so many significant people who have impacted Our Lives immensely throughout our high school years we would like to thank the wonderful people here tonight that we are the privilege to call our parents whether you are a mother a father Grandpa or Grandma or an aunt or an uncle we are here graduating today because of all you it has been an amazing journey and one of my fellow and one of my fellow class of 2023 members will most likely never forget four years ago the class of 2023 was just walking through the doors of Columbia High School and we have had many memories over the course of our high school Journey we all had one goal in mind and that was to make our mark on Columbia High School and make our mark on the world once we graduate the night has come where we will now move forward making our mark on the world we are your class of 2023 not just because we scooted our way past every year but because we put in the hard work and effort to get to where we are today we could not have done that without family friends and teachers constantly encouraging us to keep up the good work it's not all about if you look good or fit in at your school it's about the Legacy that you will leave once you graduate Dr Seuss once said you're off to great places today is your day your mountain is waiting so get on your way I pray that the class of 2023 will walk out of here today feeling proud of all they have accomplished over these last four years I wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors thank you [Applause] foreign Office of Education sent over documents to give to our I'll give hers as well can I ask Caleb Joseph our valedictorian please come forward [Music] [Applause] foreign hi everyone I'm Kayla and I want to start off by saying welcome welcome graduates faculty and family members especially younger siblings who may or may not be happy to sit through this graduation and thank you I appreciate you being here and listening to me being the one thing in between your students their diploma and the end of this graduation but while I have this power I'd like to tell a little story when writing this speech I tried to come up with some amazing tale to tell but all I could think of was how much I really wanted to take a nap so now this story isn't life-changing by any means but I hope it'll at least not bore you to death I have this necklace it's just a small little thing that many of you would have never noticed unless you know me but I've worn it nearly every school day for the past five or six years always just this one now it isn't some Grand inheritance that I got from my great grandmother nor is it a treasured birthday gift I got when I was young I actually got it with a book we used to have these Scholastic book magazine things and it happened to come with one this necklace means nothing it's there's not anything special about it but by meaning nothing it means something okay I get it you probably all don't care about my silly little necklace but it's just something I love I love taking simple ordinary things of life and turning into and turning them into something special from collecting vintage postcards and presidential pins to celebrating February 19th for no reason other than that I had a really good day one year I fold paper airplanes whenever I'm stressed because a kid I watched after begged me to make a different type every day I enjoy bonding with classmates when we all worry about the same test I cherish inside jokes like the octopus in the lit room and adding John Winthrop to as many essays as I can got him into one more I like taking a plain piece of jewelry and creating a story there are so many amazing things in life some of them are big like graduating high school but most of them are small like remembering that one time with your friend at the lunch table laughing until you couldn't breathe as we walk across the stage tonight we realize we may never see each other again this is the last time the Columbia class of 2023 will be all together and although I hate to be cheesy but there are 24 000 other high schools in the U.S giving these same speeches so why not graduates I hope you look to I hope you look to your future with excitement that you find things you love in every step of the way I hope you do great things so I can tell my future co-workers yeah I went to high school with them I hope you live life with happiness but also sadness and all the other emotions of Being Human I sincerely wish you all the best so now that that's done let's get this graduation I personally would like to start by thanking you all for coming out this morning to help celebrate with us and all of our accomplishments today is a day we have been all been anxiously waiting for since we were little who knew 14 years would go by and what feels like a blink of an eye I don't reflect back on the last couple of years I wish I would have gotten more active gone on more trips and soaked up more of the good memories my advice to other Craftsman would be to encourage you highly to get more active in the activities you are already involved in because I promise when you get to be a senior you will have wished you would have done the activity apply for that reward or even try a little bit harder to let you know that likely nothing will go as planned and that's okay because it doesn't matter what went as planned or what didn't but what you did instead and to know that you don't have to wait to graduate to be great it all starts somewhere so why not now I want to thank the community school teachers and staff that have helped us through all 14 years I would like to thank Ms Bernard specially for pushing me to be the best throughout High School I would have never accomplished as much as I have in the past four years without your content support always agreeing to my ideas and literally taking me all over the United States I would like to thank my families and friends Abby Grace thank you for coming into my life when I really needed you thank you to my aunts and uncles who are always provided a getaway house when I really needed to get away I wanted to my brother I can't wait to continue to watch you grow into the man that dad always hoped you would be remember no matter how far I go or how old I get my drawers are always open for you to come visit and no you cannot turn my room into a brocade and I still plan on coming to visit yeah and thank you to my grandparents for being some of the best two Role Models a girl could have show me strength love and even more faith and to my parents my mom who always works very hard to make sure that we have everything and no matter how hard it is waking up and choosing to be the best for us my brother and I so one of the biggest blessings ever received the man who watches over our family every single day said man who should be here but isn't to my father my father forgiving me my very contagious laugh and always reminded me that I was going to be someone great one day finally to my class thank you guys I can never sum up how grateful I am for each and every single one of you from waiting on the curve outside formatting her to come play with me to walking through those doors as shs students for the very last time from pushing Justice out of his chair in first day of kindergarten to finally say in our goodbyes or from exchanging Pantry items with the twins next door to go into college with them as we leave here today always always remember where you came from who you are and who you want to be the world has endless possibilities and I believe in each and every single one of you I will end with this whatever you do do it from the heart for the Lord and not for the people Colossians 3 23 thank you [Applause] [Music] thank you [Applause] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] hey come on [Music] again [Music] so crazy now the best day of my life [Music] videos [Music] [Applause] [Music] controls [Music] foreign thank you to our Senior Choir members Cody nation and Palladio Cabrera it is my honor to introduce Melody Holt class of 2023 ballad Victorian Melody hole is the daughter of Lisa and Mick Holt Melody finishes her High School career with a 4.0 GPA congratulations Melody [Music] first I'd like to say my allergies are pretty bad today so if I have to cough and take a drink that's why that's why my eyes have been swollen all week besides that good morning and welcome to the graduation for the class of 2023. it is my honor that I am able to give this speech to you all today I would first like to thank all of my parents teachers coaches friends and everyone else who got us to where we are today I know without everyone pushing us to do our very best we wouldn't have made it this far thank you to my parents for always pushing pushing us to do our very best and being for us every step of the way thank you to the teachers and administrators for giving us the opportunities to learn new things and make school enjoyable for the most part and thank you to all that coaches we have had throughout the years that pushed us to work hard and be good leaders not only in sports but also in school in our everyday lives JC thanks for being one of my best friends since you're working to now almost having every single class together since the fifth grade and playing every single sport together possible I don't have anything special to say to you because I'll see you for the next four years and thank you to everyone else for linking this class and all the Amendments we made one to remember most importantly I would like to congratulate the class of 2023 we are here today to celebrate all of our hard work for over the past 13 to 15 years you have been in school and reflect on the memories we have made creative Journey our time at shs sorry I wasn't very shaking everyone always says High School flies by in the blink of an island I didn't realize how true that was until now standing here in front of all of you I think we can all agree our senior year has flown by the fastest I have known some of you since I was very little even though I hadn't gone to school here yet informed many friendships that I would hold on to for the rest of my life I know most of you have done the same too our class has been very close throughout our whole school career even before I came here to witness it we have all learned that it truly needs to have blue double prime it means being kind respectful and hard-working students and athletes with strong school spirit as we grew up many teachers substitutes parents and grandparents always ask us what do you want to be in Europe I'm sure many of you said dancers doctors firefighters NBA players and I remember Jason always wanted to be an astronaut I knew she still has that room today [Music] especially these past couple of years the question has held more stress to less than a day when we are in elementary school the question what do you want to be in Grants us with the idea that what we do and accomplish defines our work many of us have chased titles Awards athletic owners or good grades but the most important and joyful moments were those it was the memories and moments that we got to share as classmates when I think of our class at shs I think of all our field trips to the zoo and Exploration Place dancing at prom especially Ashley because she can liven up the dance floor at any dance decorating for homecoming every year while covet and Justice play hide and seek while the genius at our cars outside Levi missing everyone up in class in the most recent actually throwing up in the sky parasailing while at the same time magic breaks her foot in four places Down Below in the boat looking back at this perspective I challenge all of you to re-evaluate the question what do you want to do when you grow up with a substitution of one word that takes on an entirely new meaning they friends our future around oneself instead of allowing it to be defined by what one achieves who we are is a decision that you get to make and is the only thing that you have control over so when you consider what qualities are important and making you happy with your identity ask yourself if your actions reflect those values if you want to be king are you taking the time to help others if you want to be closer to God are you praying to him and taking steps to get closer to him if you want to be happy are you taking care of yourself accents actions such as these will allow you to create your own identity and perform how you are remembered yeah now on the crossroads in our lives where we begin to make decisions regarding our future many of us are going to further our education some attending a trade school and other starting new careers in any of these environments it is easy to get lost in what we do how much money you make or what we want to achieve if we focus on the material things we lose our identity and become a What defined by statistics labels and career positions instead of a who founded by our beliefs and values so I asked the graduates here today who do you want to be when you grow up whoever you decide to be I pray that each of you experience what it is like to truly live rather than just to be alive so to end this speech I hope you all remember everything you have learned from shs and all the memories that have been made and never forget them I know many of you will become great people and do great things no matter what that might may be I also hope you remember the many blessings God has given to us to be able to grow up in a safe School environment or typically with two things Joshua Moore 9 says have I not commanded you be strong and courageous do not be afraid do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go and lastly as Coda likes to say it's a great day to be able thank you [Music] [Applause] whatever he's in that door [Music] already [Music] right [Music] stories [Music] things [Music] you say foreign [Music] online songs [Music] you are good right now I see the things [Music] let's go foreign [Music] I career we asked the world [Music] but it told me be the good old days [Music] and you're not who I want us [Music] foreign [Music] let's go [Music] that's gonna change [Music] who said that soon [Music] but we can't talk about these things is [Music] foreign [Music] we're here guys hello [Music] online [Music] remember [Music] foreign [Music] one of my best friends since elementary school and this is Mr Hall my football coach he's amazing very good at chemistry that's that's all for today folks peace out foreign [Applause] members of the Board of Education it is my honor to present you the class of 2023.

