on the draw control Ali Thompson on the circle Kenna Marino had the momentum there at the end of the second half we'll see if they can keep it going it's won by Notre Dame Hingham into the Stick of Connery over here 18. she's gone Colin number 14 has it in her stick she gets it back to the number 14 is Aubry McMahon now number 18 Colin again being defended by Megan morno pushes her out followed behind by Talia Weiss Gets behind the circle covering that cutter great play there by number 28 test and all actually that was number 22 Grace Howard chasing out test and all is going to get thrown behind she got caught there in a shooting space Ali Thompson not sure who's got this one but it goes in great save picked up on the ground it's going to be a battle for the ball here they're going after it it's still on the crown it's getting chased down it's picked up there by Notre Dame Hingham number seven Emma Connery has it over to number nine hilsevek number 18 siobhang Colin has it again and that is oh almost there picked off by Talia by Ali Thompson she was in position it was just really a great pass great catch Thompson was in the right spot to cut it off it was a millisecond late and a really good shot to give Notre Dame Hingham a good start here to the second half they get first blood in the second half 23 minutes and 40 seconds remaining took a minute and I don't know a minute and some seconds off anyway a good 30 seconds or so and uh we're gonna get Kenna Marino on the draw Megan morno on the circle with Addie Jordan for Islam Meadow somebody new on the draw I can't see the number on the Jersey here looks like number 14 is going to get an opportunity on the draw Aubry McMahon a junior attacker sophomore Kena Marino Gonna Take a Shot here to see if they can get East Longmeadow up as their first real possession here in the second half it's a fight it's a battle again morno omo oh that was a great play there by Connery she's got it she's going in and that is going to be a goal takes its start to finish and then slams her stick on the ground a great play there by Emma connerty to take that and go she went through three East Longmeadow Defenders after winning that draw control and off she goes Megan morno now going to take the draw against number 14 Aubrey McMahon she's going to give it a shot there coach is screaming out here we go here we go to try to get some momentum really comes down to you know as it has I think for most of the game here both offensive have been very successful when they've had possession draw control gonna be really key here for East Longmeadow in the second half to try to win it and this is one yet again and they just flying down and getting it into the Zone but a bad pass there a First really bad turnover there by Notre Dame Hingham first one I've seen all game long we'll see here if East Longmeadow can take advantage of that for sure there's going to be a really difficult challenging ride here by Notre Dame Hingham they've had a great ride all game long and it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon this one is oh it's a little oh a little bit of a high pass morno couldn't control it tries to get in there again nothing really that they could do right there hilsevek puts it in the new hole the unforced errors and uncaused turnovers again for East Longmeadow really starting to be the difference in this game Notre Dame Hingham I think has only had one unforced error turnover East Longmeadow probably on number five or six right there see if East Longmeadow can get a possession here in the second half and get the ball into the offensive zone they're now down by six goals 22 minutes and 45 seconds remaining draw control it's on the ground it looks like and Connery's got it again I mean she's just been an absolutely dominating player in this game on the circle the number of draw controls that have been picked up by connerty is I wouldn't say it's unprecedented but it's a lot there's just been a real she's just been able to pick up a lot of a lot of those draws again here though this one might sneak its way out of bounds and it does another unforced error uncaused turnover East Longmeadow has possession Mourinho has the ball passed up it's oh here we go again can we pick this one up and they do pick it up they have it oh gonna put white behind there's a little penalty there on Megan Moore against Megan morno or on Megan Moore I'm not sure what the right terminology is Bridget Jordan has it here that was a difficult pass right there not sure that was just a tough one not so sure she was open but a good try there by Bridget Jordan who's been deadly accurate on her passes all year but a tough catch right there East Longmeadow probably needed to get that ball swung around the circle and maintain possession because they're deep they have been on defense the entire second half a good ride here good pressure by trulio good pressure by macarini and now you got Bridget Jordan's going to try to chase this one chase this one down you've got Addie Jordan on it here they come again it's going to be two on one good play there looking for a pass looking for an outlet hillsabeck has it on Weiss fires it in Great save there but it's going to be a shooting space violation on I believe on either Hannah Taft or Ali Thompson I'm not sure looks like that one's going to be on hand at half Hill sobeck going to get another opportunity for yet another goal the ball goes in and this is this is now I will say the the water is coming out of the drain for East Longmeadow they have just been dominated here in the second half it was eight to five at a half time Notre Dame Hingham has come out and been on fire they have won every single draw control they have put four goals in the net and even with two unforced error turnovers East Longmeadow has not been able to capitalize last possession for East Longmeadow they held they didn't hold the ball I don't think long enough in the offensive end themselves a really good opportunity to go and get back in the game and it just put their defense back in a very tired position it's been five minutes of Defense really here for Eastlawn Meadow we'll see what Megan morno can do here on the draw with Ally Thompson and Addie Jordan on the circle ball goes up and again it just goes directly to Connor who picks up another one it's been tell how many I think if we go back and look at this one it seems like every single draw control I'm calling the name connity number seven [Music] it's just this is what happens here is when you know when they're getting the ball here you're just seeing a lot of eight meter shots here and those are those almost always lead to goals and when you have this many eight meter shots and part of it is is because the East Longmeadow defense is just exhausted they worked really really hard to keep this game close in the first half and now we're going on almost six minutes of defense they're just they're just gassed so you can see the attack and the offense of Notre Dame Hingham moving the ball around keeping the East Longmeadow defense moving and then when they're just getting a little bit tired they throw in a cutter and they're just getting there a little bit late and getting some eight meter shots so we're going to give a new person an opportunity here on the circle Addie Jordan's going to give it a try but uh somebody's got to defend connity anybody but Connery should be able to they've got to get it anywhere but to connerty because wherever that ball is she's been able to find it so far in this on the draw all game long and here she comes again ball goes again in her Direction and there it is she picks it up again this is this is automatic on the draw no matter where connity is that's where the ball goes and that's where it's going and she's able to grab it so great effort there on the draw Again by um it looks like I'm not sure who's doing the draw but it looks like it's number 14 is able to really direct it Aubry McMahon is directing it kind of Wherever not wherever she wants to go I'm sure she's trying to direct it to connerty and that's exactly what's happening and so here we go again Eastland Meadow on defense giving it all they have testing alt riding along and then Here Comes again and just yet another shooting space violation by East Longmeadow and number nine again Jane Hills back likely going to throw one in the bottom and then unless Jenna Hawley can come up with some miracle save and really Jenna Hawley did a great job there to get the Shoulder out on the high shot um and get a little piece of that but with the power of hilsevex shot even hitting even hitting Holly in the top left shoulder it was still able to find its way into the back of the net coach Moses here calling a timeout now team is down by nine goals with 18 minutes and 42 seconds left if not um it's going to give a little words of inspiration here team moving in the right direction they look a little bit they certainly look dejected over there now that the now the game looks like it's gotten out of control is Notre Dame Hingham has scored six straight goals in seven minutes here in the second half so essentially they're going at a goal a minute pace and if nothing else this is um not only the words of inspiration in the coaching but also just going to give the East Longmeadow defense time to catch a breather in a little bit of a little bit of a break beautiful night here for lacrosse it's a I would call it earlier I would have called it mostly sunny and now I'm going to call it mostly cloudy there is a dark gray cloud over the field right now but lots of Blue Sky all around it not anticipating any bad weather but wind is picking up a little bit so it wouldn't surprise me if the next game caught a little bit of a downpour and some rain not too much excitement here by the fans looks like the East Longmeadow team is really coming together they're surrounding themselves with Moses they've given a little chant they're going to come out let's see if we can get a little bit of fire in the belly little hop step there between Holly and one of the East Longmeadow Defenders test Denault it's like their routine they are going to try and this try something once try something twice try anything try anything new here it might even be a good idea to put two players on connerty and leave somebody and just leave somebody else open at this point but here comes more now she's going to try the draw against number 14 Aubrey McMahon who's been doing a fantastic job all night long and again it is almost it was it's not it is it kind of it morno has it brings it back takes a shot on her own goalie Hawley picks it up Holly grabs it gets it up to Mourinho Mourinho is moving down the sideline she's got it in her left hand she's just got a little more speed right now than number 14.

start have been extremely successful so far for Notre Dame Hingham they've gotten wide open with great looks at the goal basically no opportunity whatsoever for the goalie Megan morno now going to take the draw control still going to still going to keep Ali Thompson and Kenna Marino on the circle let's see East Longmeadow hoping to get a little bit of a different result here yeah it's up and it is one again by Notre Dame Hingham number seven having great success Emma connerty on the draw control Kenna Marino chasing her down and Notre Dame sets up its offense again and connerty chased out there by Talia Weiss Jane hilsabek has it again defended by Kenna Marino Emma connerty again over to hillsebeck Hill sebec has it passes it off to the wing looking for a cutter gets it behind the goal gets it to the X now it's still behind the goal number 14 gets it back out to number nine and wide open right there and it's just missed a good opportunity a really good look there a really good pass by hillsa Beck inside just missed the goal backed up nicely by Notre Dame 22 minutes and 45 seconds to tosses it in I should say into the goalie Jenna Hawley who has it is going to be very careful with it here looks like she has it she's going to be very careful holding the ball as she should because a great ride I do like the patience of Holly at times this season she's been in a hurry in a hurry to get rid of it but not this time she has it Addie Jordan has it she's getting pushed over to the left hand side she's trying to run her way through to Kenna Marino who's one of our fastest players is flying up the sideline getting it over the getting it over getting it over not sure what happened there tough pass but picked up now by Weiss Weiss goes Talia Weiss goes over they've got it it gets to Megan morno Megan morno has it and she gets it over to Ken Moreno East London going to get a chance here to tie the game Kenna Marino setting up a play setting up a Dodge to Ali Thompson looking for morno morno has it a good catch but really well defended there by number seven Emma Connery good play morno pulls it back out rightfully he says it a little bit of movement behind there by Anna macarini they've got it here comes Ali Thompson back to Bridget Jordan we've seen this before Bridget Jordan moving through senior Captain holding it looking looking Gets behind we're gonna get a three second call here on Notre Dame a little bit of harm some foul doesn't put East Longmeadow in a great position in terms of it it's not it's not a penalty that automatically kind of gets you on the eight meter so it's basically as far as they're concerned it's a it's a reset has it she's got it and a good save there by the goalie good move there though by morno to get around there and to get a shot off but a good save by the goalie gonna get a ride here as Notre Dame tries to get it up the field we've got uh Addie Jordan Chase Notre Dame number 14 gets a touch on that one Aubrey McMahon back the oven connerty picks it up number 14 has it again she's moving it back down behind the X really good ball movement here by Notre Dame number 21 Riley Walsh getting in touch Hill sebec has it she sees a cutter but they back it out Connery has it really good catch there by 21 Riley Walsh they're really taking their time here looks like they're really looking here it is here's a good one they've got a little opening there but it a really good play Here by Notre Dame they're really taking their time looking for an opportunity here's where I think they're going to try to do a quick Dodge here it comes out Talia Weiss gets out there on a double team which is good it's in the middle they're holding they're holding sticks are up great save there by Jenna Hawley good shot in traffic by Notre Dame East Longmeadow has the ball it's out to Thompson Thompson has it it's going to get picked up here by picked up here and hammered from behind just gonna try to run it herself she's pulling it she drops it she picks it back up she drops it again a penalty by number five on the ride Alexa Kenny really showing off you know showing showing off her speed she's we're happening last game free slaw metal these uncaused unforced error turnovers 18 minutes and 10 seconds remaining 2-1 Notre Dame Hingham there by morno tough one she's looking in the middle good defense there by Holly Holly flipping it out morno's got it she's taking it down the sidelines and it looked she's cuffed wrong still getting covered gets checked from behind picks it up it's still going strong it's a good pass in there to Mourinho Mourinho still has it grabs it good Jordan doing a little bit of dodging got knocked out of her stick trulio then picks it up tosses it to morno who's really just I think gonna settle some things down here give you some metal to take some time porno with 16 minutes and 45 seconds remaining is going to get an opportunity from the center half to tie this up for East Longmeadow let's see looks like she's changing her mind between running it in and cranking it in we're going to see which happens She Cranks it and fires it into the top shelf just to get in the door are up in arms cheering down there great fan support traveling down here nice to see a good competitive game here with 10 minutes gone almost 16 and a half minutes remaining in the game and it is to all like also not sure what happened right there Megan morno on the sidelines she's going to she's uh getting treated a little bit here by the trainer not sure what happened line lucasic goes into Jordan picks it up on the draw it's going to be a redraw number 14 for Notre Dame Hingham Aubry McMahon a junior attacker out of Norwell on the draw for Notre Dame Hingham all right ball is flipped up into the air it's on the ground it's picked up it's pic of Addie Jordan who's got it she is getting as quickly as she can and then she gets it kind of taken away I mean this is just a an all-out Battle Royale for this thing and it is won back by Addie Jordan they're taking their time Caroline lukasik over here to Kenna Marino looks like they're going to take their time here morno still getting treated on the sidelines getting taped up Ally Thompson has it good play there on defense by number six Elizabeth Dillon knocked it out of the Stick of soft of Junior Ali Thompson number seven senior Bridget Jordan has it is bringing it around the goal getting chased from behind gets it over there to Ally Thompson Bridget Jordan has it Jordan to Mourinho Mourinho trying to make a move on number 16 and number 25 Anna Claire and Caroline Haggerty it's knocked out of Bridget Jordan's stick lucasic has it tried to sneak it in there to number four true great defense there hustle back by Talia Weiss and then absolutely no chance there for Jenna Hawley I mean in transition and off they go and that is what's gonna happen that is going to be a goal score East Longmeadow had it for quite some time in the offensive zone just couldn't make anything happen there on offense and immediately on the turnover Notre Dame Hingham out quick in transition everybody in position got the ball down to a wide open there were actually two players wide open right in front and nothing that Jenna Hawley could do it was a wide open shot and goal and I'll be right back thank you [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] so I am back I know it's been a little while since I was here things have changed momentum has shifted the control of the game has been kind of taken over here by Notre Dame Hingham since it's been tied at two all it was that offensive possession a little while ago and uh down went Hingham to give themselves 3-2 then it's been four two five two gonna see what they can do here can a Merino on the draw Ally Thompson on the circle with Addie Jordan who can get themselves a little less than the deficit last four minutes have really been dominated the play has been dominated by Notre Dame Hingham and again they maintain possession and Addie Gordon gonna get a yellow card heading to the sidelines making it even a bigger challenge here for islametto they are going to be a woman down against a very potent [Music] number 25 has it for Notre Dame Hingham Connor Caroline Haggerty gets it over it's now in the Stick of number 21 Riley Walsh who's bouncing around of a penalty here on East Longmeadow number five Kenny gonna get an opportunity here on an eight meter or whistle blows three steps low rider lots of Power Ball in the net now it's six to two 11 minutes and 18 seconds remaining not sure here what East Longmeadow needs to do in order to turn the bus around but it's starting to spiral downhill quickly really need to win this draw control get on the circle get the ball get a possession and see what happens draw control is going to be everything here because it doesn't seem like East longmeadows defense can really do anything right now to stop the Notre Dame Hingham offense ball goes up it's in the air it's on the ground it's going to be a fight and a battle somebody goes over the line it looks like the ball is going to actually go to East Longmeadow so the penalty there of coming over the line on and then just plowed into one of our strongest players strongest Defenders Talia Weiss so Aubry McMahon a junior attacker out of Norwell playing for Notre Dame Hingham is uh going to be on the sidelines for two minutes so now kind of interesting where each team is a woman down or a girl down one and put one in the net yeah that's certain [Music] that's not what East Longmeadow really needed right there they they had possession of the ball they needed to kind of maintain that possession and they lost it right away another you know the unforced kind of unforced error turnover looks like free slime Meadow Megan morno looks like she's going to be out of the game for the remainder of the game she hasn't gone back in suffered uh looks like she suffered a wrist injury on that eight meter shot and just hasn't gone back in not sure what the injury is but um looks like it's something on her right wrist the trainer's been working with her on the sidelines but it doesn't look like morno is going to get back into this game here by Kenna Marino on defense just a little bit of an added aggressive push there by Kenna Marino she was on top of hill sebek hill sebec was really looking for the cutter anyway in the first place the cutter was open but he'll save him to get her chance at an eight meter nine minutes and 45 seconds remaining she's gonna run it in a very Speedy player and puts that one into the top top portion of the net coach Moses

