is 68 094 average teacher our average salary of all teachers employed in 23 so in the current in the year that we're just completing was 66176 calculated increase is 1918 per FTE full-time equivalent and that is that percentage increase that you all approved back in April that's just a calculation just to remind you we don't know you know we're using the data as of today so we're not anticipating turnover at all over the summer new teachers being hired having turnover savings so these numbers will be updated as soon as we do the revised budget probably in December or January okay risks and opportunities with any budget these are estimates especially given that we are now funded on current year average daily membership current year student counts so and again just a reminder our budget in the current year is still changing today and that will not be finalized until we know the results of the Statewide student data recalculation so we're watching it all the time so therefore right now we're assuming 400 average daily membership loss could be more could be less we don't know whether it'll be positive or negative for us at this point in time as I said we're monitoring enrollment Marcy Jason myself and Joanna Catanzaro are watching the data almost daily the minimum wage may be more than expected so and it may be more than the 500 000 that we put aside that represents a risk uh budget balance carry forward estimate is based upon balance and year-end adjustments we are assuming right now that is about 12 million dollars um it will most likely be more than that because as we go through our end of year processes we are always trying to maximize that budget balance carry forward to provide greater flexibility into the future for Gilbert public schools and then finally turnover savings I mentioned the fact that the average salary now is 68 000 could be less because our average teacher salary could be lower because we have replacing we're replacing our highest paid teachers with lower paid teachers and realize some budgetary savings with that as well I I just for the public I want to say that's because teachers are retiring that's correct and so they're leaving for their retirement and then we hire new teachers that are you know out of school so there's a significance yeah or with fewer years of experience that's correct and also it's important to note that we are anticipating if if we do lose 400 students we are anticipating that needing 20 teachers but due to normal attrition there's no opportunity there's no chance that we will be um that anyone will lose their job or we will lay off anybody so we just want to make sure that never say never because we've had to do that and that was not not in the spirit not in this not in this fiscal year not in this fiscal year Bonnie I had a quick question from Marcy and Jason what are our enrollment numbers today are we about average they fluctuate every day but they are not far off from where we were last year at this time the Highland Park is hosting the kindergarten through eighth grade registration office because our elementaries and Junior Highs are closed for the next three weeks and last week they had 140 new registrations but of course we have people also leaving the district as well too so it fluctuates each day by hundreds of students coming and going but we're not far off from the average no no it's the usual numbers is is there but it takes about a good 10 days even into the school year for all of that to just kind of settle down sometimes kids leave families leave and we don't know about it until after school starts and so all those things equal out pretty much after about a couple weeks in thank you I just wanted to make sure we knew where we were at this year thank you the other thing we have to be careful about too is that we are just looking at enrollment we're not looking at average daily membership just a simple example if we would have a hundred kindergarten students less this year than next year that's not equivalent to 180 M it's equivalent to 50 ADM because they're funded at halftime just to make sure that that's clear and then the final point which is very important is that the legislature has already waived the aggregate expenditure limit for 2024 so we will not be having that hanging over our head next spring which is good news okay so estimated tax rates this is the the Gilbert Public Schools assessed values 2014 through 2024 you can see that we have continued to increase our assess value here in Gilbert Public Schools provides us opportunities with our tax rate allowing us to continue to decrease our tax rate this is a very conservative estimate change over prior year a total of six cents less per 100 of assessed valuation so we do definitely expect that to be better than six cents and we will be setting the tax rate in mid-july and so you will hear about that in the um in the first presentation on the monthly Financial at the end of July okay and then this is just the tax rate history I just wanted to point this out so 2016 was the year in which we did not have the override at all and so that reflects the the fact that there's no red bar in 2016 and so since that time the increases are due to the 15 of the 10 override being approved in the subsequent year and then note in 2020 which was the first year we were able to have the 15 override you can see the increase I'm sorry it's 2021 that you can see the increase due to the 15 override so even with those increases in levees we have been able to continually to draw down the tax rate for Gilbert Public Schools and that's all I have for this public hearing today thank you Miss betz are there any questions board members okay I just want to say thank you I mean I think there's a lot of detail in here and and um we're showing that we're spending our money very transparently and you know with a lot of accountability and very carefully to fund that education for our students president what I just had to request can we have Laura Zalora Lauren can we ever introduce yourself sure or not right now or is that okay yeah okay just curious and welcome hello my name is Lauren torska this is my second day as a budget manager so I'm really new um but I have over 10 years of experience in various financial and accounting positions I come from ASU who I was with for four years um dealing with their accounting functionality so I'm excited to be here and um yeah thanks for having me and I look forward to working with you thank you very much great let's uh go to 2.02 which is request to speak regarding the FY 2024 proposed budget this is required by law and we've we've put that out and I don't have any requests so seeing none don't we need to go to the approval of the agenda we need to adjourn the public hearing and approvement I haven't done that yet right here okay sorry thank you I'm your mistake that's okay okay so now I'm to so so I just finished 2.02 the request to speak regarding the FY 2024 proposed budget this is part of the budget hearing that we're having right now then 2.03 now we will adjourn the public hearing okay that is adjourned now we'll move to our regular board meeting so we'll begin with the approval of the agenda 3.01 board members is their emotion I move that we approve the agenda as presented thank you Mrs Humphries it's been moved is there a second second thank you Mrs page it's been moved in second that we approved tonight's agenda all those in favor please vote by saying aye aye aye any opposed with names thank you that passes five zero that will take us to our superintendent's report 4.01 Dr McCord good evening thank you madam president board members and our one attendee thanks for coming Shannon um Summer's in full swing and I'd like to thank all of our employees who are working this summer your time and dedication truly make our district a phenomenal place to work and learn I think people tend to think that in school districts once the the kids get out that everybody's gone and we have a couple thousand people working this summer in our summer programs all of our custodial staff and maintenance operations Transportation so thank you to all of them uh congratulations to our Highland High School Hawks athletes coaches administrators and staff Highland High received the prestigious Directors Cup award given by the AIA for exhibiting overall excellence in athletics and activities while upholding High academic standards and core values this was something they were awarded right towards the end of the year and I don't think we had a chance to honor them so I wanted to give them a shout out also did you know that we have a summer meals program um it is free for kids and teens 18 years old and younger we provide free healthy nutritious meals to be consumed on site adults May purchase breakfast for 275 and lunch for 4.75 in its cash only these are being held at Neely Traditional Academy Monday through Friday May 31st to July 18th 8 30 a.m to 9 30 a.m and 12 P.M to 1 p.m and the same thing over at Mesquite junior high as well as Harris Elementary again no cost in there is no service on July 4th and just a reminder our first day of school this year will be Tuesday July 25th so soak up every moment of your summer we'll be back before you know it and last but not least I'd like to say one last time to one of our friends here Dr Barbara Newman she will be retiring tonight will be this is her last hurray I don't know if I'm a nice guy or not making her come to the last board meeting but uh on behalf of myself the governing board and all the friends you have here in Gilbert Public Schools you have been a phenomenal asset but more than that you've been a great friend you're intelligent you're kind and I haven't really met anybody who could hold a candle to what you do in your position as well as a human being so thank you enjoy your retirement there's several of us that are jealous of you but we're very happy for you and you just need to know you've been here for us for a long time and know that we'll be here for you long after you're gone so thank you so much congratulations to you Madam president that is my report for this evening thank you Dr mccordan that will take us to our request to speak to the governing board and there's an provided by the board for disposition of any illegitimate complaints including those involving individuals forms required for use of these policies can be obtained from the Gilbert Public Schools website thank you very much we do have one person here to to speak Miss Shannon Binky and please correct me if I spoke that incorrectly and you'll have three minutes if you want to come to the diocese thank you very much I'm Shannon I have a student in Spectrum Elementary on 519 a bullet was found in a fifth grade classroom at Spectrum Elementary this was very frightening for many parents and students however the response to this incident left me even more concerned the police were called and only one officer responded the admin of the school searched the students backpacks in the room and the classroom was searched the school was not placed on lockdown to students and staff and visitors were all walking around the building during this event there was no search of the school or property at all we were notified of the incident at the end of school on Friday and then received no further information from the school or the district we were told that the bullet went to a hunting rifle and therefore a weapon would have been too big to hide I obtained the police report from Gilbert PD that indicated that the bullet was a 223 caliber bullet the same bullet that goes to an AR-15 which is not a hunting rifle I kept waiting for an email or an update but it never came on Sunday I started emailing the principal Al Kane and Jason Martin um Jason emailed me back right away and Al Kane called me on Sunday to discuss the event I was shocked to learn that they had chosen not to search the school grounds after a lengthy discussion I told him I would not be sending my Scott my son back until every inch of the school was searched he then agreed to have a GPS security team search the school and grounds this was 10 pm on Sunday night I also asked if there was a plan in place to have extra security and police at the school on Monday and only at one GPS security officer was scheduled to be there I still cannot believe that there was even a hesitation about searching the school after finding a bullet in the classroom when it comes to the safety of our children and our staff no stone should be left Unturned did you know that the leading cause of death in children under 18 in our country is gun violence as of May 8th we've had 202 mass shootings in this country that's more than the number of days that we've experienced we cannot afford to be reactive when it comes to school safety we need to be proactive we need to follow the best practices for these situations and make sure our policies and procedures reflect them we don't need to reinvent the wheel there are other school districts that have solid best practice policies in place that we could learn from I was told that the GPS policy is of one unit is found they do not search the school how do we know only one unit is in the school without searching it how do we know a weapon wasn't