yes that's great and what's the range on that is it 16 to 30 or is it is it 20 to 20. because that number is in person so in class um so you're going to and you might know this off your head top of your head better than me laura someone sir sure clifton creek probably has that lower ratio um probably 16 to 17 per teacher and then our higher end probably um would be rock creek um which teeters around 27 to one that doesn't that that could be right up that's off the top of my head i could be out there and katie dave could be saying oh we're at 28 laura and so i missed that one but that's that's about where we are um so and we do have that span so so having spent all day with a four-year-old and a two-year-old my grandkids and and my wife and i like the fact that there's two of us it's a one one to one ratio there in elementary school do we have um ta availability at all our schools that's fairly consistent per student so that that is a that is a something that we're working on we do have prime time tas in our buildings our title schools have the opportunity to have title tas we did have people that resigned um over the summer due to the covid situation or i wanted to to stay home with my children who are bridge so we have had that happen and we're in the process of replacing laura i should know but i don't what is prime time ta i don't know what that means so prime time originally was working with our um with our primary students but now are we what we consider to be a prime time ta can work with any group of students at our elementary level okay and we just kept that same title okay okay so it's it's all the tas that aren't a title that's right okay thank you sorry i should have known that but i don't know that so again that classification helps support all students and their needs we do have a few openings still when we talk to those principals are you getting applicants some are saying very few um so so they're trying to to look at those who when there are those openings and getting those hired as soon as possible yeah so it does take time we've got the budget for them we just have to find the people that can and will do it we definitely want to replace the ones we've lost qualified okay yeah and there is a difference between buildings though in terms of i think you asked a question jeff about yeah per student basis is that similar there are differences among the buildings based upon title one buildings and other other situations like that so we might have a few more tas in one building than we do another well i think about laura's example if you've got a few few students at clifty uh and and tas and if you've got a lot of students at rock creek and not as many tas right it just exacerbates the challenge for the teachers right i know it's a little more crowded and hard hurts social distancing but that one extra adult's got to be huge yeah yeah nelson might be able to take a group of kids and go somewhere else exactly to walk to another part of the building or outside or whatever right and then on on secondary then teresa if we said go spend our rainy day money and find us 30 more teachers would you slap me for such a silly suggestion because there's no way you could find 30 more teachers it would be tough this time of year maybe to find 30 more teachers but we if you said we needed to find 30 more teachers we do our best to do i mean for the ratios where we're challenged in the in the in the secondary middle school and high school that's about the only real viable option is if we had more just more staff right yes and we'd probably want to consider them as temporary staff yeah yeah oh yeah yeah we're we're working with the crisis right now right yeah all right okay dr roberts do you have any idea at the end of week four how many parents may come may tell you that they're bridge students they now want to send them back to in person is there a is there a inkling of okay we tried to bridge we don't like it we're coming in person and and by the way can they go the other way and they go from they they can also go from in person to yeah we yes yeah and part of the challenge is trying to make this research so those numbers again um moving more from bridge into traditional but we have had a few who were traditional and saw some of the changes and said we'd like to go to bridge right so more again coming from traditional into bridge we didn't fully understand what was happening or our wi-fi connection even though we've given them hot spots or just not um it's just not a good fit for them or their situations change with with their daycare and so now we want to physically come back in the building we've had more of that do i have a hard number no but i do know from the 11 principles that i work with it's been at least a handful in every building that have come back that have already come back well some some of his first day but we also said though that we asked the parents who who said we want to do bridge to make a four-week commitment right that's correct yeah we also did four weeks since the next friday before right it does but before that time we have been making adjustments for for parents or students to come back into the school and or go to bridge so um the the numbers have have held pretty close to 3 200 students in our remote options since the beginning of school and so that number coming in and out has has had to be roughly the same because the net outcome has been around that 3200 total but every every change is a conversation with the principal at the elementary level the counselors at the secondary um to say tell us more about this situation tell us why what do we need to think differently about how can we help you better with your child in this pathway and some it's it's a natural absolutely we need you or let's see what happens in the next week or so let's give it a little bit more time so those are definitely conversations with every child who every student and family who says i need a change so we we do dig into the why behind that change okay thank you laura sure and board members i know we're in the we hour three this meeting but i promise i just have only one more question dr roberts you mentioned the the the bcsc specific measures the your 4.4 positivity test rate and and the fact that the isdh has said they intend i i read the same thing that by no later than the end of september they intend to publish that information is it your understanding that would be it would be very similar information to what you published what the paper carried last week yes but i think and and kelly helped me out here is is it a daily reporting with the state department of health yeah so we're still yeah right what i believe i heard was potentially a daily per building reporting okay now that's going to lag behind again as as that data all gets recorded and passed through the system from the bartholomew county health department up up through there but potentially daily per building i don't think per capita rate which is on here is is a part of that we tried to just make a comparison right yeah try to be comfortable right all right mr caldwell on that dr roberts on that item a watch out is going to be that i think you said every week we're going to release building numbers and give updates and already i've heard there are possibly some differences between for example you're counting a bridge student who's not been in the building as a case is tested positive is reported as a positive and i have no reason other than personal experience to believe that isdh will do something different but you just can't predict how they're going to want the data and it's going to look like well last week when we make the switch from our own to isdh we need to be doubly strong in our communication efforts about why the numbers might look different right yeah yeah good point sure we have the secret decoder ring on what the that one translates okay because no matter what system you've developed the isdh will have something that's good watch out sure yeah that's a good watch out james can we just segregate out the bridge students and just lump them all into a bridge category we could um right so i guess per building you could do that because i mean it it right now we may have a building that's only had bridge students and it's reporting as one or whatever the number might be it's only been a bridge student but again we'll we'll take a look at that see what the best way to report it is the the i believe the state department of health is going to report it based upon the school that child is enrolled in and so we can report it and slice it even further to try to give information to the community but i think the public reporting that's going to occur is that students enrolled in this building and even if they they don't come into that building physically they are enrolled for us so it'll count that way so the other uh mr caldwell the the other issue that she raised that scared me a little bit because we've been accommodating and as people want to move from bridge to in person in the building or vice versa we've we've made changes a student here and the student there after doing the research that we need to do about the move being appropriate we're not anticipating a change of status for hundreds and hundreds of students at the end of week four are we no okay no but the way it's set up right now is that a possibility i i i don't think so i i mean it was in terms of the matrix and how we laid it out we were looking at a four week commitment but even though that's what's there our open dialogue with parents has been all along when you're ready to come back let's try to figure that out if we have a kid who's in our classroom right now needs to go to bridge or the columbus virtual pathway um let's figure that out so we are not seeing the dialogue bill laura that we're having that that's that four week mark is all sudden gonna result in a large number going the other direction thank you board members anything else on this topic thank you for your comments and and observations and questions let's move to item five on our agenda dr roberts you have uh items five eight through i do thank you so let me just jump into those in terms of these are consent agenda items requests for approval i start with the minutes of the regular school board meeting from august the 10th that was the end of our first day of school you have a list of supplemental contracts for various educators in our system for all the reasons that are listed there field trips and professional leaves you had a list of those i think just one on that list actually in school fundraisers we had a couple as we are starting to get at least back into school and have some extra cricket or other activities happening claims in payroll we had only one set because we had others on august the 10th the total for that set of funds was about 870 thousand dollars uh payroll one set of payroll uh claims august 14th so a little over two million dollars for that and then uh the teacher appreciation grant policy this is a required piece for you each year that's actually lifted that first part there from policy 32 20.01 and then you also have a hard copy at your places and we're not changing the policy what this indicates or says basically is the grant what the teacher appreciation grant policy says is that when we receive our teacher appreciation grant dollars from the state of indiana we'll divide it in the following way that only teachers who have received an effective or highly effective rating will receive the grant dollars teachers who have a highly effective rating will receive 25 percent more than the effective teachers so that has been what we've done the last four years i believe and just repeating that policy and then i have at the last meeting we had board dialogue around the changing of regular school board meeting locations and so i wanted you to formally approve that so that we could list the administration terrorist room as the location for the dates that you see on the screen that allows us to maintain this format and for transparency purposes with with josh having the ability to just keep the equipment basically managing this way every time we pick this up and move it to a new setting new situation maybe for one meeting and we're trying to replicate or duplicate that also as we talked about the last time as we're trying to manage covet 19 manage this stuff going on the buildings we're not sure those sure those buildings need to have us in them um a couple of times a month or even once a month if it's those other buildings i did list through january 11th january 11th would be by statute the reorganization meeting for this board so you'll be determining officers swearing in board members determining the meeting locations and dates again for the next 18 months typically is what we do so we can determine the locations following january 11th based upon what you choose right so those are the items that i have thank you you're welcome dr roberts i'm i'm going to ask you to go back to jerk this page up as you're doing it um which one uh the one you had with the board meeting okay there we go yep uh board members do i have a motion to accept items um 5a through g is presented kathy uh motion second second thank you mr bryant uh dr roberts i think that's september 14th and 28th is that right oh you are correct thank you yeah i will try i would go in and edit but i think i'll mess up nick's piece but yeah make sure that was voting on that was me because it's the date is different but um any questions for dr roberts on this or miss heine on the policy the teacher appreciation teresa that is exactly as we have done in the past past four years okay all right if there's no questions all in favor of uh items five a through g approving those as presented by dr roberts indicate by raising your hand and saying aye aye aye all opposed same sign motion carries unanimously thank you dr robert you're welcome thank you miss heine human resources recommendations thank you i'm requesting approval of the human resource recommendations as presented this evening thank you board members you had that information in your board packet do i have a motion to accept the recommendations as presented by ms heine so mobe thank you miss dahl dwyers for a second thank you mr persinger any discussion all in favor indicate by saying aye and raising hand thank you all right all opposed same sign that motion carries unanimously hurtling to the end board input and review mr steiner any mr stinner anything else tonight i've already changed your name tonight that's fatigue sitting in sorry miss day health dwyer i'd just like to thank everyone that has reached out to us board members and brought some questions or concerns that they may have you know not all of it was concerns we had a lot of you know folks say thank you for keeping the doors open my kid is happy and thanks and i just especially like you know appreciate people that come and you know bring uh bring it to the full board here and especially um hearing from our columbus educators um i think that's a nice thing to hear um you know the good bad and ugly you know we we can't keep everybody happy but you know as long as we continue to try to make the effort and try to make it perfect um we're given that effort and i really appreciate that and thank you amy for being here this evening thank you kathy dr bills um i'm going to echo miss dwyer i mean i i'm glad everybody came out to speak tonight i was glad to see the participation and i also liked the questions on the everybody asked and i thought it was a very you know productive board meeting and we heard a lot of ideas and suggestions and and uh i just appreciate everybody's hard work and and just want to echo especially the hard work by the teachers um that are on our front lines right now and our teacher assistants i can't forget those bus drivers all those people thank you dr bills mr kersinger i just wanted to pay you back on what mr brian said earlier i would like to see us bring that 3112 policy up for a vote for revision specifically getting rid of sections b and c entirely there's no reason for them to be there i would like to see that up for a vote in the next board meeting or two all right james just one thing you should know one of the bad habits i learned at cummins is when you've got a good idea i'll probably turn around and ask you uh to work on it but i know you you'll be willing to help with the word smithing it and doing that so you and pat maybe i i'll lean on you to help us come up with a draft of something that we can look at is that all right sounds good all right good thank you pat and james i i i think you've got five other interested board members in and let's taking a look at it as well we've mentioned it several times over my tenure being here so far so it'd be nice to see something done with it thank you mr bryant anything else no i guess i have to echo the mistake of our doctor down there i'm finished okay well that's what happens when you sit in the back row you know rich and i are trying to carry y'all so it's dinner and diller steiner and diller back there okay dr shed anything from you i was i was just so glad to hear everything that was shared today and i appreciate it very much i appreciated that somebody reminded us we've only been in school 10 days um so there's i appreciate the work that's been done and it's continuously being done i think we've seen evidence of the things that we've heard at the last meeting even things that we heard today that the corporation has already addressed and i hope that reflects faith that will continue to address things as they come up it's only been 10 days um is i've been trying to figure out it's interesting to me that the comments have changed i mean that it's it's a new iteration so there's been i mean first it was like why on earth are you opening because 72 percent of our families wanted us open so we had to and but then to find ways to come up with you know the right balance and to offer options we figured that out over the summer and that was the focus so now i feel it's not that we're fine-tuning i know it's more substantive than that but i appreciated that the comments were helping us okay we've got here we got three choices now how do we refine them and get them better and and i'm quite optimistic about that and i think that's what i appreciate and i appreciated that observation in what was shared with us today thank you dr shedd dr roberts anything else from you this year thank you mr coleman you know we really got focused on july 20th our board meeting on july 20th that was where we first saw the proposal for how we would reopen and at that time if you go look at our numbers our community numbers in june things are actually looking better and then it looks like maybe collectively as a community we really misbehaved over the july 4th weekend and that this has been the results of the numbers but but this group this administrative leadership team aired on the side of trying to offer choices and and you know we heard tonight that we have some some parts of the county that are taking advantage of bridge learning only at a 10 to 12 percent level and other parts of the county that are taking advantage of 45 percent of them and as you can imagine then again trying to standardize our public offering and yet and yet find a solution that's very different than how we've delivered education what i hope miss reed was seeing from us is that attracted them to this community um it's a different set of circumstances so we are two weeks in i do think you do week one just getting to know each other and finding out where the where the the exits are and week two has confirmed some of our gaps we've got gaps there's no doubt and i'm confident dr roberts you and your team know there are gaps sure and and are committed to working to those ms reed i'm i'm most i'm i'm less disheartened about the performance that we've had in delivering education than i am about the attitude you experienced um in your call that that's performance we're we're going to drop the ball sometime that's i learned that a long time ago you you make errors but man you can't you can't have the attitude of well tough luck right you can't do that i i want to apologize to you and your family personally for that that disheartens me uh and and and i know we'll do collectively what we can to make sure that that's that's not an experience you have with us again or any of our families have with us again i just i just want to say that that you know from this point before we know we've got to get better and we are two weeks in but that's that's 1 20th of our school year uh a little more than that has gone by right now and and uh that means we've only got 19 more of those chunks uh 17 more really to to work on so we have to get better i said on the 20th it's going to take a lot of patience and a lot of grace with each other i don't think it means silence though i'm really glad the nine of you that spoke tonight spoke thank you for sharing the things that aren't working we don't expect you to come and say boy you guys are doing great you know that's all right we break our own arms patting ourselves on the back enough we'll do that for ourselves but we do need to hear all of those opportunities to get better so thank you for doing that uh for continuing to bring focus to us we know we have lots of places to get better and i i already am seeing some of that improvement it's just we've still got a long way to go and and and continue to pray that we won't have to deal with cove at 19 constraints for a lot longer but i suspect 2021 will look a whole lot like it so this school year will so thank you for that i would remind my fellow board members and those uh in the community we have uh we will meet again here on september 14th is our next meeting at 6 30 pm if there's nothing else for this board meeting then this meeting's adjourned you

is a regularly scheduled board business meeting we will begin our session with a moment of silence and then the pledge led by mr carr please stand for a moment silence please join me in the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all moving to item 1.04 ms wilson would you please call the roll miss jill humphreys here miss sheila eugetti here mr reed carr here dr charles santa cruz here miss larry wood here mr president all board members are present you have a quorum thank you mrs wilson item two approval of tonight's agenda is there a motion so moot thank you mrs humphries is there a second all second thank you mr carr any discussion seeing none we will move to the vote all those in favor of approving this evening's agenda please say goodbye by saying aye aye those pose the same motion carries five zero move to item 3 3.01 superintendents reports dr mccord thank you dr santa cruz governing board members let me connect here real quick and michael good evening governing board members and those in the audience as well as those online um thanks for being our meeting this evening uh tonight my presentation is going to focus on the health benchmarks as well as the teacher survey that we did last week and before i start i'd like to make sure everybody knows that there isn't a vote tonight for opening up on on september 8th hybrid in the letter i sent out last week weekend and per the um approved motion from july 29th i believe i was given the ability to move forward with that and because of time we needed to make sure that we did move forward and so on september 8th we'll be starting with the hybrid model so let me get to the benchmarks again the first few are just kind of a redo of what we did last week in terms of what the benchmarks are number of cases percent positivity as well as covet-like illnesses or hospital visits as well and again these are the benchmarks set forth by adhs and that kind of puts them in three categories of minimal moderate as well as substantial and you can see there by the percentages and the number of cases that go in each category again more criteria what that would look like for schools in each of those areas of course substantial we would continue online minimal to moderate would be a hybrid version and all of these areas that have a check mark in it are some of the mitigation strategies while there and then if we're in the green it's traditional delivery model and they have four out of the i think nine areas marked there and those are monitor absenteeism proper ventilation enhanced cleaning and hand in hygiene and respiratory etiquette again review from last week looking at the current maricopa county daddy data this came uh this is reported on the 20th for the week ending august 2nd criteria 1 77 out of 100 thousand it's green and it's trending down and please note that there's two areas that you can meet in uh in order to meet that benchmark one of two areas and that's declining cases or uh less than a hundred cases per 100 000 individuals for two consecutive weeks and of those in order to meet that benchmark you had to meet one of the two and we met the decline uh in cases for criteria two percent positivity is still in the red area it has gone down from july 26 to august 2nd a couple percentage points it's currently at 8.7 and criteria 3 went down from 5.3 to um i believe it's 2.4 it looks like 4 percent here but that's actually 2.4 and again that is trending down next looking at the gilbert public school boundary map area of course here's our area and we are currently in the yellow according to the maricopa county data and i'll get to that next and there it is just showing from week to week from the last two data sets as you can see uh we're trending down as well and i'll go to that data for the current criteria one we're at 51.46 per hundred thousand that puts us in the yellow criteria 2 is 6.14 percent for positivity and that's trending down and that puts us in the yellow and criteria 3 for hospital visits that's 0.3 percent again that area is in the green and again that information was updated on august 20th as well just a comparison between maricopa county department and arizona department of health services for maricopa county and the maricopa county dashboard for our school district for gps you can see the two side-by-side comparisons there for the county again for two areas that's green for gps it's yellow uh percent positivity is in the red at eight point seven percent for gps boundaries it's six point one four percent and hospital visits it's two point four percent for the entire county and for gps it's three point zero percent again both those green so i just wanted to throw that side by side comparison for everybody there dr mccarter yes i think i think they're different are the colors different on the maricopa dashboard versus the um the state dashboard because obviously there's less in the criteria one k straight there's less per 100 000 but it's in the yellow yeah once you get below 50 i believe it's yellow but remember for the green they had two areas there you could meet declining so that's why you're calling it green because it's met that benchmark correct and same way look at that twice too okay and same with the percent positivity we haven't met the seven percent according to the dashboard that was a couple weeks ago but but it is actually in the moderate if you look at the moderate what you showed a couple slides ago no no for the state oh yeah for maricopa county for the first um the adhs dash maricopa county right if you look it says between five to ten percent is in the moderate even though we're looking for a seven percent um number yeah and this is what they coded it as okay i'm just yeah i'm just i'm just confused by the dr mccorma may i dr santa cruz if i may uh sorry i think it's miss wood that always says dr santa cruz if i may but uh um i think the reason that's still red on the county is because it has not hit it two weeks in a row uh that's and i think it's also important to recognize on the positivity rate that criteria one and criteria three let me first say criteria one and criteria three the yellow and the go mark if you will coincide with the top of the yellow but in the positivity the yellow range is five to ten percent but the go mark is seven percent so we can be yellow and not be under seven percent for two weeks because it's between five and seven correct correct so in this case the the the red on the county is because the previous week was not lower so it when when the new week comes out that was transitioned to yellow but we still need to be under seven percent for two straight weeks which we are within gps for one week but have not been for two right we were at ten point something percent the week before i think in the positivity i i if i remember on the gps we went from ten to eight to six roughly but uh but not two weeks below that seven and again i told you guys that updates you each board meeting that's where we're currently at um for those of you playing governing board bingo at home this fills the bottom left-hand square um any other questions on that i'd like to share with you the teacher survey data um last week dr mccord i have a dr record i have a question yes please um if i remember the original motion was that we would not um start until we met the criteria so between now and when we start is exactly two weeks correct september eight yes so what happens if you don't meet them then if we don't meet the criteria then we continue to stay online i mean i think that's what we would have to do based on the motion of the governing board thank you you're welcome teacher survey data last week last wednesday evening and i said this at last tuesday's board meeting that we needed to survey the teachers to find out what their intentions were when we started on september 8th in the hybrid model and so teachers weren't uh surveyed there was 2133 surveys sent out to our certified staff of that 166 certified staff did not respond i think some of that's because they well for a couple reasons i we've got some emails saying they didn't respond because they don't feel it's safe others i just don't i just don't think they responded i'm not going to read into those that haven't told us why they haven't responded but we did receive some emails uh with my other statement of those cert of those certified 92 percent um returned their surveys 1967 of that 92 said they returned to campus uh 8 was go to or stay at global looking at the basically the survey questions and how they responded i am currently assigned as an elementary flex teacher and will return to in person on september 8th 40 of them said they would i'm currently assigned as an elementary flex teacher but i'm unwilling to return in person despite the listed safety protocols on september 8th to people i'm currently assigned to a campus on return in person on september 8th 1750.

