despite all the academic and personal struggles we've encountered and the fear and uncertainty during this pandemic we have proved that persistence pays off by persevering through the things we deemed as impossible we now know that anything is possible it is with great relief and pride that i can say we finally made it before i get into how this is just the closing chapter to the prequel on our line on our lives i'd like to first take a moment to thank everyone for joining us here today whether online or here in the actual stadium welcome and thank you for all your of your support to our esteemed district board members and our incredible teachers and faculty i'd like to sincerely thank you for working hard to organize today's event and contributing to make a physical graduation possible as tony previously stated my name is janelle clementa and it's an honor to be speaking at today's graduation each and every one of us carries a story some stories leave heavier and messier markings while others leave behind lighter clear-cut trails no matter your story you made it we've all made it all of our hard work has paid off and i'm really glad we can graduate and embark on the start of a new journey together just like most of you here my high school experience wasn't the greatest and when i was in middle school i looked forward to starting high school there were so many things i wanted to do and i held my expectations on myself high as a result of the pressure i eventually found my self-esteem deteriorating with each goal i didn't meet this continued to break me down until i found myself avoiding school entirely in fear of failing every time i would walk to my english class and step afoot inside i get panic attacks which never really happened before i started attending therapy where my therapist issued a 5-4 plan for me even then the fear and the feeling of being a burden or a disappointment left me glued to my bed for a month then i was transferred to the independent studies program for the next semester i love that program there i could work at my own pace all the teachers there were nice and good-hearted but the program only worked for me temporarily i couldn't adjust to the lack of socialization and absence of physical lessons taught step by step by teachers i worked hard to get as much work completed as possible but i was still behind in credits when compared to my peers and from there my anxiety worsened then came my junior year when i told myself that i would try to start doing more to get out of my shell i was able to join theater while still being in the independent studies program and i enjoyed that very much being able to participate in an activity i used to love made me excited and happy it gave me a reason to look forward to going to school each day a reason to fight my anxiety i was trying my best but nothing turned out the way i'd planned i'd physically shake when performing unlike my other classmates and i would have to sit in one corner for three quarters overthinking my interactions with others my mental state would constantly fluctuate i could be really happy then anxious the next at just one word so when the pandemic started and everything shifted to virtual learning i had a new more difficult challenge in dealing with the change the social interactions that i hoped for wouldn't happen and i felt like i failed as a result i stayed in my room for a whole month and completely tuned everything out i even stopped using social media mentally i beat myself up for not attending school and i still couldn't bring myself to properly communicate my feelings to anyone i felt like i was spiraling downward until the 2020 school year ended and i ended up at gilbert high school it hurt me to have my family worry about me so i took summer break before senior year to build myself again to replenish my energy and replace all the negativity with better memories i returned to social media and reconnected with my friends and spent the rest of vacation bonding with my family before starting my senior year at gilbert i've only been at gilbert for this year and i've never once set foot in an actual campus in an actual classroom on campus but i can generally say that i'm proud to be able to graduate from here as cliche as it may seem if i didn't have the support of my friends family and teachers this year i would have been extremely lost throughout this year there were many more hardships in december my family contracted cover 19.

together we became the class of anomalies the class of grayed out webex boxes and cancelled events simply put we are the classic covid over the last four years we have conquered the unthinkable we fought for education in the red for ed movement we sat through four very long years of the joke of the day but most impressively we graduated in the middle of a pandemic a feat that none of us would have considered despite the struggles and challenges we've faced over the years we've all bonded through pigeon attacks and friendly games of dodging golf carts all of these moments both good and bad have made us who we are they've made us more powerful in our ambitions our actions and in our character most importantly it's given us the strength and discipline needed to move forward within my time at high school i've gained the ability to successfully procrastinate all of my work yet somehow turn it in with minimal error and while i say that proudly it does come with its drawbacks during that time procrastinating i could have done so much more and each time that i did that i regretted it time is an invaluable commodity that many of us take for granted every second you spend not trying to achieve your dreams is a second wasted those seconds turn into minutes and those minutes into hours and hours into days and after that life has passed you by so moving forward i urge you all to never waste an opportunity presented to you each day i want you to find the time to battle yourself take those lessons you've acquired and live life working towards your dreams so class of 2021 you've come this far but there's still so much for you to do i wish you all good luck into your endeavors and i have the upmost confidence that you can do anything you put your mind to thank you all for the wonderful four years and i can't see what you do next thank you all right so i'll just jump right in apologize in advance if my hat slides off fellow students esteemed faculty honored guests and parents among us my name is elliott hull and it is an honor and a privilege to stand before you today i was excited to learn that our graduation ceremony would be an in-person event at least until i found out i would have to speak in front of all of you and now i kind of wish it was online congratulations to my fellow students in the class of 2021.

