soccer will not be ready for this year uh new the new soccer they may be playing out here as they have in the past thank you so much and I just have a quick question not a question but ask if you can clarify for anyone listening in on our meeting we know we don't have classes at this time at lecc but we're redoing the track and the fields so can you explain that a little bit as we continue on putting more and more students in here as this becomes filled with students we want the same opportunities as our other sites have at this level as a 5 8 program as well so we haven't officially approved it that is given to you as information that's come forthcoming the 580 cap there you go yeah thank you for that Mr Smith I had a question from the public about uh just explain what is the senior Cafe is that part of the regular Cafe it is over the years we've designated a space for seniors to have a dedicated area for themselves and also we've turned that into a multi-purpose room so it can be used throughout the day and evening for other Gatherings as well thank you okay if there's no further comments we'll move on to the Neola policy updates board there were a few clarifications are are we good on those clarifications okay Mr harshbarger Dr harsh barter Madam president members aboard Dr Smith the June 12th work session Neola volume 35 number two policy updates were introduced for first reading tonight I bring those same Neola policy updates back for second reading be happy to answer any questions any questions board thank you Miss Dunn for the the work you did on those policies I appreciate that I do have a question can they can they receive credit for the Susan Jordan reading challenge can we I think we've went hands down wouldn't we [Music] uh sorry that has to go the kids oh sorry okay um that was a lot of reading version of the final version I'm still moving Pages I'm still moving pages this is rare okay um Mr miles did you report on the request to transfer funds please thank you madam president Dr Smith members of the board uh twice a year we bring this request to you it's a permission to transfer funds between our education and operations funds this is basically a statutorial a requirement to make sure both funds are whole and in a positive balance at the end of June and at the end of December so that is what I bring to you tonight at this point for information and later this evening for approval can you expound a little bit on what causes us to have to transfer so yeah a couple of things um a few years back uh we the state changed the way our funding was was determined uh from the old general fund and to now the education fund and our operations funds which in the operations funds uh Encompass cpf uh transportation and bus replacement in order to keep our budgets um consistent over the years so that we're comparing Apples to Apples over those time changes we still track our our expenses uh through kind of the old way if you will and then once a year or twice a year at this time we have to make those transfers um to make sure again that those those accounts are where they should be thank you for that okay Miss Sean Bush the student handbook update please yes Madam president Dr Smith and members of the board I bring to you this evening updates for the student handbooks for the 23-24 school year for your review we have added just a little bit of information regarding our attendance policy we included the district-wide goal of 94 which is in alignment with the state GPS and also some information about the notification that will go to to families for for attendance in addition there is some slight clarification under electronic devices toys games and non-academic items with regard to the use of cell phones at the elementary schools with emphasis on the fact that that the school is is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones at the middle school level again some additional information and clarification about the use of cell phones where cell phones will be allowed to be used freely in the cafeteria and then beyond that area it would be at the discretion of the teacher and at the high school at the high school level at this time there are no changes however as always our student handbooks are a fluid document and as you saw just this evening we have a number of policies that are are in the in the queue and so as we need to make updates we will do that as needed are there any questions yes just is a point of clarification and not to rat out my own children but they do have apple watches um and have we considered including other devices Beyond cell phones since they do receive text messages we have we have that that is part of it that uh that they have to be non-detectable so you know how they make noises they make the alerts and things like the phones do so that is included that is I thought I read that but just wanted to call them out specifically thank you trouble Dr Smith I'm in trouble with them all the time but I'm trying to raise good humans that's all there any further questions for Miss bush okay thank you thank you very much for that thank you for your work on that um next up again Mr miles our financial update please thank you once again uh Madam president Dr Smith members of the board uh before you you have our uh end of May financial statements um as we uh share our general fund and our once again our transportation fund and as we have looked and continue to look over time um you know our green checks represent really a positive for us the red checks or something or the Red X is something we're going to just make sure we we're aware of um again on the on the general fund uh as you look at our Revenue we're in good position there some of the dollars have shifted from maybe from one place to the next as far as where they came from but we're in a good position there likewise on the expenditures um you may note as we've talked in in months past our contract Services contracted services and the general fund are a little higher than what we had expected but that's offset by the salaries and benefits being less than what we had originally injected and some of that's because of our prepaid insurance that we that we paid up front this year as a change in in Billing processes and and also um some of our salaries being shifted over to rjb so that's the general fund and overall it's in a good place we're very satisfied with that likewise the transportation fund same process there and as we've talked in in months past our salaries continue to track a little higher we've just been more successful our staffing levels are are uh up from years past so that's tended to raise our expenses there likewise and these supplies and materials once again fuel prices versus what we were paying same time last year as we talked about those those fuel contracts still trending a little high so so we are a little to the um to the negative as a total there in transportation but not cause for alarm when we continue to monitor that I'm very impressed I don't think I've had a CFO explained to me before why a red X is a good thing did a good job there um on on keeping our employee employee level High um there are no there are no red X's anywhere that cause you great concern no no ma'am okay any questions any other further questions thank you yes so first of all thank you so very much I do just wonder and this is just for me as somebody that is new to the board trying to understand for the general fund the state support dollars look to be less than what were projected can you just explain why that is sure there are certain funds um that that when they distribute it them to us they come out only twice a year and if we don't budget them and divide those out over those disbursements we just kind of say hey on average we're going to get this much per month then then the month to month can be off and I and that's what you've seen there in that state support some of the dollars that we get we haven't got it yet because this is as of May 31 so we'll get those and they'll be reflected in future months reports our ADM for second semester could adjust also because remember we do two ads so it's not included yet that should be included by now it's in the actual it would not have been in the original budget or the you know the original projection so we did lose a few students but not to be alarmed well and then I do have another question along those like lines superintendent Smith and Mr Miles when it's my understanding though that there are those transfer funds that do come in correct for students not just on ADM is that accurate or is it only ADM um I'm not following the transfer funds part okay so if you so if you have the transfer funds if you have students of something from let's say Beech Grove oh okay I'm sorry yes those after ADM we those are we do not collect any dollars for those students I felt like Title One there were Title One funds and other funds that we were allowed to collect um outside of ADM for more from the standpoint of our general fund those we get a twice or twice a year ADM count that fall and then the February count are what these dollars reflect the title one I'm just clarifying title one we do get transfer monies in for those students if they come after ADM or no go ahead Troy we do get transfer funds for students through title one we also pay other districts transfer funds and these are for students who attend private schools within our enrollment area and so is there I guess that's leading to the next question I'm sorry I'm so Finance this is not my forte clearly but I um so is there a time too that we get a breakdown of those other dollars that we were see from both the federal and the state such as Title 1 and ESP special ed all of that yes we can we get those updates really on a monthly basis depending on what the fund is and and and how those may change over time if if there is changes then yeah we get we get those updates a lot of that goes through towards departments as far as the um the title dollars and those types of things thank you absolutely but I think for our board members question ADM is everything and it happens twice a year uh and so we have this year October count of the actually October 2nd for the upcoming school well we're already into the new school year and then we'll have a February 1st or 2nd map of 2024.

forty thousand people he asked if you keep that and make it back from the of course we agreed to and then in addition they'll still be on reserved 960 thousand dollars so when you add those four things up the reserve should be about 5.4 million after the drawback so the reason Reserve got higher than anything in uh looking for the two years when we're not in session 100 of the time in 19 20 year 19 2019 20 20 21. first of those schools closed in March and when the close the books and Records it was 2.4 million unencumbered primarily from staff detail it is the following year we did not open a full-time in September it wasn't until January and when uh back and so there were fewer costs as well okay and so in that second covert here uh 2.8 million volts on the covered at the end of June and in both cases those monies gone back to the city and that that's what cool City to Resorts I'd like to think that it's it's those monies that were growing down really for pandemic reasons because we've had trouble filling the positions someone argue with the recent health insurance claims are higher it's because there wasn't as much preventive care during the I understand people weren't going to adopters as much and we are seeing a number of more individual high cost claims than we normally would our our Brokers tell us that's one of the reasons it was so high and so I think I think it's all connected but it's those two years it brought the money thank you the new reading program wasn't decided on until part of the United States if there were two other mandated voters that made a choice and they chose the one that has been standard but of course there's because it couldn't jump around here and it might want to take advantage of communication and they really wanted it to go from Cake to cry that just came into being affects your device it's done correct it is so this is the reading program right and and Louisa I mentioning the other things because because we didn't realize those savings then the combinational reading programs and these other outstanding issues the money so I believe paid for it we have two big bills essentially in front of us the 23-24 items does overview plus the lead program the reading program certainly a development typically the reserves are available or unexpected costs and this certainly leads the criteria for that we thought initially with the savings computer throughout I paid for this internally uh we we can't do those we can't the same thing that we did not realize plus the reading program we can't control the cleanest way is to regardless of the reserve levels and find another way to pay for all of it so we have over six million dollars that you've made up for 23 24 to reading program how do you have to pick up so we have to make up six million so we have three so so it's really a college approach to get to those 4.7 million um we're asking partly for reserves to be drawn down but we're also working to reduce our plans and primarily in three areas some of the supplies and materials you can plan to purchase within a before that we're going to reduce our utility budgets that was at the suggestion of the City Finance director utility costs utility prices will come down a little since February were really peaking and then some staffing positions that because of the enrollment shifts we don't think we'll need we're going to put those three things together to come up for 1.6 million of called fortnite so we'd like to think we're doing our part you're not asking the city for everything a combination approach yes John can I just ask one question I just want to make sure I'm clear on this you mentioned four aspects of the um the reserves dollars that have been kept in the last one I think we said it was 960 000 or so or can you clarify what that is if you talk about the workers around if you talk about the EPL and you said yeah it's just what was left we're going to need to ask for it [Music] are basically for insurance um and claims workers um so that so we're taking some of the reserves for our insurance Banks under a reserved form was established when we started to self-insure correct yes but but that will remain you won't take that down what was really taking down our votes balances we've given back the last couple years oh that's the way my question would be um we're making this functional Delight requests yes [Music] the answer is yes to that um trying to get some political work with the finance record and one representative for the mayor's office Albertson joined us for that the laid out the problem and explained uh why it happened and why didn't happen and uh the police and mayor's office and the finance office are supporting our request so if you think we're we're in as best shape as we can be going to the city council and this looks it's already standing at me it will take place at home I'm sorry I it is it is our understanding that that meeting will take place in August 180 dollars and my final report please um so because there's so much is I guess you might find a question as we talk about the reason that we know that we need this within our students to use men when we put together the budget was that amount included no it was I mean not okay thank you so the discussion of drawing down on The Preserve already took place to draw so they're aware that we're going to come up with this request they are so they're different we need to have them already and so this was already a part of the conversation you feel more more than that they gave me some homework to do they asked you to go back and look at all the utility projects so I gave along with Chipotle University they asked us to confirmal for the health insurance broker so I think that too and with those two homework assignments are you ready to move maybe three weeks ago thank you okay so I just want to make sure given that we're asking for the three million dollars at one time funding source is the intention to spend this on the the degree program which is going to be a one-time expense so it's like a transaction that way we're not short compared because we did some of that money in that Friday oh excellent happens um who's a broker consultant calendar and onward Cigna our area to uh on much larger number of individuals with claims more than fifty thousand dollars to call those high cost points and when they look at the number of people that's historically not close to what we usually have so we've impressed them if they think that would continue they did not say yes right now we're thinking it's a canal uh really related to the pandemic yes any outside real quick at the end of May I believe you just have to say that your school system was pulling 100 150 totally fine and that was not true right so you know I think everybody should have been hell yeah you know everything is great but it was just for this year so we're still sure so you know that word poorly funny I don't know who came what what but we need to be very clear as to what was fun what we're going into the next section with and what we're going to be needing so to say is an American breakdown to the Board of Ed who is birthing us he did watching based on what our professional team here put forward that would totally front us which was which was the ask right that was what he asked for the mayor did give what we asked for so I believe we weren't fully funded they saw from our request from the night if you'd like okay so two two different things what happened after was we discovered that we're sure so we improved the budget as a board we put a fourth to the may we asked for 9 million he gave the 9 million so he fully funded our repressor I'm not one of the defense anymore you guys know that but the fact is that we asked for it he gave it so he wants one is going to say the problem lies a couple months later but later hopefully you know we didn't we didn't find this we didn't find out so at the time of the budget that we proposed it was awarded the full act so that's where everybody gets to fully follow from right so describe just for clarification so I like to move forward with this whole um so we had second we have discussions or all those in favor any folks okay upstairs all right discussion The Closer by attendant goals assuming that's why I've got two different schools in here they know our 10 minute rules presentations yes yes yes and we're all RV discussion uh this evening so I just wanted to quickly say to the board typically our goals are discussed and agreed upon somewhere between November and I think this evening we're well positioned with some anticipating momentum in this meeting let's open up a school year with goals to hip-hop 2016.