i am currently assigned to a campus but unwilling to return in person despite the listed safety protocols that was 36. i'm currently assigned a global but wish to return in person on september 8th 18 people said they were willing to do that and i'm currently assigned to global academy full-time and wish to remain in this position and that was 121 people again for a grand total of 1967.

after that we have put out a survey to our families so we know their intentions about coming back in person or remaining at global we're currently tabulating those that closed yesterday evening and we have some preliminary but not ready to share that just yet because i want to make sure all the information is accurate we'll share that at our next board meeting and so after all of that is determined otm will be making sure we have placements in the right area and uh accommodate those that we can and for those that we can't the otm will have discussions with them about what their intentions are moving forward so i wanted to make sure i shared that with you and the community let you know how that survey came out other than that that's my report for this evening thank you dr cord we'll now move to item 4 and that is request to speak to the governing board we have several requests would you please play the recorded message the board may make an open call to the public during a public meeting subject to reasonable time place and manner restrictions to allow individuals to address the public body on an issue within the jurisdiction of the public body at the conclusion of the open call to the public individual board members may respond to criticism made by those who have addressed the board may ask the staff to review a matter or may ask a matter be to be put on a future agenda however members of the board shall not discuss or take legal action on matters raised during the open call to the public unless the matters are properly noticed for discussion and legal action during the open call the board requests that speakers refrain from voicing complaints against school personnel or any person connected with the district as it may impact due process rights policy k e k e b and k e d are provided by the board for disposition of legitimate complaints including those involving individuals forms required for use of these policies can be obtained from the gilbert public schools website thank you and i will apologize in advance i do not intend to mispronounce your name but very likely i will and if i do please correct me as you reach the microphone restate your name so that we have it correct first speaker will be matthew oskowitz followed by so safa herm mendy followed by joe goosick thank you sir i'm here to uh i was here last board meeting and obviously the crowd has been appeased because we don't have that many speakers as we did last time but one thing i want to do caution is again you know we're opening planning to open the school up we're still haven't met our criteria yet hopefully we will um but my point i want to make is there's three if history repeats itself when we look back at history we had tuberculosis in the late 1800s we had polio in the 1950s we had the spanish flu in the early 1900s and all those were maintained or retold by a severe measures and i guess i kind of find it a little upsetting as everyone seems to be concerned about the kids getting back to school which i can appreciate but we're only talking about a few months here in terms of being safe we're not talking years or anything like that we're just talking about you know taking a few weeks out and making sure everything is all right before you move forward so and i appreciate the board in terms of them moving forward with opening the school and the safety protocols that have been put in place i can appreciate that one of my concerns also is is with the you know i notice that on the agenda items is the insurance so obviously this the board is taking it seriously that there is a liability issue that comes with opening up the schools and i'd recommend moving forward with that insurance just for protection of the school itself in terms of its financial one of the other concerns i have is i know that we have we had offered three options to the school district the flex the in-person and the global academy and we offered that to all the school body unfortunately it seems that we've eliminated the flex for the lower grades and i have concern with that because that seemed to be an option that was offered it was presented last week it's been taken off the table my concern is i do have a son in that flex thing is now that if he moves the global academy if that's the choice i make he's going to behind because global academy has their own process and curriculum and now he's going to be if he goes to global academy he's going to be behind the ball in terms of what he needs to be finished so i kind of feel a little jilted the fact that you know three options were given one option was taken away and now um we're trying to scramble to figure out how we're going to do that thank you thank you sir safa good evening board members i am sophie mendy i'm a senior at gilbert classical academy as you are aware we are quite concerned with the decision to return back to school on september 8th a mere two weeks away although gratefully the number of covet cases are much lower than the beginning of july which was around 5 000 cases we fear a sudden increase in numbers which is highly likely however the greatest concern is returning to school in the first place so soon along with the lack of testing how can we maintain safety and health if we are not going to be are going to at the very least check for symptoms or temperature or even have covid testing mandatory before coming to school at this point it feels like i have to choose between my health or education which are two of my main priorities and i appreciate the social distancing precautions that you have all arranged for the public and i find it very telling that nearly five months into the pandemic we don't have a virtual option for public comment especially for students myself i have respiratory issues and yet i'm here because i feel i must share these concerns with you how can i feel confident in your decision making you making when you don't have fully safe mechanisms i know i'm not alone and i know that there are hundreds of other students who had to choose their education over their health when they are at risk of catching coronavirus and spreading it around their family members i shouldn't have to be here to have my voice heard it should already be recognized that we will lose friends and family if we return so soon we will lose classmates teachers and staff once again i ask for you to reevaluate your decision to return on september 8th and please consider the surges in positive cases in states that have returned in person thank you thank you joe gusik board president fellow board members all gps staff parents taxpayers and last but not least students my name is joe goosick and i'm the lovable slightly annoying american i'm the education lorex i'd like to give a shout out to one of the community members obviously this is a time of stress but it's always nice to have a little bit of fun with the bingo board here as i speak to the bingo board maybe we should have a real bingo board and put our real money in it because there is going to be costs you saw the cost for this additional insurance nobody enjoys the situation that we're all in i don't enjoy wearing a mask i don't enjoy wearing having to wash my hands so much i don't enjoy uh having to use hand sanitizer i think i only used it twice in my entire life before covet i don't like to be six feet away from people i like the shake people's hands so what i'd like to share with you is what came out from the cdc just the other day and it ever changes and that's part of the problem that we have here things keep changing and it said preparing k-12 administrators for a safe return to school in the fall of 2020 huh that's an interesting title we've already started so as i did on a post i want to apologize to the children to the educators to the staff to the superintendent and to you the board members i should have spoke up in march at the latest april we knew exactly when that date was to start our schools it's obvious the cdc didn't know that because they are in the northeast and they all start after labor day but one of the things that they say is engage and encourage everyone in the school in the community to practice preventive behaviors these are the most important actions that we will all support schools safe reopening and will help them stay open i ask all community members to agree to the rules of the road we knew what we know we now know what we need to do we need to follow a solid ppe strategy day in and day out do not deviate because i'm sure it's not going to be a nice day if we have to start shutting schools back down again two we need to make sure that we have access to 24-hour testing at least and personally if the president united states can have rapid testing then shouldn't we the president united states has 18 people that back up his position it's a succession plan since nineteen forty seven today currently sixteen people of those qualify but in this reality of this day we all have to do things that the president doesn't have to do it's no knock on him if it was any other president so i say let's have a strong ppe strategy let's have that 24-hour testing or better and when we do open our schools that we do it successfully and we do it with continuity thank you thank you sir next up jocelyn kauser after michael langford and then iman massaud and finally sophia hammer hi there i heard someone say that there's not as many parents here tonight because we've probably been appeased i want to assure you that is not the case that is why they're that is not the case why there are not as many parents here we are tired we are so tired of watching our kids struggle feeling like our voices aren't being heard of feeling like we're being strung along of watching the goalposts be moved and moved and moved and having no answers for our children when we see them struggling at home when my neighbors call me and say what should i do i we i don't know what to tell them i don't know what to do for my own kids so that is probably why many aren't here tonight um i know that you guys have heard from so many parents over the last weeks pleading to get our kids in school i know that you've heard all the statistics of the dangers of keeping them at home of the suicide rates of the depression of the academic shortfalls that we're encountering there's so many things and i could go over all of that tonight but instead i am just here because i want some answers parents in our district have decisions to make and we need to make some decisions this week i know that there are many that have pulled out i know there are many that are ready to pull out this week if we don't have a plan or some answers in place continuing like we are now is just not an option for many of our kids i know last week jill mentioned she doesn't think the kids are behind they are behind so many are failing kids that have never even gotten less than a b in their lives are failing several classes there are so many struggles going on right now and we just feel like the goal post keeps getting moved we just don't know exactly quite what we're working for and that's that's what we need to know that's what we're hoping tonight that we get some solid answers of what this is going to look like i really just want you to give us a reason to stay i have four kids three of them are still in the school system and i need you to tell me tonight why i shouldn't pull them tomorrow give me a reason to stay give me a solid plan of when i can expect that their education will resume because what they're getting right now is not the education that gilbert public schools stands for that they've had in the past or that they would even be proud of what they're getting now is just subpar and i can't as a mother sit by and watch it any longer so i would like to know what is the plan what is it going to take what is this september 21st date does that really mean anything or is that just another goal post that's going to be moved along the way i want to know what it's going to take and what our chances are of getting there i'd also like someone to answer how many students we've lost this year what that financially is going to look like for our schools next year and how we're going to move on from there i know my time is up again i know everybody has a choice clearly there's people that don't feel comfortable coming to school and i want them to stay home and take advantage of that online option but for the 92 percent of the teachers that want to be there and the rest of us that want our kids there i'm just asking that you honor that choice thank you dr santa cruz if you don't mind i'd like to clarify something go right in um i just want to clarify my statement from last week it wasn't that i don't feel like kids need additional help i just don't want us to label them as having deficits because we're all in the same boat everybody's struggling with this and what i want is to give our kids a growth mindset that they are capable and competent and that they can overcome these challenges and that's what i was trying to say last week my apologies if it sounded different mr langford thank you members of the board um gps has consistently stated that families have a choice between on-campus instruction and online schooling but it seems dishonest to say this when global academy is not an option uh for for my child or for some other families that we know uh global academy is not equal in uh to on-campus instruction in the sense that they don't have the same classes offered on global academy as they can offer for on-campus instruction my son is a senior at highland high school and is in advanced classes including his capstone courses he's in he's working towards his stem diploma and he's doing all ap classes he's in line to graduate with both the them and ap diploma which as far as we know is the first time that's a student has ever accomplished that at highland however if we chose global academy most of his classes aren't offered on global academy so it means it leaves our family feeling much like the student we heard from earlier from gilbert classical feels like we're having to choose between his education and our health and safety we believe that the school district's not yet reopen to on-campus instruction instruction to read some context the numbers we heard earlier the our current covid case level is higher now than it was when the stay-at-home order was lifted back on may 15th and after that stay-at-home order was lifted cases began to skyrocket and arizona became a coronavirus hot hotbed with new cases peaking about six weeks later and coronavirus deaths peaked in mid-july and nearly five thousand arizonans have died from this disease uh with all these numbers in mind it's clear that we should not be reopening at this time we're primed to make the same mistake again using a benchmark of percent positive cases is flawed uh because a significant portion of coronavirus cases go undetected the number of actual infections is likely much higher as 40 percent of people infected show no symptoms although young children who are often asymptomatic may be less likely to spread the disease the same is not true amongst high schoolers which makes opening secondary schools especially dangerous at this time even if we look at the percent positive cases tested it was at the same level in mid-may than it is now turns out that it was not safe to reopen our economy then and it isn't safe to reopen our schools now um there are some additional important data i think that needs to be considered as well which is at 10 to 20 of coronavirus cases are responsible for eighty percent of chronovirus transmission so it doesn't take a lot of people to spread it to a lot of other people coronavirus spreads efficiently from people who don't know they are infected forty percent of virus transmission will have taken place before a patient exhibits any symptoms so this virus can quickly spread before anyone knows about it and super spreading occurs within indoor congregate settings with poor ventilation such as our schools i think i'm running out of time i think it's very important that we have a true and equal online alternative um if we're going to pursue uh with the reopening of on campus instruction so that students like my son and others that i'm aware of will be able to pursue their academic plan as they set out and be able to do so safely thank you thank you sir uh good evening board members i'm iman masoud a senior at gilbert classical as well and i'm here to voice my concerns about reopening schools on september 8th i acknowledge the precautions you've taken and appreciate and appreciate them however i am concerned that there isn't enough being done for the students of gilbert when the possibility of returning to school was brought up i was expecting for schools to be testing students temperatures and app and to have a clear guide of exactly what was going to be happening in schools once we were back but after reading over the countless amounts of emails all i know as a student is that students will be separated into two groups to minimize the amount of students on campus for two weeks there will be mandatory masks and sanitation systems will be provided my peers and i are confused at the lack of clarity that has been given to the students of gps we request prolonging online learning without the option of flex or in person completely thank you thank you hello board members i am sophia hammer also a senior at gilbert classical academy i'm here today to discuss my concerns regarding the recent reopening decisions put in place by the gps board trust me i want to go back to school as a senior i want to make this your count but not at the expense of my teachers and my peers i know there is an online option available that students can choose if they don't want to go back but this online option through global academy doesn't offer various classes like band choir orchestra and several language courses i want to receive a full and complete education but i don't want to become some kind of national experiment and risk my health by doing so choosing between health and education should never be something us students should have to pick between we reached we almost reached the three benchmark we're on that track put in place however arizona isn't offering teachers or students testing arizona isn't testing anyone that goes to school for symptoms or doing temperature checks arizona's testing is failing and several tests are on backlog so why are we rushing to send students and teachers back to school and risking lives when we can't even provide everything i just listed i don't want to see my teachers have to pick between teaching or leaving the school because they don't want to go back i am sad to see some of the teachers leaving the job and the school they so dearly love because the district decided to send them back and they don't want to get sick i don't want to continuously see my peers having to choose between education or health and i don't want to see my teachers and students dying because our board sent us back too early i urge you to consider and push back the date which is just in two weeks thank you thank you that was our final request dr mccord anything that you wanted to add is there the timeline for our reopening is would you articulate that for our audience and for those on live stream timeline for reopening uh september 8th would be the beginning of hybrid that would go for two weeks and for full in person or online would start september 21st thank you sir now move to item five doctor santa cruz yes mr newton i would like to have dr mccord clarify that is depending on meeting the metrics yes that is correct mrs eugetti that is if we are meeting the metrics at that time for both september 8th and september 21st those dates will be go with those plans uh implied for those dates and that's like i said only a recommendation from the governor but it is something that the health department has recommended that is correct thank you mr jetty and i i believe that is uh the caveat associated with any date that's proposed is when and if the benchmarks indicate we would then go back dr santa cruz yes if i may i so i guess are we saying that we are only considering data accurate if it has been published on one of those dashboards not if it's on the arizona department of health site because those are two and a half weeks lagging which i'm fine with i'm just saying is that the only official data that we're willing to look at that is the official data that we have been looking at if you as a governing board want to determine something different i think that'd be another discussion okay thank you moving to item five monthly reports uh what i'd like to do is take some license here and put item 5.02 ahead of item 5.01 dr mccord any introductory remarks regarding 5.02 school improvement bonds project of 215 to 219 series 2020 results i just would like to turn over to ms betts from our assistant superintendent of business services and she will introduce our guests and some good news thank you ms betts good evening dr santa cruz dr mccord governing board members i would like to introduce both megan burke and bill davis from piper sandler they are the district's financial advisors and they will present the very positive results from the recent bond sale so bill if you want to begin sorry could you speak into the mic a little more i'm not sure i'm not sure it's on attention from the invest republic and i'd like to walk through some of the details um teen authorization the sale date was at the end of july had maturities from 2023 through and including 2028 again one of the real primary reasons that i want to emphasize relative to why we got such an attractive rate was the district's strong bond ratings and as you can see from this we had a double a2 for moody's and the double a minus from standard and poor's and that really helps investors understand the district's credit and allows them to be you know willing to take to lend the district money if you will at such low rates the all in true interest cost so this is the true interest cost incorporating all expenses of the bond transaction came in at under one percent at actually 0.708 percent which is the lowest in district history and and we are at just all-time lows you know not only in the u.s treasury market but in the municipal market as well so it's just you know that interest rate is is the lowest that i've ever seen i've been around for a long time um never thought we'd see this day but it's pretty fantastic and if you think about it you know these dollars are being paid back by the district taxpayers so both the principal and the interest and when you can have that interest down at below one percent it's very inexpensive money and it allows more flexibility for the district going forward at a much lower tax rate at the same time so it's just pretty fantastic megan's going to talk about the orders received the volume the interest from investors as i mentioned the all ntic is the lowest in history we had been estimating an interest rate of around three percent you know prior to the election and even through you know the early part of this year this interest rate you know when you quantify the difference between that estimate and what we ended up with it's saving the district just under five million dollars of interest expense and over the course of that 23 to 28 you know that equates to about three cents a year on the tax rate which is pretty significant when you think about it um and again i think this positions the district very well for the next number of years as you sell the remaining authorization from from that 2019 election so again that lower interest rate expense just gives you that much more flexibility as we go into the future which you know is all obviously unknown um with that i'm going to turn it over to megan and she's going to kind of walk through the balance of the presentation thank you bill mr president members of the board thank you for having us here this evening as bill mentioned on the next slide um so in total we you know we offered uh 34 million 345 million dollars in bonds to get proceeds of 40 million as bill mentioned we received orders from investors of 220 million 775 thousand so um 6.4 times over subscription and why that's important is because it's supply and demand so the more orders come in the lower we can can reduce that yield um so on this slide you'll see as we mentioned you know there was maturities 23 through the the gray box is you know the par amount of bonds that was offered in each one of those maturities so for instance in 2023 that amount is 5 million 850 that maturity received investor orders of 37 million 200 and sorry 37 million 25 000 which is 6.3 times oversubscribed so each of the maturities was the same you received orders from investors such as blackrock u.s truck trust bank of america nuveen j.p morgan northern trust american family insurance goldman asset management eaton vance breckenridge capital so some really big names we're very interested in buying the district's debt one because of the credit rating that bill mentioned two the market is just interest rates are so low and you know they are they're looking for good solid arizona transaction or paper as we call it um on the following slide there's a lot of information here but i think to you know to point out to bill's um to to illustrate bill's point is in the bottom left-hand quadrant this is the mmd is the municipal market data this is what we priced municipal bonds off of so this is a range from 1982 to present so the first year year one that's the range of interest rates from zero up to eight percent so on and so forth the the um orange line is the average the blue line is current market so you'll see that we are at all time current at all time interest rate lows um so it was a really great time to enter the market um miss betts planned it perfectly and um you know we couldn't the strategy couldn't have worked out better that was all our prepared remarks and lessons i did tell her to to say that dr santa cruz i did have a question can you explain the um the graph that's in the lower right hand corner on the treasury movement recent mmd and u.s treasury movement can you explain that graph to us please yeah so um it's it's inflows and outflows so as money flows into the municipal market there's more paper or more money that's um being available to purchase municipal debt so you'll see um this is oh i'm sorry are you doing on the bottom right hand corner yes i'm sorry i'm sorry um this is recent mmd and u.s treasury movement so um this is mmd rates um you'll see the movement that they move so the two year is um has gone down two percent from where it started on seven one twenty okay correctly yeah the third year has moved down basis points nine basis points so it's just it keeps decreasing okay okay thank you board members any questions the calculated strategy that we discussed prior to this venture uh worked congratulations miss betts mr carter i'd just like to thank uh miss bets as they did i'd also like to thank bill and megan as they indicated this is a bond issuance but it's really a culmination of years of work to put the financial records and the reserves in place that resulted in this so this isn't uh it's wonderful that we timed it with the market but even had we timed it with the market had we not had the last couple of years of work to express our financials and address some of the issues we would have never realized this so thank you to all of our staff and this is a great win for the taxpayer thank you mr carr board members anything else miss betts are you going to speak to these other things then school improvement bonds projects of 2015 and 2019 or is that was that all part of this presentation yes that was um part of this presentation the fact that the 2015 and 2019 those are the authorizations so november of 2015 we sold the last eight million dollars of that and the 2019 authorization we sold the first 32 million dollars of that okay so it's a it's it's just a result of those combined uh regarding the total all-in interest costs to our taxpayer okay thanks and then are we going to have another presentation by you at some point showing us again how you're planning to spend this and the you know the the way that we use this money that's been approved by our voters to to maintain our schools and other things that they've approved it for yes we did transmit to our bond council that plan and it is the same as what was presented in may when we asked you to do the when we asked you to approve the resolution for the bond sale in addition we're required by statute to do an mno override and bond uh fiscal year update uh by the end of september so we will be doing that on the 22nd of september i think is the board meeting so that will and we will incorporate all this information in that great thank you other questions comments bill and megan we appreciate your work and your effort related to our bond sale and we're delighted with the results as you are i'm sure thank you appreciate it move back to item 5.01 monthly budget report dr mccord i will once again turn it over to miss betts for our monthly budget report so again so just a reminder that this is the first month of fiscal 2021.

