thanks Hannah be sure to tell your sister that I called you her name okay darn it all right Maria is going to worry about any action that took place in closed session we are going to start out with the board deliberations um we are going to an admission case the student discipline has a later item okay just with those those are the only thing that we don't do from closing till later so do we want to wait on that and do it now let's wait on those okay okay um conference on litigation government code section 54954.5 subsection d g Chacon versus Apple Valley Unified School District on a motion by Raleigh seconded by RC the board voted unanimously to deny the claim of Gary Chacon and it's a vote of 5-0 conference on litigation government code section 54954 M Rutledge versus avosd on a motion by Bender seconded by Buchanan the board determined to direct the return of the claim to claimant without further action because it was presented too late under governance government code section 911.2 now we go to the deliberation you'll do that when yeah I think that comes later okay all right the adoption of the agenda the board May approve the agenda as is or add items or pull items for the consent agenda do I have a motion to approve the agenda all in favor aye attendance update Renee Castillo director of child welfare and attendance I'm so sad this presentation out um while you guys were back there so it might be shuffled this is you just have to get it fixed before Matt has to do his presentation right foreign so as our student uh speakers spoke about earlier September is National School attendance and our Focus after last school year coming off the pandemic has been to take a look at our attendance and how we would work to improve that across District the pandemic has caused the common hardships that a lot of our families face with economic hardships as well as health challenges and we didn't see as we were coming back to school that that building more fear around returning because of the health concerns which affected our attendance as well as the protocols that the Department of Health required us to follow if students were experienced experiencing symptoms and so we did realize that as we came back off the pandemic um and so I wanted to share a little bit of data with you um this is some data that we have regarding the first 1920 was prior to the pandemic where our average daily attendance was around 95 percent rate across the district then of course we didn't have attendance during the pandemic because we were not in school but when we did come back in 2122 we did have a lot of restrictions and we had a lot of concerns around health and you'll see that we dropped to about 85 percent attendance rate our first year back to in-person instruction last school year you'll see that we are on a incline to get closer back to what we were pre-pandemic we're around High 80 per 89 to low 90s and then this school year we're also tracking our attendance as of the first month and I'm happy to say that we're around 94 at this point we've also included um our Virtual Academy attendance now so we'll be monitoring that as well for our students oh so some of the things that we've learned even though we do have our daily average attendance in our our graphs um we've been working very closely as Maria has said with safe and civil schools and they've brought some things to our attention on how we can better address our attendance and some things to be aware of as we looked at how we were addressing it in the past one is that our average daily attendance which was 95 sounds really good however when we look at that percentage we're still leaving out five percent of our students and if you're looking at about 14 000 students across the district there's still 700 students that are chronically absent that's concerning that's a lot of students um it's also looking at an average so it's not looking at some of those areas that may be lower um and so that's one thing that we want to take a look at also when we're looking at um doing our letters to our parents we're looking at a lot of truancy data and that truancy is defined as absences without permission and when you look at those types of absences you're um are looking at maybe excuses or parents calling in using um things that aren't acknowledged by the Ed code as being an excused absence also it's gets marked that way when we don't have the opportunity to speak to a parent so if we have tried to reach out to parents and we don't receive any communication back it remains unexcused the issue with that is we're missing a lot of important factors some of those parents or families that we might not be able to get a hold of they could be experiencing homelessness um their students could be experiencing behavioral challenges they could be experiencing some kind of illnesses um I think my whole list here um and so there's a lot of students that we're trying that were leaving out by just looking at our data with those two focuses um so what we're trying to do now is we're looking at our current practices because the what we do now is more reactionary we wait we look at our attendance data and then we respond to that and a lot of times it is um more punitive and reactionary and not so effective and so we realize through our process that um in the end especially for bringing families to sarb that punishment through contracts through warnings um that type of stuff has not been effective at helping us to improve attendance so with our Focus through safe and civil which aligns very well with California works and the California initiative and achievement um they both all three align very well with each other and we've learned um through a lot of our professional development that we've had with them that we need to change our approach and so what we've learned by that is that we need to be more preventative and more proactive in how we're going to address our attendance issues with our students um and by doing that we want to make sure that we are putting on an educational Campaign which you may have seen on our avusd social media as well as through the help of our our principals and administration at the school site we're working on educating our parents our community our and our students about the importance of attending school regularly and the impacts it could have on them if they don't um another thing that we're trying to do is focus on some general and some tailored strategies and by that I mean creating a culture in our schools that is welcoming um and is conducive to good attendance and we are taking that and that's something that we're doing across the district and our our principals are doing an amazing job with that already and then looking at more tailored strategies where they're making it more site-specific they're looking at what are the causes at their particular School site since they could vary across the district um and what is what what are the barriers that are keeping students from attending regularly and then putting um some supports in the place for those students another area we would like to focus on is a trend analysis where we're really taking a deeper dive into our data we're not so much looking at Daily averages or truancy data but we're using our student Information Systems to pull up data around different demographic areas um our students of color are our homeless population our special education students we're even going as far as we could even look at maps of the area of our boundaries as even our bus eligibility and to see if all of those factors are playing into students inability to attend school and then each School site can go ahead and determine what their school is experiencing and some schools have been already putting some some work in place of creating teams that are going to be doing that intensive data dive to determine what's going on at their school sites and then coming up with ways to approach that and remove those barriers for those families as we do with our academics and our behaviors we have our multi-tiered system of support where those General and tailored strategies would basically be a part of our tier one that's what all of our students would be getting um and part of that positive and proactive approach is really celebrating the successes at school is creating classroom and school-wide incentives really encouraging classrooms and students to be coming to school and celebrating and welcoming um when they're coming back after being sick or if they if they're coming back late or if they come to school late or leaving early just changing that conversation with them and letting them know you know oh we're so glad you made it today rather than why are you late you know just having that can just change a kid's life in a day um and so those are some of the strategies that our schools are putting into place for those students that need a little bit more we'll be looking at tier two strategies it's a little bit more targeted intervention that would be probably reaching out if you look at our pyramid that we have to about 10 to 15 percent of our students where those tier one strategies those things that we're doing for everybody are still um not working as well for those students and they might need something else so the school sites will come up with individualized and then the tier three which is our most intensive which is about one to three percent of our students that's where we're going to be looking at a function-based approach to School attendance and what is it that's keeping the student from attending um and what are they getting from not coming to school because sometimes those reinforcers that students are getting to stay home are way more powerful than anything that we could do at school so that's really where we're going to be working with across the board in all of these areas with our families as a partnership and to work collaborate to make sure that we have really open communication to let them know that we're here to help them we're not here to point our finger at them or to make them feel bad we're here to work together with them and get their students to school so that they could have those opportunities to learn and to achieve and to get their social emotional and needs met which they've really needed after the pandemic um so those are some of the things that we're working on this is very long I'm not going to read through this but I've asked some of the principles to share with us some of the things that they've already got in place so when you have time today just read through some of the things that they're already doing because they're already doing amazing stuff even just for the start of the beginning of this school year something little that I don't know which school it was that just really stuck out to me is that instead of a tardy slip they have a welcome slip it's little things like that that are going to make kids know that they're