i high school where do you go cathedral the only person i don't even remember his name is the guy that plays baseball i don't want that i don't fault baseball but yeah and then i know of a bunch of like college students in about one third and three i'll place money it's frankie frankie varentino absolutely oh wait he left that's right he doesn't even go do you want to high school anymore he doesn't no you didn't hear suffield academy trust me there was a lot of things i had to say about that was i surprised no you go to south field academy if you if you're going to get a scholarship baits one tackle and going to be brought down has he been running back all games i feel like and the quarterback he has thrown a couple he has thrown a couple last couple rushes he's had has been pretty good yeah he's also like the quarterback which is weird why he has the number 22 on that's why i called them a young high school their uh high school therak henry they're wearing maroon like alabama but alabama's a bit more red oh yes sir are you are you new you have obviously you haven't seen your new hockey jerseys yet are they are they still going to keep this horizontal or do you get to keep your jersey um the old ones now no well coach let's take one but oh is your girlfriend gonna wear it i'm sorry i had to it's it it's a joke i make to you every day oh look at us really don't even care about each other uh one day out one day i swear you're gonna get back at me and i'm not gonna enjoy it run down the left side gonna be brought down behind the line of scrimmage they lost it quite a bit no that was a false start oh okay unless it isn't and that was the five yards they lost i don't know it could be either second fifteen seven yeah i'll call it yeah fifteen tackle on the play by seventy two lucas ferguson and seventy seven gave up lucas circumcision and gabe second down and fall stop second of fifteen [Laughter] flag on the play looks like a play action i'll start oh offense false third of the offense five-year penalty second down in 20 i've proved my plan [Music] mic drop i'm not dropping the headset i would do it but i'm not doing it second and 20.

mason schnabel on the tackle i remember playing red butt all the time i mean it would at the end of the games it would usually get kind of chippy so always look out for that um towards the end of the game here nothing worse than going to red but though and having to listen to the fireworks definitely makes it a fun atmosphere to play in though and that's a lot of conference or uh cokia conference places that you go to it's tough to play there third down and 10 for the musketeer is going to be another high make it rain snap thrown to the right side and it's going to fall incomplete the defender there for the eagles i believe was number 18 hayden habermill about a yard short he could have had three picks tonight he's about just a yard short of all of them [Music] so that brings up a fourth down in 10 from the 40 yard line colombia gonna have three degree definement two linebackers and another one coming up is colin saigon who's on a blitz who's got the quarterback in his sights and just misses a sack luck's got to scramble throws it to the right side and this one could be picked off and it is caught by number one zach wetzel for an interception for the eagles their fifth turnover of the takes night near the 20-yard line so the columbia offense will come back onto the field up 47-0 with two minutes and 47 seconds remaining in the game wetzel in the right place at the right time for the interception and seals the deal and barring no turnovers by the eagles offense will leave the shutout intact columbia going to go into the victory formation and take a knee so should be able to run out the clock i believe official want them to reset the play clock to 40 seconds i keep resetting it to 25.

conversion percentage on a second and twenty zero because it's the first game of the season and they're gonna run [Music] yeah play action oh my gosh it's actually a pass throw dropped i think they won't be trying anytime soon i think they'll stick to the stick to the rush they are one for three and there are negative yards on the path whoo interception negative a yard and an incompletion or no sorry they're oh for four yeah there's one or one for four one interception one incomplete or two incompletions because that was the second incompletion doesn't matter either way they have one ingredient one completion yeah and it was negative yards i don't think they're gonna switch it up much i mean the defense is locking it up they have to throw because if you're gonna go for it on a fourth down no way there's another flag on them i don't see a flag oh time out east song meadow time out east 6 31 remaining in the fourth quarter scores 21-6 east long meadow and with the lead still timeouts are 2 2 for both teams we'll be back after the timeout uh oh i'm gonna be in the car with like have a longer home i don't i have five minutes and even then i might end up driving oh let me tell you meadows driving school what their website screwed up i can't even log into my own account april vacation because i might as well just do the week i'm on a zoom class from 12 to 6 30.

officials now saying don't worry about the play clock go by the back judge he's the one that has the final say in the play clock seems like more of the stadiums are starting to get more play clocks in back in the day though they used to only get one one or two fields had the play clocks and then you had to watch that back judge and had to know where you were official starts counting down five seconds dominic vaguely takes the snap takes a knee to get us to one minute and 45 seconds left in the week one action jared is on his way down to the interview with london little something new this year usually we had to have the coaches sprinting up here and get him up here but with mr nickerson's great setup that we have we have the interviews on the field so next week columbia will travel to salem for the seven o'clock game against i believe the wildcats if i remember correctly in week two action vaguely goes under center once again takes a snap takes a knee with one minute five seconds remaining so that'll bring up a fourth down and 16.

