Thomason said through this whole global pandemic there are no winners everyone's losers on all levels people missing out on their college graduations and you know unfortunately people missing out on funerals and I mean it we are in a horrible time as as people right now and everyone has their own opinion on what's safe and what's not safe and so there are no winners in this whatsoever the governor's to make an announcement today when do we at some point we have to make a decision and a final decision that based on the information we have today this is what we're going to do and we can't say well as of today we're gonna do this but we expect him to make a change in two weeks so we're gonna kind of hold out we we owe it to our kids we owe it to our families and we owe it to our staff to say we're making a decision and it's the best decision we can make for our students for our staff for the safety of our community knowing we're making that decision based on the information we have today I hear with hope I get waiting until today's announcement to kind of see what the governor's um anticipating over the next 30 days but we can't wait 30 days and honestly I don't even think we can wait 14 days because families have to make decisions and especially as we start to return to work parents will no longer be able to work from home if we are going to do something we have to give them time to plan people will be back at work or they're working from home they still have to request time off these are in the middle of the day so what are we looking at for a drop-dead date we will make our final decision of what our graduation looks like president Kaler members of the board we're looking at a drop-dead date as soon as governor Ducey makes the announcement if he says that we can have no groups larger than 50 250 then we have already prepared we're already virtual for our graduation we've already started that process that's the direction we're going the second piece of that is is what will the virtual piece look like so right now we've made the choice that because of groupings of 10 or less it's not safe and prudent to bring kids in and to videotape them going across the stage if that if that loosens up we will make that decision today if he announces today on whether we may bring kids in to have them videotaped and walk across stage I do believe that we will also have to look at the quality of that because putting together 500 separate you know videos is something we would have to look at too so if the quality is not there that's out also quite honestly if we have to put the piece together 500 seperate students walking across the stage and we can't get the sound in quality correct we're going with plan a and that is the virtua with the student's name being read there their picture and their future plans and thank-yous being shown on a PowerPoint type situation with all of our other planned graduation speeches colorguard and then ending at the very end with students after the graduation ceremony those that choose to turn in the turning of the tassel having that as kind of a fun celebration at the end after the ceremony is complete that's where we're at right now today dr.

ruby is shared and other good principles and John have talked about all the different situations that kids could be under we don't know but we also don't want to you know if they're working hard and some kids are they're putting a lot of effort in and they're really working towards and I've gotten a lot of feedback from some students saying they are working hard they appreciate the distance learning we have a lot of kids doing better than they had been doing prior we created an option that would actually allow them to pick for fourth quarter what they wanted would they be getting a traditional grade right so or would they go to a pass no pass or a pass with distinction option and I've detailed in the in the updated Kate minutes you know some information as to how what that looks like and what that does it really it does not penalize anybody depending on the option they choose but it does give them some flexibility within the fourth quarter so they can choose based on those three options that the options of traditional or they can choose the pass pass the distinction or no pass option but then when it comes to the final transcript their transcript is still going to show an overall grade which will be helpful I think across the board it it's it's a nice mix of giving kids options while at the same time still reporting a traditional grade you know would still be would noted on the transcript that in fourth quarter that students have the option for these three possibilities and what each averaged came through but this allows us you know to really have a pretty transparent transcript and a real true representation of what kids can do you know the thing that I wasn't entirely sure of last week at Cape when we met was also percentages I have to change the percentages if we eliminate final exams like we want to do because it's not fair to give a final exam that changes grading percentages across the board so I had to work through that with my team which we did and came up with a suggestion that we have here that were putting forward to you that gives you a balance students do have options what I don't want to do is is force kids into a corner I certainly have as dr.

