it's a michael kristoff and that second one is a big one because it puts the mustangs in the red zone it was a 43 yard reception by luke cenary iform man emotion under center play action pass the rolls right has time looking looking looking throwing batted up in the air and incomplete third and seven yards for the mustangs the mustangs have very good field position right now but it's hard to capitalize when you're in the red zone but let's see if the mustangs can do so they did it before with jacob maldonado so don't be surprised if he gets the handoff here folks the huddle breaks one receiver right my formation once again bellis under center takes the snap hands it off to maldonado and he is stuffed almost immediately and he loses a yard it'll be fourth down in eight and it looks like they'll bring out the kicking team [Music] foreign it's about a 23-yard field goal snap is taken the kick is up waiting on a signal it is good and the mustangs have a two-score league ten-nothing [Music] three minutes and 20 seconds left to go in the first quarter mustangs very early on have a ten nothing lead ladies [Music] that was a big field goal by kicker christopolous here we go the mustangs are set to kick off and the kick is up and it's a bit of another squib it's bobble and it's picked up by the 27-yard line by east side and the man breaks the tackle get past the 40 gets past midfield [Music] out of bounds at about the 43-yard line there is a flag on the field i believe [Music] that return was by number 15 jonathan gonzalez [Music] [Applause] [Music] it is a grabbing of the face mask against clifton [Music] and they just get better field position off that that is not good for the mustangs paul is spotted at the 39 yard line and now comes the offense for east side two receivers left two right one man in the backfield why mere reed at quarterback man in motion reed takes the snap has some time throwing left and it's caught and he'll be brought down at the 23-yard line [Music] that was a catch by number eight jair stewart [Music] [Applause] see receivers right one left two men in the backfield reed [Applause] takes the snap handoff goes to number seven amir smith [Music] and the ball will be taken to about the 20-yard line which will set up second and six [Music] oh has broken two receivers left to right reed takes the snap handoff goes to amir smith i believe who gets the first down and more [Music] first and ten for the ghosts on the ten two receivers left one right [Music] reed [Music] and he has stopped in his tracks about maybe a one-yard gain by number three albert canty [Music] two men right one left one man in the backfield that'll be number three albert canty raid calling an audible [Music] clifton showing blitz he takes the snap he looks left he throws left and it's incomplete third down and eight 44 seconds left to go in the first quarter [Music] here we go third and eight ball on the nine yard line one receiver left two right reed man emotion that would be number one that's in jacobs reed takes a snap doesn't have a lot of time he's looking back at the end zone and it goes out of the back of the end zone and it'll be fourth down in a and it looks like they'll bring out the kicking team and they do 39.2 seconds left to go in the first quarter [Music] about a 25-yard field goal [Music] kick is up and it is almost blocked but up and through [Applause] 10-3 mustangs and there was a penalty on the play it was a roughing the kicker on the mustangs [Music] it looks like the penalty has been declined [Music] i'm my mistake ladies and gentlemen eastside did accept that penalty it will be first and goal on clifton's five yard line so it is still ten nothing but they have an opportunity to score a touchdown [Music] reed takes the snap hands off and it is stopped maybe after a gain of one [Applause] [Music] and it'll be second down and go hand off with albert canty number three [Music] clock winds down 12 seconds left nine seconds and counting five seconds of counting [Music] and they're just gonna let it run down there is no time left in the first quarter ladies and gentlemen and it is zero east side and your clifton mustangs tang will be back after a short intermission [Music] so [Music] here we go ladies and gentlemen the whistle is blown two people in the backfield one person one receiver right one left reed takes the snap hands it off to canty on outside hands off and he is it's definitely close and it looks like he's gonna be short on about the one inch line [Music] third and goal for east side [Music] he gets the hand off and he's in touchdown east side albert canty and east side is still down 10-6 but it would have been 10-3 if it wasn't for a penalty and their kicker will come out to kick the extra point and possibly make it a 10-7 lead or 10 to 7 deficit [Music] and the snap is taken the kick is open it is blocked and it is still a 10-6 lead for the mustangs what a great great block by the mustang special teams i believe that is the second extra point block this season by the mustang special teams [Music] and the mustangs will receive the ball [Music] as both sides of the special teams are coming out i just want to thank all of you who have tuned into the stream hopefully you guys stay for the whole game it's going to be a good one ladies and gentlemen [Music] [Applause] mustangs are ready back to receive number one lucinary and number fourteen kayla bonaporte back to receive and the kick is up and it will take a bounce at the 31 but will be touched and picked up by luke cenary who makes a nice move past the 30 35 40 45 past midfield past 45 40.