cared for they're loved and that they're welcome at school so if you have time please take some time to read over that and then some of the pictures that I've posted up there are part of our social media posts that Zoe's been doing to promote attendance um you also have one of these um we've noticed in having conversations with parents um especially at my office sometimes they'll be calling if they got an attendance letter or something they don't realize how quickly that these um that their attendance is their absences add up um and so this is a whiteboard magnet that the schools were giving out so that parents can just track when their students are absent that way they realize because that chronic absenteeism is defined as 10 of missing 10 of the school year at any point in the school year for any reason and so while we understand that there's going to be excused reasons it's still um not being in class not having instruction not having those connections with peers so we just want families to be aware of of their absences throughout the year and thought this visual might be really helpful for them so this was something else that we decided to do and I'll just mention quickly one um clearly this changed approach is having an impact we saw the data already in month one and we're so thrilled to see that and two I took her notes away and she still did this so much foreign we'll pause here for questions excuse me what perfect thank you we were talking about your presentation all right Matt get him it worked I like to see that yeah let's keep it going uh thank you Mr Bender um I'm here tonight to present a look back at last school Year's financials the unaudited actuals when the uh business staff mainly Cindy and her team in the business office have the chance to close the books and look at our actual Financial activity for the previous year if we remember the 22-23 budget cycle let's start it a long time ago back in January of 22 when the governor uh comes forward with his initial budget proposal a lot of questions at that time about economic recovery or recession what's happening May revise comes out May of 2022 again that's the governor's update based on current economic conditions across the state and the nation the cola calculation and any adjustments to the revenue assumptions at the state levels based on tax receipts both personal income tax property tax and corporate taxes are the big three and then of course what the legislature has been doing for several years now is they they pass a budget on time because they don't get paid if they don't pass it on time so they did have an on-time budget in June which of course affects us because they typically do approve the budget after we do and sometimes we have to go back and make slight adjustments as we moved through the school year just a reminder to the board we have several fiscal year reporting we have the first interim in October second interim as of January our estimated actuals occurred in May of 23 as we were getting ready to end the year and of course the estimated actuals for last year kind of set the starting point for this year's adopted budget which we adopted back in June and then I'm before you tonight with the unathered axles that's of course the closing the books they are preliminary numbers until audited and of course it updates our 2324 beginning balance and then of course we update any assumptions as appropriate so looking back last year at our Revenue here's just a quick pie chart of our Revenue about 264 million dollars across all sources in our fund 01 which is our general operating fund you'll see the Lion's Share of our Revenue comes in our local control formula our allocation from the state of California it comes to us unrestricted of course there's our grade span allotments our grade span adjustments for the TK through three class size reduction a great span adjustment with our high school for CTE programs there's a transportation add-on which for this year's the first year in gosh a few decades that that's actually got a cost of living adjustment for our transportation add-on um so you'll see also we get some federal some other state and some local Revenue but about 264 million dollars flowed into the district last year and we spent about 246 and a half you'll see the Lion's Share of our expenses are the big three certificated salaries classified salaries and employee benefits our books are our books and supplies typically that's a very typical five to six percent of our expenditures but what kind of was inflated last year was our services and capital outlay and that's due to a lot of the one-time uh coveted money that flowed in over the past several years the governor is different one-time block grants that we got our Capital outlay particularly related to our HVAC replacement project it did inflate our typical expenditures because we are using some of those uh Esser Monies to pay for uh increased heating ventilation in our classrooms so that's a little different than past Trends but that's a quick pie chart of our expenditures last year now here's some details some numbers uh just bring your attention of course this is only our fund01 operating fund we have an unrestricted side which is the lcff side for the most part and then we have a restricted side uh federal revenue state revenue a lot of that one-time money is on the restricted side of our budget and then the combined it just puts those two together you'll see on the unrestricted side uh with 173 million in Revenue we did have 140 in expenditures a transfer out and then contribution that contribution is from the unrestricted side of the budget to the restricted side of the budget to support restricted programs mainly special education services and our routine restricted maintenance account but you'll see on the unrestricted side we ended with a 499 250 Surplus on 173 million dollars of Revenue that's pretty balanced on the unrestricted side so you'll see our beginning fund balance and our ending fund balance you'll see that reflected there on the bottom of the page now if we go back to estimated actuals really quickly our estimated ending fund balance back in May was about 24 million dollars so you see close to a four million dollar variance there between May and actual closing of the books well the majority of that about three million dollars were due to some expenditures that were budgeted last year items that were ordered last year were supposed to have been received last year but were not so those expenditures did not occur last year so that accounts for about 3 million of that variance between May and June and it was pretty much textbooks and school buses um that didn't get here on time so those expenses will move into the current budget year uh 2324.

so our overall enrollments summary the projection at 4225 we're down 12 students as a district I want to remind you that these projections kind of came from a couple of places a few years ago slammed back in 2022 uh they developed these you'll see in the top of the slide they're high projections they had low projections medium and high projections and if you remember last year we were outpacing the high projections uh and so in response to that NASDAQ adjusted their projections as well for this coming year so we have really two sets of projections the old slam ones that were really aggressive uh two years ago and then NASDAQ from last year and when you look at those projections we were we're close there in you see the NASDAQ projections to the far right where we're kind of spot on to where that was and that those projections uh continue to add students to the district over time eclipsing 5 000 about 10 years from now and I don't think if you drove around the district saw the housing saw the people moving in uh it would be hard to argue that so snapshot of the enrollment opening of schools piece but each year at this time we affirm our strategic address objectives this is something we really worked hard entering last school year to revisit and revamp actually the last couple years we've done a lot of work around this in just in February this year we updated policy to reflect some of that work so our mission stays the same in partnership with families in the community we'll prepare all students to meet the challenges of an ever-changing Global Society but providing high quality educational opportunities that Inspire lifelong learning and service to others and so we revised our performance standards uh several years ago to um address really what the needs are is our world evolves these continue to be a lot of research on this over the summer these continue to be contemporary skills that'll be in high demand well into the future even as we continue through this technological Revolution and AI these are the things our kids need to know and be able to do obviously we focus a lot on complex thinking and social emotional learning so this is our theory of action on social emotional learning we had this theory of action before it was cool uh and I think you know um we are going to talk a little bit Marlene already mentioned pass but uh we're excited to move into a new space where we're actually assessing how our students are growing in this domain which is really tricky to do a lot of times people assess things that are easy to test that's why you know a lot of the old standardized testing was so poor it was easy to grade easy to test but those aren't the skills that are make people successful today these are the skills so how do we we start to work in those areas and we've certainly done that for the last few years and complex thinking and I think we're kind of we've kept caught up in terms of the assessment on the social emotional side but the practices have always been there you know and this year we spent a lot of time as Marlene Illustrated in her presentation about people working on how to embed the development of social emotional skills into the everyday work and so you know you think about what does that mean teaching students how to be effective collaborators before you just put them into a group is an example you know you'll hear people say you know kids these days they don't know how to X Y or Z okay then show them teach them how to do that and so that's what we try and do and develop in our students to support their social emotional skills which ultimately connects into their mental health and well-being and their ability to to be successful in school and I don't think there's an accident that you know the more that we've focused on these things the the you know it's tied to growth in our achievement so complex thinking uh as we talked a little bit about you know we want our students to be able to be complex reasoners and have strong inquiry problem solving skills explore ideas generate ideas be creative this is the work of the contemporary student and what does this look like you know in terms of what students are being asked to do