Cuz I mean, we can't just assume you know what to post at all times. So, You were breaking up a little bit. Say that again. What's the best way for us for the rest of the commission to communicate with you like pertinent things to post? You know, is that through an email or >> Yeah. Yeah, just the email. You know, just put Instagram in the subject. I mean, technically we all can post ourselves, which I'm sure is what Jamal would prefer. >> [laughter] >> We can. But no, I'm down. Just yeah, if you send if you send me something, um, I'll get it up there. I don't What What um, Question, if we're using Instagram, why not I don't know if you guys are familiar, but you can collaborate with other people. So, for example, >> I was getting at with John. That's what I was trying to Yeah, was that you can add collaborators.
So, anything that John posts, he could throw it to Jamal. Jamal just repost it. Yeah, I mean, it's yeah. >> I I repost Jamal's stuff that I get from emails and, you know, so, I think I posted something about the Golden Paintbrush. And uh, >> So, there was a there was a press release that went out um, with an image of each piece. Um, so, if it was like low-hanging fruit, it would be like the image of each piece and a link to the press release. Cool. Yeah. >> Um, can someone send me that press release? Yeah. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> Do you have that, Mary or Chris, the press the final one? Mhm. Okay. Yes, I believe it should be it's posted on our Public Art Commission website under 2025 Golden Paintbrush. That's the press release language. Cool. All right, I'm looking it up right now.
I posted it and I linked to the city site, I think. I saw it go live a couple random places, so I was excited about that. Marynetta, what Please chime in. Oh, so I I like the the idea that, you know, we're putting out there kind of alerts, events, these things are happening. But I I I I think um, that the idea of also that site being somewhere where we can gather information. So, for instance, the the conversation that we just had uh, about the um, sculpture park. Um, it'd be great to be able to hear back from the public about what would you like to see in that in that place, that spot? What activities would you like to have? Um, they mentioned kind of collaborating with Carrie Tan. I think it's a wonderful idea with and and with the galleries around there, wonderful idea to start to build this community that can keep an ongoing kind of thing happening there, whether it's concerts or poetry readings or, you know, the free libraries.
It'd be great to have a free library thing set up there where people are sitting on benches, they could grab a book and read when they're having their lunch. So, getting getting ideas collecting ideas from the community about um, spaces or activities that they'd like to see. So, thinking about our our communication going out to the public as a way not only to kind of announce what's happening, but also to seek information about what you would like to see happening. I love that idea. I don't know if we have enough followers to get people to comment on it, but maybe if Mary shares it or something. Mhm. Yeah. I can do it. >> Well, Marynetta, I could I could add Mary as a collaborator. >> Right. Yeah. Yes. But help me with the content. That's all. Just just help me with what you want posted and let me know and I'll get it up.
Something else we might want to think about is using Cynthia Harrison. I mean, she's on the commission, but she needs content, you know, if we could feed her something at each council meeting to just she could be the conduit to the a much broader sort of area. Uh, but uh, you know, you know, we're all citizen volunteers. We we really don't have that much time, you know, uh, so I I don't know who I don't want to do it. I'm saying it's a great idea for someone else to do it, but uh, uh, in any event, along with with what Marynetta said and with Jamal and Allison said that we get the word out there and and I like that concept. And don't don't forget Cynthia. Get her in the loop and give her something, you know, particularly pictures. You know, they love they and they can show pictures, you know, Christopher knows how to do that.
Just prepare them and feed it in and all she has to do is say, "Well," and every council member gets an opportunity at the end of the meetings to do that. Definitely think if we're not getting enough people though to to to tap into other organizations in southeastern Michigan with the help, right? The more we tag them and they tag us, the larger the customers. Right? It's all about what do you call this? Kind of harmonizing with your peer organizations and kind of cross-populates. Anyhow, that way you kind of create more density. I hate people when people tag me without asking. Just so you know, I tend to want to block them. Well, you don't have to personally do it. It can be our organizational Right. hashtag something. Or ask first. Actually, that's a great idea, John. Jordan, uh, the idea of us creating a hashtag that we can reference back.
