Mike's even on. Hello. Good evening. Is this right? Yeah, okay. Hello and good evening. I would like to call this meeting to order. Mr. Lotzenhiser, may I have roll call, please? President Wade, please let the record know that all five members of the governing board are in attendance this evening.
Good afternoon. Wow, we're so excited for our first ever participatory budgeting presentations to the cabinet and to the governing board. My name's David Lotsonheiser, I'm the superintendent and what a fun way for us to celebrate the next step in this process. We know it's not done. We know the process is done when everything's back out on your campuses and what you guys have voted for and all of the hard work. So, couple of thank yous that I want to shout out. First, I want to thank Mr. Armstrong for leading this from the district office. Will give him a round of applause. Thank you, Mr. Armstrong >> [applause] >> for moving this through. Second, I'd like to thank all of the advisors and people on campus that led the small groups and led the led the student leaders and allowed the students to take charge and move forward.
And video is alive. Yes, we are live. Seeing presence of a quorum, I'll call the Helen School Committee meeting to order at my computer, I don't know why it's 5:33 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7th. Um, and we are not here at 12, so we will ask everybody to say they're here. Um, so public comment, I will say that there's one written public comment attached. And we have someone here who'd like to give public comment. Sure. Okay. Hi. My name is Glenn Beach. I have two children in Helen School. Um, I was just wanting to be sure I mention a couple of things. One is that I'm hoping that you all can help sort of get to the bottom of the cameras in the school situation. I know it's going to come up later. Um, but I think there's a couple of things I'm confused about.
right now. >> Um, good evening everyone. I'd like to call the April 7th meeting of the Ashland Board of Health to order. Um, the first thing on our agenda is citizen participation. Do I have anybody for citizen participation? Laura, can we confirm that no one in the waiting room or anything? >> No one's in the waiting room. Thank you. >> Okay. All right. Um so the next thing on our agenda is the annual annual inspector um nominations for Donna Walsh and Justine Grassi. Raj, can you take us through that chief? Yes. So we we just have to take the vote. You know this is annual requirement from uh from the state you know that every year we nominate our animal inspectors you know if if the board just can take the vote and they have done the required paperwork and we have already submitted it to the state.
All right, good to go, John? Yes, sir. Yep, all right. Cool, we'll call this is our meeting for I'm a board of regional school committee. Order, please. Rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mhm. >> Mhm. >> Hey everyone. Hi Adam. Hi Adam. Hi Adam. Can you hear us? Yes, thank you. >> Good. I'm glad you're here. Okay, we're going to get started now if that's all right with you. You good? What was that? We're going to get started now. Are you Can you hear us okay? Yes, I can hear you. All right. If If If everyone can actually get close to the microphone, I I'm sure I'll be able to hear everyone. No Nobody's pushed the button yet. That's why you can't hear anybody else. I I It's okay. I know. Okay.
You're good to go. Awesome. Okay. >> All right. >> Okay. I call this meeting of the Canton Board of Education. It's our regular meeting for Tuesday, April 7th, 2026. And I want to welcome all the parents and students that are here tonight. One of the one of the highlights of being a board of education member is really to be able to recognize the achievement of our students. And that's what we're going to do tonight with the Canton celebrates. I want to thank Mr. Moore, our principal at CIS. Uh Mr. Defipo, our principal at CIS CMS, excuse me. You got two. I'll give you two schools. CMS. Uh Mr. Dipo and Dr. Kidwell here from our high school and welcoming again all our parents.
meeting is open and the live stream is on. >> Thank you. Good evening, Isuza community, students, parents, and staff. Welcome to the board of education meeting for item 1.1. I would like to call the meeting to order on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 5:29 p.m. A little early. Moving on to item 1.2, roll call. Board vice president Rodriguez Pena >> here. Board clerk Ramos >> here. >> Board member Greer >> here. >> And board member Ariana is maybe she's arriving late. And I am present.
