um all elementary schools in Cheshire are ranked in the top seven in New Haven County Norton was one Highland five Chapman six do a little seven so all of our schools are ex you know exceptional in this respect CHS with the number four High School in New Haven County I was number 25 out of 206 in Connecticut uh and I'm really proud and Kelly will be happy to hear that Dodd Middle School and Mike I'm sure number one teachers in New Haven County and they were the number three Middle School overall so um great I really appreciate the Realtors coming um I think it was really mutually beneficial and a good use of our time and thank you to you Andrew as well for being there and uh Ben and Marlene also um the last item is is also really uh neat you know we believe uh there's talking about the trades but there's also a ever-shrinking global economy that our students uh and I I know our families that live in this community are engaging with people from outside the United States on a more regular basis than we probably ever have in our lifetime with the acceleration of technology and travel and everything like that and so we think it's important to connect with other cultures and have an understanding uh globally of what's going on uh to give our kids the best opportunity for Success when they leave the Cheshire Public School System toward that end I was contacted by the Jackson Mundo Office of Education that is the equivalent of a State Department of Education in South Korea who was interested in um they we had been referred to them by others in Connecticut uh which they've had a previous experience for a district that might be a good place to partner with an exchange of ideas and so um we will have visitors the deputy superintendent of the the goe will be here uh next Wednesday and Thursday with a small team to observe the instruction in the Cheshire public schools and we'll explore the potential for a partnership with them if it you know we find that it can be mutually beneficial and helpful for our students and staff we'll certainly entertain that but it's still regardless of how it shakes out it's it's nice that other people recognize us as a leader in our field and somebody worth exploring to do business with so that'll be going on next Wednesday and Thursday so that's it for me um appreciate the opportunity and certainly entertain any questions yeah um not a question but a comment you would say a big concern for me is alternative Pathways positive outcomes for the students also kind of avoiding these huge massive debts we have for the country a recent article that I was reading about the trades specifically about electricians earlier tonight we were talking at least I was mentioning the possibility of electrifying the new schools rather than using the fossil fuels so I was reading a story about this in which it mentioned that the expectation over the next 10 years for electricians in the U.S is another million added which is a significant number I mean um but one thing that the the focus of the article was actually about women and it said electricians really I guess it's not that surprising to me only two percent of electricians are women and I think that there's a huge opportunity for for uh some of our you know female students if they were so inclined to look at something like that and have a real opportunity to do that it the article was clear that there was some real drawbacks when you're working in basically a man-dominated occupation a lot of guys are really nice and some not necessarily so nice but there's a real opportunity there again it was only two percent of women are electricians in the US and that I found that a little surprising at least initially yeah I wonder how many women would be interested in hiring a female electrician now I mean I would think that there would be a very lucrative opportunity there where women would feel more comfortable perhaps and for whatever reason but um I think the point is clear that it'd be great to have more girls exploring these fields and um I share that um that you know Desire with you and I I when I looked at the number of students uh very early this morning before I emailed Ms Solano I was excited to see that there were a few girls in the group and I think we can do more to um that you know encourage more females to consider and explore there's no commitment you know you're going to see what it what it entails um and you may find out this is nothing you do not want to go down this path and that's fine um but you may find out you do and so we want to encourage as many kids as possible to engage in it we'll continue to put that out for people that like I said in 48 hours we've had you know 36 I didn't check it again today but 36 kids sign up so that's encouraging and we want to definitely you know encourage more girls to sign up as well construction is another uh space where I don't think there's a lot of women who work in it and I it might have been five years ago I was reading an article about a woman who started her own construction company because she didn't feel like dealing with guys anymore and she painted her construction equipment you know like a backhoe and stuff she painted it pink and her business just like took off she had women who wanted to talk that's why I have home renovations I have some home renovations that we do my wife is in charge room the guys who come in the contractors they try to talk to me I said she's the boss talk to her anyway uh and then just one other point on uh electrification right here within the schools um then messiana organized uh an event today to have our school bus provider service provider datco come here to town with one of their electric school buses they've got 11 they said it's not Cheshire but they've got 26 towns probably hundreds of school buses at least they've got 11 of them right now they brought one of them they brought a propane powered School Bus as well but we got on the electric school bus and it was basically silent when it came on it was fantastic and that has that in my opinion I've mentioned it before but I think that would have