And because you're going to go away, and if that's worried, my... Thank you. Let [Music] meing appreciate the work they are doing. It has been an effort for everyone. In October, supposedly we were going to return, but we have always had to change. The important thing for him is the safety and health of the students, and his advice from the scientists is that the state of California says being in school is important, but the decisions are made in the city. What is different now is that they will continue with the strategies. The numbers are different; the numbers are high. Social distancing is sometimes hard, but now what we are seeing is that people are gathering in groups. They have to be attentive to this and they have to adjust the process. The advice they give us through the state is looking at the data for the strategies.

That is a position with the recommendations from the community. What they have spent feeling comfortable with after this whole waiting period. The elementary schools, up to the fifth grade, are bringing back the little ones. The elementary schools are going to face the reopening. The important thing is that they return safely. The [Music] school will have meetings regarding quarantines. It's a rule for those parents who want to send their children to school; they have to do what they've said before. [Music] is easy. The plan is to follow the strategies so that everyone is in their place and on the right track. They're also looking at February. This week they'll have a clearer idea of how they're going to return. In January they're going to send confirmations of the opening days. They do n't want to discourage anyone because of the changes. They've looked at that, that search, and from there they see the resources they need and they're going to finalize those plans.

Perhaps by the end of this week, the [ Music] reopening plan is open in many ways. Communication is open; they're all on the same page. They want to see the children return. It's strange, but they're not asking questions when it comes to safety. They're going to have time to make changes with their decisions. At this point, I think that we 're all in the same boat. I want to thank the entire community for their patience. It's important that they return. At this point, it's going to be finalized. Suddenly, by January, so that he returns, many questions will be posted on the website. Thank you for the support and encouragement to the parents. He appreciates everything. [Music] He cares a lot about the students, their safety, and their well-being to the community. There are questions and answers on the website. If you need more questions or a recommendation, they will send letters to the community, and the information will also be on the website.

here tonight we have switzerland county jennings county and greensburg all wrestling tonight we're still in the first few matches against greensburg against switzerland county the second match has been dragged out a little bit because of nosebleeds so does he have a time limit does he have a time what is it okay so so it stops leaving so he's got around 30 seconds left according to evan beret senior wrestler for greensburg and that's a that's a nasty nosebleed right there they've tried virtually every way they can to take care of this but appears nothing's really working as we speak it's working were we not going before it was on periscope but for not on youtube for some reason i don't know so i got it working okay so welcome to the viewers on youtube now only had people from periscope uh just to catch you up here we had greensburg versus switzerland county right now uh greensburg's winning 36-3 because of many forfeits there's only been one match and we're in the middle of the second and then that's going to be it evan bray unfortunately lost this first one but greensboro's school are going to take the dub and schumann looks to takes this one he's up four to three we've had a nosebleed from tyler lyland from switzerland county this is a 195 pound matchup up any no we're not starting yet boy now he's got something wrong with this helmet here oh he's back in there he's ready to go schumann's starting on top kyler on bottom got to feel bad for tyler or kyler here as you know his nose has been bleeding uncontrollably swings him around schumann on top looking for the looking for the pilot trying to get a reverse stand up can you break it for a point can you break it oh throw him into the ground no points awarded yet both gents on top of each other here schumann's got him on the ground schumann looking for the pin using that bodyweight kyler's just getting his face put into the ground here and that bloody nose it can't filter schumann pick up the reverse take down here again he does pins him right to the ground no points this kid's just struggling now leland what a tough one for this kid better position schumann on top of course leland supporters out here trying to cheer him on as he's had a tough match but luke schuman just seems to be the dominant one out here tonight pushing him out and now now he's getting up maybe no schumann stops it just trying to use this time make it run out here schumann's got one arm locked up trying to take him down all the way trying to get his back on the mat switched around okay warning on green that's that would be luke not exactly sure what it was but we're not close enough to see going back to the center luke on top once again schumann just grabs his legs and let him move just gets him like a flopping fish this kid's trying everything and he can't seem to get anything going here in this round a lot of talk coming from the greensburg bench here 10 seconds left in the round can anyone get points here luke looking to bring it he's got a leg nope it appears this one's gonna go to luke schumann luke wins that round four to three that is the end of the matches between greensburg and switzerland no got a glimpse of leland's nose here and it appears it has just swollen to the max going through the rest of the forfeitures for switzerland county and greensburg so now it appears we will go through some senior awards for greensburg two seniors on the greensburg team this year elizabeth pavey and evan bray and we have a manager tanay kramer who is also a senior again this is senior night for the pirate wrestlers first home meet too they did this with football and other sports got the senior knights out of the way quickly just in case they didn't get a chance to have it later on in the season so senior parents are on the wooden court can't get the best view but they're there up next i believe it will be switzerland and jennings county uh not sure who is all wrestling there yet of course switzerland has there too jacob wolf and kylo island jennings county has a few more wrestlers if i'm looking at this right there will be jonah matthews oh here we go walkouts for the seniors we'll talk about the other matches in a minute long list of accolades for evan bray here good job evan looking to become a lineman once he leaves high school up next is tanay kramer she's manager of the wrestling team again involved in many sports she played soccer wrestling manager this year many clubs as well and tonight kramer is still undecided on where she wants to attend college but she knows what she wants to major in so that's the good part up next is elizabeth pavey her first year wrestling she is quite the athlete to say the least yeah she uh quite the cross-country runner all throughout the years runs in the blood her older brother vincent pavey was also quite the athlete man played soccer and football at the same time which seasons occur at the same time very talented kid he's now training in the navy i believe is that where he's at it's something in the military i know that not 100 sure might be navy or marines but i believe navy right toby will know vincent like training for the navy right vincent's training for the navy right and stuff what what is he doing then something with the military yeah no okay okay a little bit changing the program here greensburg is going up against jennings county it is not switzerland versus jennings like we originally believed okay so this is junior varsity here we go both wrestlers going at each other real quickly here [Applause] we do not have the match-up given to us for this so we will do our best to call it as is ryan mayer here goes for the single leg here trying to flip him on his back look it's supposed to be forfeit okay here we go jennings county on top here brian merritt brian mayer gets on top of him now has him on the ground needs to bring on his side the 4-1 lead for greensburg right now in the first match this is again greensburg versus jennings county [Applause] a lot of talk both around benches goes for the single leg here virginia county seems to two points awarded to greensburg greensburg up 6-2 again that is brian merritt wrestling for greensburg bryant merritt slams him to the ground here no point reverse takedown oh is he gonna get it here takes him to the ground needs to get us back down needs to roll him around to get some points he is on top can you do it no goes for the headlock here jennings county wrestler and he's trying to get a firm grip on that headlock but not sure he can there's and there's the buzzer for the first round greens break up 62.

all right ready to go here excellent all right good evening everybody um so i'm jean fey i'm one of the apea jlmsc representatives and um ben and i are going to make a it's not really a statement but just we're going to talk a little bit about um something that we think is very important which is clear concise communication going to everyone in the educational community in amherst so the jlmsc will be working together because we are a joint committee on coming up with a way that we can provide the educational community with updated regular information that comes from one source to prevent any misinformation getting out into the community and it's just as someone who has worked on two school crisis guides a national one and a state one i know that clear concise language is really important to uh managing a crisis so ben what do you want to add to that hi emma yeah i kind of just wanted to add on like kind of stress the importance of you know emotions are high at these these times you know this is a this is a crazy time for all of us nobody has been through this if anyone says that they've been through a situation like this that's that's absolutely not true and i think because of that it's super important that we're clear concise and and kind of on on message and that we convey exactly what comes out of these meetings because uh yeah i i think we've all seen 50 shades of what it is that we say here and we kind of need to put that in black and white and declare emma we're just talking a little bit about how about the importance and i know you have have a background in disaster management which i love um the when you're managing a crisis how important clear concise language is when you're communicating with constituency so um and it won't just be the information that's coming out of the jlmsc it will be the information that's pertinent to anyone that is part of the educational community um that way there won't be different versions of something all right so go ahead ben i'm sorry all right and i was going to say per the other conversation we had the other thing that we're going to do at least from the facility side there were some there were some very strong opinions that i was uh apprised of this morning so so what we're going to do is in in addition to just having the the conversation about facilities we're going to give like an in-depth report that first the jlmsc members will receive and then we'll figure out how to disseminate that kind of distill the information down to easily digestible statements that that sort of thing but yeah and i don't want to give the impression that this is something that that we just came up with today this is actually something that i had suggested back in october so as with any committee there's a lot of work that goes on in many many hours outside of the actual committee meetings so with that um i think the facilities update was the first thing on the agenda so ben why don't you go ahead and do that yeah so so from our end the uh the nexus report has gone to the district now and i i think we're at i'm not sure if it's been disseminated yet have you guys received that yet on the apa side we we received the report um earlier today that was um what you and rupert have been putting together we have we haven't seen the the full nexus report um yet just the the raw data would be wonderful for us to see also um but thank you for giving us the distilled version as well we appreciate the information and then um we also shout out to erica in the facilities department for working around the clock and we we've also come up with the these maps that they kind of make it a lot easier to just quickly kind of see what each room is doing and to see which rooms that we're not using because i i think that's probably important for some folks out in the community to know that you know there are rooms that that will not be tested because they will not be used that that sort of thing i think that's a wonderful step in the the direction of having that clear concise information available it's going to make things um very user friendly thank you for that step right right cause i i realize that that not everybody is uh i i think you me gene are probably more enthralled by the the raw data in in these sorts of things and not everybody necessarily needs it that way but um we also for the uh we got we just today received these these super large i'm trying to say it in the simplest way these huge air purifiers that are that are hepa filtered for the uh for the larger spaces you know such as the gymnasium and that sort of thing seeing how uh sports passed the vote for sports past this week and we'll be proceeding with that so so that's going to help us do that in the safest manner possible and then you know we just keep rolling with the facilities stuff basically and then and also adding on to that the sports piece the pool has started to be filled which is a long and boring process more or a long and necessarily tedious process i'll say uh addition in addition to that there's been ongoing work to the uh the time out spaces there were a couple that that kind of needed there were a couple that we can just basically kind of plug and play put the the air purifiers we need in without much problem and then there were some others that need some more kind of uh rethinking in in order to to do so safely and then that work is ongoing i was just going to ask you that so the because i think um i remember from last week you said that there was you would know more today right and you did um so any kind of timeline that you could um give us as far as estimate around completion for those the target is to have them done over break because there are a couple that that we we kind of need no one in the area is is probably the best way to get here that makes sense yeah but we we've kind of gone ahead and done as much preliminary work in those spaces as possible how many of the larger um air purifiers did the district purchase two two so far and they're um if you can picture the ones we already have it's they're they're each well size wise they're each about four times as large as those and then like a duct system that attaches to them but they're they're huge then so one will be for the one for the high school gym and then where's where's the other one going to go so so currently the plan is to use both of them in the high school gym okay right it's just because of the the amount of uh space that you have in there and kind of there's a placement issue as far as where the returns are with the returns which that's the part that sucks the air out of the the space just for folks at home and so you don't want to clean air that's leaving the space you want to clean the air in between but yeah but we're using both there and then kind of i'm at least exploring the option of perhaps getting another one for the pool area but it's a personal comfort thing i think and as always thank you for your advocacy um around facilities and maintenance um do you have anything else to share about facilities yeah that's about it there's there's a bunch of minutiae that i won't gonna ball this down on that but yeah that's that's the important information for now yeah thank you all right emma there has been so much information that has come out in the last week around pretty much everything um cdc and i don't even know where to start uh with asking i have a ton of questions and i've been receiving information um and i still have questions so um i don't know krista where would you like to start i know i want to start with vaccines and any updates you can give on that but krista did you have something else that you wanted to ask first uh i want to know about vacci i want to talk about vaccines too um i'm but my the biologist in me is having field day with this new technology so i'm i'm all all over this vaccine and i want to know more about what you think i'm just going to ask a quick question first about testing the asymptomatic testing that has opened up at umass i'm curious about that because what i'm what i'm reading is that that is going to be an ongoing service that will be provided until about the end of january when students return um so i know they just started but i'm i'm hopeful to hear if there are plans to encourage any information that you might have about um hoping to get umass to continue this service longer yeah so i know i believe the agreement the is that they're gonna do about 3 000 tests a week so many many tests for the asymptomatic through january when the students come back and then what i have read um i don't have it right up in front of me right now is that they are going to continue that testing but on a more limited amount once the students come back but that the plan is to continue that at least through march at this time from what i remember reading so that's good so that'll have some increase there's going to be the testing in greenfield there's going to be more testing out in the berkshires now which wasn't there before um so it's where our community kind of needs us right now excellent okay thank you um all right let's talk vaccine so um we're we're curious what what you know um i guess there are two different things we're curious about education and outreach but we're also curious about um administration and getting the how is the vaccine distributed on a local level how how are we how we know what phase that educators are in in the general public but what is dissemination going to look like of that yeah i think