>> [applause] >> Come on up. Come on up. Not to put you guys on >> [laughter] >> All right. And for our next recognition, oh, I'm so excited about this one. If we couldn't have Kelly and Chrissy from Cortina come all the way up to the front. >> [groaning] >> Mrs. Papkin, Mrs. De Bono, are the principal and the assistant principal of Cortina for the A+ and joining them Mr. Cantrell from Cooley and Shayna Las Arenza from Cooley for their A+ as well. So, congratulations to Cortina Elementary School and to Cooley Middle School in earning the A+ School of Excellence recognition from the Arizona Education Foundation. The statewide recognition honors public schools demonstrating high academic achievement, strong leadership, and sustained commitment to educational excellence. The process involved a detailed application, tour, interviews with panels of judges. We're so proud of the administrators for their efforts in this rigorous process to ensure their schools are meeting the highest standards.
Our second option was a custom door wrap. A custom door and window wrap would transform our school environment by creating a welcoming, vibrant space that reflects our pride and identity. Eye-catching designs on the doors and windows could highlight our mascot, school values, and student artwork, or inspiring messages, making every entrance feel special and inviting. A custom wrap would also build school spirit, create a stronger sense of belonging, and showcase what our school what makes our school unique to visitors and families. Our last and final option was playground and sports equipment. This would be a great option because it could help students get their energy out at recess and lots of students wanted to be able to have some new things to be able to do at recess and it also helped build student strength, coordination, and confidence while developing important social skills. Vote day. Vote day was a super fun day and second grade and under got paper ballots and then fourth third grade and up got to vote on computers.
It would not be. Um and so, therefore the it it's hard to equate the level of support that receives is received to the 4% that is allocated to someone's salary because in actuality you're receiving a full-time central office and that is because it's a shared service model. Um the key takeaways for me in terms of that area and I'm just going to rush through them so that I can get to the questions portion is that Pelham has full access to central office. Um for some individuals that are staffed and support the office like I said, we want to ensure that we have clear outline duties, we reduce duplication of roles and costs and we're going to ensure continuity. But as Pelham continues to have conversations about potential separation or how roles are um implemented or or how things or activities move forward, there it is important to understand that that may create a standalone model and may increase both financial and operational responsibility for Pelham.
You know uh we have dealt this with last year as well. They have lot of trash uh along the property. So Tom uh have issued citations of $80 each to four establishment there. Uh one was a convenience store easy convenience uh mama's bakery. Uh and then there is a uh I guess it's a laundry place you know dry cleaning place and then uh uh a restaurant uh in the corner there. So all four have $80 citations. Now when Tom issue these citations he do call me every time you know to make sure that we are on the same page you know uh that if that's the way to proceed you. So uh that's we are there we did had our second uh MRC stop the bleed training went very well uh that was on 18th March uh and we did had our uh MRC advisory meeting this morning uh that we are planning to host more of these trainings in the future you know given we are trying to enroll more and more members and uh there are some tiered training that we are requiring them to have.
We have uh Mychaela Green and Sophia Green to present. We have a third person in our group, also, Bailey McNamara, but she's not She'll come any minute, but we can do it without her. Okay. Good evening, everyone. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to speak today about something that matters deeply to us, the idea of opening a food pantry right here at Tantasqua. For many people, school is a place of learning, growth, and opportunity, but for some students, it can be also be a place where they carry a quiet burden that others don't see, the uncertainty of where their next meal will come from. Hunger doesn't always look the the way we expect it. It can affect classmates sitting next to us, friends we laugh with, or teammates that we practice with every day. We believe that no student should have to focus on an empty stomach instead of their education.
Any discussion? Call the roll, Sue. Mr. Jones. Yes. Mr. Mejia. Yes. Mr. Mercedes. Yes. Mr. Tarbox. Ms. Farris. Yes. Ms. Dissler. And Mr. Haydam. Yes. Vote carries. Vote carries. Vote carries. Uh clerk, John Lavoy. Can I get a motion for that, please? I make a motion to accept. Seconded by Mr. Tarbox.
His dedication has pushed him uh beyond a standard curriculum where he's done several independent studies in art as he took every course available here at K High School and he will be uh working towards his art at University of Harford next year. So congratulations. >> So speaking about performing our next award is our theater arts award chosen by our drama director Mrs. terror for a student most deserving of recognition uh in this area. Uh this person uh I'm sorry, Miss Taylor annually chooses a student who shares a passion for the theater and use it um to just build on not just creativity but develop skills, develop skills in others and bring energy and joy to the entire community. Initiative's recipient is Anastasia Collins. So, a few more words about Miss Taylor has mentioned how dedicated she has been to the theater community since she was a freshman where she immediately enjoyed the drama drama club.