that's already like i'm already on in class 631 remaining in the fourth quarter scores 21 6 east long middle third and 20. gotta love that as i do my little shimmy just try and stay warm do my lip dance sorry i'll stop my big toe's gonna fall off i feel that pass into double coverage too far and complete good arm but passes incomplete will bring a fourth down he's starting with a glove on so i gotta give him credit why because his hand's frozen there's probably worse than that are you going for it again what are they doing looks like no it looks like they will punt as i think that's 66. i can't tell that he is the punter and he is bad oh yeah sorry what'd you say oh yeah they absolutely have to it's fourth and twenty they will like to punt oh hi pun and far taken and going to be returned by nicomo joe nicomo going to the sidelines they're trying to strip it unable to down at the 41.

offense comes off the field punt team comes on probably going to be about 20 seconds i believe difference [Applause] the student section just now getting into it over here to our left side 10 seconds remaining it will be about 20 seconds differential having adam webermeyer back to punt standing at the two yard line good snap gets the pun off it's going to be another spiral punt to the left side going to be caught by red bud gonna be about the 37 yard line he's going to try to get something out of nothing and he's going to gain about five yards and that is it nick danter on the return picks up 10 yards on the play [Music] so that will do it ladies and gentlemen nope they stopped the clock too nope now they just said go for it so that will do it now officially columbia wins this week one action then match up against the redbud musketeers the air horn going off man that thing is loud [Applause] [Music] new thing this year they do not have to shake hands players just raise their helmet to each other do not shake hands and jared is getting london little down at midfield right now we'll let them get squared away coach warner taking the team to about the 35-yard line london's struggling to get his helmet off jared's trying to help him right now [Music] london you got me down there yeah i got you welcome to a wonderful senior season you started off with a bang tonight going with the pick six the punt return or the kickoff return uh what's it mean to get back out onto the field and get your senior season underway uh it it definitely feels good uh just being back out here with the boys um hey i couldn't ask i mean i ain't complaining we got our season so ain't nothing to complain about yeah absolutely one of the things that coach germain was saying this week he said he wanted to bring the juice and i think you guys brought it offensively and defensively what was it like preparing instead of having a full preseason you only had the two weeks what was it like preparing and knowing that you got to get ready to rock and bring the juice in just two short weeks i mean it was definitely a struggle um not much for like wide receivers but our alignment just too much in their head they're just i don't know it was fine all right well hey we won't give you any more we won't give you any more tough questions you guys pitched a shutout in week one you're up you win 47 nothing you got next week with salem wildcats good luck next season or next week and good luck with the season and we'll see you next week in salem all right thank you thank you good game tonight bud so that was london little tonight's player of the game a huge night don't know the official stats yet we will get those for you next week but uh kickoff return for a touchdown picks pick return for a touchdown as well just a great night by london little we will send it to break and we will be back to columbia after the eagles beat the redbud musketeers 47 nothing welcome back ladies and gentlemen to columbia where the the columbia eagles knocked off the redbud musketeers 47 nothing alex schlemmer and jared germain with you again columbia proves to 1-0 on the season and had a pretty good night all together had some big scoring plays had some big stops and a couple of the scoring plays that really stood out to us the most uh no you don't on the offensive end without football like i said 496 days since we last saw you and we had a great time on behalf of columbia high school coach horner mr nickerson mr reeves we thank you all for watching again we encourage you to support our sponsors for supporting us and we will see you next week in salem against the wildcats um columbia ends it or wins it 47-0 i appreciate you all for watching go eagles baby you

so first and ten first down for a song meadow enemy territories not only that but if i'm useless i just drain the clock six ten remaining you're up by a very good two possessions could be three yep and that's that's that looks like conor robidu yeah that's kind of robin hand off to isaiah fades one tackle gonna get at least back to the line of scrimmage maybe push forward for about a yard uh they'll say actually close to two isaiah king second and it looks like nine maybe eight second down and eight i don't know what's going on i'm interesting to see what y'all's going to do oh they're trying to drain down the clock to a certain amount of time all right fumble on the snap connor gonna have to try and quickly retrieve it it's gonna be close oh white's got it this is why i hate when like certain situations like these happen because who knows everyone says it's theirs i got lucky last year they had a lot of high snaps today well because you have an issue not it's cold you've got two you've got two different quarterbacks that's true i mean but you never know that could change the whole game there was like 13.

