[Music] was off to an excellent start with a kickoff return for a touchdown just to begin the game but the comments seem to be doing a very good job of getting down the field here let's see if clifton could retaliate or if the comments could keep running the ball well with the grounded pound and see if they score there we go two receivers line up on the right full back there one running back in the back field quarterback under center he takes the snap hands off goes and he breaks the tackle makes a nice move and he'll bring that up to midfield gain of about eight on the run second two [Music] polaris under center two receivers lined up to his left high formation he makes the tackle right away excellent playing these there number 76 ahmad ramadan was there for it so we'll be third down in about a yard and it looks like we have an injured mustang on the field as the medical staff that's one thing we never like to see injuries i can't quite tell who it is from here hold steady when the crowd puts their hands together for the injured mustang and he looks like he gets up a little bit he's limping off the field and that was number 72 tyler williams and the medical staff's gonna take a look at him the ball is placed at the 50-yard line right now third in a yard here let's see what clinton can do the comments have not passed the ball once this game so clifton should expect to run here let's see what happens they do go with a handoff up the middle and they seem to have got him one for the comments it looks like the offense is staying on the field the quarterback matt polaris he trots back onto the field and they're gonna go for it two receivers lined up on the right i formation pull back and running back let's see what they go in here he hands it off and it looks like he makes a nice move he brought it up to what seems to be the 52 and i believe they'll spot it far enough to get a first down [Music] just enough he got a pickup of two they'll be first and ten for the comments at about the 48 yard line on clifton's side so they have 48 yards to go until they get into the end zone which is a long way but let's see what they can do here still no passes thrown this game two receivers lined up on the left eye formation in the backfield he takes the snap it's a one pass option let's see who gets it the ball was fumbled after the catch and it's clipped in football a big turnover my goodness what a ton of events the first pass of the game was caught gain of seven and offense led by none other than quarterback ellis baby let's go and out comes the clifton offense led by kyle felix jacob maldonado on the backfield two receivers one receiver lined up on each side of the ball able in motion shotgun formation velas takes the snap hands off goes [Applause] and it looks like maldonado was there for the carry and you got a gain of two and it'll be second and eight looks like six people on the line from here shotgun formation maldonado on the backfield ellis takes the snap he's gonna throw has time he's looking deep and it's just overthrown looking deep for relief for donovan swayze [Music] just a little overthrown good defense by the comments though and it'll be third down in nine for clifton the big opportunity here for the commons to pick up a stop or let's see what happens all right take a break and it'll be fourth down and nine and clifton's gonna bring out the team and they're gonna send this one back to the comments gonna punt fourth down and nine and it's a pretty decent kick actually ball bounces at about the 30 and it keeps moving it's going over to the 20.
mcconaughey in there five rushes for 36 yards one big thing uh six different receivers with the reception so that's good that we're able to sling it around to different guys are on the field yeah and early in that game i mean i thought we were gonna stick with them for a little bit they their low line definitely looked a lot bigger waterloo's and they were a lot faster than us up front but i think if you have like you said if you have a couple more athletes out wide that can catch the ball having five or six guys that can put a lot of defenses in a bind and i think coach horner will go back to that drawing board tonight i hope so and defensively like we said gave up 389 yards coach germaine knew he was in a bit of a pickle waterloo's offensive line they were just bigger stronger faster they're meaner than us we've talked about that a little bit too you know they're putting up 389 yards and they did pretty much whatever they wanted to yeah 200 269 of it was on on the ground rushing so coach tremaine doesn't really like the sound of that giving up almost 300 rushing yards in a game that's something you don't hear much from columbia football but um hopefully tonight we see more of our linemen and linebackers get a little more action i mean don vagley led the team in tackles again with nine tackles