Bound Brook School District is proud to recognize Mrs Kim credatis from the Community Middle School as the May 2023 teacher of the month I've had the privilege of working with Mrs pradatas for the last nine years during that time Mrs K has held multiple positions in both general education and special education in the middle school math department each year as the Middle School's needs change Ms credatis was asked to take on a new position and new responsibilities however last spring Mrs K asked was asked if she would consider filling this year's seventh grade science position for one of our retiring teachers and once again Miss K stepped up to the plate now at the beginning of the school year it gets better at the beginning of the school year our school experienced an influx of students especially in the seventh grade and it was determined that another math section was needed for our seventh graders however all teachers had a full schedule and we needed a volunteer and as you can guess Mrs credatis agreed to teach that math section during her prep period that means Mrs credatis teaches all seventh grade students science seventh and eighth grade special education science students as well as a section of 7th grade math that's a total of 165 students I actually looked it up today and counted that is amazing Miss credatis all of those students include general education special special at all without a prep period as a science teacher Mrs K Works closely with our friends at students to science Who deliver virtual labs to our students in Bound Brook and has helped organize class trips to the Isaac laboratory in East Hanover each month members of the Community Middle School staff takes turns hosting a faculty breakfast and it is Miss K who is the person who organizes and reminds everyone when it's their turn Miss K Works closely with the child study team to ensure special education students academic needs are being met and collaborates with the inrs team to develop plans for students who are struggling as recently as this past week most Middle School parents watch their children create science projects for tomorrow night's open house and science fair Mrs K was there to help Inspire and assist many of the projects that will be on display it's hard to illustrate in such a short time the impact the teacher can have on her students and on the community arrest assured it is safe to say that Bound Brook is fortunate to have Mrs credatis and on behalf of all the lives you have touched I'd like to say congratulations and thank you thank you [Applause] foreign my fourth time up tonight I promise this will be the last time I see that Brianna has joined us Brianna student of the month 7th grade Community Middle School thank you so just a congratulations again and next we were supposed to have Andy shot as you couldn't be here with us tonight he's going to introduce this idea of restarting the school newspaper he's going to do that at the next meeting so we look forward to that presentation today Mr President sounds good at this point blue will actually take a brief resource for anybody who wants to come down and take pictures um foreign thank you foreign thank you unmuted great all right welcome back everybody we are up to committee reports for this evening uh first up is education Mr dust we had a great meeting of the education committee recently uh the focus of the meeting was to talk about uh the work that our curriculum supervisors have engaged in this past year to better our instructional program and also to discuss uh the upcoming year it was an exceptionally well done presentation very thorough I think all of us found the supervisors to be very informative with regards to math a lot of great work has been focused this year the team is focused on a line in common assessments there's been some resequencing of the Alpha One course to ensure that topics that are tested are sequenced earlier in the year it's been a lot of focus on looking at data to make sure that our academic support interventionists have appropriate data to really Target small group instruction similar themes in English language arts of course the goal is that all of our kids will reach proficiency this particular Focus this past year has been on Independent active reading really making sure kids are engaging with their texts uh tax evidence evidence-based writing the team has also done with got a lot of good work in aligning and making sure that there are logical and sequential guidelines for what constitutes work at the CP level the honors level the at level Etc the team has done a good job of auditing the curriculum to make sure that we are including both modern and traditional texts making sure that the texts that are selected represent the diversity of our student population there's a lot of focus on also programs and software that the team feels will support our teachers particularly in designing lessons that are responsible to where the kids are some of the ideas that were spoken about programs that have gained a lot of enthusiasm within the District of the common lit program a program called i-Ready which also is an assessment that provides teachers with targeted reports on how kids are doing relevant to the particular standards a program called IXL which can be used to supplement supplement instruction in mathematics overall the take away correctly if I'm mistaken is that these programs will supplement the work that the curriculum staff the administrators are doing to help teachers use data to design lessons that really Target where kids are on individual levels we spoke about the value of really designing personalized learning plans with that data and how to develop some instructional practices that may be purposeful and reflected in using all this this data to bring things together in the upcoming year the supervisor spoke about some common things that they'd like to focus on one is making sure that we recognize the assets all students bring to the classroom to limit the idea of students needing remediation to the extent that it might create a deficit mindset to really encourage our teachers to have kids productively struggle to Grapple with difficult tasks to wrestle through things that may be difficult to persevere and also to really make sure that our teachers have really meaningful and purposeful data that they can use to design instruction and supporting students there's a lot of excitement about a program called Intervention manager which tracks the work that we do with particular groups of students and individual students see how they respond to that through the linking platform so linking will continue to house our district data but we also are looking at some other platforms to assess where our kids are it was a great meeting very welcome outstanding thank you Mr Wilson any questions on education all right hearing none we're actually going to go to miss high in place of Mr bowel on governance okay we too had a very productive meeting um was looking at policy and we were talking about the policy regarding professional development with travel and launching and just went through that just to um fully understand what that was about we also looked at a number of things happening on the board of good timeline just from May to September and one was it's the time of year for the superintendent's evaluation so what happens is Dr Freeman does his self-evaluation and then the board conducts their evaluation and then the two held um in June we will be going over that we will have a meeting with Donald Freeman and just go over what the results are with that we also had a meeting with Glenn Jordan who came she trained the whole board on how that is done and where we go to get all of our resources and we are going to be having another meeting on July 19th and that was something that the board really looked at is what is one of our major goals and that means of student achievement so that will be happening on uh July 19th the thing that happens too in the summertime which is just so rapidly approaching is we set board goals for the next year so that will be happening we want that done by August of course so that we can get into the new school year we also talked about what workshops are being offered by um Association and that they have a lot of things that are on there that are you know just free some are virtual some are in person and it was really kind of a quick meeting but it was a very uh productive thing any questions for Sue okay good well done we are up to Human Resources uh Miss Musson is not here this evening so I will do the human resources report on our path we reviewed a number of different items during HR uh the first one was open positions both from within the existing budget as well as a preview of the positions that have been added for the 2023 and 2024 school year so suffice the senator Administration would be very busy if they haven't been busy enough already they will be busy or hiring additional teachers and staff over the next few months everybody should have access to that information which Dr Freeman disseminates through the weekend reports if you have any issues with access please no we briefly discussed the upcoming negotiations with the bbea again we're just in preparation mode we've been in contact with their leadership we are getting ready to plan a date to exchange proposals so that should be happening before the next meeting with luck and we just want to make sure that our proposal is as complete and comprehensive as we think uh we went through the update on the smaller School principal position uh and I'm just happy to acknowledge Ms Suzanne Carbone in the audience this evening um you'll actually see a resolution in section 6 to bring her into the district and I'm just really excited uh to have us back up to full staff and slowly and throughout the district and to begin to make progress on our rules we went through the update on the sick Bank leave again I think that was covered at length at the weekend report but our records there are now fully up to date uh just three retirements still through the end of this school year which I think is in contrast to where we have been around this time in years past and I think is both a positive indication of the staff as well as the administration and the work that we're doing to keep people here uh and the last item that we talked through were the administrative contracts two of which you'll see on the agenda for this evening I work for the assistant superintendent guys one for our board administrator uh I'm sorry board secretary business administrator I think that's it questions up to you for operations right yes sir so the operations meeting went very well it was actually the shortest I've ever experienced and so uh basically we uh we discussed the bricks again and it actually was an interesting thing committee members expressed dissatisfaction with the process where the board was not appraised of the dark bricks after presentation to committee unanimously expressed it with three available for examples that were presented to us would result in at least some project delays due there were two grand color and did not match or accent the existing well so two committee members asked and were taken to school the samples to see the colors of natural light along with the existing School bricks and the committee recommended to complete the projects without the use of accessing risks because the initial selection was almost black in color and the your recent three samples were too great the committee recommended completing the brickwork with field bricks that match the existing brick colors on the other sides without the use of any accent availability um the budget update to Mr gorsky presented everything seems to be good but with the county budget is now finalized Mr Gorski do you have any other finalizing comments on that Mr Zucker the only update is that the county office has approved the final budget that was adopted by the board and we're ready to recover funds as early as July 1st excellent and the board would like to thank the administration and the community and everyone in that process so we really appreciate everyone's finally um you wound down with with Mr Gorski providing the committee a proposal from esm to provide an environmental engineering and testing services as with that I yield back to you Mr President if there are no more comments or questions thank you Mr Zucker any comments or questions on operations very thorough reports this evening our community engagement and communication ad hoc is actually suspended at this point so I will substitute there with the introduction of our newly formed committee on extracurricular activities So Lisa and I were happy to host Mr Steele from the professional staff and we started to talk about the charge for the committee and the work that we intended to do principal among that includes inventory our current programs confirming their intended purpose goals and objectives measuring their current success or satisfaction rates or at least the participation rates understanding any needs or wants to improve performance particularly in areas of commonality impacting multiple programs and then ultimately delivering some recommendations to both the board and administration for consideration generally that charge has been well accepted uh and what we left our initial meeting with was a few action items from Mr Steele to come back with participation numbers in the programs over the last few years and a commitment to review and evaluate that at our next any comments or questions on the new extracurricular committee got it all right the last report is from sue for the Somerset County Educational Services Commission and I have the shortest answer because this committee meets every other month and so it's an offline so the next meeting is on June 7th so I will report with that our committee reports are concluded and we will move uh to item number four which is open to the public for agenda items do you have any agenda item questions or comments uh seen okay no questions online item 5.1 be it resolved that development reported the Board of Education Without recommendation of the superintendent approves the minutes for the following meetings this is a regular and executive session for April 26 2023.