in the classroom this reflects high quality instruction so when we do instructional rounds we do our learning walks these are the things that we're looking at what are what what's the work that students are being able to do we're now looking for compliance we're not looking for you know um just you know how how engaged kids are but are they doing these things you can be really engaged doing meaningless work but are you doing this work um so the dividends of that effort we've elevated ourselves to the eighth best overall smarter balanced performance in Connecticut for the K-12 districts we had the second best overall performance in durg B Madison was ahead of us they spend 3 900 per student more than we do I don't illustrate that to say other anything other than I think we we have tremendous value in our school system we have the fourth best Statewide Improvement in growth rate so our growth rate is the percentage of students who met their growth Target uh and we improved by 13 this year that was one of the goals that um we had as a school system for the year to improve math and uh reading um growth rates and those took a substantial jump I illustrate the fact that you know fourth best amongst the districts that had at least 100 students in each grade there were districts who outperformed us who literally had 27 kids that they were testing kids across sixth grade levels so you know looking at districts that could be close to considered our peer group with 600 and we have more than 1200 students we we did exceptionally well there we ranked 31st or 32nd um on the SAT performance uh 15th in Connecticut for the ngss assessment we've shown really strong growth in science and we have our highest ever rating on niche.com I know you've heard me say before that it's not you know psychometrically the the you know best measure of how great a school system is but a lot of people who are looking to move do check that and so you know we've done well there as well so what are we focusing on uh for 2023 for this is not like an ultra comprehensive list I mean Marlene talked about uh play and that was part of our message at convocation as well the purposeful play it all grades all levels adults it's meaningful there's growth that occurs there and a lot of those social emotional skills that are so valuable but we are continuing particularly at the high school level about engaging students that in classes that feature Active Learning and emphasize those you know like seven skills that you saw earlier around complex thinking we started to do a more intensive focus on that last year particularly in math and science and it's really exciting to see the transformation just from last year in the fall to the end of the year how the classroom looks different when you go in and the things that kids are doing are different than they used to be it's not so much sit and get but there's so much active dialogue about what they're doing active problem solving it's it's really powerful and I think we're going to continue to see tremendous growth there because it's such fun and engaging and challenging learning and then you know really as I mentioned before um I don't want to repeat it and make a pass of myself but the social emotional learning and growth thing is really a big deal Marlene will be beat like a pinata for like the next three months for having that mistake in the slide and so it'll all be in our pleasure so join us in that because she's uh a good egg and and takes it well but uh you know that that should not be for me that's only a fun piece but sure as heck not the takeaway I have from the work that she led this summer uh was insane the curriculum institute again is is something that's so powerful for our staff and I know you heard it before the the value that they the teachers say brings to their work that makes all this incredible stuff happen in throughout the school year that they're focused and they have that time to dedicate one of the things I talked about in convocation was ensuring that our teachers have time to step away from everything they're doing in deeply focus on creating powerful learning experiences which is hard to do on the fly if you're trying to do that the night before a lesson you it's not going to happen you get too much going on and so the fact that you know I don't know another District that takes the time for a week over the summer to pull people together and really focus on powerful learning experiences that you guys have seen it's it's really pretty special stuff so that really concludes our opening of schools report and I think just kind of gives an update on the board's goals that we've identified and kind of reaffirmed last year in terms of complex thinking and social emotional learning in the you know future direction of the the school system so with that um you know I'll take any thoughts feedback questions uh whatever you'd like okay yes sir yeah what's the criteria for the teacher of the year the parent educator of the year is that like uh who votes so there is a nomination process for that that um we solicit nominations for both of those recognitions uh early winter and people will submit a nomination our administrative team calls through the nominations and um we put candidates before a committee who includes uh usually past winners as well and so you know like Marlene and myself and some of the past winners of those Awards will sit on the teacher of the year and um Robin Ann and Marie Broadway Christina somebody will sit with the para Educators and interview those folks and holy cow are those difficult decisions to settle on one person because uh the the cast is always incredibly talented thank you [Music] so we uh before we get into the affirmation of the studio plan I just wanted to thank Dr Sone and his team and all the administrators teachers here tonight for a successful opening through the school year I know it's uh I was there a convocation it's always great to see the excitement in your new faces and everybody being excited to see those smiling faces show up on day one and from my understanding what relatively I don't say uh a cakewalk but I went relatively smoothly a lot of smiling faces so thank you thank you for your work into the summer as well and please let your colleagues know that we appreciate all the effort you put into and thank you guys good job well done so we we have um no old business but we have one new business sign which is essentially the affirmation the Strategic plan which we do have in our packets uh it was also attached in our agenda and our email I hope you have a motion in front of us yeah and talking to Carol it doesn't require a formal motion it's just you know this is where we go if there's an objection or something we could take it in policy auditing objections to what was just presented on the studio plan that we talked about since 2019.

and you'll see the restricted side uh same information revenues expenditures you see that contribution to the restricted side a positive 32 million so in the restricted our ending fund balance actually went up about 14 million and that's because we have a lot of balances of those one-time funds that come to us and those one-time funds that we have several years to spend them so those funds sit in our budget and our ending fund balance until spent and you see the combines on the right hands that merely combines the unrestricted and restricted sides of fund o1 are our general operating fund so on the unrestricted side here's our components you'll see that's what makes up our 27.9 million and the assigned committed those are funds that the committed funds in there the board has passed resolutions to commit funds to support a couple of programs specifically number one was the through the public agency Retirement Services pars several years ago we did a retirement incentive across our system and we had over 100 employees take advantage of that that's a five-year five-year payment plan we're a little over a million dollars we have to pay each year so we do commit funds in our ending fund balance to make those payments and then we also have a retiree Health and Welfare program that was recently negotiated into with our bargaining units so we commit additional funds and you'll see the reu there of 17.8 that's that's what's left it's not assigned it's not committed it's so it's designated as a reserve for economic uncertainties and you'll see the 3 three percent required there is 7.4 so we do have in our ending fund balance as we Look Backwards we had some additional funds there now looking forward into the 2324 I would like to remind the board as we adopted our budget for the current year we did adopt a budget with approximately eight million dollars of deficit spending in the current year plan and that's eight million dollars of unrestricted deficit spending and those expenditures I mentioned earlier that moved from last year into this next year will affect that deficit spending and we'll increase that amount of deficit spending so that 27.9 million dollars is actually projected to be approximately sixteen and a half million dollars at the end of the current budget year and again we still have some of those assignments and commitments as part of that 16 16 and a half million dollars so it's the goal of course across the multi-year projection is to keep that in fund balance above that five percent unrestricted unassigned that's in our board policy and and we we do accomplish that in our multi-year projection based on our adopted budget on the restricted side I mentioned we have a lot of programs so in our budget document you'll see in the consent agenda it lists all those programs and I have a list here you can see the elop that's our um learning expanded learning opportunity program that operates at our 10K 6 nk8 schools to serve the little ones after school and I know we got a lot of high school student workers in that program but we still have a good deal of money that we are we need to spend there Arts music instructional materials block grant was one of those new grants recently our we have a little bit of training funds left over the Community Schools planning Grant I know Mr Schlosser and his team are working with that's a small piece of that have the expanded learning opportunities Grant which is a couple years old we have our learning recovery emergency block grant and then of course we do have some routine major maintenance carryover funds to the tune of 1.8 million so that what's make that's what makes up the restricted side of the budget now we have a whole lot of other funds that we utilize to operate different programs in the district outside of fund 01 our general operating fund and I'll just go through those really quick it's fun to Levin our adult education fund one thing I would like to point out here you do see a transfer in in fund 11 adult education that was a contribution from our general operating fund to fund 11.

