Hoopoe I take your your very first sentence you said that you like the direction this is going that I that is all I needed to her here I I want to focus then on two words in the resolution first is explore and the second is evaluate it doesn't say do it doesn't say produce it it merely says explore yes and evaluate the your point is well-taken how I'm curious about the interaction with what the intern is doing and I mean if she's working on something that becomes webpages either that establishes some sense of design for us or maybe it's so bad that we want to throw it out and start over but yeah but I'd actually say that it very much looks like interactive web pages it's it looks like the the you know the parallax piece where you have things that slide in front and slide behind I've literally went to a workshop on this yesterday so it looks very much like a designed web page or set of web pages and you're able to click through to other pages that are hosted there as well so it's a it's a very user friendly way of putting together an interactive information piece it's something I'm gonna do next year for my program at the University for sure so control you do in that you're basically back rounding with your own pictures you are using maps that can be supplied from this is so in in some ways they at the workshop they made us do one it's hard to make it look bad because it's got so many features sort of built in but I think that what will happen is that when if we can get some kind of these these whatever these codes are could be linked to the interaction there could be a way to sort of work that back and forth once that is sort of created so it sounds like whatever happens with with the motion whether it gets turned over to staff or we keep it kind of in the art commission that we probably need to wait to see how that plays out before too much happens on it it's going to establish some precedent this was to have some work happening some exploration happening while that information is being taught you and then any implementation likely what happened so do we vote well it's moved and seconded so we have to do something with it okay I mean let's look at a table it I just wanted to say that I want to echo sort of what you said around the fact that it's good to put this into the record for the purposes of having it be in our minds while we are developing the other pieces so I think that that's that's a a good direction as you put it Craig to just sort of think about can Olivia join this group I mean is it advantageous we would welcome you to join the work group you're talking about or those for Olivia okay so motion Bonita turn our discussion she can direct the work so all right all in favor of exploring and evaluating yes great yeah I'll just it I don't know if anyone wanted to send something with me but I got to go downstairs to the basement right now any word on the design review board you know I'm working with staff right now I really still waiting to hear back from the planning department on their more feedback but also just kind of communications that had with you Commissioner John is is will will the member from this commission be okay if if you know as a non-voting member to to the plan and reviewed design board you know how much influence they have on the decisions that get made there and whether it's the best fit or not but I think we just want to make sure that it's it's a position that has meaning to it and is effective in the process of influence public art with new development but it's it's I don't have a formal answer for you just yet other than its ongoing and trying to make sure that it has as much impact as it can have okay I can give five minutes to this okay well yeah this is a report from a developer support workgroup and the idea behind this is to provide some tools resources and even inspiration for developers for how they can incorporate art of art into future developments that will be happening so commercial residential developments happening in Ann Arbor a few different components to it starting with a registry of artists so that would you know give them sort of a background of people that could potentially participate in or commissioned work for those developments also a registry of consultants and people that could advise the artists then you have people that are familiar with the process and consulting on that an idea book we use an example in the meeting which was essentially my interest page which showed public art in various different cities all different contexts be it mural sculpture kind of pieces like those and essentially the piece that was being discussed by councilmember Ron Walley is the idea of a member of the public art Commission serving on the design review board to give input for projects that are coming and how to incorporate work into those those new constructions may be QP can help me with all he knows the encyclopedia over there the the concern is the decisions that the design and review board make are kind of just black and white there's not a whole lot of room for influence when it comes to public art and I and I haven't explored this to great depths to vetted out on whether is the place to be to put this out to an end to developers minds and drawings and buildings and so whether we're where this can go in the process in in development is is is kind of what is that question I think it's important to inject somebody with this knowledge into that space so that there's more familiarity with how we can integrate development and art from ground zero and I think it could it could be something that has a slower start but could really gain momentum and this is what's happening in other cities and this is why public art is so successful around the nation is because there's this overlap and integration of development and public art and so for us to be lacking that really sets us behind the creative standard that is happening across the nation of creating a local maybe it's even regional artist database along with art consultants that can work with developers at this stage and this is just the impact of this is just renowned and it's happening around the nation and so for us to even just plant the seed for that is really important my understanding is the designer V Board doesn't really make any decisions anyways they have no authority over the project so I'm not sure being a non-voting person on a board that doesn't actually make any decisions doesn't seem that different that problematic to me but I think it does it does give us an entree to at least talk to people that we might not have the possibility of talking to about public artwork it will only reach projects in the downtown area because that's all the design review board covers so there's that start somewhere yeah I think it's much more attractive than going through a database and a sheet looking for possible CIP projects that we can attach to I mean this is so much more intrinsically designed when you can connect artists consultants with the developer and I think there could be a lot of excitement in just educating developers and how they can upgrade their facades or their spaces and create more community and really everybody wins at that point I think what the hesitation of staff was just didn't want to set up you know false hope and put a member in that position that wouldn't have that you know impact but I agree I think you never know the synergy something might be said to spark conversation a question it was something happen in a conversation that made a considerable impact and change so but also to the Art Commission [Laughter] [Music] and I know madam chair yeah well well pester him some more you know again I'll let John go ahead because I got a good man but I will stay for another second or a minute I would like to make a motion that incorporates these recommendations ABCD and I would like to emphasize that they all began with the word explore mr.

