at nine o'clock in the morning on a saturday um we called this special action meeting um because uh hank said he wanted to address the board he had some thoughts about potentially changing the metric and because we've had discussion about perhaps meeting weekly as needed um i just didn't want to let it go an additional week before we came to a point that we were going to make a decision so thank you all for being so flexible with your schedules since monday is a federal holiday so yeah we could not meet monday because it's federal holiday so hank did you have anything to say before we open up the reception of visitors uh no let's start with the reception of visitors okay we're going to go to the reception of visitors and we're going to start with the um dga but this is an opportunity for audience members to address the board on any topic pertaining to community high school district 99 comments will be limited to three minutes to provide all visitors an equal opportunity to address the board if you need more time submit your thoughts and writing to mrs snyder the board secretary visitors addressing the board need to come to the microphone and state their full name the proceedings are being taped recorded for the for the purpose of producing accurate meeting minutes and we are live streaming uh i reserve the right to modify these protocols of circumstances warrant and we appreciate audience observation of these um protocols right hopefully you guys can see and hear me okay good morning my name is valerie hardy and i'm the president of the downers grove education association i'm also a teacher at south a member of the donors group community and i have a child who is a freshman at downers grove north in the hybrid model thank you for the opportunity to see here today cgea as an organization has consistently supported a return to in-person learning so long as it is safe for all district 99 students staff administration and the surrounding community for the past 10 months dga and its members have had to put our trust in the district 99 board of education and administration in consultation with health officials with decisions regarding when it is safe for students and staff to attend school in person as we embark on second semester dga members appreciated the queer metrics that dr feely and the board set forth even if some of our members did not necessarily agree with them or the integrity of them while there are some apprehension amongst our members about whether these metrics would be applied as outlined there was a significant sigh of relief and increased faith when we saw that the first two weeks of the semester played out in accordance with the designated metrics the sense of trust that this board and administration engendered by presenting a rationale for and sticking to these metrics that they set fourth to start the semester was immeasurable the trust that was placed was contingent on our understanding that our district's leadership advocacy and clear was advocacy for clear and consistent metrics as originally presented was grounded in science and guidance from the health department earlier this week dr thiele at the board workshop meeting further reinforced his commitment to these metrics stating quote if i would have felt like we could set it at 10 and that we could have kept kids safe based on what we know now i would have brought the board 10 but i didn't because mine is where i feel confident where our administration feels confident that we can keep kids safe at school end quote he further explained that nothing has yet changed in our understanding of how this works for me to recommend to the board that we expand beyond nine percent that could change in the coming weeks if we are able to come back and learn more or if guidance changes from health agencies end quote in reality the coming weeks that dr thiele was referring to seemed to have equated to just three days the time between the january 11th board meeting and the circulation of the proposed change to the previously established metrics as steered as shared with staff and the community on january 14th proposing a new set of metrics less than two weeks into the second semester is both deflating and infuriating the call for the vote at this time and supporting these changes now undermines the trust that the eta membership has placed in administration and the board to follow through with their own policies in a consistent manner we recognize as outlined at the most recent board meeting the metrics can move up or down depending on new information including experiences teaching in a hybrid environment new research including on the mutated form of the virus new guidelines vaccine distribution and increased testing based upon the information available to us at this time the only factor that we're aware of that could have changed over the past few days is the first one our experiences in hybrid however making conclusions about safely returning to the building based on the data from the week of january 4th is flawed and inadvisable many students who selected hybrid and were thoughts expected to be in the building the first week of the semester were not present for some or all of that week there is simply not enough data from the four days with students with fewer students in attendance than anticipated to attend in person going forward not to mention is the first week under our expanded hybrid model that doubles the unique groups of students in the building each day to say that district 99 can safely operate under the initial metrics much less under an even higher positive positivity rate threshold furthermore the extent to which there is transmission of the virus within the building cannot even be known with fidelity at this time as we are just eight days out from our last in-person class and according to the cdc coven 19 can remain dormant for two to 14 days there appears to be no new information to justify changing metrics other than the sheer desire to change them this further erodes our ability to trust a policy that changes its whim of its creators and negates the predictability that having stapled that stable metrics provides also while using the most current metrics available seems to make a lot of sense in determining the next week's educational model there are many practical implications of using monday's 14 day rolling average metrics instead of the previously committed to friday cutoff to determine our remote versus hybrid status for the subsequent week though many teachers will monitor the metrics prior to monday to see where they are trending if the numbers are close to the threshold teachers as well as students from their families will not find out until late monday afternoon as to the final decision for the week we have several concerns with this process first the northwestern dashboard has been inconsistent in posting its daily metrics so there's a good chance that the final metrics will not be available on monday afternoon therefore not only is there a concern about waiting until monday afternoon we are unclear on what will happen if these metrics are not available what figures will the district use in such cases as teachers we pride ourselves on being prepared to teach our students at this time we are required to have weekly plans ready and published to students by 8 o'clock each monday morning this is already a struggle when we are not notified until friday as the perform school will most likely take the next week we are now being asked to create a plan for monday morning without knowing for certain until monday afternoon whether students will be fully remote or hybrid it is quite difficult to provide students with informative plans for the week given the potential uncertainty of the model under which they will be learning this 11th hour notice is particularly problematic for a number of our instructional disciplines for example cte there are several teachers who need more lead time to assemble materials for their classes as just one example our culinary teachers struggle with providing food to their in-person and remote learners in a way that both allows every student to participate in class and also does not lead to wasted perishable food and money for science teachers whose curricula are heavily lab-based require advanced notice and time to prepare if teachers do not know if students would be in person until the night before a lab it's difficult to plan for at best planning a lab just in case that doesn't end up running would waste time chemicals and in many cases also money furthermore holding off on planning a lab for the second half of the week would regularly exclude half of our in-person students for physical education some of our pe teachers have expressed that their plans change drastically based on the mode of instruction that for remote teaching they use the same plan with everyone but with the hybrid model they have to come up with three differentiated plans one for the students in the room one for the students on the zoom that day and one for the permanently remote students so that the students are not simply repeating the same activities day in and day out and finally for fine arts there are several teachers whose specialized disciplines require them to structure their lessons differently under the hybrid model versus under the remote model and this requires extra notice to be able to appropriately distribute the unnecessary materials to carry out meaningful instructional activities with their students dga's leadership is left wondering how to sell these seemingly arbitrary shifts to our number to our members many of whom approached us with concern after receiving notice the proposed change in metrics we find the labs inconsistency of metrics and the manner in which the proposed change came about deeply problematic the fundamental problem we had with the motion on the table is a loss of trust in december we were asked to trust that the reason the district couldn't establish metrics during first semester was because of the lack of transparency and consistency from our health department and state and federal leadership during the december board meeting district leadership provided coded thoughts as to why it became possible to established metrics for second semester that are based on both cdc information and local community health statistics on january 11th those numbers were reinforced at the accurate numbers to confidently support the safety of all in our district now the board of education is proposing to change these metrics even though the parameters under which the current metrics were created have not changed there are too many variables at this time to shift the metrics especially when the advocacy for such a move is based on insufficient data cga fundamentally opposes the change as proposed and urges the board to vote against this action thank you thank you thank you sorry i just assumed thanks we have nobody else in the room that wishes to address the board we did receive 14 comments uh through the online form um and the responses are mixed in those 14 responses however they lean towards the recommendation to supporting the recommendation change the metrics all of those comments will be provided in full form to the board and will be made part of the official minutes and record thank you hank okay uh rod could you pull up the slide deck thank you all right um yeah val was an excellent opener for me because a lot of the questions that were raised in there are what i hope to address uh in this morning's meeting so you know over the course of this school year a baseline that i think that we need to establish with the community that might not be clear out there that i know is well well known amongst our teachers and our board and our administrative team is that the first responsibility of a school system is the safety of their students legally speaking we are responsible for student safety from what we always talk about as educators from portal to portal from when they first step foot outside of their door until they arrive back into their house at the end of the school day technically speaking or legally speaking it's called in local parents we are assuming the full role of a parent for the time that a student is with us and as a school leader and i know myself and the rest of the administrative team especially ed and janus all of us feel that we have a responsibility to be able to look any student in the eye and say you'll be safe with us the same with our staff and we expect to be able to look at and talk to any parent and say your kid your most precious thing in this world is going to be safe with us when you send them off to us that is the mindset that we have for 5 000 students across the district and we realized that each family each parent might have a different comfort level with covid and and where their comfort level would be to send everybody off to school but we as an administrative team also have to have a level where we can truthfully and honestly to any student to any staff member to any parent say you will be safe with us and that is the position that we have worked from all school year and as i continue to share as an administrative team we believe that that statement can be said when we design a system where covet is unlikely to spread when you're here at school and there's many factors here that play into this as we continue to point to those instructional programming what our our program is like in that hybrid model the guidelines and the strategies we have to keep people safe and the rate of community transmission those last two play together as we've discussed for the last several months that your ability to keep people safe is highly dependent on the rate of spread of kovid within your community they are not mutually exclusive from one another and then those two are greatly impacted by your instructional programming how often are you having kids mix at school how long are they there you know are they able to maintain the safety guidelines for the duration of the time that they're there and are you having them participate in activities that make it unlikely for covid to spread those are the factors that are playing in and at the start of all of this we had absolutely no experience in running school during covet nobody did so we were designing under the guidelines we received over the summer which then changed the week before school started and introduced this idea of community metrics playing into how things work and as i've shared with the board in the past the initial understanding that we had over the summer was follow these guidelines and everybody will be safe end of story but what we've learned since then is yes they're safe to a certain extent and as the level of the virus spreads in your community the less effective your safety measures are expected to be so what this meant was at the beginning as this was released to us and the dupage county health department started talking about how metrics would work and impact us we'll focus on positivity rate because that's the number of discussion within the community and and we've created that and i'll explain why that's the focus but the positivity rate from dupage county health department said we should start to really be concerned returning students under our old hybrid model around five percent and then we modified our our hybrid model so that there would be only one passing period per day per day and based on that modification and instructional programming matched up with the strategies and guidelines we then moved that positivity factor to eight percent and uh felt like we could keep students safe up to that eight percent threshold and we brought students back as we were in the sixes and while they were back in that hybrid model for those two weeks we rose up to that eight percent threshold what we did over over time was we applied what we had learned to modify those metrics and knowing our programming knowing what was going on and we ran two weeks of hybrid two weeks of half days we also ran two months of students and cohorts in our special ed cohorts as long as the metrics were under 12 we stayed out of tier three we ran those what we found our experience over those those periods of in-person learning either in the modified high or in the hybrid model or in our cohort models was that it our experience correlated with the rising positivity rates as the positivity rates rised or rose and we were in school we started to see illness spread in into our school whether that be it was really the number of students and staff that were out now that doesn't mean that they got it at school we don't believe they did but you know it did seem to indicate that the amount of illness present in our community and in our school community was rising as community rates were rising so at that point the positivity rate became a benchmark for us to to be kind of an early warning system for what we would expect would happen in our schools based on our experience it was a transparent and easy to find number it would help the community you know as val said follow the numbers throughout the week and know what direction we were headed in and in in december i came to the board and said based on our experience which i've just shared with you we feel that that number that is safe is nine percent and when asked in december by the board if that number would change before semester two we said no i said no there's nothing in our experience because kids wouldn't be back in an in-person model would lead to us having any more data or information or experience to modify that number between december 14th and the start of second semester and that is the number we used when we came back the first week and then we used going into the second week because we didn't have enough time to learn yet and to process from that first week when we met on monday i did share with the board that we didn't have any information yet to indicate that that number should change as val pointed back to however every week since this school year started our full administrative team meets every monday which we did monday before the board meeting and talked through what our experience was from the week before and that that first week back was very positive but as of monday we wouldn't have known the impact of any illness we had a chance to fully go back and talk to all of our teams and fully process that full week let's go back to that first full week of school and in that first full week of school we came back with numbers above nine percent um through by the end of that week we were over ten percent however uh as val indicated we did have uh students uh choose to either self quarantine or stay home that week and depending on the class period throughout the week we had a we had about 89 of students in attendance on average in any class period day throughout the week across the district so we factor you know you have to factor in the fact that we didn't have full attendance over that week and it took us a while to find what that real number was and to process that through all the data but we knew anecdotally from talking to our teachers and looking at our general attendance data that we didn't have all of our students in person that week however the amount of evidence we were able to gather over the course of that week is equivalent to our two weeks of being in the hybrid model since we had the equivalent equivalent number of hours of of class time available in that first week so if we're using the time in the hybrid model in the fall as a data point the time in that first week is equivalent to the amount of time in the fall therefore it's as valid now as it was then based on what we know now [Music] when we met this week we met with uh as i said our entire administrative team on monday and then as we have every week of the school year when we've had students in school uh ed janus um gina rob scott and various associate principals have met with us in further intensive like specific meetings to look at things like transportation or contact tracing or illness among staff and students we've discussed our safety measures and our ability to adhere to those things and every time we've had students in purp in person the next week we talked through how how did we do were we able to go through those things what happened this week was later in the week just like we have every week of the school year we met with those small teams and discuss those specifics were we able to found follow our safety measures has any illness tracked back and yes it's uh we're at seven to ten days at this point of a window of time up to this point as of friday we are not tracking any illness back to school and by the time we hit monday we would know if that was the case we have we were able to track illness within a 24-hour period for that week even though we doubled the number of students that were coming back to school that week um we did that by adding additional agency nurses and you'll see we're also adding additional support for that and over the course of that first week of school we had no issues with staffing over the course of the week the number rose above 10 and it was at 10.

