could we get another round of applause for Diego [Applause] lower your expectations only got two minutes good morning friends families honor guests teachers admins in the class of 2023. my name is August 2 and on behalf of the class of 2023 special appreciations for faculty staff teachers and parents for making all this happen I love you Mom and Dad couldn't do it without you guys I also thank God as I give this honorable speech as we spend an hour and 15 minutes here today to recognize the fact that we met the requirements of the government today we prepare ourselves to internet the unknown before us according to Xander the fabled real world armed with all the knowledge gained in high school to prepare for us like divining polynomials analyzing 18th century poetry or the mitochondria you know the things that adults do in their daily lives all the time my message here today as we tread into the vast ocean is to continue growing and put value into knowledge as Leonardo da Vinci once said he who loves practice without theory is like a sailor who boards a ship without a writer and compass and never knows where he may cast don't let these years a built up learning go to waste I'd also like to mention that the class of 2023 has been deemed the lamest class by many senior teachers thank you senior teachers for giving us many opportunities that are undeserving but you guys always saw potential on us I like to say that I think I'm speaking for the class of 23 when I say we haven't picked it and we're just late bloomers like Jack Harlow said we're still out here getting cuter today isn't the day you begin a New Journey rather a day for you to continue your journey you will be the same tomorrow as you are today most of our Journeys began way back when you're five going through the school bookstore not picking up the books that had the high reading levels but the ones with the really really nice accessories like Let It Go Ninjagos or those Minecraft books now we walk to the bookstore with our head held down picking up the mandatory textbooks that are thicker and more expensive than our bank accounts hey don't walk out of here blind use those challenges you overcame and experiences you made to guide you no matter how different our Patriot Journeys were together we are also Patriots my last message is for my current people and current excellence again at last class of 2023 let's continue writing our stories as we did throughout four years at Independence embark on your journey and do so with your education and knowledge from here as an armor and guide congratulations class of 2023 thank you [Applause] thank you August now I'm happy to welcome our student body president miss Olivia tena what's up patrons my name is Olivia Taylor and I had the honor to be your student body president this year I want to congratulate all of you for being here today class of 2023 we've made it or that friend who actually did their work but we're all here in the safe place for one last time I want to give a huge thanks to Administration teachers friends and family for helping us get to the stage I would like to personally thank Commander Foster miss salira and miss Marshall for pushing me to be here today mucho Caso 2023 there's so many things I would like to say yes so little time after a long four years we've made it we're here took a chapter in our own book it's time to leave this behind and start a life that people call adulthood you know whatever that is as you go to this new chapter remember to be optimistic about the things that occur in your life and remember that it's okay to not be okay it's also okay to make mistakes because we are learning as we go when you see someone cute walking down the street compliment their hair compliment their shoes because you never know what can happen get out of your comfort zone and live life while you still can when we first came here as freshmen looking for yellow stairs they all told us that junior year was going to be a challenge yet no one prepared us for a disease that affects 99 of seniors and if you don't know what I'm talking about you're probably in the lucky one percent the disease goes around all year long and it affects those who least expect it it gets difficult to get out of bed every morning it's easy to just not go to school the assignments can be turned in later or even worse the submission button disappears some of us were really struggling two weeks ago there were around 150 of us that were not going to be here listening to my beautiful boys but I'm happy to say that most of us are here because we were able to defeat the disease that is known as senioritis or senioritis was so bad we couldn't get together for a senior ditch day but now we go our separate ways and we might never see each other again I wish you guys the best class of 2023 before I go I want to leave you guys with a quote from a Mexican boxer that came from nothing and it's not considered a legend I'm very happy with what I've accomplished but we're going for more by Canelo Alvarez don't give up now because our success is just starting this is Miss press officially signing out [Applause] thank you for those speeches ladies and gentlemen and congratulations again to our top one percent students now I would like to recognize the top 10 percent of our graduating class whose names are designated in your program please stand if you are in the top 10 percent of your graduating class [Applause] please be seated now I want to say thank you to a special group of Independence High School students if you have enlisted to serve in our Armed Forces please stand to be recognized [Applause] thank you for your service now I would like to bring up Glendale Union High School District governing board member Laura arita good morning everyone buenos dias my name is Laura arita as Clerk of the governing board of the Glendale Union High School District I feel fortunate for the opportunity to address our guest of honor The Graduate graduating class of Independence High School thank you seniors you did it you made it this ceremony is designed to Mark the end of one face of your lives in the beginning of the next there are those who believe that today is the day you start your journey but if you think about it the journey began a long time ago looking back has any of you realize that you are the Freshman Class that was cut short thanks to the unannounced Global pandemic I'm certain that's I'm certain that that's not what you envisioned your first high school year to be like you were forced at a young age to be mentally strong and to face challenges out of your control such as figuring out how to succeed academically behind that Chromebook screen or learning how to socially adapt as we all transition back to the to the in-person setting that many of us dreamed about before we get ready to transition one more time be proud of what you have accomplished in the last four years of high school and the treasures and treasure the memories and friendships friendships you gained along the way have pride but be humble with humility give thanks to those who have walked beside you whether they are here physically or looking at you from up above in closing no matter how your journey started you have made it here today where the path you have traveled splits into 376 unique roads as tomorrow awaits to unfall in front of each and every one of you make it your goal to Masters life's biggest transitions while being the best version of yourself graduates on behalf of all the members of the governing board of Glenda Union High School District I want to say congratulations class of 2023.

uh and of significance uh those nine Parcels that make up the casinos the future Casino site are currently not contributing to any of the Tiff revenues for Tiff number seven all of those Parcels are either tax exempt they're below the base value that was uh ascribed to the properties uh during the imposition of the district or in the case of one or two of the parcels they're actually outside of the Tiff currently yeah for one second Mr minute could you explain what a tiff is Tiff is a tax increment financing District that's a specific development Zone essentially that is set up and the purpose of the Tiff is to provide economic incentives so that development can occur typically what happens there's an analysis done that um a developer wants to develop a certain property with a certain use or for a specific purpose and for whatever reason the economics of the site simply do not allow for the development of that particular parcel the Tiff district is a tool that allows for cost assistance incentives to come back to the developer and it's paid the whole premise of a tiff is the property tax rate or property tax revenue is Frozen based on the value of the TIF district when the Tiff is established then as the development occurs the assessed value of that particular parcel or area Rises the the increase in the in the value provides the revenue to be able to take on those economic incentives that's a tiff 101 really quickly yeah thank you you're using that word a lot I want to make sure the community understood what you're talking absolutely absolutely so as I mentioned there is no contribution to to tip number seven from these nine Parcels currently uh and the Redevelopment agreement as it was passed actually calls for creation of a new micro tip a small Tiff that is extremely focused uh in its purpose and in its in its scale to be able to provide the incentives that we talked about a second ago only the casino property would be included in the new micro Tiff only those nine parcels and the city is currently in the process of developing that micro tip there's a specific legal process that has to occur when a TIF district is created there are certain studies and plans that need to be prepared we're in the process of preparing and finalizing those reports now additionally there's a series of public meetings and public hearings that need to happen uh when you create a TIF district and we're in the process of developing the schedule for those hearings and meetings with the goal being that we would finalize and establish the TIF district prior to December 31st of 2023.

we are grateful for your help in celebrating our students achievements today please join me in honoring all the graduating seniors who have made great contributions to Magnolia High School I would like to recognize the following student groups graduates when your group is called please rise and remain standing until the very end academic honors candidates please rise a through G completion ASB student leadership student ambassador Google certificate completion California scholarship Federation Career Technical education CTE pathways golden state seal of Merit National Honor Society State still by literacy State still Civic engagement cyber security pathway and Vietnamese dual language immersion Academy you may now be seated congratulations students on all of your accomplishments today's ceremony marks a milestone for our students and their families it signifies a transition in the lives of these young adults as they leave Magnolia and begin their own Journeys as Citizens Scholars creators and change makers Magnolia High School is a great place not only because of our amazing students but because of its many dedicated staff members and teachers therefore I would like to acknowledge a very special teacher this afternoon Magnolia has been very blessed to have the legendary Michelle Waxman dedicate her entire teaching career to supporting our Sentinels not only has Miss Waxman taught every level of high school English at Magnolia but she has filled the same classroom room 104 with love and light for 33 years in addition to her years as an English teacher Miss Waxman spent six years serving as mcnullas ASB director needless to say Miss Waxman has been the most dedicated compassionate and Wally spirited Sentinel throughout her entire career span at Magnolia as a student really recently say in our school's newspaper Miss Waxman is the kind of teacher who not only teaches literature but how we can enjoy ourselves and those around us miss Waxman may you spend the rest of your days enjoying yourself the way we enjoy you all these years we will certainly miss you congratulations on your well-deserved retirement back I would not like to take a moment to address our graduates the Tibetans have a saying wherever you have friends that is your country wherever you receive love that's your home graduates I want you to remember the pockets of Magnolia where you receive love maybe it was the teacher who let you eat lunch in their room on a raining day or perhaps the coach who kept you in the bench because you were too hurt to keep playing your counselor who helped you select courses gave you a space to take a break or to cry through the smiles