you you are not alone and wondering i think all of us are just wondering um because we like plants i think a lot of us i know i do i love plans and structure um and we haven't had the opportunity to do this kind of really widespread immunization program in a long time so dph and the cdc is giving out lots of structure as it comes down to give us some more idea and and really it's we're going to have clear directives on how we're going to be administering this how they're advising it be executed and implemented and all of those things i do know i'm very excited to say that the town of amherst we are officially registered as of early this week to receive vaccines from the state uh as a registered site um we have a new fridge and we have a freezer not an ultra cold freezer but a another vaccine freezer for extra capacity on order that's coming so that would not qualify us to take the pfizer vaccine but other vaccines like the moderna and the other ones that are coming down the pike we would be able to take and part of when we get those directives and the clear plan from dph it's going to be how probably what is called push vaccine distribution meaning that we're going to be going to community areas where there's going to be lots of density i'm not sure if that's going to be schools but when i think about it tradition like historically i think about going to housing complexes where there's a lot of individuals that live there in a specific population whether it's elderly or people who have transportation issues sometimes historically they did do vaccines in schools i know that's a very individualized choice um and certainly though that would not be done without appropriate waivers from parents and consents so there's more to come with that i think we're all very excited about the information and i think for us on the community level there's still time to figure out how the all the pieces will come together uh the idea the time frame that we're being told for general community distribution is about late march or so is when they're anticipating being able to meet that need all right um emma can you let us know what kind of work is being done um for the vaccine distribution around getting translation services uh i know that dph has been working with the academic volunteer corps for that in terms of us on the local level we have not done that yet but i will make it an item so i don't forget once that happens i do know that i did reach out i had a great relationship with with the school department with helping train figuring out how you translate uh documents at the school system um and i i know if if we're able to continue to use that process and the great resources that you have i think that would be really seamless thank you i think it's really important we make sure that we are reaching as many community members as possible with as much translation services possible as well i know we have a lot of different languages that are spoken in our community and we we want to try to make this as easy as possible for everyone absolutely i agree with that um the other question that i have and again um i know that there was a ton of cdc information that came out this week do you have any other updates from cdc in because it the information is so widespread do you have a specific target or topic that you're referring to are you going to jump in on that um there was in particular um a page that seemed most useful was the page that was addressing or the status of um communities that are having very high widespread cases like ours and it had implications for um it had implications for schools and lots of other places um as well it was more of a broad you here's what to do once you've reached high high transmission status yeah i i didn't get to really review that specific page before this meeting so i can't recall what's on it but i do know that governor baker his new orders are going to be enacted i believe it's saturday at midnight is when they those go into place with reducing of gathering sizes and limits and us rolling back to that phase three step one as a community in massachusetts as a whole throughout the state and reducing capacity for general stores retail restaurants to 40 percent uh of the size i'm probably misspeaking because i don't have it right in front of me and increased mask wearing when you're at restaurants um and even in office spaces if you have any shared office space that masks are expected to be worn all the time those are the things that immediately come to my my mind krista um but i i know that here in on the public health side of things with our contact racing we are we are definitely feeling the outcomes um of activity what of people spending time together and traveling during thanksgiving um we're starting to see that now so all right i um sorry i wanted to go back to the vaccine um just um for a minute because i think there's some confusion around the time frame in between doses i think can you clear that up it depends what vaccine you're gonna get uh and so when we get closer to the distribution of it we'll get more plans and that will be very clear for everyone to understand um the state is also implementing uh electronic software so we'll be able to help monitor patients that receive the vaccine people will be able to get notifications with and documentation with what vaccine you got and when your next your secondary dose is due some vaccines are two weeks some are 28 days with that second dose so it's really going to be vaccine specific in terms of the brand if you will the company that made it um excellent um i think see the vaccines on um and uh uh you know everybody wants things to feel like normal so i think it's important for people and all of us to hear that the time in between doses matters and the time after the second dose matters and it's it's not a magical you have it and now go ahead and resume regular life so that's good to hear um i have a question about contact tracing um as well we've been talking about um and this is this is probably something i know this is something you deal with all the time so this is um this should be not a hard question i don't think but i'm curious if you can talk a little bit about confidentiality when contact tracing and how that applies if we're dealing with kids in schools and teachers and classmates and these intimate settings where everybody knows everybody and if we have somebody who we're contact tracing and um we we have a suspected positive case how we how we deal with that as delicately as we can oh i think that's a hard question but definitely a necessary one no but it's a good one because we're when any i think any of us try to gather information out of out of concern right and and because we care about our community and the people around us and we want to make sure that everyone's being healthy safe and cared for in terms of contact tracing [Music] the privacy of that is something that we take very seriously um so we engage the individuals meaning if it was a child the parent or guardian of that child and we would communicate with them and then in terms of the school side with the contact tracing i know the school nurses are doing that on this on the school level uh and then they're relaying that back to i believe the brain my brain just lost it it's gone did you see that little flurry it's friday it's friday at 4 45 with the principal that's what i meant to say and robin supernaut as the head of nursing um in terms of how that information flow comes back down but also while being sensitive of who it's going to affect and the messaging that's going to go out because one like we said earlier in the meeting and jean said messaging is very important and consistency um in these times consistency in a very clear flow path can make people feel more comfortable um and and and acknowledged i agree last question uh i'm looking at the clock at 4 45 last week i had asked you about community education any community education around um testing and the vaccine that the town was going to be doing can you give us any updates on that yeah i know that i scheduled um today brianna from the communications side for amherst i'm going to be on the community chat next week for as an open forum for people to be able to ask questions for us and be able to receive that and kind of give a sense of where we're going um i know that brianna and i have also been working on communication packages to get that out to the community in multiple different forums um and yep i just lost it again no that's okay um are those going to be are they going to be translated as well yes she's going to do several languages yep excellent thank you okay uh 446 um i know emma we could talk to you for hours seriously um i know you don't want to talk to us for hours but um it's all good i'm happy that i'm here to be able to be in the room with with everyone who's here virtually as well um because it's meaningful work and work that we need to do together all right we yep we we agree completely this this work might feel on a friday afternoon to some to be not the most stimulating and engaging work but um we find this work to be incredibly important as we think about um kids schools and groups of people indoors i i can't imagine more important conversations to be having as we're thinking about those things in our brains so till next week thank you everyone all right thank you any comments here no comments i think no comments no is that was there anything you want to add steve i realized we have to uh we got to work on dedicating a little more time you know

tonight's meeting we're having a full meeting of the for the planning community meeting for uh december 10th 2020. um we have a pretty brief agenda but i'd like to ask vinnie could you do the roll call for quorum please sure that's not supposed to do that mr martelly here mr paragini all right here miss ham here mr grippo here miss harrigan here miss helen here and mr white okay mr chairman you do have a quorum okay i'd like to ask vinnie will you put the flag up for us so we can do a pleasure of allegiance i got it god okay okay i pledge allegiance all right great job guys i just had a flashback to the meeting over the summer where i spontaneously asked marlene to lead us in the pledge and the dog just went with it never heard from that dog again either jeff i noticed you never miss an opportunity to bring that up all right um jeff orvin do we have anything from the audience any emails um for the committee i don't i don't have any okay all right then with that um i just wanted to before we get into it coliers is here this evening coliers is going to be presenting the various various school modernization options to the full board um i think it's important that we start this discussion now i know a lot of you have been following along with our both the school admirers asia committee meeting and then our options subcommittee meeting which has been meeting um basis we had a meeting actually last evening and we have another one coming up this coming monday um i do suggest you listen to those meetings they're very informative so tonight chuck from followers will run us through the various options as they stand today um do know that last night we started developing a scoring matrix um which the school modernization committee is going to be using to refine the various options that you're going to see tonight to kind of start to whittle them down to a few options which then we could actually put full numbers too and then start talking to the town about the actual cost implications for mill rates and etc so with that i'm going to turn it over to chuck and chuck i believe you'll share your screen and walk through the various options yes they're okay can you make it a little bit larger chuck and i did email them to everybody on the board a while ago how does that look andrew a little perfect it's good for me all right great um yeah so thank you chuck warranted with colliers i've met some of you um pleasure to meet the rest of you virtually with me tonight is john copeland's as well um our senior project manager john um we'll probably bring up the matrix andrew and i'm gonna i know there's a lot of work yesterday done i'm gonna have john go through that because he was very really involved with that towards the end right when we get to that so i'll pass it off to john so um in the criteria as i'm sure many of you if you've been watching on uh watching along um we've been developing about five major different types of criteria with slight variations in each of them and and really um as we look through these we can mix and match kind of the i'll say the individual projects it depends on the order um where you'll see options scenarios one and two um they have the high school renovation towards the end um option i think it's four or three as the renovation in the beginning so it's kind of just a flip-flop in essence but little nuances to each of them yeah gross score yeah gsf yep there you go grow square foot um here um so in the options um these options were really driven at least the first couple really driven by our data on the enrollment projections that malone mcbroom did um if those i assume most of you have seen that information but uh your your enrollments and your space requirements in your elementary schools is going to be tightening very quickly and you're you have a strong need for additional space and what we've shared in prior meetings is how do we how do we create that space how do we provide more space to relieve that and essentially there's two is you know major components one is is building this new middle school potentially six to eight there's an option of seven to eight um which needs discussion uh or build a new elementary school or expanding those schools the high school really doesn't meet that need right away the way we see it it's not going to give you more space in that type of an option so that said um the in our in our data here and i think you've had this already i think most of this is pretty straightforward uh we have the options to the left um we show the eight year projected high enrollment where there is either a new project or a renovation for a project because that factor goes into the reimbursement rate uh and how much the state would be willing to participate for that type of a project the cip we don't list them because that would be fully on the town we show the building size uh in in those projects where we would have reimbursement the low gross square footage what that relates to is the excuse me the space standard which is you take your enrollment you there there's a spreadsheet that may some of you may have seen they have factors square foot per student and you multiply it by your eight year high and it tells you what the what they call the building area should be in the building area it's really important to understand it's the inside face of exterior walls so if you're in a room if we're measuring in that inside face is what that is accounting for the thickness of the exterior walls accounts for anywhere from four to six percent in most buildings so in order to develop a budget we apply a five percent factor to that building area if you don't um it could be multi-millions of dollars escalated over many years and you can have a shortfall on a budget if you don't and we've we've had that challenge in the past that we want to avoid the high growth square footage we're adding approximately we're adding 10 percent um to the to the space standard and expectation that there would be programming requirements uh and that would require us to over build if you were build in addition to that that'd be a discussion with oscgr uh but um we we assumed that for a high and low for gross square footage and essentially in our budgets and i'll be happy to show you how we build those if anybody is uh familiar os cgr office of school construction grants in review it's uh the department of construction services they on behalf of the department of education manage the grant process for the state of connecticut uh there are a bunch of project managers uh financial analysts architects engineers and some attorneys as well up with the state so there's any acronyms that we we we don't cover definitely just type it up and i'll we'll clarify um so as we go through this the way we typically build budgets just to give you a quick overview we start with the square footage of the building as a base that's really the core of the budget we'll apply cost per square foot dollars that we've seen historically in projects that'll give us a cost for the building we typically use a percentage base uh for of the building for the site work that's for your drives your utilities storm sewer electric playgrounds parking lots etc um for those and then what is also included in these budgets and it's a total project budget is uh there's ffne at your furniture anything if you take the building you turn it upside down it falls out that's your furniture we account for that the the next component are fees and expenses those are the architects fees materials testing fees hour fees any specialists there might be environmental hazard consultants that need to be involved um there would be printing costs uh financing and bond origination costs which are not included in this because we would need that from jim jascott to um to advise us on that and then lastly what is included also is owner's contingency um that's anywhere from five to ten percent in uh to cover any unforeseen conditions errors emissions requests might become from the district or the town or third party reviews like a fire marshal or a building official may request something during construction so those components in a very quick overview is what comprises a total project budget um so then we go to the right we have our total project budget the low and high to correspond with those and then in the far right we have the low and high for what we estimate to be the district's share using reimbursement amounts for the district for the new reimbursement it's john you have that number at hand 45 i'm sorry for new is 35.72 there we go so news 35.72 and for renovations it's 10 higher of that 45.72 so we have to factor that in we also factor in these district shares we assume a certain amount of ineligible costs and it's really important to understand that many times when a project is sold we've seen that ineligible costs are not taken into account so what it does is it overestimates how much the state is going to reimburse and then sometimes there's expectations that are not met um on a project so our first scenario here um is um would be a construction of a new elementary school in this in this uh option we're showing uh in different colors uh we calculated a school that would accommodate 550 students 600 students and then 700.

