members in a board in attendance president Corin alera present vice president Andres Quinto present clerk Ernesto veano here member Linda Chavez present members of administration superintendent Dr Bower present thank you and at this time um I would like to ask those who are able to join me to stand for this the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America America and to the Republic for which it stand one nation under God indivis with liberty and justice for all thank you and with that um I do want to acknowledge you know what we're all going through as citizens of this nation um and those of us that live here um unfortunate times that we're going through but as Leaders of this community I do want to remind folks that you elected us and you um have us here to to continue to do our job and uphold um what we were sworn in to do uh I will continue to uh do my job and represent you um you know which includes my daughter you know I and and I don't hold that lightly um in the easy times and in the hardest times be at the front lines and so um you know we're all in this together uh we will get through these times you know pandemic and whatever else comes um at us and um we will continue to Prevail and be stronger hopefully because of these things you know there's certain truths that are coming out you know and some of us didn't want to see them and so now I think we're seeing them and um at the end of it all I think you know um I look forward to continuing to just be a stronger Nation kind of like a metamorphosis of when the the caterpillar you know turns into something beautiful we got to go through that um pain unfortunately and so um I look forward to uh healing for our nation um and each and every one of us and our um from our small community here to our nation overall um and our world uh so I I look forward to continuing to be uh the president of this uh District of of this board um and lead and do my piece um in that healing um so that we can continue to represent our children in the best way possible uh possible for generations to come uh with that I'll go ahead and go to um the first item or I'm sorry second item close session um we will be breaking uh for close session um and roio uh just read out um all the the agenda correct you don't have to do that all you have to do is ask for a public comment on any of the items listed on the Clos session agenda okay thank you uh so at this point uh if we have any public comments at this time for any of the items in the closed session um after I'll turn it over to you do we have any public wanting to speak any members none Madam president okay thank you so at this time uh we will adjourn and be in close session till approximately um Dr Bower six six o'clock would that give us sufficient time I think so okay so let's say 6 PM um and then we'll see you all back here at 6 pm thank you e e e okay I see Ernesto okay three of us are here um and then as soon as I see roio go ahead Linda okay now it's popping up I just needed to rename it thank you uhuh I see you um thank you okay and we have Mr Rio so roio I'm going to go ahead and um pass it over to you as soon as you're uh unmuted um and then wait hopefully for Andreas to come back you have a quum so uh there are no close session actions to report thank you um and we do have a quorum so we'll go ahead and uh move forward I sure and is um logging in here um as I explained the process just uh I know many of you were uh at our meeting where we talked about the questions and the process I'm going to go over that process again um just to uh bring our candidates and public um up to speed in case anybody missed that meeting uh and so just want to confirm I know um marel you were going to confirm that our candidates are here um I and I believe they are present um one of them might not be available by video but that they are present can you confirm that yes they I saw them earlier they were both here let me double check really quick perfect um yes they're both present okay okay so I'll go ahead and review the process um we have a total of five questions that as a board we came up with uh at our last meeting um we had a lengthy conversation about each question and so we're going to have each candidate respond to each question uh we're going to give each candidate three minutes to respond marel will begin the timer after each question is read by myself and then we were allow we will allow three minutes um time to answer uh we do have two candidates total um so what we'll do uh is we'll go by ABC order uh based on their names um and we will have the other candidate that's not answering at the time um we will have them exit the zoom virtual room um and then connect with them communicate with them to Maribel um and or afar will help us communicate with them to come back in um to then have the next person answer the same questions um Dr Bower is there anything I know you and I talked a little bit about this um is there anything that I missed I think we just need to alert the P that the board is going to be scoring the applicants uh on each of the questions and scoring is going to be um available so that that you know the the public will know how the the applicants were scored yes thank you so much for that um so we have created a a form um avar has sent each of uh the board members uh form the last um one that's been updated uh was at 525 board members and we will then um input our our points um into so each question will be answered and we will have uh we will give a score um and we will enter it on this form per candidate um at the end of putting each score on there we will then hit submit and it will go to afar um at in the live uh so he will receive our scores and then at the end just T tell the scores and we will then determine who our next uh trustee will will be um in regards to the scores um it will be zero being obviously that you know we're giving them zero so uh we use if you can see this as like a you know a through F scoring system you know where f is uh you know the worst being zero um uh so the a being the best so if you can see it in that order um board members do you do any of you have any questions in regards to scoring go ahead Linda B I heard you say a and then I heard you say numbers are we doing numbers or alphabets is it isn't it easier to do just numbers we're doing just numbers but I was just trying to give like a t like for at least for me it helps like an F is like the worst right so that would be a zero and then the a is the best so that would be a five so we're doing numbers I was just kind of giving an example more for myself okay so we're sticking to numbers we're sticking to numbers zero to five um any other questions by any of the other board members nesto my question is not specific to scoring so I don't know if you um yeah go ahead let uh well there's I have a question and a clarification one the question is are we on item 401 already oh good 301 um because I think my the the clarification comment that I have briefly is on 401 but I don't want to go there if you I don't know if you were just providing some instructions at the top but then we're going to move into 3.01 and then get us into 4.01 after that thank you Ernesto um yeah you know what let's come back to three I still oh I didn't see um Andes but he is in there somewhere and um I'm here yeah thank you uh yeah let's come thank you uh for th those those clarifying questions anesto let's come to three let's go back to three and then um we'll go ahead and go into four um yes so um with that outar do we have any uh members of the public who wish to address the board at this time m madame president this is Roo may I make a comment sure with with regards to public comment your board policy 932 I'm sorry 9223 says that the opportunity for public comment will uh will be to provide Community feedback on uh after the applicants uh statements uh about their qualifications um and so um since this is a special meeting it the order doesn't matter so much but I believe that public comment should be after after the interviews of the candidates and before the votes okay so is it okay uh to shift our agenda at this time or do I ask do we need to have a for it formally done no that it's fine to take public comment as part of four okay so 4.02 uh I mean after 4.01 yes okay okay so then I will come back Ernesto if you can go ahead and ask your questions now actually I just had a a clarification that I wanted to make briefly for the community because I did get actually two um questions or or two messages um with with regards to our process and so you know I want to reiterate that I I I thank the rest of my colleagues and staff for us being very transparent about our process um and the last meeting we kind of literally went step by step about how this was going to happen um unfortunately somehow there I think there was misinformation that still got out to the community that we at some point had the opportunity to appoint someone um and unfortunately or fortunately for me because I believe in following a process we do have a process in place in our bylaws that's um actually above and beyond even what sounds a unified or or east side Union we all have the um we all follow the same process ours is just a little more transparent and so we did not at any point have the ability to appoint anyone um independently of going through this process and so I just want to make that clear to those who maybe still had that question and there are some because I was contacted that we we do have a process in place it's it's parallel with many districts across our area and I think the state um and that's the process that we're foll in to to select our our trustee so I just wanted to make that clear that we didn't have the opportunity to just appoint someone independently of this process that's outlined in the bylaws so that's it I hope that provides some transparency and Clarity for those who who asked me thank you I appreciate that trusty Bano uh yes you know I'm looking forward to giving every uh applicant the opportunity to be appointed at this uh time and so thank you for that clarification um and at this time I'll go ahead and go um into item 401 um the interview of the candidates for provisional appointment and selection of provisional appointment to the Board of Trustees so as I explained earlier we're going to go ahead and go in ABC order um and um Mariel Andor afar um I know that uh you will be helping with the coordination of allowing the candidates um back in out and back in is that correct yes okay so please let me know when we're ready um if we can have Mr um Min and excuse me if I'm not pronouncing correctly I look forward to learning um but minf if we can allow him to come in first at this time I'm sorry hold on it's going to be Mr NN yes thank you Mr NN Mr Ann Min on win so does Mr fam have to excuse himself yeah um if we don't have a room where he's gonna go right now then um yes if he can excuse himself and then marel you contact put him in the rating room actually thank you if we can put him in the rating room and then let me know once that happen so that uh and we have Mr I have them in the waiting room right now perfect can I can I just clarify presidenta with yeah Mr Ruiz yes understanding and maybe it was incorrect um was that we for some reason we were not have people um not have access to this meeting so I just want to make sure that we are allowed and legally able to put one of the applicants into um a waiting room yeah so um this is R so you cannot uh bar him from this meeting but if he uh if you ask him and he accepts to to remain in the waiting room then that's perfectly fine but if he wants to join this meeting then by law he is entitled to attend uh can we bring him back in please thank you I thought there was something thank you ero I brought him back in thank you um and can we unmute him please Mr Mr minam and are you here is yes I am here welcome back um you're not it's not your turn yet we didn't go that fast okay I know you you called me so thank you yes um we just wanted to ask for your permission um to place you in that waiting room we kind of moved too quick here um and so we're uh hoping to have your permission um if you're okay with being in the waiting room while Mr NN answers the um same questions first and then uh bringing you back in after that okay yes you do thank you Mr F and then um we can also unmute if we haven't yet Mr NN Mr NN are you okay also um in going into into that waiting room after you answer the questions [Music] uh uh yes that is good with me also should I turn on my camera that would be great if you can turn on your camera I mean it you know it's your interview so however you want to present yourself and you are able to um my understanding is that there might be a candidate um that might not be able to I'm not sure um if they were able to uh Mr fam he he's unable to use his video okay um Roo is that correct or uh which part that um it's up to them if they want to turn on the camera or not however they want to present themselves in this interview yes that that's fine if that's okay or are able to I understand Mr fam is unable to I think he's on his cell phone yes I believe that's fine okay okay well thank you so much Mr fam uh and we'll bring you back in um once we're ready and then Mar you can let me know once he's uh in the waiting room he is in the waiting room thank you so much um hello Mr nin welcome good evening thank you for your patience um so I'll go ahead and go straight into the questions we have five questions for you uh we will give you three minutes to answer um and we'll go ahead and start the timer as soon as I finish reading the question do you have any questions yeah are we is it all five or are we alternating one no it'll be per question so I I'm I'm going to read that question one by one after I read one question the first question I'll give you three minutes to answer that first question then I'll read the second question then we'll give you three minutes to answer the second question okay so on and so forth and but I am answering all five questions in a row you will be yes okay I wasn't sure if I was alternating with the other uh candidate yeah no we're gonna go straight through the five questions got it so so for a total of uh 15 minutes of answering questions sounds good okay thank you um any other questions from the trustees before we move forward uh or anybody I don't need to fill up the three minutes right I could just answer and if I'm done I'm done right exactly then we could stop the clock I'll I'll uh good question I will then ask the next question and then we'll go that was good yeah adesto uh yes I just have a question um and I don't know if I might have missed this are we scoring um I don't know if this may be also for um for Mr Gil are we scoring the candidates as they complete or are we waiting for both of them and then do we score them once both interviews are done or does it matter um so for me personally I'm going to score them as they answer because I want to have it fresh in my mind I think depending on each trustee like if you're able to remember all the answers and score them at the end just to clarify I mean score them using the tool because the tool is just the one number right so it's per question good questions so we have um a space for you to score each question but so the question is we'll submit after each we'll submit all of our scores after each individually yes okay thank you yes thank you it can't be done at the end um unless you have two different I guess devices where you can open up two different sheets at the same time otherwise like I know for me I'm using my phone to score so I'm going to it's you know the name of the candidate and the score per answer and then I'm going to have to submit that and then I'm GNA have to open another one to then have the next sheet open but if maybe I should sorry I I didn't know you continuing no say or if you have a laptop open and your phone you know if you're to do that for me you could just write them theoretically you could write them and not enter it yet and then after both go then submit them at that time exactly that was that's what I was going to say perfect that's another form thanks any other questions I don't see andrees on my screen here so forgive me U we are working on that technical I'm here I got it awesome okay great all right so we'll go ahead and thank you Mr n for your patience yeah thank you we'll go ahead and um I'll go ahead and read the first question and then we'll give you the first three minutes to answer sounds good what experience do you have working with our alumrock Union School District Community with staff parents boards and elected officials what will you do to improve the relationship with the various members of the arusd community to ensure Equitable input in decision-making can you give us an example go yes okay so uh my experience in the community is that uh I'm born and raised here not specifically in alen rock I actually live I'm sure many of you know intersection of hoset and capital um grew up there went to Cherrywood and uh seront Pont and then right now uh I actually work at Independence and earlier this year I moved into the alrock district so I live just around the corner from school um obviously in my current position I'm teaching students and working with parents that live in you know our or yeah our district now alen Rock District um I think in the community uh particularly um you know as a Vietnamese American uh sitting in on IEP meetings in particular um they're definitely parents [Music] who just need that like connection with the school and having someone who you know speaks the same language and can understand them is a big deal obviously the school does have um translation services but whether it's like a reluctance to like ask for services you know maybe you feel weird or like you're you're rocking the boat when you don't want to then often times parents don't do that and so I have been able to uh you know kind of serve as an unofficial translator and as a connection for the parent to the school um and so I think that gives a lot of parents the opportunity to engage with uh the community or the school community that they wouldn't otherwise um and so I think to improve the relationship is really just taking that relationship and amplifying it across more parents basically making it accessible to uh more people um so yeah I think that's an example of my relationship building with parents and kind of like um Community Building as well thank you and then maybe when you're done if you could just let us stop it yeah I mean I kind of you know sense it but I just want to make sure that I don't um speak over you yeah thank you uhuh okay M president quick so we're one to five right that's the scale not one to 10 one to five to five okay thank you yes okay next question how have you supported or contributed to restorative justice racial equity and ethnic studies to increase the support for the children in our district before and during this pandemic so um I'm GNA focus on restorative justice and racial equity because um I actually teach math and while I wouldn't say there's no place for ethnic studies in that it's I couldn't say it's my for so you know I don't feel comfortable trying to do something I don't I don't feel prepared to do um but in terms of restorative justice and racial Equity uh one one practice that I've stopped entirely is writing referrals um this is my fourth year Independence and I think after the very first year I kind of realized that referral writing is just building it's starting a profile for a student when they're not even an adult yet right when they don't even have uh necessarily like contacts with like the criminal justice system right um and so instead it was just like oh again I realized I didn't want to like contribute to that like you know oh this kid has like X number of referrals so then you know they must be bad or something like that um so instead I just did away with them literally completely entirely I haven't written a referral since and instead you know when you talk about restor of Justice the emphasis becomes less um about punishment or about punitive measures and more about like oh how are we going to make things right like how are you going to you know in the classroom how are you going to understand how to appropriately contribute to the classroom Community how you going to understand to you know be a productive member or a contributing member of um you know the student body at large right and so um that's definitely my I think I think that's one of my biggest angles in terms of like addressing resor of Justice um for Rachel Equity as well um in addition to removing that like yeah punishment based like system in class um I try and offer a lot of tutoring opportunities I just know that like you know privileged people have like access to tutors that they pay for and because they can afford it um whereas you know students at independants don't necessarily have that access and so for me I just make it a point to be there uh beyond what is required um I haven't been doing that during distance learning but in the previous years I typically stay at school uh till four or five and let most students know like oh make an appointment with me and we'll get you up to speed um to give you one example of a really outstanding student she had uh she had an F like FS across the board and after you know taking advantage of like extensive tutoring opportunities finished the semester with a c and then finished second semester with a b um and that it's just like again one example of a really outstanding uh a student that took advantage of the opportunities um and that's it thank you number three considering what the next 5 to 10 years may have in store for arusd why is it important to have experience in the policy development so I know that this is a I definitely would not put this as one of my fores because I'm a classroom teacher um you know I don't have previous board experience or anything like that um but that being said you know when you uh are creating policy uh around classroom management for a bunch of team teers it definitely teaches you a lot um so a few of the things taught me uh how to be flexible how to prioritize and to change because you kind of just come you know it's a it's an evolving process and so I think throughout the whole thing I've just maintained an open mind like I think that's just the most important trait um you know whether you're working with students or at a a policy level like you just have to there's I don't think that there's many things you could reject out of hand entirely um you just have to kind of maintain the widest perspective as possible um and allow that to you know inform your decision- making because um no matter what plans you have you know plans cannot work out or unexpected obstacles or just unexpected variables can come up and um the best skill to have throughout all that is flexibility and open-mindedness that's it thank you thank you thank you number four describe any experience you have in the development and implementation of large scale wide reaching projects or initiatives that impact large communities at scale particularly from a financial perspective so similarly uh the does tie back to my last answer and it actually ties back to um my first answer as well um I don't know why I didn't mention that I'm on School site Council and although there are monetary decisions made um I would say that the my biggest takeaway from sitting in on those meetings which I started on School site Council just earlier this year so I've been in maybe four or five meetings something like that is that there's just a variety of perspectives there's the teachers there's uh the principal there's parents and then there's students and so uh when you when you purposely arrange a diverse group like that then everyone gets to hear something they didn't know or they they get a perspective that they wouldn't otherwise get and so uh again from a financial perspective but just from a perspective at all then I am bringing the you know classroom teacher uh perspective in terms of offering up initiatives that may or may not be initiatives that will be effective or initiatives that might sound good on paper but are ultimately unnecessary um and then also the perspective of a former student you know I didn't attend Independence but I attended pedmont which is pretty much down the road um and so I think I still just offer really good perspective from inside the classroom considering uh the fact that I've been in it for the last uh six years just bringing I guess to sum it up I would say uh just bringing a different perspective that might not exist uh on the board thank you y and uh number five do you work for a charter school and if appointed will you accept employment with a charter school and what is your position on Charter Schools um so yeah Independence High School is not a charter school and uh I would only accept employment with it I would accept employment with a charter school um but as a math teacher I think think and i' I've thought about this a lot as a public school teacher and as a math teacher I think logistically um logistically it's a tough situation because you're basically taking the resources you have and then splitting them along competing tracks which I just find um again on paper it just sounds um ineffective uh because Charter Schools act as comp to a traditional public school or they can not not necessarily always but they can act as a competitor to a traditional Public School in a space store there doesn't need to be one I'm not I'm not really sure that um you know for those who who do Advocate the competition of schools I'm not really sure that makes much sense because at the end of the day um this is not like the NFL right where there has to be a champion it's it's the public school system when one school wins then we're all winning as a society right it's not like they beat another school if a school is doing poorly you know the rest of us are suffering for that there's there's just yeah so just on that angle um I think for those who who do look at that competitive angle um that I don't think I just don't take that line of thinking um but all that being said I also recognize that Charter Schools represent unmet needs um you know people wouldn't people wouldn't go to a charter school if they were getting what they needed at a Traditional School and so uh Charter Schools help us help us as in like a community as a whole recognize the needs that are going unmet and so they could definitely help us learn how to meet those needs and examining the best practices at Charter Schools right by confirming with students and parents like oh what is going on here that people like how can we duplicate that you know across the district what do people not like right same thing that's it thank you um and I I do want to acknowledge that you both answered six questions um yes and so um maybe roio you can help us out here um I know we had said five there's a sixth question here um is it okay to have them both answer that question and then or is this something that I need to um bring up with the board um I I believe at the last meeting the intention of the board was to have them answer five questions and then only if there was a tie to answer the remaining questions so you might want to I would suggest you pull your board members on whether they just want to hear the remaining answer okay so board members I remember having a total of eight if I remember correctly we had three extra ones in case needed to break any ties um they both answered six questions so would you like them both I know we only have two candidates um so that would add a total of six minutes of hearing them both out um are you okay with listening to that sixth question or do you just want to keep it at the five questions go ahead Linda I think we should just um do it the way we said we were going to do it okay Ernesto I think since we don't have more than six candidates um then I think it's okay to have that question um because in the event of a tie we still would have questions that we would be able to utilize for a second round correct yes and if it's not a tie then this one question just gives us a little more um data to use in our in our scores so I I would be in favor of of letting them answer the sixth question and give us a little better idea of their perspectives okay um Andres and then we'll come back to Linda yeah it's a it's a it's a one more question through minutes just be done with it and I think it gives us more information to put in our questions but to to base our decisions on okay thank you Linda I was going to say to save time let's just go with the extra question thanks okay thank you thank you board so we'll go ahead and go with the last question uh what is your position on the sell of District land so I would start off by saying I do not have a strong you know formulated position I do not have a strong position on it without an extensive knowledge of like you know pros and cons why are we doing it what are we doing it for um I know fiscal solvency is um a question for the district so as an option for that to that end I know that it could be a logical solution um you know not to say the bazillion times but as a math teacher you just try and be you try to be cool about it you know I couldn't I couldn't reject it out of hand I couldn't say I embrace it um because I do consider it a drastic measure just talking about um the value of property in the Bay Area or in California however you want to frame it um that's a drastic measure right the the land Changing Hands is a really drastic measure so we would have to take into serious consideration that you know if it were sold the land could may never be reobtained without like really significant costs right so I think again not going to sit here and say that I advocate it not going to sit here and say that it's an impossibility right also going back to my other answer of just being open-minded um but if you do something then you have to seriously consider it because I would consider that a a pretty big step that's all thank you so much Mr Nan and uh at this time we're gonna um have you wait in the waiting room while we give Mr fam an opportunity to answer the same questions and then will uh call you back eventually okay thank you Mr thank you okay so Mr is in okay um and then roio I just want to before we continue on with Mr fam um just want to confirm that we'll have public comment after after both have answered um the questions correct that's correct okay so um board members uh you are right you know I don't know I think it's best if we kind of write our answers and then listen to the public to before we submit our final um of our final scores um which Mak that's what I was going to say that's the way to do it okay uh thank you Mr fam for patiently waiting uh welcome back and I'm just going to go ahead and start with the first question you'll have three minutes to answer I don't know that you are able to see the clock are you able to see the clock uh yes I'm actually watching the the live stream on the YouTube okay perfect so the clock will be um up for you and as soon as you begin speaking then the three minute timer will begin I'm Sorry Miss Madame President are we sure just just in terms of the synchron synchronization of the YouTube feed and the the live three minutes that we have here I don't know if maybe Mr Gil can confirm that his three minutes is going to be like we're going to be in sync with that will it be a problem if he's using that YouTube three minute clock so there is a variation between 10 to 15 second delay so if he's using the three minutes on YouTube um then it might be a little off so is what I'm kind of hearing I think so may I don't know one suggestion maybe is to give him like a a one minute warning or a 30- second warning just in case his clock is not matched up with our clock or if that may if it ends up posing some kind of issue I just want to make sure that he knows when his actual yeah good points um and what I'm thinking is to allow him the entire three minutes we're going to have to we get to wait for that lag I think like as soon as I think the problem's gonna be maybe marel like when she starts a clock when he starts talking and we might not know that lag because we're not seeing the YouTube feed and and I think Madam president yes go ahead and I I think you just verbally say we're going to start and then you're GNA have to figure it out via you know that delay Factor it in yeah so I think um Mr fam what I'll do is um I'll have a timer in front of me and I'll um as soon as you begin speaking I'll start the three minute timer and then at one minute I'll let you know that you have one minute I'm sorry yeah one minute left just so you're aware of your timing um and then at the end of your 3 minutes I will say time's up okay thank you sure no problem um okay so we'll go ahead yes suggestion is if on your timer you set it for 2:45 2 minutes 45 it will automatically alarm and he would know instead of there won't be any Interruption that's what I was going to say so set it for 2 minutes and 45 seconds and your alarm will ring automatically he will get an ID only 15 second left y okay okay uh Mr fam did you hear that yes I did we're changing it slightly here we go with these uh technological problems here so I'm going to go ahead and set it for two minutes and 45 seconds at that time it'll ring then you'll know that you have 15 seconds okay very well thank you for your patience I had a power outage earlier in the day so trying to recover from that yes no we're glad you can make it um okay so I'll go ahead and read the first question okay what experience do you have working with our arusd community with staff parents boards and elected officials what will you do to improve the relationship with the various members of the arus arusd community to ensure Equitable input in decision making and can you give us an example well as an alumni president in a former legislative aid for the assembly district that includes Alam Rock I've had plenty of experience with the Alam Rock uh Community uh from my perspective I what I would do to improve the relationships uh would be to ensure Equitable that Equitable decision making is accessible maintaining an open mind engaging the community and striving to keep the Lin of communication open I think the best example was my service on the bond oversight committee for the past three and uh three plus years i' in this role I've interacted with the professional staff of the district concerned parents members of the board and other elected officials in the region to identify work through and push for the resolution of the issues of financial oversight and internal controls over the bond funds uh it was a multi-year process moments got heated in the hard work but you know uh you know I took a collaborative approach I listened to you know the questions of my fellow uh committee members as well as you know noting the technical concerns of the staff and we were able to you know uh work through those issues get the questions answered and resolve the uh you know help resolve the fiscal issues in the uh 2018 2019 fiscal year audit and also I'm proud of uh you know my work with the past chair uh Ray Mueller in helping to start and you know continue the uh you know annual uh Bond oversight committee uh site visits to help ensure that you know we you know uh the community as well as the bond committee members have a chance to you know look at the completed work and I you know uh see the progress that's made with bond funds uh an opportunity to provide input and as well as to uh catalog the you know pressing issue of school district facilities for our children uh you know so you know that's C you know I think that that's proof of uh my experience with working you know with the Alam Rock uh School District committee I mean Community thank you very much thank you okay second question have you I'm sorry how have you supported or contributed to the restorative justice racial equity and ethnic studies to increase the support for the children in our district before and during this pandemic well in regards to you know most of my experience would be you know during this pandemic but in regards to uh restorative justice and you know I work to expand you know as a legislative Aid I supported uh opportunities for students to engage in community oriented volunteer extracurricular activities you know we H you know uh we have you know and also in my role as a vice chair on the uh open space authorities citizen advisory committee you know uh to create alternative uh you know alternative activities that help move away from punitive measur so that you know when our students uh you know when students you know instead of punishing them we give them on opportunity to say work you know volunteer community service hours at Open Space Preserve where you know they get a chance to reflect on their mistakes but also do something that releases some of that frustrated energy that they have and as well as something that they can take ownership of uh and you know uh in regards to uh racial equity and ethnic studies I mean I'm a person of color you know I understand that you know this you know we serve a uh you know uh low to Middle income population with many disadvantaged