could all be president good evening board members teachers and parents my name is archuletta the mother of six daughters with four of them that's attending school in the valley tonight to speak to speak about the dates on vaccines and masks the masks work data proves that they don't they have they have been there have been multiple studies indicating that the data does not report a different infection mass and masked my husband and i decided wanted our girls to have as normal of a life as possible we chose to go to school and accepted the risks september 2nd my daughter came home from school sick for the second time this year we had her tested for the second time and she tested positive my daughter's class class of having at least seven and getting infected with did with it why did at least seven children infected in a classroom full of mass children because the nickel and cloth mathematics are effective at stopping this recovery my children learn were homes a month due to the infection we were masked in 3m and 95 masks if not in our rooms with the doors and then the windows open we did not run the air conditioner to hopefully stop threat it did not by september 8 everyone in my home was infected masks don't stop off the spread as studies in our home or in my daughter's classroom they need to be discarded another one i'd like to bring bring up is looking mandate maybe maybe literally or planning on importing my entire family has net antibodies we have proof of positive positive covets and the positive antibodies true we do not need a vaccine study studies show net immunities are for far superior spike proteins people previously infected sargasso and still show robust immunity 15 years later based on a study from phaser injected spike proteins loses fc in just a few short months i sure hope you're going to be looking at the natural antibodies being being present as full or superior vaccine i mean that by definition is not a vaccine it doesn't stop you from getting getting it or stopped from spreading it to others in all honest honesty to stop the spread the spread of it everyone should be tested not just just the unbalanced since it is possible for vaccinating and needed to spread the virus the pfizer scene was at 88 effectiveness of being fully vaccinated and a new study fund by pfizer shows that the fighter vaccine is at 47 effectiveness at five months how many of the vaccines per year are we going to try and stick in the arms of our children and staff staff my sister that was with kobe 19 still has antibodies 11 and a half months later later is this really about slack or money honey seven billion dollars fizer anticipates on receiving the boosters next year thank you [Laughter] we are going to pause a minute so the next room can see what is going on in this room we're going to restart the stream the cameras they're going to restart them okay

i wholeheartedly recommend this to be accomplished by joining forces with the aol's visionary project called ann arbor 200. thanks for your kind attention and have a productive meeting tonight thank you thank you robert anyone else other no all right we'll keep things going then um we have a number of member news um the first one up on the list is is fan and uh jeff uh did you want to talk a little bit about this or others sure i got a little presentation if if heather will allow me to uh oh sure uh you know share my screen get there i should be able to can i interrupt before we go that far is anybody else experiencing incredibly terrible feedback yeah i'm so sorry i don't i don't know if it's a matter of us all being muted but it's really distracting to i don't i don't know the solution i just wondered if it was me no no you're not alone i heard it too i thought it was one of us or maybe robert alice's alice is uh raising her hand sorry she's muted else do you want to meet yourself yes i'm getting the background noise too yeah is everybody continuing to get it i got it during well robert black was talking but i'm not hearing especially while he was talking but i got it but when jeff started to talk i heard it as well otherwise i wouldn't have okay so i wouldn't have said anything but then i really i assumed it wasn't related okay i so can you hear anything now when i'm talking yeah you oh no i i feel it's very it so for some reason it totally went away at least in miami so um if i share my screen here and you see this little uh document which you all have access to obviously so that's a picture of the signs that we put out among others several kinds of signs that's part of the the garden of the commons or the library law area of the uh library lane area um it has you know kind of a description of what fan is and promoting sustainable community and some icons and stuff this is some examples of the kind of publicity material that we put out in advance of the event in various form forums we also sent this material to journalists and broadcasters and so forth kind of a general one outlaying outlining what we were planning for uh activities um highlighting the date and it's a pre-free public event and giving the address and three of the main attractions if you like and uh there's a different angle here with these other items just to give you a feel for the material that we used so as i go through this very quickly you'll see pictures on on my right if i'm looking at you uh of some of some key elements or key of parts of the of the story uh some some detail we had approximately 200 people participate in the event which i thought was quite reasonable considering that the forecast for quite substantial rain and thunderstorms was there up until quite early in the morning and so that could have intimidated a lot of people but uh as i say 200 people did show up and this was during a four hour period we we were hoping to have more vendors than than six but we had six vendors which was good too uh it was a pretty representative sample we had some jewelry vendors and we had a non-profit sustainability power non-profit local power nonprofit we had um a local supplier of knitted goods we had uh a uh supplier of uh agricultural well garden products and um uh we had uh uh an astrologer uh uh there and a bunch of other so we had six vendors uh we had um three acts uh the main act was uh actually we started out with a small uh band and you can see the band over the bottom right there it's a griff is uh quite a well-known character in ann arbor and he has has a band of three and they they've been playing music for decades and uh so they they were kind of the background and and they kind of launched things and then we had uh kip barry who's a nationally known musician who lives in ann arbor but has a a big center in uh cabaret center and across from disneyland in anaheim he goes there every other week but he lives here and he was very kind uh and and and happy to to do uh do do part of his act for us and then uh stacy murray who's who's actually quite a well-known songstress and soul singer who had who won the detroit soul award uh 2019 so she's uh she's quite a quite an extraordinary talent and so we had a really uh good entertainment for folks we also had uh the as i have mentioned before i think or was shown in the publicity material treestown murals who do a lot of murals around town and they came and showed us how to do murals and also work with the kids who came and to do chalk drawings and and street art on the site which was really quite fun and i'll show you some examples of that we'll or just a bit of an example in the next next slide we got uh articles an article from ryan stanton over at m lights some people some of you know uh ryan he's a journalist and and uh covers a lot of these kind of things and uh he said some very nice things about the event uh but this was before the actual event uh and uh it's written up i can share provide people with a link if you want to get read his article he was he interviewed folks and and wrote something very nice about fan and about the commons and what we're doing um we also got an announcement on wemu and they they announced what we were doing and um we also did a a brief street service a survey uh five questions those will be made available allen will speak to that uh of about 20 or 30 people so we began the process of of trying to get some feedback on our event and also one or two questions on the sort of broader story we had attendees of all ages which was great we had kids we had quite a few students from u of m and clearly a number of other places we had older folks and we had middle-aged folks and you know it was a nice mix of of of the population and of course the weather gods were kind as i said they they actually during that four hour period there was essentially no rain and there was sort of rain before and there was overcast and rain afterwards but somehow the weather god said we want fan to happen so they they let the uh they let the weather be okay okay so next slide here so here you can see uh the kids doing some uh chalk drawing and stuff that's down on the on the left hand side under the guidance of treetown murals and you can see people kind of milling around and going and looking at the different uh vendors and i thought it was kind of cute and appropriate that we had that community commons little a write-up or drawing by a kid on the concrete just to give you a feel and there you can see kip performing uh in front of his audience we had uh also um like i said we had some jewelers and so uh actually stacy had a booth along with being a performer and she's she's uh showing off her wears there they're really beautiful jewelry look made made by herself and with her partner and so i'd like to just reflect on uh the experience and to tell you some lessons we felt we we learned from from this experience the first is we we really needed maybe a little more or a fuller program and more media exposure we didn't we you know this is an experiment a learning experience for a lot of us i'm not a natural i mean i maybe my my personality is somewhat impresario like but i'm not you know skilled and trained in in setting up the or running these kind of operations so it was a learning experience for me unfortunately i had dana queen to help me who was kind of doing it uh more more full-time than me but we we definitely need to flesh out our program a bit and and be more conscious of getting to the media earlier we were a little late off getting to the media um we should also have more kids activities and better staging so the the the the program went well but it could have been more professionally uh organized it could have uh it could have been uh there were some some periods some lull periods there that could have been filled with with programming and uh just could could have been more effective and more efficient than than i was able to put together and of course kid activities it's great to do chalk and so forth drawings but there may be some other things that we could be doing with the kids that would be helpful on the food side we had some challenges i had a food truck finally it was really hard to get a food truck uh because uh for some reason either they've gone out of business or they're booked up everywhere and so in in the future you know if we're gonna have food trucks i need to get a relationship going with a food truck company or two and book them well in advance of course there was the whole issue of whether we should have food trucks at all on the site because of controversy about that with certain people but you know um as alan will will tell you in the survey people really missed having food on location we did bring some food to the event uh some baked goods and so forth but that really wasn't what people were you know some people like that but they were looking for food truck kind of food and of course we were not able to get local restaurants which we solicited uh and including block partners because they're all understaffed so it makes it a real dilemma for us to if we don't you know if people don't want us to have food trucks and we can't get you know local food uh vendors because they're because they're under staff we're in we're in a difficult situation so more perhaps about that later um i think our survey was fine but it needs to be strengthened we need to to to we needed to get it going earlier we didn't start till later in the event and we had the five questions but and we'll see how those turned out or alan will talk about it but we could do probably do things a little bit more professionally and i i i i would like to consult with members of the council the comments on that who i know have some experience in this uh so i recognize our limited experience but i think it's important to get feedback and we got some very good and interesting feedback above all i think it's important always to listen educate and learn from participants so we learned a lot from talking to participants about what they want what they're interested in just talking to them and we need to do more of that we didn't do quite as much as we should have we also in future i think uh need to educate people about what this is all about because it quite a few people sort of understood but they didn't really and i think a more of a dialogue with the participants would enhance you know our message to the community and enhance their understanding of what this is what what the commons is all about what the center of the city is all about and what we're you know the divergent views about what what what's possible and so forth um we need to recruit you know sponsors and uh and vendors earlier like i said sponsors also we had some sponsors we had holidays uh holidays restaurant who who who put some money up and they're gonna put some food out for us next time uh they're a pretty well-known restaurant in town and and of course adam was very kind in in sponsoring us as well with his uh his scooter company and uh obviously the the council of the uh the uh library green conservancy and the uh um initiating committee uh were sponsors as well uh we need to deploy more volunteers to count and observe what's going on we we didn't have enough of that going on checking out what what how people were doing and and and figuring out you know more precisely how many people were there and what the breakdown was and so forth better sign and poster posting would be great i think we did a pretty good job but we need to do a better job and fi finally the library actually did help us they provided some equipment uh we didn't have to use it in the end because the musicians brought their own but they were very helpful the the staff at the lower levels uh you know turned uh turned things over and and they really you know searched out stuff that would help us like microphones and and uh amplifiers and cabling and they were they were ready to help in whatever way they they they could and i think we need to further engage the library in our activities since they're our next-door neighbor okay and so here's uh the finale uh this is the kind of the team that was involved in in kind of making this come together and uh of course the garden was always a draw and we talked a little bit with folks about that all in all it was a really you know very fine experience good experience i think people enjoyed it as alan will probably speak to and i'm very grateful for the people who came and uh thank you uh for listening to me as i say the the the presentation that will be available is available that's all i got adam thank you jeff i think that was uh it's wonderful i uh ended up obviously not being able to make it because i get really sick over the weekend so i apologize but uh glad you're glad to see the pictures um any questions at all for jeff before we get into the survey oh frank and rita both have their hands up i don't know who's first uh frank you want to go just uh an observation i i i found it it was just uh exhilarating to be there you know we've talked for weeks and months uh about uh beginning to activate the the site and uh it was just great to see um this come to fruition uh uh i stood out in front of the library and kind of hailed people from from there over towards the site but in fact people were were on their way uh to the fan event and weren't necessarily stopping at the library i i would just uh encourage everybody from the council the comments to uh put it on their schedule to attend this uh second event i guess it's november 7th uh at least that's the the tentative date uh for our second fan event um and we we can act as you know informal uh ambassadors uh um engage with people i think we'll we'll individually learn a lot and collectively we can share uh those conversations and and uh interactions with the the public i i just uh it would it just it was a wonderful uh event in in the sense that uh we're finally uh activating the site uh as we think we we've intended all along for it to be used uh rita and erica thanks frank thanks um i just want to say i was um there as a participant and vendor for a non-profit called ann arbor for public power a community-owned utility organization or going to be talking further about that but as a vendor i just want to say that it was very easy to set up and access the location and well organized so i want to give compliments to um jeff and dana queen on their actions that way and i would say that the the feel of the event was probably really what i would like to have established in the long run it was low-key it was warm it was welcoming um and it was very easy to talk with people so um that was that's those are my impressions and um i'd say that this was a success in its low-key way thanks freda uh erica and then alan i think yeah thanks um i uh it was fun to to see the activity um and um congratulations i know it's a lot of work to put on events like that so um you're good and reflecting on what you could do better next time but um definitely a strong start i think um in i just wanted to get a little feedback in terms of food trucks i i think it's important to note the difference between a non-profit um and uh organizing an event downtown you'll notice that i mean there are certainly many events that organize downtown and some of them bring in um food trucks and i think that's a different relationship um regard then sort of the resolution that the commission put forward asking the city to permanent on a regular basis activate food trucks on the site and so i've had um more conversations with main street association on that and so you know we can talk about that more later but um i think it is it's different i in terms of what maybe the feedback might be on something like that but i think it's worth being being aware that um yeah downtown downtown businesses are struggling and that's why there's there was some feedback on that um but i'm not sure it's the same concerns when it's a event here and there throughout the downtown thank you before alan says something i'd just like to say uh a shout out to erica because erica was there and spent quite a quite a while there and i really appreciate her presence thank you very much erica you were your support was very much appreciated alan yeah well uh you've all gotten attached to the minutes the uh the responses to the questions on our survey and i won't try and summarize them but i hope you will read through them because in aggregate they give a sense of the interest the warmth the the way people felt very happy and liking what went on and there was some interesting ideas to add into the uh into the pot um people wanted more kids activities the the kids there were very it gave a very positive nice feel and many people said i wish i had brought my kids and the music was definitely outstanding and that is an important part of some kind of event of this sort and stacy murray who's uh won the jazz singer of detroit annual award a couple years ago just you know uh blasted it out come together heather will send it to you a minute and 36 seconds have come together and it'll give you a really nice feel of the positive energy that was all around the place a lot of people musicians felt there could be more sense of how do we jam together dance together it was a much more multicultural multi-racial than most things that i have experienced some old civil rights activists were there quite a number of african-americans a good feeling of this was this was an inclusive feeling of warmth and uh happiness this was going on we had a question do you know what the commons is and many people said yes and fewer people said no and one person i thought the best was now i yes now i do and it was really a sense that coming into this experience it was a manifestation of what the commons is of welcoming friendly uh happy and definitely the sun showing shown on the event i hope you will read the uh the uh comments on the uh survey uh hardly uh uh comprehensive but that's what people said i didn't edit to edit anything out and we had a we had a very good educational opening event and i think we learned much for how to do it uh better next time and i think the cross class element was very uh important somebody suggested that we should have a soapbox with a webcam on it so anybody can get up and say what they have on their mind for five minutes and let it be broadcast all over seemed like a neat idea somebody said we should have a uh a fire pit and a council fire and uh if that could be safe but uh people were beginning to get there let their imaginations uh loose as to how to make this even happier for their own particular tastes so that that's what i want to say on on the fan event i would like to uh is was commented the week before i was involved in the peace week and you got a uh when that was happening and subsequently on the minutes an outline of that and it had it gave several things i'd like to comment on that we need a a facility there that is an educational space on the commons and the peace week was very good with our uh decade but they're also their need we need to make arrangements with the dda for storage of stuff chairs and tables and so on it is a hassle to have to put things away at night and drive them away there should be a a facility that really allows events to easily to take place so that's something that needs to be on our agenda and perhaps when we come later on to talk about the our block partners and our relation with the dda that that question can be