'm glad we're doing it I want to ask about that um just to follow up as far as active shooter drill is there any um components of SEL because I would think that I don't know with with my children if I'm teaching them to be ready for something the next question is well why do I have to get ready for this so the question is are there any tools or things that we have for our children that is that that that would be kind of fearful why am I having to do this are there any components there I I think it's uh it's a conversation to have about before or after the drills uh every situation is different uh knowing you're building uh where to go what to do uh is very important to have that conversation and going through the motions uh is good for students and staff so is we don't like to publish our safety drills what we do and how we do it our plans of the are our buildings to the public that's for us so I think a good conversation in the building and our buildings are doing a good job of that as well and that's so that's the point that I was um that was on my heart was the fact of is it something that a parent would have to do but then you would have to give notice that there is a drill or is it something that we would allow teachers to talk about or allow the children to have that time to just kind of um Express why is this happening why are we doing this we know that we prepare for fires because there's a you know fire drill um so that's kind of where I was at with it so I think just a general conversation on a weekly monthly basis uh the changes in our society what's happening could also happen in our schools anyone know what our building plans are could we inform parents that in the first 60 days we will have an active shooter drill so now might be the time to speak to your child and these are the points or could we bring in you know for for one of our parent meetings could we bring in um a facilitator to to talk to our parents either in person or online about what to say to your children how to prepare them for understanding that we would be happy to from a Safety and Security standpoint of any time that we can help educate our parents and our community of what we do not necessarily when or where but the processes that we do take I'm Roger Smith team I think we fully understand why the board's asking this question the number of shootings that have taken place in public places has certainly increased this isn't new to us we've been about two decades into this so it's generational the the requirements Roger is speaking to are required by the state I can remember the first time we started this after Columbine if I remind everyone which was probably a little bit over 23 24 years ago to be exact at the time I was a principal and then it became part of Statute that we do this so I'll have Mr Smith look at what we currently do I know schools handle this very well and we need to adjust with some form of communication I think we can do that but I want the public to be rest assured this is not just something we do casually it's a part of the culture of our Public Schools today Roger and Jim Paris work very closely with local police to do training in our facilities so that they know our buildings backwards and forwards uh all of the building plans are in the hands of First Responders and the police correct Roger and they do trainings inside of our schools so the local officials are very familiar with our buildings and of course even with the new construction they will be very familiar with our setup so good point sport I just don't have a question I believe that we've had um that even our Administration has said training at the FBI headquarters we've had training Roger Smith uh make sure that all of our administrators are trained through the Safety Academy for the state and yes the superintendent did do FBI training at one time it's been some time ago but Roger make sure that all of our new administrators administrators as whole go through the state safety training they do a fabulous job I would validate the state of Indiana does a great job with training school administrator in school safety Ms Dunn had a question no I just wanted to appreciate uh secretary Puckett for the question because I also think while the school shootings in preparing is a horrible horrible reality of where we are living in our current state I also have just reflecting on a time when I was working with English Learners we have a number of students we know that we're welcoming to the district that are from Central America refugees Haitians and so many of the drills that we are are conducting in our schools are not something that is typically done and I recall a time when a student was sobbing hysterically because it brought back trauma of being um in a very very traumatic event and so I think the more that we can help both our families and our students understand all the drills that we do here in the United States I think the better off will be so that we can prohibit those um instances when students are triggered I also have one question and my brain can't go to talking about kids so I'm not going to do that without because I will cry on the Deus and I don't want to do that our staff here in the lecc what are we doing to prepare them we have done some drills we also do la do do their drills just like any other school would do and we also have heightened the uh if you will the building hardening of this building we also have security out here because we are public so we have a lot of traffic so having an officer here does make a difference as we do the day-to-day business drills we haven't done all of them but we fire drills we have done and Jim and I matter pack talked about uh the fact that