of the cafeteria staff as they kept you fed every morning and afternoon and the campus safety crew who taught to you as they walk you to class whatever that love may have struck you I hope all of that has left Magnolia a place you can always call home a place where people understand you where patients love and compassion prevail unfortunately the harsh reality is that compassion and patience do not always Prevail in fact today we Face a world in need of compassion kindness and understanding more than ever as I reflect on this the words of South African activists Bishop Desmond Tutu come to mind do your little bit of good where you are it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world graduates you have all brought those little bits of goods to Magnolia with you each day planting them like seeds among the people you have to encounter here now it is your turn to make sure that good grows through rain and shine into a Garden of even better there are still plenty of patches in the world that needs compassion after all compassion is much more than just a feeling it's a force for change by doing your acts of compassion kindness and empathy for others no matter how big or small you can make a positive impact in your own life and the lives of those around you as you embark on this new journey I urge you this do not forget to find happiness within yourselves even if life's obstacle make you believe you don't deserve it being able to discover true happiness is a human right it does not rely on external factors such as wealth success or fame no true happiness comes from within it is the joy that comes from being a positive difference in the world and from the relationships that you build so graduates as you forge a new and exciting path for yourselves remember to cultivate compassion and seek happiness within use your talents your knowledge and your passion to make the world a better place for all in closing perhaps the Dalai malama puts it best if you want others to be happy practice compassion if you want to be happy practice compassion congratulations class of 2023 and may compassion and kindness be your guides as you look to the Future and now class of 2023 we have arrived at the moment you have all been it's called our final chapter when we were five they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up our answers were things and we're here now and over our senioritis because we did the work and successfully defended the years of study have finally ended we have grown these last four years and now the day has come to turn our tassels from surviving finals to surviving the pandemic we will say farewell to the people who taught us to read and write and as we walked on the field in our cap and gowns there shouldn't be any frowns as a wise teacher of mine Mr freund once said do it and like it we made our families proud as they sit here clapping for all but cheering for one our years of high school are finally done to the teachers who we've turned gray we just want to say thank you for leading the way because now some of us still want to be astronauts presidents and cowboys but that's our decision now and that's okay it's about our willingness to believe in ourselves just as Gilbert has believed in US oh time what has been done to us old time please be kind to us for it was always turn off your caps lock and now it's time to take our caps off but hey we graduated high school this the campus grounds the classroom and morning Rush Bell we'll always be schoolmates even though we may not know each other's names we all come from different schools but we're all here by the same fate so how does the RDA impact the the current situation that exists between School District 101 in the city of Aurora there is an existing intergovernmental agreement that was entered into in late 2011 it includes the city's tifs seven and eight essentially Tiff Aid is immaterial for this discussion the site is actually located in Tiff seven one of the provisions of that particular agreement actually calls for the city to declare a surplus of 10 percent of the gross incremental revenues on an annual basis what that means is there is a provision in the Tiff code that provides that once a surplus is declared those funds are turned over to the county and then there is the county goes through a process to split and rebate uh that those Surplus revenues among the overlapping districts that are contained within the Tiff um that that process is is handled in the code and the city is required to declare under the intergovernmental agreement 10 percent of the incremental revenues as Surplus for the most recently completed year um in calendar year 2022 that process resulted in a payment of approximately thirty nine thousand dollars to school district 101 we do expect that during calendar year 2023 or early 2024 as a result of that process the school district will receive an additional forty thousand dollars from that particular from that particular Surplus um additionally moving forward and discussing some of the RDA Provisions uh the casino like any other property owner will be liable for property taxes once it owns all the properties related to the casino site any of the incremental taxes that are generated by those nine Parcels will linear to the benefit of the new micro Tiff District the city plans to use those incremental revenues to pay debt service on the bond issue that the city will be issuing a little bit later on this year to to fund the city's contributions to the to the casino development however the RDA the Redevelopment agreement also contains a provision that if the incremental taxes are less than 5.25 million dollars in any year then the casino will make a payment to the city for the difference so if those nine Parcels that make up the future Casino site generates a four million dollars in incremental property tax revenue the casino will write a check to the city for one million two hundred and fifty thousand dollars that works out to be essentially a guarantee of about of incremental revenues of 5.25 million dollars annually this particular provision of the Redevelopment agreement begins two years after the bonds are issued and it will continue any year while the bonds are outstanding so under the under the terms of the new micro tip the city for its part intends to continue to honor the 10 annual Surplus distribution for the new casino microtip what this means is 525 000 will be declared Surplus annually that represents 10 percent of the incremental revenues of 5 million two hundred and fifty thousand dollars based on uh the school district's portion of the tax bill of 61.6 percent of the property tax bill that would result in a payment to the school district on an annual base basis of 323 400 dollars Additionally the existing intergovernmental agreement would continue in existence and we would continue to pay the 10 annual Surplus for the remaining properties in tip number seven until Tiff number seven expires in 2034.

11 17 through 18 and that's in Mystic and we can make those arrangements for you they have rooms at the Marriott right there on site so pretty board member that would like to come again I think it's uh it's pretty beneficial um I did want to mention that um on Thursday morning if anyone else would like to attend the superintendent myself Donna miskowski in in Tom Richardson will be meeting in the superintendent's office just to talk about the building maintenance where we are and specifically about the promotion ceremonies and the graduation ceremonies it bothers me to no end when I go by our schools and they're not trimming and there's grass growing up between the fences and all the work that we did last year is starting to pour through and we just came through a very difficult budget year where the taxpayers have uh given given us their trust and making sure not only are we falling through academically but we're also taking care of their buildings when our buildings start to look like they are right now um I feel that we're shirking our responsibilities for them so anybody else is welcome to attend that meeting it's at eight o'clock in the superintendent's Thursday Thursday correct and it's at 8 A.M Thursday okay and then um excuse me well if you are coming can you let us know because we'll need to post that if there are more than I think three members time for Wednesday can you tell me like tomorrow morning so please let Claudia know if you're attending I don't enjoy your roommate I'm gonna try again okay so we know we have Joe myself any other board member just so we know okay then it's just on myself okay uh and then the final thing is I've mentioned uh we have the teachers contract coming up and um we have I've assigned um the members of the board some members of the board to be on that Cindy I think uh Ryan myself we should present you yeah and Felicia those would be the former board members representing this on the teacher's contract I'll be rotating others in on a pair of contract and it'll be also coming up during weekend discussions on next year uh in September and um and then as far as the um principal's search I appointed Felicia and Russell to be on that on that principal search and I've been working with Mrs cortell and Mr Bishop and the committee they put together for that first round that's my report any any questions for me concerns comments okay all right well this leads us to a very exciting report from our Ecuador trip that kind of got changed last minute but um Mrs fabrisi is here in Mrs sack is here and some of the students they're going to tell us about that trip and uh clearly it went well because you're smiling and that that's always a good sign well good evening everyone and thank you so much for having us here uh we are so excited to be reporting on our beautiful and wonderful liquid joint trip um I want to introduce you to miss Andrea she checked with my colleague and my trusted companion on this wonderful trip and then we have for you to introduce yourselves uh yeah I'm Grayson Morgan um so anyway um we are going to guide you through some of those pictures um everybody has a little cartridge to play it tonight so um this is my fourth time presenting to the board you know having having come back from trips and one of them was with Mr Case um I'm really I'm still as excited as I was as the first time I started news trips um a while back when I first started in Canton so um I think this is a tradition in our town to continue those trips um we are so happy that we can do those again of course kovitz stopped that and unfortunately but um feels like it's back to normal now so let's just um guide you through some of our trip and then um we'll have the Reflection from our students as well and I will just end the presentation with the little folks that we have okay so um thank you everybody again good evening we're really happy to be here uh you know just a few extra things like behind the scenes from all the pictures that probably don't need these words but just a cultural experience that we offer that cult the language immersion the confidence that you come back with like these trips are you know overall like absolutely phenomenal for the well-being of all of these students and then we've shown them the gift of travel open their perspectives kind of wet their feet to Future travel so we we stand by them and thank you very much okay so for the first picture um we were standing by the equator and it was really fun and we did something oh yeah for the next one and we did some experiments there we got to see the stars of the southern hemisphere next question anybody wants to comment on that all right these are the street vendors and um in Quito um they're selling fresh fruits that they grow um these are the the ladies from the indigenous um ladies from Ecuador they're wearing their uh specific costume you know like they it's really very uh authentic right we can't get more authentic than that right and they've really barely speak Spanish also that's an interesting fact it's one this this was one of my favorite those are my favorite days this was one of the highlights somebody wanted to talk about that [Music] all right so these are two of my teachers holding the head of a guinea pig that's all I gotta say about that so this is a delicacy so they wanted us to obviously try that and we did um you know everybody tried it here right and maybe it is okay um all right so um we got to hike the Sierra negro volcano um it's massive the picture can't even really capture how huge it is but this whole middle area everything that's darker there is the Caldera so it's huge and we hiked up it it took a while maybe an hour or so um it was very hot but it was a lot of fun and it was definitely worth it at the top when it was nice and windy at the top and had a great View and that volcano erupted in 2018.

