uh unlike in the model three there will be three moves but again it makes it really simple because i'm i'm one time once i'm once i go from this base of elementary i'm only going to one middle and then to one high school i shouldn't for follow up because you you got me there on the model 3. can you go back uh dr mitchell to the high school in the model 3 the programs okay so and when we when we look at the dual immersion at the high school um just to get granular with that idea real quick could we imagine again other than the subject english could we imagine some of our core classes being taught in a different language because that's what really a dual immersion for my understanding of dual immersion model looks like that that could serve as some of the needs of some of the kids in our district yeah so to your point um you are 100 correct um dual immersions at the elementary level are pretty stuck right you're going to go 50 50 you're going to go 90 10.

at center high school at mcclellan they do have a period that they get credit recovery stuff as i think i shared with you as well so um agree if we move if the if the will was to try and move center high later it does put those elementaries much earlier the first proposal was 7 15 a.m for uh elementary and so it we really tried to balance there's so many variables that we're dealing with it it truly is a a hard thing i i get the intent of the law but when it comes down to the practicality of the application we try to do the best we could so [Music] i kind of had the same thought that it seemed like the the purpose i knew the purpose was for the middle school and the high school because of the you know science but yet the elementary schools were the ones that were starting later and later so i i just was curious if now i understand you you need a certain amount of time for the high schools right in order for them to fill all their classes in correct and so if you start the elementary schools earlier than that then it gets way too early right because they've been forced because you've got to figure out the whole puzzle you've got to get the kids back around in the high school piece of transportation they don't just go to one region of the district they go to all regions and so it takes time to turn turn the transportation in between and then there's also sports at the high school in middle school so that kids are missing classes correct if we go too late so we're we're adhering to the letter of the law the spirit of the law but we're giving the elementary school kids an even bigger right i couldn't get that trust me it's operator am i in it we hear you again all right we're just stopping if we get it glitched out we will [Music] so i have a few concerns with this um i've heard some feedback from the community about uh dudley and oak hill start times being on the later side and that making it difficult for parents i like what you were saying about the breakfast program and the school's trying to work with them um just in light of everything that's been going on this past year i know that you know keeping jobs and making it to work can be a real struggle for parents so i think we need to be aware of that um also looking at the idea of a sixth grader from oak hill with a 9 25 start time going to riles with a 40 minute earlier start time that's gonna be quite a shock um so i understand it's difficult to place all these things but these are things to keep into consideration um i have very mixed feelings about wanting the later start time for the high school especially um and balance and the benefits that come with that balancing that against the athletes and not missing too much school and all of the other after school programs and everything stretching out their evening late just i i'd like to say that as our district continues to expand and we that changes logistics we might want to reconsider this in future years absolutely one of the things that i know mr diesel and i have spoken about too is transportation does guide a lot of this we struggle as every district does for drivers if we have a plethora of drivers i might have a different thing so if as drivers increase as we get busy is things we certainly can revisit this um but under the conditions we're under right now i hate to say it's the best we could possibly do to try to meet all those different variables but to take your point mr bruno as we move forward if it becomes accessible to to alter either way then we could certainly entertain that i also think one of the considerations we might want to think about if and when we do change is that a lot of times the parents go to work and the older kids are responsible for getting the younger kids to school and so if their school starts before the elementary school then that's a challenge now i i don't know if problem that's the challenge district the challenge we have right now with our elementary starting 8 50 and later yeah and then center high school in mcclellan at 8 30 and then 7 40.

student body president i have seen firsthand how truly powerful this class is and i'm so proud of every single one of you for how far you have come we've all grown so much since we started school at ironwood ridge and it doesn't stop here all of us have worked so hard to get here and the time has finally come where the caps will fly and the parents will cry on august 10 2017 we began our journey in high school we walked these halls as the smallest people on campus and we're all deathly terrified of what was to come i remember when i was incoming freshman i was told about this thing called freshman friday where on fridays freshmen would be pushed into the trash cans luckily this was something the only kids were just joking about to scare us but before high school started i was convinced that being pushed into a trash can was going to be the biggest hardship i would face little would i know that was actually going to be a pandemic that i would be part of a historic senior class that would have to battle through all types of physical and mental obstacles thrown at us everything that we have been through over the past 14 months will only make our generation stronger history has proven that difficult times shape society for the better on august 2nd 1955 the space race against the soviet union began in order for the u.s to get men on the moon we needed to vastly improve our current state of computing power we were able to get humans 240 000 miles away from earth and onto the moon with computers that had less operating power than a toaster the apollo guidance computer had a memory of 64 kilobytes and operated at 0.043 megahertz just to put the into perspective an iphone which is a huge part of our teenage lives has a memory of 128 gigabytes or 128 million kilobytes and operates at 1900 megahertz americans knew how important beating the soviets to the moon was so the pressure that was created allowed them to adapt and overcome obstacles just as we have this year what a lot of people do not realize is that we have such powerful technology today because of the space race the race against the soviet union put pressure on americans to improve our computers for years to come the generation that grew up cheering on neil armstrong to take the first steps on the moon essentially shaped our society today but guess what we're next our classes learn how to overcome so many challenges that we are going to be the next ones changing the world we may not know exactly what will change right now but it's your job to find that out now it's time to take on the real world and pursue our passions as the great chinese philosopher confucius once said wherever you go go with all your heart the ability to be great is never taught it's found within one's heart we can all do great things it's just a matter of how badly you want it whether it was in the classroom or on a zoom call we all found a way to persevere we had some challenges here this year but every single one of us proved something that we have what it takes to be great i hope there's at least one thing that you can take away from this year and that is to believe in yourself believe that no matter the circumstances you have what it takes to succeed whether your success is recognized by the whole world or just some friends know you tried your hardest take all of the new skills you learn in your time at the ridge to whatever your next chapter may be whether it's the military trade school the university of arizona pima community college or the school up north be the change you want to see in the world to finish the speech i'd like to thank all the staff at ireland ridge for giving us students an amazing environment to grow without you guys we would never be the young adults that we are today and to the rest of my fellow classmates remember once a nighthawk always a nighthawk now will the class of 2021 please rise please move your tassels from right to [Music] [Applause] left [Applause] on the count of three we're gonna toss our caps three two one [Applause] [Music] congratulations a crowded one thank you very much thank [Music] you [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] so [Music] where the music don't stop [Music] [Applause] [Music] baby [Music] i'm one of the greatest ain't no debating i'm still levitated i'm heavily medicated ironic i gave him love and they end up hating on me she told me she love me and she been waiting been fighting hard for your love and i'm running thin on my patients needing someone to hug even took it back to the basement you see what you got me out here doing mighty threw me off but can't nobody [Music] i had to lace my shoes for the blessings i was chasing if i ever slip i fall into a better situation so catch up go put some cheese on it get out and get your bread up they always leaving you father but you run together way to the world on my shoulders i kept my head up now baby stand up cause girl you want me i want you baby [Music] come on dance with me

um i i'm going to go out on a limb and say covid monopolized that but um i mean do you have any thoughts where you feel the district from a teacher perspective i didn't mean to put you put you on the spot but if you answer mrs anderson then you have to be our delegate [Laughter] um i guess the one with the tabs that applies most for the teaching is the adequately inadequate attic equitably fun district schools to at least the national median per per people funding there's a lot of bullets under there that really need to be hit and continue to be hit as i sit in a school district and we need things better funded from what i saw coming out of the legislature and not a lot of these were able to be were able to be tackled um from i mean like i said i think covid and the impact um i don't think the asba was able to really focus on a lot of these and so in my opinion i you know i'm good at at all five of these and and putting them as our priority i think that they um what did what did i say we have um ours was the fun the finance formula i think which is important what's not on here one of ours was to fully fund um full day kindergarten another one for higley was the restoration of the daw which is happening i mean so they're they're coming they're working on it and um fully restoring the ninth grade jted ncte eligibility and funding and then the financial and academic transparency for all institutions that accept public funds so those were those are a little bit different than what we see here but that's what higley submitted last year and i i think you're correct mrs reese that last year with covet it monopolized everything and i think coming up this year some of the bills that i've seen coming our way are going to monopolize something these anyhow so um i'm really okay with whatever you all decide to be very honest because i think asba does keep a good focus the one thing um student outcome and it kind of again it's a double-edged sword because we do such great student outcome with not a huge pot of money and that gets thrown back in our face sometimes and i and i i dislike that so much because they say well you do such a great job with so little you don't need any more money well some districts do but there's