Gillis at this time I'm really really proud of the fact that this is the largest graduating class that we've had here since I've been here in the last four years we have pressed time we have a better than 23 students that have completed their certificates that completed their course of study and they're going to be graduating on the 16th so that is really a truly the speaks volumes for hard work that they put in the hard work that the teachers have put in lord knows of teachers F to the parents as well and all the things that they had to do behind the scenes getting them up in the morning making sure they're at school calling the front office receiving phone calls from us as well I mean it's a community effort and to have 123 students and there's still a Institutes they're still they haven't completed their course of studies yet but we still expect to have maybe three four five more students make it for the commencement ceremony next week so we're very very excited about that number it's it's a testimony to the collective effort that we do as a group not just one party not two parties just a whole group to really make sure that these students are successful it's not always easy but it's always rewarding so I'm really pleased to to mention that and each student here has their own story if you talk to them they can tell you the trials and tribulations that's the successes that they have on the way and I would love to have an awful appearance speak for a moment or two but we camp for time but I certainly would like to have someone come up here and share her story what she's done since she's been here so at this time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so let me tell you about myself my name is Rebecca Coughlin and I'm a graduating senior and also the president for our town hall here at sundown I came to sundown this year and impacted my life in a very positive way the teachers here always burnt their hardest debate each and every one of their students succeed and with all their classes students focused on putting students first always I would leave my team better grades I spent down to to the opportunity send out gifts with extra 30 minutes to get time in each class that you may need extra hug with so I believe that sunsets at the plan for each or one of their students to make it more individualized for their specific needs the teachers have turned out I believe have a unique unique way of impacting their students teachers at sundown provide all of us with a current tonight and support we needed or I think we did indeed at this moment they help us with our journey to go to this place and time for that I thank you all [Applause] let's give her another nice round of applause all right this part of the program is where we as a step down staff like to present a special awards recognition in the attendance excuse me on the academic Ariens the academic areas will be presented by teachers who represent the subject area so at this time I'd like to present how the presentation for math and the individual that we'll be doing the presentation is miss Cathy [Applause] so I like to say that I won't be today the privilege of announcing the amount of work and we do this every year and I have to tell you it isn't an easy process we get together as a math department and we try to agree I've got one student that deserves this award and usually we have different ideas about how to cuz I'm ready to fight for money and he actually said that very same and so this year you'll be blessed to know that you were exactly all of her choice you were one choice well there are many others that are very deserving this one individual does really stood out so I need to indulge me for just a moment I want to show something a little personal with you that will lead you to telling you about this year's massive recipient so most of you don't know the staff knows that just recently I lost my stepfather and this was very hurtful loss for me because he was so much more to me than a stepfather he was what every father should be he was kind and compassionate hardworking and it would give you the shirt off his back and come to someone's aid even at 2:00 in the morning he always built me up and when he could he taught new things most of his life he was in the service of some type he spent many years in Montgomery words as a service technician and when he went then when they went on earth he Sears recruited them and he continued on with them he can fix just about anything I knew he knew everything why do I tell you this you might be asking will our choice reminds me of all of these same qualities that this student has and I believe that he too will spend his life helping people teaching people and building people up he is great and Herbert even has a knack for understanding all areas in math but that is a way who stood out to me what I saw was a leader I saw kindness I saw humility and I saw him family my course is more of a self-paced course and he actually finished a couple of weeks early and I think I saw him stopping his own work because someone else in the class up here needed help and so he stopped what he was doing and he stopped to help them and the interesting thing is it wasn't a friend it could have been a friend it could have been an acquaintance it could have been somebody that he barely knew it didn't matter he just enjoyed helping others so here's where he's going to know who he is for the rest of you will have to wait for a second the other thing I asked him so what's next College and he responded no now I admit that I'm still playing old school and that made me a little sad but then he continued to say that he started work with his dad for a little while and earn money for Community College and I have to tell you that that did my little financial nap part really good thank God I didn't ask what he wanted to do and he stated that he wanted to go into air conditioning Wow so I was always thinking about what he wants to do I try to figure out how can we help him on his way this makes our reporting to many but for students sometimes and to get from my heart because as I said this student although much younger just really has the same heart as my stepdad who I miss very much so I like home when I told my mom all about this and I asked her if she would help me she was more than happy to and so what we did next was we went outside and we went through all of my stepdads air-conditioning equipment and we picked something out for him to get him started and so you should know that this means a lot to me because it comes from so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and it is a compression test for all right this time I'd like to introduce mrs.