congratulations of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all welcome to the full house tonight we wanted to acknowledge we've changed seats a little bit so bear with me and I just wanted to personally thank you Steve for all the support and mentorship and you know you're the reason that I'm sitting here and I thank you um for everything [Music] I hope we continue working together for a very long time congratulations congratulations for those who haven't figured out Amy is the president of the board yeah yeah um and I just wanted to take a second I I was um I would have actually the country um although we had we knew about all this happening before I left this wasn't a coup [Laughter] yeah that's true but I wanted to take a second and just say first of all it's the right thing for the board I've been the president for six or seven years and I think we have some younger members and we want to develop leadership skills of other people it's important for the school to do that but I also want to say because I wasn't able to say this at the meeting the change occurred uh it's been unbelievably great this board is a fantastic board everyone is committed to this school and cares about the school they work collaboratively and ultimately every question that's answered the framework and it's something that Dave Weisberg constantly would say to us is what's right and what's right for the kids and ultimately that's the decision that basis for every decision we make so I just want to thank the rest of the board members for their support for last year's and as Amy said I just want to make really clear this does not mean I'm going anywhere I want to stay here for as long as I can and I intend to continue thank you Terry would you please call the roll this hasn't changed Frost here no here but Joseph here so yeah Gerson Moon's here Tire here we are six tonight and do we have any correspondence none nobody ever writes this anymore it's a lot and um do we have any visitor statements okay I'll just remind everybody that three minutes um and you can stand up if you want to but please try to keep your remarks to three minutes it's just your name and your village Daniel Destiny Buffalo Grove thank you and do you know why because we're on YouTube and people might be listening who've never heard you before oh I'm already famous I've been on YouTube so whatever um so uh Daniel listening Buffalo Grove uh thanks for the time we'll see you tonight um first I want to say uh thanks um in between last meeting and tonight um I was given the opportunity to talk with a couple of your board members um Mr Steve for us and Mr Don tire and I want to thank you for your time uh as follow-up based on some things we've discussed throughout the school year and I want to thank you for your attention and uh the follow-up on just some of the things that we've discussed that are important to the community on that so I want to thank you for your service and Steve thanks for your service thank you um I want to talk about tonight about um misplaced priorities and not keeping eye on the ball um it's a good Institution we're all Highly Educated here once we leave here and it's good my son graduated here 11 years ago but I am still a Community member I live in the community um and I've touched upon a little bit before but there's another area that I'm going to want to further follow up on that that I think will also benefit the community we've talked about SEL which every one of the department heads uh and their teachers give presentations on SEL and it's talked about rather than academic rigor it's we look at the percentages that increase from semester to semester and we look at it and then I remember gorson at the last meeting that they were presenting math and he said well how about the academic outcomes and that seems to be missing from these presentations and I know we care about academic rigor most of our students go on to college but it seems to be that emphasis is not there and I think that's not in the best interest of the students or the parents or for the community in a broader sense from that standpoint um a DI officer was hired here in the wake of the tragedy of George Floyd he unfortunately and his tragedy that happened on Memorial Day of 2020 and then we went on to hire a Dei officer that started the school year August 17th of that year of 2020.

when are you able to go back as soon as you think oh Rich I'm having a hard time hearing we'll get to myself when when are you go able to go back to work do you think that still didn't come through through I don't know I think if you asked about workers correct questions afraid are you going to go back tomorrow unfortunately our household was blessed with three illnesses at the same time and Parker has had allergies which turned into an asthma attack which has turned into pneumonia oh my God I've got to take him into a specialist tomorrow morning but hopefully after that on to work yeah that many illnesses is no no okay we're on the air okay 5 30 I think we're ready to start yeah we're good uh tell you what why don't we go ahead it's not on the agenda why don't we start with the Pledge of Allegiance okay got a flag back here I pledge of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you everyone all the board members are in attendance at this special school board meeting on Tuesday the 16th member and president Nikki Wilden is attending virtually because of illness the rest of us are here in person we do have a quorum for the meeting and I'll call the meeting to order well I guess do we have a member of the public here or anybody that would like to speak we want to offer the chance to make public comments before we make a business decision Dr Bozeman has picked up the sign up sheet we do not have anybody it's dinner all righty Dr Roberts we can move on to item one a please okay well thank you for being able to accommodate this request is the same resolution we have asked for the last couple of years just a few years ago our legislators in Indiana passed HB 1003 House Bill 1003 which allowed schools to apply for a waiver for a variety of reasons those reasons are included in this particular resolution to improve student performance and outcomes to offer the school flexibility in the administration of educational programs or improve the efficiency of school operations to promote Innovative educational approaches to Student Learning and or to advance the mission or purpose of the school or group of schools our application to the state of Indiana which is then we hope is approved by the state board of education has been to offer four full day professional development days within our Corporation the reason for asking for that is it gives us the opportunity to get 2 000 staff members together and align on working on the direction of our strategic plan we have now had a full year of professional development days like that and previously in the 21-22 school year at two of those we were able to get things approved and then ready for the second semester so we have now had six professional development days of which to draw from in terms of advancing our strategic plan and that would be a part of our application when completing the jotform application that the Indiana Department of Education asks for they do require the submission of a board signed resolution so the resolution that you have in front of you is one that's authorizing the performance-based accreditation waiver and it gets into citing Indiana code that allows us to submit this application gives the reasons that I indicated indicates that we desire to submit a waiver application to the State Board in accordance with Indiana code indicates the adoption of this resolution is necessary and would indicate if you are so inclined that it states that the governing body desires to authorize the school administration to time we take all appropriate and necessary action to submit a waiver application to the state board and then the last piece of the waiver the governing board authorizes the superintendent and designees to take all appropriate necessary action to submit a waiver the waiver application contents must be consistent with Communications between School administration and the governing body president or the governing body president's designee again this wording comes from Indiana code and as indicated our waiver would be about the professional development days not too long ago you approved a calendar that had those professional development days in them and one of the requests for change we made was to move to Thursday prior to Good Friday to take a professional development day from there and instead move it to the total Eclipse day that will be on Monday April the 8th so our calendar right now reflects those days but we annually have to request approval we have asked for multi-years worth of approval the State Board of Education is not willing to do that yet so it is an annual request that we make so this is an annual request to you that I'm asking for this resolution to be approved thank you Dr Roberts board members you've heard the superintendent's request before we get to questions and discussion is there a motion I move that we approve the resolution authorizing performance-based accreditation waiver for professional development as presented by Dr Roberts motion by Mr Grimes is there a second from Mr Graham's motion all second Michelle's thank you um Dr Roberts what's the timeline here when when would the application be finished and submitted to the state and we would submit our finished application which you'll get a copy of by June 2nd and then the State Board of Education would either review that in June or July based upon the Department of Education clearing it for them and providing it to them again ours has been one that we've done a couple of times I'm not anticipating any any challenges last year they had follow-up questions we provided those and a reminder to this and to anybody who's paying attention the reason the state board has allowed us to do these days so in effect we are going 176 days instead of 180 then four days of professional development whether those are not e-learning days students are home without being required to do any additional um activities or homework or whatever the case might be is because the number of minutes or hours that we go per day is already in excess of the of the minimum number of hours that's required by state statutes so when you take that and the fact that's done every day for 176 days in this case it gives us plenty of wiggle room to be allowed those days and so that's we provide the math to the State Board of Education as to how that works out and again I've not had any challenges thus far other questions Dr Roberts would we is it like a hundred Pages or two things yeah the job form is relatively short um it it is a a handful of pages less than five would board members want to review that before it's submitted or would we see it after it's submitted uh it's not required in terms of approval to go to them but I can certainly provide you with a copy that'd be great any other questions or discussion is the board ready for a vote it's been moved and seconded that we authorize the Performance Based accreditation waiver as we've been presented by Dr Roberts all those in favor of the motion please say aye oh are you sure do or local thanks Mr McIver thank you I can do that we'll start with Mr Nowlin please do you vote I or nay I Mr Nowlin votes I Mr Schulz do you vote I or nay I understand I Mr Grimes Divo I or nay aye Mr Grimes votes I Mr major do you vote I or nay aye Mr major votes I Mr Bryant do you vote I or nay aye Mr Bryant votes I'm Ms Wilden would you vote I or nay Ms Wilden votes I and the chair votes I the motion passes unanimously thank you for that I will complete the application and make sure you see that copy before it's submitted to the state to the Indiana Department of Education which reviews it and then sends it to the State Board of Education that sounds great Dr Roberts is in here the business to come before the board today there's not there being no further business I do declare this meeting adjourned

foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] I would like to call to order the school committee meeting for this May 15th um please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance [Music] who lost the flag I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States thank you Improv so um as as usual beginning of our meetings we allot 10 minutes for public comment and so I welcome any oh I'm sorry roll call Jeepers Kathleen Amaral here Chris Oliver here thank you Elizabeth Coughlin here Shannon Jenkins here John Nunes yep um so with being in meetings we allow 10 minutes probably comment and I just asked that when you come up but identify you know your name and then um with it being on the agenda for 10 minutes just be mindful that there might be other people that want to get up and and speak and um try to be as current as possible but come on up I am a 18-year resident of Dartmouth I am a parent of four children who have come through the Dartmouth public schools and I am a third grade teacher for the last 15 years at the Demello School in light of the fincom and the select board fully funding our budget at 4.4 percent we are seeking further classification about a line item in the school budget that is available online there is a line for classroom staff separate from the Administration staff with a percent change of 5.5 percent resulting in an extra 1.5 million dollars the DEA has rallied to support a fully funded budget and we are asking for more transparency as we continue to hear that our Cola increases are at a standstill at the negotiation table thank you thank you hi my name is Donna Costa I'm a secretary at the Dartmouth middle school and I am representing the secretary's unit we feel as a unit that the district does not seem willing to pay the secretary's a fair wage do you not believe we are worth the 8 000 a year we are asking for for the next three years eight thousand is the difference in the salary pay of Dr Gifford and the new superintendent Dr saber Maguire Union secretaries are paid less than their non-union counterparts we were told that fincom and select board have fully funded the school budgets for twenty four thousand the district can pay the union secretaries what they deserve for the next three years we are worth investing in collectively we have 278 years of experience in this District providing Collective support for all administrators in this District we have given you our loyalty we are asking for respect in terms of a fair wage thank you thank you good evening my name is Jillian Bond and I am a lifelong Dartmouth resident I was privileged to attend grades K-12 within the Dartmouth public school system I received an enriched education from passionate and inspiring teachers that afforded me many of the opportunities I've had throughout my life when my husband and I were deciding where to buy a home and start a family 10 years ago this was the primary reason we chose to stay in Dartmouth I am the proud mom of a Quinn's second grader all of the teachers assistants and support staff we've encountered over the past three years have been incredible my son feels loved and supported every day at school through remote kindergarten and on our son has received the highest quality education that we've come to expect from Dartmouth however as a fellow educator in a neighboring District I worry what the next 10 years of my son's education May hold if we don't start valuing our teachers and giving them what they deserve Dartmouth is losing its Competitive Edge in recruiting and retaining highly qualified Educators surrounding districts are offering higher pay and better benefits teachers have the ability to be more selective about the jobs they apply for and ultimately select as the number of Education job vacancies has increased due to teachers leaving the profession at an unprecedented rate since the pandemic anyone who has ever worked in education for more than a few years will tell you that this is truly a calling this profession is so much more than a job your kids become our kids and we often spend more time with them than our own families these Educators aren't here for the money but that doesn't mean it's right to pay them peanuts people should be able to afford to live in the community that they dedicate their lives to even the most amazing students and supportive staff won't pay the bills we come tonight to sa to ask you to fully support our teachers a fair wage in Affordable Health Care seem a low price to pay for the exceptional teachers we have in this District we have heard the new superintendent saying she wants us to be the best in the state and the best in the country we won't get there if you chase away amazing teachers because a poor pay and a horrible Insurance split give our teachers what they deserve so we can keep them in our district with our children thank you [Applause] thank you I am Jody Parisi I'm co-president of the Dartmouth Educators Association and I work at Quinn School over the past few months several of my colleagues have come to speak about the elementary 845 to 905 time the school committee's position is that going directly to the classroom is what is best for students I would like to add context to this topic prior to 2011 for over 30 years students went outside as soon as they arrived at school in the morning in 2011 this changed the argument being that it was taking kids too long to get to classrooms after the bell ring rather than attempting to streamline the process or ring the bell earlier students were instead assigned to designated areas in the building from 845 to 95.

um I'm looking to see what outcomes have happened from that what projects is Mr Haney working on uh who is the eye officer that we hired how much he's getting paid that's taxpayer money what projects what are the outcomes these projects how is it benefiting students those type of things there seems to be a very lack of transparency and if that's going to be the main focus of the school in that area it would benefit to let people know what that is also another thing that comes up I understand uh the head of the Stevenson's teacher Union for next school year 2324 is going to be Robert Penta a math teacher here well he's probably earned that position but some of the Unholy alliances that exist that maybe don't pay attention that you count on community members being just interested focusing on other things uninformed and basically compliant in terms of that Robert Pinta good teacher here he's made out of the teacher Union his wife teaches at a feeder School District 96 Carolyn Pinta who is a very divisive Community bully okay she demonizes people in the community and when you're having and no that the floor is mine don't be making any non-verbal comments hold on the floor is yours [Music] she there that's going to affect some of your policy making going forward if that's what people want in the community that you have somebody who demonizes us because be EG Pride which is a great organization which she runs she has gone out of her Lane and she is divisive and you guys just sit there and keep holding your heads guess what there should be a reckoning that the community understands that everything you're doing is not right even though I like you individually why don't you wake up and do things for the community and for the best interests of the students so you can sit there and give your happy talk guess what it's not so much and you know what why don't you concentrate that including your incompensates of people and and make the comment over that Alex on that why don't why don't you pay attention to what I'm saying on that I listen to you talk excuse me you're done use three minutes over you're over okay moons I'm glad you're the dictator I am you are the dictator absolutely is that what you want to tell the community you're the dictator and the longest to remember stop settle down we can talk after yeah and I have like I said from the beginning of the meeting we'll talk about Frost and tire met with me Mr gobble is back with me in in October I wonder if I will do that Miss moons you're out of order that you sit there that you're a dictator let everybody know that's here that you're a dictator and you have power over them you work for us I don't work for you you work for us I don't work at all I'm a volunteer oh really yeah you're out of line there's kids in the room you're out of line I didn't lose any swear words it's your behavior let's just talk backwards oh really my behavior it's let's let's just say does everybody think everything's okay with your property taxes with your policies I guess it doesn't matter it doesn't matter you guys sit there and you're in power okay okay any other statements okay Alex we're sorry what um a little bit of a cleansing this is your last meeting I'm very sad to leave you all but I know you guys are gonna be in good man so now are you going to introduce us of course of course these are very big shoes to fill everything tiny shoes awesome hi everybody my name is Kosh I am a rising senior at Stevenson and super excited to work with you all next year and I know Alex has done an amazing job and so it's gonna be hard to live up to that but really excited to get to know each and every one of you and you know make an impact okay and all of you guys are in Gray hands he is amazing so you guys will have a phenomenal year next year so to get on with our presentation uh speaking on academics we had a lot of different competitions going on and a lot of accomplishments achieved through our different academic clubs here at Stevenson so for starters Aces competed at the Eastern Illinois University competition and they took home the state championship you guys are going to see that a lot of these are state championships so that just goes to show how phenomenal all of the competitive clubs here are at Stevenson and then Statesman won their first State title ever at the state journalism finals uh which is also a very incredible accomplishment I know some people within that organization Network very tirelessly and hard during their school day to produce the paper that we have so I know it's very well earned and I'm very proud of my friends that are on Statesman and then for the third time in a row math team won the Illinois State comp Championship so they also took the first half first place prize home and then the Science Olympiad team also earned the most points ever to win state so they not only one state but they achieved a record within state so that's also a very large accomplishment along with the five teams from Stevenson that are heading to the team's Nationals competition and then Moving On Athletics so this one was actually recent over this past weekend but the girls Batman team took home the state championship as well so that is a very big accomplishment for them my friend Lindsay she's on that team and I know she worked very hard lots of practices lots of days where she didn't want to go to school but she had to for practice so I know a lot of that paid off and I know a lot of them are very excited that they took home this championship and then the boys baseball team defeated Waukegan on their senior night so senior night itself is already a large celebration for seniors and taking home that Victory is also something proud to celebrate and then for Arts we had a lot of different artistic events happen in the past month at Stevenson I know this past weekend there was the improv show and got a lot of good laughs from that it was a great way to end off my senior year but we also had the percussion concert and that showcased a variety of literary works and portrayed several different emotions that spoke to the audience so I know a lot of people that went there had a very impactful time while engaging with that concert then we also had the 1X so there are six student-produced and directed One X where other students were able to participate in and that was really unique as well because they were student produced and given like the wide variety of different one acts there was musicals I remember one of them came from my creative writing class and we got to read it last year as well as a class where all of us kind of played a part in that so that was a really cool experience to see that become a one act and then we had the spring dance concert which also showcased some student choreographers as well so students were able to choreograph their own pieces and then present to others so that was an awesome experience and then the music production showcase so that occurred and I believe they're still raising funds for it in order to support three charitable organizations um so that's really good to see students connecting their passions to something philanthropy and then also the spring band concert um that also kind of related to original works and there was also some arrangements showcased within that concert that was a lot one thing that we didn't mention um it was Alice Newton's last choir concert last week which was a very uh emotional and exciting beautiful songs they had a song prepared especially for the event written for it was amazing so they also performed uh the finals from I don't know if any of you guys watch this but Pitch Perfect um they did a whole acapella showcase and it was really simple it was crazy I think I watched it every single class period that day because all the teachers were so amazed by it but then moving on to freshman Wellness day so as an FMP I was here to witness it and it was kind of cool to see because they were trying to rebranded from last year um and I think they did a really great job they had a bunch of different activities a keynote speaker if you can see in the middle there was kind of this Bagel exercise and one cool thing that I found from that day was how they kind of differentiated between equity inequality they really kind of used a graph in order to show the differences between the two and I think that just provided A New Perspective to freshmen because a lot of them are still in their immature phases but then um kind of that graph and symbolism with that showcased um the difference between the two and kind of put things into perspective but a lot of the freshmen had a lot of fun there was focus on physical and mental activity um I think that's a great thing Stevenson does I know we have our weekly counselor visits where the counselor stresses mental health and different aspects of Stevenson but I think that's unique from other schools because not many schools in our area or in Illinois have so many resources to mental health and focusing on bettering both physical and mental health so that's something really unique to Stevenson that I think freshmen really appreciate and then for Polish Fest so I know this happened recently as well but it celebrated the Polish culture with some foods um traditional games dances trivia um so my friend went to this and she said she had an amazing time but a lot of people came even those that weren't polish so um just coming together to celebrate this was awesome and then for senior Awards so this is crazy but over 300 seniors were recognized they had like a slideshow with three seniors on each page and people would scream every time they saw themselves on the presentation so that was really cool to see and recognize the seniors who will be going off next year to celebrate and do new things in college and just kind of recap the past four years at Stevenson and then Senior Sunrise so in the middle that's a pick of me and my friends with our colleges it was just