we do anticipate that that would as I mentioned a moment ago be approximately forty thousand dollars annually the next slide just simply shows and reflects what happens uh under the current Arrangement Under the Blue Bar uh on that graph and um what the annual the new annual Surplus distribution to the school district would be after the development of the Tiff so as we mentioned at the beginning of the presentation approximately 29 850 comes to the school district via the tax bills from those nine properties um and we would anticipate that that this that once the the uh new casino is up and running and has been constructed and is operating that that there would be a payment of three hundred and twenty three thousand dollars annually which means an increase of approximately 293 thousand dollars uh being paid to the school district on an annual basis over the life of the Tiff that would accumulate to approximately 6.8 million dollars uh compared to a to a revenue stream of about six hundred and eighty six thousand if the current condition were allowed to continue for the next 23 years um that represents an increase of about 6.1 million dollars uh in revenue and payment District to the district over that over that lifespan of the micro Tiff um additionally once the new micro Tiff closes about 23 or 24 years from now the school district would receive about 3.2 million dollars in property taxes annually from the casino development assuming that the casino property continues to generate that 5 million 250 000 in property taxes and on the last slide uh for my part of the presentation in addition we would continue to make the payments under the existing intergovernmental agreement of approximately forty thousand dollars annually that number will fluctuate a little bit as the value of the property uh changes within tip number seven and over the remaining 11-year life of the Tiff we anticipate that the school district would see revenues of approximately four hundred and forty thousand dollars in addition to the new microtif tax dollars so those are pretty much the Salient points of the Redevelopment agreement and how that and how they impact um the school district uh I'd be happy to answer any questions that anybody may have relative to the to those items I have one question um so the so the timing of the 323 000 when would we expect to receive that probably around 2026 that as I mentioned um the bonds were anticipating issuing the bonds in calendar 23 and then that Pro that individual provision of the Redevelopment agreement takes place or kicks in two years after the issuance of the box okay just a couple of clarifying points uh the 5.25 million is not a cap it's not a ceiling we were very adamant that it had to be uh that as a minimum and that's why the provision of the RDA has them kicking in to get it back up to that level we needed that to make the math work to cover fully the bond service without impacting very important to the city of Aurora that we preserve our gaming tax revenues that we use for different opportunities to fund in the city of Aurora so we did not want Debt Service to erode off of our gaming tax and so it was a very significant achievement for us to have the casino and Penn gaming approve it uh just a real quick about the project itself before I turn it over to Trevor we're at close to 400 million dollar investment uh this is going to be a Las Vegas style Resort this is not simply going to be a casino that you see along the highway in Iowa or Michigan this is truly a comprehensive Resort uh there will be a minimum four-star hotel five restaurants a spa a significant event center and a state-of-the-art casino and as you know Penn is one of the top Casino companies in the world not just the the city of the United States and they made a significant acquisition of bar stool Sports so this will have a significant draw in the Chicago region in fact we firmly believe this will be become the number one Casino in the region and we'll wait to see what Chicago decides to do but as far as a Suburban location as a draw this we firmly believe this will exceed all projections and expectations so just wanted to lay that out to you as well and then I want to bring Trevor up Trevor up quickly to talk about kind of the site plan and some other things as part of the improvements that's the financial question before that yes sir I'm just wondering um what the impact is on the Aurora School District well um they're really you're talking about the Aurora School District where the casino is currently yeah so do you want to talk about what they're getting currently and then what the future may hold yeah um currently uh there is some property tax revenue that does in your uh to the benefit of the school district from that uh Casino site um the uh the school district um the plans are well let me the Redevelopment agreement actually um considers that once the new casino is up and moved into the new location the the developer will be responsible for removing the current casino and returning it to a developable state uh for the city so at that point there will likely be some sort of development on the uh on the existing Casino site and that would contribute to the property tax revenue for the school district in Aurora at that particular point in time which school district 131 131 but we have some significant significant plans in the works which we're not ready to publicly talk about yet for the site once it's restored back and the old casinos completely removed along right now the casino is going to operate while the construction begins so that's going to be approximately two years so it's going to be probably sometime in before that so again it's a timing thing because they're able to continue to operate the casino for as long as they can before they turn the lights off and start the wrecking ball so they want to time it so that they open up and lose as little time as possible that's in everyone's best interest s okay uh Paulie thank you okay so we had a very successful open house last week uh we had a lot of residents uh some board members and Tony were there um and uh was very positive uh informational Gathering session very well attended we had representatives of the city as well as the casino and a whole bunch of consultants and so I wanted to show you really quickly the illustrations that were shown at that open house the first drawing here is the site plan uh if you can visualize North being to the uh to the up top part of the screen that's Farnsworth running north south built her across the top Church Road in the back it's very difficult to see probably from where you're sitting but it's a color-coded map there's a legend essentially you'll see a 3D rendering at the end of my slides that I'll show you a little bit more but the purple is the casino there's great the darker gray is surface parking there's a 1700 space parking garage in the lighter gray the hotel well juts out on an angle there'll be five restaurants across the front as well as an event space that Alex mentioned for small concerts a mixed martial arts boxing things like that nature one thing that's really um in the new casinos now which I think I I personally like is now if you have a family or even if you don't like gambling you can access the restaurants the hotel the spa The Event Center without even stepping foot in the casino if you remember back in the day you'd have to go through the casino first and try and find all of that they've realized that really eliminates a lot of the visitors families Etc so this is going to be a very exciting site plan here if you go to the next slide Holly traffic and transportation was one of the biggest concerns we heard from the very beginning so we hired our consultant uh Penn hired their consultant we also have our own Public Works transportation department so the three of them work together on reviewing each other's work we have a very detailed traffic study it's very very thick and once again I apologize it's very probably difficult for you to see here but we looked at this part here for the transportation improvements adjacent to the site and so we've got where Farnsworth is going to be widened three lanes in each Direction with turn Lanes improved signals turn Lanes D cell Lanes we've also been working with the tollway they're going to open up that second off-ramp when you're going westbound to go north that was a coin only they're going to make that an iPass as well because they don't do the coin anymore so we'll have two ramps we're also considering a direct lane from that ramp directly into the LM mall so it would be a dedicated Lane which we think would also help a traffic flow so we're working on that so we've got a lot of great improvements for the area and then the next slide Holly built her road which is still in the Builder I'm sorry the Batavia School District we're also going to be winding this to four lanes so two lanes in each Direction a match what is existing on the west of Premium Outlet boulevards and to the east across the the bike trail one thing that we're including in our project is the design of a pedestrian bridge over builter so that that at grade bike crossing that's there right now can be a great separated Crossing for safety for bicyclists as well as pedestrians we think that's a great benefit to this whole project as well where to where is it going to get widened yes so if you see um I don't have a point I'm sorry but you see where the main premium Boulevard Drive comes up thank you Alex here comes my pointer go ahead Alex so um this is the Builder entry which you get into the outlet mall here that's Pepsi just the left so it will be widened uh where's Furniture so that's not quite on here but it's going to be widened all the way here all the way to um almost near DuPage Parkway almost almost towards the Earth yes so the city owns all this acreage here it's about 50 acres and so we're in the process of obviously acquiring the property necessary to widen Builder hopefully with a median and Trevor mentioned improvements on Farnsworth there's going to be a median as well on Farnsworth some restrictions from turning left which has backed up traffic in the past as cars were heading Northbound so we tried to not only look at the um Casino area itself but pull the lens back and look at impact north south east and west of the casino because remember 8 million visitors come to the most successful outlet mall one of them in the country so we were trying to Leverage the 8 million visitors with what we're doing at the casino and these Road expansions are going to happen concurrently with the construction of the casino so that hopefully they're when the casino opens the roads are done and it's outside that's the plane best late planes right correct because I'm just so the people that are living there I'm sure that's a concern for them is that uh correct correct thank you Alex you're a great pointer thank you you might want to stay up there just in case why we have a whole road that nobody sits in so and as Alex said Holly if you go to the next slide as Alex said instead of just looking at a typical development and just looking at the adjacent roadway and the signals as Alex said we pulled the lens back because we knew traffic and transportation was going to be so important to this project and so you can look at our traffic study we even looked at intersections south of I-88 for example and at each of these intersections there's recommendations if there's going to be projected traffic and what those improvements could be and so at the open house we talked to a lot of the residents who had a lot of questions and they seem to be very happy with the plan that we had to help make sure that we had great Transportation flow in the area okay next slide this here is the 3D rendering this is the current concept right now they are um their Architects are from Las Vegas we continue to work with them on literally sharpening their pencil but this is the vision for what this casino campus complex will look like you can see the parking garage on the left the casino in the middle and then the hotel on the right the hotel is Alex said earlier is a four-star hotel about a 225 room hotel with a spa the five restaurants are going to be some amazing restaurants that I don't know exactly which ones are going to be at but the casino is very excited about the people they're talking to of course the parking garage on the bottom left as well can I ask how many jobs is this going to generate well that's a great question and uh so close to was it 1500 permanent jobs 1500 or maybe 2 000 permanent jobs and I used to I used to have a guesstimate for the construction jobs but it's it's a very significant number and it's a two-year project and we believe them that'll be tweeters because they want to get this open and running as well so we're very excited that's Holly I think that's the last picture um but once again I just wanted to give you a highlight of the renderings that we showed at the open house we also if you have any other questions that maybe I didn't talk about or if you think about it later after tonight on the Aurora Hollywood casino's website you can go there and they have an FAQ a frequently asked questions they have about 29 questions and answers of the commonly asked questions that we've received over the last year since we've been planning this so that's another great resource if you have any questions after tonight questions I actually have a question for Alderman Warman yes I know the Tiff micro tip has to be approved I know you can't see the teachers you don't the city doesn't anticipate any problems getting that approved we actually if I could speak into that and we actually I want to say you did it I'm sorry we first introduced it under mayor Irvin's Administration starting in 2017 and all the micro tips we've used have been spectacular successes one of the benefits of a micro tip is it's a very focused limited uh scope so you're not unnecessarily encumbering other properties like the old application of a large Tiff so the micro tip really is targeted to a project so if you come to downtown Aurora for example the former School District 129 West Aurora headquarters which was in downtown that was a microtiff and it was slated to be torn down so it is a very successful apartment building in Downtown Aurora market rate apartment right on the river um give me another microtip oh I can't forget the former Copley Hospital anybody that's familiar with Aurora knows far east side the old Copley Hospital was basically a cancer on on the east side of Aurora and through the Strategic use of microtiff finding the right Development Group use of historic tax credits I won't bore you with all the details 116 million dollar Redevelopment and I encourage all of you to go and see the new bloomhaven campus it includes Western Bridges which is a very pioneering not many in the country maybe less than 10 uh living for persons with cognitive and other disabilities along with senior living that they just opened there's also going to be a new health clinic in the back in the community a Fox Valley Park District park with a splash pad beautiful walking path all because we micro tipped it and that leveraged a lot of opportunity financially for incentives so we're very proud of that and you know tiffs get a bad name rightfully so in some areas of Illinois because they were not used properly we don't do that in the city of Aurora that was my question because I know they are controversial in circles they are when they're used a general area the wrong way and someone else will develop it but a specific and remember Chris mentioned the increment the eye and Tiff the increment is what really drives the ability to put these millions of dollars together to create these projects which otherwise would not have happened and so we had a decision to make in downtown Aurora and as a city this was not a referendum on gaming uh that happened 30 plus years ago when they decided to put the casino there this was really a simple choice if the casino remained in downtown given its declining performance it would have ultimately gone away so it was move or leave it where it is and none of us wanted a a white elephant building that we would get stuck with and so this really was a win-win and I think this is certainly a tremendous opportunity for the Batavia school district and as we appreciated your support