so this year as I stand stand before you making my final graduation speech I think we may share some of the same feelings over the past weeks I've experienced a host of emotions I've been excited I've been anxious I've been eager I've been nervous and I I'll say we have been exhausted and ready to turn off the alarm clock and sweep in maybe you've experienced one or two of these same feelings but when I'm not thinking about how great it will feel to sleep in I find myself doing a lot of reflecting reflecting on the past year and on the past 33 years graduation day is certainly a day of Celebration but I also think it's a natural day of reflection for all of us including imagine your parents and grandparents possibly sitting in the audience when I reflect on the past 33 years working in education I realize in that time I've learned a lot and I've experienced a lot and I've been impacted by thousands of people you too in your 13 years of school have learned a lot experienced a lot and been impacted and probably impacted a lot of other people our experiences could fill books while reflecting on all these experience I find myself most thinking or reflecting on the word gratitude and making sure those who have helped me know how thankful I am for their belief in me their trust their support and their encouragement I also find myself thinking about what is most important in our lives throughout my life and career I've been fortunate to be around some very very special people that have helped me in so many ways but often I was so wrapped up in the moment or consumed with how busy I was or thinking about what was coming next I didn't take time to acknowledge these impactful people and simply say thank you if I could go back I would say thank you more often specifically I would say thank you to one person that I never thinked her name is Miss Flory Miss Flory was one of my High School Math teachers she not only made math interesting and fun she made me feel confident in my mathematical knowledge and abilities and believe me at that time my mathematical knowledge and abilities were extremely average at best she was passionate about math but delivered her instruction with compassion and care for students she taught me that math was important the math wasn't the most important little did she or I know at the time that I would go on to pursue math as an undergraduate and finish with a degree in mathematics so today I say thank you to miss Flory Miss Flory is one person I wish I had thanked years ago I have so many more people to thank for their impact on me but I will spare you you get the idea take time before 40 years pass to show gratitude to the special people in your lives so today I encourage you to encourage you to move forward with gratitude thank all those who support you encourage you and lift you up not only will make them feel great but it will also make you feel great research shows gratitude has several benefits living with gratitude improves your overall health grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and Report feeling healthier grateful people sleep better and feel more rested and maybe most importantly those who spread thanks and share gratitude report lower levels of stress higher levels of self-esteem and make and keep friends easier it's hard to argue with these benefits cultivating gratitude or what we might call developing an attitude of gratitude is one of the most overlooked Tools in our toolbox the simple act sometimes of saying thank you is mutually beneficial and will lead you to a happier and more successful life my Reflections in the past week also reminded me to keep the most important things in life at the Forefront and not let the little things dominate time or treasure so I will close with a short story that's adapted from a college classroom that best summarizes this concept so imagine this a teacher standing in front of her classroom a bunch of things in front of her she silently picks up a very large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeds to fill it with golf balls she then asked the students in the classroom if the jar was full they agreed that it was the teacher then picked up a box of small Pebbles and poured them into the same jar she shook the jar lightly the Pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls she then asked the students again if the jar was full students agreed that it was the teacher next pick up a box of sand and poured the sand into the jar gave it a gentle Shake the sand filled up the remaining voids she asked once more if the jar was full students once again responded this time with a little more Vigor and frustration yes the jar is full now said the teacher I want you to imagine that this jar represents your life the golf balls are the most important things your family your faith your health your friends your passions and if everything else was lost and only the golf balls remained your life would still be full the Pebbles are the other things that matter like School your home your job or your career and the sand is everything else the very small stuff now think about what would happen if you filled the jar with sand first there would be no room for the Pebbles or the golf balls the same goes for life if you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are most important pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness spend time with your siblings your parents your faith visit with friends take your grandparents out to dinner play another 18.

the story of our high school experience is a story of many chapters many moments of Triumph and many moments of defeat each and every one of us have connected to this school and community in a unique and impactful way and yet today we must say goodbye today as we turn the tassels on our caps we turn the final page of the novel of our time at this school after 12 years we will Begin Again and although our Journeys may look different from here on out we will always share this time at this school Marcus Aurelius said the quality of your thoughts determines the quality of your life wherever you may go whatever trials you may face or hardships you encounter happiness and Beauty are found not in accomplishment but in mindset life can be beautiful but only if you invite the beauty today that may seem easy after all you're surrounded by family and friends beauty is easy to realize however some days it may be more difficult to see through the clouds of loss and uncertainty I am sad to say to say that as we look back today I have regrets on not appreciating the beauty of how that high school has offered I regret not fully appreciating the beauty of the Great Moments lunches with your friends prom and late night talks but I will also regret not appreciating the beauty in less desirable moments I will miss the miserable assignments teenage heartbreaks and maybe maybe one day I'll miss the subtle beauty of Miss o'hare's stats class of 2023 I urge you now and forever to keep looking keep looking beauty is everywhere realize it today we move our tassel from right to left acknowledging that while we will always be a part of DCC our role has changed today we are graduates please join me now and forever in moving your tassel please stand congratulations graduates to the reports and if any reports or time sensitive that they can be given okay yeah I was can we Kristen can we like do a public can we like improvise a meeting and do like one public comment and then the letters to the renters commission just so we make sure we don't miss anything that's timely for us to know that's fine I think it's good to open public comment just in case anyone's watching and wants to call in um so you can do a public comment at the beginning and at the end of the agenda um as you typically would so Zechariah I know thinking about actually our presentation it would be nice to have that discussion with new people so I agree I think I think I'd vote to wait on that but if there's anything pressing in the communications I don't want to um bypass that so I'm just going to look at the communications now um the only I think there was a communication that could be considered a bit time sensitive the communication regarding Courthouse Square um does everyone else agree that that may be time sensitive okay um and okay so I'll just put the question out there uh first of all I would like to say that I agree with just waiting to our next meeting but if we can discuss or have a public comment and discuss uh that one piece of business I think the other two uh ones you know regarding the carbon monoxide uh requirement um I think that'd be might be good to have a to discuss at our next meeting and the DDA document might be good to discuss their next meeting as well so is everyone okay or how do you all feel rather about just having public comment and just discussing the one communication regarding Courthouse Square before we adjourn and then we'll pick up at our next meeting I think that's a good plan okay all right so I suppose that's what we'll do uh should we have public comment first sure okay um Kristen would you like to leave that no um economic can be made by spend eight five three five two four seven or eight eight eight