hidden somewhere in the school this needs to change if a weapon of any kind is found at a school it should absolutely be searched Additionally the school should have been placed on lockdown with the children and staff safe in their classrooms with the doors locked until the incident was resolved and we were all safe my goal is not to dwell on the past but to make sure that we learn from it we got lucky this time next time we need to be ready and Implement best practices in our response to school safety issues we need to protect our students and our staff we need to understand the current climate that we live in and put safety first we need to bring positive change to our policies and procedures so that we can hopefully prevent a tragedy from occurring in our schools thank you thank you Miss spinky and as I understand you have a meeting scheduled with further meetings with the district to follow up on this okay thank you I I hope that we'll continue to follow up on this okay thank you president wood yes um could I also ask Dr McCord to follow up on the online comment or yeah thank you so much party taken care of okay thank you yes and we do we appreciate those who have who commented online as well thank you very much that will take us to our reports for tonight 6.01 FY 2023 monthly financial report per month ended May 31st 2023 Dr McCord thank you madam president now Ms Betts will present to you from her chair up here you bet um so now uh the proposed budget is reflecting next year but this is about the second to last presentation on the monthly Financial for the current fiscal year and so um just sharing the changes that have occurred uh during May so these are the groupings of funds that we're sharing that showed some notable changes month over month and we're starting with the district operating funds which does include maintenance and operations classroom site fund as well as unrestricted capital the notable change that occurred in maintenance and operations or mno first of all is that the revised budget number two is now clearly identified remember that you didn't approve the the final revised budget until May so it was always pending until this point in time so all of the the budget controlled funds now have reflected the revised budget number two which is the final revision and I did share with you that the budget continues to change because our student accounts still continue to change but we are not allowed to revise our budget again so therefore any changes the department of Ed does give us credit for those changes and it's reflected in the budget balance carry forward once the annual financial report is submitted in October okay so in addition the available balance in mno has actually decreased by about six hundred thousand dollars so though the spending the the the ability for schools to continue to order and spend dollars that deadline has passed but operations is still doing work and they're still opening up purchase orders to complete unexpected repairs Etc but most notably is that may was the was the month in which we opened the purchase orders reflective of the election in November so of that six hundred thousand dollars or so change over half of it was due to us opening up the election purchase orders now of course that will be unencumbered and rolled over until next year because we don't get charged until after the election but we were obligated to at least begin the process of procuring services requiring us to open up the purchase orders classroom site fund that there was a million dollar decrease in classroom site fund due to our completing all of the salary adjustments reflective of going from 2022 to the 2023 school year so that's the reason for that and then note that unrestricted Capital outlay has actually increased if you recall in April we did not have the bond proceeds yet and it was really important for technology services to be able to begin buying their equipment associated with the network refresh that they needed to start this summer so we asked them to go ahead and open up a purchase order in unrestricted Capital temporarily now that the bond proceeds have been received they were received on May 31st we have now updated all of those purchase orders and that has unencumbered then that dollar amount out of unrestricted capital okay so you can see that these things are changing regularly so in this this is just a language that reflects what I just shared with you and then the Federal grant funds we have been keeping this on your radar for the last few months because the 100th day in person and the education plus a grant were pulled back by the Arizona governor's office however to date we now have received approval for the replacement budget so that we are able to get back all of the resources that we expected to have with these two grants and they still have to supplement expenditures back a year ago you were approved to flexible site substitutes so we are able to use this additional about 3.6 million dollars to pay for the second half of the flexible site substitutes and we also plan on using that new those new dollars to pay the final 750 of the retention stipend that was just paid in early June in early June thank you so the state Grant funds just pointing out these three grants in particular the school safety program and the school safety program Esser we have now received the the clear information as to which staff members are eligible to be paid out of these grants so you can see that we now have expense expenditures and encumbrances in both of these grants and it is expected that those grants will be fully expended by the by June 30 also and then finally the emergency deficiencies correction we have had this 4189 dollar balance for numerous years and there we did have eligible expenditures in bond and we we went ahead and moved those expenditures into this into this fund so that it saved our bond dollars by about forty two hundred dollars okay Miss betz what what made the difference in the result in line 457 the results based fund looks like there's a decrease of about 1.3 million I'm sorry yeah am I looking at that right from last month okay let me see so um yeah the result space funding the available balance um last month was about 1.8 million it went down a little bit but the available balance is still about 1.8 million dollars but there are monies available still in the results-based funding pot that are continuing to be used for for various types of professional development travel okay so just like decrease there thank you okay and then the Enterprise funds again just showing that we still we are still in a very favorable situation with nutrition services in Community Schools so it's important that we show this now too because we have fully charged the indirect charges for both nutrition services and community school so they still have a healthy balance and please know that in in both of these funds they're still receiving revenues because we are in in near full operation during the summer and finally the DES Child Care Grant you approved the procurement of physical access uh physical Access Control Systems at many of our vik sites as well as our rental our facility rental sites facilitating both of those programs and so that money is fully expended at this point in time okay so other funds purposely showed the advanced placement summer Institute here as we just had the program last week and as was true last year was a very successful um excuse me [Music] it was very successful my notes however are incorrect we found out today that we are still expecting to see a considerable amount of Revenue that should result in close to a hundred thousand dollars of profit associated with this program so this will be updated again um at the end of next month okay and then finally the last fun to share is the bond fund this is the 2019 Authority I share that we now have a hundred percent of the proceeds you can see in the yellow column that there's a hundred thousand dollars of total proceeds that we have now received to date um we wanted to to make sure that that you can see that we actually do have the cash now and we have a balance of 16.2 million dollars which should be spent by the end of all the summer projects so we should have all of those money spent probably by the end of December of 2023.

would that have had a line item if the referendum had passed The Debt Service um depending on maybe where you were looking for 2024 is not zero The Debt Service in totality is right around 9.2 million dollars of my recollection is correct on 9.3 and so what that includes is our bonds plus any Capital leases that we have that would be something that would exceed um two years okay sorry but the bonds are from the previous referendum that are phasing themselves out over a couple of years as it were right yeah and we'll have paid off all of our bond debt in 2025. so we've got two more fiscal years of paying off Bond debt and that that those those amounts will go away that doesn't mean that the board is going to have 9.1 million dollars or more to spend uh upon once those bonds are paid off the taxing Authority for that raising that money goes away and it's it's just paying off a bill it's like paying off your mortgage but you can't bill the taxpayers to pay that bill anymore other questions underneath the debt service contingency is is uh contingency is for unforeseen expenditures um and so by the way the 2.7 million dollars that Surplus I fully expect that number to dwindle as we sharpen our pencils and get more accurate on salaries and benefits and so if if that number gets too small the very first place that we would turn to is is that contingency but we need to have some money available for unforeseen expenses and they happen absolutely every year something always comes up that we have to spend money on that we wouldn't have otherwise expected and so that's what contingency is for uh just as an aside my uh calculations indicate that we expect to hire an 8.2 FTE more than we currently have in fiscal 23 for the next school year and we're in the process of ascertaining what the full extent of those costs are and baking them into the budget so whether it's the salaries or benefits 8.2 8.2 8.2 and that number could increase depending on what uh you know sections may look like in the future um but we I have to say the HR department and the business office has been working very diligently and very hard because we're you know we've just adopted this new contract with the Bea and how we pay teachers has changed and getting all those numbers into our systems and estimating those sorts of things has been an enormous amount of work that we've undertaken in the last month and so I have to thank all those folks for their efforts because this level of information there's many hundreds and hundreds of hours of work that go into producing these documents and it wouldn't happen without their help and efforts and attention to detail so I thank them for that but as I said we still have some more work to do and some finer points to to think through and I expect that number to be smaller probably closer to about a little less than two million dollars when I bring it to you next I hope I'm wrong but I think we'll see is there any chance you could remember what the normal percent increase would be for salaries of benefits 4.2 percent and the budget now increase that's a healthy I mean we knew it when we're working on the contract I'm just curious so you're looking for the trend I'm just wondering what the trend was yeah previous years it's probably a little it's probably somewhere around um three percent or three to probably 3.5 off the top of my head but you know I'll look and I'll show you I will tell you though the next time you see this document there'll be more many many more pages behind it we're just not ready to show that yet and when you see that one of the pages in there is a trend for um for all objects and salaries and you would be able to see that for the prior five years yeah okay there's no need to pull it out for me any other questions Tony thank you as usual nicely done I remember when I first took a class when I was first on the board for at ISB for the big conference they do and you do a better job of simplifying it than they do this is you you remember this is Joel Leaps and Bounds yeah so keep up the good work thank you I appreciate that but I have to say it goes the reason why we're able to do this is all the work I'm I'm aware yeah and thank you for recognizing you remember those columns yeah the coding and yeah all right next time yeah since Tony's doing such a fine job under Administration comments we wanted to update you on some facilities projects that you see happening this summer yes we happy to and so let's start with Alice Gustafson where my children happen to go to school yeah and there's so if you drove by Alice Gustafson in the last maybe two and a half three weeks you'd be like holy cow what is going on over there there has been some major work especially out front and the Expeditions are complete uh that will service the new main office in that building and what's interesting about the work at Alice Gustafson and JB Nelson is those are sister schools they were built in 1955 and 1957.