and now you're going to look in your workbook so they're on page three um chart one you're going to go ahead and put the total number in the triangle diamond oval and square or rectangle that's there on on page three okay so as you can see here these are on a uh an access so we have ones that are high assertive low assertive sometimes people have a negative connotation with assertive um but it just means that somebody that is vocal somebody that is um finds it easier to communicate or to share their feelings um low assertive is somebody that does a lot more thinking and maybe not not as vocal or doesn't always say what's on their mind um they're kind of more in their head um and then we have um and so you see they're tells versus asks so um you can see that they'll tell you how it is and then they might ask and and couch kind of their their their question or their thinking in a question um and then we have high expressive or low expressive again displays emotion that you can very much tell you know how they're feeling and then controls emotion you can't always tell what's going on in terms of what they may be thinking about something so uh in in some our directive our direct folks are assertive and they're forward thinking thinking about the future our spirited folks are energetic and creative considerate tend to be thoughtful and supportive and systematics to send tend to be consistent and well organized so digging into each one of these styles a little bit more and i'm not asking anybody to say what their style is just yet um i would like what i will do though is at the end of each one of these i will um ask you don't have to worry about writing them down because um we're going to have a discussion about it later and we're going to be talking about the team ones as well so our direct style people their strengths are that they are good at focusing at the on the big picture so maybe they're going to be less likely to want to get into the the weeds or micromanage because they like to focus on the big picture and i apologize my dogs are barking um and i don't mean my feet believes that conflict can be constructive so these are people that you might think you're fighting somebody might think that they're fighting but they just think that they're having constructive conversation right they believe that conflict can be constructive um they are more likely to take risks um and they communicate assertively like so there's no you know questioning what it is that they think or or or want in terms of what they think that you should do going forward for our spirited style folks their strengths include a love of generating new ideas they're open to change so they're pretty flexible they recognize and praise the accomplishments of others so they're going to be like the cheerleader of the team in terms of yeah look at what we did and they have a lot of energy and enthusiasm they bring the energy our considerate styles tend to be more active listeners so they really listen to other people they are always willing to lend a hand when needed they encourage others to share their ideas and feelings they're more about making sure everybody else feels like they're they're being heard and they tend to mediate conflict within a team they're the peacemakers of the group our systematic style strengths include thinking critically and analytically so really digging into the data and trying to find the connections they have strong organizational skills high standards of performance so they're really dependable and they tend to pay attention to the details okay now let's talk about our trouble spots direct styles um can tend to be overly critical they may give feedback with little regards of the receiver's feelings again they're just getting to the point and not really thinking about how that lands and that can come off as aggressive or impatient so they are somebody that doesn't want to do a lot of talking they want to kind of talk a little bit and get it done so that could be impatient um spirited style trouble spots so sometimes they can be distracted or undisciplined meaning they lose focus or they they can't um they might not finish it a task which keeps them from maybe struggling to meet deadlines um sometimes their behavior can be disruptive meaning they may interrupt or bring up something that doesn't have to do with the current topic and so that can be disruptive to the conversation and sometimes they have difficulty sticking to the plan so if you create a plan and everybody's on the same page because they get distracted and they're one of those people like to generate ideas they may start working on another plan or think of a different way and so that can have difficulty sticking to the plan considerate styles um they don't express their opinions so they're kind of just go with what everybody else says and it's it's hard to know what they think and they don't um they don't express their opinions so that might lead to some resentment passive independent so they kind of just go with whoever they think probably they're going to make the least mad they want to go with that option trust too easily and also overly sensitive so maybe somebody that's not great at taking feedback or construction or that deals with disagreement very well are systematic trouble spots they can be perfectionists meaning they don't want to move anything forward until it's completely perfect which makes them resistant to change because they like the way it works it's not broken let's not fix it values data over personal relationships so sometimes they really want to focus on that quantitative data the numbers and less about what that means or the context they just want to get you know data values uh values data over personal relationship uh and then they can sometimes be rigid and inflexible meaning they thought about it so much they they're pretty sure this is the right way and that's they don't they don't can't be convinced otherwise because they thought about it and they know that this is the right way so that can you can see how all of those uh challenges of the different personalities can be difficult in a team right so now let's talk a little bit about styles and roles and this is all for your own thinking because we're going to do a little bit of reflection here at the end um so our styles are preferred behavior meaning that if left to your own devices that's what you naturally gravitate to right so we just talked about our styles roles are assigned responsibilities and so certain team member styles are favored for certain roles so if your natural inclination is this then these responsibilities are going to be a natural fit for you and this is good to cover because we need all of these roles on a team when you work on a team there's lots of different things that need to be to happen and so different roles need to be played this is going to help give us some insight into looking at what your natural personality is and what responsibilities on this team you may may be best suited for um it's also going to give us when we we go to talk a little bit about each other's styles it's going to give us some ideas of where our strengths and where our gaps are in this team meaning that if we have a whole lot of one style and they all want to do that role somebody's going to have to step up and do the other roles or they don't get done and you have an imbalanced team okay so task roles um there are task roles which are uh initiator they get the discussion started and they address difficult issues coordinator they organize people and projects evaluator they're going to ask the questions and measure progress and the fault the completer they follow through on the details so just real quick you can kind of take a guess at who which personality styles might go with that um so initiator is is most likely going to be what anybody want to take a guess direct someone who's direct yes so your direct people are going to be like all right let's get this started um and then coordinator organizes people and projects systemic yes stomach um uh spirited at um asks questions and measures that uh the progress um and then completer is that considerate person that focuses on the details so in addition to your task rules you have your maintenance roles so once you decide what needs to get done then how do you keep things going the gatekeeper they get people involved they make sure that everybody on the team feels like they're part of the team you have the harmonizer who mediates between conflicting parties the energizer keeps spirits and motivation high and the encourager um who is the person that recognizes and praises good performance so if you look on page nine of the workbook you can see a summation of what's going on there um and you see that under direct you have the communication and i'm just gonna read a few of these because i know that they're not in that the book and for the audience so under communication under direct a direct person freely shares opinions and is candid they get to the point quickly and concisely and they ask tough questions and raise difficult issues their work preference is that they're most comfortable in a setting setting individual and team objectives they like to work independently and they move from one task to another with speed and confidence and they are best suited to the roles of initiator and evaluator our spirited folks enjoy socializing before taking care of business they are energetic and enthusiastic and they are uh persuasive and engaging meaning they're people people um they excel at the creative process they're good at multitasking and they prefer to solve problems through group discussion they are good at the energizer and encourage your roles our considerate folks enjoy listening to others building trust they use supportive body language eye contact head nodding uh when the in their communication style and their work preference is that they prefer flexible and collaborative work environments and they're comfortable taking responsibility for the less high profile tasks so they they are comfortable doing that the details or the things that don't seem as quote unquote fun to the other folks and they're the gatekeeper and the harmonizer type roles and then in systematic their communication style is conversations are precise and to the point they take care of business before socializing they prefer to discuss facts over feelings in their work preferences they are well organized they successfully meet deadlines and they work consistently and accurately but prefer to focus one task at a time so they don't like to do the multitasking and they are in the roles that are good well suited for them are coordinator and completer so now i'm going to invite you all to take i'm going to give you about five to ten minutes i'll kind of check in with you but this is uh there's several questions on pages 10 and 11 of the workbook um where you're asked to reflect on your own style and remember you can go back to the other pages to look again at the roles and then the the um strengths and trouble spots are on page six and seven and so we want you to take some time or i want you to take some time to reflect and answer these questions what is your personal strength as a member of the team what is the greatest challenge you may face as a member of this team what can you improve to what can you do to improve your team member performance what are some of the roles that you think you might be able to take responsibility for in the future that might be a good match um and think about one other person on your team and how you can apply what you've learned just so far that might help you improve your relationship with them so i'm going to give you about 10 minutes to do this these are kind of difficult when we haven't even had a first meeting of january yet to know than two new board members you're muted nikki jill i agree i'm struggling with number three quite a bit i'm like um i have no idea i'm just trying to be general i think i know i'm like um number five is pretty rough i know a lot of us i guess i could because we're supposed to do it within the board right or can we go to the board and the administrator this is the community that is working today okay okay we can do administrators i went admin jill okay yeah because i'm like i could do amy but that's really the only person who's on here so it felt like i was picking jesus and you don't have to get into it um we number five yeah if you're not really here yet that's something that you can reflect on um always come back to this workbook and in fact we often tell people you know because we we've done this where people do this brand new and everybody's still in kumbaya right and some people stay in kumbaya and other people don't so when they start to not um we always tell them they can come back to here if you start having um like you're not seeing eye to eye with somebody on your team you can always come back to this and look at you know some ways that you can change your behavior but you can also when we get to the team section remind yourself of what their preferences are and think about a new way to approach um so you may not be in a spot right right now for that and that's that's okay just to give you some thoughts um in terms of in what ways can you improve your team member performance um this might be um where you talk a little bit about you know your trouble spots and and are some things that you think you might want to be aware of um just in general um when you were you're working with negro group but um i was going to give you just another minute that would have been 10 minutes um so let me just give you a minute or two more to finish up and then we're going to have some conversation okay 30 more seconds in the meantime who wants to take a stab at what mine are i actually have two pretty close ones um so who would like to guess what are my style are you spirited i am spirited that is one of them i would assume systematic i will tell you that i'm the opposite of the two that julie is so both rt you're perfectly balanced she has two and i have two are you systematic no that is a close one for me but no that's not mine that's one of julie's well it's 50 50 at this point so i'll go with um considerate oh i appreciate you that's my lowest one that's julie i am uh spirited and direct so you can imagine how high energy and intense i can be at times um but yes i'm spirited and direct and julie is considerate and systematic and so i always say she's the yin to my yang because we between the two of us uh it's a really good merit work marriage in terms of making sure all of the boxes are checked lots of idea generating lots of checking in on her part you know because sometimes i just go go go um when i create something and that i just do big picture kind of stuff she's really good at coming back in and filling in the process part with her systematic and so i really enjoy the work team and that's how a good team should be you really should have all of these personalities could you imagine if you just had you know five direct people five direct systematic people at that where everybody not only was very assertive in their thinking but very certain that they were correct that would be a very difficult team to work on and believe it or not i have worked with teams that have um predominantly one of the characteristics either a lot of direct or a lot of considerate you can imagine on a considerate board there's not a lot that gets done everybody's so worried about making a decision that that hurts somebody or they so much want to hear all the input from everyone that sometimes it's hard to get to get decisions made um so really like i said in the beginning all of of one is all of a good thing or too much of a good thing can be difficult for a team um all of these are really needed so with that what we're gonna do and i'm gonna do the same thing um i hope that people are comfortable enough with me popcorning around um but what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna go through everybody on here and that's the team included because uh you made the decision to to not just say the board and the superintendent but to include the administrators that you all work with um i'm gonna set a timer because if you're a spirited person like me you may want to talk for five minutes so i'm gonna put a timer everybody's gonna get two minutes there's ten of you so that'll take us about 20 minutes to get through but what i'm going to do is i'm going to give you two minutes i would like you to tell us your top style if you're close like if you have a top two like you're tied you've got 20 something in both of them or you got like 23 and 22 if you if you feel like it's really close um you can go ahead and share both of those but we um but we don't need to know all of them you can tell us your first second third and fourth um so that you know just if you want to but you have two minutes to share with us what you'd like using the questions that you answered as a guide so you might you don't have to answer all five questions in that two minutes but if you want to talk a little bit about first of all of course what your strengths are and then how you think that that would help the team um and what some what you're recognizing are going to be some of the things you're going to need to work on as a team member that those are the two that i think i would focus on instead of the jobs and future projects we'll talk about that a little later um but i'd like you to really focus more on what what are your strengths um and what you what you think that you bring to the team and then some things that you're kind of going yeah maybe i need to make sure i watch that going forward okay and what i'm going to do is if you can't hear my timer sometimes that happens i will just kind of wave it like this so i am going to start at the bottom of my screen i'm going to go to mum so i am considerate and then i'm really close to um systematic and direct so i know in terms of strengths when working with groups you know i listen i have high standards of performance at times and depending on the subject and the information i can get into the details and i'm always open to listening and change some of my challenges is that sometimes i'm too trusting of others um or the situation or a lot of times i trust until you break the trust and sometimes can be impatient with certain things depending on the topic or the area in which we're discussing so i do think it's important that i make sure if a voice isn't heard depending on the meeting and the type of meeting that we make sure that voices are heard from everybody so we can get their perspective and i think sometimes i can help other people understand or see the big picture depending on the dynamic of the group and if we're having conflict or if we're not agreeing on certain topics mom did you say you were considerate and what i was considerate and then i was very close with um direct and systematic they were just uh two points from one another or three points so consider it and then systematic and direct 30 23 and 20.
about 10.4 by the end of the week based on the fact that we had not time we had time to debrief and fully understand that week and know if our experience was a good one we made the next logical choice and did exactly what we explained we would do within the community we used our past experience it was benchmarked by that positivity rate we moved above nine percent and indicated that this past week we would be fully remote we did the work over the course of this past week and based on this experience our administrative team believes we feel that we can keep our students staff and our community safe when positivity is less than 10 percent to start a week as it was when we had headed into that first week of school this semester i have indicated all along to the board that we would come back and discuss as soon as we felt that we had enough evidence to move that number or for it to change up or down we would come back to the board and have that discussion and that's what leads us to being here today the 10 isn't a random number it reflects our experience and it points back to the top of the range within that cdc guidance that cdc guidance has become an interesting as i said correlation in in how we are are doing this as people look at at the decisions we're making in our community it's easy to to look at bits and pieces of information to put together and back up a point of view as to what the school district should be doing however this administrative team has worked very closely over the course of the school year constantly sharing and learning about the experiences that we're having within our schools and ultimately you know ed and janice and i we talk every day about how we get students back to school what the metrics say the larger team with gina and rob and scott and us me multiple times throughout the week this is constant ongoing conversation and ultimately that team is the only set of experts in the entire world that can put these three things together instructional programming strategies and guidelines and the impact that illness has had on our community and have a full perspective about how they all interact with one another to be the district 99 experience within this instructional model today we or this week we met we had the same kind of discussions that we've been having all year and we feel that based on that experience and what we have learned at the end of or coming into next week we can say when when numbers when community transmission indicates that it's below 10 based on our experience based on the correlation we've seen your kids will be safe with us that's why we're back here this morning to have this conversation because as soon as we feel like we can do that we strongly believe that if we can keep students safe at school it's our responsibility to have them here that's our full purpose of why we exist is to have students here with us in school so as a as a leader that you know i i am i am a science teacher i'm a logical and rational person um we consider all the variables as they change and the evidence in front of us and then we make the next change based on what we have learned and how we move forward it could change again as as we move forward and could go down based on what we learn it could change in any direction based on what we learn this is a novel virus none of us have the answers none of us have the answers for our own specific instructional model none of this has ever been done before but what we do is carefully go through all of the knowledge that we have gained and the goals of what we're trying to accomplish and try to match that up to get the right answer for our students next slide right so uh based on our review of this this week uh we have some changes that are already underway um we know that contact tracing we did see more illness that we had to follow up on most of that was people choosing to self quarantine outside of school actually we had very few students out because they were sick in the last week less than one percent the majority of absences in the last week were people that we expect students we expected to be coming to school but chose to stay home for whatever reason their family chose uh but we follow up within 24 hour period a 24-hour period with anybody reporting that they're staying home due to any kind of covid related illness or like illness so we were able to keep up with that that amount of work with the additional nurses we added but we expect that that might grow so our athletic directors had a great idea of utilizing our athletic trainers as additional help for contact tracers we have added one additional contact tracer at each of the schools to keep up with that workload and we have additional ones that we could add on at a moment's notice if we need to to keep up with that work we've also through our review there's a there's a process of notification there's there's two notification levels uh one is the contact tracing right if you're a close contact to somebody we follow up with you with a personal phone call or conversation to let you know that you were a close contact to somebody and then how the quarantine period works and all of those pieces and what signs of illness you need to be looking out for we have another process that's the low risk letter um we have made this a pretty intensive process to try to try to follow a set of protocols to get those low risk letters out our process is far more time intensive than what