Uh recommendation here is also to pass it unamended. Questions or concerns? If not, Vice Chair. Recommendation to pass unamended. Chair Rhoads. >> Aye. Vice Chair Woosley, Senator Chang. Aye. Senator San Buenaventura. Aye. Senator Auwae's excused, measure's adopted. Okay, thank you. Next up is HB 1679. This clarifies an association board's authority with respect to calling and authorizing electronic meetings, electronic voting, and electronic meetings, uh electronic voting without a meeting, and mail voting without a meeting. Uh it clarifies that proxies are only to be used by any for any voting conducted at a meeting. Uh recommendation on this one is to in subsection F on page five, specify that the order of controlling authority specify the order of sorry, specify that the order of controlling authority if a deadline for voting or written consent is established by an authority other than the board, it is first the what's what it says in the declarations, then the bylaws, and then chapter 514B that would control.
Anything else she may left out? No, she did good. Um well, Emma, FCCLA, what kind of made you do it? So, first of all, um I had two friends who are now seniors. They like really encouraged me to just go to the meeting in general. And then um the meeting like kind of like entice me to do it because they brought up like a bunch of like trips, and I honestly kind of just wanted to do it for the traveling, but then I ended up really liking it. What about you, Hannah? Uh I had originally joined it cuz I figured it look good on like a college transcript, but the more I did it, I actually fell in love with it, and I'm very glad I did it. Um well, Hannah, what do you specifically do in FCCLA? FCCLA. Um that is a good question.
Please join me in a moment of silence followed by the pledge of allegiance. Okay, I motion to approve the agenda. That would be Ms. Van Hook seconding. I cannot either. Um So, also um we aren't using our computers to vote cuz you know, the hot mess and all that jazz. Um if you could when we vote, just turn your microphone on so then at least that way it picks it up and then that'll be easier. And that helps solve our problems. Um all in favor of approving the agenda. I. I. I. I, motion carries five to zero. Springs us to Mr. Lotzenhiser. President Wade, members of the board, very exciting for a lot of different recognitions that we have in our Higley Happenings um for this month, but before we go, uh I'm going to go off just a little off script here today because the first thing on the superintendent's report is to just thank uh board President Wade for deciding to spend her birthday evening with us here at the governing board meeting.
So, if you're one of those people, would you just stand and be recognized? Let's give them a round of applause, all of the leaders. Couple little ground rules. We got 5 minutes per group, so we're going to be hustling through pretty quick. I am going to ask that in the audience you guys do your best very best to pay attention and to make sure we're quiet and give all the respect and due to the groups that are up here at front. Mr. Armstrong's got a few words to say and then we are going to get rolling. Yes, thank you, Mr. Lotsonheiser. We're super excited. So, the way this is going to go, um, sponsors, I know you've seen probably 40 or 50 emails about this, so I appreciate the support. We're going to have the schools, they're going to line up along the back or along my left, your right.
One is that in Dr. Z's update, she mentioned this is I just have some quotes from her statement. Um, this is relevant in Helen where the campus is open, has multiple entry points, and is frequently used by the public outside of school hours. So, I wasn't aware that the school is open to the public outside of school hours outside of like scheduled meetings that seems like we know who's here. So, I'm wondering who's using it? Do we not trust them? And what does it mean that the campus is open? That part wasn't clear to me. Um, and then uh, any cameras located in hallways are configured to record only when school is not in session. So, admin have said differently. I've heard directly that admin are hoping to use it as a third-party observation tool for resolving conflicting stories that may arise or issues. Um, my child also reported that teachers are saying cameras are in there because of some bathroom vandalism that has happened.