we're even and right on track um year-to-date revenue is up but we're doing our monthly that can be a little bit misleading because we're making our transfer every month this uh this school year rather than in quarterly installments but overall budget expended expenditures um for this entire year we're 3.1 percent under um where we typically would kind of benchmark for our total appropriation so overall we're continuing to kind of make progress and uh all those adjustments are are helping with that so just wanted to bring that information to your attention thank you okay next item on the agenda is old business and we have no old business which brings us to new business and the first item in a new business is in a is an approval request for some resolutions do we do all these all at once or you read them off individually it's up to you how would you prefer i could summer i can give you the kind of the the lay down of what they are and you can vote on individually or all together it doesn't matter let's just do it all together okay so this hell is for the 32 million dollar building project and so the first resolution determining the need for the project this is something that's required by school leasing statute the board must determine that there's a need for the project the second one is the resolution reapproving the building corporation and so in order for this uh for the building corporation to not for profit indiana corporation to issue tax-exempt bonds the irs requires that the school board reapprove the building corporation and authorize it to issue tax-exempt bonds on behalf of the school corporation so one of the projects former ago we're just essentially realizing that building corporation and this is a board action to reapprove them the third item is the resolution of approving form of the second amendment to lease and the school corporation is funding this project through lease financing as it is done with other past construction renovation projects and lease financings are used by the school school corporations across indiana in order to borrow for renovation and construction this type of financing does not count against the school corporation's constitutional debt allowance the building is currently subject to a financing lease therefore we're amending that lease to take the lease rental due from the school corporation in exchange for the increased lease rental the building corporation will use the bond proceeds to make the need improvements to the building the increased lease rental as shown on the maximum amount and the second amendment to lease will be sufficient to pay the principal and interest due to the bondholders and then finally the last one is the resolution awarding construction bids and contracts to building building corporation once received the building corporation currently owns a portion of green castle high school and mcinally center the building corporation will also be the issuer of the bonds and the bond proceeds will be held by the trustee bank and will be used to pay the contractors for the work done on the building as a result the construction bids and contracts will need to be with the building corporation because the building corporation will hold the money to pay the contractors the school corporation receives the bids and or contracts and awards the bid center contracts under state law but then assigns those bids and or contracts to the building corporation so these are all all four of these resolutions are the next legal step uh in order to continue moving forward with the building project that that has been discussed and all these resolutions were in our board packet too i'm sure we ran through um does anyone have any questions for mr gibney about the resolutions no i think the first one says it all for the need for the project and there's clearly a need for the project so yeah we've been working on this since september october thank you i make a motion to approve the resolutions second okay we have a motion and a second to approve all four of the resolutions all in favor aye all opposed motion passes next item on the agenda is an approval request for track and or turf and track improvements yep so at this time uh mike do you want to introduce fred uh and so thank you mike so each of you have three pieces of paper that i set in front of you with uh mr gibney the first is a letter i'm going to go through the summary of that the second is a bid tabulation form or a quote form that summarizes numbers and then the last is the pretty pictures that's both front and back so that's the graphics of what uh what the facility itself would look like we do appreciate the opportunity to be with you tonight i'll speak briefly on the the project itself that takes certain any technical questions you may have so as part of the design and engineering of both the track replacement and then the turf project and this this particular case the track will be fully reconstructed the current conditions are pretty suspect um the track's been recoated and surfaced several times it's lived its useful life and it will come out so we'll build back from the stone aggregate that's there recompact and supplement that you'll have an entirely new track profile including all of the coatings and such it would go top that you'll also have a four foot perimeter fence will be added around the outside of that to complete that facility on the synthetic turf itself a middle again it'll be a synthetic system that's got both the drainage layers the subgrade as well as all the carpet if you will that goes atop that very well drained it'll take 16 inches an hour of water if you want to think about that for a moment it'll it'll drain very very well and in the course of doing that reconstruction of that facility we'll also be building new track and field events so think long jump high jump discus and shot so all of those facilities will be will be new so in summary the the quote tabulation form that again i mentioned to you we received quotes today um at noon today we invited four respondents to respond based upon a cooperative purchasing alliance so a direct purchase program three of those four respondents provided the numbers that you see i'll take just a second to explain the fourth respondent was field turf they have declined to pursue and we got a call from them today basically saying that the track codings companies were indicating to them they may not be able to hold the finish date so right now the substantial completion date for your turf project would be september 1 the track would follow a month later on october 1.

We got Chico on the box buying four. Game kind of moving. As Chico looks at Shark. This wind's brutal. I just know oh, I'm going to the Cape on Thursday. Oh. Hopefully it's nice out. I think it's supposed to rain this weekend. Are you guys not coming down? Huh? Do you guys go down for Memorial Day? No, we're having a cookout at my house I think. Oh yeah, you're big cookout season for the Sharons this year. Of course. Every weekend. Oh god. As Chico on the box. Oh. Pieces won the right field. The high school. Oh, it's CJ. Oh, he got tall. He is a D1 athlete. That's true. Big kicker. Big leg. Yeah. As Shorty sent me a text asking if I'm around at 11:00 tomorrow. Why can't he text me? I have to move boxes out of the pine hall, like all our hoodies and stuff.