roll call Cory Burgess here Doug blutz here here jeie Borland here Brandy de here hey all are present um please join me for the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance the flag of the United States of America for which it stands one nation under God for tonight's meeting I would like to do any motions when we vote on motions to please uh let's try to do an order let's go myself uh Genie B Genie Borland Doug Diaz we'll just go down the row as it's listed here um okay there are no calls to the public thank you board member and board members for uh hashel meeting uh as I've indicated to you in some emails the circum week have been very very fluid and uh increasing um and uh we don't have so many cases among students uh Active cases among students but we have very high uh and staff six right now but we have 27 employees who are out with serious symptoms of covid and are awaiting testing and we have other employees out for other various other illnesses and other reasons very difficult for us to staff our sites and maintain the mitigation practices that we have at our sites uh and it's just been I asked you to have this meeting to consider uh placing our entire School District on quarantine for the 4 days of school for next week might have do we have any questions for D at this time nope all right who would like to begin [Laughter] me um I do have two letters that were dropped off here to the boardroom before we started I would like to read them so the board members can know what hello my name is Richard mlin PE teacher at Bullhead City Middle School I just wanted to say that I believe the school should stay open not for me and my conveniences as a PE teacher but for the students I believe they deserve the best chance and the at the best can get and I believe that is in person some already had the I understand those who are high risk should have the option to line I understand there's a risk firsthand as my grandfather passed away in Kansas Sunday I woke up Monday and went to work I did this and yes it was hard and it is still hard every day this week I fought back to never seeing my grandfather again I did it for the students I did it because they should have the best education and I did not want them to miss out I would have needs to stay in person and not fall behind anymore thank you and have a great night the second one is a letter we received from some students at school it reads please don't open because it's easier to learn it's easier and prayer to talk to your teachers online school is much harder to learn we need ours can be able to have communication with their teachers and their friends it's not good for we for our health we need our school the letter was signed by 37 students comments I mean Janie Borland I I mean I person agree with the teacher I agree with the students however I think at the time we also need to look at the health and safety of of our staff and the students that are there right now um it's a matter of four days before Christmas break I feel like if we could give ourselves a a three week to get a break from all of this with as many cases as we're having um maybe people will actually listen and stay home in quarantine our biggest are positive in sending their kids to school and it's yeah it's we can't control what other parents are doing or teachers that are exposed and going and teachers not knowing and are going exposed I mean I feel like if if it weren't Christmas break we might have a different different line of thinking but with only four days I I mean I think at this time it just go virtual I don't know if new instruction should happen next reteaching and catching up and working on what they've already been doing um because it is hard to learn virtually I don't think there's a right answer at this point m jeie but my concerns here is the decision to close will have a ripple down effect um we need to take into serious consideration what this is going to do to the rest of the community and for example I teach at the high school we have finals next week um if we decide to close school how many kids are going to be pulled out of school because they have to babysit how many kids are we going to we going to lose for finals at the high school um that might end up with an incomplete because we're concerned of not being able to staff understand this isn't about how many new cases we have the paper that's in front of me right now shows 10 Active cases in our district 10 um we have had 45 since July of 2020 um that's what 0.2% of the population of our staff and students the Ripple down problem we're going to have here if we do close for that week is going to be catastrophic what do we do with teachers that are at the high school for example if we're district and now they can't be there for finals week this is going to create a huge huge problem that we're not considering here on this that we definitely need to take into consideration I think that if our right now is is a staffing issue because we're so short-handed there our Gradebook for the semester is closed so what education do we have or is going on for the last week of of of the semester I mean this could be a great time to work on on this catch-up time but but I for for whatever reason we've we've closed that's that's a week of Education that goes into I guess next semester um I I'm I'm not in favor of closing for these four days Mr President yes I I I hear what you're saying I I I really it's we're in a no- win situation no matter what we decide we're not going to make everybody happy bottom line is is that and is that we based on the information that have we don't have enough St help or to keep the children corts correct so if you if let's stay open we have a teacher say a first grade teacher that's gone then those students that are in that first grade teachers class are going to be spread out among the other first grade teachers so now we're mixing cohorts so how kids are we going to inadvertently um put in exposed because we can't staff enough that's my concern okay so I think we should close so the concern is a staffing issue um how many staff members are we currently missing at each location sorry uh at sunr um we [Music] have uh an adult uh we have uh uh at and um any more if we were to do any more close quarantine classes there at Diamondback we currently have one covid case and we have five adults six adults I'm sorry six adults on quarantine that does Valley we have on quarantine uh I'm sorry one a positive adult we have three office staff and four on qu Fox Creek we have uh two staff on quarantine and uh no actually three we have a third one today at the middle school we have one adult on um quarantine districtwide and this includes district office Coyote Canyon Transportation chart Wells and ABM and when I indicate uh a couple of these that might uh they actually serve in the schools but they're considered a district employee so we have one adult quarantined with family and we have a positive adult um identified today and three other adults awaiting testing so in the over uh in the summary to you today um updated at 2:30 we have six employees in the district with covid 27 employees quarantined or waiting test and then uh we have the number of students that I had shared with you all so we have six Active students and we have 11 students awaiting test results and this is AC that's across the district the issue when it's at a site is maybe only two or three employ employes are absent because of covid there are other absences for flu and other illnesses but the ri school is partly what Mrs uh Diaz said of splitting up students but it also means taking uh say pair professionals from the task ordinarily do and giving them additional tasks or shifting their tasks and they're not doing their own jobs and they're helping cover it's created a very stressful situation situation at Sunrise particularly uh and at Diamondback the situation that we had from last week so we have 13 classrooms right if I got that right that we're worried about coverage uh yes so 13 13 class we have enough par professionals and AIDS office help Vice principles superintendent curriculum destruction and office staff to cover 13 classrooms because personally I would rather see us close the district office and move our staff from the district office than displace 2500 kids so it's one week it's one week guys we we really have to understand what's going to happen if we close the school and if the like I was saying earli the ri down Ripple down effect this what are we going to do when now that it's been quarantined and closed all of the Employers in this community that now have to provide time off for their employees cuz we closed the school by federal law have to provide time off for their employees if they have fewer than 500 employees do what is the high school going to do because they have enough Subs we can't fill 13 classrooms we have I believe we should have enough pair of professionals AIDS we we pull out of the woodwork so if if we if we need to get office closed and move people out of the district office for those 4 days those classrooms to do what needs to be done we can't Genie had a great idea is catch-up work these teachers that are quarantined that are not out are still working from home so they're basically in that classroom watching what's going on for those four days doing that catchup work the grade books are closed the grade books are closed for the semester so what happens this next week isn't tragic and and happens this next week in the big for getting that catch-up time done that instruction can be done remotely in we can fill this it's a mistake if we close this week it is going to create so many this community and it are other sites because of the unknown and there is another option four days it's four days option and then we have two weeks off then we can breathe we can St and reevaluate this is the worst time to to do this because it's going to put such a burden on so many things president yes it I I I know I understand what you're saying but it it truly isn't an unknown we unknown last week and we said oh and let's wait the week and see what happens well now we've got more people adults more children that are sick so it's not really an unknown we do have we keep the schools open we're gonna have more people they saying about yeah you're right that you know there may be parents say Hey you know I have take time off for my kids or High School stud I I don't know I understand it's a no win situation I we only have to disclose for four days we there are only 10 Active cases but we all in quarantine because they're waiting T because we made them stay home parents came and got them and chose them we have staff that we we we have staff that we told can't knowing any symptoms okay so we don't active in our district 10 as of right now yeah okay so we're you guys are considering closing the school for 4 days for 10 cases and it's spread out throughout the schools this contract the contraction we're getting of this of this disease isn't being linked to what we're talking about we had a we had that problem we had the emergency meeting for just the other day and we have no more Uprising in diamond back that's not true Mr President acve cases or recovered cases six employees go home this week with symptoms very ill employees at that site only one has been back okay so Co but there how many employees at Diamond Back are not there that we have that we told they couldn't come back uh just from one classroom one the others that are out reflect on this chart that I I put here on the desk for people information that I sent to you but the the ones that are out where I listed them in the uh information I sent you today where it says they're out on quarantine is because they quarantined their class that's the case at Diamondback we have sick people at Diamondback at uh Sunrise um uh the folks that we quarantined uh part of them quarantined but part of them are ones out with covid who would have been quarantined because of a kid situation out because that employee is ill and others are out with symptoms so of the 27 folks that are uh in the that number that I gave you of those 27 employees who are quarantined at least half of them are ill we just listed them all as quarantined as opposed to what they're ill with there yeah and and when it comes down to how that how they that they they mandate what the time off for your illness is or I think it is the the family act when you're sick it does not kick in unless you are Co so you if you have if you are home because you have an illness test it's not the same so we're assuming those might be Co because we don't know they're just ill we don't know so we're assuming um we haven't seen any other students been reported to you from Diamondback cuz you've got the two here active all right that have stayed home one of them one of them is new this I had to have a cheat sheet this one because I have it better yes sir good long time but from what I'm hearing and the numbers I uh I'm of the opinion to move uh we show and and I guess we have people that are being sent to school knowing there's covid in the home we have teachers coming to school that are in contact with it because there's nobody to cover classes I mean I I don't and that's and that's the problem I mean I had a daughter who was sick last week and I kept her home for the entire week until her test came back negative and we don't have it's not not all staff are being proactive and I think that's where our problem is and we can't fix that no I I agree with that point but I just don't believe the solution is closing the school with four days left to go in the semester four days left and they're going to be apart for three weeks it may give everybody a chance to self themselves and hope hopefully follow the rules next time if they don't like us closing the schools down then follow the rules this is Randy um I was wondering if we could urge families that are able to keep their kids home if they could do that we are limited to fill the classrooms and so um I don't know if we could just kind of put a warning out there like please keep your kids home our schools are low on staff um it won't affect their grad his grade book is already in I don't know if that's a possibility we got out uh earlier this week in fact anytime that we uh notify or put out a press release or Facebook media media social media we put that exactly and this week I very specifically said if your children if there's somebody in your home who is ill keep your kids home if you can just keep them home well and we've told we've told anybody we have these cases the decision about Diamondback I said if kids are absent we're we're not as an excused absence because we're not going to we're not going to penalize kids when we have these kinds of conditions yeah but I think what Craig you were saying there was asked the parents that can to keep absent whether they're sick or not so you mean for next week whether they're sick or not please keep them home unless you know the parents are going work they have no other option we do have staff that is there they're limited so we need like home whether you're sick or not since who you know their siblings are at high school or their parents are at work um and their kids are not sick and need to come to school I like that idea I really like that idea Dr Stewart who sent out that letter asking parents to keep their students home um because of the back did we get a a big response on that no it wasn't the kind of letter where we were expecting a response I mean we simply uh in our social media anded parents that they if anybody in the household tested positive to keep kids because several of our positive kid cases this week have been uh th those exact circumstances where somebody in the house household uh is has tested positive family has been advised to quarantine the whole family and they've not done that uh one of the cases that we schol all last week and um uh you know that causes us concern when you know and then by by The End by Thursday of last week the child is showing symptoms so you know we know that child was exposing people for a couple uh it wasn't in it wasn't the kind of uh information where for feedback we were just asking for cooperation from parents to principle about their you know on their end difference so we've never taken this stance before you can keep your kids home if you can't with with them or anyone being sick we've never approached it this way before not what not what Brand's suggesting no we've not ever done that but did it did it change the attendance were more did more parents keep their kids home because they were to affect their attendance or because of what was going on did more students stay home well this week we didn't specifically say to them that we were not going to you know that we were not going to count them absent but in the I've had probably only five or six phone calls from parents and they've said or emails and I've said you know they've said I'm not and so I've said to them if you're not comfortable sending your child I get that you know you're a parent and in case notify the school that that's why you're keeping your child home that you are uncomfortable with sending your child really fluid crazy circumstances and uh and we will excuse their absence and so then I notified the uh the attendance Clerks and the principal said you know if a parent calls in and says they're uncomfortable with their child being at school right now please please get make that an excused absence you know we're we're respecting that that choice by the parents and and this could be a great solution because parents that don't feel comfortable big things here they wouldn't have to worry about attendance issues they don't have to worry about their grades this semester because we already closed the grade book um home maybe they want a longer Christmas break it's not going to be something that would come against them and this also solves a situation with this um in this situation now now that exemption I was speaking of earlier when schools are closed is if you only have five employes or less a large amount of our families here are employed across the river who definitely have more than 500 time off so this really puts them in a situation where there's nowhere to send their children when they are okay and now we've created problems where I think that Brandy Your solution is perfect we could it would lower the number of kids it may not be a drastic reduction but it could lower the number of kids have enough pair of professionals and other step in for those classrooms to cover and we can continue for four days after four days we have a two- we window in there that those that aren't feeling good or may need to be tested we're period to know where we're at for a fresh start and it will it will solve it'll solve so many problems thank you any other comments no other comments okay um can we move forward with Direction then to uh direct the superintendent to put out a memo stating just as BR just as Brandy said are we okay with that I'm not to to urge them to keep their children possible if not schools are still open there will be no um negative attendance record and um to let the administrators know at their sight that we are okay with them doing review um you know doing holiday projects what we're able to still get those kids that need to be there in school wasn't okay with that so Brandy did you want to make a motion yes I move what I had just stated all right then I will second I'm sorry did you have it's Genie I just I have what I mean that gives parents the option to about the teachers that may not feel comfortable and they don't know who the staff are and they don't know who the students are because of you know the health regulations that we can't provide names um the staff that was that was quar takes number from so we've already quarantined and moved staff where there was an issue um if it was a student in their as Dr Stewart was saying earlier what we sent without symptoms quarantining them of those 26 about half employees not necess the of of the exposure that they already had so the other staff would be going to to work like they always do um you'll be going in and doing your class four which even if you decided to quarantine everybody any staff who is not a positive case or who does not have symptoms would be expected to be at work yeah so for the staff their their their position doesn't change either way right they would still be at work either way was that the was that the hopefully maybe some of the staff will get their test I had a test and it took four days which is on the long side so maybe by Monday some of them will have their results back in yeah that would be great yeah that would be that would be a blessing in disguise um any's motion um all in favor I Cory Burgess Jeanie I don't I don't know if I I don't know did you need more discussion time I'm not sure more discussion time is going to help I feel like I could I I feel like I can go both ways I I'm going to hope I'm not a tiebreaking vote because I feel like I I see both sides of it okay we we'll come back to you then um uh Doug uh May and then it is I vote Yes Charlene Jeanie vote it's a lot of pressure I I don't I I I wish parents and teachers I I just wish parents and Habit in their home would stay home and not come back and they're not doing that I mean I I don't want to risk our staff I don't want to risk other students I don't I mean we've worked really hard to keep our cohorts separated in I mean how many classes do we already have quarantined right now hang on a second my screen keeps going to sleep Cory canally for me here you go uh let's see it's we have one uh we have one class quarantined right now back we have one class right now at Desert Valley oops come on at Desert Valley we have two classes right now now and one that we would quarantine uh if if uh schools are open next week because of uh information we received today so that would be three there at Fox Creek we would have one we don't right now but we would have one because of information received today at Bullhead Junior High we have none right now okay so that's six that was six uh classes Genie yeah yeah no I'm I'm going to have to for the I mean and I'm I'm not a an overreactive parent with this stuff but I feel like I feel like the people in the community our our staff our students our parents are not taking the precautions that we've asked to be put in place and I'm going to have to go with no on this one because it's going to mix our cohorts it's going to mix our teachers that's going to put everybody in different classrooms and I I just I'm gonna have to say no yep okay so that puts us at a two yes and three no that motion does not pass what other suggestions do we have Mr President yes I move that we close the um for the last week of school for this last week close all the all the schools Mr President um could I make a comment please yes um Mrs Diaz can you be much more specific than that closing implies that we have nothing going on that that vacation has started is that your intent are you are you talking about quarantining all of our schools let let me let me restate that then um I moved that we um as a district moved to online classes for this last week of the semester is that better well it's more precise that helps me thank you may I ask a question yes um if our grade books are closed does this affect our funding if we were to close early for vacation yes it does yeah if we actually closed and had nothing going on next week uh we would not be able to meet the number minimum number of days that we have to okay okay that's what I wanted to know yeah okay it would have a big effect if it well if it didn't affect our funding it would affect my vote so it does affect the funding it it will affect our funding we have to have so but I wanted to verif yeah we have to have the number of days and uh and not just for our regular funding but now uh both the ESG Grant and the Esser Grant are tied directly to us having remember when we added that one day back into the calendar so that we were matching last year um because that was required so uh there's a there's a whole lot of uh I hate for this to boil down to money because it never should but there's a heck of a lot of money on the line if we don't if we don't have the number of days we need so we're going to have to make up these days no we do not have to make these days no if we closed totally if we closed totally yeah if we're if we're virtual if we're a quarantined and they're learning at home we're not closing and that was that's one of the reasons that I suggested that you say we're quarantining rather than you know rather even than saying that we're going back to Virtual the quarantine allows us to still claim these kids for these days at 100% if we say we're taking them all to Virtual or distance learning now we now we affect that because that becomes the 95 5% funding and I hadn't even thought about that so I'm kind of glad you brought it up reward my I can reward my motion so I have I have a couple more questions before you reward a motion I'm sorry guys um okay are we are we required to have a full school day or can we go to half days if we can we shorten the day no because uh because the days are dependent on number of uh uh number of hours per year okay I thought so I just wanted to verify and then my other question is is Will teachers be able to remain in their classrooms like we did at the beginning of the year or will they have to be at home no we'll have them working in their classrooms unless they have symptoms or are have already tested positive so it's an option for them to be home if they need to be home no well if they if they are ill then they need to be home but if they're not ill and I mean if they're ill in their home and they feel like working they can still work virtually but everybody else we expect to be at work bus drivers secretaries Paras everybody we'll have them busy are you ready for my re my re motion yes okay I move that we quarantine um the students or should I say district for the remainder of this first semester that work yep do we have a second I second that Borland okay good okay all in favor Corey Burgess nay Genie I'm in a I'm Jeanie Borland I'm gonna vote yes however as a parent I'm opposed to this vote and as a teacher I would probably be opposed but for the safety of our staff and students I'm voting yes Doug yay Brandy I will abstain Brandy deis and Charlene yay Charlene be so the motion carries three yeses one no one abstain okay so now we just need a motion to adjourn I make a motion we adjourn Genie Borland I'll second that Corey Burgess I second all in favor I Corey I Genie hi Doug hi Brandy hi Charlene Diaz we are adjourned [Music]

pretty good lead in the first round we have not been given a name for this jennings county wrestler so not a lot we can do about that well brian merritt here was given the decision for starting on the bottom starting on the top here and it appears he might be stronger at the bottom as he chose it well that appears it's not a good decision as he's now quickly he's looking for the reversal it's now quickly under the jennings county wrestler genius county wrestler looking for his footing here for his next move will he get the reversal can brian get the reversal brian has some way found his way on top he's looking to throw the kid to the ground [Applause] here we go oh nope jennings county goes for the headlock but it appears wasn't comfortable enough to work got some wrestling brian picks him up and throws them to the ground young wrestlers here looking to their bench a lot for some help on what to do it appears the jennings county wrestler is staying in this better than you would think as bryant is just keeps relentlessly going at him he's got him in this is half nelson a lot of noise here this is a struggle for jennings county can he get the pin needs to roll he got him over five points awarded to brian merritt kid keeps arching his back to try there's the pin for bryant mayor that is a big lead what a move what a move there we go there's another win for greensburg what a match we had there both wrestlers gave it everything they had here we go again second match of jv still i believe for greensburg here we go we have tanner thompson it appears this is the 145 weight class oh tanner just reversals him he's got him on the ground this could be a quick pin this could be a very quick plan 2.2 points awarded to him not much movement going on as tanner has him pretty down he's got him pinned down [Applause] not much action oh trying to get better placement for this pin there's three points for tanner rj barbarus for jennings county i probably butchered that last name but it's okay tanner just relentlessly going at him here not much this jennings county wrestler can do here there we go one two three four five there's three points awarded thompson is just demolishing this kid he goes for the takedown again brings the kid to his hands and knees it appears he's going to try to get him to lay flat so he can get the pin tanner on top tanner has just dominated this period he's got him flat on the ground the kid appears to be winded and struggling can he get the reversal he can get a reversal here and get some points that would be huge but it doesn't look like anything's gonna happen that's the end of that period so jennings county is to make a choice or defer right here and they chose top tanner's gonna be on bottom i don't know how much it will matter tanner's just dominated right he is he came out with the will to win the night and it appears that's what he's doing can you get out of this very quickly it's up right away almost gets taken down and a hammer flipped over on the back it appears though there's a reversal for tanner tanner's back on turn her back just like that two points anything this kid is trying tanner's just putting to the side doing whatever he wants having his way with this kid basically just what a match by tanner tonight i wonder you know let's see if he has another match tonight because he's pretty good he deserves it tanner's got him on the back will he get three back points here tanner trying to roll him over that appear yes there's three points for a back point there we go three points for tanner once again [Applause] 50 seconds left in this period he's got him on the backhand one and tanner just he's been on top this whole match one two no oh there's a reversal there we go there's a tech fault tanner a little bit winded going back to the bench here come the captains from greensburg a little bit of a shout out for our man robert lawrence who was supposed to be here tonight but unfortunately got contact traced about a week ago so he couldn't make it here comes the count or captain from jennings county and we're gonna get this varsity match underway uh the next match will start at 1 20 between jennings county and greensburg but according to our paper that should be a forfeit so we'll see what happens here it still says still says 120 is a forfeit but they're about to do that that's jennings so our paper is just wrong that's alright we'll work around it couple forfeits going through right here players can't wrestle for one reason or another right now the score is tied here we go and here we go the first year wrestler her first match how can she do tonight jonah matthews for jennings county checking in real quick let's pay thee a real athlete out here her first match of her high school career i'm not sure if she's wrestled in junior higher elementary but how do you think she can do tonight uh well she's i think she can do it honestly there she goes she's staying under control both wrestlers turning around kids from kid from jennings county obviously has the advantage much taller kid from jennings county we have let's pay vegas both outside the mat we'll come back gonna have a reset here for a second was down 2-0 no big deal she's a first-year wrestler and jonah matthews from jennings county is rewarded two points he's up two to nothing against lisby you know it appears she's struggling right now as you can imagine having your first wrestling roll over it doesn't let her back go down her back's not down oh there's some points not sure if that was a full three or two points it appears she's not very happy huh right there okay up next is evan bray not sure he said he bumped up so is he going against joey morin he's going against joey moran here i believe both wrestlers shake hands evan's actually only oh he's 20.