Thank you. Okay. So, I I'll make a motion um for Donna Walsh and Justine Graci to be approved as our animal inspectors. >> Second. >> Any discussion from anybody from the board? >> Okay. All in favor? >> It's unanimous. All right. Um next thing on the agenda is um Dave Kinsman for decisions at every turn update. Yes. So at the last meeting which was on March 18th um uh the main topic of discussion was uh let's see so um so basically there was a um there was a lunch engagement uh activity which was basically uh they invited students to participate in a survey on nicotine use during lunch period. Um and that's the survey centered around basically three questions. Why a particular student would stay nicotine free, why um they thought nicotine use was common, and uh would ask the student if they would use it.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Uh thanks, everybody. Uh first item on the agenda is thank the recommendation for taking the La Crosse game came up and said she's going to, so we'll reschedule. So, she had a defense away game, so she couldn't be here. Uh next up, Al, do you have an introduction? I do. So, thank you. Um so, a couple things, just an update on the Furlong Memorial principal uh updated search. Um so, the hiring committee narrowed the process down to two candidates. On Thursday, March 26th, Dr. Connolly and myself interviewed both of those candidates. And then, Friday, March 27th, I offered um the principal uh sorry, I offered the principal >> [laughter] >> I offered the uh yeah.
Let's do the Pledge of Allegiance. Can we get started? Thank you everybody for your patience. Can we do Pledge of Allegiance? So, you want to do that? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Please remain >> standing for a moment of silence. As always, I like to remember our servicemen and women here and overseas, especially with all the conflicts going on, and especially our graduates. Thank you. Sue, can you do the roll call? This is the roll call for presents. Ms. Farris, Farris. Yes. Ms. Disla. Present. Mr. Jones. Yes. Mr. Mejia. Present. Mr. Mercedes. Present. Thank you. >> Mr. Tarbox. Here. Mr. Haydem. Yes. Okay. Um at this time I'd like to uh get a motion to change the agenda. There are two items that have been removed from it.
We're going to kick off tonight with uh the pledge of allegiance. So, if you stand and join us and we're going to ask Jonathan to lead us tonight in the pledge, please stand indivisible and justice for all. Thank you. We're gonna go right. Sure. Okay. So, we have we actually have the high school first. So, um so I'm going to turn this over to uh Dr. Kidwolf and Mr. Dippo from our high school.
Moving on to item 1.3, pledge of allegiance. Will Adrienne Aosta, principal of Murray Elementary School, please come to the podium. Good evening, board president Benvitas, board members, cabinet, and community. My name is Adrien Aosten. from the proud principal of Murray Elementary School. Murray is committed to academic growth and student support. We consistently implement when what I need, intervention blocks, and a SEAL program. To bridge learning gaps, we maintain an afterchool tutoring program that provides students with the additional time and attention needed to master core concepts. Our focus on literacy and language complements these academic efforts. Celebrated through events like grade across America and the biiteracy pathway awards. Creating a sense of belonging for our families is a central part of our school culture. We have hosted a wide variety of community focused events including trunk or treat, winterfest, the 100 mile club, and our Murray track meet.
Change the phrase special rule order to special rule on page four for clarity. And it still does have a bad date. Questions or concerns? If not, Senator Gabbard. I'm voting with reservations on this. Um I although I'm for electronic um voting and and mailing voting, I I think you there needs to be there needs to be there needs to be an ability for dissenters to be able to dissent um instead of just voting as is with about whatever it is that the ballot is to them sent to them. Okay. Okay, so reservations. Okay. Okay, uh any other reservations or no votes? The measure is adopted. Okay, thank you. Moving on to HB 1682. This enacts the Uniform Civil Remedies for Unauthorized Disclosure of Intimate Images Act, well, or sort of. Um recommendation here uh will just be technical amendments and we'll add committee report language expressing concerns about departing from the model act.
I do a lot. Um so, it started off I was just a chapter officer, which is a chapter is just like our school group, so only Clearwater people. Um I ran for district president, which district is not state level, but it's like several counties around us, and I've been district president 2 years. Uh this year was my final year. I am a Kansas State Peer Education team member for the Stand Up team member. So that's the Stand Up is a community service uh sector and so we go to workshops around the state and we present about Stand Up to the kids. Um I am on the Kansas State board. Uh so I help choose our bylaws and all that stuff we need to figure out. Um I'm also a part of SEAC uh which is all the advisors, district advisors from each district meet and we just discuss about, "Okay, what are things we can change?" and all that sorts of stuff.