again we are largely not operating in july so all of our students and teachers came back to school on the 5th of august so there's very little of transactions really reflected in the financials but there are some highlights that i did want to go through with you today so first of all again this is the same thing we presented last month that we are fully in the encumbrance period and actually almost through it now where during this time frame we do our last payroll runs we also are waiting for our final property tax revenues and that we are completing all of the payments of invoices etc through i think this friday is the last day of the encumbrance period so there will be a lot of activity going on again continuing until we present the afr the annual financial report to you all in early october next again wanted to talk about the budgeted funds so the budgeted funds the adopted budget is reflected which you approved on june 23rd again this is fiscal year 2021 and then the cash funds we do have an estimate of the beginning cash balances based upon the june 2020 financials and again these all will change as we're paying off invoices and releasing encumbrances and again we will share those changes with you when we present the annual financial report in early october so these are some of the details so you can see the maintenance and operations fund which is our largest general fund you can see that we have an available balance of 30 million dollars right now so again in july we haven't done any payments in the new year for teacher salaries or our school-based salaries so there are there's a lot of encumbrance that hasn't been encumbered yet at this point in time in addition that 30 million balance does include a contingency balance as well as our other stipends that are paid etc that are not encumbered so just wanted to share all of that but that is reflective of encumbrances associated with all with salaries and benefits again classroom site from the teacher's salary the same conversation that we are not fully encumbered on the teacher salaries at this point in time unrestricted capital we have talked over and over again about the care that we are using to allocate out capital dollars so we have engaged in several projects with marcy taylor as well as jason martin and now with karen coleman regarding performing arts needs and and stephen mcdowell regarding athletics needs throughout the school system so we are working actively on those decisions in cabinet so you can see that we've we've only approved just under six million dollars of spend in unrestricted capital and then finally the energy and water savings that is a a requirement that we take money out of out of m o and actually put it into the special fund reflecting a lease that we engaged in back in 2016 i believe so then that is the fund that we use to pay the debt service or lease payments for that energy performance lease that was adopted and approved in prior years any questions on any of those funds great thank you federal grants we've highlighted the title one that 3.5 million dollars on the adopted budget did reflect that we were going to carry over a hundred percent of unspent title there was a significant amount of unspent title due to the shutdown of the school district in early march so fortunately due to the federal government decisions we are allowed to carry over all available unspent dollars actually in all of our federal funds on this page and then note to the identification of esser so that is the elementary school and secondary emergency relief fund jill that was the acronym i almost forgot it again if you recall our allocation was about 2.3 million dollars we anticipated spending about a half a million dollars in 2020 however with the advent of the of the enrollment stabilization grant which we've been talking about a great deal over the last couple of weeks we anticipate that that we will move a lot of those expenses into that enrollment stabilization grant so we expect to revise the budget in december to reflect that to that full 2.3 million dollars to be spent in the 2021 school year any questions on any of that can you tell me what kinds of things are we planning to spend this 326 sr fund on so uh you don't have it encumbered at this point right the allowable spend is any any expense associated with coven 19 any other requirements that we had due to this pandemic and so right now we're actually going through all of the available funds to determine which expenses we should put in the enrollment stabilization grant which expenses we should put into esser and whether we have an ability to apply even for the fema grant dollars associated all these are associated with the covet 19 pandemic and relief from the federal government so as an example last year we incurred a great deal of expense in nutrition services and in community schools without having the commensurate revenue so those types of situations are eligible under the enrollment stabilization grant under the esser fund probably we would apply for the ex expansion of the florida virtual software to that again information technology has purchased many additional chromebooks for k5 as we've gone to more online online learning additional all the the pp e the plexiglass in our schools the additional cleaning materials the additional custodial work all of those items are actually appropriate expenditures to put into both the enrollment stabilization grant as well as the esser grant are there would it be something that we could put if we need to hire more staff for instance custodial staff for instance teachers to cover different needs that we have and that's our plan for that and and it's it's possible for us to do that but keep in mind that it is an enrollment stabilization grant so we are we have been provided a guard rail of 98 of last year's adm so this grant if we are if we are um this grant will give us even additional more protection that we've we've actually budgeted for and planned to spend a certain dollar amount based upon the budget that you all approved in june so again any expenditures that were related to covet directly are eligible but many of those would have already been budgeted so we're it's a means to protect the school district from having budgeted expenditures and making commitments and having the revenues and resources available to still meet those commitments but yes as we look into those and determine what our available resources are going to be we will then look at other strategies associated with adding additional custodians etc we we did authorize five additional custodians already to be to be hired as roving custodians throughout the school district just as an example so that expenditure would be eligible all the training that we did for our teachers to get them trained on the online platform this summer that would be an eligible expense that could be moved either into esser or the enrollment stability grant you will hear more about that that's what i'm wondering okay and then is this a is this something that we have this year to spend will this money be available just through 2021 and then if we don't spend it it will be gone the enrollment the enrollment stability grant is is ending we we have to apply for that on the by the 4th of september and we will know what our award is on the 40th day which is september 30th so we will know what dollar amount we are eligible for the enrollment stability grant and then we can only apply for expenditures from march 1st of last year march 1st of fiscal year 20 through december 4th of fiscal year 2021 which is december 4th of 20.

um and so that's the most constraining of all of the revenue sources but we also expect it to be the largest dollar amount so we are trying and then the esser grant is good through september 30th of 2022 it is actually the most flexible of the funding sources that have been provided okay thank you anything further on that any other questions so i guess uh maybe i'm reading in go ahead thank you thank you i guess i'm reading into uh miss woods questions are there opportunities to properly use these funds to further enhance the safety of our students and staff this year are there things that we've not been able to do that with these funds we we now can and should do so we are going through that assessment right now the biggest concern that is out there is not fully understanding what the enrollment stability grant is so the our understanding and what we presumed is that we would be minimally funded at based upon 98 percent of last year's adm what's not clear now is whether we have to apply for that and figure out those expenditures that would go against that so then once we have that information and yes then the 2.3 million dollars could be available to do further enhancements we have we have been very um careful in in cabinet though in all of our decision-making to make sure that we're not that we're absolutely providing the the n95 masks and face shields to all personnel that want it that we're adding as many protocols as we can as we can absolutely find to the cleaning associated with all of our all of our schools and our classrooms so we regardless of i guess how much was budget in the current year under normal circumstances we've still allocated out significant resources to meet those needs thank you and we just i think what i'm hearing and you can correct me if i'm hearing wrong is we have taken the steps that we think are appropriate and i would leave i wouldn't leave out the fact that we're also added air filters to the duct system because i think we get a lot of questions from teachers about the ventilation system um but what i'm hearing is we we may have these additional funds we don't yet know the flexibility of them so yes we're pursuing more options but we're waiting to make sure that we can spend those funds legally on those options is am i interpreting that correctly yes that's that's correct and we have made obligations to all of our staff um for the current year so we want to make sure that we have the revenues associated with being able to continue to pay them so that has been the the focus of our work over the last two weeks but to answer that question as well we're still investigating what can we better do for our bands and orchestras to provide safety for those students as an example karen coleman's been working very very hard at figuring out well can we get a mask for an instrument as an example so she's provided that information to us today we are we are getting the they call it a mystic mint or something that is a is a disinfectant that can be sprayed down horns etc and we are also uh authorizing to buy instruments so that instruments don't have to be shared just as an example with with our students across the school district you talked about the ventilation we had we have made decisions about ventilation and increasing the air flow even though we know it's going to increase our utility costs but we've still done that we are also still investigating the electrostatic filtration we haven't gone there yet but we are investigating that albert and i have a meeting this week to further investigate that presenting all of this to cabinet for approval and i'm at this point in time i think we in finance are just trying to figure out how much money are we going to get from the enrollment stability grant and then we do know that at 98 percent getting to of last year we would have to reduce our budget by about 2 million dollars that you adopted in june so we're looking at all those things and trying to make the best decisions on using all the funds in addition we spent a lot of time today with the with various organizations throughout arizona uh talking about another fund which is the fema emergency fund so we are investigating to find out whether gilbert is eligible for that as well and that would be a certain dollar amount that we would know pretty quickly so we're continuing to maximize our revenue resources figure out what the best thing is to do to provide the safety protocols for all of our staff and students so that we can move forward this year in gilbert one one more question so i guess this does reflect at some level that we are we do have enrollment decline as we we know and that we are concerned about that and also then i just wanted to ask one more question you you mentioned it already but when will we know the exact dollar amount from the enrollment stabilization so they are they're basing the allocation on the 40th day and at gilbert our 40th day is september 30th so that's still quite a ways away will you have any further updates or ideas or estimates before then we will because on the applications due on september 4th so we are receiving guidance next week from the state on how to estimate what our applica what our allocation will be and so based upon that estimate that will be what we will apply for and then we will figure out the expenditures that would be eligible under that okay thank you follow up on on her question obviously our funding is based off of adm which is a calculated number based on a number of variables the driver being the number of students but correct me if i'm wrong part of the issue that we're that we're addressing is the fact that the online student which all of our students are right now are funded at point nine of the adm so when our the mere fact that we're online decreases our adm so the the bulk of our change in budget is that that's why we have the equalization funding that's the theory behind the equalization funding is to say hey we know that you're being funded less under the state formula but we're going to make that up because we know that you know from the governor's office we told you to be online that's correct okay is it 0.9 or 0.95 well a full-time online if you average it it's 0.9 so full time online is 95 and part time is 85 percent okay okay okay additional questions go ahead miss bets so this next is just a summary of the state grants so the classroom site performance pay obviously we won't pay that until december and then instructional improvement that 172 000 is reflective of how we spent how we funded the expenditure of training all of our teachers in july to be prepared for the online platform at the start of school this is these are enterprise funds so these two funds are expected to provide the revenues to support their spend so these the estimated resources have been reduced significantly so just a simple piece of information normally at this time nutrition services is providing twenty thousand meals a day and to date we've only provided and it's actually increased to that two thousand meals per day so there's a great deal a significant amount of revenue loss in nutrition services in community school again we've been shut down with all of our rentals and though jared has generated has operated some vik programs during the summer the revenues are still significantly under what was what was received in the past so even under the enrollment stability grant the consideration of loss of revenue is also an allowable expense so it does provide us some opportunities to make sure that we remain whole going through 2021 and these are just some minor little funds that we have generally i just wanted to bring your attention to the unemployment insurance we have not taken unemployment insurance out of our payroll the district pays for it but it normally is deducted out of our payroll processing we are beginning that again to figure out what is the appropriate percentage that we should pull out of payroll to make sure that we have enough money to handle any unemployment requests throughout 2021 so you may see some revenues posted there in the future any questions on that are you going to let us know or let the teachers know how do you let them know about that what that will be so it doesn't hit them it doesn't it's a it's a district expense okay so it's not it doesn't it's it's just that we have to account for it and we and it goes through payroll so that we can have a means by which we're collecting the revenues so it's definitely a district expense okay just like our providing of medical benefits okay thank you these are the school student-based funds and then finally the bond and debt service fund so a couple of things over the last couple of days staff in finance has gone through these at a great at a great deal of detail because we have sold off the final authorization for 2015 and we've sold the first the first group of bonds for the new authorization of i'm going to skip this and go right into the bond fund projects year to date so you can see that we're showing just over 90 million dollars of bond bonds spent to date so we are going back and reconciling all of that we had an authorization of 98 million so 8 million dollars was authorized that we sold we just sold and completed so there are some issues with cost of issuance that we are that we've gone through and corrected now over the last couple of days so you'll see some changes to the schedule the other thing um is that we will then be presenting to you two financial reports one for fund 631 which represents the 2015 authorization that 98 million and we are moving towards fund 630 to make sure that we're keeping track of what we committed to in 2015 versus what we've committed to in 2019 so we will point that out to you as we get into the into the spending of this new of these new bond proceeds any questions on that okay great that's all i have that was enough thank you miss betts anything else i just want to say thank you for that great report i mean that was very in-depth and we learned a lot so thank you and again thank you and congratulations for the strategy on blonde sale and your efforts and your team's efforts on behalf of the district as we move through anything else board members seeing nothing else then we'll move to item six consent agenda items and we have an opportunity for items to be considered discussed or direction for possible approval is there a motion some moved it's been moved is there a second second thank you mr jetty any discussion i i had one item i just wanted to point out i just thought it was very generous of the larry fitzgerald foundation to donate a generous sum of ten thousand dollars to canyon valley school i i thought that deserved recognition that um that that's a school that can really use that support so thank you to the larry fitzgerald foundation for that generous donation thank you anything else seeing none then we'll vote on the consent agenda items all those in favor of approving the consent agenda as presented please signify by saying aye aye those oppose the same motion carries five 5-0 move to item 7 action items for consideration discussion and possible approval item 7.01 arizona risk retention trust covid 19 endorsement dr mccord thank you dr santa cruz governing board members as we've mentioned the past be asking for your approval of the arizona risk retention trust coven 19 insurance policy related to covet 19 this will protect us as a school district uh from any lawsuits associated with cobit 19 and ms betts is here to talk to you about that okay great um thank you uh so just to to begin um the we are recommending approval of purchasing the covet 19 special endorsement offered by the risk retention trust their in the risk retention trust as part of our normal liability insurance the any protection due to a transmission or an issue associated with coven 19 would not be covered the risk retention trust was not able to find re-insurers that would cover that and so they they um we felt and as a board member felt it was too much at risk to place the risk retention trust under that however staff along with the trust board came up with a recommendation to set aside 25 million dollars to provide coverage to school districts and community colleges throughout arizona so that's what this this endorsement is about so to get into some of the details conditions for eligibility so first gps must utilize either an acknowledgement and disclosure form or a waiver release an assumption of risk form so we we've made we are making the recommendation that we will use the parent guardian acknowledgement and disclosure form asking parents to sign sign that they understand that were in a pandemic and and all those those various things um and then we did provide the parent acknowledgement disclosure form on the agenda item we are making a recommendation however that the waiver and release form be used for all of our contractors that come on site anybody that we do business for that might be a consultant or somebody doing work on our school building so we are going to adopt that as part of our purchasing protocols moving forward this year in addition uh we need to make a good faith effort to implement a reopening plan which we have done and they're not collecting that the risk retention trust is not collecting that they just need to know that that we have one and then of course this endorsement is subject to all the other rules and regulations regarding all the other insurance coverages associated with the risk retention trust so limits of liabilities you can see that it'll be a million dollars each occurrence there could be more than one claimant so so it is ten thousand dollars in indemnity coverage per claimant um and then a two million dollar annual aggregate limit for gilbert public schools so we are covered up to two million dollars and then statewide it's a 25 million dollar aggregate limit so cost for gilbert public schools as one of the largest school districts in arizona will be 150 thousand dollars from july 1st through june 30 provided that we purchased the insurance by the 15th of uh of september which by approving it tonight we will we'll meet that and so then after september 15th the coverage would commence at the date of acceptance so the deductibles if we if we adopted a waiver and release form for all of our parents and students it would be a zero dollar deductible we opted to accept the ten thousand dollar deductible and go with the um disclosure and acknowledgement form for all of our parents if there is no waiver release or assumption of risk form or or no um or an acknowledgement form if there's a claimant that comes forward and did not sign either of these which is possible because we are not we are not requiring the signing of the acknowledgement form in order to access in in-person school then there would be a twenty thousand dollar uh deductible for each occurrence before i go any further is any any questions on any of that okay great question um if considering that we have a state with a lot of districts and a million students if the risk retention trust goes through the 25 million that they have set aside for this purpose will that then be on the districts to pay any further liabilities it will be okay it will be the only the only thing i would say about that is that um it would be a very difficult thing for anyone to to prove first that the transmission of the virus occurred on school grounds and secondarily that the district was negligent in that transmission so just by virtue of the difficulty there are some in intrinsic protections there we are still following as a risk retention trust board what's happening at the federal government seeing if they are going to at least legislatively indicate that schools throughout the nation are exempt from being sued over the transmission of covid and it's also it's also on the radar for the arizona state legislature as well okay thank you so why does an existing liability coverage protect gps well that was one of the things i mentioned about this yeah is that yes yeah i'm sorry you you may be going to cover this later um as far as what our requirements are concerned but what about things like masks and things are we is that part of this and i think the assessment i would say yes to that the assessment um the the requirement that we have a reopening plan will be very key in the coverage provided by the risk retention trust and as part of our reopening plan we have included the requirement to wear masks again it very well could be miss your jetty just regarding the efforts that the school district has made to protect staff and students from the transmission yes that would be very related to that thank you you bet um and then finally the biggest concern of the risk retention trust was the reinsurers that there would be no protection for them in the event of multiple coveted related claims and so they they felt that it was important that we have a cap on the amount of insurance or the amount of coverage that would be available and then finally why is a waiver or acknowledgement form required so again many many discussions occurred regarding this particular requirement is it really worth it to have to have people sign it does it make a difference generally speaking juries in arizona may consider 19 claim um the fact that that there there could be respective faults associated with the school district and or the claimant and so it i think across all the discussions that that i have personally had with all my peers as well as the fellow trust board members it seems prudent that we should that we should engage in this insurance endorsement and purchase it for the following fiscal school year the final following school year that's all i have board members any additional questions commentary miss wood so can we use the ester funds probably for this we actually can actually i think it's the enrollments um the enrollment stabilization grant this is an eligible expense for the enrollment stabilization grant okay thanks