model 4 is the 712 model and that was that is what was recommended uh by the group so it is no longer a 612 as we had originally brought forward to you all and then lastly we want to point out where you see the elementary schools you will see that that they are tk sixes right uh because the other ones are 712s and you will notice that there is a number next to those school sites so 654 507 566 801 um that is what we are what we are projecting or communicating is the capacity of of those sites we want you to know that currently that capacity includes six non-classroom rooms okay let me tell you what those six non-classroom rooms would be and so these six rooms are rooms that could be classrooms but we have decided not to make them classrooms so here's here's what they are two of those six classrooms would be designated for preschool this model right here as you can see on this page right now brings down the number of elementary schools and so as we continue to grow our preschool program uh we are we are projecting that we would need two rooms for for four sections of preschool so that's two of the six one room is for a library one room is for the innovation room or the innovation lab and two rooms are tbd to be determined those two rooms can be depending on the school site depending on the program can be things like a parent room a room for sped a room for visual and performing arts um again there's a professional development room i mean just two rooms that we know will be needed in some way form or fashion all right so now that we kind of explained some of the things in this model let's explain the actual model and how it came to be all right so the first no-brainer was azusa high school in glasgow high school this is the 7 12 model after all so there wasn't much creativity or thinking to have to have to be done there so we took azusa high school we took glaston high school uh when you put those two schools together uh their total capacity is three thousand seven hundred and sixty eight uh projected enrollment for next school year is third is three thousand one hundred ten uh so those schools uh together combined would be at 82.54 capacity if we were to begin in full blown next school year that is still to be determined you will notice that in the next subsequent years as as enrollment continues to decline in 2324 we are um projecting that that the two high schools uh the 712 schools uh would be down to 77.79 percent uh in their capacity right so that was the no-brainer that's the easy part of this model okay by doing that if i move up you will notice that for next school year we need to house 3 700 tk6 students right so that was the next task all right well now that we're done with the with the 7 12s that was the easy part what are we left with well we're left with three thousand seven hundred and sixty four students uh to house uh what we did or the approach that you see here in this uh on your screen is um the approach was to take the largest capacity elementary sites until we were able to house 3764 students right so starting with murray check then moving on to hodge check paramount check until we hit that 3764 and so you will see here that by including hodge lee magnolia murray paramount and valley dale that gives us a capacity of 3807.

we did receive more money so we're moving this payout up a little more so that we're still spending uh the majority and it's roughly around 70 percent of the funds on on these payouts and reserving the rest for either replication or classroom supply supplies of those so um the um it's based on i think i already mentioned the 2019 spring and we are just clarifying because we got questions last time of some people and so if you look at the last slide staff split between two schools so we did have had some staff split at two schools they don't get two shares they still get just the total amount of one of those positions whichever one they qualify if they qualify for two it's really like fifty percent of each at the two sites but if you were only a poor point five at that we still pay the full share in that sense so uh we're i mean oh it represents around 85 percent i'm sorry i thought it was 70 so i apologize for that and we will make the final payments uh we have not received all the money i think we received 60 of money the other 40 we get at the end of may and so we'll make these payments as soon as we get the final payment uh to pay out to all staff to those eligible staff and i'll stand for any questions so unlike the 301 pots or people um this is much more limited on who gets this benefit just teachers interventionist principal assistant principals yes and under that plan proposal eligible positions that's per statute or is that our policy um madam president members of the board specific identification did not so there could be if we'd just like to give it all to teachers it lists that we can give it to all those eligible positions so we've identified it and tiered it and just last year talked with dea and administration cabinet and looked at it with very little changes this year we just increased the teacher amount just to make sure because we got more money so we gave more to the teacher and that interventionist so that was teacher went at 500 over last year and interventionists went up 250 over so it's not specific in statute of those exact positions but all of them qualify and then we tiered it that way last year and so just falling in line with those tiers thank you you good for a motion or yeah yeah i will motion to approve the plan to distribute the results-based funding for fiscal year 2021 second um [Music] passes moving to item h5 2020 2021 summer school dr kellis thank you madam president members of the board and members of cabinet this will be a joint presentation by several of the cabinet members and we'll start off with mr dean good evening madam president members of the governing board dr kellis and members of cabinet this evening as we begin to head to the final stretches of this school year and look towards next school year the information this evening presented on summer school is a formal a formal intent to address the learning loss that has occurred during the course of this school year this will be the first of many pieces that will be rolled through next school year but this evening we're excited to provide to the board information related to the summer school program for 2021 as well as request the board to approve funding structures related to such to start with we're going to talk about our summer school framework so for this summer um and and i i should remind the board before we start that it's been many years since we've had this extensive of a plan for in-person summer school we have offered high school online summer school for the last several years and we have offered it again this year and currently we have 1096 students that have enrolled in high school online summer school which actually began this week of those 1096 students 1026 of them are taking credits to get ahead in high school and not for credit recovery so this will be the first time in in a number of years that we will be running an extensive ground summer school so high school will offer summer school through two summer terms the first will be june 7th through the 24th and the second through july 6th through the 22nd within each term there will be two sessions that will have three hours of instruction as well as an additional hour of prep time for teachers in each session so teachers will teach three hours in the morning and have an opportunity for three hours in the afternoon as well the intent of the high school summer school ground program is credit recovery and to assist those students who have fallen behind in credits during the course of this year or past years to get them back on track for graduation whether they be freshmen sophomores or juniors um at seniors as well the k-8 summer school will also run two summer terms terms again june 7th through the 24th and the 6th through the 22nd however at the k-8 summer school framework they will have one session each day and that will be a morning session again three hours of instruction with an additional hour of prep time for the teachers in terms of the high school we will be running summer school at all five high schools sundown mountain will be designated the high school spot for seniors who are there for graduate credit recovery for those students who did not meet the requirements for graduation this year they will be provided an opportunity at sundown mountain during the summer in june to be able to make up credits in order to graduate with their cohort dysart high shadow ridge valley vista and willow canyon will hold ground summer schools for students in 9th through 11th grade current 9th through 11th graders and again the intent of that is for credit recovery to make sure that those students get back on track for on-time graduation and as we stated on the previous slide there will be both am and pm sessions as long as the number of students for summer school remains steady to be able to hold those pieces we are looking at holding high school summer school classes at a very low number we are looking at a number of 10 for a high school class to make in the summer that provides great opportunities for our teachers for intervention and to work with students in very small numbers to make sure that we get them back on track and get credits made up to put them on that graduation track and with that i'll pass to dr polling who will talk about our k-8 summer school thank you mr dean um as you know we have 20 elementary schools but eight of our elementary schools will be going a massive transformation this summer creating four middle schools and four k-4 schools so those eight schools the students who are going to summer school will be housed at a local school that is not impacted by those moves we'll have a bus that picks up those students in front of the school takes them to their summer school site and then drops them back after summer school so we're hosting it on 12 sites it'll be a math and reading focus and is for students to address learning loss some students will be required to attend in lieu of retention it'll also address a special education student's needs as well as a 21st century program and those five schools that have the 21st century grant so that's kind of the behind the scenes of of who are the different groups attending in the in the purposes but it's one unified front of summer school for k-8 students so i'll turn it over to mr crota to address the uh hr aspects i'm sorry real quick dr paul who did you say before 21st century we have five 24 first century schools right this is the 21st century grant didn't you say something that right before 21st century i think he said it was another special education but thank you very much so in in lieu of doing a comp ed for all the issues of cope and whatnot we're offering it to every special education student and then meeting their needs in that way thank you okay our pay structure um since it's such a big operation obviously it's going to require a lot of staff to staff summer school and make it work therefore we came up with a very very competitive and aggressive pay structure and as you can see in front of you we are proposing to pay teachers and behavior coaches the two thousand eighty dollar stipend per session as mr dean and dr polling talked about earlier there are four sessions for high school and two for elementary admin would be a 2600 stipend procession classified all classified positions that work in summer school will be paid 25 dollars per hour for all positions and our slps our ots and our pts we know those are very very competitive uh areas and they will be pa paid uh 3 120 stipend per session that they work it's important to note that any employees that are currently under contract or required to work they cannot be paid double so if they're required to work by contract they cannot be paid these stipends at the same time they're already under contract already being paid by the district so this will be over and above outside their contract so for instance admin works in july admin could not earn a stipend of 2600 in july on top of the pay that they already get in july so that's important to note and that is going out on all our postings so we make that very clear that if they're under contract or currently in in classified in the classified world that they're required to work by their work calendar that the governing board has approved that they will not be paid both times for that so very important to note there and then i will turn it up over to ken hicks so he can describe where all this money is coming from thank you very much um and so it is a combination and so i think and previous a lot of people have heard me say uh as people have committed were using our federal funds yes 21st century is already budgeted and already put it in so those federal funds will be coming so3 under the american recovery plan did we have a requirement that 20 of the funds were spent on learning loss this directly this directly addresses that so this would be a good use of it we still haven't been able to apply for those funds yet because add has not opened up the application which is fine because we're still working on sr1 and sr2 and so that would complicate things but that is still available and so and we also have a bill i think it's hb 2887 on learning loss it's still working its way through the legislature to address some learning loss in that sense this would also be a perfect use of that so i'm committing that it's either going to be the state fund that's going to the state legislature the bill that passes to help address it which we've asked for it to be retroactive back to the beginning of summer because a lot of the districts are asking for additional funds for summer school to help in that sense and so it would either be that that bill or it would be coming out at s for funds we also believe this is going to be more than one year and so in our planning we're looking at that the sr is going to have to cover a couple years of this at least that this is not just going to be a one year solution or one summer solution to find it attached to the agenda item i did put a spreadsheet to give you an estimate of how we're calculating all of this and identifying every position at the elementary the high school the sundown special ed all the district-wide positions estimated cost for cleaning because we normally don't have full daily cleaning in this we normally do spring or summer cleaning which is completely different and so we'll have the cleaning costs and also the food service providing meals they'll probably look closer to grab and go's because we're also providing transportation and moving on especially at the high school you'll have coming and going and so working through all of that we estimate the cost right now around 4.3 it does fluctuate and these are high numbers if the students don't show up we don't hire the staff and we don't have the expense if more students show up which is it would be a great thing to help address this being in person we have the asser funds to commit to continue to help support this learning program and i think that is the last slide madam president we were more than happy to answer questions as it relates to summer school i will conclude by indicating that we have many high school students who mostly online high school students who have fallen behind in graduation credits we will be offering ground summer school to those students to make up credits so we believe that there are multiple opportunities for high school students to get back on track for graduation additionally our k-8 schools put out an interest in or solicited interest from parents related to summer school and had an overwhelming response for the number of people that had indicated that they would be sending their students to summer school for the summer this again is the first formal attempt heading towards next school year to begin to address the learning loss in addition to what's currently being done in our classrooms we will be expecting our teachers to return toward to return to a more normal classroom operation style in other words this is not going to be computer-based instruction we're expecting intervention-based instruction we're expecting direct instruction with our students and we look forward to the opportunity to continue to meet our students new needs and really formally begin to address that learning loss piece the we're asking the board for approval on the pay structure this evening the reason that request is being made is that this pay structure is outside of the mou approved summer school pay rate of 23 per hour and that's where we stand this evening so i'm more than happy to answer any questions or we're more than happy to answer any questions any difficult ones please address to ken hicks how are we going to hire the individuals to fill these positions is it i mean because there might especially with the pay structure there might be a lot of people that want to um take that opportunity so how are you going to screen or fill those positions madam president member pritchard those positions will be posted through hr um the intent would be that we would hire the administration summer school administrator initially and that they would work with the school administration um to hold those interviews for the other positions and begin to fill them throughout the course of the next few weeks but i mean as far as like how those how those individuals are chosen i mean because you're gonna have a lot of a lot of people that you know teach all different um sorry i'm starting to fade now uh subjects we have you know and they're all wonderful so how are you gonna we have more wonderful staff compared to the amount of positions we have open so i'm just wondering how are you going to make that do you have criteria or are you looking at certain things or is just based on availability we hope that we have we can't say to be blunt we hope we have that problem um it is very typical that um when you offer ground summer school um it is at times difficult to find um staff to teach as well part of the reason for the recommendation for the pay structure is to incentivize folks to teach um so if we have that problem that will be a good thing and then certainly we would you know we would work with our schools to develop criteria as to who they hire i see and then in regard to the um the seniors who need to make up credits this summer are those are those individuals allowed to walk with their class or technically now madam president mrs pritchard those students will students do not walk in the graduation ceremony unless they have met the requirements for graduation we do say that don't we um will they have anything to commemorate their achievements at the end of summer school should they make up those credits they would receive a diploma okay thank you you asked one of my questions uh christy but the other question i have is why does the high school summer school start online start before school ends madam president remember grant that's a great question and the reason for that is that the online summer school allows it is so long that it allows students to be able to earn one full credit um in in during that summer piece and so it affords enough hours um for students to to gain an entire credit rather than half a credit in a traditional summer school method thank you i'm [Music] excited to see the dollar amounts that we are paying receptionists or the security guards um because sometimes when you're calculating the dollar amounts for um those type of positions it's usually what their hourly normal hourly pay is so i'm i'm glad that you've actually done the twenty-five dollars madam president member serger singpil just as we are looking to incentivize our teachers to participate we're also looking to incentivize support staff to do so as well many people especially given this year are very much looking forward to time off in the summer um and and we need help in in with with staff to make sure that we're working towards addressing learning laws okay so yes i'm thankful for that that was probably mr croto's idea it was a team effort it was a team effort you know it was a team effort of many many people okay well some of those the crossing guards and whatever those are the ones that will not and teachers and also this will keep them from get having to go get a summer job that is very possible pay is you know incented for them to stick stick with the district the um i just want to make sure the benefits as far as the dollar amounts that includes state retirement and all that good stuff okay can't get past that can we are there any other questions looks good thank you for your time and consideration with approval of the motion i will make a motion to approve the 2020-2021 summer school pace structure as presented seconded by ms grant motion passes thank you moving to action item 6.