raised again it was very positive i thought to have the place open for people just to pass through for a week and not have any cars that should be the general state of affairs there as it was intended so those are my uh my comments on activating the commons i think we were getting some momentum in that direction and if everyone would put their thinking caps on as how to make november 7th that's the first sunday in november even more interesting and you know you know please do it is a commenting event and i think we could all you know have a good time doing it more together than uh than the smaller group that did it and did it in a very good way and everybody who participated felt like they were were part of part of a collective effort that was very rewarding satisfying the music was great just one quick uh addendum to that um what was interesting uh the university of michigan students that came and the clery students uh both said jesus i had no idea what you guys were doing we're going to we're going to bring truckloads of our friends next time and in fact some of the administrators in touch with me from both institutions we're going to have buses with students to come down well i'm glad the event went very well and it's also good to have the update on peace week allen any questions at all before we move into discussion on block partners all right well with that we'll uh we'll open up the discussion i know you know ellen did bring up the point about the dda but i know that we've had this item on the agenda um uh at least on a preliminary agenda for a little while here um to talk about how we want to engage uh the block partners and what the formal process will be for doing that so i don't want to open it up i i think we probably want to establish what uh our goals are going to be for any external discussions and you know uh see see where folks would like to go um you know i think i think this speaks to the some of the long-term planning items that are maybe on the agenda i i i'd like to open up and see where folks would like to go with regard to gathering input from block partners ellen i can't hear you huh alan could you imagine yourself yeah i hope i wasn't muted all the time i was talking uh we need to establish a better a better relationship with the library especially in their time of transition as they are determining their new vision and new leadership we the commons and the center of the city which is their near neighbor should really be as is sitting as close to the table with them as we can i'm particularly interested in continuing the conversations that we've had with mike martin and darren mckinnon from the first martin corporation also including john teeter who is their staff person that looks over liberty plaza yeah they've sort of adopted liberty plaza but their their property and their expansion their vision of their property is so it intersects with what is possible and uh and with high aspirations as to what we might be doing so i'm very i've had conversations with them over the years i think that we should really continue that conversation and uh they've also indicated an interest in uh having the city assume uh ownership in some trading way of the carriage house and the noble house and the noble house could be a very great asset to liberty plaza in terms of having a social service center and at least the accessible ground floor so there are many possibilities with those two partners in particular and i think we should get some teams of us to pursue those discussions and probably to see who is everybody on the block um the owners of the buildings the residents the uh the residents of the condo there and send out an invitational message that ultimately we see some block a group formed which was the original recommendation in city council directive but inviting their thoughts and their involvement and even their you know participation attending our next meeting giving their own public comment and hearing what people have to say who are the running the restaurants and the guitar place and and so on and i think also you know we don't the the ace the transit is across the street yeah but is very much involved in what we are doing and impacting us and i think the same as the planning group that is working on the y lot we should consider them also as a block partner because the buildings that are going up there should in some sense have a consciousness and an input into what we are doing because we are the we are their front porch in a way in their green space which will be very much needed for that new housing real quick just a clarification by the way i uh accidentally missed the comparable communities update so if it's okay with folks we'll keep going to the blog partners and then come back to that right afterwards um i apologize i scrolled too far down on the agenda um ellen uh i think that you've identified a few of them i think that there would be uh i know one item i'd like to see is if we before any reach-outs are happening we establish a process for how that's going to work and to who and and similar to how we're doing with comparable communities we um we um do a lot of pre-work so that would just be my thoughts in response to one of a lot of the suggestions you made erica's got her hand up though so i'll turn over her ex yeah thanks um so in my uh sort of um informal conversations with different uh block partners and um uh downtown partners the the feedback that i'm getting is that uh although this is obviously the priority of this commission um sort of the the development of the the center of the city other folks have a lot a lot on their plate um we are still in the pandemic the downtown is is still struggling mightily um and it is really challenging for folks to make time to to do something like just attend one of our commission meetings to kind of generally speak about this subject i think it would be a much more i think we need to honor the time of of our partners and recognize that at least in terms of feedback i'm getting that it would be useful to think members would likely like like to respond and provide reactions when there is there are tangible things to react to i think we if we had maybe done that with the um the proposal that we went to council last resolution was going to go to council if we had engaged folks at that point we might have gotten some feedback before before it hit the council table and maybe come to a different decision but i think there are times that it might be useful to engage folks but that we might want to think about really doing it strategically and really um honoring their time i also um spoke with um the was trying to meet actually the with jim the president of the library board today and he actually had to counsel um cancel uh because um things are busy on his end work wise but also the library's really swamped um they are in the process of of trying to hire a new um director for the library and that's going to be their focus moving forward and so i'm just another reminder that um that folks are going to you know some of the some folks are are thinking about other things as well other other questions or suggestions about uh black partner engagement frank has his hand up there oh sorry frank and sarah i miss both you frank go ahead well uh i think i'm yeah i'm unmuted um i'm wondering if uh we the council uh need to take some steps to in terms of longer or intermediate or longer term planning uh and and uh and development work um that we've talked about at previous meetings to to get that process going we do have some some funding available uh to move that forward and i think if we begin that process and i'd be interested in sarah's comments and uh erica and alice too uh so that we have something to engage them about at least in the early stages and as we move along because their i think the block partners input as that planning process begins to unfold will be absolutely critical and so that's my thought thanks i had a lot of thoughts about this a couple weeks ago and now i'd like they've just like completely left my head um but i i think i i guess i don't fully know like the whole back story with engaging the block partners i know it was um uh it came out of the task force report they need to be involved erica that was really helpful to know that you know you've been having conversations with them and like a good reminder too i think that like people are just struggling with a lot of different things right now so certainly coming to a meeting like this to present to us probably doesn't make the most sense i guess i'm wondering for any of you um that might have i mean erica maybe you i don't know heather if you've been thinking about this from like a staff perspective but like would there be appetite from any of the black partners for like more one-on-one meaning i mean i think it would be helpful and maybe for i guess i'm thinking like like offering up myself like i would be happy to be involved in this process as somebody that like is newer to the council of the commons sort of also has that like real estate perspective um i'm just trying to like understand from them like what are their longer term plans going forward i mean i think frank your idea is a good one but i almost also think we need to understand some things from these people like i'm hearing these things of like well the library might want to move to the spot or like first martin might want to expand their building and like maybe they would swap this land because i feel like there are a lot of moving pieces that we need to understand before we can get any sort of like plan done so i wouldn't want to like make a plan and then have a blog partner be like no like because we're going to do this thing to our property and just completely mess this up i'm not totally positive like the exact right way to get from like a to z but i'm wondering if we start like a very small group um just trying to have those like casual informal conversations like on their terms um that might be a way to start like opening again like i have no idea like what the conversation flow has been like either previously or recently um but that's sort of like like i do think we need to engage them i think they're incredibly important to the success of this effort and i i guess i'm not 100 positive the right way to do it but i feel like it needs to just be like one or two people sort of designated to go and like have these initial conversations and i saw a lot of hands go up so i stopped talking for a little bit thanks sarah jennifer then allison erica i i sarah i don't i don't know how to piggyback on that without just not making any sense other than to say i know like how do we simplify it is it asking for people who are extremely busy and you know just trying to run their day to day whether or not they're short staffed or you know trying to figure out do they open during lunch i mean these are these are real concerns for businesses downtown and then to ask them to give more of their time is there a way to do um a survey and just even ask the black partners for some initial feedback um i i don't i don't know that asking them for individual meetings or one-on-ones like i don't i don't know that that's necessarily the right route i don't know the right answer um but i agree with you that it's a complex problem that probably we need their input and i i guess i just want to go on record just saying i i'm uncomfortable with somebody saying i talked to someone so when i heard this and this was the feedback like i'm just uncomfortable with that like i think we need to hear from them directly in a way that is recorded and put into some sort of notes where it's not some sidebar conversation or something that is not um that we're asking the very specific questions to inform our decisions um i'm very uncomfortable with that and then i think this the second thing is i'm uncomfortable on the flip side with let's just throw stuff at them and see what they react to like that feels like an incredibly terrible it doesn't feel like the most respectful way to approach this in terms of you're our partner tell us what you think we're going to tell you what you should think or what we want for you to react to that doesn't feel like the right thing either so um if we could even just have we ever surveyed them like just this group of surrounding neighbors to ask them specifically a group of questions that they could react to um about usage about you know what would increase their satisfaction with the space you know i think that there's probably a way to solicit their feedback at a very base level that's a step above where we are now thanks jen uh alice then erica then allen yeah um occasionally i come across um an idea that i think that i think oh gee if we could just have that here and one of those ideas recently was uh i was doing some research it's one of those serendipitous things i ran across a site for an organization that um belong to i believe i'd have to go back and figure this out but it's just a an example of the kind of thing we need to offer to people or to ask them about hey is this of interest to you because it sounds kind of interesting can you give us your perspective because we can't always be going asking for them to do something for us we have to figure out how what we do can be of value to them and the only way we can do that is to figure out what their values are and what this library thing was an association of libraries who had partnered with their local civic organizations uh mainly the city governments or the whatever group would support them in doing this in hiring a library social worker because uh i don't know any how many years i've heard josie parker and sometimes other staff talk about how they've become a center for solving problems or maybe resisting problems i don't know with people who who need a place who need some services but end up prevailing on library staff and library spaces and this isn't always a very good situation so you know i don't know why i had to look elsewhere to see this kind of thing going on because it sounds perfect for ann arbor you know we have a school of social work here and um but there are library library social workers out there they actually have this job so that's one example we can't say hey why don't you do this here but we need to find out okay this is a problem for you what besides calling the police can we can we do that would be more beneficial to the parties involved and more beneficial to everything else we want to go around so that's just one example of the kinds of things i've been running across which make us i think make us look more like partners rather than leaders you know please help us do this what can what can you do to help us do this yeah and so if we can be more like partners ourselves i think that might be one way to look at it all right thanks alice uh erica then alan and rita yeah um i think you're absolutely right sarah in terms of you know we don't necessarily just want to um throw something at the block partners and say hey what do you think and bring him in at the end of the process but i might i guess my thought is in terms of some of the feedback and getting this you know just being strategic about when we engage them um i would think that a role a way that would be real beneficial um really beneficial for us to engage them and and get their feedback in a meaningful way is one of the reasons i'm so excited to get started on the design process at some point is you know once we get that rfp out there and have a firm contracted we can easily then have stakeholder engagement um and that's a big part of design right is that we would have we would engage the um block partners in you know early in the process and you know multiple times in the process saying okay you know what are you you know getting their feedback at the beginning of the process giving their feedback um later on in the design process and i think that could be a way that would be facilitated um in a meaningful way and that their feedback would be captured and utilized effectively so um that's how i can imagine in the near term um getting information and there may be certainly other ways to to engage with them but maybe there are a few a few key entities that we might want to have come in and provide some some sense to us about what their their future thoughts are around development on the block but at least from the you know my conversations with the library they are pretty they're pretty occupied right now with their own own issues uh thanks erica alan and then rita and frank yeah i uh i think each of the different uh potential partners has has its own uh character uh during peace week a woman pat flower came to park on the commons and i said well we were having peace week here and she said oh i shouldn't park i said you're very welcome and she was going to she's part of the historic district oversight of the kemp house and i told her what we were doing and she said this is all very interesting and very relevant to our thanking and it seems like we should be tuned in to when the camp house has their meetings and somebody should go and attend and simply tell them what we are doing and invite and learn more of what they are doing and make a channel of communication you know the uh in relation to the library you know i think we need to attend to what is going on there but as for a social worker uh i had had numerous conversations with the school of social work with which i used to be connected as to whether there was a faculty person who would supervise a student social work placement on the library lot and uh and in liberty plaza that there actually be somebody there who is attentive to their problems and learning the situation that we didn't find anybody as yet but i think that is part of the approach to uh having more eyes on the place and a helpful service-oriented capacity i'm particularly interested though in the dda and in the question of the agenda i propose that we adopt a statement to get sent to the dda that we request as our as a city board and commission to have a voice in that agenda item as to what is going on in the council of the commons comparable to what the downtown citizens advisory commission uh has and we have in the 36 months since this land was declared as to be developed in perpetuity as a central park and civic center as a commons the dda has not had one public discussion to recognize that has happened we need to become part of their process and be recognized so i'd like to move that particularly i want to see us promote and reinforce that the parking they should see how to remove the parking they are now in the process of finding a new parking operator they have nine corporations that are vying with republic parking to undertake their parking contract which expires next june and they need to have some sense that they are cooperating and co-existing with a development in the center of their authority area that so far they have not recognized i would like us to have a regular position such as the downtown citizens advisory committee to report monthly at their meeting as to what is going on here might be a little report it might be a big report but we should be in their picture and so far for whatever reasons they have not allowed this question on their agenda in 36 months ellen before you make that that formal motion on something here i'd like to see if we can let others comment and finish out the comments so we can finish out a discussion here if you don't mind oh i don't know all right thanks uh i think it was rita and then frank if i recall correctly um thanks i um just want to say that from my perspective the engaging with the black partners i would like to see it as being something that we hear from them some things that they think they could gain from us in in terms of value and i don't have any characterizing way to describe that but um what we want is to enhance the area i believe um and i think that that earlier someone mentioned something about structure um in terms of what we would present i think that would be good um and so that's that's kind of really where where my thoughts are right now that's all i want to say thanks rita frank um i i want to kind of hearken back and really playing off something rita just said now uh sarah i i i view you as our expert your urban planning background the the conversations we had when we were walking the site about the economic value to what we're trying to create to the business community um commercial residential etc um so i and i think you made an offer or you know maybe 10 minutes ago and i don't want to i don't want to pass that up and i'm not quite sure what the offer was but uh i would like to you know maybe offline or whatever yeah talk a little bit further about your idea of a role you might be able to play in others uh and then about the library i i think this is and i understand uh at some level uh probably not the level when where the rubber hits the road uh the stress and strain that all uh activities in the downtown are experiencing but this is the moment i think where in a constructive way groups like ourselves and others in the community need to engage with the library as they go about the process of selecting new leadership and i assume that there will be a process where the public can be involved in that in a organized way and i just think rather than pulling back i think we should look for constructive ways to engage while while this important decision is being made about future leadership all right unless you've got your hand up uh and i'd like to make a comment too at some point here uh else go ahead you're muted else i think um just following up on frank a little bit um that muting and unmuting just makes me spin around um but if we could go uh years ago when in fact what led me to run for city council or maybe you know which came first the decision to run or to or this whole i spent about a year and a half going to dda committee meetings going to the library board meeting going to all these different meetings and simply listening and i got to be so annoying i guess to the dda at that time they you know i would show up it's a public you know it's available to the public nobody says it's it's private and i'd show up and i just you know take a seat and listen and i think we don't do enough listening i think we go too much too often with an ask and one