a lot of our outlier districts that are struggling with student outcome um and that gets muddy the aspa also allowed us to submit to additional priorities last year and what we submitted was that we would we wanted um a dedicated funding source for pay raises for support staff and to rethink and redefine the role and purpose of state standardized testing um mr meaningful assessments so um so we were able to submit to additional um i i think that for me um i i like the five we have i like the there's just so much um there's so much that needs to be done i would like to see them continue to work on the financing formula which i think it kind of goes back to the adequately and equitably fund um it's it's a combination of both things i i if i remember correctly like our funding formula mr moore doesn't that go back to like the 70s uh the funding formula that the state uses okay so 1984 is our how the funding formula we're using so um so i i do like that we try and push for that too um so um all of it just all of it just make it all better everything yeah focus on everything this is reach that was all of it we want all we want it all just to let you know we want it all okay so if we can get some of these down i think we talked about manage the impact of um kovid and i think that that's still important because we're no way shape form anywhere near done with this at least from an educational standpoint um so i think that that was one i think everyone kind of chipped in and agreed on and then the public accountability so is that one that everyone agreed on that there should be the same accountability for everyone who uses public funds absolutely so that would be a second one we did it sounded like we wanted some of the preserve and strength and local control from a funding standpoint is that that's one of asba's 2021 do we want to have that one as well for higley or put up number five okay as a number five i like mr glover's i'll shout out to him his um standardized test and meaningful assessment i really like that i think we should i think i agree reading that i really enjoyed that piece um i think we're doing great job with pay raises to our staff even though they're not funding them but they're not funding it but we're handling it within ourselves i would like to see everyone able to do that um like president or i'm sorry board member taylor um said mentioned earlier there are some lower school districts that aren't able to do that but if we can only do five i would like to take well and these are pigley's priority whether they take them or not right to them this is what's important to us i want everyone in school districts to to be covered but this is what's important yeah redefine and rethink and redefine the role and purpose of the state standardized test and meaningful assessments i like that quite a bit doesn't that fall under the improve outcomes for all students tab under it says um the state standardized testing shall not be used for any purposes other than a year over year measurement of student growth and then tested subject we can just pull a certain bullet point out though and make it one of our like okay we don't have to follow we don't have to use the whole correct okay so we can pull one out and just kind of say this is kind of one of our focuses okay if we'd like it makes it a lot easier mrs reach is that four or is that all five manage covet manage the impact of covid and public accountability then we have funding formula and we have this assessments okay and then local control got him okay so nothing's on there for the adequately and equitably fun district schools so we couldn't find anything in that one to add or can we do the two additional they haven't come back and asked us for additional because when we did the additional they came back later on and asked for more um and you were i'm sorry when were you just asking the first one so the very first time the first time it's the things that happened yeah so adequately fun programs yeah exceptional student services um you could put that as our fully the the funding that's the one we pulled the finance the formula yeah that's the one that has the finite the formula to adequately update that oh they are asking us for additional i apologize mrs anderson yes two additional it's something towards the classroom i mean there's there's several in here we got fully restored ninth grade cte cted eligibility funding to allow students to explore career fields and our certification completion um allow the cteds to serve students through the age of 21.

once they hit middle school there's a lot of different iterations but yes the most common and the most um prescribed and the most researched would be that once they get to middle school they are taking two of their courses in that the other in that other language so in this case would be spanish and then further to your point one would be spanish language arts so not spanish spanish language arts and then a some kind of content uh in in spanish so yes we could imagine that because the other thing that happens with dual immersion it's research it's every program that exists you start with a big base of students and every time they move up it dwindles and every time it moves up it dwindles so we can very easily see how this could uh this could thrive and survive at a high school the other thing i wanted to say to you mr fernandez and you talked about this you know coherence of program right and so and these are just these were just options of you know some ideas but when you think about some of these they do align to the the pathways and the programs that are in the you know in the middle schools or even the 712 because you do have you know strong you know vapa and again you know you can take a look at any of the pathways when you're you know looking at any of these two so i mean i i would say that there is that you know there is a coherence to um to these other programs you know that we have so i think that's a good question i think that's and that's a good point we have three questions um first miss leslie jones then we'll go to miss meg and benjen um there was so much information and and i was trying to scribble in my notes and stuff is it possible for dana to share this slideshow with us just so that i can kind of mull over it and see all the the wonderful options that we have yeah i would be happy to i will create a pdf and then we'll make sure that gets out to the team so yeah fantastic thank you mick um i i have a kudos and a question um two years ago before the pandemic hit i remember speaking at the board meeting and saying as we're looking to the future and you're talking about a five-year plan can we please make this a reality because what we need to do is i'm going to say downsize but um align to our capacity so we can utilize our funds um so our kids can have bigger better stronger and so dana i don't know if you came up with these words or if it was someone else but this is the first time that i've seen a response to that idea of imagine dream innovate we're going to reach bigger and better for our kids so that we're going to be the shining castle the shining star in the hill and other kids from other districts are going to want to come and be by us so thank you for responding to my request two years ago to say how can we um look long term so that our azusa children are the best in the valley you know that they get the best in the valley so i appreciate this and i hope that this com that this committee helps bring this to fruition because it's not just okay we're gonna have a baptist school and we're gonna have a stem school it's you gave us more options you gave us an expanded possibility which i think our children deserve so i want to say that publicly thank you thank you thank you um but i want to go back to mr fernandez's question about dual immersion and i want to ask the credentialing question and then that is and and this may be just too simple because i don't know what i'm talking about but um wanting dual immersion to be successful and wanting kids to get their um seal of biliteracy on their on their certificate when they graduate their diploma um can a teacher who has a credential to teach high school math just teach it in spanish because they have a b club or do they also have to have a a credential in spanish along with the credential in math i know that i'm sounding really really basic but that's kind of do you understand the question that i'm asking and if it's really just you have to have a b clad in order to do it mr fernandez i want you to hold me spot on your staff because i think that that's an amazing is that is that accurate can you just have a b-clad and utilize that with your existing credentials so uh meg i want to make sure i understand your question so if it is secondary class in a secondary class can a person with a b clad teach a content specific class um and and provide a grade for that class because i i was asking kind of backwards so i am you mr from kiel and i have um a a credential to teach history for secondary children so i can teach history i am credential for that but i also have a b clad so can i having a b clad teach the dual immersion kids their history class without having to have an additional credential in spanish no the b clad the b clad is enough for the example that you're you're off or you're you're saying um where we get uh well when we get into the secondary the content specific credential is required in addition to the b class because that is something that already exists within our district you're not going to have to go out and hunt and find people because we have a lot of b-cloud certified teachers yes we actually are unique in that regard yeah that's great all right i would i will add just a little bit later to to to add to the flexibility um again when you look at dual immersion secondary the the second course that's in spanish i mean that that's all over the place sometimes you find it in science sometimes in social studies sometimes in mathematics and so and so yes that that adds even another layer of flexibility that um that really what the what the program proports is that there's this content course that's taught in in spanish so that adds even more flexibility all right i'm going to read jen's question with open enrollment and the specialty school model students will likely be traveling all over the district based on preferences will the district be committed to business students still be committed i'm sorry and i will take that one yes any other questions around the ideas that have been present you have another one we have a hand raised ms patricia thank you um mr mall advice may ask in regard to the busing is that going to uh be something that is mainstream for every student regardless of a specialty program special ed or anything uh that is in restricted funding it's just out of general can i can you freestate that a different way are you asking me where will the funding come from or will we have transportation available for all well we have transportation for all students regardless of uh if they're just a student that is not taking advantage of a specialty program so meaning that any student because i know that uh with certain funding is restricted and it's supplemental so with that if a student doesn't meet that requirement because they're not taking advantage of an opportunity it's just by location that they are going to now the school that is now designated as their near their their school of residence due to a closure of the school they had before will they have busing if they're not going to be part of anything they're not going to be part of any type of program they're just going to be mainstreamed yes short answer is yes so if a school if a school is closed and the student has been displaced and you have to go to another school yes just as we did with our uh last two schools that we closed okay uh and regardless like because like you had to explain mount view we were sending them to valley dale due to the dual immersion but do we have busting for students to paramount because they don't have dual immersion they don't have any uh they're not there for it's just because