so that's all i have for the superintendent's report there's a couple questions uh yeah i have uh several i think they're all positive uh firstly uh for the eighth grade uh trip are they gonna be uh like the bus the bus um organization are are you gonna maintain those like the hundred uh student cohorts that you had you know for for classrooms or probably not um they'll probably i i haven't discussed that specifically with mike so i don't want to speak out of school uh so to speak but i i don't know that that will be the case i can't confirm that okay and you know they are getting if provided they get tested beforehand um and we know that kids on teams are engaging with kids on other teams outside of school now um so i mean for me my personal take off the cuff is that our students have earned the opportunity through what they've gone through to make sure that they're with their friends to the greatest extent possible when i ran that trip when don malonis ran that trip before me it was who do you want to be with you know we put these clusters together groups of four and you know you can pick your group of four and then you might be you're going to be mixed with others on the bus but we really want the kids to spend time with the people they most want to spend time with on this trip and anything we can do to facilitate that is what we're going to try and do great um so i'll mix this one in this one's less positive i had read an article i don't know if faith you would share this with me or not but it was about um having your camera on during remote learning and i was wondering if we had no wasn't he okay um uh if we had any kind of mandate where where our students needed to leave their camera on during learning or if or if they had the option to turn it off it's really at the teacher's discretion however we prefer the camera on um i have a 15 year old who likes to watch uh the office rather than the math teacher and it's harder to do that when you're sitting there with the camera on um so you know whether it's in my home or in other homes we encourage the camera beyond but the teacher could you know at their discretion allow a student to turn it off and really hearing from parents talked a lot about this camera and we did a lot with teachers in the beginning of the year to talk about why kids might feel uncomfortable showing their home or showing their background and so we tried to work with people on giving kids options and talking to kids about why they might not feel comfortable having the camera on and how to use different backgrounds and things if they if they didn't feel comfortable or for the students we have who are homeless and you know don't want to show where where they are etc so we we've yes teacher discretion but we've done some training around working with students to see how they can make them feel comfortable i just wanted to add yeah so the response isn't you know generally the teacher barking into child get your camera on cletus but we'll reach out to the student about you know what's going on it's better to explain to them why we want the camera on and as you and i have played around with google meets before you can fuzz out backgrounds and do different stuff now and that's fine we just want to see you engaged in what's happening you know in a classroom you couldn't just like pull out your phone and watch tv you could do that at home unfortunately if the camera's off and we want to make sure our kids are engaged starts with great lesson design you know with good lesson design they want to be engaged right but they should be camera on to the greatest extent we can yeah it's good to hear it's just that this article i guess and i was about a school in connecticut where the kids were using the screen being turned off as a as a method of exclusion so that even if a kid another student wanted to speak no one would turn their cameras on and it would create this further feeling of isolation so i wasn't sure you know that's the thing where we made it mandatory or if we had that any kind of anything like that occurring here so i just wanted to bring that up as a i haven't heard that this is the first i've heard of that sort of practice that's yeah and so just uh uh as a to end on a positive note is there going to be a proms or an in-person graduation this year there will be both proms and the graduation what that looks like um we're still trying to nail down uh the we have a couple of different options in terms of a prom uh we're serving our students tomorrow to kind of ascertain what's the uh vaccination rate amongst our students uh one of the reasons we have the vaccination clinic on wednesday is if you are vaccinated with pfizer on wednesday the 28th the subsequent vaccination is the 20th of may it's a three-week window between shots two weeks after that is i think june 2nd our proms are june 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th and so you'd be fully vaccinated um would that give us option at a place like arya maybe you know we're working it through with maura and the gentleman tom st louis who works with districts on mitigating strategies so tom st louis always talks about uh there are a number of mitigating strategies that's why i have that whack-a-mole image that you know it's not good enough to just be vaccinated it's not good enough to just where uh you know if everybody's vaccinated that's one level of safety if everybody's mass that's a different cohorting is part of the equation distancing is part of the equation so i think what we need to do is determine how many students will be vaccinated look at the environment what sort of distancing can we provide masking what would eating look like if at all and then you know put the right package together to make it a great event for our kids but also safe and so we're going to work with health professionals to figure that out asap graduation there's no food it's a much different environment we are looking to hopefully hold a graduation outside you know in a fairly traditional way worst case scenario is it has to be done in two phases but you know after last year's weather tormented covid tormented experience drive through um i'll take two phases as opposed to that great thank you sure um what changes what changes do you anticipate if any with uh uh may 19th in the governor's lifting yeah i mean how will that affect schools sure the education component of the state the department of ed uh and i meet with them every tuesday morning at eight a.m as part of the superintendent's conference call and they're suggesting that you know we're just going to stay this stay the course through the remainder of the school year i don't think that we'll deviate dramatically what we do prom might be one area uh graduation might be another we're planning in person graduation but also promotion ceremonies across the district so we want to make it is typical as we can but again be safe and balance it with the the restrictions the the everything else in the schools like vin mentioned we're going to pretty much keep the same through the rest of the year you've probably seen the circus tents were getting back to eating outside once the weather improves a bit and you know that that's that's huge that's a that's the greatest area of concern that i have is dining and dining outside very nice alfresco environment at our schools that's what's better than that today was alfredo so there's a swanson frozen meal today jeff thank you so much for making the dc trip at least moving forward still at this point um i've said it before i'll say it again now i was wrong about sports last fall but your decisions related to the public health concerns have been really good um you've kept all the kids not all of them most of them in the school system and so thank you for making this happen i remember i graduated died in 1986 35 years ago and it was a big deal yeah the dc i mean it was it was a blast thank you um do you happen to know anything with regard to the vaccination clinics do you happen to know anything about dropping the age below 16 even i thought i'd seen a headline about that is there any not yet okay um and so i don't think that we'd be prepared certainly not for wednesday to go below age 16.

yeah we're in a pretty good place now on your previous you know commendation i i have to say that's a it's a group of people it's vin it's marlene it's you know our health uh dr o'connor maura nancy stanton they deserve a ton of credit steve in the sports world yeah thank you for the whole the whole team um making that happen i guess so the one other thing with regard to the vaccinations is that something in the back your mind over the summer even i mean if that's nature okay yeah i mean we're a community organization that we don't shut down in july and august and if it's in the best interest of kids we'll find a way to make it happen in july if that's what it takes you know okay we want to offer it and i understand that it's a personal choice it's you know certainly not everybody it's it's not a required vaccine but it would enhance public health and if there's a demand for it we'll offer it okay thank you [Applause] oh with regard to uh students returning to school i know go back to october november you were talking about you know on a monthly basis you'll have to sign up early and then just a few minutes ago you were talking about um all students being eligible to go back i think next monday right do you still have that lead time involved there or you just saying you do i i want to be clear for anybody who's watching that it takes an incredible amount of work for our team to switch people between remote and in person and the work required in the classroom of our teachers to teach two groups the group that's in front of you at the same time that the group that's online is incredibly taxing and they deserve a world of credit for making it work this year i know vin gets ballistic about some of you know school systems that haven't haven't gone out of their way the the teaching team hasn't gone away out of their way to make this happen for kids and i don't blame them our teachers have not they've been incredible with what they've done put fear aside but then you know got into it and taught live and synchronous and all year um what i think it can be frustrating at times when we get requests like sparky wants to go remote today because he's got a haircut at 11.