i guess one last thing how are we planning to offer this the uh waiver of the acknowledgement form to families as we prepare to go back to school we'll be sending that out when we get prepared for september 8th and bringing everybody back if that's uh well that's what we're planning on as of today unless the metrics say something different but we'll be sending that out with them with information so they can acknowledge that and we will be looking and i don't think we're going to put it online in terms of on any kind of enrollment but making sure that they have the link and we'll continue to remind them and what that'll do is is that'll dump into a spreadsheet so we know exactly who has signed a form in case something has come up in terms of any kind of litigation related to that we'll know exactly who has signed off on that we did verify with the risk retention trust that electronic signatures or some some sort of electronic means verifying completion of the form would be acceptable so we've opted to as dr mccord indicated opted to try to do it electronically versus in paper form seems like that would be something that we would want to have as much as we can as far as first of all just i think the acknowledgment in general that that there is kovid we're still in the middle of covid that coming to school in person there are inherent risks at some level so i don't think that would be a bad thing for all of our parents to see and have the opportunity to sign so i i would hope that we find it a way that you know to make that happen we did we did include it when when mr ryan was creating the registration process for the in-person online supports he did add that to his his email encouraging all of the parents to please register their children and we did receive over 500 employees our i mean 500 parents already that did complete the form and so will that be in effect through when when they are back at school as well it will be okay thank you anything else it is possible that a parent would be signing more than one of these uh let's say student returning to the school setting and involved in athletics um we probably we we need to have one acknowledgement per student but a student that's engaged in athletics would not have to have it signed again it would be it would be covering all of their access to the school building okay anything else thank you miss betts move to item 7.02 and that is a discussion and possible action regarding suspension of board policy do we need to vote on this or we just have a presentation on the on the excuse me yes yes we do thank you miss humphreys we have 7.01 i was ahead of myself uh is there a motion i move that we approve the use of the uh risk retention form for cobit the cove 19 endorsement thank you mr carr second pay the i was going to say and add pay the um sorry and approve and approve the expenditure yes thank you the premium thank you so if i can correct that motion i move that we approve the uh the payment of the the premium and the use of the risk retention forms a second second thank you ms humphries any further discussion i apologize for getting ahead of myself board members all those in favor of approving item 7.01 please signify by saying aye aye all those opposed the same motion carries 5-0 now we'll move to item 7.02 and dr mcgorr thank you dr santa cruz governing board members 7.02 are asking for discussion possible action regarding the suspension of governing board policy bgb policy adoption related to a first and second reading of new board policy aca and aca-r which is regulation sexual harassment and policy a-c-a-a and dash a-c-a-a-r regulation title nine sexual harassment the reason why we're asking for this is because this is extremely time sensitive uh information that we need to have on our policy books as soon as possible this is information that came down and was recently put into uh policy form by asba of course with udall shumway also weighing in on that as well i believe dr meyer and mr mcintosh have had conversations with you related to this uh in terms of the intricacies of the policy thank you dr mccord uh you have heard the rationale 7.02 is there a motion before we open for discussion uh i move that we suspend policy bgb policy adoption we related to the first and second reading of new board policy aca acr and uh sexual harassment and policy a-c-a-a-a-c-a-a-r title 9 sexual harassment thank you thank you miss eugetti it's been moved and seconded any commentary i think all of us received individual information from dr meyers and mr mcintosh dr santa cruz just one clarification yes i don't believe that we typically uh approve as a board the regulations we prove only the policies that govern those regulations correct okay i'm in my motion remove the regulations so are you amending that then yes yes i just amend my motion to remove the regulations just the policy aca and policy acaa thank you mr carr miss eugetti do you accept that i'll am in my second thank you any other discussion seeing none item 7.02 is before you all those in favor please signify by saying aye hi those opposed the same motion carries miss eugetti was that uh an eye it was thank you i didn't hear it motion carries 5-0 item 7.03 discussion possible action to revise policy aca aca-r regulation sexual harassment dr mccord thank you dr santa cruz governing board members we have policy aca before you and i'm sure it'll get amended regarding the regulation when there is a discussion we also have mr mcintosh and dr meyer here to answer any questions related to 7.03 and 7.04 thank you dr mccord item 7.03 is their emotion i move that we adopt policy aca um sexual harassment thank you is there a second i'll second thank you mr carr and your discussion no discussion mr carter just really related i think we i think dr mccord explained i think this is only the second time that i recall that i've been on the board that we've suspended a first and second read we don't like to do that we owe it to our public that they're aware of policy changes uh and as was stated the the reason for supporting that and this policy change is to comply with a deadline uh required by by the eos eoc if i remember correctly but by federal federal regulators so uh apologize to our public but this was not brought to us in time to address it with under the normal process thank you mr carr and acknowledging that this particular policy um dr meyer and mr mcintosh is time sensitive and so we had to move quickly and thus as mr carr uh noticed we are abridging the typical process so that we can get the policy into the books anything else seeing no further discussion then you have item 7.03 in front of you all those in favor of that motion please signify by saying aye aye those opposed the same motion carries five zero items 7.04 discussion of possible action to revise policy acaa dr mccourt same as the last item again time sensitive and dr meyer mr mcintosh are here to answer any questions those two are associated and and closely related so is there a motion i move that we revise policy a c a a title ix sexual harassment thank you is there a second all second second miss your jetty mr carr thank you discussion again we have had the opportunity to review with staff so we will go ahead no other discussion item 7.04 is in front of us let's take a vote all those in favor signify by saying aye aye those opposed the same motion carries five zero item eight eight point zero one is request for future items on the agenda if that isn't something you would like at this point please make contact with dr mccord or ms wilson and let your thoughts be known there we'll move to item nine board committees and reports 9.01 gilbert education foundation miss humphreys um i don't really have anything to report this evening i did want to use my point of personal privilege just to thank all of our teachers for all their hard work and our students because it's it's a both students families and teachers working hard and i know it's a really difficult circumstance and we hope things will get better i think that arizona is doing the right things to bring down the spread of the virus and today's report was pretty positive so let's just keep working on that thank you mrs humphries item 9.02 city of mesa liaison ms wood i spoke with mr thompson today and just told him about the plan moving forward to reopen with good afternoon chris cooper here i wanted to give you a quick superintendent update from clearwater schools i've been meaning to get this out for a couple days and have some things like to share so first of all it's exciting teachers are back and working hard many have been working a lot over the summer but on last thursday we had our new teachers come back we have some amazing new staff and then on monday all teachers reported and it was exciting to get to go around and see everybody hard at work preparing for whatever the school year might bring for us we are still on schedule to start school september 1st next tuesday you will if you haven't already you will be receiving quite a bit of information from your school and obviously we're still under the mask order so nothing's really changed as far as that goes we will be requiring masks for all people in our school buildings we will have health screenings including temperature scanning upon entry of the building and one thing we'd ask just to make sure even even at the first school it's hard to not be there but if your children are sick that that they would stay at home because that always creates some problems but this year it will cause a lot of issues if we have symptomatic students even if it's not covered if those students come to school you'll also be receiving some information from our school nurses sometime soon the other communication is parents you should receive this week if you haven't already is uh teachers reaching out to you to schedule a parent teacher conference talked about this a little bit uh in an earlier update but we are having parent-teacher conferences before school which is a little different but we want to share some things with you and then learn about your children and be prepared to give them the best education we can so we'll be reaching out um hoping to conduct phone or via video conversations with each family before we start school another update there's been a lot of media attention about activities and what's going on with that the kansas high school activity association is also meeting i believe on friday to make some decisions about possibly an alternate fall schedule that will be in the spring and our athletic directors are keeping well informed about that and up to date on those things as of now our activities our fall sports and other extracurricular activities are on we've had students participating in those one thing i did want to let you know as everybody in the area including our league will be limiting attendance from spectators at some of those events and we are working on a system so we can let people know how that will work and working out those details some some in our league are limiting spectators to two per participant in the event that night we're hoping to uh be able to have the space to social distance and and have more spectators than that we will be requiring again masks and distancing is possible in temperature techs for spectators at our activities as well i'm excited to get to see the students it's been great to have an opportunity to meet with staff and visit with them this week i want to close with saying i'm wearing a pen you probably can't see it but it says kansan's can and that was the logo from the state department of education a couple of years ago and i wear that pen to remind myself that we can do this and i know in clearwater we can do this so i hope everybody is ready and excited for school to start if your students remote we will be reaching out to you and talking about a remote open house and uh it will be virtual obviously but getting all all of our processes in place thanks for listening uh if you have any questions again feel free to reach out to me your schools are all we have staff in all the schools and um i know the principals are getting lots of questions but are also putting out communication to parents so give us a call if you have any questions or if you hear something that doesn't sound quite right we'd love to hear from you and be able to clarify anything that we can at that time that's all i have for today stay safe you

board some updates before we look at the consent agenda uh just a reminder to our community that we are currently taking registration new registrations for this coming school year so if there is a parent or a community member that knows of a parent who has to register their children please contact my office uh we could do the registration right now virtually we have been doing that for the last couple of weeks but with school beginning on september 9th we would like to get as many registrations in as possible so please contact my office you will see tonight in the agenda i am making a recommendation to cancel middle school sports uh and the reason for that that's based on our athletic director dave porfito's recommendation in our conversation we have about eight or nine other districts middle schools that we usually compete with and all of those districts have decided to forego middle school sports for this year so we are not going to run an official middle school sports program what we will try to do for the students in our middle school once school begins is see if we can organize some type of intramural program for the students but until students come back until we get settled with the academic and the instructional part of the program uh then we'll look into providing some type of activities for our students so that's in the agenda tonight uh you may or may not have read in the paper that high school volleyball hasn't been suspended just rescheduled so that will begin in season three this year the athletic association is including another season i believe it begins february 16th and it runs through march i'm sorry april 16th so we're going to suspend volleyball at this point right now for high school but we'll pick it up again february 16th as far as any other sports all of our other fall high school sports uh will run as per the guidelines from the state uh they will begin practicing again on september 14th and official games will begin on or about september 28th and october 1st depending upon the date i think tennis begins first and then football begins october 1st and as or if there are any additional updates or guidelines from the states on athletics i will keep the board and the public apprised and our staff and students uh we also have a resolution tonight that we're proving that you know that students have the opportunity to go all remote if they choose to do so the resolution that we have tonight is to prove that students who are or remote can participate in afternoon sports or co-curricular activities and that'll be a resolution that we're approving tonight we spoke a little bit about it last week again that's a recommendation from the governor's office that it be board approved opening of school information uh students are returning september 9th we have a um a revision in our school calendar uh there's also another revision in our school calendar tonight where all of our parents i'm sorry parent visitation evenings that were to take place in september live are now going to take place in october virtual so parents will be notified of the parent visitation evenings how it's going to be organized and i'm sure the school principals once we get back into the school year sometime in september will be notifying both parents and students posting information to the website but the calendar that will be going out tomorrow and that will be posted will indicate those changes uh parents have been contacting me and i'm sure school principals regarding information about the two programs that we're offering both the hybrid and the all remote program uh letters are going out this week or should have gone out this week from our schools to students who are in the hybrid program and the all remote program with uh additional information regarding how the all remote program is going to work uh what group a student might be in group a or will be so if parents haven't received that information as of yet it should be going out this week if you don't hear anything by friday then i suggest on monday you call your school's principal for the high school and for primarily the high school mr pinto informed me today that the majority of the information will be posted to the website and students have been notified by their email to refer to the website as to what group they're in what schedule they have and i know mr wagner in the middle school might be sending letters but they will also be informal information posted to the website uh also posted to our website is our uh reopening plan which has been posted since july 31st parents have called me in principles um regarding questions or asking for clarification and um if parents have questions they can continue to do so either call my office or email me grab and go lunch you know that we were fortunate uh this summer to provide our students with a grab-and-go lunch that program will end this friday august 28th excuse me and then it will start up again for the new school year beginning september 9th so there will be information going out to parents whose children are all remote as to how they would go about picking up a grab-and-go lunch and students who are taking part in our hybrid program will um learn about the grab and go process once they come to school and i'm sure the principals will be sending letters out to parents indicating the process okay i'll stop there for a minute do does anyone any other board members have questions at this point about anything i spoke about just the only concern with the middle school uh sports uh and i know it is what it is but if we can really implement an intramural program to keep these kids somewhat active and safe uh i think i'm speaking on my behalf but i think the rest of the board will be an approval of that so okay athletic director can work with the middle school just uh you know administration that'd be a positive for the students yeah i did when i was speaking to mr porfido uh we did say that we would speak to mr wagner and we will make every effort to do so appreciate it thank you okay uh before i look at the consent agenda do we have any committee reports no just wait go ahead carl well the only thing is that uh that uh as you know we're changing the east wall at the high school it's a major project in cooperation with the borough and the board of ed uh there's been some issues with the two bids but i think they've hammered it out lou and probably a start date with sometime in october but we are going to be able to get our only home game in after we lose sent some emails out so that's a positive uh boilers are wrapping up in uh number five and number three uh they're doing some liners uh i we did mention that we're going to put a water softener in the system to protect the boiler uh and a little uh odds and ends that uh some nurses uh stations that are being configured but everything else is moving along uh well that's pretty much it right thank you speaking of buildings and grounds i do want to commend our custodial staff and our principals for um readying our buildings for september there was many many guidelines from the state in terms of putting in place things that have to do with safety sanitizing and and i do say that our custodians have been working very very hard all summer and our buildings really look very very good and they're in great shape and i've i've been to all of the buildings i haven't been to school five yet i plan on doing that tomorrow but i think we're ready to go and again i want to give a shout out to our custodial staff and our principals for doing a great job um during this summer as far as you know i want to echo that but i also want to thank yourself and uh little panel for assisting a lot of stuff also thank you thank you thank you mr doctor so if we can look at the consent agenda uh just a couple items i want to uh refer to on page two third resolution down we are appointing mike scotsafava as a high school special education teacher at ba step two for this school year benefits included domenica russo who is subbing uh with us as a high school italian teacher dominica is has her um her we're just waiting for her certificate to come back from the state all of her paperwork is in but initially we are approving her as a substitute probably the next agenda which will be september will be approving her as a uh full-time high school italian teacher uh michelina catmeyer is going to fill in as a substitute leave replacement at school number three for a title one position uh simon braco who was with us many years as a special education teacher uh will be returning uh per diem as a high school special education teacher beginning september 1st new heart tibet who has been with us a number of years as a custodian i believe in the high school number five will be uh retirement retiring effective october 31st so i wish him the best uh top of page or i'm sorry on page three we are recommending to appoint leslie larose as a middle school english teacher uh m.a step 11 i'm sorry leslie is coming to us from another district so she will begin on or about october 23rd uh if the other district that she's coming from uh is able to release her sooner then she'll start with us sooner but right now the tentative date is october 23rd and between september 1st and october 23rd we will have a certified substitute in class liz leighton is taking a family and medical leave under the new federal expansion act uh from september 1st through september 17th and then she's going on i'm sorry uh september 1st through september 17th as paid leave september 17th to the october 16th at a per diem rate of 200 per day as per the new federal guidelines and then an unpaid leave okay to continue um we are adjusting the salary of our new speech pathologist uh natalie nunez as per the new contract that was agreed upon a couple of months ago we are approving at the bottom of page three uh teachers who serve co-curricular positions which are morning duty and on to the next page uh inrs coordinators we do have a number of other staff members who serve in co-curricular positions some are going to serve this year in person some are going to serve virtually but those appointments will be made in september but for now we're appointing morning duty and inrs coordinators uh the next resolution is what i spoke about we are rescinding um the contracts for the middle school coaches for the 2020 21 school year on page five and page i'm sorry page five are proving the salary adjustments for staff members who have moved across the guide from a ba to m a b a 15 m a so on and so forth and that's something as per contract we do each september or end of august uh we are also appointing a number of substitutes on page six and seven as we do each year uh which is a formality and we are also approving lunch aids um as per the salary mandated by the minimum salary state of new jersey pages eight nine and ten we are appointing teachers uh site supervisors and a project director for our after school program uh this is our second year of a five-year grant and uh i know with the situation the way it is uh with students um some being all remote some being hybrid uh right now we still have about 100 students in our after-school program if there are any parents right now that are new to the district that would like to inquire about registering for our after-school program they're welcome to do so they can contact me by email we're also approving uh title one documents that we do each year those are mandated by the state for the 2021 school year actually those contracts are the same contracts each year just updated with the new dates policies and procedures and regulations this is our second reading so we are approving those tonight type of page 12 each year we do an assessment of our anti-bullying policy uh we get the results of that assessment usually in december right now all we're doing is approving the submittal of that survey so i completed the survey last week and i'll submit it tomorrow after we approve the resolution to submit it the actual data from that survey and uh will be usually released by the department of ed sometime around december and the resolution uh that follows is the other the other resolution i spoke about regarding students who are all remote uh if they would if they opted for the all remote program they could participate in any co-curricular ortho or athletic program offered by the school district and then finally a resolution to once again update the school calendar and that's primarily for the parent visitation evs which will be sent posted to the website tomorrow uh we have a biosecurity management plan that we update each year mr alfano handles that and anything on finance um just a couple quick items mr roman gino we are engaging our orders for a 2019-20 audit right now it's all virtual and electronic uh they have not made a determination if they are going to be coming on site or not they usually come on site the third week of september through the middle of october again they haven't made a determination on that i know mr papano and mr raincourt mentioned the facilities projects we completed approximately 41 facilities projects uh of a total of about 46.