i was really worried although i was struggling with school and stressing out about my future i wanted my family to know that everything would be okay my aunt and uncle who are second parents to me were sick with kovid in addition to that my mom was feeling even more sick she had been my dad's full-time caretaker for years so i worry that the virus virus would leave them bedridden despite the amount of stress from school i pulled it together to help in my own way i prepared washed and cut bowls of fruit for them to eat i would help them with getting small things they needed around the house since most of my family members were sick i also had to step in to help my sister take care of her baby balancing life at school work wasn't easy we couldn't celebrate the holidays together either as everyone had to self quarantine i felt the year was going to come to an end on a rather gloomy note that it got even worse on new year's my brother's birthday my dad suddenly passed away life seemed so unfair the very thing i dreaded since i became conscious that life was short happened i was so mad at myself for limiting my interactions with my dad over fear of losing him then he was gone and my world literally stopped abruptly i was forced to find a way to continue i logged back into my classes and acted the same way as before cheery giving my teachers my usual grading fooling myself into believing everything was okay it took me weeks to finally tell one of my teachers what happened on the vacation with all the support i received i was able to make it through and stand before you all and tell my story i am truly grateful to all the teachers and staff who have helped me throughout the year without your support i might not be here today delivering the speech i like to especially thank mr cowan for bringing light to my days with his unique teaching and youthful personality mrs mason for being understanding encouraging and willing to help when i needed it most mrs schofield for listening to my story and giving me resources that i could refer to and mr shane for checking in with me on a daily basis and making sure that everyone in class was given the support they needed all of you helped me in achieving my goal of graduating thank you most of all i'd like to thank my mom for staying strong despite how hard life has been thank you for giving me strength to keep going by setting an example as for papa i hope you hear this up in heaven your big baby is graduating now and although i'm scared and nervous about speaking today both of you are the reason i push myself and worked really hard i really want you both to see me graduate i hope you have a good view papa i love and miss you until we meet again to my graduating class of 2021 we can now officially say that we made it look at all of us with our blue caps and gowns on all of us who carry with us our own circumstances stories and burdens we all we made it and i'm so proud of us for getting here remember the lessons you learned along the way life will never be easy and there are bound to be many more bumps down the road this is just the beginning of our adulthood there may be times you feel alone but believe me you must continue to persist and keep going your future is important and no one will know what's best for you except you remember to use your past experiences as lessons to further improve yourself and don't let your insecurities or anxiety hold you back like it did to me learn to be kind to yourself about mistakes you make we need to make mistakes in order to develop and grow keep pushing yourself but also care for yourself like you do your friends and family and it's okay to be unsure of what you want to do in your future it's okay to learn at a sort of pace than others we all learn differently and baby steps are still improvement before i finish and we all go our separate ways i want to wish all of you good luck whether your plan is to go straight to college or university start working immediately or take some time to figure everything out we all got this congratulations again everyone and thank you for listening thank you janelle for all those who grew up chasing dreams and lost hope reaching for the stars for those who have felt the cold breeze hit the warm tears on your face for our friends and families who lifted us up and gave us strength to keep going for our teachers who enlightened us and gave us something to look forward to every day for the amazing and beautiful gilbert high school in the class of 2021 i give you this poem written by my fellow graduate guadalupe urutia every time i climb on a swing i close my eyes and dream the wildest dreams i dream of what life can be every time i swing on a swing the motion fills my heart with joy i take back the air as i soar higher and higher i kick my feet and open my eyes to the beauty of trees i look up to the sky and it seems that time can't pass me by for a second life freezes and i remember how it feels to be free my soul seems to lift with the wind and a peaceful hum fills me within every time i swing on a swing i close my eyes and dream my wildest dreams so i haven't left this district since 1968 so i've been around a while but that just to me proves what a great district this is you are you are now part of a really great family that's the way i feel about anaheim it gave me a phenomenal career and i think you will find it a super district to be in so uh now i'll move on to some of our um changes that we have some um we have amanda uh you have been now moved into the position of okay tell me i'm the director of the career preparedness systems framework implementation i know it's a mouthful but so very exciting at the same time um but you know good evening to all of you um president piercy board of trustees superintendent matt sudan cabinet um it is my honor to accept this appointment to the position of director of the career preparedness systems framework implementation for me um being the first in my family to attend college i've experienced firsthand the power of education to transform lives and communities so that's why i believe so deeply in the values and the priorities that we hold dear here in the median high school district for me to be a part of creating environments where students can find their purpose and voice through activities such as civic action service learning and career exploration is a very special charge to be a part of so i very deeply would like to thank all of you for your confidence and trust in me to lead such an important initiative for the district i would like to thank cabinet and site leaders um that i've worked with throughout my career for the opportunities i've been provided to develop as a leader um i would personally like to thank mr manuel colon who is with oliver the leader a lead counselor at savannah high school um and while your encouragement has helped helps me make the jump into administration from counseling and i just want to thank you all for advocating for me encouraging me and helping me grow throughout my career here in anaheim i also just administrator for career education to coordinator of 21st century career readiness and happy to join amanda on that journey of implementation around the career preparedness systems framework and um i was just kind of reflecting today on you know i've been with au hsd um in just over 15 years and when i started in 2005 um superintendent matsuda's voice was one of the first voices that i heard as a new teacher