this would be the additional positions that were part of the presentation on the 24th so no changes nothing significant on that so i'd recommend approval as presented i had a quick question so um right now we have uh you know so at school the total numbers are based on in person and and online yes so is this an addition to that so like if we had a school that had you know 20 online kindergartners is that i mean just kind of explain to me how that how that works with additional additional staff what we're looking at is is a major concern that was was presented throughout the year to be totally honest um would just be the instruction model actually you saw it in jeff's in jeff's presentation with the swivel and trying to balance between the two so the idea is to is to provide teachers to just handle the virtual kids what it specifically looks like is really we're working on a couple plans because it's going to be dependent upon how many kids are there so we may have bands at the elementary level so a teacher the virtual teacher may in fact have two or three grade levels so we're going to work out those details but they would be dedicated i'll say this hesitantly they'll be dedicated solely to the virtual if we're at such a high number let's just say 97 in person then we may we may make adjustments uh for how they're utilized however note that there are some bills passing the legislature right now one in particular that will provide opportunities and avenues to either do distance learning hybrid learning or virtual learning in a manner very similar to this year and get 100 percent um adm and so we may look at a part of hashtag forward is anytime anyplace anywhere for for teaching kids and for kids learning and so we may look to use some of these individuals to push some of the ideas that we're trying with hashtag forward so there's a little bit of flex on what we do with it but it's it's designed first of all to take care of the virtual kids then second all depending on the numbers we may make some adjustments but it would then just allow us to to possibly even do a pilot program with hashtag ford and see how we get kids doing both virtual and person at the same time and kind of the idea is to make sure that a teacher is not teaching yes both virtual and the impression at the same time yep they will not be next year the teacher in the classroom uh why i shouldn't sit that way because the the virtual people will be in the classroom but if you're teaching virtual that's all you'll have if you're teaching in person that's all you'll have okay i have a question in order for this to be successful we really need a grasp on how many kids will be virtual right how do we get accurate numbers and what is the responsibility of parents to get that information to us that's the difficulty um uh if if we go based on uh what we've done since the pandemic uh we won't have accurate numbers until they show up on july 26th whites of their eyes we will continue to work they're already doing it there's a number of things that are taking place beginning in next week we're going to do online registration getting parents to to fill out the forms so we'll have an idea who the students are that are are going to be in our system our principals are currently working with parents to see what the idea is when they come back the biggest problem is we had anticipated there might be a slight spike coming out of spring break call today with pinal county health said they have not seen it anywhere in the county so all of a sudden you may be thinking before spring break well i'm not sure if i'll bring my kid back next year because i'm anticipating this while coming out of spring break and now you might have a totally different solution even someone who's a little hesitant today or even july june 1st may make a different decision on july 15th so we're we're going to con continue to communicate but that is a big unknown we would anticipate given the numbers of kids we have right now in the system attending in person that we will be in the 95 90 95 range for in-person learning next year we still want to give the option of virtual just because uh there's some individuals that will like virtual for any number of reasons um but that is our big problem we'll keep asking but honest to goodness i believe it'll be july 26 when they walk at the door when we really figure out what our final numbers are so i guess one last question so let's just take one school for example if we have that total number of students at that school and they had 10 teachers the number of students didn't necessarily increase and you have both online and and in person are you going to take the teachers there and you know distribute you know evenly i mean does that make sense i mean yeah i'm not i think so what we'll do is is um because that teacher and because it's virtually is we would anticipate that that one teacher could be taking all the second and third graders for all the schools in the district and being the teacher of record for all of those kids and doing it online they may be doing it from a classroom in school you know at symington but they would be actually teaching all of the kids are online so we anticipate that that the 95 percent will collectively pull all the kids together high school middle school slightly different problem we have to deal with um but but that's where we anticipate that we'll be readjusting what that individual looks like high school middle school you may have if i have a math teacher you may have some where the job is both virtual for this period but then another period they may be in person just because that's the way the schedule worked out our issue will be once we hire these people and hand them contracts it's not as simple to say adios you don't get it so we're going to have to adjust once we once we make the hires uh and then adjust what what their work uh job looks like um and so that'll be the that'll be the the piece that we'll have to work on over the next several months right so that that was kind of my next question are you gonna like higher first and then hope we can figure it out or no i mean as needed right i think this is the first step now that we have approval with this i mean bruce and and and the committee have been working on it already but now that we have a formal this is it move forward now we're going to try to button it up it's it's that tough spot of trying to close out this year and open up next year and so um uh we will not wait till july 1 to advertise because then obviously we lose but we'll make a decision in the next month about what do we think it's going to take and we might do an initial set of advertising um brainstorming here but initial set of advertising and do some hiring and there may be a second stage just based on what we're seeing as potential return the number of students that are returning but but there is a little bit of unknown as we move forward with this says uh are we good yeah all right take a motion i move to approve the additional staff through the throughout the district for the 2021-2022 school year as presented second all in favor aye aye motion carries five to zero uh technology infrastructure upgrade okay again this was presented the one thing uh at the last board meeting the one thing you will see is some of the numbers as we get hard bids come in we'll come in at slightly different numbers uh and so therefore you will see i think i was we were projecting out a slightly lower number for the virtual servers i think it was around 150 and it came in at 220.