or any questions let me do it okay um just in going through the report I there were areas that um I guess I would like to see more data through the year um coming out of the office out of your office Jeff and that would be um you know things like um can we get kind of an overview of the past data without just regular updates on what you're finding with those absolutely and then also um discipline reports on a more regular basis um just you know just so we have a sense of of how the kids are responding to things sure yeah thank you good points the past data just for everybody's benefit because we we didn't really go into that detail here that's administered twice a year K through 12. so uh you know we'll have that data after we do the initial Administration in the fall I'm sure we'll talk about it a curriculum committee and then the discipline day that we could do at the end of every quarter I will admit some delinquency on that last year but uh I will definitely make a point of making sure you get that at the end each quarter thank you thank you seeing as there are other questions I think I'll Mr yeah I just want to comment real quickly um that the uh affirmation uh as uh Dr Solomon had mentioned before was reviewed and approved by the board and policy committee last year so it remains unchanged from then if that's my correct interpretation okay thank you likewise in the past uh survey was reviewed by curriculum uh including some of the questions being asked so we're looking forward to uh seeing the student sentiment you know the fates points looking forward to that any other comments questions okay if you have them but we'll uh we'll let people call home tonight so being there's no new business and no open questions I'm going to ask for a motion to adjourn 10 second in by Andrew all those in favor as unanimous thank you the meetings adjourned thank you everyone for staying tonight try

um it does not occur it's not a common occurrence however last year with some negotiated salary increases and some program adjustments and are adulted we did have more expenditures than we anticipated so we did have to make a small contribution to that program fund 12 Child Development that's our preschool program fund 13 Food Services that of course is nutrition services feeding all of our students a free breakfast and a free lunch every day if they choose to take advantage of that fund 14 our deferred maintenance program this program prior to lcff was funded by the state on an annual basis but was rolled into the lcff by Governor Brown several years ago we continue to make a contribution to this of six hundred thousand dollars a year because we recognize we still have deferred maintenance projects that we have to do at our schools and these are typically the larger maintenance projects roof repair is the biggest project that comes out of the Deferred maintenance because believe it or not we have a lot of old buildings and the extreme weather we have in the high desert is tough on roofing material I think after what I'm not going to call it a hurricane but when Hillary went through here last month we actually fared incredibly well in terms of roof leaks we had some but we did not have yes we had one dirked on Kylie's desk we had some leaks but we did not have major leaks and that really says a lot about our maintenance and operations Department Jim Kirk and their crew and and the contractors we bring in to assist on the larger projects they chase these leaks they patch them they fix them but we did have 110 work orders come in Monday as we were close to students but we had staff out there surveying our sites to make sure we were good to open on Tuesday just a lot of minor stuff uh fund 25 Capital facilities developer fees again that's our developer fee account of course when any home or commercial structure is built within the purview of Apple Valley Unified we do collect developer fees and that's where we hold them and expense them from fund 40 is our Special Reserve for Capital outlay this is an account that is uh the revenue from this account is based on uh the RDA the property tax increment in Redevelopment areas so you see we got about 1.6 million now this account is currently supporting our current cop that we took out about three years ago for some projects around the district and we'll support any additional cops that we we issue and when this account can no longer support those cops then those cops become a burden on our fund 01 General operating fund and then fund 51 we have this fund on our books we have absolutely nothing to do with the management of this fund this is our measure s Bond these are the property tax proceeds that San Bernardino County Treasurer collects from the residence within Apple Valley Unified School District and they pay the bond payments to support measure s foreign so just next we we of course make our adjustments at first interim we'll update that beginning fund balance we'll update revenues expenditures as appropriate we'll look at all of our assumptions we go through there's a little bit list there's a little list there um and of course I'll be back in front of you in December talking about our first interim financials which are the end of October um the auditors came early they were here last week not done but they did a lot of the work on these numbers last week Cindy and her team supported them gave them all the information they needed it was a very positive experience and since I was out last week I did not have to talk to the otter Cindy did which was good for me but any questions no thank you well done hi do we have any public comments we do we have two Francisco Reyes [Music] good evening uh Francisco Reyes I have a daughter at Mariana so that's why I'm here um the lack of facilities there was a lot of excitement up here in regards to Athletics earlier and so my daughter goes to Mariana they don't have a field to do PE they don't have a locker room to change for PE and so it would be like if you guys came in your nice suits and ran for a mile before you guys started this meeting and then sat here and sweat it all throughout this meeting right so you know let's put let's put ourselves in their shoes and do something about that because it's been like that since 2008.