we write that flexibility in just but we're going to try to pay this off in two years okay yep all right so I'm I'm going to get with Mr Taylor to explain this a little more but my main concern is our growing debt fund cap or I mean our amount that we have put in here and it seems to me that reading down this list uh things that we need to get done I don't understand why some of it couldn't have been done as we are now in the midst of selling put in the other bonds that we've sold already and that work had been done but uh I guess it needs to be explained to me or to the taxpayers and the parents and everybody else that has a concerned on where the money goes here that it gets spent wisely so uh until I meet with Mr Taylor a little more and get more familiar-wise with it I guess I don't understand a lot about it but there's just so many things that uh go along like uh for the center the wellness center it it was a six million dollar Bond sale well the bids come in at four million dollars so what are we going to do with the other two million dollars and change that's left well I know that there was some buses that need to be bought and other things but here again we're running that bond fund debt fund up and we don't have the cash to pay for it so that's just my comments right now thank you Mr poor are there any other members of the public who have any comments about the public hearing all right I now close um this public hearing are there any board members who have any comments or questions okay I need a motion at the very bottom of it Mr President I move that we approve the preliminary determination for the cpf maintenance miscellaneous Bond thank you Mr Daniels thank you Mrs counts uh we have a motion in a second all those in favor signify by saying aye aye all those opposed motion passes 4-0 thank you next order of business is accept bids for the robotics Edition thank you Mr Alexander this evening I'm recommending that the board accept the bids for the robotics Edition and Dr long will provide you with some additional information thank you good evening tonight with from uh hunt a common Hunt Construction as Jim goley project executive and Chad Peters the senior project manager if you recall at the March 23 2023 board meeting we asked the board to reject the bids for the robotic Edition because we felt we had found a way to reduce the cost of construction we worked with the architect and AECOM hunt and were able to reduce the cost to construct the addition by 31 854 dollars it's not as much as we were hoping but we were still able to reduce the cost without changing the square footage or any of the scope of this project on June 13th we received one bid for the robotics Edition from Dalman Contracting Contracting Corporation back in March we only received two bids and Dalman was the low bidder back in March as well on June 14 2023 a come hunt held a d scope meeting with them and based on their review of the meeting of the bid the D scope meeting and the budget there recommending we accept the bid from Domin Contracting Corporation in the amount of 477 404 dollars thank you Dr Long any questions for Dr long I've got a couple questions and I guess Bill whether it's you or whether it's Chad or Jim from from haunt um I know our our reasoning and and rejecting the first and going of the second as we thought there was a a different way this could be constructed and and in essence saving money and we've done that we've saved money and I know we'd hope to save a little more but I guess should we proceed with this type of construction is it worth the thirty thousand dollars to proceed with this as opposed to the original plan that is a chat question sorry I bill I was looking at that I appreciate that and Chad just kind of Chad was looking at me the reason I asked is because you know we want to build things quality we want to build things to last and we were assured that this is quality this would last but I it's worth the 30 000 to make this kind of change as opposed to going with the original scope open the way they design was everything is quality of just as is well constructed as it would have been with the Supreme market right now was really tough I'm not so sure that it wasn't just you know Contracting we're so busy and this is a little bit of a smaller scope it is a project right compared to other projects if you're funny and the time you're not losing anything you look at this building from the original designs of this one you would know framing design same useful life same absolutely and you realize that I only asked that question the same day that we omitted your contract [Laughter] and I I believe this is an important addition I just don't want to be you know saving thirty thousand dollars and finding out that well we got a hundred thousand dollars less of a building there's the the life the life of this building and the usefulness of it is we're pre-engineered metal buildings when you change tuber Micro Engineering to a metal stud variety with metal trusses for engineered when you get so small it drives the building will be better insulated timeline it will be a quicker project to construct I mean I'm not disappointed we're saving thirty thousand I'm happy we're saving thirty thousand I just want to make sure we're getting what we're we're getting value appreciate it 'll be ready to go when school starts you should have just said yes all right any other questions good question all right I need a motion please Mr President I know thank you Mr Robinson do I have a second thank you Mrs countless we have a motion and a second all those in favor signify by saying aye aye all those opposed motion passes 4-0 thank you all right next up is accept bids for the high school facts renovation Dr arkanov thank you Mr Alexander this evening I'm recommending that the board accept the bids for the high school facts renovation and once again Dr long will provide you with some information thank you if you recall uh we are looking to build an additional fax kitchen at the high school to meet the course request demands for our students and this is also a career pathway for some of our students to meet the graduation requirements on June 13th of 2023 we we received bids for the high school facts renovation project we receive bids forbid packet one General trades bid packet two Mechanical plumbing and fire protection and bid packet four Food Service on June 14th and 15th a income hunt held d-scope meetings with the low Bettors and based on their review of the bids and the d-scope meetings they are recommending accepting the bids as presented below altogether we received eight bids for the four bid packets we did not receive any bids for bid packet three electrical and the estimated lower cost of that project because of the estimated lower cost of that part of the project we're in the processes of of obtaining three quotes to do that work tonight we're recommending the board except the bids for the following bid packets bid packet one to Domin Contracting Corporation name should sound familiar in the amount of 241 668 dollars big packet two to Griner Brothers in the amount of 443 thousand eight hundred dollars and bid packet four CNT design in the amount of 406 822 dollars uh the award of these three bed package packages totals one million ninety two thousand 290 dollars we should be finished with the classroom so it can be used for the second semester of the upcoming school year thank you Dr Long any questions for Dr Long awesome can I get a motion I feel like I should ask him a question because he always expects me to ask could you ask Chad another one I have no I I do want to point out um the the two bids that we ask you to approve tonight both academic uh oriented so sometimes people think we get wrapped up in doing other things but both of these were strictly academic and I think it's important to point that out that these projects are focused solely on academics I feel like I should have somehow formed that in the question okay well I actually the exciting part about this I mean obviously our facts program at the high school has grown which is what's caused the need for this so I'm excited to see that that program is growing and we have more interest from the students now wanting to do that and I know we've talked about it in nauseam but you know not a big conflict with C9 but to help supplement that because we only get so many spots at C9 so good point awesome do I have a motion thank you Mrs counts do I have a second thank you Mr Robinson we have a motion in a second all those in favor signify by saying aye all those opposed motion passes 4-0 thank you next up is approve 2023-24 student handbook revisions Dr arkanov or Dr Nelson well I was just going to say thank you and I'm recommending that the board do approve the 2324 student handbook revisions and Dr Nelson is going to provide you with some details yep sure can so again we bring you tonight the 23-24 student handbooks with the addition of the academy handbook as well this is a new handbook that will follow the guidelines of the elementary middle school and high school we had a committee this year that worked over the course of the year and involved administrators teachers parents and we put students in this year for student input we also worked with the Johnson County Probation office and updated the book based off of or the handbooks based off of new legislative guidelines so in front of you are the proposed policy changes and I'm just going to kind of summarize as we go through them for elementary we have expanded the visitor and volunteer guidelines to include tutors and mentors our Innovation Innovation Center volunteers and also Club sponsors the language and the attendance policies and guidelines now matches K-12 and that is with the definitions that include lost and struck what lost instruction time is unexcused and unacceptable absences excuse acceptable acceptable absences students released from the clinic and then the physical or mental incapacitation under electronic equipment policy we have elementary students coming to school with smart watches and they're getting lost and so we have added that to electronics that should not come to school and for discipline we match the Middle School language for suspensions and also the expulsion procedures this ensures that there's continuity with the same language when students transition from the elementary to the Middle School starting July 1st there will be a new house enrolled act 1483 and this goes with our bully policy which requires Indiana schools to notify parents of a bullying victim within three business days after that incident has been reported and to notify parents of an alleged bully perpetrator within five business days we have added that new language to the handbook our technology policies and guidelines have been updated for charges for damage or lost Chromebooks and iPads and then this section all known as formally textbook rental is now for loss or damaged curricular material and this statement shares that students are responsible for all curricular materials If lost stolen or damaged for the Middle School very very proud of Mrs Thomas I noticed here one of the ads it looks like I'm trying to find a page number it's 12.