a very positive effect in reducing complaints from kids and parents related to school buses because you don't have the engine running the roar or the engine with the kids screaming over it just to talk to each other so just more of the electrification of America thank you I'm sorry I know we've been here a long time but I just want to say um I know the superintendent quickly gleaned over all of the other work that he is doing out in the community and you know it's we're in this every day but it's just important to know that not only is he running this gigantic school system he's also having all the Realtors come in to talk about the work that CPS does and the students ensuring the business Community attending the economic development commission meetings not like I'm inviting him he's just coming and making himself be there I'm part of the agenda um and just the community large really appreciates that so I just want to say thank you because I know you have it's important that we get the word out about what CPS is and thanks for that of course any other questions or comments for the superintendent okay does that conclude your report yes sir all right excellent um we have no old business to my recollection uh we have no new business on the agenda I don't think I just lost it here let's make sure uh it says chairperson's update which uh Tony did not provide me with one um and then so I guess I'll just read the upcoming uh meetings here it says Wednesday May 24 7 PM is a Personnel committee meeting um Thursday June 1 7 30 is our uh business meeting um June Tuesday June 6 at 6 30 PM is policy um Monday June 12th 7 PM is curriculum committee Thursday June 30 7 30 a.m is our um uh year-end fiscal meeting in the uh at the humiston boardroom um and that's uh that's all I have is there a motion twosier second all in favor all right

have gotten to know the gifted Scholars talented athletes incredible artists hard workers and Unforgettable personalities that make up this amazing group of students as a female principal of CMS I would like to quote a few other leading ladies and the advice they have to share Barbara Bush once said never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people your family your friends your co-workers and even strangers you meet along the way your character is beyond important students I'd like to ask you a question who are you going to be I'm not asking you about what you are going to eventually do but who are you going to be when interviewing for a job they aren't going to ask you to explain a test score or a grade you got in class they are going to ask you who you are are you a person who gives up when times get tough or are you the person who keeps going when you are the last across the finish line West Point Cadets who've scored high on things like grit and determination were more likely to complete basic training than those who ranked high on things like class rank SAT score and physical fitness Michelle Obama once said if you're willing to dig deep if you're willing to pick yourself up when you fall if you're willing to work and work until your weaknesses become your strengths then you'll develop a set of skills that you can mold and apply to any situation you encounter any job you might have any crisis you might confront but you got to make that choice I always say to all of the students that come into my office with conflicts show me your friends and I will show you your future this is a simple quote that speaks truth and I'll say it again students show me your friends and I will show you your future think about the top five people you like to surround yourself with on a weekly basis are they helping you become the person you want to be or are they holding you back find like-minded individuals who are going to empower you to do better and be the best you can be and do the same for them look out into the audience these people are here to support you they should be your people that you lean on when times get tough they are proud of you today they'll be proud of you tomorrow as you go into high school I hope you remain true to yourself and your values this is not the end High School graduation is such an exciting time in your life everything is right in front of you and we've done our best to prepare you we've done our best to give you opportunities to experience different classes and activities to participate in sports and clubs and to meet a diverse group of people some of you know exactly what you want to do next in your life and some of you need more time to figure it out and all of that is totally normal it will be okay I've been an educator for a long time and I've thought a lot about I want for my students for our students when they graduate from high school of all the things that I hope that you have learned in school the thing I hope the most is that you go out and be good people several years ago I had the chance to work with Sandy McDonald whose family founded McDonnell Douglas when he retired from the aviation industry he used his time and his resources to support character education in our area he believed that it wasn't math or physics that was keeping people from being successful it was character the kind of people that we are he used to share a quote often and I will paraphrase it for you if you look for the greatness and Genius of America in her harbors and her Rivers it isn't there if you look for the greatness and Genius of America in her fields and forests it isn't there it isn't in her wealth and her Commerce it isn't in her Democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution the secret of the genius and greatness of America is in her goodness America is great because she is good and if America ever ceases to be good she will cease to be great congratulations class of 2023 go be great but don't forget to be good thank you Mrs Taylor I'd like to now take a moment and recognize thank some of the faculty and staff that have joined us here today I'd like to start by asking the bevel East administrative team to please stand and be recognized for their contributions to the class of 2023.