I think I I think it can have a lot of positive impact, especially if it becomes trendy or something such as like hashtag A2 Pack or or something like that so we can get more people to to just simply be aware that we have a Public Art Commission. I think that's the biggest obstacle, getting getting our name out there and getting members of the public cuz I would love to get to a point where we have active public comment participants and we have a a channel where we have these influx of of community feedback out there. But if you guys think of any potential partnerships, uh, such as the university or per perhaps a nonprofit, uh, please feel free to email me. Uh, Mary and myself and we can structure a meeting and kind of get those conversations happening. You're here. I want to I want to take off what Christopher said that I know things could be a lot better, but I'm from a time when we had nobody that wanted to be on.
Now, you know, we have two new people. We have three people that wanted to speak to us. Uh, I'm just fluttering inside. I think this is just great, you know. I'd love to be better, but this is wonderful. It was really good. >> Here's an example. Like I was on the my my company I work for is part of the Design Core meetings. Um, so I mentioned that I was on here and they all seem excited about that. So, again, there's like there are other organizations that we're not plugged into. This is Design Core Detroit. So, I think just finding out maybe we can and I can help you with this, Jamal. Maybe we just make a list of people we need to start to like that with their doing or, you know, tap to their Instagram and that or, you know, then someone will look at us and anyway, it all kind of amplifies itself.
If we're not already doing that, I just haven't been paying attention too much to exactly what we're cuz I don't do Instagram per se, but I will set up an account to help the effort. No, that that would definitely help. That would definitely help. Or perhaps something like an associate that just tracks all all our partners. I think that would that would also help administratively here in case uh, uh, we have new staff coming in and to kind of support you guys. It it would help a lot to kind of have a list of [clears throat] these are our partners, these are potential future partners and kind of um, get that inventory list going. But yeah, I love that idea. I mean if Avery and Krista are okay with us even and Diana, right? Posting um pictures of the proposal they just gave to us and tagging Thistle and Bess and saying, "Hey, would you like to see this?" Mhm.
>> You know, dreaming of uh you know, something new in this park um and maybe you know, something like that. Mhm. I mean cuz I love Marianette, what you said about engaging the community. Like what do you want to see? Social media is a perfect way to do that, but I think we have to feed them something and that proposal like let's dream about something. What could be here? Um really fun. >> I like I like that idea. I like those ideas a lot. >> thing is, you know, maybe we don't have to take it on ourselves. So, um Avery and and her partners have just presented something to us. One of our suggestions might be um maybe one of the things you could do is start to gather some information from the community and don't forget to give us a shout-out. We can be a venue that people can respond to as well or they can join on add us on to their response.
So, that they have an interest in gathering that information and they can share that with us. So, we don't have to necessarily be the ones that are initiating um that action, but every time someone comes to us and wants to talk about a project, we could say, "Oh, and by the way, this is a little action you could do. Please link us with that." Mhm. Or we could come to this meeting during public comment, right? We could say we have these meetings, look on the website, come for public comment. We can host this conversation live and it's recorded, right? So, that could be a great way to invite people. Mhm. To network. [clears throat] It's a good idea. Has this commission ever considered a tabling event in uh the art fair or similar projects just to kind of get the word out? I don't know if Allison, is that something that uh we've done in the past?
No. No. Not Not since the percent for art. The The last tabling event, the percent for art, the commission would set up at the farmers market with proposals and they would collect feedback from the community and even collect votes. Do you remember that, Kadarsky? Yes. Yes. >> Yeah. So, that was That was after a lot of pushback that they that the percent for art was selecting artists without community feedback. So, that was in response to that they started making their presence known. Yeah. If it's an interest to this commission, I can look about what requirements we need to to hold a tabling event in in the farmers market, especially now that the weather's kind of turning. Maybe maybe having a bi-weekly or even monthly tabling event might just get the word out about the the mission of this commission and and some of the goals that you guys are trying to achieve.
Um But yeah, just food for thought. Yeah. It is. Mhm. Um special projects would be the final group to maybe update on the Golden Paintbrush. So, the the the press release went out. What else Where else do we Were the judges thanked? Yes, yes they were. Good job. I have good news. Okay. You you made you made the awards. You what? Sorry. I have secured clay and a kiln for when we want to do the the uh impressions. I just need dimensions. So, Allison, I'll I'll connect with you probably and Chris later just just so I know. It's only five awards, so I don't think we need more than 50 lb of clay. Uh I think so. Yeah, you'll be fine. I've been trying to notice which manhole covers are on sidewalks so we don't have to get run over by cars. That [laughter] would be That would be great.