someone here who can take notes Theresa thank you so much is this meeting open to members of the public yes yes okay it's being streamed okay all right um so uh I'm gonna call this to order 6 31 now and we have two items on our agenda the May 2023 financial report and also an update on financial forecasting so with that I will turn that over to Mr Walston or Mr Spang whoever would like to pick that up yeah John if you can start with the the monthly update and then we can tag team the last week okay and um I'd like to introduce uh if I could Jody husina is with us tonight um some of you may know Jody from our adult ed program and um she's joined the finance department in the role uh that Eddie Miranda uh held most recently so uh Jody's uh online with us so yeah uh Ken if you'd like to uh turn to the financial report the next one see there there's our agenda there it is uh okay so um I'm continuing um when I started I I think a couple months ago when I started uh presenting these and I think someone's got their TV on okay and can you mute everyone except for John okay that's but yeah thank you uh so you know what I I try and do is um at least show the highlights um what I think are the emerging issues or um things we need to emphasize in the narrative and although it it looks like a lot there not um first paragraph I mentioned that um through May our our budget is uh pretty much obligated 99.7 it's up or a little bit from where it was the month before um most of our obligations have been um encumbered or set aside or even in paid at this point but I I mentioned there again uh the struggle we're having with health insurance claims um talked about it last month that they're up you can see the statistics there the first three months of the plan year uh they were 5.8 million in the last uh three months ending march they were 6.8 million that's a 17 increase and are it's worth saying again that um our we have a health insurance consultant slash broker and they've told us this is not entirely unique to Danbury but we do have um a larger number this year of what they describe as high cost claims those are individuals whose claims have been more than fifty thousand dollars uh you know we're self-insured we we pay the claims uh as those claims uh get up should they get up to 125 000 then there's an insurance policy that kicks in that pays everything above that um called this that's what's called the stop loss uh but that uh Corridor in between uh we're responsible and they they feel we have more uh than we've had in in typical years uh they have attributed that uh in part to uh the fact that during the covid periods uh people weren't uh getting the preventive care uh that they had in other years they weren't going to the doctor as much or the hospital and now that they are some of their con conditions are further along than they might normally be there's also I've seen and read about some medical inflation it's around part of that is due to the consolidation of hospitals and groups especially here in Connecticut that's led to higher prices so that's uh that we're struggling with um the other thing I I mentioned there in the second paragraph is the um you know our cost of covering vacancies and absentees adds absenteeism and and things of of that nature um it's it's been harder to find substitutes uh than ever before um as you know we use a service Kelly Services it does the same thing with a number of area school districts uh but we've still had to use our own teachers uh either by giving them extra courses for the year to teach uh you'll have to compensate for that or just plain what we call period coverage where a teacher has a free period and and we get her or him to come cover a class and there's a cost for that so we've talked about that uh during the year before but it's we still have struggled with method and then I mentioned too that um you know the city uh we have our budget approved by the city council 150 million but as I mentioned last month and again this month you'll see the number in a minute um the savings that we thought uh back in December uh we'd have when we got to the end of the year uh we just haven't had um mostly because of uh the health insurance that we talked about we're also faced with uh mandate from the state for a reading program those of you that also sit on the board's curriculum committee might remember the March meeting or Cara casemiro came and discussed this um Public Act 21-2 which requires that we have a reading program picked out and starting to implement it uh in two weeks or in July 1st so that that's been a drag on our resources that we weren't expecting but along those lines we've started discussions um and I'm very pleased with the response we're getting from uh City Oklahoma City officials primarily the City Finance director and and the mayor's office uh we uh met with him this week uh along with our committee chairperson Al Russo to talk about uh drawing down reserves uh to balance the budget and they were very supportive of that idea we're trying to sharpen our pencil a little more before we draw them down but the preliminary plans are to draw the reserves down uh in early August so I'm I'm encouraged by the reaction uh from them we also have the state budget was signed today by the governor I haven't seen the runs yet myself um maybe we'll report that separately when we see in the runs are are it's a term that's used for town by town State Aid by state aid exactly what you're you're going to get so uh well they should be out if not tonight uh tomorrow morning but at the bottom of the report there you'll see if you could scroll up a little um this appears in the next couple Pages uh it shows our 141 million dollar budget um we've spent uh 115 000 through May uh there's 25 115 million uh there's 25 million covered at the end of May but this week uh in fact uh Friday is what we call the balloon payroll for teachers and for other staff and um so a 10-month employees who Begin work in September when they begin work uh there are we pay every other Friday there are only 21 every other Fridays left in the year because we've already had July and August they're given a choice do they want their salary divided equally by the next 21 paydays or uh and this is a practice that's gone back probably 30 years or more um do they want their salary divided by and then when we get to the last teacher payroll of the year uh they get five checks and uh it's very popular uh especially with our younger teachers um that payroll will be processing it tomorrow uh for Friday but it it could be in the vicinity of 18 uh to 20 million dollars some of that coming from our people who are on grants not in the in the budget here but it's uh it's a big payroll for sure so that that'll use up most of the encumbrance along with uh some of the claims more health insurance claims in June and then just some of the bills that we've encumbered uh utilities some of the special ed bills some of the transportation services for the month of June um will use the rest um so at end of May we were projecting a balance of 479 000 uncommitted I use that word um I expect that we'll go down to Zero by the end of this month um in you know it was a very tight budget to start with what I've what I've said to people when we you know we asked for 152 million uh last year uh when we were given 141 of course you'll remember we used our Esser Grant uh for most of that difference uh so we wouldn't have to cut back programs and staff uh but it it didn't leave much we didn't leave ourselves uh really any room uh for things that might not go according to plan that's why when we see these health insurance claims come in it takes us right down to zero so that's that's the story of the general fund through May um Ken if you could just flip to the next page this is um the report the board is uh used to well there's that page I'm sorry um you can see the summary there by what they call major object salaries benefits uh supplies and over on the far right you'll see the the 479 thousand and then um Ken on the next a couple Pages that's our typical line by line uh budget you can see after uh transfers which we make uh during the year you can see we there's a little money left in the uh teacher line and then as you go down the list uh you'll see the line for Tutors or para Educators uh there's some unencumbered money there but I again I expect that to be uh used up so those are the line by lines um Kate I I could stop there I could talk about the grants and then we could talk about the whole report what's your your preference let's let's pause for a moment John and just see if there are any questions or any points that people are looking for clarification on okay uh members of committee do you have any questions anyone else have a question yeah Michelle yeah just a quick one the uh reading program mandate was that K to third grade K to three is well I think we we chose to do the K5 but was the Mandate like for K3 and then we added those two additional grades I remember having that conversation at one point I might look to my boss to answer that I believe that and so um Michelle I believe the Mandate is for um is for K3 and given that we're in need of a reading program if we're going to replace the one that we have um that's why I think part of the presentation and curriculum committee discussion was to go K-5 because we're in need of a new reading program anyway so if a kid is leaving the third grade and with this science of reading approach and then to go into fourth grade into playing that has already been deemed um insufficient uh it was thought best to to go K5 if you have a comprehensive program from the beginning to the end of elementary school right and what was the what is the Mandate what was the cost of our reading program just because it came up as one of these reasons that we didn't anticipate so the k-3 was the Mandate we added the additional two grades I'm just wondering what those numbers look like right and so John was that bill 3.5 I don't remember what the bill was uh just less than that the uh first tranche is a little over 3 million um and then there'll be some more uh training and staff development for a couple hundred thousand after that that was the K through three or is that are you giving me the number for K through five right now I'm wondering what that difference was to add those two additional grades um I have um if you'd like I actually have the proposal if if um Ken would like to put it up can that's the one that's called um uh two of two and if you go uh to the middle of that there's a proposal the state had certain ones you could pick from uh keep going Ken into the middle of that um you'll see keep going there's the so there's the um the public act itself that's the you'll see I highlighted the number 21-2 but if you go a little further Ken um in this in the middle there you'll see we have to make our decision uh by next month that's the material that went to the curriculum committee but a little bit more Canon and you'll see what I a little more you'll see a red there it is stop there here's the uh proposal we've accepted um from a company called the American reading company um if you look on the next page that's the first tranche uh is three million it's in that little box there there's uh materials of two and a half but on the next page six pages itemized yeah to answer uh Michelle's point you'll see uh grade ones through um five uh the literacy lab uh followed by some of the reading books and the core and things like that it's it's not broken out grade by grade uh but we could probably do that for you from this uh proposal tool kits and training and things like that I mean I was just wondering if if it was something that we hadn't anticipated and I understand why we you know would want it I was just wondering what the numbers came to just to add those two grades but because I know that we were looking I I believe it was Cairo said we would have done it to eighth grade if we could have so I just remember having that discussion I was wondering what that number looked like but if you could get back to me on that that'd be great yeah yeah I could even send this out appreciate it sure okay thanks so much okay any other questions Terry uh I was reading in the newspaper some of the schools were asking for a delay in implementing the reading program um is that something we had considered at all on that that's correct Teresa so some school districts were provided a waiver there was actually a waiver provided for the entire state of Connecticut um we did not go that route I can tell you that the state of Connecticut did not make it necessarily easy The District in submitting the waiver um but there was a waiver provided for folks um that doesn't mean it doesn't they don't necessarily have to still abide by or Implement some type of Science and reading program but we were prior to the Mandate we were in the market for a reading program anyway and we had just I believe we had just started to Pilot being a reader at our K and first grade levels and and then when the state came out with the legend when the legislation came out around the science and reading program we then of course pivoted you know through the process comprehensive process that we went through with the board and the various committees to land on the American convenient program plan so we we were already out there in the market looking for one um feel like we've landed on the correct one but you know one of the reasons we did not submit the way because we felt like what we had initially was not addressing the needs of our school community of persons thank you no you're welcome yeah all right um if I don't see any other questions John we Mrs Cooper uh not just a quick question because I sort of um skip part of John that 25 million on the first page where there's encompasses that pays for all our bills that we have as I as I foresee it that sort of piling up and that's what we're going to take that 25 million and pay those bill with and that's why we use the word encompasses right uh yeah encumbrances are either one of two things they're either orders that we've placed for goods and services it could be an order and we might encumber for example uh eversource for electricity for the year and then each month subtract 112 um or some of the special ed tuitions some of the um the STA bus money but the so they could be purchase orders um for services we just haven't uh incurred yet but primarily it's the first two numbers up there I don't know if Ken can make it any uh larger but particularly the salaries and what we do is that's those are the salaries uh that are going to be paid out this week I don't know if you heard me talk about the balloon uh payroll that it teaches it's an option in the teacher's uh contract that many of them take advantage of it it because it it allows them to have money in the summer sometimes yeah budget for it so you can see a big chunk of that is going to be gone by Friday and then right under that is uh what's left for our health insurance claims uh they've been coming in about uh last week I think they were five hundred and eighty thousand dollars they've been as high as 900 000 in a week so we still have uh four or five Mondays in June they take the money out on Mondays so so those first two lines are pretty much spoken for okay that's with that thank you yeah okay so Ken if you want to um go there's uh after that sheet that we showed at with all the zeros there's um a landscape page for Grants uh yep uh right after that okay yeah stay right there um so this is the uh same kind of sheet we've been showing uh all year the grant by Grant uh what the budget was what's left um what's encumbered on the very I don't know if someone needs to be muted again okay that's better thank you um the very first grant there the alliance Grant look at the big encumbrance it's 5.6 million uh I mentioned the uh some of the big teacher payroll will come from Grants this week you know our alliance Grant has I think at least 40 kindergarten teachers in it and uh so many of them have chosen uh the balloon payment so that'll go down you could see uh there won't be much left in Alliance which is our biggest Grant uh by the end of this month and and this is what it looked like on May 31st uh I know Karen some of the program people they've been making sure that the plans that we laid out for the the state to approve although many of those won't happen until the summer or the fall but all that money gets used up and that we don't send any money back um and that's it's an objective it's a it's a strategy uh We've uh I've gone out to all of the the program people that manage grants and said here's your here's your balance uh if your Grant is a one-year Grant uh make sure you use it up but a lot of the grants um are two-year grants I call them 24-month grants like the title one and things uh but if you have a 24-month grant that's expiring make sure you use that um so these uh these balances are are considerably lower uh as we speak they've been working very hard on those but what I'd like to point out um is Grant number 37.

