Um okay, good. about parking. Yes. Oh, good. All right. Okay. So, nobody else has anything else. So, we'll kind of uh go into public comment now. That's fine. Thank you, Kate. So um this was received uh from Christian Gu SA and I apologize for misprononunciation. Uh this is concerning the parking passes to whom it may concern. I am writing this letter in regards to the current cost of the Dartmouth High School student parking pass. I feel as though the students are being unfairly charged for yearly parking pass for a multitude of reasons and I will explain. After speaking to Mr. Jim Kylie, I came to the understanding that the revenue from the yearly $60 parking pass goes towards plowing the parking lot in the winter, repainting parking lot lines, and general maintenance of the lot. The problem with that is all of these maintenance procedures should be covered by the taxpayers dollars.
All of the Dartmouth elementary schools, the middle school, and the majority of the public town buildings, if not all of them, are all plowed and paid for by tax dollars. There is no reason that the students should have to pay for the maintenance of the school's parking lot. Not only is it unfair for the students to have to pay for their parking passes, it is also not affordable for many of them. The students who are beginning to drive have many additional new expenses that they are responsible for. The extreme high costs of new driver insurance, purchasing a car, repairs, and gas are just some of the expenses these students now have to pay. Many of my peers are already living paycheck to paycheck between these expenses and trying to save up for college. At the end of the day, what ends up happening is that the parents of these students end up getting stuck buying the parking passes for them, which also is unfair due to the fact that they are already paying taxes, which should cover this cost.
This policy of paying for parking passes is very outdated. When the new high school first opened back in 2002, students were assigned designated parking spots that had a number painted on it. They were only allowed to park in their particular spot. This is how parking was handled up until a couple of years ago. The policy has changed since and this is no longer the case. The parking lot is now on a first come, first serve basis. This goes for teachers as well and the only people in the building with assigned spots are the administrators. So I ask you to please look further into this issue. It would be understandable if the parking fee was maybe a maximum of $20, but the truly equitable solution to this problem would be to making to make parking free just like the other local students or rather local schools in town buildings in Dartmouth.
Thank you, Christian Guaj SA. Um, I don't know if you want me to read the other email. Um, or if you um, what's the pleasure of the committee reading both and then we comment or Well, I didn't think we would since this was public comment. I didn't think we commented on public. True. True. I'm sorry. I didn't think we commented on public comment. I'll I have no problem hearing the other email. Okay. Um, and this comes from, um, actually I can't tell. They don't provide their name. Uh, it just, uh, it's someone named Kathleen. If this continues, and I'm not sure what they're referring to is this, perhaps the current situation, are there any plans for clothing drives as the season changes? That's the question. Thank you. Well, since that second one's kind of not budget related, I think I'll just throw my two cents in if that's all right with you, Madam Chair.
Yeah, that's fine with me. I think anything is on the table and if this continues, um I'm sure that um groups, whether it's high school groups or community groups, I'm sure would will step up and do what this community needs. Um, I know we're all pitching in, lending a hand to one another, and I just think that's something that um that'll h just happen and uh it'll take place when the time is right. Agreed. Agree. Anyone else have any further comments? No. Okay. So with that um our nextly scheduled meeting is Monday, April 6th remote for Zoom, right? That's before the date we would go back if best case scenario. Um this meeting will be held at 5 well um this isn't really accurate but as it reads uh 5:30. Um it reads at town hall but that won't happen. Um that's right before our joint meeting, right?