been a very lengthy drive for the mustangs after a huge defensive stop the east side had to open up for the second half if the mustangs pick it up here they can extend this drive and even possibly put up a touchdown or a field goal ladies and gentlemen a field goal will make it a seven point lead and a touchdown would make it a touchdown an extra point would make it an 11 point lead wow [Music] it mandy can you take roll call brown yes johnson yes killenberger yes nolan yes yes rape yes gorman yes here now we need a motion second to approve the agenda for this evening hey brown yes johnson yes helen berger yes nolan yes pennar yes raid yes gorman yes please join us to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one ancient undertaking indivisible with liberty and justice for all all right thanks everyone who came out and everyone who's viewing in the comfort of their home too um dr stern any visitors i would like to thank um steve diversity and dan polloway for being with us tonight from the administration and uh for mike schmidt who are going to recognize also we have our auditing firm here and we have um our president of the ca vice president ca happy to announce that earlier today that the cea ratified the the two-year agreement that the board will act on later in the meeting so congratulations there's no public comment so we'll move on to mr mike smith all right we're here to recognize a distinguished honor for one of our coaches who's been a lifer in 301 and that's uh mike schmidt on september 13th it was a sunday afternoon i got a phone call saying from jim akins hey give me a call as soon as you can that's never a great feeling when you get it at three o'clock on a sunday and i call them up and he goes i have great news for you he goes mike was just inducted into the hall of fame or voted to be inducted in 2021 i'm like wow that's fantastic so we were kind of sitting on this mike found out that day and we were waiting for all the press and everything to come out but a little bit about the illinois high school cross country and track association there was 40 coaches nominated on only six pick this year and you guys saw in there the little bio that they put in there about mike and his lineage here in 301 not only as an athlete but as a coach but one thing that didn't make it in there which makes us pretty special to work with a coach like mike is over the past six years with his fundraisers he donates so much back to the community in a range of over twenty thousand dollars to our families and that's what makes mike such a special coach and we're lucky to have him on our staff so on behalf of the board the administration we wanted to get you a little bit of an early induction plant because you're going to get yours in january if they have it at the banquet but on behalf of all of us congratulations and thank you for all the hard work uh thank you i really appreciate it um yeah looking back this is my 31st year i'll be coaching track and i ran track at central uh before that but just a little bit more about uh what we do is um it started with trying to find something to motivate our kids to think of something bigger than just track we wanted to get them to strive for excellence but also to learn how to give back to their community and for the less fortunate and it started with a young boy who had brain cancer in huntley actually about seven years ago and then i decided um you know we need to look around in our own community and see if we can find a family in need and the buck holds family i think everybody's aware of uh we basically for four or five years raised money for their family for their child riley who suffered and eventually passed from brain cancer and made him a part of our team for a long time and had him come out to a special day you know and have him in his wheelchair kind of interact with the boys and run relay races and things like that as best he could and then the last two years we've had another special situation in 301 where we had a track athlete in the middle school evan milbrant who was paralyzed and he's the same class as my son they ran together in middle school and it's a great family and also a family in need so we've kind of adopted them over the past couple of years and like i said when you know when you establish a culture of of a track program and of winning to really motivate your athletes you need something bigger and when they see that there are uh kids out there that are less fortunate than them um you know it's it's running so it's usually never a big crowd there or anything but but we can put those kids in our hearts and really help motivate our kids to go above and beyond is really helped take our program to the next level but also for our kids to have these wonderful life lessons to give back to their community and to the less fortunate so i'm very proud of that and um like i said before in the in the paper when they interviewed me that this is really a program award in basketball and some other sports the head coach really has a ton of control but track is one of those sports where you need really good assistance and uh if there's if there's one kind of good quality i think i have it is picking good people to uh be around me and uh help make my program that much better and i've got some just phenomenal assistants including jim atkins who's also in the hall of fame and john pollock my distance coach who was recognized as the assistant coach of the year in illinois track two years ago so very fortunate to have the people i do and it's a program award but also award for uh central high school and our track program so i appreciate it thank you so much for the recognition it's not why we do it but at the end of the you get towards the end of your career it's kind of a nice thing so thank you very much congratulations all right sheridan jurgensen is here with edward casella and company to present the audit well good evening my name is sheridan i'm one of the uh partners at eder cassell and company um so i just wanted to spend a few minutes and go over the results of the audit this year uh just to start off a few things that we're kind of required to tell you that's in some of the documentation you have but there was no deficiencies so we had no issues as far as internal controls or any of the processes that are done through the business office we spent a lot of time testing that making sure that that um not only people following policies and procedures but making sure actually sitting with them and making sure that that's being done and so uh we had no issues with that uh dana and her staff just did a great job this year with the audit just having everything ready for us and getting all of our questions answered there's a lot of them and i'm sure she's glad when we're gone so um there's also no uncorrected misstatements so anything that we found that we felt needed to be corrected which there was nothing material or anything really significant that i would point out but if there was anything that we found we did correct it so there's nothing that's been uncorrected after the audit and then there was also no new accounting standards that took effect this year so kind of the audit report that you're seeing is very consistent as it has been in the past there was supposed to be a new standard everything got kind of pushed back with covid so their standard that would have brought all of your activity funds into the education fund is postponed until next year so you'll see that starting next year so as far as the audit report the first thing in the audit report is our opinion and that's kind of what you pay us to do it is a adverse opinion which according to accounting standards just means that the report is not up to accounting standards however in the state of illinois they allow you to report on a regulatory basis of accounting which again is in accounting standards but is allowed in illinois and so you have an adverse opinion so just so it's a clean opinion based on regulatory um but they're just saying it's not up to accounting standards i would say probably still there's probably about 50 percent of districts in illinois that do report this way so it's not unusual a lot of it i think depends on your location north shore chicago area seems to have gone more what's called gas b34 full accrual which is fully up to standards out here and downstate is typically just regulatory so a couple things i wanted to point out on the financial statements on page six you will see the balance sheet which shows your assets liabilities and fund balance for each of the funds one of the things we look at is your cash reserves on hand at the end of the year and we always recommend you have a minimum of three months and then once you get to the other side once you start to get over 20 24 months that's when you start and start to see tax objections so your education fund was about at six months operations and maintenance was at 10.