you know as we look at our new building displays all of our all of our offices have the um emergency evacuation plans and where to go what to do in any of those type of events so we'll continue to work as we uh move forward with especially central office we want everybody to remain safe in ignorant question we do have students in this building from you know throughout the year so they they do the drills but we don't have our state yeah okay staff is different we do we participate with them when it does happen yeah and um I did want to I did want to commend the district um we all remember two years ago in April the incident at one of our elc's and I went through that as a parent and a school board member and the drills really prepared the kids be the teachers put their own needs the kids ahead of their own needs and my kids were very calm and safe when I picked them up and I really appreciate and allude that to our our District's plan and also for saving the person involved doing the first aid to standing yeah I have one other question that has nothing to do with safety maybe we could shift one other unless anybody else has a question one other question they had for you Mr miles if I recall um last year we exceeded our minority rate by a significant amount yes my brain is telling me 131 but maybe that's not quite right why only three percent increase this go around your brain was correct weeks uh did I get the number quite a bit right we actually exceeded the dollar amount by 1.8 million last year um and it was the percentage is almost silly it was like seven over seven thousand percent um so um you know I think the number is is probably um it's number one it's a historic number that we had had before the three percent um and it was established at that time with quite a bit of uh analysis of where we were one of the things that we have now that's in our favor um is we we have the ability to even our Amazon purchases for example we can we can look at that and drill down to um the actual supplier it's a number that we could we could definitely look at I believe um it's also a number that varies quite a bit with construction and other things that we do it's it's kind of a difficult one to to say because we don't spend the same amount year to year um so um I think the the intentionality is our main focus that we're always looking for ways that you know we can use a minority vendor as long as it's not um you know at the expense of tax taxpayer dollars obviously we want to make sure we're comparing Apples to Apples with what our purchases are and and the pricing um but certainly that that's kind of where the three percent came from um I think if we did three percent every year you know always I think that's that's a good good achievement but it's something we could look at it just might be the increase in the spend of the total District um so I I don't have that number in front of me but wondered if that is something that we've evaluated absolutely um and that's why we looked at it last year's kind of I the way that it was written um the question to me came up you know are we looking at number are we talking about three percent more vendors um versus dollars because they're two different things um so we actually looked at it both ways this this past year and exceeded it quite a bit and the number of vendors a little more difficult to to always get three percent there um but we did have a significant increase uh of 43 percent uh a number of vendors so uh to your point I think it is something that we could certainly look at to make sure that we are being as aggressive as possible um but but again we want to make sure we're we're just being front you know top of mind very much appreciate the goal I'm just challenging whether or not it's ambitious enough it's okay noted we won't be building two high schools for 20 years board so just know your spend is significant uh with the renovation of Lawrence Central Lawrence North High School we have a few vendors that come along Roger has hired um you know that have done very well that are minority vendors I think we'll see a significant number with our middle schools because that same attentionality is there on construction but the project is probably half the price of the high school so just keep that in mind certain certainly the large dollar spend um one of those one of one of our vendors specifically we spent on some furniture I believe it was um you know blew that blew the percentage out of out of the water on its own now can we go do that again next year that's going to be challenging so you think three percent good number I think it's a good number okay thank you for a really good conversation on our board goals I appreciate it very much and again any questions email them to the board and to Dr Smith and we'll get those answered and then we'll have a better idea whether we want to approve this at the end of May or we want to approve this in June but no later than June okay great and then um okay good okay now um so we're on to our action items we did uh put the approval of the 2326 strategic plan on today's docket do you want to approve that today you want to have more conversation or were we happy with the work of the strategic planning committee and he got yes I do have some questions so on the student achievement for our board goals our graduation rate we are stating that the percentage of students earning an academic honors or Technical Honors diploma by 5 in every subgroup however I'm noticing that the metrics that we're using the Baseline data for our 2022 grads is 20 black students with an with the goal of having 60 percent of graduates having earned an academic honors or Technical Honors diploma by 2026.