way we can know a little bit more about these blog partners is go and listen to their boards go and listen to what they talk about and understand what they're facing um even i don't know you know it's a private group i guess the main street area association but what would we learn if we heard if we heard directly from them talking about their situations maybe that's one thing we should do just occasionally drop in on a meeting especially the library board as they decide what they're going to do with for their leadership the dda what they're going to do for a new executive director and we have a new city administrator coming in i mean the stars are i don't know whether it's aligning or misaligning but all of this leadership change is pretty interesting and seems to present an opportunity that we don't want to blow up we want to learn as they go through what they're going through and maybe be able to participate in some way should they ask us to yeah also i think that's a really good really good point i i uh too agree that i think there are a lot of um this this period as we're hopefully coming out of covet but certainly what covett has done i think has rocked a lot of standard norms for uh organizing organizations and uh for for um just the normal way of doing things and so i do i do feel like it has create it's created a period of thought where maybe we can change things for the better in a lot of ways i i we talk about this a lot in my day job too and so uh i agree with that sentiment um you know listening to everybody's uh comments here i certainly um i feel like one of the things that i've learned in this uh subcommittee that we've been uh having meetings with uh is that um with a lot of good uh planning and good questions by people you can get to um what i hope will be a really productive first discussion uh tomorrow um i almost think that that model maybe lends itself uh some um some things for for this uh outreach too and so you know i feel like um i don't know that we want that same subcommittee i almost want to ask sarah if she'd be interested in sharing this other subcommittee on on uh you know potentially the same type of uh research but but maybe in a little different way and and it being totally local um but i feel like we've we've learned a lot in the just the discussions we've had to create um to create this outreach effort for the other uh uh community comparisons i just feel like there's a lot that we can apply from that learning experience to to this and i realize that not everybody has participated in that we're going to get into that in a few minutes i think um but you know from frank and rita and alice and heather and myself and sarah i don't know i just learned a lot already without even getting the nuts and bolts of what's going on in their communities so i just want to throw that out there i do think that we've had some uh really productive discussions there and maybe that's the type of approach we can apply um i like that comparison i really i i hadn't linked that up until you mentioned it but i think that might be a a good model um to to prepare ourselves for whatever engagement we decide on with the partners i think some some you know as we say bench research uh let's think through the questions uh i think we'd be better prepared we'd understand better how to approach this so that that's a nice link up thank you what a good segue adam so real quick before we leave this topic i think that maybe that's just me maybe that we get some feedback on the idea of of um having a smaller group of folks a subset of this group get involved in [Music] in preparation for outreach uh well maybe maybe that's my suggestion uh for um downtown partners you know maybe not just block but beyond the block i think that to the point that have been made by a lot of folks here everybody is wants to be concerned that the that any uh outreach efforts are valuable by both parties myself i put myself in that camp that i'd want to make sure that the outreach is uh is really done in a way that uh that creates and adds value but i do think to sarah's original point at the start of this conversation i don't know how we can start planning something and frankly i would find a little offensive if i was a block partner uh for somebody to come in and tell me that well we're gonna do this and um you know what do you think without asking for some input first and so i i think it's a it would be it would behoove us to be a good partner uh to try and figure out how to collect some uh research in a way that is productive that's just my own opinion so i don't know jen you've got your hand up i'm sorry no i i raised it in response to your comment um let me take it down before i forget um i hear like we should have these plans that we these designs and this these things that we put out for comment and then i also hear this strong desire to solicit feedback to inform that and i feel like we go in this circle and i feel like we go on the circle on things and i don't know what the right approach is but i i guess i would err in favor of finding some way that is respectful of business owner and community partners time to um solicit their feedback and involve them in the process right like if this is something that um alan has so wonderfully encouraged um you know thought around commenting and what does that mean this it almost feels antithetical to go to them with this fully baked plan and here are some drawings or hear some designs and react to them and give your opinion it just it doesn't feel it doesn't feel it feels wrong in a way um but i guess it kind of goes back to my my comment a few minutes ago in terms of um how do how do we solicit their feedback how do we get their um opinion and their buy-in so that it is truly a community um it's reflective of what the community wants and needs including you know those who are in business and those who are our neighbors that's that's what this is all about right um so that's hat tip to allen for getting me to thinking that way in a very meaningful way but it just brought i think a little bit of a pause in this conversation for me in terms of thinking all right i agree with that jeff you've got your hand up yeah i just wanted to say that in my experience the the process of um developing models of possibilities and engaging people you know is sort of interdependent and you know at the end of the day what we're all about is trying to build community and and you build community or a closer community than we than we have at the moment you you tend to build community by engaging with each other in an exploratory process in a research process uh in a discovery process in an adventure in a you know in a in a what would be the word um you know a quest you know uh and so we're kind of on a quest to discover a new kind of community for our city or to make our city better uh by developing new kinds of community and you know engaging people in that process uh builds commitment and also builds understanding and it also uh people when when they start this if it's properly organized don't mind carving out time to do that because we all are looking for some meaning in our lives and we all care about community and want community to be better and i don't think that the the block partners and other folks um out there are necessarily going to be uh reacting negatively as long as it's framed in a way that is an exploratory process where they get some idea of you know what our longer term goals are and um and they see it as a as a joint exploration towards building community i think if we can get that message put across you know we'll find the way we'll find the way to work together we'll find a way to engage their time productively that's just sort of a general statement thanks thanks jeff uh sarah uh jeff you calling it exploratory and discovery presence resonated a lot i think that's exactly how i've been trying to think of this is like bringing them in first identifying these black partners so adam i really liked what you were saying making those connections between sort of what we've been doing on the other subcommittee did i get muted accidentally yes sorry um we would sort of do that that bench research and come up with like the list of partners that we want to initially engage and like kind of go through like some of the backstory in the history before we just like go at people i assume adam that's sort of what you were thinking um yeah but i think like having those types of like discovery conversations with partners that want to engage with us like that's sort of how i was envisioning this going because i mean even if they were they were talked to or brought into conversations as part as the part of the um whatever came before this council of the commons that i have the name i'm blanking on that was a long time ago at this point and things have changed dramatically um so i think it's worth like reviving those conversations in ways that are comfortable for the black partners and for this group so i think thinking of it in terms of like that sort of discovery and exploration to me makes a lot of sense and i would hope um that these partners would want to engage with us because i really do think that like if this this whole the public spaces on this block are created like in a way that i think all of us hope that they are this it should be beneficial for you know not just this block but like well beyond but actually financially valuable for a lot of the people that own property on this block um so i think that there's a lot of there's a lot of like mutual interest in getting this right and so i would hope that people would want to start having these conversations with us and i think that after these initial conversations you know we can engage them however make sense in like starting the design process as well but i don't know to me i think those like initial exploratory conversations would be really useful with whoever wants to have those with us thanks sarah alan and then frank you're muted alan on your muted unmuted here i am again you know exploratory conversations yes we're there with everybody as we go along uh as i said with meeting uh pat flower from the uh camp house come come to our meeting tell us what you're doing let's talk let's see let's learn from each other and so we just have to begin the conversation uh the question with the dda is a little more formalized because they have a specific authority on what we are doing and they are exercising their authority by ignoring their capacity to be helpful and we should have a place like a board of commission on their agenda so we begin in a formal way to have a communication that can be expanded in many informal ways but the continued non-recognition of the center of the city on the group that has a downtown authority in the center of the city is not it should not be acceptable we should just ask can we be a a commission that would report monthly as to how we are doing and that would certainly stimulate further conversation and might find us a way to see how in the affordable housing and economic development uh partner group that we might have something to learn from what they are doing uh i attend i attend their meetings i know what's going on but they they have blocked consideration of what is happening in this area from their agenda and maura thompson well friendly in one way is basically not helpful in providing services that could easily provided in terms of storage and they have an obligation directed by the city council to terminate service parking and they do it when the garden is happening they did it when we had a specific activity for peace week uh but that should be on their in their consideration particularly as they're now talking about switching their uh their parking operator so that specific proposal that we ask to be a city commission on their agenda in their end in their monthly meeting i think we should pursue that's not to say that we shouldn't have conversation with maura and other dda members and learn what their other interests are and so on and similarly with the library and similarly with jerusalem garden and with the denali building residents and with the martin company but formally we should have a relation with the downtown development authority such as other city boards and commissions are built into their formal organizational process so alan real quick here i do want to i want to be conscious of uh the fact i think it's probably counterproductive to to kind of go after the dea like that a little bit so i think it would be i i understand your frustration on this um but i think that there's been a lot of really good conversation here about trying to engage the lock partners in a really constructive way and i i just ask if we can keep the conversation going on that because i think we're making some progress i understand uh or i hear you on your frustration regarding the dda but i do i feel like we've talked about and maybe arrived at a way to try and reach out to a lot of the block partners or at least establish a team of folks to engage in that and i just feel like um that's really productive and and maybe the direction the frustration uh can be channeled in a more productive way that's the only thing i had to ask um i think alice and uh frank uh i don't know um who had their hand up first i apologize [Music] you're uh i'll i'll go um um i uh i echo your request there adam um because um it's exactly it's sort of there are a lot of metaphors you know why beat your head against the brick wall when you when the same thing happens over and over again um but i was thinking of another example that was sort of surprising to me a while back with the greenway and now called a tree line so there was this i remembering a word from the 70s synchronicity um when uh jerry forgotten his last name clark maybe was working on flood mitigation plans and um the greenway was trying to figure out how to connect to the b2b tray trail how to make that more fundable that kind of thing and then what happened was we got a tunnel underneath the railroad it took probably eight years to get that to happen and it wasn't by pushing and it wasn't by weedling or insisting it was by going to meetings talking with people offline being community members really and and supporting one thing because it fit in with some with other plans and not going in with my priority is most important and yet there were several different angles on it and you could listen to those two other people you know they were i can almost remember the names of people who would consistently be at the same meetings and once once that is witnessed it has a sort of a multiplier effect an exponential growth where you know if you can avoid being seen as the annoyance if you can be seen as the supporter and the listener uh all of a sudden conversations are started not by you not by not by me but by by the sheer existence of a community that's developed around an issue or an idea so that's that's kind of what i wanted to talk about because that's physical evidence of something big that happened but it took a lot of wheels turning for many years and sometimes the gears mess meshed and sometimes they didn't but eventually it did happen and i think that's kind of a good lesson in persistence as well as participation frank i think you're uh you're up next okay alice i'm glad you went first uh because i i was i wanna add on to an example uh both what you've just said and what sarah said earlier in my fundraising experience at the university over 30 years you you want to engage in that case a prospective donor you want to you want to do the listening you don't want to do a lot of talking uh you want to engage people hear them out find out what what's important to them you know what's their passion what's been important in terms of in that case the business school their business life and how did that how does that mesh up with what the business school is trying to do so it's it's finding linkages finding common ground and uh i just think it's it's important uh what happens at the end of the day is that the people and organizations you engage begin to take a stake in a shared vision of and these conversations uh i think uh are an important way to get us uh into that process uh and there's a formal uh you know development design process that that will begin to capture this and that's i think what eric has been so helpful with in terms of funding but um i just saw this analogy from my my fundraising life and uh wanted to just share that thanks frank uh and then jeff yeah i just wanted to add to that and just say briefly you know the old academic uh there is actually a discipline that covers this and you guys are describing what the ideo folks and stanford design school call design thinking and and some of you are probably familiar with that term but that's exactly what design thinking is all about it's uh and it's what steve jobs did to come up with his beautiful designs all the rest of it you start out with empathizing with the people that you're trying to work with and listening to them and understanding their issues and getting inside them a little bit understanding how they see the world and you begin to identify what what problems they're trying to solve and what issues they have and then you are able to formulate an in a disciplined process there's a whole process for doing this people teach design thinking i do myself uh and then you you you go to the a set of design possibilities or alternatives that reflect that experience that that ethnographic if you like um empathy ethnographic you know understanding of the other and then you have these different possible options for addressing the issues and challenges that people face and then you run a series of experiments to test out which one of these options makes some sense and you get feedback as a result of doing that and it's a continuous process and it's not sequential but and and and you gather data and then you you adapt or you move to maybe a different option because the particular experiment didn't work out very well or there was a better way to do things and you arrive at then some kind of end product that everybody has been involved with but it's a highly it's a highly disciplined process and i think it's well worth people uh taking the time to look at how design thinking you know works and essentially what what's being described here is that and i'm happy to uh maybe uh at some point discuss that a little bit with folks or send out some material on it so so i'm gonna make a suggestion hopefully uh to take us to kind of a next step on this item you know us sarah since you so nicely volunteered uh i think maybe we want to take you up on your offer to try and um you know i think about what you think if it's a smaller group of folks who are interested or what what you think would be best uh to try and um start a process for engagement and then maybe we can invite others kind of like we did with the with the um other subcommittee into that process are you okay with doing that are you willing to do that yeah but so wait what is what are you thinking the first step is i mean i think last the left with the last one did we have people like say that they wanted to be involved in myself into that process yes i'm hoping you inserted yourself and uh and if others would like to join i think that would be great too um i'd be happy if if if you were willing to to to take me on to help out if you were interested this is i'd be happy to balance out both of your smarts so so that's four right there so that's uh all right and then we can always you know others i was sarah jeff jenn oh erica and alan sorry and then we can always add folks you know as as folks would like but um maybe that'll get us started on a process what's the number where you don't have to notice the meetings i think you're at it it's five yeah five is it um right now about whether subcommittees need to actually be formally noticed that we're trying to sort out internally now i don't i think uh our our uh enabling ordinance or what do you ever you call that i think that we're allowed anything under a quorum um any number of committees any number and as long as they are not more than a quorum not not up to a quorum um so well there's an internal discussion at net right now about that interpretation of that whether subcommittees need to actually be noticed or not so i'll keep you tuned on that and if there's a difference between working groups and subcommittees right now the group that's doing the exploration i would consider a working group it's not really well i'd say i think we should use the right term that allows us to do what we want to do and it is all of those guidelines but yeah so at the baseline keep it under quorum but i even had a question about how we're going about this my understanding is that so far we mostly have done zoom meetings with other people have we done any in-person meetings um with i mean the communities explorations were those all zooms actually we haven't done any of them yet um so that's why don't we transition to that real quick uh and and maybe turn it over to frank and rita um to uh give just a brief update on where we're at on that that's okay because i do i know we're still struggling with pandemic behaviors um and i i want us to be sure we're all on the same page and it's the best way we can do for sure well we're frankerita yeah he has to send out a list of of organizations or people that we thought should be consulted was that ever consolidated or shared or whatever remember we each one of us sent out something yes it was and so uh well heather real quick do you want to talk a little bit about the buckets of questions and then frank and rita or either or to get into a little bit about what our first steps are going to be sure yeah so the buckets of questions ended up being the partnership administrative structure and operational model financial structure equity and inclusiveness and site development um and then after development what happened after development and jeff dear to your question what we did was we took a lot of the or we took all of what was submitted and tried to categorize we ended up with this giant list of stuff and tried to bucket it together and synthesize things and get to an overall sort of like framework and and sub-pieces to be able to break into both background research uh and then