But also, yeah. Yeah, I'll I'll see what we can do. Hopefully, we can. I'll see if we need to have a quick vote at the full committee level to charge us with coming up with an in-depth transportation. I'm writing that down for myself. >> Hopefully with the transportation director as well. >> Oh, yes. >> I would love to see some department heads at these little subcommittee meetings, too. >> Yeah. Anytime you want to invite him. >> Okay. But um member Goodwin did meet with the transportation director and I probably within the last month. Yep. >> So she's a wealth of knowledge. Member Goodwin is >> I think got down to the maintenance level though. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um next question. Um can we inhouse communication and PR for a cost savings of $3,000 a month? Could this be for our ghs TV groupic design?
It's not just changing schedules for those of you that wonder. Their work goes in all different directions. And more than anything, you're there for our kids, and that's what matters to me most as a superintendent. So, you winning this award is a big deal for Gilbert Public Schools, big deal for Mesquite High School, and it's just a win for counselors in general. So, congratulations. Thank you. You shake hands? >> Right in the middle of >> Right in the middle, buddy. Here. You're it. Congratulations again to all of our people. That concludes it for this evening. Yep. All right. Wow, so many of you stayed. Usually that's where the everybody goes, but not tonight. All right, we're going to take care of some action items out of order here, as we mentioned earlier. And we are going to, let's see, start with 9.02. I approve Carrie Castro as principal at Mesquite High School for the 2026-2027 school year.
If if we're going to do things right. And so, that's why that proposal was there. Correct. Okay, thank you. That that um that makes sense. Um I just want to thank um Mr. Kylie and Dr. Seaman Maguire for uh um dropping back and and working on this so quickly. Um And um thank you for all of the information you provided today. I do I can turn back over to Ms. Coughlin um if she Sure. Sorry about that. No, no worries. Um so I mean >> Sometimes it's good to be thrown into the deep end. Well, this was a gentle deep end I would say cuz it's uh limited scope. Um so obviously I missed a bunch. Um I I really appreciate um the town sharpening their pencil and finding more money for us. Um I think the schools need this um and they need more than the 4.5 but I I feel that we as the school committee can't ignore the revenue problems of the town and the restraints they are against.
So, those would be things that you would disclose it, you verify. Um, read prohibited giving teacher feedback on final grades. I never want robots to replace me. Um, so I would never just feed papers in and say there's your grade. Um, so that is definitely a no no. IEP generation. Um, human oversight required like Brandon was saying, no PII. So being really careful about that and uploading student records PII into public models. So those would be totally prohibited. So student guidelines um we worked a lot on the language of this because we really want our students at the high school and the middle school to understand sort of these um tools. So the golden rule is unless explicitly permitted by a teacher student should assume that AI tools are not allowed for assignments. So that's kind of the bottom line. Um, in terms of what would be green, the student would be using using AI as a tutor, getting unstuck after a productive struggle, asking AI to explain a concept, or quizzing oneself on material.
Most have posts between 0 to 22 engagement on face and Facebook has 563 followers. Instagram 0 to 29 engagement per post and 416 followers. >> Yeah. So, some of some issues I've come from and you probably would see in your subbing days now at career tech schools or both schools is >> um and I first started my career at a career tech school was the vice principal there is that you try not to turn your shops into production or your your classes. So, >> for example, the print shop um at Putham High School when I was there, right? Um there's 45 schools in the city and they all want envelopes printed with their names on them or stationery, right? and all your kids are doing is printing paper and envelopes all year long, right? So they basically saying same with culinary, right? You're not running a restaurant five days a week.
Is there a motion? >> I move that we approve Carrie Castro as principal at Mesquite High School for the 2026-2027 school year. >> Thank you, Mr. Brainard. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Ms. Murray. I Is there any any comments or anything anything anybody like to say? Okay, then let's do it. All those in favor of approving Carrie Castro as principal at Mesquite High School for the 2026-2027 school year, say I. >> I.
Um so um I would like to try to meet that 4.5% increase and uh since I came late to this party um did the full-day kindergarten funds come up because I do believe that um we should just we need to use it at some point and it seems like this is a good time and I don't know if it could um it could help with unfunded um things within the budget or um the possible key factor cuts. Like I'm not saying it should just go to one but if we reduced all a little bit could go to each so that we could still be making forward progress. What I want to see is not us going backwards. I want us to see us moving forward cuz once you lose ground it's very hard to make it up. Um so um that's where I stand and I am sorry that I am late.
