have a flag mr. Solow me me anything no okay okay can we just we can we can let's just do it it's we know it's out there so okay Republic for which it stands one nation liberty and justice for all thank you all right so first order of business is public comment I have not received any more leave you the only thing I would add is that mr. Bester had written us as a committee and had mentioned his concern with using the olsat as an indicator based on its age etc and mr. Hamlin and I concur with much of what mr. Bester said we've actually looked into a couple of years ago doing away with the olsat but it is used in some certain situations it is not a particularly costly tool so it's I would I would say that we've had conversations to begin phasing it out but we are still employing it but his comments are certainly valid and it's something that we have looked into and are taking into consideration okay so I'm hopeful mr.

on us have to bind into last week is all night in Greece if I suppose the food came in and our normal place of storage was buffet so I call this tomorrow Sunday back hit call on a swing that clock place where the body in focus then slide up Margarito and so take care of it Diana be doing this inconvenient time cuz I appreciate building up the smiles on the faces of all repair that twice actually I did package that there was the top of my hat stuff rather have their boundaries and I saw this month we're doing a food drive here staff has been challenged and then if they brings food in then they're entering into a drawing or a free day off and I can't imagine why okay written items I think there's some things having today right yeah and we just did our association today we just gotta so we're gonna have you put that on and I want to read this just as your Burlington Community Schools and the American Heart Association representative for Burlington Community School District it's my privilege to acknowledge and show our appreciation to miss Julie Augustine and the students of Burlington middle school at the Freeman students the purlins elementary school and honorable and endless students at Burlington High School it just goes on to talk a little bit about what they did I could read you the whole thing but I wanted to say a couple of a high points as far as Dean and miss Freeman challenged students to taking one of the three challenges to one either exercise sixty men today to be prepared and rate or each day obviously for physical activity or do a good deed every day and so even those wrong again well-rounded students well-rounded individuals community members positive things for kids to emphasize and then in addition miss Bolan championed an anti babying awareness campaign at the high school teach students about the dangers of they think so again I'm not going to read you the best of that but greatly appreciate those people and the efforts that they put forth to try to help okay administrative reports does it anything that's already reported when I had so dad you're gonna I'm checking on the stream real quick so it's Lindsay Dunne 3000 Kate Lindsay our challenges and everybody's been doing just calling I've we have some kids that might be transitioning on which is even though we get to loosen that's the purpose of the program so that maybe success if that happens if not without a back and that's okay some of that pertains that 80 to more than it is there but we work through all of those we were a hundred percent compliant and everything last year I met Emily challenges staffing boys a continuing challenge I mean we talked about that everyone put in here in terms of you know how many opens do you are now and all of that I will say looking forward to next year right now we don't have a huge number of widgets it's a manageable number now so hopefully I also addressed training hiring a professional development we we front-load some time but sometimes we run out of time at the end of year we have so many mandated trainings and things that we're trying to do it if it's not enough time and that includes those new hire to come on during the year and then we had some teacher licensure issues last year with low one in particular we had one this year two didn't have here the fight we had two last year we were lucky enough to be able to fill free I mean we had opened it up to applicants but it's an in-house movement that worked out in I don't know what this future is going to hold come August but we had some kids of prettiman majors before they got all this time at home and now they've got extra time our routine out of system and so I just think you know that's going to be a challenge but before he had already reactivated two procedures and I think if you take a look it's a personal any questions on my part of the report now I want to I'm going to take a second thing this staff may be the chance to work with in terms of our textile their ability to jump in over the three-month period of time it wasn't just about get the devices ready we found out who our five am teachers I'm gonna tell you the first shift we hit the second shift we had a third shell and the whole thing is if they needed the tech support on whatever ship they were on and it was seven days a week sometimes so we talked about that but that was that's what we need that's where we're all kids were at at that point in time so it wasn't uncommon for me to jump in and say hey can sort of go to sections that you mean someone could adjust that back said let me stay home get paid and they were like hey whatever we need to do we'll do check-in if you've heard about the Emporia bedbug and Roach Fiasco and they were checking in laptops and they were just drop them off and next thing you know they had a bed bugs and roaches inside those laptops we can check that in so people kind of thought we were a little over the top but I wasn't about to take a chance with one of my staff people and so they sat for five days and those bags that we tie it up and then we went into the steam room and we started clean it so these laptops would be as clean as ever they got a coded clean either another claim they'll get one more before we put them on the cart so but the whole thing is I can tell you there were no bedbugs in there overtures the other thing is our administrators throughout this process who have kept supporting us kept kept praising but more importantly during this last process we were freaked out that the two that Tuesday afternoon at about two o'clock we saw a hundred devices out and so it was like the old Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon except we were making the phone calls hey you forgot about this hey we need to see a gotta got it down to 30 laptops and then we turn it over to the enforcement crews Darla won her last we showed up from Joplin today Stacy wins the award for the furthest sent end device which was I where I come from I Oh from that standpoint Matt finished a close second is why me because I didn't tell him hard over so close if you don't think they're competitive you know they are the second thing is you know there's been talk about consistency in the interface and even though you may not have seen it and it is hard if you've got a second grade teacher stick and trained students use and iPads that kids going to look somewhat different than a fifth grade kid that using a laptop than a senior in high school that may be doing some very advanced high pennies and going doing online learning there I mean that that consistency so you know we are we did and kind of right off the bat there were certain things we talked about we talked about using Microsoft teams no Google classroom we talked about using Starly and why as opposed to zoos and I'm not there were a few Sims out there but they weren't school-sponsored zooms from that standpoint we talked about doing spades in YouTube that we've never done before we took the video like we hadn't before word just people could see our kids we took to Facebook groups so that they could see their teachers kids needed that to see that they were there and have that weekly reassurance that coaches did the same thing our YouTube channel took off huge from that standpoint and so we appreciate a lot of people doing that I have a nephew graduated from the best high school was a senior this year and I'll never forget I saw a post for my sister and it said how do you find out if your kid got a scholarship I grabbed before everybody Scott Seiver scholarship this year and they said oh the administration set off that are sent lighters for those that one and that's how and so like right off the bat I'm like well I guess my nephew didn't win a scholarship you know I mean but not only that they didn't recognize those kids and I guess is not that much larger than us and we would recognize every kid that night from that standpoint in addition to all the scholarships which are tremendous when I look here compared to where my nieces and nephews of going to school so the whole thing is different not saying we did we did and so I'm really proud of that for how people stepped up to do those different things we didn't think we'd get a chance to do summer classes summer tech just because of the environment we wanted to do some allen county staff because we had some teachers that were mean that we couldn't really make that work this summer for several different reasons partly is Allen County partly because us some of the things we want to do we are doing 12,000 dollars worth of training and a lot of june/july which is our biggest summer ever Jones trust grants that several of you have been around a few years know about that we vote for technology training we've got 20 staff members that are copying model training on Microsoft to use so they'll be together for a day for six hours they'll work on their own for nine hours and they will set another day where they come back together show and tell and share with them things that they discovered that would be good for the 20 teachers in the group and the teachers had to apply to be part of that so all 22 these features apply we have 20 teachers are going to do a one-day newline training we've got three second-grade teachers that we are expanding the ironman ipad one-to-one model down to the second grade this year and so they're going to go through the copy of training and then we've got our three sixth grade teachers that are going to go through our laptop cadre and then we've got four vocational teachers including two brand new ones that are going to go through that training so twelve $12,600 will be agreed today and so I'm really excited about that we're continuing to pushing and and and develop those models that will work if we find ourselves in some kind of a code bit 20 or whatever it might be okay so that's what got going there our challenges is just to keep doing what we're doing we've got some challenges still with homes that don't have internet access IMed another month and right now our vendors being