he was running the beginning teacher support you know the bits of program that educators are familiar with and right from the start he helped me and all the other new teachers and the existing teachers in the district really focus on authentic learning for students and and what the metrics and test scores and things take care of themselves but really focus on authentic learning and i i think our our district's focus on career readiness and um thinking about um student voice and purpose and and those pieces is so critical to that so you know just five years in the current position have really enjoyed working on um some great projects the aim program our exclusive pathways um all focused on that that authentic learning that that um you know i picked up from mike's vision um early on so just humbled to be working with the ed division over the last five years just an amazing group of uh of professionals and uh always humbled to be part of that group and um i just i don't want to thank superintendent matsuda mike for just being that guiding voice for so many of us um it's it's made such a difference in the lives of students and we see it and uh and we know that's just going to continue on into the future but uh thanks for your trust and faith in me in the in this position and i really appreciate and look forward to getting to work okay very good congratulations and on to charles coop all right well um thank you um those are all great speeches but i um so yeah thank you to all the board members uh superintendent matsuda mr uh free mr colon ms nien thank you everyone um i'm definitely honored um and humbled really by this by this position i'm an accepting of it um i definitely want to take this opportunity to use my knowledge and experience to help our students and community learn and reflect on their data um you know data really just kind of tells a story and i want to tell the story of anaheim and it's i think it's a story of hope um it's a story of perseverance um and especially through this pandemic that we've been going through um i'm pretty hopeful and confident through our collaboration with all the aps working with my new team um we'll be a lot more conscious uh of how to use that data to improve the lives of our students and families um integrating that with our five c's integrating with all the forward thinking programs that we're going through already in hanoi um to make it kind of worthwhile um you know wonderful experience for our students and community i really look forward to looking forward to this graduation actually i'll take this off too is an impressive accomplishment uh one that will be important for the rest of our lives moreover we graduated under some very unique circumstances starting with the longest spring break in history during our junior year we worked through shifting pandemic guidelines cancelled act and sat dates shortened or cancelled sports seasons supply shortages internet outages and of course the dreaded end role phobia or the fear of running out of toilet paper despite those unprecedented hurdles we persevered our teachers and coaches endeavored to teach us how to deal with problems especially those that are unexpected life will provide challenges for us to face and how we deal with those challenges will provide opportunities opportunities to overcome the obstacles and emerge a better person on the other side while i would like to tell you that we have already faced the greatest challenge of our lifetimes that is probably not the case i'm right here with you about to head off into a world that looks and feels different than the one i knew just 14 months ago i'm a little anxious but i am not afraid we have all been given the gift of a world-class education at thunderbird high school our teachers have endeavored to work tirelessly to help each of us succeed no matter the circumstances we are all well prepared for whatever life throws at us next i wish each of you all the success that this life has to offer thank you [Applause] i'm only allowed two minutes for this so as mr baker would say seat belts and hard hats everyone it's rush day monday first of all on behalf of the class of thank you to the students teachers parents and administrators who have contributed to our high school journey as we look forward to the next chapter of our lives we also reflect on the past four years and what we will take with us class of the world needs us to step up and be humble leaders who are willing to learn from others thunderbird high school thank you for preparing us well to take on this challenge roger bannister was the first person to run a mile in under four minutes a feat that experts once believed was physiologically impossible in order to do this he sought the help of his friends who were sprinters one of them paced him for the first half of the race and the other took over for the rest of it those sprinters challenged him to think and train differently than he had in the past allowing him to run faster than he or anyone else ever had god created us to be in community with and learn from each other just as roger bannister did google also found this to be true in google set out to study what makes the perfect team they researched various teams within the company and looked at factors including interests educational backgrounds gender balance and many others but they found no patterns with any of these instead the largest determinant of the success of a team was how well the members listen to each other so class of 2021 as we continue our journey beyond high school let's seek out the sprinters in our lives those who have different cultural backgrounds experiences and interests let's listen to the people around us who have different ideas and world views when we are open to insight from others we gain a new perspective of ourselves and the world around us let's take advantage of the endless opportunities we are given each day to broaden our world views by really listening to the people we interact with thank you graduating class of 2021 congratulations today is the culmination of years of prepa preparation the realization of a job well done and anticipation of what lies ahead today you can allow yourself a moment of satisfaction and take time to honor and thank the family and friends who have supported you along the way the people here today who have shared in the journey and celebrate with you in the success it seems like every conversation we have these days involves this pandemic it is true you have persevered during a challenging time however this time does not define you it does not diminish any of your accomplishments with that being said it does not give you an excuse for not striving to achieve your goals or to realize your dreams the class of 21 has risen to the challenge your lives and your careers will present many unexpected obstacles in the future i trust that what you have learned from your teachers your coaches and your peers has equipped you with the skills and tools necessary to overcome those inevitable challenges in life looking back over this school year there are numerous instances of success for us to celebrate here are a few highlights this year's student achievement above all recipient was ellie saint claire in they did not want to be at risk for any liquidated damages or delays if their track coding sub-consultants did not fault their follow-through so they have simply respectfully declined to pursue so with those particular quotes i'll start