That's right before our joint meeting. So yeah. Um and we're budget wait and see with that as far as how that goes. Correct. Mr. Kylie, can you check or Dr. Git, can you check and see if they're going to provide pizza if we actually do meet at town hall? Okay. Um, with that, I will entertain a motion to adjourn this regularly scheduled meeting um, and to go into executive session to provide an update union personnel not to return to this Zoom open meeting. So moved. Second. Okay. All in favor? Roll call. Kathleen Amarol. Yes. Chris Oliver. Yes. Carol Kapotus. Yes. Shannon Jenkins. Yes. John Nunes. Yes. Thank you very much. Good night. Good job. Yeah. Very good job, Kathleen. Good job. Uh oh. How do I get out of meeting? [Music]
I'm fine Thank You president Kaler okay great any um nothing okay all those in favor of consent aye aye motion carries 4-0 now we're moving on to our action and information items you all received our monthly financial report are there any questions or dr. Thomason or miss Martin's that no okay oh I did want to say on consent can I go back mrs. good isn't here but I just wanted to say welcome to our new assistant superintendent for our secondary normally in the situation he would probably be here and we would introduce him I cannot pronounce his last name mrs. Martin's can you but we're so happy he's coming I was gonna say we're happy to have the executive director secondary education come David I am NOT going to attempt his last name in this moment either but I know he's thrilled to join our team and looking forward to being part of pigley yes thank you so much I did what I mentioned that and I I forgot so thank you for that so 6.2 this is miss Martin's is gonna give us a little update related to benefits so president Kaler members of the board our community watching viewing streaming I am excited to share with you the thrilling news that our broker our Insurance Committee and I would be dismissed if I didn't mention is about Castillo and Alexis Sanchez and the human resources department who've been working hard in our RFP in regards to all of our medical as well as our voluntary products that we pushed out there and received back in February so after having a lengthy meeting with our broker and the Insurance Committee and reviewing all of the information that had come back from the various vendors we directed our broker to go back and look at United who was our current vendor and see if they could negotiate the initial renewal that they gave us in terms of next year's premium rates and I'm excited to share that they were able to come back with a rate pass and no premium changes for next year which is wonderful so looking at our total components the insurance community felt in terms of the products that were offered staying consistent with the vendors that we have now was the best best solution for our community that our employee community you'll see on there the only increase that we're looking at is our IMed which although 11 percent seems high when you look at the number in terms of actual increase it's cents on the dollar so for an individual employee with that increase were going probably increasing by 20 cents to the monthly premium for that individual employee status so that's something that's great and I will say like I said the Human Resources team our new broker which is hub international and our Assurance community have worked fairly hard and making sure that we do the best we can for our employees so I'm excited to be able to present this information to you today thank you mr.
next we go to roll call board member Rodriguez Pena present board member Cruz Gonzalez here board member Ariana's here present and board member Greer we can't hear him he needs canoes ah yes I'm marking you on mood Adrian I'm Museum yes there is he must have muted himself Hey all right I think we're good okay board member girl you're here right I'm here all righty fantastic okay moving on to see approval of the agenda do I have a motion to approve motion to approve the agenda second I'll second motion by board member ariana.sea kindig by board member Rodriguez Pena let's fill any discussion I would take another question are you able to share the things the screen like we normally do on the wall so people can see what the agenda items are yes mark yeah and there are people that are there people call it there are people calling in that are not muted you're like letting people and they're not needed yeah it looks for some reason the phone folks don't get muted okay so your laundry technical difficulties yes yes okay that's so nice logging I had to log out a month I can to make it work RP okay you know we can hear you don't don't say your password out loud please and I apologize alright Gary I always used to polish everybody for the weight this is all new to us so we're gonna ask some glitches please bear with us and yet approved past five zero and now we are moving on to items from the floor public comment this is an opportunity for the public to address the board on closed session oh no this isn't closed session this opportunity for the public to address the board on agenda and non-agenda items no action can be taken on my agenda items individual speakers may be allowed up to three minutes to address the board on any agenda or not agenda items prior to addressing the board please fill out the request to speak a public comment blue card and submit it to the board secretary and I don't even know what to do right here so just pause for one second I'm going to message everyone okay then if they want to speak if they can click the raise your hand button and then we will add them to the queue okay so let's give folks a couple seconds to raise their hand I see a physical hand being raised let's see I will let I will unmute one person I think mr.