of our activities we do all year long all of our spirit activities all of our service activities all the things that they work hard on all year round we were recognized for and so that was fantastic individually they did a great job we brought home a total of 145 awards that were in the top five placings those are academic tests [Applause] those are academic tests those are graphic arts that they've made Ulta for art projects before convention and taking them with them those are creative arts competitions that they prep for and competed at convention things like memorizing Latin oratory and delivering it as if they were a Roman order giving a speech in the Roman Forum which some of us just saw about a week ago things like that that individually is then working really hard and coming home and doing this everybody always says yeah coach this coach that and sure great we pushed them we push them hard they're like yes yes they do but if it weren't for them coming through and doing the hard work we wouldn't achieve the things that we achieve and so we say thank you to them and we just hope you appreciate all their hard work they they work hard all year long and they do a fantastic job so thank you now if we can get you all together so Miss green can get your picture coaches in there as well do they need to okay you're free to go all right item three in tonight's again it seems we're having another loss of special education paraprofessionals and is is there a plan to recapture what can we do to entice more to come to our school corporation some Discovery every Personal Agenda we lose and lose and lose is there anything we're doing to lure them here sure Dr Terrell sure I would tell you that that is a challenge and it's a challenge across districts across the state we continue to work to make sure that what we're where we're at with pay relates to that entry-level job it is one that is as people move that is one where there they can come in and out of pretty quickly we're continuing to look at benefits we're offering how we're doing that as well come up with some creative ideas actually coming up in the near future we're going to be having a hiring fair that will be centered around positions that are open that are ones where we have some significant turnover trying to address those issues as well and continue to attract people here thank you thank you any other questions all those in favor please signify by saying aye aye those opposed motion carries 5-0 thank you uh action items 5.01 apply for and receive the Indiana Department of Education High ability Grant Mr Hartman thank you of which uh we have to uh minimally spend approximately six thousand three hundred dollars on student identification uh what you have in front of you item 5.02 apply for and receive funding from the 2023-2024 Indiana Department of Education formative assessment Grant Mr Hardman see there was in the state there was almost 14 million dollars that was allocated to formative assessments and these are assessments that are administered to students three times a year for us and it's called an interim assessment uh also this year they did include the PSAT 89 which is something we administered and actually charged students of which we wouldn't have done but it's going to be nice this year that we can add that to the formative assessment Grant uh get some reimbursement from the state we don't know what the allocation is until all participants in the grant across the state submit the number of students and then we do get an allocation we'll accept expect somewhere around a hundred thousand dollars that as far as this grant is concerned so seeking your approval to apply for and receive that funding for the recommendation of the administration to to apply for and receive funding from the 2023-2024 Department of Education formative assessment grant for an amount to be determined in the future may we have a motion so motion by so this is the second year yes foreign you know a couple of times but by the same children as far as this past year I don't think I forgot anybody about something oh God sexual chance conference champs this year the girls soccer for college Champs in their Cascade over there girls track at three regional qualifiers I think so we had a lot of participants in our track program uh boys across country at two boys cross country by the way is changing its format moving forward I said four weeks it will be only three weeks so there's a lot of things doing that right now yeah because I mean were there at least like the Regionals they're shrinking them they're not acquaintance yeah remember then there'll be less like two kids that are 18 set free stuff like that it's making it tougher but uh movement uh then of course girls basketball team um championships just a lot going on a lot of kids are participating I think one thing that I have noticed in the last two years is our kids are stronger our kids are faster I think it's Andrew Corrado program I think it really came off especially for those kids who are doing it participating I noticed a difference from year one to year two around basketball players that they were a lot stronger in the second year I think that makes a big difference I think we are catching up in that area not that we've been behind but I think it's getting Progressive that's better I think that's a big thing for us as you know like going to this opportunity so it's pretty much around the kid wants once they get bigger and stronger and faster they have a chance so moving forward this year a lot of kids participating there's been probably one of this talk of the conference situation questions for me on that next year will not change regardless uh Equity will not change regardless of sexual original alignment it's all to your reputation but moving forward to sectionals Scott chain with a percentage basis instead of an enrollment basis we are in I I think we'll be class two again but I think I think that with our sophomore class is Big freshman company I think are big as far as members might poisonous right there because you get the 50 percentile if you go 51 percent you're in three days I guess 50 to 51 percent basis percent of Y I think yeah divided into four or keeping four classes they wanted five but some of the big schools who are going to complained the most inevitable that's where the commission is from uh we've got a lot of uh noise in this year Well executive committee I don't think voted for his proposal but his proposal was five classes in the top class the mega class with 1000 thousands of years maybe 30.

okay so those two dates are extremely important students that come after that we don't get additional dollars as far as our and that's the big numbers that we have up here on the board but as Troy indicated with title dollars there is some shifting but also Troy we shift dollars out if students go other places am I correct that's correct and we also provide services at our private schools and so that's what that transfer money is intended to pay for right well it well I just the reason to asking is because I know um our vice president worked very diligently um to advocate for additional High ability dollars and I know that regardless of that there was additional funds given Statewide but we did not receive those so just trying to be as transparent as we can with folks that these are just some pots of money but there are others and sometimes what we read in the news is not actually what comes to fruition to our district unfortunately so that was the the reason for the question also when we do our budget work I believe in October when we do when we do our budget work for the following year we we get a very detailed um list of all of our expenditures um passed past and and projected so I think some of those things will be reflected in October um and you can we and you can always ask to to see those those that information are we good with the financial report yeah we're going to go on to our board committee chair reports and can I start with you miss Dunn I am very happy that I already had a spokesperson that shared what is happening and just again want to exp our community of LT moms uh also the only other update I have is actually a request if you feel led to donate mostly donate of your time funds are always welcome I know as we get ready to start the school year there's always opportunities to help stuff backpacks and get supplies ready so I would just encourage anyone who would like to help or put their kid to work giving back go to msdltf.org to sign up thank you thank you and Miss Puckett how are those Parks coming along oh great and also our Farmers Market was started first of October that is moving forward what day should we go there it's Thursday it's Thursdays you go other days you're not going to get your sweet corn dad sweet corn won't be there well board um thank you so much for the community anything else thank you so much for continue to improve the lives of our students through the our dedication to Equitable outcomes for all students High academic rigor for all students respect for our staff both certified and classified continued fiscal responsibility adherence to exceptional State safety standards and initiating our new strategic plan which was brought to the board this spring after deep Community input we thank the administration all of you in Lawrence Township for working with this board in the process and we appreciate your willingness to serve our community as we update our board goals year after year not least we're very happy to roll out these board goals as promised by July 1st in order that our building leaders and staff can incorporate them into the daily work of our schools from day one thank you each and every board member for your passion and your commitment to all of our students I appreciate each appreciate each of you very much having said that um I would ask Mr kuznick and Dr Brown to funds uh due to the time sensitivity of sensitivity of that we bring that back tonight for a vote um we would I would report back uh once those final amounts are known during the August board meeting um and at this time I recommend that this resolution be passed by the board I have a motion so moved okay second properly moved and seconded any questions about the transfer of funds okay everyone in favor aye aye aye any opposed okay we have approved the transfer of funds veteran president I now move approval or I I move we treat action items 5.7 through 5.13 as consent agenda is there a second second um are there any questions and just to clarify for those who are listening into our meeting that those include um our our our second monthly agenda items board minutes Personnel reports claims service agreements pay apps approval field trips and approval of fundraisers which we do traditionally treat as a consent agenda so having been um moved and seconded all in favor of treating those items as a consent agenda hi hi any opposed okay so we have a consent agenda now now I move approval of the consent agenda I do that right second properly moved and seconded um any discussion with no discussion all in favor of approving the consent agenda I I any opposed we've approved our consent agenda um Lord thank you for a great meeting and um I'm always a little supercharged after meeting with all of our fabulous kiddos and they're seeing their accomplishments and so I'll move on um Miss Puckett word comments tonight I do not have any comments tonight as you had said it's always exciting to see the kids and family celebrate I was able to celebrate my kid also it's always awesome thank you thank you everybody miss Norman um I wanted to recognize one of my constituencies here today uh Mr John Strauss I believe you were in the stakeholder Academy too yeah so um I appreciate you attending our meeting and we always welcome our public to come and interact and and be part of what we're doing so and then secondly family that was a theme that I heard about with the Juneteenth celebration and I've been to a lot of extracurricular events that involve it's not part of the school but it involves a lot of people in our school community and just seeing the continued engagement and the family feel of everybody interacting competing with and against each other in the summer season it's just great it doesn't stop even when the school year does president um I actually was very intentional about my comments tonight because I wanted to be intentional about my thanks to this board so if you all will bear with me for just a moment I wanted to read something that I've written in our family we have a mantra that we say to each other every day it's so important in fact that we have a sign that hangs above our staircase be a leader make good choices treat people I get weepy when I talk about but this treat people with respect and kindness we've had a lot of back and forth on this Deus around our board goals and lots of other issues as a board we've disagreed and we've negotiated and we've come to a place that I believe really sets the stage for the next year of Excellence for our district I want to thank each of you for the Humane and dignified way that we've interacted disagreement is part of democracy like our community we are not a monolith and I'm proud that we are willing to stand up for what we believe in and what we believe is right I also want to say happy Pride many people I love identify as a member of that community and I want to acknowledge them I'm good I'm good this makes me happy to see up here in the same way that I acknowledge and celebrate women or black or Latino families or indigenous members of this community during the election I pointed out many videos that are still on my website my belief that students regardless of race religion ability gender identity or sexual orientation should be treated as individuals not as talking points that regardless of how people feel On Any Given issue regardless of how I feel that we should expect that we as a community value and respect one another just as we do here on this board I am here we are all here to love and serve every child in this District equally here's what I know when we look past our differences and embrace each other with the same heart that we've displayed here these things don't make us weaker they make us stronger we are not a community divided sure we disagree just as we've shown on this day as many times but I believe we have it in us to see our differences as our greatest asset I am grateful and feel incredibly blessed to be able to live these values not just in my home but also as a member of this board be a leader make good choices treat people all people with respect and kindness those are my comments thank you thank you it's done well that's hard to follow up but I did want to make sure that I um share some perspectives for myself because I do know voting no on the board goals um I wanted to make sure that I just share some things so I also prepared something as well in June of 1993 after graduating from Indiana University I joined what was then a new teaching core called Teach for America some call it TFA for short while the organization has changed substantially over the years my reason for joining and subsequently teaching in a first grade bilingual classroom at lazier Elementary in Oakland California was very very simple Teach for America held firm in the belief that there will be a day when every child will receive an excellent and Equitable education it's been almost 30 years since I walked into that portable in jingletown I have since had the tremendous opportunity to teach in numerous districts and positions and unfortunately I have seen the achievement Gap continue to grow despite tremendous efforts and commitment from school Personnel across the country one of my whys for running for the school board was to support the efforts of MD msdlt to not only continue becoming a district of destination but that one that has Equitable outcomes for all children regardless if they attend Sunnyside Amy Beverly and Forest Glen Brook Park or any one of our elementary middle or high schools I firmly believe that this District can and will achieve those results while I did not vote Yes on our board goals as I don't believe that they are specific and measurable enough I am as committed as ever in msdlt becoming a district where folks come from all over the U.S to see how the efforts of all School staff have achieved what some believe is impossible for I stay firm in my commitment that anything is possible here in msdlt thank you very much Miss Dunn um I I would like to say that um my work with this board has expanded my understanding of our work and our my understanding of how we come to agreement and and how we make possible for each of us um with the same passion with the same passions for achievement for our students and for good lives for our families we still make room for each other to disagree about how we go about that but we still still believe in the power of the majority and we still fight with everything we have for the best outcomes for our kiddos I appreciate each and every one of you and I'm very excited right now to tell you we have a young man in our audience tonight Mr Brogan Jones who is here as would you like to stand Mr Jones who's here working on merit badges for citizenship and Community with uh Boy Scouts troop 276 we're very glad to have you with us tonight hope it was helpful and I'd love for you to come up and meet the board at the end of our meeting thank you very much [Applause] some final words for us thank you ladies wonderful in to the 22-23 school year and July 17th will be here before you know it we'll talk 23 23 24.