and I didn't even realize that I didn't know what I was doing because I got checks on all of my assignments so it's about that feedback loop and really that communication and engagement between students and teachers um so that they understand what we're asking them to do is important and that's why we ask them to do it so none of it is like optional you need to do everything a superintendent s let me Begin by saying what we're looking for here tonight is a vote to implement a process over the next five years to find a better way of grading students equitably and has you could throw that book out the window you can do whatever you want with that book it's not because of that book that we're looking to make these changes we're looking to make these changes because number one I personally and I've been saying for the last five years we need to get rid of cereals we need to treat kids more Equitable and we need to hold kids accountable more and what we're doing now doesn't do that and we can't grade students for effort and fun we need to know what they know and are able to do and we're not doing that right now in particular classes and in some areas we're more concerned about well they didn't get it on time oh they didn't do this no I want to know what is it that they know in English you give them a zero tells me nothing about what they know and are able to do so a zero doesn't help me at all and if it's sometime teachers want to give a zero because it's easy to get rid well got a zero didn't turn it in on time off all done with that so at the end of the quarter what does the student know and able to do they gotta they got a 40 or they got a 50 but we still don't know what they're able and should know learning is sequential learning is scaffolded so if they didn't learn what they needed to learn that first quarter because we quit on them or gave up on them when do they learn it it's sequential so the second term we go it's even harder so on vocational we are not we are going to continue to grade them for their performance for their safety for everything beyond their or beyond their project in their skills the skills and their ability to do uh whatever competencies we're looking for them to do it's all built on competencies and skills as it is in academics and as it is vocational invocations all built on what are they able to do what do they what do they know this year want to be a good example this year we had students that failed one of the things that I asked all teachers to do was do a plan and how you're going to get them at and a lot of pushback about that wow we got to do more work oh we got to do this oh we got yes you do because we don't know what why that student failed and we have to know why they fail and how we're going to help them to pass this equitably this grading policy helps us to better hold people accountable to help students learn and progress and move forward we did the teachers had their input this is not a job that we should have teachers the administrative team have the experience and the knowledge and the understanding of what a good grading policy should look like they got feedback from the from the faculty after we after we had decided what it should be not before it we didn't we don't need to teach his input and what this policy needs to be or not be they in terms of implementing is going to be a Five-Year Plan they're going to be part of that plan and helping us figure out what's working what isn't working and uh that's what this whole thing is all about we need an equitable plan I'm looking for the committee to vote on allowing us to move this plan forward you've got this report the last school committee meeting this explains what the policy is it's not the first time you see it you all got this two weeks ago to read through it and I said if you had questions you should contact us let us know what the questions are so that when we got to the meeting tonight we needed to have a favorable vote because I believe it's going to move the school forward it's part of the five-year strategic plan and and we need the confidence in the faculty in the staff the administrative team and the work that they did put this together that they've done done a good job and it's also the department of engine across the country you're seeing that Equitable grading policies are being implemented and need that we need change and the schools that have made these changes have very similar uh demographics to Greater Lawrence almost for those five schools all have some demographics to go along we are the kinds of schools that are students are being impacted the most by inequitable unfair grading policies and I've seen it myself I believe that we have unfair unequitable grading policies at greater Lawrence technical school and we need changes if we're going to treat kids fairly and equitably and I believe if we change this grading policy that our kids will do better because we're going to be holding everybody accountable to do a better job at grading kids no longer get zero you have to do the work because I need to know what you know and able to do we administrators are going to hold teachers accountable to that standard as well we want you to find out from your kids what it is they know and are able to do it's not good enough to give them a zero it's not good enough to be failing them how do we help them learn what they need to learn we need to do a better job at that and that's what this policy does Mr Cirillo um thank you John you're always so passionate but you're right we got this weeks ago in my last meeting but we didn't get the presentation until today so it is the administration whoever comes and makes a recommendation on a policy but at the end of the day it's a school committee that makes the policy we vote on the policy we make the policy and that's where it ends what we're saying is and I'm one as you all know and the principal knows that if I could do it before Desi mandates me to do something I'm on forehead because we could plan it in a way that's going to be Equitable for everybody but buzzwords don't impress me and especially when it comes from this because as we know their inflammation implementation on trying to turn around schools doesn't work because if it did Lawrence would Snappy 12 years under receivership with that is we're not saying we're not looking to vote on this but we are looking to have time to really look at this before we even make a vote I get it and I'm in agreement with you at certain things because yes kids need the opportunity to to move forward but we also have to be as a committee understand that we need the process of okay we have to really look at this look what we what we're going to agree with look like we're not going to agree and come into a consensus of well how are we moving forward yeah yeah okay uh your whole life thought for a second uh superintendent Wanda you would dress with Frank said no I I agree 100 with you Frank so if the committee feels that they haven't had enough time to review this then happy to have a special meeting to bring this back whether it be a week or three weeks or four weeks whatever you need as long as we get it done before the next school year so any questions concerns you can have we're happy to research it we're happy to give you answers do anything you want so we're happy to do that if that's what you feel so you just need a special music Fourth of July weekend week we're good hello but for normally Mike um this is a big thing um this is not just we are we are approving a job posting we're now approving um you know this thing a simple thing is something that it's it's a big change it's a change that's going to take you know a change actually for five years on something that we don't have any results um that it has work or how it's working because um with the presentation that we just heard there's schools that are um they are doing this as a trial as a and they they don't even have results yet so and we do want to implement something and approve it today uh you know that's going to change everybody's life it's going to change um the students the parents the teachers and even the administrator I suppose um it's a big change so taking a boat lightly just today even though um you know we got some information before but like um someone already said we didn't get the full presentation we need time we need time to understand it and we need time to to you know how is this going to change I don't understand how a zero and a 50 is going to change uh the way that a student needs to be treated but again we need time and modeling said everything and more that that of what I would like to say so thank you Marley for doing that beautiful speech and make you know bringing all the points um on the table because I agree that we need time we cannot just go lightly on this thank you foreign I just want to First acknowledge and thank the instructional leadership team that put this together and came to present it to you tonight I also acknowledge that you did receive the actual policy and the challenges that it may be that you hadn't seen the presentation before that was not intentional we wanted to give you the policy so you could review it first what I said to the staff today about this because we're trying to be totally transparent we're not trying to trick anyone it is a policy that's well thought out there are there's multiple Equitable grading practices I said it today and I'll say it again it is not our intention as a leadership team to go in on next September and say oh by the way do all this we want to look at it intentionally we want to see what can what change we can make and as Mr sear said we want to constantly look at data so if we kind of take out a few things that we know that we can work with are in 10 and we've already done it is and you approved it last time is to partner with the teachers the teachers are the ones that are implementing this the teachers are working with the students to partner with a group of students a group of teachers this summer to determine the implementation part phase of this so in terms um in terms of this we're looking to come and get approval so we can have a phased in approach we I believe it says even here that there would be quarterly updates right so we would be updating um quarterly and looking at this carefully so certainly understand if you don't have enough information it'd be great to have a workshop and at that time we could eat we probably would have even partnered with this teacher team but this is something that um when I asked the instructional leadership team to look into they came back and they 100 percent believe in it I believe in it the superintendent believes in it and um you know to me this is just it's it's adding to who we are at greater Lawrence technical school we're not trying to water down anything if anything we're looking to ensure that our students that we have a better idea of what our students know and are able to do and we strongly believe in this policy and in these practices that can that that it will help us is it going to be tomorrow no but we're going to work towards that with support with data feedback from teachers and also of course one we can't we didn't want to go and speak to families yet until it's a policy but we would have um information sessions on zoom in person to families we'd also talk to students about it so I just wanted to again acknowledge the work that's gone into it and also um you know speak to you regarding the importance of this thank you yeah one final thought um and I want to if I didn't say in the beginning I want to thank everybody who put their work into this because it is not easy it's not easy to put in demand hours it's not easy putting the time together to put this all together um and it is it's a lot of hard work um in your presentation if I would have had that probably last week or the last time we were here this might have gone through but I still have some questions and I still have to really look at it um and we're moving in a direction to get away from keeping people No Child Left Behind into MCAS is the only format that too grade kids into graduating on High School and I'm a big proponent of change um but and I know the challenges that come with with changing the word change for somebody who's been around for a while can be scary kids parents anybody who hears the word change automatically is is a a Oh My God moment um so for me it's just I want to look at it I got your presentation I've had the book since the last time I've read through the book probably I do a lot more research sometimes than I care to um but and I also look at the other data when I'm looking at four five schools that I've been to those areas another work and I know the demographics are they're similar they're not the same similar to here will be low greater low similar to here I think that's about it um but we have four different Community four different communities we work with um and a lot of challenges that come with everything my thing is the only thing I want is the time to sit really look at this because there are a lot of great points in here I think of me and the superintendent have talked about how many times in the principle about how we could better be effective um but expected me to vote on something today when I'm just looking at it although I agree with some of the points I still have to make sure that I'm making the right vote no no okay I'm not going to take any further questions that uh I don't have to be the smartest person to realize that this is not going to move forward this evening with this committee uh and I do not want it to be down to a no vote so right now I'm going to take a motion to table of matter second any further discussion on table all those in favor all right you want to post give anybody give me the date of the Tuesday after the July 4th we went in that long yeah okay what's the what's the actual date the two yes I don't my calendar won't come up with something I'm available 11 the 11th yeah okay yeah I'm going to set a special meeting for uh the 11th of July to address this uh I would appreciate the members a lot of work has gone into this project uh from a lot of people uh if you have questions concerns please try to get them answered before that I'm sure that the administration will do their very best to try to answer them so that we can so that we can move forward on the 11th I will have uh the superintendent secretary post a meeting for six o'clock on July 11th okay yes just regarding I I have two questions going forward that I would want answered before the next meeting so do they get addressed to the committee to the principal you go first first of all the way the committee works is this man works for us okay they do not okay ask him he will probably direct you to whoever he has to do but you have to go through the superintendent's office got it okay did he maybe have you called a good doctor or the or somebody whatever but uh you have to go through the superintendent's office because he's actually the one that works