kind of cool to wrap up uh Stevenson with that celebration I was like worried about senior assassin that day because I was like oh no like I need to be inside the school by 8 30 but it's fine like I'm out now like it was too much work it was way too much work um but I got her I was the one yeah yeah he got me I I didn't expect it yeah um but yeah it was cool to sign the dogs I know that's a tradition I remember because I was in chem last year I would sign all of my friends dogs because most of them were seniors and I was excited for that tradition as well then you got to pin where you're going to college um so I know a lot of seniors were looking forward to it and they had an awesome and then for Indian night so that was also a cultural celebration that featured dances games speakers so that was also a great way to unite the Indian Community then for the fashion show so I had one of my friends participate in this and it was awesome as you can see um on the left some of these outfits are really cool really unique um just showcases the creativity within our student body um and it was also for a charitable cause as well all prophecies went to dress for success which is a non-profit for woman empowerment and encourages people to dress professionally and provides the resources in order to do so so that was also a cool thing and I got to attend that and then finally moving on to our student experiences so I asked everyone given that it is the end of the year what their favorite memory over the course of the year was and this is what they said so student a said my favorite memory from this year was winning best large delegation with my model un team I felt ecstatic because it was fun to work with my team achieved such a high accomplishment for one last time student at B said I think it would have to be competing at Batman and state as a freshman even though I didn't place it was cool to see my team win the championship and celebrate with them then students see my favorite memory was making FMP this year so that applies to the club I was really nervous during my interview but opening the email and seeing the word congratulations made me feel really proud of myself I personally related to that because I remember being really happy when opening my email uh and then student D my favorite memory was prom it was so much fun taking pictures and seeing everyone dressed up it's a perfect way to end a senior year so that's all I have for all of you I just wanted to say thank you I've um really enjoyed getting to know and see each of everyone of you over the past month and I'm gonna miss you guys next year but as I said before you guys are going to be in great hands thank you [Applause] so now we're going to transition into some of our Awards the awards part of this ceremony and the board gives an award called the ambassador award it's the highest award that we give to the students who go to Stevenson High School and so Alex we couldn't be more proud of the work you've done we think that this year you brought just so much energy and even changing to the student experience lots of different ways to present what's happening in and around the building for everybody to hear and you've just done it just magnificently even with the shiny feet so um let me get a picture of you know Echo all of that these were amazing presentations and we're gonna miss you and we know you're going on to do great things thank you okay [Music] and Alex this is for you from us as well there's when you are off at Penn you said yeah you could have a Stevenson water bottle also make sure you use that all right and then a Stevenson notepad for all of your studies so congratulations congratulations so we did hear that it's been just an amazing month and a half here at Stevenson lots of things to celebrate many of the clubs and activities that we saw one state championships so the sports they just it just happened right it was before we could even get them onto this agenda but the aces team which uh the academic challenge team they are here tonight and we are very excited to celebrate with them so I'm just going to call you out when I call your name please come up to the front give a big round of applause Timothy okay Jaden Chen Aaron Dan Aditya rude venden Rafi [Applause] Mikhail Severin [Applause] James tan [Applause] ricking the car thank you Renee uh Andre vlasov [Applause] thank you Joshua Wang congratulations Lillian Wang [Applause] Catherine Yin [Applause] Ethan uh Zhang [Applause] Joseph Zoo [Applause] and I don't see coach Deb wurzma also stab here would I miss somebody yeah I think that's it all right so one big round of applause for this whole team let me do this let me get like a couple of short folks in the front maybe three or four so we could see it squeezed in here we're gonna get family pictures one more maybe right here there you go kind of squeeze inside all right I'm gonna get out of the way let's get that photo all right everybody get your shots yeah so now I'm gonna quickly ask you guys all to turn around kind of back up maybe a step or two just back up a little bit and turn around face that way the board would like to hear a little bit okay that could have been dangerous but they're out of wood we're safe so I'm gonna let you let the board ask a couple of questions about uh about your competition yeah I don't have a question well I do have questions but I want to make one quick observation you exhibited your skills right away because when Mr gobble said okay let's have a couple of short people in front one of you in back said That's you tell us about the competition I mean what's it like how's it set up um so it's seven different tests and seven different subjects and everyone has the choice between uh two different subject tests whichever ones they're best at or whichever ones they prefer so that's how the general competition works and then we compete against different schools in the area and eventually in the state area in Illinois yeah so there's biology chemistry computer science English engineering Graphics physics and math you got all seven so you must know what it's doing so how many how many of you are a senior CC comes back to your one next year too and where are you going to school or don't you know yeah we're all actually going to UIUC you're going to UIC computer science yeah together what are the majors we're gonna uh I will be majoring in physics in like the College of Engineering for one year and then I will be transferring to a certain time after one year okay and you I'll be majoring in math computer engineer computer engineering um I don't know exactly but a few dozen I think at least and what schools did you uh did you beat out to win the state championships well all of them [Applause] all right well congratulations [Applause] [Music] bring up our next next recipient I'm really this award is very interesting and I'm I'm I can't wait to hear the conversation that we have after this one to let them get settled in all right so um this year we've been lucky enough to have on the student advisory Council for the Illinois State Board of Ed one of our students has served in that role from all across the state so if I can freeze please bring forward ishan foreign members this is a this is a really interesting position that you saw how did you get interested because I knew that there was a state board of education yeah so I actually um knew our rep from last year I think his name was Murad and um like I wasn't super close to them that had like one conversation with him and he was like a really nice guy he like showed me around Stevenson showed me like a lot of opportunities and one of the things he was involved with was uh the like Board of Education um advisory committee and it's like freshman year I'd like definitely try to get involved a lot Stevenson and one of his big pieces of advice was like Stevenson's a great Community but you also have to think outside of it and so one of the things he told me was to apply for it and I'll be really honest with you when I like filled up the application I thought it was like the worst thing I'd ever written um but like I was lucky enough to be appointed and I served with like 24 other members from across the state and it was really cool I think this year particularly we focused on two main like challenges that I think for like me at least weren't too specific to Stevenson but are still pretty like widespread issues throughout the state and so for us the big ones we focused on were social media awareness and bullying prevention and I'm lucky enough to know that Stevenson has a great culture around like not bullying each other and honestly better social media practices than a lot of other schools um but that's what I worked on a lot with the Board of Education this year to work it's tackling and creating reform yeah um so this year I served as Secretary for the council and um that was pretty fun experience so hopefully looking to come back as a vice president or president of coming here but yeah awesome if you have any interest in governance um yeah I'm actually involved in the student council here at Stevenson so it's pretty fun uh see Mr gobble there all the time but um yeah like definitely think it's a great career option um politicians are always pretty fun people to talk to um but yeah I'm honestly pretty interesting government uh look to make a career out of it one day sounds like you're off to a great start perfect congratulations now we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to celebrate with some of our amazing faculty members tonight also um each year for the state of Illinois we are able to nominate folks in various categories for the those who Excel award again thinking about put on by the only Illinois State Board of Ed and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to announce the folks that we nominated and all of them received awards at the state level which we are incredibly proud of so the first one we're going to start off with is the CL in the classroom teacher so pick a teacher one classroom teacher who is outstanding we'd really like to recognize Maddie Vogler please come forward thank you you might have heard a little bit earlier in Alex's report about our music production class Maddie works with the music production class and uh it's an absolutely fantastic job any questions for me okay we're gonna keep bringing them on so soon support Personnel our counselor we'd like to bring forward Irina kogan [Applause] awesome thank you Irina she's amazing the next award our early career educator award goes to Griffin forbert he's not here tonight but big round of applause for him anyway [Applause] and then we also get to nominate one of our educational support personnel and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate with Reem varghese come on in thank you [Music] those will break so don't drop things we're going to get a picture of everybody in a minute okay and now last we get to recognize a team of folks that work in our school to better the place and um this year we had the opportunity to pick a team and recognize this is one of the largest Academic Teams in the building for those of you know we we organize all of our curriculum each class operates as a team and they work together um well in the last five years this this AP Physics one team has had a complete redo of their class and had to rebuild what they believe their class to be and um how many kids took the test this year 650 it was over 600 students it was the largest AP exam that we offered here at Stevenson High School and it was physics right so not starting with easy stuff so we're going to bring everybody in we've got the whole team here there's a lot of them Hannah alberstein come on in the former Patriot by the way Josh Beau today [Applause] Sarah Cahill [Applause] thank you Andy Fitz [Applause] Molly Greenberg [Applause] Nate's still wearing his cleats from the game [Applause] all right Mark lindenberger Come On In Kristen one also a patriot Jenny Ruda [Applause] John Wilkie [Applause] and last but not least the big toe of the group she's the team leader Christie Rona thank you so if I can just have all of you come out here we'll do like a group picture of everybody if we can get everybody out here in the space right here Steve wouldn't like to take responsibility just get everybody in here you know the kids figured out how to get in line in like a minute [Music] one two three [Laughter] [Applause] congratulations [Music] [Laughter] equipment what okay well like this before the accessories yeah I'm not sure [Music] um I just want I'm not sure if the board we had a chance to talk to the award winners before the board meeting and I spent most of my time I didn't get a chance to talk to everybody because they were so interesting um but I basically spoke with the physics team and I just uh I'm not sure if all the board members are aware of this but 700 people 700 kids taking AP Physics is an amazing number of kids and it's not just that it's the number of kids the physics teachers explained to me that half of our students that are taking the physics AP are sophomores and half of them are Juniors most and one of the teachers came from another top 10 school in the state where they're all seniors taking it and our kids are sophomores and juniors and then we got into a discussion about the collaboration and the way that team worked and it just really spoke about what the school was about and the culture of the school and it's so unique some crazy facts that exist we are about we represent five percent of the AP Physics one test given in the state wow tapping here we're five all by ourselves it's a 900 and something high schools yeah and there what's your average score 3.8 3.8 this is a little anecdotal but one of those students that took the test was my daughter and her experience based on what