great to us but you know within a month or two that Tower of David Straits can head out and I'd say we wouldn't bring it back for something like this but remember that was a partnership between all the county these on coffee can and the County Commission they made that partnership work to put that Tyler out there to cook public Internet access from that standpoint I'm working hard with Randall Brown Russell Sookie Brad side Meyer and a couple of vendors we're trying to figure out a way to get a tower there because that's the whole point there so something in that area and there's just not enough to justify the cost basis to go build a tower so we've got to figure out something we've got a couple of ideas we've talked to the Corps of Engineers you're doing some other talk that we really want to get something out there that will serve our kids there at that point in our last area that doesn't have a close level of service to our kids that are counted out the country around the Aliceville area from that same thing we had about 10 families take us up on the t-mobile hotspot and you know t-mobile merged with Sprint so all the sudden their network grew and now they've got pretty much full coverage in the county with the exception of the leave of area and it's not total coverage but it is it is spotty it is pretty solid coverage of the ten t-mobile spots that we had a blast why t-mobile and the reason is we have to provide it the school is involved we have to provide a filter internet service and at that point us I or Verizon didn't have that piece since then both companies but we've got to help families find workers because again even when we're not encoded to you imagine not having that tool in the home for kids in today's environment and so right now we're still sitting fifty percent based on the last survey we did fifteen percent of the families that filled out our brush survey said they still do not have adequate home in back from that standpoint whether it was financially or whether it was you just couldn't get the service there oh that's a big challenge for other questions thank you any other Charlie you wanted up hi Nicole no great here okay we have Clark Simpson on star leave here and I've asked Clark to join us tonight just share some information on the first grade model as well as the baseball softball concession stand project so part I well I guess I'll let you start if anybody has questions you can you and I together can the field these in Clark he comes in is where as a you'll be a star leaf on you means but we talked early in the morning and even late at night sometimes and I really appreciate his service to us on these different projects that we've got going on past and present so Clark you're up the first grade elementary a remodel is rarely any progress construction leaking in the morning they frame they're starting to drive up they're getting all the devices and all the stuff goes above the ceilings and kind of behind the walls is getting roughed in there expecting if all goes well come first in July the casework will show up and if active if that happens that everything hopefully we will fall into place to try to get finishes in and you wrap up essentially the first part of August so that they're ready for the start of school and that's provided you don't have any hiccups with delivery on stuff that's in production right now and really it's I've never heard some we've really quite a bit of additional things that we hadn't perceived they need to do as we get in they've gotten into it remember of items that we found in the building that we brought to the greatest attention we didn't feel comfortable and just ignoring that they were really safety issues for the long term - building there were some items the help will actually help make the building up to trot standards and hopefully alleviate any issues down the drain and I think most all of those I think it happens in address there may be issue to you tonight I not sure what sequence things have come in are there any questions about what's going on at the elementary we just as I said we've had this to change orders because again part of it is because of the age of the building part of its also because of when they do open up the building you can see so much better and I what actually is going on when you take that flashlight up above drop ceiling and you're trying to you know look and see and observe things it's kind of hard when you the type scenario and that's why few abreast about all the change orders as times going on that they're different and just they've been typically have been smaller change order type situations but you know just like for example the one that I think the most recent one is a breaker box that was an overload situation that could have potentially been a very dangerous fire hazard scenario where we had a breaker box it was overloaded that's being taken care of and I appreciate Clark as well as the other guys on site when they see something they just don't look at the plants and just move on they see something if they see it and know that it needs to be taken care of they bring it to our attention to have us to try to address it so anyway we're you know we're just taking care of those those projects again for the long term life and ability so and then tomorrow I'll let you have speak tomorrow you have been over at the battery 13 contractors that could potentially bid on it I've got six that I know are looking at because I spent the afternoon answering questions or at least answering phone calls about stuff on the job so we should hopefully we'll get a pretty good range of bids and they all turn bids in one afternoon there's like I say I've been real pleased with the number of local vendors that are looking at it there's a couple that I thought could maybe Bennet is in general but I I've talked with in the last couple of days and they elected to the action with the idea that they have a better shot at getting the work than trying to do it all themselves and they're only there selecting certain portions of the work which I and I think it's good for me for the folks along the way but it's also good for the district to diversify you all can participate in the project and we do tomorrow I say with the openings we do have well actually Clark's going to be here for us most all the day because we have the elementary education first great wing renovation PDF 9 we have 11:30 and present we're worried pre-construction meeting we're gonna start [Music] because they're high school Hastinapur crush next set to be worked on this summer and then at two o'clock we have any questions we have for something yes questions on baseball softball Western said I need to have more questions obviously as we get this and hopefully it may it may require us to have a special community to get the approval piece so that they can get going and so the park and I will be living well I into because we and tie into a Sunni Jack Turner as things a suit south of the football field where they're pumping the waste to straight to the south that's just me goes to cross stream across me yes yeah because it's your life there is not a server that to the western wall fields and so we're have to go all the way down the cross street to tie Antony sewer and we think at least from opiate and wood dad trying to examine documents that we'll be able to gather and tie in on the north west barn however allows her beds because we know how many fixtures the restroom facilities and the bus barn and there was a chance that we may have to have sighs the civic fund that's out the south side of that building because of the initial fixtures that we're adding now the engineers didn't think it was necessary because you have all the fixtures but you're not you don't have any more people using fixtures than life you had before it's the is by kind of if everybody would flush spills at the same time that creates so so we have a lift station from the bus barn to behind the state to to metro station Straub Street right so this is the one behind the football stadium to the south of the football stadium the one that we have trouble with them ready it's the one that we need to I'm working with Margarito and to try to get it to be automated because basically Margarito board has to go and instead of having like a float for example think in terms of the sub puck a float you know basement water to some public took lightly just ejects the water out away from that of the house that's the same thing that we apply with this this is pump Margarito has to manually operate the pump or does it has to manually operate so we have a septic tank down there that even when the light comes on he has to go mps so we have a home football game for example he goes there and empty he goes there manually pun pushes the not raise the pump twice a night so to speak just to make sure we don't have issues I want that to be manual I want actually I want that to be automated not an animal because heaven forbid it's called when something else and he forgets and we've got a thousand people go to football game and we've got some bad sky so we're working on that and to get that pumped system to automate that so there's no Stewart jewel on the board software no well I think that'd be huge dollars and cents it says they're kind of waiting at me as far as for them right now yeah on that I think that wrote is links road links or you know makes road that runs north and south it would be just to the west of our fenced in area so all the houses out there are all on lagoon is not that well there's north of the road there's so what kind of pipe we have that goes from the bus barn to our second lift station the London then pumps to cross street do we know any of that I am Not sure I'm going to say probably since that was the 1979 once it probably I don't know if this PVC inside well bus horn is 99 3 for the bus one a high school football field was there before the bus so we have the pump behind the football field there you're then come at the same time the bus part was there because that's the this is that a high point that's the only way to get around the buildings that we have to go that way why is this up up right behind instead of before the bus partner and we had to go to cross street why don't we just go straight to cross three Stadium was before the bus barn first he is with him were there bathroom somewhere that we had up there back there behind the stadium see I don't think they were I don't think there were restrooms I don't know if they just used in high school I don't know I know again stadium was first an 89 bus so pad in there because that's why they're going to him to get to cross street that's where the concession shorter and walk to the walk to the school that's what you had to do before the bus learners yeah I wasn't here I'm just curious history you know we have a son we have to lift stations we're lifting from the bus bar - and how much of a bus barn like water