transportation was at 13 and imrf was at 12. and so you're right in that range i will say there is kind of one caveat to that is since we're reporting as of june 30th it does include all of your early tax money so those numbers are a little bit inflated so if you were to take those out those would be lower so um just figured i'd point that out and on that page too on the bottom you can see under fund balance there's the designated line those are your early tax money so you can kind of see what it would be without having those in there so we're about seven million ahead than what we should be so yeah so your fund balance is about seven million seven point four million if you exclude the property taxes okay because that's the early taxes okay yeah then on page eight this shows oh 14 is the early tax so we're above about seven million so seven million would be the true fund balance without correct on page eight is shows the revenues and expenses for each fund and you can see overall there was a net increase of about 186 000 for the year and you can just see the various funds and kind of how they ended up over the year uh o m did have about a 970 000 drop but i believe that was planned for and um so so that is why that is that the other thing that we're required to do is um to perform a single audit which is a test of all the financial uh federal awards that you do get and so we have to do compliance testing to make sure you're complying with all the grant requirements and we had no issues with any of those so that all came back clean as well then the final thing i just wanted to point out was we also have to submit the afr to isbe and that they calculate your financial profile it's on a scale of zero to four and this year it's a 3.9 which is in the recognition category so that's good so i will open it up if you have any questions now you mentioned the difference between the different accounting practices in the north shore and then out here what's just the top-level view what's the difference in what's the pros and benefits of each um i would say most regulatory districts the reason they do it is because cash basis tends to be very easy to understand once you start going accrual basis it's not just based on what money is coming in and what's going out it's what's due to vendors what is expected back from the state and that's what gets recorded so it's not as easy to understand there's also more significant cost associated with it going to accrual the report you would find out is about 50 page longer there's just a lot more adjustments that have to get made etc so that's the downside i guess the good side is if you did have delays in property taxes if you had delays and state monies those would be recognized even if you hadn't received them so it kind of smooths out things a little bit year to year which i think is why some districts like it better but again it's more of a preference thing so revenue recognition on that basis okay on accrual yeah so we have to record anything that has been that is due to the district as far as so anything that will be received it's normally 60 days after a year and so anything that is expected from the state within 60 days of your end is recorded as a revenue i mean essentially we're actually we're internally managing it on accrual basis anyway right i mean you know what's coming out yeah i report out how far we get behind in state payments but if if it was june 30th i would have to if we were two months behind or two quarters behind with state payments i would have to record that as revenue on to our onto our balance sheet which truly we don't physically have in our hand yeah um that was that it's just a tiny thing so basically i'd make an entry and then it would reverse out for the next year's audit and then on the other side too if you have expenses that you've already committed to pay and you've received an invoice for it just hasn't physically been paid out those would be recorded as accounts payable at the end of the year even though the cash hasn't gone out yet so those are the big elections to do that yes okay yep you just file it with the state um so okay yeah there's any reason why we should but any other questions all right thank you very much thank you all right sounds good so we're going to move on to action reports from the consent agenda so i'm watching a second record and include the consent agenda okay johnson yes helen berger yes nolan pennar yes raid yes brown foreman yes revenues and expenditures are in your board packets revenues are currently at 39.09 compared to 28.01 a year ago expenditures are at 15.80 compared to 17.32 percent a year ago district received impact fees of 114 824.67 for 24 new home starts and transition fees came in at 16 000 515.02 the bills payable reports normal for october included in there are a bunch of refunds that were owed to country trails and hbt families for some field trips that did not happen last spring and then we got through some of the senior lunch refunds and people that have moved out of district um we still have more um lunch refunds that we're working on so those will be next month and then um etta casala sheridan was here and she reported the board so tomorrow or wednesday i'll take the reports and get them all signed and deliver them to the roe and kane county tax extension any questions for dinner all right we'll move on to the audit motion in a second to discuss that and approve second are there any further questions other than thanks to dana who clearly is doing a wonderful job and making you know oughta come up clean so thank you very much we agree yeah thank you just to clarify for the o m that was negative 900 we were intentionally trying to reduce that fund balance down so that's why it was kind of right where we had anticipated a little bit more i think we were doing 600 000 so there was a little bit more of a deficit than originally but it was intended so all right mandy kellenberger yes nolan yes yes raid yes brown yes johnson that's gorman yes all right exceeding motion second to discuss and approve the donation of 600 um from the illinois foundation ffa for the state winner last summer so moved second three fundraisers and community events from uh project dance and a fan fest and then bags for events and um the donation will help continue their efforts and hosting events and activities that benefit the school and the community and hopefully we can get back to those type of those type of community events soon all right maybe all right nolan yes henry yes rabe yes brown yes johnson yes killenberger yes gorman yes next motion on secondary to discuss and improve the resolution open a new checking account old second bank second you know this was um brought up in information last month basically just seeking approval to open up a separate checking account for northern kane to keep it separated from our central 301 accounts we have a resolution and the new account forms signed and then the signers will be dr mangan dr strong and myself all right yes brown yes johnson yes helen berger yes nolan yes gorman yes the next motion second to discuss and prove the veterinarian affiliation agreements well these were in your packet last month as well for information and it's really just the affiliation agreements that we do on an annual basis now for our veterinary program so we're just asking for approval to be able to partner with these veterinary clinics there's 18 18 that are coming forward this month there may be some additional ones coming forward in the future as well and some of these look new how many new ones did we get this year compared to last year we only got three new ones those are all readings did they all resign yep no we do we have something there that have not uh resigned this year at this time they're waiting it out to kind of see where let's see what happens yeah okay as far as we know the experiences that they all have are students so far the experiences have been exceptional and partnering with our students but it's just the covet situation that has helped them off in terms of moving forward and they're from their standpoint of liability issue right uh i think it's more some of the clinics have partners that maybe have some health issues they don't want to bring additional people in so we have a multitude of reasons why they're choosing to hold off at this time yeah i've heard good feedback from the community on that that the vets have enjoyed it and kids have great amber baller and izzy castillo are doing a great job of getting all of our current vet students placed into internships so most of them are out there already working in their externship opportunities rave yes brown yes johnson yes killenberger yes nolan yes henner yes gorman yes next motion second i needed to approve the donation agreement between chroma and central 301 for the glasses again this memo came forward last month uh this is in chrome glasses for colorblind students elizabeth codd who's a teacher in our associates department had the opportunity to get these donated six pairs of glasses