Glover thank you so much well hello Phillip board members and cabinet members I just wanted to it's great I'm glad there's things are not going up but I I still have to marvel and I think we should start as as citizens of this nation we should start speaking up it's amazing we live in a country that separates the eyeballs and the mouths from health care it really should be all part of the total package but that aside I just wanted to to ask miss Martin's I know that it's great that the premiums that we have for our employees who take the Health Care's is really is zero but have was there any more talk about maybe sliding that so that dependents might be a little cheaper are they not interested in doing that because I think we have some young staff and are gonna be having kids and all that stuff it's something to talk about I just want to know where their what the talk is absolutely so um we have been actually actively talking about it the whole time that I've been here how can we be creative in looking at our other premiums because as you may or may not be aware above and beyond just the employee premium for two of our four plans it's considered a buy up and that buy up can be fairly costly and expensive so that's going to be our next focus in regards to now that we've had the RFP we got the information in what can we do globally to look at being able to give some sort of incentive to our employees and that could help in navigating that cost because a number of our employees do only take employee coverage because it is quite expensive in the bigger picture so we're gonna probably have to start thinking about whether or not we want to look at plan design changes or if we're gonna want to look at other changes to then help I don't know what word I want to use right now maybe mitigate some of those other factors in the bigger picture because it's only gonna although we've we've successfully been able to go she ate a know rate increase for next year that's not always going to be the case it's always based on your experience so always educating our employees to to make sure that they're aware of all the resources and what they can do and you know another plug for our benefits team within human resources you know being able to communicate out about the tele dock and you know online prescriptions and doing some of those things as well as things related to workers comp which is different than medical but you know we're seeing an increase of employees not go to emergency rooms so that all impacts what we're doing so the more we educate the more that will help us in terms of our potential premium increases and then be able to have those additional discussions related to what else can we do creative creatively to look at those other costs involved in the bigger picture it's just so hard as you all know you know healthcare is healthcare and it's one of the most expensive things that an employer outside of salaries has to be responsible for and we don't we don't get to dictate that so much that's dictated the onto us in many ways so seeing what we can do is definitely on our radar and we're going to plug more into that over the course of these next few years thank you thank you so much I know mr.
Mayer deals and I don't see anyone else but as soon as he's done I'll look for another one okay thank you your life oh go ahead you have three minutes okay I wanted to speak about the riff layouts that were given to many teachers including myself last couple weeks I know that there's a budget shortfall but I just don't think cutting teachers is the right option I feel like we're spending money on outside consultants and services and putting programs over staff and students I haven't been able to see a list of programs or people that are higher up I know we're moving to a smaller size model but I think we should start restructuring the top instead of with the students and with the staff and needs to be more accountable and transparent these cuts are gonna have big ramifications as students you're gonna have a harder time getting classes they need and especially with transfers I heard students speak last week about the seniority list thinking that was the problem but I disagree I just think that some of the older teachers have really put in good work and it's a fair system the problem is the number that's being cut and also that the list is not even being followed just in social science we were told that three positions were being cut and I'm number five on the list yet I was cut and I was told that the cabinet chose that two people under me and the three other teachers are being picked because of special reasons that were unclear specifically at Gladstone our history program is being gutted we have three teachers including myself that were trained to teach AP and we appraised the AP pass rate all three of us are getting removed the three of us have raised over $10,000 in grants for field trips curriculum and other things since we had no resources we came in we bought stuff on teachers pay teacher's uploaded a Google Drive of information but yet we're still being cut all three of us are on-campus coaches and as many other athletic programs have a struggle to keep JV teams or players eligible we have had more success despite our football team and my own girls soccer team improving dramatically from losing seasons to us making the playoffs this year and having a CIF run we're still getting cut as on-campus coaches one value more important thing though is that every athlete for football and girls soccer this year was eligible and that's not something you see with off-campus coaches as much even though they try I specifically had one player who never got above 0.5 last year and then this year she was