Um and then it would be fun, you know, maybe to grab some volunteers and do some documentation of the actual process of us doing this and we can we can post that on social media, too. What is the art commission doing? I'll video if you go in the street and dodge cars. That's [laughter] what we'll make a video. We go viral then. Yeah. We'll get some city permits to close the streets and and do it. Chris, have we secured a time for city council to to invite the winners and present the awards or are we going to wait till the awards are done, maybe? Yeah, I believe that we se- secured some time in the June meeting. Okay. Uh but I think that's enough time. Yeah, as we get a little closer to the actual date, I'll work with Sarah Higgins, our director of operations, to kind of give you guys a spot in the agenda for city council.
Good. Way to go, special projects. Yeah, good work on that. Well, that kind of wraps up working groups. Is there anything else to add? Any other thoughts on that? Are you ready for an adjournment? Well, almost. We have very close, everybody. We have commissioner member communications. Um so, this is brief announcements, upcoming events, any items you would like the group to be aware of or the Ann Arbor community. All of our fans out there. Full moon is April 10th. Oh, that's good shout-out. What is it, Sarah? I'm sorry. Uh the full moon. Oh, yep. Festival of Fools. Yep. And then FestiFools is the 11th or 12th or what is that? Yeah? I think so. And um uh Creative Washtenaw um is putting on their party um on April 15th. So, tickets are available for um members and non-members. Um that might be a good venue to go and and have some face time.
Yeah, that's a great plug, actually. The I really like what the what Creative Washtenaw is doing as Chloe gets more settled into her role. I think they're they're really going to make um make an impact. And so, the art party, they honor um they have like a life they have multiple lifetime achievement awards. They honor artists in the community. Um it's a a great networking event, really fun celebration. So, um maybe Sarah, you could share out the art party info. Um I will definitely try and be there. Um I'll plug for the last time that we're having our artist conference, April 21st through the 23rd, um the business of art. So, here in Ann Arbor. Um more information on the Guild's web website and I'll I'll link it here, too. That's great, Allison. Yeah, that looks like an excellent um event and opportunity. Um I personally just want to quickly share my screen here and um honor the late um great Margaret Lee Parker passed away on March 18th.
Um aside from being a very active public artist and activist, um I'll share her um her obituary with everybody, but she actually chaired the public art commission and was a huge advocate for uh the percent for art program um amongst other incredible incredible accolades and um um working making art for the people in honor of the people and um just wanted to give her a little shout-out and her family and thank her for her service. Yeah, do share that, Mary. I'd love to read that. I did not was not aware that she had passed. So, thank you. >> I'll share it right now with the group. Thank you, Margaret. Well, we we could have an adjournment unless there are any other comments or this is an opportunity also to throw Chris some ideas for the next um agenda. So, any final thoughts? This was a really great meeting, everybody.
I I feel like this is how we should conduct, you know, we have a little bit of input from people. Everybody had great comments and feedback. Great to hear everybody's voice tonight. Um I liked having our visitors to come and do the proposal. That kind of I don't know. Excited me about things to come. So, I like to continue doing that. All right. Well, we're open to suggestions. If you hear whispers of people with ideas, hear it. I was Oh, god. Go, Jen. Go ahead. I was going to move for adjournment. I'm sorry. Okay. No, we're hanging out. Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> Oh, good. Well, I I'm I'm late for another meeting. So, I'm going to have to leave. >> another meeting? Lame. Yes. Yes. Yes. All right, everybody. I'm a very professional Okay. Um thank you, John. Um is there a second to adjourn tonight's April 1st, April Fools' full moon, pink moon meeting?
>> for that. I was waiting for this whole joke. Have a great evening. Yeah. Um special shout out to CTN. Thank you for your time. And Chris, thank you for all the hard work you're doing behind the scenes. We appreciate you. And um with that, good night, everyone. Bye. See you. See you next month. Cheers, [clears throat] everyone.
We're there? Okay, we're there, Mr. Cross. Okay, we have concluded executive session. Can I get a motion to adjourn? I move that we adjourn. Can I get a second? Second. All those in favor? Aye. Aye.