she tells me about her friends is that she's absolutely on fire for science as a sophomore and that speaks very highly of that entire team so really really good job so we're obviously very proud of all of our students and faculty members who get recognized um in those different programs however um one of our uh awards that I think the board feels the most special about is our Student Success story Awards and our Student Success story awards are given to students who've demonstrated really I think in many ways uh our mission of success for every student and have achieved wonderful things in their own right over their course of their four years here at Stevenson so um Miss Bowen I think I'm going to turn it over to you to provide us a little introduction to our two students who we have the honor of recognizing today sure and Dr twaddell is right this is without a a doubt a highlight of our year to be able to celebrate our special students I think we recognize that high school is a journey and all Journeys have um High moments and moments of Celebration and they also sometimes have some bumps in the road and some challenges that we have to work through and what we're really um so proud of our two students that we get to honor tonight is that they navigated that Journey with such resilience and strength and growth and really learned ways to push through the challenges that presented themselves during their High School time and to develop those skills around self-advocacy and accessing resources and connecting with team members and students that are not only so important for their success here at Stevenson but will be invaluable in whatever Adventures life holds after they graduate from Stevenson and so tonight we have two amazing students to share and and tell a little bit more about their stories with you our first is Elizabeth Mark um and Elizabeth kind of cool we have I believe Mom Dad younger brother we're looking forward to working with you um and um yeah two more years right yeah okay okay cool we're ready we're ready um and we also have Grandma and Grandpa and I believe grandpa is a class of 1966 Stevenson Alum so we're here so we're going to start with Elizabeth if that's okay and I also want to acknowledge um there's a team that comes together to partner with our students and our families and really support them through their High School experience and that team is so proud of Elizabeth and we have a couple of those team members here tonight so we have Elizabeth's counselor Jennifer Falk who's with us tonight and Angela O'Brien the school psychologist that has worked with Elizabeth over the years and we also had Mr veracic who has been an awesome support for Elizabeth through our guided study program and so I know this team not putting words in their mouths couldn't be prouder of you and is really happy to be here tonight to celebrate your success and so I think what I'm going to do we're excited to hear a little bit more about your story I'm going to turn it over to Miss O'Brien I think she's gonna start us off as we listen to a little bit more about Elizabeth's story [Music] sure my seniors in my opinion Miss Elizabeth mark and serving as her counseling service provider and Section 504 coordinator in my role here as school psychologist I've had the privilege of working closely with Elizabeth especially these past two years and this has led me to nominator for the well-deserved Senior Honor tonight I'm just going to give a brief overview of a little bit of her journey and then I'm going to turn it over to Elizabeth herself to speak to you a little bit in her own words so four years ago Elizabeth came to us as a tiny freshman Stephenson as an as a freshman with an individual education plan this plan included many instructional and testing supports and included some speech and language Services some counseling services special education instruction and case management and she took full advantage of that support throughout her freshman year towards the end of her freshman year she underwent a re-evaluation and based on her growth her diligence and her ability to reach her goals that were in her IEP she no longer qualified for special education and she was she was supported from then on through a section 504 plan at that time she also received daily support of a guided study class and as many of you know that is the district's tier 2 Executive functioning class that supports kids every day who just benefit from a smaller class size and more adult assistance in their day Elizabeth took full advantage of those supports she increased her skill sets and test preparation homework completion and really the goal of that program is for kids to develop executive functioning and independent skills and she showed that so well over time she no longer demonstrated me a provided study not even a regular study hall was needed in her day she just continued to grow and grow in her independence in South Africa so since that point she has earned numerous accomplishments and awards um this young lady has earned a 4.1 GPA she is with Google's honors role she is a National Honor Society member she is a German Honor Society member she has earned the investor award for FCCLA not only state but also National gold medals she has earned the ihsa Scholastic Achievement Award and she also made the NFC All-American team as team manager for the Varsity softball team last year during her four years here her extracurriculars have included the sports broadcasting Club the fashion magazine club and the family career and Community leaders of America Club a lot of varied interests but in addition to our economic accomplishments I believe that Elizabeth is a young woman who also really has her priorities in order values her family she highly values her faith and she really sees the importance of her health and overall well-being she's also a great friend but perhaps the most impressive that she seeks to make a positive difference in the lives of others one thing that I really admire about Elizabeth is that she takes time out of her very busy school and Family schedule to teach religious education to young children on the weekends she also has a Litany of other volunteering activities kind of interesting Elizabeth Prides herself on being a seamstress she loves to bake cook and design creative lesson plans for preschool-aged children which is a talent that she was able to just learn through her experiences in the teaching young children classes at Stevenson clearly she is an impressive young lady with much to offer and proud to have had the privilege of working with her as well as her supportive family through her diligence intrinsic motivation and willingness to access the wonderful resources that Stevenson has to offer Elizabeth now graduates from Stevenson High School as an incredibly strong self-advocate and top-notch student she is surely well prepared for her next chapter as a college student and in the fall she plans to major in Career and Technical education with an emphasis in family consumer Sciences at Eastern Illinois congratulations thank you did you have something you want to share Elizabeth sure yeah thank you first thought Miss O'Brien for the monthly speech and thank you all for nominating me I'm very grateful for that that was a lot of talk they cover most of everything but there was one thing I didn't want to talk about is not only my high school Journey but my journey before high school because that was kind of stepping stone to where I'm at now so um think about what to say but um my brother here he he's having a lot of medical issues so when he was born he has like a very rare disease so um he's been through a lot of medical surgeries hospitalization so I would come with him and part of that I miss a lot of school when I was younger so it was a lot for me to try and catch up with schoolwork um so I've come a long ways and Special Ed I was I think I think yeah so I had earlier invention when I was very very little so I had like PT OT I think speech therapy because I have um it's called auditory processing so I have trouble sometimes with like hearing and interpreting things so I had a lot more issues with the speech side of stuff so that's why I needed more special ed it's because I struggled a lot with writing and talking so but um from there it was let's see I can't think it's a lot it's a lot to think about um so I don't know it's great foreign [Applause] congratulations Elizabeth we're super proud of you thank you we're going to make you do a few more photo shoots I'm sorry after this is over out there um we our next student that we're very excited to celebrate is Gabriel de Leon um and I believe we have with us tonight Mr varghese who's going to tell us a little bit about Gabriel I think Gabriel you were also wanting to share something um we're super excited to have Gabriel's parents here too to celebrate him as well thank you so much for being here and um oh and grandma too welcome thank you for being here that's great um and so without further Ado Gabriel would you like to start or would you like Mr Barbies yeah okay okay well we'll ask Mr varies to start all right can I stay here thank you everyone and uh when I spoke to Gabriel Gabriel said I will speak for myself so you know I'm gonna give uploading but before that I just want to share a little bit about Gabriel for me uh part of the SSD I think it was uh uh this is I started with him as a freshman yeah so uh Gabrielle is a student who I feel has grown a lot you know if you look at where you started I think he has really grown and most importantly he has been from where he started I feel like he has made connections not just his peers but also adults and a lot of his specialist members and also Mr B who is his character and I feel like everybody he has made everybody care for him and I will thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you actually you know without the resources that we have we have been very good with listening to us wanted to change classes for the advisor of the SSD you know and also wanted to stick with private study and the help at a point I thought Gabriel was going to drop off our school that's what I was afraid for some time but it was many phone calls many phone calls and zoom calls we struggles are getting back and it's a struggle where I'm sure there are other students in the same situation but it's amazing when we make that connection with the family almost reach into their lives and are able to make those connections and see this values so very proud of you you can you can say I want to thank Mr varghese Mr borisek and Miss uh strudinski who is not here I want to thank all of y'all for wearing me this award I want to thank my uh my dad and my stepmom for being such good role models and um you know they've done a lot for me yeah I come a long way and I know not enough that students have to think about it I want to get I want to show them so the I have certain skills that I watched that I can do yeah I'm really glad for them they're doing so much for me and all the things Mr Morrison for seeing the good you know they've always been there for me I know it's hard for me to say I want to think of but they've done a lot for me you've already shown them how awesome you are yeah they already know yeah yeah I know I've had some rough times throughout all my four years in this school and um you know I thought myself that at one point school is important and I realized that you know I have to give everything I have to myself for myself in the future and of course you know I want to be successful so I can help them because they've done so much for me they've given everything to me and I'm grateful they're all in love that they give um I know it's hard for me to speak because I'm crying but good you know um yeah I just want them to know that I love them I appreciate them and I think Mr Marcus Mr word second for everyone who always talk about my son see that you know I can do a lot more and just a little level of maturity of throughout those years I realized that you know school is always beneficial for you even on the low pronoun of course I want to be successful and pretty much it so sorry for sharing that one thank you thank you Elizabeth and Gabriel your families too and the teams all the people who worked with you throughout your journey to support you we truly could not be prouder of you I know I speak on behalf of everyone in this room you are why we do this work this is what matters and we couldn't be prouder and are looking forward to seeing your little Angelic faces walk across that now Center Stage um in just a week and a half or so so thank you for being here and [Applause] said in addition to thanking our students we would also thank our the parents who are here amazing kids um but we also thought that um on the way out we would also recognize our 1966 graduated yes so we have a special gift for you as well I mean and on a long time so we have a little water bottle for you wow all right okay thank you all very much for being here thank you and we're um we will just transition into the hallway we're gonna take a couple pictures if that's okay and then you can be free to enjoy your evenings thank you so much for coming thank you [Applause] so much congratulations good work s here in a couple years congratulations congratulations yes thank you very much congratulations drinks oh really yep the whole team yeah did somebody grab it yeah you got it all right so I think we have one more award before we get to our presentation you say just you're all good foreign things just work out they just work out we have a special guest tonight who we've been saving the award David look you're even dressed up for it come on over here get up here Dave Weisberg [Applause] this is embarrassing I'm going to button up for this yes thank you for all of your years