like me when i did snaps with a when i did snaps and tried to get them down anytime i ever did them charcoal formation which i did like two in as a warm-up it was like uh it was one of those situations where past complete depressing long go gonna take it to about nine yards looks like it's gonna be a fourth and nine four yard gain when we did a shotgun formation snap they could lock they could throw it them throwing it over conor's head was to my chest so it was one of those like you can't mess up with me unless you're like trying to send it to the sky yeah as we're i don't know the height comparison between shane becker and connor i think that one that went over conor's head and he bobbled definitely probably would have been just a little hop for shane but then again i can't tell from here the height comparison and i haven't seen those two stand next to each other before time out yeah okay so no so so street fighter is like an inch or two maybe three taller than connor so that wouldn't matter they both probably would have about conor mary number one wanted to wear number 15 for his brother cj took that from him real quick so he took one shane took nine don't know why he just took that respect he's around the clock now oh my god it's trying to get the well there's another timeout but this is a timeout by amherst no i know i don't know why they're calling the timeout now because your mindset should have already been get the ball back hurry up off yeah you you have to run two-minute the two-minute drill with your team in a four and a half minutes five-minute situation because you're a run heavy team and the pass has been awful punt by cj up far bouncing towards the sidelines but still going to make its way closer to the red zone we'll say the 27 28 28 first and ten for amherst 406 remaining in the fourth first fourth fourth twenty one to six is that lead they've had the entire game also have not scored since the first or second sorry second yeah no they haven't done much of anything but i think it's because they like learned hey we're up 21 first to nothing going into the half they run it do what you can just drain the clock because the problem is in high school it's also in college and in professionals but the time frame is smaller the second you get to a certain lead you have to you have to have a thing called sportsmanship and in high school the sportsman the time that you decide to be to be you know friendly and nice is way too early in my opinion because some would say if it was 28 to nothing they would say and they were still trying to score some would say that's unfair huge run like about 30 plus yards gonna go into east longmeadow territory this could be dangerous now that they're starting to get this running if they start having momentum shifts under four minutes first down for amherst on the 42-43 let's do play shutdown d right now blitz yeah you know what throw out your throw out your fuel gold block let's see how that works fix the handoff goes to the man behind him bit of a holding but no call gonna be about that 36 second and four i'll say four five [Music] i'm waiting for confirmation for four 3 30 remaining in the fourth and counting [Music] motion handoff number 10.

oh gets fumbled looks like amherst was easily able to jump on that ball game session looks like it will be a third and short they gotta turn over on downs the game's the game's just about over absolutely third and one tackle on the plane by 46 tanner mctaggart tanner tiger with the tackle to cause the fumble but unable to recover or unable to get to it easy song meadow recovery by amherst under three minutes remaining in the fourth now what would be preferable is if amherst could score before the two minute warning punt it and get it into ysong most in possession before the two minute warning and use that two minute warning as a timeout flag i'll start offense there we go and that is going to make it all that much more difficult for amherst to try and get that first down third and six now he's a little chilly a little my hand is in my my wrist is now cold my hand's still cold but now i feel my wrist i can't feel for my knee down i can feel my shoulders [Music] let's see if they can produce anything i would assume not run down the middle about a three yard gain fourth down on the 36.

we develop knowledgeable competent and responsible citizens through inspirational and innovative learning and to the opportunities for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all next order of business is the adoption of the agenda mr president i move we adopt the agenda as presented thank you mr alexander and thank you mr daniels any questions all those in favor say aye aye all those posed motion passes 5-0 thank you public comments we do have someone speaking tonight uh mr spradlin who is our executive director of the indiana school board associations just step up to mike here yes hey good evening everyone terry spradlin executive director of the indiana school boards association it's great to be with you great to see a crowd here tonight following your work so it's appropriate let me start off by saying thank you i want to say thank you for your leadership for the educators that are in the room thank you public safety officers thank you it's been a herculean effort this school year to conduct school and uh you know despite all the odds and the the uh challenges of covet you guys have been tremendous heroes and so we thank you for all you're doing to you know conclude this school year so good luck in the next couple of months so really really appreciate you know what you guys are doing and uh i have a i have a senior um at the high school so i can attest to the hard work and dedication of your staff of your faculty of your students so we really really appreciate that i think you have on your agenda tonight i don't know do you have the resolution on your job yes yes sir so we want to thank you you're one of about 150 or more school boards that are taking action to adopt a resolution in opposition to a couple bills that the legislature is considering uh central 413 house bill 1005 those bills divert more than 140 million dollars away from public education for what we call school choice and included in the school choice programs are the indiana choice scholarship voucher program and uh a new new program called education scholarship accounts you know those programs only serve about three percent of our kids in indiana but they'll consume you know nearly 40 of the new money that the general assembly allocates so we're trying to send a strong message through board resolutions so your action tonight if you'll please share it with your area legislators after you adopt it tonight share with your local media we want to drive as much dollars to the classroom as possible for public education we educate more than 90 percent of all kids in the state of indiana and the budget that the general assembly is