which is now enough to house the 3764 students again you will notice that if this were to begin next year um even though it's a phase-in but the total capacity would be at 98.87 uh then it goes down to 97.58 then it goes down to 97.16 and we continue down the years as we continue to project declining enrollment in yellow you'll see um the three elementary sites that in this model right here model for the way that we are bringing forward as an idea that would those three schools would be eventually phased out in this model as would the three middle schools center slauson and foothill so on the left hand side is how this was built on the right hand side then is okay now that we built it what does it look like to happen over the course of three years so for dalton ellington and powell that means that next school year if this were be to begin next school year if not the following year uh they would just not take any new enrollment so they wouldn't lose kids per se in the first year they're just not taking new enrollment so they become grades one through six schools ellington becomes a grade one through eight school the subsequent year though not only are they not taking new enrollment we would also have to transfer out or transition out um students who would have become first and second graders and so then those schools would remain third grade up the following year we would transition third and fourth grade students so those schools will remain five fifth grade up the following year these sites would not have any students on them anymore at the middle schools uh nothing would happen in year one in year two our seventh graders would not be on the sites and then unlike elementary schools in this plan right now in the third year the middle schools would now be closed at the bottom you see the the uh six elementary uh school sites um you'll see that they are unchanged they just be they just remain tk6 schools the only difference is all along these three years they will begin to get larger and larger every year because they'll start taking the kids or the students from dalton allington and powell at our 7 12s you will notice that nothing happens in year one in year two they welcome the seventh graders and in year three they become they become a full-blown seventh through twelfth grade school this is a lot of information packed into one in one slide so what we're going to do now is we're going to allow um if there are any we're going to allow some clarifying questions okay clarifying questions um so what we're what we are what we are uh um asking is that your questions be about understanding uh the model okay so um what we mean by that is you know you might ask a question like um uh can you can you go over once again uh how the capacity came up that's a that's a clarifying question that you want to get clarified so you can understand the model or can you help me understand again in 23 24 when it says third and fourth grade transition what does that mean that's a clarifying question you're trying to understand the model a not clarifying question or a non-clarifying question would be um why did you choose hodge over dalton that's not a clarifying question or can we please keep ellington open and move paramount to be closed that's not a clarifying question i promise you that we will get to that there will be space to have all all of those iterations and all those ideas but right now it's really just about clarifying questions if you were to have any if you do please unmute yourself and go ahead and ask your question question yes um the yellow highlight on the left of the screen that says dalton ellington and powell are those numbers that are next to the school their maximum capacity or is there that the number they have now good question thank you yes that is also their capacity so just like those schools on the top where you see 654 507 566 801 654 and uh thus that's their capacity uh their maximum capacity okay second question and this is not a can we swap this for that i'm using an example okay um so you said that at each of the schools the elementaries that are listed at the top hodgley magnolia et cetera that is going to include a four classrooms potentially a library a potential vapa class and then two tbd right okay awesome pardon me almost okay six classrooms because the two preschool classrooms and two preschool okay but two are tbd and so technically speaking it is possible that you could increase the capacity of those other schools by putting students in the tbd rooms right that is 100 true okay thank you for that clarification i appreciate that anyone else have a question a clarifying question [Music] okay so this objective uh so check check check so far um again this was the easy one in terms of understanding how it works um so now we're going to move on uh to model uh to model three wells gabriel has a question oh i'm so sorry do the enrollment projections include the influence of of uh what's occurred this last year in terms of enrollment um if you are alluding to uh the pandemic um i will let latasha answer that question so uh the enrollment projection is based off our normal trend so not anticipating us having an influx of students leaving because of the pandemic or coming back because of the pandemic thank you sir all right model 3 is a little bit more complicated than model 4 due to all of the butts that are attached to this model uh per uh your recommendations so in order to navigate model three properly um i am going to leave the google slide and i am going to move or transition to a google sheet so let me see if i can do that properly thumbs up if you see my sheet now my google sheet yes okay awesome do you still see my google sheet okay cool thank you all right so once again um just want to reiterate that nothing you see here is set in stone nothing you see here is cemented uh nothing you see here um is what um what what we are espousing to be the the best and the greatest that's why you are here to give input and to help us out through this process so what you see here is our tk5 model 3 and again it's going to get really complicated so i'm going to try to uncomplicate it as much as possible okay all right so just like model 4 at the top um at the top left hand here uh you will see that in this tk5 we need 3250 we need to house 302 3251 students so we needed 3 300 students i'm sorry we needed to house them again starting with the largest capacity elementary schools these five schools listed here were able to house the 3251 this is a phase so we know that this doesn't happen in year one but let's pretend that it did it would still be at 98.52 and slowly decreasing and as we go through the years the same thing in this tk5 model there is no way because remember now we're losing sixth graders so they got to go back to middle school there's no way that we can have one middle school as they currently are structured so because we have 3251 tk5 students that means we would have 1593 6 through 8 students and so we need to be able to house 1593.

and delegation of authority to accept service of process on behalf of the governing board dr kellis thank you madam president members of the board of members of cabinet the board may recall that this was a conversation that was had previously that would allow a district representative to receive legal service that is typically court documents or subpoenas or notifications of lawsuits and all the other things that are are delivered directly to board members that a representative of the district could receive those documents on behalf of the board members it was shared during that conversation that sometimes those process servers can be invasive into the private lives of board members and to avoid any discomfort that those could be directed directly to the district office during office hours and then provided to the board and subsequently then the district representative would make sure that the board members receive those documents as soon as possible is this one of those items where when we vote it's actually going to be a policy it would be as policy it's not in the policy manual but any action of the board is policy so i would just say if it's going to be an actual policy i would just um ask that and i know you'd said normally it's like within an hour or two but i would hope that we could write something like within 24 hours just to keep that communicate like if i there's only one time when i've really had an issue with the process server coming to my house at i don't know 10 o'clock at night so i'm fine with uh delegating someone else but i definitely would want to know like that day i would i mean if we're going to be sued especially if we're named i just i would want to know so um that's the only thing i would ask is if it's going to be a policy that we indicate that president miss pritchard i appreciate the the request for expedited notification i don't know that we can guarantee the 24 hours just again never say never and always never say always but if it's delivered on the at the end of the day on friday um it might not get until monday the next business day i mean like whoever receives it i'm sorry like so if you receive it on friday can you just send an email to the board saying hey we've received notice it's at the district we would make every effort to do so but there's no guarantee that it will happen within minutes or hours if it if we got it on five o'clock and everybody's gone for the day it might not happen until monday and just because that could be you know if it's something big and we hear it and not hear about it until like through the grapevine with the community i guess for that reason then i'm fine just having it delivered directly i always like to i'd rather not be blindsided i guess is what it is that's just my opinion so on the flip side of that just say for instance if we did approve this change tonight that's not necessarily a hundred percent either right so just because we voted in doesn't mean that the process server is not going to zoom behind my car and block me in i'm president that's correct now that that's ever happened well they have our home addresses we definitely cannot make policy that our home network extends beyond the boundaries of our districts so i just for clarification i feel like this is just so louisa can or whoever can accept this on our behalf it's not concrete that it has to happen we're giving her authority to do so so i don't feel like it's concrete like it has to be this way every time i i feel like we're just giving her the authority to say yep i got it and let us know madame president miss chaff and that's absolutely correct oftentimes a process server will come to the district with a pack of six or seven copies and say can i just leave these with you um it's a convenience um that you're absolutely right it doesn't have to happen we could be very sticklers about it and say no we're not accepting these on behalf of the board and you have to take it to their house this just gives permission for luisa to receive them if they bring a whole stack of them if the board wants to receive them personally that can also happen they you know our addresses are public and they could easily come to our house and then they could easily say member crystal chaffin and i even received one that had my husband's name on it also so it wasn't at 10 o'clock at night but they could still deliver it but yes i would say yes as soon as um one of them receive it they'll notify us still going to be up in the air they still could catch us catch her in the parking lot park behind her so i'll entertain a motion on this if before you do that i just have one sure to clarify the motion it the motion says to accept service on behalf of the governing board to the governing board secretary but down here we say to the board secretary and general counsel or his or her designee shouldn't that be in the in the motion as well his or her designee and president miss grant you can certainly add that to the motion just to for clarification that if the board secretary is not available because it says the board secretary and his or her designee um that way if you're out whoever else is in charge okay then i will move okay to approve the delegation of authority to accept service on behalf of the governing board to the governing board secretary and to general counsel or his or her designee to accept service of process i'll second call for the vote motion passes [Music] uh action item seven approval to pilot envision integrated mathematics by pearson savas dr kellis thank you madam president members of the board members of cabinet dr pulling will introduce this item yes good evening madam president members of the board dr kelsey cabinet occasionally we'll bring forth a pilot program which is a limited use of curriculum for certain purposes and so to study to see what we learn and if that's something we want to do a full adoption on so this item is requesting use of an integrated math program this combines problem solving learning visual learning to deepen students conceptual understanding of math there's no cost associated and that pilot would be a k4 el mirage and also algebra 1 2 geometry for grades 9 12 and at this time that would be at willow canyon so that's the purpose and so i'm happy to entertain any questions i do have a question how does that align with our graduation requirements i want to make sure that when if we pilot this course next year you know because it kind of sounds like it just rolls everything into one like they're just continuously learning algebra 1 with geometry algebra 2 and geometry how does that fulfill our current graduation requirements i don't want our students to be up a creek no they would not they would not be in a bad spot so students next year would be enrolled in algebra 1 2 or in geometry 1 2 and these concepts this curriculum would be woven into those courses so they would be receiving credits for algebra 1 2 geometry and that goes towards the you know four years of of math curriculum and what will be studied is and to what degree should we be do we need to be doing a better job of integrating the math concepts because you know um act pst prep they're not discreet exams of geometry and algebra they're integrated which is more real life as well so really the purpose is the students have been enrolled in these courses but it would be studying and learning what what does integrated mean what does it look like what can we learn from it and how will that inform next year's math adoption because we do need to go out for new math materials that um that support the standards so the students would earn their credits and this would be infusing an integrated curriculum into those courses madam president chapman the graduation requirement is four credits of math it's not algebra geometry algebra calculus so the state standards are such that they are are sequenced but we could have a student who never takes algebra because they jumped over it tested out of it and started their freshman year with geometry and then moved on and ended up with trigonometry so the course specific titles are not graduation requirements but the state does require the four credits so who who exactly what are the classes again you said it's going to be algebra one two geometry and algebra three four slash geometry how are the classes going to be structured and what grade levels so just for next year it would be um outdoor one two and then geometry um which is tip we have typically ninth to tenth grade and um i paused because we have eighth graders who take algebra one so they would be freshmen taking geometry but it would be open to grades 9 through 12 but typically that's freshman sophomores and it's for algebra one two and geometry so algebra one two are together and then geometry is the separate course or it's algebra one two slash geometry other separate courses um algebra one two is a one year of algebra and then geometry is a year of geometry and this curriculum so in a strict geometry class they're still gonna have algebra one and two but not three and four if how does that work again sorry i'm not sure i'm following you i'm sorry okay madam president miss chapman so algebra one two is typically considered the freshman course algebra won the first semester algebra 2 the second semester algebra 3 4 is often a junior level course which is taken into sequence it goes algebra 1 2 geometry and then algebra 3 4.

um but generally speaking these two these two uh infrastructure increases were within the range of what we had presented uh but one little bit more expensive one a little bit uh uh cheaper and so it's still within the the we still have the funding available through essers it is still the rationale for why we need it is still the same as what we presented but i do want to point out the numbers moved a little bit and that's probably going to happen on any number of issues as we move forward we did the best estimate for what we had for for target things but once you get them to give you a bid sometimes it changes on you a little bit but i would go ahead and recommend approval as presented any questions on that no all right take a motion all right i moved to approve the purchase of upgrades to the district technology infrastructure under the one gpa contract as presented do i have to read all the numbers no you're fine you have to read the whole thing yep yes gpa contracts dash i'll take a second i second all right all in favor motion carries five to zero uh discussion consideration of approval wireless access points this is a little bit of an increase as we as we talked about um moving to one to one one of the things that came up in the leadership meeting was the notion of access points that an availability of access points and how many we needed and so a little bit higher than what we anticipated again the funding is available under the essers so there's not a problem with that i just point out that so the totality of the last agenda item in this agenda item is slightly higher than what was presented last uh at the last meeting i think the presentation last meeting was 150 and i want to say 550 i could be off on my numbers so you run about 800 i think with these all three together you're you're running mid-eights to uh to maybe just short of 900 000.

