yeah same sign motion we're back in Open Session Mr President I moved to do the same executive session motion as presented [Music] 15. 15 minutes which will be Saturday okay there's a motion on the table second second by Allison all those in favor say aye aye any opposed same sign motion passes we are back in Open Session foreign cash balances match our Reconciliation Report and we completed our state assessments there's the end of April 3rd through 6th and should get results here in the next week or so our second graders do take an optional reading assessment this year that the state put out so we went ahead and took it we won't give the results to August um if this really will look at it and decide how we might need to change up you know any instruction that's the whole purpose of it to see if we're missing something in there and uh plus it's the first year they're giving it so I'm sure they're going to be revamping access to you it will always remain at least optional next year as well our pre-k through sixth grade teachers are just finishing up the end of the year testing get ready for the final report cards um our fifth and sixth graders went to the Hollywood Depot Vern Chapman gave me a call and asked if we bring some kids down there and they do a nice job of getting that all set up and giving a history of the train and then everything and the depot down there and we hope next year he asks if our staff would want to come down I said most definitely and we'll send more groups down there next year too so I'm very thankful that they um asked us to come down our art show and music program were very well attended and the gymnasium was pretty much full for both programs we had some field trips coming up this week with fourth fifth and second next Monday we'll have our Palladium cookout I want to take H and B for the use of their Grill and I guess they're going to give us a griller as well to help us on that day so we want to thank you for that May 16th uh Mrs Robinson has been planning a career day so we'll have a career day in the morning hoping the weather is nice because it'll be in the parking lot and stuff so we'll have two rotations or I think our Pre-K I don't know Pre-K might be just kindergarten second we'll go through and then after that then our third through sixth grade and they'll have more people out there that have volunteered to come and spend some time visiting with our kids about various careers and then I will take any of the 100 Point kids out to eat in our reading program on the 17th uh second through sixth graders have earned their goal for the nine weeks so we will go down to the city park for an hour on the 18th kindergarten go back to the platform Community Center and do a presentation of some sort there the legion we had to cancel that because they had something else going on that day but we hope to get this started back again next year and keep that going on 19th of course last day of school went to Smith's about 12 30.

not in high school Jason oh I don't I don't know what page that's on I can't find it now but I looked that one up too and I believe it says that high school girls will be instructed about the importance of mammograms not that we're going to give mammograms to high school students but I don't know what page it is so I can't find it right now Rick section J the way it's termed instruction regarding breast and testicular cancer including the significance of early detection through self-examination and in the case of breast cancer regularly scheduled mammograms so it's it's High School regularly scheduled mammograms in high school instructions converting the way the wording is is confusing okay well it's it's specifically says instruction about regularly scheduled mammograms not that we're giving mammograms to high school kids it's part of the health curriculum it's very you don't need in high school or put in high school first in high school we shall have instruction the way it's worded is confusing okay well not to me but possibly thank you other questions or discussion about the policies School accountability so this one talks about I think this is just a simple update but it talks about the principle must coordinate the development of initial three-year strategic continuous Improvement and achievement plan this policy was adopted originally in 2004 so I don't think we need the initial three-year plan but um I think that uh there's some things here that concern me a little bit about members of the committee shall be appointed by the principal but we can have the committee be of people interested in the school including administrators teachers parents and community and Business Leaders um I supported a cic at the Central Middle School and I was the only parent out of eight to nine hundred students that did that there was no one else from the community so I didn't get kicked out of the group but I think we need to ensure that we're allowing those that want to participate to be able to participate assuming they're legally allowed to be in a school um let's see there are some things here about um what the the committee shall and then there's a whole lot of stuff that I think is probably outside of what the committee shall so the committee shall identify racial ethnic language minority cultural exceptional learning and socioeconomic groups that are included in the school's population I think that's something that the school administration for the school can do I don't think the committee should do that I think the committee should be focused on continuous Improvement strategies to help make the school better uh incorporate culturally appropriate strategies for increasing educational opportunities and educational performance for each group in the school's plan recommend areas for additional professional development as necessary to increase cultural competency in the school's education environment my question is around cultural competency what does that mean and having been to several schools Logan I can't remember how many different nationalities were represented at just at Northside was it 13 or 14.

so how many cultures do we have to be prepared to teach how many cultural appropriate strategies need to be evaluated and developed how much training is this for teachers how many new lesson plans is this for teachers how many new teacher teaching approaching approaches is this for teachers how much more of a burden is this on teachers to have to be prepared for all of that so I think we need to understand what culturally appropriate strategies means and what the impact is on the workload for teachers I also read that there's a statement of if a school has developed materials that are substantially similar to a component of the state mandated plan the school may substitute those materials for the component of the mandated plan I know somebody had referenced several people reference law does this mean that we can be similar but not as much as law so this statement I think needs more discussion around it as well better and was that a change or was that part of our existing policy well I didn't I didn't read just the changes since I was new I tried to read the whole policy and sometimes the changes need to be taken into context by reading the whole policy sure that's why it's taken me so long to do this trying to read what it was to what it is because not all the highlighted sections not all the changes were highlighted so the very next last sentence says if the school has developed materials that are substantially similar to a component of the state mandated plan the school may substitute those materials for the component of the mandated plan so are we if we're doing more than the state mandated plan I think that's fine but this almost makes it sound like it can be substantially similar so it could be less than I just want Clarity on that being just as good if not better see 55 11.

dress and grooming this I think is for students um I think that uh there there was a significant amount of information in the uh administrative guideline that we all need to review as well if you have not looked at it just to make sure we understand it to me one of the things that I struggled with was it stated that each principle can create their own dress code why do we not have one dress code for all the students that way it's common and simple and easy to understand one of the things that was changed without highlighted was there's a statement of students who violate the foregoing rules may be suspended from schools now it's the students who violate the foregoing rules will not be admitted to class and may be suspended from school if they're not admitted to class where do they go what do they do and how do they get back in line with what the expectations are foreign twenty two so the first sentence I gotta I'm trying to find it real quick but the first sentence made a statement of how um for school-sponsored publication and Productions that uh it changed from May sponsor to board sponsors and that was not highlighted I think there's some things here that obviously need to have some conversation because when we start talking about uh School sponsored Publications especially with respect to some of them being able to be published outside of the schools one of the things that stood out to me was there was no notice of an editorial board that would be created to ensure that the information was being published without violation of potential copyright issues so the first this says the school board sponsors student Publications and I I suggested that we change it back to May sponsor student Publications and Productions um I think that uh as we look through some of this there was a whole lot of things here that stood out to me that um again see which one I want to talk about so a teacher student or group of students who wish to have non-public Forum student expression published performed outside the school Community must submit to the superintendent a request for prior written approval for such publication and performance so what is the when they say submit um what it just says submit it doesn't say that um they must receive approval as well it just says for prior written approval but they must get approval before publication but at the same time who reviews this material do we have a group of people that review what is being submitted for a non-public Forum student expression says here option a select if the board intends to designate all School sponsors student media to be limited purpose public forums I.E not subject to Prior review and restraint and generally allows them to be published performed outside the school Community this is the most permissive of the options again no notification here of appropriate editorial board school officials will not review or restrict the content of school-sponsored student media prior to publication or performance expect with accept with respect to unprotected speech how do they know it's unprotected speech if it's not been reviewed Google sponsors student media shall contain a notice to the reader viewer that the material while School sponsored is student directed and not subject to Prior review even a newspaper has an editorial board what are we going to do to ensure that we're protecting our students our teachers and ourselves with the material that's being produced the school officials uh advertisements shall be publication or advertisements submitted for publication or inclusion in a production shall be reviewed by school officials for determination that they are appropriate by juveniles so now we're saying we're gonna have a review there's some confusion here are we reviewing or not reviewing Mr major if I might interrupt I I believe the motion on the table is for the approval of the policies with the amendment that's been approved I think at this point for the board it would be appropriate either to have further amendments to that motion or to vote on the motion that's on the table I guess the one thing I will state the last