they've been displaced it was my understanding i would have to do research and team you can correct me but all students that were displaced from a school that was closed transportation was offered and that and that wasn't just to valleydale my understanding and i'm gonna say it's silly i'm gonna make a disney reference and that'll be for infinity and beyond come on buzz lightyear can i can i also add again just for for the power of the team right so as the power of the team again you know we we don't know obviously right now or i don't know um you know where where this is going right this team loves specialty this team loves bass whatever that may be but but as part of the package and by the package i mean the recommendation or the recommendations that move forward right this could be part of that of that package right part of that that we want to do this and because of this uh we are also recommending that we have you know consistent routes where people can you know take advantage of transportation if they wanted to all right now we have miss diana you're muted sorry just to piggyback on um mrs peelstick's question regarding um open enrollment um my question is with open enrollment and introductory transfers um how would we deal with um for example we're talking about capacity uh would there be a capacity limits to these programs or how would we deal with that if we have you know x number of applicants wanting to go to this particular school um and now we don't have enough room for them or you know that kind of situation what's our plan for that dana do you want you want to talk about that um what's our plan for that you know i'm i'm i'm gonna i'm gonna defer to uh human resources or arturo on that one because i i i'm not quite sure i don't i can i'll take it if i think i if i think i understand your question okay so um in all of these models right there is not an infinite and like an infinity school right they all have a capacity and they all have uh like we cannot go beyond that and so if i understand your question then yes that there would have to be a a a floor i'm sorry a ceiling to say unfortunately this school can only take x amount of students um and and it can't be more than than that right because physically we cannot we cannot do that so i would say that that's the the the ceiling if you will now again depending on what the school i'm sorry what this team uh decider came up and if they really love the specialty then i think we would have to roll up our sleeves a little bit especially if we're talking about you know moveability and choice and all that um on on kind of like maybe some you know step like step one step two step three kinda like we do for dual immersion we have the the term is escaping me but for dual immersion we do have like a like a list like a preference list so if you have a sibling in the program already then you get priority oh there you go it's a priority priority enrollment list right if you went to preschool you get a priority and so so maybe envisioning something to that to that fact uh just to be crystal clear with the community i think is a great idea thank you mr ortega you understood my question all right so we have five more questions so we have meg then anthony i will read melissa and jen's question and then we have miss edna um so i want to go back to what patty said about transportation but then i have a second question about the funding of that so i just want to clarify i really like your out of this out of the box idea of i'm going to say traffic or bussing routes where you're able to cover more space to get more kids i'm going to say on the bus in the past though the way it's been handled um is that if a kid has to be moved to another school because there isn't room for him like diana was talking about or um because um special education they need to be in a certain kind of class um then we bust but if a child chose to go to lee but hodge was their home school we didn't bus them because it was their choice i'm hearing you say that that's not going to be the case anymore that if somebody chooses to go to a specialty school we will provide them with the busing is that accurate is that the intent i believe that what latasha is saying and i'll double down on this that yes right we're dreaming we're imagining and we're innovating and so that is a possibility absolutely yeah okay so then go ahead please i'm sorry listen because we want the opportunity to be open to everyone we wouldn't want to have this amazing opportunity and just because a student didn't have transportation they have to say oh i'm sorry i can't participate no i think it's great i just i'm trying to reconcile in my mind with this shift of philosophy on transportation i think it's great but then i'm going to go to the second question and that's the funding and that goes back to what patricia asked also and i need you to delineate for me latasha what you were talking about about the lcff funding versus the general funds because if transportation is now going to get paid for out of the general fund that hits a lot of other stuff so can you let me just clarify so transportation right now is paid out of the general fund and right now we have a fleet of buses that we could transport right now it's because of our current policies that we do not transport and we um and for some of our programs we choose to outsource and that is because of the severity of the students that we transport but we have the fleet and we have drivers that are capable to provide transportation just like we do for our um home to school students that are that were displaced as well as we do for athletics and then latasha just to to add to that right if this is this is fair like we're talking about model 4 and model 3.

so it is it is a challenge i mean and then the second thought i had was uh if our problem is getting drivers then maybe we need to revisit our salary schedule for drivers the same thing we have and we continue to and i know every district did we look at combining drivers with custodial staff like we used to do we did but we the training and stuff is so different now for drivers it is it's extremely intensive um and we're actually increasing their hours to try and make sure that we get them on because getting a two hour during the day is a hard job to fill for someone who has a very highly technical and extremely responsible job yeah you know taking 60 kids to school is a big deal so it it it's the nature of the work i mean they they are driving a classroom you know it's hard with the classroom but now put them on wheels and you're driving around town picking them up and dropping it's stressful and i give them kudos left and right and they're remarkable people for for doing that and they're trying to manage these students while keeping their eye on the road correct correct mr jason how many bus drivers are we um do we currently have we need 13 okay and i believe we have um nine right now we do have a we do have a class coming up a training class and we have four people that are that are signed up for it already so we're hoping that our training class this summer along with more hours to provide for the driver as well well we may even be able to steal drivers away from other districts if we're offering you know more hours because that's what people are looking for you know they don't want to have a five-hour route they want to have an eight-hour round so how long is there training it's um i think it's 40 hours in the classroom and 20 hours behind the wheel and passing that 20 hour is not just behind i mean the test is it's it's grueling and then yeah you have a driving test from cdp you have to go to dmv and take your class v license um on top of the additional training every year you have to have 10 hours of additional training so do we pay for the training and testing and such have you we provide the majority of the training in those so basically the schedule is is due to transportation and you have buttocks and i don't know if i should really bring this up but the easy solutions for for you would be if we didn't have transportation it would be easy to determine start types or we could have more transport if we were able to get drivers but there's an expense involved in that you know if we have more drivers and we need more buses you know if your transportation costs doubles in order for you to have more control of your times that's those are the things that you're going to be weighing out so transportation is where we stand on buses because we've got to add to the best fleet if they're going to be building out there right and we are we're preparing for that that's that's not a problem um but if you want to increase service to be able to not have to take them when you talk to mike it's i'm not she can hear you or not from where he is if you um if you want to increase service to be able to provide like people picking up one elementary school school instead of picking up two elementary schools you're gonna have to double your drivers and double your buses so so it's difficult to you know i mean it's easy it's an easy decision but fiscally you know it's it comes down to fiscally being able to do it having drivers that'll actually do the work and then um having the times that you're on and look at the school sites and have like all bus riders on a certain schedule that's the you you they need to be taking and then they're the travel time in between because now you're picking up for the entire district and you're taking kids out of their quote neighborhood as well so um it's hard because as craig points out it's it's a fiscal decision but it's really not because if you don't have someone to spend the money on it's not a fiscal decision i drive through twin rivers and san juan to get here every single one of those districts have signs up but as we do drivers want it drivers needed it is as statewide as as miss mason mentioned we do our department does a great job cindy does a remarkable job organizing training we train them we bring them in and we're trying to make sure that the pay is good and the hours are good and the hours meaning not you know eight to five or whatever meaning the number of hours because if they can go over and get eight hours and twin rivers let's say and they're gonna only get six here well pay's pretty comparable i'm gonna go get the eight-hour job if that's yeah do we still use michael's as a consulting service all right yes we are down four drivers right now um so we are using michael's i believe we have one we try to keep it as low as we can but it comes down to you know do we want to provide good service and if we do we need to make sure that we have enough drivers to drive the routes and then the supervisors are driving the dispatchers are driving instead of doing the other jobs that they need to be doing so it's a challenge but it's amazing the way they pull it together day after day so thank you mr deason um for explaining how the it's connected to the transportation um and to um superintendent lair for um explaining why you know the 8 30 time is the is the greatest compromise we can get as far as lateness goes that that makes sense to me um you know especially for our students that are involved in athletics or you know extracurricular things um i still have a concern um with with the deadly elementary time and the oak hill start time um the guidance wasn't intended for elementary students it was intended for high school in in in middle school and so i wonder if those two schools are on the same route um and if they could potentially start earlier i'm thinking of families that have multiple students at multiple grade levels um convenience for them things that just make sense uh for for the age level of the students and that late start time for elementary schools i don't think it's something uh that anyone has recommended um so i'm just wondering if there's a way that we can move those start times up for dudley and oak hill um that would still allow transportation it looks like maybe they're on the same route that's why they're both starting at that 9 20 time because i'm saying because oatmeal starts at 9 10 right now yes and you start at 9 00.