feel strongly that it would be something that's misrepresented within our high school students that many male students are uh blind and so this is an opportunity for them to experience color the way they should see it sorry mandy brown yes johnson yes helen berger yes nolan yes penner yes rabe yes gorman yes lastly motion and second to discuss and approve the donation of 500 from the king county farm bureau for participating leading various agricultural community events dana do you want to trust us you want me to take it um central high school ffa got another donation for 500 this time from the king county farm bureau um it kind of stemmed from mooseheart ag days the doing the booth at the king county fair and then touch a tractor day so this is an annual award that the central ffa has been given and then it just is basically going to be used for school and community events going forward good johnson yes helen berger yes nolan uh yes nr yes rabe yes brown yes gorman yes move on to information items update for the in-person remote learning status well i think we have some good news to report and dr mongan will talk a little bit about the survey that's out but we were successfully in our eighth week of on both in-person and remote learning guidance continues to change from the state in fact on october 13th on october 13th there was a change in the exclusion guidance that for the testing where they said you could not you could no longer just rely on an antigen test that you had you rely on a molecular test so the new guidance calls for an rt pct pcr test but really any type of molecular test would count that said in a conversation that i had um earlier this afternoon with pat del santo who is our regional superintendent of schools she indicated on a phone call that she had with with the state board of education that the federal government is going to be providing on the states and illinois um test molecular tests and we would receive guidance hopefully dr nzk with the state will sign the doctor's order for us to be able to use those tests in the schools we're expecting to receive our first batch of 8 000 tests in king county in the near future with more to come before the winter break so um you hear different talk if you were listening to the news at all uh it broke i believe on wgn earlier this afternoon that that dupage county uh was recommending um going fully remote we had this discussion that was part of the reason why i was talking with the regional superintendent and with the king county health department as of last friday and continuing today king county is not taking that position currently in fact barb jumpers the executive director of the king county health department confirmed on friday what we know is that um schools because of what we're doing in schools that's not where the spread is coming from spreads coming from the community and the largest jump um is not school-age children it's people in their 20s so if you saw the report that i forwarded to the board um 40 of on the cases in the month of september were people in their 20s and it's because they they want to go out people are tired of being down so we're doing very well um we do have some students and some staff out due to symptoms um and due to some positive cases but we monitor those and doing contact tracing and we don't have any evidence of any spread within our buildings at this time which is good news um we'll continue to move forward with with education and we're we're happy to continue to be in person uh to the greatest extent possible dr mogan you want to talk a little bit about the survey i just want to add that what dr stern just said means that we can't do that saliva test that we were hoping to do with the u of i uh that will not be a test that would be approved and so we'd have to go in a different direction uh that's the reason we're looking forward to maybe getting tests provided to us by the government and it was told that the molecular test um that there will not be a charge for it as well because i asked about that how does that work then who who administers it and when our nurses would would be authorized to administer the the swab right and then it would go to the lab and we would get our results and this is a this instead of people going elsewhere to get the test done right you would bring it in-house basically correct and it's these these packets are being sent to the states they're they're really designed for um first responders um health care workers and then schools both teachers and students so there is that we we send it off to the testing center right um does the response come back to us or does it go to the to to the individual the response goes to the king county health department and it would go to the individual right and we don't see that no but before before someone's cleared to return to school they have to provide evidence of either alternative diagnosis that rules alcovet uh by a healthcare phys a healthcare worker or they have to provide that that negative test result okay good question so we don't have any any privacy issues really was really my concern there we don't have what these privacy issues no there's no privacy issues because everything's above board yeah it goes to the health department through the individual okay and what would be the requirement for us to take test an individual if they have a symptom and they have any symptoms show up to school have a symptom we can make the determination they can either choose to do the test within our school system or they could choose to go to another healthcare professional whether they're not majors to just be out for the exclusionary period so there's a finite number i mean if there's eight thousand for the whole county there's how many schools in the county or how many first responders and okay so we'll end up getting two hopefully we'll get more than two yeah i'm just a sort of matter of interest i mean how many do you think would be would be likely to administer over a month i mean just is it likely to be two or is it like to be 100 based on what we know right now well based on based on our common experience that i mean yeah based on what it is what we're averaging around in the various districts because you remember if you have one symptom you have to be excluded right so you could have 150 to 160 i would say so okay to do it properly yeah okay in terms of the academic side of this hybrid elements we did do a survey out to parents and are asking them to fill a survey out by this friday giving us their choices for a semester too if we did not hear from them we will automatically put them in where they're currently existing to date we've received about 1500 responses from parents or about 34 of our student bodies have responded back of them very small numbers are shifting we only have about 76 students going from remote back into in-person learning but we have 62 they're going from in-person learning to remote so it's about a 50-50 split the the champ spread across chromosome chron's k-2 early childhood to 12th grade so the challenge will be how it impacts inside each building so we're monitoring building by building as we get closer we'll be communicating with principals we'll then communicate with staff as we look at trying to make those adjustments i think for us um the pattern right now is we're about five weeks into instruction because remember we asked for the first two or three weeks to really be about that social emotional learning and to take the time to get to know your students build that relationship so that we can get the buy-in from those students and have them help them kind of reacclimate to doing school we're in week eight so that means about five weeks in some of the things we're hearing is there are students that are failing at a higher rate than usual so we're going to have to pivot a little bit and we look at what's going on are there some interventions some things we can put in place what do we need to do for different strategies so some of our work moving ahead will also be dealing with okay how do we make sure that students are as successful as they can be what things can we put into place what protocols can we shift uh listening to the teachers to see what uh they're up against some of those challenges that they might be seeing engagement of course for those students that are remote only is always a challenge it's how do you engage them in the process even without spending that time up front when you don't get that face-to-face contact with those students it's really difficult to build that relationship that's needed for those students to really want to do the work for the teachers so how do we pivot to help our teachers kind of re-engage those students that'll be some of the work that we'll be doing maybe in ccc some subcommittees working in school improvement teams maybe site-based learning teams at the building level to see if there's some ideas out there on how to improve that but overall i think it looks at this point we only have four days left at this point it's almost a 