thing I'll say is uh two weeks ago we came in here and we voted to push everything out there were four of us that agreed that we should do that I hope that you look at um what I had sent plus the questions that you have and that you have gotten all your answers in the last two weeks I don't think I have and I just hope that you have thank you any other questions or comments if there are none we'll go ahead with the vote the vote is to approve item 3G the neoli Neola policy recommendations with the change that the board has already approved tonight Mr Nolan's motion regarding number 9150 all those in favor of approving the policy recommendations as amended please say aye hi hi any opposed please say nay nay nay I believe the motion carries three two and the policies are approved we appreciate everyone's attention to these policies and we will continue to try to make them better next item on the agenda is human resource recommendations Dr pleek I request approval of the human resource recommendations as presented this evening thank you you've heard the recommendation from Miss Pleak is there a motion I move that we approve the HR recommendations as presented by Dr pleake and number four second it's been moved and seconded to approve the recommendations all those in favor please say aye aye aye any opposed say nay that motion carries thank you Dr pleek we have an opportunity for board input and review I'll start with Mr major I got enough speaking tonight thank you thank you Mr major Mr Grimes uh yeah thanks to all the community members that were here this evening community members stakeholders that came here to speak this evening in regards to policy thanks to Mr Burton Mrs note Stein at Northside for their presentation and especially a big congratulations to the South Side Smith Central students for all their accomplished accomplishments and congratulations and a big thank you to all of the bcsc retirees this year thank you Mr Grimes Mr Schulz uh yes I mean following Mr Graham saying thank you to all the reckonies but I messed up I should have gone first um I did have one thing I wanted to bring up and I recognize that it's frustrating to go through this and we owe you better and we will do better um as a board um board there's some some review and input that I want to give because I wasn't here during the last meeting due to business travel I was unable to attend however I want to discuss concerns with the approval that I receive significant negative feedback from constituents on that was removing the parents ability to join their children for lunch at elementary schools throughout the district now I must say this is not an activity that even registered in my head and I recognize that as a parent however as a board member I'm asked to look through multiple lens and there was a lot of parents that reached out to me and said this is really damaging to my life situations I had two parents that stand out that our second shift parents one's a single mother that was the only time during the week that she was able to spend awake with her child and I don't think we took the gravitas that that brought to the equation and I recognized Dr hack mentioned safety space I I agree with that I recognize I think there's mitigation factors there however CSA Lincoln is the smallest School in the district they've got a gym Materia which for those that don't know what it is it's a gym and a cafeteria put in one and they make room um and my God children are there and I'm hoping they're very safe and so I think we need to look through the lens of all these parents and say what is that one touch point because at the end of the day it goes back to those prisms that we're looking through on these policies do we want to collaborate or do we want to build that Fortress and I feel like this is just one more layer of bricks that we put on top and so I asked the board in a future state I'm not going to call for a motion because we're all tired but at the same time as we need to revisit that I hope that that comes into the public engagement I know I received a lot of negative feedback at least two dozen to date of parents that now without their knowing outside of I believe Mr major shared it ahead of the vote lost that right and that that's just something that I think we should all understand the gravitas that there's a single mother out there that now won't see their child awake during the week and there's probably for every one of those there's dozens of other examples that I could share but those were the ones that were brought forth to me following that vote for now on um so I guess it was in January when we first got this 62 pages of of policy and I read it and I thought this is pretty boring and I had no idea how much excitement 62 pages of policy could stir up but um I really really do appreciate the the emails and the comments and um people that came and spoke and I feedback from people who thought all over the map on those but but it's good to see them engaged and um and I I guess to go along with what Logan says I I hope in the future we have a smoother way for people to view the policy and policy changes and to to give feedback on those so give us time to work that out but but continue to be engaged for those people that are engaged thank you Mr Nell and Dr Roberts nothing at this time at the coming meeting dates listed on the uh display board there we have public engagement subcommittee will meet next Monday night May 15th at the admin building starting at six the board will be in executive session May 16th starting at 5 30.

Okay so yeah okay just a short review of Senate bill 113. just a couple of things about Senate bill 113. it has been passed by both houses not signed by the governor has not been written yet it's not been completely dropped at this time people who review it haven't had a chance to review it because it's not told me about it that's considerable one which is a lot of our finance bill it does increase the base of the three-year CPI average to 5088 48 46 this year on base day eight uh general fund will be used the higher your current year enrollment or prior year enrollment except if you close the building and you will use only current year enrollment on September 20th has not been signed by the government of the people because I don't know so that's the way it stands at this point oh also they're going to increase the cost of living allowance for that they're also going to pay our state Aids on time this year normally they don't pay us in July or June they wait till July if the new fiscal year and pay us but this year they're going to pay us in June because the cash balance of the states are very high maybe it had 7.5 million to special ed state aid they're going to create a special education task force they extended the high density at risk funding to sunset July 2027.

which also matches the date for the expiration of our current funding formula as it stands today 2027. that formula I don't know how long an appointment has been it's been adjusted but the formula itself has been in place for a long time schools who accept students from a closed School we'll be able to use their low enrollment waiting Factor the higher the prior year Factor or current year factor and it will freeze it for three years so if you get more students you're low enrollment waiting normally goes down it's a lighter it's not as heavy weighty because you got more students but you take students from a closed building they will be able to keep their low enrollment waiting for three years without it going down so increases the amount of state aid for students significantly they added a million dollars of school safety grants which shows applications are not out yet I am prepared to apply for it as soon as it is available it will be a matching Grant based on your enrollment traditionally we get eight or nine thousand dollars for that Grant traditionally and then you got to match it I have a project already quoted for that to apply for that Grant when it comes out I'll repeat that school safety Grant well I'm going to get eight or nine thousand dollars about Millions they also added I had added a million I needed there's an acronym myself and what that stands for I should have looked like this yeah to look it up they have all these acronyms in here I know most of them and then you're just looking over my shoulders I read and she's it's just letters it's not really words the ominous spill budget Bill the city Bill 25 event passes they'll have three billion for mental health intervention teams on that Grant this district has never applied before a review to see if we want to apply for mental health intervention team Grant in the state they expanded the TL tclissp eligibility which is tax credit if it comes down to get a tax credit for private schools is what that stands for I abbreviated a little bit but they increase the eligibility the people are eligible for that uh non-public students May participate in public Asia activities this one you like local school board members can be compensated now for this bill for this bill it's up to the board by the district uh yeah besides the legislature has the first right of refusal of cell of District buildings and they have 45 days to decide if you had a district building to sell the state would have first right of refusal just so you know that the state can refuse the sale of any building in this bill and they have 45 days to decide example would be for last building is sold that that would have had their approved by the state before it could happen nope in the past it's been passed by both outside but not signed and it hasn't been written in a draft so somebody can look at it yet so these are just high points that they're getting out of conference committee events and we hope to have it written so that people can read it and tell us interpret it because I will tell you it's going to be very lengthy and hard to interpret when it comes out uh also just a reminder in this uh some policies they have open enrollment the 24-25 year which means non-resident children or staff may enroll as residents all the students may be considered residents uh military children have priority for the lottery so at 24 25 students can go wherever they want without being approved but I will tell you that before then that will be looking at policies to set how many total kids we can have in the class and that's been an effective thing outside District you could put it back so and that's what eligible has adopted those okay the last thing I need to ask is also is for Wilson graduation I need you to get a number also for that so anybody got a 10 the most of graduation okay I'll try to be there okay 10 o'clock on Saturday 10 o'clock outside 10 o'clock on Saturday also I approved Don cars today had two benches on for Memorial money at the football field at Wilson when I approved for him to take him and relocate him of his choice I thought that was okay uh it's been interested to do it was sitting there sitting out there in a memory of I'm not sure the cars and Memorial money pay for suspensions in memory of and they're going to relocate those to a different area that's all that was fun also Vietnam traveling world will be getting started right on that corner tomorrow I believe they're here around I don't know what round one 1 40 they're going to leave and go down Main Street down highway four tournament Hoisington and they'll be located in Great Bend for a while that traveling for the Vietnam travel students our students will be out here tomorrow okay any questions on that for me that's all I have oh I forgot the bad I didn't want to talk about that much our health insurance is going out seven eight point seven seven percent this year which no increase is the last two so the average is good but it's never good when you jump 8.7 so uh that option D is going from 507 to 535 that's a single high deductible plan see the dollars is included there I'll skip that one too okay that made it now that may come up