evening board president Dr Beau members of the Board of Education superintendent Ortega members of cabinet and our unified community our Career Technical education or CTE program encourages the development of students to be leaders within a career pathway or industry sector one of the ways they can further that development is by participating in competitions held by a Career and Technical student organization or ctso such as skillsusa which partners with students teachers and Industry as they work together to ensure the development of a skilled worker we are fortunate to have Mr Jim Hague teacher at Gladstone High School and previously the skills USA advisor of the year who prepares students as they can compete at the local or state level State winners even go on to compete at the national accomplish at this time let me introduce Mr Jim Hague who I believe has brought two students with them this evening all right good evening board members thank you for the invite thank you Mr Jang for recommending me and uh you know supporting me for all that you have over the past few years and yes so a little bit about skills USA skillsusa is a ctso and we have been involved with the skills USA for the past four years Gladstone has been very very successful in the Years prior uh we yes I was voted National advisor of the year we have basically how it works is this by select students my very best students to compete first at the local level the winners of that will go on to the state level and then the winners of that go on to the National level I'm proud to say that our students have placed each and every year that we have participated during the year of the pandemic we swept the entire competition which is known as Facilities Management now what is Facilities Management I don't know I have no clue and that's why I was National advisor of the year because even though we didn't know we found out we studied we learned we watched YouTube we took the initiative to learn and that's what the kind of students that I have and so that year we wanted went against um States like Minnesota Alabama New York most of the Eastern Seaboard about 11 states we took bronze silver and gold it was pretty nice and this last year I had the honor of uh bringing in four students this time it was live we held it at the Ontario Convention Center I have Mr everardo broke a Taurus over here and another my one of my students Axel Alicia who's not here right now but they Place silver and bronze together uh ever won the the silver and just we had we won the gold we would have been uh in Atlanta so uh we're not giving up uh we are definitely going to keep thriving and I plan on doing this at Azusa High School it has been a an honor and a pleasure to work with these kids to be able to take on situations where we don't know and that's the whole purpose of learning so maybe ever can say a few things hello everyone thank you for having me today um I'm sorry I'm a yes and then I know you have to wait for a year or something um 23. they still have um from their St their senior trip they have to um pay for the driver out of the funds that they um approved so they have to um we need invoice from transportation for the driver and that has to be paid out and then with the remaining I think they voted to disperse that between all the seniors so whatever's left we need to figure out um how to evenly disperse that between all the seniors so that should end at zero yes they had a meeting for that already and we do have requisitions in this in place for the students we just have to wait to get the invoice from transportation to um deduct that payment to see what's left over to to pay all the students thank you no my job no that's it okay um so now I'm going to move on to the um May expenditures so the mno I'm sorry I'll wait till the budget gets put up on the screen yes there you go it's very tiny I'm sorry okay that might be too big um there you go so um let's see the mno reflects a budget balance of 249.75 that's the section right there um we are 11 months into the fiscal year and everything remains in good standing the grants are currently moving expenditures from sr2 to sr3 as we close out POS that is where um Miss Cornell is looking at what has been spent and where she can move money into um e-rate itca and teacher housing expenditures are moved into impact Ada's payments are made depending on the fund balance an overall um I do want to note too that impact a there might be a negative balance in there but we do have quite a few money that is coded to impact aid but is sfb um so we're getting reimbursed for those items so it appears that impact 8 is is negative on this report but once we do get the money back for sfb um we will it'll offset that account so when are you expecting the reimbursement from the school facilities board we have put in um we've worked with the professional group who we've contracted to help us get the monies for sfb and so we're in the process we have sent in the POS we've sent in everything that we have so we're just waiting on reimbursement from them um I don't have an exact date but we have been in contact quite a bit for we have about six projects going right now um so that's a big chunk of money that's coming do you know the total amount that you're um well what we have an essay for sfb right now total is 11 million but um this is kind of in a holding so it's not like we've used the impact Aid yet it's kind of been a holding account and so it's it is sort of like ghost money if you will um so the money is held there and it's not really we haven't used it yet it's just in a holding cell so it doesn't keep us from from using impact aid for other stuff is that the building renewal Grant line item right here 11 million 11 441 411 that is part of it yes yeah and so we're still waiting for more deposits to be put in we received a few um in May but we're still waiting for more and then the eBay is that no that's also negative um yes are we getting something about that we do have deposits coming in I believe um we're waiting for were we waiting for another one Aaron sorry Okay so yes yes so it will remain negative for no when we receive deposit it'll move back it yeah so again this is a budget so we're just it appears and we estimate what we're getting in so the amount might be uh more in the budgeted amount will adjust um at the end of the year when we we after the encumbrance period so overall we have a 40.36 percent or 16 million three hundred eighty thousand four hundred fifty seven and nine Cent budget balance excluding encumbrances and we we have received so far um 26 million sixty thousand eight hundred thirteen and twenty eight dollars in revenues and this excludes funds um eight fifty for Student Activities and 855 for the Insurance Fund do I have any more questions so you're total carryover if any is that 16 million yes that and that's excluding the encumbrances that we have so we're busy closing out stuff um or POS in our system um there are some encumbrances that are tied to some funds that may not have been used so that's what we've been looking into closing out to see what money we're going to have freed up for next year to use on items such as housing Transportation so we've been since December I think we've been trying to close out um POs to see what we have free to get a clearer picture of how we are going to start the new year so what type of peels remain kind of out there what what do you um I believe we have some of the bigger items which is our painting um that has been done to some of the sites we're waiting for invoices for that um those POs to get closed out so we need invoices to be sent from the vendors and then the requester to approve the PO so that we can make the payment on them we also have a big chunk um for Pueblo mechanical who did our AC units so that is a big project that is still ongoing it might roll on into the next year so that encumbrance and that PO whatever is left over that hasn't been completed and paid in this fiscal year rolls into the next fiscal year so in any of those agreements because we're we're trying to work with what we've got and just speaking from experience with that same vendor I've been waiting almost three four months for something and I'm thinking it makes me not it makes me on uneasy and analogousable more so like we shouldn't be waiting for something like that um so what is it and how much what to what degree are we including some sort of a either you're going to do this or we're going to not work with you any further or whatever it may be to somebody because I feel like you're having to balance something that you're not really sure because you haven't received something to say yes this is the actual cost like you said I know you said it jokingly but like guesstimating some of the the stuff is is still gets to me it may not even be that or not so that's just that just caused the question I mean first question in my mind what do you feel like what's your response president with the members of the board we've been meeting at least once or twice a month to look at everything that is open anything that is pending and also putting pressure on some of the vendors that we know that we're waiting for the invoices uh some of the projects that they have been done in phases and they're waiting some of them to complete some of those faces and as they're completing them they're sending it to us um we are being this weekend will on our end and they've been working on getting those uh from some other vendors but you're right um if we don't have that sense of urgency from the vendors we will be more than happy to look at what other vendors have in place because the next step is what can we do to support you because if there's some sort of procedure or policy that we need to put in place to say this is what we go by either you're going to or you're not going or we're not going to enter into any kind of more agreements exactly so do you do contracts with these members okay so in their contracts is it somewhere stated that you know you have this timeline that we need to with these invoices I believe there is a completion date that is stated in the contract um and they I I believe before um I came on there was an agreement to not hit that fiscal year with all of the the um open exactly with all the fee and so it was asked of the company to distribute it um between uh last fiscal year in this fiscal year um I don't know where the project is exactly in this fiscal year I think it's almost complete but if it's not like I said we'll have to roll it over into the next year um and I know Sherry has been uh our accounts payable has been on it calling vendors asking for invoices and then getting with the requester to have them approve it so she can make payment on it um she does an aging so she looks at all the POS that are um open and when they were open and if we've received any invoices to make payments on so she's trying to do her due diligence on that part but um if I may may we request that information at least be shared to the board so we can see what's on that using report especially what's due to us sure sure yeah and that that's what we look at when we meet um a couple times each month too I know we can't do anything per se but I think it would just be good for us to be able to see because we approve some of the projects yes and we're expecting that they're completed when they're supposed to be but that's not on you that's on what they're also entering into an agreement to say okay yeah we're done and if there is any instances where things are held up by the nation or by whatever we're understanding of that but at the end result is I don't like guesstimating but that's just I know that's just how we do it but maybe there's a way we can help to support that some way to get it I appreciate that yes yes we'll follow up on President and we'll put a due date by when we need it and we also I'll review the contracts and also see um if they're not doing their part meeting the end of their deal we'll look for legal cancer and help proceed and again granted a lot of things play a part but there are moments now where I even with the vendor that we're discussing I've gone months without even a response to an email which really makes me angry but that's on the on the other side of what I do so I'm thinking if you're dealing with that then that caused all the kinds of other things to question yeah who are we dealing with and why should we be if we're not going to be treated as a we should we deserve a response B what's the what's the difficulty in invoicing me or getting me what I need I agree um part of our due diligence and what we tried to do is we set deadlines for no you know you can't no more purchases after this date so that we can close out and make a smoother process because that in turn also trickles onto the audit um so oh yeah oh definitely yeah and if you can't close those out by the time you're supposed to start a new budget or by the time you set a deadline to close the previous then yes and you don't even have funding for that because you have to expend it in your current year I mean you should have you had it budgeted for your last year exactly yes yeah good things so the majority of those are happening with outside vendors but we're okay and we're on track with internally everybody's turning in what they need to so that way yes we have a lot of departments that are working with um our AP um to go in and close out accounts they're getting invoices for us they're telling us that um certain POS are okay to close out that they don't don't expect to receive anything else on there um so the team is is working on it so yes thank you the moratorium do you set a moratorium date like four of the physical Year yes like I can't spend past yes um so we our first date our first deadline was in May May 15th um but then we did have quite a few monies left in Grants that we needed to spend so then we extended out the deadline um I believe it was June 10th no I'm sorry I think the first deadline was in April April 15th and then we we pushed it out to May so that we could um spend those monies in the grants that needed to be spent so um anything after May which is supposed to be grant money used but also those items have to be delivered and on-site by June 30th so if they weren't going to be delivered by that date then it wasn't going to be push is there or can you speak to why those grants were not expended by the date that you're intended I I can't I don't know um they just moved money around and they received they had more money to spend than they thought they did are you talking about sites sites yes yeah we had the schools spend out more so they um I believe Mr Figueroa our grants um coordinator got with them and and went over and so they started putting and they were very quick about turning in those requisitions to spend the money so that wasn't that wasn't an issue for us it's just how it was yeah or I know they had some returns to that are waiting in the warehouse so once those items get returned then that money gets put back into that Grant and it needs to be spent president mundia and members of the war and there was also some additional funding that were also were granted that my last meeting for project aware and we also needed to extend some other deadline um and I also have some of my principles here and if they want to speak to some of the CSI Grant and how it was possibly modified um that needed to extend some of the money or the due dates on their CSI grants uh if you're more than welcome to um jump in and elaborate if you had to modify I know we had some positions that would not feel that at the end they needed to modify their CSI Grant as well go ahead sir modify request might be has to go through a process so whether you wanted to spend it or not you'd have to go through a modification process anyway okay no I think I understand I'm not telling you I'm just okay but I think um this these co-vid years have been the crazy years because we've had so much extra money so unfortunately next year well after next year it's going to be a different story back to normal a little a bit more selfish with our money so have you and maybe this is a good time to to ask and request of you what that prediction might be with the monies coming in well you said after next year there's going to be tiny what does that look like well after next year we won't have we won't have the Esser monies after next year so that's all going away um and I think we've been very good about spending the extra money that we've had and using it on stuff that we need but it's it has been that so I don't believe that it will take away from anything that we need or um to run as a district it's just extra money we won't have um so what does that look like though I guess that's what I want to know like what is extra I know that there's some non-negotiables or some probably things that absolutely cannot be yes like the mno in our impact Aid will still be on track um we are going to be very conservative um because we do want to have a reserve and impact Aid so we're we're working very hard on um trying to keep that in line we have are implementing uh budget restrictions in the system um I'm going over that right now with our Tyler our accounting software and with our auditor consultant Karen Smith we are going over um putting budget restrictions on when they enter in POS they have a budget in line and if they go over or they're say they have a budget in a line an account code for five thousand dollars and they're trying to spend six it will not let them um submit that requisition they will have to go back and look at all the other requisitions and see where do we have money that we're not spending it in this open po maybe we can um make this open po 3000 rather than six and then we can move that extra 3000 into the fun that we needed so um those are new things that we're putting into place to help everybody stay in line with the budget because I think that in past it's been allowed to go over and impact they will just make up for it but going forward that's not going to be the case president members of the board there's also four steps that we have discussed as as a cabin cabinet and part of our initiatives for next for next year includes four steps like Christina said the number one every every department is going to get a set a budget and the budget is going to be based on the balances that we will be able to afford and we will not be up we will not be allowing the uh the Departments to go over or the schools to go over into those budgets number two we have set our goals that each year we're going to be allocating a minimum of four million dollars on our Reserve so in the next three years we'll get back to a minimum of 12 million dollars in our reserves reserves um and number three um we have um restricted also for next year um any other any all the traveling that will take place it needs to be aligned to um that with your goals and the initiatives that we will be uh rolling or uh moving forward and the last one is um only programs that support also the three-year goal will be um supported and we will try not to bring any new initiatives um any new major changes unless there are a strategically aligned to what we're trying to accomplish uh we do believe that having those steps moving forward will not only put us on on the positive once again but it will be able to have a healthy budget to make more financially responsible decision for the benefit of our staff and our students so through your budget process and I know that the board has to approve your budget anyway but through your budgeting process and and I think as far as the board on behalf of all stakeholders um what is that who decides what the restrictions are and how how do you go site by site and look at what the priorities are do you determine those priorities or do you just line it up with what we're seeing in your three-year stretch goals we look at the history friend of what has been going and what we expect to receive in the new year is what we look at when we're doing the budget and where it gets allocated um the state is the one that sends out the budgets with the formulas so we do have some restriction where we you know have to spend a certain amount of money or percentage of money in certain areas so we are restricted in that way but we do look at the trend on what we we need um what the sites are telling us that they need the amount of staff that they have at each site goes into play also um so we take all of that into consideration when we're looking and we try to estimate what the increases will be for the next year inflation we look at those types of items also in addition to that we haven't had and we will have we'll have a grant writer um next year so we're hoping that we will see extra monies coming in that way too um sorry I guess Mr Deuce go ahead in the first two months um in my 10 years as superintendent every department and they wrote it to your plan but also they wrote down what was the budget that was needed based on on their the areas that we're working on um specifically when it comes to uh technology they have a five-year plan in what they need um transportation we're working on multiple options and operations I know that based on uh the number of work orders as well as items identified we do have a half a million dollars based on just safety alone plus another 2.5 million dollars needed on repairs so we do know uh what needs to be what we need to be spending the money based on the conversations that we had then we needed to determine in how long uh we're going to be able to then address and attack this list of each department has based on the funding and The Limited funding that we're going to have and I and I only asked I feel like we do have certain pots like CS like CSI you don't we don't technically want to have to get CSI you know what I mean it's it's it's intended for a purpose that I think that we want to kind of pull away from so I'm glad that there's a there's going to be effort to look at other grants that can help but what I do want to make make sure to start doing is be very open and transparent with everyone Staffing all included that in eventuality things like interventionists shouldn't be what we continuously have to look at you know what I mean as opposed to the what what we're what we're seeking for our students so I just I just I just want to make sure we're having that conversation so that it's open and clear and in the open that we've been talking about this and this is not something we're coming out of left field with and that it's not something that we're not planning for but also understand that some of the things that we have been doing have been just status quo I don't want to be status quo anymore we want to achieve and look at greatness as opposed to settling for a c sorry to use that analogy but that's in my office is everybody okay okay that's it I just wanted to make sure because if there's anything that we can do to help support like I said then I want to be able to I appreciate that thank you okay nothing else for the all right okay thank you letter D is our Indian Oasis Indian Oasis are meat intermediate Barbara Curie high school and middle school handbooks are there any questions from the board or comments or do you how do you want to do you want to just if there's any questions answer them if not go forward or I read that there are some things specifically been taken out but I didn't see anything that jumped at me president media members of the board the principles in in the each school they have taken the time not only through you the handbooks but also to align and make changes based on our three-year plan um and also some of the requests that in in in priorities that the board has made it um has highlighted including in discipline um we wanted to give you a gift to give you plenty of reading for the summer so we have provided every single handbook um we'll be more than happy to answer any specific questions that you may have I have every single principle um right now available if you would like um to proceed we can go different ways I know some of you have did not have the time to read the whole package or to see um I can have each principle to point out some other major differences that they have me they made in their handbook for for your awareness that will help you um or you can um give me some directions how would you like to proceed to ensure that you feel comfortable and adopt these handbooks can't be good well I just wanted to make a comment regarding the handbooks and I kind of I haven't read thoroughly through them I know I've noticed you know the highlights I guess I'm assuming those highlights are either additions or changes but I do want to um I don't know I do want to comment on the intermediate the bubble key how you've included that in your handbook and I think in order for our district to be consistent I feel is that I think all they have books should also include that but you know that that that's kind of my opinion but you know that that was the only thing that I and like I said I haven't thoroughly gone through them but I did kind of go out through them and saw where you know they were highlighted I know which again and then just to comment that initiative being a district-wide initiative I would assume that that would be kind of par for the quarters but y'all tell me um that is correct it right now um I want it's part of our in um a strategic plan and a two-year plan that we we're supposed to be implementing RCA engagement in the tone um we do have it in the media that they have um specifically highlighted and pointed it out um based on your recommendations I will work with my principals uh to determine how we can align them as well I kind of I kind of went through all of them but in the um in the elementary there's a section in there and it's kind of way in the beginning and it talks about the um the dress is it the um the face masks and it's it still had in there unless it's changed by now um that it had something about uh must be worn inside the classrooms from the face masks and and I can't remember it's way in the beginning of the the handbook on that first uh the first uh little thing that's what I read do you mind opening up the primary uh handbook um it was one of our efforts to remove as much language from covet so we can go back and double check uh Miss Enriquez Do you have a good time maybe maybe maybe it was removed because I read I read it first and then I read it down the line somewhere else it was diff it was the same it looked like the same handbook can you do a control F in type mask it might yeah it was beef it was one of the the Pre-K wasn't the um we're doing a quick search and it doesn't appear that is there in this document no not that much it wasn't that it wasn't the Pre-K it was one of these I think it's that first one a second page 17 yeah it was on that one okay yeah so it does it does state that so I just wanted to just bring that to your attention but your handbook and and that one is my favorite one out of all the sites because it has the obligations of the of yourself as the administrator it also has um the expectations of the teachers and your expectations so I love that part I love that handbook I love that what you've done with that and I and was hoping that we would see something like that in the new no books because I know I brought that up last year but it did it's it's not in there so um just uh letting you know that principles copy and paste Anna can I request to have the principles um share highlights from their um books their handbooks your highlights if you don't mind coming forward and just give us the major changes that you made on your handbook and give them some of the highlights to our board members and for the rest of my principles if you don't mind going over your handbook and be ready for your highlights um so I did include a memo on the different revisions editions and um yeah that one I think the major thing was we removed all the covid items I did miss that one thank you for catching that um and then we just updated all of the um dates timelines names if needed to be addressed um there was no really nothing really big that changed it was just Minor Adjustments that we needed to make and then make sure that they were aligned to policy Transportation changed we updated that one there was a technology change in I believe some of the fees for next year um so we just made sure to add all of that yeah um yeah please so the love can I ask before you start what's the what's the change to Transportation why was there a change um we have removed all of the coveted language from the Transportation handbook even though now we're going to be now addressing any signatures like we usually do any has to do what anyone any what any moving forward we're going to continue to address any sickness in the way that we um address any other sickness we will not make any exceptions with Kobe okay sorry Miss the changes were pretty much similar to um what Miss Enriquez had said the biggest change as well is on mind our intermediates is that the logo was changed because our Roadrunner was not we kind of stole that Runner Road Runner so um we changed the logo we had a local artist make the logo for us and so I found her at the um at the sales District uh Market that you have yeah and so one of the the ladies there made the the logo for us and so we'll be using this one from now on instead of the Looney Tunes Roadrunner um and then there was another um section that I put in there about the curriculum and instruction so that the parents could understand or they could at least be familiar with some of the vocabulary that when we're talking about instruction what type of program we're using I tried to read it as a parent's point of view of what my if I had a student here then what would they want to know as well as adding the Volvo key because I think yes we implemented it but we haven't really got as much parent participation and parent involvement for them to understand what bubble key is and why we have it and so I try to put it in there as simple as possible and not too much where I'm writing a book and so when we want to try and get them in so they can start learning more about the bubble key but everything else is pretty much the same changes as primary it's good I think that's a pretty good point because the parents are just coming in or they don't know them and students and then um Miss Flanagan and myself and Miss Leyva just got back from house Mania from Ron Clark so you'll be seeing a lot more stuff okay Lewis I just want to say thank you for sharing that with us because when I went through it I didn't even see that the change on that I just I don't know why I I didn't even see that and also with the with the geek that you have highlighted on there like they're all on there so thank you Mr Fox if you don't mind uh coming up until she is a little bit ready and I've been um I put her on the spot today that she's going to represent uh the secondary I understand um I'm not seeing anything for the no no I turned it in it's on the tracker so I can I can address the changes the changes are all very similar transportation technology agreements um we do have a logo a little different logo on there it's it's the baa you've seen it on our board reports barbecue accelerated Academy we do need to add the Bible key and we will make those changes we've tried to mirror it to secondaries so that we have cohesiveness between the two campuses so there's no difference really between secondary and ours names differences there are minor differences but if you looked at them they're coupled together because the schools are kind of lack of better terms joined at the hip we we do things similar our schools work with their schools very very closely did you say you didn't update the Grievances the updated grievances of the grievance policy we're going to take that right out of the district grievance policy whatever that is but we're gonna take it exactly from what the district provides us so that again we are in Unison with the district and the awesome version of The Accelerated Academy is also okay that was going to be across too and I and I just just just to be just to be I don't know um I was hoping we might be able to put the autumn kind of highlight it above and in English below okay yeah absolutely absolutely because I saw I think primary has over the subconscious yeah I'm with you again yeah not that's a piece of cake local control thank you okay thank you guys Miss Leva I know I know it but but I did want to know um there's pretty extensive changes in their regards to like discipline and all of that stuff I I guess if there's anything you want to comment on them this one came to representing the animal proprietary and as I was reading it I noticed that there wasn't like a a detailed explanation of what would happen with the first consequences taking consequence so similar to what I did I just stole it from the intermediate of what I had done there is I just added Donuts so I just asked her to create a more step-by-step like consequences of what was going to happen specifically with the cell phone issue and then everything else I believe were changes that Miss sudam and the team had already decided on prior to me coming along so like the intervention key that's on here with the tier one two two three you had a kind of laid more into that okay oh that's easy too you can see hit your butt are the so I the way it's the way it's set up is that um the bubble kick are they also on there as well because I really like the idea I mean they're coming from the intermediate site and you know how strong it was over there I'd really like to see it happening at the secondary site as well it would just depend on how long I would have to make those changes if that's even allowable because it hasn't been approved yet okay this is just informational this is the information Jesse session okay thank you okay so now um I I read all the um the books Ella Grace couple of hours but I read them but anyway I just want to make one comment on the at the high school where you have vehicles students bringing vehicles to school I know there's a policy um for them or they have to fill out a form and I believe a parent has to sign for that too so I was wondering if that's being used I'm I'm not sure I would hope that it would be but I can certainly make sure that it does I I I'm sorry I don't know okay yeah um that's good and I like all the information that's in there about athletic fees and things like that and there's a and I like it thank you your question is about the um the parking permit for students correct yeah okay question I will be very keen on how many actually have it and you're so cool Mr Diaz president would you support I'll be working with my principals uh to be able to make sure that we make the necessary changes to add the key keys information uh make sure they have the name in Autumn on top and the name in English on the bottom to also include um language related to our three-year goals related to attendance and academics and remove all the coveted language that we still found and we'll be more than happy to make those changes thank you letter is the information item on barbecue Unified School District school science department organizational charts Mr Diaz president and members of the board you have received some of the organizational chart is starting with the um with the district we have to email it to all of the board members but I wanted you to see right now the copy of the organization charts for the schools during the retreat you will be also receiving an organization chart for every other department for to to study for today you'll be looking at the organization chart for the schools Miss uh Sylvia no questions just on the posd organization yes Administration under um Community liaison um isn't that Lois Lewis Luis Luis is my dad I apologize on my decoration oh toa's teacher on assignment right yes it has a Midfield looks good some of you got flashy [Laughter] any other questions you okay okay all right if no other questions will move on letter F is our barbecuing principal reports president when do you have members of the board at this point I will ask once again my principal Mr Enriquez to come in per se no introduce her video as well as highlights on her report good evening again president buendia governing board members Mr Diaz I have submitted my board report in writing I hope you had the opportunity to read it um we started the year with I want to say 320 some students we ended with 341.

