now it's 500 000 if i recall from from the report there uh so what is bleeding look like how how much bigger is this going to get no just to be clear i know in the in the monthly report in the finance report i had indicated it was 500 000 was the run rate and with the mitigation you know i'm projecting that will be 300 000 short by year end oh i'm sorry so it remains it's remained steady exactly from the last report okay exactly gotcha uh my mistake okay so mitigation strategies work we're good you know and so we're trying to make good on it it's what we do and so you think um that we have uh sufficient uh money in the budget to compensate for that is that that's been your position yes okay and again the reason we get there is because we've got this 40 cap on non you know payroll expenditures you know so we're just going to keep it there so there's a there's a sacrifice that's being made in other line items but that's how we built you know that's how we balance our budget every year right okay thank you um are there are there um any other questions on this report or in the medical benefit uh report more of a command very quick uh you know listen vincent and really jeff you're the entire team you know i i'm sure i speak for all board members we certainly appreciative of the efforts and sometimes the hurdles you have to jump through to make budgets work in the normal list of times right so it's not lost on us that you know again the public doesn't get to see our you know detailed finance report the board receives but it does outline some very detailed mitigation strategies and steps so um you know i have confidence i think we all do i know we all do and that vinson will help us manage through this as the chief operating officer but you know i i feel like you know how many more rabbits do you have left to pull out of wherever you're pulling out of that large hat that you're using because you know as things get tighter um and went to a 40 uh hold back rate you know i what is what is not getting done that shouldn't get done we're not going to buy that's tonight but maybe for the budget process i i'll ask that when we which we'll talk about later for 21 22 if we can at least point out missed opportunities or things that were put on hold or uh any effects that i might have had within cps i'm withholding 40 percent this year and i think last year around his time worth holding what uh there abouts because of different so at some point there's there's some some effect um and i'm not sure what that is yet so i don't know how much how many more years as a school district would continue to hold back in our budget for things that we've got to get done so anyway i'm not putting more work on you you usually cover this in the budget process but i think for the board it'd be a good discussion topic to see what the impact could be if we keep doing this that's it i'm sorry to ramble on but that's all i had okay i believe that ends the finance report thank you mr chairman sorry everyone so that was our little call on our stocking right for bro hopefully that's that's that's that's it right the only call that's our christmas that's our christmas party there you go there's your there's your bonus is that call for us or for the council i think for everyone exactly yeah it's planning to go around apparently uh digress but we gotta smile sometimes um no need to apologize vincent we know you're doing you know best you can uh moving on uh personnel committee mr white uh thank you tony so the personnel committee met uh december 16th primarily to discuss the superintendent superintendent's annual goals there is typically no vote that happens on this i this is my first year involved in this and my preference would be for a vote but i just don't think this is a year where that would be good to have it my um you know the superintendent uh he had he had some ideas on goals uh diversity equity and inclusion communication strategic plan i just shared my own personal thoughts which is probably the single most important thing for me for his goal this year is equity across years there are so many difficulties uh across everything in the school system everything in the you know the country the state uh that and everything is a time suck and so to simply uh i think for me the goal is to get as close to 100 learning in this year for as many students as possible as we would have had say in a normal year there's just so many there's so many different things that pop up um in general i mean i think that uh i i think that things are under the circumstances i feel like the school system on balance including the superintendent everyone is doing a great job trying to trying really hard to make things happen um and that's it again there was there was no vote that we cast on it and i don't think we're planning on casting any vote for the full board or anything like that but that's it i don't know if the superintendent or anybody else has any questions or comments from the superintendent no if i can add quickly to tim uh so yeah so this is tim mentioned and you know i i'm realizing um you know i i sometimes take for granted that you know everybody watching knows exactly what we do how we do and why we do certain things so i'm glad tim i'm glad you you mentioned about how we do the goals so just very quickly you know at the beginning of the school year our board of ed works with superintendent solon to set his goals for the school year and we usually do that in september and we started that process of september there was a personal community i think october there was a personal community back then we talked about you know just ideas and uh you know by and large the committee was agreeing with it and uh and you know we tend to follow up you know by now use november just say hey yep these ghosts don't make sense and these are we're going to measure you on as a board you know come in the school year and um it's certainly the number one goal has been you know lead us through kuvit kuvit kovet sorry it's been a long week um i don't know what coup it is but uh leaders through covet and uh and there's some things along with that that hasn't changed and uh jeff still has goals it is by this does not mean that we're not going to measure him on anything but um you know given where we are and where we need to be you know that is a primary focus the school district is to continue delivering through kovid and i think some of the things that we've learned um during this is going to help immensely go in the next year and there's some positive things that have evolved out of this that weren't goals um that i think you know probably could be uh moving forward and i think jeff you know talk about some of those positives later so i don't want the public thinking that we're not measuring jeff we will uh it's just that uh again there's there's things that the board would like to do in an enormous at times and jeff also has a series of things he like to do the strategic plan is is one of them that's still going to happen uh starting in the spring it's not postponed but we're just being realistic and the back burner as we sort of uh are more reactionary to emergency situations as we go forward um but i think the one thing and jeff i don't know if you're going to speak to this tonight um what is the the strategic plan um the last one what because i think it's what it's 10 years old and we're going to be getting a new one i mean the last one was essentially transformational to how we conduct business and how we uh teach our children uh and that's probably one of the uh more important things that we're going to be doing uh in the coming year and um i was just wondering uh if you're if you have at least some high level ideas as to uh what's sort of uh coming down the pike as to what we're going to be looking at because i mean that you know we yesterday and i think we ushered in ruler and social emotional learning those are two huge concepts uh that didn't exist before you know and so that was you know obviously not tonight but i think that uh you know soon uh at least i would like to to see what you know what's what we're gonna be looking at uh for the next strategic plan uh if anything yeah sure so uh really quickly i could tell you you know 2010 we had a community process where we developed i think it's 17 goals um and you know by the time i became superintendent in 2015 nobody could tell you any of the 17.

since the beginning since last march not one child between 5 and 17. new jersey doh statistics therefore the board of education doesn't have to uh protect the kids from covet 19 their immune system takes care of that so let's protect the teachers i can understand that completely and since june of course we know that the medical community has now treatments for cobit 19.

any questions on the first reading of these board policies seeing them had entertained a motion to approve the first reading of these board policies as presented i'll make that question motion by john long second bye second by greg meyer before we take a vote kim i just want to reiterate that this is the first reading and we have an opportunity to read through these and ask and make any changes for the second reading second hand did you wrote for me please kim scott middle camp yes craig o'connor lisa schumacher yes karen anderson yes tammy hines yes john long yes greg meyer yes okay great question carries on to item e return to school plan did you want to watch yes we've talked and talked and looked at the key thing that we're trying to do here is to get a more normal school day for our students want them eight for three and when i say eight to three that's in very general terms it'll actually be you know 7 15 something to whatever you know but i just could call it eight to three for general purposes this plan will allow k-5 be here every day from eight to three monday through thursday friday we'd like it to be eight to twelve thirty okay um we are going to have to hire some remote teachers who will be certified staff members will be our employees they'll be working in the grade level teams to ensure that the instruction is right there with everybody else six through twelve getting out of the hybrid the two things that you really mentioned to us often when um you know when you speak with parents is that um they want their kids in school every day they want them to attend school every day and they want them to go to school every day they also would like them to have morning and afternoon positions now there's two ways to go about this the first one is just to let everybody in to which the contact tracing in the health department is not wise the other way is this creative way where we'll have half of our schedule in the morning from eight to like around 11.

um it's just nobody could memorize 17 focal areas you can't you know have 17 things you're focused on now over a 10-year window at that time it made absolute sense but things have evolved so quickly that in 2015 we as a board and i asked that we focus it down we focus on complex thinking and social emotional learning and then you know of course like you know adam was saying the focus became more on ruler and mindfulness and sel strategies as well as complex thinking in the classroom and you know everybody who at least works for us and most people you know many people outside of that can tell you complex thinking and social emotional learning are what we focus on as we um go back and revisit that uh you know i've started reviewing what our kids need you know what they'll need for for 2050 you know way down the road when we started it's it's hard to believe you know when i started that process in 2015 we were asking ourselves what do kids need in 2030 and it's like that seems forever off that sounds like a science fiction number back then um that's actually when our entering kindergarteners were going to graduate basically uh in that process so you know we have to be thinking about well how do we prepare our students to be successful by the time they end this uh 12-13 year journey with us and so you know that's what we're looking at now and again when it's easier and safer for people to do so uh we look forward to engaging the community back in that conversation that you know in 2015 i met with business people parents at each of the pto meetings our staff and so we're looking forward to that process again catherine uh yeah yes um i guess now i have a couple of questions one is so to the extent that and maybe i misunderstood what the purpose of last night's meeting was but it seems to me that any sort of discussions regarding the superintendent's goals should be by the board as a whole and not just a three-member committee so that's one thing and i assume we're not talking about shifting goals mid-year um so i just want to clarify that and make sure that i understand yeah i can ask for that it is the personnel committee's prerogative to set the superintendent's goals and bring them to the full board for discussion and that's what happened that started back in october as we do every year with the personnel committee and when a personnel committee has some draft goals that's right for the board we tend to do a personnel committee meeting as a whole talk about it give feedback and we don't normally vote on it but we gain consensus that these are things that we're going to measure superintendent by that hasn't changed what we haven't done this year is really change the goals that jeff set out back in september that we all have that were written up from the personnel committee back in october uh at that meeting at the time the personnel community wanted to follow up with jeff to make sure there were any changes or anything that he wanted to add to it but so that was last night's meeting was hey were there any changes to the goals the answer is no we didn't anything new um nor would we of course not the board's approval but you know we i think tim made the point that as much as some of the community members like to add more goals it doesn't make sense for this year um we're not going to try to over assign things to them they have already committed to so no there's nothing abnormal about it well okay uh i'm not sure i i you know i'm here i hear what you're saying about the prerogative of the personnel committee but um i don't agree i know this is julian i don't agree with that the board as a whole should not um be engaged in all of the conversations and and so but that's a different thing we don't have to i don't want to go down that rabbit hole right now um but that feels to me like something that is not the prerogative of one small committee that's all it is this is the committee's mission to help i don't uh simple i know and the committee is open to all board able to you members watch the meetings you could read the meeting and not actually i'm saying you everybody on the board could i have attended last night's meeting there was an executive session but the meeting in september was live viewed the minutes we all have the write-up from jeff and his draft we all have so we can talk about september but but that's when this started and again these are all available to us you want to have if you think the board should have a meeting of the whole soon to talk about his goals we can do that no i'm not saying that i'm just saying if that's what the topic of the meeting is it should be a meeting of the whole now i'm sorry if i missed out on the fact that i could get to the meeting point of order here for two things number one is read our policy the personnel committee's goal the personal models committee's role is to start foster set his goals the book just like policy sends a draft to for the board just like finance sends a budget to the board personnel do the same thing this is no different than do every year the only time this we haven't done this year is bring a whole plate to the board but nothing's changed that's the point uh okay i hear what you're saying you're like you're missing out because we didn't have that committee of the whole talk about so i'm sorry that is the committee's role we are following the process i am more than happy to ask the personal committee to have a hole to close loop on this but nothing's changed well then we don't need to have it if nothing's changed i i'm not trying to add meetings to anyone's list of things to do um but if you're telling me that i was a i was invited to that executive committee executive meeting executive session meeting sorry last night i wasn't i i no you weren't invited because it was a personal community meeting but well but you just said that the board again i'm gonna call point of order here's chairman okay the september meeting everybody had an invite to it you'd have to attend well you have to understand this is when the process started as we do every year we have that meeting september the personnel committee started talking about goals of superintendent superintendent submitted his draft goals to the committee we all have that we talked about in some details we gave just the way to come back to the committee winning modifications if you're anything the committee mayor has had time to think about it we did that last night we win the executive session to talk about it nothing came out of it there was no vote there was nothing to move forward to a full board of ed because nothing's changed now if something was coming out of the meeting last night absolutely the next step will be is the board as a whole gets an opportunity to talk about those even though we don't vote on them even though there's no binding vote to make things happen every year we tend to go through talk about them as a group but that's the committee's work is to bring something for the board to review and that's all we're doing so nothing was done that was uh done behind the scenes that the board didn't know about we have his draft goals going back to september they have not changed that meeting september was televised we all have the meeting minutes for it we could have watched it we could have given feedback to the committee since then you know some members did you were left out of the process we're just not to the point where we're going to have a board meeting at a whole to review final goals nothing's changed i'm happy to do that not for taking another meeting but you know let's do this uh jeff let's draw no no no i i no no no no no no no no you're touching something let's jeff i know you sent out draft calls to the group back in i'm sorry october would you mind resending out what we discussed uh then to the board so we have it if there's any questions we you know if we need to meet again about it we're happy to do that yeah absolutely okay so my second thing we haven't changed them fine perfect great um i have a one other thing on the strategic goals is that a personnel committee function or is that a board as the whole function that seems like that comes to the board just straight from the superintendent the strategic plan yeah yeah the strategic goal the ten year yeah yeah i don't know which strategic but right in all fairness um nobody but me was here when that started 10 years ago yeah so that board member knows what usually happens so we can talk about it um now quickly if you like i don't have a problem with that i'm just wondering what the process is you know annually we adopt goals as a board but you know this this process we would engage in this process um in 20 well it turned into 2016 by the time i brought fourth scl and in complex thinking the board adopted them at that time and reaffirmed those goals annually since it the conclusion of the process you know you guys need to be at the seat of that at the beginning of the the goal setting process at the conclusion of the process you will formally adopt those gold and we'll continue to obviously talk about it throughout the process like we did back in 2015-16 but you'll formally adopt them the entire board that's not done in personnel no right i don't i just don't know that that would be any committee that would be yeah you know that's i you know i have no idea but jeff you're going to talk a little bit about that yeah when we get there yeah yeah that the term committee throws a lot of things off but it's um let jeff talk about it in this update because uh that's fine we did talk a little bit about when how we can start that so i think so a good question and catherine i'm not trying to argue it i i feel bad because i don't want you feeling like you or anybody is left out it's just um you know we i'm certainly happy again we'll look up the board members if we want to have a uh personal community whole just to revisit the goals what they were again and you know that's fine they haven't changed but i don't want people thinking that we're trying to bypass anybody we're not talking about that [Music] i know you're always engaged in in the goal setting and you know again me if we need to so thank you fair enough thank you very much mr chair all right tim we're still in personnel um committee updates do you have anything else tim no that was that was it any other questions for more members on the personnel update good thank you uh moving on policy uh mr grippo planning planning it's planning so i'll just if it's okay chairman i'll just i'll take that on so um instead of rehashing the planning committee meeting we had our last planning committee meeting was a meeting of the whole held on december the 10th whereas we were all at that meeting coliers was there who is our owner's rep for the school modernization project that was the only item that was on the agenda um so in the spirit of time i'm going to kind of leave it at that as my planning committee meeting update um for those of you that are watching at home i encourage you to watch that meeting whereas colliers went through each and every one of the multiple options there's uh 10 borderline 12 options as of the date of that meeting so that meeting again was held on the 10th is available on youtube and then also it's very important the school modernization committee has a link on the town's website i'm in the left-hand bar if you scroll all the way down to the bottom the school modernization can be all the documents meeting minutes agendas and links are there so for those of you watching at home i encourage you to take a look at that information as it's populated onto this website and then also there's a facebook page that is the school cheshire school modernization committee facebook page um so like that share that it's updated regularly and on there there's also the links to the presentations there's links to the coliers reports the enrollment study that myelona mcbroom did for our eight-year enrollment projections which is helping to guide the decisions that the committee is making so with that i think i have a question from mr grippo thank you i was just a comment um i asked i asked enough questions at that planning meeting um uh for uh smc i believe you can go to cheshire channel 14 uh for youtube uh and i think the s uh yeah smc meetings are chances channel 14 and the planning meeting would be on the i think it's cheshire isn't it do we it's like the board of education channel or cheshire cheshire public schools youtube youtube.com slash church or public schools yeah there we go all very stimulating meetings uh that smc lasted i think three hours which was yeah we've had a couple meetings this week but you know it's all beneficial we have a lot to talk about and we have a small window of time to talk about everything um and to come up with some decisions so i'll touch on a little bit more in my update on school modernization the two meetings that we had later on in our agenda this evening so there's any other questions i'd be happy to answer your planning committee seniors are and just for record andrew i'll just test and see if you're paying attention earlier so well it was a hard act to follow but i thought there was time to move on uh might be a hard head to follow but i'm not sure about a heart act but thank you uh policy mr grippo thank you chairman mr chairman um okay for policy um uh we uh we had a a good meeting it was only an hour um they're um i i have yet to uh match a policy meeting that we used to have under uh chairman body where we'd go uh three hours sometimes with our in-depth uh policy discussions but needless to say we haven't gotten there yet but we might uh for our meeting that we had on december 1st we examined a a new title ix policy or revision of a total night policy that was 37 pages in length dr solin gave us a high level overview of that policy where we had a a nice discussion about it again this this meeting was uh televising is on youtube for review if you'd like to hear our discussion about that um we also reviewed a policy on alcohol drugs and tobacco where let's see it was employees are prohibited from possessing or using any product with canna cannabidiol cannabidoidal well cbd products uh whether derived from hamper hemp or cannabis um and uh there's still some legal uh questions about uh that policy so um dr sullins going to advise our attorneys on that um so moving on um one of the so the title ix policy is very important um we made a motion to move that to a first reading we did that just so it's out for public view it's very long and highly detailed and we uh uh if i recall um uh dr solon that uh we still need some uh guidance from our attorneys on that policy uh but it is up for uh first uh a first reading uh just so that uh all of you and and the public can can review it if if you wish to because i think we are going to have to spend a significant time on that uh policy uh at least perhaps our next meeting um uh so we had uh moved that policy forward for first reading let me see we'll get to the motions here um and we is that the only one uh we also moved let's see is it four thousand is that the same one yeah oh okay all right so yeah right that was uh what student and in staff policy around federal law right um and then we moved for a second reading bylaw 93-21 time place notification electronic uh board of education meetings uh that's the uh uh i guess a we'll call it a a a formality uh policy that allows us that at least puts on our books that we have a policy that that coincides with the governor's executive order allowing us to have these types of meetings we discussed that once the executive order ends that uh we will unless legislation changes um we will no longer be able to hold meetings like this um uh ver at least on in a virtual format like this we would still be able to we'll have those hopefully new systems in place where it's more like the old days where you have the cameras in the room and you can watch it live stream uh on youtube but it's you know obviously a little different um and so while we move that to a second rating and the um there's another policy that we discussed which was 93 25.43 attendance at meetings via electronic communications now this one would allow us to have a form of electronic communications with the public whereby a member could not attend a meeting that they could um uh participate virtually um we uh there it's it's right now the policy i believe is only seven or eight paragraphs uh which means a lot of detail could be uh filled in on that and um i just wanted to bring it to the boards that or the um policy committee wanted to bring it to the board's attention um for review i don't know uh dr sullin if uh the entire board has a copy of that one and if they don't if you could perhaps send that out so that they could at least take a look at it for comment um because i i believe that there is some desire to uh to have this policy in place so that we could at least be somewhat prepared for a uh we'll call it a um the second decade of the 21st century uh whereby maybe we could have some more virtual participation um because uh we all we all agree that this type of meeting is is very advantageous uh not only uh for us uh but also for the public uh whereby it's easily recorded and easily reviewed for the public's digestion so um i would ask that when that pile draft policy is emailed to you that you all take a look