with saying that the the coaches and the administration was very actively involved in all of the details of what you'll you'll receive so the base project is the track and turf that i mentioned uh base project was a monofilament and we'll get into the details of the turf but it comes with the shock pad as well as that surfacing and the shock pad is intended to be for concussion protocol to mitigate any risk that would happen with the students making direct contact with the ground so that shock pad was a was a mandatory part of that base quote so that's inside of that and then there were four alternate quotes that were asked for in that response i'll go through those very very briefly the first was an extended warranty industry standards eight years we've asked for a two year extension for a total of 10 years i'll come back to that in a moment the second alternate quote was for dual fiber which is a blend of multiple fiber types that add both longevity as well as texture to create good ball roll for soccer if any of you are familiar with synthetic fields you know that the ball rolls really really quickly so we want to mitigate that particular issue third is an enhanced shock pad i mentioned to you that i come back to the first one the shock pad they have both kind of like a small medium and large or good better best and we have an entry level shock pad that you have an opportunity to upgrade for a relatively limited cost the reason that is important i just mentioned a 10 year warranty on the the carpet itself the shock pad has a 20 year warranty so that shock pad will be underneath your football field for two life cycles of carpet so we want to make sure that we're making a good decision about the kinds of investment we make because it needs to be just as effective 20 years from today as it is in this particular request and then lastly bonding so performance and payment bonding are a typical part of a traditional construction bid and this opportunity with a quote we've gone through that purchasing alliance and added those as an enhancement again i will take technical questions that you have around that but it's suffice it to say our recommendation working with the kramer team and krm is to take all four of those alternates if the budget will allow and you're so inclined to consider that i think lastly just very quickly i'm benchmarking this project i'm get very competitive quotes um there certainly is a small premium it'll be no surprise to any of you that uh construction prices and labor costs are skyrocketing and have been for the last five or six months um we do see about a 10 to 12 percent premium and this number past what we were seeing bid in fall that is far less than honestly i think i would have predicted um that premium is pretty mitigated we did see aggressive quotes and that as i mentioned before and i think the the spread you'll see is really tight so having three numbers that close together i think is really indicative of how hard folks were pursuing being the constructor of your facility and lastly from from my vantage point just in what you might consider doing as a board i think all three of these responses again are very very good i'm not sure that you could make a bad decision and i think one of the things we should take a moment to understand is in a quote process with the cooperative purchasing alliance you're not obligated to take the low number we need to work as a team both on this side of the fence and and with you all to come up with the best value so thinking about reliability the hitting deadlines the sale after the service so it's not just the lowest number that is necessarily the best best bid so with that in mind we've done a lot of analysis on the bids received we've worked with every single one of these respondents multiple times from my vantage point the recommendation that i would make to all of you is the moats group has been the most reliable in all facets of construction service after the sale and in warranty and repairs that need to be done over the period of the life of that carpet again i don't think you'll make a bad decision but if it were again a recommendation solely from my vantage point in my experiences i would i would strongly encourage the most group happy to take any questions the group man random quote a question on alternate quote number two for the dual fiber i noticed a couple of them are negative that's a great question so dual fiber is typically a little more expensive than the monofilament that we had in our base quote and what's happened over the last few years is dual fiber has become such a predominant market share in the turf industry that the bidders said to us look we would have to literally stop the loom retool it to run monofilament and we're so busy and we have so many projects right now the cost may actually be higher to slow that loom down and create a new system or create a new uh run of the monofilament so we had a little bit of a heads up they called on friday and said hey this may look a little backward but the reality is is the the market's busy so i'll add i i called around to uh athletic directors i know and spoke with some superintendents and uh there there definitely is a premium sometimes to to go with the best in order to make sure that they stay on schedule and they're hit they're hitting all of their deadlines and again i would echo why they're all good vendors um the feedback i got was by in a far far and away the moats group was better at hitting all those deadlines they were organized they were detail-oriented and were able to complete the proc process without without hiccups so my recommendation would be to select the modes group to move forward with the project and this is lack of my knowledge i apologize are these little falls on the turf how's the turf constructed i just thought yeah so the turf is is three layers there's a there's a drainage media so aggregate that's larger stone that perks water there's a what's called a choker layer a very thin layer a very fine stone that makes that field billiard top smooth literally laser graded smooth and then the carpet sits right atop the shock pad the shock pad will lay right on that that's fine stone carpet lays right atop that it's pulled taut and nailed to a concrete curve that will go around that basically the inside of lane one we set both of those as part of the project because all the warranties pretty much uh similar to you know what uh each one of yeah terrific question so we did actually make some phone calls today to make sure that there was parity within each of the the warranties from the manufacturers and we do have confirmation that that is the case um one interesting thing about the warranty so that that 10-year warranty or eight year if you don't choose that particular option that is that is good for every day of the year all year long so if there is a tear if there's a defect within that system the respondent needs to come back out and make that repair for you and i say that because you're not on the hook to do it in year two or six or nine the warranty is baked into that quote so they'll take care of that facility for the life of the facility thank you there's there's really not that much difference i mean in the big scheme so i guess if mike you're looking for a motion i would do the mults group with uh all four additions to it would be my motion to accept that one yeah i would second that okay we have a motion and a second to accept