so everybody can call in if needed noodles breakfast noodles [Music] so we need a motion for the uh [Music] calendar any discussion [Music] okay Mrs lucky bird yes this is Allen yes budget vote the proposed budget oh yeah so as a result of our executive session so we approve the superintendent's performance pay as uh um decided in the executive session I will make a motion to approve our six or ten space as discussed in the executive decision wait a second just so you know what you're nailing this thank you I appreciate you okay Mrs my neighbor yes Mrs summary yes yes this is from McKinney yes now we go to the proposed veterans for everybody this is not going to take three minutes it's been two hours I will take as long as I need to as long as you will have update okay so on the cover page of the upcoming this is our proposed budget this is the first step in making out of the budgets for next year um in the middle of the right hand side you'll see our estimated estimated tax rates um every as you can see everything there is going down that is due to the fact that we've lost almost two million dollars of our budget and capacity due to not getting tuition for our high school students so with that tax rates so we are looking at a budget of 7.6 million which is roughly 2 million dollars less within our m o programs we are looking at 556 000 within our capital budget programs all of our federal grants we are looking at 791 000 with a total aggregate budget limit of 6.9 million um our average teacher salaries for the upcoming school year right now it's looking at forty three thousand four seventy last year's was 40 000 893 which is an increase of 2577 or roughly six percent developments this is our district contacts down at the bottom of the screen that tells you what the student information system we have what we use is our accounting information system of our bookstore cash receiving system in our District's website here's where we get into the meat and the potatoes if you take a look along the right hand column you will see a lot of the decreases that we have um just there's just for example 43 increase in regular education there is a 73 percent increase in instructional Staffing there is a what am I called 28 decrease in special infrastructure so you see that down to the total bottom of the right hand corner we're losing roughly 26 we're down 26 um Staffing wise we're still looking about the same no major um increases or decreases yeah that's that's really about it I mean if everything is pretty much pretty much the same there are some slight increases in some lines um but just remember this does take into account the 15 increase in health care and the two percent increase in State retirement so everything else it is pretty much adjusted for inflation and then scaled back towards what our actual budgeting is going to do so we added so when we did the budget we increased every line by seven percent and then we figured out how much we were going to have and then we started to cut back from there so we ended up cutting back after seven percent increases on every line we cut back body that's a little over six hundred thousand dollars after taking out the tuition costs the line item number ten find item number ten so that's the school sponsored co-curricular activities um right now we don't have a budget line for it um we didn't spend any money in that line last year so since we didn't spend any long money in it I didn't budget any money for so if we do end up with something in there up in the upcoming year we will you know just readjust throughout the budget and make sure that those expenses we'll give an example uh School sponsored co-curricular activities um so if I was paying for uh the folklorical sponsor out of the ml budget that would be a co-curricular activity expense and then line lie down number 18 18.

now there are a lot of different stipulations on that because some of it has to be used for summer programs some has to be used for learning loss so there's some real specific um guidelines to that and I mean to give you an idea for summer school we have not used any of the Esther funds for summer school yet because we've been using title one now that will the title one will take out so now next year we're going to have to use that uh those those funds we'll use for summer school so again there's just some guidelines we have to take have to use I think the other thing is a lot of our specialist abatement that we're doing this summer will probably come out of Esser funds too you know and that so so there's there's just some things some juggling that we have to do but you know but the key on on Transportation is we get reimbursed next year based on how much we spent this year yes so you're always on a lag yes so it's a lab have they been pretty timely the state been pretty well they were until now uh yeah they they have been uh they've been they've been a heck of a lot better than they have in past years I'll be honest with you uh so they they've been pretty good I think I was going to say they just passed their state their their budget so maybe that wasn't the way there yeah but this it wouldn't have to do with this budget it has it's just that they hold on to the money so they can get more interest on I mean obviously you know so great okay all right so so at the end of the day when we take our snapshot for our financial profile for this fiscal year which is June 30th that's when we take our snapshot correct and you feel pretty good that we are going to be in the recognition yes both of us do yes yes okay are we doing the necessary steps to make sure we get that information into the state oh yes without a doubt yeah that's all the uh Auditor's responsibility okay to do that yeah to do that but everything's been done in a timely manner for the last few years two three years now yes excellent any further questions board members well good job Brian thank you okay you look pretty good at that Podium there that's why we dress the same today I see all right okay do we have any I don't think any any public comments uh no first do we have to see if there's any public comment solely on the on the amended budget yeah do we have any public comments at all on a budget only the amended budget if not if not I would like a motion to close public the public hearing when it's 2022 2023 amended budget so motioned moved by Jamie second by both uh Alex and no no Alex roll call please all right it's like plumpers I Mr swallish aye group is an i Mr Gallegos aye Mr Albrecht aye president Brown aye motion Carrie I have one public comment here by our cmpa president regarding negotiations foreign [Music] Education Association we want to thank our board members Dr Todd Hall and Mr Bill swallowish we want to thank the administrative team for all of their hard work um I've been in the district a long time sat through several rounds of negotiations and I have to say this round of negotiations your Administration team and your board members who came to the table on your rehab listened and really had a collaborative working relationship with us during our bargaining sessions and it's deeply appreciated your team members worked very hard to really hear the needs and concerns of your staff and what we need going forward to make our district the best it can be for all of our families so um just wanted to say on behalf of everyone thank you very much for a very collaborative working relationship and I look forward to that continuing in the future thank you and Mary thanks for your leadership because I know that's what helped it make us make it go so smoothly so thank you appreciate it Mary thank you so this sounds like it may be your last negotiation you could you could come back if it goes this well you can stay a while okay [Music] all right we do all right we do have a kind of an Unwritten but the public person here was here but just didn't understand the exact format but we do have one more public I'll let her get it in one more public comment if I sit there Hudson regarding Awards or giving things out to special needs people okay students good evening everyone um I went to the graduation and I saw a few students there and I was so very proud of them they had special you can physically tell that they were special needs and they had handicaps and I was thinking I also went to the award ceremony before graduation where they was giving out the high school the scholarship to the students that had certain gpas and did except exceptionally well and I thought to myself do they have something like that for special needs students because to me those students work extra extra hard to graduate high school with all the things that they're dealing with health-wise and you know with physical mental or you know their disabilities and for them to graduate high school is a great accomplishment and I'm wondering do you do something special like that you know I know some of them are not going to college so I was thinking you know why not give them a special certificate you know or some kind of plaque or something along with a small monetary donation you know award you know just to show your appreciation and that I'm really really proud of you because I know it was it took something extra for you to make it to that point and I always say put your money where your mouth is if I bring something to the table I'm willing to work do the work to go for it so I've already been talking to a couple of business owners that I personally know and I asked them if I came to them with this would they be willing to donate something you know a monetary donation towards this and they told me to find out how many students were talking about give me some information then come back to me let me know so I don't know if you all have something in place already like that but if not I hope that you would consider doing that thank you thank you thank you I don't know also do we capture that comment and somehow we'll capture that answer respond on on the site okay thank you okay thank you both public taxpayers that spoke tonight and that should conclude on public comments and at this point we move forward to board updates where our superintendent is actually going to update the board regarding board training I just wanted to bring it also to the Public's awareness that the board will be participating in two board trainings um next Tuesday on June 20th the board will be participating at 4 15 in a closed session called starting right it's a board evaluation and so that will be our first official board training with our new board members so that'll be at 4 15 following that will be our regular board meeting opening then at 6 30.

oh wow yeah for the reason I feel like she um great support should I text goalie are we gonna get started okay I'm gonna jump in because you already have a foreign [Applause] okay great all right good evening everyone and welcome to the June 13th 2023 meeting of the Dover uh school committee I it is 5 31 PM I am Beth McCoy the superintendent and I'm calling this meeting to order the first order of business is to welcome our two new members Jesse hole and Martha Castle thank you so much for joining uh the team here and we're very excited to have you feel free to ask questions along the way it's a good reminder to us that we stop and explain things as we go for our new members but feel free to ask thank you happy to be here that said we are starting with a new leadership opportunity so I would like to ask if there is a nomination for a new chair of the Dover school committee yeah Jeff Cassidy uh I've had the privilege of working with with Liz for the last two years and I think she shows commitment to the Dover Schools and education in general um I think she has the best uh best ideas and wanting to make sure all the kids are successful so I would like to nominate Liz Grossman for our new chair thank you thank you any other nomination is there a second for Liz a second book Martha a second any discussion all in favor okay are you in favor and adjusting yeah all right that's unanimous congratulations Liz thank you the meeting is all yours okay I believe the next order of business and reorganizing is we need to nominate a secretary does anyone have a nomination for secretary yeah I would like to do that here at the moment but I would like to nominate goalie as secretary as uh having now one year of experience on the on the team I think she would be well suited taking over a second period do we have a okay second all in favor raise hands discussion any discussion no any opposed okay that was a unanimous vote great okay moving on next we have Community comments is there anyone here to make a community comment before I read the Preamble anyone online there's nobody on Zoom looks like the answer is no we all agree we'll move on okay the first order of business is um we have our PTO current president here Betsy police um we would like to welcome you you were private previously the vice president of the PTO and we're just moved on to taking over um she will be giving us a brief update on this year's pto's accomplishments thank you um for my water I've been talking all day very best here we had our transition meeting this morning our last meeting our party and then I'm here so I've been talking about the PTO for like you know 12 hours um so a lot of familiar pieces here well hello um for those of you who don't know me um my name is Betsy police I um I've been in Dover for five years this is my fourth year on the board and I went up through treasury um VP this past year and then for next year so incoming president and I'm here to give you an overview of our year just like tell you what we've been up to I love lots of fun stuff happening um this up here these are the high points I'm gonna just I'm gonna go through them and then just kind of hit them in detail a little bit more so you have a little more detail but um so the first thing is we were able to host our full Fleet of in-person events this year which is very exciting the first time since 2019 so we did a little bit better the year prior but this year everything really wonderful because a really big part of our community is being able to gather and to meet people face to face and so it was hard having years where we couldn't do that especially being the PTO trying to pull people together so being able to very exciting so this year yay um second we ran 35 curriculum enrichment programs for PK through fifth we spent a little over thirty two thousand dollars doing so and these are all additions to the classroom curriculum so what we like to do is call ourselves the sprinkles on top of the beautiful cake that is already in sugaring schools curriculum so we sprinkled 35 curriculum enrichment programs this year and um and they were really really enjoyable for all the kids we supported our Educators with 11 700 in discretionary funds that is doled out in increments of 250 per educator and we had a record setting 90 of Educators in the classrooms submit for their discretionary funds very exciting for us we've been trying to up the number for years so 90 is very strong um and then we uh so 90 of classroom teachers and 75 of Specialists so it was a high high amount this year uh we supported our teachers with seventeen thousand dollars in teacher grants that is our typical five thousand dollars and then we had a surplus of twelve thousand dollars from our auction that we chose to using for Grants so we did so well in our auction um in 2022 that we were like we are going to take this group recruiting money this twelve thousand dollars and we're gonna accept Grant proposals and so um we were able to develop the money in that way which was I think um really great I hope we can do it again the next auction I hope we're not successful because that would be that would be great um and then lastly 3700 in Hospitality that's teacher appreciation week that's dinner snacks gifts all the fun stuff for the teachers and um and we love doing that that is fun lastly we had a very successful fundraising year we had our check writing year this year um we totaled 50 we noted sorry 57 203 um which is high our goal was 35 000.