deed on the map when we reach out to our local elected officials with some of the things that we are doing and some the things we're moving on to the second goal develop and maintain positive collaborative relationships with stakeholders to strengthen support for the Azusa Unified School District and again I want to emphasize that this is not something that only I have been engaged in this is an effort that involves all of you guys as you're out in the community interacting this is something that involves all of our teachers all of our students all over all of our staff members who live within the city who work with who obviously work within the city and who have connections with with our partners some progress in that areas we've created an active presence in the community the attendance and participation at events meetings and community forums and I am I'm not saying that this was not something that was occurring before I came to the district but I think we have a more robust presence now and we are more organized about the way we are handling these things for the most part gone are the days of you know us showing up in an event and saying oh we didn't know our band was playing here oh we didn't know you know the mariachis were were asked to perform at this event and again that really speaks to the partnership of principals and teachers and directors reaching out to us to say hey we have this thing going on are you going to be there or can you come take photos and then I'm making making sure that our local community partners know who to reach out to if they need somebody for a committee or if they have a question and want district involvement there there had previously been no centralized system or places for a quick or place for questions like that to go and now that we have a communications office you know those those requests can come through us and then we can filter them out to the person or the people who are best that role within the community we've also used social media as a tool to gauge parental parental community concerns track trends and track trends so I'm sure most of you guys are aware that as use it has some pretty robust Facebook forums and so those have been a good way for us to make me see concerns that people are afraid of expressing to us directly or maybe a little bit apprehensive of Unionist because I'm a or maybe they just don't know how to reach out or who to reach out to come so we've been actively monitoring different forums and in different community groups to share concerns and then make adjustments accordingly and those things have been just another helpful tool in our tool belt as we work to make sure that we are engaging our community and that we are meeting them where they are and not asking them to rise to wherever it is that we are at we have built and maintained a bigger than meeting schedule with community leaders such as the city manager the Chiefs of Police APU community relations and homework health stuff that's not a comprehensive list and I would hope that that list would continue to grow that we would continue to have regular meetings with our partners who do a lot for us in that and that we can continue to find ways to reciprocate I have a question yes yes going back to district support and maintaining those collaborative little relationships one of the things that I that I did not hear right now but by the way I really appreciate your presence on Facebook and Twitter and snap not snapchat no the Instagram that's what it's called Instagram I really appreciate and how you respond back to questions that you know people have and stuff I really appreciate that but one thing that I did not hear you talk about right now is Parks and Recreation our city parks and recreation and one of the things that I know that they've had is you know trying to get on the peach jar there's they've had a really hard time to to try to get that and so one of the things that they had offered I know before was you know we'll go ahead and continue doing the Flyers Sousa unified you don't need to pay for them we will still pay for them just long as its physical and the district had said no so can we think of a you know an idea of how we can assist these programs because these programs through parks and recreation the city it benefits our students you know it makes makes them some of them are on our campuses and they are not I've heard some of the parents say oh well I didn't know about this or I you know I I didn't know we didn't get the flyer like we usually do so could you please share how we can go ahead and collaborate with Parks and Recreation with the city in that aspect yeah so I actually have a really good relationship with Mickey and we we worked through some of the issues that they were having with accessing Peecher so one of the things that we figured out was the they had an account through peach jar but it was set up incorrectly so when they were sending fliers they were actually not connecting with our schools they were connecting somewhere else so one of the one of the misconceptions to about peach jar is that community organizations have to pay to advertise and that is not necessarily true so we worked out a deal with peach jar for our account where we are given a certain number of credits and credits are what allow community organizations to submit fliers so with like these use a city library with homework house with I know I still to Adrian's wife about my third place I'm not I'm not clear on whether or not they got there it kind of up and running it but with all of these community partners they have three accounts that we put credits on and that allows them to submit their fliers so when the heck yes I'm sorry I didn't hear you say the what it's at the Raiders the football team and chair and also the is that the National Little League yeah so this is not a comprehensive list those were just the ones that rocked up on my head okay any community partner can set up a free account to send Flyers if they need help with setting up that account they can reach out to me I'm happy to help facilitate that rpi representative is awesome she's very hands-on anytime that we've had an issue arise with the community partner maybe incorrectly setting up an account because sometimes it get a little bit into the weeds she's she can go in there and she can help reset reset their account it does take about a 24 hour period for the account to activate so if an organization wants you said wants to send a flier I would encourage them to start the process a couple of days ahead of time just to make sure that their account is activated and do we have that somewhere where they can like you know not everyone's watching this video right now do we have somewhere on our website where it's where it states that to reach out to you they would like to go ahead and participate and impeached our yeah under and the communications side of the website the instructions are on there and the phone that's on there actually I believe it goes directly to Arkansas isn't it I can double-check that but mine here and then our Peachtree our contact is is on there as well and if you know I'm sorry go ahead and what are the possibilities to of not just doing peach jera but also being able to promote their you know the programs that are that can be accessible to our students through our Facebook or Instagram and our Twitter could that be a possibility I think it's definitely something that we could probably have a further discussion about we probably need to make a policy surrounding we could get a little bit into the weeds of constantly having a lineup of external things to share and that overriding our internal successes that we would like to share our internal information that we'd like to share so I see that as the possibility with a certain amount of balance to it and parameters do it I think that's definitely an item for discussion for sure okay I'm writing that down thank you I can speak it to just you know we're and being somebody wearing multiple hats yeah the the PCR process for a community organization you know for my place it was relatively easy yeah you were you were definitely helpful Lika so thank you and prompt in the response and so we were able to get that process signed up one point of clarification that I think we ran into and it's something to consider for Parks and Rec and maybe you can bring clarity on this it's my understanding that for community organizations and/or nonprofit organizations you have the ability to promote you know activities and services but they have to be free of charge and so if if Parks and Rec for example are promoting I I wonder how does this work if they're promoting something and there's a fifteen dollar charge to be a part of you know the the park soccer team or you know a football team or something are they then not able to share out because maybe that's where some of the confusion comes around but the process of getting on boarded was it was relatively straightforward and simple thanks to your help that is and that is where the credits come in so I am glad to have the opportunity to clarify this so as a community organization might their place can submit one free flyer per month just in in general beyond that when you submit a flyer that is where when I add credits to the my third-place account every time you guys submit a flyer beyond that one free-fire per month no matter what the flyer content is it'll just subtract from the credits that are on your account so essentially peach jar just thinks that the organization is paying for the account but they're not the credits artist credits that we have that we can give to our close community partners and and just to clarify also there's not an unlimited amount of credit so we try to be very judicious about how we spread those around but we have not yet come to a point where we've run out of credits to give to people during a period of time so when you give the credits do the organizations need to be nonprofit or what is what is the guidelines so the guidelines are created essentially by us and what we have done so far has done only as use of community organizations or organizations that have a close partnership with the district or extreme benefit to our students so like Kumon tutoring center is not a an institution that we would give our free credits to if they want to advertise your peach jar they can go through the public peach tart process and pay for their own credits but things like might at third place homework cows Parks and Rec was in the city library those are the organizations that we would give credits to and then moving moving forward on this point with developing and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with stakeholders one of the things that we did pre Cove in nineteen and when I say freak over nineteen I mean like the week before everything shut down was we had sent out a mailer and on that mailer was a QR code for community members to receiving it to sign up for an email news list distribution because our plan was to start our community email newsletter unfortunately with Cova 19 I think that kind of fell by the wayside and you know people probably weren't paying too much attention to the mail that was coming in and so we have had a limited amount of signups to come in for our email list that doesn't mean that that's where it ends that just means that once things go back to a more normal mode of operation we will again continue with our I pushed the mailer was pushed for phase one I guess of the push for signups for our email newsletter we have some people that we are of course automatically opting in like our local elected officials and our city partners and things like that I miss so this item would probably be on the back burner for us just for a little bit until things settle down and we all have them work we all have more capacity to operate on a more normal level than we are right now and this code be put up on the website it will be eventually I think right now it was the atmosphere and there's probably things that are more important that we that we communicate but I think maybe you know within the next month or so we'll be ready to kind of get back to a level of somewhat more normal communications and we can work on again putting it out on the websites and then out to parents potentially doing another mailer depending on what what our financial situation looks like we're not giving up on his push at all this is definitely something that's on the forefront for us but again we're just all being very cognizant I think of how burdened or unburden people are feeling right now we don't want to add another thing you know to their to their to-do list because I think right now signing up for another external newsletter would probably low on people's query list and I completely get that so I want to want to respect that saluting on to next one that's on that media utilization to maximize awareness and support for AOS these goals programs in schools when I say media I want to clarify to mean this is all forms of media I'm not just talking about digital media it also includes print media so some other things that we have done is we've really worked on and integrating our social media feeds for the district in schools with our school home pages and with the apps so we have some people who probably don't have a Facebook account and then you won't ever navigate to the Facebook website but they will go to the school website so we made sure to have a prominent placement of all of our school social media accounts almost full website for ease of access for parents who may not be super familiar with social media and then we we've continually updated the asd website to meet new web accessibility guidelines for school districts so this is this is a big one because the the accessibility guidelines for web sites are consistently changing and this is an area that is a particularly important not just for aost but for school for schools in general and so we want to make sure that we are in compliance so that you know people who may need to use screen readers can access all of the content on our website the process is it's time-consuming but it's one that is important and it's one that we are happy to spend the time on to make sure that we are in compliance where we need to be in compliance with one of the one of the good things about what compliance is that when we do switch to our new web platform 90% of that work is built into the platform so it will be done for us which will alleviate a lot of the burden for Sam and I we've also created an insight a USD video series on YouTube our production has somewhat been halted since we you know can't necessarily go too right now and take photos and videos but we'll start again afresh once we're back in our brick and mortar and again those the videos on YouTube are not just how us on YouTube those are things that can be shared on all of our social media sites and on our website for our community moving forward as I mentioned we are we were working on pre covin 19 I'm a redesign of our aost websites that is still in progress but again it's one of the things that is better done in office and since we are not in office right now we don't necessarily have the tools that we need or the technology that we need to be working on that so our rollout will be slightly delayed but it's still in progress I'm still really excited about about the switch we're going to continue to learn and utilize the features on our digital marquees for exposure or ause programs and successes so I knew what member Rodriguez Pena had had some suggestions that we talked about about highlighting programs at each SLOS and so and we will continue to move forward with things like that and then we also want to work on a system again this was a suggestion by or member Rodriguez Pena to assist them to deliver our printed newsletter when we get around to doing our digital newsletter to key city locations such as the library City Hall rec center and the Senior Center because we do want to become as an of the fact that there are people who would prefer a paper copy of things we want to make sure that that's accessible not we're taking it to that we're taking it to our casters as I remember put it so again this was one of the things that we had started right before koba 19th and once we get back to more normal operations will continue with that that push moving on to two media relations this one is I think one that's particular particular importance and one that we've again had some success in with our local and national news box that we've had so within the communications office we've developed kind of a monitoring system using some free tools that Google has so that any time an AAC school is mentioned with the news we receive an alert within for hours it's not only much quicker than that but just so we know if there's something mentioned about us in the news that we didn't necessarily put out there but somebody else is is commenting about us we can keep tabs on on what those what those trends are and then we've maintained relationships with reporters who have covered positive stories within the district so this includes our PBS contacts now who came to us for insight California education our Fox 11 and Good Morning America context and that's not to say that these contacts will grab hold of everything that we throw their way but it's just a good tool for us to have in our pocket so when we do have successes that we want to share on on that level and we have a wider variety of people to outreach to in a wider variety of people to share these things with and again moving forward we'll continue to pursue opportunities both on the local and the national level and we'll continue to share our news and our successes with our with our partners and again that's not to say that every press release we send out will be published but just keeping our names at the forefront of these reporters minds is a good habit for us to have and then we'll continue to use social media as a platform to engage our media partners because that's one of the primary ways that they that they find news and they look through social media feeds to see to see what's trending unique excuse me yes get your over contact mark from The Herald I did yes I've sent him a couple of things but again I think sometimes you know they have to pick and choose what it is but that they're publishing but yes I did I told them that you you gave me a business card he was happy - happy - yeah and then just briefly on this last one achieving coordinated communications both internally and externally regarding safety issues in crisis management a big win for us here this year was having implemented and utilized blackboard as a way to communicate when there are emergencies so the district had not previously utilized blackboard in this way but what we did was we separated out context for staff at each site so say you're at Dalton and Dalton happens to be in a lockdown we have the ability from the dist to send a text message to adults and staff advising them that they are on lockdown we had a real-world example when the district went on lockdown and we were able to send a text message to district employees telling them and if you are not at the district office you know saying where you're at we're in lockdown if you are in the district office please PLEASE lockdown I'm not I'm not saying that that system is perfect there are still as we went through the real-life situation at the district office we realize there are you know people who have multiple work sites and so you know maybe they are not at the district office all the time or maybe they're at the district office and in Dalton so we're working with our blackboard contacts to figure out how we can assign people to more than one site so that they are notified of an emergency at any site that they may have occasion to to be at and again these are these are processes that will continue to develop but I think that was a big win for us in terms of the safety of our our staff and students so switching gears just just a little bit to briefly touch on some koban 19 things I think that there are a lot of lessons that we will be able to implement a lot of lessons learned I think we've had some some great success when it comes to the communications methods that we've employed and especially our engagement from the community but I think this really has done a lot to - at least in my mind you know shape how we communicate going forward and learning the ways that parents prefer to be communicated with cuz I can look back at our reports and I can see you know more people access to app then access their email writing people more people access text message than they do all calls I can look and I can see you know who's blocked us and what maybe some of the barriers are with communication so I I think that while this has been a challenging situation for for all of us I think coming out of the other end we'll be able to analyze some of the things that we've learned and use it to better shape our communications moving forward I think that's my last night when I tell you that I really think your presentation I'm call your first presentation and all the things that you said you were gonna do well it seems like you're sitting you're golden I really appreciate it's really good thank you I'd like to say that the compliments that I've had on the communication that we have been giving leaps and bounds it's it is so amazing you Lord you all were doing a great job thank you and I also actually just to throw one more thing in there many of you have met Sam Carleton who also works in the Communications Office he was hired shortly after I was hired and I I don't want to forget to mention his position he has done a lot to elevate the district's image within the district so one of the things that I was able to do coming in was rewrite the job description for that position so previously that position had been primarily administrative but that that after I had been in the position for a while I knew that that was not what I needed personally and that was humpin district needed we had been spending some funding on graphic design and so my opinion was that the district would be very well served by hiring somebody who had some graphic design skills and Sam fit the bill 100% he's done a great job with again I say we jokingly say in making things pretty but it's much more than that because the publications that we put out our letterhead our website the appearance of our logo all of that speaks volumes about about our professionalism as a district and I need to give Sam a huge pat on the back for doing a lot to elevate the professional look of the district with his graphic design skills thank you okay I have a couple a couple quick questions so one I took notes as you were sharing like us so one of the things you said wise we only share our newsletter with azusa addresses it is are you saying literally 9/11 702 are those within the Azusa School District jurisdiction those within the school district jurisdiction okay actually you answered that already and then one other one other thing you said that we maintain relations with people who post positive stories does that mean we don't maintain relationships with people who don't possible pose positive stories you just about how do we engage that how do we how do we get around you know get ahead of yeah I mean I would say that we we engage them in in the same way that we do people who post positive stories there again I mean you guys are probably pretty well aware especially at this point that media is always split there's always an extremely positive reaction and an extremely negative reaction and the truth is always somewhere in between so I am NOT I I do not think it is a good practice to ignore any media partners or any community members whether or not their opinion of us is favorable or unfavorable but my personal goal for people who have an unfavorable opinion is to win them over and that takes that takes time and that takes effort and I won't say that opinions of us will change overnight but I think that the more work that we put into showing our good side and the the more we treat people with grace even if their opinion of us is not very gracious that speaks volumes about our character and how we operate as a district and I think eventually that that works as often people towards us like Jerry said I like what you when you respond to Facebook either it's negative or positive what you have an answer or you have a clarification you understand and in there you know they thank you later or you know okay I get it kind of a thing right so that's really good yeah okay shield me you want to just say something yeah my muted let me see okay you hear me yeah okay um yeah so just a couple things and before I ask my questions or my comments I just wanted to premise and say this is a very it was a good it was just a wonderful presentation it gives me a very clear overview of the work and promise you have been able to make um this year especially around aligning our communication strategies expanding our external communications piece and so I said I said I want to really appreciate that and I think that especially we've seen it very clearly with the community building you your team has been able to build under Kovan 19 so that being said I do it and I always want us to continue to be better at everything so I just do have a couple questions and the first one is really around so I think clearly we've been able to build as a group we've been able to build a sense of community on social media right now under clover 19 so I'm just wondering how you're thinking about and it doesn't have to be I mean if you have thoughts now maybe or later how are we thinking about capitalizing on that creation of this feeling of community that we now have and closest and connectedness with our with our constituent with our not only our families but even maybe a broader base like however we're going to capitalize on that so once we go back to let's say traditional school how are we going to continue fostering that feeling of community that you've now created so this is something yeah I have thought about it I won't say that I've come to you know and solidified we're going to do XY and Z but I think one of the one of the reasons why our engagement has increased so much as that there is a new level of trust that our community has in us and so I think that that will help them to continue to want to be engaged with us and not to say that that trust wasn't there before but it is more evident now on both our side and their side that we are in this together as a partnership and hopefully after all over this end that partnership will be strong enough to continue I think that there are definitely methods that we have employed such as like that you know the virtual spirit week things where were asking for interaction and then also responding and engaging that we had not done to the extent that we are now that we can continue to do because our community likes that you know before our thought was we would not want to like burden anybody with communication or with requests or things like that but this has been one of the primary ways that that they're responding to us I mean I'll you know get up in the morning and I'll look at the Facebook notifications and we easily have 200 notifications you know in the morning and then again I clear them all out and in the afternoon we have 200 200 more and so I see that speaks to our continued responsiveness but then also just the trust in the reciprocal relationship that's been built as we're all trying to figure figure this out so I mean they're definitely things like I said that we can get to continue to think about and I I'm not gonna say that with Ivan I arrived at a you know we're gonna do these definitive things but I agree with you that this is something that we want that we have captured and now we want to keep and so it's important that we figure out how we do that great great that's a great idea and that's I mean that's awesome so then my second question is really more about amplification right so I think I think and you sort of reference this because you said made a point about you know what it's not just us the two of us doing all this work right and so I'm just curious to see as now that you've been putting in the bones and really trained you know trying to include more people how can we plan to have everyone in our district whether it's site administrators certificated classified employees feel like they're part of our messaging team and really like they everyone is part of our communication strategy so not only feeling that but also giving them the tools and training so that people feel comfortable sharing whether it's on social media you know especially on social media I think that one of the things that we can do is as I mentioned before we we have worked with a team of administrators and principals to get them feeling semi Kumble or somewhat comfortable posting on social media and we can implement that same thing on many other levels it was a little bit of a process to kind of figure out like you know how to implement that training how to get people on board but I think at this point we have our system you know pretty well our system of support pretty well established with Sam and I and that is something that is not exclusive to one group of people like it can easily be opened up to a wide variety of people within the district all right great thank you and then my last question I may not be actually directed at you maybe it's directed at Linda but I think that what we've imeem this is just my personal observation I I would I would I think I feel like I've seen is very it's somewhat uneven implementation in terms of how do we how do we communicate in a way that conveys our values of transparency and collaboration across all of our communicate and I'll just use the example that we just had today right so today now the board has spent at least 20 minutes if not longer discussing the poor the poor phrasing of a presentation right and so how can we make sure from the top to the bottom and bottom up that the messages that we're pushing out whether it's the board presentation or messages to our staff or families are aligned to the values that we espouse and to make sure that we are using using I would say that's practices when it comes to communication narrative those kinds of things so I'm just wondering and so and maybe like I don't want a controlled position Lisa I'm not sure this is answer for question for you but I do think I want us to this may be a rhetorical question I wanted to think about how can we improve the areas where we see that unevenness so I again I think it's probably one of those things that would require an answer from from more than one person but I definitely think that there are probably some maybe I don't know guidelines is the correct word but maybe best practices there are some best practices that we as a communications office can put together to share with everybody to think about when you're making a public presentation please consider you know these factors please and I again I I think that I speak for for all of us for members you know cabinet staff teachers it's never our intention to to not be transparent but I really think that we need to have a probably more critical lens when we're preparing these things and when we're looking at these things because people don't come at it with a background knowledge that we have and so well well we may post something knowing the background information we have to constantly be aware of the fact that on the other end the public does not have the same information and it's not that we're intentionally trying to keep anything it's not that we're you know intentionally trying to to mislead anybody it's just that it takes a hundred percent extra effort to make sure that we are yeah that we're making sure that people have the the background that we have on things that we're doing our best effort to communicate that that background so I definitely think that there are best practices that I can put together to share with everybody I maybe we can use that as a building block moving forward for for that for transparency within the district I would yeah that's looks really great and I would just add you know even maybe think about training so some people are just naturally those type of communicators some are not I can speak for myself I know that I'm not but I've had significant training around messaging and that you know and I can see just personally right the changes that I've been able to come to do because of the kind of training that I've received all right thank you that was it for me all right any other questions anybody else okay we'll move on to 10.49 2019 to 2020 local control and accountability plan El Cap update hello good evening can everybody hear me yeah okay terrific president Bibles vocal board members dr.