considering is only allocating about one and a quarter to two and a half percent and new monies for public education so when they you know put 144 million dollars into the budget to serve only three percent of the kids you know we feel that's detrimental for public education it diverts essential resources that we can drive to the classroom in fact if there's any teachers here we'd like to see more of those monies going to teacher pay and raising teacher compensation in the state of indiana so as as parents as educators and school board members you know we just ask you to join us in this fight speak up and speak out speak with your legislators about this so thank you for your leadership tonight and taking action on the resolution we greatly appreciate it if i may close by sharing we have some upcoming events we want to invite you guys our board members to some upcoming isbn events our annual fall conference october 11th to 12th if you'll not note that we normally have spring regional meetings across the state we're usually here on the south side for dinner in may but we're canceling that event due to covet but we all have a live spring meeting webinar on may 12th at 6 pm so we need to invite you to join us for that so again thank you for all you do thank you for taking action on the resolution tonight it's very meaningful uh to the students of the state of indiana so thank you happy to answer any questions actually terry it's more of a comment than it is a question i i want to thank you and your team for the leadership you guys have been providing at the state house i know you guys have been working hard and i appreciate the daily news updates that you send by the way we are trying not to inundate your inbox with too much information just the right information and keep you guys informed so we'll have another update out tomorrow about the session but the other thing we're doing is our coronavirus resource guide updates so as again as the state department of health and the center for disease control continue to change rules and regulations and guidance on health and safety uh we are issuing those updates for all of our board members uh so that you can comply with whatever those rule changes are and so we're getting a lot of additional federal monies that are coming our way in cares act one and two in the new round of stimulus dollars so we'll be giving you updates soon about how those dollars can be spent of course the department of education will as well so uh again heroic efforts herculean efforts thanks for your leadership thank you public safety officers teachers and parents um just a fantastic job well done so i really appreciate the opportunity to be here so thank you thank you mr spradling you're welcome thanks sir thank you knowing any other questions for mr bradley let's move on to consent items do i have a motion mr president i move that we accept the consent agenda as presented thank you mr alexander do i have a second mrs counts any questions all those in favor say aye aye all those opposed motion passes 5-0 we do have some things to do yes thank you um this evening we'd like to do a few things there we go okay um we'd like to uh first of all uh have uh mr um scott knapp would you uh introduce our our new assistant a.d right ⚗ AI-reconstructed · cite from original above
and the resolution is attached to oppose this uh bill and so this evening i'm uh recommending that the board sign this resolution thank you dr arkanov are there any questions once we vote on this and sign it this evening and does it go back to the school board association do we press it forward with the legislator or what's the plan there so we'll share it out with with isba and the superintendents association so that they can put it with their collection but we will also i will also then reach out to the legislators and make direct contact and put to send that email and also i will talk with them that this is coming and that we did this as a school corporation very good and i just want to recommend recommend commend mr spradlin um i was lucky enough to be on the board to hire mr spradlin at isba and uh i can tell you icba just rocketed forward after that and this is one of the things we're seeing more involvement uh fighting for public schools okay um do i have a motion mr president i move that we adopt the resolution in opposition to the school of choice expansion bills before the legislator house bill 1005 and senate bill 413 thank you mr alexander do i have a second i'll second thank you mr hubbard all those in favor say aye aye all those opposed motion passes 5-0 thank you thank you mr spradling our next uh action item is the second reading of proposed policy revisions and we are turning it over to me dr arkansas thank you this evening i'm recommending that the board approve the second reading of the policy changes and uh and revisions you have you reviewed them at the last board meeting so by board policy it requires two readings and so this would be the second reading and final reading for this evening and upon your approval they will become permanent in the policy manual so if there are any questions any additional questions to any of the policies we are available to take those this evening otherwise we all we need is a motion and approval since we discussed them last board meeting this is the second reading second and we do this every year we do them every time we have changes yeah sometimes twice sometimes twice a year sometimes twice a year and we just always try to follow the letter of the law the state puts out so we match up are there any other questions on this do i have a motion mr president i move that we adopt the proposed policy positions as presented thank you mr daniels do i have a second second thank you mrs counts all those in favor say aye aye all those opposed motion passes five zero thank you our next action item is to accept proposals for roof section repairs dr long thank you dr long will provide you with additional information i'm skipping over okay that's fine i know you're in that area not nearly as exciting as everything else that you've done tonight but as you know we have a company that does an assessment of all the roofs in the school corporation for all of our buildings we try to schedule that work to spread it out over a period of time so we're not hit with millions of dollars worth of work last year we did some work at middle school central if you remember seeing the scaffolding and everything up around that tonight based on the findings from the the roof survey we're recommending roof sections at middle school central and center grove elementary be replaced the total cost of the repairs is a hundred ninety one thousand one hundred forty four dollars and fifty cents at middle school central that's a hundred and four thousand five hundred six dollars and fifty cents and at center grove elementary eighty six thousand six hundred thirty eight dollars