for washing the buses and all that and that all go into that same subsystem and go through that all that I would say yes and they do have two restaurants inside the bus farm and then of course you have the restroom facilities by the concession stand as a group we have we have to make that second lift station more functional than having a guy come every two days say two twice a night - turning it on and off I mean that has to be part of our weather we weather no matter what else we do I mean I'm not sure that that I mean lift stations have been automated for a lot longer than so what so with this project in my mind was I do think we'll get automated there because again go via connection from the restroom concessions facility that we are going to build to the bus part and then back from there I want that piece to be upgraded as well in my mind I want that to be looked at to make sure it is fully automated we will need to make sure that we're not relying on somebody to do an MRI Margarito's to repeat downpours terrific but just NCMA they may not be able to be there push up on the started work we're going we're going to make sure we're going to work on that and hopefully that with bike part is foggy now hopefully we get that piece that's built in being part a project you change work but we again might have something if this gets into the more that I imagine the thing and the allowance it's kind of based on here last time where I actually replace a lift station at Wichita County High School and there they have in their basement in their locker rooms they have a list station that was actually buried underneath the floor that was taking out all the waste and all the survival showers math logarithms the we ended up doing last summer and we also replaced a couple of watering years and that was part of that project and our antibiotics four thousand five thousand dollar allowance for the lift station that's part that's part of the project hopefully that that that's built in that's built into the actual project that the base and again some people ask some people ask me a question too you know and you know architects if you can tell apart earns his money because he's dealing with lift stations he's dealing with the site and and land development he's dealing with elevations he's dealing with APA compliance he's dealing with fire marshal color codes because we can't just put a metal building you know it's how he built the building do you guys build a building and kind of do what you want to do we got to make sure it's compliant hey we're with us through the school system if we're gonna have kids adults and then in that building and so that's why he has that task of making sure that our best interests are represented any other questions for part what I'm a whole grade of that when it comes off of that we're we're planning on putting that building is there enough grade from there to the bus barn to make it easily from your haven't you noticed Wow there is to go all the way on the other side of them the connection whatever to clean out I know where it comes out but I don't know in depth that comes out of the building and so that's gonna be one of the that's part of the reason we have 20 feet of sidewalk cheaper then I can go an extra 30 feet around something and replace it so we'll find the most efficient way to run it and put it in so that we are spending that necessary dollars either that in our entire school all our property is in city limits good question I would say yes Kim can we use this septic drainfield or a lagoon your word and part of it isn't within the city limits see I I don't I don't think we do because we met we we had the meeting with number of us the city of visuals with Eric County no County would be Danny Hawkins trying to think of who else was there Scott Scott Jeffers Dave myself or margarita Solano we were there in that news honey will come up because we were all within the city we were all over the city that's not an option if we're within city limits right we have to use city sewer but that house to the east like he was saying his honor and that's all right Clark thank you for your time we'll let you sign off and we'll see you bright and early here tomorrow I'll see you thank you I'm gonna go to the PowerPoint the facility improvements we've had a lot of different things silly improvements I kept you guys a thrust of everything there's some pictures that you guys have seen and also you know for those in attendance you guys can see what's happening when you see the first couple of pictures there if you go to the go ahead yes the next thing our walls aren't going to be blue but that's just that special reinforced sheetrock that we have in this classroom so if it gets dinged or popped it's going to be less likely to have you know Mars or scars or whatever so you can see that they are after the framing the insulation piece on the walls the support beams they're in the middle for hanging things like you like whiteboards and so on so forth in different things you can see that way of framing running parallel with the floor if you go to the next picture able to see some work yeah yeah there is they're there they're just getting after with it with again the framing of the sheetrock even the projects just taking shape the picture there would be on the right that's actually a picture of part of the nurse's office and it's going to be so in especially now with over the 19 we didn't expect to be we actually have a we were uh well the June 1 meeting that Stacy and James attended one of the suggestions is to have it kind of have a plan for areas for kids that do not feel well so just help set them in the office and wait for a mom or dad to come pick them up and our nurses office you can see that area back behind is kind of a could be a let's say a hearing vision check area it could be a place again to have a pretty kids if they're not they're not well separate from the main area as you can see there which would be the nurse's office and then kind of just along the wall there where that window is it's back there where there's a restroom facility in the nurse's office which we didn't have there at the elementary so that nurse's office area is maybe so much better so much more healthy and so much more private for you know issues that we have so that's going to be anything here so the inner off the HUD can go here the restrooms where the restrooms were in the first three ways it's the first first room light next to the restroom and if you look at the next picture there and I think you kind of duplicated the picture on the right there is actually where the restrooms be whether we're going to have sinks outside in the hallway which is even that better than course with co19 type scenarios we're gonna have staff watching kids watch their hands they're deciding let's say my hands through and they're gone they're gonna actually it can be a teaching thing it can be a hey make sure you spend 20 seconds you some people whatever I've heard that seen some places where baseball players are encouraging pistol ball games in Japan so anyway though you can see the piping there's going to be outside in the hallway so that kids with washing their hands inside of the teachers so that will be good as well the epoxy floor projects oh wow it just sets off the staff lounge it'll be also for the cafeteria the elementary school this will not only be better for students and staff and it'll also be better for our custodians cleaning these floors are so much easier to clean and I feel it was hardly in the old flooring and so on and so forth where it just seems like it you never can only get it clean so it's it's it's really nice continuing on the flagpole area at the elementary school with some getting rid of all that gravel that he gravel which was like almost like what we're skating on ice kids would run over there and they it's it's a little scary there was a bunch of people there if you remember when these trees were trees got a moon they've got rid of that pea gravel and house all swept up and clean it just looks very very it's a very classy so and we may have maybe had some picnic benches there in the future for some people to have around there and there's some shade trees there there yeah we're going to yeah it was okay it's out there that's where I'll have the kids next couple pictures are middle school parking lot expansion we've added spaces there if you see that on the southeast corner also again moving the parking lot a little closer to the the east side of the building that's gonna make that area so much nicer for games and events ie were in buses and and this normal drop-off but you know as far as their should talk about the pickup it's only been a problem it's just been a bottleneck so that was a really good idea to throw a pad and that way the cars will park a little bit closer to the building so pulling out pulling in it'll be much safer and as well as what events we have so many events there obviously in that side building so and we added a few spaces there it would be to the southeast corner there which I haven't read there so very thoughtful more epoxy flooring there again nurse's office at the middle school got there some very old dingy carpet there and that boxing for justice a nice science room this is our sixth grade science room next one it was fifth grade they wanted science wanted epoxy flooring or just some different experiments they do and things like that so very very nice and then the epoxy for my high school nurse's office so there's Laurie and they've given as we remember and painted we're going to again we painted in the nurse's office the most maintain their stuff on high school and again the staff plan so this hopefully it will help with cleaning at nights and you know an apartment in the staff lounge in the kitchen area is just not very good to have also very very nice and then the activity entrance concrete work that concrete was divots it had some nasty crater spots that we're just not very safe to walk on an area that can be kind of accessibility opening there is a new better for young people as well as if we have to pull apart about to drop off certain things it's a little wider there and then some pictures out from North downtown court office remodel I'm you can see some pictures there that just absolutely yes that they and again with this project all the contractor work is local contractors we had a tree excavation my Skillman as much Dustin Alan flooring and those people they're creating clocks with electrical Australia with the kitchen and cabinet work Burlington construction with concrete work in the basement they the local vendors have just been out of this world for us and terrific so you can see the areas there's you walk in and that would've dealt with City Hall would have their board meetings their own City Council meetings there we've created office space for misty and Cindy Morales yeah it is great on the picture by the way this cold