50 50 shift which is good news i just don't know where it falls into by grade level we'll have a better report for you than export me the next director is here to give us a billion runs update hello um so last month i spoke about the issues and what we had going on at the high school with that roof we got the bids back um and we did that process through the omni us communities so we didn't have to publicly bid that uh roof coatings is something that's were part of that purchasing co-op so we're we're privileged to be able to go through that process and not have to do a public bid so we had five vendors come out and bid on that and that that came in um under budget um so we're looking at moving forward with that project to get that done so we don't have any further issues with that gym floor in the music room um so the gym floor is uh completed up to paint uh we did approve moving forward with new bleachers so new bleachers are getting installed as we speak and will be done this week like we talked about last time we used this opportunity to upgrade lighting paint the gym kind of get the gym because of this situation that allowed us an opportunity and then with not having students and athletes in there gave us an opportunity to get some needed upgrades done in there so that's going to be a great space so painting of that floor will commence next week and then in the next two weeks we should occupy that and we'll start using that again for classes um as far as staffing wise our department now is we hired a second shift uh facility supervisor so we filled that open position uh mr nick demius started a week and a half ago um to aid our our staff with supervision of our second shift custodians um he's doing a great job uh he's participated in the hls inspections which we've done over the last two weeks he has a lot of knowledge in in the custodial industry so he's going to be a great asset for our department um and then we're just down we're interviewing still for one open custodial position midday position at central middle school and then we had a second shift custodian resign to move on to another opportunity so we're in great shape we're covering all of our needed openings our staff's working hard every saturday we're continuing with disinfecting every building so besides the extra disinfectant we do during the week staff is working at every building every saturday to make sure we're keeping up on that hls inspections i mentioned we came through all of our buildings like they do annually we walk with them with the building administrators and dr stern got to meet them and and he talks very highly of our buildings our buildings look great their everything's up to up to where it's supposed to be expectations we work really hard to make sure that as they bring things to our attention we make sure we address them um so we're in really good shape there um and i think that's about it any questions about anything can you address the how you're covering the custodial staff the mid-days oh so so the the staffing so we make sure we we've allocated overtime for staff so any whether it's an absence or we have two floaters that work on the night shift and then we have a day floater so we have three full-time sub positions that are utility workers so they if they're not subbing as custodian they may be cutting grass they may be painting so we're utilizing them as well as our supervision staff will help out whenever needed if we have to help clean you know at some point for a shortage every one of our positions is covered we we don't let a position go uncovered so we're we're in in great shape this year in that that respect an hos inspection that was health life safety okay hl yeah that's our hls sorry that's our annual inspections with the regional office and we received a clean report for all of our facilities yep minor minor things that they they come across as far as you know decorations lighting you know scent things things like that but no no major no major revolution received clean reports in the past as well correct yes yeah typically i'm not saying that this was an abnormal year we we always do very well on those okay good now good to hear yep we talked in previous sessions about the whole process of sort of identifying um items that need addressing by the using the ticketing system yep are we putting some any kind of reporting system in places we can actually review review any data we can't that that all that data is logged in school do it so we can pull reports by by building by by issue or whatever we can pull those and provide those i think it would be helpful if we could sort of publish something out there or just circulate something so we can just keep an eye on it because obviously sort of claiming this is the heart of success in this in this case we also received the health life safety reports themselves that showed that we're uncomfortable correct i'm not talking about the top of the internal tickets in terms of yeah just making sure we're responding to those properly yep yep we can definitely provide that i mean it it doesn't really matter how many tickets we have this question of how we responded to it is really the issue right so and like we talked about last month we're making sure that we're utilizing that system to its fullest so that's a great communication tool with the teaching staff and building administrators so we're making sure we're putting feedback on those tickets and nick's been doing a great job with that a lot of those he's been following up with himself so he's he's very versed in that system too yeah absolutely again on the base as long as people are using it as long as that's the only place that things get done we can then actually we can sort of work the data on it and just make sure we're heading the right direction so correct other than that great thank you thank you any other questions awesome thank you thanks all right we got next quarterly for you from here yes we did so this is a quarterly form that we received and dana did set up a spreadsheet and it's already been responded to so thank you dana for taking care of that it's nice to have an element of normality isn't it at least one night on the list right all right next we just need a motion and second to journal concession and go on to executive session seven seconds got it all right helen berger yes nolan yes henner yes rabe yes brown yes johnson yes gorman yes all right we'll take a five minute break thanks for filling up thank you thank you i figured on how to create a big

so moved second motion by mr nunes a second by uh mrs amaral on the motion any further discussion g hearing none all in favor all right post motion carries unanimously thank you everyone uh next up under old business we have a superintendent's update on the hybrid phase of the return to school plan this is chapter uh chapter 4 yeah and we're coming to the conclusion for transition that's for sure so as you all know today was the first day we had a grade 8 in the high school inn so as of now errol all grades are in school from all accounts it went well you can see some of the items that this high school has put in place to make sure that kids are traversing in the right place and i just went in the ladies room and it was you know every other stall and those kinds of things so from all accounts things have been going well and a couple of things i know mr carly's continued to equip the school with some some of the things that we needed for this air filtering and all of that and if he wants to add anything that's perfectly fine a couple of things about this particular subject is that also that the commissioner has just put out that we are able to use um if we have to go remote at any time um or snow day can be used as a remote day is what i mean to say so that was good news one good thing um and i guess also along this line the capital improvement plan for october 27th uh that will be recommending 75 000 for hvac repairs so that's again part of the facility that's important for what we're undergoing right now and let's see um the virtual schooling for the all three levels we did we were able to finally hire a grade five teacher in the elementary virtual school she'll start next week that was a long long haul trying to find someone as you know we've been using some of our coaches to teach that grade level so that transition will be made next week and we did make some adjustments the middle school has been very great very very good about trying to help us with the tech program and support more kids those kids that were really struggling that handful of students so special education teacher at the middle school is offering more time they'll be using our curriculum and assessments to supplement what the kids are learning on techa so anybody that's struggling has the opportunity daily to do tutorial lessons through techa live lessons and our own teacher and aide are also offering that time so we were happy to hear that and edge annuity's been fine and that's pretty much it i have things for the other update but it was it