other schools in the area are doing they are other schools in the area are generally notifying people if a student came to the school in general and we later find out that they had covet and most of those notifications are being posted to a website we're going to follow that notification procedure the intent of the low risk letter is to just let know that let somebody know that they came into a location where kovid was present that's pretty much the entire community right now if you go to the grocery store you go anywhere uh covet is present in the community so we were taking a far more time intensive and aggressive process with those low risk letters and what we were finding was that people were confusing as a result people were confusing the low risk letters with a close contact letter so it was causing a lot of anxiety across with people and they thought that they were at risk because of that low risk letter and we feel like we need to step that back a little bit and get it closer to what the intent of that letter is and uh and reduce some of the anxiety our process is causing in some of the time that it's taking our team to keep up with those low risk letters so making a change in that and then we have two major things we've been working on for uh well one of them for for the past month which is testing programs uh scott and lisa or scott and gina have been working on scott mostly on the internal testing process getting our clia waiver and getting to the point where if we need to for a staff member or a student could do a covered test on site we're still working through that process and waiting for a cleo waiver but scott's been working diligently on on how that might look and then gina has been really working on with scott's help the external uh lab testing for saliva based testing of all students that are returning in person we plan on uh bringing a proposal for that to the board at the january 25th meeting where we would then have as a as a requirement a condition of choosing a hybrid model you would be selecting to participate in the the saliva based testing and then from there over time we could lessen our reliance on community metrics and point more towards the actual rate of the illness or presence of the virus within our own uh school system the other thing that happened was uh monday of this week we met with the regional office of education and the the process of putting together a vaccination program for school employees was tasked to the superintendents of the high school in elementary districts to put together a plan that works on site for us so we've been working we've spent a lot of time over the past week identifying a provider to to do the vaccinations and develop a potential plan we're also working closely with the villages that we partner with as we have we both have the need to vaccinate essential employees and are comparing notes and processes there and we hope within the next week here to come up with a a process for vaccination that we could also share with the board at the january 25th meeting both the idea of testing and vaccinations will cause us to greatly change or consider changing how we measure if it's safe to come back to school next slide so just to review this is a slide that indicates from the cdc the things that we should be considering in and we do consider that community burden but of course as i said earlier that is correlated with our experience and those things factor together um our third key indicator is the ability to keep up with contact tracing and then of course we need to follow the safety strategies the mitigation strategies that are listed below so based on all of our work over the course of this year and especially our recap and administrative review of the first week over the past week if you go to the next slide rod uh you know we're recommending that we set that positivity rate below 10 since we were able to keep students safe in a week that we opened at 10 and we kept our staff safe during that week there are concerns about using the northwestern website because data is delayed there so what we've started doing actually there's a community member rich benema who has been working closely with me because he's been recording idph data for since early january uh so he shared his data set with me and then i went and i'm gathering it for the district as well and have verified his numbers against the the idph and the the northwestern numbers by monday we will have an internally calculated 14 day average so we will you still use the northwestern website as a third-party independent validation of our map and make sure that we're calculating and recording all of the data correctly but come monday on the dashboard that we're copying for district 99 off of the northwestern website we will add a tab to that that has the idph data as well as we head in today i don't have that data for you because we haven't collected 14 days yet of data however i do have the seven day uh average for us and we are at 7.93 for the seven day so you know we are below that 10 in which we opened in that first week and we're trending down in that first week we opened below 10 and we were trending up so when we say follow the science follow the data follow the trends um it is likely that at some point next week if not by monday we are under that nine percent threshold that we set on december 14th um and we'll have another set of data to back up what we've been gathering from northwestern we appreciate the the voluntary work that northwestern university is doing and making that data easy and accessible for communities to use but we know that you know they're staffing it and doing it out of the kindness of their heart and if we're trying to make timely decisions we just want to go to the source with idph so we'll use the ibph data to have our own 14-day rolling average and then validate our math and our numbers against the northwestern site moving forward so we chose monday because uh you know that is closer to the date and i know some board members raised concerns of the number friday looking so far back before school started i would be comfortable with that being friday or monday you heard from our teachers looking at that number on friday definitely gives them the weekend to know what's going to happen and to plan and probably creates a better educational experience for our students the following week monday gives us you know more recent data the the the world of of covid is all about trade-offs and um you know we we trade off more recent data for putting our teachers in a position where at the last minute they're having to modify and change plans it puts a lot of stress on our teachers um it might create not the best learning environment even if we are able to come back in person but i did hear clearly that people were concerned about using the most recent data so this is all all trade-offs um so we brought based on what i heard from from board members and from the community that the friday before numbers were looking too far back in the past so that's why the monday recommendation is there i'd like to hear in the discussion that follows here with the board where the board members fall on that now that you know you've heard what we've what we knew a lot all along from our our teaching staff and you've also heard from our community as well other than that all of our metrics remain the same all of our safety protocols remain the same we're staying at 12 for cohorts that mirrors our experience from first semester 12 seemed to be the number of concern that's when we started to see illness spread amongst the that student body and even some of the staff there um you know it just it's more prevalent in the community so staffing started to become challenging so uh last slide ron so that's our recommendation coming into today although the board absolutely i'm hoping the board has a discussion about what i just shared with you and then the administration is obviously open to changing that recommendation or the board not approving it at all and leaving it nine percent um or you know any other variation upon that as as the administration always does so um that's it for the superintendent report on the topic thank you hank okay we are open for discussion did you want to start terry otherwise i'll start off if nobody wants to begin go ahead you start nancy um but i think didn't sherrell have to leave so maybe she needs to speak first i don't know um i guess i'll hear from the rest of the board then i'll share my opinion okay well i'll start i gotta say this is one of the three times in my ten years here that i have come into a meeting not knowing where which way i was gonna fall on uh which way i was gonna vote so i um this stuff has been swirling around in my head and i'm just gonna you know there's there's pros and there's cons and that's what i've actually done is just made a pros and cons list for myself and it's not in any given order but these are my thoughts take them for what they're worth so the pro is i think for changing the positivity metric is we all recognize the positive positivity metric is not really that great of a metric period there's a lot of vagaries associated with it however it is one of the two um primary measures advocated by the cdc and the dupage board of health and while a lot of people argue that it can be artificially high because there are more older people more older people are being tested it also i would argue might be artificially low because of poor sensitivity of the antigen test which they to dan's point a few weeks ago they dumped in there and lack of access by those who can't afford to be tested um also um this is absent the whole discussion about the fact that our incidence rate which is the rate per 100 000 is 50 above the top level recommended by the cdc or dpa or idp we'll just say cdc and idph going forward because they're they mirror each other pretty pretty much um and that can't be ignored we are already operating 50 50 above the high no the high end of that rate there is an indicator there is a secondary indicator that speaks to a percent change in new cases per hundred thousand population during the last seven days compared to the previous seven days which might be valuable to consider and that's about the end of that is less than or equal to ten percent and i just roughly looked at it because i didn't have all the historical data and frankly we've been about that going on ongoing okay another pro governor pritzker is moving our uh we should soon hopefully be moving down a tier based on a 12 positivity rate which is significantly higher than what's being proposed here today right um but again you know i keep thinking about that incident rate the fact that we are already above the recommended incident rate we are surging and the impact of the holidays is not yet fully felt which concerns me and then we have the emergence of the new um b117 lineage of sorry we don't know what the impact of that is going to be on our community to think that we were never going to have alterations in the virus would would have been naive we knew this was coming we just don't know what the impact is going to be okay our pro we have two weeks of experience our con we have two weeks of experience so the fact that you know i appreciate the fact that um administration is following so closely i am cons both heartened that we have some experience and concern that we have so little experience the pro is parents have the choice about whether or not they send their their children to school um is that but i don't know if that's an informed choice about all of the risks you know what i mean they they i frankly when my children were in high school and even in college i left it to the school to decide a lot of things because i felt they were doing a good job of that the con is both the staff and community don't have a choice about whether or not we go back they have a voice but they don't have a choice unless they're a parent of a student the pro we have increased staff and we feel like we can manage it i think that's great we've hired new nurses we've got some more contact tracers um i still don't understand like feel i mean feel like we can do it is an anecdotal review i know you're looking at different indicators but we really and and frankly it's all you can do right now i mean i'm not faulting the administration and saying oh you're not looking at closely enough it's all that is available i get that i understand that so it's going to be we're really limited with objective criteria and the whole idea about case monitoring and tracing back with fidelity to to whether or not a transmission happened in school it's it's it's a swag it's a scientific wild ass guess you know that and that's all it is and again i'm not condemning the fact that we're doing it because that's what it's the only thing available for for anybody including healthcare professionals the pro is that we have community supporting this chain the con is we have members of the community supporting remaining the same the pro is that we have other schools that are opening and don't seem to have a problem with outbreaks however not all of those schools are back yet and all of those schools are following our original hybrid model right they're having fewer students in class so we have hinsdale relatively the same numbers they have no history of outbreak they're following the old hybrid example naperville is going to hybrid at the end of january westmont is coming back next week wheat and warrenville i didn't i i think they're back i didn't i didn't this week following a similar you know almost all the so when we start back next week yeah and as i've always said it's dangerous to compare oh yeah the models however especially from the first semester they were very different however as you indicated most schools are returning under a a similar hybrid model where half the kids are coming back over the course of the week at a time in different time structures but in different time structures but most of them it seems to me from just a quick review it's like our original hybrid model right getting closer to one another now so you know that's heartening because we have other boards that are and and administrations that are supporting returning to hybrid but again we don't really know and while the percentage of young people is low you know the kind of this is well so we're coming back because there is and i agree there is well there's there's varying documentation about the impact of hybrid on young people i don't think it is it does not seem to impact the same younger people in the same numbers that it's impacting older people i think that's pretty consistent across the research but it's not absent you know what i mean there's still opportunity there still a few younger people who get hybrids tend to be hospitalized and to be if they become ill become more severely ill although many of them don't have any symptoms at all so it's it's it's um it's an unknown and the results we're learning more and more about the results just because there hasn't been time about the devastation of the disease so i continue to um grapple with this stuff in my head about what is the right thing to do i am not a risk adverse individual i've taken a lot of risks in my personal life when it comes to safety though in this case i lean as i have always leaned on airing on the side of safety so that's where i am i'd love to hear other people's thoughts so i i'll chime in next so thank you nancy for really driving us down the path of the pros and cons i i have a question um and i've been researching and trying to look through all these things because there's a lot of data a lot of information out here right as it should be right we're talking about a world pandemic i was recently talking to a co-worker who's in europe and they've totally gone to a six-week shutdown or again so you know not only i have the perspective of here you know again world pandemic i'm hearing from different people and how things are being handled i i guess the question i have um hank you're advocating because i was thinking through the notes to start this on tuesday what's you you're advocating to right now for me i wouldn't say that i couldn't be opposed to the ten percent we had a big discussion last week about nine and why nine was right and you know here we're today within within a week asking for a higher number however i'm not certain i'm comfortable with this as early as tuesday i feel like i haven't as much information i've strived to gather in the short distance of time of calling for a special meeting on just this past wednesday to have it on saturday i've tried to find out as much information as i can but do i feel fully informed do i feel even fully informed after even the information you just provided i'll say no so i could potentially be in favor of it i don't know how comfortable i am with saying let's do this on tuesday and that's my honest answer right now and you know that's where i stand so shirelle to clarify i'm sorry are you saying you support the change to 10 but maybe not as soon as tuesday yeah i think i'm good but not as soon as not right now okay thank you so um i've got a couple of comments i'll try to keep them brief for us all since it is a saturday morning first off want to congratulate pink and his staff for having the flexibility and continuing to work to refine the metrics and refine our plan to make it safe for the kids to be back in school so first off i just want to say thank you to you and the team for doing that secondly maybe not as related to the 10 percent number but as you know i i have fundamental issues with this statistic being used as the measure of indicator of safety and unfortunately for you i'm not going to let that go it'll come up in future meetings um you know i'll keep bringing that up um but in regards to the 10 um i am strongly in favor of making that change and making that change now it's a step towards getting the kids back in school sooner i feel even more comfortable about it considering that the current four uh 14 day average is like nine and a half or something like that and trending down so we may be under nine or really close to nine on monday or tuesday anyway so we're almost already to where we were um you mentioned hank the seven day average is actually under eight at 7.93 so i strongly support making this move um but also encourage the administration to continue being flexible and looking at these metrics especially as things change either positively or negatively with the strain with how our vaccines impact um these types of numbers um as we can do testing and actually look at internal metrics i i encourage you to keep that flexibility in mind and keep looking at those a couple or just one question for you because this because we're using a 14-day average here a seven-day average is a good indicator on the direction that that 14-day indicator is going so would it be possible if you're making the decision on monday would it be possible for you to indicate to the teachers on thursday or friday hey not making a decision now but the trend looks like and most likely we will be in school because i'm thinking most of the time you're going to be able to make that call based on the seven day number and the trend that we're going just to give the educators as much time as possible to plan for that um so um dan we'll just comment on that while we're on it one of the things that we did discuss on the administrative team remember we're trying to to balance ease of use as part of transparency with picking the right numbers and metrics and you know based on evidence something the team did discuss was setting it at 10 but only if the seven-day average was on the decline right so that was you know something that we kicked around on our team is working in the seven day trend with the 14 day positivity rate it just you know it adds a layer of complexity to it that you know people have to understand the full piece to know what's going on i i think that that would be something fair to discuss at this time or the board to consider based on what you're saying now yeah i think my only thoughts with that is i i think the seven day indica the seven day number is a good indicator on the direction that the 14 day is going but as you're using a smaller data set seven days versus 14 days that seven day numbers tends to be more volatile and more susceptible to things like large spikes and either number of tests or large spikes and or changes in data so i would i mean honestly for the the visibility for the public i would be hard-pressed to say you know i think that's a difficult number i would prefer to use that 7-day number if you can and if you're comfortable on fridays or thursdays just send a note out to the teacher saying it looks like based on current trends that on monday the decision will be to be back in school because we're going to be under 10.
mooresville hopes to increase their winning record and repeat their victory from last year against the bulldogs and the home team columbus north bulldogs coached by paul ferguson in his sixth year at columbus north are coming into tonight's matchup with a 7-2 record both of their losses coming to excellent basketball programs from the mick conference carmel and lawrence central the bulldogs are returning to the court for the first time since last friday night where they barely slid past the terre haute north patriots 43-42 leading the way for the bulldogs last friday were seniors blake barker with 15 points and max wilson with six junior cooper horn also contributed 13 points the bulldogs are hoping to get off to a fast start tonight and remain undefeated here at home and jumping right into things cooper horn will try three off the left side but he's going to miss mooresville will take it out the other way mooresville's zach woodson works here against jacob trusina he's going to drive right put up a layup his shot's no good and cooper horn is going to take it the other way for the bulldogs he gets it to blake barker underneath but it looks like mooresville swiped it away they'll come back the other direction luke fowler guarded by sam king here columbus north with some good defense to start the game off thus far that was number 35 luke fowler who got the jumper off but trucino will get the rebound for the dogs and get it to harmon he'll go down court to horn and horn will lay a layup in that's a good work by north to push the pressure on the fast breaks they get a lot of buckets off those easy lips and north already taking advantage of the full court press like we see him do so often luke fowler underneath is going to get the bucket [Applause] looks like mooresville is coming out here in a zone often or zone defense rather and christina's got it at the top for the bulldogs gonna get to harmon in the corner harmon's gonna take a three his shot will be good [Music] and tristina swiped the ball away but morrisville will retain possession and north coming out in there one two two for full court pressure here they get a lot of deflections and a bunch of steals and they're in their game so far this season look to see that happen again here tonight against the pioneers trusina swipes the ball away and harmon's going to get it feed it down court to horn and horn's going to lay it in for the and one a good play by true cena on the defensive side leads to a horn and one and horn's already got a couple baskets on just those fast break layups there north just get some all was been sloppy at the half court and able to get some layups and horns gonna make that free throw already off to five points this evening [Music] and number 31 ashton hulk's claw tried to feed it underneath but he's going to lose the ball out of bounds and the bulldogs will take it the other way and you can really tell here that north is just making the pioneers speed up they're uncomfortable with the ball that's just an unforced turnover there he just threw it right out of bounds and trusina has it up top for the dogs he's going to get it to king in the corner who's going to throw it to harmon up top harmon's going to find horn underneath and cooper horn is going to put up another layup bringing his total to seven points so far [Music] sam king with the steal and that's a good look there uh for the pioneers just not enough mustard on that pass and trusina is going to try three off the assist from horn but it's no good mooresville comes down with the rebound you're going to get it down under going to kick it out to number 11.