uh conversation so frank do you want to highlight a little bit about that yeah uh just further background i think this all started either at the august or july meeting the idea which i may have suggested others i'm sure did too that that we really need to learn from successful situations in communities either in proximity to ann arbor or they could be in other locations across the country and so we formed this this group it's myself alice rita adam and sarah so everybody and heather has been joining her time to have joined us uh for our meetings as well and we developed uh a set of topics and the questions uh and we took the input from the the broader group on potential communities and um i think we've settled initially on detroit and plymouth and we decided to go at it one at a time and to have the entire group uh of five um be involved with with detroit and we'll jointly learn from that interchange and we are also encouraged by such a robust uh engaging response from a gentleman by the name of david cowling excuse me cowan c-o-w-a-n who is the chief open space uh person for a group called the uh the downtown detroit partnership um i won't go into a lot of detail but it's a 100 year old business association that has taken on with the cooperation of the city of detroit and other organizations the management and development of seven downtown parks in the city of detroit and tomorrow afternoon our group uh of uh five uh you know are gonna have a uh up to two hour zoom meeting with david and we're going to address those topics and get into those questions and uh i i think uh you know my enthusiasm i think is shared by everyone that uh engaged with with david he's not only had 12 years experience he's only 30 um he says 12 years with the downtown detroit partnership but communities around the country and in the state of michigan have been reaching out to him we discover and so he's knowledgeable about uh other situations of other communities and that that's i think that maybe one question we don't have is advice of other communities that we might uh learn from uh as well but anyhow that that we're looking forward to that uh engagement tomorrow afternoon um and uh we're we'll obviously be reporting back to to the full committee in some detail on on how that goes i read it you want to add you're muted i think sorry uh yeah actually i don't have anything to add that's a great summary frank thank you thank you oh thank you for doing that remind me just of the time of that meeting tomorrow uh three three p.m okay okay there actually had been an earlier engagement with david we discovered a couple years ago will hathaway and a fellow by name of uh john floyd and i think jack eaton was involved and they actually went down there and met and toured but you know things happen and here we are 36 months out but uh he's been extremely generous with his time and he he knows about ann arbor he has family here he you know he wants us to succeed as much as they've experienced success in detroit so we've got a couple questions for you i think eric goes first and then jeff great to hear this movie forward and it's exciting sorry if i um this is part but how is there going to be a process for um recording this this engagement so that um we don't necessarily revisit in a couple more years and ask you know we're keeping track of what um the good information that they're sharing with us is there kind of a thought i'm doing that i think i think that's a heather question but i assume that this is this will be a zoo meeting so it could be recorded but we would need david's permission to do that so assuming that he's comfortable with it we can record it but then also my assumption all along and and members of the working group can confirm or not was that they would develop a written report about it that would be attached and given out to the full group yeah and things you know even though the contact was made three years ago things change yeah and you know it's not going to be that useful in a year or two yeah so i i don't know they're recording it is that essential it's for now that we really need to well my 77 year old brain tells me i would benefit from recording i think too so we don't have to scramble or scribble notes since we have present hopefully i think this is going to be information rich conversation and at least for some period of time uh and and asking for his permission i can't imagine he wouldn't but uh i would hope for a recording so we so the whole group can hear what goes on there and yeah yeah oh sorry frank no no no uh jeff then yeah i think jeff here you end up so i think this is fat fantastic and i think it's very important that we do this uh but i don't want us to lose sight of two things one uh there is a lot of international experience which um can be brought to bear uh people have been doing stuff in europe for in in asia uh for longer than we have and are in some ways more forward thinking than we are about um you know urban uh commons and urban center of the city kind of development ideas and activities so i don't want us to lose uh that kind of input i don't know how one would collect it i had identified a few people that we ought to consult um who who know a lot about that and have been engaged in it in europe and the other thing i would want to say is that ex nobody in the world has really produced you know the perfect model and nobody ever will but uh we're you know we're we're all struggling in the current environment to come to good answers and of course climate change and and the and the virus have made that even more uh necessary and so i would like i i would like to add if you like the sauce if you the the the the uh that should go on to this beautiful work that you're doing ought to be some an international dimension and some of the visionaries out there who are trying to imagine better solutions than anybody's got right now because ann arbor hopefully is going to wind up with a unique answer for itself and and hopefully a model for others down the road and i don't think we just want to be i don't think we want to be me too too much that's always a danger and the way you avoid me too is you extend your thought process and your framing to include forward thinking or visionary thoughts as well as international kind of dimensions and i and i talked about this concept of insight before where you have hindsight you have outside where you look at other models around you and then you have foresight where you look at possible future scenarios and i don't want to lose that foresight element and so somehow if we can weave that in that would be helpful thanks jeff uh rita you've got your hand up and then alan um jeff you ended with something that i was gonna contribute which is um i want us to have our ann arbor solution um i see this as something of um just reaching out to see what other people what other areas are doing but we want to have our uniqueness and i do not expect us to try and carbon copy i hope that that is not um a result of of these efforts this is really more like to just explore uh ellen yes we have our our own uh unique situation but we should be learning from what's going on in the rest of the world and i encourage you in the uh agenda notes the paper that odile submitted the commons a key concept for the future of development from france that reviews many of these ideas i hope that people will read that and begin to see the commons as a you know mode of thought is developing all over the world how we apply it uniquely in our situation is our challenge but there's more going on than what we know from our immediate area so plea please read the uh attachment that's in the minutes that odile sent out excellent thank you alan um so uh unless there's any other further top uh conversation on this topic the last thing really fast oh yeah sorry sir i didn't see your hand up yeah i could just put it up um i just wanted to so we do not expect i think this is like our first step talking to david and frank and rita had had this like prior conversation with him so he was again like a spring said he's being very generous with his time i think we're using this because we have had the prior contact it's sort of like a test for our questions too like we have a lot of questions to get through and we do not expect future interviewees to take two hours with us so i think this will sort of be a good test on like what are the questions that are are resonating the most with you know like our situation and what are we learning from the most to help us sort of like pare it down and make sure that the future we can do future interviews in like a more streamlined manner so i just want to not all interviews are going to be too harsh i don't think that's awesome no definitely yep uh so unless there in any other further points on this uh topic the the last item we have on the agenda is the long-term planning and uh you know it being that it is uh 902 i was gonna make a suggestion that i think we've gotten a lot of good discussion tonight and i feel like this long-term planning piece is really important um i'd like to make a suggestion that that we table that to the next uh meeting and that we also ahead of time fill in elements that we feel are outstanding for the long-term planning like i know fundraising for the planning uh uh piece is an element that i'd like to talk about i know there are probably a host of other elements too and so if we could submit ideas under the long-term planning banner to heather for the next agenda i think if folks are comfortable doing that rather than starting a conversation tonight i think that would be really helpful just my perspective do we good with that okay so i'm good with that i hope that the various criteria that there was a number that were mentioned could somehow be included in somebody who's taking notes could include those in the notes so for memory as to what's in particular criteria are that we're being looked at from detroit and plymouth yeah for sure ellen you're definitely gonna get a i will tell you i think our our this uh working group uh our subcommittee is very dedicated to i'm gonna meet you for a second here so i'm giving this feedback is very dedicated to getting you uh as much information as we possibly can on this so um so in that case we'll table the long-term planning and i think the last item on the agenda then is uh public comment heather do we have any members of the public here yes robert black would like to speak all right thank you heather um congratulations all i am enjoying watching you form a mastermind here um your respectful communication to each other is creating these channels of communication together and i'm i'm really applaud you for this good work i know that you will never present a baked plan to anybody it should not be done that way this is a process of patient ground work and you're doing it i'm just so happy to watch this your outreach ideas of informing the process from other communities even the larger picture that jeffrey said and then this next one where sarah's going to chair this i think you're right on with these sort of mini task forces or whatever you want to call them and i i have a number of notes here and i won't even get into it but this idea of preparation for outreach before outreach like adam talked about and what sarah's going to do with that group is is wonderful and what i've noticed in my work with other companies and in watching the the major players of facilitation around the ann arbor area this idea of sort of patient informal conversations like alice said it took eight years to do that tunnel i remember jerry clark and worked with him when we were doing some of the groundwork for miller's creek and the work i did with james jane lum it took a while to get that watershed plan to be number three in the country by the epa and we engaged the whole northeast neighborhood so kudos to you guys in bravo for this um let's see i just wanted to see if i had a couple quick comments to leave you with um this idea of positing a future vision that you that jeffrey's talking about the the foresight is really important there was a process i did years ago with jack losman and some other people to create a vision for a data center in saginaw and there's a process called back casting where you go into that future and you create kind of a news item of what it looks like when you're already there time travel into the future and see what this is and if you can create you the council of commons can create a compelling vision for the the work build on the task force look at page 16 of their recommendations listening to feedback from the community building on past work learning more about commons and cotton and then learning more about designing public spaces you're right on track to do this and just be patient um it will unfold but give yourself a target to shoot for john kennedy stood on the steps of the union and started the peace corps at late at night one night he threw out an idea to put a man on the moon in ten years it took eight and a half years to do it so you guys can put your own moonshot out there and then you might be surprised who will come to that conversation mike martin the new library director the new administrator i think as uh alice said so beautifully the stars are aligning for you and uh have faith and just keep up your good work i really am applaud your your beautiful work tonight thank you thanks robert anyone else other no that's it all right i'd like to say this is the earliest we've been done yet so we're continuing to improve uh 908 i think and i know there's some laughs the last thing i'd say is i love being on zoom uh for meetings because of the furry friends that join us and we saw a few of those and i definitely uh tried to restrain my laughter so anyways it's really wonderful to see all of you again uh and um and do we have a motion for adjournment so move two any seconds all right plenty uh all in favor say aye all right any opposed all right motion carries see you soon thank you you

as the commissioners know we have pbsis in all of our schools pbs has this positive behavior support system in schools and the purpose of it is to set school expectations for everyone and to recognize those students who meet those expectations so just to give an example in the first 17 days of school at school number five this year the students were able to earn a total of 11 625 what we call starbucks or school five called starbucks and each starbuck represents a student meeting a school-wide expectation so in other words it means that at school five over the first 17 days of school there have been over 11 000 positive and kind interactions between the all-star staff and students there so it's just a testament to what's going on at not just at school five but this is going on in all of our schools in some way shape or form very thankful to report that school 16 will be opening on tuesday october 13th correct me if i'm wrong i think that's the 13th the 12th so many people worked so very hard to make sure that the building could reopen and i'm just very very very grateful just wanted to set the expectations right our goal is was to open school so there are some things that you know we're still waiting on the gymnasium is not going to be complete but that'll be done we can you know would encourage students to go outside with their teachers as much as possible there was a two-month or 10-week back order to get new desks in the classroom so we borrow desks from all the schools so they're not brand new but all the students and teachers will be getting brand new desks so the goal is to open so not everything is brand new but i think that you will be very very impressed when you see what's happened at school 12.

we also understand it's a key component of other states requirement established by regulations not legislations must be subject to exemptions for both medical and personal beliefs this means since the Mandate is not established by is established by executive order medical and personal beliefs exemptions will be accepted and so I'm asking that you as a school board would consider making a statement like that until you hit a point where you cannot I'm asking you would stand in solidarity with us your constituency to make that statement that's not going to hurt our funding it's not going to take away parent choice and it's still going to protect our children and together as Educators administrators and parents we can move this needle in this world toward reason balance and civility thank you [Applause] is Jillian in here now is Jillian in their house okay [Music] did you get your card okay [Music] hi before I start I don't have enough of them but I do have I believe five of them um I just want to give you a little history so about this vaccine um my father got the shot my father yeses of course he's 76 years old my father was in the hospital 12 days almost died ended up having heart every every organ in his body failed thankfully my father made it ironically the CDC contacts me and asks me how's your father doing I explained to them what's happening you know everything that's going on and I asked them do you need me to find a record really snow lamp or the CDC we can get all of that why are you calling me well because we have no studies on what this vaccine does my father is the study I'm wanting to give you this because now the CDC is contacting me to see if I want compensation for my father why because they know this vaccine is not safe because why would the CDC want to pay his hospital bill and give me compensation my child my grandchildren will not be their study if you decide for you yourselves to have your children do that more power to you but I if I choose for my child to get a vaccine it will be on me if something happens to my child I will not give any of you that right because it is my child just as you have the right to say I will do it and I will not do it that is what this country is based on I have a right I want you to read this I blocked off my father's name but I want you to see that this is real most people don't know about this the CDC is using you as their guinea pigs and then they want to buy you off please go on there and look at this it's probably myocarditis in children my father my father can't even see out of his eye why because it is hemorrhaging over the vaccine I know I know you guys hear us we're angry and I I understand it but please look at everything vote with the facts the facts that you study not the facts that our government has given us because our government tried to exterminate my people the Native Americans so why why should I have to trust my government I don't know and I will never trust my government because see they said I was a Savage I'm not a Savage I am a mother I am a proud Native American mother that will protect my child against the euro-american way of they think they know what is best for my child she's my child she came out of me not out of them thank you thank you [Applause] thank you if your card was not red will you please make sure I don't know of course do we have a car okay in a situation where we have additional public comments and have exceeded the 20 minute maximum time per item members of our community will be able to submit electronic public comments to capris c a p r i c e underscore z i e r a u at avosd.org by Monday October 11 2021 at 12 pm these public comments will be publicly posted and distributed to all members of the Board of Trustees an information card with this information is available at the sign in table superintendent's comment no comment what comment [Applause] uh Christopher Nunes say something man so my name is Chris Nunez I joined the board in July of just this year I have a nine-year-old son my wife works in the school district if you can't hear my heart pounding right now it is this is obviously a very very complex but very important issue that we are facing and working through that's right number one priority Above All Else is keeping Kids Safe and in school in person we are working through each and every one of these issues as they come down I really appreciate you guys being here I appreciate those of you that spoke and those of you that will please please write us your comment okay we need every one of those we take all of that into consideration thank you we are working together this is not an adversarial type of situation the folks up here are not against you we are all just trying to make sure that we keep our kids in school developing continuing on with what is most important right so here so so with that thank you very much and we'll continue the work together okay thank you thank you Mr Raleigh yes okay like Paul so that one of the speakers said just a few minutes ago we are not your enemy I've been in this community for 50 years and I did uh 33 years in law enforcement and I love this community so with that said I even have some relatives in the Q out here my stepdaughter step daughter-in-law and they're all yelling at me do something Rick okay so what I'm going to propose we do as a board member is I would like to see and if we have to call a special meeting between now and the next meeting because we only meet once a month I want to agendize and I want to have a detailed presentation from the superintendent's office or from legal on what our options are as a board if we sit and do nothing what are what what could be done do we need to self-fund the district if we go outside the guidelines of what the governor says so so basically you know we want to help you and it it's not easy to sit here and see community members that I've known for a long time and neighbors of mine that are upset with this because believe me I have five grandkids in this district and I don't believe one of them is getting that shot okay that's their mother's choice and their father's choice I get it we all get it so with that said let's agendize and have a a detailed presentation on options tornadoes already got the notes and we'll have we'll call a special meeting we'll notify it in the newspaper you guys can all come back again in a bigger room with the with the with the sound system working and we'll we'll do this because we have to change a few ordinances to be able to do that but I will guarantee that everybody will have a voice because this issue is not going away the next issue is going to be K through 12.