and that's you know i don't think it it's intentional but ultimately it's it's not really considerate of the work that has to happen to make that you know and top everything they're already juggling it's like scramble and now get him invited to the meet and all this and you know and get them shared documents for whatever that you were gonna in the classroom um so we asked people to make a commitment for a month at a time when they go remote or not and i appreciate parents you know thinking that out it's not a matter of just flipping a switch and it's no problem it's it's tough for our team so yes we still adhere to the month okay thank you um just a couple more things that i think should be quick uh you mentioned the um working with the uh the ymca i was just wondering where's camp q this summer do you know is it one of those schools i i know that what are we doing with that then is it chapman chapman yes we can't do it morton this year because the refrigerator the refrigerator back in norton the construction going on yeah we've got projects all over all over the place this this summer's going to be busy we'll actually give you an update at the planning committee meeting okay they are going forward camp q ups i'll just double check my notes um the question i think adam usually has i usually leave it for you uh bullying do you have a quarterly report or is there something yeah we do that at the end of each quarter i think the next one oh this isn't the end of the quarter march 31st i didn't i don't remember what the quarter we may have had it's okay yeah i'll get you one no big deal yeah yeah no that's fine okay all right i'll send it to you i'll get time to pull that for me um i wasn't sure if i'd heard you right marlene you had mentioned homeless students so we do have homeless students in the cheshire public schools okay thank you i i knew that it'd come up in policy but i thought it was more theoretical so that's not a large percentage but yeah i'm assuming it's relatively few people okay thank you um truancy you ha i didn't hear you mention truancy is it not to get into a deep discussion but is it an issue with the you know you mentioned sparky going for a haircut at 11 but is it is it a big concern for you more so than in other years how is it going this year you know maybe less so actually than other years i think it it could be difficult um i think we're seeing it more now in the spring um with high schoolers occasionally checking out senioritis maybe that's i mean that's that's nothing new um but when you're remote and it's you know in the next week if it's 84 degrees or something it might be harder to jump on and be tempted to jump on i mean aap will keep certain kids hooked through the end but um our kids are weary you know it's been a long long haul um i'm not saying it's okay i'm just saying it's it's hard to maintain that stamina of a year in your bedroom yeah online so we're hopeful to continue to hook them in through the rest of the year that's why we're pushing really hard to get them in the building because there's so many fun events that occur in schools at this time of year that we're trying to do safely and engaging and so it helps keep them better connected to class and another reason we want to get them through the door thank you and just one last comment you did come it had come up before about addressing white noise at chapman and putting technology in there so just being mindful of the potential for you know changing the changing the building at chapman even up there not putting a lot of money into it right now well any again you know strategically anything that we're purchasing we want to take with us it's all portable okay so you know anything that we're installing is not a fixed structure it's we want to be able to take it with us if we go someplace else okay thank you i can just update you so just confirming camp q quinnipiac is at chapman this year and they're also doing the race for chase youth triathlon camp also with chapman okay thanks man okay chef had a quick question i don't know if you covered this during the finance committee meeting uh on enrollment but you gave me an interesting number today of the change in enrollment since january yeah the it's the we've gone up 22 students since january um right so sorry to cover it 41 20 or 41 14.

yep yes [ __ ] [Music] uh [Music] door's broken good evening westfield this is dan kanapic broadcasting live high above billy bullins football field to bring to you live action of the westfield high school football bombers versus the east longmeadow spartans joining me in the booth today as always is producer pete coles good evening pete and also i brought a little color commentary along with me tonight ed dibartolo is going to provide us some football ball right site so ed welcome to the broadcast thanks dan i appreciate it absolutely ed uh played a uh a midwest type of football back in the day so uh this is east coast slamming and bam in here so enjoy i expect to see a little bit of a spread offense here and see if they get the ball downfield yeah so uh the east long meadow spartans come in one and four and the westfield high school bombers come in one and three so this is senior night in westfield and this is a chance to uh on a coveted shortened season to uh go out on a high note so it's a beautiful night about 60 degrees here at bullens the sun is out much different than last week where westfield had a very difficult time handling the agawam brownies and i don't expect the same kind of ball handling problems uh tonight as they had last week but a whole different night it's uh last game of the season it's exciting ed well no question senior night is a special night for all these players that are playing their final game uh and as well as the the underclassmen some of these juniors sophomores and freshmen have an opportunity now to start establishing themselves for next season so important for all the players today particularly in that it's their final game of the year that's right so in uh there's a good crowd tonight of course the parents were here for uh senior night the captains are out uh with the officials uh doing the coin flip and of course the bomber marching band is here to provide some entertainment tonight and i think it's good that uh the community has an opportunity to come out and enjoy some football i'd also like to welcome the east long meadow uh community uh to the broadcast and uh we're glad to be able to uh simulcast the nissan metal as well and bring the same game to them and um we have some wonderful camera angles for tonight and uh we've been doing a little bit of post work on that uh since last broadcast and we should have a fine match up tonight both teams like i said are hungry for wins uh one uh instance in common there was aguam they both took it on the chin from aguam and but both teams started out the season with high hopes and and got on the scoreboard with wins on the first game of the season back on march 19th uh east long meadow hit up amherst 21-6 in westfield on march 19th took out you could be comp 35-0 but for both teams it was all downhill after that well one of the interesting things about this game dan is both of these teams have struggled mightily on defense east longmeadow has given up uh 35 points a game and uh westfield's given up 20.

all right six pm um it looks like we're all here nancy steve delray dr lee um and myself flag salute so if we could have mrs anderson would you mind leading us at the pledge sure [Music] stan salute pledge i pledge allegiance to the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty united states of america and under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all just noting to the public um that you do not need to say or participate in the pledge of allegiance to be a member of this board all are welcome here did we lose kelly i guess we did let's hang on one one quick pause then i know she was having computer issues there she is sorry about that guys it dropped me on the other computer so i'm back okay all right and i don't know why but it's not letting me use the camera [Music] i don't know it won't oh there we go it worked okay apologies everybody for that little pickup and okay so adoption of the agenda do we have a motion to adopt so moved thank you in a second [Music] thank you mrs pope can you close my door sweetie you have another present i'm on a board meeting [Music] [Laughter] um sorry guys my husband's mad because apparently the puppy just left me a present in the living room so we can all appreciate that humor um okay uh sorry derailed uh comments uh we do we need to vote to adopt the agent other or just a first and the second i think we've always adopted yes yeah so mrs anderson aye mrs pope aye dr lee aye and mr roberto hi and the two votes aye thank you okay so um we have one item tonight business item a adjusting center high school hybrid plan mo two model the board will consider merging the blue and gold tracks to one group at center high school this would allow students to attend center high school five days a week do we have a motion to approve or a motion to bring it to the floor for discussion uh a motion to bring it to the floor thank you dr lee mrs pope in that first quarter okay um and so we're open for discussion so um what i would say is i wanted to first acknowledge mr ferguson for being with us tonight and mr jordan for being with us tonight um i know when we first established our our plan for the hybrid hybrid model plan two for uh center high school uh extensive planning and preparation for the model um and we actually likely over planned because we provided more space while adhering to all the safety uh accommodations and considerations so tonight we're coming to you with the idea that we could collapse the blue and gold tracks to align and allow for students to attend five days a week without exceeding those um safety considerations that were were put in place um so with that i would go ahead and and have mr ferguson kind of share his his rationale and thinking and then if if it meets with the board we could uh have discussion i see if there's any public comment and then um go from there sounds good we lost chavia somehow dr lee's here i think she just has her screen off i think yeah something's going on with that not quite sure okay we see her we see her background not just not you yet and before yeah so strange so strange with these technology issues i got a lot of reports about folks not being able to hear me or understand me for the last couple of board meetings so tech issues happen all right sorry that's the good news all that matters thanks thank you mr lair um so one of the things i did want to also clarify is we we do see the potential and the possibility that we would be able to have all students who are on blue and gold track able to attend all five days but what it would still also remain as a caveat is if a student wanted to be able to attend on only like the track the original track that they would have been scheduled students could still be able to come in on only a few days of the week so as to minimize the number of students on campus as well if their families so choose looking at the numbers um mr larroy if i share at this time yes yeah please i'm sorry i don't do i have oh i can do it i was just wondering if this was a good time so one of the things we had done is in the process of looking at all of our information we did actual student body counts because it's easy to look at and am i sharing the screen that shows the combined tracks yes you are okay um one of the things we can do is we could have looked at the students and what they were signed into and which tracks they were designated to in our system and then we can also look at which which days are students showing up it took us two weeks to be able to conduct this because what we wanted to look at is when one track was attending a days we had to wait a week until the other track attended on a days and we would then be able to look at what would those numbers look like combined in this i want to clarify for example row 3 is not one single teacher i tried to make this a little easier to see because if i scroll down the numbers and class sizes are all going to get smaller where we want to look at the the numbers is just where we may be on the verge of class sizes that might be over the six feet capacity and we'll we can talk about that if you look at this the number of class sizes that are getting near the capacity of the room and some of them are a little different but the yellow is going to be class sizes that are near the capacity for what that class is so whether it's an elective that the room would be able to have more students or if it's a science classroom for example these 15s that's just nearing the class limit of 16 we would want in a science room the other class sizes that are larger are going to usually be a pe classroom it's they're going to be able to accommodate the number of students we only have really three classes that could potentially have students not within the six feet out of all and i want to say we have approximately 372 classes i think it is when we look at all the teachers and sections there are only three classes that we look at numbers could go beyond what the capacity of the room as we can best estimate or measure out the other challenge we have is with some of those numbers until we analyze the data a little bit more and look at the student numbers they may be students already attending five days a week so some of those numbers may be students who are counted more than once but what we would look at is when we have those three classes trying to find accommodating rooms that would the teacher would be able to move to as opposed to disrupting the students schedules or switching their classes we're only looking at potentially two or three of these classes either needing to accommodate to another room to maintain the six feet but every other class is within the limits for being able to maintain six feet or if we're outdoors with a pe class even the alternative facilities they could go to still accommodate all of those classes if i were to scroll down you can see the number of classes that are well below anything that is at risk of combining and being at capacity the bottom numbers here sizes for each period so you can see that the average class sizes are between four which also that's going to be when you have early dismissal so a lot of students are gone at the end of the day to the average being about 10.