Maximum speaking time is three minutes. Thank you for your participation. Moving on to item 3.1, public comment on the agenda or non-aggenda items. Hope, do we have any blue cards? We have no blue cards. Lea, do we have any hands raised on Zoom? >> We have no hands raised on Zoom. Okay, moving on on to item 4.1, presentation of Isuza Unified School District Youth Truth Survey results and local control and accountability plan. Miss Garcia Medina, I turn it over to you. Good evening, uh, board president Benvides, board members, superintendent Ortega, cabinet, and audience. I'm excited to be here. um right after spring break uh to share with you um a youth truth survey data and the alignment between the LCAP. Um each year we review progress uh that our district has made on our local control and accountability plan. Um and currently we are working with our educational partners to gain input uh on our current plan.
Hearing none, the measure's adopted. Thank you. Next up is HB 1768. This prohibits any law enforcement agency or law enforcement officer from entering into an agreement under federal law that permits state or county agencies to engage in immigration enforcement. Uh the recommendation on this law is to uh pass with some amendments um suggested by the AG. So add a new section after section {dash} three, prohibited action by law enforcement agencies or law enforcement officials. So that's basically a tech. And then construction under So federal law, nothing in this chapter shall be construed as prohibiting or restricting any state or county law enforcement agency or any law enforcement official from acting in accordance with title eight United States Code sections 1373 and 1644. I believe it still has a bad date. Yes. Questions or concerns? If not, Vice Chair. HB 1768 HD1 SD1, recommendation to pass with amendments.
Yeah, so what does it take to get to Nationals? Uh, you have to place first or second at state. There is usually around 15 people per event. It really depends on how booked or how popular that event is that year. But yeah, you have to place top two with a score above 80, I want to say. I can't remember the exact number, but you have to score above that to advance on to Nationals. And uh have you been to Nationals yet? Uh no, I have not. But but were were you eyeing it, right? She does get to go this year, so. >> get to go this year though, so. Yeah. Um well, did you like Seattle or Orlando better? Seattle. Really? Mhm. Well, seems like you got to do a lot of things in Orlando. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That probably sounds like a lot and it sounds really fun.
An A+ School of Excellence, for those of you who have never gone through it before, it's quite a process where we start, they write applications. The application has to get approved by a group of judges. Then they have a visit where they actually come and say, "Can we see what you wrote?" and verify that it's there. And once they do that, then we get this prestigious award and I'm so excited that our two schools who submitted this year were able to get the A+ School of Excellence award. So, here tonight they are to present to the governing board our our banners that that they just recently had and earned on their campuses and presented to their faculties. So, again, let's give a big round of applause for everything that happened with Cortina and Cooley. Okay, Mr. Cantrell and Shayna, if you guys wouldn't mind come right back on up again.
It was super fun because we got to get every single vote from every single student and then we finally made our decision. And the winner is a 3D printer and noise canceling headphones. Thank you so much for watching and listening to our presentation. >> [applause] >> Hi, I'm I'm Maddie and I'm the sixth grade representative. Hi, my name is Mariah and I'm a fifth grade vice president. Hi, I'm Aliyah and I'm the fifth grade treasurer. Hi, I'm Harper, your sixth grade student council president and we're the proud Chaparral Sharks. We have some ideas. We did the bathroom stall wraps, the window wraps, the tetherball, and some picnic tables for the upper grades. Our proposal developments and what we thought of to do. One of our visions was to get a tetherball on our playground so students could take their energy out and have more games to play at recess.
So I we can talk more about that in terms of central office. Kindergarten registration, historically prior to me arriving there was always a kindergarten registration night or kindergarten night. This was a combination as again because you had one centralized central office, this was a combined activity where everyone both districts came together. It would be the same thing where you come in parents had a general opening by the superintendent. Last year was my first year, this is my second year. We introduced them to the whatever district resources are available and then they split out and they meet with their principals for the upcoming year. I believe last year Pelham may have had three parents, two two parents that showed up, two families. Thank you, Mickey. Two families that showed up. Um it's really not the turnout is not very large when it comes to Pelham, and so but the main crux of the night is really for the central office to kind of do like an introduction of all of the resources that's available, engage with our community partners.