from the outlet mall we very much look forward to your support on this important project so stay tuned exciting things ahead and I'm sure no one's gonna mind that eight or nine hundred percent that was not a uh a typo on there that was a pretty uh pretty healthy increase and I know you'll put that money to good use any other questions thank you for the presentation thank you thank you appreciate your service we have a copy of it do you mind if we share it across the board members of this presentation it's up to you guys no problem it's a public document that's what I thought you were going to say thank you okay and we're available for any questions afterwards and we appreciate Tony participating too thank you appreciate it thank you foreign policy reading yep we do have one more report and it is policy so in um Illinois most every school board belongs to the Illinois Association of school boards and one of the great benefits is that we pay an annual fee of 750 to get advice on policy at any time the legislature meets and makes a decision it probably touches there's an example on this policy report it probably touched 10 different policies and so they have a group of attorneys and advisors and volunteer Educators that meet and go through all of the school code and make sure that they'll tell us here's that we get a press report you can log into iasb and see it at any time I don't have if you're having trouble sleeping it's a great document to read but they give us four a year so they take all of the changes and give us four ports a year and it then once those reports come in our hands it says here's all the changes here's why we're making the changes then we go and we look at our policy sometimes we have homegrown policies so we have to figure out how to marry the two and so then our cabinet Senior Management cabinet look through all of those recommendations and bring the ones that make sense to your attention so you always read policies twice so this is your first reading and then you can look it over if you had a question tonight great otherwise you can let us know in the meantime if you have questions and we'll bring it back for discussion at the next meeting those are policies those are like your rules and your laws and the way that our district is governed and then there are procedures that go along with it and those don't require board approval press also makes recommended procedures so if the legislature says we have to do an employee history review an EHR real simple just ask every single place that this person has ever worked if they had any misconduct and then it's a Well intended but now we have to change 10 policies plus we have to put procedures together to actually Implement that so that's why you see a lot of changes to procedures here that Steve and his department will have to implement because now we have to um talk to every employer basically of every person that we hire and ask for records and then it's two ways so also if somebody has ever worked for us we have to be able to communicate with their new employer and so there's a lot of different procedures on how we're going to implement that so those are called administrative procedures we show them to you if you don't have any questions we go ahead and Implement them and Exhibits are like it could be a sample letter that we use or the the two that are on here are the exhibit here's the list of everything that we have to put on our website that we have to make available to the public so those are called exhibits that is a history lesson on iasb policy and the when we use the word press we try as much as we can to align with press because otherwise we're needing to consult our own attorneys and like I said this is 750 for a year for all of this expert advice on how to align our policy with the school code so um you have this policy report I don't know if you have any questions now or if you want to look through it and bring me questions that we could talk about next time I'd entertain either right now any questions I think when I was a brand new board member you gave me a binder this thick and said go off and read us your recommendations so I appreciate you guys doing the hard work this time yeah you're welcome this this so the the just the summary of all the changes we have to make um and then the the red line versions is 177 pages long for this issue of press and we get that usually four times a year so and this one's actually short sometimes they could be 300 pages that we have to go through and and so that's why we try to always align with press because it makes that review easier because our red line would match their Red Line when we do a homegrown policy um like for example we had one on an instructional materials but now we have three different policies that talk about instructional materials which is why we're doing a little cleanup here so we could just match press because it's confusing which one is the board's policy if it's in three different policies so we try to stay depressed whenever possible all right any further questions all right next are items for Action curriculum contracts Brad I believe I miscategorized this and it should have been in the consent agenda because these are existing oops contracts that we have with either testing agencies or subscription services that we have used for a number of years you can see the report there about nwea who does our map testing formative which is an online platform that quickly grades assessments and then Naviance which is both a tool for building career awareness and also getting kids looking at colleges so that's the portal for that those are three R contracts that we'll renew for next year as you said earlier this is a good example of one of those things that would be in a consent agenda because it's a regularly occurring it's a regularly occurring so you need to explain it every year okay but I appreciate you taking the time to explain it this year any questions I guess I do have one question like these type of situations um would we know are these increases from what we previously paid and then your your thoughts on whether if it is an increase is it acceptable yeah we take a look at those costs every year everything goes up every year so most of these contracts are up um about two to three thousand dollars from the previous year so that is um about the going rate for those when subscriptions become too costly we do really evaluate that because our budget isn't unlimited and there's always a well of Need for subscription Services when I started this job 13 years ago it was maybe like a pretty small percentage of my budget that we spend on subscriptions and now it's uh I would say it's a huge part of the curriculum and instruction budget is to make sure that we have access to all of these tools so it's growing own exponentially over the past 10 years we try and maintain consistency so teachers get used to having access to certain tools but also minding sometimes they go up like exorbitant rates people do different like ways that they charge for that whether it's per student per site and sometimes they make a shift that we don't find acceptable and other times vendors don't keep up their product in terms of safety in terms of student data safety or the product itself becomes really stale over time or teachers are asking for a change too sometimes so any other questions I would just say like something like that IXL is something you've used for years yeah we've used that I think six or seven years yeah and the Naviance I know is something they they've also used for quite a few years too that just provide consistency I think is important too but okay with that I would entertain a motion to approve the one-year contract estimates to IXL annual license in the amount of forty thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars Northwest evaluation Association and a WEA for forty seven thousand two hundred and fifty four dollars formative for forty one thousand 762.49 and PowerSchool slash Naviance for twenty nine thousand four hundred eighty four dollars and fifty three cents if you air Andrew yeah okay all right all in favor all right any opposed hearing none motion carries thank you great um the next uh part of the agenda I just took overview sorry is Administrative comments so it is my turn um and I have a couple tonight first of all just a quick celebration Amy Nelson breakfast here last week and she invited all of those Community um organizations that help provide services for our students and families and there were just so many specific examples shared of um you know they outfitted a dorm room for a student who needed or a college apartment for someone who needed it to food um security rent payments things like that in every organization that was invited just had the opportunity to share about some of the great things they were doing it was a great celebration chip in United Way uh the Batavia Mothers Club Chapel Street Food Pantry um couple other a couple others from the ministerial Saint Vincent De Paul many different groups that just step in when we have a family that needs something and um the way it was said is they they won the lottery if they moved to Batavia if they're a family in need because there are people who will step up and hope so that was a great celebration and thank you to all those Community groups um also for my comments tonight I wanted to talk about upcoming board meetings we have a couple extra board meetings um the next one is next Wednesday we have it on the calendar for a 5 PM special meeting to talk about negotiations hopefully approving uh the new vea contract at that meeting on May 31st we have our regular meeting on June 20th on June 27th we have Tom Kim who's here hiding in the back row who will be joining you all for a very special board workshop and I know you have a lot of thing I know I know so iasb will be helping you yeah exactly um I uh Laura Martinez who is a Batavia parent but also your field director for the Illinois Association of school boards will come and facilitate that meeting and she'll talk about what it means to be a board of education and that is just the kickoff of you guys thinking about strategy and your leadership and um like I already mentioned once uh you know strategic planning is really something that would be that need you need to jump into and a couple examples I already shared the example of um like coming up with we can't do everything so let's look to the Committees and look to the staff and the administration and say what are some of the big things that the board should be focused on and you guys set that tone and say these are our priorities and you have that work coming up um another example of something that this we need to talk about we'll put it on the agenda for June but the referendum so we need to Circle back and start thinking at a high level what the next steps are really in November it was close people told us put it back on the ballot we didn't understand the question we put the question back on the ballot people didn't necessarily love that we put the same question back on the ballot they um it did not pass in April when we put it back on um but we definitely had people's attention we definitely communicated it so we can interpret the no vote to say this wasn't the right plan so what do we do next this plan has been in the works since 2017 and so we need to think of a different strategy as a board so we can put we can start that discussion at the June meeting but that is really something that'll be ongoing over the next few months as we think about a strategy because our facility needs um our facility needs are real you just got an email today from somebody wanting you to talk about our facilities and and it's it's valid we do have needs in our facilities and then maybe an upcoming Topic at one of those meetings could also be tips because you um heard quite a a great presentation today but they're not the only Tiff in town so maybe Tony can talk through again just that background for everybody what is a tiff but also what tiffs are live within our district and what does it mean to as a fun exciting agenda item at some upcoming meeting we're going to pair it right with Comprehensive annual report that it'll just keep everybody Wide Awake yeah those are my updates unless anybody has questions or comments for me about any upcoming topics all right I've seen that the board comments are next Sue since we've arranged everything I was going to start at that end and congratulations you put yourself into it I'm going to let you start I'm going to be short and sweet congratulations to all the graduates I hope everyone has a wonderful summer that's it you could have talked just a little bit about it I have some notes so sure I'll take I'll take some time congratulations to all of our 2023 graduates um I wish all the best of luck on their future endeavors um also thinking about the students who are moving from elementary to Rotolo and from rotello to BHS one of them is my daughter who is moving on from Storm I know I'm like she's my she's my oldest so um a lot of us are pretty emotional but I we have had such an amazing experience I still have my son who is in Kinder currently so we get to enjoy them for a lot longer but they really did an amazing job over the last six years and just getting her ready for the next step so um sad but really excited um you know we're really fortunate to have some amazing Educators and staff members um really at every level in our district there's one in particular that I do want to shout out to Amber jursa was recognized I don't know if everyone I'm sure we've all seen the different communication but um last weekend she went down to Bloomington Normal at the Illinois State Board of Education so those who excel in Teacher of the Year banquet um so there she was recognized and celebrated as the um North suburbs Regional teacher of the year so I mean that's that's a pretty huge deal I think she was one out of 12 finalists and I don't know that we've ever had video be a finalist so I mean that's huge um so I was really you know excited to see that and just it really brings it back and I think it's a great time for us all to grow together and hopefully I'm sure we're going to have more to come and that's really exciting um and just speaking of that I mean she was there with different um you know ISB board members and the um IES president and ie directors so it's just really a great opportunity um I think probably for her and a lot of other Educators they spend so much of their time caring and pouring into everyone else that it's like if you're celebrated it's kind of it doesn't sink in right so I just want to recognize her because she is amazing and I don't think that just like so many other teachers and staff members I know they just they will hear the Pats but I mean truly it's amazing and so it really speaks for our district and how fortunate we are so I just want to take a moment to recognize her as well as all of our awesome other staff members um I also wanted to say next week kicks off pride month so happy pride month and um I hope that everyone no matter if they're going on trips they're staying around whether it's a summer of survival or picking up another job that there are times just like Todd speaking of Todd just being able to take some time and pockets for ourselves so that we can come back in August a little renewed ready to grow together and really ready to go edit I have comments as well so I want to thank everyone who attended the meeting tonight including the city of Aurora for that detailed presentation I learned a lot and I appreciate them answering all our questions and even though we didn't have any open comment tonight I do want to thank everybody who attended meetings this year shared their thoughts everyone who sends us an email everyone who meets us on the street and shares thoughts or concerns or praise I just want to tell people that you are heard we do listen it does help Drive our discussions and it really is essential for us to figure out where the district needs to move to so I know we asked the community really engage this year and I do want to thank everybody who participated in that process and like my colleagues to my ride do want to talk about commencement it's tomorrow night at Northern I believe it's the 152nd time the Batavia High School will hold a commencement ceremony for the class of 2023.