seven eight eight zero zero nine nine and enter meeting ID 935-8080-1941 or with the zoom link by joining the meeting at a2gov.org renters commission meeting you can press star 9 to raise your hand if you're calling in and you'll be called on to speak or you can use the raise hand feature if you join the zoom link the only attendee is not a panelist right now is John Reiser and somehow he was both a panelist and an attendee at the same time but now he's gone I'm sure he has something he wants to share with us all right it looks like there's no um no attendees sorry folks I'm having some laptop issues so I went in on my phone no worries okay so then we can move on to communication number three on our agenda Courthouse Square screen request email dot PDF you can throw it up on the screen and we can take a moment to read through it if you haven't already and Jordan since you are mentioned in this maybe you would like to walk us through the situation yeah yeah good question I mean I think um the focus here is that none of the people in this building um to my knowledge ever have ever had a screen in their window um the this causes all sorts of issues with um pests some people have even had bats like all sorts of things are coming in these windows that are open um or they don't open them and are at risk for overheating because a lot of these folks are medically fragile and older folks um so part of part of the um touch base with uh rental housing was about screens and reinforcing what the code is that as of May 1 the screens need to be in um and so I think the tenants are looking to us for um supporting that so I think I think the next steps here would just be um checking in with rental housing um to my understanding to see if they have because I'm not seeing that this includes them on it um so uh I yeah so I don't know I don't have any more updated information um Beyond this though I do know um that Miss Bergie is no longer working there as of Monday um but I would believe that any new building manager would get that same email because it's just a generic email versus a personalized one so I think we could um follow up with this individual ask ensure that there still are not screens see if they've contacted rental housing and if not refer them um to that direction would be what I would think would be our next best steps Nick just a process question I see it's copied to Ann Arbor's Runners commission renters commission at a2gov.org who does that go to um that goes to me and another sales person okay because I got Jordan's update which was excellent about um Courthouse Square but I haven't seen this until the agenda I was just curious about the email is there a way for people to email the Commissioners directly that's publicly you know on the website or anything no okay Travis um in part to next question the no but if you my understanding Kristen you might yell at me if I say this and my understanding is that if any Commissioners were wanted a city email address no is that a no I see maybe a head shaking I can certainly ask but I'm not aware as an option for generally I know city council has email addresses there may be another body um I know a couple of them do but maybe it's on a Case by case rather than a requested basis yeah I think I think that's the case um and then on this just you know Jordan you mentioned um maybe we can refer them over to rental housing I wonder if it's a matter of us being able to send this over to the appropriate person and letting them know that we've done that um for them um I don't know John is this something that we would send over to Chris McFarland or do you know any shows who I've been talking with already on this particular I mean so she's already aware of this I think um but we could copy Chris on it too or if people think that's a good yeah yeah leash is gonna assign it to Chris to go to for assignment to one of his rental housing inspectors likely there's also a form on the uh City built you know website building housing you can you can make complaints on that and that goes to uh either Janet or Chris for distribution to one of the the housing people yeah and so just to clarify uh you've talked to Alicia about the situation on Courthouse Square but not about this particular issue actually I I I tried to make sure that we were able to equip the tenants with the best knowledge of what the policies were um and also asked a secondary question at the tenants request about um the building is claiming that they're they're grandfathered in there's some sort of exemption um but at least when I talked to rental housing they didn't seem to think that that was a possibility looking yeah I mean so I think I think the next step is yeah just to say you know that we're we're submitting this and we've encouraged the tenants to reach out to you I mean because it I guess my thought like yes we can forward it but there also might be and somebody can correct me if they know there also might be the need for the tenant to submit formally for a process type of thing um so confirming that the screens are I mean I don't know what was the date on this email I just closed it can you please still have it May 10th May 10th okay so yeah I mean that was basically what we had said you know give give a little bit of time after May 1st though ideally they should be in that day and then you know kind of reach out and she she had talked to them verbally from my understanding a few times before this email so um them meaning uh the housing people at courthouse so yeah I think it's fine for us to send it over but also to send this particular um renter the link to the um this is how you submit a formal complaint with the city if that's the next step that you would like to do and we've also alerted them that makes sense so I wonder if we could forward this to Alicia and ask Alicia what the next steps for the tenant would be and once we get that information either if Lisha wants to send that to the tenant or if we're just going to tell that give the explanation to the tenant encourage them to go through the whatever Channel it is sounds like it's this form so um Kristen should one of us do that or would you prefer to do that I'm sorry Amita I um um okay thank you very much Kristen and maybe we could talk about that just check back in on maybe at a future meeting in our next meeting make sure that Alicia has given an answer okay anything else on the on this email Bob uh just a question on this whole grandfathering issue um I'm unaware of any grandfathering requirements like that but it would be interesting to know if uh if any such things exist yeah I think that's the question right like is is there a design that would prohibit screen Insertion I can imagine that potentially there is um and you know I think that's up to rental housing to confirm to us um but it that seemed to be very far-fetched I guess in my phone or my I guess email conversations with her so yeah I don't I don't know you're right I mean it's possible that there is an exemption for them based on the design of the window or something um but that needs to be then evaluated by the inspectors I think and gotten back to the tenants and us um that confirmation if that's the case I agree anything else any thoughts or questions about this okay well thank you for your work Jordan um and Jamie although she's not here and uh reaching out to the courthouse Square residence and thank you Travis I know that councilmember um Ackerman was also there at that Outreach event I think I was really happy to see that that came together very nicely I think we should have more of those events so we'll have to discuss that at Future meetings you know how to reach out to more of these buildings how to identify that the complexes where there's a lot of problems and how do we reach out to them and where does our job start and stop but I think it that sounds like we have nothing else to discuss on this matter and that was the only thing on our agenda for today okay well with that I suppose we can move to adjournment but I would like to First say that I'm really going to miss you Nick on the commission I'm gonna miss everybody who's leaving uh and I'm really looking forward to meeting the new commissioners thank you and and again I do want to express my appreciation that council member rodina for nominating me to Mayor Taylor for uh supporting that and to all of you um Commissioners Zechariah your leadership has been terrific Jordan and Robert you guys have been really great contributing members the committee and the special and Gail you and I are working together we're going to continue to work together on things um and Kristen and John um just two great examples of terrific staff members at the city um uh supporting our work and just being so helpful to us and so engaged and I just want to thank everybody and wish you all luck and I'm sure I'll see you along the trail somewhere thank you Nick good luck have a good night everybody good night so I suppose with that we can adjourn I don't think we need to take a vote on that right Kristen right right because there's no foreign projects you want to work on I'm always happy to help um you know to attend a smaller group meeting or just call and talk on the phone you have my number you got it okay bye everyone have a great night thank you bye