however they haven't scored as many westfield's scoring slightly more than a field goal a game and uh longmeadow scoring about two touchdowns a game so whoever starts the the ball running uh starts putting the ball in the end zone first it's gonna clearly dominate this game because it will be a defensive struggle so ed we're getting ready to for kickoff it looks like the bombers will be kicking off they will be kicking towards king street or the baseball side and uh east long meadow will be heading towards uh franklin street or the municipal playground side right now we will stand for the pledge of allegiance [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] well that's it the national anthem has been played by the band nice job as always by pat kennedy and it's time for some football as you can hear the pa announcer so westfield senior night uh we have seniors in uh on the team uh christopher barber william brewster hunter kane joseph delgado aiden fitzgerald connor fitzgerald jaden gizabiladu and jeremiah masso and anthony mcivory round out uh well with george serrano round out the senior for westfield high school and uh as you said ed it's a special night for seniors for sure last time they'll get on the field here and some of them are going to go on maybe and play a little bit longer in college and um but most of them will probably just this will be it right yeah absolutely these these are memories that will be established and i can tell you playing more than 30 years ago i still recall my last football game it's a special time it's a special moment and excited for all these young players today okay we're getting ready for kickoff westfield kicking off to east long meadow here's a kickoff right down the field on the left sideline and it is still in play and east long metal picks up the ball looks like about their 35 yard line maybe that was played pretty wisely if he had tried to let it go out and and uh didn't get it uh westfield could have easily picked up the ball at that point yeah the ball didn't roll didn't it just kind of bounced and went up straight up in the air so looking at the field it looks a little shaggy out there so could be a little slow footing for some of these players yeah the the lines are very difficult to see tonight and uh the grass has been grown in yeah so here we go east long meadow with the ball there's a snap little high snap quarterback keeper and he's caught in the backfield for a loss nice job by the westfield defense we'll try to pick up numbers where we can sun is in our eyes so it's a little bit difficult yeah that was a designed quarterback draw longmeadow looking to establish the run early on uh look for these white outs right now to be part of a play action in some sort here so east long meadow back in one back in the backfield looks like three waiting for the snap second down and eleven quarterback back to throw out to the flats and uh flag is down and reception made by looks like number three or number five by east long meadow can you pick up a number five let's see trying to figure out who that might be oh that there's number five that's uh nico yeah you got a replay on that pete no it's okay just checking make sure the replay cameras are working it's a windy night here at bullins field so be a challenge not sure what the flag is yet but did you pick up what the penalty is you know it looked like there might have been uh some pass interference let's see no it's against the uh okay well it could have been a push-off east long meadow boy it's a big one they're really marching that off that'll send them back to about the 15-yard line i think and it's very hard to see the uh to see the yard markers here so east lawn meadow will be second and 21 looks like probably a false start maybe oh i think they're gonna get westfield yeah jumping offside maybe all right so it's a little bit of a awkward start here for football action here on friday night in westfield so now this one looks like it'll be going against the bombers so that's probably an offside that's an encroachment yeah so that's a second and 15 or 16 now for east line meadow you got one back in the backfield looks like three receivers out four receivers out long snap count there's a high snap back quarterback drops back in the flat same play as last time in the flats and he makes a reception can you pick up a number is that 21 21 yeah so 21 for east long meadow looks like a five or six yard gain giovanni uh ferentino okay third and 13.