of service and personally Here Without You I love you and thank you for everything [Applause] [Music] okay ready one two three perfect thank you [Applause] [Laughter] I'll take a second and say you are absolutely the best in every category and uh keep it up thank you [Applause] like I said 7 15 you'll get started oh good right um so uh that was a great part of the meeting uh always May is always fun um June will actually be equally as fun if not more so in fact in June we'll be meeting over in the building because this room won't be large enough so we'll be over in the new PWC multi-purpose rooms because as much as we've celebrated some state championships we have many more to celebrate uh in June so we'll give you directions on that there could be more um so we'll transition into our uh presentation tonight from uh members from our cset and applied arts division in just a little bit of um context um and I know we'll talk more um but our SEL presentations are something we've been doing for about five or six years now um not that we're ignoring those conversations about uh academics and student achievement we have a report each fall that we present to the board but the SEL conversations are really focused on how are we supporting students in their Journey over their four years knowing how academically rigorous Stevenson can be how stressful it can be for many of our students how do we support them through that process so for the last I'd say five or six years Troy we've been having uh SEL presentations to the board from each of our divisions and I have to say that over the years they've just gotten better and better as we've dug deeper into this work and tried to support our students along the way so we are excited to hear from you all tonight but I will turn it over to our director of c-set and applied Arts to introduce the team um hi I'm Jackie king um and I'm really it's kind of Bittersweet to introduce the business Education team which I would normally be presenting with this is my first time not being with them um but I'm really these are four of our seven business uh teachers at Stevenson and they are going to be presenting about one of the classes that we think is vitally important um and really can set students up for Success both in high school and Beyond um and I am nothing but extremely proud to say that I've been a part of this team and you're gonna hear about the really great work that they're doing today so I'm gonna let them introduce themselves so because they have some cute photos yeah uh well thank you guys all of you for allowing us to be here and then just kind of share our journey over the past handful of years as we've tried to integrate the social emotional learning into our business education curriculum so um I'm Ryan Carlson we'll formally talk through everybody here in just a minute or two uh but we're going to kind of highlight our personal finance team is as Jackie mentioned and the work that we've been doing through uh again over those past five years as we've Dove deeper into this whole SEL journey and foreign everybody on our team teaches at least one section of it throughout the year so we have seven teachers that teach this course to a as you'll learn in just a little bit a lot of our students so it's a really great course and again we're going to talk about that connection we're going to dive into the data a little bit to talk about how SEL aligns itself really well with personal finance and vice versa we'll hear from some of our students on the testimonials that have just recently this past semester taken the course and then we'll kind of talk about next steps to around things out so all right so here we go so with graduation right around the corner next week for our seniors we thought it was very appropriate to puttle back into the archives and share High School graduation many many years ago so without any further Ado um my name is Jason Ford it's my 10th year here at Stevenson I teach obviously personal finance I teach our accounting classes as well I'm involved in varsity football and our business Professionals of America I'm Beth berlowski this is my fifth year teaching at Stevenson um and I teach accounting with Jason personal finance with the entire team entrepreneurship and also entrepreneurial tactics I sponsor business Professionals of America and also future Business Leaders of America and again I'm Ryan Carlson I teach personal finance I teach her into a business class as well as our investment management class I'm another teacher Business Center of America sponsor and I also sponsor these stagecrafters Club so if anybody's seen any musicals over the past six years our crew has been a big part in and putting making those scenes come to life so I just before you move on I just want to say that I don't think it's fair at all that you all look the same and I'm a terrible compared to when they first shows Once just took that yesterday that's not fair the graduation outfits haven't changed either because of them are from graduates and so like the cap and gowns haven't changed much either three of you are from graduates yep yeah is that possible space out a little bit and it's the same grade school too I think I'm the only one who actually had to take a picture of a picture and just give you my age it's literally a picture of like digital pictures of me and a graduate you know yeah um I teach our marketing and personal finance courses here at Stevenson I am also a future Business Leaders of America sponsor and I also am an assistant coach for varsity girls soccer program yes and there are 330 members in FBLA so that's why there's three of us as well so um to kind of bring us to why we're here tonight um I could throw out statistics like 44 of Americans can't pay a emergency bill of over 400 I can say that over half of Americans actively every month over month carry credit card debt I can talk about how a third of Americans have zero safer retirement and how 56 percent of them have less than ten thousand dollars saved for retirement so we we're kicking around these statistics thinking about the impact that it has and so many studies out there show that Financial well-being is directly correlated to emotional Wellness the pricewaterhousecooper said that is the biggest Factor when it comes to their employees well-being is it tackles it it hurts their emotional uh health and you can see everything on that list is vitally important to all of our physical and mental well-being so it was a great topic and we thought a course that we could truly align with that was personal finance so another graph that we have up here is the percentage of student people who live paycheck the paycheck it's not just people who make less than fifty thousand dollars a year who fall into this cycle it's every wage earner and it's a high percentage of every wage earners so in align with that it kind of brings us to this cycle that we have here at the bottom of financial difficulty creating emotional well-being or unrest and that emotional unrest it helps us prevent us from digging ourselves out of that Financial uh hold that we're in and that cycle is continues and continues and continues so we thought personal finance was a really good course to highlight and focus on how we can hopefully educate the next group of uh graduating seniors and juniors to help them at least build that foundational knowledge before they leave so how we do that is not click that button I don't know what you're dead you can't cancel I it won't let me he's in control officially broken the meeting you have that thought sorry let me do it well I can talk through here a little bit about personal finance so our personal finance course we have three skills that we focus on and the first skill is decision making we talk about building and starting off with financial goals and effectively evaluating options that align with those goals explaining how to implement the chosen decision we make and then our second standard or our second skill excuse me is communication once we've figured out what that decision is how do we go in and how do we actually communicate that decision to the appropriate audience are we talking to a board of education are we talking to our parents are we talking to our grandparents our counselors and what does that look like and then the last skill that we focus on is our business professionalism and everybody on our team firmly believes that building 21st century soft skills are crucial to not just be successful in personal finance but to be successful in any class and Way Beyond the walls of Stevenson so those are the three things that we focus on the three skills that we focus on in personal finance and we integrate those all throughout are curriculum and units right I'm going to give you an opportunity to stall I don't know what Dr Frank's number is right here computer um could you just share with the board what you mean by 21st century soft skills because you you blew through that pretty quickly absolutely so we teach our students every single day The Importance of Being able to effectively communicate be able to collaborate sure to be able to troubleshoot problem solve have conversations with people be on time to things not be distracted by technology all of those things we incorporate into a set of skills okay we have on every poster and every one of our classes we truly firmly believe that those are going to help us be successful and honestly I I don't have any of the formal statistics in front of me but you can say these Fortune 500 companies of course they're wanting us to be able to um read write and count right that's obvious of course but more now than ever they're also looking for you to be able to communicate collaborate troubleshoot that's how we built these skills or this skills specifically was the fact that I'm using on the importance of students with those 21st century skills are so while they're working on that I can say so my daughter's in college she's a entrepreneurship major and almost the entirety of her program has been exactly what you're describing you know they focus so little these days on some of the you know tactical elements because they're going to train you on whatever job you get right like the industries change so much so quickly that they want to make sure you can adapt you can you know troubleshoot as you said it's fascinating they can teach you to code or account or exactly debit credit but they can't teach you to be able to work as a team right some of those skills so yeah that's where the skills that we utilized um really came from so here they are yeah you did a great job so those three skills honestly we integrate in all of these topics and I could talk to you for three weeks about credit and a lot of people are get that excited about it it's truly so important when it relates to every single one of these topics so we intertwine credit throughout all these units our housing unit we go in and we based on your needs wants goals and values we find them a property and they can buy a house we walk them through that process but most kids aren't going to buy a house right out of college or right out of high school they're going through probably rent so we talked through that process and then we compare the pros and cons of each we then get into Banking and investing and focus on remember that those that cycle right so we focus on here's what an emergency fund is here's why it's important and here's why if you have a few bucks set aside in the events of an emergency all of a sudden everything doesn't become an emergency right so realizing that in small financial literacy like that talking about the the compounding effect of having credit card debt and making minimum payments each month those types of skills are so important and seeing kids having them on paper and seeing kids say this is what it would cost me to pay just a thousand dollar credit card bill if I only make my payments it's eye-opening for them which hopefully translates to more sound financial decisions later on in the future investing Building Wealth I have support for investing but also just it's so important and so crucial to building that Foundation as well um and whether it's saving for retirement or investing we do a simulation with that as well if we get into Transportation entertainment wellness and during those units we talk about the importance of creating a work school life balance how you have to be able to take that time to step away to decompress to step away from whatever that task or objective is whether it's my full-time job or my full-time being a full-time student and realizing the importance of being able to step take that break recharge and then get back after those tasks and then lastly we wrap things up with honestly it's amazing how many students say they enjoy learning about taxes like learning about the basics of how we pay and why we pay them and where they go so it's important for that as well and then wrapping that all into it [Laughter] I've got it sorry um I'm gonna stop talking here right after this slide because tonight so this is just a drop of disappearing what are oh I'm not it's not of what our overall Stevenson population looks like what the population looks like inside a personal finance class and there's a pretty strong correlation so the sample size of Stevenson High School is a very close correlation to the same facade of official Finance platforms you can see that break down there of our demographics so without further adoles [Laughter] you need to take the canva class I said I need a new computer so now that you know a lot about the course and you'll have a chance to learn more um we're going to go ahead and show you the connection to sel um over our years um the past eight years specifically the class has grown in enrollment um almost four to five times what it was in 2016.

