The selection process begins in August when schools submit an online application. From there, the Arizona Education Foundation staff and a panel of judges determine which schools warrant an interview and a site visit. Since 1983, the A+ School of Excellence program has served to identify and recognize educational excellence in public schools throughout the state and to identify which Arizona public schools would be recommended for the US Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Award. Hundreds of schools apply each year to obtain this highly sought-after designation. Qualities the judges look for include strong leadership that inspires collaboration and embraces professional development. Highquality teachers and staff who create engaging learning experiences and help students thrive academically and socially. A rigorous standards aligned curriculum that encourages critical thinking and problem solving. engaged parents and community involvement in a student centered learning approach with extracurricular activities in a safe and nurturing environment.
No electronic just board and card games. In March, we began looking into the future. The eighth graders visited their future high schools. Our fourth through 8ighth grade after school program students took a tour at USC. And a new student inspired staff verse student event was held. Our first relay race. Let's just say middle school definitely let the staff know who owns the track. A highlight of our elected program was the theater production of Disney Descendants Jr. The students were responsible for every aspect of the production, including the lighting and sound. I played Maleficent, and it was one of my favorite middle school moments so far. Speaking of our favorite moments, going to USC was my favorite part so far. We got to go to an NCAA basketball game. Nebraska won, but it was still fun. Our CTE courses this year have accepted new challenges and created products and spaces for all students and staff to enjoy.
Congratulations to Morirana High School for being recognized as one of the very best of the best of Arizona public schools. >> Shift this way. Congratulations. Okay, this next one is equally fun. I need my transportation team to join me up front, please. So, the Morirana Unified School District recently received the Northwest Fire District's Community Service Award. We would like to acknowledge and thank the individuals that are joining us up here tonight. Uh they represent the best of the best through our transportation department. Now, the community service award. Ann Marie Brazwell is the Northwest Fire community relations manager and she nominated the Morirana Unified School District in the transportation department for its response to a school bus accident that occurred on I 10 near Tangerine near the Tangerine exit back in April of 2025. If you remember this, this was a bus that was coming from the Kingman Unified School District traveling down to Tucson for an academic competition with a group of students and they were involved in a fairly serious accident.

On that day, MUSD was called. The transportation department stepped forward to assist following this bus accident. It was transportation leadership that quickly responded by providing school buses to help transport students safely, ensuring that they reached medical care efficiently and reun and were reunited with their families. The nomination from Ann Marie Brazwell recognized that this support came during a critical time of the day. This was near our own student dismissal. This is the busiest time of the day for our transportation department. Our logistics had had buses across our district at their busiest. Our staff did an outstanding job acting swiftly and collaboratively to meet the urgent need while continuing to serve our MUSD families. Their professionalism, their quick decisionmaking, and their dedication ensured that students were transported safely and efficiently during that time. Miss Bradwell's nomin Miss Bradwell's nomination stated that this honor belongs to the dedicated transportation staff, the leadership team, and those first responders who work together seamlessly in a moment that called for unity and swift action.
Yeah, you. Come here. Come here. Did you know that gallons of water from school fountains is wasted every day? >> A dripping fountain means wasted water. Wasted energy, too. >> Use your bottle wisely. Don't let water run before or after filling it. We are the hydro house. Together we help. >> There are so many other things happening at Sandia. The next slides are highlights of our music, art, and steam classes as well as our skills USA club. There will be 11 Sandia students competing at the state leadership conference next week. This year, our afterchool program, Excel, includes daily literacy intervention, the math pack intervention, clubs, athletics, and tutoring. There is something for everyone at XL. The last few weeks include our soccer season, our teams are killing it, the annual Bearwolf cross country invitational, state testing, and our annual schoolwide field day and barbecue. And of course, the thing I am most excited for, eighth grade promotion.
The Morirana Unified School District is grateful for the opportunity to serve and we're thankful for the Northwest Fire District for recognizing the collective effort that help ensure student safety during a challenging situation. Most importantly, we're thankful for these individuals and our entire transportation department who stepped in in this time of need. So, please join me in thanking our staff for their outstanding commitment not only to MUSD, but to the entire community. Now, we're going to do a big group photo. >> They're good. Everyone this way. Oh, congratulatory celebration next school year. >> Last month, last month, Susan Isaacs from Safe and Civil and Mr. Slasher took a tour of our campus. They shared that they were impressed with the beauty of our campus as well as as that all the oneliners that were posted everywhere. She liked how our campus was clear to students during class time and all classrooms had posted champ expectations. They were able to see our phone policy was well displayed and ready to sorry and ready to start the fourth quarter. Speaking of the phones policy, surprisingly everyone is listening. Shout out to all the students and teachers for a smooth smooth transition into no cell bell to bell >> middle school has been busy this month with a bunch of field trips. Last month they visited labria char trips and learned that the fascinating story of our local area's prehistory.
You have three minutes to speak. >> Thank you. That should be enough. Um, what brings me here today is a um, inconsistency with the discipline process at Duff Mountain. Um, I've run this through the administration and I've gotten a um, a lukewarm response. Um, my son's a happy child. He's academic. He's wellliked by the teachers. He's a bit of a bookworm, but he's also the smallest boy in his class. This leads him to uh, get picked on a lot. Um he's has other incidences, but the incident that's happened recently is um he's been uh teased by a much larger boy at the um at school and uh this boy goes out of his way to tease him and uh the teasing got one bad so so bad one day um son tries to stick up for himself but um this other boy then told my son to go kill himself.
Several students didn't know much about the tar tar pits or how prehistoric animals fell inside them becoming fossils. The experience helped prehistoric an oh helped their understanding of what the world was like 10,000 years ago. Students said the most interesting part of the fossils wait oh the most interesting part was the fossils inside the museum. They were real scientists to explain LA PR's history and let us touch real fossils. Yesterday they went to Topgolf. Students from HCPA and Apple Valley Virtual Academy learned how to enjoy the sport and learned some new skills and had a lot of fun. >> On March 10th, Apple Valley Virtual Academy held a game night and invited HDPA students and families to attend as well. Earlier in the month, both HDPA and AVVA families joined Miss Garcia for pizza with the principal. This was an opportunity for families and students to build relationships with our administration team and and ask important questions that they may have.
Okay, this was um I believe that this other boy got off with a slap of the wrist. Uh I know it is uh school policy to come down very harshly on students who either threaten harm or encourage others to participate in self harm. that does not appear to have gone on here. Um, I was hoping to get a second response back from the school administration today, but I did not. I cannot wait until the to the next board meeting because at that point the semester will be over. Um, this child seems to be connected somehow with athletics. Um and um seems like there's a double standard that's being applied to the uh children with this. >> That's what I have to say. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Means. >> Thank you. >> Next speaker, Raina York from the MEA. Good evening, President Micronis, members of the board, your streeter, staff, um, and community.