um maloney mcbroom and in their recommendations would be around a 700 student school and this is subject to change subject to fine-tuning of the plan um but for our purposes in the totals we're using this the the 700 student in the green we're using these numbers here in the total at the bottom um that would what that would do is would provide an uh enough room to re-configure your district um what those lines exactly are we would we would find two nodes with meluna mcbroom um but allow room to essentially take off chapman uh we're assuming taking off chapman and darcy and um and uh and uh and consolidate making more room in the and these should be k to six we haven't changed andrew notice the other night but these should be all k to six by the way so um we have to modify that uh the reimbursement rate jeff i saw your question um if we did an addition to a renovation that addition is a has been at the renovation rate not at a new rate so it would be at the temp the higher rate for those unless they change it but they haven't changed that recently um you see any other questions here before we go okay no i'll leave that up um and then so in this scenario uh we'd estimate that project for a new elementary school uh we assume it also on a town property we wouldn't be purchasing the property if we had to purchase property that would be an addition so that's not included anywhere about 55 to 66 million and that can modify a little bit but based upon numbers we have from other projects we're pretty you know comfortable be in that range in the district's share would be about 37 million to 44 million as you can see in here and i'm kind of rounding these up for a new in this scenario we're assuming a cip plan and i'm sure if many of you have been watching uh we're assuming some values over a 10-year period of anywhere from 15 to 25 million uh that would that would be accounted for the cip of course that can change over time depending on the needs the physical conditions of the buildings we haven't gone you know we haven't gone through uh in depth uh on a case-by-case basis we've walked through the schools but we do have some information from from then um and we're kind of using those as a placeholder uh for doolittle highland and norton um in this scenario we're assuming also uh the cip you know again maybe replacing projects window replacement not renovation this is not renovation projects um and we may look at that uh 30 to 45 million for dodd none of that we assume would be reimbursable however there are projects um uh that are reimbursable roof replacement projects window replacement ada code upgrades do get reimbursed at the higher reimbursement rate um cip projects for dodd bennett has been identified for this um we haven't identified them ourselves but i think then we may have a list of of some projects that may be identified in in maybe in your plan but we haven't identified them yet to specify those yeah and and chuck if you could just clarify for the board when you say renovate its renovate is new and and it's a 20-year life yes absolutely and i do apologize um yeah the the renovation status is is a statutory definition and what it states is that a building no less than 75 percent of the building which is over 30 years of age is brought to a like new condition with a an expected life life span of 20 years so you're essentially bringing it down to the structure um to the to the bones you're replacing your electrical you're upgrading your all your hvac new boilers new rooftop units dedicated outside air units it finishes millwork you know basically it looks like a brand new school when you're done except your reason the foundations and the structure um and as noted you may place additions on there if your space standards in your program dictates that and the state is in support of it that can be added on to in certain cases again that's that 45 reimbursement rate and then um in this one we've uh we've placed the we assumed the renovation of the high school with a midpoint of construction um we state that because we escalate the dollars our dollars and our estimates are 20 20 so we have to escalate those with compounding interest we use three and a half percent per year um that might be three some use four um we split the difference and we carry it out to the midpoint of construction um to show those dollars in you know 20 30.

joey moran's quickly going out evan bray here can evan reboun can even bounce back from his previous match against switzerland county here evan goes for the leg moran retracts the legs so evan cannot grab it swings evan out of them has him underneath and he gets some points both wrestlers outside two points award to devon bray moran will start in the neutral position right now there's a warning on evan bray evan tries to pick him up once again evan still takes him down rules no not yet i've been trying to roll him over right pushing him to the ground enjoy doing everything he can on top of him using everything he has left for this match tries to get up moran up moran has been awarded one point that's an illegal hit smacked him on the head so evan here's the point there point for evan bray three to one something you don't want to do in wrestling trying to bring bray over it is all knotted up at three he's been doing everything he can he's not allowing it to craig greg getting his arm retracted quite a bit flips on top oh there's a reversal what a reversal gets him rolled over two points still awarded to joey two points back to bray knotted up at five all here this appears to be a close match bray's gotta prevent him from getting a reversal on him moran contorting his body and there's the end of the period couldn't get him before the end of the period wow how crazy that would have been if brett could have got him in right there for moving up a couple weight classes evan's really showing out right now and usually bray is in the 132 weight class no normally he's in the 126.

and you'll see a big difference when we flip these when the high schools uh up front and then hummus and that's going to be to be determined i know um that's been a a topic of discussion in the town and there are some options to possibly relocate that to the to the middle school but that's the one we haven't fully vetted out yet that we'd have to uh moving forward you can see in this scenario the the low total budgets are 283 million to 376 million total project costs again this could vary in time with estimated district share for the elementary school and the high school and that's the current current rate the high school the rate would be you know different but they stayed pretty consistent um through the years 200 million to 274 million that would that this program would cost um the district over we're saying 10 years it might be 12 but in that range it's not a 20-year plan that we're assuming in this case again we're assuming they're all k-6 uh the pre-the pre-k program at darcy would move the highland as we understand it we're assuming that it wouldn't require any additions to the remaining elementary schools we'd have to refine that a little bit more to see if there is but that that's our assumption that the new elementary school would be able to accommodate that expansion that's required god remains as a seven eight and again renovating the high school any questions on that scenario all right adam then faith thank you um so many questions and even after i've watched all the other meetings um uh chuck firstly it's uh nice to be able to speak to you uh in person or well not in person but personally anyway i know your uh your firm has done a great job so far putting all these projects together um i guess uh my first question is i guess on the new elementary school um the you have it as k through six uh and i think i heard this in a previous meeting does that mean pre-k since darcy's going to be shutting down pre-k is going to go to perhaps some excess capacity at perhaps highland school or something like that that's our assumption in this um scenario we understand that that program would want to stay with the kindergarten and we were advised that it would probably most likely go to highland okay and then the um the assumption is is that all kindergarten then goes to their all kindergarten populations go to their home neighborhood schools at that point that's correct yep that'd be redistributed do uh uh do little would you know bring theirs back into their school with with the relief of some of those uh enrollments and um lastly uh why is there such a um i don't know it's large but a uh a difference between the low and high uh gross square footage as the population increases at their for the elementary designs uh in in these here is they go from 74 to 81 yeah let me let me if you don't mind i'm gonna we'll spring that spreadsheet up for you that way you can you can see it um it's pretty somewhat complex spreadsheet so we'll we'll walk through it probably help to kind of see how the the cake is made if you will or sausage is made so this is the spreadsheet we're showing you here obviously you're going to see a lot of tabs along the bottom as we go along so we colored these to kind of make make them um make them easier to for us to read so um this here um it's space standard calculation sheet that the state uses chuck i don't know if you i don't know if i don't see it but i haven't seen the change we're still looking at it you see oh you know what let me let me make sure i'm sharing the screen it might be the way i'm sharing it uh andrew yeah we're still in the 1a yeah let's see if i can um switch to these using zoom so forgive me here i'm just going to stop right i want to bring it up again and should it should be a tab instead of a window to switch between um applications you know right now i just see tiled view of everybody's faces now when you share chuck you have your entire screen and then as you click through your tongue that's the one i'm looking for yeah that's the one i'm looking for it's a terminology though there we go now we got it there we go thank you sorry about that um so this is the space standard calculation um that the state of connecticut uses we've turned it into our own uh has anybody seen this where before is this new to most people on the panel so what it is it's pretty straightforward at the top we have the grades to the left here they list the enrollment projection that's that eight year high enrollment for the school and so we have to find the range and then for the grades that the school is going to house and this one we highlight it so we make sure we get them right you can see that for uh pre-k through six uh we have to we have 120 square feet per student from uh pre-k through grade four and for five and six it's 152 square feet what we have to do is take those values and we enter them in these cells here down below can you enlarge that a little bit absolutely yeah yeah thanks a little better all right thank you i'm on a 27-inch screen so i do apologize if it's small um then we take the total of those numbers and we add them up and we divide it by the number of grades here seven and we get an average square foot per student in this case 129.14 and then we enter our eight year high enrollment which uh we're assuming is is five fifty and this is a test fit this didn't come from aluminum we were kind of doing a test fit uh in these cases and so um the math here is that 71 029 and that's that building area i was mentioning before when we do the budgets and this is this is our this is our budget i'm going to um so this is a square footage here um if i don't know if you can see my calculation but we basically link to that square footage multiply it by a five an extra five percent factor that i was mentioning before to give us a gross square foot because you can see here if you have roughly 70 74 580 and you subtract from 71 there's almost 3 500 square feet when you multiply that by 350 square but you're almost at a million dollars plus escalation so you can kind of see that math if you don't account for it you can have a million dollar bust here um so so that's how we get the the low end of the square footage on the high end we're taking that same number of the 71 029 we're just multiplying it by an extra 15 percent instead of five so that's that difference there on the 550 alone you can see the unit prices were we're covering and i'll just kind of scroll down here um you can see the math on a new construction we we assume uh some site work costs on a percentage based once we get more detail we'll fill in some of these other numbers but we we know by by history that's usually a percentage base works for us we account for construction this will be actually a 2023 in this case uh because we are we're carrying extra occurrences out about four years um because depending on when the application is done and when we get it completed the ffe um it's it's data it's furniture um mdf equipment switches and stuff like that to run your it also um playground equipment etc would be included architects fees you know architect and the design team to do it we assume a 7 value there in that case hazmat consultants just in case we have to do some environmental studies [Music] in multiple other cmts other professional fees and expenses and reimbursables materials testing and then down below like highlight in yellow that's that financing cost every district will finance a project differently um some just do the straight bonding costs some capitalize interest um that's where we need the town's input and then ultimately the owner's contingency so that kind of shows you how we kind of bake the cake here on a budget but going back to how do we get the variances in the going from say 70 4580 to 81 360.