McCord I also wanted to let everyone know that Pat Donahue is online as well so if there are any questions regarding any of the details on the monthly budget report the three of us are available and willing to answer your questions so at this point in time I'm going to go ahead and share my screen so that you can all see the contents associated with the monthly budget report okay so here we go so this is our March 2020 monthly financial report so this represents data through March 31st of 2020 so we are a month in arrears again as I shared last time the monthly reports are meant to show you changes that have occurred month over month so I'm going to begin with the very first page these are the financial highlights that we've begun to provide to you indicating the most notable changes that have occurred since the February report so the the other thing I wanted to point out is again the March financials do reflect the pending revised budget number two a budget that is expected to be to you next Tuesday night for approval as the final revised budget is due by May 15 so under our operating budgets we are noting the changes in maintenance and operations as well as unrestricted capital so in maintenance and operations are available balance decreased by approximately 1.4 million dollars due to insurance liability expenditures so we have continued we have started a process in which we are pre paying insurance liability against the very high deductible so we we were obligated to contribute an additional 400 thousand dollars to that prepay in addition there was a small increase in general supplies of $300,000 and then a small increase in salary and benefits of three hundred thousand dollars it's important to note at this point in time that the deadline for unrestricted capital and understated capital was April 13th I believe and then the deadline for spend out of maintenance and operations is April thirtieth and we will provide that information to you in next year's report I mean next month's report excuse me in unrestricted capital the available balance decreased by approximately $800,000 so during the last probably the january/february time began allocating out additional capital resources to our schools and they have done a fair amount of due diligence in spending those monies so as an example they've spent about $100,000 on library books about two hundred and twenty thousand dollars on technology supplies and then about a hundred and seventy thousand dollars on furniture and equipment in addition we did make an athletic equipment allocation to assist all of our high schools and junior High's in catching up with some of their instructional supplies associated with athletics so that was an increase of two hundred and thirty thousand dollars and finally transportation made a safety camera equipment purchase of about a hundred thousand dollars so that accounts for the $1,000 increase and then finally the bond fund available balance decreased by approximately four hundred thousand dollars due to school upgrade projects so before I move on from any of these are there any specific questions that that I can address from any of you okay I'm just gonna go ahead and show the details of a couple of the reports so the next slide this is Beth's can I just ask a question on the previous slide I just wanted to point out that this is the first time in my time on the board that we've actually given money to our schools for library books so I am really excited to see that line in our budget so thank you card give a comment no I didn't I did not I might have moved and it looked like I was waving my hand sorry thank you so so looking at the maintenance and operations budget line that's the first line that's highlighted in yellow please note that our budget revision number two again pending is two hundred and thirty nine thousand four sixty seven and some change 239 million excuse me two hundred thirty nine million four hundred sixty seven thousand and some change the year-to-date expended encumbered is two hundred and twenty eight thousand three hundred leaving us a balance of about eleven point two million going through you can see everything's pretty pretty much the same as it was in the prior month but going down to understated capital as I indicated before we have an unexpected available balance of about four point seven million dollars we do expect without available balance to decrease a little bit as spend is continuing through April thirteenth but we will have the final under strict incapable numbers to you when we port the April thirtieth monthly report at the end of May so before I move on are there any questions about this great thank you now I'm gonna go through the detailed reports from here all the way to the end which is where we discussed the bond so these again under the federal grant reports the state grants enterprise funds food service and community edge please note that at least through March 31st the available balance in both of these enterprise funds is still very positive other district funds the detail is there the school-based funds has been stayed pretty much the same and finally I wanted to bring your attention to the bond fund and in particular the Roman numeral two which is in the middle of this particular slide so please note that at the bottom we have facility renewal and general school improvements and we have a total available balance this is as of the end of March 31st again of nine point two million dollars and I'm just sharing this information with you as it relates to the follow-up presentation regarding our summer school project I mean I'm sorry our summer capital projects that will occur starting now basically through the end of August so if there are any further questions I am prepared to answer any of those from any of you or members any questions we'll continue item 4.0 tune dr.