we are live good afternoon everyone um welcome to the special public board of directors meeting for asdb I'd like to call the meeting to order at 4 pm and I will proceed with agenda item number one um the roll call um Linda Bove present Brittany Buchanan I'm present Colette Chapman I see her Colette you are on mute yeah yeah I'm present sorry about that that's okay thank you Lynn Davison Mike Gordon president Catherine sianko present and myself Sue okay can I fall we do have Quorum so we will move on to um action item 2.01 um approval of use of State trust lands um superintendent reichmann um hello everyone I'm going to turn it over to our speakers for the evening from the Arizona State Trust uh the Arizona State trust lands department has joined us this evening to give a presentation and a further explanation to the board answering some of the questions that came up at the last meeting so that you can make a more informed decision foreign so State trust Representatives if you'd like to take it away you're muted we can't hear you thank you good afternoon and thank you for the invitation to present to the board my name is Reuben O'Hara o j e d a i Am the rights of Way section manager for the state land Department I have with me in the conference room here at the department miles Stevens who is the Project Lead for the sun Zia transmission line project which will be presenting today to you for your approval so I wanted to start by Elise first you know giving you some background on the project itself so Sun Zia transmission line LLC is a Consortium of entities that are developing and will be constructing a 550 Mile High Voltage direct current hdvc line that initiates from a solar project in New Mexico and it comes through the southern part into Arizona down in Cochise County through to now Central Station about uh 290 miles or so in Arizona uh it's a the largest renewable energy project in the United States history we've been working with the team since about 2000 on this project this project is also being run or at least the land ownership of the uh is the this is called stakeholders are the Bureau of Land Management in New Mexico and Arizona they're private land owners both in New Mexico and in Arizona and also private land here in Arizona as well as state trustland in both States so this is a 3 000 megawatt or three gigawatt transmission line that will be producing renewable energy from a wind farm in New Mexico the project is privately developed and will be funded by pattern energy who's also developing a project near the Eastern Terminus of the sanzia transmission in New Mexico um the state trust land or the state land Department you know as mentioned has gone through and were and participated in the uh NEPA process uh with the BLM through the environmental impact statement so we were cooperating agencies on that project the sun Zia did receive their record of decision last year to proceed with the project we worked diligently to cite this line we addressed all the constraints that were encountered the line has several purposes to it which would include Service Roads it would also have some you know regeneration sites miles is there anything else those are the big ones yeah so let me that's part of the I guess that's the background of the project and I will pause there to see if there's any questions in regards to the project as a whole before I get into you know the portion and the rental determination from the land Department foreign have questions they would like to ask at this time none for me okay I'll continue on so the land department has a for this project is a two-tiered level approval the first level of approval is the state land commissioner which her responsibility is to approve all leases or transactions in excess of 10 years this right away is a 50-year term right-of-way and will also requires the board the land board the board of land appeals approval as well the both approvals have commenced the latest was the board of appeals which transpired on I believe it was made of so thanks for crippling May the 11th is when the board approved this application so part of our responsibility to the school for the deaf and blind is to request an approval from the board your board to proceed with issuance of this right-of-way at your previous board there were some questions that were raised that we took the opportunity to answer and provide to the board and I'll kind of go through those questions so the first question that was raised by the board is how is the trust amounts determined so a couple factors here one the the the amount is determined by a an appraisal evaluation of the land itself okay so there's a um as will we explain how you know the school from for the deaf and blind beneficiary plays a role in the trust so the trust was you know established when we became statehood in the federal government um you know identified certain Parcels throughout the state for you know income to be generated to the beneficiaries um the school for the deaf and blind is a beneficiary of the trust and there are specific Parcels or sections throughout the state that have been have been identified as the um the beneficiary the school for different blind being dependent fishery of those Parcels we lease sell or permit use of you know instruments that Traverse across that parcel that income derived from that use goes to the beneficiary goes to the school for the deaf and blind in the packet we provided a list of the sections that the transmission line Traverse through so out of the total acreages of the project which is approximately 3885 Acres approximately 25 acres plus or minus was established to be the beneficiary of the school for them online so the income that derives from those Parcels based on the land value using a formula to establish the rental cost is really how that rental is established or the income is established for the school for the different blind I'm going to pause there for a moment and see if there's any questions related to the income generated from this transmission line I think we're good I think you can continue okay so land values that were established throughout the person I see Colette Colette did you have a question uh no I do not okay thank you I saw you unmute and my mute and unmute button is um not working properly so you just have to give me a minute thank you okay I'll go ahead and continue so how does the how do we calculate the dollar amount that's awarded to the school for the deaf and blind so in your packet in the exhibit e there's a worksheet that we utilize to calculate that rent and you know there's two purposes of the um on the worksheet one is the transmission line and one is a service road the difference between the two purposes is the Intensive use intensive use is we use that factor as you know a an indication of how intense is the land being utilized so if you think about it this way if this is a transmission line high voltage so the remainder of the use of that Lan is limited meaning there's not very much there's not that much additional use of the land that this transmission you know traverses across so because of that the Intensive use factor is very high in this case it's 98 uh intensive use which if we're to use a factor of one that's a hundred percent intensive use an example of 100 intensive use purpose would be like a public road a freeway a highway things of that sort where really that roadway is really the only use that could be you know or nor you know compatible uses with that public roadway so we full we pay or charge the full factor for that use the other use that is part of this transmission line project there are the service roads and we had established a 25 intensive use factor for the service roads and that being because the roads that are being used are you know not frequently used or used to maintain the line check for the stability so they're not intensely used like a public roadway for example so what we did for you in the package as well is we there's also a an exhibit that identifies or at least shows the sections that the school for the deaf and blind are the beneficiary of of all the all the sections throughout the project there were two different sections I'm sorry four different five different sections in different township ranges and of those sections there were to the two different uses totaling of 25.239 Acres so that 239 acres is one of the factors used in the calculation of the rent so our rights away are established by a formula as mentioned and the formula is noted also in the um in the exhibit it's really the land value times the amount of Acres times the Intensive use Factor times the what we call the the turn the uh the term Factor the date of palm as the right away issue for so this is a 50-year instrument with 25-year pay terms meaning every 25 years there's a re-evaluation of the land and the proponent gets billed additional you know period so of the 50 years there's we call two pay terms 225-year paid terms so the first pay is what we are coming to the board for today uh to request approval of and it's the the total for the project was