families you know um you know I have always work to you know especially with the open space uh authority to uh Target the supplemental funds such as uh school grants to George Middle School uh to you know help out uh you know student uh disadvantaged students and lastly in terms of uh ethnic studies you know on the you know where you know I work with the laraza Historical Society you know in our site visits to help catalog the uh you know many murals in the mo former moxa Youth Center you know for historical preservation and to support uh you know the study of ethnic history in the Alam Rock Community thank you thank you question number three considering what the next 5 to 10 years may have in store for arusd why is it important to have experience in the policy development well uh you know uh you know the the next five to 10 years is going to be challenging for Alan Rock we're going to be making our way through the end of the current pandemic going through the process of reopening our School site safely once again regain the confidence of the community in Alam Rock schools and managing the after effects of uh the pandemic's effect in our finances you know the threat needle successfully you know we're going to have to you know take short to medium-term actions that will have an impact on our ability to continue educating our children for the for the long term I think that my experience you know as a legislative Aid uh College ad missions counselor and on the citizen Bond oversight Community give me an you know an understanding of the need for you know a collaborative approach to policy development to work with my board colleagues and parents and teachers and support staff in the Alam Rock District at large you know and to take a compassionate and pragmatic approach you know seeking to protect our commitments while you know working within you know the limitation the financial a that we have and hopefully you know if there is room uh you know go on the offensive and let's see where we can you know find external sources of funding thank you thank you hello thank you yes sorry just want to make sure that the clock is back on where it's supposed to okay okay describe any experience you have in the development and implementation of large scale wide reaching projects or initiatives that impact large communities at scale particularly from a financial perspective okay uh well uh the you know the best example of my experience in that area would be my work as the vice chair of the open space Authority citizens advisory committee uh under the uh a measure Q parsal tax passed in 2014 The Authority has implemented an annual open uh Urban open space grant program uh in operation since 2016 so the role of you know my role is to provide you know along with my fellow committee members is to provide a firstr public hearing and review of Grant applicance and to provide a recommendation of approval or disapproval to the elected board of directors who would conduct a final ground public hearing and vote I mean since it's Inception this program has provided 2.9 Million to schools and schools and local organizations including you know eight you know well over a million dollar in Grants in the 2020 Grant cycle uh let's see here you know as it pertains to you know the alw committee I'm proud of my work in uh you know successfully advocating for open space Authority grants to uh you know Joseph George middle school for their student garden and also uh to help underwrite the cost of a few trips to open space preserves for uh Alam Rock fourth graders in the past uh thank you thank you okay question number five do you work for a charter school and if I appointed will you accept employment with a charter school and what is your position on Charter Schools oh uh well I know I do not work for a charter school I'm employed by a California State University so I will not accept appointment with a charter school whether or not I'm appointed to the Board of Trustees uh my position on Charters is simple I am not a supporter of charter school because I believe in our local community Public Schools I'm dedicated to preserving that which Generations before have given to us to educate the children of alam Rock and to protect the Democratic rights of our residents uh in regards to the oversight of the schools you know for over 90 years and even before that the Alam Rock and its predecessors have through good times and B providing education and crucial service services to our students you know as a graduate of Alan Rock I mean I know the potential of Alan Rock I mean uh I believe we ought to be focusing and on protecting and enhancing our community schools and to approve more Charters uh you know a community that's not able to uh provide an education for their children is not you know is a community in Decline you know furthermore I'm also concerned about some of the pract is of some loc charter schools in the region and feel that you know organizations that cut Corners with you know their students and their faculty and staff you know have no business educating our children thank you thank you and Mr fam um I just want to let you know I know initially we said five questions uh but we know we had you both answer six questions so we're gonna go ahead and ask you that sixth question out loud um and you both have the opportunity to answer it um publicly okay so the final question number six what is your position on the sell of District land well as an alumni and resident of this District uh and a member of the bond oversight committee I am completely opposed to the sales District land land especially in our region is a valuable asset safe by those who came before us so that we have the resources to educate our children as well as something that can be used to provide a sustainable long lasting Revenue Source you know let's appointed to the board I do everything in my power to work with my fellow board members to preserve our community land uh so that we can maintain our commitment to fulfill you know our commitments to providing education into the future you know if we cannot use the land for educational facilities you know again my preference is to do something where the district relases unused property for you know say no more than 5 years at a time to Ed a long-term Revenue stream while maintaining ownership so that you know we can secure the district's future thank you thank you so much uh and this concludes our um public interview at this time um roio can you uh remind me if they can both be back I'm assuming at this time while we do our telling and things um or do yes they can that's fine okay comment first right that's right um and uh we can bring Mr NN in back in and let me know marel when he's back in please he is back great uh welcome back Mr NN uh thank you both so much Mr fam um and Mr NN for answering those questions um now we're going to move on to public comment um at this time uh we're going to allow the public to come and um speak on behalf um uh of this this item here at this time uh Mr avar if you can uh let us know how many speakers we have at this time currently I didn't catch that can you repeat that yeah first I said there is none but now I see it's growing yes we'll give some time for folks to raise their hand how many do we have now there are six seven okay great um so we'll go ahead and um begin um Mr after her I'm going to go ahead and just uh give it over to you and if you can we can have the timer set for two minutes each um and at the end of each speaker um Mr uh afar if you can um say the name of the next speaker and then we'll just go on um to the next speaker until they've all spoken um so I'll go ahead and turn it over to you at this time thank you so the first person is dza follow with marel Ru oreli sandal a um good evening can you guys hear me yes welcome thank you good evening um superent Dr bow president erera and trusty s the board my name is D Gonzalez and I am an organizer with imp and a parent from the district and bu would like to State and just remember the board that um in the past weeks we talk about the values that we wanted to see to any of the persons we appointed tonight and we are currently also holding the air us board um to these values as well uh we would like to have an appoint an appointed that is a student center that has an A Student Center agenda all the sessions focus on increasing School Success performance and instructional Effectiveness that prioritize Mental Health social emotional learning and restorative justice practice when supporting and educating the child as a whole we want to empower the students and prepare them for college and a meaningful career we will also like to see accountability being prepared for meetings accepts responsibility for decisions made correct scores when needed helps find Solutions and does not blame others for example trusted superintendent or teachers chose their responsibilities by taking actions that are beneficial for our schools and their students and families most impacted lastly would like them to accept any kind of misconduct and inappropriate behaviors when this happens or if ever happens as an Engaged parent I would like to thank the individuals that apply to be appointed tonight best luck of both of you guys I am looking forward on creating Partnerships to continue supporting our students and their families thank you and have a really good evening thank you next person marille Ru hi uh my name my name is marel Ruiz and I'm from the community border from the community and part of and I want to say the theion you can take today I hope it's the best because the important thing here is the student if we are talking about transparency open and public processes open communication voices of all stakeholder are solicited at each meeting without regard to topic Clarity and consistency on what are CLA session item behavior and values do not change in all the sessions because you are consistent in what you say and do thank you very much thank you next person is araseli aay um good evening okay sorry okay good evening everyone my name iseli sandala and as a parent of the district and also as a part of U today I would like to emphasize that whoever is selected or who is actually um being part of the board meeting uh follow the following values I would like that person to be um to have the respect and the commitment for the parents the students and the community as well that accept and value the apportation of all the parts also that includes respect and value the community um so also I would love that that person that represent as involved with the parents and the students in a way that it understand the experience of the parents and the students as valuable and as a priority thank you thank you next person is Claudia C followed by Veronica and a CH you hello my name is clavia oh go ahead I think we muted her can we start the time again and you guys hear me yeah now now we can I'm an member and I'm here repres sending parents of the Alam Rock School District um and Bo would like to state that whoever is appointed as trustee this evening as well as our current board members of alam Rock Unified School District must have as values good governance experience and ability reflecting as following board policies employing good management practices and a good is a good mediator to others works well in teams and is a consensus Builder one who shall also sound have sound judgment and reasoning and give proposals clearly backed by facts and Community voice thank you thank you next Veronica great thank you um and thank you War members and good afternoon and thank you to the speaker um that decided to move forward with this um it's but I do want to highlight something I'm also a parent here in Allen Rock but and something that I want to highlight is that both of this um candidates have very little tithes to our com to Allen Rock School District just because you're in a com in a committee does not mean that you are automatically in touch with what's going on in our in our school district completely and our schools um I am very sad that you know we don't have other candidates are in touch or that they have done things and if you're in a committee um what have you done to engage our families right what have you done to maintain that um they're aware of what's going on and at that committee um you're responsible for um I'm sad because again this seems to be like a stepping stool for all of you um that sit on the board and the potential candidates again because there's not that there's not that wanting of wanting to know more on our school district even before you become a before you become a member right where is that investment of wanting to know how our schools are doing besides just being on that committee and how our families are doing um there was nothing mention of that there was mention of like their jobs outside of here and all the great things that they do and that's amazing that's great but nothing connecting really back to our school district and that is something I am very sad that I didn't hear and I hope that we that there is other candidates that are interview um because I don't as a parent I don't see both of them to be the fit um for to be appointed thank you thank you [Music] a hi um oh I was going to turn on my video um is that required I was it just said it was unable to is allowed only through audio connection oh okay got it thank you um hi my name is aaow I am a teacher at Independence High School also I am the um snu sister County uh commissioner for District 3 which uh is an alumrock District um I'm speaking on behalf of Min on NN um because he is a very level-m minded person even though he may not have um experien being a board member he is new he has the passion he has this experience working with the school site counsel and um being on the School site Council and his intentions in the classroom when you're a teacher you are managing teenagers is um and he also reaches out to the community and that I know that when he becomes a Schoolboard member he's going to be out there reaching out with the community and working with them just like he does with his high school students in his classroom um he has grown up in the area next to alumrock but since his residence is in um in Barry his residence is in alen rock he is able to um he can still make a difference in the community even though this may be a newer Community to him um so this is his sixth year teaching at in in general um fourth year at Independence which tells me he's been tene um he has no intentions of leaving his intentions are for this community and the students he he does use this as a political background um he wants to do this as Schoolboard member not to hop and have aspirations of um other public offices offices um so I hope that you do consider me on new one for school board thank you thank you next is FL Delon followed by Laura and Myra good evening everyone my name is flor de Leon I am a coordinator with but right now I am on vacation but today I am here as a parent um and I want to say that uh for the individuals that are applying and uh unluckily we don't have any more options but uh I think it's very important that these people understands that uh the values that of your position is to Center in our students education and that are willing to prioritize uh uh uh with all what we have to deal with budgets and everything but prioritize uh for example right now with distance learning and and uh the mental and emotional of our kids and being able to understand the Necessities but also to provide and have a commitment to transform our district and provide tools uh for our teachers and students and it's also very important that you know how to read policies too and also be prepared be responsible and uh be prepared when you come to these meetings to make sure you do your homework before you come and to be to make the best decisions you can you know and I think uh this is a commitment it's not something that you gotta take easy and you gotta Focus your decisions on centering on our kids uh education and like right now we need more support on mental health and not only complaining but finding resources finding solutions to uh make sure uh there is a a better Alum BR and better with our schools and our students and also uh listen to that community community in Alan BR is very uh dedicated in these meetings to provide input and uh we want candidates that listen to that community that work with that community and that makes the best decisions to better our schools and uh thank you all uh tonight for applying but I hope we can find that candidate we need to transform Alan brck thank you thank you any others yes Myra hars welcome can you hear me yes okay uh yes I am ready Carina btia I am ready yes can you hear me president can you hear me uh Miss Corina can you hear me can you hear me uh mrod yeah Carina Bautista I I am here can you hear me can you think she heard you Ma yeah I am MAA harms and I am a member of the community I I'm a parent at Alum Rock and I am part of the community at empu okay what we want is that the person in this the person in this the person in yeah so what we are requiring is that the person who takes this position um have a good ethics uh that is one of the things that we are asking of that person okay [Music] we are looking uh to um yeah so we are looking I'm sorry I I just uh kind of lost the um the thread uh she's just looking for uh the best person uh to serve the community and maybe you can continue now uh to uh have the members of the family to be to be involved and also um the stakeholders in in business see so we do not want to tolerate yeah we do not want to tolerate all the injustices that have been going on previously [Music] okay okay okay and to take into consideration and to take into considerations all the conflicts of interest and from the government code I think she said [Music] 67 okay to take into consideration graas to take into consideration uh the interest in financial code uh 109 and also the uh Education Code 35233 gracias thank you for you're welcome the next person is camil [Music] fontania can you hear me yes okay thank you good evening superintendent Dr Bower president Herrera Lera and board trustees my name is caman FIA and I'm an Alam Rock parent as well as the executive director of SOS Mayfair a community partner of the district I'm here today to support the education of my own child as well as stand in solidarity with impu parents and ask that the board appoint a trustee that is committed to the values that were stated this evening as additionally as a Filipina I am grateful to the board for your commitment to racial and ethnic representation that reflects the diversity of the alumrock student body and their families with more than 27% of our students identifying as part of the API Community it is exciting to have API representation being considered this evening I'd also want to name that as you enter your deliberations it is important to be thoughtful in your analysis as representation is only one thing and it is important to choose the candidate that is most aligned with the values that were identified in advance by diverse stakeholders parents students teachers administrators and Community Partners during one of the most painful periods in our district the student first agenda and the values that impu shared this evening were developed veled from that space additionally determine which candidate will best support the needs that have already been identified by us as stakeholders as key priorities which include racial Justice restorative justice social emotional and physical well-being especially in this era of covid and fiscal Management in the years to come as we continue to move forward as one District I ask that whoever is chosen work to be a bridge builder irrespective of which ethnic or racial group you represent together we can move forward as one District thank you thank you next person is Laura agar hello hello yes okay my name is Laura agir I am an organizer with u and a and a parent from elmrock as parents from The District in B will like to state that whoever is being appointed to or currently part of the arusd board has to possess the following value commitment to transferring Alam brck schools arusd should be a singular focus and not used a stepping stone for political or professional Ambitions it also has to have a racial Justice and Equity lens and genuine commitment to transform and improve educational system polies attitude and beliefs that will benefit all students and family especially those that come from communities that are marginalized excluded or struggling from Equity aligning funding and resources to benefit students and parents above all other interests thank you thank you there are no more mam president okay thank you so much uh for coming and speaking um in public comment um and at this time um I'm going to give my peers my uh board members time to finish their uh tally sheet their uh form that we will then submit to um avar um four minutes be sufficient I'm done okay I might need a little more than that more than four minutes maybe I I mean I have them all down it's just a matter of transferring it over here to the tool so okay so I'll let you know when I'm I'll put four minutes and then we'll see how we're doing at that time okay [Music] board president this is R I just want to while everybody is doing this I just want to remind the board that their scores are public information so they will be uh they will be available to be viewed by the public as part of this process thank you for for for okay for no rest I'm still um but no uh you know i i i again what dana said about uh the rfps and reopening of schools and coving there's a lot going on this year um i'm hoping we could keep that that momentum running we had in last year and keep on just pushing through and getting everything done that we need to do as a group and as a board and i'm looking forward to this new year thank you thank you mr kenova mr daley thank you mr president uh first of all i would also like to pass on my personal condolences to joe and maria on the passing of arlene um i enjoyed uh serving with her we had some differences opinions but that was not important and i think that's a little uh lead into uh what i want to say about our collective board here um i'd like to welcome first of all mr awad uh congratulations i look forward to meeting you and talking to you sooner than later i know we have our covert things but i think we can address that issue i welcome you aboard um and i'd like to congratulate mr smith and miss abedrabo on the election today president and vice president um but i'd also like to talk to to my members as general and it kind of is in line with lama said um we're looking forward however however we vote whether it's on an issue or who's president or who not we have to after that we need to look forward and collectively look for the betterment of our school district and support our superintendent uh and i think we're all up to that i don't have to uh think about chastising anybody on this sport at this time for not doing that but i'd like to reaffirm that uh that uh i look forward working with each each one of you i think we all have different uh talents and uh things to contribute here and we should continue to do that um and it's important that we look forward and grow and address the issues that are ahead of us uh i respect each and every one of you and uh and i and i don't have no doubt that will collectively do a great job going forward for 2021 and yet another uh trying year with the cove advice lastly i'd like to talk about the uh and i didn't prepare any statement about the insurrection that occurred in washington um yesterday i can't tell you how upset uh when i was watching that um we took an oath of office today and it's and part of the the south offices their true faith allegiance to the constitution protect and defend the united states foreign and domestic that is a staple statement from every public office holder and public uh servant from the president down to us i first took that oath when i was inducted into the military and those words still ring in my head i've taken it several times as as uh the commissioner on the on the planning board and and here at the um on the board of education and other boards that i've that are publicly designated um you really i mean more than the pledge of allegiance every citizen should read that and take that we have we all have whether we're elected or not or appointed or not a civic responsibility to seeing our government we don't have to agree on everything but we have to conduct ourselves accordingly what happened yesterday i've never seen anything like that and it's shameful and disgusting and it should never happen again and those who are going to need to look uh i'm responsible need to be accountable for those actions um i have no problem with uh peaceful demonstrations and if the if a demonstration is going south that you're involved with you need to walk away because you you need to differentiate things that are to the public good and your rights to express and address your grievances to elected officials that was not what happened yesterday it was a direct opposite it violated your your responsibilities as citizens uh it was just a porn and um i would suggest maybe we should talk as board members later on and i think this should be part of uh a civics lesson in or excuse the word civic some people are not familiar with government responsibility that we teach in in our schools uh we need to make our students understand what happened yesterday and why it was so wrong the the there was people of all kinds of political stripes who represent us in that those two chambers they were doing the job they were elected some took different paths but that was their prerogative under their elected you need to respect that we're not going to be happy with every decision that's made down there we might have different views we might push different agendas that is all fine but when you go in and disrupt and desecrate a place where our laws are our government is in doing their dually appointed authority that is no tolerance there you talk about no tolerance that should be it so i think we would like i would like to discuss this further because i think it's an important piece that happened in america it's never happened before since the british uh burned the capitol down in 1812 and it shouldn't and this was american citizens with american flags how how they desecrated the flag they desecrated our government by doing what they did in the place they did it there's no other way to put it so uh you could tell i'm pretty it's ginned up about this but i would like to continue this discussion at another time and and i think we should put forward our thoughts and work with the administration and making sure that our students understand their governmental responsibility as citizens of the united states with that i'll conclude my remarks and i wish everybody a great new year thank you thank you mr daley uh miss danny i'll keep my remarks um pretty short i just want to say happy new year um happy holidays and i hope everyone had a good safe and you know holiday that was a little bit especially in these times that um there was a little brightness um it's with a heavy heart that i you know say my condolences to the agresti family arlene ran about 10 years ago with us on the board and i had gotten really close to her and you know hearing about her sudden passing was just very very upsetting um so to joe and marie you know my deepest condolences um congratulations mr awad mr abhijabo mr smith um nice again um mr smith mr abu drabo obviously you're rejoining us mr wad um i look forward to getting to know you and working with you closely on the board um i i didn't want to run for any um office this time for the board the president or vice president i think it's nice um to see a change in leadership um you know new people new ideas new ways of doing things i always think that that's nice plus i have a full plate with my doctor and everything so um you know congratulations on getting president mr smith and vice president mr abu drabbo and look forward to um you know working under uh both of you and that's all i have to say thank you thank you miss danny uh mr casper all right thank you mr president i'd like to congratulate all of our winners this year in this year's election and um i look forward to working with the three of you uh throughout the year again i'd also like to send my condolences to the agresti and skatuto families please note that sharing my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time um i have to wish everybody a happy new year i hope you all had a wonderful break uh mr awad i look um i look forward to getting to know you more and just sit down and i hope everyone has a video you want to go now or me doc you want to go you want me to go sorry mr smith after you sir okay um i uh also would like to uh welcome mr wad to the uh to the board um i will offer my help and assistance in any way that i can and i'm sure all the board members will um be glad to help you and uh i congratulate you and mr abu drabo and on winning a spot on the board of education [Music] i would also like to send my condolences to the agresti family while i did not serve with arlene or know her very well i know so many people spoke very highly of her and i send my condolences to her family i thank the board members for entrusting me with the office of the president i will do the very best job that i can that's what i will offer to each and every one of you and to the staff the citizens um and um i will do the best very best that i can and i appreciate the support of the board members with that i'd just like to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year and uh dr robitazi you could have before thank you uh mr president um congratulations to um the new board member uh mr awad who was sworn in tonight um ferris i remember meeting you at the board meeting uh you came to a couple board meetings last year and i remember meeting you and have a conversation with you after one of the board meetings uh and i also remember you had applied for the vacancy so i was happy to see that somebody who went out of their way to apply for the vacancy then ran for the election and won so looking forward to working with you i think that you'll bring a good and different perspective to this board um and i'm going to be in touch in the next couple weeks to help you get oriented to the to the district and try to get you up to speed on on some things that the administration would like the board members to know about how the district is run um i also like to congratulate um mr casper i'm sorry um mr smith uh for getting uh re-elected and for being elected as president um and also mr abrabo for being re-elected and elected as vice president i look forward to working with uh both of you throughout this year we have a lot to do there's a lot of big things on the agenda this year and we'll be working very closely together i also want to thank miss danny and mrs basford for their service as president and vice president respectively um you know it is extra work and you're still not getting paid okay as well as the board members your volunteers so i think tonight we'll pass a resolution where we're going to triple your pay that you currently get and i think it's well deserved so i don't think anybody would have any objections to that on a uh more somber note i do want to send my condolences to the aggressive family uh i met mr gresti she was actually a board member when i was interviewing for the position and she was on at least two of the interviews that i was a part of and and i knew that she was a supporter of mine she came to the board meeting when i got hired even though she was no longer on the board and just had very kind things to say both publicly and privately to me so it's very sad to hear about her loss uh you know as a board member and as a former teacher in clifton for for so many years so to her family my deepest condolences uh please know you're in my thoughts and prayers spoke to john beagle today um our clifton health officer and he called to really thank me and to tell me how incredible uh a job that our our nurses did at yesterday's first day of vaccinations at clifton high school he made sure to tell me about how awesome mr doctor our high school principal was and helping out with the operations our custodial staff he said everybody was just amazing just a great team there mr doctor's administration so i want to thank all of those people that selflessly volunteered to administer the vaccine or to work the registration lines and really to support our community um their dedication and this cause has given us all a little bit of hope that there is some light at the end of the tunnel and it's going to help support the safe reopening of our schools so speaking of reopening i just want to let the board know over the next couple weeks i will be working closely with the clifton health department the administrative team to determine a safe reopening date for in-person instruction we're going to be monitoring clifton's weekly positivity rates particularly in school-aged children we're going to be reviewing the new guidance that just came out from the new jersey department of health which will help us as there is no longer the rule that requires you to shut down a school for two positive cases the rule is now you should consider shutting down if you have two positive unrelated cases so i plan to after looking at everything over the next couple weeks have uh a tentative plan to return to in-person instruction unveiled at the january 21st board of education meeting that does not mean i expect us to be back january 22nd that does not mean i even have an idea of when um my recommendation is going to be to reopen our schools but we will have a plan that will be based on data uh and that's you know safe for for everybody so i will have something for everyone at the january 21st board meeting in addition at the january 21st board meeting uh we will be giving a formal presentation uh to the board and the community on the proposed referendum that we are uh hoping to have the public vote on uh april 20th so we'll get into all the details of that on the 21st and be able to answer any questions uh and open that up to any community questions so the new year has begun um and despite the troubling events that unfolded yesterday at the u.s capitol i still have hope for this year um it's got to get better this american experiment that we've been working on since 77 1776 still has many flaws and still has a long way to go but there's no doubt in my mind we are the greatest country in the world we cannot let the rule of law crumble like we saw yesterday we have to find more things that unite us rather than divide us i know we can have no doubt that we can and that i believe needs to start right here with this board we all have a common goal in mind and that is to do what's best for the children the faculty and staff and the community of clifton new jersey and i know that's why all of you do what you do so when it's time to disagree on issues that's okay we'll disagree on issues but let's remain steadfast and focused on our mission on making this district better for our children a superintendent needs a cohesive board a superintendent needs a supportive board so i've had that since day one i don't anticipate that that's going to change now and i so look forward to working with everybody again over the next year um to accomplish many major goals uh that we have set forth so happy new year i wish all of you good health and happiness uh throughout the year thank you mr president thank you dr robertos okay uh is there uh any new business i have old business that was supposed to be addressed tonight um policy number one four two oh one four four and oh one six four one six it was supposed to be second reading tonight we all agreed to have a second reading tonight it was uh that's the only reason why i agreed to cancel the second december meeting that we were going to move it tonight because this there is a there's an item on here that's imperative to to walking through the new board member orientation and that was the agreement so i'm going to ask for that to be put on the agenda quasi mr awa doesn't have the information in front of him uh being that he wasn't a prize to it my recommendation would be for him to abstain mr president i agree with miss basford and i recommend that we add that to the agenda that was an administrative mistake that i take responsibility for um there were no issues that anybody had with the policies there were no questions or additions so i don't think it would be an issue to just add a resolution to approve those policies for a second reading okay do i have a motion to approve those policies uh for a second reading i will motion second by mr casper is there any discussion mr abedrabo yes mr awad miss bassford yes miss beltran yes mr canova yes mr daley yes miss danny yes mr casper yes yes mr smith yes motion carries okay is there any new business uh before the board seeing none uh is there anything for executive session seeing none motion to close so moved beckon by mr daley second by mr casper any objective action so move move thank you everybody good night everybody good night everybody