for us okay anything further thank you very much for coming thank you and if you can make it on the 11th it would be well appreciated okay if it's possible thank you okay uh student handbook a promotion on that please so moved second discussion all those in favor aye anyone opposed School Improvement plan have a motion on that please move to approve as submitted I'm looking for a school Improvement plan oh Marilyn I I just wanted to comment or have in the record that this is just a wonderful document that's easy to follow through it has the timeline everything I just would want to acknowledge the work that went into it anything further all those in favor aye anywhere to pause uh glts Financial procedure manual superintendent so this is uh we have a financial season commission this is a new section being added to the financial procedures manual as part of the recommendations as part of our recommendations from our Auditors this section is being added its brand new uh section that Melissa put together in uh developed uh and with feedback from our Auditors so uh it's just an addition to ensure that we trans the transfer of uh one budget into the following year is uh ensures that we have a balanced budget from uh the existing year going into the new year so that the numbers are correct so this policy will be used this procedure will be used in the future so we need a just a vote from the committee to add this to our procedures budget uh Financial manual procedures manual recommendation second discussion yes I would just ask that with all of our policies that a date or procedures that the date be included that this was added when it goes into the manual yeah okay we also got the who made the motion okay who made the second are you okay with that anything further what was your favorite aye out of state travel honestly traveled for a landscape teacher uh Peter [Music] um students to travel to the national uh Future Farmers of America Convention October 31st to November 4th 2023 in Indianapolis Indiana a total cost of six thousand three hundred and twelve dollars so move second discussion yes it's a technicality but it could be a big one since it includes out of state travel the actual paperwork that it was submitted for us to look at is from the previous year so it shows the dates from 2022 so I think that we should somehow get the new stuff and included I still will vote for it but from a legal standpoint it looks like we voted on something from a year ago without having the right paperwork he put He put this year's dates in of November or October 31st to November 4th so changes just just a concern um I because I've coached for years but a male teacher two female students going not that the teacher is not careful but that can be a problem you know if something were to pop up you know beyond me tight it's a a male and a female student I believe that's going correct Susan so and uh one teacher that would be going could there be a female chaperone I mean somebody just just to be um a good point sure thanks but we would have to we'd have to have someone they don't have a female instructor in that program we'd have to so what are you doing um we can do that well I love what our culture is we could probably maybe get a parent or we could yeah a parent would be appropriate yep we can do that okay that's true so the point of information um FFA this year we did have a staff member that volunteered a female that volunteered to travel to FFA out and so we could we could definitely get someone that wouldn't be in the department but we have someone who's familiar with the um the program and maybe consider it going all right if uh the committee is okay with that I like to table this matter to the 11th till we get uh David Lee out of state travel it's not like it's happening until October it sounds like it's going to go I mean so you can give you can give the the attendees a heads up but I'd like it not to be on to the record until we have we have that straightened out in three weeks ought to be enough time to do it I believe cheers and the rape or the heck with the dates okay this time the chair will accept the motion to table this matter so moved second discussion all those in favor okay we will move on this on the 11th okay superintendent final evaluation need a vote this evening so I think everyone has a copy supervised everybody with a final copy of the evaluation in the final analysis uh of each standard and the final uh evaluation outcome I moved to approve as compiled and submitted or to be submitted do I have a second second any discussion thank you doing something oh bill you have a question oh okay the second any discussion all those in favor I suppose okay uh moving right along uh superintendent's vacation time John so I just uh so I going to have seven days at the end of the month to carry over beyond my 15 which I will use in July uh so I'm just asking to move seven more days into July just to use by the end of July so moved from a second discussion well those is David aye you want to close report some committees uh policies uh section b b e d b agenda format I have a motion on my alphabet there second discussion all those in favor aye you want to pause new business uh monthly basis we don't usually take that off the table right uh gender resignations leave of absence retirements appointments job postings that list is for your office assistant non-representative August 20 23rd new position we're actually taking a person now that's doing it part-time on the for the medical uh for the nurses in the nursing Pro office looking to make that a full-time position where the other half of the day she'll support the co-op offices office as an assistant this would be a non-reposition okay great along technical school after dark program apparently liaison contract up to 15 hours per week Grant funded August 28 2023 new position and greater Lawrence technical school apprenticeship program facilitator forty dollars an hour up to 15 hours per week granted Grant funded on July 1st 2023 new position the motion please have a second second discussion all those in favor opposed okay future she's uh she's a call of nature oh yeah I got my call Mr Hayden constitute here thank you okay um future agenda items there will be need for an executive session tonight uh John I mean I have a motion on that please executive session for physician changes [Music] would you call the roll when you have a minute please yes yes yes we will be coming back to adjourn here thank you [Applause] [Music] teacher believe nursing business to approve uh the uh job description with a 10 percent uh stipend for taking on the extra duties as uh and will be outlined in the contract language move the recommendation for a second second discussion all those in favor aye anyone opposed continue John position changes like to make recommendations that committee accept appendix b as negotiated by the principal and the uh president of local 1707 and outline uh in the document that you have changes there's a position no just the difference in uh salary increases sorry for uh certain positions move the recommendation discussion go ahead Mr mystery oh all of it David hi anyone opposed okay this was uh told that I uh we missed something in executive session wait for next meeting we're gonna wait for the 11th here [Music] um I'd like to get it done because if we're waiting so long you know I didn't see it on the thing here well superintendent would like to uh like to explain it and get it uh get it addressed uh we want to accommodate him should only take a couple of minutes to go back into the executive session it was one of the changes what's your what's your pleasure ladies and gentlemen he thinks that it should be handled before the 11th let's go back I need a motion on it second to learn otherwise well I don't yeah but that's that's a given if it's going to be retroactive oh okay so I have a motion to go back into executive session still moved second discussion Marlo's in favor aye opposed when you have a minute please I'm sorry should have won [Music] yeah probably huh John make your recommendation please to post it make your recommendation let's make a recommendation that we post the position of director of Grant and Workforce Development the job description as outlined I moved the recommendation who has a second discussion all those in favor aye Paul's chair accept the motion to adjourn people

25 out of 125 practically you say no and that's out of them oh on the entire School 400 yeah okay yeah okay it's a good number um not to go too in detail with it but there are some students who are you have to be eligible for summer school as well so if you if you fail too much if you're below a certain number we actually would require you to retake the full course versus the credit recovery option so there's a mix there you would have to repeat your grade if you didn't meet the requirements are we do we have that still yeah you have to have a certain number of credits to become technically grade nine technically grade 10 right so what we have more often is students who will fail a course or two okay so they still have enough credits to be deemed grade 10 even though they're taking English 9 again or if they've failed three or four courses and they haven't hit X number then even though they're still moving on with their class and we would consider them a 10th grader via you know PowerSchool they would still show up as grade nine okay so and on the flip side of that how many kids do we have that are just like overachieving just you know blowing it away do we have that number do we know if we have that number a lot you know we used to we used to have the gifted and talented right we don't have that anymore so it's not nice oh no but but we have I mean that could speak to the numbers of students we have enrolled in AP classes yeah those are those are growing numbers yeah yeah look at yeah both sides yeah and we'll have that data in the the fall as well to be able to give an update on those AP students thank you so um in addition to those pieces you know it's is we are moving forward with looking at some of our Equity related pieces we did I was excited to bring on the concept of no place for hate um and we had a small But Mighty little student Equity team um who worked with other student leaders from other clubs and activities to kind of create this blanket of what is no place for hate what does that mean so we spent some time looking at um their their statements to stand up not be a bystander speak out what does it mean to better understand people with different backgrounds so that work is still continuing we use our chat our high school advisory time um almost every week now we've actually had more it's not a daily it's a weekly um program and I've never had faculty advisors and student leaders fighting for chat time fighting for their activity so that's been actually a great problem to have this year but a lot of those chats have been related to just doing different kinds of activities team building activities um providing curriculum SEL kinds of curriculum working towards the no place for any pledge statement so a long way to go but it's a nice thing and then really just kind of want to point out you know speaking of anything that's quantifiable but for such a small school we really have over 40 opportunities for extracurricular activities for students at the high school that is not including Athletics at all that is completely unrelated to Athletics that's just our clubs our class officer programs our student council is so active with those numbers growing it's just a tremendous amount of offerings and most students can't give a specific number on that one but most students are involved in something and we have a pretty good pulse on the ones who aren't and are continuing to always kind of work with those students work with those families find something to engage them in some way and chat becomes a big part of that as well but um that's really where I felt like this year has just it's been almost rebuilding and just rebuilding some of that culture and getting kids involved and feeling active and feeling the buzz and fighting over time and fighting over space all good problems to have in terms of when they're meeting um long way to go you know the year hasn't been without its challenges I think as students are back into interacting with each other so much they have to remember how to do that nicely and kindly sometimes and so we'll keep working through those challenges but really feeling good about where we landed this year and looking at some things for next year you get the same sense that next year will be equal to or if not better based on yeah yes I really do I truly believe that I think we're in a really good spot and this is just like to show you some good pictures is there proms we got back to traveling this year which we actually didn't even say out loud going to Orlando with the music department was honestly the highlight of my year I mean I was just such a good time um these are award ceremonies you know just it's really just felt music how often do we do like we we do other trips like that I mean um well they were put on pause for you know a few years obviously so now I know the the music trip will go every three years every third year okay to assure that every student in school has a rotation through it yeah and then the foreign trip the international trips again we had prior to covet it was an every year thing it was like in every other um like when I say every other it was South America versus Europe right um so there's some proposal some thoughts for next year already but I think the original thought was took to wait one year um but we might be coming to you you know in early September with an idea so um again I appreciate uh Dr Kidwell sentiments and again I I do think you know it is an end it's not an indoor I think it's yes we have high expectations we want to hold students to standards but yeah we're just trying to understand our students better and uh Mr Bishop says it's a lot you know well-known well I do think that's our biggest sort of I guess takeaway if we were to summarize this like you just feel like we have a better handle on our students and therefore we're doing a better job to assure that that they're getting what they need you know our last couple minutes um I just want to highlight the board on on any ask visitation we should watch again it feels like forever ago it was a huge highlight at the time it's just everything else was going on um we built up you know just as a reminder to the board um and he asked visitations to decennio visit so every 10 years right but there's iterations um you know um within the 10 years you have you have a two-year report a five-year report and um so this was the decennial visitation so this was a lack of right away I'm saying it it was the visit to kind of bring some things together we had like a pre-visit two years ago where we helped develop with us an action plan and then they came to review that action plan