four million nine hundred thousand nine hundred and thirty thousand five hundred and three dollars um I know that's one of the questions is you know why did the board why does the school for deaf and blind get such a small you know percentage of that and I want to make sure that you understand it's not attributed to a percentage it's attributed to the actual Parcels that this line traverses across which is very few in relationship to the acreage of the total project so 25 acres of over 3 800 acres is for from uh land reserved for the school for the deaf and blind so we take those calculations as shown in the worksheet and we calculated that out to be the total cost of 21 593 dollars so that's how that's that dollar amount is established and it's pretty consistent here at the land Department um I've been here this is my 21st year um every time we have an application that the school for the deaf and blind is the beneficiary we have to identify the income to be generated for the school for deaf and blind and we have to present that to your board as we've done on this application as well um so that kind of explains and answers uh question number two that was brought to the board is so I'll pause there for a moment and if there's anything else I can answer any follow-up questions foreign for a follow-up at this point okay I'll move on to question number three if the board denies the request what are the repercussions well the repercussions will be huge for the land department for the proponent and for you know the renewable energy project for the United States if this this application was was denied the proponent the sun Zia transmission would have to reroute the line to avoid you know School for the Deaf of mine parcels and go through the approval process again or possibly even go through the federal mepa process and in addition to that there wouldn't be any income generated so therefore there wouldn't be any um any Revenue you know distributed to the school for the Devon blind so it's pretty um you know it's it's a big project for us it's a big project for the proponent for the Renewal Energy so we're hoping the board really reconsiders their decision on this application so how much the next question uh unless there's questions for that I don't think there might or maybe there is a pause a moment for any questions on that I think you can just go ahead okay so the next question was um how much land do you have in the trust so the retrust reserved 83 672 Acres in the state of Arizona for the school for the deaf and black as a beneficiary so throughout the State of Arizona there are Parcels identified totaling at 83 plus thousand acres in the packet I also provided a you know an exhibit of our on site or website Parcel Viewer that does have a a layer that identifies all of the beneficiaries for the trust um for their primitive fund and in that Legend you'll see the school for deaf and blind and have identified on that exhibit you know Parcels that that deaf and blind are the beneficiary of this is just a small example of where the deaf and blind has land for the beneficiary in the state of Arizona this happens to be around the Picacho Peak area but there are Parcels throughout the state so again when we permit use of State trust that traverses across those parcels school for the deaf and blind would benefit from income generated from that use in addition attached in your packet is the actual approval that was presented to our commissioner and to the board of appeals and in that package as well is what we call trackbook descriptions so our credential section identifies you know all of the parcels by section in Township and that identifies how many acres of that use traverses across that section and in that package we might you know identify by highlighted in yellow the school for the deaf and line parcels and you'll see the acreages for each of those sections and if you were to total up all of those highlighted yellow uh sections that's where the 25 plus acres comes from any questions related to how much land school for the Devon blind has on state Trust I think the information you presented us was pretty clear pretty straightforward thank you superintendent so what agencies participate in the trust there aren't any other agencies with the trust it's just the land Department we used to have a few years back we used to have Forest as part of our agency but they have branched off and operate on their own um we manage about 10 million eight well now about 9.2 million acres in Arizona State we had about 10 million uh just for some information regarding their trust you know there's two separate you know buckets of or funds that we you know um we allocate revenue from the trust into so just to explain to every every you know every dollar that we earn from the use of State trust then a hundred percent of that money goes to the beneficiaries it gets distributed based on these Parcels most of them being common schools so our agency operates from um a budget established by the legislature so we don't use any income to operate the agency 100 of the income gets generated gets distributed to the beneficiaries and that income is uh distributed I'm sorry in two different ways there's a Permanent Fund that income gets uh distributed to and then there's an Expendable fund the difference between the two are the Primitive fund is a fund that we distribute funds for all of our sales all of our natural products uh things that we dispose of so those would be any for us and right away it would be Perpetual rights of way uh and would be commercial sales that are in fee and also from our minerals division it could be our mineral section could be you know sand and gravel it could be a native plant it could be other things that sort all of those that Revenue goes into the Permanent Fund which is managed by the state treasury and currently that fund has about 7.5 billion dollars in that fund and the fund distributes that income on a quarterly basis to the beneficiaries again based on this you know this distribution of beneficiaries the Expendable fund is the income generated from the trust for leases uh either short-term or long-term leases that aren't that permanently disposed of so meaning we might issue you know easements or rights across our land for a shorter term for rights of way we do them for 10 years 50 years we have some for 75 years that income for those shorter term non-permanent but go to the Expendable fund and that gets distributed on a monthly basis so I have a couple of some numbers that we generated for the school for the deaf and blind uh over the past three years and I'll share that with you I'm going to give you a ask you to hold for one second I just want to have it known on record that um Catherine senko needs to drop off but we still have forums so you can continue thank you so in the Expendable fun and year in the fiscal year 2020 our physical year ends June 30th so in 2020 thank you for the presentation I'm signing off now take care so the Expendable Fund in the year 2020 we generated 144 944 dollars in the Permanent Fund for 2020 we distributed 52 140 dollars in fiscal year 2021 we distributed 181 403 dollars to the school for Devin blind and in the Permanent Fund it was 5 692 dollars in physical year 2022 and give me a second here my screen went blank I'm sorry can you still hear me we can okay thank you my screen just went dark for a second so give me a second years so I'll finish up when physical year 2022 we distributed 338 227 to the school for deaf and blind and in the Primitive fund a distribution of 163 628 was uh distributed I'll pause there for a moment and see if you have any additional questions for me does anyone have any additional questions sometimes I think we're okay do you have anything else you want to share with us otherwise I would be open to further questions discussion or emotion I do not have anything further to present so thank you so much I appreciate it thank you so at this point if there are no other questions or discussion I would entertain emotion to see you Colette yeah I'll make a motion to approve the um contracts [Music] I have a motion do I have a second Glendale second trying to get my camera working all those in favor if you could come on camera and at least hands up or thumbs up I I I'm not on camera but I okay any opposed abstentions motion carries thank you very much gentlemen we really appreciate your time today yeah thank you thank you for the opportunity I mean much appreciated moving on to agenda item three um do I have a motion for adjournment this is Linda I moved to adjourn this meeting second this is Colette I will second the motion all those in favor say aye bye thank you all I appreciate your time today and for quickly coming together on this it was important and I'm glad we were able to get it done um thank you again and you guys have a great rest of your evening thank you thank