we have what you received on Friday was 20 plus action steps that the team and I developed over the last few weeks these goals are largely connected to our strategic plan retaining goals and we wanted to make sure there was some goals available for discussion this evening because I think this will really help us to land on some readathon goals for that school at the same time I'm hoping that I'm just going back to one of our discussions and student evaluation meeting wanted to make sure we had an opportunity to talk about our Workshop schedule for next year and give the feedback from the board to potentially Identify some areas that we really want to hear about and then we can also make sure that we kind of underline and highlighted those areas as well to make sure we're providing a deeper understanding for you in our workshop model there's kind of a worksheet or Store card if you will in front of you one is the free handout with our three students on South Street this is superintendent proposed goals but then there's another handout and at the top it says goal selection and feedback worksheet for the special ed median the first page that says teaching of learning in a little something like this and on the left hand side of the document on the actual proposal goals for next school year on the right hand side of the document or really simply yes or no this is a goal we should be focusing on you know superintendent goals for the next year and then underneath that um yes or no but this is something new and respectable board members would like to have a deeper conversations with at our workshops so what I've asked the team came back to do is I will briefly go over all six goals and then if you have any questions at any point either myself or the team and I can provide providification so you clearly understand what we mean by some of the actions here and so there are six strategic areas that we focus on teaching and learning staff development School climate medical collaboration and resource allocation there are a number of action steps underneath the airport proposed those typically who does that have this many as part of the superintendent goals package and so the idea is try to provide a number of additional like areas you like to crafts with us and then new discussion down to a more mannerable number for 22.4 frankly the team and I will be focusing on all of them I've definitely superintendical some would kind of sick inside the Strategic type regardless but we want to make sure we extract the area he wants to public sector this year and then if every expectation that we would share your feedback and maybe goals for my office with all of my departments across the district and that will also play your welcome to the chiefs of the goal setting and school recruiting Finance from our schools as well as so any questions about just kind of the activity itself and then I will just when the system left no I think um it will be appropriate as we go through um I'll quickly brief you on the six areas and as I'm going through feel free to write the comments or some questions that you might have and then we can go back in and as we go along it's like oh this is what I absolutely think we should focus on absolutely efficiently at Workshop um yes so yes and we'll just continue to vote on the document people just kind of just kind of talked about it so Ken I understand you also have this on the board for the board and the public as well as your presentation sorry I haven't turned around yet and on page one it's gold more area of teaching and learning and it's going to pay out quickly walking through the four proposed both benefits develop articulated program to study for all career Pathways and so there's considerable amount of work that needs to be done we've already curriculum development and creating kind of being a pathway uh this sequence of courses in every pathway for 9-12 students and talking to some discussions that certainly is going to impact our curriculum office but also it's going to directly impact on the future experience through the high school frankly I think that's kind of exciting of 1.2 engage board event and current DPS staff and deeply of understanding of the national standards of practice necessary to make the academies of Danbury a national model and so there's a criteria in place for the academic model if we're really really doing this well and of course our expectations that we will we will be kind of given the ribbon as a national model and so I I understand this is not Nashville Tennessee but it is Danbury Connecticut and so regionally we've built potentially attract Regional waste of schools to our district come watch Danbury in action to give feedback from our board to give feedback from our constituents in the city but it's not until we've been selected as a national model to kind of given that Rhythm can we participate in that time be on this side of the table T so just as an expectation we would like to walk forward through but also the constituents in the city what does it take to get there one part of retrained staff and implement the new are for a free reading program I know our board members have been part of the curriculum committee I've heard several presentations about this and 23 24 will be a big deal airport employee staff development and last but not least we're both on establish a collaborative team to reconceptualize and redesign Middle School programming and common experiences and let me just explain to the planet are going to detail everything as part of our proposal the board Might Recall it's not only a new physical a new high school because it's also carved out a building for middle school because we could do the 65 students and so we need to come up with what the theme is going to be for that building how kids are going to get there but and then whatever happens there we need to talk about all four now of our middle schools and we need to really think to what this can be through the entire city so the idea is given that we have some opportunity to be able to just do Middle School which is part of the projection I talk about all about middle schools to make sure that what we don't want to have is West Side here School of Danbury Career Academy that's cycle here to comprehensive schools here that we have a middle school operating that's totally different across the city of Danbury so we want to make sure there's an opportunity for all of us to discuss what different look like students so I will pause there and see if there are any questions or feedback of course to devices goal 1.3 cake and three I understand it is 145.

uh it deals with immigration appointment meetings documentation yep that's an excused absence this is just making sure they get documentation within a certain time period yes so we have just was what we were talking about with our Equity report we've had a 500 increase in the number of kids who are coming in um as enl and a lot of them are needing immigration paperwork um we did not have that in our handbook we've had lots of questions from parents and from our own staff about excusable or unexcusable so we wanted to make sure that we had that language in there all they have to do is bring in they get an immigration sheet show that and it would be an excuse absence for them and do we communicate that to any of our non-english speakers in different languages do we have that capability I don't we do have that capability we could do it in different languages I know our enl staff is very good to let them know that yes just bring that in and it would be you know and the immigration a lot of them have to go up to Chicago and so there's just that form that they bring it in yeah good good yes so they don't have to make that long trip and that's why with the absence sometimes it was a couple days by the time they got up there got through immigration and came back because I'd hate to see somebody miss the 15 day because they didn't understand right yeah no we'll make sure that that happens but yes we can definitely do that thank you I didn't mean to be an interruption no no that was good to point out um again in Middle School um Mrs Todd who is over at Middle School Central and Mrs height who is at Middle School North worked very well together to align both handbooks um this included the attendance policies their discipline and school rules and regulations um again that like just like I said for the elementary handbook the attendance policy is consistent across K-12 so that there is common language for all of our parents and community members School regulations for discipline was updated with electronic equipment policies backpacks will not be allowed in hallways during the school day this year and phones and wireless headphones of any type are not allowed on in the classroom during the school day so that students can be engaged in their learning the bully policy just like Elementary was updated for the new legislation and then a new language was added for discipline levels at Middle School Central and the expulsion procedure language now matches for both schools we also did the same for middle school as we did for elementary and that is that loss or damaged curricular material statement and then our wonderful athletic directors work together to update the athletic eligibility language in both handbooks for the high school not as many changes again textbook rental was changed to our lost or damaged curricular policy same guidelines for health services for the elementary that match the elementary and middle school also attendance apology policy changes uh that match K-8 and then the biggest one I think for high school is new language was added to electronic equipment to help avoid student distractions and that language is cell phones and other electronic devices including but not limited to earbuds airpods and smart watches are not permitted during class time without the express permission of a classroom teacher and that was part of the high school and they brought teachers in the admin together for that part that's it DVDs yes a little dated yeah you know what they may be making a comeback though you never know we did yes we did hey Rob all those things you have in your garage now [Laughter] I got a kick out of reading that yeah yeah they are finally removed just wanted to make sure they were at a date before we took them out of there the boxes are back in I guess they could could do that they probably yes Nelson all right do I have a motion Mr President I knew that we approved the 2023-24 student handbook Provisions thank you Mrs counts do I have a second second thank you Mr Daniels we have a motion in a second all those in favor signify by saying aye all those opposed motion passes four zero thank you I'm saving your back one day at a time exactly uh announcements just a reminder we'll be reconvening the executive session um following the conclusion of the work session the good for the Grove um announcements July 20th we have an executive session at 6 pm and we have a regular board meeting at 7.