so we were lucky to actually see that here we are again doing our favorite activity shopping but we shopped in a very specific Market the indigenous the largest indigenous Market called otavalo and as you can tell we actually the whole experience we had to bar again which was a really good experience right the guide explained to us how to do the bargaining so all of this of course and espanol right in the language so that was a good experience and I know I heard so many kids come and say hey you know what I got that shirt for 10 bucks so yeah looks just like our shops yeah but it's outdoors and we have like the Olympian you know brain I mean incredible designers yeah right that day yes we're littering your bags do we have there exactly yeah a lot of stuff for the classroom okay oh yeah yeah yeah but this picture doesn't do it justice I actually adjusted it I thought it was going to be a live Google slide just there are pictures of the market the whole market and it's just shop after shop of handmade crafts that that base this is their library and so it's quite amazing this is um it was quite an experience for everybody to use their skills and a lot of them couldn't even communicate in Spanish or actually um that our guy told us about this volcano he mentioned that it was acted you can tell that was that's not a cloud that wasn't there when we first got to the airport it was just doing that so I mean it was pretty unique to just be sitting at the airport and just see that happen is really cool the name of this volcano is is one of the highest volcanoes in Ecuador [Music] um to get to our hotel we had to take a plane to a bus to a boat to a bus to a boat and then walk down some some little path so I mean yeah I don't know if you can tell but it was very hot patience yeah a lot of patients yes okay so anybody's planting so he actually got invited to go grab some trees uh course like Sanctuary kind of place there's giant words that just running around everywhere um and we got to they had these little saplings all ready for us so they were already like holes stuck on the ground and we got to go like pick a hole and plant a tree like to make a little more yeah and we were invited to come back in 20 years right that's what they said we actually will have some food or something okay and all right that's why I had to go outside [Music] and they swim very fast yeah are those ones who bite and have boys okay tons of different species so we get to learn you know ends up in this um creatures right so many of them don't exist anywhere else in the world oh I want to talk about this okay so there are sea lights right yeah so there were sea lions everywhere just everywhere we would walk by them they would be like three inches from our feet they were everywhere and it was so everybody else that lives there was so casual about them and I thought it was really funny like they think of them like we think of squirrels you know but these are massive hundreds of pounds of animals so I I just they're just you got a report that somebody tried to bring one home on a plane racing for the pool right they take over the benches really they are they're just like right there so you know sit down with no there's a skill there so yeah oh so many times we saw some of them on a rock when you're on a boat there are a whole bunch of them there so this is a picture then unique to the God by no silence okay so when we're scuba diving we actually saw a giant manta ray it was like really big oh Stingray actually and I thought it was a robin but it's like it was really big and then we also saw little manta rays those were just swimming around like when we were shopping in that area sounds Santa Cruz yeah so they have like this little pier like he looked over there were like a bunch of little manta rays and yeah they were just kind of scattered around right scuba diving um snorkeling [Laughter] how big was it I wasn't lucky I I didn't yeah we didn't get to cinema they were ridiculous thing they were just so close to us that that's what made it really unique yes very fast you know there was a very very best everything I was just talking about this little bus there we go it's the sides are open uh so it's like open air this benches yeah they don't have AC ID so it was really nice to check so we're traveling and one of the main ghosts we took right to go places yeah [Music] Santa Cruz is the Galapagos were basically where uh Charles garment interior Evolution so they have a station here of that depending elsewhere foreign yeah if I didn't try everybody's try that one was that I do it let's do that fish and we had it I think just about every single day once you're going to Galapagos and this is one of the last pictures one last day the sand is really really almost remarkable sure Guys Wilson and they treated us really well he was with us from the moment we landed till the moment we left and he was sad and it was just such a bunch that is also a that's one of the experiences that's really bond that is created between and moving on a person from the country in order you know he was obviously bilingual and explained to the students sometimes in Spanish sometimes in English and just made you know a really special memories and this is a quote that we saw at the Charles Darwin Center curiosity leaders leads us down the path and I really like this quote because obviously in Canton High School one of the pillars of education at the high school the three pillars is collaboration perseverance and curiosity and I think you know bringing students through other places is really just doing that making them curious about the World opening their eyes to different things and I really think when you see them when you hear them speak about their their testimony for this trip that your eyes right and to a different world right completely different in different languages different foods and then on the other side also is the the experience of being together with your peers for one week you know sharing you know a room and you know just having to deal with you know um waiting for a long time maybe in airports you know uh playing cards which you guys did you know you did a great job at that being very patient because of the delays we had um but so I don't know in conclusion I don't know if anybody has anything else to add I would like to know from from the four of you what's what's one of the greatest takeaways that you're you left Ecuador with something that you didn't know when you arrived but you're leaving with one thing I guess mine sorry um my first one like the first thing that comes to mind is just a new view I mean these are people I've grown up with that I've spent years with but I've never grown close to them and being physically close to them for the trip really helped me with that so it's just a new view on experiences with people that you might not be friends with but you know no because of you know being physically thank you I just found it super interesting to be like another country and to be able to be like immersed in a different culture thank you um I couldn't do really agree with the Christian um I think he was a real New View for everyone especially being able to travel so young with so many of your good friends as opposed to like with one other person or your parents like I think it was just really unique and giving people being able to like experience the culture but that was really um eye of the day uh I thought it was cool to actually like put Spanish like into action because we've been practicing that for like five years and never really had the chance to actually speak to like people who actually speak that as a native language so being able to like bargain with people or just like have a conversation was pretty cool thank you all and this is sabrizi and this is Shaq the work that goes on behind the scenes to arrange a trip like this and the work that you had to do quickly when they when we couldn't go to Peru you moved within 24 hours to arrange this and trips like this wouldn't happen without the two of you and I've had the pleasure and will always remember of my years as superintendent of traveling very unique with you to Costa Rica one of the highlights one of the highlights of my 17 years here and Andrea you've come to join the Canton Public Schools and we're so thrilled that you have with your passion and enthusiasm um thank you for allowing our students to have this opportunity thank you all thanks for being here we are definitely hoping to continue you know to travel you know so for many more years okay so yeah thank you all keep up the great work thank you thank you so much [Applause] okay without further Ado I'd like to uh just in case information so it's our pleasure this evening to be here at um Canton Intermediate School and um what's really wonderful in the setup tonight is that we're facing this wonderful wonderful mural that was put together by our Canton Intermediate School community in the greater uh Community as well it's a beautiful mosaic and um it just represents the culture and climate here at Canton Intermediate School which are outstanding leader Mrs Rebecca Cortel has worked hard to establish over the last few years so tonight we'll be able to hear about the great work that's happening here and Mrs Porto will talk about some of the goals that we're accomplished this year among many other things so thanks Rebecca for for being here and thank you for your patience as you run a little bit later on our agenda tonight no problem thank you I was joking with a couple of people that I think I will forever hope that this meeting is scheduled for here at school the same week that we have our art show because it's it's pretty cynical the amount of work that's discussed you with parent volunteers setting up so that every student has a piece of art on this slide but um before you leave pop your head into the gym it's very impressive I wanted to start and I'm going to close also with a quote that actually goes in our mural that was written in collaboration by several of our students and we developed three different quotes that we wanted to be the theme of our mural and then our students all voted in what they determined to be our theme for their mural and the inspiration for our mural was at CIS we grow like Rising Stars we grow as students Learners creative thinkers and friends with positive character um so if that doesn't embody what we're trying to do as CFS I don't know what else would but that was like I said crafty buyer students um this evening I'm excited to be able to share with you some of our achievements and our proud moments that we've had at school this year um it was certainly a year not without its challenges but I'm I'm incredibly proud of what our teachers and what our students were able to accomplish so thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share with you some of those proud moments um so a reminder of what our continuous Improvement plans set out to achieve when I shared it with you in the fall ultimately all of the work that being outlined in our goal advances our strategic thing and falls into this year two primary areas we have an academical and we have two climate related goals this was our academic goal I'm very much focused on growth so we had two kind of benchmarks and goals that we said for ourselves and the first are that students who are at grade level in the fall would remain at grade level at different points when we assess them I'm going to be sharing winter data which was collected in January review so that means that students are growing and they're staying on that trajectory to be able to gain a Year's worth of growth and value over the course of the year our second goal was that for those students who in the fall were not at benchmark we don't want them to just stay on the trajectory of gaining one year worth of growth but we hope that they have accelerated learning then they end the year closer to if not at Benchmark closer to Benchmark with the work that they and their teachers do together so room of students who are at Benchmark in the wall they don't always reach Benchmark by this spring um our goal is that they make more than one year's worth of growth and we can do that over multiple years then they eventually won't even work so that's why we're focused on that accelerated growth for our true academic goals so we'll start with math I recognize that it can be challenging without the pre-test data that we do collect and kind of see where the growth is when we look at the top chart of the post assessment scores but I include that here because when we have conversations about students and we are determining do we need intervention plans for students and if they are in need of some small group instruction we need to use multiple points of data for that and one of those points is our curricular assessments so this is kind of the chart that we would start at that's the biggest most Broad View that we would look at um and from there we would drill down to which standards our students struggling with and that would inform what type of bridges intervention we're going to be doing what volume and what module will we be starting up for a student um we then move on to our star assessments these are our Universal assessments to be complete in the fall in the winter and in the spring and a reminder that when for example in grade four we had 64 percent of our students who are at Benchmark for either the bottom is The Benchmark or the further grade equivalency those are two ways that the data is reported to us from a star four months later we would want to see 64 percent of our students at minimum still meeting what our Benchmark is at that time so anytime we can see an increase of 9 or 14 that means that students who are at Benchmark remain there and then we've accelerated growth and more students are where we want them to be for you four months later um minimum we want to see that we're maintaining the numbers as we see like in fifth grade with 62 62 that doesn't show that there's a lack of growth it means that they grew on the trajectory that we moved on them to be in the remaining Adventure the thing what I'll do is maybe give me an opportunity to ask questions as I go through because each page of data can be a little bit heavy so is there any question about the math I'll move on it's not that we don't have questions it's just we're waiting we'd like to see how it progresses and I think you're because this is winter data and now as we go through the spring your your September October presentation is going to be yeah and then really tell the table that is a challenge because so the data was collected in September and January so we're talking we're looking at four year four months where did it grows right um said it is data that we use we have February data team meetings where we're designing plans for students and we have April that a team meetings we're looking to see if those fans that we created in February were impressive but I do see the need for that that big picture um one of the other data points that we look at it can be difficult sometimes for us to gather is the mobility and so when we talk about accelerated growth it's really worth looking for students who can jump from one band to another they're not at Benchmark the other categories we might have students there on watch on the intervention plan intervention bands and an urgent intervention a student who's following a trajectory of meeting one year's worth of growth would stay in that band each time they're assessed so a student on water will remained on watch both in January when we assessed them and then again our hope is that students who aren't at Benchmark are able to jump up and dance and that's what this attorney shows us um so you know for years we've been going through the binders and looking at students and kind of charting it for ourselves this year using LinkedIn which mrisha Mr key to bringing to the district of this board supported um just very quickly to have to have a little bit more of the working with teachers on the plan and so what we see here is the mobility of those students so in in grade four for example percent of our students who are on watch in the fall they moved up to Benchmark by the winter so these are the numbers when I'm talking percent of our students taking accelerated growth this is the drug that I look at um in addition to that we had 31 of our students in the area met alone were an intervention to actually went up two levels so that's not just accelerated growth that's incredibly safe that's a big jump those students went right to Benchmark and six percent of our students who are in the Urgent intervention band those are our most struggling most vulnerable Learners I'm also we've had such steep accelerated growth the bottom chart is also showing Mobility data but that's looking at sustained acceleration comparing last winter to this winter it's covering right around you know the 33 35 of students making accelerating growth moving from abandon to below Benchmark to abandons either Adventure benchmark [Laughter] [Music] a green band is looking at where our current fifth graders last year as fourth graders where they were compared to now were they over 100 years so it's comparing whole words [Music] it is more simplest form though wondering over the course of this year are our students growing we rely on our skills scores and also on our quantiles so these show purely this year's students grade four in the fall where their median score was in grade four in the winter and you can see with each of the grade levels then there is growth from fall to winter and there are still sort of sports comparisons and the white bar there shows their goal would be so in each of these not only are we starting but angle when we last assessed we had Insurance growth I was still exceeding and the same pattern holds when we look at quantile so quantile scores that those quantile scores correlate with the concepts that a student is ready to learn so the higher a quantile score the more complex skill or More Concept students are ready to master and ready to learn so this graph shows the median quantile growth for each grade from the fall to the winter in the white line or in some cases the Blue Line shows what gold was so for example in grade four the goal for the fall of grade four is the juantado scored 540 our median score for our fourth graders versus 355.