years to survive the overwhelming loss and the mental anguish while i still had to continue to raise my daughters and to teach i know how it feels to have your heart ripped up and have to live every day without you by your side now with the reopening of our school happening just around this corner this will become a very real possibility for everyone here in my continental family to also experience it might be the loss of a spouse a co-worker a friend or a child our hearts will break and losing one of our continental continental family is way too many i know how valuable teaching in person is to every child every day out of the classroom delays the education of our students as school board members you are weighing the potential consequence of lost teaching days against the potential loss of cost lives i am asking you to delay i'm begging you delay our in-person teaching until after our fall break our numbers will be much better instead of the heartbreak of losing one or more of our own our classrooms will be filled again with joy laughter and learning thank you for allowing me to speak thank you next up we have our third grade team come on up well i had a letter that i was going to we were going to i have it yeah thank you we thought you were remembered well you're not shy okay dear governing board the third grade team would like to express our desire to start school tuesday september 8th or as soon as possible while we feel we are we have managed this transition to online school very well we don't feel that our kids needs are getting met academic needs and emotional needs we feel that we are prepared and have been training or sorry we feel that we are prepared and have the training we need to keep our staff and students safe all three of us have children that attend continental we see firsthand the emotional strain this has had on our children our kids need academic structure and socialization which is not taking place while in line thank you for your time and consideration ashley montoya sharon flowers and alex house thank you thank you joe ferguson you're up hi my name my name is joe ferguson i've been working here i believe this is my eighth school year i've been teaching for just over ten years um i i've been fairly fairly involved in the development of our mitigation plan and our continuity of operations plan and i i wanted to express some concerns about returning to school on the 8th or making the using the data that we currently have available to us now as as i'm sure you all are aware and those of you who have been following following the data you're aware that it's very easy to cherry pick data look at it within context to to suit your own political motives so i'm not going to cite cite any data here but but i do want to express to you the importance of using data in a way that is compliant with the county because regardless of whether or not the data that you're using uh supports the decision to open in in a morally appropriate manner in a way in a way that is is in the best interest of our students and our students safety none of that matters if we open in a way that's not compliant with the county and as it stands right now the county has nine benchmarks and again it's i i want to express to you it's important to use the data that we have available to us right now now it's um though the benchmarks that we've met that were in the green according to the county are coveted like illness that would put us in in phase three of our reopening plan for code like illness the benchmarks that were in the yellow are lab testing availability and utilization adequate hospital hospital bed capacity to care uh for two times the current coverage cases plus surge statewide as some of you are aware the way the way surge works is that when other county counties hospital systems are overwhelmed they ship them to counties with uh with stronger infrastructure and pima county is one of those counties so we're we're bringing a lot of patients in from santa cruz and some other smaller counties uh sufficient personal protective equipment ppe for emergency responders that we're we're in the yellow there now keep in mind yellow means it's it's uh we're okay to open in phase two the facility support for patients who who can't be discharged home statewide that's the fourth yellow category the red categories this means don't go back continue to operate phase one cases over two consecutive weeks with complete reporting of cases percent positivity timely case investigation testing of symptomatic contacts within 48 hours now this is important especially i want to draw your attention to cases over two consecutive weeks with with complete reporting of cases so the numbers that have been released recently indicate that our cases are declining and have declined for more than two weeks that data is not reliable until um until that data has been completely reported and as uh as of now it's still taking a couple weeks for uh local organizations and healthcare facilities to um to get their data reported to the state so that means that we won't know what this what the situation is right now until two weeks from now okay so using those benchmarks making a decision right now will put us in a position where we are not in compliance with county guidelines um that's important because the county is that the county is uh is the level of government that issues our um issues our permit to operate right if we open out of compliance with the county they can send a health inspector uh in in to inspect our operation and one bureaucrat can shut us down that's all it takes now i'm not saying that we won't be we won't be able to open on the 8th what i am saying is that if we make the decision right now we will be out of compliance with the county um i also just wanted to and some of you are i'm sure you guys are already aware of this or you all are already aware of this but three schools in tucson have closed two of them were closed today i i want to be back in school i want to be back in school on the 8th i think the data will support the decision of reopening by d8 i believe the data supports the decision to do it now i think it's i think it's relatively safe however if we make that choice to open right now we may be we will be out of compliance with county thank you ladies and gentlemen my name is mr i teach music here at continental along with mr ferguson now just a couple of quick small comments i have concerns about reopening in a very simple form and that is masks we all we all use them now it's kind of becoming normal however being on the task force plan looking at our continuing of operations plan and looking at guidance from the trust and just what we've been talking about task force meetings our classrooms allow 17 students to fit six feet apart and that's with one kid by a door and another kid with a paper towel dispenser at their head a little uncomfortable our current numbers based on from what administration has said is that we will have more than 17 kids in each class which means for seven hours a day students will be in mask as i'm sure many would agree this would not be fun for seven hours i took it off just to speak when i'm looking at a student's face and they're answering my question from 12 feet away it's gonna be really hard when i know what their answer is i can't see their expression is it going to be okay it may be okay but i know that that's going to present a very large challenge and being an effective teacher of having faces covered if we could figure out a way to get less than 17 in a class so they're more than six feet apart i wouldn't be as worried as someone echoed i think our kids need to be here but i also think that their safety our staff safety is more important i think that that is our number one priority as educators i know we talk about every time we talk about emergency training that's what i tell my kids when we practice our lockdown my job first is to keep you safe so that's what we do that's all i got thank you europe governing board thank you for taking the time to not only hear myself but all of my colleagues and the members of the community um mr ferguson i've been working very close together so he stole everything that i was planning on saying so i'm just going to kind of reiterate i want to go back to school and get our kids back here as the disciplinary and looking over the mental and the physical well-being of the students which is my primary job it concerns me greatly that a lot of the kids that look at school as a safe place to be do not have that outlet i know we're talking about it not being a safe place but we're talking about child abuse we're talking about neglect we're talking about starvation that happens being an administrator that's a big part of my job and i deal weekly on a weekly basis with kids who come with those concerns of safety at home and in the community and as a school we're more than just educators to these kiddos many of them we are a safe place to be and so one of my big concerns is some of those kids that rely on this um on this place and these people don't have that right now and so my heart goes out to them as we're not able to reach out and have that connection and watch over their safety and well-being having said that i also have some concerns that when we reopen it needs to be the right time right now the county is not supporting reopening because of the numbers my concern with that although we do not receive monetary funding from them they do provide the permit to operate and they also provide our food service operation permit and at any time for any reason they feel that we are providing an unsafe environment to the public they can shut us down and as we've already seen with many districts that have tried over the past couple of weeks to even start small a place to go learning have been shut down by the county because they're calling two people in an entire school an outbreak to me that doesn't consist of an outbreak but it is the county and they're doing that my fear is as a district if we open we're just going to be another statistic and we're going to be another headline and i feel that as a parent and also as an administrator at the school that that's not where we want to be as a district and so we have to be very mindful of we need the support of state ade as well as pima county before we move forward because otherwise we're going to be that headline in tomorrow's news and it continued we pride ourselves on being the positive headlines in the community having all these different clubs having all these other our music departments going and playing those are the headlines that we cherish and look forward to in those positive interactions and we really want to try to avoid being on the negative spectrum there's a couple things that we still need to figure out as well as far as moving forward and right now the unknown is are our teachers and our students going to be held to a 14-day quarantine if they're in contact once again if we're held to that standard there's no point in opening because it's not a matter of if it's a matter of when in this situation that someone with kobe will come onto our campus and if one teacher is exposed that means an entire classroom is exposed and then their siblings potentially exposed and once again we're shut down so as long as that is the standard 14-day quarantine we cannot operate and so we need to work with our our community leaders making a realistic um a realistic goal for us to be able to operate which my recommendation would be something along the lines like if you have signs and symptoms you stay at home and don't come until you're clear for 24 hours like has been our current policy for the all the years that i've worked here and i don't see how we can function as a district operating under any other guidelines once again i thank you for for your time and consideration i don't envy any of you to make this decision because it is a tough decision because this is you know as mrs roman and i said we're dealing with lives here and so it's it's a very important thing to to consider and as you can tell i'm on the fence myself so thank you for your time man thanks steve thanks sir okay tom is it america america i'm tom merrick i've had the privilege of having this to be my third year to be a school bus driver here i love it it's just really neat experience and i'm going to piggyback a little bit of what mr immersion said the the first thing i tell my kids in the fall when they get on my job is not necessary to make you have a fun ride to school it's not necessarily to get you there on time my number one priority is your safety and do i have of course we have rules don't stand up don't change these and things like that keep your hands inside that's our part of the safety but the whole coven situation is another part and i'm not speaking officially on behalf of the other point nine drivers we have eight or nine drivers we have but i'm just speaking for myself that i think um i don't envy you as mr olathe just said i do not envy you at all you have to make a decision that i would not want to be put into and whatever that decision is and trust it would be the right one and um we just look to you for the guidance and thank you for everybody who's concerned about it and that's basically what i want to say is i i wish you the best in your decision and i'll be happy to go back to work um i would like to get that paycheck again but uh but it has to be the right time and right decision so thank you thank you okay i have one to read this is from julie cerulli i've lived in the greater green valley area for 22 years and as a parent and business owner i am proud that all three of my children have gone to condo from kindergarten through eighth grade two now attending university and studying business administration and engineering the third a senior at walton road i strongly feel that their success can be attributed to the education they received to continental and prepared them for to be leaders and excel at home moreover over the last five years i've witnessed a high proportion of continental kids take leadership roles in academics music clubs and greatly excel in sports i also frequently heard high school teachers praise the goodness and decency of the kids that have come from continental but should be a source of pride for all continental true middle school truly is a unique place i am concerned that for the first time in two decades the board was split in passing the overhead i also know from working on previous overrides that coil creek has not always been an area of strong support for the continental school overview could the board specifically the two members on the board representing quail creek comment on how they are proactively influencing the voters of quebec to support the continent override in the upcoming election thank you all right thank you thank you anybody on the line are there any more people on the line who wish to speak to call in okay uh many thanks to each and every one of you for showing up tonight we appreciate you being here okay of the minutes please minutes for august 10 how much we approved august 10th in minutes please yes thank you minutes for august 12 special yes thank you okay thank you also everyone for being here members of the board thank you i wanted to just share some highlights for starters and we had our back to school parade thursday august 20th and there's a few snapshots so our teachers continue to show cult pride and we are so very proud of our families our teachers and you can see we had a long caravan so again thank you everyone who participated in our cult i just don't know where the fire truck was i know we did get in this time and i also wanted to take this time to showcase some of our digital learning that has been going on with second and third grade um all our teachers are doing a phenomenal job but i'm excited that second and third grade um we will need to come and just do a little demonstration on what our students are seeing on the other end so let's start with second grade hi hello my name is mrs fernandez and i am the second grade dle teacher so um all of second grade has very similar uh virtual classroom and since our kids are new to having their own chromebook and they're more used to tablets we thought that this would be a kid-friendly way to introduce our classroom so basically what you have to do is you have a bookshelf with different baskets and if you click on each basket you will find that classroom for example if i click math it will take me to the math classroom and we have a live session every day that's why there's the link and each basket has a recording of the whatever day we did you go back with the home button and you can go to reading and reading has an uh read-aloud and assignment for each day and they can also direct you to a virtual library that has hundreds of books to pick from okay okay again i go back with the home button and if you click on writing every room has a schedule like monday tuesday to make it easy for parents and for students so if i click on wednesday it will direct me to the wednesday writing it has instructions there and i go back with the home button that's here this time oh come on hold on this is my brain break it right here i'll fix it free okay okay so they have can i go to my homeroom is still going like that this is not supposed to happen but okay so okay this is my home room you also have i excel uh brain break and there's a moving brain break and one to relax in case the kids need it counseling corner has mrs godfrey's um weekly video and um grammar has our interactive notebook and presentation for the week and um it's been going well the the kids are getting a hang of it um even though it was a rough start start i think they really benefit from um from the live meeting that we have daily but i agree with third grade and i think that they need the interaction with the teacher and with their peers and i mean if we see them at walmart or any other store um i think we should give it a try what platform are you using this is a google slice it is yes and it is linked to my google classroom and it is linked to youtube and it's linked to [Music] that is very well put together you guys did a lot of work thank you i can only know what i've seen there and i've seen the sixth grade which is nowhere closer there's not any continuity like that that that is fantastic thank you very much and while they're transitioning just so you know we were able to purchase these new view boards for all the teachers so they all have them so ours is pretty similar to second grades um we have our stream here but we have in class work it's all kind of organized by you know first check in make sure you get your attendance done and then we have virtual classrooms so all student needs to do is click on our pdf here and it takes them to something similar to second grade so we've been pre-recording our lessons and we'll just basically link our video to the whiteboard so in regular classroom we're at the whiteboard teaching so all our lessons are at the whiteboard we have daily oral language practice and so we have that in our read sign so if we were to go to read it would take you to the video and we'd work together with them so they're working with us and they can pause the video when they need to write their answers or take the time to fill it in and then um when they're ready they press play and we did a whole tutorial the first week of school on how to navigate the whole classroom so they could learn it and practice it before we actually put assignments on there that way when it came time to actually do work they knew exactly where to go and how to do it and what to do um and then we have uh it's like a to-do list i guess so the work to do so parents and the students can see in here click the read sign to get our deal well done do a read aloud and then watch the video do the lesson watch the other video do that lesson and then we also have links attached for i excel for flipgrid we use flipgrid so if we ask open-ended questions they can still share with us even though we're not going to be live for that question maybe or we'll talk to them during the live session about it but it gives them a chance anytime during the day or the week to answer that question or to draw a picture and show it on there and explain the picture to us so how reporting so they'll be able to record themselves and then what's cool about flipgrid is only their class gets to see that video it's not exposed to the whole world like youtube would be here so only we can see it their peers and the teacher so i can't see miss flowers flipgrid responses she can't see my classes responses so it kind of makes it seem like we still are in our classroom because they can respond to each other too um so it's pretty cool so we have all of this and then when we're done we showed them how to [Music] i don't know how to do it on the screen but to go back to google classroom and then i'll let albert go back it's easier on the computer this is going to be a real thing to get back to class yeah and so after they're done going through the video lessons in our little classroom then we have showed them how to go down to the actual assignments and so we have the week of so you can see we have the last few weeks of all the work and instead of having the assignment show like this every single day gets posted it posts the day of so they know okay this wasn't here yesterday i know i'm supposed to click on tuesday if today's tuesday um can they get ahead no okay so we thought about doing that but with the math lessons we wanted to make sure that they're understanding the standard we're on before they can just skip ahead and then we're also having google meets tuesday through friday and so if we gave all the lessons and we would have that google me then they might be everyone would be in a different assignment so this way it's controlled the date on tuesday we talk about the lesson from monday or tuesday morning then wednesday we're talking about tuesday and so on so it helps us all sound i just think the only last part is if you just scroll down to the bottom we have a part what we have two parts one is the welcome to third grade and it's just some things that are special about you know maybe some pictures or we have um what do we have on there a video we have our virtual handbook so parents if they need to have any questions they know they can go there and find out how we do grading um and we also have what else do we have there oh the third grade supply list of things that they're going to need and then technology resources on the bottom we have um just the rules for the zoom or actually just google needs to have the rules and then we have our google meet schedule so each of us have a schedule we have it posted there and then the last part which is kind of cool is each student has so that each of our classes are each student has um a part on their with their name for user names and passwords and so we get emails constantly like what's my daughter's ixl username and password and so this way there are no questions it's there we even have the links posted for ixl the think central um link is there and then we've noticed that a lot of kids have expressed they don't feel like they're typing typers so we have a link there so they can do typing club to help them out but this way try to it's kind of like this is the middle man like if they need any questions for anything go look in the google classroom and we're not trying to be rude but it's in the google classroom and trying to train kids as they need to get anything it's all in one place and i would like to point out too that everything that we're doing here we send information to the parents so they've received emails they have instructions on how to first get there as well so everybody is in the loop and understanding what we're doing weekly great so i have two questions but one is that bottom part where everything is because we all got the emails but and i try to file them in a folder and all that but you know it's mediocre effects so that is a super good idea and the other is and i what's the parent what's your feedback so far i'm great we communicate we email our families every friday and we kind of just give them updates on you know talk to your child about google classroom and we encourage them to log on and look at some of the videos as well so they know what their child has been completing and what they've been watching um i don't we haven't had any negative feedback yet i think we're very organized um it's all at one place i think the only thing that we kind of think is tough is it's a lot like a lot of assignments we decided to not do one for each subject like some of the other classes or grade levels are doing we kind of thought at this age um maybe up to five or six classes was just too much for before a third grader to handle to go to one google classroom for math and one for language arts so we have it all in one but when you have it all in one you saw how ashley was going down i mean we have they're all by weeks and so if it's it's it's a lot it's a lot that you have to scroll down but that's why posting it once um by the day if kids are really on it and for the most part i'd say about 80 percent of our students are completing that assignment that day the other 20 are maybe a little bit lagging or they're waiting for their mom or a family member to get home to get logged on or to get some work done and then of course you just have some that just don't like just like to wait to the last minute to the end of the week until sunday 10 pm to finish all assignments okay and um we asked during our google meets which are tuesday through friday we also each picked uh separate times ashley's in the morning alex is right after lunch and i'm at two o'clock that way if ashley has a student that could log on at the nine o'clock meeting um they can go to we can invite them to go to alex's even though that child's not in alex's class we are still teaching all the same content the videos we're sharing between each other so that kid can not feel left out and get caught up with her or ask a question all our classrooms all our video lessons they're all the same so whether they miss mine and maybe they had questions about math or ela they can hop onto one of theirs and they know exactly what the student's talking about and they can go back and review it too we haven't had that issue yet but we have that option for anyone that you know like i have one kid that hasn't done one google me just yet so i'll reach out this week and just say is that time not working and if they say that time isn't working then maybe i can give that option to um that student to go to one of the other ones if that teacher ashley or alex will do the exact same thing in their google me as well and you guys are doing this from here at the school we come to school and yeah we do it's easier for us you know we have all the books and everything here so it's easier for us to stay focused as well because you're holding up distractions you know and here we just work well together and just we do like one day where we we record all of our daily oral language and read alouds because we have a read aloud we read to the kids um every day and that's one thing that's different we each read our own selection of books so i'll read what i'll pick a book for myself and then um wednesday it's kind of like planning and we plan what our lessons are going to be for the following week and then we start recording and then thursday we also do more recording and then we make our virtual classrooms so we're doing shareable links taking each of the pictures and it's a different classroom like mondays is science in ela and it has all the links to that and then if you go to tuesday we have a totally different classroom but all the clickable links are the same so we'll still have videos on the whiteboard we still have our to-do list there's still a dol link on the read sign the links are on excel it's all the same in every class it's just the background pages and it's a different subject and different subjects we do ela mondays and wednesdays we do math tuesday thursday science monday and friday wow you guys should be very proud of yourselves well we have to ashley is the one that well yeah she helped with that we collaborated on the amish stuff but she was the big emoji like queen so she was a good expert yes you know the younger ones they dig [Music] the first day we were like okay shareable links what is this and then we're like taking screenshots of pictures and you'll see when ashley showed you some of the classrooms like we have faces and i mean like literally our face is like like in the middle because they just the video doesn't capture that you know the pretty smile at the beginning so we have these funny faces on there and i think now we we style at the beginning yeah so we can capture that part yeah so i think now we're good yeah and i just want to add i want to thank you in terms of time and true team planning that's truly what it takes to work as a team to work smarter not harder to collaborate um two so um alex is our new teacher in the middle you can see alex she did her student teaching here with mrs flowers so that relationship piece didn't have to be fostered and developed because you already have that which is huge um and also uh ashley and alex both attended this summer um admin yeah training that was offered for free well it wasn't free but it usually cost a lot more but due to cove we were able to get our teachers to attend um at a discounted rate so it was a full week of learning various organizational skills technologies so really putting what you learn into practice is evidence so our kids are very very lucky so thank you very much thank you very much appreciate it good job guys you don't need the laptop anymore so i thought you'd appreciate seeing some of the highlights and things that are going on again um i'll try to get our teachers in a few at a time to kind of highlight some of the things that they're doing because there's something that's going on in all the classrooms as well i think it would be good to continue that maybe two classes two grades at a time rotating through just i use fascinating yes and what they've done just to showcase because it is truly teaching and learning and i think it's critical for you to be able to see what our teachers are doing and how our students are participating so thank you ladies again we appreciate it so i just wanted to give you another little enrollment update of where we were again we are down 66 students from the end of last year to now there's 20 possible students who have withdrawn to be home taught or to attend virtual schools that would we would be able to entice into our ali home later later on down the road so being that we're in this time and people have been really nervous about school a lot most of our students who have withdrawn have moved out of state or out of district so again it's just the 20 of the 66 who have either withdrawn to virtual school or home school on just a few updates all the second graders who needed devices were distributed so again thank you we had some great volunteers we had great staff ms nathan mr curtis and our programmatic aides all were key in getting these devices distributed we had 70 k1 tablets distributed as well we have 18 kg hotspots out so everybody that said they need a hot spot has one we mrs cuevas also started a google doc to track the student participation for teachers to fill out so we currently have 22 students who are not actively participating in digital learning so we're going to be following up with home visits and contacts with the students because teachers have tried phone calls and emails so now we're going to go knock on their doors the pima county health department has assigned a rep to our school like they stated we would have to be in contact with our nurse with maureen so they have their contacts so in cases of covet positive or cope with people who have been exposed to coven she will be the contact person with pima county health to do the reporting and they will be guiding us in next steps in terms of quarantine and dating our school like we were saying two students who or two people in a classroom who test positive would be considered a um an outbreak so that still hasn't changed we also have good news we have 214 signed waivers we did roll out the acknowledgement forms on monday and as a four o'clock today we had 72 signed acknowledgement forms so we had a parent call in the evening the first parent call last week to discuss any questions about the waivers or acknowledgement forms and also reopening the school discussions that were went well and we're going to offer another parent zoom call tomorrow at 4 30 to 5 30 and open it up to any parents who want to ask questions about what participation did you get we had was it 40 parents there were about 40 parents on the call the first call and we encouraged them we said let your friends know that we're open to listen and a lot of it was dialogue amongst themselves and and it was pretty um split we have the parents who are saying again like our staff we want our kids back in school what's going to happen and others who are saying why they're concerned but we did try to explain that the waivers and the acknowledgement forms truly a vital piece of that is parents doing their part and not sending their kids to school and making sure that they don't have any of the symptoms to help us in this team effort of making sure that all kids are safe so the progress report again um we don't have to show it it hasn't this is as of august 21st it didn't change from august 13th which we showed at our last meeting but we know that they will update the progress report on thursday so tomorrow we're hoping that it's going to look more in the yellow in the progress areas so again um like i mentioned pima county superintendents we're hopeful and anticipating that we will be in the yellow progress category by september 8th so in my superintendent's meetings that's what we're all anticipating and just to reiterate i did include in the packet the memorandum that we received by mr chuck huckleberry and i think the biggest thing in that memorandum was our concern last time that we had the state and pima county saying two different things and we had two different criteria that we were looking at and so now the scientifically based criteria offered by the state of arizona and pima county have been aligned to avoid any possible contraction or confusion so we were happy about that because all the superintendents were having the same conversation we were having on what metrics are we truly looking at so we were happy that that was the memo that we received for the back to school committee that was by mr williams so again in that memo it states when progress is shown for each of the nine criteria in the yellow this will signal when the pima county health department may recommend schools begin hybrid instruction some face-to-face instruction combined with online so we are preparing superintendents are preparing hybrid models of providing in-person instruction once all nine indicators are in the yellow progress zone i wanted to just share their opening plans in tucson and some surrounding schools like us and set the aspirational date of september 8th again looking at starting a hybrid model as soon as all the metrics are in yellow they are having their meeting as well tonight at six o'clock their meeting starts i spoke to mr vanenzuela and they're looking at as soon as the metrics are yellow at a hybrid model of a monday tuesday cohort a wednesday being a cleaning day and thursday friday cohort b i think as a leadership team and listening and speaking to our board we really feel like we want to try to get the kids to have daily instruction as much as possible if we can work it out we don't have class sizes of 32 or 35 are when we say our numbers are higher than 17 we're looking at 21 and 22 in the elementary second grade is the highest with 27 and i'll show you another grid middle school has the classes that have 27 28 but we'll have to readjust the master schedule and kind of see what we can do in that area schools that have announced to start after fall break in october are tusd tanka verdi and sunnyside they'll set a start date between september 14th and october 5th is what they have nogales started with small special ed cohorts on monday and they have no definite date to begin in person learning and they're watching the mentions closely rio rico approved an aspirational in-person hybrid start date of october 12th so they're pushing even the hybrid model later than most of us would like to see so i included a few examples of hybrid models where the class is divided in half and which is the sawahita model monday tuesday and the other cohort the 10th thursday friday we talked about amnp hemp cohorts which would be the preferred continental model if needed i did speak with our second grade teachers being that we have 27 kids in the two in-person teacher classrooms thinking that we have to split that up and make a third class and maybe some kids half of the cohort comes in the morning and the other half one half of that one third of that cohort would stay in the evening or the afternoon and we'd have to provide in-house coverage with existing staff so that's just something second grade would like to have them and they preferred an am pm model versus a two day a week in person for students so a transition model includes the following allowing special education students and kindergartners on campus first and slowly transition transitioning additional grade levels many are still contemplating what a hybrid model would look like for middle school and high school students so these are just conversations that we've been having with superintendents and you know every district district is different the needs are different the kids are different in terms of where what kids need so we've been working with our teachers to develop a transition plan that will ensure processes in the coop are doable and consistent so students must be taught and given the opportunity to practice the procedures and expectations so as we have met and discussed we were hoping that if all nine indicators are yellow we could follow plan a which would be september eighth and ninth we would bring one grade level in from each pod so we would bring in kindergartners second graders and fourth graders to return to school to make sure that we can get their temperatures checked make sure that we can practice and show them how and when they need to wear their masks how to line up what recess will look like then we would look at september 10th and 11th bringing in first third and fifth graders and then on september 14th bringing in the rest of the middle school students and that's assuming everything's in the yellow yes right which today is not right but we're hoping that by september 8th we would be um if not all night indicators are in yellow and we were just thinking as a team if if if not all nine indicators are in yellow we could follow plan b with the governor approver approval to operate in hybrid mode um and and you know we're listening to our teachers in terms of their reservations so if we're not all in the yellow and we do truly have to start school then our plan b would be that on the week of september 8th through the 11th so that would give us four days to work on our processes and procedures with kinder second and fourth the following week we would add first third and fifth the following week we would add middle school so it would just push it back another week and that would put us that all students living on campus for two weeks ten days prior to fall break those are the same dates they're the same well they're kind of spread out though so if we're in the yellow plan a is everybody back in two weeks if we're not in the yellow it's giving us an extra week and everybody being back in three weeks just to make sure that we can ensure the safety of the kids so for current class sizes if you see here in kindergarten are two in-person teachers we've had 18 and 21 students our digital teacher has 21.