Hoopoe and so my motion would be to move this Commission adoptee this is a motion first of all there's a couple of things that I was just thinking about it I was looking through this the first is who is exploring are we exploring and welcome staff so it's staff exploring the development of a registry the development of this project review etc the second question I have is are there already partners that we could think about in the community that might actually be able to implement a registry more easily than us for instance the Arts Alliance that would be part of the exploration because I would want to make put that out there as a you know because maintenance will be an issue there might be partners that are already doing this kind of work as we know and it seems like the main area for staff to explore straight up is the ordinance piece is the part of actually getting in there and I agree that being at the table to have the discussion I mean they're they're having a discussion whether they're they have the power to do anything or not and so that seems to be the entree for at least starting to to do this work so alright thank you David okay I was just gonna say that we haven't really talked much about the idea book for public art John claims that he spent just a little bit of time putting this together before a meeting and I defy anyone to look through that and not see 20 things that you wish we had in our community very inspirational so if you haven't gotten the live link of that we should send that out if it's still I had hoped that we could show it but a little more planning on my part we could but it's a to public art org look it up on your cell phones and it's simply a Pinterest site and you know how Pinterest works addictive but brought together under those headings you're absolutely right it you know and that is hopefully the intent that if we could get this if a developer would look at it oh my god yeah and then you know ideas I used to make our ideas are a dime a dozen go to any bar near an art school and you'll see a million ideas it's actually getting them done but the inspiration has to start there I think I think this is a wonderful way to reach the private sector and start getting more dollars private dollars going towards I think I would express the same kinds or concerns that you guys put together in here about the registries that you know developing it and maintaining it it's gonna be a challenge yeah so how that happens I don't know but they would be great resources and I think that having a seat at that table if and I just wanted to say should we ask our city council liaison to afford that link we will ask our city companies under forward that link I have shared that with ollie and ask him to forward that link and we can do that I didn't want to get too far I had no but now that which I usually does it so but this is discussion and on the motion once we have this motion I think part of the exploration process would be to share this you know first with the IT this is something I did this is my personal account they they say they may want to say you know keep it personal or bring it in you know to make the list branded as the city's I don't know I don't care that but I just think they need to think about it explore how it might happen it's just an example it's right it's just an example yeah great but a powerful one too by David I think to report at this time the fundraising work group also report [Music] youth outreach and interaction work nothing to report we haven't met since then but I think we do need to reconfigure ourselves shortly and think about how we want to move forward with leadership and I'll go I'll make the outreach for that for that any other things I'm gonna get an electric bike I'll just update big city small world did get a stage last stage they had music for the water hill music festival continued which is a new a new iteration it was very local very neighborhood Eve a lot different than the last several years and the people who attended loved it it was really great there was music both at big city on Spring Street and then probably yet about a dozen homes throughout the area and at the porch of bloom across the street from big city so that's pretty fun [Music] just quickly treetop murals will be bringing two new murals to downtown Ann Arbor first one is at the Detroit filling station we install the panels on Friday so that will be any kind of collaborative project and then we're working with destination and Arbor and wood field properties to bring a mural to the Huron and 4th Street corridor as well so stay tuned you

Kazama and she is the electives teacher [Applause] so long issues are several key determinants that me to choose my person well this person was just beyond the average student I've seen so many traits that before just beyond blacks and Asians this student that I have in mind was actually a very respectful determined to accomplish whatever he had to do self-motivated well matter and extremely well behaved classes are self-paced and in terms of where this event is possible I'm sure he kept going and going one class after another Kiki beautiful mounts over one team is completely done quizzes the midterms whatever there was including two finals and just one class out of time while all of this I again experienced nothing warm but beautiful behavior determination and everything so I press on to the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right for the area of science I'd like to introduce miss Donna crosses [Applause] most people do not intend to understand they listen to the intent to reply this was my stephen r.covey this theme was unexpected in my posture that share this is not all that many students undergo backgrounds and lots of opinions as we focus on all this information that's thrown at them every day there were social media