and if you have any comments or suggestions on it or even if you have an appetite for it um to to let me know so that we can add those comments to our review at our next policy meeting um uh lastly um we uh the scope we had for the last several meetings we've been talking about employee status notification uh we all agreed i don't think there was a formal vote or anything but we all verbally agreed that um the information that uh dr schuler is now providing us uh with that is uh anonymized information about uh the comings and goings of of staff uh was uh adequate um for uh for public information and that um we appreciated that information um and lastly uh dr solon provided us with an update on the high school coaching certification reports back in september we were informed of the new procedures that were going to be in place um between uh dr gad and mr trafone um on verifying certifying that all coaches are are certified properly certified to coach um uh coaches and assistant coaches uh to to coach our uh student athletes um the uh i believe the uh was it winter the winter and spring let me see winter we reviewed the winter right i have the fall one available it's actually on my desk right now i was going to share it at tonight's meeting but i didn't make it to the office today but i will send it to the board uh first time fantastic and uh from the looks of it it looks like the uh this new um reporting system is is working well so i'm uh happy to report that is there uh i don't have any emotions here so i think that ends my report uh yes mr white yeah i just wanted i just wanted uh clarity on this i thought you'd said a few minutes ago the comings and goings of staff would be provided in the superintendent's report in an anonymized fashion so just so what i recalled and i may be misremembering this but what i recalled was uh the superintendent superintendent's report would include people who come and go which typically is going to be in june or september probably who actually arrive and leave the school system and then there'd be an anonymized report about suspensions if any did i get that i could have it wrong i'm not sure that's what i thought it would be yeah the suspension part you know typically we wouldn't send an anonymized suspension report [Music] you know that we can clarify again with floyd but the comings and goings were every month so for this month we have uh two resignations and two you know positions filled so um but the the you know we can revisit the discipline piece okay so the when people come and go that's that's anonymous well we just have to we i mean i was going to touch on it in my report but we have a resignation two teacher resignations one at dodd and um one at norton and we've hired interim teachers to fill those positions through the remainder of the year okay one one was health the other was uh um assistant principal position the person took an existing principle position okay according to the minutes um we uh we came to agreement on the um uh what was the terminology here teacher hires resignations or terminations uh and nothing about discipline so we we i think we left the discipline off uh for now right okay all right thank you mr chairman yeah three questions uh going back to the first reading uh 4 000.1 regarding personnel certified non-certified title ix the the policy that's attached um says that it's a some cable overhead although i know that cave uh helps our policy development but there's a new sample policy to consider um is very lengthy has this policy gone through our legal counsel has it been cleaned refined to a point where the policy has actually discussed it and gotten it to a point for a first reading was it doesn't sound like it's ready for a first reading but we have a list of written yeah it's a good question the cabe legal department has reviewed it to comply with law it and i've read the law it's a it looks like what's in the policy that's not from the law is like notes that this for example the person who investigates the title ix claim if you will cannot be the person who makes the decision about whether or not there was a violation so there's a note in there there's like a reminder so the question that i think adam brought up in our policy committee meeting was he just wanted to uh identify between the law and the cave policy what parts of this did uh you know is not verbatim from the law in his cave britain and so you know i i mentioned floyd earlier for other people that are watching he's really the pivot person on the law firm that we use and not uh connecticut association of boards of ed so his firm is reviewing the the law uh against the cave policy as well just as a double check so that's we're only in the first reading phase of it and still certainly able to make modifications as things come along um but it's you know i think the committee just felt like it was okay to move forward for now we're not adopting this but this is pretty solid okay thank you jeff the second one is uh you know anna you mentioned about the certification tracking verification process um i just want to be clear it's not just for coaches or assistant coaches it's you know again i i think the committee is not mistaken read the cic manual some of the sections that talks about who exactly is required to have permits and uh that's any coach in any capacity that is in a coaching situation volunteer paid otherwise right so it's it's not just a head coach and an assistant coach it's any coach and the other dovetail to that is it's not just the permits but it's also the um uh education certificate part that i guess is done with sdc so the point is we're abiding by those guidelines correct yes okay we are and and there was no necessary board bylaw policy change on this correct it's more administration process because just i know this has been a topic that's been out there i even read the editorial today and the herald on this and there's still a misperception on what the board's role is in these matters but just so folks understand there is no border that policy change that policy committee felt was needed because our policies cover this it was more of a process improvement and checkpoint that falls on the administration that the board has no control over this is under a superintendent so just so folks understand that this is a process improvement jeff would you say yes yeah not necessarily any there's no new policy boards doctor the board is not going to actually go into people's files we will never do that and now i think all we asked was a for a summarized report you know periodically assured process is working beyond that you know it's really up to the administration ensure that this is being followed yeah we've developed a number of checks and balances including having the certification date on the coaches even like tony said volunteers evaluation um on top of that the high school principal and athletic director review every certification so like one now that uh the this would be the traditional start of the winter season although it's been postponed so at this time of year um right after the holiday the tone the the athletic director and the principal will review the spring coaches so we're we stay a season ahead um and then you know address any issues that may exist because there are a number of different components that people need to there's there's a five-year coaching certification if you've received that permit already it's a five-year renewal there's a concussions training there's a cpr and first aid training so people are juggling the myriad of dates and if you saw you know and the ct mirror put out an article i guess or hearst connecticut media put out an article with hundreds of coaches in fairfield and in new haven counties having permit lapses so i think you know by comparison we're still doing pretty well but i i know that the um profit we put in place will ensure that we don't have those lapses moving forward no and we don't have anywhere near the severe lapses that we've written about other districts but that aside thank you jeff i guess for those following along i know this i don't want to assume people understand everything all the time so i'll try to clarify it the last thing is kind of related to this you know regarding you know notifications of people leaving coming to school district i personally don't understand why we're doing this i don't need to know who's getting suspended i don't want to know who's getting suspended you know as board of education members we are not supposed to be involved in personnel matters let them be be be privy to them unless the superintendent actually brings it to the full board for for a legal reason i think the intent of this is um really so that we're not caught off guard with departures or things happening in the school district and but even if we are and i would say in the case of the certification issue um you know it doesn't really help us because you know the board some public perception is and again anybody read the herald editorial today that um there was a claim that the board is more transparent in these matters but these are personnel matters that the board has not been privy to and we never will so are we setting ourselves up for more scrutiny for questions we can't answer because we may hear from the superintendent that oh yes there was a total of three suspensions last month you know we open ourselves up to more scrutiny that we can't possibly answer you know and i feel that was a situation with this other issue where we as a board did not know about the meaning we did not know the circumstances of that meaning and quite frankly we never would have known if it wasn't that bs accusations made the public that dragged people through the mud for no apparent reason that's what drove the focus to us so you know i don't be in that position no board member wants me in that position i'm worried that if we're gonna start talking about um even in general terms people coming and going that gives more suspicion to to a fire and fuel that we just don't need um so i i don't know if superintendent stone is going to give us a report that means much of anything but at the end of the day we can't ask questions about these people who they are what they did or what's going on i mean i think it's a good thing if as dr solomon's been doing if someone's leaving our school district because they took a bigger better role in their pro that's a great thing and he's got something to talk about that but i quite frankly don't need to to know if the teacher is leaving but then we can't say why um so that's my two cents on it i know possibly has talked about this i just uh i don't get it um because we can't possibly you know talk about these things without getting legal jeopardy and we're just not worried we're just able to do this so i'll just say be larry that one but i do appreciate the all the work the policy committee has been doing this year and last year you mentioned need a body adam about the lengthy meetings but you know thankfully in some ways you know this board is benefiting i guess because over the last several years various iterations of the board and both ann and catherine and i were involved throughout this have been doing policy revisions uh year over year i think we are all but through except one around you know strategies accounts but that's pretty much it it doesn't mean that the policy committee has nothing to do but i think uh we're benefiting at least that um there's shorter meetings because by and large things are pretty much up to speed there so thank you for for your work on this um that's all i had adam i'm sorry to go a little lengthy but i just want to clarify my stance in a couple of things yeah uh no problem and uh and my mention of chairman body is that is only to say that uh when um as as now the chairman of the policy committee that i i attempt to uh maintain the high standards that she had uh when we uh had our marathon meetings uh and it's be and and it's a uh because of her work that um we have uh much less to do this year than we have in previous years um so uh though i suspect again that that that may pick up the cycle you know and to comment just on the uh the discipline part uh again we agreed i think unanimously uh that because of that jeopardy that we could be put in whereby uh part of our policy is if there was any kind of uh termination or or appeal by an employee that that the board could be involved that uh we we decided not to be involved in any kind of notification especially suspension there's also you know union issues that that are involved the grievance process that we could be seen as interfering in uh so that that was definitely something we left off and that you know uh a just a general coming going of of uh employment was just a general information point for for the superintendent's report um and lastly the uh on the title ix policy um yeah we did decide to move it to a first reading and another point of clarification we're going to need is that because that the reporting requirements became i don't know if i want to call it more rigorous but it seemed to provide more public information uh whether or not um this new pilot new i guess new federal guidelines or new law is in in viola is in conflict with ferpa um and we know we've all had now lots of experience dealing with ferpa um and that we want to make sure that this i don't know if it if if even if it wasn't conflict if there was anything we could do about it because this is federal law so that's why we wanted to make sure that whatever the changes are are federal law only and that there's uh nothing that was written policy by cave that they were putting in there as an interpretation of the law we uh we were trying to make sure that this extensive policy really only the chain the only changes that were made are are the law itself uh and uh jeff is going to add clarification to that before we move forward if i may make just a very quick point you know is adam's talking about the countless hours of of time spent on the policies over the last several years i'd be remiss if i didn't give carol jaczynski a shout out there she started an incredible amount of work to try and do that and i i wouldn't be able to sleep tonight if i didn't throw that out there yeah she actually has to ends up doing all the editing so right he does a ton of heavy lifting on that so i just needed to acknowledge her for that thank you tim you ought to comment as well or a question yeah so i just want to be clear on this so i i think probably i'm i'm probably the person who is pushing the the greater uh transparency the greater knowledge not just for board members but for the public it really comes down to it just for me it's it comes down to hashtag me too um i don't want stuff to just sort of disappear quietly into the night i'm not saying that this situation is happening here in cheshire i am saying that it could and i want to avoid that and that's really what it comes down to i mean in terms of you know in terms of suspensions i was thinking anonymized okay now if we're not going to do that it is what it is um but i don't want to do it in any way sort of way to uh i have no interest in punishing or embarrassing anybody like that but it is i think it's important to not have somebody just move along to the next district at some point because it that impacted cheshire 10 years ago in a negative way and i don't want it to happen again that's what it boils down to and i understand that there could be legal issues and all sorts of stuff but the way i see it is really simple if information is foiable it's foiable people can get that get should be able to get access to it so it's that simple but anyway i will stop thank you i appreciate that again i i know where you're coming from i know it's a lot about transparency and i like to think this board has been you know as as out as outgoing and transparent as we can but when it comes to you know employee things it's it's very as you know and i want to just being a dead horse i certainly understand it it's and again it's tough for us because as board as board members in the board body there's a perception out there misperception from the public that we know everything about everything and any personnel decision and we're a part of it we're not and um and i just i don't want any of us to be caught you know again in a situation where you know you were privy to anonymous information you know then the next step is well you're not doing enough we need more detail just we can't go there but i appreciate them and i know and i think hearing everybody jeff's going to find a delicate balance to you know share things that he could within reason but i hope the public understands that you know when it comes to personnel people coming or leaving the school district or anything else it's that is not for us to discuss um and we can't and we're not privy to it but it doesn't mean we're not um directing the superintendent to make sure he's running a smooth school district but it is his call and if he feels the need to report something he will do so i hope the public understands that but uh again sorry tim i didn't i wasn't trying to single you out i know uh we all have criminal thoughts so that being said thank you and we can move on be great are there any other comments that ends my policy report thank you thank you um thank you everyone uh next up is item 3f which is the i'm sorry uh yeah 3f which is the formation of the calendar committee and i know this is fairly new for some of us jeff you want to give us a quick overview about this process yeah absolutely the every year the board has to formulate a calendar committee that uh you know we comprise that of town wide pta an administrator a member from the teachers union so their all the stakeholders come to the table we have one formal meeting annually and we establish the calendar for the subsequent year so we already have a draft calendar um for next year we'll adopt that calendar and formulate the calendar for the subsequent year and bring those back the committee uh makes a recommendation to the full board full board at the subsequent meeting after that calendar meeting adopts that that calendar thanks jeff and just for uh board members sake i know in our packets in the concord report uh it said that i will announce miss hallon as the uh as the uh uh member of the committee and and sharing that but you know katherine and and quite frankly she's earned this right has asked please don't make me the uh chair again because she does this quite often and it's uh in and again uh so i am anyone interested in being on this committee um please let me know um we're always trying to you know uh rotate people in now to get some experience yeah it is important it's one meeting yeah but it's a great opportunity i don't want to be involved with department heads after our conversation see the calendar i see ann has her hand up and are you interested of course i'm always always happy to help out i've sat on those yeah i've been trying to be i'm trying to be good this year about spreading the workload around i know you're doing a lot of work it's painless thank you you're off the hook this year catherine uh that being said um there's just a recommendation there's no vote required correct jeff um well yes that's correct so if anne's in charge we'll move forward then and then we'll get back to you guys with a recommendation awesome and thank you for stopping up for this appreciate we all appreciate it so one jeff one thought on the calendar committee just wondering where you are right now so looking forward to next year is it two snow days and going remote or you have no idea at this point on that topic yeah um on that topic the board the state board of ed this year has permitted the use of uh remote learning in place of snow days so that's not a perpetual uh guarantee so next year we wouldn't um have i wouldn't quote build that into the calendar uh we'd have to wait for the state board of ed to provide that authority or direction on that but that is an option for this year and that's why we have the two regular snow days before remote learning and then if anybody's still watching tomorrow is a two-hour delay oh it is yes yeah yeah and it was on the channel three news site under announcements earlier i was already on the forums a follow-up question on that i saw a comment in one of the maybe it was in the mirror or something uh lamont had said that he feels snow days are antiquated i believe that was pretty close to his quote i'm just wondering does the state board of ed report to the governor they're not elected but do they do what he tells them to do basically just sort of anticipating or is it a state law that would be required to change it no they're they're of independent thought they're they're like uh the board of education at the state level and whether well they're appointed um they don't necessarily have to do what the governor tells them to and so you know the board works independently and they have this year i think you know like i'm the superintendent of this board and we work collaboratively they work with the commissioner of education at the state level um i actually met with uh commissioner cardona about this issue remote options for snow days and other issues um a couple of months back and so they made he made that recommendation and they adopted it so um everybody's trying to work together on the education side independent of whoever is in the governor's office okay thank you uh moving on uh school modernization committee update andrew oran or andorran if you guys like to give a update you'll need to but you're welcome too sorry about that sorry i was just looking at something um okay so we've had two meetings since our last full board meeting um here the business meeting of the board of education back in november um the first meeting was held on december the 7th as at that meeting we reviewed the proposal that we then discussed at our planning committee meeting of the hall on december the 10th um so again back to where i did my update last time go on take a look at all different options that were presented at that meeting one item that was discussed there that then went over to the option subcommittee meeting was the development of a matrix this matrix we in the subcommittee of the school modernization options committee have spent um we've had three meetings on that we have another meeting again on friday we presented it to the full school monetization committee meeting last night um basically i'm gonna share my screen and show you guys where we are at that as of last meeting last night we did receive a lot of valuable comments um from the full meeting last evening and we're going to go back and take another whack at that but what this is going to do is it's going to set the framework for how we're going to pare down the options to the final options for school modernization um you know as i said earlier there's about 10 to 12 different options floating around so coming up with one concise way whereas each of the members of the school modernization committee can take a look and rate and score each of the different options it makes a lot of sense to do that to try to get these options down so then we could all come up with one plan to then submit to the town council ultimately and then to the voters for um referendum but also at the meeting on december the 7th it was discussed and decided that there would be a hiring of an outside committee or an outside firm rather that would um do a poll of up to 400 residents in town doing a telephone via telephone vote both cell phone and um to individual households in town which is a representative sample so we received a proposal from a committee or from a group known as the center for research and public policy they have a very robust resume and track record where they have done this in other communities where there's going to be a major capital expenditure um there's going to be questions that are going to be developed that are going to be uniform questions are going to be asked to each of the 400 individuals who are called um to take kind of a a sampling of where the community stands on the project in general the cost implication to the mill rate and um just the appetite for school modernization of the community so based on a community size of 30 000 they're recommending um 400 individuals as i said earlier um and that went to the town council for their review because we're seeking a bid waiver where we're not going to go out to competitive bid for this firm it's been vetted by the committee and the town council approved us to hire this group once we are ready to do that the total project cost there is going to be an eight week time frame that they're going to perform their work and then submit their report back to the smc um is a total budget of 17 000 so that all came from our school modernization committee meeting on the 7th any questions on that meeting no okay moving on last night we had another uh great meeting um of the full board school monetization committee um and there again we reviewed the matrix so i'm going to show everybody this matrix again i'm really bad at sharing my screen but i will do my best to do this all right i'm going to share a window and then i'm going to click on this all right see that no no okay boo i know well that's like all right let me do this how about now somebody oh no you know andrew try sharing when it comes up say entire screen and then just click on the the window or the tab that you want to show well now it's saying it's not responding oh damn it all right keep bearing with me for one more minute sorry everybody at home i know it's getting late here all right well i'm trying i can't bring it up i don't know but what i wanted to do is i wanted to show you folks the um different criteria that we're going to be rating the different options for for the matrix um but it won't let me do it do you have it man that's what i'm looking for andrew can you it was emailed if you email it to me i don't know if i have the latest one and i can't find it i'll bring it up let me let me see if i can pull it up too it should have it right here my whole screen is gray right now damn sorry guys adam you get a plus for every adam andrew a plus for trying it no i i think that was a great call because i know smc showed a near final draft last night and uh i don't know i raised it to a chance to see it but one way or another we'll find a way to get to the board but um i don't know if the link to last night's meeting is up yet or not but maybe somehow we can share that for the audience um because that was disgusting right this is um a version of it that we were reviewing let me see if it's the most recent one sorry um yeah that's the older one yeah this is an older one but you can get a sense of the sort of things that we were looking at uh the highest priority item being in dr addressing the enrollment projections as you know we're running the base based on the enrollment at the elementary grade um code requirements and physical conditions of the building modernization uh what sort of life expecting sort of life expectancy will we get out of buildings with these things um the degree of benefit to cheshire students um and then i think the last two we might have taken off but we have included the the fiscal impact i don't know andrew is there anything you want to elaborate on with these no yeah there's definitely an older version um yeah it is the older version it's going to be updated tomorrow no problem andrew's back really i really blew that one huh not only did it kick me off but i wasn't able to share my screen or go through anything so jeff were you able to share it i i had only an older one andrew and i did go through some of the highlights like the greatest priority being the enrollment at the elementary level and then you know what sort of longevity would each um option provide and uh the code updates and things like that modernization of classrooms so we did hit on it but tomorrow will be the next meeting if people want to view that on the the town youtube page it'll be 3 30.