dysart experience in support of our district my yes for dysart story started in 1993 when my single mother enrolled my brother and i in kingswood elementary i was an esl learner which is an english as a second language learner and i came from a low-income family dysert was there to support me dicer is a place that supported and challenged me as a student it's the place that offered me my first teaching position it's the place that fostered my passion for education and it's the place i turned to when it came time to enroll my children in school i have said yes to dicer as a student a teacher a parent and a community member i'm a proud dicer product and i'm urging everyone here to share their yes for dysart stories so that come this november election we will all know that our override and i'm here to discuss the different opportunities that congresswoman lesko's office has to offer i am her community outreach liaison and i have given each one of you palm card that talks about the different services that our office offers first of all we do deal with a lot of federal agencies so anybody who has issues with federal agencies can contact our office and we are actually right here in surprise and it is open to the public by appointment only right now but i do want to talk about how we can impact the students here in dysart first of all we do have an app challenge that is available to those that are in junior high up to high school there is a recommended registration date by september 1st the deadline is october 19th this is where the the kids have an opportunity to actually build an app for your phones i mean it's pretty incredible that they do this now there's also the scholastic achievement program last year 317 dysart students were given the scholastic achievement award and they are nominated by their principals the other thing that we have is the art competition this is pretty exciting for those students also it's the junior high in high school students what they do is they give an art project to our office it gets voted on and actually the last time that we had this prior to covid was right over here at the vista so the person the student that comes in third place their art is displayed in the local office for a full year second place is in congresswoman lesko's d.c office for a full year first place is in congress with all of those winners nationwide for a whole year it's pretty exciting to have something like that we also have a surplus book program through the library of congress this is something that a lot of people are really not aware of your teachers your librarians anyone in the school they can go to congresswoman lesko's website and request specific books from the surplus book program it gets delivered to our office and then we bring it to whoever is requesting those books and then we also have military academy nominations and those who do want to go to the military academies they do need to have a letter of recommendation from somebody in congress whether it's your local congress person or whether or not it's your senator uh and we're talking about the u.s congress not your local senators and a congress people here and also i did notice that principal hawkins walked out however he was also given a letter of recommendation this is another thing that we do through our office and so if there is anyone that you know here in dysart that goes above and beyond we want to know about them thank you so much anyone else excellent thank you all right we'll go ahead and move on to item e1 superintendent update dr kellis thank you president leonard members of the board and members of cabinet just as a our weekly celebration of the annual celebration of our centennial as a reminder that we are celebrating our 100th anniversary this year and this is a memorable year um lots lots of history is being made just as when we first launched as a district we made history our 100th anniversary is making history that will go down in the books forever um supporters of dysart are coming out of the woodwork we are so privileged to be able to acknowledge the the many many efforts of volunteers of community members of businesses and the supporters of dysert are extraordinary and the things that they do to support kids is extraordinary i'd like to thank our staff and our parents for their endurance and for the extraordinary efforts that they are making to make sure that our students are having a tremendous learning experience at home and we can't wait for them to come back and have an in-class extraordinary learning experience but it takes a village and the village is all coming together and we'd like to extend our thanks to the village thank you excellent thank you for that update we'll go ahead and move on to e2 governing board updates anything done all right that'll be short and sweet just wanted to say congratulations to those that were recognized tonight and it's awesome you know especially biology i remember uh have many fond memories of being in biology class i think that was one of my favorites so we'll go ahead and move on um moving down to action item f1 motion to approve consensus consent agenda items as presented i move the governing board approve consent agenda items as presented all second motion made by jen tanner seconded by jay leonard let's go ahead and vote motion passes thank you we will go ahead and move on down to information item item h1 policy governance uh board monitoring of adopted policies section 2 governing board dr kalis thank you president leonard members of the board members of cabinet this evening we will continue with our regular monitoring of governing board policy and mr croto will introduce this item thank you dr kellis president leonard members of the board superintendent kellis and cabinet tonight we continue our board monitoring of adopted policies with section two we bring section two to you this evening we do have one change in policy 2.19 last week we did discuss the ability to bring second reads of policy to the consent agenda therefore we need to change policy 2.19 in the policy adoption we are scratching the words discussion and in policy adoption second reading to read the proposal shall be presented for action and that allow us to put that into a consent on the second reads and that is all the changes and i'll stand for any questions thank you very much any questions all right thank you for that let's go ahead and move on to item h2 um update on uh enrollment and staffing for 2020 2021 school year dr kellis thank you president leonard members of the board of members of cabinet each year administration shares with the governing board information about our current staffing statistics and mr croto will introduce this item as well thank you again dr kellis president leonard members of the board superintendent kellis and cabinet tonight we have our annual enrollment staffing report to take a look at the numbers currently in the district maybe and maybe not there we go um longitudinal enrollment data first day of school so up here you see four years of enrollment uh this year on the first day of school compared to last year we were up 96 students we were down 60 in elementary and up 156 in high school and that was the first day of school next slide if somebody's there okay and one week comparison after one week of school so from 8 11 to 8 4 there was not a gain of students actually we were down 267 students so a lot of that is attained to cleaning up some of the enrollment actions and if kids are truly coming this year presents obviously some challenging times with kovid and kids enrolling in those kind of challenges so we are down after the first week 266 that's down 158k eight students and down 109 high school students okay um preschool programs our current student enrollments or ess preschool uh compared to last year is at 459 last year was 801.

news all right we're going to move on to some board comments anybody have any comments tonight all quiet on the front we have a lot of request to speak comments so let's get right to those we value input from our constituents this time has been set aside for anyone from the audience who wishes to address the board please remember this is not an appropriate venue to evaluate discuss or criticize district personnel policy keb provides a process for complaints about personnel speakers should be aware that the false statements about individuals may result in civil liability members of the board may not discuss items that are not specifically identified on the agenda therefore pursuant to ars 38-431-0 h action taken as a result of public comment will be limited to directing staff to study the matter responding to any criticism or scheduling the matter for further consideration and decision at a later date please limit your remarks to three minutes thank you dr thomason and mrs martin's tonight president keeler i'm ever grateful to have executive director of human resources mom martin's helping me tonight we do have quite a few to get through it probably take us a little over an hour so we'll get started right away the first one i have is from sharon dalton she has children at gateway points cooley and williamsfield please do not open schools until it is safe possibly second semester we have scott and katie bucci children at gateway point coulee middle school in williamsfield high school please wait until safety metrics have been met and maintained as planned before reopening schools next we have jeremy brimmer with 10 kids as an employee and as a parent of killed children i would like to put my request in that we do not return via hybrid model but return to full-time learning when the time does happen hybrid learning where students only go two to three times per week and then do remote learning the remaining days would be very challenging for parents to navigate and figure out opportunities appropriate for supervision of their children although on paper it may seem like the safer option it will put even more undue pressure on parents to make appropriate arrangements for their children because of not having consistent a consistent schedule during the week to count on it will also place a lot more work on the district employees to make it all work smoothly for all parties involved we have great parents in this district and i feel blessed to be working with them on behalf of their children children's education and hope that if the decision to go back is either via hybrid model or full-time learning we would choose full-time learning to help support our parents and the students thank you for your time barbara sumners williamsfield hosd board and leadership my family is greatly disappointed in the manipulation of the metrics that don't consider families and staff that live work and congregate outside of the specific zip codes that make up our district i am saddened that no consideration was taken into account for these important pieces in our overall safety for students and staff it is also further noted that the district and board has not taken into consideration the problems that arise for families who have chosen the online learning option via the numerous surveys distributed my family has only indicated online since the first survey in june and still my students schedule contained of three or five classes that will not be offered on the online model which i have been told by various staff members counselor and case manager and dean of students that these classes were requested to be purchased from florida virtual learning school fvls and the board declined them i asked i asked one week into school that my child be moved to classes that were going to be online to prevent a disruption in learning and was told to send her for just those classes hard pass on that but no one made the accommodations requested we are now far enough into the year that losing these those classes becomes a huge disruption to learning and starting other classes would mean trying to catch up we've been told by several administration members and school counselor that not finishing the full semester means no credit for work done these classes are all needed for graduation one of them specific math classes was not included in the purchase from fvls even though it is available i know i'm not alone in my concern for loss of classes especially this late at this late point i hope that the agenda will be revised quickly and to include accommodations for students to finish courses they have already started online with their current teachers unfortunately i do not expect the board or administration to have any concern for the disruption and learning or the loss of students who might move to gps or mps where the online academics offered most where the online academy is offer most all of the courses not being offered by each usd i hope that those board members who wanted metrics to be met before returning to school are taking into consideration those metrics provided are so narrow they do not truly cover the scope of our community and how this and the disruption to learning due to classes not being offered that students already started could impact so many disappointed but not alone barbara subner's longtime husd supporter matthew gray i would like to thank the board for their previous decisions keeping our teachers and students safe by online learning also school administrators for working tirelessly to get plans in motion i am deeply concerned that we will have an outbreak when we come back to school especially when you look at other districts throughout the nation who are now having to close and go back to online learning a hybrid option is sensible especially when it comes to cleaning our classrooms and maintaining safe healthy hygiene again thank you for the very important and tough decisions the board members have made and i apologize if i butcher names but andrew bostis i would like to thank the board for all their hard work during this difficult time but i feel that it is not i feel that it is a bad idea to open schools at this time the chance for more infections is too great and i feel that starting school at this time will fragment our student population making it harder to reach students due to inconsistent attendance by both teachers and students also the district is still waiting for sanitizing equipment please wait until please wait until end of quarter one i feel the data will only improve and we can return to school with less distractions and spend more of our efforts connecting with students and promoting teaching and learning from don anderson a child at higley high school hello i teach at higley high school and have been an employee of higley unified school district for 15 years i am department chair and nationally board certified i know our admin has worked tirelessly to come up with a workable plan and i respect and thank the board for all its efforts as well but i do not personally think we should return to campus yet i write to you to voice my opposition to the return to school date the board is considering based on the following one the teacher survey conducted about return to school was not adequately worded for the board to have correct i to have a correct idea of how many staff are actually opposed to the return to on-campus learning two the az health data shared in the return to campus presentation by dr foley showed we have not met actually met the arizona department of health metric on for on-campus learning but somehow we can we counted it as met which betrays fidelity with the board's original decision three the plan shared with staff during today's meeting it was inadequate to address my concerns my own health personal personal health concerns 4.

bulldogs and the columbus east olympians lumeta nora dwinger number three alison craig number eight nadia harris number nine elena winger number 10 chloe miller number 11 abby miller number 13 catherine wolfe number 16 gabby schutz number 21 hannah hammerline and number 31 alexis spurgeon and now for the home team your columbus north bulldogs end goal number double zero mallory gilly number two kate pohlhaus number five laney moore number six ryan stevens number seven claire livers number eight lauren whitley number eleven lauren parker number fourteen nithya number sixteen riley number 17 kj ely and number 20 jenna lang let's have a great match tonight lady good luck for coach elia schwartzman's olympians we are starting allison craig alexis spurgeon norah dwenger gabby schutz nadia harris abby miller hannah hemerlein katherine wolf elena dwinger chloe miller and anna limata for dave young's north bulldogs mallory gilly will be in gold with riley schum kate cole house nitya chananda claire livers ryan stevens lauren whitley jenna lange lauren barker laney moore and kj ely abby miller to take the kick off and we are set to play looks like columbus east is starting in a 442 diamond with wide forwards and north will be playing in a typical 433 system how we got to this point east has one win over bloomington north and two one goal losses against number seven bloomington south and roncalli the north bulldogs are three in one with a win over center grove a win over seymour franklin and a loss to number five for buff miller miller out to miller switch out from wolf to dwenger dwinger looks long and finds her sister gabby shoots controls she's confronted by kj ely shuts down the down the sideline and across it's going to go out for a goal kick malory gilly is a sophomore goalkeeper she's a move in from south carolina very big pickup for dave young and his bulldogs pause in action looks like we have an injury on the field for the olympians ruth federally is going to make the change for norah dwinger federally a freshman she'll be stepping in to play right back okay cool house to take the goal kick and it's played long into the middle where miller regains possession wolf to harris harris wolf to the left back allison craig craig carries forward and this will be collected by chananda in the back pressed by harris plays long out for an east throw in to whitley whitley splits two plays a hopeful pass to jenna lang lang fights off miller plays the ball in behind looks like claire liver is out on the left flank deflection by ruth fetterly fairly plays out of bound it will be a bulldog throw deep in their final third ely to throw shoots controls federally overlapping and cool house clears to stevens stevens the ely ely unable to connect to livers will be an east throw in a lot of youth in the lineup for both groups looks like east is starting two freshmen um nadia harris number eight and number 19 ruth fairley jenna lang step over to the left shot saved by ana limata east is really gonna have to do a good job controlling lang running out of the middle and trying to push her to her right barker and miller and barker comes away with it lanny moore making an inside out run and we switch out to livers livers head up faints service into the box second ball cleaned up by lang lang hopeful pass into barker intercepted by allison craig out to kj ely ely works inside out to lauren whitley whitley dispossessed and ryan stevens pokes it forward where federly redirects it back into the middle right now neither team really possessing the ball finding the rhythm of the game looks like we're going to start a little bit now coal house diagonal ball intercepted by miller and gilly will control for the north gilly puts it back in the middle where wolf redirects but it's picked up by lauren barker barker inside she's got livers on her left looks to slip through and federally federally with a tackle and played up the line to be intercepted by kj ely livers back to cool house kohlhaus looking long finds jenna lange good interception by ryan stevens so so far neither team really really settling into the game still a little bit back and forth still looking to regain possession with either group um you'll have that time to time with a rivalry game um hopefully in the next five five six minutes we can settle down and see some passes strung together hammer line out federally federally connects inside to abby miller and find nadia harris swinger down the middle enchanted does well intercepting she shoots in the dwyer dwinger just misses to the back post so coming into the game thinking about some of the key points that either team needs to capitalize on um for east they really need to be able to connect passes and take advantage of their skillful players up front with dwinger and schutz and winger has to be involved early and bring others into the game for north can they have really good final third decisions and the application and they have to be wary of the counter attack that columbus east brings forward ely into lanny moore spurgeon on her back ball inside the barker barker barker and allison craig two of the better sophomores in columbus laying left foot and that's a goal jenna lange with her 14th goal of the year off of a redirected 50 50 ball that she was able to settle take a touch and hammer home past the keeper that gives columbus north a 1-0 lead [Music] dwinger craig to harris harris finds chloe miller and federally as federally moves into open areas healy pressed by schutz just lets it run out for a throw in plays into livers livers lays it back to stephen stephen switches the ball and riley schum starts to join the attack miller with the interception finds her sister jenna lang regains possession for columbus north kj elya a athletic hybrid wing back carries forward wolf out wide dallas and craig craig carrying forward connects with winger dwinger inside turns pokes to harris harris double team by a couple of bulldogs there lang comes out with it lang threw ball to livers livers receives cuts in front of spurgeon plays a hopeful ball that's going to end up in the goalkeeper's hands leave it up back in the middle carrick cole house steps out of the back to intercept that one barker inside looking for laney moore out on the right half space intercepted by all-conference center-back hannah hammerline and north will have another deep throw in the olympians back third shoom into barker parker turns down the right outside spurgeon intercepted and we'll have another bulldog throw columbus east is led by coach ilya schwartzman he is in his 16th year at columbus east ballet back to ely and redirected past lima to that is very unfortunate for the olympians ilia is in his 16th year at columbus east and he has built a hoosier hills conference dynasty 14 out of the 15 hoosier hill conference championships have been won by the olympians schwartzman has also compiled three sectionals and two regionals he is assisted by kylie stattenfield troy hall and spencer ud dave young is in his second season with columbus north um after a 14-3 campaign where they won the conference indiana championship he's he has high hopes for this year's team he's assisted by dane whitley emma dwenger who is the sister of elena and nora dwinger ej young and goalkeeper coach charlotte verbanik east wins a corner let's see if they can get back into the game and capitalize they play short to craig craig combines back out with winger dwinger ball back into the middle harris poke looks like it deflected off the keeper we're going to have another east corner um looks like a set piece straight from training um gotta make really good opportunity well done by the olympians dwinger sets it again ball driven into the box gilly gets her hands on it and she escapes hammerline cole house possesses for she looks long craig headed out of danger barker regains it picked up by shoots shuts deflected back kathleen sodell's checked into the game she's going to be a player that is looked upon to settle the game down connect passes retain possession for the olympians good step by miller ealy looks wide to livers livers has a step on shuts serves a left footed ball back back post delaney more laney off the knee picked up by liam it's a pretty good look by the bulldogs liver is very dangerous down that left-hand side cannon of a foot able to create a lot of havoc in the box with dangerous services and finishing ability it's like we have a foul here whitley to restart she looks to play in behind lang picks it up and that's gonna go out for an olympian goal kick lamido plays it central livers intercepts connects to lang lang to whitley whitley has a go it's going to go a little bit wide goal kick east key matchup to look at um east left back allison craig and norse right winger lauren barker little known fact but those two trained together this summer quite frequently with a couple other other players playing in this game but that's a key matchup with two of the better sophomores in southern indiana with craig and her sound defending and barker's athletic and attacking prowess it's a key key match up for tonight bulldogs look to build out of the back switch the ball out to ely eely's got space livers provide support wide hearing shoots go at it liver's another dangers crossed into the box intercepted by alexis spurgeon spurgeon clears long picked off by ely ely essentially looks to connect wide for for our match up with barker and craig craig wins that one oh maybe not barker back at it the thing that is very impressive about the columbus north front runners is um the more havoc that is in the game and the more dangerous opportunities look um the better they are you know lauren barker watched that kid for a few years she really thrives in chaotic situations and you know balls from the flank into the box are going to be really difficult for any player to deal with and then definitely a player that when they have lauren barker on their back so continue to see north try to build through that left side with livers providing dangerous service to front runners laney moore and lauren barker crashing the backside sydney burkmeyer checks into the game very talented sophomore for columbus east lang in the livers confronted by spurgeon bounces out to laney moore hammerline clears wide and will be in north throw in riley's shoe to take the throw barker and it looks like a little disputed call by hannah hemerlein um corner kick for the bulldogs lauren whitley to take the kick she looked short to jenna lange lang 1v1 with abby miller steps inside shot deflection looks like it's going to go wide and will be another north corner we will play from the other side this time whitley to take it whitley to serve out to steven stevens finds ely back out to whitley puts it on her right foot serves a great ball to the back post laying there over two olympians out of bounds for an east restart good crowd tonight um always great to see people coming out supporting soccer events in the community uh one of the highlights of the year is always the east north soccer games you know while not in the same conference they they definitely match up once a year and usually match up in the sectional depending on the draw and the results and this year we're playing at the richard y soccer complex at david greenfield next year and hopefully