Meg Sharon and Brandon McLaughlin here to bring you the action once it comes. All right, welcome back to the bottom of the seventh here. We got little Bergs up to the plate, Kyle. I mean, game's been somewhat entertaining a little bit towards the end. It's definitely better than it was before. As Kyle probably looking at a first pitch strike. Oh, or not. It was high. I'd love to be a professional commentator. Huh? I would love to be a professional commentator. Is that what you're going to school for? No. No. No, no. I'm like in law school now. What? Yeah. You're going to become a lawyer? Yeah, I just want to make money. Isn't that everyone's goal? Lawyer and finance. It'd be great. I'm going to make a lot of money when I become a teacher. Heads up. Oh, it's so so someone got hit right in the shoe.

Nice shoes. when people look around like someone meant to hit the ball at them. They're like New. New. Miss it. Miss it. Oh, easy out. One down in the inning. Braden's jersey is so bad on him. Hopefully he has a little growth spurt soon. I mean, he's not short. Just not tall either. Well, Devin isn't very tall either. Devin's a nice 5'8. This Johnny Tarantino at the plate. See, I'd love that ditch. I know. I would have swung at that. I'd take that right up the middle. Unless DeFranco is telling you to do a take, then then I can respect that. He's not swinging at this one, though. That was a really good pitch. No. They see base runners doing anything special. No. Good eye. Good eye. Good eye. They don't have very many big kids that seem like they could hit the ball over the fence.

Except for Mr. Sam. Other than two's over here. Oh. Oh, get down on one. Ooh, that was a good piece. Exactly. Just go the other way. That's all you have to do. Go opposite field with that pitch. to hit every time. and pull it. Forgot I forgot it's the live stream, so people are like watching us like talk right now. That's crazy. Yeah, that's what a regular commentator does. Don't get me wrong. And I see Pieces on the second. He's going to hustle it out and two down in the seventh. It's where Chico lives. Just got to get on base. Is his Is his name Chico or is it something else? It seems Ryan. Oh. It's just crazy to think when we won mercy mass, he was the ninth hitter. Was he a freshman then? No, he's a sophomore. Sophomore. Forgot that you guys won that.

So, he was the ninth batter. That's crazy. What is he now? He's three. Three. That might be an out. No, it's out of play. Might kill somebody though. No, the wind's blowing in. Which I'd love to get one of these things when the wind's blowing out. Especially if I forgot which ball he hit to right field, but that ball would have been gone if the ball the wind would have blown out. Chico looking for something. Uh Looks like that's going to Uh Oh. I thought that was going to hit the gap. Uh That was cool. Throwing his helmet. Well, final score here for the Spartans, 7-5 as they drop to 1 and 4. Uh Meg wasn't very uh the Spartans tried to claw back into it. They were down 6-1 at one point. Um but they did lose. back. What was the So, that's your ball game.

It's been a pleasure. It's been I don't know. It's just the Spartans need to figure something out, which I'm positive they will. They got a great coaching staff here. But it's been Meg Sharon and Brian McLaughlin. Hope you guys have a good night and uh rest of your week. Thank you. Thank you.

this unexpected truly eventful year despite the circumstances presented to us we made the most of it and pushed through the predicaments and uncertainties the last time we faced each other we were juniors with high hopes of coming together and spending our final year of high school to the fullest unfortunately it did not go as we had hoped however we've had room for growth and time to connect with oneself before moving on to the next chapter of our lives i have known so many of you since before savannah and it's crazy to reminisce on all the events we've had whether they were positive or negative we pushed ourselves to accomplish a huge milestone in our life and it's why we're gathered here today despite it possibly being the last time we're all together and not having the senior year we've longed for i hope you all the best with your future experiences through our personal and academic struggles and achievements we finally made it and are able to say we are done with high school it's almost bittersweet to think about everything we have each gone through one by one to get to this very moment whether it be doubt or lack of motivation we persisted with our studies and not only am i proud of all of us for achieving this i am so thankful for the teachers and staff as well as our parents who have not forgotten about us and were able to make this possible whether your next step is college work or whatever your heart desires i hope you know you are supported and loved by the members of savannah both future and current teachers and staff thank you for guiding us in the right two different places starting from my country the place that i was born in into the state of illinois then here to california so let me ask you one question could you imagine how hard it is to move moving is not just a bag that you take with you or a flight ticket moving is one of the biggest challenges that you may face on life changing in people friends schools weather and many things that you that you keep inside your soul as i look back into my life i see my old self how i was a completely different person three things i learned through these four years and let me make it as advice for you and for everyone who feels lost three things three pieces of advice challenge love and learn we all got through this hard time with this pandemic we all changed and learned and have the courage to move on right now i'm glad that i'm here with you guys all safe and happy and now i'll let you guys ask yourself about what is the most important thing for you in this life for me it's love because it's the thing it is the only thing it's easy to hate it's easy to fear it's hard to love it's not optional it's essential it's life or death so i challenge you to love each other every second every minute and every day and please please be around when other people need someone to lean on [Music] the human stays learning until the end of his life so don't waste your time and learn as much as you can learn and learn and learn because learning is the only thing that no one could take it from you so challenge love and learn thank you [Applause] and now i would like to introduce our final senior speaker jocelyn hernandez jocelyn will be attending vinegar university in the fall majoring in nursing upon completion of her degree she would like to become a patriotic nurse practitioner it is my pleasure to introduce our final speaker today jocelyn hernandez thank you farah we have all been waiting for this day we counted months weeks days hours and now we are here we did it congratulations to the class of 2021 now withstanding the obstacles we have had to face we are here and that just shows how resilient we are with no doubt the class of 2021 is strong and filled with courageous individuals you know it's fascinating to see how much