oh boy almost a turnover right there but Bridget Jordan does a great job to pick up that low pass I like to see this here by East Longmeadow no rushing giving everybody a touch of the ball taking their time giving East Longmeadow defense an opportunity to catch their breath in a breather Patty Jordan has it she's going one on one she goes into traffic there's three people on her she Ducks down and she is going to get herself an eight meter opportunity a very strong attacker who's got a who's got a knack for finding the back of the net from just about any location very quick First Step here coming in she fires it hit really good stick check there from the side normally Addie Jordan that's an automatic but a really quick First Step there by uh Notre Dame Hingham and was able to deflect it now Notre Dame Hingham moving the ball around and they're just this is just like a patented move there's been no opportunity for a really good ride here by East Longmeadow and then here they are again one minute later they are back on defense and it's just spinning them around they're tired morno out there covering Talia Weiss has just been running around she's just running around in a big in a circle here she's got to be exhausted good pressure there by test and all this is going to be a shooting space violation again they're just hanging out there's no footwork on defense right now for East Longmeadow they are gassed they're watching the ball they're not really being able to pick up and I just think it's you know part of it's mental but they're they're just tired they're just tired they're up by 10 goals the clock is going to continue to run and lacrosse if a team in women's lacrosse or girls lacrosse when a team gets up by 10 goals what happens is the clock continues to run there's no clock stoppage so even when a goal goes in ball goes out of bounds eight meter shot whatever penalty doesn't matter what it is clock continues to run so it's really imperative right now that East Longmeadow win one single draw control and get the ball into the offensive end and then do something with it it was a little bit of an opportunity last time Addie Jordan had a chance here comes morno and morno is fighting she's only got really one to fight with so there's not really much he can do and again it's the draw control I mean it's just it's almost like they just see it and they want it more they're getting all the 50 50 balls but even if I'm being here comes Colin Colin going in another shooting space violation I feel like I'm repeating myself over and over again shooting space violation but here we go Colin great player moving on to a gonna have a great college career somewhere puts it in the net another one another goal up by 11 goals 15 minutes remaining gonna get a sub right here Grace reuphold coming in Hannah Taft gonna get a little break somebody on defense I'm sure Hannah Taft is exhausted as are all of the Defenders for East Longmeadow [Music] here we go fall goes back and this is going to be gets just automatic it's comedy again no surprise there nothing Eddie Jordan do the ball went literally up high connerty was able to get it she's probably the best I've actually seen so far this year on the draw on the draw Circle and I just think number 14 has been doing a fantastic job on the draw no matter who East Longmeadow has thrown out there uh Aubry McMahon has just been spectacular in directing the ball wherever she wants it to go so now you've got number five I mean every player it seems like on Notre Dame Hingham has had an opportunity on the draw on the on this shot and it's in again Alexa Kenny puts that one in on an eight meter foreign doesn't look like there's going to be a comeback here from East Longmeadow and you know they're certainly going to give it their all here for the remaining 13 and a half minutes of this game it's been an absolutely spectacular season all in all for East Longmeadow there's no shame whatsoever and losing to this Notre Dame team and there's actually no shame in even losing to them by a lot of goals they have beaten up on everybody all season long by 10 goals or more they hammered our clock our Crosstown they hammered our Crosstown our Crosstown rival long they've hammered just about every team they played I think there was only one team Westwood a spectacular division one team that's making its way to the division one State final that got within one goal of Notre Dame Hingham but still weren't able to to bring them down look there like number 21 was looking to do a btb pass or shot Riley Walsh great stick control there finds her way past test and all gonna get a shooting space violation there on Grace Howard or maybe it's good maybe they're just going to call it a three second violation no it looks like it is it going to be an eight meter it is going to be an eight meter Riley Walsh getting an opportunity an eight meter and that one goes also goes into the back of the net for a goal eighteen to five we've gone through 13 minutes here East Longmeadow quite frankly has not even had a possession they've had one offensive possession I believe and 13 minutes of play they have been unable to do anything on the draw control Circle every time that Notre Dame Hingham has had the ball they have gone down and scored apart from two unforced turnovers where they were able to get Possession looks like they're trying something new here on the draw Circle putting Addie Jordan in a different position it's flipped out and only because of an error is East Longmeadow able to get a possession they do it goes to Kenna Marino Islam Meadow really just needs to take its time here take its time take ball passes it down low to maybe it's Mana Calabrese I'm not really sure it is it goes over to Addie Jordan Eddie Jordan Calabrese oh boy Calabrese gets through takes a low riding shot easy save there for the Notre Dame Hingham goalie an outstanding senior goalie saw that one coming was able to get it here comes a pass to a wide open player not sure referees probably just letting some things go right now because the game is out of control they're not calling the shooting space there were two shooting space violations right there thank you and a Taft coming back in the game Grace reuphold coming back out gave Hannah Taft a little break right there [Music] and a draw control won by Islam medal thinking Moro has certainly has a lot of energy left not not much has been going on here for on the offensive side of the ball for East Longmeadow Caroline lukasik trying to take some people on and ball comes out of the stick almost immediately and possession for Islam at most and now they are back they're going to try to pick up the clear and put their ride on let's see what Eastlawn metal can do here putting in a very solid effort Siobhan Collins got the ball makes one quick move past Grace Howard moving down Hannah Taft gets knocked down to the ground not sure little penalty there by Grace Howard a little push in the a little push in the backhand a tap looks like she may have suffered a small it this is okay well not sure whose person that was but uh it didn't really work out so good there for islamino that was absolutely wide open like I said it just looks they just look exhausted on defense Calabrese coming out lucasic coming out macarini back in Bridget Jordan and Angelina trulio there still keeping Camarino on the field well Connor he's out of the game so this now is a opportunity maybe for East Longmeadow to win the win a draw see what they can do morno steps up the line it's up in the air not sure what happens here but it's you know it's just hooked up foreign they do have too many players on the field for sure it looks to me does look like they do have too many players in the field so there's going to be a penalty of some sort here they do they absolutely have an extra player in the field I'm not really sure I'm not really sure coach there's an extra player on the field I really I can't figure this out now I know why somebody's wide open it's because they actually Notre Dame Hingham has an extra player on the field there are 12 field players plus the goalie you can see it now they've got three four five two four two three four five six seven they have eight players right now in the offensive zone I don't know how that happens now she comes off the field now somebody else goes on I'm really not sure what's going on here foreign it looks like the refs have finally caught up to the fact that they have too many players on the field it took them about five minutes to do that you could see it up here for Notre Dame actually 13.

that's that's um sr3 uh that was the big one now it's the one that you know came in it uh we're starting the third year it came in at 25 million dollars uh you can see there's still uh 10 million dollars left um this will be a good segue uh into what Kevin talks about in a minute um of that uh 10 million we could take two million off the top right away we're going to need that for substitute teachers uh which I mentioned either the Kelly Services or the uh overloads or even the period coverage we think that could be 2 million next year and this is uh where we're going to account for it those costs are not in the school operating budget so that'll leave about 8 million um Kevin will describe what we want to do that will all be designated but um you know then that's the end of the to all of the Esser grants and as you look down if you go down another couple pages and you'll see the total of the unspend grants is 12.5 million but 10.8 is that single Esser Grant so uh yes there's a a million or so of unobligated grants many of those are 24-month grants so those those will be used uh eventually uh but there's not a lot of money anymore uh sitting I say sitting in the grant fund um if you went back uh two years when we had all three of our our covid or our Esser grants um that we had just received you would have seen a much different uh picture so that's um that's the story on Grant's happy to answer any questions about grants uh any questions from committee members to start I have a couple quick questions John um I know that there are some negative balances running on some of those grants uh could you speak to why that that's showing up yes um so uh Ken if you go back to the first page uh let me go to the uh Grant number and I'll also Grant number 42.

managers of the Year our managers include site and District administrators and coordinators directors assistant directors psychologists and confidential employees and their work spends the entire District but the one unifying quality is leadership leadership involves Vision courage and most of all a deep compassion for the people that one serves and the leaders have Vision that includes imagination foresight knowledge of people knowledge of themselves policies and the law courage is also equality that leaders must possess it's that internal fortitude that is required to keep moving forward when it's difficult or unpopular courage is also displayed when engaging in difficult conversations but most of all leadership requires a deep and unshakable passion for people it is it is not just about the relationship it is about taking a sincere interest in the people once they're Board of Education and guests I am happy to report that we have an outstanding outstanding team of leaders that make up our management team picking just one person to that to serve as a manager of the year is an impossible task in a moment you will hear about the finalists for the managers of the year they all possess the qualities that I just uh discussed in their responses to our questions they spoke about our students their work with staff and teachers our parents and our community and a genuine genuine interest for our district these finalists also spoke about the challenges they faced and have overcome and each of them spoke with such great and gratitude for the work that they do day in and day out for our for our students and for our staff before I turn it over to our cabinet members I want you to know that this type of leadership just doesn't happen by itself this type of leadership is modeled over time it is cultivated and cared for and ultimately becomes a part of our culture these values are certainly demonstrated in the managers of the Year finalists our finalists are certainly he was the resource teacher at Valleydale and previous to that he was a teacher at Lee Elementary School along his journey there are three specific touch points that have given have given me a full insight into Mr Trejo and his leadership capabilities and I want to share those with you the first one came when the former principal Miss Adriana Garcia Medina was named as a director here at the district office I reached out to her and asked her if she thought oracio could finish the school year as interim principal Miss Garcia not only said yes she gave her unwavering support for oracio and his abilities and his growth once he became the interim touch Point number two came into play it was not long before he took over Valleydale where I began to directly hear from staff and from parents about horacio's positive presence and their explicit desire asking me to please consider leaving him as principal at Valleydale Elementary School and the last touch point because we know the story he was named the principal um I was at Azusa High School graduation last week and at the end uh I was uh walking out after the graduation and a parent came out of their way uh to me and said Mr Ortega Mr Taylor I just want to I want to share with you how happy I am and how happy my child is at Valleydale Elementary School how happy we are in the Dual language immersion program and how happy we are with Mr Trejo as a new principal have been able to see how dedicated and hard-working Mr Trejo is uh he demonstrates uh that he's not afraid to ask questions receive feedback and learn as much as he country on her own you never are complacent you continue to fight for a better way daily you understand the vision and the goal of this district and of your department you are not entitled because we both know we are not afforded that ability I remember when I arrived at ausd one of the main things that was served to run a meal line was tortillas and peanut butter many could not understand how this was unacceptable for me because it checked all the boxes but you were the one that understood that even though the items were allowed that does not mean it's acceptable for the students that we serve we have had many conversations dreaming of what it would be like if the playing field is Playing Fields were level though we may never experience this daily you continue you understand the importance of starting small and focusing on what you can control as my girl Michelle Obama told me she told me to tell you girl Michelle said um she said it is hard for us to find our light when we're dealing and we're feeling defeated and unsupported I'm grateful that you have found your life which gives you the drive to continue to push forward I cannot and I cannot claim the credit for this I'm grateful that you have had the chance to collaborate with someone that is truly exceptional just like you the light that we carry is in all of us and it is our responsibility to share our life Stella you have an outstanding ability this recognition is just the beginning your kind-heartedness characterize your leadership style your drive empathy determination perseverance is unparalleled and just two weeks ago before we had this interview when she came to work all dressed up student debuted she shared with me that she didn't feel that she was deserving on this world of the support because she has not been with the district currently for more than a year but honey let me tell you about the receipts so in spite of you have increased the breakfast participation in spite of your obstacles you have brought back scratch cooking and spite of all that we go through you continue to provide our students with meals that they can enjoy and in spite of you have successfully obtained grants that offer training and purchase new equipment for our students and in spite of through the month April you and your fabulous team have served over 7 000 meals and a thousand suffers 180 000 Peppers this year this I share to remind all of us that it's not the duration of time that should matter but it's the results that we produce this year all the nominees that were recognized um for in their current roles despite have not been here a long time they are being honored today I know that this year was a year of compromise you have said many tall goals that you may have feel that you have not achieved I know the pressure that you put on yourself because you have high expectations but just remember if you are compromising today on your journey that does not mean we need to give up because that's simply a compromise for the states so in 2024 that's gonna be your next day and when I tell you I have my popcorn I'm ready to watch the Stella show dedication you have for the students and the drive you have to improve what offerings we offer students in Azusa Horacio had a few moments with you a couple of weeks ago where we had to handle a situation that wasn't so pleasant the school and I saw your drive for your passion and I really thought that I wanted to learn something from you because for me life is always a lesson you were so calm during the conversation and I get hyped up sometimes but just listening to you talk to the employee showed me that being calm and listening to the employee can change your pathway so I saw that in you um so one of my role models is indranoi former CEO of Pepsi instead in a talk that she recently gave she openly shared her struggles about balancing professional life and her personal life she tells a funny story about raising two young girls and at one of her daughter's schools they had coffee with Mom every Wednesday at 9 00 am and she missed several of those important engagements initially she felt guilt that every mother feels when they miss an important school activity but she learned to develop coping mechanisms I'm not a CEO of a Fortune 500 company I'm a lunch lady who has the responsibility of ensuring over 700 students enrolled in our school district received the best meals we can provide with a budget of five dollars a day for lunch and three dollars a day for breakfast but like Mrs Noy this year has been one of the most challenging for us as a team and my team and I have learned to develop copy maker see them nodding their heads because they know developing coping mechanisms means building strong networks with colleagues and family to help you manage your day and your career and personal life this recognition is a dedication and my way of showing gratitude to my network first and foremost I'd like to thank God my mom is here with me today and she taught me the value of Prayer there are many days I woke up at five in the morning and I felt I couldn't do it I was tired the phone calls start coming in at point for nutrition services my managers are here and they can tell you that my mom sees me struggling every day to get ready attend to phone calls for work read my emails and also get myself out of that door on time um I would also like to thank a school board for always voting yes on anything nutrition services it really made my work easier I know that you are here to review policy but I do appreciate a support um superintendent Ortega in my career as a food service director you are the first superintendent who came to my office to check on me when I returned to Azusa make sure I was okay that meant a lot to me not so many superintendents do that thank you Norma okay thank you for always supporting my auto books ideas my boss this is Jamal my boss has very very high expectations but she's the most supportive person I've gone to her with several ideas how to improve our meals how to change setting lines how to the ability to really break down the four walls of the school and reach into the community is something that's going to be a model not just for Colorado but for the nation um as you might have heard I am out of DC and already um there is a very generous philanthropist who is so interested in the idea of creating equity in the way that you're doing it and in a bilingual way that he's offered to he's provided a grant for some of the work that we're going to do in creating this Collective impact model that's going to unite the entire Community around literacy so I just want to tell you how excited we are to um hopefully begin our work together um I know that you're going to see wonderful results and I just thank you for uh in advance for any support that you give us um it's going to be a wonderful wonderful um program so thank you so much thank you Miss Eileen um so uh yes we are very excited uh this pending your approval and consideration this will include opportunities for parents at literacy University uh for play date for our younger ones for the ability to access quality books online that are in English and in Spanish with read alouds and just a lot of opportunities for students especially our um zero through four years old students to have access to high quality material so we are very excited and as we continue in our efforts to ensuring that all of our students have access to Opportunities and and high quality books we we're excited to um to potentially partner with with them in this effort so I uh our next my next update very quickly we met with cognia earlier this month we continue working with cognia today well throughout currently working with cognia as we explore and look build and ensure that there are systems to monitor any infrastructure any framework any system or protocol that we have that will ensure there is continuous improvement in our district in all areas so we are very excited to continue the partnership in exploring this with them um we're also excited about the Academy's work that our team has has endured in it made I mean it has been really um it has been a marathon because in a very short period of time there was a huge engagement from a community from our students our parents in what they wanted to see in the academies and I am very pleased to announce that we are on on target we are on schedule to open uh the the doors of the academies next year with 91 percent uh as of probably last week so maybe that has changed 91 percent of our incoming ninth graders from the two middle schools enrolled and registered in one of our academies they're excited so I just I just want to thank the team for for that work and one more opportunity that we have to really provide our students with opportunities in high quality activities and and learning experiences for them part of that is also the expansion of our social emotional supports and services so we're working at all levels elementary middle and high school on that that is one of the primary goals and objectives from the work of our strategic planning group the families we've heard it from students Community from the board so I'm very excited about about that work and um lastly Pre-K enrollments we are opening our opportunity for all three years old and four years old students to come in and have a full day Pre-K opportunity for them we have currently 159 three-year-olds three years old students registered and we continue having more that are coming on the wait list now and we have currently 294 years old students registering I will have space for a few more before we start putting four years old on a wait list as well but we are very excited because at this time last year we had less than half of the students registered for pre-k so we are expecting that we're gonna double our numbers and offer pre-K in every Elementary School moving forward I'm starting next year so those are my updates Madam president thank you so much Dr Lydia um thank you to our guests from footsteps to Brilliance for joining us um I am super excited about the academies uh rolling out and I'm so pleased to know that so many of our students middle school students already enrolled and ready to go um we got to see some some pictures from our continuation events if any of you were able to join those and to see the great way that the staff put together that event but to see the students open up their envelopes like acceptance letters and their eyes and they were sharing you know I got in the school and then they got to go to the back and get some items for their specific academies and it was just great so I'm excited about that and then I'm also excited um for all of the enrollments in our Pre-K um I think that's something so huge and needed in our community um which again I hate to put it out there but that's why we harp so much on um that need it is something that is very much uh displayed and evidence in our community and I'm excited that we get to have that opportunity at each of our elementary schools next year that's a lot of work so thank you to staff for for all that you're doing to get that going awesome um board members I know I talk all the time any questions comments great thank you Dr Lydia oh right [Laughter] yes next on the agenda is our budget presentation um Dr Lydia would you please introduce this item thank you madam president members of the board for a moment I panicked because I thought it was part of my updates but then I remember was a separate item so I would like to ask our chief finance officer Mr Doug Moss to come forward we do have a presentation and hearing the feedback thank you students thank you students yes we're proud of you keep working hard um so what we have tonight Madam