and a turnover committed by the olympians maybe something seymour needs to spark some momentum turnovers for each of these teams have been the problem here as allison craig will check in for albany spear 133 here we go 12 point ball game see if seymour can inch closer as that is our turnover taken by sage saul she crosses over and kicks it out to dr gravy excuse me in the corner fires a three up and good a transition three by corinne gravy a great find from sage stahl gives grivey 18 on the night sage stall great crossover to keep the play alive after the turnover and way to keep your eyes up and find gravy in the corner and myers looks to answer back along there and speaking of along a long rebound there by jenkins and grabby will pass it to crethers and she took too many steps there in a turnover committed by the olympians 51.3 seconds remaining here in the third quarter see if the olympians are going to stay in that zone look and they do perry passes it to trinkle back to meyer 40 seconds on the clock here maybe one shot we shall see down low to schrader who's been manhandling the paint down there this second half but that's off the mark and rebounded by carruthers gravy keeps her eyes up and tips looking for sage stall but tipped out of bounds by seymour looks like we're gonna have a sub number 13 kendrick sterling junior guard five six two sterlings on the roster wondering if they are sisters number 25 and number 13.

Gill alen rock.org arusd.org yes yes thank you and I'll send it to um Gina as well okay for apar did you receive that I haven't have you I haveen it oh there it is just got it okay I got it okay avar do you need me to do a Google form for her answers yeah please uh that'll be better okay I'll do that right now obviously put her name yes absolutely the good thing is that this will all be transparent and uh she will make sure that her answers are correct my phone is still roaming so if you get it later sorry and I would like uh I did check the part where I wanted a I guess a receipt of what I I sent but since it hasn't been sent yet you can't see that okay what I'll do is I'll ask for a copy and I'll forward you the copy once I receive it thanks uh Dr Bower says she received it so I guess that's that's good enough the picture right uh I don't know what I I think I'm assuming that that's what she says that she received but I I can't it's not pulling up the picture for me okay but I do see that that the response did a bunch of mail delivery uh notification failures but that this last one went in have you seen it there okay I I'm putting in um I just finished putting in your first one and I'm doing the second candidate so I think we'll be good all right thank you trusty Chavez it it was bounced because Mr Gil's last name has two L's okay thank you okay um after you should be receiving those soon yes I did receive them perfect [Music] so has every has everybody's scores have everybody scores um been entered and we have the spreadsheet and everything prepared or we're waiting for something still so everything after will put it together and we'll show us the screen once it's ready yes I am making the final touch I mean let me correct not the touch calculation okay for so yes I'm done and I will share the screen now and I will give a brief debrief too so this is the screen results and in the First Column if uh is the time stamp when that or the action was submitted the email address of the board member column B column C the name column is a candidate first candidate Mr n and their scores question one through five here um I need little guidance from the from the board and our attorney are we so on column K I calculated based on first five questions even though we have interviewed six questions am I supposed to calculate all six count all six sum of all six or only the first five all six okay so the column K has a sum of all six questions from each board member for the candidate and then under column m is the score based on total of column k for first candidate and then for the second candidate thank you so much for um making sure uh that we uh provide transparency you know to everyone um to each other and to the public um and most importantly to our candidates thank you so much uh both Mr NN and Mr fam for applying for putting yourself um on the field you know um it's very easy to uh you know give suggestions and um have opinions but um it really takes uh a brave person to put themselves in the field um doing this work um in in you know answering these questions so thank you both for taking the time um for submitting a wellth thought out application with um the letters that you did and the time that you know you took in order to make sure that you had those applications in on time uh before noon last Monday and so at this time uh based on the results question yes because I'm not sure I I think I understand what I'm seeing here but I just want to clarify oh now it's flashing there we go so Mr then is the his final score is the light blue and Mr fam is the purple th those are the final total scores correct correct okay and unless I'm understanding wrong Mr avar no we are Absol you are absolutely correct yeah yeah column M light blue and the purple are their final scores okay and so I'll say them out loud in case anybody cannot see the screen um Mr Newan um has a total score of 66 and Mr Fram has a total score of 107 at this time and so with that um roio um is is it uh okay to um I guess based on that uh do the appointment and pass it on to Dr Bower um to help us uh get Mr fam sworn in at this time uh you should open it up to board discussion and entertain a motion in a second yes thank you okay so at this time I'd like to go ahead you're ready for a motion I'm sure if you're ready to give one unless yes we appoint uh me and fam uh to the um to the position of the board thank you so motion by Mr GTO and second by Mr veano um any want to have any comments or questions Mr banana yes thank you I do have uh just a couple quick comments I want to Echo um your comments uh president erera and and uh thank everybody who took part in this process including those who um you know who came who attended the last meeting and were considering becoming applicants even even at that stage it's it's um you know it's not insignificant to put your name forth and and kind of start the process of this and so I I really want to commend those individuals who were applicants at the first stage the two gentlemen that we had this evening who um took the time to complete and put some thought into their responses um and put their name out there it's not an easy process and and it's very transparent and and you know it's it's something that should be commended and and so I want to thank everyone including the community for their for their input and you know looking at just have the document right here looking at the um what we got for when we did our exercise where the community identified the community as a whole identified their um their priorities of the values that they thought would be good for a candidate um or an applicant um I think that the the top four were Equity lens racial Equity equity and transparency and so I think in some ways it is fortunate that we do have um representation from our Asian community and specifically Vietnamese Community as those numbers in our district um are you know do have at least some some level of representation now on the board however I also want to emphasize something that I've made me uh mention to in the past and it was brought up by one of our commenters tonight is that we as trustees are um you know we govern over an entire District regardless of of ethnicity or or race or Creed or religion or any of those things and so you know while it's good to have representation from a number of different identities or or beliefs um that that voice is important to have at the table um I'm excited as a board to be able to govern over all of our um families and and together with all of the families that we have because we do represent a very diverse area and a very diverse district and so I'm happy that we were able to um get two very qualified applicants that are reflective of the values that were expressed by the community and we're able to provide some very thoughtful meaningful responses to our questions and the values that we also identified as board members so so thank you everyone and I'm excited to um to see where where we can take the district in the coming coming year and Beyond thank you any others would like to say anything or um yeah brief comments just uh thank everybody for uh who was involved in the process of the applicant as well as um the the shared process you know uh then board president Bano the work that you did to put it together as well as now that you're the board president you've overseen the meeting so um thank you all for a uh a good process that U and then I do appreciate the community I know that uh initially there was concerns and those concerns were taken into account and we went ahead and met somewhere in the middle and came up with the process that that worked out for I I'm hoping that it worked out for everyone thank you and seeing no other uh Mr Rano sorry I I do want to say though I appreciate um Madame President your comments at the beginning of this meeting with regards to the kind of current national situation um and just that a very if you scale that all the way down from the national level to our level I think um to to truste K's comments it is important that we have these processes in place and that we follow processes we've seen what happens when processes are in place and people try to you know go around the processes or or change the processes and and it creates confusion on many levels so I think um I appreciate all the work again that everyone has done to establish a process to be transparent about the process and to follow the process to to to me that's that's good governance and that's um maintaining the order and and the progress that we need to continue to show as a district so I just wanted to make that connection between your comments Madam president and what it looks like for us here at this level absolutely thank you so much and with that um we'll go ahead and um pass it over to Dr Bower who will uh help us um swear in Mr fam at this time I'm I'm ready to go um yes thank you uh vice president um let's go ahead and take a vote so I'll just uh call your name as I see you on my list uh Mr weano all Miss Chavez hi vice president kto hi and myself I now uh we have appointed Mr fem um welcome to the board and at this time I will pass it on to Dr Bower Mr aano I see you grabbing your mic I'm not sure if you are getting ready to say something before we move on I just a quick I promise super quick uh Mr fam I just want to get clarification on how we pronounce your name is it do you prefer fam or fam or uh fam fam okay thank you thank you board president may may I add something yeah sure welcome uh yes the floor is yours welcome in uh uh from what I understand listening to Mr fam is uh he's not able to uh activate a camera right now and the oath of office has to be witnessed um so I would recommend that uh this actually has to be done when it's visible to the superintendent and one other witness for the district so this may need to take place tomorrow when he can get to a working camera okay thank you yes for bringing that up um and is there a time frame that needs to be done it needs to be done by uh no sooner rather than later but uh there's no drop dead deadline okay so Dr Bower and Mr fam um we get to coordinate time for tomorrow morning um what tomorrow morning work hello absolutely yeah the sooner the better yes um and Mr roio I mean is it a picture does it have to be done in any certain way no just so that he's visible to uh the superintendent and the witnessing okay so if it's okay with everybody I can follow up with Mr fam uh tonight uh I'll call him and uh I will let everybody know you know how this is going to be arranged for tomorrow so the board is aware of how he's going to take the the his oath and with them Miss uh Dr Bower I am flexible so um I will be able to be present to be at least that one um witness that's wonderful thank you and congratulations Mr fam and thank you so much Mr Nan uh for applying it means a lot to have people that are interested in coming and helping us serve our beautiful Community um with that um we'll do that in the morning yes we've done the report out on the Clos session um and at this time at 7:56 we'll go ahead and a journal our meeting thank you all so much um and we'll see you in a week see you all in one week thank you everyone thank you T night congratulations good night congratulations everybody thank you thank you