so in addition to being able to maintain our six feet in the classroom some of the things that we're looking at is as i mentioned students would be able to still maintain choice if they wanted to be able to just attend on a days for two weeks and then b days for two weeks and remotely log in [Music] but the idea here is also when we are able to get students on campus for increased instruction that's what we're hearing from a lot of students they're struggling when they've rotated from being at home for b days or at home for a days and then it switches their engagement their ability their productivity i have a lot of students coming and just begging to be back i'm getting requests from counselors that students want to be here five days a week not only is it going to improve their instruction we also look at the other activities resources athletics that we have students who maybe take the bus to school if they play in a sport on a day that they're not intended to attend school they're trying to arrange transportation after school to get here which may be a challenge after school i understand you know getting home from practice there's usually a little more ease for parents to be able to pick students up later after work hours but as far as being able to get to teachers for tutoring access to counselors and other counseling services on campus the more we can have students here they're just going to have more access and ability to participate in those mr ferguson might you clarify so like we have those three rooms there are three periods that have potentially over the um the the capacity what would like let's take one of those what would your option be for uh period six on line three that 25 what what would you do to like a concrete example so if we were to move forward we would first look and make sure that i actually have 25 students they're they're not duplicated numbers but then we have a classroom on the campus next door that has been set up as a classroom of the future it's supposed to be a lot more interactive and that would be an avenue that a teacher would be able to teach from and not try to go to say the cafeteria we would have another room that does have the class size to fit the number of students and the resources for the teacher to still be able to deliver instructions so we would look to the other resources on campus in other rooms for them to be able to still deliver instruction and not change the student's schedules to then meet the classroom okay and i don't know gerald if you had mr ferguson if you had anything else or if you want to see if the board has any questions kelly i'm not sure uh gerald if any mr jordan was there anything you kind of wanted to add as we talked about this or i think mr ferguson did a great job i i think it's just a reminder that this is for kids who want to no one else has to change if they don't want to it's just if you want to come five days here's an option for you to come five days you want to stick on your two or three day a week come every other day fantastic you can do that too you want to stick on your distance learning you've got that option too but i see it as a win-win-win and and part of that with the choice i will say is i've had a number of students and what we've looked at with the accommodations in classes whether student is needing of services or in an at-risk population that would need to get to school five days a week we've been able to accommodate i've had probably 30 requests above and beyond those of students who want to be here five days a week so it is getting around and teachers i've talked to students they're they're asking what do we have to do to be able to get here five days a week and there are a number that want to and we understand that there's still going to be some who can elect to stay full distance learning or on the tracks of every other day um one thing i'd like to mention though is um we've received some emails from teachers that want to combine the tracks and we've received emails from teachers that don't and while this is an option for students it is not optional for teachers so um that is a consideration that i have on this yeah i i was going to bring that to um how many of the teachers were actually spoken to or had input into this this has been a topic topic of discussion and i always have an open door i've had a number of staff come in and i haven't had any that i can think of that have expressed me with a concern except for one who just wanted to make sure when they had a larger class size accommodations could be made it wasn't a desire not to do it the only concern that i've had expressed to me and that's i'm not saying that it doesn't mean there aren't any the only concern i had was somebody who's and i believe would be something here in like the the 25 i think was one of them that was concerned about being able to have them in a class size that wouldn't fit 25 but that's where we would find an accommodation or another room they would be in that could hold 25 students and again that is if everybody on the blue and gold track elected to come back okay i do have a comment that i i'd like to share just um about this business item i don't know if it's time for board members to be able to do that or not yes absolutely and we're open discussion at this point okay thank you i just wanted to make sure i don't want to you know not follow the protocol um so for today as i as i thought about this um you know plan and the and the plan to model the tracks and things um and you know our quick turnaround time we just met on wednesday we're here on friday um yeah not that i don't love seeing everybody here on the zoom grid uh but but uh it's really intense and if you can't recall during our you know discussions around reopening for in-person instruction i did request and call on our board and the superintendent multiple times to launch a new survey a new survey of students and families to inform the schedule development for our return to in-person instruction and my suggestions were rejected at every turn and the superintendent and my colleagues here on the board felt that the surveys we had conducted months ago in 2020 were sufficient and that folks could just call in if they wanted to do a new learning modality and i offered multiple suggestions for why that was flawed i shared examples of reopening surveys i had seen and reviewed in other local districts large and small um i shared the re that i had reviewed reopening plans for multiple districts and saw that every school district i looked at launched a survey to inform their schedule and so i you know i feel really that we rushed to reopen with schedules that were informed by outdated uh student preference data and i really think that's unfortunate i think that right now we're working harder and needing to double back and backtrack instead of working smarter and informed by the data and so because 50 of the students at center high school um have opted to remain in in distance learning now we have a special meeting here a little over two weeks after reopening and communicating the new schedule to teachers students and families and now we need to combine the blue and gold chats because as we heard at our last meeting and from community feedback that i've also received directly um you know it's not the the thing that you want to you know hear when you're walking through walmart but it just happens right as board members so but you know i it seems that some of our classrooms at center high just from what i'm hearing and you never really know right have one student in them some have like five students in them some have you know a few more and so it feels lonely in there for the students and i've actually heard from students as well um and they want to be there for five days and they and you know they want to at least have a few people to look around with you know six feet apart so i i really think that you know these kinds of things could have been revealed in a reopening survey if it was administered and the suggestions from some of our board members were kind of taken to heart i think it's this really is a miserable way to return our high schoolers to in-person learning after they've been through shelter in place for almost a year instead of having stability and measured action we're introducing confusion in disorganization in my opinion and to me that feels like a really bad position as a board member to be in and this is something that we could have avoided i feel with data informed planning so um i just think that you know if we're gonna make these changes to the schedules um and we're gonna now need to make new changes and and new communications i really think it's messy we need to work cleaner we need to work in a data informed manner i really think the students deserve no less than that and i truly want to thank mr ferguson um i appreciate his presentation of the analysis of the data that he's using to support and drive this suggestion to the mind the tracks um his plan that he mentioned uh to further explore the data he presented to us with the comparison of those actual attendance rates i think is very wise and critical i encourage him to go on a forward with that because what we know right now this whole pandemic situation it keeps shifting really rapidly i mean even from week to week it's just hard to know what's happening and how it's going to go down so um i think it's really unfortunate that mr ferguson needs to do this at this time on top of everything while also doing the day-to-day of being a principal um and that you know that's continuing in these uncertain times as well so i think conducting a survey and an analysis of the numbers before we reopened and designing a schedule informed by current data was the responsibility of this board and i feel we we failed at that responsibility and i just want to thank the administrators and the teachers and the students and the families for your grace for your loving acceptance of us uh it's been tough for everybody and i think that you know i'm just really thankful for the willingness of all the staff and the teachers and the students and the families to adapt and be responsive and i just want to thank mr ferguson and his staff for modeling for us data informed uh decision making being adaptive and responsive listening to what folks say and literally pivoting i'd just like to say that i feel that that misrepresents at least my viewpoint i wasn't saying that doing a survey was unnecessary or that um oh you know we've already done a survey that's good enough it was at the point that we were at with the amount of time that it would take to do a survey um i think the public had run out of patience and i don't think that that the delay would have been in the students best interest and so it's not that i didn't see any value in it i just thought that the timing of it was wrong i agree steve i was going to ask miss kelly if i could oh you're muted commenting she was muted can i say something real quick mr ferguson oh i was just trying to comment please don't let me in um so you know i understand what dr lee is saying we did hear from teachers um for both sides to open and reopen um but i've never seen a response from our students like we have in regards to this topic and it's it's we're in a little pickle here because it's a good argument on all sides but when a student comes to us or plural students and there are multiple that say i want to go back to school that that pulls at my my heart because they want to be educated they want to continue to learn and a lot of the students did express that distance learning wasn't ideal for them and since they have this option you know i i think we really should listen to the students that want to come back so i was just going to say now that i have volume you can hear me i was just going to say my understanding when prior to opening wasn't that we did not do a survey but that we didn't do a formal survey where we required everyone to respond but that each school sent out notices to their families asking them to either respond or update their information on whether or not they wanted to return so we did have data and we used that data um and and and i understand maybe we were a little overly cautious in our approach by you know having the split schedule and then now having to change however um i think it was probably the safer route to make sure that we had enough space and we knew exactly how many students were coming back and i was you know i i also spoke out wednesday night about you know this is crazy to be changing it two weeks in with five weeks left but the way that this this is structured this is not inconveniencing anyone who doesn't want to return to full-time they are continuing with their existing schedule so there's not going to be a change in that regard it's just going to make it easier for students to come in in person if they so choose and um my understanding and i correct me if i'm wrong but my understanding is they can change their mind on a daily basis as long as they're attending either by in person or by zoom their attendance is counted and they're and they're they're good to go is that correct so if if i may just kind of clarify that one of the things that would be a caveat to that is if a student has elected to be full-time distance learning then the expectation would be is that they are distance learning the whole time that way our numbers can be able to make sure that those who are attending it's not to capacity and those who are attending yes they have the ability and one of the things we're looking at this is being advantageous out of all of it is students who do need to stay home for any reason they're not going to be learning the or losing the learning that is happening that day right and so yes any student who is on hybrids any whether they're supposed to attend that day or not are able to go on remotely as any day that they choose yeah i i just also wanted to say i'm really glad that we're able to do this and maintain the six foot distance we've already had several cases in the first two weeks and uh not had to quarantine very many students and not had any transfers in school transfer transmissions so i think that that's something we definitely want to maintain and i want to be sure that that is still going to be the case that we'll be able to maintain that six foot distance and of course that all the other protocols are in place the hand sanitizers the distance from the teacher plexiglas if they want it masks et cetera et cetera et cetera still remains a fluid situation from week to week we still don't know what's going to happen two weeks down the road and we have to be able to turn back at a moment's notice heaven forbid and go back into quarantine if we have to so you can't set things in stone you have to be ready to do both um kelly you just brought up something that kind of touches on another one of my concerns with this idea we've already had a few cases of community transmission that have resulted in some students being quarantined i am concerned that if we increase the number of students in each classroom we're going to increase the chance of needing to quarantine students and increase the chance of someone actually catching it at school so that that is one of my concerns with the idea i agreed all right i know mr uh i'm sorry ms kelly no go ahead um i mean i can't give off too many of the details but i can say as it has been the public has been notified we did have cases that were from the community but because of the protocol in place that we are able to maintain the six feet of distance even in class sizes that might be below 16 to 18 which is what the classes are set at and they're set at that with six feet of distance when we have that in class that is why we have not had any further spread or any quarantine based on our classrooms or the policies in there like the masks the six feet of distance we're still able to maintain that and it reaffirms i know mr ferguson and i spoke this morning i know there's another local district that did not abide by the six foot rule and they have a significant number of students that are being quarantined uh because that they could not they were not achieving the six foot rule in there because that that is how that that is occurring and it's it's in some cases it's tens to maybe hundreds of kids had to be disrupted so to us that the game changer that we've spoken about is we really need to adhere that six foot all the other protocols with that six foot and keeping that distance is critical and i think having a few cases arrive at school has just reaffirmed that it's it's still out there this is nothing to joke about you know we're where we have to continue to take it as serious as possible for the safety of everyone um i do want to acknowledge that um i tend to be somewhat pessimistic so i was anticipating that we'd see a lot more infections than we have and i have to to say that the fact that we've avoided up to this point any uh transmission in school and that we have the rapid testing available and everything i think these are all good signs so although i have concerns about it i have to say so far you guys have exceeded my expectations and i have a question for mr ferguson as well um because to me it's all risky business even being open right now so i'm just thankful like some of our other board members have stated that it you know it just it's been okay i'm really thankful for that my question for mr ferguson is um what are the caps at the end of the day you know once this goes live and so forth what will be the caps in each classroom once those you know are combined what's the like highest actual number of kids that we could have sorry student high school students we could have there i know kids is a no-no with high school students um so first of all i also wanted to go back miss lee you and dr lee you made some comments earlier i just want to say i appreciate the uh your sentiments about the hard work and i will say that the staff here the reason why we are in this position and we have these protocol in place and students are following them is the teachers setting the role model for the students and also helping to reiterate the expectations in the class sizes it also does depend on the building and the nature of the class so for example our science classrooms which we do have outlined in the handbook they have counters around the outside that as far as desks we aim for 16 and that maintains six feet between the desks we do still have the capacity in those rooms because there's lab stations a student could sit at a lab station but that's not the same as a desk and we would want to maintain every student in the same circumstances so our science classrooms are able to accommodate 16.