was good we finally have everybody in oh that's yeah yeah so it's a positive sign yeah yeah we'll see what happens but day by day every day is a new day and um situations arise we we make adjustments and and deal with those particular situations whatever they are and that's what we'll do sure no that sounds wonderful thank you dr gifford mr kali any updates on transportation uh running smoothly you know today today was our first day of transporting 13 grade levels in one day so um obviously only half the kids but but it went very well today we were pleased with that it's it's an ongoing sort of developing process and you know parents i think um have different levels of comfort with sending their kids on the bus and not and that is continuing to change which is challenging for us because we have very limited capacity and for us to change it creates issues with how we're actually filling buses and um so it's it's a constant it's going to be a constant thing for at least a few weeks i think until people settle in and you know really decide whether they're comfortable or not um you know being on the bus obviously you know windows are open on the buses and and that's fine for now that's going to become more and more challenging for you know as as time goes by so um not unlike in school you know i would definitely encourage people to dress in layers um you know for the bus and in school because we are trying to still use outside air uh as much as we can so the temperature control of uh of classrooms in that case is is difficult obviously so so that's not to say that the heat is not on it's just that we're put we're pulling in more outside air right right and obviously the outside air at this time of year is getting cooler and cooler every day and although we have some nice days this week it's not going to last so you know it would definitely benefit students to be prepared for whatever temperature conditions there are in the classroom and obviously we'll have to adjust as we go and use less outside air and and um you know as we proceed through the year all right thank you very much mr kiley questions from my colleagues dr jenkins so i know this this isn't unique to us and it's not unique to this year but and it happens at the beginning of every school year and that's the issue of early school buses it's not a problem when school buses are late but when they're sometimes 10 15 minutes early is there any way we can communicate with the bus company at least in the first few weeks to if you're there 10 15 minutes before the published bus stop time to please wait because i mean i've had that happen to us like the first week of school the bus was 15 minutes early and we got up there 10 minutes early and so i would just hope that we i mean it's not any unique this year but since there's so much newness going on it's just hard sometimes yeah if i could just respond to that i think it is a bit unique this year in that we're only transporting half the kids so we're trying to cover the whole town again you know but we only have half the kids so there's not as many stops on the routes it does go quicker and until today we were not transporting even half of the kids so in the last few weeks we've been transporting just a small number of kids on each bus and although the drivers were driving their complete routes it's hard for them traffic wise to pull over and stop i mean they have a big yellow bus it causes problems with traffic when they do that but they are aware of it and we we are working through that and that was definitely bumpy the first couple of weeks especially but i saw this morning i think a [Music] a change in that now we have you know five more grade levels today so um i think that will sort of slow down things and there'll be some adjustments as i said you know there's there'll be adjustments for the next week or two until we uh you know get a get a true picture of who is actually riding and on a daily basis so then my other question is for dr gifford um i've had a few parents ask me like what is the protocol that we have in place um when someone tests positive because it is going to happen and i was just hoping that you could maybe review that a little um because people you know what do i do with my kid i mean how long do they have to stay home what's going to happen if they're home for two weeks so um i mean i do think we want to encourage people right if your kid's not well keep them home and if they're quarantining please keep them home so if we could just sort of explain what's going to happen when that situation arises um i think it would be good for parents to hear that well one thing they're going to be receiving and i'm not sure if the schools have sent them out yet but it's a handy dandy little chart which is um i think it took us three weeks and about 20 people right to review it so but if you know whether it's very similar with a close contact and i want to i'll make clear what a close contact is that is a person that's been in contact for more than 15 minutes and within six feet a person that has tested positive so i'm calling the next level of that i'm calling them second cousins because because they're not a close contact so people have to be aware of that definition but also um to your point um when we receive a notification of either someone that's been um with someone that was positive or someone that's like we have some potential um tests right now we're waiting for results that people have been with someone we've no positives yet as of this minute but um they'll be home they quarantine for 14 days and there are certain times which if you were it was two days before if you were with a person with so those kinds of things but what we do is as soon as we receive notification we've on our flow chart um obviously the board of health is notified um we either tell the student obviously the parent would say my child's sick i'm not sending them in or are they having a test they know to stay home for the two weeks um the new guidance also says that if you were even if you were um tested negative and you were close contact there now you have to still stay out for the quarantine so those are the two weak things um you might know there's one that we hope we don't see is if it's in someone in the same household it can be up to 25 days and it's like those kinds of things but the board of health with our assistants will do the contact tracing so we we don't have to do that piece we help with the schools you know who what a team the kid might have been on or a bus or a classroom etc so i think this because there are some specific scenarios also in the guidance of what if they were symptomatic at home or what if they were symptomatic and became ill at school kinds of things but our nurses are siding on the side of caution and sending kids home you've seen the list of symptoms and um parents have been very good about calling in and sending kids in for tests so um as far as what we're doing when students have to be home we've discussed with the dlt and right now the schools are working that out within the school itself with the teachers for example the teachers like the middle school for example gave me their plan it's maintaining their google classroom they'll have access to during advisory periods those kinds of things and they can log in and out but even if it was the two weeks it's really five days of actual instruction so each school is working that out within the school itself um the coaches would be for example at the middle school said they would then reach out to the students as well and make sure that they're kept on track for those two weeks if if it happens to be that so that's it but i think um if parents haven't received this they will receive this i think it's very helpful it's better than that 25 page guidance that people have to sift through and and as we've said before each situation matter of fact we um we started what we're going to try to maintain a weekly check-in call with the board of health and we did our first one this morning whether we need it or not kind of thing so we'll be on mondays and whether it's a five minute or half an hour and our lead nurse obviously is there usually it will be mr kylie myself laurie jodwin who supervises the nurses and then we thought each week we would invite a different nurse from one of the other buildings so that if there's issues or just so everybody's on the same um so we started that today other than the other three calls i also had with mr mishu so um but that's what i want people to know that you know it's the guidance we're following we're in close contact with the other folks and um they certainly can get specific answers about their child from their health care provider or the school nurse um so i hope that that's helpful thank you mr nunes yeah thank you mr chairman uh for you to mr kylie quick question uh with the transportation ad how full are the buses right now i mean you can put 20 or 25 uh we getting close to that or some are some aren't the most that we have scheduled on any bus right now is 22.