so here are again kind of following the same mentality our largest school is foot heel so that's 12 36 but if we if we're looking to house 1593 and foothill already can house although we could have chosen a slauson or a center the reason ellington was chosen was because it keeps us at this high 90 capacity of 97.97 the reason i want to go to google slides to show you um what what this means so let's pretend that instead we wanted this to be center us being the team that that created this by adding center there you'll notice that the capacity drops to 71.76 immediately right and so i wanted to explain to you why we are in this idea in this iteration think that ellington would be the second middle school a six eight boss the number didn't change for us you're not seeing this live right here center do you see me typing center no no i don't maybe it's just me i'm sorry nobody sees that uh i'm gonna type my name right here artudo do you see that no sir no oh it says your your screen is paused um why is my screen paused um lika do you know do i do you know why it's paused i did not know that was possible um resume share should i hit resume share yeah hit resume share do you see my sheet i do see your sheet okay so here 18 do you see me typing center now yes sir okay great so so so i'm sorry so here's center right if we put center here then that drops the capacity to 71.76 right from the bat and as declining enrollment continues um just in three years we're down to 65.99 or 66 percent so that is why as we were building this we we figured that ellington seemed like a better site it already houses uh six through eight currently um and if we're looking at capacity that seemed to be uh the best choice of course right and we're going to get to this i promise you plugging in any of these sites right would would also get us to a number like that again this is our first iteration our first idea of how we're doing that so tk5 to do a tk5 you must have either two middle schools or you're going to get rid of this ellington here and you're going to go to foothill and we're going to drop more modulars or more relocatables to increase their capacity so that they can house the 1593 capacity right but without doing all that construction right now arlington is what we are saying we're bringing we're bringing forth okay i'm gonna i'm gonna stay right now through eighth grade okay so now that this is built now that we built this then we said okay well what does it look like how does that work so again you will notice that three years nothing changes from the from the first model that we saw so one grades one and up year one three and up year two five and up year three year four elementaries um cease to exist the elementaries though year one nothing happens to them but year two they will not keep their their their fifth graders from year one because there will be no more sixth grade so that happens in year two center and slauson same thing as before year one nothing happens year two they have eighth graders by year three unlike elementary schools they are now closed these are the schools that remain open nothing happens year one year two and beyond they remain tk5 foothill year one nothing happens year two they welcome sixth graders and they become a six eight and they say a six eight ellington is the only one that has a lot of changes because year one they'll be one through eight year two they'll be three to eight year three they'll be five to eight and then year four you don't see it here they become a just a six eight middle school and then um that's that's kind of the way the way this one this one works i'm going to come back to the high schools but for right now again i want to pause for a quick second these are just clarifying questions to help you understand how this model 3 works for a tk5 okay now i'm going to shift to model 3 tk6 because i want i want i want you to have tk5 and tk6 in your head so here's uh tk6 so um with a tk6 that means that the middle school is a seven eight so we start with seven eight how many seventh and eighth graders do we have one thousand eighty all right what's the largest capacity site foothill they're at 1236 they can house the seventh and eighth graders so that's a that's an easy decision well if we have seventh and 8th graders here only that means that here up here in the elementary we have to house tk6 well that number is now 3764.

um and so algebra 3 4 the three part of that is typically the first semester of junior year and the fourth part is the second semester of the the junior year if i'm following your question correctly yes yes you are thank you and i'm just curious how this is going to fit into all of that like what are the courses that are are those the exact courses that are going to be with the integrated math yes those the pilot courses those are the pilot courses um and then another quick question about uh the galileo there was mention of galileo tests are the galileo tests do they have them for this integrated math they would need to be created by either the teacher or curriculum specialist um galileo is just an assessment tool and so they would they would need to be created if that is what they would choose to use okay so our benchmark galileo is going to align with the math curriculum the integrated as we see it yes all right thank you and this is only going to be done piloted at el mirage correct el mirage and then at this time willow canyon willow canyon for the 9th or 12th okay all right gotcha and for the year no cost correct okay is that um a pilot cost of zero dollars or is that there's no cost going forward would there be a cost for something like that if we were to implement it for all schools yes okay yes this this item is just asking um one year to pilot it and it'd be free for this one year for these limited numbers of classrooms yes if it would be a cost thereafter okay i know you said that it doesn't impact graduation but what about university requirements you know to go into certain universities you have to have the certain title of algebra or whatever so this will not affect those students that going into a university or college or community college madam president member grant as dr kellis um stated earlier that the requirement for graduation is four years of math however there certain universities may have prescriptive requirements for example if if you are wanting to obtain entrance into an ivy league school um you're going to need higher levels of mathematics um than just algebra however this would fulfill the requirements for graduation or it would it would not impede the requirements for graduation and those students who are looking at specific universities that have higher entrance exams they work specifically with their counselors and we would assure that that would happen as well so that they don't find themselves deficient in credit opportunities for entrance into the universities i just want to make sure because you said willow canyon for the 9th through 12th we need to make sure that that because the reason i asked it was not part of the recommended action so do we need to mention that it is going to be at willow canyon i guess i would ask to leave the original action i just mentioned willow canyon is it it's kind of the first one on the mind but if we could leave the original action that would be open for all students 9 through 12 that would be helpful at all schools at all schools okay just to give the teams and the teachers as they're they're still working on this and you know we're in april and so just give some time in case another teacher signs on or it works out okay all right i'm sorry i'll make a motion to approve the pilot of envision integrated map by pearson savas for grades k-4 at el mirage elementary and envision integrated algebra 1-2 and geometry for grades 9-12 for the 2021-2022 school year either one second if i miss grant okay um motion passes moving to item eight approval to pilot the world history project instructional resource by oer project oops dr kellis madam president members of the board and members of cabinet dr pauline will introduce this item yes good evening madam president members of the board dr phil's cabinet another request is to pilot world history project oer is a term called open educational resources and that is just a generic term of curriculum that is available and is free for districts to use and so it's a kind of an open copyright license and so this request came district staff talked to department heads got some input there was interest in piloting a program that we would use from 15th century forward in world history course and that you know really to deepen students understanding world history reading video activities aligns with arizona social studies standards and again there's no fees associated with this pilot uh teachers we receive training as part of the pilot from the foundation and um i believe the executive summary standards crosswalks was sent to the board and so i'm i'm ready to stand for any questions you mentioned that the teacher training would be funded by the foundation can you share which foundation that is uh through the gates foundation thank you okay um and so with the the concept of the oer i guess my question concern is so that's in a sense just for an example like a catalog that you can pick and choose which resources you would like to use right to teach a particular piece of history no um so oer is just kind of a generic term for curriculum that's been written and it's not copyrighted or it's copyrighted as an open copyright and so oer is is sort of a generic or industry term for curriculum that's been written that could be freely used by teachers okay and so madam president just to give an example several years ago dicer partnered with the vail unified school district and we had the teachers meet together and they came up with some instructional materials that both districts liked and and implemented and that was called oer open education resource so rather than paying the exorbitant publisher fees um we were able to personalize the curriculum and and make it meet our own wants and wishes so that teachers will be following the uh kind of the scope sequence that was shared with the board in terms of what lessons what activities moving forward 15th century forward and um and so they'll be following that that curriculum through the training and then again a pilot where you study and to see um you know how that how impactful that is and how that works yeah the scope and sequence was shared with us but like not like actual examples of you know the learning materials so um that's where some of my concern was at um madam president just on that note that's kind of the purpose of the pilot is that it brings those materials forward to see is this what we want before we come back next year to do a full adoption um there are materials right now on display for the public to review and and give feedback on that's by statute that we have some things we've already approved though no for pilot um things that um before we bring for formal board adoption we go through a pilot process and part of that is that they have to be on display for the public to to view and give and give feedback on so we haven't gotten to that point yet okay for this history so there aren't materials but the oer allows the district to sample some instructional materials and if it works well and that fits our needs then meets the state standards it does what it's supposed to do then that's something that we would bring forward later for a proposed adoption or it may be that it's a complete failure and we say we don't want this we'll pilot something else sometimes districts will have multiple pilots going on at different schools and then identify which of the pilots works the best and make a recommendation based on on that so i know that the that this particular resource is broken up into two different sections um and you're we're going with the 15th century 15th century forward is our purpose of the pilot and so what was the what was the rationale behind that with not using the first piece of it the origins that's a good question my assumption is that it's just kind of fitting in with what the curriculum we need in the in the pilot and what we want to use it for but i could get you more information on the rationale so so my personal concern is that the first piece of it called origins is based on the big bang theory which omits any references to creation so i understand that we're not using that which is great but my concern is if it's all one big timeline how is that not intertwined with with the 15th century piece you know i i just don't know if there's any references to it or what that looks like so that's not something that i'm comfortable approving my president that would be with that uh feedback and certainly as the board has the conversation and we would take the board's feedback and take that back to the teachers who are part of the history curriculum committee and they could consider other materials in addition or instead of i do have some questions sorry okay my concern is this is all about stories because i went to the website i watched each youtube video on that and i actually looked into project x i did significant this is all based on stories okay i think one of the quotes is the stories are organized thematically and with urgent no around urgent world topics like global population greenhouse gas emissions and war and peace so this is all about stories and narrative to me it feels like they're trying to rewrite history saying here's a story now take your personal input and tell me you know how you view this story okay history is history it's facts it's the good the bad and the ugly you know i can't change what happened in the past all i can do is learn from it so that to me is a huge red flag i feel like this is a dangerous path for us to go on if we're talking about narratives and stories and it's also talking about accounts based on particular perspectives you know and one quote was talking about big picture historical stories providing a cohesive backdrop that lets students construct their historical understanding and involves their perspective it just sounds like it's saying hey you know what history is what you want it to be despite what facts say thank you for your feedback we certainly um you know want history courses are factually based and that's certainly our goal but so thank you for your feedback so because i didn't um i didn't do that in-depth research today as far as looking into the um the youtube videos and everything but is this then along the line i know like over um the summer and there was a time when the whole concern about 1619 project all that was being talked about and being brought into schools is this along that same line or is that part of this i think it's very similar because 1619 project was based off of stories and i feel like this is based off of stories too i mean they've got all these quotes pick their stories apart analyze them and test their claim that's when students can build their own frame or their own lens you know it's it's all about stories and it says some of these tools are research based others are derived from the experience of our greatest world history teachers so it's not even all based off of research that's those are serious concerns that i have so just just to piggyback off of what you just said um you know they say that history is written written by the winners but when you look at history through different lenses and you're gonna get two different sides of the story but you know i mean i know it's not american history it's world history we're talking about but at the same time i i just think it takes us down a dangerous road and and it's not teaching from the right perspective that that we need our kids to have that that basis of understanding and then it's like you know once they got to college okay do what you want you know so and you know you can go and learn all your you know crazy world or you know like global history type of things but i i to go down like a globalist mentality in high school i just think is or should be alphabets to us okay so question um because right in the first paragraph is talking about a deep understanding of world history i'll come back to where it says through readings videos and and activities so is this aligned because it says it's aligned with the vast majority of arizona high school history and social science standards it is aligned with the standards so the standards are not um and just refresh my memory because i don't have the standards up in here they are not based on um someone's interpretation of it is the standards come from the state and so the state we implement those they're factual how is this different than curriculum we've had in the past that was going to be my next question like why are we introducing why are we what about this program is worth piloting how is it different that's a good question i think um i certainly have the content experts come back to take a deep dive into you know how it's different day-to-day and whatnot you know that the teachers and the teams are are looking you know for new curriculum and you know is there some better curriculum for students for learning and and so part of it's based on that but i can certainly bring you more information madam president given the discussion i would recommend that we table this item and bring it back for another uh another presentation i'll move that we table the pilot of the world history project instructional resources by oer project do i have a second um i'll second as far as bring stuff back yes she did it right okay um rewriting the uh hmm tracy you can vote now now you have the motion to table in there motion to table the pilot of the world history project okay all right motion passes sorry okay next we have a request for future agenda items all right i'll wait on that item j1 call for executive session it will motion to convene to an executive session meeting is adjourned adjourned oh sweet