We have some really um kind of advanced AI student users. They'll put in study guides, make me flashcards, make me a podcast, lots of cool things. They know more uh often than we do in terms of how to use it. Um, in terms of yellow, thinking of AI as a collaborator still requires permission um, and citation. So, drafting support and outlining um, checking for grammar. A lot of our students have uh, basic Grammarly and some of them have the more advanced Grammarly. Um, so that would be yellow and then image generation for slides. So, those would all be things that um, you know require permission from the teacher and then you'd have to site how you used it. And then in terms of for the students, what we don't want them to do is use AI as a substitute which would be a violation of the academic um integrity policy.
You might open it a couple days a week because your kids need to learn and do different things. So that's one just one of the issues in terms of pushing it off on others to do, right? Um, similar to big schools, a career school wouldn't just do their landscaping if they had grounds because they'd be cutting grass 5 days a week and they'd never learn how to fix an engine or do anything like that. Um, those types of things. So, those are one thing. Um, the other thing that I've seen, and I don't have the history again coming in, I know that you had looked at it last year, but it gets to be who individually wants to take over. Not never mind just the job itself, but the accounts, right? there. I remember when I started here last July, there was issue with the accounts of who wants to put Facebook under there personally because it has to be tied to some extent to like personal >> account.
>> Any opposed? And that passes. Thank you. >> Hi, Carrie. New principal of Mesquite High. Congratulations. Would you like to come up and say a few words? Yeah, no. Let me Let me Let me rephrase that. Come up and say a few words. You got to turn the microphone on. You need me to show you how. >> How do you do that? Is that good? Oh, that's good. Oh, goodness. Okay, my heart's beating real fast, so um I just want to take a moment to say thank you to the board. Um thank you to Dr. McCord. I've been with um Gilbert for 5 years now, four of them at Mesquite Junior, and I love that school, and so it was a big decision. Um but I know I'm supported by so many, Marcy Taylor and everyone else in um superintendency. But um I'm very excited.
Um so, I'm assuming everybody else has said their piece and asked their questions. Yeah, I think Mr. Noons um wants to comment on the kindergarten stabilization fund. Great. Would the Would Ms. Clavell like to hear my rant again? Uh if you could uh reduce the No, I'm I'm kidding. No problem. In all seriousness, ma'am, uh I had a conversation with uh Mr. Kylie this morning and it was more what to the point like you just said about using uh that stab fund to uh fix the uh music increase, the the 15 grand there, the 107 for athletics. I did not mention to Mr. Kylie and I apologize for that, but to uh just thinking about it, using the using an additional 15,000 for the uh athletic coordination stipend to give Mr. Cristofoli some help. And then whatever was left to uh you know, it it would be uh 140, 160 somewhat thousand, give or take, uh to put back into that into the maintenance increase, you know, Mr.
So full generation of essays or reports uh copy and pasting solutions like in science and math really anytime that you're bypassing thought processes. So those would be things that we want them to know that they cannot do. And then of course context matters. Um and in terms of departments, it sort of depends on what you are assessing. So the humanities you know we may with permission uh once we know kids can already outline or already brainstorm maybe we would say okay so you can use this as an assistant to get your ideas out there but we wouldn't want them to generate essays you know write me an essay about this book um or even uh generating you know full summaries. We really want them to still engage with the text. Uh math, you know, with permission, generating practice problems, but obviously not solving assigned problems directly.
Um, and similar to the cell phone issue, right? You start getting into that just muddy area of everybody saying, "Yep, not my job and not tying it to my Facebook account here on that one." So, I don't know a lot of the the prehistory and I don't know how long we've had um the current, you know, communication setup that you're using. >> Okay. >> And with Instagram being a part of Facebook, I assume the same thing with needing to tie to a personal account would apply to Instagram as well. >> I don't want to speak I don't want to do Instagram because I don't know. >> You're correct, but you're also correct. >> All right. Instagram came with Superintendent Patnau. We were just um we were not there was there was a level of how far do we go with social media and I think the accountability piece.