there's actually eight there and then to our vacancies we are looking for two bus drivers we are looking for an elementary special education teacher we are looking for two paraprofessionals I know the agenda said four but we moved some things around and we really just need two Elementary library Aid in the high school Ela so with those Administration recommends that the board approve the consent agenda as presented please any questions comments concerns right with that I'd entertain a motion to accept the person to accept the consent agenda as presented Tyson made a motion Adam second roll call please aye yes Mr Schumacher yes yes perfect unanimous all right we're going to our items for Action now I'm sorry with communication reports I'm getting ahead of myself yeah we have Miss Noble here and she is with I know you're with steeple you are but sitting next to you you are with stifles [Laughter] she's with stifle which is uh the bond brokerage not bad to council because that's Chapman Cutler the brand brokerage and so she's got a presentation and um we'll be here to answer any questions you may have thank you to some of you in the past but obviously some new faces around the table um I'm Ann Noble with stifle We Are The District's Bond underwriter and worked with you most recently in 2020 to refinance some bonds at a one percent interest rate which was pretty pretty amazing and now it looks really amazing we expect the same I know right I wish we could guarantee that but um so I just want to walk you through the district's current uh Bond scenario and show you what the what the future holds and just make you aware of some opportunities and the timelines related to that so that you can ponder with full facts um so we've got the same presentation on the screen numbers are very small I thought it'd be a lot easier to look at on paper or so um slide three are just the district's three outstanding sets of bonds these you're almost debt free um which is which is why I'm here to talk to you because it is your opportunity to consider whether there are additional projects that you want to take on um because you are about to have a window in your payment schedule for that so you have three sets of bonds outstanding that total about five and a half million and those will be paid off over the next two years which is really just one additional Levy cycle because the the levy in advance of the pain um so there's really no refinancing opportunities here these are very short-term bonds the interest rates are very low um and and just everything's working perfectly smoothly on ground seeing your balance okay slide four just shows you two different statutory calculations related to your debt the most important one is on the left and that is your overall statutory borrowing capacity we have another book or we're short a short one uh you guys thank you so much um so on the left we show just the history of the district's eav um your equalized assessed valuation and then below that your statutory debt limit calculation your debt limit is simply 13.8 percent of the district's eav uh minus your outstanding debt so 13.8 percent of your eav is 58.4 million dollars we subtract from that the outstanding approximately five and a half million leaves you with the remaining uh statutory debt limit of 52.9 million that number obviously changes every year as your assessed valuation grows and as you pay off bonds both of those things will affect that number but that's the current number then on the right is a different calculation related to borrowing for working cash purposes we don't need to spend a lot of time talking about there is obviously a more limited calculation related to that you have about 10 and a half million dollars of borrowing capacity for working cash and that just really comes down to if you choose to borrow again what's the purpose that you're borrowing for and then we can talk about the different types of bonds that are available and this is one of those options Slide Five shows you the district's outstanding Bonds in terms of your tax rate so you can see we've got this this row right here represents the levy that you've already extended these are the tax bills that are being paid and collected right now um so that totals about 3.4 million dollars from the three sets of bonds these are the principal plus interest payments whereas that slide I showed you on slide three was just the principal payments themselves and it showed you that interest rate this includes principal plus interest so combined about 3.4 million dollars and a tax rate of about 81 and a half cents related to your bonds the tax bills that you'll be setting um in December will reflect the last Levy for your outstanding bonds and the levy drops because this Bond particularly the series 2020 abouts truly because the interest rate was so attractive on those bonds we were able to shave off um almost two years of bond payments so now you have a pretty big drop in the tax rate so you go from 81 cents to about 50 cents um we assumed a one percent growth in your assessed valuation for next year which should be conservative based on what you've seen but that's what we have modeled in here for now so does that make sense to everybody any questions about anything so far so the the question is just do you want to let that drop in the tax rate happen or do you have needs because it obviously is easier to keep the tax rate constant than it is to let it fall and then cause it to increase in the future right so if you if you have needs and there are things that you're thinking about this is the opportunity to think about it because you have that drop coming so you're gonna drop about 32 cents here and then another 50 cents after that okay so what I ran for you on the next slide is if this is almost the extreme to one end and that would be if we just kept your tax rate flat at that 81.6 rate and and held it there for a 20-year term which tends to be the typical bond term when districts are borrowing because you're typically funding long-term projects um so if we did a 20-year mortgage for your next project and we held the tax rate flat and we did it before that drop-off happens what would it get you that's that's what this page is showing you and what this is showing you is we ran it at three different interest rates and sadly it's not one percent um it's four percent four and a quarter and four and a half and right now you should be in this four percent range um and the 81.6 cents this column of new this these are the new Bond payments right here okay these are your current Bond payments so these Bond payments totaled together and then basically present value back at a four percent interest rate Garners you about 49 and a half million dollars you could obviously slice this 100 ways I could run this for you so many ways you could do a 10-year payback instead of 20.

them achieve their goals I was not able to attend last board meeting so I'd also like to congratulate the retirees and wish them the best of luck in their next chapter of life it's funny how when you become more mature in life you don't recognize birthdays but you recognize yours closer to retirement it's hard to believe that we are in the end of the school year and I'm finishing up my first year as the Buddha president although avuda has faced challenges this year it has been a year of positive changes in growth and we were looking forward to supporting and helping our members next year we finished up this year with giving away books and pencils at the International Children's Day community cleanup day and we're almost finished with our members appreciation lunches I only have four more schools to visit and Amanda our vice president was able to cover the lunch yesterday at Sitting Bull for me it has been such a great it has been such a great experience taking Baja Taco and churros around to each School putting faces to names and engaging in great conversations those who know me know I love to talk and socialize the teachers have been very appreciated appreciative and excited about having food brought to them if you go to either Restaurant please thank them for what they're doing for our teachers Baja tacos goes in every morning early to be able to have it prepared and ready for whenever I go pick it up at the end of April I had the privilege of going with a CTA directors and staff of the 395 visiting schools and speaking with their teachers this was another great experience hearing their stories and struggles not only inspired me but also made me appreciate where I live and work even more I was able to help them with grants for supplies give them information about disaster relief and help them understand the disability insurance that is available to them and attend their who Awards who awards are awarded to individuals that have been that have made a difference in their local unions I do want to tell a quick story one of the districts that I visited had an avalanche this winter that separated their District the teachers on the side without this school had the students come to their houses and they taught them in their houses the teachers on the side of the school they they emailed them all the materials that they needed for their instruction the week that I was there they had their first regular week of school since November I was there at the end of April after the Avalanche their school was flooded with the water from the melting snow last weekend I also had the pleasure of honoring Leslie mcmenly our head negotiator