the largest 20 largest 20 of schools and now it's going to be instead of okay okay right right thirty percent 25 around 2A 25 or 3A with twenty percent okay so you could essentially have a team in three eight four eight and a half two students difference you know based on how to break into them yeah Montgomery County schools and Western boom and Frankford moving out of the Sagamore conference believing TriWest uh they have a North Carolina to join that conference or right now it's a 16 conference they have expressed interest with the greenhouse on Cascade at San Francisco they want uh I didn't go to the meeting at school here with those five athletic records six athletic records in Cascade was there uh just for informational purposes just to listen to them this is what we're doing are you interested information so it's kind of a they said in office they would like to kind of help my biggest question to them was if we don't say yes right away because they're not going to be late I don't know what they're thinking but my personal opinion is love start with the 16 conference see how that thing's working out and it's going well you know I know some of our coaches are interested competition so that's that's kind of a Chad Roger and I have talked a little bit yeah they're still there's still a long way to go that's kind of overall how did concessions go yeah yeah I thought well I and uh what I what I wanted football games and we've talked about this with them but I haven't sat down I'll sit down and the junior class concession stand and I went for the truck their little trailer on the visitor's side because you lose a lot of sales people don't want to walk over and I expected that thank you Valley um if they want to do that but did they do anything in the spring or just basketball did it and how did that go I mean it seems like there's usually not quite enough people upstairs but I think the people enjoyed it there's a difference in being able to buy that whatever so you know I I Heard lots of comments and they were all good yeah I I thought it was good and uh right down the spring that will follow us with you know Advance every night on Fridays and things like that and basketball's big too across also four or five um the only complaint I ever heard was that it just took a while but that must mean it's good enough people are standing in line waiting for it well it did but we tried to fix that a couple times one was lady retired in the middle of the year and so she didn't want the successes when you started using both organized and you know my thought too is popcorn you shouldn't have to wait on the maps it got better but I think I think some of that too is making sure you have enough people to deal with it and how how did that compare to all right the year before when you did have to do it I didn't I don't really remember I mean a lot of times before we were busy running out for Twitter products and kids and that kind of way so we didn't get much so this is how for me for the Athletics yeah well good yeah good job I would like to say and that's been very helpful information maybe the next board meeting we could talk about whether or not we want to consider finding ways to get students in uh I think it's just a discussion having before we start thinking about selling yeah well here's what I will say about that we've talked about this before but I was on the board with students but I've lived on bucket changed that because uh especially football games and and some basketball games free babysitter drop your kids off you may or may not come back again then you had to have people there to try to get the kids off the field out of mac and how they would not just turn eight-year-old kids lose so it became a a real big hassle and that really dropped off yeah I think we can make a tour like high school kids to come for free and middle school kids can get it free but they have to be there with a parent or guardian of some sort but I don't know what it used to be like back in Don's days as far as how many people are in The Stance but I'd sure like to see more students just something for us to think about well the one thing I always do that the more I hear more about the schools that allow grandparents you know above a certain age and I hear more of that talk than I do one of my kids asked me to get in yeah years there's a lot of people I learned everybody it really is amazing yeah I know I hear that too yeah yeah it's just amazing and then you have a boy that first video you've never seen in the game never seen them in a game before yeah we're going to offend a lot of people too how old are you yeah exactly so I inherited um you have new football coaches new basketball coaches he's feeling pretty good about all that I think so uh you know time will tell on that I think that you know there's there's things going on this summer I feel like for the most part yeah once you work with people day to day five times a day you know every day of the week you get to know what they're all about you know as far as how we deal with kids and how they organize they're willingness to inform if necessary yeah I think so I think that you know the day of when there's a head coach opening very beautiful wine at the 15 solid candidates is over you know back in Ryan when I started out coaching it was being legal for a middle school job we had an interview for it and you were lucky to get it now sometimes it's just changed so much but the yearly yearly the force would give to people here sometimes go into the mobile and work with them sounds good well I appreciate the time thank you yeah thank you you're welcome to hang around but you don't have to at the same time foreign next item is an approval request for the consent agenda which consists to the meeting minutes of the regular meeting of May 22nd 2023 the allowance of claims the financial report Personnel reports part one and two they're on the website and the door Mrs Roman yes okay per usual we've got a couple of payrolls in the month of May first payroll is uh May 12th 465 000 210 23 and of course we have a FICA Federal and retirement total on that payroll was 132 983.56 and then the second regular payroll in May was dated May 26 for a total payroll of 466.

47.99 and then the retirement and federal and FICA on that one was 133 692.75 and then we've got a list of prepays and as you can see the list was a little extensive this time we had a lot of add-ons this time we had some partial payments for equipment that we were able to pay out of cares money um we had the ECA Treasurer was out at TZ so we had to kind of help them cover some bases um while their ECA Treasurer was out but was there any questions about any of the prepays for for May no okay so total prepays then for the month of May was 800 692.94.

so I know we've had we've been talking about the fake and file and we can't discuss it one time before they're going to try to get back I'll be able to purchase that in the next like it was at considering I think Kelly's going to help me I think the reading program is just going to 6.5 but it is something else in the first piano yeah so it'll be a two-year rollout first will be paid three and then four and five after um one of the decision-making factors for this program is it does have the ability for an atom at the middle school level so as we continue to roll it out for Robbie Elementary we will come back to the decision of middle school and we did like this program because we do feel that we should be looking for a common so the short answer is as they roll it up that's going to be part of our decision making games three or four thousand for a grade or something like to extend it it is not as expensive I think that might be her classroom but I'd have a little bit maybe exactly thank you you're welcome okay let me just add more control things that's kind of questions [Music] and so we don't have to unpack the new program and learn the new language not to be confused with it but a written language but a new language in terms of a program so we can find that consistency part is that assessment though so I will um I don't see any more questions I don't want to go to um they ask if you could just take a minute to try to be comments or questions and given the briefing we could also write yes or no and start with people like it should be a focus area for us on our Workshop ideas so obviously all these things are underage controls are important so from your standpoint lawyer water what criteria are you using to sort of assess out what these super chemical is specifically that should be Okay so I don't want to downplay this in any way I think for example 1.4 reconceptualizing Middle School all of them are important I think this is the type of goal that you want us I would think this is the one one of the clothes that are undergo one and definitely want us to talk about because if my kid is going to middle school next year I want to know what was going on that's not to suggest that I want to know about what's been here before but I think it would be important because the positions to answer any questions or is that a quiet questions like that might be out there so given that that might be in a good way for more to help determine whether or not this is something worthy of workshop and I frankly if it's really really important to our families I think it's giving of you and more likely to be engaged and kind of connect with the presentation I I would anticipate in middle school so that's an example I think that's a good one um again not to suggest but not all important but the staff development I don't know what we're going to hear about community I guess my power would be are you expecting that of course for for the board excuse me workshops that we choose one Associated Food Connection rules so I'm I'm thinking if we had put this lesson plan together we're thinking if everyone at this table May pick and maybe some commonalities so we would report back overwhelmingly this is what we heard about the war for the most part wants to hear about Middle School right reconception like the middle and so we will make sure one of the workshops actually a focus on that and understood climate we have we see it at the board um really wants to see an update on the court of conduct and how the issue is responding to the issues about students and so if you want to see something on that page get overwhelming that's what we see that we will report back and then talk about the Cadence for our workshops uh and kind of report that again you can ask if we have seen so going from the goals themselves and then report back and say this is what we put together and then also looking at workshops that report back and we won't take that and just put the other sick and see if it wants an agreement because for example I I heard in one of our previous meetings I want to hear more about the academics and as we've been looking at it we work around one we learn very quickly at the Academy work is pretty much found in almost every strategic area but if primarily the board wants to hear feedback updates on what's going on for Academy World in terms of preparation it may not fit necessarily be in in all of them and that's okay in the board must be here mostly about you know Kevin how are you and your team working to grow up all around for a condo and we're dressed in I guess who is the support of the district you know that that those two focuses alone might just be two goals it may take up three or four minutes and I forget that it's important for the board and also a significant impact in terms of adults asking you about clarifying questions that we already know about importance because it is also I think we need to have a discussion about you know we have the space for presentations um to the ones that you can feedback from the board around the workshops then we can talk about or what do we want to do think how about from you and so Caroline is different people are coming to talk about data presentations but we don't have to have her in the workshop model we can have her as one of the neighborhood introducer the media presentation about how people live here um so that's my long way of saying no I don't I don't think it has to be as streamlined to Syracuse Minnesota yes yeah that's what that's out though not that this is a great to go over but I've been able to a board in Tacoma list of things that we want to see as far as it doesn't have to be in in the goals whatever where it is at an academy and the academy touches a bunch of these girls like you said so we want a presentation on our Workshop by the academy what's the structure what's the what's what's the organizational chart what do we offering stuff like that um it's on security so I think I think I think this is great as far as goals but I think as far as workshops of where we're going to spend our time I think we should come up with the Lord should come up with independently of what is preservative if that makes sense yeah I mean it's so Ridley yeah and we're working on those all year long these are something that works out and we get one out of every presentation up there but I think the workshop model was really it didn't work really that well yeah yeah the thing is to drill down on specific topics that the board as a as a whole like [Music] these questions and so yeah I guess I went to church but even looking at a question of like you know probably more into how much camera here so that if you have the whole listing that sort of touches on something that I think you could work out really that you could go down here's the broader suggestions almost specific absolutely yeah right there's a lot of them right so well there are two goals all right uh for this evening and that's one of our handballs in 2024 um and as part of that conversation will also help us land on potentially to create an outlaw for pork chops so I think it's still some opportunity here and reviewing the proposals the next year getting feedback from the board on which one completely focus on what type is number four so we're not waiting until November again um do you anticipate us to complete this tonight and that is document already so we can do it a couple of different ways we will hoping to go through this evening and get feedback on after the presentation as we're going through that our members would check yes this is something I'm interested in learning more about yes this is something I'd like to focus on for next year and then we will provide that feedback for you in another meeting so to see if you can't get closer because it's going to be a part works okay that's and then you know some of the comments it might take a while to cook together you know you need to look at them yeah for me it's just like I'm not comfortable from doing this thing yes you know yes because we have three four of them they're not even here so you know Anthony ever hold on assessment I know that's not your fault but now I I'm just more comfortable with some time that I can look at this and prepare myself to prepare an answer that I'm confident with and that's going to continue to help uh lead our district forward and repeat the goals um to continue doing uh moving our education of 64.