I have a daughter who's a junior so I will know many of those children and um I can tell you that our community is proud of you we love you and we're excited to see where your lives lead and what you will accomplish but I can tell you if you need us we are still going to be here supporting you cheering you on and I want to wish their the graduates and their families the families are you know to get to that road is a lot as someone has three kids um so congratulations to all of them and then since commencement is a natural time of reflection I would like to say thank you to a few more folks starting with our board secretary Cindy Rodriguez I want to thank Cindy for her hard work this was her first year as the board secretary I'm sure she had a lot to learn and I just want to thank her for her hard work her responsiveness her diligence um you know you always help us do our work efficiently even in old dinosaur like me who has to print out paper documents of maybe a few hours before meeting so I want to thank you Cindy for all you do to support the board and our work and then just to the greater BPS community so I want to start by thanking superintendent Dr Hitchens I see Tony got a new name plank so now I'll say doctor in Glacier Dr Newkirk Steve uh Pierce Holly beachman and everybody who works here at rosly Jones for their hard work I want to thank my fellow board members Raquel Danielle Rob Craig RJ and sue for stepping up to serve our community and I also want to recognize outgoing members Kathy Dremel Aaron meitzer and Chris low for all their hard work this year and for their previous years of service and then I especially want to thank our people on the front lines our hard-working principals and administrative teams of course our teachers our paraprofessionals our aides counselors the support staff our coaches our nurses and trainers maintenance and custodial staff food service and transportation teams all the parent volunteers whether it be a PTO a booster or just helping out any way you can at your local school that your kids attend and also of course all the local businesses and service organizations that support our school I mean it really is a community effort and we are so fortunate to have so many people that are willing to engage and help our families and kids and then of course just everybody who keeps keeps helps keep our students safe dry and comfortable sometimes I think we take that for granted but if you don't have those Baseline things covered it's really hard to learn and I just want everybody who knows that contributes to anything that every one of you is essential and every one of you is seen and appreciated so thank you for your work and then finally I just want to thank the parents and the BPS 101 Community as a man and a family that we have three children my wife Kathy and I have three children we can't do it ourselves and we rely on our friends neighbors and our community to help raise our children and um together you know I think we're doing an amazing job and tomorrow we'll sort of be like a nice exclamation point to the job our community is and then finally in that at least I want to thank my wife for allowing me to serve on the school board it does take me away from my family it is important work I believe and I do enjoy the work but without her support uh I could not do this and she might be watching tonight so Kathleen thank you for that and with that I just want to say thank you and I hope everyone has a relaxing and safe summer all right so uh I'm gonna first start off by calling out the sixth grade science teachers at Rotolo particularly this was spearheaded by Deb Nelson and she got the Estes which is a rocket company to actually come out and build 200 rockets for the sixth grade students and they kind of had like a a barrier that was like okay that's the moon and they helped launch rockets to see how you know the altitude and that they could reach the moon and so forth which um you know she got grants and everything so they built 200 rackets basically for free and they launched them and so she was part of the stem program but um so it's Deb Nelson Julie singenberger Jody um uh yes thank you Jody stoneberg and then Sam Wigley so they were all there and they helped do that um so just that's I think that's pretty great they bring into bringing stemming back into the schools and then uh lastly just to the class of 2023 congratulations best of luck in your future endeavors and like they said if you ever need anything you can always come back and we're here to help thank you jumps over me [Laughter] um so uh uh once again congratulations to the graduates uh 2023 graduates I will say I hope you guys have a little better weather tomorrow night than we did last year because it was an absolute downpour leaving uh the ceremony so I'm sure some of you remember that thank you to the teachers and support staff for all your relaxing summer and recharge and get ready to get back at it in August um thank you to Steve Brad and Tony they met with me over the last few weeks uh put up with uh probably a lot of dumb questions for myself just trying to learn a little bit about how their organizations run some of the processes that we use so appreciate the information guys and I do know that uh we got a lot of challenges but uh you three gentlemen are the right people to help us get through them so thank you um I feel like I've got some negative things so I'm sorry uh positives and negatives so first of all I'm really happy to hear we're going to talk about the referendum again I had the positive and happy experience to go to storm Stampede which is HD Storm's field day that was a lot of fun I ran the fling section where you fill in your shoe so it was surprising how many shoes went backwards but the kids did really good about saving each other um the sad part about that was seeing the cones that had to be used to prop the doors open because the need of the facility so that's all that's I don't mean I don't need to be negative I'm sorry I need you to be positive after me I will be so um the the casino is amazing and I'm so excited about that and obviously the revenue sounds great but I'm having a really hard time um it you know acknowledging or I don't want to to have all this excitement with the loss of Revenue that's going to come at the expense of the children at the Aurora schools um so I think I'm gonna probably dig into that a little bit more just get some more information on exactly how that all happened because I would assume that um losing 200 300 000 a year towards school districts is or if they're even at five million dollars a year which is is that what we were told we're going to be at some point so if they're losing that much revenue for their schools I could only imagine what their situation is right now um all happy here grads congratulations I look forward to being at the graduation tomorrow but sad because I'm going to my daughter's fifth grade celebration tomorrow and I'm probably gonna cry but that will be I don't know something I'll be sad and happy at the same time and then last we're all talking about summer and all the breaks that everyone's getting but I do want to remember or remind everyone for us that you know we are going to be having more meetings probably the summer than we've had in the last couple months so thank you to all of all of you all of us thank you to us thanks thanks to me um I know I'm really excited I'm really grateful that you all are willing to do this because I know it took a while for us yeah the summer so I'm really happy and proud of us that we're going to be getting some things done before the new school year starts take it away okay I am just going to keep it short and sweet because in the past Kathy would stand up here and say I can't say anything to add to these sorts of things but you won't know me so I'm gonna just Barrel through it a bit um no I am this is a big year for me in particular just because my youngest is graduating tomorrow so he today went to Grace McWane and stood up there with some of his best buds that he met in kindergarten are still some of his best buds now so that's very excited I guarantee I will be crying just hopefully not during the speech tomorrow I want to say as a husband to a speech pathologist in a school district sort of a teacher that you know you're at the midpoint of the year and you're going you can make it you'll do this you'll get there it'll be great and now they're at the end you guys this is your home stretch I pass along to the teachers and the staff and the custodians and everybody else that we appreciate all of the hard work that they have done for the entire year and whatever break that they decide to give themselves over the next couple of months because they don't all get to take a break for the entire summer so that please take what you can and enjoy what you can but we really appreciate all the effort everybody puts um lastly to our former fellow board members I'm very excited particularly about the three of you that are joining us I'm getting to know you guys over the past couple of weeks I'm looking forward to it again and particularly the kind of new kind of jolt of energy and excitement and things to look forward to taking care of and and what we can accomplish as a group is very exciting to me so that is all of my comments that I have for tonight so thank you very much um going to then move on and say I would entertain a motion to adjourn to a closed session for the reason of collective negotiations matters between a public body and its employees are the representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees so moved so moved by AJ and Sue and second by Sue all in favor aye any opposed motion carries

incredible amount of growth between the fall and the winter in our fourth grade class and they're now exceeding what the goal is so a lot of hard work on the part of the teachers and of our fourth grade students we're not as far off in the beginning of fall for fifth grade and then we see again growth to exceed in both Fitness it was by the time we had our wedding dresses what would you what do you attribute that deficit to is that still covered or is it switching schools or I think it's probably a combination of both of those things these are fourth graders were significantly impacted by the distance learning I think that what this graph shows us is it's not for a lack of ability to learn because in four quick months they were able to go from pretty well below to exceeding part of it could be summer part of it could be transitioning into the year I think that I'm happy to see is when I look at like summerslide between our grades when we don't have that transition that students are maintaining their skills I'm not sure exactly without probably having more years worth of dad as you know we always start that loud for a great confidence a steep amount of progress was it like that last year that's my I'm not sure and so I think without being able to look at that I've had a difficult time in 2020 exactly what it was we do know that some of our students the transition was challenging for them this year into fourth grade again not an inability to learn by any means this was also their first year taking this assessment too so we we saw that a movement and chairman as well it was their first year this year again so being able to connect with an assessment to be able to understand how to be able to interact with it let's take a little bit higher a little bit of time to follow interesting to see what it is next what do you think too this fourth grade they were shut down in first grade and then second and third grade they're curriculum although the teachers were teaching math relaxed manipulatives this small group partnership the workers a lot of that math programming is interactive and Hands-On materials and that was not the case with kova so like the curriculum although it was taught maybe it wasn't the implemented to Fidelity right and I mean we experienced the same thing here you know every student had their own packet of manipulatives moving them into our language arts data we're focused on our reading level and then again on our star assessments um so the same thing holds at minimum we're looking to see students maintaining their skills in the same percentage of students at Benchmark in the winter as there are in the fall and anywhere where we can see growth means that students are that much closer to um foreign Mobility here um just about a third of our students not at Benchmark in the fall showed accelerated growth by the winter 11 of our students that were at in prevention skipped up two levels and what I think is pretty remarkable and a testament to our special education teachers and our reading tutors 15 of our students who are in that urgent intervention band in the fall skipped up two levels and had really steep accelerated growth when they were reassessed just four months later in January so we and then the bottom chart shows actually higher levels of sustained acceleration in the area of reading and being kind in math what I will say though is when we look at this data in data teams both in ela Mobility data and the math Mobility data in February our data teams immediately go to the students who didn't make that accelerated group we celebrate for a few minutes those who did but then we're going back to the action plan created back in September and October when they saw who wasn't at Benchmark and we look at those plans and for some students those plans are working and so the goal now for the rest of the year is to maintain that to see if we can continue with the acceleration and for those students that it's not working we're revising spend a half day on one of our PD days working with the Department leader and with each other from plans what are our