the modes groups bid any further questions comments okay are you not all in favor aye aye all opposed motion passes thank you and thanks to you all for your help as well thank you fred so we need something else on this or no okay okay next item on the agenda is an approval request for the 2021-2022 textbook rental and student fees yep so thank you thank you thank you um as is customary this time here it's time to adopt and approve textbook rental and student fees for next year i'd like to thank dr french for working with the building administrators to try to pare down some of our student fees and some of her costs for some of her courses that's one of our goals is to continue to kind of drop our textbook rental charges for our families especially if you have more than one child it can get pretty expensive so we're actually using some of our federal stimulus dollars to kind of help support that effort and we're going to pick up some of those costs so it doesn't cost our parents and families so much money so a copy of those for approval are in your board packet and it's my recommendation that the board approves as presented i'll make a motion to approve it okay we have a motion in a second to approve the um textbook rental and student fees any discussion or questions the only question i have is i think it's great that we're using some of those uh kova dollars or uh to pay for some of this which i think is great but does that mean that next year they're gonna see like two years worth of a jump and a cost continuously go on now we're going to we're going to continue to do what we can to keep them even or drop them a big portion of the textbook rental student fees is the technology fee and so there are things that we can do differently next time with still getting a good device um looking at some different structures um to spread that over a longer period of time to help assist sounds great okay um all in favor aye all opposed motion passes next item on the agenda is an approval request for the 2021-22 preschool program which includes additional classrooms and tuition yeah so this is one i'm probably most excited about access to high quality preschool can make such a huge difference in students development and by bringing them in as you know preschoolers and then going on to kindergarten they're already that much further ahead and so we are adding on to our preschool adding on basically an additional peer classroom more of a community preschool classroom type and so we have 20 spots in the am and 20 spots in the pm and we are essentially obviously we have to charge tuition for that and we're going to use the tuition to pay for the extra staffing and so we're hiring a non-licensed teacher full-time and an ia to work within that classroom but to also still work closely with mrs seeger and mrs schimp and we are able to do that beginning next school year so we're seeking approval so we can get continue to get the information out mrs sullivan has a wait list and the second piece of that is we are seeking to increase the tuition from nine dollars a day to ten dollars a day for next school year because again our we want to cover our costs and mrs sullivan it is 10 correct okay i just wanted to confirm that i had another amount in my mind um but so we're just seeking board approval on both of those items so we can continue to get the good word out and expand our preschool program sounds good to me ten dollars a day seems pretty good yes yeah i make a motion to be approved a second okay we have a motion in a second to approve the preschool program any further discussion questions okay hearing none all in favor aye all opposed motion passes next item on the agenda is an approval request for some 2000 or a couple of 2021 summer programs the band summer band program the summer meal program mr goodman yep so just seeking a approval uh to offer the summer summer band again um as has has it's been handled in the past and then um the federal government obviously extended free meals for children and so we are seeking to continue to operate those programs out of the same buildings that we have in the past again just providing our families another service and and feeding those who are participating in summer school and also feeding those who might not join summer school it's a great program okay can i get a motion to approve a second okay i have a motion in a second to approve the 2021 summer programs all in favor aye all opposed motion passes next is an approval request for the second reading of some updated job descriptions central office technology and transportation mr gibney yep so those items were presented to you at last month for first reading and this is a second reading and adoption for those job placement categories i make a motion to approve the second reading of the job descriptions yeah i'll second that okay with a motion in a second any discussion hearing none all in favor all opposed motion passes next on the agenda is an approval request for a memorandum of understanding between gcse and the gcta the teachers association on a stipend for extra duties caused by the covet pandemic yep yeah so for this memorandum of understanding and then the the next uh action item the resolution um we're we submitted our sr2 um application the doe and it was approved um today and so we're seeking to essentially utilize some of these funds to compensate our teachers administrators and our non-certified staff for duties above and beyond the normal normal workload and so what that amounts to is a 1250 stipend for our certified staff members and administrators and a 750 dollar stipend for our non-certified staff um and so it's my recommendation um that the board approved the mo you as presented yeah make a motion to improve you know when will this be paid out mr gibney this will be paid out in june so we're working on a june payroll okay great um okay can i get a motion will i have a motion can i get a second to approve the memorandum of understanding for the stipend for a second okay i have a motion in a second all in favor opposed motion passes next is the other half of that an approval request for a resolution to provide an employee stipend for certain extra duties caused by the covid 19 pandemic basically we just approved the memorandum we have to yes they're two separate documents so two separate approvals yep but the same stipulations right the first one was for for the teachers this one's for the non-certified staff and administrators okay can i get the most to approve that with this resolution it's almost a second okay i have a motion in a second any discussion okay hearing none all in favor hi hi motion passes next item on the agenda is an approval request for looks like six donations we can approve all together first is from dave's heating and cooling to green castle high school athletics in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars the next is putnam county community foundation to greencastle high school in the amount of 678.38 third donation is from the jack and shirley dalton trust to tazonicus intermediate in the amount of two thousand five hundred dollars the next donation is from the mary allison children's trust to rid path primary in the amount of 800 or 987.80 the next donation is from putnam county soil and water conservation district to the 21st cclc in the amount of two thousand dollars and the last is putnam county community foundation to the 21st cclc in the amount of 2500.