this keeps us on track we've been doing this probably as long as i've been here for 20 some years it keeps us on track to keep our roofs in good shape so we don't have any issues that require more investment from the school board and it takes care of the the buildings that we have thank you dr long are there any questions for dr long do i have a motion for except proposals for roof section repairs mr president i move that we accept the proposal from brown's roofing inc in the amount of 191 144.50 is that correct yes sir for the roof section replacements at middle school central and center grove elementary thank you mr alexander do i have a second second thank you mr hepburn danielson oh i'm sorry okay yeah all those in favor say aye aye all those posed passes five zero thank you thank you thank you sorry doc along the 50 cents threw me off usually usually we can round down around for us but we're down our next action item a first reading of resolution naming the high school softball field dr arkanov thank you thank you mr russell this evening this item will not require action by the board but we are direct we have drafted a resolution this evening for naming the softball field after mr russ milligan thank you oh there we go and dr long will be providing you with some additional information um thank you tonight we are presenting for the first reading a recommendation for a resolution naming the high school softball field the russ milligan field as everyone's aware mr milligan passed away i think it's you you turn the mic off and for the board's consideration to name the softball field as presented in the first reading this board policy it takes two readings so there is like dr arkanov said there is no action tonight but tonight is the first reading i'd be happy to read it if anybody wanted me to read it but just the highlights of it is mr milligan had 741 wins uh and with an 89 winning percentage five ihsa state softball championships three hsa state runners up and was inducted into the indiana high school softball hall of fame named the state softball coach of the year three times and the district coach of the year five times and coached two miss indiana softball players so we think it's appropriate for the board to consider this resolution tonight and hopefully next month take action to approve that thank you dr long are there any questions for dr long there is no action to be taken on this uh this evening and now we go to other business thank you thank you dr long mr daniels do you have anything i would uh just like to acknowledge my uh cohort here to my left he's been recently elected as president of central nine i want to thank mr hubbard for all that he's done to since he's been on the board with central nine and i believe the acknowledgement to put him in the president's role as his well-earned much deserved and we look forward to him continuing to give back over there so i want to congratulate him as a fellow board member on his selection at c9 thank you [Applause] mr hubbard do you have any other business no sir i do not okay mr alexander not not near as exciting as mr hubbard's presidency over at c9 but i have i actually went in and did my oath of office for to be the non-voting advisory school board member to the johnson county redevelopment commission our first meeting will be sometime in april and in case everybody missed it there was two tiff districts they formed one of them in our backyard yep they are not our friend your service center okay this counts i just don't know okay thank you i would just like to take a moment um not a moment of silence but we have a lot of challenges with our staff right now and an ongoing and family so just to send those positive thoughts for the staff here at center grove we all have been through the cove this past year and then on top of that some other things so just keep jennifer peterson as cms gem award recipient for the month of march it could be said that mrs peterson has literally gone the extra mile for her students about five years ago mrs peterson came to me with an idea to start a running club at the middle school fast forward several years in the running club at cms is one of the most well attended school after school activities before covet hit it was not uncommon for dozens of students and several teachers as well to meet up at the track many of those students have gone on to participate in high school track and field the governor recently announced that middle school sports are resuming so we are thrilled once again to offer running club at cms mrs peterson has already held one interest meeting and has a second one scheduled for this wednesday in addition to running club mrs peterson is the co-coordinator for the seventh grade class trip which we hope will resume next year as our schools continue to inch back to normal whenever there's a fundraiser or social activity mrs peterson is always there to lend a hand in the classroom mrs peterson's dedication and caring for her students is unmatched she regularly makes appointments with me to sit down and discuss difficult cases and challenges that accompany teaching and learning mrs peterson never settles for mediocrity and works each day to instill the sense of determination and pride in her students ms peterson follows her students progress through high school and beyond and there's nothing more gratifying than when she has exciting news to report about one of her former students we are all lucky to have mrs peterson as a teacher in the bound brook school district and i am honored to present jennifer peterson with the cms gem award for march ms peterson is unable to join us tonight she'll receive her award tomorrow but she is logged in of course virtually tonight thank you miss peterson hey hello again it's my great pleasure to name mrs maureen ryan as the high school recipient of the grammar board mrs ryan has always done her best to support her colleagues in downbrook high school in all capacities as a teacher advisor colleague role model and friend she showed that she is committed to the little things such as helping teachers on her floor and in the neighboring classrooms by enriching the educational experience for students and teachers alike she is a committed advisor advisor for the class of 2022 where she truly goes above our boundary high school students in the high school's most recent donut sale mrs ryan took it upon herself to deliver almost 25 orders to families and friends in dunbrook she's a leader not only in the school or department but in the community and is one of the rare teachers that has been able to teach multiple generations of the same family mrs ryan has spent 21 of her 23 years in the fellow public schools educating her students on the four disciplines of history geography civics and economics for 21st century learner she challenges her students to acquire a basic understanding and appreciation of world and american history in an