dictates of those those who love us from on high because because they alleged so far they never ever have to live with consequences because of the term cause at the low level as we try to enforce or carry out they're out there dictated community that really feels had no it's a representation in the matter recently our president delivered a speech that essentially cons of two parts player the vaccine and Miracle highly highly effective about preventing hospitalization from covid and the second part declared to 80 million unvaccinated as an evil in arms endangering those those who write things and have been vaccinated therefore he did be declared we must now mandate all companies with over 100 employees must request require employees to be vaccination the inherent contradiction of these two declarations my immediate concern here is unnecessary division Visions that's created between Americans our own governor was to have our president declaring weeks ago that October 15th all teachers would be required to be vaccinated or submit to weekly testing before the first mandate has even taken effect he has declared declared as soon as in mandate also students K-12 to be detonated he will remove the testing option for teachers the Buddhist position is to Rebecca Dignity of all of all its members as well as the broader community on both sides of this unnecessary divide by in the community and having access to it as well as other PPE they will help them like why is a Buddha supports its members and the person that who's right to choose what the vaccine isn't a measure for them to take issue lies in the idea that those shoes for any reason to remain unvaccinated are being threatened threatened loss of their jobs for teachers educational opportunities for students so here's my request um our request request is work with the Apple Valley tours Union to seek ways to protect all teacher students appreciate the efforts of absc to help all teachers get vaccinated who want it vaccinated we ask now that you put her with us to protectors and applicable valleys do to choose to not vaccinated from losing their job and being prevented from attending school we are now asking you to spice your jobs or break a law or even blaming using you for that man I know where this lie is I'm on high stop thank you thank you [Applause] and uh after this we'll build the original can you hear me hello oh hello can you turn it up I don't think it's even working to be honest [Music] um okay when you tap on it she said so far check mic check okay Mike Mike check can you guys hear me so I gotta hold it like this please okay um last Friday a parent's worst nightmare just came true it was bad enough when newest news cdph went beyond DDC guide guidelines and dated Mass pursue students even though there's overwhelming evidence of ineffectiveness and harm schools push testings on healthy students since was proving to be necessary nation of privacy and discriminatory right schools implicating quarantine protocol calls the healthy even even though there is evidence this makes any different difference becoming now the new school shutdown for depriving children of their education and now out under the covid shot I do not iterate a vaccine vaccine scenes actually work and have long-term studies for their safety and efficacy mandated for the least vulnerable population .008 almost grow mortality for our kids my son is at most from dying from a car accident on the way to school than from covid Newsom the champion of covid-19 vaccines just days before the student student mate would fight for prison guards not to be vaccinated I guess when donate one 1.5 million dollars to his call campaign you get special privileges I wish it's had that kind of money nobody knows how they will respond to this vaccine seeing all medications anxiety effects unfortunately recorded in Sonoma County County just reading there was already one verified chat due to this [ __ ] a young healthy 16 year old boy now gone and now if there's a scene being mandated I'm afraid it won't be the last there are also studies out showing on other things effects particularly on young boys Hearts causing myocarditis and I could go on what would I want to know is what is the district going to do to stand up for the safety of our kids so far guys don't have a good tracker will you continue to be good Littles littlesters for governor who only is about a political Victory vaccine lap knowing that potentially you sentence sentencing a child to death you say save their exemptions which by law you honor speaking from experience in the end will you say you can't accommodate the huge Flux Of Cliff kids with visions you lack resources courses and what exactly is being done with all the covid money is that set aside for students to accommodate them with them when families once this man goes into effect what about when they try to take the personal build exemptions away we are scared and we're desperate and we are looking for Solutions but what we're organized our group is being bigger and bigger parents are willing to link to kids from this in this District are you prepared for a exit assistive student teachers do whatever it takes to protect our children and we elected you to do the same thank you and Audrey is [Music] thank you for having me my name is Ricardo cardito a business owner and tenured professor kids were enrolled in abdsd but we put them on homeschool after the the distance from local in the spring of June 20.

appreciate you being here and we're doing a quick [ __ ] we're going to work our way through this Mr soul mrso yeah I do I just want three or four lady before I got married you know what what happens up they thought I was talking about Communists that's what I say it's not it's not yet you know that's the reasons because of the word communism okay my turn it's my turn to speak now um I I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each each one of you for exercising the rights that many of us have never had I came from a country where you don't have those rights and I have enjoyed a lot of what your country has to offer and my children have enjoyed the privilege of having been born in a country that has freedom but I want you to know one thing there is no no single parent in this room that I don't value my children are grown and gone they don't even live here but I made the decision to live here because your children are important many of your children or many of your grandchildren or many of the parents that are that I have encountered in this room I have taught their kids in the 30 years of plus I have lived in this side of it when you have to take care of your children it is valuable your children are the most valuable commodity that God has ever given you and so when you fight on behalf of your children I admire it it may not be what I want it may not be what any of the board members want but I know it is what you want and I respect it when I walk into this boardroom every time as a president of the board before I sit down I say prayer I thank God for giving me the opportunity to speak in a place that didn't know me when I first came here when I first arrived in this place I couldn't even be allowed to sit on a table such as this but I want you to know one thing there is nobody that will fight harder for your children than the members of my of this team here we come at it at different ways but when I see you in the store I see a brother and I see a sister I see a grandmother like me I'm a grandmother of nine I value your children if you don't want to give your child to get your children vaccinated it is your right if you want to give your children get them vaccinated it is still your right but at this time we are functioning Under the Umbrella of a bigger system and like Mr Raleigh said we will look at all of what's involved to make an informed decision about what is best for Apple Valley School District Apple Valley School District is a unified school district it is not Apple Valley slash Hesperia School District or Apple Valley slash Barstow School District it is Apple Valley School District we cater to the children of Apple Valley we love the children of Apple Valley I don't have any family members in Apple Valley but I'm extremely passionate about Apple Valley School District when kovid was at its highest I run around with everybody else to try and Feed the Children they are not my kids I was begging to go in and line up to get our staff members protected these are not my family so usually when I come to a meeting I'm expecting us to be cordial with each other to respect each other's rights to speak when it is time to speak and to follow the decorum that goes with what makes Apple Valley a unique place I want you to know when you walk out of this room that you're walking out of a room where everybody in this on these days cares for your child we just don't know how to navigate this at yes yet mind you the word I said is as yet but that doesn't mean that we wouldn't navigate it give us the chance to show you how much your children matter to us and at the end we'll come to a a a place where we can respect the choices that we're gonna make that's all I have to say I'm speaking straight from my heart I came to this board meeting today after having buried two members of my family that died three weeks apart but your children are so much more important because I'm more interested in what's alive than what is dead so please give us the time to process all of this so that we can give you a response that is fitting for your child and the child next to them I thank you so much for your time one sec we'd love to reading them but we can't under the current pair of paradise we have over 200 million American revaccinated but that's an infection rates are nearly three times where a year ago when no one vaccinated current coveted vaccines aren't stopping the spread recent University Audi outbreak included 204 people only eight were vaccinated that the rest were fully vaccinated and in August 27 peven patters above the carnival of Vista crew all tested to positive awfully vaccinated since we know that that vaccine isn't preventing infection right of the disease vax vaccine mess has pivoted depicting against severe air illness the problem with that is is that children specifically speaking don't need protection from severe covet the cdc's own steel looked at hospitalization of killed the 17 years old from January through 8th through April Hospital little Zayn was about one and a half per 100 then conversely 18 to 40 to 40 year old adults had hospitalization rates of 8.8 000 and adults 50 to 64 we're 5.8 per 100 000.

so i want to thank the board and i want to thank mr usi and i want to thank dr robert tozie the other thing that i like to bring up are the plastic dividers that are in the schools maybe that could be discussed some of the classrooms some of the teachers in the high school really don't think it's useful because some of the kids are taller so if that could be discussed during your executive session i would appreciate it now the other things as as a president and i think most people know that dr robert tosie also gets screenshots of things from social media so what i'm looking at and i'm going to give a shout out to tova is before you post think is it true is it helpful is it inspiring is it necessary and is it kind how many starbucks from from school i guess that was school five would people here including out in clifton and teachers and students and the board how many would we be getting because i've been getting screenshots of different things from members from social media and it really is upsetting to see the negativity that's going on when dr robertosi first started here everybody worked so well together it was harmonious we stood up for each other we helped each other we looked out for each other we did the best for the kids and that's our bullseye here are the kids of clifton and whether whether you disagree with people but still look for the kindness the understanding the empathy i think we need to reflect on that and that includes you know everybody that works for clifton to go back and remember why we're here we're here for students we're here for their families and we're here for their community and i think we need to remember that because seeing some of the things that i've been getting it's just very upsetting and i'm not saying anything names or anything because i'm professional but please kids see this parents see it and i want us to work together to be a positive school district and as you know the hashtag is clifton1 so thank you so much thank you uh al dubois clifton these masks they're you guys must have gotten used to it because i never wear it so it's it really feels uh horrible for me and i'm wondering how the kids and the teachers feel about it i submitted a couple weeks back something regarding a citizens advisory committee forming one so that we can have and ideally a bunch of citizens to talk about this face mask covered future vaccinations hopefully there'll be a selection of individuals who don't think the party line because it would be an advisory or a had hoc committee or whatever committee so that we can get some things moving along the woman mentioned about the shields i did hear that there was a young student getting petitions for the shields in school i don't know the reason why but i did hear that that he didn't think it was necessary didn't want him i met a couple of teachers the other night at a church event and they were very upset because their father uh his arm swelled up considerably after a vaccination shot the other gentleman that was with her his parent died so there's just so much about this covid but there's only one side that's being presented and i it's not going away right away and i think this should be a citizen's advisory to meet discuss and whatever might pop up again down the line all of a sudden at least we can all be better well prepared for instance dr robert hosey had mentioned emphatically optional he said it pretty you know surely then the governor decides to change it three days later he quits why well from listening to the wayne's board event meetings and seems to hear both he's afraid of losing money well that's extortion that's criminal if you are afraid of losing money because the governor is putting a knife to your throat there's something wrong with that especially when he was in favor of optional masks i'm walking around every day the same way i have for two years i don't wear this matter of fact i work hard for the longest time saying i got a medical condition and through you mr smith i'd like you to ask your legal person maybe give me a response later i think you're allowed an exemption if you have a medical condition to come into any public building i don't think you can keep somebody out so i'd like to have that for me because i really would prefer not wearing this um but like i was saying you know it's unfair that he gave in so does the waiting board event because they're afraid of losing money that's extortion that's not right maybe if you had some citizens that had uh some meetings and discussed we could have went further we could have at least sent them a letter the governor asking him to rethink it or something but we've done nothing the teacher was in tears she um doesn't want to get the vaccine shot so she's afraid of what's coming down so there should be people discussing this now and be well prepared for what might come down maybe we should find out more information i'm sure if we gathered enough new jersey residents we we can do some alternatives to this madness so i'm just asking that we form some kind of committee whatever it takes you know i don't know if it's haddock advisory it doesn't matter to me as long as it's people meeting that think differently thank you your pen doesn't right okay see that motion or closed thank you motion to close by uh mr abu drabbo second second bye miss bassford okay all right we'll move along we don't have first reading of policy we have no presentations board committee reports we'll start with the just as they're listed residency and security um mr wad thank you president smith the meeting took place on thursday september 30th 2021 and began around 404 pm in attendance from the administration where dr daniel robertosi assistant superintendent mark gingaro michael doctor and mr vinnie board of ed members in attendance were myself as committee chair commissioner canova commissioner casper and president smith mr gingaro began by thanking the committee for the new positions and responsibilities of the director of operations and the head of themselves investigator and security assistant as they have already been a great asset to the district and the safety of our students mr gingaro provided an update on the bond referendum items jct cameras has conducted a walk through of the middle schools in the high schools and work should begin mid october we have inquired with a security company on various softwares including ai detection software which with 98 percent accuracy can detect weapons and slips and falls we have inquired as to the cost of the service and waiting on a quote finally the core bts notification system is being finalized and replaced and enhanced with current pa systems in the schools allowing areas where announcements cannot be heard to hear an emergency announcement work will begin in the middle schools and high schools due to the fact of the vast majority of our incidents categorized in our vvsa report occur at those three buildings next week jct cameras will begin conducting walkthroughs of the elementary schools they should be viewing two schools per day as is a through yet time consuming process mr gingaro updated the committee on the crossing guard shortage with 60 identified posts and only 30 crossing cards are available the clifton police department has had to backfill the positions with members of the traffic division cpd is aware of the issue and is looking for various options to attempt to resolve it finally mr gingaro updated the committee on professional development for all staff regarding security on october 11th the district p day district staff will receive specific focus safety and security training three presentations will take place throughout the day so staff members will be able to hear the one consistent safety message mr doctor also updated the committee on registration and residency recently the re recently the registration procedures and registration page on the district website have been updated this was done in an effort to make the process easier for parents and guardians seeking to register their children for school one of the changes was to provide a dedicated registration representative based on registering the child's last name mr doctor also updated the committee on registrations to date on august 10th there were over 1100 new registrations and address changes in our system to be processed as of september 30th there were only 141 the department is working to streamline the process of registration residency investigations and other department responsibilities to end with good news the residency investigations continue throughout the summer and in the school year in the past month our investigators have gone out to over 250 residency inquiries prior to the domicile investigators were utilized within the welcome center for customer service the registration purposes and security drills they returned to the field on a regular basis on september 15th conducting focused investigations of over 250 cases 13 of those cases were found not to reside in clifton and of those 13 10 have since been seized and saving our district over 275 thousand dollars i would like to repeat that with the hard work of mike doctor mr gingaro the staff vinnie and his entire team we were able to seize students that were not living in our district saving over well over a quarter million dollars the meeting adjourned around 4 47 p.m and that is all any questions mr president uh through you to the superintendent um with cpd being light as it is and us needing to fill the crossing guard positions i'm not a big fan of privatizing but is this something we should start looking at companies that can help us fill these positions or at least is there a crossing guard position that can help us to relieve cpd so this way they can focus on the streets in the city the safety of clifton i'm not sure if the clifton police department's looking into that but we we do not have any say in the hiring of the crossing guards they report directly to the police department um i'm not sure if that's even an option that they're looking at okay is that something that we can um i guess hint to them that may be an option i mean i i really don't know i'm not on the city side i just that just concerns me because if if cpd sorry echo the cpd is filling up those positions which lessens the amount of police officers on the streets in clifton um i don't know so there's got to be a solution well i i agree it causes uh you know multiple problems it's a it's a domino effect right so i know that we have been in discussions with the police department we will continue to be and i will be sure to mention your comments thank you any other questions okay seeing none um diversity and inclusion uh mr abigail thank you president smith clinton border by the diversity inclusion committee minutes of the september 28 2021 meeting the diversity inclusion committee meeting began at 1 pm attendees were myself iam abedrabo board commissioner dana beltran administrators doctor danny robert ozzy and principal ahmed hamda teachers lori lalama carla rodriguez john o'reilly courtney terry and jackie turk and two students were as well um in in the meeting and i'm sorry moving forward can we make sure we don't put the names of the students on here if it's released to the public just fyi topics discussion number one the purposes meeting was to discuss the goals of the diversity inclusion committee for the 21 22 school year number two professional development for staff was discussed cultural sensitivity training was discussed as an option for the staff number three surveying the middle school student population was discussed at the meeting number four curriculum was also addressed at the meeting the committee discussed the importance of diversity equity and inclusion in curriculum and with that being said the meeting was adjourned at 202 pm the next meeting will be on 10 26 1 pm okay any questions just uh yeah um the middle school surveyed in regards to so there will be a middle school survey going out um and it will not be as intense as the high school one to talk about gender religion culture um disabilities various of the includes inclusivity of students and how they feel and how they are accepted within their peers and their teachers the high