anyway I put down to discuss the petition to disorganize uh been in contact with County Clerk if that's filed tomorrow then we'll set a an election cannot be before July 1st per stage statute there's already going to be a let's in August one I don't know if that'll be it or not determined at a later date of the contact state board and so forth I just think it's important if we get to that point to try to educate all patrons like what yes or no means district has to pay for a special election only uh yes so and to my knowledge right now I tell you A lot of people are trying to figure this out right now it's hard to get answers but yes I anticipate that if it's a special it may even be a cost even on a Franklin because there is a chance a primary would not be necessary because you have to have so many people file in a city or school lexic to have a private okay I don't know if that's going to happen so that's all I have there any board member reports um there has been a lot of talk recently about developing uh kind of information developing a booster club I know it's been talked about in class I think for activity Maybe going to get moving on it and stuff so pretty excited about that I've heard of I've also heard of possibly an endowment or something I know some of the top things people have talked about is the track and uh possible clothes for expansion and then also just being able to provide support for all of our partners like the art but I'm using the FFA whether it be helping pay for transportation or meals but that was some stuff that I had occurred and I was pretty excited and happy to hear about good thing I would encourage that I don't know we've talked about having Community meetings or something that to really get the ball along with all that so one of the things that as I was a good thing is just to have open communication and liaison between entities anything else okay in any openages items I wanted to throw out an idea I don't know about hunter's education in school in high school trapped a few people ask me I don't know I know my son has talked about the truth there was one thing that was vetoed and not overridden was kind of safety in school so we can't do that I don't know if you can't do it I would just saying this it's not mandatory on that statute sub schools I know have trap and I know 4-H is kind of trap shoots also I don't know about gun safety it's real time for crypto they can be I know there are some districts but what I believe that bill was about was using that particular yeah you required to use that curriculum yeah I think some have hundreds safety but I really love that but I know the Trap Teams man they're getting more and more popular my nephew is on one at Council Grove oh yeah are they saying she's out of school though or are they uh private I know there I know a lot of schools that have it but they are not School sponsored you know what I mean because of you're not supposed to have Firearms property I can't have it on school property right but I mean I don't even know if a lot of our school sponsored but here's an email I got like 15 teams in the league or approved to use the school's name the entry or the club activity through the school that means periods 6 or 12 are eligible must have knee issue safety certificate or Runners so sent to me yeah I I hear you I don't at least the ones that I know of are not sponsored by the school like these two schools yeah this school doesn't pay for they get out private owners it could be Club that's what I heard him say I heard him say Club in that statement Rush county is the 4-H County 4-H sponsors the team collect some information to get that out anything else yeah items for next month's agenda Professor three personnel handbooks student fees District property against the insurance along with purpose comp insurance renewals okay but 25th for sure 20 seconds sorry I have 20 seconds okay you the meaning if there's nothing else I would entertain a motion to occur so let's see okay Emotion by Allison second by Josh of all those in favor say aye aye no same sign thank you everybody

foreign [Music] we have item that will be tabled or removed Mr sabala action item F number four right yes we'll go ahead and table that until it's further updated and then an amendment or at least a recommendation for a change in the actions there is no job description team for number seven it's just extra Beauty yes that is correct support um [Music] and leave extra Duty is there anything else is there any other Mentor other board members want something no I just wanted to be clear um any other questions events all those in favor of the motion Sylvia Hendricks Ella May Greasewood aye Kathleen Vance number two this unit's approval of the April 11 2023 board regular board meeting minutes number three this evening is our call to the audience we have a handful to call the audience sir oh you wouldn't mind um person attending meetings at the governing board are addressing the board she'll observe rules of propriety decorum and good combat conduct personal attacks upon board members District staff or students are not permitted discussion of confidential student matters is also prohibited the president May terminated speaker's privileges to address the governing board if after being called to order the speaker persists in improper conduct or remarks each speaker should be allowed three minutes each the first Speaker tonight is Miss Brenda Pablo and the discussion is a senior trip right here Miss Pablo whenever you start I'll start your timing and um we're only allowing A and B for the signature for 2024 and I think that's unfair um I think I think all of us need to take into account that the kids were out of school instead of co-med and a lot of them have working parents didn't have just one of the parts there but I'm sure they need to help and I know I'm one of them um my daughter graduated I mean did all her classes on her own so I think that we got to get the working parents and the students of those working parents credit for that but and also the ones that are there that you know have the elderly bear the husband and other circumstances within the family but I think you know we need to keep in mind that the kids are out of school for since colbit and and not any movie is good but that's also telling and showing the students that see it's not good but in my book as a parent assistant because as long as my shouts trying and doing everything she can to make those grades um with limited supervision by you as a working parent I think that she um shouldn't be punished for that it's just being independent doing the best she can while I'm also trying to support her and do my job at work and where you unlock a lot and so I just wanted to for the teachers and the the school Works understand that a c is acceptable it's it shouldn't make a child feel like they're not doing their best and in my book let's see it's good and it's efforts made and they're doing the work then they shouldn't be punished if they're a 10 and are a good student and our good role model to their fellow students and our averaging you know AIDS BCS then that should be okay we should accept that and allow them to go on this trip especially if they're um participating in donations and meeting in the class sales and as you know back to um working there and you know where I'm actually trying to try to do this on her own so that when she goes to college she's prepared she's not going to have me there and so right now she's doing good but I mean if she gets to see in a class then she should be back chat and so my recommendation is to allowancy and you know if the college just allow it for graduation then why can't we allow it for a decision I promise everybody thank you [Music] [Applause] have three minutes to address the board he is calling in or call the audience to request her letter to AZ State Board of Education so whenever you search here I'll go ahead and start your timing of a board members play tomorrow education [Music] finally allocation where included May 1st 2014 consideration practices and recommended that my senior life is here I request for a personal life insurance [Music] I am seeking from the free grant people at 11.

we'll call this meeting in order and we're going to begin with the Pledge of Allegiance and I've asked Jennifer Brimhall to lead us in that I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all this afternoon I'd like to excuse Margaret Gabby and uh Diana Butler because I'm buying us under the weather a little bit Margaret's traveling didn't get her on time she won't be able to make it to the meeting tonight we had a sad thing happen to us this um this past week and Dr right on turn on time to you so you can say something a little more personal to me yes sir so we wanted to have if we could we lost one of our students a high school student Michael Smith and we wanted to have a a moment of silence thank you and so uh this like every every time we lose a student it's it's uh it's painful Michael was an exceptional kid extremely bright uh beloved by Allen had a really sweet Spirit about himself we will share when the details are made available about his uh celebration life of Celebration memorial service thank you thank you Dr Ray I appreciate that you knew him more than me so I appreciate your willingness to speak something personal next item on the agenda is a recognition of our may be our students of the month Dr Ryan I'm again turn it over to you absolutely this is a lot more fun we have some a great kids every month we say the same thing and it's true we have some exceptional kids let's start with Elementary Mr Grace will you please introduce your student of the month the month for the for the month May is going to be Jackson Houston objects and then his teacher Mrs Grace's former teacher is here to thank you [Applause] so I have Jackson in sixth grade I'm his homeroom teacher I have for Math and for social studies he is an awesome kid he is always there always happy he does all of his work and he gets excellent results so he's one of those kids that you love having in your class and you wish you had 24 more of them okay happiness [Applause] congratulations Jackson Let's uh go to the junior high Courtney is hofmeyer please thank you our Junior High student of the month is Brenna Blake if I could have her come up please laughs [Music] [Applause] I have a few words from a couple of her teachers and then I've got a few words of course that I'll add in as well um about Brenda but um from her English teacher Brenna is an exceptional student she takes schoolwork seriously and is diligent she responds positively to whatever task or assignment given is given to her and maintains a happy disposition and her science teacher says um oops forgot page two also wonderful things uh what are the things that we most appreciate about Brenna is her positive attitude she is one of the happiest people we see on our campus I think I saw her once sad for about 30 seconds and it broke my heart and I just we do whatever we can she is just the happiest person and she makes everybody around her smile so we're so grateful to have fun on our campus [Applause] thank you congratulations Brianna for the high school I don't want to steal any of Mr Webb's thunder so I'm not but after he's done I'm going to say a few words about this exceptional young man Mr Webb I'll turn it over to you all right the high school would like to recognize Cyrus Baca Cyrus if you come forward please foreign [Applause] is a local celebrity name pops up in the independent over time and recently he had a very nice article written about him and also in in connection with the Blue Ridge NASA rover team so Cyrus is able to help that team and he's actually been a big part of the team all four years here at Blue Ridge so each year they were able to participate it and came away with great recognition this year they were actually fifth plays among all of the high schools throughout the country and