so that's a big third down deep in their own territory yet so they probably uh not going to do anything too risky here east longo meadow going uh no huddle shotgun every single play so far uh looks like they're going to take it to the air they've seen some weaknesses in the previous games of westfield it's coming up same play exactly the same but quarterback throws it a little short in the flat there to number five and uh that falls incomplete and that'll uh bring up fourth down well a nice stand by westfield uh that's mungo very well yep so 947 in the first quarter left east line meadow back to punt deep in their own territory westfield uh kick return punt return around about this 45 here's a punt nice punt end over end and it gets by the west field back and it goes deep into westfield territory picked up and he's going to run it back and he's tackled hard oh he's still on his feet good play still on his feet and a lot of running there but not a lot of yardage so maybe he picked up three or four yards there what number is that you get 20 number 84.

the majority of our classrooms are all able to accommodate 18 there might be an exception or two when the shape of this the class is like longer and narrower and for the teacher's desk to maintain distance with the teachers desks as well the classrooms outside of science don't get below 16 and we do have some electives that the size of the room accommodates higher numbers and then pe that's another one where we would be outdoors and those numbers could be a little bit higher the quick answer is is our the majority of our classes are capped at about 18.

nice tackle by number 84 christian harding's long meadow christian harding is that 22 26 i think for westfield yeah that would be nick bates it looked like who did the return there for a nice gainer there he was able to elude a tackle he was able to get back about 10 yards of that punt but a really solid tackle by uh east longmeadows christian harding something's going on is there another flag down on the play i think are they going to bring it back what are they doing here oh looks like a flag was down and uh eastland meadow offense coming back on the field yeah yeah yeah something uh i didn't see what it was but 39 yard line the ball on the east long middle side once again be patient with us the sun is directly in our la side of uh eyesight so we saw middle has the ball back trying to get with the call is on that play from the shotgun two wide right again quarterback drops back there's a pass over the far sideline and nearly caught but broken up anybody know what the uh what was that penalty um okay so that was a roughing the kicker call on westfield and that's what sent it back so that play incomplete uh and that'll bring up a second down and 10 from roughly the east line metal 39 not sure if the the game clock is running again it looks like it's stalled that was an incomplete pass there's a quarterback keeper and uh he's hitting the backfield nicely tackled by westfield got a number on that westfield tackle 49 49.