we've changed throughout our four years here at savannah high school i remember getting lost plenty of times trying to find my class i remember the seniors walking past the quad wow they were pretty tall i remember how shy i was to even ask a question in class and now here i am today i am proud to say that i am a senior maybe not as tall as those who i saw when i was a freshman but i am a senior we're all seniors and we should all be proud of how far we've come this is just the beginning of our future for many of us we are extremely excited to move on to the next chapter of our lives some of us don't know what comes next but what we do know is that we need to go out there and keep being who we are no matter how amazing or unfortunate these past four years have been for us what is important to know is that you can't go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are now and change the ending bienvenidos personas is [Music] i would now like to introduce our principal mr pulley [Applause] thank you denise farah jocelyn for those kind words and encouragement for the class of 2021 savannah high school is an amazing place it's one of a kind school because of our committed and caring teachers and staff members at this time i'd like to recognize acknowledge the savannah faculty and staff for their dedication preparing these students the last four years [Applause] the class of 2021 is a special class to me i've seen them grow and flourish since our days over at brookhurst junior high you have all had an incredible ride to get to this point and i could not be more proud of you than i am today you've had to navigate through many challenges high school that many have not faced prior to you even though we did not interact like we used to do i was able to witness your kindness and compassion for one another your families and for our school community it was evident in your capstone interviews you all gave a few weeks back you have grown in many ways and you are ready for the world more important is the fact that this group of seniors has demonstrated why they're in a league of their own when it comes to accomplishments they have certainly become personally and academically accountable as evidenced by the number of students receiving academic honors 93 20 more than last year congratulations they have displayed good sportsmanship as well during their competitions they have shown how to be globally aware and culturally competent and engaged in their community as civic minded citizens this class helped savannah earn the civic learning award of excellence last year and we are tremendously thankful students as you reflect on your four years at savannah high school one thing is clear you have grown in your knowledge and skills and this growth has set you apart during your years of high school you have been challenged and you might have struggled at times but with this struggle came the opportunity to learn from one another from your colleagues from your teachers and from those that care most about you what you learned was how to persevere how to persist and to ultimately how to succeed again i want to remind you all that you are ready for college career and life and we know you will go on to do great things in the community nation world congratulations class of 2021 we have now approached what we have been waiting for presenting diplomas to our graduates will be board of trustees member miss anne marie trejo and board of trustees member mr al jabbar attending the class of 2021's graduation i hope you are all doing well and thank you for believing in us we made it everyone i remember hearing the phrase these four years go by extremely fast so enjoy looking back life has challenged us to its fullest extent limiting us to remote learning pushing us through the toughest college admissions cycle but yet we persevered through it all graduation was supposed to be a time when we see smiles on each other's faces but as i look around me face masks cover our faces however through it all we still manage to find happiness the class of 2021 has remained transparent and witnessed life's beauty we started our high school journey enjoying a total solar eclipse and now we ended up dwelling upon a pandemic although i can't claim to personally know everyone in this audience i don't deny the bonds that we've all created we've hurtled through obstacles accepted challenges and managed to become a class that remains connected through all of our struggles loira has been an extremely inclusive experience constantly providing us the opportunity to create new memories and most importantly funding our education i know that we all woke up one day and thought to ourselves i don't want to go to school but as we look back now we wish to relive those days that made us the happiest we all have many regrets that carry us through life and as our next stage of life inches closer remember to continue to build upon yourself and don't reflect on past mistakes but use it as new found motivation we shifted from little freshmen to mature young adults as life continues whether you remain local enlist in the service or attend a university stay consistent with your character and continue to be optimistic about the future the world is unfair as we've seen recently and will push you to a breaking point in which you will be seeking for your answers stand your own and push through the obstacles and remember that you are the person that controls your narrative shape yourself to the character that pushed you through this unusual year and remember that experience is the greatest teacher i personally believe that everything happens for a reason and there will always be crossroads in our decisions but in the end the best things will always come through our worst moments when this graduation comes to an end there's one thing i'd love to point about this group our generation becomes increasingly aware of the issues that revolve around us and i believe our class can become the epitome of change stand up for what you believe is wrong push through barriers that hold you back from your full potential and stick to a foundation that gave you meaning throughout your high school years live life in the moment and enjoy the blessings that we received as students take a look at your invitees and thank them for remaining loyal with you through it all continue to surround yourself with the people who love you the most and remember once a saxon always a saxon [Applause] and now please welcome to the podium my fellow classmate serenity salazar [Applause] it is to my pleasure to welcome students families and faculty to one of the most important days we all dreamed of after watching high school musical of course this year wasn't exactly what we all thought it was going to be but we all made the best of it and now look at us six feet apart max on in a football stadium graduating wow what a year on behalf of the students here at lawera i want to give a special thanks to all the staff who overcame every obstacle thrown at them from connection issues to cameras and mics not working am i right joseph this school year has definitely been one for the books we all had to adapt to a whole new concept of life and make