throughout the the world that actually applied to be included in this competition so to be recognized for fifth place is a great achievement for Little Blue Ridge and a lot of it goes back to Cyrus and his participation involvement within that group it extends beyond that he is one of our students that has many offers to very high prestigious colleges universities um have you made a decision yet where are you going Colombia all right he's going to be going to Colombia a huge accomplishment there and he had at least eight other prestigious universities that were that he was accepted to as well so he had to make a decision where he was going to go and what would best suit his needs and his future plans and I know he's going to do a great job um on a side note he's he's been he helped out with the tech department over the last couple years and anytime I needed some tech work done I would call on Cyrus he'd come up and make me some network cables and try and get some stuff done so he did a great job in addition to the classwork everything else that he does uh he's he's just a great student and all-around young man that we're proud to have here at the high school so we're going to recognize him and then Mr Dr Wright's going to say a few more words too yeah I also want to add he's passed up University of California Berkeley and Cornell to go to Columbia to join his brother so the white singer Baca family has produced two amazing young men and more than just being intelligent and great kids and great citizens they're wonderful human beings and and we love you all we're proud of you good job Cyrus congratulations [Applause] and so Dad can get a picture he deserves a pitcher nice work okay now we're gonna we're gonna recognize the the Blue Ridge teacher of the month uh just as a side note we'll announce the Blue Ridge teacher of the year at our kickoff in 2023 another carried to get teachers to come back so for this month's uh we would like to recognize Tyler wagenfer from the elementary school Ty come on up please [Applause] so Mr wagon fear came to me last year he's he was an exceptional fourth grade teacher he came to me last year and he said there's a hole in our special education program and I'm willing to do what I need to do to teach special education and jumped in there because he knew we needed it and our students needed it and it has been a integral part to getting our students ready to move on to the junior high as far as our special needs students go so earlier this year we had Miss wagenfir who has been teaching him everything she knows and Tyler has just done an outstanding job and we're lucky to have him um and then just real brief before we kind of move on I'd also like to call up Jonathan Rao so Jonathan is one of our employee star awards for this month Jonathan's a first year with us um and he has fit the team perfectly everything every day all day he's there whatever is needed but these two these two men here last week we had a suspicious person on campus that we we had to call law enforcement to come talk to there was no threat involved to the school or anything like that but at the time we didn't know that we just had not been able to make contact with this person and so that was what triggered that when that came over the radio these two men here came at a literal run down the hallway right out the front door to put themselves out there with Mr Robinson to do what needed to be done to make sure that our students were safe I couldn't be more proud to have these two working on our campus so give them a round of applause [Applause] thank you now we would like to recognize the VR stars of the month and after that we'll have the BR Superstar award we would like to first um it's kind of hard I'm trying to get you out Mrs Hoffmeyer I know you have a open house I'd like to do it if we could in order um Ryan would you please make your presentation it looks like you've already presented to Jonathan but for Daniel Robinson and Jonathan's would be our star of the month too correct yes sir so Mr Robinson and Miss Butler they were mad if I pulled them up one at a time so both of y'all come on out these two are probably on our campus to be the Be Our Stars they have picked up every bit of slack that I have dropped this year from from being out for my surgeries for whatever it was without them we wouldn't have functioned and there's there's no doubt in my mind that that's that's the case both of them every day do whatever it needs for our students they're there from I think Dan probably gets there about 5 30 in the morning kind of shortly after and they're both the last people to leave every day um but we couldn't ask for two more dedicated people working for Blue Ridge and and working for our students so um personal thank you as well as a professional thank you [Applause] make sure we get a picture Mr Robinson thank you congratulations from the high school I don't see Mr bloomstrand here Mr Webb will you please present though and talk a little bit about do you have for Brian can you present a little bit of Brian's not here but if you could speak to his contributions and then uh after that Rebecca woods from the high school Mr Webb so is choir teacher at the high school also helps with all the music programs the musical directs all the everything from up top and he is just incredible with our kids they the product that he can produce with with student voices is incredible when you hear how they're starting and how they're finishing their classes it's just amazing um he is very talented uh at what he does and then the calmness that he brings into all of his classrooms and how he talks to students and teachers and parents um with so much respect and he's just an incredible staff member to have it on our campus we're really lucky to have him thank you and congratulations [Applause] Mr Webb could you please introduce Rebecca Woods Ms Woods come on out [Applause] I don't know if you have room for this but she keeps being awesome and we just keep recognizing her because she does amazing things we are so very lucky to have her at the high school and not just that she do math but she does the hardest math the hardest levels that we have on campus and I think Cyrus you've had this ruins too right amazing teacher our kids that take this Woods classroom they some of them may just be in there because they have to take it but they love her class and they're engaged every time we go in we notice that the kids are engaged and and it's a it's hard math and they look like they're having a good time so whatever you're doing keep doing it because the kids they keep signing up for those hard classes and the kids do well when they do the AP exams in our classroom and so we're super proud of her and she not only does she do math but she also was willing to pick up a new class first this year she taught yoga and how many kids signed up for that one like 35 38 it was it was a full class in a small room and I think it turned into hot yoga because it was so warm in there but it just shows you what she's anything that we need or we ask of her she's willing to help out so congratulations for the BR month of BR start for the month of May congratulations Rebecca [Music] now we're to the uh we're to the the BR Superstars and what this is we take the folks that have been recognized all year and we choose normally one or two in this year we couldn't limited to two so we had three that we want to recognize that have earned this honor and they're all exceptional human beings let's start with uh Courtney Ms Hoffmeyer would you please start with Mr Butterfield it is my pleasure to recognize David Butterfield if Mr Butterfield could come on up [Applause] Mr Butterfield is a constant support to all of our students on campus and he's a constant support to us in the front office he is exceptional with students in helping them see their own potential in helping them rise to meet their potential and and also making them just love the game of chess because of Mr Butterfield's every 8th grader on our campus knows how to play chess and that's pretty incredible students will come in he offers up his classroom every day at lunch to have them come in either play chess come in for extra help with math or just to give them a safe space so we are we're very lucky to have Mr Butterfield on our campus he is he is critical at the junior high and we love having him I'm going to ask him to teach yoga next year he doesn't know it yet you know but also a great sense of humor and we appreciate that too he really does have a great way with students and lucky to have him thank you [Applause] I also would like to add that Mr Butterfield is one of the important teacher leaders of that campus he just brings calm um a high degree of intelligence and caring and compassion I've never been in his classroom that he wasn't offering direct instruction and having taught for seven years you could probably catch me doing a hundred times a day not doing that it's hard and he's he's always teaching and we sure love and appreciate you Ryan can you uh introduce another exceptional human being to meet a temper our BR Superstar for the 22-23 year is Miss Demeter temper [Applause] this temper runs a great shift when it comes to sixth grade she stays on top of everything everything that uh I need to stay on top of she stays on top of me to make sure that I stay on top of that too um it takes a special kind of person to really love teaching sixth graders um and Miss temper is one of those people she has super high expectations and she makes sure the kids have all the tools that they need to meet those expectations um we're lucky to have her leading our sixth grade team and I'm I'm lucky to have her on campus as having been a sixth grade teacher finding sixth grade teachers that are greater is hard and we have an exceptional one here congratulations [Applause] I'll also add that damita's test scores in her classes every year for eight years have exceeded men are exceeded every other classroom it doesn't matter what collection of kids she has her kids perform and so she's also one of those that are 100 engaged and does an exceptional job we love you before we start we have Rebecca Woods mama here stand up Mrs Woods look at it come on Rebecca have your mom stand there you go we wouldn't have herbs wouldn't for you thank you for making the trip Mr Webb would you like to present come on down again well as she's coming up I want to thank her mom for doing the amazing bulletin boards that she does in the hallway she has definitely brightened it up cleaned up some of our old trophy cases so thank you that it was greatly appreciated so with this she's a superstar for the year 22-23 Superstar should be a Saturday Night Live move or somewhere in there um all that that I said before and additionally a couple things that I left out so she's also one of our teacher technology trainers so if some of our teachers are having a problem with technology whether it's the um the installation of the new multi-factor authentication program or learning how to do the synergy synergy grades posting grades anything related to technology she's always willing to help out and does it in a way so that the new employees and sometimes the older employees understand it well so she does that she's also chaperones a great trip I think she's going to where you're going this Atlanta with Atlanta for FBLA trip with Jack so she's a great mother as well and we enjoy having her kids at school even the ones that are net school I love seeing them so she does amazing job all around that's why she's our Superstar for the high school thank you please hang around for just a second Miss what if you could I want to add if you could wait there Mr web as well I want to add in 2017 suddenly and expectedly we had a teacher pass away Thomas Keane the the auditorium is a it's named after this good man this this guy was a trained engineer he graduated from the Naval Academy he was amazing there was no way we were going to