and then you've got a list of claims dated today June 26th um we've got some renewal subscription renewals um we had food services in here let's see what other big ones that we have um oh we had um the deafx training for the Fab Lab at the high school so there was a few Big Ticket items this month on regular claims but total claims was four hundred eleven thousand two thirty Three Sixty did anyone have any questions about any of the claims for June okay we'll go ahead and move on then to the fund report um the uh balance and education fund the end of May 2023 was 3 million to eleven seven thirty six ninety two and then balance and operations was 326 60.47 if you want to head to the very last page which is numbered number five total on all funds 7 million to seventy eight four fifty eight thirteen then next in your package you're going to see the depository statement balance with fun to bank um you can see that we are in Balance our banks to fund did anyone have any questions about that okay then we've got the fund transfer report again um you know most of your big ticket items here are just going to be the transfers that I need to do from One bank to the next and then of course you've got education to Ops we had unreimbursed textbook transfer that we were able to make for this last month and then of course school lunch [Music] second we've got expenditures her bond 20 uh 21 and bond 2022 balance forward um through uh April 30th 2023 our uh total expenditures was 18 million 806 690 28 and then we've got a list of expenditures for May of 2023 so our total to the end of May 2023 expenditures at a bond 2021 is 20 million 866 242.66 and then Bond 2022 we've got total expenditures listed there at the top through April um of 2023 was 1 million seven thirty one three Twenty Eight oh nine we've got three um uh expenditures listed there for total expenditures the end of May 2023 of 2 million 843 600.79 and that's all I have I'd like to submit for approval pending any questions okay like make a motion for me okay I have a motion and a second to approve the consent agenda in the questions or discussion discussion okay you're not all in favor all right all opposed motion passes next is reports and we have an assistant superintendent yeah so just briefly obviously misses the McPherson isn't here but I wanted to just point out that she did provide you an update on three items in your in your board packet first being the Chattanooga Institute for team teachers once again went down there and experience what it's like to work in a Fab Lab and they're going to continue that work back here in the classrooms at the middle school and obviously getting our high school Fab Lab off and running so it was a really great experience there'll be some additional training with the Consultants here uh she provided an update about um our assessments so the big takeaway there is we are shifting away from nwva to utilize the i-Ready assessment we feel like it's going to better prepare or provide us better data and better prepares for the Assessments in Indiana and then the final item is we're restructuring our Title One program and so um years past we've served only K to two and just with the literacy initiative and I read into some of the challenges of TZ we're gonna and just you know since the reading foundations continue on third grade we're gonna uh have a staff member there part-time so we're going to offer some title services and third grade at TV as well just to kind of help fill the gaps for some of our readers that are still learning how to read and hopefully that will again help look those readers up and take them to where they they need to be so those were three items that she had for her assistant superintendents report and then I just have a couple very brief brief ones obviously the biggest is working to fill any open positions that we have we don't have a ton of vacancies at the moment but you know as the summer goes on you always lose someone unexpectedly and have to fill the spot so working with the principals to fill out any remaining vacancies that we have and obviously that extends Beyond just teaching positions that's that's all of the classified positions too and then we'll be opening online registration on July 10th for families to register for uh the 23-24 school year so just a couple of items that we have there okay great thanks next item on the agenda is old business we have no old business so that brings us to new business first is an approval request for a copier lease with Braden Business Services yeah so uh we're just finishing up uh at least with uh with Rika on all of our copiers throughout the district and they're at the end of life and it's time to time to replace those or we spend a lot of time meeting with uh interested um bidders and he has brought forth Braden Business Systems and Kyocera copiers they were the least expensive and also offered quality machines and so we'd like to move forward with a new four-year it's four years five year lease with Braden with the option for a one dollar buyout at the end and they we are told that they actually have equipment in hand whereas some of the other bidders did not and so we would be my recommendation with the board of brief disagreement okay sounds good thank you for your work yeah thank you very much I know that's a very tedious process to dig through these types of contracts so okay can I get a motion okay I have a motion a second all in favor aye all opposed motion to pass is to declare items of no value yep so we just have some miscellaneous uh items throughout the district um they're under the they're under the threshold um but we'd like to declare them at no value and we'd like to work on accepting some sealed sealed bids or to sell some of the equipment basically things that come to mind we have some old lays and table saws and just miscellaneous tools from our wood shop that are no longer no longer needed and we want to suppose of those appropriately and then we have just some miscellaneous Furniture as well and so I just wanted to bring that bring that forward and so that we can either accept uh sealed beds we can donate it um uh certainly we've gotten rid of some because it's been damaged and redisposed of it so so if you do like a sealed bid on some stuff like this how do you do you have to advertise that how do you how do you advertise it yeah I would uh we would if we're going to accept sealed beds we're going to take your time to advertise in the paper put a put a list on our website right so anyone interested in that equipment um you know something interesting I don't expect that it'll bring a lot of money but if somebody can get use of it I would think traditionally the school is moving it on it's been used yeah right but you just want to make sure everyone has an opportunity absolutely okay can I get a motion to declare these items no value okay I have a motion this second all in favor all opposed motion passes next on the agenda is an approval request to approve some donations first being Jack Dalton the Greencastle High School Champions together in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars and the second being snap mobile mobile and the uh or to the Greencastle High School track in the amount of 3100 36.40 mobile I went back and I was like yeah I'm just glad you didn't say three million I know well forty cents you were really expecting me to mess up the mobile [Laughter] thank you for the donations yes okay all in favor okay I'll opposed motion pass next on the agenda is an approval request for meal prices for the 2023-2024 square yep so we've worked uh with Chartwells and um worked using the analysis that the state provides and um we're recommending essentially a 10 cent increase in the cost of meals so Elementary price uh next year would be 310 versus three that it was this year for elementary students wait yes and uh it was 310 this year for secondary students and the recommendation is 320. for secondary students next year and so it would be my recommendation that board approve those updated meal prices considering the price of nearly 10 seconds yeah yeah and there was also pricing sheets submitted for your approval as well so we would be approving those things I make the motion we accept the increases in the lunch and I'll second we have a motion any second all in favor when opposed proposed passes last thing on the agenda is a a public to publicize or to uh read the return to yeah would that provide an update on the return in-person instruction plan and allow public comment um obviously there are no changes being proposed that we've been in person that's you know we're going to continue we just have to do that to meet the Federal guidelines and this will be the final time to have to do that foreign okay last item is other business we have any other business we've got the tour for high school today before the meeting and it's coming along very nicely um you're welcome looks better every time we go okay final thing on the agenda is adjournment can I get a motion call second I have a motion in a second all in favor aye all opposed thank you all for everyone thank you uh foreign

I'm just not and maybe it's just me today we say yes you know let's continue um thank you so exciting continue on with your goals in your presentation and then maybe recycle that happens too that people would digest the Sheep maybe you can also come up with this kind of a list of what three point workshops we've obviously going forward another thing we're going to accomplish that at all tonight um go ahead and so go to exact development and these two 2.1 develop a comprehensive played at priority side prioritizens professional learning sessions for school leaders to enhance their skills and performance and so I'm outside construction system is important it's difficulties professional development to address the learning needs of all staff and ensure that it pays allocated foreign there is a need for us to revisit the availability of staff to meet together and it's going to require us to get really creative and I'm going to ask again just to speak to unpacked 2.1 and 2.25 these goals for gold area two staff development center around the systems and construction so what we wanted to do in terms of looking at the data throughout the course of the Year both from the lens of disciplinary academic attendance I wrote a part about that structure so that we could have more frequent needles and in terms of principles assistant principles curriculum administrators for Department of leaders that we're all on the same page on providing that sort of a problem prior testing time so that we can meet we know these goals and looking at our system as we focus on data um but also we're looking to provide their assets are going within an organizational personalize our goals to do that we've got to look at the current Gap we're seeing what we are and where we need to go so I look at this in multiple ways prioritizing professional learning for everyone to learn more about local superintendo level cabinet level of principle all administrators because if we're all informed about what's going on at one Council uh principal pocs staff after school on Tuesdays their apartment after a structure which will require some Congress hubs to some additional subs and support during the course of the school day to the pool of teachers to our professional learning communities with friends Awards and with the teachers on Tuesday after school time or at a collaborative needles to have our PBIS meetings to have our school Improvement Plan reviews to have our professional learning about our core K3 so we're going to be luster or not you need support through the five in the implementation for that program but this is going to be not going to process rather than inquiry but also involved in this is our instructional allowance to explain that overall professional learning system which is in the world going to process everybody in this room and all the Departments within the district so it's going to be elected in terms of popular Subs number one and also providing or creating that space to meet people during the school day and outside the school day oh wonderful things in terms of the structures that most of the items that you've seen listening [Music] areas have an impact so everything you see listening teaching learning has some impact on us [Music] or something um so in all of the areas that you see listed um almost all of the areas that you see with schedules from the superintendents um here have an impact on staff development so if you go back into learning and you see each of those items that are listed there they all have a personal learning component here and whether you be able to find a few more professional learning each of those so it's really critical that we're pretty describe her that doesn't overwhelm teachers are trying to learn new things but we're able to roll that out in a way that makes sense allows them to process the information and then influencers for the programming as we go about you see the art core program which referred to that that's that's going to be about in terms of Staff they all have just understand the conceptual knowledge behind it but also the implementation of it um there and that devotes to each of the goal areas you'll see a heavy impact on professional learning so it's really good it's just creates a structure in which the markets are not including against building any consensus as well thank you um do you plan to be here uh what these sessions are going to be or is it Fitness yes there is considerable questions in case of what that looks like it sounds like yes that's so important for the last week we've got about the past Narrows Department in the critical areas that are going to really take the most time and how being more on a schedule around that so that everything is not continued against one or the other thing a piece of that thing to enrollment Grace forms automatic program next year I was continuing in that room that's getting paid free so a lot of their professionals are in 5th grade four five GP 2019 and professional work so we're well enough the literacy piece so that could be in very large is there [Music] so we all do work together to make sure that we're not overwhelming teachers but it will be thoughtful approach to each other any other questions after reading the survey that was taken this year there seemed to be uh teachers faculty didn't seem to be expressed that they've had enough professional learning sessions and I was just wondering if something gets published so they know this is what's happening and to address their concerns because I was