weather teak is the paint and so anyways and then there's just a couple officers a year yeah a couple office areas that we have there for Doug mandolin and a Margarito and then the next one there a couple more office areas there and again the pictures are just we are hoping that we're going to be able to move the first week in July after that first for each in July we're waiting on the internet connectivity in the network connectivity piece we do want to get through these are a warrior in a central office and it says the kitchen Rob Reider knock Mike down there but again he's done with the cabinet work really nice in that kitchen area we have small conference room there where their kitchen was and then the board office which is in that there's set of windows there that face to the north off of downtown and so we've created a nice area there not only for me but also for training purposes for technology or whatever the case might be we've got a good set up there was so instead of having the projector screen here we'll have one new lying touch panel for done to be able to do this teaching cadre with our people that come down there at to the ward office for for training for technology training and we'll also have to stay playing a monitor for the viewing public because they can look at the agenda similar to what we have here so it's that any country can have two different monitor viewing type options so and then back in which was where they a child advocacy services where they used this in the police department as well as the shape departments these for interview ins this is where Christianity will be back there for their offices for special educational axes and then we've added a couple of restrooms where was a story to her basically put a wall in between created two restrooms there in the central part of the building or so it really has turned out well questions on any of the projects I know I kept you guys informed what's going on and again just fortunate the city was willing to donate the building to us and we can again hopefully already get some good news here first of July on are they there a possibility as well as again just laid there we have to start working on the project here it was so key the timing is very I'm gonna skip down to number five the SRO Brooke this is something that other school districts in having two four three and two four five were looking at Sandy Rogers presented this to us as a possibility to look to add an SRO so basically welcome to the great that would be in 2 4 3 and 2 4 5 then having SRO shared between those two and Burlington to 4 would have our own SRO I shared with you this proposal and we don't need to take a vote on this or a decision because it's really going to be a joint decision process for all through school districts because again let's say 2 for 3 & 2 for 5 decided really sro then and that's going to change the dynamic of our brands a proposal would be for us this proposal is in place if all three of us decide to go in that direction the two world community for by splitting in the sorrow and us having our own so again this we should time to think about look over the proposal and then we can I'm gonna have a chance to talk with personal word important Rhys to see what their boards are thinking they have some time to digest the information again I'm going to show you what just go through a couple of highlighted areas that's a 28,000 $250 per year additional expense of our own SRO the SRO would be on duty for 40 hours we've there are worth being sent out to them yes it's in the attachment of question actually said attachment with the board working in care that's the trying to think of anything else I highlighted here yes Argo would have an office in facility so that they could you know kids if needed that there was a need for that to happen if there's an interview or possibly counseling or a parent eating with them live with the parents yes it allows us that had an office area in one of the buildings and I think those were those Biggie's that I saw here without going through every piece of this so last year what was the estimated amount the SR was in our schools you know you guys have acted I feel very often weekly daily monthly I would say sometimes it even and buried at times sometimes oh my word and he called me to them know know about it all sometimes Jess with the puffs ahead and shoot walk around the classrooms and coming out at lunchtime I mean I didn't really keep tallies of which he came in or not but I we definitely saw her on a weekly probably weekly basis yes our we think no plus we had around him right there it says 40 hours a week so I think no he usually warm a touch that because you know that she like yeah we're not we don't play yes yeah we have paint before the SRO is your grant and therefore we do not have any needs associated the SRO quite quite frankly now is is on as as needed on-call tight situation for us and people begin to go by it's just if we have situations arise we call connect them and hopefully she's available sites so that would be the difference in forty hour scenario here they would probably I'm going to say again spend time maybe they come down and have lunch with kids it finds elementary or middle school high school they would just feel presence within the framework at all three buildings because the internet were yellow weeks in the summer we witnesses so we have a need so the Sheriff's Department would employ that person during the summer and so this is our the our commitment at twenty eight thousand two hundred fifty dollars if not more to during the school year and so they're asking the other two schools to do the same amount to split some one half and half 20 hours in each well half of that each without you to ask correct that is correct you may say I want super ministration control away it would still be at their employee yeah we would I think we would have some sort of deep agony to say so again I think part of the what we want to do now is what I'm looking at have those company have our administrator retreat Lindsay have a discussion about this okay because it makes sense financially I'll report back to you do we have a need on the you yeah is it a is that they need or as well once you know prepend of decided which one that yes and two for three and two for five hours would have to make that decision too so those are some things we're going to talk about on Wednesday our retreat so yes yes they're current police officers in our gymnasium is that part of our SRO program is that something they do because of the programmers that they do because they're part of the community it's part of a they're getting big events they come they're super nice eye contact Sheriff's Office or BB when we have big events and say can you have an officer here if they're not on a call then they typically stop by like the football game one or two so we're not paying anybody no current if if they're free they try to cover us when they can but what we have what we consider the responsibility of our current SRO what what do we make them well I here's what I think to me more that it's it's a it's an emergency five situation so let's say there's a student issue at Burlington High School and they need help above and beyond the administrative hall they're probably calling in the police department or officer sire so from what I understand a sorrows in the world sro is supposed to communicate with the school if there's something in the community that bad is going on they're supposed to contact with the school and vice versa if there's something bad in the school we contact them and then they make the decision whether or not they bring in the police force or whatever maybe need to be called our maker disco is that what our SRO does and if so why do we do they just randomly show up in the schools because we've asked them to well I may be the new guy that I changed over time like there have been years that we have years in high school we paid the answer like this and they were in the schools all day every day new programs or safety or eat lunch with the kids to be against school pressure and I mean they did a 40-hour week yes like the reason having a whole time the reason that we try not to call directly we try to go through dispatches so that they can log what what that's what ranches track different events for different issues that happen to arise so again that's it's more you us what are the duties of the SRO actual original question for us it's truly an emergency type situation where we're calling some there and ideally if we can get that these sites that come because she does have a little bit of a connection more so than other law enforcement people is ideal but she may be busy or she may be off that day and she is then we're ready is somebody else Micah so confused is why you can't call the SRO that doesn't really make sense to me that should be your contact what are they they're not in our school building walking around act is the Sheriff's Department officer insert warrants and do all that all day long well in issue if you read the agreement there there are some - for example of a thank you to our SRO whose group performs deputy type duties would have to be in court and that's an okay thing or the reason for them to be caught in that paperwork with with the situation where I think it would be different if we had if we had our own SRO and early excited I do think you would have more say so and more input and more connection if you will with that person because again they're going to be on-site so again if let's say for example our SRO if we have them and they're at Burlington High School and we have a situation at the elementary school and there are they're on there are basically on the say learn about our employee because they're still through talking kind of Sheriff's Department I think we would have that direct license it wasn't we need assistance in Olympia we have a parent situation we would make we would be able to make that connectivity that connection that directly you those supervisors that it says assigned activities at any of the school like I think we would have to have some conversations about the contract which it does say yeah if you want to toughen up I mean we probably want to make some changes it is a time crunch make it where we would I think since I meant here we have three different SROs we've had Jeremy Lin I do feel like that they believe that they're to spread but improve it that's part of this discussion and is also I do think they have somebody that they have a higher that has potential to have that SRO capability I feel comfortable with it would be a really good SRO so what did you use them full-time in your three bills I can speak when I first came to a sorrows ago that SRO ran the safe program for which a seat belts are for everyone ran that program when dinosaur left it just fell champions of character picked it up as part of our community service and we do that