um yes you can put that request that'd be considered for for next month for sure um but just um as so that money still exists there so it I would imagine that we may have to consider how we plan for money that we currently don't have access to because there's no action currently on removing anything so anyway we do have the we've we've noted it and and we will consider your requests thank you for that okay I just hi can you hear me yeah go ahead yeah I just wanna piggyback on what uh Veronica said and I want to make sure that this is on the next month's agenda to make sure that we discontinue the school resource officers and put the money on the programs to go for either peacemaking strategies restorative justice counselors or Student Wellness Center there's so many great things we can do I know that there's a fear of what we would do if there's no police but we're in elementary and our kids need this mental health this support especially with covid-19 and there won't be a need for bullying if we give our kids the help at an early stage in their life please make sure that this is on the agenda item for next month and I hope that one of you um I don't know who it's gonna be puts it on the agenda because we will keep holding you guys accountable and we're not going to go anywhere until so to be clear then your um your the pre the previous request was for two sep separate items but you're requesting a single item that includes the dis whatever the word is just ending of the contract and the um distribution of those funds pending that that ended contract correct as one item yes and also I want the statement of the black lives matter as well as what Veronica said I am in full agreement of that and like I said we're not going to go anywhere until this is put on the agenda okay thank you okay so we now um can go let's see item okay so we will return if we to report back from closed session um once we're done with that at 12 30 at the latest um but I will suggest to my colleagues that before we start closed session we take a five or ten minute break a bio break just to um take care of ourselves for a few minutes before we get back but obviously try to get back as soon as possible as everyone agreeable sounds good Okay so five or ten uh let's let's go ten it's been a long meeting we'll just have to power through the mini butt so everyone can go ahead Avatar um just for the purposes of making sure I I'm know what we're doing here so we're gonna everyone will be um removed from this meeting except those for a closed session correct or are we going oh no we have a different link and come back and this one will remain open so that we can come back here if we need to report back from closed session correct correct and Maribel will open up this meeting again right remember or provide me with the access I think that's how we did it yeah yeah I texted you that access before is the same okay um I think I'll be able to find it so we'll go everyone at um 11 40 please go to the link for a closed session and then um we will we will take care of business and then this will return here with any report back okay okay bye make sure you record it yes I'm not a journey yet right yeah we're retreating where um what's the word we're going into closed session there you go thank you 11 40.

damage for providing us with the learning environment that has always put the students best interest first especially during these hard times and the Board of Education for their continued support there a countless number of people who have helped me along this journey of whom I want to thank first off I want to thank all the teachers who I've had over the years starting in my elementary and middle school years across memorial school and ending with the teachers of kami Tech they have all provided me with a stable learning environment and have taught me not only the skills of our disciplines but also have pushed me and inspired me to be the best that I could be I especially want to thank miss Kyle's for all she's done for me over the past three years from the countless hours she spends preparing and giving her students what they need to going above and beyond to help all of our students with College searches applications and scholarships she always manages to make me laugh and put a smile on my face during the mid stressful times secondly I want to thank all of my friends in and out of the school for always giving me support and words of encouragement especially during the most challenging times that helped me to succeed well actually I want to thank my family for always rooting me on and being my best biggest supporters through all of these years I especially want to thank my parents for the constant love and support and always pushing me to be the best that I can be and everything I do and for instilling in me since I was very young the importance of learning and excelling in education I want to be where I am today without you and I am forever grateful the times that we were living in today are truly unprecedented due to the Cova 19 pandemic and we as the class of 2020 are making history it has greatly affected all of our lives in some way whether it be the small business owners in our communities parents managing job losses as they supervise their children's online education or all of us simply managing to stay healthy and alive while following the recommendations of our government leaders the pandemic has also caused us the seniors to miss out on events that many of us Bent have been looking forward to for at least the past four years were made even longer these include the annual senior picnic and senior prom we will also be the first class to have to unconventional graduation graduations one virtual and one in-person outdoors with social distancing of course none of these changes are ideal however looking into the future this pandemic and all the challenges we have faced will make us stronger than ever and it has taught us invaluable life lessons the first lesson that this pandemic has taught us is to take a pause in our everyday lives evaluate ourselves and undergo personal growth discover your interest priorities