like just something i want to advocate for things that really just hit straight to the classroom and for especially for students the cte one was one we had last year so we could keep that as an extra that would be great i just pushed that one forward or i i raised my hand for something in that area okay as an alternative another one the ninth grade cte j-ted funding to restore we could put on their funding all-day kindergarten that's been a hot topic even with our superintendent hoffman so um in that regards we could put that in there if we wanted as an additional as an additional i think that's a great idea okay so uh fully fun or fully funding full day kindergarten so that should be seven so if we agree on those do we need to second this again because i second discussion no because part of the motion was to determine okay so if everyone is in agreement with those five initiatives and then the two additional items for consideration any other discussion or comments all right all those in favor aye aye so that will carry 5-0 and we will get that submitted to the asba all right and that will [Music] conclude our board meeting for tonight so i move that we adjourn future agenda items anything before we move to a journey i was i was skipping that right now okay you can if you'd like but you didn't offend the agenda so yeah i was just if no one was going to chip in for future i wasn't going to stop there do you have something for future okay well thanks for asking no i figured if someone had something that they would chime in because it's like we have a lot coming all right well thank you mrs keller then again i move that we adjourn check it all those in favor i have a good evening you

uh in addition to just to clarify what the tasha just said and in addition to having the fleet of the drivers now if we're if we're going to land on a model 3 or model 4 now we're also talking about less locations it's muted anthony all right so um i also love all the the ideas and the imagining the dreaming innovated and all the little specialty schools that might be there so as i started to keep to try to keep processing and i was hearing everybody about just trying to process all the information um dana i was wondering if we might be able to add a summary of each of those like you were expressing that summary verbally i was thinking when when those came out and even if we got the slides but even as we extend this out to the community i think it'd be great if every one of those little specialties kind of had a little summary of what was uh what that entailed and i think that might be helpful for people just kind of remember put it together oh that's what that one means yes that part so that would just be a small request if that would be i can't yep absolutely i'd be happy to do that write that down okay dr mitchell yes say i'm sorry i got excited so say we made powell of vapa school what programming training and funding would change so um so currently powell is our school of the arts and so they have uh they have been doing some training uh and doing some work around um how they integrate the arts into their curriculum so i think it would be a matter of continuing on um you know the um any professional learning for uh for teachers maybe the if they had any teachers that hadn't you know had that training before um i think the other option is to think about um in this vapor space in terms of a you know a specialty school um to really take a look um maybe at some other models um and then be able to say what you know what do we have and you know there's a there's a lot of i will say there's a lot of really wonderful things um you know that they're doing and so i think that's an opportunity for the you know for the staff to take a look and say is there anything else do we want to change something or you know um you know how do we like how this is going and um or maybe it's you know uh you know reimagining you know some of their you know their spaces in terms of you know the lab space or something i'm not really sure but um but definitely uh you know professional learning um and then just really evaluating and saying what do we you know what else would what's possible i mean i think again it goes back to the imagine dream innovate um you know what's out there and and to take a look at that and study some of the other models to see what you know what sounds appealing and um i like to when i you know when i think about this idea of innovation and kind of design thinking and when you're doing things uh and you evaluate you know your programs um are there things that we do that we want to continue to do we've adopted these programs these are these are good these these stick these you know have great outcomes for kids are there things that we do that we want to adapt maybe we want to change something or we're going to tweak it you know and refine it or is it something that we say you know what that's just that's not something we can continue uh it's we you know not having the outcomes that we want or whatnot so um again this is all in the space of just an idea um and a real chance to be able to to to think about um you know imagine and to you know to just explore so okay i will read jin statement and then we'll go to ms edna jen stated that i have worked in the district within this model before and the students chose three specialty schools and could get placed at one miss edna yes uh with the focus being so much on capacity does one high school have the facilities that are going to be able to accommodate all the programs specifically i'm thinking with the increase in science classes and then the addition of the medical academy on one campus will we have to build more lab classrooms and storage areas in that one high school will will we that's a possibility um i mean in terms of you know when you think about the depending on what the you know what the model is what the options are um but to be able that you're right to have space for all those things so i think it would depend on what the model is um you know what and what is currently at the at the sites because i'm not i am not quite sure in terms of the you know lab space and all that i don't know okay next we have meg um latasha i'm not trying to pick on you um i have another funding question um knowing that we are receiving a lot of one-time funds that are coming from the feds from the state um if this decision is made by the school board i mean if we are able to recommend make a recommendation to the school board if the town halls are held and the survey results are tallied and the board makes a final decision i'm going to say by the end of this year over the summer um can we use some of those one-time funds to do a lot of these things related to the training and potentially extra things that need to be incorporated in order to make these specialty schools work is that is that a lot yes ma'am yes these are all allowable expenditures yes thank you mr ma do we have anyone else uh miss edna hannah's surrey so i'm not sure if she just didn't take it down oh then we're all good sir other questions about programs these are amazing questions that you're bringing up again this doesn't only benefit you it benefits the team uh as well are there any other questions around this gabriel it's kind of going along the the same kind of thinking regarding the the cost of modernization are is there detail regarding which programs are particularly effective in a district of our size so we can kind of look at the efficacy of the programs we're looking to bring in or add to the to the current mix because a lot of what we've seen so far we do have in play right now you bring up a good point mr fernandez um even in this dream right innovate imagine uh environment uh there are there is some newness uh for sure um but the district has been doing amazing things with some things and so this is just about to use dana's word from earlier right making it more cohesive making it more clear in terms of how it's articulated building a robust amount of students at the early years to to get fired up and to want to investigate uh certain pathways or certain programs so that by default uh we're we're exposing our students to a to a robust broad course of study um that would that that would help with that uh but yes uh there there are some costs associated uh to uh to some of the things that that have been uh presented today and so uh we will have to uh we will have to uh we're ready to uh to to be able to present right some of those those the ones that we know those ticket items uh for for you all i have another question you want to guess who i'm just joking go meg i'm gonna get you for that you watch um i i know that um you have gone out to look for what other programs could be first say elementary but i'm gonna go back to high school because i i did see a couple different academies that you potentially would create that would be brand new and so i i want to know if you've explored going to other high schools and looking at those academies like culinary arts over in chino hills or environmental sciences things like that where those academies can be put into place but that also offer trade school style classes that we could reinstitute for kids that it's not all academic you know put the wood shop back put home economics classes back you know the culinary arts academy i know over here they they they teach the business aspects of running your own restaurant you know going to the hospitality um institute over at um cal poly i mean is there going to be a time where other opportu you know people are going to be able to give input for other opportunities that will include those i'm going to say trade school or vocational classes for those kids that that's where they want to go that's the route they want to take yes no maybe so go for it they know oh gosh um yeah so i think you know again this is um these are these are just uh just some models and ideas right again we're you know we're not uh you're not committing to you know saying okay they're gonna be these things but this was a way to be able to um put forth an idea to say if there are these specialty options what might be how but oh yeah i think you know i mean we're everybody's willing to you know to hear what are some of the other ideas that are out there um and the other thesis um is you know looking at what um what do we have in our schools in terms of that coherence piece um what are some of the things that um that students are very interested in uh and you know i can also say in terms of the you know san gabriel valley one of the reasons why we you know have some of the pathways is that those are some of the um you know careers and industries um that are uh are prominent right and and are in the area and things that you know kids are interested in so um but yeah there are so many other options but this was just an example um to kind of imagine what it might look like and to give you an example of if you do a specialty school what does that do to the you know kind of curricular and instructional focus um and that does take some time to be able to um you know have teachers work together to design and develop lessons that have this integration and so you know do we have to buy all new things no not necessarily um we have lots of different things but it's a matter of choosing you know the right um you know fiction nonfiction you know projects uh you know how you can use i'll give you i'll give you one example um in terms of like let's say the health science academy um with the robotics curriculum there actually is a unit that that has it's a it's a bio unit that that connects biology to the robotics and there is a whole project that goes along with that and um what the students do is they they're faced with a task and a challenge a question and so the question is is that uh