okay so 30 was a strong one um consider it is your your primary so that's what we'll we'll mark um and if you see on page as we're going along on the next page there's a um your team's style profile on page 12 and on there you see the triangle diamond oval and rectangle for the different styles go ahead and just put a initials or draw a line and put a name so that you know who's in which which one um it's not a lot of space so i would say try to focus mostly on their primary one unless their primary one was close like so if so for example if mom had one that was and 28 i would say those are both her primary ones okay thank you mom let's go to david so my top two were very close i was a 27 for spirited and a 26 for considerate and so when i look at that i think my my strengths and what i add to the team i think i'm good at building collaboration within the team and being kind of an energizer and an encourager and harmonizer i think those are the pieces that uh i add to the team i do like to listen and hear from everyone on there um and then be able to get their points of view and look at their perspective as we go forward making a decision uh i think definitely one of my um greatest challenges uh is is staying focused and staying in my lane i think sometimes i have a tendency or i feel it to um maybe step outside of my role a little bit and then as uh i'm sure dr foley would agree she might have to remind me to stay on task and stay going and i feel like i'm i'm dug from up every now and then and i see squirrel and i just start going that way but from a big picture as well uh my my absolute worst was systematic um and you know when you talk about deadlines and meeting things and and uh that's why i think it's really important that we have good support from myself for sure staying on top and staying in those deadlines and i appreciate virginia so much strong-arming me to make sure i can get my things done and turned into dr foley on time so we can get to spirit definitely fits with coach right so um that that's a good spot for you and consider it mom is a perfect role for hr because you really have to listen to other people and make sure they feel comfortable so at least you know you can feel good about the life choices that you've made um i'm going to mix it up and i'm going to go out of order hopefully this doesn't result in me forgetting someone but we have a lot of staff i want to do a board member here real quick let's do um amy you're on mute amy you're on mute oops um okay so i'm considerate and then i was also like mom direct and systematic were close second um i believe i'm a good listener i try to lend a helping hand whenever possible i try to encourage those around me i'm able to disagree with others with kindness but some of my challenges are then i am sensitive and i take criticism very personally i want to make everybody happy and i can't and easier easier for me sometimes to stay very quiet during board meetings because i know every word i say will get twisted in the public view or misconstrued so i'm very very careful um when i speak in board meetings and i think sometimes people expect me to say more because i'm supposedly the president but um i just have seen things go south for many school board members and another challenge i face is i hear a lot all the time i'm very into social media i have kids in the district and so i do hear a lot of um grumblings and i again take all that to heart um in ways i can improve i need to keep a more bird's-eye view and not listening to the only loudest voices in the community thank you guys don't even need this timer okay um [Music] let's go with dawn okay so mine was really interesting because i am like so close on three of them i was a 26 on considerate but i was tied with 24s on systemic uh or systematic and direct um so i think when i was reflecting on that i think that um maybe my strength is being um a harmonizer because i try to kind of conduct but i'm very comfortable going between um wanting to listen but then jumping into being real direct systemic and explicit with so what now what and how do we move forward so i think i'm kind of it's interesting that i'm my numbers are so close is that is that is that unusual no and it's actually not unusual for things to be almost i don't know if it's possible for them to be exact because of the the um the number but um yeah there's it's uh people can get almost exact numbers close enough numbers in all four and be kind of in the middle and the interesting thing about that uh dawn is that um and we'll talk about it a little bit more on the team as as we get through all of this um when you have something that's close like a a close one like that um you have your natural and then you have what's natural with you given a situation so if something is missing so if you're on it for example um i consider it as my least my least one in terms of taking time making sure everybody's hurt making sure people feel good and all that stuff i'm like a go-go-go um but if i'm on a team with a bunch of other go go go go i can kick that one into gear because when it's missing i notice it and so i will kick that into gear so that might make sense to you in terms of um so far what we've seen is a lot of considerate um and so you come across more direct um in that because you work with so many considerate people so i think that so i think that when i look at challenges i think one of the hard parts is is that um obviously we're so new things are so have been so different we've had such um uh crisis management situations that are beyond our control and so i think it's interesting that our i think it's we've had to rely on different parts of our strengths uh to kind of come together to figure out what are we going to do what's best for higley and how are we going to do that with what we know and are able to control um you know i think um the idea of of um in a way i was thinking you know when i was looking at the the team roles being so close i think being a harmonizer and a gatekeeper to help coordinate coordinate and complete is probably a good thing with the strengths and talents of the team we have with the work that we have to do together as a new team um would be a positive um i think two is a challenge i too am someone i think probably the considerate part is uh true because i do i take it to heart i you keep me up at night i will work on it until we have a solution um so that was my reflection on kind of this this has been this was interesting and i love hearing what everyone else is oh perfect timing your timing just went off um okay stop i gotcha okay thank you dawn for sharing um let's go to sherry so you're gonna hear that david and i balance each other out pretty well because i'm the systematic direct person they were 29 systematic and direct was and the other ones were completely different so i think i'm good at thinking critically and analytically organization is a strength i have high standards and expectations i pay attention to details i don't mind conflict and risk i try to focus on the big picture and sometimes i'm assertive maybe too assertive those weaknesses include being impatient highly critical of myself and sometimes others being a perfectionist and trying to focus on data instead of people and that's an embarrassing one to say sometimes because i love people but i get distracted by data sometimes i really need to work on listening more intently and lightening up should i say but that's why mr jokester is two offices down so that's mine thank you i really appreciate those that have gone so far being really honest um and that's what this is about it's it's just it's not bad or worse it's just acknowledging where you're at and where that uh is helpful and where that sometimes can get away from you um so thank you so much for sharing nikki is it like are we going to share what we think of others later because like what sherry just said i don't picture her being she's so kind and so compassionate so i i see that in her that she didn't even mention i don't know i think that's interesting um not necessarily we are going to talk about um the team and at that point we might say like hey i um because sometimes we don't always are like hey i would be good at this role you know or if we do think that we might not say it so when we get to the team one and um we can start like saying hey you know this would be a good role for you because um we see this this characteristic in you um you can certainly use um this to have a conversation that's the sad thing about not being um in a room is usually in a room when you don't have zoom that cuts you off if you try to talk over each other people will be laughing going oh yeah i totally see that or i don't know what you're talking about never seen that and um so yeah it's a little bit unfortunate we're not going to specifically go around the room and say what you think of each other uh or what what you have seen but you can definitely have a conversation later like yeah i really see that direct like that makes sense i see that now um and we we will have a chance to say some ahas because as people go through their styles you might be like oh okay that's why they're like you know that's why they're like that i'll give you an example um i am a spirited person and so i like to go around and say hi to people in their offices i um work with some very systematic people who have every 15 minutes of their day scheduled of what they're going to be doing each each 15 minutes of their day and um some of them don't like when i do that and i didn't i learned that the hard way like they just looked irritated and i just thought like oh they must be having a bad day no it's because i came in and messed up their stuff like they had a plan and i was messing it up by just popping in and just talking about something random and even if it was work related i didn't schedule an appointment with them or ask them if they had the time to talk i just went in and started talking not about it wasn't a bad intention but just not recognizing that that was uh while i love when people pop by my office to say hi other people aren't like that they they like to schedule those things so um one of the things that i had to learn to do for certain people is send them an email and say hey i'd like to stop by today one would be good um and that was just a little tweak that that you had to do but that's um that's the purpose of this let's go to tiffany all right um i am correct and spirited uh they were both pretty even at 28 and 27 and um this is no surprise to me at all um uh considerate and systematic uh we're pretty low with systematic being the lowest um i am uh more of a vision big picture uh person i um the details are very hard for me i i don't like to get into the minutia of things i i um i like to take charge and uh i'm direct and assertive i often um uh the feeling side of things isn't always easy for me when we're talking about um business i i tend to be more business and and have trouble taking into people's feelings into consideration uh sometimes as far as being considerate i try to be considerate but i just am more business and open and direct um i am not someone that gets hurt my feelings hurt easily um and i'm not easily offended at all uh i um i uh i like to work on a lot of different projects um and i tend to be very spirited um which is an issue with uh um being direct sometimes because i tend to to want to take on different projects and go in different directions and then sometimes um can't get it all done uh at once i uh um uh have the issue of uh seeing a squirrel and and i wish i could be like you mentioned nikki where i schedule 15 minutes of my day each day um and i'm able to get that done and stay on track but i don't um one of the the challenges or some of the challenges i feel that i do need to listen to people's feelings a little bit better um and uh stay stay focused and uh dire uh what i'm doing instead of being um in different buckets all the time uh i am sorry i think that's a and just and patience i i need to have more patience as well i like to get things done right away and with government and school board you know things don't happen right away and and i uh i struggle with that a little bit thank you tiffany we are the same animal director um yes thank you for sharing i know and that that considerate thing um it's not and people say oh yeah that makes sense that person's not consider it's not that we're not considerate it's just not our go-to to be like how are they feeling how is this landing on them um my husband i love it too my husband is also opposite of me he's a systematic considerate so he um thinks so much about how his words are going to land on other people that that sometimes it the conversation passes them by and now he's like well i don't want to go back a week later and say my feeling because that seems weird right but uh but yeah it's definitely a skill to be able to simultaneously hear people or or speak and and be able to know how that might be landing that's such a gift and i wish i had more of that i kind of say it and then afterwards go oh put it like that right i'm i'm i feel like you said i'm not i don't just um i don't um not care about people's feelings it's just not the go-to and i'm open to listening to everybody's thoughts and ideas it's just i'm not good at the the pleasantries i like the the the feelings and always asking how people's feelings are all the time well definitely something that uh being a board member and then having all these people um listening to what you say it's definitely something that we have to work on yes all the time so um let's go to michael all right no i uh i was i was reflecting as i did did my um stop styles and um i think um we have the long weekend so i'm going to go back and and my wife loves this kind of thing as well so i think we're going to going to do it together too just so because you want to know what i rated and then to talk about her but i can see that there's some some opposites there um for sure but um so i i came out the the two um i had i was tied for 25 with considerate and systematic and so when i looked at that um for the most part um you know some of the personal strength active listening helping when needed but also thinking critically and adequate analytically tied to that and certainly the need for for lots of organizational uh pieces um some of the areas of challenge that that that i pulled out of that too i think sometimes i don't always express my opinion which is certain certainly an area to to to grow grow on i think um though another one of the the trouble spots for me is sometimes trusting too easily and then and it may be coveted enhanced but i do um you know and i and i i tell myself no no it doesn't bother me but i think i think i've been i i'm overly sensitive to or i really have felt the criticism kind of even what amy has reflected on too it's it's kind of like you're in a no-win situation right now and it's been it's been it's been really hard i mean it's it's in all the years that i've been in education this has been the most difficult one for sure um but but i i feel like as a team um we've all been in it together and one of the things that i've enjoyed this year is just the collaborative nature of our work great great um co-workers that was a considerate and um she always kind of takes offense to doesn't share her opinions she's like no i'm very opinionated i share my opinions we were having a conversation she said you know what i realized is i think i am sharing my opinion but i'm saying in a way that's gonna you know be considerate and it's not always picked up like people don't pick it up that that was her opinion um because she's it's maybe not direct enough to say like so some people just go right past it and don't realize that she did give an opinion you just didn't hear it um and so she said don't people think that we're not opinionated as considerate people we are it's not that we don't have an opinion it's just hard to make sure that we articulate that in a way um that we're just working hard to make sure that that lands the right way and like i said with my husband sometimes you know in a board meeting or in a staff meeting it's you know at the moment passes and you you know your ideas come later that's why it's always good to think about the people on your team and and give opportunities that's why with the chat i like the chat part um because there's people that are going to unlike and share their opinions and there's other people that are still thinking on it so i love having the chat available for people to put that in after the fact when when they've given it a little bit more thought um let's go to shauna and that's my sister's name by the way oh there's not very many of us and my last name my maiden name was richards so um sherry has my last name so oh anyway not that it's not about me it's about you shawna let's hear more about you well this i i was i'm a lot like dawn and the fact that i'm even kind of even i should say my two strongest which is not going to be of any surprise to a lot of people um is direct was a 27 and systematic was a 26 with spirited being a 20 and consider it being a 17 um which is the story of my life um i am a super task oriented so if you give me a task i will get it done um in my position with special ed i have to be straightforward so i i'm able to have really difficult conversations and share difficult information and it doesn't make me nervous i almost feel like honored to do it because i'm helping a family work through something difficult um but with being that way i am so assertive that sometimes i run people over and i know that or i'm also so assertive that sometimes people in my group don't step up and have the opportunity to grow because i'll do it just get out of my way mentality kind of um i'm also very impatient so and because of that sometimes i don't want to follow a process because i just want to get to the end because i know what the right answer is and then when i go back and actually follow the process i grow more through the process than if i had just done it the way i thought it needed to be done and then um the other thing is i think because i'm so assertive and and i'm comfortable with difficult conversations i think people sometimes have a hard time coming to me because they're nervous because they know i'm just gonna hit it head on and so i probably inflict stress on other people that have to come to me and have difficult conversations because they just don't want to do it with me so and i can say if being in special ed has really helped me even these things out um because i've done a lot of things wrong in the beginning and i've had to learn to stop myself follow the process listen before offering fixes just all of that stuff and i also think as i've gotten older the considerate has gotten less i don't know if that's just what happens as you get older or sped did that to me i don't know well yeah you would think with that because uh you have to let like people uh and working i used to work you know with a lot of students that were special ed or emotional um and social emotional issues there's a lot of talking and a lot of times they don't know what's wrong with them so they're not very direct on it and it's a lot of you know listening so that can be um pretty difficult uh to be a direct person and be patient enough to like listen through that and to also let them speak before you're already solving their problems for them that's another another challenge that i know i share that as well um but i want to again thank everybody for being honest and to remember that this is not just um a confessional where we dump it out here and then go okay i feel better because i acknowledge these things that i i do or don't do um this is really the opportunity to take notes on that to to make sure that um you come up with a plan on how you're gonna address that so you know all those things where we said oh i really don't know you know a number five anybody that i need to work with better maybe at the end of this you might go hmm maybe there is a way that i can there's some things that i can work on to work better with these these types of personalities or these these types of people on my team um so as we move forward just remember to be taking notes for yourself on things that they like and appreciate and things that you know that maybe you could change to help you uh be a better team member um let's go to um michelle um my top one was systematic with the 26 and consider it was right behind it with the 25 um with spirited being my least but not far behind strengths are listening and i put hearing what people say um i love to take into account as many sides and views before i i do anything or truly make an opinion about anything um my personality is business first social second um i can relate to a lot what sherry said and i agree with what amy said like i don't see that side of sherry but i can relate to it a lot um another strength is that i'm super motivated um i get very excited about things i am very competitive very competitive it's actually irritating but um i love challenges so i look forward to do a lot of things um some of my greatest challenges are just human nature in general um i have a lot of fear the unknown so i'll stay awake thinking about all the what-ifs and things out of my control um a lot of it's confidence as well for me um i will and can never feel um or establish myself as the most intelligent person in the room so um i hold back on speaking up a lot um i just feel like it's rude at some times or just like what people will judge me to say being just dumb or just not necessary because i guess i'd probably do that like oh why are we talking about this so i'll judge myself on the same um but with that about speaking up i do feel like i have um it's full of regret because um although i'm not the smartest but i feel like i have a lot of experience so i can share they could help with the topic of discussion um a challenge is also just time to dedicate um just you know i i want to be educated in all discussions and and making really informed decisions and um the whole goal as i love that was stated before was to children students are first but it's helping the adults to um to do that and that that comes with um education um also it's right now with teaching um i'm exhausted uh teaching uh two different science classes and that plc lead on top of that site council um on spread of it then so i worry right now the start of it hopefully you make some changes if you move forward i like to have quiet focused work time but i uh i crave human interactions so it's a constant balance for me to want to focus on the matter at hand but look forward to when people do walk in the room or if you want to go walk to other people's rooms but i have to choose wisely at times um and i'm always concerned about it's not necessarily people pleasing and maybe it is i don't know but um i'm always concerned about letting people down um that probably just encompasses all the yeah and challenges stated that's me in a nutshell thank you i appreciate it yeah systematic considerate um that it that combination um because you want to hear everybody and you also want to think through the problem so much it does make it difficult to to kind of land on a decision and land on you know going forward because um you know you do want to make sure that you didn't you didn't miss anything right and sometimes we don't always have the luxury of that much time um and that makes us uncomfortable sometimes with the decisions because we didn't check all of our boxes yet um and so that that can be difficult to challenge especially in something with uh when you're working in a team and you only get one of five votes right then it's uh it's really difficult but i appreciate you you sharing all of that and i those considerate soft souls i feel for you so much because i'm kind of like tiffany in that i it's very hard to get my feelings hurt um and i i really feel for those folks that um you know kind of really just persevere i mean there are times i do perseverate on those things but you know um i always love doing this training because it reminds me to be kind to be kind with your words you know because you never know what you're gonna i would i would give up a kidney to have a piece of tiffany's have a piece of that what she had just like that's what well the nice thing about all of these things before i move on to uh jill is um you know the they are things that you can build up and take time and i've heard a couple people say like with age or with different circumstances or you know with time you can work on that um i've worked a lot on my um systematic and my considerate over the years um so that because i've been able to have people call me in and i've been able to have opportunities like this to learn that i'm like okay this is something that i need to do in order to to be a better leader to be a better team member um and so it it's uh it's good to always be looking at that because it's not going to be your natural but it doesn't mean that you can't do it it's just going to take a little bit more intentional effort joe so i am systematic and considerate with 31 and 29.