president um and members of the board community members is an overview of the budget process we are as as you know we are in the process right now of restructuring our central office It Is our commitment to ensure that three things happen as we consider how we move forward to better support our students the first one is that the board goals or ends are met you have a duchess goals you have um goals that are focused on students student growth student achievement and innovation in ensuring that there is sustainability of anything that we bring forward the second piece is to ensure that all resources are closer to our students we have been in in a declining enrollment pattern for the last 15 years maybe 18 years the demographer called it out many years ago our young families or kids are not having families or babies as you know probably as fast as we were when we were their age or soon in in our in their lives and that is resulting in a consistent decline enough enrollment not only here in in our district but also around Denver in quite Frank in Colorado and the third thing that we are looking at as we consider this budget in the restructure is to ensure that there is equity for everybody the way that we are establishing our processes to look at employees our supports where people are you know they're in the right seat providing the right support being very responsive to the needs of the families we the needs of of our community the feedback that we get from the board as as you represent your constituents the feedback we hear from principals uh from that this is the result of us listening to that feedback and organizing ourselves in a way that in ways that will provide the supports in in anything that is necessary for students it is a changing need all the time so we need to adapt to them so we have been restructuring central office uh at this point I think it's over two million dollars in Savings in central office uh 750 around 750 000 at the at the leadership level I'm not going to call that a savings because again we're ensuring that we are pushing down those supports and resources closer to our students and um and that is evident in the things that we're bringing forward so today is an overview as we continue with the restructure we're going to uh encourage you to consider adding a a study session before June 27th so that we can truly engage in deep conversations about this and Mr Moss is here um and he's going to provide an overview so that um not only new board members veteran board members but also the community understands the big picture before we go and dive into numbers welcome Mrs good evening uh Madam president members of the board Dr Lauria and the community that are out there listening uh this is just going to be a kind of a quick overview as to what uh we're at right now we are making changes daily to the expenditure side and trying to generate more Revenue as we go so see if we can get this baby to work yeah um so tonight is basically just an overview of the budget uh a work session possibly next week hopefully sometime prior to the adoption of the budget and the approval of uh the appropriation resolutions uh the authorization of a beginning or the fund balance usage if we need to the way it looks right now we are but hopefully we can get this balanced out a little better than what it showed here a week or two ago we're working day and night it seems like we were here almost missed the Denver game last night I got home for the last two minutes so oh man but I I hear I got to see the best part so well I'm right there with you I had meetings and I missed most of it as well so a little sympathy no so then in uh probably uh November December time frame we'll receive our audit we'll make adjustments to our budget if necessary uh then we'll submit a supplemental budget to you guys and we'll start the process December have it adopted in January if needed okay um fiscal stewardship that that is something that uh we uh as a team here and also you as as members of the board we are stewards of the public dollars we we have to we are bound by laws rules and regulations as to how we spend the money um we are constantly under a microscope as you can say and we try to be as transparent as possible and so you know results in programs we try and beef those up and like Dr Lauria said um yes we are cutting in some areas but it's going right to our students and that's the people that need this these dollars so we are trying to be watching our our spending on a monthly basis uh quarterly we have to come to you and and by law and and give you an update on revenue and expenditures and funds so um within the District budget overview we try to align our vision and goals to you guys's goals um we allocate on a multi-year basis there's some contracts out there that are multi-years so we have to have to provide those dollars as needed um yeah and we we try to communicate our financial strategic plan as much as possible to you guys because you guys are the ones making the decisions for the district it's not us um Dr Lauria she brings it to you guys you approve or disapprove and then we move forward there again uh state law requires us that the school district submit a balanced budget sometimes we have to use fund balance to make that balance work um and and we uh by a policy within the district we have a five percent Reserve that we have to have we are over that amount so in the near future within the next five years we'll be having meetings on a yearly basis as to how much you want to use on that fund balance do we want to bring it down and increase for academic uses um so yeah we try and maintain at least over that five percent and there's also the three percent paper Reserve that we have to maintain as well within the school Finance formula this this last year um this is what uh the wonderful legislators decided to give us this year and it pretty good um it could be better of course but they uh the inflationary Factor was eight percent and we have but should have received more but because of our declining enrollment it takes it away so we probably would have had about two 2.5 million dollars more but with the decrease in funding of students it took it away they did generously finally buy down 180 million dollars worth of the budget stabilization I call it the negative factor um for Adams 14 that was almost 1.5 million dollars that they bought out so we received 1.5 million dollars more which was good and then remaining for Statewide there's 141 million dollars left Adams 14 we have about 1.1 million dollars that they took away this coming year next year they're proposing that they're going to wipe it out so and then we're anticipating over the next 5 10 15 years hopefully they don't bring that thing back and we'll be at zero so we'll be actually getting kind of fully funded again so if we can get our numbers for students to increase we'll be a lot better off um for uh this school year compared to uh next school year next school year where we should receive around 11 11 342 dollars per student last year it was ten ten thousand one hundred ninety eight dollars so this year an increase of 1144 dollars per student we should receive now if we get more students that's just going to help us out more so we've got to really focus on trying to bring our students back and get them away from the charters or even leaving um our funded people count for the 23 24 years projected to be at 5 516.

and then uh we also launched and concluded the city's first resident race to zero energy initiative uh which had over 100 participants working to um you know see see how far they could get their homes uh to um zero energy and also collaborated with the Ann Arbor Housing Commission to secure three million in federal aid to advance Net Zero Energy affordable housing in the city um the next couple strategies are going to be a little quick because they're lighter on energy but again feel free to check these out to see all the other great things that are happening um for strategy four which is reducing the miles we travel in our vehicles by um we supported an Ann Arbor Area Transit Authority propulsion study that was looking at different solutions for achieving carbon free busing um we talked about the EV charging earlier and a different strategy um but for strategy five which is our circular economy or changing the way we use reuse and dispose of materials we worked with a group of University of Michigan policy students to develop an initial framework for reducing embodied carbon in our buildings which goes hand in hand with some of the other work we've been talking about with new buildings and energy usage um and then strategy six uh which is enhancing the resilience of our people and our place um a lot of the work at least energy wise is around um resilience hubs um so just this past week um we uh officially completed the second resilience Hub in Ann Arbor uh which is located at the Bryant neighborhood community center uh now has solar and storage on it so it can continue to operate in times of emergency as well as providing um you know financial and other resilience benefits in normal operating times um this goes hand in hand with um uh our our first resilience Hub which is at the North Side Community Center also operated by Community Action Network um which was established and we also operated and staffed it during the ice storms um it was open for five days and provide had power the entire time offered people a warm place to stay if they needed uh cook a warm meal charge up their devices and some folks uh were able to stay overnight um I also wanted to mention broadly our a20 ambassador program grew to 85 members who've gone through that training um particular one to mention this because our applications are now open so if you know anyone who is interested in that program or if you yourself are interested I encourage you to apply um going into our broad strategy seven which is stuff that kind of overlaps every strategy or you know it just goes across multiple strategies um we worked with uh Ann Arbor Public Schools in Washington County to complete their greenhouse gas emissions inventories um and for the second year in a row Ann Arbor was recognized on the cdp's A-list as one of uh 122 cities and counties across the globe that are taking uh bold action on leaders or bold leadership on environmental action and transparency um as we've covered extensively but it did just happen this past year uh we voted to become the eighth community in America to tax ourselves and fund local climate action uh through the 20-year climate action millage um and then just to run through a couple grants that were successful related to energy I've touched on them a little bit here but just to go into a little bit more detail and cover a few others um we have the Energy Efficiency and conservation block grant uh it's 180 000 which will be used to make the Bryant Community Center a carbon negative building as well as a living demonstration site of what is uh what is possible in the community um the uh through mishta their My Hope program was five hundred thousand dollars which is that worked to decarbonize uh the homes in the Bryant neighborhood um the U.S department of energy had a we were awarded a community geothermal planning grant for 580 000 to start designing a district geothermal system in the Bryant neighborhood including the houses the school uh Community or uh County mental health facility and the city service center uh we were awarded technical assistance through the clean energy to communities program to identify data needs and draft a request for proposal for additional District geothermal uh in the city um through the state of Michigan twenty five thousand dollars to support LED lighting conversion at the wheeler service center uh the semcog carbon Reduction Program was nine hundred eighty thousand dollars for that led street light conversion across the city um in the state of Michigan award is 54 000 to install the state's first utility pole EV charging program which is currently underway and then just to conclude I just wanted to share some of the priorities we have for the upcoming year many of these are things we have we've talked about previously but also wanted to put on here as we start um you know continuing to think about um you know our different agendas going forward and also things you can you can expect to be seeing coming uh down the pipeline here um we look to formally launch the a20 assessment path to zero for all residents uh which will be part of that energy advisor program which again helps people identify what they can do to get their home uh to zero uh we'll be launching a series of residential rebates and incentive programs through the community climate action millage uh working to install an additional megawatt of solar to get to five megawatts of rooftop solar through solarize um continuing our work to break ground on the wheeler Center solar park on the city's Camp landfill uh collaborating with Washington County and other Regional stakeholders to expand all the work we're doing here across the county um continue growing the momentum and support in the Bryant neighborhood to fully decarbonize 20 homes in the neighborhood um continuing to investigate Pathways to achieve our 100 renewable energy goal uh with um with a strategy brought to council for formal consideration by the end of the year um we want to be deepening and sustaining Community engagement particularly focusing on engagement underrepresented communities which can definitely be an area where energy commission can can help with that goal um deploying 50 or more EV Chargers completing an additional two rounds of A200 ambassadors which again uh currently open for applications um as we've discussed a few times uh finalizing and formerly formally launching um the green rental Housing Initiative and the home energy rating disclosure initiative um making uh as I mentioned making the Bryant Community Center a carbon negative building and using it as a demonstration site for the city to be a living learning laboratory for climate action um continuing and creating our third and fourth resilience hubs in the city installing four megawatts of solar at City facilities including multiple energy storage systems and finally fully launching the a20 home energy advisor program which again uh formerly known as the energy concierge so that was a lot of things and I went through very quickly um totally fine if that bored you to death and you forgot everything um like I said there's many more things in there that are not energy related that but are just as important um for reaching our goal of a20 uh so encourage you to read that if that is of interest um if anyone has any questions or clarifications or anything like that happy to answer uh what I can I have a quick question um the oh sorry go ahead measurement what I'm going to say is nice job go for it totally agree great job great job and it's pretty exciting to see how things are starting to stack on each other and uh like the beginnings of like the momentum snowballing uh we're starting to see um so my question is like when will the SCU report be published do you know um the from my understanding some of the details have you know been slowly shifting it seems like late summer early fall is the latest is what I've heard um but like I said some of those details have been slightly changing and I'm not necessarily in those uh discussions but that's roughly the timeline I've I've heard all right and then I have um another they kind of like two-part question and they put basically two questions having to do with EV charging um the um curbside installation is that the one that's over there uh the the Kingsley in um an English Street Corner up there um that I'm not 100 sure I can check with Simi and get back to you on that um sounds right but and then also the utility pull EV uh Chargers again is that where it's going to be it was in the same space or is it a different part of the city I'm just curious yeah I'd have to check on that as well go sorry go ahead that's fine that's it that was it okay yeah I know they were looking at um different areas that would you know be be connected be closer to like um multi you know developments um our attendance was a roller coaster this year um I'm hoping no I can't stop saying hoping um next year we will increase the attendance school-wide we have a plan in place we've been planning this year on what we're going to do to increase that attendance um if you could scroll up and then the major highlights is we have been partnering with the United Way and the um Head Start first things first and they provided all of our Kinder through first grade students with 12 brand new books um they set it up like a a book fair and the kids got a bucket and they went in and they got to pick 12 books to add to their summer Library um our read and respond challenge that you won't see in the video they earned 1 633 pieces of duct tape to take me to the wall and the biggest thing at our site and we are so thankful to jom for purchasing our new vending book machine um they the kids as you can see they after they're done eating lunch that's all they do is they go stand by the book machine and say I want that book I want that book it came with these cute little coins so we are going to develop a plan on how they will earn those coins so that they can visit the book machine and so now we can go to the oh I don't know if you want to talk about data president mundia members of the governing board um I want to be make a big shout out if you take a look at the report when you look at November and December attendance which was in the 70s um and uh all of the work and effort from this school and how they have changed and increase their attendance our goal is 90 by school by grade level and by teacher and I want to point out that I want to give a big shout out to the third grade teachers that they earned 92 percent attendance and also back in December there were 79 so they the major gains in attendance and um also to congratulate Ms Enriquez because it was only one point away to meeting not only the 90 by school but also one grade level that has exceeded and she has a couple of grade levels that they choose only as keeping a hub to be able to reach the 90 congratulations for all the hard work secondly when you have time take a look at how she reduced the minimally proficient to almost zero in many many areas just when you look at the graphs I'm very happy to see the growth in from the pre and the post if you look at the non-profession that went from um the left and the beginning of the year to the right at the end of the year how he has decreased and how she continues to increase um in every grade level the bars on the other and the other proficiency levels I'm very proud of the work of the students and the teachers thank you so much for the growth as well [Applause] video thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] you know what you way over here I want to please I want to convey and share a shout out for that actually you're probably gonna do it huh go ahead no I want to give a shout out again our attendance goal is 90 attendance by school and by grade level and by teacher I want to point out and I want to give a big shout out because as a school they have reached also the 90 percent attaining so let's give them a hand by grade level two out of three grade levels reach over 90 percent attendance and we have one grade level that was one point away to reach the 90 attendance so we have two out of three agree levels that have reached that ninety percent goal so please let's give him a hand we also want 90 by teachers and I want to give a big shout out to the following teachers they have reached the 90 or above attendance Mr Flores uh Martin um Mr Cody um hilwa miss hilwa Mr Marcos Mr Bala all of them ninety percent and above let's give them up again thank you for the hard work back to you Miss Piggy Lewis thank you um good good evening board members and superintendent Ruben Diaz so um I hope you had a chance to read my report I did want to add that um or welcome you to our event for June 23rd we will have the Tucson Police Department and uh one of the retired generals attorney generals coming to the intermediate campus to drop off some we want to start a partnership with them so they will be coming with police officers and their cars all dressed up they will be coming and delivering toys and backpacks and school supplies and then um we will be they will will take them to primary campus to see some of the students so they can get an idea of who they're giving these items to so that is on June 23rd from 8 to 10 in the morning and then um I wanted to say thank you to the third grade team and the rising fourth graders who will be coming to intermediate campus for inviting me to speak to their at their promotion that was very exciting to see them and then um we also have a today our our vending machine also arrived by jom so super excited so the students have not seen it obviously so hoping that no none of the kids are watching this so they won't know and we can still surprise them and then um another thing was just adding that on our school data for our benchmarks that we are very excited in the graphs that you're able to see on the third page that we were able to um get lots of students moved from the not proficient to minimally proficient and above so looking at the colors we're very glad to see the red because the red increase [Applause] you can show our video now thank you [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Applause] [Music] don't know [Music] what's up [Music] any social media movies [Music] Frontier [Music] I feel my feelings way too strong wish [Music] thank you [Music] again foreign [Music] we can take this fast [Music] can you tell me [Music] foreign [Applause] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] country good evening president when the governing board members superintendent Diaz community members I am here to present for miss sudam her initial intent was to be here but was not able to so um I hope that you had an opportunity to take a look at her Port report that she submitted and there are a couple of things I want to highlight we want to make sure that we thank Joseph Lopez from faded maze Creations they designed the wooden medallions and shell necklaces for our eighth grade students that promoted and the basket necklaces with the bubble B in the center for our high school graduates so this could not have been done without the Jon parent committee for approving the funding and awarding these amazing gifts also a huge shout out to our sponsors Miss Martha Hernandez for 8th grade promotion still on the first page um the 8th grade promotion sponsor Miss Juana Antonio who was the senior class advisor they did a lot of work they put in a lot of work for our promotion and for our high school and both were a great success we want to make sure that we extend our gratitude to Mr Meese and Jeff Juan for planning our annual end of the year field day thank you to all of the community members that joined us that day and provided our students with a full day of Health wellness and fun and last but definitely not least we want to thank Arnold Anton security for 30 plus years that he served at Babel kieber Unified School District we want to wish him well on his retirement we want to thank him for his time commitment hard work and for the knowledge that he shared with us during his tenure and I'm so sad that I will not get to be working with him again um and then if you scroll down there's a couple of things we want to highlight if you look at some of our post-test data the boxes have been made a little bit thicker so if you keep going I think it's like maybe page five right here so you'll notice the growth um we highlighted those areas pretty significant growth and then the video is going to be a small picture of what our seven learnings that we've been talking about so this video is going to give you an idea of what those seven learnings will look like when we're on campus no no [Music] no no [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] members of the war um once again I want to give a big shout out to our eighth graders they have reached 1080 attendance for the school um let's give him a big hand for all of the work that they have done most importantly in December they were in November there were 77 December 79 by the end of the year they they close a year with 90 attendance for the month of May um I also had my middle school there were the the at the highest level at 88 that were only two points away from reaching the 90 so I'm looking forward to your leadership so we can have many more grade levels and 90 attendance take a minute also to to go back to the report when you have time and I want you to take a look at the amount of students that how the high school uh almost abolished the minimally proficient and the kids move through the other levels so you can see how some students they grew two levels some of them three levels some of up to four Mastery levels congratulations uh to the uh Baba Kiri uh middle in high school any questions or comments to the report on the board we look forward to an amazing year for you thank you thank you Mr Fox good evening again president buendia board members superintendent Mr Diaz um just some of the highlights I had completed this report um with the dates of 523 since that there was another couple what six seven days left of the month um eight more courses were completed which rounded us up to 56 for the