seconds remaining here in the third quarter as miller checks in for grace meyer looks like she's going to pick ravi up full court so she can't get a shot off and behind the back with three two one floater up and good corinne grimey to end the third quarter gives her 20 points on the ball game great job by her she took that one the full distance and gives the olympians the lead and i will turn it back over to the columbus east cheerleaders [Music] situations [Music] okay [Music] and there we have it as you heard it the columnist east varsity cheerleaders great job by the ladies there and it will be olympian basketball to start the fourth excuse me seymour basketball to start the fourth quarter it's in the third quarter as you guys saw corinne gravy with a great take and got the floater to fall before the buzzer as meyer will have the ball to start the fourth quarter miller will have it and she attacks inside and too high and saved by perry but a turnover by the olympians jenkins great move and draws a foul and she'll be at the line 4-2 emma jenkins has four points looking for six with the two free throws here 7 45 remaining here in the fourth quarter jenkins is looking the 18 foot free throw is off the mark substitution for seymour number 23 broke trinkle trinkle checks back in for seymour and she looks at her second looks good from here and good emma jenkins with five points here in the ball game tonight i believe this is the biggest lead of the ball games by the olympians seymour has not led in this ball game the closest they came to leading with six points better get something going here fast they're trying to come closer is that as a turnover once again by the olympians tipped around but finally into gravy's hands and she passed it to jenkins a side step and off the mark and rebounded and kept alive by sage stall and knocked out of her hands but jenkins gets it as gravy dribbles it out with seven minutes on the clock here in the orange pit and in the fourth quarter the olympians are looking to stay unbeaten in hoosier hills conference as that is stolen and stripped out of our hands two on one fast break for seymour trinkle with a great move just could not get it to fall and we're going to have a ah a defensive foul on the olympians allison craig picks up the foul her second team's four team fouls seymour with five and the olympians with four as leah bachmann checks in for emma jenkins leah bachman has seven points on tonight's contest as schrader has it kicks it out to meyer she stepped back threes fires it away and good a great looking shot there by grace meyer and that gives grace meyer 13 points grace meyer averaging 12.8 points per game six in the conference points wise and she's third in the conference and rebounds as she looks at a steal and she's going to take it herself can she draw the foul and she will she'll be at the line for two great play there by grace meyer on both ends she made the three-point basket got the steal and drew the foul she's shooting 80 percent at the free throw line and 29 beyond the three-point line so 80 at the free throw line 29 percent at threes and coach brown will take a timeout with 6 22 remaining here when we return grace meyer will be at the line for two free throws your right orange oranges and the refs calling their teams out timeout once again taken by the olympians grace meyer will be at the line for two free throws after she stole away and drove at the distance and drew the foul she leads seymour with 13 points on tonight's contest and here we go folks can see more cut into this lead and it is good 80 free throw shooter grace meyer converts the first and she's looking at her second he dribbles spins it and good grace meyer converts there gives her 15 points a strong second half by her and karen gravity throws it across court tipped but it falls in the hands of gabby dean and corinne gravy takes a short floater but off the mark an offensive rebound by sage stall and gives her 13 points great job to keep that play or possession i should say alive as that one is off the mark by schrader and the olympians and allison craig are looking to push the ball down the court and gives it to grivy by the hhc logo and she's going to dribble to her rights gives us a sage stall at the top of the key is bachmann looking for gabby dean gets it down low drop step and a block there by grace schroeder see if they can convert after the block as that's stolen and thrown right in the hands of grivy let's see if she can go to the line and no foul there but two points for corinne gravy gives her 22 points on the knights great performance by her and the corner is sterling ash trinkle has it back to meyer right wing is excuse me perry as schrader has it and we might have a jump ball jump ball possession goes to the olympians with 501 remaining as we have albany spear check in and number 13 kendrick sterling comes in for brook trinkle so both of the sterling's out there kendrick sterling and kendall sterling so 455 remaining here gabby dean has the ball around the free throw line dribbles to her right between the legs gives it to albany at the top and she hesitates gets inside floater shot is off the mark and rebounded by sterling and we're gonna have a foul call let's get a number here 32 gabby dean picks up her second team six so let's see if seymour can get something going here fast as meyer passes it to perry back to meyer she's going to attack inside jump stops up and good grace meyer strong second half for grace meyer she's at 17 inching closer to corinne gravy's 22 points on the night down inside to gabby dean bank shot up and good gabby dean 4-2 gabby dean with four points in tonight's contest but quite a bit of rebounds and blocks as well an all-around performance by gabby dean as that is up and good perry alyssa perry that is 4-2 gibbs are five points on the night first points here in the second half and we're gonna have a reach and foul by number three alyssa perry seymour fans not happy they think the calls have been not going both ways with 3 41 remaining here in the fourth quarter the olympians just need to finish this game continue doing what they're doing and they will come away with the win let's see if they can do just that as albany picks up her dribble stahl gives it down low to bachmann and gravy looks to attack and pulls it back out sage stall drives to her right throws it up high to bachmann and a blocked but a foul called by seymour that is grace schroeder will pick up the foul and put sage stall at the line excuse me leah bachmann at the line leah bachmann up and good gives her eight on tonight's contest 317 remaining as you can hear number 12 kaylee watskum checks in and that second one is off the mark and a timeout taken by seymour 30 second timeout 59.43 is our score once again we want to thank you guys for tuning in to the ninth contest 70 viewers that is it says according to the construction and columbus auto group for sponsoring these videos and perry will have it and as turnover by sage stahl in a full court pass to albany she will slow it down corinne gravy calls for it and throws up the shot and off to mark try to draw the foul there but didn't get the call there as meyer pushed the ball down as kaylee picks up her dribble and meyer will have it 235 coming up on the game clock as that one's almost poked away great hustle there by albany to get down on the floor but couldn't come up with it sterling has not yet scored here she was the go-to person for the owls in the first half as that shot is off the mark and three on one fast break can the olympians convert great pass there and sage stall converts on the assist from corinne gravy that gives her 15 on the night with two minutes coming up and a long three by grace meyer oh excuse me alyssa perry alyssa perry with eight points that's her second three of the ball game 150 coming up on the game clock can the olympians hold on to this big quarter this big lead and three-point basket is off the mark she stays with it and a hold 20 grace schrader will be her third team seven fouls so sadly that will put the olympians in the bonus corinne gravy so she would still get free throws but karen grivey has 22 points looking for 23 and 24 and we're gonna have some subs in here for the olympians jenna goose heidi murphy caitlyn crothers and number excuse me 34 harley gant so corinne grabby converts the first free throw and this could be her 24th and that might be all she can score tonight it looks like there is a sub for her and there we have it corinne gravy ends the night with 24 points great job to her and the rest of the olympian basketball team so it looks like all the starters are done this evening as we do have maylie robertson as that is blocked great job there by gantt to get that blocked shot and maybe robots will bring the ball down the court she dribbles to her right and gives it to the freshman jenna goose and she gets it down low to gant can she convert and off the mark great look there with 115 remaining here in the fourth quarter the olympians are looking to keep their winning streak alive as jenna goose will pick up the foul and that will put seymour at the line for the 1-1 with 113 remaining here put grace meyer at the line for the one-on-one it looks like we're gonna have some subs in here 21.