Foley I just wanted to thank you and mr. Tannenbaum since you're sitting here thank you so much for all the work you guys have done like mrs. Reese said the I'm having a zoom call is not easy and to try to figure this all out that way is above and beyond to me and I just I want to thank you and both your teams and dr. Thomason as well and your team because I know that this was not the decision any of us wanted to make we all are sad when we are seeing those decisions being made and I just want to thank you because I know that it has to be heart-wrenching for both of you as well thank you president Kaler mrs. Wilson the rest of the board too we would be remiss if we didn't give a thank you to our community out there that are doing so many things outside of the educational setting the yard signs that we've had out there the the things of adopting a senior the all the plans this has been a huge commitment and thank you to our community outside of the educational setting for some reasons that we cannot do some of the things that are suggested because of social distancing rules because of some insurance constraints and those things so a thank you to our community and everyone who was stepping up to try to do the best we can to make it special for our seniors that is extremely recognized by this cabinet and in this board of all the things that they're doing above and beyond what would normally happen so thank you to our community for that yes thank you dr.

2020-04-29 Western Connecticut Planning Region, CT YouTube / BPS Video transcript source: youtube Special Board of Education Meeting 4/29/2020 @ 5pm · passage 7
baurel said talked to and dr. Ruby talked to other surrounding districts that look at what they're doing then compared to what we have at Brookfield and there is no one-size-fits-all you know it sounds simple from the State Department to come down and say okay you can you can call fail or pass and it's up to you and but each individual school you'll find has their own tweak and version of it because it really has to suit their community and what they do which is why the local Boards of Education are given the opportunity to make you know make the final decision of how this goes so I don't know if there's anything any in particular it is it is pretty complicated I'll be honest there there's a lot of steps that have to happen in terms of waiting and what this is worth and how to calculate in the backend but you know in the conversation with my team the easy way is to go pass or fail but that's not right for kids and you know John's signature it says you know the the I forget exactly what it says all the time ahead I've seen it so most there's so many times but you know it's it's the focus of what we do every day and so I want to give each kid the opportunity to really demonstrate what their what they're doing rather than give them all the same sort of grade one way or the other so that's the that's the proposal I have putting forward today so I'm obviously happy to answer any questions and there's some sample students you can see a typical a student a typical B student what it looks like we round things up and give them different grades and how their averages come out to be and the end and what gets reported so there's some options there but I just want to put that out for you so you can and I'm ready for any questions mark thank you very much I think that the additional chart that you prepared with the the numbers to be able to show folks what the different options impact is on what students transcripts will look like is very very helpful and I appreciate the fact that you took the time to to do that and get it to us so that people could have it to look at so any questions for mark mark is there any difference in terms of AP classes how those will be reflected or factored in yeah it's a really it's a really good question Deb so we made a decision in terms of AP we have AP weighting and part of the board policy that's also connected to what our handbook says is that and student who takes an AP class gets a higher weight than I mean then somebody was in an honors class that's always been the case that will continue to be the case what we have done in the past is that we've we required students to take the AP exam that has always been an expectation if you take the AP test if you take the AP class you have to take the AP test in order to get the AP weighting because what we didn't want was kids taking it get in the weighting and then backing out and just bailing on the test we really wanted kids to focus on the test the challenge this years with so many changes to AP and for those of you that don't know you know Advanced Placement the test is now going to be online it's going to be a 3035 before 30 to 45 minute test it's only free response questions there are no multiple choice it's only 75% of the content that was originally kids were responsible for we just didn't feel comfortable you know forcing every kid into taking that test given the last bit of since the last time we were in place was March 12th so regardless and the conversation has been with the AP teachers they've been teaching at a college level across the board since day one so is that as that at a higher level than an honors class absolutely it is and they've been expected to meet that level of college work so those weights for those grades will count as an AP AP Stat a score so an AP weight so they are waited more than honors definitely so that's still that has not changed okay so I if if there are any other questions we're happy to take them I just wanted to to state thanks for all for the administrators because we have been working on this I don't know what guys like six weeks off and on little the conversations as information was coming out and we in dependable work independently mark and I am his his staff looking at what was coming out from high schools across the country and what was coming out from the colleges to be able to have an informed decision and not just what's everybody else doing or what's the state telling us to do so I think that the care that people took to to come to these recommendations is commendable and I also would like to thank the elementary principals and them and Dean because we really made this child centered and took the family situations and everything into consideration rather than just taking you know the easy way out just like just that everybody at a scale so that's our work and if there are any other questions we're here to answer them okay does anyone else have any questions or any discussion comments okay so seeing none all those in favor aye okay thank you the vote is unanimous and now we can move on on our agenda up next we have the Rose Oh could I just could I just ask one question so our plan was that we will collectively draft a document that can be sent out from the district to parents and I just want to make sure that you're all on board with that yeah that would be great okay thank you up next is the Brookfield high school locker room discussion and possible motion so this is just an action and I'm going to turn it over to joy right now to run through this presentation okay so since our last meeting on April 1st when we first presented the boys high scream locker room presents you several things took place since then I wanted to give you information about so I'm most important the Board of Finance only put 300 thousand dollars back into the capital budget on April 8 there was another Board of Finance meeting Rosa was an attendance and she spoke about the project and how this could affect our accreditation wouldn't he ask I also spoke more in depth about the importance of the project and how it affects our children in the community next morning I reached out to Steve Don and Mark Mulaney to address some suggestions and comments that were made after I spoke with the Board of Finance meeting in the meantime I sent them the presentation that they asked for and started to prepare for a presentation to give them in June and I answered on the immediate questions that they had so both the Board of Finance and Steve Dunn also emphasized that they really valued pulled check owes feedback and insight on the project so they asked me to reach out to him and pull and I did connect I just wanted to quickly summarize what Paul had said he feels that the project needs to be completed it's in its entirety that a piecemeal approach doesn't work and we need to do it right and do it once dori he feels that it doesn't make sense to do it in pieces he actually recommended more fixtures in the exterior restrooms because what we currently have in the plan is certainly not enough Jeff from Tecton also reached out to the state and put in a grant application inquiry I request for like possible reimbursement and unfortunately the feedback was not so favorable I could get into detail about what they said but that's the gist of it we were able to expedite the process and present we'll be presenting tonight at the seven o'clock Board of Finance meetings so that's where we are now I've worked with Eddie from Tecton to make some edits and changes to the PowerPoint presentation that we showed you at our last meeting and the options have not changed but we want to make sure we're you know on the same page and you know at least having unanimous consensus as to where we all stand you know with this project so that's what we're going to do do tonight is present the project one more time and to you know ask you if you have any questions or concerns before we go forward to the Board of Finance and the sort of the motivation behind this really was because there is an opportunity due to the the changes in the budget approval process there is an opportunity to add more funds back into that project and I to be honest I don't really think that the Board of Finance is favorable to funding the entire project as Tecton had presented it but there may be you know considering you know Paul check those advice and everything um you know I I agree it doesn't make sense to do a piecemeal but we need to have that discussion of you know do we wait until the entire project can be funded and that means doing nothing now or do we want to reconvene around maybe some of these small more piecemeal parts of the project because those may be possibilities so I know I would like to I don't know if you want to do the presentation first joy and kind of just look through the options again but I would like to hear sort of from mr.