and it's 2023. so for kids to be going to school and I've been provided with the proper equipment to do PE which is clothing to change into and a proper locker room to change into so they can participate in these programs uh my daughter was dress coded during PE because she was shooting baskets and her shirt went up so she ended up missing a test she was in office for 30 minutes and that's a big problem for me so I have two college students that are older than her and so education is a big thing for me and for her to be missing a test over her shirt going up that wouldn't happen if we would have had the proper clothing for PE so you know we've sat on this too long uh let's do something now let's not wait five years from now might not help her but it might help someone else because she's in eighth grade and she's gonna be graduating again you're going to high school you've never changed in front of someone because you don't have that proper facility at Mariana for them to do that how awkward is that going to be for a 14 year old to walk into High School Changing in front of other kids you know maybe she's not going to want to change and get an F and then what because we didn't give them the proper facilities for them to have PE you know and it's just not that it's just they they just threw some Bungalows back there and called it a middle school that's that's an elementary you know they're being told to watch what they say these are teenagers they're being told to watch what they say around the little kids because they're interacting with the little kids there's no separation you know you the kids at Vanguard the kids at Sitting Bull they're ahead of our kids at Mariana you know when when we have after school programs like basketball or volleyball they don't have a gym so what happens when it rains they cancel practice now they're getting better than we are and I've seen it through the years I have a 20 year old that attends Chico State that went to Mariana and they would always lose it it wasn't even a match because we're Counseling Practice because it's too hot even with PE what do they do when it rains you know they cancel PE right now that Maria not at uh Vanguard they continue having PE because they have a locker room they have a gym can you wrap it up yeah yeah well I'm just trying to I'm just trying to get this across to you guys because it's been since 2008 and no one's done anything so it's frustrating to watch you guys up here and your nice suits and but you want these kids to go in their nice clothes first period go run a mile and then sit in class sweating so that that's you know that's rude of you to tell me to shut up that's what you're telling me that's what you're telling me yeah well that's what you're telling me you know so it hasn't been three minutes it hasn't been three minutes and you're the president well I'm just telling you you should be ashamed because it's been since 2008 this has been going on so let's do something about it yeah well well you're on the board now so let's do something about it you know you're supposed to be here listen to what you're saying we're just we're you're supposed to be here for the kids right that's why we all have you guys all have jobs here because of the kids right you guys get funded to run a p program but you don't have the right facilities you spent the money on a parking lot that's not even functional instead of putting let's put some buildings back there like you did and call it locker rooms why can't we do that thank you for your time thank you okay thank you next next Lucia Martinez hello um I came here to express the that this district is the worst for special needs students I have three students in special education and the gesture has failed them to provide Vape um I want to know where the where did the funds go for the services I tried communicating with the Supreme intended and it seems that here at the high the high desert the employees don't care about their job or their students with disabilities Mr Wheeler is so unprofessional he hasn't done he seems that he doesn't care to communicate with the parents or or or cares if the students are actually learning or making any progress currently I have I have two CD complaints to this data duration hasn't tried communicating with me or even provided a decent documentation for the investigation one of my students was diagnosed with gastritis because at the school they don't care to make sure that he's fed his name is Jose Martinez and he has severity needs to which he is not being helped and they wanted to exit him next queer I want to be heard for my students to be provided to what their their needs um what do the do I do what do I have to do to get the help from my students does the superintendent and the board look at the care or care more about the general education than the special ed what is reported in my students IEPs are just words and and a piece of paper thank you okay anyone else have comments I just um want to follow up on a question from the last board meeting regarding Caravan cares um we have not been charged nor have we ever in any of the contracts been charged for any um wait time um including this year in fact when Caravan cares was contacted regarding that two dollar charge that was listed in the contract they did offer to redo the contract for us we have a wonderful relationship with them um in the target of how many students is day by day so if we can't provide a transportation with our own busing system they will immediately pick up and deal with it and they have served us with a homeless family as well couldn't get somebody over there with a van just because of location and they picked up that need so I just wanted to report back to that and that we will be bringing back a contract that shows that fee for wait time not included thank you okay any more to comments anybody else Rick Amanda Gary nothing true no nothing here okay a public hearing determined that each pupil in each School the Apple Valley Unified School District has or we all have prior to the end of the eighth week of school sufficient textbook and instructional material for the 223-24 here Patrick are you making this presentation there's no presentation but I'm happy to read through the next two paragraphs for you go right ahead okay this hearing is Education Code section 60119 and the ccnr title 5 Section 9531c require the governing board of any local agency receiving instructional materials funds from any state source to hold a public hearing on the sufficiency of textbooks or instructional materials by the end of the eighth week of school and this board meeting is our closest approximation to that and so at this point we'll take any questions from board members or um when we open the hearing members of the public regarding sufficiency and maybe maybe before that we go ahead and Mr Bender if you'll open the hearing and and mark the time okay now open the public hearing regarding the pupil textbook and instructional materials we'll start this a Time opened at uh 8 25.

now does anyone have any comments I do have a question regarding that um I I know the answer to the question but I think the public needs to know the answer uh if a student needs a textbook and you're having the textbook in the classroom will you issue the additional textbook for the student to take home so that they don't need to carry the large the heavy textbook back and forth in in cases where that's really the best option for example if there's a split household or a situation where there's something being assigned out of a book and they really just need to have one at home we we will assign a second book it is not standard we don't have two textbooks for every child but we do have the ability to do that when when the case arises but when you do that you wait until about the sixth week of school because otherwise they they come to school then they move and you lose a textbook I know that so you got to be careful when you do that you'll be buying double textbooks all right time close we'll call that 8 27.

w-a-c-a-tv I'm Rob Silva bringing you the season opener tonight but you're actually in clocker is facing off against the Dover Sherman Raiders [Applause] this team it's a team of potential disappointing uh season last year finishing at five and six the Raiders 11-1 if they stop in the opener 25-7 loss for the clockers last year we'll take a break to the national anthem [Music] the abbreviated version tonight's coverage brought to you by our sponsors Mr Handyman 126 Self Storage technoplex he savings a little under the weather we'll have Josh Abrams back next week she's traveling recovery in this don't understand here's over lumba mishandle the snap picks it up clean lead on the one box takes it back to the 21-yard line so no damage okay field position temperature game time 75 degrees a little breeze going from your left to right between 7 and 10 miles an hour beautiful night for football start time as you all know moved up to 6 30 this year get my after work nap gets cut short a little bit that quarterback starting from the uh drunk offense that's senior cam antonok [Applause] pick up about two yards good foreign [Applause] [Music] defense one of the strong points for the silver Sherburne team last year never giving up more than 14 points in the nine regular season games is a little push looks like just shy of the first down marker for four and a half needed five staying out there either quick snap or try and draw them offsides antenna keeps it tries to push his way through the middle on a second effort he gets it [Applause] [Music] one of the senior captains here along with Jacob friel's Tyler Pine Matt Terry and Nate Cavanaugh are all captains for this Quaker Squad foreign format basically he's gonna throw and he's gotta oh and just tripped offense mama's team [Applause] play goes for 38 yards Hanson a beautiful touch and the clock is Rush up to the line they love the hurry up offense well coached team they can do this pitches a little cut back bringing it to the outside Crispin looks like he had some room on the outside decided to cut it in one more time but he hits five and a half six yards maybe seven Chris been returning senior played uh put a lot of reps as a junior had some good yards on the ground fumble and uh little Bobble on the snap just falls on it brings up a third and four four down territory so the smart play by Anthony just uh not trying to do anything heroic foreign [Music] number nine coming into the uh explosive running back had a great start last season first came and broke his hand and limited action from there and uh coach McKay is going to take a timeout didn't like what he saw on the on the uh lineup there wants to think about it so again we want to thank those sponsors that we mentioned a little shout out to all of them who won some of their promo spots a little later owned by Ashley and Resident Michael Kane gated and fed for 24 hours security cameras getting off the convenient drive up storage unit for both the residential and Commercial need temperature controlled units outdoor Vehicles check them out 126 South storage.com thank you Mike for being a great underwriter here we are third down and four opening drive for the season with our regular formation Quantum Emerald number nine lined up next to cam Anton in motion is ozorumba gets a block and soldiers ahead to four yards four and a half yards and it looks like enough for the first down we'll see where the spot ends up needed to get to the 22 number 23 yeah those are on the Justice sophomore but the scouting report [Applause] very very impressive [Applause] biggest line tonight pick them heard some lines as high as Dover sure have been favored by seven but the official line pick them because I bring up the chains I think we got new chains this year but I think there's still 10 yards so probably shouldn't notice the difference not the most favorable spot but maybe a foot short of the first down do we have a replay going I want to see if that spot was correct not that they're going to change it so this is the second four thousand attempt on this Drive Ashland on their opening possession went forward on fourth and one from their own 30-yard line and made it [Applause] see which formation they go with [Applause] it would be Gunk formation rolls to his right and pushes ahead for three yards [Music] and a first down the clock is keep the drive alive eight minutes to go in the first quarter zero zero Anthony pitches to Crispin watch it outside he's got a lot of love he's gonna go in for a touchdown oh thought he was going to spot him down but it's a touchdown from the 19-yard line and clocker but the first point of the season on the board go up six nothing [Applause] I'll go for the extra point looking for Ashley number 89 Aaron Wolfe High snap [Applause] and it's blocked [Applause] but they're clocking leads six nothing with 7 27 a go did have a little trouble in the scrimmage against Wellesley The Long Snapper quickly uh students parents coaches and interests we also want to thank back again this year's response at technoplex Healthcare Health Care leverages its safer drug delivery that complex Healthcare is a proud sponsor again of the Ashland boys football team and they wish everyone on the team a great 2023 season oh thank you turn their p8s yeah I mentioned it to him I don't know if they're on one or if they're on ten if they're on one maybe they're on 11.