crying when she told me that she had a 2.5 all year and she scored a goal in our first CIF game losing on campus coaches are really gonna hurt our sports programs throughout the and then we have not able to have consistent coaches we don't have improved facilities and when other teams in our league are actively recruiting when it comes to our kids many teachers on this rift list have helped persuade our kids to come to Saturday school thus bringing more attendance money to the district and we're getting the kids involved but the district is failing is retaining and getting these students to come as new schools our schools around us get more and more people finally I want to address the board that you should not put a rubber stamp on this rift list from the cabinet that has a lot of flaws when I get assignments that have issues I give it back for the students to work on I don't feel like cutting 25 teachers to cover up budget mistakes is the right decision factor like this plan has flaws and it needs to be given back to them to work on and the seniority list needs to be looked at to make sure it's accurate because they made a lot of mistakes and so Oh science so I'm guessing that they've missed made mistakes in other areas they tried to choose which teachers to keep and which ones to get rid of when they're following their own opinions instead of the list that we have there thank you for allowing me to speak thank you for putting your input appreciate it okay who do you have next Helen Emile hello Helen can you hear me guys yes okay good I'm sorry for the for the background noise I'm actually outside good evening madam president board members cabinet superintendent this is just me dropping in to say hello sending strength and prayers your way during this very difficult time I also just want to commend the district administrators staff for the level of communication that we're getting out there being on this end now as a parent and just being informed feeling calm as a parent the parents I have talked to you I know that this is a this is a work in progress but I have to tell you that on this end we really appreciate all the information that's coming through after I saw the little spirit spirit day sock day I had to drop in and say hello and say thank you for putting a smile and on our faces it was something you know in the middle of all this stuff to do something fun and and that's that's pretty much it I miss all of you guys and I hope that everybody's well we stay healthy and we'll do everything we can on our end to keep our students safe in our community and if there's anything that we can do please uh please reach out let me know Thank You Helen it was good to hear from you and appreciate it I agree with all that all right buddy else do we have an another mark I'm looking I don't see any more I actually don't everyone seems to move muted their video almost that is it there there is no more requests for public comment thank you okay so with that we will go to comments and requests by the board so we'll go to remember or throughs Gonzalez sure I will just I will yes I do have a couple comments um one I just I mean I just want to thank all of our staff from the bottom up especially our food service workers and our other work or mot who have done a yeoman's job and making sure that all of our students are being fed as well as all of our on our certificated staff as well aside as well and all the classify just pulling together to make sure that that we're serving our community I know this is all a work in progress and I think some of the some of the things are happening on the fly as we're unexpectedly shifting public education in a matter of days um so I just want to express my appreciation on that so yeah I'll leave it at that okay board member Rodriguez Pena okay good evening everyone I just want to report that um I went to Brockton High School to their open house for the well-being center the center is focused on health and wellness of students it's great that students can go to the center any time during the day if they feel they need to speak to someone or um you or have any questions on anything also we are not only focusing on the education of the students but also on the social and emotional well-being and I think that's very important to look at our students as a whole and I want to thank supervisor Bach larger and the of the fifth District and students from the Xhosa and the medical pathway they introduced all the guest speakers and did a fine job so I want to thank principal mr.
Glover I look at the dental benefits alone there you know they they give between a thousand and fifteen hundred and that's been going on for the last 25 30 years it hasn't the maximums haven't gone up it I understand so thank you for all of that and thank you for your team mrs.
Fernandez and the teacher Miss Ginny Aguirre I also went to Paramount elementary school or kids hearts challenge it was a great it was great or dancing jumping rope playing basketball playing handball and many other activities I want to thank teacher mrs. Cristina Ramirez she was from Mountain you did this for 30 years and students have raised over 51,000 dollars for the American Heart Association within all these years that she's been doing and I want to thank her because she's continuing to do it I noticed the group was bigger but it worked out fine paramount elementary school I want to congratulate them again I went to their ceremony for the distinguished school and there was so much energy in the air you know the parents were there and the students are there and the staff and they were very happy very well-deserved I'm proud of Paramount elementary and want to thank the students staff parents and principal mr.