now when it's things like that with there you stay if you remember way back each time the DARE program SROs kind of were charged the DARE program and things like that are those things beneficial yes to me if if you go in that direction we've got to have some specific things that we line out that they're going to take care of as part of their they might not tell me until two and then they're on to that two to ten for that bag because there's a football game for that flexibility with their schedule and I think that like if there's a program like for example whatever is in September fits wear your seat belt months then September we want to make sure you do this in October it's this we want you to I mean you would have to set some specific guidelines it okay December's this or whatever thank you we be a United Future I mean we have a lot of art I mean be a huge increase because we're basically using the SRO as an emergency a person if you will in situations arise so yeah it would be an increase and that's I think we're two for three and two for five are gonna come into play and have their discussions as well so I be I think the biggest thing for us right now is there you will have the discussion administrative retreat have some discussions about it do we have a need for that I'll share back with you also share back with you I hear from Russell Cory and the other County school districts and then questions Randy really I mean he says the explain that they can say hey um can you give me 30 grams I need that for officer that I have to do anything I want then maybe we could look into it and not just say yeah the first line of this Agreement being where it's completely he says he's under control completely and all you're doing is giving them money I'm not going to agree to that yeah I'll tell you that right now and I'm not even sure if you go read be one that's a if that's in there I'm not agreeing to it because we have to have some control of a safety officers rolling our balls and doing stuff and they can't be undermining or doing stuff to our administrative staff that becomes a conflict because whatever the reason may be but it has to be something that I'd love to know what their job description really is I can't find that in there is this any or somewhere where because well because this is a challenging budget for us we're gonna spend additional funds that's a little bit right now especially with the obits and budgets by being in the states that may be a part of what two or three internal I'll do some more checking if you have some more questions for me just email them to me and I'll work on getting those answers and then again share with you what part of Engineers talked about as well as the other school districts I shared with you in a care coordinator job description and again this could be for an anticipated opening you know that we could put out this daycare after opening and again it's anticipated and we would only hire it if we do get the grant I don't know if you have any questions on just some of the different duties there that were listed we we've been told you live one so reminding you how many people are reclining on employment interview here all depends on the number of students that you know so in terms of thinking it we would have a guess right upon Brian right okay for example if we were to max out at let's say 60 to 65 guess we would end up with let's say a director maybe like three the teachers underneath the director and then the number of support staff we would be based on the age of the kids so those would be like the instructional aide parasite assistants the teacher assistants to meet that the ratios that we would need that would depend upon the age of the kids because there's different ratios for different ages so I anticipated I'm going to say somewhere in the neighborhood 10 to 15 equal total so the hierarchy the two being top-heavy with the directors at 70 meters is something I would say you'd have to have a director because star low with the UI I wouldn't be able to do it you have to have somebody overseeing the whole program and so guest director we could again we could emphasize that as an educational degree for the director yeah right with all the other people who are I think the wrecking of the kids for one night and one thing that you know it's just so yeah the one thing that you look at is for that for example if you look at number three it says such alternatives to deal of qualifications as the court may find appropriate acceptable and that would be okay for the state if you go for that licensure visa that's why we put that number three in there because you may have the right person you may find the right person that's just that person that you want but you even get into they do they have to have a degree maybe yes they know it all depends that they can they get the licensure needed to be that daycare director that date their coordinator yeah but the licensure was based on states rights or is that way exactly we can put a four-year degree with a I had for your educational degree we couldn't put that wondering what probably be a preference but if we don't get someone we can't expect you guys financial Tito starts the daily operational piece rather reports the filings of information supervision our employee is a licensure piece and visits the inspections the salon sorts that's where that director very much like a person but they'll have nothing to do with the finances so per point to me is being very well made if you hire someone who has in those business noah counties no any but if you spend three hours and to take to you six hours because you're teaching these person how to do the math see that i mean we have to really think that over about what we put in that's part of the pain method in its lien about the complain and degree the specific it is business worth more is education important where is it where is a degree important is it associate maybe again I I don't know exactly what that that that person that what we're gonna cash out right now yeah exactly that's why we're looking at this I don't think you want to specify like early childhood you can I think you're above it yourself and wish you wouldn't well no all right like I wonder specified [Music] the school of art not a perfect experience they said yeah and the such alternatives let them work find acceptable that shows Joseph change we have a little flexibility in that statement yes so what's some what is a little problematic there say they find someone that they think is going to work and then they come to the Board for approval and three four of us disagreed with that person because you do some about their past so part of that stuff when we do that kind of hiring with a high profile type thing that the whole community is going to know about is maybe we should have some kind of I don't know if that person is going to be high profile enough we should have a little bit more information on a more regular basis or something so that it you all the people that have lived in this town for years and it's somebody from around that you know something about that's really an above you that information should be early not at the end I think the interview process the background check that we have references all those things like with any other pretty good this thing's I need high-quality personal and so I feel I guess I feel pretty comfortable that a hiring process the list of things that we do Elsa says peffern not required to so he said it from counseling center not really about this but because they when we created our preschool use on position we initially said I'd have a degree and we got through applicants for a long time that and actually want to go back that job description so you're probably more correctly that less because you can always wait that if they have an ingredient like you know prioritize them here I know that that was we had some lesson the requirement for education for that position and that was my directors job that was just but I do think here are key factors [Music] if we get the grant me with dirty add Stacey and slate have already been part of that basically the committee you are part of it so with that description I say we were posted open and anticipated opening again at least to get a feel for how many applicants we might have in the next two three four weeks in hopes that we did good news again if we have to July 1 rolls around and you don't get the grant for some reason then he just we all have any response we don't have any obligation to hire anybody because we have not made an offer and of course ever he would come back to the board for you guys to approve the person we did get some any homework at least it gives us an idea if there is some interest in an opening and how many applicants that we might have so we haven't submitted this you know that's easy again job mr.

Bester is on right now could you just give an overview or summary of what it would take to phase this out and I think one of his questions what had to do with the cost what exactly do you know off the top of your head what that cost is I do not know off the top of my head what the cost of that is but one of the things that we use it for is just as one small indicator of holistically looking at a child to determine times whether or not either a child might be achieving their potential it might also help us in looking at just being another piece of data to determine whether or not we would go to testing it would not keep us from going to testing for special education nor would it keep a child out of our academically gifted program but it is an indicator that we use our AGP program our academically gifted program actually serves a higher percentage of students than most districts because we do look at their performance in the classroom and a lot of those nonlinear you know not just grades but more about their thinking and the kinds of projects they produce so there's not about their grades or or their score on that all set but I can that committee some additional information about the cost okay all right and I know you just um we inferred this or obliquely refer to it there are other tests out there that may be a better measure or we don't not necessarily okay I can see by the way it's probably not okay Kevin did you want to add any thoughts to that I know you had looked into this as well yeah not not exactly for the kind of skills and aptitudes of this assessment gives us it's it's honestly a matter of to what degree we need this information for all students some of this information is good for some of our students and that's when when we're talking about whether it's an assessment we continue whether or not I think that's kind of the realm where we're thinking about is this something that we need for everybody or for a smaller segment okay but it wouldn't be something that I would say we'd be looking for a replacement for just all use okay well I'm happy to reach out to mr.