action steps and the students are outside of the classroom working with a tutor but what are we going to do for those students when they're in our classrooms we had about 50 students of concern in February in the area of math and in ela despite having that really remarkable accelerating growth we still had 73 kids that we were worried about in each of those 73 kids had an action plan designed by their teachers so that we could be trying something new and something different between you know January February and April and May to try to keep moving moving kids along we so we use quantile measures in math we are a Lexile more complex in text a student is able to read so again here we're comparing just the growth the median growth in those Lexile scores same grade same cohort from the fall to the winter with that white bar being where our goal is so we're starting and ending our benchmarking from all the winter exceeding gold for Lexile but seeing really nice consistent growth between fourth and sixth grade all the way up Rebecca who sets the uh the goal the start of the goal is that you as the principal or you say this is my expectation yeah how's that established um for Lexile and quantile are um Norm reference those are standardizing others so they set their goals and the next chart shows a cohort growth by lifestyle just I was interested in okay so if we're looking at the median Lexile for a grade we've only done this now for a couple of years so I don't have a tremendous amount of data but how has our current fifth graders over two years we have fall winter and spring from last year and now I have fallen winter from this year so I have enough data points to really kind of look at over that two-year picture what is that cohorts a growth trajectory look like and that's here for both fifth and sixth grade so you'll see from the beginning of last year fall through to the most recent winter assessments each of the grades increasing in their media and Lexile of score and all the way through exceeding what our goal would be so I'm still confused on the setting the goal when you say they set the goal are they setting it recently are they descending it by the state of Connecticut they say by a durg I mean how does that vegetables Norm reference those are standardized National goals and I would imagine National goals are I mean because you're you're homogenizing from coast to coast those expectations to me would seem to be we should be able to hit or receive I think it's fair for us to set our goals and expect Ed it's interesting here fourth graders or way below in math that made tremendous progress in a couple of months but they were above they're reading correctly in Reading you probably have an answer is that a curriculum issue is that a construction issue yeah it's not your school I understand that first yeah you did not have where students work for math when we looked at all the data points together and the input from Cherry Brook staff at the end of the year prior we weren't panicking that we needed more math interventionists and then we had a huge amount of deficit we've been able to service the students in math intervention using the same number of staff that we have in the past um but I don't know what to attribute why it was so sure other than um it could have been not familiar with the test format what I do know though is the students who needed support through intervention were able to receive it but that speaks also for reading as well it'll be interesting over time any questions about um okay um so then when we look back on our year I'm at the beginning of the year when I had shared with you what our action strategies would be some of the successes were in the professional development they made engaged in as a staff called in the moment wanting to utilize Learning Ally and freckles so that we could have some really individualized on the asynchronous support plans for some students and we also um double down on our student intervention team meeting so we've increased the number of meetings that we've all over need twice a week now we had which then allowed us to increase the number of students that we had in our sit process the student intervention team so we had roughly 25 students there are kids that we exit at points in the year and then there are new students of concern that joined but we had about 25 slots and for each of those students throughout the year we spoke about them in terms of parents including classroom teachers the department leader our school psychologists our counseling team and we're really looking at the whole child and making sure that we have the right plans in place to support a student's growth thinking ahead to next year we still don't have 100 of our students at building work so we're going to continue to try to make little adjustments and see what changes we can make that are going to be helpful one of those is thinking about the access that our classroom teachers have to students to do some reteaching of Their Own our Flex block is a wonderful block of time good thing many of our students are going through small group instruction with Tutors or special education teachers and so we continue to think about how can those same students also have several teaching experiences with our certified staff teachers the teachers didn't know them so well so we are looking to play around with our special schedule a little bit and increase that contact time especially in our lower two grades Learning Ally was a tool that we found great success with this year we still need more practice utilizing freckle and being effective and efficient with rental so that's something to think about next year and then we're also considering um how can we adjust our intervention blocks you know we've been traditionally servicing students in intervention for possibly for 25 minutes there's some research that shows that longer blocks of time you accomplish more in three 45-minute sessions anyway in five 25-minute sessions so thinking about what what's going to be that little push that we need to move ours more of our students to that accelerated growth and that's something that we're going to try is having some longer intervention blocks next year yeah and that was a lot of information about reading and math but I do remiss if I didn't also point out that while much of our Focus because much of our our time during our day is spent on those core skills not all of our teachers are working on math and leading goals our sixth grade writing teachers focus on and structure and informational texts which is just the work that those things students are doing in Reading this is Costello focused on improving student advocate application of the elements so you will see that our students have achieved very well there and if you came to our concerts last week you've heard what the culmination of a Year's worth of work in our music department sounds like if you think about the fact that our fourth graders have never played an instrument in a band before and that we haven't had a great band concert since 2019 um to be able to put on the kind of show with a level of this musicianship that we were able to do last week is pretty impressive our fifth grader graders which usually have a year of band under their belt by this time we're also beginning band because they were drumming on buckets last year for their band experience so our fifth grader also haven't played in a concert and we're beginning band and you never would have known that by listening to that at last week's concert Mr American into choirs hadn't even been allowed to sing Our Choir couldn't sing for several years and they were able to put on the shows that they did so I'm proud of I'm very proud of our students for the work that they put into the final Performing Arts just as much as I am for their working reading them a little bit one of the areas where we committed a lot of our efforts and our resources was in teacher PD we had a commitment to implementing instructional strategies that we felt with support the success of all Learners so we continue to focus on the strategies from high expectations teaching from John sappier the book that we've been using to study simple strategies like making your learning goal really explicit to students if it level the playing field and allow all students to access that learning and really thinking about what are those strategies that we need to have commonplace in all of our classrooms it's it's not an easy thing as adults as professionals as teachers to be able to look at your practice and acknowledge where you might need some improvement and where you might need to try something new to get a different result we read culturally responsive teaching in the brain and we thought about what are those practices that we want to embed every day and in every classroom and we learn from each other we learn with each other we had Dr Seiler from the University of St Joseph joined us and again talking about just how do we engage all of our students make learning relevant we give students choice so that allows us then when we're creating our action plans or writing curriculum when we're trying to revise units that we've been doing for many years we've made it more relevant to our students this was the work that teachers did in the background to be able to make that work successful to your students we're back at just a couple more minutes okay I'm in the interest of time all right I'm so excited about everything that I will do this is it this is exciting stuff um but our next two goals actually are both our clinical for parents our students completed their surveys last week and our parents survey has been sent out as well um I would encourage any parents that are listening I think we're only at about 20 of our parents have responded so we do want to have some more but that that will help us think about our goals for next year one of our data points when we thought about climate was you want to go for it one more year we continue to recognize positive behavior and celebrating that positive behavior we do that through recognizing naming and defining respectable or respect responsible and Role Model Behavior we also had some kindness celebrations this year and that is our winning class holding their kindness trophy we with the support of this board were able to offer a lot of extracurricular and after school activities and these are what those activities were along with the students who participated in that some were the regulars and some were very new some were by student ask we have disc golf was supported by youth service and in town they purchased for us some of the equipment that we needed and you'll also see in several places that we were able to connect mentors from the high school with students here at CIS and that's something that they want to grow and do more of next year they were enjoyed by all that's really impressive I mean in the participation and getting those kids to you know being around after school to be involved with this stuff this is really good so bringing to those students it gives them one more reason to be connected to school advisory was one of our big initiatives this year and it was a huge success we met twice a month for the most part in very few small groups been creating our family crests throughout the year and those will be a part of our closing ceremonies at the end of the year when we have a field day our goal through advisory is that everybody meets some new people they have a new circle of friends but they also have another adult in the building that they can connect to that they can go to if they need help in somebody is one more adult that they can go close enough to that they can access for help so when I think about our successes and thinking ahead as far as climate and culture go and we want to continue an advisory we're hoping next year we're going to meet less often but for longer blocks of time so that we can really get into the conversations with one another I'll continue to expand our after school activity offerings and one of the pieces of work that we just started uh with a very small But Mighty group was our code of conduct we recognize we I hear from staff that we needed clear and transparent conduct that the more we got into researching best practices and seeing models from other districts we have a lot of work to do so that's going to be more of a priority next year involve more staff if it's a big lift with the hope of involving parents and students that sometimes describe so lastly I'll go ahead a couple I'll go for a little more here and just share this this year you know we continue to add some Community connections and involve parents we've had a fantastic qto who offered a lot of opportunities for our community to be involve Aaron's back in the building has mystery readers helping with different simulations and social studies units and experiential learning and we had um the cast of The Seussical come down and read to our students so trying to connect as often as possible our students with role models from the community and role models from here in the district because I think that when we build those strong connections with encantas um it helps us build a strong Community within the school and that's ultimately our goal we want our sixth graders to feel like they've been a part of a community when they leave here and go across the digital school um so much of what we do it's a high value and we're very intentional on the experiences that we offer for students so that we can have experiences like Empower leadership where our students are working together we can celebrate Thanksgiving and our sixth graders have opportunities to do a lot of team building and just some leadership work with one another [Music] um I think I'll open it up to questions at that because