2020-04-29 Los Angeles County, CA YouTube / Azusa Unified School District transcript source: youtube Azusa Unified School District Board Meeting · passage 7
Kaminsky cabinet members and public I'm very excited to join you this evening to share some information about Azusa Unified's El Cap implementation for this year when we talk about that transparency and sharing what we're doing that's a lot of what we do with our El Cap process here in this unified and I'm also going to take some time to update you on some of the newest information coming out of the governor's office regarding the out cap timelines and requirements given our coded 19 circumstances so it I'm gonna really share three areas with you the first is around the 2019 2020 district annual survey analysis this is the first agenda or the first item attached to your board agenda item this board agenda item and the district annual survey is administered every year and it really allows us to gather information and input that drives the development and revisions of our Elk it provides data that helps us evaluate our current initiatives our processes our schools our departments the survey really is the forum through which all stakeholders our parents our students our staff can be part of the decision-making process in our district it is aligned with our 5l cap goals but it also extends even beyond that as we gather information feedback and input so this year we had five thousand seven hundred and sixty-two respondents to our survey and this is the largest response rate to date and in the report you will find a breakdown of all of those respondents are who the parents were students and staff that kind of is outlined in the beginning of the report that was attached do you want me to present this presents your presentation right there is no slides the attachments are the actual reports yeah so if if somebody wants to address a specific area in one of the reports I'm happy to share that screen okay no there is no slide presentation because of the length that it takes to go through all that okay so in addition to sharing the results from the 1920 surveys there's also at the end of that report kind of a key to there's key takeaways at the it for each goal but there's also a kind of significant year-to-year comparisons that I analyze and include in that report as well and so our survey results are available on our district website in English and Spanish so that all of our stakeholders can see the outcome of the the survey that they participated in and of course it is used then to help us make decisions in various areas so the second document that was attached to tonight's agenda item is our 1920 El Cap April update as you recall a USD reports on El Cap implement a two additional times per year beyond what is required by the state and those are our January update and this April update and this is a real comprehensive report it builds the April update builds upon the information that was shared in January it provides metric updates as applicable for each goal gets expenditure updates for each goal as well as each action and services action and service in our out cap and there are descriptions of the implementation of each action and service for all five of the El Cap goals and so that's another document that was shared with the board is shared with the public is translated in Spanish so that this information is accessible to all of our stakeholders and I will be holding a PAC Plus meeting virtual meeting tomorrow and so these documents have been shared with those members and and they'll have an opportunity to review and and ask questions and again provide their input so those are the two attachments that you received with this item I'm gonna pause for a minute and ask if you have any questions or need clarification on the district annual survey analysis or the April update I do have a request I don't have I don't have any question where you have requests um since since the the all cat meeting tomorrow is going to be electronic and I think like the board can safely say that if they listen and they know us would participate and wouldn't break the Brown Act and could you share could you share that I'll cup link with us so if we have some time we can each like we can drop in and see see what the discussion is yes absolutely I will send that out thank you and it will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 we're learning quickly that being on meetings as you can imagine virtual meetings for long periods of time the 5 hours is probably too much for all of us so it's a one-hour meeting and I will show that link with Kathy who will send it out to you I see Adrienne laughing just some of us are living on Zoo yeah so I also wanted to take some time right now to update you on El Cap happenings last Thursday evening governor Newsom released executive order n 56:20 which addresses the El Cap statute along with some other related legal requirements up until this executive order no changes to the El Cap timelines and requirements had were made because the El Cap is a a statute and it cannot be changed or adjusted by just the California Department of Education so the governor in was able to release that information and today I had an opportunity to sit in with the California Department of Ed officials who oversee elk apps and really get a strong understanding of some of the changes that are going to happen with the out cut because of the coab in 19 school closures and the situations that all districts are involved in so I'm going to share some of those details with you the executive order has postponed the deadline for the El Cap the 2021 El Cap and the budget overview for parents those things go together and this has been postponed until December 15th normally this is presented to you and approved by you in June along with the district's budget so that that El Cap document will be again coming to you December 15th and that is for the 2021 El Cap and the budget overview for parents and just so you know I'd already know this but that December 15th date is is the date of the first interim report for budgets so that is intentionally coupled with that and that's how that date was selected so the document well what what will be required this June then is going to be a non evaluative written report currently CDE is calling it the operations update written report now I don't know if that names gonna change but I thought I would share it with you in case you heard it and this is going to be a written report to the community that outlines the following things first it's going to outline changes to our program offerings and expenditures due to the Cova 19 school closures it will address the impact of our closures on students and families and how we have a district has have addressed the needs that have arisen during this emergency situation the report is also going to give an account of how we specifically continue to address the learning needs of our low-income students are English learners and our students who are in foster care additionally the out we are going to outline how we developed and supported high quality distance learning for our students and then also how we continue to provide mil services to our students during the physical closures of the schools so this will be a written report that will be brought for your approval in June normally when we would bring the next year's El Cap and then we will be required to submit that as a final document to the Los Angeles County of Education for approval then just like with the El Cap we will be required to post that report in English and Spanish on our district website and again that's very similar and it's exactly the process that we do with our El Cap under normal circumstances so you know that we the state had approved in January a new three-year template and we were scheduled to move into a new three-year El Cap cycle and so as part of this executive order that's a new template and the three-year cycle will actually be pushed off one year and will begin and will cover now the years 20 21 22 until the years 20 23 24 and that will be the new three-year term the actual El Cap that will be submitted in December will probably be a revised version of of the template that we've used in the past CDE and and including the legislature have not decided exactly what that will look like so I will keep you updated as necessary on what that will be looking like for the December el cap for the 2021 school year in addition the executive order also waived the requirement that the California school dash board local indicators be approved in conjunction with the El Cap in June that was a new new requirement this year and so that was waived because we won't be bringing that el cap in June as we would and so that requirement will be waived and those local indicators will come to you at a later time as well as any changes that may come down the line regarding the California school dashboard and the accountability indicators for the 2020 California school dashboard those are still in the works so at this point I'd like to ask you if you have any questions if you'd like me to clarify anything around the governor's executive order and okay okay any thank you for your presentation thank you thank you my seeing you you to take care of relaxing okay we will move on to ten point five approve resolution nineteen twenty forty three order of biennial election of the Azusa Unified School District of Los Angeles County California do I have a motion make a motion to approve ten point five a second second that motion okay motion by board member Rodriguez Pena seconded by board member Greer is there any discussion okay let's go ahead and vote a passes 5-0 and now we will move on to approve rest ten point six approve resolution nineteen twenty forty four school board candidate statement do I have a motion to approve ten point six second okay moved by board member Rodriguez Pena seconded by board member Grier is there any discussion alrighty let's go ahead and vote and it passes 5-0 and now we will move on to 11.0 consent calendar all matters listed on the under the consent calendar are considered by the board to be routine and will be enacted by the board in one motion in the format following the last consent calendar agenda item there will be no discussion of these items prior to the time the board staff or the public requests specific items to be discussed if discussion is requested by a board member that item will be removed from the consent calendar and will be considered separately superintendent and staff recommend approval of all consent calendar agenda items so do I have a motion to approve motion to second a motion by board member arianna seconded by board member cruz Gonzales you need discussion okay let's vote and it passes 5-0 and next we will move on to 13.1 Human Resources public hearing on the collective bargaining agreement proposal for negotiation between the California School Board board member Greer anybody wants to discuss okay seeing none uh let's go ahead and vote and it passed 5-0 next we will move on to 13.2 Board of Education adoption of the California School Employees Association chapter 299 CSE a collective bargaining proposals for the 2020 2021 fiscal year negotiations do I have a motion make a motion to approve 13.2 a second okay motioned by board member Rodriguez Pena's seconded by board member Ariana's any discussion all right let's vote NASA's done and now we will move on to ah just ii lost my screen 14-point Oh business and finance 14.1 approval of resolution 1920 45 designation of applicants agent resolution for non state agencies drive emotion I bond like motion second okay motion by board member Cruz Gonzales seconded by board member Greer any discussion hey let's go ahead open can you please so this resolution is gives us the opportunity to apply for aid from cal/osha which would be the emergency aid provided through the feds to cal/osha and this is the beginning process we've already submitted our application to see if we can receive some funding to make up or the revenue loss due the probe in 19 we need to pass a couple of resolutions and this is this is one of them so can I so I can make a comment a request and since it it's connected and it's connected in a way and so along these lines is there at several districts across the state of in passing resolutions I'm asking both at the state and federal level to support a local education with additional dollars and during this crisis so can I ask make a request from staff that you research some of these direct these resolutions and bring back one for us to vote on at the next board meeting absolutely any other comments hey let's vote and it passes 5-0 and then we're going to go to fourteen point two which would be approve the voluntary retirement incentive plan for permanent certificated non-management K through 12 bargaining bargaining unit members you have a motion motion to move this motion to move this okay okay okay motion by board member Ariana's seconded by board member Greer do we have any discussion or questions okay well then I guess we'll just vote and it passes 5-0 and at this point we're concluding the open session at question you go back can you hear me yes I had a question on from what the Sousa City Council voted on yesterday um is there any discussion that we should be taking place Linda for for the yard signs yes yes I'm very excited to see this happening and serchio and I will be coordinating the work that needs to happen to make us come come about we're very very excited about it clarified Linda you said we spoke earlier about this also you said there's no board action necessary for it to move this forward we were able to move forward that's correct what will we be doing so what what was the question I'm sorry the the rest of my question was if money is involved do we not have to approve money if we're gonna go ahead and participate in this do we not have to as a board approve how we're gonna go ahead and pay for this for our students we would approve it the next time the when the item comes on the purchase orders you know the item that we have every time on the board consent calendar it's the purchase orders and Ward's so that's where the item would be listed in there and you know how the costs are going to go so maybe I yeah maybe we can just invite our mayor to come to our next board meeting to thank him okay that also is the Teacher of the Year meeting - all right I agree with my colleague she Nolan Cruz Gonzales that we should invite the mayor as moving forward with this thank you for bringing that up thank you okay so now we're going to go into closed session and everybody have a wonderful evening thank you for attending

McCord did you want to reduce that item and this is Beth yes please here to the 2020 Summer bonding capital project this bets in mr. Dutch I will be presenting information for capital improvements make this summer and laid it to bond so they put together a pretty detailed presentation and I'm excited for you to do it right now as Beth thank you very much I wanted to share with everybody that Albert is next to me so I'm just gonna turn my screen so everyone can see him for a second where we are we are practicing social distancing we're about four feet apart but we are going to show the screen as we go through this presentation to begin I wanted to point out the title of this presentation which is summer capital and broaden practice in all of our discussions Albert and I have have decided that we think it would be most beneficial to you to be able to show all of our capital projects in context to one another regardless of how they're funding how they are funded so in the future as we have additional resources from the school facilities board SFB we will include those SFB projects in these updates to all of you as well so again yes encourage board members to ask questions along the way related to this because some of these are also related to consent agenda items in terms of projects that's correct okay so this is today's report we're gonna start with a capital project summary that represents all of the summer projects that we're expecting to do again through the end of August most of which of course will be done in early August in time for school opening in addition we are breaking down the projects into two main categories mechanical bond projects and these are going to be specific to bond so the mechanical bond projects and the structural bond projects so the reason that we're categorizing these projects in this way is because that is the manner in which albert has organized his work in operations so the mechanical bond projects are managed and and administered by both Albert and David Ayala and the structural bond projects are managed and administered by both Albert and mr.

Thomason dr. Foley and mr. Stanton Baum thank you again I know this has been difficult I too have a senior so my heart has crushed right along with her although at some point she's already checked out so you know every seniors a little bit different some are really holding on to that last hope that there will be a graduation and then there's others that just have already tossed their cap and said I'm done so with that said though I know that there's been a lot of conversations about doing a later graduation sometime in the fall or that is that going to be even an option for us because I know that even ASU the facility is going to be undergoing some type of reconstruction from what I remember so I know people are saying well okay I get that will do this virtual now that's great but are we gonna do something later or I mean there's so many ideas out there and I'm sure you've chewed on them all but like mrs.