terry fay number two is sydney montgomery 33 is lexi morris and i missed the other one it looks like maybe number 12 kaylee was as grace converts there has puts grace misses that one so she only gets one there gives her 18 with one minute remaining here across court to jenna goose download a gantt and she fires that one up and no good but we have a foul with exactly one minute on the clock excuse me i will get the scoreboard correctly here there we go i think it's all up to date with one minute on the clock harley game picks up the fouls so grace meyer will sit down for the rest of the evening most likely she finishes with 18 solid points she finished the second half strong she got off to a slow start came out in the second half and finished well so if you're a seymour fan you love to see that as that as an offensive rebound by number 21 torrey fay jump ball possession air belongs to the olympians 56 seconds remaining here 63-47 is our score once again the jv team did pick up a big win 59-26 says that is a great looking three-point shot by number 12.

kaylee waskin her first points of the night as jenna goose does not get it but caitlyn crothers with a strong rebound and a good shot there gives her four points on the knives great job by caitlin to find the ball and put it back up and the three-point shot once again taken by seymour and off the mark and rebounded by gant and murphy will pass it to robert she's gonna fire a three that's what she's known for and off the mark and an offensive rebound by murphy and shorts gets it again and off the backboard good heidi murphy 4-2 will give her force points in the varsity action here as that is blocked and there we have it ladies and gentlemen that will be our final score 67.50 once again we want to thank you guys for tuning in to tonight's contest we also want to give a special thank you to our sponsors for construction and columbus auto group as you can see our columbus east cheerleaders down there on the floor and there's a scoreboard for tonight's contest so thank you guys for all watching this bcsc livestream here at columbus east high school the score 56-50 the lady olympians become nine and and 4-0 on the season the lady olympians will be back in action here in the orange pit to take on hoosier hill conference opponent the bedford stars on the 12th and that's going to be a great matchup to see so put that in on your phone calendar make a note because this is for first place in the conference as they are also undefeated in that conference so a big game that is january 12th here on the orange pit and here we'll be live on the bcsc live stream once again we want to thank our sponsors columbus auto group and forced construction sadly that's all we have here today as you can see our cheerleaders with one final cheer scoreboard one final time so from colin and myself malachi parks we want you to have a great rest your evening thank you guys for all tuning in and a great job to the ladies one final time to give some stats leading the way for seymour grace meyer with 18.

good evening ladies and gentlemen once again we are live here in the orange pits to see some indiana high school basketball and we will have a good contest on our hands tonight as the videos the perry meridian falcons taking on the columbus east olympians once again we want to thank our sponsors columbus auto group and forced construction for sponsoring these live streams and we want to thank you guys for watching so we'll take a look into this perry meridian falcons team they're coming into this matchup four and three and one and one in their conference play zach when you look at a team that they have played if you look at their schedule they play play teams like whiteland center grove pike and bloomington north so zach how does playing teams like this get you ready for bigger games well going up against some of the best teams in the state you have a really good idea of what type of team you're going to have yourself and it might help you trying to elevate your play to be some of the best you know you got to figure out what type of players you have and that's a really good really good foregoing to what might happen later in the season the falcons come in to the knights contest averaging 53.3 points per game 22.1 rebounds 9.9 assists and 5.9 blocks zach 53 points per game might not sound like a lot of points but they put up 73 and 75 against 6a powerhouse center grove and beat center grove as well so what do you think we need to do defensively to stop them well i think we're going to hit on that later in our keys to the game but definitely for east they're going to have to learn how to block out north games spelt their downfall on the defensive and offensive rebounding criteria so they're going to have to definitely short that up and watertastic success tonight because looking at warmups and perry meridian they have a little bit of size on their team they are led by butler commit jayden taylor who was averaging 24.3 points per game 6.1 rebounds and two assists i'm sure zach will be calling his name a lot tonight another key player is reggie mcdonald who is averaging 8.8 points 4.9 rebounds and three assists so zach if you're an olympian fan it looks like we're gonna have our hands full tonight yes for sure definitely lots of players that prairie meridian has east is going to key in on all of them and we'll take a look at the columbus east olympians they come in tonight's matchup with a rough start with a record of one and six on the year they're coming off a hard-fought game against the crosstown rival columbus north zak i thought we were going to somewhat pull it out there at the end but let's start with the negatives what did the o's do not so well there really honestly obviously the big thing is rebounding they just did not do a good job of boxing out they didn't do a good job of running to the ball off of miss and north is able to get some easy opportunities for second chance points and second chance possessions so obviously that's not a bright spot but offensively they had a little bit of success not as much as you really wanted i just felt like north kind of clamped down on them they had a few stretches where they just went dry and positively wise i think they just need to build on some of the things that they did well there's there's really just not that many things that they did too well but it's hard to figure out what you're going to be able to do tonight against some a really good team in perry meridian the olympians are coming in tonight's game averaging 63.9 points 21.4 rebounds 13.4 assists and four steals zach it looks like our scoring average has gone down over the last couple games what is the insight on why this might be well obviously the north game they did not score that many points part of that's because just the magnitude of the game lots of jitters running through you and usually in games like that you score a lot less points than you should have and the teams that they played you know that's just they probably aren't really the best defensive teams they were to get some easy points and east has just been able to make some shots and hopefully they'll be able to do that again tonight in order to more to stay in this game so the leaders for this team will start with tyler boyer who is second in the conference in scoring with 18.3 points per game 4.4 rebounds and averaging 1.7 assists on the year next in the lineup is gino murphy who is tied excuse me who is in third in the hhc was scoring with 13.1 5.1 rebounds and three assists and lastly jacob pierce who is averaging 12 points per game puts jacob fifth in the conference scoring wise he also averages 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists with that zach that means three out of the five starters are averaging double digits so as a coaching staff in a team you have to feel good about that at least yes for sure you whenever you have a three-headed monster like that that's able to score rebound and assist the ball to other teammates that could be a big boost to your team going it out into the season so we are just over a minute until tip-off so we'll go ahead and do the zac report so zach what do the olympians and the falcons need to do tonight to come away with the win well further let's start with the falcons here the visitors tonight i think they just need to do what they've been doing all season and get the ball to their star players and that's uh that's the butler commit i've been watching them all warm up and i think definitely the offense will be running through him tonight they also have a little bit of size maybe try and get the ball down low in order to get some easy points underneath as for the east they're definitely going to have to rebound the ball a lot better than they did against north i've always keyed on that earlier let's see if that's a big factor heading in and definitely keep ball handlers in front of them if they get some penetration i feel like perry marin is going to be able to exploit that so definitely keep dope keep ball handlers in front of them so there we have it the zachary point once again zach you do a great job start calling you tony romo here for in the booth here but 30 seconds to go until tip off as you can see the olympians are headed to their bench and perry meridian is going to probably head over there in a few seconds zach you had to call middle school game last night and i had a girls high school basketball game the lady yos did pick up the win how did your middle scheme school games go how did northside look northside looked pretty well they definitely beat up a little bit on the perimeter excuse me the uh the southport cardinals so they they handle them pretty well both seventh and eighth grade over i think about 30 or 40 points victory for both both grades so all right there's there we have it the buzzer and i will send it back down to dennis pierce for the national anthem and starting lineups and the home of olympian basketball as this evening we proudly present a regular season match-up between the olympians of columbus east and the visiting falcons of prairie verde in high school and now ladies and gentlemen at this time we ask that you please stand the privilege of this game was made possible by those who have fought and continue to fight for the freedoms we enjoy let us honor and respect their efforts and our country by gentlemen removing their caps everyone standing in attention placing their hands over their hearts as we proudly play our national anthem [Music] thank you and now i'd like to introduce your starters for our visitors to see me the perry meridian falcons at guard a 6-4 senior number 10 jayden taylor that guard a 5-9 senior number 12 ranchi mcdonald at garvey five nine senior number fourteen mason coursera and forwarding six three sophomore number 42 patrick shot [Music] you're head coach for your falcons mark james and that is your perimeter falcons and now living fans it's time to get on your feet let's introduce your scars for your confidence east olympians edgar a 6-2 senior number 10 daniel murphy [Music] [Applause] a 510 senior excuse me 510 junior number will reekers [Applause] that caught a 6-1 senior number 31 jacob pierce and it forward a 6-3 senior number 33 tyler warrior your head coach for the olympians brent city and that is so there we have it ladies and gentlemen the starting lineups for each team tonight once again we want to thank you guys for tuning in here on the bcsc youtube channel if you're an olympian fan i'm sure you're glad to see number 11 back in the starting lineup he's been out for a little while got some playing time in the north game and he is back in the starting lineup that has been major who comes in averaging 7.2 points 1.1 rebound and two assists a game so zach i'm sure he's glad to be out there as well yeah i agree ben provided a little bit of a steady hand at the north cam as far as ball handling wise goes so definitely a welcome sight back to see ben major back on the court as daniel murphy we will be doing the tip off and number 42 patrick shot is doing the tip for perry meridians as we win the tip and pierce is bringing the ball down passes it to ben major looking at boyer in the corners murphy quick three and a way off the mark there by daniel murphy and rebounded by reggie mcdonald let's see if the olympians can step up on the defensive end looks like we're gonna have ben major on the butler commit it's number 10 jaden taylor and a three second violation there so far so good for the olympians defensively yeah it was either going to be a three second call or close to a traveling call good call by the referee there on the baseline they do have some height advantage over us so i'm sure we're gonna have to do extra emphasis on blocking out as that shot was off the mark and mcdonald looks to push the ball gives it to taylor ben major is going to have his hands full tonight as taylor s step back great recovery there by major in a turnover and stolen by pierce jacob pierce with the steal and he's gonna hesitate and did not get the foul call but a strong rebound there by daniel murphy in the corner tyler boyer for three and off the mark long rebounded by reekers all three point baskets here taken by the olympians yeah not sure that wasn't a foul on pierce down below he got both of his defenders up in the air and he rose while they were falling down he didn't get the call this meridian team looks very long and fast so i'm sure getting inside and trying to get points is going to be hard here tonight the perry marine area always produces pretty good athletes no matter what sport it is and they're always known for their wrestling program as well coach cooper with the resident team good battle as far as wrestling goes as there was a travel violation i think every team we played so far either has a well recruited or an all-around team but i think that's what you get when you're playing in a state of indiana that produces very well-rounded basketball players what's your take on that there zach well definitely indiana produces great athletes no matter what sport it is but basketball is probably second to none when it comes to top tier schools and athletes see if the olympians can continue to hold them scoreless here as taylor is going to hesitate he's taking it to his left and blocked by daniel murphy a big block there and rebounded by tyler boyer tyler boyer comes in averaging 4.4 rebounds and that was a big one there and he's going to attack in a turnover there and stolen by mcdonald they have the numbers up to taylor and he will put up an easy two points there for the first points of the game just outnumbered there on that one there zach three on two transition vowel from perry as major passes it back to murphy a 2-3 zone look for meridian that might be a great defense for them as they were long and can stretch out the court there and make the olympians just continue to shoot it outside i think that's a fair observation in malachi definitely one of the longer teams i think we played this year and definitely athletic all around they may be able to watch the north film and wondered that we got off to a slow start shooting wise and there might be a reason why they're going to this zone look early well i think that's another another thing it's definitely looked at at film and it's been evident early as east has had some troubles offensively missing some shots and a turn over there 4 45 remaining here in the first quarter to 0 is our score passes it to and taylor will draw the foul there ben major picks up his first first foul of the ball game we have our first sub of the night number 50 john joyce he's got the nice mullet looking haircut there zach yes he does has that stolen by boyer he passes the ball up to pierce picks his dribble up gives it two major one thing i noticed about number fifties here i wonder if he talked to patrick mahomes about it because to get the homes array for state farm there you go i like that commercial it's pretty funny there as reekers hesitates fires up and no good and rebounded by mcdonald up is taylor and he's gonna drive it and short on the shots and rebounded by reekers one of the smaller guys on the court good job by reekers reekers comes in averaging 2.6 rebounds kick out to pierce 4-3 on its way and no good and rebounded by joyce the well has been dry for the olympians so far in the first quarter just have not been able to get anything to go defensively wise i think they've been pretty stout to begin this game how important is it to get off to a quick early start here against a really good basketball team defensively wise i don't think it's been an issue they just gave up one transition point but their half court defense has been pretty well as that is jaden taylor butler commits he's got five points already here tonight 3 15 on the clock let's see if the olympians can get something going here i think this is the first team that's we played that's had quite a bit of seniors as reekers gets that one to fall will reekers with the first two points they have one two three four five six seven seniors on the falcons lineup there zach yeah it seems like we're always the team has the most seniors as we have so we have six but actually for the first time i think all year they outnumber us the falcons do this evening and seniors as a big shot there you saw by reekers he comes in averaging 9.6 points per game and he gets us on the board with two points with two 38's remaining here in the first quarter a long three by taylor and he is hot early not a sign you want to see if you're coach city in the olympians no but he's a butler commit for a reason somebody's got to get a hand out on him he's hit two threes he hit that one all the way by the hhc logo ben mage is going to answer back with the three and he does ben major 4-3 might be a spark or a momentum boost you'd be surprised what three-point baskets can do to a team as ben major hits the corner three there and down three with two minutes on the clock gets it inside an easy two points for number 44 noah piddleton and in the corner ben majors gets it blocked great hustle there by reggie mcdonald and number 14 is pushing it down to taylor he's going to fire a three and nothing but nets taylor with this third three just here in the first quarter and pierce is going to drive baseline and get the foul called on number 44 noah peddlinson i think that's an advantage that the olympians have they need to take advantage of a mismatch like that pierce on the appears to be a little slower 44 takes them on the drive and gets the hand check ben silva checks in who is averaging 4.9 points per game and casey bartholomew also checks in averaging 1.3 casey bertholm you early on in the season really didn't get much playing time but he's definitely proved himself over the last few games yeah i think every time bartholomew comes in he provides definitely good some rebounding a little bit of size and there i don't think there's really been that negatives in the limited action that he's played in i'm excited i'm glad that he's getting some minutes here in a meaningful game as the three-point shot was off by silva and a great cross over there by mcdonald and he fires the shot up and off the mark and rebounded by number 22 zach douglas coming up on one minute 5-13 is our score mcdonald is very quick i saw on his twitter he was a slot receiver for their football team and it says in his bio a 4.6 40.

[Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] thank you [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] do [Music] good evening everybody welcome to greensburg high school for this exciting ihsaa high school basketball event you're joining us here live from greensburg community high school with an eiac match-up between the visiting connersville spartans and your own greensburg pirates i'm jason simpson joined tonight by josh lee josh i think we're in for a game here with the pirates and spartans it's going to be a tale of two different styles yeah you know greensburg's always trying to get it up and down under stacey meyer connorsville they've been you know under carrie brown for what 12 13 years now and and he's a slow it down grind it kind of guy kind of style and and we've seen it over the years that we've played you know sometimes you're gonna get uh games that are in the 60s which is pretty high in this in this matchup and other times you're going to get games in the 30s so it'll be interesting to see who controls that pace well before we get into tonight's game as you said the pirates are normally led by head coach stacey meyer stacy's in his 15th year here at greensburg with a 272 and 78 record his 20th year overall with a career record of 330 and 134 but tonight the pirates will be led by coach scott holdsworth as coach meyer is away dealing with the family health issue and we just want coach meyer and his family to know that all of our thoughts and prayers here at g-tv are with them during this trying time but josh as we get back to basketball the pirates come in with a five-on-one record the spartans come in at six and two and in the eiac conorsville has actually already played two games and they sit at two-and-oh atop the standings and tonight will actually be the pirates first conference game so this is going to go a long way i would say at the beginning of the season these two teams were tabbed as the two favorites and so not only is this for bragging rights of two sectional opponents this could really even though this will be the third game for connersville and only the first for the pirates this could decide the conference title tonight and and you know it it's kind of seemed to be that way and maybe not every year with conorsville and greensburg and you're going to sprinkle in batesville here and there even though the last couple years they've been a little down but it typically has been greensburg connorsville and again those contrasting styles make it interesting you know you get a cup somebody with two quick fouls lane you know pick up a couple early fouls conorsville gets up seven or eight points and they kind of take the air out of the basketball they're just really disciplined uh in what they do under coach brown so it's important for our pirates to get off to a really good start in the conference and uh and hopefully we can go one-and-oh well like we said conorsville comes in with a six and two record they got to that point they started out the season that with they started the season oh and one they lost at delta 43-32 then they won three games in a row defeating rushville 60-39 taking down winchester 46-44 in overtime and then picking up their second eiac victory by taking down the knights of south dearborn 69-38 they got their second loss of the season on december 19th when they traveled to richmond losing that contest to richmond 49-39 they then moved on to their next three games getting victories and no's they won at greenfield central 48-31 then they hosted both union county and mccutcheon winning those two games 61-29 and 50-28 respectfully that's how the team itself got to where it is josh why don't you tell us a little about a little bit about some of the players that we can expect to stand out tonight for the spartans you know it looks like to me just looking at some of their stats obviously they're a balanced team they're averaging 50 points a game or right around 50 points a game they have five guys that average in between five points and nine points and nobody over ten so again that's going to be again controlling that pace uh they've got billups a number 12 a junior guard he's averaging nine points a game they got a senior guard in graham who's averaging eight points a game and then again they've got a couple big guys that are around that six seven point mark uh mark on the year so anybody in this offense when they're only scoring 50 points a game can hurt you somebody breaks out for 12 14 points that could be the difference in the game so a really balanced approach from the spartans like it is year in and year out then our pirates come into tonight with a 5-1 record pirates actually started the season winning their first four games in a row first game wasn't played until december 5th traveled to trinity lutheran and came away with an 89-51 victory then they traveled to county rival south decatur winning 81-73 and then made the trip past south decatur down to jennings county where they defeated the panthers 73-63 pirates wrapped up bragging rights in the county on december 22nd when north decatur came to town besting the chargers 85-41 the pirates lone loss of the season came at home on december 29th against fishers the pirates fell that night 59-41 and then last week the day after new year's pirates traveled to columbus to take on the olympians of columbus east and they came away with a very nice 72-54 victory over a very solid columbus east team on their own home floor now we all know that lane sparks is the star the straw that stirs the drink of the pirates tell us a little bit about the statistics of the entire pirate roster yeah and you know you've been watching the games if you're watching us on gtv obviously you follow the pirates so they're primarily going to play five to six guys uh you know lane is leading the way with uh 30 points a game and i think the most impressive thing about that statistic josh he's not only averaging 30.2 points per game but you want to talk about efficiency he's doing it by shooting 70 percent from the field so to say that he is affecting the game in a very positive way might be the understatement of the century and and you know it's been a long long time since i've seen somebody that can just get anything that they want around the rim and and he's got a motor and a second jump that first jump yes he can jump off the ground but that second jump allows him to get extra chances by getting offensive rebounds and with that uh how high he can jump he can rise up and hit those 15 footers which you've seen for four years he doesn't miss many of those obviously with a 70 free throw shooting but he's not the only one i mean we have threats all around the court you know you have stanley and walters that can get stuff done inside a cummer as uh you know following drew his brother and just a really good shooter uh and dyer you know he's averaging seven points a game kai dyer so a really balanced approach outside of lane and you have addison coming in as a freshman that just he does a lot of really good things a lot gets a lot of hustle points so he's averaging four points a game so obviously we're led with lane but there's other guys that can hurt you as well oh for sure and i think what what i find so interesting about this is is lane comes in averaging 30 a game colin comes in averaging 16 but then you look at those two it's not just about scoring for them they're also two of our three leading rebounds colin comes in averaging 5.8 so basically six rebounds a game and lane comes in averaging 5.2 so lane's at 30 points 5.2 rebounds 5.3 assists and only turns the ball over about two and a half times a game so you know you you have that the magical assist the turnover ratio is above where you wanted as a coach you know they always say two to one and you know he he's exactly where you want him to be uh colin averaging almost three assists a game so those guys not only get it done on the offensive end for themselves with the ball in their hands but they're setting up their teammates they're doing a great job on the glass and just they just do a great job of leading this team and you know i haven't been able to come to a lot of games we're in a different time you know and i used to be able to come to every home game that they had and even some away games but what i've noticed when watching it on gtv or even on periscope as long as we can take care of the basketball we are really tough to beat and that's going to be of high importance against connersville because again if you start turning it over right away they're going to slow it down they're going to take the air out of the basketball and you're going to find yourself down 12 to 2 quickly and they're not even playing quick just turning it over so they're really sound fundamental fundamentally it's just going to be a really tough tough matchup if we turn the ball over like we have in a couple games this year and what we have to watch too is it's not only their tempo on offense but coach brown prides himself on defense and coaches around the state go to him for different drills to run and different things that he does in his scheme because he's so well known for the defense that his teams play and so not only do we have to be solid defensively because we know that connorsville is going to work for what they want but we also have to be patient ourselves offensively and not make those the the you know the behind-the-back passes or that flashy pass you know you've got to be solid and set up cuts and make deep cuts and make sure you're screening bodies in our motion offense and don't settle for hitting that first curl or that first that first maybe open look you get this is going to be one of those nights where you have to take the first not the first good look you get but work for a great look now before we get started here we're going to step away for the playing of our national anthem and we will rejoin you again as the ball is ready to be tipped the coach's coach the officials officially and the spectators be positive fans earlier this week long time greensboro teacher and varsity basketball coach phil snodgrass passed away please join us in a moment of silence for the snogless family thank you and now to honor america and the brave men and women who serve this nation sophomore's tyler simpson and macy smith will sing our national [Music] anthem [Music] stripes and bright [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] foreign about ready to tip off here josh why don't you run down the starting lineups for both teams all right for connersville we're gonna go graham number five a five seven senior phillips number 12 a 510 junior sparks the number 30 a 6-2 junior myers number 32 a 6-2 sophomore and martin a 6-4 senior number 40 and then your pirates are going to start like they typically start cummer dyer sparks stanley and walters all right colin cummer and martin set the tip off here to get this eiac battle underway don't get to say this often but the pirates might actually not be undersized still controlled by the pirates as sparks brings it across the timeline 1-4 high set here to begin dyer swings over to walters over to the right wing to dyer hit sparks at the top of key to dyer back in the corner up top to walters good patience being shown so far by the pirates like we talked about in the pregame sparks look to drive right cut off hits walters in the corner who's going to drive pulls up from about 12.

pretty fast to me yes definitely that's definitely one of the quicker times for a high school players 4 6 is usually pretty good you don't really see many pros running that some wide receivers and pros don't run that probably if you're just looking at him the perfect kind of high school slot receiver there definitely you want a slot receiver to be a jittery type and he definitely fits that role perfectly and 25 seconds is on the clock here one more shot here and a great trap there by the falcons 21.7 seconds silva's gonna take it out and throw it all the way back to major and back to silva and reekers has he's going to dribble to his right gives it to bartholomew back out to silva had been major wide open and murphy will find him strong take by major up he was and for that heavy he was open for about two or three seconds his teammates finally found him hate to see that if you're an olympian fan reggie mcdonald closes the quarter outs with a three falcons lead 16 the olympians lead excuse me the falcons 16 the olympian seven and i will send it over to the columbus east cheerleaders [Music] what [Music] wow [Music] there we have it our columbus east cheerleaders they've had back-to-back nights as they were here last night for the girls basketball i wonder how sore or how much toll it takes on their body cheering multiple nights in a row well as far as i can tell i don't think we'll ever know that's exactly right so here we have it the second quarter is underway after a long three by reggie mcdonald to close the quarter four three-point baskets were made just in the first quarter three by taylor and one by mcdonald and there's another three taken by the falcons and off the mark and an offensive rebound there for the falcons and second chance point is no good rebounded by silva silva comes in averaging 4.4 rebounds and he gets one there tonight as pierce picks his dribble up gives it to boyer back to silva and pierce casey bartholomew will take a three up and off the mark tries to follow his shots but rebounded by the falcons and they're looking to push the ball off the court hesitation pump fake back to taylor and he's gonna take it himself and draw the foul 43 that is casey bartholomew who picks up his first team second with 701 remaining here in the second quarter and they get into number 44 that's noah pettinson and blocked by bartholmeo looks like and boy is going to push the ball up and gives it to pierce but back to boyer and pierce gets it and through the hands of taylor and out to silva for three and off the mark and a strong rebound there by tyler boyer but he will step out of bounds and the falcon basketball olympiads have had some good looks here this evening just have not been able to get any of them to fall here early hopefully that changes as the game goes on here we go mcdonald's brings it down passes it to noah and mcdonald gives it to taylor and an illegal screen there that is 42 patrick shot it'll be his first didn't really see too much of what happened but i think it looked pretty he was standing still i think he just may have stuck his hip out a little bit and that caused the offensive foul so let's see if the olympians can get something going here as reekers has it in the left corner looks like they switched to a man-to-man defense there and bartholomew passes it to silva pierce has it on the left wing spins back to his left and a double team he's picked his dribble up out to silva he's going to try another three and good and nothing but nets ben silva four three paramedian defense play some really good strong team defense they had great communication especially on the left wing with pierce but able to find a hole in it and get an open three for silva in the right corner i was about to say that was a big time shot there by silva cuts the lead to six with 5 36 remaining here in the second quarter and a crossover in the corner for the falcons and they cannot answer back with the three but rebounded by taylor and a strong take by taylor two of my keys to the game were very evident right there taylor with the drive and kick miss three opportunity and then an offensive rebound caused more problems again for the olympians and that shot was off the mark and taylor's gonna bring it down and he's gonna put it up but off the mark and he gets his offensive rebound and misses it a strong rebound there by casey bartholomew and zach i want to keep saying jonathan taylor for the falcons player here tonight hopefully we see a lot of jonathan taylor tomorrow in buffalo let's see if he can duck it here he's all alone and an easy slam for jaden taylor and a timeout taken by coach city as the lead was cut down to six and back up to ten there zach yeah probably a good time out from coach city here momentum was swinging towards the prairie marine they got a couple of easy points offensive rebounds olympians losing a little bit of that defensive prowess they had in the first quarter so we'll take a short break here with 4 45 remaining here in the first excuse me second quarter all right zach we are back here and if you had to guess how many first half points so far do you think jayden taylor has scored i don't know the exact number but if i had to guess i'd say 15 man you're right on the dot there 15 first half points actually 15 first half points good job there i did not give him the answer if you guys are watching this as it looks like julius daly's going to check in he comes in averaging 3.2 points per game and a mcdonald passes up on a three and it daniel murphy he does that so well he's done that all season him and pierce do a great job of taking charges very very sly movement in order to move your body in position for that murphy once again showing that on display see if the olympians can spark some momentum here as daley passes it to boyer looks like this falcon teams has a good old slide and shuffle drill down the court they slide very well and move their feet very well it's hard to tell if they're in a man look or a zone look they seem to it's kind of it looks like a zone but i think it has many man principles within it as they play many lots of good team defense and that's on display again jaden taylor will check in for reggie mcdonald so this is as an olympian fan you have one of their good players out you need to take control there and get some points scored before they come back in and a hard strong pass and tipped out of bounds off of daniel murphy was intended for the first person in the corner number number 14 but 50 uh intercepted it and then tried to pass it back out to 14 and went went off an olympian i don't know about that call but feel prime reading ball here 3 40 on the clock here 10 to 20 is our score as major is on taylor i'm sure major is going to feel his legs sore tomorrow morning maybe trying to guard him all night as a long three taken by taylor and a nothing but to nets he gives him 18 points on the night here just in the first half and he comes in averaging 24.2 points per game he's looking to beat that one here tonight he's well on his way that's for sure i mean three minutes left in the second he could definitely break his scoring average and try and ounce it up a little bit as the foul drawn by boyer one thing the falcons have done good so far of stopping the three-headed monster as you mentioned murphy pierce and boyer are scoreless here and we've played halfway through the second quarter yeah olympian's got to get the ball into their best players hands but perry mourinho has done a good job of taking away from that as murphy gets it in let's see sadly number 11 ben major with five points here tonight we'll travel there and reggie mcdonald looks like to be checked in with three minutes on the clock here let's see how each team will finish the half here let's see who's going to go in with the momentum going into halftime as taylor picks up a foul probably a good call from the referee there it says he used his elbow to hook him around in order to get around them didn't really see it too much but probably definitely the right basketball i just want to have a will reekers checks in a crazy stat for will reekers he comes in a hundred percent at the free throw line 11 of 11 on the year very impressive him and ben silva are the only two people on the team shooting 100 percent out the line so far this season and reekers kicks it out to murphy boyer two major and murphy will take a three and off the mark and a that's what you call high putting the ball there as taylor gets the rebound on a great pass but off the mark and rebounded by boyer three on two fast break can we get something here and ben major will fire the little floater shots and off the mark with 2 15 to go here in the second quarter and mcdonald's gonna take it and off the mark and rebounded by will reekers will reekers likes to do the dirty work despite his size he goes in there and crashes the rebounds hard somebody needs to for the olympians they just not a good rebounding team and reekers despite his size usually appears to be the best rebounder they have will reekers once again comes in averaging 2.6 rebounds i'm sure that set will go up after tonight's game if he continues to play like he has so far as murphy gets that one tipped tried to do a no-look pass there and taylor's all alone and there it is again daniel murphy taking the charge turnover for a turnover he caused one and he got it right back taylor will pick up his second team six foul will sit him down most likely for the rest of the half there yeah i definitely don't want to risk wrist foul especially with the lead that it is def he'll probably sit the rest of the quarter let's see if the olympians can get some points scored here before halftime with 1 30 on the clock because that one's tipped out of bounds by reggie mcdonald and siva will take the ball out in the corner is major looked at a three but did not take it boyer will clear major out and murphy will have it he looks at a three i've just been very impressed i know we keep saying it but their defense a pressure on the ball i should say as ben silva answers with the three he has six points with both of them coming off a threes with one minute to go here cuts the lead back down to 10.

no good kept alive by stanley but controlled by martin of the spartans that was still a really good possession you know they took 40 seconds off the clock got a pretty good look at it so you know pirates keep doing that good things are going to happen phillips brings it across hits graham back out to billups phillips swings to the corner to spark sparks for three no good kai dyer controls a rebound he's gonna race it up the floor looks to attack [Applause] dyer will be called for a charge and that's something that you definitely that goes to that those defensive principles of of coach i just had a brain coach brown thank you coach carrie brown good lord you don't normally do that on on live uh broadcast you're not supposed to do that but i digress but those are the fundamentals that coach brown has has taught and so that's something else that goes into the patience of your offense you have to know that they're going to be back there waiting and you know if you're going to jump to pass they are going to be waiting for that you got to stay on your feet to make passes as usual good patience being shown here by the spartans phillips controls on the left wing he swings outside to graham graham over to the right wing to sparks swung back over to graham two sparks high post controlled now by martin phillips surveys things he's gonna hit martin at the high post pirate faithful wanting to travel on that play not sure that i disagree i think he got away with two travels on that play you know it's gonna it's really gonna you have to determine greensburg they're gonna have to sit here and play good defensive possessions for more than 40 seconds at times and hopefully you get them to turn it over like that and that's exactly what you want if you can just stay stay solid and stay patient defensively you know most times you talk about that offensively but stay patient defensively you might get a turnover like that now as sparks will control for the pirates dyer takes it as we're going to see a set here going to run a little rocket action to lane sparks sparks is going to attack off that left wing kicks to walters in the corner quick catch and shoot three for dyer that's no good rebound controlled there by martin of the spartans that was good ball movement there and dyer got a good look at it he just got to knock that down phillips looking to enter it for the spartans kicks over to myers to graham martin tries to lob inside tipped away and stolen by sparks sparks pulls up from 15 in and out no good rebound controlled by billups who's going to bring it across for the spartans doesn't look to attack graham with a deep three his three-point attempt is no good lane controls the rebound he's looking to push the issue in transition don't know if it got tipped or what but lane controlled it laid it in 4-2 we're not going to complain because that was one for the good guys and i don't think that on that previous possession that's probably not a shot that coach brown wants graham to take a shot from just inside the volleyball line gives lane a an easy chance to go down there and get a little transition basket phillips into the corner to graham graham back out over to martin martin swings right to sparks sparks on the attack to graham myers out top swings to sparks back to myers over to phillips billups in the corner to graham graham's three-point attempt is good four minutes to go here in the first quarter pirates trail now three to two as sparks hits up the right wing to comer back to sparks over to the left to dyer sparks attacks from the right wing and one basket goes we're going to get an and one here that foul will be credited to number 32 of conorsville that's braxton myers his first teams first lane's free throw attempt is up and good 3 50 to go now pirates take the lead five to three so if you noticed on that drive they got colin cummer on one side and lane sparks going downhill with his right hand sparks for connorsville couldn't help off of colin cummer and just got lane in an easy one-on-one and he's going to convert that every single time corner three attempt by graham is good his second in a row conorsville retakes a lead six to five 320 to go here in the first half sparks in the corner to walters tipped away stolen by connorsville graham in for two connersville now leads eight to five sparks brings it across the timeline for the pirates into the corner to dyer fake three in attack by kai no good comer attacks off the left wing going to be a foul on the play it's going to be called on the floor good recognition there by colin to see that the left wing even though the ball had just been swung from there everything cleared out and he had that entire side of the floor to attack so he attacked one on one did a great job drawing that foul we're gonna have our first sub of the game now 44 gage brown of the spartans comes in kai looking things over dyer enters to walters out top back to sparks lane attacks his layup attempt is no good controlled there by myers of conorsville phillips brings it up for the spartans phillips surveys looks like now they're going to be intent on running graham off as many baseline screens as they can they found the hot hand so what are they going to do they're going to get their shooter open as a fellow shooter i do like that style of offense walters does a good job of on the ball defense there keeping myers out of the lane over to graham on the bait left baseline corner surveys things here we go he's going to back it back out they'll reset their offense phillips at the top gonna run graham off a couple more baseline screens dyer doing a nice job staying right on his shirt tail high post a little high low entry back out to graham graham's three-point attempt no good rebound there by dakota walters cummer brings it across skips across to sparks back across to dyer sparks from about 18.