effort to prepare them for college and career readiness and to be productive members of society for these reasons among others this mrs ryan is well deserving of being named the going the extra mile recipient for the high school please congratulate mrs ryan for her tremendous work and dedication to the denver high school community thank you all right one of our students came in to our fifth grade student joseph come on down [Applause] um um i know anyone around the translate before okay dr gallagher for the community middle school anthony garcia navarro [Applause] for our first grade student of the month at lafayette we have james rojas de los [Applause] santos [Music] [Applause] uh the gem award for lamontagne is clara clevenger however also for the district we have our entire nursing staff we have mrs bennett mrs clevenger this is hanson mrs newmarovsky and mrs sherman our nursing staff has gone well above and beyond during this time of coven um i couldn't recognize just one of them i had to do them as a group they have uh you know 24 7 been on call basically along with uh mrs snell who doing all the contact tracing every time we get a phone call whether it's or an email whether it's you know seven o'clock at night we're on weekends you know we have to start that contract creases and uh everybody has got well above and beyond for the difference to make sure that everyone stays safe and that we follow necessary calls to make sure that when we open up in the morning that everybody is checked everybody's temperature is checked every cohort form is checked and that we are opening with confidence that our schools are safe and we abide by all of the protocols that we have in place so i'd like to congratulate all of our school nurses as the gem award recipients of the district because they've done an outstanding job and they really should be thankful for the outstanding work that they have done [Applause] at this time we have this theory exemplary education presentation by mrs so just some background information on exactly what the exemplary educator recognition program is and the purpose is to identify educators who are valued by their school and community and have exhibited strong knowledge and skills and inspiring presence and a clear vision for teaching and learning um this nominee was nominated last year but because of covet and some changes at the d.o.e we finally found out this year that she was one of only 93 in the entire state selected so mrs quinn is the definition of an exemplary educator as an administrator one of the best parts of my day is walking around the building to witness the learning that is going on in classrooms there are times when i notice creativity and planning and instruction and there are times when i see things that make me think to myself self i wish i saw this while i was teaching mrs quinn has allowed me to have those moments often when i would walk by her room or stop in to say hello by facilitating lessons that bring literature to life through a student-centered puppet theater which is still one of my favorite memories assigning roles to students and guided reading groups that allow students to have leadership roles when discussing and analyzing text or analyzing student performance data to hone in on specific standards that need to be addressed either individually or in groups it is clear mrs quinn takes her craft seriously and is constantly looking for the most innovative and exciting ways to teach her lessons time and again mrs quinn has proven herself to be a dedicated educator that closely examines every lesson as an opportunity to create an enriching experience that not only leads to teachable moments but that sparks creativity and imagination her tenacity is palpable to her students allowing them to gain confidence and push themselves out of their comfort zones in a constant search for best practices mrs quinn never stops thinking of how to be innovative or reach for that one student that seems to be disconnected it is easy to find the missteps and focus on them but when mrs quinn finds them she thinks of solutions and starts conversations to brainstorm ways to improve upon them during distance learning while others were finding it difficult to manage the new day-to-day routines and rightfully so mrs quinn not only led her grade level but reached out to other grades to show them the new techniques she discovered she typed up detailed directions she hosted multiple google meets and led demonstrations she continually offered to do it all over and over and over congratulations mrs quinn and thank you for your dedication to our students and the craft of educating young [Applause] thank minds [Applause] at this time we're going to ask the board members to take a seat in the audience and we're going to just take a two minute right here while i transition out to there yeah i got j and j one shot done wanted to take a date okay i'm going to uh start off my presentation like you do can you almost every lights the lights i think everybody could see it they were okay we're good they can't sing the behind the stage um as they do no they're good they can see it online um okay starting over as they do every year when i do the bunch of prestige now we start out with how the state determines your local budget so the first one is how they develop their adequacy budget they determine what your adequacy budget is overall how much you should be spending as of your entire budget then they figure out what your local fair share should be and they determine how much your local fare should be by a very complicated um formula that takes into account property values as well as income okay so when we get down to that they minus your local fair share off of what they think you should be spending as your advocacy budget and that twenty four thousand twenty four million three hundred twenty thousand dollar four hundred seventy number is the equalization that the state is supposed to give to bound brook okay so this year if you look on the left hand side that subtotal 20 20 million 366 000 0 17 is the equalization aid we got this year okay so the difference right now and i go through this every year is right now we're going to be taxing and keeping our tax rates flat okay um we're not raising taxes so our tax rate is 13 million 0 37 373 and we are over taxing the local taxpayers by 223 518 which represents about 1 or less than one percent of the tax rate okay meanwhile we're supposed to get twenty four million three hundred twenty thousand four hundred seventy dollars in cd we have twenty million three hundred sixty six oh and we are still three million nine hundred fifty four dollars and four uh three million nine hundred fifty four four hundred fifty three thousand dollars underfunded all of this you can double check me you can go to nj school boards association website you can check all these facts out for yourself here's the history of taxes since 2006.