fellows hope inter pares know forever through Europe we just haven't approved of jobs for her I say you need to get the Job Description out there and just be upfront they're waiting on we're waiting on our funding if we get it written if not and that'll be July 1st and what's two weeks roughly thereafter and we didn't hire somebody up for example we met on fire sometimes alike too but at least they get the ball rolling that we're going to have some people who hired shortly I say bit middle of July at the latest hopefully because like I want to get that person involved in the facility like that person involved in that play based curriculum that they're going to want to incorporate for their early literacy or the University enriched environment in which area and activities that we want the kids to be involved in a little right so vision for like that with you well I'm a director in charge of daycare have to go to state training when it's not coordinated with the old Mellors and they'll become necessarily [Music] there will be some connection but they won't necessarily be independent FPS so if it's okay we go ahead and use that Job Description postman anticipated opening I start to see where we are with that one is okay what one item that that doesn't stand alone and I talked about we did you hesitate for our drivers in our and our cooks there any public 19 we didn't have any number of we can technology staff involved with different duties there that could be considered hazard pay we have a system $11 and basically $11 a day if you were to prorate the $500 that we gave for hazard pay for our coats as well as for our drivers that deliver meals it's an $11 a day an amount if you will and if we were to do something like that basically we prorate that number of days that our technology staff or involved in either tech distribution meeting with kids to deal with issues or support parents to deal with issues getting the items returned back are technology items and a total amount I think is yeah $840 4 1 2 3 4 5 6 different possible staff members any questions either Duggar I could answer who paid some fresh we'll go ahead and live with that pole disco and then the last thing is yeah how'd that go yeah the truth one meeting went really well at Jamison Stacy if you want to make any comments it was it was just a very good meeting feel very good about our county health providers and their common sense approach they just didn't have a very good common sense approach so how things are moving forward in the county and then how schools might open that I've been honest this is a very good deal plus my views I think there will be other meetings in the future based on what happens so I don't know what James or Stacy if you have any questions so I just I frankly talk to several people that if the over the school was like they're saying over the schools and all this distancing that masks and all this stuff my kids my members where that's the one I said there's discussions about that but I know that everybody at least that me it was all for hitting these schools overcoming there was there was no objection I think we have to do but I but overwhelmed and part of the discussion we had that I think key to everybody is early on that we provide lots of educational people because I mean as we know in the hospital and healthcare city you know we have education but it's over so I mean you got all these different agencies provide identification and so now what's come out of it at the end of the day or my opinion is we have social distancing and we have my that's it that's really what as a matter of the most of all of us and and you make your decision and so but so much my distance I would love to know what the state's scientific data is that social distancing actually helps prevent children from getting the disease and or becoming otherwise I mean there are plenty of countries who have proven already that they never took their kids out of school and their haven't reported zero cases in other states there so social distancing do you guys know the science of social distancing where it came from it was a research paper by a 12 year old 20-some years ago that presented if you have an outbreak like the swine flu or something in the past maybe we should just keep people apart and our personnel are people that be instead of using herd immunity and the process of every other disease we've ever faced we switched to this social distancing which a lot of science does not follow so the bad part is everybody is somewhat litigious and if you don't listen and your persons significant other get scoped it the first thing we do is soon so it becomes a legal matter instead of a scientific matter so the frustration for this in school I think there should be no debate school should be opening in the fall in my opinion there's zero debate on that aspect but there will be because of politics so do do do we have to do what we're gonna do because of finances probably but I wish someone would actually use some data some science and actually give us rules that make sense I would love and we have enough the first the first boat the first cruise ship that was out in the Pacific Ocean that they quarantined for 14 days had 278 individuals on it the death rate on the boat was 2.7 percent it's a mini study of what we should expect it's not a whole lot different than the common cold influence [Music] they do oh yeah very much yeah yes I knew the last thing on my list is county superintendents here in there or needs that they're going to discuss a lot of preschool kids but at out of this group schools in the county with Awards this evening so for example we had two scenarios come up with Darla here at the elementary school where it really were the preschool kids parents wanted they were gonna send their kids already elementary middle high school kids too or a district well they also have may each have each of these two families have a preschool kit they want their kids that you want all the kids to come to the same school district keep them all together but it's been kind of a past practice a gentlemen's agreement a handshake once they with superintendents in the past to not allow how to district attendance for preschool kids so they're gonna be discussing this their organs tonight again just end up with in the last week this item just did come up and so I don't know you know what your feelings are I guess my feelings just to give you my vitamin maybe I shouldn't do that maybe I should let you go I'll let you guys get that I have some leads but I reply immediately and if it were going to have about my kids don't be the breaker so that's what I said that's our current standard for the high school kids is they have to wanna come and the other school has to release them yes they apply issue is conversation well parents in that where they probably said that's I'm still not sure where we're at on that and we've also had just because of the expansion of another program anymore I'm having taken all the kids okay I think the thing is we have to be careful about you know if we take kids because they have siblings in here or take it's there all right peace I don't want to assimilate into this situation where looks like we're discriminating because you don't have an older sibling and so we're not taking me because you're the first where I can take you to the first get their family for reasonable because currently our practices you know last year we made black one hand that had that other simple [Music] you know okay so I'm going to go back to when I first became a principal Evo that was the very first year our kids from their least the best year especially preschool kids there was the best rack [Music] we used to bus kids from out of our district in work disease is the best education services there was no he actually busted our school and then we both had a bus accident their bus records whatever and then so that community said no more bus you don't really know the bus accident was the stimulus but they are going to have it especially the reports we're talking about but we've got two different these three schools why do you think I feel the same way about the families I think the family should stay together in the same district wherever it is and I just think that makes sense you're calling us a calendar you're starting to be involved with how big it takes sense to me that the preschool gets the thing want it not again that's a that's a parents want they submitted applications I think that make sense to me but I whether I think as a parent why my decision I would hope would be rewarded in a way so if I wanted to support my local preschool teaching system I would keep my kids in the local preschool teaching system if I feel like that my kids would be better in yours hopefully that decision is rewarded because hopefully they research why they're sending them there and there's a rationale there we'll give them credit for making that decision I mean that's you know if I wanted to have two of my kids here and one of them in a preschool where I lived in a smaller town sometimes that's supporting your local community that you have access to and that I have a feeling was part of this gentleman's agreement trying to maintain some of that process but maybe it's getting to the time finances are getting short for not just us not just some schools but all schools are going to see financial issues and preschool is going to be preschool and and daycares are going to see an effect so you know families are figure enough a cash this and it might be better for them to function that way so my opinion is we should let them help them make that decision and I don't think we should just have a blanket rule that says we don't expect preschool I think it should be discussing Darla brought the point of the appearance of discrimination I know there's no one here that's gonna discriminate but you know some people we have people asked to come to our school and we don't let them for behavioral issues legal issues whatever they may be so if we do this we have to do the same due diligence that you guys are already doing with the students that we don't bring in so that if there's an issue we've done our due diligence this is why and this is why not not getting into all that other stuff but I'm all for kids coming if we fancy not to do it even if you do it somehow save the relationships you can get in here do you think we opened enough air would be in this class I don't think there will be a master I mean I honestly think that direction I know like crystal they're from that area I said work here well it's not it's solely up to us the other ports are gonna have discussion you're gonna meet my other superintendents and if they say absolutely not we're going to start a war we try to push it right and I think I think the direction is for you guys at least I can share with the other superintendent they'll share with me what their words are thinking too is to allow the process Jimmy's where they can apply to be out of working for preschool kids whether they're kindergarten fifth graders eighth graders or preschool that you're what you're telling me is just allowed a lot of parents to put in an out of district request even every school and what word accordingly based on is there anybody on the board against this nothing so I'm sure they're just trying to protect our districts like and you do the same venting that they don't rain we have to do the same with the preschool kids it's it's more difficult because you don't it's not like a fifth grader it's hard to see most like what you're going to accept them and then whiteout ordinate right so this is more a question than anything so I've been in Kansas City quite a bit doing basketball and softball and all that stuff that's opened up with my kids and it was very interesting to hear what we did do you know what they did in Kansas City the majority of schools gave them their third quarter grades and said good luck if you want to study this stuff will be online figure out how to get it and that was pretty much every kid we talked to all these basketball tournaments and everything that's all he did we there's been stories that we prayed and Jason Stasia that meeting we had on June 1 here I can't remember who mentioned if it was something one of the people never here mentioned Olathe they had a friend that had a an elementary student in a way this [Music] money to buy computer for everybody I am NOT to pressure theories yes Lina for [Music] okay budget information this is just information that we share with you each year it's just it's basically a again it's information from years past with some adjustments we did you can find out