and see our progress and the beauty of the process now is we work together with them about where we feel like our needs are and then over the next couple years you're checking in our on our action plans they're not sort of saying you need to do this you need to do this you need to do this it's saying here these are some things that we think you you know we've all agreed that can improve so as an example curriculum writing is One Vision of a graduate is another you've seen these before um so they came from the fifth to the seventh um you know we had a wonderful visit you know we sat um the the chair of the visitation committee met with our staff at the end of the two days and you know I think he brought almost half to tears he was just so complimentary of their effort um in in really you know the pride that the students showed in the school and sort of it was all I got you can't I feel like a better way of saying it you you can't cheat in the ass you can't fool it there's just it's too comprehensive like they might not get everything right but like they get if it's going well if it's not going well and so for them to kind of stand up and say there were so many things going well in this school you know congratulations you should feel good about it um and then they listed them all out and I it was too much to put on slides so you know we include it in the packet there's over 50 accommodations you know from the different learning stand you know the different standards whether it's learning environment climate um and you know so so there's just a lot to kind of get your head around and then there's some of the recommendations you know none of those are surprises to us these are things we've said we're working on and we will continue to work on and those end up being you mentioned CIP you mentioned some goals we will these will fall under you know the achievement goals and their climate goals you know that that will be coming forward you know from this board from the superintendent so I'm excited about that um and so that helps us sort of guide our thinking which is the whole idea so they came um and again it was it was a two days or a lot of people had to come together students staff yourselves in some cases came to meet as well I want to show you the video maybe just to conclude tonight this is what was shown to them um and before cure hits the button on Play I Like to mention this um as we put this together um we randomly talk to students like no one was prepared we didn't say hey I want to let you know we're doing dance visitation so we just went up to students on the hallway and said hey answer this question what do you think about this and this is this is like one take it took about about an hour and a half to put this thing together um um total it just we just talked to students and this is what they came up with so this was I think a nice way um to end our year but also to kind of show you what what the knee uh the me ask visitation committee saw as part of of their work with us [Music] thank you questions foreign thank you foreign [Laughter] [Music] ERS known as star and I think you can really support our students better you know student our sip process I think you know we supported this math interventionist through the through the budget we'll be interviewing the next few weeks to build a person on board we're hoping that that will certainly support our students um we're offering a new class that we discussed with um through um you know some of uh the policy committee or the curriculum committee here to support math Learners so we're excited about that course are we really looking you know how that goes um we have 30 students in two sections to to again support sort of this math process moving forward so that's a real priority for next year we want to continue our growth and vision of a graduate we made some inroads this year um you know that really it could be it's really we're getting to a better spot but is that really a high school thing you know it really is K-12 you know and um you know having some cross cross conversations or the other principles to bring that more on board um again we're going to look at our data through igss and our Panorama surveys to kind of figure out some things that we could do a little bit better yeah to use our advisor program with Dr Kidwell talk a little bit about they will spend some time trying to bring some people forward next year I think we do need a few more presentations that we haven't had for the last couple years to bring some outside people in to talk about some of the social emotional needs or talk a little bit about [Music] um um just kindness and um maybe just just the ideas of you know um you know maybe accenting our camp group a little bit but we just haven't had outside speakers come in the last few years because of it and there's room for that I think again for people to do outside perspectives um and so that that's an exciting thing that we'll be talking about this summer day to get going for next year so I think it's a good year and um we're looking forward to the summer to kind of rethink a few things but we feel balanced again and ready to move forward in in retrospect um having completed the budget and it's a good you know we're very fortunate with the budget we got sure um looking back is there anything that we left out or you needed that um would help us continue to make that difference you're talking about yeah it's a challenging question I you know you know I think that the couple things that that we know are coming forward are the professional days and the the literacy of the math intervention issue I should say you know those are are two big wins for the high school so we feel really good about that I hadn't thought about things that we didn't get good good well that's that's good news yeah yeah questions okay just got one comment in the question um you said something about you can't fake Report with me asking or in your fake a report about what a great job you're doing with the school it just comes through with with so much that you shared with us tonight and so much you'll be here in the community as well so I had to thank you for that and uh for a great report tonight as well um the math interventus 7 to 12.

you're looking at over 2 million if you do both and you're like right and if even if you took some of the capital and crying that's like 200 000 that's still 750 000 you're still not even hitting yeah yeah that's a that's a purchase option and we actually Lisa has some uh current as of weeks ago in a couple of weeks we um we mapped to reload people classrooms that were coming off the line okay no toilet rooms and um total cost for a two-year lease was two hundred thousand dollars four four two classrooms no no Corridor no no toilets and it's a two-year lease essential installed before this meeting turning that into four with toilets for three years and we were thinking so that's what I'm saying this is the worst case scenario if you understood this many and if we bought them and that's the thing that makes this difficult for everyone right is that this is temporary right it's at this point it'll be two years but it will be two years because the new schools won't be open for August of 2026.

I also wanted to share that because we have totally um sold all of the 100 million dollars in authority uh we went back and took a look at what we had estimated to the taxpayer back in November of 2019 what the total debt service requirement would be associated with this 100 million dollar authority to include the interest payments so in doing that it was expected that there would be interest payments of about 30 million dollars associated with that hundred million dollars over time because we now have everything sold and we have all of the debt amortization established we took a look at what the total debt the total interest payments are going to be and as it turned out we have cut that in half it will be less than 15 million dollars in in the interest charges if you remember the pamphlet anticipated that we would sell our first bond this year and this year was the year in which the interest rates went up significantly we had an opportunity to sell early the interest rates were very favorable we had the need and so we sold the bonds and it benefited our taxpayer to the tune of um over 15 million dollars just wanted to share that with you foreign and then finally The Debt Service summary so at this time of year I am bothering Ashley Miranda and Jackie matin and to say do we have enough cash do we have enough cash do you have enough cash to make our July 1st payment and so we're always looking to verify that we have enough cash and as it turns out we are still actually receiving revenues in The Debt Service fund and we have an obligation to pay about 22.3 million dollars in our final payment July 1st so you can see that we have adequate cash balance now to be able to make that payment the difference between that 23.9 million dollars and the 22.3 million dollars roughly will be fund balance that will offset the um the tax rate for the secondary tax rate for the 2024 school year so I wanted to make sure that you all were aware of how all those things contributed and impacted one another and that's all I have um go ahead in this page just a reminder the results funded but the results-based funding is going away this year or next year um it this is the final year this is the final year okay thank you the state is still withholding our last check or our last payment correct they are they are and that's why you have to make sure that we have the cash that's correct is there any any good news that that's going to stop uh nothing has been committed or decided on that and it's it's about 38 million dollars that's held back until July 1st for Gilbert public schools and that was done during the the economic turn down in what 2010 was that when it was it was it was right around there yes huh sorry but that's not fair yeah it's my two cents which is not close to 38 million but anything further I just wanted to say in regards to the interest paid on the bond um that it's always easier to spend other people's money true and the fact that you have you and your team have been so diligent in making sure that you're not treating it like other people's money you're treating it like your own and wanting to help save and preserve every bit that we can and that doesn't go unnoticed by the by the taxpayers so thank you very much for being a good Steward over over uh the money that we receive thank you thank you Ms Betsy appreciate that report and board members for your comments that will take us to consent agenda items and 7.01 approval of consent agenda items board members is there a motion I have a quick change just of this okay Mr McIntosh do you want to highlight just a couple of the changes that we had some typographical errors that I just wanted to make note but that would have some substance changes yes yes thank you uh good evening governing board president board members Dr McCord there are two Corrections that need to be made on the consent to Agenda One as it relates to the stipends and supplemental pay and one correction under the temporary hourly Sports staff so under 7.05 stipends in supplemental pay in the miscellaneous section there the mentor stipend for supporting teachers with one or two years experience should be four hundred dollars and not eight hundred dollars and then the stipend Mentor stipend for supporting brand new teachers was zero years or those that are in the teacher in Residence should be eight hundred dollars and not four hundred dollars they were flipped and then under 7.03 in the temporary hourly support on page four there's a coach listed for Mesquite High Victoria alchawa and she should have an asterisk which would mean she's paid according to the coaching stipend and not the hourly rate of 14.18 that hourly rate should drop down one line for the student worker at Community Education and those are the only corrections as of this time thank you for those so with those noted board members is their an approval is there a motion to approve the consent agenda items I'm that we approve the consent agenda items with the corrections that Mr McIntosh just made thank you Mr Jetty it's been moved as our second thank you Mr Thompson it's been moved and seconded that we approved the consent agenda items including the corrections that Mr McIntosh just explained all those in favor please vote by saying aye aye any opposed with nay thank you that is five zero we will now move to our action items and we will begin with 8.01 FY 2024 proposed budget for adoption Dr McCord thank you madam president governing board members has presented to you a couple weeks ago and again just about 10 minutes ago Mrs betz is going to present it one more time we asked for your approval and we thank her and her team for all the hard work they've done putting this together Mrs wood yes um we didn't approve the minutes under the consent agenda item 7.02 oh did we not yeah however I thought we wasn't that part of the poll because okay yeah so I can't I can't read and I apologize just fine no that's fine I appreciate it I appreciate it you're such a good clerk yeah I'm just keeping you in line that's good and seeing if you were on top of it I would know what my correction was nope this is good okay so we're so let's go back we're finished with consent we did approve all of that and now we're on 8.01 Dr McCord just explained FY 2024 proposed budget for adoption which was what the hearing was for tonight we've heard it now again at the beginning of the meeting and I would ask for a motion and then we could have any further discussion board members so board members is there a motion to approve the FY 2024 proposed budget for adoption so moved thank you Miss Humphries it's been moved is there a second second thank you Mr Jetty it's been moved and seconded board members is there any further discussion well I I do appreciate the legislature actually finishing the budget before we adopt this I think this is the first time ever that I've been able to vote on a budget that's complete instead of just one that we think will be that way so um and I appreciate that we're in a good uh fiscal situation that we can provide this education for our kids and and do good things so thank you for your hard work thank you Miss Humphries anything further seeing nothing I will call for the vote all those in favor of approving FY 2024 proposed budget and adopting that please vote by saying aye aye aye any opposed with me thank you that will pass five zero and then we will move to 8.02 Arizona risk retention trust policy Services agreement for implementation to be effective July 1st 2024 Dr McCord thank you madam president governing board members we ask for your approval of this item as we had talked about in policy over the last few months currently we are using policy Bridge with Arizona Schools Board Association and moving over to the Arizona risk retention trust policy model beginning July 1st 2024.