Martin's so I'm going to move on to 6.3 and I I move that the Governing Board approves the resolution resolution to ratify the payments of benefits through addendums to administrative and material please employment contracts second any questions or concerns on this you're not going to touch it well I just give me a second difficult this addendum up so the resolution I read it and I did talk to dr. Thompson about it and I understand like the second line I'm gonna vote for it but one of the lines says that the governing board has been aware of the addendums and in my case that's only true for the last couple months previous boards did and some of this stuff started in 2013 so it's rectifying something that is is a historical I don't know bumble that that higly that Higley made in the past so it's correcting errors of the past but I really had to have to swallow hard to pass that and say that because we only just found out about it and so we're trying to fix it and so I will vote for it but I just wanted to say my piece and I appreciate you humoring me for that anybody else mrs.
FLOTUS you know way to go homeless I went to Azusa High School the Azusa district choral concert it was a beautiful event students who elementary middle and high school combined a chorus with the chorus they sang and paid many songs they all did a fantastic job and I want to thank the music directors mr. Adams mrs. Grady mrs. Jade Cora Garcia and mrs.
Reese I agree with you that we are aware of it now and it has been going on and like you said we're we're fixing something I think probably all of us have talked to dr. Thomas learn about our concerns with it have expressed we want this fixed and and look forward to this going forward being handled differently so president Kaler members of the board I have talked extensively to mrs. Martin's about it in our HR department and as we move forward for the contracts that come out next year it will be put in the base so there was no confusion on that aspect yes I appreciate my entire board and dr. Thomason and mrs.
Turner and she plays the piano beautifully and again I want to thank and of course I get all this before all this happening like I wasn't running roaming the streets or anything so I want to thank for her leadership in the cabinet MOT the Nutrition Services Secretary's all the custom white and certificate employees parents students we're all working together including board members working together hand in hand to you know during this hard time I know it's really hard but you know gonna get to do it thank you okay board member career hey yeah just you know kind of in in line with all of that you know if a month ago or even just a couple of weeks ago someone would have described that things would be where they are right now I I don't I don't know that any of us you know would have said that we expect it to be where we are necessarily with that being said yeah I'm grateful for everybody that's working all you know from from every at every single level all the way through the district the the essential folks where they're helping to make sure that our students are still fed to make sure that our students are still able to learning that our our employees are still being paid all of these things that are happening that wouldn't be possible without in all-hands-on-deck approach to from those essential folks so we're just we're grateful for you yeah this is uncharted territory that we're in right now decisions are having to be made with you know what information is available at the time and then it only takes five minutes to learn new information where new decisions need to be need to be made and so I'm grateful I I've gotten some great feedback from some folks within the community and and have been able to share that you know that feedback in and so I want to encourage you to keep it coming though though you may not see us as much out you know out and about you know we're still here to please feel free to reach out our way and yeah just grateful for everybody and yeah everyone you all remain in my prayers so great grateful for everything that our community is doing a step up Jerry there we go yeah okay you guys try not to mute yourself because you then you can unmute evening everyone thank you for joining us while you guys are all at home and we're we're here having this first like once-in-a-lifetime I mean this is like the first ever board meeting that we've ever had this way so I would like to thank everybody for joining us thank you for to the cabinet for making this happen when this came about and we what a week and a half ago had to meet to to make this decision coming from Lake oh yes we all came together as a board and we did what was best for the students and our employees and for those employees that are continuing to service our students which some are mot some are nutrition and some are CSEA clerks secretaries and principals thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart you guys are true heroes I want to let you guys know as this is every day evolving into something different I appreciate all the patient understanding and the communication that is coming from our cabinet and delivered to our parents and I thank your parents for being understanding and how in this and presidents event that we're all going through that he that you know the patience and the support that you guys are you know bringing to to the district moving forward I look forward to to decision I look forward to this meeting and look forward to what our district you know we're leading in a way compared to other districts in a lot of things and so I'm very proud of our district what we're able to accomplish and what we continue to how we continue to evolve and we continue to catch up you know with other districts as well so thank you guys so much hello everybody thank you for joining us I would like to first and foremost express my appreciation for the communications and the interactions of every single one of the people who are involved all of our staff employees parents parents are passing things on on Facebook Lee cos throwing it out there and everybody's running with it Linda superintendent Kaminski you have done an outstanding job I know