so it'd be nice to see one of our big guys to step up i know we say it every week but it's kind of going to have to happen one of these weeks talked to coach warner last night too a little bit in that coach's corner and he had said that there was going to be a little bit of a switch it sounds like mcconaughey and vaguely might move up more towards linebacker role so you know that a little bit susceptible in the in the back half of the field but you know if those guys are going to come up and make a tackle now they're going to make a tackle three yards deep rather than seven yards yeah and that's that's huge for coach tremaine's defense because if you have some of these linebackers that are still make getting in the right spot but you have guys like vaguely and mcconaughey who are so much quicker on their feet and they just have a nose for the football so i think that could be a huge addition for the eagles defense like we had said tonight is first responders night we'd like to thank all of our first responders for uh going out putting their live on the with nokomis civic memorial and harrisburg and then something that again we haven't said before columbia sitting at o-2 versus marquette so talked to coach horner last night he's like i said he expected chester or freyberg and brees to beat chester and redbud and then you get into the wood river nokomis game don't know too much about them but this new conference that we have in the conference standings you don't have a week off anymore like we used to there's a every week is going to be different and there's some with having new teams on your schedule that just makes it a little more difficult for the coaches and the players because you're going up against a personnel and a bunch of different things that you've never seen before so i think columbia is definitely going in the right direction with having different people on your schedule i think it makes makes the team look just i i don't know how to explain it but like whenever you play team's more of your higher up than you i think it's a lot looks better on your team makes it gets you ready for playoff time i agree with you there i mean you look at her non-conference 5a muscuda 5a waterloo i believe marquette here is a 4a school with the multiplier and then you go to 5a jerseyville late into the year so you know there's no more to a 3a games anymore and like you said that'll get you ready for week 10.
clifton picks it up and that is where the comments will begin their drive at the 20-yard line out comes their offense and now comes the mighty mustangs the punt defense go very high but clifton got a really good bounce there it bounced and shrouded a little bit over towards the 20 and that's actually a pretty good place to start for the to start a drive at least for cliffs inside they got 80 yards to go and out comes the comet's offense let's see if clifton could get a turn over here again quarterback under center one receiver in motion multiple people on the line they go with the handoff he tries to bounce to the outside and he is not going anywhere as a matter of fact i believe he lost a yard or two excellent defense there second and 11. [Applause] [Music] receiver to his left side two people in the backfield he takes the snap he's gonna throw fires to his left side over points intercepted and there he goes past the 20 15 10 5 touchdown clifton my goodness the second of the game for donald and swayze he's got one on special teams and one on defense [Applause] showtime unreal and he plays in the crowd as the 50 bench goes wild and the crowd going nuts as well of pick six cleveland doesn't even have a touchdown on special teams and on defense unbelievable and clifton takes a 13-nothing lead here in the first quarter here we go with the extra point high snap kick is up and it hits the crossbar and it goes through and clifton has a 14-0 lead my goodness clifton off to an amazing start [Applause] unbelievable [Applause] on this team he gets another pick six the band banging in the drums lift and going to kick back off to the comments here as they hold a 14-nothing lead with 440 left to go in only the first quarter so it's not over but clifton has a nice lead and there goes the kickoff it's a pretty good one it takes a bounce at the 10 and it goes out of bounds at the 1 yard line excellent decision there by the returner he lets it go out of bounds and they get good field position to start because of that fumble and one interception that was taken back for six by number six donovan swayze he hands the ball off bounce to left side cuts back in tackle made it about the 33 yard line so a gain of three on the run there second and seven okay one man the back hill shotgun formation two receivers lined up on the right one on the left he takes the snap hands off up the middle breaks a tackle brought down at around the 42 gain of about 5 32.