so we need to ask the question how many new jersey teachers have died from covid since let's say september or the summer when we've gotten some therapies this leads the question of what is an acceptable risk we know that the children the risk for k-8 children is zero not minimal it's zero so let's look at the adults back in the spring governor curfew saw the death rate as high as 300 people dying a day well we can understand that was unacceptable so we go to lockdown shelter at home etc now with a rate around as high as recently 50 a day the governor's not ordered lockdown you can go to the restaurants box stores walmart most retail stores bars and gyms so 50 people per day social distance and mask puts adults at an acceptable risk according to the governor back to my question what is acceptable risk for the morbidity of teachers is it 1 5 20 per month per year what is your metric for acceptable risk we know what the governor's metric is let's say for purposes of example it's one or twenty or a hundred would you ever allow the schools to reopen if it was one or twenty or a hundred so you're responsible for making the decisions and please explain to me uh what two questions how many teachers have died from covid in new jersey and two do you have an acceptable risk policy with regard to communicable diseases thank you elaine for your service we appreciate it actually we appreciate all your services thank you john thank you mr jenks oh please i'm sorry no no it was a prepared statement if you would like copies i'd be hated we got them an email thank you i appreciate that thank you so much good evening my name is evan scott i live at 106 williamsburg court my first question tonight is on december 8th i read an article in the marvel marlton sun titled enrollment open for etsd's tuition-based 2021-2022 preschool program could you tell me tonight who wrote that article um is that an article that was printed in the sun yes yes sir um so i believe her name is there's often a writer that that does the articles in there about school district uh items madeleine um the last name starts with an m that's how i'm thinking battle in the car is that who it what did it say in the bi part now so in this article in this instance and this is a growing concern not only at the municipal level but it now seems to be happening here this is submitted content so submitted content meaning it was entered into the marlton sun by a government source not by the marlton sun itself so would you be able to tell me who wrote that article i'd have to uh it probably was created by multiple people so i'd have to uh take a look into that but i certainly could follow up with you okay and i appreciate that and just the follow-up if we were able to find that it would be great and the reason why i say that is we're faced with a situation where we have the government producing its own news without attribution now i don't have a problem with the school district publishing its own news pieces and giving it to the marlton sun or any other news source but with attribution so we know who produced it who provided you know the information etc etc okay so my next question is on the townships human rights advisory committee which mr camp in europe a part of uh recently it's been discussed about providing implicit bias training for school teachers and employees my question for the board is would you consider receiving that same training prior to mandating it for employees or have you already received implicit bias training as a board member has anyone received implicit bias training as a board member any training that we've had done is through the new jersey school boards and you know there's some bias training done through through school boards i am not privy exactly to what the human rights council is referring to that that level hasn't come up to us yet so i can't really answer that i don't think we have the ability to answer that yet until we saw something solid on our end okay and i think that i think lenape regional would probably end up saying the same thing too yes and i agree and i just think that it would be important for public-facing officials to have the same training before they mandated for employees so that we're all singing from the same shooting music which i am in favor of by the way i think it would be a good thing to have that kind of training all right hey thank you very much thank you very much anybody else okay uh i have two uh prepared statements to read uh from uh that were written in this last month too i'm going to try to read this again i'm going to do this with the uh as best as i can with the emotion that is asked for in these letters so uh please pardon me as i as i do this all right and again these are letters written by uh two members of the public this is not a view of the eastern township board of education the first one is from nicole puglia a second grade teacher from buehler elementary school all right good evening dr smith and board of education as you are aware we are in a global pandemic and have made it quite far this school year for in-person training we're learning i'm sorry in-person learning since the decision was made for schools to return it was my fear that my colleagues and other students and families would be in a situation to test positive or have to quarantine you have heard from many of us over these past few months recently i reached out as a concerned mom and teacher upon the closure of buehler i have felt no other option to keep my children safe than to have them in a full remote setting my husband's district in delawarean tried one school at a time and it did not work out and they had to shut the whole district down my extended family attends mes and it has heightened my concerns once again i implore you at this time to make the decision to implement full remote learning until after the holiday time and people are safe i wish you all good health throughout the holiday season thank you sincerely nicole puglia and miss puglia hopefully i've pronounced her name correctly it's one of my uh one of my my nervous little tips about this so i thank you for your letter and i appreciate your appreciate your words just want a second that thanks to miss puglia um having been in her classroom and seeing what she's done this year fantastic stuff and um i appreciate you sharing your concerns from a parent and staff member lens thank you okay i have one more scroll down to it this is from debbie van curin the ega president good evening dr smith and board of education members my comments tonight are on behalf of the etea members and our students families the news that i heard this afternoon is so disheartening many families were just told what we all feared you must quarantine going into the christmas holiday this happened prior to thanksgiving break to our members and students in our schools our staff has worked so hard and has done all that you have put on our plates to keep our schools open our staff is feeling very beat up and under appreciated our staff feels that the health and safety of us and our family members is the last thing on your priority list while the world continues to navigate the pandemic our staff comes to school each day worried that we will be exposed and take covid19 home to our elderly parents and at-risk family members our principals continue to try to cover these classes and keep us all safe but there's only so much they can do to beat a dead horse the indoor lunch is not socially distancing in any way students are not six feet away they do not remember to put their masks on before getting out of their seats it is not working this is a huge covet 19 exposure risk to everyone in our buildings the etea has asked you to close our schools for in-person learning so this would not happen again like it did at thanksgiving break you rejected our request and now many students and staff members are unable to spend christmas with their families due to quarantining many of our teachers come to school each day with a handful of students in front of them and the majority of the class at home working remotely recently some parents made the choice to have their children switch from the hybrid model to an all remote model to lower their family's risk of being told you must quarantine through christmas parents made this decision because you won't make the decision to close our entire school district for in-person learning you continue to try the one school at a time or one class at a time game we have made it more than one third of the way through our school year tonight on behalf of the students and staff i urge you to close our entire school district for in-person learning until sometime after the holidays board of education members will one of you decide tonight to take the next step to close our school district for in-person learning this will be a huge way to show that you appreciate the unbelievable dedication that has been shown since the first school day in september thank you debbie van curan that's all the statements that i had thank you mr president thank you miss van kieren for your comments just want to reply to a couple pieces first care and compassion are at the heart of everything that we're doing it's why at different points different of our schools have closed for different lengths of time and the reason that they close is preventive out of care and compassion to make sure that there isn't a problem it's why one of our eight schools is closed now so we have been willing to close a school or schools and again that decision is made out of an abundance of caution and compassion for our staff and students and we will continue to do that because we have to balance it against the compassion and care that we have for everyone and there are schools and all the schools that stay open it's safe to have them open and some of the every one of those schools almost is larger than entire districts in our county so you know it's it's a difficult difficult balance like everything in this pandemic where we have to have compact compassion for multiple groups of people and weigh that every day and it does weigh trust me it does weigh every day um but to close a school that's safe where there aren't haven't been any cases because another school was closed instantly shows puts puts puts harm into the lives of hundreds of people and that's a really hard decision all the time and i just want you to know that caring compassion are in every decision at every moment which is what makes this so difficult and the other last thing i wanted to say is i think your phrasing was the school by school game is how you phrased it the school bicycle game and because of our care and compassion this is the opposite of a game this is absolutely serious and so uh while i will agree with you on many many things that word game i will politely push back on and say that has absolutely zero to do with any of this this is serious thank you that will close our public portion of this meeting and now we're going to item 16 board member announcements are there any members of the board that wish to give an announcement um miss everhart i just want to say to elaine it's been very interesting to sit with you on this side of the table i remember you on that side of the table causing uh us to review a lot of things and to have a lot of conversations because you and your husband used to uh you know approach us with a lot of food for thought items at that time from that perspective then you came over here and and you dutifully did the same you would come to committee meetings and you would sit side by side with a lot of us board members and you would challenge and question and offer your experience and advice you and i fought are should i say we have battled a lot of things because we didn't always agree with perspectives or curriculum changes or things that were going on in the district but we always at the end of the day were able to come back to center and appreciate each other's perspective so it is with a heavy heart on one hand to say goodbye but i am also happy for you because now hopefully you will have more time to enjoy your retirement and i look forward to seeing you on that side of the table again and thank you for all of your mentoring and uh experience and just being a great board member that you brought to the table it was a pleasure sitting beside you thank you good luck thank you trish i really appreciate that and i have to say the same thing i i didn't get a chance and i i apologize um you you're a absolutely tremendous person and i've really gotten to know you really well on this board since you've been elected and i'm going to miss you you bring a very a very um very awesome perspective you're always going to have conversations i've i've always had some very noon to three would be the second half in the middle we would let the morning kids go home and we'd pick up the afternoon so on monday and tuesday eight kids would be in the morning for their first classes in person and the b kids would be remote they would then go home the b kids would come in to be in person with the a kids being involved wednesday and thursday the b kids would be in the morning eight kids remote and in the afternoon the eight kids would be in person because remote and then friday would be eight to twelve thirty as it is now with alternating a or b and remote this side steps the need to have deals at the stools it sidesteps a lot of things we would like to start this on february 16th that's the day after president's day there's a few reasons we're picking that date but right now on january 4th i want to be clear on this we've not been asked every time we've ever gone remote we've been asked by the health department to build a vote we've not been asked to go promote after christmas and so january 4th we will come back exactly as we are right now okay k5 8 to 12 30 6 12 hybrid 8 we also need to hire lunch supervisors we've got two of our teachers done we need three more we've been hitting the bushes we've been uh contacting schools and i'm hoping a lot of december grads haven't gotten around to getting their applications together and we're going to see an influx here but we do need to hire those positions we also want to give them time to get in to be with the team and really understand the curriculum look at what they're doing so february 16th will be your time once we uh enact this plan 6th through 12th will be coming every day either in the morning or the afternoon right now on thursday if a a kid gets sick we don't have to quarantine anybody because an agent on thursday hasn't been at the school for over 24 hours then coming every day we're gonna quarantine six through twelve probably twice as many as we're going to hear we understand this that's another reason why we want to wait until february in february it'll still be cold when it'll be starting to warm up it'll be through most of the january and early february cold and flu season the vaccine will also have to have time to work its way into first responders and and hopefully our numbers will see start going down finally uh eight to three is a long time without masks for the little ones as it was brought up by our student i uh tested the world o2 which i did this excellent science project there but it's long for the kindergarten eight to three is a long time they're going to need mass breaks you got to have to go outside you'd like to get past a lot of the really cold weather again i don't think it's um i don't want to wait till march i'd like to do a defensive and so you know it's that balancing can we get them in earlier we push it off later forgive with the mask breaks that's another reason to wait till february right now 8 to 12 30 would continue as i said one of the big things that people are saying is they're struggling the kids are struggling and they need to give them more help i can tell you my teachers are struggling as well they're trying to get the kids that are struggling to attend those hours in the afternoon they they're asking their parents to you know it's just the kids aren't signing in they are wrong there needs to be consequences for those kids in my opinion but we need that assistance we need those relationships between the teachers and the parents to try and get together and get those kids to do what needs to be done um those are really the key reasons um as far as a plan as i said this plan gives k5 here eight to three it's a foundation kindergarten first second third grade i mean if you look at long-term issues yeah i'm not thrilled with the high school struggling that the high school should be in more what a high school student at least has those foundations to get the early learning the little ones i think is just crucial so this plan gives that eight to three hair i love them it gives the six to twelve at school every day it has them attending classes in the morning and in the afternoon it's the most like real school that you can get it while keeping the wheels safe keeping the contact tracing reasonable until we get these masks off and we can go back to business as usual i don't know where else we would change it this would be the huge expansion um the good thing about this taking this big step instead of trying to implement a bunch of different changes is you make this change and you probably be set for the rest of the school year unless somebody tells us we can start having meals with the middle school and you don't have to worry about these masks i'm optimistic that that will happen but i'm also a realist and i know that those are the different options so my administration team we've worked with the teachers we've had a lot of conversations we've had a lot of discussions on this we believe based on our experiences this is the plus plan so i'm recommending that we go with this plan on february 16th 2021.

tomorrow at 3 30 yes and it's um take a look at it and once it is finalized tomorrow will be the last time that we're going to look at it um we're going to finalize it at that meeting tomorrow and then it's going to go out to all of the smc members and they're going to have the opportunity to rate all of the options on that and then send in their final rating sheet to colliers coliers is going to tabulate all of that and then we'll have that ready for our next smc bull board meeting andrew i just got a quick question on on the matrix sure um so that matrix looks uh familiar to me it looks like something i've used to to grade uh uh vendor responses for rfps um and i was just wondering um usually that that page that you showed is looks like the the main page where you'd have like let's say uh eight or ten or fifteen other little things that feed into that final score um and i was just wondering once the um plans are whittled down to let's say two or three are you going to add any additional resolution to the scoring for the for the project finalizations or is the intention to use that matrix to choose a one project that we're gonna that the smt is going to uh recommend for consideration the idea right now is to bring it down to a few options and then start building out and populating what those actual options are and how the actual construction if it's going to be cips of the various schools which you know capital improvement projects or if we're going to be going for full renovations then from there the um jim jascott is going to populate with the overall bonding implications to the town and to the individual taxpayers you know saying if it's a 200 million dollar all-in 10-year project that that project there will cost the average um cheshire homeowner based on a 300 000 home x amount of dollars per year um so that column that we showed that um superintendent put up that final column all the way to the right will be populated by jim jascott's group um in town hall so there's going to be once we find out the final like let's say that we come up with three options that we're going to be moving forward with then there's going to be actual schedules assigned to those options and to how the bonding will hit the town that's great news happy to hear that and also this isn't the only thing we're not just looking at the price here and i wanna you know we talk about the price the cost implication to the town you know we're looking at the best overall plan and then seeing how that um will impact right and i just wanted to comment uh from the smc meeting uh the first hour uh was the presentation from uh south windsor i think and i think if anyone is who's taking great interest in these projects they gave a great presentation on how they sort of sold their final project and how they came about deciding on their project and i think that would be great if someone wants to see sort of a future expectation of how things may proceed in the future here uh that is very informational absolutely tim actually tim had a question thanks andrew thanks tony uh yeah this it came up at our the planning committee meeting with it was it chuck warrington a week ago earlier yep and i mentioned it there but i didn't actually ask you or ann to bring it to the smc life cycle costs uh did you happen to bring it up is it something that you would be willing to bring to the essence yeah i definitely once once we have um once we have let's say those three options on the table um i think that that's that's the discussion that um we could bring to the smc to bring to coliers okay okay and then just for this important i mean it's a very important item you know if we're looking at a 20-year bond and a cip is going to have less than that or a renovation is going to have greater than that i mean that's something that we should it should be part of the discussion for sure yeah just so the viewing public understands where i come from on life cycle costs of any sort of construction project i read it somewhere and and i can't verify this but i take it as being fairly accurate uh buildings and i don't recall if it was residential or commercial but various types of buildings over a 40-year lifespan of a typical building which could be a school it could be a home eighty percent of the costs are energy costs energy maintenance costs i forget exactly um so looking at the lifecycle cost to me is is critical and when we had this discussion with uh with colliers a week ago i i realized that that was not part of the overall contract so anyway yeah as long as it gets incorporated before it gets down to sort of the finish line and asking people um so yeah thank you for that and then also uh is there does the smc have uh i know there's an as sort of an outreach committee is part of that going to be looking at enrollment trying to help increase awareness of enrollment targets so yeah that was one thing sorry with my internet issue i had before um also we have there's there's a subcommittee a communication subcommittee of the full board um and so i keep saying the full board of the full committee rather you know so many board meetings but yes and one of their jobs is to get that information out there um we've we have put it out we've published the mylona mcbroom study which talks about the enrollment projections over the next eight years um that will be continued to be discussed and if you look on that scoring matrix one of the one of the um the highest ranked column on that is about the increased enrollment so that's we're looking at that the project that addresses that is has the highest weight overall so when we're looking at the projects um that's really that's what's coming down the pike to us um and as adam mentioned uh um south windsor um superintendent and the head of the pack that was formed there to get the projects moving um that was one of the issues that they were faced with and that really helped push their project along and since they built their schools they've had a major increase in their enrollment um so getting all that information out and how best to do it that was what we discussed a lot last night at the meeting okay thanks yeah just i mean one of the things that's so people can understand where i'm coming from is i tend to generally be a skeptic of the enrollment that i've seen for years talking about increasing i feel differently right now from what i felt 12 months ago and it's primarily i'm guessing it's primarily because of kovid and all of a sudden construction that hadn't happened in cheshire for 15 years is happening now in in a significant way and that's that to me is is a bit of a game changer right there thank you yeah and i wish i i didn't jot down the number here last night but the superintendent um miss uh kate carter from south windsor um orchard hill elementary school which was the fourth elementary school they built four brand new elementary schools in south windsor there were five schools they went from five to four four brand new schools and the last school from the initial from the beginning of the plan to actual construction it was somewhere around a 400 student elementary school and now it's up upwards of 700 students um so they experienced a major influx of residents um because of some you know they couldn't exactly pinpoint why there was some economic drivers from the city of hartford and some folks moving into town um but it was kind of one of those they built it and they came type scenarios whereas we um might experience the same thing here in cheshire and so that's what we're trying to really plan for with the enrollment site by melanoma broom just just one more one more quick point just then that's that one more that's it i'm kidding i just want to acknowledge because i've had people say it to me you know the the student enrollment has dropped what is it a thousand students in the past 15 years or something like that 5200 to 4200 i understand that at the same time the buildings have aged 15 years and enrollment probably will be increasing so just these are the thoughts going through my head and and how we move forward and it's an important thought and you know she the superintendent actually pointed that out south windsor experienced 10 full years a decade of declining enrollment so when they began their study and they did their enrollment study it showed 10 years they were losing enrollment and then all of a sudden there was this major influx of individuals and so now they built these new schools luckily at the um elementary school level but now they're going to be faced with issues at the middle school and at the high school um she made a comment last night that there's gonna be 600 additional students that are going to be coming into their high school so they're going to have to continue to look at that anybody else have questions no okay thank you yeah sorry no i'm just gonna add that um because tim asks that the our communication subcommittee has been putting out like the basic facts of of what they think you know the public really needs to know and one of those is the enrollment projections so they're they're doing their best to really get that that base information while widely out there with the public excellent thank you andrew thank you ann and board members for the interaction there and you know it is uh we are you know these meetings especially as january february in particular come around smc committee will you know be narrowing down the options and there'll be more details and certainly much you know much more bored feedback so i think the more we can cover in the board sessions it keeps things fresh and i'm certainly not trying to get the meeting to go you know too long but it's worthwhile and we all agree in smc and hear that we can't you know we got to be as proactive and communicative as possible so i know you know richard gustenberg is working you know harvard communications committee and those members to be out there and you'll see more stuff from that but so all good stuff one last thing related to finances um so the sneak community meeting uh uh gen based chair was content planning and vice chair you know whether a finance uh related subcommittee was needed to start looking around and they try to really not need it since you know mr jim jascott has the wonderful task of you know turning through the number so to keep things simple uh i think don walsh and um if someone has their microphone on can you can you mute her against some feedback sorry thank you all right so we have don walls and jim jinx who are members in smc represent town council they will be working with uh feedback from town council anything related to finances with jim with jim jascott and uh i'll be working with the board of vet if you have any questions that you'd like jim to answer and had a couple here today about what the town born rate is and be happy to move that uh to gym and get back responses with the goal goal being of of of streamlining everybody's time you know jim not being inundated with too many questions and smc being in the loop on the different things so you know as things materialize expect more questions around that you know keep them coming and thank you on that uh moving on we're going to get to item number four which was the uh minutes uh from the november 19th meeting so in our packets we do have the minutes written up thank you carol um any changes modifications to those minutes i have none seen as there are no you're you're muted tony mr chairman i'd like to make a motion also you read my lips uh seeing i was asking was any modification you know i probably sound clearer when i'm muted but any any uh amendments or modifications on the minutes seems there's none is there a motion mr adam mr grippo uh i do um move that the cheshire board of education approved the minutes of the board of education meeting held november 19 2020.