school level did one but since our population of middle school students are younger this the committee of teachers and administrators are going to be putting one together to assess the same exact information but not too delved in because yet they're still at a younger age to help mr daly yeah i got a question did we generate this survey internally or did we use someone else's survey services we have um honestly the faculty members and administrators who are particularly the teachers who are on this are so um weaved into the issue of diversity inclusion that they've been doing it themselves yeah the reason why i asked because i've heard through grapevine and social media that other school districts have pulled in a survey from another organization that may may not be appropriate so my only concern was that we did it internally rather than externally no they're baking it from scratch they're putting it together themselves i think the best thing and i agree with mr daily is to keep it internal look at the data because obviously questions are from from the external aspects whether it's pulling from another district or another organization or another third party uh may be an impediment to the data we're looking at here in our district but again i want to speak very highly of all the faculty administrators and teachers they're phenomenal and they have resources at their fingertips and they're using them thank you mr president yes could we have could the board get a copy of what the goals are of the committee as well uh just internally thank you yeah i think dr robert tells you and i spoke about getting those goals as well and the resources that were shared by ms jackie turk for the board uh i don't know if that was done or not no we'll we'll get that okay completed dr robertosi did you want i'm sorry yes uh mr no not a problem i just wanted to clarify mr avadrab was absolutely right we definitely don't want the students names on on the minutes um so just so everyone knows this hasn't gone out to the public yet this is just for only you can see it so we'll make sure before it's public tomorrow that the students names are redacted thank you yeah just to add on to that committee minutes are not released to the public until we approve them here at the uh at the board level so uh they'll make sure those corrections are made tomorrow when they're released miss danny dr danny um i i do i do was the survey already put together is is it already put together to serve for the middle school or for the high school the middle school no it's being put together um we haven't discussed on a release date one that will be applied and released to the middle school but i believe if dr robertosi or commissioner beltran correct me for a mistake because commission belgium is on it as well we're going to discuss that at our next meeting at the end of the month because i i did attend something at school boards and it was something about a survey that you can give out so i wasn't sure whether you know maybe if you wanted to reach out to school boards to see if it was uh one of the classes that i attended and they had a survey and obviously um maybe use parts of it or something so that's why i was just saying because it was something i was looking to do at the school that i'm at so i could see if i can dig up that survey to find out where uh president smith that's okay with you i'll reach out to school boards um and the uh the full board will get a copy of that survey once it's generated as well so you'll be able to see that correct i think the plan was that the um the high school and the middle school was going to be disseminated to all the board members once they have all that information together so you could so you can compare both any other questions anyone else thank you thank you next we'll go to education and special education vice president casper the education special education committee was held on september 22nd beginning at four o'clock the attendees were myself board president mr jim smith and board member dr danny administrators included dr robert tosi mrs kusalevich mr gingaro and mrs rotolo all of these items that i'm about to read are all informational number one school opening update from dr robertosi and mrs kusalevich they had shared highlights of the district so there you still notice coach possibly just telling walden to take it down with the physicality that'll be a nice shot on that by kochi and giroux is able to easily grab it and he'll make a pun that is a boot and now it is evan's in a race that'll go off caseras and evans is there to make the throne it'll be walden taking the throne actually and he will direct it right towards brunel makes a little pass tomorrow now that ball will end up going out of bounds off weldon so it'll be ludlow's ball here number 24 no number 16 casares we'll take it that ball will go right back out of bounds it'll be caseras with another throne weldon's able to step up and make a nice play there that's evans handling the ball he makes a nice little chip pass forward brunel attacking the net there almost was able to make a play but love those goalie was able to fend them off this stevens now directing it towards giroux giroud tries to kick it deep and is redirected off a ludlow player but issa meadows able to gain control again so is kochi trying to control the ball that'll be stolen but it goes right back to ludlow out to number 10 guitario and now 16 caseras that'll be coachy grabbing onto the ball he's shoved down by quran a lot of physicality especially directed towards cochise so far it'll be a free kick from outside number six ben reilly will take it for ludlow or potentially caceres or one of these other guys in the backfield casares cochi so four ludlow players are lined up behind the ball they're making a little trick play that'll be a deep shot it'll be to the right of the net and a little bit too high as well so the unsuccessful free kick we'll end up in a goal kick for drew who will just tap it to mazza and oh no it is still drew with the goal kick he will boot it past midfield it is evans now handling evans out to i believe josh riley who tries to handle the ball but it is turned over now going the other way blood though drew playing aggressively out of the net right now dangerous play by drew there but it ends up working out so ludlow with the free kick from the outside a little slide tackle there it's now to the middle well though with an opportunity 17 with an outside cross it is coaching now with the shot from inside and it'll be too high big opportunity for ludlow there as we cross the midway point of this first half cochi is unable to capitalize and it ends up in a goal kick for giroux riley now with the throw in he will direct it towards evans scramble for the ball will go out of bounds off of ludlow it'll be now riley with another throw-in he will look very deep towards mazza mazza doesn't look to get the ball and it'll end up going out of bounds off of east salt meadow because sarah's now with the throwing so it is one nothing 1730 remaining in the first half caceres with that throw in it is intercepted by morneau with a header it is now mazza trying to hold on he'll tap it back out to riley riley with the attempted pass to the right side it is ludlow now going the other way up the left side is number 17 enzo bada and now it is number nine for ludlow trying to take a shot it is deflected off nissan defender so now number 10 for ludlow we'll try and hold on a little extra a little extra after it goes out of bounds by morneau there on kitario perhaps something personal so number six ben reilly will take the throw in i'll be directed towards kochie and ends up being too far so now while though with the ball it'll be their left midi trying to hold on back to their left back so caceres will come out to grab that loose ball he'll take a deep shot and giroux comes up big [Applause] that shot was a missile from over 30 yards out and drew was able to come up big with that save that was caceras number 16 with that shot on that it'll now be mazza taking this free kick he puts it on that and is directed back out by a ludlow defender coach you with that header up to his teammate number 17 bada tries to play it ends up going out of bounds he saw meadow throwing here i believe for mazza morneau is coming out along with three ludlow players baits trying to control there he passes to brunel brunel tries to direct it back towards bates goes to evans evans passes it to the outside to luke mazza luke mazza trying to make a move he tries to direct that towards sonny mazza is intercepted now a deep pass and drew will try and come out here number gabe samard tries to take a little chip shot there giroud is too fast for him and is able to get out on that ball before he's able to nice play by drew they're able to stop that scoring opportunity what would have been a breakaway ended in a goal kick for giroux cool directed out towards midfield evans tries to make a play on it is mazda now with the ball he passes it to brunel and something is called there it is a foul on blood though it'll go we saw meadows away it'll be a free kick a short one may i add ah never mind not as short but evans there presumably to take a shot and he will put it on net it'll be too high so it'll be a goal kick now 61 degrees here in east salt meadow is a cool night here off that goal kick it'll be redirected back towards ludlow's goal and now love though able to direct it once again with the same play there just a deep chip pass towards their striker it is now riley with the ball on the left side he tries to make a pass towards bates it is intercepted now bates grabbing on bates with a little pass to mazza mazza makes a through pass directed towards evans it's going to be too far and is now caceres now making the play to kochi kochi passes it and that ball ends up with number 23 wadas sorry 23 goncalves i believe as those numbers were changed quran tries to make a play there it is intercepted by ludlow number four mendez and he just directs it out of bounds it is josh riley now taking the throw in and he will try and make a play here that'll be short to bates bates just taps it back now a deep right side mazza trying to grab onto that ball is now throwing freestyle meadow a couple subs are made weldon goes back in for riley and morneau seems to be lining up to make another sub there's 10 45 remaining in this first half it is bates passing it towards monroe monroe makes a nice little move to the outside he's trying to control handling it passes it to weldon that'll end up being a foul it'll go ludlow's way it'll be number six ben riley taking this free kick here he plays it short to caseras casera is putting it up the right side he's going to direct it towards quite arrow that ball goes out of bounds is now walden with the throne he'll put it towards bates bates will tap it out to steven stevens makes a pass it'll be redirected back to morneau morneau to weldon and walden puts it up to the right side to paschetto it was advancing up the right side for yourself but it is stolen by ludlow it is caceres now back with the ball he will try and make a play with this ends up with the ball weldon steals it he tries to make a pass up the left side it is now ludlow back with the ball number four mendes trying to make a play number eight cochi will end up with the ball he will make a pass up the right side and giroux once again making the aggressive play there i think he sees the speed on these ludlow attackers and knows that he has to play these balls earlier else they might have a chance at a breakaway brunel trying to make it a play there and he ends up with the ball but that foul will be called on bates so now ludlow with the free kick and it is caceres actually no number six ben riley taking this free kick he will put that ball very deep and a header goes out to paschetto pachetto pass it towards the middle and coach he ends up with the ball kochi trying to make a move here that ball will be directed back to caceres he makes a little pass to kochi kochi trying to use his speed to get to the outside he will make a through pass out to number 24 bushy and it ends up being a throw in i believe for past shadow [Applause] so does ludlow directing it back towards their attackers and drew once again ends up with that he'll make the deep kick so now well though trying to make a play up to number nine fair thumb and a foul will be called is mazza now making the free kick he'll play it towards weldon weldon it up to bates nice look there baits to the outside to presnot president trying to make a move here he taps it towards evans that a ball will end up going out of bounds off matthew mendez and it'll be dante bates now taking this throne with this opportunity for you sal meadow deep throwing plays towards the middle and now an opportunity for sal meadow and morneau is able to bury that but he's offside great opportunity for sal meadow there unfortunately they're just caught offside so it'll be a free kick for ludlow now that will be a bomb [Music] and president ends up with it on the outside but he can't control it and it'll be number 10 jokey therio making this throwing walden is able to make a play on it that ball ended up going out of bounds off stevens after the header pass to him keterio trying to make a play here it'll be caceres actually taking that throw in to number nine back to tario bates is able to make a nice defensive play there that ball goes deep back into love those defensive zone nice play by evans but they will call him on that was a tough call to make i would say i would honestly disagree with that evans i felt like he was all ball there number six ben reilly there to take the free kick now he will put it way right side true now there to receive the ball from the ball boy and it'll be a goal kick now drew puts it past midfield more now able to make a nice header on that and wow number 23 joke on calves steps up and hits i believe moreno could be mistaken though and watching that is something that has been going well those way tonight is i've seen walden make a few plays like that where it was a physical play and it went love those way and right there lodo makes a physical plane and it'll go lead those way once again so now mazz are there to receive that kick it'll be drew grabbing onto it free kick my mistake and drew will take that pun in his evan's trying to beat the goaltender there and he seemed to be out of the box before he was he was outside of the box before grabbing onto that ball so it'll be a free kick for esau meadow just a foot outside of the box this is a great opportunity they'll give it to mazza enzo mazza so he has a great opportunity either sunny or enzo mazzo we'll see what they decide to do here potentially a little trick play there by the mazzas to get that line from or to get that wall moving and after that they take the kick and it'll go too high so it is now i believe let's see if i can get the uh goaltender right thomas wadas i believe i could be wrong i don't i'm pretty sure it's devin santos or davon santos [Applause] but i may be mistaken so does evans now playing it to the middle a nice cross there defended and now ludlow is going the other way he makes a nice little move to the middle but that is defended off by pachetto nice play there it is stevens now advancing it to bates baits to the right side that pass will be directed towards more gnome now bates with the ball again moreno able to tap that out to quran kron passes it to mazza mazza with a nice pass to evans but it is just barely too far so ludlow's goalie is able to come out and grab that that is actually anthony shea in goal now for ludo there's just 30 seconds remaining blood though we'll try and make a play here with what time remains but issa meadow is able to intercept and the potential for a through pass to mazza was there but unfortunately it is deflected by a little defender weldon playing the body there it goes out to evans evans makes a pass to bates bates makes a nice move there out to mazza there's just two seconds remaining so nothing will come of that great move by baits there though impressive skills it is a one nothing game ludlow lions are leading the east salmon spartans we have a 10 minute half time and thank you for tuning in we'll see you in those 10 minutes time oh now [Music] [Applause] in that time i was gone i don't know if we got it on camera but eso meadow scored a goal to make it 1-1 within the first 37 seconds of the half that was number six colin evans assisting number three sunny mazza so it is a 1-1 game 39 minutes remaining in the second half [Applause] [Music] it is actually i believe it might have been colin evans assisted by sonny mazza so it is a one-one game between ludlow and esalmeta that ball ends up going out of bounds it'll be ben weldon taking the throw-in isla meadow wearing pink socks tonight in honor of breast cancer awareness month along with the crowd of eso meadow themed pink as well it is now coachy trying to gain possession of that ball while though back with it and number ten guitario advances up the right side to number nine fair thumb but it'll go out of bounds and it'll be weldon taking the throw-in [Music] so it'll be bates that you selma not going the other way brunel trying to get past that defender paschetto with the boot up field evan's now trying to gain possession of that ball he crosses it to the middle it is now mazza trying to gain possession for a shot and he is unable to two big opportunities for salman one they were able to capitalize the other they were not so it is now more note trying to gain possession off of that goal kick or sorry not a goal okay um just a pun and that ball got kicked all the way back out to drew and now it is i believe stevens with the ball here could be mistaken yep patrick stevens here to take this free kick he directs it towards the middle it is now quran trying to make a play off that stevens back out with it he tries to pass it is intercepted by kochie who's trying to make a move but mazzo able to grab it back coach he grabs onto his jersey that'll be a foul on him the free kick freestyle meadow stevens will take it i'll play it towards the middle and a nice shot on net to the top right side ludlow's goalie anthony shea able to come up big there as he makes the save he now goes to punt it be number 17 on love though getting a head on it bada it'll be back to baits bates will play it to the middle and coach you'll get a foot on it but now it ends up going back to caceres more now able to intercept a pass from caceres it'll now go up the left side there'll be mazza luke mazza and sonny mazza fighting for on the left side there bates taking the throw in here after it goes out off of a ludlow midfielder he throws it deep weldon coming up to make the play he misses so does now paschetto trying to make play and he also whiffs the first time but is able to regain control past tomorrow no back to quran quran puts it left side towards mazza mazz able to get by this defender he takes a deep shot it's unsuccessful and now bernal it goes out to the middle to brunell and east salmeado scores to make it 2-1 [Music] mazza able to get by his defender on the left side he takes a shot it is deflected off a ludlow player and it gets to vernell for the unassisted goal as he buries it low left side nice shot great way to capitalize on that deflection 34 30 remaining in the second half islamic just made it a 2-1 game after being down one nothing in after the first half they have been able to score two goals in the first five and a half minutes [Applause] trying to go the other way now it is drew able to grab onto that cross drew waits for his team to get out and he will take the pun that'll go deep [Music] there's now a free kick that'll be played up the right side a little too much curve on it it'll go out of bounds and be welding running up to take the throw in here it'll now be matt or evan's trying to hold on in the middle it'll be he'll be able to pass it out tomorrow now more now plays a deep right side to luke mazza that ball goes to the middle brunell gets another shot on net from outside the box another scoring opportunity for eso meadow is come out with momentum in the second half it'll be that goal kick will go out of bounds it will be piscetto here to make the throw in he will look to make it a pass towards evans brunel defending along with luke mazza and brunel ends up with the ball he passes it to weldon weldon puts it up to evans evans to mourinho pass to the middle luke mazza luke mazza with a nice tap pass to brunell and brunell takes a shot on that is just barely saved by that ludlow goaltender anthony shea and another opportunity for east salmeado and now they have a corner kick we'll see what they can do here he plays it to the middle and it's an outside shot now by koran and he can't get that past ludlow defenders so now it'll end up with colin evans on the left side who tries to make a move to the middle and he's able to and he seems to be pushed it'll now be a free kick for for issa meadow kochi not happy with that call and he is deciding to tie his shoes in front of the free kick seems to be on sportsmanlike so now we'll be i think what is that from the outside steven stevens gets a shot on that the ball does end up in the back of the net but it is after either a foul or an offside 31 remaining it'll be a goal kick now that'll be a bomb up field walden there to step up he passes it to evans evans taps it back to either mazza or morneau neither of them were able to get high enough to head that ball out of the air so now it is steven's back with the free kick stevens plays it to the middle it is an attempted header now brunel with an outside shot and it goes too right and too high once again brunel with another scoring opportunity he is on fire the second half i believe three or four shots so far all of them good opportunities for eso meadow 30 minutes remaining in the game so in just 10 minutes in the second half brunell has been able to get three or four shots on that there's paschetta on the right side here to take this throwing evans comes out ludlow ends up with the ball they're playing up the right side to number 18 samard samard trying to make a play on it steals the ball from stevens he gets a throw in now after it is tapped out of bounds smart with the throwing here he will direct that towards the middle is defended by issa meadow and now mazza tries to gain control it goes out of bounds so now ludlow will have a throw in here it'll be number four matthew mendez is weldon able to intercept that ball with a header now brunel trying to defend the mazza with a nice little deflection up the right side he's gonna make a play he's slowing things down looking at his options he's gonna make a move up the right side he's defended off by number 23.