let's call tonight's meeting to order uh pam can you take roll call brown yeah johnson here kellenberger nolan here here rave here gorman here we need a motion and second to approve tonight's agenda second brown yes johnson yes nolan yes yes rabe yes gorman yes well thanks everybody watching who uh tuned in to get a little update about our in-person learning that'll be very shortly we have no public comment this evening so we'll move on to action items need a motion and a second to approve an updated school calendar second so for the board's consideration i've brought forth two draft calendars uh to make adjustments so i'll be providing the rationale for for this as i give the back to school update but we are planning on to move forward with bringing back students on april 5th therefore um in consideration we think it would be wise to take one of the teacher institute days from the end of the year in june and move it to this friday friday the 26th of march so that teachers have a chance to prepare for the influx of additional students on april 5th then that would change the last day of student attendance uh to tuesday june 8th and then the last teacher work day would be wednesday june 9th so the two options that i have in front of you the the only difference is that with draft one uh monday the seventh and tuesday the eighth are full days of student attendance and on draft two uh monday the seventh and tuesday the eighth are half days for student attendance for the boards of discussion so i brought this up to todd last week just given that next year our last two days are half days last two days next year's calendar that we approved correct correct right and so like we had talked about with the two orphan days last week in the board meeting um and just that just based on where finals are likely to be our eighth graders seniors all that stuff and just for the teachers as well to cut down on their um you know giving them extra planning time end of year stuff getting grades together for two half days um i thought that it was a reasonable thing to to suggest so curious other people's thoughts i think we've lost so much it seems crazy but on the flip side they're not going to do anything those two days but not learning new content maybe is a way to put that so certainly however bring that up to me that yeah we're not going to learn new content they could review they can play games and learn not that there's not learning going on but new content i would assume at all levels is is not gonna be going on todd with this revision when would do we know when finals would be scheduled for at the high school level finals would already be concluded at the high school on the fridays like are they right we have high school we have senior graduation on the 27th of may seniors don't make up emergency days though seniors last day is likely set so they would never be part of emergency we would have finals before that no they usually whenever my kids were in it the finals just went up to the end of the school year finals don't happen before they just get moved along with the days that's how it used to be it's about so i don't think what happens is the seniors end up not making up those two emergencies or if they need to take finals based on grades well their finals so when my daughter did it they came and had to take either they were given the final early or they came in and took finals when the rest of the class took finals um but the regular final schedule just moved with the extended days which i i wish i would agree with but i don't think that i don't think the vast majority of students are going to be receiving finals for seniors for seniors that's that's fair but the rest of the students so when would freshman sophomores and juniors take finals basically the last three days so that again that's what i'm saying that can be adjusted though i mean the high school schedule that that's not insurmountable right but usually it always ended up like when my daughter had snow days their finals was always the last three days which it's always the last three days personally these are i look at these as emergency days like any other year where we've had snow days and we just tack on a full day i wouldn't treat it any different than what we've done in the past because that's how we've always handled emergency days and then in the future if we have emergency days they would be full days of school and the only reason i brought it up is because next year we have half days already so this is we already made that decision for next year this yeah and that was to maximize the some of the end-of-year activities and things that had to be ramped up even on the staff end so the question then next year if you were to do emergency days with those half days then would get extended they would all extend it still end with two days of course you'd insert all full days and you would just end with the two they would be extended out yeah you'd have to fully you're not gonna have four half days at the end of the day that's that's the only reason that i even thought of that just because we already had an approved operation i think one concern that the board at least has to consider and i don't know to what extent that would affect but well child care issues related to those those days that's something to at least consider i personally feel like it's been such a crazy year and we've kids have missed so much already i would like to extend that those two full days you know for a lot of purposes i get eric you brought that up and i would say if it was a regular year i would say sure um to give that time to a lot that time but this year has been so crazy i would just love to see them in school those two full days this year personally yeah i kind of agree with that yeah my kids aren't going