um and it's 30 credit hours uh I would be if I were to do the program I would have some sort of restricted licensure by following be fully accredited by um the year um and so Mr Lowry brothers that's me and I uh said I'd be well I would love to do that if the district would be willing to find that to pay for it for the tuition um so the tuition is 13 200 for the whole program um I would be willing to pay my own fees and you know pay for books and things like that uh Mr Lowry was was supportive of that idea so that's kind of the proposed library to you guys tonight um that way I yeah it could be be more qualified to teach the kids and you know be licensed on paper and everything would be nice um and so yeah and I will uh it's kind of a quick turnaround because obviously I started the summer so I will have to know about that tonight um because the application process is closing up pretty soon um I got the email today that I'm conditionally admitted as long as I get a as lots of districts sent a letter of intent to hire that they intend to hire me in this fall so so I bring that to you guys as a consideration I thank you for considering that Aaron yes if you want to comment on the diocese oh yes um so yeah I also don't know how much you've heard about this um the diocese did not decide to go through with the junior senior Catholic High School um and you should be kicked it around the parish council level we kicked it around the diocese level in the back of the parish council um and I think mainly is just a concern about raising that amount of money in that amount of time because obviously it's very short we think that you know we could eventually raise the money but two or three months isn't a lot so at least for for this next school year we did not plan to do do that so yeah and if you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer anything about that as well thank you okay Dave works yeah I put it to address the board and thank you as a board for what you've been through the last year uh I know you've had to make a lot of hard decisions that you don't necessarily find Pleasant even though all of you have children in this District I have five grandchildren right now uh four of which are uh second grade enrollment and I've heard everything from this Wilson uh High School thing to what not want to travel well uh Mike uh grandchild is in preschool and he gets on the bus at 10 minutes to seven I'm sorry ten minutes after seven and let's go to my second video my preschooler gets out at noon my other uh grade schooler get the first second grader gets off the bus at about a quarter to five I mean that's so I don't understand why high schoolers am taking a bus trip which only two showed up I believe under our acceptance we've held our arms open to have a high school for the kids to educate them read everything in the paper about how they have nowhere to go I don't understand why they consider us nowhere and I don't we've been we've been more than accepting and um I'm trying to figure this out and then what I understand we have a petition tomorrow and the petition states that they want to close the district and as I understand it and our something to that effect and and this tells me that they really don't care as a school board from the board however their representation is in town that they don't care whether they lose their grade school or not you know because I guarantee you if we close if we shut the district down they will disburse us we might be all right down here because we have a great number of students we might not but I just think that the people ought to understand that they're voting to close their grade school if they just park this because if they don't think that Sylvan Grove Russell uh and Ellsworth won't take those students they won't take the high schoolers because they can but you give them a little bit of time and the state appoints it you know this if you don't believe me talk to the illness you know I talked to the man and he's still in the game he's not active in payroll but he's still in the game and I tell you I just don't understand why we've been painted clapping now but what I don't hear uh 112.

the first time that they've ever done a limit for added sugars which is great but it might affect our students in some of the products that are favorites like flavored milk or yogurt actually will not meet the requirements that they are recommending at this time so we're looking for our industry to decrease sugar in some of the products um this is our school meal participation it's just August through December that's just some of the stats on the numbers that are eating with us that obviously in 2020 we were under some waivers to the federal government we were allowed to do no meal charging at that time the numbers are a little bit lower in 2021 that those are higher because again we weren't in school a lot in 2020 for various pandemic reasons and then for 2022 the waivers to offered the universal free meals were removed by USDA and so we have required to go back to a meal pricing program so our numbers are a little bit lower as expected but not too far off from prior to the to the pandemic one of the things that we do to increase the participation is offer like Dr Bosa mentioned a wide variety of foods we're on a five-week cycle menu these are some of our homemade products that we've started this year which went over very well with the students we do as SD broccoli cheese soup it's homemade I think it Rivals a lot of the rivals in the community that have bread and their their name of their title and we just did Eros con pollo for our Cinco de Mayo on Friday it was very well received by the students we also do a chicken bacon flatbread and that's gone over pretty well with the kids our summer feeding program even though schools are ending it a few weeks we're actually ramping up to feed some more students and again these are just our stats we do offer breakfast and lunch in various locations throughout the community this year it will be at three different schools Smith Northside or I'm sorry not North Side North here and also at Central we'll be serving meals but then we also partner with Community Partners like foundation for youth the Donor Center Community program with the Rex program a variety of programs like that we help out in the community with again you can see the numbers just skyrocketed during the pandemic when a lot of the regulations were removed and allowed us to do Universal meals it allowed us to go into various areas in the community and to do bag and go meals that stopped last year in 2022 and you can see the DraStic reduction in meals I don't think it's just because of the we still serve free meals but also parents are still receiving the pandemic EBT cards which allows them to have actual money at home during the summer when meals are not there to use so I think that affects the participation some with that um I do want to mention for our USDA program our summer Mill program we uh nationally 98 sponsors qualified for a gold silver or bronze level this is our second year to receive a silver medal we were one of nine School corporations in Indiana to receive that so we do try to offer a good variety of foods for the kids in the summer not just some basic stuff with meal pricing I am pleased to announce that we are not raising meal prices for next year for the