So this is in uh this is all these trainings we are doing for that. I did attend a mass dam seminar last month where we discussed you know uh in relation to Ashland right the PAS around our landfill that you know from past year and a half that we've been working uh about testing well water you know around around our uh around our landfill. So that was that we did had a another meeting around marathon uh on April 1st at PD you know the team from from the marathon was here u and again I I won't be here for the marathon day I know Barbara have confirmed uh nurse an will be taking on my position you know for the for the marathon uh so please if any board member is available I'll appreciate we have asked Red Red Cross volunteers also that they have confirmed they're going to be here.
That's why we feel so strongly about starting a food pantry in our school. This isn't just providing food, it's about creating a support system. It's about making sure our students feel supported. Our school pantry would offer students and families a reliable, private, and judgment-free way to access the essentials they need. Imagine a space where students can discreetly pick up groceries after school. Imagine the relief for families who are struggling, but don't always have access to transportation or local resources. Imagine the message it sends that at Tantasqua, we take care of our own. And the best part, this is something we can realistically accomplish this year. With support from administration, staff, and students, we can organize food drives, partner with local organizations, and create a sustainable system run by this club. Even small contributions, one can of food, one hour of time, can add up to something truly meaningful.
Any discussion? I'm going to call the vote on that. Ms. Dissler. Yes. Mr. Jones. Yes. Mr. Mejia. Yes. Mr. Mercedes. Yes. Mr. Tarbox. Ms. Farris. Yes. And Mr. Haydam. Yes. Vote carries. Vote carries. Assistant treasurer. Who is presently Mr. Tarbox. Can I get a motion for that, please? I make a motion for Mr. Tarbox to Thank you. Second. Second. Thank you.
In addition for the first play, anyone who's come to a play at CHS has seen Anna in action. Started with Alice in Wonderland and since then she has grown uh to be an amazing actress and singer and most of us may have seen her just recently in Freaky Friday where her amazing acting and singing skills called People Tears um with with their powerful scenes. Um she's an extraordinary member of the theater community and plans for students moving forward. Great job. this point I'd like to uh talk about a few of our athletes. Um each year the Connecticut Associated Schools as member schools similar to the arts um to choose two scholar athletes. These selections are made based on academic excellence with citizenship and high levels of integrity and self-discipline as well as having uh excellent personal standards which serve as a model for others. Um, and you need to do all this to be considered for this honor.
We are measuring progress and we're developing potential revisions for the upcoming LCAP plan for 2026 2027. Um within this plan, one of the metrics that we measure is the results from the district annual youth truth survey. Today's session will allow us to take a closer look at the various themes that are measured across um the youth truth survey as well as specific questions that we uh measure at the district level. We're going to be able to look at year-to-year comparisons uh within our district. We're also going to be able to compare against national averages uh as well as California typical schools participating in the youth truth survey. All right. The youth tooth survey is our feedback tool and it helps us see uh through the perspective of those who are living the day-to-day at our school sites uh including our students, our families and our staff and it gives us a way to see their experience and it shapes our decision making as we uh project the the next uh LCAP plan.
Any no votes or reservations? Hearing none, the measure's adopted. Okay, thank you. Next up is HB 1810. Beginning in on the 1st of January 2027, establishes prompt payment and financial reporting requirements for professional solicitors that sell donated or collected non-terrestrial tangible property. And recommendation on HB 1810 is to pass um with some amendments. We'll fix the section 467B-25.83 cross reference. And move the prohibited act language to section 467B9 for chapter consistency. And we'll leave the bad date. Questions or concerns? If not, Vice Chair. HB 1810 HD2 SD1, recommendation to pass with amendments. Any no votes or reservations?
Um but our teacher for FCCLA or you know, uh Mrs. Weber, like tell me a little bit about her. Uh Mrs. Weber has been a FCS teacher, which is family consumer sciences teacher, for several years. I want to say it's over 10 years. Uh she's taught at different schools and everything. Uh she's always been an FCCLA advisor. Uh she actually was an FCS in the FCCLA herself as a kid, but she's super supportive and she's always um winning awards and very accomplished in different activities and stuff like that. Do you agree? Yes. Anything else to add about Mrs. Weber? Um honestly, like personality-wise, she's very nice. Um but like she can be like mean-ish sometimes, just depending if A little kind of stern. Yeah, that's what I was looking for. But yeah, she always wants the best of us, so if she's got to be hard on us, then we will.