what we thought was only a week off of school a whole new reality although we struggled at times it definitely helped each and every one of us find better versions of ourselves and i think that's one of the greatest lessons we could all learn on a real note i can confidently say the class of 2021 is able to overcome anything and everything even if you don't know what you're going to do after high school go out there be confident find what makes you happy and pursue it as harriet tubman once said every great dream begins with the dreamer always remember you have within you the strength patience and passion to reach for the stars to change the world we've all made it through so much this year don't quit now this is just the beginning of something amazing i send you all nothing but the best of luck and are your future endeavor saxons i'm serenity saying goodbye for now [Applause] now please welcome to the podium lawera high school principal mr jack jensen [Applause] i'd like to take a quick moment the grounds of oxford academy no it was not in math or science class but at seventh grade orientation the how to survive oxford guide from explaining how to tackle rigorous course loads to modeling how to balance extracurricular activities i thought the presenters covered everything but little did i know that one topic was missing from orientation how to confront a global pandemic i do not believe that any of us ever imagined that a virus like covet 19 would spread across the world and put us in the situation we find ourselves in today yet amidst the devastation our nation has experienced i have been equally overwhelmed with joy comfort and pride upon seeing the responses by oxford academy patriots specifically our class of 2021.

i am courtney fritz principal it is my honor to welcome you here honestly we all feel inspired to have you many of you here in person joining us this evening i know that's not the same it's not our normal graduation and there's a lot of people joining online via live stream and we wish that we could all gather and have everyone here but again we are inspired and thrilled that some of you are here this evening i also want to recognize our agency administrators our honored dignitaries in this room this evening superintendent annette reichmann and assistant superintendent dr kristen rex also know that several asdb board members are joining us via online watching from afar as well thank you for joining us like i mentioned this year is different as we know covid19 impacted your senior year it impacted what you envisioned to be what you've been shooting for since kindergarten disappointments mixed emotions are normal to have but it did not impact your success your success is still here and it's normal you've made it you have made it to tonight and you are graduating from high school our theme this year was adventure awaits and it's a perfect fit for our current time in our world we started the school year a little unsure as to what the year would look like you experience both school online and in person and many of you participated in class where the teachers were both online and in person a hybrid approach and that's tough it was tough on students teachers and staff but really what impressed me the most was your commitment and your perseverance you easily could have come up with an excuse oh yeah we were supposed to graduate in 2021 but you know covet happened we could have had that but you didn't you continued to persevere you showed up every day whether it be online or in person and you followed your dream you didn't let other things impact you and throw you off guard and the adventure was truly there for sure and many of us adults family friends and staff had ques you had questions for us where we didn't have the answers we all lived through the pandemic not knowing the answers but nobody gave up on you we all committed to stay with you right to support you and help you through it that led to this evening you should be proud of yourselves we are all very proud of you now we should have another person here with us this evening and we're all wearing a green ribbon the favorite color of your class your teammate and your friend alexander james stewart who is gone too soon may of 2020 was a hard time he didn't have the opportunity to experience his senior year but we are wearing green to honor him and we also have a chair in place with you graduates to honor him now let's take a few moments to reflect and in memories of alex stewart [Music] it's been a long day without you my friend and i'll tell you all about it when i see you again we've come a long way [Music] you know all the planes we flew good things we've been through did i be standing right here talking to you about another pass i know we love to hit the road and laugh but something told me that it wouldn't last had to switch up look at things different see the bigger picture those were the days hard work forever pays now i see you in a better place how can we not talk about family with families all that we got everything i would do you [Music] and i'll tell you all about it when i see you again we've come a long way from where we began oh i'll tell you all about it when i see you again when i see you again alex is here with you he's watching over you proud of you and congratulating you and now it's your time to celebrate all of your work thus far class of 2021 i am proud of you and your adventure awaits it's your time grab it up next is our senior representative and we will be showing you a video presentation from isabella ballard hi my name is isabelle ballard the seniors voted me as their senior representative definitely nervous but here i am now i would like to thank the staff and the seniors and parents for coming to this graduation without your constant support we would not be here at this gym our life is like a story we have many chapters left to go some of you will be starting your own chapter and your own path it felt like just a year ago we started our freshman year of high school and now we're finally graduating with our cap and gown the night finally came hopefully we can still stay in touch since social media is everywhere now i never thought time would go by so fast i appreciate every little moment i've had with each of you at ptsd ever since i transferred back to pdsd to start my sophomore year of high school i've been so happy and now i have a lot of goals after graduating my goal is to be a licensed cosmetologist and business owner i'd like to thank my family and friends for supporting me throughout 12 years of school it was all because of your constant support and motivation i found a reason to come to school even when i didn't want to come i will definitely miss ptsd ptsd will always have a special place in my heart we did it senior class also selected a commencement speaker our athletic director jeff platerol thank you courtney graduates staff parents friends good evening and congratulations class of 2021 this evening you've accomplished something special and that's your high school diploma your moments away from starting your journey and just so you know it won't be easy 30 years ago i sat where you are at my high school graduation sat