So, with that, I would like to just quickly show the the fly over uh and then get some uh open it up to questions, Madam Chair, with you and the the board. So, I will pull this baby over here and enjoy the show. That's basically it. >> All right. Thank you. >> You're welcome. So, with that, I am open to some questions. Madam Chair, >> thank you. >> Yeah. I mean, I'll I'll right away just open it up um open it up to questions from the board. I I may have missed it. Are we talking permeable paving or regular paving? >> Regular paving. And then I assume when you're talking lighting, you're talking like Musco style sports lights. >> Yep. Actually, I think that's the brand. >> I think that's they >> they have the market cornered. >> Yep. >> Angel does a lot of work with schools, so she knows.
First hit of the game puts a runner on third base. Looks right back to her. She looks her back at third. That's a fantastic play. >> a nice play. So, I got to tell you that's what when we talk about a young kid playing who's got tremendous experience in the circle, she's able to get that come backer, looks the runner back at third. Fantastic, fundamentally sound softball by Bella Domenico. Beautiful. Getting the out over at first base. That's why Bella is my favorite player on this team. I've said this for years. I I don't like her quite as much as the catcher today, but she she is definitely one of my my favorite players ever. She just She knows the game really well. Uh she she makes the right play fundamentally. And And that's that You know, that saves a run, right? >> That saved a run.
>> Oh, really? No kidding. >> No kidding. That's that's a fun process, isn't it? >> I've done those projects before in the past as well. >> So, I believe um you know over the course of discussions um going from the going from the permeable kind of um stone or gravel paving to the paving was both a matter of um ADA and accessibility. um the trackout and the difficult of difficulty of maintaining it and the fact that those kind of um imper impermeable or pvious I should say paving gets compacted and becomes impermeable anyway. >> Yeah. So >> right and I was more specifically speaking about permeable pavement not the stone. >> Yep. >> Right. Okay. >> Permeable asphalt. >> Yeah. And um >> go ahead. >> And then I was just gonna say and this has been Have you already been through conservation at this point?
Great job. >> Looked her back and then and then made the play at first. So, yep. Little meeting on the mound right now with the coach. Makes sense. >> Let's get this out and then and then escape with no damage. Kelsey Kaufman coming to the plate. Kaufman did reach base on a single. I gave her a a infield hit to deep in the deep in the hole to hurt her in the first inning. So, hopefully Quinn is ready for action coming her way. First pitch strike. >> [laughter] >> Domenico deals to get ahead of Kelsey Kaufman, the clean-up hitter for the Wayland Warriors. It's a low hit bobbled by THIRD BASE. NICE STRETCH. GOT IT. VENDETTI. What a play. What a stop, Vendetti. Showing off her strong arm. She didn't field it cleanly, but stuck with it. Strong arm, great throw to first base. Good stretch by Kazanjian.
Is that complete? >> Yeah. So we met with them. Uh there was a uh a mess up in the advertising for the next for the last meeting. So we had to readvertise and we're renotifying of Butters. I think we renotified them uh last week. my company, my the guys in my office did or earlier this week. So, we're going to be meeting with them. See, this is the 26th in early early April. I think we're meeting with them at the be maybe the 11th or 12th. I've got a lot of meetings that month, but I think it's it's about that time. >> Okay. >> I have a question. Um, how much distance is it from the edge of the sidewalk to where that 20 foot um fence is going to be? >> Yep. >> On the side that goes towards the road. I just have a heard but I can't see it.
Getting out of that inning with no harm done off the the double by Camelo-witz who was stranded at third base after two good defensive plays by the young freshman Domenico and Vendetti. And now let's see if the Clockers can answer with three, four, and five coming to the plate in Domenico, Kyra, and Kazanjian. Harder order. That was a nice um That was a nice inning defensively for uh for us. And those are the kind of innings that we are not used to seeing here for Clocker softball. It What You know, been around now this is my third year with the varsity program watching this team play. And that's what you've got to do, right? You've got to avoid innings that where one mistake turns into two, which turns into three. That's right. >> Instead, we had a big hit. Uh we had a mis-handled ball out in center field, but it didn't turn into a second error.
>> Sure. >> Excuse me. So through the chair, we're talking this area in here, correct? >> Yeah. So I say 10 feet. >> Yeah. So that's probably Yeah, it's about 10 feet. It's >> about 10 feet. >> In your renderings, you showed that a lot of existing trees still being there. And I think that's kind of the goal is to have that. Is well, I guess I made an assumption there. Is that the goal to keep those existing trees to kind of buffer from the sidewalk to that fence? Like will they still be able to work around and put in because it looks like the fence is like almost right up to where the goalpost is going to be, which I'm assuming is the you know that that's where like the edge of the the turf is going to be and then there's I think also in rendering you showed grass.