The Motto was 905 pencils in hand time on learning this changed from playing outside to waiting inside was not the decision of teachers but that of superintendent Riley in fact Educators were upset by this change although their Duty schedule remained the same on a rotating basis they were upset because they knew fresh air exercise and socializing is good for kids unfortunately at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year superintendent Gifford further restricted the socialization of Dartmouth Elementary students students who went to the building at 8 45 are not interacting with their body of peers but going directly to class where they may be the only student for several minutes prior to being joined by other classmates according to the American Academy of Pediatrics their policy on the role of unstructured play in school includes four critical benefits greater levels of physical activity and fitness improved attentiveness in class improved cognition and learning and practice of peer-to-peer social emotional skills the latter often overlooked is cited by Child Development experts as a fundamental skill set laying the basis for social success later in life in Dartmouth we are in the bottom in terms of per-pupil expenditure in the state allowing students that very valuable time in the morning would come at no cost to the district we urged the school committee to reconsider this decision thank you foreign thank you very much so uh I'm actually going to skip approval of minutes um actually I'm sorry the recognition where um one of the students who's being recognized is not going to be timely so I'm going to push this down and what I would like to propose is that we hear from Phoenix if you know an update and then move into do you want to do the minutes quickly okay all right we'll do the minutes and then I'll ask you for your update if that's okay so I will entertain a motion for the um regular and Joint meeting for the April 24th so moved second okay we have a motion any discussion all in favor aye and so now I will entertain a motion for the executive session minutes of that same meeting of April 24th you want to do May 2nd and adding the executive session minutes for May 2nd as well so move Madam chair with the stipulation to be held until the matter for which they were intended is complete thank you any discussion all in favor bye thank you for that and so Phoenix thank you for being here and you can update us on what's going on at the high school sure good afternoon evening at this point um so the school year is coming to a close for seniors which you know I like personally uh this is probably my second or last meeting I'll aim to still come to the June 4th meeting and provide any update I can at the last meeting I said I'd be trying to put out a survey to students and so what I tried to do is I tried to wait until the agenda released and that did not leave nearly enough time so I wasn't able to get that out at all but honestly if I did I imagined it'd be about three responses wouldn't be very helpful so I think instead when I'm going to try uh is putting out a just a constant common box as like in the form of a Google form which should hopefully populate with you know meaningful comments uh that I can voice to the school committee or you know the student advisory Council as a whole by the next meeting but I'm not sure if there will be enough proactive students I I think that'll be something we're going to find out I think that it'd still be interesting data to report back is that we're not getting very many responses it's you know not as helpful as that hope but it's still something so we'll see how that goes thank you no worries anyone have any no thank you so much I just have one question did you get the the materials for this meeting before the meeting I did get the materials before the meeting I just want to make sure thank you I'm trying to put it out an hour ago don't we thank you thank you great and so um next I would um start with our presentation Spotlight on kids the Potter School well that's fine with me we're gonna go with the Quinn School so we'll welcome Mr granfield Miss Thomas Mrs yermolovic to the podium with some special guests tonight foreign good evening can you hear me with this yes good evening thank you very much for having us tonight Quinn so tonight we're very excited we have four of our fifth grade peer leaders here that will actually be facilitating our entire presentation um a little background we had a PowerPoint that we were going to do first which was talking about our new mascot that we have this year at the Quinn school that we were talking about with previous couple of years to our school Improvement plan um these students on their own wanted to present that and on top of that actually made a second PowerPoint on their own that they'll also be presenting tonight as well too so other than introducing Mrs Thomas Mrs euromillovich and myself I'm going to turn it right over to our students my name is Olivia Sorensen my name is Emma Delgado my name is Tristan Michael Mears my name is Dustin Cabral how it started and the spring students voted on a mascot the four choices were Queen captains Queen Stars Quinn rockets and Quinn Lions Lions won with other 300 votes then we voted on a name Quinn Lionel Rory Leo and the winning name was Leo and now to honor our mascot we have coins or lion loot so if uh an adult sees a kid doing something good they were they will receive the lion loot if you're in grades three to fifth then you will put it in a pocket chart but if you're in kindergarten to second grade put it in a balls and um obviously we won't let we won't just make you do good work without having a reward so the class that has the most coins would get a special reward that's right food the top three students in all classes in how many coins that each student have collected or or if they if the teachers recognize that they were good and any of our four character traits response responsible organized accepting and respectful they will earn one of the a brag tag and a certificate of excellence in the topic for that trimester I pledge today to do my best and reading math and all the rest I promise to obey the rules in my class and in our school I'll respect myself and others too I'll I'll expect the best in all I do I'm here to learn all I can to try my best and be all I am my destiny all I am [Applause] so the students are going to explain in their own words with their own presentation what Roar means to them we just need one minute just to get their presentation ready they created this all by themselves [Applause] this is why being responsible can help you safe and help you learn oh wait wait that's what that's how being responsible helps well oh my being responsible helps keep you safe and help you learn I thought that was the title because the top part was cut off I don't know why oh wait no I still have another sign this is how to be responsible you shouldn't be late you should be direct when moving from class to class you should walk together you should wash your hands you should not eat within your mouth open you should use equipment properly you shouldn't stand on the bus you should be and you should be kind and you should not lie this is how to be organized one clean out your locker two have a place for everything like your books folders homework assignments and your Chromebook three go through everything to see if there's anything that you don't really need for every minute spend organizing and hours earned Benjamin Franklin how to stay organized because once you start it can't stop write it down on a piece of paper to remind yourself two put sticky notes to where things go three don't take so much stuff out at one time four do at least one cleanup each week or two and my final thing for organized is how being organized can help one there won't be as much of a mess for you or the custodians to clean up two it will be much more easier to get your stuff three you'll be able to get your items faster for you won't lose things so often slash so quickly and five if you have a clean and organized area then you'll have more me time how be how being accepting helps how to be accepting when you are at recess you include others to play with you compromise when other people don't agree when changes happen even though you might not like them you have to accept them how being accepting helps it helps you to be a nice person it helps make you more empathetic it helps it helps you understand kids differences the only way to have a friend is to be one Ralph Waldo Emerson foreign [Applause] how to be respectful say please and thank you walk on a line with your hands by your side close your lockers quietly be polite and wait your turn take care of school property and listen to your teacher and peers why is it important to be respectful it is important to be respectful because respect means that you accept somebody for who they are even when they are different from you or you don't agree with them respect in your relationships builds feelings of trust safety and well-being thank you and the students each student has a brag tag for each of you that has our Roar on it two people give them out to who doesn't get one so everyone gets one gets one yeah guests from Potter Street [Applause] good evening and on behalf of all the Potter students we thank you for the opportunity to talk to you all tonight so this is my third year as principal presenting Potter's Spotlight on kids now due to covid-19 for the last two years we have been unable to bring students to this presentation well tonight is different and I could not be happier this evening you're going to hear from six amazing grade five students who are going to tell you why Potter School is special to them a recurring theme that you will hear from these children is not necessarily about the academic learning that has occurred during these years of Potter although they will mention how prepared they are for their future endeavors you'll hear about the importance of relationships I have been with the Dartmouth Public Schools as a teacher and administrator for 33 years so I feel well versed in knowing what makes our school system special the legacy of the Dartmouth schools is about how staff invest in kids in a most meaningful way that leaves a positive impression on those youngsters for years to come and that Legacy is alive and well today I see it every morning when I see kids coming off the bus and heading to their classrooms whether it's the music teacher in the hall brightening their day with Happy Tunes while he's playing his guitar or it's a beloved educator who connects with a child to assist them with a division challenge before the official start of the day at 905.