and they're very similar in terms of design there's Nuance to them of course but they're fundamentally the same design they did not have secure vesicle entrances and so um it's not a trivial task just adding a vestibule entrance to a school it's very important these days for members of the office staff to have situational awareness to see what's going on outside the school but you also can't have the school nurse somewhere buried in the bowels of the building the office and the nurse's office and the principal's office that's that's a team that cannot be separated by um by physical space and so we're making some Renovations both in terms of how students are dropped off at Alice Gustafson and then how the the offices are considered figured in both schools ironically or moving the offices back to where they were when the school was built so they're going to be on the South Side they're going to be at Gustafson will be on the south west corner and at JB Nelson it will be in the northwest corner what's exactly where the offices were when the schools were built School offices back then were not very big at all not anywhere near what they need to be now and so we're making things work but it involves removing walls and Electrical Plumbing at different HVAC you know conference rooms and all the like and including a respite room for staff so that they can take a moment for themselves or whether it's a nursing mother or somebody just needs a couple minute break there's a respite room in each of these offices for their for their use so there's some pictures there and let's look at JB Nelson as well so they're mostly who's proceeding along as you can tell they look very similar in appearance but hvac's done they're in the process of you know roughing in electrical roughing and Plumbing footings and Foundations outside the school because there's going to be an awning that welcomes folks there'll be a new sign out front and then at JB Nelson there was a kindergarten classroom that had a bathroom in it that looked like you walked into a Time Warp a replete with asbestos and so we baited the Asbestos and are renovating that bathroom so it is uh Mark into modern sensibilities it was I mean truly a Time Warp and so we had an opportunity to add that particular project into the mix and are doing so and then lastly at Rotolo Middle School um the cafeteria there especially the servery as we call it where students get their meals where they served their meals was original to the building and has not been updated since it was built in 1992 and so we are renovating that as well the actual all the equipment in the servery and in the kitchen is original to the building and so after 30 years it was quite tired and needed some attention and so we're taking care of that as well and so although those are the major construction con projects Capital Improvement projects that we have underway in the district and be happy to answer any more questions we have about them can you go a little over the funding of these and how you know there's a certain amount we have and then other abilities you had because it's a significant amount of dollars and more than what your typical Capital annual budget would be so our typical annual capital budget we're increasing by 15 each year in recent years 10 prior is 15 years this year and future years and that is off the top of my head about um 3.2 million dollars right now these projects however are far more costly than that Alice Gustafson and JB Nelson I heard something like 4.7 million dollars in total so that exceeds the amount of money that we would have available and again so that's why we move money you'll see the transfers from our o m fund to the capital projects fund is we're moving money kind of into our into a piggy bank and we might it might take a couple of years for us to save up enough money to take on some of these projects um but this pales in comparison of the real work that has to be done I mean we you know there's hundreds of millions of dollars of work but there's at least I would say 50 million dollars of work that needs to be done urgently district-wide and we have to figure out a way that we can we can make that happen but these are the priorities and so with the failure of the recent referendum while this is underway we still have to put secure vestibules on both h.c storm school and Louise White school and that's going to be far far more costly than the work that we're talking about here for two reasons one there's no way that we can do what we're doing in those buildings as we are here because there just isn't the space to make it happen within the confines of the current walls we'll have to put an addition on which is inherently far more expensive and in those two cases we'll have to deal with parking lots and moving them and also we'll have to deal with full day kindergarten and all that will fit together in those two buildings as well and as you might know the state of Illinois just did pass a law that mandates full day kindergarten by 2027.

it is seven through twelve okay uh and they keep talking about attendance and you can't and emphasize attendance enough that the kids aren't here they aren't here and you know you can't impact them at all and we heard from I think each school that there was talk about limiting chronic attendance taking steps to limit that have you thought about ideas to work with the middle school and you talk about credit a couple of courses in middle school that are for credit and there should be attendance requirements there or other ways to sort of it shouldn't be a shock to a ninth grader that they got to come to school so I don't know if you I'm not sure yes is the answer yes we we spent I I you know it might be an Ask here but I think as you roll into next year I think we do need a Common Thread message you know to the superintendent through the board that no it can be set in a nice way but tenants really really matters right you know so I think not that we haven't done it before I just feel like you know with you know with our years of struggle with covet the expectations just change and the family unit change and just it you know there's just a lot more layers there it's not just as simple as they just come to school the right thing so I think as we dive into it more I think um yes more communication more understanding of those courses more work done at elementary schools not to say the work hasn't been done but I think after coming to ninth grade the hope would be that a lot of a lot of that has shifted you know um but but it's something we all we all need to invest in it just is as a community I think it's just we can help while you're here you know it's it's hard it's hard not to happen I mean they'll always be challenging space to start the more you can limit that and I think too just the the the community piece I usually say there's there's only so much we can do in the building and then just thinking about different ways that families could have support as well because sometimes it's it's it's not that families or parents aren't trying to get their their child into school they are so it's it's what do we have available to help to support them on that side too I kind of think in terms of how do we better educate the community on the importance of attendance and how do we motivate those students to to get get to school yeah I used to miss to my daughter who didn't want to be here I didn't have to do it often as I would literally missed her like a plant and uh she laughs about it now but um yeah yeah so she had to get up she did and I'd just like to say as a former High School teacher I used to work with a woman who would call the kids children all the time in high school because that is something they still are they still are they look big but they're still children so sometimes you have to peel to that you know okay all right well thank you very much thank you for spending your uh your evening with us and I hope you have an enjoyable and relaxing summer as much as you can get your vacation time in recharge those batteries and we'll see again this board we'll see you again in September I'm sure okay if I could if I could just add sure I mentioned earlier that I had the privilege of working with the best administrators in the state and sitting in front of you are two of the most outstanding High School administrators in the State uh Mr depippo is completing his 10th year uh Dr Kidwell how many years have you been in the role of assistant principal in this role testing you four years four years now but an outstanding teacher here prior to that so you are both very humble people Mr de Pippa you said it was a good year I'm going to say it was a great year um the knee ask work is all consuming and starting five or six years ago when the school received their five-year report um Drew and Ruth put together Committees of Staff members a committee focusing on each standard so what you need to know is that every staff member had a voice over the last five years as to how to improve the school in each of those standards and so the way that you both structured it you worked collaboratively with the staff they each had a voice I've been on several me ask visits myself I've co-chaired visits I've never seen a report with so many common commendations and so few recommendations so you had a great year you've done a great job with me ask you're providing more opportunities for our high school students I couldn't be more proud to see Drew your leadership over the last 10 years how the high school has improved over 10 years so personally I just want to thank you both for your leadership and I want the board to know how much goes into the neaska accreditation process I know you're aware but the way that these two administrators structured it every staff member had a voice and it really emphasizes the value of collaboration that we have in our district thank you both Andrew happy birthday [Applause] and thank you thank you thank you very much okay okay um we're gonna go to public forum uh public forum we we move this um because fixed patients being here just so you know we've moved this a while ago more towards the middle so that you can hear or the public can hear the reports and then if they have any questions they can also use public forum to do that so we'll go to public forum now we'll check online first and see if anyone has anything they'd like to stay in public forum again reminding them of the three-minute uh limitation that we'd like to live by Lauren so if you're joining us online you can go ahead and use the race hand creature zoom and I will call on you by your Zoom name somebody online tonight to raise okay all right thank you online um public forum dick I don't think uh just just a gift for the record I know we have to state your name and your address yes thank you I besides thanking John and Mr Case for what they doing I want to thank all of you guys because I don't think Community everyone lasts and how much time you spend in all the meetings and what you do and the paperwork that you read oh my god um and I guess the community members who do care what you guys doing can sometimes disagree with your policy so with your decisions that they care so I just want to thank you for the time you spent and again Community needs to be aware of the enrollment you put and hours you put into what you're doing towards the district and jumping ahead a little bit I just want to say hopefully um whoever is on board in a year or two new members do whatever possible to get me strong back as a Spanish teacher I'm back into Cantonese because she's a big big part of this community and I just hope that Camden kids will be able to have here the teacher right a year or two thank you very much thank you for those comments thank you thank you first off Kevin good afternoon to talk to the other day congratulations there is life after retirement shows them into today read the newspaper to sign for lunch my name's uh Richard Barlow 321 Cherry Brook Road class of 63.

so on at least it had changed the Dynamic regarding lead time no I think we've got lucky we got lucky in two ways we were able to so we're putting six classrooms in this space and four of them came from Pleasant Valley Elementary School in South Windsor but from one portable provider I was going to say that though you know you mentioned 15 months out I don't know that that's much of a buffer you know when you're because not only let's say you don't get lucky and find these then they have to Fab them for you yeah and that takes time yeah so probably 10 months or if you're being you know very particular about it part of the reason we were able to get this too is because [Music] any carpeting included yeah they come with a mix of yeah just go back happened to the beginning because you're saying that out of 550 000 you're asking to increase the first year chemistry for 50.