i mean you would know i mean if we were at 9 and the 7 day was at 14 percent you pretty much know that it's it's going in that wrong direction and then no numbers would flip so that's my only concern with the seven day number that tends to be much more volatile dan you ended up exactly where the administrative team ended up this concussion um the last um the last thing yeah so and just in conclusion and i'll stop talking a note saturday morning like i said fundamental issues with that 10 number we'll talk about that more in the future but for the vote today uh strongly in favor of the move to 10 percent to to get the kids back in school and to honestly give us more that data that we can use and and move forward so that's my thoughts i'm going to say that you know nancy you laid everything out the pros and cons i know i couldn't do a better job and like sherelle i feel that there's not been enough time i'm not comfortable voting for that at this time um i did the other thing that bothers me is unpredictability of this virus and that this back and forth back and forth into school i mean it does make life in general hard to plan for the families and the staff and i think in the final analysis i think that public health you don't have education if you don't have good public health basically and so i'm not comfortable voting for the 10 percent at this time who's next oh i'm going to be very short i am full in favor of this anything that we can do to get the kids back into school i'm for i don't think this is a radical movement of the numbers i think it just it it helps us better get the kids back in school where they need to be so i'm full in favor of this like i was a couple days ago when i mentioned it to begin with i'm also in favor and uh support uh i i would just echo um i what dan's comments were uh i agree with uh pretty much everything he said nancy uh great job with the pros and cons but um i prefer to stay out of the weeds and let the uh you know let this that that hank kind of lead that and and it rightly wrong you can't help but you're that's your level of expertise i'm an architect so um so i rely on you and and and hank in this so uh my only concern i guess is just hearing from the dgea this morning and uh some concern about you know if the last item on the slide uh adequate staff and students available always a factor um you know whether or not you've gotten some input you know from the the dgea as to whether or not this change to a monday uh decision will affect um staffing and uh i guess that that would be my only concern but i support whatever you're recommending here mike i don't think it would affect staffing and staff like choosing not to be here at school right i think it does possibly have impact on the ability for our staff to be able to plan what's happening with their families the next week you know everybody's dealing with a variety of child care issues or many people are and the the structure of work life and their you know their partners at home or whoever that is right so the the later that we make the decision for our families or for our staff just the more complexity it introduces into their lives i don't think that our staff all of our staff have been the utmost professionals through this whole thing i i don't think that there's any risk of you know a staff member acting unprofessionally as a result of this change it quite honestly though does put more stress on our employees to make this change so can you i mean dan's suggestion that you're on on friday giving people an indication hey we're looking we're you know things are moving this direction of course we'll make the final call on monday but just you know to look look forward this is where we're we're looking for the next week just to give somebody give people some sense of of uh you know what to expect it does but it doesn't eliminate the uncertainty that they're concerned about absolutely i understand um uh just uh and that's the nature of the beast here right yes i mean you know but you're but uh and you can't do more than this but to give people some sort of uh an indication ahead of time and um and and then everyone can everyone can also be looking at those numbers just like they've always been available um you know that that so i you know giving that giving people a sense on their own to be able to see where we're going and for you to kind of affirm that um understanding that everything could change on monday because uh you know we still have data to collect on friday saturday sunday so thank you i just have a quick question um is there going to be new opportunity for uh students and families to choose fully remote after the statistic changes like is going to be a new form sent out and everything yeah students can always choose to go from uh in person to remote it's the other direction that we haven't except for rare occurs occasions allowed for because we have to make sure that we have space in every class the classroom um so we can't allow the other way and more students to show up than what we've planned for and where we've placed all of the the classes but yes students could hear this change and choose hey you know i'm not comfortable or families i'm not comfortable with the safety measure of this metric at 10 rather than nine so i'd like to move to remote and they could do that at any point yeah i think that i mean i'm not voting but if you want to hear the student perspective i think that at least for me with that option to that's always there to be able to go remote i think that um we should definitely strongly consider and potentially approve that that 10 number i guess it's my turn um i am so torn with this because i personally i don't like the um the fact that um every week it seems to change one you know you're remote you're you're in school you're in remote you're in school i don't think that that's a really good thing for for anyone to do um the other the other thing is is that um as nancy said earlier this virus is so unpredictable that we um we don't know how this mutation is it's just common to illinois and we don't know how that's going to affect us and god only knows when we're going to get vaccines in our arms so we don't know um you know how long that's going to be it could be uh you know next week or it could be next month or even the end of the month at the end of the semester so uh i'm just so torn on this because i understand the numbers and um and that but gosh safety is a is a huge deal so um i don't know i don't know i can't can't wrap my head around all of it so i don't know i would just make make an argument uh in favor uh from the standpoint that you know this is what our our our team is recommending that we do um and as we've trusted them with so many things and uh you know they've proven time and time again not just on on this issue right you know but everything else that we rely on uh that we don't have these deep deep discussions about um and and we trust and uh there's been absolutely no evidence that we shouldn't uh trust the recommendation and so that's you know you know sometimes it's difficult right we all want to um we want to know um we're afraid about sticking our own necks out sometimes uh making a mistake and and especially when it comes to things that we're just not experts about and we're not um this is uh you know we're just not and and it's unfortunate that our staff has had to become right um this is not something that uh that uh superintendents or principals or anybody or ever dreamed that they would have to have to uh tackle and and and lead on and uh but but our our our folks are doing an exemplary job and uh until i see otherwise that's where i'm gonna place my trust and um so i just encourage you terry and everybody else to you know to keep that in mind um you know these are peop these are people that we've hired to make the tough decisions and and uh and they they have even maybe more concern than we do about keeping our our community safe our students safe our staff safe um so uh just i guess that's where i'm at you know mike i agree with everything you said but i would like to say that if we do not if somebody does not vote to change the metric that is not a reflection or a statement of mistrust in administration by any means yeah it i i agree that's all it's not a vote of you know the lack of confidence right right right the uh the conver you know to to to not vote in favor doesn't necessarily mean that you don't agree with what i've said yeah right and i i fully thank you yeah and that's good that you're giving people that latitude um reminding them of that yeah i just want to echo that because i feel that it has a lot more to do with one values more and i think that the public health is the most important thing to consider and one safety and just once again i think this back and forth and back and forth is very disruptive to staff and families and i think sometimes the quality of education could be somewhat diminished by this back and forth back and forth and while i want to see our students back in school they're our best natural resource that we have i don't think you can have education without good public health first and it's about the community as well thank you julian that was very good i'm so torn uh does somebody want to call a vote i think we've lost sherelle right she's gone i'd like to make a motion to accept the 10 percent number to for hybrid learning okay rick motions second i'll second that 10 seconds are we do we have uh so i appreciate the motion um but we want to make sure that we're also accepting the greater than 200 per 100 000 cases and that the um that the decisions based on a rolling average past the 14 days recorded each monday let me ju let me take my motion i accept everything that was proposed proposed today by administration so the the motion that the administration proposed rick if if you would like to amend your motion to be this is to set the community transmission threshold for operating the 2021 hybrid schedule in person at 10 positivity or 200 cases per 100 000 persons based on the most recent 14 day rolling average available at 3 pm each monday i can do that exactly and to be clear can i just i'm sorry i don't need to interrupt your motion but to clarify the 3 p.m monday is when the official number comes out from idph right it's in the afternoon it's in the afternoon frankly sometimes they post it friday night because i follow it but um sometimes it's saturday morning but that's because i because i get that question a lot why is it until monday and it's because that's when the official number comes out at some point and then you need some time to do just right get the information off the idph website and double check all of our our math so sorry for interrupting you rick but i just want to make oh that's okay yeah um i'd still since the motion just got on the floor i'd still like to make a um a discussion second to the amended motion mic seconds go ahead i seconded the n seconds i believe it was dan um i'm i'm not crazy about the the monday um notification i think that there should be some uh mechanism that the administration uses to give the teachers and maybe not our students per se as much as our teachers to know hey this is where we're headed you know i've got a feel for this so that they'll be prepared for that um i'm i always try to be uh open and transparent with our entire staff including our teachers and would absolutely intend on letting people know the direction the numbers are heading at the end of the week this is also the mechanics of where our metrics currently sit right in the first semester we only sat in the range that we're in now this nine to ten percent range for a couple of weeks it was either blew past it and it was clearly past these kinds of range or it sat well below it so i think we just happen to be in this time frame of we're coming back and we're in that same window of where those numbers sit i think is the further away from we get from the holidays here we may dip and stay below these numbers and it's very clear every week that we're we're here for in-person learning or that other variant could show up and become far more uh you know drive up our rates far quicker and then it'd be very clear that we're we're remote right it's just a nature of where we're sitting in this week and i know it's a tough decision to make for this week but because we are where we are and what our experience was in that first week it makes me as an educator that believes kids should be in school if it's safe to do so is i've told everybody for the last 10 months that i need to be here in front of the board to say look right now based on everything we as an administrative team know we think it's safe to have kids back next week you know uh to your point about the trend i would and this kind of speaks to terry i think you know um two things one weekend's reporting falls it it just does consistently since the start of the pandemic but the other thing is i've been giving a lot of thoughts to you know at some point we're going to be over this at some point we're going to be trending down down down down down down and i personally will have a lot more faith in raising positivity numbers whatever number whatever metrics we're looking at once we know we're consistently trending down over a period of time so tangential to what terry said i really would like to see us start following the percent change in new cases per 100 000 during the last seven days compared to the previous seven days because i think that will in the long run give us more information to help us make an informed decision but that's not a vote that's just a suggestion we'll definitely i'll i will discuss that number with the health experts and try to understand it a little better but the the vote is going to be on basically those three items and one of them is that number right no that's a different it's a different metric that we haven't discussed to this point the percentage adding adding to that right it would it would nancy would like for us to investigate that number and if i'm understanding correctly and correct how if that would be a better predictor of safety for us uh over the long term than the two metrics that we're using from the cdc right as recommended by the cdc right now and i think the motion says on monday but what i'm hearing is and i support that we would work towards looking at making that decision formally earlier than later but i don't know that we're you can really speak to that at this point right because you're you're changing the way you're gathering the metrics as we speak correct that fair assumption i mean the the here's the the challenge right is the numbers do change over the weekend and um yeah they do if i if i pick a if we i we pick uh or choose friday as the date because then it gives people more time to plan we are definitely by the time we come back the following tuesday relying on data this was dan and rick's concern last monday that is far outside of the window of concern for when students are returning yeah just cool no i mean i agree with them they've got a valid point i mean there's like no good solution to any of this so we move it to monday because we want to use the best data available to us but that increase that brings in a whole nother set of challenges so as an administrative team we talked about okay maybe we should pick the 14 day on friday and say if it's trending in the right direction then we're going to come back so everybody knows okay we could set it at 10 on friday and if it's trending down over the past seven days then we're going to be back on monday because we're pointed in the right direction we set it at 10 on friday and if it's trending up well then it's probably going to keep going up over the weekend and then we're not back that might be the like the best metric trend to look at and gives people a lot of time to more time to plan not a lot of time but more time to plan right yeah it probably points to the way that it definitely points to the direction that the data is going in however it isn't something that is super easy for somebody to just go and look at we can although we can work on our our dashboard to try to make that clear and apparent of you know explaining which way the line is pointing in on friday we'll play into things um you know and that is something we discussed on the administrative team we just didn't know what uh you know like we said earlier nancy pros and cons with all of this i would be comfortable with that uh and i would work with our team to make it as clear to everybody as possible if rick wanted to amend that that it would be based on the 10 positivity um does rick have to amend it or can any of us or he'd have to remove his motion and then put it back differently but you know if that was something that the board wanted to consider of setting it on on friday and setting the ten percent threshold i guess you'd have to we'd have to play with it a little bit because um you'd either say it's we'd have to play with it a little bit here and workshop it to figure it out yeah right now the the motion is for the uh 10 positivity or 200 cases per 100 based on the most recent 14 day rolling average that's available at three at 3 pm each monday we can amend that um i don't know if hank is ready to really it doesn't sound like at this moment in time can you confidently say do you feel confident in amending that hank or do you need more time before we we can always look at that as a separate motion so my point can we remove it to remove it you'd have to vote it down at this point or rick would have to take it off the table you know i guess my my big concern is consistency i really feel that we need to get the kids back in school but we need to be consistent about it we can't keep going one week this one week that one week this one week that it's got to be consistent i totally agree with you i agree with everything everybody said everything everybody said but i don't know if that's so much a factor of this happening at 3 p.m on monday as it is just the volatility of the numbers yes i i i understand that i but you know um this going back and forth isn't good for anybody we're even deterior you know everybody agrees with that you know but we're in a pandemic right now i mean it's unpredictable the kids going back and forth and nobody can guarantee that that will or won't happen and no matter what we do with our numbers um nobody can guarantee that will or won't happen the best thing we can all do is i think uh as a as a board as a community to stop um you know uh uh lamenting about it and and really kind of let's start talking about how we're all in this together and supporting each other and the you know and the difficulty that we have in working through this and i think that's you know so we had a presentation at our meeting last monday um you know talking about student supports and the things that we're doing and and we have to try to focus on that positive but i have i absolutely i'm 100 i agree with you i mean i i have a daughter here who's you know bouncing back and forth you know and i'm seeing it firsthand i i get it i totally get it but you know we talk about here is you know it's one week at a time and and we can get thing get through this thing together and what can what can we do as parents to support our students in this and and uh you know it's a tough it's a tough time for the country but it's time for everyone to come together as one you know and and that's where we are right now so i um i don't know i i think rick are you going to pull the question back or you want to call it i want to call a vote so question question on that so we don't need to change the the the vote or we don't need to change the resolution for hank to tell us that he's going to let the teachers know on friday what the trending looks like no that's just my practice yeah i will definitely do that uh i would have done it regardless of what we talked about today i want people to know what to plan for okay so so you can tell us right now that if we move forward with this that you will let the teachers know on fridays what it's looking like for next week and it may be too close to call but you'll let them know well this is if if this resolution passes i'll have to let them know this afternoon that it looks like we'll be back on monday the way that the numbers are trending but we'll know for sure on i mean we'll be exactly in that scenario today okay right so we don't have to change we don't have to change the motion for that to happen no that'll just be my practice thank you yeah and we can come together again too um to amend this once again um if need be i mean i you know hey we need to be nimble um i know everybody wants consistency that sort of thing but uh everything keeps changing and we've got to be willing to change with it and so i think we've heard some good things today a suggestion from nancy you know i i you know i i like what's being suggested i like the idea that hank would go back and talk to the staff to his team uh about how we might further refine this um and make it even better um that's i'm fully supported that but i think i'm i still support what what we're talking about doing right now um at this meeting uh this morning and one of the things we're going to talk about at our next meeting which is a week from monday because we rick had brought up before and in all the discussion frankly i lost it last last time we met was uh setting up a standard weekly meeting that could be canceled at any time but you know we have to put a public notice blah blah blah so one of the things we'll be talking about at our next meeting is setting that up and what that means for people and are willing are people willing to do that etc so so that we can act more quickly more easily i i will also point back to something i said earlier that i don't want to get lost i don't think this will be the normal i think we'll either it's just a weird time where we're sitting right around this threshold and you know in our experiences within this threshold i i think we will quickly fall back down below it and it'll be very clear week to week that we're in person or will rapidly pass beyond it and it'll be very clear that we should be remote because we're outside of that 10 range where we as an administration based on the guidelines based on our experience feel that it's safe to have students at school it's just the weird spot where we're in today on this day so are we back to the vote yes terry did you have anything else you wanted to change or add well i'm just i'm just saying that if we want to take out that last part we need to vote this down and make a new um motion without it you wanted it to not be at 3 pm on monday yes the the motion on the table is as of 3 p.m on on monday terry would you be more would you be more comfortable if it said no later than 3 pm on each monday yeah i suppose but you know just taking it out all together um in this motion and then we can discuss you know making a separate motion for that does that make sense no it doesn't no no why not no i'm not following what you're trying to what's your what's your end goal my end goal is is to say we need to make a tentative decision on friday rather than on monday oh okay so you want it based on the data the 14 day rolling average available on friday instead can i make a suggestion here could we just have two motions one talking about the rate the ten percent positivity and then a separate motion related to when it when it when it will the decision will be made that's up direct right he made the motions there's a motion that's been seconded on the table all right so let's vote rick that's why i'm saying you got to vote this down and then we can do another one right you got to vote it down so that no yes i agree but i like nancy's suggestion of changing the word verbiage did no later than 3 p.m on monday that gives hank flexibility ability and yeah i'm seeing rick not his head so i i would suggest that you amend the motion once again to do that and then i i can definitely amend it to the to that wording because that gives hank a little bit more flexibility so to be clear then the motion on the floor is for the board of education to set the community transmission threshold for operating the 2021 hybrid schedule in prison at 10 positivity or 200 cases per hundred thousand persons based on the most recent 14 day rolling average no later than 3 pm each monday available no later than 3 p.m each monday available i'm in favor of that okay dan dan agree to that i agree okay we're going to call the vote okay rick ruth cavanado hi dan nicholas hi barry pavich nay joanna vazquez drexler mike davenport aye shaw fuller is absent is that correct yeah okay and nancy kupka no so we are three three that means it does not pass it does not pass we will put it on the agenda again for next monday um unless somebody wants to make another motion now then somebody must make another emotion now yes i move that we do the 10 positivity rate that's it so you're you're if i'm understanding what you're asking for to set the community transmission threshold for operating the 2021 hybrid schedule in person at a 10 positivity rate or 200 cases per 100 000 persons based on the most recent 14 day rolling average available or the way we have it now would be for the friday prior to the next week of instruction yes hi second terry mike thank you terry pavich aye mike davenport aye dan nicholas aye rick pavonato aye joanna vazquez drexler no nancy kupka no the motion however does carry okay so can we just talk about the thank you board can i just tell you about the logistic piece the challenge that we're in now is that it may not be until monday this week that i have that number okay so i understand our staff still my our staffing community won't know until monday because i need i need northwestern to update their data because i don't have enough data yet to know what mon friday's 14 day average was right until they update that number but we're still operating under so we're still operating under the uh hybrid model the nine percent in the 150 right i mean you'd still you'd still be using that to make determination for this coming week then ten percent and 150.