It didn't turn into a third error. Instead, you've got a really heads-up play by the pitcher keeping the runner on third base. And then a hot shot to third that's handled well by Vendetti who who fires it through with a great stretch by Kazanjian to get out of the inning. Now Bella has a chance to help herself. Bella takes the first pitch high. Gets ahead of the count. One and oh. Domenico worked a walk in the first. And it's the bottom of the inning and it Yep. getting a run scored but with with uh Haley Buterman who was the courtesy runner, right? It is bottom of the third and still three nothing Ashland. Three nothing Ashland. Domenico ahead of the count two and oh. Ooh. Bella takes a swing and a miss. Big hack. Big hack by Domenico. She's still ahead of the count here two and one.
I just wanted to really understand that there's those trees you're going to try to keep those up while you're doing the construction and not so that there keeps that natural burm or the natural foliage there. Yes, >> I like the question and just for a point of clarification. So um the fly over the renderings that was done at the time where we had grading uh not is is in fact no grading didn't really change much in here. It it changed pretty much uh in here because previously we had it right up to the property line but we no longer have that situation because we're proposing a swale. I think in the north end northeast end we we had something going on in here for a swale as well. So the plan would be that they'd go in there, they would as we look at the site, we would identify the limits of clearing.
The outfielders are respecting her, playing back a little bit. So, they must have a scouting report on her. She has some power, so. Takes one outside. Three and one. Domenico's got to love this one here. Uh there's you know, she she walked in the first. Beckett has been the victim of a few walks so far today. So, I imagine Bella might be taking all the way here. Let's see. She takes a foul ball. Good hack at a good pitch. Fouls that one down the first base line. Three and two count now to Domenico to lead off the third. Kyra's on deck. Yep. Get Kyra on deck. Followed by Kazanjian in the hole. Be nice if they can put one across one or two across here in the in the third inning. Domenico takes ball four. Nice play. You would think that they would probably get her a courtesy runner.
Anytime we do a project like this, we look for specimen trees. And so if we find there's a specimen tree, obviously if there's a specimen tree here within the soccer field, um that's going to be uh a problem. But if we have specimen trees along here, what we do is we identify them uh for saving. If there's a unhealthy tree as well, we'll look at that and say, well, what is the value of this unhealthy tree? Would it be worth replacing that um uh before you know it it uh it meets its demise and creates situations. So uh we would look at this area, we would augment it. It's part of the plan. So as part of our plan we would look to uh perform the uh flag the limits of clearing identify trees uh that are are for saving and the same would apply here.
I imagine it will be the same as it was in the first inning. Looks like coach Sasso is calling time. Haley Buterman. >> back out to courtesy run for Bella Domenico. Uh smart move, right? Haley is is fast in the base paths. Allows Bella the opportunity to get inside, stay Get a Get a jacket on her and some hand warmers or something. >> Stay warm. Kyra up to plate looking for a little revenge on Beckett who put one in her back her first time up. That's right. Kyra steps in. She takes the first pitch. Not hers. Looks like it might have been a little out, but we're going down oh one. Beckett throwing on the rubber. And she deals. That's going to be Ooh. just away from the catcher. I I I think that with Haley's speed, she might have been able to take second on that.
We have a little bit more flexibility along here. So if we see uh a beautiful specimen tree in in this location here that's actually maybe out in here, we would look to save that. We would modify the grading to to work around that. out here. We would augment the vegetation with some lower undergrowth. Uh we would not propose uh canopy trees per se unless we felt that we could not create a situation where we increase some mortality rate to the existing trees or uh to to what we're proposing. So, we're going to work with that and I think that in our discussions and I would uh suggest that the planning board uh condition that is is part of this when this work is done along Pleasant Street, we're sensitive to the abutters across the street. Totally get it. So with that said, we we would suggest that the the uh planning board condition that the area following the uh the flagging of the limits of clearing that a representative from the town uh the planning board uh town staff meet with uh us out at the site, the landscape architect, the client, and the site contractor to have a clear understanding of what we're what we're retaining.