the reason for this move is that we we think asba's policies that they've done a phenomenal job but the trust is also the group that we uh that backs us up on our policies and is they are attorney groups that support us and they've started this and we believe it would be a good fit for Gilbert public schools and so also you'll see an agreement I'm asking for your approval with the understanding that there may be some changes to the agreement uh miss Page has brought some things to my attention that I will connect with the attorney tomorrow but this will get be able to get the ball rolling and if there's any changes to that agreement I'll bring it back on July 25th for that approval of those changes thank you board members is there a motion so moved thank you Mr Thompson it's been moved is there a second second thank you Mrs page is there any discussion I just wanted to clarify um so if there's language changes in language in the service agreement you'll bring him back July 25th for approval correct but if you talk to Legal and they're okay with the language that tonight is the final approval correct okay so if based on what we talked about briefly if they don't agree but I still have an issue with it we can bring it back for discussion okay yeah I have no problem okay thank you for doing that thank you um I have some thoughts I would like to share okay um the governing board is elected Community Representatives uses policy to delegate to the superintendent the authority to manage the day-to-day operations of the district and to prescribe how that should be done student parental and employee rights as well as federal and state statutes court cases and best practices all must be considered in policy policy is an important responsibility of the governing board I'm concerned about receiving policy Services through the trust rather than the Arizona school boards Association for three reasons number one I'm concerned that there is an inherent conflict of interest for the trust the insurance provider and prepaid legal services provider now becoming a policy provider number two I am concerned that having two entities providing policy to the 230 school districts in Arizona will eventually increase costs for all of us and number three I believe in local control the non-profit Arizona School boards Association is governed by a president president-elect Treasurer and secretary as well as the board of directors elected by Arizona School Board member districts at State and County meetings these are all serving school board members these people are accounted to accountable to us as school board members in a member district the asba's mission is cultivate excellence and locally governed school districts for these reasons I will be voting against the agreement for policy services with the trust and I'd also like to add um if you'll notice the effective date is July 1st 2024 this will give us ample time to crosswalk our policies that we currently have with the blanket policies that already exist for the trust and we're able to add or delete anything we own it just as much as they do when it comes to that and so on a monthly basis when we have our policy meetings we will be able to bring back and give you updates of where we're at and have discussions about things that we feel are pertinent to our policy manual thank you anything further when does this agreement need to be signed I think if we have approval of this tonight we can move forward and they will be flexible with this when it comes to signing an agreement but we'll need to get that done as soon as possible okay if there's no further discussion um I I think that this will be an effective way to meet the legal requirements of policy and still we still have the opportunity just as we do now as a board to weigh in on the local control and make sure that we have the best needs the best interests of our Gilbert Public Schools students teachers staff and families in in our policies but we'll have that legal continued legal representation and I'm in favor so if there's no further discussion though then I will call for the vote all those in favor of approving Arizona risk retention trust policy Services agreement for implementation to be effective July 1st 2024 please vote by saying aye any opposite name nay thank you that passes for one okay that takes us to 8.03 entity profile change with Arizona Department of Education Gilbert Global Academy Dr McCord governing board members currently Gilbert Global Academy is a K-12 Arizona online school in aoi entity beginning with the 2324 school year Gilbert Global Academy will provide instruction for 7th through 12th grade students no longer k-6 for this reason there's a need to modify that with the state and so this is a formality and a procedure we need to go through just to make sure that they have this coded correctly down there thank you Dr McCord board members is there a motion so moved thank you Miss Humphries is our second second thank you Mr jetty is there any discussion seeing none I will call for the vote all those in favor of approving The Entity profile change with Arizona Department of Education for Gilbert Global Academy as explained by Dr McCord please vote by saying aye aye any opposed with me thank you that passed by zero 8.04 to consider discuss amend if desired and if deemed advisable to adopt a resolution approving the governing board's argument in support of the special maintenance and operation budget override election Dr McCord thank you madam president governing board members this is a continuation to a degree of what we had a conversation about at our our work study a couple weeks ago and during that work study we basically utilized a former template for a pro-statement related to this agenda item for the operation maintenance and operations override and we did some wordsmithing during that time I had sent you a copy of what I believed we landed on to a degree but I also asked for any kind of updates Gabby would it be possible to put this up on the screen I think it's page three of the resolution one of the resolutions at any rate um so I have provided you those of you that provided me with some revisions I provided all of you with those revisions from yourself as well as others and I guess the best thing that we can do and I know this is clunky when you're up on a dice and you want to you need to word Smith things so we'll just all be patient with each other and I'll try to capture anything that you guys want to discuss and make changes with and then we will give it one final read for your approval at the end of the discussion is that okay that sounds good thank you I wanted to just mention that this is required by law that we provide this so that's correct thank you something that that's one reason we're taking the time yeah we're just not having fun right well I mean it is but well I guess I'll begin the discussion I I looked over these and appreciated all the inputs I actually I don't know if we could start maybe with Mr Thompson's as maybe the basis and then maybe go from there if people wanted to add or subtract from that would you would you be okay with that everybody that's fine okay okay so if we kind of start with um the and you checked it was 188 total Words which it's we don't have a word do we have a word count I don't know if that's right for my version my version my feet might be more than that that's what I was thinking too so I wonder do we have a word I'll I'll work on it you guys mine when I have to be a certain amount yeah you have 200 words when I counted I believe it was 205.

and so we have some now some pretty urgent fiscal needs in terms of making sure our facilities meet all of those requirements as well too so there's a lot to figure out thank you Tim thank you can we get an update next month as well in the progress sure the only thing that I want to this is from my own personal life is construction projects are fluid and the one challenge everybody's having in the construction industry right now is annoyingly enough lead times so there are components and issues that may rise up like doors you can't get certain wood doors they may be putting on temporary ones or other elements like that as an attempt to make sure that because as we say in the business school starts whether you're ready or not you know so just so that everybody's aware there may be challenges that we've been hearing about from other people whatever so you just need to be kind of prepared and telling you'll do it everything you can to keep us informed I'm sure and we're happy to answer any questions or concerns yeah anyone have any questions on it thanks Tony my pleasure all right last is board comments whatever all right I'll go first and then I can be done if we are though because in my 10 years as superintendent I don't think you've ever seen me get emotional so we have to have like some ground rules if that's going to happen because like I don't know if any of us will know how to handle it like if I just if I just like thanks that means I can't go on so like I do not carry tissues with me I had some but I got nervous and I crumpled them up so that's our game plan if things get emotional we'll just we'll just call it um so just Tony you mentioned you were talking about the puzzle pieces and we all know I think everybody here knows how much I love puzzles and and the reason I think I love them so much is because they're easy there's a picture you know that you're gonna eventually if you work hard enough you're gonna you're gonna put this puzzle together and it's going to do what you want it to do and puzzles are easy this job is not like a puzzle at all but um I love it just as much and I think that this job is probably most people with gas is a pretty hard job all of us in this room have a hard job board member everybody here students so glad that there's one here tonight um we just we all nobody works harder than anybody else we all have our own challenges and so I think the um the puzzle analogy kind of breaks apart no pun intended actually but um really the reason that it's so hard to work in this industry is because with a puzzle there's a picture that we all agree on we know when it's done this is what we want it to look like but in education I think some of the outcomes aren't always we don't always have the same picture in mind people have different ideas of what they want us and you to be focused on and so that's the hard part about what we all do in this room right here is trying to everybody's showing up with their pieces they might be pieces to a puzzle that they found on the ground or they went and rummaged and brought a different puzzle piece and we're trying to do our best and make something of everybody's wishes and everybody has their own shape and size of a puzzle piece that they want us to try to fit in and we have to sometimes make hard decisions and say we can't do that yet um you know people trying to draw our attention but I'm not saying that to say how hard our job is it's literally the best thing industry that we could be in is there's no finer um Place job that there has ever existed then to be in education whatever your role your volunteers those of you at the stable um and those of us that chose to do this for our profession it's nothing more rewarding and I think that if you ever turn on the news or you feel despondent about anything just think about what we do here and it just brings me hope for the future and that's oh deep breath okay I've got it I got it I got it and that's why like it's so easy I could I could actually do another 10 years and it's because I just show up in a classroom and I have hope for the future and it's so fun and so rewarding and so if you're not feeling like I know I'm feeling different because this is my last board meeting and I only have a couple days left but if you're not feeling that like that if you're ever thinking like this is so hard I don't like my job I don't know why I'm volunteering and giving all my time just please go to a concert go to a play even if it's not your own kids play go to the Flag Day raising you get out of it what you put into it so if you need to fill your bucket just go and look at the good stuff and and know that the difficult decisions we'll be waiting for you but we all need to take the time and um this school district is the perfect size because on opening day every year for 10 years even on um covid that year I was able to go to every single school on their first day of school even though the cold year I had to do it twice at the Elementary's because they had the ab um and I was able to fit it in in one day and I just get to what a gift that is to be able to be there on the most exciting day when you bring your kid in and then the next most exciting day which is the last day of school I do the same thing I go in um a day or two and visit every school on the last day and it's been such a gift to just be able to do something that I didn't actually do the work I didn't do the teaching I didn't you know paint the walls I didn't construct these buildings but I just feel a little bit responsible because I'm in the seat and so are all of us here so um it's been oh I think I might just ask anything on the report I think that's it I think that's it yeah I just it because I'll try to say it but it's it's about the no no okay okay I'll try Okay one more time okay all right right well as I'm walking around the school it's just it's a it's a whole journey I feel like this whole thing has been a journey and it's so fun to meet people along the way and all of the characters that I meet I just feel like everybody I'll take you all with me in it you're the best now that for sure now I gotta call it yeah you're done and then to my family thank you and Matt if you're watching why [Laughter] um so thank you I will remember you all finally and nope you're not oh that's for you I'm like I don't need a tissue I'm done I got through it so um I I just want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for everything that you do and for making this the best job that anybody could ever have all right so now for board comments if anybody feels like they could follow that up no need no need so um uh we'll start with board comments um going to start with you Raquel if that's okay oh yeah yeah sure why not and then we're gonna hop to Rob and work our way around uh I just want to say happy new teens for those that celebrated yesterday I'm happy Pride I was fortunate enough to participate in the Aurora Pride Parade last week weekends ago weather wasn't the greatest but you know it was a really good turnout and I enjoyed it um and then congratulations to Lisa being your retirement and best of all your future endeavors thank you rep first of all uh congratulations to Lisa and Matt good luck in your retirement and future plans you guys the best um and then I only want to make one quick comment about the importance of facilities and as we started a lot of the camps and stuff for the summer here in the community it's just so nice to see you got all levels of students the older students