and Amanda Wright my vice president with the who award at our high desert award dinner both have stepped up to help when needed and our great asset to a Buddha I would also like to thank our negotiating team in the district's negotiating team even though we haven't settled we are working hard at getting everything was voted in as their new secretary we had the pleasure of having Ted Alejandro our County Superintendent speak to us he went over the county the end of the year County highlights which included Cradle to Career road map website systems of support California Community School partnership program Avid student showcases and academic events mental health and behavioral support and budget updates he invited us to attend the Southern Regional student wellness conference in a visit to a model Community School in San Bernardino County Mr Hollow Alejandro alejandre is committed to working with the presidents on various issues to help support teachers one of the issues that was brought to discussion yesterday thank you for support is Extreme behaviors that teachers are experiencing throughout our County I would not being do I would not be doing my job if I did not stand here tonight and advocate for our teachers here in Apple Valley I want to First clarify by saying I'm not saying anything negative about the principles or the district as they are doing their job very well I'm simply bringing awareness and asking for help right before we began our meeting yesterday I received two phone calls from teachers and an email that had to do with this exact issue I received another phone call today on the same issue and I know I knew I had to speak on the topic tonight our teachers are experiencing these extreme behaviors and are afraid to be in their classrooms because they are not a trained or equipped to deal with the aggressive behaviors one teacher expressed that she has nightmares because of events that have taken place the teacher today was threatened by the student with physical harm and security had to protect her again it was dealt with and handled right away I'm only bringing this up because I feel now more than ever that we need to bring back our Safety Committee so that we can just have discussions around these topics and help teachers to feel safe in their classrooms these intents escalated behaviors are not going away here or within our County anytime soon and teachers are asking for help I know that together we can work to make our district the best place to work thank you for your time and have a wonderful summer break in solidarity Karen [Applause] superintendent comments I'm gonna wait until the end so that we can get to um thank you Christine Awards board comments I hope you do the same thing Rick no I'm just looking forward to see the awards all right Amanda achievements Amanda all right I'm gonna go fast I just wanted to say because it's about the students that I made it out to a couple of the Arts festivals and some of the stuff the kids are doing in the district it's top-notch um whether it was music or um there was singing out at Sycamore Rocks for their Arts Festival and then got to yakaloma for the ball game but um it's it's just the kids are doing amazing things and it was really great to see all the parents smiling you could do 70 cents instead of 81.6 um I mean you you can do this any way you want and I'm happy to look at any scenarios that are of interest to you it's fairly Pro rata if you said what could I get for 40 cents it's gonna be about half of what's up there okay so so you can think about it that way um but the key here is you do have an opportunity coming and you're you're you do have a deadline um which is the end of February 2024.

after each lunch wave a large amount of trash is always left on the tables leaving the lunch Aid and custodial staff to have to pick it up when it was our trash that we produced however us students have created and released a cafe Improvement video aiming to tackle this issue and create a call to action for a positive change the goal of this student-led message is to promote a greater respect for our Catherine Commons and for our lunch Aid and custodial staff they truly do so much for our school it really wouldn't function without them and they don't deserve to pick up the mess that us students produce so the students at CHS are taking action to respect our school and make it the best they can be and um that's all the announcements for tonight thank you Michael um always ending on a positive note we usually have great change stories for us any questions great report as usual Michael um do you know anything about I received an invitation anyway um to London alive at CHS I believe it's happening tomorrow morning right so yeah so the London alive is um is hosted by the British literature class and basically it's a day where the British literature class goes onto the library Courtyard and they do all sorts of things um like British related I'm not really sure like the intricacies of it but it's um they all they make it really fancy like they dress up they do um a lot of things like British themed so they really do a good job with it any other questions great Michael thank you for another wonderful report absolutely dismissed or you can hang around we have some great presentations tonight but um yeah I would recommend you hang around thank you Mr Gribble all right thank you okay um up next we have a presentation for National Merit scholar and so I'll ask Dr Gad to come to the podium thank you so much and good evening it is absolutely my pleasure to welcome and talk a little bit about one of our students sagarika shrivason she is here with her parents and her sister sachita there are certain students who stand out from the pack and sagarika is one such student she's down to earth she's genuine and kind she's really involved in our community and she leads our Mecca Rams robotics team among many other involvements but of note this evening is her outstanding scholarship her academic achievements are boundless and this evening it is my honor to speak on one zagarika has been selected as a winner of the National Merit 2500 scholarship this scholarship is underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and the corporation explained this upon receiving this honor she is now recognized among some of our nation's most academically talented students so we are so proud of you for all of your Stellar qualities and this honor really is just icing on the cake so we are so proud congratulations sagarika [Applause] no this doesn't happen every day yes thank you [Applause] foreign up next is that cave student leader award thank you Mr grippo but before I move on I just want to again congratulate Eureka that she's so impressive she's going to uh Georgia Tech on a scholarship for computer science uh to receive a full ride anywhere for anything is impressive but to go to Georgia Tech for an academic scholarship like that is really a testament to the incredible hard work and talent that you have dedicated over the last four years to be that successful so congratulations I'm really proud of you great job um I also have the opportunity to recognize another student uh here this evening each year the Connecticut Association of boards of Education shares an award program with local school students that recognizes the students not just for academic Pursuits but for what they mean to the school community now you've had the benefit of knowing our honoree this evening Michael De Joseph for the entire school year if it's not readily apparent to you why he deserves recognition you haven't been paying attention he's an incredible student not just from an academic perspective but from a character and Leadership perspective and that's what this Awards seeks to recognize and so I can't think of anybody more appropriate than Michael De Joseph to recognize with this award this evening congratulations Michael great work thank you great benefit s [Applause] you know I have to apologize I did not even realize that that award was for Michael I'm like oh no you can go it's fine no go ahead I'm like what yeah apologize for that it was worth sticking around yeah um okay I'm up next we have a presentation by uh antonazi Associates uh for Elementary School Elementary classroom expansion study then uh Mr Griffo thank you good evening everyone I'd just like to make some quick introductions of this particular agenda item the planning committee of the board Us in the fall had engaged a an RFP to find a firm to take a look at our options at Highland and Doolittle School in particular where we are concerned that between now and three years from now when the new schools are open that we will not have sufficient classroom space and so we wanted as a planning committee and as a board and administrative team try and do what a planning committee would do is plan for the future and so and to Nazi Associates who are here with us this Neve this evening engaged in a study and they're presenting they're finding the goal of this study was to look at our interior space and our exterior spaces and determine what the possible solutions are in the event that we do need additional classroom space between now and 2026.