now columbia though you lose two more games you might play in week 10 you might not you need to get that six and three to for sure solidify yourself in that week ten match up yeah and a lot of these guys uh have been never played varsity football like we said but these first two weeks they've got a couple couple games under their belt so uh tonight we're looking to see a lot more um aggressiveness and fire fireness out of the columbia eagles yeah you can't have that first snap anymore we talked earlier in the year you know these guys are playing their first varsity sample that was two games ago yeah that first varsity snaps out of the way yes it is you just got to be a man got to get it done and you got to be that guy that gets it done so conference standing wise though trying to get back into that and trying to don't give up too much ground yeah early into the season so i don't know how you're going to have to get it done but one way or another you got to get it done you talk about the new conference and totality though you've got the large division the medium division and the small division so large division still sits with columbia breeze and freeburg we pick up east alton wood river and roxanna salem was in the kokia conference already there that last team in the large division your medium division now carlisle chester oakville redbuds sparta westland and your small division dupo marisa new athens steelville lebanon valmeier now you look at that medium division oakville does not have a football program you look at the small division dupo does so dupo now bumps up and plays that medium division uh football schedule so yeah it's uh i talked to coach moore last night like i said in the halton meets coach's corner and he said scheduling-wise not too big of an issue especially for football everybody's just going to play each other once and then there's no inner conference games that you have to play so just a new look to the kokia conference you still have the mississippi division and the kaskaskia and then you just saw that other division which i like it a lot i like i think it makes it a lot tougher for teams and i think it's going to go be really good one thing i am going to mention we don't have ralph stone on the pa this anymore this year he gave his ten years i believe is what it was and now we have mr winter's coming back after he said eight seasons so he came back and he's going to do the season so i forgot how good his voice is oh you can hear the power in his voice definitely yeah and he's always like you were saying whenever he did the uh basketball lineups oh my gosh oh my gosh so coming into tonight we're about 12 minutes away from kickoff here chs versus the marquette explorers are one in three all time currently have that one game win streak here with coach hoyner going 1-0 last street last year was a 35-14 victory for the eagles and that had marquette going two and four for the season so they've got that big play ability that coach warner was talking about so it's going to be something where that our defensive backs and we have to limit those big plays yeah and you've got to contain the athletes coach coach germain and coach warner have talked about it all year if a team offense has one or two athletes you got to key in on those guys and guys up front have to be ready tonight i think up front we've looked a lot slower than usual and we've looked just a step behind so tonight i'm hoping to see the the front line work a little harder and push us to a w they're coming off the week one loss i'm saying uh marquette week one loss i think it was 48-10 um so they give up the points and then 48 20 or 40 to 21 last week to say so we're both in the same spot right now we're both giving up a lot of points they're putting up a little bit more than us so it's uh every team's exploring for that first victory so hopefully the eagles can fly a little higher tonight oh i like what you did there there you go that was nice that was nice so what are your expectations for tonight well up front like i said i think that's going to be the biggest thing i'm hoping for the eagles to come out 21.8 um but like i said it's going to all have to start up front so you're saying 21-8 your prediction for tonight i'm gonna go 35-14 i think we're going to get it rolling we're gonna get the offense going hopefully we can get them down in a hurry get their heads down rather than getting our heads down and keep putting it on them a little bit more and hopefully we have those big plays coach horner said without giving too much away he goes we're gonna start out pretty quick tonight so hopefully we're able to get that done and uh and something last week also um that we saw a lot of week one was the penalties there was not as many penalties as there was in week one and the injuries all the cramps looked a lot better than they did in week one so it looks like everybody's healthy and everybody's looking pretty good so week three i'm looking for a good game tonight well there's no excuses for cramps tonight it feels awesome out here we are about nine ten minutes away crowd here again for the columbia eagles once again everybody's on the fence line marquette didn't travel the best but they do have a couple people over in the stands with them columbia's going to come out blue tops blue bottoms and the white helmets with the white numbers and you will look over at the marquette explorers and the white helmets white tops and anthracite pants we're gonna do a for the aces wild pre-game show it's time to play football we've talked about it enough somebody's going to explore for that first victory or fly higher than the other get it i missed the coin toss once again we're gonna have to have a spotter for the coin toss just so we know what's going on looks like coach kendall's out there getting kick return team ready might be the kicking team it is the kicking team kicking team so columbia will kick off to get this game going and gotta get a little excitement here and the fans and the stands and the cheerleaders and when it starts out on the field if the guy on the field is excited that's going to push it off to the sideline to the cheerleaders cheerleaders to the fans so somebody's going to have to give somebody some excitement here tonight and it's going to start with the opening kick let's see if we can get it back deep and pin them back into the into their own territory pretty deep and something that surprised me this year is uh dom vaguely uh his the leg that he's got on him some of these punts and kicks that we've seen um this year by him it just shows he's a great athlete and he can do pretty much anything that the coaches ask of him explorers are going to send three guys back number 13 number five kick to the right side of the field that will be caught by number 13 he's going to take it up the middle of the field there's a little bit of a seam tries to spin out of a tackle and it's going to be brought down by number 34 though for the eagles so jared what do you have for your three keys today i think coming off an o and two start you gotta come out pumped up um you can't be down on yourselves you gotta come out and just put those previous weeks behind you and finally i wanna see a linebacker alignment like i stated earlier in the pregame show lead to lead the game in tackles um we've seen dom vaguely the first two weeks lead the team and tackles both games so let's see one of the big guys step up for a week columbia switching to a 4-3 look here four down lineman it's going to be a fake hand off kept by the quarterback he's not going to get anywhere looks like none other than number 65 owen brewer that's something that we're going to have to keep doing all night stuff it up in the middle and force him to throw the ball around a little bit so our athletes can make plays but great job there on first down to push them push them back a yard and a half start with a second and 11.