it has to do with um [Music] a nest with birds and something happens and now they have to create uh this robotic system that uh replaces something in the in the biosphere anyway it's a it's really interesting and i think kids would really gravitate to something like that but that's the idea where you bring in you know your language arts your mathematics um your you know robotics programming and different things um and you know and there's an opportunity for kids to even design you know parts for their robotics with the 3d printing i mean the possibilities are endless but what you do when you have these focus academies is you create these uh you know these curricular uh units and that do have this particular focus and so again these are just options um you know this is um many different many many possibilities that are out there and we're always willing to you know to keep getting those ideas and and the last thing i'll say make to your point you know visiting other schools and visiting other places and seeing what other people are doing is one of the best uh professional uh you know learning opportunities that we can give ourselves when we you know have uh you know conversations with other schools about you know how did you do that and what worked and what were you know some of the the things that didn't go so well and actually you know physically when we're allowed to um doing doing visits and and we've had an opportunity to do that um throughout the years for different things so when you're starting um you know new programs that's an important piece you want to be able to go out and you know and and visit and get ideas okay i'll read miss melissa's question then we have miss jones so melissa states and model four as a ninth and twelfth class his size is the window will we then lose upper grade programs at these 712 sites well i think um you know whenever there's declining enrollment um you know there is that opportunity to not have as many sections and so in the secondary um you know in the secondary schools you know you you have a certain number of sections and certainly um that that could happen that could happen if there is a decline in enrollment and um you have to figure out how many how many students you have what the course requests are um and then uh and then build a master schedule accordingly so that's you know it's all that always is a possibility it's leslie um i i love how we're imagining dreaming and innovating um but i also want to make sure that we're fiscally responsible because sometimes when i imagine and dream my husband has to remind me we have a budget we have to work within our means we don't want to go over that we don't want to get in the red so we just want to be careful and i love how meg mentioned what about wood shop i know gladstone has has a wood shop it hasn't been touched since they closed it and we have these you know home economics i love these programs they're great because they're they're going into the future but we also need some basic skills that the kids don't have like home economics and some of these things and and the tech schools that not everybody's going to go to college they need an education whether it's a college education or whether it's a you know a technical school so we need to encourage all sorts of of um of education but i guess mine's not really a question but just more that we need to be fiscally responsible as a district to make sure that we're not over extending ourselves because that's we're putting ourselves in a dangerous spot if we dream too big uh miss mitchell just for clarification purposes um can you go to either the two 712s or the heist or the one high school it doesn't really matter which one you go to okay okay um is it this is the one high school but it's the same it's the same question it pertains to both of them um the pathways that you have listed here right so we talk about engineering we know that that's a azusa high school uh health academy we know that that's at glaston high school right but am i am i off base by saying that these other pathways other academies right we're using the word pathway right now because that's what's there actually already exists uh currently in our schools that is correct at one school you have the currently engineering uh information communication transfer all of those these are already things that we already have yep so the difference here in the innovate dream is that that we would start again like okay at the one middle school or at the tk sixes or the seven uh the tk8 to really really robustly get like a a massive articulation correct okay just wanted to double check yep for for the you know just knowledge for the for the entire group yep they're very good and yeah and the other the other piece too is that you and you know what um leslie i agree with you we i think we all agree when i want to make sure that we you know live within our means um and part of um what has uh helped fund um all of our pathways is that we have um we have a tremendous amount of grants we have a strong workforce grant and so there is a lot of different funding from from lots of different places but primarily for um our cte program is um has been grant funded um so and we've been able to get a lot of really cool um uh equipment and things um but just uh we've been just so fortunate and it just keeps coming so we're excited about that now we have diana oh hello everyone so these programs are great um so i'm going to change the tone a little bit um classified so obviously if we have to combine you know a lot of the programs in schools and and kids coming into other schools that to me concerns the support staff um where we consider to add more support staff versus cutting are classified that has that's happened in the past to support the teachers to support these programs to support the students because you know it's important i mean we have to function we have to make sure that all these programs and these schools run and when you have one person trying to you know in the office staff you know is there going to be more office support is there going to be more aids in the classrooms is there going to be more technology people coming in to support because that is a very important part because what happens is we get cut and then there's you know there's more work the work is there that needs to be done but then it gets put on somebody else um so i just want to ask about the support staff that we can consider to you know move people around if there's any way we can add versus cutting especially like in the kitchens you're gonna have more kids at certain sites to feed um and just to support because that's a main concern with classified that that we always that always happens during these times that um schools get closed or we get cut so and to all the classified that are on here and listening happy classified week thank you miss ochoa you could not have set this up better thank you for that question um we are going to get to that to that question and to that answer uh again we have reimagined the support staff that is something that we are going to be doing just like we did programs today and so those questions um will be will be answered and obviously when we when we do it then you can ask ask more more specific questions once you see what we have uh dreamtop in terms of again dreaming you know innovating and and imagining um but uh like we promised uh we're gonna end uh right at 7 pm today and so we we have uh run out of time um i want to thank you what a great conversation today um i hope that you have an understanding right of of kind of the the different options and the different ideas that we're throwing out there again uh we don't want to assume that that you know that what now what we're bringing to you is like yes awesome that's the way we're gonna go um this is this is up to the team how how we navigate this um but because we are out of time uh what we will do um is next week just to give you a preview uh we will open up uh the meeting with uh budget uh so a lot of conversations today it'll be the latasha show on on wednesday i will open it up with budget uh and we'll talk about that and again we'll have just a really good conversation around that and you know maybe there's data points that we've missed or that we need to clarify or talk about but we will we will be talking about that and today we got some good information as well uh to help us with uh with with that um and then um depending on how that goes uh then we'll move into uh the support staff as well so could they could they not move up slightly um you know to so that if parents are dropping off students at elementary middle and high school potentially um you know they they wouldn't have to do things so late and risk their jobs i'm thinking of people who are just coming back after coronavirus who need a more regular working schedule for the lower elementary kids dr lee i'm sorry um yeah so i think that the main thing that we would see would be is if we did move those two schools they are going to be in the 7 30 hour what about if we were to add just one new bus and one new driver what we're well two schools at the same start time well or maybe you know five minutes stag staggered instead of kind of address that issue and it might not be bad to just look at what that cost would be obviously the cost is not the issue necessarily as much as subscribers but it's something to consider to look at i know parents who are thrilled with that late start time we're asking for trouble if if we could get them all at 8am and all at 8 30 8 45 we would we would do it and so i so it's the schools forget take the high school out of the mix for a minute but it is improving too as well as oh we're getting a frozen feed here in zoo land there we go i'm just gonna stand right here because it works you're the antenna math recommended and when we have the opportunity to reconvene staff but i don't think that we need to jump into doing that until we find out how it works right and i guess what i'm saying is we're gonna have time because i can't jump into it there and we can't switch we need to commit to families for the year it's hard here can we move them can we move them can we move them it also gives us an opportunity to dr lee's point let's look at the high school how are kids it's a really difficult situation and um there's dr lee i kept saying i kept going back and saying give me five more minutes give me five more minutes yeah i want five more early it just you can't do it and cindy wants to in transportation but she has to tell us no because she knows she can't get the kids there and i don't want kid i mean i don't like being late and i i don't want to stress kids out because now they're running late they might have missed the opening you know i just i don't want to over commit on that and ridership is so unpredictable because you might have 10 kids throughout the year and then one day you've got 50 kids because it's raining or something you know you have to allow for the most so can we miss can i say one more thing right and then at the same time we can we can talk to transportation about looking at what would it take you know is one bus driver going to make a difference is it doesn't need to be two bus drivers and we can start looking at a plan on what it would actually take with buses and drivers to be able to loosen up the inflexibility of okay i'll start that one over it's from anonymous north country has started for the 21 years i have been working there after nine so it is our turn to start earlier why is this this is a concern now the two schools with the early start times have to change become a problem well and she's got a point is as miss mason was saying and myself oak hill has started at 9 10 since i've been there miss mason and as the anonymous said has started at 8 50.