so it's about 50 to 100 000 more but again it's within the essers funding and it is critical for us to be able to run um the one-to-one computing that that we have the access points in all the elementary classrooms any questions comments no okay all right i'll take a motion all right i moved to approve the purchase additional wire access points as presented well second all in favor aye aye motion um okay consideration of replacement of i i'm at computers for chs cte lab is those two or am i missing sometimes this is a new request um part of what we said if you remember we had a conservative budget that we built based on essers dollars and we're still waiting on the final dollars that come out of essers uh but uh even in our our uh effort to make sure that we looked holistically across the district i will tell you that as you make this presentation and you make it to a variety of different groups all of a sudden uh people's eyes get a little bit bigger and say what about what about what about so you may have some things that come across over the next couple months because there's new issues that maybe people hadn't expressed quite as eloquently as we needed and this would be one of them it's a design it's a needed um fix up uh john you can correct me if i'm uh right or wrong or chris but it's been several years since the replacement and because of the covert last year the replacement didn't take to take place we had and we will present them at the next board meeting but we had four kids uh compete and win at the national level uh in that in those programs uh but we need to have uh state-of-the-art uh computers and this is a situation where we thought it was just critical get those computers in given some of the flat or slightly declining federal fund budgets meaning cte title one title two etc we chose to look at essers dollars to to pick this up and we decided to go with the top of the line versus the lesser one because that way if those dollars aren't available then these particular computers have the new intel chips in them and that would would make sure that they if there's upgrades they will have had the latest and greatest so i would recommend approval as presented i do have a question i'm sorry i didn't notice this earlier um usually the initiated buy and submitted by fields are filled out and it doesn't have it on this one so could you do you have that information for us yeah i mean it'd be initiated by john uh and submitted by uh john strongham and myself okay it's just this it's just the cte lab what which um not that it matters but what what um classes are those oh that's what i figured okay okay any questions all right all right so i moved to approve the placement of imac computers for the cte program at chs as presented second all in favor hi hi aye motion carries five to zero all right discussion consider approval fencing on the district property north of ranch elementary oh i thought yeah so with this particular uh situation a lot of the the dirt that was moved for the building of the high school and uh these buildings here has been placed on the uh in the property north of ranch um it's a nice mound there was hope that that maybe that dirt could be used as part of the the 24 the construction of the 24 and be removed unfortunately the individuals that received or the company that received that bid was not interested in that dirt so we started to explore what do we do with that dirt because two things are happening number one you got lots of kids riding bikes atvs on that uh they kind of fly off the hills without really paying attention to what they're doing and there's going to be an accident injury also we now have conveniently become a dumping ground and so it looks like it's dump trucks that are coming because those are nicely formed little piles it's not like somebody shoveled them out of the back of a truck and it just continues to grow and grow and grow and now we also have people dumping trash and dumping all sorts of stuff on it and if we don't do something with it we looked at having it removed the dirt that'll be about 300 thousand dollars um if we related it not a bad idea but then that pad is now higher than it needs to be yet because there's enough dirt there that we would then mess up the flow of water on rain uh onto the adjoining properties in the roads so we can't just flatten it and so we're still working on trying to get someone to remove it free i just stumbled onto a possible solution just recently when i was talking to someone but but we haven't had a chance to discuss it in great detail even if we get rid of it if we don't fence it then it will still become a dumping ground and so we would like to move forward with fencing there will be gates so that we'll still have access to to the property uh when we need it so on graduation or something like that there'd be access to the the property if we needed to get uh access to the land lab or anything like that would still sell the dirt what's that or when we sell the dirt right or when we sell the dirt so uh so there'll be access to it uh to the property but for right now it's just becoming an eyesore and a potential uh accident waiting to happen okay how high is the fence going to be do we know that six feet okay high enough where you can't climb over it no i'm just thinking if it's if it's too short it's not gonna make any bigger difference and we're also recommending that the bar goes across the top so it's not one of those fences that doesn't have a bar across the top and the kids can just knock it down and then finally climb over it so so we'll put it up so if they have a difficult time getting in there barbed wire as well yeah i think it's a good idea cattle prods got them electric fencing electric yeah there you go whatever it takes i i've actually i've actually seen some teenagers and trucks driving on top of that thing yeah that's an accident waiting to happen yeah okay i'll take a motion if we have no more questions all right so i moved to approve the contract with phoenix fence to fence the property around the north ransom elementary school has presented second all in favor motion carries five to zero okay so we're at eight uh point thirteen um consideration for approval of the superintendent agreement for dr wyman um so did we just go right into 8.14 yep all right so i'm going to make a motion that we go into executive session [Music] second who was that it's me um favor all right i motion carries five to zero i assume that they can leave correct they don't need to stay okay they're so upset yeah don't go so fast dude look at that anybody want to trade one of their stickers for something else oh i don't have a snickers here's more oh okay then i can put these in and take stickers just for me thank you oh

so it's larger than it was in the tk5 model so in this model unlike tk5 lee we have to re-insert lee back into the mix right now and again we're gonna get to this in a few but right now with this model this tk6 only that dalton ellington and powell would be the schools that eventually would be phased out i do know and i do understand i'm going to talk about because one of the questions from this team was what does a model 3 look like with the tk8 what does it look like without a tk we're going to get that we're going to get to that in a second right now i just want you to understand tk5 versus tk6 and i want to point out that unless we are recommending construction in a tk5 model you will need two middle schools in a tk6 model you only need one middle school if this is about capacity which is what we have been talking about right of course of course in any of these models we can say keep all three middle schools but then we're moving away from our objective right so again this works the same um the only difference is that the schools that are phasing out here and the schools that are phasing in here have changed slightly i'm going to take a pause to see if you have questions about understanding model 3 only the tk6 only up to 8th grade component arturo i don't know if you can see me i can't see the bottom where the capacity numbers are for azusa high school and gladstone high school are you able to kind of scroll down a little bit so we can see that yes we're gonna get to that um when we move to the high school conversation okay um i i don't know if i if i'm taking a turn ahead of somebody you can tell me to stop and i'll wait um um none of these options has expressed a tk through eight option and i noticed um that that was one of the things that hadn't been entirely decided you know offering a tk8 in one of the models or not and so i'm wondering where that gets here or if i'm just not seeing it can you explain please yep um you're not seeing it because that is a conversation that will happen subsequently right now i just want to understand how a straightforward tk5 and a straightforward tk6 just just understand those models we still have to talk about tk no tk one middle school two middle schools one high school two high schools we will we will get to that right now just understanding how the model works right now and then then i'm going to ask you later okay do you understand with tka without tk8 then i'm going to say do you understand one middle school one high school damn is you know we're going to get to those conversations right now i just want you to understand how a straightforward tk5 tk6 model work without without these other variables okay so i'm sorry to ask you but with all of the information that you're sharing could you please just repeat that last piece then where you said if we have a tk through five model this is how many middle schools if it's tk's through six this can you just say that one more time please 100 100 thank you absolutely uh and you know what since since you since you brought up just for the for the purpose of the of the team and those that may be watching um so right now we are not talking about the other variables right now we're going to get to those variables middle schools high schools tk8s right now if we were just looking at this straightforward without those other variables a tk5 and tk6 so in a tk5 model which is what you're seeing right now you need two middle schools again to be super transparent well yes we could build on foothill and then you only need one right but that's a that's different but as things are right now you will need two middle schools if we were to go tk five and we weren't thinking about construction or anything like that but in a tk six model you only need one middle school because in this model foothill would be able to house the 1080 7th and 8th grade students okay may i ask a follow-up question then because it goes directly with with what you're saying about this um it was my understanding from what you said at the beginning of our meeting that the board had already i'm going to say approved certain um i'm going to say qualifications or or decisions that this group had made in order to move forward and one of those was not to have pk through fives but to have tk through sixes am i wrong about that piece okay can you clarify that because i um i thought that that part the way you said it meant that was a done deal so okay all right thank you i don't know okay thank you for the clarifying question yes um so as we were looking at our six meetings combined and uh the data sheets um on on one side meg i mean yes look it up here right up here if you look at column f um half of this team wanted or said they preferred a tk6 model and only 15 said they prefer a tk5 model but because this is only half and other things were like super resounding um we felt that we owed it to this team uh to to still bring this back and put a ribbon on it if you will um but but yes of the of the of the four buts that we are trying to think about today uh this one in terms of the data does seem like the one that that seems the most logical but again we don't want to assume um any of any of that uh right now but thank you for that terrifying question thank you for explaining that i appreciate it yeah any other questions in terms of understanding tk5 versus tk6 i have a question on the capacity for the middle schools um you're adjusting that uh to be six classes taken out as well however two of those classes would not be preschools so what would those additional two classes be good question um and i apologize for not um for not broaching that so no at the secondary schools uh it has been dropped to four schools i'm sorry to four classrooms instead of six at the um like the elementary at the middle schools and high schools that has been dropped uh to four any other questions regarding tk5 versus tk6 just understanding the model yeah do i have a question was that a tk 6 and tk5 option and then those percentage numbers was that is it related to model 4 or model 3 uh point me to to somewhere that where you say tk6 52 52.6 oh and then tk5 15.8 yes did we agree on those numbers based on model 4 or is that are those numbers based on model three those numbers are based on model three okay so the question was i like model three but i prefer it to be a tk6 or i like model 3 but i prefer it to be a tk5 and then the last one was i think i like model 3 and i can go either way and so that's why you don't see the 100 there any other questions regarding [Music] tk5 versus tk6 okay before we move on i want i want to give you a preview of next steps because this is where this becomes uh uber important tonight so far i know we're not completely done yet but you have seen piece one and piece two of the six pieces that we have been showing you so far so what did we show you uh we showed you the models that's piece one we showed you how it gets implemented that p that's piece two but what's missing is a support staff the programmatic um or potential programmatic benefits potential programmatic drawbacks and budgetary impact okay so that you don't see that yet model four again it's it's cut and dry i understand that we can still have lots of conversations about the school sites and we will have that but in terms of how the model works is cut and dry this one is not and so what we are hoping tonight is to try to land on a clearer model 3.