in my tuxedo with my fancy sunglasses believe it or not i had hair oh yeah i'd like to share a few life lessons that i learned throughout my journey the journey begins today for you you've been in school for a long time 12 years some of you may continue on with your education go to college trade school maybe a community college and maybe some of you will start work tomorrow some of you might not know what to do whatever you decide every journey starts somewhere it's your journey you you're the driver an interesting journey that has no end you may start down one path you don't want to do that you go down another and then another it's important that you make the journey what you want it to be no one else can make it for you that's life it's huge you have a lot of options ideas and it's up to you to decide i can't do it for you principal fritz can't do it for you faculty teachers parents can't do it for you it's up to you to decide so make the best of this journey you can do it the second topic i wanted to talk about is called forward remember at the start of the journey all journeys have new beginnings you will face challenges along the way and maybe things won't go as expected you may want one thing but it doesn't happen and that's okay it's not the end of the world when your plans don't go how you want it to what do you do you adjust you think re-evaluates don't give up keep moving forward you faced covid this year that was tough school was tough like courtney said you were committed to keep going keep on moving forward the third topic i wanted to talk about was learning to accept change change happens every day what happened 30 years ago 20 years ago 10 years ago or even five years ago is different than today it's not the same i encourage you to accept the change and change will help you with your future in your life you may change your mind about school about relationships jobs anything that's important to you just remember what makes you happy because you have to be happy with yourself no one's going to bring you happiness the fourth is failure it's interesting to fail right no one likes to lose but failure is a part of life we fail every day i fail all the time failure doesn't mean you're a bad person failure doesn't mean you give up once you fail you keep going you keep moving forward you keep changing failure makes you a stronger person and it's an opportunity for you to learn thomas edison the person who invented the light bulb you know who i'm talking about he failed 1 000 times before he was successful michael jordan you know basketball player chicago bulls he didn't make it on his high school varsity basketball team and then he became one of the best players in the world winning six nba championships failure didn't stop them they kept going so you don't be afraid to fail now my final comment to you all is family and friends one of the most important investments you'll ever make i'm not talking about the stock market or buying into real estate i'm talking about the most important investment you'll make is into your family and friends you will have the same friends you will meet and make new friends along the way as well cherish them friends they come and go and it doesn't matter what kind of car you drive in the future or what kind of house you have or how much money you have that all doesn't matter spend as much time with your family and friends choose to hang around people that bring positivity to your life who are supportive of you and who you can support in in your future i'm here today because my friends and family i learned lessons through a life so i want to thank you seniors for allowing me to speak tonight i've had a long and good journey lots of ups and downs as well i'm here today standing tall and balds and brights but you are shining too tonight congratulations class of 2021 i wish you the best of luck thank you jeff next is our two speakers and our senior farewell traditionally our presentation is given by osmar our salutatorian osmar ramirez and our valedictorian selena escobar hernandez please watch both videos good evening superintendent annette reichman assistant superintendent dr kristen rex principal courtney fritz and our two assistant principals amber akapnidis and jill voigt teachers staff interpreters and families who are here to celebrate our graduation thank you for being here and we love you all it has been a crazy year because of covid but we the class of 2021 persevered and successfully completed our online and in-person learning we could not have done it without our teachers support and patience thank you families for your unconditional love and support in making the right decision to send us to ptsd for our education here we are standing before you on this day of our graduation actually graduating when i first came to ptsd i was thrilled to see friends and teachers talking and signing from that very first day to now i have made many lifelong friends i have enjoyed playing sports with some of you and i will surely miss all of those times especially the times when we got in trouble for things we should not have done i sure will miss being a troublemaker but that helped me to learn the difference between right and wrong and i'm sure the parents and teachers feel relieved enough of this i am a senior now and like you my fellow classmates i have learned my lesson my young and foolish days are over i plan on working in the auto industry the past four years have been a wild journey many of us started here as kids in 2005 and now we're leaving as young adults graduating today wherever the future leads us it is up to each one of us individually to make good choices our careers may differ we may follow our own separate paths but remember our hearts are always here to stay entering the real world can be scary and a blessing some of us may go to college vocational training work or university believe in yourself and know that you all can succeed do not let anyone else tell you differently trust yourselves and trust your heart yes there may be times we stumble or fall and make our own mistakes but no one is perfect we will learn from our mistakes that is part of life's lessons everyone who is graduating today will always continue to learn new things in life embrace the moments just know that you don't just give up over simple things keep trying and aim high until you reach your dream and success for that we are all worthy i want to mention a former student alex stewart who is no longer here with us he departed earth too soon i know as he watches over us he is proud to see all of us graduate tonight we miss you alex i would like to close with some simple advice believe in yourself believe in your success and dream big be happy and continue with your education or career just don't give up be proud of yourselves a new start may be rough i'm going to tell you it's not going to be easy but it will be worth it again we love you all long live class of up to and now i would like to say a special thank you to my parents i appreciate everything that you've done for me i may not be perfect but i appreciate that you have witnessed me transforming from a young girl to an independent woman you were patient with me