right so this did come up at our council meeting today as clarification so traditionally spinelli and north country have been the late start schools for the elementary campuses starting at 9 10 and 9 15 respectively i think and then the earlier campuses if you can say 8 50 and 8 55 are the early start time and they were the early campus but it is a difference of about a half hour from the first elementary school to the last elementary school to start and then they go from those late late start times to rile's which is a 7 50 a.m start time so it is one hour difference so it is already a jump to go from elementary school to while and then the high school starts at 7 40 right now as is i mean in a traditional year i mean this is exactly so so next year with the prince with the teachers at um north country and spinelli are excited about is actually not starting after nine o'clock and of course o'hale and dudley teachers on the opposite view like oh my god now we're gonna have to start after nine o'clock instead of at 8 55.

so i mean we are already starting really late so a start time of the proposed 9 20 or 9 25 for some campuses wouldn't make hardly any difference and then the we'll be starting what 40 15 minutes later it's a tough one i've been preaching we should start later at the high school for years thank you ms mason yes do we have any more public comments here is there any more questions comments discussion do we have a motion to approve i have a motion to approve with an amendment of reconvening this and next school year no second okay um we'll call them dr lee abstine mrs anderson aye mrs pope hi mr bruno i'll take that as a call let's just start the chair about time sorry about that mister you're there okay business item c expanded learning opportunities grant plan the expanded learning opportunities grant plan e l o gp the district's plan to use elo funding to provide supplemental support to mitigate learning laws as a result of covid19 so this is the plan we've all been waiting for how are we going to spend that next bundle of money uh to help our students ourselves we have a presentation so the the the plan now is outlined in the pack up back up this is a portion of the money this is the state portion through ab-86 which this state is and so one of the things that this plan is not all-inclusive this plan addresses 2.6 million of the pot that we received as we talked last meeting when mrs coronado went through how the funds could be spent we had referenced some of these would be in there and so to give you a perspective on what we're doing we're looking at summer school the summer learning we have over a thousand students enrolled uh all students are welcome and it's happening at every site our goal is for this year we're also looking for next summer to offer this robust of a program i think we'll we will have to put in some other esser money to make that work we also are staffing with 7.5 intervention teachers at the elementary with eight classified support positions to assist for interventions to target our el students our special ed students are homeless our foster and students who have uh have learning loss during this time as we transition back um at the high school and middle school level we're looking at adding four teachers into that mix two at each to support uh as an intervention model to also look at credit recovery reduce class size and so it's a little bit more we're still working out the details on what those will look like but it really is to achieve intervention for our kids that are most at risk and have suffered the most from and i know miss kelly you and i talked about i don't like the word learning loss either it sounds really negative but to help kids achieve as a result of the the pandemic that we've been going through uh we have out for social emotional supports in this plan where we would add three additional mental health workers to to fully staff each school so each school would have a mental health worker one of the things we're looking at is we do have postings out if we can't fill it we have covered dollars we could actually supplement to bring a contractor to to be there when we start the school year um and then with that the social we're adding a social worker through this at the family resource center to provide targeted support for our homeless and foster students through mr miranda's office and actually i believe he had interviews and they have three applicants so i'm hoping that one of those were successful um and then that those items alone cover that 2.6 million dollars does that mean that we will not continue with things going forward we would want to supplement those and i want to try to commit to these things for two years once we see the esser dollars move in to be very honest i'd like to commit for three years but in my mind i'm telling people to and then we'd be able to roll forward when we get to lcap which you guys will get the pleasure of seeing here and next month we also have more supports for our students and and some targeted things that we're working to assist with the reopening piece through the esser dollars and then obviously our typical lcff funds but i want to make it clear this is not the plan that solves all the millions of dollars that we've received this is for that ab-86 requirement and i want to give compliment to mr jordan and his office mr bailey this was dropped on us when the 8086 was approved which was unprecedented they did that before you know the time then i think in march they gave us the template told us so that we've hit the ground running talked to with parents from our dlac today and our dac group and explained it to them they were very excited about the opportunity i explained the same thing this is not all we're doing this is for this plan what we're doing and we're excited to support our families you know you mentioned using some of the funding to contract and that is actually what csba is recommending is that it's a lot easier to use those one-time funds for contract services than it is to hire people when you don't know how long we're gonna be able to hire them for so there has to be a balance of course i would much rather see new employees than than contracting services but i understand those one-time dollars it's kind of teaching to kind of hire a person and say yeah it's going to go a couple years and then we may or may not have funding to continue it so um the the one thing and you you all know this i think is we we like to maximize our dollar contracted employees are pricey and uh i i tend to believe when they're and they're our employees i think that they serve us even better and we have found some of our contracted people over the years have gone i really like center and we've got them out of their contracts to help work for us so while i agree with you i would still want to to try and get our own people but i think as a backup as jordan i just spoke about this again this week is you know what mental health workers can we get we we don't want to hit the ground not running so that's definitely something any other discussion on this no we haven't got any losses that is a huge issue for me and if this is not all that we're doing i'm sure that there's other plans this this is a thing this is a big step to help i will tell you that this this puts a lot of resources in and uh i think we'll we'll definitely be willing and able to help and i think when we see more coming in and then i i really think the sustainability is what's critical with this not just one year and then we're out i really we've talked about when do these dollars start to expire and maximizing you know s or two when does that go out i so agree when does that go out and trying to put those monies aside so we can keep this growing because i think this is not going to be a one year and then the problem is solved it's going to be something that we need to commit to and work for i just want to thank mr jordan of course and mr bailey for getting this out to us such a timely manner i can tell that there was a lot of thought to it and the um maybe representatives that that mr marist thank you for your question man you said real quick it's really mrs my only concern is that this identifies it's a large inclusive list i agree that i'm concerned that a parent is going to see that list and say oh my child doesn't qualify the right child is being left back because they don't have special ed or you know the other things listed and those are criteria for uh you need to target populations so yes but when a parent comes to get service we we don't have a box to check necessarily we we serve our kids um so i don't i i i hear you but i don't think a parent's gonna read this but oh my gosh i don't cause we're gonna be in i know miss mason works in the intervention team right now at deadly we serve our kids and so yes we do have to target our populations because that is the conditions and and i think it's a good thing but i think we don't turn people away and these additional resources will allow us to broaden and deepen what we're doing compared to what we i'm sorry no disrespect what we have been doing because we're gonna have more personnel resources to actually make a difference but as school starts next year and these kids are identified in the classroom are the teachers going to be told you know let your parents know there's extra help we we have uh support plans or mtss process that actually help identify that and we will be communicating we set up strategies and goals uh and so yes they they will be reached out too and they will be provided with a differing level depending on what tier of support it may be tier one maybe right in the classroom it may be tier two in the classroom but it's more enriched so yes we absolutely this will look more like we're helping you versus someone having to research and find us for their help we come to you i almost would like to see something go home that says if you think your child is missing something let us know and we can evaluate it yeah and we would always do that and we also are looking at some different screeners that we do assessments social emotional and academic it will help target and start those conversations if parents are a part of it so yeah absolutely that's also part of the parent teacher conference right in the first quarter they come together and discuss the issues the student is having or in writing that we're here for you let us know you know even if you don't think you qualify let us know what you think you're missing any other discussion or questions concerns public comments this one is from anonymous why is a temporary position not being added at mcclellan to help support learning loss there that's a good question so one of the things is this this number of students that we have there and we believe it might be actually less next year so that is something we would target look at and if we need to we also have csi money which is an additional amount for title 1 that is providing an extra academic coordinator position so that is definitely on our radar but based on the numbers there right now we want to see where we are and then if we have to we would so what you're saying is that another pot of money is already funding an additional position that is there it was there this year and however it was copenhagen this particular pot of money you're basically reserving it based on the numbers that are at equivalent but it is still going to continue to be considered and as we see the numbers of students coming in and the ratios of student to teacher teacher and then we look at that we absolutely we're also doing a lot of credit recovery so we're not quite there to see who will be coming over so that's something that we will certainly visit plot of money that's going to go to this same type of thing but we haven't even figured out how much money it is yet correct we we have two actually sr2 is coming in and then still make sure we put that at the top of the list of considerations so mr jordan i have a question how does this pertain to the preschool do they have a pot of money for for their their group of students if you know for so long but we just hired another preschool teacher to be able to split that up to lower their class size down as well and supply the materials that they need and supplies materials as well and we can obviously continue to look as the year goes on and see what else they need has our class size increase or do you anticipate increase from that to next year it's hard to tell if it is a moving target because i would say based on history it will increase but kids haven't been interacting with each other either so there might not be but at this point we've added a second teacher or i don't know if we've added it but we posted it correct but we've got higher is and the chair votes i passed uh advanced planning as nick's from the agenda item number 16.