um and that was a playoff game I think that was in was that in the first round or second second round yep so um unfortunately we didn't come out with a win there but hopefully we can come out tonight make this uh this match up one one to one well welcome into the aces wild pregame show here on kchs uh head up to Aces wild they've got a putt-putt Bar Crawl going on for needy Paws tomorrow so come on up to Aces wild tomorrow get registered in for that Putt-Putt and it's going to be another great day on Saturday so Jared now let's talk a little bit about tonight uh we got to talk I don't know if you got to eat a little bit before the night the game here tonight sons of the American Legion donated the meal pulled chicken wonderful you had some oh I had some when I knew they were making that I knew I had to get some so thank you to the sons of the Legion for cooking tonight's dinner and supplying that for the boys they enjoyed it they started with 12 pounds they had about a quarter of a pan whenever they brought it down to the perch for their parents to take care of so thank you to the sons of the Legion um and our rest of our sponsors you saw there before the show thank you to them without them we couldn't do anything uh Joe bacardi's cooked the dinner for the volunteers up here in the Press Box the Chain Gang and uh the PA crew everyone so thank you to Joe bacardi's on the Columbia quarterback club for doing that so Jared let's talk a little bit about last week we don't have much to talk about are you sure you want to go there we got we got to go there for the people that weren't able to to see the game last week or wasn't able to listen to it it wasn't a pretty one Eagles lose that one 14-nothing and uh that's about all we have to say about it really yeah uh I'm glad there was no video in that game last week I will say that um but uh yeah I mean playing watery last week I mean it was not very good it was not fun not fun to watch especially on the offensive side of the ball um I think coming in this week coach Warner is going to definitely make a lot of changes on the offensive side of the ball um defense looked really solid I'd say the second part of the game um but overall yeah it's it's one that we would really like to forget yeah the uh the theme music for last week would have been like a backup beeper I think on a truck it was it wasn't good the Eagles offense uh there was no flying for the Eagles offense only 61 total yards of offense last week uh the leading rusher was Mason vaguely at seven yards the problem was the team total rushing yards was four so not a good not a good night there and then through the air I think the Eagles had 57 yards and two of the big receivers Aaron Lucas ribling and Sam Denny uh they were the two that got the got the yards in the air yeah and that's something that we wanted to see a lot in the first half last week towards the end of the game is when we kind of started to pick up the pace a little bit and we went on a pretty good drive there at the end but I really couldn't get anything going in the in that first half like I said but um I think coming in tonight there should be some changes we see on that offensive side of the ball and hopefully that o-line does a little bit better than they did last week yeah defensively though they did everything we asked them to do or the coaches asked them to do only didn't give up many yards at all the one drive that they had that ended up in the score was a 15 yard personal foul face mask that set up the Bulldogs in good territory as well and then a black punt yeah also led to a touchdown so the defense they did what they had to do they only gave up the two touchdowns wasn't anything major to talk about there but there's a couple guys that we have to highlight though on that defensive side of the ball yeah especially uh Brody Furlow had 10 tackles last week on that defensive line looked really good first week was getting in the backfield quite a lot but really couldn't make those plays like Ben Simmons was in that first week as well um and then we had guys like Mason vagley playing that safety coming up coming up playing a little linebacker he had eight tackles and then Maddox Stefan with seven and Brandon Jackson with six so a little uh stretched out um on the tackling um one guy I will say that I was really impressed in last week was cam janick playing that outside linebacker spot um and we talked about that almost throughout the whole game uh you have to force everything back inside and he he did that all game and that's why we only gave up 14 points um that whole game and they were quick points to be that right yeah it was the first Drive Waterloo scored I think they scored another one in the first half nobody scored in the second half so defense did what they were supposed to do they did what they had to do and uh unfortunately offense just didn't get it done so uh George Weber didn't have to donate anything with those Eagles touchdowns and the cheerleaders they didn't have to do any push-ups but tonight hopefully we can get the the tides reversed here and get the ball in the end zone as coach Warner had to say we're gonna head to a break and when we come back we'll talk about tonight we got the Taylorville tornadoes in town facing off to your Eagles we'll be back with the aces wild pregame show right after this thank you [Music] foreign [Music] welcome back into the aces wild pregame show Alex Flemmer Jared Germain Jared let's talk a little bit about tonight we have the tornadoes coming in like I said 101 miles that they made the Trek hour 40 minutes didn't get here till late but they're coming in at 2-0 this year yeah um I will say a two-hour bus ride is never really fun um we get to do it in a couple weeks yeah not fun um I so I'd say coming down here this is their first time being down here so um new atmosphere uh seeing a lot of fans out here hopefully for the for the Eagles side but we'll see what Taylorville brings to town and see what we got tonight tornadoes in the Eagles like Jared mentioned earlier meant uh met one time in 2018 45 23 I believe was the final of that second round game they went on to the quarterfinals and had to face Rochester but that was a game that really was dominated by Taylorville there wasn't much going on in that one so uh Eagles 0-1 against the tornadoes and hopefully tonight be able to turn that around but they come in 2-0 beat only Robinson two teams we don't know much about two teams that might be a little bit of the Lesser opponents and uh but they did what they needed to do and won pretty handily yeah if I'm not missed numbers that we need they're uh they're pretty dark yeah they got camo with black numbers so we had some trouble in that pre-game seeing uh who was who down there so we'll see how we do so Jared you come into this game can't get much worse after last week hopefully not what are your keys into tonight's game and getting the Eagles back on track I think you got to feed off your fans I know week one we didn't really have a lot of a lot of things good things going on our way um but I think you got to feed off your fans and our fans gotta gotta be a little bit better tonight um I think you got to forget about last week I think you actually absolutely have to just wipe it clean wipe that slate clean and come into this home game I'm excited um to play against a team that you rarely never play and then on the third one I'd probably say um just have fun um I know you're going to and if you go down oh and three now it's gonna be a lot harder to get in the in that playoffs I don't think we've started Owen three since I want to say what 2001 2001 yeah and um so coach Warner coach Jermaine have never really been in this position before so um hopefully we can we can get a win tonight 2001 was their first season together at the helm uh they started 0-3 rattled off five wins in a row got him to five and three lost in week nine ended up making the playoffs so anything's possible at this point of the season it's still early and we still got the Cahokia conference that we have going on as well so we're gonna head to one more break we're gonna get the band they're gonna get situated when we come back we'll have the National Anthem with the CHS band right after this [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] foreign ition by Mr Christian Avis Rouse and the Eagles marching band on the national anthem they were let out by the honor guard of the Columbia American Legion Jim Reeves Gary Pettit Michelle de Borge Kyle hillmeyer all over there for the American Legion and then the Junior ROTC which is a formed a CHS student so another great little feature here on Military Appreciation Night sons of a legion like I said did the cooking the Eckert boys brought out their tanks and then like I said National Guard they've got the uniform so thank you to all the men and women that helped keep us free and keep this great nation the way it is we are nearing kickoff here as the teams are getting ready to break huddle there you see the Eagles talking with Coach Kendall and we talked with Coach Kendall before the game and we talked about punts one of the things you know special teams 10 of the plays but 100 of the outcome sometimes whenever they have a blocked punt which we've had two of them this year in two weeks so hopefully the punt team's able to figure it out but I think on our kickoffs throughout this season here so far Jared we haven't had too many issues with those knock on wood yeah Keegan Thompson's looked uh good to end up all pretty deep um I'd say what was that last week I think we had more punch than we did first down 100 agree with that yeah so uh coach Kendall definitely got a lot of work last week with his uh punt team um had a couple of a couple of them that were not the greatest of uh punts or blocking up front but um hopefully we got that done this week in practice and I think that happened last week the ball just fell off the team they did Eagles are going to be coming out like I said in the camo jerseys white hats white pants Taylorville purple and gold is their main colors purple pants white jerseys and purple helmets thank you for joining the aces wild pregame show it's Eagle football time as Keegan Thompson approaches the ball getting ready to kick it off he's going to send it right to left it's going to be returnable at the 15-yard line deep man's gonna get it he's going to get try to get back up to the middle of the field nothing going though brought down by Dalton rainwater and there's going to be a penalty on the play as well a holding penalty so that's going to push him back right away even more get to see first look at this Taylorville offense [Applause] not really sure what they're going to be running I think it's going to be a lot of spread a lot of Crossing routes from the receivers so uh these linebackers like I said last week forcing everything back inside these linebackers are gonna have to be ready a little bit more ready for the pass this week [Music] shifting these wide receivers from one to the next level Eagles are going to be injury plagued this week not having Joe Kish and Logan Hicks so there's going to be some new down linemen for the Eagles two wide receivers out wide it's gonna be a quick pass number 15 to number three One Missed tackle and it's a good block out there by number four and a great job by the eagle Defender holding the block and not letting anything happen for a gain of one that's something I don't even think we have a number nine on here we got a couple new jerseys this week number six it was number nine there on the tackle we don't even know who that is Alex man I don't even know I would say it looks like Mason just from up here yeah I think it is because he plays that safety position and then he's on that other side we don't have a number six we don't have a number nine it's gonna be interesting there's one on his helmet so this is Peyton Andrews is six tonight we're gonna have to look at the helmets and look at even smaller numbers now same formation now they're just gonna flip it this time the quarterback is going to be under Center tight under the right side sniffer back right it's a counter great job there by Brandon Jackson getting in the backfield good swarm tackling by the Eagles and it's only a gain of maybe nothing brings up a third and long [Music] and there's another one over there I've got a number here in a second double eagles look like they're going to be showing man-to-man across Jackson's gonna show the blitz on the outside he comes but the quarterback goes to the left he gets behind his big lineman led by number 66 I believe was the number 56 rather six foot 200 pound Junior lead blocking gain of six that's something I was I've been impressed over the first two games um our d-line and our linebackers really uh really showing up to play um I haven't really got pushed back a lot I'd say against Waterloo and against uh in that first game they look pretty pretty good up there in the box so hopefully we can keep that up motion man number three he's going in front of the quarterback it's gonna be a run great job there flying the gaps lost on the play looks like that better than Keegan Thompson there 13.

are they on 11. now I'm good thank you he's gonna come up I talked to him I told him to come up whenever we could kicking off into the win nice kick down to the 10-yard line he had his knee down when he caught it great catch great call uh by the official and Coach McKay to make sure that they didn't miss it can't catch it on your knees that's awful foreign where he caught it on the 11th but [Applause] here we go Garrett Webb under Center quick throw [Applause] intended for John saber very similar to Kansas City Chiefs Receiver right there looked like a decent throw just turned his head up field Matt Terry and Nate Cavanaugh anchoring the left side of the line should have bought this look at the other number for everybody watching at home they left early there's a penalty it'll be five yards [Applause] [Music] so for our team looking to make it to the Super Bowl it's over Sherman definitely not starting the way they wanted as I said 11-1 last year not losing until the semifinals they do play Tri-Valley small [Applause] but there's not much of a drop off talent wise between Tri-Valley small and Ashley and Tri-Valley large so in motion pitch two tell me that is not on our roster I believe unless I'm gonna listen to the PA announcer see if he's got him on his roster but number two I apologize not on there captains for Dover Sherburne Chris kiesling Brian Olson Dylan Rogers and Garrett Webb so third and 15.

you're 13 the sophomore had to come in and play last week I guess he came in I think he's the replacement for IX quarterback number 15 for the tornadoes is the son of head coach Jeb Odom Baron the quarterback is 6-3 165 Junior third and nine from the Taylorville third and one 31. pass play and it's going to be a screen all the defensive linemen went after the quarterback but that's okay somebody in the backfield kept their assignment and it's going to be a fourth down for the tornadoes at their 35-yard line looked like tackle there by 40 a game looks like cam janick bring on the punt team for Taylorville hunt team looks like riebling is going to be the far back returner for the Eagles he's got number 12 on them number 11 turns 12. low punt not a very good punt bounces at the 40 gives Taylorville a good bounce though and it is going to go to the 29 yard line where this Eagles offense is going to try to get some air under their wings and not flutter so much beautiful night here in Columbia 806 remaining in this first quarter Sunset and beautiful temperature it feels like fall we have to think our uh we'll call them the ground screw here at Columbia School District they did a great job as any of you remember we did not have very good signal in week one there is a massive hole over in the trees though in between us in the middle school they cleared it in a week's time so thank you to the Community School Districts ground screw doubles formation pistol-back fumbled snap vaguely picks it up and he's gonna have to make something out of nothing there's three Taylorville guys in the backfield LED flag just thrown it's going to be a loss of nine we'll see what the flag is looks like a hole or block in the back yeah so yeah in week one it is a block in the back see what happens the penalty is declined so it will be a loss of eight let me get it on about the 21 now looks like yep second in about 17.