and maybe even your life purpose in the process do the work and when the quarantine measures are lifted you might just emerge into the real world with a clearer understanding of who you are and where you want to go another lesson learned is that life can change in an instant we now realize drastic changes in our life and it can occur at the blink of an eye due to a global virus however this is not the only thing that can cause change in this way things such as major illnesses like cancer accidents and natural disasters all have the capabilities of changing our lives we as humans must be able to adapt to these changes and persevere through them the effective code in nineteen has had on our lives is just temporary but I believe the lessons that we are learning will last for generations also co-valedictorian a resident of North Wildwood he held a concentration in our pre-engineering program exhibiting academic excellence throughout his time here at cape may tech he has become an integral part of our school community serving as president of the National Honor Society member of our academic competition teams skills USA and Robotics Club he represented his class as senior senator and captain of the cross-country team he also found the time to volunteer with 4-h and the opioid task force in his free time he enjoys playing the piano surfing reading and board games planning to study engineering at Villanova I call to the podium co-valedictorian of the class of 2020 edward oakley hello there I am absolutely thrilled to finally be giving this speech although it's been a rough couple of months we're lucky enough to be in this position now thinking about it I find it nearly impossible to believe that we're already here the last four years have come and gone and we're getting pushed right out into the real world ready to take on what's next I'm forever grateful for the people and the memories I've come to have here at Cape May Tech from long hours after school with mistak to early mornings with mr. wanker launching trebuchet with the rest of priam squad so a beyblade battle in front of the whole school traveling to Japan with one of my best friends two idolizing a skunk with another academic competition team competitions the cross-country meets game nights to the senior dance I could go on and on about the great memories I've had here at Cape May Tech but I'd be here all day through the good times in the bed I've come to learn so much about myself I found the importance of giving back and the acceptance of taking help the excitement of creating something new and the dread of starting over the joy of making an unexpected friend and who regret of losing one the fear of doing something new and the fear of moving on moving on is something I knew would come from the very first day I stepped onto my boss with friends that I've known for all my life ready to take on what's next but I just can't accept that it's actually happening and with such an abrupt ends of the year it's even harder to say goodbye to the people I've come to knows family living in this unprecedented time it's now more important than ever to look forward to the future each one of us are taking our first steps into our adult life and as scary as it may feel we're all capable of making it and think about it we are the only graduating class that can say that their high school career was ended because of that of a pandemic so at least we have that to say when were older leading off I'd like to thank every single person who's made the last four years of my life something special to my family friends and teachers thank you for showing me how amazing my time in high school could be and for giving me memories that will stay with me forever I also send out my thanks to those out there helping to fight the corona pandemic because we wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them good luck to each and every one of you and remember this is where the fun begins class of 2020 take this in this commencement signifies that you are now prepared to join the many men and women who have graduated from our school and have become positive contributors to our society while the last two months have brought you unprecedented challenges you have risen above those challenges and still found ways to bring positivity to your school your families and your communities as we all try to follow your example of courage through this test we also recognize that the past two months do not define you or your time here at Tech for the past four years your lives have been woven into the fabric of our Cape May Tech family you have learned many things during this time as you move forward towards your dreams I ask you to remember some of the lessons that you have learned over the course of your time as high school students remember how you learn to overcome obstacles no matter how challenging remember how you learn to build positive relationships with those around you remember how you learn to contribute to causes larger than yourself and remember how you learn to help your fellow classmates when they were in need for no matter what dreams you choose to pursue these lessons will guide you along your way and we know you have all learned these lessons because we've watched you grow and mature right in front of our eyes and finally remember once a hawk always a hawk I now certify that each of these students has successively completed the prescribed course retirement I am Sydney some place what's a zoom background today it's just the beach in the ocean all right first we need the first manner of businesses we need the Board of Education excuse me we need a movement I'm so sorry I don't like it I need a motion for the Board of Education to approve the minutes of the May 18th 2020 business meeting we've had the minutes prior to this meeting for examination so moved second like seconds a passage I like Davenport hi Cheryl fuller hi Dan Nicholas ribbon Otto hi Johanna Vasquez director hey Nancy cupca hi motion carries the second order of business is the public comment section do we have anybody wishing to make public comment we haven't received any public comment nor