future meeting dates board workshop is saturday may 29th it will be live stream so you're welcome to listen in i believe um it might worry you the tears but we are basically taking a csva training called good beginnings so again you're welcome to pop in and listen on that there's a special meeting on wednesday june 9 at ryle's middle school here and then there is the regular board meeting on wednesday june 16th at bryan's middle school do we have any suggested agenda items um not necessarily for the next board meeting but i would like the board to think about the naming of the school west of briles um with all the building that's happening um north of pfp it's something that we should look into i did talk to mr diesen about this as well as mr laird they did say you know they're it's they don't know when it's still going to be that what school is going to be next it could be um it could be over in the lennar the unique thing about that and naming that is usually you don't name a school that early but we've owned the property yes and so to be quite honest we just call it future school so if the board wanted to take that up at some point it would it would help us with documents i know at one point it was uh rex fortune and then it got moved to the newest school which now we know is the sierra vista so if the board wants to take that up i would only encourage that because we actually own the property but i would not take up the because we know where schools will be we'll start naming this one and this one i don't want to get ahead of ourselves with with that so maybe august we can put it on the agenda sure and i would like to add an agenda item a discussion item to talk about doing a comprehensive survey of our students and families and staff prior to the beginning of the school year i would like to have a discussion item added to the agenda to discuss doing a comprehensive survey of our students families and staff and the contents of which would be the discussion fire because if we're going to do the survey through the summer we need to get movement on it yeah what's the survey on so that's what the discussion will be so june 9th is always it's that's the public hearing for budget and lcap i i would suggest we agenda is it for the 16th discussion if that meets with your approval and so it's just a survey and we don't know you know what kind of information do we need to gather to help serve our families as best as we can in the fall it's time dr lee has been talking about this for a couple of meetings now it's definitely a topic of discussion that's coming up in my master's in governance classes and my csba classes just getting a pulse on you know what's going on with the kids how their charter school was um what kind of services will help kids feel more secure coming back to school will help the parents feel more experienced um you know and just just getting a pulse on what's going on i agree but we've got to be cognizant because we survey our parents throughout the year all the time my point is that we want to kind of make it comprehensive not too much not too much information but at least get to the point of what what's our most important things we want to find out and put it all in one survey so we're not relaxing our family and we are surveying right now for lcap full disclosure lcap and elo i think giving it a little bit of time let the year settle so i think june 16th to discuss it is perfect yeah and then we can look at it and it will be summer so we'll have some time to put it together and then get it but i think if we want good results people are uh they're surveyed out like yeah so i think it's great that you are recommending we do this a little bit later a little bit later in time for fall planning you know to get the school started the beginning of the school year but also just like you said they're surveyed out so so you know if we pre-plan doing a comprehensive survey once that it might mitigate some of that over survey sounds great i have it down okay any other agenda items future agenda items do we have a motion to adjourn submit thank you much that's all i'm sorry in a second there you go we're done you got a real help

2021-05-21 Cape May County, NJ YouTube / CMCTS Hawks transcript source: youtube Dental Team 1, Dental Care for Seniors · passage 1
hi i'm kelly hi i'm caitlin hi i'm kayla hi i'm gianna and i'm kiana and we're the dental assisting students of cape may tech today we're going to be discussing the tips and tricks on how to keep up with your residents oral health and why maintaining their oral health is so important if you don't brush your resident's teeth it can prevent them from eating and drinking and they can even get open sores and lesions in the mouth an active tooth infection can go into the bloodstream and possibly cause a heart attack and if your residents have poor oral hygiene they may suffer from gum disease which can affect their overall body health so now i'm going to hand it off to kelly who's going to be going over the instructions on how to properly brush a resident's teeth okay so i'm going to go over a daily routine that all of your residents should follow the products i'm going to use today are a soft bristle toothbrush floss and a mouthwash it's really important that all of these products are ada approved because they've been proven to be the most effective so the first step is brushing your teeth so i'm going to use a recommended manual tooth brushing technique known as the bass method when using this method you want to angle the toothbrush at about 45 degrees with a focus on the gums to get the 45 degree angle you want to cut the toothbrush down the center and angle half of it towards the gums like so and move back and forth and you want to make sure that you have the front of the teeth the back of the teeth and the chewing surface next the floss about an arm's length of floss you're going to wrap it more around one finger once or twice around the other slide the floss in between each tooth hugging both sides and underneath the gums and as you go unravel the one side and rattle the other so you're not using the same piece of floss and lastly your mouthwash get about a cap size full swish for 30 seconds and spit it out and just doing all of these daily will help to maintain and improve your resident's overall oral health the next option that i'm going to be going over are the interdental brushes these are going to be useful for your residents that might have the wider gaps in between each of their teeth because that's going to let bacteria and food sit in there more easily and regular floss may not help so to use your interdental brush you're going to place it in between each wide space you're going to insert the tip and then you're going to gently slide it back and forth a couple of times you're going to do this on the cheek surface and then you're going to switch and go on the tongue surface as well so you're getting both sides again you're going to want to have your cup of listerine nearby so you can dip the tip in and get the debris off when they come out to use your air flosser you are going to place the tip on each space in between the teeth and you're going to use the puffs of air and then you're going to switch again and go to the tongue surface and do the same thing to use your small bristle brush you're going to go on their chewing surface where they have the dips and you're just going to get in there and make sure that you're getting the bacteria out that's sitting in there from the day and again if you need to you can dip this in the cup of listerine as well to wash the debris off for their bridges you can use the air flosser or you can use the proxy brush as well whichever one fits better or whichever one you have just make sure that you're getting that food and bacteria from the day out as well i'm going to be talking about the triple bristle toothbrush we recommend this toothbrush because it can brush all surfaces of the tooth at one time to use this toothbrush you would just place it on each tooth for two to three seconds slowly making your way around the mouth this would make a good gift for your residents friends and family for holidays and birthdays and it could be placed on the moving end list for your residents to have when they move in to use this toothbrush we recommend starting at one corner of the mouth and placing it on each tooth for two to three seconds slowly making your way [Music] around [Music] this toothbrush is seventy dollars and it comes with two interchangeable heads a handle and a charger if you can't afford to invest in this electric triple bristle toothbrush you can purchase a manual one for much cheaper i'll be going over how to care for your residents removable appliances i'll discuss how to keep the appliances in good shape and how to reduce bacteria from getting into the mouth we don't recommend using toothpaste because it can create small scratches on the appliances to clean the appliance we recommend using the pointed side of the bristle to clean the part of the denture that touches the pallet we recommend using the flat side to clean the teeth and then you would place the denture inside the closed container with the teeth facing down another tip we recommend is getting a white board for your residents like this one and writing down their oral care schedule for example how many times a day they've brushed and if they've cleaned their partials or dentures most importantly take note of anything abnormal in the mouth and refer your resident to a doctor because it could be signs of oral cancer we hope you can take these everyday tips and tricks and implement them into your workplace