for the sectional we will be playing at the new bcsc soccer complex just behind us this year the sectional will be held in columbus and both east and north as well as 19th ranked center grove whiteland franklin and greenwood will be competing one of the more difficult sectionals in 3a soccer and we are happy to host it in columbus this year miller cuts stevens inside cuts barker inside finds burke meyer burke meyer looks out to the left we've got craig joining the attack intercepted by whitley whitley looks along to moore intercepted by craig miller picks it up miller plays back to schutz and riley schumel control for north to barker parker lays it back to chenonda shananda looks long diagonal finds livers ely with the overlap and chloe miller regains the ball for east looks long to sodel sodell holds off livers livers wins it back to coal house coal house into lang lang turns inside spurgeon knocks the ball away regains with olympians out down the left flank to allison craig craig inside shoom hopeful ball finds barker barker turns faces up she's got lanny moore ahead of her and she's going to take himmerlin down the right flank barker works down the byline cuts back double team by a pair of olympians and the ball go out for a north corner third corner of the game for north whitley to take ely on the keeper willie serves out to lange and carried forward by alexis spurgeon spurgeon looks along to dwinger riley schuman interception off the back she must have a club coach teacher that livers inside delang lang sombrero nope and east is going to regain in north is going to regain in the east half beautiful evening this evening really jealous of the fans down there getting these one six pizza and watch the match burke meyer intercepted by shum shroom connects to whitley whitley in space to ryan stevens dwenger great back pressing to regain possession looks like sodell's winger diagonal ball inside that's going to be taken away by chananda but regained by wolf wolf to abby miller miller oh intercepted by coal house picked off by schutz a little back and forth right now out of the air by schum barker great touch abby miller finds dwinger looking for for burkmeyer back out to miller miller is going to have a chance ooh she almost caught gilly off of her line gilly did enough to punch it over the bar but we will have an east corner nice opportunity by abby miller oh the ref is being very particular right now and he wants the ball on the other side and abby miller will put the ball in for east see if we can find spurgeon dwinger or hammerline out of the air here and picked off by the first player spurgeon regains lays the ball back to wolf wolf has a crack at it it's going to go out for a north goal kick 17 minutes and 45 seconds remaining and we have a two to nothing lead for the columbus north bulldogs subbing in for north is going to be senior number 10 helena hoe and a name that many of you basketball fans would be familiar with number four new to soccer alexa mckinley point guard for the north basketball team spurgeon clears wide ealy picks it up healy finds whitley lilly inside double team by a couple olympians looks to find schum on the right side shum to lang lang dummy turn craig craig did enough but lang regains it lange running in central spaces this is when she's very very dangerous great tackled by gabby schutz shoots tackle finds wolf wolf out wide looking for sodell was not able to connect chaotic situations and jenna lang running into central areas those are things the bulldogs want to find stevens plays inside to mckinley mckinley turns faces forward looking for options gonna try to hold off spurgeon spurgeon wins the ball but gives it away for a north throw quick restart by schum ball finds barker's foot top of the box right at limata good win by coal house lang look looks long to hoe chloe miller does a very good job intercepting there eely into barker lang faces up has riley schum overlapping ignores it decides she's going to step inside step over ball the top of the box great save by limata odds are when jenna lane gets the ball she's going to try to get back to that left foot kathleen sodell going to press kj ely ealy pull back into whitley whitley back to ely haley clears long and miller will win that nice work back there by anna limata promising sophomore stepped in and has done a pretty good job this season um you know pretty young but i think she's she's butting into a top-notch goalkeeper and it's going to be exciting to see how she develops in over the next couple years and potentially playing in college barker ball in the mixer picked up by lang lang step over back to her left foot hopeful against the grain ball and for mckinley almost got it and north knocks the ball around in the back finds finds ely in the space down the left side into the central areas connects with barker barker faces up cuts left back right ball and goal picked up by limita plays long dwinger north is really keeping their back four intact and they're holding player ryan stevens they're doing a really good job of preventing elena dwinger from creating havoc being dangerous good step by gabby schutz mckinley looks left poke inside to whitley whitley cuts back on her right finds lange in the right half space slow roller it's not going to be limited from there and foul okay cool house shoulder charge in the back of sydney berkmeyer east will restart play in the half circle abby miller nope hannah himmerline will take the kick see if east can get something going um been very impressed with the play of catherine wolfe so far and both the miller girls like their their vision up flick on by burkmeyer well done by gilly i think that east gets back in this game by some intricate passing with with miller or wolf and some movement from dwinger up front and we can make this a very interesting match shoom out wide to lang lang touches outside confronted by spurgeon plays negative to chananda will mention last year as a center back out wide to ely easily tons of space carrying forward confronted by miller inside good back pressing by burke meyer regained by the olympians looks long and this will be controlled by gilly back line of north um they do not give up many goals pretty tidy back there thus far in four games have given up three goals east though is definitely capable of a big offensive output um scoring eight goals against bloomington north including four by elena dwinger ball out for a north restart about 10 minutes left in the first half north holding on to a 2-0 lead claire livers is going to come in for kj ely and emily kleinhelter is going to step in for helena ho ruth fetterly steps in for east as does freshman nadia harris federly and harris both freshmen um each have recorded two assists on the season which has to be promising for ilya schwartzman's future you have two quality players that you can play in a number of attacking positions and they're going to be kids that give you a lot of positive opportunities over the next four years lang against the grain ball to mckinley intercepted by craig schumer restart play near midfield riley schum a two-year starter for north um sophomore has stepped in to her role and has done quite well for herself over the course of the last two seasons um kleinhelter lays back to livers iris puts the brakes on finds klein helter again barker inside out run isolated harris out on the wing cuts inside and oh great save by lima almost caught her off of her line but anna reacted able to snag it play short to craig i like it east looking to transition quickly ball picked up by burke meyer shonda and burke meyer and we'll play no advantage there east free kick i like the look from east playing quick seeing if they can catch north out seeing if we can get numbers forward great decision by the sophomore goalkeeper and the sophomore left back we won't debate if it was a tactical foul or not but bringing it back doesn't necessarily hurt columbus north miller two-man wall for north drives the ball in harris receives let me poked away by coal house shuts chased down by ruth federer she's going to get there seals off klein helter looks inside finds harris can we string more so delve looks for dwinger dwinger 1v1 with shananda chenonda pokes the ball out wide dwinger settles faces up able to get by down to the byline cross back into the box picked off by gilly up liking the tempo from east right now trying to play trying to knock the ball trying to get into dangerous areas barker looks long well played by miller miller carrying in the middle federally to her right looks long to dwinger well played by mallory gilley gilly looking inside well played by burke meyer ryan stevens muscles through finds mckinley federally regains federally so federally klein helter inside inside out run by lang lang pushes into space down the left side ball back into central areas unable to connect to barker or mckinley allison craig comes out with the ball for east now starting to hear a little bit from the crowd it's been relatively quiet tonight too much chick-fil-a too much swans eggs not enough cheering come on guys shananda back into barker parker looks inside hannah himmerlin a senior in all hoosier hills conference honoree last year um and a captain for columbus east you have to think she is looking to play at the next level um would be a great prospect to have on a roster and we'll have a north corner kick quite a few college prospects out here right now ranging from some players looking at some big schools big division one schools to naia d2d3 athletes one of those athletes elixir mckinley she has committed to olivet nazarene to play basketball [Music] it may be wrong but i feel that maybe her brother is there now barker um just miss hits going to go out for an east goal kick subbing back in catherine wolfe catherine wolfe is going to come in and looks like abby miller is going to take a break chloe miller that's an honest mistake limita in redirected by hammerline whitley picks up solid tackle by harris willie comes through with it looks to lang lang left foot inside to mckinley mckinley bounces out decline helter klein helter hopeful ball picked up by limita three minutes remaining in the half good coverage by ryan stevens ryan stevens a solid steady player in the middle of the park for the bulldogs has tremendously improved over the years provides a great sense of positional awareness lang toe poke terror back post just missed it coach schwartzman instructing his back line um just to have a little bit more cover play with a little more depth again east play is short to craig craig out to sodell may have been a foul shoe to barker barker cuts inside cuts outside gets stepped by craig great poke by gabby should's out to wolf wolf finds sodell pressed by shum shum cuts back inside picked up by whitley whitley finds mckinley mckinley cuts inside right to the left inside the box good step and that's coming out with an east kick you know alex mckinley comes out to play basketball from basketball first year playing soccer in years years years and an athlete's an athlete she looks pretty good right now um good option for coach young to bring in off the bench that can provide it provide some vision and some hold up play and then some more depth for your front line gilly out to shum shum rolls it out wide right to barker barker carries inside pushes forward craig confronts it pokes it away picked up by klein helter out to livers livers 1v1 abby miller pushes it left slows it down pull back and pretty good battle both ways there klein helter laid back to livers livers into the middle looks like mckinley dummies turns outside 1v1 with craig pulls back back into whitley willie retains possession of lang lang pulls the trigger off the crossbar goalkeeper's best friend willie regains in the in the lang lang de kleinhelter kleinhelter looks inside diagonal ball the back post mckinley's gonna get there 10 seconds left ball back in hammerline clears back to mckinley and hopeful ball finding no one to end the half at half time we have a two to nothing match columbus north over columbus east we're gonna take a break and we will be right back with you in the ninth minute [Music] [Applause] [Music] josh burnett back here with you tonight halftime here at the columbus north columbus east girls soccer game tomorrow night columbus north boys and columbus east boys will be facing off in the crosstown confrontation it'll be another great game i want to say a special thanks to ty smith for being our announcer tonight ty is the the lead guy over at columbus express soccer club and they're just doing a great job of continuing to develop the youth in our community that is putting on uh just some some great players every year that we get to watch tonight so thank you to ty and all of his team for everything that they do to develop youth soccer in columbus we'd also like to say thank you to each of our sponsors we couldn't do this without you we are trying to do everything we can to stream the northeast games for soccer for volleyball and we will be doing all of the home football games for columbus east and columbus north many people have asked questions of hey why are you choosing to to do all the football games and maybe just the east north contest for sports like soccer and volleyball well there is a reason for that we have got some major funding that we're trying to make up for all of our athletic departments and because of our sponsors like ruoff mortgage ovation technology group as well as companies like columbus wealth jolie development and jolie rentals first financial bank as well as overhead door of south central indiana we're able to recoup some of the dollars that we have lost as you look around you might see some fans throughout this contest tonight and thankfully for sports like soccer we're able to physical distance and it's it's a different ball game when it comes to the number of fans than a football game for instance we can get up to you know thousands and thousands you know let's imagine sixty five hundred seven thousand fans at a columbus north football game well that's that's a lot of lost revenue for our athletic departments and so because of our sponsors we're able to help generate some of those dollars that are lost and then we're able to spread those around to both athletic departments and we're thankful for the opportunity to partner with great community sponsors like we've mentioned and we're going to continue to do everything we can to stream games throughout the fall and you know the pandemic has caused this but we're committing to this in the long haul so this year you know it's a it's a pretty rag tag crew of uh people like myself josh burnett bcsc communications coordinator and a lot of volunteers and i'm thankful for people like ty smith and and for uh people like brett boseman that have volunteered to help dustin lohman redbridge media we've got a couple students over at columbus east that have helped us out you know and so if you're looking to volunteer i would love to have you you know come and be a part of this we're excited to be able to provide live streaming tonight at the east north soccer game and we're going to be doing this tomorrow night as well and then we can't wait to live stream the friday night football game at columbus north high school and then we'll also be live streaming the columbus north columbus east volleyball game and we're really looking forward to to being able to support all these programs and to try to recoup some of those lost revenue i want to give a quick plug to our booster clubs both for columbus east and columbus north many of you who have watched these different streams have reached out whether it be on facebook or through email and you've asked hey you know i'm able to come to the games and i really enjoy that or or maybe i couldn't come to the games but i still want to give and so i would encourage you to to give each of our athletic departments a call see how you can donate some of your some of your dollars some of your time some of your connections because we really need it during this time of covid19 you know up here in the booth right now maybe we'll get to talk to him in a second is the new athletic director of columbus north brian lewis and you know he's very excited to be here in columbus but as he comes in this was supposed to be a huge year for his athletic department when it comes to revenue because he's hosting the columbus east columbus north football game but because of covet 19 instead of thousands we're down to hundreds and so that's why we're trying to recruit some of those dollars through sponsorships as well as trying to help out in any way possible let's see here we'll take a quick break and we will be right back each of your important loan documents into one secure space just a clickity click and before you know it you're home delightful apply online today visit lonebutler.com [Music] well here we are here back again uh columbus north columbus soccer game and we are joined up in the booth with brand new athletic director brian lewis we're super excited to have him all the way from missouri he did have quite a career at indiana university where he played football for the hoosiers and tonight brian we're watching another type of football we're watching soccer well as you've watched this game you know tell me your thoughts but also tell me a little bit about yourself and what you think about columbus so far yeah so uh born and raised in saint louis missouri from the inner city um graduated from a uh a school that was very diverse which is one of the things that you know really pushed me to come to columbus because i just love being in a place where diversity is part of the culture and and it's been really nice trying to get acclimated and get to know different coaches get to know different teachers in the building so it's been really a great experience thus far obviously the the rival isn't as big as it was last year but you can tell that just from talking to people in the community how big and special this this rival is so i'm really looking forward to the football game on friday and the the boys soccer game tomorrow so there's a lot of great events going on so hopefully if you're not doing anything if the football game has been live stream and the soccer game has been live streaming as well so even though you can't make it to the game we're still giving everybody the opportunity to be able to see all of our student athletes perform while they're sitting at home so i think that's a great job bcsc has done a really great job josh has made it possible for everybody in the community to make sure that they're supporting all of our kids because i mean that's that's what we got into this field to do awesome hey thank you so much for joining us brian and you know all the way this is the first columbus north east uh soccer game that you've watched and you're up 2-0 that's pretty nice start it is it's nice to when you win and you never want to be on the other side of the fence so it's been great my first year here i mean the teams have been pretty successful so i'm happy and hopefully we can continue on on the ride that we're we're on so yeah thank you awesome well make sure to uh you know i'm sure during uh during there'll be some opportunities throughout the year where you'll be able to meet brian and learn more about his story we're going to go ahead and get back to the game i'm going to turn things over to ty smith thank you for tuning in second half here at columbus north columbus east game and we're back craig inside miller miller confronted by whitley miller inside it connects the wolf wolf cuts inside stevens dispossessed by coal house coal house to lang lang out to klein helter no major changes with either team's shape thus far par for the course as the first half cool house diagonal to whitley whitley pull back wants to bring schuman to play shoom carrying forward penetrating ball and a mckinley intercepted by hammerline who gives north a corner half time for both teams you'd have to think that north is probably trying to still get forward connect a lot of passes and see if they can create more chances um down the flank or inside um and east i think coach schwartzman probably stressing oh off the bar he's probably stressing can we play at a quicker tempo be a little bit more dynamic up front when they were connecting short simple passes in the middle third it seemed they seemed to be getting into the final third so both teams 40 minutes to to settle this one oh hammerline takes a shot to the back of the head and she's down talk real quick we have quite a few um athletes on the field that have garnered academic all-state honors i counted a total of 12 um for east elena dwinger hannah hammerline abby and chloe miller and katherine wolfe and for north samantha crossman helena ho kate cole house emily kleinhelter laney moore ryan stevens and lauren whitley to be considered for academic all-state you must be a junior or senior and boast a 3.7 or higher gpa kylie hatcher subbing in for hannah hammerline hatcher is another freshman for east you'll hear that name tomorrow night as her brother corbin hatcher is one of the star center backs for the olympians harris gets hatcher involved right away and she draws a foul quick ball looks to find sodell kj ely out wide klein helter klein out there looks negative finds cole house and north opens up schum plays inside to whitley finds mckinley mckinley lies back to whitley whitley diagonal ball that's going to be played by schutz little mishap but limited picks it up chananda why'd the ely starts it for north touches the laney more more inside looks like craig's gonna separate the ball from her and when that back confronted by a north triple team ball bounces out to nadia harris harris saken dwinger like to see dwinger sodell be a little bit more dynamic and see if they can really disorganize the east the north back line um dwinger cole house and shum right there did a really good job of dropping spurgeon confronted by mckinley holder off alexis spurgeon sophomore gilly comes out puts it in the next third lang controls for north looks long craig's there plays back inside more more nice turn inside looks to bring more players involved back to the right side cross deflected by craig that's probably going to be a north corner whitley to take the corner for north uh-oh ball backside shoe regains finds whitley wide whitley diagonal ball in picked up by wolf wolf to harris harris back to wolf the ball's gonna go out of play for a north throw craig stands up more more down the down the sideline craig pokes it out for another north throw to her left connects back to stevens stevens retains possession through shananda shananda settles out to shum shroom eyes up decent little passage of play but it's going to go out for a nor east goal kick it's like hammer lines checked out okay gonna come back in for kylie hatcher glad to see that she's okay interesting um family dynamics here at the match we've got four families were um involved in the game um including probably the most interesting uh the dwinger sisters nora who stepped off seconds are after the opening kickoff injured hopefully she's okay her and her sister elena are not only um a pair of olympian sisters such as abby and chloe miller but they're also going to be battling against their sister emma a former east player and number two on the east scoring list who is a assistant coach for north we also have um some coaching uh more coaching family members uh dave young the the head coach for north he is assisted by his son ej young who is back from college because of covet 19 and he is serving as the jv coach for north lauren whitley her father dane whitley is also on the north staff dane who was one of if not the first the uh mr soccer in indiana so a lot of family ties going on in this game plenty of siblings um i believe um ruth fetterly had a sister that played in this game last year it's always neat to see the younger siblings involved um following footsteps of older siblings or i believe in the case of nadia harris um falling in the footsteps of a mom whose mom emily was a soccer player i believe at columbus east so it's got to be proud moment for her more in the box sets back to lang lang dummy inside left foot deflected by spurgeon mckinley knocked down by schutz no no call there probably not a foul can we get more groups pressing as dwenger and sodell go we've got to get harris we've got to get wolf we've got to get spurgeon higher and join them connect the game good touch by dwinger has a shot from about 35 40 out spins into gilly's hands gilly out wide to shoe out to more awkward bounce more does well with it craig competes a little shove in the back that's coming back for an east kick hammer line on the ball regained by miller miller works inside shum clears we're gonna have a free kick outside the area for east dangerous area looks like abby miller will be on the free kick north is getting organized hannah hammerline looks like she's going to join the mix this is a big moment for the olympians see if they can capitalize on this and get back into this ball right at gilly gilly plays out to shoe good east is involved a little bit higher well done by craig intercepts plays the wolf wolf looking wide to dwinger that's going to be picked off by kj ely cleared out lauren barker rejoins the contest coming in for laney moore and claire livers will take off emily kleinhelter livers has one assist this evening assisting kj ely on her brace um as the game stands jenna lang's 14th goal is the difference and would be considered the game winner so far lange has 14 goals in what would be her fifth game currently she is third on the north all-time list and last match she scored a tied a north record with six goals which were all in the first half against franklin um elena dwenger is currently sixth on the list um for east all-time goals and um she's got her sister right in her sights i believe she needs four more to take over fifth place and quite a few more to catch her sister but i think that she's going to have a shot to do it with the remainder of the season livers inside the lang lang touching the box touches by spurgeon back to her right foot inside hopeful ball in oh just timing just off ball back in by whitley couldn't be controlled by barker sub ruth fetterly a freshman is going to come in and swap spots for nadia harris another freshman liver's your gains miller confronted by ely spurgeon out to catwolf fun fact about alexis spurgeon she is known quite famously as the glow bear don't really know what that's all about but i believe she just brings sunshine and joy to everyone she meets and that's why she's nicknamed glow bear looks like we're gonna come out with a north free kick spurgeon suffered a injury last year so she's been rehabbing um most of the 2019 and 2020 year and it's glad to see that she's back and providing some leadership and some quality to the