most likely a passing down immediately testing that secondary out there cam antenna Chrisman deep for Ashland on the coverage Webb uh antonux got a beat uh Chrisman accuse me but good coverage by David sales blanketing the receiver never had a chance of Dover Sherburne first possession negative four yards they're going to be punting back the punt for Dover Sherburne that's Garrett Webb the quarterback you're going to let it bounce take the favorable Roll With the Wind 14 yard line to the 50-36 that's a net 50-yard punch not bad not bad at the high school level even with the Wind but still good field position for Ashland [Music] okay to the front formation fakes the handoff and he's out in front of everybody only one man can beat him or catch him excuse me but he doesn't do it cam Hampton like 60 yards and a touchdown 64 yards and just like that it's 12 to nothing [Applause] [Music] yeah touchdown Cam internet in the off-season bulking up putting on about 20 25 pounds [Music] obviously put on a little picked up a little more speed too but just enough strength this isn't a bulky just break some of those hand tackles see if the clockers can with the extra point cleanly much better but they were able to penetrate the line and uh good job by he was number 24 that's Olson your star two-way player who got a hand on it to a less than uh just under six minutes 547 to go in the first quarter actually and scoring on their last two two plays from offense [Applause] foreign wolf number 89 kicking for Ashland but McKay does like to try and mix it up see if he does something no line drive kick nice bounce but they don't feel it on the first bounce [Applause] they do get a 20-yard return out of it and that was number 12.

18. we'll go second 18 from the Eagles 21. same formation three down lineman for the tornadoes three linebackers looks like they're gonna be doing cover two with the two safeties it's gonna be a rollout for vigley he had Denny he didn't get it to him he's throwing it deep to ribbling and it's overthrown not too many plays in the playbook for third and 18 so we'll see what coach Horner drums up here yeah and you know he's probably this week he's really uh been not hard on his offense but um wanting to see something better out of his out of his group out there and on the first snap you have a fumble so um you know he's probably not happy on that sideline right now especially with third and 18 now not a lot of plays like Alex said that you can run here and I think that fumble just went right through vaguley's hands it I don't think there was nothing wrong with the snap it just slid on through now they're gonna have four down linemen for the tornadoes it's just going to be a run play trying to stretch it to the outside good job stock blocking out here for the Eagles and it's Jason or Jace James getting to the outside he's going to be close to a first down but I don't think it's enough so we'll have to see what they decide to do and I think you can hear coach Kendall screaming punt remember that left tackle was there I'm not sure who it was but he did a great job of sealing that defensive end on that outsider on there by Jason Nelson Chase Nelson I don't need yeah you were blinking there weren't you start putting two players together again happens all the time under seven minutes fourth down and six I thought he made a little bit closer that first down than he did vaguely gets it off kind of shakes it to the right side but it gives another Columbia bounce and it's gonna go out of Bounds at the Taylorville 38-yard line we're gonna stay with yes it seems like it's going to be a pretty quick change of possession here so the Eagles did what they needed to do on defense once again they've been doing that all year offense got some positive yards there so that's a good good little uh drive to get started we do have to give a shout out to Todd Sharkey clasquin as he is in his 15th season of keeping stats for Colombia him and him and Howie are down there every week right next to each other getting the best stats they can get gonna be just a ISO right up the middle this time for Taylorville and something that is very nice to see look at all the white helmets around the ball right there that's all you can ask for as a defensive coach having as many white hats fly to the ball as you can great job there on first down only a game of about two and a half maybe three we'll go second and seven all it to Taylorville 41-yard line there still a team that gets in a huddle so kind of we're not used to seeing that too much slows the game down a little bit 6-10 on the clock doubles running back to the right side three down lineman for the Eagles that's Brody furloughs at other down linemen that I couldn't tell earlier it's just going to be a design quarterback run right up the middle gonna bring up third and one [Music] going back to the Sharky and uh Mr Howie down there I bet they didn't have too much to uh write down last week on that offensive side gonna be just a quick play right up the middle and great job by the tornadoes they're still pushing going forward penalty flag thrown and that was just out of the head referee he threw that from the back the white hat I don't know what that signal is I don't think you can push the quarterback correct um but yeah I don't know I don't know nowadays let me change the rules too much yeah I'm not really sure what that one was it's going to be a loss of 10 it was a spot foul usually that's the motion for a sideline warning but for them to throw a flag that had to be something going on about the play and especially if the white Hat's the one that threw the flag yeah sideline you have to be throwing the flag of everything else so third down and eight Eagles are gonna have to try to make something happen here they're just going right up the middle at Josiah Miller so hopefully those linebackers are able to step up and make a play happen motion man comes across just shuffles number 22 they got him out in the flat and it's going to be good for a first down just barely good Pursuit there by the Eagles but it was about a yard too short gonna be a First and Ten ball at the Taylorville 49 yard line you had Peyton Andrews there in on that tackle they look like Max Stefan was kind of chasing that receiver there tornado was able to pick up the first down keep the chains moving 445 remaining on the clock still no score here in Columbia in the week three matchup 2-0 tornadoes oh and two Eagles single receivers one tight end to the right side two running backs it's gonna be a run right up the middle it tries to back it to the outside nothing going good play there by the Eagles defense [Music] looks like no gain on that one second and ten oh with a clear case clock is not stopped I don't know we had one in completion I guess that was the only time I think it stopped so far Taylorville traveled pretty well they filled up the grandstands across the way Eagles once again good crowd here for the Eagles trips to the left side running back right ball on the right Ash quarterback's Gonna Keep it right up the middle nothing going though just stood up before all the Eagles come and make the tackle and Jared I watched the video this week There's a defensive coordinator talking and he said the best thing that he sees when he gets done watching film on the last little clip he wants to see how many white hats or his color helmets are in and so far tonight the Eagles have done a great job with that yeah and that's something last week uh I know we would we would get it forcing everything back inside but you'd only have one or two maybe three guys thrown in the ball tonight you've had at least I'd say six seven eight guys flying at the ball which is all you can ask for um this run game really hasn't hasn't got anything going so hopefully we can keep this up motion man number two it's gonna be quads of the left side he's gonna be a blocker they're going to look deep nothing going now the quarterback's got nothing but Green in front of him he's got a first down he's through the 30 and he's going to slide at the 30-yard line so from third and eight to First and Ten after a big run everyone flew to that side of the field and he had nothing but pay dirt in front of him that's something that's just so hard to guard on the defensive side whenever you have quarterback that can run rolling out um it has about three or four options downfield and if none of those are open can just put his head down and start running um it's just another option that you can add to your offense um having her quarterbacks that's got legs number 20 comes in late he's going to be the running back had to get the play after the team had already broke the huddle it's going to be a run to him he makes one man miss furlough missed in the backfield another guy spun away from but good job Once Again by The Eagles defense flying to the football first one in that back foot there almost had about a loss of three if he gets his paws on there but again in one gonna be a second and nine now we got an injured tornado on the field the injury is number five the tight end for the tornadoes cash Forker the junior we're gonna head to a break real quick with the injury we will be back with the final two minutes and 14 seconds from the multi-purpose field right after this [Music] foreign welcome back to the Columbia multi-purpose field where the injured tornado was able to get off the field under his own power gonna be a second down in nine now after the short game two minutes on the clock now triple to the right side doubles to the left empty backfield quarterback sitting by himself play clock under five you get to snap off gonna be a straight pass down the middle of the field nobody there he's going to get himself into the end zone 4A touchdown Taylorville that was just a simple trips right over here I think you had one of them running a bubble route and then you had two vertical routes so I mean on that you got Corner maybe playing the tornadoes Taylorville comes in 773 students third largest school that the Eagles will play this year like I said earlier in the broadcast uh Columbia comes in 618.