congratulations on this Monumental achievement that you have all reached as we stand on the precipice of the next chapter let's remember that the Book of Life Is Ours to write each day is a fresh page ready for us to inscribe with courage wisdom and heart fear not the blank pages that have yet to be written for they are opportunities in the skies embrace the challenges the uncertainties and the unknown because in it's in these spaces that we grow as we leap into the future let's take our experiences our dreams and the lessons we've learned here to mold a story that is uniquely ours here's to the next chapter class of 2023 maybe one of Discovery adventure and Triumph write it well thank you and roll tide thank you as we venture into our next chapter in life we will be challenged drastically whether it is paying off our car payments or even buying our first house challenges will arise that will require us to bounce back in the hopes of succeeding as the French playwright Moliere said the greater the obstacle the more glory in overcoming it most of us sitting here today will struggle with the challenges of adulthood but we need to push on into a future of success that will follow us wherever we go so as your valedictorian I will send this off into our adulthood in which we will overcome these challenges to grow as humans in our next chapters of life [Applause] High School felt like an eternity but we made it to the end who would have thought the amazing class of 2023 would be sitting here today we have come so far freshman year you know the time where you didn't know where your classes were of it no matter what to do remote learning prevailed and of the students the class as a whole persevered and made it through an unprecedented time that's why the class of 2023 stands out above all I know turning the page to a new chapter will open up a new can of amazement and the class of 2023 will continue to push through until the end no matter the path of your choice I know the result will be the same [Applause] today the senior class of 2023 and our principal will close this chapter of Our Lives after four years I believe that our future can be summed up in one quote coach herb Brooks famously said Great Moments are born from great opportunities and opportunities are what we've been given we have all made some great memories and lasting relationships and as we remember these experiences we will use the knowledge we gained to propel ourselves to a better future we are surely face adversity or unexpected challenges that we will face head on I know the class of 2023 is ready to create Great Moments no matter what challenges are put in our way foreign West was working in the library one of my favorite parts of reading is deciding where to start but for some of us that is the most challenging part each and every one of us has our own different paths some of us are heading off to college to serve our country or to start the workforce we all have our own unique stories to share these past four years may even be taught in this building one day the textbooks will not only cover the challenges we faced but rather how we overcame them because each day at Balboa West we were provided the essential skills by the staff and teachers to prepare us for the future each day was a Turning Page so we can have the confidence to start our next chapter [Applause] as our time in high school comes to a close a new chapter is arising for everyone no matter where life takes us in the future every single one of us should feel accomplished about the new life skills we have acquired throughout our time in high school we as a class have developed a strong sense of self-independence perseverance determination and integrity that will continue to guide us through life and Aid us to become successful in all future endeavors all the challenges setbacks that have occurred during our time at Belvo West Maroons will allow each of us to surpass the thresholds of any obstacles that we may face in our next chapter of life no matter what it may be [Applause] it's been wonderful standing next to all of you as you forged out your own path every bit of character development you had from that time in the cafeteria to that awkward moment in that one class and every other piece of exposition you had you shared it with every one of your 531 classmates but your prologue's done now we are the precipice of your next chapter and a cliffhanger's no way to leave it so hurry up and turn that next page I can't wait to see what you become foreign and a great burst of leaves growing on the trees just as things grow in fast movies I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer this feeling a feeling of next chapters and wide opportunities is reflected not only in the words of F Scott Fitzgerald's famous novel The Great Gatsby but also in our own lives as we approach the coming summer the anticipation of new beginnings the spring comes an atmosphere of change and growth and we may rightly feel that this day marks the Advent of the rest of our lives but as we move forward in the pursuit of our various post-high school goals I encourage you to greet every new day of your life with the same sweeping summer feeling seeking to find the rising Summerstone of opportunity in each moment I am confident that this resilient class will be able to achieve any happiness that we strive to reach [Applause] sure this chapter is over and we can remember Miss and be thankful for our time here but a new chapter has begun a chapter where we can seize any opportunity that comes our way we can continue to make a name for ourselves as adults and even though we are done learning in high school we will keep learning every day but now about ourselves about our families our friends leaders our community and our world maybe our high school chapters still felt like it was a little out of our control but now the pages are blank and the pen is in your hands but first let us walk across this stage and claim what we have earned here congratulations class of 2023.