i have some questions um so on the friday the a and the b was alternating back and forth between the morning and yeah you don't think that's to be like total confusion um that's a lot just i think to seem to keep track of can you not just [Music] yeah the one thing i can tell you though with the hybrid there's been you know every every time you've done this there's been concerns that the kids or the families won't be able to you know there'll be confusion with the a day and the b day this is just the damage i think i think you know we'll set up calendar and then um with the kids coming a in the morning b in the afternoon i expressed this to you when i we spoke that i've heard that there are a lot of high school kids that have jobs that are working their jobs and not necessarily being remote so do you think that really if if you're an a student and you're only attending school for a few hours and then you're getting a couple hours off and you're supposed to go home you're supposed to sign up for the afternoon that all of these kids are disciplined enough if their parents are working that they're going to sign back on to be remote the rest of the day and not a get together as a group of kids or going to jobs or just decide that hey i attended school this morning i'm done i'm good i can take the rest of the day off yeah i totally think it'll be done and this is why right now what we're seeing is they come in 8 to 12 30 and they go through all of their periods so they've taken all of those classes in their mind school's over all the afternoon they're supposed to be doing their work and going to the meetings with the office hours with the teachers it's not a scheduled day it's it's it's too new for them what we're doing is we're doing only four classes so when they're done in the morning and they go home for lunch and it's not a couple hours it's gonna be an hour and a half maybe an hour um minimize that as much as possible they're gonna have their lunch it's gonna be an extended lunch break but then they're gonna have the whole afternoon classes that are scheduled and one of the things is that you know education's a full-time job it should be going from eight to three what i like about this plan is they've got commitments to actual classes that they haven't gone with yet in the morning and the afternoon so i do believe that the kids will come back and do it and if they don't we have truancy procedures that we can go through to get them to do that now the kids aren't going to like this because again like you said they're working jobs they're gonna have to change their hours but i don't think school should be aged 12 30 it's not a half a day thing so i do i think that the teachers not the teachers the students will come in the afternoon because they haven't had their class yet they know that they have to attend the classes no i'm saying i know that the afternoon wants to come but i'm just thinking more like the ones that are there in the morning that they necessarily will go home yeah they have to walk in they have to attend the class you have to attend remotely or in person and if you don't then you're going to be trimmed and we'll have to deal with that office hours we don't have the same stick that you can do with the truancy they have to attend their classes office hours are not a requirement correct correct but attending attending classes remotely is a requirement yes and basically if they would go in the morning and then not attend in the afternoon basically what they're doing is only going every other day to a particular class and they won't if they're only going to attend that class every other day they're not going to cut it well yeah they're going to be written opportunities but they're not going to be able to make the grade in the class at all right if you only go every other day how about the bus schedules will it be modified at all to accommodate the vacuum the uh april becker and and the bus department has done a lot of jobs of doing that right now what it looks like is they're going to be dropping off and it's going to be very normal to what it normally is i'm going to be dropping off and picking up at the same time and having them sit up i also have a few other things i would like to recommend as well that we bring the sixth to the eighth kids back from the eighth degree just like the fifth graders are and i know that it's it has been said over and over again that the lunches are the problem um there can be workarounds for this i mean lunches can be staggered every hallway has every hallway the middle school has their common area that can be used for lunchroom along with the cafetorium along with the lower level that is storing how much stuff does this district need to store that we cannot open up some of that space or why not they juggle the schedules a little bit and you make a standard lunch time for everybody like some people have at their jobs and you eat where you're at it's just it's like a sack lunch for the rest of the school year to provide that you eat where you're at you bring in more lunch monitors so that the teacher gets their lunch break the the issue with the lunches is um the lunches aren't the big issue if you do lunches then you're saying the kids are there all day right and so are we going to have all of them in all day or are we going to go back to them being in all day and while for the a kids on these days and the b kids on those days we want the kids in every day the lunches is the middle of the time that will be just that'll be the only time missing it's not instruction okay the real issue is that in sixth and then it's not departmental it is departmentalized in fifth grade and down everybody's in a self-contained class and so the the movement of those kids like if you get a kid sick in the fifth grade you might take down the whole class right now they're really you know kindergarten first when you have to do more group work and more hands-on stuff it does take down the whole class in fifth grade you don't take down the whole class you take out a good portion of it if you did that sixth seventh and eighth grade you'd be doing that for every class that they attend because when a kid goes home sick you gotta go to every one of those periods and so the um the sixth seventh and eighth grade until we can stop quarantining you can't have them come in all day so if we stay like this the rest of the school year you believe that we're fine with just keeping the kids on the schedules that they're on don't i don't think anybody would say this is ideal but it does allow the whole day to be instructional it does allow us to be safe with the quarantining with the lunches um to bring everybody in six through eight i think at this point in time would just be um dangerous but we've looked at this these schedules and we've looked at what other districts are doing look at how it can work for us and we believe this to be the best plan but i i mean i work in belleville there's schools over in belleville when they say that they're still they're hybrid or they're taking some hours off on different times it's they're not going all day long it's not the idyllic world that we think pre-coded how would it be different than what ics is doing because they're six seven and they are all in how would that be different because the classroom sizes are still similar and they haven't had big issues they're a private school do they change do they change classes they do and they have well some of the kids do right but not all not all of them all right it would be all but how would that change it though because we're not having a lot of kids go out i i don't i can talk to mr carr it would just be interesting to be able to compare that because i'm concerned too with the sixth seventh and eighth graders especially on the new schedule because my eighth grader i could never trust him to be home alone and log on when he's supposed to and a lot of these parents are working and they're not able to micromanage their kids during the day and i think that's that's right now they're doing the same thing right now they're at home on their remote days doing the same thing logging in how is how is how is what they're doing on their remote days any different than what they're gonna need to be doing either in the morning or the afternoon well it's gonna be all day i mean they're gonna have to do their morning routine and then be responsible for doing something again with that little break in between versus okay mom wakes them up at 8 30 they're done at 12 30 and then it just right now what they're going to have is our consequences of truancy if they don't do it and so we'll go through that process with them but ma'am sixth grade i don't even i wouldn't even leave my sixth grader home alone but then right now with the hybrid schedule you'd still be in the same situation you need to have some kind of figuring it out so maybe that maybe there's so much there's so much more immature at that age six seven eight when we get to high school there's a little bit higher level of maturity so i mean that's a lot for these kids to be responsible for yeah and what i'm saying is that the next logical step in my mind after having a lot of discussions is two to the morning and the afternoon i don't see that any different as the kids logging in or not logging in you know the parents aren't there now on the days that they are remote it's the same situation but they're having to be responsible for stuff for just four hours right now and with the new system it's going to be all day are you talking about remote can't fully run healthcare no i'm talking about hybrid so if they're hybrid kids let me let me understand what you're saying so let's pretend that it's the orchid of 83 coming in so be the a day person uh so that in the morning on a monday comes in until in person doing that so they're there with their teacher or whatever and then ride the bus pick up whatever get home get something and then they log in so they're really being having to have that maybe self-motivation or that self-drive or whatever you want to say or maybe they don't have that and they need that person to be kind of proud of them but they'll need them for the last four hours of it so it's still i think the same duration of if they need additional adult support um when they're independent at home it's still the same amount of time i just think it's depending on if it's in the morning or the afternoon because at least half of that day they're going to be direct face-to-face with the teacher in person but at that time would that make sense are they going to have longer class periods than with this high school plan [Music] whereas the middle school has eight so you'll see more of a change at the high school in minutes per class than you will is in the middle school there will be an additional time um but not at the middle school traditionally the class period is about 44 minutes with this it'll be 35-ish i believe and at the high school the morning classes will be around 40 something and then the afternoon will be 50.

so they will see high school a drastic increase i think that this plan will give us an opportunity to get kids back in on a daily basis and my understanding is and the conversation i've had is our administrators have put a lot of time and thought into this a lot of research it's not just a feel-good plan and we've got to have some confidence in in our administrators decisions and by going with this plan and getting it in place it's going to be much easier to transition to all in as we go down the road and get closer to the end of the school year and this would be a plan too that we could get into that we wouldn't be swapping plans in and out and this might be more of a long-term plan could i recommend that um the may we break this up into parts of a lot because i am totally against the february 16th date i expressed that to you when i spoke to you i thought about it more i i'm completely against starting this in february um i told you i'd like to see it start when you come back from school but i know we can't start on january 4th but would you consider like a two-week period when we come back on the fourth it takes us to january 18th which is a holiday the kids are off on that friday the 15th already starting it in january 19th the february is a better date for a few reasons one i don't think that we're going to have the i mean we're setting up interviews right now for the next teaching we've got to interview them and select them and then one time with them to be with the teachers um there's also two remote land planning days that are united calendar already before the february which gives those remote teachers time to really dive in and work with the teachers so um i know you don't like the february 16th i can tell you right now that if we do it any earlier the education's going to suffer it's just it's not going to be a very good plan they're going to um it's going to be pushed and rushed and it's not going to be implemented to the best of its ability the teachers are going to work their butts off and the administration's going to work their tails off and everybody's going to do everything they can to try and make it work but it's it's just it's hard to explain what goes into grade level teams and articulation and the creation of getting a new teacher involved with the team and working on this there's a lot of things going on and i get the the six to eight argument i don't think that it would be wise given our school size and our dynamics with what we've got to do what ics is doing as far as the date it'd be very hard not to do to do this any sooner we also don't have a single we haven't had a single person apply to do any of our lunches we've never had uh lunch monitors at the middle school it's always been the administration and the support staff meaning the guidance counselors and social workers which they would still do that but that would not be enough um and so we would have to not only hire if they were to stay in each of their classrooms i forget how many we you know we're looking at down here but then there we have another single person applied to be a lunch room supervisor or not even a luncheon just one supervisor classroom supervisor to be able to make that happen and we have to have that definitely there to make it work um where are we advertising all over the place uh kim is a guru of getting that out there and recruiting every possible she makes phone calls everything so um many of the applications that have come our way have been through um her efforts of reaching out to people and making those connections so we really appreciate that um and so we're hopeful that we can get the remote teachers because obviously that isn't important but the lunch part it has to happen and we haven't had anything and we will have a contract issue if we don't and i you know obviously nobody wants to go down that path but we also i mean it's going to be important for it's important for those teachers to have a duty-free lunch you know it's not important just because of you know whatever they need that break in an elementary setting they don't get the same as the upper grades get so they need that time to be able to sometimes just go to the bathroom and shoot you know so we can't expect them to sit there in their lunches and do that so we need the time to get the right people in place i know nobody in here wants to sacrifice the quality of people we have taking care of our children and we've been very impressed with some of the applicants that we've got other ones they're they think that they're remoting like from japan to help us out or something you know we're like no this requires you to actually be in our building these people will be in our building this isn't a work from home and situation they're going to be part of our team they are hired and we need that time it to make light of that i think is is i don't know not productive any other questions or comments i i think the titan is the step in the right direction i don't think it's the end-all be at all and i wouldn't like to see that through the entire school year i think if we're moving in the right direction i could get behind it at least but i i do think the biggest problem from the parents that i hear is in that middle school range where i think those kids are they're in the queens i think they're the ones that are kind of getting left out the high school kids seem to be able to adapt a little bit better the younger kids are getting in person the middle school i think it's kind of there's a lot of foundational things too if those kids are still learning that i i know you guys have put so much time and effort into the plane and i like most of the plans i would just like to see six through eight being addressed as well i will make the note that that will be the next piece as we continue to move forward look at options i had some conversation with courtney and said you know maybe eventually one of the first phases could be to bring sixth grade back in and one grade level at a time versus all three grades dumped in at once so you know there may be stair steps to getting getting them all back in would that be a possibility and then have the end date be in the fed world high school kids and maybe stair second a little bit so it's not all at once and overwhelming yeah i think right now what i need to do is wrap my head around what we're doing in february get that set and then what we can do is we can start talking about moving from there and hopefully numbers will go down and we won't be having as many cases and having all the quarantine issues if we can get past the quarantine issues we could get past this you know another thought too and i do think that this happens at ics where the teachers may go around to the kids that mostly stay in their room like today i substituted at parkview as and i have art cards and so i went from class to class doing that and that's maybe what instead of the kids leave in their classrooms the teachers go to them in their homeroom class and that way only the teachers are moving and non-kids that may work in sixth grade but it won't work instead of the eighth grade and the reason being is that none of them necessarily have the same scheduled classes okay so we could i mean that may however one of the big concerns that i do have and not to say that it couldn't be worked around so when i say that i don't mean that but one of the things i want you to consider in this is that we have students who have iups who go and get services and when you have let's say the math teacher come around to the cart and my kid has an ivp in math so that teacher comes up that kid has to get up and walk out in front of everybody and everybody knows where they're going that when we talk about self-esteem and we talk about middle school years that is a huge concern and i can empathize because we have a lot of families that choose not to get their child's services because of what they perceive to be the stigma i know i i won't make it a secret that i have a child you know who has a disability now that's a different scenario but there are a lot of students who that would be absolutely devastating to be able to do it totally calls them out so that is a concern i have for their well-being for that and it doesn't work as nicely as it doesn't look the same at an elementary school as it does when you start getting into into middle school as such and then when you sixth grade their electives are on a like a requirement schedule much like what eagle or a parkview does but when they get into seventh and eighth grade they have those choices and i know we've had the conversation about maybe taking those away because we're in a pandemic but you also need to consider that some of those choices that they take are the a and b classes of technology spanish and german that eventually lead them to get those college credits that we are have our program based upon when they get to the high school and those um i forget what it's called but they get an award we get a couple of oh my gosh it's a language award what's it called by literacy thank you i'm like i got the dude right here come on so that would be detrimental to that program we would probably end up losing our high school german program et cetera or it would be drastically affected if we didn't do because we start that interest and then they jump in and then we can push them to those ap classes that would be odd and i think that that would not be wise i understand it's a unique situation but i think we need to look at a bigger picture sometimes the interesting thing for me and i i just had this realization because you know you've said before about the whole the teacher's need and everything and we've had a lot of really good ideas that get brought forward and you start as you start thinking oh that should work and then what happens is that you have the discussion you start realizing oh yeah trying no we don't group our kids all together we you know and that's one of the things that we're different than ics because we've got more kids at a grade level and so we've got to group them some are good at math some are good at reading some are good at this someone for the day and so the kids don't have the same kids in the classes and so there are details and i can just disturb you we have gone through a ton of ideas and sometimes i really bring it up i remember this conversation that we had before you know we brought it up the first time about the teacher's movement i said oh yeah okay and then oh yeah that's right we don't have the you know and so all of these ideas that we're talking about you know it's you say this is the issue but really it's not just this thing like lunches being the issue it's how the lunches interact with the rest of the schedule as the shared staff is another huge thing you know why does the middle school and the high school and the elementaries need to work kind of in synchronics well a because of transportation but b we've got staff members that teach at the high school and at the elementary schools you know band and music and it just there's a lot of working parts and you know i i i'm not saying don't keep questioning and say well why don't we do this and why don't we do that because i'm looking for all the great ideas what i'm telling you though is we've spent this whole year kind of playing with various options and various ideas and the smallest little piece of sand can start grinding away the education we're here for the education of kids we want the education to be as good and as great as we can do it and to get that articulated by the teachers to get i mean they're all working very very hard a really great job in some really bad situations it's hard to engage you know i today i addressed the faculty and the staff um damn great people were there and one of the things that they said was a teacher said you know how do i better engage the kid that's remote you know because they're still trying to figure that out and if you look at other stuff you know this is a high school teacher saying i need to better engage those remote kids if you look at our high school a bunch of them are remote they're choosing to go remote because our teachers are engaging they are getting what they need there are kids that are struggling i'm not saying this is a perfect system for everybody but even last year before kobe i can guarantee you there were kids in our district that struggled you know what we've got to do is find those individuals pick them up and move them along um here what we're doing is trying to come up with a plan that can work with all everybody and all those interests all those pieces and we've talked about a lot of different details and there's for every thing that we chase there is a specific reason why we haven't gone and done it because we love to see the six to eighth graders in as well you know it's just it's it's frustrating and because you want to do more but sometimes you say okay this is what i've got this is what's going to work and move it forward and then and then we'll start working on the next step the next stages so i do like what karen said though maybe look at sixth grade get six the next then seven and then eight and start working on that as soon as possible once you figure out how to do it with sixth grade though you're gonna know how to deal with seventh and eighth because those systems are very similar and so i i i get that idea of kind of easing into it but i also get the idea that once you have the solution why would you do exactly what to do well it sounds like some of these were a little bit different maybe yeah that's down the road right now we need to look at what we're going to be doing now and going forward and making a decision as far as when we're going to go back in and what what plan we're going to say and i do want to say the administration has done a fantastic job and that follows the other comments you guys have spent