comments need a first down here they're down 14 nothing clock's winding down we've hit 3 20 in the corner he takes the snap handoff up the middle makes a nice move locked down at about the 44 gain of two just short of the first flag on the field very late flag mustang's pointing at the comet's team and another flag thrown there so it's a flag so there are two penalties one on each team both penalties offset it's fourth down and they're saying fourth and three so in both penalties offset that means nothing happens because there is a penalty on each side and now it's fourth and three clock has been stopped let's see what the comments do here can clifton pick up another stop and get back on offense we'll see [Applause] goes backwards towards the 30 out of bounds at around the 26 where clifton will begin their drive so instead of going for it around midfield they decide to punt it's a pretty good one and clifton will begin their drive at the 25 yard line and on comes the clifton offense led by senior now quarterback kyle velasquez he's been this he's been the quarterback for a while and every season we've seen him improve including this year and i talked to him not too long ago he said he's excited to be a senior he said just expect a lot for me he said i'm ready to play and then he said this is one of the best he's the best he's ever felt and clifton lost a little bit of players this year but they kept mostly everybody let's see how they do man in motion fellows takes the snap jet sweep there to i believe donovan swayze he's brought down at about the 23 yard line i believe it's a loss of two even though that may have been a negative play my goodness he has not had a negative gain he has an interception taken back for a touchdown and the very first play in the game the kickoff he takes that one back 81 yards to the house so we have a 14-nothing lead let's see what clifton could do here shotgun formation two receivers lined up to count ellis's right one on his left he dumps that one off to swayze he gets past the 30 brought down about 35 and it's a first down [Applause] and the first first down at home for clifton this year picked up by who else and other than donovan swayze and he made me have an excellent game but don't forget clifton has many other weapons to work with on offense let's see who they use here snaps taken off to running back jacob makes a nice move makes another ice move breaks the tackle brings it up to midfield good run there by jacob mall donato and that's a first down [Music] and that's another senior player there jacob maldonado who picked up the first down and he's also another player who has been improving year by year and surprised to see him improve just because of how good he is he's been one of the best running backs in our in our division and he just keeps getting better and better bella's to throw here jump on here makes a nice move luke brings it up to the 45.
[Applause] that's one thing last week getting them back into the negative hard situations that's something huge that we need to be able to do and throw them off their game and be the same formation for the eagles sniffer back to the right pistol back would be the running back he's going to take the hand off run to the right side one man's going to miss and it's going to be about a six yard game like you said jared arm tackle two yards deep then it can't get anything looked like jay messer was right there in the right spot just didn't get his head across where the guy was running to and that's something we've seen a lot of this year with the eagles a lot of these safeties and linebackers come up and they'll lay a big hit on you they're just not wrapping up and you're allowing these running backs and quarterbacks to get loose and gain extra yards third down and six [Applause] here for the explorers from their own 46-yard line gonna be the same formation for everybody pistol back is running back he's gonna draw it's gonna be a pass play to the right side and it's gonna fall incomplete intended for number seven that's gonna be a three and out for the eagles defense great first stride there by the eagles defense on first down whenever on first down if you push them back a little bit that puts your offense in a bind because then when you have a second and 12 second and 11 and you don't get any yards there then that puts you in a tough third down spot so great job there to start off hot on the defensive side of the ball and hopefully we can see mcconaughey give us a good little run here to give us some good good yardage good position mcconaughey sure is fun to watch on kickoffs and kick the turns let's see him have a little bit of magic here on the punt return might not get to touch it gonna be a good punt it's going to be received at 22.