replace Thomas King I just knew it and then I had this uh file come across my desk of a young person named Rebecca Woods young lady that had graduated college and she had a 3.97 at a top university in math and I've never met anybody who had a 3.97 in math and so after we got to know her what I appreciate most about Rebecca is she can teach the entry-level pre-algebra or the calculus kid and she treat teaches treats and teaches them all the same and she has a way of reaching out we did find a way to replace Thomas King and never thought we could I'm just not sure we can have replaced Rebecca woods so don't go anywhere we appreciate you we love and admire you and are so thankful for your dedicated service thank you thank you you know Dr Wright gets a little emotional and I'm lucky I'm not talking because I get a little emotional just being of pure Pride from the people that we have in a school district and you know I think we I think we have the best of the best here and I I am so proud so proud Dr Wright you see when he gets a little emotional he gets his pin right here and he goes come on do it you can do this you can do this so he loves you and it's obvious he loves you typically and I'm going to make a little decision right here typically we would do call to the public at the end of this meeting we have a call to the public in the project and the uh the content of this uh call the public is a Rover project so I'd like to hear it right now and we if we were to ask Bill Gibson if you wouldn't mind coming up and making your address to the board at this time we'd like to have you limited to about three or four minutes and uh appreciate that um thank you I thought I had a little more time um it's it's nice to have Jack here Cyrus I got to spend some amazing time with these guys and with annalize my son Nolan I'm become a little emotional because I had I was I was so excited by this um and uh Cameron in Huntsville Alabama I want to thank um Kevin Woolridge for what he's done for this program and giving me the chance to be part of it uh Jennifer Brimhall she got to experience that with me to see our kids go out there and compete internationally there was eight different countries there there were high schools there were college students but I think what I was most impressed by our kids was not intimidated by a single one of them they went out there and competed on the highest level uh High School sports anything that you can compare that to I felt like I was watching our kids in the Little League World Series I was out there yelling at him I was rooting them on we were we were chasing them come on go go it was so much fun they were amazing um I think what I really want to get to you is one thank you for giving us uh instructors who are willing to put in that time after school on weekends uh our our kids were there with him but those five kids dedicated themselves to this I had no idea what I was walking into I didn't know it was hey they built a Rover they're gonna go driving around a parking lot harder I was I was just so impressed by them to have a top five finish out of all of those schools that were there and it wasn't just that they they finished they worked as a team to do it they had strategies they met they talked about what we're going to do they worked on that Rover in between their uh different trials to make sure that they were doing their best I want to thank you as a district and a board for supporting this program I am implore you to continue and these are the things we we hear all about the sports we do we love our Sports here but we need to hear about these things our our families here in Pinetop Lakeside need to to hear about the programs that are available to our chess team that finished second in the state I believe it was um we got some great articles in the newspaper recently but we all we we get a lot of text messages from the school district Dr Wright we always get to read the letter from Dr Wright to see maybe read the letter from Dr Wright and have it say congratulations to to these kids support them join these clubs the text messages that we get that say Hey soccer practice or soccer tryouts are coming how about hey have you thought about the physics Club some of these kind of things being communicated to our families just to remind them that we're not just great at Sports and all these other things I mean some amazing teachers here and we we just need to tell everybody that Blue Ridge Unified School District is as good as anybody else and I think we can do that we can encourage our kids and our community to to support these other programs and then last thing I just want to say is I am so excited about next year I only got to go for a couple of days I'm booking my entire week to be in Huntsville with those kids next year hopefully you get to go because we had we had we had a pretty good time and um and again just I want to say thank you and I apologize for being emotional but I I this was this was probably one of the greatest events I've I've got to do with some of the greatest kids and I hope that I hope you understand that so thank you you're welcome thank you Mr Gibson appreciate that chuck would like to address the board at this time or anything um I would like to take a moment and thank Bill may not be aware of it but this last Saturday uh White Mountain Country Club allowed us to have the Blue Ridge scholarship fund Golf Course golf tournament there last Saturday and bill and his staff put on a fantastic dinner for all the golfers after it was over and I had lunch for everybody and he they I can't say enough great things about White Mountain Country Club and especially bill so anyway thank you very much Bill we appreciate it you know we're really not supposed to respond but out of Pride I'm going to have to just say amen I and Dr Wright I'm gonna let you say something here because I know you're so involved in this communication aspect in the past we we are still learning how to communicate to a new generation and uh those phone calls we used to make those robocalls that doesn't work anymore and we're learning so I appreciate the input and I'll make sure that that gets put in there but Dr Ray you want to address anything that he said I would encourage you to get on Facebook Instagram and also Twitter because we've posted a lot about Fab Lab on it and the uh several competitions they've been involved in and so the newspaper will hit people that are my age and older but really social media is where we're getting a lot of it and so that's where we've been but like anything else we can always get better at what we're doing and so we appreciate the feedback thank you love it thank you very much okay next item on the agenda is Adam item number two board is there any item in the consent agenda that you would like to take out to vote on separately or should we just have a motion to accept the consent agenda as is written about motion to accept second from Jennifer all in favor that would be the Quorum saying yes okay item 3.1 recommendation to approve the second revision of the fiscal year budget for 2022.

where the money sits contingency funds so this is just more showings so it's just showing more of where we've taken our contingency funds and moved that within the budget budget um I would be more than happy if anybody has any questions to on anything specific or generic it looks like the difference was right at it decreased by one percent so we did have a the only decrease on there is in in capital um they didn't like the number that I put out there so they actually decreased our capital budget but we've been operating off of that assumption since November pretty pretty small I guess good motion I wanted to approve the budget revision number one a second any more comments Mrs lefeber yes Mrs Amadeus yes Mr mcgibbon so Mrs Ellen yes and the next item is just a discussion item on some upcoming vids so just we kind of wanted to give the board an update of what we're looking at as far as some of our Capital needs for the upcoming school year we are getting getting bids for coffee machines throughout the district we're going to re replace every single one that way everything has the same time frame on it it's all locked up the exact same length of time as far as service contracts go and it alleviates any confusion of us as well as this 100 service contract is is you know so it's just going to combine down our our not so much our cost but but just making it easier to understand where we're at in the lifespan of each one of these God admissions so we've got that coming up um also we are I'm in the process of putting together the RFP for um for audit services this last audit was the last of our five-year contract so we have to go out for that again and with this there is a specific RFP that has to go out as well as a specific contract that has to be given and that's all provided by the auditor General's office which I made a copy of in your packet there as well as well so we've got those two bids that are coming up um what's rft request for proposals okay on the copiers we buy those releases we will just be purchase of it [Music] thank you is that what we've done in the past we've always purchased them so some of the machines that we currently have released some were purchased again it goes back to that you know which one am I am I making at least payment on so it just makes it just clean and easy and simple you know yes the pros and cons of each cost I have actually we actually on Wednesday was it Wednesday because you were trying to get a color copy machine so we had three different vendors actually come out looked at every machine that we had and we were able to tell them that okay for this area here they need to be able to have this function this functionality this functionality so they're all in the process of putting together proposals and then we'll put together a bid committee and take a look at those and nice we'll make a decision based off of those bids contracts yes and I've even talked them into giving them trade and values from the current machines that way I don't have to take an option great good idea because you get pennies yes somebody's gonna pay 10 bucks for nine copy machines to take them to Mexico so far um we did uh Mr Ferguson and I um we were talking so one of the the bidders um Konica Minolta as a subsidiary um within Hanukkah that does security cameras so we are talking to them about upgrading and getting our cameras all under one umbrella versus having a couple of different systems so we are talking with them and they've got some pretty cool stuff that come with you cool stuff comes with cool prices too right yeah um one of the cameras that he was showing us it's a two thousand dollar security camera but it's got night vision on it so you can see when people are walking up to the buildings at night um there's attack you know add-ons that you can have face directed Mission facial recognition keep weapons versus yeah so of course there's a whole bunch of stuff that can be added on and integrating it with our door locks so that you know if a staff member were to walk up to the door it would see their face and we wouldn't have to buzz them in it would just automatically open or if it was somebody on a blacklist that we have you know a custodial issue or or somebody that's coming up on some sort of a list it wouldn't unlock the doors even if you try it of blood add-ons and when you say add-ons correct so that is something that we just started looking we actually had the video call today they're coming out sometime to actually take a look at the campus and who gives a better idea of what it is they can do for us and that is that will take us to unfinished business yes so as we mentioned at our last meeting in terms of having to make a few changes to the 311 plan activity more General induction specific in terms of naming actual community members because our goal is to put our plan on our website so we met with the committee again and made a few