kind of surprised if you've always seemed to be uh teachers can you know professionals that experience every year and that's what I was dancing even if it's sales piano yes you just leave the team and I we did look at this feedback if I could be concerned about the feedback it's not a lack of planning and habit of feeding counter out for any type of school year you might have had been being around our team that we never heard of a day right now but I think some of the things that we've gotten away from that we've talked about is just as recent news last week as you know it's there's something to be said about having some kind of a district office or the CRC office going in and leading the professional development and but also making sure there's opportunities for some of our lead teachers teachers and giving a close-up as soon as they can give them their peers I'm also the professional development and so I think it's important for the district for us to be more intentional about putting their peers in front of them and only this year again from people the experts Act without some things that you got into it so we just talked about this last week and finding ways to do that um with this opportunities I think it would put a bit better received by our staff but that's only one one strategy but I think we need to be constant about things like that because I think what's happening exactly is this kind of a top-down to peuge results and I appreciate that rehabilities to be a little bit more impossible Chris I was just going to say a lot of the learning stuff from our instructional allowance people there's a middle school where 678 a basis in particular the three middle schools worked across the various schools to look at map categories in Pacifica and I think organically that came out that they wanted to have an opportunity to watch other teachers to look at practice another classroom I think the only way to to Really increase your own advocacy in terms of practice in the classroom is to see Masters teachers teaching um it's one thing to hear about it it's one thing about presenters to say what great natural starts with it is and part of our instructional rounds this year but also will be a strategic Focus next year is getting into classrooms but we see such outstanding practice that it would be neglishment on a part not so you can have that category perform the rest of our school district whether you're doing such wonderful things we all need to learn from them there's classrooms we go and I just take works I can do it for hours because we also need to talk as students at that level so really high library and show foreign with our school psychologists partnering with to make sure we are PBIS teams to really um to support everyone in the school district and it's not necessarily that everybody wants to do a great job my class feel something we don't have any breakfast bar not had certain experiences I mean that we need to develop and we need to block improve upon our borders to really you know actualize our our abilities thank you so let's go three Talent acquisition recruit employers that work to be invested towards their educational needs to our students so we have three goals for next year continue to advance along with improve it and build on the success that we had this year at 3.2 we did an enhanced communication education by employee benefits to informed staff about the added value of work with EDS the 3.3 establishing committee to identify best practices and develop Partnerships with new teacher programs to attract and retain a more diversity support thank you can talk about 3.1 to start with maybe be able to release questions [Music] um so we're going to focus on a couple of things and remember from last week we talked a lot about the recruiting and routine and talent and that continues to be a great focus of the group and so each of these little areas slightly different place the first one with regard to marketing recruitment one of the challenges we continue to face is the depth of us now well both among certified and non-certified staff so we continue to look at places where we're going to Market and to be more aggressive and how we attract um can't be sent to the district we're looking also an incentives so we talked about a little bit of current Educators this year but we're looking at Alternatives and incentives and this leads a little bit into the retention we've done a couple of things this year that we'd like to leverage for next year as well for example um our town so our town is a program where our existing teachers can go through a program to get across the University of education and we have provided a way for them to enter the program and we've made a modest amount of the tuition for them and those teachers come out according to the commitment to us so there's two years remaining in the district and they helped with know the shortage area so we're going to continue to look at opportunities to continue to build on those um there's sort of small Financial costs to us about very large rewards in shortage areas so partnering with different departments do that that's one big area a second big area in terms of how we recognize and recruit folks is going to be the how we roll out the structure of the career academics so we're about to enter into some negotiations with the SAA about the structure and with NAA about the structure for teachers and those contemplate kind of a breadth of responsibility of training but also recognizing some criteria or some certifications of specialty areas now again we want to recognize teachers who pass something that's a little bit unique in terms of the academies and their children's learning study that will allow us to retain and reward and retain those members of our faculty so those are two big areas the last primary area is going to be looking continuing our March through this inquiry into the DVI and we use our Workforce continuing to reflect the democratives of our students one of the places you have to remember that we talked a little bit about that there's a role for coming years boys so look at where candidates of color have fallen out of our iron pipeline so the third area of initiative for us is going to be to try to gather data as best we can and where we're bringing in candidates and then where is it in the screening in the interviewing the selection we're in the process our candidates and so one of the recommendations for rules will be to put together a study group that can look a little bit more in more detail about the New York candidates follow-up and then look at things like how can we make our selection process more continuous across all of our buildings you'll remember that our hiring results decentralized so building administrators here at the waiver more on how to hire interior buildings and we think that there's some really great practices in some buildings that we could replicate with other buildings and we have a little bit better result in terms of equity and higher so those are kind of the main initiatives that we're going to have for this year um thank you so Kim quick question so I noticed three entire English from last week seemed to be around the same time again every year right yeah we haven't seen this year more people leaving the district for the jobs or any more than on average no it feels anecdotally so but when we looked at the numbers it really isn't extremely so um you know we're only mid on that end of June we'll get another kind of flood of resignation into retirements in the coming months so I'll be able to look at that a little bit better what sometimes you always hear me remain on the Tyler parade but one of the great things about Tyler is a direct retention report so that we can see um who's how many people are saying how they were going the retirees we saw were really big burst redgraph so a lot of people they think you were close went right over it was not going to retire um what we are seeing though in our exit survey which we started running this year is people are a lot of people are living in a professional adaptation they're not necessarily leading us to those someone else to teach okay not some of the data that we solved we need to prevents in survey all right how much uh the hiring that we're doing is replacing um open spots that we have and how much of that is foreign levels really it was replacing the last 10 sections of the elementary school again this year um but it's really the most like the higher ones in the high school they were not sure it is okay right so well I actually keep a document our military started causing not so much because I'm not part of reasons so I have a really loads of Google spreadsheet um more or less it looks like um I would say some buildings Elementary were done are in real good shape um the high school has quite a bit of hiring to do this year so we're still kind of making our way through Specialists they're working hard but again we're getting people we're having trouble bringing people in because of the shortage area um non-certified borrowers and we still have it here foreign but I would say we've probably about foreign [Music] coaches that were brought up and I've had spoken with Michelle from Britain about getting a model I guess they have an actual small chart of how they support a student I'm assuming that it's different than the current we have and I'm wondering how you know do we have the same kind of numbers I know that things would have shipped can we get that you know how many people will require it to like that touch as a student in this new program yes that's probably a very messing our question more than a compression of the general paintings again um but I will say this that um in talking about how we formulate the administrative structure that's the one that's kind of throwing in the front of our minds right now that's the one that we'll start talking now with um dsaa about that will look comparable to whether it's in Nashville with Academy leavers slash director principles whatever the name is and so we have some real structure work to do in negotiations because that's a mandatory subject they're bargaining for us about the titles the Penny Lane the number of days of the year reporting responsibilities um and how they're higher the selection process will be once we settle that we'll have the overarching structure and then we'll layer um teaching and changes that may not to happen for Teacher assignments and again how it impacts the bargaining unit but I think with those you'll see that it probably is fairly consistent from place to place so when you need to have your core teachers you need to have your coaches whichever you're supposed to say whichever PPS stuff so it probably was pretty comparable I think the big thing that I heard was class size or cluster size um there's considerably smaller than ever here hello just haven't spoken again it just seemed to have a lot of teams that supported one student at many different levels there was a lot of it seemed like a lot of touching that student so it just seemed like I don't know because I had asked that question I didn't handle it she goes we have a lot of gaps that we need to fill in so I wanted to see what we currently have as far as what we usually have in our setup assistant to you know support our students and then this new model they've definitely does change so I just wanted to get an idea for obviously we're talking about budget and you know coming down the line you know that we've committed obviously to the Career Academy but what does that really look like when we're looking at the numbers and we're looking at positions you know on a similar situation to the current obviously this is going to be a big lift so just wondering if we can get just start to get an idea of what it looks like obviously it's going to be develop and take its own life right High School yeah thank you the questions okay at least that I wonder if there's a way to have a conversation with City officials to see people incentivize teachers who are not currently part of our community and can come to another Community um I know that this has been the stuff most important before but the idea that if anyone support you don't need that some of the house like that comes out of that account you know an asset that could help us resolve some of these sad issues and two not realizing like hey there are because of our expenses of Liberty district there are lots of things like um student local refinancing way through Tesla or consumable we welcome our teachers at one time the presidential mortgage rates but I agree I think California uses teacher housing and okay I will call what you just basically wondering and if it's a child to the questions that you ask um thank you more about what that means for Danbury so we'd be happy to put together a crosswalk and where we are now is the national model is a real life being together because we need some kind of a discussion production goal area four School final promote a safe and support learning environment that after the social emotional growth and the Civic responsibilities for all students families and staff so we had four will also secure this required implementation of water conduct and parental multiplication system this is followed up to this country we've had previously the school year Implement trainings training and systems for PBIS across all schools pre-kb to keep an understanding and establish structural material supports this would be a goal of year one or three 4.3 which makes them Implement aperture SEO speed and data assessment to identified sports that they need to enhance their regulus for learning strategies to create awareness of the importance of attendance and address contact using behind schools and last but not least operations system operating system operating system management and this is a follow-up to some of the priorities we have to outline that in communities before that makes you look at optimization about the previously in Phoenix that signed up on it uh we will update that and use parent squares to do something similar your software Progressive name and please sit down and Report the direction of my candidate for next year which kind of requires more training staff and Avatar the PBIS Chris Anna Kelly had provided any updates before the last meeting is going to be really important for us vacation students at all schools for many people are tier four and kind of a positive model versus background on that absolutely this is some something that is being sponsored by the State Department of Education and what it does is Advance teachers the ability to rate and Screen all students in their