students that actually under the healthy kids act in 2010 was a requirement to meet a national level to raise lunch prices to reach that level so we were always required each year pretty much we're always chasing that price but with the Appropriations act they are saying that as long as you had a positive or a zero balance as of June 30th your exempt from Raising lunch prices for next school year and we were in that that category so um just to be clear this doesn't actually apply for adult pricing because they aren't reimbursable meals and so we follow a formula through USDA that is based on the upcoming reimbursement rates with our school and USDA is usually very late at giving that to us like last minute so I probably will not know till June how it will affect adult pricing for the next school year and last but not least these are our food service employees of the month these are some of the smiling faces that do it every year or every day and get it done for the kids out there we're really proud of all these folks they make my job so much easier and they're just part of the you know a larger group of employees at bcsc that make this place a great place to work and a great place for our kids every day and if that's the rest of my presentation I'd be happy to answer your questions if you guys have any thank you Dr Bozeman thank you Miss Mills Paul questions from the board the the only question I have is recently the United Way did a large county-wide food drive to support love chapel Salvation Army and Community Center of Hope and there were numerous companies in the community that supported that they were predicting that there would be more need in this in the food pantries are we seeing something similar I know we had 20 21 and 22 do we have a like a estimate what we think this year is do we see that there's still a need for or I know there's a need but a large need for summer breakfast and lunch I I I think there is the need out there I think where we run into a problem is with some of the regulations are in place there are restrictions on where we can offer the meals to and how we offer them like we have had to go back to the congregate meal setting so we can't just give you a bag where you can take an eat it off site that really restricts people people have to load up their kids and come to you and they're not really as willing to do that in the summer if I've got six kids to put in the car I don't know if I'm making it down to Smith to eat lunch today you know so I think those are some of the restrictions I think the need is definitely still out there so yeah but I think again the pebt cards that go out in the summer there will be a summer issuance of those and that puts the money directly in the family's hands that they can go the grocery store and have the food at home when they can't make it out to us too so we're we're not seeing that group of people thank you where are some of those congregate sites that you mentioned well any place that we are offering the meals program this year it has to be a congregate site so it's going to be North High School as far as our schools it would be North Smith and Central and then the Donner Park uh that their shelter house is one also Heritage Heights Candlelight is also a spot our new one for this year is Ashford Park Apartments and then we also have sites that will be open at some of the title schools during like uh the week before school starts ramp up week to get kids in there my one of my questions was is um and it sounds like you already I heard Heritage Heights so what are the targeted efforts to make sure that this is available and visible to the title one communities like Taylorsville where not only are we have a remote issue where public transportation doesn't get you into the city but also a majority of a language barrier as well um the advertisements that we put out are in Spanish and in English that we have available for flyers for the students Josh helps us to post that on the website and gets it out I'm hoping parent through parent Square those type of opportunities that that we advertise anything else to be CSC it's also on the major radio stations we send the media release to them and also in the Republic it'll be posted soon Grimes I've got an absolutely goofy question so um you know I saw a notice the the new entrees and I think I remember last year uh pot stickers being introduced I have those hung on yes those are still those are still on um we we've had some some issues with supply chain it doesn't end for us because there's only so many schools and only certainly foods that qualify for the schools and so you know it's kind of a first come first serve but yeah those go over very well and I we like those because you can serve different sauces with them so you might go hot with General so or you might go sweet and sour those type of things then kids tend to like it I like it so I'd encourage you come try them when we have them thank you other other questions I I did have one more about the the 10 cent a year raise that we got so used to over the last few years and I think you said it was a balance as of the end of June 30 last year that allowed us to not increase prices this time with with this new appropriation act that went through I don't know if that'll always be but okay with the new act yeah where will our balance be on June 30 of this year 2023 that's yet to be determined I will know on June 30th okay but we're we're all right yeah good yeah thank you for your management yeah uh any other questions thank you for that thank you Mr Phillips I think you're next with metrics tracking our spending of the 2020 referendum funding is that correct yes thank you Mr Stenner we like to bring this in front of you once per year and and the public as well give you a brief history lesson if you haven't been around for a long time or you've forgotten in 2019 in Fall of 2019 the board voted to put forth a property tax operating referendum for approval for the public that finally then of course in the in the winter of 2020 2019-20 there was an interruption to that so the election actually got moved back to June of 2020 and 61.2 I believe percent of Voters approved a 15.6 increase on the property tax rate for a very specific purposes we don't want to go by law and that referendum voters approved an eight-year referendum so we can collect those for from started collecting those in 2021 and we'll collect them through 2028 those are the eight years of the operating referendum we want to bring that in front of the board every year remind them what we're spending the money on and what it's what it's producing in results so the first two slides here just show you you've already actually seen these slides in um you need me to go up there no I can just tell me when thanks the first two slides you've seen actually this is part of the 2022 quarter Four Financial results just showing you that first slide shows you that basically we increased salaries for employees approximately 10 point 10.4 percent over what they would have been without the referendum money the next slide shows the the other the remainder in some of the details and so 522 teachers receive salary increases of more than ten thousand eight hundred dollars about Eleven Hundred support staff classified staff members averaged more than eleven hundred dollars in additional pay over the course of 2022.