changes and I'm really happy with this plan because it really is going to help us work smarter not harder and be able to count some of the 301 meetings in terms of our Wednesdays trainings and collaborations and data days that teachers are doing throughout the year so you have a chance to review the Committees that will will still continue to operate because we do feel that these committees are important and things that we do in our school that we would like to continue foreign this says there's a 20 increase to face pain it's not highlighted so I'm assuming it's that's nice but that's a continuation of what's already on the plan I didn't remember that but let's see okay [Music] something so I do have a question are there any teachers that choose not to participate yes yes okay so do they not so the 20 is mandated by Statute so whatever each district chooses to attach to the face every teacher gets that it's it's whatever is left from that so if we were to do five percent to the base and 95 in um the performance but they would still be entitled to that five percent okay all right Mrs McIver yes you missed somebody yes yes Mr mciven Mrs Alan yes Mr ostrich yes and with that I don't know the uh [Music] the exciting first reading of asba policy 744-747 so there are this is a first read for you to review and we will present in June for approval but as I'm looking at them they are primarily discussing the fact that uh curriculum committees have to follow the same role as the open meeting law so apparently we make every time we have a committee a committee adoption curriculum adoption committee we will have to post those meetings and my guess is that they don't want people discussing curriculum and isolation that everybody in the community hears the same information at the same time in order to make a informed decision when we are discussing curriculum which a lot of times when we have that process we have our committee go back and report to the grade levels and so I will definitely have to be doing some homework in that area in terms of making sure that we're following with I said and the adoption of new curriculum didn't take long enough right we're looking at another Secrets yes so that's um from what I've read so far but like I mentioned I'll have to look into them a little bit further um the other ones the other policy 747 in terms of medication being administered they're changing the language from physician to healthcare practitioner because so many can titioners and they legally had not been allowed to provide the needed documentation to administer meds for School nurses and there's also a lot of language in here on allowing teachers to administer medications and inhalers as needed so please review them and then we'll discuss them further in June so since these are from the asba and they're not statute they're kind of suggestions yes that we adopt them then it becomes policy yes for the sake of argument let's just say that we don't agree with the curriculum I'm just saying it up we have the curriculum available to the public for like nine months I'm not speaking just to that one yeah just in general to any of these policies would put on the policy bridge that we did not approve it hence it does not become policy okay I'm all for transparency and our curriculum has always been available for as long as I can remember I just think the less red tape and more power we give to the teachers and the reality that when we post to the public we may have you know our parent advisory parents code review it because we've asked them to come in please look at it and we can agree with them but other than that you know in the past we may have one or two parents who come and I mean we're even trying to get our teachers who are not on the committee to come and look at the you you are very encouraging of the parents in public whenever we have to have a doubt I just wanted to throw this out there the whole reason why Davis it's because something happened in another District where they're going to lose a loss so I I just wanted to kind of like throw that out there's you know there's a reason why asba says you sell even though we look at it this is just redundant or you know we already do this you know there is a reason for having it okay so this is not an action item any other comments done well we um get a copy of this what was it that's why I was asking okay so they can go through as attachments it's under public content important 100 percent or probably have to log into the war dogs to see it because it's showing up here on the screen okay okay so we'll send it to you we'll email it to you okay Wharton School events for the rest of those calendar school year so I will have um calendar of Lights to the promotion okay perfect I'll be at the eighth grade one and they're posted here for possible quorums no just make sure when you are present that you let us know you're there so we can make sure to do the proper introductions we don't want you to get lost in the crowd and I forgot to put May 16 Stephen fosterone printing oh we have nayali and Mr Alston in their birthday twins um let's sing Happy Birthday ready one two three happy birthday to you happy birthday to you um all of our special moms in the audience appreciate you in that um the further discussion about anything you might like to see in the future uh gender or just general comments about Arizona yeah I just one teacher did come to me and ask me about um possibly getting a dance team starting here knowing that Olivia's in dance but other than that um on the trail has a dance team and they go do their showcases with all the other schools in town and we were asked why we didn't have a dance team so just throw that out there Memphis Justice uh sounds like you volunteering this is it never came came to to the daughter that would also be willing to help so so just throwing that out there uniform stays the girls said would be really easy black leggings and cult T-shirts because that's what I hit pop dance team would wear anyhow so that would be fun and the high school has a dance team so that would be good so that that was why some of the past cult students had come and said that when they wanted to be on the dance team at Walden Grove they had zero or no experience prior to getting there so yeah well it's not quite as competitive as it used to be but it was very difficult to get into so I don't think the Colts at a high acceptance rate so that I mean that was something in with Olivia's experience of dancing get this going Olivia teaches already so she's like I can do it awesome okay all right school year went by fast I'm glad still to be on the sport I'm looking forward to starting the new school year okay as we move forward to a couple months off the Hallmark every night oh yeah I can't wait in high school just so well you guys have all known Zoe she got accepted for Walden student council she's very excited about that for a nice recommendation for Mr Rico um but she's more thrilled than you can even imagine so but it's really exciting Mr mcgibbon any words of wisdom tonight all right okay thanks congratulations with Izzy's graduation yes [Laughter] just a little but you're good all right but that will take a break some papers again thanks Drew for calling him right everybody um [Music] here 99.

Full House I appreciate you coming after the Pledge of Allegiance we really will have a moment of prayer if you remain standing appreciated I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you Lord Jesus thank you thank you for our schools in Wabash County I just ask that we may open our eyes our eyes of our heart that we might see you to know you to be able to help us in all of this fill our schools with your love and compassion where no student not any student will be going alone rejected her loss they just ask that you might also make us your physical presence in the hallways to accomplish this so we'll be there in classroom in the offices on the ball fields in the gyms just to appreciate your ability to work through us and give you the praise give us wisdom in our decisions and all this I ask and wonder and the power of your precious name amen amen future future board meetings will be May the 23rd and then we move all the way to June the 13th and then all the way to July the 11th so we have some weeks in there that we miss because of the summer revisions on the agenda tonight are just small addition to an addition basically to the field trips and also to donations we'll move into donations right now we have a 500 donation from Aaron and just to ollie the Northfield junior high chair we also have a 150 donation from Oasis Baptist Church in Abdi for Northfield lunch account previously in the last board meeting I wanted to clarify a couple of things on donations we had a 500 donation from gimmon law office and that was for Southwood Elementary robotics we also had 224 dollar donation approved from Rich Valley tenderloin announced for Northfield baseball and the last one was a thousand dollar donation from renbarger farms and that went to Shark Creek robotics so I'll take a motion on the first two new ones that need approval so a second all in favor all right opposed really appreciate the donations Spotlight the theme all right we have a couple so I would like to have Mrs Campbell come forward and this is Augustine so this is always a fun time to do the spotlight and so today we're going to Spotlight um Melissa um look at this Michelle Campbell and also parent uh Miss Janet if you can go ahead and just share a little bit about uh I have it here just in case too okay all right well that's fine okay I've had the honor of being here today to start like Michelle Campbell I started working with Michelle a few years ago when I took over as kids hope director for the north schools I knew immediately that there was something special about Michelle when almost every time I was in the office a child would come in and they would go straight to her and give her a hug I have not been in a school where I've seen an administrative assistant that is so low when our daughter Indiana started kindergarten this year at Mentor North my appreciation for Michelle excuse me only group and he was very anxious to start school and those first few weeks it was difficult for her to even get in the doors that changed when Mrs Campbell started walking her down to class she let Andy know that she was not alone and she would be safe in school she made the world of difference for Andy and our family and I'm so thankful for her all right let's give her a round of applause and so oh we haven't finished up here and so again of course First Farmers Bank and Trust is the one that actually helps us with this and so we have a card for you it's forty dollars to redeem at our online store so you can buy any kind of prepare what you want and before we go on though Mrs Moore would you like to share anything else I will um um Mrs Campbell is exactly what you want greeting your parents each and every day from the moment she comes into the building so way after she leaves for the day she has the interests of our students and Seth at heart and everything she does um it's choosing an incredible Administrative Assistant um but she embodies the mission of our district and we are very fortunate to have you every day so thank you and I would I would agree to that you know sometimes when I walk in those same things happen all the time just appreciate you very much very much and Mr I appreciate you though too with doing the kids hope a very great program and um are you still doing is that something you're still doing right yeah and so that's kind of an added bonus here when we're talking about things uh having kids hope in our in our schools is excellent it's just been my right hand woman for that for sure so again congratulations thank you for coming thank you and I have one others and of course you are welcome to stay but um most of the time people have other things they want to get to so you're welcome