Belinda about you know is there something that is an immediate need now that could maybe prevent you from having to make a report to me ask so you know the knee and the knee as visa is a complicated piece certainly and I explained to you know the superintendent you know yesterday and some of the conversation you know so this technically you know one of the one of the things that we got hit on in terms of our report specifically that I have to file a two-year report on is community resources for learning and that has to do necessarily with budget and support and so you know one of the things they talked about was a change in budget and planning so while the board put together a you know a $600,000 and we know those we all know at that point that this was less than what we needed even to do the project at seven hundred thousand I think it came to seven hundred something initially with some of the basic things than one point seven across the board you know they're what I would have to do at this point I wouldn't have to submit a substantive change form because it is do it was due by tomorrow is the last minute and they're still not some official responses yet so I'm not completing a substantive change report all that basically means is that when I do my two-year report in December I will highlight where we are in terms of funding for the particular the boys locker room project you know because realistically it's not going to start right away anyway it's not gonna start by the fall so I'll have to highlight where we are because it's I have to respond to every single recommendation and my two-year report you know like what can happen is that they can ask for additional updates every year traditionally it's a two and a five year report and then your ten year visit that's traditionally how it works if things are going well but I have I have been known in other districts where there's been the two-year report didn't ask for a special three a special for the five - six - seven - just make sure because one of their big pieces was it's great to have a plan and the board has done a great job putting that together the challenge becomes you know when our feet get cut out from underneath us that we have a plan but we can't ever implement it because it keeps changing and you keep knocking things out so they they applaud us the fact that we're planning ahead but then we don't we can't get anything done with it because it keeps getting cut from underneath us so in terms of where we stand for accreditation we wouldn't lose accreditation tomorrow we wouldn't lose accreditation in a year the process involves going on probation I'm warning first and then from warning they go to a probation status and then from probation status you can go to you know loss of accreditation that happens in very extreme cases the idea for warning and then probate it's progressive and you know from that perspective so that people can see and it's officially reported on the Neos website these schools are on probation these schools are on warning so that you know you can use it as a leverage to try to get the support and resources for the kids that that we need so right now there's nothing significant that I would report I would put it in my my 2-year update that's coming in the fall and I'll have more information by that point in time in terms of budget but in terms of what we need I think it's been pretty well laid out and I appreciate the board and the subcommittee facilities subcommittee taking a look at that and really getting behind some things that have been desperately needed for a long time and I just I want to put my appreciation out there and the work that Steve's done as well as Eddie and the rest this facility subcommittee and Dan to really kind of put something forward to try to help our kids because we need it it's it's it's a rough space as those you know that have been there so that's the best thing I can share right now but your two year report is going to be next year yeah my to report is gonna be doing believe it or not in December so it's it's it's a two-year report that's the next step the expectation is I have to respond there's highlighted recommendations that I get that I have to respond to the and the boys locker room is one of those highlighted recommendations and then there's a whole list under each standard of like three or four you know important but at least less important than the original highlighted I have to respond to every single one of those and provide a status report completed in progress not yet addressed and then you have a narrative that goes along with that so that that's that I'll start writing that in the fall and it'll be doing December so if we so if we don't end up achieving increased or even just the same funding that we had planned you would have to in that report you know say I don't know you know that and that's that's the the finesse part of it where I'd have to really you know work in conjunction with with the superintendent the board to talk about wording and what that looks like you know their recommendation was it needs be addressed and you know at that point if we're at not enough funding or there's not enough plans moving forward you know it might be a not yet addressed and then a description as to what what we've what we're dealing with at that point in time if it seems like you know it's moving forward a little better than we can talk about that but right now I probably say you know if it went forward even with a three hundred thousand dollar which is the one that the recommendation that's in there in terms of budget for next year that's less than half of what we need even for the base level project I would put that it's it's not yet not yet been addressed and it's in the process of moving forward so and and if I could if I could just add on that board finance member asked me this morning about exactly what Marc's talking about and I put that in writing in an email response so I have a summary of what I can share that mark just talked through that I can share the one thing I'd like to remind before we get into the presentation the review presentation is that let's not forget and this is very important this is a very special community here in Brookfield and all of us take a lot of pride in it and we are under no false ideas of the economic times we are in and but we're also not forgetting where we've come from but I don't want to forget that certain things were neglected for years and it manifested in 2015 with Brookfield high school high school because of its achievement gap being labeled as a focused high school and what have we done over the last four and a half years it's a nationally it's made it to the net being nationally ranked by US News and World Report and we're very proud of the work of moving up the state rankings and specifically lat moving continuing from last year to this year from 38 to 31st and we're nationally ranked probably of all 24,000 high schools something like 1500 so we are doing great things and we want to continue that Marc often talks about the standard 7 which involves facilities is very difficult because that's standard that many times is out of the educators control is we need the resources to make happen he talked about we can put a plan in place all we want but do we have the resources to take action to make that happen so I just don't want us to forget that these are very serious things and while tomorrow there will not be some immediate need that we will be put on some kind of probationary status this happens over time and usually these these probationary or warnings that probationary status or warnings that schools receive are lagging indicators of work that hadn't been done for years leading up to that particular ranking or deficiency or whatever it might be I just wanted to add that even before we get into the presentation and you know John it'd be important to note that the you know thirteen years ago the 2007 knee ask visit standard seven was the same standard that led to the addition in the science department to that piece because we were deficient in that area and that that was one of the motivators to get things to move forward you know so this is not the first time this community has unfortunately been hit with that expectation of minimum level of performance and you know I'm obviously concerned about it you know I'm hopeful we can find some sort of solution to it but I just want to say that's that happened also thirteen years ago in 2007 so just to keep that up um so joy why don't you walk us through the the options again and so we can maybe have a better conversation and see what we're what we're really looking at yeah I'm just trying to bring it up on my son having trouble sharing my screen maybe Eric can it might be like a permission set yeah I'm having trouble sharing my screen it was it was it was a permission sorry joy go ahead still having trouble usually the host has to did I've um yeah I've given I've given participants permission to do so but I don't want to hold on too much longer so I can pull it up if if that is easier and enjoy so the most important thing that we really wanted to emphasize was the rationale that's one thing that we really left out initially you know the most important thing was it's not just something that benefits student-athletes it benefits the whole school student body and the community it improves our health and PE curriculum and we need to do right by these facilities so that because these are the backbone to the programs and experiences we need and want to provide our students so these first two slides this one in particular really focuses on you know what the u.s.

Steve wells finally at the end I wanted to share a future bond sale recommendation that that we will be bringing to all of you at the end of May so to begin our district wide summary all funds so first of all our total spend is expected to be just over ten million dollars when we look at the other slice of the pie the orange slice of the pie about 1.1 million dollars that is primarily the upgrades that you approved at the last board meeting for for the renovations of our transportation facility building G as well as the bathroom renovations in building B in addition there's a small amount of money in that orange pie from energy rebates so albert regularly receives rebates from SRP due to our continued oversight of our electricity spend and those rebates are applied back in these types of capital projects so directly I think Albert there's sixteen thousand dollars that was allocated to improve the lighting at the Transportation Department is that correct yes so then of course the bund is is just under nine million dollars expected moving forward from from today so to give into some of those details as I shared on the monthly budget report I've highlighted here the 9.2 million dollars available for us to spend remaining in this bond sale recall that in the 2015 authorization we have about eight million dollars available and we do have a new authorization that was approved by the by the community in November of 2019 to the tune of about a hundred million dollars and we'll get into some of those details moving forward so again there's 9.2 million dollars available through the remainder of the the existing sale proceeds so the reason why that's relevant I want to share with you this summer project status so as we get into this what's not clear is how many of these projects that I have shown here have already been encumbered and expended so I really wanted to share these details with you to have an understanding of how much money do we really have left in bond funds to sup so if you look at that blue column there that represents the the amount of money were requesting you to approve tonight the orange bar that represents all the projects that are still in development that will be coming to you probably in the next month and then finally the yellow bar is about 2.4 million dollars and those projects have approved by you and have been encumbered but it has not been reflected on the budget report because they were encumbered in April and finally it's really difficult for you to see on this slide but you can see that there was about sixty eight thousand dollars that has already been encumbered and expended to date so if I send you back to that last slide that sixty-two thousand dollars is part of that one point one six that's encumbered under the renewal so before I go any further are there any questions any of that okay thank you so the next slide is the summary of the summer bond project specific to bond and you can see the very various categories so if you look at the second category the two point three five billion dollars or so central plant HVAC and lighting that represents those mechanical projects that is under the responsibility of Albert and David Ayala all of the other projects are structural projects so that's the just under nine million dollars of spend that we are projecting through the end of the summer in the next slide you see the details of the unrestricted capital and and the energy rebate so you can see the energy rebate dollar amount the sixteen thousand four hundred dollars is coming from the energy rebates that I just described and the remaining dollars will be funded with unrestricted capital any questions on that miss Betts yes can you tell me a little bit about the district office parking lot upgrade what does that have to do with having more parking available for the transportation department particular project is still in development but I don't know if you remember during that but we did due to the status of the the house that was right on the south west side of the district office complex that has been raised and so that's left quite a bit of property available for parking over there and then in addition that there is some small need to upgrade that parking over there and then there may be a need for a small amount of money to be used to restrike the transportation parking lot to to provide more room for the buses that are coming over from our base so in that fifty thousand dollars is is generous we don't expect it will be that much but again you will see more information about that moving forward okay I don't know will we vote on that going forward or is it special it probably will it'll be below the threshold but if that parking lot upgrade is attached to another provider that's doing other work and then the cumulative dollar amount to that vendor would exceed the hundred thousand dollars you may very well see that request okay and the rest of it we already approved last meeting in our last meeting yes you did yep thanks by the way I thought that the chat would work but my screen is fully taken up by their presentation so I don't I can't see the chat window so if you guys could somehow just do it Lord I just did and let me know that you have a question that would be great board members really question continuum is best Thank You dr.