otherwise it's 16 in some buildings and then accommodations in others that's one of those things that we wish we could move forward with from the pandemic but you know in a regular operating that's just hard to maintain but what an amazing opportunity there yeah mr ferguson what would lunch look like without having to change i'm sure we still have the two lunches and when we built the original model the original model with looking at the numbers of students on campus and access to lunch one track alone was estimated to be about 450 students if we had the two tracks at their full capacity when we merge and if every student actually you know were to be here we're looking at no more than 500 on campus but half of them are at lunch at a time so there's only roughly 250 students that would be at either lunch but then we have multiple places for the students to be all the open space we would have either the theater the library for inclement weather as well as the cafeteria and any other covered seating so it would be compared to a normal school year it would be about little under a third of the students who would otherwise be at lunch actually at lunch during this right mr ferguson isn't it true that the area at which lunch was pretty confined when you'd have half of them there with 1300 kids you'd have 600 and 700 kids out at one time but it was a more condensed area now we have the new quad area you have the big quad area plus you're allowing kids to be down further so i miss pope you might have been there with me when there was a lunch with 120 kids and we were we were like looking around trying to count the kids because it's pretty sparse because i'm used to seeing all of them jammed into that main quad area on a regular year um and so it that was another consideration that we were talking through as well is what would the spacing be when those lunch times do change um correct and so basically the numbers and i apologize oops i think i started talking when you started killing me sorry you're fine okay i was just saying i so the numbers in the playbook uh mr ferguson you would say we can rely on those uh even with the merging um that's those are reliable numbers that part won't be shifting in the near future before the next five weeks you think and i would just want to ask to clarify you mean the numbers because the numbers that were i believe in the playbook were from the original survey and then the follow-up we got from families i don't know oh okay for the science class um okay no those correct those numbers i didn't know if you're talking about the student population numbers in the class i i was just getting clarification those numbers we still maintain because that was established with six foot distancing and we don't look to go below six feet because if we did have to do a contact tracing as uh mr lair was mentioning if we're under six feet even with masks we would have to quarantine out a caution and we might look to maintain that six feet even though there's you know some groups say you could go three feet we'd rather take the stricter guidance to maintain safety so it is still those same numbers i'm just a little curious how the lunch hours are going at this point are you having difficulties keeping students apart um or are they following the rules are they staying six feet apart or no mr can i answer that one yeah uh so kelly as mr lehrer said he and i did walk through center high school during first lunch it was and there was several students sitting by themselves or most of them i think i saw maybe a group of two that had two people together and i think they were they may have been i think they were siblings um and then we had a group of three that i saw that were not six feet apart but let's say three to four feet apart but they were sitting together but other than that everybody was was sitting by themselves that's nice and and even with all of the multiple areas that you're allowing them to sit you're able to cover it with plenty of adult supervision yes we have uh three full-time campus monitors there's two assistant principals as well as myself and i'm just going to go and you know say we have a student population that is like beyond expectations of being accommodating and respectful and we have very few concerns with them abiding by the as mrs bo kind of mentioned there's some students that do sit a little close that's that's going to happen but at lunch time our campus monitors have great relationships with the students and the students are very well behaved do we have any more comments from the board or questions from the board um i have a question that i mean this is an issue whether we combine the tracks or not but um i notice even with the combined numbers some classes show like one student and i know that we received some comments from students saying that they're the only student in a class what are we doing to make sure that you know p staff and students aren't going to be alone one-on-one so i'm going to say that's a very good question that is something that we are trying to figure out too because it is a challenge and like i'm looking at this the i scrolled down fourth period i'm just looking at there's two classes that even combined still have only one student and that's also the challenge of at the end of the day if a student doesn't have a class they elect to have early dismissal um we have other students who they commute with somebody so we have tried to place tas in those classes and with everybody coming back we would have like more more bodies on campus to have that ability to have a ta in a class or to look at increasing the some students have a hole in their schedule and we can use that to our advantage where a student can be a ta in a room and increase the numbers so that's that's a challenge that we're coming up with very creative solutions for could we do something like if you have a class with only one student that teacher and student go into a different classroom or something without being too disruptive so i know i think mr laird is looking to unmute one of the concerns we would have and i think he may agree is when we when we cross over we want to maintain those concerns of contact tracing and when we have a class i understand that our cohorts are still who's here on campus but as many other precautions that we can put in place and when that teacher and that student go to another room they bring all their contacts with them so to say and yeah the other piece i was going to add mr ferguson is also with though if there's one there there's usually 25 others that are distance so you're emerging um trying to teach virtually with the one student in someone else's room it does because i actually thought the same thing i'm like great we'll just put them but i forgot you have the other other side the other thing is i was thinking is you know there's always standard precautions you work to but we do have to be creative you know maybe you know partner teachers who are around could you know sit in the inner rooms you know just it's it's for the protection of everyone um you know being an elementary teacher myself you know my door was always open whether i had one or two kids because i i don't want the perception and i didn't want to ever be accused of any sort of perception so i want to protect everyone in this situation and um real quick also mr bruno to let you know i looked at some of those classes they also happen to be classes that either might be one that provides services such as an el class or for support services that do have another staff member in the room now there's still going to be some gen ed classes that may not have another staff member in the room but some of them i'm looking at for those the classes of one there is another staff member in there okay and this is why i asked because you guys know things about it that i might not anticipate so thank you and as usual there are 12 steps ahead of us mr ferguson i would like to thank you for the time that you and your staff took to put this together as dr lee had said um it's very important information for us to review and all the hard work you put into just getting the concept of merging the two tracks so thank you very much [Music] any other questions from the board can we move to public comment carol good evening i have several for you the first one is from david dear members of the board i would like to thank you all i'd like to thank you for for all you have done to make us safe while returning to school on a hybrid schedule however i believe you need the student perspective so you can make a fully informed decision my biggest class has five students in it every day it is not unrealistic and unreasonable to cancel the hybrid schedule and combine both tracks so those who wish to can return to school full time it is completely possible to do this and still remain six feet apart almost all of the classrooms have five or less students there are also a lot of cases that only have one student in class such as my first period class which only has two other students on gold track so for 90 minutes at a time all day makes it extremely difficult because it burns students out and makes it hard to concentrate with this in mind and the reasonable expectation that center can logistically handle such a policy i urge you to listen to the students and do what is right for us i urge you to open the school for in-person attendance five days a week from heather jones good evening i am a teacher at chs and i wanted to let the board know that i am very much in favor of combining tracks in my experience in the past three weeks students who are in person are getting much more attention from teachers they are asking questions and they are turning their work in on time i have also talked to many of my students about their mental health since returning to school and they all have said they are happier on campus than when off campus more focused on campus than at home and they would want to come every day due to these factors i am also one of the many teachers on campus who frequently has one student in person during a class period this goes against every policy we have to allow teachers be alone in their classroom with a student if we combined tracks i would no longer spend an entire day with one or fewer students in person i am confident in our school's ability to keep students and staff safe i know the safety measures we have put in place are working and i know that they will continue to work even if more students are on campus at one time i'm asking the board to continue to support those students who have chosen in-person instruction by allowing them to come to school five days a week from reece hein good evening board members i would like the tracks to be combined i know there's only a couple weeks left of school before students are let out although i want to put my personal thoughts first before anything i strive for combining tracks i believe it will cause things to go much smoother towards the end of the school year for students it's really upsetting knowing that me myself as a high school student didn't get that much of a high school feeling like other students in the past did because of cobid i think if i can speak for the freshmen of 2021 they didn't get a feel either even though i can't speak for all students but myself i didn't get the chance to ever start my sophomore year officially nor did i ever get the chance to end my freshman year i wanna in this school year right and proud with the experience of joining my enjoying my high school years before i can't no more and from nicole as a parent i feel that as long as the school can accommodate the students safely the high school students slash parents should be given an option of attending classes on campus five days a week since this change won't cause disruption i feel that it is a win-win i appreciate this school district and the consideration of this board [Music] and that is all i have at this time [Music] great thank you mrs hunt do we have any more discussion on this item um i have another question um have we heard any feedback from the unions about this [Music] i know i spoke with our cota president i know she was in favor of it she also has two students there i think she spoke at our meeting on wednesday night i believe it was or submitted a comment um i i for full disclosure i've not uh spoken with our cse president directly about it but i have not heard i haven't heard either way from from that association well and the impact to the classified students is her staff is not as direct as increasing the class sizes so i think it's probably not a concern for them that that would be my guess other than the just full disclosure i'm sorry i cut someone off but other than the exposure to like our instructional specialists things like that who were in the ranks that they they would see more so that that would be the the uh categories i could see so sorry i cut someone off i'm not sure no you didn't yeah you did that's okay mr laird that's okay it's no big deal um miss jones did uh touch on something that i've been meaning to bring up as well is that we've heard a lot from the students that they did say their mental has improved being on campus so um i appreciate her saying that and is it i just i'm sorry dr lee go ahead i'm sorry because we're all like um i i just kind of feel like you know really we've we've opened pandora's box it's open now um i feel like this what we're hearing over and over is the students who wanted in-person learning wanted in-person learning um and we could have surveyed them to know that instead of relying on a survey that didn't even pose those questions so i really think you learn what you ask i think this is a lesson for us um and i think we could keep talking about this a long time um but it's pretty i mean i i don't know i just think that the students have spoken the community has spoken we've all said our different perspectives on it i don't know if i don't know what's the next step there so i think the next step would be if you would like to call the vote i am all for that okay i make a motion then that week that we approve merging the blue and gold tracks to one group at center high school i will second that oh mr bruno we'll second that thank you dr lee and mr bruno and we'll have a roll call vote mrs anderson aye mrs pope hi mr bruno aye dr lee aye and the chair votes eye it is passed can i also just state one more time thank you to the board but also one more thank you to center high school for their uh willingness to really work through this and mr ferguson dr lee did point out you are doing all the regular administrative jobs of the high school um at center high school and so i just want to publicly acknowledge your efforts as well as the staff both classified certificated for for really working through so thank thank you all uh for that okay so the next item on the agenda is advanced planning um and i guess this would be an appropriate time to tell you that oh i'm sorry mr jordan did you have a question all right yeah i think it might be helpful for those that are watching just to reiterate what date this officially starts oh good idea so uh thank you mr jordan i that we didn't even get to that so mr ferguson and i had spoke as we've been rolling in with um uh students from our our identified populations one of the things we were looking at is not starting until next not not the coming my name may fourth is it mr ferguson may one wait one more week and then make the adjustment yeah may third gives us the time to make sure that we can double check the numbers on those classrooms to make accommodations notify families and make all those changes [Music] so now we have this last day of school the 27th and if we do it on the third gives us four full weeks and that would have been the next time that the the tracks would have transitioned on their days so we did two weeks on one track two weeks on the other and then this gives us the last month of school four weeks on full learning okay okay okay so moving on to advanced planning we are scheduled to have a board workshop on saturday may 15th um unfortunately i just recently received notice that i will be expected to attend delegate orientation on the same day so i've reached out to them to ask if that delegate uh training is going to be available at any other time and uh i believe mr lear was going to reach out to monica to see if there are any other options for the date of our training but i kind of feel like both are extremely important i can't be a delegate without going through the orientation well i could but i wouldn't be doing a very good job if i did and i definitely do not want to miss our um great beginnings team team building slash workshop so um it's up in the air at this point um we had originally talked about the potential of putting it on may 22nd or may 29th i believe so if those dates are still an option and they become available for monica with csba would that be an option for you guys i just want to note um uh president kelly that when i did my initial training i actually had to miss an entire day um with csba for the board the training that i signed up for is a new board member orientation and it was on zoom um and they it took a moment but they were able to get me the recording of the full six hours which was very fun uh to to be a part of an experience uh via recording for that one at the time but they were able to get it to me and i still got the same amount of credit for um that's good news because yeah that's really good news um and like i said i've reached out to ask them if there's any other option or other opportunity to take the training so we'll see what they come back with and my last resort would be to reschedule our training so um kelly this is the first i heard that you actually became a delegate so congratulations oh i think i think it's one of those things where it's either congratulations or condolences so kelly the the what i'm hearing then is are we going to wait to hear what csba says and options and then we would propose some dates uh are you wanting that or you want to hear from csba i can reach out to i did not get a chance to reach monica today would you like to wait and hear what csba says then i could pull pull the board on other dates or do you want to get some tentative dates i will selfishly tell you the weekend of the um may 24th i think it is is my my son is a senior and is graduating so unfortunately i do have a lot of uh family obligations that weekend so hopefully you know i don't think i've ever asked this but hopefully we could skip that weekend because my wife might she might get a little mad at me if i went to work yeah so it would either be the 22nd or the 29th so i'm thinking that you're referring to the 22nd um and so yeah i guess it would it's a little premature to talk about dates but if anyone is not available on the 29th and that is the three-day weekend i believe just to throw that out there if if anyone did have any sort of vacation plans but so why don't we why don't i can survey around we can always do even like try to get like a doodle pool if if we have to cross that road i i think it's critical obviously that all five members uh uh are present for the idea too so absolutely i think that given what um dr lee just said about being able to get the recording that's definitely a viable option for me so i i think this is all a little premature and hopefully we won't even have to cross this bridge so um hopefully that it all works out and then the next uh regular meeting will be may 19th at 6 00 pm riles middle school in person um and by virtual and live streams so um we have any suggested agenda items anything that anyone wants to see in the near future then do we have a motion motion to adjourn no in a second second thank you dr lee and general consent since we're all by by a virtual i think that'll be just fine good night have a great weekend everyone thank you