you have been sitting there on video conferences constantly trying to keep as updated as you possibly can thank you to all my fellow board members who are making this so much easier for everybody involved thank you to the cabinet because I know I saw our turtle online handing out food so everybody is helping everybody else out and I have heard wonderful things wonderful things from the community about it and I'm just so proud of how well this has been handled and I it just makes me feel very comfortable to know that it's going to continue to do so in the future so it mysoline opened the Vogel school of Awesomeness as he's an educator he's running it from Iowa in case anybody wants anyway so you know it's those kinds of things those kinds of rallying around everybody we're watching our neighbors and our neighbors are watching out for us and it's just showing this community for what it actually is and how close even though we can get picking each other we make sure everybody is ok too and this district is gonna be wonderful we're all learning new things so that's all I have to say and we'll go to 7.1 comments and reports by state board member cabinet and superintendent do we have our student board member there's two two potential folks that it could be and I believe she's on and so I'm gonna Adam you and student board member can you please speak it's doing for County okay student board member student board member her name is not on the list I tried all the phone numbers of folks that are logged in okay well next time we'll have her all hooked up move forward okay one more is that you student board mother no all right okay so we'll move on to cabinet gentlemen I will start em I'm gonna refer my comments to our kovat 19 update this is me I'm mute Jorge there you go I will also reserve my comments for the kovat 19 update and this is Linda Kaminski I actually want to start also by thanking people because we all know we're in a very very difficult time and aging is correct nobody would have imagined that we were going to be in a situation where so many people are isolated people are in their homes people are in the hospital people are worried about if I sneeze does that mean that I'm you know catching different diets and again during the the challenges that we've all been facing we really have seen people across the board coming up and a special thing for those of us who have been called on to to really be front and center and so the nutrition services people the mot folks the people in HR who are processing information so our employees get paid the people in business who are making sure that our employees get paid and especially I'd like to thank the students who are doing work in a different way that they didn't think and maybe they thought you know online learning was all you know playing games that they might like to play but it's more serious than that and for the parents who are taking care of kids at home that they you know thought would be in school and earned just to help out with that I truly appreciate your support and I also especially want to thank the cabinet Markham retorted drunky oh and Arthur Ortega because them and also Lika wadis because we've been meeting multiple times every day to think about and deal with some of the challenges we're all facing answer questions that people have called in with to make sure that we protect the students rights to a really good strong education and that we work out the details of how that's going to happen which means interfacing with agencies all throughout the United States on a variety different issues and I certainly could never have imagined would be here at nor could I've ever done it alone so thank you so much for all of you who have really been working to help make this work well for the all the larger community for students and parents and families and staff and board members thank you all so I really appreciate we are experimenting with a new way of having board meetings but it seems to be going so far so good and I'm enjoying seeing everybody's face up on the video screen thank you so much to everyone okay with that we'll move on to report action of closed session matters there is nothing to report on closed session so we'll move to item 9.0 general functions 9.1 kovin 19 update so we're going to start with this really just again the thanks to everybody who's helped us deal with this situation and our staff have worked tirelessly to look at how we're providing education and look at how we how we pay people look at how we hire people look at every aspect of what we're doing and say how do we do it differently so that we can honor the requests for these isolation we can honor the request to ensure that there's social distancing and still have an educational system that we can be proud of so a couple things that I want to start with thanks real quick and then I'll turn it over to each of the assistant superintendent to talk about their areas in particular but I really do appreciate the the support that we get from the Azusa Police Department and also the Covina Police Department they had been engaged in planning with us ahead of time on a number of different issues over the years they've always been front and center and as this the reality of schools not being opened for students to be in came closer and closer they were right there with us calling asking what they can do to help and whether it's daily check-ins or weekly teleconferencing it really means a lot to me and I I feel as a system we're very very lucky to be in this community where we have a support of the police department and so I appreciate that very much and with that said I'll turn it over to Jorge if you can talk a little bit about your area please yes absolutely if I may I'd like to start off first by really recognizing the leadership of dr. Kaminsky really her planning for the as possible closure schools started a full week and a half before it became a reality and as I interface with my colleagues throughout the Los Angeles area it was abundantly clear that we were well positioned in a lot of errors to be where we're at today so I really want to speaking from from obsidian and working alongside shoulder to shoulder with with dr.