hours and hours and hours and i know parents especially if you're watching from home it's easy to sit back and say you should do this you should do that i said the logistics of this thing is a nightmare i'm always one that there has to be a way i don't want to hear how we can't do it i want to hear how we can't do it there has there's always a solution that we need to come up with and i know there's a lot of frustration during the faculty meeting that i ended a day with family the rest of them you know i you can hear the frustration in the teachers they really want to get this done and they want to do it but you know it's kind of shocked to me too that a lot of them the sentiment was our board is not taking in their feelings into consideration and i personally want to say that you know i have the most respect and admiration for teachers for me that's the first thing for the truth i am one i want the kids back in school i think that's what's best for the kids that's why i view my job here is what's in the best interest of the kids just because i push for that doesn't mean that i don't respect the teachers i i want i don't want them to take unnecessary risks or whatever but at the same time we have to focus on the kids at the same time too with board members you guys all know we're not just dealing with one group of people the teachers or the administrators or the public or the kids we have to take all this into consideration and i know i have several conversations today with parents and a number of teachers as well that that want the kids back and you know there's there's so many different sides to this and there's no perfect deal but my goal is that i just wish we would keep pushing in the right direction even if it's baby steps i know there's also mentioned some frustration on the number of changes that we have but unfortunately that's the world we live in we have to do these changes we have to adapt we have to keep moving you know we're shooting at a moving target and we have to keep moving and adapting and you know i just uh i just want to i appreciate everything that everyone's doing you know we all have the best interest in mind and i think gregory said you know keeping the kids best you know is the best interest and what's right for the kids but if we are burning out the staff burning out the teachers we're not keeping the best interests of the kids at the front so we have got to be sure that we are really taking care of the teachers the staff the administrators so that they are able to take care of and educate those kids so i think that you know if you don't have that good back background and basic foundation of a strong staff and a healthy staff kids just aren't going to aren't going to be able to learn so yeah we keeping the teachers needs and concerns that the front is very important as much as i agree with you though education also starts at home and we gotta i can't forget about the parents i mean the parents aren't the primary educators of our kids teachers are great you guys are teaching a lot of things but it starts at home you have we have to work with our kids and take the village any other questions on the plan at this point seeing none i'd entertain a motion to to accept the plan as the administration recommends implementing the plan on february 16th tuesday following president's day motion by greg o'connor second bye second by karen anderson any other questions i have a roll [Music] lisa schumacher no karen anderson yes tammy hines yes yes john long yes greg meyer oh scott middle camp yes motion carries on to discussion i don't believe we have anything at this point board president's prerogative i just want to say talking about these going back to school plans returning to school whatever we want to call it i think taking these incremental steps is the way to go we just keep keep working towards that end and and hopefully by the end of the year we'll you know all of that is there any executive session session okay so we're going to pass that up there's no action as a result of the closed session since we don't have any on to the last time on the agenda uh german i've entertained a motion to adjourn so motioned by john second bye second by karen anderson roll call vote for me please kim lisa schumacher yes karen anderson yes tammy hines yes john mall yes craig meyer yes scott middle camp yes craig o'connor motion carries the meeting is adjourned thank you everybody you

all those in favor raise your hand asian animus thank you motion passes mrs hallam do we have any correspondence uh mr chair we do um we have a letter from eileen wilderman um and it it reads as follows uh dear mr peer genie i hope this letter finds you and your family well i write to you in response to a recent record journal article regarding our athletic director steve truffone the article dated november 28 2020 rehashes the certification lapse of football coach don drust but much of it focuses on the board of education's investigation of mr trophone and his office i was alarmed to read that there is a lack of confidence in mr tufan from board of education members as a teacher and coach for the cheshire public schools for over a decade i have observed mr trafone as my boss my colleague and an unconditionally committed member of cheshire public schools and the community as a whole i am hopeful this letter restores your confidence in mr trufone first and most importantly mr truffone's main priority is the health and well-being of our student athletes every meeting he runs leads or facilitates steve emphasizes the importance of building our teams in a way that every athlete has a role and is valued he encourages coaches to help athletes develop into the best possible people they can be he asks his coaches to be strong communicators good people positive and forthright so that the student athletes are strong communicators good people positive and forthright yes mr phone is proud of the athletes when they have strong seasons but his pride is magnified when they help others through community service or even small positive daily interactions mr tafon recognizes that sports are an effective pathway to creating model citizens of our student athletes equity amongst teams and sports has always been prioritized by the chs athletic department as a female coach of a sport that is not widely popular in our country which happens to be field hockey i feel so lucky to have mr trafone as our athletic director so many of my female coaching colleagues at other schools struggle for turf practice time for games on their multiple turf fields and to get support or questions answered despite having just one field to be shared between all of the sports i have never felt that our team was slighted for another team instead i often feel like the field hockey team has no bigger fan than mr trafan as do most of the coaches at chs he is at every single home game he knows all of my athletes well as both players and individuals and the girls on my team completely know and feel how supported they are by him as long as mr truffone is at the helm i know female sports will be well supported before he was an athletic director steve was a teacher it has never left him steve gently teaches us all how to be better people better coaches better teachers when i was an english teacher steve would pop into my classroom to talk to my students about what books they were into and to generate more interest in reading now that i teach culinary arts steve has been my go-to guest speaker for teaching how to make pizza he leads by example always he stresses the importance to coaches about the student coming before the athlete and he lives that lesson out loud finally one of my future captains for next fall said that she hopes to lead with kindness i was struck by how simple yet powerful that statement was in such a polarized world mr truffone epitomizes this on top of his already strenuous workload on a daily basis mr trifone quietly completes dozens of small tasks favors and works simply to help people around cheshire high school the only way one would ever know this is by observing him because he just does this without a need for recognition this is the mr phone that no paperwork reveal review will ever show as another teaching colleague of mine said respect is too weak of a word to describe the way that we feel to feel about mr trophone admire is a much better fit mr truffone is not just a temporary figure at chs bettering this community has been his life's work and for that much more i throw my full confidence behind him thank you sincerely eileen wilderman family and consumer science teacher and varsity field hockey coach and that is the correspondence that i have to read this evening thank you mr chick thank you madam secretary um and thank you for that catherine and i'm glad you read the whole letter into the record so uh the board has actually seen them a response to that and uh just to summarize there was no investigation of anybody by the board of ad level the investigation was done by a newspaper uh locally at the site of the foia two individuals personnel records for reasons unknown and unfortunately without the course of that you know it's you know it looks like an investigation but it wasn't so my quote about confidence has nothing to do with trophone let's take a little bit of context what it had all to do with was the process or lack thereof or tools that are needed and uh it turns out exactly the case in this case that is not the cement of the board the board has not lost any confidence mr phone or anybody for that matter so they respond you the board members has that response you know it's unfortunate that um you know personnel records you have to be foia um it doesn't you know without getting the full story it just never helps anyone so i don't get that part but eileen uh is culinary arts teacher at cheshire high school my daughter's actually my daughter nicole had her she's wonderful in fact um in my follow-up discussion with her she invited me to know that i'm a chef to come into the classroom and maybe do something interesting so if if we can i would love to try to have that the group create a uh hot chocolate bomb which is all the rage these days so we'll figure that out but i lean for us and bring it here you know while we're covering everything you know we're trying to be careful i certainly love to do those things by lean thank you so much as i sent my email to you for reaching out i'm sorry you felt the need um to feel that the board that's not the case um so thank you and i everyone shares your respect for steve um you know i'm going to put him in a spot a little bit uh sometimes i see steve triphone at 5am at our local gym and he leaves there ready anxious to get to the schools he wears his heart on the sleeve for our kids um it's never in question so again thank you for that um and i guess it's good there's no other correspondence but it's nice to get some once in a while thank you moving on um finally the much anticipated superintendent's report i i know that you guys lament the fact that you only get to hear this once or twice a month um so you know the the time is here it's very exciting uh let's go through the superintendent's report as quickly as i can uh if if i could start with yesterday uh i was very excited to be a part of a awards ceremony along with dr gad for a young man at cheshire high school vincent kai he's a junior very impressive student he's got aps all over his his course lights it's insane what he's doing and uh he was honored because he won the um coding app building competition that uh the it was sponsored by the local congressional district uh for the house of representatives and and he won our area and we'll have his work demonstrated down in washington dc later early next year and so to give you a sense of why i'm so impressed his app that he designed takes a look at all of the different socioeconomic and racial conditions uh across the state of connecticut compiles an incredible amount of data to determine if gerrymandering has occurred in voting lines for somebody who's uh 16 17 years old to develop something like that is so sophisticated not only does it speak to his incredible talent as an individual in terms of coding but his um acknowledgement of equity and uh that everybody in our country and and certainly in connecticut uh deserves a voice and so you know we were incredibly proud of him and so i find that a great way to kick things off um the cheshire ed foundation this month turns 25 years old and i would be remiss if i didn't give a a real shout out to everybody who's been a part of that group over the last 25 years they've done incredible things to forward our school system by supplementing our resources for the purpose of innovation and this year they they stepped up in a big way uh as we've talked about some of the financial needs um what could be uh unfortunately lost in that is that they're really educational needs excuse me during the course of this pandemic and so they purchased about thirty thousand dollars worth of uh classroom equipment for us to be able to outfit 10 rooms with our our audio system that the board has seen um and there's been one person who's been on that group from start to finish um marty rausch i say finish but start to their 25th anniversary marty rauch i'm sure many of you know him he's a local realtor and an absolute character and one of the best people you could ever meet um and so marty is is very active in the in the cheshire ed foundation uh i was hoping to uh acknowledge members of the cheshire ed foundation uh at a board of education meeting but we're opting to do that in person when they can be there and we can really uh give them genuine expression of our gratitude for everything they've done for our community if you're interested in learning more about the cheshire education foundation you can go to their website um and there is a article written by dennis denninger he's a professor at syracuse but nevertheless um he commutes there and comes and gives his time to the cheshire ed foundation so if you google cheshire ed foundation you can donate you can send them an email and you can certainly read the article about their uh 25 year anniversary um i i feel like i'm compelled to give a quick update on covid19 if you go to our website you can access this data i update it every school day including today even though it was a snow day you can see that you know we're actually quite fortunate in the cheshire public schools that there has been a very limited impact of covid at the building levels um we have very few staff or students that are currently positive uh and then you know uh you can see also very few staff and and students relatively quarantined highland did see a rash of cases more recently um they're starting to come off the books of quarantining and um on uh positivity but it's still you know it was really unique it was just parents actually that were sick and unfortunately their children ended up sick as a result um and so that's you know what we're looking at and so we consult with just for cod about this all the time the other covid data that we uh explore is the cdc considerations for schools so i update this every thursday when the state updates their data the state reporting period that got updated today was november 29th through december 12th the cases per 1000 100 000 excuse me in cheshire is a case rate of 42.1 per 100 000 residents last week it was 35 so you can see a pretty steep jump after uh thanksgiving uh the percent positivity on the testing rate is about six and a half percent and it was at six uh in the last reporting window so we look at those variables against the mitigation strategies i know the people of the board have seen this before but we have here we're in that moderate area for both the number of cases and the pet testing positivity kind of smack in the middle of those with a very strong mitigation program and so when you look at that against our our current data in the buildings uh that's why we are holding tight with our our current programming now that being said we also are looking toward um the the start of the new year after the holiday i'd certainly love to be able to continue to ramp up as we start the vaccination process this week healthcare providers in in cheshire were starting to receive the vaccine i'm hopeful that as weeks go by we have more folks vaccinated we continue to have very low positivity in our schools and we can start to look at the high school of in particular of bringing more students back on a more regular basis so really the biggest mitigation issue that we have the challenge that we have at chs is dining um so i'm going to be meeting with um susan loncich she's the the jesper cat sanitarian from mora's office on monday morning to evaluate our dining areas at cheshire high school now that we're strictly indoors here over the winter to see exactly how many students they feel comfortable with us fitting in there to make sure that we aren't risking uh spread of covid during dining and finally um i want to acknowledge uh jack raba and isabel orozco who are two of over 40 now chs graduates over the last several years who've come to bail us out uh we put out a letter before thanksgiving indicating that we needed subs uh they came uh to the rescue uh we have like i said over 40 recent graduates uh this is the first week in really my memory is a 15-year administrator in the district where we're not we don't have any worries about subs and we have very high demand through covid but uh the the recent graduates have stepped up and they are filling those voids and it means so much to our kids to see those recent graduates in it means so much to our staff to have their support and i hope it means something to them that they are giving back to their community they are being paid as substitutes they've received all the training they need uh but you know this is a major contribution for us and we significantly appreciate it um i think that i know that the commissioner of education and governor appreciated our innovation in designing this so i'm just going to show you a quick clip from the press conference that we did today we really wanted to talk about our schools and i'm so proud that compared to all my neighboring states connecticut your child is more likely to have an opportunity for in-classroom education than just about anywhere else in the northeast and as um jeff and fran you know shawna describe how important that is especially now for these young people in terms of their education in terms of their social emotional well-being uh in terms of public health and we cannot continue to do that as i look around the charts i look around all the different towns i see if schools are closing it's not because kids don't love going to school it's not because their parents aren't delighted their kids are able to go to school it's not because you don't have a lot of amazing teachers who um are stepping up in the classroom but it's all but it's because let's face it sometimes there could be an infection or a test and you've got to quarantine you've got to step out you're an older teacher uh you've got to um step off the battlefield so we have an awful lot of teachers who are still involved they're teaching remotely they're teaching uh via zoom but that means we've had some holes in terms of staffing in our classrooms to be blunt about it and a number of the schools that i've seen that had to close down closed down because they could not fill that void well jeff you didn't wait for step up connecticut um cheshire stood right up and um and what cheshire has done what we're trying to do around the state is they reached out to cheshire high school and they said i want to know who are the recent graduates many of them are college kids they're coming back to connecticut maybe they got some time maybe they'd like to step up and help us out and they got 35 folks who stepped up in very short order of time getting them into the classroom being there so that certified teachers teaching remotely and you've got um young people and others in the classroom able to give these kids an opportunity in what that means that's why we really want to emphasize what step up connecticut could mean follow the lead of cheshire so you know anytime that the governor is of uh and i don't care what your political persuasion is but it's always nice to hear the governor telling people across connecticut to follow our lead and you know we've certainly received many inquiries about the work that we're doing on both the local and national level uh to um learn more about this and you know we've had a number of innovations that our team has rolled out over this period and we're really proud of that work the one last thing i have to report is that you may have heard about a couple of weeks ago the cdc had introduced new quarantine guidelines more recently just yesterday as a matter of fact the connecticut department of public health released those guidelines to local health districts those revised guidelines provide a number of options at the local level to consider one option is to retain a 14 day quarantine a second option is a 10 day quarantine monitoring symptoms during that period four symptoms and then four days after the tenth day to ensure that the individual is healthy um and then they're off monitoring the third option is a after five days of quarantine you can be tested you can either have the qpr test or the antigen test in either case you cannot return before seven days so if you have the rapid test on the fifth day and it's negative in an hour you still can't return to the seventh day if you have the qpr test let's say that takes you three days you had it on the fifth day if it's negative you can return after seven days but if you don't have results until the eighth or ninth or tenth day you can't return until you get those results now that sounds pretty inviting the idea of test on the fifth day return on the seventh unfortunately however when you drill down on the data somebody who's been quarantined for 14 days has a 0.1 chance of being positive when they return somebody who's quarantined for 10 days has a 1.5 chance of being positive after their return somebody who's taken the antigen test has a five and a half percent chance of being positive and the qpr is four and a half percent when nancy stanton our nursing coordinator and i evaluated that we're charged um at the end of the day with maintaining the health and welfare of everybody who enters our buildings and we felt like at this time we are reviewing this we haven't made a final determination yet but i can tell you right now we're resting with feeling most comfortable at 10 day with a four day monitoring period because it it best ensures you know to pretty significant degree that the likelihood that people who might be sick aren't coming back and the other issue with a seven day window is now we start to get into debates about you have to track date of exposure you have to track date of test against the date of exposure and you also have to test when or track when did the results come back and we feel like there's just a greater likelihood for error there um when we're dealing with numerous you know 4 200 people plus 600 staff so um you know we feel like the the 10 days is most prudent it's pretty cut and dry when you add weekends into there it's it's still substantially reduced from the 14 day um which will help for substitutes but really most importantly getting our kids back into the building and and making sure that they're healthy when they do return or staff now we do reserve the right to hold it 14 days so for example if you're a calf employee who's had a very close contact um i may not feel comfortable with you coming back in 14 days or 10 days you know we may force you to stay out for 14 days just because of the nature of your work you're around food you're on people um it's it's not is safe necessarily we don't want to jeopardize anybody or your health so these are some of the considerations we're making i've already reached out to all the surrounding districts to kind of see what their take is on it um and it's frankly all over the map some people are saying seven some people are saying fourteen um and you know we're going to continue to do what's best for us but i'm always curious about what other people are doing and why they're thinking that um so i think we're we're more than likely to go with the 10 days but we're still evaluating that um i did email maura to get her perspective on this and it was only this afternoon i haven't heard back yet so um just wanted to put that out there in terms of where we are because i know it's a question that'll probably either come up on the forum or you'll hear about and i just wanted you to be uh just cognizant of what you know i'm thinking when we go through this process that's it for me thank you jeff questions uh tim first and ann i'm sure will be