dane stevenson who's going to make a three horn takes it down court for the bulldogs and sam king's gonna try a three from the corner his shot good and with mooresville staying in this zone pressure looking for north to get a bunch of three-point shots uh north is a team that usually shoots the ball great and hopefully they're looking to have that result as well here tonight and if i'm mooresville kyle i think i'm gonna go man defense knowing how many shooters the bulldogs have on offense yeah i definitely think they'll probably change it up here but we'll see how they go if they get a bucket here and they do with the two-point lay-up and then again it's only a four-point game rhys harmon quick back the other way gets it to horn in the corner horn's gonna drive and kick out to king from three christina's got it he's going to go back to king at the top king to harmon harmon's going to try a three his shot is good and there's the timeout that fans at home are probably looking for as north has 16 points and we're only four or four minutes five minutes into the first quarter of play here north got off to a heart hot start there led by a cooper horn who has seven points so far yeah north in the last few games hasn't shot uh extremely well in the first half of play but obviously things are changing up here a little bit different as they already have a few three-pointers yeah it looks like shooting might have been a point of emphasis at practice this week kyle they are coming out hot we'll see if mooresville their head coach bob carter 18th year here maybe he's looking to change it up here or just throw the bulldogs off [Music] and after the timeout we have about two and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter north dropping back into three quarters pressure here zach woodson has the ball for the pioneers he's going to try down under but it looks like the ball is going to be lost and there's a scramble for it and harmon comes down with it for the bulldogs blake barker's taking it the other way barker's got it up top for the bulldogs king finds harmon underneath harmon works in the post kicks back out to king king's going to go down under trucina and tricina is going to lose hold of it it'll be mooresville basketball the other way that's a good look by sam king and jake entertainment they connected there that's unable to grab the pass maybe trying to do a little too much there but regardless mooresville will inbound the ball here [Music] and zach woodson is going to put up a three for mooresville columbus north quick back the other way harmon's going to drive right put up a layup this shot no good that's a good take uh throughout the game you want to see reese keep uh taking those balls to the basket they will eventually start to fall there number 35 luke fowler is working on blake barker in the post he's going to get that one horns working this the screen off of king one minute remaining here in the first quarter as predicted mortis village drops back into a man-to-man defense barker's got it up top he's gonna hit king king gets it back to barker on the wing morrisville's making it very difficult for columbus north to get any shots from within the arc i think this is a good long possession for north they're trying to use as much clock as they can here again and get an excellent shot parker's going to work the spin and get the and one on the layup he'll head to the line yeah north took about 45 seconds a clock off there and that's just a good play they will possibly get three points after the end of this one and max wilson has checked in for sam king as barker heads to the line he comes into tonight's matchup shooting 60 from the line and barker's gonna miss that one and the pioneers will take it the other way with 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter and morrisville here probably looking for the final shot with only 20 ticks left in the first quarter only down by four so one able to go into the second quarter with a one possession score and they get a foul and that is number five gavin rodgers who will head to the free-throw line for the pioneers an interesting tactic there most high school teams throughout the state tend to want to hold it for the final shot but not more so here they saw an open lane i went ahead and took the basket didn't make it were able to get fouled and rogers is going to miss that first free throw as number 44 nick wiley checks in and trusina gets the board for the dogs and 0 for 2 there from the line not good for mooresville there they're definitely looking to get some points there since they didn't go for the last second shot and tristina is going to find horn underneath and cooper horn will lay it in for his ninth point of the game as the first quarter ends and yeah not what mooresville was looking for there they could have gone into the end of the quarter with a two-point deficit but now they're going in with a six-point deficit and north 20 points in the first quarter that's definitely shooting well [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and after a quarter of play cooper horn leads all scorers with nine points reese harmon's not too far behind him with six hey blake barker set to inbound here for the bulldogs wilson has it in the corner he's going to get to harmon up top harmon's going to try a three his shot no good cooper horn's going to get the offensive rebound though and blake barker is going to put up his own three and that shot is good good offensive rebound there by horn to make that play possible [Music] and that's when blake barker once back he saw the frustration from there an errant pass by the pioneers and blake just unable to hold on to that one but regardless north gets a deflection and makes mooresville restart their offense and this is gavin rogers working on cooper horn gets it to dane stevenson he's going to lose the ball blake parker is going to take it the other way get it to wilson wilson's going to put up a shot it's good that's wilson's first bucket of the game i would think that north poly has eight to ten points off mooresville's turnovers definitely winning that battle so far it looks like columbus north might be playing at a bit faster pace than mooresville is used to playing kyle yeah i'd say north's definitely come out a little bit quicker than they did against their last contest against terre haute north when they only won by one point but north playing some good defense here to start and that bucket was made by number three zach woodson horn's got it for the bulldogs he's gonna get to truecena in the corner he's gonna try three his shot no good the boards are gonna go to luke fowler back the other way looks like a bit of a size mismatch there with number 35 luke fowler guarded by cooper horn that's good work by rhys harmon an excellent defender for the bulldogs able to deflect that ball out of bounds get the kickball violation but if they were to feed that ball down there definitely a mismatch as we talked about and that would not have ended well for the bulldogs yeah if you look at mooresville kyle they have the clear advantage in terms of size and height you think they might want to make more use of that here as the game [Applause] progresses and the bulldogs looking to make something happen trussina is going to find horn underneath and cooper horn will lay that in excellent cut by horn even better pass from chucina they're able to find him down low and extend this lead to nine and it seems like cooper horn has six or eight points off layups alone yeah definitely he's been making some excellent cuts so he's getting defenders going the other way and just able to back door them easily and that is number 12 ding ding subbing in for jacob trusina and mooresville will inbound here with five minutes and 30 seconds left in the second quarter north dropping back there pressure here going just man the man defense at the half court zach woodson has it he's going to get it to mike mcgrowan [Applause] another good excellent play by cooper able to come down there and dig the ball out of uh number 35 luke fowler's hands there seems like this might be one of the cooper horns best half of basketball so far this season kyle he's been playing great yeah he's done an excellent job on both offense and defense to start and moorsville is going to miss that shot harmon will get the rebound for the bulldogs horn's going to try three his shot no good moorsville gets the board they're headed back the other way gavin rodgers works the layup but it is blocked by number 20 cooper horn excellent block from there lots of times you see those fast breaks just end in a defensive foul there but not there as cooper is able to keep his hands straight up and just block the shot right out yeah horn's definitely getting it done on both sides of the ball so far tonight and ding ding will deflect that one out as well it's got to be like north sixth or seventh deflection just making moreso restart their offenses multiple times and cause them to just redo everything and just it's tough for them obviously yeah kyle i really think mooresville just needs to slow down and control the ball they have not been able to do that so far barker's going to get to wilson up top wilson finds horn on the left side underneath to harmon but the pass is deflected bulldogs will keep possession harman's going to get the ball to barker underneath barker's going to put up a shot and he'll be fouled he'll head to the free throw line that's a good read by uh rhys harmon there most of the defenders weren't aware gave reese ball right away just threw it right up to blake parker he knew he'd be able to out jump his defender there and he was and was able to foul and shoot two at the line here and barker's gonna miss that one barker unable to connect on those free throws and mooresville will take it back the other way four and a half minutes remaining the bulldog lead is seven miles mcgowan underneath works on blake barker can't get a shot kicks it out number 35 luke fowler took a three and he missed harmon got the board took it the other way wilson's gonna try three from the corner looks like the defender might have got a hand on that one and marzo will take it back the other way and that is number three zach woodson with the and one layout that's an excellent finish there by mooresville able to make greece go the other way and finish underneath with the right hand just draw that in one basket here and zach woodson's gonna miss that one barker will get the rebound for the bulldogs harmon's got in the corner up top he's gonna shot fake get it to wilson wilson the horn in the corner and coach paul ferguson will use one of his timeouts here columbus north has the lead by five with three minutes and 45 seconds remaining in the first half [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] and blake barker's gonna inbound the ball to harmon wilson has it up top he's going to get to reese harmon on the left side harmon's going to try to feed horned underneath and looks like he's going to lose that one mooresville will take it the other way that's a good seal by cooper got his uh defender sealed out he had the bottom side of the block wide open just unable to feed it to him down low and columbus north back to their full court press as number three zach woodson is going to miss a three-point shot for the pioneers harman's going to take it the other way get it to barker underneath then blake barker is going to put up an impressive layup he'll head to the free-throw line on that one and sam king and jacob trusina have checked in for cooper horn and ding ding barker has one shot here he'll knock that one down [Applause] [Music] woodson has it for the pioneers gets it to rogers and wilson deflects the ball but mooresville recovers on the other side number 11 dane stevenson is going to knock down a three-pointer for morrisville that was an odd situation there where the deflection actually worked against the bulldogs there as it kind of mooresville was able to beat them off the dribble and uh get an open three-point look there and sam king got up a shot tried to get the rebound and hit it out of bounds so marsville will take it the other direction stevenson's going to put up another three this one no good number 15 max wilson gets the board king underneath puts up a layup and he'll be fouled and won king will head to the free throw line on a potential three-point play that's an excellent work to just keep pushing the ball up the court just keep pushing throughout the game sam able to do a good move there and kind of box out his defender and draw on n1 and king comes into tonight's game shooting 80 from the line he's gonna knock that one down as well and woodson has it up top for the pioneers he's going to get to luke fowler who's going to go underneath to number 42 miles mcgowan but he's not going to be able to knock that one down back the other way blake barker has it for the bulldogs gets it to tracina up top christina to harmon on the left right side parker's gonna try three his shot no good rebound goes to miles mcgowan and we got two minutes left here in the first half north remaining in their man defense they're going to get it underneath in the post mcgowan's going to try and move on barker and he'll be able to knock that one down shortens the bulldog lead to six points here with a minute and a half remaining in the first half and that's definitely a matchup to watch throughout the rest of the game mcgowan versus sparker down there barker so far has done a pretty good job of uh securing him and not allowing him to score barker's got an open three on the right side barely misses that one the pioneers are going to take it the other way number 35 luke fowler has it guarded by sam king he's going to work in the post on king put up a shot no good rhys harmon will get the rebound that's a tough shot especially at sam king six foot five defender having both hands over his head there and max wilson put up a shot but it was no good i do not believe a foul was called so the bulldogs will take the ball out of bounds underneath their own basket wilson looks a bit shaken up after that one a minute remaining here wilson has it up top gonna get it to harmon harmon to barker underneath barker back out to king king for the three his shot no good max wilson is going to get the offensive rebound [Applause] and barker's going to try three no good mooresville is going to get the board to take it the other way that we're two good looks by the bulldogs one from king one from barker both were the shots stepping into him from feeds in the paint but just unable to convert both of those three point shots and harmon's gonna be called for the foul there 20 seconds remaining in the first half of action here [Music] harmon will check out and cooper horn will come into the game [Music] moorsville has the ball here 21 seconds i would think they would go for the last shot and they don't want north to extend their lead at all so morsel can either walk out of the situation with a six point deficit or even a three point or a four point deficit if they're able to get a basket here gavin rodgers is set to inbound for the pioneers gets it to zach woodson up top woodson's guarded by true cena fowler has it guarded by king 10 seconds remaining stevenson up top he's going to drive get to woodson woodson's going to put up a three but it is too late good defense there by the bulldogs and the three-point shot from zach woodson was no good and the dogs will go into the half with a 33-27 lead [Music] and welcome back to memorial gymnasium where columbus north has the lead on mooresville 33-27 checking the box score from the first half blake barker has eight points rhys harmon has six points cooper horn has 11 points max wilson has two and sam king has six and for the pioneers zach woodson the seventh dane stevenson the six luke fowler with six and miles mcgowan with eight we got about two minutes until the second half begins stay tuned here on bcsc youtube [Music] and with the second half of basketball almost underway here we have a close one columbus north has the lead over mooresville 33 to 27.
uh the other two are very low or lower much lower um i'm an active listener i'm a good note taker but like michelle said definitely have some of the same struggles um with perfectionism if i notice something's wrong on board docs i definitely let them know like hey i noticed this and uh maybe i should not be as much like that uh i'm definitely a little more sensitive a lot more this year like amy said with social media you read what people are saying and definitely uh that can be a struggle for me um i like how our team and i'll extend this even to the cabinet always checks in with us because they know that we're getting a lot of the negative feedback and they're just always especially sherry i i'm shocked that she's not considerate because she always asks me how's it going how are you feeling so i do appreciate that so thank you thank you so did i miss anybody i like i said i only have four pictures at a time so i wasn't sure if i scrolled past okay well we're going to move to the next page where you probably already at but your team members style i just want to have a little bit of a conversation first what are we noticing anybody can unmute what are some things that you noticed as we we started marking down people's um styles we have a lot of considerate people have a lot of considerate people and a lot of systematic people yes i don't know how your other board member i know we have one board member that's not president so i would love for you to offer this to her and um let her let her go watch online if it's still up online for her to watch and see if she can gain something from that but from what i'm seeing right now you only have one board member that is direct and spirited so that's going to be a little bit of a gap for you because as we said all of the roles are needed um so if uh you know you have one board member spirited people remember also one that keeps the energy and keeps the ideas you know generating and if everyone else is kind of stuck in the system and and they're you know don't want to hurt people's feelings and they don't want to get hurt um you know she's going to get tired of trying to get everybody excited about you know the work uh and conversely tiffany you know when you're working with a whole bunch of considerate those things are gonna feel even more so because what do we do when we start feeling something um we go check and verify right we go to our friend with somebody else like am i wrong to think this right exactly yes they tell you what you want to hear especially if they're also considerate because they see the thing the same way so um it's going to be important for people uh to realize that you do have a a pretty big gap in in uh in terms of the natural and remember these are your natural personalities your roles are going to be a little bit different because like i said before when i'm in a space consider it's also one of my lowers i think it was like around the 17 too but when that is missing you will find that your other things kick up some um for example when i'm at home um i'm uh my my husband is um is a systematic um that's probably his primary would consider it secondarily but uh not a really lovey-dovey didn't come from that type of family and so when i'm at home i'm the one that's intuitive with everybody's feelings and ask you know how that that's going and stuff like that so um you can flip if it's absent does that make sense to some of you some of you i see are shaking their heads like when you're in certain situations you'll notice your other skill set pop up because it's not it's missing um and you might have already seen that on the board like maybe you don't consider yourself a direct person at all but you have enough of it in you that when you see things it's just spinning and nobody's going forward you'll speak up um and so that's really important because what we're going to do in this next section is to to think about just that so just like we did 10 minutes of reflection just on our own and what we learned um we have the the team reflection and action planning so what did the team style profile reveal about your team do you have an even distribution of styles we kind of already talked a little bit about that how does your team take advantage of its style strengths reflect on that i mean one thing that i can clearly see just getting to know you all is um the first thing that you all said is we all collaborate we all talk a lot and that's that makes perfect sense given how many considerate folks you have on your team and that's that's fantastic what are some of the challenges that are created with uh in that dynamic and what are some of the actions that you can do so this is where you're going to talk about yourself to help each other balance these trouble spots what are something that you see that's maybe missing because that goes into the fifth one of descriptions of the tasks and maintenance roles what are some things that you're seeing on your team whether it's on the board team now or on an administrative team and then this team as a collective that you could see yourself helping in that you could step up and do a little bit more of or something that you're currently doing that you feel is a really good spot for you so just give yourself some time again you may not have answers to all of these questions um right now but i want to give you about 10 minutes to um to jot some stuff down and then we're gonna do another quick share out before we wrap up for the day about five more minutes nikki i think this is really interesting to do um coming in from january with two new board members because the change of the dynamic has so changed um before we had some i think that we're a little more spirited in areas or direct in areas so it's a little different to come into this i think being that we haven't even like fully met yeah um and it is new i mean but it's good to do it early so you kind of know what you're you know in going in um but i also think it's so important because uh what we our kind of motto at asba is one new team member makes a new team right 100 so i feel like this is a brand new team and i'm like well we might all morph a little bit because when i filled out you know the scoring i thought of more the old team because i don't know the new team um so i thought it was really interesting i totally agree doing it early is great but just something you could you could do again you could do it again in two years when maybe or maybe not you have other team members or you know maybe everybody's the same but like you said you're you uh you're you stepped up or you act you you behaved a little bit differently than you would have thought you would have in in the team i think this really helps me nikki coming in because it's not that i um as to not offend and work well and better as a team knowing the different personalities as i as i come into it it's it's very helpful great i'm glad that you are finding some some benefit out of it i really am and like i said it's simple you know you're not going to get you know seven paragraphs about your innermost workings uh like you do with some of the the strength finders and the other personality types but uh it's it's simple and it it gives you enough information to to put your best foot forward in a team situation so i have um just two more minutes we'll give people just a couple more minutes and then we'll do the same thing i'll probably only give you about a minute or so to a minute minute and a half to share your thoughts as a team of um where and i think we'll focus on the positive we'll focus on um where you think you would be of of benefits and where you think you can where you're going to focus your attention on question number three what ways can i improve my performance knowing what you know now of the team and what you know about yourself just you know i'd like to hear a little bit about um a what you think you can bring to the team what roles and when you're looking at that tasks those task roles and um innovator evaluator energizer um where you think you might be a good fit and then something that you personally feel like you're going to work on in order to be a better team member so and real quick i'm going to go back to those task roles here so remembering that the initiator is somebody that makes sure that they get the discussion started started and help us tackle some of the more difficult issues um coordinator making sure that people and projects are getting done so if there's things that the board needs to do uh making sure that those things don't fall down the crack cracks watching the calendar making sure you make the most out of of your agendas evaluator asking questions and measuring progress so looking at that data following up you know a lot of times some of us i can say from my point of view we did it it's done and then you know forgetting to go back and look at what got done um the completer follows through with the details uh again you know a lot of times that might be a little bit more difficult in in the board member role because you will not be following through so you know understanding kind of where that lends you in terms of your your desire to do that role gatekeeper uh getting people involved um this is a good skill for a board president to have um as is harmonizer mediating between conflicting parties um all of these really i mean a good leader can come from any of these perspectives but depending on what the current need of the board is um and then energizer keeping spirits high and motivation high you know especially things something like now where people can get feel pretty beat down um that might be a good skill to have on a team and then the encourager you know not just focusing on what's broken or what needs to be fixed or where we need to improve but recognizing the progress that's been made and the things that are going well also very important so with that i'm going to start at the top here and i'm going to go with jill do you i'm going to take the timer off give you a little over a minute just to share your thoughts now that we've gone through the team and where you think that leaves you yeah i think i could step up and be a more of an initiator or a completer both of those roles i could do well um like i said before the team dynamic has changed a little we have a new team um so i think it's going to be more feeling it out and seeing where everybody is once you get up there because i thought going into this two years ago i would be in a much different place more direct than i ever have been but i've taken more of a compassionate or considerate role than i was maybe going up on the dice