he's going to make some moves gonna try to get up the middle of the field he's gonna get probably a good 10-15 yards and the eagles will take over from their own 38-yard line so let's see this off and see what they can do this week and get last week we saw a little bit on that uh first couple drives vaguely was able to throw a couple slants a couple of out routes to his receivers and threw some great passes to his receivers and megan connected with megan said on what was it a 26 27 yard touchdown pass across the middle on a slant see what we open up in here sniffer back right pistol back is mcconaughey it's going to be a quick hit drop to the left side meganson's going to make the catch he's going to get nine he's going to get close to 10 and i think he's going to get 10.
clifton leads 20 nothing after a mixed extra point and clifton's doing an excellent job here 757 left to go in the first half and here we go with the kickoff and that one's actually a pretty good one as it goes all the way back to the five the return against the hole the ball gets past the okay it's past the 15-20 a tackle and he's brought up to the 24-yard line and that is where the comments will begin their drive huh [Music] drive at the 24 yard line snap is taken and it's a pitch to his running back he makes a nice move and the tackles made there at about the 23 and it'll be second down and 11. so right now it's good and they bring that one up to about the 25 game of maybe one or two and it'll be third down luke's scenario [Music] third down and six nothing showing blitz they do he's gonna throw and the pass is caught at about the 38 yard line [Music] take one minute uh [Music] and he is brought down clifton did not get faked out by that there omar knew him there for the tackle [Applause] looked like two there adrian king was the one that was the one second 11 here [Music] and they're gonna say he lost four there so it'll be second and fourteen for the form they go with comments handoff here on second and long and it looks like it worked gain of their a gain of about four or five there looks like he got what he lost back by courage lighting number two but i would say in most cases you should expect a pass and four minutes of five seconds remain here in the second timeout called the comments after the timeout police and as you can see the band works its way onto the track they'll be there correct time they'll be fourth down and ten [Applause] yeah this fourth and ten for the comments as you can see back there the team is getting a little hyped up donovan and marvin bailey number nine back there to return and that pun there is high and real short takes about there about the 45 and it's moving a little bit back and it's picked up at about the 37 yard line and that's where the mustangs will begin their drive and out comes the mustangs offense it's all good so there was a flag on the planet [Applause] against the comets very long 19 low snap paul messed around with and the not so good pun there that one takes a bounce and it gets to around midfield and the ball is picked up there the 49 and a half yard line almost to 50 and the clifton has better field position than they did before let's see how they do getting down three receivers lined up ellis's left one on his right one man in the backfield ellis takes the snap handoff goes there a couple tackles broken we have about two there on the run by number 16 chance chase [Music] gain of two there by chance blunt second and eight now for the mustangs shotgun formation again but a different set two receivers on each of ellis's sides bella's yard line and that's where he's brought down maybe a little bit short of the first third and a yard for clifton and clifton just switching a few players in and out here shotgun formation three receivers right one left [Music] in the first half [Applause] all right let's get some let's get some crowd off there to maldonado and he will pick up a couple of yards brought down about the 38 and that's a first down for clifton every time [Applause] another first down for clifton after a gain of six there velas takes a snap he's gonna throw here he fires to his way and it's caught by donovan swayze at the 36.
good for columbia eagles first down and just off that first play i'm seeing these corners playing off six seven yards and all megan did there was run a little three four yard hitch route turn right around and vaguely put the ball right in his hands and get good yards after catch there pick up the eagles first down tonight same formation once again four down night before the marquette explorers