yes he's moved up twice tonight already bray flat on the stomach can he get a reversal moran going for the pin trying to get both arms behind the back bray resisting heavily he's going for nelson contorting his arm illegal move all right so we got a quick reset here no points have been awarded yet and an eventful quite an eventful match between these two hadn't it it has been yes i would say that tanner thompson just dominated then the 192 fight between lucas and who was that earlier i don't know it was the foot to win versus greensburg 192. that was a pretty good one as well that was very good match bray trying to resist being thrown to the ground but he goes down anyhow can you get it looking to flip the kid nothing yet oh he's got it joey's got him in a box ray resisting the pin he's got him in a headlock oh he's got evan in the submission is evan gonna tap oh he gets out an unsuccessful submission [Music] oh he's getting him into something else here evan's still on bottom right he's just trying to last around without giving up any more points there we go call for a reset that's got to be good for evan not much action was going on there was it not really evan was in a bad spot though i will say that bray once again starting from the neutral position and quickly trying to stand up right now look almost flips can he resist being taken down it appears oh joey low on evan resists the pin goes to his stomach and there's the end of the period wow it's crazy evan was able to get out without giving up any points there just said evan's bleeding a little bit gonna have to take a quick break for that shout out to our cameraman for the night we've got lane sparks senior from greensburg on the boys basketball team and toby brogan pirates football quarterback also a senior and this match this could go to anybody right here again we're knotted up at five all for the individual score two announcers here tonight i'm peyton catherine with sam bauer and as we get back into this this is the third period of this match ray appears to be working him trying to get on top here can you get some points that even one point would be huge right now brace got him in a single leg so he stands up contouring in his leg to the point where it looks like it's not comfortable at all i've been about to take him up can you oh here we go miranda got a one leg take down almost no points awarded yet there's two points pinned down this could be it for waiting for points to be awarded here no nothing yet three points for joey that's not good bray down by five they're not changing basically the only way for bray to win right now can you do it though moran flips on top of him know joey takes a ten to five lead that's a big deficit to make up in one round or one period excuse me bray just giving it all he has tonight wow getting him in half nelson bray just never been one to give up and he's not gonna give up he's gonna push through everything he can and try to win this match this looks to be about it for evan 20 seconds left in this period again this is the third period which is the final not looking good for bray here and that's the end and that's it gray visibly disappointed with himself tough loss for him he had to move up weight classes for tonight that's always a tough move so can't blame him too [Applause] what do we have much 132 i'm not sure no one cares about us they don't give us again this is bringing you the 145 weight class jennings county is leading the match r.j barbarus here 15-6 on greensburg right now both wrestlers outside the outside the circle here we go again both wrestlers moving hands looking for good positioning quick move trying to get the front headlocks in right now grappling both wrestlers left arm on the left shoulder go oh into the ground by barbarous barbarous front headlock on merit still both move outside of the circle again both hands resting on the head here we go some more grappling going on while they're standing not much going on compared to the last match here not yet let's see if it picks up a little bit here both wrestlers just appear to be toying with each other at this point still zero to zero with about 20 seconds left in the first period greensburg really needs to swing preston on top oh almost gets it taken out gets him in a headlock gets the leg on top not rewarded any points barbarous with the reverse headlock on him looking to take him to the ground no pin yet top switches was able to get through no points awarded reversal greensburg on top here we go there's two points awarded at the end of the period that last 15 seconds was really something yeah i agree both both wrestlers really decide to go at each other there greensburg takes a 4-2 lead there yeah this could be really big if greensburg got got this match right here it would be huge for this again preston appears to be showing showing everything he has as he's on top again [Applause] looking for the reversal gets it he's on top no pin yet merritt still has him he's gonna have to get off his back pretty tight here almost has him on his back for back points but barbarous flips over barbus and use a reversal here can't get it almost oh he gets too late take down barbarus tries to escape but merritt just no points gets on him he's got both legs locked tightly he's not letting barbarous go anywhere here comes the reset once again our third reset of the match they get up and run and here we go again there's another reset it appears barbarous is just trying to run away from merritt he doesn't want the smoke here we go merritt takes him to the ground on top again going for the full nelson he's oh one arm he's got one he needs another barbarous looking for the there we go full nelson that's illegal cannot do that one point awarded to jennings county close match going here four to three lead for greensburg merritt just keeps relentlessly going at him here again i believe before that last reset if he would not have put him into the full nelson he he might have had some back points he would have got him on flip him over there he could have got some points there you're right here we go merritt being careful not to get both hands on the back oh reversal for barbarous maybe here we go not yet there we go he's gonna get it he's got him in an arm lock loses it going for the lock around the right leg through the left leg and at the end of the period green chooses the bottom to reset the new period merit must believe he can get back off the bottom here some roll check going on by the referee tonight barbarous wasn't sure how he was supposed to start here ref gave him a few pointers now he's ready here we go merritt stands up gets up two legs barbarous has merits legs pinned up pretty tightly here can you get him on his back he tries got him at the hips he's being careful not to let him flip into his back stand up back up back down once again one point wrestlers on their feet crowd getting a little energetic here reward at one point they're out marriage nothing called yet merits got him by the head here we go they're both out is something oh gets him back flips over oh he was able to force the points what a move [Applause] amazing two points to barbarous again we are nodded at five five one point one point awarded to merit here what a big point six 6'5 merit he's gonna have to get some more points in this match if he wants to help make up the deficit for greensburg 50 seconds left in this period merit retracts his legs so he cannot get his legs wrapped up by barbarus both wrestlers knees to the ground now they're pushed out of bounds outside reset getting quite loud [Applause] a lot of talk coming from players on both teams as well wrestlers on each team [Applause] goes for the leg merit on top barbarous with one leg merit trying to get him on the ground merrick swings him around stand up back down no points get some points flipped on his back recovered still no points wow what an end to the round there were no points there someone is not happy explanation coming from the referee here to jenny's county coach appears to not be happy what a win for greensburg there here we go 152 weight class jordan coulson against gavin bateman both wrestlers grappling at each other greensburg's still got to make up six point deficit right now coulson in a front headlock pulsar resisting the takedown by bateman here can he get something for himself no still no down what an excellent job in here resisting lakeshore abatements he's refusing it and he gets it gets him on the ground there's one point awarded to bateman i'm sorry two points jordan needs the reversal he's getting up back on his feet we appear to have a camera issue battery replacement both wrestlers outside the ring we're going to have to have a reset here coulson in the neutral position 48 seconds left in this period once it begins coulson's going to need to come up with some points here coulson recovers being thrown down coulson thrown to his stomach can he reverse on him locks both arms to resist one of his arms being pinned again this is bateman versus coulson to get that arm in there appears he's got coulson in he's got an arm around the right leg and an arm around the head coulson has been on the bottom for a big part of this round and that's the end red jennings county defers greensburg's choice on the reset it appears coulson has chosen the bottom again it's where he's been most of this match and it hasn't went the best to say the last of course he knows the sport better than we do so coulson almost no he's taken down is he going to get he's in a house batman going to get the pin coulson fighting to get out doing everything he can polson wriggling around trying to just going and that's a pit that's the pin another win for jennings county here a hard-fought match by coulson but he could not come up on top we got graves going in for greensburg here comes evan grace and tegan trotter the wrestler shake hands in the match begins into the first period hopefully throtter does not focus on graves weakness here which appears to be his left knee i have two taller wrestlers here than we've had the last few a lot of standing grappling going on jenkins county tries to go to the ground graves both wrestlers outside of the circle back to a reset here we go again both wrestlers moving around graves goes for the single leg you reach he's got him trotter is on top of him gonna take it right he was back graves gets him on his back we could have some action here there's two points for graves what a move big points for greensburg here as the team is down 21-9 here we go graves quick to try to get him on the ground they standing looking for both arms around him trotter breaks the grapple a lot of standing action going on in this match trotter goes for the takedown it appears both wrestlers are about there's two points two points for trotter that gives him a three to two lead on graves okay apparently we missed a point by trotter and it is 3-2 jennings county right now jennings county is winning the overall match 21-9 on greensburg here we go graves down in the neutral position loses his arm stabilization trotter trying to get him on his back trying his best to flip him over there he goes he gets his wish oh graves on top looking for the pin he's on top three four two points two points for graves what a good move at the end one second away from getting through oh he gets three points okay so three two graves and two to trotter should be knotted up at five all but it appears it's four five a little bit of problem with going along with the scoreboard here the wrath coming over to scores table trying to work out the score genius county coach walks over to the scores table coaches go back to their seats oh ref comes back once again here we go five all score is fixed oh oh well there it should be seven five in here for graves that's what greensburg coach complained going about the ref nicely wrestler's getting a little bit of a breather here sort this out before start of the second round there's another close match we've like the last few it appears the discretion has finally been worked out great seven five graves yes found a way to get a few points there trotter chooses the neutral position graves on top no points graves both arms wrapped around the race oh wrestlers outside of the mat again where you're going to have to reset the nice leg sweep by graves kim gray start off strong again goes for the leg instantly gets him on the ground here we go graves pushing his hardest spinning around both both wrestlers have arms around each other's legs fighting to get positions graves on bottom but it appears he's trying to work out a solution to this problem reverses and he's able to get on top now he is in a headlock trotter back on top it is now seven all trotter has been awarded two points graves trying to resist the headlock appears he gets a little bit of a cross face there awkward position for both wrestlers right here trotter going first ref getting low now trotter's on the ground with it he's back up no points awarded to either team as of when it was back on top almost side to side both wrestlers getting pretty close to stepping outside of the ring [Music] graves looking for some points here stomach facing the ground there we go got to move back in one point to graves i believe maybe not is he gonna call it nothing yet no points no points going for a reset both wrestlers were outside of the field of play grace starting in the neutral position spins around nothing yet graves trying not to go to his back graves has him on his back it appears there could be some points here there just two points awarded graves graves in a headlock flipped to his back on his side three or three points awarded to the graves two points award trotter 12-9 lead for graves here if graves can last five more seconds without getting pinned we're getting any more points against him and there we go could be good there we go graves quite the round quite the period quite the period by graves there wasn't it was that was nice graves chooses the bottom here smart move as he was awarded five points that last period from starting on the bottom he really got into him and let him have it there he knows where to get to work already in a already in a bad spot here here we go grace flips around trying to get out of the headlock graves gets back on top trump is going to need a rehearsal charlotte's is gonna need a reversal if he wants to do anything here here we go grace still still looking for some more points here trying his hardest trotter seems to be struggling just a bit here he might be a little bit winded graves hoping to stockpile the points for his team here we go about one minute and 10 seconds left in this period graves pushes his hand off his neck trotter's got graves graves has them on the ground this could be a pin no point never mind trotter arches is back and appears to get back on his hands in his knees grace trying to pull his legs out from under him so he can get the pin he's going to looking looking to push him on the ground again there he has it flat on his stomach looking for the chokehold [Applause] [Music] graves look to be in the much better position though graves if he can last 20 more seconds he will win this match right here be a big win for the pirates and we would only be down six points to jennings county right now [Music] graves appears he's gonna last seven six five four three two one there it is graves gets that match what a match by graves wasn't it you gotta give props to trotter two to not give up any more points there at the end that was pretty good the great great match great match by greg grace took the dub able to make up some points for greensburg here we go 170 weight class eli moore against owen bone steel eli working around trying to get great hand placement both wrestlers working at each other's heads right now more in bone steel more gets the take down gets them on the ground no points awarded on bottom here we go there are two points for more here we go more looking for great hand placement here trying to push his head down working around him very nicely tonight [Applause] [Music] more gets out of his leg hold more been on top this this whole minute here [Applause] moore trying to get him flat on the stomach here he goes trying to pull his leg out from under him more coming out extremely aggressive in the first period moore deciding to go all out here at the start gets him over points maybe oh point awarded a bone steal quick cleanup here yes on a quick little break bone steel appears to have some blood on his forehead our athletic trainer kevin fields has been put to good work today he's had to clean up two two instances where players have been bleeding what's up cleaning up the blood on the mat right now for those of you just tuning in um sam bauer and we have peyton katrin alongside me here eli moore is up 2-1 in his individual match as we speak with 46 seconds left in the first period again this is the 170 weight class um jennings county is up 21 to 12 as we speak as a team greensburg has been struggling a little bit tonight but proved to be pretty powerful in the last few weight classes oh here we go eli moore going back at him bone steel trying to fight his way through this moore has him on the ground seven bray on the mic here we got eli in a front head walk kid's got a single leg on him eli just needs to push on his hips and post his head dumb there he goes good to have someone that knows what's actually going on here is it cross facing here get a cross face in there we go more kid's getting deep on the single more looking for good arm placement here [Music] [Applause] trying to get his arm around get the joke hold him forward you got a good cross facing on him that's time there's the end of the period all right i'll let peyton take back over more deciding if he wants to defer moore takes a neutral position that's been a common theme here amongst the greensburg crowd we appear to do better out of the neutral position more right away into some trouble bone steel's on top of them more on his hands and knees bone stealing was completely more looking for the reverse head here almost had nothing touching the ground he was completely on eli's back there moore is still up 2-1 no other points have been awarded eli lost his headgear bone steel has forced the headgear off of moore here he's gonna have to get that back on once they take a reset it appears there's not much going on right now i could see a reset coming here soon i'm not even sure who's in the worst position okay more replacing his head gear got a lot of hair to fit underneath that yeah he sure does surprised his dad's letting him grow it out like that mr moore just got a haircut today i know eli couldn't get one like you cut g rocking the fresh fade showing up to the wrestling match tonight couldn't get eli to get one though again more still up two to one having trouble with the headgear here and this is jennings county versus greensburg on gtv by greensburg high school led by mr moore we are in the wonderful field house tonight surprised we weren't in the main gym that didn't make a lot of sense to me a lot more room to space out but that's okay again due to kovad we have limited crowd here tonight had to get some bleachers in here we do have a nice spacious field house here with three cords that we can space everyone out on though this is oh here we go back at it here we go back to the action more in the neutral position bone steel on top here we go can morgan off to a quick start more tries to reverse him bone steel gets them on the ground more switches around eli's got his leg nope both wrestlers locked up like a bridge here we go more pushing up against them trying to get the reversal trying to get a takedown here can he get it moore gets his leg grabbed by bone steel trying to push him to the ground trying to get his stomach flat for the pin here we go still looks like he's about to lose control [Music] [Applause] bone steel just keeping that those legs straight trying to resist anything he can here comes more pushing mess out of the ring bones one point awarded to more here we go both wrestlers starting in the top position bone steel looking for the early headlock here both wrestlers faces push against each other standing action going on right now here we go one two three get some back points can you get some back points it appears he's going to get at least two here two or three i don't know he might get a pin there's a pig let's go here we go more with a big pin that's greensburg's second pin tonight if i'm correct good job by eli moore to really get greensburg some points up on the scoreboard tonight wow quick turn of action right there here we go 182 weight class coming up 182 weight class coming up dancing for the single leg take down right away a lot of action on him oh no we must reset here wow quick move by dance it came out like here we go dance plumbing around a little bit quick action at the end of that last fight or match in the beginning of this one dance in short 182 pound weight class dance pushes him away fakes to the ground grabs his left arm right hand around the right neck oh almost had him almost flipped some he's got him in a single leg kid tries to [Applause] this has been the most action we've seen all night dan's really putting on a show for this crowd just likes to be dominating his opponent right now looking at that's all the confidence in the world right now goes for the double leg got one three four five can he get three back points can he get a pin no points awarded yet both wrestlers three points three points awarded them dance wow greensburg again right in this match 21 to 18 jennings county alex takes a quick 5-0 lead in the first period dance really showing his confidence here tonight coming out strong starts in the upright position goes down gets him on the ground real quickly [Applause] trying to flip him to his back for those back points count of three there's two awarded shorts out wow what a round for them dominated him last two rounds were amazing more and dance really showing what greensburg's all about here and putting in the work got that confidence up for the home team here greensboro's making quite the comeback and they took a quick lead 24-21 and here comes a forfeit for greensburg greensburg six points and there's a big lead 30 to 21 for greensburg really turned her things around right here gabe jones and max brown gabe jones for greensburg max brown for jennings county gabe jones smacks the round to start what's he going for hard telling here two big wrestlers going at each other let's see if we can keep the action game jones appears to be on the defensive right now taken down flips onto his stomach there's two points awarded to jennings county out of bounds here comes the reset alex starts on bottom or gabe excuse me jones on the stomach once again trying to fight back to the upright position or get a reversal for two points here gabe's still on bottom both wrestlers in the upright position jones tries to get him down both wrestlers outside of the mat here comes a reset control of this fight here goes jones both arms around the shoulders of brown jones going for the right leg it was a thought he gets taken down to the ground there's two points awarded to brown brown looks have full control of this match there's a pin that's it that's it for greensburg that's it for jones again both wrestlers shaking hands there goes jenny's county and it's up to robert eiser jennings county comes back not the lead yet but they're almost there 30 to 27 greensburg here we go both wrestlers weighing in at 285 this is the highest weight class we have tonight it is this means this is greensburg's final match for tonight and the deciding match for the whole meet this is not it for tonight is this the highest weight class we have going greensburg up 30 to 27.