do we have anybody here in the district office in person okay thank you then we'll move directly on to the proposed issuance of working here spawns actually Nancy before we get into that all right could I just I'd like to take a moment to recognize Pete before we move into the rest of the agenda just formally as we mentioned a second ago tonight is district 99 Pete has obviously been a valued member of the district administration for many years and before that was at North High he is absolutely one of my most trusted advisors on our team and he has especially been steadfast in his leadership during times of crisis in our district and I will miss him greatly as a member of our team our district has been well served and well represented by Pete both locally and at the state national level he's been essential in our equity work for years has helped us to diversify our staff by also being focused on supporting new staff as they join the district and become long-standing members here I found it interesting Pete chose this quote for his retirement video which was often when you think you're at the end of something you're the beginning of something notes and that's from their address red Rogers and although people didn't have time here in district 99 he was retiring and moving on to a new role in the lake for school that schools as their director of human resources you'll be lucky enough to serve two school boards there and we wish them the best of luck in his new role and we're glad that you'll still be around for when we need them so Pete thank you and good luck all right thank you I I don't know what to say very kind very gracious really enjoyed my time here worked with a lot of great board members over the years I think we've had a really good relationship and you guys have been great hands moving forward the district's been here for a hundred years before us they'll be here 100 years afternoon so none of us are you know too important here that we can't be replaced so thanks thank thank you Pete you know peeling some pretty big shoes to fill and I think I speak for everybody when I say we are all appreciative of everything you've given the district and to each of us and frankly as excited as we already have some somebody new come in with some fresh ideas were all we're all just so grateful to you and we're all gonna miss you terribly and we don't all wish you the best of luck absolutely man seen here hear your kind spirit and I didn't realize that you didn't get the memo that all the retirements have been [Laughter] canceled due to this this these uncertain times we agree with that Pete sorry yeah yeah thank you Peter I could I I've so appreciated your your wisdom and I think somebody said something about being steadfast and and oh you just always calm and you know we've now our board meetings past boards haven't always been calm you certainly were and and just a real guiding light for us also I we're gonna miss you I'm going to miss you so thank you again feeding wish you the best of luck yeah yes thank you very much thank you thank you Pete for all that you've given to this district it's we can't even mention at all it's just fabulous and I I myself I'm gonna miss sitting next to you and and ribbing you about the Brewers thank you you take care thank you interject that there all right so working cash bonds as we've just a couple of times here in the past just with his sure Alger said in these uncertain times and not knowing fiscally what's going to happen moving forward especially the state level we're going to be making a recommendation of issuing ten point three million dollars in working cash bonds and I'm going to turn it over to mark to say a couple of comments on that you can't expel my thunder exactly the economy is really what I'm looking for to go next two years or so as what has was concerned you think about the deficit that the federal on a state level and how they just ballooned up even worse at the last year that creates you uncertainty of their ability to provide a consistent revenue stream to us and so we've always had this safety net which is a debt service extension base where we could issue potentially twenty to thirty million dollars worth the bonds it's what you have an emergency and so we're using a little bit of that not all of it but a little bit of it and primarily just because the signals are out there that we probably should fortify so because we should expect over the next couple years but also that the interest rates are extremely low right now and they make it so that we'll probably get this done for less than two percent cost and it's just I think just the right thing to do for the district at this time to fortify OEM if we're wrong and we have no issues and our revenue comes in and we you know start building our reserves back we can always pay the debt service from the front row seat we can just pay it off and so we it's almost we could almost undo this if we needed to more felt that was deserve to do over the next three or four years so it's just trying to make sure we have doing our best putting our best foot forward and making sure that our in our ability to serve our students as well as we can and there's a lot of service issues also I think it just reminds of it's not going to be the same old school for the next couple years even and particularly this year and then getting back on our feet you know with the kids and the normal teaching program said we're used to all those factors came to waiting on it and that would require fancy tonight Italy after this speaking as to another hearing a petition for cash bail any questions [Music] very none we we will move on to that announcement the Board of Education of the district intends to sell bonds in the amount of ten million three hundred thousand dollars for the purpose of increasing the working cash fund of the district the bond issue notification act of the state of Illinois as amended requires the board to hold a public hearing concerning the board's intent to sell the bonds before adopting a resolution providing for the sale of bonds I hereby call a public hearing to be held at 6:30 o clock p.m.