anaheim union high school district board of trustees and cabinet for the opportunity to recognize our graduating seniors i would also like to take a moment to recognize the parents of our graduating class who have supported and advocated for their students over the course of the past four years and especially this last leg of their journey as they have navigated virtual learning thank you i would also like to take just a moment to recognize the men and women in black on the field who are our faculty and staff who are here supporting our students and have been supporting them throughout the course of this year we also have additional staff who have been supporting with the logistics prior to and will be continuing to support after today's graduation and we thank them as well as i prepared for the ceremony there were so many thoughts that i wanted to express however yesterday after rehearsal after having an opportunity to preview the speeches you all just heard i had to rethink what i wanted to say because quite honestly our student speakers have done such an excellent job of expressing the sentiments of all of our graduates so well so thank you because of that my comments will be very brief i am pretty sure that when our students started out their freshman year of high school no one could have imagined that your senior year would look like this as each of you began with excitement and curiosity you knew that your senior year would be nothing but the best throughout your four years of high school you have been taught how to communicate collaborate think critically demonstrate character and compassion and how to be creative over the course of the past four years you have used those skills but this past year those skills were put to the test you are the class that has navigated your entire senior year through virtual sessions and online tutorials you have learned to communicate in ways you never thought you would be asked to before to navigate learning platforms and schoology pages to complete your work you've taught yourself to advocate and i hope and i know that your staff here today has encouraged you as you've done so you not only overcame these unexpected changes you mastered them and what we must acknowledge and we all recognize that there has been losses of experience throughout this pandemic you have taken those challenges and turned them to success during the past year we have all been reminded of what truly matters and how to cherish the little things you are the class that never let challenges great or small stand in your way and you have continued to move forward and conquered the goals you've set for yourself booker t washington once said success is not to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome each of you have a story and this year you have added new pages and new chapters you have overcome many obstacles and you have succeeded i speak on behalf of our entire faculty and staff to say we have been privileged and honored to work with you throughout either this year or the past two years we have enjoyed hearing your stories seeing your successes helping you get up when things were challenging and witnessing your resilience we could not be more proud of the way you have responded to the situation and that we are able to celebrate with you today someone once said always remember that your present situation is not your final destination and the best is yet to come congratulations class of 21 2021 you did it graduates since day one and i am proud to say that this class came into high school with no fear this class has demonstrated their resilience by how they have adapted to change for example as freshmen we got an extra spring break where we could support our teachers in our own education and on that very first day back we were blindsided by state testing or sophomore year when we lost our very own mr clements we not only adapted to that change but were able to make him remembered on this campus then into our junior year where things got wild we were finally living what i like to call our best live and then out of nowhere a global pandemic hit taking away time with the class before us our first prom and so many school trips that we had worked so hard for but instead of hanging our heads we bounce back ready to see his senior year after what felt like the longest summer ever finally we got to senior year in our senior year we dealt with so much loss and the term it is what it is became so common but nothing would compare to the loss of our very own abby barnett abby could make everyone smile and always believe that there was good in this world so instead of falling in with the rest of the world quitting and putting our heads down we took a page out of abby's book we kept our heads up we smiled and we moved forward i guess you could say that we just kept swimming but we did not just keep swimming we learn from our surroundings we focus on what was important and how we could make the most out of a bad situation this class has had astonishing focus so much so that this focus has led to 62 students graduating with the honors diploma over nine million dollars raised in scholarships over a four year span and we will be sending athletes to play collegiate sports you see focus was necessary to graduate with this class not only this year but in your full four year experience lastly this class has broken ceilings and climb for new heights that nobody thought imaginable this class has not stopped for anything or let anyone get in the way of what they want to do this class has gone toe-to-toe with a global pandemic that was life-altering for all and they have come out the victor this class is going places and nothing i repeat nothing will get in the way of that lastly i want to leave you with one thing is a quote that came to me from a mentor of mine by the name of tommy tran he once said we are here for a good time and not a long time but he would follow this up by saying that life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond i challenge you class of twenty twenty one to live life with no regrets so when that final bell of life rings you can walk away full i want to encourage you when that 10 percent of life gets really hard that the 90 percent that you can control maintains and stays positive but most of all i want you to remember the people in this room around you because when life gets dark and the world gets too hard and there seems to be too much hurt you can always turn back to your friends your family your teachers and as always i am a phone call away i thank you class of 2021 for the privilege to represent you these last four years i wish you the best of luck in life and wherever your next steps may take you for the last time my name is james lee and it has been my greatest honor to be your student body president and graduate alongside you thank you during the recessional we ask that all guests remain in their seats at the conclusion of the recessional guests should exit the facility using the doors located on the I'll do it. That would be space worms. Felice is now up in the count look for some of that to drive here. Space worm. This lineup is just like people I do not know. I know. Last time he's talking about three out pitch though. Popped up to right. Hopefully he doesn't do that this time. He takes ball four. I mean it's probably not a bad idea to walk him. Yeah, this pitcher is scared of him. I'm scared of him sitting right here. All right, this is what the Spartans need some base runners. Mr. A No outs. And A Kobe I think he's an all star. Waving at the crowd. But he won't wave at me. I'm not mad. I'm mad. Hostility. Jacob Basharat gets in the box. All they need is a little blooper or a hard ground ball. Hit a gap. I just totally forgot I saw Izzy and Falvo at the gym this morning.