I can continue to talk and talk and talk and talk to students but I want to give you a chance to I just getting clarifying questions that you may have any questions other than uh we're pretty proud of this school too and the reviews are always very good for parents every year I hear and so and this just demonstrates that I know we always have work to do but we're making we're making a lot of progress and that's that's what the board looks for thank you any Kim I might I might kind of similar to what I asked spoke about at Cherry Brook a couple weeks ago just like maybe looking at longitudinal stuff you know data just seeing like why be super simple write tremendous growth and um this war is left right just really looking across to see you know it seems like an education everywhere we keep pushing pushing more right there's a lot of you know the pacing is very fast in education everywhere and I'm just in Canton so just curious you know we talk a lot about all the academic you know scores and data but I'm curious about you know the social piece the emotional piece and you know we spoke about these fourth graders you know you and I spoke about this help they're the ones who you know covet happened in first grade you know they didn't eat in the camp they didn't eat the cafeteria and they're second grade they didn't even cafeteria in third grade so this is their first experience in a cafeteria going to an art room going to a library it's like resetting restarting all over again for them and the staff's done a phenomenal job but I imagine as we hear all over the you know the needs of children emotionally integrated that need to practice self-regulation um so I I'd like I'd love to know a little more maybe not now but to really track and see how we're doing behaviorally um and you know what are the needs and how can we better support you and your staff I think that's important because I don't feel that's not in here it's hard to assess sometimes how children are feeling and we know that children who feel well feel safe are happy have a childhood achieve better so it's kind of what I spoke about you weren't that meeting but I spoke about that and thank you to something that I think we should always keep in the back of our minds about um as well as the academic and I appreciate all that everybody does here and the clubs are amazing I think that's a great way for children to have practice you know have some more childlike activities and then children can't participate in you know team sports or other activities like some children who they have other options here so I I kudos to all the extracurricular activities that went on after school and and the field trips I I tomorrow is a big day Sturbridge Village and all the things you've put together so I you know just great the way you rebounded back with all this stuff thank you for being here I know you have a long ride home so uh for listening to my data so I appreciate it yeah we do look for it at this excuse me we do look forward to the fall when we can you know kind of continue to do this comparative analysis and but it seems like we're we're making great headlights yeah so that fall meeting on the end of this show you know the spring data yeah and then what that means for us for next year and how does that inform our morals so Rebecca thank you for being uh what is the most important role of a principal as the instructional leader so thank you for all your hard work as the instructional leader in this building that work couldn't happen without the collaboration with teachers and um as I'm sure everyone at these tables realizes these extracurricular activities couldn't occur unless teachers are willing teachers and para educators are willing to and tutors are willing to stay after school to help with these activities and Rebecca your ability to collaborate with staff and help staff support students is really remarkable so we thank you for your hard work okay so I I'd like to go to the public forum now to see if anybody let's let's go to our studio audience first and uh hearing none will not go to anyone online that has a a comment sure we've got a couple of people um if any of you online would like to make fun of me but we can go ahead and use the raise hand future assume and I will call on you by your same name all right so this person has DD as their names I'm gonna lie reading payment address for the record please all right can you hear me yes oh uh Diane 38 High Street Collinsville I want to thank Kim for bringing to light the emotional piece and the social peace is something really important especially as the CIS students transitioning to Middle School the Middle School yield years are very daunting um my mom was a teacher and she kind of would describe it as everybody thinks elementary school kids are so cute and the high schoolers are blooming and the middle schoolers are kind of like the ugly ducklings that kind of get forgotten and I would laugh at that but then I experienced it for myself and it was quite trying so I wanted to thank him for bringing that to light and definitely agree that there needs to be a lot of focus on that thank you guys anybody else I don't have any other race now okay with that we'll close the public forum we'll go right along we'll move to uh Mr Bishop again hmm and I don't have anything further to to record tonight so what I would like though is just just a brief report on um on what how we're moving forward with the principles higher thank you very much I'm happy to be able to do that um uh as was shared earlier Ms Porto and I are chairing the uh the search process as uh as we work through we've had a number of um community members who have offered to be um uh joining us on the committee um for the uh for the interviews for our uh the principal candidates we expect to be able to bring a strong pool together for us and be able to initialize that that work in that uh second week of June so we would look to be able to have our first week or our first meeting with our committee on June 7th uh June said we have a little bit of work to be able to do on that but we're looking forward to being able to connect with our committee on that um it is a a private it it is a process that requires us to be able to have a level of confidentiality to it right because folks are are trusting Us in the participation in the process of being able to come forward being able to interview with us some of the work that we're going to talk about with our community members is how important confidentiality is and the uh the collection of the the various resources that we might provide for them so that's an important thing to be able to know but for you all to be able to as well which I think is really important is the process will will begin with an initial vetting of the pool and then bringing them forward a number of candidates to be able to come through with what we see as most likely interviews first round interviews over two days and then continuing with a second round of interviews that we anticipate adding in not just questions but some some practical experience as well of uh here's some data what would you do then based on this information and then also some scenario based work of based on this information here's a scenario that you might come up that you might come across how might you look to be able to respond to that we're giving very careful attention to what some of the needs have been at Cherry Brook primary school and where there are opportunities for us to be able to come forward but part of what we'll do as we go through the community survey that we have the responses for that we'll use that to be able to help calibrate some of our questions that we'll put out there as well so the process is well underway we had an initial meeting with Dr Grossman last week and then Mrs Corto and I met again this past Monday we'll be meeting again later this week and continuing on from there so the community survey is out there is your input now it is so I don't know how we hyped that I know what we did the superintendent survey we had 300 responses or something like that they thought that was good but uh I don't know how we plan to hike that a little bit any thoughts we can add it to the communications yeah Communications agenda I'd really like to see a great cross-section I really like to see the parents of Cherry Grove give us their current uh parents and then anybody else certainly but uh I just think that's such a critical part uh as you begin to formulate the process yeah agreed and we did say that that as as we get to a point where we'll be closing our community survey soon to our Panorama surveys we'll look to be able to pull information from them as well but we'll we'll bring both of those together bring those questions out in front of our community to be able to see if there's anything that we might have missed along the way if there's anything else that we want to tease out but then we'll be able to tee that up and be ready to move into the process so is the point as you update the board in the future um understanding confidentiality is there a need to have those updates in executive session or is it just going to be General updates where we don't need I mean you don't have to tell me now but just as we set the agenda um because I know this board would like to have updates um well what what I can what I can say is we will not have um trying to think about the the timing of our of our board meetings our next meeting is the Sixth and our our meeting for the um the committee would be the seventh so so and then our interview process will will continue over those next two weeks I think I think it would be um it would probably be to board leadership to be able to share out as necessary for anything that down great thank you yep I I want to thank you and I think I meant to thank Rebecca and I didn't buy a note but um how important this is and we appreciate the extra time that goes into this by both you and we're back here and getting this done we appreciate that the trust and the opportunity for it we know that this is a great opportunity to do right by our community um and you know definitely for for Mrs Portugal she works very closely with our primary school program um as she is the direct recipient of students so for us to be able to work together from now we're really excited about being able to do that work and I would say too as part of the part of the vetting process as well um Mr McLean has done an amazing job in ordering directly over with Jerry Brook to be able to support over this past year that she's been here with us she's going to be doing some administrative work with us as well to help do some initial betting in the process and she'll be there in our second round as well great okay thank you yep thank you thank you for that report the case of consent agenda please thank you as part of the consent agenda tonight we have the approval of minutes from our May 9 2023 meeting and we have a letter of intent to retire from Helly we're biking this is where Vicki has been a special education teacher at the middle school for over 30 years uh Mr scheidler shared that she has been in the same room for over 30 years which is really remarkable she has decided to retire and her loss Will Truly be felt here in Canton especially at the middle school where she has served our students with very intensive needs throughout the year she truly is a student Advocate that really collaborates well with parents and she will be missed that's on the agenda tonight for you to accept her letter of retirement so uh mad emotion accepting consent agenda will accept the other title will regret and well wishes for a happy retirement so Peggy is a first thank you second is Erica any uh any discussion hearing Nunn all those in favor aye and I opposed eight zero well I have some good news for you we're going to table the policy discussion tonight do some tweets that still have to be done as we went through the policy committee meeting tonight there's there's a couple things that we still aren't comfortable with so on six six uh we'll be reviewing those policies again so that's off the agenda so from that point uh then we move to board member comments anybody have a comment about uh tonight or any of the things you heard about the processary meeting over the summer we will we're going to meet once in July and we'll meet once in August and the reason being is that we could cancel I'm waiting to see how the transition works with Dr Grossman and what he wants to report back to the board so I want to leave July open probably that second meeting in July would be left open I don't know what would that specific date is the second uh and if you're on vacation you're on vacation I we won't be taking any votes certainly it's just a matter of keeping board would you do Zoom would I do Zoom of course of course yeah because I know you know years ago we did meet some of us were on vacation we made it happen yeah whatever's most convenient for the board okay any other comments questions which I think what's important to keep in mind is Dr Grossman will need the sex uh with Mr Daniels a date to appoint the new principal which will need to occur in very early July I think that's the goal uh so it's important to keep that in mind the superintendent needs to make that recommendation that that recommendation will be coming from Dr Grossman So the appointment needs to be made after July 1st but I think Dr grosser would like to do that as early in July as possible [Music] it's the fiscal year well it's actually it'll be on July 3rd yeah on Monday it's July 30th a holiday weekend anyway it coincides with the physical here all right okay Joe second thank you Erica um any any conversation discussion anybody want to stay no okay all those in favor aye aye opposed we're out at 903.