was a task in itself the teachers are reporting that the students are progressing and they are happy to be in person teaching however they are overwhelmed even veteran teachers they are overwhelmed because of the constant sub shortage when there is a sub shortage elementaries end up taking kids that were split from a class with no sets in middle school and high school teachers often give up their prep in order to help out preparing is essential to all teachers and some are guilted into taking a class or being told that they will have extra kids in their class or even time carded with no chance to accept or decline in we even had an AWS teacher who was taken from her class to sub in another class and the assigned sub was given her class that means two classes learnings were just were disrupted and the ab USD teacher who came to work was penalized wants to state that we do not agree with this practice and hope the board doesn't either I have brought this up before adosd simply is not competitive in the high desert who would want to suffer avusd when you can drive 15 more minutes and make a third more pay sorry another issue that we recently went through was the staff of a local school both classified and certificated we're going to schedule a walkout because of the treatment by their admin awsd was able to stop it and a Buddha does not condone acts of this nature however the staff is fed up with their Administration and didn't know another way to show they need a change over 80 percent of the certificated staff has left that school in four years because of the school administration when are we going to stop playing in the staff and start blaming School leadership some of the things that the staff reported are as follows admin putting their hand in staff's faces when approached admin yelling at staff in person and on the phone admin taking away preps without asking the teachers if they wanted to give it up since the elementary prep is so new this should not happen if teachers do not want to give up their prep time they shouldn't have to being made too should not happen admin talking to staff about other staff members into screening admin crying at every staff meeting admin not responding to emails admin calling and yelling at a teacher while she's teaching for not doing something when the teacher had emailed her all of the information discipline kids are being sent back to class within 20 minutes after being disciplined or not this shows the other students it isn't a big deal to do something and get sent to the office admin constantly changing things but only letting some of the staff know admin scheduling things at the last minute the day of and expecting teachers to be flexible because the Administration has no schedule management time the worst is that the principal knows they won't get in trouble because others have reported things and it is ignored for example when I spoke to the admin when I was on campus to meet with the certificated staff without knowing what they had been through the admin said I'm going to treat this as a learning experience what learning experience that this staff is so frustrated with them that they're willing to walk out the response just showed me that the admin knows they aren't going to get in trouble and things will continue as usual the staff received the survey that made them give their email and have no autonomy several of the staff refused to answer or did not answer honestly because of the fear of Retribution by their Administration or District most of that site is new and fear of losing their job if they say anything most of this app is new because every year new teachers are non-reelected or just leave because they can't handle the inconsistencies at this site lastly there was a post by parents on Facebook about this school and admin there were 222 responses in one evening I have given you the post and comments to see that the parents have been pushed past their limits as well why does the staff have to work under these conditions no one should be yelled at by admin or have their hands put in their face when are we honestly going to listen to the staff and take action this has been four years of complaint but nothing gets done the certificated members feel they have no voice because nothing is ever corrected when is the district going to stop protecting the admin and start listening to the staff years ago awsd would have demoted this admin when the whole staff got involved but not now instead we protracted the admin and we blame it on the staff we need this to be taken seriously I'm asking you as a board to take action and investigate avuta believes that an outside source source should investigate this because the aduf awsd admin is involved and taking the side of the administration please seriously consider an investigation discipline and listening to the staff this school will keep on losing zap because of the issues and it makes me sad because I would not willingly teach at that site due to the problems with the administration isn't our motto students first these kids at this site need the teachers the most teachers are creatures are happy and do not like change so if 80 of the veterans staff have left shouldn't we be investigating why this causes learning issues for the students and constant change because the teachers are leading in masses I know that awsd will tell you it isn't that bad or that Christie's just complaining and not all true this is why I'm asking you to get involved to hear what the teachers have undergone and anonymously survey them so that they can tell you the truth thank you for your time and for listening to these issues we genuinely want what's best for students a Buddha believes what is best for students is a happy organized and productive school where this Gap is praised not punished thank you [Applause] okay we're here the problem here is leadership that's why we're in a room with 50 people here instead of 550 because that room was packed and none of you guys saw any of that they were cheering and shouting and screaming at all these people up here talking and none of you guys saw because you chose to be in a smaller building you said your poor officer is up for failure because rather than having a bigger room so everybody could hear you and hear what's going on you have to live stream of which causes problems so we missed almost two hours of the school board meeting tonight sir as previously stated inappropriate conduct disturbing or willful Interruption of any board meeting shall not be permitted so we couldn't hear the entire school board meeting us so as people as the people who pay or paychecks and are demanding answers we have the right to know so if that is not available out there what are you guys going to do to fix it and how are we going to fix the problem if when I go home tonight to watch this how am I going to voice my opinion when I got home you guys are at home the speakers an hour and 50 minutes next door there was pretty much no volume other than complete feedback all we heard was back and forth we're all just here so because you're a kid we're here for them but you're not locked out over an hour and 50 years it won't happen again when we have the next meeting we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna take care of it because the meetings are going to be getting uh more people coming to them we know it was a disaster back there and we're going to change it and we own a lot of property we have our word that we're going to do it take your word now take my word and it'll be me I know I'm just saying we are going to take care of them all right can we can we just right now thank you can we can we just move on so that we can get back to it um the board May approve the agenda as is or ADD and or pull items from the consent agenda for discussion and our action we need to approve the agenda as is approve the item second all in favor all right um any opposed we have discussion I item uh plus we're on E measure s bond in information by Mr schulenberg thank you in response to a question by a board member previously regarding the measure facilities bond this is just some information for the board if you recall in March of 2004 the voters approved the issuance of 36 million in Geo bonds to fund various projects throughout the district those were funded in two separate issuances one in October of 2004 and one in June of 2006.

joe goncalves and that ends up going up field and out of bounds it is now coachy with the throwing here nice play by mazza and a good hustle by him he was almost able to make an opportunity out of that so now that goes out of bounds by number 24 garrett boucher holding onto it passes it that is a kick from the outside left and it goes straight to the center into drew's hands so now drew with the pun he's going to play all the way up to presnel president not able to get ahead on that midfield bates is able to get a foot on that welding once again just coming up with the physical play no card though it is now coachy no who would it be number 21 for ludlow thomas wadas taking the free kick here from the outside he'll try and put that on that and a scramble in the middle and a shot from the outside and it goes bar down shot by kochi he makes it a 2-2 game the scramble for the ball ended up going back outside of the box right to cochi who was able to take a shot which was pretty wide open and he puts it bar down it is a 2-2 game 26 remaining i'm unsure who the assist was possibly was unassisted [Music] no assist on that goal goal scored by sam kochie [Music] [Applause] so now kickoff will end up in islam hands for a throwin it'll be pashetto playing it to grinnell burnell tries to tap it to the middle it is coachy now after his goal passing it up to the left side number 19 diaz trying to make a play so now ludlow back and number four mendes tries to make a play there but it ends up kicked back out and he's somewhat a defender and out of bounds for a throw-in and bates now able to get a foot on that and deflects it off of a ludlow player to go out of bounds it'll be bates with the throw in here 25 remaining in the second half it is a 2-2 game right now kochi is there to intercept that with a header it'll be monroe and kron there trying to make a play weldon plays it up to monroe monroe trying to use his speed to get up to that ball he's able to defend it and now going the other way but ludlow ends up back backflip it'll be caceras playing up the right side and now number 21 for ludlow wadas taking shot from the outside now drew comes up with a big save there so drew now with the goal kick he plays it to monroe monroe tapping it out to quran quran trying to make a play and [Music] there's now monroe on the left side it is now played to pashetto paschetto advancing it up to the striker and it is just a bit too far for presnel so sheal grab on to that and a ludlow player is down on the field they have stopped play for that he seems to be hurt pretty badly we will be back in a moment well the player is able to get up and it is now shea with the punt to midfield that'll be played by dante bates dante bates tries to redirect it to morneau but is not able to get there it is now number 17 for ludlow making a move to the middle that would be enzo botta nice play by him to get a shot off but it is too far to the left it is now giroux with the goal kick here 23 remaining in the second half president playing it up to munroe sorry that might have been evans yep evans now with the ball in the middle and is defended off out to paschetto tries to play it up to monroe and that will be too far and is booted out of danger's area there's kron now trying to make a play on that up to presnel fresno touching it up field and now that is deflected nice little pass to evans evans to monroe monroe with a chance here he's overwhelmed by defenders that is back out to kochi kochi plays it to the left side and now that ball's played all the way up to number 17 bada and anne's back out with cochi coach he's slowing things down looking at his options he's trying to make a move bob the back with the ball bottom making a move on the left side he crosses it to the middle that is successfully defended by stevens stevens makes a play up to evans passes a bit too far there's now more no to brunel brunel makes a little pass to evans evans with the pass to monroe monroe to brunel brunel with a chance here he makes a through pass towards fresno but it is a little bit too forward and it goes out to shea shae here with the pun gets to coach he have midfield cochita bada bada now with back with the ball and he's defended now number nine fair thumb trying to make a play here but it ends up as a free kick for islam so now evan's now with the ball to ends up with grinnell burnell passes it back out to paschetto paschetto with a what may have been a passed out to president president trying to make a move on the left side maybe making a cross but it is defended off muldo now moving it the other way but weldon is able to make a nice defensive maneuver there that pass is directed towards monroe on the right side who's using his speed to get up to it monroe looking to make a move here he's gonna cross it now out to evans evans tries to make a little touch pass to brunel but it is intercepted it's now going the other way once again that's played up to the last side bait's there to defend bates is just gonna box out and he is successfully able to until it goes out of bounds on at the end line nice play by bates there there's now drew with the kick out to midfield it'll be welding now with the ball be fresno trying to play it there and walden tries to step up [Music] with a nice defensive play there to get it out of danger's area and now it is bono with a good chance here he takes the lefty kick and is a big save by benjaroo [Music] as he kicks out his leg to block that shot outstanding save and now just steps up into him and he is down hard number 21 [Music] waldos bloodlow crowd is not happy that there is no call waldos is able to get up to make the free kick here and a what i believe is a card is being held out to ashjetto yes it is a card is being held out to pass shadows see that is dangerous for east sal meadow i don't know if that's their 12th or not and from what i've heard they're only allowed 13 in the season what that might mean is that they are not allowed a single card for the rest of the season which they're just over halfway through and that is combined cards from jv and varsity so if my information is correct that is very bad for you salmetta jeru able to come up big on that free kick as he just grabs onto it and he directs it right out to fresno presnel passes it to brunel burnell tapping it up to evans evans with a nice little pass to brunel brunel holding it on the left side he taps it out to evans evan's trying to make a play and that goes out of bounds off the defender it'll be a throw-in now freestyle meadow it is now monroe coming out and also president coming out for luke mazza in sunny mazza 1755 remaining in a deep shot what a goal was that number 14 that may have been i uncertain what number or what who that was that might have been josh riley from outside just a bomb it was josh riley number 14 from outside and the whole team comes out to celebrate the bench is freaking out i believe that was his first goal of the season he is hyped up after that am i mistaken i believe that was [Music] it was josh riley unassisted goal just a boot from outside there's 17 minutes remaining it is a 3-2 game a big goal by riley his first of the season and an important one it is now evans carrying it up the middle he's trying to get by his defender he taps it back out to mazza mazza trying to make the play that ball will end up going out of bounds off a ludlow defender 3-2 game here 17 minutes remaining and that ball actually went out off a isometro attacker presumably mazza and it'll be a ludo throwing ball is now directed back up to evans who tries to take the outside shot off a volley and it goes a little too high it is now goal kick for ludo close game we have here if you're just tuning in 3-2 josh riley just scored the tiebreaker there's 16 and a half minutes remaining as what has been a back and forth game so far that ball will go out of bounds off blood though it'll be dante bates coming in to take the throw in dante bates plays it out to mazza mazza plays it up the right side to evans but it is intercepted love them now controlling the ball coaching on the left side that ball goes out of bounds off of weldon so it is now kochie taking the throw in no it will be number 21 thomas waddass taking the throne i'm sorry if i'm butching your name so now that is a deep kick directed towards the right side and it'll go over ludlow attacker number nine's head but he's able to get a touch on it before it goes out of bounds it is now he's some meadow with the ball and that goes out of bounds so ludlow now with the throne here they have 15 minutes to make something happen before this game ends is three to two maz on the right side he makes a move to the outside it goes out of bounds number five corbin will take the throw in here corbin looking up field to cochi cochi making a move and he goes out of bounds as well it is now weldon now it'll be bates taking the throw in bates looks towards walden weldon taps it up to what was meant for baits but it goes a bit too far it goes out to mourinho but coach he ends up with the kochie passing up the right side is riley making the play on it now stevens carrying it up field stevens making some dribble moves towards midfield it is stolen back out to love those right back to their center back into their left back now and weldon tries to make a body on that play and he misses and that ball will end up going out of bounds off bates is a throw-in for love though number 21 we'll take it and he will look to capitalize on this opportunity he directs it towards number 24 on ludlow that goes back out to number four matthew mendez but goes out of bounds off mendez and is now bates here to take the throne bates plays it up field with the throne it directs back to him he's able to make a header to evans evans plays it to the middle with a through pass to what was meant for maz and it is just barely fended off evan's now with the throwing they've changed their mind i believe it'll be bates coming in to take the throne he plays it up to i'm unsure the target was there one of the two players in that area and ludo ends up with the ball that is directed towards kochi but brunel ends up with it brunel passing up the left side it is evan's in a race evans ends up with it he passes it out to quran kron with a nice little ship pass and that ball ends up in the hands of shea shea makes the pass up the left side to number 21 what us what else racing with brunel here brunel able to make the defensive play and walden weldon intercepts that that definitely went off of a loved out player although love though trying to convince the referee otherwise it is now beats holding onto the ball for throwing he plays it up and it is intercepted by ludlow defender and quran now in a battle for this ball is kochi making a play to the left side to number 24 bouchet now back to kochie coach he makes a little move there to boucher out to number 21 he makes a fake shot now he takes an actual shot and it is giroux out to make the save number 18 gabe samard bumps into the shoulder of giroux and what maybe could have been a call is not so it is now evans no sorry mazda midfield he passes the left side to mourinho now it is evans evan saves it from going out of bounds and that ball will be kicked up field i love the defender but he's somewhat of trying to go the other way with it now there's more no now with a throwing ten minutes remaining in this second half it is 3-2 sparrins in this big game trying to make a play here and that shot almost goes in and it goes in off monroe with a header after it goes off the post originally monroe is able to get there for the rebound to make it 4-2 with a little insurance goal ludlow unhappy with that goal seeming pretty defeated big goal for isa meadows scored by number one michael monroe with 9 38 remaining 4-2 game that is big that is a big goal for you some meadow and it is now a timeout called by ludlow's head coach they will try and slowly saw meadows momentum scored by number one mike monroe [Applause] why don't i know i know after that goal ludlow calls a timeout to try and slowly sell models for momentum and get their team's head in the game here is 4-2 now 9 38 remaining in the half in the second half and ludlow will go here and make it take the kick off and once again they make that aggressive play like they did at the start of the game playing it up the right side off the kickoff to try and get their right wing up there that'll be a throw in taken by some meadow it is now more now making a play on that that ball gets out to i think fresno president will not able to make a play on that it was michael monroe with the insurance goal back there now ludlow going the other way and monroe is trying to defend with walden here in the corner now cochi almost able to make a play in the box there and bates will just boot it out to burn clock 8 25 remaining he somehow is up by two they just need to hold on to this lead is bait's in the middle now he's gonna try and hold on i just played up the left side giroux comes out inside of the box and he again just won't pick it up he'll just sit there and we'll burn clock he kicks it past midfield he's some metal will probably be doing a lot of holding on to the ball and not making any plays with it it's bates now trying to control on the right side is stolen weldon in a battle with kochie that gets out to bates bates on the right side and he will just kick it deep it is now president with the ball fresno trying to make a move gets by one guy but can't get by the second that'll be played deep up to kochi and stevens will be there to try and make the play and giroud just trips up kochi there inside of the box i felt like that was pretty much all ball especially after that jersey grabbed by kochi and kochi is now down seemingly injured either injured or trying to sell the call there as it's inside the box and they need [Music] they need a goal here that was inside the box drew coming out to check on them so i won't be over tilted [Applause] coach is able to walk off the field now it'll be a throw in here for ludlow one of their best players is now out he has one of their goals with a nice bar down shot and is now number 21.