forty nine looks like uh silas jaesu nice nice backfield tackle there looks like no gain there and third down and 10 for east long meadow there's the game clock it uh it advanced 8 50 left to go in the first quarter east longmeadow from the shotgun again this time they have three wide left here's a snap quarterback keeps it up the middle and he's uh tackled hard by the westfield defense and maybe picked up one or two yards it was a real nice corner blitz by number 25 of westfield bombers came from the outside and forced them inside quickly for no gain 25 from westfield i don't see the 25 who's 21. was matt collins matt collins is returning the punt westfield's got the box loaded they have nine players on the line yeah they're going after him again and this time they miss him kick high kick straight up in the air gets a uh eastern middle bounce picked up by the westfield returner comes up a couple yards so that'll be about the westfield 23 or so yard line kind of robido made the tackle pretty solid so that'll uh bring the westfield offense out for the first time tonight at 7 42 left in the first quarter remember they only played 12-minute quarters here in high school football well i look for westfield to try and establish the run right now they're a little deep in their own uh what is that uh seven air line no it looks like the 23 is 23 i think yeah it's hard to see tonight what a contrast from last week so the junior quarterback takes the offense out to matthew adamites and again a bobbled uh snap right down the ground and uh hands it off out of my tans it off to a back in the backfield for no gain maybe if a loss don't want you there's a replay coming up on that so though the uh westfield snapping bobbles uh playing them tonight so that was a loss of one second 11 for westfield ball in the 20 say the 22 yard line snap again over the quarterback's head and he falls on it probably around the five or six yard line that's a real shame there for westfield bad start uh you know uh it was a big issue last week with the snapping and you know tonight's dry it's a very nice night out but uh westfield didn't seem to be able to get that addressed so there's uh first two snaps of the game a little jitters they they uh they're gonna continue with the shotgun if if these these snaps continue to be a problem i would expect they go under center soon yeah third and 24 on the 10 there's a clean snap there hand off to the middle run nice run up the middle probably back to the original line of scrimmage you see a number on the runner trying to get it yeah that was 18.

yeah 18 ryan samini big uh back for westfield nice uh gainer there so fourth down though picked up nine it's a really nice run yeah so west will punt deep from their own end zone or from their own backfield the ball i think is on the westfield 19. there's a good snap for the punt there's a punt clean punt and it's a pretty good one fielded cleanly by the slug metal back uh a couple bobbles but uh he got it and he was tackled quickly by the westfield defense no gain there looks like it's a of eastland meadow so that's uh you know good field position for east side meadow and is a good pump for westfield i expect the east longmeadow to continue with the shackling formations they've been pretty successful in getting the ball out to the receivers just a couple drop balls but other than that quarterback's been right on the money you know interestingly uh already tonight east line meadow has gone for two quick passes out on the sidelines and that was the same uh tactic that aguam used very successfully against westfield in islam meadows one for two on that right now but maybe that's something they saw in the weakness of the westfield defense yeah we'll see if westfield's defense makes a few adjustments here and trey's bringing their corners up they're giving them about a 10 to 12 yard cushion and that that's a will definitely lend itself to a number of completions they're short timing passes uh east longmeadow appears to have uh have done very well with it so we'll see if westfield makes those adjustments it's a little break in the action here not sure uh a little powwow with the officials and uh taking us a little while here to get started again well each team's had a possession now so they uh start to get a feel for each other we'll see if they can establish some type of uh a drive yeah the bugs are out maybe now huh so westfield defense comes out onto the field i notice the corners right now we're seven seven yards off the receiver so they've tightened it up a little bit oh there's uh no flag louis look at westwood jumped over is that direct snap to the quarterback yeah it was that's a quarterback option he just held onto it himself a little uh nice run probably four or five yards five yep number that's number five i think right for islam kind of uh nico mangia apologize nico and your family so that'll bring up uh second and fourth for aguam from uh looks like their 49-yard line from the shotgun again three wide left one wide right here's the snap quarterback drop back there's a pass to the deep on the left sideline the uh east long meadow sideline it falls incomplete a little underthrown there so if you're looking at bullings field the school side of the home field side is where we broadcast from and across the field is the visitor's bench in the visitor stands and that ball fell out at about the westfield 30 yard line to dial that up again he was wide open it was just uh you started throughout the throne yeah yeah so like i said it seems to be uh apparently a soft spot same same set for uh east long meadow again a little bit more uh looks like almost like a blitz here for westfield third and fourth there he goes here he comes right up the middle yeah and the quarterback eludes him oh but he gets hit hard wow that was a nice stop right about the line of scrimmage fourth down again so so we talked about this being a defensive struggle whoever could uh could keep containment here would uh probably win this game it's not going to be a high scoring game neither team has proven to be able to do that westfield averaging just over three and a half points again each game east longmeadow 14 points a game so mistakes are going to play a key role here you saw metal back to punt ball's on their own 47-yard line westfield kick returners back about on his 10.

here's the snap oh it's high snap and it's bobbled by the punter and he falls on it and westfield tackles him there and that's a great opportunity ed for westfield to get some points up on the board here look for uh westfield once again to establish the run they had a couple nice running plays one was nullified by a penalty the other ran for nine so let's see if they can go off tackle again and establish that run yeah that was a great defensive stop there by westfield to bring up that fourth down that was great penetration by the middle linebacker that really stopped that quarterback in his tracks so this is it for westfield on 417 in the first quarter they're got a great opportunity looks like they're on the east long middle 30 first and 10. see if they can get a clean snap off here and put some pressure on each long metal pretty good snap and adamites keeps it and goes wide right around the end and he's still on his feet and he's brought down about a five or six yard gain he made a nice cut on the inside there yeah it was nice play by the westfield offense i think that was a quarterback keeper so you got a first down run there it was a nice play action he faked it to the halfback kept the ball himself went off tackle here's that run up off tackle on the left side nicely done about a four or five yard gain there maybe that'll bring up second down ryan samini on the gainer and that'll bring up second down and six so bombers are marching here offensive line is doing a really nice job pushing them off the ball let's have to get about a two to three yard push enabling these running backs to get a little bit of running room there's a high snap but uh adamites gets it hands it off it looks like uh maybe samini again off the left tackle and said about maybe there's a flag down i think on the play replay on that pete yeah see what the call is by the official here you're gonna march them back that's a shame bowling call so i'll bring them back 10 yards so second and 16 for the bombers on the east line widow 29 getting ready for play here again looking right into the sun it's a tough sun tonight corners are 15 yards off the ball giving plenty of room to those receivers nice snap there and a play action again keeper quarterback keeper he's got runs around the end yeah he's still on the sideline he's running 5 10 15 yards as he gets in touchdown touchdown nice job by westfield touchdown good run there [Applause] you can hear the announcer that's a big one tonight get on the board early 253 left in the first quarter here comes the replay it was a great run by the quarterback again dan this is going to set uh some basis for some more plays down the line to continue with this play action uh options uh with quarterback keeping uh it's gonna open up some passing late later get a number on the point after on the kicker 23 is it kicks up and i think yeah it's wide left pete did you get the end zone cam on that one did you 23.