month and another 50 active 50 or so activities were completed that put us over 2100 for the month and for the first two weeks of June we've had another six courses already completed um so our kids are still working they're still out there and they're still making contact with us um attendance is saw it's staying pretty stagnant in the middle school the high school dipped again a little but that's with the influx of students it takes a little while to get them to where they need to be so that's why I one of the reasons our attendance fluctuates up and down is because we're still training some of the new new folks that come into us at any given time during the school year um but besides that our video is not what we did in the month it's all about our graduates every single one of our graduates received this video it's very personalized it's very special to them they and Miss armenta made the videos together so I hope you enjoy the graduation video [Music] purple [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] cool this what are you doing here you got somewhere to be what the heck thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you just waking up in the morning gotta thank God I don't know but today seems no congratulations to our iohs m2023 graduate we are super proud 2023 was most definitely a good day just to add their little nicknames that boss that smile that that came from our other students watching the video after it was made and they started saying stuff like hey look at her style so that's when they started adding those so they didn't make those up themselves kovias didn't brag about his own smile and Miss finesston didn't didn't brag about herself that was other students and staff responses to what they watched and then it was re-edited questions comments nope no thank you Mr Fox thank you guys very much if nothing else for the principles report so move on to letter G's or barbecue Unified School District governing board member reports does anyone have a report I'm going to tighten them up for next month okay yeah I have typed into DT and they don't have a report um other than just sharing attending graduations I wasn't able to attend most of them but what I did attend and I really appreciate the videos uh because it gives us Insight on what's happening at some of the events that have occurred that the graduations but I do appreciate everybody's efforts and it was really great to see everybody complete and finish anything else you type it up go ahead you're okay thank you Miss Vance um I didn't submit a written report but um I did try to attend all the graduations this this year the promotions and I really um enjoyed all the um everyone that was together all the families all the you know how much um hard work that went into all of the the promotions the ceremonies the graduations it was really neat to see that um and I really want to thank the the teachers and the staff and and you know the people that are with their children all year round they um it's really good to see that and and you know even though um someone had mentioned why why are there so many promotions that used to just be a sixth grade and uh or a eighth grade in a high school or kindergarten and I started thinking about that and I I started thinking about you know how the efforts that we put into um encouraging our children to be better and to when they first start walking and they fall and you always encourage them to get up that's one of the main things and I think one of the main reasons that we do this is because we want to we want them to know that there's there's people that are there to support them and it shows it showed in all of the Gatherings that took place so you know that to me really stood out um we went to the National Congress of American Indians um this past week and we we had um a presentation regarding him and back and where we're at and and showed um the numbers of uh the increase the data that's that we that we see that we're looking at and how him that place are a huge role in that as a school district um as a community and we did we even heard from schools even though we didn't have a pack room we had people there that really wanted to know how to go about fixing things in their area and and we even um met with with a group that lost their school lost their high school because of their grades their grades at the site and that was really sad to hear so the efforts that everyone puts into trying to get our kids motivated and and uh be in school the attendance all of that matters and so that really for me it was sad to hear that um I really I really enjoyed the presentation and and being there and to be supportive and then at the end of the week we we had gone to the um the um asba Leadership Institute and Flagstaff which we I I just got back on this past Sunday and um we met with our counties and and talked about what we really wanted or what we thought was um important in our areas we make connections and I have no Reuben had really enjoyed uh being there and I can't remember the girl with the red glasses I don't know her name but I was hoping you remembered or you knew her name because she was so nice that she came from one of the reservation uh Jamila and she was from she's up north somewhere she's I think she's novel didn't he right Paige I want to say page but anyway um it was really good to see her smiling and stuff um I know it we we had gone to the black Alliance caucus um we also were encouraged to join the black Alliance caucus um as well as the rule schools caucus and also because we are part of the Native American Hispanic caucus but they stressed that you know even though uh if we had just one black student in our school we needed to be at that caucus we need it to be part of the black Alliance we need it to be and because we're a rule we need it to be part of that because there's things that are talked about in those Gatherings that we don't hear we don't hear and if we're not there at the table to listen and to to you know just to take part in that we're not servicing we're not uh all the schools are all the children are not being represented and that we need to as elected officials and and the school we need to make sure that we're there for everyone so that was really um highlighted and I did enter the salsa contest like that's awesome salsa Chop Chop chopped I entered that contest but it was really neat because and that's it this is an idea that maybe some you know something can happen here is that what they did is they had fifth graders you know with regards to measurements and all of that stuff uh come up with the recipe on how to make salsa and how and what to add in the ingredients so each one of us had an ingredient I mean uh we had um my mine was called uh Bonitas salsa and it was it was a list of um what am I trying to say here what was that she the recipe it was the recipe for that for the little girl that submitted that and so we went by that um and Desiree Fowler from page unified she she was my um she helped me because I went up there by myself and nobody joined nobody wanted to join me and and then Desiree was there so she came up and we made the salsas together and we didn't place or anything but it was good salsa and so that was neat because you know this fifth grader came up with this idea of how much ingredients based on measurements and all of that so I thought that was really cool um there was a lot uh Frank kitchen who was the main speaker um he really talked about [Music] um you know just overall I guess for me it was like uh you know just coming together and just and just um continuing to work hard on what we're doing and and keeping in mind that the children are the focus so to me that was really that was really um a good thing um and I think that's all that's all I have thank you I believe that is all for the reports this evening so miss Ella I wasn't listening I guess I didn't understand that question but anyway um on my report um I did attend all the promotions and um graduations and everything was so nice and I didn't go to preschool and uh I just want to congratulate all the students that have been promoted and hopefully it's our high school students will go on to college and and uh also um supposedly a Intermediate School visit but it was canceled but I still I said I was already on the school grounds I just went ahead and see miss biggie Lewis and we went I thought I'd go visit my granddaughter's class you know but they were all in that a culture class they were all singing and dancing and preparing for the next day's Community Day and um it's like to um and then miss Larson formed working so nice deal with the students you know and they were learning a lot from her and I I enjoyed that um watching them and then the the Congress and now Flagstaff and um everything was really nice you know that I thought the subject that um yeah I'm I'm going to mention is um what are the most effective methods of community communication as a how do we measure what works does it make a difference of the communication critical or general does it make a difference this communication is from is the communication the superintendent the board principal or teachers the data is the best tell a story um using data how you gather the data data matters community outreach is non-negotiable use the data to develop evidence based on policies and then the message around issues is issues management or crisis management current situation to an environment dissemination information via mass mass media and then about the leadership how do you how do you define leadership and good good leader clear communication good example recognition inspiration Integrity vision focus on team support clear goals encouragement and then for today's special it's um recognizing um your staff or it's a birthday cards say thank you social invites group Night Out special Awards public recognition social media shout out shout out promotions and new responsibilities offer offer help that's what I would like to pass that on to look so uh okay with that we'll go ahead and move on this evening to letter H our BBQ University School District superintendents reporter Mr Diaz president of India members of the board before I begin in some of my highlights for the month of May I want to take a minute to thank all of the members of our staff that have retired they moved on in into all their new chapters in their lives thank you for giving us their their best years and in the years of service I want to thank all of our teachers this year for their their support in how to make a transition and continue to support that three-year the three-year plan and not only for every single month working hard but also finishing the year strong I want to thank our parents for being our partners and and being being there next was and sending us the most precious position that they have I want to thank my school administrators thank you for your flexibility thank you for your support thank you for your commitment thank you for handling every single step of the way thank you for this transition as well and make ensuring that the students continue to learn and to ensure that your teachers continue to be focused all the way to the last day I want to thank my directors because behind the scenes all of the support that you provide to administrators and teachers I want to thank our governing board for supporting us and challenging us this year and continue to give us a direction that we need for all of our community members I want to thank them each one of them for being present and I want also to thank um our nation for supporting our dual language program and and we can see that they can see the evidence of what's going on I also want to thank uh for our director of operation um in in continue to provide employment opportunities for our 12-month employees and also for integrating summer youth into operations and the work that we do um and also I want to thank our custodians because they are working on a deep cleaning um to ensure that our schools are already um for the first day of school for that directors um the social emotional learning director thank you for focusing on building uh for the lessons that you're provided and focusing on friendship handling difficulty uh handling difficult emotions and anger management to our little ones uh those are skills that they're going to carry on for the rest of their lives and also for the bringing the bullying policy and also how to report bullying I think I think you to our director on social emotional learning and I'm excited also to see our kitchen at the Intermediate School um it's been remodeled and to see the progress that was going on we look forward taking the board once it's completed having said that I also submitted my report in my main report on my main video that I'll be showing shortly um it was a challenge because I had over 600 photos in in videos that I need to condense in seven minutes and it was quite a challenge but it was a testament in how to encapsulate everything that my principles are doing my directors are working on and I want to thank all of you for inviting us to the events and be witnessed and witness um the hard work of our teachers our students um and this video is dedicated to all of you thank you for your support and congratulations on finishing another year and I look forward to starting a new genesis that is around the corner of July having said that Aaron if you don't mind playing the video please enjoy foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] outside being behind the legs go go go go go go go go go go come on wow [Applause] yes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] let's go away [Music] congratulations [Music] Random Dancing [Applause] baby [Music] awake [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you hi once again I want to thank my administrators my principals for all of those opportunities and for all of the invitations and and to show all of the work that you have done Behind These scenes to make those events happen um a friendly reminder that this is now r0 this is now our our new beginning this is how we finish the strong and how now we're gonna take it to the next level I look forward to the next year working and collaborating with everyone to have an amazing year thank you any comments or questions on the company board just a suggestion because I do think I want to be able to help um it's whatever way we can and I'm talking about also reaching out to our Community Partners or anyone kind of help incentivize those that are teachers especially that are making a 90-day Mark or I I get that there's instances where you are ill and maybe you cannot be at work but those that actually make the effort to be here and present not just recognizing them but maybe finding something in our way we can actually give back to those that are meeting that month absolutely possible I mean I know we do a lot for the students but I think again teachers and anyone else staff especially because we do ask a lot so I'm just I'm just throwing it out there and I'm not I'm not saying we need to come back with anything I'm sure we can gift of funds anything but um there are all the districts have funding they can help the nation has funding it can help legislative executive just throwing up we'll be happy to reach out and to be sponsored yeah I was thinking a trip or something but no I just thought about that because I I I I I I I know we ask a lot and I know we also give a lot but also you know maybe there's an opportunity for us to be able to help um I just want to just say that that you know what you brought up is very important and I know that there are communities um like um or whatever I think I've done that wrong who are willing to do that because the um and I think we in in the new position for next year I think isn't that something that was kind of looked at as far as what can be done because I really think that is important and and it will be so cool if it starts happening because that is truly a community supporting education supporting the efforts of the staff um not to not to also Overlook any of the other staff members but especially our drivers you feel like that might be an opportunity because from what it sounds like they're pulling overtime on top over time and that's something to be really highlighted or commended yes they're not just money I mean with anything else we can anything I love for Mr Diaz Sylvia anything first Anna let him have it all right awesome letter I is our coaches and Club sponsors Special Olympics coaches uh Bert cell and Kenneth Wilson just for your information board with that if there's no questions we'll move on to number six are action items letter a discussion impossible approval of notice of public hearing set for July 11 2023 for barbecue Unified School District to have a public hearing and board meeting to adopt this fiscal year 2024 expenditure budget Mr Diaz President we look for your support and the government board members this is one of the annual uh businesses that we have to do to be able to um we recommend to the public Unified School District governing board to approve the request for a public here uh here in um July 11th uh 20 22nd um on the 2024 expenditure budget as presented there are no objections a motion to approve is there second by Miss Sylvia Hendricks aye sorry letter B is the second reading of the Arizona school boards Association policy advisory 744-3747 are there any questions if not motion by Miss Sylvia Hendrix I'll second hi discussion and possible approval letter C is the of an intergovernmental agreement with Pima County Joint technical education District are there any questions to the item yes I have one too but you can go ahead no my question is is this um this is a yearly thing that needs to be done is there any changes to it um there were minor changes uh some of the changes uh the the superintendents from B mechanical got together uh because we wanted Clarity on the percentage uh the 70 30 um we are waiting for us one attachment that specifies the delineate um what that what that covers um but most of the language is still boilerplate language from Pima County I am yeah I'm appreciative of the boilerplate however I do want you as the new superintendent to really thoroughly go to especially with Mr Airman but on behalf and let us know because I know I've been trying to read through much of it but I don't know what you have observed and things that maybe you want to make sure are included in there that we can support you on because I know it's run-of-the-mill every year but you know wherever we can just just quiet myself yeah so I guess that would be my idea are you are they going through getting looked at by Mr Herman has already looked at the agreement and he had no um reflex pointed out to us um what I do want to convey not so much of the mou it's additional information that was brought up uh based on the meetings on the jted opportunities in which they are fundings to start new programs and they're waiting for busd to be able to make those recommendations I have met with Mr washer and he's looking into adding some additional programs as well because addition are additional programs and take advantage of the additional funding for new programs as well Mr West is still overseen that is correct um with your support I would like to get uh to keep Mr West um with my transition I need somebody that knows a program and allows me to continue the program and based on the information that I have learned and how I want to build a programming collaboration with Ms Leiva and bring some additional programs as soon as we'll be interested on it like that's what I was wondering is that how are you building these programs if you don't have that person here I mean I mean oh he is continues to be incredibly active and continue to come and and supporting with all of the people we're supporting with um all of the uh meeting with the teachers uh ordering the supplies and taking advantage of the funding that is available for Jaded what I what I've just done because we haven't done anything so seriously if you need to find someone else I think that's recommendation that I would really support that would be also my recommendation only because um he needs to retire but also that you know because we do have these programs and I think an oversight needs to be done I mean you know um I will be coming back to the governing board with our proposals that we want to bring without the programs that we want to bring there's two additional programs that we want to bring to our school once we have all the all the details we'll be coming back with that information and I think you're going to be excited about the programs that we're bringing and not to do more on this label but it has had to be a specific request from this board who really put deadlines on let's get this going because it just sat so yeah because they were real well and I don't see it as strong now I mean because you know we lost Automotive I'm not sure that's still going on and then you know we've been talking about additional nursing give me the opportunity I think you're going to be surprised and we're going to be um I will bring to you not only the new programs but also the evidence of what we're trying to achieve and what we will be accomplishing when I met with Pima and I and I explained to them that I'm new as a new superintendent I did request some other best models of jted and gave me the list of a couple of districts that um I want to take not only miss Leyva but also Mr West and also Mr um Mr Russell Robert Russell so that we can build a program that I believe our students can benefit from in the room so that and I think it and I think it'll also because we have those programs I think it'll bring in more more students not in funding go ahead what is your timeline to roll this out um I know the the schools are out but uh for the for for the month of August uh we want to go visit those schools that I don't want to give you the names of the program because we want those two programs that we're working on to be approved before we release any additional information so give me the opportunity and as soon as I have concrete details I want to bring them over to you could could it be possible that the joint the Joiner joins you so beautiful I would love to I I I feel like I feel like we've set the expectation already so you should have had an idea that this is something that could have already been ready to go by the square but I get that it's it's also asking a lot in addition to that miss the the consultant that you're using for JT gets paid out of this with this agreement from the school he's getting paid from um hold I need to go back and I don't want to give you the misinformation I believe Mr West is also funded from the jaded um it's not casting us from our own budget we decide that JT Payson because we said so um I don't have that information but I'll be happy to get bring it back to the other I want to know what are the what are the conditions and to what degree and where what are the measurements that we can view well obviously there's none so we can't measure anything I don't want to say none but there's not as much as we're expecting and what we want to see so to me that gives me concerns and who's actually doing that for us okay I have two uh priorities as well um one is dual enrollment and JT is one of them I will be working with the experts to guide me um this is a program that two other programs that I will be building on and continue to report the progress on those two initiatives foreign I mean we do need the agreement because we want us he he mentioned he has new programs that he's going to be bringing forth if I may I would only approve what the the conditions that we're getting and we are included in seeing where this is going how it's going but also that you're not running into any Roblox or issues that maybe we could be a supporter I mean I'm not trying to throw something at Ollie just to say do it what can we do to help support me because if there's something or anything that we can do between in regard that's why I'm asking about the intergovernment agreement is it in there strong enough that we have what we need um so that we're doing what we need to for the students it's all that's all I'm arguing for but you know but also to be able to review something yeah I don't have my thing went out but I didn't really get attached to really go through that it got them all agreement but also is that um consultant in that agreement um no this is the agreement with the actual program jaded and specifying uh what is the JT responsibility in the district's responsibilities but that is assisting you in running the the joint part of the program requires to have somebody that is going to be overseeing the program and and some of the funding that we're receiving in the district we have allocated um a half time um Mr where's to be uh supporting us and continuing the program it's no it's a boilerplate agreement it specifies the position by another person um okay there's a there's a little there's a little um graph that's really hard to see because it's really really tiny what's on that graph at the end of the bottom of the agreement it's hard it's time what does that say can you pull it up Aaron although it's like really fuzzy I think it's just from the scan itself it's really small and I guess that would be my only concern is are we just approving something and just running it through what we normally would or are we looking thoroughly there he goes on it's on the line it's on page 16.