others yeah uh jeff thank you specifically with regard to the covid as i think you might be aware at least partly so my house has had four multi-day multi-kid quarantines the past two months it is painful but i trust your judgment on these public health decisions wherever you're going with it and the people you're consulting with i you know i i really was you know go back to september and i wanted fall sports to basically stop not all of them but at least more than just football because i was really concerned but you disagreed you made the call you were right as far as i can tell based on all the numbers so i was wrong on that i trust your i trust your judgment the people you're working with on the public health uh decisions that you're making so thank you yeah thanks i mean it's just i mean at the end of the day i'm making the call but i'm not any sort of epidemiologist so i have to consult with a lot of intelligent people even vin and marlene and uh there here we go oh we got you your attention so you know it's a real team effort to uh come up with these these decisions and a lot of credit to go around thanks tim and europe yeah i just want to say congratulations on the press i think it's fabulous if you can get the governor of your state to publicly say the word cheshire connecticut several times to call you out by your first name um this is fabulous and i just want to thank you and your staff because i know that marlene has had a lot to do with this and others on down the line and this is just a beautiful example of thinking outside the box of being flexible in a difficult climate and kudos to you and your and your uh staff for everything that you've done because i i'm i'm just tickled pink i think this is just great press and um and you deserve it so kudos to all of you yeah thank you i'm a little disappointed that we weren't on the cover of usa today when we traded teachers like i would have thought that was the bigger one but whatever yeah what do i know thanks sam uh adam you're up thank you uh yeah uh jeff i wanted to uh congratulate you on your accolade from the governor um you know when we when this board met back in the summer and we were deliberating on uh how what we should do and we all agreed that the schools should open as much as possible and for as long as possible and i wanted to uh commend you and and your staff on uh being innovative and really having a backbone against a a really an unrelenting pressure to close um for the benefit of our students to keep the schools open and for you and your staff to find innovative ways to uh keep our schools open and and i also want to thank the uh the recent graduates who stepped up uh and heard your call and and has allowed uh again our system to remain open by by giving you the staff flexibility uh to uh react to whatever the situation is with with the pandemic so um i just wanted to give you uh congratulations on that because i think that's really great and um and uh just on the question of the the the covet testing what is a if you're quarantined for four day for 10 days what is the four day observation period how is that different than just a 14 day corn tea the uh you'd be able to return to school um that's one of the things that i'm working out with nancy stanton would that mean during that four day window our nurse is screening you for symptoms at may i'm not positive yet so nancy and i are still trying to work that out to make sure that we have uh a safe and effective way to reduce the the quarantine period and you know i don't want to necessarily make this sound like a i'm just a mutual admiration society but i want to just take a second at least to acknowledge uh the board because you're also in the crucible here uh with a lot of a lot of pressure and people you know reaching out to you and trying to push you to go one way or another and i can't tell you how much it means to me vin and marlene in particular to know that you can put faith in us to work with the right people you don't have the time and luxury of doing this full-time not that i would call our jobs a luxury lately but what you know we are engaging more we are talking to doctors you know vin and i did a a zoom call with sean kimball and a doctor perry his last name's escaping his great guy lives in town but he works with infectious disease at yale you know we're making these calls and having these conversations and you know you guys put faith in us to make good decisions around that and i appreciate you hold us accountable um when and you know it appreciating that when things go right and and calling us out when things aren't um but i appreciate you putting that faith in us and i know i speak for vin and marlene when i say that as well so thank you it helps us to be successful that way i know andrew had a comment yeah i just want to say i saw the um the actual broadcast on the news with lamont and uh kind of gave me goosebumps when i actually saw it and um you know i've only been on this board since december 1st there's only been what three months or so of non-coven board of education service and um i have to say jeff you and your team you guys no one knew what was to happen it would have been so much easier to default to closing the schools to scaling back and not coming up with innovative ways and just to continue to build on that and continue to do what was right and like you said i've had parents come up to me and say i these kids got to get back to school and then i've had other parents who said how long are you going to keep my kid in school before they die um and one of the closest people to me is my aunt who lives down in chapel hill north carolina and she thinks we're all completely nuts she hasn't left her house since march and so she'll watch these meetings and she'll call me after like she might watch this meeting at some point tomorrow and now she's starting to see that we did make the right decision i mean we're not out of the woods yet but last week was a major turning point with the vaccine starting to hit and so we're getting closer to returning back to reality and so just congratulations to your team and you know you really put yourself out there and faced a lot of criticism and you did the right thing so congratulations thank you uh any other anyone else so jeff thank you first of all uh i was going to say um sounds like you have a new best friend in hartford can we get that reimbursement right up for uh that's a good one i think miguel's going down to dc and then jeff's gonna run away to hartford yeah you know i'm curious how um and first of all let me first say thank you um for making that happen if i recall correctly when the idea started um i believe marlene had written a letter reaching out to the graduates correct asking for or was i just hearing that yeah i wrote a letter to the graduates oh okay and i remember you know you guys are so giddy to get that out there and excited about it and uh so i knew you're onto something but what's really um i think inspiring is that we have 40 graduates that want to help and it's incredibly promising they want to come back to treasure and pitch in so i you know i hope folks watching um you know at least see it as a sign that your your public school system is doing some good things if we get our graduates to step up and you know in extraordinary circumstances so thank you for making this happen and and also thank you for the call to the board you know um you know this is what we do you know best of worst of times you know if we support each other and you know support superintendent staff good things happen so i appreciate the the kudos to the board and by no means is this a victory lap um for any of us uh but it is nice to acknowledge once know how the positive press it nice to get that these days so um as i understand it's kind of starting a national trend if you're not mistaken correct correct jeff yeah i know that like i said it's gotten national attention too and you know while i was busy recruiting um the high school graduates or alumni marlene and vin did a lot of work behind the scenes with kelly services and were able to get them to turn these uh applicants around in a heartbeat and actually get them into the classroom you know i mean record recruiting them was one part of it getting them actually into the room was certainly uh much more valuable and so they were able to do that part of it like i said it was a real team effort awesome well listen on behalf of the board of ed thank you and uh as well for a 40 and hopefully growing um graduates came back thank you for your service thank you for for helping out uh it's refreshing and lightning and and i know community can't be thankful enough because that is helping us keep the in-person learning going um and you know hopefully 2021 greatly improves uh on that so thank you any other comments or questions for superintendent stone saying it is not we're almost there folks uh we don't have old business we uh do have some new business uh item 8a on the agenda is a change of the january board meeting date namely uh the budget presentation we normally have in the first week of january from january 7th to january 14th um jeff want to give us a quick summary of why we're going to have a motion on this yeah right now you know as we've talked about through this meeting there are just so many variables impacting um our budget and you know vin did a really nice job recapping all the financial implications of govid earlier in the meeting we wanted to just buy another week after that vacation period to get a better sense hopefully have um more reports back and then put things together for the 14th rather than the seventh usually and as you know the the town council changed charter we we have a little bit more time in the spring um but we just with all the you know uh variables that are out there we wanted to just push back a week understood thank you jeff um let's bring up the motion with someone to make a motion on this motion thank you uh moved at the january 7 2021 budget presentation meeting be changed to january 14th 2021 thank you is there a second catherine seconds um any discussion seeing there is none the motion is moved at the january 7th 2021 budget presentation meeting be changed to january 14th 2021. all those in favor please raise your hands it is unanimous thank you team uh we covered 8b earlier uh chairman's update's very uh quick um we are coming up in less than a month the 21 2021 2022 budget operating budget process um so every year um i think this is a great thing there's always one or more board members you know during the budget workshops that has an idea whether it's an addition to something whether it's uh new materials uh et cetera and usually often by those meetings it's a little late in some cases to to drop something like that in there so what i might ask is any ideas you have for us for for superintendent's budget um give it to him before january 14th uh just so that you know at least has some time to contemplate it and if it's something that could possibly be accounted for in a budget we'll have it ready to discuss in the meeting so feel free to send any ideas to them um and that's pretty much it i'll cover those dates in a second uh other updates um i think we did receive from cave yesterday a day before a pdf document from the state department education's addendum that talked about the options for the 10 versus 14 day quarantine so i i don't i i'm not sure i just went to board with chairs all the border beds in general but there's a lot of detail in there that jeff uh you know didn't cover but i say check your emails if you don't have that i'd be happy to forward to you but there's a lot of backup material on the options that jeff talked about when it comes to quarantines in schools um you know i you know earlier i get a little defensive on some things namely the board being attacked and maybe attacks the worst not the right word but you know we're always going to be under criticism and you know that's that's that comes with the territory public has every op every right opportunity to that kind of question and see what what we're doing something that triggered me a little bit today was uh an editorial where you know uh given this and i don't want to be a dead horse but you know it's just it's it's one of those things that you know i'm sorry but you know the right information has to get out there in it and i think it's fair enough but again my opinion is look uh we're all for increased transparency uh within reason and i think every member of this board has been pretty responsible with that but there's just some things that we can't do so with regards to that whole certification situation in my opinion there was more enough transparency um it was never about any individual it was about process and i i cannot expect the public um especially with everything going on this past year to be attending every meeting every committee meeting looking at our public's agendas um i know some of us you know in in an unofficial capacity we try to get updates on the forums there's a lot of information out there there there is no surprise on the review process for certifications it's there um you know this is not a vendetta we've beaten that horse of death that's been um rebooted so many times even by dr solon so i have an issue with you know a media outlet asking for greater transparency and something that's already been covered ad nauseam it's not the most glamorous topic um you know certainly not as glamorous as smc where we have a lot of viewership but there's a there's a record there's meeting minutes there's videos especially going back to this year and it was never about any individuals it's about a process unfortunately for whatever reason there are people in this town that you know made that about something that wasn't and you know the issue i have with that in particular is that you know we we as a board want to ensure that our stakeholders are comfortable coming to the superintendent to to the board if need be with help and that you know they're not going to have retribution as a result because of some something even if it was valid and i think that out that um backlash from some malcontent individuals in this town going after a person's family and even individual board members or something that was just not reality is it's just bad for the school district it does jade people from you know speaking up and coming forward we've seen that you know last year when people came out in open forums to express ideas and concerns so again we're better at that this is in the community but i do take issue with the fact that the board of ed cannot discuss things and um i also have to recognize that you know the public is largely unaware of what what the legal role of border that is it is not absolutely not about investigating some personnel it's not about um going after a coach uh it's not about looking people's personnel records we can't and will not do that we've never done that so i don't know what other transparency this media outlet was calling for um especially instance in the fact that they went out and foied disciplinary records of two individuals in our school system you know i i don't know what that was about um you know it just doesn't help anybody um it's the information that we're not even privy to um and never would unless it comes before the board event in some kind of legal matter which it rarely if it all does so again i a little animated tonight because you know oftentimes we're put in a situation that the public doesn't understand you know what our limitations are as far as our role so that being said thank you for bearing with me this evening um you know but uh the public should rest assured that every single member of this board has everyone's best interests his mind uh we listen uh we can't always intervene we shepherd people to the right people in the system to get things done and you know throughout the course of that process if there are things that we can improve your policy to help everyone we work with superintendent get that done and uh you know that will never change for most of us um again so i hope really hope that's the end of it um i think it was a lot of noise over what essentially amounted to nothing and someone asked actually someone posted on on one of the forums an interesting question after reading the article last week and realizing what every issue was about the question was if that was the case then why was the public dragged through it it's a great question who dragged us through it we may never know but uh give everyone the benefit of the doubt you know the trans transparency is there you know everything's documented we have meetings eventually truth comes out and like i said earlier the process works it's fair and that being said um i don't have any more to say on the update i'm going to read some of the upcoming meeting minutes upcoming meetings for the 2021 month of january we are going to start off the year with a policy committee meeting on tuesday january 25th at 6 30 pm it will be virtual via google meet monday january 11th at 7 pm there'll be a curriculum community meeting also virtual thursday january 24th 21st 2021 7 30 p.m there will be a board of education business meeting also via google zoom and um budget season is uh right around the corner uh as you saw earlier the first budget presentation for 2021 will be given by the superintendent and that will be on january 14th at 7 30 p.m and pretty much for the rest of january there will be uh several budget committee meetings to vet that budget process and as always if anybody watching public has ideas for the budget issues concerned please send them in in fact um if you don't want to contact individual board members you can send them into the cps covet 19 at cheshire.k12ctus email address or contact office stolen we will love your input that being said um there's uh really another new business talk about since this is our last meeting as a whole board of ed body i personally want to thank everyone all my colleague board members for what has been an incredible year uh highs and lows but i think in my opinion this team is working very well together uh you all have the best interests of the community uh you're all putting in extraordinary amount of time uh people certain number of committees uh we're hearing from a number of parents where i think we're doing all the right things that we can't be doing there's always room for improvement but i want to personally thank you for uh sticking through this um and i hope you enjoy your holidays i hope you get so much needed rest uh and you will not be hearing from me at all until january so that's a positive and to dr solon and your team and carol and marlene and the entire support staff central office i can't thank you enough for the work you've been doing this past year not just supporting the board uh in the committees but also supporting our students it's not lost on anyone and lastly to everyone else in the school district all our support staff be it voluntary or paid we can't thank you enough for your dedication and um you know that being said thank you i hope 2021 is going to be a very positive new year we have a lot of great things happening uh particularly smc hopefully we're going to be coming out of covid um so let's stay tuned but again thank everyone enjoy your holidays unless there's any any other feedback um i'd like to adjourn the meeting 10.

state Scott Richards agent countyc need Chop Shop David daughters Wasing BL W and kation [Music] welcome back to the action tonight we are at Greensburg Community High School bringing you coverage of the Batesville and Greensburg girls varsity basketball game I'm Sam Bower joined alongside Luke Schuman and tonight we'll be giving you the coverage of the game Luke how do you think we can uh how do you think the Pirates can do tonight against Batesville well if you're asking me to be honest I hope they blow him out keep to a low score and overall have a good night have a good football game and make sure we're staying safe you know what I'm saying yeah the girls have been on a rooll lately they're 4-0 on the season uh took down North the cater in a tough matchup the other night um the girls didn't have their best stuff but I believe they can come out and show what they got tonight and really get a good win is not St a not going to be a really hard match up for Greensburg tonight I believe uh Greensburg is on a roll and Batesville I don't believe has won too many games this year um I think what we really have to watch out for tonight is probably a press tonight um I'm assuming they'll have a lot of a lot of fast girls um and yeah Schuman what do you think for tonight well to be honest I'm looking at the uh the program right now and looks like they got a pretty pretty short lineup here compared to our uh mostly 6 foot lineup so hopefully that works in our power as well I think we can stop them down low and outside we'll be all right I think so too the girls for us tonight against North thear we didn't hit our outside shots as we should uh Taylor Cooney and Molina Wilkinson really need to focus on their outside Shots tonight we need him to hit those and I think we'll be rolling uh Jenna Foster tonight she had a she had a good game against North theator good defense she had a good shot that game uh Jana cmer if she can get the ball in her hands with an open shot she can knock something down and keep pushing our points up also Anna West under the basket wow she's just great down there big body tall body gets in there and works down there well she knows when to get out of the lane knows when to get back in there and work for the ball uh freshman Carly Adams another tall tall freshman for us actually she's come out and shown that she can play and work hard and I think she really will and here's the three minute buzzer the game will be in action in here here in 3 minutes uh bille tonight I'm not sure they're St lineup yet but their roster is number three Katherine RAB number four Emma Wier number 12 Mela grer young number 20 Carly Pride number 30 Sarah rippinger 33 Gabrielle ston 34 Brianna Wells 40 Katie Brewer and 44 Cali Kaiser now Bates Hill is going to have some trouble stopping uh Anna West and Carly Adams tonight I would think they don't they really don't have any one over 6 foot that can guard them their tallest lady tonight is 5'9 and that is Katie Brewer uh she is a senior [Music] and uh Batesville is 3 and five in uh tonight we are 3-0 in the conference Greensburg is so Greensburg really can get it done tonight if they play their best game like I said earlier against North thear they really didn't have all their stuff um Jason Simpson I talked to him after that game and he he really didn't seem too pleased with the way they played he wanted them to come out and really show North theater up that night um and tonight he really thinks that can be the case against Batesville well Sam uh actually looking at their uh the record right now bv's three and five and we're 4-0 and Conference they're uh one- one and we're 3-0 so I feel like we definitely have the upper hand here and I would agree yeah and I we just got to got to show them who what we got I agree and here we're coming up on the national anthem and pregame pregame introductions so we'll see you here in a few minutes keep you would please rise and remove your hats as sophomore show choir members Kylie Simpson and Macy Smith sing our national anthem [Music] part [Music] Ro [Music] and [Music] [Applause] here we go we about to have our introductions for tonight's contest first for visiting Lady Bulldogs we will be introducing Beville first here starting at one forward number 30 Sarah riper Sarah riper starting at one forward another forward number 34 Brie Wells Bri Wells starting at another forward at Center number 44 Callie Kaiser Cali Kaiser starting at another for starting at one guard number three Catherine Rob Catherine Rob starting as a guard number 12 Michaela Granger and Michaela Granger starting as the next guard the Lady Bulldogs are coached by Brian HBY head coach Brian HBY and here we go for the Pirates and make some noise it's time to meet the starting lineup for your Greensburg lady pirates starting at one forward a 5'9 freshman number 10 Jana CER Jan CER a freshman starting at 1 for for the pirat 5 fo8 senior number 32 Molina Wilson Molina Wilkinson starting in for the Pirates starting at Center a 6'1 senior number 42 Anna West Anna West starting at center for the P starting at one guard a 5 fo three sophomore number 24 J Foster jna four Jenna Foster starting at guard number 20 Taylor Cooney and Taylor Cooney starting at another guard coached by Jason Simpson and here we go we about to get this game underway you know what Sam looking at their starting lineup actually the tallest person out there would be number 44 she's 5 foot eight uh and uh grade 11 and you know I think uh Anna West can actually outow