tribulations such as trying to find eggs at the grocery store or even worse trying to leave the school parking lot all at once these are all different scenarios yeah all very difficult tasks but we've pushed through and persevered to be where we are today we sit here in the stadium facing our next challenges that our next chapter in life will bring ready and willing to face them head on while we have shared some big events throughout the years the opportunities we've had at Boulder Creek have given us the chance to forge our own unique paths on our classes common Journey for graduating here today as we gain more Knowledge and Skills something that most likely impacted the route of our paths was the answer to that we were all asked at a young age what do you want to be when you grow up in elementary school we knew kids who wanted to be astronauts superheroes or the president in my case I wanted to be a princess as we grow up this question became stressful and came with the pressure of finding our interest in life early on and for many of us the answer to this question periodically changed our graduating class has become familiar with change like no other by adjusting to new grading system systems new ways of learning new friends new people new jobs maybe even a new car or two as change continues to occur in our lives and so does the answer to the question what do you want to be when you grow up I challenge you to focus more on who you want to be instead of what you want to be focus on your character first and surely your life's path will fall into place by focusing on building character traits such as self-discipline responsibility and integrity you are already halfway there in becoming success successful in your desired career one thing I'm sure we can all relate to is the stress of that 1159 canvas deadline especially when we knew that assignment was going to lock at 11 59.

this time it is my pleasure to introduce the summa laude representatives of the class of 2023 for some Reflections please welcome Laney culley Creighton Ensley Ava Hamilton Aaron McVeigh Ava neumeyer Olivia pareda Jackson Robin and Inez Santos the southern Wonders of the World are Travelers rides human achievement from the pyramids to the temples the Wonders are shocking in their beauty and serve as examples of what amazing things people can accomplish similar to the Seven Wonders bubble East has watched us evolve it gaze Upon Our shortcomings our successes and now our graduation in fact we've realized that East has seven wonders of its own the first Wonder of elbow East is the set of the front stairs on our first day of high school we climbed the stairs nervous and terrified we had the next four years ahead of us we wondered if we would get lost on the way to class the answer is yes if our classes would be hard or if our teachers would dress code us that's when we showed up wearing our khakis and rocking our side parts over the years we have changed our appearances as well as transformed our personalities we replaced apprehension with confidence to minus with involvement and confusion with wisdom yes parents we are wise over the last four years we have climbed although we have all tripped or even Fallen or graduation today shows that we have and will continue to conquer the Summits that life puts in our way foreign as you make your way to the Apex of stairs and take a sharp right you have to whiffed of what should be food even though Drake and 21 never performed in our cafeteria fifth hour lunch still applauds like Rihanna just announced her pregnancy the second time this understood custom Applause is a testament to our Unity the cafeteria has not only shaped who we have become but has guided us to where our friends are where to sit and where we belong a place where we found new friends and more importantly where we found ourselves each day we grew more determined and confident as freshmen we sat at tables with our past but now we sit at those same tables with our futures oh how the turntables somewhere between the Bosco Sticks Shadow boxing tournaments and snack bar lines we've hungered for whatever our future brings we became more comfortable with who we are instead of what we thought we should be when our lunch hour ends we all leave the cafeteria and step into our third wonder Central Terrace home to congregating crowds discarded lunch trays and spirit dress competitions which Coach K and Coach Peters always dominate Central chairs truly embodies its name as a center of student life here friendships are showcased in the groups who congregate around the flagpole who stall before class and who raced to the Chick-fil-A lines together we've learned how to navigate Central Terrace without colliding with others twisting an ankle on Integrity or slipping on success and we all know to avoid responsibility we've learned that unexpected connections can be made within a single passing period and after exploring our campus for the last four years it's clear that Central Terrace exemplifies the best part of our school the community just beyond Central Terrace is the pack home to many of our band and Choir concerts we've held so many spectacular shows in the pack which are far more memorable than those Dole class meetings taking up our lunch periods just this year we revived the Mr Lancer pageant swam through the Little Mermaid and received numerous awards at the senior honors ceremony well at least I did but that time spent on stage helped us nurture our creativity and grow our confidence the pack stands as a symbol of our love of expressing new ideas and art as well as our never-ending courage as quiet as innocent shy freshman we were scared of the road ahead of us but now we look in the mirror and see confident courageous seniors who are ready to stand in front of our class graduate and begin the next chapter of Our