should it be tk5 or tk6 should include a tk not a tk should have one middle school two high two two middle schools one high school two high schools even if we can even if we can knock out two of those things that makes the next steps much easier because if not then think about every iteration that we would have to work on for you all which we can if that's what the team wants but we would have to show you a tk5 with no tk8 one middle school and one high school then a tk5 with yes a tk8 one middle school one high school then a tk5 with yes tka two middle schools and one high school then a tk5 with yes a tka two middle schools and so it's a lot of different iterations and there would be a lot of work and a lot of time to try to do that and so without forcing the issue again we're hoping to gain some clarity um and if we can even again even if two of these things get decided tonight that would make the next steps again stronger clearer and we can bring you more detailed information to continue to make decisions so with that being said i'm going to be bold right now and just again nothing is in cement here these are just this is just a process knowing that originally more than half of you all already had expressed that a tk6 would be the favored model knowing that only 15 of you all adamantly said that you wanted a tk5 model and now understanding how these two models might look like i want to reiterate we're not talking about schools right now we're just talking about how it works i'm going to take a poll and and the poll is very simple do you feel you do you feel you are ready to say or make a determination whether model 3 should be tk5 or should it be tk6 one more time that does not mean the school sites i'm not asking you do you agree with the school sites you see on the screen it's just uh it's just are you ready you personally to decide if this should be a tk5 or a tk6 so lika if you can put up that poll um so you are going to say yes if you are ready you feel that you are ready to decide between a tk5 and a tk6 you're going to say no i am not ready to decide between a tk5 and a tk6 and lika because i'm showing my screen i don't see the poles or anything so you have to kind of fill me is in a poll going up i don't see a poll i think she's working on it okay [Music] lika you're with us i'm going to stop sharing my screen for a quick second let me see oh rico is frozen okay we're gonna give her a quick minute to see if um if she can unfreeze herself she's gonna jump out of the meeting really quick [Music] false if you verbally state the question i can launch the poll but i cannot change the question uh yeah the poll should just be yes or no okay uh are you ready for me yep so one more time everyone uh you are saying yes i am i am ready to to decide if model 3 should be tk5 or tk6 you're gonna say no if um you are not ready to to give input on that and there's the poll it says hosts and tunnels can't vote i'm not able to vote it doesn't say i can vote and i think lika okay there you go try it now and i'm back but i see it now okay thank you it worked now i apologize i didn't hit panelists pay for effort still a couple more people we're still waiting on some again you are clicking yes if you are um ready to decide if model 3 should be tk5 or tk6 you're voting no if you are not ready to make that recommendation or decision looks like we should still have four more people to vote not counting us how many how many votes do you have 26 so far and miss michelle wasn't voting that 26 is more than we have team members you want to share this the statistics with us we may have an extra then yeah hang on a second can you see it uh let me know when you can see it it ended on my end can you see it now yes okay thank you all right so 85 of this group um is ready to move forward uh to recommend model 3 to be a tk5 or a tk6 um with i know that we have 15 uh that said they are not um so again just uh throwing that out there uh to the team with such a high number um of 85 percent um can we move forward to a second poll now and the second poll would be um can you type in questions like does the question have to be yes no or can you type in um uh choices um i can i think i can type in choices okay great uh so so so can we move forward then to do a poll to decide if model 3 should be a tk5 or a tk6 um unmute yourself if you are not in agreement with that okay lika uh you can start working on the poll uh once again everyone uh what you are voting on i'm gonna read and i know i sound like a broken broken record but remember you're not voting on the school sites we're not talking about that right now we're just talking about the tk6 model or the tk5 model um so um the choices will be tk6 that'll be choice one choice and the other choice will be tk5 it won't let me edit while the meeting's in progress so it has to be yes no well that's fine and dandy um okay that's fine we're gonna uh we're all flexible um so if you just say tk through five is a yes and tk through six is the no response like that's an answer okay i mean just an option thought that's easier yeah but in order to do that just give me one quick second uh does everyone see a blank piece of paper no yes yes okay all right oops okay we have to use our brains here uh because it sounds sounds opposite or it sounds a little off here but um i may have been able to figure it out tell me what appears on on the screen yay okay you did it you did it okay even better forget this piece of paper um all right so so again one more time uh just so we're on the same on the same page here um you are not voting on schools you're not deciding schools right now your vote is not going to um influence uh schools or or you know not nothing like that this is just the model and i promise you we will get to the other pieces okay so the question is do you prefer model 3 to be tk5 click on tk5 you prefer model 3 to be tk 6 click on tk6 sorry arthur why does it say no on tk6 i'm just a little confused still don't worry about that that's gone oh okay thank you can you say that again the question uh the question again yes thank you so you're going to click on tk5 if you believe that model 3 should should should be tk5 that should be the model you're going to click on tk6 if you believe that model 3 should be tk6 and once again this has nothing to do with the school sites that you saw that can all be influenced and changed okay we have 23 votes in so far i believe that's what it is i if i'm not mistaken i think we had one participant not here got it i will end this and share this okay uh well i would say that that is resounding so based on this we are going to move forward with no longer looking at tk5s in model 3.

model 3 is still alive but now it'll only be tk6 okay so let me move on to the next phase thank you uh so much again to this team i'm going to reiterate what we said in the beginning um everyone in this room is a human and this is not easy and so i appreciate um the the decisions and your objectivity moving forward um with with this okay so now i'm going to reshare my screen i believe where is it up here and i'm going to do this one do you see my sheets once again yes okay all right so we are not no longer looking at model three uh we are now oops let me do one more thing there we go uh we are now looking at uh and i'm going to go ahead and just highlight this so we know that that is done um now we're just focusing on tk6 so we have a couple of other um pieces on the table that this team wondered about right we we have been calling them butts um and the next one that if we just if we just look at the data not saying one not making a judgment call we just look at the data the next one that seemed to be the closest to maybe a decision or not a decision um was if there should be a tk8 or not a tk8 but i am going to i believe um i'm looking at the clock uh it is 646 which means we only have 14 minutes left um so latasha i'm gonna put you on the spot here um i think i think it makes sense to go to should we do tk8 because then we have to do a lot of maneuvering or should we just do one middle school two middle schools um i think we should go one middle school two middle schools and then the tk8 will fall out meaning it will fall into place based on the decision to see the need on capacity okay and and if we run out of time we run out of time um and that's the justice the way it'll go um so all right this thing again i don't we don't want to make any assumptions right but originally when we did this you had we had 58 uh of this group uh saying that they only wanted one at one middle school we had 26.3 percent that said they wanted two middle schools that means that there were 58 percent of you that said you can go either way that's a lot of people that said they can go either way right almost 60 percent so let's go back to this real quick we already know we're going tk six done deal if we go tk six that means there are only 1080 projected seventh grade seventh and eighth graders next school year and that keeps dropping over time if we only have 1080 students to house next year thinking about our facilities foothill would be able to house those 1080.

i have a clarifying question yes i'm sorry um and maybe i need to wait until after you talk about the options here but you know when we're deciding you know one middle school or two does that preclude us from saying the second middle school could be part of the k-8 because really like for example and this is just a hypothetical but if you're saying you need space for 1080 and and you think that okay you're gonna have atk through eight somewhere then a hundred kids from that 1080 are going to come off potentially and then and then the people who want a k-8 option could have that and you still could have that what was it 980 fitted either any of the three middle schools then does that make sense i just that's why i'm asking about the k-8 option because that affects the middle school number 1000 that makes sense yeah no it does it does make sense um and again i'm just worried about time we're down to 11 minutes so um why don't we do this why don't we do this um so to finish off h and i'll go back to what meg was alluding to in a second right if we just went straight tk sixes we're not worried about tkhs it right now for a quick second we have 1080 right um foothill can can grab those kids for that matter slauson can grab those kids center could not grab those kids that's this right here we were to introduce a tk8 into the mix then by default right we would have to add that school up here it actually doesn't have to be ellington but for right now let's call it ellington it could be any any other school but what we do know absent this name arlington right it could be any other of these other schools down here but what we do know is that currently our tka sits at 390.