I want to thank my my crew that came from Mesquite Junior, and then we have crew from Mesquite High, and Shawn Lynch, the current principal Mesquite High, because he gave me my first admin job ever. So, I'm super thankful to um continue what I've started at Mesquite Junior and continue on with a lot of those same kids because next year, every kid that came through Mesquite Junior to Mesquite High will be someone that I have been the principal with, so it's very near and dear to my heart, and I love that community and the staff there, so um and my family, I like to thank them, too, cuz I just feel supported on on all areas, so thank you, and um I'll do my best. Thank you. >> All right, 9.03. Uh is there a motion to approve Elise Torbert as principal of Globe Gilbert Classical Academy for the 2026-2027 school year?
Kylie talked about preventive maintenance and things of that nature. So, that was basically what I said. With regards to the stab fund. Okay, I'm I'm I'm on board with you. Um But I'm also I'm also not sure as I mentioned because last night at the selectmen's meeting they were supposed to go over the the warrant articles and then close the warrant. So, will they reopen it for us type of deal for an article of this nature or you know, because that could also open Pandora's box for somebody else. Well, if you do it for one, you got to do it for another. That type of deal. I don't know. So, that's my concern. Does anyone know the the answer to that question? They at the select board's meeting last night, they they did vote to um close the warrants. I do I I am not sure if that is limited to all new articles or citizens petition articles.
Science summarizing research, not just generating a lab report or conclusions. And world language, you know, sort of defeating the purpose of language acquisition if you're just translating like full sentences. So, what I like about this slide is it kind of shows that we have this district policy, we have a schoolwide policy, but then in departments, we're having some really good discussions about what what we're assessing, what is the purpose of our assignments so we can all get on the same page. >> And if I could just interrupt for one second, um the process focused ideas permitted versus product focus prohibited. If you're using it for the process, great. If you're using it to create the product, not great. Yeah. >> Um and then the the last uh slide that I'll talk about is redefining academic integrity. Um so it's really shifting from did you use it to how did you use it?
I think it's really who does it has to have some um you just see too many things. um at the tech school they actually have shut down their web media because there are not enough um students signing up for it. I think this senior class is the last. >> So, >> and for the we've only been doing communication since >> Okay. Oh, but I remember your guy from Judy whole days. He did co >> Yes, that that was great. that that was not a that was under our special projects. >> Okay. >> It wasn't the formal. >> Yeah, he did videos and stuff. >> I'm talking official. >> Okay. >> I remember the face. >> Um Okay. So, member Webb, uh do you have any other questions? No, I just want to add to the media one because I know we're in a very tight budget year and I think if it comes down to um a few pennies on the dollar that we should really consider cutting our social media over cutting something like strings for kids.
>> Uh I move that we approve Elise Torbert as principal of Gilbert Classical Academy for the 2020-2027 school year. >> Thank you, Dr. Robinson. Is there a second? >> I second. >> Thank you, Ms. Humphries. I will call for the vote. All those in favor of approving Elise Torbert as principal of Gilbert Classical Academy for the 2026-2027 school year say I. >> I.
I I'm not I'm not certain. Um but like I said, I have a meeting with the town administrator tomorrow morning, so I can I can inquire as to that possibility. I guess what I would say about use of the the kindergarten stabilization money on those items would be that I think that music, athletics, and um maintenance are structural deficit items that need to be eventually in the budget and for real. Um so, I mean I I don't there are some one-time things that we could do within the within those programs, but I I think it's more long-term. So, I I always hesitate to you know, use those funds for you know, use the one-time funds for something that's recurring, but but I do agree they have to be used at some point. The other thing is if we're going to use them on that, that doesn't then we're still got a 200 250,000 shot.
So um asking students and teaching students really how to disclose the ML MLA just came out with new guidelines of how to site AI usage. Um hiding it uh obviously is a type of academic dishonesty. Um, one of the things that I talked to Brandon about last year was AI detection tools because there's teachers talking about them all the time in my job like and they're really not reliable. Um, and a lot of false positives, a lot of potential for bias. It will flag um, our MLL students. We have some tremendously talented writers. So like professors are like if you use moreover, you're using AI. Like we have students who use moreover. We have students that use semicolons. We have students that use m dashes. So so I'm I was happy to have that affirmed. So really what we focus on is the process of the writing.