community my name is colbert chang i'll be presenting an update of the third interval report if i can have access to screen sharing please you can screen share now um thank you okay so okay can everybody see my screen yes perfect thank you um good evening boardian um this is the memo that the staff has prepared and provided to you uh with regarding the update to the third interval report and i'm just going to read it for the records it's also for you to hear we'll start with the background pursuant of ed code section 4231 i'm sorry 42131 the governing board of each school districts filing a qualified or negative certification for the second interrupt report requires under section 42130 or classified as qualified or negative by the county superintendent of school shall provide to the county supreme school of schools the controller and the superintendent no later than june 1st the financial statement projection of the school district's funds and cash balance through june 30th for the period ending april 30th the district projects that it will be able to meet the reserve requirements for the current and two subsequent year additionally the districts will remain a positive will maintain a positive cash balance for the remainder of the current fiscal year the districts use the same key assumptions as it did to prepare the second annual report except in the third interim report one significant funding that happened here is the in-person grant of approximately 3.1 million dollars and this fund is reflected in the restricted general fund so the chart you see in front of you um reflects the restricted general fund as you can see here in this restricted general fund we started the year with approximately 2.2 million dollars in carryovers is projecting to generate 38.6 million dollars in revenue um a total of 63 million dollars uh in expenditures um 22 million dollars of contribution uh from the unrestricted general fund and this is to pay for special ed uh programs and also for routine maintenance um and with that projecting an ending fund balance of zero for year the district is projecting is it possible sorry to interrupt to scroll i i'm assuming you're going down the chart but i can i don't know if everyone else can only see like half of the spreadsheet there is it possible to scroll down to see the parts that you're waiting uh yes i'm actually going over the chart right now is that what you're seeing on your screen yeah but um i just didn't see some of the numbers that you were saying so i thought maybe there was stuff below but maybe not no no this so the charges are going over the the charge um circuit on okay um are we okay yeah sorry correction no problem okay so going into um year 2122 the district is projecting to generate or to receive a little over 33 million of revenue uh with a total expenditures of 57 million a contribution from the unrestricted general fund of 23.5 leaving a zero for ending balance and then for year 2223 the district is projecting to receive 16.4 million in revenue uh 40.6 million dollars in total expenditures um and 24 million 24.2 million dollars um in um contributions uh from the unrestricted general fund and also showing a a zero fund balance moving over to the next chart um this chart reflects the unrestricted general fund for this fund for this component of the funds the districts um is showing at the beginning of the year we started the year we started this year with a little over uh 12.4 million dollars we cannot see anything below where it says the first chart beginning balance it ends in total revenue so the stuff that you're talking about probably on the bottom we are not able to see on screen oh well i apologize i'm not sure yeah i think that's what trustee vegeta was talking about and then when you move to the next chart it still just stayed on the same one that you were talking about previously yeah let me try to i thought maybe it was something on my computer i was messing about that here we go and if you don't mind colvera i think it would be important to just review that so that everybody can see the numbers you talked about now what's hard we don't see the chart we just see one column oh okay thank you you see that can you think we should start over yeah that's that's kind of what i asked him i'm sorry i missed that yeah you know can you tell me what you're seeing now keep going because we just see the two first lines of the chart okay okay now what you were talking about so if you don't mind colvera reviewing i think that will be important sure sure and this is you're seeing the the chart that reflects the restricted general fund yeah and it ends on ending fund balance of the zeros um and then i also saw andres raise his hands a couple of times andres uh welcome and do you have anything to add or ask no no that's fine i just needed to be let in okay thank you okay so it's okay um yes yes okay thank you so again this chart uh reflects the restricted general fund um this chart shows that we begin in the in the current year we begin the uh the year with uh approximately 2.2 million dollars of carryovers from last year uh we're also projecting that we will receive 38 million dollars 38.6 million dollars in revenue and total expenditures of 63 a little over 63 million dollars with a contribution from the general fund unrestricted general fund of approximately 22.1 million dollars which brings the anti-fund balance to zero um for year 2122 the district is projecting to receive approximately 33.5 million dollars of in revenue um we're projecting to have an expenditure of approximately 57 million dollars um with a contribution from the unrestricted general fund of approx approximately 23.5 million dollars uh which leaves um an ending fund balance of zero um in year 2223 the district is projecting to receive approximately 16.4 million dollars of revenue and projecting to spend approximately 40.6 million in expenditures with a contribution from the unrestricted general fund of approximately 24.2 ending that year with zero fund balance um cover and i apologize for interrupting i do see ernesto's hand up so just want to make sure you're not done yes that's it is it a good time to ask questions now colbert uh sure yeah um okay other slide the first slide uh let's see are we there oh it's not the first slide on expenditures the you know to decrease those expenditures from 2021 to 22 23 from 63 to 40.

thank you nathaniel good afternoon family friends faculty and fellow graduates cba class of 2021 we did it [Music] [Applause] we have come a long way since we first started our education 12 years ago remember and we're curious about the world and what would be in store for us not too long ago our parents dropped us off in kindergarten with backpacks 10 times the size of us and now here we are ready to take on the world and what is to come one thing is certain during all those years when we're looking ahead to this very moment we worked hard and our time was well spent our lives changed when our junior year was cut short and our social interaction shifted from being in person to a google or zoom meeting however if not for covid cva would not have happened for us this school year it is because of our teachers and our families that we continue to stick together as a class more importantly our strength is what brings us here now to graduation day the class of 2021 will always be remembered to have graduated during a pandemic and it is because we graduated through such difficult times that we will not be forgotten because we are leaving behind a legacy we are the ones laying the groundwork that defines cva and the experiences to follow every single one of us that is here today has had an impact in one way or another on someone else perhaps you might have been a mentor maybe you are someone's friend or you simply made yourself available to listen let these experiences influence you to accomplish even greater things in the future our memories of high school will last a lifetime we will never forget them although i can't claim to have spent as many hours as some of you that have dedicated your time to cba of course our teachers and our several students spend an insane amount of time and effort to make cba great most of them do it of their own choosing i see our leadership club building our community by having movie nights and other creative ideas to make students experiences memorable that's dedication i've learned that it takes that kind of teamwork to survive in life i recognize my experience as limited but i've been able to conquer any obstacle because someone has been there to support me parents mentors friends teachers and listeners you know who you are we all thank you depending on the severity of trouble i find myself in i know that i have a support network this isn't to suggest that i'm a troublemaker i've never had detention and have only been sent to the office twice and even one of those times was due to a misunderstanding but even for me a relatively quiet student with some guidance and a whole lot of encouragement it goes a long way to get me through difficult times cva offers us unlimited opportunities to learn and grow together this is where our school truly excels well what's next i will be going to college as well as many of my classmates it is after graduation that we will soar into the world of new dreams and aspirations graduating high school is a major stepping stone within the journey of our lives class of 2021 the first class to graduate from cba has been through so much and endured through so much adversity we have shown how truly resilient we can be congratulations to my fellow classmates we made it we may be sitting six feet apart but we have never been so close thank you now let's reflect on our last year of high school and watch this senior slideshow together [Music] do [Music] my [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good greetings everyone i am angelina gustafson and i have the honor of speaking to all of you this afternoon on this very special day our graduation i want to start out by thanking everyone for being here and for the pivotal roles all of you have played in our education and personal lives thank you to our teachers who have worked tirelessly to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences that we will carry with us as we begin our individual journeys thank you to our parents guardians family and friends who have listened to us ramble about topics like nuclear physics at 11 o'clock at night apparently for no reason at all thank you for being our shoulder to lean on when we felt overwhelmed by the looming reality of adulthood thank you especially for your love and support and now to my fellow graduates the class of 2021 we know it hasn't been easy and i cannot promise that what is to come will be any easier however despite the difficulties we have overcome both socially and academically we have demonstrated our resilience we will walk this stage today cva has presented all of us the opportunity to break barriers exceed expectations and most importantly explore our academic goals on march 13th of 2020 friday the 13th no less we were very unaware of how quickly our lives would change we have persevered through pain experienced loneliness and suffered loss all while continuing to forage ahead to meet our goals not even a pandemic can stop us while we may have been physically apart this year mentally we have been standing right beside one another now i say we as in you and i but in reality it's our nation as a whole we have found comfort in social media platforms such as tick tock videos made by people hundreds even thousands of miles away from us that somehow know exactly how we all felt and if only for a moment we felt understood and unified we should recognize that the pandemic has caused so much negativity however at the same time it has also brought us all closer together we are not too different from each other and now more than ever we need to focus on the things that bring us together rather than the ones that tear us apart one of my favorite authors is john green known for his novel the fault in our stars and he is quoted you probably have figured out by now that education is not really about grades or getting a job it's primarily about becoming a more aware and engaged observer of the universe his words are suitable for today and we should keep in mind our education does not end here our education is fundamentally who we are and we will continue to learn grow and persevere while this may be the end of our journey together as seniors at cambridge virtual academy this is just the beginning of our pathway to success congratulations class of 2021 we did it thank you and now please give a warm welcome to our cva director mrs capps thank you angelina that was just wonderful i also want to thank our cba ambassador nathaniel ibarra for the welcome address and isabelle rosales for her speech