uh given that reduction uh Mr maciano Miss Solano uh miss Robin and carrier PPS director and myself got together uh really evaluated each of the lines and tried to identify areas where specific lines where information had changed since January sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse additional information had been become available to us for instance you'll see as we walk through the lines that you know we now have retirements that we can factor into this budget we also as you are aware had the shift in our adult education programming so this budget reflects that adjustment as well ultimately it was a revamped or recommendations here are being made that will reduce the original approved budget by the Town Council reduction of 364 692 to have a balanced budget of 84 million 993 429 so I'm going to ask Mr maciano if you wouldn't mind to just kind of Hit the highlights walking through the lines and the adjustments and certainly there'll be plenty of opportunity for us to engage in question and answer conversation Etc uh Ben thank you Dr Solomon I will just start on page three very quickly so you could see at the bottom of page three the final approved budget from the council is the 84 million 993 so the adjusted increase over this year's budget is 4 million three twenty nine zero zero nine so our final approved budget is 5.37 okay so a little perspective there if we go back to page one I'll I'll walk you through and I I will explain that some of the adjustments that you see here are just to move salaries into the correct buckets with the adult education um shift effective July one so just starting at the top we have principles and assistant principles that one's increasing that line item is increasing seventy six thousand five fifty and there's a partial offset down about five lines below to the adult ed of minus 108 530.

thank you I need a motion to approve the agenda I'll move it second a second Maria all in favor aye all right all right we're going to move on to the recognition presentation and we're going to start off with a [Music] our main student Angelique and I like to say first of all these girls and boys that represented the schools we've improved so much in your stinking ability it's going to help you the rest of your life it really will the hardest the most intense phobia that most adults out there have is standing up in front of a large group of people and speaking your kids are already on first base all right this is great so the the Board of Trustees is going to come forward and for those of you that have participated in this in the past it's a long event for parents and for students but the board members that have to stand and Mr Bender has been gracious to be here um he's getting ready to have a knee replacement and told me that I could tell the crowd so we've got some some stools here so that if if they need to sit they can but they're here to congratulate the students as they go through um as Mr Bender said I'm going to start with Angelique and as they're transitioning I'm going to read a little bit about um a little information so I'm going to start with something about me and it'll tie back to exactly Angelique Ashley and Cheyenne education has been my only career I began in the 91-92 school year as a teacher who was first inspired to teach by the role model in my life Celia bentema my kindergarten teacher she always displayed encouragement as did my parents who wanted me to pursue whatever my passion was each and every success of a child is due to someone loving caring and supporting them so with that I would like to begin by thinking Mr and Mrs Guzman who are here in the front row Mrs Roddy who is also in the front row and Mr and Mrs Valentine if you knowing you're in the audience I'd like you to stand to be recognized please stand for us so that we can clap for you we applaud you for raising these amazing young women we are about to honor so we're going to start with hdpa and I'm so proud that Ishmael is coming after Angelique you've got some big cheese to fill but I know you're capable you were on my student advisory and you're going to just knock it out of the park she'll help you okay Angelique Daniel has been a student in the Apple Valley Unified School District since first grade she attended Rancho Verde Phoenix Academy and Granite Hills High School prior to moving to High Desert Premier Academy at the beginning of her 10th grade's year where she was behind on credits here's where the story gets good during her 10th and 11th grade 10th and 11th grade years she excelled in academics and never lost sight of her goals she was able to complete her high school diploma requirements early and will graduate this year which would have been the completion of her junior year this year she's been a key piece to the growth of hcpa as a member of the leadership group School site Council and the student advisory Council she has been able to voice her opinions and make effective change at the school site teachers and staff describe her as hard working sweet kind helpful and ambitious as a graduate she has multiple interests but will begin at VVC she has interest in real estate working with students and or as an entrepreneur in the fashion industry after BBC her dream is to apply for a four-year college and become a student abroad in Milan to study fashion I will add she originally spoke last year at the annual student presentation from High Desert premiere the following day I went to the school and wanted to encourage her to pursue public speaking she told me that she was giving her Administration a hard time because she didn't have a high desert Premiere shirt on like the granite and the Apple Representatives did so that got handled as well knowing that she was only a sophomore at that point I asked that she returned the following year and that she continued to be the speaker for high desert Premier Academy and that we would put her on the agenda monthly um I look forward to hearing from Angelique each meeting and hope she will stay in contact with our school district stopping by an occasional board meeting just to say hi or show us the smile and update us on your accomplishments she exempt exemplifies our District's value of authenticity and I'm so proud that we got to have time this year with you thank you [Applause] oh next I'm going to ask Ashley to come up and again Yvette we look forward to you following Ashley's footsteps we know you'll do wonderful Ashley has attended School in Apple Valley Unified School District since kindergarten yuccoloma Vanguard and granite during Ashley's time at Granite Hills she pushed herself in academics taking honors AP and dual enrollment college courses earning her seal of biliteracy in Spanish and served as an after-school program worker at her alumni yakaloma Elementary School some of her fondest School memories are of all the laughter with friends participating in anything but a packed backpack Spirit day countless school events and of course senior prom after she graduates Ashley will be attending Victor Valley college to continue her education while she figures out what her true passion is ASB has been a big part of her as she was a member all four years and served as governing council president her senior year she took her part seriously as helping others is something she cherishes and loved that she got a chance to serve the community several times she's also been the type to speak the truth and her truth is she has never found it to be easy and we know this she said that she does not like getting up at the podium but she does it this is partly due to the immense stress of wanting to make sure things go accordingly and to plan and and and the endless criticisms it did not get to her it did get to her at times and it felt to her like the job was never ending always working around the clock but she finds this important to mention in order to get to the real story it was hard it was a hard responsibility she carried but she did it with a smile on her face and never stopped giving her friends teachers and overall entirety of the school was counting on her to do and be her best always but she most definitely couldn't have done it alone she wants to thank everyone that offered her support including her vice president itzel for being her extra set of eyes came and presented during the time when you had your wisdom teeth removed and um sorry I looked away see I do it too uh and her family for pushing her beyond what they knew she could take and even everyone tonight listening to what she has to share she is leaving our district as a student but she promises to continue to contribute to the community in order to try and give back for what she's been privileged to have here at avusd I will add I love having our representative share about themselves at this final board meeting where we honor them however as I read it I thought to myself hmm she could certainly be a future that if you're going to live there Arizona she will be majoring in aerospace engineering with a focus in astronautics which is the focus on the Science and Technology of spacecraft and launch vehicles I had to look that up because I wanted to know that I was going to actually speak to what you're going to focus on and I'm really excited for you during senior Awards I watched Cheyenne get called up several times because she is receiving the University's presidential scholarship twenty one thousand dollars women of Excellence scholarship for five thousand dollars and an achievement scholarship for four thousand dollars here's what I'll add regarding Cheyenne she has Poise and always appears positive and bubbly which I will just tell you I got to see her both on the field cheering and chair at board meetings but it all plays out right she comes up bubbly she's a cheerleader she often came to meetings with an Entourage and they always followed her lead smiling and cheering on the younger students and their high school peers from across town knowing she is heading to Embry Riddle to focus on astronautics tells me she's well-rounded cheer ASB and stem that is quite a resume finally categories this year we have 28 students in Gold only if we brought the gold silver and bronze we would outfill this room it's an unbelievable demonstration yes many of these students will be going on evening to our board members and our administrative staff um here this evening for those of you that do not know me I'm Christy Dillon I worked at Vanguard Preparatory School for the past 14 and a half years and with a total of 22 and a half years as a school office assistant in the district in January 2023 my workload was greatly reduced by our present administrative staff at Vanguard Preparatory I have great concerns referencing the waiting list process and the enrollment process now going on at Vanguard Preparatory for you members who may not know Vanguard enrollment is based on waiting lists applications submitted are placed in a date order manner on a spreadsheet enrollment of new students is compiled in date order along with complete transparency to the parent students and staff in many applications in one particular grade level there could be more applications more parents waiting more students waiting versus maybe another grade level for example maybe kindergarten might have a hundred students on it where fourth grade might only have 15 or 20.