Reese said one of the greatest things they just want to get together and take pictures and maybe have a yearbook signing on our campuses if they get to be reopen just something that the seniors can gather still and do that is that going to be something we talk about or plan or can communicate I don't know president Kaler members the board there have been lots of discussions on that at this time I believe that with students going on missions and going the college out of state and in some going into the military service on that I don't believe bringing them together for a ceremony is going to be able to take place just because people are moving on with her life however I do believe that there has been a huge loss for this this group I would like us to put something together for the future not for a graduation type of ceremony but as you say an opportunity for them to get together I'm thinking more of a prom type situation they've missed out on their senior prom and so if we can take a look at next year or in the future and a summer or maybe for their their 5 University I don't know what it looks like I honestly don't but I do know that the district does have set aside for our graduation that we owe it to these guys to look for something for them to celebrate in the future and we could put that to the side for their celebration at a five-year reunion at a two-year Union next summer maybe if they all come back in two years after their sophomore year or after their missions that we'll take a look at something about and that money will be put to the side for them but we'll also work with our student councils senior class to help us make those decisions thank you very much any other questions okay thank you thank you mister Tannenbaum you being here well it's and also as I know piggley's parents are doing some things what are the Williams fields parent are they gonna be doing like an adoptive senior and things so you know we've we've had different parent groups reach out to us and of course we we support them and we've talked to them and we've given ideas of what we find and what they want to do of course we're just trying to provide support some of the family adoptions and those pieces obviously that's going to be more of like the booster clubs that get into that compared to the school providing information you know regarding students and and some of the worries there of who is adopting and how we're we communicating that so from you know from the school setting we're going along with I can speak for us we're doing our best of the nest still we're actually doing recordings each each teacher is doing they're using flipgrid to record a special message to them so we're still holding true with our traditions though they have changed the viewing of them they'll still be there and in our award ceremony as well for our our top seniors and our graduation totals and all of those elements and then the other side of it is you know there is conversations about a dance and what that would look like we have started those those types of conversations they're filled with lots of what-if questions but but we are we are working on it and we are communicating with our different booster groups that are that are trying to run yesterday we had signs being picked up on our campus that you know students and parents ordered as well that's great and I love seeing everything we put out there on social media too it's really important so thank you okay thank you dr.

Center for Disease Control and Prevention and what they say about the importance of health and self safety and wellness and promoting that and our students just go to the next slide please this these are some statistics of the importance of the facilities and who would impact so it's used 245 days a year for the health classes and the athletic program 350 students a day use it and that's not including visitors and that right now currently is overcrowded it's not able to be used its full capacity were restricted of what we can provide as far as fitness and cardio equipment to support the PE and health classes in our curriculum and athletics and there's the Omni asked recommendation the last bullet and next slide when we broke the rationale down into a lot of the areas that we wanted to focus on so the lack of supervision that needs to be improved the pride that we want to instill in our athletes in our student body about how important is of a project for them the transitions of the layout of the physical layout of the locker room making it very challenging to keep the athletic team separate for spacing for the four other teams and officials and also during PE classes it's challenging for an instructional time ok the next slide like we articulated before some of our concerns showers aren't functional only to single-use toilet rooms ventilation is insufficient no physical separation teams will share bathroom the referees have no privacy and it's also used as a town shelter which is really important ok the next slide or just the pictures that we showed again last time the existing lockers in our in poor physical condition the next slide sorry not sure why he keeps bouncing back hold change that here's where we can expand the weight room for able to utilize these areas that currently are not functional a lot of unused spaces that now can be used for storage or expanding in the weight room here's where we would have access to the exterior bathrooms and we talked about earlier we added in here that the does not the lighting can't be accessed assessed by accessed by the elderly or families who needs a changing station here's a water filling station that we got they use for drinking that needs to be renovated to properly serve that purpose here's the area where I was mentioning about the supervision is very problematic and the area where the office is it's not suitable for supervising either classes during the day for PE or health classes or even for student athletes that's a plan existing conditions right now you here's the plan moving forward and then the next slides are after this let's go to the next one Eric we can go into the options that we reviewed and it's no different than what we showed you originally you go to the next side so everything that's colored is the expansion of or so the way is the existing conditions and then the different areas the alternatives that we'll discuss the next slides taking what out next time okay so this is the base work all five alternatives could see the so that the the full scope of the project again is one point three so approved so originally what we had in in the capital plan was six hundred five thousand so that would be seven hundred seventeen thousand eight hundred twenty-four that we would need so that's what all five alternatives option two so this is the base level of the work and alternatives one two and three you can see that colored in red orange yellow so the cost of this work would be one point two approved 6:05 so we would have to come up with six hundred and twelve thousand that's the you'll see alternative 3 is exterior toilet rooms expanding the weight training cardio area okay option three these alternatives one and three and the base so that's taking out the office the extra the yellow so the cost this work is one point one having to come up with five hundred thirty two thousand if the 605 was still in the capital plan option for this is the base and just doing the exterior excess toilet rooms the cost of this work is eight hundred twenty-six thousand four hundred seventy nine and then option 5 is just the base work who know alternatives so the cost of this would be seven hundred six thousand three hundred ninety nine that's doing nothing extra no alternatives just the base work so that's no different than what we presented to you at our last meeting as far as the options are concerned it's the one player is it that approved or is it just in the capital plan yeah actually what's approved is the is half of that this was prior to the Board of Finance taking the 300 turning putting it back three three hundred only in the capital plan there's only three hundred thousand in the capital plan all right as of now yes so what does approve to me so this is before they so originally we had six hundred five thousand approved in the capital plan and has been approved as what I'm asking there they're in the process in the process of a proven plan well they did approve the three hundred thousand but they now I guess because of the budget approval process and their extension of 30 days they're able to change things again so there there's an opportunity to add more back potentially to store it to what we had originally proposed hopefully more but you know this this is that opportunity hopefully and in Bob to answer your question in joy or Rosa just correct me if I'm wrong on this one but the word approved next to the 605 that you have there joy is what the board approved in the capital plan to put forward that's what that means currently oh what we approved yes just to be super clear so I don't know you know what everybody else sort of is thinking I know that when we last had this presented to us we all sort of gathered around the idea that we need to present the full project and we need to push the project forward but at that point you know they had already the Board of Finance had already determined that they were going to reduce what was already an underfunded project so you know I don't think there's a whole lot of favor in I just the doing the 1.3 is just I really think it's out of the question in terms of what they're going to approve so the sort of the question that that were being faced with now is do we continue to push for that full project and that means we're probably not gonna do anything you know this year or next or until we reconvene around you know a simpler version of the project and maybe we can get you know funds for that and roses if I may add having some conversations with mr.

Santa Cruz again the first section of this report is about the mechanical and again these are all bond projects and these include the central plant HVAC with which is heating ventilation and air conditioning I think electrical as well as lighting so as Albert and I were discussing this we thought it would be good for you to see the dollar amounts being spent by school so in this particular slide you can see that we are doing mechanical projects at eight of our sites district-wide most of it is in central plant HVAC you can see primarily does it Ridge High School and Desert Ridge junior high as well as Carroll what Ray Boulder Creek and Ashland ranch in addition to this information we thought well it might be instructive to share with you the age of these facilities so we basically repeated the same graph by showing you the age so what's interesting is that you can see that Carol ray and Boulder Creek as well as Ashland ranch and does it ridge high and junior high they have they were all built in the 2001 to 2009 frame we are now in 2020 so generally speaking in a central plant HVAC equipment has a useful life of 15 to 20 years so what we are right in the range for those replacements to occur the other lighting and electrical is shown there at some of the other older schools so are there any questions on that okay great so I'm now going to hand over the next slide - Albert - Oliver to provide some of the details board members dr.

Cecco and for the public that that is Ewing mr. Chavez the chairman of the municipal ultimately I don't know if we made that clear having some conversations with him and then just thinking back to the elementary school project and when you look at the the cost of that is very scary seeing the millions and millions of millions of dollars for that project we worked with the board Finance and we worked with mrs. Miriam on building a model of how there could be possibly over time a way to afford that and so I wonder if that's something the Board of Finance would be willing to explore that maybe you don't have to approve the full 1.3 million in 1:1 capital improvement plan fiscal year and maybe there's a way to do that over time I don't know the answer to that but I think it's something asking the question how can we afford it immediately putting school all said we can't afford it there's a way we can work together on this and still get the project Specht and bidded properly but finances somehow with bonding and and look at talk to bond council how they might make this work so I just want to put that out everybody's a consideration anybody else 4,000 that they're talking about a bonded capital or a cash capital do you know I don't know believe it's bonded or that's what they would plan to do why would you put forward a bonded project I mean bonded projects you pay for over 20 to 30 years why would you bring forward a bonded project that's funding only a quarter of the project that seems odd to me no and I asked the same question but it was just conversations that were coming up so I'm kind of just putting out the thought process of being creative if there's other ways we can look at this but I understand that Bobby if you're going to borrow it you get paid over twenty or thirty years then just borrow it and do the project okay one way or the other if you was cash capital ie it's a capital item but you're paying for it out of the current year budget I feel very differently you might do a little bit this year might do a little bit next year and you accumulate the money and then you go do the project right because you can only afford so much per year from the taxpayer but if you're going to bond it to me it's true it makes more sense to say call the ball on what you're gonna do and then go do it mm-hmm and if the answer is we want to wait a year because of the timing like what mrs.