her down low in the paint I believe so as well and actually uh Brianna Wells 5'9 is there oh tallest yeah I didn't see her there my bad yeah no you're good you're good and here we go for tip off officials going over all the all the pregame rules that they need to here let's hope we have a friendly match up between the two schools an West tips it in Taylor Cooney grabs the grabs the ball Taylor Cooney at the top of the key passes down to Jenna Foster on the wing Jenna Foster trying to find an open man passes it to Molina Wilson Molina Wilson's driving in passes out to janer on the left side of the wing or on the right side excuse me Molina Wilson to Jenna Foster on the left side of the wing Jenna Foster back to Molina Wilson and Molina Wilson to J cumer the Pirates have not had an open look yet uh they're working for an open look here as Jan cmer uh appears to have been fouled or the ball knocked out of bounds there Anna West dishes in for the Pirates goes down Taylor Cooney for three just off Mark Cali Kaiser will get the ball for the uh bulldogs and now Rob has the ball Kaiser has the ball now back to Rider Batesville really swinging the ball around looking for the open shot there's the drive by 30 and gets fouled by Jenna Foster you know that's a tough shot uh right there good lock down defense questionable call but we'll live with it iter her first she have two attempts at the line here only a minute and two seconds into this game she misses the first one there it is off Mark she makes a second that is riper for the Bulldogs with one point here we go Jenna Foster now has the ball to Molina wilsson she appears to be looking for something no passes to Jan CER Jan CER back to Wilson Wilson drives in but decides to go out here we go Foster with the ball now CER down to Cooney Cooney for three and there's a three-pointer for Cooney G that was a good shot and here we go rob has the ball looking dead ball Jenna Foster up on her now we have wells with the ball to Kaiser down to Young Kaiser with the ball again looking for something riper with the ball now dishes into Kaiser Kaiser goes up but gets a little tip by Anna West and back out to Rob Rob West with the ball out to Cooney Cooney now up the court quickly in transition down to Foster Cooney drives in appears to have an open shot down to an West and there's two points for the pirates that was that was a really good time right there yeah that was a good over there to the N West that was a great assist SP Cooney there here we go Batesville driving in looking for a shot nothing goes to the wing oh Rob has the ball right now rieter trying to get open she gets open and finds the open Lane and scores there's two points for the Bulldogs little breakdown of Defense by the Pirates now CO's going up the court here passes it to Wilkerson Wilkerson ski pass to Foster Foster dribbling passes it back to Wilkerson Wilson looking for the open drive appears nothing's there CER with the ball now passes it back to Wi or uh Foster Wilson with the ball passes it down to CER come to Wilkinson Pirates slowing down a little bit to find something that they can get going here we go west has the ball tipped in tipped away and here we go rob with the ball dribbles up Court Foster slacking a little bit doesn't want to get too tight on her passes it to Kaiser back to Rob Rob looking for the open open man here here we go riper with the ball bed Away by Molina Wilson great Ste and Molina wilsson she's very quick but she just loses control of the ball a little bit there still looking for something back out to Foster Cooney for three again and there's another three for Cooney three point B by Tor boy you don't want to jinx her tonight but she's two for three on the three much practice that she does all the time with the three-point shot and driving in for a li that's a really good shot by her uhhuh and she is uh committed to Grace College to play basketball out four remaining that's a good thing to good thing to do right now score is 8 to3 with four minutes of 16 seconds left in the first quarter Greensburg only has one file at the moment uh hopefully it stays Prett pretty low throughout the second or throughout the first half yeah Batesville with zero fouls uh not playing as aggressive as the the Pirates it appears um batesi just kind of slowly laying back and trying to play their defense here their game is trying to slow the Pirates down and play as much tight defense as they can here the the Bulldogs here uh they've been uh not really off to a hot start as you would say but they have they do have three points uh came off a layup and a free throw seems like Curly Adams subbed in for uh Jenna Foster actually yeah and they must be trying to conserve Foster here with her one foul quick in the game Rob up with the ball guarded by Molina Wilkinson ah back cut and two points by Young yeah that's a defensive breakdown by the Pirates there here we go Cooney with the ball at the top of the key pass down to Wilson Wilson goes for the three-pointer just misses the rim just short there uh that was a little bit of an airball but you got to keep shooting your shot don't let that ruin your confidence and here we go riper with the ball and she has an open Lane but misses the two points Adams with the rebound passes it to Cooney coone going up the court looking for the open man passes it down the West tipped Away by Batesville the ball will stay with Greensburg here number 20 Carly Pride into the Bulldog lineup and here comes Carly Pride for Batesville Sub in for uh number 34 Brianna Wells and here we go Molina Wilson into Cooney wilsson on the corner appears to have stepped out of bounds but they did not catch it the ball will stay with the Pirates and Cooney will take the ball out for the Pirates here we go west with the ball on the corner tipped Away by number three Rob Rob is off going hot going into the rim and she has two points for the Bulldogs by Rob it is 8 to S pirates with three minutes left in the first quarter Wilson with the ball just a skip pass and nobody catches it and you have to wonder here what's what's the Pirates game plan going to be going from here on out are they going to have to guard Bas All Tied or they going to have to go to a Zone because it appears right now they are just manto man oh there's a steal by Taylor Cooney dribbles in goes in hard blocking foul and she gets the and one what a drive by Taylor Cooney she's really shown out tonight for the Pirates 10 to S Pirates Cooney will have a chance at a three-point play here here come Claudia Sims and Jenna Foster in for Anna West Molina wilon for the Pirates here we go Cooney there it is she's a has a very high free throw percentage I'm not sure what it is but it has to be up in the 7s or 80s Jenna Foster returns number Rob has the ball for B bringing it up the courts down in the paint for the Bulldogs and 34 gets two points that is Brianna Wells for two basket by Wells Cooney passes it to Foster on the right side of the wing Foster travels tries to pass it to CER but CER wasn't open and she hesitated slit her feet a little bit there that was Jen no it was I know here we go B with the ball on the left side of the ring that is number 20 pride and here we go rip it your in for two points and now the game is tied at 11 all with around two minutes left in the quarter Taylor Cooney dishes it to Foster on the right side of the wing Foster looking for the open man no one appears to be open except Taylor Cooney on the other Wing here we go Carly Adams for two just off the side of the rim there and Schuman you got to think we got to be making these shots here if we want to stay in this game don't we oh yeah and we also got to learn how to rebound the ball a little bit there we go Cooney with the steel going down the court charging down there hopefully picking up a foul but she makes the shot what a what a drive by Cooney she's really shown out tonight isn't she oh yeah really uh pretty sure she has most of her points right now too she does she does indeed and it looks yes it looks like Wilkerson is about to enter the game for the Pirates once more and pride has the ball now on the left for the Bulldogs rager gets bodied by Cooney and Cooney just steals the ball away from her Cooney on a fast break once again can she get two more for the Pirates she does and the and one for the Pirates I tell you what she's really on fire right now she is she she's feeling the rce in the veins she really is got that X Factor going she really just putting her foot down and not not letting the Bulldogs even mess with her at the line shooting one Cooney at the line for a three-point play not one to Really Ever miss her free throws and again there's a switch right through the net here we go rob with the ball for the Bulldogs bringing an UPC Court just past the midline Cooney honored tightly Wier with the ball guarded by Foster down into Wells back out to Rob Rob goes for the shot but gets tipped Away by Cooney oh my goodness another steal by Taylor Cooney what a knife she's having dishes it down to Wilkinson on the wing Wilson looking for the open shot gets fouled no does not get fouled the ball gets taken [Music] away and Wilkinson commits a foul down low after the shoton her first team second number 4 wells will take the ball out for the Bulldogs Anna West back in for the Pirates in for CER now Rob has the ball bringing it up court for the Bulldogs Cooney is going to meet her at half court here playing tight defense as she wants to try to keep her contained as much as possible as she is a very quick athlete now we have wells inside with the ball double teamed and there's the shot there's two points for the Bulldogs and now the Pirates are up 16 to 13 with around 20 seconds left Cooney down to Foster on the right side of the wing Foster passes it back up to Cooney Cooney down to Wilkerson Wilson back to Cooney at the top Wilkinson has the ball once again back to Cooney and here we go the Pirates are going to try to set up something here try to get a final two or three points here before the quarter ends and we're down to 5 seconds left here and Cooney struggling to find an open man pass it to Wilson wilsson goes for the three-pointer a in and out tough scene for the Pirates here as that ball just ricocheted off and on the rim I tell you what Sam I'm actually pretty surprised right now with the Bulldogs I wouldn't think uh they would be able to hang in this long uh but we just got to play smart you know and just keep doing what we're doing we need to uh contain our defense here right now we've had a few breakdowns that have led to some layups through the Bulldogs and our health defense needs to be there uh it hasn't been there really and that's a that's a problem we had against the Chargers just a few nights ago uh what we need is when that first when that first lady gets by the uh by the up top she needs to have some help defense coming down top of the key yeah it's been a while since you played basketball hasn't it Sam uh it's been about two years so not that long actually pretty apparently I can't talk uh Schuman might have to back me up here a little bit I'm not very good as well but we'll make it work hey we can make a living off this if we really tried I think all right here we go Batesville just pass it out from the uh from the outside sideline sideline there it is there yep here we go driving in for the Bulldogs just shoots it off the top of the backboard there that wasn't really a smart shot now we have Wilson with the ball as she drives in and she's contained passes it back out to Cooney Cooney for another three-pointer off the front of the rim Adams tries to grab the ball but she is blocked out well by number 30 from basil Pride now has the ball passes it to Rob Rob fake pass now pride has the ball once again guarded by Foster Foster on her tight not letting her have an inch of space and now Adams is on oh it appears number 33 is struggling to pass yep now she passes it to pride pride to Rob and now basille trying to get something working here you know they've been getting something working pretty much every play as the Pirates have had a defensive breakdown there's a tip by West and the ball should yes the ball stays with the Bulldogs here 16 to 13 7 minutes to go in this first half ball inbounded for Bayfield but Foster is there quickly and she draws the foul Foster just her second foul number 24 within the first nine minutes of the game and she will probably be subbed in for here by CER Pride for gets Two Shots makes the first one nothing but net Granger back in for the Lady Bulldogs and C back in here we go Pride with the second shot that one just rattles in for the Bulldogs 16-5 pirates with around 7even minutes to go in the first half Cooney down to C and cmer looking to get something moving here Cooney passes back to cmer cmer doesn't really have anything open so she dishes it away and the Pirates just want to get a few points here as they need to in increase their lead here here against the Bulldogs if they want to stay in this game here we go oh the ball is off C's leg as it is a not so good pass by Cooney and there's a timeout by the Bulldogs currently the score is 16 to 15 us pirates with 6 minutes and 40 seconds to go in the second quarter Batesville calls a 30 second timeout they'll have three and Pirates need to watch their fouls here as Foster already has two and I believe Wilson has one uh that's not something you want to have early on in a game this close now the Bulldogs obviously going over some sort of game plan here uh they called the timeout to bail themselves out of a jump ball and keep the ball and the Pirates I'm sure Simpson has given them a word of advice here as they they might need it if they want to keep going here and win this game and the pirates with three fouls Foster has two of those fouls Wilkerson has one uh the Bulldogs here only with two fouls and young will bring the ball up for the Bulldogs passes it to riper Pride with the ball now looking for an open man riper with the ball once again guarded by Wilkinson Wilkinson laser focused on her here Wilson appears to have gotten fouled yes she gets fouled that's an offensive against Batesville fouls on number 30 Sarah rer her first teams third here go Cooney up court for the pirates with the ball passes it down to Wilkinson Wilson just looking for the open man but young is on her top side there uh Wilkinson getting double teamed it appears bville playing a two3 Zone to contain the Pirates oh cmer gets the pass at his oh CER turns the ball over and Cooney will get in front oh yes she tips the ball away but they call a foul on her you know what Sam I think that was all ball right there a little hard to judge it but well we're not not supposed to be biased on here but I'm going to have to go ahead and say that was not a foul well judging by the way our fans reacted I don't think so either yeah and young sinks the shot to make it a 16 all game 554 left in this half and you have to think the Pirates need to get something going here young for her second free throw attempt and she makes it and the Bulldogs take their first lead here 176 Bulldogs 5 minutes 50 seconds left Pirates need to get something going here if they want to win down to West yes a foul on 34 or 44 my bad that is Kaiser foul to number 44 Cali Kaiser her first wilon will take the ball out for the Pirates and here's a 30 second timeout this timeout Sam I'm going to uh mention the boys game coming up on Tuesday versus North decada make sure you tune in and watch it and you might be able to hear me once again on that live stream they'll have four timeouts remaining probably won't be hearing for me again but no probably not this is experience of a lifetime I got to say so far yeah oh yeah definit definitely different well a little bit different isn't it different being uh doing the play bypl than uh actually watching the game do what you're doing right now huh I couldn't do what you're doing right now yeah I don't know I don't even think I'm good at it so there's that all right here we go referee's about to pass the ball to Jana CER to throw it in Cooney cuts down below the basket the ball's passed into her right at the Baseline Cooney moves it up passes to CER at the top of the key Wilson now has the ball at the right side of the wing dishes down to Anna West Anna West spins around tries to find Space gets in oh shoots it off Carly Adams with the rebound what a good board by Carly Adams goes back up off this right side of the rim [Applause] here we go young for the Bulldogs bringing the ball up Court guarded by Cooney screen off and there's a jumper off the rim and there's Anna West using her tall or using her height to her Advantage there Cooney bringing the ball up for the Pirates pass it to Wilkerson CER now has the ball back to Wilkerson here Wilkerson with the skip pass to Cooney and Cooney will have a three-point attempt off the front of the rim but Wilkinson tips the ball away and Kaiser gets it for Batesville you know what saying that was a deep three for her I'm surprised she didn't make it I know she's she's been on tonight and I believe that puts her at three for six on the night which is a good field field goal percentage 50% very good better than I ever did yeah me too that's for sure and there's young for three just off the side of the rim and the Pirates should yes they let this ball go I think Anna West right there was a little confused on whose ball that was I'm glad she didn't T it I know that would have been a bad deal for the Pirates wouldn't have been yep and here we go there seems to be a little sweat on the ball as we're wiping it off 434 left 1716 Bulldogs have a lead here not quite a demanding lead with only one point and the Pirates will look to climb back on top here in this possession here we go CER now has the ball passes it to Wilkinson Wilkinson to Cooney and Cooney down to West and West to Wilkerson Wilkinson goes up no foul called but Adams with the rebound and she gets she draws the foul I'll tell you what Molina Wilkinson driving in the paint she scares me like whenever my freshman when we used to scrimmage them she's she goes in there hard and fast she does and she is so quick on her feet as well very agile and very quick little confused on what the uh Baseball fans are yelling and uh Adams offt Target with her first free throw attempt has one more left hopefully she can sink this one for the Pirates here we go it's up and it's off the right side of the rim Wilson trying to fight for the ball out of bounds by Batesville that was a nice job by Anna West but uh keeping her hands hands back and not touching that ball it was indeed yes and Wilson will take it in bounds for the Pirates pass it to West West goes up with it can't quite get it CER there for the rebound two points by CER Pirates up 18 to 17 looks like we're doing a little uh trap defense right now yes the Bulldogs are pressured full court by the Pirates now looking for the running gun here and the Bulldogs oh that's a double drible pass to herself what was she thinking I thought that was a double dribble but no the ref sometimes called a double dribble or a travel it depends on what they want uh it can be scored either one and here we go Cooney with the ball down to cmer and cmer came up big for the P's last possession with the board and two points and Cooney to cmer CER at the right wing and here we go cooner Cooney with the ball pass into Wilson w won drives in gets fouled what a good drive by Wilson what a good pass by Cooney wasn't it oh yeah see if she can knock down some of these free throws for us Bri Wells her second Team Six Wilson first one up and rattles in and out of the rim Emma wer in for the Lady Bulldogs and number 20 Carly Pride checks in for the Lady Bulldogs and here we go pride in for the bulldogs and hopefully Wilson can sink this next free throw to put the Pirates on top by two points and there it is swish nothing but net 1917 pirates with three 330 left in the half Wilder with the ball pressured by Wilkerson ancer trap oh right off the leg and into the face of Wier there's some action for you number 44 KY kie Kaiser think that's I think that might have been the most violent thing we're to see tonight yeah it might have been that was a really hard kick right off the kneecap into the face oh yeah nose has to be throbbing a little bit after that one and there we go a fake pass by Batesville that's the way you beat the Press riper with the ball passes it to Wier Wier dribbling right hand pass it to pride pride now passes it to Young guarded by West Pride now has the ball once again guarded by Wilkinson tries to get it in there to Kaiser and west west should have left her left her be uh she gets the and one Kaiser does these refs are quick to call fouls tonight I will tell you that well I that that was definitely a foul down there it had to have been she swatted pretty hard and didn't go straight up and got her arms uh Kaiser hopes to sync this to put the uh Bulldogs up by one and it's offt targeted and then game is is now 19 all with 250 left in the half Wilson now has the ball passes it to Cooney Cooney at the top of the key goes down to wilsson once again wilsson with the skip pass to cummer cummer receives it at the top of her head pass it down to Cooney Cooney not left open this time skip pass to Wilkerson Wilson drives in goes for the two points and the ball is off Batesville no that was a really uh it was aad call right there that was a bad call the rest they definitely missed that one I'm not sure what they were thinking or looking at honestly there's a three-pointer by Wier off Target wilkon oh Wier is quick as well Wilson dribbles crosses over gets the two points for the Pirates what a big two points 2119 with around 2 minutes left here we go Kaiser with the ball pass it down to oh oh come there's another foul by West and the Pirates are one by one one being taken out of this game with their fouls team at the line shooting one and here we go both teams with six fouls and both teams with 21 points riper up with the shot and it's in and that gives the baits that gives the Bulldogs a 22 to 21 lead number4 Sims will check in for West here and we need someone to take the ball out the ball is put down in the count is started by the official here we go Cooney with the ball now dribbling up court and it appears young will meet her at the top of the key Wilson passes it to CER CER to Sims Sims hasn't seen a lot of action in this game she's seen about a minute and hopefully she can know what's going on and really help the Pirates out right here once again West and Foster both in foul trouble so the Pirates are down in numbers cmer goes for the three-pointer just off Target Sims gets the Ball but does not have the chance to go back up SIMs back out to Cooney and now CER with the ball Cooney dribbles in passes out to Wilson Wilson goes for the three-point attempt off the rim and the ball is appears off the hands of Cooney and so this one will be batesville's ball Batesville 22 to 21 with 130 left in this half wer crossing over spinning around and here we go riper looks for the open Lane but there's none there young fakes and goes for the oh goes through the floater but it is not go and pride there for the quick two points by the by the Bulldogs one minute left to go and Pirates are down 21 to 24 CER into the lane for Wilson Wilson goes up but cannot draw the foul and I'm not sure to be a little getting a little frustrated with th with those uh calls yeah with those calls I would agree there and here we go just another open Lane for the Bulldogs the Pirates need to figure something out and the ball is off the hands of uh Kaiser it appears and the Pirates will now have the ball right now we are trailing by three points to the Bulldogs we both have six fouls with 41 seconds to go Wilson passes to CER cmer to Adams and now Cooney is at the right side of the Baseline and Wilson back to Cooney and appears the Pirates are just trying to let the time run out at the end of this half here we go Cooney now has the ball inside the paint back out to Adams Adam goes through the two-point attempt and it's good basket by Adams man what a good shot by Adams right there just had the open shot and took it she went for it and that was a beautiful shot straight in and we've seen her shoot those shots uh against against the Chargers they just go right in and there's Wier with the reverse layup for two points shot is Off the Mark and I've been Sam Bower for this first half joined alongside Luke Schuman and we will see you after half time [Music] he [Music] he [Music] hey [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] hey yeah [Music] he [Music] he [Music] hey yeah [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] he [Music] oh he [Music] and welcome back to the action as we have one minute left until the half starts um my name is Sam Bower joined alongside Jaylen Woods here uh Luke Schuman had to had to