through all of my ups and downs and now you get to see who i am today to the seniors make sure that you thank your parents and your family or whoever has been there for you make sure to thank those who supported you i'd also like to thank the interpreters who helped me through my junior year until now i appreciate all that you have done lot of thoughts and memories and today is our special day we are about to graduate but remember after you graduate it's going to be a difficult journey don't be afraid of the future it's only the beginning and i'm pretty sure it won't be an easy journey for everyone including me we don't know what's going to happen in the future but this is the beginning for all of us i want each of you to enjoy your life as roy t bennett says if you want to be happy do not dwell in the past do not worry about the future focus on living fully in the present it's time for us to live now in the words of superintendent of the arizona state schools for the deaf and the blind today i want to talk about what did i want to talk about oh that's right our seniors all of you seniors ready to graduate the class of 2021 you are ready to get your diploma that is amazing i've been thinking about your experience over the last 13 years you've made a lot of progress to get the diploma your experience has been different than any other students who have graduated in the past how has it been different of course you'll remember that as you were juniors last year attending school and taking your classes with your teachers and your fellow students everything had been going well and then in march of 2020 our entire world turned upside down schools all over the country were closing and you couldn't come to your school we had to scramble to figure out how we could continue your education because you wanted to complete high school right we had to find a way to get you laptops and internet access your teachers had to figure out how to educate you virtually you had a virtual education last spring and then you came back to school in the fall and again you weren't allowed to attend in person you had to stay home that was an incredible challenge for all of you you did what you had to do you persevered you took your courses you logged online every day you worked with your teachers your friends your fellow students until you were able to come back to school in person in october then we got to december and again in january we had to go back to virtual education for a month you had to take your classes online again with your teachers what an incredible challenge for you for your parents and for your teachers as well as the rest of the staff everybody stuck with it and did what they had to do until finally in february we were able to come back in person and we have been in person for the last four months you've been able to come to class and i am so incredibly proud of you you have persevered through so much even though the world turned upside down you maintained your focus you did your homework you attended your classes you engaged with your teachers you wanted to graduate and now you are graduating you have met every challenge head on you have overcome every obstacle and again i have to say that i am so very proud of you and i am so impressed with everything that you have accomplished through these circumstances you know the world has changed drastically over the last year there has been a lot of discussion about a racial reckoning this means black and brown people should be given the same respect and the same opportunities as all other people as those of us who are white last year in 2020 during the election there was a great deal of controversy about who was actually president and who was not and again you maintained your focus your life your homework all of the requirements you had to complete to graduate you did and today is your day today you can celebrate but be aware that once you've graduated that does not mean that you can stay home and lounge on the couch and do nothing absolutely not you have attained those skills of perseverance and meeting challenges head on those are skills that you now have and you can go out and use those skills for the rest of your life you can go on to higher education college university technical school job training or something right away use those skills that you have acquired for the rest of your life again i must say your experience is so unique no other graduating class has had your experience and you made it congratulations class of 2021 and now it is my honor and privilege to formally recognize the graduating class of 2021 seniors now that you've graduated you're no longer seniors you're adults so please come to the stage for a group photo also um to the families we do have a photo booth set up so when they're done with their group picture please feel free to take advantage of our photo booth and grab some pictures and memories of today thank you for coming thank you for your support patience and just ongoing dialogue throughout this year thank you again for coming class of school confers its highest academic honors by recognizing the top one percent of the graduating class the following students will graduate tonight with highest distinction and i ask them to please stand as i call their names lily zello peter ng samantha parker eleanor mchugh mary zimmerman and emma swanton hello everyone let's all make some noise for our sunny slope [Music] graduates [Applause] most importantly i'd like to begin by thanking those who have brought the class of 2021 to where we are today to our parents thank you for your unfaltering support from the late nights finishing projects to the midday drives bring a forgotten lunch you were always there for us parents you taught us love you taught us culture you taught us compassion i know that every single one of us is forever grateful for your presence to our teachers thank you for pushing us to reach new heights thank you for supporting us and achieving our goals and having patience when we fall a bit short of them finally to the rest of our faculty thank you for all that you've done this year all of this would not have been possible without you now that it's almost time to leave i want to emphasize all that we've gained as vikings we've learned confidence pride perseverance activism courage gratitude qualities that will serve us for the rest of our lives students if we're capable of learning all this in just four years imagine what our lifetime will look like as the rest of the speakers follow me tonight i want each of us to reflect on the true impact that sunny soap has made on who we are today and what we value regardless of what our next steps hold whether it be college a career a gap year a presidency looking at you payton each step presents us with this unfathomable opportunity to keep learning to develop the skills we learned as graduates of sunny slope high school and literally change the world thank you and congratulations to the class of 2021 good evening sunny slope high school class of 2021 graduates it is an honor to be speaking to you tonight this year has had its challenges and i'm glad to see that everyone has persevered through their problems no matter