that looks like uh antonio adams maybe was a kicker oh you did yeah yeah wide left on that one so uh 253 left to go in the first quarter westfield up six to zero over the east longmeadow spartans nice uh set of runs there by the westfield team and hopefully they can build on that and keep the ball on the ground and keep punching it well as i said with the play action plays that they're running right now is going to set up some passing later on they're establishing the run very very successfully i anticipate they'll continue that until uh east longmeadow proves they uh can't run any longer all right so the westfield offense gets ready to special teams for kickoff band is playing it's uh jazzing everybody up here we go and the kick is up and uh nice good good kick great nice feel by the kick returner at about the 20-yard line he's up still on his feet going cross field up around the 40 40 yard line 45 yard line i think and he's tackled hard by the west field it's a nice run number 10 preston longo from east longmeadow that's impressive that you can pick that number up from here [Music] so that was a good good kick return nice job by westfield to an open field tackle to bring him down so uh east long meadow offensive going to gear here at about their 44 yard line first in 10 24 left to go on the first quarter so westfield backs are giving the wide receivers a fair amount of room still sitting at about six seven yards right now um same formation they've been using it's quarterback keeper right up the middle westfield defense nothing going on there they were able to stop them maybe a yard gain pretty close to the line of scrimmage tackle by uh number i think it's 61.
⚗ AI-reconstructed · cite from original above
yeah good size tackle yep so three yard gain on that second and seven that'll bring up watch for that wide left guy that's the same uh corner pattern looks like he's going back back he's back to pass yet on the sideline there and oh fumble well it looks like uh maybe on the ground but uh islam is saying they got it so a little maybe a five or six yard pick up there it's an interesting formation they have three wide words it forces the safety to come up to pick up one of the receivers the other quarters play in man the man and what's happened now is he's got three options on the right side with one guy being seven yards off the ball the other about nine to ten he's manned up on him right now drops back five yards runner in motion and he picks it up nice back from the quarterback but he's caught by the westfield defense right on the line of scrimmage and brought down so nothing going on there they'll bring up second down from the westfield 46 got a replay on that beat good looking start but nothing there all right each long metal offense there's a snap good snap and the quarterback is hit hard by good penetration by the westfield defensive line yeah that was a corner blitz there's number uh ah geez you can't see that really wish i had his number he deserves to be acknowledged for that it was a great tackle yeah it's a good sack there i think you should get the monocular on him nice play by the westfield defense that'll bring up third down at 15.

53 seconds left to go here in the first quarter see if they get a playoff looks like they will long count here less field playing man-to-man and there's a snap good snap he drops back and pass over the middle and it falls incomplete so nice job by the westfield d and 27 and a half seconds left to go in the first quarter clock stops with the incomplete pass bring up fourth down so what do you do here if you're east line meadow it's fourth down middle of the field well there's well uh it was incomplete i mean these receivers are getting open i think they're just not ready for the ball i mean the quarterback's doing the right thing by seeing the break in the in the pattern and trying to get the ball out to him the receivers got to get their heads around a little quicker so there's a timeout called i think by islam meadow they're going to think about what they're going to do here next so uh pretty you know interesting spot here for east long meadow middle of the field fourth down they're down by six so it's early in the game still it's really enough i expect them to punt though i don't i don't think you're gonna take too much risk here um they're at midfield they can try and pin them inside the 10 20 yard line let's see what they like to do good good crowd tonight here at billy bullins field i'm glad to be able to bring this uh broadcast to the westwood community tv program eddie bartolo the color man dan knappick called play by play glad you have uh with us tonight and enjoying a friday night football game with the westfield high school bombers versus the east long meadow spartans it's a senior night here in westfield it's also the last game of the season and the covet shortened season so i think everybody's sentiment was they were just glad to be able to get a season done here yeah my heart was broken for these players i think that possibly they wouldn't be able to play their last game and it's special to every one of these players all the years of practice and commitment to a team so he's so i'm going to line up to punt and they're going to punt no fancy stuff here good good kick and over it oh in the westfield return it but recovered it nicely uh looks like to be about on his 20-yard line of their bounce so westfield will take over 20 seconds left in the first quarter so it'll be first and ten bombers from their 26-yard line yeah it was a nice uh senior day ceremony we saw to introduce the players with their with their parents and uh you know it's uh try to give some normalcy to the to the student athletes here you know that was a nice thing to do absolutely so westville offense uh takes the field let's uh look to see if they'll keep the run play going it's been pretty successful so far tonight some hand signaling going on the player coming in late from the sideline for westfield that's a good word pete discombobulation uh there's a good snap back to the quarterback in the screen pass and looks like it could be for a loss maybe if not maybe just barely that's the first time westfield's put the ball in the air um i would like to see him do it off a play action they've been successful running the ball and uh and i think it's drawn in some of the corners so to see them get the ball up in the air a little bit more often that ends the first quarter westfield six east long middle zero so they'll switch the field up and uh ed to your point i think the uh with all the problems with the westfield's been having with the snaps that probably is uh gives them a little bit of a pause you know to uh for for throwing the ball and uh make him a little bit more careful here so now you got the lead you're going into the second quarter you've been successful on the ground but you also need to keep the defense honest and mix it up with a pass every now and again absolutely but i'm not really sure you know i haven't read anything in the paper as to what was going on with the miscommunications with the snaps but i had heard a little bit about it going into last week's game but you know it was understandable last week it was miserable weather aguam had its fair share of miscues as well well the conditions are pretty ideal today just a little bit of wind see a couple of marines here on the sideline perhaps there's a player going to go off to the marine corps a band entertaining us under the direction of pat kennedy does a great job as always it's good to see the student band here and all the students on the student section and everybody's got their masks on and spaced out pretty well so uh east long meadows uh going to come to the field here at westfield uh is already on the field so westfield is uh going to go over here and go on offense see what they can do you know clock control is a big part of a game when you're struggling defensively if the the what bombers can put together a little bit of a drive here i think it'll really force east longmeadow to put four up on nice run again up there right up the middle that's a good gainer there looks like uh maybe 15 or 20 yards yeah it's been there the whole first quarter um once again i think if they continue to run the ball like this they'll be able to set themselves up for some good play action uh opportunities here it's a 13-yard gainer for westfield that's first and ten on the on their own 40 here there's a snap high snap but quarterback keeps it goes out to the sideline in the near sideline still on his feet flag down flag down in aguam after about a 10 yard 15 yard gain stops him looked to be a hold yep that's too bad that flag came out quick too well left tackle tried hooking him in and he uh reached out and grabbed around him that's kind of what sprung him i know it was another tough snap from westfield the sun is now like dropping down perfectly in her eyes so it's very hard to see feel the play it looks like it's going to be like that for about 20 minutes or so so westfield is uh first down at 20 from their own 30 now good snap there screen pass the near sideline tackled quickly by the same metal defense really nice job of defense by east longmeadow they had four guys out there on one so no trickery there no second and twenty right should be second and 20 that's correct on the 30 yard line 10 51 left in the second quarter here's the snap pretty good snap quarterback throws to the sideline and it's overthrown incomplete third down at 20 for westfield you know watching the games here now uh five quarters in it's kind of like a challenge to see if the ball is going to be a good snap or not you know you got to feel for the center boy you know it's uh he's got to be very nerve-racked at this point well westfield's got nearly 100 yards on the ground already so i would really like to see them continue to run the ball yeah i'm a little puzzled as to why they're going all the way to the uh to the passes lately here here's another riddle yeah up the middle nice run there nice game they uh i think that they'd have better success and it fatigues the defense too the more they run the ball the more plays are on the field the more fatigue the players are going to get so that's ryan samini on a 10-yard gain there that brings it back to the original line of scrimmage and that's fourth and ten that'll bring out the westfield punting team here so westfield up 6-0 10-10 left to go in the second quarter here in westfield billy bowen's field nice snap there pretty good punt and over in returner lets it go and westfield puts it down looks like about the 25 yard line or so on eastland meadow nice play there so this is kind of a game uh a field position going on here right now they're like boxers trying to feel each other out still and uh nobody's really you know moved the ball too tremendously in the red zone but two diversely approaches to their offense too east longmeadow looking to stay with the pass westfield being successful on the ground um one of them's going to break here we go east law meadow offense set to go and they're on 25 first down long count here yeah nice snap there quarterback rolls out a nice pass in the interior and he's tackled quickly by the westfield defense on the sideline it was a real nice route by preston longo of east longmeadow he uh came in did a fake slant in button hooked around and caught the ball right on the numbers it looked like a nice tackle by wes with 23 i think antonio adams oh you saw meadow here's a snap handoff up the middle nice job by westfield's defense they've really been tight up the middle haven't been anything there for them i don't think they have much on the ground third and five on the 30-yard line [Music] seems to be his favorite target preston longo's wide left here right now he's been active in virtually every pass pattern play there's a snap i snap quarterback gets it drops back into the flats and it's a tip but uh falls incomplete and on cue right to preston longo yeah that was kind of a pretty quick hit there by the westfield defense on long ago but they got there in time so it wasn't a pass interference so that'll uh bring up a fourth down and that'll bring out the simoneau punting team so a good opportunity here for westfield uh i think the punt return is back about uh 35-yard line maybe the 40-yard line can't see a number can you see a number i can't i apologize you gonna get that from the end zone pete yeah great opportunity here for westfield shank kick to the westfield sideline right about the 45-yard line at the 50.