Martin's making a wrong a right so that's all I'm gonna say about that and I do think moving forward then we will all feel more comfortable with the benefit package so any other questions or concerns all those in favor aye motion carries 4-0 and now I'm going to move on to 6.4 the board I move that the board approved the resolution that why can I say that we're today resolution to ratify the payment of longevity pay for 2017 through 2018 2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 any questions or concerns all those in favor aye motion carries 4-0 and we have one more here 6.5 I move that the board approved the resolution to ratify the payment of Oddity pay for 2017 to 2018 2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 do I need to list those or the administration no okay where Oh for yeah for the 2022 2020 it says 6.5 but then on the recommendation it lists all the other years can we get a clarification on that I think this one is supposed to be the members of the board this is for this year coming up and the the resolution for six points for which was for the previous year's okay you have had I think the recommendation part up there that sentence under recommendation belongs on the previous previous one yeah correct okay does that make sense to everybody that I am approving the administrative addendums for the 2020 - 2021 school year for 6.5 only we're all understanding that correctly that is correct and I'll second that any questions or concerns yes mr. Guber you guys must hate me of well I I'm glad that yeah dr.
Kaminsky really recognized for leadership we are in week two of this this really unique situation and by this point we have transitioned to really have essential staff at our at our district office and also throughout the district recording to to work each day so that we still do have individuals reporting to work but I also want to recognize that many many many employees continue to work remotely and in a variety of different areas has been mentioned not just from the central office but throughout school sites our school leaders are our teachers and our classified employees are continuing to support in whichever way they they can I want to recognize our work with our labor leaders and the support and understanding they've demonstrated throughout this very unique experience I've been really working to all of us have been working to make sure that we are in regular communication with our labor groups and our labor leaders and really hearing their concerns and addressing them as as quickly as reasonably possible and that work will continue as this as this process continues to evolve speaking specifically with regards to human resources we do have employees still working like I mentioned and a variety of different ways and we are still making sure that their employee needs are met whether it's having to do with leaves or having to do with payroll or benefits that continues to to network continues and although we're we are used to working in an office environment I have to really apply the Human Resources team for really adapting to to the new work and really stretching their room abilities and and technology technological skills and now we're meeting regularly as early as 8:00 a.m.
Thomason you said that and I think I don't know how you guys felt but my interactions were always that this should really be in the contract and I'm pleased to hear that you guys are committed to making that as part of the contract and I you know in discussions I've heard people say and and from other school districts well that's just the way we you know we just we just add and we just do that we should not do that and as a board as a school district your salary just like a teacher's salary when you see it that's what you know you're going to be earning there's nothing there's no extra denims none of that stuff I think it's well Mesa Mesa doesn't look too too good about having done that so it's a bad practice I don't care what Mesa does if they do it we should I just think we should not do that so I will vote for this and look forward to those contracts being being part of the contract in the future president Kaler mr.