so great thank you thank you i'm shauna um i feel our admin team right now is phenomenal and i think we're a good group of people with a lot of really good strengths um and we did the profile um i i feel like our team is really good at taking into consideration the feelings of all of the people that we represent and and really spending a good amount of time on why while we know what we need to do how does what we need to do fit into all of the different subgroups of people that we're making decisions for and really thinking about their thoughts and feelings um and i feel like our teachers and stuff would say that as well um as far as what i can bring to the team i just am just so grateful to be part of the team because i think a lot of times they bring more to me than i bring to them just on what i learn listening to the thought process and the collaboration piece um just makes me a better leader so i'm curious to see what everyone else says about our team but that's kind of how i feel great thank you i'm tiffany so being that this is a new role i am a initiator and a coordinator by um trait but i think at the beginning i i would like to be more of an evaluator and and uh ask questions and listen because i am new to this and i don't i also don't like to overstep um my boundaries either so um i am not good at a completer so i would um defer to another team member to be better at the completer but as you mentioned we aren't um the ones that are in the details as much on the board as well great thank you sorry my husband's making noise it's fine uh i was glad it was on me my dogs got all excited when my family got home so um let's go with dawn there we go um boy i have to echo what shauna said i loved hearing everyone's perspective here and when i think about the district admin team i look at it so we're a very little balanced group and then i look at hearing with our our amazing governing board our extended you know you know community district leadership team i look at such potential and opportunities we have together through this and i'm just i think i like something that you said about that as we work continue the more we know about each other and situations to present themselves that other traits may begin to uh you know that may not have been our are dominant but that we sort of step up to fill that need because i think awareness of it allows us to be real thoughtful in what we do and how we do it together and going back to our priority i mean we as a team uh need to make sure that that we do what we do for students because we support the adults and system that allow us to make sure that that happens and a functional team a balanced team that supports each other is how we do that um and i tell you i could not be more proud of our team and how we've come together through some really difficult things and i think the difficult things in some instances of how we've um even helped grow each other through this and so i just i really appreciate this opportunity to kind of really truly hear where people are uh personally i think uh continuing to be that coordinator that gatekeeper and harmonizer to help organize where we are and how we move forward together on both sides of our strengths and our needs um because our community will be very direct and spirited with us too on needs as we continue to navigate this together thank you dawn um michael so so i think just reflecting um a little bit one of the things that that they always say is the first step towards recovery is identifying the problem and i think for us i think just reframing and and looking at the roles and the tasks um from this perspective is probably um really beneficial um not just for internal reflection but then also you know working with and understanding your team members and um certainly there's um not been a better environment than the one that we're in right now to to to really kind of test those relationships and those roles and so um i just see see this uh feedback um enhancing what we're able to do and just even to be able to do it better so for my personal um tasks just looking at the the roles that are kind of naturally my roles and certainly do those well which is probably more coordinator completer but then i'm just challenged to to look within our team and see where there's needs and if if an initiator or energizer encourager is needed then to kind of stretch myself and uh and maybe go a little bit outside my comfort zone and and just help what's what's needed maybe be a little bit more situational depending on what the the need is for the team but um i do echo what other team members have said and uh you know it's it's a great team to work with thank you michelle um looking at the profile um looks like we're pretty evenly distributed for considerate and systematic for the top totals um i just i guess i go forward to hereby nominate david as the director of energizing and being director of enthusiasm because he's over there um which is good but which comes down to the bottom what challenges will that create is one or two people can't carry the team um david can't always rally and tiffany and shauna should not always be the ones to ask the tough questions and raise the difficult topics at hand um and so and then possibly do all the work so it's just some things to to think about um as we all kind of get ourselves into some tough times and we're going to get tired and worn out just to make sure we're not abusing those these um hot these top these um areas that only a couple people fall in and as far as the strengths goes for that you know we have a lot of people that are focused on getting the job done um those two couple of shapes as you will um and then i guess um what actions can you take to help each other balance these trouble spots let's just let's just stay focused on the topics of at hand let's focus on why we're here thank you so much i appreciate it i'm david i think one thing that i've that i've appreciated looking at at these different how people have responded stuff is the fact that i think that we're genuine people and i think that's really important as we move forward and it's okay for us to be in a certain spirited or considerate way it's okay that's where we're at as long as we're genuine i think to what we do and how we react to people and that in that you know it's okay it's okay i think when as we look through some of the situations we're dealing with especially with you know the conflict that it's all right for us to go back to our strengths and i think sometimes and and as i reflect on it i you know as i wish i were more organized or i wished i were more direct in certain situations to come back and think but i need to play under my strengths to be able to help the team and how we can coordinate together it's interesting to me some of the reflection i think and some of the tasks when we when we look at what our role is you know in in terms of being the initiative perhaps you know and and don's put in that situation so much more as the boss right and and but how we can respond and support uh to her you know um i am i am grateful the fact that i believe that we are here to support each other and and i hear about other teams and other situations where the individual is more important than the team and i hope that for us that we never get to that point where it's more about what we feel and what we're doing as opposed what the team is doing as a collective and and and i think that that's something we have to focus on and continue to work with how how do we make sure that we're working as this team and as this group together and it's not about honestly it's not about the board getting glory or the superintendent getting glory or the opposite the superintendent getting killed or the board getting killed it's about us presenting this fact that we are going to work together we are diverse and now we know a little bit more about how diverse we are right but that can we continue to support each other within our roles to make sure we do the best thing for our kiddos thank you david and i'm just before i go to mom and amy um i've also heard and this is not part of their official curriculum but in the different um strength finders and uh true colors and all those other ones that we've done um the idea and maybe that this is just my thinking but um sometimes i feel like in times of high stress we will revert to our least likely ones i don't know if that makes sense for anybody else but i'll give you an example with me being spirited and direct when i'm really upset or if i'm really stressed i will become very quiet and very sensitive and very much want to control things want to like come up with the plan all right now we're going to do x y and z um and you know um so sometimes we do the opposite right when when we're pushed to a point um so that's something to consider too um when you flip it like how am i when i'm under stress am i still super considerate or do i become very direct um and so just think just some food for thought um all right i'm gonna let amy close this out so let me go to mom i think i just have to echo what many of you said um you know i like what you've said david in regards to the fact that you know we are a team and thinking about everybody and going back to what many of you said from the very beginning we're all here and we're all in education um because of students and whether it's helping them directly or indirectly through our employees through our community or through working with them um on projects or them having a voice in other areas where you know going back to assume positive intent um we're all here because we want to be here for the success of our students and how that plays within our community in the bigger picture and we all have different roles in which we present and um view that but making sure that we're listening to one another and staying on track for our end goal in the bigger picture so um you know i think everyone's kind of said different things that i think is helpful i don't have to go into more detail with that but just always remembering that we're all here for good reasons and why we got involved whether it's volunteering on the board and running and taking the time of your schedule or to us as administration and making sure that we make the right decisions and choices and listening to everybody and doing the best we can because we always just try to make the best decisions that we can in the moment with the information that we have um knowing that there are polar opposites and everything between um but what's best for all in the bigger picture great thank you mom all right jill you want to round us out amy amy i'm sorry amy if it's okay um i just want to say like and many many of this many of my team members know 2019 was a terrible year for me on an emotional side because i lost my mom to alzheimer's and i just it was like the worst year and then 2020 said here hold my beer because in education and as a school board president it is by far been the hardest year emotionally of my life and i can't imagine doing it with anybody else than who's on this team so i just want to say i mean dr foley has been such a spearhead in our team and just she's in the detail she's in the processes and the procedures and that has been something we are so thankful for and mom and hr just handling all those stories i mean there's just so many every this whole year of cobit it's she's just handled it with such grace and kindness and i've seen sherry and david work together they are a fun team i sherry i just think you were you are so kind and compassionate i don't know if you see that in yourself but um and david the life of the party we appreciate that we need that i hope i can do more of that because that's not my go-to um i would say i'm more of an encourager like jill and um i look forward to getting to know tiffany and michelle better and see how they play out on our board but i just i think this is the greatest team that we've had in higley that i've seen in many many years and so i am just really grateful to get to know you all better today oh well that was a nice thing to end on then um so again and like david said i think the genuine of these people it's apparent it shows so thank you well i am glad to have been here to work with this team that so very much wants to do what's best for their community and is working really hard to be good team members to each other so i applaud you um with the roles and responsibilities and the eight characteristics i know you're working at those as well so i would encourage you to continue to do that continue to focus on your development on what you've already shown a commitment to in terms of this workbook i do want to remind you um bring it out bring it out in six months maybe even schedule a study session check-in to say hey how do we feel about this anybody wanna you know talk about how they've changed or grown or things that they're feeling i mean it might be a good opportunity to do that i'd be welcome to facilitate that or i'd love to see nikki are you are you doing our training on the 30th or is that julie i think that might be julie um communication protocols yeah okay so um yeah fun to see her now after spending the morning with you so yes well i will say that you know you get the whole package we we really are um the yin and yang we have different strengths and um and i think it's it's been really a pleasure to work with her and i love when um our teams are just get a chance to work with both of us because we do bring different things so um and um with that i just want to thank you for your time we are going to be doing it for your turn please that's nice i'm about a half hour early i will be following this up with an email with a survey if you all would be so kind as to complete that and um i will unless there's any questions um i will turn it back over to you to con um i think i left somebody out mike dr fowler i've seen you grow so much this past year in your role because he he's had a tough year and i think him and i can commiserate together a lot on um just the covid so i i didn't mean to leave you out there dr fowler okay any other questions or comments from anybody i'll open it up for just a moment just a just a big thank you for everybody in your time this morning nikki this was such a fabulous way for us to start as a new team thank you for this uh and and to our governing board we are so grateful and appreciative of you and all that you do uh thank you great thank you thank you anyone else just uh thanks again to uh to to our board i mean it's so great to work with a supportive board um i've been in places where that hasn't always been the case and so thank you um because especially this year i know that um it seems like it doesn't matter what you do and you're going to be criticized but we really appreciate your support it goes a long long way yes it does thank you dr fowler and shauna too in our in our special ed department just navigating special ed in a pandemic has been nothing but difficult so i really appreciate all the hard work i've seen it first hand okay with that uh board members i move that we adjourn second all those in favor aye aye motion carries 4-0 have a wonderful saturday everybody thank you everyone thank you thank you enjoy the long weekend yes mondays off enjoy you all deserve it you
so the issue is just notified when that decision will be available it won't be available friday it will be available monday just because of how this the date that the decision fell that's what i'm understanding well i'm talking about what's going to happen this coming week am i i'm not following some so and it looks it looks like according to northwestern dashboard hasn't been updated for friday yet the 14-day average is 9.62 with the seven-day average at like 8.25 so unless there are some dramatic changes which there weren't yesterday when you looked at the testing number we will most likely most likely be in school next week correct our most recent available number for friday is uh under 10. now is it it's not friday it's a holiday is that going to be a problem yeah i i don't know i i don't know how the metrics will get reported i guess what we would have to do is if you're concerned about that we we'd have to how did we read the motion did we say available on friday julie can you i don't think so julie you said no later you did not do a time on friday no so did we say the most recent available rolling average available on friday i i'm sorry i i don't didn't have the exact i don't i don't think we did today i don't think you said it that way no um i think we need to delineate that uh whether it's friday's data or the data that's available on friday and i i know it sounds weird but it is a huge difference right because i can't control the rate in which data is reported to me so if i if it is friday's data i might not have that until tuesday this week because of the holiday um i i think it needs to say the same language that i brought before which is available on friday um because otherwise it does nothing to to meet the concerns that we had that people would know is going on um so it's got to be like available to me at 3 p.m on friday or you know sometime so that i know when to go whatever date is available to me that i draw upon that at that time and if it's like thursday's data is the most recent data available to me at that time that i'm going to use thursday's data if it's fridays it's fridays but i don't want to end up in a spot where we're at right now if i have to rely on friday's data and i might not get it until sometime next week it does nobody any good and we end up worse off than than we ever have been to this point so can we just make it best available so do we need to make another motion yeah because we've already voted now so we need a motion to use uh the 14-day average veil average data available as of either 3 p.m friday or available by the end of the workday friday whatever you want me to say at noon friday uh most can you say most recent data yes the most recent 14-day average available by 5 p.m friday december or not for free i'm sorry for the week knowing what's going to happen the next week yeah so what three o'clock yeah three o'clock is good because we always like to send the message out um before people go or as people are going home because then uh it's either then or be the middle of the day we try not to disrupt the flow of class periods and if we're releasing that information at 3 pm it will definitely disrupt what's going on in classrooms so it's either the middle of the day at noon or it's the end of the day at three gives us the time frame to communicate that out and not disrupt learning that's going on because as you could imagine this would likely become a conversation point so so moved for 3 p.m so what exactly is the motion i'm going to read a motion you tell me if you think this is correct terry is moving to set the the time the data will be retrieved and decisions will be made for the next week based on the most recent 14-day rolling average available at 3 p.m each friday and that is without language related to positivity or the rate correct that would just be setting the official time in which we would use data and draw data i'll second that research yes rick cavanado yes joanna vazquez drexler yes mike davenport yes joel fuller i'm sorry dan nicholas yes nancy kupka yes the motion carries so to put it together so that everybody is clear of between the two motions what we have just decided just so everybody's clear and everybody knows in the community and then we can communicate it out to everybody is that we have set the community transmission threshold for operating the 2021 school hybrid schedule in person at a 10 positivity or 200 cases per 100 000 persons based on the most recent 14-day rolling average available at 3 p.m each friday correct but that is as two motions because i do not want i do not support the ten yeah but no i don't but i mean effectively one effectively yes yes so the one voice of the board between those two actions is what i just read and based on that we will be returning to school for in-person learning next uh monday because my most recent available 14-day rolling average as of 3 p.m last friday has us below 10.
mooresville will take possession first to start the second half woodson has it for the pioneers [Music] north starting out and man the man here mcgowan has it guarded by king gets it to woodson woodson drives and loses the ball mooresville will recover and amore's little turnover will lead to jacob trusina taking it the other way for the bulldogs sloppy possession for uh mooresville to start off the second half and king dribbles looks gets it to horn horn back to king king underneath puts up a layup his shot no good he's going to get his own rebound and put it right back up he's going to miss that one as well number 42 miles mcgowan with the rebound for mooresville and underneath is luke fowler who was fouled by number 24 sam king morrisville is hoping to get some momentum going on offense here after that unfortunate first possession and they're going to lose the ball again harmon's going to get the deflection and still take it the other way put up a layup and one harmon got the deflection to cause the turnover and then converted the layup on the other side with a foul so he will head to the free throw line yeah so far start the second half the bulldogs best offense has been their defense as they're able to get a couple turnovers to start it off and harmon's gonna miss that one that's an unusual miss from harmon he's usually pretty good from the free throw line yeah the free throw woes continue for a north so far this game marsville is looking for their first basket of the second half they get it underneath to number 42 mcgowan who is going to put up a shot and be fouled by number 11 blake barker miles mcgowan will head to the free-throw line for the pioneers and mcgowan will miss that free throw moorsville can't afford these empty possessions here they're able to get foul they have to convert some of these free throws if they want to have a chance winning this game down the stretch and he'll knock the second one down i don't want to jinx the bulldogs kyle but uh foul's not something that's been a problem so far today last few games we've seen they've gotten into a bit of foul trouble but it looks like they've been able to uh stay out of it so far agreed today north has done a good job of having healthy defense and been able to limit their fouls and trusting is going to drive left for the bulldogs gets it to barker underneath barker's going to put up a tough shot and he'll be able to convert that one blake barker has 10 so far that possession ended up working out for the bullets i thought jacob may have had a layup there if he wanted to finish but he decided to kick out barker was able to find the loose ball and finish and another steal for the bulldogs jacob trucino is going to seal it take it the other way and put up the layup his shot is good that is trucino's first basket of the [Applause] game mooresville definitely needs to limit the turnovers seems like the majority of the bulldogs points have come off the fast break huh yeah most certainly this i think they've had three turnovers in the two and a half minutes at this second half's been underway just they're not even passing turnovers to strip them right as they're a ball healing definitely to tighten that up and get it to one of their better guards and uh something we've seen a little bit but not a ton kyle has been uh feeding it into the post for mooresville you know they clearly have the size advantage on paper and you think they'd uh be taking more advantage of that but we just haven't seen a ton of it so far tonight you're right i definitely do have a size advantage here but it seems like north is doing a good job of walling up hands high blake barker cooper horn reese armin i've done a good job definitely undersized down there but able to compete with those six five six six guys and uh blake barker has been guarding mooresville's tallest player miles mcgowan for the majority of the game and barker's been doing a pretty good job limiting him underneath mcgowan only has eight points so far we got about five and a half minutes left in the third quarter and columbus north has an 11 point lead let's see if mooresville can shorten that and woodson tried to get it to number 31 ashton holtzclaw but uh that pass was deflected by cooper horn it's good work by cooper having a hand in passing lane there but if you're at mooresville look to do a back cut there cooper was in the passing lane it back that they would have had a jump shot or maybe even a layup on that possession [Music] and three-pointer no good sam king gets the rebound for the bulldogs blake barker is going to try three from the left side his shot is good [Applause] that's barker's second three of the game definitely the start the bulldogs want coming out at halftime coach ferguson likely pleased and number 11 dane stevenson will make a three-pointer for the pioneers answering back king's got it get your trucina trecena is going to drive right kick out to horn horn to harmon up top harmon drive behind the back out to trucino on the left side tracina is going to try a three but it'll be no good those are the shots the bulldogs won good uh dribble drive by rhys harmon able to get down there and kick out those shots i'd say a pretty high percentage for the bulldogs especially jacob just unable to convert on that one and holtzclaw threw it away for marsville so the bulldogs will take it the other way harmon has it gets it to street cena [Music] barker bulldogs with good ball movement harmon's going to take a jumper and that one's going to bounce in that's rhys harmon's eighth point of the evening that's good work by dogs moving the ball over to the right side of the court there was a double team on barker there for a moment so i mean someone was open and they were able to find reese and he's able to get a nice 15 17 foot jump shot and underneath number 35 luke fowler was fouled by was that blake barker or jacob druscina looks like blake barker fowler will head to the free throw line he'll knock that first one down and he'll convert both of them brings his total to eight points on the evening parker's going to take it up the right side for the bulldogs gets it to king on the wing churcina to harmon in the corner cooper horn fighting underneath he's going to get the ball and put up a layup his shot is good [Applause] that is horns first basket of the second half brings his total to 13 so far by cooper ceiling today his defender throwing it up there by uh north other the passer was disabled to get a good basket there to extend their lead to 13.