right capacity right if we do that the capacity goes to 89.68 then to meg's point this 1080 has to drop uh miss latasha do you know how many seventh and eighth graders um at ellington no sir and we and we wouldn't want to do that um because every person would have the option and so now we will be making a projection on unknown information so it would be better to just make the decision on if there's going to be two middle or one and if you're going to have a tk8 because you can see that if you add the tk8 which goes into the 4197 your capacity goes you're at 89 and you slowly drop down to 88 and you can still have a middle but the question would be do we want one middle or two or do you want a tk8 because you know you have enough capacity without adding the tk8 could i say something real quick too yes uh when we did our last poll regarding having a tk5 or a tk6 i voted based off of the model that you showed where we would only have one middle school because it keeps an extra elementary school open if we change that and we're going to have two middle schools my vote for a tk6 would change to a tk5 i don't know if that affects anybody else but for me personally that made a difference in my vote my recommendation would be to vote on the number of middle schools and then we know adding the tk8 is just adding additional capacity but it's not even a 10 swing so let me let me say what latasha is saying right so latasha is saying that whether we keep one middle school or two middle schools the tk option is still on the table of course if you have two middle schools that are seven eight adding a tk8 is going to is going to drop the capacity of those two seven eight schools same same concept if it's only one middle school adding a tk8 is still an option it's still on the table we just know that it drops the capacity of the middle school and then looping back to meg's point if we get to that point and there is a tk8 and only one middle school since we know that this 1080 will drop do we want to at that point time again consider a different school and again those are conversations that that we will have let me say it one more time whether we have one middle school or two middle schools it does not stop us from still considering a tk8 we already know right now that if we add a second middle school here right whether that's slauson or center that this 87.38 is going to drop immensely but it doesn't stop us from still considering a tk8 after this decision whether it's two middle schools or one height or one middle school we can still consider the tk8 kind of going along with what amber with what amber said i agree with what she said i was kind of basing my vote because you threw in the middle schools when we were talking about the capacity of the elementary schools we do two tk through five we need two middle schools so i almost feel like we kind of voted on that already in the sense that you threw in the middle schools along with the tk-6 tk-5 so i think for clarity what we could do is do a quick poll if that's okay just to make sure we're all on the same page that we're agreeing are committing to one middle school or two middle school yeah i i agree with that um so but i'm just gonna say one more time and if you have a question please in the last couple of minutes here uh obviously we're not gonna get through everything tonight which is okay but what we are what we are hoping to do right now is say model three and the poll would say i want model three with one middle school i want model three with two middle schools knowing that that that does not affect should there be a tk8 or not that doesn't affect that we can either one of those could still work just knowing that right now one middle school houses all the seventh and eighth graders at 87 percent capacity is there a question about this poll i have a question yes ma'am um because if we're making all these decisions based on capacity you said the middle school capacity would drop but if we add a tk8 to the elementary mix then the capacity at those schools would also drop correct but again that that decision whether we're adding or not adding a tk8 doesn't is not affected by if we choose one or two middle schools no matter which one we choose the t the the tka can still be a factor but the tk8 eventually could also replace one of the other existing elementaries and so it's not going to automatically take from every other school it's going to depend on whatever the committee you know recommends is it's going to replace whichever one on on that list yeah yeah as an as an as an option as an option right no no none of this work we're gonna get to that in terms of schools and all that good stuff um right now it's just model three one middle school or two middle schools knowing that we still can talk we still have to talk about tk8 and we still have to talk about high schools but the but this this this decision doesn't stop us from the tka conversation and it doesn't stop us from the high school conversation any other anyone else have a question about that okay lika if you can put up the pole to pull it well look at you all right so once again all you're saying this is not schools this is not tk8 this is not high schools this is just we we want to see model 3 with one middle school we want to see model 3 with two middle schools so i have a couple more votes they're waiting on okay we have 20 votes so far still only 20.

so we have a couple more people who need to vote okay we'll just give it a couple more seconds i'll let you know lika when okay go ahead and show us the results okay so 76 percent of this group is saying uh that we continue with model three um so so far model three is a tk six one middle school but we still need to talk about the tk8 component and we still have to talk about the high school component as advertised model 3 is uh way more complicated than model four again i cannot thank you enough for your brain power uh your ideas your questions and your willingness to be here uh tonight uh to be part of this uh we are we are at it again next week um we will we will move uh forward with continuing to add details um knowing that we still have a couple of things to consider but now that we have this maybe we can start uh having clear scenarios for you like model 3 with the tk8 model 3 without the tk8 and then the and then the the uh the high school conversation um so once again again just in such deep appreciation um for everything that you're doing i do want to take just a quick moment to thank our team latasha especially who has been putting a lot of work into this and then of course jorge and dana their term will come when we get to support staff and and program as well so thank you thank