if we are only increasing five percent next year that seems like a very unrealistic goal so um I'm just wondering if if anyone can speak to that yeah I'd be happy to speak to that so for next year five percent is reasonable given what our pattern has been up to this point then that will have to accelerate for years 24 25 and 26. so I noticed in this where I guess I see some discrepancies on the document because on that one it says by 2026 by 2026 20 of that on the when we talk about sorry on the initiative academic achievement for we have very specific goals by June 24 by June 25 by June 25 so it seems like there's some missing gaps within the within the plan that we're missing what is happening in years basically in 25.

that might be an antique okay any other questions about them very good next item is the discussion of the third board goal Mr President members of the board um first and foremost I you know what I'm looking here we didn't put the attachment what I'm going to do is I'll read to you what I put together based on your comments the last meeting and I'll follow up with uh sending this to you so you guys I'll have this as a draft please look it over give me feedback um this is a governing board goal three Ajo Unified School District will continue with the Strategic Direction focused on the critical academic areas of opportunity for our students um Administration and the leadership team will make sure that curriculum and instruction resources Beyond textbooks and class reading intervention Math and Science curriculum are aligned with State and District standards the leadership team did share with me some additional resources just to share with all of you Newsela is an online platform for our Ela English language arts Envision map for k-6 m-class Dibbles is very critical 8th Edition screener for foundational literacy a move on when reading requirement for students that are having need some extra help with reading trophy support for ask for student at risk students amplify reading Raz plus and luzella also science and social studies online platform but also uh the leadership team is working on a potentially new science adoption is that right so trying to see what we what we can do to sign for a science adoption it also addresses the standards I know Miss Rodriguez mentioned that last time to be in line with the National Science standard so this is a good goal it's our third goal your third goal and so we have a this is a good step in the right direction going more towards on our strategic plan and things like that any discussion okay next item on the agenda is to call for future agenda items does anybody have one knowledgeable um I'm hoping maybe because we're well I guess we're at a point now where we're renewing contracts and we are seeing that some of our staff members are opting not to renew I'm hoping maybe we can somehow put together an exit interview of some sort so that way we can get some feedback as to why um staff members are opting out of their contract um kind of just kind of checking in okay what can we do better I know we've we did budget are we doing a budget now uh being able to provide more um resources and benefits for our staff members but I just kind of want to get um I guess their input as to what other areas can we improve on improve on so okay and then one uh item I'd like to add to a future agenda um like we changed the Dr saltero and I talked about it and we changed Wednesday's board meeting the Tuesday technically by how our policy State said it's only in an emergency that you and I are supposed to be able to do that or it could be changed by a vote of the board I didn't want to call a special session of the board just to vote on changing the date um and I talked I consulted with the district's lawyer and he said we're fine this had come up last year at one point and the suggestion was made that well we should really look at that policy and maybe see if we can change it a little bit to give us a little bit more freedom we hadn't done that yet so I'd like to put on agenda maybe for not for tomorrow night of course because it would be too late but maybe for the next special session that we we look at that policy and if there's a way that we can adjust it that gives us that flexibility it doesn't happen often um and like I said I'm allowed to we're allowed to in the state of if there's an emergency or something's going on it makes it dangerous for people to come if there's you know massive storm going on or if I know for a fact beforehand that we won't have a quorum I can move it um like I said I did consult with the district's lawyer and he said we're completely fine with changing at this time but ideally it would be best to do it with a board vote So speaking of looking back and looking at that policy I think it's policy be that states when we can change when we can adjust a meeting um I just wanted to put that out there for a special session to discuss that and maybe consider changes okay are there any other future agenda items if not will ask for a motion to adjourn I'll second all right Mr Hopkins aye the immediate insurance at 619. you take my notes [Applause]