classroom and what it's looking for is strengths or assets that students have as far as coping and Readiness for Learning and then identify any areas that students are lacking those skills that need to be accepted when they talk so this is not a means of identifying any negative or bad behavior it's really looking at proactive approach of what skills are lacking maybe a student is not being able to work successfully in a group so what do we need to do and explicitly to teach that child so that they can they can achieve that problem with success so every teacher will do a quick rating or streaming of um it depends on the grade level but anywhere between about 10 and 14 questions on the student and then if there are identified areas of need there is a more extensive rating scale that can be considered by a team of teachers um and really the rational for doing this is what we can identify specific areas of support that we can then explicitly teach students so that they make positive games and growth which ultimately would have sex success um and so children will be rated following during spring so we'll also it'll be the first time we'll actually have a measurement tool to see growth across those SEO scale which is what we really need and we'll also be using this in conjunction with our PBIS our your support system-wide structures in schools for successful learning for students constantly understand how to go about doing school and we'll also be partnering this with our absenteeism data to see if the student is lacking is that one of the reasons that maybe they're avoiding around how we struck those skills so they're all kind of working at the opportunity to ultimately support students like attending school feeling seeking secure at school and wanting to work and stuff okay we were talking a few months back about some sort of reward system who is her classes and put in Texas is there anything um or something like that yes so Chris you guys speak to this talk about about U.S or comments in the next 50 years so yes that would be something that would be on the docker director of PBIS or incentivizing incoming the school would be the alternative see behaving on the systems instructions schools and their overall attendance on the floorboarding like foreign [Music] students and then remember if there are to another sometimes that's based on future expectations sometimes that states about the confidence um so if there is a relationship with that child that teacher would be most appropriate to do so it's a teacher that you know has a student um maybe for a lot of their Flex classes on a regular basis or something like that um but we will pick one of the four content Area Teachers to not confirmative any teacher most of our Middle School and High School teachers have 120 students on Facebook um so it may be that all you know if we had blocked one and say every teacher that has a child in Block one is when they completed and then as there's these that rises to the top we can then walk across a wider variety shut up yourself successful I will ask if I can give a full benefits okay thank you the data will be able to share itself thank you yes I know that um last year so it's expensive theater where it is thanks and I'm thinking since I'm a grandma some of these young somebody young kids starting in elementary school and I want to call a person of America and I don't know how you work this into what's pursue their behavior change a grandpa and say okay he's gonna work with you for a couple of weeks to make it to change her attitude and I think if I could start in their elementary school because one what I'm saying by the time you get to the high school we don't have people knew mentoring appetizers some of them and uh yeah but you know you know and I know when we came up there was a different version of how you respect people so uh you know it's just something I've been thinking about a long time I don't know if something more every minute you you have to help other people come in but then how will you go to these people to sign it up so first thing Johnny has to be better and [Music] behaving and things like that one of the strategies we currently use as mentors with dsadc um we also identify mentors at the school there are you know check-in checkout systems that are used regularly so there's not trust for adult on those reward systems for students in a trusted adults who are always a NATO anymore um so I I idea of something we're currently doing but certainly could expand upon them um but it the the notion of this is really to be very proactive so that we can put some skills plates before we get to the point that we're really trying to kind of replicate a negative situation I'll take 100 minutes [Laughter] we we definitely can come up with some type of celebration of Secrets what purpose and perhaps Awards superintendent Awards of the principal Awards and it would be appropriate that we saw celebrating season and finding our own recycle celebrate students who are I only want things that are important for the war with the subway and you know how we work with the board meetings I don't know but I I think all of our schools our teachers go find me the book collaboration Department of families communities and public and private sectors in schools and collectively create opportunities for you to engage every student learning and success sold out 45 I'm sorry for proposed goals for next year to continue to leverage Community Partnerships to support student achievement and before a collective ad initiative 5.2 we established a robust adult education program our seminars classes open to the public I.E ESL High School the department of completion citizenship an array of programs requested by the community so we'll talk about adult day we're also talk about continuation issues 5.3 is Dan Family University program to improve Saturday and explore and learn new promise and Champion programs to celebrate families who attend 5.4 of the last one rollout rate level Community great love through training sessions and school-based open houses to increase student academic achievements and so 5.1 I know briefly Julie Bridget through different agencies for part of the collective hack meetings yeah and most recently Michelle was part of the one one or two meetings but and you can just kind of get a brief very brief overview about Collective impact kind of intentionality behind it you know the collective impact and some things we would focus on and I think it's also important that important to say that it's it's not our Collective impact however we do play a role in kind of getting it off to grab one that's off the ground and trading rules are off it's yourself so thank you um so the collective impact was in response to a request for a proposal that the never made the foundation put out about almost two years ago now and so we put in a Community Driven all moving in One Direction as a city around certain goals to impact students in their families and so through the meetings that we've had so far we have come up with three main goals or pillars as we call them or goal posts is to reduce absenteeism increase mental health and support really really childhood education and that was from surveys that we have had done over the last few years in putting this grant in and through our different other surveys that we've done reducing expertiseism is something that the district will benefit from but families will benefit from that too because there's root causes the absenteeism that we know that food housing just security for students impacts their ability to be at school so it's not just a school issue but it's a community issue and so where we are today right now and the selective impact is we have a community group we now have the start of three to three workers and we have just put up an ad with our backbone agencies United Way for its first executive director and so that's where we are coming so far thank you 5.2 is I'm sorry I don't know I just don't I just want to comment on the recent survey um foreign so our program is currently under subscribed in which is working very hard to learn animal about our programs and into the city programs that are being offered foreign [Applause] and then eventually get to those High School preparation Greg is also partnered with Andrew a program to learn yourself and how many students research [Music] as of right now I think we were 50 people that are about ready for graduate tomorrow and also you know for two disciples the parents coming in looking at ways that we can engage their parents and the future and learning it in controls but one of the other pieces that we're supposed to program many years ago it was theater Northwest program we went through a lot of development programs like Spanish for teachers um buildup classes so Rick is really making a commitment to learning that program and he's very excited about it we're very excited about what he's running into the Department of Community as well as you have all of the support thank you so given the board's experience with the family program at the University a great little breakfast extension or a connection to our literacy of University mindset and finding a better way to connect that to the neighbor's office and that's about 5.4 are there any questions about you know the collaboration of these guideline projects okay it's resource allocation established a transparent coordinary and efficient budget process that shows equitable distribution of resources allocated to support and sustain their distribution initial 6.1 code construct the Standalone budget the Danbury Career Academy 6.2 identify specific Workforce developing funds and particularly the city that can be utilized to fund their verification career testing program 6.3 develop a multi-year financial Outlook to improve capacity for long-term planning and 6.4 conduct efficiency studies of people's transportation and shared services to identify cost savings so those are the four areas that we prioritize for next year the idea of code construction a standalone budget some of the board members Might Recall at our council meeting is able to request to have ongoing discussions uh with the board around our question next year specifically to um The Academy of Danbury work and so our idea was of course any budget is also wanted to throughout High School we want to make sure that we've itemized specifically the work of the high school and do that with the city of Danbury and any other institutions Museum table to make sure there's clear understanding of what the needs are uh obviously for these two questions together to Simply requests to be fully understood the Workforce Development funds okay so there are grants out there to help support initiatives that are a Workforce needs around a regionally but also around the state of Connecticut and so the Hopeless is that given the the mayor's office focused with increasing their capacity and Grant Office so that we can work with them for some grants that can also support our students but at the same time but we really support the need of the city for our in our region I think the multi-year financial outlooked capacity of the hotel claim is somewhat self-explanatory that I think at the minimum we need to put together a three-year Financial outlook for the boarding for the city of Danbury and last but not least conduct on proficiency studies certainly transportation is one of them I've been given that we are talking about adding the high school adding a middle school in addition to the challenges that we already have any possible that we can find so we think it's important we have some type of stuff that we've got to do to see if there's opportunity to facilities so I will pause and see if there are any questions before we started over to the next thing about it again um I guess the question is my question is um you wanna when you start the budget functions we must do our project it's strictly for the Career Academy I think it's important that we have a budget for the entire system but I think it needs to be itemized either way so everyone can clearly understand this is for specifically for the Academy to Denver you just make sure everyone understands that this is it's part of the entire budget specifically for the high school this is the cost associated with with evil so with the with the um Finance director and yourself so I and I'm trying to Envision this popcorn they can hear from everyone pictures it will just be a book parties and what you need to do your cabinets and it's not going to be emerged without regular budget so I think we're envisioning it would be heard however we would bring specific attention to if it's involved as an example but we will bring attention to the high school piece of the budget and say this specifically this page and so we have 100 in 60 million dollar budget this year and so 25 million hypothetically could be Danbury High School for both campuses and we would have that itemized in a way where when you go to page 37 in a book which means it page 37 and 45 that's itemized all the costs associated with the high school and the parts that were projecting and this year next year giraffe can be wrapped in the United States thank you anything else yes so given that feedback this evening um I will I can follow up with your Warfare regarding the goals themselves on how we want to move forward on the feedback from this and again we will table that now but I think just kind of giving the overview that was provided this evening I hope this helps us land on both to help people here versus depends on everything we have in November so I appreciate your engagement this evening okay so I I want to take this opportunity also take this opportunity while I have the full detention and obviously the character in this year as well high school and in the article they spoke to frankly your superintendents both prematurely about what was happening at overclock at at the high school and how that was potentially being depressed the reality is I just want to walk to the board a freaking timeline in January mid-January of 2023. I requested a meeting with the mayor to really speak about my concerns about really the safety of the building giving the projections for 24-25 live in the news that the building the new building will not build and so the meeting was I don't want to say productive it was certainly a good meeting in that City Hall certainly understood our concerns but you know we have typically 900 plus students in Captains here at any given time during the school day building that was essentially made for 3 000 or maybe 2800 is will be close to 3 800 by the time 24 25.