McCord so as you see here this is an overview of the central plant HVAC electrical lighting projects that bonnie spoke about so we have multiple facilities the majority of the costs are represented in chiller replacements and lighting we're looking at roughly 2.3 million dollars of projects okay so let me back up one I apologize so there you see the second line down is Augusta Ranch main electrical switch this is a at a cost of a thousand two hundred fifty dollars this switch is the main electrical feed for all utilities on the facility similar to Ashland ranch and if you remember that one we had a catastrophic catastrophic failure emergency failure and that repair was in excess of a hundred thousand dollars and that was due to the steps we had to take to ensure that we we restore power to the facility I'll move over to the next slide which represents represents a switch so there to the left you see the switch so this switch is showing similarities to possible failures as Ashland ranch did so we were trying to be proactive in the sense of getting it repaired rather than dealing with the catastrophic failure at an inopportune time as we did with Ashland similar to this process Highland High School as you see to the right that's the main electrical supply to the the nine portables on the facility and as you can see it's been weathered and the casings deteriorate leaving it for potential again potential catastrophic failure whether it be through weather or in a minute imminent elements such as sprinklers or whatever it may be so again we're trying to be proactive here to get that repaired so we don't face another another large-scale failure we move on to the central plants this is Carol Rea ranch this this kind of gives the current layout similar to three of the three of this facilities Boulder Creek Carol ray and Ashlyn are set up similar to this which has four air-cooled chillers on-site this is the main control interface which again is as it's a data technology that that we are currently having issues with the central plant we are doing the pumps which are the main supply feed to not only the the chiller to the facility for chilled water so it will come as a package for these these repairs we move on to the lighting this was this was an example this is a current example of Highland High School walkway similar to the majority of their walkway lighting in their courtyard areas or the areas they utilize bollard style lighting which is as you can see on the on each on the left and the right there there's truly about six lights there only two are actually functioning in this area excuse me and it's just a inefficient as well as a dated technology that it's obsolete and it's made it hard for repairs and replacements of what that style of light is consists of we also have mesquite high school which is a again is the data technology as well as obsolete the fixtures themselves are hard to replace or repair they come at large costs so what we're doing at both facilities is using a more Universal picture LED fixture that gives it more of a illumination a 360 illumination allowing for additional lighting and we will be doing pole to fixture a complete pole to fix your replacement on these okay before I get into the structural projects are there any questions specific to Albert's details regarding the mechanical projects I I had a question about the lighting with the new lights that we're putting in at Highland and at Mesquite High School is there something in place to help the lighting to be directed downward so that we don't have light pollution in the night sky yes either in and I guess industry terms I don't know if it's the exact term but it's a it's a Snyder a spider mount fixture that's more of a downward illumination rather than a forward or outward illumination so yeah we we do try to respect the the night sky ordinance and in a sense for her light pollution on surrounding neighborhoods thank you thank you mrs.

Reese did you have something I did I just wanted to kind of still piggyback on the meetings and these teachers working from home and doing do meetings and all of our administration and everyone our days have become so much longer that we don't have set work hours anymore and so anyone who might have the opinion that because our teachers are working from home or and you know staff is working from home not they're at home watching Oprah or dr. Phil or sitting on the couch eating bonbons is not the case at all and I want to recognize that scheduled work hours have gone out the window we find that we are working harder and longer these days and I want to thank everyone for that we do recognize that while they may not hear that same message from everybody because of varying opinions and that's okay we do recognize that and dr.

Marion did which was very effective I thought when they did the budgeting if she went and timed out what it what the timing of all the bonding would be showed how it played out over time you know and really analyzed the impact to the town tax rates and I'm not hearing that going on here I think this is a discussion of have you really modeled it out I mean if the answer is no we have to do it right we have to we have to fix this this part of our facility doing it this year doing it next year doing it in phases over two or three years if you step back and look at this over twenty to thirty year window weather which is the bonding window you're moving the aperture about that much it's not moving the equation that much so but if you thought is I'm only gonna ever do three hundred thousand dollars worth of stuff mad starts making a difference so or if the borrowing level is going up too much because we want to keep a triple-a bond rating when we go to the bond market for the schools that's a different consideration but those are financing considerations that I would that's what I prefer to hear us talking about rather than should we you know settle for a half a half a loaf here right because I'm not sure that anything that you show joy in your project these are things that have to get done at some point right think I mean we're only debating do you do it this year do you do it next review that the following year so phasing thing not a not a do you never do it so that would be what I'd I'd really in your presentation I'd say there's no doubt that we have to do this at some point so the question is how do you bite it off and how's the best way to finance it is to me the important question and I think you know that's a question obviously for the Board of Finance but I think what they wanted to know was you know what needs what really needs to be in there immediately so that you know we can report favorably back to any asked when mister Belinda has to do that I I feel like we all agreed that the base project and the the outdoor the access to restrooms from the outdoor which is currently option four is really the non-negotiable right so that just that is eight hundred and twenty six thousand so I guess I'm looking at the options that I'm trying to figure out are there other pieces like when you go from option three to option two I'm gonna say what what if we like could we just take the yellow office space between three and two I was thinking if we had option for with the base plan and the outdoor restrooms could we add the yellow office space without the weight room so then we'd have the better sight lines into the locker room and me but you know we're picking it apart now and you know Debbie and I think we talked a lot of the you know what at the the times I was able to be present for the facility committee meeting and then and then recently really thinking about going to the state for reimbursement and so forth a big part of this that gets lost I think it's I think it's how we may have discussed it very early on in the project is this really helps with the school day physical education health program no and in the weight room is a big part of that we think of the weight length you know we say four seasons of the fourth season it would be the summer and we think about student athletes that use that for for working out but we actually have lifting programs and we try to have cardio programs that would involve that facility in going forward the vision would be to expand the weight room to make it a fitness room and then you'd have all that room for a cardio equipment so it really helps the entire student body with our physical education program so I think that's the piece we need to remind everybody oh I don't need to remind you Debbie I just want to make sure we articulate that yeah you hear that that's really that's the frankly the more important part of the program then athletics comes after that as a you know after-school activities hey Debbie I think two is in in in option two that's an office for the weight room mat the locker room the way that they read the office space takes care of the supervision what piece so I mean honestly I mean if you guys asked me what will be the best option in my eyes I mean is model three cuz other stuff we can kind of deal with that's just that's my opinion I mean obviously I would love model one but taking it down to model three takes care of all of our needs in my opinion I I was just trying to figure out a way because I think the feedback Rosa got from Glenn and Rosa correct me if I'm wrong but I thought your interpretation was that they're just not going to go for like the weight room Yeah right out of the gate so yeah that's all I was trying to problem-solve is I mean there's even an issue with you know it some of this is a communication issue but there there is an issue with you know there's a discrepancy in terms of how much I guess like viability there is behind this proposal I mean I really don't think they see the dire need and I think you know we did you know not a good enough job of communicating that earlier in the budget process but you know where we're at now they're willing to listen and potentially add you know more funds back into their I just don't think they're at the point of of understanding the need for weights and cardio room and so at the moment you know if we you know if if it comes down to it and they're they're being they're trying to you know keep the the mill rate increase as close to zero as possible and you know looking at all of the challenges that we're all facing right now you know I just there's there's a possibility that they don't fund any more than this and then what do we do with I mean I don't think we could do anything with 300,000 I mean what's the point and you know there is no option for that so this is lost topic but it was something I was thinking about a couple weeks ago when this first came up was is there a way to turn this project into some kind of revenue I mean I know some high schools have summer programs obviously if we're utilizing the weight room in the facilities maybe that's it take some of the sting out of this is that I mean that's maybe that's more of a question for Steve you know I don't know you know 100 185 days as a school year you know it's used obviously during the day for physical education classes I'm referring to like summer programs camps our kids will use it in the summer as well and then the gym the gyms are used for basketball camps I mean it could be but it'd be obviously bit based around you know what our teams are utilizing - I mean I don't know what how much money we can generate and we need the locker rooms for those summer camps for those basketball camps oh no no not the locker rooms I thought you're talking about the weight room I don't know what you're gonna use the weight room for that huh or at all as part of a training program let's say it's a bad weather outside outside of the maybe the football team runs a camp I know the football team runs a camp with the poplar kids at adding in park I mean what if there's terrible weather maybe they can do some kind of a demonstration I'm just trying to spit ball here maybe bring some of that number down as far as maybe turning into some sort of revenue outside of you know we we it's a need but then let's see you know there's tons of advantages of having a plus facility that's what that's what all kids actually look for in in going this the colleges is is just you're really good facilities god I would say Mike to that point some of the stuff that currently exists right now and Steve can can probably speak more to this we do have Park and Rec camps that are there throughout the course of the summer as well that use the facilities you know and and rain and things like that you know they do come inside whether it be an outdoor tennis camp we have that happens and people come in and use the locker room and the gym facilities you know so we we have some existing relationships with the town and Park and Rec where they do certainly use the facilities already I know the model for example in Bethel when they they just built a huge tract indoor track facility the public access to that is very limited in terms of what they can actually do I know there's it's a very small amount of revenue I think it's that they certainly are collecting something but it's very limited but I'm saying to try to get something in there but I think I think it'd be challenging given what we already have running in the summer and what our what our current programs are already using I think it would be a challenge but I know what your kind of where you're coming from to try to get something like that joy do you think there's any way we can get estimates from pectin to show how inefficient it would be to spread the project over three years and and show them what happens to the costs if like I'm thinking if there was any way we got approval for six hundred thousand this year then we spend whatever 350,000 next year and three hundred and fifty thousand the year after that to get us to 1.3 million then because we're spreading it out over such a long period of time it's no longer a 1.3 million dollar project now it's a 1.8 million dollar project because we've had to come back three times is there is there any value in trying to look at that and and present it that way joy you're on mute myself yeah sorry about that so I had brought that up with Tecton and Eddie specifically in Jeff and they can kind of do like a phase out approach but obviously it's not fiscally responsible and they said it would be quite an increase year to year stretching it out myself but that would be you know we can present it that way I asked Paul chuckle that took when he said that it would be quite a big increase you know based on his work I don't know he didn't get an exact number on him but that was a question I had when I spoke with him last week when I did ask them several times they weren't able to really pinpoint an exact number it was they said it'd be a challenge to do they could do it but it would it wouldn't be financially you know a smart move I suppose we presented that way did Paul have give any sense for whether he thought the pricing that we have is fair he did he looked over everything and he said that everything looked fair I mean he had some you know a couple minor recommendations but it wasn't anything that was gonna really take the number down if anything he said that he wanted to add more to the exterior bathrooms restrooms because like I got the impression in at least one board a finance meeting that they thought they thought that we could do this project for much less not not not everybody but there were some that seemed to voice that opinion so I you know I just wonder if that's a factor also some members did bring that up yes and Paul said he would speak to that specifically at the meeting tonight to kind of disprove some of those assumptions just I'd like to add just so people know and I think it's important for the public's you know that mr.