miller passes it to number 20. let's see if the olympians can get a good stop here and it looks like they're gonna hold it four maybe one last shot with 40 seconds on the clock meridian holding the ball for the last shot here with 30 seconds left in the quarter to uh definitely what we saw what east did in the first quarter parameters going to copy that and try and draw a play of their own to score before the half so you can hear their coach was saying something to a def one of them falcons players did not like their defensive way that was ran the last possession as that one's off the mark we have a shot here with five seconds can we get it off in time murphy's going to take it he's going to drive kick it out to boyer with one second on the clock up and no good great look there by tyler boyer could not get that one to fall olympians the score does not say how well i think the olympians have played on the offensive end they've had some pretty good looks they just have not been able to get them to go down there's another example there before half wide open in the corner couldn't get it to fall tyler boyer does come in shooting 48 percent beyond the arc i'm sure he's going to be frustrated with himself at halftime as once again boyer pierce and daniel murphy once again scoreless it's been the younger guys and majors stepping in big time here in the first half so we will take a short break and we will have the halftime report here shortly once again we want to thank you guys for tuning in to tonight's live stream why is the columbus auto group the number one destination thank you guys for tuning in if you would please like and subscribe to the youtube channel so you'll be notified for all the varsity home match-ups so zack 10-point ball game in favor of the falcons olympians had some bright spots some negative spots give us your take on that first half the olympia's not in a bad spot at all as far as the scoreboard goes i don't think it truly reflects how they play here tonight they've been a little shaky on the offensive end but when they've gotten open shots i can only rule the call one or two times where they've just been able to hit them they've had lots of good opportunities behind the arc and they just have not been able to capitalize they can get at least half of those i think the scoreboard in this game is a lot closer than what it says as i heard the radio guys talking next to us it said jayden taylor was the only person to score for the falcons in that second half he's been red-hot with 18 points and reggie mcdonald has added in five and noah peddlington has added in two so that's the scoring for the falcons as for ease you try to rely on your senior people the three-headed monster we talked about the falcons have held them scoreless so ben silva with six three-pointers excuse me six points two three-pointers ben major has stepped up with five and will reekers with two so what's something these olympians team needs to do i mean besides knocking down shots do you think the falcons are just adding good pressure or what is it here tonight i think it's a i think it's mostly due to the falcons pressure and knowing that east has those three scores and they've been a good job able to take them away luckily they've had a couple other he's had a couple other players step up for him ben major will reekers and ben silva taking place of that scoring a little bit but east is going to have to have some help not only all three of them to step up we all know they started off slow against north in the first half as well and kind of got things going in the second half so hopefully that happens and we're able to continue to play great defense as we've had here tonight 23 points and a half is okay if you let up i guess as a coaching staff but you just want to be able to make shots and be ready to answer back if they hand if they ended up scoring so i'm sure we're going to have a good one here see what halftime adjustments each team made ladies and gentlemen bcsc and columbus regional hospital have formed a community partnership provide highly skilled professional athletic training services to the students at columbus east on science helping keeping in the game and on the field is mckinsey hurts and michaela dilley thank you mckenzie and michaela and there you hear our trainers i don't think they get enough credit as they deserve i will truly miss them once i leave here at east you would be surprised how much time we spend in there as athletes i'm sure they will miss us as well as time is back on the clock here olympian basketball they will be going left to right and the falcons will be going right to left here as murphy will take the ball out for the olympians one thing i like to say about the trainers real quick though i never luckily i was never really truly injured in my high school football career i was a little bit at the end of my senior season so i wasn't able to visit them luckily but that's kind of a good thing but when i did they took care of me very well and luckily to have them as trainers here at east let's see if the olympians can get something early back door cut by tyler boyer and he's on the board here something we talked about getting them guys going tyler boyer tied for second in the conference with 18.3 points and jacob pierce finds him on the back door and a quick timeout taken by perry meridian zach why do you think that timeout was taken obviously he did not like what he saw coming out i think maybe a little bit too quick but perry mourinho coach obviously not very happy he did not like what he saw coming out and an easy layup for the olympians to start and that's exactly what they needed with 7 32 on the clock kerry meridian's coach uh we heard him earlier his voice sounded very hoarse he uh he said he just sounded like he's been yelling and screaming a lot and he had a hard time speaking so obviously maybe he might need a little help from his assistant coaches to get his point across how many times do you think that's happened to good old bob gaddis trying to call a place from the sideline and next thing you know you hear coach martin yelling because he's been yelling too much that definitely happened many times but that's why they had signal callers like you were my senior year you were the play caller to get the signals in and that kind of saves coach gaddis's voice a little bit has a strong block there by boyer and they get it back in another miss can the olympians get a rebound and second chance points once again has been the key to every ball game i think we've called so far it's just been the story of the east olympians all year not able to get rebounds and boyer tries to get his fifth point in the stack column but did not get the three-point basket to fall back to a 10-point ball game and taylor misses it and a strong rebound there by daniel murphy zach when you're not as tall as the teams you play how important is it to put your your butt i should say right into the guts of the defender it was a good shot by reekers right there but as far as we've been as much as we've been announcing the olympians all year i don't think there's been one over the back call all season we're usually smaller than the teams that we play when that means you got to box out and i don't think there's been one over the back haul all year and that's due to lack of boxing out on the bigger players as yes you mentioned will reekers with the big three that gives him five will reekers is shooting it very well 44 beyond the three-point line and that gives taylor his third here early i don't believe that was on taylor i think it was a legal screen on 42 but i like what i saw from ben major here on the defensive end he was sticking tight to taylor not allowing him to get the ball and then he was the one who got clipped off that illegal screen great defense from ben major as you were right number 42 noah excuse me patrick scott picks up his second and another three-point basket by ben mazur the senior is stepping up big time eight points two threes here in the ball game down to a full point game here he's been a great player here tonight for the olympians definitely a start so far for them he's been great offensively and has been really about as good as you can be on the butler commit taylor defensively wise i wonder when coach city told him hey we're going to put you on a jaden taylor i bet he was ready to go for that match up here tonight and he's proven himself here as well as taylor has it here at the free-throw line passes it out to mcdonald a pick and roll and do not take it and mcdonald's gonna get it and great defense so far by the olympians it always seems like they come out in the first quarter and the third quarter they have some good defense and they just lose focus a little bit and lose track of that good defense that they play and a three is on its way by number fourteen mason cacero his first points of the night and that comes at a big time if you're a falcons fan and ben mage is going to try another three up and good i've been major with three points a little bit of a heat check but he got it to go ben's on fire right now that's his third three-pointer here 11 points first olympian in double figures here tonight and ben major's only average 7.2 points here so i'm sure he's feeling great here tonight to get over his average part of that's been part of that's been due to the injury i think his foot was bothering him and that's why he missed about a week or so but he i think he's definitely back fully healthy and that at that point total will definitely go up and that one's off the mark and rebounded by daniel murphy definitely momentum here going to the olympians and a blocking foul and one up in good it's tyler boyer and he'll be at the line 4-1 this has been some great basketball from the olympians coming out of half coach definitely he probably got into them and they have responded well coming out of the half break [Music] tyler boyer shooting in solid 81 percent at the free throw line he is 13 for 16 on the season so here we go let's see if he can converts here and it is up and no good hate to see that one but two point ball game coming up on 405 here in the third quarter as mason caruso picks up the foul down on the other end to give boyer the and one but could not convert on the free throw as they switch off maybe a matchup you want but they switch it back here ben major has done a great job poked it loose and he gets down on the floor and great hustle by the olympians and stolen by daniel murphy but throws that one away and then we picked up a foul but great hustle there by the olympians that's awesome to see the crowd definitely it got a little quiet and they got right back up they knew what they just saw lots of clapping from the crowd that's good stuff and the olympians just didn't turn out for him as ben major will pick up his second foul and he gets a cheering ovation then majors come red hots here in the second half i'm sure coach city will love to get him back on the court as soon as he can see if silva will be able to recapture some of that defensive prowess majors had tonight looks like reekers will go to guarding taylor greeks has been pretty solid on mcdonald here tonight as well about as good as you can be and taylor spins and off the mark and thought about an over the back call there but off the mark but off the hands of the falcons and the olympians could take a chance here to take the lead or to tie the ball game up with 3 18 remaining here in the third quarter taylor was asking for a foul the other end trying to use his star power to get a foul then therefore he wasn't having any of it and pierce has it still scoreless here tonight i'm sure he's looking to turn that around and murphy looks down low but gives it back to silva silva has three three pointers and he gets to the baseline tips but gets it out to reakers and forces a pass but keeps it alive and rieker's little floater is up and short and rebounded by number 44 noah pedalington and mcdonald's gonna pass it up wide open is number 50 john joyce his first points of the night assist comes from mcdonald as that one is tipton way out of bounds olympian basketball with 2 38 remaining here taylor drew lots of defenders on that transition break pierce just lost his way and didn't see the patrick mahomes here behind him good old patrick mahomes he's going to love watching some football this weekend as he and the chiefs get the first run by and daniel murphy takes that one up and good daniel murphy gets on the board here in the second half his first points of the night he is third in the conference and scoring with 13.1 points per game let's see if that can be a spark for daniel murphy he did a great job of avoiding the potential charge as well he kind of flew by him to the side and laid it up with his right whatever coach shitty said at halftime must be working as daniel murphy gets a hand on that one but couldn't keep couldn't get it and a great move there by number 44 and a jump ball great job there by the olympians and daniel murphy possession arrow goes to the falcons but a great job and awareness there by daniel murphy that's grace bergman checks in olympians caught a break right there an easy layup miss on a great pump fake and they were luckily able to get a jump off the rebound as taylor has it chris bergman's going to have to be ready to play here with 140 on the clock and chris is going to have a big task of his hands that is a great pass down low to john joyce his four points here tonight and they both come off the easy layups on the right side that's spin and tyler boyer's shot is off the mark and a strong rebound by joyce and mcdonald's looking to push the ball gives it to the corner for a three that is mason cacero his second three-point basket and it comes at a big time if you're a falcons fan olympians need to to realize what's going on quick perry meridian scored five quick points gotta get gotta refocus here to end this quarter out strong as pierce has it looks at a screen taken by boyer and silva looked at a long three kind of a good idea and murphy has it in the corner underneath the minutes here 46 seconds on the clock let's see if the olympians can cut into this league going into the fourth quarter as chris has it the ball and dribbles it around 36 seconds on the clock 28 35 is our score and here we go folks can the olympians get the shot off see what they have drawn up here i think this is a match-up that the olympians need to do 31 versus 44 i think 31 has the advantage at that point the olympians did score with little bit of time left i think here in the first quarter but mcdonald was able to beat the buzzer with a three-point basket and across court to pierce with four seconds he's going to drive in between his legs gets inside and spins with zero time on the clock couldn't get it off and great defense there by the falcons in the quarter be 28 35 going into the fourth score just lost track of time didn't get shot off quick enough and once again our columbus east varsity cheerleaders [Music] okay so zach i noticed once they took number 11 out ben major kind of the whole third quarter kind of switched in favor of the falcons yeah i think so i don't know why really ben came out he was really the offense and defensive uh identity of the olympian so far tonight offense they just want to get a quick breather but sometimes i think you just have to live with sticking a guy out for there for a while says he's back out to start the fourth quarter let's see if he can stay on the same track he is on right now and it looks like they definitely talked about stopping number 11 as they picked the defensive pressure up and a little strong on the pass there by chris bergman 747 on the clock let's see if the olympians can get some stops as they're going to keep chris bergman on taylor and move ben major to mcdonald as mason has the ball and taylor has it taylor has not scored here in the second half so well rounded for the olympians on the defensive end to keep him scoreless as he had 18 first half points and let's see if they can get something going so far so good for the olympians and they switch it get daniel murphy on taylor might be a matchup they want to take and the olympians switch back as joyce has the ball who has four points so far here in tonight's contest and they've came off the easy lay-ups and some wide open shots and he's going to take his first shot in off the mark and i believe that is his first three-point basket missed and silva sadly goes off the foot and out of bounds perry meridian basketball prayer meridian looked to be in no hurry whatsoever on the other possession they were just taking their time running their offense looking for a good shot coach prepare meridian not too happy with taylor telling him that that was probably not the best shot to take you just hope as a player once they do commit to a big time school they're still coachable it looks like taylor's doing that here tonight as a great fake to go back door and he cuts it back and plants his foot and almost a turnover taylor gets it and good gives him 20 points on the knights his first points here in the second half that was one of those situations where it's like look what i found he just kind of came up with the tip ball and was able to put it in for two as a quick three bear there by tyler boyer and taylor spins back loses his feet stolen by bergman might need to slow it down here but he's going to take it himself and draw the foul and christ bergman will go to the line 4-2 that was on 14 and mason casserole looks like reekers is going to check in after the shot wondering whom he wonder if he's going to come in for silva and chris's first free throw is no good looks like reekers will come in for bergman and the second one is good chris bergman in the scoring column with 5 55 remaining here kind of a smaller lineup once again for the olympians we haven't seen i don't think bartholomew any in the second half just once again i think it's just a matter of just not a very good matchup for bartholomew tonight as taylor's picked up by murphy number 10 guarded by number 10 and a great cross over there as mason has it and he's going to dribble to his left and the right wing wide open is john joyce and he gets it up and good once again an easy layup for joyce and he has six points here tonight and back to a 10-point ball game let's see if the olympians can get something going here they need to get something going here fast and a back door is no to tyler boyer but reekers 3 is off and tyler boy offensive rebound and he gets that one to fall tyler boyer with six points rare offensive rebound for the olympians they're able to capitalize on it looks like once again a mismatch there inside but blocked oh don't know about that call there's zach maybe the body got involved i think he may have hit ball but i think he may have also hit the back of his hand going up hard to tell from where we're sitting i think reekers was there too late to help sidewise and didn't help that he got up in the air anyways you don't really want to jump jump up when you're like that in order that could have been an easy foul call john joyce is goes two for two gives him eight points he's done great job scoring here tonight for the falcons coming up on 4 40 here in the fourth quarter and daniel murphy will dribble around and pass it to reakers silva fakes the handoff and finally hands it off to major and boyer's garter by taylor and murphy steps into a three and short and a long rebound goes to murphy can silva get something and goes to the hands of silva and another turnover by the olympians with four minutes coming up on the game clock just once again some good looks the olympians have got tonight they've not been able to get any to go and a strong take by taylor could not get that shot to fall but he does draw the foul ben major picks up his third number a rare look there by the falcons they think taylor can make both of them here they have nobody down on their spots they're on the free-throw line you're just wanting to make sure the olympians get no free easy points as he goes two for two there gives him 22 points once again he's averaging 24 points and a great move there by rieker's up and under and that bucket is good gives rieker seven points on the knights put number 15 a little bit of a little bit of a twister there he kind of faked one way went back the other and got the easy layup to go i'm telling you what for ben major to be out for a few games and playing somewhat in the north game and coming into starting he does not look out of shape at all no sometimes that's a little bit of concern conditioning is obviously a little bit different wise sometimes you're inside compared to football and it's a little bit of a different playing style game but ben does not look out of shape at all and he's had the big burden of guarding taylor and mcdonald tonight and a late call there by the ref and gina murphy tried to do his bread and butter taking a charge in it goes against him on that one probably a little bit of flop by murphy there and taylor is at the line gets that one to fall and we will have jacob pierce check in for ben silva so the starting five is back out on the courts most likely maybe to end the fourth quarter and taylor's nothing but nets on both of those free throws gives him 24 right at his game average olympian's got to get something quick they're running out of time as reekers has the ball and gives it into the corner to murphy and gets him up and under and did not get that shot to fall and picks up his third team fouls olympians five meridian three 303 remaining here the olympians are going to go what they press and taylor's just gonna clear everybody out and he's gonna do it himself and he passes it to mason on the left should say volleyball line we might see some stalling here by the falcons i believe the falcons if i heard the horse coach a little bit i think they said four corners which means they're just gonna put what it says four people in a corner one in the middle and just try and try and stretch this game out reekers gets a hand inside but couldn't get it loose with 2 25 coming up on the game clock and this might what we might be seeing the rest of the game or a foul there so reekers picks up a foul and one more team foul will give the falcons the bonus will reekers picks up his first mcdonald will take the ball out looks like they're going to draw some help side daniel murphy tried to try to take the charge there and a great hustle play by tyler boyer he threw that one behind his back and pierced 4-3 off the mark and it's just not been pierce's nice hate to say it but almost every nba player and college player has nights like these and it just happens to be jacob pierce's night no really from the three-point line hasn't really been anybody's night other than ben major so far here timeout taken by perry meridian with 158 remaining and then we'll have our columbus's cheerleaders come back out again zach you mentioned the olympians start off good in the second half and they just cannot finish the ball game they had the momentum most likely going into the fourth quarter and then lost it so what's your take on this fourth quarter well i feel like the olympians just try and stick to what's been working and the other team adjusts to what's been going on they you know take a look the assistant coaches talk and they figure out hey this worked too well and this didn't work too well so i think the olympia's just do what they do and they don't really make that many adjustments and i think that's on a little bit of the coaching staff as well with 158 remaining 12 point ball game team fouls once again olympian six meridian three one more foul by the olympians will give the falcons the bonus at a 12 point ball game zach do you most likely foul to try to inch back into or you just let the game play out i think you at least try i mean you maybe foul one or two maybe three times just to see what happens maybe if they miss and you get a quick three but after that i think if nothing's prevailing i think you just kind of let this game take its toll and they're going to break the press there and their slot receiver shows out there as he went one way and went back together and broke free and taylor uses his body and major will pick up the foul i think that will be his fifth or fourth foul his fourth foul and puts taylor at the line for two now we mentioned that mcdonald for perry meridian plays football do we know what class per meridian is because i do not know myself i believe they were 6a 6a i think they're in the mid conference and i believe don't mark my words on this one but i believe their football season record was not the best if you're a pair meridian fan and taylor goes two for two once again at the line i'm sure they definitely play in a in a very tough conference with lots of indianapolis schools and great cuts and a great pass there gives tyler boyer eight points on the night and they get it into taylor and he's just gonna sew long and fast and he breaks the press with ease and jacob pierce will pick up his i think wanna say first or second foul this first once again taylor is at the line for the one-on-one he's looking at 28 points he's gonna look at 30 points here that's quite a bit of points scored for one person in high school basketball zack 30 points yeah very impressive that's why he's gonna be going to butler and two on two fast break and he will draw the foul and will be back at the line him in the free-throw line are becoming best friends here in the fourth quarter yeah that's evident he's going to be taking the fifth and sixth free throws in a row he's looking at 30 points there's 29 and it looks like our jv team will check in as our jv team lost a hard-fought game as well 32-45 really not some color changes for jade and taylor as i mean butler's kind of blue the bluish as they're wearing here tonight so wardrobe wise won't have to buy too many extra clothes with blue on them uh they'll they'll definitely provide uh oh for sure that's the nice part about going d1 is you get all the nice accessories and clothing and that's all she wrote for taylor in the knights with 30 points six points above his points average on the game let's see what the jv players can do here zach we've all done it we've all been jv players and when you get in the varsity matchup what is what does that feel like for you well it's good experience your experience as well and you know you're you'll be able to see what your team might look like in the future against the jv team you just played in a varsity matchup kind of as coleman gets the two-point baskets to fall let's see if they're gonna hold it for one last shot or just hold it to dribble the timeout here and a three-point shot is taken and nothing but nets that is number 30 connor mcnabb and can coleman get another shot to fall he kicks it out to morvak he fires up a three and off the mark and rebounded by lloyd and that shot is off the mark and rebounded and out of bounds falcons basketball the jb team did pick up a win over their crosstown rival one point ballgame it was a crazy game to call came down to one last second shot by north and couldn't get it to fall so this will be all she wrote here tonight in the orange pits the olympians are going to still be a one-win team here tonight and per meridian will go five and three on the season zach what was your take on the overall game here tonight well for east they just missed some good opportunities when the three-point line weren't able to connect and they had some pretty good defense ahead of them too and it was just the wheels fell off they just kind of lost their way defensively taylor kind of took over and that spelled doom for the olympians here tonight scoring wise for the olympians daniel murphy senior comes in averaging 13.2 points but only has two points on the night but i think he did other areas in the game good taking charges and everything like that but sadly only two points for daniel murphy tonight ben silva with six ben major with an all-around game defensively offensively comes away with 11.