on Fridays that our insurance rates are going to be the kite insurance Canada's education insurance trust variety have ensued meeting to find out hopefully be able to use what are the insurance rates in the society anyway but there's just a summary down below those three recommendations just to make sure that you can support this is Tracy and I begin to close that word musing out one by creating a new budget meal prices Lerman recommendation one two and three we just have to agree on we don't have to make a motion right and end it in there yeah they're all the same [Music] you haven't changes oh well yeah and maybe okay so the swimming pool belies when you think I'll forever remember just gonna have yeah oh that's great news we just finalized that you know John Scott Jeffers so that's really how probably let it out without you well I was just going to ask you that back yeah did it just a little bit with the rec center whether you drunk it's automatically those before or at five years ago unmannerly how much you're doing right out of here so thanks everything we never dropped that we need to make that decision tonight what we're gonna do based on accepting this recommendation or no we can build a budget around that and then you'll have all those numbers okay so we can agree on this yeah this is just the weekend I have nothing against I agree okay any other questions on that okay yell prices there's just an information amended adjustments again this is something that diana has place here with regards to these adjustments again there's there's slight increases but some of the increases are necessary based on food service guidelines if I'm not mistaken right this haven't increased in ten years okay Omega budget to increase the adult breakfast price by five cents either lunch price by ten cents and student breakfast prices by 15 cents for the 2020 Diane we can't make money and we're pretty good right now we don't know each other but we did not so she could drink even are we subsidized cuz that doesn't seem like no I mean remedial and superiority yeah for free reduced lunch rates the majority that's why it can stay that long and she's not can't wait money anywhere and we're below we were how far below stay Africa's on where we were quietest lunch of this everybody has to be about pretty much the same so across the board across the state and they're pretty similar adult you have to charge them [Music] all our food comes from the same vendor crisis well I think the Lord it's better for all our kids to be able to afford breakfast and I say they were number one of youth because they can't afford it I'd rather be okay with it unless somebody has something we donated to the bathroom so motion accepted retirement request I'm Bruce harden with regrets as transportation motion passed 7-0 we have negotiation meeting this Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 24 yeah this week oh okay no that's right for you my sweet we've adjusted that day because we were waiting on some information with a specialist session maybe three four what we are with information that we are gathering is that we can expect funding to be at the levels that the state Supreme Court provided us last year so that was that wording 569 well the the forty five sixty nine base to date the people for next year is what they are they're recommending which was Hannah again who knows anybody again coded or health related issues and you know rather we ask them it's that's it's still you know potential is there who knows with anything upon tax collections but the information that we've said it on with Arthur Watson with state superintendents all throughout that and ale menace as well as other equals they are telling us that we can expect funding to be at the levels that we have expected yourself a city okay they're not planning on adjusting that right now so we push negotiations back to June 24th for a couple reasons one it allows us to close out the budget year and we've not really ever booked out a budget year with occasion by having a bonus a retention bonus there is no retention bonus this year because if you remember we took a big swing a salary size during the did that money you're in a year now so no retention bonuses this year coming up so if the closing out the budget year we're going to have an idea where we are financially and so that'll be over the next ten days approximately by June 17 June 18 we're hoping that we'll have more specific numbers and I can share with you and the Friday notes to us and I just some ideas and some numbers over looking at we'll have your church Express right sorry so I will have more information I'll probably put out that in my Friday knows - you are part of that section adjusted or informational since success section on negotiations they gave you some ideas leave everything else pretty much done and we suggested a supplemental across country music teacher music teacher calendar we're down to the financial East really that's all we have because that tended grievance on everything else so that I don't really think this money into us there's some things that you want discussed privately or cognition internet I'll share with you some information and financially and my Friday know something okay calendar this is just the adjusted counts are divided negotiations and this would be against six fewer days with 15 minutes additional time added again the focus of this calendar is hopefully they'll give our teachers more time during the school day an emphasis to would be middle school because it allows them to have any period which we've heard about since I've been here that'll help them what electives hope the kids get more options more opportunities within a period a so that's what this calendar is representing and all buildings are starting at the same time yes we have had discussions with administrators and directors that Gore was involved with this we are going to try something at 7:55 start time and 3:10 dismissal time for everyone that thinks he can do this with the buses now some buses may start out at the elementary school middle high school some a start a middle high school and go to elementary school they believe in talking with this drivers that we have a plan in place by every nation to start at the same time so well this is all pending approval right that's right so lambda r we're gonna publish this on the internet and seemed to be a perfect most number of the 2021 calendar even though it's kind of proof that's not the work permit right now correct and they recently we have always worked together with them on the calendar but that's not working this is Isaac here I should say always as I've been here already computer before you'd agree over there on the marker for someone else but that proposed graduation plans you want to talk to that mr. Reid what's that I [Music] already talked about give me a hard time you need to listen a lick yeah jio Jacob list your progress J that I would have a list of things needed if we're going to picnic they said yes what are we doing it Thursday check account for staff so the 13th well has to be down the Thursday was really don't like to do that first week at school because that's our youth earnings forth and affinity 17th we most likely will have the parameter answers but attend our economy that's a new staff definitely all they call the staff 13 that's what we did last other stores in 13th and office thank you [Music]

they'll be going over summer assignments and I know we're a little bit behind schedule with everything but we have to do summer assignments and get that out we also need to go over homework procedures with ed committee now that that's out of policy okay so now we are up to public content and items only and agenda items only we have five comments so far and the first one is from mrs. O'Reilly 7:45 schoolhouse lane passed down option please explain how passed out option if approved would work which students be given the option to get a letter grade opposed to pass south how would pass an option to letter grade affect their transcript flat Frank lastly but students be given the opportunity if they fail with summer school be online or in a building with social distance and seeing precautions the pastel option is up to this will be up to the students whether they want to take the pass/fail option if a student fails we do have summer school but it will be done virtually there will be nothing in our in our buildings the pass/fail option could potentially have some impact on class rank again goes a pass/fail option and it has an automatic weight to it I don't know exactly what that way is but obviously if you're a student and you have a very high GPA you probably would want to take the letter I mean your number grade versus a letter grade at that point in time question number two Patricia o Reilly 745 schoolhouse lien I cannot see today's meeting it says live now I know people are on so I think we're good Laura Paxson or any new hire ease related or have any prior connections to any current employees not to my knowledge lauren packs attempt a street BOE policy changes where can we see the language for the proposed BOE policy changes again they should be posted on the website as far as I know at the agenda number five okay that was a mistake so there are no more Dan I just had a question because I he talked about the policy I know we were asking to make sure that in wherever the changes were they were highlighted I didn't see that for these this round is that not gonna cuz I thought because I think didn't we I think we had asked at one point that we didn't to only like you know at least highlight or indicate somewhere within the policies what the actual change was cuz I know most of them are done by the company that does the policy change cuz they're just they just usually strike throughs on those changes so it's just usually like a it'll come through with straight changes yeah I didn't really see those and so they could have been additions so like I know that it's another company that does that for us based on I can have I can have that forwarded out to you for the policies that are on here for time right cuz I know before we make them final I think people would want to you know really look through their I mean most of them we we really can't change anyway because they're I'm assuming these are things that are handed down basically because something got a decision was made in the law Debbie and then our policy company then makes sure that they go through our policies to make sure that we're in line with whatever was handed down is that correct that's typically how it works yes okay cuz I think because there are a lot of new people on the board so I think um you know we had a policy that was just created by us for our own you know our own school community that's different than where we're getting tonight what we're getting tonight is from the state correct yeah these are probably little edits from the state you know off the top of my head I think one is often and again I'm working off the top of my head because I didn't see all the policies that were listed I could probably take a fast look up here on the agenda hold on a second I had asked for the same thing when looking over the policies if the the strike there was my work changes could be highlighted because some of them are very obvious depending on the length and some of them it's like you're looking for is it an and or has it become an or yeah yeah like the the the domestic violence popular you gotta bring it up a little bit there there there probably were some strength through some some verbage changes depending on some law edits health and phys-ed was was a you know again probably some verbage changes to post needles are probably there those two are brand new that's a requirement for us to have a lactate room in schools the medication to revise supervisor our constructions revised school year school day and school closings those are revised just based upon obviously going virtual and things like that and the reporting missing and abuse children was also revised so I'll have Taryn send that stuff out to you guys tomorrow thank you any other comments before we move on ugly I got was that fun there she is she's in alright so now we are up two minutes for 518 so approval of the minutes oh wait I'm sorry hold on one second we did get one more question there is us from Lauren packs attempt a street policy there's no language on the agenda again our attachments to the agenda I think you would have to click on each one of those it's electronic okay so approval of minutes from the five 18 20 board meeting can I get any motion motion motion miss Stevens a second second mr.