helping the younger students in various activities various camps throughout throughout the district here so it just reminds me that you got to have good facilities to do that and what is that brings the community together and um you know we have to have it so I hope we can come to uh an agreement here in the near future but that's it yeah I agree my my daughter's doing a camp and it's she just loves the high school kids that are helping her out and uh the the music program continues to impress me I was looking for someone to help uh just keep her a little fresh with violin and two kids right in my neighborhood were like yeah I'll do it I'll do it so I was just I didn't even have to go far to find someone to volunteer to sit with her for a half hour and um so yeah Summer's been good to help all the hope everyone's enjoying it help all the faculty are enjoying their break I know they don't want to it's not like you're not doing anything you're not busy so we appreciate all your time and then Lisa congratulations to you um I think you're a really big piece of the puzzle um you're like a corner you know those are my favorite yeah nice tie-in Jay [Laughter] you know that corner just holds in so much right so you've impacted thousands of Lies positively so congratulations on that me personally you helped me with deciding on my my journey here to to uh first be on the the team that was reviewing the the schools for the referendum and then to to ultimately come here which has been very fulfilling so thank you very much for everything for the update on the repairs to the schools and for anyone out there that wonders why we have to do this in little piecemeal sections it's because the referendum like Tony said did not pass and now we are going to have to do little pieces over a long extended period of time and this is the Safety and Security of our children in this District that we're worrying about because simply because we did not pass this referendum and I think it's disgraceful shame on those that voted no thank you and Solis I'm just going to say thank you for all you've done for the district and I wish you the very best thank you that and sitting here with my daughter Allie here you know speaking about the children in the district their safety is key and it baffles me on how that was not a priority to everyone but um hopefully we can do what we can with what we have and look forward to learning more hard decisions but keep them safe and keep things going um so I agree it's hard it's hard um and to you Lisa we haven't worked together very long but in the the time that we have you really have shown just your passion and your willingness just to jump in and help whenever I mean anytime I talk to you your guests I have time let me help answer any questions um I wish you the best and I you are the corner piece like RJ said I mean it's the puzzle will keep going but yes it will yeah yeah um and just a couple other acknowledgments um for pride month I've really enjoyed I don't know if I have the committee right but it's the BHS Pride Alliance maybe love their social media and everything all the information and all the things out there they do such a great job um same thing with Juneteenth yesterday I think it's the is it the um black student union yeah their videos were so impressive so informative um and I'm just I'm so proud of these students for really using their voices it's not easy to always put yourself on the center and just speak up especially with such complex times that we're in and everything so I just want to say to them and just acknowledge the the great work that they've done educating our community as our students so yeah but again good luck and happy retirement team thank you uh you see the most long-winded for last I guess you said 45 seconds that's probably for your portion here so I just want to start by saying thank you to everyone's here Ally yes tonight who are at the meeting and everybody who reaches out to the board via email or mail or even just on the street stopping us we always appreciate the feedback and it is essential for the work that we do so thank you for everyone who's participating I also would like to acknowledge the BPS families and everyone in our community who has recently been tragically impacted by some of the recent car accidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists especially along Route 31 right behind us here I know everyone in the community is doing what they can to make our community a safer place but I would just say that we acknowledge the painter that was impacted and I would just ask everyone to slow down be mindful be safe and just look out for one another especially in the summer with kids crossing it's it's pretty dangerous right now so and then I would like to thank the team for putting the report together and Tony all the work you do putting the budget together everybody who puts these weekly monthly updates together it is a lot of work and we appreciate that um and then finally for Lisa I would like to just address you as a citizen as a parent of three BPS students and as a school board member member I am honored to express my gratitude and thanks uh to you you're an extraordinary individual you've served our community for 22 years three as a math teacher at the high school and 19 years as an administrator including time as dean of students assistable assistant principal of learning and principal at the high school and you've served as superintendent since 2013 and 14 that school year and your accomplishments as a teacher and administrator are many and you've been impacted many you know I look at Tony I think as somebody who's been impacted you as not only a student but now as a parent and I guess I both aged you a little bit there but that has to be rewarding to see that transition um you know and this is the part where you might not like this Lisa but you really do exemplify the true essence of servant leadership you are intelligent you are strategic you are courageous you're collaborative and you are strong and you're also compassionate kind curious and tireless and without a doubt you're the most humble person I've ever worked with so I can say without reservation to the community that Lisa has given her absolute best every day in service to the students and people of this District and so I also would like to recognize in that regard her husband Matt for his unwavering supportive Lisa and her work and their children Owen and Emma who are examples of their parents commitment to making a difference in the lives of other and I would like to wrap up here by quoting passport president Kathy Dremel who basically worked with Lisa for her entire career as a superintendent and I quote Dr Hitchens has a genuine passion for Student Success and has been a tireless advocate for the teachers and staff of Batavia Public Schools Lisa has been results driven and her dedication to providing outstanding education to the children within BPS 101 and preparing them for college and careers beyond our walls is unparalleled her positive impact will be felt for generations and so I would just like to bid you farewell on it it's sad to see you leave um and I just want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for your selfless service I hope the next chapter of your life is filled with health and success and joy so thank you and with that we would like to make a presentation on behalf of the board too Lisa you didn't zip up all the boxes yet they're not completely packed oh my gosh oh gosh look at how gorgeous that is oh that is so nice I and it's funny because people keep asking me like literally every hour or every minute what are you feeling what emotion are you feeling you're sappy or sad whatever my emotion is just gratitude and and that's all I feel is gratitude for all of you and everything so I appreciate one more thing to be grateful for this is beautiful thank you and I will wrap up by learning from my predecessor to say I can't say anything better than anyone else other than thank you I'll take a page out of Sue's book there's too much to say right and then I could say in a few minutes so thank you very much you will be missed but we are excited for your future so thank you all right and if there's any unless there's anything else I would entertain a motion to adjourn so moved second kilburg okay locking kilburg all in favor say aye aye thank you and congratulations thank you

in town so I just don't see what the rationale but pushback would be is we're trying to bring in you know a less costly option yeah don't pushback amounts to some of the questions that came here although much increased class size I know if the Press on just get too big let's get an aid into the classroom you know is it's all the things and you know I explained this you know to David and in particular because he he probably had the most um you know all the strongest opinion out of the group and explain that we would do this after we did everything else after we filled up you know all the spaces and repurposed whatever we could inside the building after we increase the class sizes you know that's when we would have to do this that was the purpose of doing the study I mean it's part of our planning right you know I had it so and the new enrollments can't be pushed to other schools but we already Dr Solomon already moved that particman Avenue townhouses which is supposed to be according to the map Highland post any students coming right now to go to chapter so you know again we'll do as much of that as we can with those opportunities but that that that one was easy because it's a new development and those parents definitely students enrollment in school together which makes sense for the future if they're at jam and now they can go to the new York State for sure I think one of these series is that remember so even if we do 300 000 one year 215 you're going to still trigger referendum and your gas and taxpayers for money for trailers request change for this year yes if you're looking at leases it might help you stretch your years and you didn't look at everybody we're gonna we're gonna continue to be creative this year seek where Roman is and then we'll come back when I'm kind of talking about that I'm gonna have to come back for planning you know present enrollment give you a good picture of what else we could do you know because I think pretty much there's not going to be many more space moves we've been made and we'll present you know the options of you know putting you know teachers on the cards and doing all those types of things and then we'll have to you know give our best estimate as to where we where we think we need additional professional spaces I'm not sure if it's here um do we have a calendar uh drop dead dates for decisions because you would mention 10 months in time for new fabrication so if we're talking September right then that would have to be decided by November of this year um so we would also have to probably need to go out to market for used classrooms before that probably at least like I'm just guessing three months before that to get some sort of idea where you could agree on something it's not too early to be reaching out to to your favorite relocatable class yeah yeah you have your three contacts this one that I just quoted as Nadler so let's um Steve I was going to reach out to business officials unless questions today um yeah this is a couple of local companies actually put a local rep and then I'll take whatever information you have I was just waiting to see how much I actually have but that's a great point that there's trying to get ahead of it is certainly something that's worth doing yeah the lease for rental purchase of a second hand one right but I think the different options pricing those movies versus the purchase just on the timing of this I'm thinking that if we were going to do the used at least to use that has to get into that we have to have that in the budget this year and we need to basically give the council probably more information including better numbers so yeah I think we probably do go get proposals for people who have used ones that are coming offline you know in next summer fidelian Connecticut because they they get they get a seal for disabled communication they can read they can they can re-certified for other states but um you know it's it's nice if they're local or or even you know if it's a place that the code is more consistent from state to state but some place some place nearby is good for a lot of reasons code will be more similar but also shipping costs will be lower transport right so I'm thinking that's a takeaway task unfortunately but that that gives that gives us more information to the council as they we go in this direction now or we can talk about new ones but understand that you know as of July your capital budget is done and this is just off the table that's not an option how is the request S I thought I'd I think I was kind of I don't know request is to address the likely to add temporary classrooms at Highlander questions the other thing that you know in the back of my mind which Michael at least have talked about is we may be able to go to the state reimbursement you know I've never seen my instructions right so the key the key timing on this is September we know our moment actual and then I think we do have enough time to move even if we have a place in order for something right bill but we're already working within Cooperative purchasing agreements with these guys so so you can pull the trigger fast when the time comes yeah you don't have to say wait a second but my concern is that my concern is the referendum is if it goes over 500 000 find it extremely unlikely the council is going to be really interested in going out for a special reference which means it's I mean you know you know yeah so it's it's got a they probably needed by August at the latest because I'm thinking they vote on the capital budget in July July but they would still be able to do I'm thinking that they're the real issue with the 500 000 threshold is not the July 11th date but in theory they would be able to probably still do uh vote on sending an item to referendum by like September 1st with one of the issues that I think everybody can understand is actually getting absent to balance printed the referendum's got to be on there so there's got to be time to print it and stuff like that and this is all based in law I think so they might be able to July 11th may not be a hard date but yeah I think we probably need to give them something I'm thinking something even before you get your September numbers yeah but why would we need to go to a restaurant well if we get if we get numbers back that are say 550 000 and then we say this is what we want to do now maybe we take toilets out and drop them to 350 000 and you can play with it but if we at least at least two years well if it was leasing then it was going through the operating budget and then it's monthly costs so you can what I said earlier though if sorry if I missed that time the council approved 300 000.