to like me but i agree so is there a consensus then to move forward with draft one amongst the board then yes yes i think you'll want to do a formal yeah just the motion someone will want to amend the motion make the motion to approve draft one of the calendar yeah that way the the high school exams the finals could be that monday tuesday or friday monday tuesday otherwise because if they were the previous they already have days anyway the second third and fourth what's the point of if your finals are done yeah teachers are planning collaboration dr mangan said last meeting so that was the whole point of this coming friday and personally i'm not too keen on the idea i voiced my you know my opinion before but i thought it'd be great if the union or some teachers could share how they collaborate with this the next born meeting and show us the positives to it um some parents might be interested too on what they did um with their great levels you know meetings that they're gonna do on friday but you know i don't know if uh i thought president chapman might be here but maybe he could share or anybody else just an idea i can follow up with our team on that so i mean i guess for the for friday knowing that a lot of their sip days and other days are a little more structured just given what we've talked about i'm guessing this will be a highly unstructured day from the administration level so will admins just kind of be checking in with the different teams to see what their goals are at the building level they will because we're now working um and i'll give that update later on with the return to school but we're going to be working diligently at the end of this week next week uh with staging staging areas and classrooms and stuff so administration will be out and about throughout the building yeah even if they you know one or two of them came to so very good all right so we need to amount the motion to go uh you know motion a second to approve draft one of the schools yes brown yes johnson yes nolan no gorman yes all right informational items uh full in-person learning update so first of all i'd like to thank all of our um parents who participated in in the survey last week to assist us in our planning uh to return the full in-person instruction on april 5th for whoever wanted that so the survey closed on on friday of last week we did have 54 families that chose to go from currently in person to remote and we had 217 families who chose to return from remote to in-person instruction we're pleased to share that we're able to bring back all students who wish to attend school in person on a full-time basis right so that's that's something i think that's really impressive and we've worked hard to accomplish that so uh based on this on the survey results in our return we're looking for a return for five days a week in person at the elementary level and the school day will be from 9 10 to 3 35 in four days a week monday tuesday thursday friday in person at the middle school and high school level leaving our wednesdays under the current schedule where we have a synchronous instruction in the morning asynchronous student instruction in the afternoon which still allows those teachers to be time to collaborate develop their lessons for the integrated instructional approach that we use with simultaneous learning that takes place at those levels um in looking at our data there there there were four grade levels uh two at howard b thomas and two at country trails and out of those four grade levels we have uh 15 students and we will be reaching out to those families tomorrow um we will we will be able to accommodate those 15 families for in-person instruction uh but they would need to attend at a different school for the remainder of the year and provide transportation so they can choose to either stay remote or they could choose to provide go to a different school provide transportation in some cases with these families we're able to keep one sibling at the home school and not the other so those families would be given the choice to either stay remote keep one sibling at the home school and put another different one or move both siblings to a different school so we're gonna try to give them some flexibility and choice to the greatest extent possible um our busing created some challenges and we're fortunate to have um well over 200 families reach out and say look if you need help to make this plan work we'll help with transportation so looking at the preliminary data today we have 79 bus routes we have currently seven of those buses are over the 50-person capacity so first of all i think we've done a great job when you're thinking 79 got 79 routes and only seven are over the 50 capacity director porto and the transportation department is going to continue to work and see if we can bring that down even a little bit more and then after that we'll be contacting some families of those affected routes to see if they can assist us with transportation so um the board did revise the calendar and that that information will be going out tonight um that said there was a calendar revision we'll send out the updated calendar to families tomorrow uh staff and families will receive an email from me a little bit later this evening outlining some of the changes and some of the things i'm sharing with the board right now including what our instructional model will be looking like um so we're pleased with that one of the other areas that that brought us um some challenge is how do you coordinate feeding these students throughout the day with six foot social distancing and again the administrative team um and their and the food service staff really stepped up um lunches will begin at howard b thomas at country trails and at prairie view at 11 40 a.m and they will conclude at