⚗ AI-reconstructed · cite from original above
we actually attempted to hold it to 21 um and on a couple of runs we really it just didn't make sense to do anything but because of the locations to do anything different but 22 which is well within we can actually fit 25 but we wanted to have space on the bus available in the case of a student not feeling well we want to be able to take that student and make sure that they are more than six feet away from anyone else so in limiting that capacity we're able to do that uh i it's it's hard to judge today was the first day that we had our full complement of of kids um so it'll be interesting to see so far i've not seen 22 21 or even 20 on any bus um so though we designed our routes taking into account our survey results and then our back-to-school gateway information that we got from parents we had about 800 students who we got we did not receive any information for so parents didn't respond so we included them on the bus because you know we we need to plan ahead this is not a situation where we can throw an extra few kids on a bus like in years past so those students are assigned to a bus they may or may not be taking the bus and then we found some students like today a young lady came up to me at the high school and said i wasn't on the i wasn't on the bus list and sure enough we checked it later and the parents said she wasn't going to ride the bus so so you know there's a lot of adjustments at this time of year and we were happy to see her riding the bus so that's great and we have room on the bus so not a problem but we'll uh we'll continue to do that but to answer your question i think we have room if parents want to send their kids on the bus i think we can accommodate thank you thank you this is wait um sorry just a couple just a piggyback on what shannon said um dr gifford just as you kind of were thinking ahead to thanksgiving and to the holiday what are your you know i already saw on social media parents were talking about going to disney and you know out of state how are you going to address that i guess with parents coming you know coming back from those holidays i mean are we going to have the students quarantine like what are i mean some people might you know what if little johnny says i saw mickey mouse you know but you haven't heard from the family so how will we address that very good point yeah well as you know well i would hope families know massachusetts has regulations that they're supposed to follow there's actually a form on there and they can be have 500 fine if they don't follow the governor's regulations obviously we can't police that so we did include that piece on our chart though to bring notification to that because they would have to um we did we have had some people go out for the weekend and we happened to hear the child talk about it so the parent was contacted and said you can't come back to school unless you have a positive negative covet test which they can they can get so we've had had a few of those but yeah so folks out there listening it's it's an important thing that they follow the governor's regulations you know the piece being so far so good we know as shannon said there will be positive cases and so everything that all of us can do to keep that away from us is important um yeah yeah and then spread the word and then um just i did have um some parents who asked i guess they have you know children the virtual elementary but it kind of brings up the late like the larger issue of substitutes you know so i guess they were concerned like and i kind of thought it's very it would be very difficult i would think for someone to come in and you know take over that virtual classroom so you know i but they were asking i guess one of the teachers wasn't able to be there you know had informed the parents ahead but they were wondering like what is going to be the plan for you know virtual classrooms in other classrooms and the teacher can't be there so that's another well the substitute is a is a huge issue staffing itself is a huge issue and even today with one of the schools i noticed on the absentee list so i emailed the school and asked how did you guys do with your subs today and it's piecemeal it was rubrik's cue but in general we um our elementary especially have because they have um more tas usually than the middle and high school right now they have trained right along with the teachers to be that first line of defense so if a teacher is out they can take that class over so that's our first line of defense um we have around 24 subs i think that we've brought in that's all we usually we're substitutes we usually have around 90 to 100.
⚗ AI-reconstructed · cite from original above
oh wow yeah so and mr roy's office did a good job they brought people in they reached out to them are you going to plan on sub because then we did some training with them as well so they wouldn't come in cold turkey with what's going on um the middle school has a fantastic plan in place i just talked to darren today again uh they're really really partnering up each with each other to try to handle each other's classrooms when they have to um and then as far as the virtual class goes i know specifically that i know one teacher first example specifically was out on bereavement but she did some videotape lessons ahead of time so the kids could access those and other than that we haven't really had any issue other issues with the virtual classroom not to say that we won't going forward so whether one of our coaches that has already taught in there is able to sub for that day or not but um if we know ahead of time i think i think the plan will be to continue to have um plans ahead of time recordings ahead of time and and that so that the kids can have it because it is hard you can't it's such a new world to have a teacher just jump in you know even if it's the technology issue they're not sure of what the google meets and whatnot oh yeah but i i'm very pleased with the schools themselves of really working out the substitute issue within each school so we'll see we'll see we even just um put on our facebook page substitutes needed sub monitors and i don't know if that paid off i don't know but that's good there's five people that sign up no it's everywhere it's everywhere it's everywhere yeah yeah yeah and i think the only thing i i had one other parent who asked me and this you know may go more to mr kylie is about the balancing of the cohorts in the high school like you know she was observing that you know there in her child's particular half of the class it seemed that there were you know 20 kids and so i guess there was she was asking i always and i knew that was going to be a difficult endeavor for the high school but i was wondering like you know how did it end up panning out like in terms like the numbers on each side were you able to kind of like you know in the scale balance how you know what did you find it wasn't it wasn't in relation to transportation right no no no no no no i mean it was basically strictly an alphabet right yeah right and as a result you end up with classes within that that are you know not balanced and i know they do have some issues with that we did and and as you um remember as saying we went over at the middle the high school and met with them yeah we tried to start with the high school but because of the size of the classes and trying to do that split we finally abandoned that and they were working on it but we went with the other levels first to to help with the transportation but we came over and worked with bridget and da silva the guidance director and ross and the team really trying to give ideas of how to split those classes because i guess we're very fortunate that we did start with the high school later to come in because we just couldn't find the rooms and it was a lot of manipulation of moving teachers out of their regular rooms and all of that so yeah i guess some are uneven and then they also have to look at the special education cohorts and how they the ratio in the classes fit or what the kids chose so there's a lot i think it's easier at the elementary level but the high school was tough yeah i'm sure it was tough yeah but the rotation of classes yeah it was very tough yeah well thank you you're welcome anyone else yeah i i think my uh