what they may be to be with us tonight one trait i have developed throughout my high school career that i've depended heavily on in recent times is confidence the self-assurance in your own abilities and qualities i hope to instill confidence in you tonight lately it has been difficult to have confidence in anything due to the uncertainties of life however knowing that everything will turn out okay in the end can help push you through difficult times personally i was completely burned out the week before spring break and i was overwhelmed with tests and homework looking back i realized that i need to celebrate the small victories a technique i've used to build my confidence and motivate myself is saying out loud i'm such a baller after finishing any little task that seems difficult this technique is most effective when said aloud but it can also be useful as just a thought in your head for example when during an ap test or even just doing the dishes know that you are amazing and have worked hard for all of your accomplishments be confident in how awesome you are stay ballin [Applause] okay [Music] no [Music] reflection [Music] [Applause] esperanza [Applause] this past year it has been hard not to feel overwhelmed with reminders of opportunities lost and experiences missed out on i've grown tired of hearing what we would have done if we were seniors in any other year the reality is this isn't any other year and we can't get so caught up in ruminating on what could have been that we ignore all the amazing things that were the sunny slope high school class of 2021 can boast an endless amount of incredible achievements that my time-constrained speech cannot begin to touch upon we built positive change in our communities we honored timeless traditions and created our own we won championships and competitions even under less than ideal circumstances throughout it all we built lasting friendships learned valuable lessons and made a difference in the lives of one another so i ask of you tonight do not minimize all that you have accomplished and all that you have contributed we are not the end result of one unforeseen year we are a manifestation of all the good that we have done all the change that we have rendered all the lessons that we have learned and all the strength that we have found what we did here these past four years mattered and deserves to be remembered and celebrated as such thank you arizona is home to some of the greatest natural wonders in the world i can say without a doubt that the deserts and forests of this state raised me as a kid my favorite memories for the evenings i spent under the vast expanse of stars or the long summer afternoons i spent forging for bugs to collect in jars i'm sure many of you have similar experiences nothing parallels the tranquility of the aspen's up in flag or the patchator that follows a summer monsoon as we move forward from sunny slope high school may we remember not only the community we shared at sunny slope but also the land that we grew up in remember that we have a responsibility to protect it right now arizona is facing many challenges increased temperatures longer drought seasons increased wildfire risk and extinction of native animals at this point you may be wondering why i decided on this topic for a graduation speech when i look across the stage i see students with potential students going into careers in the arts sciences and humanities students that i know if they put their mind to it could achieve any problem put in front of them class of 2021 i am so incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished this year but please please don't forget where we came from remember your responsibility to protect those deep orange sunsets and wild burros of the state that made you who you are today good evening our time at sunny slope has granted us the opportunity to explore to take chances and learn more about who we want to be now as we move forward these choices we make take on a greater weight and yet our graduation here today represents more than just the assumption of responsibilities though it certainly that to both ourselves and the human race what we are being given here today is an opportunity the world is both in our hands and at our feet and yes as we go forward we must bear that responsibility in mind but we also must recognize that we now have the power to begin creating the world in which we want to live and think about that for just a moment we are forging our world and doing the same with our paths these paths will be riddled with our triumphs and our failures our joys and our sorrows and as we decide how the trials of our lives will define who we are we get to choose not only our own futures but that of the world each will leave an impact on the adults we have already begun to become so ironically as the sun sets outside this arena our day dawns and we now have the opportunity to make of that what we choose thank you we have a tradition at sunny slope called letters of gratitude where seniors write to teachers um who made an impact on their four years at sunny slope their rights to teachers who made an impact on their four years at sunny slope so as i was writing my letters of gratitude this past year i didn't think about um the characteristics of acid-base reactions or my analysis of to kill a mockingbird but i did what i did remember was when mr curry noticed that i had a bad day and asked how he could help or when miss willis accepts all of my work no matter how late because she knows just how much i struggled this past semester because the teachers here aren't um just here to teach us they're here to show us what it means to have good character and to grow and develop as students and people so i can't thank the teachers here enough and express enough gratitude for what they've done to help us these last four years thank you good evening my name is peyton fox i'm the student body president of sunny slope high school i'm here tonight to talk to you about crocs yes crocs if you were like me many of your early childhood adventures wouldn't have been possible without the revolutionary ultra hip italian styled foam shoe i'm before you now wearing my crocs not only because of my questionable fashion choices but also because they represent our transition into adulthood we the senior class of sunny slope high school are each our very own pair of crocs the first steps we took as freshmen and our blank and empty crocs are not the same steps we take tonight tonight we take our final steps as vikings as crocs chock-full of gibbets gibbets the little charms found on crocs are synonymous with experiences thus made possible by this school this family and each and every single one of you without each other and all those who've helped us along the way we would never have become the colorful random and unique crocs we are today as i conclude i wish you all the very best on your quest for more gibbets and remind you of your impact on each other thank you this is close enough yeah all right hello and good evening parents family members friends teachers faculty and last the reason you are all here sitting in a freezing ice rink for the next two hours the class of 2021.