and television each student was asked to research present day nor the Guardian topic of their choice and after that data was presented there were many many many discussions and sometimes too many as these conversations continued with every unit they began to put their opinions aside and really started to listen to each other and asking for clarification one student stood out in the room because he was making connections between the units the disease's the treatments the therapies and how the whole body was connected these conversations is continuing to happen when I was truly pains that they be gonna need to listen to each other and not just reply to each other one student had managed to change old enemy from across a chair and actually taught me how this lesson by it's an actual book this one student leadership from so [Applause] all right for the area of social studies the same way this will fog and I had many students to consider this year when selecting the social studies student of the year there were many students that we both have in our classes that we wanted to celebrate and recognize today but unfortunately we can only pick one when making the final selection we looked at both the criteria what makes a gifted social studies student as well as the student who appreciates the importance of studying social studies that takes advantage of the opportunities of Sunday the student that we selected this year came to us after falling behind early in her high school career however once she's joined us she soared and excelled in everything she did she did extremely well in all of her classes [Music] the world lies in the hands of those who have the courage to dream and who take the risk of living out their dreams each according to his or her own talent this wolf on and I are very happy to present this award to the social studies student of the year Erika safar so [Applause] all right in the English it is too difficult that seems to be the final deciding factor for us this year the word voice not just the act of speaking but what is it portrayed through actions and written work we spend time conferences easy someone's around throwing and added energy to class discussions while others were studious and pray mr.

kids are the top of the top only 1% of all deca kids ever make it to the international competition so it's kind of like the Olympics everybody that goes is an outstanding athlete but only 3 people can win and all the years I've been doing this I've only had what we call deca glass can you hold every Decker glass twice in 18 years it is so it's a really big deal I mean it was a really big deal for all of them to be there it's a super big deal to bring home deck of glass we got a second place we were in first place with one minute left to go in the competition and just lost it by a few hundred dollars but they did good and I have to say I'm really excited because out of all of the 23 kids that I took the Nationals four of them were seniors the rest are all freshmen and sophomores so we've got a long ways to go and finally Madam President members of the board dr.

Kellis I am here to address my requesting a pardon and release of my 2019 2020 contract and waiver of the liquidated damages of $1,000 I signed my Dysart contract on April 12 by 5:00 p.m. for fear that I would take a loss in employment I am the sole provider for my family due to the fact that my husband is disabled if I had not signed my contract I would have not been able to provide for however four days later I was offered the opportunity to as instructional coach for Liberty Elementary School District I accepted this opening because I view it as a professional advancement position although the pay is not equal to or more than my Dysart contract this opportunity creates a career advancement that gives me experience skills and practice necessary to obtain my four true goals of becoming an administrator I do not believe I am leaving Dysart School District in a hardship as I am NOT walking out on my classroom I have failed my duties as a certified teacher for the 2018-2019 school year however miss buck has informed me that the title of instructional coach is not considered professional advancement because it is not a position that includes monetary advancement or requires an administrative certificate which I do have in my 24 years of educational experience never has it been mentioned that an instructional coach is not a good pathway to administration my whole goal is to help my students learn and grow this new position will allow me to do that I have applied for numerous instructional coach positions with Dysart and have not been afforded the opportunity to advance my skills thus being the reason for me leaving the extra training and opportunity to work closely with district vision and teacher development will take my career closer to my goals of being an educational administrator in my mind that is an advancement in my two years here I have been gifted liaison peer mentor member of the instructional cabinet middle school leadership team lighthouse member in charge of professional development for leader in me at our school I have found great value in leaning on our 21st century teaching learning specialists as experts I have noticed that that the skills they have appeared to be a stepping stone to an administrative goal I know that the Dysart community looks at the tls as more than a teacher but a LevelUp a leader I have never wavered on my commitment to provide my students with the best edge there is still time to replace my position so that the students will not be affected in any way I hope that you reconsider and wave this feet do that the fact it is truly a professional advancement I am willing and able to meet with anyone personally and discuss this I thank you for your time thank you thank you not a president that's it dr.