Bester too and see where I'll see if we can develop some of his concerns and I will reach out to him okay all righty okay thanks Ike I'm opening my email I see we have another email from mr. Bester that came in at 4:58 p.m. which was two hours ago I will read it to the members of the cheshire curriculum committee as much as our school administrators teachers and board of EDH will applaud be applauded for their efforts to maintain some semblance of learning through this pandemic shutdown it is important to keep in perspective that distant or remote learning has been an emergency response to a crisis and although district leaders have placed qualifiers on how successful distance learning has been for students it will be extremely difficult to measure or quantify its impact and certainly not in a timely manner that said I want to draw your attention to several newspaper articles published in the past week I hope they are helpful some of these look familiar one from The Wall Street Journal one from the New York Times Connecticut news junkie and another I hope you will take the time and read those articles as you tackle the challenging questions facing our community I have always contended that the Metra of a good school system is how it needs it needs of its most vulnerable students motivated driven students are relatively easy to teach but those with learning issues and our personal resistance to learning are unlikely to speak up and let their needs be known I hope that the district can reach out to those students in a more individualized way as a student and parent questionnaires will probably not be returned a daunting job for sure but one which must be undertaken in order to account for as many of our students as possible once again once with the utmost respect for all you do Jack fester I would thank you to mr.

Oliver so the FY 21 budget is expected to be voted on at the June 20th remote zoom Town Meeting we are the boards are still in support of moving forward with the budget as previously designated and voted so what we voted for as committee what the Finance Committee has endorsed and what the Select board is also recommended we are planning on moving forward with that there's a great amount of uncertainty obviously in the in the world but certainly also here in Dartmouth in terms of what we will be how will be impacted in terms of state aid and local receipts particularly could be a major factor some of the uncertainty is around whether or not the federal government passes another bill to support states that is very contested situation at the federal level so that as a you know a role to play and where we're going to be next year then at the state level they are waiting for that federal information to try and help us by the time we actually know that we could be well close to starting school so we've got a ways to go in this process and we'll have to be flexible enough to adjust as we move forward the town is already expecting a cut in state aid and local receipts and planning for that in their budget in the existing budget so it's just a matter of how much that cut is and how much the state absorbs through its reserves how much the town can absorb reserves we are attempting on our end to be a good partner with with the town and try and not fill positions that are that are not essential at this point that said you know if we have an essential position that we can't operate without then we'll need to fill that we the hope there is that will remain you know flexible and be able to adjust accordingly when the time comes and possibly result in savings from those positions long-term so that's where we are and we've not you know we're not adjusting not recommending adjusting the budget at this point and moving forward and hoping June 20th is successful with Town Meeting sure I hope so too Thank You mr.

busters email at 4:30 and also had the same reaction that mark Marleen just expressed which was you know we're all we're all the same on the same board with what we're doing here so yeah and always appreciative of having some articles thrown in for my evening reading right okay I don't know if he's got any feedback or comments that he needs to that he's heard from the public with respect to I'm sorry I just curriculum committee I afforded Jack Buster's email to Marlene and nothing additionally I think you know the big angst across Connecticut is what are we doing in the fall and we're aspiring to you know meet whatever challenge we have to face and and learn from what we experienced this spring as it relates to curriculum and instruction and apply that knowledge in the fall and I think that's a big part of what this meeting tonight is about not just you know if we are unfortunately in a remote learning environment but in any learning environment how do we better leverage technology for that success so that's what we're gonna look forward to hearing that today I unfortunately may have to step out though okay all right and yes we are gonna dive in more deeply later on in the agenda okay um then first action our first item of action is review of the minutes of May 11th 2020 we had a chance to review them so do a motion for approval of the minutes and I think that would be you know frozen Oh is she I don't think she could sit up still there yes okay I think I'm I think I have my mic open now sorry so moved okay second all in favor aye okay motion carries next item is new business and a review of an action on the Peck Jones grant request so every year at this time the district puts in a proposal for the Peck Jones grant it's been a number of things including band uniforms it also helped to solidify the world language lab last year we used it for professional development and the next generation standard across the district and here what we are looking to do is to enhance the quality of reading material in the classrooms in the classroom libraries and in the school libraries for students across the district and the reason for this is twofold one with the implementation of full-day kindergarten our students in grade one have been achieving a higher level than when we offered only a half-day program and so teachers in those first and second grades need additional text to support their students in those grades the second thing is we have a lot of teachers and librarians who are concerned that due to remote learning we might not be able to collect all of the lent materials that were given out and because they've been in home for so long that you know we might need to replace and update those and thirdly we're seeking to support cultural responsive curriculum by doing some audits within our libraries to make sure that we're addressing diversity in literacy so I've included a couple of links within that document we're speaking first 12,000 dollars to acquire higher level text in our classroom libraries and grades 1 & 2 approximately 4,000 dollars to bolster our nonfiction resources in the intermediate classroom libraries we're looking at about 4600 dollars to enhance reading materials at dot again sort of in that lens of having culturally responsive text available to our students and then about eight thousand dollars to do that at the high school we're really some of those social studies texts and English text can support the curriculum in that way so I went based on the number that we were looking at last year which I can confirm twenty eight thousand six hundred dollars so I thought that was a nice way to supplement the classroom libraries that we know you know haven't been fully funded necessarily in the last four or five years due to budget cuts and that this would be a way to directly support our students so I'm open to any questions you ladies may have on this topic well we discussed earlier this morning Marlene so I'm I'm fine you know I have no questions I think it's a good use of the funds this year especially you know given given some of the challenges you guys may be facing in terms of retrieving some of the books that have been lent out and how about you thank you yeah over my almost five years on the board I have come to trust pretty pretty directly these requests for the Peck Jones funds they're always come to us well researched and with the need clearly identified so I apologize Marlene I have not been able to take a look at that document in detail but but I will take a look at it and do you feel we do need to take action on this do you feel you're in a position to make a motion to approve the request sure okay would you like that now and then we can we can always have discussion after it's seconded too right yes so I move that we accept the proposal for use of the Peck Jones funds for I don't have this for the purposes of enhancing k-12 libraries exactly what she said what she said I second is there any discussion any further discussion I have none in you good okay yeah hearing no further discussion all those in favor aye aye thank you so much you have made or will make teachers and principals so happy I see Mary giving her thank you right now and I know this is gonna make a big difference for kids so thank you both very much for your support on that much appreciated and this this motion now goes to the full Board for approval correct yes yeah okay um now we move on to informational items these are non action items but they are to bring us up to date on these three issues so okay so the next two items a and B are I'm going to turn over to dr.

Bale discussion um I have a question about the pass/fail option and how um how soon are we gonna share that information a document with the printed explanation to all the parents in the district um if it passes tonight it will probably go out tomorrow okay the question also how does this policy compared to other districts that we know of and how did we come up with the 85% I'm not sure what you mean by the 85% I'm thinking you're meaning me the weighted average for the past versus the fail is it isn't the P equivalent yeah again I think that was that was an internal decision on that one you'd probably have to talk to our principals about that I wasn't really involved in that but the pass/fail option is pretty much with quite a few schools are doing throughout the area on the 4th marking period just because we went virtual and obviously you know virtual is know and and everybody had some concerns with you know not enough one-on-one contact or personal contact with teachers and how much time will parents less students have to let you know like the ones who scored higher or than that how long how much time will they have to let you know what their preference is well we're gonna give it we're gonna get it out tomorrow I would think they would have to let us know by the 15th which is the last day of school I want to also think that as anybody has above an 85 that we probably would discourage them from from taking a letter grade because that would negatively affect them well the students have their grades by the 15th Nelly will know they will not because I know at the University the students saw the what their final grades were and then made the decision I think I mean I the students should be students and parents should be able to see what what the average is currently in Genesis I'm not sure that Genesis they usually shut Genesis off in terms of grades during the last week of school so we might want to check that I will well we will make sure that they have access to see what the grade is before they make their choice any other comments roll call mr.