Lives foreign but at the end of a long day no matter how you got home we all returned to the student parking lot our fifth East wonder it is the most dreaded place in the morning and then the answer to our prayers at 3 25 PM every day we would rush to our cars to leave before the traffic hit or else it was every man for himself but when I think about how quickly we wanted to leave every day part of me wants to stay just a minute longer because in that single moment we can look around the parking lot and relive memories of driving our friends sneaking out to lunch and blasting music with the windows down those are memories we'll never forget like the cars in the parking lot people in your life will come and go life is going to move so fast where every hour will feel like a minute so we must learn to cherish the people and memories we've made and not take them for granted um while we all hustled out of the parking lot at the end of the long day the poll the football stadium would reunite us on Friday nights these lasting memories bring us to the sixth wonder the football field here is where we came to our first game as Lancers pushed up to the top row thinking we'd never moved down the stance whether we were in the game in the band or in the crowd we were unified as one team it's a field where we should have won the Powder Puff game if we wouldn't have had referees who are changing the rules as the game went on and it's a field where our award-winning band performed even though we did not bring home a championship at least we finally moved down the stands and onto the field during senior Sunrise soaking up our first day of senior year now we stay in here for the last time and graduate on the very football field we used to watch from afar no matter if we're on the field off the field or a thousand miles away we'll always be Lancers sorry within these places we have created many memories put in hours of hard work and now grown into young adults and even though our journey through bevel East has come to an end one more Wonder lies in store like the others it celebrates the intelligence creativity and discipline that each of us can display it welcomes the possibilities and the potential that each of us exhibits but unlike this football field the Seventh Wonder cannot be found within the school it still Waits For Us undiscovered and unknown in fact it is up to each of us to seek out our own Seventh Wonder which truly lies within our futures and our search starts now so go walk across the stage and find the Wonder in your life [Applause] thank you so much our last summa laude representative also does double duty as the student council president so it's my pleasure to introduce Annette Santos it's my pleasure to introduce Annette Santos to give a class farewell before I begin I would like to thank my parents for supporting me my brother Isaac for pushing me my teachers for guiding me and my friends for being there for me during the good times and during honors writing I have been a Lancer for as long as I can remember my earliest memories are coming onto campus to participate in the Lancer cheer or dance clinics or my personal favorite to help my mom decorate for the homecoming dance I roamed the halls in awe of the painted windows and streamers and after the homecoming football game I would beg to stay with my mom to finish decorating the gym until it looked like a scene from a movie in fourth grade my mom who most of you know is Mrs Santos finally let me go to the homecoming dance but like every other Lancer I wanted to leave after 15 minutes still East was where I wanted to be and a Lancer was who I wanted to be so I guess you could say I had high expectations for my four years here my high expectations however did not keep me from worrying I mean what if I hated it what if I failed what if I didn't make any friends what if they stopped serving orange chicken in the cafeteria but from the moment I stepped on campus as a student I knew I was home and East may not have been exactly what I expected sadly no one broke out into dance and song like High School Musical but it had exceeded my expectations in different ways Belleville East provided us all with a place to grow no longer are we Wolf Branch Whiteside or was there any other Middle School here now we are united fellow East Lancers who wear our colors proudly All in This Together and we grew the most through the lessons that we learned after four years I learned that East exceeded my expectations because I worked hard to make East exceed my expectations you get out what you put in and we showed up for East and while there were no impromptu dance numbers we did paint our parking spots meet Joshy the cow every Chick-fil-A Wednesday and find our teachers in the face at Lancer Fest we made the most of what East had to offer and we seize the day and now as I leave the Lancer family and move on to the next stage here I am again worrying about things to come what if I hate it what if I fail what if I don't like my roommate what if it doesn't feel like home but if I have learned anything from East it is that life will exceed your expectations so I hope that this next step exceeds your expectations Justice bevel East did for us I hope you set expectations High show up for yourself and make your dreams come true and I hope that you always remember that once a Lancer always a Lancer thank you inas and to all of our summa laude Representatives thank you for those wonderful worlds graduates of on behalf of the faculty staff and everyone associated with bevel East it's my distinct pleasure to congratulate you today on your graduation day we're proud of you I of course want to join you in thanking your parents your family your friends and everyone who's assisted you in reaching this point today we've worked together to make it for the class of 2023.