go somewhere so now we have Jaylen Woods a much better commentator and friend hey I appreciate that appreciate that Sam it's uh nice to know that it's going to be uh it's a good first half what do you think we need to work on uh the Pirates what do you think they need to work on you know I think it's just uh the defensive breakdowns might be a little bit of a problem and I feel like uh our boards our boards aren't as strong as they were Tuesday against North dear I think we just need to get our rebound together and in order I agree Jaylen and I'm sure Jason simpon our head coach went over in detail what the Pirates had to do as they did not come out until about a minute 30 left in the half so they were in there for a long while with Simpson probably really giv them the best game plan he has uh Batesville has really come out strong and shown what they can do I don't think the Pirates expected this to be a tough game like this uh I think they came out expecting to be able to walk all over bille and that could have been the problem tonight couldn't have been Woods absolutely yeah no I don't I don't think they came out as strong as they did against North I think they were a little bit timid after this yeah I agree and uh as Cooney now dribbles the ball you know the Pirates need to look for the open man and Wes appeared to be open in the middle there and now the ball goes to Adams or who yeah Adams and Adams gets two points for the Pirates basket by Adams 2625 Bulldogs with 730 left in this third quarter here and here we go young with the ball passes it to riper riper guarded tightly by Wilson Adams on the wells down to Kaiser Kaiser just shoots it right over the basket and here we go Wilkinson just off she is going fast and just just misses the rim there and here we go steal by Cooney as she has all game and she throws up the two point of 10 but it does not go and you have to think if she would have driven in there she could have drawn a foul or something couldn't she have probably and that does seem like the theme of tonight it just seems like we're just not hitting our shots like we usually do you know I agree and we struggled to hit our shots just a little bit against North dear but nothing nothing like tonight no it just seems like nothing that we shooting up is going in tonight I mean Cooney started off pretty decently but I mean since then she just hasn't been on and here we go Foster tries to get the rebound but Kaiser grabs it for the Bulldogs and now Rob has it for the Bulldogs dead ball passes it to young young goes for another three-pointer and she has missed every single one she's taken tonight West is open down on the Block goes up there's two points for the Pirates by West 27-26 the Pirates take a one-point lead with six minutes left in this third quarter Rob with the ball guarded tightly by Foster and there is a timeout by the Bulldogs this will be a full timeout and Jaylen let's go over what the Pirates have done well to start this second half two you know I think they they really contain the defense there uh as the Bulldogs have not scored this half yet and the Pirates have put up four points yeah absolutely it just seems like uh our Pirates just came out a little bit more aggressive uh this second half it seems like they are uh doing their fundamentals uh still a little bit of mistake something that they need to work on I'm sure Simpson is going on over in in the Huddle but other than that it just seems like the Pirates are coming out more aggressive and more ready tonight than they were or this half than they were the first half yeah I agree I'm sure Simpson really gave him a probably talking to him there wouldn't you think yeah probably s Simpson Simpson's known to be an animated guy you know uh so I'm sure I'm sure he's got his talking and here we go we are back to the action and riper will take the ball out for the Bulldogs and here we go the ball is just thrown over the half court line and now Rob has the ball pride has the ball now for the Bulldogs not sure what to do with it but guarded tightly by Cooney Cooney on her tight right now not letting her get the ball off going for the 5-sec count but pride gets the ball off now Rob has the ball goes in for the two points blocked by Cooney Wes grabs the ball oh off her foot and into the Batesville uh batesville's Kaiser's hands you know and something that hasn't been talked about enough is CO's defense Cooney has been on point with her defense tonight uh having about five five blocks by now and a countless amount of steals yes she her she is on her opponent and here we go batesville's coach obviously not happy as he calls a 30 second timeout and we can hear him from up here can't we Batesville 32 time out they'll have one timeout remaining really giving a Stern talking to to his girls here he he seemed fired up about something hopefully they come out uh even better after that timeout here we go Bulldogs in stack formation of course you never know which way they're going to split off and Rob just goes back to the half court and that's all they do Foster guarding Rob tightly passes it to pride pride had the open shot but didn't go for it maybe she's just not an outside shooter but Rob has the open Lane and misses the left hand layup Kaiser goes up for two and gets it now the Pirates Trail 28-27 basket by Kaiser Cooney loses control of the ball then Rob goes for it but falls out of bounds so that's a bailout for the Pirates there isn't it absolutely she was in trouble there for a second she just got a little lucky now the Pirates hope to keep everything under control of this possession and down to West on the Block West has nothing going for out to Wilkerson Wilkerson has the drive open goes up for the floater there's the end one for Wilkerson that's the aggressiveness that she has shown over and over again able to draw fouls able to get the easy bucket and get the uh get the and one with it and really able to beat anyone in this court on a foot race honestly and there's Wilkinson nothing but net for the free throw 30 to 28 Pirates lead with 4 minutes and 40 seconds left in this half or my my bad third quarter rieter has the ball for the Bulldogs dishes it down bonei another steal and here we go Wilkerson going in and no Wes gets the ball and it's fouled for Two Shots Wilkinson really just showing her speed off there that was just a great great way of uh Anna West trailing behind uh just in case staying aggressive with it and getting that board and coming back down and going up for the shot and if your head coach Jason Simpson you really have to be pleased with the previous two possessions the Pirates have had they've made a lot happen absolutely it seems like they're being more efficient more careful with the ball than they were uh around the first and the start of the second half and the Pirates now take a four-point lead checks in for the Lady Bulldogs Emma wer in for the Bulldogs now four minutes 30 seconds left in this third quarter Pirates lead 32-28 and there's a kickball violation by the Pirates the Bulldogs will take the ball out on their side of the Court not pressured by the Pirates until they get to half court where Wilkerson is guarding Wier tightly Wilson hoping to force a turnover here as Wier appears to be struggling a little bit and Wier gets the ball off to Kaiser Kaiser gets the ball off to riper now riper down to Kaiser but nearly misses the pass and the ball about goes out of bounds Foster guarding rieter tightly not giving her an inch of space and there goes the ball out of bounds great defense by Jenna Foster yeah that just shows our Pirates defense in second half it really seems like it just turned into a different level uh at the start of this half it did you have to think we weren't showing our full potential there in the first half and maybe not even showing her full potential on defense yet but really showing out on defense now no I guarantee you that's one of those things that uh had to talk to his girls about as Wilkinson gets the left-handed layup there two points again for the Pirates 3428 with 3 minutes and 40 seconds left she wanted a foul there and I'm not going to say she's wrong yeah I'd have to agree with you there and she's just a a Helen on defense here as the ball goes down to Kaiser and she loses control of it and they call a foul that does seem like uh that does show a little bit difference between our bulldogs and our Pirates it just seems like ever since this uh second half has started our Bulldogs have uh been a little bit more Reckless with the ball than our Pirates yes I I would agree uh CER checks in for foster here as Foster picks up a third foul and she's been in foul trouble pretty much all game and hadn't get to hadn't gotten to play as much as she would have liked and there we go west pressures Kaiser very tightly and Kaiser throws it off the top of the backboard ball down to West she receives it oh just in and out for West it's a good way of staying big and getting that foul exactly and she went up strong hoping to get that basket but she went up too strong it looks like West off Target right side with that first free throw attempt Bri Wells back for the Lady Bulldogs Wells and FIS are here for the Bulldogs and here we Go Hopefully West can sink this next free throw up and in nothing but net and now wer bringing the ball up the court Wilkinson pressuring her in front of half court here but Wier gets the ball off to young young guarded tightly oh there's a screen on Cooney oh and there's a cut the Pirates just missed rieter cut right in front of their faces and that's something that just can happen every once in a while you can't blame them for letting that happen as even good teams let those slip absolutely it just seems like they were tired on defense uh that whole possession just one little error uh for an easy basket yeah and Cooney just skipping back and forth with Wilson Wilson goes up for the shot Cooney is down there for the rebound and gets two points H by Cooney good awareness by Cooney ah exactly she just was fed that shot in and blocked her blocked her guy out and there's his pick by Wilson Wilson bats it away gets the ball back uses her speed to her Advantage goes up and one for Wilkerson by [Music] [Applause] Wilkerson we've said it countless and countless of times the aggressiveness by wiers it's unmatched just amazing unmatched by Batel unmatched by virtually anyone in this conf shooting one and here we go bsing up with the shot and it rattles around the rim and falls in Pirates now take a somewhat demanding lead for what this game has been 40 to 30 with two minutes around two minutes left in this third quarter young driving to the basket help defense is there she throws it off the side of the rim Cooney with the ball dribbling up the court nothing available to drive for now CER with the ball passes to wilsson Wilson goes in gets another two points for the Pirates erson doesn't seem like she's going to miss when she comes in the paint huh Sam no she just shoots that ball up there and knows exactly where to place it and the Pirates now take a 12-point lead 42 to3 with 1 minute and 40 seconds left in this third quarter Bulldog swinging the ball around and bat loses control of it and apparently it's off the foot of CER number three Catherine Rob back in for the Lady Bulldogs and boy we've got a bird's eye view from up here and we could definitely tell that the ref had missed that call yeah I'm not one to uh blame a lot on the ref but that was definitely a Miss call by the way yeah they're just doing their job and sometimes they miss things Bulldog's getting some ball movement West grabs the ball after she blocks 34 Wells Cooney slowly dribbling the ball up Court dishes it to Wilkinson very quickly wil to here we go Wilkerson has the ball on the corner down to Cooney Cooney for three points off the front side of the rim and rager with the rebound for Batesville and you know the Pirates have just proven to be way stronger this half as they have not allowed the Bulldogs more than four points in around 8 minutes and there's a complete swap by Cooney Cooney goes in shoots the shot and there's a foul by nsce I mean I've said it over and over again but these girls aggressiveness it's just unmatched Cooney with the uh great defense which she's been showing all game but it seems like even at the start of this second half she just had a uh fire under her but and has been playing great and C C comes back in for the Pirates and West checks out Rob with the ball for the Bulldogs and here we go Bulldogs looking to get something going as they haven't here in a few minutes here we go Batesville down around 15 seconds here bat looking to get something dishes it down into the paint now young oh Taylor Coy gets out there quick on to Young there's a batted ball by the Pirates 4 seconds left Pride goes for the three-pointer and it's in CER had a contested shot there uh but Pride just proved to put it in a very much needed shot for the Bulldogs right there yes indeed uh as the Bulldogs now Trail nine 42 Bulldogs 33 and here in just a few minutes we will get the fourth quarter underway what would you say that the uh Lady Pirates are doing differently uh from the start of this half to uh the the first half of the game well I'd say for one to point out one of the obvious is is Wilkerson she is just driving and getting those buckets for the Pirates drawing those fouls uh and and number two their defense we haven't had as many defensive breakdowns as we did in the first half um the Pirates really decided to come out heated in the second half and give Batesville all they have and I'm sure the Pirates will give it all they have left here in this game uh Jaylen anything to add uh no I think you uh you hit all the points uh what I would say so I I I would agree their defense is uh number one in my opinion it just seems like they have come out completely different this half I would agree and pride will take the ball out for the Bulldogs Rob with the ball for the Bulldogs Foster is yes Foster is about to check in for the Pirates and that ball is off Young's leg Cooney bats it off her leg and now the Pirates have possession Jenna Foster in for the lady pirates Cooney to Foster Foster probably caught a fresh breath of air here with all the time she had to sit for those fouls Wilson with the skip pass to Cooney looking to get something going into Adams down low Adams with the skip pass to Wilson Wilson for three and it's good pirates still back their 12-point lead Bulldogs looking for some action here and that Ball's just where's the ball going to go back to the Bulldogs I think the Bulldogs are going to need to do something different on defense here if they want to stay in this game uh the Pirates have just been dominant this half knock on wood but young dishes the ball on the Rob to Pride Adams tight on Pride here Wilson not letting young get anywhere Foster on Rob pretty tightly as well as the Pirates as we mentioned are tightening up their defense count begins and there's going to be a count no not a count of five as Rob gets past Foster Cooney with the rebound as it is tipped by West and into Cooney's hands Cooney appears to lose control of the ball a little bit and there is no foul called because she did not have possession of the ball completely now she knocks the ball away from Robin that's something we've seen from Cooney all night number 30 Sarah riper and number 44 Callie Kaiser in for the Lady Bulldogs and here we go Pride open for the Bulldogs dishes it down and Foster bats it away but they call another foul fouls number 24 Jenna Foster her fourth teams third and here we go the Bulldogs will take the ball out nobody appears to be open passes it back court Wilkinson grabs the ball goes in for the left-handed layup and you have to think that's a guarantee at this point when she's on a fast break absolutely it just doesn't seem like she's going to be missing anytime soon no it doesn't lady pirates caller timeout it's a full timeout they'll have three timeout Pirates take a demanding lead 14 points 47 to 33 uh with 6 minutes and 20 seconds left in the game uh from here on out what do you think the Pirates need to do to keep up this lead you know I think they just got to stick to their game plan uh stick to what they have been doing since the start of the second half you know just it doesn't seem like they're doing anything really too too wrong and it it's obviously paying off for them yeah I agree um Pirates really just I mean if we said it once said it a million times coming out strong really [Music] and here we go the Bulldogs pressured by the pyat full court they find an open man and it's cut off by West and the ball is off West legs West's leg it appears ball gets inbounded for the Bulldogs looking for some action here as young is dribbling around and passes it to Kaiser here we go riper down low and misses the two-point attempt Cooney rolling away with this ball pulls it out just to side and Cooney or Wilson Corner three my bad Batel with the rebound here here brings it up Court young goes for the three-pointer yet another miss it just seems like she's throwing something up just to get this game uh going the opposite way doesn't it yeah I would agree there uh she's just not really going for accurate good shot attempts and there's Adams with a tough highly contested shot two points for her Pirates up 16 West with the rebound as the balls shot off the hands of Kaiser Pirates appear to be running a play here as they want to slow the game down a little bit because they have such a demanding lead and Basel with the rebound off Cooney's three-point attempt everyone back for the Pirates on defense ball gets batted Away by Cooney once again and boy she's had so many steals tonight as she has another two points for the Pirates 18-point lead no what a game for uh Cooney and Wilkerson tonight Bates Hill just appears to be on The Struggle Bus right now don't they yep and there's the well needed timeout by bates's head coach full timeout and uh we have a minute to talk here their final time out so what's what's been the Pirates a full time out who's been their key player tonight with shutting down the defensive side of things you know uh you got to give credit to Wilkerson you know she's been uh super aggressive going down uh getting those buckets getting those andn ones but all together I would say uh Cooney is the one that is that is holding down this team right now it just seems like everything she's doing it just seems like it's for the team and she is doing uh she's just being so selfless with the ball and I can't help but mention Molina Wilson's play in the second half here uh she's really turned around this game for the Pirates too and I believe she's had around eight or 10 points here in the second half alone yeah it just seems like uh like we said if she's getting in the paint she is not missing no she is not um and just over halfway left in this fourth quarter until the game is over pirates with a demanding lead 5133 Batel inbounds the ball Rob has it Cooney honor tight once again here we go a fresh face in for the Bulldogs number 23 and there's a foul by CER that's something you just can't do in a game this this far apart um it appears uh young is having a little trouble on the sideline there as our athletic trainer Kevin Fields is coming to see if she needs some assistance riper makes the first bucket for the free throw attempt and here we go riper for the second attempt it's up and it's off the back of the rim Adams with the oh no Adams tips it away it will remain bits ball and here we go Batesville has an open man she dribbles down passes it back out to 33 33 to Rob Rob to riper riper goes for the three-point attempt and it's off the back of the rim Wilson grabs the ball what a rebound for the Pirates as she passes it to Cooney now and you would think the Pirates would try to slow this down but West is wide open down low and that's just something the Bulldogs can't afford to be doing right now no not at all they really need to figure out a game plan for their uh for the Pirates offense I agree and it might be too late in this game to figure one out unless they just start hitting a bunch of three-pointers as we see right here basket by Wells yeah uh those three-pointers are going to add up big here late in the game uh but the pirates still have a 16-point lead and Wilson goes down to the post low to West and there's a foul on the floor the two points does not count for West as the foul was before she shot the ball fouls to number 34 Bri Wells her third 15 foul and here we go Foster enters the game once again for the Pirates hoping not to pick up a fifth foul the Pirates ball inbound Tooney down low to West hoping to draw the foul she goes up for two and the and one hoping to stretch the Pirates lead to 19 points once again here heram foul West at the line shooting one and here we go Kaiser back into the game for the bulldog bulog and it appears young has come back out of the locker room for the Bulldogs West drains that a three-point attempt and now the Pirates are up top by 19 and here we go B B swinging the ball for some action swings it to Rob Batel just passes it to rider rider down low West guarding Kaiser tightly Kaiser does not have a shot back out to Rob Foster on Rob trying to play a little less aggressive here so she doesn't pick up another foul and Cooney can play as tight a defense as she want as I believe she maybe only have one or no fouls in this game tipped Away by Wilson Wilson goes up for it ball batted away oh batted back in bounds by Batesville specifically Kaiser back down open man rater down low breakdown of Defense by the Pirates yeah I mean it just seems like they were covering them tight all uh that whole possession but uh after that little fumble with the ball they just found an open hole and here goes the ball back out to wilon as West two-point attempt did not go Foster back out to Cooney as she looked for the shot but did not take it and here goes Wilson fakes the shot dribles back to Foster Foster does not have time to shoot passes it back to wilon will she have time to shoot she looks like she's guarded not that tightly and the Pirates just looking for some ball movement here uh they're looking for a layup or something here and should stay Pirates ball and here comes wer back in for the Bulldogs Cooney will Unbound the the bald West here uh back up to Wilson and the Pirates shoot a three ah Cooney just off Target over the back foul called by Adams uh not something you something you can give up this late in the game but not something that's relatively wanted um but you can't blame her for being aggressive no that uh that that was probably her second one in this half isn't it uh maybe in this whole game uh she's played quite a game tonight uh it's had a few jump shots that have fallen in and just all all around just a good game for her uh that's number 44 Carly Adams a freshman and there's a foul by Wilkinson I believe maybe her second number 32 Molina wilon her second Team Six yes her second foul and we have just reached the two-minute Mark left in this game 5639 Pirates uh the Bulldogs just running a three out two in motion here riper goes up Cooney with the rebound and you have to think the Bulldogs might be falling off a little bit here as Cooney goes in and draws the foul nope there's a charge called on Cooney fouls a number 20 Taylor Cooney her second 17 you know what and that's all right you can't blame her for being as aggressive as she has been tonight no absolutely not it just seems like that's what's been working for her so why Why Stop Now yeah exactly and I believe that's her first charge she's picked up all game with all the dries and steel she's had so what a game by Taylor Cooney absolutely she just been she's just been seeing like she's been uh playing as hard as she can and it's obviously play paying off for our Pirates hand straight up by West and Kaiser off the side of the rim Cooney to wilon Wilson three-point attempt up and off the front of the rim just missed and here we go Foster trailing riper goes up for two points and a 10 basket the Bulldogs here uh still down by 15 but have had two quick baskets in a row uh only only around 40 seconds left here in the game and I do not think they're going to pull ahead in this one pirates have it in the bag I think there goes west for two points up no good Adams with the rebound gets it batted out of her hands and and as we are in the final 30 seconds of this game we just want to remind you that we will be bringing you coverage of the boys game at home versus North thecar this upcoming Tuesday that that will be a good game I'm assuming so be a good match up Pirates versus Chargers a little bit of boys action and I don't think we've brought you boys basketball yet so and here we go winding down to the final seconds here of the game pirates have been the story of this one I have been Sam Bower joined along long