okay yeah so that twenty two thousand dollars was um part of it was spent tuition there's a small piece of that that was within there roughly eighteen thousand dollars of that was fed tuition and then the other portion of the other three thousand dollars was um some trainings that never happened this yeah Mr President if you don't mind I wouldn't mind answering questions Page by patients there is a lot okay okay I didn't want to step on anybody's toes I didn't want to make this number four or um right all right Grand Slam next page please so this is where we break apart our special education um like like type um we don't uh we don't budget special ed by disability type so everything just stays under a group disability amount so you see there that um our total disk our total sped expenditures are going to be 1800s we're looking at 877 by about 877 544 dollars we did budget two thousand dollars for sped or for for gifted education this year um so let me talk to you a little bit about gifted education gifted education we have 18 students who have been identified as a given okay those gifted students generate a .002 weighted am so roughly I think altogether it was 67 cents is how much we're getting funded for gifted education so some of the money that we have within sped is being reallocated to that gifted education because we do have to we do have to do our part for the gifted students as well as we do for those of special needs too you guys know what stadium is in the universe okay and so what with the gifted education we had zero there in the budget but then we didn't want the company conception to be that we don't that we do not have any gifted identified kids because we do and we just don't get money to to work with the students so we don't have many we don't get money from the state to budget for a teacher predicted in that would have to be something that we would decide to purchase out of and know if we were going to have a teacher for a gift today when we talk about the revenue that these students generate it's not enough to it's a way for add to get away from being in so and we haven't had a teacher in how many years since Ryan was here fourth grade fifth grade probably that was yeah so and what happens is if you don't have a system to identify the kids and for a long time we didn't have a weight of needs to identify the students but we did receive what was it uh five thousand dollars or maybe two thousand dollars for the state two or three years ago which helped us purchase the assessment for the gifted students so we miss romanelli has been assessing the students and we've identified them and this year it was Miss romanelli and Mrs Cuevas that were working with the gifted students but as we continue to grow we really have to have a more sustainable way to support the gifted and ed students because Mrs Cuevas obviously as a principal can't commit to teaching the gifted students in middle school and Miss romanelli is hired out of Title One to do the reading specialist K3 so I did ask a funding source something interested in possibly funding that it's a long shot but you know to the drive yeah so this is classroom site fund better known as our 301 money um without getting too deep into the weeds we're looking at about 831 thousand dollars for the upcoming school year what that will do is it'll put almost twenty five hundred dollars with the 20 within that's in the plant 2500 over the course of all the pay periods to go into their teacher salaries that would leave us was about 630 000 left to be spread out with um performance pay so I I'd like to be able to tell you about what that would be for Teacher but it really depends on how many teachers I'll give you a number but there's nothing behind it that should gives it any any accuracy whatsoever do you have a minimum because every teacher because if every teacher you're probably looking right around twelve thousand dollars half of it is paid out in May it's not too sure so that would bumper average teacher paid 55 no it wasn't because of when we report our average teacher but we never heard anything yeah when you're reading teacher yeah yeah reality it's 15 so and then and then how much is it for their um committees or clubs is it it depends clubs and tutorials and Athletics it all varies depending on the club and or the activity or that the team events we don't we don't use 301 money for that okay yeah so I was still I was still on air on teacher salary so I thought [Music] I remember when they come in the foundation meeting it was part of their 301 responsibility so still we've changed a little bit of that structure so that it's not because they used to have to do school supervision and so many reports well they still have to help it's a difference between being a sponsor and just supervising like one sporting event for the entire school year or one track event so that's part of their 301 the sponsors that actually are spending you know several days a week doing it that's they get segments for that so it's too different so the next page so this is how we have our budget how we have our money budgeted for our unrestricted Capital um a couple things I wanted to point out in line nine under Debt Service that is our interest and principal payment on our bus leases um you'll see a nice jump in line four right about the middle of the screen under 6 700.

so um it was a very strong check reading campaign so these are the events and Community outreaches we were able to run this year I won't go through all of them I just want to pinpoint too so International cultural night is one of it's a fan favorite everyone loves it and um it's it's arguably our biggest night um it's hard to tell how many people comes not like we we check however I did print out the task force I printed out 450 and they're only about 30 left over 400 kids um you know filling out their passports and going around to the different countries cultures and regions so that was very exciting and um that is typically in the fall and um the second I want to talk about was steam day so this is new it's a male girl it was run by a resident board scientist Randy Benson if you um if you know her she's incredible and she planned all of the events for PK I'm sorry kindergarten through fifth and just to give you a visual we all know the walkway by the kindergarten it was filled all day long with kindergarten through fifth grade doing steam projects got you know gathering around tables working together building things um and it was so great to watch I mean it was really really wonderful I wish I put up pictures I wish I had pictures I can afford them later the smiles it was something new it was something exciting we did it right before Memorial Day weekend and it like it just was something fun to do when some kids take off the other ones were there and they asked you all the fun things so um so all the kudos to Randy Benson who who planned it all I was only the Amazon Shopper she really um did an amazing job um two things that input up there is we did the cereal box challenge I just want to say that because it was so so cute it was to benefit a place to turn they needed cereal they reached out to us because we partnered with them frequently and they said we are in need of cereal shelter bear so we had kids and families bring in spirit boxes of cereal we're able to line the hallways and do a domino all the way down the hallways of Chickering just send those pictures too because that was really really fun thank you okay um this is all the curriculum enrichment program that we were able to run this year um I won't go through any of that you can just gaze upon that list of amazingness um but one thing I'll say is that Amy Collins uh and Randy Benson took a really uh close look at the programming this year and they met with all of the teachers after last year and they asked them they said what is it you are hoping to assist the kids in seeing outside of the classroom like what is it you want to bring to their eyes that is not part of the curriculum that you're already offering and that was the question they asked and so they started peeling through the things they've been doing year after year and while they you know are amazing and great they found things that maybe they didn't want to repeat so we have a lot of new things up there and we're actually by doing that we're able to shave down our curriculum enrichment uh budget as well so not not an on purpose but just a repercussion of the situation so budget fun stuff um all the numbers you'll see on the left um this is our projected budget for this year we um estimated net operating income a loss of thirty seven thousand dollars seems like a lot that is very typical for a check rating year um we try to offset our losses during check writing year with surpluses during auction year and that's just how we run our budget we also are incredibly conservative in our budgeting so we estimate um higher expenses and we also estimate lower income just so that we're not surprised by anything we don't like surprises so what we ended up um netting was a net loss of eight thousand dollars you can just see won't go through it however um curriculum enrichment came in lower teacher support typically comes in lower but again there's a higher number than usual because of so many taking their funds um events Community administrative all of that is very typical so that's how we ended up we were very well positioned after this year that's it that was this year it was such a great year that was this year so this is next year and the sport is super talented I'm so thrilled I'm so honored to lead them through the year um each one of these ladies knows what they're doing and the role that they're in um they all are energetic excited to be there and it's going to be a really really great year this is what we have planned so far so we've had a little um little powwow about next year we have a few things on the board uh we have our typical on the right events we have their dates it looks very similar to most years the only difference is we're going to bring our parents night out to the fall because we're trying to connect the parents earlier as much as possible uh with some of the feedback we're getting is that while we do do a great job with Community you know getting the um connecting the parents sorry we do a great job with that and they do complement tests with thank you we still feel like sometimes it's too late in the year so we're trying to do it earlier in the fall get the parents together get them meet each other and that is like specifically the younger parents I just want to like just many people so all that looks game for the most part the left side a couple of things we're going to try next year so we're gonna try to up the Chickering swag we've had a lot of requests for fun items um so we're going to pre-purchase some things over the summer have them for sale Dover days um welcome back picnic and then the events we think that'll be fun and you know um also bring people together and stuff on uh we want to I'm just gonna say the last thing we want to do really is try to increase our onboarding for new families that was some feedback we got as well is that again while they do know who to contact it still is taking that leap is difficult when you're a new family member as much as you want to show up to an event and meet people walking into a room where you know one or two people and they might not be there it's not easy so we need to work through that a little bit and try to to bring them along more than we do um and that is also the last point there with additional volunteer opportunities we're adding in happy to help volunteers people who don't want to commit to a year-long anything and our ads that are happy to come in and help us so we've gotten that every time I add slots to that they fill up in five minutes so um plenty of people are happy to help apparently oh and on the very last thing this is oh I'm sorry that's not plastic I'll just say um Spring Auction but I can talk right here um so our proposed budget the numbers are very big um but sustainable so this is our auction here we plan on high expenses and we plan on high income so while we do have a loss a net loss up there again we are very conservative in our budgets and we anticipate that when the actuals come in it will be a surplus that is what has happened every auction year since we've been doing auctions um and so in reality that will probably be a net net income of probably plus 15.

if you count the goalie there's 13 Notre Dame England players [Music] so I guess there's a new rule that I've just uh maybe as the announcer I've got something wrong here but I don't think so normally in girls lacrosse there are not 13 players in the field but there's a reason why there's always somebody now open for uh for the other team and why they can double team the ball and just uh continue to go it's not like they needed an extra play but they have one and the referees have unfortunately not caught on to this fact so you can see it here number nine is going to come off the field and stand right there oh wait are they they are going to sub in so maybe I've got it wrong I'm not actually sure what happened here [Music] thank you [Music] well it's now 21-5 certainly Notre Dame Hingham has really turned it on I think some words of some coaching there at the halftime it was eight five and uh coach Meredith Frank McGinnis put some words of Wiz clearly into the Notre Dame Hingham Polaris and got them inspired for the second half you could see her giving some instruction got her players in line and it's been just a two A Tale of Two tapes really uh the second half has been all Notre Dame Hingham first half was essentially very close to very close to even something East Longmeadow can look back upon and see what they did there what they did differently the draw control has certainly been something that has you know been a been a problem for Islam Meadow and been an asset for him they've won a a large percentage of those and uh we're seeing here an open goal they're going to put some pressure on the ball you know Notre Dame hingham's probably not going to look to score here they're just going to kind of run it around and East Longmeadow is going to try to steal it and take take it away as they should looks like balls on the ground here and it not sure who's doesn't mean it's on the ground and we had two players there still picked up there over there by Notre Dame Hingham a great play by number six ball comes out of the stick again I'm not sure if that was a penalty but it's going to get called foreign [Music] Meadow with an offensive opportunity here three minutes remaining in the game they are down by 16 goals so there's not going to be a comeback but Islam Meadow wants to finish the season strong we'll see if they can get one more goal give their fans who have traveled a long way to be here something to cheer about I'd like to see you actually like to see our senior Captain Bridget Jordan put one in it's this is likely going to be the her last game of the season and that does go in looks like a goal scored there by number two was that Anna Macarena was Anna macarini to put that in two minutes remaining East Longmeadow hustling up to the circle so that they can get one more opportunity I'd like to see them try to set up Bridget Jordan here so that she can get you know try to get on the scoreboard and the last goal of her senior season Bridget Jordan real leader of this team started brought this team as a leader as a captain the senior helped bring this team from where it was in the beginning which was way down the bottom of the barrel many losing Seasons all around oh this would ought to get but they're not going to get this one they're gonna have to try to chase it down but kudos to Bridget Jordan a great career here at East Longmeadow High took this team to a western Mass Championship uh at one season this season she's brought them here as a leader to the state semi-final game along with her other co-captains Ally Thompson and Megan morno but it's really nice to see oh they put that they put that one in the net which I actually think is a great idea would be great to give Eastlawn metal one one more possession although the clock doesn't stop so looks like East London was then say they're hurrying up but we're gonna try to get one more possession in here thank you fans giving it a come on red they'd like to see one more goal give them something to think about on the ride home on the bus I know it's going to be the girls are going to be very very happy with their season I know coach Moses and Coach Mazza are very happy with the season sure they would have I'm sure it's picked up there by morno she's got it get up to gets it up to Thompson time out on the field looks like we have a potential injury I'm not sure what's happening here yeah we're going to take a little break looks like there might be an injury injury on the field both teams are huddled up the referees the referees are huddled up 34 34 seconds remaining uh the the trainer for Walpole went out on the field the trainer free slam Meadow is here out out in the field looks like we're going to take just uh we're gonna take a little break here from from lcat thank you all right we're we're back here 34 seconds remaining Megan morno has the ball she has it it gets it does get it down to Bridget Jordan Bridget Jordan's going to try to make a move here flips it to more now I'm sure that morno's looking gonna look if she can she's gonna look for she's gonna look for Bridget Jordan if she can she's going to take it she does get it to Bridget Jordan 20 seconds remaining I'd really like to see Jordan just get off just fire off a shot she gets it over to more now there's 13 seconds left a good opportunity there by number two or number five I'm not really sure looks like number two Anna macarini had it three two one and the game is over Notre Dame Hingham with us very decisive second half Victory final score 22-5 great season thank you all for listening and watching all season long here on lcat and we will be back during soccer season and uh we will take it from there thanks and have a great year bye how