east back line millery starts to play looking for federally i'm really impressed with the energy that some of these younger players from east are bringing ruth federer is very busy nadia harris is very busy kylie hatcher had some good minutes and then we talk about the sophomore class with allison craig she's just done a wonderful job tonight and her 1v1 battles um you know the future for east with some of these young players um is bright unfortunately one of those young players would hopeful to see tonight nor dwenger she left early with an injury we hope that she checks out okay barker with craig barker inside to lang lang dummy turn inside puts on our left gonna give it out to livers liver settles with her left takes a shot right out limata pretty good passage of play for the girls in blue well done by the east keeper federally looking for options plays back into wolf unlucky lang picks it back up finds barker barker works inside mckinley crossing run diagonal barker back out to the right shum finds barker barker's surrounded by three olympians looks like federally comes out with it federally looking for sodell intercepted by coal house ball in that's going to be controlled by limitation dwinger turns outside good tussle by nithya chananda oh east regains possession ball inside sodell is going to pick up craig joins the play sodell finds wolf wide wolf isolated with whitley drives the ball into the box well done by chananda picked up by chloe miller um hopeful chance that we'll go out for a north goal kick so tonight the ladies play and tomorrow night we will have the boys kicking off um a couple of coaches um not necessarily rookies but making their first i guessed debuts um andy glover comes out of retirement to take the north boys and josh gunter who is also coached at hauser he takes over for brad barber at east who's retired and that's a shot by mckinley that's gonna find the back of the net to make this game three oh bulldogs talk about a great pickup for columbus north to have alexa mckinley step in provide that type of finishing ability and athleticism off of your bench that is incredible depth for the attacking players of north with 20 minutes remaining columbus north has a 3-0 lead over columbus east federally looks inside too looks like burkemeyer berkmeyer confronted by schum schum controls and carries forward well done by gabby schutz schutz pogsta harris harris dispossessed by jenna lang lang step over back inside looking along the livers ball over the top it's gonna be a foot race between spurgeon and livers looks like livers is gonna get there north crowd getting into it a little bit more ealy dispossessed by chloe miller harris to abby miller abby faints inside goes outside into harris harris looking forward twinger good battle between dwinger and shananda a couple of all-state honorable mention selections a year ago have to think that they can improve upon that team status this season lang out to barker barker confronted by craig barker pull back inside craig polk to harris east regains burke meyer does well oh shoot him a little little shorts pull nobody's everybody saw that riley you're getting called back and the ref threatens with a booking handler him line on the ball intercepted by lange winger pull back inside looks to connect inside great touch by miller ball back in the middle oh well done both sides good looking opportunity and it looks like harris is going to draw a free kick towards the top of the box great ball in slicing negative pull back into the box for a slashing burke meyer only to be stopped by a couple of bulldogs and mallory gilly but looks like naughty hair is tripped up she's gonna give east a free kick towards top of the box and the ref's gonna move it up we're looking about 22 23 yards outside looks like sophomore sydney berkmeyer on the ball for east 17 minutes remaining in the match north holds a 3-0 lead berkmeyer right at gilly takes a bounce catches the rebound despite dewinger there to put it back in shoom craig and barker well held up by barker looks to bring in lang lang doesn't fool shuts that time great tackle dwinger it's going to be cleared by chananda and whitley puts it in the next third shoots controls in the middle midfield carries out towards the right side gabby shoots down the right side puts across into the box cleared by whitley gabby schutz um one of the nicest kids you'll ever meet fierce competitor has improved tremendously and coach schwartzman has to really like her development that she's had over the course of the last few years it's like going to have a dangerous free kick four east in their final third looks like abby miller will be on this abby miller good last few minutes of play diagonal ball back into the box created a great goal scoring opportunity draws a free kick here let's see if she can put east on the board with a great service ball towards the back post shananda on her back federally ball in and federally finds the back of the net three two one east is on the board ruth fetterly scoring her first career goal and no better time to do so good ball in by miller despite shananda doing a great job defending mill federally there to put home the rebound three to one of 14 minutes and 55 seconds remaining let's see if east can gather some of that momentum and and string some more opportunities together looks like sam crossman into the game for the first time she's playing as a left wing she and she earns a corner for the bulldogs samantha crossman very intelligent kid very intelligent player comes in and makes an immediate impact winning a corner for north whitley whitley 21 assists in 2019 believe it tied a school record it was an all-conference selection puts a ball into the box won by the glow bear miller looks to connect with winger ely sniffs it out ely looks to switch play through barker barker in the half space may have got away with a handle touches the ball to the outside her and craig battle we've seen all night barker ball back in looking for lang lang's going to settle on the edge of the box cuts back doesn't fool shuts but the refs gonna give a free kick to north not certain about that but i do not have the best seat in the house north free kick looks like lang's gonna set up on this um it's like east is putting players on the post coach is asking them to the north coaching staff is asking him to crowd the keeper so it looks like east is going to defend this quite like they defend their corner kicks which is a hybrid system so in a hybrid system that means they use a man marking technique and they also use a zonal technique so the zonal players will defend the posts and help out the goalkeeper with usually one or two other players defending in central areas as free ball winners with the rest of the players man marking individually defending other attacking players looks like a east throw in allison craig will take it nicest kid in the world just thanked the ball kid in the middle of the game manners do not go out of style with allison craig ball diagonal inside looking for miller federally she's busy regains another one but it's going to come out to sam crossman crossman inside to lang lang looking to combine with mckinley chased by spurgeon spurgeon pokes away it looks like mckinley is going to gain a throw for north um great evening great weather this evening out at david greenfield richard white soccer complex um one of the things that i've always appreciated about games under the lights out here is the atmosphere and the character that it brings we've got guys sitting on couches we got rowdy students and the intimate atmosphere um it will be bittersweet when games move over to the sparkling bcsc complex they're state of the art turf and lockers hopefully they still let the couches in though hammer line settles hammer line long ball finds miller miller settles pressed by stevens miller to the spurgeon spurgeon plays long looking for dwingrit oh bounces through finds dwinger dwinger long ball to berkmeyer gilly playing off of her line picks up the roller gilly debates playing short pumps it long craig over barker in the federally federally intercepted by chenonda a little pinball right now schum's gonna regain for bulldog deflected off of berkmeyer for a north road deep in their own half we spoke early about the barker craig battle and i can say that i've been impressed with both of them i'd say it's been a pretty even split between the wins for craig and the wins for barker looking forward to watching that over the next few years and we may be seeing this in the sectional um later in october um the draw for the sectional will be later i'm not exactly sure of the date but it's odds are high that when east and north are in it and after a couple wins they're likely going to meet in a semifinal or final round game it's like a free kick for east hammerline is going to take it north sets a two-man wall hammer line drives the ball in one by cole house crossman federally it's gonna be picked up by gilly eight minutes and some change 3-1 lead for columbus north gilley puts it back into the play and in the middle spurgeon holds off mckinley finds federally federally couple touches out wide to craig allison craig connects with burkmeyer overlaps good tracking by barker to regain it and give a throw for east at midfield craig into federally federally looking for burke meyer ball pops out to mckinley shuts to miller miller picked up by federally federally to harris won by barker barker clears east will regain possession globe out to craig pressed by mckinley craig does well looks to himmer line hammerline long switch looking for dwanger misplayed by ely chenonda is there to cover it up barker to whitley lilly deflected for about 60 yards by federally and it's going to end up on the foot of jenna lange deep throw and we're going to have claire livers and laney moore regain and re-enter the game for crossman and mckinley so been really impressed this second half by abby miller senior for columbus east um done very well with their decisions on the ball it's created a couple chances for east has proven her worth as a playmaker with his drawing the free kick having an opportunity cleared off the goal line getting east back into this harris touches around whitley whitley fouls and east will take the free kick miller quick start looking for harris shananda does well there you are not going to find many kids that are as athletic as nithya chananda the center back for columbus north phenomenal athlete it's been a three year starter for them and i don't know who that kid is over there but he has a megaphone for a voice holy smokes kid is blessed shananda a all-state honorable mention selection last year has been a day one starter since her since she steps into the program at columbus north does a phenomenal job coupled with kate hulk coal house back there that pair has been around for a couple years and there's a reason that not many people score goals on north because of those two riley schum also joins that back line and kj ely with substitutioning switching with claire livers kind of holds down that left side a pretty strong back line for north livers finds it to lang wang wants somebody to play with finds laney moore laney into barker barker to stevens stevens pulls back finds lange intercepted by spurgeon federly turns find miller we've got space let's play ball right down the middle for dwinger dwinger winger and gilly are going to get there oh gilly gets there first well played by gilly good movement by dwinger great ball by miller clearance from chennai is going to find lang confronted by schutz whitley inside lauren whitley's done a very good job when she's been able to take two touches and connect something diagonal she's been able to get things going for north reason she had 21 assists in 2019 great vision good ball striking and able to put some texture on passes to help those front runners up north barker running in the back line against hammerline diagonal to the right side tries to cut back gonna go out for a goal kick about three minutes and 15 seconds left in the match we've got a 3-1 lead for the bulldogs hammerline back in intercepted by lang to barker barker connects with livers livers with space takes a prep touch and she's going to beat limata over the top for a the fourth goal of the night livers with a goal and an assist tonight two minutes and 58 seconds all but seals it for north so upcoming for the olympians they are going to go on the road next tuesday to madison to play a hoosier ho hoosier hills conference foe in the cubs uh madison a recently renovated athletic complex and i believe the olympians will be one of the first teams to get to play on the new turf down in the river city kickoff is 7pm on tuesday if anyone wants to make the trip down north is going to be playing a another hoosier hills conference team though they will be playing floyd central at home on saturday here on david green field at richard weiss soccer complex at 12 30.

late catherine hodgston here rich gianelli kathy molinero here al russo here amy spelina all right so that's uh nine present and one on the way thank you uh go down to the next uh agenda item cake and read the uh messenger kobe message that we used to do at every meeting please sure due to the unique nature of the covid19 crisis and the limitations of technology members of the public who are danbury residents are invited to send brief comments and questions via email in advance to dps underscore public comment underscore boe at danbury dot k12 dot ct dot us okay thank you kate uh sandy do you want to go over and start with our comments now before we start into our meeting sure sounds good uh first comment is from dane reese phd as a phd educator at danbury high school with over 30 years of classroom and administrative experience i hope you'll find my comments regarding the reopening of schools to be of value no one can deny the importance of young people of learning face to face in a stimulating environment i found online learning to be supremely challenging and immense workload and less effective and engaging than than i would like however it is a near statistical certainty that if students in schools are open in person even in a hybrid model one or more students family members staff or their family members will die the impact of a death in a family whether of a child a parent or a spouse is devastating and irrevocable imagine being the person whose decision results in such a horror we may all be spared this calamity if we just bite the bullet and endure one semester using the fully online delivery platforms that we already have in place having spent three and a half months developing the systems and training the students parents staff and administration in their use that would be the wiser safer more compassionate and more human course of action candace fair i wanted to know if there were any plans to require staff and children to submit a negative covid19 test within three days prior to allowing them to enter school buildings if not could that be considered given the increase in cases in danbury barbara webber as a retired teacher and interested grandparent i would suggest that the district have a series of training videos for those who will support students for distance learning it should include basic digital training to access the lessons it should include intros to all sites that are used there should be perhaps separate workshops for primary intermediate and middle school they could either be on youtube or zoom total distance learning means all hands on deck the intro training needs to start with the assumption that the participant knows nothing about distance learning perhaps there could be initial training in zoom sessions and then those who were trained could then offer training sessions to others in english spanish portuguese etc kim mcgrath for the students that chose distance learning during the survey will they be automatically moved back into virtual classes within their respective schools if not is there a way to request this change christine fournier when will we get a better picture of the plan for elementary school's day how much life teaching will happen throughout the day will kids who selected full distance learning before the district chose to open full distance learning still get assigned to a virtual classroom or will they be assigned to a teacher in their building daniela nero how will this be different from the end of last year's distance learning will the kids have a certain schedule of classes and daily expectations will the classes be taught live by their actual school teachers will there be one-on-one meetings with their teachers on a weekly basis are they going to be in actual live classes over zoom or google are you going to follow a regular curriculum or modify i have a daughter going into sixth grade and another going into third grade and i'm extremely disappointed and concerned with this decision because the end of last year was extremely disappointing as far as distance learning went helen marie quinn how is the district going to handle sped kids on ieps how will all of their services be handled and covered tracy rita what are the ages we can sign up for distance learning child care is this being offered for free to parents who would like their child to be with others while doing distance learning sarah cohen the availability of chromebooks for all students who do not have adequate devices or how to go about obtaining one hasn't been mentioned in a while and is now more crucial than ever since the decision of moving to an all-distance learning model will they be supplied and if so when also does the district have any plans to compensate families that aren't eligible for government assistance programs for all the extra internet and energy use required for distance learning i am working from home and require the internet with my son needing his own connection now as well we will have to purchase a more expensive plan for faster service just to be able to keep up working families are enduring more hardships now more than ever and we are already paying for public education for our taxes we can't afford to upgrade our service will we keep having to foot the bill for our children to receive this new form of public education our two-income household will likely have to become a one-income household due to distance learning we can't bear these extra costs as well our energy bill was six percent higher during the distance learning months in the spring you can't expect families to fund all of these decisions that they aren't given a voice in you're setting us up for failure michelle de morrow since parents lives are changing on a dime and working parents are struggling to find child care is that the expectation of the teachers as well teachers should be required to sign in for a full workday with without distractions teaching is a job and their own children shouldn't be at work with them they should need to find childcare on a dimes notice like the rest of us working parents anna valenti will students in elementary school have an actual assigned teacher from their school will students be seeing and getting instruction live from their teacher on assigned in-person days or is the format changing if this becomes a sign task like in the spring i'm not sure my son will learn much how will he be taught my husband and i do not have degrees in teaching and as much as we want to help we are limited in teaching a nine-year-old what support is there not only for students but for parents to better assist their children our students expected to be on the computer from 8 a.m to 3 p.m monday through friday or will they be able to do some work on the weekends chantel kokat we have opted for full distance learning for our fifth grader and understand the massive effort that was required for planning the hybrid model however there has been very little to no information communicated on what the full distance learning will look like what i heard was there would be a dps teacher assigned and there would be live instruction now that we are all in full distance learning my questions are will my son be assigned a teacher from his school or still any teacher from the district is edgenuity still the platform for distance learning if october determines those who will who originally opted for hybrid to go back to that model how will this affect those opting still opting for full distance learning if their assigned teacher is also teaching in class students what more can you share about what live instruction looks like is it interactive or are all students muted for full distance learning what is the approximate teacher to student ratio how do full distance learning students get matriculated back to the classroom theresa gibberson can you please address child care options frequency tuition etc additionally doesn't pembroke meet the requirements of less than 16 per class can you please revisit by school i worry about the kindergarten students my son can barely write his name and recognize letters distance learning will be impossible for them what's the plan he is shy and i can't see him interacting virtual by virtually by any means will there be a virtual meet the teacher will the school year pick up where last year left off i know my daughter missed half of her first grade class will second grade pick up where they left off wendy mccabe i believe wholeheartedly that with proper guidance we can still do in-school learning simple steps like have all kids tested before before school starts check temperatures daily wear masks sanitize as soon as they walk in the building have sanitizing stations set up in classrooms yes it will be a more a bit more of an effort but these kids need to be in school they need to interact with their peers and teachers there is more to learning than just sitting in front of a computer jacqueline glenn thank you all for all the work that you have done during these difficult times we have two children in elementary school as a parent who will have to work from home during distance learning are you able to provide a schedule or outline of what a day of distance learning will look like how many hours during the day will our children be on the computer how many hours will be spent learning from a teacher kristin sawmill what about the social and emotional well-being of our children on your district surveys didn't the majority of parents state that they wanted their children to return to school in person in some capacity isn't it hypocritical to say it's safe for people to send their children to these full-day daycare programs but not send them to in-person school specifically what is the distance learning program going to look like for elementary school students is it really good for them to be in front of a screen for hours each day k mackie this was the email address that i received no name when danbury schools were originally using the hybrid plan for those that chose all distance learning it was mentioned that the children will have a designated distance learning teacher from the district it was not guaranteed that they'd have a teacher from their own school now that danbury is doing all distance learning does this change the teacher assignments will my child now have a teacher from her school carol corcoran i am a single mom of two kids a senior who just graduated dhs and an incoming junior at dhs i want to express my disagreement with the decisions being made lately to coven 19.

so when we say we can get 17 to possibly 20 students in a classroom if it's 17 students they can be six feet apart and not wear masks in class right now if it's more than 17 kids we'll have to squeeze in a few more kids they won't be six feet apart and they will have to wear masks so that's huge for us because we know that it will be difficult to have students wear a mask the entire time so what i what we would do also first steps is teacher one would contact those 18 parents and say if we start on september 8th or that week are you truly ready to send your child to school or would you keep them home till the end of the semester so some of the numbers may fluctuate a little bit um it could happen where enough parents say they're going to keep their kids home and we have 17 kids in the class and nobody has to wear a mess or it could be where we say here's the number you know we're at 20 or like i mean second grade you won't even look at because that's a whole other problem but if we look at like 22 kids and we say there's 22 kids in the classroom kids will have to wear masks or you're going to have some parents who will say well absolutely not i am not sending my kids to school that number would lower and we would end up with 17 kids who wouldn't wear masks and then the parents would be upset because they'll say what you said they were going to have to wear masks so i think it's we're going to have to be very careful how we message that to our parents and what the numbers look like so you'll see second grade we did get seven news second graders this year because the numbers in second grade in first grade last year were not this high um so again we would call those when i talked to the teachers they said there may be one or two of the second grade parents who would not want to send their kids to school right now in september that we could move to the digital teacher but i don't anticipate that we would have 14 kids they know we want to go to digital classroom so we would have to figure out that model for second grade will have to look a little bit different so for governing board elections update to shift gears we will have three open seats for our governing board elections that will take office january 2021 election day is november 3rd 2020.

i am concerned that some of the sanitizing precautions such as fogging rooms will have a negative impact on my breathing issues 5. i am concerned that students flows at the secondary level have not been addressed nor has the number of students on campus been limited massive bottlenecks of students and hallways are likely during passing periods and that is unacceptable to me six we were told that we were still waiting on back ordered ppe and that is too much to gamble with the need to properly sanitize seven we were told we would follow a regular schedule which will do do little to minimize congestion in the hallways in the classrooms eight it feels rushed we should at least look at a two to three week data from queen creek high school before making decisions to meet face to face after two to three weeks of face-to-face interaction then we will know for sure if their model is protecting students and staff why should we do another experiment when we clearly have imminent data from a neighboring district without risking our own staff or students nine some classrooms are furnished with tables and not desks and yet no provisions in the plan addresses how to separate students appropriately for their safety during instructional periods 10.