do we have a motion to accept the minutes so moved this is chris second this is anne okay all those in favor um can we have comments oh sorry yep uh so yes i figured you did um so uh this is on page i guess seven under the bhs update um i was reading along everything's in third person mr misali does this did that and then the fourth paragraph of the bh bhs update says finally i still receive many positive emails um so uh if we could change that to a third person narrative i think that would be more appropriate for the board's minutes um but coming across that um it made me reflect on uh concern i've had with the minutes lately um let me first say that i really appreciate having um the extensive commentary that is shared by the staff reproduced in the minutes and the way they are i think it's very helpful um what i've been wondering about is that since this practice started and i think it was roughly coincidental with when kovid hit there's been much less documentation of any board comments in response to the staff comments and i know in in most cases at least some board members have questions or comments and sometimes discussion ensues from those uh i for one would appreciate seeing some documentation of that in the minutes because otherwise it could create the impression to someone who's just reviewing the minutes that the board is simply sitting here being spoken to by the staff and not really taking a part in or asking for clarification or ensuring that we understand you know what we are being told so some reflection of the back and forth would be appreciated taken we'll work on that thank you sure any other comments or discussion okay um all those in favor of proving the minutes hi hi hi any opposed and i'm abstaining because i wasn't there okay um board of education committee reports finance committee um well finance committee met this morning and i will report that the budget is 30 expended compared to last year which was 32 percent expended and special education is an ever-changing landscape uh can i invite superintendent hecht to review the transfers and the budget absolutely thank you and um so what you see here before you this evening and transfers for the most part are just reclassifications uh from one uh category to another for various things that we've had to purchase uh the studiolive digital mixer at the high school uh covering the online subscriptions that we need particularly in our current colvid world for music first and sound trap uh reclass to cover the cost of powerschool enrollment express we had a failure of the freezer in family and consumer science at the high school so we needed to purchase a freezer so we moved um monies around to be able to do that and then the last piece is simply the transfer that the board approved at the last meeting you'll see it says science teachers it's just because that's the area in the um salaries budget where that portion came out of um as well as some savings on a custodial position and that is it for that piece and so we will uh go on if we could to the overall um budget status um as ann shared we are 30 expended we're continuing to um project full expenditure currently in regular instruction uh inst we've currently spent 49 of that budget on student support services uh our total uh there is 30 expended um and i appreciate the arrow i had eye surgery a week ago and and seeing is a real um issue so i'm sorry if in the end you only see my glasses tonight apologize for that as ann shared special education is a changing landscape we may have some placement changes that may affect the budget but we continue to monitor that component next page thank you with 30 percent uh expended in administration support and central services 30 in operations and 30 salaries and wages and currently our projected uh balance uh in salaries and wages is at 274 000 we still have as i've shared previously unfilled positions um not for lack of continuing to try on our part um to fill those positions i do think it's potentially possible that um should this new federal relief package happened and an additional 300 um happens for people who are on unemployment it may continue to be difficult for us um to find people to fill these positions i guess time will tell on that piece and on the final page you can see there that we are thirty percent expended at this time with a projected board balance of two hundred seventy four thousand eight hundred and twenty nine dollars so we will need a motion please to approve the transfers i'd like to make a motion to approve the transfers this is ben thank you ben you will second that thank you ria any discussion hearing none um all those in favor aye aye any opposed abstentions unanimously carried thank you i have one other thing to report under finance if i could um we made a request for additional coronavirus relief funds for ppe cleaning health and safety supplies uh beyond what the district already received for of a hundred and thirty three thousand eight hundred and twenty six dollars um i wasn't sure if this would happen um i thank casal for her great work in putting this all together um and in fact we were um notified today that we've been awarded an additional forty six thousand eight hundred and forty nine dollars and sixty one cents and you see before you the list of uh various components uh that went in uh to that amount and these are all things that we have ordered paid for and already have uh in our hands because that was another component of these monies so um i'm appreciative that the state uh took our request i believe that we were only one to make a an additional request beyond the grant process so again thank you to cassah for her great work so i just want to make you all aware of that okay personnel committee oh excuse me kristen one question where did this money come from this is um federal funds that were given to the state of connecticut called the coronavirus uh relief funds you may recall uh ria yes so that's where so they actually get uh you requested it from the state and the state increased the the amount correct because what happened was you know the state received the money from the feds then they made the determination how it was going to be doled out right and a number a number of districts had to return monies that they were allotted because they weren't going to have the product in hand by december 30th because that was one of the qualifiers of the money okay okay so i think once that was released right it opened up some additional funds and i thought well can't hurt to ask right that's great thank you that's wonderful thank you that is great news um personnel personnel met and uh beyond that it was about upcoming negotiations and we have nothing else to report at this time okay all right bhs student representatives emily my card schedule is going well all staff and students are doing their part to help stay socially distant and safe the fall sports teams are having post-season zoom meetings that are taking place within the next week to wrap up the season the ciac has postponed winter sports because of the uprising corona cases and they're now scheduled to start on january 19th thank you emily and the freshman class took their psjts last week and the seniors also handed in their capstone research rough draft paper last week and drama club has started a few weeks ago and they're working virtually on a radio broadcast of a christmas carol very cool all right thank you and as always if you want to go goodbye have fun thank you thank you jacob um community meeting reports does anyone have anything to share very quiet uh superintendent of schools in the sect over here i appreciate it so i'd like to turn it over um for our cte and unified arts presentation please we put many safety precautions in place for students and staff we marked our hallways to keep students to one side is the sound working well did you hear the music i heard about safety precautions sorry my fault in place for students and staff we marked our hallways to keep students to one side we spread out eating spaces and included the use of our gymnasium for lunch we maximized the spacing between student desks in all of our classrooms some of our areas presented a bit more of a challenge these areas are music art and our career technical areas which include business culinary and tech ed [Music] do so we have um we're following the state guidelines in addendum seven which mandate that we have to be spread out six feet apart and then actually nine feet uh front to back so i've got the first row of students here that you know they're spaced six feet apart and then the next row there's nine feet in between so there's that and then we also can only sing for a maximum of 30 minutes indoors so with choir we do all of our singing at the end of the period so that we can just do it for the last 30 minutes of class and then everybody leaves and the air can clear and recirculate our current safety regulations for instrumental music here in bolton follow the state and national guidelines in the band room you can see that we have moved everything into a 6x9 grid including percussion instruments in order to actually play our instruments students have to follow a few guidelines number one we wear masks while we're playing the masks have been modified by adding a slit in them so that the mouthpieces can fit into the mask so the students wear the masks while playing number two all of the instruments have bell covers on them the bell covers include two layers of black material and within them there's a layer of merv 13 fabric so it filters down to an appropriate micron level to mitigate the spread of any potential virus number three we've moved our rehearsals into the commons because of spacing requirements in order to play inside students must be at least 12 feet apart from each other we also have time requirements or time limitations on our rehearsal so we're allowed to play for 30 minutes at a time and after that we need to provide for a 20-minute rest or air recycle period and then you can begin to play again our one-to-one chromebook program has worked out very well this fall however some of our courses still require the use of personal computers with specific software to support individual courses our maintenance team was able to fabricate plywood barriers to keep our children safe as they worked at these computers our staff was also trained to use the correct sanitizer and procedures to make sure that keyboards and mice are sanitized between students use our art room presented some additional challenges as well we fabricated barriers in those spaces but our instructors also made use of a slightly different strategy to support students during the pandemic the majority of materials that students have are at home students have been [Music] inspired to put together their own home studios school has provided them with individual kits of materials in which to put into these studios and long-term projects are completed at home so one obviously our main concern at this point is making sure that the students are safe and so one of the things that we do uh we always focus on safety and sanitation uh but we're focusing uh even more so uh during our pandemic so students will clean and sanitize areas uh that they use before and afterwards uh in addition we have special markers so that we could have the students spaced out uh ideally six feet uh so that students were are not in direct contact with each other and lastly we're using uh we use gloves uh and so more or less we are doing things contactless in terms of in terms of food preparation in technology education students are able to utilize various programs in any given class for example students can use programs like chief architect in class or google sketchup and other cad programs from [Music] home in computer aid design or cad class students were able to download a free student version of solidworks to run at home on their own pc if a student wasn't able to run solidworks on their computer programs like onshape are available to run on chromebook in order to achieve the same results [Music] thank you mr miceli are there any questions for mr miceli or miss malinowski or ms johnson we just wanted to give you a sense of just you know what has had to happen right to make the changes necessary to really make these courses work at the high school level for sure all right i'm going to turn it over to mr rosiers for our music department replacement cycle katie good evening good evening thanks for having me can you guys hear me okay sure can thank you great thanks um so i'm here representing the music department dan ayer jason beat myself and mary dembraskas and we provide an instrument replacement cycle every year it's generally a three year plan outlining our priorities for instrument purchases and replacements we reevaluate and do our best to communicate the needs based on enrollment and student needs and as the previous video alluded to we are certainly in a state of flux right now um within our programs so this was actually really a tough year um and i we just don't feel that we're necessarily able to predict two to three years ahead responsibly so we've done the best that we can right now and we'll update um you know whenever we can so um you'll see that for the 201 2021 to 2022 school year this is bcs our best estimate is that a double french horn would increase access as well as a new set of orchestral bells and that total comes to five thousand dollars so that's for the center school but you'll see for 2022 to 2023 in the following year again simply because we lost a lot of numbers in our programs and we're not sure what's going on it just feels irresponsible to us to say we need this when we don't know what students will have so for the high school similar except next year what what we would ask for would either be another like a practice xylophone which is a smaller mallet instrument that students could take home so what we have now should we be in this situation again is what i'm trying to say should we be in a situation and hopefully not but that's what that is talking about it's an instrument that somebody could play at home as opposed to the little bell sets that some students do or do not have and or we could use some cortales that's a percussion instrument that feels like a luxury if i'm going to be honest and based on the numbers of students again that might change so sadly i don't have many more answers than that other than district totals i believe is the next slide should we follow that plan for the 2021-2022 school year that would cost approximately six thousand dollars thank you katie i i appreciate the responsible uh response about two and three years out from now because we just to your point and we're just gonna have to work on on sort of a rebuild for a lot of things uh as a result of the pandemic for sure are there questions for katie from board members i understand i'm sorry sue go ahead chris thank you uh you mentioned that i think you mentioned that the the number of students participating in in band has decreased do you have a sense of whether that is in part because students are unable to access the instruments and if they're fully remote they don't can't afford their own or no we are fortunate here in part because of this replacement cycle that we have a healthy inventory of instruments that we lend out to students so we don't have any students who are asking us for instruments and we can't provide them we work with the families in the districts to do that the the numbers dropping have been more at the high school to my knowledge and i think uh part of it or most of it i should say is because the reality is that participating in a musical ensemble is a social event and i don't mean that in a social have a party way but it is making music with people and the technology just doesn't allow us to do that in a remote setting it has been incredible to make music with students in person despite being 12 feet apart with masks on and bell covers and we can't do that in a remote environment and some students were very honest in communicating with i'll speak for myself with me and saying uh mrs d we love band but this is not the band that we signed up for it's not a personal thing but i can go take a x y and z course here that transfers a little bit better um so of course i'm going to support those students in in that in that endeavor this year it doesn't make it any easier for for us music people but the students um have all been very respectful and the students that we have have just simply been amazing i i will add that the you know as mrs d and mr ayer and the rest of the team i think most people appreciate the crazy amount of work it takes to to put on a performance and then um watching them both uh here you know at the high school assembling through crazy technological macgyverisms to try to have something has i mean it's been heartwarming and and i really feel bad for them both as well um but let me spin that in a positive and say check out the bolton high school youtube channel posted today um is a a piece by our choir and you'll see it's it's magnificent but it's not the same thing and i know that mrs d is currently working on um something that we will post down the road when it's complete and it will be wonderful but it isn't the same and i'm going to just jump in a little bit and some of the great things that people might see that other places put out it takes days upon days upon days and that's not really what our program is about so all the great work that the music department is doing is just an incredible lift as it is and we really are very grateful for all of that katie i appreciate that it does take hours and hours and my current editing stake it it to do eight measures of music it's averaging me about two and a half hours per period um so that's about five hours for the two classes and that's only eight measures so slowly but surely and and this is with everyone right one step in front of each other we're just we're moving forward and and the kids have been really amazing as well as the support um mr mitelli and his technological help with me trying to figure out how to edit audio and video and um and just the support in general well and i want to echo the sentiments i mean they the lift you guys know right it's been heavy for everyone but particularly in music just even trying as we try to figure out like katie was all over it from the beginning as was dan like we got we're going to figure out a way to do this it wasn't we can't we're going to figure out a way to do it and and they continue to you know really think outside the box and and their efforts have been nothing short of herculean so to that point thank you thank you kristen but your your support and the board support to allow us to do it safely so that the students are safe and that we feel safe in doing our jobs that was a financial investment on your end and you have had our backs and uh that's that's just been one thing that we have not had to worry about so thank you i appreciate you saying that thank you so i know you had some chris where your question answered in the are there things that we could be well are there things that you could be doing more if if you had more funds or i mean are there other things that the board could be investing in that would make life easier i really don't think so at this point unless you're going to hardwire every student's computer to some technological whatever whatever is out there you have purchased a software that allows us to create it also allows us to record and perform and come together that way and put more options into our students hands you've you've we have we have what's out there um and what we can use it's it's just it's not the same it's still awesome and we're finding really great things i mean the positive we're finding things that like oh we want to do this forever even in real world like pull from here pull from this and use this they're amazing things um i appreciate that that thought chris but unless we've got some super computer happening somewhere in town and the other towns we serve it's not going to happen thank you anybody else uh this is re i just like to say that i did listen to that youtube uh chorus or it was great and i and i was thinking to myself boy that must be really hard to do and i can see you know how much time you've invested in this and i i think you're doing a great job and i i think that i know you don't feel that you can do as much as you would like but i think the thing everybody's learning things that they probably wouldn't have learned under normal circumstances so when this is over i think it will just be a step above where we were because we had to thank for everything thank you thank you guys thank you katie appreciate it you don't have to stick around kiddo but thank you very much all right