that is the deadline to catch this before it goes to 50 cents and then you would have a whole nother year to catch this before it goes to zero okay you don't have to do 50 million dollars you could do a two-year bond this year and just hold it at 81.6 cents because you're not ready to think about the big project if there is one okay there are so many different ways um to address this but what what I really just like to make districts aware of is that you have the drop coming and that if there are needs that you're thinking about we have six-ish months to think about it it takes a minimum of 90 days to work through a bond this year maybe 120 depending on the types of bonds that you're talking about so um starting no later than December 1st if you wanted to catch that before the 50 cents that's sort of the the time frame that we're talking about and I did outline the steps for you on page seven that we run through when we when we work on a bond issue great to do a public hearing um and I guess I should say that there are a lot of borrowing actions for school districts in Illinois that don't require voter approval if you're building a brand new building that requires voter approval um but almost everything else we are by and large able to finance without voter approval as long as you have debt capacity to go back to that page way back at the beginning that said your debt capacity was 52 and change as long as you're buying less than the statutory debt limit and you're not building a brand new building we by and large can do it as long as we run run through these notices we have to provide public notice we have to publish things in the paper we have to go through certain steps to provide the transparency to the community but you don't necessarily have to go to the voters unless you're choosing to build a new bill so we don't have to work around the election Cycles because the election Cycles are very limited we don't have an opportunity to vote again before that tax rate or drop is the next election is uh is the primary which is getting for March we would miss our deadline on that one so that's my broad overview and I can go into any level now we can clear it out whatever path you guys are interested in but I thought that would at least give you something to chew on are there any questions I can answer or Chris something that didn't cover that I I think I have one and I know that our last Bonds were sold at one percent that was the interest rate it was a great deal we are now at around four is what you're saying so do you go out longer with the I mean how does that the interest rate how does that affect how much you can get and how long you have to go out because a 20-year mortgage I'd much rather have a two-year mortgage although right now honestly we do have a little bit of what we call an inverted yield curve the the like one two three year interest rates are very similar to the 17 18 19 year interest rates because of what the fed's been doing every time the FED raises the raids it's artificially pumping up that front end so our interest rates are currently will look like this is the shortest part of the curve then they go down a little and then they come back up we have a really very unique that's not usually interest rates are like this the shorter the bond the lower the interest rate um and then the longer you go the higher because that people want they want to be paid for investing along right if you're going to tie up your money for 20 years you want some value to that um so right now we do have that weird shape to the curve um so I can't say if you did a two-year Bond it would be cheaper than four percent because right now it probably wouldn't be but normally it would be um but if you were doing a 10-year bond it would beat you um and we're obviously speculating about the interest rate when I make those projections for you which is why I gave you the range um clearly you know if we started the process now you wouldn't sell bonds for three months so we're we're just so if I understand you correctly and I could be completely wrong but that's why I'm going to ask if we did a 20-year term that would get us the lowest interest rate correct no no 10 years 10 years yeah yeah probably a mid you know a 10 year-ish Bond maybe 12 will be notably lower than the 20 year I mean the one percent bid you you got even at that time was yeah we couldn't leave it at the time crazy good right the market was actually more like like a 180 and you you got a 101.

paid for with our existing bond the total estimate for the project is 342 000 is there a motion to approve absolutely final second is there any discussions and everyone is happy with the proposal yes number eight recommendation to approve the covid-19 response plan for 2023-24 school year is there a motion to improve okay 12 seconds any discussion we legally have to approve a coping 19 response plan in order to still receive our federal funding from Esser so there are no changes to the plan of when we approved it at the beginning of this school year so that is just in place for us in case a pandemic return we sure hope it does but maybe we know more if it does any other discussion on the Covenant plan all right let's do roll call Amy yes Carol yes Stephanie yes thank you yes yes all right number nine is a recommendation to improve the curriculum versus your cycle of 2023 to 2029 for social studies and math uh curriculum and textbooks and I'm very glad Debbie's here because she did a lot of work on that and I'm not going to read all of those but um there were committees that were available um and did lots and lots of work all year to assess um what curricula ought to be used in history and um I think it had not been done before a while not not during the five years that I was here and so I'm really glad that they found curricula that they liked that so is there a promotion to improve so yeah I'll second okay all right and I sort of jumped ahead there on on discussion is there anything else you want to add daddy oh I just I want to thank Emily for experimenting the process at the beginning of school year the same Year the long process and Christy wrightson and I um really enjoyed working with all the teachers and I think the teachers really appreciated the process that feedback from them at our final meeting was nothing but positive and I'm excited to get English language when it was good I like I went to the final meeting of that event and tried the lessons out and you know were able to really use a curricula over the period of the Year try it out see what they liked you know and um because you really don't you know you can read something but until you've actually used it really so I think there was a lot of that and you'll see that actually there's a little bit of difference between the different buildings and the different grade levels and I think that's important too um you know one company might not make something that works everything from kindergarten to senior committees or groups or um so the teaching at the high school heard everything that the teachers at the Ed kindergarten in person second so they really for the first time ever know what each other is doing at each of the grade levels that's good that's great yeah yeah well and I'm glad that you know you guys developed a new process involved in really likely that goes well for us to do a little bit every year and um you can say all right um any other discussion all right let's do along Amy yes Carol yes Steph Yes Vicky yes yes number 10 recommendations with proven out of state field trip to the Brown County High School band to go to Mason Ohio on May 20th 2023.