it's no good just a little short there by lane that's a shot he can normally hit love to see him take it phillips on the attack he gets inside that shot's going to be blocked away by lane sparks you know jason that previous uh possession you'd one thing you don't want when you're trying to chase graham is to guard for about a minute and a half and then just lose him off a simple inner and then replace back to himself that looks like a shot that he's going to be knocking down consistently they got caught ball watching the ball got entered into the post and it looked like we had a good good solid post defense there by walters but kai just got caught watching the ball a little bit and you have to just anytime you're guarding a shooter like that for for conorsville you've got to be aware all of the time more of where your man is i know it kind of goes against the norm where you say you always want to be aware of the ball and the man but if you're guarding the other team's best shooter and the guy they seem to be setting up you want to be sure that you don't lose track of him as graham misses a little little 10-footer there but conorsville controls the offensive rebound and in typical conorsville fashion here we talk patience they have an 8-5 lead with just under 40 seconds to go they're going to be satisfied here to get the last shot because they also control the possession at the end of the quarter and and you know to get that 8-5 lead graham got that layup that's what nice job there are pressuring by sparks he comes away with the steal his euro step is no good keeps it alive it's going to be out of bounds on sparks but one thing i was getting to is you have to stay away from live ball turnovers there are difference between dead ball turnover which that wasn't from lane but it went out of bounds made them inbound the basketball if you're going to give connorsville live ball turnover layups and they build that lead to 8 10 12 to 5.

will reekers with seven points and tyler boyer ends the night with eight points chris bergman adds in a point as well so not the best scoring wise for the olympians i'm sure their scoring average will drop down once again but that's when you go in and practice and look at film there zach what was your take on the olympian scoring wise offensively here tonight well they had some good looks they just weren't able to convert that scoring average just after the for good start to start the season it's obviously it's going to keep going down and down if they don't figure out the offensive end quickly for prayer meridian falcons taylor ends the night with 30 points mcdonald ends the night with five mason corso drops two threes so gives him six on the evening conor mcnabb gets three points noah peddlington gets four and john joyce ends the night with eight points a well around offensive game there for the falcons yes for sure taylor obviously the big piece tonight i think mcdonald obviously provided a little bit of relief to taylor but definitely all around good offensive game preparing mourinho and it kind of exploited the east olympians defense they were to get some rebounds and that's been a problem for east all years rebounding so the olympians will get the weekend to rest and monday and they will be back in action on the road taking on the shelbyville bears on tuesday the 12th tip off at 7 30 but also on tuesday your girls basketball team will be home taking on bedford and that matchup is huge as both teams are undefeated in conference and that game will put whoever wins that game in first place so zach is a big game and you and i will be calling that one here so i'm sure coach brown and the ladies are ready to go well sadly that's all we have here tonight we want to thank cayden behind me who's doing camera and from zach and myself malachi parks we want you to have a great rest your evening and enjoy the weekend and we will see you guys tuesday nights here in the orange pits at 7 30.

that's when they're really going to take the air out of the basketball 15 seconds to go here phillips controls for the spartans who have an 8-5 lead over our pirates a little 1-4 low action going to run a high ball screen for billups walters switches out on him three-point attempt no good that's the end of the first quarter there with the score connorsville eight pirates five josh just like we expected coming in very slow tempo and actually really good patience on both ends by both teams and and you know it's a testament i think to greensburg's patients because we're not i'm not saying we're not the most patient team but we don't play the most patient style of offense shots aren't falling but we're not letting taking shots not falling come back down on defense and giving up open looks yes graham does have all eight points he does have two open looks here that he's knocked down but we're still playing 45-50 seconds of really really good defense we're getting good looks that we consistently hit if we continue to do that we're gonna start knocking some of those down and when you get connersville in trouble is when you get that lead up to six eight points and make them hurry that's not something that they excel at that's exactly right and you know you said that graham has all eight points actually we should say that the score is gram eight sparks five and the pirates and spartans are tied at zero um and i think you know a lot of times it's not that the pirates are impatient i don't think it's that because they are very willing to run good offense and work for great shots but they know they're at their best when they can pick up the pace in transition and that can't happen in theory if if conorsville is running 45 50 seconds a clock each time you feel like that next possession is so valuable you almost throttle back yourself because you're fearful of turning the basketball over and that's where they can wear on you because they run 45 50 seconds off a clock and get a bucket then you go down and miss a quick one they run another 45 seconds off the clock you've just played two or two minutes of defense and 10 seconds of offense nice job there brendan stanley doing a great job of battling in the post he is able to draw a charge on martin martin got that chicken wing out there pushed off and that was out there where not even the guys in stripes could miss it and you know connorsville is trying to get that high-low action with their two big guys stanley and walters have done a great job battling inside and not giving them easy position walter's out top he's going to kick back to right wing to cummer comer surveys he's going to drive into lane nice attack there by colin cummer his first two of the game that makes the score eight to seven pirates still trailed by one but great patience and then another great attack there by cummer it was just a really good hesitation move he kind of lawled his defender to sleep taking one dribble and retreating and then attacking and scoring at the rim really good hesitation move phillips steps into a three his three-point attempt is no good but offensive rebounded on the play there first time into the game now by 42 james williams his rebound attempt is blocked out of bounds by brendan stanley connorsville will take it out of bounds under their own basket stolen on the play by sparks tipped away from behind turned over right back to the spartans you could hear not only the bench but the entire connersville crowd yelling at martin to get rid of the ball and get it to a guard he kicked it back out to billows they reset their offense billups with it now just inside top of the key swung back out top here to barron billups with it to the high post air ball stepped out of bounds even though he corralled it baron steps out of bounds pirates take control 6 31 to go here in the first half pirates still trail eight to seven as sparks will bring it across for the pirates i did nothing on that possession except watch walters and williams battle down low and that is a battle that was a battle going on down there sparks drives kicks to dyer outside the walter or to stanley stanley to walters now back to dyer handoff action to walters in the corner his three attempt is no good rebound on the play by williams of connersville billups will bring it across the timeline looks to set the offense handoff with graham on the right wing had graham running the baseline early now they've put billups down as their baseline runner graham with another three his three-point attempt is no good laying with the rebound he's going to come down attack and transition get to the rim oh no that might be the worst charge i have seen called this season and we watched the iu game last night that was beyond questionable that lane is into his shot and the defender jumps with him and yet the charge is called i think i'm going to have to vehemently disagree with that call that wasn't even sparks extending his right arm or anything that was a guy jumping into lane lane going through i can't even describe how bad that was jason coach holdsworth is a better man than i because he stayed very calm and subdued on the sideline he must be channeling some inner zen power that he's found nice high low look there by connorsville graham hits williams who hits his layup and then is fouled on the play there by walters he will go to the free throw line for the and one and try to give the spartans a four point lead here as they extend their lead to 10 to seven looking to make it 11-7 the best thing about gtv i can be the biggest homer in the uh in the world and i have to say those last two calls were just unquestionably bad just i mean williams completes the old-fashioned three-point play conorsville with the lead now 11-7 cummer attacks off the right wing kicks out top to dire over to walters to dyer swings left to comer colin with a nice attack that somehow is a foul which it was but yet the last one was called on the pirates i'm i'm very curious about this but i digress we need to move on that foul is going to be called on williams dyer will look to trigger it in for the pirates he enters over the top to cummer over to the wing to dyer dyer's three is up in and out no good kept alive on the play conorsville is going to come away with it i mean that was all the way in and out there's not much you can do if you're kai on that one that was a that was a good look and he'll knock those down yeah those are shots that he needs to take those are good looks on our offense kai's a good shooter you want him shooting those looks over to graham for the spartans on the wing over to bodwell up top he swings right to spark sparks out top the bodwell back to graham on the left wing sparks for three his three-point attempt is no good dyer controls the rebound for the pirates he's going to race it up the floor to sparks sparks looking to attack backs it back out to walters walters to dyer over to walters again he attacks lane has it on the left baseline swings out top to stanley over to dyer good patience being shown here by the pirates sparks has it now at the top of the key nice curl there by dakota to shake the defense loose that opens things up for lane lane looks to attack nothing there nice find into stanley it's going to be knocked away but last touch by the spartans defensively i i don't want to complain about the referees but they're going to have to get control because it's getting extremely physical down low and it's it's not going to get pretty because it's that physical down low nice nice find there by dyer but walters unable to finish at the rim pirates still trail here 3 40 to go in the first half they trail 11-7 and yes i said in the first half not the first quarter that's what we said this could be a grinded out game and we have a grand total of 18 points between the two teams it's not been bad offense it's been good defense on both sides here phillips comes up top for the spartans showing their trademark patience tipped away and stolen there tipped away by sparks stolen by cummer cummer's going to attack another one we're going to put this as 1a as the worst charge i have seen called in high school basketball this year at no time does it say in the rules that a defensive player can be back pedaling and it's a charge again cummer did not lower his shoulder he beat his man to that spot his guy was he was guarding the guarding him just fell down i can't even talk these calls are so bad if i was sitting across the way from where i'm at right now i might be ejected yeah like you said thank goodness that this has greensburg in the name of the station because we are allowed to be homers but i don't even know if a non-homer would say those were good calls but back to basketball action here we can complain all night that's not going to make for an interesting broadcast conorsville controls has it he's going to attack the middle he kicks over to the left baseline that's number 30.

caleb sparks from the short corner spartans extend their lead 13-7 as sparks looks to attack inside to stanley he's going to be fouled on the play that foul is going to be called on the floor pirates will control underneath 2 18 to go pirates trail 13-7 and i know we only have seven points but we are getting good looks at the rim we're getting good open shots shots that we consistently hit um you know we just have to keep working for three his three-point attempt is no good rebound controlled there by sparks of the spartans as phillips brings it across for connersville over to graham on the right wing kicks it over to sparks of connorsville good job by laying there reading that back screen i i really like this action though the the patience but also this back screen action and the baseline runner that connorsville is is running now that just can't happen simple diagonal screen from out of bounds pirates are caught unaware they now trail 15 to 7 with 140 to go in the first half lane from about six feet in and out seems to be a lid on the basket right now pirates still trail 15 to 7 130 to go in the first half phillips controls he swings over to the left now back up top to graham over on the left wing to billups phillips is going to drive the left baseline kicks back out top controlled on the left wing there by martin now to myers back out top to phillips over to myers meyers looking in he's trying to feed it inside to martin kicks to the corner good extra pass there three second call gonna be made here again really good defense uh by greensburg and and you know they're not letting like you said the lid on the basket affect what they're doing on this end they have given up a couple easy layups but for the most part they played a lot of defense and they played a lot of really good defense too pirates look to get things headed in the right direction here heading into halftime 35 seconds to go they trail 15-7 pirates know that they do control the arrow at the end of the first half they're going to be satisfied here to work for a last shot walters controls back out top to dire now over to cummer cummer attacks from the left he's going to kick to walters on the right wing his three-point attempt is good phillips controls now for the spartans clocks ticking down he gets all the way to the rim it's no good that's the end of the first half with the score connersville 15.

your pirates 10. we will join you again at the start of the second half [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] welcome back everybody to greensburg high school our pirates trail here at halftime 15 to 10. josh we got exactly what we expected out of connorsville we got great patience out of the pirates i think the only thing that didn't happen that we expect is this is a pirates team that shoots the ball very well getting the looks that they want just happened to be one of those hats they weren't able to find the bottom of the net and and you know i think that three at the end of the half by walters could be what sparks us in the second half there's a big difference between five point deficit and eight point deficit at halftime plus we get the ball coming out to start the second half i think we're hopefully getting some easy layups we are staying patient defensively we're not gambling trying to make our own offense so they're doing really good things we're even getting really good looks that we consistently hit so you know i know coach holdsworth is going to say keep doing what you're doing stay solid defensively make them earn everything they get offensively and we get a couple baskets here go up four six eight points make them rush uh hopefully that lead goes up to 10 12.