to lead too so I'll give you I mean you're going to miss a lot of things I'll watch it online great come back that's good so the other one we have tonight they were unable to come but I want to uh just Spotlight in a Bobby shawl and I will read that to you here real quickly and then we'll go on if I can find wow okay Southwest Junior Senior High School Food Service staff Bobby Shaw was nominated by grandmother Linda Reynolds these words were shared she said from the students I'm here she is fun and a great salad bar lunch lady I hear how she decorates the salad bar and enjoys her job and most of the kids so we do want to congratulate Bobby and thanks again to the grandmother has learned about that because we do allow anyone in our community to go ahead and Spotlight one of our staff members so this is for Bobby Shaw I've already talked to her she was unable to come tonight and so I will give this to her later so I just wanted to stop by um foreign next we'll just continue on with our school recognitions if that's okay and we'll start with Mrs Moore perfect um so last night we had a ton of artists from MSC and neighboring districts honored at the Honeywell Center for our spring art show and banner contest and it's just always exciting for that recognition for our art teachers as well as kids and their artwork so from Metro North to me Arendale Laughlin Mass Abigail Molin Brantley bit sir Abby Grossman Garrett Lawrence Leah scheidler Holden stalker miloscope Braxton Bristol Allison lavellet Kinley Merrick Easton Olinger Skyler Sloan Meredith Williams Natalie black Colby Hopper Lily long Serenity McDermott and then Rowan Perez were all recognized for their artwork we also had three Banner winners just like they did in the winter with the banners around Honeywell Center they do this for spring and summer and our three Banner winners were I'm gonna make sure I get the right ones Leah scheidler and kindergarten Braxton Bristol and then Rowan Perez and then Garrett Lorenz was the elementary best of show winner so I'm just pretty exciting and it's wonderful to honor them as well as Mrs Gray for the work that they do um are a little more preschool and our little Knights preschool and the last month were recognized for achieving level three house quality which recognizes you know our commitment to ensuring high quality Early Education learning experiences and providing a safe loving caring environment um there's a lot of paperwork that goes with that level three and so I'm just very appreciative appreciative of our little nights and little more staff for making sure that we have everything we need for that site visit is a piece of cake where they come in and look at our classrooms and see the awesomeness that happens it's the bucket of paperwork um that is a little tedious but completely worth it because it allows our families to apply for on my way Pre-K tuition support as well as the ccdf vouchers so um also in the month of April and May our little nights had their um llep visit which is just our licensing site visit and they pass that with flying colors as we need that they could so I'm just super appreciative about just teachers and support staff members because it takes a lot of extra time on their hands um the last thing and it has really nothing to do about Metro North but just about MSD and it's our robotics team and you know we have five six six six okay wrong were there four in Shark Creek one in south or the one in Northville uh there were six I can be wrong um I probably miscounted on a Sharp Creek team and I apologize we had more than a handful of MSU robotics team traveled to Dallas for the Vex world and it's an exciting time for the kids and um exciting and exhausting time for the parents but the amount of time that those coaches put in to make sure that that experience it's phenomenal I can't even begin to imagine um and those coaches just do it and make it look so simple and easy you know from making sure parents know what time to be have their kids ready what shirt their kids need to be wearing um what time to be where when to queue when to be on this stage or that stage it they have it down and just do an amazing job of communicating that to students and to parents and I'm in all of that um because you know just with my little second graders getting them to a Saturday competition it's not an easy task and they're just making sure that it runs very smoothly so you know as a administrator and as a parent of one of the kids on those scenes just kudos to them because it's amazing in a great it's great in existence all right thank you and I have a few more so it has been our culture here to go ahead and share a lot of different things with recognitions and spotlights and things like that and so sometimes I have people come to me and say how can I recognize it I said well we can recognize by doing this during a school board meeting so I had a parent Kayla Paul who wanted to recognize bus driver Katie Arwood she's always noticing when her daughter um her daughter the little things that are noticed are important thank you she does a good job with the kids and so just want to recognize that and Melissa ball our transportation director will be coming up later but she knows all the great work that they do and all the things that she does to help lead that the transportation department also I'd like to go ahead and share with you some other things I've learned and actually Mrs Lawrence the one that actually shared this with me but I thought it'd be great for all of you to hear so we had a Northfield graduate uh not Norfolk I'm sorry south of graduate Logan Arnold who actually won the John R Emmons award for outstanding seniors at Ball State University and so if you remember the Evans name a past president this award or annual award name for former University President John R Emmons goes to the most outstanding senior most outstanding not outstanding but most outstanding senior for contributions to the university the recipient's names there's one of two so just one of two are engraved on a permanent plaque that is in the LA fittinger Student Center alumni Lounge so a great honor to for one of our graduates at Ball State University and there are also a lot of other students that do great jobs there too um and I would like to at this time quickly share with you a video and I'll talk about it first a little bit so our art Department Adams Weeble at Northfield um he'll share a little bit about in this video but the reason why we're doing this is we do have an internship Mrs Johnson who's been the internship teacher is now our assistant principal at Southwood but she also has connected a lot of people um into our community as far as having internships and one of them was with our own Laura Laney Bartles our director of communication Community engagement Lily Hobbs and so Lily Hobbs has been working on this video to learn a lot about the specifics of the video so I just want to just show this to you it's about 3 minutes and 42 seconds but I think it's very very worth the time you know I mean popcorn I apologize for that but I think you'll enjoy this if I can get everything at first watching that sorry it's okay so um it's eight years and Peru and myself Visual Arts here at Northfield Junior Senior High School um I thought I taught the last eight years at Peru and this is my third year here what made me fall over the park I always like being around people I was really good at math I was always really good at learning I used some sugar kids in high school with mathematics so I always know I wanted to be a teacher [Music] but when I had my high school art teacher Mr Lauer he told me I need to I ain't going to teach America it's like I'd be aware of if I didn't even what inspires me to take students is like the light bulb moment who get a lot of them here just like we might have kids in there taking art before take apart because they're required to to get into your account to get a nice little diploma they can come in here and then some of the kids it just clicks they get really really good at it I'm a junior this year doing collect at the end of this freshman year at least one national awards he just won a new Jordan out of Wayne University where they actually paid money and he was literally just taking part of it because it was required and now he actually just came back from college visit he was also the person where he wants to pursuer here we encourage free thinking creative thinking and problem solving and there are the way are employment opportunities are going in our culture nowadays as we like anything freely and creatively problem solved versus black and white a b c you're still more crazy than that we offer tons of opportunities supported visualized Department we offer 3D reducing sculpture we also offer a ton of two new classes withdrawing painting photography and Design next fall we will actually add AP 3D art design AP 2D art design and APK drawing so that's worth three credit hours for the college class so we're going back here I'm also a very very competitive person so we enter as many shows as possible we enter the Wabash County show and our Banner competition the inner Scholastics and most years we win something nationally or anything like recent uh we also enter several High School student-led art exhibitions at universities we just got done with one at Women's University we actually had best to show and tomorrow Legends next year we're going to throw another show again how you talk about just to get our students a little bit more experience get our hard work out there and make them out there and talk APR is not very commonly offered especially in a small community and I like the fact that I was going to put up and then I had students who were so involved in their art and I found love with art and clinical Center that they're like AJ I would really like to do anything so I went out and wrote a facilities for VIP classes and I already had a good time we offer as much as larger schools do I'm a well-rounded student I'm a practicing artists I can show you awards that went on Words and sculptures in one Awards and photographers Awards and Ceramics so we're not just this like oh he's just a Ceramics teacher you can Awards in every campus and the most well-rounded Fire Department in the area of a child who wants a well-rounded mounted address well my name is Adams wiggling with my teachers um but you can see it's just a great to see what they've done not just with the the heart department but also this is an internship also with our own director of communication and Community engagement of what she has taught Lily and Lily actually comes to our office and when she comes to our office she is not the students at norfield she is more of the professional she's dressed up and it's just really neat what they have done with that that program but also then highlighting just one of the programs that we have at MSD and this one was with the art I know Mr Zeebo is he was a little concerned that you know maybe some of this was a little too much over the top as far as all the competition part of it but it is a fact about how well they have been doing and you notice there are a lot of things that Mr Snyder will put on there as far as as far as all the awards that they have been winning and so it's good to have that competitive Spirit also he does some coaching and things like that so he brings that into the classroom it's really neat to see though how someone just takes art like he said just takes art for the credit but it kind of falls in love with it and now we'll be going to Ball State to be able to pursue that career in that and so that's great to know so I didn't read this earlier but Laura taught her Lily about the video creation this semester everything from crafting the vision script creation interviewing filming and even editing with Advanced software so it's really really great to see that thank Mrs Johnson too for continuing that on next year we'll be doing something different with