we had a clear choice to power off and just fixate on the traditions that we missed out on or to stand tall take action and continue igniting the flames of passion within us i can proudly say that all 190 of us chose the latter when the stay-at-home order was first issued i could not believe how quickly our role as civic leaders in the community grew each individual in our class continued taking steps to addressing issues plaguing society like homelessness domestic violence and climate change taking plans we had first drafted in our history classes to the next level we showed the world that not even a pandemic can stop us from being brave motivated and influential citizens during this past year servathon i received confirmation that we are not just the class of 2021 but the class of servant leadership while so many groups across the nation abandoned mlk day service events due to the pandemic we seniors maintain the same mindset that has kept us going throughout the past six years giving up is never the answer we put our minds together to create the best virtual serveathon event possible from writing letters to disaster relief workers to making touching videos for our first responders leaders in our class managed to bring the entire oa community together to promote unity appreciation and kindness i now realize why orientation did not teach us how to survive a pandemic we did not need to be taught we just needed an environment that would nurture our growth challenge us and empower us to be the best versions of ourselves and oxford provided us with just that over the past six years the class of has done more than just survive we have far exceeded all expectations as we venture off into our next endeavors i am confident that we will continue to break through glass ceilings with the competencies we have gained oa we are more equipped to lead in society than any classes that came before us but we will also never forget who we are at our core oa patriots thank you to the entire 08 community for your incredible support and seniors congratulations we are here and we made it thank you now let's listen to the virtual choir performance by oxford academy singers after the performance brandon mi will deliver his speech [Music] river and it made me completely tell me [Music] i came across a fallen tree i felt the branches of it looking at me is this the place we used to love is this the place that i've been dreaming [Music] i need somewhere to begin [Music] why don't we go me [Music] is [Music] somewhere only we know [Applause] thank you hello class of 2021 it's such a joy to have the privilege of speaking to you all in person and to see all of your faces physically rather than virtually through the pixels on my computer six years ago on august 5th 2015 we entered oxford academy ready for our first day of school equipped with a backpack notebook maybe our first mechanical pencil and an abundance of energy we are ready to tackle head-on our new freedom responsibilities and excitement of oxford as we met challenge after challenge we honed our knowledge learning that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell discovering the wonders of sohcahtoa and conquering the mighty question of what does it mean to be human we also saw class after class graduate saw countless seniors sleeping in the middle of the quad after senior sunrise or driving their cars to the side of the gym for a movie under the stars we patiently waited our turn to experience it all until we didn't as if high school wasn't crazy enough the onset of an unprecedented pandemic threw all our senior dreams out the window yet every class is faced with what they will be remembered for for the class of 201 the answer is easy covert 19 but i know that's not what we want to be rumored for nor should be remembered for three new podcasts a push for an ethics studies course requirement countless small line businesses and a couple of budding tick tock stars only begin the long list of quarantine accomplishments think about all the new skills we learned from bread making and using the mute button correctly to video editing and changing zoom backgrounds think about all the new challenges we face together from webcam failures to internet issues i mean who else can say they woke up every day five minutes before class they went to school in the pajamas for a whole year think about all the firsts we're able to create the first senior class to take an entire year of school online the first senior class to play video games let me say again video games as a class bonding event the first senior class they faced off in an online jeopardy game against the staff the first senior class to put on a successful online orchestra band and choir show and even when we thought the odds are stacked against us here we are today having our well-earned in-person graduation to become the first senior class to graduate during a pandemic so will the class of 2021 be remembered as a coveteer of course not even though we may not have had the senior year we have wanted the saga we have written is special irreplaceable and uniquely ours we graduate oxford battle tested experienced and equipped with friendships that i'm confident will stand the test of time ten years from now society will ask where is the covert class of 2021 today and while we'll always be under the bail of the coronavirus i know we will not let five letters and two numbers define our legacy just like our senior year and as the goodbyes may begin shortly i'd rather leave you with this final message until we meet again because this isn't the final goodbye and so when it started the next graduate is only to start the next big thing for the historic graduating class of 2021 that is my pleasure to introduce celeste kim senior class president 2020 2021 and katherine lee asb president 2021-2022 for the presentation of the class gift first i would like to thank all the teachers administrators and staff who supported the class of 2020-2021 i am proud to present the class of 2021's gift to oxford academy the class is providing four automatic hand sanitizing stations as a memento to the unprecedented past year batteries are included additionally the senior class would like to present a monetary donation to the incoming freshman class of 2025 for their future events on behalf of oxford academy it is my pleasure to accept this gift from the class of 2021.