>> the coach wanted her to go too, so. >> I do, too. I think he was looking for it. She's got to get a little better of a secondary lead there. Didn't get a good read on it, but that's okay. Don't want to risk the out. Kyra swings and a miss. Took a big hack there. Down one and two now. That was a high pitch and Kyra was wanted to wanted to send that one to the moon or something, but Kyra's down now one two. Got to protect the plate. That's low. Two and two. Two and two. Two and two. >> Haley retreats back. Can Kyra looking for her sixth hit of this young season? She's got five already. Takes one high. Three and two count. >> Full count. >> Ooh, Haley. Throw over. Throw over from Beckett to first base trying to catch Buterman sleeping.
Then we would identify those trees that are going to be saved uh that you know may have been within a clearing footprint um that we can we can save and then come up with a game plan is how we're looking to vegetate that. Again the goal is to be sensitive to the abutters across the street and to provide uh the necessary screening. >> Yeah. I just like just looking at the Google map pictures from this last summer like as you drive by it looks like a pretty like not a bunch of new trees there and I'm just imagining you I don't think the goal is to knock them all down and make it clear cut just so you can >> get in quickly. So I just wanted to see kind of what you're saving. You know what I mean? >> Sure. Sure. and and and I do through the chair.
She sneaks back in in time. Okay, here's the pay-off pitch to Kyra. Uh Beckett toes the rubber. She's going to wheel and deal. Kyra Puts it in play. Slow ground ball to second. >> Safe. She goes to reaches. Oh, Haley throws to first. And she makes it. Aggressive. So, Kyra reaches on an error by the second baseman. Puts the ball in play. Good things happen when you put in play. That one's going to go down as an E4 in the book. But Haley Buterman with some heads-up base running takes advantage of the error and gets to third. Runners on first and third. I imagine he is once again going to get a courtesy runner for Kyra as well. Who is a Who is the catcher. Yep. And here comes Rebecca Kriegsman. Now you got some speed in the base paths with Buterman and Kriegsman at first and third with no outs and Kazanjian coming to the plate.
I do appreciate Scott's uh comment because when you look at it in the winter, so what you're seeing here is a lot of dense uh nasty undergrowth. Um and that's porting it mildly. Um here in the winter photos, you get a better representation of of what's actually going on. You can see the healthy trees and the unhealthy trees. Um, so as you can see closer to the sidewalk in here, we're retaining trees. Obviously, something out in here, if that's beyond the 10 ft, will no longer uh exist. But what we would look to do is, uh, maintain whatever we can in here. Uh, and in fact, if we still have this undergrowth in here, we're not touching it. We're not touching it. We're going to augment what's in there. So the difference between the winter and the in the summer is is pretty staggering. I mean this is this is that same shot in the summertime versus the winter time.
Kudos to uh Kyra for just hustling down to first. You know, you never She didn't give up on that play. Yeah, and and you know, even though she gets on an error, it's putting your bat on the ball is the key, right? Put your bat on the ball and things happen and now we've got first and third with no outs. Kazanjian >> takes the first one low. Yep, Rebecca takes off on that. So, if we have now second and third with no outs. Another wild pitch. Uh he she is sure making Sophia Gorky work behind the plate today. She is. Nice stop by Gorky. Who is who is really working hard back there. Rebecca just She she's throwing the ball with some good velocity. She's struggling a little bit with her control, especially with runners on base. I find that that she loses a little bit when the runners get on.
>> Yeah. I think the I think the key thing here would be to um request to ask that our tree warden um who I I know you know um is um to be to be the one that really looks at those trees, determines which ones are worth saving and determine which um what trees would be best planted >> um amongst these you what new trees um in order to you know the ones that would actually, you know, survive best, grow to be an asset along the street. Um, and there's probably no one better to do it than than than Becca. So, >> yep. All all over that. All over that. >> I think that is are other questions from the board. >> Yeah. Just Well, I have just one other comment. I know you guys are going back >> about the um paving the parking lot or not paving it, and I appreciate that you decided to go in that direction.
Ooh. Big swing and a miss there by Ruby. Ruby was trying to end this game that [laughter] swing. Uh she does tend to have a long swing. She And and sometimes that comes back when she shortens that swing up. That's when Ruby does her best piece of hitting. Little foul. Little dribbler foul. Kessadjian now two and two. Two and two is the count with no outs and a pair of ducks on the pond for one of Ashland's most powerful bats. Let's see if Ruby Kessadjian can knock in two here. And she Put it in play. >> puts another one in Just foul. >> looked almost identical to her first hit of the day, which was a fantastic [laughter] single down the first baseline and to right field. Uh this one just went foul. Again, she shortened up her swing a little bit. Wait a minute, that's what I like to see with Ruby.