awesome i'd like to call this meeting to order could you do a roll call vote for me please kim karen anderson here tammy hi here john wall here greg myers here lisa schumacher here great we have a quorum on to item two public comments um do we have anything any anything from those folks here nothing at this point uh item number three correspondence did we have board correspondence did you see anything that wasn't anything i don't think no board correspondence awesome on to the consent agenda items four and five do you want to address that yes mr gruden really quickly we had some resignations we had kaylee hentas um and then three additional ones that got added to the agenda that included rebecca fields who's a cook brooks demesian for the head basketball boys basketball coach in stipend and jason mathema head boys soccer coach for the stipend for the employments we've got jeremy bleckley who's the recommendation for the assistant principal at the high school that'd be a two-year contract he comes from chester he's been there since 2007 started there as a teacher got moved up to a dean of students moved to assistant principal and the athletic director so really he's moving from an assistant principal here it was a nice process they did two rounds of interviews there was some tough decisions but uh that's who the committee decided on and so that's our recommendation um excited to have him on board kimberly luntz who is lintz i'm sorry is the reading going to be the reading specialist for parkview that's taking over the resignation for the reading specialist that left she is a fifth grade special education teacher so you'll see in the vacancies we've got a special education teacher posted that's replacing her we've got the eagle view custodian who's uh retiring still posted and then we've got the three resignations the cook and the two stipend head coaches positions being posted we'll do the paraprofessional as needed over the summer when we get a better look at the numbers and whatnot we also have our summer workers and we're asking for the same number that we normally get um student custodians painters groundskeepers and whatnot i don't think that there were any questions or anything on this and so the recommendation is to approve it as presented and is there any questions on the consent agenda from the board like a copy of the resume to us sure yeah not today but right yeah i can get that to you any other questions on the consent agenda seeing none and entertain a motion to accept the consent agenda as presented some move a motion by karen anderson second bye second by greg o'connor roll call vote for me please kim karen anderson yes tammy hi yes yes yes great motion carries on to item six communications reports and presentations administrative reports enrollment is in your packet next item on the agenda miss hughes hi thanks for having me first of all we are excited that grades have improved tremendously given the return to school full day and compared to the end of first semester we have reduced the number of failing grades by 50 we meaning students teachers and the hours i think that they're in the school building have contributed to success so we feel really good about the trend and we're still working hard to help remaining students who who need who need some assistance as the semester ends i'm excited that cms is has filled out paperwork to get two new courses next year the first is called cultures which it's funny that prof is here tonight because she used to teach that and also a new technology class that would be taught by mr schlichting that's for more discussion later we uh we at cms are planning extensively for spring testing we have map at the end of april iar in the middle of may and we're also including the isa the science test and our plans we want to thank pta who's offered chs parkview and cms's upcoming kona ice truck has been a really big hit for students and i want to thank genie rice and our cms student council who's also playing the donut day after iar testing is over kevin shibey the ema public safety director visited cms and other buildings recently to review safety protocol for we at cms we looked at fire and tornado and i really appreciated his time and input regarding our procedures we're also looking forward to some student recognition in may miss lang gang's going to lead the movement of multiple soaring eagle awards to end the year and we're also looking forward to the eighth grade end of year awards that are celebrations scheduled for may 27th and then all schools eagleview parkview cms and chs is doing it a little differently but we've all started communicating with families regarding the possibility of attending our summer learning program which is scheduled to begin on june 7th to end on june 24th and we've agreed on a monday through thursday approach from 9am to noon so we started we've called parents we're also sending a letter and then i want to thank april becker our transportation director who's already working a little bit on busing so we're hopeful that we'll have some students in the building to help build some skills that they've been lacking possibly due to remote learning in order to pandemic so we're excited about our summer plans great thank you you're welcome dr castellis gave now i'll just expand a little bit on the curriculum that she was she mentioned so you have seen two proposals cultures is uh bringing back cultures was there before i started um some of you may have had kids who've gone through that it's always been in sixth grade um it went away because we couldn't staff it and it wasn't something that we needed to hire additional staff to do but it resurfaced because we do have somebody that can fill that role in addition we have always struggled in the sixth grade with the class sizes in various hours because they don't take electives in the same manner as seventh and eighth graders do and so you will find that some periods throughout the day the class sizes in sixth grade are not ideal and in particular um the music class the choir class the class size can be 70 plus and we're looking to maybe minimize that so we're hopeful that adding that back into the schedule with somebody who's eager to take that on will be a will be a benefit in many different areas we won't need to hire additional staff it shouldn't cost anything in terms of you know materials per se however what will be different is that we are actually going to work on an actual curriculum document instead of just an outline that frequently i'm sure prophate could sometimes tell you that we're kind of left to flounder a little bit so put a little bit more structure in that and we have ms huels and the teacher amanda hellman willing to work on doing that to get that ready so that's one that we're asking for your approval on and the second one is the digital technology class and basically what that is is it won't require additional staffing either it is not it is using the same population and just putting them in a different class so what we have found over the years it's been a problem we've discussed and i'm very pleased that they came up with a solution because we were trying to figure it out for years so if you have a student who has an iep or they are an rti they have to give up one of their elective slots in order to generally take study hall support and so when they do that often times they are out of the wheel of electives and they miss technology and so then what happens is when they come to seventh grade maybe they're interested and that's the one they pick but they've missed fifth and sixth foundations and it's really difficult for them to catch up and so the teacher is trying to differentiate to make that happen but when the rest of the kids can type and they know how to do word documents to jump into coding and other things becomes quite the challenge and then what they found looking at the data is that many of those students this year not many a a good percentage elected to withdraw from the class because they felt overwhelmed and joined into a study hall kind of environment and hopefully what this would allow is them to get those skills still that are critical for their success and then if they want to jump in later they can do so so those are two recommendations that we have i think that would benefit the students there at cms so um angie touched on the summer school so we're excited about having that roll out and i think that's about it great thank you dr castelli on to item four as a superintendent's report mr grody um we did have a foia request that was the smart procure you know what they do that quarterly and so it was just that time again um but as far as my report goes this year is coming to an end thinking back to the beginning of the year it feels like it's you know almost like a dog here it's been seven years packed into this wine um most of our action items tonight are actually for next year getting ready for next year and really looking ahead at next year um we're going to be using the assert funds we've already wrote the granted the esser funds the extra emergency funds for the covet is what's paying for the summer school to catch kids up and everything like that and so um that's some good news but as we uh finish this year i want to remind everybody you know we've got prom where we've got a court and we've got other end of the year celebrations occurring to the best of our ability and i say to the best of our ability because um i really appreciate those that are stepping up and providing opportunities for our students outside of the school day because we can only do what we can do we have to follow the rules and the regs um we're held to those rules as a public body and like it or not we have to follow them the quarantine is the the big one um there's nothing that an administrator you get a pit in your stomach when you find out you've got a a positive kid and you've got to go to the seating charts and find that and make all of these phone calls because it's it's just it's so frustrating to have a healthy kid stay home but it's what we are forced to do um you're quarantined for 14 days you are quarantined for 14 days you can return to school per the idph after 10 days if you've had no symptoms you're still supposed to be quarantined for those 14 days which means after school events you can't return to until 14 days later and trust me we've had conversations with john wagner and it's just it's frustrating especially like for band you've got a child that can return to school after 10 days you can sit in a band room and he could take his mask off and play his instrument but he's not going to be able to attend the uh the concert two days later which is more separate in a larger space it's just why and and the answer is because those are the rules and we have to follow them um and we advocate for the kids but it's it's also we have rules that we have to follow and it's frustrating after spring break we had an uptick we had some kids that were positive and it caused us a lot of quarantines we're going to have prom or there's being problems being held we aren't having it but proms are being held other events are being held we've got the end of the year festivities going on and i just want to encourage all parents to be extremely diligent if there's any thoughts that someone in your household is sick please keep your child home because if your child comes to school and they are sick and there is a positive test there is a lot of families that get affected by that and so um just be diligent with those um self-certifications and make sure we're doing what's what's what's best for all the kids involved um we're gonna get through this year i know that remote learning will only be offered for those that have medical needs next year the state has pretty much laid that down regarding quarantine i'd like to tell you that it'll be over however i can't tell you that it'll be over um yeah all the administration really hopes so too just like the parents do um that's going to be the hard one to to get past and you know i have spoken with our legislatures about it and whatnot it's just it's um i don't know how to fix it so if anybody knows a solution i'd be willing to help them work on it over the summer because i do not want to have to quarantine kids it's just it's frustrating so um but that's the report this year is almost over and next year is about to start all right thank you i have a question do we have summer school for other classes or grades besides middle school oh yeah okay all grades it's more credit recovery at the high school level okay and then we've always done the extended school year for the uh special ed students which we will continue to have but this is really for the um the other students that there might have been a gap and they're going to be using the assessments to pinpoint exactly who those are beautiful i have a question also um what's our status on teachers being vaccinated do we know a percentage of teachers that are vaccinated have they all been offered they've all been offered okay and i believe at this point um i don't think there's lines like there used to be i don't know but i don't i don't i don't know who's been vaccinated who's not been vaccinated there's no scarlet v that i make them wear or anything it's just two months ago i had to send that very teacher home and said i'm sorry your your daughter's sick you have to go home and i got to this week say hooray you that teacher's vaccinated i don't have to send that teacher home anymore so that's my next question so thank you right it might seem like a very small deal but it was such a win that i didn't have to ask that teacher to leave campus thanks any other questions for mr grote seeing none let's move on to item seven items for action the first one is the approval of the consolidated district plan yeah and you had a copy of that uh document basically whenever you do your grants there's all these physical federal requirements and everything and they've taken all the requirements from all the different grants and put it into this one consolidated district plan um we killed several trees printing that out for you but the recommendation is to approve it as you can see it's it's very similar to what it was last year um questions concerns comments the recommendations any questions on the consolidated district plan from the board seeing none i'd entertain a motion to accept the consolidated district plan as presented so move a motion by karen anderson a second bye second by john long can you do a roll call vote for me please kim yes yes greg meyer yes yes yes great motion carries it's on to the item b approval summer tuck pointing project yeah and this project includes tuck pointing of the middle school eagle view park view it's going to power wash the middle school and put a sealant on there so the black substance that grows on that beautiful white brick does not grow back we are also going to be power washing it with the recommendation the eagle view masonry there's we had i believe four bidders the facility committee mr myers and mr o'connor reviewed the big specs reviewed the bids talked about it with the architects and uh the recommendation is that we give it to the lowest bidder which was the james g stat tuck pointing company they are the company that did the high school last summer and they did a great job we worked well with them we liked them um they were the lowest bidder and we're recommending that we do all the alternates questions concerns comments but i thank you for providing the tabulation to all of us that was great so thank you for the committee that did all of that yeah it looks like we had five betters which is it was it's um you know when we've gone out to bid for a lot of things it's been difficult to get bid so it's good to see that many we went early um i can't remember it was mr myers or mr o'connor that kind of said you know you go early and uh they haven't lined up their summer work yet you get more bids and i agreed with that and so we benefit from it what's amazing is the difference between the bids yeah exactly it's mind-boggling so any other questions about uh the tuck pointing project saying that i'd entertain a motion that we accept james g stat pointing with all alternates as being the lowest and best bid i like that motion motion by greg meyer second bye second by lisa schumacher roll cover for me please kim jong mon yes greg meyer yes stop middle camp yes greg o'connor lisa schumacher yes karen anderson yes tammy hines yes on to item c approval of non-re-employment of non-tenured teachers this is one of those um no administrator likes to say but we had four teachers molly bartels vicky bradley charlotte romano and taylor zimmer who were our remote instructors they were our remote teachers they did a fabulous job they're good teachers uh we don't have a position for them next year because we're not doing the remote instruction uh i will say publicly that that if we have a position they would definitely be strong contenders for a job i think that they were great educators but this is just an honorable dismissal because those positions are no longer so they were hired to fill those roles and they did admirably at it so any questions from the board on this item seeing none i'd entertain a motion to approve the honorable dismissals as presented i'll make the motion motion by tammy hines second bye second by lisa schumacher roll call vote for me please kim greg meyer yes scott middle camp yes greg o'connor hi lisa schumacher yes karen anderson yes tammy hines yes sean long great motion carries on to item d approval of non-tenured teaching staff for 2021 2022 this is one of those yearly things you've got a list of the first year teachers the second year teachers of the third year the second year third year fourth year fifth year teachers the the tenured teachers will be chelsea chelsea adair jessica m amanda bedard michelle it's michelle irkey um we congratulate them and welcome them with tenure to our district um and then there's just the update for who's still in that pipeline as they move toward that we asked the board to prove that any questions on our non-tenured teachers seeing none i'd entertain a motion to approve the non-tender teaching staff for 2021 and 2022 as presented so move motion by karen anderson second bye second by john long roll call vote for him police kim scott middleton yes greg o'connor aye lisa schumacher yes karen anderson yes tammy hines yes john long yes greg meyer yes on to item e for our annual ihsa membership fee this is another one of those yearly um duties and my experience for the last 13 years as a superintendent i've always recommended that we approve us being a member of ihsa and that ihsa has waived the membership fees this year due to covid and the lack of post season play ihsa is hurt financially this is the first year in the last 13 that they are asking for us to be members and pay our association dues at sixteen hundred dollars i can tell you that um you know if you think about it for at least 14 years you're paying one year out of that it allows us to compete and have our kids compete in a lot of those extracurriculars and i mean a lot of you know it's not just the athletics the band competitions all of the other clubs are also ihsa sponsored event that your membership gets you so um the recommendation is to approve it with the understanding that there will be a fee this year that's don't want to say new but it's something that they've always been able to wave in the past and we look forward to postseason games resuming any questions from the board on the ihsa annual membership seeing none had entertained a motion to accept the recommendation for the annual membership fee of sixteen hundred twenty-five dollars for the ihsa absolute motion by greg o'connor second bye second by karen anderson roll call vote for me please kim greg o'connor hi lisa schumacher yes karen anderson yes timmy hines yes john long yes greg meyer yes scott little pants yes motion carries on to item f uh the new course that we just talked about a few minutes ago cultures yeah we've talked about it extensively it's for the sixth grade the recommendation is that we approve it as presented questions concerns on it any questions from the board seeing i actually have one so when we get into culture i think it's a great idea but now we're also in the realm these days of politics which keeps encroaching into the school are we keeping politics out of this it's not about in the past it's been more along the lines so it's if you think about it kind of like a preliminary to our foreign language if you look at 6.60 which is the policy regarding curriculum it does contain various things related to cultures if you want to see what the state and what you guys approved in january of last year we're going to sit down and obviously write that but in the past it had it was not about that it's it's literally about the cultures of the world and how language is it you know used and it's yeah i think the overall purpose of the course will be to keep the interest for spanish and germany yes that's really the overall it's just you know yeah appreciate it it's not it's not designed to be related to what yeah that's what i want to hear it was probably maybe 10 years ago i would say i think it's important to learn as i know we've had it yeah i think it's important to teach different cultures in different communities but it is one of those items that could easily drop into a political thing we met with german teachers and spanish teachers we're excited about what that might do to promote the numbers especially in german but also spanish thank you any other questions about cultures seeing none i'd entertain a motion to approve the addition of the cultures course at cms as presented motioned by lisa schumacher second bye i'll second second by tammy hines roll call vote from the police kim please subscribe yes john mall yes greg meyer yes scott milken yes greg o'connor hi on to the next item on the agenda item g approval of a new course at columbia middle school digital technology again this was one of those courses that we were talking about we just talked about and the recommendation is to approve it as presented any questions about digital technology from the board it too will not have any politics seeing no questions i'd entertain a motion to uh approve the edition of the digital technology course at cms so motion by john long second by a second second by greg meyer roll 12 vote for me please karen anderson yes tammy hi yes john long greg meyer jeff scott middle camp yes greg o'connor hi and on lisa the next item we are we need to find some time to schedule a special meeting so uh both counties needed some time to certify the election uh they needed to tabulate the um yeah absentee ballots mail-in votes and uh so we need to schedule a meeting at some point after on or after the 20th after the 20th yes preferably the week of the 26th so tuesday night the 27th is the pta membership meeting member meeting so um preferably not on the 27th so how's the evening of the 28th look for everybody or the 29th i'm getting a hand signal uh the 29th i'll be heading forward the evening of the 28th wednesday the 28th is that good for everybody here good good um do we want to do this at customary seven o'clock or do we want to do six great it'll be short it'll be short so second bit seven doesn't matter seven good okay let's do it at seven so seven o'clock on uh wednesday april 28th will be that um that meeting and we have anything else i know we're working on a time for we're going to have the illinois association of school boards to come in and do um roles and responsibility training for the board members that will be in closed session will be kind of a strategic planning type of thing i also was on the phone today with barney mundorf and calvin davis through the roe is setting up a um uh a new member training for um it's going to be at redbud so it's going to be an in-person training that would qualify for some of your needs so i'm going to get that information from kel and i'll forward it on to everybody um but everybody's starting to get new boards is barney going to be one of the presenters he's presenting yeah that'd be good ias iasb has several new board sessions as well that might just be overlapping information but always good to engage in those and there's a whole this one course is being taught several times the meeting that they do it's very exciting it's very good it was very very good and it's a smaller group so a little bit more personable and kind of hands-on than the big ones so do we have anything for executive sessions no sure no so that was a placeholder show there's nothing for executive session today uh nothing for board president's variety on to item 11 adjournment um and entertain a motion to adjourn some who motioned by karen anderson second bye second by greg o'connor we do need to roll call vote since we're still meeting this way yes john mall yes greg meyer yep scott middle camp yes thank you everybody thanks for joining you