and the double team will almost lead to the turnover but morrisville recovers and they'll get an offensive rebound and number 42 miles mcgowan will put up the second chance shot bringing the bulldog lead to 11. we have two minutes and 45 seconds left in the third quarter as jacob trusino throws that one away and back the other way is mooresville they try to get it down under and trusina is going to deflect it and he will go out of bounds mooresville will keep possession and dane stevenson has checked out as number five gavin rogers comes in for the pioneers mcgowan has it gets it to number three zach woodson who's guarded by jacob trusina mcgowan guarded by king gets it to fowler fowler works on barker puts up a shot and he's gonna miss but blake barker will be called for the foul that is columbus north's fourth foul of this half blake barker has three fowler had to work hard to get over for that one a couple spin moves and trying to get barker off his feet there able to find the gnome thing where he's able to get fed the ball here and he'll be shooting two from the line and he'll knock that first one down and he'll make both of them luke fowler 4-4 on free throws in the second half brings his total to 10.
horns gonna take it down court for the bulldogs king with a good pass underneath to cooper horn and cooper horn will lay that in cooper horn has 17 points so far today mcgowan works on king and his fade away jumper is good that's a tough shot by miguel in a faded way shot there from about the three-third line that's able to fall there for him and worked out well for the pioneers as they cut the lead to nine it looks like miles mcgowan and luke fuller the bigs of morrisville are doing a lot of work work for them offensively so far in the second half both of them are able to uh score down low and also score those mid-range jump shots and that is number 31 dayton devone called for the foul and it looks like blake barker will head to the bench along with sam king and 15 and 12 max wilson and ding ding have checked in and with a minute 15 left in the third quarter north is coming down with possession wilson's got it on the left side gets it to harmon up top harmon's going to drive and kick out to trucino on the right wing trucino is going to shot fake drive get it to wilson underneath max wilson gets to ding ding and ding ding with a nice lay up underneath off the assist from number 15 max wilson that is ding ding's first basket of the game that was excellent work there are probably two open shots there for the bulldogs but they're able to find the third open shot that ended up being the most wide open able to get two points for him and another mooresville turnover leads to the bulldogs taking it the other way and cooper horn tried to get it to ding ding but uh the ball was lost and the pioneers are going back the other way with it underneath is mcgowan who works the layup on ding ding [Applause] shrinks the bulldog lead to nine with 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter and north will go for the final shot here hoping to extend the lead to double digits and harmon has it guarded by number 11 dane stephenson harmon's going to try a three his shot is good and rhys harmon has 13 points for the bulldogs and headed into the fourth quarter the score is columbus north 53 mooresville 41.
stay tuned here on bcsc [Music] youtube [Music] and fans if you'll look behind the columbus north bench you'll see the fans in the stands with limited in-person seating this season you can support quarter blake barker has the ball for the bulldogs wilson on the right side dribbles gets it out to horn reese harmon drives left and he tried to get the ball to ding ding but it was stolen by mcgowan back the other way miles mcgowan is going to try a layup his shot is good [Applause] the bulldog lead is 10. come on and blake barker is going to try three his shot no good and the rebound will go to number 35 luke fowler back the other way as the pioneers they get underneath to mcgowan guarded by barker mcgowan works a nice move and gets a shot underneath the rim shrinks the bulldog lead to eight and the morrisville big man of good done a good job about halfway through the third quarter and into the fourth quarter where we are now of converting those layups earlier in the game the north defenders have done a good job of preventing those but it looks like the last about eight minutes they're able to get some baskets and if the pioneers can uh keep this up this game might be a little closer here in the fourth quarter uh rhys harmon drove left and he was fouled that is mooresville's third team foul [Music] and rhys has done a good job of being able to attack the baseline there the mooresville defenders respect his ability to shoot so they come out hand high on him and he's able to pump fake and go baseline on them and either find a way for himself or feed one of his teammates yeah harman really a triple threat on offense as he can shoot the ball well dribbled the ball well and he always finds his teammates to make plays happen wilson has it works the screen off ding ding gets it to barker on the right side barker to harmon on the left reese harmon finds cooper horn underneath mooresville with some decent defense here horn's going to drive and put up a jumper that shot no good and the rebound will go to number 11 dane stevenson he'll take it the other way for the pioneers he'll get it underneath to gavin rogers who will put up a layup his shot is good bulldog lead is six and with five minutes and 40 seconds left in the game north's definitely looking for a basket here so far the last couple minutes they've been pretty dry harmon's got it he's guarded by woodson he's going to drive and get the ball to wilson wilson's going to try a three that one barely misses and ding ding gets the rebound and it looks like mooresville will tip it out of [Applause] looks bounds coach ferguson will use one of his timeouts here with five and a half minutes remaining in the game [Applause] it is a 30 second timeout [Applause] and with north inbounding under the basket you think coach frickson probably drew with a out of bounds play here to get a backseat definitely kyle and an interesting storyline here tonight all six of the bulldog players have scored so far today with three of them in double digits harman's going to get it to true cena who gets it out to king king's got an open look but he's not going to take it he's going to feed it underneath to barker and the ball will be deflected by dane stevenson who will take it the other way he'll try three his shot is good and mooresville has cut the lead to three with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter now in that previous bulldog possession uh barker was open sam just fed it to the wrong side and they were able to turn it over and right there sam king commits a traveling violation as the pioneers have shortened this lead down to three and are able to tie it up here with five minutes left in the game and coach ferg instructing his players to lock in and focus here with five minutes remaining they do not want to allow moresville to continue this run number three woodson's gonna drive put up a shot it's no good and it's rebounded by number 42 mcgowan who will put up a layup and the bulldogs lead by one point and that's a that's a big follow-up by mcgowan to not only get that offensive rebound but put it up and get two points and you can feel the games kind of picked up its pace here in the fourth quarter as the bulldogs look for a basket momentum starting to shift to the pioneers here it looks like barker was frustrated he didn't get the pass there underneath he's gonna drive left put up a shot and it's no good but he will be fouled blake barker will head to the free throw line for the bulldogs [Music] i believe this is blake barker's sixth or third trip to the free-throw line this evening and he'll get the first one to fall and he'll connect both of them there [Applause] north coming out in their ball press defense [Music] trying to get those turnovers from mooresville that they were able to get in the first and second quarter of the game and with four minutes remaining the bulldog lead is three number five gavin rogers has it for the pioneers he's guarded by cooper horn he's gonna get it to mcgowan who gets it right back to him dane stevenson looks for a shot he takes it that one short rebounded by number 20 cooper horn in the ball is was stolen by number 23 and they tried to save it and it's going to lead to an easy basket for the bulldogs [Applause] unfortunate turn of events there for more so able to get the turnover but just unable to secure and end up throwing it away there and i like the hustle but if you're morrisville you got to have the presence of mind to just let that one go and live to play another play [Applause] looks like mooresville will call a timeout here and it'll be a full timeout let's go [Applause] down and we've got about three and a half minutes left to play here in the fourth quarter columbus north has the lead 57 to 52.
mooresville was on a bit of a run before the timeout let's see if they can keep that up here and number five gavin rogers has it for the pioneers [Music] [Applause] looks like north has dropped back into their zone defense and that ball was deflected by 24 king the pioneers will retain possession stevenson to take it out [Music] he'll get it to woodson [Applause] rogers is guarded by number 20 cooper horn three minutes remaining rogers is going to try a three-pointer his shot no good and blake barker is going to come down with the rebound true cena the other way for the bulldogs north dropping back into that one two two morsels gonna have to hit some of those three point shots here as we only have about two minutes and 40 seconds left in the game uh their possessions are becoming fewer and fewer it seemed like coach ferguson recognized that the majority of the pioneers baskets were coming from the post underneath so it looks like they hope to limit the pioneers to three-point shots here [Applause] and number 20 cooper horn was fouled he will head to the line has 15 so far today and horn will knock the first one down and he'll go 202 there the bulldog lead is seven with two and a half minutes remaining [Music] woodson has it and if you're mooresville you want to get something going here quick woodson's going to take a three his shot is good [Music] that shrinks the bulldog lead to four with two minutes remaining that's a tough shot off a couple of dribbles there he wasn't passed out because he was able to pull up and shoot a pretty long three there and the bulldogs playing keep away here with a four point lead in less than two minutes remaining looks like mooresville may have to foul if they can't create the turnover and they will that is mooresville's fifth team foul i mean sixth that is their sixth team foul bulldogs will be in the bonus on the next foul here and mooresville will use another timeout [Applause] god [Music] [Applause] [Music] and welcome back we have a minute and 42 seconds remaining and columbus north has a four point lead one more foul puts the bulldogs in the bonus harmon gets a down court to true cena trusino will drive left get it back to harmon and harmon will be intentionally fouled there putting the dogs in the bonus and the big man miles mcgowan has checked back in for the pioneers and harmon the bulldogs best free throw shooter will get a chance here he'll knock that first one down [Applause] and he'll go two of two there that brings rhys harmon's total to 15.
the bulldogs have a six point advantage with a minute and a half remaining zach woodson is going to try a deep three that shot no good and the ball was tipped off the hands of number 42 miles mcgowan and the bulldogs will get it back and harmon was fouled by number three zach woodson that'll send him right back to the line i'm not sure that was the best shot morsel could have got that they still had about 80 seconds left when they took that shot they're able to afford a 20 seconds off the clock and get a good looking three but that one was just off that one dribble and about 25 feet so not sure that was the best solution for them there and harmon misses that one mooresville catches a break there as harmon is usually very solid from the free throw line and he'll steal the ball harmon's headed the other way to lay it in for two making up for that layup or that free throw i mean [Music] mcgowan has it he's gonna dribble out of bounds and the bulldogs will take it the other way and the dogs have an eight-point lead not too long ago this was a two-point game but north has been able to uh commit some allow moore's votes to commit some turnovers there so it looks like there's a five second violation caught on the bulldogs so moore's will get a lucky break and be able to inbound the ball here down by eight with 59 seconds left in the game and coach ferguson will use another [Music] timeout it is a full timeout the bulldogs have an eight point lead with 58 seconds [Music] remaining [Applause] [Music] me [Music] and welcome back we have about 58 seconds remaining and the bulldogs have an eight point lead mooresville set to inbound underneath their own basket [Music] oh and a unfortunate mental error there by mooresville will cause them to lose that possession that's just a tough break they came out of the timeout like they had a play drew up and just wasn't unable to establish his feet and bounds and just a costly turnover for him and no foul called as cooper horn takes it down the court for the bulldogs i thought they were going to call foul there but it looks like they won't and now blake barker will be fouled and he'll head to the free-throw line and blake barker will miss that free throw back the other way is and the ball is deflected pass was intended for dane stevenson and mooresville will take it out with 46 seconds remaining and more so the last two possession has been unable to get a shot up both their uh two possessions have been turned the ball over and stevenson gets it to rogers rogers outside to number 31 put up a wow looks like number 31 ashton holtzclaw put up a three and the ball was deflected barker got the rebound and tried to save it but uh morrisville will retain possession with 34 seconds that is a tough three and gavin rodgers is also going to put up a three he'll miss that morrisville gets the rebound underneath is woodson woodson puts up a shot and he is fouled with 20 seconds he will head to the free throw line and it looks like moore's will call a 30-second time out here miles per hour [Music] and with 21 seconds left in the game mooresville will be shooting tuned down by eight and they certainly have their opportunities here of late just unable to convert their shots or simply get the shots off at all as north has done a pretty good job of defending those shots and even deflecting a ton of them out of bounds and woodson's going to miss that one he is of 2 on free throws so far this evening and both teams shooting pretty badly from the free throw line tonight and he'll make that one the bulldog lead is six tracing is going to get to horn and columbus north called a timeout that's good recognition from cooper horn recognizing he's in a tough situation there they have timeouts left go ahead and use them and north will call a final or a full time out here [Applause] h [Applause] [Music] and 11 blake barker will inbound the ball for the bulldogs with 18 seconds remaining they have a six point advantage he'll get it to um number two and harmon is fouled right away that'll send the bulldogs best free throw shooter to the line north is in the double bonus here so reese armand is guaranteed two shots from the line and harmon will make that first one and that brings rhys harmon's total this evening to 17.
sorry and number 11 dane stevenson tried to get a three-pointer up but it was swatted by number 10 jacob trusina morrisville will get the ball back with nine seconds remaining and it looks like this one is just about over and yeah mooresville had their opportunities they played pretty well throughout the game just i think north did a pretty good job defensively able to limit their shots or morsel shots in the second half then ultimately come away with the victory here and with that the final score is columbus north 65 mooresville 56 checking in on the box score for both teams looks like blake barker finished with 15 rhys harmon with 17 cooper horn with 17. jacob trusino with two wilson with two and king with six ding ding also had two and for the pioneers zach woodson finished with 10 dane stevenson with 12. luke fowler with 10 and the leading scorer was miles mcgowan he was able to come away with 19 points and that concludes this one's ladies and gentlemen thank you everybody for tuning in to watch our live stream coming from memorial gymnasium this evening the bulldogs improve to eight and two and the dogs will be back in action next saturday january 23rd to take on the perry meridian falcons in an away matchup the pioneers sink to five and five and they'll be back in action tomorrow night at home against new palestine once again we'd like to thank our sponsors columbus auto group and forest construction i'm kyle carlson with reed duncan and we thank you for tuning in tonight have a great rest of your evening good night

carly adams take the ball out cooney put the ball on top of the key wilkinson to cooney cooney throws up a shot and that's off the mark rebound by the eagles driving it up the floor while at the top of the key ledford blocked by anna west and it's out of bounds eagles ball inbound on the left wing drives it into the middle of the floor kicks out to 22 shows up a shot off the mark rebound by ledford and she steps out of bounds lady pirates ball cooney drives the ball up the floor and she travels lady eagles ball great play can't make those mistakes here if you want to win this game the number three team 1a going up against a solid 3a team with some experience on the oh that looked like a carry to me but the ref thought otherwise and she travels so we've got two travels already here in the first quarter anna west set to take the ball out cuny with the ball mid-court and west gets blocked ledford on the left side of the court driving the ball up ball at the top of the key comes off the screen ledford takes the shot kicks it out ball in the left corner shots up and it's good three-point basket by who is that number i can't even read number 21 number 21 ball in the left corner shot up and good by hilary ernst oh that's uh carly adams my bad ball at the top of the key on the right wing number 14 with the ball drives left kicks it out number 22.