um moving on to uh bps learning updates um as you may have seen um i sent out a communication this afternoon to families and to staff as everybody knows the number of coveted cases infection rate and hospitalizations in connecticut and in our area are on the rise i don't know if you saw today's update but our uh current uh rate in bolton is 29.2 percent up a great deal from last week um we were yellow last week in a sea of red and we are part of the sea of red at this point um although our current mitigation strategies and short-term closures have proven effective within our schools we continue to face increasing staffing challenges in maintaining in-person learning although we have not had any positive staff or student coveted cases in the last couple of weeks um our administrators and school nurses are spending considerable energy on contact tracing and identifying close contacts due to community spread and finding coverage for staff members who are currently awaiting test results or will have to quarantine as a result of being notified as a close contact just in the last 24 hours we have experienced a significant uptick in staffing challenges and i would um associate that with what i would call the thanksgiving boomerang effect at this point i had hoped we were gonna get beyond it unscathed but the last 36 hours or so have proven that that is not the case so in an effort to be proactive and after consulting with both rob miller eastern highlands health district director and jim rupert bolton's emergency management director the bolton public schools will be moving to remote learning for all staff and students for three days leading up to winter break which would be monday december 21st through the half day on wednesday the 23rd that wednesday was already scheduled to be a remote day and then remote learning will resume for all students and staff again on monday january 4th through friday january 8th and i will share with you um administrators can attest to this i have been back and forth on um that piece of it and had settled on last night that we were going to come back to school on january 4th until today happened to be quite frank and the the constant barrage boomerang effect that occurred today um with our staffing so i think that that is uh proactively in our best interest in the hopes that i can get everybody back on january 11th safely we will be returning in our current model on january 11 should we be able to do so which is our k5 students with four days a week on monday tuesday thursdays and fridays in person and six to 12 remaining in hybrid with everybody being remote on wednesdays our goal still is to get our 6 to twelve students back to the four days uh like our k5 students are that continues to remain be our goal um and families who have opted for full-time distance learning will also be allowed uh to continue that from home teachers will be teaching virtually on the remote days and all students will be logging in remotely to their classes every day are there any questions for me on that piece i can't see everybody so you'll have to holler out ben i have a question please um so i i hosted a legislative event today with my nonprofit and um among the things that that they talked about when we had the the senate majority leader and the appropriations committee chairperson um you know was that the connecticut education association had somewhere in the range of like 14 or 000 signatures that um had teachers really wanting to uh push this even through the end of january is there any consideration to extending it beyond this you know ben i think we're gonna have to see what the numbers bear right at that point in time and quite frankly whether or not we have the staff to open back up for full in person you know i will tell you that our staff has been nothing short of amazing um they have done everything that that they need to do to ensure the mitigation strategies the board has been super supportive our administrators have been amazing our nurses have been amazing but the data is really going to drive where we stand come that point in in mid-january to be honest it's a great question i'm actually really even happy to see that we've done it even to this extent so um yeah thank you thank you anybody else kristen it's ria i have just one quick question uh when some when you say that teachers uh you're having trouble with staffing so if if they're uh remote if they're working on remote learning are the teachers able to teach because they're just being quarantined or are are some teachers too sick to to teach and uh um what happens are do you have enough substitutes to handle the remote learning or is that becoming a problem well so today we were at the break rhea um we have some staff who are too sick to teach remotely which is why we have our our daily subs you know in our building so that they can be in the room um with you know the lessons sometimes they might be tuning in to another class in that grade level but the substitutes there to supervise in other situations where we have staff that have to quarantine because they've been identified as a close contact but they themselves are not sick but they have to be home for 14 days and so they are teaching remotely we also have some staff and the law allows for this up until the end of this calendar year um if they have child care issues because the district in which they live has shut down and they have small children and do not have care for their children they are allowed to um be home and they are allowed to be home and not teach and they're allowed or if they choose to and can manage to teach remotely and and you know we can support that we do that but i mean at this point based on what was happening today i'm going to be really honest i i am i'm keeping my fingers crossed that we can stay open and not have to go remote between now and next friday i think it's potentially very likely that administrators are going to be in classrooms trying to keep us open to be honest all right thank you thank you thank you uh kristen can i just clarify something um i thought i'd heard you say earlier that we hadn't had any new student or staff cases of covid but then i thought i just heard you say that we have teachers who are out sick with covet can you clarify with us yes sorry we have teachers who are currently out sick who have covered like symptoms who are going for tests or who have just had a test but we're not getting test results back for five to eight days at this point so yeah i have no cases to report right now but i guess i would offer we have a lot in the hopper right now thank you for clarifying sure sorry i was not clear all right i am going to turn it over to mr giard for a bcs update please good evening everybody um life at bcs continues to be very busy as superintendent hector everybody has alluded to we just finished successfully administering the psat 8 9 tuesday and today for the 8th graders and we had actually many students who were fully remote coming to the school they haven't we haven't seen them all year and they came in to take the psat which was great to see uh we had a great turnout november 23rd and 24th at parent-teacher conferences and for the teachers they did a tremendous job of setting up the technology to host those meetings that each other and making sure parents weren't waiting and there was a little bit of a gap between meetings and of course there's always a little bit of hiccups and parents were extremely flexible with those and a couple had to be rescheduled but for the most part everything was very successful great turnout um and something along those lines could be used in the future i mean it doesn't replace in person but it could be something that we utilize down the road if we needed to incorporate more meetings a quick update on the buses the school bus is the bus company has been doing a very nice job of being on time um helping to ensure that students are staying in their seats wearing their masks and listening to the bus drivers the students have been amazing i think i can count on one i've seen a student without a mask when they got to school and that was because they forgot and there was almost tears in her eyes and they were like wait i'll go home and get it i'm like no no you're good we have some extras so the kids have been amazing very very conscientious about it we continue to have more elementary students running the bus than middle school and give you a little bit of data here uh i kind of averaged the numbers the bus company's been giving the superintendent and myself a bus count every every week and there's an average of 16 students on the bus in the morning if i took all the buses and i averaged the numbers it was 6 30 in the morning and there's about 20 students going home in the afternoon and then i took a look to see what is the most number of students i've seen on a bus and it's been 30 at any given time 30's been the most that's been on a bus at any given time for the bcs runs uh as we continue to look uh so that's that's some good news and if you have any other questions about the buses that can answer those but the buses are going very well we're continuing to look for some positivity and excitement to bring into the school and mrs safran did a very nice job recently working with the pbis committee uh setting up some spirit days for holiday break and you've probably seen your children walking out the door with some crazy hair because we had crazy hair day recently uh flannel and stripes day uh bolton blue day we actually have uh pajama day for ccmc tomorrow so the students have really been enjoying the spirit days and students at home can part can uh participate in that as well so it's been it's been a nice addition i want to give a special thank you to the bolton booster club who reached out uh recently and said that they wanted to buy a small toy for every student at bcs because i know that we're struggling a little bit with recess it's not the same type of recess we've always had students aren't able to share equipment they're not able to use the playscape so it's very limited but they purchased either a hacky sac a yoyo and a rubik's cube cube for every student at bcs that is very generous and it came in within days and the kids have been ecstatic we offered them the option to pick and the students gave us uh the numbers and then they were just really amazing um and i know superintendent heck is going to talk a little bit more about that donation a little bit later in the meeting last but not least and you've heard a couple of times about the teachers which is that they're they're really putting on the face they're doing an amazing job of keeping upbeat and bringing the excitement and positivity each day to the classroom in their online lessons and that positive energy really is contagious and the students are feeding off of it we're actually seeing we've done some home visits recently and doing some other things and we're seeing we're getting some kids involved into school who who haven't been and we're struggling with this model of learning so the teachers have done an amazing job and overall things are going well like it's a lot of work and everything isn't perfect and we're learning as we go on some things but everything is going well and mrs safran is going to give an update on remote learners for bcs all right good evening everybody um so looking at our numbers as of monday we have 91 students that are remote and that is now 19 of our population it is up from last month it kind of just is an ever-changing number so if you look at it going across you'll see that there was no change in grades k through three but we've had um one or two students from fourth fifth sixth seventh and eighth grade uh move uh to the remote so it's uh again as mrs nanoski often reminds us that uh us one of our students makes a change a lot in our percentages but um just you can see there that it was really in the um upper grades and uh families have been great they've been really reflecting they write me um lengthy emails with their rationales and reason why but they're just you know being you know cautious like many so um but we're still the teachers are really working hard to reach out to those families and work with those students to make sure that we're doing our best to provide them with everything that they we can do to help them have a great learning opportunity thank you any questions uh for mr giardo safran okay hearing none like to turn over to mr vaseli for an update for bolton high school please uh so similarly um numbers creeping up at the high school and as uh ms zafran said you know i get the emails um really caring families trying to make good decisions um always following the guidelines and sometimes you know even making more conservative decisions than the guidelines require um but doing a nice job of keeping in touch with us so we know um you know who's in and who's out so we're up to just to tick over 20 percent with 53 of our 261 students if you're really watching the numbers very carefully you there has been a an enrollment change by a couple of students in and out over the months as well which also kind of plays with the percentages but overall um most of the cohorts anyway you look at them are up slightly um in other news at bolton high school um you know as you know bolton athletes do pay a pay to play fee and those fees are used to cover the cost of officials and with the fall season being cancelled our excuse me shortened there were fewer competitions than was originally planned for so we did return uh 20 to accounts of all of those athletes and in a similar way uh as my students in their report earlier mentioned the cia has delayed any possible start and that's a possible start not a start on the 19th that's just the earliest they'll start we had already collected money for winter pay to play and all those checks have been returned with just the uncertainty we didn't we didn't hold families monies uh and lastly um as mr giard mentioned at the center school we also had a very successful psat program our administration uh here i'd like to thank school counselor mrs destiny and our guidance department uh for the smooth psat administration at both schools um and she along with mrs jones our administrative assistant mr ginsanti our other counselor uh really made sure things went went super smoothly the bhs faculty proctored the test it was one of the smoothest administrations i've seen amazing attendance a couple of students could not join us because of quarantining issues and they have begged for makeup and the college board actually granted us permission which is kind of out of the norm to allow that so we will we'll be real close to 100 participation which is which is great and i also really want to um make a public thank you to m j our bus company for their assistance um so our administration here was on december 2nd which is a wednesday when we're typically fully remote uh but they provided transportation not just for our boltman bolton freshman but for the ninth graders from hartford and columbia as well so all the students were able to join us thank you um mr g.r do you also want to comment about pay-to-play as well please i don't think we had that in there we should have sure um so we follow a similar model where we sent the school messenger out to all the families of fall sports and again with winter sports saying that they had the option of proportion of the pay-to-play fee either rolling it into an export season um or getting a refund so the parents have been very appreciative and communicating with our office and we've cut checks to the families who wanted it back and we've rolled it for those that wanted it rolled to the next season so yeah it's worked out well thank you are there questions for mr miceli uh very quickly if i might uh this is chris um i i believe i saw something in the news either today or yesterday from the governor's office announcing a new initiative to challenge high schools to increase the number of students who complete the the fafsa student aid application each year have you seen that and will bolton be doing anything to you know to participate or try to encourage more of our students great question i i had heard about that and i honestly um didn't reflect upon it much because really it is the goal of our counselors every year to try to get a hundred percent uh participation uh mr jan santi is uh spearheading our senior uh team this year um he's already met with all of the seniors you know once through um and i know he he he does a lot of things to support the the fafsa we sometimes have a financial person who comes in and does things and obviously that's not working for us this year um so he's done much more personal approach um and and really i'm kind of going above and beyond for those families that are struggling it it is a tricky thing so for the board members obviously mr dave you know but uh for the board members who don't know what we're talking about it's the it's the federal government forum it's it's nothing the su schools can complete themselves it it involves the financial information from families and you know traditionally in my you know my my tenure here at the high school we do sometimes find families that become very uncomfortable when you want to help and you want to talk about it because you know it involves their tax returns and their bank accounts and those kinds of things and and that's of course not our goal is to get into that but you know we're we're trying to say well this is what you need to gather and this is how the form is filled out so it's a it's a balance um but his personal approach this year um with the members of the class of uh is is going very well thank you i'd like to just add to that a little bit joe you may not know this on the side but uh mr giancante and i have had a conversation since last year when the state actually provided some fafsa information on the ed site secure website and so he and i have been just like how do i use that data to make sure i stay on top of this so he's already been on top of that since last year thank you any other questions okay hearing none thank you all very much nice job uh unfinished business i do not believe we have any this evening and madam chair if it's okay we'll move on to new business go for it thanks all right we took care of our field trip uh we're taking a look now at the 2021-2022 school calendar uh we will need action on this this evening in the past we did two reads not certain why that ever was the case and i did check with the board's attorney and that is not a requirement so um are there any uh do we have the calendar to put up or no no okay are there any questions or concerns or could we have a motion to approve the calendar i'll make a motion to approve the calendar um just so that we can have a discussion about it great thanks do we have a second thanks ben discussion uh yeah so uh in looking over it i noticed that there is a six-week period from the end of april vacation until memorial day weekend where the only gap or break is a half day on may 6th that's the the longest stretch in the whole school year um i was wondering if if there might be any benefit in moving one of the two march early release days to say may 27th um just so there's a bit more of a breakup in when students have time off and also possibly giving families a bit of a head start on the holiday weekend yeah so part of the reason why we don't we didn't move that march day to the may is because we still have a fair amount of pd and work that needs to be done in march as we work towards finishing teachers goals as well as pd and so if we back-ended that the end of may to sort of give families a little bit of a longer weekend or get a hit jump start on memorial day weekend to be honest i it would sort of be like we'd be sitting there looking at each other wondering what we're going to do with that time that afternoon so that was that's the rationale why um so just to make you aware of that okay no i thank you for the explanation certainly reasonable yeah no problem any other questions comments um all those in favor of a proven calendar i any opposed abstentions unanimously approved okay great thank you and the next one is the 2021-2022 board of education meeting calendar again i'm sorry i don't i don't have that up there but um it is it was in your packets um this is something apparently that has to be done by january 1st and i just learned that so that's why we're doing it tonight okay do i have a motion to accept the board of ed meeting schedule yeah i'd like to make a motion to accept the schedule i'll second who seconded that please anne thank you sorry i couldn't hear you any discussion comments okay all those in favor say aye aye aye any opposed abstentions unanimously approved and now we are on to building committee for bcf roof