that but we'll continue the internship so I have that and I believe um let me check and make sure that no other ones that someone put on here at the very end I think that's it for the recognitions so we can move on then all right so now I want to go ahead you want to introduce Mrs ball yeah so Melissa is our transportation director she does a great job and so she tried something new this year and I'll let her explain that and I want to steal her Thunder do you want me to stay here or you can stay there okay it's fine um so we've seen a few other schools do this around the state uh to test drive with us so we have been Dr and I have kind of been talking about for the last year excuse me a year or so and um we said we're doing it this year so April 22nd was the day we did it at norfield it was really a perfect setup there uh weather was uh it was okay but we we went we got through it we had um I'll read a little bit of what I have we had regular Rock drivers there to help we had everybody from experience of five years all the way to 40 plus years of being a Carla Gaines she's been doing this for quite a long time so she was there so we had a lot of good questions asked of these uh drivers and some good information uh the biggest thing everyone is sort of afraid of is how big that vehicle is so we they got to test that out we had them do a little pre-trip inspection just to kind of go around the bus to see what is there they did a small obstacle course and then we had a mock pick up a student so they used their lights and their stock arm we then had them go around Northfield to Sharp Creek and had them pull in like our buses normally do in the afternoon to do afternoon pickup to just feel what that's like to pull into a parking spot um and then they came back and we actually had them back into the spot where they um started and we had quite a few that were pretty excited afterwards and they're they're really amazed at how they said this wasn't as bad as I thought so um so I had about 10 CDL manuals that I got from the license branch I gave out all 10 and actually waited about three to four more so I had them go to the BMV and I've gotten back about five to six replies that they're on their way into getting everything accomplished so if we can get more than that my Hope was low so I'm actually super excited because we're going to have our trainer very busy this summer and that's exciting for him and for myself to get some more drivers so we have a couple people who are retirees um I even go to the next ones sorry Mike so there's our drivers who helped um it was a little chilly that morning but they got to warm up on their bus so we had like I said Carla and then Tom our trainer um Nikki prom is new to us this year and then Susie's been around for a while uh Cheryl Barton's been around um Juanita and then um Teresa Sears all great people to ask some questions also highly appreciated their help that day for sure um and then if you go to the next one there's one there's just a few of the obstacle course we had them go through um um yeah those are kids we picked up for the day so um but it worked out really well um it looked beautiful but it was mighty chilly that morning so uh I was just thankful no ring and it didn't hit until right at noon when we were done so we were we were very blessed with that um and just the people who came out like I said we had a fella who was getting ready to retire and he's very interested in having something to sort of fill his days maybe not anything permanent and we even have a couple of ladies who one is from California moving back this way and she had a house all of her stuff from California we just have to transfer over um and then we have a young mother who is interested in doing this to be on her schedule with her kids so um it was very like looking in the mirror 20 years ago I can't believe I can say that but she's in the same position I was when I very first started and I'm super excited to talk to her so um she's she actually contacted me today so she's pretty excited she's getting everything done so actually the funny thing about that one was she walked up and she used to ride Cheryl Barton and Cheryl said what are you doing here she's like well I'm gonna try it so now she's very interested though that was just a little full circle moment but it was a very exciting day and we do want to do another one next school year probably in the fall and we will try it Southwest just to kind of split it up and you know get some more interest out stuff maybe um so be looking for that how many people did you have attend we had um we had about 25 sign up that we had about 20 to 22 attend we had a couple people who didn't even sign up happen to see us out there and they they stopped in and we're like come on in yeah we'll take you so I just Earl I want to say kudos to Melissa I mean this is all all her doing uh you know her and I have had conversations about recruitment because we know that many of our bus drivers are getting to that point where the retirement age and so we need to find replacements and Melissa has really stepped up to that challenge I think she's trying to do things that are getting people comfortable with driving a bus and making things as easy as possible because it it does take time and effort you know one of the other things that she has done is she's worked on making our area testing site for part of the testing process I don't know what it's a pre-service class that everyone has to do and it's hosted by the state it's a it's a theory portion of the CDL program and the state is who host that puts it on but other schools or other areas host the site for them to be able to do that and a lot of the places it's um Fort Wayne Muncie Kokomo so it's an hour away which isn't terrible but when you're going an hour that day and then you gotta go back the next day and back the next day in the back and kind of being so we're having one at Northfield at the end of May and we're going to try to do that again I've already talked contacted the state and you know try to do that again for next year so I said I appreciate all that Melissa's doing to help I'm just doing a great job so we cover all the costs right of applications yeah we cover all the costs as well it's reimbursement we reimburse them signed one bonus so we're still doing those things we've been doing those for a couple years now um you know we also encourage our staff our current staff that may be half the time to to do those before and after school routes to participate we actually have one school teacher that does that for us and we have some AIDs that are doing that as well and we encourage a lot of those staff to kind of fill in too if they can um get extra income that's right on top of it so besides Asylum too we also have the referral programs so thank you Melissa thank you thank you very much all right I'll go back to our agenda and Christian will go ahead and introduce yes so I have three wonderful managers one of them is actually a food service director as well um just to kind of give us an update it's probably been oh I would say almost probably pre-covered uh the last time that they came in and just kind of gave us an update on food service so I just asked them to come in and kind of share some things as far as what what is all involved and what they do to help provide meals for our students so thank you oh great I'm Becky Bradley I'm the business director slash Southland High School medic right now I've been doing this I hate the minute at the end of maybe 30 years I've done a manager for 23 the director for sale and I guess I was our first official resource director they hired so [Music] um I have three managers currently I have a Suzanne Bethel which is down here she's Southwood Elementary application manager she's been great to cook for three years manager for two years and I'll let these lovely ladies introduce themselves I'm Amanda Rhodes and I'm the manager at Northville High School I'm sure Creek Elementary and this I'm just finishing my ninth year and I'm Ashley Schaefer and I'm the manager at Metro North Elementary um this is going to be my second in a few months year finishing this school year as a manager and I started out actually as a sub and a dish room so [Music] then we go outside um currently we are serving about 500 breakfast a day and about 1300 lunch today but we don't have schools um a lot of people don't realize that there's a lot to menu planning we have a lot of paydays we have no patterns we have restrictions we have calorie ranges sodium ranges that rages did we have um six different sub vegetable groups we have to work into so all this has to work together with Wicked on the deal so if I get the calories right within the sodium is too high so we'll break down the sodium the calories are off so we try to work everything in that we can plus you have all these kids say well I don't like this but I like this you try to work that out so always try to change the video every month there's always somebody wanting changes seriously I'll get it all done did we change that on one so but we try to change the menu up we try to stay with those trends like we got the popcorn chicken today is one of our biggest days we have a Asian day where we answer you know since our pork Cheryl says um we got a lot of favorites right now um garcella marks ardal really good this year but it's by slowing down which it does every year but we're still trying to keep it going um on the ordering part when covet hit it was like a nightmare but we got through it we uh ordering is picking up now during code with probably half the stuff we tried to get in we couldn't get so we were running between schools trying to take borrow still being food but started this school year out I think is it about much better or maybe a couple items every time we order but things are much better now so thank God and I felt bad for her and my other manager that's not here because they were thrown in during coveted and they survived I remember Mike calling me a couple times [Music] but we did it so we can survive covered we can do anything um right now we're struggling with Staffing we've had them some days you'll see us castle with salad bar cancel this or that is because of staffing issues we currently have four openings we got three filled but not until it will fall and we still have one poster so we're really really trying to get everybody we got two of them on the side right now so I'm just gonna find that right here this summer we'll have the summer feed in June and this is Metro North Elementary this is more setting that up we're heading up these two lovely ladies and volunteer to do the food Portion so they'll be working the food cart um it's running the month of June and we'll leave Monday through Friday and we have breakfast at lunch um it's all reimbursable it's like you know everything else um we highly encourage anybody that would like to to visit our schools we are always welcome welcome anybody on the board or outside parents or anybody how many school lunch or breakfast um that's the best way to sometimes see what we served with his um it's they get quite a variety and we're always trying like I said try new things so always still welcome to come visit the school eat lunch with us get back maybe you show up I will buy your lunch come and visit s please [Music] and on the 24th of this month we're having our Southwick High School annual cookouts we all love to come to cook opportunity so and this year it's great it's in charge of the grilling so you'll need a helper so no no I need no help on the grill Mr McDaniel Mr uh critical I used to do the grilling but hey one's gone and one says no so we'll approach everything else we took out so interesting questions we do provide free breakfasts for all of our students yeah and that's really that's really a sales and breakfast this year probably double D because like I said in high school I know we were doing 30 40 breakfast today now we're up over 100.