to really kick off the day with an HR meeting to make sure that we're all we're all focused on the important work of meeting our our employees employees needs we continue to stay very close to all the information that's coming out because this is a highly fluid very very volatile situation as we continue to kind of go day by day and i and i say myst i know we will continue to be responding to these challenges and all the new information but I want to close by saying that it really takes a a strong team and it's a team is made up of many different parts leadership - boards leaders as well as labor and our community and I want to thank everyone for their support and understanding throughout this entire process Thank You Jorge and Marc how about you can you share with us some of the accomplishments and challenges that you face and overcome in business services and nutrition services and mot sure so we can start with physical services so where we're working hard to figure out how to manage everything online so we worked quickly to figure out some of the big obstacles for our employees and a lot of what we do is interact with employees face to face and having them come through the office and something simple as paying people becomes very challenging when you can't meet face to face so we have worked to try and get as many folks as we can to get switched over to direct deposit we've worked to make sure that addresses are correct so that way everyone who doesn't have direct deposit will have a check mail to their home and so they can receive payment as quickly as possible we've established connections with all of our our agencies that we work with to make sure that we have ongoing conversations of how to overcome the hurdle that we're dealing with in maintenance operations and transportation and the team has done an amazing job of making sure that our schools are still and kept up and at the same time going through every single classroom and and cleaning each one so that way when we get back every room has been disinfected so we have we just completed that project so that way whenever when all the kids come back the the rooms will be indeed cleaned and there's no potential for or anyone to get sick and then I save nutrition services for last because really right now they are on the on the front line making sure that our community continues to be fed we have served last week and almost 19,000 meals and this week so far 8500 500 meals and that was just in one day from a very very small group of our nutrition service staff working hard to make sure that our community is fed our our maintenance and grounds folks helping them to get set up each day and ready to serve our administrators out there helping any way that they can so it's really been a great team effort and folks are have been really really keen players to make sure that we're working together thinking through issues that we've never thought that we would have to face so very proud of all three departments mark can you talk a little bit about the fogging sure so we we wanted to make sure that everyone felt safe when they did return to the to their rooms so we purchased equipment that would allow us to use a cleaner disinfectant that we typically use you know in a spray bottle and a towel but with this equipment it allows us to create a mist or a fog in each one of the rooms you leave it out for about an hour and anything that it lands on you know bacterial virus will be disinfected and so that way when everyone returns there's no worry of you know somebody getting sick again and some of the equipment is really cool and we can continue to use it even once this this pandemic is clear because it'll help us just to keep a cleaner environment and it's a cost-effective way of keeping our schools very clean thank you very much and our total can you fill us in on as we move to a longer period of time with the students not being physically in school we are heading towards phase two of our instructional plan can you show some of the details with us please sure so we are considering this week week one of our Phase two plan this week we deemed our imagined plan create and share week so this week in collaboration with our toeses are a a president and some directors we created the first draft of something that we are calling our distance learning block schedule plan we then took that draft that was created and have been presented in as have been presenting it to cabinet to site administrators into a broader level of directors for some feedback and some input these next couple of days we're gonna be working to add details to this plan and then on Thursday we will be putting this plan in front of our triple-a site reps triple-a stands for academic articulation and advisory it is a teacher group that sends multiple depending on the level reps from the sites we meet on a monthly basis on items around curriculum instruction and assessment so that's one group that we'll be looking at this in addition to that we will be sharing this with our site instructional tech reps and then we will also be sharing this with our sped leadership team reps these three bodies are all made up of teachers and so we'll be sharing this with them on Thursday as kind of a final feedback final input suggestions ideas the plan is that on Friday this plan gets communicated to the entire staff and also the plan is that on Friday to the community we give them a preview of the plan and we also announced that in week two of phase two which is the following week next week we will also begin a plan for distributing technology and so that that is all to happen this week by the end of this week in week two which is the week after that this is we're calling this week two of phase two this is our learn prepare and plan week during this week a teacher will be meeting with administrators much like a format that we are doing now and administrators and even teachers who have who have been able to see this personally and get a good understanding of it will be working with their staff to answer questions you got this on Friday and kind of diving into what this plan is what the expectations are and moving forward what we're going to do next week which is still week two of this phase we also will be launching a virtual conference style for our staff during this virtual conference week there will be opportunities for professional learning on digital tools digital programs there will be extended professional learning or QA around the distance learning block schedule plan there will also be opportunities during this week for support whether that's by grade level or content level and we will also have built-in opportunities for collaboration and planning with and or with Tosa as well this will be next week during next week also on Tuesday and Friday we will be communicating to our community more detailed plans about the distance learning block schedule plan and making that public in terms of what it looks like what to expect how to communicate and and and kind of do that at the same time because this is next week we will be right in the middle of tech distribution and tech getting getting devices into students and families that may want to to have that in their hands we then move into week three of phase two and that is our launch week that is when we go when we go live and we begin implementing this plan as one of the board members alluded to I believe it was mr.