and ac project thank you so um we need to the board needs to appoint a building committee for the bcs uh roof project uh at this point so that we can continue moving along with that project that's one of the requirements that the state has for us to move along with this project do we have any volunteers can can we simply appoint the the members of the building and grounds committee yes that seems appropriate are they willing maybe um ben andrew and scott um to do it um scott in particular because of his experience he's not on the buildings and grounds committee anymore but because of his particular area of expertise and the fact um i think you know he could be a great asset to um both andrew ben and john casal and i scott is on the buildings no i think it's ben on buildings and grounds andrew you and i think i don't know you could be right i don't know i think it's scott and ben buildings and grounds and me and scott on kappa oh got it okay maybe that's what yeah okay you're right so i they are all three of you willing to do that before we tell you you have to i am yes i think i think that's who's appropriate okay do we have to do a vote on that you do please okay do i have a motion to have ben anduin scott be on the building committee for the bcf roof and ac project oh and got it i'll second it okay any discussion comments okay all those in favor aye aye any opposed abstentions unanimously okay and now we're on to policies chris you want to take that one it's uh short and sweet this week um first read of policy 6161.21 fees fines and chain and charges um as you hopefully saw there's only one um relatively small although i think important change which is to add fees for sports to the list of fees that can be assessed to students by the administration for whatever reason uh fees for sports that the pay-to-play was not ever included in our policy covering fees um i happened to notice that a while back and brought it to superintendent hex attention she spoke to the board attorney about it and they agreed that it certainly would not harm or be harmful in any way to include that and it would help to clarify things so that is why we brought that to you this evening thank you and this is just a first read so we're not voting correct correct okay any questions or comments on that okay donation okay so um as mr giard shared with you uh the booster club generously donated uh 358 dollars and 54 cents uh for individual recess toys for every student in grades pre-k through eight and we are most appreciative that was a great idea on their part and we greatly appreciate their donation uh it's certainly going to serve our students very well and again we're just so thankful i would also like to share with the board that a bolton high school graduate approached mr miceli last spring about uh supporting a program to update the brandy street signs for both bolton high school and the board of education offices after careful research and design we are moving forward with this project this alumni has coordinated with a few other graduates and a donation of 23 150 is being made to the bolton public schools to cover the entire cost of the fabrication and installation of the new signs we are so incredibly appreciative for the various very generous donation from our amazing bolton alumni awesome okay um future business i think chris had something chris did you have something yeah sorry i couldn't unmute in time uh i i was just wondering are we allowed to know who made the donation or is it anonymous um the alumni has asked to remain anonymous which is why i did not announce the person's name very good thank you but we will be um sending letters to both the booster club and our alumni thanking them and certainly so that the alumni can take full advantage of the you know the tax piece on it as well but we are so appreciative of uh the support our groups are giving in our alumni to our schools for sure can you tell us the year they graduated so we can narrow it down i will not do that okay we're ready to move on to future business anything i don't believe so unless somebody has something all right now we adjourn to go to executive session and invite superintendent heck to join us did i do that right yep to attend the superintendent's mid-year evaluation review of goals good thank you do i have a motion to adjourn so moved this is chris all those in favor all right abstentions oh sorry um opposed sorry absentian's okay moving to executive session thank you the recording has stopped good night everybody i'll see you in executive session good night happy holidays all thank you to administrators very much

um it's simply the same uh the same spreadsheet as we noted before um except we're multiplying the 129.4 times 600 that gives you 77.46 and again similar math at the top for um for the square footage so and then all the math again kind of works its way down and so on and so forth for for those did that um apologies did that answer that question of how they kind of range there yes and that'll that'll help uh guiding us through the or at least for me the rest of the projects we'll see tonight so thank you because it'll be very similar through all the scenarios so it's kind of good to walk through that and understand you know how do you come to these numbers you know and there is a formula and there's some you know there's some logic the renovation for the high school just for that one that's the existing size of the school based upon what they call the ed050 that's the what's filed with the state of connecticut for the size of the school based upon your enrollment um your space standard is below that so we wouldn't see a need or a way to justify additions there at least at first glance so we we would assume i think it's around 88 it's just below that so you assume the existing building would be renovated as it is and again the budgets are grown they're they're they're they're developed similarly for the high school with you know some assumptions on that let's see whether any other okay make it bigger um spreadsheet you don't have the excel spreadsheet we can certainly we can certainly send somebody to our our budgetary um files are a bit proprietary um we'd ask that they we do send them to you for that any other questions on that one as we move forward yeah we have faith and then uh ann okay yeah i'm myself okay mine are just kind of going forward questions and they're you know i'm assuming i mean i know there's a big variation but that's that's a very good question and and and then you know certainly um chai man we we put these in as placeholders now um assuming a million and a half to two and a half million per year um in these and we're still refining these spreadsheets um they are definitely in draft form um in this model um and and part of that just to some background some of the members when we were developing these and we're still very early we're like hey listen we want to see the whole the full picture we were only talking about the first project for a while so in order to develop a model to show the full picture we kind of put these in this placeholders these may vary in order to really um we take a lot from our facilities counterparts vin and his staff on their program but we have also in other scenarios done a full what they call facilities condition assessment it's a really detailed assessment walking through looking at all the mechanicals and truly identifying uh outdated equipment those that are coming to the end of their useful life and putting estimates on what those might be based upon priorities um that's not something that we've been engaged to do here um we could but with the timing um we're not at this moment okay what i would add to that is you know i think you have to look at these numbers as just rough order of magnitude if we were to go in and and do some real capital improvements to in this case doolittle highland norton and then dodd um you know that would take care of roofs it would take care of the window projects but it wouldn't be a renovate as new and getting a 20-year you know life out of you know out of the components of the building so they as chuck is saying you know to get those numbers a lot more precise would take work but i think it's a good range it's between 15 and 25 million on on the smaller schools and you know 30 to 45 million at dodd it's we could dictate how much of that we're going to spend but that's that's you know that's about what we're talking about just to do some of the basics and the buildings that we've been putting off over the years over the next 10 years so you know you said i know that most of this is non-reimbursable but you said that the roofs windows would be so can you give us an estimate of what the percentage of that 15 to 25 might we might get funding from the state for i know it's peanuts but yeah so i i don't have any hard numbers that we did spreadsheets so roof on um on that that building would probably and i'm guesstimating here um this always gets us in trouble but if we were to do a project on that build i'm guessing two to two and a half million maybe three million for that project given the size of it uh multiply that by say 0.4 because there's some ineligibles so you know um you know so just to say three million times point for what 1.2 million if i got my numbers right uh and reimbursement for that windows would be harder to have to really do a take off i'd be really thrown out a wag on that one there might be some code upgrades if you elected to do that i think they might be reimbursing on some security upgrades so say if you did some hardening of your entries i think they might be participating in those too okay so it's it's a it's it's uh it's definitely on the lower end um yeah of those values okay and um when we look at the range for the cost of new of the cost of the project so 74 to 81 and i'm looking actually at the enrollment but the cost themselves um should we aim high and come in under budget is there is is there because you know 10 million dollars is a lot of money sure it sure is yeah um really um this is our when we're doing our first pass and we start talking about budgets we start with a range and then as some of these options come to fruition we'll do what we call the probable the actual budget whatever you think it's going to be but in order to do that in in and hone that in um what we recommend and that's part of the phase three of our work would be okay if the new elementary school is selected and the town picks a site for example we would recommend doing a couple things is some preliminary siteboards geotechnical borings so that we can determine is a rock is there ledge is there unsuitable materials we would do a phase one environmental site assessment that's a historical review of the site um was there a use as a farm where there's polluted soils herbicides pesticides that we would have to account for uh in there we'd want to look at some wetlands as well if there's any wetlands we have to account for just to make sure we want to look for budget busters um you know it's all even and it's a decent site we you know without any concerns you might have an endangered species too in that phase one it'll look for that as well um archaeological sites uh in the phase one or if in a case of a renovation project we would want to do a preliminary hazardous materials assessment for um asbestos pcbs um lead paint stuff like that because we've known projects where they didn't do that assessment and account for it in the budget and it's it's it's caused heartache and projects as i'm sure you can imagine okay thank you you're welcome and a lot of it is also um the dependent upon the final educational specification that would have a program and that would tell us where that square footage is as well okay ann yeah quick question hopefully um so do both scenarios one and one b have um darcy pre-k programs going to highland and how big does that make thailand how large is highland how large is it with the added um pre-k oh so um we're assuming in these scenarios that with the building of a larger elementary school that we would we provide some relief in the space in there so coming from darcy obviously they have to do a little kindergarten so that those that component would go um back to doolittle and with some redistricting um and i'd have to look i think the we're assuming it's primarily the vk um and so i'm looking here's our projections um here's darcy so pre-k you're work there's an assumption of 105 students in the pre-k and i think is those are those half-day programs um or full day for the pre-k that was a full day well that um so i think typically you know just looking at the size and how many classrooms i think maybe is it 12 all the 15 a reasonable arrangement for your programs for for jeff um for your classrooms you don't go much more above that do you for pre-k yeah i think we would you know i'm not i can't i don't want to answer the question on pre-k i know the average elementary right now is about 18.

awarded to rowlett four one eiser you must think his eyes are getting a little tired right now because he just he just let him get i'm wondering how hard it is to see out of that mask yeah i know that could be a tough job right there yeah adjusting it it's got to be bothering him a little bit not letting raleigh do anything here he goes roulette appears to be going for the lower part of the body it seems that's what he's been trying to go for this whole match between these two eyes right arm wrapped around the head gets him down to the ground swings around him two more points awarded to eiser eiser looking to get him flat either flipped around on his back but recovers quickly two points to raleigh two points awarded to rowlett a little bit of a mistake by eiser there destroy coming down to the wire right here [Applause] this is coming down to the end here so 38 seconds left in the second period out of three [Applause] roulette on top of eiser eiser trying to stand up eiser gets up one point rewarded eiser seven to three izer [Applause] here we go eiser working once again to get him down on the ground gets roulette down on the ground flips around to his back i think two more points two more points to either he's got quite the cushion going for himself now nine to three lead through jennings county over there you might slowly be losing hope here we go we have one more period left it's gonna have to be a big period for raleigh this is one of the first matches we've seen in a while that has gone to three periods we had three pins in a row two by greensburg one by jennings county eiser working around the upper half right now working around the head trying to get some hand placement both wrestlers pushing mightily against each other [Applause] here we go eiser trying to push his head down eyes are trying to prevent the headlock here both wrestlers appear very fatigued not much is happening right now which you can't blame them eiser is on top this match if he just holds out and doesn't let him get any points greensburg will win this match tonight as we mentioned brings him to the down looks around on him he's looking to take the lead and run away with it right here he's he's doing a good job tonight eddie payton oh eyes are on top once again 30 seconds [Music] here we go eyes are on top i think geyser's gonna take it not a lot either really showing what he can do out here as a freshman i mean in one of the toughest weight classes he's really showing out tonight he really is [Music] as long as he doesn't go in his back i'd say it's we're pretty good here that's the last chance there is for a pin he's looking to just hold this out for the rest of the round he's going to hold out and that's it and there's the win for eiser uh my commentator and i made a mistake and we thought that would be the match but it turns out we do have three more left [Applause] the lower weight classes coming in we're at 106 right now tristan smith and tyler mart mark sherry mark sherry i believe tyler mark sherry and tristan smith tristan smith of greensburg issue going on with the scoreboard you have to take a minute oh jinx county wrestlers getting it from his coach right now [Applause] greensburg on top of marksbury we butchered that last name apologize for that the b on her she kind of looks like an h right here here we go smith looking to take him down grabbing his arm looking for the looking for the pin here smith flipped onto his back flips back over very quickly what a good move by smith prevents the back points that marx berry could have gotten marksbury back on top of smith smith struggling [Applause] smith trying to stand up if he can stand up he might get a point here he's trying to get out of this hold here we go both wrestlers have arms around each other's legs ooh marksberry left leg getting twisted here we go he's able to stand up smith trying to keep his legs straight they got each other's legs smith brings uh marx berry's left leg to the ground smith's on bottom got that left leg twisted up that's uncomfortable gets it out can smith flip marks barry to his back smith waiting for some points to be awarded here here goes smith not yet smith trying to flip him to his back marksbury prevents it smith pushing his head straight into the ground and a period and it is 2-0 smith smith chooses neutral position on the bottom here we go second period about to be underway here we go second period underway smith flips around real quick still spinning and doing twirls marshbury on his back can smith get a reversal here that'd be a big smith switches smith back on top here we go there's two points for smith what a move by smith wasn't it yeah that was right smith pushing his head into the ground once again trying to prevent him from moving any further he needs to get that leg pulled out just a little bit so we can flatten marks barry out for the pin it appears mark ferris flips no he goes back smith prevents him smith up 4-0 still room to come back from marksbury smith giving it all he has trying to pull that right leg of marks berry out at about the one minute mark in the second period marksbury flips over smith flips over once again gets back on top of him smith trying to prevent himself from falling on his back here we go smith tight arm lock back here half nelson can you get the arm around the neck for the headlock here he goes he's got the headlock in what can you do right here smith showing what he can do no part of his body on the ground he gets flipped not under his back though he's still neutral on his side smith has him locked up pretty tightly here marksberry trying to figure out what to do here marksbury struggling smith grabs a hold of the arm goes through the armbar around the neck gets him into choke hold on the ground smith trying to prevent himself from falling on his back doing a great job smith really is going out tonight smith in a front headlock and a period one point one point awarded to marksbury if smith can just hold out for another two minutes this last period that'll give greensburg an even bigger league greensburg up 34-27 to jennings county here we go start smith flips around once again as he did last time when he started in that position he grabbed mark's bare leg put flat on the stomach here smith trying to resist being pinned can he reverse and get two points smith flat on the stomach now not a good sign he's in a tough spot right here smith in a very tough spot going for the right leg of marksbury smith trying to reverse on him smith once again down getting his head pushed into the ground here it's been on the bottom for all of this round it's not looking good you have to come up with some big reversal or something here only holding a three-point lead that he could lose that easily both wrestlers grappled around each other smith and marksbury tangled up march barry goes for the goes for the backswing goes for the backpack [Applause] and there's one point green illegal headlock 5-1 smith from greensburg mark sperry from jennings county has one point smith has five adding cushion to his lead right now here we go smith once again starting from the bottom position marksbury appears to be trying to pin him down marksberry on top still as he has been for pretty much all of this round here we go 5-1 smith still nothing no points have been awarded smith's got to get off the bottom we've got about 10 seconds left been around smith just trying to stay upright right now [Applause] if he can hold out for one more second greenspur's gonna win this match right here and they win smith what an excellent job tonight [Applause] really showed what he has what an excellent match by smith adam underhill gets a forfeit here another win for the pirates looks like they're gonna get the win of the meet here i don't know how easy it's gonna be for jennings coming to make a comeback oh are we done this might be it this was