since then we've actually gone through some refunding which would be likened to a refinancing we issue new bonds to prepaid the existing we exchange High interest rate bonds for lower interest rate bonds and we do not extend the repayment term we've done that twice uh once in May of 2013 we did refinance a portion of each of the series a and series B and we did it again in 2016. so we currently do have four bond issuances that are currently being paid back now how those bonds are paid back because this is voter approved debt from an election in March of 2004 the San Bernardino County Levy's what's called an ad valorem property tax to properties within Apple Valley Unified School District the San Bernardino County Tax Collector collects those ad valorem taxes and then makes those Bond payments on behalf of Apple Valley Unified School District those funds are held in fund 51 which is one of our operating funds it is on our financial books and you'll see information about fund 51 when I present the unaudited actuals each September however we do not control those funds those funds are all controlled at the county this is a remaining aggregated payment schedule this means this is all four Bond issuances combined and what the payments are now until the end of the term you'll see we make a payment or I'm sorry the county makes a payment out of that ad valorem tax that's collected every February and every August and you'll look at those amounts three pages and you'll see the final payment there August of 2030 so we still have approximately nine years on repayment while the ad valorem tax will continue to be collected by the San Bernardino County and those Bond payments will be made the total remaining Debt Service is about 18 and a half million dollars of principal and 11 million dollars of interest for a total of 29.5 million remaining to be paid from that ad valorem tax and again uh in response to Mr so's question the final measure s Bond payment will be August 1st of the year 2030.

school right now is the school board put the people of Apple Valley into a smaller room because they don't want a new nuisance a larger gym that's going on over here so we currently have people screening at the front door to allow us to be hurt so I just wanted that to be noted and I call up alone they excuse to use a small room rather than the larger room where auditing purposes is microphone right here wasn't working earlier I call this to be discrimination residents of Apple Valley and the local taxpayers um that this is the Discrimination To None of Apple Valley so that should be noted too um also I mean I look at you guys wearing a mask and it was your guy's Vision to put us in this in the smaller so I don't know why you're wearing a mask if covet moving nine is by so-called friend of hers this little girl girl in the role of Don King so the fight was promoted until I see people Academy in the Apple Valley Unified School District this girl girl yelled and her daughter she wanted to fight my daughter responded no and walked away as my daughter literally walked away she was punched punched in the back head it took securely several minutes and the girl went to that office where I received an is back the other girl received a tiny two-day suspension this guy's not even been looking after him he's on his cell phone a phone down disrespectful man what I'm currently to my children and myself at the Gracie School of Jiu Jitsu the next time I'm interested physically attack myself or anyone in my family these are the steps we're gonna take first we always avoid a physical but if we are struck in the back head wow with what is necessary to defend ourselves the first option is to put the attack of submission and to tell security arrives at the Apple security guard regards to call police he's put the persons in the handcuffs and place them on them under us California rolls are named starting to today I'm going to be an advocate for self-defense and change the rules of retaliation into self-ins my children would not be asleep my children will defend themselves and they will not be punished for doing so that's it [Music] [Applause] good evening hi I'm my name's Nicole and I'm an employee here at Apple Valley United and I've been in cell for about five and a half years now um I love of working for Apple Valley Unified because I worked with some of the best people uh for five five years I wore Human Resources um that I've ever ever met made me feel completely well where we served the public together with Grace and love we have we had a purse and we served it well but but for some reason over the past 18 months I feel that that culture has changed see we're in a war though that seemed to not look like a war it is divisive it causes a segregation it causes hate and it pins one side against another without any rationalization of what what's happening because I'm a parent of a vaccine and gendered child it's a choice that said I ate that will always always regrets of my life Stan made that voice in order to come work here because I thought that was for the greater good where I could be at home with my children and working 12 hour night shifts like like I have done for the 12 years prior to working here I'm me and my husband have six children that was pretty hearty hard raising half asleep and so that made me have to make make the decision to go against my purple leaves of vaccinating my children before before the age of five he's he's the youngest of our sixth and I vaccinated any of the other one before the age of five because I have a medical backpack I know that the brain develops within the first five and a half years of life um it's quite ironic that the uh they're talking about you know approving vacancies for five to eleven there's a great medical reason for that that they won't go younger I made this this decision against my better instincts and my son has suffered suffered for it for the 3.5 years with medical intervention and no acknowledging of the fact that the reactions came from the vaccine I'm not an antibactive person I'll miss you that like I said my other children are vaccinated they'll received zero Health Western medicine we've seen every dermatologist there was went to ER multiple times and my skin was literally fully falling off Audi and oozucine protein his Labs were out of I I don't even don't even have the word can see I don't have the speech in front of me I probably went five times and stepped it where are the people that care about parents that actually have a very fearing this brand new biologic that has been being represented that we have to take it in order to save others where is the representation for parents that we have a legitimate reason there there's no representation and that has to stop [Applause] let me go excuse me as previously stated inappropriate conduct disturbance of willful in turn of any board meeting shall not be permitted because the season is born in individual or group shall be ground for the chair to terminate the privilege led by during the meeting at this time removal of the disruptive person destinies all right [Music] [Applause] Nicole Hoover Joey luck [Music] right here my name is Joey Luke I'm a log Plum resident of the hideo desert currently have had three children with an apusd and one who has graduated from here tonight I'm not not here just to support the freedom choose what chemicals go into my child's body body dressing issue is the issue that's going on at setting Academy it's just recently certainly come to mention that my seventh grade at studying volleyball Academy and sexually fully buying the boy there's this boy has approached my son in the bathroom told him he didn't need to tell him to stall so he can rail him this is a term that they use these days great he is also the approach him two other times on campus children is going to come into my home to bring myself I have personal experience with this is in the second grade at the time and he's now ready what sexually assaulted morally rate on AMU USA property you're gonna go to this court he was too too terrified to tell us the only reason why we found out is because it detective went up when she talked to my husband when he picked him up sorry please what would you how would you feel if this happened to your innocent child this was a traumatic dramatic experience that is a lasting effect on physical well-being and there's a name for it at first first experiences no one should have to be active when there is a way to protect our children it's come to my attention that parents are having similar similar experiences that I'm in the same instances of bullying and the form actual assault consult inundation these other pair being told by the principal that his hands are tied this is as unacceptable the primary marriage job was to ensure all children are safe and have the ability to free an appropriate education instances a behavior permitting through the care of the campus action taken him by adults teaching the full bully that he can away with it my only action is taken to stop something insistent Society substance there's actually an ed code written into a dress which you guys are all familiar with about about bullying Ed code 40 and 100 Enterprise bullying everybody you guys can look I have a lot of it on here but don't have enough time these threats definitely qualify as according to the Ed the principled hands are tied he can make making a difference I implore you to open the investigation as to the threats made to my son to take action sure that all children will live on your campus it alarm starts me to where this bully holy has learned that this talk and behavior is acceptable either his home life needs to be best investigated and working easy psychiatric help because becoming a predator thank you thank you [Applause] while Gabe is coming up here together is they love car here congratulations if Chris lost it here please get ready because you'll be next after let him speak in here he'll speak when he comes hello everyone my name is Taylor Carr a lot of me is your local delivery guy here um um I first thought about ending this because of other issues but uh I have I first plan to hear to speak speaker because of my troll I've had an experience of being bullied being bullied [Music] being bullied and not being able to recognize who did it because of a mass ass I had on their head they can't tell who is or what's going on because of it and ask them about about camera do you have video of it you guys have signs saying you're under video surveillance and I asked asked about at least we don't know where the cameras are set up a lot of them are dummy camera you have Wiki cameras kids that are getting molested and raped and what else is going on that's not right half of the cameras get rid of the dummy candy cameras get the cameras out there you can see what's going on because some little boy boy put hands on like my daughter and then twist her arm behind and they can't do nothing about it that's that's not right and everything they're expensive just get the camera so our kids are safe safer at schools and the whole Mass thing we could she could have recognize who it was it was he didn't have to have the mass face oh I'm asking for of course put the money towards towards the kids their safety this all this issue could have been done and we're with because I've had the time to talk to my principal multiple times and there's nothing happening because they're like we can't recognize them we can't this this we can't if the cameras were working working you guys stay on all the fences your underserved surveillance you guys could have found out who's putting hands on my daughter and then like the camera was with other people with the bully bullying going on there if they had the cameras and they didn't know who it was cameras would have caught it get recorded every day at work dropping packages I am held accountable for that can we hold you guys accountable putting cameras in Our Stars to keep our our kids safe because if I like a lot of people people their kids out of here for the Band-Aid of the mass the Mandate of the vaccine and not even our choice and I know I know I know a lot of you guys on board teachers friends Pringles teachers teachers you guys since I was a little kid I don't like speaking in public so you know I'm this this is sensitive to me right here right now so can you guys please do something about that and and I'm not really here to here to talk about that all that stuff everybody everybody else can say that I care before I knew that thing was going on talk about the bullying going on in our school [Applause] is this Gabe yeah you know give Lovato it's gave me are there gabeaux I'm called call I'm gonna do a speaker about the um issue with the boy I'm going into the restroom on this concerned parent I have to go there I must told Holden that it wasn't a transgender issue so that brings the question in is what is they'll be doing in the girls restroom and I I appreciate the point where you guys can't express what's happened I I get so you can hear a lot of ifs right so if this happened right what do you read about it it if is this the first time that happened whether if this has happened are there other people that have been victimized is there victimizing going we don't know the answer to those things if this happened at the elementary school level this boy did not belong on the junior high so side should be at a school where it's not mixed with a campus with elementary school kids it's to not be there uh at the same time this kid cannot be cast aside is an issue you listen now get him some psychology get him a counselor get something the board will help this kid because if you we're going to be here in a few years with a new incident of this happening again and that's and that's okay this is not okay and I hope that you've taken this serious because from what I just heard earlier this is way worse than ice than I even imagined I was gonna say they had nothing to do than this but what I'm hearing is way worse than what I've been told thank you for your time foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] student going into the girls restroom room and uh ropings uh trying to play with him that's not how it's not it's it's wrong you guys know the right and nothing to do and right now you guys are doing wrong not taking action against this issue the other parents here that had this in this issue I didn't know that until just now standing up you're talking about that I thought I was gonna be doing this issue look uh Pat I reached out to you last last you did a job talking to me and me about you talk to Mr Harrison he's the god of God that's your words I called all of them he said that uh pretty much well they're gonna monitor him they're going to ask for him to the restroom so what's going to happen when uh he gave me the restroom during the class and no parents there or just no well staff because they're a little bit uh you know slow or they're just they're just just down on a Manpower so you don't have enough manpower right now you could cope with this problem because why people could be off the code so what's this one he's in the restroom staying there for a little while is he in the right restroom probably not he made girls restroom oh wait it's on for the other for the younger kids they're gonna come on in well this is what happened several different times this is what I've heard from myself my seventh grader coming to me saying that she does he doesn't feel safe cool because I was going on that's a problem Mr Harrison when I said him he said safety was never a priority doesn't seem like him like it if this is still still going and other parents are talking about and you guys are aware of it right um this boy is showing signs of predatory behavior at any age you know we know I don't know his background we don't know his background okay so there's been an evaluation process right right but he's been going through an evaluations to get on campus that can just be reevaluated so hopefully uh this doesn't happen happen again you know an ongoing problem doesn't look you guys does it no I mean people are talking about a parent pulling their kids kids at school pulling yeah yeah that's that's just the least you guys worries really um so you know we we bring our Capital Valley uh Unified School District to to learn to throttle and uh kids can't do these type of things we need to go to the restroom safe they can't even you know get bullied and all that that's wrong that's that's not good so what am I gonna have to parent send my kid to school with with better spray to do for yourself to teach her how to fight and and and what's going to happen with them with them thank you what's going to happen the kid once once Michael thank you what's gonna happen what's good what's gonna they're gonna be good as previously will you go back back and have it please your time's up [Applause] Banfield Ben litfield is Chris Castillo here [Music] thank you foreign I come to you as a concerned resident and my kids don't go to this District they go to the spirit Creek and many of you know me or seen me without within the community various activities one thing that I'm asking for you by struggling out these these folks in your community it's wrong I understand from the perspective effective I'm on his youth just like everybody board members here as well and I understand that this is a genderized item it definitely shouldn't agenda's item held in a play place to accommodate everybody's voice voice here I hope that everybody is here tonight I I know that your guys's policies are different and I understand that and respect that job tonight is not easy any means and move forward but I'm here to tell you that you don't have to submit to these vaccine mandates coming down now let's look at how how California operates they go go federal law laws not just as mandates frequently and that's acceptable us leaders just have the opportunity here to take the stand there are many [Applause] talk to community leaders through various aspects of sex you will have support I told all this to the Hesperia School District over there you have to have support I will support you person on this if you guys take a stand and do a do what's right gotta learn this mandate for vaccines to affect our students it doesn't stop with right now 12 and over we're already already Sizer that they're trying to hit the 5 through 11.