my name is ariana colossimo your senior class president and it is an honor to be here speaking in front of you all today before i announce the senior gift i want to start out by thanking all of the amazing teachers and staff that dedicated so much of themselves and made this unprecedent entire year a success if someone would have told me four years ago that i would be cl that would that i would be completing my senior year for my couch in my pajamas i would have bet both of my legs well as you can see but in all seriousness this class has sacrificed so much for missing out on being able to go to an after school sport event hearing the band play our fight song seniors not being able to rush the field on senior night to sing our school's alma mater to not having a homecoming or just not to even be able to see one another smile we took hit after hit but guess what else we did we persevered and as overused as that word is we earned it to borrow my mom's favorite quote from robert frost in three words i can sum up everything i've learned about life it goes on life doesn't stop when there is a worldwide pandemic going on that will cause you to miss out on a lot of things you looked forward to over the course of your entire school career it goes on life doesn't stop for anyone regardless of what situation you're in bad or good it goes on that is what is certain that is what is true so remember to always make the best out of every situation because one thing i have learned is that even though things may seem bad at the moment they could always be worse so take the good with the bad and always be grateful for every day that you are given because not every day is promised make sure to think and show appreciation to everyone who helps you along the way the love and support of family and loved ones got a lot of us here today so thank you mom dad gia and all of my family and friends that i have been that i've been here helping me get through this challenging year thank you i love you all and cannot have done this without you and now it's announced the senior gift this year we wanted to purchase a gift that would serve the sunny slope campus and represent our contribution and dedicated and dedication to the continued support of the school on behalf of the senior class our 2020-2021 senior gift will be purchasing a new music box thank you and congratulations to the graduating class of 2021 i'm the only junior here so i'll try to keep it short uh as the incoming student body president i've had the opportunity to get to know many members of the senior class over these past four years all of them have changed developing their personalities honing their values and discovering their future paths but through it all their sense of camaraderie has been unwavering especially this year the class of 2022 has huge crocs to fill but we look forward to upholding the precedent set by these seniors on behalf of the next generation of sunny slope students i gratefully accept the new music box and wish the senior class the best of luck in their future endeavors thank you [Applause] so in addition to the students in the top one percent i would like to recognize scholars earning distinction in a number of different fields they are reflected by the chords that they are wearing students who belong to the following groups please stand and be recognized students in the top 10 percent [Applause] air force junior rotc student government slash student council french honor society german honor society [Applause] international thespian society national honor society quill and scroll spanish honor society speech and debate and finally unified sports i recognize that there are two speeches that remain between now and your diplomas so i thank you for your patience and i promise my remarks will be brief in designing a speech that is about two minutes long it ceases to be a speech and becomes more set of bullet points of advice so with that first piece of advice be skeptical of adults offering unsolicited advice i don't know that i've ever addressed a group with a better understanding of this simple message appreciate what you have because nothing is guaranteed treasure the moments treasure the moments you have with those that you cherish rather than lamenting opportunities lost relish the gorgeous sunset rather than bemoaning the end of the day find beauty in who you are and never conform to some arbitrary definition of beauty provided by someone else marinate in moments of joy savor the splendid know that you are loved look around seriously look around in any direction that you look you will find that this place radiates love none of you accomplished this alone so be generous with your gratitude enrich the world with kindness may your humility always exceed your pride know that you are special you were born in the shadow of 9 11 graduating in what we hope is the twilight of a global pandemic few generations in recent history can claim similar 18-year bookend events and while you carry the same brilliance and kindness and generosity as all of your predecessors you boast a unique record of grit and determination and perseverance that no living generation can claim your walk across the stage tonight is less about mastery of academic content than a testament to all that you have overcome when you leave here tonight as viking alumni carry the tools that you collected the characteristics developed confident that in the face of adversity we fight on should obstacles emerge we fight on and in quiet moments of doubt we fight on sunny slope graduates whatever tomorrow may bring fight on it is my privilege at this moment to introduce our governing board member miss lara arrita miserita began i would now like to i would like to welcome gabriella guzman to the podium to deliver her speech [Applause] my name is gabriella guzman and one vivid memory that i've gained here from oxford is that in seventh grade seventh period avid class we had to present about ourselves i ended up bawling my eyes out because for one we had to present what i was presenting about was very personal to me but mainly because i had a huge fear speaking in a front of a large audience so it's pretty incredible that six years later i'm here speaking to all of you with that being said my 12 year old self couldn't possibly imagine being in the position i am in today for better for worse we've seen each other grow up through the hard and easy times through the accomplishments and the failures through the embarrassments and the flexes through the pre-puberty awkward stages and the glow-ups we are the oxford academy class of 2021.