my colleagues sort of spoke to a lot of the questions i had but uh just to reiterate um well you had mentioned the middle school really working to make a plan for some of those virtual learners that were right struggling significantly and i just want to you know thank everyone that was involved with that because it sounds like there's a good plan in place too yeah and not only the teachers themselves that have stepped up and they came for one one teacher in particular came forth with a good idea to offer those extra advisory periods and using our assessments for the kids but also on the guidance counselors there i think from the the beginning and you've heard us all talk about it already mr gallacher talk about it we we didn't know you know and we just didn't know and and um it took a little bit of time to get really figure out what the heck was going on with this program and um with a huge thanks to mr galashaw for taking that over i think i was going to give him a nervous breakdown after a while but then same thing working with the middle school and saying coaxing them in you know the guidance counts and helping them to understand what was involved so um anyway yeah it's better right now yeah yeah right now thank you i don't really have anything additional tonight yeah no thank you to all those involved it's great to see the high school starting back up along with grade eight my daughter's a cohort starts tomorrow she can't wait to get into can't wait to get into the building looking very much forward to it um to uh mrs wade's point yeah i would advise that the the public you know keep up to date on the guidance put out by the governor's office for traveling especially with the thanksgiving holiday and other holidays coming up that be cognizant of the choices you make and do you know and do that not only for yourself but for all of all of us and all the students here in dartmouth public schools because it does matter we i really do i hope that we try to work together to keep each other safe yep um ultimately so thank you everyone for your comments thank you everyone up here for your hard work and dedication um and to your team and all the teachers out there and staff as well because this is a monumental task next up turn it over to uh this roy proposed revision of school committee policy eb cfa face coverage so we just have a slight edit to what we approved back in mid-september to include the additional face coverings that have not shown sufficient protection so the ones with the vented valves or uh exhalation piece so the droplets come out and the shield when worn solo without any other protection so and i also added a statement afterwards that said we would adhere to any updates from the cdc on any future mass so we wouldn't have to keep coming and adding to that and i put the link to there to their site so if we could have vote for this tonight that'll cover us moving forward good any questions from miss roy emotional approve second motion by mr nunes the second by mrs amarill on the motion any other discussion all in favor opposed motion carries unanimously thank you miss roy next up under new business superintendent's update dr gifford all right so you know i i put out um dates for a little bit a session it's about a two hour session with mask we've done this a couple years back is no i think i heard from everybody and i think november 16th would work me if i'm wrong thank you um i'm looking um i'm not available until five i know he was fine i think he wanted to get out early but i'm like that's fine all right so i will ask um glenn coocher if november 16th after five o'clock i would would work as you know uh we were involved in the s something non-covered the st math program last year with our elementary remember gigi you heard a lot about gigi and all so that's picked up we have some professional development for the teachers coming up with the new changes for that program that was always a good success teachers have been meeting and will continue to meet to adjust our scope and sequence now with the change in our how we're attending school etc so that's again with miss aloe vera and we recently um we have purchased that last year we had a subscription it was a sample not a sample but a trial subscription to this mayan digital reading materials through renaissance and so we've uh they offered we kept pressuring them to offer a good deal so we got that and we it's for our k to five it's digital reading materials and it really helps get books leveled readers into kids hands that we can't maybe give them the book but it's a digital library and um so we are happy to be able to offer that to the k to five and then we continue to use the new zela up to grade eight which is again another fantastic reading materials for kids and um i'm trying to look i think that's about it we talked about everything just a couple of new things as i said non-covet going on because we do do other things we do we seems we don't but we do and that's it for tonight thank you dr gifford i really don't have anything other than um i know i don't know if everyone else got the uh masc annual meeting i think some of it's going to be uh remote so it's always a good meeting if you haven't had the opportunity to go um i don't know this is the keynote event but i believe that there are there is a whole day of virtual sessions uh dr gifford yeah i think so i believe yeah i haven't really had a chance to really look at it but that's coming up in november so if you haven't had the opportunity it's always a a great event and we can you always have an opportunity to find at least one or two really good speakers there um that you i every year that i've gone and i've gone probably four or five now i always walk away with something i like it yeah so it's definitely worthwhile and that's really all i have this is america i do have one thing that i would like for folks to be aware of um putting on my cpap cat we the special ed parent advisory council organized a few meetings but specific to the timeliness of this meeting on wednesday october 28th at 6 pm we are hosting some guest speakers via zoom about specific to and i know this is an issue for all students but the our our focus is the typically under normal circumstances the difficulty of students with and without disabilities to kind of come together and form friendships and with covid global pandemic and being remote we have some an interesting presentation around building friendships at school during challenging times um and so if people are interested in that the zoom link will only come once you're registered for some you know extra security precautions around the online platform so if folks are interested they can go on our social media page the dartmouth special education advisory council page and it's listed as an event online so it it should be quite informative even just just a little example of you know how do we how do we make friends we we we have things in common and so some ideas around um maybe having you know for my son he might have a bruins poster in the background so that if he's in a in a virtual setting somebody else might say oh he likes the bruins and that might foster a dialogue and so just tips and tricks like that especially when we're sort of forced to be socially distanced or or um in a virtual platform so just wanted to share that thank you it's october 28th did i say that okay that's all i have today thank you very much it's a wednesday night yep 6 p.m anyone else all right and our next meeting of the dartmouth school committee is i don't have it in front of me november 9th thank you mr nunes monday november 9th same time same place that being said cher will entertain a motion to adjourn into executive session for the purpose to provide an update with respect to collective bargaining with union personnel not to reconvene second motion by mr noon second by mrs wait on the motion any further discussion roll call please ms gunther i'm sorry before we adjourn can i just go back to you are there any public comments that came through since the beginning of the meeting thank you very much so on the motion any further discussion hearing none roll call chris oliver yes shannon jenkins yes kathleen amral yes john nunes yes mary wait yes this meeting has been adjourned have a wonderful night everyone