Totally just went over my head. All right, Basharat. He got a base hit last time. He might be getting tired. He hasn't thrown a strike in a while. I I he's just trying to be a little picky. But Bashar will get somebody get something down the middle. He's a big extra base hit guy as cut off and a pick off. That was a good throw. Could have went out. There's not loud. It's really annoying. You got to get in the pitcher's head. They might as well just be sitting down on the bench. It's what like like when you're on the bench. Oh. Oh, go. Oh no, you would have got tossed. What vaccine did you get? Pfizer. Hopefully I don't feel like like I did the first time. third one and I was fine. Really? I just hope I I don't feel too bad. Nope.

I'm fully vaccinated, so May 29th. Oh. It's a day to get rowdy. I'll be once work starts. Just don't want to get sick from these little kids. Nice. Oh, wow, he's rowdy after that. Bases loaded, no outs. This is what they need. All right. Kobe up. We need him to do something here. Does he have tape on his ears? Um on his helmet it looks like it. I guess it's where it all started. Love you, Ham. Oh, Ham's getting pulled. We'll go to the gym sometime, kid. This kid with the eye black is looking at me. Oh, Briske. Welcome back. Bases are juiced and Kholvia looking to get some more runs on the board as score is still six to one. Let's see what he looks at. Wow, this kid throws gas compared to the other kid. They just keep pitching him outside. Hopefully he doesn't try to pull this one.

Just try to take it to opposite field. Oh, he had that one. pull it again. He's not a pull hitter. Come on, just push it to the left, right over the third baseman's head. Like dude, look how much room he has down the left field line. So much room. It's one. Oh, same pitch they got him on last time. He's so fast. One, two, three pitches. Uh Coach Sprague has got to just like tell him to go the opposite field. Just try skipping 10 steps in the box. I wonder I wonder if he's related to the skipping tent. Like Liam? What's What's his name? Liam skipping tent, yeah. That guy was a clown. I remember being my camp counselor. I think that my cousin dated with him. Oops, sorry. That's K gets a knock. Oh, that'll be one. That'll be one six, two. Chip away, chip away.

Chip away, baby. That's staying in the box. That's Cheeky's getting rowdy. I like that. It's what the bench guys are for. It's an art. Like, it's an art to play the bench. But, they want to get out of the time. Good eye. Hey, Stein. That was a ball that first pitch, right? Yep. Two all, two all. Two all pitch on its way. Oh. A little high. Oh, high well outside, but he's fine. He's good. He'll get angry if he strikes out. No. Count 3-1. Ball four. Oh. That was down the middle. I don't know if that was down the middle. Come on. I'll be kind of upset if he strikes out. His knees are like inward. There it is. All right, you don't have to run home. have to run home. Sparns chipping it in. 63 is Mike Monahan fumbles the elbow guard. Mike got bigger, man.

I hate that I know like a lot of I thought you said you didn't know any of them. What? Braden Doll back. Kevin McLaughlin getting rowdy in the background. There you go. the freshman can do something big. Come on, Rosh. Oh wait, is he a sophomore now? I'm trying to think. I think he might be. Freshman or sophomore, whatever it is. A young'un. Go. Go. Make it. You didn't have You can Down. Oh, go. There it is. Nice job. Spartans score two. Force the out. 6-5. Oh, wow. That's the routingness I was looking for. Yeah. There's a little excitement. Maybe they needed that in the beginning. Aw, I was going to ask Kyle what the score was, but now he's batting. As KB looks at a ball. As Max is important that he does look like his brother. A lot. But it kind of stinks for him.
